On the Badger Sports Network from lear Field. Badger Hockey
is on the air.

Speaker 2 (00:05):
People have asked why Wisconsin, oh what to say? And
I said, because it is Wisconsin Star.

Speaker 3 (00:12):
Sorry, six straight wins against nashally ranked opponent.

Speaker 4 (00:22):
Yes, we want to hang banners in this building here
in Madison.

Speaker 5 (00:29):

Speaker 3 (00:57):
Sixty fifth meeting all time between Top and Ohio State.
The Buckeyes, though lead the series thirty two wins, twenty
seven losses, five ties, thirty one seventeen and five in
Big Ten competition against the Badgers dating back to the
thirteen fourteen season. Again, Ohio State went to Madison and
beat the Badgers two to one in overtime and two

(01:17):
to one in regulation. This past October, Badgers have lost
six of seven games to Ohio State under the direction
of Mike Hastings, Todd Connott, Nick Oliver, and Kevin Murdoch.
And in this building the Badgers are eight sixteen and two.
They've lost six in a row at the Shottenstein Center,

(01:39):
and U two thirteen and one in their last sixteen
games in this building. Last February, the Badgers fell here
three to two in overtime in three to one, and
that put a dent in Wisconsin's chances of winning the
Big Ten regular season championships. So, needless to say, Ohio
State has had Wisconsin's number of late opening face off.

(01:59):
Brought to you by Odyssey Greek Yogurt. Start your day
with thick, creamy and all natural Creek yogurt with real
flavorful fruit odyssee Greek Yogurt. They just celebrated Ohio State's
national championship squad, a few players and assistant coach, former
All American live acker James Laurnidis on the icy drop
the ceremonial first puck with Owen Lynn Mark and Nathan

(02:20):
McBrayer taking the draw, and a sparse crowd here at
the Shottenstein Center considering how well Ohio State has played
this season. Their largest crowd about sixty two hundred this season.
Generally it's when they take on the Michigan Wolverines, and
they'll be hosting Michigan in a couple of weeks to

(02:41):
wrap up the regular season. Referees tonight Jake, Riccooki and
Nicholas Bett, the lineman, Tommy George and Pat richardson the
opening face off. Front to you by Otyssee Greek Yogurt.
Start your day with thick, creamy and all natural Greek
yogurt with real flavorful fruit Odyssey Greek Yogurt. Badger's Cardinal
Road uniforms, white numerals, stripeing Wisconsin diagonally down the chest,

(03:02):
skating right to left. Ohio State home whites with the
familiar buckeye gray helmets and the scarlet striping in hockey pants.
Ohio State dumped the puck in it run around the
boards to the far side wall, deflected out of play.
They'll drop the puck in the Wisconsin zone right in

(03:23):
front of us. Paul and I hash marks extended in
the Ohio State offensive zone. And Tom Castro in his
collegiate debut on top of the crees, getting ready for
the face off to his right. It's won by Ohio State.
Long range shot was deflected to the near corner. After
it there, the Badger's Joe Pullata Chuck got some help
from Christian Fitzgerald. Tyson Dick trying to knife it free,

(03:44):
spins down to the corner. Anthony caregives chase around the
far side wall. Kuchanin protecting the puck. Cara then knocks
down Jake Rossi to the ice. The Badgers turn it
over in a shot block by Pullata Chuck from the
right circle off the stick of defenseman Chris abel.

Speaker 6 (04:00):
A tough play there along the board. It's Ohio States.
The Blue Liner came down and had a lot of
open ice for that one great block by Plotachuck.

Speaker 3 (04:08):
Badger's able to dump it down in and get a
partial change. Tyson Dick heading to the Badger's bench. Wisconsin
can't hold the zone. It's played through the skates of
Logan Hensler and all the way back into the Wisconsin end.
Pensler patient with a puck as he's pressured by gunner
Wolf Fontaine comes round to the far side wall kick
free to Rylan Moseley. Moseley tied up from behind by Burdenside,

(04:29):
fights through the stick check, hands off to deck Shimer.
Slot pass for Morrissey came three, bounced to Quinn. Finley
has shot off a stick in up and out of
play a minute ten into the first period.

Speaker 7 (04:39):
No score.

Speaker 3 (04:39):
Wisconsin trying to snap a four game losing streak against
the Ohio State Buckeyes.

Speaker 6 (04:45):
You know, both games in Madison they were low scoring
two to one, but both games there are goals. In
the first few minutes of the game. Vader scored three
thirty five in on a power play. Moseley in the
second game was twenty one seconds in by Ohio State.
So we'll see what happens today. But obviously that kind
to set the talent for those games and stay that
way for a while.

Speaker 3 (05:04):
Third line out for the Badgers, Lynmark Korback and shol
Is shot block collected by Max Montes. He scoops it
out to center and then hammered right back in by
Ben deck Sheimer, taken there by William Smith, sophomore defenseman
from Toronto, held in by Jack Horback. Long range shot
deflected off an arm of a defenseman I think it
was Smith, and actually went fluttering into the air about

(05:26):
ten feet up and then dropped into the catcher's glove
of the goaltender Logan Turners, and he hangs on for
another draw. Turnas two years at Yukon before transferring here
to Ohio State in a Big ten. He's number one
in the league in safe percentage in conference games at
nine to thirty seven, plus goals against at two to eleven.

(05:48):
Steve Rolick had been switching up his goaltenders for the
majority of this season, splitting time with Turnas and then
Christopher Everley, a six ' four sophomore from Pinckney, Michigan.
But right now he's hanging with the Turners, who went
back to back last weekend against Notre Dame and playing
in his fourth straight game. Badgers breakout Linn Mark Daschol

(06:09):
pitched it off the far wall for Horback, out of
his reach and back to Brent Johnson, the transfer from
North Dakota, turned it over its center. Badgers gave it
right back. It bounces around a little bit before Jack
Falan settles it down. Jack Horback needs a change and
banked it off the wall into the Ohio State zone,
and that's where the Buckeyes now collects Sam deck Hutt

(06:30):
software from San Diego.

Speaker 7 (06:31):
Out there a goal. Three points for deck Hut.

Speaker 3 (06:33):
This sweep with Notre Dame last weekend steal it center
morrisy Moseley, left wing Finley forced wide by the defenseman Johnson.
Finley skates it back behind the net, point pass off
a stick, and it forces Anthony Care all the way
back into his own zone. About two and a half
minutes gone by here in Columbus, no score. The Badgers
and the Buckeyes don't.

Speaker 6 (06:52):
Keep waiting for Anton castra Or touched the puck there.
It looked like just to get some nerves out. He
looked like he was going to go back and play
it behind the net. And he just gave it up
and let his defense and take it.

Speaker 3 (07:02):
And now here's Ohio State skating out of its own zone.
Right wing pass to burnside, shoveld it ahead for Thompson,
big left hander throws it off the endborse of the
left wing shot blocked by Care, taken by Care, skates
it up to the Ohio The Wisconsin line got hit
from behind by Thompson, but able to dump it down
into the Badger's get a change turnus now leaves it

(07:22):
off behind the ned for Aiden Hansen Bukata. He is
the transfer from rit spent four years at Rochester Institute
of Technology. A point getting defenseman Logan Hensler poked the
puck off of Fontaine stick back to the Ohio state line.

Speaker 7 (07:38):
Right back up the middle.

Speaker 3 (07:39):
Now it's Ryan Gordon left wing pass, short side shot
blocked carms to the far side. Tassy trying to pull
it free as Dexheimer in the corner. Ohen Mellenbacker out
with Tassy and Ryan Bottrel. Now dex Sheimer helping his
deep partner Hensler Mellenbacher hip checking Gordon into the wall.
Dex Sheimer looks over his left shoulder to find a

(08:00):
place to put the puck as he and Mellenmacher engaged
with a couple of Buckeyes across the way. Now it
slides free and Logan's got it. Tensler takes a look
patient up off the near wall. Botteril can't play it,
must have gotten a piece of it. They wave off,
icing Buckey's reverse behind their own nets to their near side.
Now it's Dylan Gotbaut He can't play it cleanly at

(08:23):
center and Fhalan's pass bounced away off the stick of
Fitzgerald and now Ohio State with possession. Four minutes into
the first no score, Badger's with it again, shoals across
the line. Fitzgerald pushed it to the left corner around
behind the nets, cooking and tap back to Tyson Dick
Pope check by Guzo dicked down on his knees, Wisconsin's

(08:44):
Fitzgerald fired to pass out to the right point, too
hot to handle for Fhalan all the way back to
the Wisconsin zone and there's Anton Castro getting his first
touch as he rims it around to the near side
before the Buckeyes stuff it right back in.

Speaker 6 (08:56):
Actually nice play by Castrolie had players come in both sides,
looks like he's gonna drop it off, turn around and
fired up the glass to a teammate.

Speaker 3 (09:03):
Fitzgerald falls down at center, loose puck picked up by
Abel and he's able to go far side to Dunlap,
who threw it in on. Castro made the stop, left
it behind the net, and that's where Jack Falen picks
it up. Falen the big freshman defenseman six five from Hinsdale, Illinois.
He's been forced into a ton of action this year

(09:24):
because of injuries up and down the defensive core for Wisconsin.

Speaker 7 (09:29):
Dating back to.

Speaker 3 (09:30):
The opening weekend, He's played a regular shift pretty much
all season long and will continue to do so, especially
with the absence of Daniel lotch Buck guys miss fire
no icing Castro again out of his net, rimmed it
around and off the high glass out to neutralize, banged
off the wall. A lot of chuck lost it. Here's
James Hong goal line right little left. Tanner stays on

(09:54):
his skates as he's pushed off balance by care They
battle on the near side boards. Hong pulled it free loose.
Now Shoal out muscled Hong and pitched it out to center.
Thrown back to neutral ice. Now Thomas Wise files it
in around to the left corner. It goes and Ben
deck Sheimer picks it up there. Shots on goal to
to one for Wisconsin. That's all we've had in the

(10:15):
first six minutes of this opening period.

Speaker 6 (10:17):
No score and hardly shots, but hardly a score chance.
It's really just been fucks floating on or puffangles. There's
been nothing Badger's break out. Here's Moseley three on two
to our left.

Speaker 3 (10:30):
Mosley cuts to the middle of the ice across the
line Badger's on side. Nothing really materialized there. Loose puck
in the left circle, taken away by Ohio state gunner
Wolf Fontaine, threw it up to center, wrapped by Wisconsin shoals.
Wisconsin on side. Shoal's looking for an outlet. Moseley pass
his way, taken away by Thompson. Outlet pass to the

(10:50):
stick of Fontaine. Wheels through the center circle, drop past
burn side left wing, now back deep.

Speaker 7 (10:56):
That's the defenseman.

Speaker 3 (10:58):
Carfunya try to scoop it around and instead kept out
of the net, and Wisconsin's failing, goes to get it
and lombs it up over everybody.

Speaker 7 (11:05):
Well, they call Wisconsin for icing.

Speaker 3 (11:07):
They will face off all the way back into the
Badgers owe scoreless thirteen to eighteen left in the opening
period from Columbus just.

Speaker 6 (11:14):
Going around the at Anti Castro on the right side
played it somewhat aggressively turned around to try to get
back to the net. He was a little bit out
of the blue paint dove across. The Badgers are there
to kind of scramble and make sure that bucked him
get around the net and into the net.

Speaker 7 (11:30):
Up Jack Falin protecting the near side post.

Speaker 3 (11:35):
Castro part of the Clark Cup champion Fargo Fours a
year ago had a two sixty two goals against average,
eight to ninety nine save percentage.

Speaker 7 (11:45):
In two and a half years.

Speaker 3 (11:46):
With Fargo, won forty five games. Had a nice career there.
Split time last season with Hampton Slewkinski, who's now with
Western Michigan. He got all the starts in the Clark
Cup playoffs for the Force a year ago. Morrisey on
the ice with Finley and Moseley's shoals and Falin Falan
throwing his body around Zach doing the same. Now it's

(12:09):
deck Cut trying to center. It goes off as stick
or a skate and gathered in by Wisconsin's Moseley sidesteps.

Speaker 7 (12:14):
Gordon snaps off a pass.

Speaker 3 (12:15):
To Finley trying to got around the defenseman, but a
good play by Johnson to Pope check that buck away.
Nowt to neutral ice again, deck Hunt takes a hit
from care Weston Knox. Seeing his first shift, he put
his body into Gordon. The Badgers back in their own
zone to pick it up and hear z Owen Mellenmacher
two goals for Melly and eighteen games this season across
the line, lose pucking' the slot, whack back deep to

(12:37):
the Wisconsin zone. That'll be icing on Ohio State Tonight's
game brought to you in part by Alliant Energy. Visit
Alliant Energy dot com to see how Alliant Energy invests

Speaker 6 (12:53):
Again, going back to Anti cas show from Fargo, the
Batter's every pretty good connection there the last couple of years.
He played with the Farsi last year with Kialada, Chuck
and Mellenbacher and Nick Oliver was the head coach that year,
so the Gudgers have gone to that well a lot lately. Obviously,
they won the Clark Cook Championship last year, so presumably
there's some talented guys there.

Speaker 3 (13:12):
We got puck pop three Botterroll falls down Ohio State
on the attack, but off side Otteroll just trying to
stay out of skates and preventing the Buckeyes from busting out.
They would have had an odd man rush to our
right and eventually when the Buckeyes picked up the puck,
Guzo had it, but a teammate already crossed the line.
Offside on Ohio State.

Speaker 7 (13:32):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (13:33):
Also an interesting connection for the Buckeyes. Their goaltender's coach,
Carter Cryer, was the goaltender coach in Fargo with a
Force last year, so he knows Hanton Castro quite well.
Steve Rollick, the former Badger, the head coach of the Buckeyes,
his top assistant JB. Bittner at os You Grad and
a former Badger's assistant under Mike Eaves. And now the

(13:55):
puck played towards the Badger's net to the right of Castro.
He puts his blocker down in the covers in a
face off to come twelve oh three to go in
the first period, still no score. The Badgers and the
buck Eyes.

Speaker 6 (14:07):
Now, you know, when you go into Ohio State here,
the way they play, you gotta have a lot of
patience on the road, especially with the battery offensively. So
so far, so good for Wisconsin giving up nothing. Haven't
really generated It's a great chance yet, but patience will
be a key tonight.

Speaker 3 (14:25):
The Buckeyes haven't generated anything and that's a good sign
for Wisconsin.

Speaker 7 (14:30):
Badgers have three block shots so far. Buckeys have gotten
very little rubber to the net.

Speaker 3 (14:38):
A lot of chuck gives chase in the Wisconsin zone,
Montez able to poke it behind the net. Anthony care
there his breakout pass behind the stick of Horbach, taken
by Ohio State and then given right back. Schol Now
on the attack left wing, puts one low turnus with
a say he kind of bubbled it, crawled up his
stick in his pad before knocking it behind the nets.
Now the buckeye's able. He passes ahead to Montes, who

(15:01):
dumps it into the badger's at and that's where Castro
will just fire it to the defenseman Zach Shulz. He'll
take the ice available to him up to neutral and
from the red line he'll dump it in and then
a collision right there at the red line is Montes
got the worst of that shoals and he collided right
on the near side boards. Jack Falan now up the
middle to Moseley, sweet little sauce, pass across to Finley,

(15:24):
gains the line and twirls back and then had it
pooked off his stick, almost taken away by the defenseman.
William Smithy does drop past burnside skates in slot shot.
He fired it too high off the end boards swept
out of arms way by dex Sheimer. All the Badgers
coughed it up a great chance for Burnside.

Speaker 6 (15:39):
That time it buzz and kind of goofy bounce off
the back glass. The guy I heard guys talking this
morning about the boars and glass here and talking about
how especially in that ZAMMONI and we're right where it
hit sometimes the puck comes out kind of crazy and
got to be paying attention, and dex Simon did a
great job to clear the bounce off and.

Speaker 3 (15:55):
The Buckeyes attacking the goal to our right as we
look down on the ice surface here in Columbus. Their
top line out there, Fontaine, Thompson and Burnside against the
Badger's number one line. Puck sports three Mosley nearside Morrissey.
He's tied up by Burnside, who heads to the Buckeye's
bench badly needing a change.

Speaker 7 (16:13):
Now.

Speaker 3 (16:13):
Thompson at neutral fires back to the defenseman in Ohio
state will change as well. God bounce sends it into
the Wisconsin's own far corner, run down by deck Hut.
Drop pass intended for Gordon taken away by Wisconsin. Two
on one to our right Tassy with Mellenbacker. Tassy goes
wide right, feeds one in front of the stick of Bottrel,
but he couldn't catch it cleanly. He was right in

(16:34):
front of the net, never got a shot off, shoveled
it to the near corner. Now the Buckeyes take it
from there up the middle of the ice, Gordon to
neutral and now deck Hut god bout that is drops
it down in in pursuits is Gordon ran into Wisconsin's pilata.
Chuck freed the puck for Mellenbacher and Owen tries to
sweep it deep. Picked up by Bottrel, his shot load

(16:57):
of the ice easily steered aside by Turnus. Gordon, pressured
by Bottrell, almost coughed it up and brought it back
to Nathan McBrayer. Mcbrayer's six foot sophomore out of Dublin, Ohio.
Their defensive corp has been solid this season. Now the
fuck coughed off Fitzgerald with it, wheels back pass Knox.
His shot on goal stop by Turnus hit him right

(17:19):
in the chest. He juggled it but then hung on
for a face off. Nine oh nine to go in
the first period. Wisconsin and Ohio State no score. Badger

The Coal Center can't randle the field House. This is
where the magic happens. Where the best players lead with passion,
fight with power, and win with exceptional performance. And now
it's time we add another house to our Badger community.
Meet Madison's newest powerhouse player, UW Health East Park Medical Center,

(18:33):
home of top doctors and advanced treatments all under one roof.
So no matter the opponent, we're the place to defeat it.
UW Health remarkable.

Speaker 7 (18:43):
Hey, A quick.

Speaker 3 (18:43):
Shout out to the UW Madison men's club hockey team,
which won its conference championship last weekend and automatically qualified
for the national tournament. The second time in four years
the Badgers have qualified for the national club Championships, the
only two times Badgers it made it to nationals in
club history. So congratulations to the UW men's club hockey program. Here,

(19:07):
the Badger men's varsity team tied with Ohio State Buckeyes.
Onmie attack. Though Rossie passed behind him left wing, he
was open. He was able to catch and direct on
ring shot in towards the net off the stick of
Joe Dunlap bounced wide of the Badger's net. Rozzie with
it right wing, ran into two Wisconsin Badgers. Tyson Dick
had his right arm pulled back with a hook, no

(19:27):
penalty called, and threw it wildly up through center. Then
it's sent right back by the buck. Guys should be
offside it is. I beg your pardon of icing on
Ohio State. So the Badgers have an offensive zone face
off coming up eight thirty eight to go in this
score his first period.

Speaker 6 (19:43):
Yeah, it looked like a harmless hook. A lot of
times they let stuff like that go if it's not
going to affect the play, but it kind of did.
After the puck came off and riders kind of just
cleared out of danger, they went to change and there
was Ohio State sitting in the far blue line and
fortunately the pass didn'tconnect.

Speaker 3 (19:58):
Ohio State is the least penal ey team in the
Big Ten. Badgers held that moniker for a while until
getting the uncharacteristically undisciplined last weekend against Penn State long
range shot by Joe Pallata chuck went through traffic and wide,
and then Anthony Kerr fired it from the right wing
again why Jack Horback holds the zone, tried to dump

(20:20):
it to the corner when lin Mark gives Chase now
bumped off the puck by Chris Abel.

Speaker 7 (20:25):
Behind the net.

Speaker 3 (20:26):
Badgers tried to center that went off a stick saw
youer' shoal in the corner between the lakes drop pass
linn Mark right wing. Hornback has shot off the stick
of guzoing up and out of player. Good puck movement
though by the Badgers third line of shol Lin, Mark
and Horbach.

Speaker 6 (20:40):
Yeah, there's been a lot of back and forth in
this game, and that's the first, probably extended period of
time Wisconsin tad puck possession of the offensive end. Again,
neither team has really generated much. But you can't do
you can't do that unless you're in the zone. Badgers there,
great job, and now they throw out their first line
and hopefully they continue the work here and try to

(21:00):
put some momentum up here.

Speaker 3 (21:01):
Kevin Morrisey fifty seven percent of the basaw off circle
against Riley Thompson who's at about forty five percent. But
Thompson wins that draw, and the Buckeyes have possession back
in their own zone and they'll look to come out
with it. Carfania up to center off the stick of
Fontaine behind Shoals Castro then stick Candling in the crease,

(21:22):
tried to outlet up the middle, put it on the
stick of Hanson Bukata who skates it back behind the
Wisconsin nets and then held in half the point and
thrown to the near corner.

Speaker 7 (21:32):
I'm not sure if that.

Speaker 3 (21:33):
Was the right decision by Anton Castro that time stick
candling in his own blue paints.

Speaker 6 (21:39):
Some hands out of the goalie stick.

Speaker 11 (21:41):
Oh my goodness, Holy cow, that was a little scary,
but not a nice move it was. He threw it
up the middle, but they retrieved the puck to The
Buckeyes never got a shot back on goal. Here's Wisconsin's
Deckheimer and he just mishandled it neutral. Ice turned it
over look out Here comes Thomas Wise. He shoots one
off the chest of Castro, long rebound, gathered it by Dexzheimer.

Speaker 3 (22:00):
The Buckeyes were in the midst of a change outlet
pass by dex Sheimer, broken up by Ohio State Montes
tries to walk around defenseman Logan Hensler. Good stickto by
Hensler and now back to the corner. It goes dex Sheimer,
knocked down in front of the net by Wise. Back
up on his skates, Buck slides free near side Finley.
He'll scoop it up off the glass and out the
center Ice, drop down with the left hand of the

(22:23):
defenseman Smith and then taking it neutral by Hensler. On
the attack, cut Slot shoots one and kneeling grabbing it
with his glove hand. Logan Turnus, he makes the stop
and hangs on six shot on goal of the period
for the Badgers. Ohio State just three no score six
forty seven until the and FAM first intermission report.

Speaker 6 (22:43):
We've seen a couple of shots at least from our
angle from the d and so far just dead center
of Ohio State's goaltender. I know you're just taking the
opportunity to put it puck towards the net, but you're
not going to get much out of those. If you're
not gonna get a rebound. Most likely it's in the
glove of the goaltender. But every time it's torsenail, you
never know.

Speaker 3 (23:04):
Base off to Turnas's rights and won by Ohio State.
They'll rimmen around to the far side deck cut, pressured
by Mellenbacher stumbling down Gordon from his knees through a
pass to deck cut now right wing god Bout across
the line that can pass didn't get through, and then
god Bout picked it up, snapped one off and kicked
save by Castro with a right path Badgers tried to clear. Apparently,

(23:29):
so they say offside on Ohio State Turnas in his
career against Wisconsin four and two with a one ninety
nine goals against and a nine to thirty eight save percentage.
He stopped thirty seven of thirty eight shots and the
two to one overtime win for the Buckeyes in Madison
back in October. And you may remember Turnas was in
goal last March in the first round Big Ten Tournament

(23:52):
clinching victory, stopping twenty nine of thirty shots to beat
the Badgers, who then waited eighteen days to play in
the end tournament. All the Buckeyes made a nice little
run down the stretch last season. Wisconsin's Dick Hansall, Fitzgerald
Tupele shots up by Turnus and then he covered quickly
as both Horbach and one of the other Badgers on

(24:14):
the far wing wall that was Tyson Dick snipping around
for the rebound.

Speaker 6 (24:19):
Mentioned it's a good numbers by Careness. Yep, you can
kind of go back a lot of goalies from to state.
I've had good numbers against Wisconsin for a while. Looking
before the game the thirty eight games, the last thirty
eight in the series, Baggers have scored three or more
just thirteen times, so it's been really tough to score again.
These guys they've had a lot of success nine three

(24:39):
and when when they get there? But so far both
teams with goose eggs.

Speaker 3 (24:44):
Yep, six minutes to go here in the opening period. Yeah,
the Badgers seventeen times this season have scored two goals
or less one fourteen and two this season went scoring
two goals or less, and unfortunately that's been the case
each of the last four games. All defeats Badgers in
their own zone. Fitzgerald trying to pull it away from

(25:07):
Rozzi Guzo down there too, the co captain. Eventually, Jack
Phalen comes out of the fray with a puck and
then Horbaugh got knocked down from behind. Here's Wisconsin. Fitzgerald
try to skate through a pair of Buckeyes.

Speaker 7 (25:21):
No luck there. Out to center.

Speaker 3 (25:23):
Dunlap able to place it behind Phalen, but his deep
partner Pladachuck goes to get it and wheels around the
net and comes up the middle of the ice. Joe
Pulatachuck has yet to score a goal this season, fires
it down in or out of the right wing wall,
getting an angle on the puck with shol tried to
center and intercepted his pass attempt by the Buckeyes a
collision back in the Ohio state zone. A stick snapped

(25:46):
in half. We play on Kuchen and throwing his body
around TiO. Wahlberg up off the glass and out to neutral.
Badgers retrieve it there and Plata Chuck hammers it right
back down in breakout for the Buckeyes, bounces off a
stick or two. Dex Sheimer reads the play, steps in

(26:07):
near the Ohio state line. Couldn't get it deep and
now Wahlberg again. Headman's to Burnside got a piece of
it as it bounces into the Wisconsin zone in front
of US Logan Hensler with it for Wisconsin, drops it
back to deck Sheimer. Dex Sheimer from the red line
tried to whip it in the Buckey's got in the way.
Moseley now picks it up and reverse his course. Hensler's

(26:28):
lead feed deflected by Morrissey into the attacking zone. With
four nineteen to go in the opening period, middle breakout
for the buck Eyes, the fireside pass Burnside got around
Shoal's left wing on his off wings. Centering pass for
Thompson got through the low slot, but Thompson couldn't reach
it and the Badger's take it from there. Morrissey will
top it down in and got bulldozed down by Burnside.

Speaker 6 (26:52):
I think Ben dex Sheimer had something to do with
that last breakup and the pass across the slot. Convis
some credit for covering over for his pair, a defensive
pair on that line.

Speaker 7 (27:03):
Buck eyes after the puck.

Speaker 3 (27:04):
Damian Carfania, junior from Woodridge, New Jersey, playing in his
ninety six game steal by Wisconsin's tassy stick candling a
bit too much on the left wing, never got a
shot off as Gottbout was in the vicinity buck below
the Ohio state goal line far down to our left.
Mellenbacher takes it, tried to shovel it in front, came
right back to him, and then the Buckeyes pick up

(27:26):
the loose puck lead bet to Gottbaut kicked it into
the Wisconsin zone. Castro steps out of his net and
back hands it around at Jack Fhalen Falan angles it
pass behind bottrel able to reach it with a backhand,
couldn't get a deep Buckeyes now possessed three ten to
go in the first period, still no score.

Speaker 7 (27:43):
Here's Brent Johnson.

Speaker 3 (27:44):
Johnson playing in his one hundred collegiate game, started with
North Dakota, then transferred here to Ohio State. His shot
from the right wing blocked and tear him to the corner.
The Badgers now have possession. Scholz Headman's to Jack Horback,
playing in his one hundred collegiate collegiate game is.

Speaker 7 (28:00):
One rate shot got through.

Speaker 3 (28:02):
Jack Horback, hitting the century mark in games played, burries
one from long range, his first goal in thirteen games.
The Badgers on the board first in Columbus.

Speaker 6 (28:15):
And I don't think he'll get an assessment at Tyson Dick.
I think skated right in front of the net right
as that shot was coming off and screened the goaltender
and made that really difficult to see. And I think
it just went over to the right side of the
goaltender blocker side, and again Tyson Dick skated right through
and right perfectly timed to take the goaltender's eyes away

(28:35):
and it just sailed right past.

Speaker 3 (28:38):
Jack Horback at seventeen ten, gives Wisconsin the lead only
the sixteenth time the Buckeyes have allowed a goal to
be scored in the opening period. Here, Horback lights the
lamp on Wisconsin's eighth shot on goal of the night.
So the Badgers on top they I'm in the ensuing

(29:01):
face off and dump it in. Sawyer's shoul top angled
Shop in the left wing, missed the net off the
corner boards and Wisconsin's got a hustle back into its
own zone that buck ricochet all the way back. Now
a turnover behind the net by Pilata Chuck was taken
by James Hong, tied up by Care as well as
Polta Chuck. Joe came out of there with a biscuit
and then montes me Tim Hong also relentless in his

(29:22):
pursuit of the puck. Anthony Kerr getting some assistance and
able to muscle it out to center, and Able picks
it up for Ohio States and then banked out the center.
Hong now with it back hands and ahead, trying to
get to the puck as Thomas Wise, but he's slowed
by Care. The free puck taken by Linnmark and then

(29:44):
Sawyer Shul will dump it down in two minutes to
go in the opening period, one nothing Wisconsin Porbach I'm
assisted and a penalty coming up here on the badgress.

Speaker 6 (29:54):
Sawyer Shul looked like it was going off to change.
I didn't see it what happened, but other than the
buck eye fall into the ice, see where the call
is here.

Speaker 3 (30:05):
Referee's saying tripping on Sawyer's shoal. He took down too.
Wahlberg all six foot five, two hundred three pounds of
a shoal for tripping at eighteen oh five. I didn't
see the play of it, nor did I. I'm not
sure that's one of Badgers would like to see. Just
go up a goal, keep things going, kind of just

(30:28):
stay in that mode here where there hasn't been much
going on for either team. Even the goal was pretty
a harmless play. But now ah State gets a chance
to get back and get this game tied. Padri's penalty
kill up to eighty one percent and Ohio State they'll
wins the face off. Fontaine straight away Carfonia, the left
handed defenseman to the left wing. Montes back to Carfanja
right side. Fontana went time flast stop by Castro, a

(30:51):
little off balance back upon his skates, moving to his left, looking,
Fontane again shoots one lopead say made by Castro. Padger's
tried to rimming around and out held in by the
hustling Carfonia right wing, Fontaine near the dot back out
to the blue line. Carfonia refeats Fontane slot Burnside slides
a slow moving pass far side to Montes has to
hustle it after it, plays it back to the point.

(31:12):
Long range shot. Carfania off the stick and wide. Fonteane
retrees to the point. Man Carfaia left wing, Montes right wing.
Fontaine tried to kick into his forehand, juggled it a bit,
got it back to the point. Montes Carfania want to
wait to go on the period. Fontaine catches, looks, tries
to shoot, Falin in the way, blocks it to the corner.

Speaker 7 (31:31):
It goes.

Speaker 3 (31:32):
Falan off balance, Fontaine too shoals carries Thompson into the
corner wall. Morrissey trying to out muscle Burnside nice played
by the freshman Gavin Morrissey to out muscle the junior
Burnside and clear it all the way down.

Speaker 6 (31:45):
Badger's getting blocks their sticks in the lanes just to
break up passes, just enough to stop those cross eyes passes,
Those one timers, and those little details make a big difference.

Speaker 7 (31:55):
Six block shots side for the Badgers.

Speaker 3 (31:57):
Castro calmly out of his net, paddles to the near
side glass Badger's unable to clear centering past McBrayer intercepted
by lynn Mark. Badgers shortthanded three on two to our
left and then lind Mark cut off along the wall
by Hanson Buchata and Ohio State possesses twenty three seconds
left in its power place. Seventeen seconds left in the period,

(32:19):
here are the Buckeyes on the attack. Long range shot
kicked out by Castro with a left pad that off
the stick of Hanson Buchata. Then lin Mark picked up
the loose puck and dumped it down in five seconds
ago in the period, Ohio State out of its own
end Hanson Buchata up the near side center ice horn
sounds and that's it for the opening period of play
on not assisted by goal by Jack Horback in his

(32:41):
one hundred collegiate game, and the Badgers have a one
nothing lead after one period. Here in Columbus Uth Sports Medicine,
the healthcare team of the Badgers and proud partner of
UW Athletics.

Speaker 7 (32:55):
Back in one minute. This is Badger hockey from Learfield.

Speaker 7 (33:58):
Well, so far, so good.

Speaker 3 (34:00):
The Badger's, trying to snap a four game losing streak,
have the lead after one period of play on the
road against a ranked Ohio State. Jack Horback gets his
second goal of the season, and in one hundred collegiate game,
the Colonis cist goes to Sawyer Shoal the birthday boy
at seventeen to ten Wisconsin with a one nothing lead,
Badgers had nine shots on goal in the opening period,

(34:23):
limited Ohio State to just six and making his collegiate debut,
and Tom Castro stopped all six Buckeye bids, while Logan
Turnus made eight saves for Ohio States only one penalty
to Sawyer's shoal. Ohio State will have five seconds left
on its first power play when the second period begins
here in a little bit. But you know, solid defensive

(34:44):
effort protecting the freshman goaltender and Tom Castro, And then
you had mentioned it during the first period, Paul, nothing
wrong with putting the fuck.

Speaker 7 (34:53):
On the net.

Speaker 6 (34:54):
Yeah, if you're watching this for excitement, that was not
exactly an exciting period. It's pretty boring. But the Badgers
came out with it with a one goal lead a
couple of shots earlier. Talking about throwing pucks on the
net just right the goalie's chest, that's time, Jack Horbach
kind of the same play. It looked like it was
just gonna be a harmless shot, but Tyson Dick comes
flying in from the side and causes a screen and

(35:14):
just over the shoulder of the goaltender Ternus, and then
I mean it's a clouds your judgment a little bit
out of the period. I thought it was pretty even
and really nothing happened for either team, but the Badgers
do come up with it with a one nothing lead.
You talking about patients, they were very patience. They did
a good job in their own zone. Anti Castro didn't
have to do a whole lot. I do like he
was very active playing the puck behind the net, especially

(35:36):
Ohio State, just dumping the pucket every time, every time,
and tast's back there and he's got a pretty good
little wrist shot up off the glass that we haven't
gotten a chance to see all year. He had one
little play in the blue paint that he will stick
handle that a little makes you a little nervous, but
he's very confident back there playing the puck. So that
good to see that. It's obviously he's feeling pretty good
about playing like.

Speaker 3 (35:56):
That, and he's made some saves here that he had
to so I tell you during warm ups, just watching him,
you know, he was taking a lot of deep breaths,
you know, and spending time by himself bending down, you
could tell, just trying to gather his thoughts a little bit.
You know, he's twenty two years old, but Nevertheless, this
is the first experience for him in a setting like

(36:17):
this against a top ten team in the country on
the road, trying to help your team snap a four
game losing streak. After all those deep breaths, he looked
pretty composed back there, he did.

Speaker 6 (36:27):
It looked pretty good. You mentioned he played at Omaha
for a period, and plus earlier in the year, he
got a little bit of a taste. I know you
were looking up earlier. He hadn't played in a real
game since almost a year ago, last April, I think
he said it was.

Speaker 3 (36:39):
Yeah, April thirteenth of last year, the last time he
played a meaningful game.

Speaker 6 (36:43):
Yeah, that's unbelievable, and I mean, so far, so good. Again,
it's sometimes you got your team that knows what's going on.
You have a new goal. He doesn't played his first game,
and that maybe focuses you a little bit more on
some of the defensive details, thinking, well, we better make
sure we do our job tonight and not counting our goaltender.
Not that he can't be counted on, but just maybe

(37:04):
it puts your focus a little bit better to clear
out and get rebounds out of there, and you cover
your guys coming.

Speaker 3 (37:09):
Back all right, So the Badgers have a one nothing
lead after one period at Ohio State State Tune. The
American Family Insurance First Intermission report is up next.

Speaker 7 (37:17):
This is Badger Hockey from their field.

Speaker 1 (37:21):
Badger Hockey is brought to you by American Family Insurance Insure, Carefully,
Dream fearlessly, and by Alliant Energy. Alliant Energy is powering
beyond for you. It's time to drop the part for
the second period.

Speaker 3 (37:38):
By Posik and Paul kebo Bianco here at the Shottenstein
Center in Columbus, Ohio, Badgers leave the Buckeyes won nothing.
Jack Warbach from Zach Schulz Entyson Dick at seventeen to
ten of the first period, Badgers still have five seconds
to kill off on Sawyer's shoals two minute tripping minor
and the Buckeyes Adger's face off and the buck bouncing

(38:02):
around a little bit at center ice. Lynn Mark's got it.
He's able to touch it to the Ohio State blue
line in Wisconsin. Back at full strength, so the Badgers
five skaters lynn Mark, shol and Horbach, along with care
and Paaladachuck Ohio State sent it into the Wisconsin zone.
It bounced off the backboards right towards Anton Castro, who
put his mid down and covered, so the Buckeyes get

(38:24):
an offensive zone face off to our left and to
the left of Anton Castro.

Speaker 6 (38:32):
The Badgers get that penalty killed. Done. Yeah again, I
thought that was a big one with going up one
nothing the way the game has gone, gave a how
to state a chance to maybe gain some momentum. Instead,
kill it off and hopefully this continue that patient play
good defense and see where it goes.

Speaker 3 (38:47):
Sconsin's allowed only six power play goals over the last
twenty plus games, thirty eight out of forty four. That's
why the penalty kills up to eighty one percent. The
Badgers win the defensive zone, face off and rimming around
to the near side, but hustling after it burnside for
the Buckeyes before Pladachuck picked it up and heaved it
up through center ice back to get it. Hanson Buchata

(39:10):
outlet pass to burnside knocked down by the stick of
Quinn Findley. Ricochet's back to Carfania goes D to D
the head man's up near the Ohio state line, and
the Buckeyes Thompson now has it. Thompson tried to split
a pair of Badgers lost the handle collected by Fontaine.
He'll dump it in Burnside after it, but Pladachuck got
there first and Burnside hit Pladachuck up near the head.

(39:31):
Joe slow to get up. He actually reached up with
his left hand to hold onto his head. He's going
to the badger's bench and trainer Andy Roadi taking a
look at him now. The Buckeyes pick up the loose
buck in their own zone. Hanson Buchata fires off a
pass off the boards all the way down for Rossi,
no icing Castro out of his net, spun it around
to the near side, passed by Kuchen in behind the

(39:54):
intended receiver. Fitzgerald picked up though by Dick. Here's Henzler
stick handling towards the slot in the buck slot ips
toward the blue paint nable right there to stick it
to the far side wall and back out to the
neutral zone where the Badgers ben Deck Sheimer now.

Speaker 6 (40:07):
Has it, and they wonder when the first stoppage comes
if Wisconsin's going to have the officials take a look
at that one.

Speaker 3 (40:13):
Oh nice, Dick, Can'tlen move by Fitzgerald into the offensive zone,
shoots one load of the ice on the glove side
of turnus, but missed the nets and he kramed all
the way back out to neutral where Tyson Dick hustles
after it. And now a Logan Henzler tick with that assist,
now eleven points this season, eight helpers for him. After
a steal dunlap drop past slot shot by Guzo off

(40:33):
the glove of the Badger's goaltender Castro ricochet to the
far corner and now whistle and a stoppage and play
in a penalty behind the play, and it's on the
Ohio State co captain Patrick Guzo, who had a quality
shot the first real good look for the Buckeyes here
in this hockey game. Castro stopped it with his glove,
and then in the ensuing battle for the loose puck,

(40:56):
the rebound Guzo knocked down one of the Badge And
so Wisconsin's going to get a cunest power play.

Speaker 6 (41:04):
So far, no sign the batterers are going to challenge.
Anything we'll call sometimes comes or not sometimes comes from
Lugregner up watching the game, director of.

Speaker 3 (41:16):
Hockey Operations, roughing on Gouzo at two oh three. So
the Badgers get a power play twenty three percent this
season overall in the Big Ten, fifteen of sixty, that's
twenty five percent. Wisconsin wins the face off fours. He
snapped past right circle and Finley just couldn't control it.
Had to settle it down otherwise he was wide open

(41:38):
for a shot. Finley has seven power play goals out
of his nineteen. Bad play at center, dex Sheimer fumbled
the puck, Burnside pressured him. Thompson now gives Chase back
in the Wisconsin zone. Dexheimer meets him behind the net.
Finley throws his body around and Ohio State trying to
apply some pressure shorthanded. Now Wisconsin's got possession of the

(41:59):
puck and space to operate. Penn State's pedalty kills seventy
eight percent overall, just seventy three percent in league play.
And now Finley steps one off low left. It went
off the side of the nets out to the point
dex Sheimer left wing Morrissey. Finley looking for open space
on the right side. Morrissey thought about passing across. Now
dex Sheimer gets Finley the puck. Quinn without a goal

(42:21):
in his last four games plays pitch and catch with
Moseley in the right circle and now with dex Shimer
near the line, Finley surveys puts one towards the front
knock down off the stick of Johnson, retrieved by Tassy
out to the point dex Sheimer. Power play for fifty
three more seconds. Tassy skates the puck behind the net
to the left wing. Morrissey, now deck Shimer right wing.
Finley shoots one low knee saved made by turnas smit

(42:43):
prize DIY. They get free through it to open ice.
Badgers go to get it Morrissey, Moseley wheels to pass
to the right wing in Finley as to catch it
and then pull back out to the blue line. Now
to dex Shimer right dot skates to the goal line
straight away. Finley try to kick it to his stick
but didn't get enough of the puck and it goes
all the way down to the Wisconsin zone and Castro

(43:04):
paddled out to center, stolen away by Ohio State on
the move shot what Pat say made by Castro off
the shot by Ryan Gordon.

Speaker 6 (43:13):
Badgers had a few times they've been tough to handle
the puck in this power play almost cost him there.

Speaker 3 (43:18):
Yep, Fitzgerald straight away off to his right, Hansler backside left.
Tyson Dick's shot may have hit his teammate Lynn Mark
in the back. Badgers pulled the puck free Hensler right wing,
Fitzgerald's plass blocked by Carfunia, Ohio State back at full strength.
Fitzgerald able to pick up the puck and tried to
turn and fire it to the point man it went airborne,
forced Wisconsin back into its own zone. But they say

(43:39):
Hensler actually played the puck with a high stick, so
they'll drop the puck as they blow the play dead
face off coming up inside the Wisconsin zone. Still won
nothing Badgers. Early on second period here in Columbus, Ohio, I.

Speaker 6 (43:54):
Talked about I's kind of noticed sometimes that puck tonight's
looked like a ball bouncing on the ice. And then
we've seen that a couple times. On that last powerplay,
Quinn Finley a passed across and he it would look
like he's gonna have a great chance bounce it, and
he couldn't handle it. Ben dex Sheimer on the point
the second time the fuck went out, and then the
last time with the pass up the ice by the

(44:14):
goaltender Castro and yep dex Shimmer couldn't handle it and
went back the other way for a near bad chance.

Speaker 3 (44:21):
Badgers win the defensive zone, face off and dump it
in and then a wheeling batcan shot shot by the falling.

Speaker 7 (44:28):
Botterrel goes wide to the mark, picked up by Mellonbocker.

Speaker 3 (44:31):
His rising shot up over the top of the cage
and then retrieved now by Ohio State's James Hall.

Speaker 7 (44:38):
He can scoot.

Speaker 3 (44:39):
He dumps it in and pursues, but Wisconsin's Anthony Kerr
gets there, braces for a hit from Montez and spun
it around but not out back deep into the Wisconsin zone.
Henzler tries to exit the zone. He did the Mellenbacher,
who tapped a pass behind Bottrel picked off by Ohio State.
Buckeyes dump it back in now the Badgers with possession.

(44:59):
Anthony came one hundred sixtieth game for care His last
goal scored came against Ohio State in the playoffs last year.
Here's a centering pass by Ohio State at ricocheted off
a stick or two and then kind of crawled through
the low slot. Badgers took it from there Finley on
the attack. It's around one buck eye and raises a
shot into the head of Turnas and then going in

(45:21):
for the rebound was mostly Finley, though collided with the
Ohio State netminer and knocked him back into the net.
And the referee is going to take Finley for interfering
with a goldtenter. So Nicholas bet is gonna call Finley
for two minutes.

Speaker 7 (45:37):
Boy.

Speaker 3 (45:37):
He came flying into the Ohio State zone, fired a
shot that hit Turnas right in the face, and Finley
progressed to the net and just plowed right into him.
And the trainer for Ohio State, Jason Rule, has come
out to attend to Logan Turnas their gold center. And
now the referees are going into the pedalty box to

(45:58):
take a look at video re play to determine what
I'm not sure I do need to update you. Joe Polatachuck,
the Badger's sophomore defenseman, was escorted off the ice by
trainer Andy Roady just a couple of moments ago. Platachuck,
it appeared, took a hit up near the head in
this second period just a few moments ago and was

(46:22):
slow getting up and he's made his way to the
Wisconsin locker room and Andy Rody has yet to return again.
The referees looking at video replay, what of it looks
like Turnis is okay. He's up on his skates and
kind of pacing up and down the goal line. Says
something to the trainer, who returns the conversation, and I
think Turnis will stay in the hockey game. What do

(46:43):
you think they're looking at?

Speaker 6 (46:44):
I mean, Quinn Faintley definitely went in hired to the
net try. It looked like he tried to stop at
the blue paint and couldn't quite get there because he
was had such speed coming in and kind of rolled
over the goaltender. Maybe some contact of the head to
be what they probably would be looking at if you're
an official, But the irony, the ironic part would be
of what happened earlier and after review, Wisconsin.

Speaker 7 (47:06):
Penally number nineteen wow, and a game is conduct.

Speaker 3 (47:13):
Also, Quinn Finley gets a five minute major and a
game is conduct for head contact for bowling into the
Ohio State Gold Center. This has happened all season long
on both sides of the ice, and this is the
first time they call this pedally, and so Wisconsin loses

(47:34):
its most productive forward in Quinn Finley, to a five
minute major.

Speaker 7 (47:40):
Time of the penalty five to nineteen. Did not expect that.

Speaker 6 (47:50):
Usually a major is for something intentional or something dangerous.
It's hard to tell. They keep showing the overhead on
the replay and you can't really see where the contact
was made. There's no question Finley went into the goal tenery.
It was going harder than net tried to stop. It
should be a pedalover It was, no questions a penalty, yep.

(48:11):
Look at the eight was whether it's going to be
five and you're allowed to call five and not a
game of conduct which could have that would have been
more acceptable obviously, But that one's a tough one for
Wisconsin absorb. But we saw them lose Wow trailin Moseley
last Friday for a play that was pretty questionable. And
here it's Quinn Finley's turn.

Speaker 3 (48:31):
Wisconsin wins the face off on this five minute pedalty
killing clears, so Finley ejected pen stay Ohio State on
a power play for five minutes Badger's penalty killers right now. Morrissey,
along with Fitzgerald, pucked this play by Thompson speeding after it.
Fitzgerald coming in shorthanded, tied up by Carfund, you'll lose

(48:52):
puck picked up Mors. He tries to get a back
handle off turn is trying to cover inside on the
Ohio State cage and the Ohio State netminder gets a whistle.

Speaker 7 (49:02):
Boy.

Speaker 3 (49:02):
Fitzgerald just busting back, trying to get a shortthead or
Carfani Wentz tried for stride with him.

Speaker 6 (49:08):
Yeah, the puck. Fitzgerald waited. He was making sure the
puck over the blue line. As soon as it did,
he started a sprint and won the race of the puck.
Gavin Marci there to pick up the loose change, and
he almost slipped one by a little spin backhand, kind
of flicked towards a net that turned us.

Speaker 3 (49:24):
Kicked away face off Lindmark and ricocheted off his skate
to the near corner. Horback on the near side, meets
Rossi and takes the puck away from him. Now he's
trying to tap it out to center to rag it
a little bit, but the Buckeyes pick it up and
now they have possession four point fifteen to go in
the Ohio State Major Power Play Hanson Bukata to the

(49:46):
right wing.

Speaker 7 (49:46):
Rossie.

Speaker 3 (49:47):
He comes across the line and sends it right corner
to left around the near side boards. Guzo trying to
pull it free, and he pushed it back to the point.
Man McBrayer at the half boards right tapped it back
to the blue line and Hanson Bukata down low. McBrayer
outside left, Rossey straightaway. Now Hanson Bukata back right wing.
Now it's Ohio states. McBrayer low left, Rossie a little

(50:11):
shoulder fake and then he tried to throw it back
to the defenseman McBrayer and picked off by Wisconsin's Morrissey,
who sends it into the Ohio state zone, wasting more
time on the Buckeye's power play. Good job by Morrissey,
a long shift on the penalty kill for him, and
now the Buckeyes have possession three twenty nine left in
this man advantage, still won nothing Wisconsin. Thirteen minutes to go.

(50:34):
Second period. Rossie will dump it in. Dunlap picks it
up and then twirls and throws a blind pass to
the middle of the ice, intercepted by Horbach, who sends
it all the way down. Buckeyes after it Thompson met
by a shoulder check from care can't carry it into
the Wisconsin zone. Flying back to pick up a loose
puck Linmark, he sends it back Ohio State's way again,

(50:57):
wasting more time. Two minutes gone by in this five
minute major penalty to Quinn Finley.

Speaker 6 (51:03):
So far at first what would have been in minor
penalty was perfect penalty kill.

Speaker 7 (51:07):
Yep, good point.

Speaker 3 (51:09):
Here's Carfonja now Sauce is a pass down load of Fontaine,
now left wing. It goes Montese centering pass right through traffic,
top of the crease, right circle. Davis Supurn side faces
the nets now Fontaine the left handers skates to the
right corner out to the point. Carfonia back left side,
Montes straight away Carfonia rising shot Where did it go?

(51:30):
And went off something and out of play base off
to come in the Wisconsin zone to twenty nine left
in the penalty to Finley. Halfway through this five minute
pedally kill.

Speaker 6 (51:40):
The next sawyer showing that last one sliding through looking
for the shot block at the point and might have
gotten it and directed it up into the netting. Wisconsin
gets the Witchell there in a stoppage that was the
first couple seconds there the house. They had some set
up time, and here they get a big face off,
try to get the puck one and deck down the
ice where it's spending a lot of the power play.

Speaker 3 (52:02):
Joe Plata Chuck has not returned to the ice trainer
Andy Roadie back on the bedge. Mike Hastings walks over
to find out the status of the Badger's softimore defenseman,
so Wisconsin without Palada Chuck. The extra skater tonight is
a defenseman Weston Knox. But with the ejection of Quinn Finley,
the Badgers down to eleven forwards. Montes through the center

(52:23):
circle left wing pass Thompson gained the line, tried to
force a pass back to the point, went off of skate,
and then came back into the Ohio State zone two
minutes left in the buckeye'es power play. Ohio State again
twenty six percent on the power play in league play
this season, only two for fifteen in the last six games,
and the Badgers doing a nice job on this PK

(52:44):
Morrissey and Fitzgerald still centering pass paddled away by Castro
to the New York corner. Held in Montes and then
a pass to the point in Carfania good stick by Morrissey.
Carfania has an angle to the puck and chased it down.
Morrisey has to hustle back Montes across the line past Thompson,
back to Montes.

Speaker 7 (53:01):
Tried to lift it short side. Where did it go?

Speaker 3 (53:03):
It's caught up at the hear of Wisconsin events Bean
Ben Deck Sheimer up near the belt.

Speaker 6 (53:08):
It's take an laid an egg there at the puck
drop down in the corner and there is no way
near him.

Speaker 7 (53:14):
Oh, it's not Easter. It's Valentine's Day.

Speaker 6 (53:17):
Come up.

Speaker 3 (53:19):
Happy Valentine's Day to everyone out there. It's a beautiful day.
Here comes McBrayer. Powerplay continues for another minute. Five A
shot off the stick of the back pedaling shoals. Rossie
picks up the loose change, flipped it around behind the net.
There is Guzo with it now point pass to Johnson
left side. McBrayer down to the wing. He goes and Rossie.

(53:42):
Fifty seconds left on the power play. One time shot
by McBrayer missed the net off the end boards, bounces around,
centering pass off the stick of Hong and then held
in by McBrayer. B'll send it down to the right
wing and Hong taken away by Jack Horback. Horbock fans
off to his right, gets some open ice and fling
it all the way down. Half minute to go in
the Ohio State power play, one nothing Wisconsin, ten ten left.

(54:07):
In the second period, Rossi tried to do a bit
too much through center ice, turned it over. Badger's fire
it right up the middle of the ice. Dex Sheimer
got a fortunate breakoff eskate to center. Eighteen seconds to
go in the Ohio State power play, passed by Guzo
behind McBrayer, taken by deck Seimer. He sends it up
towards Shoal taken by Johnson. Red line pass dropped off

(54:29):
by Guzo, intercepted by Moseley. Four seconds to go on
the penalty, and the Wisconsin Badgers have killed off the
five minute major. Remain on top one nothing halfway through
here in Columbus.

Speaker 6 (54:40):
If the place wasn't already quiet, the Badgers would have
silenced the crowd here on the last five minute kill.

Speaker 7 (54:45):
That was outstanding, Very well done Ohio State.

Speaker 3 (54:49):
With fourteen shots on goal here tonight, many of those
coming on this last power play, long range shot by
Hanson Buchata off the stick to the corner. Simon Tazzi
gives Chase, moved it to him. Now Falan ran into traffic.
Hensler's got it. Patient turns and faces the ice surface
and up ahead the Tassi, who dives to try to
get it deep. Then he pulls up the loose pock.

(55:09):
Here he is right wing shots saved mate by Turnus
kicked it out with his right pillow and then out
to neutralize. Pop goes airborne and then scooped ahead by
god Bout down deep into the Wisconsin zone. Badger's only
eight shots on goal here tonight they're saying eight shots,
but actually it's fifteen to eight Wisconsin. The shots on

(55:30):
goal Ohio stated only a couple of shots on goals
so far in this period.

Speaker 7 (55:34):
I misread the scoreboard. My fault.

Speaker 3 (55:36):
Here's Mellenbacher across the line. Snap shot pad saved Maye
by Turnis or Cochet's behind the nets. I'm not sure
if they got a shot off on that five minute
power play now, I don't remember one. If there might
have been one from a pretty harmless area. Again, the
Badgers lead one. Nothing boy another one would be nice.
Here here's Falan knocking down Hong with a shoulder check

(55:57):
out to center.

Speaker 7 (55:58):
Weston knocks in per suit.

Speaker 3 (56:00):
Smith gets there first for the Buckeyes, but the loose
puck picked up by Tyson Dick Wisconsin on side. Tyson
throws it towards the net and it's stopped there by Turnus,
who gives it to Abel and had a breakout pass
to Montes left wing, right wing, passed out of Fontaine
off his stick, slowed by Weston Knox. Montes came flying
in and got horse collared down if you will, kind

(56:23):
of clothes line by Weston Knox. No pedalty called. We
play on shot from the left wing. Castro able to
knock it to the far corner. Now Zack Schulz tied
up by Fontaine. Davis Burnside picks up the loose puck
centering pass, goes off the body of kuchanin it out
to center. Seven and a half minutes left in the second,
still won nothing Badgers. Burnside comes across the line, pass

(56:46):
right Wang, Johnson threw it down low Fontaine off his stick,
tried to center, taken by Moseley, taken back by the
Buckeyes Johnson back pedaling blue line, pressured by Moseley. He
coughed it up to Kuchanon and now Rylan Moseley with
it little time and space at neutral ice and or
near side pass for shoals. The defenseman was exiting the

(57:07):
offensive zone and the Badgers turn it over. Centering pass
could stick by deck. Sheimer found its way to Karfania
dumps it deep in the Wisconsin zone. Seven minutes to go,
centering pass whacked out of Arm's way. Back to the
blue line. Carfanja d to d Hanson. Dukata now to
the right wing, passed back out Carfanya, his shot blocked
by Moseley. Retrieved by Carfania skates in low left tries

(57:28):
to dec out. Castro got a piece of it with
his stick. Loose puck picked up by dex Sheimer scooped
out through center. Not strongly enough for icing. Badgers will
get a change. Six point forty left in the second
still won nothing Wisconsin.

Speaker 6 (57:39):
A nice net drive Carfania going around the Badgers after
a lookout.

Speaker 3 (57:43):
Here comes doun Lap. He couldn't get an angle to
the net. Left to pass in the slot. Trailing was rassy.
He couldn't get a shot off. He put it behind
the net and that's where the Badgers take it. Anthony
Caerr flings a lead feed for Tassi. Too far, that'll
be icing go waved off. Don't buy the referees. Buckeyes
break out Rossie left wing. Oh, he got around Wisconsin's care,

(58:06):
but helping out was failing. That's what a deep partner does.
There and now when Lindmark, with open ice, skates out
of his own end left wing to Sawyer Shul couldn't
get it deep, ran into traffic. McBrayer took it away
right wing pass Dunlap, heard of the nechoes. Guzo Dunlap
with it low right, can't center. When he does, it's
too late and lind Mark, on back pressure able to

(58:27):
get underneath McBrayer to take the puckway Dick with a
partial break, he was able to cut through the slot,
got a shot off Turnis with a safe follow up
by Bottrel. His tough angled shot went right through the paint.
Buckeye skated out to center. Five and a half minutes
to go on the second still won nothing. Wisconsin. Weston
knocks with it up the middle of the ice. It's
Tyson Dickie's on side, sweeps it past left wing mellen

(58:47):
Bocker his shock goes off the post. Oh, here's a
chance for dickst up by Turner's crap. Don mellen Bucker
pushed it wide. Still won nothing, Badgers five point twenty
to go in the second. Wisconsin can't hold his own.
Buckeyes take it away up the left wing to pass
out of his reach. Backpedaling, Hensler goes d to Da
Knox zips it ahead to center, put it right on
the tape of Johnson stick. Buckeyes habit center ice. Here's

(59:10):
Ahab pass to god bout his shot off the stick.
That's up and out of play. Finally getting a whistle
and a media time out. Five oh three to go
in the second. The Badger's lead the Buckeyes one nothing.
We'll take a ten second break for station identification. Ten
seconds for a legal idea. You're listening to Wisconsin Badger Hawk,
all right, Brian and Paul here in Columbus, Wisconsin leading

(59:30):
one nothing. We'll take a one minute commercial break. This
is Badger Hockey from Mairfield.

at seven o five the Wisconsin Hockey Hour on the

(01:00:55):
Badger's Sports Network. Wisconson dumps the puck of the Ohio
state zone. There's Turner to knock it to the corner
taken by the Buckeyes and lift it out to center.
Then dex Seimer after it for the Badgers, goes d
to DD to Henzler. Tough pass to handle as that
buck went bouncing across the world, and then dex Shimer
throws it into the crowd. Accidentally tried to get it
up off the glass high and up through center, but

(01:01:17):
it went flying into the stands and it appears everybody's okay.
Four forty to go here. In the second one nothing wisconsonant.

Speaker 6 (01:01:24):
Actually gave a heck of it, played by one of
the fans that saw a hand gets stuck up on
the fast puck and at least slow it down. I
get the security people checking everyone out and making sure
they're okay, because that's definitely a quick clear there by
dex Seimer out over the glass and.

Speaker 3 (01:01:39):
With Quinn Finley's ejection for a five minute major for
pulling over the goaltender. Wisconsin has only eleven forwards at
its disposal. Face off one by Thompson Fontaine top of
the left circle. He shot one too high, Carfania out
to the point walking down the slot. Fonteine shot blocked
by the rookie Hinzler. Carfania now throws one. Where's the

(01:02:00):
net that goes off of skate maybe the stick of
Thompson and in Buckeyes get on the board. How much
Castro could do about that? That puck changed directions on
its way to.

Speaker 6 (01:02:11):
The Badger's net, had a lot of room at the point.
After that face off win by Ohio State, this couple
forwards working up high. This one Castro came out left
to make the save. He actually cut off the angle
and got out pretty high. But the I think redirection
there if Thompson in front of the net went back
against the grain and passed the goaltender, and we've got

(01:02:33):
a tie game here.

Speaker 3 (01:02:34):
The Alaska Anchorage transfer Riley Thompson his fifteenth goal of
the season. It comes at fifteen thirty six, and so
the Buckeyes pull even here lates in period number two.
Badgers dump it in shoal in after it. Bissey and
Tassie out on the ice for Wisconsin. Tassy out by

(01:02:57):
the blue light as Fhalan pinched in to try to
get to the puck. And now here's Morrissey to Tassie
passed to shoals off his stick shole trying to out
muscle Hanson Bukata, and does got the puck to Morrissey
into the offensive zone, slowed by McBrayer, Badger's pick it up.
Here's Knox now low let put it in front off

(01:03:17):
the stick of the goal center. Knox will chase it
down near side, sends it back behind the net. Sawyer's
shoal slowed a bit by Hanson Buketta. His pats to
the point didn't get through, Taken away by the Buckeyes
and Decca brink white pass. It looked like Buckeyes had
too many men on the ice in a steel Here's
wisconsin'skooking and breakaway stop by Curtis oh He tried to
step it off from the hash marks and turn A

(01:03:38):
stuffed it with his blocker.

Speaker 6 (01:03:40):
The Buckey's for the third time this period almost had
too many men. I think that kind of created the breakaway.
They were afraid to touch the pucket one point and
Pater's turned around and had Cooking in behind the knee.

Speaker 3 (01:03:51):
Kyle Cooking in with eight goals seventeen points snapped a
ten game goal is streak last Saturday with a powerplay
goal against Penn State. Buck loose near the Ohio state
line by the Badger's bench and the Buckeyes will dump
it down in under three minutes to go on the period,
puck rolls from behind the net right in front of

(01:04:12):
Wisconsin's gold mouth. No Buckeyes there. The Badgers calmly pick
it up, send it down to the Ohio state zone.
Smith bumps it off for Johnson and the Buckeyes come
ahead with it. Here's Johnson now right handed defenseman left side.
Rossy bad pass intercepted by Wisconsin's Dick lifts it ahead
of the breakaway, potentially for Horbock, hustling back Tea Wahlberg.

Speaker 7 (01:04:31):
Hornbock tees it up on the dot and fired one
too high Tyson.

Speaker 3 (01:04:35):
Dick spins out of control, puck slides free and Dunlap
now has it for the Buckeyes. He's able to nudge
it ahead into the Wisconsin zone. Falan able to get
to it first, slowed the puck, tried to move it
up along the boards, came right back to him, and
Steady reverses and goes to Zach Schulz Zac up ahead,
deflected by Horbock and it wabbles down into the Ohio

(01:04:56):
State zone and Wahlberg goes to get it. He rims
it around both teams in the midst of a change.
Little shousting going on here the Wisconsin line and the
shot by Wise well wide long now.

Speaker 7 (01:05:10):
With support from Wise on Tyson's Dickson stick.

Speaker 3 (01:05:15):
For a moment, now back below the goal line and
Zach Schulz has it met with a little hip check
by Montes Zach double team. Now two Badgers come to
help him. So the Badgers have numbers below their own
goal line and Wisconsin's Tyson Dick can't come out or
with it ansaid Buchana took it away, slides went towards
the front of the net instead, blocked by Mellenbacher Simon
Tassi trying to clear the zone. Finally Mellenacher gets the

(01:05:37):
job done. Willie May's catch by Tyson Dick at center
dropped it to the ice, couldn't dump it in Ohio
State picked up the loose pucket. Then Mellenbacher with his
steel he shouldered off the puck by Montes Ohio States
got it back with one fifteen to go in the second.
Now here's Bosley across the line for the badger's drop
past Lindmark low right looking back to Moseley, hits that
all pick right, arm safe by turnas out to the

(01:06:00):
point of fluttering shot by Weston Knox that bounced off
the goaltender into the near corner. Two good looks for
Wisconsin here trying to break the one one tigh and
then a centering pass goes Airborne turn his hands to
come out of his crouch to glove it, and then
Moseley going at it a little bit with Hanson Buchanna, No,
that's able, and then he's pulled it out of there

(01:06:20):
by one of the buck eyes James Holm and are
they gonna take them both? Wow, they're gonna take Sawyer's
shoal again. And Davis Burnside who apparently got that little
scrum going.

Speaker 6 (01:06:34):
Yeah, Bary inside got I think it was Landmark in
the front of the net from behind, and then shul
came in and protect his teammate and they both end
up in the box. That's funny, ain't hockey That first
hit what's probably gonna get called until Schuel came in
and crossed checked fairy inside after the play.

Speaker 3 (01:06:51):
Yeah, pincidental miners on the Baptor Sawyer's shoal and the
Buckey's Davis Burnside. At nineteen oh three, Mike Kystink completing
his case with referee Nick Loose bed and now Steve
Rolick has the ear of lineman Tommy.

Speaker 6 (01:07:08):
George Barnside went to the bench. I don't know if
he's getting checked out or now going to the locker room.
He is, so I assume aht of State has to
put someone in the box for that.

Speaker 3 (01:07:19):
Yeah, Burnside ten goals, twenty five points this season. He's
back in the Ohio State locker room only fifty seven points,
six seconds left in the period, and maybe because they're
skating four on four for the rest of the period,
they don't put a player in the box. Based off

(01:07:40):
to the right of Ohio State. That minor logan turnus
Badgers within a draw a deck Shimer low shot. They
went off the knee care um to the New York
corner or as he can't reach it Fitzgerald in on
the fore check force his car fun you you to
step back and move to his right, and then drops
it off for Dunlap. Shots on goal twenty one to
ten in favor of was hansome, but it's still won one.

(01:08:02):
Batres have had their chances for sure. Fuck not going
in now, Carfundia wrap around loose puck picked in maybe
or tapped in by Dunlap two to one Ohio State Carfamia,
with some serious speed came around the back of the
Badger's men and tucked it torts the paint. Castro got

(01:08:22):
a piece of at Paul and then it was there
for anybody to get.

Speaker 6 (01:08:26):
Yeah, just a speed wrap around and wrap arounds have
been tricky here today. For Castro, it seemed like early
in the game there was one that his teammates covered for.
On this one, just a wrap around off I angled
off the left pad in front deck Sheimer were there.
Looked like had Dunlop tied up. Puck was so close
to the goal line, didn't really take much to push

(01:08:47):
it over. And Ohio State gets their second goal of
the night here and last minute of the period.

Speaker 3 (01:08:53):
Like you said, only eleven shots. Music nineteen twenty nine.
Good time of the goal for Damian Carfanya and it's
two to one Ohio State and actually bigger part Joe Dunlap,
the alternate captain, gets the goal. Carfanya his second primary
assist McBrayer with the other helper two goals in the

(01:09:15):
final four and a half minutes for Ohio State.

Speaker 7 (01:09:19):
And the Buckeyes with the lead. See what Wisconsin can answer.

Speaker 3 (01:09:26):
The Padres had been in this position so many times
this season with a game on the line, late second period,
going into the third long range shot by Shoals and
it thinks off the end boards and then snagged off
the wall by Turnus and al Horbach takes a pop
right into his mid section on a cross check by

(01:09:49):
Ryan Gordon. I don't think we'll see any penalties from it.
That was odd Shoals straight away, Paul. He fired that
shot too high and it went off the glass and
ricochet back towards the Ohio State a goal mouth, and
that's where Turnas read the play and took it off
the wall. And boy, it would have been a nice
play if you had to relay to the shortstop to
make sure the runner didn't it dance to third.

Speaker 6 (01:10:11):
We mentioned it earlier the game. The glass here and
by this amboni which is right behind that net that
Ohio State's defending right now, there's some crazy bounces that
come off that area, and that was another one of them.

Speaker 3 (01:10:23):
Based off the turnas's right Lynn Mark Gouzo. The puck
caroms to the near corner two seconds to go on
the period, and that will do it. For the second period.
It's lind Mark got a shot off just as the
horn sounds. So Badgers with twenty two shots on goal,
but it potted one buck. Guys have had only twelve
shots on goal. They've scored twice. Ohio State with a

(01:10:45):
two to one lead on Wisconsin after two periods of play.

Speaker 3 (01:12:02):
Oh Wisconsin ATA one nothing lead after one period of
play on Jack Horback's second goal of the season, and
it stayed that way even after Twin Finley was kicked
out of the game for a five minute major for
head contact with a goal setter. Questionable call while there
was contact for sure, he went right into him and
bowled him over, maybe a five minute major, but he

(01:12:22):
was also kicked out of the game. A game is
conduct still, Wisconsin able to kill off that five minute
Ohio State power play somehow, though, the Buckeyes gained momentum
from the fact that Wisconsin killed off their power play,
and eventually they would score twice. Riley Thompson on a
nice driving play by Damian Carfana, tied it up at

(01:12:45):
fifteen thirty six for Thompson, his fifteen goal of the
goal of the year. Fontaine got an assist to get
to thirty points this season one to one, and then
Carfania again on the attack. The defenseman took it around
behind the net, tried to wrap it around. Droll got
a piece of it, but it wobbled in the blue
paint and Dunlap beat deck Sheimer to the puck and

(01:13:05):
tapped it in. Joe Dunlap gets the goal that's his
fourth of this season from Carfagnia and McBrayer that at
nineteen twenty nine, two to one. After two Buckeyes had
only six shots on goal twelve for the game. Castro
stopped ten of those twelve. Badgers had fourteen shots on
goal in that period. Turn has stopped them all. He

(01:13:26):
has denied the Badgers on twenty two of twenty three
shots Wisconsin oh for one. On the power play, the
Buckeyes have had seven minutes of power play hockey oh
for two. Once again, it's a tight game going to
the third. Disappointing end of that second period of play. Yeah,
I mean that was such a great penalty killed by
the Badgers. You mentioned that the five minute major kill.

(01:13:47):
That is an outstanding job.

Speaker 6 (01:13:48):
I either zero or one shots on goal for Ohio
STATEA and we don't have the official stats with us
right and it looked like things were good. But after
that Ohio State played better when it got back to
five on five and took a while, but they just
a deflection in front and a rebound right in the slot.
So a couple of goals that just puck around the net.
Again there you take those chances, wrap around chance and

(01:14:12):
a point shot, no big deal, but they ended up
in the back of the net for Wisconsin. And now
two to one, two to one like the first two games,
or two to one heading into the third here or
Ohio State very comfortable with those leads over over time,
and so Wisconsin will have to really just continue what
they're doing and try to find the net again.

Speaker 3 (01:14:29):
Find a way to put the puck behind Logan turnus.
By the way, dunlaps go ahead goal at nineteen twenty nine,
the twenty fourth time this season the Badgers have given
up a goal in the final two minutes of a period.

the Steam Center in Columbus, wisconsentrails Ohio State two to one.
As we start the third period, Batchers, we'll skate to
our left here in the third again if you joined
us late. Quinn Finley ejected in the second period after
running into the goaltender. The referees ruled head contact worthy

(01:15:30):
of a five minute major and the game is conduct
So one of the nation's leading scorers didn't play the
final fifteen minutes sixteen minutes of the second period and
won't be here in the third. Buck guys have the
puck and they'll fire it all the way down. Actually
the goaltender Castro duck down. It hit him back behind
the net and they charge herd of the cage as
Fontaine came from behind the net, wrapped it around and

(01:15:53):
on the far side was Montes, flying left wing boy.
He was open too, got his stick on the up
and it actually shot off the far post, and then
he knocked the goal off its moorings. That was quite
a play, a set play off the face off, it
seems paul Is Carfania started it with a two hundred
foot pass from one goal line to the other.

Speaker 6 (01:16:15):
Again. They scored their last goal basically on a wrap
around play. This one similar kind of thing.

Speaker 3 (01:16:24):
Fontane came off to the left of Castro and put
it back right to Montes who had a chance to finish.

Speaker 7 (01:16:30):
Here's Carfaanja. Now back to Montes.

Speaker 3 (01:16:33):
Boy, he's a good looking playmaking defenseman Damien Carfana, the
junior from Woodridge, New Jersey, steal by Moseley in the
defensive zone, PopEd it out to center in Carfania, we'll
go to get it. Started his career at New Hampshire
six goals, sixteen points as a freshman, transferred to Ohio State,
had only six points as as sophomore, but as a

(01:16:54):
junior he's got twenty one. Here's James Hong, the former
Madison Cap, backside left wide open. The defenseman Smith joining
the play. Castro came out to cut him off. He
never got a shut off Castro five feet outside his crease.
He also got in the way of Montes on a
loose puck, preventing him from shooting the puck. Now, Tyson
Dick shoots one low stick sat made by Turnas and

(01:17:16):
then he snacks it out of mid air and hangs
on for a face off. Boy aggressive play by the
Badger's goaltender and Tom Castro twice denying Ohio State a
chance to shoot the puck in tight.

Speaker 6 (01:17:30):
He's definitely not played tennant tonight. He's been aggressive all
over the ice around his goal, going back to play
pucks and there pays off.

Speaker 3 (01:17:39):
Face off to the right of turnas Fitzgerald, Kuchan and
Dick with care and knocks at the blue line. Fitzgerald
pushed it towards a net, turn Us out of his net,
rims it around to the far side, Coucanon applying pressure
there on Fontaine, Tyson, Dick trying to pull it free. Instead,
Kuchanan came out of there, cut off by McBrier, Thompson
took the puck. McBrier tied up Tyson, Dick loose buck

(01:18:01):
out near the high slot and mccaren's free. And here's
burnside left wing cutting in on Knock shoots one good
Waffler's safe made by Castro. As Burnside changed directions, they
fire a pass to the point enable down to the
goal line. Fontaine open turns in stores Anthony Kerr pleading
with a referee. Castro too gutter wolf. Fontaine lights the

(01:18:23):
lamp of three to one. Buckeyes leave, but I'm not
sure what Care and Castro were cleaning about.

Speaker 6 (01:18:32):
Oh, there's a buck eye down in the screez behind Castro.
The whole time he was laying down there. You know,
it gets back and gets set up, but it takes
energy to get off the off the buck guy that's
sitting there laying down on the blue paint, and he
finally gets set up, but are you really set up
and ready to go? You can use some energy to
get back up and kind of distracted your play.

Speaker 7 (01:18:56):
And now.

Speaker 3 (01:18:58):
Anton Castro has been for Tommy Scarfhony, although the referees
are going to take a look at video replay to
see if Castro was interfered with that. If he was,
would Mike put Castro back in goal After having Scarfhony
come off the bench. Tommy now loosening up in the crease,
stretching out a little bit, so the time of the

(01:19:20):
goal if it stands one for Gunner Wolf Fontaine.

Speaker 6 (01:19:27):
If nothing else, it serves as an extended timeout for Wisconsin,
depending on how long the review takes.

Speaker 3 (01:19:32):
Right Fontaine from Abel and burnside again at one forty
A tough start to the third period, to say the
leavest for the Wisconsin Badgers, who've lost four in a row.
They've been out scored twelve to two in the third
period during those four games. Keep in mind, for of

(01:19:53):
those twelve goals were empty netters.

Speaker 6 (01:19:55):
Nevertheless, and the last third period of Batters one was
their last regular win against Michigan.

Speaker 7 (01:20:02):
Yep, back the call center that was a month ago.

Speaker 3 (01:20:08):
When I get in the referees Nicholas Bet and Jake
Ricuke looking at video replay, Hey again join us On
Wednesday night, February nineteenth, a live edition of the Wisconsin
Hockey Hour at Fucking Honey's in Monona starts at seven
o five. Owen Lindmark and Casey O'Brien will be there
the Badgers captain. There's an outdoor rink there. They'll be skating,

(01:20:30):
so bring your skates and come skate with the Badgers
and also meet Mike Ca Stings and Mark Johnson. The
live radio show Wednesday Night, February nineteenth, Next Wednesday, at
bucking' Honey's in Monona, seven o'clock on the Badger's Sports
Network at the Varsity Network app. Now, Tommy's Carfoni has
made his way back to the Badger's bench and Anton

(01:20:50):
Castro is back in between the pipes, actually pacing from
far corner to near corner, taking a few shots of
his water bottle as we wait for the red to
come out of the penalty box to tell if the
good goal.

Speaker 12 (01:21:02):
Or not.

Speaker 3 (01:21:06):
No goalie interference. According to the referees, the goal will
stand Fontaine from Abel and burnside at one forty. So
I know Castro went over to the bench after that
goal was scored to talk to Nate LaPoint, the equipment managers.
So they put Scarfoni in between the pipes. But apparently
Castro's gear is all good and he's right back in there.

(01:21:28):
But the Badger's now down a pair three to one.

Speaker 7 (01:21:31):
They trailed.

Speaker 6 (01:21:32):
Yeah, I mean, if you would look at that play,
it's you don't like how it developed, But there's no
way they're going to overturn that with the goaltender able
to get back up and be clear of the play,
and whoever it was down in the blue had his
legs tied around one of the Badger d it looked
like as it made it difficult to get kind of recover,
and then Castro is kind of in the pile and
he got out with a second or two to spare

(01:21:54):
before the shot, maybe even three seconds before the shot came.
So it was unlikely they're going to overturn that, but
it's kind of unfortunate too.

Speaker 3 (01:22:01):
Yep, face off to the left of turnus after Ohio
State just iced it. Shoals holds the zone right wing
Botterrel can't get a shot off and picked up by
Ohio State Rink. Wide dune lap with speed cut off
by Faling, sweeps it in front anyway, a sliding pad
save made by Castro on the ricochet puckets still loosen
the paint before Castro covers, and then the lookout. One

(01:22:25):
of the Buckeyes pushed over another who was down on
his belly. He fell head over heels. And now Failing
and Guzo mixing it up a little bit, and I
think the referee, Nicholas Bett's gonna take Failing and Guzo again,
and that's what they will do. Badger's down three to one,

(01:22:47):
and I look across to my right where Luke Buss
and Adam Piedla are sitting a couple of Badger freshmen
making some notes for their squad. And there's Quinn Finley
who was ejected, and Joe Polatachuk, the softmore defenseman, sitting

(01:23:07):
up here too.

Speaker 7 (01:23:08):
He got.

Speaker 3 (01:23:10):
Knocked into the corner in the second period and left
and did not return. And now Handtok Castro is going
back to the net. Actually he's headed to the Badger's
locker room and Tommy Scarfoni is going to take over
in goal, so Castro may be done for the night.

Speaker 7 (01:23:30):
What is going on?

Speaker 6 (01:23:33):
Oh, he saw him go to the bench during that
review and it looked like there was going to be
a change made and ended up going back into the
Now he goes to the locker room by himself. Andy
Roady on the bench still, so I would assume he's
done now.

Speaker 7 (01:23:49):
I would think so.

Speaker 3 (01:23:51):
So he leaves two ten into the third, and so
Tommy Scarfoni has come in for the Badgers in goal,
Wisconsin trailing three to one. Wisconsin Steel behind the net
Shawl in tight stop by turnis deck Seimer with FOURK
checking pressure beat a couple of Buckeyes to the puck

(01:24:11):
and he centered it and Shol was trailing so tight
to the net though he had no room really to
get a good shot off, but he forced Turners.

Speaker 6 (01:24:19):
To make a move and stop it, and he got
kind of made some contact with Turnus when he first
got the puck, he was so close in his right
leg hit the left pad of the goal tenner and
I think that put him on a little bit off
balance and thinking of back to Castro, you know he
went to the bench after that collision in the Yeah, Creasey,
and you wonder if something happened when that collision happened.

Speaker 3 (01:24:39):
Sisconsin winds the offensive zone face off. Hanseler long range
shot knocked down loose Punk and getting a piece of it.
Mosley put it on goal, but it wasn't moving very quickly,
and Turner saw it all the way and covered seventeen
twenty two to go in the third. The Badger's trailing
three to one to Ohio State series finale Tomorrow night,
seven thirty face off. It's on the Big ten on Network,

(01:25:00):
of course, also on the Badger Sports Network in the
Varsity Network app with pre game coverage at seven o'clock.
So Wisconsin minus two skaters because of injuries here Tonight
won an injury, won an ejection, and now minus the
starting goal center Tonight Anton Castro, who's left with an injury,
replaced by Scarfoni. Off the draw, Texheimer's rising shot stop

(01:25:23):
by Turnus. Buckeyes pick up the loose Bucks skated to center,
burnside across the line defended by Henzler protects the puck
as he turns his back to the nets. Out high
Carfagnia to the slot. Here's Hansen. Buchata sends it back
to Carfonia, cuts down the right wing wall cycles for Thompson.
He'll try to carry it to the nets. Low By
Mosley pushed him to the end boards. Now Rylan off balance,

(01:25:46):
wrap around at By Thompson stopped by Scarfoni, who covers
one o two left of the coincidental minors to Wisconsin's
Falin and Ohio states Guzo.

Speaker 6 (01:26:02):
Thompson. He's you can see it on that play. How
big he is? Yeah, just a wide body tall. The
great job there Island Moseley. He's in some inside leverage
to keep him outside the net for the most part.

Speaker 19 (01:26:16):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (01:26:16):
Thompson six four two fifteen to get a transfer from
Alaska Anchorage where last year he had nine goals and
twenty four points for the Independent Sea Wolves, and now
playing Big ten hockey and doing well. Buckey's won the
face off, long range shot miss the net, but they
hold at the right point in Gordon down below the
goal line. Schul's able to beat Wise to the puck
and the Badger's breakout four back with a nice pass

(01:26:38):
to care right wing cross the line. Fitzgerald stick candling
slowed by Gordon. Puck came off his stick, but Christian
able to track it down. Christian high slot backhand, turns
to his forehead, no place to shoot as he's being
dogged by the defenseman McBrier. Now deck Sheimer's skating right
wing shot blocked down in front by Johnson. Turns to
his right and finds an open man and that is

(01:27:00):
his teammate mcbraer. He skates up to the Badger's line,
passed for Gordon, too far for him. It's back into
the Wisconsin zone. Dex Sheimer giving Chase Horbach there to
help his teammate out. Then Gordon in on the Ford
check and an ice passed by dex Sheimer fighting Henzler
up the middle of the ice to Kuchenen. Four ten
into the third period, three one Ohio State now whistling. Wisconsin.

(01:27:22):
Apparently ice the puck or was it? I didn't see
where I thought it may have iced it because he
didn't get the game the red line, but it deflected
out of play and they'll drop it at center ice.

Speaker 6 (01:27:31):
Apparently that last play, Gordon lost a stick behind the
Badger goal. Yeah, and so he was behind the play
and some unexpected to. I think Ben Duck shimmer in
the corner, but he handled that rather nicely as you mentioned,
and made a nice play to get the puck out.

Speaker 7 (01:27:46):
Face off at center.

Speaker 3 (01:27:47):
Mellenbaker finds Botterrel on the attack, his shot blocked and
went back behind the nets. Bottol able to chase it down,
keep it alive from Mellenbacher left wing, now cycling with
Simon Tassi, Botterrel, Mellenbacher the fourth line originally on Mike
Hasting's line chart. Carfania takes it for Ohio State, Bukata

(01:28:08):
Hanson Bukatta threw it up to center and it rolls
back Wisconsin's way and Zack Schulz goes to get it
for the Badgers. Lead Theme finds its way to Botterrel
dumped it in, but Wahlberg cuts him off and took
the puck away now to Smith. His pass got through traffic.
Dunlap on the attack staff funn off blocker saved made
by Scarfoni high into the air. Fonteine with it, thought

(01:28:29):
about shooting, then elected not to, and then Carrie able
to poke the puck out to center, trying to chase
it down. Fontaine cut him off buck guys have it
back bad passed by Smith, almost stolen away by botterrel
for a potential break, and now they finally get it
out to center. All over five minutes gone by and
the third Badgers down three to one. Weston Knox now

(01:28:52):
up to center. Carroa just got away with a slash,
maybe as he knocked the stick of Burnside out of
his hands. Davis wanted to kind of lead that the
referee didn't call it. And now Scarfoni will move it
far side to Lenmark, pressured by burns Side, able to
jam the puck free, dex Sheimer comes to get it.

(01:29:12):
He'll skate ahead right near the scorer's table. Tried to
dump it in, went off a partition on the glass,
never got deep. Buckey's hong with it, and he coughed
it up to dex Szeimer and now Phalan will whip
it in. Fourteen minutes to go on the third, Badgers
need a pair to tie Wisconsin. Hada won nothing lead
in the first after Jack Horbak's goal with about two

(01:29:34):
minutes to go on the period, and the Buckeye scored
twice late in the second and once early in the third.

Speaker 7 (01:29:39):
Looking for more in on the.

Speaker 3 (01:29:41):
Attack, comes Montes to ham far side. Here's a shot
by Wise miss the net. Scarfoni well out of his
net to cut down the angle. Aggressive play by Scarfoni.
Montes to the point. Long ring shot got through say
by Scarphoni. Rebound attempt on the backhand kicked a side
by Tommy to the far corner. Now Hong with it
till the point. Arfania his shot miss the natus. Scarfoni

(01:30:02):
went left to right. Wisconsin struggling hemmed in a little bit.
Now deck Szeimer lobs it out to center to relieve
the pressure. In thirteen twenty to go in the third,
it's three to one Ohio State.

Speaker 6 (01:30:14):
We've seen third periods not be successful lately for Wisconsin.
They're seeming to be hemming back here a little bit
of the state is playing simple yep. Badgers can't get
the puck down in offensive end for a while. Here
Felan slowed to the blue line.

Speaker 3 (01:30:29):
Badgers cough it up and now at Chantsford deck hut,
but he's defended well by Mellenbacher. Forced to turn over
and the Badgers now have it. Mellen Bacher on a
tap pass from Kuchanin and right wing stops dow and
looks try to cycle down low for kukan In. Instead,
Johnson able to get to the puck first, and Brent Johnson,

(01:30:49):
the defenseman, twirls back and hands off to William Smith
and the Buckeye's eleventh in the country and goals against
a two point three per game lead the Big Ten
Conference games two point four goals allowed per contest.

Speaker 7 (01:31:03):
Who can in long range? Eezy say by turnus.

Speaker 3 (01:31:06):
And now we've got a little scrum going on here
between Linn Mark and Gordon, and the stick of Linn
Mark is caught up in the face mask of Gordon
actually underneath the bubble, not the cage that's somewhere, but
the face shield of Gordon and the stick. The blade
went up into the side and up by his face.

(01:31:27):
Gordon wanted a penalty on Linn Mark. Lind Mark just
wants a.

Speaker 7 (01:31:30):
Stick back.

Speaker 6 (01:31:33):
For a second there. I wasn't sure that was going
to come out, but the lines have been doing the
omens work, lulling it out.

Speaker 7 (01:31:41):
Like Sword in the Stone right very much though. Now
the King.

Speaker 3 (01:31:48):
Oh and Linn Mark playing in career game number one
sixty seven, closing in on one seventy. Only eleven players
in school history, off the top of my head, reached
one hundred and seventy games. Played quite an accomplishment to
wear that sweater that many times. Robb and Drinking the
school record with one hundred and seventy nine. Gary Schutchuck

(01:32:10):
had one hundred and seventy seven. There's a Shop on
the Point by Hensler off a stick and kind of
lobbed its way or floated its way to the goaltender
and turned a stood up and just grabbed it. And
another face off to come in the Ohio State's own
three to one buck guys twelve seventeen.

Speaker 7 (01:32:26):
To go here in the third.

Speaker 6 (01:32:29):
A couple of recent guys like Josh s and Crock
Coffee that won seventy two, and Bench Street was somewhat recent,
but a lot of this because of COVID in extra
years for people.

Speaker 3 (01:32:38):
Sure rob and drinking Gary Schutchuck had won. They just
were good teams that played deep into March.

Speaker 6 (01:32:45):
And those schedules were a little bit broader.

Speaker 7 (01:32:47):
Yes, they were.

Speaker 3 (01:32:48):
Face off one by the Badger shot by Hensler didn't
get through. It's loose pokee free by lin Mark tried
to tap it out to Hensler but didn't get anything
on it.

Speaker 7 (01:32:57):
Now Rossi for.

Speaker 3 (01:32:57):
Ohio State knocked down by Linn Mark who tries to
get to Guzo before he can get to the puck.
No luck there and it's out through center ice. Under
twelve minutes to go, Badgers down a pair. Logan Henzler,
likely a first round draft pick in the NHL draft
coming up this year. Up ahead to task. He now
to Dexzheimer and he'll fire it in, winds around to

(01:33:19):
the left wing corner and then sent back by Carfania farside.
That's where Rossi goes to get it. Moves it to
Thompson left wing.

Speaker 7 (01:33:27):
Dunlap.

Speaker 3 (01:33:27):
He's spinning around trying to locate the puck in his skates,
throws it out to Thompson right wing, settles it down
Riley Thompson off the boards, pass slot Dunlap shot save made.
Scarfoni came out on top of the paint, sliding on
his knees, corraled the puck to his shoulder with his
glove hand and a face off to come to the
left of the Badgers goaltender with eleven twenty five to

(01:33:49):
go on the third against three to one Buckeyes.

Speaker 6 (01:33:52):
I could play there by Thompson again for Ohio State,
kind of got away along the sideboys point to the
DoD Druth and Badgers and found him open space. His teammate,
but like he says, Scarfoni came way out tack the
shooter and made it pretty easy save.

Speaker 7 (01:34:07):
Badgers have the puck. Poor Bock sends it right wing.

Speaker 3 (01:34:10):
Fitzgerald able to control it now double teamed and got
knocked down in a penalty called on the Buckeyes for holding.
Wisconsin will get a Cuna's power play with eleven twelve
to go in the third, Fitzgerald trying to move with
two Buckeyes right on him, eventually basically got pulled down
by TiO Wahlberg, So Wisconsin gets that cuni's power play.

Speaker 7 (01:34:32):
Get one here, you're down one.

Speaker 6 (01:34:36):
I think one guy had him, the Malberg or Wahlberg
who got called for it, had a little bit of
a back or reached out to grab him, and his
teammate came through and got a skating So it's kind
of a double team. One of them or the other
the damage probably the other, but they called Wahlberg and
doesn't matter. Badgers will take this opportunity to try to

(01:34:56):
get cut the lead in half.

Speaker 7 (01:34:58):
Moors.

Speaker 3 (01:34:58):
He's out there, Mosley, Tassie, Fitzgerald and dex Sheimer again.
Finley sitting in the stands now after being ejected in
the second period for head contact with a goalie. Here's
dex Sheimer, blue line, left wing. Morrissey walks the wall
down to the goal line back out. Dex Seimer looks
to shoot, ad does too high. Fitzgerald keeps it alive

(01:35:19):
in the attacking zone around of the left wing in
Morrissey got it the blue line in dex Seimer burnside
out on the penalty kill.

Speaker 7 (01:35:25):
Now here's Fitzgerald.

Speaker 3 (01:35:26):
He whistles one towards the net miner and stop by
turn us no rebound to be had one thirty seven
to go on the power play. Badger's down three to one,
ten forty nine to go.

Speaker 6 (01:35:36):
Here in the third, and that passed across to Fitzgerald
a little stick handle probably more than he needed to,
gets a goal tender a chance to get across and
makes what looks like a pretty routine save on a
shot from that side by the dot it get a
chance to set up I just go to their second
unit now face off to.

Speaker 3 (01:35:57):
The left of Logan Turnus linn Mark with Kuchen and
Botterrel Dick and Hensler the point man. Lind Mark won
the face off, Hensler with it left side. Now Botterrel
Ryan down to the goal line and now twists back
into the left corner. Now at the dot, shoots one
try to go short side at ricochet to the corner.

(01:36:19):
Hensler able to hold, found lind Mark looking right wing Tyson.
Dick moves to the dot. Now lind Mark nice catch
in the high slot, but from behind Pope free by Dunlap.

Speaker 7 (01:36:28):
He and Hensler the other way.

Speaker 3 (01:36:30):
Dunlap and Hensler engaged and the two go into the cage,
knocking it off its pegs. Fans wanted a penalty as
Hensler shoved Dunlap after the whistle. I don't think there's
going to be any penalties from that. The good hustled
by the freshman to slow down the graduate student Joe
Dunlap face off in the Wisconsin zone. Badger's trailing here

(01:36:52):
three to one.

Speaker 6 (01:36:55):
Yeah, tig play like Hensler, use his speed, get cut
off the angle. Kind of drove dunlop or at least
caught the angle enough to put him into the goal
and then gave him a little shove after which I
think is what Dudlop didn't like, even though it really
was nothing.

Speaker 3 (01:37:09):
Yeah, right, they saw the scarfon He's right Lynn Mark
against Bryan Gordon fordon a couple of goals at Notre
Dame last Friday and that five to one win. Who's
had a nice sophomore season. There's a fourth line center
for Steve Rollicks squad Badgers won the draw. Here comes

(01:37:31):
botterrel at the red line. Power play continues for another
sixty seconds. Ticing Dick tries to get to the puck
in the far corner. Instead, the Buckeyes got their first
Hanson Bukata finds space and sends it all the way
down all right, Hensler again with Fitzgerald, Tassy, Morrissey and Moseley.

(01:37:53):
Hansler up the middle of the ice. Wanted to drop
it back now He sends it rink wide behind Fitzgerald.
He has to go get it and then saws to
cross to deck Seimer left wing pass. Morrissey gains the zone,
trying to get it deep instead of the pass intended
for Morrissey back at the left point was deflected all
the way down to the Wisconsin zone and Scarfoni will

(01:38:15):
just move it behind the net for Morrissey and Gavin
will come ahead with it. Gavin was born in nearby Dayton.
His parents are here tonight. Judy and Kevin saw them
prior to the game, and Judy pulls out her telephone
and well, here's a nice pass by Morrissey setting up
mostly stopped by Turnus who protected the far post dex Sheimer.
Morrissey back to dex Sheimer straight away, then towards Morrissey

(01:38:38):
redirect can't get through. Blocked out of the box comes Wahlberg,
break away for the defense. Ben the big fellow stops
and had the fuck pops office stick by Scarfoni. Wahlberg
got deep, didn't know what to do with the thing.
Scarfhony PopEd it away. Padri's unable to convert that power
play still down two with eight fifty to go. Here

(01:38:59):
in the third period of and now Here comes Horbach
on the attack, but Carfania gets into the way and carries.

Speaker 7 (01:39:04):
Him to the corner and they both go down hard.

Speaker 3 (01:39:08):
And now Fontaine from behind Meleenbacher tried to pick his pocket.
No luck Fontaine will dump it in get to that
story about his mom. Judy pulls out a picture oh
near steel to the right of Scarfhoni poked out of
Harm's way by Shoals. He came here for Buckeye's hockey
camps and she's got a picture of him with his

(01:39:28):
mask on and when he was five years old.

Speaker 7 (01:39:31):
It was really cute.

Speaker 6 (01:39:32):
Actually, well, thank you to how to state for the
first time, I think I've ever said that in my life.
Because he's a heck of a player.

Speaker 7 (01:39:39):
Yes he is.

Speaker 3 (01:39:40):
Here's Montees got around Shoals but lost the puck. Melenbacher,
after it deep in the Wisconsin zone, goes to get
it now with Fhalan Hongs stole it away, knocked off
the stick of Horbock once twice. Falan pitched it to
the nearest side. Hanson Bukata tracked it down long range
steps out by McBrayer, went wide to the mark to

(01:40:01):
the near corner, point past to McBrayer, cycles back to
the corner.

Speaker 7 (01:40:05):
Hong lost it to Shoals.

Speaker 3 (01:40:08):
Zach Headman's to Botteril He'll skate out of the defensive zone,
tries to get the red line and get it deep
couldn't do it, and the Buckeyes now have possession three
to one. Ohio State with the lead. Wisconsin led one
nothing after mcwarback with his second goal of the year,
but two goals in the final four and a half
minutes of the second put the Buckeyes on top, and

(01:40:29):
then a goal early here in the third from Gunner
Wolf Fontaine, then Anton Castro, the starting goaltender left to
go to the locker room, replaced by Tommy Scarfoni. The
loose buck picked up by Weston Knox near the Badger's line,
gets it off the Linn. Mark eludes Gordon, dumps and chases,

(01:40:52):
then Mark with a defenseman, Smith trying to kick it
free behind the Ohio State nets, still trying to kick
it free. Tassy there, buck slides to the far corner.
A lot of snow out there on the ice here tonight,
and now it's Johnson reversing for Smith, and the Buckeyes
look to break out and they will or will they? No,

(01:41:14):
they're changing and now Smith back behind his net. Fitzgerald,
Moseley and Tassi out there pass by Smith well out
of the reach of Guzo up to center. Mosley ends
off Fitzgerald off to his right. He goes, lost the handle,
regained possession, dumped it behind the net, out of the
reach of Tassy and slur pinching in on the left

(01:41:36):
wing wall, and then the Buckeye is able to get
it out to center.

Speaker 7 (01:41:41):
Six oh five to go. Here in the third, Badger's
down three to one.

Speaker 3 (01:41:46):
Kuknin across the line looking right wing as past a
flex out to center. Who can had almost lost at
the bern side. Felon had it and then he lost
it and the Buckeyes have it again. File State trying
to get to nineteen wins and put pressure on Minnesota
maybe to get to second place in the Big Ten.
Anders trying to stay in fifth, but need two to tie,

(01:42:11):
just two to tome three to win. Puck through neutral
Ice knocks back to get it down. Failing with it,
he mishandled loose puck picked up by Thompson burnside left point.
Hanson Bouchata banks it off the end boards towards the net.
Scarfoni can't cover a wrap around by Thompson. He got
it on goals Scarfhoni made the stop. They love those

(01:42:32):
wrap around shots. Yeah, they have not had a shortage
of them look tricky on Castro. They ended up with
a goal off for Redon on one of those. And
here again that was from a long distance wrap around, all.

Speaker 7 (01:42:44):
Balanced shot by Morris.

Speaker 3 (01:42:45):
He deflected and now a bit of a scrum to
the right of the Ohio state net miner and cooler
heads will prevail. We'll take a break. With five oh
three to go in the third Ohio state, despite being
out shot thirty four to twenty, he leads Wisconsin three
to one. This is pager hockey from Learfield.

Speaker 3 (01:44:51):
Well right, Fitzgerald quick shot stop by Turnus. He's got
knocked back into his cage. One of the Badgers in
the crease at being Simon Tassy. He's back on his skates.
Have the puck in the offensive zone. Down three one,
four forty five to go. Warris sat down the wall
left wing, put it behind the net, Now to Moseley.
Fitzgerald passed slot Linmark point, dex Seimer left side. Morrisse

(01:45:13):
no place to shoot. Dech Sheimer right wing. Fitzgerald. He
turns and fires, miss the nett at the endports Mosley
tried to drop it in with a backhand tonight by Turnas,
who's without his stick. Now bouncing puck held in by
dex Sheimer. Keaves it to the corner. Fitzgerald protecting tied
up by Hanson Buchata. There's Tassy. He pulls it free
behind the net. Moseley still behind the net. Tassy just

(01:45:35):
got hammered to the ice. Moseley to the point. Dex
Sheimer extra attacker for the Badgers. Four ten to go
in the third, down two, Moseley runs down the puck
in the far corner. Pass to Fitzgerald. Now to the
points and dex Sheimer Moseley now right wing go line,
Fitzgerald back to dex Sheimer. They're trying to spread them out.
Low shot goes off the skate, carrms to the near wall.

(01:45:57):
Morrisseat tried to feed lynn Mark in the way Thompson
he tries to knife at three. Buck picked up lynn
Mark low shot good stick by Carfona, but Gerald Howes
has it. Three forty to go on the game, Badger's
down two. Morrisey backpedaling, back pedaling, Slot finds deck. Sheimer's
shot blocked by the captain. Guzoh retrieves it, flings it
all the way down. He'll miss the open net, the

(01:46:19):
empty net, icing cold on Ohio State. Three point thirty
one to go in the third, Badgers with an extra
attacker down a pair.

Speaker 6 (01:46:27):

As you win the faceofved extra attacker needing two to
tie shop I Hinchler off a stick went behind the
d KHU can and trying to pull it free, battling
two buck guys on him behind the cage. It goes
to the corner Wisconsin near Wall trying to hold the
zone Horblock shoals Pensler thank flinging all the way down
again and missed the empty net. Montes though we'll get

(01:48:10):
to the puck in the Wisconsin zone before Hensler wasting
a little bit of time, but now the Badgers have
possession of its again. Down to three minutes to play.
Extra attacker for Wisconsin. Couchanon rupped up near the Ohio
State bench and then Wisconsin's horblock lost an edge and
fell on his keyster Buck guys pick up the puck.
Montes wiped out by kuchenen Buck guys pick up a

(01:48:33):
loose puck and set it down again, but missing the
empty net by several feet. Icing on Osu they saw
back in the Ohio state zone to forty one to
go here at the third.

Speaker 6 (01:48:44):
Was actually a big play with Montese to get down
there first. The case the icing instead of the puck
coming on a back you mentioned killed some time, probably
killed twenty thirty seconds by the back of time. Badgers
got the pack the puck back up the ice.

Speaker 7 (01:48:57):
They saw up to the left of turnus. Lynn Mark
again with a draw.

Speaker 3 (01:49:01):
Better than sixty percent this season, going lynn Mark to
the face off circle and about to go at it
with Max Montes and the Buckeyes win the draw but
can't clear. Morrissey will hold it left point. Morrisey down
the boards, got tripped up by dun left. No penalty call,

(01:49:21):
he lost the puck. Did the Badgers get it back?
Dex Sheimer nice hole, Fitzgerald right wing looking, no place
to shoot, no place to pass, stick handling, Now he'll shoot,
It's blocked. Bricochet to the corner to fifteen left. In
the third, Badger's down three to one. Wisconsin's Morrissey to
the goal line. Moseley back behind the nets, right corner,

(01:49:42):
Fitzgerald out to deck Szheimer off to his right. Fitzgerald
again left handed forward looking Lynn Mark wants in the
slot instead of centering pass down lower off his stick.
Morrissey able to control one fifty five to go in
the third, Fitzgerald rister on goal turn to save me
and a stoppage and play going fifty one left. A

(01:50:05):
little pushing and shutting afterwards between Tassy and Fitzgerald among others,
but face.

Speaker 7 (01:50:12):
Off in the Buckeye's zone coming up.

Speaker 6 (01:50:15):
It's a third street chef for Ohio State players. Just
going to this to their bench leaning over. Baggers had
such good possession time, puck possession and tiring out the Buckeyes,
but they haven't been able to get it inside the
defense and working on the outside most of the right
there christinoit cheriald a couple of times and they've had
nothing to do with it.

Speaker 3 (01:50:37):
Face off free deflected out to center. Badgers go to
get it. With one forty five left of the third,
there's Logan Henzler up the middle of the ice. We'll
fire it in around to the left corner, Kakuchan and
beat Carfania to the puck. No Horbak roughs up Hans
in Bucata that frees the biscuit. The Badgers Tyson Dick

(01:50:59):
centering pass off with Buckeye or two and then cleared
out to center, leaping to knock the puck down before
it may have gone into the empty net. Was bodily
played it with a high stick and the Badgers picked
it up and whistle stops play. With one twenty four
to go in the third, Scarfhoni will come off the
bench to go back between the pipes.

Speaker 6 (01:51:20):
Badgers have basically been run in two different shifts. Here
right to get there. Quote top one out there and
lend Mark's been one, replacing Quinn Finley on this line,
just taking the face offs mainly, and I've been staying
out there.

Speaker 7 (01:51:38):
Based off of Scarfhon He's right.

Speaker 3 (01:51:40):
Lynn Mark to his knee, won the draw from Guzo
and the Badger's habit and the Buckeyes fall back. Pencler
red line, blue line got around a pair of Buckeyes
skates low left cut off by Thompson. There's Lynn Mark
for support to free the puck. Bosley after it. Tassi applies,
hitting the corner. Buckeyes have it, then turn it over Badgers. Morrissey,

(01:52:02):
trying to handle the bouncing puck, does and holds the zone.
Sixty seconds to go in the game. Mostly nice pass Morrissey,
beautiful move in the slot. His shot though off of stick.
Dex Sheimer with it left wing. Now Morrissey back to
dex Sheimer on his backhand. Now turns and faces the net.
Morrissey now hash Mark's left dex Sheimer no place to shoot.
Morrissey low left, went short side, missed the nets or

(01:52:25):
maybe Turnus got a piece of it.

Speaker 7 (01:52:27):
Badgers keep it alive.

Speaker 3 (01:52:28):
Thirty six seconds to go in the third extra attacker
for Wisconsin down two, Morrissey top of the left ring,
go line. Moseley back to Morrissey twenty seven seconds left,
shot blocked by Thompson. Burnside tried to tap it out
to center, unable to do so. Second try gets the
job done now Linn Mark at the blue line. Double

(01:52:48):
team got to pass off Moseley slot pass tass He
never reached him diving for it. Nice play, Thompson, It's
going to angle its way into the open net in
Ohio State is going to win the opener that extend
Wisconsin's losing straight to five empty net goal for Riley
Thompson with nine point one left on the claw.

Speaker 6 (01:53:10):
All the Badgers did a heck of a job. They
had their goalie pulled for the last basically five minutes
of this game, controlled the play, controlled the offensive zone.
They just couldn't really work it. They tried a couple
of times to getting inside, it didn't really work out
so well. A couple of icings throughout this time for
Ohio State kept the Badgers going and just couldn't really

(01:53:33):
get a good shot.

Speaker 3 (01:53:33):
Off fifty That goal for Thompson at nineteen fifty one.
That's won the face off and that's it. Wisconsin had
the lead after one, but gave up four unanswered and
lose for the fifth straight game for to one the
final score. American Family Insurance is the official insurance partner

Speaker 3 (01:59:20):
Palt Paul Kappelbianco, Brian Posik Here in Columbus tonight. The
Badgers had thirty eight shots on goal Ohio State had
only twenty one. Wisconsin also won thirty two of fifty
one face offfs Tonight had fourteen block shots compared to
Ohio States nine, and did very well on the penalty
kill two for two, killing off of five minute major

(01:59:41):
after Quinn Finley was ejected for head contact against the goaltender.
The problem is Wisconsin scored only one goal on thirty
eight shots on goal and fall to Ohio State by
the final of four to one. That's five straight losses
for Wisconsin and in that span only five goals a
bigger pardon six goals and a five game stretch while

(02:00:03):
allowing twenty one, five of them empty netters. It's just
been a tough stretch, to say the least. Ball and
I know it's frustrating for the young men in Cardinal
and White. And then in the process you lose your
best player to a questionable ejection, you lose a defenseman
to an injury, and you're starting goaltender has to leave.

Speaker 7 (02:00:23):
Too because of an injury.

Speaker 3 (02:00:25):
It was, you know, I'm not sure what Saturday is
going to bring, but Friday, even though it's Valentine's Day,
it just wasn't much fun.

Speaker 6 (02:00:34):
It wasn't. But you do look at this game and
you probably go back and reflect how many chances that
Badgers gave up. There was not a lot. It was
a pretty nothing first period. Badgers outshot Ohio State, they
got a lead, and then if there was a turning point,
it was a call on quin Finley. The Badgers did
an unbelievable job killing that major power play, but you
lost your top scorer and you're having trouble scoring. And

(02:00:56):
then the Ohio State played better after they did after
the got killed and found a way to just get
a deflection in the net. They scored again right before
the period ended on just a wrap around that was
pretty nothing and kind of the loose puck there. Badgers
couldn't clear it, and unfortunately, and then even the third
goal start the third period, just if you're Ohio State,
you went hard to the net, you got took care

(02:01:18):
of the goaltender. Looks like maybe you injured the goaltender
on the play, not saying that they did anything on purpose.
There was some traffic there in the collision contact. Badgers
had looked for the review, but Castro had time to
get back into place. But by then I think it
was Fonteine or whoever it was that scored had a
pretty open chance because the Badger had a couple of
our d still stuck in the blue paint. That's three

(02:01:39):
one and there's your game. And obviously the Badgers made
an attempt to try to get back pull a goalie
five minutes after or so and couldn't get really a
good chance off of that. And while State gets a
diving long shot to put a puck in the empty
net again.

Speaker 3 (02:01:52):
Yeah, yeah, so again it's the he hal thing, you know,
if it weren't for bad luck type stuff, but it
you know again, you got to put the puck away.
Let's get to our three stars of the game, brought
to you by ever Light Solder, Save Money, Save the Planet.

Speaker 7 (02:02:06):
Start with Everlight Solder.

Speaker 6 (02:02:07):
Third start of the game, Ohio State's Damien Carfanya from
the blue line set up where had the primary assistant
in the first two. He had the original shot from
the point that got deflected and had the wrap around
that rebounded to the far shide and where where Joe
Dunlop was there to poking home to make it a
two to one Ohio State lead, and they didn't look back.

(02:02:30):
Number two started giving it to Jack Horbach for the
batteries he got. I think he got the Badger's goal.
He made the play that got the goal, and then
he was part of that penalty killed at the heck
of a job killing off that major. He was out
there a lot and they did an unbelievable job with
getting the pucks down and giving him the number two star,
number one star. Riley Thompson had a couple of goals,

(02:02:51):
got the first one for Ohio State to get the
game tied again. The last one the empty netter, but
it goes down as a goal in your Cali sheet
and he gets two for the night, and I'm the
fair star.

Speaker 7 (02:03:00):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (02:03:01):
Four shots on goal plus three for Thompson. Carfanja also
plus three and a tip of the cap to Logan
Turnus who allowed one goal and that was it, stopping
thirty seven shots. He has allowed only four goals in
his last four starts as the Buckeyes again improved in
nineteen eight and two by knocking off the Badgers four

Jack Horbach taking a ristshot from the shot from just
inside the blue line, and it was on the rush.
Tyson Dick made this first play and hustled his button
down to the ice or down to the other end,
got in the way of the goaltender's eyes, maybe even

(02:06:57):
deflected it. Not sure hit something in front. But the
Badger's got a one goal lead after the first period
and things that were looking pretty good or I played
a pretty good first period, but it just didn't continue
the rest of the way.

Speaker 3 (02:07:08):
Yeah, unfortunately, the Badgers fall here tonight four to one.
But every weekend series has a second game and that's
tomorrow night, and hopefully the Badgers can find a way
to snap this skit here a.

Speaker 6 (02:07:18):
Little bit that sounds like a great idea. I mean again,
we talked about coach staying not too far off. There
wasn't much given up tonight. Badgers just need to find
a way to score again. The Badger's only twenty one
shots on goal allowed, but fall four to one. My

It's a new initiative to help fight crimes like money laundering, fraud,

Speaker 3 (02:09:50):
Assistant coach Nick Oliver kind it up to join us
here in the postgame show after Wisconsin's four to one
loss here at Ohio State, and nick Y Boy was
all kinds of things happen here tonight. You lose one
of the nation's best scores to a questionable call, a
five minute major contact with a goaltender. You lose a defenseman,
Joe Polatachuck to an injury. You're starting goaltender Anton Castro

(02:10:15):
and his collegiate debut was actually pretty good, and then
he had to leave early in the third with an injury,
and unfortunately some similar themes though, the puck's not going
to the back of the net, and that's why you're
on the short end here overall. I mean, you look
at you out shot him thirty eight twenty one, Nick,
And it's that's kind of a theme too. You're out
shooting your opponents, You're not giving up a lot of

(02:10:35):
quality chances. It's kind of the same old, same old.

Speaker 7 (02:10:38):
Right now, isn't it?

Speaker 4 (02:10:39):
Yeah, I think that's the you know what. I think
that's the part that you know, staff players, everyone involved
with it. You look at it and you just say, hey,
we just got to continue to push through this right
and get better because the effort was there tonight, The
execution at times was there tonight. It just felt like

(02:10:59):
there were little moments within the game right, some within
our control, some without, you know, outside of our control
that turned that thing a little bit. And you know,
it was good to get on the board first. And
then as the game went, like I said, it was
a series I felt of small moments where we need
to continue to handle handle some things at a better pace.

Speaker 7 (02:11:19):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (02:11:19):
Well, I'll tell you when when Finley was kicked out,
your penalty kill was outstanding, and I thought that that
might be a positive turning point. I mean, here, wait
a minute, you're kicking him out for that, and all right,
let's kill it off, and I thought it would carry through.

Speaker 7 (02:11:33):
Did you feel the same way? No question.

Speaker 4 (02:11:35):
It was a big point in the game, up one
nothing at that time, and I thought the penalty killers
and Anton did a great job getting through that five
minute major, which isn't easy against a good power play
and then after that the game was wide open. I
don't think there was a whistle for the next three
or four minutes after the kill, so we were able
to get a whistle and reset, you know, and then
they they get one at our net front and you know,

(02:11:57):
off of a block shot originally, and they score with
about four and a half minutes to go on the
second and then obviously with about thirty seconds ago on
the second, So within that, you know, like I said,
that small little window there, they get a couple and
you know, unfortunately both are right around our paint.

Speaker 3 (02:12:11):
Yeah, it seemed like they were trying to find any
way to get shots through. There were not a lot
of shooting lanes for Ohio State. So credit to your guys.
If you keep playing that way, hopefully better things happen
for you. Right.

Speaker 4 (02:12:23):
Yeah, And that's the piece I think we need to
continue to stay with is being hard to play against defensively,
because I think it's started as soon as you start
to press or cheat for too much offense and you're
gonna start giving up more the other way. So we
need to continue to find that balance and play with
that balance of defending well in front of our net
and then we need to keep continue to look at

(02:12:44):
ways to generate more and I think that's that's the
obvious piece right now. But I think back to the
game again, it wasn't a lack of quality, you know.
I'm just thinking three probably situations where you'd afforded alone
on a goalie and weren't able to finish, and sometimes
they're just not going your way. But we just got
to stay with that. Yeah, and one more for you

(02:13:04):
too again. Anton Castro making his collegiate debut tonight and
just watching him in warm ups, he looked good, but boy,
he was taking a lot of deep breaths. You know,
you remember your first collegiate game right here. Well here
he's on the road playing a top ten team. I'm
sure the butterflies were flying within him. What did you
think he did or how do you think he played
here tonight? Yeah, he thought he had a good demeanor
to him. I thought he had a good look to him.

(02:13:25):
I thought he had a good way about him, you know.
Unfortunate for him he wasn't able to finish that game
in his first start. But up until you know, the
point where he had to exit the game, I thought
he made some nice saves and I thought he gave
us a chance.

Speaker 3 (02:13:37):
Yeah, and that's all he can ask for a goaltender, right,
So all right, Nick, you got a second game tomorrow.
Good luck tomorrow. Thanks for coming up. Thanks Paul Sure.
That's Nick Oliver, assistant coach, joining us here on the
postgame show. Badgers fall to Ohio State four to one.

Fack hear in Columbus, Wisconsin and Ohio State series opener.
We'll get to some highlights here in just a moment
or so. Want to get to some final scores or
some scores from around the country. And why don't we
start with Hockey East. As I'm looking through some of
the scores we have here, as I jot a couple

(02:16:17):
of things down quickly, I just want to make sure
that I don't miss anything.

Speaker 7 (02:16:22):
Now we got it. Here we go.

Speaker 3 (02:16:24):
Actually, we're going to start with non conference plays. Alaska
Anchorage lost to Long Island tonight by the final score
of six to one, and Alaska and Lindenwood tied at
one late second period out by Saint Louis in the NCHC.
Let's go there. End of two periods in Duluth, umd
And Arizona State are tied at two. How about the

(02:16:45):
Sun Devils ranked tenth in the country, thirteenth in the
pair wise. They very well could make the NCAA tournament.
That would be pretty impressive. Western Michigan and Omaha tied
at four. That's in over ten. I'm right now the
Mavericks and battling trying to get in the hunt for

(02:17:07):
an NCAA tournament bid. Most likely would have to win
that conference tournament. Western Michigan ranked third in the country.
But it's a four to four game Denver in North
Dakota scoreless midway through the first period. In Denver, the
Pioneers ranked sixth in the country. Notack's got some work
to do too. Colorado College one nothing lead at home
over Miami. That's in the first period of play out

(02:17:29):
to Hockey East now in Massachusetts, knocked off top ranked
Boston College three to two. Big win for the minute Men,
who are a top twelve team in the pairwise rankings.
Also Providence a six to three win over Boston University
that after BU beat BC in the bean Pot Championship.
Bean Pot Championship game on Monday, northeasterno two nothing shut

(02:17:53):
out of UMass loll Tonight. Vermont doubled up Merrimack four
to two in Maine and New Hampshire are tied with
about thirty seconds left in overtime. Ecaceyale of five to
four overtime win over Colgate. Quinnipiac outscored Union seven to two.
Harvard beat up on Saint Lawrence six to two, RPI
a four to one win over Princeton, Clarkson down Dartmouth

(02:18:16):
four to one. Cornell is sixty to one victory over Brown.
Also in the CCHA, Augustana has a three to one
lead on Michigan Tech with a period to play. Ferris
State beat Lake Superior State in overtime, three to two.
Atlantic Hockey Rit three American International Nothing Army a one
nothing lead at air Force, Bentley beat Kenisius in overtime

(02:18:39):
four to three, Robert Morris a four to three overtime
victory over Niagara, Holy Cross over Mercyhurst seven to three,
And in the Big Ten tonight, Penn State beat Notre
Dame five to three. Dane Dowiak scored twice for the
Nitney Lions, who were seven to one and two in
their last ten games, and Michigan knocked off Minnesota in

(02:19:00):
overtime three to two. Ethan Edwards the game winner for
the twelfth ranked Wolverines, who knocked off the fourth ranked Gophers,
and with Wisconsin's loss here to Ohio State, the Big
Ten standings look like this idled Michigan State in first
place with forty three points, Minnesota in second with thirty nine,
Ohio State and third only two points behind the second

(02:19:22):
place Gophers. Michigan is in fourth place with thirty points,
Wisconsin in fifth place with twenty four, Penn State only
a point behind the Badgers for fifth. So the Nitney
Allions with twenty three Notre Dame will finish in last place,
but Wisconsin is in danger of falling into sixth place

(02:19:43):
in the Big Ten, and that would mean a first
round matchup either with Minnesota or Ohio State in the
first round of the conference tournament. Here, the Badgers came
to Columbus, a place they've struggled in the past. In fact,
they had lost six straight games in this building, only
two wins in the last sixteen at the Shottenstein Center,
facing an Ohio State team that's played very well under

(02:20:04):
longtime head coach Steve Rolick, logan turnus and goal for
the Buckeyes and Tom Castro, the freshman making his collegiate
debut for the Badgers, and here are the calls of
the game. Scholz Headman's to Jack Horback playing it is
one hundred collegiate collegiate game is long range shock got
through Jack Horback hitting the century market games played berries

(02:20:28):
one from long range, his first goal in thirteen games.
The Badgers on the board first in Columbus Carfania now
froze one towards the net that goes off of State.
Maybe the stick of Thompson and Ann Buckeyes get on
the board. Fuck now going in now Carfonia wrap around
loose puck kicked him maybe or tapped in by Dunlap.

(02:20:51):
Two to one, Ohio State down of the goal line.
Fonteine open turns and stores. Anthony Kerr pleading with a
repe castro two gunner Wolf Fontaine lights the lamp of
three to one Buckeyes lead. Now Linn Mark at the
blue line. Double team got a pass off Mooseley slot

(02:21:12):
pass tass He never reached him diving for it.

Speaker 7 (02:21:15):
Nice play Thompson.

Speaker 3 (02:21:16):
It's going to hangle its way into the open net
in Ohio State is gonna win.

Speaker 7 (02:21:21):
The opener, and the final score was four to one. Again.

Speaker 3 (02:21:25):
The Badgers got on the board first Jack Horbacha's second
goal of the season from Zach Schulz and Tyson Dick
at seventeen to ten of the first period. The Badgers
outshot the Buckeyes nine to six in the first and
fourteen to six in the second period, but Ohio State
scored twice in the latter part of the second. Riley
Thompson is fifteenth of the year from Damian Carfanya and
Gunner Wolf Fontaine made it one to one at fifteen

(02:21:47):
thirty six. At nineteen twenty eight, Joe Dunlap tapped in
that wrap around from Carfanya mcbraer with an assist as well.
Dunlap's fourth goal of the year. Ohio State had a
two to one lead after two, and then Gunner Willl
Fontaine made it a three to one game at one
forty period number three, assisted by Chris Abel and Davis Burnside.

(02:22:09):
The goal was reviewed for potential goaltender interference. That call
was overturned or the challenge was overturned. It was a
good goal for fontaine is thirteenth of the year that
made it three to one at that point. Shortly thereafter,
Anton Castro left and replaced by Tommy Scarfoni. Badgers empty
their net for an extra attacker down two with five

(02:22:30):
minutes left, could not get the puck through against Logan Turnus.
When they did, Turnis stopped it and then Riley Thompson
gets the empty net goal. They gave an assist to
Aiden Hansen Buketta at nineteen fifty one and the final
score four to one. Again shots on goal thirty eight
to twenty one in favor of Wisconsin. Badgers had five

(02:22:50):
penalties for twenty one minutes. That five minute major on
Quinn Finley added to that total. Buckeyes had four penalties
for eight Both teams were zero for two on the
power play. Badge block fourteen shots compared to Ohio State's nine.
Wisconsin also won thirty two of fifty one faceoffs Owen
Lindmark fourteen of nineteen in the faceoff circle, but the
Badgers captain was minus three tonight. Individually for Ohio State,

(02:23:15):
Thompson with the two goals he was plus three Carfagnja
two assists. He was plus three Fontein with a goal
and two points here tonight, and Logan Turnas stop thirty
seven to thirty eight shots, he got the win for
turnas his record improves to eight five and one Ohio
State now nineteen eight and two twelve six and one

(02:23:37):
in the Big Ten. Individually for the Badgers, Jack Horbach
the lone goal, Tyson Dick and zag Shulz had the assists. Otherwise,
the Badgers couldn't muster much offense at all. Quinn Finley,
before being ejected, managed only two shots on goal. Joe
Pallatachuck left with an injury as well. Christian Fitzgerald led
the Badgers as well as Ryland Moseley with five shots

(02:23:59):
on goal, but Moseley was minus two tonight, so was
his linemate Gavin Morrissey. Meanwhile, Tommy Scarfoni stopped all six
shots he faced in thirteen minutes of release, and Tom Castro,
in his collegiate debut forty two minutes ten seconds, gave
up three goals on fourteen shots. He took the loss,
his record oh to one. The Badger's fall to eleven

(02:24:21):
seventeen and three six fourteen and one in league play. Again,
the Buckeyes a four to one win. Wisconsin's lost seven
in a row in this building and five in a
row overall. They'll try to snap both losing streaks. Tomorrow night,
face off at seven thirty Central pregame at seven o'clock
on the Badger Sports Network of the Varsity Network app.
