Speaker 1 (00:09):
The lt N Hour.

Speaker 2 (00:10):
Let's talk NASCAR with your host Todd Bailing, co hosts
Brian Schmidt, PJ. Newedleman, and producer Dangerous Dan Margetta. Call
the show anytime at four one four four two one
seventy nine oh one. And now the creator and host
of the Fastest Hour and Radio, Todd Bailing.

Speaker 3 (00:35):
Hello there, everybody, Glad you could join us. We're off
to Saint Louis. It's one of those tracks that's a
reasonable amount of time from Milwaukee, and I would guess
that there's a group that has probably driven down there.
We know of at least one of our listeners down there,
but it's it's right on the damn freeway. You drive

(00:56):
right by it on your way to Saint Louis, which
is right across the river from the track. Todd Bailing
and Beautiful Linden Station, Wisconsin, joined by my three partners,
beginning with Utzburg, Wisconsin's own Brian Schmid.

Speaker 4 (01:11):
Hi, Brian morning, Yes, good crowd expected in Saint Louis
today and they finally get some really good weather to
have a race. The last couple of years they've had
races in June when it's been the super hot type
of weather you have down there, and judging by the
good Exfinity crowd last night and the possible sell out today,
this new date has worked out well for them.

Speaker 3 (01:31):
It certainly has PJ. Neudleman over on the west coast
of Wisconsin and Trump alone Wisconsin.

Speaker 5 (01:36):
High Page, Hi there, and hopefully NASCAR is paying attention
to the big crowds coming out in the Midwest.

Speaker 3 (01:44):
So we can keep some Midwest dates on the calendar.
Our own producer, director Dan Marguetta High Danil and Saint
Francis USA.

Speaker 6 (01:53):
Yeah, good morning, and round two of the playoffs, and
throw out everything I said last week. Who's gonna be
the first cars out? Because after Darlington I thought was
gonna happen. It is completely messed up.

Speaker 3 (02:02):
Yes, it certainly was. Chase Briscoe was your winner of
the first one. I kind of stunk it up in
his Toyota. It's true. Not one of us picked that Toyota,
but we did take other Toyota. Do you know the
six of the top seven finishers at Darlington were Toyotas.
My god, we'll get into you know how other things

(02:27):
happened last week at Darling, but it wasn't a one
of your more compelling races to watch on TV, which
is good because Dan and I were at Slinger Speedway
last week and you two must have been watching two
things at once.

Speaker 7 (02:39):
Huh.

Speaker 3 (02:40):
Yes, I'm guessing it seems like to me. Yep, So yeah,
that's another story. Today. Denny Hamlin is on the pole.
Oh good, one hundred and thirty nine point one nine zero.
It's a mile and a quarter track, interesting size. I've
never seen the track, and I guess it would be
nice to actually see at sometime thirty two point three

(03:02):
to three zero to get around the place. And that
Toyota then a Chevrolet. Kyle Larson is second, and this
Sprisco guy who suddenly is elbowing his way into the
conversation and driving like a guy that wants to be champion.
His third Ross Chass Stain, who hasn't really done very much,
is a fourth. And Ryan Blaney, who all three of

(03:25):
you picked to win the championship, not me, but you
three all did, will start fifth today. So interesting. Now
it's televised on USA. The green flag is at two
to five hour time today, perfect weather, seventies zero percent

(03:45):
chance of any kind of precipitation, sounds good, doesn't it?
The bad news an hour and twenty minutes after the
green flag falls to start this race. The Green Bay
Packers start their season, by the way, here on ninety
seven three of the game at three twenty five, so
you get one hour and twenty minutes before you start

(04:06):
either juggling back and forth or watching one or the other.
So that's what's on the schedule for today, Brisco by
moving on to the next round. Already, there's only two
car as far as I can tell, that are in
any kind of trouble right now, Barry and Bowman. Bowman,

(04:28):
and both of them are nineteen points out, which is
at this point kind of significant. Actually, you have to minimize,
as we all know by now, in this what we're
calling the chase instead of the playoffs, because it makes
a hell of a lot more sense the way this works,
you have to minimize your problems, and those two have

(04:48):
already had problems well. By the way, Nascar, I don't
know if you guys saw this is pretty good. NASCAR
has had this deal where the fastest lap of the
race gets a bonus point, but the last place car. Oh,
by the way, Brian's picked last week Josh Berry came
out of the pits eight thirty thirty eight points behind,

(05:12):
thirty eight positions twenty eight positions behind, and set the
fastest lap of the race got the bonus point. So
NASCAR this week is already saying we are going to
take a look at the at the rule next year,
and it looks as though we're going to go to
lead lap cars only. Well, no, why is that You're

(05:34):
going to take away the cop the one little accomplishment
the guy had.

Speaker 4 (05:38):
Yeah, that makes no sense to me. I don't I
don't get it. I mean, in Formula one, you see
that a lot of car has a problem. At least
they have something to race for. And if your car
is not junked and you're able to go in and
get it fixed and come.

Speaker 7 (05:49):
Back out, why can't you try to set the fastest lap.

Speaker 4 (05:52):
To me, this makes no sense at all, and it's
NASCAR's once again attempt to just focus on the cars
that are in the front and not focus on any
buddy that's not relevant to the front. And to me,
that's not what racing is. There's cars, thirty eight cars
on the track for a reason, and they all you know,
aren't they all can't be in the front at the

(06:12):
same time, so you got to let them be able to,
you know, to have something to go for if your
day has gone bad right away.

Speaker 3 (06:18):
It's a further manipulation, is what it is. And they
are manipulation happy, and don't you try to manipulate anything
real do the manipulating. And if you try to change that,
oh my god, it hits the fan, doesn't it.

Speaker 5 (06:35):
And then they wonder why Michael Jordan wants to pull
their pants down.

Speaker 3 (06:39):
Yeah, and spank them in front of the world. And
so far, you know, it looks as though Michael Jordan
is winning this thing. We are. Every day that goes by,
we are one step closer to NASCAR having to open
their books. And the question is how close do we
get before NASCAR may make a settlement because one thing

(07:02):
that Jordan has said from the beginning, I am open
to a settlement. So keep that in mind because that
is hanging over this entire season, whether they want it
to or not. It's a negative that NASCAR doesn't want
to have to deal with. And their pants are already

(07:23):
halfway to their ankles, so let's.

Speaker 6 (07:24):
See sure they're winning though, I mean, it seems they
get their injunction got denied, so they have to keep
running as open cars. I mean, it's it's there. They
haven't had the winds lined up in court lately like
they had in the beginning, So I'm not sure i'd
say they're winning. I'd say it's kind of a draw
right now.

Speaker 3 (07:40):
Okay, except for one thing. Michael Jordan quote, I've lost
that much in a casino already. Uh, he's not worried
about this, He'll just take it out of his pocket.
You want rich guys in our sport, Yeah, prolific, some
of the greatest athletes in the history of athletic says,

(08:00):
and this is what you get.

Speaker 5 (08:02):
But then we've talked about it too them. What do
you really win?

Speaker 8 (08:05):
Then?

Speaker 3 (08:06):
Well, what we all as fans have to be afraid
of is that this is going to be a kick
to the uts nay for our sport, and it's heading
that way. I still think there's going to be a
settlement before they get the court.

Speaker 7 (08:21):
Do any of you agree?

Speaker 9 (08:24):
I hope so I've the most logical outcome.

Speaker 7 (08:29):
That would be nice. But well we'll see.

Speaker 3 (08:32):
Jordan is he lit a cigar and he's leaning back
in his chair and putting his feet up and we'll
see what happens now. And NASCAR silk suited lawyers are
going crazy. It's a beautiful thing, but how good is
it for the fans? That's what I'm worried about, and
for the sport in general. They have raced here at

(08:53):
this track. The Infinity Series raced yesterday and it was
a battle of the itches. I guess it wasn't much
of a battle. Connor Zillich and Willie Swallich we're top two.
That's four straight for Connor Zilla. His name is actually
pronounced Zillish and it's Swallich. So you know, it drives

(09:16):
me crazy when they pronounce and every announcer calls them
Connor Zilich. Bothers the hell out of me. But I
bothered by silly things.

Speaker 10 (09:25):
Uh.

Speaker 3 (09:26):
There are dominators in each of the Exfinity and Truck series.
Zillis has been the absolute dominant force, winning what is it?

Speaker 7 (09:34):
Four straight? Was that his eighth or ninth?

Speaker 9 (09:37):
Ninth?

Speaker 7 (09:38):
Ninth? Unbelievable?

Speaker 3 (09:40):
And Corey Heim has been the dominator in the truck series.
The question is will either of them because of NASCAR's
you know, yeah patch on the head, you had a
nice regular season. Now we're gonna throw your name in
a blender and hope that it comes out and you
will actually win the championship for either of the drivers.

(10:00):
But what happens to him next year? We know Connor
Zillis is on his way to the Cup Series. He
will be taken over that well ninety nine now, I
don't know if they'll change the number or not. And
Corey Heim, Now, what is the plan for him for
the future. He has run a couple of races for
twenty three eleven, but what what's the plan? Does anybody know?

Speaker 5 (10:23):
I think Dan had mentioned that he was going to
be with the Oh my goodness, I lost the name
of the race team.

Speaker 9 (10:30):
They're talking about long Sfinity races next year. We can
get into that next break.

Speaker 7 (10:34):
Yeah, that sounds good.

Speaker 3 (10:35):
Well we'll talk a little more about that and anything else.

Speaker 7 (10:38):
You want to give us a holler for four to
one four four two one, seventy nine oh one will

Speaker 16 (13:27):

Speaker 3 (13:27):
We were talking about Corey Heim, who certainly has shown
that he is among the elite drivers, and I can't
imagine that he needs any time at all in the
Infinity Series. That's the normal progression, but there have been
drivers that have jumped and such as Kurt Bush, right.

Speaker 6 (13:48):
I think it's just a situation where there's no room
to put him anywhere. I mean, he's a great prospect
for Toyota coming up, but there's not many Toyota rides
that are available right now that somebody wants to put
them into. It's kind of weird because he's got such
a great, great season in the Truck Series and the
talk is he's probably going to go to Expending next year,
maybe with Sam Hunt racing for some races and maybe
a few Cup races like you did this year with

(14:10):
twenty three eleven, provided you know, the lawsuit doesn't change that.
And I'm surprised, like even on the Expinity side, you know,
Joe Gibbs has got some pretty good expirity cars as
he does not bring enough money.

Speaker 9 (14:20):
I mean, is that what it is?

Speaker 6 (14:21):
Because I think he's good enough performance wise to do something.

Speaker 3 (14:24):
Yeah, it seems odd that it's not with support from Toyota.
I think that's the key here. Is Sam Hunt a
Toyota team.

Speaker 6 (14:33):
Yeah, they were like a satellite kind of Gibbs team.
It's that twenty six and twenty four car.

Speaker 3 (14:38):
I think, Oh, okay, Yeah, they don't do much anyway,
that's probably why you have Well, it's not the worst
thing if they have support from Toyota, they have them
go over there. But again, you know, we're watching the lawsuit.
It's something we have to consider in the courts here.
What's it going to do to our sport?

Speaker 6 (14:55):
But he's Toyota's probably the best prospect right now. And
if they can't f a place to put them, I
don't know, PJ what anything. Maybe another manufacturer might find
a place for him.

Speaker 5 (15:05):
I would bet they would, and it's not that far
out of the realm of possibility. I don't think he's
really beholden to Toyota. I think he would much rather
get into a better ride if they make him wait
too long.

Speaker 3 (15:16):
Hm. And you know it's all up to the manufacturers.
What do they want to do, what do they want
to spend, where they going to put them? And how
are we going to get one of those very valuable
thirty six or is it forty charters? And where is
it going? Well, there'll be any charters by the end
of the year. That's another possibility.

Speaker 7 (15:35):
You know.

Speaker 5 (15:35):
The thing is, Oh, there's so much energy right now
behind Corey Heim that if they don't get off the
stick and make something happen for him, I think there
would be a manufacturers that even if he can't bring
as much money as they want, they might be willing
to take a chance on the talent and take that gamble.

Speaker 7 (15:53):
Certainly seems like it would pay off, you'd think.

Speaker 6 (15:55):
I mean, look around, are there any teams out there
right now that rides that might might be on the
hot seat that probably? Don't think to everybody said the
seven car was going to be you know from Spire
was going to be one out there? Anything else out there?
I mean, the forty eight isn't doing much at all.

Speaker 3 (16:10):
Yeah, that's and of drivers available bowl By the way,
Denny Hamlin was asked this week because his drivers at
twenty three to eleven are technically free agents right now,
and he did say that he thought Reddick was going
to stick around. It seems like that would be the

(16:31):
logical thing to happen. However, let's just say that, you
know Bowman, the underachiever over there at Hendrick. Let's say
mister Hendrick wanted to replace him. Well, it seems to
me it would be worth a phone call at this
point over to Reddick to say, Hey, let's just say

(16:52):
I would want to put you in the forty eight car.
Would you come over and race for me? Who wouldn't
say yes? I mean, it seems to me that would
be a premiere step up from the twenty three to
eleven car?

Speaker 7 (17:06):
Do you guys agree with that?

Speaker 5 (17:08):
I think it kind of depends on just how loyal
Reddick feels. I mean, he's had a lot of special
moments with Michael Jordan. I don't know if he would
want to stab a guy in the back that just
recently said that he's lost more money. Yeah, you know,
you know, I mean that's they kind of took a
little bit of a gamble on him when they brought
him in yeah.

Speaker 6 (17:30):
Remember he was in the head car, remember, and it
was kind of a surprise on a podcast. There's my
driver for next year.

Speaker 17 (17:36):
Sorry, yeah, you know, I know.

Speaker 3 (17:42):
That's it's all up in the air right now, and
it's it's going to be interesting to watch. We had
a couple of deaths in the racing family this week.
A guy you may not remember very well, Steve Bird.
I had not thought of him in a long time,
but Kenny Wallace on social media brought him up. He

(18:03):
won four different Exfinity Series or BUSH Series at the
time championships with four different drivers, Steve Grissom, Rob Moroso,
Johnny Benson, and Kenny Wallace. He passed away. Didn't see
any details about what that was about. And the other
one was a guy that we got to watch race

(18:23):
several times, five times at least at Daytona, Phil Barkdall.
He was eighty seven years old. He lived in Vinton,
Iowa in the summer, and like myself, spent his winters
in Arizona, but always considered himself a Iowa guy. Passed
away this week. Phil Barkdall his most important and memorable

(18:47):
moment in NASCAR. Dan might have had nothing at all
to do with winning any races.

Speaker 6 (18:52):
No, I remember he's involved in the big record Richard
Petty in the Daytona five D and nineteen eighty eight
when he went flipping down the front straight away and
everybody was looking. And how he would be after that.

Speaker 3 (19:02):
Yeah, not a good thing to be remembered for. No, No,
I always thought of this guy. I mean, because really,
did anyone else hear of him racing in any other
series at any time, dirt, asphalt, anywhere.

Speaker 7 (19:16):
I don't know. I really hadn't so I.

Speaker 6 (19:20):
Kind of back then we didn't really have a lot
of coverage of that stuff, so it's hard to tell.
We only had what was on the limited stuff that
was on, you know, the NASCAR races on Sunday. We
didn't really hear much of the other short track stuff
going on around the country. List you've subscribed to, like
a racing paper or something like that. That wasn't like that,
you know, it wasn't like the information there is right
now you can get it anywhere.

Speaker 7 (19:39):
Right, No kidding?

Speaker 3 (19:41):
Well, I always kind of pictured him as a nice
guy that had money from something that would just make
sure that he had a couple of high profile rides.
He had to have enough talent because they had. If
you'll remember, it was a thing to actually make the
Daytona five hundred in those years.

Speaker 7 (20:00):
You had to beat.

Speaker 3 (20:00):
Some cars on the in the one to twenty fives
and the qualifiers which they were at the time Insta
one fifties that they are now so interesting stuff. Phil
Barkdall passed away at the age of eighty seven. We'll
be right back.

Speaker 7 (20:15):
This is it.

You know, when you're drafted that high, it's like, okay,
we want to see what you have. Anthony Edwards is

The Dan Patrick Show. You the Dan Patrick Show. We

Speaker 3 (23:19):
Last week at Darlington the weekend, NASCAR was still on
top of the TV ratings one point eight eight million,
which was down considerably from the year before for one
reason or another which I can't explain, and more I
think we were this is the way it kind of

(23:42):
should be. It's you know, it seems like the trucks
and the Xfinity Series have been outdrawing other major groups
that I couldn't understand. Formula One was second, Indy Cars
on Fox was third last week, then the NHRA was fourth,
and they all were ahead of the Exfinity Series' on
CW and the truck series on FS one last week. So,

(24:05):
for one reason or another, it seems like it's hard
to tell from one week to the other. Word, people
are gonna.

Speaker 4 (24:12):
That Infinity race was later in the day two on Saturday.
I don't know if that had something to do with it,
you know, being out in Portland. I don't think that
took the green flag till like six o'clock our time,
which is seven o'clock on the East Coast, and that
makes it difficult than a holiday weekend.

Speaker 6 (24:26):
I think NHRA was the US Nationals, right, That's one
of their main events, yep.

Speaker 4 (24:29):
And that was on Monday, and that was the only
thing really going on. Well, that was on my TV.

Speaker 7 (24:34):
When I was doing stuff on Monday.

Speaker 5 (24:36):
And as you mentioned before we started the show too, Brian,
special events are kind of where it's at these days.

Speaker 4 (24:42):
Yeah, definitely. I mean short track side or wherever you're looking.
Special events people go to them, They flock to them,
and people will make a point to watch them. So
when you know that the US Nationals is the top
NHRI race of the year. Tony Stewart won the regular
season championship, think about that. How tough that is for
a guy that had had and raced and you know,

(25:03):
he doesn't have dreg racing in his background until he
met a woman that's involved in it.

Speaker 7 (25:07):
You know, won the regular season championship.

Speaker 4 (25:09):
I think people tuned in to see that too, and
he made it all the way to the finals and
just lost by a whisker in the championship.

Speaker 6 (25:15):
But thinking about that the Southern five hundred is kind
of a crown jewel, isn't it.

Speaker 7 (25:18):
Yeah, yeah, well, I mean it still was number one.

Speaker 3 (25:22):
However, why, I mean at one point eight, they were
down two point four from last year.

Speaker 4 (25:28):
Why was it on? It was on USA network this year?
Was maybe on NBC last year? I mean, I don't
have that in front of me to see what. Well
that would answer the question, though I don't know what
channel it was on last year versus this year. USA
is a little more of a niche channel compared to
you know, if it was on the big network for
some reason I can't remember.

Speaker 3 (25:47):
Pay Yeah, yeah, whether it's satellitter or a cable, Yeah,
you had to pay more to see it. Well, still
it must be of some concern when numbers drop as
much as what they did. Hey, I've question which I
really don't know the answer to. But I was thinking
this week about how the season has not really been

(26:09):
very good, to say the least for Kyle Busch. He
this is a guy that won a race every year
for what I think it was eighteen years in a row,
and then you know, now he goes over to Childress.
We know Childress isn't a top Flight team like they
used to be. But that doesn't mean they're not, you know,

(26:30):
a regular supported Chevrolet team. And wasn't the fact that
you know, these cars are all identical that they should
be at least competitive. Well, why wouldn't they be able
to hire a crew chief over there? And that would
change the program around. And I'm thinking specifically of Rodney Childers,

(26:52):
what is he doing these days?

Speaker 9 (26:56):
And it was about of cars to her team.

Speaker 3 (26:59):
So so really he's not working in NASCAR anywhere?

Speaker 7 (27:02):
Right?

Speaker 6 (27:03):
No? A no, since he left Spire. I don't know
if he does. He have a contract with Spires, can
he cannot go and work to a certain point. I
don't know any of the details of that, but it
is kind of surprising that he hasn't been anywhere, and
he's been on X and saying that it's not, you know,
not like he doesn't want to come back and try
to do something. I think that great bit with him
and Kyle Busch. I just think it'd be a veteran

(27:24):
driver like he had with Kevin Harvick. I just don't
know the workings at Children's and what's going on there.
What are the problems there? I mean, is it are
they that slow that nobody can fix that. I mean,
the three car won.

Speaker 17 (27:35):
A race well.

Speaker 5 (27:36):
And then Austin Dillon say once in an interview post
race interview that he's been kind of fighting a little
bit with his grandpa about the direction to go with
some things and Richard is not really wanting to move
in that direction, that Austin would like to see the
team go.

Speaker 17 (27:52):
And I think there's a rubb right there.

Speaker 4 (27:54):
And just three days ago he had a tweet. Rodney
Childers had a tweet that says, I miscompeting. Yeah, every
single day I miss being a leader like I was
good at. I know I can still do it better
than most and I'm more determined than ever. But if
no one is willing to take a chance in the
cup garage, I'll win and whatever I do. He has
a plan with a little heart and a praying symbol,
so he really does want to do this.

Speaker 7 (28:15):
This was just three days ago.

Speaker 17 (28:17):
That's awesome.

Speaker 3 (28:18):
I forgot that he was. His last team was Spire
and maybe you're onto something. Maybe there's a non compete
clause and if that was the case, though he'd still
be getting paid.

Speaker 4 (28:29):
That was the case, I don't think he would have
put a tweet out like that either though exactly, almost
like he's begging for an opportunity.

Speaker 3 (28:35):
He was the crew chief on the four car Let's
not forget when there was some definite success and a
championship with the Harvick, Right.

Speaker 5 (28:44):
Yeah, he was. I think that was magic between those two.

Speaker 3 (28:49):
It's all about chemistry sometimes. And don't you think that
Rodney Childers and Kyle Busch would make a hell of
a team. It seems like that possible.

Speaker 5 (29:02):
And I think that Kyle has had his wings clipped
enough to where it could actually work. But sometimes Kyle
can be a real little bitch. And I don't know
that Rodney really would want to I don't know stomach that.

Speaker 4 (29:16):
The question is would Richard Childress want to pay someone
like Rodney Childers to come and work any That's actually
the thing you need. The biggest problem over a Childress
is wanting to spend what it takes to be in
the top level.

Speaker 3 (29:28):
Harvick could be a little bitch at times himself, you know.
I mean it's not.

Speaker 5 (29:32):
Like, yes, but they still had there was an even
temperedness and respect for each other. And I don't know again,
if Kyle has had his wings clipped enough that he
has respect for others. I mean again, think I get it.
He's a competitor. But when somebody asked him, you know,
who do you cheer for? Would you congratulate? And he's like,

(29:53):
none of them?

Speaker 17 (29:55):
I get it.

Speaker 5 (29:55):
That's kind of part of his persona. But at the
same time, he carries some of that attitude over to
basically all relationships.

Speaker 3 (30:02):
Ryan might just have headed Neil. Does he really want
to bring a guy like Childers in who might be
smarter than Richard Childress.

Speaker 7 (30:09):
They're not of it.

Speaker 3 (30:09):
They're not related. One is child Wrists and one is
chill Durs. Just keep that in mind. Ed used to
call them Rodney Childress all the time back in the day.
Saw them, Yeah, bring them in, and then hey him,
that's that's something else to think about. We're happier, tuned in,
We'll be right back.

Speaker 16 (30:27):

Speaker 3 (33:11):
I find something very interesting how social media can be
it's it's it's can be very good, it can be
very very bad. And I don't know that there is
a lot of people that were worried about the quality
announcer that Lead Diffy has been. But John, remember John Kernan,

(33:34):
He got on social media and was bitching that Lead
Diffy sounds like a foreigner and we don't need that
in our sport and this and that?

Speaker 7 (33:45):
Is it just me?

Speaker 3 (33:46):
But is that just not really an issue until somebody
starts complaining about it, which apparently gets blown out of
proportion on social media. It's true he does have an
accent that makes it sound a little bit like a
Formula One race rather than a NASCAR race. The only thing,

(34:06):
the only complaint I have about him is that he
can't say the letter R. If you don't know what
I'm talking about, pay attention and you will definitely notice it.

Speaker 5 (34:16):
And yet nobody has an issue with Larry Mcreynolds's accent. Okay,
I mean, come on, that's just ridiculous, Lee Diffy. Actually,
I think brings a lot to the broadcast. I would
much rather listen to him than Jeff Burton.

Speaker 4 (34:30):
Oh my god, yes, I think, you know, I think
the biggest thing is, yes, he has the accent. You know,
he's from Brisbane, Australia. That's where his Queensland area, that's
where he's originally from. And for so many years we
heard him as the voice of Formula One when NBC
had the Formula one coverage. Then he went over to
Indy Carr. He does imps, He did the twenty four
Hours of Daytona. We hear him every year on that,

(34:52):
you know, we hear him do that for so many years.
He's the voice of that series that when he switches
to a different one, it's just so hard to get
used to that. And we're so used to NASCAR having
the southern accent type stuff, you know. And Rick Allen
was good at what he did too. But I think
Rick Allen did a lot of screaming as well. I
didn't know if I necessarily liked him either, but so
I get where people are upset about it. But Lee

(35:13):
Diffy is really good at what he does, so we
just have to get used to it.

Speaker 6 (35:17):
As it did it for me was when he came over.
I thought, oh boy, I see what he does now
on the stock car side. But he was really well
prepared and really knew his stuff, and I thought that
was pretty decent. You know that he actually put some
time into doing a really good broadcast. I thought he
was pretty good. Now I'm kind of just used to
him being in all kinds of motor sports.

Speaker 9 (35:33):
Yeah, I like listen to him.

Speaker 5 (35:35):
I think people need to just grow up and deal
with it. Change is inevitable in life, and if that's
the best thing you can come up with to bitch about,
go hang out at a children's hospital.

Speaker 7 (35:45):
Shut up. And Lee's been here a long time.

Speaker 4 (35:46):
He moved here in two thousand and one to cover
the old Kart series, and in two thousand and three
he started with speed Channel, So he's been doing the
road racing stuff for so many years. The American Monasteries,
the roll Ucks, series SECA trans He's been doing all
that road racing stuff, so I think that's where the
tie comes. But I think if we give him time.
You know, I met him at Road America. Very nice

(36:08):
individual in the media center there. He's talked to everybody
when he walks in and walks out back when he
did Indy Car so super nice.

Speaker 3 (36:13):
Yes, he's an American citizen. Do we know for sure?
It's if he's been here for twenty some years. I'm
going to guess that he is.

Speaker 4 (36:20):
It says it says his citizens citizenship is in the USA,
so yeah, he's he is an Americans in.

Speaker 3 (36:25):
An American city. He just has a an accent we're
not used.

Speaker 9 (36:28):
To, like we said last week.

Speaker 6 (36:30):
I mean, Jackie Stewart was around for a while, David
Hobbes was on the broadcast for a long time, and
nobody who had the problem with that. I know they
weren't the main play they play guy, So I'm not
sure why it's an issue now. I mean, it just
looks like it's something to complain about.

Speaker 17 (36:42):
Just exactly if people just want to bit.

Speaker 4 (36:45):
We had a caller last week that I was complaining
about that. You know, I think it was Greg was
upset that, you know, you heard the you know, the
foreign accent doing NASCAR stuff. So there's people out there
that just it's just so hard to get used to.
But you know, Nascar is the world.

Speaker 7 (36:59):
He really is.

Speaker 3 (37:00):
Like I said, don't that thing that drives me crazy
is a guy that can't say the letter are And
you know, it's nothing against his abilities, it's just that
that drives me nothing. And if you don't know now,
you're gonna you're gonna hear it when you hear him talk.

Speaker 7 (37:13):
And he doesn't just do He doesn't just do sports.

Speaker 4 (37:15):
I mean he does every year every time there's an
Olympic going on that NBC is a part of.

Speaker 7 (37:20):
He's over there doing it. That was part of.

Speaker 4 (37:21):
Why NASCAR how to sit out for you know, the
two weeks last year during the Olympics. He does the
track and field coverage. I think he does during the
UH Winter Olympics. I think he does like the speed
skating and all that type of stuff and the downhill
skiing stuff. So he he he's a jack of all trades.
He does more than just motorsports.

Speaker 7 (37:38):
NBC family used to.

Speaker 6 (37:39):
Have a problem with Ken's square when he said Michigan
all the time too.

Speaker 7 (37:42):
Michigan, Michigan. Oh yeah, yeah.

Speaker 3 (37:45):
There's certain things that just stick in my well.

Speaker 5 (37:48):
And and then there was Darryl Waltrip who pronounced Matt
ken Seth or sith Matt ken sith yeah, Kansas kenseth keneth.

Speaker 7 (37:58):
I'm a US citizen at twenty eleven whatever.

Speaker 5 (38:01):
Man, just get used to it because the guy does
his homework and he does a brilliant job in anything
that he gets a microphone for.

Speaker 3 (38:09):
Speaking of Australia, I don't know the country very well.
I've never been there Adelaide, where the hell is at? Well,
they have a super supercar race. That's the stock Car Series,
the major League stock Car Series of Australia. And do
they race also in New Zealand possibly.

Speaker 4 (38:30):
Well, even think it's the same series that SBG came from.

Speaker 3 (38:32):
Yes, yes, among others. Well, we're sending our representative over
there Austin. Syndric is going to go when the season
is over. He's going over there to race November twenty
seventh through the thirtieth and by the best of my memory,
that's Thanksgiving weekend where PJ and I will be down

(38:53):
at the Freedom Factory. That weekend, but he's going to
race down there. The promoters tried to get Kyle Busch
and Kyle Larson, uh, and they couldn't get either one.
So they got Austin Cindric. Eh, that's good enough. And
so he's going to go attempt to race with the supercars.
I don't know if they're gonna have coverage. They really

(39:13):
don't cover those supercars, do they.

Speaker 6 (39:16):
They they've been on I've seen the events before and
actually kind of fun to watch.

Speaker 9 (39:20):
I can't remember trying to think of the channel was
on now.

Speaker 4 (39:23):
The old mav TV which is now Racer I think
has had him on before. So when that series series
gets going, you have to check that out. Another one
to look at would be that Motor Trend TV.

Speaker 6 (39:32):
Did they say what with the deals that the other
guys is their schedule is not permitted or something?

Speaker 3 (39:36):
Or when I'm ordering it look bad? Are we thanksgiving you?
I wonder why they didn't go.

Speaker 6 (39:43):
I mean their guy came over here and one won
the Chicago race on his first deal. It's pretty It's
a lot to live up to go over there.

Speaker 3 (39:50):
I suppose, But you know, so what so Cindric is
gonna I believe Panske owns a team. I don't know
if he's centric is going to drive for it, but
if I remember right, I thought Penske owned a team
down there, and that's where the guy that used to
drive the nine car Marcos Ambrose Ambrose, I think that's

(40:13):
who we went down to drive for when he went
back to Australia back in the day. I'm just guessing here.

Speaker 4 (40:20):
My memory is someone Sindri Get an accomplished road racer,
so before he got to the Cup Series, he was
really good at road racing.

Speaker 7 (40:26):
From that, we'll be back.

Speaker 12 (40:29):

Eldor Speedway for the fifty fifth World one hundred. They
didn't line them all up again and did another pair
of twin twenty five lap twelve thousand win features in

Speaker 17 (45:08):
Yeah, he's a frickin' wheeler.

Speaker 3 (45:11):
That kid.

Speaker 17 (45:12):
You remember that name. That kid's gonna do things.

Speaker 7 (45:14):
Man, that's gonna be his That's first time I mentioned him.
So that's gonna be his first limited late win on
the dirt.

Speaker 5 (45:19):
So he he won the heat race that last night too.
He's he's got jeans in racing on both sides. So
that's pretty awesome.

Speaker 4 (45:28):

to Boone, Iowa for the IMCA Supernationals. They started racing
last week Saturday night, one thousand and twenty five entries
among the five divisions and the top two classes. For
the IMCA Stock Cars, Jake McBurney was your winner and
the IMSA Modified Tim Ward grabbed the big Supernationals win.
What a challenge that is to get into those features.

(46:09):
I mean some of those days they started racing at
one o'clock in the afternoon and they raced till midnight,
and they had a little bits and pieces of it
on the speed Sport one channel, which I found on
Amazon Prime thanks to a good friend John Boyd told
me that they were showing one hour of it every week,
so I tuned it in a little bit. And that's
crazy the amount of racing they do there. But congratulations
to those two and pick for ninety two Sport Mods. Yeah,

(46:32):
they had one hundred and ninety sports where they had
like three hundred or plus stock cars and modified each night.

Speaker 7 (46:36):
So crazy.

Speaker 4 (46:38):
Wheitland, Missouri last night Lucas Oil Speedway for the Amazo
Oil national Sprint Car Series. Justin Grant was your winner there.
And then the big money races Port Royal, Pennsylvania, the
HIGHLMIT Sprint Car Series Tusco row fifty to fifty eight
thousand dollars to win, and Ryan Tims backed up his
Knoxville Nationals win by going to Port Royal and taking
the big money there. He's only the third guy in
the history of sprint car racing to win that Noxville

(46:58):
Nationals and the tough Arora fifty and the big race
last night at Aldor Speedway, the fifty fifth World one
hundred seventy two thousand dollars to win that unp Late
Model race, and Ricky Thornton Junior passed Jonathan Davenport on
lap forty two. That's right, somebody actually passed Jonathan Davenport
at Aldora and went on to win the race. The
ageless wonder Dale mcdell finished second yet again in that

(47:20):
race at fifty nine years old. So but full house
at El Dora the first time ever. By five o'clock
in the afternoon, they were not letting anybody in. No
general emission tickets, no pit passes, you can't come in.

Speaker 7 (47:32):
It was that full people.

Speaker 4 (47:33):
So they're estimating twenty five to thirty thousand people were there,
and if you've ever been to El Dora, it's a
little two lane road in a little two lane road
out so if they get that many.

Speaker 7 (47:41):
People in that area, it's pretty impressive. Oh my, that
is everything for this week.

Speaker 5 (47:47):
All right, onto the asphalt side of things. Last Sunday,
the Arkhamenard Series ran on the dirt at de Coin Brendan.
Butterbean Queen picked up that win and he'll be making
his Exfinity debut this Friday at Bristol in the Colleague
prepared eleven. Friday night, the Southern Super Series thirteenth Annuel
Georgia Nationals at Cordial Speedway.

Speaker 17 (48:07):
Seventy five laps.

Speaker 5 (48:08):
Super Late Model winner was Bubba Pollard, Jake Garcia was third,
Johnny sowder down There ran twelfth, and Nick Stephen Nassy
was sixteenth. Yesterday and last night, the Jake Sierra All
Stars Tour was at Auto City Speedway in Cleioman, Michigan.

Speaker 17 (48:24):
The Mud Slinger one hundred winner was Billy van Meeder.

Speaker 5 (48:27):
Southern Super Series once again then in action for that
Georgia Nationals at Cordial one hundred and twenty five laps,
this time Jake Garcia was the winner. Sowder, solid run
starting a little deeper in the field, came all the
way up to third, and Stephen Nassy finished ninth. Jefferson
Speedway last night it was their championship night. The Late

(48:47):
Model feature winner was Scott Patrick, a good win for him,
and the champion was Michael Gruenberg. And then we'll pass
it back over to utahd for a recap of Slinger
and last night at the Dells.

Speaker 3 (49:00):
Yeah, last week at the Slinger Speedway, Alex Prunty won
the feature. Grant Greasebach finished a close second. Didn't want
to over extend himself and possibly cause a wreck. Was
happy to finish second and his first ever Slinker Speedway
Track championship. Last week, PG, you're going to have him

(49:21):
on your program, aren't you.

Speaker 5 (49:22):
He was this last Tuesday. You can still catch it
anywhere you download your podcast. Just go to Racing Nuggets
and you can listen to Grant Greasebock chat a little
bit about his season so far, and you can also
watch it on YouTube your choice.

Speaker 3 (49:35):
And last night at Dell's Raceway Park, which I was
fortunate enough to be there for the championship event, Nick
Nolden won the feature and I can imagine what was
going through his head because he was running third late
in the race, watching the beating and banging in front
of him between Mike Litchfield and Weston Marthaller. If you're

(49:57):
gonna beat Litchfield pretty much, are gonna have to muscle
the guy because he's just so dominant at that track,
so smooth, so good, You're gonna have to put a
fender into him. And there was some back and forth
and going on, and Marthaller led until the third and
fourth turns of the last lap. Litchfield got underneath him

(50:19):
and both cars spun and Nick Nolden went on to
win it. Litchfield won the championship, his fourth in a
role and amongst the booze when they interviewed him for
the championship, which is kind of too bad because a
season can't be defined by one race. However, I happen

(50:41):
to know they have this rule. I don't know if
it's the same at every track. You cannot tap out
for something that happened on the last lap, and apparently
Litchfield did try to tap out and was told he
could not and give Marthaller the spot back and therefore

(51:01):
the win. But sometimes, you know, stuff happens. I don't
remember any other results from Dell's last night if you
haven't piging.

Speaker 5 (51:09):
The modified winner was Cory Swanson and the champion was
Matt Pates.

Speaker 7 (51:13):
All right, there you have it, We'll be right back.

Speaker 16 (51:16):

Of the season. Short track racing is pretty much done.
Now we're gonna have some specials. It's a big week
up here at the Dell's. Next week the Big Eights,
and I don't have the schedule in front of me.
I'm I'm relying on my somewhat suspect memory. Big Eight
series is going to have a feature Saturday night, I know,

(54:44):
and the Super Late Models are racing here next Sunday.

Speaker 6 (54:48):
It's the short Track Championships Friday night, Saturday night, and
then Sunday for the Sea.

Speaker 3 (54:52):
Okay, that's the one that came from Rock Rockford. Yeah,
it's the last of the Alive for five series, so
that championship will be determined.

Speaker 9 (55:00):
Also, now there's one more after that. There's one felloween.

Speaker 7 (55:03):
Folloween right following it's a Life for five.

Speaker 3 (55:06):
Yes, yeah, I wish I had the schedule, Like I said, Okay,
I'm glad you streating me out. By the way, I
mentioned a couple of things here. Bristol is coming up
this next week. They're racing Thursday night, Friday night, and
Saturday night. So when we do our picks today, we're
gonna have to do not just today at Saint Louis,

(55:27):
but next week at Bristol. But here's something to keep
in mind. I mentioned today the Cup race is head
to head with the pack but twenty minutes racing before
the Packer game starts. And then this coming Thursday night,
the Packers are playing Thursday night head to head with
the Truck Series. So nobody will be watching the Truck

(55:50):
Series the way I got it figured out. Now, I'll
be watching it, You'll be watching, and Ty's mom will
be watching. I know that I'll be watching.

Speaker 5 (55:58):
Other quick note, if I could add it real quickly,
Ty's racing on Thursday, his sister is getting married on Friday,
and then he's high tailing it to Ohio to run
in the Star.

Speaker 7 (56:11):
Series Glass City two hundred at Toledo. Yeah, it's a
busy little weekend, isn't it? So all right?

Speaker 3 (56:18):
Last week again we didn't have very good results with
our picks. However, today I might as well start, just
because I got the list in front of me. I'm
taking Christopher Bell to win today at Saint Louis. Let's see, Dan,
why don't you go next? Let's see, I took my pick.

Speaker 9 (56:37):
I'm gonna go with. I'll go Ryan Blane this weekends
just to take chief days pick.

Speaker 17 (56:43):
No, I'm taking that same pick.

Speaker 9 (56:45):
You can't.

Speaker 3 (56:47):
Ryan.

Speaker 4 (56:48):
I'm going to try to do the same thing I
did last week to Josh where I did to Josh Barry.
So I'm gonna pick Joey Logano and maybe, just maybe
the same thing will happen.

Speaker 7 (56:58):
He's in trouble. He's only three points above the cut line. No,
he's below the cut line. Joel Gotto three points below
the cut line. SVG is above it.

Speaker 4 (57:05):
So if SGV wants to survive in advance, he's gonna
need those four guys below him to stay by in him.

Speaker 3 (57:11):
For two races and then ain't happened. I told you
all right. Let's see, we're going to Bristol on Saturday night,
which we'll be talking about a week from tonight. I'll
go last this time because I'll probably have the same
pick as as someone else.

Speaker 7 (57:25):
PJ, go ahead, go first.

Speaker 17 (57:27):
You know who I'm going with. Brian Blaney.

Speaker 4 (57:28):
All right, twelve, Brian, I'm gonna go with Chase Briscoe
there Bass Pro Shops. Nice race in the Brass Pro
Shops car wins it.

Speaker 3 (57:37):
Uh huh, Daniel, Kyle Larson okay, and I'm taking Tyler
Reddick at Bristol.

Speaker 7 (57:44):
So there you have it.

Speaker 3 (57:46):
Just keep in mind that the Packer game is at
seven fifteen next week against the Commanders in Green Bay
or Redskins, depending on what school you go to, and
and the truck is at the exact same time on
FS one.

Speaker 9 (58:03):
So so you watch the truck race and listen to
the Packers exactly.

Speaker 7 (58:07):
Yeah, you could see the Packers on the ninety seven
point through the game. There you go. That seems like
the logical thing to do. And you know, darn well
the Packer game will go much longer than the truck race,
so h there we go.

Speaker 3 (58:19):
Stages today are lap forty five and one forty. It's
a two hundred and forty lapper, three hundred miles. It's
pretty neat that Saint Louis within driving distance of our
listening area is in the playoffs this year. So thanks
