Speaker 1 (00:09):
From various locations via the miracle of Skype. It's the
lgn R. Let's talk Nascar with your host Todd Bailing,
co hosts Brian Schmidt, PJ Newdleman, and producer Dangerous Dan Margetta.
Call the show anytime head four one four four two

(00:30):
one seventy nine oh one, and now the creator and
host of the fastest hour in radio.

Speaker 2 (00:36):
Todd Veiling.

Speaker 3 (00:40):
Hey, nice of you to join us. Happy January, the coldest,
worst month of the year continues. But hey, we're zeroing
in on the early February start, and Daytona is not
that far off. Nice to have you, Todd bailing In, Sonny,
but Cole Phoenix, Arizona, I'm not I'm not looking for sympathy.

(01:02):
Trust me. Cold is a relative term, isn't it. My
three partners beginning with Eastern Wisconsin's own Brian Schmidt out
in Utzburg.

Speaker 4 (01:12):
Hi, morning, that's thirty degrees here, and hey, we got
a full week of racing coming up this week with
the Chili Bowl coming on and the Lucas Oil Series
starting at the end of the week, So we're turning
the corner.

Speaker 3 (01:22):
There's racing to watch. How much of that is available
online most low, all of it, all of it, all
of it is. That's the one I pay for. I
like that, And of course PJ. Neudleman on the other
coast of Wisconsin, Trumpelow High Pege.

Speaker 5 (01:40):
Good morning, cloudy in twenty seven here we got about
an inch or so of snow overnight, just to make everything.

Speaker 3 (01:47):
A little slippery. Dan Margetta down in South Now, I
was gonna say South Milwaukee, but that's not true. Saint Francis.
Is there a difference that.

Speaker 6 (01:56):
Really they're pretty close to each other. It's about thirty
here and no snow. But hey, on his way from
the Daytona five hundred, right, I guess three from the
class for looking at it.

Speaker 3 (02:03):
It's it's coming fast and we're looking forward to it.
But I want to start this program with the greatest
news I think you could ever get for a guy
who has supported racing kind of on an island himself
since he's started in this business. Lance Allen of CBS

(02:26):
fifty eight this week got his third award as Wisconsin's
sportscaster of the Year. What a wonderful thing to have
happened to you after your contract wasn't renewed by what
is now a station I hope with a little egg
on its face, went.

Speaker 7 (02:48):
On the MVP the year you get traded.

Speaker 4 (02:53):
That's right, it's about did he win that on behalf
of TMG four? On behalf I mean, or did you
just the award?

Speaker 3 (03:01):
And then they congratulate whoever you work for, which means
he did all the way through August the channel four,
so you know, it's only been since recently that he's
with CBS fifty eight, so.

Speaker 4 (03:16):
The radio network in between there.

Speaker 3 (03:19):
From all of us, it's pretty cool. Co co winner
of the award. What's her name, Dan from the Brewers,
Sophia Minerk. Yeah, the multi lingual.

Speaker 7 (03:33):
Reporter.

Speaker 3 (03:34):
We can call her sideline reporter, but she's like sits
outside of the dugout ducking foul balls. Either way, it's
wonderful that a guy who has made racing an important
part of everything he does his name Sportscaster of the
Year for the third time. Way to go, Lance, From
all of us, we appreciate you, and I see everybody

(03:54):
else does too. That's pretty awesome. The news, there's been
some news this week, and we'll let Dan, we'll talk
a little bit about the legal wranglings a little later,
I see that they're making a big deal. First of all,
NASCAR has come up with a bunch of new rules.

(04:15):
They don't really call and ask anybody if they want
to vote on, as do they on all those new rules. No,
I just fished a bulletin which if that's how you
do business, how can you get sued? I'm not exact.
I'm still not exactly sure, but one of the new
rules is there. It's called an open exemption provisional. That

(04:39):
means there can be an actual forty first entry into
a race if whoever the guy is or girl is
famous or something like that. What would you call that?
I don't know. Elio castron Nevis, fourth time Indianapolis five
hundred winner, will be in the Daytona five hundre reading

(05:00):
the track house number ninety one car with Darien Grubb
as his crew chief. I should have said, former Slinger
speedway racer Elio kester Nevez, former guest on this program,
and former guest on this program, you bet you one
of the great personalities the sport has ever known, and

(05:21):
by the way, an award winning dancer too. So he's
going to be in the Daytona five hundred. Now that's
the good news. I'm thinking just having him in the
race is a pretty cool thing. But you've got a
guy who has never raced, not only at Daytona, but
in one of these cars, and has done an race

(05:42):
which arrow is such an important part and positioning yourself
for passing and having a good day. I think the
over under for Old Elio is going to be about
twenty fifth. Now that doesn't mean to have anything at
all to do with his talent. I love him, and
he's won that Indianapolis four times, and we know he

(06:05):
can drive an Indy car and all that. But think
about having to work with other drivers and twenty fifth. Yeah,
that's that's a pretty good over under. But we have
not discussed this in advance with the rest of the
gang here. I would like to get everyone's take, just
to throw out a number where you think the over

(06:27):
under should be for Old Eliot at Daytona. Let's start
with Brian. He's been to Daytona before.

Speaker 4 (06:34):
He's a three time winner of the Rolex twenty four,
so he has laps there now, not at speed on
the oval, but he did some this week in an
Arca car, So the over under is. It's so hard
to pick that because if you don't get in a
wreck and you're able to avoid the mess, I think
he can finish in the top five if you know,
if you get involved in a wreck, you're going to
be out of it. So that that's boy, it's so

(06:55):
hard to say. I'm just for argument's sake, I'd say
I'd take the over on that.

Speaker 3 (07:01):
Okay, where do you think the over unders should be? Fifteen?

Speaker 6 (07:08):
So I was gonna say, yeah, fifteen, that's what I
was looking at all of you. Yeah, I think so,
because fifteen is about you're taking that effect. If you
get caught up on a rec early none you're doing,
you're screwed, you're out. If you're smart and avoid the REX,
you can finish in at top ten pretty easy. So
that's kind of right in the middle there. And I
think he's a smart enough guy to avoid the REX,
I really do. I mean that his specialty is high

(07:29):
speed ovals like the Indy five hundred, where you have
to you know, you know, reaction time is everything right,
and he's able to be there at the end. That's
why he's one that raised four times. And it's kind
of the same deal at Daytona. You gotta be smart,
and I think he's a smart enough guy that he
can avoid the REX. If you can see him happening
before they are and kind of positions off to get
out of them, you're okay.

Speaker 7 (07:49):
And I think he's one of them smart guys, not
a charger guy.

Speaker 4 (07:52):
There's plenty of drafting with those prototype cars. I mean
when they come out of the Chicane before you get
into turn three, they're wide open all the way around
util you get to the front stretch, and he spends
you know, many many hours in those so yeah.

Speaker 5 (08:03):
True, I think he's gonna have a problem finding a
drafting partner because if people see that he's doing all right,
they probably aren't going to be opposed to working with him.
Now when it comes to the final lapse, gloves are off.

Speaker 6 (08:15):
But his partner's teammate partners will be what Suarez and
Chastain I mean now Chesstain and he may be show
him pretty hard. Now he can handle that, he'll be
all right. You know, Ross is kind of at the
opt today, float on.

Speaker 3 (08:30):
A little bit. We need you to draft with the
ninety one car, okay.

Speaker 5 (08:36):
Well, and maybe they'll be reverse position.

Speaker 6 (08:39):
I think Ross bus is too hard sometimes, you know
Ross Ross kind of guys.

Speaker 7 (08:44):
Want to go.

Speaker 3 (08:46):
I'm all blowing away? How you think this is gonna be?
And and I hope I'm wrong too.

Speaker 4 (08:52):
And he's won an Iraq race according to Paul from Racini,
he's won an Iraq race. So that's a stock car
race right there. And IRAQ hasn't been around for a
long time.

Speaker 7 (09:00):
True.

Speaker 3 (09:00):
I think of the seven time champion who has recently
got into these cars and tried to race and has
had nothing but bad luck. And see, here's the thing.

Speaker 4 (09:13):
You get old habits with the old car. Helio never
drove the old car, so he's getting into this car
open minded. I think there's a there's a point where
you adapt to these cars better when you did not
run the old cars for so many years.

Speaker 7 (09:25):
And look at the flip side.

Speaker 6 (09:25):
Jimmy Johnson over to Indy car and had all kinds
of problems on a road course, but when he got
to the ovals he kind of kind of shined it.
And five he was what twelve, but he was he
was leading with a couple with less than what ten
laps to go or fifteen laps to go? He was
leading the race.

Speaker 4 (09:40):
It puts it. It makes it five hundred that much
more interesting.

Speaker 3 (09:42):
I'll tell you that, yes, it does make it interesting.
I cannot see him finishing their race. Whatever the over
under is, I'm taking the under. I know I'm very
pessimistic about things. Glad you're listening. LTN will return going
manufacturing company.

Speaker 8 (10:01):

Miller's sales and service of Random Lake is where to
go for a trailer, no matter what you're hauling. Tom
and Jerry Miller have been selling trailers from B and
B Trophy and Bravo for over fifty years. Quality and
integrity is what put them on the map. On the
corner of fifty seven in k since nineteen thirty nine,
home with the number eighty nine Dirt and Asphalt cars
of Brad Miller. That's Miller's sales and service. It's where

(11:28):
to go for a trailer. Just twenty minutes north of

Speaker 7 (11:51):
What see.

Speaker 3 (11:55):
Well, it's one of those rare occasions where we get
to have a person on who is going to talk
about racing and maybe a different form than many of
us are used to, certainly me because I have never
been a notoriously strong sprint car fan. And what a

(12:16):
better way to learn with Steve Sinclair who's joining us. Steve,
of course has been a long time promoter of IRA
and other things, but we know him from there. But
I think what's most important to Steve anyway, and I
know it was to me. Steve is a recent going

(12:38):
to be inducted into the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame.
This coming may at the ultimate honor really for anybody
in this business. Steve joining us for the first time
in our forty one seasons here on this program. Great
to have you. It's an honor for all of us.

Speaker 2 (12:55):
Steve, I greatly appreciate that. Thanks for the kind words there. Actually,
actually I was on the show once before and now
we're gonna go back. I forget the years. So there
was a little controversy years ago where the World of
Outlaws were racing at Beaver Dam and I'm going back, boy,

(13:16):
probably nineties, early nineties, mid nineties whatever, and World of
out Laws came and not a lot of the IRA
guys supported the event, so it was a big hubbub,
I guess the controversy. And you guys heading me on
regarding that back in the.

Speaker 3 (13:35):
Day, hmmm, back in the day. All right, Well, at
my age, I'm glad I remember how to get up
in the morning. That's good, Ryan.

Speaker 4 (13:46):
So Steve is Steve, give us a little bit of
background for those that don't that don't know you. You
work for Cank Insurance. You also promote many World of
Outlaw races. You're the series directors slash owner. I would
call it of the IRA. I guess just give give
all the the listeners a little background on what you
do and how you've gotten to the point you have.

Speaker 2 (14:05):
I guess I got here. Like many people, I'm generational,
you know, second generation racer. So my dad was in
nineteen fifty seven was the you know, Great Lags Dragway
Superstock champion and then he you know, he was pretty
good at building engines, and stuff, and he started building
engines for lots of different types of race cars. So

(14:26):
when I grew up, the family two car garage always
had two race cars in it, and they were never
the same type. So we had drag cars, we had
road racing cars that eventually led to you know, midgets
and sprints and such that he was maintaining for people
and building their engines. And you know, so back in

(14:46):
the heydays of the trans Am series, back when you
know Don at U and Penske and Parnelli Jones and
Bud Moore and you know, and Dan Gurney and all
these people were involved, we had a little you know,
we had a Camaro out of the family that ran
you know, about half the schedule the stuff that was
in reason. So I've been to Mossport, Watkins, Glen Brainard

(15:08):
was called downty Brook back in the day, and of
course Rode America, you know a lot of other road
racing tracks across the country, so excuse me. So that's
that's we're kind of where it started. And then he
started doing the midget sprint stuff and I just you know,
I got hooked. So he built the engines for a
local Chicago sprint car guy named Frank Filskoe, and you know,

(15:31):
Frank was pretty pretty stout on the IRA circuiting at Wilmot.
I think we finished thirteen points in ninety two and
you know, one like nine features that year. And ironically,
Frank was killed at a Whorld of out Law sprint
car race at Hartford, Michigan, in end of nineteen ninety six.

Speaker 4 (15:53):
So that's been that long already, Holy cow is Yeah.

Speaker 2 (15:57):
Yeah. So in ninety now, after the ninety two season
with IRA, at the IRA banquet, a lot of the
guys got together and I was starting to write for
Midwest Racing News at that time, and I was fairly
boisterous on some of my opinions, and I think some
of the guys were actually buying into what I was saying.

(16:17):
The next thing, I know, they cornered me, and I
wasn't sure if they were going to beat me up
or or what was going on. Next thing, I know,
they they recruited me to kind of take the thing over.
So back then IRA was a club, and you know
it was like, you know, one year terms as president,
So I did. I did a year, and then eventually
it became two years and after that, the IRS got

(16:41):
involved a little bit and I didn't like our non
for profit status, so he became a corporation, and you know,
so I got on paper. I'm the primary owner of IRA,
and I've got some other people, the Tennis and family
and Kevin Space, long time IRA supporters, are also involved.
And yeah, that's kind of how it evolved. And you know,

(17:05):
I never in my loudest dreams thought it would get
to this point, but you know, here we are, and
I did. I did have a pretty good stint where
I was part of a company called SLS Promotions, which
which still exists, but I'm just not I'm not one
of the partners anymore. We're back in from like two
thousand and two thousand and two to two thousand and seven,

(17:27):
you know, we were promoting you know, twenty five World
of Outlaw events all across the country in a season,
plus doing the IRA thing and and everything else. So
that helped. I met a lot of people during that time,
and it's pretty cool to promote races at legendary places
like Man's Anita and Oklahoma City Fairgrounds and stuff, So

(17:47):
that helped get the name out there. And I certainly
learned a lot from people and tried to apply as
much as I could the IRA thing.

Speaker 4 (17:55):
So you're still not You're not a part of SLS
promotions anymore, you know.

Speaker 2 (17:58):
I haven't been for years however, or however, I am
involved in the Plymouth All About race this year.

Speaker 3 (18:04):
Okay.

Speaker 2 (18:06):
I mean we're all buds, me and scatter bugs, and
I just they were traveling far across, you know, they
were going more places and I could do trying to
do IRA at the same time. And my heart's kind
of with the IRA thing. So my r and the
best financial decision. But that's where my heart was at.

Speaker 4 (18:25):
So your day job then is part of KNK Insurance,
So I guess tell the people a little bit about
what you do as far as the insurance side and
visiting race tracks and seeing making sure the safety is
up to standard for all these places.

Speaker 2 (18:38):
So yes, my day job that pays the bulk of
the bills is with K and K and I am
what they call a field underwriter. So my job is
to go out to these tracks about every three years
and just just take a look and make sure that
you know, things are somewhat you know, up to guidelines.

(18:59):
You know, fence scene and cables and grandstands, and it's
you know, most of your claims in a racetrack. You know, drivers,
stuff is expected. We all know it's it's risky and
things are going to happen that way. But it's it's
the liability claims that you've got to try and avoid.
And it could be something as much as a you know,

(19:20):
somebody tripping on a bleacher board or you got a
bunch of potholes in a parking lot. Those are the
things that are will lead you up. It's it's not
really the racing as much as it is the clumsy
stuff so and that can happen even at the best
of places, but try and go out there.

Speaker 3 (19:39):
Steve Sinclair, he's the promoter for the IRA and there's
lots more to talk to you about, Steve. I hope
you can hang in through the break, certainly, thank you,
all right, we'll be back with Steve Sinclair right after.

Speaker 10 (19:52):

The Packers are the seventh seed and head to Philly

Doug Russell is live from the Pottawatamese Sports Book at
eleven am. Kick off at three thirty on your home
for the Green Bay Packers ninety seven to three.

Speaker 2 (22:10):
The game.

Speaker 3 (22:15):
Take the packers in the points we're talking to Steve Sinclair,
noted insurance salesman. I'm sorry, that just seemed to fit
a long time promoter open wheel racing. And this is
apparently the second time we've had him on. The first
time was about thirty years ago from what we're figuring

(22:35):
out here.

Speaker 6 (22:36):
Yeah, it's been that long as you go back that far,
and it's hard to remember all, you know, how many
years this pot it's not in the air, But Steve,
the world of sprint car racing has never really been
on a bigger stage and is right now. I mean
with the World out Laws and now the High Limits
Series coming in and he had guys like Larson and
Bell and these guys that have jumped over to the
asphalt side and become you know, superstars there. So and

(22:59):
IRA this is you own here is kind of the
probably one of the best regional series I think in
in the country with the drivers that support it. And
that is having these two big uh you know, world
are there's two big stage series like the Outlaws and
the High Limit Series.

Speaker 7 (23:13):
Is that good for a regional series like the IRA?

Speaker 2 (23:17):
Yes and no. Uh. From a detention standpoint, certainly trying
to put a schedule together. No, So I'll give you
an example. So, Ira, we we've got guys, you know,
two thirds of the teams, let's say, are from Wisconsin.
The other third are split up from central Illinois uh
to north east Indiana, and and when you're trying so

(23:41):
that's a pretty big region, and it's just impossible to
avoid some conflicts, you know. So you know, we sit
down obviously when the Outlaws come to town and our
guys support them, you know, when they're at Plymouth or
Bibergham or wherever, right and then but you know it's
hard to do that when they're at Butler, Michigan and
I've got teams that are based there, or They're at

(24:03):
Granite City, Illinois and I've got teams that are based there.
So you know, it's putting the schedule together was It
was no fun this year. It was the most difficult
thing I've I've been involved with in my This is
my like my thirty third year of doing that, and
it's complicated. I still didn't release the full thing. It's
coming out Wednesday, and it's just you know, we still

(24:24):
have I've got to get twenty five shows in so
we schedule like thirty two. I got to get twenty
five in to keep our sponsors happy before they start,
you know, taking away you know, you know, doing a
ratio on my you know what cost is pervent stuff.

Speaker 3 (24:41):
You don't want that to happen.

Speaker 4 (24:43):
The biggest challenge comes with when the Outlaws are nearby.
You don't want to run an iracial against them.

Speaker 3 (24:50):
Correct?

Speaker 4 (24:50):
Is that what you're getting at?

Speaker 2 (24:52):
Correct? Correct? So so the things you have to think
about is, you know, work days off. Okay, so this
year high limit coming to one forty one speedway on
a Tuesday. Then they're going the Red Seater Speedway which
is way up in Monominee on Wednesday, and then Friday
the World of Outlaws start the very same week. Tell
me there's not a little competition there but Friday, Friday

(25:15):
at Plymouth, Saturday at beaver Dam, Sunday at Angel Park.
So if you're doing that weekday stuff, it's potentially four
days offul work, right, and the drivers always figure out
a way to get off. It's the cruise and stuff, right,
and it's us alsen nights on engines, you know, through
a typical four ten engine. A guy I'll run between
fifteen and twenty nights. Well, if they're doing that whole

(25:36):
five day swing, that's a lot and it just ate
up a lot of vacation days. So you know, I'm
trying to put a similar schedule together with similar amounts
of dates, but it's going to look a lot different
because there's going to be big, gaping holes in it.
And if you're looking at it, you're thinking, well, why
are they off for these two or three weeks. Well,
it's because the Outlaws are in the area, you know,

(25:57):
and we've got to support it, you know. I mean
I was in high limbit both, and we come with
half the cars. The other half are going to be
made up of local guys, so we don't we don't
put points to them or anything, but we certainly stay
off of them, and guys that want to support them will.
And it's got to the point now where everybody needs cars,
so some of these guys that get paid to support them,

(26:17):
which is kind of nice.

Speaker 4 (26:19):
Do you think you think the platforms we have now
with both the world of Outlaws and the High Limit,
you think this is sustainable? I mean, late models have
been doing it for years. You know, I'm a late
model guy. I got a late molel Background, Lucasow and
a World of out Law have co existed now for
almost twenty years. Do you think this is something that's
going to be able to be sustainable where you have
these two top tier series and then you have this

(26:39):
large gap all the way down to where you have
the you know, the regional series. You don't have that
middle like you had the All Stars for all those
years where people could go and jump on that. I mean,
is this a sustainable platform?

Speaker 2 (26:50):
I don't know. I'm concerned. And what I'm concerned about
is there's outside money coming in. You know, back in
the day we all grew up with, the event had
to pay for itself. There had to be x amount
of people in the stands, you know, they have X
amount of sponsorship, you know, combined, and the event had
to pay for itself. You've got all this outside money
coming in, and the streaming thing is just it's so different.

(27:13):
I'm still I'm still trying to figure it out. We're
on the Flow platform, but the World of Outlaws own
Dirt Vision, so that's a whole different you know, it's
a whole second second deal there. But I don't know,
it's just it's not the same and it's certainly not
as much fun as it used to be. But you know,
it's serious bringing a lot of attention. You know, our

(27:35):
crowds are good, you know, and you never know who's
drifting in on any given weekend. Now, however, some of
those regional guys that were guys that would drift in
on occasion and would just chase money, they're now kind
of getting on board with, you know, either series because
both series are scrambling for cars. So it's interesting, but
I'm not sure about the sustainability that is a concern. Absolutely.

Speaker 4 (27:59):
Can you see the All Stars coming back to the
form where they were before? I mean those All Star
versus IRA events that we had here when they made
the tour around here. I mean, that was great stuff
and it seems like there's a little hole without having that.
And I see they're coming back this year, primarily hanging
out in the Ohio Pennsylvania area. But have you talked
to them, is that something in the future we may
see come back?

Speaker 2 (28:19):
Oh yeah, we talk all the time. And they're on
the flow platform as well. High Limit probably owns man
should they owns, but they control the All Stars because
they had the name. So when Rich Farmer, who owns
the Fremont Speedway, wanted to bring him back, he had,
you know, pay high limit for the uce of the name.

(28:39):
And it's more of a IRA type of series with
the famous All Star name attached to it for now.
You know, we'll see where it goes from there. But yeah,
you know that those close ancient races. I'm not even
sure if you guys know this. So because of the
relationship with Tony Stewart owning the All Stars back in
the day, and Tony would come up in race IRA

(29:03):
races and some of those coasanctioned races at Plymouth and
Wilmot and Dodge County and other places. He really liked
coming up here and racing the sprint car But because
of that relationship and I guess hearing me on the radio,
so when he was a big part of SRX deal
the last year of the SRX existence, he actually called

(29:24):
me up. I was a race director, So a sprint
car guy was a race director for SRX in our
final year, which I thought was kind of interesting and
it was an awesome experience for me.

Speaker 3 (29:35):
This is Steve Sinclair in case you don't recognize the voice.
He's the longtime promoter of IRA and has had his
world basically revolve around sprint car racing for his whole
life and be going into that National Sprint Car Hall
of Fame in Knoxville coming up in May thirty first.
So it's a pretty great day. We're gonna sneak away

(29:57):
for another break. We're glad you're tuned in. Steve will
be better with us right after these messages.

Speaker 8 (30:02):

chose Bonafi because of the services they offer, pricing and

Miller Sales and Service of Random Lake is where to
go for a trailer, no matter what you're hauling. Tom
and Jerry Miller have been selling trailers from B and
B Trophy and Bravo for over fifty years. Quality and
integrity is what put them on the map. On the
corner of fifty seven in k since nineteen thirty nine,
home of the number eighty nine dirt and asphalt cars
of Brad Miller. That's Miller's sales and service. It's where

(31:31):
to go for a trailer, just twenty minutes north of Milwaukee.
Call him nine two zero nine nine four four three
five eight.

Speaker 13 (31:37):
Sunday, the Packers are and Billy for a first round
matchup with the Eagles. Doug Russell is live from the
Pottawatamee Sports Book at eleven am. Kickoff at three thirty
on your home for the Great Bay Packers ninety seven
to three the game.

Speaker 3 (31:56):
We are lucky enough to have Steve Sinclair on the
pro M something to do in the offseason, talk about
what's coming up this year and Steve, it's always great
to have you. Second time this is I'm thrilled Daniel
you got something for him.

Speaker 2 (32:12):
Yeah.

Speaker 6 (32:12):
I think the big announcement this season of the biggest
thing that stuck out on the schedule that came out
was the World out Laws returning to Plymouth on June sixth.
I mean it was actually not returned to coming to Plymouth.
You know, they've had some great sprint car races at Plymouth.
I think back of the Stewart Tony Sturt versus Bill
Bailog races are probably some of the best sprint car
races I've ever seen there.

Speaker 7 (32:30):
I think that's gonna be a big deal this year, Steve.

Speaker 6 (32:32):
I know it kicks off your your three race weekend
with Plymouth, Beaver Dam and and Sun Prairie. I think
as a talk about that a bit, how did how
did it get to get the Wild Out laws back
to Plymouth.

Speaker 7 (32:41):
How did that come about?

Speaker 2 (32:43):
Well, Scott Boyd, who is you know, he's one of
the SLS partners. He he's a stever Dam owner, and
I think knowing that beaver Dam was going to go
in the market and be for sale, I think Scott
was wise enough to start getting some contact with other
local tracks to potentially replaced the Biebertam dates in the future.

(33:05):
So I you know, Limit and Angel Park of the
two closest tracks in proximity to Bibert amine it. So
I already got a market for it, and I rays
built a pretty good fan following it both as well.
So it it made sense.

Speaker 6 (33:20):
And I think we should pretty good, you know, feel
the cars old events and they come back here because
of the three race stretch. Now in the days go
back to some of those great Plymouth races, the Stuart
Baylog think. I mean I remember one of those races.
I think Tony just kind of showed up on ourn Allans,
didn't he. He told you he was coming ahead of time,
but but we weren't supposed to talk about it. Didn't
everybody know him and put on a great race with Baylog.

Speaker 7 (33:41):
And you talk about that a little bit.

Speaker 2 (33:43):
Yeah. Yeah, I think the first time Tony came out
here was I wanted to say, like twenty thirteen and yeah,
you know at the time, you know that he didn't
really we knew each other, but we didn't really have to,
you know, a really big time relationship. So there was
way there was different packages to get Tony. So they
called up, told me he wanted to come. You know,

(34:03):
if you wanted to advertise them, then you had to
you had to pay a fee, and you know, blah
blah blah. There's different ways of doing it. And the
first time is uh, and I've been doing that race
of Plymouth. So I kind of told them, uh, you know, well,
I'll be glad to make you a partner after this number.
This is the number I usually you know, get anything
above that, yeah, we'll cut you in, you know. So

(34:24):
it started that way, and after a while he just
liked comming, so we didn't even have a deal anymore.
I didn't have to pay them. He just liked coming.
And him and Bailog had three shows in particular, I think,
uh they'll won two of them. I think Tony one
the other. They were just spectacular, just trading sliders back
and forth and fans on their feet, and it was great.

(34:46):
And I think that, you know, when then when Tony
took you know, took over the All Stars, they had
a lot to do with them wanting to come up here,
and they would allow me to pretty much just pick
the dates and set the schedule when they would come
up here, and you just you know, the trust level
was that good, which you know menuallyl SRX.

Speaker 4 (35:03):
Deal one of the one of the other ones the
listener brought up on on the chat here was I
forget what year it was, but Rico showed up at
Dodge County for I believe that was an IRA race
and he actually flipped and won the race. When was that?
Do you remember remember that?

Speaker 2 (35:17):
Oh? I do remember the race. I forget the year.
But yeah, so Rico got upside a hound like on
lap two or three, and uh, you know, he wasn't
too happy. I think he was laughing somebody already, but
he and it wasn't an IRA guy he crashed over.
It was an outsider that came in, by the way.
But either way, so, so Rico goes back to he's
kind of given up, he's mad, he's you know, he

(35:38):
goes off and you know, and he's the car wasn't
that bad? So some IRA guys you know, got together
and next thing you others, you know, fifteen people working
on the car, they get it fixed rather easily. He
goes to the tail and when's the thing from the
tail that was pretty impressive the first time there as well?

Speaker 4 (36:00):
Right before we let you go with the IRA for
the upcoming season. Here I see, you know, Logan Julian
is going to jump into the seventy three car with Ozzie.
He's committed to running the whole season. What else do
you have out there as far as rookie guys that
are going to come out, guys that are going to return.
What's what's the twenty twenty five season looking like for
the IRA?

Speaker 2 (36:18):
Well, I think it's pretty good. I think most guys
to my knowledge, are coming back. Murky Wise, Tim Heady Junior,
Rod Coburn's son Tommy is coming on board. Max Gildford
from New Zealand who won a race at beaver And

(36:39):
last year. He's taken over the ride that Tyler Rankins
rolled last year, so that cars based in northeast Indiana
and now they've committed to do the whole deal. So
you know, there's a Rookie of the Year contender as
well as a championship contender, Scottie Brody out of Minnesota.
I think he's going to be around for a bunch
of it. And Alex Pokorski is going to move up

(37:03):
from the three to sixty level and race at least
eighty percent of the schedule. And you know, and most
of our guys are back. You're Scotty Knight, Soels and
Chris Pitz's and Danny Slaper's and Jordan Goldsberry and Austin Hartman,
Jake Blackhurst, Tyler Braid, Matt They're all back. So I
think we weren't pretty good shape.

Speaker 4 (37:23):
The only one we really haven't heard from is the
defending champ of Scotti. Feel haven't, and I'm good friends
with him, and I haven't heard anything out of him either,
and you haven't either.

Speaker 2 (37:31):
I assume, Well, you know, when I saw the stuff
for sale, I thought nothing of it because Scotty would
update his equipment every off season anyway, so I didn't
think anything of it. And so he's really got the
ability to have everything you I think he didn't own
and that really was his team last year, so that
the press release was kind of I don't know, it

(37:52):
made it look like he got fired, which isn't the
case because it was his team. They just kind of split,
you know. But the only thing Scotty didn't have it with,
you know that as he brought to the table was
a total home and the engines and so the so
the engines and stuff. Now that's going Julian's way, but
that is the most expensive piece. So you know, Scotty's

(38:14):
out there, you know, looking for things, and I know
that he was hoping to use the IRA Championship as
a you know, stepping stone to something bigger. So I
know he's out there talking to national teams and I
just don't know what he's got. I'm sure he'll come
up with something.

Speaker 7 (38:30):
He's a talent, and you know he's very talented.

Speaker 6 (38:32):
But you know, Steved Finally, before we let you go here,
we got to say congratulations of that National Sprinter Hall
of Fame election for all you've done in the sport
and all the aspects he was involved from pretty much
everywhere at any place. Think way to go to a
race or be a part of a race, You've been
a part of it to be elected into that. I
think it's got to be something special. Congratulations that you
just talk about that means.

Speaker 2 (38:53):
I can't even begin to tell you how much it
means to me. I kind of, you know, I I
knew I was a finalist the last several years, and
then when it doesn't happened, he kind of think, you know,
maybe your day has passed. And when the phone rang
this year, it didn't even dawn on me what they
were calling about. So Bob Baker from the Hall of
Fame called and he just asked me what I was doing.
I said, hey, I'm working on my schedule, and he says, well,

(39:17):
you might want to consider leaving May thirty. First off,
and soon you know, su as you said that Boom,
I knew, and so I knew going into PRI, but
I wasn't allowed to tell anybody. So that was really
difficult walking around PRI with that secret. But I am
just tickled and and you know, I'm most proud of
that the fact that IRA and we're a regional deal.

(39:38):
A lot of regional people don't get in. You know,
Joe Roape probably deserves to be in as a driver,
but again it's tough to get a regional guy in there,
and it's just I've learned so much from doing the
national things and tried to apply the IRA and IRA's
got the biggest We're the biggest little series there is,
in my opinion from an infrastructure standpoint. We were the

(39:59):
first to have a traveling safety team and that goes
back to the Gil Radkey days, you know, and we
took them from Hales Corners and Gil was traveling with
us and he's retired, but we still have a team.
And you know, I've got Cody Tennyson that works for
my race, passes our head score. We come complete no
nobody else, no other regional series comes complete like we do.

(40:19):
You alls we need is an ambulance, a couple of
tow trucks and push trucks and we can put on
a show. Everything else we do ourselves.

Speaker 3 (40:27):
And see for a guy that for a guy that
has dedicated his life to racing on behalf of all
of us here at LT and we're just throwed for
you that you're going into that Sprint Car Hall of Fame.
And it's been really great having you on the program. Hey,
we should have you more often than every thirty years,
don't you think I.

Speaker 2 (40:47):
Greatly appreciate it. I really do. And we can talk
stock car racing and the SRX thing.

Speaker 3 (40:52):
Next time, maybe, Beautiful Steve Sinclair, thanks so much for
joining us. We're going to sneak away when we come back.
We've got some results for you. That's right. We're already
racing all over the place and we'll talk about that
right after these.

LTN Hour presints turn on that Dirch with Brian Schmidt.

Speaker 4 (43:27):
Yes, their trek racing up and going here out in
the Southwestport portion of the country will start. Last Sunday Batto,
New Mexico Night number two of the Wild West Shootout
and Bobby Pierce made it two for two. That's probably
one of the best races you're gonna see. That might
be up for Race of the Year. Garrett Alberson, Bobby Pierce,
Brandon Sheppard an incredible event. If you get a chance
to go back and see that one from last Sunday night,

(43:48):
that was a doozy. Fast forward to Wednesday, Vato was
postponed because it was ridiculously called out there, but they
did get the IMCA TV Winternationals underway in Casa Grande Arizon,
not the Central Arizona Raceway. Eighty one IMC modds show
up down there for that. Luke Silbert was your night
number one winner. IMCA stock cars went to Braden Richards

(44:09):
Thursday night. They were gonna make up Wednesday night's portion
at Vado, but they got three inches of snow and
had to cancel the event for that night. They did
race at Casa Grande for night number two of the
AMC TV Winternationals. Eaton Broxma was your Modified winner. The
stock cars went to Todd Heinrich Friday night. They got the
snow melted and they got back to racing Vado. For
the nineteen ten yearl Wild West Shootout ten thousand dollars

(44:31):
to win, Garrett Alberson was your winner and the modifieds
went to Kyle Strickler Casa Grande Night number three of
the IMCA TV Winternationals. Chaz Bacca was your Modified winner
and the stock cars went to Dallan Murdy. Last night,
Bato New Mexico another ten thousand dollars to win. For
the super late Models, Bobby Pierce made it three three
of four for the weekend, picking up the win. Dustin

(44:53):
Soornsen got the win in the modifieds and in Casa
Grande for the IMCA tv W Internationals, Ricky Alvarado got
the win of the modifieds. The stock cars went to
Brayden Richards. That's everything for this week. The uh Winternet
the Wild West Shootout wraps up today out at Battle
Raceway Park. The IMCA TV Internationals will continue on next
week at Casa Grande, Arizona. Lucas Sol eight Model Series

(45:16):
will get their season started. It has been pushed back now.
They were supposed to have practice on Wednesday, start racing
on Thursday, but the ridiculously cold weather in the Southeast,
they've moved everything back. They're gonna practice on Thursday, and
they're gonna open up their season on Friday down in Brunswick, Georgia.
And of course, as we mentioned earlier, the Big Chili
Bowl Nationals will get underway this week. They practice today

(45:37):
and they start, Yeah, they start racing already on Monday.
There are seven NASCAR Cup Series drivers that are registered
for the event. Kyle Larson, Kyle Busch, Christopher Bell, Ricky Stendhous, Junior,
Ty Gibbs is gonna be in this race. JJ Railey
and Josh Bolicky, our own Josh Bilicky will be down there.
Ben Schmidt, the champion of the three sixties a Plymouth,
has also entered in that event, so that is always

(45:58):
an incredible race. I believe there are three hundred forty
seven entries, so must see TV starting tomorrow night.

Speaker 7 (46:04):
Do we know what nights people run yet? Are they
just get those?

Speaker 4 (46:07):
That list is out there. I don't have it in
front of me, but it is all the different five
nights of when they're going to be running, so it's
definitely it's out there. You can check it out online.

Speaker 6 (46:16):
And how that works each night is like their own
separate event, right, and you have to qualify or you
have to finish in the top so much in the
future top.

Speaker 4 (46:23):
Three the winner, I think first and second are automatically
into the amain and then they put you alphabet soup
wise all the way on down. I believe. I think
Ben Schmid is running Friday and Friday night. I want
to say, but yeah, it's listed on there. If you
go to the Chili Bowls website, it has a listing
of when everyone is running each individual day.

Speaker 7 (46:42):
And on the asphalt side, a lot, a lot going on. PJ.

Speaker 5 (46:45):
Not a lot going on, but the ASA Stars Tour
has announced more of their drivers. We'll just kind of
recap where we're at with that. So far, we have
ten cars committed to run the entire series, which includes
two dates up here in Wisconsin at Madison and at
Slinger on Father's Day weekend. So Billy van Meter with
Van Dorn Racing is committed. Austin Nason out of Illinois

(47:09):
once again going to run the whole tour. Derek Thorn
will be back, this time with Highland Motorsports. Chase Pissenall
will be there with Carson Hos of r Racing. RTT
Jones Racing will have a car. They haven't officially announced anybody.
We'll see Cole Butcher, Gavin Bouchell. They're both going to
be running Donny Wilson cars, and then Donny Wilson has

(47:31):
another car. I was just texting with Danny Frederickson to
see if his son Ty would be filling that third seat.
He says no, it was too much money. They're going
to try to run independently with their own equipment, so
we'll see.

Speaker 7 (47:46):
He did say it was.

Speaker 5 (47:47):
Probably going to be George Phillips, So I'm just throwing.

Speaker 7 (47:50):
That out there.

Speaker 5 (47:51):
Dawson Sutton will be back with Racley War that's his
family's team and big sponsor for the ASA Stars Tour.
And then if you miss it, Bubba Pollard has signed
the contract. He will be running the full ASA Stars
National Tour. And I had Marty Mellow we had him
on here last week, but I also had him on
my Racing Nuggets podcast and talk to him quite a

(48:14):
bit about that. Sounds like there's actually going to be
thirteen cars so far at least when we recorded that
will be committed to the ASA Stars Tour. They put
a lot of effort and money into it, so we'll
see how that all pans out. Looks like it's gonna
be something to definitely keep an eye on.

Speaker 3 (48:30):
Yeah, I think so.

Speaker 6 (48:30):
I think it's kind of cool to have that, you know,
those cars are going to come to every event, especially
when they come up here on the Northern Swing with
Madison and Slinger, because that's kind of a drive for
a lot of those guys, and it was always kind
of if you're helping those guys that actually make that
trip up here, but if they're locked in and part
of this deal. I think that's great all around because
you know what you're going to get when they come here.
And I look at those races of Madison races pretty
decent last year and now Slinger beat on the deal.

(48:52):
This is a great way to prepare for the Slayer National.
So you might see a lot of cars just you know,
pile on on that one.

Speaker 5 (48:59):
I think so too. I think we're going to see
a lot of really great locals really play in a
big role as spoiler when these they come up here.
Bubba Pollard has run obviously at Madison and Slinger for
that matter, with some success, so we'll see what he's
got up his sleeve for this year. And again we're
still kind of waiting to see if Anthony Campy Racing

(49:20):
is going to throw their hat into the ring for
the Stars National Tour and if we'll see Steven Nassy
teamed up with them or independently, we'll see. I don't
think Nassy will do it independently. He's going to need
to have a team to run with, so we shall see.
We'll be back after these messages.

App Welcome back to the LTN Hour. Got a few
little nuggets left to share yet this this afternoon, so
we'll head over with Dan and Brian to chat a
little bit about the legal update with NASCAR. We kind

(52:23):
of touched on that at the start.

Speaker 7 (52:26):
Yeah, not much happened this week with that. I mean,
the the motion to dismiss was denied.

Speaker 6 (52:31):
If you know, NASCAR filed the motions has dismissed this
whole thing, and the judge said no, it's going to
continue on. So that's kind of where that stands now.
There's still appeals and all that out there to be heard,
but that's kind of where that sits as we go
into the new year. A lot of the big things
happening this week was you know, a lot of new
rules that NASCAR announced, and we mentioned the one with
the castro nevis and the that originally has. They also

(52:55):
modified their waiver deal where if you get a waiver,
a playoff waiver for something that's not medical I guess
apparently a birth of a child consent or this too
as well as medical. But if it's anything like like
Kyle Larson running the eighty five hundred and missing the
Charlotte race, if they grant you that waiver for something
like that, you're gonna lose all your.

Speaker 7 (53:13):
Playoff points up until that point. We'll start over. That's
kind of a big, big whack at that.

Speaker 6 (53:17):
And it's kind of funny because at one side we said,
well we'll take we'll take drivers from other series, you know,
if you're pretty famous in the Indy Cars or F
one or him, so I'll come and run our races.

Speaker 7 (53:25):
We'll give you a spot.

Speaker 6 (53:26):
But if one of our guys is the only ones
on your races for a publicity, boy, we're gonna hammer
if they'll make make their schedules.

Speaker 4 (53:32):
That one smells in my opinion, doesn't it? No kidding?

Speaker 7 (53:35):
I mean I don't.

Speaker 5 (53:36):
I don't like that one, No kidding. Arca did some
testing as well too, down at Daytona. As long as
we're kind of talking about NASCAR, but Daytona there with
ARCA that got a lot of guys down there. I
know Ty Frederickson was down there as Rookie of the
Year for the Midwest Tour. He ended up getting to
go down there and test at a pretty good run
for that as well too. Any other notables that you

(53:57):
guys paid attention to that you thought were well.

Speaker 4 (54:00):
They had seventy different drivers took time down there, so
an incredible amount of people that were down there running.
Amber Balkan ended the whole event as the fastest. She
was in a Nitrol Motorsports car, which if you follow
Transam at all, Nitrol Motorsports is a big figure in
trans Am. They have a lot of different people to
run a well. They moved over and now have some
KA teams that they're putting together. So she was the

(54:22):
fastest one overall. Chase pinsen Alt was an events Ventorini car.
He was right up there in the top. Jake Finch
was in a Ventarini car. Isabella Robusto another good female
driver that's up and coming in the Toyota pipeline. She
had a solid run there. So the other's Catherine legg
is going to run the Daytona race in the ARCA series.
She's a longtime Indy Car competitor. She she had a

(54:45):
pretty decent time. Corey Day one of the guys that
signed a big Hendrick Motorsports deal. He's driving one of
Spier Motorsports ARCA cars. He was nineteenth on the board.
Had some good times there. William Suwallace was down there,
as we know. Brett Cruz, Gio Riggio Hello, Astronavis put
some laps in a in a Pinnacle Racing Group car.
That's the car last year. Uh, the one that that

(55:08):
Luke Fenhouse ran a couple of years ago. Oh yeah, yeah,
he had some runs. He was twenty seventh up there.
Brandon Butterbean Queen he was also in one of those
Pinnacle cars. So a lot of different drivers, Uh, taking
some time down there, Ty Frederickson, he was fortieth on
the board. Now, I mean you're talking fractions of a
second from the top to the bottom here.

Speaker 5 (55:24):
So well, he wasn't able to run in drafting yet either,
right right, because he's only.

Speaker 4 (55:29):
Fifteen and he was in a Natrol Motorsports car as well.
So I mean if ARCA is able to produce, now
this is a test and a lot of these guys
are hopping in the same car. But I mean it
looks strong and promising for ARCA that you have this
many people interested in taking part in a test, that
hopefully they have a strong season this year and they're
able to get their fields up.

Speaker 3 (55:46):
A little bit. I think everything is, oh go ahead, Dan.
A big deal of that.

Speaker 6 (55:50):
Why I have so many drivers interested in now is
that race at Daytona is on the big network this year.

Speaker 7 (55:55):
It's not on like FS one.

Speaker 2 (55:58):
Yeah, they have.

Speaker 4 (56:00):
Didn't they have, Like they had like over fifty cars
show up last year, Dan, didn't they.

Speaker 6 (56:03):
Yeah, they didn't end up running at the rain and
they after the truck race, we were there like at
one o'clock in the morning.

Speaker 4 (56:11):
I think. Yeah, I think the checker flag fell like
two o'clock. Yeah, it was pretty pretty incredible.

Speaker 5 (56:15):
So it'd be nice to see them be able to
extend that into the rest of the season with that
car count.

Speaker 4 (56:20):
It would be it's all about, you know, it's all
about if the dollars and cents, you know, work out,
And that's that's always been the biggest thing with ARKA
is being able to make it worth the while for
these guys to continue to do it. So time will tell,
as they say.

Speaker 6 (56:33):
You know, another thing that came out with these real
changes is that damaged vehicle policy got got revised that
you can take your car to the garage and fix
it and.

Speaker 7 (56:39):
Come back now you're not done good. I hated that rule.
I kind of did too.

Speaker 6 (56:43):
I got why it was there because there were guys
that were coming out of the out of the garage
with the stuff falling off their cars. I mean, you
got to make sure that when they get back on
the racetrack that they're worriedly getting back on the racetrack, right,
That's that's the big thing. But now if if you
or if you have flat tires, they're gonna tell you,
they'll tell you back.

Speaker 7 (56:58):
You can you know, change your tie, are working your
car and get back in the race and not be
automatically out.

Speaker 6 (57:02):
That kind of sucked for some of those guys that had,
you know, four flats and nothing else, but they're out
of the race.

Speaker 7 (57:07):
So that's a good, good revision. I guess on some
of the rules that were.

Speaker 5 (57:10):
There, I guess there is some saving grace for NASCAR.

Speaker 4 (57:13):
Then yep, we're not that far away from the start
of it. So that's a good start for them to
try to do that, because I I forget which race
it was last year, but one of them he simply
spun and had flat tires, and they told him through
the camp which one.

Speaker 6 (57:29):
Was Josh Barry, wasn't it. Yeah, that's right them off
in a parking lot and said too bad.

Speaker 4 (57:34):
Yeah, yeah, And you just can't have that. I mean,
this is this is multimillion dollar sponsorships you have on
there and a guy spins out in the first lap
and as cars parked for the day, that's that doesn't
make financial sense for the teams.

Speaker 3 (57:44):
Right indeed?

Speaker 2 (57:47):
So are you?

Speaker 5 (57:47):
And again, you guys are not going to be down
there in Daytona, are you? I will be Brian, okay,
so we will have updates from Dan.

Speaker 7 (57:57):
Yeah, I'll be down there of course.

Speaker 6 (57:59):
The schedule as far as the local races and who
Samara kicks off on Tuesday with the Stars race.

Speaker 7 (58:03):
I'm leaving Wednesday, so I won't make that one.

Speaker 6 (58:07):
But they did move the Orange Blossom one hundred the
other on hundred laps super Late Model race used to
be on Saturday night, that is going to be on
Thursday this year. So the little super late teams that
are there for tuesdays to the stick around another day
or two if they want to run the other on
hundred laps should be good. Vlusha is gonna have everything
going with the late models and the big block modifieds,
and of course everything going on with the big Track.

Speaker 7 (58:26):
It's gonna be a big weekend await for racing.

Speaker 5 (58:30):
Yeah, the off season is not so much off anymore, is.

Speaker 3 (58:33):
It, guys?

Speaker 1 (58:35):
Really?

Speaker 4 (58:35):
So we got the The super Bowl of Midget racing
is this week. So by this time next week we'll
have a Chili bowler who think's gonna win the Chili Bowl, Dan,
I think Christopher Bell is gonna get it done.

Speaker 6 (58:45):
He comes on the Bell and Larson, and maybe Larson
can finally beat Christopher Bell.

Speaker 4 (58:50):
Yes he's won that race, but he's never been able
to do it beating Christopher Bell. So I think that'll
be the cool part to see.

Speaker 5 (58:55):
All right, thanks for tuning in to the LGN Hour.
Will be back next week everyone who's listening on Facebook
and YouTube. We'll stick around for the hangover show for
Todd Bailing, Dan Logetta and Brian Schmidt.
