Speaker 1 (00:08):
The lt T Hour.
Speaker 2 (00:10):
Let's talk Nascar with your host Todd Bailing, co hosts
Brian Schmidt, PJ Newedleman, and producer Dangerous Dan Margetta. Call
the show anytime at four one, four four two one
seventy nine oh one. And now the creator and host
of the fastest hour in radio, Todd Bailing.
Speaker 3 (00:35):
What a wonderful day for racing major events. The Formula
One race just ended in Monaco. We're getting ready in
a little bit the green flag will fall for the
Indianapolis five hundred. Then of course it's off to Charlotte
for the World six hundred. And if that wasn't enough,
(00:55):
tonight Slinger Speedway and fireworks. What a day of Hello
there everybody, Todd Bailing and beautiful Greendale, Wisconsin. My three
partners are standing by, chopping at the bit, ready to
get going. Today's starting with Brian Schmid up in Utsburg, Wisconsin. Hey, Bud, Yes,
what a great day.
Speaker 4 (01:14):
And the best part of it all is we're not
hearing the word rain for any of these races. It
sounds like everything should go off without a hitch today
and that's the first time in I think several years
that this is going to happen, and thank goodness for that.
Speaker 3 (01:27):
You got that right, PJ. Newdleman up in Trimplo, Wisconsin.
Speaker 5 (01:30):
Hi, Hi there, pretty excited to a quote our friend
Matt Vody, Mary Race, Moss Day, Race, Moss, Moss more
although I know he's taken off like Christmas, but Moss is.
Speaker 6 (01:43):
More so Mary Race most day.
Speaker 3 (01:45):
That's a lot more foreign language than I know. And
of course Dan Margetta, who of the four of us,
is by far the busiest one this weekend, as he
usually is.
Speaker 7 (01:55):
I kiddo, Hey, that's great to be here, and it
is a great day. And the only thing bad about
attending one of these events is you can't be at
the other the other three. Although what you can do
is I'm gonna do tonight follow the six hundred on
my phone. Well that Slinger Speedway, watching the super lights and.
Speaker 3 (02:12):
Not just watching the super lates, televising the super Lates.
Speaker 5 (02:17):
Right, You've been on the camera for pretty much everything
going on this weekend already.
Speaker 3 (02:22):
What's your schedule this weekend? My friend?
Speaker 7 (02:24):
Yeah, we were Friday night at Madison for the Big
Eight Race, last night at Jefferson for the ASA Midwest
Tour Race, and then tonight's slinger on some holiday weekend,
and we got why not spend it watching racing?
Speaker 3 (02:36):
If you were any kind of a race fan whatsoever,
you drive to pull over tomorrow.
Speaker 6 (02:42):
And you would have been at Norway on Thursday.
Speaker 7 (02:45):
I just might I have Brewer tickets tomorrow and we'll
see how that goes out.
Speaker 3 (02:49):
A very good well, hopefully they turn it around. Great
to have you. And as we're getting ready for the well,
it's not the World six hundred, but we like call
it that because you know, nobody really cares about Coca Cola.
I guess the real key today is this is the
first ever race on Amazon Prime and it's streaming, so
(03:13):
you don't get it on any television station. You can
get it on your computer, you can get it on
your stick, you can get it on your phone, but
you can't get it over the air or on cable
or on satellite. Now, you say, just a lot and
I'm gonna have to miss it. Listen, this is not
a bad thing. Amazon Prime is available on a one
(03:35):
month free subscription if you want it, and all of
their races fall within that month. If you get it today,
it's good for a month. And what is that like
through the end of Yeah, I guess that would take
us through the end of June.
Speaker 4 (03:52):
June twenty fourth, and their last race is on June
twenty second, so.
Speaker 8 (03:55):
It works almost perfect about that. It's not a coincidence,
probably not the green flag for today's World Coke whatever
the hell it is. Six hundred miler is five twenty
seven this afternoon our time, And as is the case,
(04:18):
I think this is the fourth in the row. Brian
that it's sold out.
Speaker 4 (04:21):
Yes, that's what it says. Yep, fourth one in a row.
Speaker 5 (04:23):
Now.
Speaker 4 (04:24):
Granted, let's be honest, Charlotte is not what it used
to be. And Dan used to go to all these races.
What would you say, Dan, thirty to forty thousand less seats.
Speaker 7 (04:32):
Probably there were quite a few of these toad that
big Grant stand and turned two that came down. I
think there was some in the back stretch, because at
one time this place held like almost two hundred thousand people,
I think, and they'd sell it out on Memorial Day weekend,
and then like all the other tracks in the circuit,
they kind of cut back and took some seats out.
But have us sell it again is pretty darn good.
I mean, it's look at Indies sold out and Charlotte
(04:53):
sold out, so there's lots of race fans out there
there are.
Speaker 3 (04:56):
The forecast is for seventies. That's the good news. Fifty
percent chance of rain tonight. There is there a chance
that this already monstrously long race will be extended to
take care of a rain delay. Oh boy.
Speaker 7 (05:12):
I sat to one of those back in two thousand
where it rained in the middle and we sat for
like an hour and a half and it ended up
on Matt Kenson's got his first win, So it ended
up pretty good.
Speaker 3 (05:22):
I remember it. I was announcing it Slinger and it
came right after the close of the regular. We were
done racing at Slinger, and I turned whatever the hell
I was listening to on and I kind of announced
over the PA as Matt won his first race. That
was pretty cool. Still, Chase Briscoe will start from the
poll one hundred and eighty two point eight five two
(05:44):
miles per hour. He went around that mile and a
half or at twenty nine and a half seconds, twenty
nine to five to three to two. It reminds me
of true X in that nineteen car. He stunk that
thing up. I think you were there for that one too,
weren't you, Dan?
Speaker 7 (05:59):
I was one of those dominating races I've ever seen.
And after it was all done, you know, you're sitting
there watching that race and you're like, oh my gosh,
this is kind of I want to say it's boring,
but it's kind of terrible. Then when it's all done,
you realize what he accomplished and hard that was. It's
kind of cool to have been there and seen that.
Speaker 3 (06:13):
It's just boring. That's all the show, Let's face it.
The show is Kyle Larson. I what is he twenty first?
I think out of the thirty three car field at Indianapolis?
Am I right about that? I'm relying on my memory
for that one? And he starts second in the six hundred.
Of course, that has to do with getting to the
(06:36):
track on time. What exactly have they come up with
for a plan if it rains? Is he just going
to get out of his Indy car and leave us?
Speaker 7 (06:45):
I think the priority is a six hundred here no
matter what happens. I'm just wondering if it doesn't rain
and it's coming down, and what if you're leading this
thing with four laps? To go, and it's past your
time to go. I mean, you're not going to give
up a Indy five hundred one too.
Speaker 4 (06:57):
Are you?
Speaker 6 (06:58):
You know, absolutely not.
Speaker 7 (07:00):
And they did make some concessions down in Charlotte. I mean,
if he does not have to be at the driver's
meeting so he won't start at the back. They did that?
Speaker 4 (07:07):
Is that?
Speaker 3 (07:08):
E I R I.
Speaker 4 (07:12):
Copyn't said that in a while.
Speaker 3 (07:14):
We haven't, but there was no excuse for you know,
I remember, Uh, it wasn't that long ago that we
were at the Phoenix Race and Johnny Sowder was introduced
and walked across the stage waving at everybody. I saw
him with my own two eyes. And then they told
him he missed the driver introductions and they made him
(07:36):
start in the back.
Speaker 4 (07:38):
Yep.
Speaker 3 (07:39):
Imagine. And now you don't even have Ah, yeah, you
have a very important race, so you don't have to
be here for them.
Speaker 4 (07:45):
Hats off an ASCAR for doing that, I will say.
I mean, I know some people are not gonna like it,
and yes, I'm a Kyle Larson fan, so I'm a
little biased. But this is a really cool incidence. And
this is a rare instance. E I R I. Except
in rare instance. This is a rare instance, So don't
punish the guy. Let's embrace this. I don't know how
many times they're going to see this, and let him start. Second,
Let's see what happens.
Speaker 3 (08:05):
And let's face it, if there's anybody that ever lived
that had a chance of doing this and winning both Now,
I'm not saying I think he's going to I do
not think he's gonna win both races. I don't think
he's gonna win either race. But that's not really what's
important here. If there's anybody that has the intestinal fortitude,
(08:26):
the ability, the talent to do it, it's gonna be
Kyle Larson, and he's in his prime. This is the
time if anybody's ever gonna do it, it sure would
be interesting to see the shot he's gonna take tonight.
Can you imagine after going two hundred laps at about
two hundred and twenty five miles an hour and being
(08:49):
on the edge of your seat that whole way, and
then you know, getting out getting fluids as you fly
to Charlotte and then have to go four hundred laps
on a mile and a half half track. Just the
fact that do I mean, gee, whiz John Andretti couldn't
do it. Maybe Kyle Larson can. Stuart was the last
(09:10):
one with a really really good shot at that.
Speaker 7 (09:12):
And I think Stuart's the last one that actually completed
all all the miles, you know, but indianed Charlotte. I
think he finished fourth at Charlotte.
Speaker 3 (09:22):
Yeah, we all agree.
Speaker 4 (09:23):
I think Kyle Larson's diet and exercise plan and overall
help buy a little about other point Stewart's back then it's.
Speaker 7 (09:32):
Yeah, yeah, Pizza and Schlitz didn't cover it.
Speaker 3 (09:34):
Uh oh no, it didn't seem to be the right thing.
We're very excited that you've tuned in on this wonderful
day for racing. And let's not forget it's Memorial Day,
where we take our hats off and salute the men
and women who gave their lives in defense of the
United States of America. And that's what it's really all about.
We're gonna sneak away for a break and be back.

We're glad you joined us. Hang in there.

Speaker 3 (12:25):
Welcome back to LTN. You know there are forty cars
that are starting today's World Coca Cola six hundred at Charlotte,
and we mentioned Chase Briscoll on the one end. Well,
we're pretty excited around here because one of our local
guys is making a very rare start. That still isn't
what gets us excited. Derek Krauss will start thirty seventh
(12:49):
today in the Coca Cola six hundred. That still isn't
what gets us all excited. He will start thirty seventh
today after winning his first ever ASA Stars race last
night in Newport, Tennessee, just east of Knoxville, and Derek
Krause joins us on the phone right now, what a
(13:10):
wonderful twenty four hours that you're going to live through
my friend.
Speaker 16 (13:15):
Yeah for sure, Thank you guys for having me on.
It's really cool to win last night in my first
ASA Stars winn and now time to focus on today.
Speaker 6 (13:29):
Talk a little bit about that car last night.
Speaker 5 (13:32):
I mean this is the same one that I know
that you and your family have been kind of struggling
with it is a Toby car, but y'all got it
dialed in really well.
Speaker 16 (13:41):
Yeah, we practiced on Friday. There is an open test
session and we went there on Friday practice and we
kind of unloaded really fast off the truck. So that
always helps when that happens and you can just fine
tune it when instead of making big adjustments on it.
So we were able to unload good and then just
(14:06):
kind of make longer runs throughout today because I wasn't
able to qualify because I was at practicing qualifying in Charlotte,
so we didn't focus on that at all and just
focused on the long run stuff and it was it
was pretty good right away, and uh just kind of
picked my way through the field throughout the night.
Speaker 4 (14:25):
Derek talk a little bit about the logistics of the
last couple of days here. So you were Hickory, you
ran the race, and Hickory then did you go to
Charlotte then and and do the Cup car thing or
you went to Tennessee and then back to Charlotte. How
big of a distance was it between Charlotte and where
this race was last night?
Speaker 16 (14:42):
It was it was three hours. So I I live
in Morisville actually, so I stayed in stayed in Mooresville
Wednesday Thursday night at HIC for Hickory, and then I
went from uh Moorsville to Newport Friday Friday morning, and
then Newport back down to Moorsville, UH Friday night, and
(15:04):
then uh after after practicing qualifying, me and a couple
other people jumped in my truck and we and we
drove to drove to Newport and got there about forty
five minutes before the race. So it all worked out good,
and uh, everything went to plan.
Speaker 5 (15:24):
So how is that gonna work with you jumping into
a cup car? How much time have you had working
with these guys? And how comfortable are you for today's race?
Speaker 7 (15:34):
It's a long run?
Speaker 16 (15:37):
Yeah, yeah, for sure, It's definitely a long race. Six
hundred miles is a long time and a lot can happen.
So I guess I really didn't know about this until
about last last Wednesday or something, and just kind of
went from there and uh, the opportunity came up and
went over there, got fitted in the seat and everything,
(15:59):
and then started working with them. And I do I
do simulator work for Chevy, so I was able to
get a lot of time on the simulator for Charlotte,
and could try to compare the simulator to the to
the real life stuff as much as they could for
today and hopefully for six hundred miles. If it looks
(16:22):
like there's a little bit of rain in the forecast,
but hopefully it don't rain and we can get all
the race in tonight, that'd.
Speaker 7 (16:28):
Be pretty cool looking forward to going forward. Now, as
far as your ASA Stars Tour schedule, we've got some
races coming up here in Wisconsin at Madison and Slinger
June thirteenth and June fifteenth. That's going to really drive
your confidence pretty high going into those races because those
are tracks you're familiar with.
Speaker 16 (16:43):
Yeah, for sure. And we're going to a new tire
for those races, so the tire will put on a
good race. And it makes quite a few of the
drivers happy that we're going to the new tire, not
all of them, but that's part of it, I guess.
But yeah, going to Madison and Slinger, we actually we
(17:05):
took our Slinger set up straight to Newport and and yeah,
I'd say Newport's got a little bit longer stre anyways,
but the banking and and how you run, how you
run three and four at both places, it's actually identical.
So we'll probably unload with with the stuff that we
(17:27):
had a Newport in at at Slinger, So hopefully that
stuff carries over and and we're fast at at both
those races.
Speaker 3 (17:35):
We're pretty excited for you, my friend. This is uh,
this is a pretty big deal. And uh, what a
what a wonderful weekend. You come off a win, and
now you're going to race in one of the crown
jewels of all of NASCAR. I hope you're as excited
as we are.
Speaker 16 (17:50):
Yeah, yeah, for sure. It's It's definitely cool. I mean,
as as a kid, you grow up dreaming about being
able to to race in the in the top level
of NASCAR and being able to race some big races
and and like you said, this is one of their
crown jewels. So uh, just to be able to be
a part of it is is really cool and I'm
looking forward to it.
Speaker 5 (18:11):
How much of how much of your family was there
at the race at Newport and now going to be
at the Cup race today, all.
Speaker 16 (18:20):
Of them as as you know, Jacqueline and as you
guys know, what's the Super eight model stuff? Is all
my family stuff. So my dad, my mom, my uncle Greg,
and my sister all here and we're all going all
going down to the to the to the NASCAR race today.
So it's really special to me that that we're able
(18:41):
to kind of do it do it all as a
family and that's just kind of always always how it's been.
And uh, that's that's the best part.
Speaker 6 (18:53):
Awesome.
Speaker 3 (18:54):
Oh sorry, Bud, there's four of us going. Do you
know very much about this forty four car? Have you
had decent amout of practice?
Speaker 16 (19:03):
Just just the practice yesterday. I mean you don't get
much no more. It's it's twenty five minutes and and
that's all you get. So yeah, I guess I can learn.
I got a lot of time to learn. So I'll
do everything on the job right And yeah, I can
do everything I can in the.
Speaker 3 (19:23):
Car and.
Speaker 16 (19:25):
Just just try to be the best I can keep
it out of trouble.
Speaker 3 (19:28):
Derek, We're very excited for you. It's been Uh it's
been wonderful watching you learn to race and growing up
in a race car and uh coming from a great
family and uh, this is a this is a really
really special time for your family and for all your
fans up here in Wisconsin where we certainly got our
fingers crossed for your good luck tonight and looking forward
to seeing your race in Wisconsin next month.
Speaker 16 (19:51):
Yeah, thank you. I'm looking forward to it also, all right.
Speaker 3 (19:54):
Derek Kraus, winner last night in his first as a
UH Fires Tour race out in Newport, Tennessee. We're gonna
sneak away. We'll be back.

Speaker 3 (23:10):
You know, I don't know about you, but it's very
gratifying to me to see a race where Joey Logano
is dominating and mirror driving and just getting ready to
polish up his fancy victory Lane speech, only to have
a gimmick like they did last week at the All
(23:32):
Star Race, where the somebody had the bright idea of
sending Michael Waltrip and his backwards baseball cap to.
Speaker 1 (23:38):
Go up and drop the yellow What were you thinking?
Speaker 3 (23:43):
Well, anyway, so we had a late caution which everybody
in the place knew was coming, including Joey Logano, and
have him get beat by Christopher Bell late in the going.
I guess the one thing you don't want to see
so much, in my case is a Ford get beat
by a Toyota, because I still think about these things.
(24:04):
I shouldn't because it's not really a Toyota, but it
says it on it. Damn it. Well, Christopher Bell won
and Leconno gets out and he's going, ah, I got
something for Marcus Smith. You know, he's the one that
cost me this race. Come on, dude, you knew it
was coming. That said, I thought it was a pretty
(24:28):
damn good race last week at North Wilkesboro.
Speaker 4 (24:32):
Yeah, I would agree. I mean, for as much flak
as we gave NASCAR leading into this thinking it was
not gonna be I mean, I couldn't be more wrong.
I mean, the cars are running multiple grooves. There was
lots of side by side sometimes three wide action. I
honestly don't know what happened in the last couple months
that these cars were able to race that well. I
(24:54):
didn't hear a lot of talk as to what the cars,
what they did to the cars to make them race
that much better, I guess. I mean, it's kind of
a head scratcher to me, but I can't wait. Hopefully
in the future they have a points race there and
you get thirty eight to forty cars on that track,
I think it would be a hell of a race.
Speaker 3 (25:09):
Tires. Does it have anything to do with tires? Is
it the red tire that they ran all race? Perhaps?
Speaker 4 (25:15):
Yeah? I don't know. I mean, they didn't even they didn't.
I didn't And that's the one thing I guess in
the broadcast They didn't really allude to what the difference was.
They just kept talking about how good the racing was,
which we agreed, but most of the people watching it
are probably like, why why is this so much better
than what it normally is? Because we didn't see it
at Bristol. We didn't see it at Martinsville, you know,
we didn't see it at Richmond last year. So something
(25:36):
I don't know. Did the guys just race more or
it's a real head scratcher. And I listened and searched
all week to try to find something that alluded to
why the racing was better there, and I really couldn't
find it.
Speaker 6 (25:48):
Well, they weren't points racing. They were racing for money.
Speaker 7 (25:51):
Yeah it is more than a million dollar prize, and
it didn't change.
Speaker 4 (25:53):
But they didn't do anything in the last two years though.
You know, those are just butt kickings, unless unless the
last two years one car was just that much better
than everybody else and you didn't have it this time.
I don't know.
Speaker 3 (26:03):
I was interested in the narrative that was being kicked around,
and it was really getting shoved on your throat the narrative.
They would come up to every driver after their normal
questions and say, don't you think this place needs a
Cup race? It sure seemed like they were stuffing it
on you and drive. Yeah, for the most part, the
(26:27):
drivers were pretty enthusiastically behind it, I guess. But it
leads you to think that's a speedway motorsports track. That's
the same outfit that owns Charlotte and half of the
really good tracks at NASCAR races on. They're not going
to add another date for a Cup race, So you
(26:48):
have to say to yourself, which one of SMI's tracks
are they going to get the date from. It's funny
Dan that this happened because that's where the date came
from in the first place, right, Yeah, I.
Speaker 7 (26:59):
Mean Wolksborough lost their dates, was part of that whole lawsuit,
and then one went to Texas, one went to New Hampshire, Right,
That's where the two Wolksbrow dates originally went. Would that
be funny if, like Texas lost, want to go back
to wilkesbro just become full.
Speaker 3 (27:11):
Circle and you still have that track sitting outside of
Cincinnati there, Kentucky. Uh, it's a perfectly good race track.
The biggest issue they had there, I think was with logistics.
For traffic. Is that a reason that they lost the
race too? I mean, come on, where are we going
to continue to get these dates from? They're going to
(27:32):
have to come from a track? Uh, what's left?
Speaker 4 (27:36):
We're Charlotte Roval get rid of the Charlotte.
Speaker 3 (27:38):
Roval And yeah, I agree with that, you know.
Speaker 4 (27:42):
And then the other one to think of is SMI.
SMI leases or rents Coda to run a race there.
That's why Texas Motor Speed we only has one event.
Their second one went to Coda. So I don't know
where they're at as far as contracts and how many
years they have with Coda. But that's another option you
have sitting out there, is to not run there twice. Bristol. Bristol,
(28:02):
you run there twice. Everybody wanted when they got rid
of the dirt, everybody wanted to go back to the
concrete and run there twice. Well, those races haven't been
any good. So do you take one away from Bristol
and go to Wilkesboro instead. Now you got to remember,
though Bristol holds like one hundred and forty thousand people there,
Wolkesboro only holds forty. You put forty thousand people in Bristol.
It's gonna look empty, so you have to kind of
(28:22):
weigh that out too. I mean, sold out. Wilkesboro looks good,
but that's it's really not a lot of people.
Speaker 16 (28:28):
You know.
Speaker 3 (28:28):
As much as I agree with your with your point
about the Rovo Brian, you have to think to yourself,
this is Charlotte, this is you know, SMIs, this is
NASCAR's home track. Really they will do away with the
with the with the road course, which I never liked
in the first place, and go back to an Oval
(28:48):
trak I think there before they would take the date
away and give it to North Wilkesboro. Really, I just
don't see that.
Speaker 4 (28:56):
But Wolkesboro is like a home race for them as well.
Those guys are all able to go home because it's
not that far of a drive, So that that's why
all the drivers want to race there.
Speaker 3 (29:07):
Okay, okay, but yeah, I don't.
Speaker 7 (29:10):
Know what about the Mexico date, Where and where did
that come from? And with what's behind it?
Speaker 3 (29:14):
I never thought of that word.
Speaker 4 (29:15):
That's the Chicago land date, remember or no, that's not
the Chicago land date is at the Chicago Speedway. Yeah,
that's an that's an or that is that the second
Richmond date that they got rid of.
Speaker 3 (29:26):
I think you're you're right, yes, yes, yes, from what
I from my somewhat sketchy memory that yeah, that's uh.
And and really Richmond is such a great race track
that you hate to take one of their dates away too. Well,
you know what, if you're lucky if you get one
date let alone too. Just keep that in mind, because
(29:48):
I think there's probably a good reason for having dates
where they are. Now, we're really glad you're tuned in.
We got a special guest coming up after the break.
Thanks for tuning, and we'll be right.
Speaker 18 (30:00):
Awesome to see old Glory flying probably last weekend from
Memorial Day. However, we've got some pretty awesome flags this
weekend too.
Speaker 16 (30:10):
Let's go racing.

Finally nailed at Gottlieb.
Speaker 20 (32:18):
I do feel like people wanted Rory to win. He
hadn't reached like Phil level of popularity that he misses

I'm just struggling with what is clutch and what is not?
Speaker 21 (32:35):
The Doug Gottlieb Show the Doug Gottlieb Show at TOO
on Fox Sports nine.
Speaker 3 (32:46):
Welcome back to LTN here on Fox Sports nine twenty
Glad you could join us. One of our friends of
the program, John Everett joins us. He's the communications director
at Road America. Boy, it's going to be a busy
time at that trade. It's all is a busy time,
but it's really gonna kick up shortly.
Speaker 22 (33:05):
Yeah, what's shaking, guys. I'm actually sitting in my garage
watching a little Indianapolis five hundred pre race on this
beautiful Memorial Day weekend, and we're finally getting some nice weather.
Things are already rocket and rolling and Road America lots
of cool new improvements and action pack schedules. So we
just encourage everybody to get your tickets early, get your campsites,
(33:27):
get your golf carts early, because lots of things are
going fast.
Speaker 4 (33:31):
Yeah, John, did you get a lot of rest here
coming up? Because boy, you got a busy time coming up.
You have four races in the next five weeks, beginning
with the Motor America Superbikes next week, which is a
really cool event, and then you got the June Sprints
the week after that, and you got the IndyCar Race
and then the trans Am Week. Hopefully the weather seems
(33:52):
it seems like summer doesn't want to get here, but
summer is here. When you got that many races coming up.
Speaker 22 (33:56):
Right, Well, regardless, we run Raidershine and it's just really exciting.
I'd like to tell my wife, I'll see you in September,
because yeah, we do have something pretty much going on
every single day out of the track, and all we're
looking at is for the sun to start shining and
the grass to start growing. Because a lot of great
new improvements and a lot of neat stuff surrounding some
(34:16):
of the events you talked about the Transam event that's coming,
the Cheese Capital Cup. We're going to actually be parading
race cars in Optimum Ultimate Street Car Challenge cars down
into Plymouth Friday night of that event, so kids and
families can see these race cars up close and personal
talk to the drivers. That's a neat thing that's part
of the Plymouth Cheese Capital Festival that we've added, and
(34:40):
again also with our Vintage event in mid July, weather
Tech Manage Weekend with Brian Redman, Adam Kroll is going
to be performing Thursday night, plus we're going to obviously
have the Concours in Elkhart Lake Friday night. Adam Kroll
is doing kind of an intimate gathering Saturday night. Tickets
are still available where people can preview or re twenty
(35:01):
four Hour War, which is a great documentary that he
did all about Ford versus Ferrari. That's Saturday night, so
it's neat. We're getting all kinds of new things coming
up to Road America. A brand new walkover at golf
Cart Bridge right over the front straight, which is amazing.
They paved the north paddock which makes it easier for
various teams and racers. Plus they can get up to
the false grid. Lots of new sweet upgrades too, so
(35:23):
if you're thinking about coming event, you know you want
something a little bit more special for you and your family.
Definitely look at some of our hospitality upgrades, both in
Turn fourteen and also in the Finish Line Tower. Plus
lots of just great viewing overlooks that they've added. We've
cleared out some trees so there's a beautiful overlook at
Turn twelve. There's a beautiful overlook at Turn eleven that
(35:44):
was done last year. The Bluffs the beach, which is
a mission too fast, two faced, tasty beach. You know,
it's pretty cool because I was talking to some guys
that were qualifying for our last Vintage event and they're
coming around the turn. They're like, we saw people playing
beach ball ball, like right over turn ten, right before
we turn eleven. We're like, yeah, there's there's a beach
over there, and there's a taco truck and everything else.
(36:06):
So I mean, you blink your eye for a second,
you turn around. There's something new to see and do
or a place to go meet up with people. So
download the Road America app, try to figure out where
to come and go at the track, and you'd be
surprised at what you find.
Speaker 4 (36:22):
With this being eighty five hundred day to Crown Jewel
event coming up June nineteent to in the twenty second
the Expel Grand Prix at Road America for the Indy
Car Series along with the Road America Challenge Sprint Car
Series or the IRA Race at Plymouth that weekend. Talk
a little bit about that weekend and how ticket sales
are going. Dan and I, if you'll sleep at the
wheel a little bit. We wanted to get a golf cart,
and it looks like some of them are gone already.
We might have to borrow yours.
Speaker 22 (36:44):
I'm telling you, you know. And that's the thing there.
They are in high demand right now, so definitely get
your tickets early, you get your golf carts are But yeah,
we're super excited about the Expel Grand pre presented by
Amar Weekend. Who knows man, you know. After the eighty
five hundred, it's kind of a toss up as far
as who's running well, who's doing well. But what really
sort of separates the good drivers from the great drivers
(37:04):
is Road America. They always look forward to coming to
our net because the challenging aspects of the track. So
it's exciting. It's cool to see like Willpower and just
new card and like driving through the campgrounds on their
scooters and meeting fans and talking to people. Plus racers
are racers, so they love the Road American Challenge at
the Plymouth Third Track. That's going to be on Saturday night,
(37:24):
So you get racers and teams and hauler drivers and
mechanics and engineers all coming out there for a real
good time. Watch them out. Lots some wing sprints and
then also some wingless sprints out there, so we're just
really fortunate to be kind of partnering up and with
the Plymouth Third Track. But if you get your tickets
before June tenth, if you go to my race Pass
(37:46):
or you go to road america dot com and you
click on that ticket link for the road America Challenge,
you can actually get a discounted ticket for the Expel
Grand Prix on Sunday at road America. So two cool
race events in one weekend on the same place. So
if you think about camping or staying up there, it's
always fun because we have a shuttle that goes from
Gay four, you know, so grab a couple of adult
(38:08):
beverages and then jump on the shuttle. Probably not don't
bring the beverages on the shuttle, but you know, finish
them before and crews over there. Buy a couple of
adult beverages. Definitely sitting at the top of the grandstand
watching great outlaw racing and sprints and then come back
to the track and see Indy Car the next day
from probably your favorite overlook, your favorite viewing location or
hit up two or three and one.
Speaker 7 (38:29):
Thing we did make a change for that IndyCar weekend
right down as they move the start time up right,
it's like a twelve thirty start time now.
Speaker 22 (38:35):
Yeah, slightly earlier start time, and that's definitely to help
out with TV. So you know, if you're going to
go to church and then go out to the track,
you might need adjust your schedule if you need to
figure out your babysitter or whatever else. So it's just
a little bit of a different change at the start time.
I kind of like it being a little bit earlier
in the day. You're gonna still see some action on track,
(38:56):
and then if you want to go home, you can
get home in a decent time. People love to flow
out of there. I think we cleared the whole place
out in ninety minutes last year, you know, so that's great.
And then campers can stay till noon the next day.
So it also kind of gives you the rest of
the day to unwind, relax, you know, maybe grabb an
adult beverage, let the traffic die down a little bit,
and then think about getting home, and you'll still make
(39:18):
it home, you know, plenty enough time to have dinner
and get the kids ready for bed and then worry
about what your work.
Speaker 3 (39:24):
Week's going to look like the team there seems to be.
There's a lot of adult beverages passing hands right there.
Speaker 22 (39:30):
I got to tell you what, you know, racing and
relaxing goes hand in hand, so I definitely encourage it.
But you know, sometimes people want to ride the wagon
and that's totally fine too. We're a pepsi track. We're
proud to have that. Moulton Courus has jumped on board
this year. So all kinds of great interesting ways to
refresh yourself, as well as our fourteen concession stands located
around the facility, plus super clean, clean restrooms. We got
(39:54):
amazing clean restrooms right nearby. Some of your favorite viring locations,
a concession stand right nearby. Get a golf cart, you
can actually make a tour and try everything for mac
and cheese, to roast a chicken, to buttered corn on
the cob, to tacos, you.
Speaker 3 (40:09):
Name it food. It's just the best. Yeah, we're talking
with John Everetty's Communications Communications director of Road America. John
Best of Luckily, you got some fantastic events headed your way.
And if I were you, I would keep the keys
to my golf cart in my pocket at all times.
Speaker 22 (40:29):
Yeah, absolutely, and try to find a way to maybe
get yourself a nice lock for the steering wheel, because
I'm not saying people like to walk off with them,
but they all look the same.
Speaker 3 (40:38):
Yeah, Bryan and Dan, those are the ones you have
to worry about. Good luck, John, and thanks to be
that program. You bet, you bet sneak away. We come
back with some results hanging there.
Speaker 4 (40:51):

for today Slinger will be racing. Dan Margetto will be
(49:11):
on the camera qualifying at five, racing at six thirty,
and then tomorrow Golden Sands Speedway is going to be running.
They got a super late Model special, the Dick Trickle
ninety nine, and that's it.
Speaker 3 (49:23):
You didn't give the results from Slinger Speedway last week.
A hell of a race. A late caution which allowed
Alex Prunty and Jesse Burnhagen to go side by side.
Alex snuck away took the checkered flag. In post race inspection,
he was found to have fifty eight point one percent
(49:43):
left side weight, which caused him to be de q'ed
by one tenth of one percent. Hey, stuff happens. What
I liked about it? It was respectful, close racing. They
got out and congratulated each other. Nobody was mad, nobody
threatened each other. But Jesse Bernhagen wins the opener at
Slinger Speedway and congratulations to him. And like PJ said,
(50:07):
fireworks tonight. Hey five cars beat the thirty year old
track record in qualifying last week our new for the
first time we had a driver into the tens. Steve
Apel ran a ten to nine four lopped one tenth
of a second off of the old record. Pretty awesome.
(50:29):
I think it's gonna be a constant every week. Who's
gonna go faster than the ten ninety nine? Just amazing stuff.
We did. Forget one. I gotta tell you we forgot one. Yep,
Julia Illinois. Last week Tony Stewart won his second Top Fuel.

Speaker 3 (54:10):
A little catch it up to do here. We had
some racing this week at Charlotte yesterday the in the
Xfinity series, William Byron won it. In the trucks it
was Corey Heim your winner. Tie had bad luck again
and DNF boy, oh boy, can't buy a break there.
In the ARCA series, some guy named Austin Green. He's
(54:33):
that's his second race in ARCA and he won it.
Pretty impressive. The news coming out of there, though, is
Kletis McFarland. How's that experiment working out? After he took
out like most of the field on a late restart
because he quote spun his tires. Yeah yeah, let's.
Speaker 4 (54:49):
Forge out he had a restrictor played on his car.
That's let's keep.
Speaker 3 (54:52):
This clown racing. I guess a couple of notes. Will
he be signed a contract extension with Hendry through twenty nine.
Richard Childress picked up the option here for Kyle Busch
for next year. Kind of reminds me of the forty
five car there for a second didn't, and we saw
this note this week, which I thought was very odd.
(55:15):
The land that is owned by Teresa Earnhardt is where
Dale Senior is buried, and Kelly and Dale Junior are
not welcome to visit the grave. Are you kidding me?
Do we have no class whatsoever? What a pissing contest.
That is unbelievable. And then we have a little bit
(55:37):
of indie news. It's the first sellout since twenty sixteen.
There are less seats than there were back in the day,
but I like to think of it as the Larsen
Factor today, which has sold out both Charlotte and Indianapolis.
Let's go and let's see if he can win this thing.
And what a mess. Panske owns the track and then
(55:59):
he fired his entire management team. Tim Sindrick gets the boot,
along with a couple other big name dudes over there
with big money making and after they were just in
a mess. And the question that most people say is
is this going to affect Austin Sindric's employment with Dad's
(56:19):
NASCAR team. I don't know why it would. The guy's
winning races. I don't see that as being an issue whatsoever.
And I don't think Penske would either. So Jimmy Johnson
is going to be in tonight's coke six hundred and
he starts seventeenth. So I'm looking at my TV here
while we're going, and I see and he's at Indianapolis
(56:41):
right now? What the hell is that all about? He's
driving the two seater. Oh okay, and then what they'll
fly out?
Speaker 7 (56:48):
Do you have to make the drivers meeting?
Speaker 4 (56:50):
He's got tom Brady behind him. I won't say he's
driving it and tom Brady is the passenger. And he
said he's going to try to get tom Brady to
soil himself if possible.
Speaker 6 (57:01):
That that whole sentence sounds naughty.
Speaker 5 (57:05):
Tom Brady behind him and he's gonna try to get
him to soil himself.
Speaker 3 (57:09):
Yeah, there you go. It is kind of naughty when
you think of it. It all right, picks for the Charlotte Race.
I don't really care so much about Indianapolis. I'm going
to say Austin Syndric to win tonight. Uh huh, there
you go. That'll show, that'll show his continued employment. All right,
let's see who's next. Let's let's go to Brian next.
Speaker 4 (57:31):
I'm gonna go with Willie b to win the six hundred,
and I'm gonna go with will Power to win the
five hundred.
Speaker 7 (57:37):
Okay, Dan, I'm gonna go with Kyle Larson to win
the six hundred tonight. I think he'll do it, and
uh Potter Award win Indy five hundred.
Speaker 4 (57:49):
That'd be cool. That's why I want to win. But
that's why I'm not picking him.
Speaker 3 (57:52):
PJ.
Speaker 5 (57:54):
Well, I'm gonna go with the unthinkable just because I'm
gonna go with Kyle Larson for the Indy five hundred,
what the hell? Right, And then I'll go with Chris
Busher for the six hundred.
Speaker 4 (58:05):
Whoa not Ryan Blaney right now? Stop the presses?
Speaker 5 (58:08):
Well, he's with Penske And I figured there's a lot
of drama circulating there.
Speaker 3 (58:13):
There is. That's exactly why I took Cindric.
Speaker 6 (58:16):
Oh Sindric Sundery.
Speaker 3 (58:16):
A little bit of a different kind of yeah, yeah,
different kind of pressure. That's all right, it's all worth it.
It's all big fun. Oh man, this is this is
a great day for everybody. And not only did we
watch already today when they raced at Monica in the
Formula one, who won that one? Do we know Lando,
(58:40):
Lando Lay started at Your Life. I love that Formula
one announcer. He is really something. Indianapolis gets the green
at eleven forty five, so about forty five minutes from
right now, and then Charlotte at five twenty seven. Don't
forget to beat the Slinger Speedway tonight. It's a one
hundred lap Super Late Model feature plus fireworks. We'll said
(59:02):
that for IDs benefit. Hey, real race cars have doors,
even if they do climb in through the windows. LTN
is produced and directed by Dangerous Dan Margetta. Our engineer
is Matt Loci. For all of us, enjoy the holiday
