The room. You're on board withUltimate Outdoors Radio on a quest to bring
the outdoors to you once again. Our resident guides to the outdoors the Captain
(00:27):
and the Wall Dog. Hey,good Saturday morning. This is Wally the
Wall Dogs Empty along with Captain TerryBrye. Hey Wald Lord, good morning,
Good Saturday morning to everyone. Well, uh, nice to get a
little bit of warm weather here,Wally. Uh, maybe the mushrooms,
(00:47):
we'll realize that spring is fine tohear. And and also the croppies,
because you and I know that thisthese croppies, this is probably one of
the tougher yours there's been as faras them croppies moving shallow. They're all
little bit confused, but yes.Otherwise, on this week's show, we're
gonna talk with Tony Grnado, talka little bit of hockey or no,
we're talking bass fishing. And thenwe're gonna mop up with the Casting for
(01:11):
Kids event which is happening on thetwentieth. And then Brian steatz Er.
Brian's another great sponsor of Ultimate OutdoorsRadio. If you need a little spring
dog training, Brian has Wednesday nighttraining events. We're gonna talk a little
bit about TikTok. The ticks arebad out there, so good time to
(01:34):
get those dogs tuned up. Ithink mine needs a tune up. I
have to, you know, knockhim on the head once in a while
while he's like he needs some exercise. He doesn't need jumper cables? Does
he to get fired up? No, he doesn't need no jumper cables.
By the way, we will probablytalk a bit of hockey with Tony Grenado,
(01:57):
and okay, I should mention diddog training with Brian Stetzer. He's
done it over forty years and heis really good man. You can learn
a lot from that person. AbsolutelyOtherwise, every week we get to talk
about gear. Now it's time forthe Ultimate gear Heads. This week's gearhead
segment is followed by Middleton four Littletonwas done. Hey, before you start
(02:21):
spending all your money on outdoor gear, have the Ultimate gearheads check it out.
They will set you straight. Hey, folks, you don't see that
Middleton Ford sticker? You paid toomuch Wally Capvin. This week's really cool
piece of gear is a high qualityrain jacket, which everybody's gonna need this
year. We're getting lots of rain. It's the Sims brand Challenger jacket.
(02:43):
The jacket has an adjustable storm hoodthat rolls up behind the collar. It
has a zippered chest pocket with aninterior sunglass shammy. The jacket has reflective
logos for increased visibility on the water. The Sims Challenger Jacket as a draw
cord bottom hem with a kill switchd ring to go to your motor and
everybody should be using their kill switcheson their boats. The Challenger jacket is
(03:06):
available in different colors and you canpurchase the matching Challenger bibs and it'll keep
you high and dry. And thisis a great product. It's made by
Sims, the Challenger rain Jacket.Captain Hey, Wally, Otherwise, fishing
does seem to be picking up withthis weather. You just gotta get out
there and just keep grinding away onthem. But I think I think it's
(03:31):
finally over our ice and our snowand spring is on the way. The
turkeys are out and about um.So otherwise, Wally, you know,
last week we talked about the springhearing results, and there's so many of
those that I thought we'd mop upon a few we didn't talk about last
(03:52):
week, and there were there wereseveral of them, and this one pertains
to deer hunting, where there wasa question and if remove the requirement that
you can have no more than fiveparts of a deer removed from the field,
So in other words, you couldbasically cut it up, but you
couldn't have more than five parts,So that that actually passed, you know,
(04:16):
like two to one at least,so you know, if you're in
a bad spot, you're an olderguy, you could basically debone the deer
and just bring the meat out.I think that's a good idea. So
and do you have to call itin before you start working on the deer?
I think you still got till, you know, twenty four hours.
So another one, go ahead. What do they think about going back to
(04:39):
the back tags like the old daysthat you wore on your back. Doesn't
sound like that's going to happen,So okay, you know another one.
Do you favor allowing individuals to shoota bear in the act of attacking your
domestic animal on private lands? Thatpassed easily four to one. The thing
the hoot about this is wally, they didn't include wolves in there, because
(05:00):
obviously a landowner cannot shoot a wolfyou'd have to call a DNR. But
when you see what happens with thewolf situation, there's some musky questions in
here too. Favorite standard season structureA standard season structure statewide including Boundary Waters
(05:20):
and the Great Lakes for muskies Openingday first Saturday in May extending December thirty.
First, while you're a musky guy, do you think it's that's a
good idea, just to have auniform opening. Yes, I think it's
good because you know the season openedlater up in the northern sections. But
(05:41):
muskies are all being caught and released. It's not like people are going to
keep on. Yeah, Hey,stay with us spokes going, stay with
us spokes. Tony Granado is goingto join us talking bass fish and hockey
casting for kids. The cur downto savings design at Clary Building Corps.

From ninety nine degrees above to twentyfive degrees below. A little weather
isn't stopping these guys. This isUltimate Outdoors Radio. Hey, welcome back,
folks, and thanks for listening. This segment is brought to you by
Qualm's Marine and Motorsports in Stoughton,Wisconsin. Joining us next is an incredibly
gifted hockey player. Following high school, he was drafted by the New York
(08:24):
Rangers of the NHL. Tony skatedin college for the University of Wisconsin Badgers,
where he was a two time AllAmerican. Later, as a pro,
he skated for the Rangers and alsothe LA Kings with Wayne Gretzky and
also the San Jose Sharks. Tonyhas coached in the National Hockey League,
played and coached Team USA and theOlympics, and coached the Wisconsin Badgers,
(08:46):
where he is named as the BigTen Coach of the Year in twenty seventeen
and twenty twenty one. Tony Grenado, Welcome to the show. Hey Wally,
thanks for having me. Good morning, Tony. You love to fish.
You're always texting photos of big bassto Wilderness Fishing Game. I got
to ask you, what's your favoritebass beat? Well, there's two of
(09:09):
them right that you know, becauseI'm in your store a lot. The
chatter bait has been the one thatI've been hooked on the most, but
the Lackey Weren't has been a bigfavorite of mine as well. They do
a good job on Mendetta. Soboth those baits on Mendota I've been We've
done a little off for me.So Chuck Pullman, who works at Wilderness,
changed your name to Tony Chatterbeat Granado. We know you love those baits.
(09:33):
And what is it that makes itbait work so good? It's just
easy to It's easy to work. You know, you can use different depths.
If you're in shot while you canalmost use it as just below the
surface bait, if you're in adeeper area over some weeds, you can
you can let us think a littlebit just but the reaction that that bait
(09:54):
has is great. And last yearwhen I started using that baits, I
think the first day I use it, I got two or three wall eye
on it, the large mouth hit, I got a small mouth on it,
northern hit on it. So I'mthinking, man, this baits attracting
lots of attention. So I stayedwith it most of the summer. But
again, I appreciate all your adviceand Check's advice on helping me get the
(10:16):
right baits and right colors for Mendota, and it's gone really well for me.
Tony, You've been a big partof the Mark Woiziki's casting for kids
events which would be held me twentiethon Madison Lakes. Who are you fishing
with this year? I want afish with my dad and my uncle and
my brother Donnie, I think isgoing to come in. But there's a
couple of things on that that Iwant to say, because you said I'm
(10:39):
a big part of it, Igo and I love it and I do
whatever I can for odd But it'samazing when you put together an event like
that, or you watch someone puttogether an event like the os is doing
the help that he gets from peoplelike you and the guides in the community
to get all the items for theauction, to rally around that many people
(11:00):
out on boats to have a greatday says a lot. Ods is commitment
to the Children's hospital and Coble andCenter and the charities and Medison. But
too, it says a lot aboutthe people of Madison that we're willing to
volunteer their time to rally around aspecial event and you know, and you
know make good for his best saycan and trying to help children and cancer
(11:24):
patients and all of that stuff. So it's really that's the part that makes
it so special. The fishing parkthat comes along with it's really cool because
you get on the boat with somebodiesand some friends and you get to talk
fishing all day. But ultimately thebig prize is knowing that our community and
through the ODDS is great leadership andideas on how to put this together.
And I got to say, we'rerobbing too because Robins White puts a wild
(11:46):
time and then jury into it.But all the volunteers and everyone that really
spends endless hours trying to get readyfor this event is it is really that
Madison the community is all about ourguests. Today on Ultimate Outdoors Radio,
it's Tony Grenado, who's obviously afantastic hockey player coach, but loves to
fish, and he'll be joining us. May twentieth. We have a great
(12:09):
event in Madison called Marco Zeki's Castingfor Kids. We have over seventy boats
already and we have raised over fourhundred and fifty thousand so far for the
American Family Children's Hospital in UW.Carbone Cancer Center and Tony there's a dinner
auction available to the public and willthat be at the Line Energy Center also,
(12:31):
Yeah, And it's an event againwhere everybody gets done with fishing and
then people that weren't able to fishbecause they had other activities during the day,
because there's lots of brad parties anddifferent events for child and as far
as soccer and their sports going onto some of the people that can't fish
head over to there and you getto see lots of fun fishermen and some
(12:52):
hockey players and old coaches and whoeverelse that are hanging around odds that day.
But you get some great eye. It's a great dinner. Again,
Ask that's such a great job.I'm putting the event together. So that's
always a nice way to talk thenight off and give opportunities for people that
want able to fish to get overand kind of see what it's all about.
(13:13):
Well, it's really fun to rubelbows with the hockey players and there's
a lot of legends of the iceand great folks and hey, Tony,
I want to also thank you forgoing to the hospital and visiting one of
my employees. Kevin Olsen, wasquite sick and you took time out of
your busy schedule to go see himat University of Wisconsin Hospitals and really cheer
him up. And by the way, he's doing a lot better, So
(13:35):
thank you. Yeah, he's agreat kid. I'm glad you introduced me
to home, and it's always niceto stop by and check see how he's
doing one but to sit there andtalk fishing because he's a fanatic and he's
another one that gives me great tipsa lot of fish, so We're gonna
try to get out here in thenext of a while. I'm gonna try
(13:58):
to get out of chuck asiently fareas well, but get on the water
and up position. And anyone thatcan or has its sign up for a
fishing on the fishing tournament, comeout or let's come up to the boy
and see what it's all about.Fantastic Tony, Thank you very much and
have a great day. You dothe same. Thanks Wallis Books. That
was Tony Grenado, and stay tuned. We will be right back. Hello,

a little weather isn't stopping these guys. This is Ultimate Outdoors Radio. Hey
(15:48):
folks, for all your spring dogtraining needs, contact High Brass Sporting Dogs,
A great sponsor of Ultimate Outdoors RadioJoin me today is Brian Seats are
from High Brass. Tomorrow Brian, good morning. Well Brian, Uh,
we have crazy weather, you know, we have dog tracking snow, and
then we more lawn and YadA,YadA, YadA. But I think things
(16:11):
are straightening out here now finally. So Brian, I want to have you
on board. You've been with usa long time. Also a great dog
trainer. So I'm about tell thefolks what you offer at High Brass as
far as the overall picture of yourdog training and puppy training and so on.
Well, I train h flushing andretrieving breeds, um. And we
(16:37):
start out, you know, witha gun dog program. It's a three
month gun dog program. We offerafter that one month, you know,
after that you go one month ata time. I also got a Wednesday
afternoon evening training class where you cancome, you know, once a week
and do a little work and getsome homework and come back the following week
and hopefully by the end of theseason, we gotta we got a dog
(16:59):
it's ready to role. Yeah.So when you talk about your different things
you offer, so your Wednesday nighttraining, uh events are kind of where
the dog owner can bring his dog. What would you be doing on a
Wednesday night for with the dogs? And then it depends on what you need.
And so, uh, you justcome and we evaluate where your dogs
(17:23):
at. We figure out where youwant to go when we make a plan
to get you there, and sowe start as basic as you need to
start, or as advanced as yourdog is, and we just every week
we take a few steps in theright direction and try to get you to
to a gun dog to suit yourneeds. Yeah. Yeah, well,
(17:45):
and that's good that you're doing that, Brian, because as you well know,
every dog is different. Some ofthem are you know, they're born
and their their field trial dogs. They're a little more hyper, or some
are laid back. So it's it'swhat fits the owner with which is good.
Um so Brian. Uh So,if people you know, grab get
get a puppy, or even havea dog that's a year old, is
(18:10):
it something where they'll leave the dogwith you for a few weeks? Do
you offer that too or what's yourthoughts? Yeah? Yeah, so so,
so I do a three month gundog program and what that entails is,
uh, you bring your dog tome and the dog stays with me
for three months. Hopefully you cancome out and train with your dog once
a week or so generally on Wednesdaysor we will make a day work.
(18:32):
Um. Now, during that threemonth process, there comes a point where
you can maybe take your dog homefor a weekend or something, provided you
don't bring me back a total headcasewhere I got to start all over again.
So if you can maintain the levelof the dog, you know,
and most people don't have a problemwith that, after they've been around and
(18:52):
they've trained a few times and everybody'son the same page. We know what
to do and how to do it, and they can bring me a dog
back, you know, after heyou know, gets a little home time
laying on the couch with mom andplaying ball with the kids. And sometimes
that's a that's a good thing,and sometimes it can be a bad thing,
provided you know, as long asthey maintain where they're at, they
don't they don't backslide. Yeah, well, and that you make a good
(19:15):
point. But also to Brian,I mean, if it's if it's just
the homeowner that uh would just likehis dog disciplined and trained just for being
a home dog, you can offerthat too. It doesn't necessarily just have
to be hunting, right, Imean, we we we we could obe
as train just about any kind ofdog you've got, provided it's a trainable
(19:37):
dog. Um and you know, make them good citizens. I mean,
you don't need to have dogs takingout Grahama on the pizza guy when the
door opens, or running out intothe street, or jumping on somebody's car.
You know you should not expect thatfrom any dog. Take out the
pizza guy. Brian, join me, Dan Ultimate out George Radio. Brian
(19:57):
steets are high brass warning dogs gotabout a minute and a half. Brian,
you and I talked last week aboutticks. They are out. You
want to touch on that in abouta minute and a half. Of all,
we should be checking these arms andalso checking ourselves. Yeah, I
mean so every every time I'm everyday, when I'm finished with dogs,
I put them up on the tailgateand I give them a once over.
(20:18):
I look in their eyes and theirmouth, in their ears. I run
a comb over to knock anything offthem that shouldn't be there. Check their
belly and their armpits. But youneed to be on some kind of preventative
for heartworms and for fleas and ticks. There's so many different things out there
that work, some better than others. I personally like to use sorrestal collars.
(20:41):
Now, those sterrestal collars are kindof pricey, and everybody says,
well they're good for eight months andthey are for fleas, but they're effective
time for ticks is four months. So just remember that, and you want
to make sure that you're in somekind of a program and talk to your
vet about it and make sure thatyou're protected from all of those dog pass
(21:03):
because they can really be a problemif you start getting them on your dog.
Well, as you well know, all the ticks are bad enough for
humans. Humans. After you've talkedto a few people that have had the
tick to sees Brian, where canpeople find you? You can find me
on my website High Breast Boarding Dogs, or I'm on Facebook at the same

We're heading over to Michigan and Ionly have to say two words lead
waits here we go again for people. And I didn't know this that over
in Michigan they what they call aten days sucker Fest event. And these
(24:03):
these suckers come out of Lake herOn and run up the Michigan rivers,
which I had never heard of.But one of these fellows decide he was
gonna win it. He didn't putthe lead weights in the stomach because actually
the way official cut the stomach openwhen he thought this fish way too much.
Well, he stuffed them through thegills into the meat of the head,
(24:26):
and after he cut the belly opened, nothing was there. He decided
he'd dissect the rest of the fish, and the lead sinkers were in the
head of the sucker. That iscrazy, and there has been so many
jokes going on. It a wildernessregarding lead weights. People come up to
me and see, I need somewalley jigs. I got a tournament,
and do you have six ounce weights? You know, I'm like no,
(24:49):
But you know that's world news.Everyone knows about that. Well, the
good thing is Wally by him beingdisqualified a twelve year old girl one the
ten day a tournament, So that'spretty pretty cool. Yeah. Hey,
it's time now for our Dakota SunsetResort. If you guys want a great
(25:11):
travel destination, want to catch alot of beautiful walleyes and big perch,
head over to Devil's Lake, NorthDakota. Get a hold of Seawan and
Linda Timmins and book your trip atthe brand new Dakota Sunset Resort and captain
you fished in North Dakota. Yeah, I would book a cast in blast.
The Waterfall fishing combination is a tripof a lifetime, and I would
(25:32):
book it early because it's fantastic.Well, you know, last week we
were talking about spring hearings and Isuggest people you need to go to the
dn OUR website and read through theresults of the spring hearings. But there's
also an item. It's called thecitizens Resolutions are submitted. And I don't
know how many resolutions each county cansubmit, but these counties submit a resolution
(25:57):
and I'm guessing it's just suggestion,a suggestion vote for possible future law.
But there's a couple of kind ofcrazy ones here, UM like, like
the one uh in Jefferson County citizenresolution was submitted band Live skill and three
(26:18):
hundred and sixty degree image locators inWisconsin waters, so they want all Wisconsin
waters band. So I don't seethat happening. Yeah I don't. I
don't either, But I don't knowthat the gist of all this what it
takes to um basically submit these questions, but um just the time period baiting
(26:45):
is allowed to come out of Walkershaw. Kind of funny. This came out
of Walkershaw County for bear baiting, but that actually passed UM two hundred to
one hundred. Basically, Uh,here's here's another one on bears ban the
use of chocolate and cocold derivatives inbear baiting. That actually passed three to
(27:07):
one. There was a few trappingquestions, a lot of them on the
bear. I don't know what's goingon. Here's one wally you'd be interested
in, you know, create implementplans for a sustainable wild peasant population in
Wisconsin. This was submitted out ofDodge County. It passed, but I
(27:27):
don't see that ever happening, becauseif you don't manage your predators, you're
not going to have any type ofwild peasant population. And no one wants
to measure manage the predators. Sothey should have a bounty on raccoons.
They're kind of out of control inWisconsin. There's so many, and they
are nest robbers, so that wouldhurt the pheasants. But I think it's
(27:49):
great they're putting effort in and peasantsforever certainly has a lot of money to
do habitat and stuff, So that'skind of a good pulse anyway. Yeah,
here's out of Dane County ending extendeddeer seasons that past two hundred and
fifty nine to one hundred and ninetyestablished a fifteen in size limit on Walleye
(28:11):
Sauger on the Winnebago system. Thatpast seventy eight twenty nine give coyote protections.
Oh, give coyote protections protection fromyear around open season. So in
other words, people want a seasonon kyotes. So there once again it's
(28:33):
protection of predators. And we allknow how much stuff kyotes. But the
trouble is this one passed. Theywant a season on kyotes that came out
of Dane County. So it shouldbe year round. Yeah, should be
year round. There's so many ofthem and they can take over, so
absolutely. Hey, thanks for spendinganother Saturday morning with the Ultimate Outdoors Radio
(28:56):
crew Cutch our podcast casts on IHeard Radio. Thanks for listening, folks.
Well that's another show on the stringer. We'll see around the campfire.
