Speaker 1 (00:08):
The LTN Hour.
Speaker 2 (00:10):
Let's talk Nascar with your host Todd Bayling, co hosts
Brian Schmidt, PJ. Newedleman, and producer Dangerous Dan Margatta. Call
the show anytime at four one four four two one
seventy dollars. The creator and host of the fastest Hour
in Radio, Todd Bailing.
Speaker 3 (00:34):
Well, good morning, and it's not Todd Bailing to bring
this show on. We got a little bit of different
format here on the LTN Hour for Thisten. I'm coming in,
Dan Margot, I'm coming for you from the twenty second
floor of the MGM Grand Hotel here in Las Vegas.
We're getting ready to have our playoff race at the
Las Vegas Mortar Speedway. Time to put a driver into
the Champions four if one of the maning drivers in
(00:55):
the round the eight can actually win this race. Things
are a little bit kind of discombobulated a little bit
here this week, but we're kind of get through it.
And I'm out here in Vegas. Brian Schmidt is here
as well. He is in Usburg back in Wisconsin. Good morning,
Brian morning.
Speaker 4 (01:08):
Yes, I might be the only one in my normal spot.
Me and Matt, I think are the only two in
our normal spots.
Speaker 3 (01:12):
I think, yeah, I think that's a PJ is not
joining us this week again. She's dealing with the issues
with her mother and healthwives and taking care of that,
so she will not be with us this week. And
our normal guy that comes on and brings us on
at the to bring the show in every week. Todd bailing.
He's on his way to Arizona, and I think he's
somewhere on the road. We do have We did get
a hold of him last we heard. You were somewhere
(01:34):
near in Nebraska.
Speaker 5 (01:35):
Correct, Yeah, westbound and down. I know the sound isn't
the greatest out here on the freeway, but whatever the
T mobile network allows me, that's where we're at. So
southern Nebraska.
Speaker 4 (01:49):
This is like a role reversal because usually Dan and
I are on the road, and now this time Todd's
on the road.
Speaker 5 (01:55):
Yeah, I'm heading for Salt Lake City actually to visit friends.
So it's not exactly on the way to Arizona yet.
Speaker 3 (02:04):
And you're kind of getting your closer to where I'm mat.
I'm over here in Las Vegas. We're ready to go
racing today, and this fall race in Vegas has usually
got a reputation for being so hot. Not today. It's
gonna beautiful, like seventy eight degrees and sunny. Should be
a perfect day to watch this race. And it's a
mile and a half track, and like we we'd seen
before on the mile and a half, they produced pretty
good racing. And I think we have a pretty good
(02:26):
chance of maybe putting a guy in the final four
if one of those playoffs eight remaining drivers win this race.
What do you think, Brian?
Speaker 4 (02:32):
Yeah, well, right now it looks like it's like an
all Gibbs starting, you know, top three here Hamlin, Brisco
Bell one, two, three, and then you have the next
three are the Hendrick cars, Elliott Byron Larson. So as
of right now, it looks like it's gonna be a
Gibbs versus Hendrick day again on the mile and a
half's Bubba Wallison and Tyler Reddick start seventh and eighth.
And then he got Joey Logano, the man they let
(02:53):
get through last week. Everybody you know should have been
should have been found a way to get him eliminated,
and then they didn't. There he's gonna sit there at night.
So the question is, is legana gonna do it again. I mean,
this is the race you would think if he's gonna
punch his ticket to the final four would be today.
But I don't know if that Ford's gonna be good enough.
Speaker 3 (03:11):
Yeah, and the kids being on the take on this
top three spots unqualifying, that was kind of surprising because
in practice I don't think they had the long run
speed or or the actually they've been working on long
runs speed. I don't think they had the short runner
they thought to get those first three spots. I think
they were kind of open for like a top ten maybe.
And also boom boom there they were, and Hamlin were
often got the pull. Yeah.
Speaker 4 (03:33):
I mean that's it's Toyotas aren't the ones we want,
you know, it's it's people. If the guy is gonna
punch his ticket, Hamlin getting in there, you know this
would be the day for him as well, because you
know next week is a wildcard. So these guys are
all going to be, you know, frantically trying to get
their ticket punched today because next week at Talladega, anything
can happen, and who knows what's gonna happen. They're more
likely it would be a non playoff driver gonna punch
(03:54):
their ticket in that race. But so today's the day
to get the job done. So it should be some
pretty good action there today and a little bit later
start time to the normal uh four thirty hour time
starts TIGN two thirty by you Dan for today's race.
Speaker 3 (04:06):
Yeah, two thirds out here. I think they did it
because normally the temperatures out here to fall arshall hot
and that's so bad uh today, But that that's kind
of why the start time goals. When he first put
the second rice used to be in September. I remember that, Brian,
you and I are at that wosh. It's like one
hundred and seven. That was bad.
Speaker 4 (04:22):
That was bad.
Speaker 3 (04:23):
It's one of those uh things we all talk about,
you know, because it was like an experience. It's one
of the things that we're gonna talk about this years
from now and we still do on that one. Uh.
As far as uh you know, we're in Vegas. That
means you can actually bet on these races, and these
sportsbooks actually have odds on the race today. You want
to tell you guess who their odds on favorite are today, I.
Speaker 4 (04:43):
Would have to say Hamblon's got to be right.
Speaker 3 (04:44):
Up there he is. There's three of them at nine
to two, Denny Hamlin, Kyle Larson, and Christopher Bell. Yah.
Speaker 4 (04:51):
Larson's really good here as well, and Bell Bell won
the spring race here. So I wouldn't put it out
of the realm of possibility that he that he gets
right up there and punches his ticket. It's all playoff
drivers at the front, I think. Yeah. The lowest starting
playoff driver is Ryan Blaney at fourteenth. So these you know,
the cream rises to the top and races like this.
So you have all those guys right up in the front.
Speaker 3 (05:11):
And speaking of Ryan Blaney, as far as oddwise, you
have those three guys at nine to two. The next
guys in the adolist there are eight to one odds,
and that's William Byron and Ryan Blaney right there. So
Pliny at eight to one is there. Then Chase Brisco
attend to one, Chase Elliott fourteen to one, Tyler Reddick
sixteen to one, Joey Loganald twenty five to one, as
well as Ross Chastain, Bubba Wallace, and Alex Bullman.
Speaker 4 (05:32):
Did you put any money on Logano because that's pretty
good odds for him, I know.
Speaker 3 (05:35):
I did not that. Uh yeah, that's kind of stood out,
you know. And then you go at the other end
of the spectrum on the on your you know, super
long shots. How about Kyle Busch at one hundred to one.
Do you think you'd see that at Vegas?
Speaker 1 (05:49):
No?
Speaker 4 (05:49):
No, not at all, especially that's his home race. But
he's starting thirty second. Where were the ads on she
and Van Gisbergen a great qualifying run for him last
week's Winter starting thirteenth. Didn't see that coming that he'd
be starting that far out front one.
Speaker 3 (06:00):
Hundred and one. Brian who I don't think he's ever
won an Oval and best finished as what eleventh? I think?
Speaker 4 (06:06):
Yeah, I know, but sure later it's gonna happen. You
know what, that would really throw everybody into a tizzy
get his sixth win of the year at Las Vegas.
Speaker 3 (06:15):
That yeah, I mean that, that would that's the definition
of long shot. I remever, the March race here was
kind of a long shot. Josh Berry was the winner
out here.
Speaker 4 (06:23):
Yeah, and he's got a terrible qualified run. He starts
twenty ninth today, right.
Speaker 3 (06:27):
But uh, I those back a couple of weeks ago.
You know, Kansas is what two weeks ago. That's kind
of a similar type track. I think you can look
there to kind of find see how things would go
here today. And that was actually pretty darn good race,
I thought. I mean, that's when where Hammon went and
ran into Wallace right and let Chase Hilly steal the
win from home. But we had up multiple guys in
contention to win that race. Wasn't like one guy went
(06:47):
and dominated.
Speaker 4 (06:48):
No, Yeah, this is the showpiece for these cars. This
is the last mile and a half of the year.
Who would say unfortunately, but that's what it is. Unfortunately,
the last mile and a half race of the year.
And this is a track Vegas that you know, sooner
or later we're gonna go back to Homestead next year
for the for the championship race next year, and who
knows after that what the championship thing is going to
look like. But if you were to end a season, Dan,
(07:10):
don't you think Vegas would also be a good place
for it sometime? I mean, the weather's really great out there.
You got all the vibes in Vegas. You have you know, casinos,
you got everything you need for to be a championship
type event. Bagas would be the perfect place for that
in the future.
Speaker 3 (07:24):
It kind of would now now that they got the
mile and a half together as far as racing wise,
and for a while they're all the cookie cutter tracks
somebody wanted to go to the mall, but now they
actually produce the best show, and yeah, it seems to be. Uh,
it's got the pizzazz to go with it. You know,
the town does. You can sit there and have a
funnel week and you know, there's plenty of places to
stay and things to do in town besides just the
(07:44):
race as well, so you can make a destination out
of it. And I think it could be a race
to have a championship here. I wonder what would be
likely having four guys fight it out kind of like
they do the you know at Phoenix and host that
it always worked, but who knows, you know, that might
change going on two we minute half just four guys
fighting it out, maybe a different format that way. But yeah,
I do agree. I think Vegas could be a season
(08:07):
ending event if they should so want to.
Speaker 4 (08:12):
Yeah, I mean it would be be having big events
back to back is nothing new to Vegas, because I
think your Formula One race would be a week or
two right after that, So I don't know if that
would change the logistics of having something like that with
Formula one having everything being set up. Obviously, NASCAR doesn't
ever want to be overshadowed by anybody, and that would
probably be the case. So maybe that's one of the
reasons what's prohibiting them from maybe doing something like that
in the future.
Speaker 3 (08:33):
That could be because they're already starting to put stuff
up in town here for that F one race coming
up in a month. Each seven of the roles are
kind of getting you know, turned around or different ways
to go, and barriers are up, like around the sphere.
That's all getting set up there where the cars come
through that. So it's already in progress now a month
out now. So Todd, have you been able to keep
(08:55):
track of anything that's going on racetrack wise or here?
Have you been on the road pretty much all?
Speaker 5 (09:01):
You know what I did not? I mean, you raise
your hand if you paid close attention to the Extinity
race yesterday, I'm sorry it was on at the same
time as the Brewers, And to be honest with you,
I didn't care about the the Exterinity race. So because
we were watching the Brewers, but I did want to
(09:23):
mention There's tile 's something I want to mention, but
I should probably wait till after the break, Okay.
Speaker 3 (09:30):
As we have, Yeah, as we had getting set to
go into our first break. We're kind of coming from
all different all different areas of the United States. I'm
out here in Vegas, Brice back in Instburgh, Todd is
in Nebraska and his way to Salt Lake City on
the road. We're going to take our first break and
be back right after this.

out here in Vegas. Brian Schmitz and Newsburg. Todd is
on the road in Nebraska. And we mentioned before we
(12:15):
went to break Todd you mentioned you had some some
newsiders we got need to take care of.
Speaker 9 (12:19):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (12:19):
Well, for those of you who remember, Eddie Kluka was
with us for thirty some years as a co host
of this program. And because Ed was on the program,
we got to know and hear about his two sons.
And Michael, the younger of the two boys, died a
(12:41):
couple of years ago. In fact, he actually died before
Eddie did. And this it was very difficult, obviously, as
you would imagine on ed as it would be for
any parent to lose a kid. But there was three kids.
(13:01):
Michael was the second youngest one and he had older brother, Scott.
Scott passed away this week. He was in his sixties.
I don't know his exact age, and I don't really
know what took his life either. I do know that
he was dealing with the fact that his dad died
two and a half years ago, his brother died about
(13:25):
or three and a half years ago, and the gal
that he lived with passed away earlier this year, so
I don't know if any of that had to do
anything with it. I had a call in to his sister, Kathy,
and I never heard back from her. But it's just
that Mom and Kathy are the only two left out
of the family we're thinking of the klucase. Just a
(13:46):
terrible set of circumstances. And if you'll remember, Scott was
one of the original members of the over the Wall
team for Dale Earnhard was the name of that. They
called themselves the Junkyard Dogs, the junk yard Dogs. They
were both in and I think Scott might have been
(14:09):
there longer or first through something like that, but he
was very very fast at changing tires. And Scott Kluka
was one of those, along with Chocolate Myers, in that
whole gang. And the last time I saw him, of course,
was at Eddie's funeral, which is already can you believe
it two and a half years, Absolutely amazing, and not
(14:31):
that I want to tell you about deaths or anything
like that, but for those of you who remember, the
Boston Red Sox used to play regularly in Milwaukee at
County Stadium, and they had a guy back in the
day named Mike Greenwell, and the guy was just a
great baseball player. He's in the Boston Red Sox Hall
(14:54):
of Fame. His hometown is Fort Myers, Florida, which is
almost ironic because that's where the Boston Red Sox have
their spring training complex. He ended up playing for them.
He's in their Hall of Fame, and he when he
retired from baseball, he started sponsoring race cars and he
(15:14):
finally got a chance to drive race cars, and he
actually did two races in the Craftsman Truck Series in
twenty six, and he passed away this week at the
age of sixty two years old of thyroid cancer. Just
(15:35):
I'm sure there's folks that remember him, probably more from
baseball than racing, but just a very well respected ballplayer
and racer. And he was a county commissioner in Florida,
is what he's been doing the last, you know, several years. So, boys,
that's a cheery couple of news items.
Speaker 3 (15:55):
Yeah, you know, I remember when you know Scott was
he let the Junkyard Dogs. After that he went to
the two cars, Russy, Wallace and Penske. He was there
and there was a voice. Is when the off seasons
had to be early nineties, we used to do Guy
some shows around town during the off season. We had
him at this McDonald's restaurant in uh in Greendale or Greenfield,
(16:16):
and he came back for one of those and was
talking about how they're gonna they're gonna do a four
tire change in less than seventeen seconds. It just never
heard from back then. They're obviously a lot quicker now,
but back then that that was seventeen second mark was
kind of thought of. It was not gonna ever happen.
There's no way you can possibly do it.
Speaker 1 (16:31):
He was on.
Speaker 3 (16:32):
I remember talking to him. He said, we're gonna do it.
You watch, we figured this out. And they went to
Daytona that year and sure enough, and they didn't pull
that off. I just always remember him, like, man, he
he called that they sure had their act together.
Speaker 5 (16:44):
No, kiddy, he's sure reminded me of Eddie Michael, reminded
me of his mom. But Scott was a chip off
the old ed Kluk.
Speaker 3 (16:54):
Yeah, yeah, he was. And and that's kind of as
it's sad, you know, because it's you start thinking being
around this business so long and you meet all these
people and and I guess this is part, you know,
part of life. They they you kind of lose them
in that and it it's as you kind of get
older you start realizing all that that boy, they're there.
You know, you'd be glad for the friends you have
because I mean, they're you know, eventually we're not we're
(17:16):
not going to be around.
Speaker 5 (17:17):
And that's later in his life. He became a school
by instructor and uh and that's what he did. So interesting.
Speaker 4 (17:27):
Interesting is he the one that had a parachute not open?
Speaker 3 (17:32):
That was.
Speaker 5 (17:34):
Yeah, thinking of interesting things to happen.
Speaker 3 (17:39):
Yeah, and then we were all thinking of of Susie
and Kathy. Uh, you know, the surviving there that that uh,
that's gonna be tough and and it always is, you know.
And then I just hopefully you know what we're thinking
of them. Yeah, yeah, you know, moving on now, Brian. Uh,
last week we raced that Roval and it was the
(18:01):
elimination race. We got down to a round of eight
and as you said before in the show, they had
Joey Logano on the ropes and they let them back up.
Speaker 1 (18:09):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (18:09):
Yeah, I mean, talk about an event. We got a
couple minutes here yet. We'll get started on that. Shane
van Gisbergen, first of all, just schooled him again. I mean,
this is it's unbelievable. He won by fifteen seconds last week.
Just an amazing performance by him. For a while there, Larson,
if you're watching it, Larson was kind of giving him
the business. They were racing back and forth, and finally
Shane got by him, and after the race, Larson was like, yeah,
(18:31):
I thought I could race with him for a while,
but then it turned out I'm just better off just
letting him go because he's I mean, he's just that
much better than them on the road courses. It's absolutely insane.
But when it comes to the points, as we expected,
Austin Sindrick got eliminated, Bubba got eliminated, Tyler Redick was eliminated.
Kind of surprising there. Thought maybe he'd have a better
run starting on the pole. And then you have Ross
(18:51):
chas Nain, who if you're watching closely at the end
of the second stage, they had different strategies going on.
Ross chass Day is running in a decent spot, He's
gonna collect some decent stage points. Joey Logano is flounding
around on older tires, and here comes Daniel Swarez in
the ninety nine, passing cars left and right, passing cars.
(19:13):
They get up to the factors, like a lap and
a half to go, and the commentators go, here is Suarez.
He's faster than Logano. We'll see if he passes them.
They didn't make it literally make mention to the point situation.
But I'm watching it. This is inside of the top ten.
You pass him, you're taking a point away from him
from Logano, and that helps out. Ross never passed them
(19:35):
at the end, and it's a head scratcher all the
way up until the last lap. Fast forward to that
Ross Chastain gets passed by Denny ham or yeah, Hamlin
passes Chastain coming to the checker flag. In the last lap,
Ross does a bonzai move coming to the checker flag
and spins out and they both back up into the wall.
But think back to the fact that track House was
(19:56):
unable to communicate to Suarez to get that pass done
at the end, and we could talk about the you know,
the there's talk of what do you call it, like
manipulating the points and all that kind of stuff with
the radio. We can come back with that. But yeah,
think about that for a second, that Suarez didn't get
that pass done.
Speaker 3 (20:13):
Yeah, and that's a good thing that we'll have to
break now and we come back. We're going to dive
into the war because that is kind of the big iss.
She now is aheading these final races of the playoffs.
This is the LT and I will be back right
after these.

Speaker 1 (22:50):
Wow, ninety seven to three the.
Speaker 3 (22:52):
Game, And I'll wish the Packers some good luck as
their game starts coming up later this afternoon. Maybe they
can keep the mojo going. The Walkee Burs put their
way into the NLCS, the Championship Series. If you playing
the Dodgers this week, we all have fun time watching
it out here. But before we went to the break,
(23:15):
we're kind of touched on the fact about this what
they consider maybe race manipulation by the teams as we
knock guys out of the points and then things coming
to hit player, especially the last next three races, because
it'll set up your final four Championship four in Phoenix.
I know at the roval there were some radio communications
they were kind of discussing. NASCAR said there was I
think it was the forty eight car of Bowman came
(23:37):
out and they told them that towards the end it
was like the last segment that come into the finish
and they'll see careful here, Bud, save your tires or
somebody else. There's other team had a communication nice and
easy button and they thought it was like cold, they
don't pass the car in front of you because it's
as a fellow manufacturer of a knock them out of
the playoffs. There are the manufacturers do work together that way.
You know, you had Ford, Chevy and and things like
(23:59):
that do come into play in that way. But now
they're trying to figure out to make sure we can't
have what they call race manipulation like what happened in
Martin's in the last year where we had two Chevies
running a blockade to keep the Toyota guy out. You know,
that was that was pretty obvious. I thought in that
race what you saw there, it's just very hard to
put a black and white line on it and then
definitively say Okay, this is what it is. And they're
(24:19):
looking at radio communications. Now that comes into a whole
new ball game, doesn't that, Brian, Because like Denny Hamlin
had said at the end of that race, if he
had known Ross chest Ain and needed another spot, he
probably had been ready to get smacked in the back
and the last last lap and probably had been more
prepared for it. But the team was afraid to tell him.
Speaker 4 (24:35):
Right, And that's where you really wonder, you know, what
is NASCAR really looking for? So at the end of
the first stage was track house afraid to tell Suarez
to go past Legano because he needed that spot. That
shouldn't be you should always be encouraging your driver to pass.
But I think we've gotten in a position because there's
they're looking back at the radio. There was no communication
for him to do that, and nobody really asks Suarez.
(24:56):
But one would assume if Swarz would have known, that
would have made the difference that it he would have
done it. Same with the end of the race, where
Hamlin said he was never really made aware of the
situation at the end. But listening to a snippet of
a spotter podcast, one of the spotters we're saying, yeah,
they're not allowed to do that stuff. Well, I mean,
what are we doing here, you know? I mean this
playoff system that we created sets up this type of
(25:20):
stuff going on. And as a fan, that's the type
I mean, that's the type of stuff you want to see.
You want to see some competition, you want to see
a little bit of gamesmanship. I mean, that's what makes
the sport cool. And when you're gonna have all these
guys afterwards, so their arms up wheny get out of
the race and go I wish I would have known that.
I mean that that's to me that that's just taking
away from it and just adding to the continued frustration
that people have with this current system.
Speaker 3 (25:41):
Yeah, I think it's a little different. If you tell somebody, hey,
you gotta pass that guy, that's kind of what racing is.
Go back to and get that guy or the guy
behind you needs to pass use and it'll be ready
for It's gonna be some you know, rough racing here
pretty intense as opposed to don't pass that guy, you know,
I mean right around and don't give it an effort.
That that's where I can see that being frowned upon.
But I'm thinking if you can't, if you try to
(26:04):
do the whole system like that, and you try to
keep people from passing somebody or at least not telling
me go go get that spot, I don't. I don't
agree with that.
Speaker 4 (26:12):
No, no, not at all. And I mean, you know,
and Joey afterwards, Joey's just kind of laughing that, you know,
he was not having a good day, his car was
really not that good, and all this stuff going on
behind him. You know, he just you know, kind of
lucks himself into it and and it's it's because of
I think it's just because of poor communication amongst all
parties involved, especially Trackhouse. I think Trackhouse really has no
(26:32):
one to blame but themselves for how that was. I mean,
not to mention Ross Chastain did a lot of self
inflicted wounds all day long leaving the pits, you know,
cooking the corner because you got a really tight ninety
toe corner to leave the pits there, completely blowing that corner,
having to stop and get himself straightened out. They had
another pit stop that was messed up. You know, that
was really set up for him to advance through and
and he didn't get it done.
Speaker 3 (26:54):
And then that's you start looking at that later on
and you start to dissecting the race, you can find
spot it's like that where hey, if you'd have done
this year, it would have been a huge different outcome.
You know, then what happened before Adam? What do you think, Todd,
do you think you know they used to be policing
radio communications now, because I mean that's kind of what
has become to and I'll you're not going to hear
(27:15):
much communicating at all on radio.
Speaker 5 (27:16):
Then it's crazy because they're actually finding people. They're finding
drivers and teams for discussing scenarios. Well, they don't have
a hell of a lot of choice. They're not the
ones that came up with this stupid system. But they
have to figure out what's the best move to make.
And don't tell me it's not important to take care
(27:39):
of a teammate. It is important to take care of
a teammate. There's too much money on the line. But
even more than that, guys, my thought was, how about
a sport that has welcomed the in Shane van Gisbergen
and he's going to be the winningest driver of the
year and he doesn't even have a shot at a championship.
(28:03):
It's not his fault that he's only good on road courses.
It's you know, I think that track house bringing him
in was the most brilliant move they could have possibly made,
because can imagine that the winning is driver and Ali
wins is on road courses.
Speaker 3 (28:20):
It's amazing it is and he stuck with that kind
of situation now where your guy with the most wins
isn't going to maybe have a shot of the championship
at all because he was kind of not so good
on everything. That wasn't a road course and on plus
this whole thing. They have that deal on HBO Max.
I think it is it now where you can see
every in car every team has got an in car
camera with their and he'd SYNCD up with the radio
communications and he can go back and watch that. And
(28:42):
you got people with a lot of time in their
hands to go all week long and go back there
and try to find snippets of of you know, things
that happened. May maybe this might be a manipulation. They
put it out there for the clicks and likes, and
that's kind of I think what's also cause and the stuff.
It's making people kind of afraid to say stuff on
the radio. I mean, do they have wards? Now we're
gonna go back to it. Just it's it. Remember that.
(29:02):
That's what.
Speaker 1 (29:03):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (29:04):
Our contributor Aaron bar just pointed out and I totally
forgot about that. He says, the spotters cannot talk points,
So Savior tires is the code for that. I mean,
why can't they talk points? That should be That makes
no sense because a driver needs to know where he stands.
You know, if you're this many points behind, he should
be able to know, Hey, you need to get those
two spots because you're two points out. I don't get it,
(29:24):
And to me, I don't know. I mean, if this
is the system we're gonna continue to run with, but
let's let's let the game play out the way guys
want to play it out.
Speaker 3 (29:32):
I do see that he don't want people's you know,
conceding spots and just pull over and let three guys
buy well.
Speaker 4 (29:38):
But I mean it's a teammate. We've seen it in
Formula one forever, right, I mean, how many times back
in the day do we see the Ferrari when Schumacher
was driving you know whoever was his teammates particularly pull
over because he needed those points. I mean, it's just
a part of it, I guess.
Speaker 3 (29:49):
I mean, yeah, and here, you know Martinsville, somebody's pulling
that and pulling well, then the guybe's gonna, you know,
start ramming people. Then they have all kinds of chaos
off the figure or something out of as they get
down the end of the year, we're going to stack
away from break exact right after this.

Speaker 3 (32:20):
You know all, we've heard a lot of fans of
screaming or horse power, more horse power, more horse Parrow.
We want more horsepower. That'll fix a lot of our
problems on some of these tracks with the racing where
the more horsepower. They've been reluctant to do it, and
this week it kind of the door cracked open a
little bit. It didn't give a whole lot of more horsepower,
but looks like next to you, Brian, we're gonna be
(32:40):
getting a little bit more horsepower on tracks that are
less than a mile and a half and the road courses.
Speaker 4 (32:45):
Yeah, a little bit. It sounds like they want to
go from the six seventy to seven point fifty eighty
horsepower on under one and a half mile tracks and
the road courses, So Bowman, Gray, Coda, Phoenix, Darlington, Martinsville, Bristol, Watkins, Glenn,
do Over, Nashville, San Diego, Sonoma with Wilkesborough, Iowa, Richmond,
Louden Gateway and the Charlotte Roll because of course we
have to run the roval again. So yeah, it sounds
(33:08):
like that's what they want to do. NASCAR doesn't really
want to come out with it until after the season
is over because they don't want to have an asterisk
behind the guys who win it this year saying oh yeah,
but now they're going to change the way they do it,
and all that kind of stuff. Interesting thoughts coming out
of it. Kyle Larson probably as the best one. Kyle
Arson was talking to a reporter the other day about
it and he goes, I quote, I hope you media
(33:28):
guys don't promote the shit out of it like it's
going to fix everything, because it's not way different from
Jeff gluck So and it's really not because you're only
increasing it by you know, eighty horsepower. Brian Kessalowski, who
was a big ARCA guy, and that's Brad's brother. He
said his Arkom motor in two thousand and seven made
eight hundred horsepower to the real wheels, around eight to
(33:49):
fifty to the flywheel and ran over a thousand miles
on it. And it was a spiable spec engine and
cost half of the current engine. I guess forgot we
how to I guess we forgot how to do that
eighteen years later. So I mean the tech anology has
been there forever. I mean, for NASCAR to think that
this is gonna change everything and do all that. No,
if you remember, guys were clamoring for they wanted a
thousand horsepower nine hundred You know, your your typical sprint
(34:10):
car runs over nine hundred horsepower. Your your typical dirt
late model runs almost nine hundred horse power these days.
So I mean that's what those guys were looking for,
because then you really got to have car control on
those little tracks, and we're really not going to get that, right.
Speaker 3 (34:23):
You're not gonna have to just you know, stick the
car in the corners and I could stick like glue.
You actually can have to hustle the car around probably
and probably actually lifts in the corners too, right.
Speaker 4 (34:31):
Yeah, but I mean yeah, I mean more so if
you had the more horsepower. I mean, imagine Martinsville. If
you have you know, nine hundred horsepower and you're at Martinsville,
I mean, you got to have an egg in your
throttle when you're coming out of the corner, which is
really going to make it hard to drive. And that's
what these that's what the Kyle Larson's, uh, the Chase Elliotts,
you know, the Joy Logano's of the world, they're really
looking for because that's going to really set them apart
from the from the other guys. It'd be really interesting
(34:53):
to see a guy like Connor Zillich, who's really dominating,
Now get him in one of those and see what
kind of car control he really has. No one will
know does it, or does any but you put them
in one of those cars, we'd really find out, I guess.
Speaker 3 (35:03):
I mean before the late people always put it to
me before was uh, you know, the rich kids can't
drive the high horse power cars. So that that's kind
of why they didn't were afraid to do that because
you had kids coming in here that were kind of
their up and coming stars that weren't They didn't think
would handle it. You had a really hustle the thing
with a high horse power car, and they thought they
would make them look bad. And that's just what people
(35:24):
were talking, you know that that you just talk among
the crowds and the scenes kind of thing. But we'll see.
I was would increase it. I think the high horse
part of thing is kind of neat, And then I
like to see a car slide around the turns a
little bit at least and have a driver to have
to hustle the thing.
Speaker 4 (35:39):
Oh, absolutely, yeah, absolutely, that's that's what we're hoping for.
Why they're so reluctant to go all out on this,
I don't know, or let's at least have a test.
I mean, you have the off season coming up. Wouldn't
that be your chance to take the car to you know,
I mean the other year they did it out in Phoenix,
you know, stay after Phoenix Championship Week and let them
things run unlimited at one hundred to a thousand horse
(36:01):
power and let's see what kind of data you get.
You know, let's try it. I don't know why they're
so reluctant to try it, or you know, you open
the season at Bowman Gray instead of having a seven
to fifty you know, horsepower on the thing, have it
wide open. Can you imagine having to really peddle that
thing and get egg onto your throttle at a bone
over Gray?
Speaker 3 (36:17):
That would be awesome, especially it's a race that doesn't
really come for safer points, So you know, why not
shut there and see what you get that Another front,
the old lawsuits still hanging out there, and there's a
little bit more news on that this week. Looks like
they're gonna be headed back to Court for mediation on
October twenty First, I think it is they're kind of
going to have another media to come in to kind
(36:38):
of maybe maybe try to settle this thing. I mean,
this thing right here screams for a settlement. It really does.
I mean, it's getting to the point where we're getting
down to it. And if we can't come to terms
and we butt heads and we have two completely different sides,
one side's going to lose, which that happens in every
case that way, But overall the big picture, I think
we're all going to lose no matter who wins this thing,
(36:58):
because I don't know if there's a big Uh is
there a plan in place, you know, to go forward
where this ends? I haven't really seen one yet.
Speaker 4 (37:06):
No, we've been asking all along, what is what is
Denny and MJ and those guys looking for what what
would constitute a settlement and make them happy? You know,
there's been no dollar figure.
Speaker 3 (37:18):
No, I'm permanent charters probably for one is probably they
probably want more control ye way, So maybe there's a
little bit of leeway that way. And NASCAR is kind
of monopolis like it really is. I mean, and if
you really don't Dove into it. You would see, you know,
if you're a vendor or like a food vendor or
something that they make, you got to get their card scanners,
that kind of stuff.
Speaker 12 (37:38):
You know.
Speaker 3 (37:38):
They you have to follow a set, set protocol and
plan that they put into place, and a lot of
it is using their their equipment there. Whatever they say
is good for that. So I get that's out there.
It's been that way for a long time now. But
I don't see is I don't see a plan on
the other side. This is okay, if we win and
everything is gone and now we get what we want
(37:59):
and ask a souf a bunch of stuff, what's in
place to keep the series going and not as is
it just blown up when we start from scratch it
or is there these teams have some kind of way
to say, hey, how do we keep this going forward? Okay,
you got this power, but now what do you do
with that kind of thing?
Speaker 11 (38:14):
Right?
Speaker 4 (38:15):
Yeah? I think that's the biggest question. So I'm somewhere
along the line. You got to have some parameters as
to what everybody's looking for here and how you determine
who's a winner and who's a loser.
Speaker 3 (38:24):
I think so and Todd still us. Does this thing
not scream settlement.
Speaker 12 (38:28):
To you.
Speaker 14 (38:31):
Guys?
Speaker 5 (38:31):
The road noise is terrible right here. Okay, here's my
thought is, you know you were talking about that new
rules bumping them up eighty horsepower. You know, why would
they even mention this while we have that lawsuit hanging
over us, because there's an asterisk on everything they say,
which is we will have an eighty horsepower bump if
(38:55):
we're still in business.
Speaker 3 (38:58):
Yeah yeah, yeah, tie it together. Yeah, And I have
just noticed that they are kind of making some kind
of concessions towards the people are screaming for more horse
bar Okay, we're gonna kind of float that way now
to we don't like the playoff one and okay, we're
looking at maybe doing a full season point thing back
the way it was. I mean, they're almost kind of
going back to the old school thing. Is that kind
(39:19):
of setting up to see how this loss of the
thing all ends, because if it all goes down, you're
gonna need those people that brought you there to in
the first place, that you kind of kind of brushed
aside for the last couple of years.
Speaker 4 (39:30):
Yeah, yeah, absolutely, yeah, Yeah, there comes full circle.
Speaker 3 (39:35):
Kay, it really is hopefully they can comes and send
them to get together before it's too bad. Just and
there are people that want to, you know, stick it
to NASCAR.
Speaker 2 (39:42):
Great.
Speaker 3 (39:42):
I get that, you know people, and there are the
people that that you know, I don't like a guy
like Jordan coming in here and rock and all boat
but either way the matter. It was at the end
of the day, we have to have something in place
to race with and uh, you know, hopefully cool heads
of prevailion and they'll come, they'll come together with some
kind of subtle but uh, Brian, I know it's real quick.
Before we go to our break a Chicago Land tickets
(40:05):
went on sale on Friday. As we go back there
July third to the fifth, back to the Ole, back
to the old Speedway, let's kind of looking forward to
it because I think it's period.
Speaker 4 (40:13):
So yep, yep, they went on sale. I got an
email about it. I didn't open it yet to take
a look, but yeah, if you want tickets to that
race and you want some seats, I'd recommend getting them.
One would hope it would be a tough ticket by
the end of it and then they could fill that
place up and really show people that you know we
want them back.
Speaker 3 (40:29):
That's right. I'll check that out if you can, and
I'm going to head to a break. We'll be back

up at Cedar Lake the one hundred thousand dollars to

quietly good season. And finally, the big race of the

at Lacrosse Speedway. Remember the Octoberfest race week, and wrapped
up with the ASA Midwest two the october Fest two hundred.
Ty Majeski got the win. It's his fifth Octoberfest title,
the tias Joe Scher for the most of all time.
I got to say about that race. I got to
get a call to Penn Soder. You know, he was
the fastest qualifiers there at the back and had all
that money on the line. He finished fifth, so it
(45:39):
wasn't like he didn't get him a run for it.
I mean, it was pretty good for a young team
like that to get it a shot and a good
day there. Your overall, you're champion for the ASA Midwest Tour.
For the season, it was Casey Johnson who edged out
gave Summers and good for Casey, you know, I mean
he was it kind of completed a comeback up sort
I think because I remember in the last couple of
years he kind of didn't run a full season because
he had those issues that kept him out of the
(46:00):
car for a while, so I think that kind of
brought it back where you run the season and he
got the championship, So good for him.
Speaker 4 (46:06):
That's any put a post out there that he plans
on going to Florida to run both the Big Lee
Race and the Derby, and he's looking for some assistance.
So if anybody out there wants to give a you know,
a little smaller team a little bit of a hand
to go down to Florida and compete.
Speaker 3 (46:20):
That's right. I know he went down and tried a
couple of years ago and they came up just short.
To be cool having to go down there and actually
make the event, and he is. Cas is a good
dude man. He works and he helps other people out
and then if you know, you can call people racers
and case he's a racer if you if you get
to that moniker, So good for him. Rookie of the
Year and at a Sam the West who was Cody
(46:41):
King a good run from him in that fourteen car
this week and they're all in Winchester, Indiana. It's a
big Winchester for Hard Week and the ASA Stars National
Tour is there on Friday night, the cra Jags All
Stars Tour ran there and Albert Francis was the winner
of that race and the champion there was Billy van
Meter for the Jaggs All Stars Tour. Today the Winchester
(47:02):
four hundred, it's the fifty fourth annual. That track is
bad fast. Your pollsitter is time and Jeski Billy van
Meter qualified second. Some other notable starters Cole Butcher, the
point leader for the Star Series is fifth. Albert Francis
who won on Friday night, he'll start sixth. Stephen Nassy
is there, he'll start ninth. Derek Cross went down there
in the ninth car. He starts eighteenth. And Jesse Bernhagen
(47:23):
is going to make it a start that down at
Winchester in his twenty eighth car. The principal is going
to go to school here at Winchester. It's a pretty
bad fast track. He starts twentieth. That'll be on Track TV.
I think Green Flake is like around noon.
Speaker 4 (47:38):
I think Brown yes noon.
Speaker 3 (47:40):
And that's a survival race. I mean Winchester is bad
fast as it is, and four hundred laps there, you
got to survive the finisher to pull it off. It's
hard on equipment, it's hard on drivers. It's a pretty
tough race. That's kind of cool to see enough many
cars go down there for that time of Jeske being
on the poll could be a favor here. He not
won at Winchester, He's only run a couple of them,
but I seem maybe get the victory there or even
(48:01):
like you know, guys like Kraus We got a good
run in Anderson earlier this year, you know, to make
a statement and Jesse Bernhagen going down there. Uh from
here that that's kind of cool seeing these guys kind
of venture out, you know, and and get around there
and uh kind of experience, right, show them, show those
guys down and what we got here. So I think
that should be a good deal. It's if you get
(48:21):
a chance on track TV, get a chance to watch it.
It's pretty good coverage. I work with those guys at
a bunch of races during the summer and it's kind
of fun and they do a good job at what
they do. Uh coming up uh, And also touched back
and said the lacross the October Fest, that was an
un successful week in Midwest. Who had a good good
season again, and they wrapped that one up. Hopefully they'll
have their schedule out for next year coming up to
(48:42):
see where they're all gonna go.
Speaker 4 (48:43):
And uh, one other result from here woulds there arka
ran Friday night at the bull Ring. I had a
lot of weather there, didn't they in Trevor Holderston got
the win.
Speaker 2 (48:50):
They did.
Speaker 3 (48:51):
Yeah, Huddleston in the fifty car was the winner. But
it actually rained in Vegas. Who said it doesn't rain
in Vegas once in a while, it does, and Friday
night it did a lot and a thunderstorm growth through
here and delayed that race and actually caused a little
bit of flooding arounds on here because the draining isn't
used to having that much rain at one time. Get
that in a desert. So that was a late night
there at the Boring. But they did get the event
(49:13):
in and Trevor Hollis Huddles was the winner on the
RCO West Tour. That's pretty much all your results. They
kind of winding down. Now we're gonna start heading to
some of the specials and now the out of state specials.
You know, I'm gonna have Nashville coming up. And you
sit down in Florida, the Big Lee Race and the
Snowball of course on end the year.
Speaker 4 (49:29):
One other quick news note that I forgot to mention
on the dirt side of it. Some sad news out
of the sprint car world. Bobby Allen, one of the
original Outlaws, passed away this week. The name familiar with
his son Jacob Allen has been racing for quite a
while and his grandson Logan Schuhart. They run Shark Racing.
Long time fixture in the pits. If you ever were
up in the Wisconsin area, he who's good friends with
the McGraths. He'd always be hanging out with the Joel
(49:52):
McGrath and Mitch McGrath's dad and that whole family. So
some sad news. One of the original Outlaws, Bobby Allen,
passed away this week.
Speaker 3 (49:58):
Yeah, let's talk about influential guy. I mean, how many
people have got you know, start to them, Yeah.
Speaker 4 (50:03):
And ruffee Bobby Allen to call them exactly, And.
Speaker 3 (50:06):
We're gonna head our final break. We back, give you
our picks today for the Vegas races and we back
after this.
Speaker 9 (50:11):

Speaker 3 (52:12):
Game hand back for our final segment here on the
LTN hour. I'm then we're gona here in Las Vegas
getting ready for the south point four hundred, the playoff
race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway Speedway. Brian Schmid is
back in Newsburg, Wisconsin, had his regular home base. Todd
is on the road heading eventually to Arizona, but had
(52:34):
his way to South Lake City right now, and guys,
I guess it's time to kind of think, who are
who's going to win this race? Who are our picks
for Las Vegas? Todd, do you want to kick it off?
Speaker 5 (52:45):
I was really convinced that I was gonna take Christopher
Bell today because those toyotas are good. I hate toyotas,
but they're pretty good, we have to admit. But you know,
I have to be true to myself. And I picked
William Byron to win the championship, and I think I'm
gonna pick him to make to punch his ticket to
(53:06):
the final four. Let's do it today.
Speaker 11 (53:09):
Why not?
Speaker 3 (53:11):
He's run really good. I mean, the Hendrick Carr is
kind of surprised everybody how they came out of the
box pretty strong. And Byron especially led practice for a while.
I did more so than than Larson and Brian. Who's
your pick?
Speaker 4 (53:24):
Yeah, I'm gonna do the same thing as Todd. I
kind of picked Denny Hamlin to to be in the
final four this year and and make his way to
the top. And he's the point leader going into this
final round, and he starts on the poll today and
I don't see anything changing there. I see Denny Hamlin
punching his ticket today.
Speaker 3 (53:40):
All right, I'm if you leave Christopher Bell out there,
I'm gonna take Christopher Bell. It's how many times he's
been what second here at this race and just misses it.
Time to get the winning and put yourself to the
Phoenix for the final four and actually get the job done.
He's been there so many times now with the shot
and they never seem to capitalize on it. And last
year he got shut out at Martinsville. So the time
is to do it now. Remember last year, wasn't he
(54:02):
leading this race late when Joey kind of beat him
on the few mileage entire tires type deal.
Speaker 4 (54:08):
Yes, yes, that was the case, and he was so
depressed with himself for not getting that deal done.
Speaker 3 (54:14):
Right. I mean, I think it's gonna be a decent race,
So I really do. I think you got a lot
of good guys, all your playoff guys that are left.
You know, they always say we all we talk about
is the playoff guys, But look at the guys that
are left. Those are probably the eight best guys. I mean,
there's really nobody that squeaked their way into this round
everybody here you can lay out a legitimate path to
a championship. So I think that'll be kind of kind
(54:35):
of neat to see for a while that that this
might get pretty close as we get going here and
look at Kansas. I mean that that finished at Kansas
was outstanding. I thought, would you think did yeah?
Speaker 4 (54:46):
And if you look at the reset the way these
points are set up, we didn't mention that earlier, but
as you reset this now and go to these final
eight drivers, you have Denny Hamlin, he's eight to the good,
Blaney is six to the good, and he's the farthest
down starting guy today starting twelve, Kyle Larson Ford to
the good, Byron for to the good. On the outside
looking in Bell he's four out, Chase Elliott fourteen out,
(55:07):
Chase Briscoll fourteen out, and Joey Logano twenty four out.
So this is where your playoff points, the points you
put in your bucket we talk about all year long,
really come into play because that's what's separating where these
guys are as they go forward, and as you can see,
Joey Logano not having a good year all year, twenty
four points out going into this final race. I don't
(55:27):
think he'd be able to point his way into this
when you look at the guys in front of him,
So I think, you know he's gonna happen to leg and.
Speaker 3 (55:33):
It could happen. There's a wildcard races next week, I
tell it, and Martin's are really it's allopnier who can
set your ticket to Phoenix On the Exfinity side, they
ran that race last night and Top mentioned it was
on the same time as the baseball game, and I'll
admit to I watched the baseball game because the Brewers
Cubs is kind of a big deal. But Eric Almarola
got to win in the nineteen car. Now that also
(55:55):
was supposed to could have put a driver into the
final Phoenix Final Four. It didn't because it didn't run
the whole schedule, So the car is in the Owners
Points the Car Owners Final Four. The nineteen car will
be there, but because it's had multiple drivers this year,
El Morola did not put his take it in here,
so it will be another spot open for points.
Speaker 4 (56:13):
But it did change the way the rest of the
season is going to go because now they plan on
having Eric Almerol run that car the rest of the year.
Justin Bonceignor was supposed to run that car, I believe
in Martinsville and Phoenix, and they made the announcement late
last night that Elmrole is going to drive that car
for the rest of the year to try to win
the championship for Gibbs, because Gibbs only has one car
in the final eight for the Infinity Series right now,
(56:35):
that's Brandon Jones, and he's on the outside looking in
as we go to Talladega next week.
Speaker 3 (56:39):
Right So, and that race yesterday, it was pretty much
al Morola, Connor Zilitz and Jesse Love are probably two
or three fastest cars there. I think Nick Sanchez had
his Nick had his hand in it for a little
while there to In fact, Love and Sanchez had a
little bit of altercation up to roll afterwards about how
hard they were racing each other for the win on
that But Aaron Elmer Rolla, I thought, had the fastest
(57:02):
car all day in the over long run speed type think.
And that's what he kind of ran Village down becau
Zilli's you know, kept him honest at least. And as
we go to Phoenix, member, you know, Zilis really isn't
in there yet. He's probably gonna get the points position
one of them.
Speaker 4 (57:14):
But when you look at these points right now, they
got they have Talladega, Martinsville and Phoenix left. Connor Zilich,
this is one race into this now he's eighty two
points to the good. That's insane. Yeah, that's two races almost.
Justin Augeyer he's forty four to the good. Jesse Love
is twenty to the good, and then it gets tight
after that. Sam Mayer he's eight to the good. In
(57:37):
on the outside looking in is Brandon Jones he's eight out.
Sheldon Creed twenty one out, Carson Koppole twenty two out,
and Sammy Smith is twenty four out going to Talladega. Talladega.
Like you said, it's it's a definite crap shoot, and
any one of these guys could win an or none
of them at all. And with there being a different
winner last week, that means there's gonna be at least
two points positions for this deal. And then depending upon
(57:59):
what happens to Tallady Big and Martinsville, you know, I'd
take Colors Village is this you know, he's probably going
to be in there no matter what. But the rest
of it I think is up for grabs.
Speaker 3 (58:08):
Right especially those two wild cind of races next week
at Talladegga. There's really no strategy to survive that. I mean,
guys have tried to ride it out on the back
and try to avoid the big trouble and he still
gets swept up on it. There's really no way to
do it but just go out and run your race
and see where it lands. And that's why on the
cup side, even to Vegas, if you're one of those
playoff guys, you can put your ticket to Phoenix and
(58:30):
app to worry about that the next two weeks. That's
a huge deal today, which makes us race pretty important.
Thanks for joining us for this Sunday morning. We've been
kind of scattered all over the place this week. We'll
be back next week, you know, same time, and we'll
head me on to Talladegga weekend and see how we
move on here with the season as we get down
to the championship in Phoenix. Come up for everybody here.
(58:52):
We want to thank you Matt Molci for putting us
all together, turning the knobs and making it all work out.
So it sounds pretty decent on the air, and I
thank PJ. You'll be with us hopefully next week, for
setting this whole thing up on the meaning wise they
get this going. And of course Todd Bailey on the
road in Nebraska on his way to Salt Like City. Brian,
thanks for joining us here from Oosberg from holding the
(59:15):
fort down there. And I'm coming to you from the
twenty second four at the MGM Grant here in Vegas
and we're getting ready for a race today. Let's have
a good day. We'll see you next week.
