Speaker 1 (00:09):
From various locations via the miracleo Skype.

Speaker 2 (00:12):
It's the LTNR.

Speaker 1 (00:15):
Let's talk Nascar with your host Todd Bailing, co hosts
Brian Schmidt, PJ Newdleman, and producer Dangerous Dan Margetta.

Speaker 2 (00:26):
Call the show anytime at four one four four two
one seventy nine oh one.

Speaker 1 (00:32):
And now the creator and host of the Fastest Hour
and Radio, Todd Mailing.

Speaker 2 (00:40):
And we're racing at the future home of the Championship
event from the sound of things, Hello there, everybody. Bod
Bailing from Sunny Phoenix, Arizona and by three partners spread
out over the state of Wisconsin. Over in Utzburg, USA,
where they're still celebrating a state high school championship for

(01:03):
their girls basketball team. Brian Schmid, Brian Happy hangover morning.

Speaker 3 (01:09):
Yes, a lototle confused though. I mean, I see all
these stories about Homestead, but then they say wildfires, and
I'm like, wildfires in Florida in the Everglades. That seems
really strange. But some of the videos I saw of
the massive plume of smoke right outside of the racetrack strange.
Never thought you'd see anything like that out there.

Speaker 2 (01:28):
That boy's that is it? In a nutshell right. At
least we didn't see any smoke. PJ. Noodleman over on
the other side of the state there in trump Below.

Speaker 4 (01:37):
I love Homestead. It's such a racy track. Tob and
I were able to go to it a few years ago.
I know Dan went all the time, but it is
a really cool track. I'm excited for today.

Speaker 2 (01:47):
And speaking of Dan Margetta from Saint Francis, how many
times have you been to that track?

Speaker 5 (01:52):
I went twenty years in Earl from nineteen ninety eight
to or twenty nineteen. Pretty much every friends I had
a Cup race, there was the final race of the year.
It just fitting really nice at the schedule. Phoenix works too.
I've been out there ever since. The racing here at
Homestead is pretty well and I think to get if
that championship race was to move, you'd have to have
some community involvement. That's the difference right now. I think

(02:13):
Phoenix has a lot of community involvement. They promote the place.
They really put a lot into that. They have that
whole They've built that garage area, which is so nice.
Where Homestead is kind of old. Now it's gonna need
some improvements and if the community got behind it, you
could probably pull it off. And everybody seems to want
to go there for the champions races because of the racing.
It's just you have to get that whole community behind it.

Speaker 2 (02:33):
Yeah, the market and all that sort of thing. But God,
you can't take anything away from this track. It Dan,
it's strange. You know, you've been there twenty times. I've
never been there, and it's my favorite track, just because
the racing is so outstanding. My god, they get close
to the wall. Isn't that fun to watch?

Speaker 5 (02:52):
Get all those grooves. You can run the middle of
the top or the bottom. There's three places to run there.
And they finally got it right. You remember this place
was first built, it was flat like Indianapolis. The first
races I went there, it was their shoal wasn't that great?
And they changed around they made it they instead of
squaring it off, they kind of made it more of
like an oval and it was still flat. And then
they didn't like that and they put the progressive banking
in and hit a home run. So it's been a
long time it's been there now, but in the beginning

(03:13):
it went through three different configurations.

Speaker 2 (03:15):
As good as the Racing has been on this configuration
every time they build another race track. Why wouldn't they
try to at least I mean this progress. I think
it's the progressive banking that and the fact that it's
the banking is perfect for the size of the track.
But gee whizz, it will be televised on FS one today.

(03:39):
And before you say, ah, it's on cable. Well, the
TV ratings last week were the highest cable ratings since
twenty twenty one. How about that? The green flag is
at twelve this afternoon, perfect forecast. It's in the seventies,

(03:59):
zero zero percent chance the rain. They probably would have
liked some this week to put out the fires, but
you know, it gets dry everywhere. But it seems kind
of odd. It's in the Everglades. Your segments are at
lap eighty and one sixty five. It's a two hundred
and sixty seven mile lap race on this mile and
a half or and yeah, okay, so much for Homestead.

(04:22):
I want to talk about the Las Vegas race. I
want to talk about the Wood Brothers winning for the
first time in well since last Daytona. Last year Daytona.
You know, is it just me or did that car
suddenly get much better as soon as they replaced the driver.

(04:43):
Josh Berry, how about that?

Speaker 3 (04:45):
That's right? What do they say about what's the percentage?

Speaker 2 (04:49):
Eighty percent is what climbs behind the wheel?

Speaker 3 (04:52):
There you go, That's exactly it. And I think that's
what we're seeing. I mean, you know, we had said
Harrison Burton had a lot of you know, flaws, and
I think it was more about his name. And I
think that is very Oh, everybody can see that. Now
it's very apparent that that's what the deal is there.
And now when you put a real driver in that car,
look at it.

Speaker 2 (05:10):
Go look at it goes right by the way. Daniel Suarez,
who you know, it's gonna be harder and harder to
get rid of this guy. And if the rumors are right,
you know, they're just he's just keeping the seat warm
until this zillish kid is ready to go by next year.
If he wins a race, that's gonna be pretty hard

(05:31):
to replace him in that car. Dan, I know that's
the hot ticket. But uh, you know.

Speaker 4 (05:37):
They'll be called racists if they get rid of it.

Speaker 2 (05:39):
That's the problem. Of course, we're in a new we're
in a new society. Now since the twentieth of January,
and we're not so much worried about that.

Speaker 5 (05:48):
But it's a performance based sport and if he's running
up front, he's doing well. I mean, he's doing what
he's got to do to keep that ride if he
is on the hot seat. Like everybody says, I'm just
happy for Josh Barry winning last week. How about you know,
here's a racer dude that you know, didn't kind of
buy his way in at all of this to this level.
I mean, he came up through the rank that paid
his dues, ran all that cars for stuff, that weekly
racing stuff, kind of moved up, did the right thing

(06:10):
at the right time to get an opportunity, and he
now he's a Cup winner with the oldest team and
the yeah circles. That just fits perfectly. Josh Barry fits
that team perfectly.

Speaker 2 (06:19):
And I don't know about you guys, but I think
Dale Junior should be thumping his chest a little bit.
He's someone that really moved Josh Berry up the ladder
and showed what he could do by giving him a
shot in his Exfinity cars, which are obviously very good cars.
But Barry took advantage at every single level, and he
finally won his first race. It was cool. And here's

(06:41):
a guy that has worked on his cars himself his
whole life. He didn't even do a burnout. He got well,
he didn't not in initially. I guess they told him, hey,
you better do a burnout, York. But here's a guy
that works on his own cars and didn't want to
burn everything up, not just burnout, Toby.

Speaker 4 (06:57):
Said after he won. That was Tob's first. He's like
that guy gets it. You don't tear your shit up.

Speaker 2 (07:05):
Or words to that effect. Last four wins for the
Wood Brothers were first ever wins for the driver. I
can remember Trevor Bean and I know it was. Last
year was the.

Speaker 5 (07:21):
Barton and Ryan Blane got his first win at the
Wood Brothers.

Speaker 2 (07:25):
Yeah, I'm Blainey too. Imagine that the last day back.

Speaker 5 (07:28):
Way back to nineteen eighty six and eighty seven to
get wins and consecutive years for that twenty one car.
Kyle Teddy was the last one to do it.

Speaker 2 (07:36):
How about the last time the Wood Brothers car won
more than one race in one year nineteen eighty one,
And it's gonna happen. You can see it. This guy's
been running up front consistently, and of course none of
us believed in him enough to pick him last week.
But that's another story completely. That was pretty cool stuff

(07:59):
all the way around. In congratulations to Josh Berry. He's
gonna be one of the more popular drivers. He's got
his head screwed on straight. He's a likable guy. He's
not young either. Look at some of these rookies. We got.
The SVG is thirty seven years old. How old is
Josh Berry? Do we know offhand? In his thirties anyway?
Isn't he?

Speaker 5 (08:20):
I think so?

Speaker 4 (08:21):
I believe he is in his thirties.

Speaker 2 (08:22):
Imagine the guys, the rookies are getting older. They're not
just twenty anymore. That's pretty awesome right there where. That's
pretty cool. Hey, we've got a great.

Speaker 3 (08:34):
Shore thirty four years old Josh Beryo.

Speaker 2 (08:36):
And thirty seven to a couple of the rookies this year.
Imagine that and a first time winner at thirty four.
How cool is that? Our program today will have an
aspiring truck driver. Luke FanHouse is going to join us.
We haven't talked to Luke in a while. He's got
himself a part time ride in the truck series and

(08:57):
actually race I missed the truck race Friday night. I
was at the Brewers game. There's something you can't see
very often, I guess. But he didn't have a very
good race on Friday, did he? What happened twentieth?

Speaker 5 (09:11):
Yeah, the finish wasn't what they looking for, but they
were up in the top fifteen all night long. He
actually moved forward to the end and right at the
very end of the race he kind of fell back
a little bit, but I thought the run was okay.
It wasn't terrible.

Speaker 2 (09:23):
Yeah, that's that's pretty awesome. Right, there's he's we know
the kind of talent that young man has and it's
going to be fun to watch it nurtured. At any
time during this program, if you'd like to call us.
We haven't given the number in a while, because you know,
I think everybody knows the number by now. Four to one,
four four two one seventy nine oh one. And we

(09:47):
come back with Luke Fennhouse right after these.

he's number four in your heart. It's our own Luke
Fenthouse of Warsaw, Wisconsin.

Speaker 10 (12:14):
Hi, Luke, Hi Todd, how are you guys doing we're
all good.

Speaker 2 (12:20):
We're we're pretty excited that you got yourself at least
a part time ride in a in as good an
organization as there is in the truck series. That ThorSport
group based out of Sandusky, Ohio. It's kind of a
long commute, isn't it.

Speaker 10 (12:36):
A little bit? But that was one of my main
things going into the Truck Series, even at the ARCA level,
that I wanted to pursue a good team that had
a good organization around them and that produces good trucks.
And thor Sport does an amazing job with that. You know,
they've they've won countless championships now in countless races and
and it's a great group to be around and just

(12:58):
super thankful for So since that believed in me to
get me there, and and now you know, to spend
time each and every week there is is is what
I love doing. And you know, my passion is to
go NASCAR racing. So I'm having a lot of fun.

Speaker 5 (13:13):
You know, I think Luke, you've done pretty well now
on the races you've had in that truck. I think
you're you're fitting well with those guys I asked about Atlanta.
You had us all on edge there at the end
of that race. I haven't been that excited in a
while at a race with like fifteen to go, You're
passing Kyle Busch for the lead. What a great way
to start the year.

Speaker 3 (13:27):
Eh, yeah, it was.

Speaker 10 (13:30):
We We we got off to a good start, you know,
you know, like I said, you know, you know from
last year we ran three races, two of them were
top ten, had really go go momento there and into
this year. I ended up fourteenth at the end of Atlanta.
But we were all around you know, all day Atlanta.
We were you know, we experienced everything we possibly could have.

(13:51):
I felt like we were in the back, we were
by ourselves, we lost the draft at times, got our
truck better to drive up to the front, push guys
to the lead. We got pushed the lead. So just
a good overall experience day that I've never been in,
you know, And so I think those are key moments
right now in my career that I need to experience.
And so that's why I'm I'm thankful for those. You know,

(14:14):
it might not be the end result we we would
have liked, but the experience is where, you know, where
my mind right now is at and learning and adapting,
and if we can do those things, we'll we'll have
good finishes coming up shortly.

Speaker 5 (14:27):
You know, look, your big your your big car experience
has been in the ARCA cars. Most of it is there.
Now you're in the trucks. How are the trucks back
up to the arc of cars? Are they way different?
Are they similar?

Speaker 10 (14:40):
Yeah, they're quite a bit different obviously, you know, tire wise,
they're they're on the same tire in radio tire is
a lot different from bias plot tire like the white
models have, So that's that's the main difference. But yeah,
you know, the trucks are just a different form of
racing all together. They're by these are so unique and

(15:01):
and have so much side for us that it's a
different feel that you're kind of looking for. And you're
playing a lot with the air and and putting yourselves
in positions where you need clean air and and you know,
to make your truck work you need to kind of
go where they're not. So it's a little bit different
form of racing. But I feel like we're we're learning
and adapting to it. Well, we just got to keep

(15:22):
keep grinding away at it. You know, Vegas was a
good experience for me ber clean air, especially because I
seemed to struggle at times in dirty air, but later
in the race could find where we had speed and
and showed good speed at just you know, like I said,
got to put the whole day together to have a
have a good race. Those those races are are.

Speaker 2 (15:42):
Not very long.

Speaker 10 (15:42):
They're only one hundred and thirty four laps, and and
they go by quick, right, So you gotta gotta make
a make a good and solid day overall in all
all situations.

Speaker 4 (15:53):
How are you doing putting together a good working relationship
with your crew chief when you're running part time? How
hard is that? And what are you doing to try
to help keep that developing when you're not in the seat.

Speaker 10 (16:07):
Yeah, it's it's. One of my main things going into
this season was to have great communication with Doug George.
She's she's my crew chief this year. Josh Hankish was
last year. He moved over to the eighty eight, So
that's my main thing. I think a relationship between driver
crew chief is everything at any level. If you guys

(16:29):
aren't clicking and I aren't on the same page, you
know it it probably won't work out, right, So we
talk every day, you know, when I'm in Sandusky, we're
we're talking in his office, and we're going out working
in the shop together and thinking of ideas and and
you know, just recapping from last weekend's race or or

(16:49):
Vegas or you know, we just we just want to
stay on top of things and keep learning and see
what I got to do better after a weekend's gone by,
and and uh, you know, recap and just just you know,
learn from the mistakes that we've we've done and and
be better. I feel like our speed has has good
speed at times. But I feel like we you know,

(17:10):
there's no doubt we can we can run top ten,
top twelve every race.

Speaker 4 (17:16):
And it's gonna be a little hard probably to to
get enough races in to really have a shot for
Rookie of the Year. Or do you think you still
have that shot yet?

Speaker 7 (17:28):
Right?

Speaker 10 (17:29):
Yeah, that's us a touchy subject. The scene decided to
run for Rookie of the Year. It's it's hard to
you know, mentally my you know, my sake, I want
to win it obviously, and only running I don't know,
let's just say a dozen races we run it's gonna
be hard to outrun and out beat you know, someone
like g Virgerio, you know that has a great team

(17:52):
behind them, but also running the full season. So yeah,
we're still gonna, you know, try our best each and
every race. And I feel like, obviously the short tracks
will be good for us, and that's kind of, you know,
not my main focus. You know, the mile and a
half department on on NASCAR's schedule is is it takes
over over anything. So that's where we need to perform

(18:15):
and start succeed succeeding. And you know, we go to
Bristol next, so I'm excited to hopefully build some momentum
there and and get off to a good start, run
good and then you know, have that translate into the
into the next couple of races.

Speaker 3 (18:30):
So with only a partial truck sery schedule this year,
that should give you some time to do a little
bit more short track racing. What the what does the
Super late Model schedule look like for this season and
how's that whole program coming together?

Speaker 10 (18:40):
Oh yeah, it looks good. I'm excited for it. We
have about a dozen races, a dozen to fourteen races,
and you know we'll start off the season at the Icebreaker.
A couple of weeks, a couple of weekend. Yeah, yeah,
a couple of weeks, and then that's the day after Bristol.
So I'm excited for I think, you know, we ended

(19:01):
on a good note last year and you know, had
had two wins and just built the momentum at the
end of the year, hoping to do the same thing.
You know, a wettle bit able to test the day
before the ice Breaker, which is kind of unfortunate, but
you know, we've had a great a great platform and
a and a great setup going to the Dells the
past couple of years, and you know, we look to

(19:24):
go back there and and get in and start off
the season right. You know, Madison's the second race for us,
and so that's a big one that we've always wanted
to run good and we have ran good there at times,
and you know, just got to put a good year together.

Speaker 2 (19:38):
Hey, Luke, are you set pretty good for sponsorship to
get you through the season in the sixty six truck.

Speaker 10 (19:46):
Yeah, that's that's half the battle. I mean, the you know,
we we picked and choosed prior to this season what
we wanted to do late model wise what we wanted
to do truck wise, and it's really hard because there's
you know, two separate financial situations. Ones you know, right
model is still expensive, no doubt, but but then you
go to the truck level and it's times three, you

(20:08):
know what I mean. So yeah, we're we're always looking
for new sponsorship and reaching out to new companies, obviously
meeting meeting everybody we possibly can. The companies around Wisconsin
was Wisconsin in particular, have helped my truck stuff way
more than I would have ever imagined and and kind

(20:30):
of making this possible. So the sense is doing so
much with me, but it's always something we need to
keep fighting for. And you know it's only a part
time schedule right now, so there's there's races to be
sold in the future. So we're looking. We're always looking
for more and and if a company ever wants to
reach out and help us out, you know they can
reach out social media, wize, email wise, Lutshals Racing at

(20:53):
gmail dot com, you know my number if they have it,
or or anywhere on the social media, you can find
us about anywhere.

Speaker 2 (21:01):
Luke. Best of luck to you this year. We're cheering
for you. For sure, and keep having those good finishes.
Everything's going to take care of itself, my friend.

Speaker 10 (21:11):
Absolutely, Thank you guys, all right.

Speaker 1 (23:44):
Well By.

Speaker 2 (23:45):
Last week's Vegas race was interesting to me for one
reason or another. Does this just happen in bunches or what?
That they were having a hard time keeping wheels on cars?
There's only one lug nut? How hard can it be? Well,
of course it's said from a guy who's watching on
TV with his feet up. But she's I bet.

Speaker 5 (24:07):
They're trying to save as much time as they can,
and they're trying to do it as quickly, and maybe
the one lugnant thing makes it stand out as much.
When he had five, you could probably get three tightened
and get away with it. Now if you don't get
that one tighten. It's coming off.

Speaker 2 (24:22):
A couple of things. The eight and the nineteen teams
who lost wheels during the race last week have their
jackman and tire changers suspended for two races for one, which,
you know, I guess that's what we have to do
because we don't want wheels coming up. But then what

(24:44):
I really thought was interesting going through the pits Christopher
Bell was he not sure that he had the tire
tightened on the left front. Is that what it was?
Because he stopped in the nineteen pit and they tightened
it for him, and then everybody's looking at each other. Oh,
it's got to be a penalty. I guess what was

(25:05):
the penalty.

Speaker 5 (25:06):
Well, first of all, he did it because they didn't
get the wheel titan when he took off, a lot
of times they dropped that jack it's time to go,
And sometimes they dropped that jack early and that wheel
isn't tight and that's what happened. That wheel was gonna
come off. It was wobbling. So he pulled in the
other pit to get that tighten. He pulled in the
teammates pit, and there was a penalty there. I think,
you know, longest line or something is pitting outside the box,
but that's a huge safety you I'd rather have him

(25:27):
pull in there and get that wheel tighten than have
it come off on a racetrack. So I hate to
have them make a penalty sole severe that you wouldn't
think of doing that.

Speaker 3 (25:34):
Just think about the communication though, To get something like
that accomplished in that short amount of time. Oh yeah,
from the time your jack drops, you start rolling, you
realize it's loose. Somehow, someone on the twenty team has
to get a hold of someone on the nineteen team.
I wo'd assume it's the Spiders who are next to
each other, but he has to go over there and
tap him on the shoulder, tell him what's going on.
They got to relay back to that team and then
get it to the crew to go out there and

(25:55):
to get it all done. And they did all that
in like in seconds. It was amazing quickly.

Speaker 2 (26:00):
It's enough to blow you away. Actually that was that
good and that quick and that coordinated. It quite requires
either end of the longest line or a pass through,
which comes out to be about the same thing, I think.
But they did come out and say something about it
this week. NASCAR did, and it's a safety issue. Of course,

(26:23):
you know you want to do that. It's much better
than having a wheel come off in the race like
everybody else's did. But there was some I was singing.
Nobody was here to hear it, but I was singing
last week. That's all right, listen, we'll get this thing
figured out before you know it. They had a tire
test at Charlotte this week, which is good. Let's soften

(26:45):
up the tires rather than give him more horsepower. You know,
you gotta love Kevin Harvick. He's got that podcast that
he does, and he really is not NASCAR politically correct
like most of the other talking heads in the business are.
He came right out and started, you know, saying, what
in the hell are we? Why aren't we? Do we

(27:07):
not have more horsepower in these cars? They qualified at
Vegas Wide Open on a one and a half mile track.
Doesn't that seem a little odd to anyone? I remember
the first time Rich Pickle ever went to qualify as Charlotte,
and he said, you just can't imagine how it is

(27:32):
going as fast as you can possibly go heading for
a turn, and then it's all about how long you're
actually out of the throttle before you're back in it again.
Isn't this Dan where Teddy Musgrave told us there's the
pucker factor.

Speaker 5 (27:48):
Yeah, I mean that's a lot of it is how
you got it used to get around those tracks when
you did. He had all the horsepower, he had more
than you needed, and you had to drive the car.

Speaker 2 (27:57):
That's a big difference.

Speaker 5 (27:58):
I mean, I think when you just put your foot
down to the floor and go around the race track,
it's kind of like driving a gold cart. I mean
it's it's everybody's doing the same thing. I think the
skill level of the driver comes out more when there's
more horsepower and you actually have to hustle a car
on the track and yeah, how brave are you to
to you know, how far do you want to be
off the gas and get back on it. A lot
of that is a bravery factor too.

Speaker 2 (28:18):
So what do they do They soften tires and that's
probably what they were doing at that tire test at
Charlotte this week. Let's try it, you know, softer and
softer tires. That's a good idea actually, if you're not
going to put more horse power in it. But is
that best for the show or not. It's it's good
tire management, you know, strategy. How do you take care

(28:41):
of your tires for a longer run, Because are all
good things, but boy, imagine having a softer tire and
giving them another fifty horse power at least by one hundred.

Speaker 3 (28:52):
The softer tire thing. I think it's better for the
short tracks, the half miles, the Phoenixes. When we saw
a good race at Phoenix, and if they would go
to just the softer tire, I think that'd be a good,
you know, a really good show on the mile and
a half. I think the more horsepower would be a
bigger deal because, like you said, the guys would have
to lift, you'd have to learn how to drive the car.
It's just not pointing and steering. So there's two different
ways to do this here, and I don't think there's

(29:14):
a one size fits all solution to this, which I
think is what NASCAR is always trying to do, which
for years we've said get away from that, but they
just can't seem to figure that out.

Speaker 5 (29:24):
Didn't you market that too, I mean for qualifying, if
you just told the story about how hard it is
to drive these cars, it's not just you know, pointing
in steering at Jacks. You got to have some throttle
response and everything else, right, Harlott Wednesday night qualifying and
Charlotte used to sell out. That whole place was sold
out for qualifying and now it's kind of like a
nothing factor.

Speaker 4 (29:42):
Very strange.

Speaker 3 (29:42):
Hey, and the racing at Charlotte has been great, So
I mean, let's let's not screw that up because the
last couple of years now it's been really good. So
now let's not have a soft tire that we may
have tiger failures and then we have Rex and then
we have, you know, a mess.

Speaker 2 (29:53):
We don't want to imagine the strategy. Brian, that's true,
you know that part would that would add to it
a little bit. Happy you're tuned in, We've got lots
of fun things to talk about on the program yet,
And if you'd like to talk to us four one

Speaker 2 (32:29):
Welcome back. The CW broadcasts are increasingly exciting. We wonder
what it's going to be this week. Yesterday they had
all their announcers in Charlotte and the racing was going
on at Homestead, so you know, there's always a disconnect there,
but that isn't so I was watching it, and I

(32:51):
have direct TV, and I was watching it before the race,
and I'm wondering if everybody else had the same thing
happened that I did. They had some audio issues where
all the talking heads you could stand there and watch
their lips move, but you couldn't hear a damn thing
they said, which was kind of refreshingly nice. As a
matter of fact, the only sounds you heard were like

(33:14):
an open mic in the pits and Dean Strom, my
partner at Slinger, was the announcer yesterday at Homestead, and
you could hear his announcements in the background, even though
he wasn't directly into the mic. You could just hear
it in the background. And it was very very odd.
You had the in car MIC's working, they had the

(33:35):
music working and all that, but there was a huge
disconnect in the audio. And I'm not sure if everybody
else had that issue or not. But that said, it
was kind of cool just to be able to listen
to Dean do his announcing down there, and I liked
it very much. You think to yourself, Wow, the Wood
Brothers won last week, but is that really just a

(33:57):
Penske car that they call the Wood Others car. Well,
they do have an association, a big association with the
Penske outfit. But exactly you're saying to yourself, what do
the Wood Brothers actually bring to the table. Well, for one,
it's up to the Wood Brothers to hire the driver.

(34:20):
So they're the ones that signed Josh Barry as he
came off of that number four car last year. And
they have approval of all the personnel that are coming
over from Penske. And you'd say, well, you know, what
are they going to do? Say they don't like a
certain guy and get rid of them. I'm not sure
how that exactly works, but they do have final approval

(34:43):
of anybody from Penske who's working on the car. And
who's the crew chief on that car?

Speaker 9 (34:49):
Now?

Speaker 5 (34:50):
I think it's Miles Stanley.

Speaker 2 (34:53):
Wasn't that a sandwich at one time at Subia? Yeah,
Miles Stanley. The crew chief must be a Penske guy, right,
I Mean that's we're pretty much figuring that all out.
So pretty cool. A couple other things going on. Joe

(35:16):
Gibbs finally and they must have been working on this
and it happened kub boom in the middle of a season.
You know, they lost FedEx that had been with him
for how long, Dan, like twenty years something like that.

Speaker 5 (35:27):
Yeah, one of the longest ones, I mean, once eminem left.
I think FedEx was the longest one up until then.

Speaker 2 (35:32):
Well, they finally got Progressive Insurance, home of if not
the most annoying television at I guess it's better than
leemu emu, which you know, we can probably watch for
that coming next. But they got Progressive Insurance to replace
FedEx for eighteen races. Pretty much. That's as major of

(35:55):
a deal as you are going to get out of
a sponsor. So pretty cool for them, and Hamlin as
a as a sponsor that apparently looks pretty good with them.
Number moved all the way forward. There's the reason to
move that number forward so you can put a big
ass Progressive Insurance on the side of the car. So
good good for them, I guess. And in sponsor news

(36:19):
Traveler Whiskey had such a wonderful experience at Daytona they
are quote considering expanding their involvement. Does that mean they're
going to expand their involvement with Junior Motor Sports or
does that mean, as PJ likes to say, NASCAR's govement.

Speaker 4 (36:45):
Yeah, I think NASCAR is going to be taking a
piece of the pie. That's what the expansion is. So
you'll see Travelers whiskey sponsor of this or that official
official whiskey of NASCAR. Yeah, that's we to do another race.

Speaker 5 (37:01):
I assume they Why would you not go with the
Junior Motorsports if they want to do another race? I
mean that that's look at the publicity they got with
with that, just from having all Guyer make the Daytona
five hundred day. I can see them doing that though
with the NASCAR thing and maybe throwing a race there
as part of that package. Sometimes they'll they'll put their
name on a car as part of the whole NASCAR
sponsorship too.

Speaker 2 (37:23):
And you know, it doesn't hurt that justin Allgeier suddenly
has broken out and is had well thanks to Sam
Mayer for checking up Kyle Larson on the restart there yesterday,
but all Guyers having himself a whale of a year,
He's already the most popular driver in the Infinity Series.

(37:45):
And he's doing great in both Exfinity, and he had
a good race at Daytona too, So you know, why
don't we just you know, keep that going. That would
be pretty cool, I think, And we'll see what kind
of money the whiskey folks want to spend, because that's
what it's all about. But it seems like sponsor money
is in the news lately. A while back, we saw

(38:07):
that Hooters kind of didn't send payment money over to
Hendrick like they were supposed to. They owed him one
point seven million, and then of course Hendrick went to
court to try and get the money back out of Hooters.
That's always good for sponsorships, isn't it.

Speaker 4 (38:26):
What a bunch of boobs?

Speaker 2 (38:28):
Yeah, I know, I get it. They settled on it
for only nine hundred thousand dollars and apparently they'll say
nice things about Hooters now, but yeah, it's not a
cheap deal. They owed like three payments to pay off
one hundred I mean one point seven and they gave

(38:51):
him a part of one payment and then backed off.
And then of course nine Car goes out and wins
for Hooters, and then he said, ah, yeah, us, we're
not paying anymore. We got what we want out of
this deal. So it must be a hell of a
thing to deal with sponsors, you know it just you
have people hired, organizations hire people just to deal with sponsors,

(39:16):
and boy, is that an important part of this business,
even not just finding sponsors, having the guy, the right
people in place to go out and find money.

Speaker 4 (39:27):
It's just an amazing thing all the way around.

Speaker 2 (39:30):
We're very happy you're tuned in. We're getting ready for
Homestead today. What a great track, what a great event?
Will it be the championship race in the future.

Speaker 3 (39:39):
That's what they're talking about.

We'll be back with some results.

Speaker 3 (41:31):
As we get closer to Spring. The dirt Trek racing
or ramps up across the country will start Wednesday to Larry, California,
the Thunderbowl Racewave for the Highlman Sprint Car Series. Kyle
Larson entered the race, Kyle Larson won the race. You're
gonna see a lot of that this year during the
midweek part of the Highlman Sprint Car Series. Kyle Larson
dominates and wins that. One Thursday Night, so Pulpa, Oklahoma,

(41:53):
the Creek County Speedway for the Power Eye Midgets. Cannon
Macintosh was your winner there. Friday Night the Oklahoma where
the Power Eye Midges went to the Port City Raceway
and Gavin Miller was your winner there. Swainsborough, Georgia, the
World of out Law Late Model Series twelve thousand dollars
to win. Bobby Pierce picked up his second World of
out Law feature win in a row. Chillicothe, Ohio, the

(42:13):
Atomics Speedway for the LUCASOYL Late Model Dirt Series fifteen
thousand dollars to win. Ricky Thornton Junior picked up the
win there. I think we're gonna say, say a lot
of Bobby Pierce and Rickey Thornton Junior again. It seems
to be the third year in a row. We're gonna
see a lot of that out in Bakersfield, California, Friday
Night at Kevin Harvick's Bakersfield Speedway is where the High
Limit Sprint Car Series was. Brad Sweet grabbed his first

(42:33):
feature winn of the season there and in Page Texas
the Cotton Bowl Speedway for the World of out Law
nos Energy during Sprint Car Series. David Gravell continued his
early season dominance, picking up yet another feature win last
night Telso, Oklahoma, Night number two for the Power Iye Midgets.
Jacob Denny was your winner. At Port City Raceway, Port Royal,
Pennsylvania the four ten sprint Cars, Anthony Macriy was your
winner four thousand win for the Super Late Models. Rick Eckert,

(42:56):
there's a blast from the past name. Rick Eckert grabbed
the feature win there.

Speaker 5 (43:00):
I think he's driving the old twenty four. It's wrap
too right.

Speaker 3 (43:03):
Oh really yeah, I didn't see a picture of it,
but good to see the old guy still getting it done. Bridgeport,
New Jersey, the Short Track Super Series Big Block Modified.
Stuart Friesen went from his truck race Friday Night to
Victory Lane Saturday Night and the Big Block Modified picking
up the win there. Swayin'sboro, Georgia, Night number two for
the World of out Law Late Models. Fifteen thousand dollars
to win. Somebody stopped Bobby Pierce. It's Ryan Gustin picked

(43:25):
up the win there, Brownstown, Indiana. The Lucasault Model Art
Series Indiana ice Breaker. This is a race that I
think they made me get in once every four or
five years because it's the weather is well. It's called
the Icebreaker for a reason. Twenty five thousand dollars to win.
Last night, the weather was perfect. Devin Moran got the
win there, Page, Texas, Night number two at the Cotton
Bowl Speed Before the World about Lost Sprint Cars. David
Gravel continued his dominance winning that one. Paris, California, the

(43:48):
High Limit Sprint Cars. Aaron Reitzel grabbed the win there
and finally the big money race of the week.

Speaker 5 (43:52):
Freitzel's thing was big because in Vegas he got hit
with a rock and he busted his nose pretty bad.
So to get right back and win, that's pretty cool.

Speaker 3 (43:59):
Right, And those Highlmits sprint cars will be in Todd's
backyard next week down at Costa. Yeah. And finally, the
big money race of the week was in Prior, Oklahoma
the Selena High Banks the x R and UM Modified.
They had a one hundred thousand dollars to win race
there last night kind of was under the radar and
not a lot of people heard about it. But Jim
Chris Olm picked up the win and the big money

(44:20):
check last night in that and that is everything for
this week, Tyd. Are you going to a Costa ground
this week?

Speaker 2 (44:25):
Probably not. Oh, I'm going to Vegas is where I'm going.

Speaker 3 (44:28):
So they were there last week. You kind of missed up.

Speaker 2 (44:31):
That's okay, your timing is off, Todd Casinos will be
right in the same place.

Speaker 4 (44:38):
On the asphalt side of things. The Smart Modified Tour
ran last night at South Boston Speedway. Your winner was
Matt Hirshman, notable, Luke Baldwin third and Ryan Newman eighth.
Also yesterday, the pro Late Models are running at Cordial
Motors Speedway down in Georgia. The winner was Jet Noland
and Casey Roderick was second.

Speaker 2 (45:00):
Nolan h his dad owns the track, that's right.

Speaker 4 (45:03):
And you sat next to his dad at we.

Speaker 2 (45:06):
Were up in nih Factory Freedom Factory.

Speaker 1 (45:08):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (45:09):
Sure, Arca ran as well yesterday last night at five
Flag Speedway. Max Reeves, fifteen year old, was the winner
of that race. His dad is actually part owner of
the Cookout chain of fast foods. They're mostly located kind
of in the Bible Belt, stretching from Mississippi, northern Mississippi
over to West Virginia.

Speaker 3 (45:30):
What were you doing on January seventh, twenty ten? I
probably can remember. That's when Max Reeves was born.

Speaker 4 (45:36):
Just child.

Speaker 2 (45:38):
Oh my god, wow, twenty ten.

Speaker 4 (45:43):
Kid is young and he has been making some moves,
so it'll be interesting to see the trajectory of his career.
Certainly has financial background.

Speaker 3 (45:52):
That raced by the Way yesterday, correct.

Speaker 4 (45:54):
Yeah, that helps for sure, and so does money. So
you get the good ride when you got the money.
Today at two pm will be the ASA Stars National
Tour at five Flags then with their Sunshape Sunshine State
two one hundred. Qualifying will be at noon today and

(46:15):
the race will be at two. They had final practice yesterday.
Jake Garcia was the fastest. Austin Nason was fifth in
that final practice. Bubba Pollard fourteenth, ty Frederickson seventeenth, Derek
Thorn nineteenth, Derek Kraus twenty fifth, and Stephen Nassy was
twenty six. But I don't know that you can really
go off of practice times because sometimes guys are trying stuff.

Speaker 2 (46:39):
So did you mention Johnny Sawter?

Speaker 4 (46:41):
Oh yeah, Johnny saw he was toward the back of
the practice too. So we'll have to wait and see.
Qualifying is probably going to tell you a lot more.
But if we're going to be honest, I think there's
a lot of guys like Steven Nassy and Johnny Sawter
who maybe don't always qualify well, but they end up
racing really well.

Speaker 2 (46:58):
So we shall see a couple of things. It's televised
today on track TV, and I looked it up because
I don't have it. It's thirty dollars a month or
three hundred dollars a year, and you know, as Brian
and I were talking earlier, that's not a very good value.

(47:19):
It doesn't seem to me when you can get Dirt
Vision for about the same price, and they have lots
more on Dirt Vision than they have on track TV.

Speaker 4 (47:26):
Right to a point, but I mean, you've got the
other ASA series under that umbrella that are available on
track TV and Marty Mellow, who we had on the program.
Marty actually has some ownership involvement with track TV, so
there's a lot of backscratching going on amongst the players there.

Speaker 5 (47:46):
They do the Midwest to where they do the Cira Series,
the Southern Super Series, a whole bunch of events that way.
It's not just that the Stars Tour they do, but
they do have a pretty good line.

Speaker 2 (47:55):
So if you did a monthly thing right now for
thirty bucks to watch today's Pensylcle, how many events do
you get for your thirty bucks.

Speaker 4 (48:04):
I'd have to look at the schedule. I don't have
that all memorized. But as you get deeper into the season,
it will definitely be better because you'll be able to
watch back the replay because you'll certainly be at Madison
for the Mother or for the Father Jesus that race,
and then you got Slinger you know, coming up later
on as well too, So even if you're at those races,

(48:26):
you'll be able to watch them back, which I don't
know if anybody else is that way, but my husband is. Yeah,
I'm sure.

Speaker 3 (48:32):
It's something that the Stars National tour will look at
as the season goes long. You know, the first one
was on Flow, so you had a lot of eyeballs
on it, and with Marty being a part of the
track thing, you know, they'll they'll go through it and
see what they get for viewership, how many subscriptions they get,
and they'll run the numbers as the season goes along
to see if it's something they're going to continue with
this or if something they move to a different network

(48:52):
in the future.

Speaker 5 (48:53):
I think these races are on mav TV tape delayed too,
aren't they.

Speaker 3 (48:56):
Yeah, they are about.

Speaker 4 (48:57):
Two weeks later they will be on math t Yeah.

Speaker 2 (49:01):
Yeah, that's pretty good. By the way, I don't know
if anyone else has notices. I know we've noticed this,
but how many people? So what are you going to
watch at two o'clock today? The Cup Race, the IndyCar Race,
or the thirty dollars a month ASA race. They're all
starting at two o'clock today.

Speaker 3 (49:20):
Wow. Be a conundrum for Fox because they're running two
motorsports events head to head with each other. It's kind
of strange that the schedule, especially when you look at
IndyCar being on the West Coast and the Cup series.
Being on the East coast, you would think you would
be able to run them separately, but I don't get it.

Speaker 2 (49:39):
Yeah, it's very strange. We're very happy you're tuned in.
We're going to take a break. We'll come back with
our final segment after these. Miller Sales and Service of

Make us a preset and welcome back to the final segment.
You know, not a one of us pick Josh Berry
last week. I just want to point that out. And
how long will it be before the Killer b Bush
wins his first race? Will today be that day? I'm

(52:13):
not sure, but of course I'm not picking them. Let's
let's mix it up a little bit, Brian, Why don't
you do first pick today?

Speaker 3 (52:21):
Well, we'll continue with the bee theme of the season here,
So I'm gonna go with Chase Briscoe pick up the win,
all right? Uh?

Speaker 4 (52:32):
PJ, I'm gonna stick with the bees too, Ryan Bubba
ba Ba Blakeney.

Speaker 2 (52:39):
All right, Dan, I agree with PJ.

Speaker 5 (52:42):
I think Ryan Blaney's got a good shot to win today.
Nobody wants to take Larson. Hey, he's out there and
it's great at this racetrack. I guess I'll take Kyle Larson,
although I'm looking at Blaney as well. And you want
a long shot today?

Speaker 2 (52:55):
How about this for a bee? Bubble Wallace he's he's
actually been running pretty damn good. Well, while you were
asleep at the wheel here, nobody really picked it up.
I'm going to take a guy who's not even I
don't even know where he's done, not in my top
fifteen I have written down here. I'm going with Tyler
Reddick to win today. This is his kind of track,

(53:18):
but he starts twentieth twentieth.

Speaker 3 (53:21):
Ah, it's a good pick. I was thinking about him
as well, but I wanted to go with the bees,
so I stuck with the bees.

Speaker 2 (53:28):
And nobody took Bush.

Speaker 5 (53:30):
You took Brisco Brian. He had Bowman's on the pole.

Speaker 3 (53:33):
I know there's a lot of bees up in the front,
but I was looking at Tyler Reddick as well, because
he's good on this track.

Speaker 2 (53:38):
And nobody even were sleeping on Christopher Bell. I'm telling
you that guy could finish this season with twelve wins
the way he's going. But let's hope he doesn't. I
don't know what that would be.

Speaker 5 (53:51):
You got to run the wall here, and I mean
Larson does the best at that. Reddick's really good at
as well. I mean he wont to hear in the fall.
The thing about running the Waller. You're so fast? Is
that somebody goes up there and parks up there. It's
hard to get around him. I think if if people
just you know, block that run, I think it could
maybe stole that down a little bit.

Speaker 2 (54:07):
Yeah, interesting how they do it. By the way, did
anybody notice Noah Gregson third fast qualifier today?

Speaker 4 (54:16):
I have a hard time taking him seriously.

Speaker 2 (54:19):
It seems that way, doesn't it.

Speaker 3 (54:21):
He's just he's a goof and he's driving a vehicle
called the Beef a roof Ford. Really hard to take
someone seriously a roof forward.

Speaker 4 (54:32):
Honestly, he's like the human incarnation of Scooby Doo.

Speaker 5 (54:41):
Nobody wanted to take caution wholes of oar either. I mean,
he's uh, he apparently has a special line. He runs
around here. He's telling everybody that makes the difference. He
was the top ten in the fall.

Speaker 4 (54:49):
Oh he's special.

Speaker 3 (54:50):
All right?

Speaker 4 (54:51):
Yeah, Well, I'm not going to deny the kid's got talent,
but he has way too much swagger for what he
should have at this point in his career, his illustrious career.

Speaker 2 (55:05):
Here's a good one. I should have thought of this earlier.
Who's gonna win first? Caution Holesavar or Ty Gibbs, and
today it might be a day.

Speaker 5 (55:16):
If you look at that at the long run practice speeds,
Ty Gibbs is right up there and it's probably one
of the best cars in the long run. Can they
put it all together? Though? I mean, something's going on
there that they're in a funk. They've finished thirtieth or
worse than a whole bunch of races in a row.
If they were going to turn it around, today might
be the day based on practice speeds. But we'll see.
You got to put the whole thing together.

Speaker 3 (55:35):
Yet, it still baffles my mind that he's winless because
I remember when Kirk Bush got hurt and they put
Ty Gibbs in that car for that first race at Pokanol.
I believe I even picked him to win the race
because we thought it would be that quick of a transition,
and it just hasn't happened.

Speaker 2 (55:50):
Wow, isn't that amazing? Brian? Think about how you know
he was so can't miss. He still is can't miss
as far as I'm concerned. He with a baby face
like that, You think you know he's only fifteen years
old anyway? What is he about twenty two now?

Speaker 4 (56:04):
Yeah, I don't know how well he takes feedback, and
that might be his achilles heel.

Speaker 2 (56:12):
Well, he's got the silver spoon, as we like to
say that sometimes the silver spoon is good, sometimes not
as good. I cannot believe that we're even in the
same conversation. Wholes of are in a Spier car or
Gibbs in a Gibbs car.

Speaker 5 (56:32):
You can say that about a lot of the young
kids coming up, can't you? PJ though, and then they
don't take the advice. I mean it's you got to
have the cockiness to get by. Obviously you need that,
but at some point you kind of got to get
it handed to you a little bit and kind of
learn a little bit two to put it all together.
Otherwise you're just going to keep running into the fence
every week.

Speaker 4 (56:47):
People who are able to have that swagger but still
carry some humility and take constructive criticism and feedback and
grow with it, those are the ones who are going
to rise to the top.

Speaker 3 (57:00):
Another one you look at when you see the line
up here starting thirty fifth is Shane van Gisberg. And
now how long is it going to take him to
get to these adapted to these ovals. You know, he
can't miss on the road courses. Ran pretty decent in
the in the super speedway races, but now we're getting
to these tracks and the struggling is there. How long
is it going to take for him to get out
of that.

Speaker 5 (57:18):
Doing okay on the ovals? Right now?

Speaker 10 (57:19):
Now?

Speaker 5 (57:19):
If he's coming on, everybody's looking at Suarez. I mean,
how long before Suarez keeps finishing in the top five
and Van Gisberg and struggles on the ovals? Do they
ever look at svgi G? It's maybe maybe that's where
you make the change.

Speaker 4 (57:30):
I could see that happening.

Speaker 2 (57:31):
Dan, isn't that interesting? There has been some talk about
SVG that he's not learning ovals fast enough. That's first
thing you want to think.

Speaker 3 (57:42):
So only his second year though, think about he never
did that.

Speaker 2 (57:45):
That's hard to do, but he's not going forward. Look
of hey, when was the last man he did? He
did alright at Daytona for a while. I think he
was up front. Of course, everybody is as it rotates through,
but I'd look at the difference, just off the top
of your head. Luke Fenhouse first time he'd ever seen Atlanta,
and he led the thing with fifteen laps to go.
You know, there's that. The other part of the SVG

(58:08):
equation is how spectacular that guy was at Chicago and
the moves he was making didn't look like anything else
we had seen before, the way he attacked corners and whatnot.
And the simulators can put in there exactly what he
was doing. And the other drivers are working on SVG

(58:32):
moves and the way he attacks corners, and everyone else
has caught up. So is this guy going to be
a star or not? It's time to start running up
front on oval scram Hey, thanks to everybody for tuning
in today. We do appreciate it. Let's hope for a
good race. I think today it's going to be great.
Two twelve is the green flag and it'll be on

(58:52):
FS one today. For all of us involved with the program,
we appreciate you being here. And here's what we want
you to remember. We'll race cars and doors, even if
they do climbing through the windows.
