(00:12):
You're on board with Ultimate Outdoors Radioon a quest to bring the outdoors to
you once again. Our resident guidesto the Outdoors. The Captain Banned the
Wall Dog. Day Good Saturday morning. This is Wally the wall Dog Vampy
(00:33):
along with Captain Terry Fry. Goodmorning, Captain, Good morn, wall
Dog. Good morning everyone in theoutdoor world. Wow, I guess this
heat is like, what are wegonna do? It's too hot to fish,
that's my I just refused to fishunless I guess you only fish three
hours in the morning and you're onthe water at daybreak. But yeah,
(00:58):
it's gonna be tough on plots andlawns and other stuff. But I guess
we tough through it. At leastit's not one seventeen. So actually,
you know, we're going to talka little bit about archery because you know,
when you think about it, we'reat the end of July, we
got August, and we're into Septemberarchery season, early goose, early duck.
(01:19):
It's amazing that really is six sevenweeks away and people are climbing tree
stands. That seems kind of crazy. So Don Ward is going to join
us down as a pro archery rep. And he is a ton of knowledge
on bows, arrows and so on. And that's one thing you might want
to do is take your bowl andmake sure you don't need a new string
(01:42):
so it doesn't blow up on you, and grease everything up. That'd be
a good idea. And then it'sour annual Cleary Building Corp. Kids Fishing
event and open house in Verona,Wisconsin. The open house is nationwide for
Cleary Building Corp. But I believeit's our thirteenth or fourteenth year for the
kids fishing, so it's open toanyone. Just come over to Verona.
(02:04):
Drive on in the main entrance. We'll have some bet available. Wally and
I will be there. That's Augustfifth. We'll talk about that with Mike
from Clary. You can design yourown cool looking little building, so that'll
be a fun day. But otherwiseevery week we get to talk about gear.
Now it's time for the Ultimate gearHeads. This week's gearhead segment is
(02:28):
followed by Middleton Pool, Middleton,Wisconsin. Hey, before you start spending
all your money on outdoor gear, have the Ultimate Gearheads check it out.
They will set you straight. Hey, folks, you don't see that Middleton
forward sticker get paid too much,Wally A Captain. It's interesting that you
talked about tree stands earlier, becausethis week's really cool piece of gear is
(02:50):
the tree stand. It's the Doubledrop Time ladder stand made by Muddy.
This eighteen foot ladder stand is idealfor bow hunting or rifle hunting for whitetail,
deer, bear another big game. The double seat is extremely comfortable.
It is extra large, waterproof, and it contours to your legs in back.
The Double drop Time is an extremelystable design. It's constructed with strong
(03:10):
square tubing. Every stand is overbuiltwith security, safety and comfort in mind.
The Double drop Time Muddy stand retailsfor about three nineteen ninety nine,
Captain, but I did see himat Wilderness on sale for one ninety nine.
Yeah, it's crazy. We're alreadytalking about tree stands, but you
don't realize that we're we're not faraway from the opening of archery season.
(03:34):
And I guess on that note, here's something else that pertains to hunting,
and that is the Vortex Optics VortexEdge Group, and they are actually having
they're going to teach you how todo. You can sign up for these
courses there. I think they're aone hour course August fifteenth and sixteenth,
and also November November eighth and ninth, I was on that. You can
(04:00):
just sign up and tells you Ithink they're only taking like ten people per
per hour, but you know, you get to go in and experience their
range and it might help you savingammunition. So just I would just go
over to their Facebook, their websiteand search for that and we will probably
be talking about that in the future. Wally. Yeah, it's a good
(04:24):
idea to sit in your rifle everyyear to get confident and comfortable with it.
And the folks over at Vortex reallyknow their ballistics and different types of
ammo and there's just a ton tobe learned, so that Captain, they'd
be a really good idea to gothere and shoot at their range. Yeah.
Hey, heading west, if you'restill looking for licenses, Montana surplus
(04:45):
licenses went on sale or going onwell, they're on sale until August fourth,
so you might be able to pickup a Elker deer. Hey,
Wally. For people who have notheard, non resident fees are really are
taking a jump. And I thinkthis was on the Spring hearing questions.
I'll run through a few of thesequick. But the new non resident hunting
(05:06):
fee small games ninety bucks. Theyhave a five day deer is actually two
hundred for non resident license archery andcrossbow one sixty five, turkey sixty five.
New non resident fishing fees family annualseven seventy dollars. They have an
individual four day individual annual which isfifty five day fifty five dollars. They
(05:30):
even have a one day which isnice if you're just visiting. That's only
fifteen bucks. So in the combinationconservation patron's license, whalley up to six
hundred and twenty dollars for non residents. The sports licensed is two ninety five
and that was voted on very ina very positive way. On the spring
hearing. Not so bad. Otherstates are much higher than Wisconsin. Kevin,
(05:59):
stay with and talk with Don Warden. We're talking archery. Do you
ever think about how many ways weuse the word house in sports? Protect
this house in music, burning down, the house at a restaurant, it's
on the house at Clary. Weuse it a little differently. A shouse
is a house with a storage shedconnected. It's the best combo of living
(06:20):
space and storage, and we buildthem every day at Clary. Speaking of
House, get the best prices ofthe season during the Clary Open House Sale
August third through the fifth. VisitClary Building dot com today. Hi,

is brought to you by Qualms Marineand Motorsports and Stowton, Wisconsin. Qualms

lifts, boats, ATVs and UTVsgive qualms a call. They have
(08:28):
parts service and financing. Joining usnext. As an excellent archer and bow
hunter, Don has worked in manyarchery pro shops in his career. He
shot competitively from twenty ten to twentyseventeen and was a Hot Factory Pro staff
member. He has won several titlesin the Senior Pro class. Don Ward,
(08:48):
Welcome to the show. Hi,how you doing, Wally great?
Don, thanks for joining us,And first question for you, how many
years have you shot a bow andarrow? Well? I went with my
dad in nineteen eighty three. Wewent on on a Antal open mule deer
hunt. It was a gun huntand in the camp one of the guys
(09:11):
asked me if I ever bow hunted, and I said no, I never
even thought about it. And thenthe following fall eighty four, I was
going through shop call tour and Ihappened to see a bull set there,
so I bought a set and Iwent out and built some wooden tree stands,
and that's when I started. Itwas eighty four going out bow hunts.
(09:37):
Well, long time, and you'veworked in a lot of archery pro
shops and I met you over theyears at Bentley's. And how many archery
shops have you worked at in yourcareer? Probably two or three, including
my own basement shop I had fora while. I started at a capital
(09:58):
archery on the UH in the ShermanPlaza back in eighties six. I believe
it was working for Tom Lang.He taught me a lot as far as
a fixing equipment and fletching arrows andso on and saw on. Back then,
the equipment was pretty crude compared towhat it is now. It was
(10:24):
all steel cables and big fatwood risers, and it's nowheres near like it is
now nowadays. But he taught mea lot there and then Uh and then
then he went out of business, and then I went to work for that
Ley's Rust Bentley, Gordon Ey,Gordy and Mimi's son who used to have
(10:46):
a shop there by the Pitcher's Pub, and then he moved it to flam
Road, and then he moved overto Milwaukee Street. And then when he
got out of it, I justwent and did stuff in my basement.
Well, I should let folks knowthat Don Ward works at Wilderness Fishing Game
and he's a pro and he canreally help you with your shooting form and
(11:09):
stuff. When did you decide tostart competitively shooting as a factory sponsored pro
shooter? Don Well, I wasa competitive for probably fifteen to twenty years
before, but I became a prole. I won a lot of state titles
as an amateur, and then twothousand and nine I turned prole senior pro
(11:31):
and two thousand and ten as whenI got full time into it. And
you won three out of four themajor major events in the country. Which
ones were those in twenty ten?Well, there was the Vegas which is
the big one, that's the largest, that's the largest archery tournament in the
(11:54):
country. As Vegas. You getfour to five thousand shooters there every year.
All over all over the world theycome to shoot Vegas. So I
wanted the senior pro in Vegas.Twenty ten, I won the IOWA Pro
Am, the Midwest Open, andtook third at NFAA Nationals in Louisville,
(12:20):
Kentucky. Congratulation, that's fantastic.I know you had a target up on
the hoit booth. You had shota three hundred score, which is perfect
right at twenty yards, and youhad twenty seven x is explain what that
is? Well, there is aVegas is a three day shoot. You
(12:43):
shoot thirty yearls each day. Allthe perfect scores go up on what they
call the Hoite Wall. They putit up during their trade show every year.
So when you shoot, if youshoot a perfect score, do you
bring it over to the booth andthey put their Hoite certified stamp on it
and then they stick it up onthe white wall just for all the all
(13:07):
the people to see. Well, the wall of fame. That's awesome.
Congratulations on that. Now, ifpeople want to learn more about our treaty
and get better with their farm andstuff, you're very good at educating people.
Can they come to wilderness fishing gameand shoot indoors there and will you
help them with their shooting? Done? Oh yeah, absolutely, we have
(13:28):
an indoor range about an eight personrange. There were the three of us,
Sean, Chris or any of uscan help with with as far as
the form goes. Any any bullhunter, any bull hunter that's serious about
(13:50):
bull hunting should shoot some paper andget their form to treat critique just so
it helps them helps them out inthe field. It doesn't take us a
little bit of a water job.Well, don thank you, very much
for taking time out and enjoy therest of your day. All right,
(14:11):

We're gonna talk with Mike Winiman. We're gonna chat with him about the
(16:04):
open house and our annual kids fishingevent which guaranteed to catch fish. Uh.
You know, Mike, there's amany people that can guarantee that you're
going to catch fish, right, true, Terry know, I mean,
it's it's pretty amazing that, youknow, time in and time out,
we had the kids come out, they throw those lines in and the kids
just you know, they pull outfive, ten, fifteen, twenty fish
(16:27):
if they're you know, from nineto new they're catching a lot of fish
in three hours. Mike, Ithink we did have one child that did
not catch him. I could not. He was standing next to his brother
last year and he was mad hecouldn't catch a fish. I think he
might have been the first one that'snever caught a fish. And I did
(16:47):
everything I could. His brother justkept reel at him in it. He
was pee old. He just said, just so I you know, I
mean, you definitely see a lotmore smiles and frowns when we're out there,
that's for sure. I mean, many of people catching their first fish
and even the parents having memories, you know, before we own this and
the I mean because Claries and Iresince the early eighties, so before that
(17:10):
time used to just be an openhole for swimming and yeah, some people
even fished it. So it's niceto open it up once a year just
to allow people to come back inreminisce and catch a few fish. Give
your location for people I want tocome over and kids fish, bring the
kids over fishing, and for youropen house that's going on. Sure you
can go to Cleariebuilding dot com.But we'll right off Highbee sixty nine and
(17:32):
Verona, Wisconsin. That's where thekids fishing is from nine to noon on
Saturday the fourth, and we'll besupplying August Sith August August, yes,
and we'll be supplying some bait, have a few extra fishing rods to take
a bunch of pictures, and we'llfeature your kids on our Facebook and website.
And it's it's just fun. Threehours are good fun. So Mike,
(17:55):
let's jump into the open house.Mike, I'll test your knowledge.
How many years have we been doingthe kids fishing and Clary opening the thirteenth
year? You can't hold me tothat, but I think it's the thirteenth
year. I think we've been rollingfor some time here and it's been nice
partnering with you guys. And whenwe came up with this concept and this
idea to keep expanding fishing for kidsand younger adults, it's it's great,
(18:19):
it's really fantastic. Well, Miketalking about your open house, and we'll
let you expand on people how theycan design the building. But for people
that you know, I really wantto see what's happening in the and I'll
call it the metal building world.Maybe that's not the appropriate language, but
your Facebook page, Mike, someof those buildings, it's like I don't
(18:42):
need one, but I just wantto build one and move in. It's
so cool. That's just great tosay. I mean, and people have
some I mean, that's not that'sus designing them and working for them and
them dreaming and seeing what they wantto do. Because you can, I
mean from a post frame standpoint, you can add port, you can add
leans, you can add secondary buildings. You know, we have people coming
(19:03):
back adding on a shop, orthey'll do a you know, a shouse
from the Star where it's a shophouse, you know, or they'll just
build their workshops. So there's avariety of colors. We have over thirty
eight colors you can choose from andand intermix on the roof, sides and
trims. So there's there's a varietyof things you can look at. And
then we use dreammaker um to allowyou to design it in a three D
version so you can see visually whatyou're looking to hopefully purchase, and then
(19:29):
hopefully you can that in your landwell, and the neat thing for you
guys, Mike is it's not youjust having to come up ideas. You
have customers. You have customers.Customers come in with some pretty cool ideas
which you can then incorporate. Likemy son said, you know, if
I build a house, it's goingto be a barn a minium where you
can you know, you live onone side and you look through the window
(19:49):
and your horses are standing on theother side, so you know, the
sky's the limit there, no verymuch. So and the beauty of what
we do clearly is that we afull engineering department, so we have you
know, engineers to reference, evengeersto talk to from a design standpoint,
whether it be trusses or headers orjust different design aspects. UM. You
(20:11):
know, there's there's a lot ofdifferent things that we do. We were
able to do a round roof buildingmany years ago where somebody we took a
wood trust and and and etched itaround where eventually it turned out to be
bending metal around a round roof.So there's a lot of different things that
were able to accomplish UM. Andwe're always looking for unique structures. Yeah,
and I would say if you ifpeople page through your Facebook page,
(20:33):
they can see about every variety ofbuilding, or if you need a little
shop, or if your wife kicksyou out of the house and you need
a man cave, or vice versusthe man kicks the wife out of the
house, you need a wife cave. You know, the sky is really
really the limit and you're the neatthing about your dreammaker, Mike, you
can you can put that thing togetherwith all the color combinations and there you
(20:59):
have it. You know exactly whatit looks like for it hits your property
correct, correct, And it's goodbecause we want to provide that personal service.
I mean, we want you togo to our website and do virtual
planning and do our floor planner andour visualizer. But at the end of
the day, you know, personalservices what we provide. You know,
in this day and age where peoplejust want to go to the internet,
we want to be there every stepof the way because this building process is
(21:21):
unique and it's not it's not somethingeverybody can do, and we want to
be the experts and provide the bestsolution to our clients along the length.
For sure, Well, Mike,we want to mention your open houses nationwide.
Go to clearing building cart. Buthow about your location for kids fishing
and open house again and Verona andthen open house. Yeah, go to
Clearing Building dot com. Open houseis August third, fourth, and fifth.
(21:45):
Check us out and kids fishing isonly in the Verna location on August
fifth from nine am to twelve pm. And we look forward to seeing everybody
out there all right. Thankful toremember ketch us live world wide on iHeartRadio.
Do you ever think about how manyways we use the word house in
sports? Protect this house in music, burning down the house at a restaurant,
(22:07):
it's on the house. At Clary, we use it a little differently.
A shouse is a house with astorage shed connected. It's the best
combo of living space and storage andwe build them every day at Clary.
Speaking of house, get the bestprices of the season during the Clary Open

(23:36):
short of a dozen. Hey,welcome back, folks, and thanks for
listening. You know, people dosome incredibly stupid things Outdoors and now it's
time. Now it's time for theUltimate Damas segments. This segment is brought
to you by Gramparray Outdoors. Ifyou're considering putting food plots on your property,
(23:57):
give John O'Brien a call at ApareyOutdoors or go to his website and
you can learn a ton about goodplots. Captain Wally, we just want
everyone out there to know that there'sultimate dumbasses running all over the world.
So it isn't there every time yougo to there is Oh so okay,
(24:25):
I'll get into my uda year.Montana man sentenced to prison for illegally selling
eagle feathers and eagle parts in SouthDakota. Um, yeah, this judge,
you don't want to fool with him. They stuck this guy in prison
for three years and he basically, wow, what's that? Wow? Well,
(24:52):
yeah, we see all these fishviolations and hunting violations. They get
off with no jail time. It'skind of to the point where they do
everything's full where they're going to putthem. But but he violated the Bald
and Golden Eagle Protection Act, iswhat happened. And I guess they take
that stuff pretty darn serious. Soanyway, time for our Spring Valley Kennel
(25:17):
Field Report, Wally. Folks,if you are traveling or have your summer
vacation and need a great place toboard your dog or dogs, contact Sean
or Linda Timmins at the Spring ValleyKennel and Blue Mounds, Wisconsin. They've
got a beautiful kennel there. Theycan have over sixty dogs on hand,
and they have folks there that exerciseyour dogs and feed them well and actually
(25:37):
captain they play them some country music. Yeah. Hey, I want to
throw on a just a follow upfrom last week's show where we were talking
about why outdoors folks, hunters, fisherman's, whatever you may do in the
outdoors need to join sun type ofgroup for political your political view and your
(25:57):
support. You know, Hunters andthe Sportsman Alliance of file petitions with US
Force Service to push wolf delisting andyou know, as to the point where
if if we do not win oneof these cases, there will be no
more predator management in this country ofthe United States. And that's just you
(26:18):
know, that's a couple of groupsthat are doing that, you know.
And on the other hand, hereyou have another news other News. Illinois
and Washington state of enacted unconstitutional bandson semi automatic firearms this year, and
the NRA actually file legal challenges inboth. Similar lawsuits challenging semiotic bands.
(26:41):
Semi automatic bands in California and Delawareare also working their way through the judicial
process. The thing that bothers mehere walies. They're talking basically about these
the rifles. But what happens whenthey banned all the rifles and then some
guy takes a duck our semi automaticshotgun kill somebody because it's semi automatic.
(27:04):
They're going after those next, andit's the old story. Man. Everybody
needs to kind of get involved, even if you're just buying a membership from
a group that's out there fighting foreveryone politically. You know, well,
Captain, you know, a lotof us use over and under shotguns for
pheasant hunting, but we also havesemi automatic shotguns. And for instance,
(27:29):
I have two Browning Maxis, whichis a beautiful twelve gage gas operated,
nice gun, and the gun istotally safe. It's about the handler and
guns don't kill people, so youknow, it's people that kill people,
and it's not fair that people thatdon't hunt make all the rules and take
away our freedoms. And what's funabout living in the US is our ability
(27:52):
to go hunt, go on publiclands or game farms and go hunting with
our buddies. So it's important tous we do need to join a group
or make a stand, otherwise they'regoing to get away with us. In
Captain, yeah, hey, wewere talking about tree stand safety, which
we normally talk about in the fall. But here's a story. You know,
I see on social media how manypeople are looking for so called safety
(28:17):
devices, search and rescue devices whenthey go afield, just for safety reasons.
Here's another story, and we've talkedabout this inReach device, which I
actually own. The initial cost isI think like three fifty and then i'd
pay a twelve dollars monthly fee.And I actually do it year around because
I do stuff alone so much, whether it's cutting wood, fishing, hunting
(28:40):
out west hunting. Here, youfall out of a tree stand, you
just have to push a button. And here's a story about a father and
son who are actually hiking the Glaciertrail and the father fell in a crevice.
It took three different helicopters to rescuethem. But if he would not
have the inReach device initiated the US. And the thing about those is you
(29:00):
can actually talk to search and rescueby text messages on those, And so
really twelve bucks a month, thatmakes a great gift one hundred and twenty
dollars a year for that peace ofmind whatever you're doing. So it's something
to think about. What the fallseason coming. Wally Good idea captain people
who can never be too safe,So plan ahead, right, Yeah,
(29:23):
hey, folks, make sure youhead over. You want to catch our
podcasts. iHeartRadio. All our showsare podcasts, and remember our kids fishing
August fifth, have a great Saturday. We'll ask another show on this treaming
she around the campfire. Don't forgetto catch your show on the neck at
Ultimate outdoors Radio dot com
