Speaker 1 (00:09):
The lt T Hour.
Speaker 2 (00:10):
Let's Talk Nascar with your host Todd Bayling, co hosts
Brian Schmidt, PJ. Newdleman, and producer Dangerous Dan Margetta. Call
the show anytime at four one four four two one
seventy nine oh one. And now the creator and host
of the fastest hour in Radio, Todd Bailing.
Speaker 3 (00:35):
Well, if you didn't like that race, I cannot imagine
what it takes for you to love a race. The
racing at Atlanta last night was phantom. What do you
mean you thought Atlanta was today? You mean you missed
the race last night? Come on, hello, there Todd Bailing
in beautiful Greendale, Wisconsin, joined by my three partners in crime,
(00:58):
spread out over the good state of Wisconsin, Ryan Schmid
and Utzsburg, Wisconsin. Boy, that was a hell of a show,
wasn't it.
Speaker 4 (01:05):
That was yeah.
Speaker 5 (01:06):
I mean it's not often. It's not often I like
turn off dirt racing to watch NASCAR.
Speaker 4 (01:11):
But I watched the feature at Cedar Lake.
Speaker 5 (01:13):
It flipped to the NASCAR race before something else started,
and I couldn't. I couldn't, I couldn't not stop watching it,
so I had to watch the whole last sixty laps
of it. That was that was as good as it
gets for NASCAR racing right there. And I know it's,
you know, a little gimmicky because it's plate racing or
what we used to call plate racing out drafting racing.
But still, the fact that they were able to run
those last forty to sixty laps without wrecking and do
(01:35):
the breathtaking moves that they did, that's what we want
to see out of, you know, drafting type racing.
Speaker 6 (01:40):
Absolutely.
Speaker 3 (01:42):
PJ Over in Trempolo, Wisconsin, of the famous racing Noodleman family.
Speaker 7 (01:47):
Hello, Peg, good morning, Excited for the day, and yeah,
that was a pretty darn good race last night. Excited
for Slinger tonight.
Speaker 3 (01:57):
Yes, as a matter of fact, pretty exciting right there.
Speaking of which, the guy who will be televising on
Flow tonight, Dan Margetta, where the hell did you wake
up today?
Speaker 4 (02:06):
Dan?
Speaker 8 (02:08):
In the Wisconsin Dell's area. I was at the Life
of five race last night working it, and we stayed overnight.
I stayed here actually at the casino at Ho Chunks.
That's where I'm that in the morning, I'm head here
for Slinger for tonight and I did get to see
the end of the race last night and I thought,
it's the same thing. I put it on and I
couldn't turn it off as well, so.
Speaker 3 (02:25):
It was amazing. It was the first of five races
that will be televised by TNT. But there's another half
to it, slash True TV.
Speaker 9 (02:36):
Now.
Speaker 3 (02:36):
I don't know if True TV is on everybody's cable
or satellite system. I know it's on Direct but they
had different coverages, which was pretty interesting. TNT had your
regular talking heads and the announcers and all that goes
with that, but True TV had kind of like offhanded
(03:01):
barstool analysis from Jeff Burton and Larry Mack, which I
thought was it was nice to have a choice between
the two because you know, when you get sick of
hearing one, you can try the other one out. And
that was good. You still saw the race, which is
what it's all about. I have to say, I'm not
a big fan of raindleys, and we did have one
(03:23):
last night, by the way, believe it or not, Chase Elliott,
and what a great race for that young man. Did
He put on a show At the end of that race.
He did what he had to do, and of all
people to beat Brad Keslowski, who really you know, he
got shuffled back to forth a couple of times in
the last couple of laps, and I thought, well, it
(03:44):
was nice while that lasted, but this guy's gonna get
kicked out here. And he was able to pass, I
mean pass under green and go to the front. It
was really amazing, and I thought he had this thing
wrapped up until Chase came by and really made a
show out of it. Average speed one hundred eleven point
seven nine two miles an hour. It was the twentieth
(04:05):
career win for Chase Elliott. There were twenty one cars
on the lead lap at the end. Twenty eight of
them were running at the end of the race. Of
the thirty Whinever six cars that started.
Speaker 4 (04:18):
Forty, forty started yesterday forty.
Speaker 3 (04:20):
I didn't even see that forty.
Speaker 1 (04:22):
Nice.
Speaker 3 (04:23):
That's something unusual right there. Since this program was on
last week, we have two new winners. We only made
our picks for last week, not thinking that this might
actually be a Saturday night race the next week. We
all got them all wrong last week, but Chase Briscoe
and Chase Elliot, the chases made the chase. We've had
(04:47):
these two new winners. Now there's twelve, only four cars
are going to make it on points. Reddick looks like
a cinch with a plus one hundred and twenty eight,
but Brian after that, I don't know. It still looks
pretty good. Bubba in the final transfer position needs to
stop having DNFs.
Speaker 5 (05:02):
Would you say, yeah, yeah, he's twenty three to the
good Ryan Priest is twenty three out, Eric Jones forty
nine out. I mean some of these names that are out.
Carson Kosovar, who's been running really good, who one would
think he's gonna win a race here, he's sixty two out,
Kyle Busch seventy two out, Stenhouse when he's not feuding
with the wholesov Ar, he's seventy three out. Brad Kaseilowski.
I mean, look how he took the white flag leading
(05:24):
the race yesterday. He's one hundred and twenty two out.
He really needed that win last night. Bummer that he
didn't get it for his sake. So a lot of
guys that need to get some wins here. But the
courses and tracks we have to finish the rest of
the regular season is quite interesting too.
Speaker 6 (05:39):
That's what I was gonna say.
Speaker 8 (05:40):
You got some really wildcard races coming up to finish
out the regular season, and we got twelve winners already.
Speaker 6 (05:45):
I mean, do we have sixteen winners this year?
Speaker 3 (05:47):
Oh my, yeah, it's possible. Hey, with a couple of
road courses coming up, maybe old SVG, who right now
is you know, the last winner in points, will be
able to himself a little bit there and move up
the the seating ladder. Kezlowski ended up second, Bowman was third.
(06:08):
He was also in a position to win that thing.
Reddick fourth, Eric Jones, what a great race. He showed
up at the end and really kind of muscled his
way in there. Stenhouse had a good race in sixth.
Zane Smith was very impressive young man. He's doing He's
I don't know, is he overachieving in that thirty eight car.
I kind of think he is, but uh, he's always
(06:31):
had some talent and we're getting to see it a
little bit now. Ty Dylan was eighth and he gets
out and he says, I beat your favorite driver last night,
because you know, that's what Denny Hamlin says. It was
that seating thing. You know, I can't help but think
the announcers are the only ones that really care about that.
(06:53):
We're not going to go through it. We're not going
to tell you how the seeds went, We're not going
to tell you how the brackets are going. We don't
really care. I mean, it's a nice what do they
win a million bucks at the end of this thing.
Speaker 8 (07:05):
Yeah, and then you're supposed to fill out like a
bracket like they do for college basketball, and a lot
of your betting sites have that and you can get
part of it. But then you have your first race
on a drafting track like this, it's such a wildcard.
And everybody's bracket got busted anyways, because they had a
big wreck early on, and I think nine of the
season's winners already were involved in that. So, you know what,
four cars the whole race didn't get involved in a wreck,
(07:26):
and Elliott was one of them.
Speaker 3 (07:27):
There you go forty six lead changes among thirteen drivers,
and let me tell you, if you did miss that race,
you missed a dandy. There were ten cautions for sixty
eight laps, which is twenty six percent of the race.
There were two reds. The first one was for fifteen
minutes for rain. The second was nine minutes for a wreck.
(07:50):
You know Grand Turismo was on TV at the same
time as this, and I really hate rain delays, so
I was watching Grand Turismo. Thank goodness, my buddy Dave
smalt Are called, hey, you want to put the race
back on? Oh good, good good. I didn't miss too
much of it, but man alive, it was fun to watch.
If you would like to comment on anything you saw
(08:11):
last night, or want to catch up on anything we're
talking about, you can call us at four one four
four two one seventy nine oh one anytime during the
program and Matt will talk to you first and you'll
be able to talk with us. They also raced the
Infinity Series Friday night at Atlanta. Nick Sanchez wins that thing.
(08:37):
I was sleeping at the end.
Speaker 6 (08:39):
That race Friday night, but Saturday morning.
Speaker 3 (08:42):
Yeah, that's how that works sometimes. The trucks raced a
road course race at Lime Rock yesterday. Corey Heim. Keep
hearing his name. He's the man in that series apparently,
but the defending champion, ty Macjeski was second in that
race yesterday. I think as notable as can be. Our
(09:04):
own Josh Blicky was in a pretty good truck and
had a pretty damn good finish. Seventh in that thing
and way to go, Josh. That's you know, we always
knew he was a road course guy, and if he
had a decent truck, you know, he might be able
to do something, and we got a chance to see that.
Yesterday's so good for you, Josh. That's what we wanted
to hear. The Atlanta Race was last night, and we'll
(09:28):
talk a little more about that. Plus there are things
going on right now which we'll catch up on. We're
glad you're tuned in. We're going to take a break
and be right back. Put some excitement into your weekend.

I assume you heard that Chimney Mechanics spot we just ran.
They're having a summer special for LTN listeners. Hello, it's
the best time to schedule a chimney inspection before the
fall rush comes on. Any LTN listeners call and scheduled
between now in August. First you get twenty five dollars
(12:40):
off your chimney inspection, So thanks to Jasper and our
friends over at Chimney Mechanics. Pretty pretty neat deal, go
ahead mention LTN. We'd love it if you did. The
Zillish factor is out there. Believe it he was. Connor
Zillish ran the race at Atlanta yesterday, first time in
(13:04):
that car that track, finished eleventh, which is impressive enough
for a first time. Or but here's here's what else
you need to remember. This week, Daniel Suarez was interviewed
and he kept uh stressing that his contract is up
in the air for next year and beyond, and there
(13:26):
are things that have to be you know, boxes that
need to be checked and and we need to really
working hard. And I really love my guys, and I
really love this team, and I love love, love, love
love in the same at the same time, Connor Zillish
is kind of I wouldn't say, like warming up in
a bullpen. He's just kind of sitting in the in
(13:47):
the in the good seats right now, kind of watching
everything what's happening. And you know, if Suarez was to
win a race and make the playoffs, or I'd like
to call at the chase instead of the playoffs, because
this really isn't the playoff. But if he can make
the chase, things might change for him a little bit.
(14:09):
But right now, that Zillish factor is real and swore
as better do something or he I mean, and he's
a very popular driver, he's a very nice young man.
He can get the job done. He's done it a
couple of times already. But uh, boy o boy. Having
Zilla is sitting there waiting has got to make anybody nervous,
would you say, Guys.
Speaker 6 (14:30):
Yeah, I think so.
Speaker 8 (14:31):
I mean, you always got to look over your shoulder there,
especially you got somebody coming up like that. Now, the
question is do he brings a lotch up that quickly
if you can, or do you do you like maybe
have another year in Exfinity Series. I mean, they kind
of brought SVG a little too quickly after his win
at Chicago and things haven't gone all that great. Although
he did his job. He won his one race to
get into the playoffs, which Swarz hasn't done yet. So
(14:51):
I think you got to look at that factor too,
as if is zill it's really ready. He's looking good
in the Xpinity race, and he's run good in his
Cup races, but is he ready for a full cut schedule.
If he's not, and they want to, they can keep
him down in extentity for you, then you get all
the problem.
Speaker 6 (15:03):
You got both your drivers.
Speaker 8 (15:04):
But if you're going to bring him up, you got
to get rid of one of ninety nine or eighty eight,
And right now looks like ninety nine is the guy
that's not in the playoffs, so he's kind of on
the hot seat.
Speaker 7 (15:11):
I feel like they try to rush guys up so quick, though,
and I just I think that that's a detriment.
Speaker 3 (15:17):
Back in the day, PJ, it seemed like we had
the luxury. I mean, the twenty four to twenty five
year old driver was considered young back you know, Earnhardt
was his rookie of the year at what twenty nine,
I think Dan something like that. So you think about that,
But all Suarez has to do is win a race
(15:37):
and then they'll say, yeah, we we think Connor Zillish
could probably use another year in expinity to you know,
hone his skills and whatever.
Speaker 5 (15:47):
But right now, another thing to look at is you
know what is what is NASCAR going to do schedule
lies next year? I know you're not going to base
your driver roster off of a schedule, but if they're
going to go back to Mexico City next year, I
think it would be hoove track House to keep you know,
Swears around for another year, because he is the star
of the show when they were there a couple of
weeks ago. If they're not well, then it'd probably be
(16:09):
a little easier to move on, maybe to the next guy.
I know one race should make a difference, but there's
a there's a lot to say about what his star
power was when they raced there a couple of weeks ago.
Speaker 3 (16:17):
I agree with that, but but I have I have
something to consider here. We we in America are very
spoiled that we can go to our tap water and
and have a you know, make coffee with it and
not expect to spend the next two weeks on in
the bathroom. I was going to say on the but
probably wasn't the right choice. This Montezuma's revenge thing is real.
(16:45):
There are many, not just one or two, many people.
And you're not hearing this, folks. You didn't hear this
anywhere they're they're trying to downplay this. Many people are
still recovering two weeks later from Montezuma's revenge, which is
what the water will bring us. In Mexico. There are
(17:06):
still people that are sick. There were people sick during
the race. There were people doing things in their driver's
suits that we really can't even refer to without wanting
to go.
Speaker 1 (17:17):
Oh my god, you gotta be kidding me so.
Speaker 3 (17:22):
Right now that we're not going to go back to
to Kansas, Yeah, to Kansas anymore, to Mexico City next year.
It it may have been a success for some things,
but between logistics and all the other issues, not the
least of wish. You got to hope that that the
(17:43):
Steve Phelps and the gang all have Montezuma's revenge and
then we'll get over this. This great idea of going
to Mexico City. It was nice, we did it. It's
over and done with. Let's move on, one would hope,
so they feel better now, and that's and that's where
San Diego would come in.
Speaker 5 (18:00):
You're kind of right there on the Mexican border now, granted,
your thousands and thousands of miles away from Mexico City.
But you could still tap into some of that market
being over there if you you were to run in
San Diego next year, which is what there's been talk about.
Speaker 3 (18:13):
Yeah, Tijuana is a little different market. You ever been
to Tijuana, Brian No.
Speaker 4 (18:20):
No, I have not been in Mexico. I've heard things
and that's why I'm staying in the US.
Speaker 3 (18:23):
Ah, you don't have to be afraid. You can go
over there. But there are things that that young military
guys see once in their entire lifetime. They talk about
it till the day they die too. But oh boy,
that's that's neither here nor there. So Ford kicked everybody's
(18:45):
asses yesterday in qualifying for that Atlanta race. I don't
know if you caught it. The top eight spots and
last night's Atlanta Race were Fords. They were good one
lap at a time and there was actually a top
to the thousandth of a second between Josh Berry and
Joey Logano. They have a tiebreaker, you know, I thought
(19:07):
it was the first card to do the lamp got it.
That's what it is on short tracks, It's not what
it is for an escar. This is the major leagues.
We come up with tiebreakers, and so Joey Logano started
from the poll, but he didn't last long.
Speaker 8 (19:20):
Yeah, But during the race towards the end of the
Fords are pretty strong. I mean, especially the Raush Fords
with Kazlowski and Busher. I mean, they pretty much held
the front of that field up until the very end there,
and then Zane Smith came in the front row forward,
and I thought they really had something to go, But
then at the end Chase Elliott and Chevy just whooked
where it by him, you know. So I wonder how
much strategy was going on in that race beforehand, and
(19:42):
how much blocking was Busher doing to keep that six
car out front, And then they finally got him out
of the way and were able.
Speaker 6 (19:46):
To pass them.
Speaker 8 (19:47):
So the Fords looked strong until it countered, you know.
Then the Chevy come up and win.
Speaker 3 (19:53):
It was a good day for Raush freaking Kazlowski racing.
They needed a shot in the arm and a win
would have been better. Glad you're tuned in. We'll sneak
away for a break and we'll be right back.

Welcome back to the program. We're going to have a
special guest on at the bottom of the hour. You're
gonna want to make sure you tune in for Ernie Irvin,
who will be joining us. So I don't know if
anybody out there that's a listener to this program know
the name TJ. Puker or Pooker or Poocher or pucker.
(23:36):
I never heard of him. It's an odd spelling with
a C H y R on there. This apparently was
one of the owners of Spire Racing and he has
I don't know did they did they pay him something
to leave?
Speaker 17 (23:54):
I'm not sure, but he was one of the founding
Uh yeah, people inspire him and I think it was
Jeff Dickerson right there, the two that did it. They
bought the the front uh was it furniture roll Charter
because they couldn't sell it, so they bought it for
themselves and hope to start the team. They did that
it became Spire. Last year, TJ sold his shares of
Spire to Dan Torris, which is the game Bridge guy.
(24:17):
It brought it, you know, it's part of the Indready deal,
part of the whole TEAMG Motorsports. They got hands and
everything on that. So he was out of Spire that way.
Speaker 8 (24:27):
He sold the shares and he was consulting with Rickware
Racing and Legacy Motorsports and this whole thing that charters
came around where they had this deal with Legacy said
we're gonna buy a charter from Rickware.
Speaker 6 (24:39):
Then rick Where.
Speaker 8 (24:39):
Didn't want to sell it, and they're gonna sue each
other because Rickware already leases the charter to Raush and
they had another deal next year at least a charter too.
So now TJ's coming in and buy the whole deal
Rickware Racing and say we're gonna keep all the charters.
Speaker 3 (24:50):
Yeah, how about that? This TJ Pooker guy is going
to buy rick Where and he's going to keep rick
Ware on as a minority partner. They are going to
keep part of the deal apparently is keeping Cody Ware
as the driver. How long that'll last, I'm not sure,
but this Pooker dude wants a three car team. They
have one charter right now with Cody Ware, this fifty one.
(25:13):
They've leased the other one or is it fifteen? Then
I don't even they have the fifty one. They leased
the fifteen to the sixty car sixty leases using one
of their leases.
Speaker 8 (25:22):
Right, but you can only use it for one year.
You can't do it more than one year. So next
year they're gonna have to find another charter. When the
deal was in place. We were going to lease the
fifty one charter and you can have the fifteen back.
Speaker 3 (25:31):
So what's going to happen is next year, apparently because
of an agreement, they're going to switch the charters whatever
the fifteen or fifty one is being used by sixty
now supposedly aren't going to get switched next year, and
the sixty will have a charter for one more year
at least that's what I read this week. Then if
(25:52):
that doesn't happen, that that was.
Speaker 8 (25:54):
That was the original deal now and it seems to
know now because they're going to keep both of them,
what's going to go on with that one? And they
had a deal to at least another charter, but who knows,
just like Legacy claims they had a deal to buy
a charter, So.
Speaker 3 (26:07):
Isn't that just crazy? So rash Fenway will lose the
sixty car after next season. Legacy was counting on getting
another charter, so that deal is put on hold. So
this pooker dude is going to keep two charters and
he's looking to buy a third charter. Right at the
(26:29):
end of the day, who gets rich out of this deal?
The lawyers, they'll always get rich and think about it
in the court between Legacy and RFK right then.
Speaker 18 (26:39):
Right, and then.
Speaker 8 (26:39):
And the last sale at TJ was a part of
was the one from the Loop Fast fifty eight card
INSPIRER paid like forty million dollars for that, remember it
was the highest one ever. And he claims these charters
are worth more that they're worth seventy five million dollars,
which has don sound great to NASCAR on your anti
trust lawsuit with twenty three eleven in front row, because
that's been an argument that said that you guys aren't
(27:00):
as you know, poor or as you say you are,
the your chargers are worth way.
Speaker 3 (27:06):
More naturally strapped as you're trying to tell us you are.
The timing seems to be very strange to me that
we're talking about this and we're talking we're throwing numbers
like seventy five million a charter around as we are
going through this this court case with twenty three to eleven.
I just can't imagine how this is going to affect things.
(27:28):
And by the way, Dan, I don't think there was
anything since last week, was there in the court system?
Speaker 1 (27:35):
No?
Speaker 6 (27:36):
Not really.
Speaker 8 (27:36):
I mean they're still the NASCAR is trying to get
the financials from all the other teams that already signed
the agreement because they want to use that in their case,
and the teams don't want to give them that. They said, well,
they kind of came up with a plan to give
them like an aggregate. Here's what they wonder what your
what your profits are, what you're spending on this, what
you're getting from any kind of outside of racing. I
think some of these technical alliances and that they have
(27:58):
said that they would give them like an argrogate thing
specifically put it per team what it was.
Speaker 6 (28:02):
And nobody wants to.
Speaker 8 (28:03):
You know, release their financial NASCAR want, including NASCAR, NASCAR,
especially NASCAR.
Speaker 3 (28:10):
They NASCAR could see that they was probably gonna have
to happen, that they were gonna have to open their books.
So what do they do. They have smarter lawyers than
the other lawyers. Apparently, let's turn it on them. Let's
make everybody turn well, well, these other guys aren't part
of the lawsuit, so will we. There'll be all kinds
of pressure from the other teams. Hey, hey, I don't
(28:30):
want to do this. What the hell are you doing?
Get on board with us, Let's settle out a court
and get it over with, which is what NASCAR really
wants to happen. M it's about the lawyers. Those lawyer shows. Boy,
you you thought that was just made up stuff. They
actually come up with some of this great strategy. You know,
(28:52):
they sit around in their fancy suits and they make
up strategy sessions like this. It's absolutely amazing what they're
gonna come up. Either way, Legacy will not be If
Legacy or Raush Fenway wants to expand their teams, they
are going to have to bid against this Pooker dude
(29:15):
now for another charter because he's already come out and
said he wants one, Raush wants one, Legacy wants one.
And what does that do. It's a supply and demand thing.
We all know what happens all of a sudden, mister
Puker here, he was right, these things might be worth
seventy five.
Speaker 8 (29:35):
What happens to the Stuart House ones that were supposedly
bought by twenty three to eleven in front row that
that right now place and junction says that you can't
run as a charter team they may be out there.
Speaker 6 (29:46):
My god, it's just a big mess. It really is.
Speaker 3 (29:51):
And at the end of the day, who gets rich
but the lawyers. Yep, we got we got Ernie Irvin
gonna be on with us and I'm when we come
back from this break, we hope you pun.
Speaker 14 (30:01):

One of our favorite drivers of all time, now currently
retired and living in Florida. Ernie Irvin joins us right now.
It's it's been a little while. We probably had you
on the last time when Ed Kaluka died. Ernie, who
was a friend of yours. But welcome back. We love you.
We're glad you took a little time to be on
with us.
Speaker 18 (32:59):
Sure, thank you. I'm always love to get in touch
with the people up in Wisconsin.
Speaker 3 (33:07):
Where you raced before at Madison at Slinger and had
a good time too, if I remember right. Yes, Yeah,
this week we found out that Larry McClure died. Kids
that are new to the sport, may not know the name,
but Morgan McClure Motorsports raced over seven hundred races in
(33:29):
Cup Racing and they had fourteen wins over the years,
three Daytona five hundreds, and of course Ernie drove for
them for one of those Daytona five hundreds in that
yellow Kodak number four car. I was there, one of
the more memorable races I've ever seen, and it had
(33:49):
a kind of hitch. It pretty hard to have to
find out that Larry passed away.
Speaker 18 (33:54):
Yeah, very good, you know, I mean, I I mean,
you know, me and Larry kind of had your that
split up with you know, me going to the twenty
eight car. But Larry was a good person, dedicated racer,
and all he wanted to do is win races. And
(34:14):
you know, that's why he hired me. That's why I
hired Sterling and had rump him and also Tony Glover
and so he was he was a racer and that's
what he wanted to do, and that's what he loved
to do. He was able to do it. And you know,
I'm a man. All a lot of the details that
is passing away, but it's just sad. You know, the
(34:37):
you know, the Homer Clare family. I knew, knew, knew
all of them, and it's just it's a shame.
Speaker 3 (34:44):
I have to tell you. I wondered how you got
hooked up with Morgan McClure Racing. That's one thing I
thought about this week. I know you were there, but
how did you happen to get the ride?
Speaker 18 (34:55):
Well, they they had Sterling, Marlon d I'm sorry, they
had Phil Parsons driving when the season started in nineteen
eighty nine, and so they went a couple three races
and they decided they wanted to make a change and
(35:18):
they called Tony Glover called me, they would you be
arrested testing the cart at Atlanta? That says, well, yeah, yeah,
I had nothing because I drive Virginia Dunlevy and his
sponsorship fell the so just things, you know, turned the
right way and I went tested and everyone went really good,
(35:41):
and so I got the ride for you know, the
first race and it ended up on eight fourth or fifth,
had a really good run and so they ended up
started me for two to three years.
Speaker 3 (35:59):
Phil Parson that that was a hell of an upgrade
you over. Phil Parsons right there alone. Sorry to say that, Phil,
but how many races did you win in that four car?
Speaker 18 (36:09):
I think there was seven, six or seven?
Speaker 3 (36:13):
Okay, yeah, I mean they were a good team.
Speaker 18 (36:17):
Fifteen and so I I won six or seven in
the twenty eight car. So however it adds up.
Speaker 3 (36:27):
Yeah, it seemed like there was a good team that
just needed the last the last spoke on the wheel
was a driver, and putting you in that car was
what's was what it took on.
Speaker 18 (36:38):
Yeah, yeah, I mean again, it was a great race team,
good sponsor, Lakodak, and you know, they had everything they needed.
You know. The one downfall they were up in Avington, Virginia,
which you know wasn't the circle of NASCAR. Now at
the time, it was all right, you know, it ended
(37:02):
up not being where he could get good people.
Speaker 3 (37:06):
Mmm, damn shame right there. Although Abingdon Virginia, I don't
know what that's close to because I don't really know
my Virginia.
Speaker 6 (37:14):
There too far from Bristol.
Speaker 18 (37:15):
I think, right right right out of Bristol.
Speaker 3 (37:19):
Okay, all right, well, I didn't know much about him,
just basically reading found out that Morgan, which is Tim Morgan,
was the other half of the tim there. Between Morgan
and McClure, they owned a bunch of car dealerships in Virginia.
Speaker 8 (37:34):
I think, Ernie, I think your first win was at
Bristol for them, wasn't it?
Speaker 6 (37:39):
Okay, your first win came at Bristol? I think, right?
Was it for Morgan.
Speaker 18 (37:43):
At Bristol their home track, and you know, their first
win my first win. So it was a pretty big
party that night.
Speaker 1 (37:53):
Mm hmm, Ernie.
Speaker 3 (37:54):
The first time I met you, I was introduced to
you by Scott Luca. You were driving if I remember right,
it was a number fifty six car and it was
sponsored by Dale Earnhardt Chevrolet. Yep, you remember that?
Speaker 18 (38:10):
Oh yeah, yeah, I mean, how could you forget that? Yeah?
It was you know obviously when I first started driving NASCAR,
and you know, ended up Kim Schrader got to Earnhart
and said, hey, bunch of sponsored his car because you
opened a new Chevrolet, dude, jip and what better advertisement?
(38:32):
And you know, and so Dale I knew us, knew
me and Mark Reno and Mark Reno was the one
that had done a lot of stuff for Dale, and
so it ended up working out and was able to
put his name on the side of our car, and
we had to use that as as our sponsorship. And
(38:55):
that was take his name and turn it into money basically,
and it was the smartest thing we ever did.
Speaker 3 (39:02):
That was that, Charlotte, right, that was what that was
that Charlotte.
Speaker 18 (39:08):
Well, the first race was at Richmond and that was
the car we had painted like like our normal shorts
my car. And then Dale say, he said, I'll sponsor
you again, but you got to paint the car but
my signature on the side. And so we did that,
and he wanted to silver and black and and we
(39:31):
put his autograph on the side of the side of
the car, and that's what he wanted and that's what
he got. Ernie.
Speaker 3 (39:39):
It's great touch and base with you again. It's been
a while. Uh, we're we always think about you. Well,
I missed having you in a race car. You probably
don't miss it that much, but I miss seeing you
in a in a race car. And our best to
you and I hope everything's going good.
Speaker 18 (39:55):
Okay, thank you?
Speaker 3 (39:57):
All right, the great Ernie Urban from home in Florida.
We're gonna sneak away. We've got some results for.

with some updates from Race Road America.
Speaker 5 (49:05):
Yeah, a pretty big event at Road America today. If
you have nothing going on, you want to check it out.
The trans Am Series prevented by Paveli will be out
there and the TA two series is the headliner today.
And the TA two Series has brought up a lot
of the stars or young stars from NASCAR. Ti Macjeski
has won this race. Sam Mayor has won this race.
Connor Mosak has won this race. Brett Cruz has won
(49:26):
this race a couple of times. In this race today,
Mike Skeen is on the poll. But Corey Day a
sprint car driver that runs a lot of the high
limit stuff and has been dabbling with some of the
Infinity and truck stuff for Hendrick. He's starting outside of
the front row in one of the hendrickcar dot COM's
Chevy Camaros.
Speaker 4 (49:41):
Today.
Speaker 5 (49:41):
Another young kid to keep an eye on Tristan McKee.
He's from Kannapolis, North Carolina. He's fourteen years old. He
won the TA two race last week at mid Ohio
and he's driving one of the Spire Gainbridge Chevy Camaros
and an up and comer to keep your eye on.
Speaker 4 (49:57):
So this race here, what's his name, Tristan McKee.
Speaker 3 (50:02):
Well, that's it's a memorable name.
Speaker 5 (50:04):
But yeah, So this series has a funny way of
bringing stars up at a very young age.
Speaker 4 (50:08):
And the cars are really cool.
Speaker 5 (50:09):
They look like they almost look like super late models
designed for the road courses. I mean, right, Dan, twenty
seven of them Market start today. They're a pretty cool
thing to see.
Speaker 6 (50:18):
They are.
Speaker 8 (50:18):
They're one of my favorite classes to watch, especially in
the road course because they got to sling them around
there their heavier car and they're pretty cool to watch
them going through some of the corners. And you said,
they look like a super late model, a bunch of
spoilers on them and it's pretty class Yep.
Speaker 4 (50:30):
There races at one o'clock today.
Speaker 5 (50:31):
Boris said is also in here, or SAIDs kids been
running this series for the last couple of years, putting
the old man in the car. He'll start sixteenth today.
He's in the other Hendrickcars dot Com car. He's in
the sixty car. Corey Day is in the seventeen car.
So you've got nothing to do today. Race is at
one o'clock out at Road America. It's one hundred lap race,

You see these anonymous polls. The NBA does well. The
w NBA just did an anonymous Polly and the truth
finally came out. Caitlin Clark voted on by general managers,
the bass point guard, the bass shooting guard, and the
singular player. They would start the franchise with.
Speaker 13 (54:24):
This is the Herd. The Herd with Colin Cowher week
days at eleven on Fox Sports nine.
Speaker 3 (54:33):
Man. Welcome to the final segment of LTN this week.
So I didn't realize that Stevie Reeves quit or retired.
He was the spotter for Christopher Bell. When when somebody
quits or retires kind of out of the blue, that
seems to me to be where they were fired. But
(54:54):
I don't know that that necessarily happened. I do know
that last week we told you that Have Boyd, who
had some things to say about Mexico City that weren't
very very popular, got fired. He was the spotter for
the forty seven car I think he did himself all right.
Tab Boyd is the new spotter for the number twenty
(55:15):
carve Christopher Bell. Imagine that nice, nice kickup stairs for
him and good for him, that's what we want to hear.
TV ratings are in. I just I have a hard
time believing it actually that Primes Time Primes Time Prime
doing the NASCAR races their time for their short five
(55:37):
weeks spread. For the fifth week, they had a one
point eight seven million viewership. Fox had the indie race
at elcard Lake that only had seven hundred and eighty
one thousand more than double on a streaming site over
a network site. And it turns out they missed a
hell of a race because it was pretty good. You
(55:58):
guys were up there right.
Speaker 8 (56:00):
One of the better IndyCar races I've seen anywhere, especially
a Roade America like that. Grace is racy from the start, Brian,
what'd you think? I thought there was a ton of
passes and I think this set of record, didn't they?
Speaker 4 (56:10):
Yes, they did. I'm looking for those stats right now.
Speaker 5 (56:12):
But yeah, it was record record passes that they've had there,
record lead changes that they've had there. I mean, the
only other time they had more passes on the track
was two years ago, the first year of the new pavement.
But some of those passes weren't for actual uh you know,
lead positions. Some of them were just lap cars passing
lap cars. But yeah, it was an incredible race. All
(56:33):
the people from IndyCar were impressed with it. Ticket sales
were up forty two percent from the years before, So
I mean they they're they're doing a lot of good
things there and uh, you know, the Indy cars got
it going on, and it seems to be a little
bit more of a of an on track thing versus
the TV thing. It's it's one of those things where
we almost you got to be there.
Speaker 6 (56:51):
So now I get all come to Milwaukee right in
a month?
Speaker 4 (56:53):
Yeah, absolutely, Yep. Milwaukee's in the end of August.
Speaker 5 (56:56):
Here thirty three and forty eight on track passes last week,
ninety six passes in the top ten, twenty nine passes
in the top five, and nine different leaders. Those were
all any records, and all but three of the twenty
seven starters finished on the lead lap for that race.
That's pretty impressive for Indy carrass you bet you.
Speaker 3 (57:14):
I kind of feel like a blushing virgin on my
wedding night tonight. Okay, okay, So I'm on my twenty
fifth husband. The way it turns out, I'll be starting
my fortieth consecutive season of announcing short track racing in
the state of Wisconsin. It's one of my three times
at Slinger Speedway this year and looking forward to a
(57:36):
progress manufacturing and that one hundred lapper for the Firecracker
five hundred. It's on Flow. It's the first time I'll
ever be on Flow. There's I think more people subscribe
to Flow than any other of the streaming racing streaming services.
Maybe I'm wrong, Maybe there's a certain amount of people
that pay them the big money for a dirt dirt
(57:59):
track TV. Is that what it's called, Brian A Dirt
Vision and Floor the Vision.
Speaker 5 (58:03):
I don't know the exact stats between them, like who
has more with those to our neck and neck atop
the live streaming thing, and they both have equal amounts
of great racing on them. I mean, Dirt Vision pretty
primarily sticks to their world racing group cars, which is
the world of out laws, unp late models, Big Block
modifies all that. Flow kind of takes a lot of
the rest, and they're getting more and more into the
asphalt racing, which is cool with the Snowball Derby and
(58:25):
now Slinger and stuff like that. So great fie, if
you're gonna buy them, those are the two to get, all.
Speaker 3 (58:30):
Right, That's what we like to hear. Yeah, headed up
the Slinger tonight. I haven't said that very much lately.
I'm pretty excited. We're glad you're tuned in. It's a
real honor for us to have you and our fantastic
loyal fans here on Fox Sports nine, and we love
them as much as they love us. And what we
want you to remember is that real race cars and doors,

talk nascars. Produced and directed by Dangerous Dan Margitta. Our
engineer is Matt Loci. For all of us, thanks for
being here. See you at Slinger tonight, everybody.
