Speaker 1 (00:09):
The lt at Hour, Let's talk Nascar with your host
Todd Bayling, co hosts Brian Schmidt, PJ Newedleman, and producer
Dangerous Dan Margetta. Call the show anytime at four one
four four two one seventy nine oh one, and now
the creator and host of the Fastest Hour and Radio,
(00:32):
Todd Biling.
Speaker 2 (00:35):
And May the fourth be with you. Great of you
to join us today as we're getting ready to race,
not only at that beautiful mile and a half, we're
down in Texas. We're getting ready to race at Madison
International Speedway, where about all places our entire gang minus
me are at right now, starting with the Let's let's
(00:57):
start with Brian Schmidt, who normally normally you normally live
in Usburg.
Speaker 3 (01:04):
Usually yeah, yep. Now, I got early two hour trip
here to Madison and met up with everybody and we
are here from sweet seventeen overlooking the speedway this morning.
Speaker 2 (01:15):
Beautiful days, it is Pete, it is beautiful. PJ. Noodleman,
who made the trip early this morning, also.
Speaker 4 (01:24):
Furkan there we go. I got it to work.
Speaker 5 (01:26):
I had to wiggle it, but yeah, I'm here early
as well and excited. It's a beautiful day. For racing
at Madison, and of course Mark Martin is here too,
not to race, but to kind of commiserate with the fans.
And I'm excited for that as well.
Speaker 2 (01:41):
And I love it when you wiggle it myself, Dan Margetta,
our producer, and Dan the madness. We've survived setting up
this morning. I guess we're all good.
Speaker 6 (01:52):
Huh oh yeah, yeah, we're here ready to go doing
radio here and I'm gonna move over to the TV
part and run a camera later on for a big
race day today.
Speaker 2 (02:01):
And it's going to be televised on Track TV and
you'll be on How many cameras do they usually run
for a deal like that, Well, we'll.
Speaker 6 (02:10):
Have probably two on the ledge or roofcams or ledge cans,
one on the infield, and then uh probably a drone.
So that's I'm guessing. Look at the list, who's all
year I know them yet I get to go over
there after the show's done. But that looks like the
setup it's going to be.
Speaker 3 (02:24):
And then Brian, you have to work today, will go ahead,
just wander around probably right, find a place there you go,
irritate the locals.
Speaker 2 (02:35):
One thing we're good at it wandering Uh, Austin Hosavar
is on the poll today. How often do we say that, Well,
it's the first time we've ever said that one hundred
and ninety one point six five nine miles an hour
went twenty eight point one seven five seconds around Texas.
(02:55):
He was not the fastest car in all of the practice.
This is suddenly Austin Syndric is a thing interesting? What's
happening over at penske As Austin Sindric is winning and
fastest in practice and qualifies up front, and then you
(03:16):
have the defending champion, Joey Logano, who got his peepy
whacked good last week because he cheated. Wasn't his fault,
of course, it's somebody else's fault in a different PENSKEI
car at Talladega. I think that things are rolling over
maybe in penske Land, which is kind of interesting. By
(03:40):
the way, William Byron will start second, Sindric third, Kyle
Larsen fourth. Yeah, how hard is it for me to
pick him today?
Speaker 1 (03:47):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (03:47):
I'm giving up on the eight car, right, that ain't happening.
And Michael McDonald fifth. I just am having a hard
time believing how many guys qualified really crappy. Christopher All sixteenth,
Reddick seventeenth, Brisco twenty second, Blainey twenty fourth, Kyle Busch
(04:07):
twenty sixth, Logano keeping with a theme here apparently, twenty seventh,
Chase Elliott twenty ninth, and then the awesome team over
there at Raush Freakin Keslowski Racing BK, we'll start thirtieth
and the other bad boy Ryan and Priest will start
(04:28):
thirty third. By the way, the SVG experiment is not
going well. If anyone hasn't noticed, we just don't have
enough road courses for this guy to run up front.
He's not really learning it. He'll start thirty seventh in
the field today, and he really hasn't done a lot
of you know, like going forward, which is kind of
(04:49):
a big deal in this business. You want to be
going forward if even if you start bad, you got
to get moving the right direction, and that hasn't happened
very much yet. The race, Oh my god, you like
watching racing on TV. You got picture and picture you say, well,
you're gonna need it today. Let's see the green flag
(05:10):
for our race. Our race, our NASCAR race starts at
two thirty. Okay, but before that Fox who's pushing IndyCar
more than NASCAR even though they get a fraction of
the ratings even on the main network, gets underway at
twelve forty seven, So we have the IndyCar race first,
(05:34):
then we have the green flag for the Cup race,
and then we'll see who's hanging on yet, because Formula
one is in Miami today and that gets underwagh at
three o'clock and that's on ABC. So you have good
God all at the same time our race, our NASCAR
race that starts at two thirty seventies for a temperature
(05:58):
perfect thirty degree chants, a precipitation not perfect, but we'll
have to just hope everything goes well there and a
lot of rained and passing through Texas these days. All right,
we need to talk a little bit about that Talladega race.
Austin Cindric wins it. Okay, we know that he's one
(06:18):
of the cars that could do it. How do you
like it now that we didn't have a recathon and
we actually had a clean, relatively clean race. There was
a couple of skirmishes, but really, you know, wiping out
fifteen of the most popular drivers at a time didn't
exactly happen.
Speaker 4 (06:38):
On the other hand, no passing at the end of
that thing.
Speaker 2 (06:42):
We all got in a nice side by sideline and
race that way all the way to the end. And
it was a photo finish too. The two cars up
front were right next to each other as they crossed
the line. Is that what we wanted to see, guys?
Speaker 4 (06:57):
I guess it is. It was considered a pretty good race.
Speaker 2 (07:01):
I guess well.
Speaker 6 (07:04):
Yeah, well, well.
Speaker 2 (07:08):
Did we lose them?
Speaker 7 (07:09):
Yeah? Yeah, I don't know. It's Mike, Yeah, I mean,
it's it.
Speaker 3 (07:14):
We we had thought maybe we were gonna see recks,
because that's what we had talked about, maybe we're not
going to have a wreck from once and and finally
we didn't.
Speaker 7 (07:20):
But now people are complaining about it. I don't know.
I don't know what the solution is. I really don't.
I mean, do you do you want the recks?
Speaker 8 (07:27):
Do you not?
Speaker 3 (07:27):
I mean, I know we want three wide four wide
racing at the end, but that's just not realistic with
these cars. You had a photo finish. Yeah, you guys
couldn't pass like they wanted. But I mean, I don't know,
I don't know. I don't know what else you want?
Speaker 6 (07:38):
Yeah, I think, and we didn't wreck, and we didn't
wreck the field is a big thing, and are we
in the middle now that we need a wreck to
have a good race, because I thought it was okay.
I mean, they didn't have any big slam bang crashes,
and and the cars were side by side coming to
the line, so it wasn't like a guy ran away
and just you know, there's no pass back the cars,
cars tried and driver, i mean drivers tried to pass.
Speaker 7 (07:59):
So I thought I I was okay with it.
Speaker 6 (08:01):
I'd rather finish like that than have a whole lot
of junk in the garage afterwards.
Speaker 4 (08:05):
I would agree.
Speaker 5 (08:06):
I don't think you're ever going to make everybody happy anyways,
So why do we even bother with the question?
Speaker 2 (08:11):
Well?
Speaker 3 (08:11):
Yeah, and I was just happy they finished under green, right,
I mean we said, what was the percentage that we
were going to have, you know, a wreck and the
cars working across the line at speed under green?
Speaker 5 (08:20):
We did that or have the photo finish where we
had to wait and check the scoring loop.
Speaker 3 (08:24):
Yeah yeah, So, I mean I think it checked the
boxes for what we want. But you know, it seems
like we're at the day and age. It doesn't matter
what NASCAR does, somebody's gonna pick it apart. And yes,
there are a ton of flaws, a lot of flaws,
and we're going to see him in the coming weeks,
especially when we go to Northwolksborough for the All Star Race.
But I think last week they kind of did what
we were looking.
Speaker 2 (08:42):
For, unapproved modifications to the rear spoiler. That's the same
overall umbrella penalty that was given to Ryan Priest and
Joey Logano when they were both disqualified from their finish
at Talladega week. There were different problems with the rear spoilers.
(09:06):
Ryan Priest, you are allowed two shims on your spoiler
and he had three shims.
Speaker 4 (09:13):
Oh no, not the three shim rule.
Speaker 2 (09:16):
And for Joey Logano, he had unsecured spoiler braces. You know,
that must be pretty important to deq a guy rather
than just penalize them.
Speaker 5 (09:32):
It is because if you get different airflow on a car,
you're gonna get a little more downforce and have the
car be maybe a little more stable through the turn.
Speaker 4 (09:42):
So yeah, that is a big deal.
Speaker 2 (09:44):
They both ran pretty good, but neither one of them
won the race, But of course that doesn't matter. Apparently
again they don't check shims and spoiler braces on the
pre race inspection, only on the post race inspection because
what they say is it would take too long.
Speaker 4 (10:04):
Okay, that's interesting stuff.
Speaker 2 (10:06):
If you'd like to weigh in on last week's Talladega
race Austin Cindric fans, you can do so at four
to one four four two one seventy nine oh one.
Will take a break and come back.

Speaker 2 (13:05):
Rest, Welcome back, Glad you could join us. Well, we're
back in the legal department again. Matt, I mean Dan
this week and I did some research into it to
find out exactly what all the complaining and pissing and
(13:27):
moaning was about. Legacy and Rick Ware. Rick Ware has
two charters. Legacy is the group that right now Jimmy
Johnson seems to be the face of even though Richard
Petty has a minority role with the team. He shows
up and signs autographs and you know, wears his sunglasses
and stuff. And here's something I must have known at
(13:50):
one time, and I must have forgotten. Dan cal Wells
is the guy at Legacy. He's been around this sport
for a while. He needs to be the number thirty two.
If I remember right, the Travis Quapple drove for.
Speaker 6 (14:04):
Yeah, and yeah, I think, didn't Craven drive for him
and stuff? He owned cars for a couple of years
and then now he works with Legacy. But the issue
here is which charter are they wanting to buy? I mean,
looks like it sounds like Rick Rare's two charters. The
one he runs in the fifty one car. The other
charter he owns is being leased by the sixty car
at Raush Kazlowski Racing. There. So the new rules come
(14:25):
out with a new agreement that says that you can't
lease a charter for more than a year, I mean one.
You can only lease your charter one year to one
team for seven years. So, in other words, after this year,
that sixty car can't use that charter anymore, they give
buy it straight out, or they have to find another
one to lease. I think their agreement was to lease
the car. The charter of the fifty one is running now,
so it's still be leasing for Rick Weller, just wouldn't
(14:46):
be the same charter. Well, Legacy came in wanting to
buy that fifty one charts. What they thought was they
were selling them for twenty seven, but it looks like
now they went up the price to try to get
the car, the one that the sixty uses now for
twenty six next year. What you put Rick ware in
a buying because he's already got an agreement in place
to get rid of the fifty one charter, but Ralsh
lease that one. The one that was left is the
(15:07):
one that Legacy wants to buy. And the price went up, yeah.
Speaker 2 (15:13):
Forty five million dollars. And to get this thing straightened out,
a Legacy off for another five just to get it
right because they wanted what they wanted, the one that's
being leased to the sixty car right now.
Speaker 5 (15:28):
And you know, NASCAR is seething because they're like, those
are millions of dollars that we're not getting a cut of.
Speaker 2 (15:33):
Not a penny. But of course we still don't know
what exactly is going to happen with the other lawsuit,
the one with twenty three eleven. And you know, NASCAR
can just after all this money was spent, they could
just come in and say, okay, then we're going to
do away with the charter system. Now what you got
for us, you know, and don't think that it's not
(15:56):
in their arsenal right now of things they can threaten with.
At least for now, it sounds like I get it
anyway down right.
Speaker 6 (16:03):
Yeah. And this latest thing with the Legacy and Rick
where lawsuit deal was an injunction. They were seeking an
injunction so that they couldn't do nothing with that charter
until this was resolved. And I think that got it.
Didn't I got denied. I think they don't think the
Legacy won that. So it still moves on, and everything's
gonna hinge on that other lawsuit. We can't figure that out.
If those two sides can't come together some way, and
it gets worse and worse and further apart. The outcome
(16:26):
is bad. I mean, really, you think about it. If
NASCAR decides to pull away the charter system, you're gonna
make every team mad then and you get them all
and you don't think they're gonna try to see something
back because they got so much stuff, you know, least
off these things. It's their best interest to somehow get
the same page. I don't know if they ever will.
I mean, it's kind of I wonder what the talk
is behind the scenes, kind of. I mean, they're gonna
have to work together to make this work and go forward,
(16:49):
and I'm not sure if they can't. I wonder what
the what the you know, are they close to maybe
coming up with something, or are they getting farther and
farther apart where it could be messy and it gets messy.
Here comes Indy Car, here comes your short track cars
have like the Stars Tour, that other Ricky Brooks series
and Stuff Cars Tour. I mean that that kind of
level of racing could draw some fans. I think the
(17:10):
dirt guys proved that a couple of years ago when
a lot of NASCAR fans going over to the dirt
side and watch laws sprint cars and late models.
Speaker 5 (17:16):
So GMS is getting back into doing a super late cars.
Speaker 2 (17:22):
Give us a tell us about that PJ that that
just came out this week.
Speaker 5 (17:28):
Just that they're going to be using Fury cars and
they're going to put together a super light team and
be working on They're going.
Speaker 6 (17:34):
To build chassis, I think, and Tony Yury is going
to go over there and and run, which means I
think for Fury. I think both in.
Speaker 2 (17:42):
Fury right the songs like Jeff Foltz is going to
be completely out of that deal.
Speaker 6 (17:48):
But he was out last year and then here he
is out now, so Fury doesn't have the namesake behind it.
Speaker 7 (17:54):
Spencer Gallagher going to want to drive those.
Speaker 3 (17:56):
I mean, he he laid in the weeds forever and
now he surfaced again running a arcer races.
Speaker 4 (18:01):
Is that something he wants to do well? He might
not crash as much. I don't know.
Speaker 3 (18:05):
Get to fight remain to be seen. He's good for
fighting and they like to fight in the South, so
that'd be perfect for him.
Speaker 2 (18:09):
That GMS team is going to produce these and sell them.
Uh and Tony Yury Junior is going to be the
point guy for it. They're going to provide support. He's
going to come up with a team. It's going to
send guys the race tracks that buy the product. And uh,
I mean basically they're going to take uh Fury and
(18:30):
supersize it right into a into a regular Uh. It's
going to be an outstanding thing, I believe, because so
many good chassis are coming. But then again, how is
that going to affect prices on those things? You know,
Fury's were.
Speaker 5 (18:44):
Pretty Yeah, I think anytime you get big money backing
things like that, the price is going to go up.
So I don't think it's necessarily going to be a
good thing for short track racing in the long run
if they're gonna continue to bloat the prices on things. However,
it is still good to have some competitions.
Speaker 6 (19:03):
Yeah, I mean that you think about fan wise, I mean, yeah,
but when Fury came around, they wanted to come win
up here. So we saw a lot of guys come
up here and they tried real hard to win some
of the races up here and took him a while.
But you know, to make an inroad here because I
think left Hander was good up here Randercard stuff. I mean,
Toby cars are pretty good up here, you know. So
the competition side is okay for the fan side of it.
I get what you're saying from the racer side because
(19:24):
the price is gone.
Speaker 4 (19:25):
Yeah, I don't know's it'll be interesting.
Speaker 5 (19:28):
But what I do like to see that is the
fact that you do have NASCAR people getting involved in
short track racing. I mean even the Cars Tour that's
owned by Dale Junior and Jeff Burton and Justin Mark.
Speaker 4 (19:41):
Harvick and Harvick.
Speaker 5 (19:43):
I think the fact that they're all kind of putting
their life blood into that says a lot about the
state of things to where there may be kind of
laying some groundwork in case NASCAR decides to crap in
the bed, that there's an outlet for people to focus on,
especially with Harvick's kid keeling coming up up, it's going
to be a factor.
Speaker 2 (20:03):
Are Three Headed Monsters or at Madison International Speedway today
where we're getting ready to go racing in a little
bit and we'll return right after.

six He's a really beautiful day to come out to
the racetrack today.
Speaker 4 (23:03):
So Mark Martin here can't stress that enough.
Speaker 2 (23:07):
Yeah, Mark is he drove his motor home up and
is the Grand Marshal and he's There is a an
interview posted. I wouldn't normally recommend an interview that I saw,
but it was really good. Dave Watson and Mark Martin
talking about what it was like racing, you know, in
(23:31):
the seventies and eighties around Wisconsin, compared to what they
see is happening now. Kevin Ramsell did the interview and
it was really good and I recommend you check it out.
I think it's posted. I know it's posted on Facebook
on the Midwest Tour page, but it's worth your while
to check it out. I don't know if you guys
(23:53):
have seen it yet, but you know, it's a subject
that we talk about occasionally on this show, how the
short racing scene has changed over the years. I mean,
if we all remember, we could race almost every night
of the week in Wisconsin and have a race that
they used the same car. They just dragged it over there.
They change a couple of springs and went out racing
(24:16):
and uh and we had some of the best racing
you could possibly imagine. And a boy, has that changed
over the years. It's it's including car counts because these
cars are so damn expensive that that's not the only problem.
But I would say that's probably on the list, correct
my friends. Absolutely, Yeah, I think you want to keep
(24:39):
it so you can run.
Speaker 6 (24:40):
If you can run the same car in multiple tracks
and not to make much changes, that's that's a big thing,
and be nice to get out of. Everybody can be
on the same page that way. We used to race
two times in a day. I remember coming out here
at Madison and running a slinger. Same with Kacana. We
ran Coccana in the afternoon and went to check down
a splinger at night on some Sundays. So, I mean,
there's plenty of race tracks, there's plenty of cars and
plenty of drivers here that wanting to do it is
if you can get everybody on the same page rule wise,
(25:00):
at least close, you have to make as many changes
like that's a big issue that they could fix.
Speaker 5 (25:04):
The other thing is to make sure everybody's head is
removed from their rear orifice so that way they're able
to drive clearly.
Speaker 6 (25:10):
And yeah, we can't wreck. If we wreck in the afternoon,
we can't race at night.
Speaker 7 (25:13):
I don't think there were as many kids racing back
then either.
Speaker 3 (25:16):
I think the maturity, the Dad Watson's and the Mark Martin's,
I don't think Mark wasn't out here when he was sixteen, Right.
Speaker 6 (25:23):
Mark was eighteen running the.
Speaker 5 (25:25):
Yeah he was younger, but then I was just going
to say, that is a bigger piece. And I know
that that's the drum that gets beat a lot too.
That people worked on their own car. But you even
see that transferring over into Cup, and I think that
that was something if you had heard my husband's rant
on here a few weeks ago, it was the same thing.
It's like a lot of the kids that are even
in Cup right now, or even Exfinity, have never really
(25:46):
had to work on their stuff maintain it. Don't have
a full appreciation for the level of investment that is
made in order to get that piece out on the track.
Speaker 2 (25:57):
And the investment is huge. There are no cheap super
late models and if if you get one that costs
considerably less than the other ones, you're a back marker.
Speaker 5 (26:09):
And well then beyond that though, Todd, I mean, it's
not even just the investment of money, it's the investment
of time. I mean, somebody has to actually work to
put the car back together. And that's the part that
I think a lot of kids don't have the respect
for because they're not the ones putting the elbow grease
in to do it. If you had to be working
around the clock to get a car fixed to go
race the next day, you bet your ass you'd be
(26:31):
driving a lot cleaner.
Speaker 2 (26:33):
There were a lot of volunteers that would come over
after work and then work on a race car for
several hours, and the old saying that good help is
hard to find. It's never been as important as it
is now. There are guys that are going after their
own job and going out and working on a car
by themselves, because it seems to me that the volunteer
(26:57):
force has shrunk quite a bit. Is that my imagination?
Speaker 6 (27:02):
No, if you asked everybody at Slayer last week, you
know what's the biggest thing is help. You know, I
want to get to the race strike just people that
come and help out and do it. And I don't know,
maybe there's not as many people that love it like
we loved it. Where that always did it didn't feel
like work to me.
Speaker 16 (27:16):
You know.
Speaker 1 (27:16):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (27:17):
Yeah, But it's also family obligations, right, I mean, people
have kids. Kids are way more involved in sporting events
now than they've ever been. So you have family obligations too,
which sometimes makes it a little harder to get to
the track as often as you'd want to help that
friend work on their car.
Speaker 3 (27:32):
Yeah, no, I mean, i'll, i'll, I'll go so far
as to say, I mean I did it for twenty
years and as soon as as soon as my daughter
came along, you know, I didn't do it a lot
for the first couple of years. Then like through kindergarten
through first grade. You know, then I was back full
full on helping, you know, with the race team. But
then as soon as she got involved in more other stuff,
you just ran out of time. Yeah, And ultimately, the
(27:52):
same thing happened, you know with my driver's son. He
got older, he had his kids, and all of a sudden,
I mean he's calling people to find out anybody's gonna
come to the Yeah, and that's when we realized it
was just time to not do it anymore.
Speaker 7 (28:02):
And it's it's hard, you know.
Speaker 5 (28:04):
It would be interesting if we approached racing kind of
like if anyone out here is familiar with Mike Rowe,
how he is supporting the trades and how you want
to get kids involved in learning about all the trades.
What a great way to get kids involved in learning
about automotive by bringing them to the track and helping
teach them how to work on cars. I mean that
(28:25):
right there could be a great resource for trying to
get a resurgence in that.
Speaker 6 (28:29):
Yeah, I think it's a great deal. If you can
find yourself, find a kid and hook up with the team.
Just the whole concept of everything being a part of something,
having to work for it. You see it at the
race track, you know, and you win, it's great, you
know when you lose it, even the downside of it too.
It just builds character as far as having to work
with people and build relationships and everything else, as far
as like life lessons. Yeah, I think it'd be great
if you get something to do that Toby's had.
Speaker 5 (28:50):
Actually, if you remember Blake Horseman who used to race
that lacrosse, his son has been working at the shop
with Toby and just kind of helping out around. I
think he's here too. I thought I saw him down
in the pit. So I mean there's one example of
somebody who has a desire perhaps to race, but is
also going to put hands on to learn.
Speaker 2 (29:08):
So here we are looking for guys. You finally got
some guy or a couple of guys maybe show up
and are working on your car, getting it ready, you know,
and then you go out and some idiot tears a
fender off or you know, pushes the front end in
and now you're stuck with Oh my god. You know
you could get back in a week before Well, we're
(29:31):
spreading out these dates, so maybe you can work on
a car. But my god, the cost for that stuff
has gone up so high that you know, suddenly it's
not it's not even as big a deal trying to
get people to work on your car.
Speaker 4 (29:46):
Now, you got to figure out.
Speaker 2 (29:47):
Uh, listen, we're not going to be eating too good
this week. I got to get some front end components.
Yeah right, how long does that last? Good luck?
Speaker 4 (29:56):
We're glad you're tuned in. The Gang's all.

Latest guest still is John Close, but I have a
few other ones that I'm just trying to get into
the hopper, including the new owner of Elko Speedway.
Speaker 2 (33:11):
Yeah, how about that Elko was sold? This is that
Elco deal? Seems like it's good to keep it, keep
it going, and the new owners seem to be pretty
enthused about it. I guess right.
Speaker 5 (33:24):
The new owners are the same owners of the Thomas
Sparta Sparta Thomas Speedway as well too, so an all
star showing all.
Speaker 2 (33:33):
Speaking of all stars, what about this crazy idea that
was floated this week about a run what you brung?
You guys want to cheat, I tell you what, cheat
up a car as bad as you want and we'll
run it and see who wins.
Speaker 4 (33:47):
Where did that come from?
Speaker 10 (33:48):
Son?
Speaker 6 (33:49):
First, there was a rumor that that NASCAR offered the
teams to do that, and then they said the team
shot it down. Hamlin confirmed it on his on his
podcast that yeah, that was aut there. They put it to, hey,
if you guys want to do this week, can do this,
and the team's all said no, they shot it down.
It was gonna cost them too much money, which kind
of you know, you you cry every week about about
your your racing and what you want to do, more
(34:10):
horse bar, more this than that, and then they'll let
you have an opportunity to do it, and now you
don't want to do it because all I don't want
to spend money, which is what the argument NASCAR used
in the beginning to not do it was because it
was gonna cost you guys too much money. I think
it's interesting because I mean, it'd be kind of wild.
I won't know what the rules were on that. I mean,
could could I bring an Indy car?
Speaker 2 (34:26):
You know?
Speaker 3 (34:27):
I mean I think it had to be similar with
the car. I mean, I think the bigger question is,
I mean, is the All Star Race like relevant?
Speaker 2 (34:34):
Is it?
Speaker 7 (34:34):
Is it necessary? Do we need to copy the other sports?
Speaker 2 (34:38):
You know?
Speaker 3 (34:38):
I mean, look at NFL got rid of it because
it was it was pointless. Nobody tried, and nobody try,
you know, and here you have this thing and I
mean last two years now at North Wolkesboro, you only
have twenty cars out on that track, and the racing
has been got awful, I mean absolutely terrible. And we
know that car is bad there, but we don't know
what it's like. If you put thirty eight cars out
on that track, would it be a little better?
Speaker 7 (34:58):
We don't know.
Speaker 3 (34:59):
And we already have thing at the beginning of the year,
which is kind of a pseudo All Star event. So
do we need to have two of them? I mean,
I guess that's the question I'm wondering. I mean, wouldn't
it Would it make more sense just to do a
regular Old Points race at North Wilkesboro. It's close travel
you have a regular race, the fans are going to
show up because you're gonna know what you're gonna see
instead of trying to always you know, yes, that's what
(35:19):
it is. You know, it seems like a gimmick, and
you know, do the fans want to sit there for
a science experiment?
Speaker 7 (35:24):
I don't know either. You know, Gordon brought.
Speaker 6 (35:27):
That to your X car that was you know, and
then you know what would they did with it? I
mean that there's innovation there. I mean there's a lot
of things that teams could come up with, but I
guess I see their side too. It says, why would
I run this for just one time and I never
can use it again?
Speaker 5 (35:40):
But not even that, why would you do all the
R and D for NASCAR and then just hand it over?
Speaker 2 (35:45):
Right?
Speaker 3 (35:47):
And if you think of the early days of it,
it was a made for TV event, you know, the
big Saturday night thing you had, you had, you had
more money back Winston money, right, and it was like
to win all that money because that was a big
way for these teams to make money.
Speaker 7 (36:01):
Well, now you got the charters and all that stuff.
Speaker 6 (36:02):
Two hundred thousand dollars was the person or the winner? Shit?
Remember that was huge? It was it was you know,
I remember, I hope he chokes on that two hundred grand.
Speaker 12 (36:10):
It was not there a.
Speaker 7 (36:12):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (36:12):
And I just don't see us ever getting back to
that point like it was back in the late nineties
when it was a month's sea event.
Speaker 7 (36:17):
So I don't know if.
Speaker 5 (36:19):
They really want to do something gimmicky you I'd rather
see him run at like a Saturday night show where
you qualify, you have heat races, and you have an
invert like we do in the Midwest. I think that
would make kind of an exciting, little different twist, and that's.
Speaker 3 (36:31):
Kind of what they were doing with the with the clash. Yeah,
you know at Bowlman Gray and I think that's fine.
I think one of them is fine. I just yeah,
I don't think we need to know and right smack
dag in the middle of the season like this too,
when you're busy enough trying to do all your points
thing and all that kind of stuff. You know, I
just assume turn it into a points race and let's
just go there and race and see if these cars
when you put them all out on that track at
North Wolkesboro can put on a show, or if it's
(36:53):
terrible like it probably would be, then we got to
figure out a different way to change the car.
Speaker 2 (36:57):
Like we talk, right, and all the chart cars are
expected to be there too, You're not right, there's no
hall pass here. You got to be there. But what
would I mean, this is the non technical side of
me coming up, But I'm not really sure what you
would all do to these cars, like to give one
(37:18):
car and advantage over another, you know, I mean, everybody's
going to have traction control because that's a slam duncan.
Speaker 4 (37:25):
Nobody cares costs right, you can do.
Speaker 5 (37:28):
Some camber, help yourself get through the turns a little
bit better. There's all sorts of adjustments you could do.
They would all do the same thing, wouldn't they not necessarily.
Speaker 7 (37:37):
And that's what would make it interesting. Probably, Yeah, you would.
Speaker 5 (37:40):
You would have some elements of short track in that regard.
If the crew chiefs could actually crew chief instead of
being put in a box like they are nowadays. I
think it would be exciting in that sense. But the
cost and the point of it is kind of like.
Speaker 3 (37:54):
You could also get one guy that really figures it out,
and you could have what like Carl Larson did two
years ago where he absolutely rates the fields, which would
be possible.
Speaker 2 (38:02):
Right, have a bigger fuel cell. You wouldn't have to
stop for fuel or would they come out with a
list of things, here's things you can't do and anything else.
Speaker 5 (38:14):
They would have parameters on it. NASCAR doesn't know how
to do anything without putting parameters.
Speaker 6 (38:18):
They have like no arrow rules. They get those big
like the little dirty.
Speaker 7 (38:21):
Model, like the old Ailes corners. Yeah, that would be cool.
Speaker 5 (38:27):
Yeah, I just I want to see your school bus
guy from Slingers show up and run something like that
like a backwards car idea.
Speaker 2 (38:35):
Anyway, just run what you brung? Thing was it?
Speaker 6 (38:39):
I think it started with NASCAR and they offered it
to the teams, and then the teams kind of shot
it town.
Speaker 4 (38:43):
They floated it like a balloon like everything.
Speaker 6 (38:45):
We should do this, you know, so working somewhat with
the teams. I mean they're trying to fish them out.
Speaker 5 (38:51):
But maybe they should listen to I don't know, more
horse power or something like that.
Speaker 2 (38:56):
Kidding you. I just want to cheat. Cheat in one
race will give you. We can cheek anything you want.
You want to put three shims in your spoiler instead
of two, I'll go for it.
Speaker 6 (39:09):
You can even peel a sticker back if you want,
right right, yeah, right right in your house.
Speaker 2 (39:15):
Some are downforce. Go ahead and try it. We won't
look at it. What they wouldn't They would save them
time with the inspectors. They would see, we wouldn't have
to worry about the pre race inspection and we probably
would uh soak entire I mean, what what kind of
things could they possibly do that one would do that
another one wouldn't. That would give them any kind of advantage. Well,
(39:35):
I guess that's where the good old US innovation would
be a beautiful thing.
Speaker 6 (39:39):
Don't fill your car up with Nier's like that guy
did at Nashville Boom.
Speaker 2 (39:46):
We're very happy you're tuned in. The gang is all

Yes we were there, it was tell us More.
Speaker 2 (46:43):
It was the sixty third season opener at Dell's Raceway Park.
A nice, brisk forty four degrees. I think we were
saved just because there was no win. But geez, it was.
Speaker 4 (46:53):
Cod You're going to say that you drank alcohol and
that helped.
Speaker 2 (46:56):
Nah No, and I'd be I'm getting too old for
that corrept It was Country Plumber night, and of course
that's the Litchfield's plumbing business, and of course Mike Litchfield,
three time and defending track champion. He and veteran Nick
Nolden put on a show. At the end of that race.
Nolden was leading as the laps were winding down, Litchfield
(47:19):
had a figure out a way to get by. There
was a little bit of contact, nobody got wrecked. It
was fantastic racing. Litchfield goes on to win the season
opener and it was great. By the way, something else
happened at Dell's Raceway Park last night that is I
think pretty significant.
Speaker 4 (47:38):
There was a Sportsman division.
Speaker 2 (47:41):
It was with the sportsman division because there was a
We have a guy there that wins a lot. His
name is Dave Truth, and he broke the tie he
had with Dick Trickle for the most ever feature wins
at the track course. Trickle did it in a super
late or late model as they called it at the time,
(48:01):
and Dave did it in his sportsman car. But as
he said, that's a lot of times through the gate
to win this many times. So that was pretty great stuff.
And congratulations to Dave truth. By the way, I have
one other result that we must have gotten pad. It
must have got past us yesterday at the Rockingham, North
(48:23):
Carolina Drag Strip in the outlawed Diesel Series five point
seven Pro Truck class.

Riser family Racer Riser.
Speaker 4 (48:42):
As you said, drag park down south there.
Speaker 5 (48:45):
I thought for sure it was going to be Robbie's kid,
because I know when we had him on the podcast
that he was actually at a drag strip working on
that with his kid. He's pretty proud of that.
Speaker 2 (48:54):
Yes, and he texted me this morning, is very very
excited for the young man, and pretty great there all
the way around.
Speaker 4 (49:02):
We uh, multi generational gear heads.
Speaker 2 (49:06):
It's a wonderful thing, isn't it. That's for sure. I
tell you what we're gonna do. We got time. They've
got a caller waiting. Let's uh let's sneak out right
now and come back and we'll we'll come back with

Speaker 19 (52:31):
God, can you hear me?
Speaker 2 (52:34):
Yes? Go ahead?
Speaker 19 (52:37):
So I was thinking for the all thuries, why don't
they just spring? But the Cup teams run super late
at northso will Spurrow.
Speaker 2 (52:47):
Oh wouldn't that be sweet?
Speaker 4 (52:49):
That'd be kind of cool.
Speaker 6 (52:50):
They had that Denny Hamlin challenge for years, is that
Richmond was in her and then they had guys.
Speaker 15 (52:56):
You know.
Speaker 6 (52:56):
The the thing there, I think God was we had
teams that were kind of putting car a fort and
some of these Cup guys were wrecking them or yeah,
you know, so they got to have an understanding there.
We've got to race decently. We're not gonna have a car.
Speaker 5 (53:07):
Which is funny that the direct opposite of what happens
on the short track going the other way, like moving
up to the ranks. Here you have these professional race
car drivers that have zero fs to give about somebody
else's equipment.
Speaker 4 (53:19):
Uh yeah, kind of weird, but yeah, it's.
Speaker 2 (53:22):
A good idea, you know. Brian thought of this a
couple of weeks ago. Why not just use Exfinity cars.
They're better all the way around, seems like bo Anyway,
he's a good idea.
Speaker 19 (53:36):
And I'll see I'll see the rest of you guys
gig down at Madison. I'm going down there in a
little while.
Speaker 2 (53:44):
You bet see you later, Adrian, Yeah, but what happened there?
All right? I already tipped my hand. It's the easiest
pick in the history of picking. Kyle Larson today. I mean,
come on, you gotta be kidding me this this thing.
He might as well put his name on the check,
all right, PJ in case I'm wrong, who would you take?
Speaker 4 (54:06):
You are wrong?
Speaker 5 (54:08):
But I am sticking in the Ford camp. I'm gonna
go with Josh Barry today. Oh shoot, you have to
scratch Ryan Blaney off now, don't you?
Speaker 4 (54:16):
Because I had that.
Speaker 6 (54:18):
There's still a one and a two on there, all right, Dan,
all right, I'm a stick in a Penske camp. Two
in a row for Austin Sindrick.
Speaker 2 (54:24):
Oh, you know, he's been the guy there. He's had
a superior car, of course, until it's time for qualifying
here comes Brian, gonna take caution wholes of ar no.
Speaker 3 (54:35):
No no, but I'm gonna throw you for a loop
first time winter today. Ty Gibbs in.
Speaker 2 (54:40):
The I knew it. I had that feeling. He does
have a nobody whose ar no no write it down
for Rich Pickle, though, I think Pickle's gonna pick because
I'm sure he's celebrating the first ever poll by wholesovar
you know horse Ask him later, tod later. I'm sure
(55:01):
we'll see what he says, and he will be at
the track today. Good stuff. This is a mile and
a half for and you know, it used to be
where people would complain there's too many tracks that are identical.
But you know it was all put kind of based
off of the Charlotte Try Double dog Leg Trioval front stretch,
(55:26):
and that made such fantastic racing in Charlotte. It has
pretty much. I think it has translated to good racing
in other places. I think the real complaint, however, was
if you're going to keep building race tracks, why are
they all the same? That's where the cookie cutter thing
came from, right, I mean, why couldn't we build a
(55:47):
nice say five eighths somewhere, wouldn't that be nice?
Speaker 3 (55:52):
Right in this place. They've they've kind of tweaked it
over the years. They think turned one and two is
only twenty degrees of banking, turned three and four is
twenty four. Kyle Larson in the press conference yesterday after
he won Theccinity race kind of said he didn't think
there's gonna be much passing today because he didn't know
if there's gonna be a second.
Speaker 7 (56:06):
Groove with these cars.
Speaker 3 (56:08):
Let's hope that's not the case, because the only saving
grace we have for these new cars is when you're
running on a mile and a half. So you're kind
of hoping this week and next week and then three
weeks when we're at Charlotte, we're gonna redeem ourselves for
the bad racing we've seen before.
Speaker 4 (56:22):
Did they put any compound down?
Speaker 6 (56:24):
I don't think so.
Speaker 7 (56:25):
I don't believe so.
Speaker 3 (56:25):
It haven't been anything published. And it rained like a
sun of a gun on Friday and washed a lot
of it off. If they were going to do anything
so that the truck race was very a very green
race track for that.
Speaker 6 (56:36):
Yeah, and then race yesterday at the Accinity Race wasn't
a bad deal. I mean it was kind of a
I feel bad for just An Auguyer.
Speaker 2 (56:42):
Yes, oh yeah, we didn't do those the results from
the The Infinity Series Super Sub Kyle Larson gets by
Sam Mayer on a restart at the end there to win.
He was a subbing for this Connor Villish.
Speaker 4 (57:00):
That was a nasty hit.
Speaker 3 (57:04):
Yeah, I think there's some matter for concern there. Yes,
pretty young for that, isn't that though. We hear about
Chris Right a lot.
Speaker 6 (57:12):
Yeah, it seems like every week now he' kind of
getting a win. You're at the leader when you're a
laft car is never good. Somebody put online, uh there's
some guys that that don't belong out there, and one
of the other drivers, one of the cars, you guys,
responds that you're right, and he's spelt right.
Speaker 3 (57:24):
Wr And Justin auguy really bit his tongue during the
interview too. He's just he was watching it. They're showing
the interview and you could see while they're interviewing him,
Chris Wright comes in there, you know, comes in high
and then he starts coming low and he just cuts
clear across the track and Justin's coming with such a
head of steam. He had no place to go because
your people say, well, Justin should just avoid him. You
don't understand the closing rate there, you know. And Justin
(57:45):
didn't throw him under the bus completely, but he's just
was shaking his head and you could tell he's like, man,
oh man, you know you got to pick a lane.
Speaker 14 (57:51):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (57:51):
And I think even his spotter, I think they had
some radio shadow of Chris Wright. Spotter is, hey, you've
got to stay in a lane and he and he
said something like, well my car up or something, you know, and.
Speaker 4 (58:01):
Guy is a tool, Oh my god, and not the
kind you want in a box.
Speaker 2 (58:04):
No, there you go.
Speaker 8 (58:05):
Not that.
Speaker 2 (58:06):
I was at a concert Friday night in Wisconsin Dell's.
I came out and I heard the last green white
checker in the truck race, which apparently had been pushed
back because of weather, and Corey Heim won, And immediately
I thought to myself, what happened to time of Jeski?
Speaker 5 (58:23):
He finished tenth and that was actually almost a win
compared to all the things that happened during that race.
Speaker 2 (58:28):
Oh, that's gonna happen. Well, I'm gonna close up here
and I'm gonna head for Madison and I assume lots
of folks are heading for Madison today. It's going to
be a great show you today, by the way. Oh
come on man, that was my Oh you guys. Okay,
I'll go with the four car.
Speaker 6 (58:45):
All right, Johnson is different.
Speaker 2 (58:49):
Interesting. Here's what I want you to remember. Real race
