and the Voice of the Badgers, Matt Lapage.

Speaker 6 (01:10):
Good evening from Verry Avarez field at Camp Randalls Stadium
alongside of Mark Tusher, a sideline reporter, Patrick Herb, engineer
David Kamtz, statistician Mike Keller, and Aisha Jackson. Back at
a Network studio. This is Matt Leapey. We welcome you
to Wisconsin football. We welcome you finally back to Wisconsin football,
nine months removed from when we last saw this team.

(01:33):
A bitter end too, a disappointing season, they lost five straight,
but that's in the rearview mirror. Fresh start tonight, minutes
away from the opening tip as a Wisconsin opening kick
as the Wisconsin Badgers take on the Miami RedHawks, the
anticipation real and as much as things have changed in
college football, the marching band has done its thing, The

(01:54):
spirit squad has come out, the bucket wagon has come out,
and we'll see the Badgers emerge from the tunnel here
very shortly. And Tash, let's get to our construction business
group Keys to the game, Wisconsent Operating Engineers, Build your career,
Join one three to nine dot com. Talash, what do
you got for your keys here tonight?

Speaker 10 (02:10):
Well, it's not going to be a shock from a
keys to the game standpoint. We've all offseason, you just said,
nine months, we've been kind of talking about this and
the way it finished up. This game is always going
to come down to physicality, and Wisconsin has went out
in the portal. They've made a concerted effort to get
back to being more physical, and I think upfront we

(02:30):
need to see that on both sides of the ball,
and if we do that, I think we're going to
be very happy with how tonight goes.

Speaker 6 (02:36):
This program is leaning into the underdog label. You watch
the social media videos, if it's Joel Klad, Josh Paid,
others who are who have the big platform. They talk
about this schedule, can you find a few wins? Kind
of reminds me of the coach you played for here.

(02:57):
You want to doubt us, want an opportunity to make
a statement beginning tonight and for their sake hopefully throughout
the course of the year.

Speaker 10 (03:05):
I think there's always that mentality here. There always has been.
Even in our best of days, it was you know,
I could remember in ninety nine when we are going
to a Rose Bowl and those same pundits, different pundits,
same message, Oh it's the worst team. We lean into
that because we realize and I think the thing with
this program, when we've always been successful, it has been

(03:26):
because we're going to outwork and the whole concept of
get I want to be so physical that you can't
even practice the next week. That's the mentality that you
want to leave on the opposing team. And I think
that underdog mentality it fits what Wisconsin is all about.

Speaker 6 (03:44):
Well, we talk about as much as the college landscape
has changed, not is changing has changed nil the portal
all that goes on with that, and the uncertainty of
this team with so many new faces, it's still college football.
There is still the pageantry which is going on right
now as fans have the bracelets. We got a pretty

(04:04):
good light show going on at Camp Randall Stadium. And
as we bring in our sideline reporter Patrick Herb Patrick.
One thing that also hasn't changed is the pure human
emotion for these Wisconsin Badgers players as they get ready
to take the field for the first time this year.

Speaker 11 (04:20):
They're standing in the tunnel right now with their head
coach Luke Fickle and they're holding them back and right
now Mark Tasha knows it better than anybody, but that
feeling right.

Speaker 12 (04:28):
Now of anticipation and excitement.

Speaker 11 (04:30):
And what I think about is I think about guys,
true freshmen who are making their first appearance on this turf,
or transfers like Matt Young, a guy from Nina, Wisconsin
who didn't get the Division one offers coming out of
high school, went to Division III Bethel College and is
now fulfilling a dream of taking this field. We're same
with Davis Hinzen from Manatuak, Wisconsin, who said this week

(04:52):
this will be a dream come true when they take
the field and under the lights on a Thursday.

Speaker 5 (04:57):
Night with the lights shield.

Speaker 11 (04:58):
What's going on in the fireworks right now, keV Randon
looks about as good as it gets right now, boys,
But an absolutely perfect evening, sixty seven degrees, a clear sky,
a gentle breeze from the east, about as perfect.

Speaker 6 (05:14):
It's a perfect night really here unsplashed. It was sunsplashed
earlier today, No, but it was it sunsplashed.

Speaker 10 (05:21):
It absolutely, And to Patrick's point, I just think there
is It's great when we have a lot of kids
that come from out of state and they come and
it's an important thing to them. But you just brought
up a couple of guys that have transferred in and
it just means a lot to in state kids when
you get an opportunity to come out here, and for
some of these guys, it's been a long journey to

(05:42):
get to play in Camp Randall on a Thursday night
on a Saturday, to get out and play. That emotion
does run deep and it's fun to see you finally
get to this point.

Speaker 6 (05:53):
Captains tonight for Wisconsin Billy Edwards, Darryl Peterson, and Joe Brunner,
and the honorary captain was truly a star as a
Wisconsin Badger. Joe Showbert, Joe the Show. And make no mistake,
these honorary captains, this is a big deal, big deal
for the current guys, say hey, here's a part of

(06:15):
the past. You play for the guys who were here
before you. And that hasn't been a lot to Joe here.

Speaker 10 (06:20):
Tonight, and there were games he was just I remember
we're calling it and it was Joe Schobert in the backfield.

Speaker 5 (06:27):
Make it plays.

Speaker 10 (06:28):
It means a lot, and I think it's always awesome
to see when the alumni get invited back and they
get to go out and do this. You're right, Matt
It is a big deal and there's a lot of
pride in doing it.

Speaker 6 (06:38):
Ricardo Holman also out there representing the captains. Ryan Banks
is the referee. Let's pick him up.

Speaker 13 (06:44):
Wisconsin logo will be heads. The Big Ten logo retails
heads tails. Miami, you're the visitors. Therefore you get to
call the toss.

Speaker 6 (06:53):
What's your choice? Tails is the call? It's heads.

Speaker 14 (06:58):
Did the first.

Speaker 6 (06:59):
We'll take the all correct. Which way do you want
to kick? So there you go. Wisconsin has deferred, so
Miami will. Wisconsin won the toss and has deferred, so
Miami will get the first opportunity. We'll go right to left,
south to north here in the first quarter of play
as we are about set to go Wisconsin and the
Miami RedHawks.

Speaker 10 (07:21):
And this is always you know special teams because you
watch practice and it's there's there's full speed, but there's
always that unknown. When your your first game, when there's
full on contact for an extended period of time. You know,
special teams always. Those are kind of that group that
the big plays can come from. And when you're an

(07:42):
underdog trying to find ways, whether it's reversus trick plays,
you're always looking to gain an edge in that special teams,
especially early in a football season.

Speaker 6 (07:51):
Yeah, you watch anybody who watched the Week zero any
of the week zero games. You saw some mistakes, you know,
not clear of the rules and that type thing. Special
teams mistackles something and of course it's badger defense. Will
get an early look at Ta Kwan Finn, the very
gifted quarterback now a Miami Redhawk. He was a star

(08:12):
at Toledo, played but three games, was banged up. It
just didn't work out at Baylor. So the Michigan native
is back in the mack, this time with the school
located in Oxford, Ohio, Miami University. So we are out
set to go. Lionel Billips Williams one of the deep men.

(08:33):
Keith Reynolds as well. Both are receivers in the Miami offense.
Andrews in the Holme Cardinal uniforms, the white pants, the
white trim. Miami also a red and white team, the
white jerseys with the red and black trim. There's Nathaniel
Vakos will handle the kicking duties. It was a good

(08:56):
battle with him and Gavin Lohm. Both we're really good
in training camp. But Vekos has the honors. As we
are set to go at Camp Randalls Stadium, Badgers kicking
north the south, left to right. As we see it,
kick is in the air and this will sail into
the end zone untouched. And season number one hundred and

(09:16):
thirty seven of Wisconsin football is underway. As the Miami RedHawks,
we'll start at their twenty five yard line.

Speaker 10 (09:23):
We've been talking all off season with the new players
that have brought in all the size and all the length,
and you're gonna see, I think a different mentality within
that group. There's obviously more depth, but what you really want,
you want to get off to this fast start. Get
this Miami offense where they're going to be in a
ton of third and long, so you let these new
players get after that quarterback.

Speaker 6 (09:44):
Ta Kwan Finn. Here's the quarterback. They'll come out for
receivers slot left, slot right, well the RedHawks twenty five
yard line. First play for scrimmage and in mosh just
is Kenny Tracy. They'll take the handoff to him. Finn
up the middle, squeezes for about five near the thirty
yard line, though market looks like at the twenty nine

(10:05):
on a gain of eight of four plus change second down,
coming up full of the RedHawks.

Speaker 10 (10:10):
Yeah, they started empty and obviously you have your checks
as a defense.

Speaker 5 (10:14):
At empty. They bring their running back back in motion
a little fake. Finn keeps it a little crease there,
picked up a quick five.

Speaker 6 (10:20):
Well call it second and five, just shy of the
thirty yard line. Jordan Brunson in there, running back now
slot left formation on second and five, Miami and its
own thirty yard line. Finn out of the gun, takes
the stamp, ficks the hand off and those over the middle,
and it is the dropped almost picked off. Austin Brown
back there the safety in coverage passing intended for cam

(10:41):
Perry Redcher junior receiver, and it's third and five for
Miami and its own thirty yard line.

Speaker 10 (10:46):
Yeah, Finn, it was a slant just over the middle
of the field and he threw it behind him and
Austin Brown. That is a You talk to Brady Collins,
you talk he has really improved from a speed standpoint,
and that laid a lick on him, putting the ball
down to the ground.

Speaker 6 (11:01):
Three receivers right, one on the left, Third and five
Miami and its own thirty yard line. As Finn scans
the Wisconsin defense are me checking off at the line
of scrimmage. Now Josh Ringer is in there at running
back lake clock is the two. Here's the snap, the
give to Ringer across the thirty yard line diving to
the stick. Looks like he might be just short of it.

(11:23):
Well Mark at the thirty four. Christian Olegro getting in
there for the Badgers at his fourth out about a
half yard ago. How daring are you in the early minutes,
said coach Chuck Martin.

Speaker 5 (11:34):
Not very It doesn't look like that was a big stop.

Speaker 10 (11:37):
As a defense, you're looking Usually if it's third and three,
you have to kind of read out both run pass.
They decided to go on a third and five a
straight run. Got very close here. Make sure you're in safe.
Don't give up anything on a fourth and short.

Speaker 6 (11:51):
Here's Stainton is on the punt for Miami and the
snap is clean. The kick is away Terrell Henry. Let's
say it hit inside the twenty yard line of Miami.
Bounce and it will trickle inside the right about at
the fifteen yard line. Henry getting dangerously close to that

(12:11):
bouncing ball. Fifty one yard punt Badger start at their
fifteen yard line. See how Alliant Energy is building a

slash Powering Beyond Now our first look at Billy Edwards
in the Wisconsin offense.

Speaker 10 (12:30):
Wow, I'll tell you this, that's an interesting maneuver because
fourth that wasn't fourth and a long one that was
fourth and a couple of football legs. Miami of Ohio
decides they're gonna punt, play it safe.

Speaker 5 (12:43):
That tells me they trust what this defense can do.

Speaker 6 (12:46):
Jackson Acer Dylan Jones in the backfield, little pistol. Look
on first down, Edwards hands off the Jones off the
left side. I think it's hit right away by Adam
Trick at the line of scrimmage. Trick, the defensive end
mentioned he is a good one four and a half
sacks last year. An interception in the bowl game. Second
down and ten Wisconsin at its own fifteen yard line.

Speaker 10 (13:07):
That was just Adam Trick just kind of beat his
man off the left side of Wisconsin's offensive line, beat
him inside, didn't let Jones even get started.

Speaker 6 (13:15):
And second down Edward's back in the gun, Dylan Jones
to his left one discrimage a fifteen yard line Edwards
quick shot right side that's caught by Vinning Anthony across
the twenty five yard line, had pulled out of bounds
by the cornerback Luke Evans at the twenty six again
of eleven, first down Wisconsin.

Speaker 10 (13:31):
That simple pitch and catch, and obviously Miami has been
here in all physical run the football, run the football,
a lot of space there for the Anthony catches. It
turns up field quickly picks up a quick eleven and
a first down, and.

Speaker 6 (13:44):
He put together a good year and what was a
frustrating year for Wisconsin's offense, but Anthony bit of a
breakout season a year ago. Edward's under his center Jacob
renfro Now on first and ten at the Wisconsin twenty
six yard line and the handoff goes to Dylan Jones
up the metal slips across the yard line near the
thirty one on the gain of a better part of
five yards.

Speaker 10 (14:05):
Under center. That was an under center play for everybody,
and it pulled right. Guard Mandell did a nice job
of kind of reading through kicking it out and what
I like there from Jones not bouncing it, seeing the
hole or going and just lowering his shoulders.

Speaker 5 (14:19):
A man in the hole is able to pick up
three or four yards just getting vertical, getting north south.

Speaker 6 (14:23):
Yeah, we'll call it four. Second down and six for
the Badgers their own thirty yard line. Two receivers right,
one on the left, Acre Wing right motions left pass
with Edwards just knocked away, batted back again by the
defensive end to Adam Trick. There's that a factor here
in this first series of defensive snaps full of RedHawks.
Third down and six for the Badgers at their own
thirty yard.

Speaker 10 (14:42):
Now that's a called run play, and Edwards decides he sees,
you know, there's there's keys to read. If there's soft
coverage it, get rid of the ball, just like we
kind of saw with Vinne Anthony before, get rid of it.
Go pick up that first down. Trick did a fantastic
job of reading it, getting his hands up, knocking it down.

Speaker 6 (14:58):
Ny Anthony, Treutch Keckohua come out wide to the left,
Chris Brooks to the right, Edwards back into the shotgun,
Dylan Jones to the right of the quarterback with the
thirty yard line of Wisconsin hand off Dylan Jones trying
the left side of the line. He gets stood up,
driven back at the thirty two or thirty three yard line,
and some good work by the Miami defense as the
Badgers will be forced to punts and again that was

(15:19):
Trick leading the charge for the red Hawks. They'll market
the thirty three. So what's fourth and three for the Badgers?

Speaker 10 (15:25):
Just a hard zone play to the left and again
interesting both teams third and five decided to run the
football and a nice step acre kind of came back
to bluff the defensive end. The end didn't buy it
since down and was able to stop Wisconsin short of
the first down.

Speaker 6 (15:40):
Annichus Bertram's on the punts, Liono Billups Williams is deep
for the red Hawks, snapped to Bertrams and the left
footed kickers sends it toward the Miami sideline. Did not
hit it well and it flies out of bounds. We'll
see how far up they market. There's a mishit on
the first punts of this season for Bertram's and they're
walking up across the forty up to the forty five

(16:03):
to the forty seven yard line. Just today twenty seven
yard punts and we'll have our first media break of
the night. American Family Insurance is the official insurance partner

in the shotgun run first and ten. He'll read it,
ride it, keep it running right across the fifty and
he has taken down. Good work by Christian Allegro what
he got on the Badgers defending this shifty quarterback.

Speaker 11 (19:03):
Miami's quarterback last year ran for a total of six yards,
so defensive coordinator Mike Trussell will watched a film from
two years ago when Avon Smith was more of a
mobile quarterback. One thing they pointed out was that their
offensive coordinator likes to wait and see the formation before
calling his plays, So they're going to intentionally line up
almost identical on every snap to try to disguise what
the coverages are to Miami there's.

Speaker 6 (19:24):
A gain of two. Second and eight for the red
Hawks with their own forty nine yard line. Two receivers left,
two receivers rights as the Kwan Finn, the seventh year senior,
takes the staff, flips it to the right. It's pulled
down by Kenny Tracy, who gets belted out of bounds
in Wisconsin territory at about the forty six yard line.
It's Deianni Hill, cornerback transferred from Miami, who was at

(19:47):
Marshall for a couple of years before that. Third down
and three for the red Hawks.

Speaker 10 (19:51):
And that's always the tough part where you get your
back and you just get him out because from a
linebacker standpoint, you're reading it, you're thinking it might stay in.
Released their quick paul out of Finn's hand, setting up
a third.

Speaker 6 (20:03):
And three about three to the lefts one to the
right from the Wisconsin forty six yard line. Third down
and three four Miami Deion Colsey wide left, motions to
the right. He's a transfer from Notre Dame. The high
shotgun staffed to fin pockets tight. He's in trouble, trying
to dance out of it and won't get it done.
Brought down at the line of scrimmage now with Sebastian

(20:24):
Cheeks getting there at the forty six yard line, so
they made that pocket tight and it's fourth down and
three for Miami and looks like Mark Mason on the
putt team here again and that's what he will do.

Speaker 10 (20:39):
Cheeks did a nice job coming off of the right
to off of the left tackle the right end spot
got a good push, but Laane did a really good
job of getting push back in making Finn bounce out
of the pocket and then great redirect by Cheeks to
chase him down and get him short of the first down.

Speaker 6 (20:55):
Stainton on the punch Irell Henry is deep, snap is good,
right footed punter, kick is away. Henry will let it
hit and the RedHawks trying to down it, and it
looks like they will. It was very close to breaking
the plane of the goal line, but it did not.
It got tapped and the Badgers will be starting at
their six yard line. A terrific punts from Pierce Stainton

Yeah, that was a just a quick, easy dump off.
Good protection. Miami plays coverage and they have a shot
at Jones right at the line of scrimmage. As you said,
Dylan said no, no, no, no, no, kept his hand down
for a little balance that was able to pick up
five when there wasn't much there.

Speaker 6 (25:02):
For the twenty two of Wisconsin's second down, as Edwards
will stay under center, Tyrrell Henry in motion right to
left now comes back the other way. Edwards turns, he'll
give it to Jones, hits it off the left side
across the twenty five yard line or been hundred. The
linebacker is there to wrap him up at the twenty
six or the game of four and the Badgers have
a third down and one and a lot of areas

(25:23):
they want to be better at, including third down efficiency
just thirty six percent with the Badgers a year ago.

Speaker 10 (25:29):
Love the job there by stack the tight end on
the back side. It was a hard zone play, which
is everybody is going hard to the left. You have
to get push on that back side. He was able
to do that, shoving him down to the ground, setting
up a third and.

Speaker 6 (25:41):
Short seven fifteen left first quarter, no score. Lance Mason
the tight end lines up, winning the left side, the
hand off to the full back Jackson Acre, and he
will fight his way for the first down. He'll get there.
Needed the twenty seven, got the twenty nine. As we say,
welcome back to the full back position imagined in the pregame.
He's listed his tied in Jackson Acre. He'll do whatever

(26:02):
and is perfectly good with lining up at full back
and he will move the sticks with that run.

Speaker 10 (26:07):
Oh I bet there is a lot of Badger fans
listening and watching thinking, boy, is this a welcome sight
because third and short obviously was an issue last year.
Getting back to under center, getting it to the full
back and picking up a first down.

Speaker 6 (26:21):
Edwards back of the shotgun. Now Dylan Jones to his right,
tretch kakahuna, Chris Brooks wide to the right, Vinnie Anthony
to the left, rolling right as Edwards looking looking pressured,
and he will throw it away incomplete and the vicinity
was tretch Kakahuna Silas Walters over in coverage, but that
was a throwaway. He's second down and ten for the
Badgers at their twenty nine yard line, six twenty five

(26:42):
left in the first quarter.

Speaker 5 (26:43):
No school, Yes, smart play by Edwards there. It was
a you don't.

Speaker 10 (26:46):
Want to just sit back and sit in that pocket.
You want to move your launching. You want to get
different launch spots, keep the defense guessing.

Speaker 5 (26:53):
Quick rollout to the right.

Speaker 10 (26:55):
Trent wasn't there and instead of holding it and letting
something maybe bad happen and get get it out of
your hand, move on to the next play.

Speaker 6 (27:02):
Edwards goes back under center, receivers either side Jones the
running back. Edwards looks to throw, which it over the meddle.
That's caught inside the forty at Brooks down to the
thirty five yard line of Miami. Tony calling on the tackle.
Chris Brooks getting involved in the early going first down
Wisconsin across the forty five to their forty six.

Speaker 10 (27:22):
Nice passing lane there, and Brooks does a great job.
What you love about that throw is right in stride.
You see the high hands by Brooks hit him right
in his hands and he didn't look back, was able
to keep his momentum going for a really nice pickup.

Speaker 6 (27:36):
In a first down, Brooks will line up wide to
the left. Badgers get organized offensively to receivers to the right.
Edwards under center, single set back as Dylan Jones a
little into round. Here comes Stretch ka Kekahuna, bending left
across the fifty into Miami territory down to the forty
seven yard line, wind up slot to the right, motion left.
Took the hand off and get seven yards out of it.

(27:58):
Check it out in three for Wiscon.

Speaker 10 (28:00):
A nice job by Davis Hines and left tackle of
just getting out in space and covering someone up, letting
trench kind of cut off of it.

Speaker 5 (28:07):
Really nice play design there.

Speaker 10 (28:08):
You still saw the fake on the handoff to the
right side as he was giving the ball to Tretch.

Speaker 5 (28:14):
A lot of misdirection.

Speaker 10 (28:15):
You want those linebackers eyes to be flying all over
the place.

Speaker 6 (28:17):
Edgrew's catching some rhythm here. Double wide to the Reichs
with Ballard wide backs are off set. Edwards gives to
Jones room up the middle inside the forty five hurdles
over some Miami bodies inside the forty dove of the
thirty nine yard live, and we're seeing a pretty good
mix of the portfolio. If you will. Of Dylan Jones,
He'll make you miss, He'll run through you and gets

(28:40):
the first out of the Miami thirty nine yard life.

Speaker 10 (28:42):
Oh, nice job by Jackson Acre of kind of cleaning
up on the back side of that zone. You're going
the hard zone out to the right, something that Grimes loves.
Hard cut back. And then Dylan Jones made a guy
miss hurdle.

Speaker 5 (28:53):
The guy picked up some nice yardage.

Speaker 6 (28:55):
My pre snap movement. Kade Jacamelli out there now lines
up wing to the left, Chris Brooks ye left, Henry
wide right, motions left, Edwards under center takes a stamp
hand off. Dylan Jones slicing inside the thirty five and
down to the thirty two yard line of Miami again
an effective first down run. Silas Walter is getting in
there defensively for the RedHawks gain of seven second down

(29:18):
and three at the Miami thirty two yard line with
four to twelve in counting left in a scoreless first quarter.

Speaker 5 (29:23):
Just a really nice job by everybody up front.

Speaker 10 (29:25):
And then you know Dylan Jones being patient not just going.
A young player, you're always thinking you want to go.
He was patient, read his blocks, a nice pickup.

Speaker 6 (29:34):
Derryan Dupree in the backfield, motions out wide to the right,
Kecklahuna to the left of Billy Edwards. Two receivers right,
one on the left. Edwards gets the stamp, looks to throw,
looks scans flip's left side wide pass incomplete. Keckahuna got
a hand on it, but that was it. At the
twenty nine yard line of the far side. Bentley marker down,
Eli Blakey on the coverage and here's the call.

Speaker 13 (29:58):
Andels to a player downfield. Three D five offense, five
year old penalty, second down.

Speaker 6 (30:03):
That's Grant Steck Richard freshman tash. You talked about him
doing some work as a blocker. He's a very highly
regarded tight end out of Sleepy Hollow, Illinois as the
far western suburbs of Chicago. But someone I think is
a lot of promise at that tight end position as
they continue to build.

Speaker 10 (30:21):
That room, and you want, if you're going to be
a tight end here, you're gonna need to block and
then you could catch you do all that stuff later.
And he thought he did a really nice job during
camp and so far a couple of times on the
backside and done nice chop cutting guys off.

Speaker 6 (30:33):
They walk it back to the thirty seven of Miami.
Second down in eight years, they hand off Dary and
Drew Prie inside the thirty five yard line down to
the thirty three of Miami. That will set up third
down and four for the Badgers. Roosevelt Andrews on the
defensive line, the Richard sophomore on the tackle. Third and
four Wisconsin at the Miami thirty three, and.

Speaker 10 (30:53):
You're seeing a little dose of everybody here. You're talking
about three backs. You Yachamelli in there, you get dupre
in there, you get Jones in there.

Speaker 5 (31:00):
Kekahuna back there.

Speaker 10 (31:01):
There's all kinds of different looks trying to kind of
find out what how Miami is going to react to
it and also showing the versatility off.

Speaker 6 (31:08):
It's Dupree and Yakamelly flanking edwards right now and again
on the end around to the right side inside the
thirty yard line, and cold Tyrrell Henry got chopped to
the turf at the twenty nine. That's what they needed.
It looked like he got enough and they say he
did first down Wisconsin just inside the twenty nine of Miami.

Speaker 5 (31:26):
Oh and Yakamelly. Yakamelly came out and just decleted and
that gave that gave a little room there for that
first down pickup.

Speaker 10 (31:35):
But you love to see it, your tailback getting out
there and leading and putting a guy down on his Keyster.

Speaker 6 (31:41):
Bay methodical drive here for the Badgers, two forty left
in the first quarter, no score from the twenty nine
of Miami. Kad Yakamelli the loane running back, Bendy Anthony
wide right, Jayden Ballard wide left. Here's the hand off
to Yakamelle looking for space inside the twenty five. Some
patient running there, trying to make something out of it,
and he gets the better part of five. You're the
twenty four of Miami.

Speaker 5 (32:03):
Seeing a little bit of everything here. Jed sweeps.

Speaker 10 (32:06):
You're seeing hard zones, you're seeing some power, some counter
this time you did, you pulled, you pulled some guys.

Speaker 5 (32:12):
You're moving it, you're gap blocking. It makes the.

Speaker 10 (32:15):
Defense have to think a lot, and it allows your
offense to kind of dictate what's going on.

Speaker 5 (32:20):
Just a really good mixing and matching here so far.
In this draft.

Speaker 6 (32:22):
Thirteenth play of this drive about to unfold from the
Miami twenty four yard line, second out in five, double
wide to the left, Edwards fakes the head off to the
Yachaelli underressure whips it over the medal tough pass and
the pass is broken up intended for Lance Mason Eli
Blakey on the coverage plus tough throw. But it was
a good one, but Blakey was there to break it up.

(32:42):
And he's been a stalwart in this Miami defense. Third
down and five for the Badgers at the twenty four
yard line of Miami.

Speaker 5 (32:50):
Yeah, he got there a little early.

Speaker 10 (32:52):
I am not one that wants a flag on everything,
but a good job by Miami there of getting pressure
drilling Edwards stay and then they're making the.

Speaker 6 (33:00):
Throw receivers either side. Jackson Aker now motions and lines
up slot to the left. Joseph Griffin is wide to
the right from the twenty four yard line of Miami.
Shotgun snap Edwards looking throws deep shot right side. Watch
Griff then and it is incomplete look like contact, but
they say not the case. Where is The Badgers take

(33:24):
the shot to the end zone well defended and the
Badgers drive stalls and the field goal team comes on.

Speaker 10 (33:33):
I mean you can call that a lot. What I
would say is he never turned his head. And when
you don't turn your head and you're grasped on, I
think there was some stuff there. You could have definitely
called some.

Speaker 6 (33:45):
Caleb Martin on the coverage, Nathaniel Vakos with a forty
two yard field goal. Try a little bit right of center.
The Lions are down. Bertram's will hold snap, his clean
ball down, kick is away, It is in the air,

three to nothing, Wisconsin with one thirty nine left in quarter.

(36:23):
Number one RedHawks. They keep it close against the big boys,
don't they. Patrick.

Speaker 11 (36:27):
Although the last three years they've played eight games against
Power five teams now Power four.

Speaker 12 (36:31):
I suppose they've won two of.

Speaker 11 (36:33):
Them, and then they've kept the game tied or been
within one score deep into the second quarter in five
of the other six. Consider this last year against my
or a Notre Dame who was pretty good. Miami led
three zip midway through the second half. So this is
their mo keeping games tight.

Speaker 6 (36:48):
Daniel Vacos with the kick, Keith Reynolds will field it
and actually the fair catch called and they'll start at
the twenty five yard line. First in ten. By the way,
on the opening kick, they gave that tea signal where
your arms go out to your side, and now that
means in the bowl game, the South Carolina Illinois game,

(37:09):
usually that means you're not running it back. You're just
gonna take the touch back. But the rule said you
could still play it, so it was legal what South
Carolina did last year and not particularly ethical. Brett Bilima
expressed his displeasure on it, and since then the rule
has changed. If you give that tea signal, then you're
not able to return it. That was maybe the most

(37:32):
entertaining postseason game of all last year. Trips to the
left to Kwan finnin company on first down and a
handoff into the line looked like Brunson in there for
a yard and that's it and Mason Reiger throws him
to the turf. Transfer from Louisville. This staff is really
high on this edge player. He is put together, didn't

(37:52):
play for Louisville last year because of injury, and someone
who they are really thinking it up. This defense.

Speaker 10 (37:58):
This fault, Yeah, that was not easy year. The court
of Finn riding it, riding it. Rager did a great
job of sticking with it and getting him down.

Speaker 6 (38:04):
Two receivers left, two receivers right for the twenty six
yard line, Miami territory, second down and nine for Da
Kwon Finn and the RedHawks offense. Final minute here of
the first quarter snap the Finn Badgers bringing four. Finn
with time shoots it to the right and that is
caught by Cole Weaver and he gets drilled by Deganti Hill,
but Weaver hanging on to it. A first down for

(38:25):
the Red Hawks to their thirty six yard line.

Speaker 10 (38:28):
Yeah, a little bit of space there, but a great
job by Hill closing and bringing it. Almost rattled that
football around, but Miami are able to hold onto it
and pick up a first down.

Speaker 6 (38:37):
Weaver a big frame six five two twenty five Richard
softcore out of Georgia. Thirty three seconds left, first quarter,
three nothing, Wisconsin first in ten. Miami at its own
thirty six yard line, trips to the left. Finn looking
left now he'll try to run it to his right.
It's across the forty yard line, chased out of bounds
by Mason Reeger near the forty five. They'll mark at

(39:00):
the forty four and again that's what Finn can do.
He could he could get outside as he did there
and he gains eight yards.

Speaker 5 (39:07):
That was design run the whole way.

Speaker 10 (39:08):
He did a little pump fake off to his left
just to get I think Wisconsin's linebackers, but then they
pulled guys out. That was design run off the right side.
He showed his athleticism there picking up a quick eight.

Speaker 6 (39:21):

Came back at Camp randle Steadium Mike Keller with a
quick scoreboard update. Wisconsin leeds three nothing at the end
of one quarter here against Miami earlier tonight. It was
on the road for the early game tonight that has finished.

(41:55):
Rutgers wins thirty four to thirty one eighth and calik
Man has had two hundred and fifty two yards and
two touchdowns in that game. Currently going on, at the
end of one quarter, Cincinnati leads Nebraska three nothing and
Minnesota leads ten to three over Buffalo at the half.

Speaker 6 (42:10):
All right, Mike we be give the second quarter second
to two Miami from its own forty four yard line
and baking the handoff. Keeping it is the Kwan Finn.
He gets knocked down across the forty five and up
to the forty seven yard line again, he rides it.
He shows it, he rides it, and again he kept
it and he gets the first down to the forty
seven yard line of Miami on the first player of
the second quarter.

Speaker 10 (42:30):
It puts a lot of pressure on not only your
defensive lineman trying to read.

Speaker 5 (42:35):
That because he does hold it, he does ride it a.

Speaker 10 (42:38):
Long time, and he's athletic enough to get outside and
put pressure on the edge of your defense. That was
a good job by Wisconsin limiting it to two or
three yards.

Speaker 6 (42:47):
Red Hawks go north to south, left to right. As
review it of the second quarter, four wides to either
side for the Miami forty seven yard line and on
first down the handoff to Kenny Tracy probing the left
side into a stack at the forty eight maybe the
forty nine yard line. Not much there at all. Tyrese

(43:08):
Fearbrey transferred from Kentucky and on the play as well
as Parker Peterson, a transfer from Tulane. Peterson one of
those one of several three hundred pounders of that defensive
front now for Wisconsin.

Speaker 5 (43:21):
Yeah, not a lot of movement there.

Speaker 10 (43:23):
That was a really good job of just holding the
point of attack and giving no room there to run.

Speaker 6 (43:28):
Three receivers to the left, second and eight Miami at
its own forty nine yard line. Finn shows it, gives
it to Tracy and not not a whole lot, gets
to midfield and that's about it. Well, Ben parton getting
in there. There's a familiar name, one of the leaders
of this defense. They're down and we'll call it six

(43:52):
along six from the forty nine of Wisconsin.

Speaker 10 (43:55):
That Ben just did a really good job there, taking
on as blockers, not allowing any space, given the rest
of Wisconsin's crew a chance to get in there and
make a play, setting up a third and six.

Speaker 6 (44:07):
The forty nine of Wisconsin too, receivers right one on
the lefts.

Speaker 5 (44:13):
To Kwon.

Speaker 6 (44:14):
Finn takes a snab Badgers trying to bring some heat.
Finn gets away running left. Flags are down Finn inside
the forty five of Wisconsin penalty marker in the area
of holding. As the Badger's brought some pressure and put
some heat on Finn, he escapes. But maybe I had
a little help from a hold. Here comes the coal.

Speaker 13 (44:36):
Holding off at sumber seventy four ten year od pillet
in the previous spot.

Speaker 30 (44:40):
It's their down.

Speaker 6 (44:41):
It's Greg Smith, the left guard. You mentioned. No returning
starters from Miami. Smith played some last year.

Speaker 5 (44:52):
Drewp.

Speaker 6 (44:53):
Terrell, their right tackle, has played tight end previously in
short yardage situations. But newbies all around in the starting
lineup for Miami. And it's now third down and seventeen
for the RedHawks of their own forty two fifteen gone
by second quarter, three nothing Wisconsin, two receivers left, two

(45:13):
receivers rights, Finn takes the stamp. Badgers rush for Finn
byers left and a one hopper incomplete near midfield and
just not much there as the Badgers are able to
get the stop and Miami will be putting from its
own forty yard.

Speaker 10 (45:32):
Line the play before with the whole the trust will
brought a little bit of pressure, was able to force
even though it was you were able to pick up
a lot of yards, got the penalty, and now this
is where you want to live. If you can get
Miami in a situation fourth and fifteen plus, you're gonna
you're gonna have a great, great night.

There's not a ton of room.

Speaker 10 (48:34):
Anything that Miami has been able to get is what
been with their quarterback.

Speaker 5 (48:39):
You've bet you've seen a.

Speaker 10 (48:40):
Lot of a lot of stoutness up front. So far
from this newly minted defensive line.

Speaker 6 (48:47):
Bill and Jones six carries twenty six yards so far
for the Badgers. Tretch Kickohuna motions, the lines up slot
to the left Edwards, the throw fires to the right
Jaden Ballor the catch across the thirty yard line to
the thirty one gain of eleven. They had a first down.
This is about opportunity for Jaden Ballard. That Ohio state
receiving position has been stacked.

Speaker 5 (49:07):
Pretty tough place to bring it.

Speaker 6 (49:08):
Yeah, I was asking about that. He said, you learn
things by being around Chris Olive Marvin Harrison junior of
Mecca of Buca. But someone here get to an opportunity
trying to make that payoff for Jayden Ballard in this
receiving position for Wisconsin. From the thirty one of the
Badgers first and ten, Garry and Dupree in a running

(49:31):
back and Edwards playfake looking throws to the left and
it is dropped by Vinnie Anthony Luke Evans on the
coverage catchuple pass near midfield, Vinnie just did not pull it.
In second and ten for the Badgers at their thirty
one yard line.

Speaker 10 (49:46):
They got to see the armstrength there because that was
a far hash to the far sideline throw. Vinnie Anthony
does a really nice job of running his route, getting separation,
just kind of short armed it a little bit. The
ball was there. What not perfect, but definitely catchable. One
video will say he should have.

Speaker 6 (50:04):
Caught Joseph Griffin, the transfer from Boston College, lines up
wide to the right, Chris Brooks Tretch Kekahuna to the left.
On second down receiver screen pass caught by Kekahuna fights
his way across at thirty five sig zagging across the
forty that's making people miss and Tretch Kekahuna gets the
first down to the forty four yard line of Wisconsin.

(50:25):
That is nifty work from Tretch Kekahuna.

Speaker 10 (50:29):
That was all Tretch because Brooks actually missed the first block.

Speaker 5 (50:33):
It was a.

Speaker 10 (50:33):
Two by two. It's your guy, your guy, and he missed.
But Tretch did a great job. And then to Brooks's
Brooks did a great job of not just pouting, getting
up and then getting.

Speaker 5 (50:43):
A nice block, picking up a nice twelve thirteen yard game.

Speaker 6 (50:46):
Double wide to the right. Edwards under center the first down,
Edward's off the play fake back to throw, lots of time,
now pressured, winds up, throws a deep left side incomplete
down the left sideline tenant for Vinnie Anthony at the
ten yard line of the air side. Second down and ten, Well,
the Badgers at their forty four yard line.

Speaker 10 (51:06):
Oh, nice shot play there, that's where you've met kind
of max protect.

Speaker 5 (51:10):
It's a two man route.

Speaker 10 (51:12):
Is to have a just a cross post there to
Vinnie Anthony. Not quite able to get it there, but
a little bit of pressure.

Speaker 5 (51:19):
Edwards was hit as he threw it.

Speaker 10 (51:21):
But I love the idea taking a big play opportunity there.

Speaker 6 (51:24):
On first down, Silas Walters in coverage, Vinnie did get
behind him. On second down, Edward tans off Drian Duprie
across the forty five yard line, spins his way to
the forty seven. Eli Blakey safety comes up to make
the tackle gain of three for Dupree to the forty
seven of Wisconsin where it's now third down and seven.

Speaker 10 (51:44):
And this is where I you know, from just for me,
I'd like to see where we're at with this, because
this is this is where your.

Speaker 5 (51:51):
Quarterback makes a big difference.

Speaker 10 (51:53):
When it's third and six plus a defense understand you're
gonna pass, You're gonna have blitz packages. How you can
get through that process the football.

Speaker 6 (52:00):
Big play here, re receivers right one on the left,
Lance Mason, the tight end motions to the left, hand
off kid Jachamelly room to the left across the fifty
to the forty five yard lineon caid Yachamelli pops his
way inside the forty five of Miami. First down, Wisconsin
to the RedHawks forty four, or you.

Speaker 5 (52:18):
Just hand the ball off and you run.

Speaker 10 (52:19):
A really nice job by Renfrow of being able to
get up from his center position and he was able
to wall off the inside linebacker and that gave Jachamelly
all the room that he needed to pick up that
first down.

Speaker 5 (52:31):
So we've seen this a bunch now on both sides.

Speaker 10 (52:34):
Third and five plus third and six, third and seven there,
and you think pass keeping everybody off balance, running it,
picking up the first down.

Speaker 6 (52:41):
Ten minutes left, first half, three nothing. Wisconsin play fake
Edwards on first and ten at the Miami forty four,
Edwards winds up, throws it deep down the middle Anthony
and he over shotting five yards deep of the end
zone incomplete. Proud thought there was early contact. Yeah again
the penalty flag thrown looked like Tony Coleman on the

(53:01):
coverage and you've got the hand on him a little
not a ton there. Really, I don't do you think.

Speaker 10 (53:06):
Mark, No, I do not think that should have The
one down here was much I thought more egregious.

Speaker 5 (53:11):
Down in the end zone. On the other side here.

Speaker 10 (53:13):
Edwards stayed in there and I mean he took a
shot almost putting it up there is just a little
grab did slow Vinie Anthony down?

Speaker 5 (53:20):
He wanted a flag. I don't mind that not being
a call.

Speaker 6 (53:23):
It seemed like a good no call for the forty
four of Miami's second down and the hand off to
the motion man Tyrell Henry trying to bend it back
to his left and Miami is all over it. Only
a couple of yards there, and.

Speaker 5 (53:36):
It's the quarterback.

Speaker 6 (53:37):
Billy Edwards is down and he has just spiked his helmets.
Oh you've got to be kidding.

Speaker 10 (53:46):
And all that was it was a little bit of
a playfake to the right, and it looked as if
as he was carrying his fake out just a little
bit of a buckle and you never want to see
that non contact stuff. Let's just hope Billy's going to
be all right.

Speaker 6 (54:00):
As the athletic trainers take a look. Let's pause ten
seconds for station identification, ten for an ID. This is
Badger football from.

Speaker 4 (54:08):
Learfield, Madison's home for the Badgers.

Speaker 34 (54:11):
One point five OUIVAFF Sucks City Madison and News Talk
thirteen ten WIBA Madison.

Speaker 6 (54:20):
Billy Edwards is up walking on his zone, a little limp,
but walking on his own. They'll continue to look at
him as Danny O'Neill, the sophomore from Indianapolis transferred from
San Diego State. He was a starter out their last season,
threw for close to twenty two hundred yards. Has won
the backup job and right now he is QB one,

(54:45):
at least for the time being. It is third down
and eight viscount third and seven. Actually we'll call it
just shy of the forty one yard line of Miami
nine forty four left in the first half. Three nothing, Wisconsin.

Speaker 10 (54:58):
This is just what you want as a backup quarterback. Hey,
it's third and eight. Let's go make a play.

Speaker 6 (55:05):
Jackson Acre in motion, lines up winging the left, trips
to the rights. Yachamelly now breaks in motion to the left,
shotgun stamp O'Neill looking, floats it out right side. It's
caught by Keckahuna at the thirty six yard line of Miami.
Silas walters on the coverage, and it's now fourth down
and two from the thirty six and the offense days

(55:26):
out there for Wisconsin.

Speaker 10 (55:29):
I love that O'Neil did it, really nice job, just
kind of stand in the pocket understanding what the coverage was,
took the easy throw, made it. Now you set yourself
up to give yourself an opportunity to go for it
over a fourth.

Speaker 6 (55:39):
And two the Badgers last year, we're twelve out of
twenty going forward on fourth down. Jackson Acre, the fullback,
Kaye Jacamelli the tailback, straight eye formation, double wide to the left.
Now they'll shift O'Neill in the shotgun. Yakamelly too is
right aker, one of three receivers. Now left side of
the formation, snap to O'Neil pulls it down, wants to
run for the first down. Danny O'Neill either two. He

(56:03):
got three to the thirty three yard line of Miami
first in ten. Wisconsin.

Speaker 5 (56:08):
Love that that was the case.

Speaker 10 (56:09):
Where you spread that out, you get a chance to
see if you have a light box you run the
quarterback draw O'Neil did a really nice job of avoiding
the one guy that could have brought him down, slithered
his way and picked it up with his feet.

Speaker 5 (56:23):
Very nice start here for O'Neill.

Speaker 6 (56:25):
Eight twenty in counting left in the half three nothing Wisconsin.
Danny O'Neill in for the injured Billy Edwards. O'Neill under center,
single back offense, dry and Drew Prie. The running back
Jaydon Ballard wide to the left. Severled wide to the
right as well. Here's the hand off. Du Pree room
up the middle inside the thirty yard line, pops his
way to the twenty sixth Eli Blakey on the tackle,

(56:45):
a gain of seven for Derry and Dupree.

Speaker 10 (56:48):
Loved the urgency with Dupree there, didn't even hesitate at all,
was able to just hard zone playoff to the left,
just took it right off of the right tackle. Malman
got north and south and picked up a hard seven yards.

Speaker 6 (57:03):
To Pre, the sophomore out of Chicago, appeared in eleven
games a year ago. Good past catching ability. As the
Badgers come out of the huddle, they go single file,
and now they go ahead and shift the Pre remains
the lone running back double wide to the right for
the twenty six yard line, Miami territory. O'Neil a playfake
deep drop under pressure and get sacked and about the

(57:24):
forty yard line, Adam Trick gets home. They'll mark at
the forty of Miami. Is Trick with a clean path
to the quarterback. And now it is third down and seventeen.
Actually they'll mark at the thirty eight of Miami, so
it's third and fifteen.

Speaker 10 (57:42):
Trick ended up getting there, but there was all kinds
of leakage there, and the interior part ran a little
bit of a cross dog and all kinds of pressure
in the.

Speaker 6 (57:50):
Backfield, Patrick, what do you got?

Speaker 11 (57:52):
Billy Edwards is out of the UW Health Sports Medicine
tent right now, doesn't have his helmet, but he's walking
around trying to put pressure on that leg, and it
looks like maybe they're going to take him into the
locker room at the moment.

Speaker 6 (58:03):
All right, thank you for the update. Double wide to
the right, Bennie Anthony motions left. O'Neil has play has
stopped a penalty marker at delay a game here the
play clock expired, so again you got Danny O'Neill coming
in is on this possession. Billy Edwards was shaken up
and they marked it down to forty three. Well, Billy

(58:28):
Edwards right now making his way up the tunnel into
the Wisconsin locker room, walking in not really much of
a limp, but obviously they want to take a good
long look at him. And we'll keep you update as
updated as warrants. At three receivers left, one on the right,
O'Neil back to throw on third and long shuffles right,

(58:49):
moves to his left till pull it down and run.
It's inside the forty yard line and is thrown down
by Adam Trick at the thirty seven of Miami, so
it'll be a fourth down and fourteen pull the back
coming up on six minutes left and a half three
nothing Wisconsin.

Speaker 10 (59:04):
O'Neil did a good job there of not trying to
force anything. You're always a little bit nervous when you
have someone it's not the one coming in when it's
a long down and distance. It was very cautious with
the football there. Took what he could get. And now
sitting Wisconsin up looks like in punt formation.

Speaker 6 (59:19):
Atticas Bertram's with a chance to pin Miami deep line
of scrimmage of the red Hawks thirty seven yard line line.
Old billups Williams is deep standing at the red Hawks
seven yard line, and now Miami will take a time out.
Is the red Hawks a little slow with their sub pattern?

The Night's game is brought to you by a Clearybuilding

It was closed Paul looked like it broke the plane.
So the RedHawks will be starting at their twenty yards line.
Five twenty three left in the half, three nothing, Wisconsin
leading the Miami RedHawks.

Speaker 10 (01:05:05):
And that was what I was trying to say right
before we went to break, is it's great you want
to pin guys down at the three inch line or
whatever it is, but the one yard line is not
bad either. There there was space there. I think Vinny
got a little greedy, and unfortunately it looks as if
the ball did cross the plane and they're ruining it.
So Miami starts at the twenty instead of at the one.

Speaker 6 (01:05:25):
So a little more room, a lot more room for
Takwan Finn in this Miami offense, lot left slot right,
empty backfield on first in ten, Miami at its own
twenty yard line. Now Kenny Tracy, who was slot left,
motions into the backfield. Ryan Shane the tight end winging
the right side riding it, giving it to Tracy, bangs
it straight ahead up to the twenty four yard line,

(01:05:47):
goes Tracy. Ar Old Peterson among those in there for
Wisconsin eight four check it out, and six for the
Red Hawks.

Speaker 10 (01:05:56):
Really impressive with the patients of waiting and waiting and
riding that foot. Now, that's great when it works, but
that also is you're just letting opportunities to strip that ball.

Speaker 6 (01:06:08):
Same formation, two receivers left, two receivers right. You got
Kenny Tracy the running back slot to the left. Layclock
is at ten. As Tracy comes into the backfield, we'll
line up to the right of Takwan Finn, the quarterback.
Malayclock is it five? Snap to Finn, he'll ride it,
gives it to Tracy, and he'll move the stack across
the thirty yard lineup the left side. Hash marks you're

(01:06:30):
the thirty three. He's a pretty powerful guy. This Kenny Tracy.
By the way, about two hundred and thirty pounds. Veteran
senior out of Indianapolis. Jordan Brunson, another running back, is
about two thirty. They've got some big dudes back there.

Speaker 10 (01:06:45):
You saw the pressure that that puts on Sebastian Cheeks,
who's the left end off the right tackle. You have
to wait because you can't let Finn get outside. He
holds it, holds it and that doesn't allow him to
pinch down and make the tackle on the running.

Speaker 6 (01:06:56):
Back from the thirty three of Miami first and ten.
When the Tracy motions they fake the handoff to them,
they'll throw it to them across the thirty yard line
to the thirty five and hammered down Jamior Latimer getting
in there with help of the thirty eight yard line
of Miami gain of five Vlatimer a transfer from Jacksonville State,

(01:07:18):
part of that Wisconsin secondary market, closer to the thirty
nine of Miami. So a second down and four plus
change three thirty seven in counting left and a half
three nothing Wisconsin slot right slot lefts in the Red
Hawks thirty nine. Finn quick shot right side, caught driven

(01:07:39):
down as the pass not secured by Cole Weaver, and
that was a million O. A guard, red shirt freshman
corner out of Philadelphia with a big time head to
break up the pass.

Speaker 5 (01:07:52):
Really good pressure up front.

Speaker 10 (01:07:53):
That ball came out quick and it needed to, and
a guard just he went saw and pounced and drilled
drill and that.

Speaker 5 (01:08:02):
Was it, Paul, that would have been caught. We ever
had it, Agart said, not today.

Speaker 6 (01:08:06):
Third down in four Miami in its own thirty nine
yard line, three twenty five left of the half, three
nothing wisconsined to Nathaniel Vekos forty two yard field goal,
the only scoring so far. Shotgun snapped the Finn. Badger's
sending for Finn flushed right, darks left and.

Speaker 2 (01:08:24):
Mason Riger gets home down goest Finn been in the
thirty yard line of Miami as Mason Riger comes off
the edge to make a big.

Speaker 10 (01:08:35):
Play, and that was not your typical He ended up
beating almost the double team and you have to keep contained,
but then you also still go make a play. Ryger
was all over the place, they're flying around. Was able
to keep it and get him down on the ground.
That has to feel great, or Ryger.

Speaker 6 (01:08:52):

cheer on the Badgers. Two minutes thirty five seconds left
in the first half, which Concert three Miami Nothing Billy
Edwards shaken up earlier in this second quarter, Danny O'Neill
finished the last possession, completed the one pass he was
able to throw. So now he's a CAG veteran of

(01:11:06):
Big ten football. So eventually he started last year at
San Diego State at good Numbers, was honorable mention All
Mountain West, and now he steps in here at Camp
Randall Stadium and it's his gig for the time being.

Speaker 5 (01:11:19):
It's time to go.

Speaker 10 (01:11:20):
And you you know, I joked, because you get thrown
into the mix on a third down and then you
have to try to go and make plays and you
get you get put out there and you, you got reps,
you had a good battle throughout training camp, and now
you get this opportunity and you have you have all
the all the chances to make plays and really gain

(01:11:42):
confidence in your teammates when when when Edwards goes down,
now it's up to you to go make plays.

Speaker 6 (01:11:47):
Dylan Jones back in there for Wisconsin at running back.
Good time for him to bust loose perhaps the twenty
five yard line of Wisconsin. First intent to receiver right
Tutch Kickohoa. One of emotions to the left. O'Neill back
to throw, looking scams, pressured throws right side, caught by
Dylan Jones. I thin he gets a whipped to the

(01:12:09):
turf right away by Silas Walters after twenty six yard
line gain of one second and nine for the Badgers
with two twenty in counting left of the first half.

Speaker 10 (01:12:18):
I love the fact that Jeff Grimes feels confident here.
It's a potentially you're in that two minute zone. You
want to get a big play. You're gonna run this
thing down to the two minute warning. But you're throwing
the football right off the jump here. That shows that
you have a little bit of trust.

Speaker 6 (01:12:32):
Two zero five in counting. Let's see if they run
a play here. It looks like the answer is no
is We'll get to the two minute timeouts and we'll
keep it here. Two minutes left in the first half,
it remains three nothing, Wisconsin leading Miami.

Speaker 5 (01:12:46):
I forgot my apologies, I said warning.

Speaker 10 (01:12:49):
I know there's a big difference in vernacular between college
and pro, but this is a spot here now at
second and nine. It's a three point game, and you
know you want to go down and get points. And
I always think that first down play is critical because
you get the ball roll and you get momentum, and once.

Speaker 5 (01:13:08):
You can get that first first down, all of a sudden, the.

Speaker 10 (01:13:10):
Defense is a little bit on its heels and you
have the full array to do what you want. You
have your timeouts, you're in a position here, but obviously
second and nine.

Speaker 5 (01:13:19):
You need to get some positive yard to cheer.

Speaker 6 (01:13:23):
And the plus side, Wisconsin has held Miami to fifty
one yards of offense. You get that Mason riger sack,
and I to see if Wisconsin can use that to
kickstart this offense. Even with Billy Edwards being looked at.
You're the locker room.

Speaker 10 (01:13:41):
And I think there's always you know, Lord knows, we
hear the word complimentary football a lot. And this is
the complementary side of it, because you come into this game.

Speaker 5 (01:13:52):
With an idea of how it's going to go, and
then all.

Speaker 10 (01:13:53):
Of a sudden something happens, and I think everybody the
defensive side, the special teams will say, all right, well,
our starting quarterback is going to miss a little time
here in this game.

Speaker 5 (01:14:05):
We need to pick up our end of the donkey
a little bit.

Speaker 10 (01:14:07):
And you saw that with what Raiger was able to
do making a big play getting the football back for
your offense. Try to get some points here before the
end of the half.

Speaker 6 (01:14:16):
The Badgers have all three of their timeouts available, Miami
has two three nothing Wisconsant with two minutes left in
the second quarter. It'll be a second down and nine
for the Badgers at their twenty six yard line.

Speaker 10 (01:14:31):
I'm gonna is Romo still kind of the Aroma Stramas
or no stre Ramis, or you feel this is one
of those places where you like the screen pass, you
like that screenplay.

Speaker 5 (01:14:43):
It's an easy throw.

Speaker 10 (01:14:45):
You're thinking Miami is gonna get aggressive because they're probably
thinking a backup quarterback, let's get it let's be a
good time.

Speaker 6 (01:14:50):
For that, Okay, Kahuna and Bennie Anthony to the left,
Jayden Ballard to the right, Dylan Jones the running back,
shotgun staf O'Neill hand off Dylan Jones over the right side,
and he will search his way near the thirty yard line.
Get stormed back there. Two or three RedHawks in there,
Elie Blakey among them. They'll bark at the thirty third

(01:15:12):
down and five for Wisconsin with a minute forty four
in counting left in the half.

Speaker 10 (01:15:16):
So there you're thinking about, all right, I don't want
to have an incomplete pass. Let's keep the clock running
so that if we don't convert this third and five,
you're gonna give Miami less time.

Speaker 5 (01:15:25):
And if you do, you still.

Speaker 10 (01:15:26):
If you pick this up and get it, you're still
gonna have plenty of time to go down and try
to get points.

Speaker 6 (01:15:30):
True freshman Eugene Hilton in there, one of three receivers
to the left shotgun formation. O'Neil takes the stamp four
a man rush from Miami. O'Neil in trouble and sacked
down of the twenty yard line. This here Washington hitting
home another sack given up by this Wisconsin offense, and

(01:15:51):
maybe now the RedHawks will burn a time out with
a minute seventeen left in the first half, and that
would be their second time out, so one left for Miami.
The Badgers will be punting line of scrimmage their twenty
one yard line.

Speaker 5 (01:16:08):
Yeah, I'm in. A screen pass would have been a
really nice.

Speaker 10 (01:16:11):
Now you need to, you know, try to make things
as simple as you can, because yes, you're wrapped, and
you want Danie O'Neil to feel good and confident about
what you're doing, and you want to try and pick
it up there. Give Miami credit, they got some pressure
on him and are going to get the football back here,
forced to at fourth at fourteenth. So Miami's defense has,

(01:16:31):
you know, other than that one long drive, they've vowed
up and done a nice job of getting pressure. Regardless
of who's been quarterback, They've been able to make things
a little bit uncomfortable and holding wisconsinin check.

Speaker 6 (01:16:43):
Linel billups Williams deep. You're the red Hawks thirty seven
yard line line of scrimmage in the Wisconsin twenty one
snapped to Atticus Bertram's penalty markers fly. The kick is away,
drifting to his left as billups Williams H's inside the
thirty yard line and dribbles out of bounds the twenty
five of the far side. I will check the penalty.

(01:17:04):
One O eight left in the first half. That was
a fifty four yard punt that's gonna be against Miami.
I believe here the work trims with a good punt
there he went out of bounds with the twenty five
yard line of Miami. Here's a call.

Speaker 13 (01:17:22):
Offside kicking team number eighty four that police decline it's
first down.

Speaker 6 (01:17:27):
So Miami has one O eight left and the half
one time out available starting at the RedHawks twenty five
yard line. Three nothing, Wisconsin, You're late in quarter number.

Speaker 10 (01:17:36):
Two and I'm You're always intrigued and you It says
a lot about your football team and the confidence you
have is how you approach these scenarios.

Speaker 5 (01:17:45):
And Miami, obviously they feel good.

Speaker 10 (01:17:48):
It's a three point game with a minute eight left
in the first They want to keep this game close.
How are you going to attack this last minute eight
of this half?

Speaker 6 (01:17:58):
Three receivers right one on the lefts to Kwan Finn
of the Miami offense, ready to have at its shotgun
staff to Finn. Badgers rush for Finn with time shoots
it over the middle, pass caught. I crossed the forty
yard line and up near the forty five. That was
Cole Weaver on the receiving end of the forty five

(01:18:18):
of Miami. Lock stops as they moved the sticks. One
oh one left in the half, a.

Speaker 10 (01:18:22):
Tough throw into his own coverage. Wisconsin had three guys
around Weaver. Finn threw a really nice high ball. Weaver
went up, high pointed it and was able to pick
up the first.

Speaker 6 (01:18:31):
Down fifty five seconds left in the half. Low shotgun staffed,
fielded by Finn, backside pressure hit as he throws incomplete,
tended for cam Perry tacking Curtis on the coverage. The
Badgers got heat on the quarterback second and ten sos
Maason Reiger getting in there on the quarterback of the
Miami forty five second and ten with fifty seconds left

(01:18:53):
in the first half.

Speaker 10 (01:18:54):
Did a really nice job beating the left tackle, just
getting a soft edge and going through Rager.

Speaker 5 (01:18:59):
Having a real good first half of football.

Speaker 6 (01:19:02):
Three receivers left, two receivers right, empty backfield snap the
Finn back to throw. It's away from Riger, this time
running left. Peterson in pursuit, diving across the fifty is
da kwon. Finn. Peterson is there to finish up gain
of six. Third and four Miami at the Badger forty nine.
Clock continues to run thirty five seconds left in the half.

Speaker 10 (01:19:22):
Now, Raiger there did a really nice job of getting
up the field. Finn was able to avoid him and
able to go pick up a quick five or six
set up a third.

Speaker 6 (01:19:30):
Fourth twenty four seconds in counting left in the half.
Third down in four of Miami at the Wisconsin forty nine.
Finn takes a snap back to throw under pressure, steps up,
cuts to his left. He'll throw left side high passing
complete flagged down in the secondary passing intended for Dion
Colsey the transfer from Notre Dame. They're pointing to Miami.

Speaker 5 (01:19:51):
Here, oh pi, A lit'll push off. I think.

Speaker 6 (01:19:55):
Here's a call.

Speaker 13 (01:20:04):
Eventually past interference off at number four fifteen yard Tilly
to the previous spot.

Speaker 5 (01:20:09):
It's third down.

Speaker 6 (01:20:10):
Posey played four years at Notre Dame, appeared in forty
four games course the Irish went all the way to
the National Championship game. With his statistics were modest at
Notre Dame Senior out of Georgia going to Miami.

Speaker 10 (01:20:27):
I love watching opposing coaches reactions to that. That was
Polesey pushed off and that gave him all the separation.

Speaker 6 (01:20:35):
That old Martin was not happy.

Speaker 5 (01:20:37):
How about that call?

Speaker 6 (01:20:38):
Fourteen seconds left in the half. It's now third down
to nineteen, Miami back at its thirty six yard line.
Three receivers left, one on the right. He high snapped
the fin under pressure.

Speaker 2 (01:20:50):
Darryl Peterson gets him be inside the thirty yard.

Speaker 6 (01:20:53):
Lot of Miami. As though Wisconsin defense gonna it cranked
up a timeout take it with seven seconds left in
the half, Badger's using good time.

Speaker 10 (01:21:03):
Out and Peterson over the left guard there does a
great job of just beating him with a quick handswipe
cut around.

Speaker 5 (01:21:11):
You know what, riger was there.

Speaker 10 (01:21:12):
There were two or three different Wisconsin Badgers in the backfield,
but Darryl Peterson does a really nice job beating the
guard handswipe around, got there quickly, brought him down to
the ground, and we're gonna end up getting out of
here without giving up any points.

Speaker 6 (01:21:26):
One team back on Spenton has been good here in
this first half. Tyrrell Henry deep at the Wisconsin thirty
seven seconds left in the first half. Three nothing. Wisconsin
step back and the kick is away Henry. We'll let
it hit inside the thirty yard line, as will wrap
up the first half. These the Red Hawks will surround

(01:21:50):
it now kill it at the twenty five yard line.
So the Wisconsin defense has been outstanding. Concerned obviously about
Wisconsin quarterback Billy Edwards. The Wisconsin offense us where a
brief time showed rhythm, but only brief just three points
to show for the first two quarters of was Potowatami

Halftime Show.

Speaker 28 (01:25:17):
And our American Family Insurance Halftime Show goods underway. At
the break it is Wisconsin three and Miami nothing. But
the story of the game is on the third possession
of the game, third offensive possession of the game for Wisconsin,
Philly Edwards Junior on a handoff carrying out a fake

(01:25:39):
after handing it off, had a non contact injury. He
went down favoring his left leg and has left the game.
Went into the tent and then up into the locker room.
His return is questionable with a lower body injury. That's
the official report from Wisconsin. So Danny O'Neill came in

(01:26:00):
and in relief, he has gone two for two in
the half for six yards. Also took a couple of
sacks in that first half. So the snake bit in
nature of Wisconsin at the quarterback position, Tyler van Dijke
out a year ago in the game against Alabama two
years ago was Tanner Mordecai, who missed a number of

(01:26:21):
games with a broken hand. So this one is not
gone as expected. On offense and the bigger concern is
Billy Edwards Junior.

Speaker 7 (01:26:29):
On defense, Wisconsin has been very good.

Speaker 28 (01:26:32):
They've limited Miami to sixty nine total yards forty one
of the year.

Speaker 7 (01:26:36):
It's twenty eight on the ground and.

Speaker 28 (01:26:38):
Just four first downs in the half and obviously no points.
Throwing a shoutout at the break, and that is the story.
As we are in halftime at Camp Randall Stadium. It's
the Badgers three and Miami nothing. Our American Family Insurance

Mike Keller bag with you at halftime at Camp Randles Stadium,
Wisconsin leeds Miami, Ohio by three, three to nothing at
the half and again. The big story here is that
Billy Edwards left on the third offensive series of the
first half a non contact injury, went down favoring his
left leg.

Speaker 7 (01:30:11):
His return is questionable.

Speaker 28 (01:30:13):
Let's check around on the scoreboard update presented by Ho
Chuck Gaming Madison and Ho Chunk Gaming Wisconsin, Dell's Proud Casino,
partners of UW Athletics. Earlier tonight in the Big Ten,
Rutgers held on Ohio had come back to tie a
game that game rather in Piscataway at thirty one. All
Rutgers then kicked a field goal in the fourth quarter

(01:30:34):
and that's the final score. The Scarlet Knight beat Ohio
thirty four to thirty one in Piscataway. Going on right now,
almost at the half, Nebraska leads at Cincinnati by account
of twelve to three, just eleven seconds remaining in the
first half. In that one, I believe Nebraska has just

(01:30:54):
scored and I guess that's what made it twelve to
three pending the extra point.

Speaker 7 (01:30:59):
That's what's going on there.

Speaker 28 (01:31:01):
Dylan Ryola thirteen of nineteen one hundred and twenty one
yards and a touchdown in that one as they go
almost to the half, Minnesota leads against Buffalo at TCF
Banks Stadium in Minneapolis. It is thirteen to ten. Minnesota
leads that one. Lindsay their quarterback fifteen of twenty nine
for one hundred and ninety nine yards and a touchdown.

(01:31:21):
So far in that one, the Gophers lead thirteen to ten.
The big game is one that everybody's going to be
paying attention to on Saturday. Top rated team in the country,
Texas is going to be at the Horseshoe in Columbus

Speaker 28 (01:34:16):
Bill Schmid is host of our Batcher postgame show on
the network and then locally along with Lance Allen and Billy.
Obviously the story of the first half there's a bigger
game story, But the story that everybody's talking about right
now is Billy Edwards going to the locker room and
questionable to return on a non contact injury. And you
and I were both talking about it. He spiked the

(01:34:37):
helmet almost immediately. Usually the player knows.

Speaker 55 (01:34:41):
Mike, your stomach just turns when you see a situation
like that, and Luke has talked about it in the
entire build up to tonight, which is a banner night.
I mean, the lights are phenomenal. You'd like to light
up the scoreboard a little bit more and it would help.
Maybe you have your transfer quarterback, who is your captain
here tonight, right, I mean he just joined the program
and he's a captain on Night one. It shows what

(01:35:03):
he's meant to the group. And you could see the
reaction on the sideline was not frustration. It's it's worry
for their buddy. However, you quickly have to adjust and
it you know, you get slapped in the face with
this reality of the game and the mortality of a
football life. Very quickly this Badger program has had it

(01:35:24):
happen now potentially three times in three years. You know
how to adjust everybody else. It seems like the defense
has answered the belt.

Speaker 28 (01:35:31):
Let's talk about the plus side, and that is that defense.
They have held Miami to just sixty nine first half yards,
forty one in the air, twenty eight on the ground,
and just four first downs. And that beef your unit
up front, Dakwan finn Is. He's tricky and they have
held their own.

Speaker 55 (01:35:46):
Well, and he's going to be able to run a
lot of the read options stuff. He's trying to i
in the MAC to a lot of success. But the
speed that the Badgers seem to have right now laterally
has been the big part of it. That beef upfront though,
oh my goodness, Lane on that first series, the push
back into the backfield to allow Sebastian Chieks to come
back around and make a couple of sacks Mason Rager

(01:36:08):
has looked good. They've been able to get back there.
But it feels like a night where the defense is
gonna have to do a ton, So.

Speaker 28 (01:36:14):
Now they're gonna have to adjust. You just assume in
prep for Game one that the reps this last week
once game install went were almost all Billy Edwards. So
Danny O'Neill, who was a starter last year at San
Diego State, he's not unused unusual to this circumstance, however,
thrust in the middle and he's gonna have to make
halftime adjustments, left to do something.

Speaker 55 (01:36:34):
Yeah, in front of seventy five thousand, a little bit
different than maybe at San Diego State. But you can
tell that there's good stuff there. There's ability. You got
to lean in on the rest of the playmakers, though
I thought the offensive line at times was able to
open up some sizable holes.

Speaker 5 (01:36:48):
Let's also not.

Speaker 55 (01:36:49):
Bury another part of the lead here, Mike. There was
a third and one full back dive. Yes, does feel
like the motion. Sorry I missed that might be fully
back because I know the people online we're very excited
about it.

Now with the call of the second half. Jeers the
voice of the Dgers.

Speaker 6 (01:40:25):
Matt Loo pay nothing. Wisconsin leads Miami. As we check
out some of the first half stats, the Badger defense
has been really good. Miami was just sixty nine yards
of offense. Wisconsin has done a very good job against
a talented quarterback to Kwan Finn four of eight through
the air forty one yards. He can also run it,
but he hasn't been able to get free here tonight

(01:40:46):
eight totes seven yards. He was sacked a couple times.
Mason Ryger got him and Darryl Peterson as well. Dylan
Jones seven carries thirty yards to lead the way for Wisconsin.
Billy Edwards before he got banged up in the second
quarter six of thirteen for sixty eight yards. Danny O'Neill
two out of two. Both teams have recorded a couple

(01:41:07):
of sacks. Jaden Ballerd, tretch Kekahuna, Dylan Jones, each with
a couple of catches. Jones, of course out of the backfield.
Cole Weaver two catches for thirty yards to lead the
way for Miami. The Badgers just one hundred and thirty
six yards of offense through the first half of play.
Penalties to a piece ten yards total for Wisconsin, twenty

(01:41:29):
five for Miami. Third downs Badgers three of eight, RedHawks
of five three nothing. Wisconsin leads Miami. As we get
ready for the second half, I mentioned Billy Edwards went
down in the second quarter. As we'll go down to
the sidelines, Patrick Kerb, what else is you able to
tell us about Billy Edwards right now?

Speaker 11 (01:41:48):
Well, as you can imagine, Billy spent halftime in the
training room getting worked out by the sports medicine staff,
I can confirm what we fear is that he won't
return in.

Speaker 12 (01:41:57):
The second half of this game.

Speaker 11 (01:41:58):
He is going to come out to the side, I
was told, but he will be in street close for
the second half. But he wanted to be able to
be on the sidelines for his team in the second half. So,
like it's been talked about at halftime, So this is
going to be Danny O'Neil's show this second half. What
we don't know is the extent of Billy Edwards's injury
at this time. That'll be a wait and see and
hope for the best.

Speaker 6 (01:42:18):
All right, Patrick, thank you, And so an early test
for Wisconsin. We you know, we talked about, you know,
the the shift in mentality, and you know this team
has a point to prove, and so now how do
you handle it when something bad happens in the first
half of your first game. It's a major test for
this Wisconsin proger and.

Speaker 10 (01:42:37):
You lean on your strengths and there is no doubt
that the strength of this football team is going to
need to go.

Speaker 5 (01:42:43):
Up front the in the running game. And you've heard
that this.

Speaker 10 (01:42:47):
Running back room the most competitive room, a talented room. Well,
you're gonna get leaned on here in this second half
of football with Dani O'Neil as your quarterback. And now
it's up to the boys up front and get the
run game going. It's gonna make Danny's job a heck
of a lot easier in this second half.

Speaker 6 (01:43:02):
Keenan McLoughlin will kick off for Miami, Vinnie Anthony and
Cade Jacamelli deep four Wisconsin Badgers will go right to left,
south to north at Camp Randall kick is away and
Anthony will let it sail over his head, hits into
and out of the end zone for a touchback. Second
half underway is Wisconsin will start at its twenty five

(01:43:23):
yard line.

Speaker 5 (01:43:23):
And we've seen some good things.

Speaker 10 (01:43:25):
I know that with an injury, there's kind of had
the air out of the balloon, a really good kind
of Wisconsin drive.

Speaker 5 (01:43:33):
And then there's just been some inconsistency.

Speaker 10 (01:43:35):
We've seen, you know, a loose play here and there,
a penalty and you put yourself.

Speaker 5 (01:43:40):
In tough spots.

Speaker 10 (01:43:41):
Now you're back, new half, new half of football. Get
back to doing what we did on that first On
that second drive of the game.

Speaker 6 (01:43:47):
Same old line for Wisconsin, Jake went thro the center,
Emerson Mandel, Joe brun Of the guards, Riley Maulman, Davis
Heinsen are the tackles. Grant Steck the tight end. Start's
up winging the right side on first down on rolls right,
throws right, caught across the thirty yard line and out
of alas goes Chris Brooks at the thirty four on
a gain of nine.

Speaker 10 (01:44:08):
And I love that you have a quarter, but you're
wanting to get some rhythm established and you don't want
it just to be step back, drop back throw five
step seven step, get out of the pocket, make some
easy throws on first down.

Speaker 5 (01:44:21):
That was what we were able to dial up right there.

Speaker 6 (01:44:24):
Second catch of the game for Brooks. He came in
with one career catch. That was last year at Nebraska.
O'Neil unders center Dylan Jones. The running back toss left side.
Here comes Jones and he gets whacked by this year
Washington behind the line of scrimmage. Down goes Jones at
the thirty three yard line on a loss of one.

(01:44:44):
Third down and two.

Speaker 10 (01:44:45):
Okay, pulled Heinzen out there, and unfortunately Miami I ohau
did a really good job of setting the edge and
you turned Dylan Jones back in and you let Miami
kind of collapse down and force this third and two.

Speaker 6 (01:44:57):
Mentioned the Badgers three out of eight on third down
of the first half. They have a third and two.
Now O'Neill back under center, Jones and the singles setback
and O'Neil gives it the Jones off the left side
fights his way for a first down across the thirty five,
across the forty to the forty two yard line, and
man Miami thought that it had Dylan Jones at the

(01:45:18):
point of attack and Jones is able to wrestle his
way to a first down.

Speaker 5 (01:45:23):
Yeah, you said it. I did not think he had it.

Speaker 10 (01:45:26):
That Miami did a pretty good job of getting some penetration.
That was Dylan Jones saying I'm not gonna get stopped here.
I'm gonna continue to keep my legs churning, not gonna
let one guy bring me down, and that if this
drive goes down and gets points, remember that third and
two run.

Speaker 6 (01:45:39):
Jayden Ballard, tretch, Gecko Hooda to the right, Anthony to
the left, quick shot left side Anthony ketches across the
forty five across the fifty forty five out side forty
thirty five thirty Anthony pushed out of bounds inside the
thirty yard line of Miami. Bell mark of the twenty
seven of the RedHawks. Real quick game, pitch and catch
as the badger's in business here early in.

Speaker 10 (01:45:58):
The third quarter, and that so it's just you get
the ball in your best player's hands and Vine Anthony
obviously one of those guys that was just as easy
a pitch and catch, and then just out running Miami's
defensive back Stiff.

Speaker 5 (01:46:10):
Farming, picking up a couple x yards. Big play, first down.

Speaker 6 (01:46:13):
Gain of thirty one, two minutes gone by third quarter
three nothing Wisconsin, Sorry. Rel Henry comes out wide to
the rights, s Ballard tight to the left, O'Neil in
the shotgun, Dylan Jones to his left in the RedHawks
twenty seven yard line. O'Neil again to throw, shoots it
to the right that's caught by Henry inside the twenty
yard line. Checking it outs. We're the seventeen close to

(01:46:34):
a first down right at the marker, which is the
seventeen of Miami.

Speaker 58 (01:46:40):
And.

Speaker 6 (01:46:42):
It is a first down. Four Wisconsin Badgers into the
case ihred Zone. Visit CASEIH dot com slash Badgers.

Speaker 10 (01:46:51):
Really love what Grimes' approach here is. You would think,
just run the football first down. You're gonna get softer coverage,
you're gonna get easier throw, You're gonna help build O'Neill's
confidence up.

Speaker 5 (01:47:02):
That's what we've seen that first down so far.

Speaker 6 (01:47:04):
Kad Jacamelli in the backfield, Dyrrell Henry in motion right
to left shotgunstamp, and around here comes Treutch Kakahuna bending
right and he gets nabbed at the line of scrimmage.
Maybe defends it. Well, nothing doing there. Second down and
ten for the RedHawks seventeen yard line.

Speaker 10 (01:47:21):
I try to get a little cute there and you
end up running a jet sweep reverse and try to
get Miami's aggressiveness to play against it. But they did
a pretty good job of staying home and not allowing anything,
not allowing Kekehuna to get out on the edge, and
no gain for Wisconsin.

Speaker 6 (01:47:37):
Urbin ANDNRU veteran linebacker on the tackle. Second and ten,
Wisconsin at the Miami seventeen yard line. Lance Mason tied
in the right side, Jackson Aker wing on the left
pistol formation. Now Eugene Hilton in motion left to right.
O'Neil a little spin move back to throw, steps up,
pressured and fights his way just back to the line
of scrimmage. And that's it. Third down four Wisconsin. Brock

(01:48:02):
Rice the defensive line in there to make the play.

Speaker 10 (01:48:06):
A little reverse pivot out what Wiscon's was hoping, you sell.

Speaker 5 (01:48:09):
Everything to the right.

Speaker 10 (01:48:10):
Yet Hilton going right, Yacamelli going right. It looked like
O'Neil wanted to throw back left. Smart job there of
not trying to force anything, just tuck the ball down
and go live for another play.

Speaker 6 (01:48:22):
Third and ten, Wisconsin at the Miami seventeen yard line.
Two receivers right, two receivers left, Yoacamelli the running back,
Lance Mason the tight end, motions right and off Yacamelly
off the right side inside the fifteen yard line. Kage
Jachamelly surges his way to the ten on a game
of seven. It's fourth down and three four. Wisconsin were

(01:48:45):
four and a half minutes into the third quarter, it's
three nothing Wisconsin, and the Badgers keep the offense out
there on fourth and three at the Miami ten yard line.

Speaker 5 (01:48:56):
Thinking they're third and ten.

Speaker 10 (01:48:58):
You're gonna run the ball, very conservative, but what you
did understanding if you picked up five or six yards,
you're gonna position yourself to go for it on fourth
on and here you have to. If you're Miami, it's
fourth and three. Cadence, you're thinking, you're thinking, Cadence here.

Speaker 6 (01:49:13):
If you're Miami, play clock is at five and now
they're gonna go ahead and take a time out as
the Badgers will burn their first time out of the
second half. Ten oh five left of the third period,
and we I believe will go ahead and take a break.

I'm fifty nine left of the third quarter. It remains
three nothing. Wisconsint was the Badger's turned back at D
zone interception Silas walters on fourth to three. Red Hawks
take over at their twenty yard line. As we check
it again with Patrick Kirk.

Speaker 11 (01:54:59):
Everybody in the stadium still wondering about Billy Edwards, I'm sure.
And he's back now on the sidelines in an all
black Wisconsin tracksuit here, and he came out just before
that fourth down snap actually and got in the huddle
while they were at that time out and kind of
tapped Danny one on the head And as they were
breaking the huddle looked like you said a few words too,
So you know that he will still wants to be

(01:55:19):
that leader.

Speaker 12 (01:55:20):
That this club has known him to be already in camp.

Speaker 6 (01:55:23):
Red Hawks starting at their twenty yard line to Kwan
Finn gives it to Kenny Tracy and he gets a
yanked down just beyond the line of scrimmage. Tack At Curtis,
the linebacker getting in there for Wisconsin, junior out of
the Louisiana second year in the Badger's program after starting
his college career at USC.

Speaker 10 (01:55:42):
Nice job there by, Tackett and also Sebastian Cheeks did
a good job of kind of closing down collapsing. Wisconsin
had an outside defender in case Finn wanted to cover
really good sound football there by the Wisconsin's.

Speaker 6 (01:55:55):
Defense Ben Barton JVR Suggs the interior of that Wisconsin
defensive front to nine Miami at the RedHawks twenty one
yard line. Two receivers left, one on the right, Badgers
bringing four finn to throw fires at right side. That's
caught by Dion Colsey and he gets popped out of
bounds by Ricardo Hallman at the thirty two yard line
Miami territory. Game of eleven and a first down for

(01:56:16):
all the RedHawks.

Speaker 10 (01:56:18):
Yeah, just you know, Hallman gave up, gave a little
bit of space there. You don't see he does not
get targeted very often is targeted there.

Speaker 5 (01:56:26):
Gave up a little bit of space and a first
down pickup for.

Speaker 6 (01:56:30):
The thirty two yard line of Miami. First and ten
eight to fifty five left. Third quarter remains three nothing
Wisconsin fin Old Phillips, Washington slapped to the left, snapped
the fin and he'll give it the Tracy runs into
Sebastian Cheeks behind the line of scrimmage Phil Mark at
the thirty one a loss of one.

Speaker 10 (01:56:51):
A nice job by Cheeks and set his name a
few times, obviously, rygers name a few times. You're seeing
some really good production off of the edge for Wisconsin's
defense tonight putting and you need to with what Finn
can do. Nice job of playing the run there.

Speaker 6 (01:57:06):
Badger's using that depth in the interior of the defensive line.
Parker Peterson and Charles Perkins. Peterson a transfer from Tulane,
Perkins the transfer from U team Martin. Three receivers to
the left. Second down at eleven four Miami at the
RedHawks thirty one yard line. Finn surveys, gets the snap

(01:57:27):
he's going to run at, trying to cut left across
a thirty yard line, dives up near the thirty five
though mark at the thirty four as Austin Brown was
closing on him. So a gain of three for Finn.
Third down and eight's for Miami.

Speaker 10 (01:57:41):
Just a quarterback counter there, a quarterback designed run. It
takes a jab step to the right, pulls some guys,
and Wisconsin did a really good.

Speaker 5 (01:57:49):
Job of reading it. You have to give Finn credit.
He read that, they read it. Was able to cut
and do a slide dive and picked up two or three.

Speaker 6 (01:57:58):
Brandon Lane, Darryl Peterson, and in there Ben Barton ready
to join the party as well. Miami sub late, the
Badgers have the right defensively to sub lay. Clock is
at four at three two one and a time out
taken by Chuck Barton With that play, He's not a
happy camper, the Miami head coach the Badgers with that

(01:58:19):
late sub and offense subs so too can the defense
and it crossed the Red Hawks a time out. As
we get past the halfway point of the third quarter
here at Camp Randalls Stadium in a tight one on

Ho Chunt Gaming Madison is your hometown big Win. Then
your next night out all winning one at ho Chunk
Gaming Madison. Well both teams a bird of time out
here on the third quarters seven thirteen left in it's
still three to nothing Wisconsin. The RedHawks will have a
third and eight at their thirty four yard line.

Speaker 10 (02:00:47):
I was laughing because you get that substitution battle and
you've talked with Luke about that and you can slow
it down.

Speaker 5 (02:00:54):
Ben Barton was very methodical coming out.

Speaker 10 (02:00:58):
And then they were very methodical getting off. Off of
that forced Chuck Bartin to use the timeout. He did
not want to use.

Speaker 6 (02:01:03):
Two receivers right, one on the left. Josh Ringer in
there at running back, took one. Finn takes a stamp.
Pressure coming Jimiir Latimer can't get him. Finn gets away,
rolls off to his right, throws right side high pass
incomplete intended for Dion Colsey. Deanni Hill the cornerback over
there in coverage. So the Bradgers bringing the nickel there

(02:01:25):
in Jamiir Latimer and Finn did well to escape Latimer,
but the Badger defense still gets the stop.

Speaker 10 (02:01:31):
Yeah, you get really nervous when you dial up a
blitz like we did, and Latimer was able to get home,
but Finn, being the dynamic athlete, was able to get
out of it. Very fortunate overthrew that pass and forcing
a punt and.

Speaker 6 (02:01:44):
Another punt for Miami with Tyrrell Henry deep kick is
away coming up on it as Henry oh he gets
hit early penalty marker flies as a ball will bounce
inside the twenty yard line, but Henry did not get
an opportunity to field that punt. Now that will cause
it's the RedHawks and the Badgers will have very good
field position. With six fifty four left in the third quarter,

(02:02:07):
here's the call.

Speaker 13 (02:02:08):
Kick catching the appearents kicking team number twenty one, fifteen
yard pilly from the spot of foul.

Speaker 4 (02:02:14):
It's first down, so.

Speaker 6 (02:02:16):
They're gonna get it in the vicinity of their forty
five yard line. Six fifty four left in the third quarter,
still three to nothing, Wisconsin. Danny O'Neill in a quarterback
is five of six. The one miss was that interception
in the end zone on fourth and three from the
Miami ten.

Speaker 10 (02:02:37):
And I mentioned I thought that first drive a really
good job of moving him in the pocket early first
down easy throws. I would think now after that interception,
you're gonna see a heavy dose of run game coming up.

Speaker 6 (02:02:49):
Dylan Jones the single setback O'Neil under his center, Jake
renfro takes a stamp, hands off Dylan Jones, and he
gets whacked behind the line of scrimmage. Jones does well
to maybe get a yard out of it to the
forty seven yard line. Again, Dylan Jones showing that strength,
but f Andi's defense making it very difficult here for Wisconsin.

(02:03:11):
Second down to nine for the Badgers.

Speaker 10 (02:03:12):
Yeah, there was no room to run there running behind
Riley Malman and not a lot of movement from Riley,
and there was other leakage off that right side, nowhere
for Jones to look and run, and as you said,
very fortunate to get a yard.

Speaker 6 (02:03:25):
Benny Anthony slot and left Jayden ballared wide left, Lance
Mason the tied in motions to the right, O'Neill back
to throw, looking, flips it out to Yachamelli can't pull
it in and run screen And I'm not sure that
was unfolding very in a promising way to begin with.
So it's third down and nine for the Badgers of
their forty seven yard line.

Speaker 63 (02:03:44):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (02:03:45):
I like the idea.

Speaker 10 (02:03:46):
You have a second and long you want to get
what you're trying to do there is you get your
lineman out, Malman out there, you got rent for out there.
You're trying to get a train track set up where
you had just barreled down the field. And I thought
Miami played that pretty well and they put pressure O'Neill
not letting it get set.

Speaker 6 (02:04:01):
Yeah, that was Adam Trick getting pressure on the quarterback.

Speaker 5 (02:04:04):
He's had a day.

Speaker 6 (02:04:05):
Yes, he has tretch kekahuna in motion to the left,
comes back the other way. O'Neill will fake the handoffield
run it across the fifty forty five, O'Neill inside the
forty and down hear the thirty six yard line and
had all the look of a handoff the keckahunah. O'Neill
kept it at a first down run to the thirty
six of Miami.

Speaker 5 (02:04:25):
That had me fooled up here. I thought they he
had handed it off.

Speaker 10 (02:04:28):
And to O'Neill's credit, you had Jacamelly out lead blocking
brunner out there and he pulls it, sees it and
showed really nice nice athleticism.

Speaker 5 (02:04:38):
Getting north and then not letting one guy.

Speaker 10 (02:04:41):
I would like to see him get down because he
took a couple of rattles there but.

Speaker 5 (02:04:45):
Loved the competitive juices of Danny O'Neil.

Speaker 6 (02:04:47):
Right there he runs for seventeen yards five point thirty left,
third quarter, three nothing Wisconsin Badgers on the move at
the Miami thirty six yard line. Jacamelli the running back
out of the pistol play fake, O'Neill rolls left, throws
left and is it tipped up incomplete short hot there,
intended for Vinnie Anthony at the twenty yard line of
the near side, second and ten for the Red Hawks

(02:05:09):
thirty six.

Speaker 5 (02:05:10):
That's a tough throw. I mean, a right handed quarterback
and you're having him roll out left. A good design. Again.

Speaker 10 (02:05:16):
I love the fact first down you're getting him outside
the pocket.

Speaker 5 (02:05:19):
Easy throw.

Speaker 10 (02:05:20):
It's easy from up here when you're throwing across your body.
Vinnie Anthony had all kinds of separation. Unfortunately, O'Neil threw
it a little bit short into the dirt before Anthony
beat his hands under it.

Speaker 6 (02:05:30):
From the thirty six of the Red Hawks. Derean Dupree
in at running back play fake O'Neil a toss to
the right side caught by Eugene Hilton inside the thirty
inside the twenty five and down goes Eugene Hilton, the
Sun of t Y and Eugene freshman out of Indiana.
He was impressive in the spring and he's had a
lot of impressive days in training camp. First in ten.

(02:05:51):
Now for the twenty five of Miami. Two receivers left,
one right O'Neil to throw down the left seam and it.

Speaker 2 (02:05:57):
Is taught by Grant stick inside at the five head down.

Speaker 6 (02:06:01):
To the three. Oh talk about threading the needle there
first and goal wisconsint at the three.

Speaker 10 (02:06:08):
Well, quick, you see some tempo there, and they obviously
liked what they saw, didn't want any substitution, and had
that thing set up nice, little, just simple seam route
down the middle of the field. Steck does a nice
job of securing it, getting it and setting up a

Speaker 10 (02:15:43):
As well miami has seen that they dropped another guy
and very fortunate that ball fell.

Speaker 6 (02:15:48):
To the turf's a lot of left slide right on
second down Hand off Dare and dupree trying the. Left
side not, much there but make something of it across
the forty and up to the forty three. Yard line
that's one Thing about Derry and dupree we saw last
year his. Ball skills he could catch the ball over,
the backfield he could do. Things outside he can run
between the tackles and use some strength right there to
get eight yards.

Speaker 10 (02:16:08):
If that wasn't blocked great off the left Side of
wisconsin's offensive line There and dupre made himself a few
yards there and did a great job of avoiding. Two
guys was able to spin through it and go pick
up a quick.

Speaker 6 (02:16:20):
Eight yards it's third and two For the badgers their
own forty four. Yard line one, twenty left, third quarter Ten.
Nothing wisconsin three, receivers right one on the Left or
pre the running back shot gun staf O'Neil. Quarterback draw
he has ruled across the forty five and he has
popped at the forty eight yard line the first down
with a couple of yards to spare, it again your, Backup,
quarterback yes good. And, EXPOSED well i love.

Speaker 5 (02:16:43):
He is you could tell he's he's a guy that's
got a lot.

Speaker 10 (02:16:46):
Of enthusiasm he's gonna go pick up. First DOWNS and
i think you realize as a, Backup quarterback i'm. GONNA
go i gotta go DO what i. Gotta do but
you also have to be smart when you pick up
the YARD of ja need, get down don't take.

Speaker 10 (02:17:41):
And i think in the pregame we Talked about brooks
And how crimes has kind to have him as one
of the best blocking wideouts.

Speaker 5 (02:17:47):
He's seen he is a. Good blocker that's a.

Speaker 10 (02:17:50):
Tough ass there's a lot, of space And when kakahuna
had to cut, it back he.

Speaker 5 (02:17:54):

Speaker 10 (02:18:16):
Same concept do you have a two by two out
on the far side of, the field you have to
make that.

Speaker 5 (02:18:21):
First block and There. Was brooks they've had him mandated to.

Speaker 10 (02:18:24):
Do that he was unable to, do it and very
fortunate again that that ball fell to the turf and
not gone the.

Speaker 5 (02:18:30):

Speaker 6 (02:18:31):

at forty. One percent this year obviously so far oh.
For eight and also part of the reason they couldn't
get off the field is because they.

Speaker 1 (02:46:32):
Were allowing those third.

Speaker 11 (02:46:33):
And shorts they were ninetieth and rush yards per game
just twenty nine, allowed today, big changes albeit just.

Speaker 6 (02:46:39):
One game on first, And ten RedHawks at their forty,
Yard line finn, To throw he'll toss to, the right
that Is billups williams with, the catch he gets grabbed
by The Legs. Austin brown this would have. Let go
it's still a gain of seven of the forty seven
yard Line. Of miami second down and three was six minutes. To,
play yeah.

Speaker 5 (02:46:56):
Grabbing him by the legs and then the long undershirt.
Was able he was able to got a wrap that
up just to secure him to.

Speaker 6 (02:47:01):
Get down three receivers left one on the right. Shotgun
Snapped the finn looking a, little pressure shuffles off to,
his right throws right side and it will, be incomplete
intended For camp perry flying, for it but well out.
Of bounds so make it third down and three For

(02:47:22):
The red hawks at their forty seven.

Speaker 10 (02:47:24):
Yard line and what's been impressive about some of these
sacks and TFLs and some of the stuff that you're.

Speaker 5 (02:47:29):
Looking at this kid is a.

Speaker 10 (02:47:31):
Dynamic quarterback he has been able to avoid and evade
a few Opportunities that wisconsin's defense has been in, that
backfield and he's been able to make a few plays with.

Speaker 5 (02:47:40):
His feet third down.

Speaker 6 (02:47:42):
And three For The red hawks at their forty seven.
Yard line finn gets The snab badger's. Sending four finn
fires right side back shoulder flagged down Incomplete Pass deon
colsey the, intended Receiver But, deanni hill the Cornerback, for
wisconsin will be guilty of interference defensive fifteen.

Speaker 5 (02:48:03):
Yard pilly from the.

Speaker 6 (02:48:03):
Previous spot automatic.

Speaker 5 (02:48:05):
First, down yeah a, little hands he a little.

Speaker 10 (02:48:08):
Grappy there so that was one of those cases where
it's a you don't want to give. Anything up that
was that was about as easy of. A call you
saw the jersey tug first Down.

Speaker 6 (02:48:18):
For miami fourth penalty of the Night for wisconsin five forty,
to play seventeen to Nothing the badgers first And ten
miami At the wisconsin. Thirty eight finn back to throw
rolls to his right across the forty thirty five angles
out of bounds inside the thirty five and they'll want
to at the thirty three yard Line. Of wisconsin a
gain of Five For Ta. Kwan finn we Use at

(02:48:38):
toledo three. Years, ago now they got Blitzed By, ohio
State but finn made plays in. That GAME and i
think that's what really really started to. Get attention our
dynamic of. A quarterback he can be as a timeout
Taken by wisconsin, here defensively and that's the second charge
timeout For. The badgers five minutes in seventeen. Seconds remaining

(02:49:04):
we'll hold, it here seventeen, To. Nothing wisconsin let's pause

Speaker 5 (02:49:59):
Ryger fear breed and everybody that's been able to. Get
out he is dynamic and he has found.

Speaker 10 (02:50:04):
A way we've seen it in this drive getting outside,
that pocket avoiding the rush for.

Speaker 6 (02:50:08):
The thirty Three. Of wisconsin second out Of, Five miami
finn to throw pressure Coming, From hill finn, got away Chase.
By rieger finn will throw it, away incomplete so Again
the badger's bringing. The pressure finn able to escape and
give his team a chance on third and five At
the wisconsin thirty three. Yard line five eleven to play seventeen.
To nothing Wisconsin, leads miami and.

Speaker 5 (02:50:31):
We've seen pressure coming off.

Speaker 10 (02:50:33):
The slot we've seen different things to try and keep
him in. The pocket he has avoided, a few he's,
taken some, he's got he's been. Brought down wisconsin's done
a lot of different fun things to bring pressure.

Speaker 6 (02:50:44):
To that three receivers right to on the left's, empty
backfield a third and five back. To, throw finn looking,
pressured again throws it deep to the left at it's
out of something at the ten. Yard line At Its
preston seconin again as he rolls to the hat the
ten yard Line. Of Wisconsin preston zachman with two fourth,

(02:51:05):
quarter interceptions the shutout still intact with five oh. Five
remaining that's just playing.

Speaker 10 (02:51:12):
Center field read in, the eyes and you ask, a
secondary what's the best how's the easiest way to? Make
interceptions get pressure on. The quarterback wisconsin ran a little.
Lion Stunt sebastian cheeks, PINCHED in i, rotated out He
threw finn threw, it Up and zachman did a great
job of playing, center field going over and getting his
feet in making his second interception of the quarter and

(02:51:34):
hopefully to close this ball.

Speaker 6 (02:51:36):
Game out so they'll market at the Eleven Of Wisconsin,
derryan dupree the running back O'Neill under his center on,
first down the hand Off to dupree over the right
side of the line and up to about the fourteen
yard line get Slammed Back roosevelt andrews on the. Defensive
line Check that james shot of. The defense it's a.

(02:52:00):
Line maker the tackle gain of three second out and
Seven for wisconsin.

Speaker 10 (02:52:04):
Just really have really have liked what this defensive line has.
Done tonight That was heiberger who kind of came around
on the stunt and was able to put that pressure
on and made that made him throw the football maybe
a smidge early And gave zachmen plenty of time to
go make.

Speaker 5 (02:52:17):
A play.

Speaker 6 (02:52:18):
Pistol formation now to receivers left one on, the right
O'Neil takes, the handoff throws Of any anthony catching quest
twenty twenty five yard Line And benny anthony will get
the first down up to about the twenty six or
twenty seven yard line for twenty Remaining though marga the
twenty seven first In ten wisconsin With a badgers leading seventeen.

Speaker 10 (02:52:37):
TO nothing i Think that's vinnie's fifth catch of. The
night and you know you haven't seen, the big big.
Explosive plays what you have seen is he's been dependable
and he's made. Guys miss it's been very few air
yards that have. Been thrown he's been doing a nice
job after the catch going making.

Speaker 6 (02:52:55):
Something happen from the twenty Seven of wisconsin first and ten,
Pistol formation dupree behind The quarterback, Danny O'Neill kakahuna starts
in motion and the handoff Goes to duprex trying to
hit it off the left side across the thirty yard
line and pushing the stack across the thirty five to the. Thirty,
Six Again darian dupree showing some of that strength and

(02:53:17):
he gets nine second down.

Speaker 7 (02:53:19):
And one Oh Loved.

Speaker 10 (02:53:20):
Emerson mandell they're pulling out and really continuing to drive,
his feet not just letting him continue.

Speaker 5 (02:53:27):
To throw And allow dupree to pick up a couple
extra yards.

Speaker 6 (02:53:31):
Block running three twenty remaining second down and one For
the badgers at their thirty six yard line with a straight,
Eye formation acre And dupre kakahuna in motion right. To
left here's a toss right side play whistled down and
the penalty marker fall start.

Speaker 13 (02:53:52):
Off at summer sixty six Five yard pilde gets second down.

Speaker 6 (02:54:00):
Getting Linked to nilson some work in the left tackle
Transfer From vanderbilts junior Out, Of. Orlando florida so it's
second down and six For the badgers at their thirty one,
yard line And it's Mason tretch kekahuna come out to

(02:54:22):
the lefts two receivers to, the right, hand off or
rather faking the. Hand off O'Neil working the, right side
slighting across the thirty five, yard line started his slide
at the, thirty six so he's a yard short of the.
First down it's third, and one two thirty. To, Play.

Speaker 5 (02:54:41):
Yeah like you have to like what you've seen.

Speaker 10 (02:54:43):
From o'neila obviously made the one poor decision on, fourth
down but what he's been able to bring with, HIS
legs i think it's a couple of really critical plays.

Speaker 5 (02:54:53):
In there at the end of.

Speaker 10 (02:54:54):
The game you're gonna run this thing down at a
two minute, he goes makes a little something and now,
got Down which i'm sure some of the coaches have been, Telling,
them hey you don't need.

Speaker 71 (02:55:03):
To take all those, unnecessary hits and they'll take it
down to the two minute timeouts and we'll continue to
hold it here two. Minutes remaining Wisconsin seventeen, Miami nothing,

Speaker 6 (02:55:34):
Nothing Wisconsin the badgers of a third and one at
their thirty six.

Speaker 10 (02:55:37):
Yard line and, it's INTERESTING and i know you can
find stats to kind of fit the narrative.

Speaker 5 (02:55:42):
Of what you're.

Speaker 10 (02:55:43):
Looking For, And miami ohio deserves a ton. Of credit
they have come in and they've played a, hard nosed tough.
Football game wisconsin deserves a ton of, credit too because,
you know this has been an up and down game
and anytime you lose your starting quarterback who's a leader
on your football team relatively early in, the game and
you've been able to overcome that and in the second,

(02:56:06):
half offensively you've been able to do some pretty. Nice
things it's been a.

Speaker 5 (02:56:11):
YEOMAN'S effort i think you're obviously.

Speaker 10 (02:56:13):
Gonna Hear coach fickle after this, game, say wow a
lot of things to, clean UP and i think, up
front there's some THINGS that i think the run game
could be much better than what it.

Speaker 5 (02:56:21):
Was today but you've.

Speaker 10 (02:56:22):
Found ways to get enough points and to make plays
when the money was on the table to get out
of here with.

Speaker 6 (02:56:28):
A win To Name dylan jones eleven carries for fifty
yards in, This game Darian du pre eight for, Forty
one danny O'Neil twelve of nineteen through, the air one
hundred and, twenty yards, one touchdown. One Interception this, wisconsin
defense though getting, three sacks four tackles for Lost To preston.
ZACHMAN interceptions i tried to give him a touchdown on that.

(02:56:50):
First one they marked it, just short but he gets
the second one Deep in wisconsin territory And the RedHawks
with all of one hundred and seventeen yards.

Speaker 10 (02:56:59):
Of, offense yeah and the last they just got thirty
or forty when you're seeing a little. Softer defense but
story of, THE game, i think oh of nine on,
Third downs wisconsin finding ways to get off the field
and Not letting miami get into any form of any
type of rhythm on offense for the.

Speaker 6 (02:57:16):
Entire night it's third and one For the badgers at
the thirty six, yard line High, Formation jackson Aker And.
Dylan jones O'Neil will give It, To jones he'll get
the first down up across the forty fights his way
to the. Forty three near the, forty four they'll say
the forty three, first down and from Here unless miami,

(02:57:38):
decides Otherwise the badgers can just burn off the. Remaining
time we check in Again, WITH patrick i got a
deep cut.

Speaker 11 (02:57:44):
For You so wisconsin Has played Miami of ohio one
time previously and shut.

Speaker 12 (02:57:48):
Them out in.

Speaker 11 (02:57:49):
That, game also the Last time wisconsin shut out an
opponent in back to back.

Speaker 12 (02:57:54):
Meetings was nineteen forty eight nineteen forty Nine.

Speaker 6 (02:57:57):
Against, marquette yeah about a decade or. So later they
just punted and gave, up, football right pretty good basketball
team for the forty Three. Of wisconsin first and ten
and the handoff Goes to jones across the. Forty Five
dylan jones across Midfield into miami territory out of the
forty nine yard line as they burn off the. Remaining

(02:58:20):
time miami not interested in stopping the clock With one
toho five remaining.

Speaker 10 (02:58:26):
A third straight time we've run, that play just a
simple power. Play pull mandel does a little, skip pull
keeps his eyes flat and does a nice job, of
Finishing And dylan jones just, running hard finishing this.

Speaker 6 (02:58:39):
Game Off o leo can look up at that play
clock showing. Fifteen seconds game clock is now down the
forty five For the miami forty nine, yard line second out.
And two O'Neal gets, the snab Gives To dylan jones
off the left side forty five and tripped up taking
down at about the forty one. Yard line christian McKinney on,

(02:59:01):
the tackle and that should be the game's. Final play,
so obviously the big picture Concern About billy edwards his health,
Moving forward danny O'Neil doing some nice work, coming in
And the wisconsin. Defense outstanding obviously not a, finished product
but some things that grab onto and be encouraged about.

(02:59:25):
Moving Forward For luke fickle In the wisconsin, football.

Speaker 5 (02:59:28):
Program no doubt.

Speaker 10 (02:59:29):
ABOUT it i think there's some, encouraging things and you
know there's obviously coaches love. Being miserable there's going to
be a lot of things that they are going.

Speaker 5 (02:59:36):
To have to continue to.

Speaker 10 (02:59:37):
Work on and you know the big storyline other than the,
win Tonight?

Speaker 5 (02:59:41):
How's edwards is health going to be? Moving forward that's
gonna be the.

badger's offense, you know obviously nowhere close to a, finished
product but going in the second half a bit three

(03:04:05):
hundred and fifty three yards Total And, MARK tash, i
think all, things considered with the obvious Concern About billy
edwards and, His health danny O'Neill came in and did well,
and played, you know for the most we got away
with a, couple throws, No doubt will played like a
quarterback who, has experience which he does being to start a.

Speaker 10 (03:04:24):
YEAR ago i thought he really did some, nice things and,
you know when the, injury happened you kind of put
him in a tight SPOT and i thought he came
in and handled himself, really WELL and i thought really
made some plays with. His feet a couple of, poor
decisions one that really stung down here in the red
zone he threw the interception of the. End zone but

(03:04:44):
coaches will always say it's not about what, you do
it's about how you react. To IT and i thought really,
came back and, You know luke is always talking about,
complimentary FOOTBALL and, i thought tonight you, saw that you
saw when a.

Speaker 5 (03:04:57):
Mistake happened when your defense plays, this well that's going
to complement a lot.

Speaker 10 (03:05:02):
Of things and the defense held, it up but the
offense made. ENOUGH plays I think danie O'Neil deserves a
lot of credit for coming in twelve. TO nineteen a
buck twenty made the, one mistake but with his feet,
AND leading i thought played a really good second half of.

Speaker 6 (03:05:16):
Football, And defensively and again you can't ignore the Fact
that miami has no returning starters from a. Year ago
it does have a very experienced and it was certainly
a dynamic Quarterback In Da. Kwan finn But the, badger defense,
you know getting, the Shutout and finn made a couple
of plays here, and there but it seemed like they
had him contained pretty much throughout the course of.

Speaker 10 (03:05:38):
THE game i thought it was just a really, good
plan and you kept seeing because, you know he holds
that and rides it and puts a lot of pressure ON.

Speaker 5 (03:05:45):
The dns what you do is, you say, all right
you just go do.

Speaker 10 (03:05:48):
Your thing and then they brought support out and, basically said,
all right if you can make these throws on first and,
second down well tip. The cap and they didn't, Do
THAT so, I thought I thought tressel had a really
good plan in, Place too but the boys, up front
your plan is as good as, your PLAYERS and i
thought the Players tonight wisconsin's defense was more physical and

nebraska which has had some issues winning, close games and
another one right Now leading cincinnati twenty to seventeen with
about two. Minutes left so, you know a lot of
Talk about nebraska making the making a.

Speaker 10 (03:10:41):
Big jump we've been talking about that for twenty, five,
years though haven't that It's. For NEBRASKA they'll i think
that'll be interesting To. WATCH minnesota i see they Just
beat Buffalo and rutgers, Held ON so i think what
you're gonna find there's obviously The, big Boys The ohio
states and or again some of the those teams THAT
will i think just kind. Of keep but this you're

(03:11:03):
going to see where people used, to, say oh there's
cupcakes and, all this there's games you. Should win but
there's so much uncertainty and so much newness THAT that
i think that that line is getting more and, more
blurry and it's getting these games are getting more and.

Speaker 6 (03:11:18):
More competitive we haven't, talked much YOU and i on these,
broadcasts about, you know the expanded playoffs at twelve, right
now speculation that it. Could increase what do you think is?
Twelve around is that a? Good Number should should there be?
More access?

Speaker 10 (03:11:33):
YOU think i like the idea of still having a
lot to play for in the regular season and getting,
you know.

Speaker 5 (03:11:41):
A buy i don't want anything more. THAN sixteen i
know there's been talk at.

Speaker 10 (03:11:45):
TWENTY eight i football, is HARD and i think you
need to have a really good regular season to. Advance
ON so i liked it, at four AND then i
was kind of hoping to go. To eight it's at
twelve you get the four buys and you have everybody
kind of swinging it out play. AT home i like,
it here but something tells me there's a little cheddar

(03:12:07):
that's gonna be coming down.

Speaker 5 (03:12:08):
The pipe and when, that happens you're usually you.

Speaker 10 (03:12:11):
Don't contract you typically try it and continue to.

Speaker 5 (03:12:14):
Grow it and THAT'S what i would think is going to, up.

Speaker 6 (03:12:15):
Happen which leads to the next great debate if it goes.
To Sixteen The big ten has been a strong proponent
of four Automatic qualifiers big ten IN, the sec Two
each BIG, twelve acc one for the highest ranked group,
of five and then three at large in one of
those would be Reserved For. Notre dame there are those who,
like that there are those who. Hate that if you're

(03:12:36):
a national writer OR you're espn and you got those
ranking Shows, all, november yeah probably like five, plus eleven?
Don't you you like more?

Speaker 10 (03:12:45):
And more, AND mytery i do love the, concept of,
you know the end of, the season you kind of
bracket it off and have pseudo playing games to get into,
the playoff whether that's a three plan of six and
a four versus. A five so you're gonna have a
really good regular season and then play a big. Boy
GAME but i, still believe, you know this regular the

(03:13:06):
beautiful part about college football, to me has always Been every.
Saturday matters you don't have five or six losses and
you can get into. A playoff you have to really
bring it week in and week out in order to.
Get IN and i think as we, keep expanding that
gets less. And Less but i'm also not naive to why.

Speaker 6 (03:13:25):
That's, happened yeah being a DINOSAUR that. I am i
kind of like the old way back when you, Were
playing you win, your league go To The, rose bowl

was what we needed to see on the defensive side of,
the FOOTBALL and i really like the fact that it was.
More aggressive you saw more plays behind the line of

so yes the defense, was great oh for, you Know
keeping miami oh. For nine but they were. Also fresh
they weren't. Out there you had the long drive early in,
the game and even though it was only, three nothing
you kind of just, felt like, all right you're you're
able to do. Some things the injury happens and everybody

(03:19:42):
was kind, of panicking, you know from a. Fan standpoint
THAT'S why i love the fact that O'Neill. Came in

That's what miami was giving and then you built off.
Of that so it wasn't perfect by any stretch of,
the imagination but a lot of THINGS that i think
you can feel a lot better about because this looked
more like what we expect At the University.

Fickle coach the stories tonight obviously going to be about,
the defense but let me Start with billy because it's
obviously one of the, first stories third series of, the
game and you had to make a significant adjustment and started.

Speaker 5 (03:24:51):
Your, team, YEAH yeah i didn't even know it was the.

Speaker 57 (03:24:53):
THIRD series i thought it was a little deeper into
the game, than that, but yeah we don't know a
whole lot.

Speaker 4 (03:24:58):
Right now he was back, out there so.

Speaker 1 (03:25:00):
That's that's good.

Speaker 6 (03:25:01):
To see but, you know we had to face.

Speaker 57 (03:25:03):
Some adversity you had to had to step in and
and that's been a position that, you know the past.

Speaker 1 (03:25:08):
SIX days i think that, You.

Speaker 57 (03:25:09):
Know billy has probably taken eighty some percent of the
snaps just the nature of, you know first games and and,
you know, new offense what we had. To do And
so i'm Proud of danny to be able to go
in there and be able to, you know obviously perform
the way he did and do the things. He did,
and uh, you know with with probably having minimal REPS.

Speaker 28 (03:25:28):
Where i was going to go to next obviously it
doesn't get a ton of reps, lean up but he
did start all of last year, not here so he
had some experience and that.

Speaker 7 (03:25:35):
Probably, helped no.

Speaker 57 (03:25:36):
There is a confidence level and in Him and danny,
for sure we've seen that since today walks in the,
door here he's got some it to him and and
he's been at his best when we when we played,
live situations whether it was in, the spring in the,
spring game whether it was involved when we went to
obviously some live, situation stuff that's when that's when he
showed up. The most, and uh obviously there's some things
still as a young guy that, you know we've got

(03:25:58):
to be able. To Do but i'm proud of the
way he. Handled up proud of the way that Guy's
handled i'm proud of the way they, you know stuck
together and recognize what complimentary football we're going to continue to.

Speaker 6 (03:26:08):
Talk about, you know look, like tonight there's.

Speaker 28 (03:26:10):
Always adversity there is obviously the adversity we talk about
even in the opening drive of the, third quarter you
guys do some really, good things but it stalls at.
The ten you go forward on fourth down and then
there's an end zone interception and you've got to come back.

Speaker 57 (03:26:22):
From, that yeah, you know maybe second guess yourself there.
REAL quick i don't know that six was, you know
the number. To have so we wanted to continue to
be aggressive in some of. Those situations, you know the
defense is, playing well so, you know if we didn't,
GET it i was hoping we'd leave him there on
the ten, yard line but instead of we moving not.

Speaker 6 (03:26:40):
To twenty but you know it was.

Speaker 57 (03:26:43):
It was it was, aggressive play but the defense ended
up stepping up and, you know making us look a little.

Speaker 28 (03:26:48):
Bit better, Danny responded i'm going to take you through a.
Little bit on the, next drive you have a third
and Nine and danny runs. FOR seventeen i believe it's
a design run call from the quarterback or did he.

Speaker 1 (03:26:57):
Read it it's.

Speaker 6 (03:26:58):
A read it's definitely. A read but you got to
have an.

Speaker 57 (03:27:01):
Aggressive nature you've got to have a willing and a
want to to have the ball in your hand in,
those situations so it's easy to hand the. Thing off
there's no doubt but that's where you see what when
he's at his at.

Speaker 28 (03:27:12):
His best later in, That Drive eugene HILT and i
believe it's his first, collegiate catch And then steck And
then anthony three. Consecutive Throws so danny recovered from that
end zone interception.

Speaker 57 (03:27:23):
HE did i, think that, you know as we learn
a lot about our guys in what we've seen from,
you know from Him from spring and And Even's, paul
CAMP but i don't know that he has a, long
memory which it can be a really.

Speaker 7 (03:27:35):
Good thing but but to learn from.

Speaker 57 (03:27:37):
Those things we got to continue to figure out how
we can move forward. With that, but no it was
it's good to See with eugene and some of those
guys that made. Some Plays grant stack made a really
big play for us.

Speaker 30 (03:27:46):
Down there we just we We don't we had, some
drives but we we just.

Speaker 57 (03:27:50):
Couldn't finish and, that's where, you know we really got
to go back to work and, figure, out uh you
know what we got to be able to do to
kind of eliminate those Big minus hargage plays.

Speaker 7 (03:27:58):
Two, final thoughts both on, your defense so they go
zero for nine on.

Speaker 28 (03:28:01):
Third down miami did tonight so you limit them to
zero third down conversions and one hundred and seventeen, total
yards and that's a dangerous quarterback that can do a lot.

Speaker 57 (03:28:10):
Of, things yeah that's that's that's a recipe to win
a football game in whatever way you.

Speaker 6 (03:28:15):
Need to that they.

Speaker 57 (03:28:17):
PLAYED well i thought the guys up front did a
really good, job at, you know early on handling some
new things that maybe you weren't as, prepared for, you
know not expecting them to run the quarterback. As much
but then their ability to kind of, you know adapt
and adjust a little bit at rushing the quarterback and realizing,
you know what the speed of it was going.

Speaker 1 (03:28:34):
To be and those guys did a really.

Speaker 57 (03:28:35):
Good job combined was, you know change up with some
coverage in the.

Speaker 28 (03:28:38):
Back end one of your leaders stepped up with two
picks then late in.

Speaker 7 (03:28:41):
The, game too so they go for nine on third
down and you get two turnovers.

Speaker 6 (03:28:45):
Off them that's those.

Speaker 57 (03:28:46):
Are huge i'm just going To get autumn for stepping
out of bounds at the two. Yard line but you,
know what if there's anybody that has had as good,
a CAMP and i don't want to say, A change
preston's been solid for us in the last. Two Years
but i'm just there's a different person, back there just with,
his aggressiveness his. Confidence, level uh he's played at a

(03:29:08):
pretty really high level all the fall Camp and i'm excited.

Speaker 28 (03:29:11):
For him luke final One, on monday you said you
had a lot to prove. To yourselves this is just
one chapter of. A season, but tonight through, some adversity
you you wrote a pretty good. First chapter at, the, END.

Speaker 37 (03:29:23):
Yeah I mean i knew this team was going to be.

Speaker 57 (03:29:25):
PRETTY good, i mean if you watched them last year early,
they boy they gave some fits to to guys and
there they're a, new team but they're consistent in what.
They do they're they're going to challenge you defensively, to
say we're not going to allow you to run the
football on some in. Some THINGS but i really wanted
