Speaker 1 (00:09):
The lt ed Hour.

Speaker 2 (00:10):
Let's Talk Nascar with your host Todd Bayling, co hosts
Brian Schmidt, PJ Newtleman, and producer Dangerous Dan Margetta. Call
the show anytime at four one, four four two one
seventy nine oh one. And now the creator and host
of the fastest hour in radio, Todd.

Speaker 1 (00:33):
Bailing, Hey, thanks for joining us. Good Bailing in beautiful
Linden Station, Wisconsin, joined by my three partners spread out
over the state of Wisconsin, starting with Brian Schmidt over
in Utsburg, Wisconsin.

Speaker 3 (00:50):
Hi, Brian, good morning, Ready to go racing in Nashville.
A rare Sunday night race. Yeah, non holiday weekend. Kind
of weird, it is it is, but it's it's cool.
I like it.

Speaker 1 (01:01):
PJ Noodleman of Trimpleo, USA on the other side of
the state. Hi, wait a minute, is she there? I
am here? Sorry.

Speaker 4 (01:12):
I love Nashville. I almost moved there years ago, but
then I ended up getting married and stayed here. But
it's a great town and it's going to be a
great race tonight too, you would hope.

Speaker 1 (01:21):
And on our own. Dan Margetta from Saint Francis, Wisconsin,
who's no re all operator of cameras and a guy
that runs around in this state like a maniac in
the summer.

Speaker 5 (01:33):
High I'm good. I'm good to be here. And yeah,
I like Nashville too. It was a fun town at
the time I went there and visited. It'd be kind
of a cool race to go to. I think I
think they running at night because of the temperatures that
we come up with that it usually gets hot there,
although it's not that. Yeah it's here, but normally it
can't get scorching hot there, and people like running at night.

Speaker 1 (01:51):
The it is eighties down there today, not terrible. It
sounds okay to me. U. There is a sixty percent
chance of rain before, which isn't all that terrible when
you consider it goes to twenty percent after six and
the green flag supposed to be at six nineteen. It
will be televised on Amazon Prime. Now I have to

(02:12):
admit I'm admitting something here. I was at Slinger last
week in the stands, watching in the stands, and I
did not see.

Speaker 6 (02:19):
The Coca Cola six hundred.

Speaker 1 (02:22):
But everything I have read was incredibly positive about the
Amazon Prime coverage. Now, two of the four of us
actually did watch the event. What did you think of
Amazon Primes coverage. Let's let's go to PJ first.

Speaker 4 (02:38):
I thought it was really good. I kind of like
the people that they have on there. It was crisp,
I guess, for lack of a better word. There wasn't
a lot of bally hooing going on. But the other
thing I really like is they had more for the
post race and that's something I'd rather see more post
race than pre race. And it was nice to actually

(02:58):
be able to do that because they weren't beholden to
a network schedule.

Speaker 6 (03:03):
Yeah, exactly.

Speaker 3 (03:04):
And I saw Larry Mack was on I think it
was when he was on Serious XM this week. There
are people talking about how great the coverage was, and
he kind of he's got to defend Fox because that's
what he works for, and he said, you can't compare
the two because Fox has to stick.

Speaker 6 (03:18):
To a network schedule.

Speaker 3 (03:20):
He goes and the thing about the streaming services they
don't have that Amazon could come on four hours before
the race and go four hours after if they wanted to,
because that's what they're allowed to do. So he says,
you can't. You know, people got to say, oh, you
can't do this. And you can't do that same with
the side by side. You know, they anytime they went
to a commercial, there was usually a side by side. Well,
that doesn't work on the network thing because the network,

(03:41):
you know, advertisers are paying that much more to have
their ad shown so that that's the only thing you see,
So we have to kind of separate those a little bit.
But I thought their coverage was outstanding. Having Carl Edwards
on there was cool.

Speaker 6 (03:52):
That was the best.

Speaker 3 (03:53):
It's cool to hear him say about how he disappeared
from the sport back in sixteen. You know, he came
back and he's so welcome by everybody. He was almost
like he was.

Speaker 6 (04:00):
He was surprised, you know that that it was so cool.

Speaker 3 (04:03):
He goes he woke up in his motorhome in the
infield and you know, it's people everywhere.

Speaker 6 (04:06):
And he seemed really refreshed.

Speaker 3 (04:08):
So, you know, be interesting to see if he wants
to expand beyond this five race thing and do more
of it.

Speaker 1 (04:14):
I think that's a key right there, Brian, Yeah, Or or.

Speaker 6 (04:17):
Does he want to drive again?

Speaker 3 (04:18):
I mean he's not that old, you know, but he
seemed really refreshed and we'll just see how this goes
over the next five weeks for sure.

Speaker 1 (04:25):
My guess is that it's going to lead to more
broadcasting and why not. And in fact, this five race
deal is right in his wheelhouse. He doesn't have He's
still a part of the sport. He doesn't have to
to discipline his entire life around NASCAR. I think that
was as big of a deal as anything is. You

(04:47):
have to commit so much and with the crushing, the
crushing disappointments he had to deal with and the frustrations,
and he thought, you know, I don't have to deal
with that anymore. I have enough money. My wife is
a doctor.

Speaker 6 (05:02):
I'm gonna quit.

Speaker 4 (05:03):
Well, he would have not a crushing schedule if he
decided to stay in the commentary booth, no matter where
he ended up going, because nobody has the full season.

Speaker 1 (05:14):
That is true, isn't it. And I think all those guys,
I think there's a there's a real positive to all
of that because you get to have, you know, half
of your life. The rest of them sit around and
wait for their turn on television. Last week, as is
not a surprise, the Indianapolis five hundred killed in the

(05:37):
ratings on Fox. They had seven million viewers, which is
a great number and as it should be, the most
prestigious sporting event in the world of motorsports that there
is on this earth. But it's interesting the little battle
for second place. Formula one on ABC had two point
three million and coming in third third place the Coca

(06:01):
Cola six hundred, almost the same number as Formula one
two point seven to two versus two point Excuse me,
I Scott, that did I write that down wrong?

Speaker 6 (06:13):
I did?

Speaker 1 (06:14):
They came in ahead of Formula One and they were
on Prime Network. Yes, that's that's unreal, isn't it. There
are that many people I have Prime. I wrote the
numbers down wrong. Good God. So NASCAR does come in second,
That's that's amazing to me.

Speaker 3 (06:32):
And I will say, for the first time in probably
several years, the NASCAR race outdid the other ones by
a long shot. I mean that Indy five hundred's probably
one of the more vanilla Indy five hundreds I've seen
in a while, especially with the two lap cars in
front of the leaders, which didn't allow for any of
the last lap heroics and passing. But the Cup race
had a pass with four laps to go, and of
course the Formula One race was lessing more than a parade.

(06:54):
So you know, for the first time in many years,
I'd say NASCAR was the winner of the Morra of
the weekend as far as their competition.

Speaker 1 (07:01):
And of course the most eyes were on one driver
who was attempting to do the double, and Kyle Larson
crashed out of both events, and he didn't sound real
positive about doing it again because of the fact it's
so difficult to do now. That was it was rain delayed, right,

(07:21):
I mean, there was no way he was going to
finish Indianapolis. He was going to have to get out
of the car, wasn't he right. I think what he's
talking about is just the timeframe right now. It went
just perfectly with no rain.

Speaker 5 (07:33):
It's still a tight window to do both of them,
and it's almost impossible, and everybody's kind of getting on
NASCAR's case. But that's IndyCar's problem there because IndyCar moved
that start time back of the Indy five hundred. I
remember when Stewart did it, and when Robbie Gordon and
those guys did it. They started an hour earlier at Indianapolis,
and just a couple of years ago they moved that
start time back, I think for TV reasons and well,
but that kind of made that window tight to get

(07:54):
from Indy to Charlotte's. I think, if you're gonna do it,
instead of having NASCAR delay their six hundred, how about
making IndyCars start there any five hundred where they used
to start it now earlier.

Speaker 1 (08:04):
Yeah, well, it looks like you're making the greatest sporting
event on Earth bow to NASCAR there for one guy.
I mean, it brings so many eyeballs on the sport
that that is the case. But boy, nobody wants to
you know. They all want to stand up and beat
their chest, and for good reason. You know, there's a
certain amount of pride that is in this sport. And

(08:27):
I can't imagine that either one wants to give an inch,
even though it would be so good for both sports,
you know, just to make it happen one way or
the other. But I guess we just we can't do that,
can We just can't all get along? The green Flag,
as I mentioned, will be at six nineteen Central time.

(08:49):
It's televised on Amazon Prime. If you don't have it,
you can get it for free. You have to have
Wi Fi in your house, and you have to have
it be able to watch it either on a laptop
or telephone or a television. There's ways of doing it.
It's not that hard. If I can do it, any
idiot can do it. I realized, Techno Todd. That's pretty

(09:11):
much how it works in this place. If you if
you didn't see it or hear about it. This week,
a competitor who has had spectacular success in the ASA
series and in Milwaukee, by the name of Mike Eddie,
seven time ASA champion, passed away at the age of

(09:32):
seventy two. Boy, that's scary and it's a profound loss
in the racing community. We are going to be able
to talk to Scott Hanson about what it was like
racing with Mike Eddie and dealing with Mike Eddie, and
Scott's on the road, and we'll be talking to us
when we come back. We're glad you're tuned in. As

When I was a teenage here and I wanted to
see the best stockha racing there was to see. I
would go to State Fair Park and I would see
the USEX stock cars. And then after for a while
they went away, and I was very crushed. But they
brought in this other group called ASA, and and well,
these guys are pretty good, And then I got to

(13:04):
really start appreciating how good they really were. But there
was there was good guys and there were bad guys,
which you like to see. As far as now that's
for me. There's guys that love bad guys. Apparently I
was not. I like to root for good guys, or
at least the ones that I judged were good. But

(13:24):
one of the bad guys to me was this Mike
Eddie guy. He was rough and tumble kind of guy.
He was a physical racer. He didn't mind getting into you.
He did whatever it took to pass to win, and
had really kissed me off. But boy, you get some
respect for a guy like that. And that's for sitting
in the stands. Imagine what it's like sitting in a

(13:46):
race car and racing against a guy like that. And
Scott Hansen, who was on the phone with us right
now from his car, did that several times, not just
in Milwaukee, but all over the country. And you had
kind of mixed success against Mike Eddie, didn't you.

Speaker 13 (14:02):
Mike was a great guy. You know, you talk rough
and tough and black cars and good wrench And who
was the other guy that seven time? That everybody kind
of knows that was the same way. You know, Ernhardt
popped in your mind seven times, well, and Esa seven
times Eddie popped in your mind. Put him on a

(14:25):
short track. My money would have been on Mike.

Speaker 1 (14:29):
Now, what was it like racing with that guy?

Speaker 6 (14:31):
Really?

Speaker 13 (14:33):
It was tough.

Speaker 6 (14:34):
It was very tough.

Speaker 13 (14:36):
One example was IRP. Mike was leading about forty laps
to go. I did get alongside of him and we
ran thirty laps side by side, never touched, but tough
comes into play. I knew I was not going to
win the tough battle, so I accidentally slid up a

(14:59):
little bit and moved him. And all my spotter could
say is, don't let him catch you. And I'll tell
you what. When the race was over, I won here
on second and on the podium Mike told me he says,
I've got a fairly good memory and I don't like

(15:21):
to forget. And I says, I suppose that pertains to today. Huh.
And I looked in the mirror a lot after that.

Speaker 1 (15:33):
I suppose, Oh, that's pretty good. So you did beat
him on occasion, right, Oh?

Speaker 13 (15:41):
Yeah, I think I won twenty five or twenty seven
of those races.

Speaker 14 (15:44):
And yeah, he was.

Speaker 13 (15:47):
He was always there on the flip side of Mike.
I was racing at Milwaukee, had a valve cover come
loose and the oil fumes got to becoming overwhelming, and
I saw Mike was out of the race. That I
said to one of my crew guys, go over and
see if he get in the car for us, And

(16:08):
they came back a few laps later and said, he's
standing here ready to go. We came in put him
in the car, got the oil league fixed, and he
drove the car to a third place finish for us.

Speaker 3 (16:21):
Who I mean, Mike Eddie talk about an old school guy,
you know, looking up some of the stuff. I mean,
back in the nineties, he was offered to drive the
seventy five car for you know, Raymack Racing. He was
later offered to drive the forty three for petty enterprises.
I mean a lot of people, Scott don't understand how
popular the ASA series was back then. That guy's passed
up NASCAR opportunities to stick in ASA crib.

Speaker 13 (16:48):
He was in my He was a hero to me,
No doubt he could. He could win on a big track,
short track. He just had talent. The thing about Mike,
he he was a due it himself kind of guy.
You know, look at an Alan Kouwick I guess would
be another. He ran the race from inside the car.

(17:11):
He prepared the car, he worked on it. He was
just an all around And I don't know if Mike
would had the patience to go down South and have
somebody tell him just show, shut up and drive.

Speaker 1 (17:24):
Oh yeah, that's tough for some guys. And like you said,
Kowiki's a good parallel there, because that's that's kind of
like why he didn't want to really go over to
Junior Johnson for a while there. He was given the opportunity,
but he wouldn't have had complete control like he did
by owning his own team. Not one of those kind

(17:45):
of guys. Isn't that interesting? Well? Talk about old school, right,
I mean, that's as old school as it gets it is.

Speaker 13 (17:52):
And you know, you if something happened to Mike, he
was the type of guy that you know, are broke
or something, you go over and you say you want
to fix it, Nope, kind of go home. I mean
he was as big added as they come. He was
there to win, and win was his number one.

Speaker 5 (18:12):
Deal and when he really did and as a fan
to me, he really had a resemblance to Earnhardt because
he kind of had that intimidating way about him and
just as a fan, I remember a Milwaukee one time
he crashed and practice and we rover by his pits
and everyone's kind of afraid to approach him because we
don't know how you'd be. But like Earnhardt, he actually

(18:33):
really wasn't like that in real life. It wasn't He's
actually a pretty good dude, but as a fan you
were just like kind of kind of scared of him.

Speaker 6 (18:39):
Intimidating.

Speaker 13 (18:41):
Yeah, if he liked you, he liked you, and you're
right if he didn't, you know, when you walked up,
he'd just kind of turn away and shrug you off.
And a lot of bud lights were shared between myself
and him, and just a lot of good times. He
had a lot of great guys on his crew, but
they were as tough as he was. You know, you

(19:03):
just dealt with what you had.

Speaker 4 (19:07):
Pat, what's one of the best stories while y'all were
drinking your bud lights together?

Speaker 13 (19:14):
You can't tell those on the radio, Sure you can, no.
I mean we would just we would talk about anything
and everything. We talk about other racers. Mike was not
bashful in saying I don't like that guy. I don't
like the way that guy does things. Mike Miller would

(19:38):
throw on huge parties when we would go. You just
had a group that would get together and I had
one of the biggest coolers in the circus and we
gathered around and I still have that cooler today and
think about a lot of that stuff every time I
opened it. It was it was just fun. We would

(19:59):
go to Canada with those guys, and Mike had his
following that interacted with all of it. Like I said,
if you guy in Mike's circle, it was a it
was a serious deal.

Speaker 1 (20:10):
Good to go. Well that's fantastic. Well Scott, thanks for
taking a couple of minutes on your U on your
road trip here to talk with us. And if you
never got a chance to see Mike Eddie race, it's
too bad because he was He was as tough as
they came. He was kind of like, uh, the Earnhardt
character only for us a right down to the seven

(20:32):
championships and for a while there he actually had a
black good Wrench car too, on the number eighty eight,
so I don't remember the green one myself. But thanks Scott,
we appreciate it.

Speaker 2 (20:45):
Good, Thank you guys.

Speaker 13 (20:46):
Have a great show as always.

Well, I love thinking Summerfest is right around the play
it's this month.

Speaker 6 (23:58):
How great is that? This is summer? When does it
warm up around here? Anyway? I suppose we'll be complaining
before you know it.

Speaker 1 (24:06):
There's several little tidbits going and a lot of things happening.
I love this part this time of year. It's wonderful.
First thing is Denny Hamlin is on Baby Watch his
Are they married, PJ? Do you know?

Speaker 4 (24:20):
I don't think they are. I think it's just a
what do they call.

Speaker 6 (24:25):
That, mutual agreement or arrangement.

Speaker 17 (24:28):
It's common law, common law down in Mexico. When you
were there, Dad, I thought it was.

Speaker 1 (24:32):
Oh, that's right, that's right, they are married.

Speaker 6 (24:35):
I think thought her last name is still Fish.

Speaker 4 (24:38):
Maybe she decided not to take his name because who
would want to give up the name Fish?

Speaker 1 (24:44):
January first, twenty four is when they got married. Yes,
you're right, it's the same day I got to Cobble
the same day they got married in Cobble. Funny funny.
I wasn't invited, but yes, I should have known that.
Then you would think either wait, uh, I think they
got a bunch of kids.

Speaker 6 (25:02):
Don't they. This is number three I believe coming.

Speaker 1 (25:04):
All right, Well, he said this is very important to him,
and he will get out of the car and turn
it over to Ryan Truex. Was Martin not available or uninterested?

Speaker 8 (25:18):
What?

Speaker 6 (25:19):
Ryan Truex is one of the Gibbs Infinity drivers.

Speaker 3 (25:22):
He's been driving for them off and on over the years,
so I would imagine he's the most experienced of those guys,
and that's probably why they put him in there.

Speaker 6 (25:31):
Plus he's got some cup experience.

Speaker 4 (25:33):
Plus you gotta keep feeding the pipeline. I guess I've
been playing the game. If you're going to be in Toyota.

Speaker 3 (25:42):
Yeah, I mean, you're not gonna put William Sewallach or
Tanner Gray or any of those guys in there. And
that's kind of what their infinity program is these days.

Speaker 5 (25:48):
So and I'm guessing Corey Him isn't part of the
Joe Gibbs thing. I mean, isn't in the twenty three
eleven Y.

Speaker 1 (25:53):
Him is in the race today in the Yeah, he's
in the race racing. He's in the two three four,
I have six to seven group. But that good. Well,
let's see how Ryan Truiz does if he gets the chance.
Some other things happened. Almondinger's gang was bad. They adjusted
the splitter what was it thirty thousands or something after yes,

(26:17):
thirty three one thousands. What what is that going to
make a difference.

Speaker 6 (26:21):
I don't know.

Speaker 1 (26:21):
Well, I guess you can't do it. It was really bad.
Everything they could do to him, they did find people
thrown out, starting in the back roll through when the
green comes they got to do and oh good god.

Speaker 3 (26:33):
Well, they did it after Tech and I was happening
to be listening to practice on the Serious XM app
yesterday and they talked about how they're rolling the car back.
So he was through Tech, he was on the line
and NASCAR says they didn't like something they saw, and
the two guys it's Mark Garrow and Brad Gilly and
the booth go, I don't know how you can see
thirty three one thousands of an inch, but evidently they did.

(26:54):
And I guess one of the guys must have touched
the car, did something to it right in front of
an official and he's like, yep, out you go.

Speaker 4 (27:02):
The other thing though, too, and we've talked about this before,
is if there is some shenanigans going on, people talk
and people whisper into tech officials' ears all the time.

Speaker 1 (27:14):
It's true.

Speaker 5 (27:15):
In fact, the guy that got suspended or thrown out
this week, I think he got his hard card pulled
for a while too, right, so he's got to go
to the like their line for Cindancials.

Speaker 1 (27:24):
Also, the sixty six car car, which is some guy
named Chad Fincham did that failed twice thing and lost
the car chief for the week. And he's going to
start in the back. Well, where did he qualify? He
didn't have far to fall back? Did he He was
starting to last either way? Huh oh well, I have

(27:46):
to tell you, I don't remember ever when they have
taken penalties to the appeal board having so many, and
I don't know that there's a lot, but it's at
least the second one. The Busher seventeen l one penalty
was reduced from sixty points to thirty points on appeal

(28:10):
this week. That's just crazy. I can't imagine that they're
cutting down. I mean, that's a huge that's a race
worth of points.

Speaker 4 (28:20):
I think that's a political move more than anything, because
there's a lot of skin in the game with that
rouche Fenway Kazlowski team, and I don't think they want
to I don't know. I don't want to say it's
like the Hendrick deal because it seems like Hendrick is
a little more kissy kissy, but I think that they

(28:40):
are trying really hard to not screw them over too
hard because they do want to keep them alive in
the game too.

Speaker 1 (28:48):
Amazing amazing, Well, thirty points difference is huge to have
huge on appeal. I can't understated. And also this week,
NASCAR is so nice that they announced that they are
going to add two starting positions in their Mexico City race.

(29:11):
That's how wonderful they are. But oh, by the way,
you will get zero money and no points, which makes
it perfectly logical why you'd want to drag a race
car over the border. Threw that mess down there and
take it to a race where you're not gonna win
a dime. Well, that sounds like a good investment.

Speaker 5 (29:35):
Kind of like the same thing they did at Daytona
right for castron nevis Or that one spot that he
used that was no points, no money too.

Speaker 3 (29:42):
I think they're looking at some of the NASCAR Mexican
Series drivers maybe getting a chance getting this, you know,
getting some big sponsorship money together to feel an extra car.
I think that's more like what they're looking for. And
you know, if your sponsorship money is going to cover
it and a team's gonna be able to make some
money via a large Mexican sponsor coming aboard for that race,

(30:02):
that's what they're offering it up to. So I don't
know Andres Perez or some of these guys that run
the NASCAR Mexican Series. I don't know, all of a sudden,
you're just gonna throw them into a cup race. You know,
we complain about Catherine Legg being in a cup race.
Now you're opening the door to allowing two more guys
that maybe don't have the experience necessary, and you're gonna
throw them in a cup race.

Speaker 6 (30:23):
I don't know if this is a smart move.

Speaker 1 (30:24):
Speaking of those big Mexican sponsors, Daniel Swarez has contracted
with Junior to drive one of his cars in the
Exfinity Series race at Mexico City with that big Mexican sponsor,
Quaker State. I will be number nine car and that's
that's a pretty big deal to have SARS and as

(30:45):

pretty glad to see that. We're glad you're tuned in.

You know, Haley Degan was going to be the really
next big deal in women and she's very popular among
social media circles. And you know, she was unafraid to
put a fender into her own teammate to win a
dirt track race one time. So she had what at
tuck to really be a star. Brian, how's that working on?

Speaker 7 (34:00):
For?

Speaker 3 (34:00):
She is really struggling in the Indie Lights race. The
Indie Lights Race is just finishing up now in Detroit,
and I looked and she's five laps down and that's
a pretty good team that she's with. So I don't
I don't know what the I don't know what the
hang up is. I thought she would grasp this a
little bit better, but boy, it's been a struggle for
her every race. She's at when you see the practice,
she's like a second behind, and it just doesn't seem

(34:23):
to be clicking.

Speaker 1 (34:24):
M Poor Hayley.

Speaker 6 (34:28):
See what she does at Road America.

Speaker 3 (34:29):
In three weeks when she comes up here.

Speaker 1 (34:32):
Yeah, but she's got a lot of fans and will
say that. So I'm a little confused. Maybe you guys
can help me here. So Roger Panske owns the Indy
Car Series, He owns Indianapolis Motor Speedway. He owns four
cars that race in the Indy five hundred is it
four cars?

Speaker 6 (34:49):
I don't even know.

Speaker 1 (34:50):
Maybe it's more than that, that race in ninety five
hundred three three, Okay, and there's no problem with that.
Jim France owns.

Speaker 6 (35:02):
IMSA.

Speaker 1 (35:04):
He also is the president of NASCAR or I don't
even know. When he's not the president, what is he CEO?

Speaker 6 (35:13):
He's then he took over when what's his face was
in trouble, remember Ryan.

Speaker 1 (35:19):
Yeah, exactly, he's an uncle. Well, I don't understand why
there was such a why it hit the fan because
he was going to put a driver and Dan, maybe
you can fill in the blanks for me here. He
was going to put one of his IMSA drivers into
the Sonoma race and everybody had a spas attack.

Speaker 5 (35:41):
Yeah, it kind of was a story on The Athletic
by Jordan Bianki this week. The head that there was
a plan in place to have a fourth Spire car
at Sonoma and it would be driven by uh eight
can I think the guy's name is. He actually the
Action Express team in IMSA, which is at thirty one car,
but it's owned by Jim France, and France would have
paid to put him in this car, kind of like

(36:02):
Van Gisberg and did with the Trackhouse car at Chicago.
I guess there's a plan in place. They get and
the wheels were turning on that and sudden there's a
lot of backlash in the garage about conflicts of interest
and then kind of they scraped that planet. Didn't happen,
So it was out there, it didn't come about. I
know he said, Penske does it in any car, But
look at all the problems they're having there with Penske
running the series and having drivers in the series. They're

(36:22):
talking about doing independent reviews for officials and stuff like that,
so yeah, they probably didn't want that. On the NASCAR side.

Speaker 1 (36:29):
Speaking of that, Roger Penske was interviewed this week and
he confirmed that Austin Sindric is solid with the team.
His contract is through twenty six, so he's good for
the rest of this year and all of next year.
I suppose we would kind of keep an eye out

(36:50):
for any kind of negotiation talk that'll come within any
time within the next year and a half about an extension.
They say he's perfectly good there and Roger Penske for.

Speaker 5 (37:02):
Now, I think he's been Mary's won a race the
last couple of years, and he's made the playoffs. I mean,
if you win and in even one race of years,
you can call that consistent.

Speaker 17 (37:13):
He keeps that up. I think he's right safe.

Speaker 5 (37:15):
If it starts to go south and things start happening
and the performance isn't there, I don't think the leash
is as long as it was before.

Speaker 17 (37:21):
But as long as he's doing what he's doing, I
think he's good.

Speaker 1 (37:24):
He does look good. I think he does. I was
never a really big fan any of those Silver Spoon guys.
You know, like, eh, geez, are you only there because
your daddy runs?

Speaker 6 (37:36):
Penske?

Speaker 4 (37:36):
And you know, even if he does lose his ride,
I think Austin is one of the better commentators too,
whenever he's been in the booth.

Speaker 1 (37:45):
True, that's good point. You know he'll be around our sport.
But I really think he hasn't done anything except be
related to his dad that would get him somehow taken
out of the rotation over at Pansca. I think he's
going to be good, and probably for a while yet.

(38:07):
I don't know if anybody saw this. One Rockingham track
is for sale. There's no price that's given for the
sale of the track. You may submit a bid for
what you want to pay for it. It's good for
one month from today. They are going to announce who

(38:28):
had the highest bid. Isn't that a weird way to
sell a place.

Speaker 3 (38:34):
I think they're looking They're hoping that either SMI or
IS comes aboard and wants to get it take it back.
It appears to be what they would be looking for,
because I don't think you're going to get a cup
date unless you're tied to one of those two. I mean,
you have Indianapolis and Pocano are the only two outstanding
places that aren't really tied to either of the two
large conglomerates that own all the tracks around here. So

(38:57):
I think that's their only thought of getting a bigger
event there.

Speaker 6 (39:00):
Just to do that.

Speaker 5 (39:01):
And the guy that owned it right now, I don't
know if he bought it as a business. I don't
think he bought it like as a race fans kind
of thing or somebody's really guy right well, and it's
Dan something. I have to look at his name again.
But he bought it to make money, which is what
he did. You know, they got the stuff in place
for the improvements and all that stuff, got his dates,
and it was popular, and now's a good time to

(39:22):
unload it and make a profit.

Speaker 1 (39:24):
So he's taking it as far as he can take it, right.

Speaker 5 (39:27):
I think he's hoping for one of the other, either
SMI or I S or somebody that's more racing into
the racing part of it, to go and take it
to the next level and make it go on for
But he kind of brought it back and it's time
to let somebody else take it and maybe get the dates.

Speaker 1 (39:41):
Make his money. That's what he's looking for, all right.
It was an investment that's good, paid for it by taxpayers.
By the way, My thought is, why did Rockingham get
dropped from the schedule in the first place oversaturated Southeast market.
A strange l location. You know it's in the middle

(40:02):
of nowhere. Now that doesn't mean a big deal. It's
an hour or so drive from the Charlotte Airport. That
that part isn't a big deal. But why has it
changed that much other than the fact they put a
bunch of money.

Speaker 6 (40:15):
In to fix it.

Speaker 3 (40:17):
The racing was great, that thing, Yeah, we have and
we kind of we're kind of going full circle here.

Speaker 6 (40:22):
We're coming back.

Speaker 3 (40:23):
You know, we went, we went out to these other
areas and we're coming back to the more unique traditional
tracks again.

Speaker 6 (40:29):
It's just the circle of life kind of what's going
on in NASCAR.

Speaker 4 (50:01):
The limited Pro Late Model Future winner was Jeffrey Peterson
out there Marshfield Motor Speedway in action super Late Model
feature winner John Beale picking up another win there Jefferson
Speedway Late Models. Jason Erickson won that one in his
Toby car. And then at the Dells we had Late
Model Future winner Weston Martholer super late Model.

Speaker 1 (50:25):
Yeah, you were there right there.

Speaker 6 (50:28):
I mean it was really good at all.

Speaker 4 (50:31):
The end awesome super late Models had double features there,
Corey Jankowski picking up the first and Paul Payne taking
the second.

Speaker 1 (50:40):
Win.

Speaker 4 (50:41):
At Lacrosse last night, Jacob Gaty picking up the late
Model win, and then the Jay Sierra All Star Tour
was at Nashville Fairground Speedway. Josh Barry was the winner,
but he got de hed for being point zero one
over the limit for the left side weight in that
post race inspection. Yeah, it's it's the burnoff of the fuel,

(51:04):
that's what it is. You can't play too close to
the edge on that. But anyway, that ended up turning
the win over to Trey Craig, making it a back
to back win for him at that event.

Speaker 1 (51:13):
And then that is it.

Speaker 4 (51:15):
So tonight's Slinger back in action.

Speaker 1 (51:19):
All right, let's sneak away for a break. If you
can hear me now, he will be back right after.

Well, I don't know. Can you hear me now? I
don't know exactly what happened. If you don't hear me,
well just go ahead and shut me off. You guys
can handle it a couple of things.

Speaker 6 (54:39):
Yet.

Speaker 1 (54:40):
On this program, Elton Sawyer from NASCAR says that they
are discussing adding horsepower daily for this year, as a
matter of fact, for the next short track event, which
is coming up?

Speaker 6 (54:55):
Is it soon anyway? At Iowa? Right, Brian, Iowa?

Speaker 3 (54:59):
Yep, Iowa have Richmond kind of within a three week span.
I don't know why they got to discuss it, Just
do it. What's there to discuss?

Speaker 4 (55:07):
Yeah, because it's Nascar and they like to do a
little circle thing with that.

Speaker 1 (55:11):
Yeah, that's exactly what it is.

Speaker 6 (55:14):
You can't just do something.

Speaker 1 (55:16):
You have to discuss it for three months and then
leak something out and wait for reaction and blah blah blah.
So Chase Elliott is our most popular driver, in the sport.
How would you say he differs from Kyle Larson. Well,
for one, Kyle Larson wins races Chase Elliott pretty much,

(55:40):
he's cute. I'm thinking now the ones that are voting
for most popular Driver, that has to be it, because
I don't get it. Kyle Larson has finally overtaken Chase
Elliot in merchandise sales. That's gonna be a little tip
of the cap right there. Something might be coming down
the line. Do you think we could finally upend this

(56:04):
silly most popular driver thing, which you know, it stays
the same for fifteen to twenty years every time.

Speaker 6 (56:10):
It just I don't know, honestly, Todd.

Speaker 4 (56:13):
It doesn't matter what happens because it really boils down
to the people who take the time to vote. Most
people don't give a rats ass about it, so they
aren't going to take the time to vote.

Speaker 3 (56:24):
And you can vote multiple times. You know, any people
that just don't like Kyle Larson. I know several out
there that they just don't like him, But I don't
know anybody that really just doesn't like Chase Elliott, you know,
and they don't like Kyle Larson because he wins all
the time.

Speaker 6 (56:36):
You know, he races all the time.

Speaker 3 (56:37):
I mean, the biggest question leading up to this week
is will Kyle Larson come here in race?

Speaker 8 (56:42):
Right?

Speaker 6 (56:42):
You don't talk about popularity that's popular.

Speaker 4 (56:45):
I think you can tell who the most popular is
by the merchandise sales. I think that's indicative of that
more than anything. And who gives a rats? You know,
if he doesn't have the title, he's probably laughing all
the way to the bank.

Speaker 1 (56:58):
What I mean, Yeah, I'll just leave it at that,
because what adult sits around clicking over and over to
make sure that Chase Elliott is the most popular driver?
Who is time for that crap? It's fifteen year old
girls who think he's just the dreamiest That's what I think,
But what the hell nobody asked me anyway, here's a

(57:20):
good one. General Motors has abandoned its plan to invest
three hundred million dollars into EV motors. Instead, they are
going to invest nearly nine hundred million into new V
eight engines. Can you imagine? That's what we want to hear.

Speaker 6 (57:43):
Isn't it? That's good news for sure.

Speaker 1 (57:46):
The EPA was putting pressure on General Motors to stop
producing V eight engines at one time, as a matter
of fact, that General Motors had told people that it's
supplies for like, for instance, engine builders, that it was
not going to be able to produce V eight short
blocks anymore because the EPA was breathed on her neck,

(58:09):
which is stupid.

Speaker 4 (58:11):
That is a direct thing from this current administration, because
they are trying to cut out a lot of the
red tape with regulations and everything. So you can thank
Donald Trump for that or be mad at Donald Trump
for that, or be.

Speaker 1 (58:27):
Mad at him right because we have to start thinking
about the planet sooner or later. We can't just put
everything on the back burner permanently. Shut up.

Speaker 4 (58:37):
We can't have a stove with a back burner.

Speaker 1 (58:39):
Todd, That's true. Let's talk about Nashville and who we're
gonna look at the winnes thing. Not a one of
us took Watermelon Guy last week, and I don't know
that we can still take Watermelon Guy or can we
qualified pretty good, let's start this week. Let's not with PJ.

Speaker 4 (59:01):
I've been debating on who I'm going to go with,
but I've decided I'm gonna go with Brad Keslowski on
this one.

Speaker 17 (59:08):
It's interesting all right, Dan, go with Chase Frisco.

Speaker 6 (59:13):
Oh from the poll. Interesting.

Speaker 3 (59:16):
All right, Brian, this is a tough one because it's
so random here, but I'm gonna go with Tyler Reddick
from fourth.

Speaker 6 (59:22):
He's due for a win.

Speaker 1 (59:23):
As well, and I'm going to say that the call
is not going to come and Denny Hamlin is gonna
win this. Ah, my favorite guy. Let's be perfect, wouldn't it. Oh,
he's on Baby Watch. His mind isn't in the game.

Speaker 13 (59:42):
You know.
