You're on board with Ultimate Outdoors Radioon a quest to bring the outdoors to
you once again. Our resident guidesto the outdoors, the Captain and the
Wall Dog. Hey Good, SaturdayMorning. This is Wally the Wall Dog
(00:33):
Mampy along with Captain Terry Frye.Morning, Captain, Hey good, Sorry
morynt Everyone, happy archery opener.I can't believe it's already Wisconsin archery opener
for everyone. So we'll chat alittle bit about that in the first segment.
But people are gonna we're excited gettingout in the woods. But today
(00:56):
we are gonna talk. We're gonnaactually do a full interview show with the
gal named Angieu and she owns twoRivers Fishery in Kentucky and they basically process
Asian carp. Now, I know, the whole Asian carp scene has been
very quiet as to what's been goingon, so I thought it's a good
time to get her on board. You know, they're they're talking about processing,
(01:21):
you know, hundreds of thousands ofpounds of carp. They actually have
a website. They sell a lotof the product that you can eat.
They sell to many countries and theinteresting things she was one of the only
Asian carp business that survives through theCOVID era. Ten other ones went out
of business, So thank god thatshe is still in business and expanding into
(01:46):
a couple other states. So that'swhat we're gonna be talking about. You'll
learn a lot with the Asian carpscene here as far as what's going on.
Well he Otherwise, every week weget to talk about gear now,
which time for the Ultimate gear Heads. This week's gearhead segment is followed by
Middleton four Middleton, Wisconsin. Hey, before you start spending all your money
(02:06):
on outdoor gear, have the UltimateGearheads check it out. They will set
you straight. Hey, folks, you don't see that Middleton forward stick or
you paid too much. This coolerweather makes me think of going in and
getting your car done to beat therush. Batteries, tires, winterization,
because the rush will be coming wallyhappen. It makes you thinking of going
(02:28):
and buying a new truck. Yeah, I think I'm gonna hold off for
a little bit with the uh yeah, maybe ten probably ten. Maybe this
one might outlive me. I don'tknow. Well, I know you've bought
a few trucks from Middleton Ford. They do a great job over there.
Awesome place, hey, Captain. This week's really cool piece of gear is
a crossbow. It's the ten pointTurbo S one crossbow. It has a
(02:52):
silent cocking and silent decocking AQ slidesystem. With just five pounds of force,
you can backwind the handle and stopit anytime without fear of damage,
injury, or losing control. Theten point turbos one is a fantastic two
stage trigger with zero creep and threeand a half pounds of pull. The
Turbo S one measures just thirty oneinches long and it's compact at seven point
(03:15):
two inches wide. It's incredibly accurateand shoots at speeds up to three hundred
ninety feet per second. It sellsfrom around fourteen hundred dollars. It's shorter,
safer, and it's awesome. Captain. Yeah, you know, they
have their place, Wally. Iactually shoot one because I do have some
box blinds with my rocking chair andin case I need to take a nap,
so I have to shoot a crossbowlout of it. But I'm still
(03:37):
going to be shooting a compound forElk on my Arizona hunt in a couple
of years. But you know,Wally, as long as we're on that
subject, I'm gonna bring back adid you know? And ask you if
you know about this. So Saturdaynight, I'm sitting in a bar in
Lansville, Wisconsin. Can you imaginethat every Saturday night. So I'm talking
(03:58):
with a gal named Tracy, andI believe she's listening because her and I
got in an intense discussion about kidsand hunting. So she was telling me
that any child of any age canhunt in Wisconsin, and I said,
no, I don't believe that.So we got into quite a discussion,
and I, you know, Ishould give a little of Tracy's background.
(04:20):
She's pretty good in the outdoor. She's a trapper, she's trapped an otter,
a fifty three pound beaver, abobcat, she's a bowl hunter,
she's shot a bear. So I'mthinking, well, maybe she does know
what she's talking about. So overa beer there, she googled up,
you know, did a Google searchand Wally, did you know that any
(04:42):
child can hunt at any age?Did you know that? Yep? This
mentor hunting. As long as they'rewith an adult. There's only one firearm
between the two. You can takea youngster maybe seven or eight year old
out in the field. And yes, that's to get more kids involved.
Well, let me add to that, because this happened. Scott Walker got
(05:04):
this bill through on May twenty seventeen. Now there's another hits to this.
And basically with this bill he passedthe mentor and the child can carry a
weapon. So really you legally youcould have a five year old child carrying
a rifle and it's legal now.So I was wrong on that. I
(05:29):
learned something and Tracy was right. So I told her that I would give
her credit on the air. Wally, Well, you did fall through.
You know, it's good to seewomen out there hunting too and taking their
kids because that's a big audience.There. A woman bought that crossbow I
just described and it was really amazing. She shot a deer last year with
her husbands and wanted her own.Yeah, make sure you guys stay safe.
(05:51):
We don't need people falling on treestands. Coming up, Angie,
who's gonna talk. We're gonna reviewthe whole Asian carp fishery with the processing
part of us. Hey with usHi, I'm Sean Clary. Whether you're

(08:22):
for new purchases. Well, ontoday's show, we're going to talk a
little bit about Asian carp. Wehave not visited Asian carp from the past
couple of years, and luckily Ihave an interview with a gal who actually
owns a Asian carp processing plant andher name is Angie. You from Two
Rivers Fishery down in Kentucky. SoAngie is joining us this morrow, and
(08:46):
Goodmorrow, and Angie, good morning, Good morning, you bet and thanks
for jumping on board and doing this. I know you are very busy,
so we'll hustle on through. SoAngie, just question, so where is
your fish factory located? In?How many years you've been in business processing
(09:07):
carve? Hi? Yeah, weare located in Weekliff, Kentucky. You
know a Mississippi River and or Hareor Hare River the confluence, so we
have. Yeah, we started toprocess and the export the Asian carp from
nine, yeah, ten years agothis year you know, yeah, thirteen,
(09:31):
two thy thirteen we start the processand export the Asian carp. Yeah.
Well, popular question for our listeners, how many pounds of Asian carp
have you processed well, either processper year or in the last ten years
a lot. I know. Yeah, from very beginning we started the first
(09:52):
and a second year very slow.We processed above one million, and after
that every year we double until nineteenbefore the pandemic. Pandemic nineteen, we
hate almost ten millions. So ourtarget now is for twenty million per year.
You're saying ten million pounds of Asiancart per year? Is that what
(10:16):
you're saying? Twenty million pounds? That's our that's our sorry, I think
wow, yeah, let me okay, sorry, I think I'll confuse you.
Yeah, when we started, youknow, we processed about one million
pounds per year. Okay, forthe last ten years, every year we
(10:39):
increase our production. Until two thousandnineteen were almost processed ten million pounds.
But after pandemic, after twenty twenty, we we suffered a lot. We
almost you know closed. So ourtarget now we're coming back. Can we
(11:00):
recover from the pandemic. So weare going our goal is twenty million pounds
per year per location. Well, and that just shows you how many carper
in these fisheries. And thank godwe have a processing plan to try and
lower this population. So Angie areyou seeing the Asian carp population being reduced
(11:24):
because of your fishery and the processing. I don't know that, but I
know we are on the right way, right track to control the to reduce
the population of Asian carps. Youknow, our emission is reduced, reduce
redefined Asian carps by industrializing it,by industrializing it. Yeah. And on
(11:52):
your website, which I encourage everyoneto go to, and we'll talk later
on about all the products you offer. But something I found interesting is your
in future plans is to produce cosmeticingredients from the fish scales and jewelry from
the fish bones. You want totouch on that. Oh, yes,
(12:13):
yes, we have a punner DAhave doing test for the cosmetic and blood
the bones we can use for jewelry. We have the samples already. By
the end of this year, wewill put it into market. Okay.
Yeah, And as I said earlier, the people need to visit your website
(12:35):
Two Rivers Fishery. It's fantastic withall the different products you offered just from
one fish. So we have abouta minute left, Angie in this segment.
So how do you mainly get yourharvested Asian carp is is it from
private fishermen, commercial fishermen or oh, commercial fishermen. We have about you
(12:58):
know thirty a commercial fishm and groupfishing for us. Okay. And then
are you planning any other expansions toother states in the future, Yes,
we did. We had purchased abuilding in Typtical Contact, Tennessee. We
(13:18):
have got that building purchased. That'sour second location and also our goal is
to process twenty million pounds of fishper day per year in that location.
Our third location will be in Illinoisin Cairo area, and that one will
(13:39):
be for our retail so we willpromote value added products. Okay, yep,
so okay, Angie states, We'regoing to take a short break and
then we will have you back onfor the second second. Okay, thank
you. Hey, I'm visiting withAngie. You from two Rivers Fishery on

stopping back here in Ultimate Outdoors Radio. If you miss the first segment,
(15:31):
I am talking with Angieu from TwoRivers Fishery in Kentucky, and we are
talking about what is going on inthe Asian carp world as far as processing
them and with the population crazy populationsall over in these rivers and lakes were
luckily to have Two Rivers Fishery. So Angie, thanks for jumping back with
(15:54):
us. So Angie, you mentionedin the first segment about the pounds of
Asian carp you are processing. Obviouslyyou must feel that we are making progress
as far as somewhat reducing population.Do you think we are trying to reduce
the population. The problem is wedon't know the population now. Yeah,
(16:18):
okay, yeah, Well that's that'swhy we have the continued studies even up
here in Wisconsin. So Angie,I don't know if this is a good
question for you or if it's fora biologist, but do you some of
the negatives you see with Asian carpdo you feel that it disreduces maybe other
fish populations? Oh? Yes,I think Asian carbra are posing a significantly
(16:48):
late challenges in America economically, youknow, ecologically, these too many Asian
carbra too many, it's heard, and they tap to populations by eating all
the the food and also taking aspace. Yeah, and I was I
(17:10):
was kind of figuring that was goingto be your answer. But you know,
another thing too is if we donot control this Asian card population.
The big thing is we're up herein the Midwest. We're trying to protect
a seven billion dollars fishery called theGreat Lakes Region. So it is important
to have you doing what you're doing. So we're going to jump over a
(17:30):
little bit to your website and differenttypes of products and things that you offer.
You had a really cute saying, and I once again I want to
encourage people to go to Two RiversFishery website. The cute saying you had
on there is eat them to beatthem. I think that's okay. Actually
(17:52):
this is from official from Illinois. He said, if it cannot beat them,
eat them, I'd like to sing. But actually, you know,
in spite of the mispresented, youknow, population and misconceived the image in
American Asian carp are indeed superfish. You know, it turns thirteen percent of
(18:18):
global fish consumption. It's the biggestspecies in the world compelled with card or
with salmon. And also the theyare healthy fish, low in mercury and
the hiding or make us three soonly people don't know that these are The
(18:40):
nutritious value is very very close tosalmon. This is a good fish.
So that's why I like the idea. We eat them over of the world.
The biggest fish species in the world. So our fish, our Asian
carps, are wild. It's betterthan Asian countries all farmed. Yeah,
(19:00):
well so yeah, that's why wecan eat them. That's a very good
point. So cut, So wheredo you sell your Asian carp once it's
processed? Countries or obviously you sellin the US, but you sell other
countries too, right Angie, Oh, yes, you know. We are
so far we are the biggest Asiancarp exporter in the States, but we
(19:22):
stopped we delayed by pandemic in thelast three years. Before then, before
the pandemic, ninety percent of ourproduct exported. We exported to eleven countries
Asian, Middle East, Middle East, Europeans. And also we try now
we learned a license by the pandemic. We also try to develop value added
(19:47):
products by to sell locally. Wehave market for like a fresh fish for
Asian community, and also we tryto develop like a sauci the paties for
local market. Yeah, hey,Angie, we got about a minute left.
(20:07):
So speaking of all those and yourwebsite, what would you encourage people
that go to your website, whatwould you suggest they kind of purchase first
to get a get a feel forwhat you do with Asian carp You got
a certain a couple of popular products. Yeah, Sofra, you know you
can go to Asian supermarkets and tofind out our products fresh and also we
(20:30):
are going you can go online andthe twine. We have a new when
you edited products pipe food salt tweetone hundred percent of our fish, which
is where we tried a couple ofhundred pounds. Already people like it.
So we will put on our websiteand start setting very soon. Great all
(20:52):
right, Angie, Well I sureappreciate you taking some time spending and uh
I was visiting with Angie you fromTours Rivers Fishery on Asian carp. So
and you keep up the good workand maybe we'll have you back this fall
the chat. Oh, thank youvery much so you are mother, welcome
to come and glad to share it. Would it would be a fun visit.

you left yet? This is UltimateOutdoors Radio. Hey, welcome back,
folks, and thanks for listening. You know, people do some incredibly stupid
things outdoors, and now it's time. Now it's time for the Ultimate Dumas
segment. The segment brought to youby Grapparay Outdoors. Good time to fertilize
(23:53):
all school plots, Walume Captain. This story is courtesy of Wisconsin Outdoor News.
This week's UDA goes to an organizationcalled the Animal Liberation Front, which
is labeled by the FBI as anextremist group. The Trumpelo County Sheriff's Department
and Western Wisconsin reported in August sixteenththat a hole was cut in a chain
(24:15):
link fence enclosure at the Olsen FurFarm the previous weekend. Over three thousand
mink escaped. Workers have been franticallyusing traps and fishing nets to try to
recapture all these little mink. Somehave traveled quite far, making it quite
a challenge. What's interesting, Wisconsinproduces the most mink pelts in the United
(24:36):
States, and the USDA reported thatthe country's twenty twenty two mink production was
valued at thirty nine point two milliondollars kept in, those minks are worth
a lot of money. You know, Wally, when I read that story,
when we were growing up, ourneighbor raised mink, and every once
in a while they would escape, and back then they were cutting a lot
(24:56):
of the fences. And you know, that was thirty years ago, and
I've often wondered, does anyone stillraise mink? And when I read that
story in Trempolo, Yeah, sothat's been an ongoing thing for fifty some
years. And as far as tryingto catch all those critters, they're pretty
wily, so that will be avery tough deal. Otherwise, Wally in
(25:21):
the news. I don't know ifpeople missed it, but the end up
National Walleye Trail Tournament on Devil's Lake, North Dakota. Boy, did the
pros discovers a bite on their JohnHoyer won a three day weight of ninety
pounds. He was averaging a littleover thirty pounds a day on Devil's Lake,
(25:42):
North Dakota. So they uncovered somegiant walleyes, and the interesting thing
a lot of them. Wally. We're using slip bobbers with a crawler and
watching these fish bite on their liveand that's how fussy they were, these
big fish. You had a downsizeto a worm and a hook. You
(26:03):
know, Captain, was that afive fish limit or ten fish limit?
Five? Yeah? Five fish. That's averaging six pounds of fish every day.
That is an incredible fishery out there. Actually Hoyer had a weight of
thirty nine pounds one day, sothat was an eight pound average. You
know. Yeah, that that kindof just you know, made everyone realize,
(26:29):
holy macro, there's some there's alot of giants in this lake.
And I mean that was you know, I mean it was a lot of
guys were getting those. So butotherwise, Wally, around here seems like
the bite of slowed pan fishing seemsto be the hot ticket for people.
What are you hearing? Yep,the blue gill bite. It's really a
lot of fun on the Madison chain. And that holds up for a while
(26:51):
and now pretty soon Lake Wisconsin willrev up once it gets cold. The
magic water temp out there for ushas been around fifty degrees. So right
now we're still in the low seventies. We've got a waste to go.
But you can still troll for walleyes, cover a lot of ground, figure
out where they're at, like forinstance, with flicker shads and shad wraps
with planer boards. Once you findthem, you can slow down and cast
(27:12):
a half a crawl around a jigand that seems to be pretty good.
Yeah, the biggest thing is yougot to look for them, and they
have a short bite window. Iknow the Mississippi down in Clinton, Iowa
thirty four pounds one that yesterday. But some of the really good sticks on
the river actually zeroed. I thinkthere was four teams that zeroed for the
(27:34):
Ames River shootout down there. Soyou know, it's and I found that
the last month. You can goto wing damn and if you'll never well,
I think there was only one damnwe ever got over two fish on
You get one to two fish andactually need to go back and revisit it
because one moral slide up there. And so it's just there's just you know,
there's baitfish surfacing everywhere. So butyou're seeing more and more gulls starting
(28:00):
to feed on the surface, whichmeans there's some dead chads starting to float.
So it'll only get better out there. But I'd say pan fish is
the answer. You know. That'sinteresting. You mentioned you catch two or
three fish in a spot and move, and a good angler has kind of
a feel for that. But Ellenderalways had a sing don't leave fish to
find fish. If you're on aspot and you're spot locked and you're catching
(28:23):
fish, just kind of stay theretill they run out, and that's when
you're going to move spot to spot. But if you know it's been a
two fish bite, captain, yougot to pick up and leave. Well.
And what it is is if there'sfish there, you need to revisit
it, you know, because alot of times more will slide up there,
say in the middle of the day. I remember back on Lake Wisconsin
(28:44):
when I was doing tournaments, Iused to have a milk run and I
hit my five spots three times aday because you know they were going to
feed there. And that's kind ofwhat it is with all the fish right
now. While I heard a bunchof shooting they're shooting some teal on the
Mississippi. I was surprised how muchshooting there was in the Yeah, well
that was that was teal and geese. So hundreds are being successful or She'll
(29:10):

straps, and don't be fallen outof trees. We don't need to.
