Rod. You're on board with UltimateOutdoors Radio on a quest to bring the
outdoors to you once again. Ourresident guides to the Outdoors, the Captain
(00:27):
Banned the Wall Dog. Hey,good Saturday morning. This Wally the wall
Dog Bambi, along with Captain CherryFry. Good morning, Captain, Hey,
Good morning everyone out there in theoutdoor world. Wally and I are
recovering from a funny event at ClearyBuilding Corporate a whole bunch of kids,
and in a week or so wewill be posting up a bunch of pictures
(00:51):
on our rotating website Banner Good time. Everyone caught fish and they were fish
were pretty active. So and Wallynow will talk a little bit about what's
happening in the area bite here. But our guests this week, a fellow
name Rich Reinhardt, is going totalk about a new product to the market,
and that is a braid line calledFinn's Braid Line. And the braid
(01:15):
line has really taken taken the marketby storm. I just that's all I
use anymore. So it's a newproduct, good pricing. And he's also
going to talk a little about muskiefishing. So and then our second guest,
is going to be Sawyer Brill,Sawyer's communications manager for Vortex Edge Vortex
(01:38):
Optics, and there's some activities comingup at the Vortex Edge facilities. There's
early sight in classes, you know, August fifteenth and sixteenth. We'll talk
all about the details on that. But you know, we're almost to the
middle of August, and you thinkthat archery season opening in a month,
all the western hunts for our treeelk opening in a month. Another fast
(02:04):
summer. But otherwise, every weekwe get to talk about gear. Now,
which time for the Ultimate gear Heads. This week's gearhead segment is bellowed
by Middleton Pool, Middleton, Wisconsin. Hey, before you start spending all
your money on outdoor gear, havethe Ultimate Gearheads check it out. They
will set you straight. Hey,folks, you don't see that Middleton Ford
(02:25):
sticker. You paid too much.Remember, you need some cool features on
your trucker car Middleton Motorsports. Iwas just over there the other day.
They put it a new putting ina new Dino machine. So they got
some pretty cool things happening over there. As far as stuff to add to
your vehicles. Wally, what arewe talking about for gear? Well,
(02:47):
Captain this week's really cool piece ofgear is a cellular trail camera. It's
the GSM Stealthcam Reactor. This trailcamera gets five stars. It has superior
quality and features twenty six megapixel photoresolution, ten ADP video resolution at thirty
fps with a burst mode of oneto nine images per triggering. It has
(03:09):
a one hundred foot and no glaredetection range with a quick trigger speed of
zero point four seconds. The stealthCam Reactor trailcam. It is really a
cool piece of gear and gets yousome amazing wildlife photo images. Captain Well,
is that one of those words. It notifies you when you're sitting a
(03:30):
near recliner. Yes, it is. It can be hooked to your email
or your text messaging, and whena big buck walks by your food plot
and turns his head, you geta great photo and it'll notify you.
So yeah, the backdoor swings openand the guy who goes running out right,
(03:51):
Yeah, I got a buddy whouses some of those in my God,
it's like, you know, Isee the pros and cons of it,
but while it's there, it's they'vecome a long ways with this technology.
Otherwise, a couple of things happeninghere. A fellow, John Martinson,
gave me a call. They're lookingfor help with a disabled fishing event.
(04:13):
They need some captains, some boatsand so on. You can find
John on Facebook or Messenger otherwise.I have a number six o eight six
two eight two six two three sixtwo two six two three, but you
can find him on Messenger and stuff. It's a disabled fishing event in the
Madison area. A lot of thatgoing on these days. Yeah, and
(04:38):
fishing has been very good in theMadison area captain with Lake Mendota and Lake
Manona pumping out a lot of bluegirls, some nice walleyes being caught.
The guys are kind of slowing downon the musky thing because the water is
almost eighty It's been seventy nine andeighty in a few areas, so you
have to be careful. Even ifyou catch a big musky at that temperature
(04:58):
and let it go, there's agood chance it might go to the bottom
and dice. So I think it'sgreat camp. Everybody's acknowledged that, and
don't fish muskies over eighty degrees.Yeah, we gotta go. I think
we gotta go to a mandatory catchand release. I hate to see these
tournaments happening when there's eighty eighty onedegree water. They're hauled into a pier,
and even though they're out of thewater a short period of time,
(05:21):
it's still I just think it's tothe point where we have to do that,
Hey, Wally, crazy story wherewe get out of the segment.
A man was fired after he saveda moosecalf from a black bear on a
Canadian highway. The guy put themoosecalf in his car and drove it home,
but the company he worked for basicallylet him go because he stuck the
(05:43):
calf in a company vehicle. Soult, Well, yeah, I'm what's that,
Wally. He's just trying to helpout and look what happens. Yeah,
you know, it's part of mothernature. I'm sure the black bear
would have got it, but otherwise, stay with us. Rich Ryanhar's going
to talk about a new product offilms, brand of Brideline and some must
(06:04):
be fishing tips. Hi, I'mSewn Clary. Whether you're looking for your

home, their wives say, haven'tyou left yet? This is Ultimate Outdoors

(08:24):
segment has brought to you by theWilderness Fishing Game Store in Sack City,
Wisconsin. Stop by and visit withtheir pro staff or all of your fishing,
hunting and shooting supplies. You'll beglad you did. Joining us.
Next is a hardcore musky angler. He has fifty five years of muskie fishing
experience. Rich has been in thefishing industry over forty five years, guided
(08:45):
for seventeen years, and is currentlythe Wisconsin rep for Finn's Braids fishing line
company. Rich Reinhart, Welcome tothe show. Hey, good morning.
How you doing Wali? Very goodand thanks for joining us. Rich tell
us a little bit about fins thatBraided fishing line and where is it made.
Well, Finns is you know, basically been in business, uh,
(09:09):
you know quite some time. Imean people don't recognize the name. They
think of it as a new braid. But Actuality the company. They're two
textile companies in America are actually three, but the two that make braids for
other companies by their specs and inreturn they just finally, with so many
companies going to overseas to make theirbraids, they finally said, hey,
(09:33):
why don't we make our own privatelabel. So that's how Finns was born.
And Finns has been around now forI think twelve years and just coming
to the Midwest now in you know, in this present year. So what
poland test lines are available in thebraided fishing lines from Finns. Well,
(09:54):
it's gonna do you know, there'sdifferent categories you know that you know Finns
has you know, for different suchtions, but you know, basically depending
on you know, let's say you'vegot you know, Spin five, which
is uh tensile strength of ten pound, but it's got equivalent of one pound
model. Now on the other hand, they've got one it's called forty G
(10:16):
and it's got a tensile strength offifteen pound tests and yet it's uh the
size of two pound models. Soyou know, and as far as the
category, because of the different categories, it could go anywhere from you know,
four pound, you know, say, you know, tensile strength up
to two hundred and fifty pounds. So there's a wide variety. But it's
(10:39):
going to determine which one which processthat they're using to make you know,
that will determine your monol versus tensilstrength. So you know, it's it's
it's they've been around doing this along time. So I'm looking at a
box right now. Uh, it'sthe xsprate Big Game line eighty pound and
(11:00):
it's a three hundred yards school andit's only a sixteen pound Moneo equivalent.
So this is super strong, nostretch, but it has eight braids.
Does that help it stay around theeight end? Yes? They you know,
you know, all of all ofFinn's line is basically extremely round and
it's is due to the process thatwere you know that the line has made.
(11:24):
But they yes, it's gonna stayaround, and that would be the
preferred It's going to give you smoothercasting by elongating the line. You know,
you're gonna get that smaller diameter. You know that. Like I said,
they're the people that you know, make this. Dave Birch is the
is the mastermind behind Fins and uhin braid in general. I mean he's
(11:46):
the go to guy and so he'sthe guy that was in charge of fins
and he uh you know, he'sthe stuff is super is great line.
So also I notice it comes indifferent colors. In for instance, if
you're a crappie fisherman, you couldget an eight pound strength it's only one
(12:07):
point five mono and it comes inyellow, so you can actually watch for
your bites. What do you thinkabout the colored lines. Well, I
didn't know what to quite make ofit, you know, because as a
muskie fisherman, you know, I'lluse green, I'd use you know,
white, i'd use blue. Youknow, some of the guys in central
Wisconsin using orange. But while you'vekind of opened my eyes, you know,
(12:28):
you've guied, you know, downthere in the Wisconsin River area,
and you seem to prefer that yellowto where it's easier for you to see,
especially with those lower pound tasks. So and I'm finding out more and
more that a lot of the walleyeguys are switching over the braid because of
the sensitivity. Therefore they're liking theyellow because they're using the lighter pound,
(12:50):
you know, the lighter pound tensilstrengths. Well, the line casts really
far i've had a chance to try. It is an excellent product. And
sometimes you'll do like the yellow linefor instance we talked about. And then
you can tie a blood knot andhave a floor of carbon leader. For
instance, you might have a tenpound braid and then have an eight pound
(13:11):
leader. You can either use asmall swivel or do a blood knot,
depending on how long your leader is. You don't want to real your swivel
into your line, so you gotto that's a consideration or real you're swimming
a rod tip right, all right, exactly. I'll tell you something that's
interesting. Interesting. They just cameout with a new line. It's called
ice Tamer. And one of thebiggest problems people have with braid, you
(13:33):
know, is the fact that itwas soak up water. The fact of
it is they've got this line calledice Tamer, and it doesn't soak up
water. And it has been dueto the process when they you know,
when they excrude the line and thenthey've got a resin process that they shoot
into it, which makes it extremelyround, but it also blocks the lenning
(13:54):
moisture soaking up into the line,so it actually repels the water. You
can use this, you know, you know, this ice Tamer without worrying
about you know, the lion freezing. Fantastic. Well, Rich, thanks
for joining us. I know you'reprobably out heading fishing. I know you've
got a beautiful forty eight inch muskiethe other day, so congratulations on that.
(14:18):
Well, thank you very much,Wally. All Right, Rich,
thanks for being our guests, andwe'll talk to you soon. Sounds great.
Folks. That was Rich Reinhardt.Stay tuned, We'll be right back.

you left yet? This is UltimateOutdoors Radio. Hey, for all you
(16:10):
bird hunters, remember to pick upyour membership for Cedar Valley Hunt Preserved.
That will be mandatory to have amembership this year at Cedar Valley. Well,
we have some news coming out ofVortex Optics Vortex Edge and Sawyer Brill
is going to join me. Sawyeris Brandon communications manager and they actually have
some in house classes coming up whichwe're going to talk about. And it's
(16:34):
a good time of the year todo it because it's it's warm out and
they can do it right in house. Gamar and Sawyer Morning. So Sawyer
Vortex is kicking off the hunting seasonhere with an in house sight in class.
Do you want to go ahead? And tell us about that and how
people can register and dates and soon. Yeah. Absolutely, I guess
(16:57):
for the people who may not befamiliar with the facilities we've got down here
at Vortex, I'll run over thosejust super quick. Sure. So we've
got our we've got our Vortex Edgefacility. So we've got an indoor,
a hundred yard range, indoor, fifty yard range, indoor twenty five,
and then some other cool stuff likea shoot house. There's some facilities outdoors
(17:17):
we can use too, But thegist of it is we've got a team
of instructors that are absolutely incredible. The range itself is not technically open to
the public, but what folks cando is sign up for classes down there,
So no matter what skill level,no matter what you like to shoot,
they've pretty much got a class foreveryone. Long range pistol car being,
(17:40):
they've got a hundred marksmanship course thatI can touch on in a little
bit. But given that background,so in August and November, we're gonna
have two sessions total for what wecall the hunter side in So what that
is is anyone from the public that'splanning to go out deer hunting, whether
it's around here or they're going outwet can bring their rifles they're opic in
(18:00):
and use our indoor ranges. Ithink to your point, Terry, it's
it's pretty hot out right now,so I think having an air conditioned range
and just even the ability to shootout out the fifty yards in a range
is it's fairly unique too in thesetting. So August fifteenth and sixteenth from
three thirty to seven thirty and thenNovember eight through nine from three thirty to
(18:22):
seven thirty are going to be thosetwo sessions. Well, Sawyer, I
have to tell people if they haven'tseen it, your your facilities is the
bomb. Those section ranges are justplaying cool. Hey what about two?
We should mention maybe if if theparents have a kid that needs to maybe
might want to attend. Is thatokay? Or do you have an age
(18:44):
limit or yeah? So so howwe set that up? Terries? There's
a there's a sign up form onlineand if you've got any questions or you
need help signing up, you cancall one eight hundred four Vortex or shooting
an email to info at sportex Opticsdot com. They can help you get
signed up. So what you're gonnado is you're gonna see chunks for sessions,
(19:07):
and then you just sign up fora general time block and it's going
to ask you how many folks aregoing to be with you, how many
firearms you got, and then fromthere you're good to go. And I'd
say the other thing too, iswe've got what we call a deer camp
set up outside of the facility wherewe're gonna have free food, there's gonna
be giveaways. We've got some pulltabs where people can can win some really
(19:30):
cool stuff and get ready for deercamp. So plenty to do. Even
if you're just going to shoot,we definitely want you to come hang out,
tell some deer stories and and meetno more of our team and just
a real cool, unique event.Sawyer. I'm coming for the food.
So just to let you know, hey, we got a couple of minutes
(19:52):
left, Sawyer. So just lessquickly run through what the staff will do
when a person walks in the doorwith his right fall, whether you need
the bolt removed, but what thestaff will do to help you get ready
to go afield yep. So Iwould say, in general, we do
ask that you're familiar with with whatrifle you do have as much familiarity as
(20:12):
the optics as possible. You doneed to provide your own AMMO, so
make sure you've you've got some AMMOavailable. It doesn't it doesn't take a
bunch of rounds, depending on dependingon how things are looking. But when
folks get there, they'll be someoneat the door to check their firearm and
make sure everything's good to go there. Uh. And then from there you'll
(20:33):
just follow down the hallway and whenyour time slots up, you'll you'll get
straight on the range. Uh.And what those instructors are going to be
doing is they can take a lookat your your optics set up, make
sure everything's mounted correctly. If you'vealready zeroed your rifle, they can just
confirm that. They'll pull the targetsdown, you can walk through them with
them, look at your group, look how things are going. If you
(20:55):
just mounted a new scope or ifyou need to site it in, they'll
help you out with that too.Can be kind of a process outdoors,
I think, especially with the withthe price of AMMO lately, I think
using as little AMMO as possible isalways pretty key. So they're gonna walk
you through all of that if you'vegot any other questions just in general,
they can walk you through that tosome positional shooting stuff and they're just really
(21:18):
good picking up on the little things, even the little tweaks they can make
in your shoot form, whether it'sit's something you're doing on your Figer poll
or your eye relief on your scopeor something like that that can just make
or break when you get that thatbig buck spe Absolutely hey quickly, Sawyer.
Can you run through the dates andthen how people can get signed up
(21:38):
quickly? Yep? So those datesagain are August fifteenth and sixteenth from three
thirty to seven thirty pm and thenNovember eighth and ninth from thirty thirty to
seven thirty pm. And if youwant to call one eight hundred four the
number four Vortex or shoot an emailthe info at Vortex toptics dot com,
(22:00):
they can get you help. Theycan help sign up. They can tell
you what fesshions are still available, what time thoughts are available in any other
questions. Got you okay? Great? Hey, thanks Sawyer. We appreciate
dan. Hey. That was SawyerReal from Vortex Optics Vortex Edge. Remember

Now it's time for the Ultimate Dumassegments. This segment is brought to
you by Grampa Ray Outdoors. Ifyou want to put some food plots on
your property and need some expert advice, contact John O'Brien at Gramparray Outdoors and
he will such a straight kept him. Hey. On this week's UDA,
(25:03):
were traveling out to the state ofCalifornia. There was a fellow that he
was a hunter who shot a trophyelk. And the thing about it is
is he took the head and cameback and got a couple backstraps in a
quarter and left the rest. Sobasically he was fine for wasted meat.
(25:26):
They find him almost seven thousand dollarsand he's not able to hunt in the
US for a couple of years. But one of those deals where he left
most of the meat and I don'tknow how how the wardens found out about
it, but good deal and sohe you know, he violated this Wildlife
(25:51):
Compact Act also Wildlife Violator Compact.I'm sure some other states will. Most
of them are all jumped and that'sprobably why he can't hunt in the US.
So a lot of that stuff goingon, Wally, What else is
happening with you? Well, mysaying is, if you're not gonna grill
(26:11):
it, then don't kill it.You got you gotta eat all that meat.
I mean, come on, man, Yeah, really, what else
is going on is some trap shooting. You know during the summer and fall.
There's leagues and stuff like that. But the Wisconsin River Sportsman's Club,
which is on County trunk Y andmazam Mani, Wisconsin, has a hundred
bird team shoot available. It's Augusttwenty seventh from nine am to four pm,
(26:37):
So you can give those folks acall and their number six O eight
two two zero zero one sixty sixif you want to have a good time
trap shooting along the lower Wisconsin River. Yeah, Wally, I don't know
how along that club has been inexistence, but I remember back when my
dad and a whole bunch of fellasbuilt that building. So it's been there
a long time, probably one ofthe older clubs in the state, which
(27:00):
is pretty cool that there's still aplace for these for them to go and
you know, have classes for huntersafety and all that good stuff. Otherwise
coming up this month you might notyou might want to take this in and
that's the Waterfall Expo up in Oshkosh, over one hundred and thirty vendors.
There's going to be a very coolyouth zone and that's sponsored by the Brendan
(27:22):
Kilmerton Foundation. A lot of youthactivities too many to mention. I will
be talking with Don Kirby before thatand we'll do a little interview on that.
But also they have some dog competitions, so you can bring your dog
as long as it's leashed, andthat's going to be an Oshkosh, Wisconsin
the weekend of August twenty six. We'll do a follow up interview on that.
(27:45):
So pretty good stuff, good activityfor you to go to do.
They have those dogs that leap aboutthirty forty feet and land in the swimming
pool. Yep, kind of soundslike they do. So it's called dock
dogs or something like that. It'sfun just to get a cup of coffee
and watch the dogs. Some arereally super athletic dogs. Pretty fun.
(28:07):
Oh yeah, it is fun.Otherwise, you know, another thing to
think about with everyone's thinking of headingout into the woods, again obviously,
and that's tick prevention, you know, and it's very seriously you want to
you know, you want to makesure that you got everything covered. They
have some fabric spray called Promethean fabrictreatment spray your clothes down. So it's
(28:33):
something to think about because all ofa sudden there's going to be a lot
of people heading in the woods forfall, Turkey fall, deer out west
everywhere, so wally, yep.And actually, if you get Lime's disease,
it's not a very fun thing. So after your outdoors you should be
checking yourself for ticks and your spouseand making sure you don't have any those
little deer ticks on you because theyare little buggers, that's for sure.
(28:57):
Yep. Hey, far we getout of this segment. Story Out in
Iowa, unbanded rare whooping crane washanging out with a bunch of sandhill cranes
cranes that was back this spring.A couple first spotted spotted the endangered crane
and it's only one of six hundredthat live in the wild. That's pretty
(29:18):
cool. So they are trying tofigure out what the deal is being it
was unbanded and there's a couple ofunbanded wild chicks around and they think it's
probably one of those. But thebird summers in Wisconsin and winters in Alabama,
so that's a pretty cool little story. Very cool. Speaking of wildlife
(29:41):
and outdoors, talk to Bruce Funnisyesterday. He's going to be a interview
coming up shortly on our show. He's flying up to the Yukon and then
helicoptering into a really remote area totake photographs of these amazing huge bears.
So it'll be interesting how he does. Right now, he's concerned because there's
a lot of wildfires there and you'regonna be heliported into a real remote area.
(30:06):
So they're really watching fires and winddirection and stuff like that. But
quite an adventure. Well, andwe should say if someone's looking for the
most unique gift, Bruce Hassle fantasticwildlife prints available. Photos and prints available.
You can discro on our website.Find Bruce fons. Hey. Thanks
