Dangerous Dan Margatta. Call the show anytime at four one
four four two one seventy nine oh one. And now
the creator and host of the Fastest Hour and Radio,

(00:32):
Todd Bailing.

Speaker 2 (00:35):
Except I'm not Todd Bailing. He is still jet sitting
around the world, but he will be back next week.
In the meantime, I am PJ. Neodleman kind of sitting
in the airchair for him. Joined by our co hosts,
mister Dan Margetta.

Speaker 3 (00:49):
Hello Dan, Morning, Sunday Morning, Another Sunday show, and we're
getting through the summer.

Speaker 2 (00:56):
Indeed we are. It's starting to heat up for sure.
Brian Schmidt joins us as well. Good morning, Brian morning.

Speaker 4 (01:03):
Yes, I would call this the dog days of summer.

Speaker 2 (01:05):
Yeah, usually it doesn't hit till August, but it feels
like it's here now.

Speaker 4 (01:09):
We're only a week away from a little over a
week away from August, so yet summer is flying by
in a hurry.

Speaker 2 (01:14):
I call it moist ass season because that's kind of
what it feels like. Yeah, swamp ass for sure, well,
we had a heck of a race at Sonoma, SVG
putting on a clinic. Holy smokes, he did a dandy
job out at Sonoma and picking up the win and
a bunch of stage points as well too, coming in

(01:36):
and being able to pit right before the break and
still end up either winning or finishing seconds and the
segment's pretty amazing.

Speaker 3 (01:43):
I believe how good he's I mean, I realized he
was good. He came in on the scene one that
Chicago race. But usually with these guys usually adapt enough
and usually kind of catch up to some of these ringers,
and they haven't caught up to him on the road course.
I mean, he's that much better than everybody else right now.
It's just surprising. I thought there were some guys that,
I mean, they give him a run for the money,
and they really haven't. And now you're out of a
situation where he's got he's tied for the most wins

(02:06):
this year, and as far as the playoff picture, he's
putting himself enough points in his bucket that he might
move a few rounds at a time, you know, way
quicker than we thought he would because he hasn't so
much in the Owls.

Speaker 4 (02:17):
Yeah, we have an We have another road course yet
in August as well, Watkins Glenn, where he's really good there.
I think we'lieve he won the Spinity Race there last year,
so I wouldn't be surprised if if he's able to
win it there. The rest of the field has got
to be very happy that you get a couple weeks
now of no more road courses and you get back
to the owls here and we'll see if he's human,
which I would assume he will be. But no practice

(02:39):
and no qualifying at all at Dover. So SPG because
of this metric, gets a really good starting spot today
at Dover, So if he can keep his head above
water there, ride it out, he could end up with
a decent finish today.

Speaker 2 (02:52):
Amazing honestly that that would happen. And why do we
have so many road courses lately? What do you guys
feel like is the reason for that?

Speaker 4 (03:00):
That's just how the schedule kind of lined up this
year with you know, moving Sonoma to July for the
first time and having Chicago be the week before, so
it kind of just lined up that they had two
of them together there. Now we have a couple of
week break with Dover, Indy, Iowa, and then we go
back to the Glen and then we only have one
left with the Roval. So you.

Speaker 3 (03:20):
Listen to what the fans have said. Remember when when
they a car we had before, wasn't that great on
the mile and a half the cookie cutter tracks, or
they got tired of those. Oh we don't have too
many of those. We need something, you know, different, Okay.
Then the car ran great on the road course, we
had great events, and oh we have road courses. Now
I have all these road courses. Then we got this
new car. Isn't the greatest on the road courses? Now
it's great back on the mile and a half that

(03:41):
we were just mad about a couple of years ago.

Speaker 2 (03:42):
So we don't know what we want.

Speaker 4 (03:47):
They messed with the car. And I've seen a couple
people talk last week how the old truck arm cars,
which is what the Xfinity cars are. The trucks and
the old cup cars are the best on a road course.
More wheel hopping, inconsistent, breaking, They're a little bit more
out of control. The road course purists don't like it
because that's not what road course racing is. But it

(04:07):
makes for exciting racing, and we don't have that with
this new car now because this new car is supposed
to be more like an Impsists style car. It's supposed
to glue to the ground. Well, it doesn't put on
the greatest racing because the cars are all the same
and imps the cars are all different, different manufactures, different engines,
different That's why you get the good racing there. You know,
when you have all the cars the same, it makes
it really hard to pass, which is why we had

(04:28):
kind of a snoozer at Sonoma.

Speaker 2 (04:30):
Instead of a glorified Irock race.

Speaker 4 (04:33):
Yeah, pretty much. And then when you have one guy
that's that much better than everybody else, he's just going
to kick everybody's ass and that's what he did.

Speaker 5 (04:39):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (04:40):
Yeah, I mentioned Chicago the street race that is officially
now off the table for twenty twenty six, but sounds
like they're kind of keeping the door open for the future.

Speaker 4 (04:50):
They want to, I mean, that's what they're talking about.
But you know, like how they say we're just putting
it on pause for twenty twenty six, Well, I don't know.
I mean, if I was a betting man, I don't
know that it'll be I mean five years maybe before
it comes back. If that, you know, we'll see. We'll
see what, see what they come up with. See if
they decide to go over to the Oval and try
that event. I don't know, there's been talk of that.

(05:13):
Who knows if that's gonna work.

Speaker 3 (05:15):
Got someone there. I mean, the event itself is pretty cool.
I mean, and I went and saw it and it was, yeah,
it's kind of eat. We're right racing in downtown. But
you got to make it sustainable, and I think that's
where the're gonna have to come up with a lot
of work to do that. It's great to have this event,
but you know, we can't be spending fifty million dollars
on it, and the city can't be shutting everything down,
and we can't lose money on it every year. I

(05:36):
think that's where they're at right now. If we want
to keep going, we can find a way to make
it sustainable, what works for everybody, they'll do it. I'm
not sure they can, though.

Speaker 4 (05:43):
We'll see, and you got to get people there, you know.
I think that's the other thing that we they never did.
Don't disclose the tenants numbers, but you know, the human
eye from our you know, sixth floor view showed there
wasn't nearly as many people there as there was other years,
and then the people that did show up couldn't see. So,
you know, if you want to get people there, you
want to get people excited, they got to be able
to come there and be able to witness the event,
and that I don't think they were able to pull

(06:04):
that off. You know, they had terrible weather the first
two years. You actually had somewhat decent weather this this year,
but you had the threat of rain, which may have
kept some people down it. It's hard to get people
in there. If you're going to get people out of
street circuit, they got to be able to get in there,
and they got to be able to see the product
that you're putting on the track, and I don't think
they were able to deliver that this last year.

Speaker 2 (06:22):
Well, and then you guys had kind of talked about
potential sniffing around San Diego, and now a story broke
on that that might be what they're looking at.

Speaker 4 (06:31):
There's talk that that could be announced as early as
this week, that they're going to race in the streets
of San Diego. But ironically enough, it's not in downtown
San Diego. It's in the island across the way in Coronado,
which is what they're eyeing. So if you do a
Google search and a Google map view of Coronado, you
can I don't know where they're actually going to put
a track there. They said there's more room for them

(06:52):
to have a better footprint and not disturb the day
to day operations of the city. So it'll be really
interesting to see what they come up with here. And
I'm looking forward to the news conference if they do
that this week, eager to see what they have for plans,
where they're going to lay this out when they're gonna
run it. We talked about it last week. I think
that would be something you would fit in the early
part of the season. So if they've been doing a

(07:13):
lot of work on this and they have this thing
all planned out and they're gonna lay it lay it
out for us in July, maybe you could see this
race as early as next March. I don't know that
would make the most sense because I don't think you
want to run it in the middle summer because it's
pretty warm down there this time of year.

Speaker 2 (07:25):
And will they ever come back to road America. We
saw the clip with Kenny Wallace talking with Mark Martin
about that, and it seems like it's a no brainer
to most people, but it's not really seeming to be
on the radar for NASCAR to go back to Road America.

Speaker 3 (07:38):
They were talking about sustainability. You want something that you
can make work every year. They had it here on
the fourth of July gright. It was a holiday weekend.
I get to get to work through some logistics with that.
But people like to camp and they like to hang out,
and it looked like you had some kind of our
tradition started here. But then, oh, it wasn't a permanent deal.
That was only supposed to be a replacement until we
got to the street race. So we move from that.

(08:01):
The pieces are there to do it, but again, you
got to work with everybody, and that includes NASCAR too.
They got to come and work with the tracks, and
you got to make it work for everybody. If you
could make something happen where everybody comes out on top
of this deal that is happy with it, we could
do it. I don't know right now, the way the
current situation is, I don't know if they'll work with
tracks as well. As they should yep.

Speaker 4 (08:21):
And NASCAR likes to have complete control over their facilities.
Either have SMI or you have their tracks, and then
you have the outliers, which are Pocono in Indianapolis, Echo Park,
Grand Prix down in Coda that they rent and SMI
rents that from them. So Road America is its own entity.
They got their own border directors you got to deal with.
They got their own way of doing business. And if
NASCAR's going to come in, they're going to be a

(08:43):
guest and that makes it difficult for them because they're
not used to being guests. They're used to being the hosts,
and that makes it really challenging for all the business
ends of it where they do business differently than NASCAR does.
You know, we had two really successful years of it,
but it isn't the way NASCAR always likes to do business.
And for them to change their entire thing, the people

(09:06):
at Road America are like, they're welcome to come here,
but we're gonna do things kind of this way, so
we'll see.

Speaker 2 (09:11):
I think I'm not a business person necessarily, but I
do have a business mind, and I know it costs
more money to get new customers than to retain the
customers you have, in which case doing something that road
America makes way more sense. But whatever, we're going to
take a break. We come back, we'll chat some more

(09:32):
about racing. And this is the LTN Hour.

fair to the timeline here because we were looking for
the next Georgia for how long. Well we're still looking

Welcome back to the LTN. I want to thank Chimney
Mechanics for being on board as one of our supporters
this year. If you have not scheduled your yearly inspection
for your chimney yet, you can do that by heading
over to their website Chimney Mechanics with an X dot com.
Doesn't matter what kind of a fireplace you have, it's
definitely worthwhile to get it checked out. A long about

(12:39):
the fall and winter time is when we start to
hear about those terrible house fires. If you take care
of it, they will they will prevent you from having
a catastrophe, including certified rent dryer vent sweeping. A lot
of dryer fires can happen to this time of year.
So Chimney Mechanics with an X dot com. And if
you mentioned LTN, you'll get twenty five dollars off, but

(13:03):
that's only good through this month. So Chimney Mechanics with
an X dot Com. So lawsuits abound and seems almost
like this is a game of chicken continuing with NASCAR
and the twenty three eleven team, and it's kind of
an effort to see who has to pull their pants
down further. Where are things at? In your mind?

Speaker 4 (13:25):
Dan?

Speaker 2 (13:25):
Everybody keeps seeing Danny Hammon putting in December first out there.
That's a pretty important date for the lawsuit.

Speaker 3 (13:31):
That's the date of the trial. That's when everything's supposed
to come to head. If they get to that point
and we lay everything out and everything gets put out
in open court and we can see everybody's books and everything.
That's kind of what they're banking on. I guess because
this week what they were denied. They tried to get
a restraining order to be able to still compete as
charter teams, and they got denied all that. I think
one of the major things the judge said in there

(13:51):
was the harm you're trying to show really isn't there
for the next two races, because like today at Dover
and next week at Indianapolis, they're gonna have to run
as open teams without a charter. They really don't have
a full field there. So the threat of not qualifying
for that race really isn't there now, he said, said
that change that might change is reasoning on that. So
sold a bunch of carson. They show up Indianapolis and
suddenly they have to qualify the way in that might

(14:14):
change the way that goes. They're not winning on that
right now. I mean looks like right now an askar,
NASCAR's kind of got the upper hand of this thing,
is what it looks like. I think they're trying to
pull it out all the way to go to December,
to push everybody in the court and open up everybody's books,
such as all everybody wants to see, and you get
to that point, say you do it, Okay, we got
we get to this trial date and it hits there
and everything's out therebody sees everything they're involved in, and

(14:34):
everything the teams are involved in, and a lot of stuff, Poppa,
they didn't really want out there. What happens then? Okay,
if you win this deal and you're all done, say
they win the lawsuit, what goes on from there? What
do we do? We still race? Does this? NASCAR say, Okay,
you know I'm done racing? You want to do it?
Half we have had? We have to start over from scratch.
What what's the end game there? I don't understand what?

Speaker 4 (14:57):
And that was that was the money line from Denny
Hamlin this week. You know, if they asked him in
the press conference and what are your thoughts on an
open team? Are you worried about Tyler Redick being lured
away from another team? And he said, I don't have
any direct comments on that. All I can tell you
is that this will be my blanket answer to all
the questions about this. If you want answers and you
want to understand all of why this is happening, come
December first you will get all the answers that you

(15:18):
are looking for and all of it will be exposed.
And he was very like confident in that statement I saw.
I saw the part of the press conference, and it's like,
you know, people tried to have follow up questions and
he and he just kept saying, you know, someone says,
have you talked about running open cars and what that
would mean if forty one cars show up? He goes,
December first is all that matters? Mark your calendars. So

(15:38):
he's confident that come December first, this is this is
going to be all laid out there and they're going
to be you know, they're they're going to look like
the good guys in this. But like you said, now,
what's the endgame in this? You know what, what how
do you win?

Speaker 2 (15:51):
Well, let's be honest, he was. He'll be swaggering with
that regardless because this is the plot that they've chosen.
So they're going to have to continue, need to stick
and adhere to that. So yeah, he's gonna have unwavering
confidence on that.

Speaker 4 (16:06):
And I also noticed very unlike Denny Hamlin. You watched
the Infinity Risk yesterday, he was in the booth with
those guys doing the race, and it's like Denny Hamlin
never does any of that extra stuff, So is he
like trying to get his face out there so people
hear more of him. I mean, he was always a
kind of a guy that he would dodge that. Yeah,
he wouldn't do the extra stuff. He wouldn't come. And
even when they did the Driver's Only broadcast, he was

(16:28):
never a part of those. He was never that.

Speaker 3 (16:29):
But all of a.

Speaker 4 (16:30):
Sudden he turned yesterday doing the Exfinity ret and.

Speaker 3 (16:33):
He did a great job.

Speaker 4 (16:34):
I mean he was I thought he did really well,
but it was just very surprising to see him.

Speaker 2 (16:38):
Probably needs some money because as a non chartered team,
they're not getting as much.

Speaker 1 (16:43):
Right.

Speaker 3 (16:44):
You probably saw that million dollar check that Joey Logano
got for promoting the sport, remember the yeah.

Speaker 4 (16:49):
Right right, right right?

Speaker 2 (16:52):
So basically he's a whore.

Speaker 4 (16:54):
Yeah, I just I just don't know where where he
thinks he's how they're going to come out ahead when
this is all done, because this is still NASCAR Series,
it's still their rules. You know, they run it and
there's a lot of stuff I disagree with what they
do as well. But how do you think you're going
to win this? I guess is the ultimate question? And
he won't even answer that.

Speaker 2 (17:13):
Do you think that that's mostly driven because Michael Jordan's involved,
and Jordan brings that NBA mindset to NASCAR, which is
not apples to apples.

Speaker 3 (17:24):
Yeah, and plus Jordan's got the kind of the cloud
to go up against nobody else will be able to
last as long, I don't think right, right, And if so,
there's a lot of opinion turning that way. You you
could probably take the mob mentality type thing, the social
media type stuff and say, Okay, we can really make
NASCAR look really bad. Okay, well so you do.

Speaker 2 (17:44):
What's the point?

Speaker 3 (17:45):
How does it benefit everybody in the end? And now
you just kind of beat everything down. And I still
like that Judge is common about how you guys are
trying real hard to burn down the roof over your heads.
That's out.

Speaker 2 (17:55):
Yeah, because even if NASCAR ends up having to shell
out money, they're going to find a way to get
their blood back.

Speaker 4 (18:04):
The ultimate end game for this is we get to Phoenix,
Denny Hamlin's in the final four and he finds a
way to actually get it done and win his first
title as an uncharted team. Oh wow, two or three
weeks later is this trial? How does that look? In
the Oh my god, Redick's not running. Redick's not running
good enough this year. I mean last year we thought
he would have a pretty good shot at it, and

(18:25):
he was in the final four and stuff. But that
team just isn't running that good this year. But Hamlin's
been pretty much on point this year. And if this
type of stuff really gets him sharp and really gets
him on his game, because it doesn't seem to affect
him when it comes to the racing, he's really good
on that. To see him, and I'm not a huge
Denny Hamlin fan, but to see him win the title
over that, I'll be cheering for him. If that would
be the way this would end, I'd.

Speaker 2 (18:46):
Buy the book. It's interesting what you just said though, too.
I mean, it makes you wonder if perhaps some of
the team, like Redick's team, is maybe feeling some of
the pressure, some of the fear about what's going on,
and that's kind of distracting them from being able to
put their best foot forward, whereas with Denny and his team,
they're using it as fuel to perform better. Maybe.

Speaker 3 (19:07):
I think they had such a good year last year
in the regular season and they got into the final four,
but at Phoenix they looked very overmatched. I just thought
that they were getting way over their heads and it
seemed like almost like they're way over matches. How I
put it, it was that they just didn't have to
come together step up when it mattered there and ever
since then, they've kind of been kind of shaky. So
I don't know if that just that experience of going

(19:27):
for the Final four and not performing that well, if
that kind of shook of the confidence, plus this whole
lawsuit stuff. I kind of wonder, because I think that
team is a lot better than what they've been showing.

Speaker 4 (19:36):
And Bubba has been struggling mightily too. I mean he is.
He hasn't been nearly as good as he usually is either,
which is very disappointing for him. And he's been making
weird mistakes like he did at Chicago where he coughs
up a bunch of points, and you know, he might
not even make the playoffs at this rate.

Speaker 2 (19:52):
As the stomach turns, we'll be back after this break.

This is the Herd. Wow Wow, Wow wow wow with
Colin Cowherd.

Speaker 5 (22:33):
He now is eligible for three hundred and eighty million
dollars with the new CBA, and I would have no
problem writing that chet. Unlike Luca, I don't question his fitness.
I like Donovan Mitchell, I don't think he elevates teammates
quite as much as SGA does.

Speaker 12 (22:50):
This is the Herd. The Herd with Colin Cowber weekdays
at eleven on Fox Sports nine.

Speaker 2 (23:00):
Welcome back to the LTN Hour. Todd Bailen on holiday,
he is actually still over in Europe. He does report
that the CW only offered Exfinity coverage with no announcers
over in Europe. Not sure if that was just because
of a language barrier or nobody wanted to hear the
talking heads. I don't know, but if you'd like to
participate in the show today, you can give us a call.

(23:21):
Four one four four two one seventy nine oh one
is the number. And boys, today we are racing at
dover Qualifying and cut practice was rained out. So with
the NASCAR metrics setup, it's going to be a pair
of chases on the front row, Chase Elliott and Chase Brisco,
both of which seemed to be kind of on an

(23:43):
upward swing. Guys.

Speaker 4 (23:45):
Yeah, it's gonna be interesting to see them. You know,
they haven't been on ovals now since Atlanta, which was
a kind of a restricted play track. So you're going
all the way back to Poconol since the last kind
of traditional type of race, and I would't even call
Pokonol a traditional track. So it'll be interesting to see
how this how this all plays out for these guys.
When you're going out there cold turkey, no practice, no qualifying,
no nothing. As I said before, you got SVG way

(24:06):
up there starting in six. You know, will he be
able to keep his head above water and then have
a good run. And then you got you know, some
of these guys that are stuck in the back whost
of ours starting thirty third, Ryan Blaney's starting thirty first,
Kyle Larson, who's really good there starting twenty fifth. There
could be a lot of comers and goers today. This
could be a very entertaining beginning of this race to
see where everybody plays out.

Speaker 3 (24:28):
Yeah, I think it'll be a good deal to watch too.
Like you said, Dover is kind of different. I mean
it's it's a fast mile and it's kind of tight,
isn't it in the corners. I mean, you're in the
corners so much here that it seems like a lot
of the time is made there as far as if
you're going to, you know, make ground on somebody, so
you kind of have to plan your pass in the
middle of the corner and maybe get him coming off

(24:48):
and get him on to pass them on the straight
away kind of things. So those guys in the back
of the field, it's gonna be kind of hard to
think to get through traffic here without really moving somebody.

Speaker 2 (24:58):
It is a tough track to get I particularly particularly
enjoy the trophy for this race though with Miles the Monster.

Speaker 4 (25:06):
Yes, yeah, that's that's what it is. A lot of
guys say, you know, it's it's like a it's a
several story drop from when you're running on the back
straight away or the front straight away and you drop
down into the corners. I think it's like they said,
three stories, So it's it has that roller coaster type
feel to it. So, I know a lot of the
Exfinity guys, the first time they go out there, it
kind of almost freaks them out a little bit, even

(25:27):
the ARCA guys. So but you don't really don't have
that in the Cup series because these guys are all
fairly experienced. But I don't know, I'd be a little
I'd be a little nervous going out there with no
practice at all. I know they got a lot of
sim and all that type of stuff they have now,
but still, of all the tracks to go to where
you don't get any practice, this one would have me
a little on edge.

Speaker 2 (25:45):
I think, how do you think that will impact SVG?

Speaker 3 (25:49):
I don't know that.

Speaker 4 (25:50):
I mean, that's that's I guess that's the biggest thing
I'm most interested to see at the beginning of this
is to see how he how he does there without
without any of that practice and getting to start way
up in the front, because I mean, we all just
assume if they were qualifying, he'd probably be mired back
and you know, probably outside the top twenty five. That
seems to be where he's qualified all year on the ovals.
But to get that type of a spot, you know,

(26:11):
can he hang William Byron's next to him. Can he
hang with those guys? Will he be able to stay
up there? I think that's an interesting storyline to see
for the start of this race.

Speaker 3 (26:19):
Laps and then put in the track.

Speaker 13 (26:21):
Not a lot.

Speaker 3 (26:21):
I mean they got the Xinity race till about one
hundred and thirty five laps of the two hundred before
they had to call it because of the rain. So
there's not a lot like laid down is it rubber wise?

Speaker 4 (26:30):
Either isn't, No, there isn't and then that concrete that
it disappears quickly too, So unlike the blacktop where the
rubber can stay on there and survive you know, some rain.
I mean even even on a normal day when you
don't have the rain, A lot of times the sweepers
go out there and able to pull that rubber right off.
So track's going to be very green when they go
when they go out there today, well, we'll.

Speaker 2 (26:50):
Be making our picks here towards the end of the program.
Looks like Todd Dayling already is picking Ryan Blainey.

Speaker 4 (26:56):
From the back from thirty first.

Speaker 2 (26:58):
It's my guy that I normally pick, and now he
picks them.

Speaker 4 (27:01):
What the heck?

Speaker 2 (27:03):
How does that work.

Speaker 4 (27:04):
Oh, we can just veto you can avoid his pick
because he's not in the country for sure.

Speaker 2 (27:10):
For sure. So with the race at Dover, we're in
the playoff picture, it's still kind of the same with
who's on the bubble there.

Speaker 4 (27:20):
Brian, Yeah, yeah, it is very much. So I got
to bring up my points standing said, I didn't have
him quite in front of me.

Speaker 3 (27:26):
Going on for the cutoffs. I mean, it's getting down there,
and there's still a few guys that haven't won yet
that maybe could pull something off. I don't know today.
I'm thinking guys that are are out of the Kyle Busch,
for example, don't they have I'm sure they were running
good enough to win yet, but you never know. With him,
they could pull something out. But guys like that, there's
a couple of guys that are far back that are

(27:47):
going to need to win to make the playoffs, and
places like this on an oval might be the way
to do it.

Speaker 2 (27:53):
And they're running a tire compound that was specifically designed
for Dover, not going to be used at any other
track this season too. So it seems like there's a
whole lot of elements that prevent or contribute to the
unknown for today's race.

Speaker 3 (28:05):
I think you're looking at is it the Priests and
Bubba Wallace and those of the two that are on
the cut off right now there's like three points but
just between.

Speaker 4 (28:13):
Yeah, yep, yes, yep.

Speaker 2 (28:16):
So we shall see how that all breaks down there
as well too. That's a little frightening perhaps for some.
I don't know if Bubble can rise to the challenge
or Ryan Priest. But like you said, Kyle Busch is
right there too. He's thirty seven back. But you have
a good day that can that can change a lot
of things.

Speaker 4 (28:34):
And if there's a place he's going to have a
good day, he would think this would be it. He's
got several wins here and he could he could be
strong at a place like this.

Speaker 14 (28:42):
You know.

Speaker 4 (28:42):
Whostovar is another one. He's starting weigh in the back,
but on the Ovals this year he's been he's been
really good. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (28:48):
That tank of his can certainly get where it needs
to go.

Speaker 4 (28:50):
Yeah, and he's gonna need it today, So we'll see
if he's able to, you know, be on the horn
all day and get himself to the front. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (28:58):
By the way, Jostavar is going to be running the
Red Bud this coming week on Saturday. We might be
talking with somebody here shortly about the Red Bud. We'll see,
but you boys are planning on taking a trip over
there too.

Speaker 4 (29:13):
Yeah, I've never been to the Anderson Speedway before. And uh,
actually the Stars Tour has been off since the Slinger race.
Can you believe that that was on Faursday weekend? So
we're talking like almost a month and a half since
they last race. In a very similar track to Slinger
going to the Red Bud the little you know rock
them socc them robotes type racing. Their Dan's been there
once for the you went to the little five hundred
there once, correct, a little.

Speaker 3 (29:34):
Five hundred which silver coon cars and they've started three
wide and that was pretty crazy. I was there for
any five hundred weekend. That's kind of funny story. I
was there with Mike Christoph whose name was John White,
he's the traffic guy in the radio, and Lance all
and our friend from TV and I were there and
we were talking to some of the fans that were
around and h they said, well, obviously could tell we

(29:55):
weren't from around there, like no from Milwaukee. And Lance
was talking to me. He's that. Actually, we kind of
work in the media and one of us does the
radio show, one does the traffic report, and one of
us is on TV and he looks at us and
he is, I know what. One of you all's on TV.

Speaker 2 (30:12):

Welcome back to the LTN Hour. Joining us now as
a gain special guest the GM of Anderson's Speedway, which
is set to host the Red Bud once again this
coming weekend on Saturday. Mister Jared Owen.

Speaker 13 (33:10):
Hey Jared, are you guys doing this morning?

Speaker 2 (33:13):
We are doing very well, of course, your race. It's
like one of the longest running short track race events
in the history of this nation. I think this is
what's going to be the fifty ninth running of the
Red Bud four hundred this weekend.

Speaker 13 (33:27):
Sure is. It's pretty incredible when you think about it.
We were of the proven the final T shirt designs
this past week and looking at all the former winners
and going back to nineteen sixty seven, so pretty cool.

Speaker 3 (33:38):
It is cool.

Speaker 2 (33:39):
Are you putting all the winners on the back of
the shirt? I love when people do that.

Speaker 13 (33:42):
Yeah, we sure are. So we have a we have
two different versions, so we have I would say the
more typical race version, I mean what we see in racing,
and we have an old nineteen eighties or nineteen seventies
style Mark Martin Asa car in the front of it
and all the former winners on the back. So it's
a really cool kind of throwback winners T shirt this year.

Speaker 4 (34:02):
Nice.

Speaker 2 (34:02):
Yeah, Martin won that thing what four times now?

Speaker 4 (34:06):
That was thank you?

Speaker 13 (34:07):
I think four or five. Him and Johnny Van Dorn
are tied for the most wins ever in the Red Bud,
so their names are on there a lot. But yeah,
it's cool. Mark Martin is pretty active on social media
and all the just here. A couple of weeks ago,
he posted a picture of his first win at the
Red budd at Anderson and he I think his comment
was that one of the biggest wins of his life
because it really helped set the trajectory to NASCAR.

Speaker 4 (34:31):
For him for sure.

Speaker 2 (34:32):
And there there are a lot of NASCAR ties with that.
You're going to have Carson host of Ar in the field,
You're going to have Ross Chastain on hand as well too.
Talk a little bit about getting those guys to come.

Speaker 13 (34:44):
Absolutely, and it's pretty cool. It's some brickyard weekend in Indianapolis.
So the Anderson Speedway is located just forty five minutes
northeast of Indianapolis, so a little right about fifty fifty
five minutes to an hour away fro nample Smare Speedway.
So I'm cool to kind of have our big stock
car racist in weekend as a brickyard. And we were

(35:06):
lucky enough with the team at Van Dorn Racing and
Van Meters to be able to have a second car
to put Carson posts of our ends. So Carson won
the race a couple of years ago. And I mean
everybody knows him now and the Cup Series and the
waves he's making and we're excited to have him back.
And then Rosh Chesting we were hoping might race, but

(35:27):
has some other sponsorship commitments, but he's still going to
come and be the Grand Marshal and we're excited to
have him.

Speaker 4 (35:32):
So was it always in the plans to, like when
the schedule was put out to have a Brickyard weekend?
I mean, I've been to the Brickyard several times over
the years, and I don't ever really remember having an
event during that weekend or was it by coincidence or
did the SA Stars two were kind of planned to
have it the same weekend as the Brickyard.

Speaker 13 (35:48):
Yeah, it's bounced around a lot over the past. I've
worked at the track for eleven years and it's kind
of it was weekdays and we kind of went away
from the Brickyard and we've come back with kind of
the goal. Our goal was to try to entice a
couple of NASCAR guys to come, So that was kind
of strategic in our part. That's what we wanted to do.
And a lot of it now is before was we

(36:11):
didn't have it that we didn't have cars that were
that the guys could run, and we've kind of solved
that problem work with teams, and the teams are really
been really gracious to work through that with us. But
they have a lot of sponsorship commitments, especially Saturday night
to night before the race, so trying to work through
those because at the end of the day, that's their
full time job. They're just doing this for fun and
coming out and support and short track racing. So definitely

(36:35):
the goal and kind of working at the cool weekend.
We saw someone post or made a comment to us
that their ample's Rashley Park, which is pretty quick amplusmor
Speedway is going to have the RG race and truck
race Friday, and they're going to come to Anderson for
the Red Buat on Saturday and go their brickyard on Sunday,
So kind of a full weekend for people for big
time race fans.

Speaker 4 (36:55):
Yep, that's exactly what Dan and I are doing. This
would be my first trip to Anderson, I'd never been
there before. Dan's there once before for the for the
Little five hundred. But talk a little bit about your
schedule there. Saturday, you have an hour of practice Saturday afternoon,
there's an on track autograph session and then the Red
Bud goes green at seven thirty.

Speaker 13 (37:12):
That's correct, yep, so four hundred laps. We just have
one division that day. So it looks it looks real strong.
When we talked with the ASA National Tour last week,
it looks like they're right at twenty cars, maybe twenty one.
So they put their schedule. They'll put out the official
entry list tomorrow early early afternoon evening. Monday's kind of

(37:33):
they're traditional to put that out. So but it sounds
like the big hitters that we've expected and are coming.
I mean the Bubba Pollards, the Steven Nasty's, those types
of drivers, and then more local drivers like Dakota Armstrong
and Billy vand Meter are all racing. So that's exciting
for both local drivers and then people that fall latem
mile racing over this country.

Speaker 3 (37:54):
Yeah, I think it'd be a pretty good event. Now,
if people have ever been to Anderson before, we're familiar
with Sluinger Sweetway up here, the high bank quarter mile level.
Anderson's kind of the same kind of concept. I mean
it's high bank and it's fast. At the time I
was there, it was pretty interesting to see and at
close quarters racing, I think you have a pretty good show.
I think we should. The Stars Tour put on a
really good show at slinger earlier in the year. I
think we'll see a lot of the same here at Anderson.

Speaker 13 (38:17):
Yeah, very very similar tracks. I mean Slingers banked definitely
bank more. It's it's the fastest quarter mile. We used
to have it. They fully have it. I'm iming going
to challenge it. Great great facility up there, but very
similar racing. I mean definitely a two group racetrack. You're
going to have to get up on the outside and
pass if you're going to win this race. And what
we saw a year, I mean the last couple of years,

(38:39):
the field has gotten so competitive and so close that
it really comes down. I mean a court of lap
race is a long race for these teams. I mean
they're kind of getting to the part of the season
where then they go to Winchester and run corner laps
on the big half mile there and then go down
to Nashville. I think it's a two hundred or three
in lap race, so kind of starting to link to

(39:00):
them out and there's definitely a point in this race
where you have to ride, you got to stave your
equipment to be there for the last one hundred laps
fifty laps, so you'll see that, and then these guys
come alive and they'll definitely be beaten and banging, and
it's definitely close quarters racing. So we're we're definitely excited
for it.

Speaker 2 (39:19):
What's the best way to get tickets, Jared? Are you
doing reserve seats this year or what do you have
going on there?

Speaker 13 (39:24):
Yeah, it's a general mission seating. So but if you
do purchase your tickets before race day, you say five
dollars for adult tickets, so they're twenty dollars in advanced
twenty five on race day and those can be purchased
at Andersonspeedway dot com or you can call our ticket
office or come by the track Monday through Friday from
ten Ay into four pm next Friday. So we have

(39:45):
they have an optional open or practice. I think it
goes until five thirty six. We'll be open selling tickets
in the office until the conclusion of practice.

Speaker 2 (39:54):
So all right, well, good luck. We look forward to
seeing a great red Bud four hundred next Saturday, July
twenty six, at Anderson's Speedway. Thanks so much Jared for
joining us.

Speaker 13 (40:04):

dollars to win. That went to Rico Abrew and that
race was marred by a bad wreck for Aaron Reitzel
where he evidently broke his foot. We don't know which one,
but he will be out of commission for a while.
So that's two of the top guys from the High
Limits series was taken out. We're not done yet. Last
night at Plymouth. We had a rain out right after

short during due to rain. And finally the big one
at Aldra for the World of Outlaws sprint cars, the
forty second annual Kings Royal two hundred thousand dollars to win.
Nobody from the High Limit Series and nobody from the
Outlaws won it. It was a privateer guy Anthony Macray
from the Pennsylvania Posse, led all forty laps to pick

(47:38):
up the two hundred thousand dollars grand prize. Unfortunately, that
race was also marred by a bad wreck for Brad
Sweet in one of the heat races. He was taken
off on a stretcher. They said he will be making
a full recovery too, but it was a rough, rough
week for sprint car racing at Aldor and our thoughts
go to all those drivers and hopefully they have full
recoveries and we see him back in action before too long.

(47:58):
That is everything for this week, no kidding ouch.

Speaker 2 (48:02):

Speaker 2 (54:43):
Welcome back to lt N Pod bailing on vacation. So
it's just PJ. Newtleman, Brian Schmidt, and Dan Margetta, our
legal analyst, Daniel. We kind of talked a little bit
about the twenty three eleven lawsuit with NASCAR, but there
is some other lawsuit action going on. I'm with Rickwear
Racing Legacy, Uh, chat a little bit about that and

(55:04):
kind of get everybody up to date with where things
are with that one.

Speaker 3 (55:06):
Yeah, we didn't have enough lawsuit to talk about. There's
another one has always been out there. I remember back
Rickwaar Racing apparently had an agreement with Legacy to sell
them a charter for next year, which kind of then
didn't didn't happen or they kind of went back on it.
So Legacy was gonna sue Rickworld Racing. Well, in the meantime,
A TJ. Is it Pulture, Uh, the guy that kind
of put the deal together said he's gonna come buy

(55:28):
Rickware Racing and get all three charters and uh and
get another one and have his own team. Well, now
Legacy got mad about that and said, well, you can't
do that. You you were consulting with us to get
this other charter. We're gonna sue you say, you can't
buy that, So I mean that's another one that's just
murky and and what a mess, you know.

Speaker 2 (55:46):
Yeah, big mess. And uh it's it seems like anytime
money's involved, that's when things get ugly, right.

Speaker 3 (55:53):
It's all over these charters and what they're supposedly worth.
And they're worth all this money, but in the end
they're not permanent yet away, you know. I think that's
kind of what this whole other lossits about.

Speaker 16 (56:04):
It.

Speaker 3 (56:04):
They're trying to get permanent charters in the end, and
I don't know how you're gonna accomplish that where they're
going now exactly.

Speaker 2 (56:10):
I would agree with that Nascar, I.

Speaker 4 (56:12):
Had to do it all over again. Would they like
not even worry about this charter thing now that you
look back at it, I mean, what about Oh I bet.

Speaker 2 (56:17):
They regret it. I bet they regret doing it. And
that was them trying to be something that they're not.
And that's that's right. There is a lesson kids, be
off your your authentic self instead of trying to be
something you're not. You're not going to have success when
you aren't.

Speaker 4 (56:34):
And it's what Cart did back in the day, and
it kind of ruined IndyCar racing, you know, for a
for a long time, and we just they always say
those who forget to pass are doomed to repeat it.
And that's what we're seeing here, you know, same thing
on the on the high limit side they're supposed to do.
They want to do charters for the sprint car racing
over there. Well, after seeing all this, I hope Brad
and Kyle put their heads together and go, maybe we
shouldn't do this. Yeah, just go there race. If you're good,

(56:57):
you're gonna race. If you suck, you're gonna go home.

Speaker 2 (56:59):
No, that isn't that the way it used to be anyway, Well,
Dover is today, Todd Bailey and already chiming in from
overseas with his pick. He's going with my guy Ryan Blaney. So, uh, Brian,
who you gonna go with?

Speaker 4 (57:14):
I'm gonna go with Chris Busher because, uh, you know,
we need to spice this up and get a couple
more winners here before this is over, so that we
have these sixteen winners going to the playoffs. So it's
wide open. He's got a twelfth place sparting spot. He's
been running pretty good lately, so I'm going with him, all.

Speaker 2 (57:28):
Right, Dan, who you got for dover?

Speaker 3 (57:32):
What's Chase is going to be the one to go.
I'm going to Chase Elliott, all right.

Speaker 2 (57:36):
And then since Todd took Ryan Blaney, I don't want
to take the same thing, So I'm gonna go with
Denny Hamlin just to shake things up and have him
be a little cocky again againicy post race press conference, right, yeah,
all he will be saying is December first, this is true,
that guy's been running really well.

Speaker 4 (57:57):
What do you attribute that to? Guys finally getting in
a in a Gibbs car?

Speaker 3 (58:01):
You know, accommitted with the team and a lot of it.

Speaker 4 (58:04):
Right.

Speaker 3 (58:05):
The car we knew was good because TRUEX did's a
well with it and then it's a decent team. But
you got to know the driver got a no personality.
He's gotta be able to work with everybody and kind
of speak the same language. And they're kind of on
the same page.

Speaker 16 (58:14):
Now.

Speaker 4 (58:15):
It took them a little while to get it together
because i mean, let's face it, you don't have a
lot of practice time. So really, you know, we only
got twenty five minutes. It doesn't give you a lot
of time to go back and forth with your crew
and work on it. And now that we're halfway through
the season or past that, he's had that now and
James Small knows how to you know, articulate what Chase
is telling them, and now they're looking really good, you

(58:36):
know if.

Speaker 2 (58:36):
And not that I want to sit and talk about
my husband, but here we are. This is very similar
even to Ty and Toby, because they've been kind of
sputtering a little bit this season and then they finally
started spending more time in person together and now they've
been knocking off wins. So I guess there is something
to be said for that driver.

Speaker 4 (58:52):
I'm going to get one on Friday. Dan and I
are hopefully there to see it.

Speaker 2 (58:55):
I hope so too. Get him to punch his ticket
into the truck play. That would be awesome. Well, thanks
