thank you for the pre game show. Paula favorite Balm
Brown will be alongside b The Badgers weren't actually last
weekend against the Gophers of Minnesota for the WCCHA Chamionship.
Speaker 5 (01:08):
Let's recap that game. In a matchup that Major NATO
had been the preview.
Speaker 4 (01:12):
The next round of the WCCHA playoff, the Bachers and
their biggest rivals, the Gophers, clashed into the loop to
the side of the WACHA postseason champion. The game was
as even as you can get statistically and otherwise. The
Badgers had thirty four shops on goal, and so did
the Gophers. The Badgers scored their first goal in the
tenth mind of the first period, and so did the Gophers.
Wisconsin's first talent came off the stick of conta Casey
(01:33):
O'Brien with an assist on the two on one break
for junior Kirsten Simms at nine twelve in the first period,
But just twenty seconds later in Minnesota, Sali Franco scored
on an assist from Audrey Webbington to tie.
Speaker 2 (01:43):
Things up at once.
Speaker 4 (01:44):
Laid into the first Josephine Bovan got the Gophers a
second notch with assists from Abbie Murphy and Chloe Primerano
to conclude the first period with Minnesota.
Speaker 5 (01:51):
On top to the one but less than full of

the second period, Judian Jungles fired one went from the top.

Speaker 5 (02:03):

Speaker 4 (02:05):
The Badgers then regained the lead banks to the efforts
of freshman center Maggie scandal and I do.
Speaker 5 (02:09):
Mean efforts all alone.
Speaker 2 (02:10):
Of the blue line.
Speaker 4 (02:11):
Scannal fought her way through not one but two Minnesota
defenders and scored with assists from fellow freshman Emma Venusio
as well as Kati Kotlowski to make it three to
two Wisconsin. However, one area where Wisconsin fell short of
Minnesota was penalties, with Minnesota taking only one while the
Badgers took three. The Gophers made Wisconsin pay at nineteen
oh seven to the second as a Lacey Eden body
checking miner was converted into a power play goal by
(02:33):
Mattelie Milankovo with an assist from Ella Hubert, leading action
into the third to start even again, this time at
three apiece. In a physical high speed fight that went
right down to the very end. Both teams had chances,
but neither could find a way to score through almost
the entire third period. Then, with the championship on the line,
the Badgers created the opportunity they need it and took
full advantage. With Wisconsin on the attack, Lacey Eden fired
(02:56):
a shot pass from off hid a blue eye that
went wide to the goal.
Speaker 5 (02:59):
Of the left side.
Speaker 4 (03:00):
A charging Casey O'Brien sent a no look, one touch back.
Hamdard passed between the lakes of a Minnesota defender and
straight into the slot where Sarah Wisnovis was crashing toward
the neck.
Speaker 5 (03:10):

that like three finalists had come from one team, after
Minnesota accomplished SECTED in twenty thirteen. But before awards a
(03:53):
Trookeys could be handed out and celebrated, the Badgers need
to win tonight against the clarks and Golden Knights.
Speaker 5 (03:58):
Clarkson made the semi five of the ECAC Tournament.
Speaker 4 (04:01):
And are led by their two captains and a couple
of outstanding defenders, senior Haley Winn, who has one hundred
and thirty points in her career, and Grant student Nicole Goslin,
with an incredibly one hundred and forty seven points in
her career. Their stinty defense was on display two days
ago here at Lebon when they defeated Boston University three
to one to advanced to this game, scoring two quick
goals in the first sixpence of play. The Golden Knights
(04:22):
outshot the Terriers thirty to eighteen over the course of
the game, despite him have a goal late for third
after Boston and called their goowalie for the extra attacker.
Speaker 5 (04:30):
Clarkson rally had ported the empty nnor to seal.
Speaker 2 (04:32):
The wing and punched their tickets.
Speaker 4 (04:34):
At the night's quarterfinal game, they're facing the best team
at college hockey this season, with the number.
Speaker 5 (04:38):
One Badgers having only one boss and two sides to bash.
Speaker 4 (04:41):
Their otherwise sterling record.
Speaker 5 (04:43):
But when you get into the playoffs.
Speaker 2 (04:45):
You never know what will.
Speaker 4 (04:45):
Happen, and Wisconsin will need to bring all their might
to bear if they want to send the Golden Knights
home and book their passage to the Frozen Four in
Minneapolis next week.
Speaker 5 (04:53):
We've got an interview with WCA coach Leer, Mark Johnson
and Moore coming up for.
Speaker 4 (04:57):
You on the pregame show stick tuned to Wisconsin Danger
Win Hockey Here on ANTM seventy the game presented by
Good Things the Diamond Store of Madison.
Speaker 3 (05:08):
Back on the pregame show, Paul Brown with v Johnson
and the Wisconsin Badgers taking on Clarkson here today. The
segment is brought to you by a Gape Ranch. That's
the ranch. It's owned by Leslie and Mark. Quickly, we
want to promote the golf outing next summer.
Speaker 6 (05:24):
That's you know, first Monday in June and anybody's invited.
It's a lot of fun, a lot of different activities
throughout the day.
Speaker 7 (05:32):
And yeah, the more people in Mary.
Speaker 6 (05:34):
Last year we sold it out, had almost one hundred
and sixty golfers, had a great time and look forward
to the opportunity again first Monday in June.
Speaker 2 (05:41):
And that's for the proceeds going to the ranch.
Speaker 7 (05:43):
Yep. Everything that is raised that day will go right
directly to the ranch. YEP.
Speaker 2 (05:47):
Let's talk about the game, because that's the big thing.
Speaker 3 (05:49):
But first before the game, Mark three Patty Kasmeyer finalists.
It's only happened twice in the history of the league.
Twenty eight years ago Gophers went forty one to zero
and they had three. It's an amazing feat and well
deserved on this part.
Speaker 2 (06:05):
It really is.
Speaker 6 (06:06):
I mean, you know the history of women's hockey, you know,
we have a lot of years behind us, and for
only to happen one other time is remarkable that, you know,
the three young ladies that are part of it.
Speaker 7 (06:18):
But they all earned it.
Speaker 6 (06:19):
I mean, they had great seasons, they complimented one another.
You know, Kk's put together three unbelievable years that she's
been here. Case is put together five great years, and
Leila keeps getting better and better.
Speaker 7 (06:31):
This is the third year and the best year she's had.
Speaker 6 (06:33):
So they certainly deserve that honor to be recognized not
only by the people within our league, but throughout the country.
Speaker 7 (06:40):
That's a reflection of how good a year they had.
Speaker 3 (06:42):
And you mentioned, if I'm right about this, you were
quoted as saying, oh, Brian, by far, maybe the best
player in the country this year.
Speaker 7 (06:48):
I've said that a couple of times.
Speaker 6 (06:49):
I mean, you know, I thought last year, you know,
at the end she was, you know, our best player
obviously on our team.
Speaker 7 (06:56):
It's certainly the best player in the country.
Speaker 6 (06:58):
And again, you know, she's put up numbers that I
never thought we'd ever talk about.
Speaker 7 (07:02):
But yeah, so she's played well, and you know she's
she's our go to person.
Speaker 6 (07:08):
I mean, when we need something, she's generally there to
make something happen, whether she's putting in a goal or
setting up a play. And you know, obviously, you know
the league as well as anybody. Our league's not any
means easy to play against. I mean every night, it's competitive,
it's hard. There are a lot of good players in
the league. And for her to have the kind of
season she said, I mean, it's it's fantastic.
Speaker 2 (07:28):
Mark.
Speaker 3 (07:28):
You've been in this position many many times. You win
here today and you're on to the Frozen four. You
talk about keeping things in perspective, and if you look
at this week in terms of practice and things like that,
how's the week gone.
Speaker 7 (07:44):
That's gone good. I mean the nice part.
Speaker 6 (07:46):
The weather outside has been really great, So that usually
puts smiles on a lot of people's faces, not only
within the rink, but you know, I'm driving around campus
to come and leave the rink, and you know, see
a lot of kids out in shorts and t shirts
running around and so springs in the air and that
usually excites people.
Speaker 7 (08:04):
So our practice has be good. We don't do it.
We don't change much. It's like groundhog Day.
Speaker 6 (08:09):
You know, you've got your Monday or Tuesdays, your Wednesdays.
The only difference this week is that we played Friday
or Saturday, and now was on Friday. So generally we
have that during the regular season, we take Wednesday off,
so we practice Monday, Tuesday, then Thursday Friday and get
ready for a two o'clock afternoon game.
Speaker 2 (08:26):
Can you also talk about no outside noise in that thing?
How do you do that?
Speaker 6 (08:32):
Well, that's the hardest part because everybody's going to be
you know, unique, and everybody's going to be different.
Speaker 7 (08:36):
Everybody gets ready for games in their own unique way.
Speaker 6 (08:40):
And so what are those habits we've created over the
course of you know, I've been there a year, two years,
three years, I've played in these type of games. What
do I need to do to make sure when I
step on the ice that that's the only really thing
I'm thinking about.
Speaker 7 (08:51):
Is what I need to do on the ice.
Speaker 6 (08:54):
And if you can get into that space, and you know,
it's easy to talk about, it's hard to do because
there are a lot of distraction.
Speaker 7 (09:01):
People have family coming in.
Speaker 6 (09:03):
The plays is going to be packed, the weather's changing,
it's nice outside, so a lot of stuff going on.
But as I've said before in the past, you know,
this is probably the hardest game because you're in the
end the NCAA tournament.
Speaker 7 (09:13):
You're not at the Frozen four.
Speaker 6 (09:15):
So everybody's got a chance if they win the day
to go to the frozen four and that's what we're
looking forward to.
Speaker 2 (09:19):
What you see overall evaluation of Clarkson ah Good.
Speaker 6 (09:23):
I mean, they've got a couple of veteran defensemen that
one leads their team in scoring and win. Very good
player plays on the national team. It was the MVP
of their league. And as a defenseman that's hard to do.
And so and they have enough upfront that you know,
they cause damage and they're very structured and Matt's been.
Speaker 7 (09:41):
That way for a long time.
Speaker 6 (09:42):
It does a great job at defending blocking shots, and
you know, in most of the games they have a
chance to win. They're not going to win them all,
but he gives them a chance to win with those
different types of things defensively, no different than Duluth, no
different than some of the teams Saint.
Speaker 7 (09:55):
Cloud that we play against.
Speaker 6 (09:57):
So it's you know, who can you know, go out
play up to their capabilities as a team and do
it for sixty minutes.
Speaker 7 (10:03):
That's probably the team that's going to win today.
Speaker 3 (10:05):
He was very complimentary of your team and he said,
in terms of our team, we can't afford to take
one shift off.
Speaker 2 (10:12):
And I tell you what he goes if we do,
Uh he was very very strong in his opinions that
Wisconsin's a great club. Yeah.
Speaker 6 (10:19):
I mean you look at the numbers and you know
the players that are on the score sheet or not
on the score shoet or on the lineup sheet, and
you know, if I'm playing.
Speaker 7 (10:27):
Against us, it's like whoa. Yeah, you know, we got
to be in tune.
Speaker 6 (10:30):
We got to pay attention every you know, every face off,
every situation, every shift.
Speaker 7 (10:36):
And if you do that, then you know you might
have a chance.
Speaker 6 (10:38):
But I'm more concerned about, you know, what we're doing
and what we're capable of doing, and if we can
play at a high level similar to what we did
last week, and you know, then you have a chance
to win. And you know, if you take your foot
off the gas pedal or you make some mistakes that
you normally don't make, then you know, you run the
risk of giving up goals and maybe not winning the game.
Speaker 2 (10:56):
It's a great experience.
Speaker 3 (10:58):
As a young gal named Holly Ruber, who's the will
tender for Clarkson from Stevens Point, Wisconsin and went to
Duluth and transferred to Clarkson, can you imagine what it
much feel like for her to be playing in an
NCAA game here at Lebon.
Speaker 7 (11:14):
Right in her backyard.
Speaker 6 (11:15):
So again you talk about outside noise, there's a lot
outside noise. I'm sure she's got a lot of family
and friends and people that have traveled down to watch
her play. And she's had a very good season. So
you know, it's a different environment. The place is going
to be packed, there's going to be a lot of
energy in the building. And again, as elite athletes and
as good athletes, can you handle that moment?
Speaker 7 (11:35):
So today we'll see that one final one.
Speaker 3 (11:37):
Do you expect them to be physical with you? In
other words, if you were looking at how do you
beat the Badgers, what would it be?
Speaker 2 (11:42):
What would we have done? Well? If you and I
were talking after the game.
Speaker 6 (11:46):
Well, yeah, they play a physical game. They'll follow through
on you know their four check. You know, in front
of the nets, they're going to be you know, firm
and you know protect their area. But again, you know,
if we're moving the puck, we're.
Speaker 7 (11:58):
Moving our feet.
Speaker 6 (11:59):
That's challenging, it's diffault to do. If you're not doing that,
then you can give them an opportunity. I mean, twenty one,
their big defense. When she's physical she's strong, as I
mentioned earlier, wins, a good defenseman. You know, she was
an MVP of their league, plays a physical game. So yeah,
I mean it's it's like, Okay, we're playing Saint Cloud
or you know, we're playing Ohio State, or we're playing
(12:20):
you know, somebody in our league. It just has different
numbers and different names on the jerseys. And you know, again,
it's about us in this time of the year.
Speaker 7 (12:27):
It's about you.
Speaker 6 (12:28):
And my biggest thing in these games is can we
play up to our capability? And if we do that,
you know, then I'm going to be satisfied. I don't
know if we're going to win or not, but that
gives us the best chance.
Speaker 2 (12:37):
All the best to you, coach, right, thank you.
Speaker 7 (12:39):
Yep, got to go.
Speaker 1 (12:46):
This seven time NC double A champion Wisconsin Women's Hockey
is on the air and.
Speaker 3 (12:51):
Wisconsin scores on the power play the game speed.
Speaker 2 (12:55):
Going down the left wing. It just keeps driving to
that bangle right.
Speaker 3 (12:59):
Up and in.
Speaker 1 (13:00):
Now with the call of the game, here's the Hall
of Famer Paul Brawn on ten seventy the game.
Speaker 3 (13:08):
Good afternoon, and welcome to Labon Arena on the campus
of the University of Wisconsin in Madison, along with zach.
Speaker 2 (13:15):
Cey Loff and Mark Greenhall.
Speaker 3 (13:18):
I'm Paul Brown set to bring you this NCAA game
between the Wisconsin Badgers, who are thirty five one and
two and the Golden Knights of Clarkson. They come in
with a record of twenty five twelve and two. Greeney,
it's an afternoon where we look forward to good competition.
(13:40):
And they're a pretty good hockey club.
Speaker 2 (13:42):
Yes they are. It's it's always kind of familiar to
see them this time of year.
Speaker 8 (13:47):
They usually surface in the NCAA Tournament and they've had
pretty good success in the past.
Speaker 2 (13:52):
Well coached by mad de Rosiers of course.
Speaker 3 (13:55):
Yeah, he's been there a number of years and in fact,
four hundred and twenty eight victories for him, one hundred
and fifty seven losses and fifty nine ties. And they've
been to the NCAA Tournament twelve times, which is the
fourth best in college hockey for women.
Speaker 2 (14:13):
Yeah, they show up at this time of year.
Speaker 8 (14:16):
In fact, I think the only team not a nonded
woman is Clarkson from the last.
Speaker 3 (14:22):
And Wisconsin will Uncle O'Brien at center. Kirsten Simms on
the right side jungles that left defense and Caroline Harvey
will be on defense. Aba McNaughton is the goaltender. The
goaltender for Clarkson is Holly Grover. She's from Stevens Point, Wisconsin.
She played at Delofe transferre Dot to Clarkson.
Speaker 2 (14:45):
And what a feeling it must be running through her. Huh,
A lot of excitement.
Speaker 3 (14:49):
Break the backyard here and the opening face off and
the drawings controlled by Harvey of Wisconsin near boards in
the pass over the simms one touch on the league
coming in the line, Wisconsin tried to set it up
to the far point. Harvey's got to back it out
to neutral. Badgers turned sims with it. Clarkson with a
foe check, trying to hold the Badgers out of the zone,
(15:12):
and it's going to be played. An icing call will
draw the face off back in the zone of Wisconsin.
In the first period, the Badgers have outscored their opponents
seventy one to sixteen and Clarkson has outscored their opponents
twenty eight to nineteen. Face off coming to the right
side of McNaughton. Both teams. Eden's still out with it
(15:36):
on the forward line. They pick it up on the
lead to Sims. Sims comes in over the line, pulls up,
tried to lead it on the backside, wing over to O'Brien,
but it's going to be cleared. Clarkson with it on
the far side. Laid Law played it the center eyes
and Harvey with it will backhand it in over the
Knight's line. That's good when Nights with it off in
(15:58):
the lead, they come up the rights. Chandler comes in
over the line. Chandler with a drive and that went
up over the glass and out of board or stoppage.
Speaker 8 (16:07):
Employ Yeah, I think Vivian Jungles must got a stick
on that to set it up into the.
Speaker 3 (16:12):
Crowd based off coming up to sell out crowd on
hand here at Labon Arena. This building was completed in
twenty and twelve and the Badgers in one one hundred
and ninety two games and lost twenty one and the
McNaughton steers it behind it at both teams at full strength.
Just underway, Wisconsin works it up the wing on the
(16:35):
near side. Gorbatankel comes in over the line. Gorbatankele Haul
and Edwards are out on the forward line. The play
down in the corner and controlling it there for his
Potter of Wisconsin lost it and Clarkson with the puck
and they backhanded out over the center ice, pucking the
neutral zone, slides in oto the Wisconsin line, Potter with it,
(16:57):
picks it up on the far side, played it off
the wall. Badgers backhanded in over the Night's line and
Clarkson will come over to pick it up in the
neutral zone and a Badger fell down and over the
line when Catall tried to get a breakaway. It's going
to be driven back in behind McNaughton who swept it
around over to Murphy and Wisconsin behind their own net
(17:20):
for checking his Caterall. In fact, they have three players
in the zone for Coxon and they'll play it back
in over the line. Badger's with the puck was nevitches
out along with Pericard and Enright. Badgers look to set
it up on the far side and it comes to
center ice. Venusio of Wisconsin on that pass, they bank
(17:42):
it off the sidewalk. Wisconsin turns and Enright will play
it back in and rolls way past Holly Gruber to
the far wing down in the corner, turning with it
as Gosling. Gosling had it taken off the stick VENUSI
over the drive and that's blocked nicely by Clarkson around
on the far side, the puck down in the corner.
(18:03):
Eden over to set it up for Wisconsin. She plays
it to the point. Badgers will try to work it
down in the corner, but it's played by Gosling around
on the far side. Gosling and Win, two defensemen that
are outstanding players for Clarkson their leading scores, coming around
over to pick it up. On the break, they come
up the near wing, controlling the puck through center Ice
(18:26):
Tcherkowski is out with Hickson Cateral Sims with it back
over shot and it's deflected there off the body of Hubert.
The play comes to the wing on the near side,
Wisconsin with pressure in the Golden Knight zone and the
Clarkson will dump it all the way back over Katilowski
to bring it back out for Wisconsin, and the pluck
(18:49):
is loose and it's going to be played down the
right wing boards back in the Badger's zone. Sims over
to set it up. Kirsten Sims with it, fires it
out of the brank, tried to hit O'Brien.
Speaker 9 (19:00):
O'Brien with a shot right on the pass from Sims
to O'Brien banked off the back wall right back over
to O'Brien.
Speaker 8 (19:10):
That's another example of those two knowing exactly where each
other are in the ice.
Speaker 2 (19:14):
Sims and O'Brien them.
Speaker 3 (19:17):
Covered by Holly Grueber. Ye, and we'll have the face
off coming up. Leyla Edwards is on on the line
with Cassie Hall and Gorbatenko, and the night they work
it in over the line, they got a potential break.
They crashed the net and they knocked mcgotten back down
in as they came off the wing there with good
(19:39):
pressure and a lot of hustle on the part of
the Golden Knights.
Speaker 2 (19:43):
Yeah, they got some fast skaters on that team, as
you just saw there when they drove the net hard.
Speaker 3 (19:52):
And I think we've got our first penalty of the game.
Speaker 8 (19:55):
Call we do, They're gonna sit down Murphy, I believe. Yeah,
we're going to be on the penalty. Kill ball Murphy
for a trip. Yeah, pKa for two minutes here with
Ava Murphy.
Speaker 3 (20:10):
In the net for tripping her three forty two the
time of the penalty, and the Knights have thirty five
power play goals, the same as the Wisconsin Badgers, and
they have the power play on it. With it his
wind comes around on the far side over to Gosling.
They look to set it up out on top controlling
(20:30):
the puck. There as Turkowski with a drive and that
went wider than that and the cover up save and
action is going to be stopped.
Speaker 8 (20:40):
Yeah, big drive there by Hayley Winn from the point
straight away but about two stories too high off the
glass and Ava covered it.
Speaker 2 (20:49):
Have a face off to her right here with O'Brian
in the circle on.
Speaker 3 (20:54):
The power play thirty five of one oh six or four.
Clarkson on the power play advantage going back over now
back in behind the net with it is Hailey Win,
the player of the year in the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference.
Moving it up, Ice comes back in over the line.
Wisconsin will bang it off the sidewall, fucking the neutral zone.
(21:18):
We're down to one point fifteen, remitting in a penalty
time before Wisconsin'll be back at full strength and the
Badgers drive it back down on the Clarkson zone. Going
back is Hailey Win and she'll come out of the
zone controlling the puck, clears it off to the center
and then turned and Gosling fired it down in Ava
(21:39):
McNaughton with it. Clarkson controlling the puck in the Badger's zone.
They look to set it up with it as win
around in the pass comes over to Turkowski back over, shutting.
Speaker 2 (21:50):
A goal by Gosling.
Speaker 3 (21:54):
The cole Gosling stores on the power player twelfth goal
of the year. Van Clarkson has taken a one to
nothing laid over the Badgers.
Speaker 2 (22:03):
Yeah, good shot from the top of the right circle
their left circle.
Speaker 5 (22:07):
A lot of traffic in Fernieva.
Speaker 2 (22:09):
I don't know if she saw it or not. Beat
her on the right side stick side. Well, there was
a mishandle behind the net bit that kind of allows
the Nice to take possession before that score. It's too
bad there, but you got to get her back here.
Speaker 3 (22:28):
The twenty eighth assist of the year on the goal.
Tcherikowski got the assist in gozzling the goal, her twelfth
of the year in a power play goal one nothing.
Clarkson shots her two to one in the game and
it's going to be played back down on the corner
on the far side picking it up. His laid law
(22:48):
goes back in behind it at Wisconsin over to try
and control it. Badgers work it up the wing on
the near side, over the Gorba tankle often the play
over to Edwards. Edwards carries it in over the line,
working it in toward the net between the dots.
Speaker 2 (23:02):
Played it back shot and it was turned away.
Speaker 3 (23:05):
Jungles had fired it and it was deflected away.
Speaker 2 (23:12):
Some good puck little bit there by the Badgers to
get that shot on.
Speaker 3 (23:15):
Goal, and we'll take a time out. This is Wisconsin
bad women's hockey back with Mark Greenhowine Paul Brown in
fourteen twenty one remaining in the first period and the
Badgers are trailing Clarkson by a score of one to nothing.
(23:37):
Is They got their thirty six power play goal of
the year at four point fifty nine into the period.
It was scored by Nicole Gosling, their twelfth goal of
the year. Last year, Gosling was the defensive player of
the Year. This year, the defensive Player of the Year
is her partner Hailey Win, and the ECAC Defensive Player
(24:00):
the Year is Win.
Speaker 2 (24:01):
Also, those two logs a lot of ice.
Speaker 3 (24:03):
Time winning got things base off coming up you got
Sims and O'Brien along with Eden not on the ice.
Badgers win the drama. There's a shot just deflected. Why
goes over to Sims. Sims controlling the puck four Wisconsin
over to O'Brien. O'Brien goes to jungles in front around
on the near side, coming over to try and control it.
(24:26):
Badger's at neutral ice. We'll play it around on the
far side, Wisconsin turning trying to pick it up and
with it is Harvey. Harvey will dump it down in behind,
going back, Clarkson over to pick it up. They break
it out, trying to get it to Cherkowski moving it
up ice. Controlling it is Golfrido de're frido with it,
tried to center it. The Badger's forced to play in
(24:49):
the near corner, trying to pick it up as Kerwin.
Badgers go back and with it as Harvey Harvey trying
to work away from the check. A good for checking
effort here. We have four players in the zone of
Wisconsin trying to hold the Badgers there around on the
far side, over the Harvey Harvey on the far side.
(25:09):
It goes to Eden and it's going to be driven
by hurry around the boards. Badgers having trouble getting out.
Speaker 2 (25:16):
Of their own zone.
Speaker 3 (25:17):
Here there's a drive and that was almost tipped by Goodwin,
comes back over to control that picked up by Hurry
hurry on. The lead comes in over the line, controlling
its Chandler. Chandler carries it, then tried to fire it
out in front, ridden along the far wall by Jungles,
and Cantler took it away. She centered it right out
(25:37):
in front. The play comes out to cent her ice
down to twelve fifty remnning in the first period, prue
with it. Brew played it in over the line. Shot
kick saved by McNaughton, picked up by Waznevich. Wasn't Hevich
rinkwide on the past, tried to hit in right and
it's going to be covered up by Groover and play
is going to be stopped Greene. The Badgers have their
(25:59):
hands fold.
Speaker 2 (26:00):
Yeah.
Speaker 8 (26:00):
Yeah, We're playing a good team, no doubt about it.
Clarkson's here and they deserve to be Yep, they do
a lot of things correctly. You saw their power play.
They executed that well and ended up in a goal.
Speaker 2 (26:12):
They took advantage of a miscue there just prior to
it to get position.
Speaker 3 (26:16):
And it's going to be going along the boards. Gorbatanco
out with Cassie Hall and Edwards Badgers go back. It's Venusio,
Venusio being harassed by Tcherkowski and Wisconsin looking to come
out of their own zone working it up to the
near side in the neutral zone. Edwards with it on
the play trying to work through was Cassie Hall. Gorbatanco
(26:38):
shuffles it around on the far side over the Venusio.
Here's Venusio with a drive in traffic that was blocked
and it's going to be turned away by when when
we'll cycle it around on the far side as they
try to break it out. Fans getting into it. Now,
let's go red eleven fifty five remaining in the first period.
Wisconsin comes through center Spinousio on the play and the
(27:02):
drive deflected off the stick of one of the Knights
as Eden had fired it, but it goes out of play.
Speaker 8 (27:10):
Yeah, Gosling got a stick on stick there before Lacey
could get the shot off, thus sending it up into
the net.
Speaker 2 (27:17):
Yeah, we got a good, good game in her hands here,
that's for sure.
Speaker 3 (27:20):
Face off coming up to the left side of Holly
Gruber back in the Clarkson zone out for the Badgers.
His Sims along with O'Brien and Eden Badger's cycle it
around over to Eden and she was tied up and
Clarkson will turn and the clear They come up through
center Ice more set with it and that play is
(27:41):
blocked and knocked down buck loose in the neutral zone.
Abra Murphy going over to pick it up, and an
off side is going to be called. Yeah, so we'll
have the face off coming up just outside the blow
line of the Knights. Twenty five wins so far on
the gear for them. They beat Boston University in the
(28:03):
quarterfinal game here on Thursday night around on the far
side Wisconsin O'Brien. O'Brien over to set it up to
Abra Murphy. Aba plays it to the blue line, Sims
over to try and control it. Cat It's going to
be played up ice over to Gosling. Gosling flipped back
down in the corner, back in behind it at Wisconsin over.
(28:25):
They get pressure out as the line of Laylaw good
one and Cantler. It comes back to the point that's
win with it win with a shot right on it
sloops out in front and it's going to be cleared
and good pressure again by Cantler. Candler goes behind the
out of Wisconsin around on the far side over to
try and control it. Badgers look to get it out
(28:47):
of their own zone with it as Sims coming up
Ice and to play over to Eden. Eden down in
the corner, played it back over to O'Brien. O'Brien back
to the point. Badgers hold it in with Jungles work
in the wing with help. They try to go back
to the point. It's going to be turned away and
dumped down on the Badger's zone by Cantler. Badger's quickly
(29:09):
controlled it. They give it off on the pass coming
up Ices per Card giving it to Harvey. Harvey works
in over the line, coming in on the near side.
Harvey deep centered the puck, tried to go to the slot,
turned back and turned away by Cherskowski. Tcherikowski moving up
Ice coming in over the line, cleared from in front
of the net by Vivian Jungles around on the far side.
Speaker 2 (29:30):
Here's was Nevich going up the right side.
Speaker 3 (29:33):
Wassnvitch with a drive, a pop loose and whistle and
play will be stopped in front of the goaltender of Clarkson.
Speaker 8 (29:40):
Boy Wads shot that so hard, you know. The goaltender
had it clean, but it yielded a rebound and she
had to cover it up where another Badger was on
the net.
Speaker 2 (29:49):
To whack it in.
Speaker 3 (29:50):
We're gonna take a break. This is Wisconsin Badger Women's hockey,
nine fifty seven remaining in the first period. Clarkson has
a one to nothing lead over the Wisconsin Badgers. They
scored a power play goal four fifty nine into the period,
(30:11):
and that's where we stand. Shots are for a piece
in the game. It comes around on the playover the
Jungles who drove it off the back wall and the
rebound popped over the hall. Hall comes back on the
pass over the Jungles at the left point who cycled
a little in the corner on the left Badgers. Gorbatanco
dug it out centered at nobody home and Clarkson tried
(30:31):
to clear it. Badgers hold it in with Hall, so
Gorbatanko with a drive get over the hall and they
play it behind to that Gorbatanco taken down. Gorbatanco out
in front covering up and Burbatanco may have been hit
up near the head's got cross checks right into the
chin thereby a night nothing called, but it looked like
(30:56):
it didn't feel too good right in the shin. Both
teams are going to change lines here. Sims and O'Brien
and Eaton come back out onto the ice. Venusio and
kott Lawski are the defensive pairing face off. Coming to
the left side of Holly Gruber. O'Brien tries to win
the draw back of the Sims. Sims out in front
(31:17):
has shot and O'Brien had it on her stick and
it's going to be all the way down to the
Badger's zone. Quickly played out of his on the far side,
down in behind the that around the boards on the
far side. Both teams at full strength, nine minutes remaining
in the first period, boxing with a one to nothing lead.
(31:37):
Badgers clear it out of their own zone. The puck
comes through center ice, trying to pick it up. It's
broken up in the neutral zone, turned back and it's
going to be back handed down in the Badger's zone
by hurry. Kott Lawski down trying to pick it up
in the corner Badgers. There's a check from behind on O'Brien.
No penalty call there. It looked like yeah, got from
(32:00):
behind and there's a drive of it, went wide and
high around to the far side and hurry with it
along down deep in the zone.
Speaker 2 (32:08):
Kotlowski over the cover.
Speaker 3 (32:10):
She back hands it around on the near side, picking
it up as Sims Sims stick handling with a puck
comes through center ice.
Speaker 2 (32:17):
Geiss moved, worked it around, tried.
Speaker 3 (32:19):
To come back and Wisconsin at center ice, so control
it and it's going to be played back down in
the corner, trying to skate it down as Percard, Percard
with pressure and was Nevitch is there around the boards
on the far side and ride watching the traffic trying
to chase it down as was Nevitch along with Percard
(32:40):
buck loose to the point on the near side. Wisconsin
skates back to their own blue line and ride over
to pick.
Speaker 2 (32:46):
It out and ride on a play over the wast
Nevitch coming in over.
Speaker 5 (32:50):
The line, back in and shot.
Speaker 3 (32:51):
Oh, just got fust wide as was Nevitch was tied up,
but they pulled a penalty extra attacker out of the
ice for the Badgers. The round over the wave of Murphy.
They centered it right out in front Hull tried to
get off a drive and the puck is going to
be loose, but Cluckson is going to pick up a
penalty and the Badgers will go on.
Speaker 2 (33:11):
The power player.
Speaker 8 (33:13):
Well, let's see if we can reciprocrate with a power
play goal. Paul yep, that'd be nice.
Speaker 3 (33:18):
Twelve thirty one the time of the penalty, looks like
pley Win's going to go to the box for the Knights. Yeah,
looking nice to have her off the ice for a
couple of minutes.
Speaker 2 (33:29):
He's in the base play. She's a very good player.
Speaker 3 (33:33):
So the Badgers on the power play. They have thirty
five power play goals in the year. Eden is the
leader with eight, Edwards has six, Harvey has six and
they're out in the ice, so Brian will try to
win the face offs. It goes to Edwards, back out
on top, over to Sims. Here's Sims are out of
(33:53):
the far side. Given goal Sims and O'Brien. The puck
is loose and O'Brien with have tried to play it
around over the Sims. Behind the that O'Brien works the
wing on the near side, Clarkson will backhand it broken
up by Harvey. Quickly back on the far side over
the Sims comes in over the line on the plate
of O'Brien, down to Eden and she moves it around
(34:15):
on the near side, over to Edwards, back out on
top over to Harvey with a shot tip and that
was stopping employ there.
Speaker 2 (34:23):
Yeah, it looks like Nicole Gosling got a sticker of
foot on it there to.
Speaker 3 (34:27):
Deflect it wide for hide one twenty eight remaining on
the penalty time in the box is Hayley win for Clarkson.
Badgers have Edwards out, O'Brien is out, Eaton is out,
Harvey is out and the face off will come up.
Badger's control to the point and it goes around over
(34:47):
to Sims. Sims a little given go over to O'Brien.
They work the farboards and with it as Sims around
over to Edwards, laylo with it on the near side
on the past Leyla gets the return back count on
top with it as Harvey.
Speaker 2 (35:02):
Harvey with a drive into the glove of Holly Groverer.
Speaker 3 (35:06):
She picked it right out of the air in traffic.
Speaker 8 (35:09):
I tell you, I don't know how she saw that
shot with all those bodies in front of her there,
but she picked it clean with the glove.
Speaker 3 (35:14):
Six thirty seven are remnting in the first period, won nothing.
Clarkson O'Brien trying to win the face off for the Badgers.
They dropped the buck edwards in control around over the
sims on the far side and they move it in.
Eden's in the slot. There's a drive rebound shole Oh
pushed wide by Aiden. They had a.
Speaker 2 (35:34):
Scoring opportunity right there and it was just driven wide.
Good play.
Speaker 3 (35:40):
Fifty seconds remitting on the power player. Shots are eleven
to four in the game, coming up Bice coming in
over the line, controlling it. That's got to go back
over to pick it up, and it's going to be
played back in the Badger's zone. We have thirty seconds
remitting on the power play moving it up. Ice coming
(36:01):
in over the line, Wisconsin in control, Sims with it,
Sims behind, then left it for gorbatankle, but it's picked
up on the wing and controlled by Harvey. Nineteen seconds
remitting Sims with it above the circle on the far side.
They play it around over to Harvey. Harvey takes a
look moving it in on the left side, carries it
behind the that goes back out on top over the
(36:24):
sims and that's deflected away by Goodwin. Badgers try to
control the puck and Clarkson's back at full strength. Badger's
trail in the game one to nothing with five twenty
four remitting in the period, work down on the corner
on the near side over to try and control it.
Aber Murphy over to Gorbatanko. They give it off on
(36:44):
the plate of Scandal back over to gorb Tankle give
and go. Badgers look to set it up just inside
the line. Aba Murphy with a drive, goes around on
the far side and controlling it, trying to pick it
up his Potter, Potter trying to play it and Potter
with a drive it came off the body of Huber
held in Wisconsin. Trying to control the puck in the zone,
(37:07):
but it's going to be turned away by Tcherkowski. Tcherkowski
and Moriset moving it in the zone. Morriset trying to
skate it down. Ava Murphy is there. Cotter takes a
look and Clarkson with it.
Speaker 2 (37:20):
Along the far wall.
Speaker 3 (37:21):
A little scrum going on there. With four point thirty
five reminting in the period, Badgers pick it up in control.
They'll lead it up Ice. That pass is broken up
and it's going to be held in. Good job by
Gofrido around back down around the boards.
Speaker 2 (37:35):
On the far side.
Speaker 3 (37:36):
Murphy with it hangled it off the sidewall and Scandal
comes Rink one on the past that's turned and played
back down to the badger's zone near boards. Wisconsin try
to control it. Wisconsin at center ice Hall works over
the line off Clarkson around on the far side. A
shot deflected there off the stick of Prue down in
(37:58):
the corner, trying to pick it up. We're a three
fifty nine and counting in the first period. Shots are
twelve to four in the game, but Clarkson leads it
one to nothing. Are on the far side. Kott Lawski
with a kott Lowski paired with Rosnevich. Wisconsin comes in
of the line trying to control the park and they
working around It's end Ride with a drive deflected off
(38:21):
the body glove to knock down and clear it advancing
to the puck. Is gonna if the glove is going
to stop to play and pass. Yeah, heck of a
shot there by right good Steve by Gruber facing huh,
go ahead, go ahead, ball face off coming up to
the right side. Badgers get the last change. They'll come
(38:43):
out with O'Brien and that crew Yep and Venusio or
Jungles and Harvey, Sims, O'Brien and Eden and Jungles. It's
Sims with it. Sim's controlling the puck. Sims lost it,
Harvey holds his zone. Harvey with it back Handingett, but
(39:04):
it's going to be cleared back and out of the zone.
Comes hicks On Clarkson. They play it down back in behind.
Hicks turn tried to center it in front of the net.
The Badger's clear it out and they'll control it off
on the wing, drinks out on the pass. It comes

be knocked down just outside the line of Wisconsin, picked
(39:27):
up by Sim. Sim's controlling it. Sim's with it off
on the far side. It goes around over to O'Brien.
O'Brien's got Eden, Eden between the circles. Jung Zulls tries
to hold his owne and Clarkson will turn in the
clear cantler where it plays it back down deep in
the zone. Wisconsin comes out of their own zone, up
(39:48):

the line and try to put it on her stick,
lost it and it's going to be Wisconsin and Edward's
right there and it goes up into the Clarkson bench.
Speaker 2 (40:02):
Boy, I'll tell you it's up and down here.
Speaker 8 (40:05):
And then the action quick transitions they can test when
any part of the row about Clarkson so.
Speaker 2 (40:12):
Far, well, their ford check is good. It's it's aggressive,
but it's not reckless.
Speaker 9 (40:16):
You know.
Speaker 8 (40:17):
They all have a purpose, each forward that's coming into
the zone. And then they can can test you no
matter what part of the rink you're on. They do
a good job at d in their own end, but
just throughout the whole rink they can test you.
Speaker 2 (40:29):
Where we are with the putt. I'm not going to
give you much.
Speaker 3 (40:33):
Their goal came in four fifty nine of the first
period Clarkson's and it was scored to buy Nicole Gonsling,
a first team member on the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference
or twelfth goal of the year, and the assistant. The
goal went to Anne Cherikowski. She's a first team player
on the Eastern Collegiate Athletic conference. They had three players selected.
(40:57):
The other one of course they Gosling was picked. So
they have a tells you that they have the Badgers
at four of six on the wha.
Speaker 2 (41:10):
You got two teams that belong in the quarterfinals, you know.
Speaker 3 (41:14):
So we'll have the face off coming up back in
the zone of Clarkson. The Golden Knights skating from our
left to our right, rested in green jerseys and pants,
white numerals trimmed with kind of a light shade of yellow.
Badgers with their red pants, white jerseys, red numerals names
(41:36):
in the back of their jerseys. Edwards will come in
and try to win the face off for the Badgers
as he does and haul around on the play. Badgers
come around over to Aba Murphy played it behind the net.
Gorba tankle over to Badwards. Somebody's playing without a stick.
That's all around on the far side, and Wisconsin holds
(41:56):
it in Aba Murphy with a dry in front, loose
py and Grebatanco controls it. They got Edwards right in front,
and Wisconsin will move it around over to Aba Murphy.
Ava Murphy with it plays it on the wing near
side over the hall, little Gibb and go on the
near side. We're down to one fifty six remitting in
the first period with it Leyla Edwards. Edwards tried to
(42:18):
drive it through off on the wing as Ava Murphy
will carry it along the boards down in the corner,
plays it around over the grbatankel haul in front of
the net, back out on top and the play over
the Potter. Potter, with a drive deflected in traffic, went
wide laylay Edwards over to set it up. Edwards with
it around on the far side, shot that was blocked
(42:39):
and knocked his side. Potter fired it right on haul
over to pick it up. Badgers work the wing on
the far side, trying to control it. Crowd appreciating their efforts,
but it's going to be intercepted and turned back and
up ice goes Catteraul and they'll flip it down on
the corner back in the Badger's zone. With one twelve
remitting in the period, there fans channing, well, let's go
(43:03):
red here at Lebond Arena and Wisconsin comes in over
the line, controlling it on the wing near boards, and
we've got a change of a couple of players for
the Badgers. Under a minute remaining in the period, and
it's going to be played along the boards near side.
Was Nevitch controls It was Nevich fired it when wide
(43:23):
came off the back wall. Badgers try to play it
out in front and they control it to the point
on the left side. Jungles for the drive a little
wide around over to Harvey. Harvey holding the point, plays
it around over the wa was Nevitch in the corner.
Was Nevitch with the puck controls that centered it right
out in front. Jungles shuffled it back to the point,
but the pass was out of the zone. Harvey has
(43:46):
to regroup at center ice. Twenty seconds remaining in the period.
Clarkson with a one to nothing lead. Badgers try to
skate it down along the boards and coming over to
pick it up, and it's going to be played down
in the corner. We're down to less than ten seconds
for Megan the period. Wisconsin, we'll work it along the
ear boards, trying to work this clock out, and we've
(44:09):
come to the end of the first period of play
and Clarkson since heads up, Wisconsin, we're in this.
Speaker 2 (44:17):
We can play with you guys.
Speaker 8 (44:18):
Yeah, they're gonna make us earn everything that we get.
So we got to make our opportunities.
Speaker 2 (44:24):
Couch. How'd you see the first period?
Speaker 8 (44:26):
Not too bad, you know, like I said that one
mishandled before they got possession that ended up in them
scoring a goal in the power play.
Speaker 5 (44:35):
But you know, not too bad.
Speaker 8 (44:37):
We're starting to get the puck to the net a
little bit more shots were even early in the period,
and then we as you can see, we separated shot
wise a little.
Speaker 2 (44:43):
Fourteen to four.
Speaker 3 (44:45):
This is Wisconsin Badger women's hockey.
Speaker 4 (44:51):
Welcome back, everyone's extey left with you. With the first intermission,
the Badger's trail one to nothing, but Clarkson Golden Knights
getting a power play goal at four to fifty nine
in the first period. Captain the grand student Nicole Gosling
and defender her twelfth goal of the season, forty fourth
of her career, and she puts them on top one
to nothing with assists from Anne Scherkowski as well as
(45:11):
Haley Win. Haley Win, the other senior defensive captain we
talked about in the pregame show. That was their thirty
second assist of the season, the ninety fourth a hurt
Clarkson career. These clarks And Golden Knights are no Joe
player at teno to a team. They work well in transition,
they are very aggressive on the floor check. But in
the back half of that period, the Badgers started to
figure things out, settled in their passing, got more accurate,
(45:33):
and they spent eight ton of time in the Clarkson zone,
had two or three extremely high danger chances that were
only turned away by a little bit of luck in
some cases, and some outstanding play from Holly Gruber, the
senior goaltender for these Golden Knights.
Speaker 5 (45:48):
But as it stands, it's one nothing Clarkson.
Speaker 4 (45:51):
We've got an interview with Clucks and Ted coach Matt
de Roser and more for you on the intermission show.
Speaker 5 (45:55):
Stay tuned.
Speaker 4 (45:55):
It's Wisconsin Badger Women's hockey with Clarkson one Badger zero
here on time at the game.
Speaker 3 (46:01):
Back during the intermission, this is Paul Brown with Matt Derozer,
who's the Knight's head coach in his seventeenth year. Matt,
welcome to Madison, recapping for the people down here in
Madison that don't know five thirty win seasons in the
last ten twelve seasons where you guys have won twenty
or more games this year, they're twenty five, twelve and two,
(46:22):
been to the Frozen four about four times, and that
kind of thing. So overall, a lot of success and
Matt from the evaluation point for this season and last
night's game, give me your thoughts.
Speaker 10 (46:35):
Yeah, you know, we've had our moments where you know,
we've played some great hockey and competed really hard against
some great teams, and then there's other times where we've
had a little bit of a roller coaster ride. I
don't think that's uncommon for most teams in the NCAA.
You're going to go through those moments, and you know,
the hockey season is the longest season of any sport, right,
(46:57):
so you're going to have those ups and downs, and
it's all how you you manage it, right, And I
think our team has done a great job at managing
that and understanding that they just need to stick with it.
And I thought we did that last night in our game.
I thought we came out hard in the first period,
got off to a lead, and then kind of let
our foot off the gas a little bit in the
second there and let them back into it, and then
(47:19):
we kind of locked it down to the third period
even when they had a little bit of a push,
So a little bit of a roller coaster ride, but
you know, overall, great game.
Speaker 2 (47:25):
Where's the biggest growth in this team this year?
Speaker 10 (47:30):
You know what it's There's a lot that goes into it, right,
Like it's the day to day the individual player development,
coming together as a team, your leadership, kind of growing
and becoming better leaders throughout the season two. So there's
a lot of different things. I wouldn't say it's just
one thing. So that's the biggest thing. You start in
(47:52):
one place at the beginning of the year and you
hope to get it to another place at the end
of the year, and I think we've kind of grown
into that this year.
Speaker 2 (47:58):
What are your strengths and what kind of style what
we see?
Speaker 10 (48:01):
Yeah, hopefully you know, if we're if we're playing our game,
we like to play aggressive, we like to move our feet,
we like to get in on and for check. You know,
keep things pretty simple and that hopefully, you know, make
it difficult on the other team to play against.
Speaker 11 (48:17):
And that's something we're gonna have to do tomorrow.
Speaker 2 (48:19):
Right.
Speaker 10 (48:19):
They're very talented team, so you know, if we give
them time and space, they're going to be able to
make plays.
Speaker 11 (48:26):
So we're gonna have to be aggressive.
Speaker 10 (48:27):
We're going to have to cut down their time and
space to give ourselves an opportunity to not only defend them,
but also get going on the offensive side as well.
Speaker 3 (48:36):
What's your coaching philosophy and have you changed over the
last seventeen years.
Speaker 10 (48:40):
I've changed a lot, to be honest with Yeah, I
think if if you're not changing as a coach, you know,
having done this as many years as I have, you
know the kids nowadays they change as well, right, So
you've got to be able to adapt to to just
the environment that that NCAA Sports is now, and you
(49:01):
know the differences in the kids from now when they
were seventeen years ago when I started, So you have to.
Speaker 11 (49:08):
Be able to evolve. A lot of it nowadays is about.
Speaker 10 (49:11):
Building relationships with your players and having conversations and letting
them ask questions on certain things and giving them, you know,
open and honest answers to that too. So I try
to be there for my players as much as possible,
both on and off the ice, and you know, I
think they really.
Speaker 11 (49:29):
Take to that.
Speaker 3 (49:30):
We're chatting with Matt and Matt obviously you got a
passion for the game after that many years. How would
you what concerns you about women's hockey or college hockey
in general.
Speaker 10 (49:40):
Well, I think it's not only women's hockey. I think
it's all NCAA sports nowadays. Right with what's going on
with this house settlement and some of the things that
are going on on on that side of it, you know,
there's a lot of uncertainty. It's a little bit like
we're backing COVID in a sense, like I remember, you know,
COVID everything was changing from day to day, the different
(50:01):
policies that were being put on us.
Speaker 11 (50:04):
And it's a little bit like that.
Speaker 10 (50:05):
You know, the nc double A right now is you know,
something gets done and then you know two weeks later
there's a different change that that's coming about. So you've
got to be able to kind of go with the
flow and adapt and be ready for these these changes,
you know. So I think that's going to be a
big thing on the women's hockey side, and the n
(50:26):
C double A coming in here.
Speaker 2 (50:27):
If you left in your crystal wall, what what do
you see down the road?
Speaker 10 (50:33):
You know, I think you're starting to see the growth
of women's hockey really come about right now, you know,
especially with the new league and the p WHL. You know,
it looks like they're going to be able to sustain things.
You know, have a professional league. They're talking about expansion.
I really think that's going to help drive, you know,
the growth of the game on the women's side, So
(50:55):
I fully expect that. You know, you're going to start
getting more young girls playing hockey looking up to these players,
which hopefully produces more talent.
Speaker 3 (51:04):
You know, man, I remember the first day of practice
when the women's team came in here and I was
watching in practice. And I don't mean this in a
demeaning way. There were gals on that team that couldn't
pass the puck across the ice. You look at the
quality of play now on the college level, and it's
amazing the growth.
Speaker 2 (51:21):
Of the sport.
Speaker 10 (51:22):
It really is like even in the seventeen years I've
been coaching as well, it's like the depth of all
the teams is the thing that really stands out, you know.
The skill level is something that really stands out as well,
you know, So hopefully we continue along that path. I
don't really see it trending in the other way to
be honest with you, Like I said, with the PWHL
(51:42):
and all these other.
Speaker 11 (51:43):
Things going on, so it's kind of exciting to see,
you know, where we can get to.
Speaker 3 (51:48):
Yeah, you know, and I've been around a lot of years.
We don't need to talk about that. But you talk
about depth on this team for Wisconsin, and I'm asking
this question, you understand why. I don't know if I've
ever seen a team that consistently rules four lines in
three sets of defense and there's not a lot of
drop off all the way through.
Speaker 10 (52:09):
Yeah, they have a ton of talent, you know, they're
very well coached team, have a ton of depth, have
a lot of experience, have high end kids too. So
like you said, like we were going to have to
just be ready to be able to compete shift after shift,
Like you're not going to be able to take a
shift or two off or they're going to make you pay.
(52:30):
So I think our players understand that. They understand that,
you know, throughout the game of hockey, at this time
of the year, no matter what team you're playing, you're
gonna have to weather some storms.
Speaker 11 (52:40):
So we got to make sure that we're just prepared
for that and we can buckle in and kind of
get through some of those storms.
Speaker 3 (52:46):
Yeah, and it's getting down to the final thing here,
and you guys deserve to be here and have got
a good quality team, and your team's ready for that.
Speaker 11 (52:54):
They certainly are.
Speaker 10 (52:55):
Like you said, you know, our league is a very
difficult you know, obviously the last eight teams here, there's
four WHA teams, there's four ECAC teams, so we have
to kind of go through a little bit of a
gauntlet throughout the season as well. But that helps prepare
you for these moments. So we've played good competition, you know. Wisconsin,
(53:16):
you know, is a little different animal, but it's not
like we haven't been here before. So we just got
to make sure we're going into this game with confidence
and just playing our game and playing.
Speaker 11 (53:27):
The right way.
Speaker 2 (53:28):
Man, thank you for your time and all the best.
Speaker 11 (53:30):
All right, thank you, Welcome back everyone.
Speaker 4 (53:35):
At the first intermission, about two and a half minutes
until we get play restarted. The Badgers trail the Clarks
and Golden Knights one to nothing in this NCUBLEA quarterfinal game,
the final game of the season here at the Labon
Arena in Madison. The winner will go on to the
NCAA frozen four semifinal game that will take place next
week Friday at either four o'clock or seven thirty Central
(53:56):
time five or eight thirty Eastern time. I'm joined by
Paul Brown here in the booth at Lebon and Paul,
we were talking off air. You mentioned to coach DeRosier
in that interview how deep the Badgers are, But in
that first period they elected not to send the fourth
line out pretty much at all, a different look from
these coaches in terms of who they were putting out
on the ice.
Speaker 3 (54:15):
And you and I agree, that's a signal, right.
Speaker 5 (54:17):
That tells you how much I think they respect clarks
in this.
Speaker 3 (54:19):
Seat opponent exactly and Wisconsin normally throughout the year just
rolled four and let it go. Yep, but it goes
wait a minute, we need that top three in this
game here.
Speaker 4 (54:31):
So far, it really did feel like the Badgers cleaned
up their game a little bit in the second half
of that period, and especially in the final five minutes.
They spent ninety percent of that time in the Clarkson zone,
got some really good looks, weren't able to get it
past Kruber, but it seemed like the offense was firing
a little bit better.
Speaker 3 (54:47):
All right, thank you for your help there, Zach, and
Greeney is going to be back here. In fact, they're
exchanging headsets right now. We'll be underway here. Shots are
fourteen to four in the first period. Not was only
called upon to make three saves. And the young lady
from Stevens Point, Wisconsin, Holly Gruber, a senior for Clarkson.
(55:09):
She had a total of fourteen saves in the first period,
and able leads the Batgers back out onto the ice.
Here Greene down in the locker room. What was the
conversation all about there?
Speaker 2 (55:22):
Well, one of the girls come in a you know,
and Marcus, what are you thinking? What do you want
to do?
Speaker 8 (55:27):
And one respondent said, you know, we just keep when
we get the fucks down to the goal line or
down deep, we just have better things happen. And he,
like you said, he said, exactly, we did that in
the last probably four four and a half minutes of
the period to some degree, and they gave us some
good opportunities. And also, just don't pass up a shot,
you know, That's what he said. Just don't pass up
(55:48):
a shot, get it on net.
Speaker 3 (55:50):
That's one thing that's been talked about all year. Yeah,
not so much as a negative. But the players love
it when they can go bing bing thing, pass past past, boom,
beautiful goal.
Speaker 2 (56:01):
And they're also unselfish too, you know.
Speaker 3 (56:03):
Yeah, exactly, But in a game like this, exactly, let's
put pucks on the net.
Speaker 2 (56:10):
I don't care how you get them there. Put bucks
on the net. Shot on, that's a good play. And
we'll open the second period.
Speaker 3 (56:18):
The Badgers will be skating from our left to our right,
and it's O'Brien in the face off circle, Eden and
Sims up front, back defensively, Jungles and Harvey and the
play in front of the Badger bench on the far
side and it's broken up by Clarkson. The Knights play
it up the boards on the near wing in the
(56:39):
neutral zone. Badger's trying to pick up the puck and
Harvey clears it from in front of the net. She's
arrassed a little bit. She back handed a pass around
over the Jungles. Jungles fires it over to Sims on
the leads skating up ice picking up the pass is Harvey.
Harvey shot and that was pushed aside and Clarkson will
(56:59):
dump it down out of the Badger zone in the
corner and this should cause an icing and does, and
that'll draw the face off back in the Golden Knight zone.
Speaker 2 (57:07):
Boy Harvey covers so much ice there.
Speaker 8 (57:09):
She goes from one side of the rink the other
and ends up a loose puck and gets a good
shot on net.
Speaker 3 (57:15):
Jackie Crumb and Dan Cook the other coaches down on
the bench with Mark Johnson face off coming up to
the left side as Holly Gruber looks out to the
play on the point on the far side. It comes
around on the path. Badgers carry it down. They center
it through the slot all the way along the boards
near her side. Clarkson turns and they come through center
(57:38):
ice and over the line.
Speaker 2 (57:39):
Good one with it.
Speaker 3 (57:40):
Good one tried to skate it down. The Badgers chip
it out. Gorbatanco leaves it. Cassie Hall trailing picked it up,
carried it in over the line and Hall goes down
behind the net.
Speaker 2 (57:51):
Edwards is there.
Speaker 3 (57:52):
Gorbatanco in front of the goal, back out on top
to Murphy, shot wide and it's picked up. Clarkson that
back hands it around. They clear it down the Badger
zone and moving it in. Shot saved by McNaughton on
the brick away as Kerwin had a brick away and
she was turned away by Ava.
Speaker 2 (58:12):
Boy, we needed that one. She came up big for us. Ash. Yeah,
Kerwin team right in on net, coming down from the
left dot right into the blue paint, practically Ava.
Speaker 3 (58:23):
In her career sixty games she's played, she's fifty three
four and two base off on the draw played back
down in both teams at full strength. We've had two
penalties called one a side. They scored on the power
play and that's where we stand one to nothing and
right with it turned fired it right on and it
(58:44):
went through the skates of Cassie Hall got that rebounding. Boy,
there was an opportunity there, but the play just didn't
quite connect. And we'll have an icing on the Badgers
drawing the face off back in their own zone.
Speaker 2 (59:00):
We're seeing a pretty fast pacedalt the game here. My goodness,
I'm liking that. Yeah, I'm liking that.
Speaker 8 (59:05):
It'll be interesting here, Paul to see as I watched
number four and number twenty one for the nice walk
so much ice time.
Speaker 2 (59:11):
You know, if they'll wear down.
Speaker 8 (59:12):
It all later, but we'll see they're well conditioned. Athlete,
so we'll see and.
Speaker 3 (59:16):
I suspect they play moose games a majority of the time. Right, yep,
they are two outstanding players. Yes, after last two years
the player of the year are those two?
Speaker 2 (59:27):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (59:27):
Great defenseman round on the far side, coming up ice,
trying to control it play in the neutral zone.
Speaker 2 (59:33):
Badger's over to pick it up.
Speaker 3 (59:35):
Paul is out, Venusio back at the point waiting for
the pass, holding it in on the right side on
the play over to Eden Aiden back in behind the
at chasing it as Sims and O'Brien. They tried to
control the puck and it's played at center ice and
trying to lead it through on the pass, but the
(59:55):
Badgers will go back to cover Rvey with it. Harvey
coming up ice, controlling its skates through neutral ice and
flips it down on the corner on the far side.
Her Picks is out along with Tcherkowski and Catterall for Clarkson.
Badgers work the wing on the near side. Both number
one units out on the ice right now playing against
(01:00:17):
each other. Wisconsin's Harvey is back. Harvey's harassed a little
bit there and Chantleer with it and played back down
on the corner. Going back over to pick it up.
We're at the second period, seventeen oh two, remaining here
and Shantler and Goodwin and laid Law out on the ice.
(01:00:38):
Badgers come back out of their own zone. They'll work
it up. Ice controlling get in the neutral zone, eating
with it, comes in over the line, back over to Sims,
back to Eden around on the far side. Ava Murphy
carried it down along the back wall in the zone
of Clarkson Badgers with pressures. Sims is there and the
Badgers try to set it up. Had to get that
(01:01:00):
scoring opportunity.
Speaker 2 (01:01:01):
They work it.
Speaker 3 (01:01:02):
Around, trying to go back door to Leyley Edwards from O'Brien.
Then O'Brien with it, will dump it down on the
corner on the far side and back goes Prue to
set it up. Prue comes out of her own zone
with it, banks it off the glass. It sent her
eyes back, handed in over the line by Kerwin and
back is Abe Murphy and the Badger's zone Wisconsin up
(01:01:23):
Ice on the lead, Leley Edwards, Gorbatanko trying to skate
it down. Gorbatanko trying to work loose from Hicks. Badgers
move it in the slot cleared to the wing on
the near side, over to Harvey. Harvey down in the corner,
fired it right on, comes back from it to Jungles
with a shot.
Speaker 2 (01:01:41):
Win.
Speaker 3 (01:01:41):
Why Jungles along the boards. She's shooting more than she
did in the path.
Speaker 2 (01:01:46):
Yep, I like that.
Speaker 3 (01:01:48):
Back down in the corner, back in behind the net.
It a one to nothing game, and here is hurry
hurry plays it up. Ice comes in over the Wisconsin
line on the far boards, pulling it up, and the
Badgers will turn and out they come.
Speaker 2 (01:02:02):
Shots are seventeen to five. Layla adwards back in of
the line before begin in.
Speaker 3 (01:02:08):
Oh. They tried to lead the pass didn't work. They
tried to center it toward the slot and back comes
the Clarkson back end of the line. Good one with
it comes in off the wing, shot.
Speaker 2 (01:02:19):
Block rebound, Pap can't hit the pipe. That one hit
the pipe on.
Speaker 3 (01:02:23):
The rebound and it's going to be dumped back down
in the corner. Thank you, Ava mcnahton.
Speaker 8 (01:02:30):
Tap your pipe, Yeah, smoke them. If you got a bust,
pipes gonna be your best friend.
Speaker 2 (01:02:35):
Right amen.
Speaker 9 (01:02:36):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:02:37):
Fifteen oh four remitting here, great.
Speaker 2 (01:02:39):
Save initially, and then they had a rebound and Bengo
off the right post.
Speaker 3 (01:02:43):
This is a game you don't want to get down
two to nothing.
Speaker 8 (01:02:46):
No, no, no, because you got to earn everything you
get it and a small margin becomes a big one,
you know.
Speaker 3 (01:02:52):
And Cassie Hall trying to win the face off for
the Badgers with fifteen oh four remitting in the period.
Clarkson with six in the game, but they have the
one to nothing lead on the scoreboard and it's going
to be back in and down in the corner. Wisconsin
goes around over to pick it up. Cassie Hall all
banked it off the glass and right did control that,
(01:03:13):
shuffled it in over the line, tried to lead it
to Wasnvitch. Badger's in right dumps it down in the corner,
chasing it as was Nevitch behind the goal, and there's a.
Speaker 2 (01:03:23):
Check the official right there took a look.
Speaker 3 (01:03:26):
No penalty call. He had a good look at it
around over the Venusio back in behind, trying to control
it around the boards on the far side. Wisconsin with
a puck down in the corner back to the point
on the pass over to Banusio comes around on the
ploy working the wing as was fourteen twelve remitting in
(01:03:46):
the first period, Venusio holding it in at the point
and Vanusio is checked and taken on and hustling back
Aba Murphy one on one and Ava clears it carries
it along the back wall until she can get some
help from other Cardinal players.
Speaker 2 (01:04:02):
Great skating by Murphy.
Speaker 3 (01:04:03):
Some of Ice controller get back in over the line.
Speaker 2 (01:04:06):
Here's O'Brien.
Speaker 3 (01:04:07):
O'Brien coming in back of it to Sims with a
drive and apper stick it a little bit and controlling it.
Coming up Ice the play in the neutral zone, Wisconsin
back of it to pick it up. They work the
wing on the near side, Wisconsin turning trying to control it,
and the play along the boards back of it to Scannel.
Scannal is a freshman. The freshman line really hasn't played
(01:04:30):
in this game. They moved up Scannal and let her
play with others. Comes in over the line, controlling it
as Scandal down on the corner around over to O'Brien.
O'Brien controlling the puck. They had Kotlowski opening the circle
but didn't see her around on the far side, down
on the corner trying to control it and with it
(01:04:50):
is O'Brien. O'Brien back out on top. It's around Kotlowski
with it on the pass and it goes to Sims.
Sim's with it and Eden with us drive deflected wide
Badger centerate. Nobody home at the point, Wisconsin holding it
in and the play is going to be dumped back
down on the corner by Kotlowski chasing it as Cassie
(01:05:12):
Hall around the boards on the far side. Clarkson with
it will turn and out. They come to the Badger line,
they try to move it in and Ava covers up
and she makes the same We'll take a thirty second break.
Speaker 2 (01:05:24):
This is Wisconsin Badger hockey.
Speaker 12 (01:05:29):
Fine.
Speaker 3 (01:05:29):
Into the first period, Clarkson got a power play goal,
their thirty sixth of the year and the goal was
scored by Nicole Gonsling, her twelfth goal of the year.
One assist in the goal, and that is the only
red light we have seen here in goal storing so
far in this game. Shots Badgers, boy, they got a
(01:05:51):
decided edge at eighteen to six, but the trail one
to nothing with twelve thirty three remitting in the second period.
Speaker 8 (01:05:58):
That what scares me too. Two of the six shots
they had were brinkaway, sir, you know what I mean.
Speaker 3 (01:06:03):
In tight.
Speaker 2 (01:06:06):
They want to be giving those up. Aiden is out
for the Badgers.
Speaker 3 (01:06:10):
Gorbatanco, Yeah, DC Hall did the draw, doing some line changes,
trying to get some different combinations, maybe things to work,
some adjustments. Face off coming up to the left side
of Ava McNaughton. Then the face off circle. It's Hicks
(01:06:31):
for Clarkson College. In the draw, Gorbatanco clears it on
the plate to Eden aiding up the left side. She
controls the puck, tried to drop it to Gorbatanco. She
body blocked it and there was a check from behind.
Let's hope there's no penalty call there around on the
far side. It comes back over.
Speaker 2 (01:06:50):
The Badgers in front out.
Speaker 3 (01:06:52):
Oh, Gorbatanco had an open net. She's wow.
Speaker 8 (01:06:57):
Back door a great pass and I think it went
off the post man or just missed one of the two.
I think it might have went off the post.
Speaker 3 (01:07:07):
Get a look at the replay if we can up here.
Speaker 8 (01:07:10):
It's a great shot. Great plate passed from the left
wing all over to the back door where Gorbatinko was
right outside the blue paint.
Speaker 3 (01:07:18):
A's off coming up back in the Clarkson zone to
the left side of their goaltender. That is Holly Gruber
and it's played up the wing and Jungles try to
control it. Good Wooden over skated the buck Badgers turn.
They come back into the line. Here's Leila Edwards. Tried
to get off the drive. O'Brien over to try and
hold it. Harvey is there. They play it down in
(01:07:41):
the corner. Badger's in control in the corner, goes to
O'Brien in front, Harvey in front of the goal along
with Sims. Sims controls it. Sims tried to slide it
back to Harvey at the point, turned away by Clarkson
and they'll drive it down to the Badger's zone. Man
Aba McNaughton cuts it off bad banging around the boards.
(01:08:01):
They clear it to Leyla Edwards on the laid the
Sims comes in of the line. She was tied up
and Clarkson takes it away. They try to backhanded ahead.
Badgers move it back into the line with it. Harvey
tried to center it. That's deflected and cleared by the
Golden Knights and they'll fire it down in on Ava McNaughton,
who blocked it a backhander and played down along the
(01:08:24):
far side Badger's Venusio had a player tied up and
she wouldn't let her loose around on the far side.
Could have called a penalty there too, but didn't. And
it's going to be played back down in behind the net,
trying to control it. We're nearing the halfway mark of
the game. They're letting them play. They yes, they are
round on the far side the breakout pass. Harvey with it,
(01:08:47):
played it off the glass and trying to skate it
down and right along with per Card and leyla Edwards.
But pod they'll turn and they play it back down
in the corner. Back goes Venusio around on the far boards,
over to went right en right, slides it out on
the brake. Was Navitch waiting at the blue line, and
per Card will dump it down in and going back
(01:09:09):
over to control of his Hurry Hurry with it comes
up Ice on the play, moving it through neutral up
the far wing, comes in over the line, picked up
by Goodwin with a drive and covered up and steered
away by Ava McNaughton. Percard down on the corner trying
to control the Badger's in their own zone. Venusio over
to went right, went right to uh Wasnavich tried to
(01:09:33):
pick it up and per Card went down the play
picked up and controlled, moved back into the Wisconsin line
with it his win win a little given go. They're
intended for Kirwin and it's dumped down deep in the
zone by Kerwin behind McNaughton around on the far side,
cruising in front of the Badger. Netta's Kirwin goes back
(01:09:54):
deep trying to control it. Per Cards trying to move
it up Ice and control, Murphy with it. The crowd
getting into it again here Wisconsin trying to control the puck.
They'll play it along the boards on the near side
and that's center Ice with it. Murphy Murphy around on
the far boards, over the Gorbatanco and they'll dump it
(01:10:16):
down in the corner, come it off over to try
and pick it up and control. Laid Law on the
break and they'll work it back down to the Badger's zone.
Nine to ten, remainting in the period. Katlowski back kat
Lowski on the break up the near side and Wisconsin's
Eden with it, and Eden broke it up in the
neutral zone, carried it in over the line, haul work
(01:10:37):
into the net and the glove save is made by
Holly Gruber.
Speaker 2 (01:10:43):
Yeah, looks like a TV timeout coming up.
Speaker 3 (01:10:47):
Here, and then we'll take another break. This is Wisconsin
Badger women's hockey. We're back in Lebond, you know, with
eight fifty three remaining in the second period. Clarkson leading
the Badgers one to nothing. You had a point about
(01:11:08):
Leiley Edwards, who's out on the ice right now.
Speaker 8 (01:11:10):
Yeah, she's on the right way. I'd like to see
some shots off her stick. We haven't seen any today,
and boy, she's got.
Speaker 2 (01:11:15):
A great shot. We know she can score.
Speaker 3 (01:11:18):
Badgers set it up Abe Murphy with a drive. O'Brien
is out. Leiley Edwards is up on that line now
with Sims and O'Brien here.
Speaker 2 (01:11:27):
She must have heard me moving it in.
Speaker 3 (01:11:29):
There's a shot up her corner intended by Sims, went
high off the glass. So they put that line back together.
They try to move it in down on the corner
on the near side, working it behind then and with
it a Brian back over.
Speaker 2 (01:11:43):
There's the shot where we get all for the list.
Speaker 13 (01:11:49):
Patson Badgers ravas her cart coming there.
Speaker 2 (01:11:53):
And Wisconsin has tied the game, but one won. Paula
was just a for one pirate by Ava Murphy.
Speaker 8 (01:12:01):
She's just right about even with the left circle dot
and she lets one rip Bengal.
Speaker 2 (01:12:09):
Wonderful, wonderful shot by Ava Murphy.
Speaker 5 (01:12:12):
That's what we gotta have more of?
Speaker 2 (01:12:14):
What the fuck on that?
Speaker 3 (01:12:16):
Eleven thirty six the time of the goal. The assists
go to O'Brien her fifty ninth assists of the air.
She leads the country in points and Wisconsin now with
a one to one game, and let's see what that
does to the enthusiasm in the building and the backroom.
Speaker 2 (01:12:34):
Here we go.
Speaker 3 (01:12:35):
Paul Enright comes in of the line, coming back of
it to set it up in control, working it back
int the line as was nvitch down on the corner
of the right side of the play. It goes to
n Right, skates behind that that was that end right
give and go back to the point out on top
where the Jungles again back in behind to n Right
(01:12:56):
and Wisconsin down in the corner. They try to control
the pucket the point they do coming around.
Speaker 2 (01:13:02):
Jungles with a drive, get it in here loose and
moving at.
Speaker 3 (01:13:05):
Harvey and Harvey with a buck down on the corner
on the right side back out on top and it
comes over and right with a shot tipped in front,
backhanded toward the goal. They're in another gear right now, yeah,
and coming over.
Speaker 2 (01:13:19):
To set it up.
Speaker 3 (01:13:20):
Here's wat Snevi's with a drive round of the far
sidelock it off the post, almost man coming back over
to try and control it and coming up ice and
through the over the line of Wisconsin. It was fired
down on the zone by laid law. Badgers hustle out
of their own zone in a hurry. Here's Harvey comes
in over the line. Aiden with it give and go
(01:13:41):
back over and scannal backhand or when wide of the goal,
comes around over to Konlowski on the wing near boards.
Badgers trying to pick it up in the neutral zone.
Clarkson Wisconsin scandal works it in over the line. He
tried to go to Hall around on the far side,
turning in front of the Badger bench. Morris set will
fire it in behind Ava McNaughton six forty eight, remeding
(01:14:05):
in the period. Badgers at center ice control of the park.
Eden slides it down in the corner, Aiden chasing it,
playing it past win Win gets it out of the
zone on the break and Wisconsin's Kadlowski will go back
over to set it up. Gott Lewski with it off
on the brake and the neutral zone Wisconsin and controlling
(01:14:26):
it is sim Sim's with it. She's going to give
it to Venusio. Venusio tried to give it to Edwards,
who tried to tip it and play it back in.
Speaker 2 (01:14:34):
But an icing will be.
Speaker 3 (01:14:35):
Called twenty one to eight in shots one one the
store and a Murphy.
Speaker 2 (01:14:42):
Great to see her put it on the board for us, isn't.
Speaker 3 (01:14:44):
It The sophomore left defense from Kitchener, Ontario's the great player,
Great Young Lady. Two penalties called in the game, one
a side and a power whoa. There was a drive
right on off the draw by Hurry and the play
(01:15:04):
control by Clarkson down on the Badger zone in behind
the net around on the far side, trying to skate
it down. Hicks out with Tcherkowski and also out his
catag Badger's turn and they'll play that back in the
zone and going back over his fest to set it
up best looking for the outlet on the pass it
(01:15:25):
comes to Hurry Hurry coming up ice on the play
comes in over the Wisconsin line, Laylaw went down but
played it deep in the zone. O'Brien there for Wisconsin,
slides it out on the brake and sims with it
one touching it on the pass to laylay Edwards in
over the line. Badger's work the wing near side, laylay
(01:15:46):
Edwards down in the corner, tried to center it, gave
it off over to O'Brien. O'Brien tried to back end
at centering pass over to laylay Edwards back out on
top over the potter backside front of the goal set up,
and it was just steered away and back. Here's a
potential to on one the other way, moving it in
(01:16:06):
shot blocker save looked like around on the far side,
turning up ice, controlling it back in over the line,
Leila Edwards Laylah with it, moving it in, shot into
the glove of Holly Gruber and the save is made.
Four fifty six remaining in an up and down, exciting
second parent.
Speaker 2 (01:16:26):
Yeah, I was no man.
Speaker 8 (01:16:28):
I was glad to see Edwards go ahead and shoot
that puck and she Al will score on an earlier one.
There went from four uh back hand to forehand and
the goalie made a great sieve and.
Speaker 3 (01:16:39):
We've got our last time out here in the second period. Yeah,
I know we're going to keep it here brand, but
I was just going to mention good news. Also on
the basketball, Yeah, yeah, the Badgers beating Michigan State. They're
in the championship game of the Big Ten tournament.
Speaker 2 (01:16:56):
That's a huge victory for the Badgers and a great
job by that squad and guard and the whole game
with U.
Speaker 3 (01:17:03):
We got to go guys.
Speaker 2 (01:17:04):
Michigan State.
Speaker 8 (01:17:04):
They're always about four points down at halftime and then
they always surge.
Speaker 2 (01:17:09):
And win in the second half. They'd do so many
games and they didn't let that happen today. The Badgers
won it. I love it.
Speaker 3 (01:17:15):
I believe it was seventy seven, seventy four. Tom Izzo
was probably not very happy, even sure he's in the
tournament though.
Speaker 2 (01:17:22):
Yeah, yeah, deservedly.
Speaker 3 (01:17:24):
Sole twenty three to eight shots on goal in the game,
one to one score four fifty six, formating the Badger
goal by Ava Murphy or third of the year, with
O'Brien getting the assists for the Badgers. The power play
goal was scored by Clarkson in their one attempt.
Speaker 2 (01:17:43):
I've been the Badgers.
Speaker 3 (01:17:46):
We are going to have the face off coming up
on the right side, back in the Clarkson zone. Power
play hockey for the Badgers twenty three to eight and
shots man advantage, Badgers chance to take the lead. Sims
around on the play over the Harvey goes to Leilea
Edwards given go Leyley Edwards whether it she's in that
position for SOPs to shoot, and it comes back over
(01:18:08):
to Sims.
Speaker 2 (01:18:09):
Sims shot off to us. She was looking for the
upper corner.
Speaker 3 (01:18:12):
There was some net there. Badgers hold it in back
out on top. It comes around over on the play
back of it the Sims give and go and controlling it.
O'Brien back of it to Leaileay Edwards, Laila with it,
give and go, Eden with a backender went a good
try behind the net. Eden controls it Lealeay Edwards. It
goes to Harvey out on top. Harvey on the play
(01:18:33):
over the Sims Sims between the dots leylay Edwards drive.
It was blocked nicely there and that was blocked by
Gosling who may be her. She's hurting from that shot
and she can heartily skate. That would be a devastating
loss to them.
Speaker 2 (01:18:47):
Oh I know.
Speaker 3 (01:18:48):
Comes around on the far side trying to control it.
Badger's setting it up with it as sims back door
to Edwards, shot it high and wide of the goal
and it comes all the way back. Gosling cannot get
off the ice. She cannot get off the ice.
Speaker 2 (01:19:02):
Oh my goodness. Her teammates trying to help.
Speaker 3 (01:19:04):
Her and coming up ice controlling it and the puck
in the neutral zone, and she crawled to the bell.
Speaker 2 (01:19:10):
She's hurting from that shot.
Speaker 3 (01:19:12):
And coming back down on the corner on the right side,
over to try and control it around the boards, over
to pick it up, and the play down deep in
the zone. We're down to thirty seconds from anting of
the power play opportunity and a little scrum in the corner.
Who's going to come out of there with a puck?
Badgers look to hold it in. They work the wing
(01:19:32):
and Clarkson is looking like they're going to go to
a job, a good one on the power play of
Wisconsin back going around over to pick it up. Gozzling
their outstanding defenseman. She had to be helped off the ice.
She could not get up on the skate.
Speaker 2 (01:19:49):
No, not on her own phone. And here's Aba Murphy
moving it in with the.
Speaker 14 (01:19:52):
Ball, Yes, the goal back her Garbatanco hoot the goal
on the backhand or fifteenth.
Speaker 2 (01:20:05):
Goal of the air and wiscatching legs at two to walk.
Speaker 8 (01:20:10):
Listen to that crowd, Paul react to a beautiful effort
by Gorbatenko when she drove down the right wing and
took the backhander right in the neck.
Speaker 3 (01:20:19):
It's just a.
Speaker 8 (01:20:19):
Gorgeous goal by seventeen thirty three Deli Grba Tenko.
Speaker 2 (01:20:27):
I love that. Wow, wow, wow, what a goal man.
Hey earlier, that's how hard Leila Edwards shoots the puck
as we saw Gosling leave the ice with help from
her teammate, and.
Speaker 3 (01:20:41):
It's going to be played back down in the corner
over to try and set it up around the boards.
Now the Badger's with the lead and coming up ice,
controlling it coming through neutral, comes in over the line.
It looked like Waznevitch was offside, rout of the far
side trying to control it. Badgers hold it back in
VENUSI over it. We'll drive it back down in the
(01:21:01):
corner and back in behind.
Speaker 2 (01:21:04):
Right out front shot and wasn't Nevitch?
Speaker 3 (01:21:06):
Is there pressure in front of the goal back over
in control trying to chip away.
Speaker 2 (01:21:11):
Was Nevitch for the back guy.
Speaker 3 (01:21:13):
That's block and back in behind in action and play
is going.
Speaker 2 (01:21:17):
To be stopped. Paul Lacey Eden did her best, kept
the puck in, just kind of threw it at the
net and was Nevitch was down there low working with
it and almost scored another goal. Beautiful effort by that group.
Speaker 3 (01:21:34):
Kelly Gorvitanco gets the goal for the Badgers, her fifteenth
goal of the year, and Wisconsin is back out in front.
Eleven and twenty two got assists on that goal, and
it's going to be set up and controlled. Eleven is
(01:21:55):
Cassie Hall for her. That is a SUS number eighteen
on the air one two we want more, Yeah, Lannie
with her twenty second assist of the aar matching her number.
Speaker 2 (01:22:10):
Listen to that crowd ball.
Speaker 3 (01:22:12):
It's very enthusiastic, very loud here in the building, and
it is a great environment.
Speaker 2 (01:22:18):
I love it, the UW band, all these fans, it's packed.
I love it.
Speaker 3 (01:22:22):
Round on the far side, trying to control it. Two
to one score and controlling it back down on the corner,
comes back out on top. Badgers look like they'll pick
it up on the wing on the near side, back
down on the corner, eating with it, goes behind the
goal over to Cassie Hall around on the far side,
controlling it. Badgers look to set it up. Shut block
(01:22:43):
man that fired right on there by Cassie Hall heckle
to say, but gruber and scut up and controlled Lele Edwards.
Badgers control the puck back over, controlling it. Harvey with
a dry pad save comes to us, Sims, Sims control, Sims,
Edwards and O'Brien out. Harvey's out as well, little give
(01:23:05):
and go there with it as O'Brien around on the
pass over the Vivian jungles behind the at went past Edwards. Boy.
The Badgers in the second period of really controlled it.
Speaker 2 (01:23:15):
Here come into life a little bit out on the
far side.
Speaker 3 (01:23:18):
Wisconsin setting it up. Leilea Edwards back out on top,
angled it off. The wing goes in behind the nap
and they're moving it in shot by Grims point blank
range and Sims back of the net. Wisconsin controlled it.
They got Layla in front of the NAT and it's
going to be rolling back down to the Badger's zone
(01:23:39):
and McNaughton with it fires it back to center ice
Harvey on the tip, it goes to Edwards, over to O'Brien,
over skated the puck.
Speaker 2 (01:23:47):
Badgers look to hold it in with Sims.
Speaker 3 (01:23:49):
Sims on her knee and we've come to the end
of the second period of play. A standing ovation put
a Wisconsin Badgers because they've come back from a one
to not think death ship to take a turn to
one laid after two.
Speaker 2 (01:24:04):
Periods of brin. I'll tell you what, man, it was
a heck.
Speaker 8 (01:24:06):
I'm a come back upper here by the Badgers in
this second period, down by one against a team that
plays smart, takes away a lot of parts of the ring,
takes away passing lanes, good goaltending, and we found a
way to put a couple in the net that period.
Speaker 2 (01:24:21):
This is Wisconsin Badger Women's hockey.
Speaker 5 (01:24:26):
Welcome back everyone. To the second intermission.
Speaker 4 (01:24:28):
The Badgers are on top two to one thanks to
two goals and even straight vand a power play goal
in that second period. They will carry the lead into
the third period. At eleven thirty six in the second
near ted center, it was Ava Murphy from the inside
hashmarks on a feed from Casey O'Brien with a further
assist from Kirsten Sims, she rifled one into the upper
(01:24:49):
left corner of the net to get the Badgers square
at one to one, and then at seventeen thirty seven
deep into the second period, Kelly Gorbatenko, with assist from
Cassie Hall and Lady Potter. Gorbatenko took the puck all
the way up from the blue line, simply would not
be denied, forced her way to the bottom of the
near circle and put it top shelf on the backhand,
(01:25:10):
one of the prettiest individual shots you will ever see.
She was as excited as you can imagine, leapt up
against the glass in front of the fans on the
far side of the stadium. Made it two to one
on the power play score after a body checking penalty
was called against Kiera Hubby, another important factor in that
earlier In that power play, Leyla Edwards had a monster
slap shot from the far spot. She fired it right
(01:25:33):
into the leg of Nicole Gosling, one of the defensive
captains on the Clarks and Golden Knights. Gosling stayed out
on the ice as the play continued. She had to,
but she clearly could put almost no weight on that
leg and as she tried to skate back once the
puck was cleared, she fell to her knees and had
to be helped to the bench by her teammates as
play continued.
Speaker 2 (01:25:53):
We'll keep an eye.
Speaker 3 (01:25:54):
Out for her.
Speaker 4 (01:25:54):
That would be a huge loss for the Golden Knights
if she's not able to return to this contest. Hopefully
over the intermission she can get some good treatment in
the training room and feel a little bit better get
back out onto the ice. But it is Banger's two
Golden Knights one. As we get ready for the third
and final period of this NCAA quarterfinal game. The winner
we'll go on to the Frozen Four in Minneapolis next
(01:26:15):
week and they will play at either four pm or
seven thirty pm in the semifinal round on Friday. We've
got an interview with Ava McNaughton and more on the
intermission show This is Wisconsin Banger Women's Hockey on AM
ten seventy.
Speaker 3 (01:26:26):
The game back during the intermission, Paul Brown with Ava McNaughton,
goaltender for the Wisconsin Badger women's hockey team thirty three
to one and two this year. Pretty outstanding, Ava, overall,
how would you evaluate your entire season?
Speaker 15 (01:26:41):
So far, I'd say overall as a team, it's been
nothing short of incredible. You know, we were on such
an incredible team last year and you wouldn't really think
that you can go too much further up than there,
but we did, and it's been really fun to see
that see our team kind.
Speaker 2 (01:26:58):
Of flourish, and.
Speaker 15 (01:27:01):
It's just been so enjoyable to you know, get to
play here all the time and then go on the
road and play just as well. So it's definitely just
an honor to play for this university and play on
this team that's had so much, so much success.
Speaker 3 (01:27:14):
You know, and I've been around a few years, doing
a lot of games over the years in that kind
of team. I've never seen a team so deep in
terms of rotating four lines and three sets of defense.
That's got to be very gratifying from your position of
watching them go up to the ice.
Speaker 15 (01:27:30):
Definitely. I you know, whoever we have on the ice,
you know that that they're all capable of doing what
Madger hockey is. And you know, we have national players,
we have players that haven't been on the national team
yet but might be, and players that are new to
this experience and are and I think that all of
that brings a unique set of advantages to the table.
And I think that our older players know that just
(01:27:52):
because someone's younger doesn't mean that they're not gonna be
able to contribute just as equally or if not more
than anyone else. And yeah, I think that it's just
been it's been really cool. And yeah, it's obviously as
a goalie, you love to have great players in front
of you. It makes it It makes it so much easier,
and it makes makes your life just so much simpler.
(01:28:13):
So yeah, a lot of my success has to do
with what's going on in front of me. So yeah, definitely, big,
big gratitude towards them.
Speaker 3 (01:28:22):
And unbelievably, three players all the finalists for the Patty
Kasmi Award. It's only happened one time in twenty eight years,
and that's when Minnesota went forty one and zero on
a year. From your perspective, of those three, there's just
unbelievable talent, not only in the whole team, but in
those three.
Speaker 15 (01:28:41):
Yeah, definitely. I mean, you know, the Patti Kasmyer Is
is voted on by all the coaches in you know,
a panel. I think across across the league and just
have their success and what they're able to do have
that be recognized on a national stage is something that
they've earned and it hasn't come easy for any of them,
and I think that all of them are so deserving
(01:29:02):
and I am happy for any of them. And it's
obviously tough. You know, you're going to have one player
when it and two players be a little disappointed, But
I think that overall our team is gonna be able
to be happy for the person who does win it,
knowing that you know, obviously they're on a line, so
all of their successes, well they were on you know
what I mean. They normally play together, and all of
(01:29:23):
their success is kind of intertwined, and I think that
them being up there kind of just shows that they're not.
One of them isn't the best player in college hockey necessarily,
but they're the best line in college hockey.
Speaker 3 (01:29:32):
We're chatting with Aba McNaught and Ava. From your personal perspective,
how have you improved? What part of your game has
gotten a lot better this year? If that's a fair
way of saying it.
Speaker 15 (01:29:42):
Yeah, I think something I've focused a lot on this
year is just my ability to be patient and trust
my fundamentals. I feel like when I came into college hockey,
my game definitely it worked in college hockey, but it's
not what was going to take me to the next level.
And obviously I've on success in the collegiate game, but
(01:30:03):
at the end of the day, like college isn't like
my end goal, and I hope to do more. And
I think that being able to rely on my strong
set of fundamentals even when pressure is high or there's
a lot of traffic in front, I think those are
parts of my game that have.
Speaker 11 (01:30:18):
Gotten a lot better.
Speaker 15 (01:30:19):
And those are the kinds of little things that everyone
might not notice, but the people who are are goaltending
people notice, and it puts you in better spots to
make safe, so it makes the game look simpler in
front of you.
Speaker 3 (01:30:30):
Obviously, I hope you make the next level. What will
it take from a player perspective to get to that
level in terms of your game as you look at Yeah, I.
Speaker 15 (01:30:38):
Think having made this World Championship team this year as
a relatively young player, kind of breaking into that goalie
corps is a really difficult thing to do, but it's
another thing to kind of work yourself into the spot
of the starter. So like, just because I'm on that
roster doesn't mean that I'm done. And I think that
(01:30:59):
kind of being exposed to that international level and that
senior team level is something that is kind of going
to come with experience, and then from that experience, I'm
gonna be able to come back to college and say, Okay,
I need to work on these these set of things
because it's not going to work with my game now
in a national stage.
Speaker 2 (01:31:17):
What's the scouting report on Clarkson?
Speaker 15 (01:31:20):
You know, they obviously they have some really skilled players.
You know, we watched them versus BU last night, and
you know, they're they're kind of what I would expect
out of the East Coast team. They're they're pretty pretty quick,
quick to transition the puck and scored that one off
the rush, and then their power probably looked pretty strong
as well. But you know, we didn't really test their
(01:31:42):
you didn't really test their goalie too much, so we
don't really know what we're looking at there. But you
know they can tested with with Cornell the number three seeds,
so obviously everyone's gonna bring their best game in playoffs.
Speaker 3 (01:31:52):
I would expect them to be very physical because some
people believe that's about the only way you can beat Wisconsin.
Speaker 15 (01:31:58):
Yeah, I definitely know that it. We're pretty aware that
people try and use their physicality to kind of slow
us up, or you know, try and push the line
of what's a penalty and what's not. And I would
hope that the rest would kind of let us play. Obviously,
anything agreeious you kind of have to call it. But
I think physical play kind of gets even our team
going the same way. So I think we'll be just
(01:32:20):
fine against however they decided to play us, because we
have so many different levels to that our team, and
I think that we'll be able to adapt to what
they're throwing at us.
Speaker 3 (01:32:27):
I'd be curious in the locker room from the Gallas perspective,
the state of mind of this team and what's going on.
I was watching last weekend up in Duluth, and eating
starts a snowball fight and everybody's playing Gorbatanko is playing
basketball for about a half hour. People are dancing and
singing and doing all kinds of things. You guys seem
(01:32:48):
to be in a state of mind. I wouldn't call
it cockiness, but there seems to be a very confident
way that you guys are approaching this, and how do
you feel.
Speaker 2 (01:32:58):
What's it like in there?
Speaker 15 (01:33:00):
Yeah, I think our team it's funny. Sometimes I take
a step back and I'm like, wow, like we're the
number one team of the country and we're doing some
silly thing before the game, or we're you know, like
just being goofy, silly like kind of just having fun
being regular people. And I think that's really what makes
our team what it is. I think that if everyone
took it really seriously, how you would almost kind of
(01:33:21):
like expect a number one team to act. I think
that we wouldn't be as successful as we are because
we have such looseness in the locker room. And obviously
when things get tight, like we do, get a little
more serious and sometimes you need to have a more
difficult conversation or you know, you need to hold each
other accountable, and that's not always as fun. But I
think that having that looseness helps us to play to
(01:33:43):
our best, best level.
Speaker 3 (01:33:45):
It's fun watching you play all the best.
Speaker 15 (01:33:46):
Yeah, thank you so much.
Speaker 4 (01:33:50):
Welcome back everyone, And we're at the second intermission, just
about two minutes until we get back underway with the
third period. The Badgers lead the Clerks and Golden Knights
two to one thanks to one even strength and one
power play goal. Ava Murphy with the even strength tally
and Kelly Gorbatanko with the power play score and Paul
we were just looking at the scores from the rest
of the NCAA tournament. Saint Lawrence and Ohio State have
(01:34:12):
yet to get underway. That'll start at four pm, so
in about twenty five minutes here, but early or late
in the first excuse me, it is fifty one seconds
to go scoreless between number three Cornell and Minnesota Duluth.
And then at the end of the second period, which
is one period to go, Minnesota the Golden Gophers on
top of Colgate three to nothing. So very interesting developments
in the rest of the bracket.
Speaker 3 (01:34:33):
Roy and sure the people out in the West year,
they're hoping for an all WSGHA final again and it
could happen. But obviously the Badger's got to continue to
have their lead here and put this one away, and
Minnesota is probably not going to give up three in
the third period in their own barn I don't think so.
Speaker 4 (01:34:52):
After we saw Minnesota play against the Badgers, I don't
think so either that does mean though a Duluth Cornell
game very interesting to see what will happen there. It
still scoreless as they just now have ended the first period,
so a lot that can happen. And the Badgers, as
you say, they're up two to one. They've out shot
Clerk since twenty nine to eight. That here had felt
(01:35:13):
like it was very much as in the Badger's control.
You did hear Abra Murphy talk about the physical game
they played and that she hoped the refs would call
at square. You could certainly never say that the refs
have called any tickie tag penalties in this game.
Speaker 5 (01:35:26):
They've been very generous.
Speaker 3 (01:35:29):
I think with the whistles and Clarkson has come back
out onto the ice and we're going to take a
look to see if Nicole Gosling is going to be playing,
because she was helped off the ice and if she's
not playing that she's out there.
Speaker 8 (01:35:45):
I think Paul looks like she's out there. You know what,
I think it might have been out there? Yeah, I
think I asked between periods here. I think maybe she
lost her whatever, her blades came loose and that was
the big part they kept her from getting off the
ice on her own. Pall okay, I thought it was,
you know, a hard shot injury.
Speaker 2 (01:36:03):
So we'll open up here.
Speaker 3 (01:36:04):
Twenty nine to eight does Zach mention in shots both
number one lines out on the ice and the Badgers
will try to dump it. Very close game here and
things could still get very interesting, but hopefully the Badgers
will prevail here and control coming in over the line,
Control to get trying to pick up the play as
(01:36:26):
Cherkowski for around on the far side, Hicks and Kilder
all arout coming up ice. Here's a potential two on
one and over the line. SEM's back in the half
off sides.
Speaker 2 (01:36:37):
Yep, you gotta be kidding me. Oh boy, nice little
two on one. We want.
Speaker 8 (01:36:43):
Nice right there, Simson O'Brien, They got the puck on
the string, you know those two?
Speaker 3 (01:36:48):
Yeah, Amen, son of a gun.
Speaker 2 (01:36:51):
That's too bad.
Speaker 3 (01:36:52):
Here we go nineteen thirty three, remaining in the third period,
based off just outside the Clarkson line, coming over to
pick it up with it as win, we'll dump it
down to the Badger zone in behind. Aba McNaughton turned
and tried to whip it out of there as Clarkson
setting it up Badgers try to intercept the play and
(01:37:12):
it's going to be back in and behind the net.
Wisconsin's Layla Edwards off Layla again playing back now with
Paul and Gorbatenko, and they again change up a couple
of things looking for combinations and the play continuing and
coming over to pick it up, and in center ice
(01:37:33):
buck Is go belong the boards, trying to pick it
up and controlling it to the Badger line, coming in
over the line by Golfrido. Gofriedo skates all the way
around in behind the net, comes around on the far side,
plays it behind the net. The Kerwin who tried to
set it out in front, and a driver was Blue Murphy. Yep,
(01:37:55):
and that one may have heard a little bit. Yeah,
that was a bomb and Clark and goes back. The
Golden Knights circle back in behind their own net and
it's brought out by Win and they controlled the puck
in a full strength situation up the boards in the
near sign Bnusio with it around on the far side
(01:38:15):
over to Kadlowski. They tried they hit the lead, but
whistle and play will be stopped as it goes out
of play.
Speaker 8 (01:38:21):
Yeah, that long home run pass got intercepted by a
goal a night there and chinked it out of the ring.
Speaker 3 (01:38:29):
Eighteen twelve remaining in the third period. Out for the
Badgers right now is then right out with Percard and
was Nevitch and it's played in over the line of
Clarkson and right on the fore check and it's picked
up by Gozzling, Gozzling with it, works it up Ice
on the lead pass Tcherkowski with a drive and Ava
(01:38:51):
McNaughton with to say, well.
Speaker 8 (01:38:55):
I'll tell you, Paul, we don't want to make any
mistakes this period nowhere. You know, third forward is don't
get caught on the blue line, those kind of things.
Speaker 2 (01:39:03):
Let's try and make them play uphill get it. That's
part of the message, you all. Yeah, that was pretty
much the crux of it.
Speaker 3 (01:39:08):
Yeah, yeah, based off coming up to the left side
of Aba McNaughton, there's a driver just went wide. It
was fired by Chandler Roun on the far side. Wisconsin
turns and they come through center, Ice playing it back
down to the corner, trying to control it. Sims comes
(01:39:29):
out over to bring it around over to Harvey. Harvey
back over to Sims working the near side wall over
to O'Brien. O'Brien slides it back down deep in the corner,
trying to hit Eden and it's played to the point
held in by Waznavitch played it Eden behind the goal.
She's beating to the puck and has cycled away from her,
coming over to try and control. That is laid law.
Speaker 2 (01:39:52):
The Badgers look to hold it in with it as Sims.
Speaker 3 (01:39:55):
Sims pulls up in the corner and they dump it
towards the net shot blood that stay out eating right
in front about five feet away, and I'm not sure
how that did not go in in over the Harvey
with a drive and that drive goes all the way
back in the Badger's zone.
Speaker 2 (01:40:13):
Yeah, that was off into the next county there.
Speaker 3 (01:40:16):
Controlling a Wisconsin coming up ice through neutral Badgers control it.
They come in over the line where it was Navige
trying to move out in front, and Right is out
on the ice as well, and Right skates behind the
goal and get a little give and go in the
past to her.
Speaker 2 (01:40:32):
This line's been wonderful around on the near side.
Speaker 3 (01:40:35):
We're talking about Percard and Wright and Right and was
naviage yep, And it's control. There's picard with it, carrying
it back to the point. Kott Lawski around on the
far side over there was naviage down in behind. It's
controlled by n right back out on top over the
jungles around on the plate of co Lowski back of
the jungle.
Speaker 2 (01:40:54):
Shes deflected up on the whole measure off her shoulder.
Speaker 5 (01:40:58):
Yeah, and it's back.
Speaker 2 (01:41:00):
Kot Lowski will dump it back down.
Speaker 3 (01:41:01):
In the corner. Thirty one to nine in shots in
this game, but a two to one score down the
play trying to pick it up and control it rolls
back down in the corner back over to set it
up and on the wing near side, it goes all
the way back down and Win back of it to
pick it up on the far boards over to Gosling,
(01:41:22):
gozzling back over to win. Win angled it off the
boards in the side. Badgers in their own zone. They'll
set it up and they play it. Oh, it's held
in nice play Catterall, Catterall and win and they'll backhand
it in on Aba McNaughton love save to the ice.
The Harvey around on the play on the far side.
They angle it out over to the Layla Edwards. Here's
(01:41:43):
Layla coming in over the line, pop on the pass.
They move it around over the gorbat tangle back door
over to Edwards and they center it but nobody home.
Good one over to pick it up. And here's good
one moving up Ice. Here's a two on one the
other way moving it in over the line.
Speaker 2 (01:41:58):
There's a drop.
Speaker 3 (01:42:00):
Blocked it laid law with the drive.
Speaker 2 (01:42:03):
Murphy's just playing so fantastic deep.
Speaker 3 (01:42:05):
And playing back down around the boards on the far side.
Badgers look to bring it out of the zone. Fifteen
oh three remaining in the third period. It's two to one.
They move it in shot ball.
Speaker 2 (01:42:17):
Back pat save.
Speaker 3 (01:42:18):
Cantler with it all alone, about five feet away from
in front of the app. Badger's turning up Ice. They
come in over the line with it. His haul pulls
up looking for the outlet on the pass, back ends
it around in behind. Then at Eaton with it, trying
to work it loose, looking for help, and Clarkson with it.
Will work it up the wing on the near side.
(01:42:40):
Eaton trying to tire up from behind. That was hurry
and there they move it in right out in front.
There's a drive in a block vievo the round over
and back in behind fourteen twenty two remaining there's a lead.
Speaker 2 (01:42:55):
They come through moving it in Eden shot.
Speaker 3 (01:42:59):
And that stuff over the top and in the corner.
On the breakaway there play along on the wing, Eden
over to try and control it. Eden works it loose,
turning with it. Then they angle it off the boards.
On the play Smelly tried to headman the fuck Badgers
come back in of the line, Eden trying to skate
it down in the corner along with O'Brien. O'Brien over
(01:43:22):
to set it up in control and Clarkson comes out
and Harvey back over to set it up. Harvey with
it on the break over to Will Brian comes in
over the line with Sims little Gibb.
Speaker 2 (01:43:31):
And go shot blocked and it's going to be turned.
Speaker 3 (01:43:34):
Away by Catterall and it's played to the blue line
of Wisconsin whistle and action's going to be stopped on
the off side. Call thirty two to twelve in shots
two to one the lead Wisconsin thirteen thirty five remitting
back after this thirty second time out Greenhall, mister Greenhall,
(01:43:59):
Greeney affection knowing TB on this end here at Lebon
Arena in Madison.
Speaker 2 (01:44:06):
On the Goals for a Cure. We've had some contributions
come in. We appreciate it.
Speaker 3 (01:44:10):
We've got a twenty thousand dollars match going. So if
you donate fifty bucks twenty bucks at doubles, and all
you have to do is go to goalsfacure dot org
and there's information there about the disease of Alzheimer's and
that opportunity to pledge. And to those of you that have,
thank you very much.
Speaker 2 (01:44:29):
We appreciate it.
Speaker 3 (01:44:31):
Thirteen fifty thirteen thirty five remaining in the third period,
both teams at full strength faced off coming up at
the blue line of Wisconsin in a two to one game.
Badgers look to set it up, trying to control it.
They'll work it off the boards and coming up Vice.
It's Wasnavitch looking for the outlet on the past, picked
(01:44:51):
up Peron backhander out in front and the save.
Speaker 2 (01:44:54):
As may great effort by Wise.
Speaker 3 (01:44:56):
And coming back over controlling its nusio. But we Seo
off on the wing. Her breakout pass is intercepted and
there's a drive and trying to pick it up. The
Badgers chip it out coming up Ice. They'll work it
through Centersnevitch and n right, it's going to be turned
back in over the line and Tcherkowski with it. Turkowski
(01:45:16):
had it, lost control of it, win with it and
they play it behind it out of Wisconsin twelve fifty
five or many Ava Murphy in the corner with Pericard
trying to work it loose. Badgers slide it out on
the brake and right on the leade it goes to Wasnavitch.
Speaker 2 (01:45:32):
They're gonna get off the ice, jumping in deep and
get a change, and.
Speaker 3 (01:45:35):
That change coming out for the Badger has a hole
out of the ice. Back defensively for Wisconsin, it's Harvey
and uh Jungles and we'll have an ice their face
off coming up as it went out a play. Yeah,
I tell you it's the nail biting hour. There was
twelve thirty four left to go into game two to one.
(01:45:57):
Score oh man, every cults. So we got Cassie Hall
taking the draw, Garbatanco on one side and Layley Edwards
on the other. There's garbatangle shot hit the side of
the net.
Speaker 2 (01:46:08):
Wow.
Speaker 3 (01:46:09):
She got the second goal of the game, the lead
goal for the Badgers. In the last period. Trying to
chase it down. It's haul with it in the corner,
all cycles it along the back wall. Leylee Edwards came
over to pick it up, beating to the puck. Dough
and op Ice comes good one. Goodwin comes in over
the line, slides it over on the left wing, looking
(01:46:30):
for help. Goodwin got it back, played it to the
point out of the zone and Badgers look to try
and set it up. Aba mcnonn down on both knees
blocked that shot eleven fifty five remitting in the period.
It's played deep in the zone. Leylee Edwards tried to
bring it out, held in by Goslin and it's shipped
(01:46:50):
away by Leylee Edwards and it slides all the way
back down to the Golden Knight zone. Clarkson will go
back behind THENT with it is Hailey Win, player of
the Year in the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference, comes in
over the Wisconsin line, plays it down on the corner
on the right side. Badgers worked the wing over the
try and set it up. Played deep in the zone.
(01:47:12):
Kirwin with it down in the corner. Kerwin trying to
work her way lace she did from the corner. Shot
off ray bound a shot fired wide on the follow
by Gurkowski and Wisconsin picks it up and O'Brien comes
in over the line. O'Brien tried to lead it through
and give it back to O'Brien who holds his zone.
(01:47:32):
O'Brien around on the play over the wall was nevichin
to the glove of the goaltender Gruber and that stops
the player. Man.
Speaker 2 (01:47:43):
I tell you, every shift colts, every shift cults.
Speaker 3 (01:47:48):
Here the freshman line of Halverson, McCarthy and Stannel. They
have not seen much of the ice here. No no
lond Arena. Scannal has played a couple of shits that uh,
but that tells you about the significance.
Speaker 2 (01:48:04):
Of what's going on.
Speaker 3 (01:48:05):
Yeah, yeah, and controlled along the boards on the near side,
and Wisconsin will chase it down and going over to
try and pick it up around the boards, trying to
control it and down deep in the zone in the corner.
Badgers look to set it up and it comes back
out on top over to Harvey. Harvey with a little
move there, pulls up on the far side trying to
(01:48:28):
control the puck, looking for help.
Speaker 2 (01:48:30):
Got it.
Speaker 3 (01:48:31):
Badgers regroup and they try to slide it. Well, now
he's trying to tip and John guide it away by Gruber,
Yeah wow, and coming through neutral ice, coming up ice
in over the line, controlling the puck. Here's Tchaikowski, but
whistle and play stopped at the bullline of Wisconsin.
Speaker 2 (01:48:47):
There's a couple of coalse ones down there that there's
activity in the blue paint and Gruber's found a way
to keep it out of the net. And that was
one of them there with waz newit's right there.
Speaker 3 (01:48:58):
And we're going to take a break this sis Wisconsin
Badger Women's hockey n right goes to the penalty box
for the Wisconsin Badger's power play for Clarkson had a
chance to tie the game up here in the third period,
off on top, trying to control it and moving it
around a little give and go and win with a
(01:49:20):
shot came over to Gosling on the left side. Badger
penalty killers. O'Brien is out, Harvey is out, Eden is out,
and Jungles is out and play is going to be
moved out over the center ice. O'Brien comes in over
the line and she'll just dump it down in the corner.
Badger's change up one twenty eight remitting in a penalty
(01:49:41):
time coming through neutral then over the line is Haley
Win and whistling that went up over the glass and
out of play.
Speaker 8 (01:49:48):
I like that, Waz and Harvey can tested her right away.
Didn't give her any time and space over there coming
down the left wing, and we'll.
Speaker 3 (01:49:57):
Have the face off coming up back in the Badger's
zone with ninety six remitting in the third period, two
to one Wisconsin, and we've got another time out apparently
being whistled here, so we'll take another break. This is
Wisconsin Badger women's hockey. Clarkson and Wisconsin came into this
(01:50:18):
game basically tied for the lead in power play goals
in the country with thirty five apiece. Clarkson has one
up on the board that was a power play goal.
This is a critical time of the game right here,
with a two to one Wisconsin lead and one a
minute and twenty two seconds remitting in the power play
(01:50:40):
for Clarkson.
Speaker 8 (01:50:41):
Yeah, if you ever wanted to kill off a penalty,
right now is the time, that's for sure. As we
take a defensive zone.
Speaker 3 (01:50:46):
Face off for the right of Eva and Hicks is
in the face off circle and tries to draw it forward,
and Wisconsin tried to chip it out O'Brian Eden. Harvey
is out on the ice in jungles around on the
far side. Badgers will work it up ice and control
with it as Eden. Eden comes up Ice carries it
in over the blueline, goes down in the corner, passes
(01:51:08):
it off the back wall, looking to pick up her
own past, and clarkson with it. Comes back out of
the zone. Down to less than a minute. Now fifty
eight seconds remaining on the power play situation and out
on the ice for the Badgers. Now as Murphia they
change up. Was Nevitch is out. Harvey is still on
the ice with Eden laid around the boards on the
(01:51:29):
near side trying to control it. The Badgers look to
bring it out Gozzling holds it in off on the
far side. As they move it around and controlling it.
There's a shot almost tipped in front, fired by Tchaikowski
back out on top of the play over the wind
win with it at the right point. She'll carry it
past was Nevitch in front, see and the save is made.
(01:51:52):
Sava McNaughton.
Speaker 2 (01:51:55):
Wah, Yeah, that one was in tight with a great
play by wind.
Speaker 8 (01:52:00):
Wind fired that in there from the right almost the
hashmarks and there was a night right in the blue
paint to tip it.
Speaker 2 (01:52:06):
Ava was there to shut the door down.
Speaker 3 (01:52:08):
To twenty two seconds remitting in the power play situation,
they saw Off coming to the left side of Avia McNaughton.
Two to one game and the draw is going to
be set up, played back down on the corner over
to try and control it. It comes to the point
on the play to win around over the gosling back
of the win just inside the line, off of the play,
moving it in Tcherkowski back door.
Speaker 2 (01:52:31):
Yeah, they got it. They get it out of there. Yeah,
they had two players in tight and Wisconsin fans are
appreciating the efforts.
Speaker 3 (01:52:41):
The penalty is over back at full strength.
Speaker 2 (01:52:44):
Wow is that enough? Proving it up?
Speaker 3 (01:52:45):
Ice coming in over the line, trying to control it
off on the wing on the right side. Cantler are
down back in behind the nap around on the far side.
Badgers looked to pick it up. Leila Edwards coming up
the boards on the right side, over the door of
a tanko and she'll turn and then flip it down
in the corner. But whistle and that'll draw an icing
back in the Badger's phone.
Speaker 8 (01:53:05):
I think she thought she was over the red line.
She was writing the neutral zone there close but not quite,
so they had to call an ice.
Speaker 3 (01:53:13):
Yeah, feel a whole lot better with one more.
Speaker 8 (01:53:16):
Well, I like playing five on five more than playing
five on four or four on five rather base off.
Speaker 3 (01:53:22):
Coming up to the right side of Ava McNaughton and Clarkson,
looking to set it up right out there, puck came loose,
scramble for it, cleared along the boards. AABA didn't know
where that one was. There was too much traffic in
front of pad save and then it was squirreling around. Yeah,
there's a drive, and it went high and wide of
the goal, around down on the boards in the corner,
(01:53:42):
controlling it back over to set it up and controlling
it on the far side over the leley edwards along with.
Speaker 2 (01:53:48):
Cassie Hall out.
Speaker 3 (01:53:50):
Ava Murphy is out trying to get it out of
the badger zone and Wisconsin will flip it up ice
and they'll work it in over the line of Clarkson
rink wide on the pass, it comes to hurry, hurry
on the.
Speaker 2 (01:54:03):
Lead, it goes to Golfriedo.
Speaker 3 (01:54:05):
Golfrido dumps it back in behind the Wisconsin Gold coming
over a smelly to try and control it in the
corner Badgers Leylea Edwards broke it up, leads it out
over the wind right near board center. Eyes comes in
on the left wing and there's a big hit. Then
there's an official right there too. I thought they'd call
that one, but nope, and play in the neutral zone
(01:54:26):
back of it has set it up. Do any of
them have a whistle?
Speaker 2 (01:54:31):
Not today?
Speaker 3 (01:54:32):
Yeah, if it's going to be driven down on the
zone round the far side. Six fifty remitting in the
third period off on the wing trying to pick it
up and control it and Clarkson with it with a
drive and that went high and wide of the goal,
and Wisconsin will work it up. Ice that come in
over the line that got wasn everage in per car
(01:54:52):
and that's.
Speaker 2 (01:54:53):
One of the gun they take away the passing lanes
do and.
Speaker 3 (01:54:56):
Moving back up Ice with it as wind plays it
back down in the corner there out on the far side,
and Wisconsin will work it out over the sims. Sims
with it on the plate of Eden and it's taken
back there, comes back into the line, controlling it as
laylaw and back handing it up Ice trying to control.
Speaker 2 (01:55:16):
It's going to be.
Speaker 3 (01:55:16):
Played out in the court. Here's Aiden with it, moving
it in, shot deflected off of skate, Badgers hold his own.
Six minutes remaining in the third period, around the boards,
Badger's in behind, over to O'Brien back out on top.
Wisconsin comes to Jungles on the left side. Jungles down
in the corner, got past Eden around on the far boards.
(01:55:38):
Good one with it and coming to the fore check
and take it away as Sims. Sims and O'Brien and
Eden out on the forward line. Potter at the point,
can't hold it there and going back as Jungles in
the Badger's zone to retrieve. Jungles controls the puck on
the fore check. Smelly and there's another hit and the
(01:55:58):
one final on a penalty is going to be called.
Here the Badgers get an extra attacker out Avia mcnonton
is off. They give it over to O'Brien, try to
go back door, but it's going to be power play
hockey for the Badgers. With five seventeen remaining in the
third period, Badgers leading two to one. The tripping call
gives Wisconsin the advantage.
Speaker 8 (01:56:23):
Smelly goes to the box. I wonder if she got
teased as a child with that last name. I'm not sure,
but you'll sit for two minutes there.
Speaker 3 (01:56:32):
And they've taken a time out out on the ice.
Are going to resurface a little bit, get rid of
some of those chips and clippings and give them the
best surface they can have here for the last five seventeen.
Speaker 2 (01:56:45):
Tell you the fans aren't getting cheated today, No they're not.
This is any lot of people.
Speaker 3 (01:56:50):
There were some people that thought, yeah, this game will
be six to one or whatever. But if you really
looked at it, oh, I know it, and talking to
people that have seen them play and stuff, you knew
this was not going to be a cakewalk through the park.
Speaker 2 (01:57:03):
Well, as you see, they're well coached.
Speaker 8 (01:57:05):
They don't do they don't make many FOOLI if any
foolish choices.
Speaker 2 (01:57:09):
They take away parts of the rink that you know
the opponent wants to have. And their goaltending is solid.
They're a disciplined team and they got good enough players
that they can put it in the net.
Speaker 3 (01:57:21):
Coach has done a good job with them. Clarkson's seventeenth
year face off coming up to the right side of
Holly Gruber, who's out of Stevens Point, Wisconsin, the goaltender
for Clarkson. She played at Dilute and transferred to Clarkson O'Brien,
who's winning about sixty percent of her face offs on
(01:57:44):
the season. In the circle there, Layley Edwards is back out,
Simms is back out. Harvey is out as well. Love
to see this group converta one Paul and we're ready
for action. The face off coming up and circle. O'Brien
draws it forward deep in the zone.
Speaker 2 (01:58:03):
Over to pick it up.
Speaker 3 (01:58:04):
Badgers play it to the point, over to Harvey, Harvey
around over to Sims back door. They got eaten in
front of the nad and they'll work it around on
the far side, over to Harvey, Harvey on the wing,
over to Edwards. Edward's controlling the puck in front, and
with it is Eden with a shot missed the corner,
yep and striding up ice. O'Brien and it's going to
(01:58:25):
be taken away comes back into the line, moving behind
the goal. The Badgers will regroup and come out of
their own zone with a power play one twenty seven
or a minute. Badgers come in over the line whether
it is O'Brien off given go Sims back.
Speaker 12 (01:58:41):
Holes and herds for thirty first cold there and with
Cotson Lagen.
Speaker 2 (01:58:52):
Three to one. What a beautiful goal from O'Brien Sims,
and then what a great path from Sims. And you've
got Edwards on the right wing or left wing. She's
a right hander.
Speaker 8 (01:59:06):
It's almost like ovenskin on the power play for the
Capitols and she just blisters a one timer right off
the pass into the net to beat the goaltender on
her stick side.
Speaker 2 (01:59:16):
Great goal by Leila Edwards, Man.
Speaker 3 (01:59:19):
Bryan with her sixtieth assists of the year and the
forty fifth of.
Speaker 2 (01:59:25):
The year for Man Sims. Oh I love it.
Speaker 3 (01:59:29):
That was the big players in their career have over
six hundred points.
Speaker 2 (01:59:33):
Can you imagine? Goodness?
Speaker 3 (01:59:34):
Yeah, round over to try and set it up in control,
played back down on the corner four twenty one, remating
in the third period. Badger's got a little cushion now
and coming up ice controlling it. Wisconsin working it out
of their own zone with who minutes remaining and Wisconsin
comes in over the line and they'll work it. There's
a back end or right in front. Ods Nevich took
(01:59:56):
card yeah, and was Nevitch combined on the opportunity. There
goes Waznevitch, no penalty call. Clarkson moves it through center.
Ice comes in up the line, shot went high and
wide of the goal, chasing it down to the far
side as Chandler behind the net. Clarkson needing a couple
now to tie this game. Shots are thirty seven to
(02:00:17):
seventeen and shot there that was tim That one almost
went through Chandler there, run on the far side, down
on the corner, Haley Win with it back in behind
the net. Wisconsin over to set it up and control,
and they'll fire it up the boards on the near
side and it'll be a nicing called against the Badgers.
Speaker 8 (02:00:40):
Boy I tell you, sure is a lot different after
scoring a goal after not much prior to that.
Speaker 2 (02:00:47):
We're killing a penalty off, you know. So some good
things are happening here for the Badgers.
Speaker 3 (02:00:53):
So Edwards up on the board getting the goal, one
of three finalists to the Patty Kasmi reward. The other
two are O'Brien and Harvey. And penalty coming up against
Swiss moving it up, Ice coming in over the line,
trying to control it and with it Gorbatanco. Their net
(02:01:15):
is empty. The Badger's trying to control the park. They
got an empty net and with it Gorbataco turned tried
to come around back over to Harvey for Ronald the
far side. They pulled their goaltender here down to two
minutes fifty five seconds remitting the Badgers with the puck
down on the zone.
Speaker 2 (02:01:31):
Of Clarkson looking for the extra attacker. They got it.
Speaker 3 (02:01:34):
They're down three to one in the game. They move
it through a center rice and look, yes the side.
Speaker 2 (02:01:41):
Yep, he's right on that alignment.
Speaker 3 (02:01:44):
Was Badgers with thirty five wins on the year, one
loss and two ties. As we mentioned, the Layley Edwards,
along with KK Harvey and Case O'Brien, the three finalists
for the Patty Kasmier Player of the Year award. That
(02:02:07):
has only happened two times about twenty eight years Minnesota
way back. Did they have three players the year that
they went, they went, they had three finalists for the
Patty Kasmire. This is the only other time that that
has happened.
Speaker 2 (02:02:23):
This year.
Speaker 8 (02:02:24):
Yeah, I was trying to recall, and that one I
vaguely remember. I wouldn't have if you hadn't mentioned it,
but yeah, that was quite a team.
Speaker 2 (02:02:31):
Then, oh man, with wonder what the competition and I
don't mean to do the middle of forty one. You're
right now, there's just more good players. Yeah, you know
what I mean exactly.
Speaker 8 (02:02:42):
Whereas if you had a couple of good players back
then you might be able to dominate or dictate play
in a game.
Speaker 2 (02:02:48):
You can't do that today.
Speaker 3 (02:02:49):
By the way, Minnesota was beating Cornell different okay, and
Badger basketball beat Michigan.
Speaker 2 (02:02:57):
State seventy seven to seventy four. Greg Garden, the.
Speaker 3 (02:03:01):
Guy's big victory there in the championship game with a
big ten tournament.
Speaker 2 (02:03:06):
We've got to be feeling good about that.
Speaker 3 (02:03:08):
Based on coming up at the blue line of Wisconsin
two forty four, remitting in the third period thirty seven
to seventeen in shots, the official is saying something to
the Badger.
Speaker 2 (02:03:19):
Bench, somebody must have to get back out.
Speaker 3 (02:03:21):
You got to go back out there, Goba Tanko, Okay,
well I'll go I score another goal.
Speaker 2 (02:03:27):
I'll just play some more then, oh man, and.
Speaker 3 (02:03:31):
Now we've got to believe another time out?
Speaker 2 (02:03:34):
Is that called by?
Speaker 8 (02:03:35):
Uh didn't say for sure, And perhaps that might have
been a time out by clarks and me, I'm not sure.
Speaker 3 (02:03:43):
I don't want to see about it. They had they're
down by two with two forty four remitting in the period.
Speaker 2 (02:03:48):
And they had their goalie back in that they had
her port for a brief moment there.
Speaker 3 (02:03:54):
Ten time Coach of the Year Mark Johnson talking to
his team on the far side, Jackie Crumb and Dan Cook.
That true that hat trick has been together for a
long time.
Speaker 2 (02:04:06):
Yeah, yes they have. I think Jackie's first year was.
Speaker 5 (02:04:12):
Twenty ten.
Speaker 8 (02:04:13):
That team the nine ten team, and Dan's been around long,
much longer than that, even.
Speaker 2 (02:04:22):
With the exception of two years he was in Chattock
in two ten and two eleven.
Speaker 3 (02:04:27):
So their instructions have been given to the Golden Knights
of Clarkson. Clarkson located in Potsdam, New York, yep up
North two for remitting, been there when we used to
do the men's game. Here we go, Badgers try to
pick it up. En right goes down around on the
(02:04:49):
far side over the control of down to two thirty
seven remitting. Their goaltender is still in. But we'll watch
to see if they pull around on the far side.
Played back down to the corner and back behind the net.
She's still in the nets. We're down now to two
twenty four, remating Badgers played at three to one. She's
heading out now along the boards on the far side.
(02:05:10):
Shot Aba covering up and makes the save. So the
Golden Knight net is empty. Yeah, with two sixteen remaining
here in the third period, Badgers laid by a couple
of goals. They move on to the Twin Cities for
the Frozen Four next weekend if they hold on here.
(02:05:32):
That being played at Rita Arena, which is the home
rink to the Minnesota Gophers.
Speaker 2 (02:05:36):
Yeah. Yeah, it's a familiar territory there.
Speaker 3 (02:05:38):
And the play down in the corner, jungles over trying
to control it on the wing on the near side,
over to try and pick it up and whistle and
action's going to be stopped.
Speaker 2 (02:05:47):
And believe that we got a penalty here by somebody
they call it on one of the Badgers. Yes, yeah,
I believe they did it.
Speaker 8 (02:05:55):
Looks like they're walking Lucio Vivian Edwards today to the box.
Speaker 3 (02:06:02):
They call a penalty with two minutes remaining in the
period on Wisconsin, well, sun of a gun, so we'll
have the face off.
Speaker 2 (02:06:14):
A dollar for a hook or would they get a hook?
Speaker 3 (02:06:17):
Yeah, base off coming up to the left side. The
net is empty on the other end and Wisconsin trying
to move it out of the zone over to try
and pick it up.
Speaker 2 (02:06:26):
They move it back door.
Speaker 3 (02:06:28):
They've got Goodwin all alone right behind Ava McNaughton, and
they'll look to set it up with one fifty six
reminting back over it to win Win pulling up and
they move it around to the far side. It goes
over to Tcherkowski. Shot tipped lot of the goal back
down to the corner. Harvey tried to work it loose
and the Golden Knights play it to the point on
(02:06:50):
the right side, over to Tcherkowski on the play moving
it around. This is when they try to move it
in gossling back over shot blocked and kicked away. Yeah,
down to one thirty reminting a regulation time behind it
out of Wisconsin. The Badger's turning. They'll drive it down
the ice.
Speaker 2 (02:07:08):
Oh yeah, so.
Speaker 3 (02:07:09):
They have to go back and pick it up. Looking
at the clock one eighteen remitting Badgers leading at three
to one. As they come out of their own zone,
the Golden Knights of Clarkson. They'll play it in over
the Wisconsin line. Was nevitch is one of those out
of the ice Badgers behind Harvey is out of the
ice over on the far side. Was Nevitch on the
(02:07:30):
play over the Layley Edwards who drives it down the
length of the ice fifty six seconds reminting in the
third period and coming up ice it's gonna be dumped
in on Aba McNaughton, who holds on and will stop
the play down with forty seven seconds reminding well two
goal lead for the Wisconsin Badgers, and if they win,
(02:07:52):
they're on the Minneapolis Saint Paul for the frozen four.
Speaker 5 (02:07:57):
Wow.
Speaker 8 (02:07:58):
So six on four for almost well thirty eight seconds
left anyway in that forty seven in the game.
Speaker 3 (02:08:07):
Left oh boy, Paul face of coming up to the
left side of Avia McNaughton down to play around the
boards on the far side, trying to work it around.
There's a drive and it went wide of the goal.
The rebounders pushed out. They're gonna be breaking up O'Brien
with the chips.
Speaker 2 (02:08:23):
It around over to Eden. Eaton's getting in man, she's
tied up. Whoa They're gonna call a penalty.
Speaker 3 (02:08:29):
Is that a penalty shot? We want a penalty shot.
That's we want a shot. That's a really weird She
did not get off. She did not get an opportunity
to get the shot away.
Speaker 8 (02:08:44):
O'Brien got it off to her and she was going
to the net and a couple of players drug her downan.
Speaker 2 (02:08:52):
So Eten with the effort there unbelievable.
Speaker 3 (02:08:58):
Yeahs gotta go back in yep, oh Man and Lacey Eaton,
who is unquestionably one of the team leaders.
Speaker 2 (02:09:11):
Yeah, she's also one worker. She's also the one that started.
Speaker 3 (02:09:15):
The snowball fight last weekend in Duluth.
Speaker 2 (02:09:17):
Yeah.
Speaker 8 (02:09:19):
Uh, whatever it takes getting teammates going. Yeah, she never
stopped moving her feet that whole shift.
Speaker 3 (02:09:25):
Can know every there's no shot, but it'll be uh
four on, it's going to be set up and controlled.
I thought they were going to call one. She go
not get off the opportunity, No rado the far side
over to control of twenty five seconds remitting in the
period down to the corner on the far side. Crowd
coming alive. They're eighteen seconds away from watching their team
(02:09:49):
advance to the Prosen four coming up bights. There's en
right four high and ten seconds, remitting Clarkson.
Speaker 2 (02:09:58):
Skating through center eyes. The Badger team, the bench is
getting excited. Oh yeah, they're gonna try and go back and.
Speaker 3 (02:10:05):
Win the national championship. Last year they lost to the
buck guys of Ohio State in the championship game. They're
on to the Frozen Four in the Twin Cities.
Speaker 2 (02:10:18):
Gotta love it, Paul.
Speaker 8 (02:10:19):
I can't wait to get back there. And it may
end up looking a lot like the WCHA tournament. We'll
see what happens in some of these other games. But
I'm just grateful to have beaten.
Speaker 2 (02:10:29):
I'll tell you what you got.
Speaker 3 (02:10:30):
To get clarks A lot.
Speaker 2 (02:10:32):
Yeah, I'll say a great team. They belong here. They
belong here. They got a heck of a team. All right, Greenny,
thanks for laugh We'll be back. That was gonna tie
him out. This is Wisconsin Badger Women's hockey.
Speaker 4 (02:10:50):
Welcome back, everybody. After three periods complete, the Wisconsin Badgers
defeat the Clerks and Golden Knights four to one in regulation.
They win this NCAA quarterly final round. They will move
on to the NCAA Frozen Four next week in Minneapolis Friday.
They will play it either four or seven thirty Central
time at Ritter Arena in Minnesota.
Speaker 5 (02:11:11):
I'm joined by Paul Brown.
Speaker 4 (02:11:12):
Paul an incredible game and at the very end, Lacey
Eden streaking towards the net, shorthanded empty net. She gets
hours wrong on that year. Get right, yep, we're gonna
talk about just what happens. She gets held around the ways,
she gets tripped out at the lakes, they call the penalty,
and because the net is empty, what would have been
a penalty shot is instead an a warned goal. So
(02:11:33):
Lacey Eton, with assists from Casey O'Brien and Emma Fanusio, closes.
Speaker 2 (02:11:37):
It out with an awarded goal.
Speaker 5 (02:11:39):
What an effort play from the senior and a big.
Speaker 3 (02:11:42):
Victory for the Badgers. They're thirty sixth of the year
against one loss and two ties, and right now you
can look to the Twin Cities and the Frozen four
and hopefully the Badgers can win that national championship, which
would be their eighth of the year, the eighth of
their career.
Speaker 4 (02:11:59):
You told me at the break at the end of
the first Sooner mission that you had an eerie feeling,
and they definitely felt that there was a lot of
energy in the building. It was one nothing Clarkson, and
it felt like they had figured out something important about
Wisconsin that was letting them have success. And let's not
take anything away from Clarkson the outstanding at they are
a very good team and they played very well. But
the Badgers really figured their own game out in the
(02:12:21):
second period. We got the scoring started with Ava Murphy
a one timer on an assist from Casey O'Brien and
Kirsten Simms at eleven thirty six. That was an even
strength goal. Then later in the second at seventeen thirty seven,
Kelly Gorbtenko, assisted by Cassie Call and Lady Potter, a
power play goal to get them up two to one.
Then in the third period, another power play goal at
(02:12:42):
fifteen twenty four, this time Leila Edwards with assists from
Kirsten Simms and Kate and Lacy Eden. And then finally
Eden herself gets the awarded goal at the very end
nineteen twenty eight to make it four to one. And
what an effort for these Badgers to come back from
a game that had a feeling like it might have
been slipping away.
Speaker 3 (02:13:01):
Yeah, and they're gathered all of the team in the
neutral zone and they're playing varsity. They're crowd. A majority
of them have State, not all, but a majority of
the people of stayed and the Badgers are They're got
that big goal in front of them yet that they
can still accomplish. And right there, they're going to get
(02:13:24):
a big blackard of some kind and.
Speaker 5 (02:13:26):
Yep, they've got a picture of the Frozen four.
Speaker 2 (02:13:29):
Lodo.
Speaker 4 (02:13:29):
They're going to take a team photo, but first they're
going to jump into the glass in front of the crease, preachers,
the student section cheering on their beloved Badgers who have won.
And we'll move on to the NCAA Frozen four. It
does look like the coaches are going to spend a
little more time out there, so I think we can
take our final break. We'll come back with final analysis.
Hopefully we'll have an interview for you with associate coach
(02:13:50):
Dan Associate head coach Dan Cook.
Speaker 5 (02:13:53):
We're going to take a short break of.
Speaker 4 (02:13:54):
Me back on Wisconsin Banger women Tanti here on an
ten seventy the game.
Speaker 5 (02:14:00):
Welcome back to everyone.
Speaker 4 (02:14:01):
If you're just joining us, you missed a heck of
a game in the NCAA quarterfinals. Here as the Wisconsin Badgers,
the number one team in the country, defeat the clarks
and Golden Knights four to one in the final game
of this season at the Labon Arena. They will move
on to the NCAA Frozen Four to face an unknown
opponent right now, but we will hopefully have more information
for you on that shortly. But the Badgers will play
(02:14:24):
either at four pm or at seven thirty pm, depending
on the draw, in the semifinal game on Friday at
Ritter Arena in Minneapolis.
Speaker 2 (02:14:31):
We had the.
Speaker 3 (02:14:31):
Gloves are now, the sticks are down, the hats are
coming on. They're picking up a lot of different things here.
Speaker 2 (02:14:38):
Everyone is as they go through the season.
Speaker 3 (02:14:40):
They won the WCCHA regular season, they won the playoff season,
and now they're one of the four teams in the
Frozen Four tournament.
Speaker 4 (02:14:48):
And as we look at the other teams that are
currently playing, Wisconsin, as we mentioned as defeated Clarkson four
to one, Ohio State and Saint Lawrence have yet to
get started. Colgate in Minnesota does look like it has
concluded three to two in favorite Minnesota, So wow, Colgate,
and there is the final, So Minnesota does defeat Colgate
three to two, which means the Badgers will face the
(02:15:09):
Minnesota Golden Gophers in the semifinal game, a rematch of
the WCHA Championship from last weekend. As it stands right now,
which is four twenty one left in the second period,
it is still scoreless between Cornell and Minnesota Duluth. So
a lot happening around the world of college hockey as
we see the Badgers getting their final pictures. We're going
to go to some highlights for you and hopefully we'll
(02:15:29):
have that interview with coach Cook after the end of those.
Listen to these wonderful highlights from tonight's four to one
victory between Wisconsin and Clarkson.
Speaker 3 (02:15:39):
And the opening faceop and the draw's controlled by Harvey
of Wisconsin nearboards in the pass over to Sims one
touch on the league coming in over the line. Wisconsin
tried to shut it up to the far point. Harvey's
got to back it out to neutral with it as
win around. The pass comes over to Tirkowski back over,
shutting the gold by Goslin. The cold Gostling stores on
(02:16:04):
the power player twelfth goal of the year, and Clarkson
has taken a one to nothing lead over the Badgers
and it's picked up Clarkson with it backhands it around.
They clear it down the Badger zone and moving it in.
Speaker 2 (02:16:16):
Shot saved by.
Speaker 3 (02:16:18):
McNaughton on the breakaway as Kerwin had a brick away
and she was turned away by Ava down on the
corner on the near side, working it behind the nap
and with it a Brian back over.
Speaker 2 (02:16:30):
There's the shot where we get the goal for the
Wisconson Badgers. Brava's her court.
Speaker 3 (02:16:39):
Colla there and Wisconsin has tied the game but one
one and here's Ava Murphy moving it in with the.
Speaker 2 (02:16:52):
Parpa takes cast the goal the backhander.
Speaker 14 (02:16:55):
Barba Tanco the goal on the Backgander fifteenth.
Speaker 2 (02:17:01):
And Wisconsin Leedsen.
Speaker 3 (02:17:03):
Tooto one off of the play moving it in Tcherkowski
back door.
Speaker 2 (02:17:07):
Yeah, they get it out of their Yeah, they had
two players in tight.
Speaker 3 (02:17:15):
And Wisconsin fans are appreciating the efforts. The penalty is
over a penfuls RN Dodgers coming over of the line
with it as O'Brien off.
Speaker 2 (02:17:23):
Given go Sims.
Speaker 13 (02:17:25):
Backs the little scouts and bards for thirty first call
year and Wisconsin legs.
Speaker 2 (02:17:37):
At three to one. What a beautiful goal.
Speaker 14 (02:17:40):
From O'Brien Sims and they were the Badger team.
Speaker 2 (02:17:45):
The bench is getting excited. Yeah, they're gonna try and
go back and win the national championship.
Speaker 3 (02:17:52):
Last year they lost to the butt guys of Ohio
State in the championship game.
Speaker 2 (02:17:57):
They're onto the Frozen Four in the Twins.
Speaker 4 (02:18:01):
Shitty you hear that great call from Paul Brown, our
Hall of Fame broadcaster. The Badgers are going back to
the Frozen Four. It's in Minneapolis at Ritter Arena Friday,
either four pm or seven thirty, and they will face
their biggest rivals, the Minnesota Golden Gophers.
Speaker 3 (02:18:17):
And you know, and I don't mean this as a
negative at all. You know, you think about it, the
rivalry between those two schools, the fact that they're almost
exactly fifty to fifty over their history. The Badgers have
won the last nine games with Minnesota, and you hate
to even have the thought of those darn Gophers are due.
(02:18:40):
But it should be a great tournament.
Speaker 2 (02:18:42):
I should.
Speaker 4 (02:18:43):
I counnot wait to see it. It does look like
we are on. Actually, let me just check in, Coach Cook,
are you down there by chance?
Speaker 2 (02:18:52):
Okay?
Speaker 4 (02:18:52):
So I don't think we're going to be able to
get coach Cook tonight unfortunately, so we'll have to call
it there. Thank you so much for joining us again
if you just are tuning in Wisconsin. Has defeated the
Clarkson Golden Knights four to one in the NCAA quarterfinal match,
the final match of the season at the Lavon Arena.
We're heading to Ritter Arena in Minneapolis on Friday at
either four or seven thirty pm, where the Badgers will
(02:19:14):
take on their biggest rival in the Minnesota Golden Gophers,
in the semifinals of this NCAA tournament. Thank you so
much for being with us here for everyone at wtsoam
ten seventy the game. Excuse me our producer back of
the station, Brad Berg, our wonderful broadcast team of Paul.
Speaker 2 (02:19:30):
Brown, and our great am back there.
Speaker 4 (02:19:31):
Hey man, Brad does a great job on the potentiometers
thanks to him. My name is Zach Seeloff, saying so long,
take care of yourselves and take care of somebody else.
Speaker 5 (02:19:39):
Good night, everybody,
