Speaker 1 (00:09):
The lt N Hour.
Speaker 2 (00:10):
Let's talk NASCAR with your host Todd Bayling, co hosts
Brian Schmidt, PJ. Newedleman, and producer Dangerous Dan Margetta. Call
the show anytime at four one four four two one
seventy nine oh one. And now the creator and host
of the fastest hour in radio, Todd.
Speaker 1 (00:33):
Bailing, Welcome to the program. Great to have you along.
As the NASCAR series as there. Well, it's not really
a week off, isn't it. It's the All Star Race
at North Wolksproitz. It's a week off from points. That's
really what we wanted right now. We also want to
have a really good, tight racing on a short track
(00:56):
that's taken a twenty million dollar tax pay or upgrade
to put on the map again after being gone for
thirty five years. Great to have you with us, Todd
Bailing and Greendale, Wisconsin. My three partners spread all over
the place, starting with Brian Schmidt, who's not only in Utzburg,
but he's been traveling this weekend too.
Speaker 3 (01:18):
Yeah, saw some racing yesterday a Kakana boy. It's warm
all week and then on the weekends the wind blows
and it's kind of chilly. But we survived it and
watched the Tundra Series open their season yesterday.
Speaker 1 (01:29):
PJ. Neudleman on the other side of the state over
there High peag.
Speaker 4 (01:33):
Hey, Hey, excited for I guess what could be an
exciting race when Wilkesboro has had some pretty big action
already this weekend.
Speaker 1 (01:43):
Yeah, but what we really need to do is cross
our fingers that we have more than one leader. Dan Margetta,
who is of all places on the roof at Slinger
already where they're getting ready to start the season today
for the Super Late Models. The regular points are getting
under way today, Dan.
Speaker 5 (02:01):
Hey, how's it going. Yeah, doing a show outdoors for
a change. I have my third race of the week,
and I was at the NHRA Drag Racing qualifying and
Julietta on Fridays with Brian yesterday at Kakata. Now we're
at Slayer for their opener.
Speaker 1 (02:13):
How do you do it?
Speaker 2 (02:15):
You?
Speaker 1 (02:16):
Whatever job you have with the with South Milwaukee, I
think I would want that job just to have off
as much as you do.
Speaker 5 (02:23):
It's called using your vacation days to go to races.
Speaker 1 (02:26):
Uh, you need a logistics expert just to get it
figured out. Either way, Dan is as busy a guy
as there is, and not just that. Today, not only
Slinger Speedway, but Dan Margetta will be making his Flow debut,
the arguably the number one streaming service for racing anyway
(02:46):
in the country. Seems like to me? Is that my imagination?
Speaker 6 (02:50):
No, they're they're pretty big.
Speaker 5 (02:51):
Astart was working with them this week at Anything Ready
for the first week here at Slanger with them. We
did some testing on Wednesday. We had some changes to make.
That's all up here early today. Everiling's working looking good,
So we're upure early, ready to go and do radio
and watch in great racing.
Speaker 1 (03:04):
And if you're thinking of heading over to Slinger Speedway,
and you should be thinking of it. The Super Late
Models and the rest of the gang get underway at
two o'clock this afternoon, so it's the last afternoon race.
There was only two, I guess this year we've had
first meeting.
Speaker 3 (03:21):
You can watch that and then you can watch the
All Star Race because that's a night race today.
Speaker 1 (03:25):
Yes, as a matter of fact, the FS one coverage.
Let's see the first green flag which is for the
Open where they come up with the first and second
place cars which will transfer to the Big show, being
the twenty first and twenty second car to be in
the show from the rear, so you won't have to
worry about whether they actually have a chance to win
(03:47):
or not. That will green flag that thing at four
thirty eight this afternoon, and then the All Star Race itself,
it's a two hundred and fifty lapper, will get underway
at seven fourteen this evening. You will be home by
then if you're going to slinger, so you'll be able
to watch it tonight. Pretty cool. The forecast for the
(04:09):
Greater Metropolitan North Wilkesboro area is eighties with a ten
percent chance of rain, so they're going to get it in.
It will be televised on FS one, and it's the
last Fox coverage of the year for NASCAR. We go
to streaming starting next week. Amazon Prime will take over.
(04:33):
If you want to watch the six hundred next week,
I would assume by now you've known this, but you're
gonna have to get Amazon Prime, either available in monthly
or yearly increments. In fact, this morning, as I was
looking at some things, I noticed that I was just
charged for my yearly flow subscription. So that right there,
(04:56):
it seems to me, is money well spent, especially now
that Slinger is going to be on there for those
rare occasions where you can't be there to watch the
action live, So big fun for everybody getting ready. Boy,
we had some heat winners. We had the heat racing
yesterday at North Wilkesborough. Brad Keselowski. Now there is a
(05:20):
he was fast qualifier and won his heat race. Now
you think that's coincidental that the fast qualifier won the
heat race. There's just no passing at this track. Do
we remember a year ago this was one of those
races where we just don't have enough people leading the
race to how about this? Enough lead changes and Christopher
(05:45):
Bell won the other heat race. They start one and
two from the front row. I don't know how far
deep into the field we can make our picks today, guys,
guys and girls, because they're just simply doesn't seem to
be a real crap shoot, like, for instance, you're you're
a Chase Elliott fan, say for instance, and.
Speaker 3 (06:06):
There's a lot of them out there.
Speaker 1 (06:08):
He sticks today, and what are the actual chances that
he's going to be able to pass five cars either
in the pits or on the track to win this
one million dollar cash anyone with these cars.
Speaker 3 (06:22):
I don't I don't think it's I don't know, I
don't think so. It's just that these cars on a
short track, they just you can't pass with them. You
don't have I don't know what specific word. The technical
terms of the cars and the way the cars are
set up and the mechanical versus of them doesn't allow
them to pass on a short track.
Speaker 5 (06:39):
Go ahead, Dan define pass is passed like getting by
somebody or his pass ramdom and a bumper moving on away.
Speaker 4 (06:45):
I was that just gonna say that too. If aggressiveness
enters to package, we'll see some passing fingers.
Speaker 3 (06:52):
But I don't even know if they can get close
enough to do that, because they seem to kind of
spread themselves out, you know. I haven't watched to see
if they're actually shifting here or not. I know shift
that so many of the other tracks with these cars,
but that too allows them. They're all running the exact
same speed, and they can't do anything to the cars
to change their setups much. I mean Denny Hamlin, for instance,
his car was so bad yesterday he wanted to take
(07:13):
it in for a pit and do something, and his
crew chief says there's nothing we can do on Pitt
Road to fix the car. So they're going to take
it back to the garage over night and they're going
to try to figure out what they can do to it.
But they're in such a box. There's not much stuff
they can do to these cars to allow them to
adjust them to get them right. And I still think
it's a car problem. We've been pounding on this for
over a year now, and I think that's what you're
gonna see again.
Speaker 1 (07:33):
The nineteen car tried some pit strategy by staying out
and not taking tires yesterday, and I think he was
knocked around so bad that everybody paid pretty close attention
and he was like, I don't know where he went
in one lamp, but it was straight backwards. So if
there is a caution and some people are coming in
(07:56):
for tires, you better do that or you're going to
be in big trouble.
Speaker 2 (08:00):
PJ.
Speaker 1 (08:00):
This is one of those races where we have option tires.
Actually no we don't.
Speaker 4 (08:06):
I misinformed you the initial way that they are going
to just have the standard tires. I guess they're going
to end up being very much like what they had
at Bowman Gray, so standard standard tires that they've.
Speaker 1 (08:19):
Had where they held did the yellow and red coat.
Speaker 4 (08:22):
From well it was AI apparently, Yeah, we pulled it
from AI. But anyway, yeah, they'll have it will be
a little different than what was in the craft Craftsman
Truck Series, but it is the same combination of left
and right side tires that they ran at Bowman Gray
and Martinsville earlier this season. So eighteen inch tire, lower
profile sidewall.
Speaker 1 (08:43):
Yeah, and we know how good or bad those tires
can be starting with low air pressure. Just as such
a crap shoot. Well, we'll talk a little bit more
about some of the things that happened last week and
didn't happen at Kansas. But I wanted to add here
that there's going to be and I read two different
(09:04):
stories and I'm not sure which one. How it bans out,
they're going to be a competition caution close to lap fifty.
It'll be between lap forty and lap fifty. Then I
see that the promoter, the track owner, Marcus Smith, is
going to make the call on a promoter's caution, which
(09:25):
is obviously a competition yellow. Are they the same or
are they two different cautions.
Speaker 4 (09:31):
They're too different, and it's because they're trying to manufacture drama.
Every time there's a restart, there's a chance for a cluster.
Speaker 3 (09:37):
You know that.
Speaker 1 (09:38):
Oh yeah, oh yeah, that's the way that works well.
Speaker 5 (09:42):
In other words, if Kyle Larson's leading every lap and
we're down to ten to go, we're going to see
a yellow Yep.
Speaker 1 (09:46):
Don't you worry about Kyle Larson. He will not be
a part of what's happening today at this track. Just
the fact that he flies in today from Indianapolis and
gets in the field is a big deal. And everybody
can say, oh king Kyle, We're gonna take a break.
We're glad you're tuned in. We'll be back with some
more good.
Speaker 7 (10:04):

Above the rest, Welcome back to LTN as the season
is getting ready to get going at Slinger Speedway. But
this is the regular points championship that'll be from I
think I remember this six total points events at Slinger
Speedway and this is one of them. Next week, of course,
(13:13):
will be the second one on that'll be a pretty
big deal with the Memorial Day weekend and fireworks and
all that sort of thing. So get underway with a
pretty big bang here in the month of May with
the first two points races last week. You know, all
week long, I've been hearing experts, whether they're talking heads
(13:34):
or race car drivers that have become talking heads, and
they all say the same thing. Yeah, that race at
Kansas last week was pretty good. You had to look
for things, but boy, there really that's you're gonna say
that a guy that leads two hundred and eleven out
of two hundred and sixty seven laps, he takes both
(13:59):
stage points and the fastest lap point. He gets the
absolute maximum amount of points you can get. And you're
going to say that was a good race. Well, now
it may not seem like it to you, but let's
take a look at the TV ratings from last week. NASCAR,
which was on FS one as it is today cable
(14:22):
only satellite only, drew two point three million viewers. Indie cars,
which were on the road course at Indianapolis and was
on the parent network on Fox antenna television, drew seven
hundred and ten thousand, less than a third of what
(14:45):
NASCAR drew last week. Now you say to yourself, wow,
that was quite the big event for Kansas City last week,
wasn't it, Brian? That wasn't necessarily the case, was it.
Speaker 3 (14:58):
No, their crowd was not good last week, and a
lot of people have been noticing it, and Matt Weaver
did a really good article about it this past week
talking about how, you know, is there a reason why?
Speaker 15 (15:08):
Now?
Speaker 3 (15:08):
One of the big things is Kansas has two races,
So you know, we've cut a lot of places and
Kansas still has the two. But a lot of people said, well,
Texas had its best crowd in almost a decade the
week before. You got to remember though Texas that's the
fifth largest market in the entire country. Kansas is not.
So I think there's a lot of things people need
to look as to why your TV ratings are up,
(15:29):
but your crowds are down. And if you check out
the Sporting News. Matt Weaver, who friend of the program,
had him on I think this past December. He does
a great job of talking as a fan. You know,
you see all these media people across the country they
just talk, you know, as people that are stalwarts of
NASCAR and always apologetic. He doesn't do that, and he
digs into some of the things about how NASCAR weekends
(15:50):
are different than they were before. And I think it's
really interesting if you think about it. You know, most
places now that where the NASCAR runs, they come in
twenty four hours before the race. They have ninety minutes
of on tract activity where they practice and qualify, and
then they split until the race the next day. You know,
there's no interactive going on anymore. There's no you know
the garager is they did all this work on all
(16:11):
these interactive garagers, they're never in there. I mean they
roll the cars out on pit road to practice, so
you can't even hang out in the garadgery and watch them.
And I think he digs into the fact that I
agree with him wholeheartedly that that's real a lot of
the reason why I think our crowds are down. It's
not an event to go to anymore. There's nothing to.
Speaker 1 (16:27):
There's no interaction.
Speaker 3 (16:29):
No, I mean, it's almost like going to a professional
sporting event anywhere else, a baseball game. You go, you
park your tailgate, you watch, and you leave.
Speaker 4 (16:36):
And that was actually the interaction was actually something that
set NASCAR apart from all of the other sports because
there used to be so much interaction.
Speaker 3 (16:45):
Yes, exactly, and they cut all that stuff out to
cut costs for the teams. But are you I mean,
you're cutting costs maybe for the teams, because I think
they're still spending as much money as they ever had before,
but you're cutting the event aspect of the race, you know, anymore.
I mean I went to Michigan for ten years from
twenty to twenty ten, and we'd pull in on sometimes
Thursday night, and there was always something to do all
(17:05):
the way up through the race. Now you look at
the schedule at Michigan, there isn't really anything, you know,
and they used.
Speaker 4 (17:12):
To do their show live out in the crowd area
and have guests. The drivers would be out there as guests.
So yeah, you don't even get to see that.
Speaker 16 (17:20):
Now.
Speaker 1 (17:20):
Where all this great idea came from to cut cut
cut cut cut was COVID. They said, wow, let's let's
go ahead. And you know, after COVID cut out practice
and fan interaction and all that, they said, geez, look
at how much money this is saving our teams. This
must be good for our sport, well, for some things,
(17:41):
and for saving money. I guess maybe, like brand said,
how you really saving anything? I guess less nights in
the hotel for the crew, which saves some money. But
for the most part, this whole COVID mentality that somehow
we have not let go of. After that was five
(18:02):
years ago, it's time to move on, okay.
Speaker 3 (18:05):
But the drivers love it and stuff like that. Of
course they do, because it's less for them to have
to do and more time they get to spend at home.
But you know, as an event, as what you this
is supposed to be, you know, a big event, and
people plan their vacations around going to these events, and
when they aren't an event anymore, I mean, they throw
concerts at people, but you know, like me, for instance,
I'm a race fan. I'm not going to see a concert.
(18:26):
You know, Zach Brown's going to be at Chicago, big deal.
That's if I want to go see Zach Zack Brown,
I'll go to a concert of his. I'm not going
to go race And that's where they keep thinking. And
this is where I think it's the people that are
running NASCAR that I don't think they're race fans. And
Dan and I have talked about this a lot over
the years that I think that's one of the biggest
things is that you don't have real race fans running
(18:47):
NASCAR anymore that can see through the eyes of people
that want to go to see the actual racing and
want to be involved and see what's going on. So
here's go ahead, dance.
Speaker 5 (18:55):
I think there's there's race fans. Yeah, there's casual casual
race fans. There's race fans, and there's diehard race fans
like us Brian, and there's nobody I think in decision
making there is a diehard race fan that love it
so much that I'm gonna sit through Raine Lays and
I go no matter what.
Speaker 9 (19:10):
And that used to be.
Speaker 5 (19:11):
I think people that random sport kind of had that mentality,
and now I think they just we like the racing,
but we don't love it like we need.
Speaker 3 (19:17):
Yeah, I don't think they, and I don't think they
think that there's people that are like that, but there are.
There's way more out there than what you would think.
And them constantly catering to the different clientele, they're alienating
the ones that they had before. And there's a lot
of people that will sit out in the rainde lays.
You still see it if you see NASCAR races, there's
people sitting out there in their pontos waiting for the
race to go on. And I think the people in
NASCAR think what those people are strange? Whey are they
(19:38):
sitting out there? No, those are the people you want
to cater to.
Speaker 4 (19:40):
Yes, from a driver's side of things. If you recall
a little while ago, there was this thing going around
about how NASCAR is going to pay the drivers for
promotional appearances and things that they did.
Speaker 3 (19:51):
Do you remember hearing about that?
Speaker 1 (19:52):
Yeah, I know that Joey Logano is leading the point.
Speaker 4 (19:55):
Yeah, I'm thinking that that is something that they were
hoping would courage voluntary participation in those things. But I
think for a lot of guys, they're like, ain't worth it,
Ain't worth it, no.
Speaker 3 (20:07):
Because they're gonna go. I mean, Kyle Larson's a perfect example.
He'd rather sit out in the pits where he's not
getting paid any extra at a sprint car race or
at Indianapolis or at any of those places. You don't
have to pay him to do it, and he's out
there amongst the fans, you know, hanging out with him
and drinking beer with him when he's at a dirt
race and all that kind of stuff. Selling T shirts,
yeah and selling Yeah, there you go and selling T shirts.
(20:28):
That's the big thing, you know. But I think some
of these drivers can see right through this as well.
They know they're trying to it's a gimmicky type thing.
Speaker 6 (20:35):
You know.
Speaker 3 (20:36):
They're gonna go do other stuff. I mean, Christopher Bell,
he's able to do short track stuff. Now, that's where
they're gonna go. And they're gonna go hang out with
the people because that is you know, and NASCAR needs
to see that. I don't know what it is going
to take for the people in the hierarchy there to
see that. You need to get back to that type stuff.
Speaker 4 (20:52):
You need to join the fan council, the NASCAR face.
Speaker 1 (20:56):
Yeah, whatever happened to the fan console. Yeah, We're gonna
take a break, folks will be back after these This

There'll be a lot of hoopla before that, but that'll
be fun to watch. But the actual green flag for
the All Star Race seven fourteen tonight. If you'd like
to call the program and gosh, you know, anytime you
(24:15):
hear something you'd like to comment on, you can do
so at four one, four four two one seventy nine
oh one, and we have Dean from Jefferson waiting on
the line. Dean, welcome to the program.
Speaker 18 (24:29):
Ah, yes, I might to know what you think the
viewer ratings are going to be when we do these
next five races with Prime. I mean, I'm sure they're
going to jump right off to the chart.
Speaker 1 (24:39):
Cop probably, Brian, there's there's it's kind of hard to measure.
I guess, right, yeah.
Speaker 3 (24:45):
I mean Amazon will know how many people are are,
you know, probably tuning in through their own platform, but
the Nielsen ratings aren't. So that's that's going to be
the difficult part. It do kind of seems interesting how
the schedule set up, though. You could buy a one
month of scription for Prime because the first race is
on the twenty fifth of May and the last one
(25:06):
is on the twenty second of June. So if you
don't want to have Prime, you could sneak that into
one month. It's kind of nice how they did that.
Speaker 5 (25:14):
And I guess we're going to really see what's like
now with Prime. They have five races, correct, so I
we'll see it these five races. I wonder if I'll
have more next year what it will lead to. I mean,
they'll probably gage it. They start with the NFL and
they had a pretty good response there. Now every Thursday
night's on Prime.
Speaker 1 (25:29):
Yeah, well, you know it's eyeballs. That's what they're trying
to attract. I believe we're probably going to have to
take Amazon's word for it on what there's actual viewership is.
And they have had events in the past that have
crashed the system too. That Boxing show which was turned
out to be terrible. I actually crashed their system a
(25:50):
while back. That was about a year Netflix, I believe.
Speaker 3 (25:52):
But yeah, it was Netflixix figured out all out.
Speaker 1 (25:55):
Since then, it's streaming, and yeah, we've got a year
to get that figured out and make sure it stays there.
Dan anything else?
Speaker 18 (26:03):
Oh, yes, do you think that this streaming thing is
going to be a thing of the future for NASCAR?
Speaker 3 (26:09):
Absolutely well, I mean we think so. But and right
now it is showing because IndyCar went to over the
air and their numbers aren't there. And that was something
we talked about last year, is we're going to really
see this is the true test to see which way
goes better, and it's not working for IndyCar right now.
Next week is the eighty five hundred. So if if
Fox blows, you know, if their ratings blow through the
(26:31):
roof with the eighty five hundred more so than they
did all those years on NBC, maybe then you'll see something.
But as of right now, I think the streaming thing
is where we're going to be headed.
Speaker 1 (26:39):
It's the future.
Speaker 4 (26:41):
The reason for that, I think is because so many
people have the firestick or one of those devices to
be able to stream all of their entertainment. So it
makes more sense to go that route.
Speaker 1 (26:50):
It really does. And you can subscribe to something like
direct TV and get it streaming only and as long
as you've got decent Wi Fi there it is, you know,
no dish in your roof. So we do appreciate the call, Dean,
and thanks for listening. Last week, there was a penalty
(27:11):
boil boy. It was a monstrous penalty. Chris Busher's number
seventeen car from Rauchh Freaking Keaslowski Racing had a front
bumper cover problem. How can you actually get some kind
of an advantage out of that, Well, that doesn't really
matter to us the consumer seventy five thousand dollars fine,
(27:35):
sixty driver points, that's a race and a half driver points,
owner points, five playoff points which are hard to come by,
and the crew chief got suspended for two weeks.
Speaker 4 (27:48):
I follow Bosi Paterreviic on Twitter as well, and I looked.
He showed kind of a really great visual of it,
and it shows that there's a large area of the
bumper cover that extends past that two inch order, and
by adding any reinforcement to that area, it would be
a violation of the rule. And that's exactly what they did.
And Bosey seems to think, and I would tend to
(28:08):
agree with that too, that stiffening the bumper cover in
a specific area could allow for subtle nose offset at
speed which would maximize downforce. So it's a subtle thing,
but it's obviously something somebody played around with in the
wind tunnel to figure out that there would be some advantage.
Speaker 5 (28:25):
Perhaps, Then you gotta wonder how many other cars bumpers
didn't get hauled of the Text center last week that
are suddenly pulling them out exactly?
Speaker 1 (28:34):
They look for that every week? Also? Is it just
something that came up? Did somebody whisper in their ear?
If I were you, I would look at that bumper
cover on the seventeen.
Speaker 5 (28:44):
I think whoever gets taken to the tech Center gets
really tore down, and it's kind of a random deal
who gets taken each week. So I don't think that's
something they look for every week. But when your car
goes to the R and D Center, yeah you're go
over it.
Speaker 4 (28:55):
But I do think sometimes there are whispers around there
because loose lips sink ships, and there are people on
cruise that might say something to somebody and it gets
around and yeah, then somebody's whispering in an official's ear.
Speaker 1 (29:08):
Ye unbelievable, isn't it. We're happy you're tuned in here.

You jumping right back into it, Welcome back to the program.
It's current Kyle Larson time. This is this is really great.
I have no idea if the fact that Kyle Larson
is going to race at Indianapolis next week has anything
to do with ticket sales, but they sold out again, Brian,
(32:37):
I guess this happens what every year?
Speaker 3 (32:39):
Right?
Speaker 1 (32:40):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (32:40):
Yeah?
Speaker 5 (32:41):
Right?
Speaker 3 (32:41):
I mean Dan, it was sold out when you were
there a few years back, too, correct.
Speaker 2 (32:44):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (32:44):
I don't know if it's every year, but it's most
years they do. It's a lot of times. It depends
on if the broadcast is delayed in the Indianapolis market
and it's not anymore, they're gonna put it on my
because the race is sold out. That doesn't happen every year,
but a lot of them. And I think there's a
lot of excitement with Kyle Larson in there and see
what he can do. We qualified twenty first yesterday, not
the greatest. He's already had two crashes in practice. I mean,
(33:06):
I think it'd be great if somehow, some way he
could win that race and then go down on Charlotte
and try to win that. That's I can't think of
anything more great motorsports. Why is that to be accomplished?
Speaker 1 (33:16):
It would and if but I think we kind of
all would agree the best overall racer there that there is,
at least in this country is Kyle Larson. And if
anybody here could do it, he'd be the guy. But
you know, think about it realistically, the odds are stacked
(33:36):
against him. That does not mean that every race fan
that that is a Kyle Larson fan especially and watches
him on dirt in every kind of possible venue that
there is, isn't just just enthralled with this whole thing. Now,
the bad news because he was there for qualifying at
Indianapolis yesterday and missed the qualifying and heat races. He's
(34:01):
gonna start last and Wilkes Burrow Brian, I'm thinking that's
not a real good place to start this one one
leader kind of a place.
Speaker 3 (34:11):
No, No, it isn't. And I don't know if there's
gonna be a strategy that they can use to get
the car to try to get by cars. You know,
I'm sure Cliff Daniels is gonna be working on that
right now, trying to They're gonna work out some sort
of plan because Kyle's not going to be content to
just sit back there and ride around. It's only twenty cars,
so he's gonna start twentieth and then the three cars
that advance, so it's only a twenty three car race.
(34:31):
Good because there's not a lot of cars out there.
It's bad because you don't have traffic, and it's gonna
be even harder to keep the leader, you know, at
bay because he's gonna have clean air for so long
and be able to set sail. So I don't know.
I'm sure they're gonna be working out something and try
to work some sort of strategy to get him to
the front. But boy, he's got a tall order.
Speaker 1 (34:49):
This track is located pretty much in the middle of
nowhere out there at Wilkes County, and you know, it
was a pretty big deal when they first opened it.
This time, you know, after the re pave and all that,
and I'm hoping that they still will be able to
sell out because it really I don't know if we
know how many seats are there, but this is a
(35:11):
I think it's a pretty big deal for them to
sell this thing out and make it look good. Now.
Speaker 3 (35:16):
Well, the permanent seats, I believe are but if you
remember the last couple of years, they had temporary seats
on the back straight away and watching some of the
short track stuff from this week, they don't have those
there anymore. So obviously they didn't sell enough this year
to warrant putting those temporary seats up coming outside of
turn number two. Those are not there, so that was
the first red flag. I'm like, I don't know. I mean,
(35:37):
I think a points race here might be even a
better solution. And I've heard a lot of drivers talking
about that that if we're going to get rid of
the All Star Race here, you put a points race
here so you could have thirty eight cars out there
and see what really happens, to see if you can
get some some sort of you know.
Speaker 1 (35:50):
And five hundred laps and actual strategy and all that,
although you know, two hundred and fifty laps is nothing
to sneeze at. I just hope that that we have
a good show and that there's more than one leader.
There probably will be more than one leader.
Speaker 3 (36:06):
But modifieds are the undercard today. So fans that have
tickets for today's race, there's a full on Wheeland modified
race there, I believe, right shortly before they All Star
Open race. So there you're gonna get a full field
of cars and you'll be able to see what happens.
Speaker 5 (36:20):
You know, it's funny you're talking about the stands in
the back stretch of temporary stands, and I went to
this last wolksbur race I went to I think was
nineteen ninety four or five. We got our ticket to
the last minute. We sat and the Junior Johnson grand
stands that are kind of as rickety stands, and turned
three and nobody was coming in our section as the
race was coming on, and I couldn't figure out why
nobody was sitting here. Well, the race started, everybody filed in.
(36:41):
It was the North Carolina Highway Patrol. We were sitting
in their section. That's where we got tickets. So there's
us in a highway patrol people watching the race after
they were done parking cars and directing traffic.
Speaker 1 (36:51):
Oh that's funny. Come on in boys. This is a
kind of a have and have not kind of a
deal lately. The crowd last week at Kansas wasn't good,
but the week before at Texas it was good. We're
not really sure what to expect tonight. We're not thinking
it's going to be knocking the gates down. But we
just mentioned at Indianapolis they're sold out. The Formula One
(37:12):
raced this morning in Italy and the attendance at that
place was two hundred and forty two thousand of course,
let's look at the big picture. How many big sporting
events do they have in Italy? Well, there's there's naming
that's a big deal.
Speaker 3 (37:29):
That's also well the home of Ferrari, that's also a
big thing. So I believe that race was in Ferrari's
backyard and most people bleed red like we all do,
even more so.
Speaker 1 (37:39):
Pretty cool stuff actually that they would draw that, and
that the sport is healthy. TV ratings are getting better
every week. The Foxes announced that they had a seven
percent overall increase in viewership this year over last. And
you know, you got to look for pause. And I
(38:01):
think we're turned the corner heading the right direction.
Speaker 6 (38:03):
Now.
Speaker 1 (38:03):
This whole thing about how many people are sitting in
the stands, that that's another issue. Some are good, some
are not. This new car seems to have something to
do with that. I don't care what anybody says. If
the drivers are screaming for more horsepower, and even the
(38:23):
owners are, I can't imagine why NASCAR wouldn't say, oh, well,
all right, we'll try it for a while and see
if the racing gets any better. I mean, how can
that hurt anything? Right?
Speaker 3 (38:35):
And imagine it hurts NASCAR's ego and their pride.
Speaker 1 (38:39):
Well there's that.
Speaker 4 (38:40):
The other thing too, and you're not even talking about,
is the marketing piece, and I think that that plays
a huge role both in the attendance and even watching viewership.
If you're not going to target the ads to actually
resonate with the audience that is going to be P
one your P one lists or viewer. If you're not
(39:01):
going to target the advertising for that person and emotionally
connect with them, you're not going to draw the crowd.
Speaker 1 (39:09):
Yes, they used to work real hard at it, and
now it's kind of like we're just going through the motions. Wow,
I should sell itself and if it doesn't, well we
always have TV to fall back on. And uh, well,
I guess whatever whatever you say. But we did have
some racing this week all over the country, believe it
(39:30):
or not. We're going to touch on some of those
things and another good NASCAR news when we come back.
Hanging there with us. We'll be back miss Sunday afternoon

Girt trek racing across the country has kicked into high gear.
And you know how I know that when I have
something for every single day of the week. This past week,
We'll start Monday. Cocomo, Indiana, the High Limit Sprint Car
Series was there for the big kickoff to Indy five
hundred week. Rico Abrew put on a show a last corner,
last lap passed to pick up the win in that
is Limit twenty thousand dollars win feature. Kyle Larson was
(42:53):
there as well. I'm not exactly sure where he finished
in that one, but he wasn't not at the front.
Tuesday Night, Marshalltown Iowa Flow late while light in the
mare because super late Models another twenty thousand dollars to win.
Hudson O'Neil grabbed the wind there. Wednesday night ashweeken Ontario, Canada,
the World of out Lawns Energy Drink Sprint Car Series
was there. David Gravel grabbed the win. They did it
(43:13):
again on Thursday night and Ashweken. I don't know if
the weekends are different in Canada because they raced on
Wednesday Thursday, but they had off Friday Saturday. I don't know.
I know in Canada, Canada.
Speaker 1 (43:22):
How can they be our fifty first state if their
weekends are and Wednesdays and Thursdays.
Speaker 3 (43:26):
Oh, gott Hanson was at that race. We should really
ask him what happened. But Thursday night, the World of
out Laws did it again. David Gravel won again clean
sweep in Canada Concut, Ohio Raceway seven Thursday night for
the World of out Law Late Model Series. Tim McCready
grabbed his first win of the season. Feel good victory
because he did it on the one year anniversary of
the death of his dad, Barefoot Bob, So that was
(43:46):
really cool and emotional night for him. Eagle Nebraska night
number one of the high Bank heist for the Lucasol
Late Model Dirt Series. Ricky Thornton Junior grabbed a win Thursday.
Friday night, we had a lot of weather and a
lot of bad a lot of rain around here. The
IRA was supposed to race a Dodge County. They canceled
that already on Thursday, which was a good thing because
I had a lot of tornadoes and stuff in that
area around that track. I think the track is all right,
(44:08):
but there was a lot of damage in their thoughts
to all the people out there. The only track that
did race around here was Chilton, and yesterday on my
drive to Kakana, there's a little pocket where the storms
must have missed on Friday because you had soaking wet
ground dry pocket where Chilton was, and then everything was
soaking wet. After that, they did run a gravity part.
In the modifieds. Matt clintch was your winner. The Dirt
Devil Grand National Series had round number two. Jeff Mulbower

is everything for this week.
Speaker 1 (46:04):
Couple that you might have missed, my friend really were
the podcast brothers both won last night. Kenny Wallace won
the feature in Peeveley, Missouri, at the same time that
Kenny Schrader won the feature in Brighton, Ontario of course
our fifty first state. Congratulations to both of those guys.
(46:26):
It should be fun on their podcast this week.
Speaker 3 (46:28):
Oh my gosh. Yeah, I bar did every weekly track
in the country. We'd be on for three hours.
Speaker 1 (46:32):
Yes, but it's those guys. It's those old guys. How
about that, Todd.
Speaker 4 (46:37):
I will always cheer for the old guys. I will too,
ir One in the asphalt realm kind of leading up
to the NASCAR weekend at North Wilkesboro, the Z Max
Cars Tour was there Thursday night. The pro late model
feature was Caden Honeycut. On Friday night, the Z max
Cars Tour is running again, this time the late model
Stock cars. It was a total Coca show of Rex,
(47:02):
that's for sure, but Landon Lewis ended up pulling off
the victory.
Speaker 9 (47:06):
There.
Speaker 4 (47:06):
That's two in a row for him in that Kevin
Harvick incorporated car Rodney Childers's crew chief and also working
with Ron Hornaday, so he's doing quite well. Golden Sands
also ran on Friday night. Per late Model winner was
Brazen Bennett. Madison Speedway had two late model features. Sean
Shield was the winner of the first, Zach Riddle winner
(47:26):
of the second. In his Toby Car. Hawkeye Downs had
the Midwest Truck Series down there, Grant grease Bock winning
that and then Grant coming back up to run at
Wisconsin International Raceway for the Thunders Super late Models last
night and he won that race as well.
Speaker 1 (47:43):
Late Model White Hot coming into Slinger today for sure.
Speaker 4 (47:48):
Late model feature winner at Kakana as well was JJ Vanderloop,
and then the previous night the quarter late Model feature
winner was Tim Bauman. He swept both of those features.
ARCA East was also running yesterday at Flat Rock Speedway.
The winner was Max Reeves Grundy County Speedway. In action
yesterday as well, Super late Model feature Larry Schuler Jefferson Speedway.
(48:10):
Last night, Tyler de Porter was your late model winner.
At the Dells, the late Model Future winner was Morgan Shissel.
He was his first feature win there, and then Modified
Future winner was Matthew Pate. And then Lacrosse Speedway they
had their opener as well. The late model feature winner
was Skyler Holshausen in his Toby Car. They actually went
(48:31):
flagg to flag for twenty five laps, unlike most other
race openers around the state and country. Oh Kenny for
that matter, Tomas Sparta Speedway had a CWRA super Late

That's right.
Speaker 5 (49:24):
We're looking forward to We already had one round of
super light Model practices. The cars are coming on the
track now. Interesting thing in testing this leak with this
new tire, we had Johnny d'angels break the track record,
which has stood since nineteen ninety four. We'll see what
happens in Cwulf. You do we have any track record,
but plenty of cars here and we're looking forward to
bringing forty. If you can't here, watch it on Flow.
Speaker 1 (49:42):
Eleven O nine to five is the track record set
by Tony Strupp back in the nineties. And of course
the real question is who will be the first car
into the tens And it could happen with these new tires.
Pretty exciting. I think something that's kind of hanging over
(50:03):
and will make qualifying very interesting. World sneak away, do
a break, and we'll come right back.
Speaker 19 (50:10):
We as Americans have many Memorial Day weekend traditions, patriotic parades,
family gatherings.
Speaker 1 (50:16):

The Dan Patrick Show.
Speaker 21 (52:49):
With Kansas it feels like you plug them in and
you realize that they're going to get to the Sweet
sixteen or the Elite eight. That's just not the case anymore.
And NIL has level the playing field. It's not just
you're getting somebody. Somebody else is getting somebody. Also the
transfer portal as well.
Speaker 1 (53:07):
The Dan Patrick Show.
Speaker 13 (53:09):
You The Dan Patrick Show week days it eight am
on Fox Sports nine.
Speaker 1 (53:19):
It really wasn't too difficult for me to, uh pick
the winner last week. For some reason, I get I
took Kyle Larson and that that was eleven of two
sixty seven. That's how bad it was. Today. As we
make our picks, keep in mind they're not going to
come from too deep in the field. I will actually
(53:40):
be probably deepest I should go is Joey Logano. I
you know, Logano tends to win these things. He can
win these things. He's like the defending winner anyway. And
I'm going to take Joelo, but I can't. I'm not
happy with it. Uh, it's just that let's just try
to pick the right guy perhaps and see how that works.
Speaker 3 (54:00):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (54:01):
Who wants to go next?
Speaker 5 (54:04):
I'll go quick and I got a break in a
practice action here. I agree with you. I think Joey Leganald.
This is one of those races where you can't really
you don't care about anything. It's I wreck your grammar
kind of to win Latitude, and that's joy.
Speaker 1 (54:17):
Okay, Brian, why don't you take Christopher Bill?
Speaker 3 (54:20):
No, I'm gonna take Brad Keselowski because the way his
season is gone, he's been running so good and he
gets wrecked and all this kind of stuff, you know,
and he's so down in the points with his luck.
He'll win this race that awards no points and he'll
still be buried in the pack. But I think it'll
be a cool see him win this race.
Speaker 1 (54:35):
Interesting, all right, PJ.
Speaker 4 (54:38):
Y'all have really good theories on all that, and I
don't want to pick the same as everybody else, So
I'm gonna go with Ryan Blaney.
Speaker 3 (54:46):
Oh that's a new pick for you, I know.
Speaker 4 (54:48):
But you know what, He's starting seventh, and I still
feel like there's gonna be some chaos and there'll be
some pit strategy, So I feel like I feel like
he's got a shot.
Speaker 1 (54:58):
Yesterday they the Truck Series. It actually wasn't yesterday, it
was Friday night, right, the Truck Series race. Well, they
ran yesterday afternoon. It was yesterday, Okay, I watch a
lot of races. Chandler Smith was the winner. Now I
was a surprise because he wasn't going to win that thing.
Corey Heim was gonna win it. But of course we
had a late race caution and Lane Riggs had to
(55:19):
do something to get by and got to the inside.
They both washed up the track a little bit. PJ.
You watched that much closer than I did.
Speaker 13 (55:28):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (55:29):
I think Corey Heime did get loose a little bit
there on the restart, and then Lane Riggs just kind
of finished him off, and Corey had words with him afterward,
as expected, but also as expected but probably not as appropriate.
And it's becoming a consistent theme is his crew chief,
Scott Zippadelly going over and getting in the face of
every driver that he feels maligned his driver. And I
(55:52):
just don't think that that's really right. I think the
crew chiefs need to stay in their pit. All crew
need to stay in the pit if the drivers want
to have a chat.
Speaker 1 (55:59):
So be it uh time of Jeski ended up sixth,
But it was a monumental effort, wasn't it.
Speaker 3 (56:05):
Holy crap?
Speaker 4 (56:06):
Yeah, they had something wrong with the lights where it
wasn't reading the right thing to let him know what
his speed was on Pitt Road, so he had to
adjust what he was looking at because it wasn't reading right.
So he had a pit road speeding pit on the
first pit step, and then they had another penalty with
a safety thing something with the rear tire changer. So yeah,
(56:26):
he ended up having to go to the back twice
during that race. So to finish sixth after all that,
that's pretty darn amazing. And he talked to Toby last night.
I was listening in on their conversation and they were
basically considering that a win after a really rough day.
Speaker 3 (56:41):
No kidding, looking at the results from the truck race
and the truck that finished thirty third. His name is
Derek White. And they always put a reason for why
you're out. The reason they put for him is too slow.
Speaker 4 (56:54):
You do have to have minimum speed otherwise you do
get betting.
Speaker 3 (56:57):
He had a vibration.
Speaker 5 (56:59):
But Derek, yes, that's a new pap the handling and
not too slow.
Speaker 1 (57:05):
Yeah, they've had all kinds of different things listed, but
I don't believe I've ever seen too slow before.
Speaker 3 (57:11):
I've had a vibration, but never had me taken out there.
Speaker 1 (57:14):
You go, Hey, the pit crew challenge, they used to
make a really big deal about it, and I don't
know if it's as big as it used to be
or not. They have a deal where they the pit
crew's all kind of battle it out amongst themselves. Who's
the best pit crew. We've remember back in the day
when the Killer Bees Matt Kanseth Skys would win that thing.
(57:35):
This year it was Michael McDowell's seventy one group. That's
the good news. It's like, oh yeah, it's the little guy. No, no, no, no.
They are all Hendrick employees that are least to spire
motor sports and that's the pit crew there.
Speaker 5 (57:52):
So I was gonna say, but the five nine or
the twenty four or the forty eight.
Speaker 1 (57:58):
You know, when they're moving guys around and they do that,
In fact, they just did it recently. They want to
get their best guys. Maybe they're gonna have to pull
that whole pit crew back over again, right, I mean,
why not? These guys were somewhere else recently, Dan, weren't.
Speaker 5 (58:17):
They while they switched to the five card and that
whole crew switch five with oh.
Speaker 1 (58:27):
Yeah, that's right. So these guys had something to prove. Yeah,
that's right, the guys that were with Kyle Larson. That's
pretty good. Well, whatever it takes. Hey, we're very happy
that you tuned in for this program. I hope you're
headed for Slinger Speedway for the opener today two o'clock
it'll start. And who's gonna win the opener? Will it
(58:48):
be the white Hot Grant Grease Bat? Can he win
three races in three days? I'm not sure, but I
do know that really doors even if they do climb
in through the windows. Let's Talk Nascar is produced and
directed by Dangerous Dan Margatta, who's up on the roof.
