Speaker 1 (00:09):
From various locations via the miracle of Skype.
Speaker 2 (00:12):
It's the LGNUR.
Speaker 1 (00:15):
Let's talk Nascar with your host Todd Bayling, co hosts
Brian Schmidt, PJ Newdleman, and producer Dangerous Dan Margetta. Call
the show anytime at four one four four one seventy
nine oh one, and now the creator and host of
the Fastest Holler and Radio.
Speaker 3 (00:36):
Todd mailing. But I don't know what we are in
for today, but based on yesterday's what's a nice way
to call it? Uh recathon, how's that it's going? Nah?
The cuff, guys, can't possibly be that bad. Hello there, everybody,
(00:59):
Todd Bailing and Sunny Warm Phoenix, Arizona, joined by my
three State of Wisconsin thirties temperature co hosts, starting with
Brian Schmidt over in Usburg, Wisconsin.
Speaker 4 (01:12):
I morning, Yeah, let's hope we don't have the cookout
demo Derby instead of the Cookout four hundred today.
Speaker 3 (01:20):
But I don't think it will be for the cup, guys.
Speaker 4 (01:21):
It's probably gonna be a lot of riding around for
the first three hundred laps and then then we'll see
what happens at the end. But oh my goodness was
Exfinity guys that made the stuff that Kalletis McFarlane puts
on looked Team.
Speaker 3 (01:33):
PJ Noodleman in Trempolo, Wisconsin.
Speaker 5 (01:36):
Hi, indeed, Hi there. Yeah, there was a lot of
heads in orifices yesterday.
Speaker 3 (01:43):
Boy, that's a good way to put it. But that's
enough about Sammy Smith. Dan Margetta in Saint Francis, Wisconsin.
Speaker 6 (01:50):
Good morning.
Speaker 7 (01:50):
It was a show, wasn't it.
Speaker 4 (01:54):
It was a show.
Speaker 3 (01:55):
Yes. They ran a two hundred and fifty lap. Uh,
it was kind of a like a race. The average
I don't have the average speed. That would be probably
good to know. There were one four what.
Speaker 4 (02:09):
Was it, fifty four point six five miles an hour.
The average speed was slower than what it is on
the Interstate.
Speaker 3 (02:17):
Way Way. Less one hundred and two of two hundred
and fifty laps were caution lap. Forty one percent of
the race was under caution. And you know, if you
want to get Sammy Smith really really peoed, all you
have to do is show them your middle finger. Apparently,
(02:39):
because he goes nuts, his head was not attached to anymore.
He just blew off the top of his head, blew
off of course, then again, everyone thinks they're Austin Dillon
and can do the same thing on the last lap
like Dylan did last year. But of course they he
won the race.
Speaker 5 (03:00):
God, they took the win away from them, didn't they.
Speaker 3 (03:02):
No, they did not. They took the playoffs spot away
from them. They let them keep the win. You know,
it makes you wonder if this is exactly what NASCAR wants.
They're not gonna I don't think, like Denny Hammer, they
need to step up and start throwing some fines out. Really,
(03:24):
this is what they want. Why would they do that?
Then they wouldn't have people tuning in? You know what
the ratings are. It's amazing, folks that it's turned around
and it's up every week. Last week, the Cup race
drew two point four million people, the Infinity Series drew
(03:45):
one point one and the trucks drew nine hundred thousand.
Now that's your top three from last week. After those three,
you had Formula One which only drew eight hundred thousand,
and the indie cars drew seven hundred thousand, and NHR
(04:05):
out here in Phoenix six hundred thousand. Those are all rounded, okay,
but you get the picture.
Speaker 5 (04:12):
I think The difference is though back in the day,
if I'm going to be one of these old people.
Back in the day, there was some rubbins, some contact,
but it was done with finesse. And today a lot
of these younger drivers do not have that throttle control
that finesse to be able to do it, and instead
it turns into a reckfest because we had some controversy.
(04:33):
You always got to have the guy in the black
hat and the guy in the white hat.
Speaker 7 (04:36):
Right, Yeah, I just I think it is and I
get what happened and what the car was thinking. The
fifty four moved out of the way ten laps ago,
that that you figured it cost and when you're not
winning this ragular great yo, he just dive bombed and
got them.
Speaker 3 (04:50):
Do you need a rule? Smith?
Speaker 7 (04:52):
Do you need a rule like a slinger of the
have or you dump a guy in the last lap
you know you don't get the win, he gets the
wind back. I don't know if need to do that far.
What happened to the unwritten rules in racing? Are they
still around? Because I hate on? I mean they were
always was like an etiquete in the back of your
mind that really wasn't spelled up, but everybody kind of
got it.
Speaker 6 (05:10):
How come nobody gets it anymore?
Speaker 3 (05:12):
How do you?
Speaker 5 (05:12):
Because they don't have the veterans that actually come over
and put their arm around those young punks and say,
listen here, son, we're gonna have to talk.
Speaker 3 (05:21):
Peter said yesterday. Yeah, I haven't earned hart anymore, you know,
and I mean a lot of it.
Speaker 4 (05:26):
These kids they race video games, and when you race
a video game and you do that kind of stuff,
the person on the other end of the computer screen
will come and yell at you. But you hit reset
and you go on. Also, the other thing is it
doesn't hurt as bad when you hit anymore. I mean
that car that hit the front stretch yesterday at the
very end, that was a hard hit. Twenty years ago,
that guy would probably be hurt. You don't get hurt anymore.
(05:46):
So if you look back, you know twenty thirty years ago,
you know, the crash is hurt when you hit. The
more of these guys that to pay for their own stuff,
you didn't have the computer age. I think you add
all those three things together and that's why you got
what you got now, you know.
Speaker 3 (05:59):
I mean, you can you.
Speaker 4 (06:00):
Can crash a thousand times on your computer. Doesn't cost
you anything. You just hit the reset button and do
And that's how these kids are learning how to raise.
Speaker 3 (06:08):
And it's money kids. Sammy Smith brings money. Where is
it from? Dan? Somewhere in Iowa?
Speaker 4 (06:13):
The TMC truck and outfit AMC.
Speaker 3 (06:16):
That's what it is. Yeah, So you know, don't think
he's not going to be around. There's enough money and
he has enough talent. They're just going to have to
help extract his head right from where it's been located.
And it's kind of dark because he thinks this is
perfectly good to do this. They interviewed him.
Speaker 5 (06:35):
His car owner, Dale Earnhardt Junior, wasn't even happy about it.
He had some kind of disparaging tweets kind of veiled,
but he hadn't on there. So I don't think Sammy's
going to be assured to be staying there if he
can't pull the head out of the orifice.
Speaker 4 (06:53):
One of the other things I saw mentioned, especially when
you're talking about the Xcinity Series, is up until five
six years ago, you had a large horse of that
race that had Cup.
Speaker 3 (07:01):
Series drivers in it.
Speaker 4 (07:02):
Cup Series drivers would kind of guide these young guys
around you had to be careful who you were racing with,
because if you wrecked a Cup Series, if you wreck
Dale Earnhardt or Darryl Waltrip or Harry Gant or any
of these other guys or Mark Martin, they go ring your
neck when you're done. You don't have that now. This
whole field is nothing but mostly kids. You have a
couple younger guys in there, like our older guys in there,
like all guyer, but for the vast majority of them,
there are no Cup drivers that you're racing with. I
(07:24):
think that might also be affecting some of the quality
racing you're seeing in the Xfinity Series.
Speaker 3 (07:28):
Good points all for sure. And of course today with
the Cup Series, we're not gonna see anything like this.
I say that, you know, thinking it couldn't possibly be
that bad. These are gonna be some softer tires now,
by the way they are. There's only a thirty percent
chance of precipitation today in Martinsville. But they do have
(07:49):
the rain tires available or is it wet track tires?
I don't even know what the hell they aren't. You
have either wet or dry, let's put it that way.
And it gets to a point where you can't race
the wet anymore, but they are available. The race will
be televised on FS one. Unfortunately that's not over the air.
(08:10):
Two eleven is the green flag today and Christopher Bell
on the poll, whose magical season continues ninety six point
zero three four miles per hour nineteen point seventy one.
It took him to get around that place, and Elliott
(08:31):
starts on the outside. I spent a couple of days
in Las Vegas this week, just because I hadn't been
there in a while, and we didn't go for a race.
We just went up and enjoyed ourselves for a couple
of days, as much as you can enjoy flushing money
down the toilet. But either way, I did go and
make a couple of wagers, and I thought to myself self,
(08:51):
I says, this would be a really good place to
go on whatever Hendrick Carr has the best odds or worst.
I don't know how that worked, what do you call it?
So I did take the forty eight card today and
I got twenty five to one on him. Now that
was before the car has even left the shop. And
I see that Bowman qualified third today, So this might
(09:14):
be a this might be a good day. You never
you never know about these things. I'm some savvy better.
Hey yeah, how come I'm not rich? That's why, because
I don't own squat. Actually, we're very glad you're tuned
in today. We've got a special guest for you, a
kid whose name you are going to see a lot
(09:36):
more of in the future, debut making his radio debut.
There you go, that's a good one. We'll be right back.
Speaker 8 (09:46):

Welcome back to LTN, the entire gang here for the
first time we've had. This will be the third generation
of racing Sawders we have had on this program. Fifteen
year old Pen Sawder, fresh out at Shirt, joining us
for the first time on radio. Ever. That's that's pretty
(12:05):
cool that we are once again have a first time
er with us. Penn. Of course we've been watching Penn
Sowder race for a couple of years now, but he's
going to be in a super late model for the
first time this year. First of all, welcome to the program. Pen.
Great to have you.
Speaker 13 (12:23):
Yeah, thank you for having me on.
Speaker 3 (12:26):
Did you watch yesterday's race from Martinsville with your dad?
Speaker 11 (12:31):
No?
Speaker 3 (12:31):
I did not.
Speaker 13 (12:32):
Actually I was actually had a concert down at the
Raven Milwaukee, but I heard it was kind of chaos.
Speaker 3 (12:39):
It was chaos. I would have liked to been with
Johnny and listening to his commentary.
Speaker 5 (12:44):
So, Penn, do you and your dad ever disagree on
any kind of racing things? Are you guys both on
the same page.
Speaker 13 (12:53):
I don't think we've ever disagreed on something that happens
in racing. I mean, obviously there's debates on something that
goes on at the racetrack, like a change you should make,
but usually I just kind of agree with him because
I know that I don't know as much as he does.
Speaker 5 (13:08):
So follow up question too, that are you at the
point now where you're able to give him some good
feedback from what you're feeling in the seat.
Speaker 8 (13:18):
Yeah.
Speaker 13 (13:19):
I feel like like last year it progressed on and
on just better. Like the first week you could say
was rough, but by the end of the year kind
of had it figured out what we needed to change
and that kind of thing.
Speaker 7 (13:32):
And and you've been to going to races pretty much
your whole life, right, and that this isn't something you
just started jumping a race car. Because I come from
racing family, You've actually watched races, and I think you
kind of sat back and learned how things work on
the racetrack. We were talking about guys racing and how
they're racing the track. You kind of know some of
that etiquette because you watched it. And plus your dad
has taught you it.
Speaker 13 (13:54):
Oh yeah, obviously, Like just the first ten years of
my life, before I even started racing, it was good
to just hang around there his track, see what's happening,
try to listen in and like the feedback that my
dad could give. And you know, that was a big
help instead of just going in and jumping in without
any knowledge of what's happening or anything like that.
Speaker 3 (14:16):
Pen are you Are you one of these?
Speaker 4 (14:18):
I know a lot of the kids these days that
are come up in racers are you know?
Speaker 3 (14:21):
I rasing people? And they do a lot of the
video game stuff? Is that? Is that your drive? Do
you do a lot of that? I rasing stuff?
Speaker 13 (14:27):
I wouldn't say I do a lot of it. I
mean every once in a while I'll get on just
mess around at night, but personally I don't take it
as too realistic, So I mean I do it for fun,
but not anything too serious.
Speaker 3 (14:42):
That's that's pretty cool. Now you're actually getting ready to
race in your first ever super Late Model event the
week from Saturday at the Dells. Correct.
Speaker 13 (14:51):
Yeah, yeah, looking forward to that one.
Speaker 3 (14:55):
That's what they call baptism under fire. Are you ready
for this? Is this? Are you mentally prepared at age fifteen.
Speaker 13 (15:03):
For this, I would hope. So obviously it's going to
be a new learning curve because if we get there,
it's gonna be the first time that I'm in a
super late, full flood super late. It's cool to see
how it goes. Try to learn a lot and just
move on to the next one from there.
Speaker 4 (15:20):
And this year and this year you're concentrating primarily on
super lates. Correct, You're not going to be doing a
lot of the Prola model stuff.
Speaker 13 (15:27):
Yeah. We already sold our now actually, so it's just
gonna be all super.
Speaker 7 (15:32):
Kind of kind of go through. How how the super
late ride kind of came about. I mean you were
looking to move up. You actually went out and tracked
down some sponsors and some help to do it. I
mean you kind of made the pitch and everything, did
the whole thing through ThorSport, right.
Speaker 13 (15:46):
Uh. Yeah, last year about September, I knew that next
year I wanted to go super late racing. And obviously
my dad drove for Duke for a long time and
he was always a big part of like our family
and that kind of thing. And I gave him a
call and he was super cool about it. All, and
I sent him an email just like a way out
of what we kind of wanted to do, and call
(16:09):
me back and said he was good with it, and
it all just kind of fell in line from there.
Speaker 3 (16:14):
What kind of a super late do you have?
Speaker 13 (16:19):
I have a Fury car.
Speaker 3 (16:20):
It's a Fury Is it a used one or a
new one or one?
Speaker 14 (16:25):
Now?
Speaker 13 (16:26):
We got it in December?
Speaker 5 (16:28):
And is your dad making some adjustments to it as
he would do his own thing?
Speaker 13 (16:34):
Oh yeah, obviously it's his first time with a Fury car,
so there's some things that he doesn't like, but there's
other things that just it's nice to have, just straight
from Fury.
Speaker 3 (16:46):
Interesting. This is what's your sign like this year?
Speaker 6 (16:50):
As far as races you're gonna run?
Speaker 7 (16:51):
You know, obviously starting off the Dell's I think he
got some Slinger in there as well, and a couple
of other events.
Speaker 13 (16:57):
Yeah, right now we're planning to just run a lot five.
We're gonna try to make the Midwest Tier races, just
depending on how stuff goes before that, obviously the Singer
Nationals and yeah, just that kind of thing.
Speaker 3 (17:14):
Is this a pretty exciting time of your life? I
would think i'd be just chopping at the bit. How
do you concentrate in school knowing you're driving a super
late next week?
Speaker 13 (17:24):
Yeah? Sometimes they don't. You know, it's nice to just
think about it, you know, it's nice to come home
and be able to work on it, that kind of thing.
But that, you know, two weeks out now it's kind
of get more real, just like the nerves are going
to start coming in that kind of thing.
Speaker 5 (17:45):
Do you have friends that are going to be on
your pit crew two or any other friends that are
like getting involved in racing with you?
Speaker 7 (17:53):
Yeah?
Speaker 13 (17:53):
I got one friend. His name's Tyler. He'll come to
the racetrack with us probably every week, you know, as
much as he can. He's super into a big fan
of my dad. He's a big help to us.
Speaker 3 (18:07):
Oh fantastic. Now is your dad racing against you at
the Dells?
Speaker 13 (18:13):
I'm not sure. I mean, he's brought it up that
he'd want to run his dad's race and that kind
of thing. I guess I'll just see how the first
part of the summer goes, and I guess we'll know
from there.
Speaker 3 (18:23):
Oh so not for the opener though?
Speaker 4 (18:26):
No?
Speaker 14 (18:26):
No?
Speaker 3 (18:27):
Okay? And does he have his own car?
Speaker 13 (18:31):
Uh?
Speaker 3 (18:31):
Not yet? No, So we're gonna see how you do
in this fury and then we're gonna figure out if
dad wants to buy himself one too. Right, yep.
Speaker 5 (18:44):
Does your mom get super nervous when you're racing or
is she pretty chill?
Speaker 13 (18:50):
That'd be a great question for my sisters because they're
always with her, But i'd stay say she stays pretty calm.
Nothing too outrages.
Speaker 3 (19:01):
Now. We know your mom because she was the pr
specialist at Slinger Speedway for a couple of years and
she's got a lot of friends at Slinger and we
love her. And you know, this is pretty cool when
she met your dad and all that, and all of
a sudden she's got a race car driver for a
son who's all of as it seems like it just happened.
(19:24):
You went from those bandolero thingies into a late model
and now we're super late model at age fifteen. The
whole thing is almost unreal for all of us. And
I sure hope you appreciate where you are and the
best of luck in your super late model career. Yeah,
(19:44):
thank you, all right, ben Hey, thanks for being on.
Say hi to your mom for us, would you?
Speaker 4 (19:49):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (19:50):
I will, all right? And we'll see at Dell's a
week from Saturday. Man, that's coming fast. We'll be back.
Speaker 10 (19:56):

The former and future home of the NASCAR Championship Race
for the Cup Series at Homestead was last week and
Kyle Larson. It was amazing. First of all, no surprise
that Kyle Larson won there. He's been very, very good
there over the years. Dan by the way, he picked
(22:38):
it right, just thought I'd throw that in there. But
Kyle Larson was He got out of the car and
said he was proud of himself. You don't hear him
say stuff like that very often, do you.
Speaker 7 (22:51):
I think it's because he threw a bunch of them
away there. He's been so good at that race track
that he had to have a ton of wins there.
And it seems like every time he's up front dominating
that place'll find something to mess up, like hitting the
barrels and pit road and that kind of stuff. And
he actually put a whole race together and made it work.
It was actually Alex Bowman that had the mistake, you know,
hit the fence late in the race and let and
(23:11):
Kyle get by. So I think he's just probably that
it actually puts something together a track he should be
really well at.
Speaker 3 (23:18):
He said something that I uh, that sticks in your mind,
and I got a funny feeling. You know, my compadres
feel the same way. He said, if we didn't have
this car, if we had the car before this, he
would have had fifty more wins by. Now that's kind
of scary, isn't it.
Speaker 7 (23:39):
Yeah, you can you can put that all together. I
mean it's you can look at two ways. Is you know,
is the car good or the current car good or bad?
Speaker 6 (23:46):
Is it?
Speaker 7 (23:46):
Is it good that it's hard for Kyle Arson to drive,
who's one of the probably the best driver out there.
I mean maybe that says something with this car is
tough and it makes him work for it every every week.
But then again, orders this car that that out of
whack of everything that the best guy can't you put
things together with it? I mean, it's what would you
say that is if people like the car or not?
Speaker 3 (24:08):
Yeah? No kidding, my guess here I mentioned that these
rain tires are available, But are these tires that they're
going to use today? Have they used them in the past?
Or are these new softer tires? Do we know?
Speaker 4 (24:21):
I think it's the soft it's the softer compound, similar
to the one they use that Phoenix from what I understand, okay,
the red ones. Yeah, okay, well I don't know if
it's quite that soft, but it's similar.
Speaker 3 (24:33):
What that would mean. And they only have eight sets today,
I say only, I mean it's four hundred laps. You
realize it's only two hundred and ten miles of racing today.
But on the other hand, they're going to shift sixteen
hundred times a piece to get around that track, which
is also you know, is it lame or not? We're
(24:56):
trying to make up for something to shift the whole time.
Why Here's where I would probably ask ed, why don't
they just gear them differently so they don't have to
shift like that? Is that just? Is that not an option?
It seems like something that would A real.
Speaker 5 (25:13):
Racer knows how to shift and not just mash a throttle, but.
Speaker 4 (25:19):
Usually on a short track that's not part of the operation.
You know, shifting is not They don't shift in the
truck series. They don't shift in the Infinity series. These cars.
There's more gears in these cars, and since they've been
able to shift, it takes a little bit of the
driver out of it, because you know, you can use
the shifting to slow your car down to go into
the corner instead of having to figure out where your
(25:39):
different breakpoints are.
Speaker 3 (25:40):
And I think that's what's taken.
Speaker 4 (25:42):
Away from some of the good racing at Martinsville since
we've went to this car.
Speaker 6 (25:46):
I suppose they actually had time to shift.
Speaker 7 (25:48):
I mean, you think I'll quick These laps aren't anything else,
and being such a tight quarter racing with Martinsville, if
somebody's you know, on your fenders and banging on your door,
you actually got time to shift, you know, twice a
lap or four times e lap.
Speaker 3 (25:59):
Higherwear would be a really good thing to have to
worry about in a race like this. You know, yesterday
with all those caution laps yesterday and was it another
record for cautions? It was just unbelievable. The car that
led the most laps was the pace car, which is
what happens here. But you know, these soft tires are
(26:21):
they gonna make is it going to fall into the
strategy of this race. That's I guess the real question.
It's one thing to have softer tires so the cars,
you know, act differently, but you know, are they gonna
wear out? That's what we really need, so that there's
strategy involved, right well.
Speaker 5 (26:37):
Especially with brakes too, I mean heating up and putting
in more stress on those tires.
Speaker 3 (26:44):
There's so many things that could go into it. For
four hundred laps. By the way, this is a four
hundred lapper in the fall I remember, right, it's a
five hundred lapper, So it's still a long race for
these cars. And can you imagine if yesterday's race was
four hundred or five hundred laps, think how long it took.
I think how bad it was For two hundred and
(27:06):
fifty laps, they probably would have readjusted their strategy and
just drove around. And that's what we're kind of afraid of.
Is there going to be a lot of single file
racing today as we're getting ready for the last one
hundred laps or fifty laps or whenever it's gold time?
Speaker 7 (27:21):
Has there been any like beefs going on too far
for the first so many races this year, anybody mad
at each other because this is usually where you kind
of take it out.
Speaker 5 (27:29):
Yeah, I think there's been a lot of people mad
at Carson Josa Bar and he's qualified up front for
the start of the race.
Speaker 3 (27:34):
So I don't think that's true. Oh no, he was
in practice up front.
Speaker 5 (27:39):
I still think that this would be a good place
for people to get some of their yah yas out
on him.
Speaker 3 (27:46):
I think you're right by the way, you know, your
typical up front qualifiers are all there a couple guys
that jump out at me. Brad Keselowski qualified twenty seventh
and Ryan what is going on? Thirty second fastest qualifier
and they're having problems keeping engines together? How can that be?
(28:10):
Does that make any sense? Why is it only one car?
Speaker 5 (28:13):
I don't know for sure, but I do know that
even Christopher Busher was Chris Buscher was twenty eighth in
his practice run, but yet he jumped up higher for qualifying.
So I think that they're all just kind of testing
some stuff. I wouldn't be surprised if the Ford guys
put their heads together today, and I don't know, I
wouldn't be surprised to see a Ford and Victor Lee.
Speaker 3 (28:36):
Listen to you, it's a Hendrick show. And you know
what I'm thinking in the back of my head here
is that it's going to be Kyle Larson and Christopher
Bell that are going to be the story of the race.
It just seems that way to me. Bell's obviously having
a great season and qualified on the poll. Larson is
(28:58):
not far behind. They are the two open wheel rivals
that have made the leap and I'll get their living
in NASCAR so they can go play around with their
open wheel cars on dirt when they when they want
to and feel like it. But those are the guys.
And really between Larson winning last week and Bell already
(29:21):
winning three times, they have been kind of like the
story of the sport.
Speaker 7 (29:26):
This year's let the most laps this year, I think
it's been Penske, hasn't it Like the twelve and the
tent and they got nothing to show for it because
they can't finish these races and the twenty two, I mean,
Lognald does't have a top ten finish yet this year,
and Blaney's been upfront and have the engine problem. So
I wouldn't be surprised to see maybe a Penske car
challenging him.
Speaker 3 (29:45):
Okay, well you keep that all in mind. Of course,
all you're doing is making PJ happier. She's going to
take Blaaney later because he's starting thirty second, and you
know that's what we got to do. We're glad you're

Speaker 3 (32:04):
Couple of business items to talk about a little bit.
I guess, uh, the mav TV network. Not everybody gets it.
I know I do. With Direct Brian, I know you do.
Speaker 9 (32:15):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (32:16):
I don't know if you other two get mav TV
and whatever you have.
Speaker 6 (32:20):
Yes, I do.
Speaker 3 (32:20):
I'm on Spectrum Spectrum that's the Milwaukee cable and we
do and it's not on Dish.
Speaker 6 (32:29):
Not what the package we have anyway.
Speaker 3 (32:30):
Okay, Well, apparently mav TV has been sold. It's going
to change names to Racer Network. We don't know a
hell of a lot more about it. I don't think,
do we. I mean, it's I don't know.
Speaker 7 (32:43):
Is a pretty big brand. I mean Racer have them,
they had the magazine, they get their website.
Speaker 3 (32:48):
It's all the same group. Huh.
Speaker 6 (32:49):
Yeah.
Speaker 7 (32:50):
They've built that for quite a while in the last
several years, building that brand up pretty big, and now
they're gonna get into the TV business and they've taken
over Maths.
Speaker 6 (32:57):
That's actually a pretty big step.
Speaker 4 (33:00):
And MAV kind of kind of suffered a little bit
after Lucas Soil. It was it was pretty much put
together by the Lucasoil group, and when Forrest Lucas kind
of pulled away from a lot of that the.
Speaker 3 (33:09):
TV stuff they used to have Lucas Oil TV, which was.
Speaker 4 (33:11):
Kind of tied to MAV TV, that kind of left
them a little bit hanging and kind of left it
up for sale. So I think that's why this group
finally just is going to pick it up and we'll
see which way to go with The Racer does a
lot more of the road racing type stuff compared to
the you know, the dirt track oval stuff, but I
would assume they're going to probably keep a lot of
the same items on there going forward.
Speaker 3 (33:32):
Well, we'll just keep our fingers crossed that it goes well.
I mean, I think back to the Speed Network days,
which eventually became FS one. You know. But in another
little business tidbit, President Trump's tariff is going to have
a direct impact on those folks who still collect die casts. Lionel.
(33:55):
Lionel they used to just make trains, they did. When
I was a kid, I had a Lionel train. They
are going to add a twenty percent tariff surcharge to
all their die casts now. And you know, guys and girls,
I from what I remember, that die cast business isn't
(34:15):
what it was at one time, right, I mean, not
as many people are in the collectible thing anymore.
Speaker 5 (34:21):
It was really big with Dale Earnhardt Sr. And I
think that he actually, I know he was the guy
Fred that actually started the whole die cast thing. Helped
they'll become the multi millionaire that he was through that
whole die cast thing. But they are not as popular
as they once were, but there is still some novelty
to them, and they do try to change it up
(34:42):
by having like the championship car that has all the
confetti and stuff on it as well too.
Speaker 7 (34:47):
So I think part of it too is there's so
many out they've kind of oversaturated with all kinds of
different paint schemes and different types of.
Speaker 6 (34:53):
Cars, and yeah, you can't keep up with it. If
you're gonna you're gonna collect that they're not cheap.
Speaker 5 (34:58):
Part of it, though, too, is the sponsorships changed so much.
It was different when you had consistent sponsorships with people.
Speaker 4 (35:07):
And a delay Lately a lot of that stuff. Like
if there's like next week, for instance, is the throwback weekend,
And if you wanted to get a replica of one
of the cool throwback cars, you're not going to be
able to get that car in your hands until like
next months.
Speaker 3 (35:22):
Yeah. Yeah.
Speaker 4 (35:23):
So the fact that there's such a backlog on this
and that you know, it used to be when I
was a kid, and I Dan can attest to this.
I used to have oodles of those things, and he
used to watch us buy him at the track. It
was crazy how much of that stuff we'd have. But
you could go to the track. I like that car,
go back, you could buy it.
Speaker 3 (35:38):
You can't do that anymore, Ryan, And now it's going
to be twenty percent higher and cost on top of
everything else. And it takes so long to get it
because of course they make it in China and then
they put it on one of those big ships and
then they got to hope that they don't run into
some foul weather and lose a couple of you know
which one. Yeah great, But this is what the whole
(36:01):
point was. I think behind the tariffs is that maybe
we can make them at a less expensive rate in
the United States, you know that.
Speaker 4 (36:10):
And the hardest, the hardest part with that is going
to be like, Okay, you could get there's a lot
of great people that I know, a couple of them
that are able to make the wraps to put on
the cars. It's getting the actual die cast car itself,
which is what's made over there. If we could get
those made over here, I think then we'd be then
we'd be onto something and we could maybe get these
prices down, which I think is the ultimate.
Speaker 3 (36:28):
Goal of this right.
Speaker 4 (36:29):
Yes, not, It's going to take a while for it
to happen.
Speaker 3 (36:31):
Interesting though, isn't it. How what there's there's so many
facets to this business. It's not just about cars going
fast and turning left. You know, we've got networks coming
and going, and sponsorships coming and going, and and now
we're even talking about, you know, collectibles, which have been
such a big part of the business.
Speaker 5 (36:51):
For me, and even championship locations may be coming and going, right, Brian.
Speaker 4 (36:56):
Yeah, I watched after the race last week. It's the
tear Down podcast that Jeff Gluck and Jordan Bianki do,
and it came up the subject of his homestead going
to host the championship race in the future, and Jordan
had a conversation with I think it's the vice mayor
of the Homestead area. And the biggest crux of this
entire operation now is the communities that host the race
(37:17):
chipping in towards it. So right now, Phoenix has the race,
and I don't know the figure, but Phoenix, the City
of Phoenix, and the metropolitan area there give NASCAR an
next amount of dollars to host the race Miami in Homestead,
it would be in the same boat. However, they have
so many events in the Miami Homestead area right now
that they don't know that they have a number that
they could give to NASCAR to host that race. That's
(37:40):
the first big issue. The second issue is the facility
at Miami Homestead race Way. It doesn't have all the
modern amenities I think Dan talked about it last week,
like the garage that Phoenix has and the upgrades that
you need to host that major event. So as much
as Homestead wants the race right away, if the community
can't come up with the money for NASCAR to say, hey,
(38:01):
this is what we want to do going forward, I
don't know that it's gonna happen now. There's a lot
of people out there saying, well, NASCAR spends a whole
bunch of money to put races all over the place,
Why do they need money now for this? Well, I
mean that's part of the business. So I don't know
that they're going to forfeit all that just to have
a race at that venue.
Speaker 3 (38:17):
So I know.
Speaker 4 (38:18):
Homestead is hoping for it, the community is hoping for it.
I think it's going to come down to dollars and
cents in the end.
Speaker 3 (38:23):
Interesting, and NASCAR owns both tracks, don't they correct?
Speaker 6 (38:27):
Correct?
Speaker 4 (38:27):
There's also talk that Las Vegas would also be in
the mix, so that was an interesting thought to hear
as well, that not only is it just going to
be like a between a Homestead and a Phoenix thing,
but that Las Vegas would also be a potential home
for the championship race that's not owned by NASCAR's I
was just going to say that, yeah, the fact that
they're even thinking about that. However, if the Las Vegas
(38:48):
community is willing to put forth the money it's a
bompionship event, they may NASCAR might be like, hey, well
we're going to make up the money not owning the track,
But we'll make it up in the community wanting to
host the event.
Speaker 7 (38:59):
Remember Vegas put up the money for that second date, Yep, yep, boy.
Speaker 3 (39:03):
And you know, it doesn't seem like money is a
big object when it comes to you know, coming out
there filling up all those hotels. You know, the the
Oakland A's where now the Sacramento A's are going to
be the Las Vegas A's in a couple of years.
They're building that brand new stadium in Vegas and it's
only thirty five thousand seats, and you think to yourself, well,
(39:25):
that doesn't seem like it's a bit Well, they're going
to have a lot of suites and whatnot for extra income.
Speaker 4 (39:30):
But I think Vegas would be a slam dunk home
for that. I mean, Dan, you and I went to that.
Remember they kicked off the playoffs that year, and how
big of a you know, pomp and circumstance they had
with the with the thing at the cut Town, you know,
the or what is it the South Pointeah Yes, cell
Point Resort and all that stuff.
Speaker 3 (39:46):
I think that would be a perfect location.
Speaker 6 (39:48):
For that pronounce on the strip.
Speaker 7 (39:50):
But then all kinds, I think I could see him
maybe rotating that championship event, maybe Phoenix homes to Vegas,
maybe right two years or something, just that it doesn't
get stealing.
Speaker 5 (39:59):
I was going to say that would keep it fresh.
And Vegas is already a built in party and.
Speaker 4 (40:03):
Their facility is set up for it. It has the
garages that you're looking for, fan interaction all that. So
I think I think Homestead's gonna need a little bit
of work before they actually get the race so interesting.
Speaker 3 (40:13):
I'll tell you what else, Brian, The racing at Vegas
may not quite be quite as good as it was
in Homestead, but it's a damn site better than it
is in Phoenix. And I think we're onto something. I
think we figured this out. We're the championship is going
to end up in Vegas, where it probably belongs. We'll
be right back.

Speaker 3 (43:12):
The Cool Namer Race.
Speaker 4 (43:13):
It wasn't nippy though. It was eighty degrees on Friday
at that race. I know a couple of people that
were down there. Ten thousand dollars the win of the
Mars Dirt Car Super Late Model Series. Bobby Pierce picked
up the win in the IMCA Modifi's Jeff Boone Larsen
picked up the win there Night number two in Wheatland, Missouri,
the Lucas Oil Speedway for the King of America's five
hundred or five thousand dollars to win.
Speaker 3 (43:31):

In Todd's Neck of the Woods, Costa Grande, Arizona, the
Central Arizona Raceway for the High Limit Sprint Car Series.
Aaron Reitzel grabbed the win after passing Tyler Courtney late
in the future event there to pick up the win
there Lawton, Oklahoma. The world about law Noss Energy during
Sprint Car Series. Budd he Colfoyd picked up the win there.
On Friday night last night, the World About Law sprint
cars were in Wichita, Kansas, and this is I haven't
(43:54):
heard about this, but it was post They ran the
heat races and they had several cars flip kind of
inexp but it turned out there was very high winds.
There are forty plus mile an hour sustained wins and
they had to cancel the rest of the program, which,
interestingly enough, that was the first race two thousand, three
hundred and sixty seven consecutive races that World out Law
announcer Johnny Gibson had announced he was not going to
(44:16):
be there last night because he had an aphib situation.
Fortunately he went to the hospital, they were able to
get that straightened out and he was going to miss
that race since the event was but since the event
was postponed, that streak will continue because he is expected
to be back Friday when they get back in action.
Speaker 3 (44:32):
So best to Johnny Gibson.
Speaker 4 (44:34):
He's one of he is the best in the business arguably,

Night number two at Cossa Ground, Arizona at the Central

the win last night after passing Casey Kane midway through
that feature event. And finally, the big money race of
the weekend was in Whetland, Missouri, the Lucas Oil Speedway
for the USMTS Modified's King of America twenty thousand dollars
(45:41):
to win. Cade Dillard, who's pretty much hopped out of
his late model now going modified racing, and it makes
sense because he's winning a lot of money in his modifieds.
Speaker 3 (45:48):
He picked up the win there. That has everything for
this week? Did you happen to check on Facebook? Here
are special looks like our special new correspondent Tommy Muskrave

Cassa grand and it was it was s R O
for those high limit cars. Yes, uh, you know it's
(46:12):
the closer. It's not just the closest. The dirt tracks
are disappearing out here because there's so much uh, residential
areas that are expanding that you know they're disappearing. And
this Casa grand is that the Panal County Fairgrounds out there,
so it's unlikely to disappear, but they have events that
(46:34):
aren't all that. Man, that wasn't the thing yesterday that
place was knocking down the doors. I don't know if
you I watched some of it on Flow Life.
Speaker 4 (46:42):
They even added a large grand stand in turn one

so that Uma is not part of the deal anymore.
So again, it's the only track around and they sure
(47:18):
brought him off.
Speaker 7 (47:19):
Don't forget those high limit cars come around here June
third on Tuesday night at one forty one Speedway, so
they get tracked there part of the right part of
the whole week of sprint car racing.
Speaker 6 (47:28):
The Outlaws come to Plmouth that week too.
Speaker 3 (47:30):
I don't even know if we had.
Speaker 5 (47:32):
Yeah, we did the ASA Stars ran last Sunday Appellation
Sucker Punch presented, so that's an appropriate sponsor. Sunshine State
two hundred at five Leg Speedway. Your winner was Cold Butcher.
Jake Garcia, Matthew Craig, Stephen Nassy, and Colby Howard rounded
out the top five. Bubba Pollard was ninth, Derek Thorn twelfth,
(47:53):
Austin Nason sixteenth, Johnny Sawdter twentieth, Derek Crouse twenty first.
That tour will roll on to Dominion Speedway Saturday, April fifth,
but we are just under two weeks out from firing
the engines. Up here in the Midwest. We've already talked
about the Icebreaker at Dell's Raceway Park Saturday.
Speaker 3 (48:11):
April twelfth.
Speaker 5 (48:12):
Racing starts at two pm.
Speaker 3 (48:15):
And it's one hundred lapper for five thousand to win,
and first time it's going to be on a Saturday
in the last Well was it last year too?
Speaker 6 (48:23):
I think it was last year too.
Speaker 7 (48:24):
And then pretty good field stuper light for that, plus
he got a good field of Midwest trucks and those
six oh two out lock cars I.
Speaker 3 (48:30):
Say thirty two supers are entered, twenty seven six oh
two is that there's more and more of them, and
Johnny's Midwest Truck Series thirty three trucks for that total
of ninety two race cars. That's pretty pretty cool. Dan,
don't forget the Slinger opener is right around a corner,
(48:50):
just a little less than a month away. Now it's
a fifty lap twenty five hundred to win Jerry Priest
in All Star Cha injuries for late Models, so I
wanted to start on that too. I heard so that
ought to pay tire bill almost. Uh, that's pretty great.
(49:11):
And it's coming, guys. The season is firing right up here.
Speaker 7 (49:16):
And I'll say something with that slinger to the Dassels.
I've made some changes out there. I have thought the pricing.
There's actually a family pricing to adults three children under seventeen.
I think it is getting for forty bucks.
Speaker 3 (49:27):
That's pretty sweet. Oh that is Hey, times they are changing,
and promoters are there changing too. It's pretty cool. We're
going to take a little break and come back with
some more stuff. Hang in there.

Welcome back, Nice to have you. In the final segment here,
former Slinger Speedway feature winner Jesse Love is going to
make his Cup debut coming up at Bristol. He's going
to drive Child Childress has an extra car, number thirty three.
They haul it out for certain occasions. It doesn't have
a charter. It's going to be driven mostly by Austin Hill.
(52:31):
He's got five events coming up in the thing. But
Jesse Love is going to race at that Bristol. You
know when he raced that Slinger. First of all, he
was pretty young. I'm going to guess about Penn Sawder's
age thereabouts, maybe even younger. Started on a pole let
every lap. The same car ran a couple of days
(52:51):
later in the Slinger Nationals and then had an issue,
which I didn't think that anything changed very much between
the two either way. The kid came out this Linger
and won. Everybody loved him. He walked around in the
pits and did not drink beer. And made a point
to come over and meet Jerry Eckhart. Here. You had
this fifteen year old kid, first time there and you're
(53:12):
meeting Jerry Eckhart. It was all pretty cool, and I
think he made a lot of friends at Slinger and
he's got some fans just from that one event that
he did so well, and so that'll be pretty cool
to have the kid go. All right, Dan, you got
it right last week by picking Kyle Larson. It doesn't
matter if we all agree. Okay, we can all agree
or we can all disagree, doesn't matter. I'm taking Kyle
(53:35):
Larson this.
Speaker 6 (53:35):
Week, Okay, but you bet on Bowman.
Speaker 3 (53:39):
Well that's a value pick.
Speaker 15 (53:41):
Dan.
Speaker 3 (53:42):
If I could have got thirty five to one on
Kyle Larson, I would have bet the whole farm on him,
But he was like six to one or something, and
six to one when you win is better than one
hundred to one when you lose. You know, all right, Brian,
you're next.
Speaker 4 (53:59):
I know he hasn't done anything since they've gone to
this new car, but he is super due to win
a race at Martinsville. So I'm gonna go with Denny
Hamlin so that everybody can boo him and then he
can have some snide remark and then we're gonna have
who bunch of stuff to talk about next week.
Speaker 3 (54:13):
PJ.
Speaker 5 (54:14):
I'm gonna go with Joey Logano.
Speaker 3 (54:17):
Hmm, a Ford at a traditional probably right, Yes, he would,
he does anyway, no matter what he does. All right, Dan, all.
Speaker 6 (54:27):
Right, I'm gonna go with the guys.
Speaker 7 (54:28):
Are gonna get cheered if he wins the other Henry
the car, not the one you bet on, but Chase Elliott.
Speaker 3 (54:33):
Yeah, and he's starting to be cheering for that. He
has track position, that's for sure. So we got a Ford,
a Toyota, and two ships.
Speaker 4 (54:42):
All right, Well, just Toby's in the room. I'm sorry,
he's picking Chris Busher since he starts six Ton, that
is correct.
Speaker 5 (54:49):
That's it's kind of his perennial pick.
Speaker 3 (54:51):
It's a kind of a go to kind of a thing. Huh.
Speaker 5 (54:54):
Well, it's because he really likes Mike Herman, his spotter.
Herman spots for Tie whenever they do stuff down.
Speaker 3 (54:59):
So a couple of years ago at the Vegas Race,
I went up and when Robbie Riser was still with Ralsh,
I went over to see Robbie and the things must
have been going pretty good, because he sure was in
a good mood. But he he introduced me to uh
Buscher and then when out of ear range for Busher,
(55:22):
he said to me, everybody at Ralsh absolutely loves the kid.
He is just so easy to work with, good racer.
Everything about him is I think he's solid there and
and it's it's a pretty neat thing, you know, when
everybody's behind. They weren't behind Robbie, but they were behind Busher.
Speaker 4 (55:42):
So when you look at the starting lineup and you
look at the very back of the field, there's two
names down there that probably will surprise you, the starting
thirty seventh and the sixty six car. Casey Mears. We
haven't seen him in I don't know when. When was
the last time today.
Speaker 6 (55:58):
I was at Casey is one and only when.
Speaker 4 (56:01):
Before COVID was probably the last time he ran a race, right, yeah?
Speaker 7 (56:04):
And then seven he won the six hundred week I
had was down there with friends. I didn't go to
many NASCAR races and we were in the Calisters Deli
there in the week and Casey Mears was in there
and I was like, that's one of the drivers. He's
been driving a race on Sunday and the guy's like,
how come nobody's bothering him.
Speaker 6 (56:17):
Because he doesn't win? And then he went out and
wonder six hundred.
Speaker 3 (56:20):
It's too bad.
Speaker 4 (56:21):
He's in a subpar machine there. And then the other
one starting thirty eight. Burt Myers remember that name. He
ran the uh gray, Yeah, he ran up Bowman Gray
and he's in the fifty cars that one of Rick
Where's pieces?
Speaker 3 (56:33):
I think maybe that he's in.
Speaker 4 (56:35):
Doesn't say exactly who owns that car, But those two
guys are going to be at the back. Unfortunately, we'll
probably only see them when they're getting lapped.
Speaker 3 (56:41):
Yeah. Back marker news is what we call that. Yeah.
But on top of it, big Casey mers last Cup
race was twenty nineteen. You weren't too far off? Whoever
said Dan? I think you did. Casey Mears his last
race was twenty nineteen, up before COVID. Then yeah, that's
cabinet thought, Yeah, so pretty cool. There are drivers that
(57:03):
need to have you know, I didn't mention that I
did bet on one other driver. You can't bet against
that eight car forever. He's gonna win eventually, right, we
all always gonna win. I did get thirty five to
one on Kyle Busch. Can you imagine at a short
track you have to pull your wallet out when you
(57:27):
see thirty five to one for Kyle Busch.
Speaker 4 (57:29):
For you would think, but those those children's cars just
aren't performing. Hey won yesterday, Austin Hill there, Yeah, their
Xfinity cars are great and you know what, if we
wouldn't have switched to this new car, they probably would
be all right. But it's it's yeah, I was there
one hundredth Xfinity win yesterday as well with I.
Speaker 6 (57:47):
Think it's a whole team there Fort too.
Speaker 7 (57:49):
I'm not sure that eight cars on the on the
same page as everybody on that team. They seem to
be making a lot of mistakes and taking themselves out
of some stuff too.
Speaker 3 (57:57):
By the way, Austin, yes, go ahead down, Yeah.
Speaker 7 (58:01):
I mean not from the driver's seat. I think that
you know, eight team's got some problems. I think the
driver's okay there. I think the whole team, you know,
it's a whole team deal right now to put a
race win together. And I think a lot of times
they put them behind a ball.
Speaker 3 (58:14):
Track House team is also behind a ball.
Speaker 4 (58:16):
You look where the those cars start today, Ross Chesstain
seventeenth not good, Shane van Gisberg in thirty third.
Speaker 3 (58:23):
Well as I was twenty. The transition for SVG to
Oval Treks is not going well, so keep that in
mind if you, like I thought he was going to
