The lt AT Hour.

Speaker 2 (00:10):
Let's talk Nascar with your host Todd bailing co hosts
Brian Schmidt, PJ. Newdleman, and producer Dangerous Dan Margetta. Call
the show anytime at four one four four two one
seventy nine oh one, and now the creator and host
of the Fastest Hour and Radio.

Speaker 3 (00:32):
Todd bailing Man, Welcome to the program. Happy Mother's Day
to all your moms out there. You're lucky enough to
still have a mom. Make sure you tell her you
love her today. Nice of you to join us here.
It's Kansas Sunday. I'm your host, Todd bailing in Milwaukee area.

(00:57):
There's two of us in the Milwaukee area. I'm in
Green Day. Brian's not in the Milwaukee area. He's over
in Utsburg, Wisconsin. I Brian morning.

Speaker 4 (01:05):
Yes, Happy Mother's Day to my mom, who I know
is not listening and my wife, who I know is
also not listening because she has her headphones on listening
to something else.

Speaker 5 (01:14):
But Happy Mother's Day anyway.

Speaker 3 (01:15):
Anyway is right, It's funny. Our far West coast co
host PJ. Moodleman over on the Mighty Mississippi High Hi.

Speaker 6 (01:29):
There, Yeah, Happy Mother's Day to everyone. My mom's actually
in church right now, which is probably where I should be.
But here I am, and of.

Speaker 3 (01:38):
Course the other Milwaukee area member of this program, our producer,
director and all around good guy camera guy Dan Margeta.

Speaker 7 (01:48):
Hey, good morning, Happy Mother's Day everybody, And it was
good to see Yeah last week. It's been since what November?
I think we're back in this sne area now, Yeah,
that's right.

Speaker 3 (01:57):
We at We were all at Madison at the same time,
and I never saw PJ. I couldn't talk to Dan
because he was working. I saw the back of Brian's
head because he wasn't answering his phone. And it wasn't
much of a reunion actually, But yes, you're right, we
were all in the same place at the same time.
Pretty cool stuff. We're racing at Kansas, one of those

(02:20):
cookie cutter tracks, Brian. This is the track that showcases this.

Speaker 4 (02:26):
New car, right correct, yep, the mile and a half's
and particularly this one. This one has had some really
good races since we've gone to this Gen seven car,
so expecting that today and hopefully hopefully they put on
a good show with it. I mean, we have a
stretch of him here. Last week was pretty good. This
week should be pretty good, and Charlotte has been really
good for these cars as well. So the month of

(02:47):
May is looking good for NASCAR, showcasing what the product
should be all the time.

Speaker 3 (02:53):
Kyle Larson kind of the default setting. I think at
this track. I don't know why he's so good at
mile and a half one hundred eighty three point seventy
three zero miles per hour went around that mile and
a half are at twenty nine three nine one. The
segments will be at lap eighty and one sixty five.

(03:14):
It is a two hundred and sixty seven lap race
that makes four hundred miles and the green It will
be on FS one today. You know, for everybody that
was so concerned about NASCAR is not on the big
network like Formula one and like Andy Cars, well it
doesn't really matter. They're going to be on FS one

(03:36):
today and they're still going to get the best ratings
of the weekend. The green flag is at two thirteen
Central time, perfect weather, seventies, zero percent chance of precipitation.
I mentioned those ratings, boil boy, they must be doing
high fives in Daytona after this. The Cup race was

(03:58):
the number one race on FF one yet with two
point million viewers. Formula One was on ABC and they
only got two point one. Then the Infinity Series is
next on c W got a million, less than a
million for the Indye Cars on the big network Fox

(04:21):
at nine hundred and fourteen thousand viewers. So NASCAR, they
you know, we complain about things with NASCAR, but the
bottom line is eyes on televisions and that seems to
be going pretty well. It doesn't always look like the
seats are all sold, but what's selling product is all

(04:42):
the people watching on TV and it's been going pretty
well on Fox.

Speaker 5 (04:47):
To remember, one more week for the also race next
week and that's it.

Speaker 4 (04:50):
Then we switched to prime for the five races that
they have, so see if we can hold it through
that prime section there when we're I'm at.

Speaker 7 (04:58):
No kidding, I think that one beat is a huge
because I mean, when when that Netflix documentary came out
for F one, it really took off and they had
a lot of you know, fans that like that. And
then here's our first US race at Miami, which used
to really draw well, and it seems like that kind
of you know, kind of runs course now and people
are going back to the stock cars, So I think
the beat Miami F one is a pretty big deal.

Speaker 5 (05:20):
And that's too.

Speaker 4 (05:21):
I mean, look at what you're watching. You're watching a parade,
when you're watching an F one race. It seems for sure,
you know, I mean, in the glitz and the glamour.
That's cool for a year or so, but then after
that it's like, well, you're seeing the same thing on
TV all the time and you're not a part of
the glitz and the glamour.

Speaker 5 (05:34):
So what's the what's the appeal?

Speaker 3 (05:36):
I guess, yeah, Well, I've thought that it's the technology
that's why we watch it. It's not because it's single
file racing for a whole well they've actually had some
fairly decent races, but I.

Speaker 8 (05:48):
Think it was the end thing to do, you know.

Speaker 7 (05:49):
I mean, the Netflix thing kind of showcase that that
that lifestyle and that way of racing, and I think
people just want to be a part of it, to
fit in and be cool and that like always, that
just runs it course eventually.

Speaker 3 (06:02):
Prime Network, which is what we're going to be watching
after next week. For a few reasons, I didn't even
realize that Marge ordered something on Amazon and clicked the
box for Prime, and so we had it for a
while and I didn't even realize it and is there

(06:25):
how much does that cost? That's the bottom line. I
don't even know what the hell I'm paying for it.
It's like fifteen bucks a month, isn't it.

Speaker 5 (06:31):
I don't know. My wife does that one.

Speaker 6 (06:33):
I actually did it too, but I do the annual thing.
So if you do monthly, it probably is a little
more expensive, but I think it does work out to
be about fifteen bucks a month.

Speaker 4 (06:43):
At first, I was confused because when you think of
Amazon Prime, you think of shopping.

Speaker 5 (06:47):
You don't think of watching TV. Right, Oh, a couple
of years ago.

Speaker 4 (06:50):
When you know the Thursday night football stuff moved over
to Prime, I'm like, well, what, that's the shopping cap,
not a TV app.

Speaker 3 (06:58):
So well, there's on there too, actually, but who would
have known. This isn't really a commercial for Amazon because
they don't really need to advertise much. But this Prime.
You buy it because you want to get everything shipped free.
That's what the deal is. Anything you buy on Amazon
gets shipped for free, but has a nice bonus. If

(07:22):
you take that free shipping thing, you get there streaming
service and there's some pretty damn good things to watch
on there, and not the least of which will be
NASCAR for five weeks this year with Dale Junior, right,
he will be the he'll be the star of Prime
Network this year.

Speaker 5 (07:41):
So starting with the Cooke six hundred, one of the
Crown Jewels.

Speaker 3 (07:45):
That's pretty awesome right there. So yeah, imagine that Prime
on streaming service. You should be able to watch it anywhere.

Speaker 6 (07:52):
It's not like it's it is fourteen ninety nine per
month or one thirty nine per year. If you do
the annual payment, it saves.

Speaker 3 (08:01):
A lot money. I guess, you know, I didn't realize
she did that because we don't order that much stuff
from Amazon here and there. You know something that I
can't find it wherever I'm shopping. But I thought it
doesn't cost fifteen bucks a ship at.

Speaker 4 (08:18):
Eighty dollars in savings there if you do annual over monthly's.

Speaker 3 (08:23):
I guess I'm going to have to do that because
it's not going away. It's once you get one of
those streaming services. I can't imagine getting rid of it
because it's you know, pretty damn good. So well, that's
that's where we're at anyway, And it's that time of

(08:43):
year for sure. Kansas is a perfect market for NASCAR,
middle of the country. The track is right off the
freeway on the Kansas side of Kansas City. It's a
major metro market and it's a good place for NASCAR too.

Speaker 8 (09:03):
The casino there too, isn't there?

Speaker 3 (09:04):
Oh that's right.

Speaker 4 (09:06):
I think that's what bought them their second date, Wasn't
it the casino? Because this track in Chicago are like
sister tracks. They built them both at the same time.
They both opened. Is it the two thousand and one season?

Speaker 5 (09:16):
I believe.

Speaker 4 (09:17):
I believe they're both being constructed at the exact same time,
and Chicago only had the one day, Kansas only on
the one date. And when they decided to build that
casino outside of there and put up the lights first
at Kansas, that's what got them the second date. Hollywood
Casino kind of sponsored it up area around it a lot.

Speaker 3 (09:34):
I should ask you this one with more time on
the clock. But do you think they're ever going to
race at that Chicago track again?

Speaker 5 (09:42):
If I had a bet, I would say in twenty
twenty six.

Speaker 3 (09:44):
Uh so, yes, that's good. In the know, We're glad
you're tuned in here on this Mother's Day weekend, We're
going to take a break and be back. Thanks for
tuning in.

Rest, Welcome back. Dan is the closest we have. He
speaks legal ease because he's uh his shirttail law enforcement
industry see, and he has seen many of these these
words that are used in court before, and I, of

(13:03):
course don't see it unless I'm watching something on television.
So Dan can tell us how the NASCAR and they
were in court this week. We knew it was coming
and it had to do with with this sole thing
with the charters and who said you can't have your
cake and eat it too, Dan.

Speaker 7 (13:25):
I think that was one of the judges on the panel.
This was This all goes back to the injunction that
the teams were awarded. I think it was in December
that the pretty much said that NASCAR had to treat
them as a chartered team even though they didn't sign
the agreement. I remember they had that hearing and they
said that was gonna have all this reparable harm if
we don't aren't allowed to compete as chartered teams because

(13:45):
our drivers could leave and sponsor contracts go away. Well,
the judge back then agreed and said, okay, they have
to treat you as a chartered car even though you
didn't sign the contract until this whole lowsuit is done.
NASCAR appealed that. They were like, hey, how can you
know you don't like the agreement, but you still want
to raise some of the agreement terms. It doesn't make
sense And that's kind of what the the hearing was

(14:06):
this time around. And apparently one of the judges on
the panel really really tested the team's lawyer and his
his reasoning was, how can you not want to race
on this agreement, but you still want to race under
the terms of this agreement. You can't have your cake
and eat it too. And that was kind of the
big quote that came out of the whole thing. So
we'll see when the decision comes. If this Court of
Appeals court, you know, denies that injunction and says, no,

(14:28):
we don't have to treat you as a chartered cards
You're gonna have to race his open cars until this
thing is done. That could have a big effect now
on the whole season and the harm that NASCAR brought in.
You know, the team said, well, we're who's our drivers,
We're gonna lose our sponsors. That's a harm. The real
harm we have here NASCAR's agreement was. The real harm
here is for the other thirteen teams that signed this agreement,
because that money would have been divided up amongst them,

(14:49):
and you're costing them money by not signing this agreement,
which they signed and went by the rules. So we'll
see how that comes. If they deny this injunction and
take it away and say that the twenty three, eleven
and from road teams have to race as open cars.
That can make a whole bunch of ripple effects of
this whole thing too. I mean, the whole lossuit isn't
done until until December. They strongly suggested that both sides,

(15:11):
you know, mediate and kind of get together maybe work
this out, and they both sides are open to it. Aloon,
NASCAR said, we're not going to rerite our agreement for
this either. I mean, well, they're gonna pretty hold hold
ground on their their stance. So we'll see what happens.
I mean, it's the longer goss not really good. But
if those cars have to compete as open cars and
don't get the benefits of the charger agreement that they

(15:31):
didn't sign, they can have some big effects too well.

Speaker 3 (15:35):
And my thought, Dan and the biggest issue that could
possibly happen with them with the biggest negative effect as
if NASCAR just says, if for some reason they're going
to lose this lawsuit, don't they just say, Okay, we're
doing away with charters. I don't care if you just
paid sixty million dollars for it, We're not using them anymore.

(15:56):
What are the chance that that actually.

Speaker 7 (15:58):
Happens, and it could happen, I mean, I guess that
that could happen. The thing about that is if you
do that, well, now you got the other thirteen teams
mad that sign us agreement and probably look for lawsuits
from all of them too.

Speaker 8 (16:09):
So I mean, NASCAR.

Speaker 3 (16:10):
Would love it if they all were in fighting, though,
wouldn't they.

Speaker 7 (16:14):
Well, And that's kind of what this is kind of
brought about. Whether they're trying to their argument is these
thirteen teams agreed to it. You two didn't. You know,
you're on your own here, and they're they're saying that
they went and they're trying to get benefits that they
didn't win in negotiations. You're trying to do it through
this lawsuit. And I can see that side too. Other
people see the team side. I see some of their

(16:35):
agreements too that they're I say that it is kind
of anti competitive, but it's kind of always been that way.
I don't know if that's a big thing I think
for them to prove in the big picture NASCAR.

Speaker 3 (16:45):
Yeah, I'm still amazed that they agreed to go to
the charter system in the first place, and like PJ
has brought up here, more than once, it's gotten away
from them, and I'm positive that they don't like seeing
these charters changing hands without them getting a slice of
the action, because what did they were just awarded in

(17:08):
the beginning, they didn't sell those did they correct them? Well?

Speaker 4 (17:16):
And if you think about it, I mean that's when
we were when we were thinking there's going to be
more bumping going on. We haven't had a bump in
a NASCAR race other than a five hundred since when.
I mean you have the Daytona five hundred that sometimes
has more than enough cars to fill the field, but
since then we don't. And that's what the charters were
all about, to secure your spot in every single race.

(17:37):
And then they and then when they realized they'd have
enough cars, then they change it to well, then the
first money was going to be distributed amongst the charter
cars more so than the non chartered cars.

Speaker 5 (17:45):
So they kind of been moving the thing along as
we do it.

Speaker 7 (17:49):
I think it came about because we had forty five
cars that show up at race two crowds that allays
go home, and they are all majorly sponsored cars, and
some of those sponsors are like, you know, why are
we throwing all this money if you guys can't make
a race, which I guess that's the teams probably got
to get better. And then also what it did is
it also when it came about on NASCAR side, it
kind of eliminated the starting parks. You know, we had

(18:09):
up to that going on too. Remember there were a
lot of cars that were just making the race. They
could qualify for two laps and g they'd run three
laps in park it and just take the money. And
that wasn't real good either.

Speaker 3 (18:18):
Yeah, bad, look all the way around. Now, the reason
there were only thirty six charters in the beginning because
if you'll remember, we had forty cars, actually we had
forty two cars start a race, plus was it two
regular provisionals and one champion, making it forty three. And
then when they raced out West, they had another provisional

(18:39):
for the NASCAR Winston West champion. Maybe, so there was
a total of forty four when they raced in Phoenix
at those in those days. But so now they're at
thirty six and you think, well, why wouldn't they make
it forty and maybe could have more cars. We find
out last year late last year that they saved four

(18:59):
charters in case there is another manufacturer. So NASCAR has
four more charters they could award, but now that they're
watching all this money change hands, maybe they're thinking, maybe
we should sell these extra four charters because why wouldn't
we want another two hundred million for selling them for
fifty million apiece. It's very It's a slippery slope, I think,

(19:23):
isn't it. Guys?

Speaker 8 (19:25):
Yeah, I think it is.

Speaker 7 (19:26):
I mean, if this thing it hasn't gone terribly bad yet,
but I mean if it the longer it goes, it
out being resolved and it gets real bad. I mean, united,
we stand, divided, we fall. I mean, just ask Indy
card that. I mean, they learned that back in the nineties,
you know, and look how long it took to get
away from that and to actually recover from that. So
hopefully people staw their eyes in the big picture and

(19:47):
realize how bad it could get. But you know, when
you get wrapped up and these things, and the longer
it goes and the more animosity that comes to think
both sides, I think it becomes more you lose sight
of that big picture and you just want to win, right.

Speaker 6 (20:00):
It becomes almost like a tally whacker measuring contest, and
everyone wants to give up, and.

Speaker 3 (20:05):
Neither one wants to say you're Okay, you win, We're
gonna sneak away for a break and be back hanging

Yeah, during the break, we were just chatting about and
I never asked the entire team here if who has degrees.
I never went to college. I went to the School
of hard Knock, Hamilton, Milwaukee, Hamilton High School. Broadcasting is
what I did. But so Dan, I mentioned that you're

(23:08):
the one with the degree here, but apparently we all
have one. Yours is in communication right.

Speaker 7 (23:15):
Right, Yeah, Bacher's and Communications broadcasting from University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee.
I skipped my graduation. It was in May of ninety two.
I did this radio show from Milwaukee mile at the
ASA Race and we watched that, and I think one
of our commencement speakers was Alan Kliki at the time too,
so I skipped it.

Speaker 3 (23:32):
Oh god, wow, Oh that's funny. And PJ, Now you
do have a degree and what communications do yep?

Speaker 6 (23:39):
Mine is in communications as well, emphasis with broadcast. And
I started at UTEP University of Texas, El Paso, transferred,
took a couple of years off, finished it up at
Winona State University, just across the border from where I
live here in trampalo And I too skipped the graduation ceremony.
I think I was actually at a lacrosse speedway the

(24:03):
night of the day that we were doing a graduation.

Speaker 3 (24:07):
That's funny.

Speaker 7 (24:08):
And went up there and I said, you know, you
had to pay for the cap and gown and the
piece of paper that it was on, and like I
still hear, I don't need to do that.

Speaker 8 (24:15):
I'm going with the raise.

Speaker 6 (24:17):
That's kind of my thought too, like I reready paid enough.

Speaker 3 (24:19):
I love it. And Brian, you went to m A.
I did go for some m ATC, but you actually
got a degree from there.

Speaker 4 (24:27):
Yeah, associate's degree at m ATC and mekwand and uh.
I think our graduation was around Christmas time or something,
so I didn't go to that either. Spent enough money.

Speaker 3 (24:35):
There, nobody walked across the stage and waved to their
screaming family. Well, that's awesome. If you would like to
participate in this program, you can do so. You don't
need a degree to do it, obviously, because I'm still
sitting here four one four four two one seventy nine
oh one, and you can give us your take on

(24:59):
any of these issues. The lawsuit, what's happened with the television,
and why it is that NASCAR is just standing up
and beating their chest these days. It's pretty awesome. The
news came out this week and it was one of
those deals NASCAR likes to float the rumor first and

(25:19):
then come out with it later. That the championship race
this year at Phoenix, and it's going to take it
looks like at least one year, probably more years off,
because in twenty six it's going back to Miami Homestead.
I would say personally that the race at Phoenix is
not as good as it was in Miami, but I

(25:41):
think that the crowd and the market is much better
in Phoenix than it is in Miami. But as we
also mentioned earlier, it's about the television and the racing
is so far superior. At Homestead it seems to me.
But the question is is there going to be a

(26:02):
three or maybe four race rotation and if so, where
would that be. This week we saw Las Vegas floated
out there. I guess that would be good. A lot
of people like to go fly out, have an excuse
the flight of it. Let's go to Vegas run a
championship race. But will it be three or what? Do

(26:25):
you guys think more than three?

Speaker 4 (26:27):
Well, I mean it's does NASCAR wana completely? I wouldn't
say completely, but do they want to give up having
it at one of their tracks? So you have the
I C tracks and you have the SMI tracks. The
only is C tracks that can really host it our
Phoenix in Miami, where it's been for the last twenty
plus years. SMI track would be Vegas. And the only

(26:48):
other possibility weather wise would probably be Texas, which Texas
was terrible for many years and it's actually been pretty
decent last couple of years. Atlanta's down there, but Atlanta
would be one of those you know what we used
to call restrict or plate races or drafting tracks. I
don't think you want to have your championship race there.
And if you did, and if you did, then why

(27:09):
wouldn't you have it at Daytona where you know you're
in Florida and you have good weather as well, which
they have all said they're never going to do that.

Speaker 3 (27:15):
So they've had it at Atlanta many times in the past.
That's why before it was a drafting track. You know,
we turned it into a drafting track a couple of
years ago, So that would be my thought would be
it was would be you know those I would think
it would be a three race, a three track rotation
would be what I would think is probably more most
likely to happen. You're gonna have Phoenix, Vegas and Homestead

(27:37):
and you're gonna rotate it amongst their NASCAR will get
two of them, and then sm I will get one
every now and then.

Speaker 4 (27:42):
If I was a betting man, that's what I would
I would think it would be. But the fact they
announced that this early gives them time to do a
lot of work to Homestead to get it to championship level.
I mean, those facilities have been pretty neglected and instead
said in that that you know they want to, you know,
get the the pit area thing done so that you know,
fans will have some access to that and get the

(28:02):
stands better, you know, and get the place spruced up
so that it looks like a championship caliber facility party
on a year and a half.

Speaker 8 (28:11):
You gotta have the city behind it.

Speaker 7 (28:12):
I mean, Phoenix really got behind that Championship brace and
really did help promote it, whereas in the past Miami
was originally part of it and then they kind of
faded away and they didn't have a big deal.

Speaker 8 (28:21):
I think you got it.

Speaker 7 (28:22):
They said they were going to do it, and now
it's time for them to put up and say, Okay,
you got it in twenty six or you got Fort Lauderdale,
he got Miami. It's a huge area there and you
can do a lot of cool things. If they go
I'll get behind it.

Speaker 4 (28:32):
I liked the idea go ahead, and that was as
during that press release, you know, has the city has
homestat er the Miami Visitors Bureau pointed up and said,
you know, because Phoenix pay is NASCAR to host it.
Ask them if that's happened. They say, those discussions are
still ongoing. So they're going ahead and committing to this
NASCAR is without getting the money back from the from

(28:53):
the locals yet, so I don't know inter I.

Speaker 6 (28:57):
Do like the idea of it though, moving around. I
think that that's going to keep a little fresh face
on things too.

Speaker 3 (29:04):
It will, and the market does make a big deal.
Atlanta is a big city, but of course this is
a good I don't know, forty minutes south, not that
that's a big deal. You know that that's close enough
to the big city Texas would make a lot of sense.
Although you know, we're talking November in the Dallas Cowboys

(29:26):
a rot there and everybody think, you know, that's a
pretty big deal in those parts. So if there was
happened to be a Cowboys home game, they wouldn't. I
think it would be embarrassing. Maybe they have a championship race.

Speaker 7 (29:39):
Well, Dolphins had home games during the Homesta weekends and
it actually wasn't. Sometimes the nascarries out drew them. I
went to a couple of those games, and they played
on a Thursday night. But there were times where there's
a Dolphins home game on that Sunday of the championship.

Speaker 3 (29:52):
Praise and the Cardinals at a home game this year, right,
and it did not effect The track still sold in Phoenix,
even though there.

Speaker 5 (30:02):
Was and you can look at the venue size too.

Speaker 4 (30:04):
Phoenix is considerably smaller seating capacity than some of these
other venues. You know, I think Phoenix is like capacity
of what forty eight four? Yeah, I mean Texas, that's huge.
Homestead was. I don't know what it's going to look
like when they finally get down to this. You know,
Vegas used to be really big, and they kind of
change that too, because I think NASCAR wants the look

(30:25):
of a big event, and if you have empty seats
that's not a good look for your championship event, and
they haven't had that at Phoenix since they've gone there.

Speaker 5 (30:32):
That was the problem at Homestead.

Speaker 3 (30:33):
Now Vegas would be as I think, it's a slam dunk.
It's a perfect track, it's a great market. Everybody goes there.
It's it's one of those places it's a must see.
Then you wean't be back.

Speaker 9 (30:48):
If you've spent enough time with yard work and dardening

Speaker 3 (33:19):
Welcome back the UH Kansas Racetrack. They've been racing this weekend.
We didn't have Exfinity for one reason or another, but
we did have ARCA and the trucks race there. UH
pj Old butter Bean was your winner in the UH.

Speaker 6 (33:39):
In the race, yeah, William Swallach was second, but I
don't know if Brendan Queen was confident that he was
going to get it done. It was just about ready
to take that checkered flag, UH.

Speaker 5 (33:51):
And the air of the white flag.

Speaker 6 (33:53):
Anyway, when the caution came out the sky, Tim Beans,
I think that's how you say his name. Anyway, he
spun out, had the air take off his off of
his spoiler, he spun around, and then that threw the
caution out. So it was just like a one lap shootout,
and obviously that could have become a cluster real quick.
But he ended up holding off, holding off William Sewell.

(34:15):
I was gonna say, Willy, so willy, Willy's so willy there, Willy,
so willy, But he held him off and got the win.
And that's a popular win. Brandon's developed quite a following
running through the late model stock cars, and he's just
a popular guy.

Speaker 18 (34:28):
So it was it was a popular win for the people.
A name like Butterbean doesn't hurt either, this is true.
And then everybody's favorite driver, Caution Wholesovar one, the second
place car, Lane Rigs as Wholesar one, the thing he

(34:48):
apparently he whipped off Lane Rigs. I guess, but Riggs
ended up getting d qed. My god, there's a lot
of d qing going on.

Speaker 5 (34:57):
You hear what a d Q was for?

Speaker 8 (34:59):
Oh?

Speaker 4 (34:59):
Here, here's the technical terms. It's rule fourteen point four
point nine point a point three. Bed cover material must
be strong enough to prevent the cover from deflecting or sagging,
and must be sealed around the perimeter of all bed
panels while the vehicle is in competition.

Speaker 3 (35:16):
So the bed wasn't it didn't It allowed air to
move through or something or something.

Speaker 6 (35:21):
Yeah, it maybe could have even pushed up or down
or whatever and allowed for a better airflow to hit
the spoiler.

Speaker 16 (35:29):
I don't know.

Speaker 3 (35:31):
That was a spire truck now? Is that that's all rented?
I mean the truck itself. Is a Hendrick truck, isn't it?
Or is it Dan? I don't know.

Speaker 7 (35:40):
I can't remember there was an alliance or something with Hendrick,
wasn't it. I mean it's the Spires truck. They have
a couple of them now, they have and they probably
leased the crew on the seven and seventy one. They
got three of them, right, yeah, yeah.

Speaker 5 (35:52):
Yeah, Spire.

Speaker 4 (35:53):
So that's that's first time in a while they actually
had a Spire driver from the Cup Series driving one
of their Spire trucks. Otherwise it's been for the majority
of the season Hendrick guys that have been in him.

Speaker 3 (36:04):
So naturally, the first thing that enters my mind when
I hear Carson Joslvar won a truck races. What happened
to time of Jeski PJ. You want to fill us
in there a little bit.

Speaker 6 (36:15):
Well, it was a first lap, let's win it on
the first lap kind of moved by a lot of
the people in the field, and Ben Rhodes kind of
went down, made it three wide and Tie was right
in the middle, and I don't know why Carson came
down more and ended up cutting Tis tire, so he
had to pit and went a lap down and then

(36:38):
ended up getting another tire cut, so he was like
two sets of tires down to everybody else's tire sets,
which was why every time he was running fast laps
looking good. By the end of the race, he was
still out of less. He had less tires to work
with than everybody else at that point, so it was
just kind of from bad tours.

Speaker 19 (36:56):
From a lap one. Luke fenn House was not there,
Noluke Baldwin. Baldwin, Yeah, that's it, And I don't know
there were issues that I didn't really see what all
the issues were, but all of the trucks from Tye's
team got whacked pretty good before the race. They lost

(37:21):
car chiefs because they failed twice.

Speaker 3 (37:23):
Failed inspection twice.

Speaker 6 (37:25):
Yeah, and that means that they all lost their truck chiefs,
and the truck chiefs are also ejected for the remainder
of the weekend, and then each of the teams, which
are Majeski, Ben Rhodes and Matt crafton are going to
lose pit selection for this next event for the truck Series.

(37:46):
The twenty six truck also had the same situation happening
there too, so yeah, that's.

Speaker 3 (37:52):
Kind of It's amazing to me. What NASCAR isn't looking
at these trucks any harder? Are they just being? Is
everybody being just a little lax and just letting things
go and think that should be good enough, and then
later they can't they find out, oh geez, I guess
that wasn't just good enough.

Speaker 7 (38:11):
I think everybody's trying things that they've always done, stuff
like that, and I think word gets around, hey, maybe
you want to check maybe check this out, and then
we look at it and suddenly if there's a multiple
trucks that had the same issuell okay, it looks like
we caught something that people have been trying to push
through in the past.

Speaker 8 (38:25):
I think a lot of it comes from word of mouth.

Speaker 6 (38:27):
Yes, I would agree with that, because you'll have people
sniping around in the pits, just kind of nosing and
trying to see what they can throw. It's no different
than a short track. You got people staring the pot,
trying to see if they can get somebody in trouble, and.

Speaker 3 (38:41):
Attention to more than just their own car. There have
been three Cup DQ's, two Exfinity DQ's, and two truck equus.
It has already tied the record for most overall dqus
in a single NASCAR season, if you can believe that.
And here we are, you know, at Kansas, we're not
even to a Memorial Day weekend, yet we're already hitting

(39:04):
that record. So unbelievable. I guess we're just if if
you're not sure if this is legal, maybe you want
to check on it and fix it before you go
out onto the racetrack. I don't know.

Speaker 7 (39:19):
It's the fast and they used to do like five
or six things, right, and you hope they caught four
of them so you got two buy. I mean, it's
that kind of way it always worked.

Speaker 3 (39:27):
Yeah, you're not wrong, Dan, It's been a it's been
a sleight of hand for so many years that the creativity,
you know, that's the thing I miss about it. There
was creativity in cheating before, and you've just snatched that
away from these people completely. And he said, Wow, there's
nothing wrong with having a race where everybody's an equal equipment,

(39:50):
is it? You know?

Speaker 6 (39:51):
Well, and that goes back to what we talked about
last week too with the All Star Race, how they
were trying to offer it to be kind of a
no holds bar to bring whatever you want but again,
be careful what you wish for, because then if they
do offer it. That was actually probably part of the
reason why NASCAR decided to offer it too, to kind
of shut up all the naysayers that are like, oh,
back in the day, we used to get to try

(40:12):
things and it was you know, so here they're offering
them a chance to do it. But financially it didn't
make sense. But conversely, it would have been an opportunity
to be able to try some stuff.

Speaker 3 (40:22):

You can tell we're getting closer to the summer here
as we have racing almost every single day of the week.
Now on the dirt side, we'll start Tuesday night Lasal, Illinois.
The Lasal Speedway opened back up for the first time
since I believe twenty twenty one. Flow Castrol Castrol Flow
Late Model Night in America. Was there twenty thousand dollars
to win for the superlights. Bobby Pierce was your winner
and the modifieds went to Michael Ladford huge crowd on

(43:17):
a Tuesday night. There anybody that watched that on Flow
that was pretty impressive and cool to see a track
open back up again. The Flow people moved down to Banner,
Illinois the Spoon River Speedway Wednesday night for another twenty
thousand dollars to win.

Speaker 5 (43:29):
Jonathan Davenport picked up the win.

Speaker 4 (43:31):
The modifieds went to Cole Falloway Abbastown, Pennsylvania on Wednesday
at the Lincoln Speedway for the World of out Law
Noss Energy Drink spint Car series, but he Cofoyd picked
up the win there. Thursday night, the Flow guys went
to Lincoln, Illinois for another twenty thousand dollars to win.
For the Super Elates, Devin Moran was your winner and
the modifieds went to Drake Troutman Friday night, a full
gamut of racing. Finally, the weather cooperated around Wisconsin Chilton

(43:54):
Gravity Park and the modifieds it was Jeff Yankee Grand Nationals,
Jeff Richards Stock cars was Tyler Wilson Lux and opened
up Friday night, and the modifieds was Tony wedelstat Stock
Cars was Benji Lacrosse. Seymour had their opener. The Outagamy
County Speedway. The late models went to Taylor Scheffler, IMSA Modds,
Johnny Whitman and stock cars Nick Bakarma, Menominee. The Red
Cedar Speedway had their opener Friday night. The WASS Soda

(44:15):

The Lafayette County Speedway their season opener and the modified's
Grant manthe in the limited lates was DJ Sweet Down
in Bloomington, Indiana. The USAK Amazona National Sprint cards were there.
Kyle Cummings was your winner. Kansas City, Kansas. Right outside
the Kansas Speedway where the Cup Series is today is
the Lakeside Speedway and the high limit sprint cars were there.

Speaker 5 (44:37):
Rico Abrew grabbed the win there. Friday Night. Farmer City, Illinois.

Speaker 4 (44:40):
Friday Night Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series twenty five
thousand dollars to win.

Speaker 5 (44:43):
Ricky Thornton Junior grabbed the win there.

Speaker 4 (44:46):
Last night, Dan and I went to Plymouth for the
Super six Late Model season opener. There, Mike Mullen was
your winner. The MSA three sixties went to Joseph Hins.
That was a really good race. And the Dirt Devil
Grand national Series. Brad Miller put on this Dirt Devil
thing if you remember back in the nineties, for those
of you that remember that, they had this thing. Dirt
Devil was the sponsor the old vacuum cleaner's Kenny Wallace
had on the side of his car. Did the Grand Nationals.

(45:08):
Brad's kind of bringing that back to get the Grand
Nationals back. Thirty nine of them showed up last night
for that and Brian Gillis picked up the win. Dan
pretty good racing at Plymouth, would say, even though it
was a little chilly.

Speaker 8 (45:17):
Yeah, I thought it was.

Speaker 7 (45:18):
Yeah, the win was kind of interface, but the racing
was pretty cool on the race track, and Mullins had
them covered in the late models, and I agree with
that sprint car race that the kid was like fifteen
years old.

Speaker 8 (45:27):
He won that deal.

Speaker 7 (45:27):
And even in the in the Grand Nationals and they
had a pretty good deal. And in the Mods, I mean,
everybody put on pretty good good races all throughout.

Speaker 5 (45:34):
Yeah, a good good night at Plymouth.

Speaker 4 (45:36):
Francis Kreik the one forty one speed away last night
in the IMCA Modifieds race. Van Pay was your winner,
and the stock cars went to Tyler Wilson will Mott.
The winged six or fours where the headliner Greg Olsen
was your winner, and the modifieds went to Joehunefeld Shano.
Last night the late models, Andy Carl was your winner,
modifieds Tanner Yankee, and the stock cars was Jeremy Christians
Rice Lake. That was Sota modified. Blake Adams was your winner.

(45:57):
I think that's the second winner of the year. For
Buzzy's Kid Sycamore, Illinois. The IRIS Sprints were down there.
Paul Knieheiser was your winner. In the Badger Midgets, Parker
Jones picked up the win, started fifteenth and won that
Badger Midget feature last night at Sycamore. Who says they
can't pass on the dirt Fairbury, Illinois, Lucas Oilate Model
Dirt Series thirty thousand dollars to win. Jonathan Davenport, sixth
place starter picked up the win and that one in

(46:17):
the thirty thousand dollars U and P mods went to
Drake Troutman Hobstot, Indiana. The Tri State Speedway, the USAC
Amazela National Sprint Cars. Kyle Cummins made it two for
two on the weekend Knoxville in the four to tenth sprints,
Brian Brown was your winner. Tasker Phillips in the three sixties,
Granite City, Illinois the Tri City Speedway for the high
limit sprint cars. Corey Day was your winner. And finally Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania,
the Williams Grove Speedway for the world out lawns and

(46:39):
during sprint car series. They lost Friday night due to rain,
so only ran one night last night and the Pennsylvania
Posse's Anthony Macree picked up the win there.

Speaker 5 (46:46):
And that is everything for this week. When it doesn't rain,
you get a lot of racing and that's what we had.

Speaker 6 (46:51):
A right over onto the asphalt side of things. Last
Sunday at Madison International Speedway for the Joe Shar Classic.

Speaker 15 (46:57):
CA. C.

Speaker 6 (46:58):
Johnson was your winner in that ASA Midwest Tour event.

Speaker 3 (47:01):
Great race that was, wasn't it.

Speaker 6 (47:04):
You know what I love seeing the most whenever Casey
Johnson wins are his girls. They're just sitay and cute
and excited when their dad gets in victory lane.

Speaker 5 (47:12):
I love it.

Speaker 3 (47:13):
The game Summers put on a show with that race.
I saw to got it it was classic racing between
two absolutely outstanding race car drivers and what a show
they put on and they didn't wreck each other.

Speaker 5 (47:27):
A weird love.

Speaker 3 (47:28):
It's so weird.

Speaker 6 (47:30):
Midwest Truck Series also ran as part of the weekend.
Put on a good race there as well. E Gene
Gregorich the third picking up the wind there by the way,
that was a Toby truck Golden Sands. They were in
action firing up for the first time. On Friday night
Super Late Model Winter was Travis Volme and then last
night Marshfield Motor Speedway Super Late Model Feature Winter Brazen

(47:52):
Bennett believe he was in the Gene Coleman car. Grundy
County was also running. Ricky Baker was your super Late
Model winner. Jefferson Speedway Late Model Feature winner was Evan Hassler.
Dell's Raceway Park Late Model Feature winner Jacob Gaty driving
down from Minnesota. He'll be running both at Lacrosse and
the Dell's.

Speaker 3 (48:12):
Because that's a NASCAR points deal right.

Speaker 6 (48:15):
Exactly, so that should be an exciting thing for him
to go after again. Six O two's were also running
at Dell's and John Lemke was your winner there. Next
weekend we're going to finally be at pretty much full
song for all the tracks in the Midwest Lacrosse or
Wisconsin area running. We'll have Thomas Sparta Speedway, they'll have

(48:35):
the CWRA super Late Models running on Friday night. Lacrosse
Speedway fires into action for their opener at two o'clock
next Saturday, and then of course Slinger will be back
in action next Sunday in the afternoon as well.

Speaker 3 (48:49):
Two pm next Sunday. And if you didn't catch it
this week, Slinger announced that Flow is going to be
streaming their races this year. They're gonna do everything with
the exception of the ASA race. They have their own deal.
Who does ASA races? Dan is that track team, Okay,
but that's kind of a big deal. Flows the number

(49:11):
clear number one, especially for paved track racing streaming service,
and they're gonna have Slinger on there now. By the way,
they've been practicing at Slinger Speedway. And this year there's
gonna be a new tire And if you don't think
tires make a big difference. The track record eleven O

(49:33):
nine to five, which has stood for thirty years. Tony
Strup is the one that did it. Right after the
track was repaved in nineteen ninety four, was beat by
four to one hundredths of a second unofficially by Johnny Diangelis.
And my question is it's gonna be You know it's coming.

(49:57):
If you're gonna you're at eleven oh four, we are
going to see a car, at least one, probably more
in the tens this year. Who's gonna be the first
one to go into the tens at Slinger Speedway? And
keep in mind, you know when the track record was
beat by Tony Strupp, Dan, I know you were probably

(50:20):
up there and I don't remember for sure, but I
think it was broken by five or six guys the
first night, wasn't it? Yeah?

Speaker 7 (50:28):
It was and in the eleven oh and then the
big thing was can anybody getting the tens? And we
thought it was coming and it took thirty years and
no one has yet.

Speaker 3 (50:35):
Well I just can't help but think it's gonna happen
this year. And it all gets underway next Sunday afternoon
at two o'clock at Slander Speedway. So it'll be a fun,
fun place to go. We're gonna sneak away for breaking
be Back Miller Sales and Service of Random Lake is

The Doug Gottlieb Show.

Speaker 1 (52:57):
Okay, let's start with this.

Speaker 21 (53:00):
Farley nailed at gott I do feel like people wanted
Rory to win. He hadn't reached like Phil level of
popularity that he misses uput at eighteen. Then the second
time around in eighteen he hits a birdie Like, is
he now clutch? I'm just struggling with what is clutch
and what is not.

Speaker 15 (53:18):
Clutching The Doug Gottlieb Show. The Doug Gottlieb Show too
on Fox Sports.

Speaker 3 (53:29):
Well, I have to admit not a one of us
picked Joey Logano last week. That was pretty interesting that
he comes off as d Q and comes right back
and wins. I've said in the past that I think
these Mile and a half it's the default setting is
Kyle Larson. But I'm going to wait and listen to
my three teammates here and see who they're all going

(53:51):
to pick before I make my choice. Let's let's start
with Dan. Who are you looking at? Bud?

Speaker 7 (53:57):
I'm gonna go kind of out on the limb that
maybe not because he runs go to Kansas a lot.

Speaker 3 (54:01):
I'm gonna go Toby's favorite driver, Chris Pusher starting second.
That's not a stretch at all, all right, Brian.

Speaker 5 (54:10):
Go with the forty five Tyler Reddick.

Speaker 3 (54:12):
Oh, all right, PJ. Well, Ryan Blaney, really, you guys
leave me. Kyle Larson, it's too easy. I say that,
and then they go, you know, he's funny. He says, Yeah,
it could be a good race until something makes it

(54:33):
boring and then they're going to be crying again and
we're going to see how this race actually goes. So yeah,
I'll go with the five car. Thank you for for
making it easy for me. As we mentioned, this is
uh is this the last week for Fox or is
it at Wilkesboro next week?

Speaker 5 (54:53):
Brian, Wilkesboro next week for the All Star weekend.

Speaker 3 (54:55):
A big week this week at wilkesbur On.

Speaker 4 (54:58):
Yeah, a lot of series are running there, which they've
done in the past. A couple years ago, the Stars
Tour was there. This year, it's like a four day
event that wilkes borrow the cars tours there with both
their pro late models and their late model stocks. Yeah,
the pro Late Models will run a race seven o'clock
and I believe you could see all those on Flow.
Thursday night, the Cars Pro Tour is there, and then

(55:19):
on for Friday night, the Cars Late Model Stock Tour
is there, one hundred lapper in the evening, so you
can see both of those on Flow. Cup Series takes
to the track there already on Friday, so they have
some practice and some qualifying stuff going on for both
the Open and the All Star guys, and then you

(55:40):
have the Truck Series. It's a one day show there
for them, so they're doing everything on Saturday. They're practicing
at like nine to thirty in the morning, qualifying after that,
and their races at one thirty. So full week, and
then you have the heat races for the Cup Series
Saturday night, two sixty lap heat races, and then the
main event on Sunday night next week, so it's lot.

Speaker 3 (56:01):
We will not interfere with slinger no.

Speaker 4 (56:04):
And the modified too that so the NASCAR willen Modified
tours there on Sunday during the day you can see
on Flow as well, so they're running like ten o'clock
in the morning and then their feature event is at
two o'clock Eastern time on Sunday. So for the people
that are going to Wilkesboro, You're gonna see a lot
of racing. Let's just hope the Cup Series can finally
have a good race there. We have not had one
there yet, so let's see if we can get it done.

Speaker 3 (56:23):
Yeah, and you know, they put a lot of money
into this place. Are they going to continue to make
this the the All Star event for the long run?
I just can't imagine putting that of money into a
place and leaving it there. And then you have a
you have smaller fields so you don't get the lap
traffic thing. I mean, when you put all thirty six
cars out there, maybe that would make for some better racing.

Speaker 4 (56:46):
We have yet to see that because you have the
limited fields with the open and the actual All Star
race itself where you only have you know, twenty some
cars out there.

Speaker 5 (56:53):
So I don't know. We'll see what happens.

Speaker 7 (56:56):
Wolkesboro though, I mean, I think it's a neat place
to run. Yeah, absolute other When the Cup Series ran there,
it was cool. It was so you know, small town
fields kind of neat. We drove all night on Thursday
night to get there and we got the right before
Cup qualifying and then the school kids got let up
early that data thing all go watch Cup qualifying.

Speaker 8 (57:13):
This is really cool town and they really into this
race and stuff.

Speaker 3 (57:16):
Yeah, Jors Junior Johnson's place was close by. Ronda, North
Carolina was close by, so since we were visiting the
track and Enoch Staley came out of his house when
he saw us nosing around. There was no race going on.
We were just looking.

Speaker 4 (57:30):
You know, I'd like to see the Exfinity cars there
too in the future. Would be nice to see what
kind of a show they could put on there. Yeah, no, kid,
they did a really good job at Rockingham and put
on a heck of a show. So if we're going
to recoup some of these tracks, you know, get the
other series there as well, and let's see what they
can do there.

Speaker 3 (57:45):
Is when Junior Johnson was married to Flossie before he
switched wives, so he could have an air to the throne,
so that when you talk about the days, that was
a chicken farm is what it was.

Speaker 8 (57:57):
And it had a bunch because then have a big
breakfast there.

Speaker 3 (58:00):
Yeah, and the word was you could just walk in
the house and Flossi would put food in front of
you no matter who it was. Can you imagine not anymore.
They probably have armed guards walking around the well. Amazingly enough,
we're getting ready. Kansas will get one of those one
point fives. It should be a really good race today.

(58:21):
The green flag is at two thirteen, and it's perfect weather,
and it's a good day for a good race. We'll
see it. Thanks to everybody for tuning in. This Kansas
thing has got me all fired up. It's going to
be fun to watch. I want everybody to remember that
