Good morning from Sabin Field. At Bryant's Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa,
alongside Mark Tauscher, Patrick Kerb, Mike Keller, Dave McCann, and
Aisha Jackson, who's back in a network studio. This is
Matt Leapey. We welcome you to Wisconsin football as the
Badgers make their first ever trip to t Town to
play a football game. Luke fickles two and zero Wisconsin

(01:32):
Badgers against Kaylin de Bor's one to one Alabama Crimson Tide.
Before we get started, let's pause ten seconds for station identification.
Ten for an ID. This is Badger football from lear Field.
Eighty five degrees and yeah, this is a sun splash day.
Eighty five degrees, a very light breeze out of the southeast.

(01:53):
Humidity percentages in the low forties and will drop as
the day goes on. So hot, but may be not
quite as steamy as it could be here, but definitely
a departure from the atmosphere at least in terms of
the weather for the first two games. Full the Wisconsin
Badgers and Tash. Let's get to our construction business group

Keys to the game, Wisconsin Operating Engineers, Build your career,
Join one three to nine dot Com. What are you
looking for for the keys here today?

Speaker 3 (02:23):
The keys to this game today.

Speaker 8 (02:24):
I think Wisconsin's defense needs to play to the level
that it's played the last two weeks against a much
better competition. And I think our edges, you know, with
Rager and Cheeks have been really, really good. I think
today for Wisconsin to come in here in this great
atmosphere and you fly over it is everything everything you

(02:45):
want as a player. You get this great opportunity. They
need to be playmakers. They need to make some difference
making plays. And if they can do that, you have
to hope that Wisconsin get off to a fast start,
whether that's creating a short field with special teams or
getting a time play on a turnover. I think that
would vode well for a big upset to prove.

Speaker 2 (03:05):
Yeah, trying to get something going offensively. I mean three
to nothing at the half against Miami, fourteen to ten,
a gift wrap the touchdown to Middle Tennessee.

Speaker 9 (03:14):
That's as we were.

Speaker 2 (03:14):
Talking with Patrick Kerb, that is a dangerous place to
live now that the schedule ramps up in a big way.
As the Badgers have taken the field, the Alabama Crimson
Tide coming out of the tunnel to our right as
they get ready to take the field under the direction
of second year head coach Caitlin de boor we'll throw
it down to the sideline. Patrick Curb checking in teased

(03:35):
it during the injury update about Jake Renfro being questionable.

Speaker 9 (03:40):
I think we can remove.

Speaker 2 (03:42):
That tag, Patrick, as it looks like Jake is gonna
give it a go here this afternoon.

Speaker 10 (03:47):
Yeah, really good news. Luke Figle confirmed just before, just.

Speaker 11 (03:50):
Before the team came out here, that Jake Renfall will
ins fact to start at center, So that brings a
little bit of continuity back to the offensive line. We
saw last week that Kerry Kadonka started at center and
there were some issues with snapping and maybe just some
consistency issues. So hopefully that brings a big lift. He's
also one of the leaders of this team, and you
would think that would give them a spark. As Alabama's

(04:10):
football team is about to take the field here, you
can't help but be swept up a little bit in
the pageant tree. And that's something that Wisconsin is not
shy to wait from at all during this week or
even during the transfer portal recruiting process. Luke Fickel said,
they're part of their process. When they were going after
a kid and they'd bring him on a visit, he
would slide the schedule across the table with them and say,
here's what we faced this year at Alabama, at Michigan,

(04:34):
at Oregon, Ohio State at home, Iowa at home, all
of these games that everybody's been talking about about this
schedule being so hard.

Speaker 10 (04:40):
He said, can you handle this?

Speaker 11 (04:42):
That was the question put in front of recruits and
in front of transfers, and he said, and if you don't,
if this scares you, then maybe this isn't for you.
And this is the type of game he was talking about.
Mason Riger said when he was being recruited by a
few different schools and was contemplating transferring to Wisconsin, this
was one of many selling points being able to play
in this game and this environment on this stage at Alabama.

(05:04):
We've talked about the anomaly of this, but the guys
are relishing in and they've been talking all week about
meeting the moment.

Speaker 10 (05:10):
We'll see if they're up for the challenge.

Speaker 2 (05:11):
All about that mark your college coach. Love the big
games right and no big PEP talks were probably all
that necessary.

Speaker 8 (05:18):
No, you know what it was always this is why
you've come to Wisconsin, has to play in these big
time environments because you know, all these guys want to
go play in the pros and when you are going
to get looked at. These games are the ones that
scouts and everybody loves to take a look at. But
just the environment, you know, Patrick mentioned the pageantry. This
is what college football is all about. Opportunities like this

(05:41):
to showcase your talents, and that's you want to have
those guys that embrace that, and we hope Wisconsin does.

Speaker 2 (05:46):
Captain's on the field Darryl Peters and Chris Brooks, Austin
Brown and Joe Brunner the reps today. I don't know
if we can pick up the ref mic or not,
but we're ready for the toss of the coin as
the captains meet at midfield. Tim Barker is the referee,
and I don't think we're able to get his voice here,
so I'll tell you how it goes.

Speaker 9 (06:06):
And it looks like.

Speaker 12 (06:08):
Alabama wins the toss and to first to the second half,
Wisconsin will receive.

Speaker 3 (06:14):
On this end.

Speaker 2 (06:15):
There you go, gentlemen, So Wisconsin will receive and this
end is to our left as we view it here
at Bryant Denny Stadium, the Badgers and the traveling White
unis for the first time, the White Pants, the Cardinal
Trim Alabama in the home Crimson jerseys, the White Pants
and the White Trim.

Speaker 9 (06:34):
Bet you.

Speaker 2 (06:35):
Calin de Boor his second year and he's ten and
five as a head coach of the Tide. Team went
nine to four last year, started strong and then stumbled
in the second half of the season, but the guys
won wherever he's been a couple of years of Fresno State,
two years of Washington twenty five and three, including a
trip to the National Championship Game two years ago.

Speaker 9 (06:55):
Had a great run at is Alma moter.

Speaker 2 (06:57):
Of South Dakota, or rather of Sue Falls, I should say,
where he was very successful there. He is a native
of Millbank, South Dakota. Still a young guy fifty years old,
doesn't turn fifty one until next month. There's someone probably
you probably can't prepare for all this down here, learning
as he goes. The passion that folks down here have

(07:19):
for Alabama football.

Speaker 8 (07:20):
It's definitely a lot different. And I think when you're
talking about replacing a legend and the greatest college football
coach of all time in Nick Saban. The expectations come
and when you're a little just a little bit off
and you don't win every game at pressure ramps up
and obviously starting the season off with the loss, you
saw them come out red hot last week.

Speaker 3 (07:42):
Going to be very interesting.

Speaker 8 (07:43):
To see how they come out today and how Wisconsin responds.

Speaker 2 (07:46):
Connor Tolti will kick off for Alabama. You got Vinnie
Anthony and caid Yakamelli deep for Wisconsin. The Badgers and
the Tide here in Tuscaloosa. Week three of the college
football season. Big Ten Play begins a week from today
for the Badgers and eleven am kick at Camp Randall
against the Maryland terra Pins and all to talk about

(08:10):
the Badgers' schedule strength. Some will say it's the toughest
in all of college football, and that ramp up starts
here at about a minute or less as Taalty gets
to go ahead. As we are set to go, there's
one hundred thousand seat stadium and there are a few
empties but not many. As Talty runs up and the

(08:32):
kick high end over in Vinnie Anthony is gonna let
it hit into the end zone for the touchback. The
Badgers started their twenty five yard line, and we are
underway in Tusca Loosa.

Speaker 8 (08:42):
And I thought one of the things Patrick mentioned that
it was questionable whether or not Renfro is going to
go And with all of the shifting that we saw
last week and the experience that has gained and you
want to just keep building off of it, I think
it is obviously very welcome that Renfro is able to
get out there, help with the communication, help keep things
settled because you're in a big time atmosphere. Keep everything settled,

(09:03):
make it as normal as you can, and try to
get off to a fast start.

Speaker 2 (09:07):
It was Richard Freshman on the right side, Colin Coverly
the guard, nol Emerson Mandel the tackle, get Joe Brunner
left guard, Riley Malman left tackle, Danny O'Neil the quarterback.
Out of the shotgun. He's got Dylan Jones to his right.
First play from the scrimmage snapped to O'Neal, shoots it
right side. That's caught across the thirty yard line to
the tied end. Lance Mason or make that Grant Stck

(09:27):
I should say, and he drives it up to the
thirty four on a gain of nine and as the
Badgers with a quick toss on first down, second and one.

Speaker 8 (09:35):
Love that g get O'Neill into a rhythm right away.

Speaker 3 (09:37):
First down.

Speaker 8 (09:39):
Alabama is going to be sitting there, stacked, trying to
stop the run game. Easy pitch and catch. A nice
job by Steck sitting in that zone.

Speaker 2 (09:45):
Ris Brooks vinning, Anthony Tretch, Keck who to the receivers,
Tretch in motion to the right.

Speaker 9 (09:49):
Here is the hand off.

Speaker 2 (09:49):
Dylan Jones up the middle, bangs across the thirty five
yard line. Kway Russol among others there to slamming to
the Wisconsin running back, but not before Jones gets the
first down across the thirty five five yard line up
to the thirty seven in Wisconsin territory.

Speaker 8 (10:03):
Yeah, little tempo there. I like that you get up there.
Alabama wasn't quite set. Just a little zone playoff to
the left, little cutback, get that first first down. Everybody
takes a beat, and now you can kind of feel
let's get this thing rolling all right.

Speaker 2 (10:16):
Well, Henry slide to the right, Chris Brooks wide to
the right, first and ten. Nol Henry will come in
motion into the backfield and as they flanked the quarterback
Danny O'Neil from the Wisconsin thirty seven yard line. O'Neill reads,
keep steps up, He'll run thirty five, and he'll slide
down the forty yard line justin Jefferson, the linebacker was closing.
O'Neil started the slide at the thirty nine. So it's

(10:38):
a gain of two second down and eight for Wisconsin.

Speaker 8 (10:41):
A lot of things for the linebackers to keep an
eye on. You get a little fake hand off to Jones,
and then you have a wide receiver coming on a.

Speaker 3 (10:48):
Just like a fake jet sweep. O'Neil reads it.

Speaker 8 (10:51):
That thing parted wide open in the middle of the field.
Nice job of just going, getting a couple of yards,
getting down, not taking a hit.

Speaker 2 (10:58):
Yeah, they really want him to protect himself as you
would imagine trips to the right. Now, Kekahuna motions to
the left and an end of round to him across
the forty yard line. I think he has swallowed up
at the forty three. Bracon Hubbard out of the secondary
over to make the tackle.

Speaker 9 (11:14):
He'll be a little harder to.

Speaker 2 (11:15):
Execute those into rounds against this outfit, but the Badgers
still with some positive yards there. It's third and four
at they're forty three.

Speaker 8 (11:22):
Yeah, it just shows the obviously the difference in talent there,
because you want to make a defense go side to side,
you want to kind of keep them guessing, and that
was actually pretty well blocked. Stackhead a nice block out
in front, but the speed of those linebackers were able
to catch up and get him down.

Speaker 3 (11:36):
Setting up at third down.

Speaker 2 (11:37):
Here, Badger's forty eight percent on third down through the
first two games. Three receivers left, one on the right,
O'Neill in the shotgun, Kekahunah motions to the right on
third down and four for Wisconsin. O'Neal gets the stamp,
looks right, throws right, caught by Chris Brooks across the
bid the penalty marker down as Brooks is taken down
by Keon sab and this one is coming back.

Speaker 3 (12:00):
Yeah, they're gonna get Kakahoona on a pick.

Speaker 12 (12:03):
Offense number two. That's a fifteen yard penh a tha down.

Speaker 8 (12:10):
I saw it from up here. You're running a little slant.
What your job there is to clear out? You run
your route and you do want to impede the defensive back.
What you can't do is square up and get square
into him. When you do that, the ref sees it
through that flag before the ball is even out.

Speaker 3 (12:27):
Didn't you'd like.

Speaker 8 (12:29):
To see him get away with that, But you have
to be a little bit more shifty when you're trying
to set a set a screen or I guess it
was called a pick when it's called.

Speaker 2 (12:38):
So the Badger's backed up to their twenty eight yard line.
They need the forty seven for a first down. Three
receivers right, one on the left, and O'Neal gets the
shotgun stab Bama bringing three. O'Neil flush to his right
and sack at the twenty yard line. Lt Overton off
the edge, gets to the quarterback and a promising series

(13:00):
unravels with the penalty, and now the Badger's punting from
deep in their own territory.

Speaker 8 (13:06):
Yeah, obviously we need to stay in that third and short.
We can't be in that position. And that was just
Overton beating Riley Maulman inside back tried to come in
and help, but really nice inside move and able to
get him down on a long one pun on a.

Speaker 2 (13:20):
Way Atticus Bertram's on to the punt. Cole Adams is
deep for Alabama and the kick is away, drifting to
his left as Adams he'll catch at the thirty across
the thirty five and then tapped out of bounds by
Austin Brown, and Alabama will take over first and ten
inside their forty yard line. Fifty yards on the punt,
nine on the return, as the Tide will start at

(13:41):
his thirty eight yard line.

Speaker 9 (13:42):
First and ten.

Speaker 3 (13:43):
So promising start. You get that first down.

Speaker 8 (13:45):
Anytime you come into a hostile environment like Tuscaloose obviously,
is you get that first first down, and unfortunately you
drop a play. You think you have the first down
and you know there's you call the pass offensive pass
interference and away you have to punt.

Speaker 3 (14:01):
Now Alabama gets the ball.

Speaker 2 (14:02):
Back eleven twenty one, first quarter, first possession for Alabama
as they go double wide to the right, Ryan Williams
wife Jeremy Bernard in the slot. Here's the hand off
Kevin Riley working off the left side. Nothing doing stop
right at the point of attacks. It'll be a second
down and ten for Alabama. They have rotated five running

(14:23):
backs into these first couple of games you mentioned they
have been without jam Miller. They're still trying to settle
I would think at that position in this early stage
of the season. Second down and ten for the Tide
at the Alabama thirty eight yard line trips to the right.
The freshman Brooks along with Bernard and Ryan Williams. A

(14:45):
lot of talent out there, and penalty markers fly pre
snap movement at the line, and the officials will sort
this out.

Speaker 9 (15:00):
Here's the call.

Speaker 12 (15:01):
I'll start on the offense number eighty five yard penalty.

Speaker 2 (15:06):
It is second down, so both teams with a penalty.
Of course, Wisconsin with the early penalty went penalty free
last week, so it's second and fifteen. Alabama at its
own thirty three yard line. Badgers have Sebaster Cheeks, Mason
Reiger on the edge, sugs and Ben Barton on the interior,

(15:30):
three receivers tight to the left, and Jeremy Bernard breaks
in motion of the right shotgun staff tie Simpson. Badgers
rush for Simpsons screen left caught by Riley at the
thirty five yard line and taken down the open field
by Christian Allegro at the thirty eight or thirty nine
yard line, right to mark at the thirty nine, so
they get third down and nine for Alabama. As they

(15:51):
get right back on the ball. Four receivers, Riley the
running back to the left, three to the right. Now
Riley motions into the backfield. Third and nine Alabama at
the Crimson tied thirty nine yard line. With more than
five minutes gone by first quarter, no score, Simpson calls
for the ball. Badger's sending four. Simpson, looking under some pressure,
dances to his left field run at angles left to

(16:13):
the forty yard line near the forty five, the short
of the first down. I think, let's see where they
mark this across the forty five, right in front of
head coach Luke Fickle, and it looks like the forty
six yard line. So it is fourth down and two
for Alabama, and Kaylin de Boor keeps the tied offense

(16:34):
on the field.

Speaker 8 (16:35):
And here's where you have to be very cognizant. We
saw a little movement already with a hard count. Obviously
fourth and two. Fourth down. People are going fourth more
and more, but you can't give it to them. Free
have to be smart.

Speaker 2 (16:47):
They are empty in the backfield, but no longer is
the running back Riley motions to the right of ty Simpson.
Fourth and two Alabama, and they're gonna run the place.
Simpson looking looking, sets floats to a right, throws right
said high passage COMPLEE want a Jeremy Bernard Preston ZACHVTN
on the coverage and the Wisconsin defense gets it back

(17:09):
on downs. Alabama took a chance and it did not work.

Speaker 11 (19:53):
One of the many reasons it's great to have Jake
Renfro bracket centers. It gives you a veteran presence when
they're trying to run a snapcount.

Speaker 10 (19:59):
It's loud in here.

Speaker 11 (20:00):
One hundred thousand people is what the capacity of this
building is, and so the batter's worked all week on
what that silent count is, with the guard being the
indicator and helping Renfro know one to snap and being
using nonverbal cues. It's something that they admitted maybe they
didn't do as well as they could have last year
at Iowa. They learned from that. Hopefully they're going to
have success with it today. Tosh, you can give context

(20:20):
to what a silent count means in an environment like this.

Speaker 8 (20:22):
You want to be able to let your tackles get
off on a snap count, you get that tap that
indicates when that ball is going to get snapped.

Speaker 3 (20:30):
That's what you're trying to do. Get everybody lined up.

Speaker 2 (20:31):
Dude Ballard wide left and Anthony to the right, shotgun
snapp Danny Oeil on first down looks throws right side,
picked off wanted Vinnie Anthony. He goes right into the
hands of Bracon Hubbard had a quick turnover. Is Hubbard
taken down, just shot out of the forty yard line.
So just like that, Alabama gets it back.

Speaker 8 (20:49):
I understand that very similar play to the first play
of the game. Alabama's just sitting in their zone and
I don't know if Danie just didn't see Alabama's defender,
but that not going to see an easier interception than
the one we just saw.

Speaker 2 (21:04):
So we talked about Danny got away with a couple
in each of the first two games. There were interceptions
in each of the first two, but against again that
was room service for Hubbard. So now let's see how
the Badgers handle this sudden change. Alabama taken over out
its thirty nine yard line and going under center. Now
is Ty Simpson Jeremy Bernard mootions left to right as

(21:26):
Simpson hands off to Richard Young trying the right side
and tack at Curtis gets in there right away. A
short game for Richard Young, Richard sophomore running back out
of Lehigh Acres, Florida, and he will get a yard
to the Alabama forty where it's second down and nine.

Speaker 8 (21:41):
We've talked a lot about how much bigger and more
depth the interior this defensive line. Brandon Lane in these
fresh really did a great job of holding the point
and that forced a little bounce out for Curtis to
make a nice play.

Speaker 2 (21:53):
He's joined by Parker Peterson, the interior of the Wisconsin
defense double lied to the right. We'd go Scott in
motion to the left. Here's the handoff to Young and
again met right away. You had cheeks down low. Brandon
Lane up high, no gain of the play. It's third
down and nine for Alabama.

Speaker 3 (22:12):
Just how you draw it up. On the defensive side
of the ball, you.

Speaker 8 (22:15):
Are holding the point of attack in a really stout
way and you let these edge guys. You know, Cheeks
did a great job. Ryger also collapsing down. And when
you can hold that point and force Scott force running
backs to bounce the ball, that's what your defense is
drawn up to do.

Speaker 2 (22:31):
So at third and nine for the Tide fifty two
percent on third down in the first two games of
the season. Ryan Williams the wide receiver in motion right
to left, three receivers outside of the formation. Ty Simpson
in the shotgun gets the stab Badgers trying to send
some pressure hit As he throws left side at it's
caught by Ryan Williams inside the forty of Wisconsin. The

(22:52):
Yonnie Hill will steer him out of bounds at the
thirty six yard line. Wisconsin territory is Alabama converts hunt
third and nine.

Speaker 8 (23:00):
That's your big time player finding a way to get
open in a great throw by Simpson because Wisconsin brought pressure,
got in his face and he just delivered an absolute
strike to Williams.

Speaker 2 (23:09):
I'll come out slot and left slot right. Daniel Hill,
big guy in there at running back. About a two
hundred and forty pounder, quick throw Simpson right side. Jeremy
Bernard makes the catch and he'll be wrestled to the turfy.
Riccardo Hallman at the thirty one yard line of Wisconsin
on a gain of five. Shuck it down coming up
for Alabama.

Speaker 8 (23:28):
Just a rhythm throw there, and Simpson, I can't tell
you how great of a throw he just made on
third and nine with the pocket collapsing arounding were there.
That's just a simple timing route. Saw it anticipated it.
Rico actually had really good coverage, but really good throw.

Speaker 3 (23:43):
Nice play.

Speaker 2 (23:44):
Six forty left to the first quarter, no score. Alabama
threatening second and five at the Wisconsin thirty one yard line.
Riley back in there at running back. Simpson gets a snap,
a little pitch to Riley off the right edge inside
the thirty yard line and shooting in there. Was Austin
Brown for Wisconsin, and they'll mark Riley a little short

(24:04):
of the lined gain. It's like the twenty eight yard
line of Wisconsin. Third down and two for Alabama.

Speaker 3 (24:11):
A nice job of just running to the football.

Speaker 8 (24:13):
There they pulled their big guard vand to mark out
there at nice job of running to the football and
getting just enough on his shoelace to trip him up
to set up a third and two.

Speaker 2 (24:23):
I'll send three receivers Ryan Williams, Jeremy Bernard along with
Isaiah Horton to the left Wiley the running back motions
of the backfield to the left of Ty Simpson. On
third down and two with the Wisconsin twenty eight yard line,
Simpson gets a snap, rolls off to his right, throws
to his right end and has bobbled it is caught
and it'll be a first down. Stood up by Preston Zachman.

(24:45):
That was Williams on the catch. Didn't need much, but
they get enough down to the twenty five yard line
of Wisconsin first in ten Alabama.

Speaker 3 (24:54):
It's not easy.

Speaker 8 (24:54):
Simpson rolls out to his left, right handed quarterback and
not shockingly on third down, who's our best player, go
find him. Wisconsin sees that it's one thing to see,
it's another thing to stop at Williams a two third
down catches already first.

Speaker 2 (25:09):
And tent Alabama ball at the twenty five yard line
of Wisconsin. Spread them out again. Three receivers on the right,
two on the left. Simpson checks out the Wisconsin defense,
wrings his hands together, takes a stamp against the four
man rush.

Speaker 9 (25:21):
Quick pass right side, caught.

Speaker 2 (25:22):
By Brooks inside the fifteen yard line, chase down by
Tacket Curtis down to the eleven yard line of Wisconsin. Lads,
are Brooks you mentioned, a very promising freshman. He was
getting some more reps last week with Ryan Williams out,
and he gets involved early here today, first and ten
at the Wisconsin eleven.

Speaker 8 (25:39):
What we've seen so far, Wisconsin been very stout against
the run and setting Alabama from third and long.

Speaker 3 (25:44):
So they're saying, we're gonna spread you out, and we're gonna.

Speaker 8 (25:47):
See Wisconsin's playing a soft zone behind it on first
down and Simpson is right now just finding his guys.

Speaker 2 (25:52):
Two receivers either side. Kevin Riley the running back of
the eleven yard line of Wisconsin. On first down, Simpson
is to trying to bounce it to his right, fights
his way inside the ten yard line and gets driven
to the turf just inside the ten. Is again, because
you're saying, Mark, they continue to be very stout against
Alabama's running attack.

Speaker 8 (26:13):
Yeah, Laane and Peterson in there just holding the point,
and that was a hard I don't know what did
he get there? A couple of yards it was blocked
for nothing. That Wisconsin really held that point in a
really good way.

Speaker 3 (26:24):
He ended up really fighting hard. I think he maybe
picked up a yard or two.

Speaker 2 (26:27):
Yeah, were getting two second down and eight at the
Wisconsin nine. Young in there at running back now trips
to the left, Simpson reeds Keeves trying to work off
the right side, leaves his way inside the five and
down to about the four yard line of Wisconsin. Austin
Brown getting in there defensively for the Badgers. It'll be

(26:49):
a third down and about three for Alabama ball restling
at the four yard line of Wisconsin.

Speaker 8 (26:54):
Yeah, it just ran basically a little read option, and
the option was Simpson had to take it, and he
not a lot there. He did a nice job of
falling forward, getting it inside the five.

Speaker 3 (27:05):
Setting up inside inside the five yard line. Here down
going in.

Speaker 2 (27:10):
Three twenty left of the first quarter. Nose score trips
to the right. Young the running back Josh Quavis the
tied end motions to the formation and here's a stamp
handoff goes to Young, hits it off the left side
and its close to the first down. Yeah, Brandon Lane
and some others in there. It looks like a little
bit short. They'll mark at the two, so it'll be

(27:35):
a fourth down and one for Alabama. Two fifty left
in a scoreless first quarter.

Speaker 8 (27:42):
Brandon Lane has had a really good possession. He just
came off brought in Dylan Johnson. Now it looks like
there's some shuffling. Let's see if they slow down for substitutions.

Speaker 2 (27:52):
Yes, yep, Simpson under center on fourth and one at
the Wisconsin too. Okay, the Badger's come up big. Here's
a and off off the left side. Bernard dies to
the pilon touchdown Alabama.

Speaker 9 (28:06):
They go to the receiver Jeremy.

Speaker 2 (28:08):
Bernard, just enough room off the left side, and Alabama
is first on the board.

Speaker 8 (28:14):
Fourth and short in Wisconsin's defense. Run defense has been stout.
Alabama not thinking quarterback sneak or anything inside. They go
to their wide out on a perimeter run and it
was close, but he just had a little too much speed.
He was able to get to the corner and sneak
it in the left pylon for a touchdown.

Speaker 2 (28:32):
They line up Bernard in the backfield and able to
just break the plane. Good effort on his part, No
doubt they were taking a long look up stairs at
that before the extra point is attempted and good to go.

(28:53):
Connor Tulty is on for the pat. So Alabama pays
off the interception and it turned it into a sixty
one yard scoring drive. As Talty is out there pull
the pat, it is in the air and it is good.

Speaker 9 (29:13):
So a'll break in the action. You're at Bryant Denny Stadium.

took six and a half minutes. Jeremy Bernard lining up

(31:40):
on the backfield, the receiver be able to slip around
the left edge and get into the end zone. Ty
Simpson a big factor in that drive though, the quarterback
four to four, including that big fourth down and nine row.
Alabama leading seven nothing with two twenty four left in
the first.

Speaker 8 (31:55):
Quarter, and Wisconsin did a really good job. But you
have to love what they've done. Again, it's the run now,
I guess this is the tricky part. When you have
a lot of talent and you're trying to cut, you
have to take one thing away when they counter, what
do you do? Because they started, Simpson got into a
really good rhythm and then a little jet sweep there
to finish that drive off. But Alabama's finding it very

(32:17):
difficult to run into the middle of this defense. Now
Wisconsin has to figure out how do we slow down
that passing game on first and second down, because the
last thing you want to do is let Simpson get
into a real nice rhythm, which is what he did
on that drive.

Speaker 2 (32:31):
And I'll be it against a lesser opponent last week
Louisiana Monroe. He was seventeen of seventeen in that game.
He's five of his first six. Here today, Vinnie Anthony,
kid Yakamelli or deep Connor Tolty is set to kick
off seven to nothing Alabama with two minutes and twenty
four seconds left in the first quarter. Kick is away

(32:51):
and Vinnie Anthony again will let it hit me into
the end zone for the touchback at the rail Transport
Broadcast booth, Mark Tasha, I'm Matt Lapey saban Field at Bryant's.

Speaker 9 (33:04):

Speaker 2 (33:08):

to nothing, Alabama leeds Wisconsin back in the moment.

Speaker 8 (35:17):
So normally, I think, from my perspective, a quarterback makes
a bad throw. Obviously that was just the he either
didn't see him or a predetermined his read, and you
start getting a little bit nervous if they're going to
tighten up a little bit and then get even more
careful with the football. But in the limited amount of
time you've seen Danny O'Neal that's not a concern. He's

(35:38):
one of these guys you see him or get in
the huddles. He's got a ton of emotion. He's got
his guys behind his back. You want to see him.
Just continue to go out and rip it. You can't
start playing a little bit tighter because you made one mistake.
Now you build off of and you try and reset
get back out there. You hear Luke Fickle say complimentary
football a lot. When you give up a play like

(36:00):
that in the defense, you hope they stopped.

Speaker 3 (36:01):
They didn't.

Speaker 8 (36:02):
Now it's up to the offense to say, we need
to redeem ourselves here and go put together a nice
long drive.

Speaker 9 (36:08):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (36:08):
Talking with Danny, he he openly admits he plays this
game with a chip on his shoulder.

Speaker 9 (36:13):
And you know, the recruiting traffic wasn't.

Speaker 2 (36:15):
What he thought it would be coming out of high
school at a very good year. It'san diego's day playing
for Shawn Lewis, the former Badger, the head coach out
there and had it all console, all conference recognition and
wanted to test himself at the highest level. Came in
here thinking that he was going to be the number two.
Billy Edwards by the way back in shorts. I know

(36:35):
he was listed as questionable, but there was never any
drama that who the quarterback would be this week. This
is O'Neill's show, and it's doubt said. Let's see how
he bounces back here from the twenty five of Wisconsin
first and ten as a little misdirection, toss goes nowhere,
Alabama all over, a little jet motion with tretch kekahuna

(36:56):
and then it tossed the other way and nothing doing,
and it's second out in law Wisconsin. Darian Dupree was
the ball carriers second down and ten for the Badgers
at their twenty five yard line.

Speaker 8 (37:06):
There's no doubt Wisconsin wants to make Alabama play the
fifty three and a third width of the football field
and you want to get guys out that It almost
felt like it was a little bit bunched and you
didn't give enough space for Dupree to go and he
ended up running into a defensive lineman brought him down earlier.

Speaker 2 (37:21):
Dupree remains the running back. Two receivers either side. Jayden
Ballard wide left now starts the motions Ard the formation
shotgun stamp O'Neill. He'll give it to Dupree across the
twenty five and Kway Russau is there gets help from
three or four of his teammates and Dupree for just
a couple to the twenty seven of Wisconsin, where it's
now third down and.

Speaker 8 (37:41):
Eight at that defensive end there, did a nice job
of reading that and collapsing down. Danny is gonna probably
have to hold both some of those that make that
defensive end respect that outside run slot.

Speaker 9 (37:52):
Left slot rights.

Speaker 2 (37:54):
O'Neil gets the stamp Alabama bringing four throw right side
that is caught up near the forty yard line of Wisconsin.
That's Darrion Dupree brought down by the linebacker Nikai hill
Green as Wisconsin converts brush set of downs at the
Badger's forty yard line.

Speaker 3 (38:10):
I went a little tempo there and O'Neill had his.

Speaker 8 (38:13):
Eyes locked on Dupree that entire time. Just a little
wheel route and delivered it right in stride.

Speaker 3 (38:18):
Dupre did a heck of a job to hold on
to that football because as he was catching it, contact
was coming. Big first down pick.

Speaker 2 (38:25):
Up forty five seconds left of the first quarter, seven
to nothing, Alabama double wide to the right four Wisconsin.
O'Neil drops back into the shotgun. He has Dupree to
his left, snap to O'Neill reads Keith's flips right side,
caught by Darrion Dupree across the forty yard line. Deyonte
lost to the linebacker getting over there defensively for the
Tide and a short gain just a yard to the

(38:47):
forty one of Wisconsin on what could be the final
play of the first quarter, second down to nine for
the Badgers.

Speaker 8 (38:52):
Had good patience there by O'Neil, so a little fake
run and a little leak out and got it to Dupria.
That shows you the talent that Alabama has. A one
on one you're hoping you're back can make a guy miss.
Nice chop of breaking down and not really giving up
much maybe a yard man.

Speaker 2 (39:08):
The Badgers will let the first quarter clock expire as
we hit the end of the first fifteen minutes. Wisconsin
interception or thrown by Danny O'Neill of Wisconsin. Alabama turns
out into a sixty one yard scoring drive with the

Oregon on the Road at Northwestern leads seven to nothing

their twenty third ranked in the country.

Speaker 5 (41:58):

Speaker 29 (42:00):

against Towson State Man.

At seven to nothing Alabama, as we begin the second quarter,
the Badgers will have a first and ten at their
own forty one yard line.

Speaker 9 (42:29):
Danny O'Neal in the first.

Speaker 2 (42:30):
Quarter four out of five twenty two yards an interception
Ty Simpson five out of six for fifty two yards
is seventy four yards of offense for a tie twenty
seven for Wisconsin through the first fifteen minutes.

Speaker 9 (42:47):
Badger's stingy against.

Speaker 2 (42:49):
The run Alabama twenty two yards and Alabama's defense even
stingier five allowed so far on the ground, two receivers left,
two receivers right. Badgers go right to left. As we
see in the second quarter, dere Andrew pre Sprintston motioned
to the left. Is O'Neil under pressure and sacked Quay Russa.
It's to the quarterback and that was a clean path

(43:11):
and a Badger is down and still down.

Speaker 3 (43:15):
It's Renfro.

Speaker 2 (43:16):
Yeah, Jake Renfro, as we mentioned, it has been all
he could do to just get on the field, played
in the opener, was banged up in training camp and
the miss last week.

Speaker 9 (43:29):
And is giving it a go now.

Speaker 2 (43:31):
I would tell you the Badgers have They have wrapped
both Kerry kadonco and Ryan Cory at center. Man, you
just got to feel terrible for Jake Renfro who is
having trouble catching any kind of good fortune and staying
on the field.

Speaker 8 (43:46):
You give him a ton of credit because you see
how he's been battling he you know, down in Plattfull
he kind of got banged up a little bit, got
back and you give him a ton of credit for
getting out here. I don't know if we expected him
to kind of be on a pitch count today.

Speaker 3 (43:59):
I've got rolled up on that.

Speaker 8 (44:01):
Play Emerson Mendel just a little bit late at right
tackle out of the snap, and that was a very
quick beat. You have to get a little bit get
much on Russo and that was what's set up this
third and fourteen coming up.

Speaker 2 (44:18):
Back at the thirty six yard line of Wisconsin. Russaw
good edge player Richard sophomore out of Montgomery, Alabama actually
was he was hurt early in the game against Wisconsin
last year. So it is third down and fourteen, Wisconsin
back at its thirty six yard line.

Speaker 9 (44:37):
So Danny O'Neal and company up against it again.

Speaker 2 (44:39):
Jayden Ballard wide to the left, O'Neil back to thrill pockets,
tig sacked again, London Simmons getting the quarterback to the
ground just.

Speaker 9 (44:47):
Outside the twenty six yard line.

Speaker 2 (44:49):
And these are fears confirmed here with this offensive line
just trying to find some cohesiveness and Alabama teeing off
against it.

Speaker 8 (45:00):
Yeah, Russaw off the edge, you end up leaving your
tight end to the chip and that was the case
where it just kind of came through our center and
right guard a little too quickly.

Speaker 3 (45:09):
When you have a playmaker, you need to get out
there and block.

Speaker 8 (45:12):
You lead more one on ones. Wisconsin could hold up
on that one.

Speaker 2 (45:15):
Anchus Bertram's on the punt line of scrimmage. The Badger's
twenty seven Cole Adams is deep. He'll let it hit inside.
The thirty five now plays at the thirty three, across
the thirty five, across the forty penalty markers fly as
Adams dives up near the forty five yard line, and
check this out. That was a thirty nine yard punt.
Fourteen on the return is trying to get Atticus.

Speaker 12 (45:40):
Bertram's going a big year too, holding return team number
two ten yard penalty.

Speaker 3 (45:46):
It is first down.

Speaker 2 (45:47):
Say Anakus has a big leg, and you just you
haven't really seen that in some of his punts here
in these first couple of ball games. And change thirteen
fifty one left of the second quarter. It's seven to
nothing Alabama, and after that penalty, the Tide will start
at its thirty five yard line.

Speaker 3 (46:03):
And today is a day you need Bertram's to be
at his best.

Speaker 8 (46:06):
Very fortunate there that Alabama held, Otherwise they're starting on
their side of the forty You have to make this
offense go the distance.

Speaker 3 (46:14):
Give this defense a chance to make some place.

Speaker 2 (46:17):
That Young in the secondary now work in a safety
spot alongside Preston Zackman Amilio a guard as the boundary
corner position. From the thirty five of Alabama. First in ten,
Ty Simpson in the gun reads it, keeps it looks,
throws over the middle. That's taught by the tight end Quavis,
who gets smacked by Preston Zackman at the forty four

(46:37):
yard line. Still a gain of nine second down and
one for Alabama. Josh Cuavis, the fifth year senior tight
end out of Los Angeles on the receiving end. O's
are Brooks slot to the right on second and one
Alabama for its own forty four yard line. Richard Young
is the running back to the right of the quarterback.
Simpson drops the throw, looking under.

Speaker 9 (46:58):
Pressure and down he goes.

Speaker 2 (47:00):
Christian Alegro comes in and blows through the offensive line
of Alabama. Simpson take it down of the thirty yard line.

Speaker 3 (47:10):
You love that.

Speaker 8 (47:11):
On a second and one, they're taking a shot and Allegro,
their back, goes to pick him up, and Allegro said, no,
I think I'm going to displace you and go and
sack the quarterback ran right through him. It was actually
blocked well by Alabama in scheme, but not in execution.

Speaker 3 (47:27):
Allegro would not allow it.

Speaker 8 (47:28):
Great big time play at a big time needed opportunity.

Speaker 2 (47:32):
It's third and fifteen Alabama and its own thirty yard line.
Two receivers tied left, Jeremy Bernard to the right. Simpson
looking throws over the middle. That's cart thirty five across
the forty yard line and up to about the forty two.
Joe's the receiver Isaiah Horton. And there are penalty markers
in the Alabama backfield.

Speaker 12 (47:54):
Personal foul rough in the past, number twenty two on
the new fence fifteen yard pillot.

Speaker 2 (48:00):
From the end of the run first down, they get
Mason Rieger as a gift wrapped the first down here
for Alabama, it's the badger's making the mistakes that an
underdog flat out cannot make, as Rager got there a
good beat maybe two after the throw.

Speaker 9 (48:21):
In the old days, it's just a part of it.

Speaker 2 (48:24):
But they protect quarterbacks at this level pretty close to
how they protect him in the NFL. And it's a
first down now for Alabama at the Wisconsin forty three
yard line.

Speaker 8 (48:34):
Yeah, those are the mistakes you can't make. And I
understand why they made that call. He was he was
a beat late and he drilled him and at first
down Bama.

Speaker 2 (48:43):
So the drive continues. Pistol formation. Now Riley backetted running
back that will lie to the left. Simpson back to throw, looking,
shoots it over the middle. That's caught by Bernard at
the twenty. At the ten, at the five touchdown, Alabama
as once again the Crimson Tide, taking advantage of a
Wisconsin mistake.

Speaker 30 (49:05):
Yeah.

Speaker 8 (49:05):
I think that mistake is gonna loom really large because
Alabama just decided we're gonna throw the football at first down.

Speaker 3 (49:11):
We haven't been able to run it.

Speaker 8 (49:13):
Great sell, really good pass protection gave them all day
in the field opened up and as a pretty easy
pitch and catch there from Simpson.

Speaker 2 (49:23):
Well you go from getting off the field and instead
of penalty, extends the drive and just like that, they
get in a forty three yard pitch and catch from
Simpson to Bernard as Connor Tlty is on for the
pat it is in the air and it is good.

Speaker 9 (49:42):
So they get fourteen to nothing.

(52:05):
the passer extends an Alabama possession. Tys Simpson pays it
off of the forty three yard strike to Jeremy Bernard
capped a four plays sixty five yard drive twelve oh
five left in the half.

Speaker 9 (52:16):
Alabama fourteen, Wisconsin nothing.

Speaker 8 (52:19):
If you're trying to pull off an upset, you obviously
need to play clean football. And Wisconsin makes throws the interception,
and then Alabama goes down and scores, and then you
do get it back. You're in a position Allegro makes
an unbelievable rush gets him and I don't know if
they would have went for it. They picked up a
good chunk, but you give your team a chance to

(52:39):
get off the field, and unfortunately you make a late
hit on the quarterback and then that sets it up
and now Wisconsin is in that danger zone where you're behind.

Speaker 3 (52:48):
You didn't want to be.

Speaker 8 (52:49):
Dropping back all day against this pass rush the way
it was with your young team. So a big challenge
ahead for Wisconsin's offense here in the second quarter.

Speaker 2 (52:57):
Bet the Anthony Kid Jacobelli RDEP was moving right to
left as we view its from our real Transport broadcast booth.
As Talty runs up and the kick is away and
Vinny will let it hit into the end zone for
the touchbacks. Get an update on jake Renfro as we
check in with Patrick.

Speaker 11 (53:17):
Unfortunately, jake Renfro has not left the U to B
Health Medical ten since going in there when he got injured.
I think that's probably a bad sign, you know, especially
knowing what he was dealing with going into this game.
The other thing that is an issue right now for
Wisconsin is that Kerry Kobdonko is likely not going to
appear to start this drive either, meaning Ryan Corey is
Wisconsin center on this drive, a redshirt freshman. That brings

(53:39):
the total of redshirt freshman now on the offensive line
to three.

Speaker 10 (53:42):
Not ideal in a scenario like this.

Speaker 2 (53:44):
No, for sure, they repped all three this week saw
Corey a little bit. Last week, ka Donko tried to
go after jake Renfro had to come out of the game.
Of that last possession under center is Danny O'Neal on
first and ten he pulls back in the hand off
to Dylan Jones and he gets stun up up and
driven back Justin Jefferson, the linebacker leading the charge. Little

(54:05):
if any gain on the play. Second down coming up
with the Badgers. Maybe a half a yard was all
he got on that first down running attempt.

Speaker 3 (54:12):
That's a big ask.

Speaker 8 (54:13):
You have three very young players between center, right guard,
and right tackle, and you just try to run his
own play right now. Obviously, Corey is thinking, let's just
make sure we get our snaps, keep that tight, and
then let's figure this other stuff out.

Speaker 2 (54:25):
N space and the tight end of the right side.
Jackson Aker in the backfield, Dylan Jones behind O'Neill, the
pistol said. On second down, O'Neil looks to throw four
man rush. Danny in trouble steps up, he'll run across
a twenty five and then dives up near the thirty
yard line. So O'Neil gets a little something out of it.
Third down and five four Wisconsin for the Badgers thirty.

Speaker 8 (54:45):
Really good job there by O'Neil of recognizing the rush.
Alabama ran a little stunt over off of Wisconsin's right
side of its offensive line. He saw that that was coming,
was able to sneak through and then aggressively go pick
up yards and give yourself a chance. Here manageable third
down at five.

Speaker 2 (55:02):
Jayon Ballard tretch, Keka Huno will come out to the right,
Vinnie Anthony to the left. Dylan Jones remains the running
back to the right of O'Neill. Then the shotgun, big
third and five here for Wisconsin. Anthony breaks in motion
left to right, snap to O'Neill, rolls to his right,
throws back to his left. Mason s space thirty thirty
five Mason to the forty weaving of the forty five.

(55:23):
Let's Mason up near field near midfield. Brayson Hubbard Xavier
Minzi are there out of the secondary to make the stop.
And a beautiful call and beautifully executed first down on
a gain of nineteen.

Speaker 3 (55:36):
Oh do I love that you move the pocket? You
have a young center in there.

Speaker 8 (55:40):
You roll out to the right, and I'm sure Alabama
is thinking they're gonna run a little outright at the
sticks to try to pick up that first down. They
leake Malman the left tackle over and pick up a
beautifully does I play on first down?

Speaker 2 (55:51):
Quick toss Dylan Jones trying to work off the right
side and he gets wrapped up at the fifty. Justin
Jefferson over there, penalty markers in the.

Speaker 9 (56:02):
Secondary, twelve guys.

Speaker 2 (56:04):
Yeah, probably based on where those penalty flags were thrown.
We have exactly ten minutes left to the first half,
fourteen to nothing. Alabama officials talking it over and a

(56:27):
rather lengthy discussion, and here comes the call.

Speaker 12 (56:38):
Ay, look at substitution on the defense. Twelve on the field,
five yard penalty.

Speaker 3 (56:43):
We play first down. Well, that was interesting, Matt.

Speaker 8 (56:47):
Wisconsin had everybody to the right of Ryan Corey their center,
and I think they were going to shift, but you
saw that Alabama didn't sub and they snapped it early
to get that twelve men on the field and pick
up the three five yards. That's at tempo getting there,
setting up and trying to confuse Alabama a little bit
with some of their personnel and some of their shifting,

(57:08):
and that time it worked.

Speaker 2 (57:09):
And it'll be a first in five for the Badgers.
At the Alabama forty six yard line, Jaden Valery Chris
Brooks come out to the right crystal formation, Dylan Jones
the running back now Jackson acer into the backfield as well.
Jones breaks in motion to the right, snap to O'Neil,
looks the throw drifting to his ride. He'll check it
to Dylan Jones at the fifty to the forty five
and bites his way down to about the forty three

(57:32):
or forty two yard line of Alabama. It'll be a
second down and two as they mark at the forty
three of the time.

Speaker 8 (57:41):
Nice job by Jones there of just eluding that first linebacker.
That's going to be a big thing today, trying to
not get tackled by the first guy. Does a nice
job of eluding. Picking up a couple of yards. You're
setting up a very manageable second and two.

Speaker 2 (57:56):
Well, the Alabama forty three yard line. Did the Anthony
Chris Brooks double wide to the left, Grant steck Wing
on the right side, Kid Jacamelli in the backfield, Dylan
Jones as well. Here's the gift to Yakamelli trying to
hit it off the right side of the forty one
is driven back progress and worst is very close to
a first down. He may have it and they are

(58:17):
signaling that he does. At the forty one yard line
of Alabama, first and ten Wisconsin.

Speaker 3 (58:24):
Yeah, a lot of movement.

Speaker 8 (58:25):
They're really good job by Malman to at least get
enough to let Yakamelli get north and south.

Speaker 3 (58:31):
Didn't get it by much.

Speaker 8 (58:32):
But I always love when it's on the Wisconsin side
and that line judge comes floating in shoving that first down.
Every first down here's critical. Nice job by Yakimelli, you
being able.

Speaker 2 (58:41):
To pick that up eight twenty in county left and
the half fourteen to nothing Alabama, but Wisconsin's on the move.
Two receivers left, one to the right, O'Neil in the shotgun,
Kaka Houda slot left, motions right and they're gonna give
it the tretch off the right side tries to bring
it back. Penalty markers fly as Kakahuna works his way
to the thirty eight of Alabama. The penalty marker in
the Wisconsin backfield.

Speaker 3 (59:03):
Somebody's helmet was off y lt overten.

Speaker 2 (59:06):
Y lt overten the edge one of the edge players
for Alabama.

Speaker 9 (59:15):
As we will get the call.

Speaker 12 (59:16):
The little foul hands in the face number fifty six
on the offense fifteen yard headly first down number twenty
two may remain in the game for Alabama.

Speaker 2 (59:27):
Yeah, that was Joe Brunner, the left guard. As Wisconsin
really really hurting itself with penalties in this game.

Speaker 9 (59:33):
They haven't had many, but you know.

Speaker 2 (59:36):
They had one that wiped out a pick play that
wiped out a first down, or roughing the passer that
extended a possession. Alabama cashed in and now this third
penalty for Wisconsin has him back to their forty four
yard line where it's first and twenty five eight O
seven left and a half fourteen to nothing. Alabama receivers

(01:00:00):
right Chris Brooks to the left, Dylan Jones the running back,
O'Neill in the shotgun. Ryan Cory is the center, sends
it back to O'Neill has time scans now running out
of time, runs off to his right, chased by James Smith,
and he'll be escorted to the boundary across the forty
five to about the forty seven or forty eight yard
line of Smith, the big defensive lineman.

Speaker 9 (01:00:21):
He is shaking up.

Speaker 2 (01:00:22):
He's over at the Alabama bench area and just crawling
over to get some medical attention.

Speaker 8 (01:00:29):
O'Neil again showed his elusiveness there. A pretty good initial
job by Wisconsin's offensive line of holding up in the
protection and then was able to when the rush did
get to him, elude and at least pick up some
positive yardage well at.

Speaker 2 (01:00:43):
The forty eight of Wisconsin segoed out in twenty one.
O'Neil ducks under his center now pulls back and around Tyrell.
Henry needs a block from Aker, gets one from him,
and Brayson Hubbard closed the gate at the midfield straw
as Henry advances to the forty nine and there's the speed,

(01:01:03):
the aggressive nature of the Alabama defense. It's third down
and long for Wisconsin.

Speaker 8 (01:01:09):
And that's the difference when you see a middle Tennessee
state in in Alabama, you have those long, developing plays.

Speaker 3 (01:01:15):
We saw those end to.

Speaker 8 (01:01:16):
Rounds last week go for big plays that was blocked
and actually set up really well, but the speed of
Alabama coming downhill was able to get him before he
could get started.

Speaker 2 (01:01:27):
Third and eighteen Wisconsin at the Alabama forty nine yard line.
The receivers right, Chris Brooks out to the left, Dylan
Jones is the running back. O'Neill shotgun staff. They'll run
it with Dylan Jones inside the forty five down to
about the forty three yard line and that's it. M
Ky Hill Green getting involved among others defensively, so they

(01:01:49):
keep it safe. On third down and eighteen, the ball
is at the forty three yard line of Alabama and
they will send on the punt team with Atticus Bertram's
hoping penn Alabama deep.

Speaker 8 (01:02:01):
I'm sure there's a lot of Badger fans frustrated. Third
and eighteen and you run an inside draw play, but
you have to kind of take a look at the
big picture here. You have three young players you're trying
to protect and not make a critical mistake.

Speaker 2 (01:02:13):
It's fourth and twelve as Bertram steps up and the
kick is away as Adams well, well, actually he lets
it fly and Jayden Ballard racing down there, is able
to catch it at the two yard line of Alabama.
So that works, and now we'll see what the Wisconsin
defense can do after a forty one yard punta at
a beauty off the foot of Atticus Bertram's. Badger Fans

Alabama leaves fourteen to nothing over Wisconsin five three. The
first half title'll be taken over at the Alabama two
as we check it again with Patrick.

Speaker 11 (01:05:04):
Official injury reports that we expected Jake Renfrost questionable with
a lower body injury and Kerry Cadonko questionable with an
upper body injury, something he's been dealing with prior to today's game.
So one stat that we talked about pregame that was
important in this one is time of possession, and.

Speaker 10 (01:05:19):
It's been a little misleading.

Speaker 11 (01:05:20):
I guess Wisconsin actually leads the time of possession thirteen
minutes and forty two seconds compared to ten thirty five
for Alabama. Part of that is Alabama had a three
pay touchdown drive. But if you're looking for silver linings
that Wisconsin has been able to get some first downs
and keep the ball and hopefully this defense is a
little bit fresher than maybe they would be.

Speaker 2 (01:05:37):
Yeah, they got Alabama backed up at its own two
yard line. Kevin Riley is the running back, Simpson of
the shotgun about four yards deep.

Speaker 9 (01:05:44):
In his end zone.

Speaker 2 (01:05:46):
Parker Brailsford is the center. Is Simpson will give it
to Riley. If presaught the right side to the five,
he's to the ten. Riley's stiff arms of man and
gets it up across the ten yard line. Austin Brown
able to drive him out of bounds, and that's the
first down run for the Tide.

Speaker 9 (01:06:02):
It's just like that.

Speaker 2 (01:06:03):
They get a little bit of space across the ten
yard line, marking around the twelve first and ten.

Speaker 8 (01:06:09):
Just a little bit too much room off of the
right tackle of Alabama, and then Austin Brown battling, battling
to get him down, finally shoved him out of bounds,
but not until he picked up ten and gave Alabama
a bunch of room to operate.

Speaker 2 (01:06:21):
We'll call it closer to the eighteen or the thirteen
yard line. Beg your pardon, Williams. Mosh has left the
toss to the riot. Here's Riley and he gets slammed
into my tack at Curtis. Maybe a yard, but that's
one you felt as tack At Curtis just threw his
body into the running back. A gain of one to

(01:06:41):
the fourteen of Alabama's second down and nine.

Speaker 3 (01:06:43):
Yeah, you heard that.

Speaker 8 (01:06:44):
A little fake off to the left and a flipout
to the right, and Curtis read it right away, went
downhill and threw. As he said, man threw his body.
I mean I'd like to see wrap up a little
bit more, but really brought the stick on that hit.

Speaker 2 (01:06:58):
Four and a half minutes left of the second, fourteen
to nothing. Alabama the Tide with the second and nine
at their own fourteen yard line. Two receivers right, one
on the left, God the break out the Tide, Quavis
to the right, Simpson looking throwing left in a sliding
catchmade at the twenty yard line by Isaiah Horton. Ricardo
Holman over there. Defensively, it'll be a third down and

(01:07:18):
three for the Tide at the Alabama twenty.

Speaker 8 (01:07:22):
And the tricky part here, You know, if you're Tressel
trying to figure out how to cover and what you
want to do, you obviously have to respect the speed
that Alabama has on the perimeter, but you also can't
sit back and just let these dinked and dunks.

Speaker 3 (01:07:35):
It's a real battle that he's gonna have to keep fighting.

Speaker 2 (01:07:38):
For the Alabama twenty third and three trips to the left.
Riley the running back, Simpson in the shotgun takes the snap,
Badgers send for Simpson over the middle, as caught by
Bernard across the twenty five breaks to his right, brought
down to the twenty six yard line and the third
down conversion again for Alabama. Austin Brown is there defensively

(01:07:58):
as the tide now three out of five if this stands,
was a penalty marker over by the Alabama sideline, so
hang on.

Speaker 5 (01:08:15):
Holding on the defense.

Speaker 12 (01:08:17):
Number six ten penalty automatic first down.

Speaker 2 (01:08:22):
That's a million a guard the red shirt freshman. So
another Wisconsin penalty and it's a first down for Alabama
at its thirty yard line with three point thirty one
left in the first half, fourteen to nothing. The Crimson time.

Speaker 3 (01:08:35):
Alabama just ran a basic shallow cross.

Speaker 8 (01:08:38):
He was able to find some space and then avoided
the hit of tack at Curtis and was able to
pick it up. But it didn't matter yep, because of
the penalty.

Speaker 2 (01:08:46):
So a pistol formation Riley, they're running back Tea Edwards.
That tied end was wide left. Motions to the formation
first and ten Alabama, so you get laked in the
second quarter, sent some little play fake rops. The throw
fires to the right and it is caught by Ryan Williams.
He'll step out of bounds in front of Riccardo Holman

(01:09:07):
on the Wisconsin side of the fifty though market at
the forty eight in Badger territory.

Speaker 3 (01:09:12):
Another big time throw by Simpson. I was watching that unfold.

Speaker 8 (01:09:16):
Ricardo did a pretty good job, but Williams sold like
he was going to run a post and then just
broke it out in a very good coverage. Tough throw,
but Williams, with that special talent, was able to create
a lot of separation and a big play.

Speaker 2 (01:09:29):
Williams had a big first half of the season last year,
a freshman star thirty one catches the last six games
he had, but seventeen receptions from the forty eight of
Wisconsin first and ten. Isaiah Horton, a receiver motions right
to left. It'll play fake Simpson drifting to his right,
looking chase by Austin Brown, and he will.

Speaker 9 (01:09:49):
Be caught by Aaron Wit.

Speaker 2 (01:09:52):
Aaron Wit hangs in there and makes the play outside
the forty five yard line of Wisconsin near the forty seven,
so about the line of scrimmage. Little if anything on
the gain on the play for Ty Simpson. The'll market
right at the forty eight. So it's second down and
ten for Alabama as we hit the two minute time out,
or we are about to here in Tuscaloosa and we

(01:10:13):
are at it right now, so again the Badger defense
doing what it can. It'll be a second and ten
for Alabama when play continues. At US Bank, we team

Alabama fourteen, Wisconsin nothing. The Tide will have a second
and ten at the Badgers forty eight yard line of
play picks up.

Speaker 8 (01:12:39):
So, I mean, when you come into this game, you think,
all right, you have to stop the run, you have
to run the football. And obviously I think Wisconsin has
done a very good job sans the you know play
coming off the goal line here they gave up ten
or eleven yards.

Speaker 3 (01:12:52):
Been really stout against the run. But the receiving corps for.

Speaker 8 (01:12:55):
Alabama has been really good. They've made big plays.

Speaker 24 (01:12:59):
You know.

Speaker 8 (01:12:59):
Obviously We'llilliams, we all know about him, but Bernard has
been good. Getting on the flip side of that, Wisconsin
has not been able to get their passing game going
outside of you know, a screen pass to Mason and
then balls out to their tailbacks. Wisconsin's receivers have yet
to catch a pass.

Speaker 3 (01:13:14):
Here with two minutes left in the second.

Speaker 2 (01:13:16):
Quarter, Alabama with twenty yards rushing. But as you mentioned,
their receivers are so good. Simpson's been on point ten
of eleven for one hundred and forty four yards, including
a forty three yard touchdown pass at Jeremy Bernard. So
here we go, second and ten for the tie, going
left to right. As we view it of the second quarter,
Simpson under center, has three receivers to the left, Ryan Williams,

(01:13:38):
one of them motions to the right. Simpson off the
play fake back to throw, lets it fly over the middle.
That's caught by Brooks at the thirty yard line. Preston
Zachman whips him down. There's Laes there, Brooks, the freshman
receiver with a first and ten at the thirty two
of Wisconsin. I've ben at fifty three left in the
first half.

Speaker 3 (01:13:57):
Yeah, too much protection there.

Speaker 8 (01:13:59):
Alabama runs there, has their receivers out and are out,
and their tailback does a great job of picking up
Austin Brown and then there's four white jerseys and he
fits it in there beautifully before Zachman can get him
to the ground.

Speaker 2 (01:14:12):
We'll work the clock a little bit of minute thirty
five remaining in the first half. Fourteen to nothing. Alabama
two receivers left, one on the right, ball at the
Badger's thirty two yard line. Jeremy Bernard wide right, motions left,
will fake the jet to him.

Speaker 9 (01:14:24):
Simpson throwing to the left.

Speaker 2 (01:14:26):
It's caught by Riley, a hard collision from Ricardo Holmon,
but Riley hangs on as he goes to the turf
at the thirteen yard line of Wisconsin.

Speaker 8 (01:14:36):
First down Alabama, and the protection again was very good
by Alabama. Their left tackle did a great job on Cheeks,
didn't let him step up in that pocket. And again,
pretty good coverage when you're talking about that zone. There's
three or four guys, but Simpson is putting the ball
where he needs to. Their receivers are going up and
high pointing the football and they're picking up big chunk plays.

Speaker 2 (01:14:56):
One minute left in the half, fourteen nothing Alabama, and
it's threatening. Kevin Riley motions to the backfield, double wife
to the right for the Wisconsin thirteen yard line. Shotgun staff,
Simpson reads it, keeps it, throws it over the middle
cut Isaiah Horton, touchdown Alabama.

Speaker 37 (01:15:13):
Oh.

Speaker 2 (01:15:13):
A beautiful throw from Tys Simpson. Horton snags it and
it's twenty to nothing Alabama. In the final minute of
the second.

Speaker 8 (01:15:22):
Quarter, Wisconsin brought the house, brought a ton of pressure.
They picked it up and then just again we've been
saying it, Simpson has found his rhythm.

Speaker 3 (01:15:31):
He is putting the ball where he needs to. Again.

Speaker 8 (01:15:34):
Coverage not bad because their wide receivers have been able
to make plays in that second in the end zone.

Speaker 3 (01:15:41):
There in another touchdown for Alabama.

Speaker 2 (01:15:43):
Donor tlty on to attempt the extra points and there's
Alabama now with a twenty one to nothing lead. An
eight play, ninety eight yard drive for Alabama. Amma, that
took four minutes at fifty eight seconds forty five seconds

(01:16:04):
left in the half, twenty one nothing Alabama back in
one minute.

Speaker 9 (01:16:08):

the Badgers at Alabama pinned at its own two yard line.

(01:17:35):
No problem, said the Alabama offense. He plays ninety eight yards,
four minutes, fifty eight seconds, Ty Simpson a thirteen yard
pass to Isaiah Horton forty five seconds left.

Speaker 9 (01:17:45):
In the half. Now twenty one to nothing, Alabama.

Speaker 3 (01:17:48):
That was the disappointing part.

Speaker 8 (01:17:49):
You haven't pinned, and you know obviously it's at that
point fourteen to nothing, that's where you're hoping your defense
needs to kind of bow up get the ball back,
and even if you can go down and get a
field goal, cut it.

Speaker 3 (01:18:00):
Fourteen to three. That's what you're kind of looking for.

Speaker 8 (01:18:02):
And they get the big chunk run, which is their
really only significant run that I've seen. The Wisconsin run
defense has been really good, but unfortunately Simpson looks like
Richard Todd was down here Joe Namath bart Starr. I mean,
he is look thirteen to fourteen for a buck ninety
two and two tutters that I did not have on

(01:18:25):
my Scrabble card for today's game, and that obviously can't
continue because he has found his rhythm. He has a
plethora of weapons that he can choose to go to,
and now that he's found that rhythm, it has been
very difficult to slow him down, and that's led to
this twenty one nothing.

Speaker 2 (01:18:43):
Deficit eighty six or the ninety eight yards on the
drive covered from the arm of Tye Simpson here in
this game. Yeah, it's and he's a departure from the
quote new normal of college football. Backup for three years,
he developed, worked, waited his.

Speaker 3 (01:19:02):
Turn, didn't leave when.

Speaker 8 (01:19:07):
I'm not here, and maybe he recognizes, hey, Jayleen Milroe
is a pretty good player.

Speaker 3 (01:19:12):
Maybe I'll learn some things.

Speaker 8 (01:19:13):
And you know, unfortunately for us, it seems as if
he's learned some things throwing the football, because he has
played almost a flawless first half.

Speaker 9 (01:19:22):
Of ball, and there's talent behind him.

Speaker 2 (01:19:25):
A red shirt sophomore Austin Mack, a five star true
freshman Keland Russell fretit Simpson as he has been next
to Flallas during this first half. Is Tulty with the
kick and again letting it sail over his head.

Speaker 9 (01:19:41):
To the back lene of the end zone. Is Vintie Anthony.

Speaker 2 (01:19:43):
And we'll see what the Badgers try to do here
with twenty the ball at the twenty five yard line
of forty five seconds left in the first half.

Speaker 8 (01:19:52):
Yeah, it's gonna be a tricky here because obviously you're
down twenty one and forty five seconds, you have timeouts.
Normally you'd say, what do you mean, it's tricky, let's go.
We need to go get points. You have to understand, too,
you have a third string center in there right now.

Speaker 9 (01:20:09):
Oh you don't.

Speaker 2 (01:20:09):
Jake renfro Is back in there, all right, Yeah, I
just noticed that.

Speaker 3 (01:20:14):
So let's go.

Speaker 2 (01:20:15):
Okay, let's see what they do here. Four receivers to
the right, and it's Mason motioning to the left. Here's
darry Andrew Pree running into the arms of the linebacker
Justin Jefferson, and he'll be stopped at the twenty nine
yard line. So there you with Jake just testing it
here at the end of the half with thirty seconds
left in its second down and six for the Badgers

(01:20:37):
at their twenty nine yard line.

Speaker 8 (01:20:39):
Well, whoever is playing center, it's still Jake's out there.
Does not look like Wisconsin is interested in doing a
lot here as the clock keeps tacking under twenty seconds.

Speaker 2 (01:20:49):
And they remain in their huddle. They don't have to
run a play here.

Speaker 3 (01:20:55):
It doesn't look like they're going to yep, I mean.

Speaker 2 (01:20:57):
And Alabama will receive in the second half and the
Tide will go into the locker room with a three
touchdown lead. So we hit halftime at stab and Field
at Bryant's Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa as the home fans
with a lot to cheer about through the first thirty minutes,

(01:21:18):
and we'll see what the Badgers can do to try
to make this thing a bit of a fight into
the second half. Halfway through, it's Alabama twenty one, Wisconsin.
Nothing coming up. Mike Keller has the halftime report presented
by American Family Insurance and sure carefully dream fearlessly. Mike's

We're at the half.

Speaker 29 (01:24:22):
It is Alabama on top of Wisconsin twenty one.

Speaker 5 (01:24:25):
Nothing.

Speaker 29 (01:24:26):
May give me a couple of the numbers that will
jump out and then talk about how this game has
gotten to this point. Alabama has two hundred and twelve
yards of total offense, one hundred and ninety two of
those are in the air. Wisconsin has fifty nine yards
of total offense and forty four yards in the air,
just fifteen rushing yards. Alabama only has twenty rushing yards
in the first half.

Speaker 5 (01:24:47):
But that's the difference.

Speaker 29 (01:24:47):
Bama figured out early that Wisconsin was going to load
the box and see if they couldn't stop the run.
They did, and Alabama has simply gone to the air.
And in going to the air, Ty Simpson is thirteen
or fourteen for one hundred and nine two yards and
two touchdowns. But here's part of the storyline when you're
gonna steal one on the road against a ranked team.
When Wisconsin got Alabama to turn it over on their

(01:25:10):
first possession on downs when they failed on a fourth
and two at their own forty six, Wisconsin took over
at Alabama's forty six, and on the first play, Danny
O'Neill throws an interception. Alabama turns that into an eleven
play sixty one yard touchdown drive and a couple other
numbers on the Badgers drives in the first half. Their
first drive, they faced a third and nineteen and punted

(01:25:34):
on fourth and twenty six. Their second drive is a
one play interception. Wisconsin's third drive faced a third and fourteen,
which resulted in a sack and a punt on fourth
and twenty three. The Badger's fourth drive faced a third
and eighteen, they punted on fourth and twelve, and then
the last drive is a one down play and one time.

(01:25:55):
When Wisconsin pins Alabama deep on a punt that was
down to the two yard line, Bama turns around and
goes eight plays in ninety eight yards for their third
touchdown of the first half.

Speaker 5 (01:26:06):
That's the score twenty one to Alabama. At the break.

I'm Mike Keller at is twenty one Nothing BAMA at
the break our American Family Insurance Time Report, American Family
Insurance and Sure Carefully Dream Fearlessly. We welcome in Bill Schmidt,
host of the Badger postgame show both of the network
and local level, along with Lance Allen after the game today, Billy,
there's a recipe that is to be had if you're

(01:33:15):
going to pull a significant upset, and this would be
a significant one, and it starts with that. You have
to play clean and by no measure as Wisconsin played
clean through thirty minutes.

Speaker 52 (01:33:26):
Yeah, easily to say it this way, Mike, but this
ain't it. You have an opportunity when you get the
ball inside of Alabama's territory after an aggressive decision by
Caylin de Boor and the Tide to try to get
their offense going go forward on fourth and down, fourth down,
you get the stop, You get the ball in Crimson
Tide territory and quickly throw it right back to the Tide.

(01:33:47):
I think Matt said it very well in the pregame
a couple of times with you, and you mentioned it
as well, Mike. Danny O'Neil got away with a couple
of balls a week ago against Middle Tennessee State that
you can get away with against a Conference USA opponent.
When you're talking about the SEC they close quickly, they
make adjustments very quickly, and the Badgers are going to
have to make a couple. The tough thing about the

(01:34:09):
toughest part about this, Mike is the middle eight is
a lot of times where the game is won and lost.
It was fourteen nothing when you approach that, but the
Badgers might really only have one snap. You gotta get
a stop here because otherwise your next full possession will
come when it's three maybe four score game.

Speaker 5 (01:34:26):
Yeah.

Speaker 29 (01:34:26):
The notes that I made off the first half, Billy,
I'll let you kind of comment on this is you
get that turnover on downs that you talked about in
the first play is the easiest interception you're going to see.
And then Alabama turns that obviously into a scoring drive
early second quarter, third and fifteen. When you're on defense
against Alabama, you get them into a third and fifteen
and then you get a roughing the passer penalty, and

(01:34:48):
on the next play Alabama hits on a forty three
yard touchdown throw. And then finally you punt to their
two yard line and they go eight plays and ninety
eight yards eighty six of them in the air.

Speaker 5 (01:35:00):
That tells the story.

Speaker 29 (01:35:01):
Alabama knows that Wisconsin has taking away their run game.
And they said, okay, we can do this in the air.

Speaker 52 (01:35:06):
Yeah, they're making Ty Simpson beatam and as Tausch said,
he's looking like Joe Namathan bart Starr, which is the
exact last thing that you could have anticipated. But at
least they've gotten him on the ground when he's moved.
And Mike, that's the one deal the outclass in the
speed variety. It hasn't felt like in the ground game.
But right now the Badgers have to find a way

(01:35:26):
to put something together.

Speaker 6 (01:35:27):
You're there.

Speaker 52 (01:35:28):
It looks hot. It looks hot from the air conditioned studio.
I can only imagine how the six to seven three
hundred plus pounders on the Badger's defensive line are feeling.

Speaker 3 (01:35:38):
You gotta be able to give them a little bit.

Speaker 52 (01:35:40):
Of rest here after getting a stop and put a
drive here together.

Speaker 9 (01:35:44):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (01:35:44):
Currently it's eighty seven.

Speaker 29 (01:35:46):
I mean, at least from a time of possession standpoint,
it's relatively even. In fact, it just favors Alabama by
about a minute at the break. Last one quick for you,
what would be the message at the half? Right now
Alabama's going to start with the football. What can Wisconsin
come out and do differently?

Speaker 52 (01:36:04):
Well, Mike I think this is all about competing, and
as much as people hate hearing playing for Pride, there
is a massive aspect of that.

Speaker 6 (01:36:11):
But there's also a lot of jobs on the line.

Speaker 52 (01:36:14):
You're playing right now with a backup quarterback, and if
Jake Renfro is able to go, we sure.

Speaker 3 (01:36:18):
Hope he is.

Speaker 52 (01:36:19):
But at times they're a third string center. There's a
lot of opportunity here and make it against whoever is
on the other side. Big ten plays starts a week
from now, and the season kind of gets a little
bit of new life right there. You have to play
thirty minutes of your best football if anything is going
to happen, but start with getting a first down in
stack some positive plays.

Speaker 29 (01:36:40):

Speaker 2 (01:39:47):
Twenty one and nothing. Alabama leeds Wisconsin at the half.
We check out some of the first half stats. Total
yards two twelve for the tie, just fifty nine for Wisconsin.
Tyz Simpson is thirteen fourteen through the air, one hundred
and ninety two yards and two touchdowns. Danny O'Neil six
out of seven forty four yards, one interception, no pass

(01:40:10):
completions to a wide receiver, running Backsterrian Dupree, Dylan Jones
getting involved tight ends Lance Mason and Grant Steck. The
penalties four for fifty five yards for Wisconsin. They have
been very very ill timed, either wiping out a first
down or giving Alabama a first down. It's just been

(01:40:32):
the defense touch at times, is doing some good things.
The offense with three different centers in this game here
so far. We'll see what Jake Renfrow does in the
second half. But they just can't get anything going offensively.

Speaker 3 (01:40:44):
It can't.

Speaker 8 (01:40:45):
And you know, we knew I think coming down here
that offensively it was going to be a bit of
a struggle. Obviously Alabama is very good on the defensive
side of the football, but a positive Obviously the run
defense has been incredibly stout twenty yards rushing to Alabama
and you're thinking, okay, but what you didn't anticipate or

(01:41:06):
hope I guess that wouldn't happen, was that Simpson has
been just he's been great. He's finding spots, he's he's
made a few really difficult throws. It's not as if
guys are running wide open, but they're too much protection.
I thought coming into it, I thought our front needed
to be incredibly disruptive on the defensive side of the ball.
So give Alabama's offensive line credit. They've done a really

(01:41:27):
good job of handling that, giving Simpson time, and Simpson
has found his plethora of weapons that he has at
the receiver spot. And that's why we're sitting here at
down twenty one.

Speaker 2 (01:41:38):
Well, let the Badgers kick off here and then we'll
check in with Patrick Herb as we get said to
begin the second half was Air Brooks and Kevin Riley
the deep men for Alabama as we get ready for
the second half of play, and actually that's Dre washing

(01:42:00):
in also deep with Brooks. Wisconstant kicking off. Alabama will
receive go right to left as we see it in
the second half of play, and Nathaniel Vacos with the
kick in the air and there will be no return
title start that it's twenty five yard line.

Speaker 9 (01:42:16):
As we check in with Patrick Kurr.

Speaker 10 (01:42:18):
The vibe in the locker room is going to be
sounded like coach peak, but but the message was that
you have to focus on the present, and not.

Speaker 11 (01:42:25):
Because this game is out of reach, but because you
have another choice.

Speaker 10 (01:42:28):
So the defense has has set the tone.

Speaker 11 (01:42:29):
They get the chance here to put up a statement
in terms of offense, though it's really trying to get
themselves in.

Speaker 10 (01:42:34):
Third and manageable. They've had five third downs.

Speaker 11 (01:42:36):
They've been third and nineteen third and eight third and
fourteen third and five third and eighteen. That's a hard
way to live, especially when you're already backed up against
this and you've got backup.

Speaker 9 (01:42:47):
Lineman playing that has been the case.

Speaker 2 (01:42:50):
Is Alabama first play for scrimmage at the second half,
Ryan Williams starts in motion, now reversed. Bernard tosses it
back to Simpson. He'll whip it short for Williams at
the twenty law. The numbers twenty thirty five, forty Williams
forty five, fifty down the sideline forty to the thirty.

Speaker 9 (01:43:05):
Alegro chasing. He has no chance.

Speaker 2 (01:43:07):
Ryan Williams all the way touchdown Alabama seventy five yards.

Speaker 8 (01:43:15):
Yeah, really well designed play. They had all kinds of
a fake and a flip back and then a flip
back to the quarterback and you're thinking they're gonna take.

Speaker 3 (01:43:23):
A shot down the field. Well they didn't.

Speaker 8 (01:43:25):
They set up a screen, got the ball in their
one of their best player's hands, and had every lineman
you can imagine out to set up a train track.
And it was dominant blocking and a quick score. Looks
like there's a flag and I think that's gonna be
on the sideline. The ref ran into one of the
coaches as he was running down on the touchdown.

Speaker 2 (01:43:48):
Twenty seven to nothing. Alabama as.

Speaker 9 (01:43:59):
Waiting for the call.

Speaker 12 (01:44:00):
Here the score is a touchdown, unsportsmanlike conduct, contacting running
into an official Alabama number fifty two on the sideline.
That penalty we enforced on the kickoff.

Speaker 2 (01:44:14):
Touchdown, So pat coming up and then there'll be assess
that on the kickoff as you just heard. Can't draw
it up any worse than that.

Speaker 3 (01:44:34):
No, you can't, No, you can't.

Speaker 2 (01:44:38):
Fifteen seconds gone by here in the third quarter, as
Ryan Williams on the deceiving end, a little tricker ration
and it worked to perfection for Alabama.

Speaker 9 (01:44:54):
As the pat is good.

Speaker 2 (01:44:56):
We are fifteen seconds into the third quarter from the
rail train word broadcast booth. Make it Alabama twenty eight
Wisconsin nothing, and you have.

Speaker 3 (01:45:07):
To give some credit.

Speaker 8 (01:45:08):
That was Obviously every team has some trick plays, and
you think when you're ahead twenty one nothing, I think
initially from Wisconsin's standpoint, you're probably thinking they're going to
come out, try to chew the clock, have a long drive. Well,
they went for the juggler there on a flip flip
to your wide up, flip to your back and a
fleet flicker like type action. Wisconsin actually covered down on

(01:45:33):
the one man route pretty well, but unfortunately we didn't
see Williams kind of sneak off to the left side.
And when you want to talk about executing a screenplay,
not having your lineman go downfield and wait to set
up a convoy. That is as good of a convoy
as you're going to see. It was incredibly well executed
and unfortunately a huge play to start this second half.

Speaker 3 (01:45:57):
Not going Wisconsin's way.

Speaker 2 (01:45:59):
Calein Dvore and the offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb, he'd been
connected for a while, including Fresno State to the two
years of Washington together again here in Tuscaloosa is Connor
Tolty with the kick in the air return chance here
for Vinnie Anthony. Y'll field right side of the sixth
got into the fifteen to twenty twenty five, Anthony the
thirty thirty five to the forty Anthony forty five to fifty.

(01:46:21):
He's off to the races. Anthony the thirty twenty ten
five touchdown Wisconsin. Vinnie Anthony gets the Badgers on the board.

Speaker 8 (01:46:33):
Well, what's happened in the second half so far?

Speaker 3 (01:46:35):
Anything exciting? What a return?

Speaker 8 (01:46:37):
And that's you needed something like that, And if your
offense is struggling, your defense just gives up a big play.
Find a way Vinnie Anthony, big play guy found a
way nice blocking.

Speaker 3 (01:46:49):
Everything set up.

Speaker 8 (01:46:50):
Well and he found a crease and did not slow
his stride down.

Speaker 3 (01:46:55):
And man, did we need.

Speaker 2 (01:46:57):
That ninety four beautiful yard cards for Vinnie Anthony? So
you get the ninety five officially, is Nathaniel Vecos ready
for the pat.

Speaker 9 (01:47:09):
It is in the air and it is good.

Speaker 2 (01:47:14):
So we're twenty eight seconds into the third quarter and
we've seen two touchdowns already. We'll take a break for
the rail Transport broadcast booth, Alabama twenty eights, Wisconsin seven
back in a moment.

In ninety five yard kick return for Vinnie Anthony gets
the Badgers on the scoreboard. We're twenty eight seconds into
the third quarter. It's twenty eight to seven. Alabama tash kickoffs.
At the college level and certainly in the NFL too
now it's almost an automatic touchback.

Speaker 9 (01:49:43):
You always wonder what's the edge.

Speaker 2 (01:49:45):
On the kickcover team when you might have to cover one,
you know, in the course of the game in Vinnie
Anthony would.

Speaker 9 (01:49:53):
Just knifed right through it on his way if the
end zone on that return.

Speaker 3 (01:49:56):
Yeah, you're right.

Speaker 8 (01:49:57):
It's so so often now that they're you know, touchbacks,
and I think you kind of fall into that lull.
And also you also just see you pull the head
twenty eight to nothing, and you know, Wisconsin.

Speaker 3 (01:50:08):
Give Vinnie Anthony credit.

Speaker 8 (01:50:09):
I think a lot of times, you know, the big
time players, and Vinnie obviously is one of our big
time players. You just want to grab the bull by
the horns and say I need to make something happen,
and he was.

Speaker 3 (01:50:20):
Able to go out and do it because that pendulum.

Speaker 8 (01:50:23):
We haven't seen anything swing back Wisconsin's way really since
that interception.

Speaker 3 (01:50:27):
And now you grab a little bit and now you
need to.

Speaker 8 (01:50:30):
Go down and find a way to make a stop
on Alabama's offense.

Speaker 2 (01:50:34):
So Nathaniel Venko set to kick off again and hits
this one in the direction of Brooks and he'll let
it hit into the end zone for the touchback and
penalty markers flying from all angles. Remember all the way
back to last week when Wisconsin had no penalties. This
one I think is going to go against Bamba. The

(01:50:56):
way Wisconsin is reacting.

Speaker 3 (01:50:59):
Here, I just love a penalty on a touchback.

Speaker 2 (01:51:08):
Of these officials spend a fair amount of time talking
about it.

Speaker 8 (01:51:15):
Took Yeah, they like they don't realize we got a
radio broadcast here.

Speaker 2 (01:51:20):
Let's get to so guess Bama and Tim Barker, the referee,
will tell us.

Speaker 6 (01:51:30):
The specifics after the play.

Speaker 12 (01:51:33):
Personal foul blind side block number thirty six on a
return team half the distance to the goal first down
this qb Reese.

Speaker 3 (01:51:42):
Thank you very much. That's that's a nice way to start.

Speaker 8 (01:51:46):
You get the touch back in half the distance to
the goal, so you're giving your defense a shot.

Speaker 9 (01:51:52):
Here, Patrick, what do you have?

Speaker 11 (01:51:53):
Extra points to anybody who can name the last Badger
to return a kickoff for a touchdown, Nick Davis, it
was four years Stefan Bracy returned the opening kickoff in
Wisconsin's win over Nebraska in twenty twenty one.

Speaker 10 (01:52:07):
Ninety one yard kick return four years ago.

Speaker 8 (01:52:09):
Sounds like dinner last night. The page just showed trivias.

Speaker 9 (01:52:12):
Skills, Nick Davis. There's a blasting paint man. He returned
a few.

Speaker 2 (01:52:17):
Yes, he did a great one for the thirteen of Alabama,
first and tent Simpson reads keeps, it'll throw into the
dirt intended for Josh Quavis. Incomplete, it'll be a second
and ten Alabama from its own thirteen yard line.

Speaker 3 (01:52:30):
Wow, you have not seen that.

Speaker 8 (01:52:31):
It's only his second incompletion of the day, and that
had to have been his easiest throat.

Speaker 3 (01:52:36):
So you know, and who knows.

Speaker 8 (01:52:37):
Momentum has a funny way of working out football games.

Speaker 2 (01:52:41):
Two receivers right, one on the left of the Alabama
thirteen yard line. Riley is the running back, second and
ten for the tide opening minute, third quarter, twenty eight
to seven Alabama. Isaiah Horton was air Brooks tight to
the left to or tight to the right. Simpson calls
for the ball. It's the shotgun snap against the four

(01:53:01):
man rush looking thros left side that is caught by
Horton across the twenty up to the twenty four and
a first down for Alabama on the gain of eleven.

Speaker 8 (01:53:10):
You're sitting in a second and ten and that's where
you hope some pass rush or something will get and
get Simpson out of rhythm. And that again, really good
protection or left tackle does a nice job on Cheeks,
holding him off and allowing Simpson to deliver a strike
to pick up a first down.

Speaker 2 (01:53:29):
From the twenty four yard line of Alabama single back
as Riley. As Simpson works under his center, the All
American Parker brails for Jeremy Bernard in motion left to right.
A play faked. Simpson rolling to his right, stops now
rolls further to his right. He'll keep it twenty five.
He is to the thirty cuts inside of Jamir Latimer.
We'll go ahead and wrap him up at the thirty

(01:53:49):
two yard line on a gain of eight second down
and two for Alabama.

Speaker 8 (01:53:54):
A nice play design there, got Simpson out of the pocket.
Over route got covered and he went used his legs
to pick up seven or.

Speaker 9 (01:54:01):
Eight Brooks slot to the rights.

Speaker 2 (01:54:03):
On second down and two, Simpson quick toss that's caught
by Quavis across the thirty thirty five yard line and
he'll drive it up to the forty yard line. A
legro is there and that'll be a first down for Alabama.

Speaker 8 (01:54:16):
And that looks like an easy pitch and catch, I'm
sure on TV and whatnot, but Raiger had his arms up.
He did a really good job of kind of switching
his arm angle to be able to get that out
and then good blocking.

Speaker 3 (01:54:26):
Quavis picks up a first down out of play.

Speaker 8 (01:54:28):
I think they tried to run on their first play
where he spiked it in the dirt.

Speaker 3 (01:54:32):
This time they were able to execute it.

Speaker 2 (01:54:34):
Matt Young, Austin Brown or the safeties right now for Wisconsin.
Tyree Spearbreath checks in an outside back or for Wisconsin
from the forty yard line of Alabama. First down and
ten waves are tight end motions out wide to the left.
Pressure coming on Simpson and he gets away. Five's time
to his left to the thirty thirty five forty forty

(01:54:56):
five to the fifty still up forty five to the
forty yard line of Wisconsin. What a job by ty Simpson.
The Badgers had him lined up but could not get
him to the grass and takes it all the way
near the forty yard line of Wisconsin.

Speaker 8 (01:55:13):
I don't know how he avoided this because Wisconsin brought pressure.
Fearbury beats inside the tackle on the inside, Curtis comes
off the edge.

Speaker 3 (01:55:21):
They have him pinned and.

Speaker 8 (01:55:23):
Somehow he spins away and makes a heck of a
play with his feet. Wisconsin dialed up the right pressure,
had the guys there, and Simpson found a way to
avoid him well.

Speaker 2 (01:55:32):
The forty one of Wisconsin first and ten were three
minutes into the third quarter, twenty eight to seven. Alabama
tylor edwards to tie the motions to the right. Here's
Richard Young getting the hand off up the middle and
not much these Wisconsin continues to do well when Alabama
tries to run the ball north south and they're defensively
at linebacker right now, but Wisconsin is the freshman Cooper Catalano.

Speaker 3 (01:55:56):
Ben Barton fantastic job holding the point.

Speaker 2 (01:55:59):
Second down for the Wisconsin forty yard line. Second down
and nine. Young is the running back to the left
of the quarterback. Now he'll shift to the right. Lake
clock at thirteen plenty of time lyon Williams slot on
the right side. You're going to the left of the QB.

(01:56:19):
S Simpson back to throw. Badgers trying to heat him up.
They pick it up and they throw hangs in the air.
It's gought by Williams cutting left of the ten to
the five touchdown.

Speaker 9 (01:56:28):
Alabama.

Speaker 2 (01:56:37):
Alabama getting what it wants, how it wants, whenever it wants.

Speaker 8 (01:56:43):
And that's why that cat's going to be playing on
Sunday and he's going to be picked really early because
that was not a great thrown. Paul is underthrown, Williams
comes back to it and then is able to catch it.
But the move after is what is really for two guys,
and he just shook shook them all the way off
the sideline as athleticism showed. There, big time play by

(01:57:04):
a big time player.

Speaker 2 (01:57:05):
And Connor Talty with the extra point that is in
the air and it is good.

Speaker 9 (01:57:13):
It is Alabama again extends its lead.

Speaker 2 (01:57:16):

ten for an ID. This was Badger football from lear
field well the first four minutes or so of the
second half. A Ryan Williams seventy five yard TD catch
of any Anthony ninety five yard kick return and another
Simpson and Williams connection from forty one yards, all of
that happening in four minutes of game time. Thirty five seven,

(01:59:43):
Alabama leading Wisconsin, so tied. Set to kick off, the

Speaker 9 (01:59:52):
Together, we can save lives. Learn more at zero in Wisconsin,

Speaker 8 (02:00:00):
Pretty good start for Williams in the second half. I'd
say is now up to five catches for one hundred
and sixty five yards, and his athleticism really showcased obviously
on the screen, but also that catch, the underthrown ball
comes back to it, and then he made a move
for It's hard for me to describe, but it was
stop on a dime like a joystick and then just

(02:00:21):
breezes into the end zone.

Speaker 3 (02:00:23):
He just looks different.

Speaker 9 (02:00:25):
Yeah, he.

Speaker 2 (02:00:27):
Was a sensation last year and especially as we talked
about the first half of the season, as Tolts kick
will not be returned, is this one sails well beyond
the reach of any anthony back line of the end zone.
We mentioned that with Williams that he hurt Wisconsin, hurt
a lot of teams early first seven games, thirty one catches,
six hundred and forty nine yards seven touchdowns. The final

(02:00:50):
six games, just seventeen catches, two hundred and sixteen yards
and a touchdown. So talk to people around here. That's
his next step to be able to sustain that over
the course of an entire season, just a sophomore. So
here we go, Danny O'Neill and company out there out

(02:01:11):
of the pistol. On first down, the handoff goes to
Dylan Jones up the middle. He'll move the stack up
across the thirty good powerful run from Jones up to
the thirty three yard line on a gain of eight.

Speaker 8 (02:01:22):
Yeah, and Renfro back in again at center. So you
kind of stabilize things a little bit. Now is the
first real good push that we've seen, and give Dylan
Jones a little bit, a little bit of room is
able to pick up a nice chunk on first down.

Speaker 2 (02:01:36):
Second down in two to kel crowds in the game.
Now slot to the right for Wisconsin. Fransfer from first Kentucky,
then Hawaii, Thenny Anthony Wye to the right, and our
little reverse action here is Anthony pops it back to
O'Neil and to throw over to Dylan Jones. He'll make
the catch across the thirty five yard line up to
the thirty eight. Not quite as smooth as was operated

(02:01:59):
by Alab but they will move the sticks as lt
Overton a little slow to get up, so.

Speaker 9 (02:02:07):
They try a hand off to Dylan Jones.

Speaker 2 (02:02:09):
They show a reverse to Anthony, popped it back to
O'Neill and they do get a first down out of
it to the thirty eight yard line of Wisconsin.

Speaker 8 (02:02:16):
Well, the big play there, Vinny Anthony did a great
job of blocking it. There was a corner coming hard
down that was going to drill O'Neill vide.

Speaker 3 (02:02:25):
Anthony did a nice job of kicking him out and.

Speaker 2 (02:02:28):
The thirty eight of the Badgers first intendos. O'Neill drops
the throw for a man rushed Danny Lutch takes a
shot left side, wants.

Speaker 9 (02:02:36):
Vinnie and he pulls it down.

Speaker 2 (02:02:37):
No broke it up by Zab and Brown just inside
the twenty yard line of the far side. Brown, the
sophomore corner out of Santa Ana, California, getting in there
in time to break up that shot play. The pass
intended for Vinnie Anthony at second inten.

Speaker 3 (02:02:56):
Oh great protection.

Speaker 8 (02:02:57):
Brunner came over and helped up Malman mauled his man
down to the ground and Vinnie Anthony had his man
beat by a few steps. That ball was underthrown a
little bit. I thought there was early contact on that.
Obviously no flags, so no call, but really good route
by Vinnie, just a little underthrown.

Speaker 2 (02:03:15):
A time out taken by Alabama as it was having
some personnel issues there, so the tide burning a time
out there first of the half. We have nine thirty
four left in the third quarter, thirty five to seven,
Alabama leading Wisconsin.

Speaker 9 (02:03:32):
As we'll keep it here.

Speaker 3 (02:03:34):
Was that being a little bit of a homer there?
Do you think it? Did?

Speaker 24 (02:03:36):
It?

Speaker 3 (02:03:36):
Not feel like Vinnie had a great route.

Speaker 8 (02:03:38):
It's basically just they fly out down down Alabama's on
then the left sideline and the ball was underthrown as
he came back, and it felt like there was some contact.
I think had O'Neil been able to get a little
more loft under, that's a touchdown and unfortunately he was
unable to do that and there was contact but nothing
got caught.

Speaker 9 (02:03:58):
Yeah, he was Yeah, he had a beat, no doubt.

Speaker 3 (02:04:02):
So you're saying I was a little bit of a homer.

Speaker 9 (02:04:03):
Yeah, maybe a little that's all right, it's fair terrible
no call.

Speaker 2 (02:04:09):
Second down and ten for the Badgers at their own
thirty eight yard line. Yland Jones wide right now in
motion as they'll give it to him, as he'll run
it off the left side up to the forty five
yard line. Oh, the Badgers trying to find any kind
of space they can here from hitting the edges. We

(02:04:32):
saw that a week ago. It'll be a third down
in about three for Wisconsin. Just shya the Badger's forty
five yard line.

Speaker 8 (02:04:39):
And the key there you bring Tretch Kakahuna off on
the other side of it. Just try to get those
linebackers to move a half a step or to move
their eyes, and that gave you a little bit more
room off that left side and a nice pickup setting
up a third manageable.

Speaker 2 (02:04:52):
Slot, left slot right, O'Neil under his center Jake renfro
and now he'll drop into a shotgun formation. Jones is
to his right, snap to O'Neill, and play is stopped.
Penalty markers fly well out of time.

Speaker 12 (02:05:13):
I believe snap in fraction on the offense number fifty seven,
five yard penalty.

Speaker 6 (02:05:20):
They didn't start.

Speaker 2 (02:05:21):
Down, So third and three becomes third and eight, and
talked about trying to get into more manageable third downs.

Speaker 9 (02:05:29):
They were and till they weren't.

Speaker 8 (02:05:31):
Yeah, we've discussed that already, how Patrick talked coming out
of the break, you need to stay third and manageable,
and unfortunately when we have, we've kicked ourselves into keyster.

Speaker 2 (02:05:42):
For the Wisconsin forty yard line, third down and eight,
So O'Neil and the gun. Three receivers left, one on
the right, O'Neil back to throw and he fires the
left side lands. Based on the catch, he'll get the
first down across the fifty into Alabama territory. XAVI, your
Minci out of the secondary makes the so a third
and eighth conversion here for Wisconsin.

Speaker 3 (02:06:04):
Really good job of identifying it pick.

Speaker 8 (02:06:06):
Abama brought two extra rushers, and Wisconsin did a really
nice job of picking that up, finding it, getting it.
O'Neil did a nice job of hanging in the pocket
to make that throw and pick up a much needed.

Speaker 2 (02:06:18):
First down eight minutes left in the third quarter, thirty
five to seven, Alabama leading Wisconsin. Jackson Aker in the game,
lines up wing on the left side, Tretchkakahuna motions right
to left. Here's an end around Tyrell Henry and trying
to work the edge breaks one tackle, spins inside the
forty five Kean sab Will turn him down into the

(02:06:41):
end of the dirt at the forty four yard line
of Alabama. So a gain of five second down coming
up for Wisconsin.

Speaker 8 (02:06:48):
Really good design and we're seeing a lot of space
on these flipouts back. Unfortunately, Alabama just has so much
team speed that they're able to cover ground. That was
an nice chunk, but could have been even more. We
missed one key block or that could have been a
bigger play.

Speaker 2 (02:07:05):
Pistol formation from the Alabama forty four yard line, second
down and five Jayden Ballard to the lefts Vinnie Anthony
to the rights. That was getting organized. Play clock is
at five. Lance Mason slot on the left side. O'Neill
quick toss Anthony will catch makes a man missed up
the sideline inside the forty brought down by the linebacker

(02:07:27):
Deontay Lawson at the thirty six of Alabama.

Speaker 9 (02:07:30):
First down, Wisconsin.

Speaker 3 (02:07:31):
Nice job there.

Speaker 8 (02:07:32):
Wisconsin moved a tackle over Emerson Mandel actually was over
on the left side by Malman, and a really weird
look at formation.

Speaker 3 (02:07:39):
You had cover Lee and then nobody.

Speaker 8 (02:07:42):
So Alabama has to go to the left side because
you're thinking something's brewing, and you throw it back to
the right where there's more space for Vinnie that is
able to pick up a first.

Speaker 2 (02:07:50):
Down and Mandel again tackle over to the left, lining
up next to a ballman Kackahuna slot left motions right,
they'll fake the sweet damn.

Speaker 9 (02:07:59):
Here's a O'Neil inside the thirty.

Speaker 2 (02:08:01):
O'Neil gets brought down by the official cutting down at
the twenty five yard line. The Empire just got caught
in the heavy traffic, and not a whole lot he
could do about it. But now he has a tackle
stat first down Wisconsin at the twenty five of Alabama.

Speaker 8 (02:08:17):
Gonna have a couple of bruises too. O'Neil said, he
just read that really well. Alabama's flow because you're seeing
so much motion in the backfield. O'Neil sees it and
goes and he puts his puts his helmet down right
into the ump, barreled him over and picked up a first.

Speaker 2 (02:08:32):
Down pistol formation from the Alabama twenty five yard line.
First in ten, O'Neill hands off the Derry and Drew
Pree off the right side inside the twenty five and
Brayson Hubbard closed the gate at about the twenty one
he was flying in. There was the safety for Alabama
gain of four second out and six four Wisconsin.

Speaker 8 (02:08:51):
Wisconsin is finding something here with their tackle over. They
keep moving Emerson Mandel over with Riley Moulmon and coming
off the right side.

Speaker 3 (02:08:59):
Vine Anthony, he really sprung that.

Speaker 8 (02:09:01):
But you have you have a tight end lined up
next to the guard and I've been able to open
some things up.

Speaker 2 (02:09:07):
He stays straight up this time. Chris Brooks slot to
the left, nas Mason slotted to the right, Garry and
Drew Prie, the running back O'Neill, and the gun from
the Alabama twenty one snap through O'Neill four man rush.
O'Neill throws right side pick off by Hubbard inside the
tent across the ten.

Speaker 9 (02:09:24):
How the bounds he goes.

Speaker 2 (02:09:26):
His second pick of the day and a promising drive
blows up on Wisconsin.

Speaker 8 (02:09:34):
Unfortunately, very similar to his first interception. He was looking
right and unfortunately another easy interception and a great drive
until it wasn't.

Speaker 2 (02:09:45):
We will take a break four p Fifty six left
in the third quarter Alabama thirty five, Wisconsin seven back
in a moment.

Slash Badgers, where your home field and huge success Await
thirty five seven Alabama four fifty six left in the
third quarter, the Badgers had a really nice looking drive
ten plays fifty four yards, but unfortunately Danny O'Neill throws

(02:12:20):
his second interception, both to Bryson Hubbard, and this was
after the Badgers were on the brink of getting into
the red zone.

Speaker 3 (02:12:28):
And that's a real gut punch.

Speaker 8 (02:12:30):
You know, Wisconsin has struggled to move the football all day.
They finally have went over one hundred yards of total
offense and a really good drive, mixing it, running it,
you know, doing some really nice things. O'Neil did some
nice work with his feet, and unfortunately, you know, you
look at it and you watch the replay and you
you have a hard time kind of understanding where he

(02:12:51):
was going with that football because Hubbard basically ran the
route for him and he threw it right to him.

Speaker 3 (02:12:57):
And you know, it's again, it's simple up here.

Speaker 8 (02:13:00):
You don't have guys screaming at you, but you do
wonder where he was going with that football, and things
happened very fast when you're playing a much better defense,
and I think that's what he made a predetermination, and
you can't do that at this level.

Speaker 9 (02:13:13):
Alabama will start at it's thirteen yard line to receivers
either side.

Speaker 2 (02:13:19):
Quavis the tied end motions to the formation as Simpson,
we'll give it up the middle. That's Washington across the
twenty yard line and up to the twenty one Dre
Washington the ball carrier, fifty years senior out of Texas,
and he gains eight second down and two for Alabama.

Speaker 8 (02:13:38):
And you would think Alabama is now going to slow
it down here and run it a little bit.

Speaker 3 (02:13:41):
They pull their right guard and he.

Speaker 8 (02:13:43):
Does a nice job, but kind of getting up on
tack at Curtis and you know that unfortunately there, that
was nicely done by Alabama on their scheme.

Speaker 2 (02:13:54):
Brooks, Bernard, and Horton all out to the lefts Bernard
will motion into the right of the pistol gong in
there at running back play face Simpson throws left side
that's caught by Bernard across the thirty five and is
steered out of bounds. Ricardo Hallman over there for Wisconsin
up to the forty yard line. Why Mason riger just

(02:14:15):
couldn't get an angle as he got into the backfield,
but just could not get a line to the quarterback.

Speaker 3 (02:14:20):
Oh, I thought he had it.

Speaker 8 (02:14:21):
He did a really nice job of dipping his left
shoulder and created a soft edge on Proctor, who has
done a really nice job on him today at left tackle.
He's he's held up better than we all hoped, and
he had an opportunity there just enough to shove him
by Simpson.

Speaker 3 (02:14:35):
And then Simpson delivered another strike.

Speaker 2 (02:14:37):
Three forty five left of the third quarter, thirty five
to seven Alabama first and ten for the Tide at
their own forty yard line under center. Is Simpson play
fake drops the throw, drops it off. Washington catches at
the forty forty five to the fifty of Wisconsin into
Wisconsin territory. I should say, down near the forty five
yard line and the better part of the fifteen yards.

Speaker 9 (02:14:57):
On that little drop off. First and ten.

Speaker 2 (02:15:00):
Alabama now at the forty five yard line of Wisconsin.
Is they pick up the pace offensively. Washington stays in
there at running back Laud's air Brooks slot to the left.
They hurry to the line, but now we'll look over
to the sideline. Is they'll work the clock coming up
in the final three minutes of the third quarter, as

(02:15:22):
Aah Horton wide left, Jeremy Bernard Wye.

Speaker 9 (02:15:25):
To the right.

Speaker 2 (02:15:27):
Simpson gets the snamp, hands off, Washington up the middle,
lowers the pads and gets driven down. Jamir Latimer getting
in there. Allegro as well at the forty of Wisconsin
on a gain of five.

Speaker 8 (02:15:38):
And what Alabama's done a really good job. They get
set quickly. Sometimes they go, but they're getting their clap
in and seeing what Wisconsin's doing.

Speaker 3 (02:15:46):
Pressure wise.

Speaker 2 (02:15:48):
Second down and five from the Wisconsin forty, Quavis wing
on the left side, Brooks and Horton to the left.
Now Brooks will motion out to the right. They'll run
three that way, including the tight end, Quavis empty back,
Washington out wide left. O o'clock is at seven. Simpson

(02:16:09):
takes a snap, Badgers send four. Simpson throws over the middle,
wide open Horton inside the thirty five yard line of Wisconsin.
That'll be another first down for Alabama at the thirty
four of the Badgers.

Speaker 8 (02:16:20):
Yeah, the ump almost made another tackle there. It kind
of bellowed back in after again. Really good protection, easy pocket,
easy pitch and catching. The Alabama athleticism at the wide
opposition has been showcasing itself in a pretty big way today.

Speaker 2 (02:16:36):
Boy really has people know about Williams. Jeremy Bernard certainly
a star. Brooks maybe one of the making. From the
thirty four of Wisconsin. Out of the pistol Young in
the backfield now behind the quarterback looks motions to the left.
Simpson the throw and drops it off the tie to
the tight end Quavis, and he will get it to

(02:16:58):
the thirty yard line. Tyree's over there to make the
tackle gain of four second, out and six.

Speaker 8 (02:17:04):
For the time they've been they've gone to that play
now a few times, saying that's at least the third time.

Speaker 3 (02:17:09):
Just trying to get Quavis involved.

Speaker 8 (02:17:11):
I think they're saying, oh, the receivers are eating, let's fine,
make sure we keep everybody happy.

Speaker 3 (02:17:16):
A quick screen and get there.

Speaker 8 (02:17:17):
Get your offensive lineman out on the perimeter, kicking out Wisconsin.

Speaker 3 (02:17:22):
A nice job of rallying to the football there.

Speaker 2 (02:17:25):
Call it the twenty nine of Wisconsin. They gets second
out and five for Alabama. Williams to the left regard
to the right. Now he loops in motion to the
left as Simpson, looking to throw, finds Riley out of
the backfield. He has stood up by Austin Brown and
drives him back shy at the twenty five yard line.

Speaker 9 (02:17:44):
Good work in the open.

Speaker 2 (02:17:45):
Field from the safety Austin Brown at the twenty sixth
of Wisconsin third down and two for Alabama.

Speaker 8 (02:17:52):
That great open field tackle on a little flare route
and he did a fantastic job getting him the ground
short of the sticks.

Speaker 2 (02:17:59):
O's are Brooks lot right, Ryan Williams wide to the right,
Jeremy Bernard to the left. Now they'll move Brooks to
the left slot with fifteen on the play clock out
of the final ten seconds of the third quarter. Yeah,
but up front, free play for Simpson. He'll throw a

(02:18:19):
left side tipped up in complete. Jamir Latimer got a
hand in there. If they got Wisconsin into the neutral zone,
Simpson knew he had a free play and they'll get
a first down via penalty on five yard.

Speaker 3 (02:18:33):
Penalty results in a first down.

Speaker 8 (02:18:36):
Kind of had a hunch that was the case, as
the game clock could run out without the play clock
and at that whatever, that's kind of the new hip
thing to do is go up there and silent hard
count try.

Speaker 3 (02:18:48):
And get it in. Unfortunately, Wisconsin bit on.

Speaker 2 (02:18:50):
That one, so it'll be at the Wisconsin twenty one
yard line with one second left in the third quarter,
first and ten, Alabama curtains and tied, leading the Badgers
thirty five to seven in Alabama, threatening for more. Caleb
Edwards the tight end motions left to right and Simpson'll

(02:19:12):
throw it right side and Edwards inside the fifteen drives
down inside.

Speaker 9 (02:19:18):
The ten yard line.

Speaker 2 (02:19:19):
Austin Brown on the tackle is Caleb Edwards, a freshman,
makes it first and goal Alabama. As we hit the

Mike Keller with a quick scoreboard update from Bryant Denny
Stadium in Tuscaloosave where the Badger's trail the Crimson Tide
thirty five to seven, just ready to start the fourth
quarter in Big Ten play number four, Oregon at Northwestern
leading thirty one nothing inside of three minutes. In the
third number twenty three Michigan over Central Michigan forty nine
to three. Nebraska is routing Houston Christian forty five nothing. Maryland,

(02:21:45):
the Badger's opponent next week in the Big Ten opener,
leads Tousand State forty one to nothing, and a little
bit later on USC on the road at Purdue.

Speaker 9 (02:21:54):
All right, Mike, thank you very much.

You w Athletics are proud to recognize the official products
of Camprandle Stadium. Group up lots of mats of pizza.
Clement's brought some hot dogs, old Dutch potato chips, and
pepsi on Wisconsin. It's thirty five to seven Alabama. As
we get ready for the fourth quarter at Camp Randall Stadium,
big tradition is jump around. They played Dixieland Delight here.

(02:22:19):
I thought it was going into the fourth quarter, but
I don't know. I had some false advertising that that
was a big part of things here. Let's we'll find
out together. You're familiar with the song, aren't you.

Speaker 8 (02:22:36):
I had Yeah, Alabama, you know, the music selection down
here has been pretty good.

Speaker 9 (02:22:41):
It has the.

Speaker 8 (02:22:44):
Place so far on our end, not as much, but
the music has been good.

Speaker 3 (02:22:51):
Well, let's be honest, that Dixie Land Delight.

Speaker 8 (02:22:53):
Whatever else you'd say, a lot jump around still rules
the jungle. When it comes to going into the fourth part.

Speaker 2 (02:23:00):
Well, you just you know, you survey the country. You
want to know who's coming.

Speaker 3 (02:23:05):
In second, you want to see what's yet, who's coming
in second? Thinking about getting on the metals there.

Speaker 2 (02:23:09):
Yeah, First and goal Alabama at the nine yard line, Rico.

Speaker 9 (02:23:17):
Scott, Ryan Williams.

Speaker 2 (02:23:21):
There, they have three receivers to the left, including Kevin Riley.
The running back now motions into the backfield. Guys Simpson
remains in there. A quarterback takes the snap, look games, sets, pumps, prows,
high passing complete one at Quavis Well covered by Aaron
Went at the five yard line of the near side.

Speaker 9 (02:23:39):
Second in goal Alabama at the nine.

Speaker 8 (02:23:42):
That play there, even though it ended up being an incompletion,
it's kind of been a little bit of a microcosm
of the struggles that we've had today on defense, because
I think coming in we thought that that was going
to be the key if Wisconsin could pull this major
upset off. Their protection has been much better than I
anticipated against our front, and he.

Speaker 2 (02:24:02):
Has taken advantage of that as Simpson twenty three out
of twenty six for three hundred and eighty seven yards
and four touchdowns. Scott motions to the left. You're reading,
get keeping it a Simpson, He'll drop it off the
Jeremy Bernard trying to make something out of nothing. He's
going backwards and he is nabbed behind the line of
scrimmage by Austin Brown. Now, if you're Bernard, you can

(02:24:23):
make people miss, and he did. But he was going
in the wrong direction and the Badgers turned that into
a good play on for their group. It'll be a
third in goal just inside the fifteen yard line.

Speaker 8 (02:24:35):
And we're not looking at all these moral victor any
of these things. But what I love there is you're
down twenty eight. You have all your starters out there,
and they passed, and you saw ten or eleven white
helmets fly into that football to get him down.

Speaker 2 (02:24:49):
Three receivers lefts too on the right empty backfield at
the moment here for Alabama opening minute, fourth quarter, thirty
five seven. The Crimson tie the tight end Josh Quavis
in motion to the left snap the Simpson throws ins
a dropped by Ryan Williams, added in his hands. He
was covered by Austin Brown, and that's one. Williams gets

(02:25:12):
ninety nine times out of one hundred incomplete pass and
Alabama says on the field goal team.

Speaker 8 (02:25:18):
Yeah, really a fantastic throw there by Simpson.

Speaker 3 (02:25:22):
You said it.

Speaker 8 (02:25:23):
Williams is gonna come down with that. Another good route,
hit him right in the hands. Fortunately, Wisconsin gets a
break there and the Alabama has to settle for a
field goal attempt.

Speaker 2 (02:25:32):
Connor Tolti a thirty three yard try from the right
hash mark sixty one seconds here into the fourth quarter.
The lines are down, here's the snap and the placement made.
The kick is in the air, and it is good.
So they get thirty eight to seven. Alabama will step

(02:25:55):
away thirteen we'll actually we're gonna keep it here, which
like no commercial break. Thirteen fifty six remaining Alabama thirty
eight Wisconsin seven.

Speaker 8 (02:26:05):
And the life of a football player, and especially a
star like Ryan Williams. He has a monster day going
five catches a buck sixty five two touchdowns, the seventy
five yard or one hundred and nine yards after catch,
and I can guarantee you one thing, you know what
he's gonna be thinking about all night.

Speaker 9 (02:26:21):
Yeah that drop.

Speaker 2 (02:26:22):
Uh huh oh there you mentioned how good those receivers are.
The numbers that Williams has, Horton has been big, Bernard
and Simpson twenty four out of twenty eight.

Speaker 3 (02:26:41):
Eighty two.

Speaker 8 (02:26:42):
Oh nowhere did I see that? Today's menu is that
they'd throw for three eighty two total yard differential four
to forty two to one eighteen.

Speaker 2 (02:26:56):
Talty said to kick off and the runout. The kick
is away and there will be no return from Vinnie Anthony.
Badgers again starting at their twenty five yard line.

Speaker 8 (02:27:07):
And I really appreciated the drive that Wisconsin, you know,
put together their last offensive drive because it's been tough
sledding all day. I've been kind of kicking ourselves in
the foot a little bit with penalties and not being
able to stay manageable third down, and they found a
way to really push the ball down the field for
really the first time today. And then you throw the interception.

(02:27:31):
So now this is another kind of a gut check.
Game is in hand. It's thirty eight to seven, but
this is where you try to build some positive momentum
for the big ten opener.

Speaker 2 (02:27:39):
Next week, Badgers go right to left as we see
into the fourth quarter pistol formation as Danny O'Neal hands
off to dry On Duprie, a little spin across the
twenty five and he'll get to the twenty eight yard
line on a gain of three. Derry On Duprie the
ball carrier, a gain of three second out in seven man.

Speaker 3 (02:27:58):
Good push.

Speaker 8 (02:27:59):
I think you know Renfro has been able to get
back out here in the second half, and give him
a ton of props for doing that. This is not easy.
He's fighting through a lot of stuff and you're seeing
a little bit more push in the second half by
Wisconsin's offensive line.

Speaker 2 (02:28:12):
Anthony Outlied to the right, Jayden Ballard to the left.
Pistol said again on second down, the high snapped to
O'Neil looking drifting to his left. Room if he wants it,
he'll run at thirty yard line, angles left and gets
forced to the boundary by Deontay Lawson near the marker.

Speaker 9 (02:28:28):
Maybe just shy a bit.

Speaker 2 (02:28:32):
It'll be a third down about a half yard to
go at the thirty four and a half of Wisconsin.

Speaker 8 (02:28:37):
Really nice job there by Riley Malman the left tackle
of washing his man down and it opened up that
you ended up seeing. O'Neil saw that go down and
was able to see the big opening off his left side,
and I was able to pick up a nice eight
or nine yard chunk.

Speaker 2 (02:28:52):
Back's off set O'Neil under center playfake looking it will
drift to his left. Now, chase to his right, got
away from London Simmons. O'Neal throwing, and it's incomplete and
tended for Chris Brooks. At the forty three yard line
of the far side, right by the Alabama bench is
ABM Brown on the coverage, So they wanted to do
something there on third and a half a yard they'll

(02:29:14):
keep the offense out there fourth and a half a
yard badger, just shy of their thirty five yard line.

Speaker 8 (02:29:19):
Yeah, they tried to take a shot there, thinking Alabama
would sell out to stop the running. Chris Brooks basically
had a one man route. Give Alabama credit, they covered
it Wisconson knowing they were going to go for it
on fourth down.

Speaker 2 (02:29:31):
So O'Neal back under center, straight eye formation, and he
gets the snap, he'll hand it to Jackson Acre and
I'm not sure maybe he has if they're running up
right at the chalk at the thirty five yard line,
and it is a first down.

Speaker 8 (02:29:45):
How do you always said didn't need much, didn't get much,
but got enough. That was a hard fought his job
by Acre, just getting his pads down, and I think
the nose of the ball just got to where it
needed to to get another set of downs.

Speaker 2 (02:29:58):
Twelve fifteen, remaining thirty eight to seven Alabama. First and
ten for the Badgers. Jaden Ballard and Vinnie Anthony will
come out double wide to the left. They'll get back
into the pistol. Dupre the running back, and now Derrian
will shift to the right of Danny O'Neill, who gets
the snap, reads, keeps, looks still looks, whips it to Dupre,

(02:30:22):
high pass incomplete at the thirty three yard line. Look
to check it down and just slung it too high.
It'll be a second and ten for the Badgers at
their thirty five.

Speaker 8 (02:30:32):
A little play action, another attempt at a shot opportunity.
But give Alabama's defense credit, they're obviously ahead by a bunch.

Speaker 3 (02:30:39):
They're going to be playing a little bit.

Speaker 8 (02:30:40):
Softer, but a first down, you're trying to make that
big play. You leak out your back late and O'Neil
just missed him.

Speaker 2 (02:30:49):
Kakahunas lot left motions right, O'Neill play fake on second down,
steps up it is. He throws a shot for Ballard
incomplete at the twenty five yard line. O'Neil really really
got popped racing Hubbard back there in coverage and it's
third and ten for the Badgers at their thirty five
yard line.

Speaker 3 (02:31:07):
Yeah, that hurt from up here.

Speaker 8 (02:31:09):
It was right in the ribs and as he was
delivering the football, you know, Ballard had a step, but
that was one of those where it's really hard to
throw a football when you're getting drilled into the sidier
ribs like he did on that one. Bounced right back up,
but I'm sure that one's gonna.

Speaker 3 (02:31:24):
Feel tomorrow morning.

Speaker 2 (02:31:25):
O'neial nine to fifteen today for sixty eight yards, couple
of interceptions, three receivers.

Speaker 9 (02:31:31):
Right, this book's out to the left.

Speaker 2 (02:31:34):
Third down and ten for the Badgers are own thirty
five yard line, and Neil takes a stamp. Alabama sens
four and they get to him. O'Neil gets sacked bell
Mark at the twenty two or twenty three yard line
Yon's a Pierre just bursting in there and getting to
the quarterback. As Alabama with four sacks here this afternoon.

Speaker 8 (02:31:59):
And that's taken advantage of an inexperienced right side of
the offensive line. That was a simple te stunt where
Coverly is trying to push his three technique over onto Mandel.
He was unable to get back and that allowed the
end to loop through and get the fourth sack of
the afternoon for Bama.

Speaker 2 (02:32:16):
Bay Mark at the twenty three of Wisconsin as Atticus
Bertram's on the punt Cole Adams deep and he is
sent back inside his twenty five yard line and he
gets hit right away. There's a good punt coverage work
Jadeen Ballard getting down there. It was a fifty three
yard punts. So we'll go ahead and take a break

(02:32:36):
with ten minutes and fifty four seconds to play. Alabama
thirty eight Wisconsin seven.

Terra Picks.

Speaker 8 (02:35:16):
Well, you don't even want to look at the stats
because it's obviously one sided.

Speaker 3 (02:35:21):
The score is one sided, and.

Speaker 8 (02:35:24):
You take away the big kick return from Vinnie Anthony.
Offensively today just been very limited and give Alabama's defense
a ton of credit. They have found ways to get pressure.
That That was the conversation coming into it. They've been
able to put pressure on O'Neil when he's dropped back
in Wisconsin, continues to just make a few mistakes.

Speaker 9 (02:35:45):
Well.

Speaker 2 (02:35:45):
The twenty three yard line of Alabama first and ten
come out trips to the rights. By the way, freshman
linebacker Mason Posa in there as part of the Badger's defense.
They with tack at Curtis Jermy Bernad motions, left the
hand off the riley, trying the left side, and tough
sledding there stop at the twenty four twenty five yard

(02:36:07):
line and that's it. So he's second down coming up
here for Alabama. With ten forty remaining.

Speaker 9 (02:36:17):
Mark of the twenty five of Alabama.

Speaker 8 (02:36:20):
I would say, if you're looking for bright spots and
I am sixty yards rushing, we've held yes Alabama to today.

Speaker 9 (02:36:28):
Second down in eight.

Speaker 2 (02:36:33):
And Simpson gets the snap, hands off the riley again
and take it down right at the point of attack.
There you go, young fella, that's Mason Posa getting in there.
We've talked about even more earlier broadcast. Freshman out of Albuquerque,
three time state champion wrestler and state champion football teams.

Speaker 9 (02:36:52):
His dad was.

Speaker 2 (02:36:54):
Three time All America and back in his wrestling days
at Oklahoma. So it's third down. We'll say seven for
the tie. Just shy the Alabama twenty six yard line.
Two receivers right, two receivers left, waves tied end motions
left to right. Simpson gets the shotgun, stab Badgers bringing

(02:37:17):
some pressure. Simpson throws it is dropped by las Are Brooks,
who was open.

Speaker 9 (02:37:22):
It was right there and he couldn't hang on.

Speaker 2 (02:37:25):
Why couldn't these guys start doing this in the first
half of crying out lout That.

Speaker 3 (02:37:28):
Would have made this a lot more fun for us.

Speaker 8 (02:37:31):
But that again, Wisconsin's front brought a little bit of pressure.
Alabama picks it up and very fortunate the last two
big plays that Alabama's wide outs we've been raving about
all day have not been able to catch.

Speaker 2 (02:37:45):
It well the first time today Alabama is punting as
pedalty markers fly pre snab Blake dowled the punter.

Speaker 9 (02:37:53):
By the way for Alabama.

Speaker 12 (02:37:54):
I'll start on the offense now. All eleven players got
set five yard it is four.

Speaker 8 (02:38:01):
That's what happens when you don't have to punt all
day you don't know how to line up and actually
go and executed.

Speaker 2 (02:38:07):
So they're back to the their twenty one yard line.
Tyrrel Henry deep for Wisconsin near the Badger's thirty five
yard line, staffed the dowd and the kick is away
and Henry signals for the fair cat shield make it
at the thirty yard line in Wisconsin territory with nine
twenty seven left in the game. That was a forty

(02:38:29):

again to Patrick Danny O'Neil.

Speaker 11 (02:40:29):
Stats aren't going to impress anybody today, sixty eight yards passing,
have those two interceptions, missed a few throws, But I
think he's probably earning points of this teammates for his
toughness today. And you know, down by thirty one points
here with nine and a half minutes to go. Coach
Pickle came up to have said you good, and he
almost brushed him off as if to say, of course,
I'm good, like this is what I'm here for. And
he's been hit a lot, he's been under duress. We

(02:40:50):
don't know what the future holds. We don't know if
Billy Edwards will be available next week against Maryland. He
was questionable for today's status, went through the full warm up,
which has been encouraging. But one thing I think Wisconsin
is learning over these last two weeks that while he
may not be a gun slinger, that's gonna get you.

Speaker 10 (02:41:04):
Big yards in today's game.

Speaker 11 (02:41:06):
He's earning points with his toughness and improving to his
teammates that he belongs on this field.

Speaker 9 (02:41:10):
But he really does. He's no one questions that at all.

Speaker 8 (02:41:17):
There's there's a lot of things you really like about O'Neil,
his toughness, the fact that he has shown that he
can run the football, his leadership. But you know there's
there's the other stuff too that you need to continue
to improve on.

Speaker 3 (02:41:31):
And that's where you know Danny with more experience, is
going to need to do.

Speaker 9 (02:41:37):
Well.

Speaker 2 (02:41:37):
You know, Billy really wants to play next week with
the Maryland Terrapins coming into town, but you know they
have a bye week after that. I mean, you want
to be smart. Luke Fickles talked about it, kind of
protect Billy from himself. Kay Jacamelli in at running back
now and on first down, the handoff will go to
Kate up the middle across the thirty five yard line

(02:41:58):
up to the thirty six on a gain of six
for Yakamelly.

Speaker 8 (02:42:03):
And Renfro pulls himself off the ground there has run
right behind him and Jacamelli picked up five or six
yards there and you just I really admire what Renfro's
out there doing today.

Speaker 3 (02:42:14):
He is gritting this out.

Speaker 8 (02:42:16):
You know, he's not close to one hundred percent, and
he's out here in the fourth quarter, down thirty one.

Speaker 9 (02:42:23):
He'll load up the backfield.

Speaker 2 (02:42:26):
On second down from the thirty four yard line, head
off Jacamelly again trying the right side, lowers the pads
and pumps those legs and got about a yard out
of it, and that was it to the twenty two.
Think that the thirty seven yard line of Wisconsin. Third
down and three here for the Badgers.

Speaker 3 (02:42:43):
Yakimella.

Speaker 8 (02:42:44):
You have to love his his toughness. That was a
designed play to try to get outside of the offensive
tackle Mandel. Not a lot there, and he just puts
his foot in the ground knowing he's gonna get stuck,
continue to drive his legs. That play was probably blocked
for nothing, and he at least was able to gain
some positive yards.

Speaker 2 (02:43:03):
Shotgun formation got Acre winging the left, Jacamelli the running
back Kakahuna in motion and a little shovel past Jackson
Acre across.

Speaker 10 (02:43:10):
The forty yard line.

Speaker 2 (02:43:12):
Jackson Acre surges his way to the forty five and
a first down. So just show a little jet motion
look from Kekahuna a shovel pass to Acre at a
first down for Wisconsin.

Speaker 8 (02:43:24):
Yeah, really nice play design and a nice job by
the left side Brunner and Maulman of walling there, guys
down to set up that little shovel and you put
that ball out with your right hand, put it back
in the left a little flip and Acre is able
to barrel down to pick up a big first out.

Speaker 2 (02:43:38):
We go tackle over here, Maldan and Mandel, same side
of the formation.

Speaker 9 (02:43:43):
Kekahuna in motion to the right.

Speaker 2 (02:43:45):
Here's the hand off the Jacamelly to the fifty Yacamelli
down to the forty five yard line. Mel Barkin looks
like just shy of that. So I mentioned this a
year ago. Kay Yakamelli averaged better than eight yards of
carry when he had some chances. It was a tone.
He's trying to do a little work here on the
fourth quarter this afternoon.

Speaker 8 (02:44:04):
A lot of success today in the limited opportunities where
we've seen tackles going over. This time Malman going back
over to the side. He's played his whole career over
on the right side.

Speaker 3 (02:44:13):
Line it up.

Speaker 8 (02:44:14):
Now he's shifting back but then running opposite to the
open side.

Speaker 3 (02:44:18):
Wisconsin's found a little.

Speaker 2 (02:44:19):
Something with that second and one, just inside the Alabama
forty six yard line is O'Neill looking to throw, looking looking,
still looking now pressured, flushed, he'll run for it and
gets inside the forty five to the forty four where
he gets the first down for Wisconsin. Felt it, but
he gets the first down.

Speaker 8 (02:44:40):
Nonetheless, you know, we just coming back for break. They
were talking about his toughness and leadership. He's taken it today.

Speaker 3 (02:44:47):
He's gosh hit and he's.

Speaker 8 (02:44:49):
Been able to get out and run and you know, unfortunately,
I think the old line is going to take some
a little bit of heat with some of the pressures
and things. But the coverage in the back end by
Alabama has been really strong this afternoon.

Speaker 2 (02:45:01):
Defensive lineman Keyon Keehley really popped O'Neill on first down.
Here's O'Neill faking the end around. He'll keep it and
drive it down near the forty yard line of Alabama.

Speaker 9 (02:45:15):
We're doing what they can here.

Speaker 2 (02:45:17):
Kelby Collins, the defensive lineman who is Alabama really getting
into the depth chart right now? Bought to forty one
of the tide, seck it down and about six here
for Wisconsin. Clock is running five point forty seven remaining
thirty eight to seven Alabama and the Anthony to the

(02:45:39):
rights Kakahuna and Ballard to the left. O'Neill from the
gun takes the snap, looking to throw, tosses a deep
left side Jayden.

Speaker 9 (02:45:48):
Ballard god that touchdown Wisconsin.

Speaker 2 (02:45:51):
O'Neill to Jaden Ballard covering from Zaby and Brown. Good
concentration from Ballard, good ball from O'Neill at it's thirty
eight to thirteen.

Speaker 8 (02:46:02):
Really nice protection by everybody up front, and a great
job by Ballard of not showing his hands until really
late because the coverage was pretty good. He didn't allow
him to turn his head. And then Ballard late flashes
his hands and was able to win the hand fighting
contest and come down with a great throw, nice catch,
beautifully executed.

Speaker 2 (02:46:22):
Play Vaniel vacos on for the pat as the Badgers
get in for the second time today. A kick return
from Vinnie Anthony in the third quarter, and then the
Danny O'Neill to Jayden Ballard connection as Veco's converts, and

(02:46:42):
let's take a look at the scoring drive brought to
you by your local Wisconsin Ford Dealers. Seven plays, seventy
yards took three minutes and fifty eight seconds. Five point
twenty nine remaining. We'll take a quick break. Alabama thirty eights,
Wisconsin fourteen. This is Badger football from lear Field.

There's some crossing the streams.

Speaker 56 (02:48:30):
Sorry, I did see them there.

Speaker 6 (02:48:32):
If you feel different, you drive different.

Speaker 45 (02:48:35):
Don't drive high.

Speaker 6 (02:48:36):
It's dangerous and illegal everywhere. A message from NITZA and
the AD Council.

Speaker 2 (02:48:46):
Listening to all thanks college sports, including live games and
talk on Serious XM College Sports Radio Channel eighty four
and streaming on the Serious XM app. Danie O'Neill a
forty one yard touchdown past to Jaden Ballard. We have
five twenty nine remaining, Alabama thirty eight, Wisconsin fourteen.

Speaker 9 (02:49:08):
Well you showed up.

Speaker 2 (02:49:09):
I mean, if your coaches and you're seeing who's still
playing right as you got to, you got a Big
Ten season that starts next week.

Speaker 8 (02:49:18):
So absolutely, I think a lot of times that gets underlooked,
and you know it's it's really easy and the outside
fans can leave, but everything else, it's y're up against it.
You want to see how guys react when they're you know,
when they're down, and that was a last Really the
second half, we've seen Wisconsin's offense do some better things. Unfortunately,

(02:49:40):
a couple of mistakes and it goes the other way,
but you're at least seeing the offense move the football,
running a little bit, which we didn't see a lot.

Speaker 3 (02:49:49):
Of in the first half.

Speaker 2 (02:49:50):
Daniel Veko is set to kick off and he gets
all of this, there will be no return back line
of the end zone. It goes for another touchback. Well,
you go back to those early mistakes. Wiscons of the
first possession looked like it might have a little something going.
They thought they had converted a third down, but a
pick play wipes it out and eventually there's an interception.

Speaker 9 (02:50:13):
You stop Alabama on downs, you know.

Speaker 2 (02:50:15):
Near midfield, and another time you're ready to get off
the field on a third down stop but a late hit.
So just those things that underdogs can't do it has
to be in reverse. That's the recipe for a win,
and it just got away from a Austin mack And
at quarterback now for Alabama played some last week and

(02:50:37):
there seventy three nothing went against Louisiana Monroe and a
hand off to eight K deer into the line another
running back and he's wrapped up by Cooper Catalano at
the thirty yard line.

Speaker 9 (02:50:48):
Deer a freshman from.

Speaker 2 (02:50:50):
Equipment Mississippi, and brought down by the freshman linebacker Cooper
Catalano at a gain of five to the thirty.

Speaker 6 (02:50:56):
Of the time.

Speaker 8 (02:50:57):
I love seeing these young freshman linebackers out there in
a big stage. Now, granted the game is determined, but
you'd love seeing them get this experience in case they're
going to be called upon later in this season.

Speaker 2 (02:51:10):
Alabama getting into its depth on the offensive line under center.

Speaker 9 (02:51:15):
Is mac we Go.

Speaker 2 (02:51:16):
Scot the receiver motions to the left hand off the
deer again cutting to his right and he gets popped
first by Allegro and then finishing up was Ben Barton
at the thirty four yard line gain a fourth third
down and one for Alabama with four to thirty eight remaining.

Speaker 8 (02:51:30):
On a day that there have not been a ton
of positives have said this numerous times. Depth at the
defensive line, we've seen, we've seen some good things, and
we've seen a lot of guys getting out there, and
we've been pretty dog on stout against the run, unfortunately
not against the pass.

Speaker 9 (02:51:46):
And Ty Simpson was just terrific. That's today.

Speaker 2 (02:51:49):
They took advantage of those incredibly talented wide receivers that
he has. On third down, here's the hand off the
deer room off the left. He's to the forty flag
down forty five to the fifty, and he'll be pushed
out of ansed by Ricardo Hollman. But there's a penalty
marker way back near the line of scrimmage.

Speaker 12 (02:52:06):
Wrangerback, illegal formation on the offense five or more in
the backfield.

Speaker 3 (02:52:15):
It's a five yard penalty.

Speaker 2 (02:52:17):
It is third down, going back to Simpson twenty four
of twenty nine. And remember two drops in there, three
hundred and eighty two yards and four touchdowns.

Speaker 8 (02:52:27):
Yeah, I don't know about you. I did not anticipate that.
I mean, obviously we weren't going to win if that happened.
I think we always come in and try to You're
a heavy dog, So you try to kind of figure
what's the formula. And I give their offensive line a
lot of credit that they've.

Speaker 3 (02:52:42):
Been taking some heat.

Speaker 8 (02:52:43):
You know, you listen yes at Florida State game and
you know, just talking to folks, it was a lot
of heat there. And to their credit, I thought they
protected Simpson really well early to let him get in
that rhythm and he never really got out of it.

Speaker 2 (02:52:57):
Third down and six for the Tide at the Alabama
twenty nine yard line, Mack to throw, looking under pressure,
flushed to his left, throws to the left and it's
incompletely broken up there. Ricardo Hollman getting in there, pass
intended for Rico Scott right at the marker, which is
the thirty five yard line. So Alabama forced the punt again.

(02:53:17):
So Wisconsin still try to get after it as best
they can in the closing minutes of a lopsided game.

Speaker 8 (02:53:24):
Yeah, what you're trying to do at this point is
you obviously want to do as well as again to finish,
but this now is about next week and understanding your
Big ten season is starting.

Speaker 3 (02:53:34):
You've taken it on the chin today. Now you want
to try to build for next.

Speaker 2 (02:53:39):
Week out on the punt, Henry is deep, the kick
is away, Henry with the fair catch signal at the
thirty yard line, and it was a little contact there,
but it might have been from his own guys. So
the Badger's starting at their twenty nine first and ten
with three point thirty one remaining. Yeah, Maryland winning big today.
It got tested a little bit last week with against

(02:53:59):
Thomas Hammon Northern Illinois team. It was a twenty to
nine win for the Terrapins. Last week they're up forty
four to seven over Towson today.

Speaker 9 (02:54:08):
I'll tell you the Terms have.

Speaker 2 (02:54:09):
A really gifted quarterback, freshman quarterback by the name of
Malik Washington. He's sixteen of twenty two today for two
hundred and sixty one yards, but someone they believe that
holds a ton of promise for them. As Mike Loxley
tries to get things fixed over there, and on first down,
O'Neil will hand off the dry and dupree over the

(02:54:31):
right side, across the thirty yard line and up to
about the thirty two he gets a couple Locksley. He
was very candid during the Big Ten media days in
Las Vegas in July. He said they always lost the
locker room because of the nil world. Some guys making
big money and other guys I'm making much And they
won just the one conference game, and that was in

(02:54:53):
large part because of Billy Edwards leading a comeback win
against USC.

Speaker 3 (02:54:57):
It's more and more difficult.

Speaker 8 (02:54:58):
You just have so many different very that you have
to work through, and that's why you need to win
early in seasons.

Speaker 2 (02:55:04):
And Reese Lott left motions right. Here's the handoff du
Prix across the thirty five yard line. Dupre is driven
back by Red Morgan out of the secondarya at the
thirty eight yard line, just shy of the first down.
It looks like with two minutes and forty seconds to play,
thirty eight to fourteen Alabama.

Speaker 8 (02:55:23):
Good effort there by Marlman on the back side of that,
a nice cut and Marman walled his guy down, allowing.

Speaker 3 (02:55:28):
It to happen.

Speaker 2 (02:55:29):
O'Neil a third down, hands off to Dupre and he'll
get the first down across the forty to the forty
one yard line. Save you're mincing in there defensively, and
that could get us to the two minute timeout. Unless
the Badgers want to up the tempo. They're at their
own forty one yard line. I would think that they
would not want to do that. With the game clock
at two ten and O'Neil still has his team in

(02:55:52):
the huddle.

Speaker 9 (02:55:55):
Two oh five.

Speaker 2 (02:55:56):
Oh, they're going to get this down to the two
minute timeouts and there it is, so we'll take a break.
Two minutes remaining. Alabama thirty eight, Wisconsin fourteen. Back in
a moment, this is bad your football.

This is Badger Football for lear Field. Start of Spotlight
Today's best of the game, brought to you by old
Dominion freightline, Old diminion freightline, where it's hard to be
the best of the game of the to support those
striving to be the best in theirs. Vinnie Anthony got

(02:58:06):
the Badgers on the board and he's a very promising
player just with one catch today, but that ninety five
yard kick return was fun to watch.

Speaker 8 (02:58:14):
I think you're always looking in these big games for
your big time players to step up, and especially when
things have kind of hit rock bottom, which they which they.

Speaker 3 (02:58:23):
Did at that time.

Speaker 8 (02:58:25):
Alabama comes out in the second half, sets up a
beautiful screenplay, they go down and score on it, and
Vinnie Anthony said, I need to make a play and
he did, returning that kick, and in what was a
day of not a ton of positive highlights, Vinnie Anthony
was the probably the brightest of that group.

Speaker 2 (02:58:44):
He was and as you know we were talking with
Patrick too, the toughness of Danny O'Neill hanging in there.
They made some mistakes, we know, but eleven or seventeen,
one hundred and seventeen yards and the two picks, but
the one touchdown to Jayden. So they waited til the
two minute time out before they played Dixie Land Delight here.

(02:59:06):
They have their own lyrics that they sprinkle in. It's
twelve done, twelve done. Yeah, glad they finally played. It
was talking about it all this time. They they it's
the true fans out here, and it's like in the
upper eighties. Now it's sun beaten down on the fans here.
Many have left, but many have stayed. For the forty

(02:59:29):
one of Wisconsin, first and ten as O'Neil andersenter pulls back,
gives to Jacamelle up the left, hash marks and he'll
get a yard or two to the forty three yard
line of Wisconsin, getting in there defensively for Alabama, QB Reese,
what's your freshman? Actually, they'll mark of the forty four

(02:59:51):
second down and seven and.

Speaker 3 (02:59:53):
It's nice to see kid. You'll get some touches here.

Speaker 8 (02:59:56):
He It was a lot of talk about that kind
of a three headed monster that we're looking at running back,
and you know, unfortunately in these first three weeks, we
haven't really unleashed that yet.

Speaker 9 (03:00:09):
I mean just haven't had a ton of space.

Speaker 2 (03:00:11):
Right and second down, Grant Steck the tide End motions
lines up slot to the left. Keckahuna motions they'll give
it to them, end around tretch Kekahuna off the left
side of the his stone Xavier MINSI was right there
at the forty four yard line, third down and seven
of four Wisconsin, you know.

Speaker 8 (03:00:28):
And you could see coming into the game today, you know,
Grimes was really focusing on spreading the field, making Alabama
cover fifty three in a third, you know, the whole
width of the field. And I'll say I think Alabama's
done a very good job.

Speaker 3 (03:00:42):
Of doing that.

Speaker 2 (03:00:43):
They really have the big one with Georgia for the
Tide in a couple of weeks, down to forty seconds
in counting remaining third and seven for the Badgers at
their forty four yard line. Kakahuna motions left to right,
O'Neil in the shotguns, the snamp makes the hand off
the Jacamelli, he'll run it, read it, kept it, and

(03:01:04):
it was Danny O'Neill across midfield and into Alabama territory
for a first down at the forty eight yard lines.

Speaker 8 (03:01:11):
You gotta just love I don't love the fact he's
taking this many hits at the end, especially when we
don't know what's going to happen next week. But his toughness,
and how he is a competitor. He can say a
lot of things. He is competing his tail off today
and a nice job.

Speaker 2 (03:01:27):
They're picking up that first down, game clock winding down,
four seconds remaining, and they'll let it run down. This
one is over and Alabama improves to two and one.
The Badgers will dust themselves off and get ready for
big ten play next Saturday against the Maryland Terrapins. It's
over here in Tuscaloosa. Final score Alabama thirty eight Wisconsin fourteen.

Back, IN, tuscan Lusa where alabama Takes down wisconsin this
afternoon thirty eight. To Fourteen the badgers give up just
seventy two. Rushing yards that's the. Good news the bad
News is alabama had. An Answer ty simpson completes twenty
four to twenty nine passes for three hundred and eighty
two yards and, four touchdowns While the badgers manage just

(03:07:30):
two hundred and nine yards. Of Offense Alongside, Mark Taushire I'm,
matt lapey and we talked about it. Multiple times touts
the anatomy of an upset is you have to be
as clean as possible and get the other guys to,
make mistakes but penalties at the. Worst Times, for wisconsin
it was the frustrating part for All concern you felt

(03:07:51):
like they never gave themselves much of a chance.

Speaker 8 (03:07:53):
Here today they didn't and there was opportunities too early in.
The GAME and i know you're, gonna, say well it's thirty,
eight fourteen that pick play that they called Early because wisconsin's,
moving it and then they get stuck in, a position
and then you have, an interception and then you have a.

Speaker 3 (03:08:09):
Late hit and this was one of those games.

Speaker 8 (03:08:11):
That it was critical to get off to that fast
start and put a little Doubt in alabama's head because there.
Was doubt you can say what, you want they won
seventy whatever to nothing, last week but there was a
little bit of doubt here and that never really was
able to transpire Today because wisconsin made some mistakes early
in this, football game and you let them. Get ahead

(03:08:33):
and when you led a talented team like this kind of,
play free which they did, all day that allowed them
to really. Start rolling and, you know, unfortunately today while
the run defense was, really good the anatomy of an
upset that we kind of discussed in the pregame was
your pass rush has been really good the first couple.
Of weeks we needed to put a lot of Pressure,

(03:08:55):
on simpson And to alabama's offensive, lines credit they held up.
Really well and when, that happened he got into, a
rhythm and that really was the end of any Chance
for wisconsin to pull off a.

that's gonna happen. THIS time i would be all, for.
It yep but you go through those very tough, growing pains.

Don't you you just, can't expect, you know you throw
guys out there, and think and especially you go into
an sec into sec country.

Speaker 3 (03:10:18):
Against a really, good front there's gonna be.

Speaker 8 (03:10:20):
Some HICCUPS and i thought you tried to do some
different things with jet sweeps and a lot of lateral
things to try and alleviate some of the pressure on.
Those guys but football still comes down to can you
make plays on third and? Six plus and unfortunately Today
that wisconsin continue to put themselves in those positions. And
worse and, you know the old Great Bat brad childress

(03:10:42):
used to, ALWAYS say i don't have.

Speaker 3 (03:10:43):
A lot of play calls for third and.

Speaker 8 (03:10:45):
Fifteen plus there's not a lot of stuff that even

and do the things on, your own and that kind

Speaker 23 (03:19:02):
The.

Speaker 67 (03:19:02):
Day yeah the WHOLE key i thought was we had
to we had to be a, good start, you know
we had to be consistent of what we, were doing and,
you know obviously we couldn't get we get some stops,
and defensively, you know and fourth down and then, you
know we turned the ball over and just the non
complimentary stuff right there in the first half put us in,

(03:19:24):
a position, you know and then we make some, YOU
know i don't say bone, head mistakes but, you know
you get a pounty on our third down we were off,
the field and, you know then that's what's the complimentary
football is the other way and they turned into, a
touchdown and, you know it just there was, a little
a little chink right there that we weren't able to
recover and they exposed.

Speaker 5 (03:19:43):
Us defensively on. The ground you guys held up.

Speaker 29 (03:19:46):
Really well but their throw game just almost four four hundred,
yards passing.

Speaker 67 (03:19:51):
Pretty, IMPRESSIVE yeah, i Mean ty simpson had a day
and that's. On us We didn't we did not, Pressure
him we didn't get him off. A spot we didn't
make his life. Very difficult and when that's the case
and he's throwing too as good guys as he's got,
out there it makes. It difficult and, YOU know i think,
you know it starts there, with him and, you know
if you can't find a way to get some pressure on,

(03:20:13):
the guy it's. Really difficult in the back end to stay,
covered UP and i mean we went from man to
zone to all, different things and he did a he tore.

Speaker 29 (03:20:20):
Us apart would you think of the play of, your
quarterback nanny you on.

Speaker 67 (03:20:23):
EEL today, i mean obviously just, you know the the interceptions,
stand OUT but i think there's a lot of, other
things the, competitive nature the things we've asked him. To
do he continues to. Get better, you know with the,
YOUNGER guys, i think, you know sometimes you got to
grow through some of. Those pains but on the road
in a place, like this that's not the recipe to
probably to have the success we needed.

Speaker 29 (03:20:44):
To, have luke when you're picking up, bright spots even
though they score on their first offensive play of the,
second half you answer with the ninety five yard.

Speaker 67 (03:20:51):
Kick, RETURN yeah i guess there's there's the one. Bright spot, you,
know defensively pride yourself on not giving up. Big plays
and you come out the start the second half and
something you've, you know done a few times and, you
know they take it in ninety yards or whatever. It
was and on the back end, of that Then Then
vinnie anthony, takes one you know back to. The house so,

(03:21:12):
you know there's there's a bright, spot there but that's surely,
too little.

Speaker 5 (03:21:15):
Too late what can you take?

Speaker 29 (03:21:17):
From this you're going To begin big ten play in
a week and the page has to turn. Fairly quickly
so what do you take? From this and what do
you do starting to?

Speaker 67 (03:21:25):
Get ready there's a lot of things that we TAKE from,
I mean i think that most importantly that we got
to find find these guys a way to make sure they're.
Staying together, you know it's frustrating, out there, you know,
for everybody for myself and everybody. Else included but the season,
starts now and that's what. You know you didn't say,
that beforehand, you know you wanted to go out there
and you know obviously see where you were and. Test

(03:21:45):
yourself and. We, didn't uh we didn't fare as well
as we should have and. Could have but the truth
of the matter is this is, what uh this is
what you got to be ready for for this, this
week coming in this mountain that we got to climb
in front.

Speaker 3 (03:21:55):
Of us final.

Speaker 29 (03:21:57):
Quick thought if some would ask about this being a measuring,
stick game how do you? Measure?

Speaker 6 (03:22:01):
UP well i told him that.

Speaker 67 (03:22:05):
Wherever we are, right now it's not, good enough and
that's a better team than, we are that's. For sure
my whole, Focus, was hey what's it going to be
like at the end of. The year what's it going
to look like, after, eight nine ten? More games are
we better? Than that are we better than? That team
would it be a? Different story not that you ever
get another opportunity, At that but the truth matter is

(03:22:27):
that's where our focus had. To be there's a commitment
level to what we have to be able, to do
and we have to make sure that as this thing continues,
to roll we are a much better team.

Speaker 56 (03:22:36):
Moving, forward luke.

Speaker 9 (03:22:38):
Thank.
