You're on board with Ultimate Outdoors Radioon a quest to bring the outdoors to
you once again, our resident guidesto the Outdoors that Captain banned the wall
Dog. Hey good Saturday Morning. This is Wally the wall Dog Fancy along

(00:33):
with Captain Terry Pray. Morning,Captain, Morning morn everyone in the outdoor
world. I hope you're enjoying thissummer weather. Finally got some rain.
I think everyone was getting a littlenervous, the farmers, the guys that
have stuck thousands of dollars into theirfood plots. Actually, in the future

(00:54):
we'll have John O'Brien con on boardto talk about that, because a lot
of people are bordered losing their foodplots with dry weather. But at least
you're getting a little rain lately,so maybe we are gonna make it through
this. But otherwise, every weekwe get well, we better, we
better tell people who the heck wegot on the show this week. First,
Andrea Joe Joe is gonna join ustalking some northern Wisconsin fishing, some

(01:19):
land projects and puppies. Take thatfor what it's worth. And then Mike
Lewis from Exclusive while I Guide Serviceout of Green Bay gonna check in with
Mike on the bite up there. You know it's that time of year when
these fish are thinking about starting tomove north towards that Door County area.
And if I was you and I'vehad a chance to fish that many times.

(01:42):
If you want a trophy, youwant to consistently catch giant fish.
Book that late summer fall trip withMike runs a twenty four foot triton,
So good ride. Otherwise, everyweek we get to talk about gear No
which time for the Ultimate gear Heads. This week's gearhead segment is followed by
Middleton Ford, Littleton, Wisconsin.Hey, before you start spending all your

(02:05):
money on outdoor gear, have theUltimate gearheads check it out. They will
set you straight. Hey, folks, you don't see that Middleton Ford sick
or you paid too much? Andif you did not hear news from about
a month ago, Middleton Ford isnow a Vortex Optics dealer. Seeing buy
a car and BIA spot and scopeat the same time. Wally, what

(02:27):
you got, well, Captain? This week's really a cool piece of gear
is a pellet rifle. It's theGammo Swarm Fusion ten X Gen three I
ten pellet multi shot break barrel airrifle. It is next level power,
delivering a twenty two caliber pellet atone thousand feet per second. The ten

(02:47):
X Gen three Iye Gammo features asleek and stylish design combined with a horizontal
inertia feed ten round magazine. Thisrifle and twenty two caliber delivers higher energy
downrange, making it ideal for nuisancesmall animals like rabbits, squirrels, raccoons
and crows. Captain, it's avery accurate with the scope, a three

(03:08):
by nine by forty scope pellet rifle. How about that? Yeah? Nice
and quiet too. Otherwise around theworld, Vortex a great sponsor of Ultimate
Outdoors Radio. They have a newYouTube program it's called Cartridge Talk. This

(03:29):
started airing and they're gonna this isgonna be a monthly show. Started in
early June. But basically what theywant to do is inform and help customers
reach their goals and in an entertainingway and talk about cartridges. You know,
all the different cartridges in the world. People heading out buying a new

(03:50):
one or hunting. You're gonna youknow, discuss bulletloads and so on.
So it's gonna be a monthly program. So I would just go to YouTube
or tex and another great offering outof the Vortex crew there, Wally Captain,
speaking of entertainers, did you seethat Toby Keith, who's the country
and Western singer everybody knows, greatguy. He bought a fishing tackle company.

(04:14):
He bought Lucky Strike Tackle Company, which is pretty cool. Yeah.
I heard that, Yeah, LuckyStrike. So there, they've got a
lot of good products there too.So anyway, Wally breezing through the news,
you know, this tribal stuff withthe lock the Flambo is still popping

(04:35):
up, and I think I sawthis comment in Outdoor News, but it
was kind of a loot. Theone guy that rode in said, you
know what if the Locke de Flambowanted to charge us for using their boat
landings on the reservation, which supposedlyis mostly finance supported by the United States
taxpayers, he said, what aboutcharging the tribes for using our roadways?

(05:00):
Yeah? I can see that coming. I guess that's a common sense way
to look at it. Yeah, yeah, yeah, Hopefully they'll get some
of these issues resolved. And youknow, the Speiring governor Walker tried to
buy out the Spearing but they wouldnot have it. They offered seven million
dollars a ways back, but theyjust weren't having it. So spearing will

(05:24):
always be kind of an issue.I think in Wisconsin. I think it's
gonna be I don't think it's evergonna be resolved. Hey, one other
thing where we get out of thesegment. The third Wolf Management Listening Session
coming up July twelfth in Clintonville. And this was pretty cool because the Wisconsin
Wildlife Federation, Association, Sporting Dogsand wolf Efacts are holding public meetings to

(05:46):
make the d and R aware they'renot happy with what's going on with wolf.
So while I got a guest comingup our sure do stay tuned,
folks, Andrea Joel will be withus in just a few minutes. Hi,

As an avid outdoors woman, shehunts, fishes, rides horses,

rice, just to name a fewof her outdoor activities. Andrea Joe,
Welcome to the show. Hey,good morning, Wally. Hey, thanks

(08:46):
for joining us. I know you'rein northern Wisconsin and are you catching any
fish while we're trying to catch fish. It's been pretty busy week up here,
but we've been out fishing every day. Um, We've kind of trying
to hit the mornings and the eveningand just because there's there's a lot of
activity, a lot of jet skiingand skiing and boating going on up here.

(09:09):
But we are finding the fish,so we're not complaining. What type
of fish are you targeting? Well, what we've been catching lately has been
more pan fish and northern fishing.Um, the walleyes, we've kind of
tried to target them a little bit, but it's kind of hard to get
to them right now with all thelake activity. They don't really seem to

(09:30):
be biting. So we actually justgot off the lake here this morning and
uh pulled out quite a few croppies, so that was that was what we
targeted this morning. Awesome. Nowyou and your husband John, they're building
a new home right now. Congratulationsand you took time out to plant forty
acres on your property in a prairieproject. Um, tell us a little

(09:52):
about that. Yeah, So,um, it's a busy year. Um.
But we have this new farm thatwe've been working on for the last
few years and just trying to getnew house going and just getting all the
land laid out right. So oneof the projects we had was this forty
acre kind of prairie field that wewere putting in. So we got that

(10:13):
going in that that's we planted thatlast year. So now it's just a
lot of maintenance, a lot ofmowing, a lot of spots spraying,
that kind of stuff. But it'scoming up nice, even with the lack
of rain we've had this year, but lots of flowers, so that's kind
of exciting, especially with having allthe bees this year. I have six

(10:35):
hives that are rocking pretty hard,so they kind of go hand in hand.
The bees do good with all theflowers, and then the flowers and
the grasses do even butter with allthe bees. So it's just kind of
a nice esthetic going on on ourfarm. And you sell the honey you've
got. The Arena Bee Company inArena, Wisconsin and it's ungraded well flower
honey. And you've gave us terryand ice some of that stuff. Fantastic,

(11:00):
isn't that good? Honey? Yeah? We um We pull about I
would say, anywhere from sixty toone hundred pounds of honeyoff a year.
So our main goal is just tohave the bees for pollinator, but the
honey is just kind of the bonus. And okay. Also, you've got
a new puppy recently. What's thedog's name and what kind of dog?

(11:20):
Ah? Yeah, so I wegot another yellow male labrador and his name
is Timber. We are excited weare getting him up in Rock and getting
him ready for the hunting season andfor guiding. We got him back in
October at ten weeks old, andwe got him on birds right away.

(11:41):
We actually got him right before wecame up north to go grouse and woodcock
hunting, so when he was justthree four months old, he was out
in the woods up in northern Wisconsinout hunting with us. So we got
him started at an early age.And here recently he's with our trainer and

(12:01):
he actually just got his started passwith the hrc UM, so he got
titled so he's got a shr titlenow. He did that here this last
weekend, so we're excited. He'sdoing really good. He's a fun dog
to be around, and we lookforward to this upcoming coming hunting season.

(12:22):
We want to get him out onducks and woodcock and grouse and and supisans.
You guys have always owned some awesomedog, so I'll look forward to
meeting Timber out at Cedar Valley HuntPreserve. And also we should say congratulations.
Andrea. I know you're a brokerfor Century twenty one affiliated and you
recently purchased the Brokeridge and spring Green. How's that going? Yeah? Yeah,

(12:43):
thanks, I did back here inApril, um I got an opportunity
to purchase at the spring Green office, so now I'm broker owner and I'm
happy for the opportunity and I loveour Center twenty one team and officers is
great. So everybody was happy forme. And we're doing good. So

(13:05):
our sales are still going good. We're actually have been adding on new agents
as well. So yeah, sothings are going great and I think we've
got a lot of good upcoming. Thanks coming too, So if somebody would

(15:22):
fishermen and women, we got someexciting news coming out of the Mackxler Company
on some a couple of new Walleyeproducts that we're gonna debut here in a
couple of weeks, and they aregoing to add some real flash and some
excitement to some of your baits. But speaking of Walleyes. We're gonna travel
up to Green Bay. We're gonnatalk with a sponsor of ours, Mike

(15:45):
Lewis from Exclusive Walleye Guide service Kamar. Mike, good morning. How you
doing. We're doing great, Mike. So we wanted to get John board
here kind of update us on what'shappening on the bay after the hot weather.
So let's just start with the SouthernBay. Mike, Um, how's
things going on the Southern Bay asfar as fish movement and bit and so

(16:08):
on. Boy, it's been reallyslow the last year month or so with
all the ailwives, the bug hatches, and I mean I'm going out get
five six fish a trip, andit it working really hard to get them.
But with that heat that came, that comes good things that drive some

(16:30):
ailwives out of there, and it'sit's starting to turn on. Now we're
happy about well. You know,Mike, I've been watching some of the
tournaments and I had a sneaking suspicionthat that was the case, that these
fish are so full of bait thatyou can look at him in eight feet
of water, throw a bait andhit him in the head and they won't.

(16:51):
I mean, the eight and ninepound walleyes won't hit it, and
explain how that bait population affects thebite on anybody of water. Oh,
you get so much day, you'regonna catch When you do catch fish,
these fish are gonna bite. There'syou're just gonna have to find that time
when they say, okay, we'reopening up to our mouths and biting right

(17:14):
now. But it's usually just alittle bite window when it's this, when
they're this full. It's not ohyeah, you go out there any time
of the day and smack them. It's you gotta find that bite window.
And it's been tough for a lotof guys, but it's out there.
But now it's turning. So yeah. Well, we noticed that Merton National's

(17:34):
on Winnebago. Some days all theywould do was hold on to the bait
they and they every fish fell offin the net. So you better hope
that you got them scooped. Butum, Mike, so, is there
any you see any movement on thesefish going north yet with water temps or
is it a little bit early?Oh? No, I mean they're moving

(17:56):
out now. I mean I hadwater temps in on Sunday, surface temp
at eighty degrees. Well, Iwas really digging that. We were out
in some deeper water and caught somefish and we were just out of boat
ride and I said, can Ifished for a little bit. I was
with my daughter and wife Boom.We fished for about forty five minutes and

(18:17):
caught two nice fish. It's likeokay, so and we were in twenty
eight point of water at the time. So they're everywhere right now. But
they're turning their feedback on because they'relosing all their baits, so they're not
all over maybe with a lot ofthe bait. Well, maybe explain to
the folks why these fish go northas it water temps is at bait because

(18:38):
every fall they make that cruise somenot every one of them, but to
the door County Sturgeon Bay area. And we're going to talk about that.
But why why do they do that, Mike that they're just following the bait.
You know, they're hungry, theywant to keep keep filling their body
full of food. And uh asthe bait moves north find cooler water,

(19:00):
they just keep following them. Andit you know, so one day I'm
in the Southern Bay and next thing, you know, I'm a quarter of
the way up and then a halfwith you know, you'll find them everywhere,
but typically they're waking a trench upnorth, fowl on the cooler water
fowl on the bay. So yeah, okay, Mike, a couple of

(19:22):
minutes left. So I wanted toreason. I wanted to have you on.
It's a time where people, youknow, need to book a trip
to catch that fish of a lifetimeout of that door County Sturgeon Bay area.
So just tell the folks what theycan expect because I've been up there.
The quality of the fish is unbelievablein the fall, so late time,
oh, it's it's yeah, it'scrazy. I mean, you're you're

(19:48):
gonna catch some twenty eight twenty nineinch fish pretty regularly out there. And
as you know, if you getup by you know, Han Island,
Chambers Island, that's type of stuff, you know, Layton, you know,
actually July August, you're you're catchingall you fish are gonna be twenty
eight twenty nine inch. I mean, yeah, you might catch the twenty

(20:11):
six is but I rarely catch smallfish. I mean, obviously they're up
there, but the ones that aren'tbiting they're the big ones, are the
ones that are more aggressive. Soyeah, that's the one thing noticed.
You don't you don't catch a twentyincher, Mike, I wanted to ask,
is anybody heading up past Washington Islandthe other they that pretty much the

(20:33):
top of the the limit for mostof the world. I personally haven't been,
but I know that, you know, some of these tournaments where they're
killing these huge weights, they're youknow, going up Washington Island fishing,
followay around. They got pots fishthat they're following, and it's yeah,

(20:53):
so I know there's guys that aredoing it for tournaments, guiding for it.
I'm not positive on that. Okay, Hey, Mike, how about
your website because I encourage people it'sthe time to book that fall trophy because
you know you might have the chanceto reel end six eight of those giant
eyes. How about your website,Mike, Yeah, exclusively Walleye. Excusefully

folks, and thanks for listening. You know, people do some incredibly stupid
things outdoors, and now it's time. Now it's time for the Ultimate Dumas

Captain well Wally the you know it'sallays easy to find a uda because there's
so many pultures out there. Andactually there's another follow up store to that

(24:00):
sturgeon spearing. I believe it wasnot Sturgeon. I'd have to have to
look that back up. But therewas a follow up story on Pool nine
of the Mississippi. I'll get thatfor next week. Otherwise, this week's
UDA in Wisconsin h wallpacka County poachingsuspect, pleads guilty to fifty one chargers.

(24:22):
So he was pretty busy. Uhwell, he he pleaded not guilty.
I misread that he played not guiltyto fifty one chargers. But um
man, he must be guilty ofsomething of half fifty one charges on him.
So probably just baing and shooting deeror something like that illegally. Yeah,

(24:45):
yeah, shining of deer, elkbear, failure to attain license and
all the whole the usual scoop forthe poachers. But you know, thank
God that you know our wardens areout there. But the sa thing about
that is, Wally, these wardensare still having to work in our state
parks. I happen to talk toone warden a couple of weeks ago.

(25:07):
He spends a majority of his timein state parks, so he's not out
there looking for our poachers and stuff. And you know when when all the
state the park employees got cut, they stick to wardens over there. So
our warden forces is pretty spread, pretty thin, as they say. It's

(25:27):
kind of sad, really it is. Well, well, Captain, it's
time now for a Dakota Sunset Resortfishing report. Just talked to Sean Timmins
the past few days here. Agroup of anglers from Suck City area,
including Paul Gibbs, traveled to Devil'sLake, North Dakota last week and stayed

(25:48):
at Chun and Lynda Timmins Resort, the Dakota Sunset Resort, and had incredible
walleye fishing. Their group caught overtwo hundred and sixty walleyes. Captain,
just amazing catch him casting with plasticsor using bottom bouncers in the old river
channels, and that fishery is justamazing. Right now. That's Devil's Lake,
North Dakota. Yeah, fishing isgood everywhere. A little hatch fly

(26:11):
by hatch on the Mississippi River, but otherwise things are good. Well,
a lot of things happening in theWestern world out there, and I came
across a pretty interesting program and thisis in the state of Wyoming, and
the new program is called let aDeer Walk Program. So because of the

(26:33):
amount of winter kill on animals outthere, hunters have gotten together to create
this a Deer walk program. Kindof interesting. The principle is simple.
Hunters who buy or draw a deertag for the twenty three twenty four season
can mail there can mail in theirtags by August first for a prize drawing.

(26:56):
And this is instead of going hunting, they secure their big game tag
and then they send it in fora prize drawing to be held on August
fifteenth. This way, the WyomingGame and Fish Department receives its funding,
hunters receive a chance to win agreat prize, and they're basically trying to

(27:19):
help these deer come back from winterkill so be a lot less harvested deer.
More than one hundred thousand prizes havebeen donated, including truck bill from
truck king ATVs, guided hunts, and so on. Kind of an interesting
concept, but once again hunter steppedup to the plate because of winter kill

(27:40):
and trying to reduce the harvest anda little more reproduction. Pretty neat program,
I think that's a great idea,Captain. And you know, as
it turns out, hunters really careabout wildlife and habitat, and to give
back like that is really great. Not being selfish, but turning your tag
in just to help for the greatyour costs. So it's pretty great.

(28:03):
Long as we're on the hunting issue, here's a here's a common sense paragraph
that I think is pretty interesting andit's basically countering the argument to anti hunters
is as they say, humans donot need to hunt. Well, here's
a paragraph it's kind of that's that'sgoing to explain why why it's important a

(28:27):
hunters hunt. If hunting is outlawed, millions of hunters would suddenly have to
go to the supermarket to purchase meatto replace their protein in feeding their families.
In two eighteen alone, Wyoming residentsharvested twenty six thousand elk, yielding
four point six million pounds of proteinat six ounces of meal. That's twelve

(28:51):
point two million meals. Multiply thatby the hunters who take home a big
game nationwide. Basically what they're sayingasali, the store shelves would be empty
of meat if hunters quit hunting,So people you better appreciate a hunter,
because if we quit hunting, we'rejust going to clean out the store shelves

(29:11):
on steaks. Well that's it's agood way to look at things. So
yeah, you don't you don't reallythink about stuff like that, but you
know, I'll just think of thehamburger and the steaks that you know.
So yeah, well, folks, thanks for listening. Make sure you're getting
some kids off the couch and enjoyyour time in the great outdoors. Well

(29:37):
that's another show on this stringing aroundthe campfire. Don't forget to catch your
show on the neck at Ultimate outdoorsRadio dot com.
