Speaker 1 (02:06):
Good morning from Barry Alvarez Field at Camp Randalls Stadium,
alongside from Mark Towsher, Patrick Kerb, Mike Keller, Dave McCann,
our engineer at Aisha Jackson Back int A Network Studio.
This is Matt Leapey. We welcome you to Wisconsin football,
and we welcome you to the starts of the Big
Ten season as the Badgers host the Maryland Terrapinds. Before

(02:27):
we get started, let's pause ten seconds for station identification,
ten for an ID. This is Badger football fromlear Field.
Maryland comes to town with a three and oh record
non conference wins against Florida Atlantic, Northern Illinois, and Towson.
The Badgers are two and one home field wins against
Miami and Middle Tennessee and a rough one last Saturday

(02:49):
in Tuscaloosa against the Alabama Crimson Tides. Now the Badgers
get home, trying to get right and trying to start
the Big Ten season on a winning note. And with that,
it's time for our construction business group Keys to the Game,
Wisconsin Operating Engineers, Build your career Joined one, three to
nine dot com. What do you have for today's keys?

Speaker 5 (03:11):
Dal So, I mean I would come out and say
the obvious, which is getting able to run the football
and do some things on the ground. We have not
been able to do that, but I think at this
point where we're at, this defense needs to be the
catalyst for this football team. And Maryland has a really
talented freshman quarterback that is going to make some plays,

(03:31):
but I believe is also going to have You're gonna
give your defense some opportunities to make plays. So I
think the defense the first two weeks was dynamite. Last
week did a really nice job and I know it's
you know, it's not the greatest compliment. They did a
really good job stop in the run. They couldn't stop
the pass well. Today, I think keeping Washington in the

(03:51):
pocket and being able to get after him with our
edge and with our depth up front, that to me,
is going to be the key to this game, because
I think this defense pass to set the tone and
really be the catalyst to get this team going, especially
early in this.

Speaker 1 (04:05):
Game, to see the defense to help the offense. Well,
the offense hoping to get a little bit of a
boost here today, we'll see how it unfolds as Billy
Edwards is ready to get back into the starting lineup.
Danny O'Neil has been repping throughout the course of the
week as well, but for more on the quarterback story,
let's set it down to our sideline reporter Patrick Herb.

Speaker 9 (04:28):
Good morning, gentlemen, what a great Dan cam Brandall didn't
realize I would need sunscreen today when I woke up,
But it's gonna be a beautiful day.

Speaker 1 (04:34):
Here at cam Randall.

Speaker 9 (04:36):
And you mentioned that how it unfolds is the question mark,
and I think that is still the question mark when
it comes to quarterback. We know that Billy Edwards is
going to start, but all week it has been uncertain
all the way up until probably last night, and.

Speaker 1 (04:49):
That's not because of a skill thing.

Speaker 9 (04:50):
That's because they just weren't sure how Billy would react
after each practice and how he would respond the very
next day. So during the week, both him and Danny
O'Neil have taken reps with the first team and they're
preparing for all situations. So we know Billy will start,
but the fickle has said multiple times that we'll have
to see how comfortable he is. So what that could

(05:12):
mean is they could have packages where Danny O'Neil plays
to bring out his skill set even if Billy Edwards.

Speaker 1 (05:18):
Is still healthy. Don't be surprised if we see some
of that.

Speaker 9 (05:21):
According to offensive coordinator Jeff Grimes, he said about eighty
percent of the play calls don't change between the two players,
so it's not as if they need a different game plan,
but there is a twenty percent play sheet that is
different between the two quarterbacks. The last thing I'll add,
Luke Fickle has said managing the team's psyche has been
important this week, and he learned a little bit from
twenty twenty three when Braylan Allen kind of went into

(05:44):
every game with his status unknown, will he play, won't
he played? Sometimes he left during the middle of the game,
and he thought that that sometimes led to a letdown
with his team, that they were emotionally invested that yes, Braylan,
Braylan Allen is going to play, and then if he
goes down this there's this deflating in the bench, and
you want to make sure that whether Billy can or
cannot play, whether Billy can or cannot finish, that that

(06:07):
psyche is managed and there's no deflating. And they have
confidence in Danny O'Neil and their game plan moving.

Speaker 1 (06:12):
Forward and his center, thank you Patrick. His center will
be another red shirt freshman, as Ryan Corey will get
the call. So three red shirt freshman tush in the
starting line at the center all the way to the
obviously right guard, right tackle. So, as Luke Fickle has said,
this week. This is the situation they're in. So young
tellers become men real fast.

Speaker 5 (06:33):
Time up quick, yeah, and you get You got a
little bit of that last week down at Tuscaloosa, which
is gonna be about as tough of an environment as
you can. So a lot of times you just have
to let guys make They're gonna be some mistakes, but
you want to see it.

Speaker 1 (06:45):
Aggressive point toss down the field. The captains are ready.

Speaker 10 (06:49):
Big ten logo represents you get to make the choice. Okay,
I'm gonna flip it, pat it hit the ground. Carolynn,
You've won the toss is your choice.

Speaker 1 (07:05):
So Marylyn has won the toss and has elected to defer.
So the Badgers will receive go left to right, north
to south. Here at Camp Randall Stadium, the Badger captains
today Jackson Aker, along with Mason Riger and Darryl Peterson
the honorary captain, are of the great offensive linemen in
Wisconsin football history. Dennis Lick here from the early to

(07:27):
mid seventies and had himself a really nice NFL career
as well with the Chicago Bears as a Badger block
for the likes of Bill Merrick as a Bear block
for the likes of Walter Payton around greatness both here
in Madison and obviously in the NFL, and Dennis look
one of the all time great That O line you
thing has been a thing for a long time, it.

Speaker 5 (07:48):
Has, and that's a billy and obviously blocking for Walter
Payton's pretty specially Dennis still getting around pretty good for
I don't know however old he is, but I hope
when I'm that I'm moving around at that jumping around
pretty good down there.

Speaker 1 (08:03):
It is sulphull. We said this before us say it again.
It is so fun for us as fans to see
these former Badger players come back. But there's a great
meaning for those former play You've done it, You've been.

Speaker 5 (08:13):
That guy, yes, and very You would think it's not
a big deal, but I know it's just nice get
back out there, hear the crowd roar a little bit
and get that appreciation. I saw Luke dap him up
in the current players. It's a big deal for alumni
to come back and be honored in that way, and
it's cool to see Dennis in that light.

Speaker 1 (08:30):
Yeah, love to see these football lums get always that
It is well deserved. Warm welcome back here for all
they did in their time in a Wisconsin uniform. Philip
Noides will kick off for the Turfs. Yeah, Vinnie, Anthony
and Kai Yakam led deep. Of course, Anthony brought one
back ninety five yards against Alabama for a touchdown. Let's

(08:52):
see what happens as we begin play here. Today's seventy
one degrees, a mix of clouds and sun and hopefully
drive throughout. Is this kick is a ground ball that'll
be fielded at the twenty. There'll be other ball actually
fell off the tee, so he did well to make
contact with it, so they'll try it again. They never

(09:14):
thought you need a binoculars on a football on a
tee here, but my goodness, that that had's swinging a
missile written all over it. So credit you know he
put the ball in play. Even though we'll do it
over again. It's not like it's you know, a really
windy day here either. I might add The breeze is
light out of the southeast, so we'll try again. Just

(09:38):
when you think you've seen everything, kickoff, take two and
Noise runs up and the kick is away and he
hammers this one. There will be no return it'll hit
the back line of the end zone for the touchback,
and the Wisconsin Badgers first up on offense with Billy
Edwards starting at their own twenty five yard line.

Speaker 5 (10:00):
It is going to be of utmost importance here to
protect him get the running game going. You do not
want to be in a lot of third and longs
where you're gonna have to do some ad lipping and
get out of the pocket. I think today is one
of those, especially early three point five step. Get the
ball out of your hands, get it into your receiver's hands,
and let this thing go. Really important to see the start.

Speaker 1 (10:21):
Here and they'll work out of the pistol with Dylan
Jones the running back to receivers right, Chris Brooks to
the left. First down hand off, Dylan Jones up the middle,
tries to cut it to his right, and he'll take
it up near the thirty yard line as the cars
the better part of five yards out of the middle
of the first play for scrimmage. Seck it down coming
up for Wisconsin.

Speaker 5 (10:40):
Yeh, nice patients there by Jones. He kind of followed
his lead blocker Brunner stayed on his back and there
when there wasn't much kind of a little scrum ended up.
Tretch Kakahuna did a really nice job of ceiling bouncing
it and picking up a quick five.

Speaker 1 (10:52):
Chris Brooks Vinning Anthony Tretch Kekahuna trips to the left
Lance Mason. The tied end lines up on the right
side of the formation. Second and five with the Badgers
at their own thirty Edwards a throw one pump clips
over the middle cluck by Trech forty forty five fifty
forty five forty Kakahuna thirty five thirty outside the numbers.
Pada gets tossed out of bass inside the twenty five
yard line by Jalen Husky. They'll mark at the twenty

(11:14):
five short pass long gain forty five yards the Badgers
and Maryland territory first and ten.

Speaker 5 (11:21):
Beautiful protection up front allowed Edwards all kinds of time
and what was key there. Tretch is running basically a
little over route from the left side, and Billy put
it right in stride so Tretch didn't have to reach
back full speed. Lot of room after catch.

Speaker 1 (11:35):
Back to the pistol formation for the Maryland twenty five
yard line. First and ten. Dylan Jones behind the quarterback
Brooks and Kakahuna to the left, Anthony to the right,
and the first down hand off Dylan Jones hits it
off the right side inside the twenty five and down
of the twenty two yard line. Cam Rice defensive tackle
getting in there defensively for the Terrapins at a gain
of three second out and seven for Wisconsin.

Speaker 5 (11:58):
And that you know that's it doesn't look like a
lot two or three yards, but the right side of
that offense of the young crew over there, man dal
it coverly nice push. Lance Mason came in as a
tight end, kind of kicked it out and you picked
up a quick three. Whereas in the past we have
not seen that on first out.

Speaker 1 (12:15):
Rant steck in there now at tied end, did they
Anthony in motion right to left, shot Gun staff Edwards
on second down looking throws right side high pass and
it goes off the hands of Jade Ballard and it
falls harmlessly to the turf. Dante Joiner, the cornerback, dangerously
close to picking that off from a deflection, but it
falls in complete third and seven Wisconsin at the Maryland

(12:38):
twenty two yard line.

Speaker 5 (12:39):
What Maryland did there is they lined up five guys
on all five offensive lineman. There's no help. We're just
gonna go. And actually the protection held up. That was
the case there. I think Billy just a little uncomfortable
in the pocket, just kind of shot put in it
and all very fortunate that ball fell to the ground.

Speaker 1 (12:54):
Two receivers left. Jayden Baller did the right shotgun snap edwards,
hands off, Dylan Jones trying to be patient, but much
room to slide through as he gets just a yard
I and Thomas getting in there. Daniel Wingate on the
inside linebackers as Jones has stopped at the twenty one
yard line. So it's fourth down and six and the
Badgers will send on Toathaniel Vacos or the field goal team.

Speaker 5 (13:14):
Just a little too much penetration off the right side,
the young side of this Wisconsin offensive line, and he
had a bounce it bounce cut that back sooner than
he wanted, and then the pursuit from Maryland got back
and allowed really no gain there.

Speaker 1 (13:28):
On that run. Nathaniel Vecos will try a thirty eight
yard field goal from the right hash mark two and
a half minutes into the game, Badgers looking for early points.
That ball down kick is blocked scooped up inside the
twenty yard line, and that was Vekos who scooped it up.
But he'll be stopped short of the first down inside
the twenty to the nineteen yard line. Timeout, and with

(13:50):
that we have our first time out as the Badgers
again with a good looking possession, but it sputters and
then the field goal attempts gets blocked. So we'll take
a break. Today is celebrate Agriculture game brought to you
by a Cleary Building Corps Culver's case I Agent, Compeer Financial.
We'll step away from the rail Transport broadcast booth. A

(14:12):
little more than two and a half minutes gone by
the Badgers and Terps, no score. This is Badger football
from lear Field.

(16:26):
left in the first quarter and now the first possession
for Malik Washington and Maryland offense.

Speaker 5 (16:32):
That's a gut punch because you move the football, you
have a big play to tretch in your in position
and you come away with no points. Pendulum swings Maryland's
way turps.

Speaker 1 (16:43):
Going south to north, right to left. As we view
it as Washington will duck under his center. Dawan Williams
is the running back. Washington pulls back and a deep drop.
He's got a big arm pressure for Peterson. They'll check
it down, but it's incomplete, a bit low but catchuple
Williams could not gather and Matt Young over there. Defensively,
he's in there for Preston Zachman. Let's get more on

(17:03):
Zachman being out again. As we sent it down the Patrick,
I think a surprise to a lot of people.

Speaker 9 (17:08):
But Zachman got hurt last week against Alabama, ended up
finishing the game through that injury. He's got a lower
body injury that keeps him out of today. That means
Matt Young is in there. And we've talked about it before.
But a great story a Nina Wisconsin kidd who ended
up playing Division three at Bethel and this is his
dream to come back and be able to play in Camprandle.
Now he's making his first career start. Let's hope he
Let's help he excels in that role.

Speaker 1 (17:29):
Real double wide to the right piscol formation. Williams the
running back and has snapped to Malak Washington rolling off
to his right, looking throws right side and at his
cought across the forty five yard line. Octavian Smith rolls
to the turf at the forty five yard line of Maryland.
So a first down full of the turfs, just.

Speaker 5 (17:50):
A straight out roll out, trying to get a wide
open space give him some room to throw it. I
thought he would take the under. Oute took the over
big play.

Speaker 1 (17:58):
Kay, it's twenty six down for Maryland. Receivers either side
Washington under center, single back offense. Washington will hand off
the Williams hits the right edge across the forty five
and he'll be steered out of the bounds by the
safety Austin Brown near midfield or right at midfield. The
gain of a better part of five ball just shy

(18:18):
of a fifty second down and five plus change.

Speaker 5 (18:21):
Yeah, pretty good push there by the right side of
Maryland's offense. Allegro Is there in position, ended up having
to swipe dive. Adam was unable to get him down
on the ground. They allowed him to pick up five.

Speaker 1 (18:32):
Octavian Smith wied to the right, two receivers to the left.
Shotgun formation. Washington, who will give off to Williams off
the right side. You'll get the first down driving it
inside the forty five down to the forty two of
Wisconsin tacked Curtis over there defensively with help from Austin
Brown and a gain of eight to the first down
for the Turfs.

Speaker 5 (18:51):
Yeah, same play, just the outside zone play to the right.
He ended up cutting off of the right tackle, tacking
Curtis is able to corral him, but not till he
picked up the first out.

Speaker 1 (19:00):
All right, Maryland coming out a little funky here with
a couple of offensive linemen out wide. They're two tackles,
and now they'll go ahead and shift your both teams
could show some interesting looks. We've certainly seen it from
Jeff Grimes in these first three games in his time
as the offensive coordinator. Now under center is Washington off

(19:22):
the play. Fake deep drop winds up, but it's a
deep right down the middle, and it is incomplete, intended
for Caleb Webb. Good coverage from Dionni Hill as Maryland
takes a shot and it's incomplete. Second and ten at
the Wisconsin forty two yard line.

Speaker 5 (19:38):
Yeah, they overloaded. They brought their right tackle, Alan Herron
over on the left side, left to tight end, actually
playing right tackle, and you're thinking, as a defensive coordinator,
all right, they're going to run the ball left. We
saw Wisconsin do that a little bit last week. Maryland
decided to take a shot one on one coverage, Fortunately
overthrew it.

Speaker 1 (19:55):
We're four and a half minutes in, no score. Torian
fleming the tight end motions left to right, two receivers
left breaking out of the backfield to his leftist Dewan Williams.
Washington back to throw pumps throws over the middle and
it's dropped by Octavian Smith at the forty. We've mentioned
that has been an issue for Maryland in these first
three games. They have had numerous drops. Washington came in

(20:18):
sixty two of his first one hundred throws, but it
should be more like seventy two out of one hundred
and a couple of drops here early on today. Third
and ten now on the Wisconsin forty two yard line,
Maryland will come out trips to the left. Jalil Farouk,
Octavian Smith along with Shalik Knotts Knots with touchdown receptions

(20:41):
in each of the first three games from Maryland this season.
Shotgun stab Badgers send four, Washington checks it down. It's
cotton who Dorian Fleming just got tagged by Jamir Latimer
bell Mark at the forty yard line of Wisconsin. A
gain of two and that's a catch up feel as
Latimer brought it.

Speaker 5 (21:02):
The second time we've seen Darryl Peterson beat his man
very quickly off the snap, got in Washington's face, forced
that ball to throw at a beautiful job at Latimer
of coming down and really bring in the wood setting
up forcing a punt here for Maryland.

Speaker 1 (21:18):
Rice McPherson on the puntline of scrimmage at Wisconsin forty
and the pressure is on, the kick is away, Tyrell
Henry will let it hit and it'll fly into the
end zone for the touchback. The Badgers will take over
at their twenty yard line. So Dearylyn had a little
drive going. The Badgers then blow up and get the
offense back on the field. Badger fans don't miss your

No score, Billy Edwards, the Badger offense back out there.
Actually it'll be Danny O'Neill and the Badger offense out there,
starting up the twenty yard line first and ten.

Speaker 5 (24:16):
And I think one of the things we've seen you
mentioned at a bunch of those intermediate throws. I think
what Tresa is gonna want to see continue keep Washington
in that pocket. He throws a really good deep ball,
but they've dropped some of those. I think finding that
touch on those intermediate throws, I think we're going to
see some balls bopped up in the air today. Opportunities
for picks.

Speaker 1 (24:35):
Badgers come out four wives to either side, Dylan Jones
the running back, Danny O'Neal the quarterback, and the hand
Aubrey reads it keeps it O'Neal running left across the
twenty twenty five yard line and Danny O'Neal up to
the twenty eight yard line. So, as Patrick reported, you
have you know, the play sheet is pretty similar about
eighty percent, but there are some things that particularly now

(24:57):
are better suited for Danny. He runs for eight. Now
Edwards is back in there on second and two at
the Wisconsin twenty eight.

Speaker 5 (25:03):
Yeah, use skill sets, use the skill sets that you have,
and when your quarterback maybe isn't one hundred percent, find
different ways. A nice little read option eight yard pickup
and now Billy comes in second to two.

Speaker 1 (25:15):
Jaden Ballard tied to the left, LANCEA Mason the tight
end motions left and here's Edward's back to throw Wolls
to his right. He'll throw it up and away is
the pursuit was on incomplete. It's now third down and
two for the Badgers at their own twenty eight yard line, and.

Speaker 5 (25:30):
There you saw it. A little petty's coming off the field.
They're a little hitching as giddy up and when he
had to add lip and get out of the pocket,
does a nice job. Didn't try to do something heroic
bounce back out and now I believe we're changing quarterbacks again.

Speaker 1 (25:44):
Yep, Danny O'Neill back in there and just kind of
they repped. I don't know what the actual percentage was,
but both guys got a lot of work in this week.
And it's third down and two for the Badgers their
own twenty eight yard line. Jones the running back to
the right of the quarterback Keck who in motion though
think the end a round keeping it is O'Neill slip
to tackle against the first down, he got around Ian

(26:06):
Thomas and that bought O'Neil just enough room to get
it up to the thirty one yard line needed too.
He got three at a first down.

Speaker 5 (26:13):
Really good read there. The run was fantastic, but you
saw tretch on that little jet end around and Maryland
played that really well. He had to do a little dodging,
a little weaving, and he found just enough space there
to pick up that first down.

Speaker 1 (26:26):
Eight thirty left in the first quarter. Those score is
a Badgers. I will go heavy to the lefts little
wildcat QB direct snap goes to Dylan Jones and and
he gets very little on the play up to the
thirty two yard line. Another played that they were repping
this week. A little wildcat action with Jones O'Neill still

(26:48):
out there. It will be a gain of one second
down to nine for the Badgers of their thirty two
yard line.

Speaker 5 (26:52):
Really nice. It was a really good snap, but it
had a lot of pepper on it. He had ry
Corey out their stap and had a hard snap. But
I actually looked as if Dylan Jones caught that and
was surprised he caught it, and it was one off
that left side and only picked up one but avoided
something major happening.

Speaker 1 (27:08):
JP ben Shall in at right guard. Now two receivers left,
one on the right, shotgun stamp O'Neill, Maryland rushing four
and that's all they'll need is they get to O'Neil.
Sidney Stewart a very good looking freshman edge player gets
the sack down of the twenty five yard line. Good
looking outside linebacker Sidney Stewart. He gets O'Neil for a

(27:29):
loss of seven of the twenty five of Wisconsin. Third
and sixteen Badgers get back on the ball slot left
slot right.

Speaker 5 (27:37):
Yeah, and that was off of Joe Runner, our left guard.
He just got a soft edge there. I was able
to finish through and get O'Neil down on the ground.

Speaker 1 (27:45):
Brood in sixteen for the Badgers at their own twenty
five yard line, snap to O'Neil, four man rush again.
O'Neill throws left side, hangs in the air, intercepted by
Husky at midfield to the forty yard line right side
thirty twenty five to twenty to the fifteen wives to
the ted out of the five yard line, first and
goal Maryland. The ball hung up there and Jalen Husky

(28:06):
with the interception, first and goal for the Terrapins, Bill
Mark at the four. Well.

Speaker 5 (28:11):
That was a stunt. Beat beat the center Ryan Corey
off the edge a little bit, got a little leakage
off that left side, and Danny O'Neil felt that and
decided to take a shot throw it up and it
was a bad decision, but the pressure by Maryland is
what forced that bad decision. And that was as easy
of a pick it was. The safety just rolled over,

(28:32):
picked it off in front of Tretch and then did
a really nice job of returning it. Luckily, Wisconsin was
able to bring him down and you at least give
your defense a fight and chance to stop to hold
them to three here as they're inside the five yard line.

Speaker 1 (28:44):
After that return, cam Rice was the Terrapin putting pressure
and Jalen Husky with that forty five yard return of
the interception first and goal for the Terrapins at the four.
Nol And Ray in a running back and Washington will
give it to up the right hash mark and he
takes it down to the one yard line, tacking Curtis

(29:05):
in there to make the stop and it's second in
goal Maryland at the one with six point forty left
of the first quarter and the leak, Washington gets him
to the line of scrimmage. Nolan Ray remains the running
back six twelve pound red shirt sophomore to the right

(29:25):
of the quarterback. Washington will read it, pull it work
off the right side and he is in touchdown Maryland
the league. Washington covers the final yard, so the Terrapins
pay off on the turnover and Maryland is first on
the board.

Speaker 5 (29:41):
Yeah, they get the ball inside the four at first run,
just physical downhill. They faked that exact same play in Washington,
just holds it, lets that thing read out. Unfortunately, Ryger
kind of bit inside. Nobody out on the perimeter, and
Washington walked in for the touchdown.

Speaker 1 (29:59):
Sean O'Hare is out there for the extra point. So
a Wisconsin mistake results in an early touchdown for Maryland.
The pat is good, only had to cover four yards,
so now we'll see how Wisconsin comes off the canvas

Speaker 5 (32:43):
It's gonna be a long day if we're gonna be
sitting here, And it felt like last week down in Alabama.
It was, you know, mistakes that you had an OPI
early in that game. And you go from manageable third
and five, third and six, which whether it's O'Neil or
Edwards in there, you feel okay about. You start getting
into that third and fifteen sixteen, there's a sack right

(33:03):
before that interception. It just makes it really tough for
a play caller, especially with the youth that this offensive
line has on a you know, for plays at are
third and fifteen, third and sixteen, and when you do that,
you're going to make some mistakes, and these mistakes kill you.
And that's what just happened. That's what just transpired in
the last three or four minutes of this game.

Speaker 1 (33:25):
Philip Noise set to kick off Vinnie Anthony kid yakamelle
are deep.

Speaker 12 (33:32):
Man.

Speaker 1 (33:33):
Here's the run up, always with the kick in the
air return chance for Vinnie if he wants it. He'll
field at the nine left side, ten fifteen across the
twenty twenty five yard line, Anthony across the thirty and
is driven down here the thirty one yard line of Wisconsin,
and that's where the Badgers will begin. Well, they have
talked about it throughout the summer and certainly in the
training camp where they believe they're better equipped to come

(33:56):
off the canvas when they get knocked down. We're gonna
find out. I mean they found out opening night when
Billy Edwards went down with the injury, plus all the
other injuries. But now you're you're reeling a little bit.
Let's see what kind of answer the Badgers can come
up with.

Speaker 5 (34:09):
And we've seen Danny O'Neil. Now he's made mistakes in
the games he's played, and he has bounced back and
done some good things. He's gonna be asked to do
that again here.

Speaker 1 (34:17):
He's in there right now. Darry Andrew Pree is the
running back. Gene Hilkson comes out wide to the left,
the high shotgun staff to O'Neill, tying the scan now
drifting to his right, chase by Ian Thomas, O'Neil looking
and he'll throw it away in complete second and ten
for the Badgers at their own thirty one.

Speaker 5 (34:36):
Yeah, really good protection there. Ryan Corey actually lost his helmet,
so he's gonna have to come out for a play here.
But good protection allowed O'Neill to kind of scan and
to see and the look and wisely, if there's nothing there,
you throw it out of bounds. You live for another day.

Speaker 1 (34:51):
Kerry Kodonko in its center now, Ryan Coverley back in
at right guard. We saw JP Benshall on the last possession,
so Kodonko the center at least for this play. Chris
Brooks slot right, two receivers right, one to the left.
On second and ten, reading keeping O'Neil throws right side,
caught by Lance Mason, and he'll fight his way up

(35:12):
to a lot the thirty five yard line. Levane Scruggs
the safety over on the tackle gain of four. Third
down and six four Wisconsin is Ryan Cory back in
in there at center.

Speaker 5 (35:22):
Full the badger just a little rpo. Actually he pulled
it and then had to nice job by O'Neil because
the defensive end actually got in his face. Did a
little side arm job over there and able to pick
up four or five yards to Mason.

Speaker 1 (35:34):
Anthony Kekahuna and Mason to the lefts Chris Brooks to
the right for the Wisconsin thirty five yard line. Third
down and six, snapped to O'Neill. He's gonna run it
off the right side across the thirty five yard line
gets swallowed up by Sidney Stewart at the thirty seven
and it's fourth down and four. As the Badgers will
gain well will be forced to punt. We have five

(35:54):
twenty left of the first quarter. Seven nothing Maryland.

Speaker 5 (35:57):
That was just a designed quarterback run right to jump in.
What you hope for there is either you know, a
blitz or those linebackers running out of there because it
was a you know, third and six, that's what you
were hoping for. Maryland didn't do that. They stayed in there.
One blocked up great, and now we're forced to punt.

Speaker 1 (36:16):
Jalil Farouk is deep at the twenty yard line of
Maryland line of scrimmage. The Wisconsint thirty seven snapped to
Atticus Pertram's steps up and the kick is away for
Ruke waits for it. You'll catch the eighteen yard line,
makes one man miss but has driven down nothing really
on the return, all in our net busting down there
in punt coverage. A forty five yard punt, just a

(36:37):
couple yards on the return, as the Terrapins will be
starting at their nineteen yard line when they get back
on offense. Fan's college football season is Modello's season. If

and the Terrapins on offense, starting at their nineteen yard line.

(39:27):
Natson Smith that will ride to the left, a littl
Farouk will break in motion left to right crystal formation
with Dwan Williams the running back. Malik Washington the quarterback,
does a little spin and a quick pass is dropped
by for Rooke at the nineteen yard line of the
far side. So that's three drops already for this Maryland offense.
Second and tent And.

Speaker 5 (39:46):
I think this is one of the things you know,
Milike Washington's a really young quarterback, dynamic and talented. But
just watching film this week, one of the things you
keep seeing is he I don't think he's quite figured
out that you don't have to fire rifle shots every
time he throws every everything so hard. So yes, they're
dropping the football, but it is not. He's got to
figure that piece of it out yet. That'll be his

(40:06):
next step.

Speaker 1 (40:07):
Like the Mike Homer in the line of Brett Fahr,
you want to stop throwing his rocketballs. One of the
on second down, Washington hands off the Williams off the
right side, gets up across the twenty yard line to
the twenty one on a game of a couple Tyrese
Fearbrie outside linebacker, wraps him up. Third down and eight
for Maryland.

Speaker 5 (40:24):
Yeah, great job by Fearbria reading that because that was
actually blocked up pretty well the backside they had it
cut off. Fearbrix really did a good job of collapsing
down and bringing him down, setting up a long third down.

Speaker 1 (40:35):
Out trying to get into it. Urge on the home
team here, it has been another bad start. Two receivers left,
one on the rights for the Maryland twenty one yard line,
third down, eight yards to go. Snap, the Washington Badgers
bring four pockets tied left side pass caught by fleming
the tight end across the twenty five and it gets
popped out of bounds. He had Jamir Latimer and Ricardo

(40:56):
Hallman over there and they stopped Dorian Fleming a couple
of yard short of the stick. They mark of the
twenty seven and Maryland territory and on comes the bunt team.

Speaker 5 (41:05):
Latimer is fired up today. You can see he is
bringing it. That's his second big hit and that was
needed there. Wisconsin showed pressure walked some guys up ended up,
bailing everything out, but kept everything underneath. Forced the throw
and then the key tackle before that first non marker.
Nice jot by Latimer getting off the field here.

Speaker 1 (41:23):
Bryce McPherson on the punch snap, good pressure, light, kick
is away. Tyrrell Henry will signal for the fair catch
and he'll gather at the twenty five yard line in
Wisconsin territory. So that's what the Badgers begin. After a
forty eight yard punt three minutes nineteen seconds left in
the first quarter, it is seven to nothing, Maryland leading

(41:44):
Wisconsin first. Has been a nice weapon as a puncher
coming into this game, averaging nearly forty nine yards per
for the terrifies.

Speaker 5 (41:53):
And right now Maryland, this thing has started off just
how they would hope they create a turnover. They've moved
the foot a little bit. They've done some things and
their special teams has been shrunk. Wisconsin needs They had
the one big play to Tretch right off the jump,
and since then it's been a couple of mistakes, not
being able to sustain anything. We need to change that
right here.

Speaker 1 (42:13):
JP Ben Shawl, the fifth year senior back in there
at right guard pistol formation on first and ten. O'Neil
takes hand off up the middle as Derriian Duprie across
the thirty yard line drags a linebacker up to the
thirty five had a first down. Say here, matthis was
hanging on for dear life. Good strong run, a gain
of ten and a first down at the Wisconsin thirty five.

Speaker 5 (42:34):
Nice job by the young fell out of I tackle
Mandel did a beautiful job of locking his guy down
then just good pushed, really nice run by dupre kept
his pads down, was patient and finished through contact.

Speaker 1 (42:46):
The three stays in there to the right of Danny O'Neil.
The kill crowdis in there at receiver and they'll give
it to crowded a little into round running right thirty
five forty forty five yard line. Crowdis up near midfield
Messiah dell oh I'm on the stop at the midfield
stripe and a gain of fifteen at a first down
for Wisconsin. Crowdess. The transfer was at Hawaii last season,

(43:10):
three years at Kentucky, and the receiver gets Wisconsin a
first down. Nice.

Speaker 5 (43:15):
We've seen this that play have a lot of success.
Last week Alabama not as much. That beautifully done.

Speaker 1 (43:21):
And they put four offensive linemen out wide to the right,
Ryan Cory flanked by the tight end of the full back,
and motion goes Dylan Jones running left and he will
break a tackle across the fifty to the forty five
and he has popped out of bounds by Jalen Husky
at the forty three yard line. So Jeff Grimes gets
a little funky with the formation. A gain of seven

(43:43):
and it's second down and three for Wisconsin.

Speaker 5 (43:45):
You think all those linemen out to the right, maybe
a stream pass something quick, you get that big convoy.
They go the opposite way and then a beautiful job
there of stiff arming Carlton Smith, their linebacker that allowed
him to pick up seven yards out first.

Speaker 1 (44:00):
Out, one forty three left of the first quarter. Seven nothing.
Maryland Wildcat QB Dylan Jones and the snap sales by
him inside the thirty five. Jones trying to scoop it up,
and he does. Cam Rice is on him and they
go the wrong way, all the way back near their
thirty three yard line. They need the Maryland forty. It

(44:22):
is third and long.

Speaker 5 (44:24):
Well, and I said this earlier the snap, He's got
a lot of pop on that snap. That snap was
high and his high off of his left shoulder. A
good job of chasing it down. I am sitting here, Oh,
just jump on the ball, don't try and scoop it. Fortunately,
wiscons So was able to pick it up, but that
was a big blow.

Speaker 1 (44:43):
On second down, third down in twenty six, Dylan Jones
in motion to the ride O'Neil to throw, checks it
down over the middle, cup by Kakahuna thirty five to
the forty, cutting left across the forty five and Dylan
Fontis at defensive end. We'll catch up to Keckahuna and
take it to the turf forty seven yard line of
Wisconsin and at fourth and thirteen, the Badgers are punting

(45:04):
again with thirty eight seconds left in the first quarter.

Speaker 5 (45:07):
Well, it's this has kind of been what we've seen
way too much of it. You get a little something going,
you got you know, the alignment all to the right,
an ice run get, you get some jet sweep, you
get a little end around, you start feeling something, and
then you make a critical mistake in as Chili used
to always tell us, not a lot of plays in
the playbook. Third twenty five.

Speaker 1 (45:26):
Turns into fourth and thirteen. The stamp to Attica's bat
turns out is blocked by Delom Mesiah Delom blocks the
punt that goes out of bounds inside the thirty of Wisconsin,
and there is nothing going right here for the Badgers
in the first fifteen minutes. First in ten Maryland at
the Wisconsin twenty eight yard line with eleven seconds left

(45:50):
in the opening quarter, and Messiah Dellon came in Scott
Free to block that punt.

Speaker 5 (45:57):
Yeah, there are two guys. I think two cats had
an opportunity to block that that you're talking about special
teams miscues now, a blocked field goal and a blocked punt.
You could not look at this from Maryland standpoint. It
couldn't be starting better, though. These are mistakes that will
get your butt beat every week. If you continue to

(46:18):
do it from.

Speaker 1 (46:19):
The Wisconsin twenty eight first and ten nol and Ray
in there at running back J. Samuels into the backfield,
now working as a full back outside wide to the right.
Octavian sments to the left, snap to Washington. A playfake
looking checks it down, caught by the full back inside
the thirty to the twenty six yard nine. DJ Samuels

(46:42):
in there and he has stopped at the twenty seven
of Wisconsin, a gain of just one and the first
quarter has come to an end. Thank goodness, no kidding.

I was scored twenty one or seventeen fourth quarter points
rather and wins thirty eight twenty eight. Other Big ten

(50:01):

you can't Not only are you not gonna beat Alabama,
you know will be the.

Speaker 5 (50:07):
Name, but you have to understand kind of where you're
at as a football team, and you know you're we're
talking about keys to the game. The defense needs to
lead this team right now, and unfortunately the offense and
special teams is not even allowing that to happen. So
the defense is hanging in there. They've been putting some
really tough spots and unfortunately this is another tough one.

Speaker 1 (50:27):
After that block punt, it'll be a second and nine
Maryland at the Wisconsin twenty eight yard line. Terrifin is
going left to right, north to south at Camp Randall Stadium,
pistol formation, Nolan Ray the running back, and a play fake.
Washington fires to the right and that's caught by Octavian
Smith inside the twenty yard line of Wisconsin, brought down
by Ricardo o'halman. Bill Mark at the seventeen of the Badgers,

(50:48):
and that'll be a first down for Maryland.

Speaker 5 (50:50):
I actually think Malik Washington loves those throws more than
the easy like screen passes and things like that. That
was far hash far sideline and he drilled.

Speaker 14 (51:01):
It to your.

Speaker 1 (51:03):
Yeah, Washington, certainly, no one questions the armstraight, no doubt
about that. Double tight in alignment, single back offense. Pulling
back from center, Washington hands to Ray off the left edge,
got outside of Aaron Witz. He'll be pushed out of
bounds by the cornerback Ricardo Hallman inside the ten. They'll
mark of the nine yard line and he's second down
coming up for Maryland.

Speaker 5 (51:25):
Yeah, Aaron Witt has to keep contained there. I don't
know if he got held, but he was unable to
get out there, and Rico ended up shoving him out,
but way too much.

Speaker 1 (51:33):
On first down, second and four, Maryland at the Wisconsin nine.
Ray stays in there, Octavian Smith Shalak knots out to
the right, Octavian Smith to the left. Washington gets the
snap and the passes bat it away. Look like JVR
sugs got a hand up there and knock the pass away.
It'll be third down and four Maryland at the Wisconsin nine.

Speaker 5 (51:56):
Again, one of those intermediate routes there. I just he
pulled it down and all ends up getting batted up
in the air. Sugs does a nice job of getting
his hands up, batting it up into the air, and
at that point now you're just hoping, let's find a
way to get that in to somebody wearing cardinal. Unfortunately
it fell to the turf.

Speaker 1 (52:12):
Maryland zero for two in the first quarter. On third down,
it's third and four here at the Badger's nine yard
line for Ruke and Smith to the left, Chalik nots
to the right, Faruke in motion left to right. On
third and four snap, the Washington has some time throws
left side end zone cut touchdown Maryland. Chalik knots were there.

(52:33):
Fourth touchdown catch of this season where coverage was from
Holman as Maryland again capitalizes, this time on a block
to punt. Not a lot of ground to cover, they
get it done. It's thirteen to nothing.

Speaker 5 (52:47):
The terrapists and he brings out the justin Jefferson, what
is that the gritty he gritty's on It did a
little too small to Ricardo Hallman, and you expect Rico
is our best defensive back. You need him to shut
that play down. Unfortunately, not able to and now Wisconsin
falls behind by two touchdowns.

Speaker 1 (53:05):
Knots with touchdown catches in each of the first four
games this season. Sean O'Hair with the extra point and
it is good. So a monster test facing the Badgers
now on the home field, they find themselves down fourteen
early in the second quarter. Binards is a proud sponsor
Wisconsin Athletics reminds everyone to save big money on all

(53:28):
your home improvement needs at Minards. We will hold it here.
I believe thirteen forty seven left in the second quarter,
Maryland at fourteen, Wisconsin nothing.

Speaker 5 (53:40):
And this is where you lean on your veteran players.
I know, you know, just talking to folks all throughout
the week. You know, the youth on the offensive line
and some of the young players, your veteran players. This
is when you have leadership councils and captains. And we
saw a little bit of that last week with Vinne
Anthony making a play when it was really down. This

(54:01):
is the time you need a guy to elevate and
make a play because this team needs a spark in
a big way.

Speaker 1 (54:07):
Philip Noy's, a red shirt freshman, handles a kickoff duties
for Maryland and the kick in the air, Vinnie Anthony
creeps up on it, catches at the five right side,
ten fifteen across the twenty, Anthony across the twenty five,
and he'll be rolled to the turf about the twenty
six yard line, and that's where the Badgers will begin.
Let's get an update on Billy Edwards as we check
in with Patrick.

Speaker 9 (54:27):
There's no new injury to Billy Edwards that he hasn't
even been hit in this game, but we haven't seen
him since that time he got flushed out of the pocket.

Speaker 1 (54:33):
And had to throw it away.

Speaker 9 (54:35):
You could tell that maybe just the mobility isn't where
they need it to be for him to play in
this game. He's spent a lot of time on the
exercise bike trying to stay loose. Now he's just pacing
the sidelines, trying to do what he can from a
leadership role to help Danny O'Neill and help his offense
get started.

Speaker 1 (54:50):
It was no secret he desperately wanted to play in
this game against his former team. Luke Fickele and his
radio show this week talking about, among other things, they
need Billy to be completely honest to how he felt
after the week of practices from the twenty six of Wisconsin.
First and ten. I had a toss fake right, O'Neill
shuffles left, looking looking still looks one pump, he'll throw

(55:11):
it away, and a penalty of marker flies as Trey
Reddick the linebacker with a laid head. Boy, that's a
big mistake for Maryland. Everything going its way, and it
appears as though the Churchs have just gift wrapped a
fifteen yard penalty. Come on, well, I'm on they're still

(55:38):
figuring it out. Yeah, about a minute and a half
gone by second quarter. Here's the call.

Speaker 10 (55:44):
Personal foul roughing the passer for three of the defense,
fifteen yard penalty with an automatic first down number fifty six.

Speaker 5 (55:53):
Helme it came off.

Speaker 10 (55:53):
Their play must go out for one down.

Speaker 1 (55:57):
Going back to the penalty. Trey Reddick ready good lineback
and Daniel Wingate. It's pretty good linebacking tandem. But a
mistake there in the fifty six with Joe Brunner. So
JP Benshaw a swing guard if you will. We've seen
him on the right side. Now he will work at
left guard or at least less play.

Speaker 5 (56:16):
Got a little replays, a little helmet to helmet maybe, yeah.

Speaker 1 (56:20):
Good catch. They didn't tell us about it, but that
would that would certainly be a good guess, is if
that's what they're looking at. Thirteen thirty four left in
the first half. It is fourteen to nothing Maryland the
penal league. Is the Badgers a first down at their
own forty one yard line?

Speaker 5 (56:40):
Yeah, and what a absolute gift because that a first
down play? Nothing there give Danny kredit. He found his
way and got rid of the football, didn't try to
force something and then took the hit. Just completely unnecessary
and able to get fifteen and hopefully maybe give a
little spark sometimes it take the sparks you can get him.

(57:01):
Maryland just handed him.

Speaker 1 (57:05):
Yeah, waiting to see it. Here's here comes the call.

Speaker 10 (57:08):
There is no penalty for targeting.

Speaker 1 (57:11):
I don't know what it could have been. Yeah, all
right with the helmet you.

Speaker 5 (57:15):
Got Danny a little bit too like a dumb think boy,
thank you, But what a dumb play.

Speaker 1 (57:22):
Yeah, like you got Danny on the side of the
helmet there. But yeah, first down for the Badgers in
their forty one yard line. Okay, Cohuna, Brooks and Anthony
will come out. Trips to the left. Harry On Dupree
remains in there, running back to the left of the QB.

(57:44):
Bad just go right to left, south to north. Here
in the second quarter, Ryan Corey sends it back to O'Neill,
option left, the toss to Dupree and he'll take it
up to the forty five yard line. Jalen Husky the
safety up to make the tackle on a gain of
four second down and six for the Badge.

Speaker 5 (58:00):
Good play design there and executed pretty well. Riley Malmo
was able to get out into space and make a block.
Tretch tried to hold on, couldn't quite cover his man
up and that could have been a much bigger play.
That's that again, is kind of one of the issues.
You're just one or two guys on an edge, not
able to square up. You take a what could have
been a ten yard run into the four Joe.

Speaker 1 (58:19):
Brunner back in. They were at left guard. By the way,
shotgun stamp O'Neil. On second down and sixth Danny throws
right side, hangs in the air. I had a say
complete Kekahuna went up for it, couldn't gather Husky over
there on the coverage and a penalty marker is down
at the line of scrimmage. So I got to go

(58:41):
ahead and sort this out.

Speaker 5 (58:43):
Feels like that flag looks like another roughing potentially, and
then the other one, unfortunately, I think might be a hole.
Good protection, pretty good coverage too if you forcing Danny
in the thrown a tight one.

Speaker 1 (58:57):
Here's the call. Maybe kind of deliberate here.

Speaker 10 (59:04):
Their fouls by both teams, and they will be enforced
personal foul hands to the face the fifty seven of
the defense after the play unnecessary roughness the offense. That
fifteen yard penalty will be also enforced. It will be
first and ten for Wisconsin.

Speaker 1 (59:21):
Bryce Jenkins, a defensive lineman, the guilty party. They did
an id the guilty badger, but afficiating crew is going
to be getting it steps in here marking off the penalties.
We have twelve to fifty six left in the first half,
fourteen to nothing.

Speaker 5 (59:39):
Maryland couldn't they had just left the ball where.

Speaker 1 (59:41):
It was.

Speaker 13 (59:47):
Here.

Speaker 1 (59:47):
They do it, like I said, getting their steps in.

Speaker 5 (59:49):
Okay, it's got that little pedominant Dilons wants to make
sure get that extra forty or fifty steps all right, whatever, Oh.

Speaker 1 (59:58):
Boy, can't make a up first down and ten for
the Badgers of their own forty five yard line. Did
you get your steps in today?

Speaker 5 (01:00:12):
Not as many as I need? Yeah, not yet?

Speaker 1 (01:00:15):
Long day, ye, long long waiting. A lot of ball
game left. Here's on first down, O'Neil under siege, gets
away from one, gets away from two, but that's always
going to get away from as he gets hammered down
inside the forty yard line. Though Mark got the thirty nine,
that was Daniel Wingate getting there for a loss of six. Well,
I tell you Danny has taken some shots here in

(01:00:36):
the early portion of this season. Second down and sixteen
for Wisconsin.

Speaker 5 (01:00:41):
Actually, Dupree did a really good job. I thought he
was going to get drilled on the first one. He
was able to avoid it. And I don't know if
it ended up being good that he avoided it, because
he ended up taking a big shot at the end
of this felt like by the entire Maryland team.

Speaker 1 (01:00:54):
Ballard and Kekahuna out to the right, Anthony to the left.
On second down, reading keeping O'Neil throws over the middle
out by Anthony across midfield, breaks one tackle inside the
forty five, brought down by Reddick at the forty two
of Maryland. First down Wisconsin is the Badgers back of
the Terrapins territory.

Speaker 5 (01:01:11):
Really good rpo there. You can see the right side
Wisconsin's offensive line, hard zone fake to the right and
then a slant behind Vinnie Anthony. O'Neil does a good
job of pulling it and getting rid of it quick
enough so that there's not lineman downfield, and then Vinnie
anthony good job of picking up a couple extra yards.

Speaker 1 (01:01:28):
The end of nineteen to the forty two of Maryland
trips to the left on first down, O'Neill, well, give
it to Dupree, got away from Reddick and I had
bought them a hard yard wingate over there to grab him.
Second down and nine for Wisconsin. Eleven thirty left in
the half.

Speaker 5 (01:01:43):
Just way too much penetration right off of our center
in the backfield. You have to allow your running back
to get a couple of steps there. He had to
stop after his first step and kind of stop his feet,
and once that happens, the defense wins that rep and
unfortunately that's what occurred there.

Speaker 1 (01:02:00):
From that run, Chris Brooks Finny Anthony out double wide
to the right, heavy on the right as a little
toss from Kaid Jakamelly to O'Neill and not buying it.
As a Maryland defense, Dylan Fontas spills the quarterback at
the fifty at his third down in eighteen four Wisconsin
so again, this time a direct snap to Kaid Jakamelli

(01:02:21):
who tossed it to O'Neill, and that play had no chance.

Speaker 5 (01:02:25):
Yeah, never had any chance. And I'm not sure you know,
typically when you do that you want to kind of
fool people. That really didn't fool much. And pressure came
right off of the left side of Wisconsin's offensive line,
got right in O'Neill's face right away. That play again
had no chance.

Speaker 1 (01:02:40):
From the start, two receivers right Jaden Ballard to the
left back to pass O'Neill over the middle incomplete and
the intended receiver I guess was Lance Mason. There was
nothing there, and on fourth down the Badgers are forced
to punt down fourteen to nothing with ten twenty six
left in the first half.

Speaker 5 (01:03:00):
I tried to run a tight end middle screen there
to Mason. It had it set up, but pressure got
there and actually really fortunate that ball fell to the
ground because it went further down the Field than I
think everybody wanted that just a you can't drop those
last three plays. That was just really poorly executed on all.

Speaker 1 (01:03:19):
Three minus scrimmage the fifty Atticus Bertram's on the punt,
no pressure, the kick is away drifting to his left
is Farouk lets it hit, It does not check up,
It'll go into the end zone for a touchback. So

This is Badger football from lear Field. Ten minutes seventeen
seconds left in the first half. It is fourteen to nothing.
Merrill and the Turk's beginning at their twenty yard line.

(01:06:00):
There was a time the defense needed a health the offense.
This is its out of the pistol. Ewan Williams is
the running back. Michael Garner in there on the defensive
front for Wisconsin, Dylan Jones and the interior snap the
Washington hands off, the Williams off the left side. Matt
Young is there. Aaron wit will help finish gain of
maybe a couple second down and eight for the Turps.

Speaker 5 (01:06:22):
Love that love seeing Matt Young coming downhill and filling
that hole, bringing it no really very minimal gain. Their
nice job by Young.

Speaker 1 (01:06:32):
Under ten minutes left in the half, second down and
eight for the Terrapins their own twenty two yard line.
Williams remains a running back lines up to the left
of the QB Malik Washington. Two receivers right, one on
the left. On second down, Washington looks to throw a
quick pass to the left, caught by Octavian Smith, and
he'll be rustled out of bounds by Amilio Aguard, the

(01:06:53):
red shirt freshman corner from Philadelphia at the twenty nine
yard line of the far side. So it's third, third
and one now for Maryland.

Speaker 5 (01:07:01):
But he is just so much more comfortable throwing to
the boundary than he is into the middle of the field,
and that you know, obviously the coaches know that as well.
There's only so much you can do. But that's where
we'd like to force Washington to throw the fus uker.

Speaker 1 (01:07:15):
Badgers could come up big here on third and one,
hand off Williams first down and more thirty five up
across the forty yard line, pulled down by Christian Allegro
at the forty one, a gain of twelve and a
first down for Maryland.

Speaker 5 (01:07:29):
That was way too easy there off of the left tackle.
There was really nobody from Wisconsin that had that gap
field and then Allegro was able to bounce out there,
but way too late for them to pick up a
first down.

Speaker 1 (01:07:40):
Eight fifty five left and a half fourteen to nothing
Maryland on first and ten, Washington handoff Williams wrapped up
by a Llegro short gain. They'll give him a yard
to the forty two yard line, second down and nine
for the Terra Pins.

Speaker 5 (01:07:54):
Yeah, really good recognition there by Christian is kind of
seeing what was going on. It was a little bit
of a cross dog with attack at Curtis where they
end up going around. Olagro is able to get into
the backfield make a play.

Speaker 1 (01:08:05):
Three receivers right, one on the left for the Maryland
forty two yard line. It's second down and nine. Washington
checks out. The Wisconsin defense gets the snap, throws left side.
It's dropped by Shalik Knots a guard over there defensively
in coverage. But again one right there in the midst
and not gathered. Third to nine Maryland that forty two

(01:08:28):
yard line.

Speaker 5 (01:08:29):
That one wasn't on Washington. He did not fire that
one in there. That was just a flat out drop,
but in middle of the field. But that's where you
want to continue to force him to throw.

Speaker 1 (01:08:37):
The foot tall Octavian Smith in motion left to right
three receivers that side of the formation. Washington be checking
off here. Plate clock is at ten. I'll talk about
how cool and calm Washington is even as a true freshman.
Lay clock at three. At two. Here's the snap Badgerson four.

(01:08:58):
Washington flush to is right looking looking throws. It's incomplete,
wanted not across midfield. The incomplete pass getting in there
and providing some heat was the true freshman linebacker Mason Posa.
It is fourth down and nine for the rap is
their own forty two.

Speaker 5 (01:09:16):
Yeah, really nicely designed play there. I think it was
Cheeks off of the end, forced Washington to flush out,
and then Wisconsin looped Posa out to kind of contain
and forcing him to the boundary and well.

Speaker 1 (01:09:30):
And contact up front as h Mason riger Mace contact
up front. We'll see if he was drawn that way.
I don't think he was either.

Speaker 10 (01:09:42):
I was for forty two the defense making contact for
the snap five yard penalty still fourth out.

Speaker 1 (01:09:48):
Yeah, beg your pardon. Tyler Chanzy was there not Mason Rieger.
So it's fourth and four.

Speaker 5 (01:09:55):
And that doesn't seem like a big thing. But now
you see instead of the punt return you now you
go back to safety. You bring back most of your
defense and maybe limits what you can do on a
punt return.

Speaker 1 (01:10:06):
First and on the punt line of scrimmage the forty
seven and Maryland Tyrell Henry deep at the Wisconsin ten
stamp to McPherson and the kick is away and the
fair catch signaled by Henry and he'll make it at
the ten yard line of Wisconsin. So again not great
field position. Well done on the punt forty three yards

Eight seven left of the first half, it is fourteen
to nothing Maryland at leading Wisconsin Madgins will be starting
at their ten yard line as play resumes. Danny O'Neil
and there at quarterrecks all a little bit of Billy Edwards,
just a handful of plays, but otherwise it has been
Danny's show, to say the least. This offense continues to

(01:12:58):
struggle mightily. Not Maryland's lighting it up offensively. It's been
a matter of taking advantage of short fields for the
Turfs ninety six yards of offense for the Badgers fifteen
on the ground, not quite one yard per rush.

Speaker 14 (01:13:13):
Now.

Speaker 1 (01:13:13):
Sack yardage in college has factored into that, and there's
been that the stat sheet was showing two, but it's
actually been three times in Wisconsin has been sacked. So
they'll come out trips to the left, Tyrrell, Henry Vinnie,
Anthony Jayden Ballard pistol formation, Dylan Jones the running back
and O'Neill we'll give it to him. Jones over the

(01:13:34):
left side and Wingate is there, wraps him up by
the hips and takes through the turf at about the
thirteen yard line on a gain of three. Second down
and seven for Wisconsin.

Speaker 5 (01:13:45):
Yeah, a little gap scheme there. You pulled right guard.
Bench All did a nice job kind of kicking around,
and then Lance Mason was able to get over there,
kick it up and picked up three or four yards
on first down.

Speaker 1 (01:13:58):
Second down in seven, Anthony in motion and a penalty
markers fly pre snap is a snap back to O'Neal,
caught him by surprise. Danny did well just to knock
it down, but the play is blown dead anyway, big snap.

Speaker 10 (01:14:15):
Number fifty of the offense, five yard penalty, still second down.

Speaker 1 (01:14:19):
So Meg, it's second and twelve for the Badgers their
own eight yard line. Seven thirty six left of the break,
fourteen to nothing.

Speaker 5 (01:14:25):
Maryland not making excuses. I think center is the toughest spot,
especially for a young player to play. You have a
lot of things going on in your head. You want
you want those older guys to kind of step up
and help with some of the calls. Take as much
off of Cory as you can.

Speaker 1 (01:14:42):
On second down play fake. O'Neil, looking scans at his
own end zone, rolls off to his right. He will
throw it up and away incomplete, and it's third and
twelve of the Badgers at their own eight. He was
certainly outside the pocket. That was what you heard of

(01:15:04):
the background, and the throwaway was beyond the line of scrimmage.
So no grounding. That's a danger zone in the Inenzell
by the way grounding call there is a safety and
Dylan Jones favoring his left leg being escorted to the
Wisconsin sideline.

Speaker 5 (01:15:23):
Yeah, looked like he went flying out trying to trying
to throw a block and help spring some things and
let O'Neil get outside of that pocket and hopefully he's
going to be all right.

Speaker 1 (01:15:34):
I means Darian Dupree is in there, and he comes
out of the huddle, lines up wide to the left,
Chris Brooks over there, three receivers to the right, and
now dupre will motion into the backfield. Third down and twelve,
the Badgers their own eight yard line and taking the
end around. O'Neil keeps it across the fifteen and he
is cut down by Jalen Husky at the eighteen yard line,

(01:15:56):
so they show again that little jet sweep action and
then O'Neill he keeps it. He stopped at the nineteen,
so that's a yard short of the line to gain
an Atticus. Bertrams, who's been way too busy in his
first half, is on to punt again.

Speaker 5 (01:16:09):
Yeah, third and twelve, third and fourteen. You just you
get a little something going. You have a false start,
you have a penalty, you have a sack, you have
a bad snap. And at this point our offenses has
to be perfect as it is. You can't continue to
ask to overcome these things.

Speaker 1 (01:16:25):
Snap to Bertrams, fresher light kick is away, Jalil Farouk
ripping to his left and he gets hit early. The
ball hits inside the thirty yard line. It's killed by
Jayden Ballard. But kick catch interference. Here is this Wisconsin
Badgers team cannot get out of its own way.

Speaker 5 (01:16:44):
So you can look at this, and there was a game,
what was it two games ago? Or is a clean game?
No penalties? I feel like everybody is pressing. You just
feel this. This is typically a disciplined football team. Everybody
so badly wants to make a play, and when you
do that, you get out of character. And we've seen
way too many penalties in this first half.

Speaker 1 (01:17:05):
Jaden Ballard got there early and was definitely not blocked
into him or anything like that. They're officials talking about
it while they discuss we'll take a well, actually we're
going to hold it here. With six twenty four left
in the first half, it's fourteen to nothing, Maryland leading Wisconsin.

(01:17:25):
I was just going to ask you that, Taosha. He's
just you know, different coaches will say that, I don't
believe in pressing. It really semantics, you're not concentrating, But
you got it. You got a team right now that's
desperately trying to make a play. And that's what you're
talking about here with the pressing, if you want to
use that term or not, just mistakes that are from

(01:17:47):
a team that is just desperately trying to make something happen. Oh,
they got a pedaly here against Maryland where he got
the ball and they have absolutely no idea. Somebody to us, yeah,
we couldn't. The ref mic wasn't working because what else

(01:18:07):
what is working here today? The answer to that is nothing. Well,
through it all, the Badgers will start at the Maryland thirty.

Speaker 5 (01:18:19):
You know who else wants an explanation?

Speaker 1 (01:18:21):
Yeah, Mike Loxley. Yeah, let's go.

Speaker 5 (01:18:24):
This is what we needed.

Speaker 1 (01:18:28):
We're touching. They're claiming the ball went off of for Ruke,
but Davis Ballard got there early, and they're gonna review this.

Speaker 28 (01:18:39):
And this is.

Speaker 1 (01:18:41):
They were saying that the ball went off of the
putt return man Jalil for Ruke, but Jane Ballard got
there and made contact early on for Ruke.

Speaker 5 (01:18:52):
That would be like if you jumped off sides and
you sacked, you stripped the crumbball.

Speaker 1 (01:18:57):
Yeah, well I know I.

Speaker 5 (01:18:59):
Sacked a bit. It was illegal contact. I would love
for us to say this is going to be our ball.
Hopefully it is.

Speaker 1 (01:19:05):
I'm not even convinced touched it.

Speaker 5 (01:19:10):
Normally.

Speaker 1 (01:19:10):
I laugh.

Speaker 5 (01:19:11):
I love seeing the opposing coach getting all fired up.
He's got every he can't believe what the heck is
going on.

Speaker 1 (01:19:17):
I'm trying to make it a point. And I'd be
like fanboy announcer about officials. But we saw them marked
off penalties that they didn't have to go through all
of that, and now we're seeing this, so this this

(01:19:40):
seems like a no brainer.

Speaker 26 (01:19:42):
Here.

Speaker 5 (01:19:43):
Maybe they're saying Ricardo Cooper blocked Ballad into it. I
don't see it that way. Yeah, I hope they do.
I mean I will be a homer. I'll say, I
hope that did happen. But that's not how I saw it.
I thought it was kind of a careless penalty.

Speaker 10 (01:19:56):
Here, reviewing to play the ball was not touched by
the receiving team, the ball was illegally touched by the
kicking team. There will be first and ten for Maryland
at the thirty yard line, so no penalty.

Speaker 5 (01:20:10):
So they're not calling out Ballard, which they're claiming.

Speaker 1 (01:20:13):
They're claiming that Ballard was blocked into him, which he wasn't.
But okay, well that's says Wisconsins some yards here. The
Turps will start at their thirty yard line with six
twenty four left of the first half. Fourteen enoughing, Maryland
leading Wisconsin. As you said, it seemed pretty clear the
ball did not touch the return man, so they reviewed
that part of it.

Speaker 5 (01:20:35):
So after all of that, that's one of those whatever
it's moving, None of that made any sense.

Speaker 1 (01:20:41):
Double wide to the right, first and ten, Maryland from
its own thirty yard line. Washington back to throw looking
fires to the right Smith a diving catch near midfield
first down Maryland as Octavian Smith lays out and grabs
it at the forty nine yard line on the gain
of nineteen.

Speaker 5 (01:20:57):
Yeh, beautiful throw, just a wheel route beat Riccardo Holman
pretty easily and again Washington credit that thing was a
laser and right in stride to Smith and they.

Speaker 1 (01:21:10):
Get back on the ball. Two receivers left. Caleb Web
a receiver out to the rights on first in ten.
Washington to throw four man rush getting away from Cheeks
and drops it off. He goes behind Nolan Ray and
you completed the forty three yard line of Wisconsin. Christian
Allegro there in coverage second and ten Maryland for its
own forty nine yard line with five forty eight left

(01:21:30):
in the half.

Speaker 5 (01:21:30):
Yees Sebastian Cheeks did a great job coming off of
a left tack a little bolt stab and then was
able to get a soft edge. Put a lot of
pressure on Washington again forced him to throw the ball
back across his body into the middle of the field.
We're going to get some opportunities for interceptions if we
could continue to force that throw.

Speaker 1 (01:21:49):
Two receivers left, one on the rights we're still formation
an Helton and there a tied end for mary Layers
a hand off to Ray off the right edge across
the midfield and running him down is the linebacker attack
at Curtis near the forty five of Wisconsin. So I
call Mark at the forty six. So that'll make a
third and five. The terrapinds with five and a half

(01:22:11):
minutes left in the second quarter. It is fourteen to
nothing Maryland.

Speaker 5 (01:22:14):
They're getting a lot of push on these outside ze
to to that. Mason Riger did a good job of
containing and bringing it back in. There was no fill
by Wisconsin's mind backers to make that play.

Speaker 1 (01:22:24):
Earlier trips to the left, Ray the running back in
the Wisconsin forty six yard line. Maryland two out of
five on third down so far today, five nine left
in the first half. Snapped to Washington looking throws left
seam and the catches made Caleb Webb in front of Hall.

(01:22:44):
Then inside the thirty down here the twenty seven of Wisconsin.
A third down conversion again for Maryland, first intend of
the Badgers twenty seven.

Speaker 5 (01:22:53):
Really athletic catch. That was a high throw and again
you said it in front of Rico. We've seen that
more often this year than we've seen past.

Speaker 1 (01:23:00):
We have a big target six' Five Richard. Junior The
Nolan ray running back motions out wide to the, left empty,
backfield shotgun Snap, Washington he'll throw down the middle of
his incomplete want of his tight, End Leon. Howson we
were going for the end. Zone jack At curtis in

(01:23:21):
coverage second and, Ten maryland at The badger twenty, seven
four point thirty left in the first, half fourteen to.
Nothing maryland and The turfs are threatening for. More web
will come out wide to the, Left Octavian smith to the.
Rights pistol, formation couple of tight ends lining up on

(01:23:49):
the right side For. Maryland play clock is at. Five
washington gets the, Snap he'll give it To Nolan ray
and right there to greet him As Darryl peterson behind
the line of, scrimmage a senior out Of, Dokron, ohio
with a big, play a tackle for loss Though mark
at the thirty one of The, badgers a loss of.
Four it's third and.

Speaker 5 (01:24:08):
Fourteen Darryl peterson has done that is at least the
third time That i've seen him in the, backfield either
getting after the quarterbacker in that, case Got ray to
the ground in a big needed a stop here now
setting up a long third DOWN. Dp he is definitely
bringing energy.

Speaker 1 (01:24:25):
Today Rachaelis clayton and it outside Linebacker Mason polsa one
of the inside backers in The wisconsin thirty one yard.
Line third down in fourteen for The Maryland. Terrapins two receivers,
right one on the. Left washington calls for the, ball
gets the, snap four man rush right side pass almost picked. Off,
well that was a. Rope Riccard ohlman got his hands on,

(01:24:45):
it couldn't pull it in its fourth down and. Fourteen
maryland will send On sean O'Hair on the field goal.

Speaker 5 (01:24:52):
Team, yeah that was just a slant. In rico is
playing behind him in a trail. Technique they had a
little linebacker sink down and just a really air and
throw In. Rico if he could have corralled that would
have been able to take it to the.

Speaker 1 (01:25:06):
House forty nine yard field goal. Try, well the red
shirt freshman O, hair who's eight of nine this, season
just a little bit left of. Center here's the snat placement.
Made kick is in the air and it is. Good
sean O'Hare pops it through And maryland now leads by.
Seventeen we'll take a break with three point thirty eight

(01:25:30):
left of the first. Half maryland's Seventeen wisconsin nothing back
in one. Minute this Is Badger football from Lear, Field.

Speaker 34 (01:25:38):

learn more and to, apply go To risk Dot. Jobs
That's wisc dot jobs shot O'Hare with a forty nine
yard field, goal three point thirty eight left of the first.

(01:26:47):
Half maryland, Seventeen wisconsin nothing the church of one hundred
and forty two yards of offense one hundred and ten For.
Wisconsin it's been about the short field covered four yards
after an, Interception Eleak washington running it in from a
yard out of blocked, punts And maryland only has to

(01:27:09):
cover twenty eight yards to get A Elaque washington To
Shlik notts, touchdown and then they cover all the thirty nine,
yards leaving the shot o' here forty nine yard field.
Goal so it's not like they've had to do a,
ton but The badgers offensively can't get out of their own,
way and special teams much the.

Speaker 5 (01:27:26):
SAME i like, This, hey we need a little positive
mojo in this. Place women's hockey national. Champs get them out.
Here let's get a little something brewing. Here we need
some positive mojo a out here.

Speaker 1 (01:27:40):
With one of THE i think we'll be down in.
History those rings are. Big, yes one of the most
famous LINES i think we'll ever hear now moving, Forward
Mark johnson the championship, game who wants. It who wants?
It the penalty. Shot we've forced overtime Against Ohio state
and The badgers went on so win The national championship in.

Speaker 5 (01:28:04):
Overtime who wants it? Here because right now this football
team needs someone to provide some type of spark that
that really good play BY dp making that play in

(01:28:26):
the backfield and forcing a long field. Goal and that's
where you're kind of, hoping can we get a? Block can?
We maryland has made the plays we have, not and
that's why the score is seventeen to nothing with three
thirty eight to go in this first.

Speaker 1 (01:28:39):
Half we'll a noise to kick off in the Air
Benning Anthony camps under, it you'll catch. It the goal
one here he comes to the five to the, ten,
Fifteen anthony the, twenty And anthony up to the twenty
five yard. Line Carlton smith getting down there and kick
coverage for The. Terrapins let's see what The badgers can

(01:29:01):
come up with, Now danny, O'Neill there's three of seven
thirty six. Yards Billy edwards in his brief, time was
one of three for forty. Five it was in the
games opening.

Speaker 5 (01:29:13):
Possession we've seen some good things from O'Neill when it's designed,
runs you. Know unfortunately he's taken sacks and his rush
yards aren't Looking this is where you need big chunk.
Plays we've seen too many. Mistakes need a big play
here to get this thing.

Speaker 1 (01:29:28):
Going derry And druprie the running. Back O'Neil will give
it to. Him dupre off the right side across a
twenty five yard line and he gets chopped Down Isaiah
mathis at the twenty eight or twenty nine yard, line
game of three or four in the play second down
for The. Badgers they had all three timeouts three eighteen
left in the first. Half Oh mark just shy the
twenty nine take it down in six plus.

Speaker 5 (01:29:50):
Change, yeah good push there by right Tackle mandel a
nice job of just staying square on your, guy giving
your running back kind of a two way. Go dupre
did a good job of pressing. That picking up.

Speaker 1 (01:30:00):
Three he lines up Behind danny. O'Neill two receivers, Left
keckahuna And Brooks anthony out to the. Rights O'Neil gets the,
stamp he'll give it To dupree and he has brought,
down tripped up and looked Like mappis was there anyway
behind the line of scrimmage at the twenty seven yard,
line loss of two and it's third and eight for The.

Speaker 5 (01:30:18):
Badgers, yeah he ended up the old turf monster kind
of gobbled. UP i think his right ankle. There but
there was a little bit of leakage by the defensive
end off of our right tackle who was able to
get up the, field and that's why we lost a
couple of.

Speaker 1 (01:30:32):
Yards two and a half minutes left of the, break
seventeen to Nothing. Maryland anthony out to the, Right keckahunah slot,
left motions to the, Right Jayden ballard wide to the.
Left O'Neil gets the. Stamp maryland will send. Four danny
looking checks it, down caught By mason across the thirty

(01:30:53):
and he gets chopped down By wingate at the thirty
two yard, line three yards short of the. Stick we'll
get us to the two minute time. Out we'll keep it.
Here with two minutes left in the first, half it
is seventeen to. Nothing, maryland, man this is a massive
opportunity for The. Terps they'll have all three timeouts to,
use and Remember maryland will receive in the second, half

(01:31:16):
so chance to blow this wide, Open maryland leading at
the moment seventeen to.

Speaker 5 (01:31:21):
NOTHING i think this is a tough scenario that you're.
IN i think if you would have gotten this to
fourth and, ONE i don't think there's a question That
wisconsin goes for. It but it's fourth and three and
you're kind of teeter and you're already down three. Scores
the old gambler in, me you would say go for
it because we need a, spark you need, something you.

(01:31:42):
Said maryland gets the opening, Kick BUT i just think right,
NOW i think he's gonna end up punting. It you're
gonna want to see if maybe you can get a
big play from your defense in order to set something,
up because you don't get it. Here it's probably at
minimum twenty, nothing AND i think you're trying to kind
of figure that piece of it out As Luke fickle's
going through the different scenarios here on fourth and three

(01:32:04):
at the two minute, mark.

Speaker 1 (01:32:08):
Well they're at the two minute time. Out Anicus bertram's
assuming he goes ahead and punts. Here this would be
his third. Punts it feels like it really. Does i'm
not even sure that's.

Speaker 5 (01:32:23):
Right one of eight on third down and it's. Not
the frustrating part from up here is you haven't even
had really many good opportunities At everything has been third
and six. Plus defenses are. Pushing you're always saying you
want to get to third and. Six that's where you
have your. Arsenal you know that you think the team

(01:32:44):
is gonna end up throwing the. Football you have all your,
blitz you have all of your, things and it has
been third and ten plus much. MORE i don't know
the exact, number but one of eight ain't gonna cut
it on third.

Speaker 1 (01:32:54):
Down it's got an update On Dylan, Jones, patrick what
do you?

Speaker 9 (01:32:57):
Have wisconsin's rushing attack has this thirty one yard and
the last two series we have done it Without Dylan
jones out, there their lead, tailback if you. Will he
is questionable for the rest of this game with a
lower body. Injury he saw him go down and he
has not come back these last two. Series we'll try
to get an updated coming out of the second. Half
but as if you need anything else to complain, about

(01:33:17):
injuries is the thing that we want to make sure
we avoid.

Speaker 1 (01:33:19):
Here, boy they're. Kidding bertram's comes out fourth and three
from The wisconsin forty excuse, Me wisconsin thirty two yard.
Line Jalil farouk is deep full of The. Terrapies so

(01:33:40):
offensive struggles continue or have been special teams breakdowns, today
a blocked field, goal a blocked.

Speaker 5 (01:33:46):
PUNT i felt coming in the defense needed to be
a big difference. Maker the defense has played, fine they
haven't made big. Plays we saw an opportunity there For
rico would have been a heck of an. Interception need
a big time play like.

Speaker 1 (01:34:03):
That waiting for the snap As bertrams gets it and
the kick is, away turns it over For rooke back
pedaling and he'll feel that he got popped right. Away
Jade ballard getting down there in a hurry For rooke
taking down to the fifteen yard. Line a fifty two
yard punt and good work From, bertram's good work From

(01:34:26):
Jaden ballard admitted fifty two left in the first half
and The terrapins started their fifteen yard line special.

Speaker 5 (01:34:33):
Teams that's been a tough half For wisconsin's special. Teams
that was a big time spot. There, ballard WHO i
guess didn't get called for an interference on the on
the prior punt that time timed it up perfectly beautiful,
punt and now you're setting it sitting in a spot.
Here if you can make a stop on first, down
you can start thinking about maybe trying to get that

(01:34:53):
ball back at some points here before the end of the.
Half his first plays always kind of dictated what an
offense they'll do if they get some or if they.

Speaker 1 (01:35:02):
Don't two receivers, right one on the left the Wine
williams in a running back In washington will hand it
To williams off the left, side hit behind the line of.
Scrimmage Mason, Rieger Parker, Peterson peterson leading the charge on
a loss of three to the twelve yard line and
a time out taken with a minute forty four left
of the first. Half and this is A wisconsin. TIMEOUT

(01:35:25):
i believe it's second down and thirteen for The terrapins
at their own twelve yard.

Speaker 5 (01:35:30):
Line great job there By ryger And peterson a just
setting right in their spot and not giving an, inch
forcing it to bounce and getting it getting it WHERE
i just, said that first play really will dictate how
you're going to handle the rest of this two. Minute
and when you get a three yard, loss you use the,
timeout you position yourself to get that ball.

Speaker 1 (01:35:50):
Back this is a ten second.

Speaker 10 (01:35:53):
Subtraction, However maryland has declined clock will start on the,
snap second.

Speaker 1 (01:35:59):
Out second down for The. Terrapins SO i didn't see
a flag, there but all, right helmet came. Out the
hell they came? Out, okay gotcha didn't didn't hear the
first part of.

Speaker 35 (01:36:10):
That so here we.

Speaker 1 (01:36:11):
Go three receivers, right one on the left snap To
Malik washington and throws it over the. Middle ain could
plead a one. Hopper, Ooh Christian allegro almost got a?
Gift is that sailed away From Towan williams to your,
point better thrown to the boundaries and over the.

Speaker 5 (01:36:28):
Middle it's an. Adventure every time you could keep him
in the pocket and force him to throw it over
the middle of the, field something good can happen for this.
Defense and that was a case just a wide open.
Guy he just sailed to, throw and Unfortunately allegro had
a one hop it couldn't get it on the.

Speaker 1 (01:36:45):
Fly then at forty left of that third and Thirteen
maryland for The terrapins twelve yard, line empty. Backfield two receivers,
left three on the right were chance For wisconsin for
a man rush right side, Passed paruk will catch getting
a block From fleming across a, fifteen get across the
twenty and flying over there to make the play as
a legro stopping for roof wells short of the. Marker

(01:37:06):
they'll spot at the twenty two and a timeout taken
with a minute Thirty either a timeout or he was
driven out of, bounds one or the. Other the clock
has stopped with a minute and a half left in
the first. Half it's fourth, down fourth down and, THREE
i should, say at the twenty two yard line Of,
maryland and a timeout is taken By wisconsin two remaining

(01:37:29):
one thirty left and the half fourth to Three maryland
at the terrapin is twenty.

Speaker 5 (01:37:33):
Two just a nice easy safe throat of the boundary
there And wisconsin rallied to the. Football and, hey when
you can get the opposing team in third and ten,
plus it's a heck of a lot easier getting off the.
Field this game is Not it's really simple from up.
Here it's a lot more complicated down. There but when
you can position yourself in that and now you get

(01:37:54):
an opportunity here for a big punt return and go
down and get points because that pendulum swing of momentum
has stayed On maryland side for far too long in
this first.

Speaker 1 (01:38:02):
Half any then go block one here. Too minus scrimmage
is the twenty two yard. Line McPherson on the punt snap.
Clean they get some, pressure but the kick is. Away
henry calls for the fair catch and he'll make it
at the thirty eight yard line Of wisconsin soon good
field position here after a forty yard punt one twenty
four left of the first, Half maryland's Seventeen wisconsin.

Speaker 5 (01:38:24):
Nothing and so now the question is how much do
you trust your quarterback and what route do you want
to go? Here you have to be aggressive in my.
Opinion it's a minute twenty. Four you need to find
something here and if it's an, end a round or.
Something just like we said down, here that first play
usually is what dictates whether or not a two minute
drive is going to be.

Speaker 1 (01:38:45):
Successful three receivers on the, right one on the Left
arion Dupri in the backfield A Lance. Mason the tight
end starts to motion near the. Formation first, down O'Neil
drops to throw four man Rushed danny under, Pressure he'll
tuck it and. Run he'll. Slide oh, am across the
forty yard. Line he got. Drilled penalty markers fly may

(01:39:06):
have to check for a. Targeting luke fickle well onto the.
Field my, goodness that was. Violent O'Neil gets. Up i'll
tell you what that kid.

Speaker 36 (01:39:17):
Is.

Speaker 5 (01:39:17):
Tough is. Tough there is no doubt about.

Speaker 1 (01:39:21):
That clock stops with a minute seventeen left in the
first half Because danny went into his. Slide that was
kind to pick up the. Number it was A Daniel
wingate getting in. There no targeting. HERE i think it's

(01:39:42):
just a just a late, hit.

Speaker 10 (01:39:43):
Personal, foul late hit on the quarterback number three of the.
Defense fifty penalty automatic first. Down the clock will start
on the snap.

Speaker 5 (01:39:53):
And a replay actually show they did lead with the
shoulder he brought. It, yeah that's a tough spot for
a defender Because danny slid started it maybe a little.
Late we'll take the. Fifteen did a nice job of
avoiding head to head ball at.

Speaker 1 (01:40:05):
The forty four Of. Maryland three receivers, right one on
the left orneel to throw. FOUR a man Rushed danny
flush to his, right chase By Ian, thomas O'Neil looking
Throwing mason incomplete second and ten at The maryland forty
four yard line with a minute ten left in the first,
half seventeen to Nothing, Maryland and this is.

Speaker 5 (01:40:22):
What happens with young. Quarterbacks you feel a little bit of.
Pressure the pocket there was actually pretty. GOOD i think
he maybe left the pocket a smidge earlier than he needed.
To and once you decide to roll out to the,
right you're cutting the field in. Half maryland's able to
kind of bring all their defenders over and it forces
you to kind of throw the ball either in a
spot you shouldn't or just get rid of it live

(01:40:43):
for another Down.

Speaker 1 (01:40:44):
Ballard anthony And kakahuna trips to the Right Han's mason
the tight end left side of the. Formation you three
the running back on second and, ten snap back to
A neil four man rush, Again danny throws caught right
Side kakahuna at the forty juke moved to his left
inside the thirty five no mark right at the thirty
five game of, nine third and one and a timeout
with fifty eight seconds left in the half and A

(01:41:10):
maryland defensive players down and shaken up.

Speaker 10 (01:41:16):
Time out for an injury to the player of the.
Defense wisconsin has elected to decline the ten seconds of
traction third, down.

Speaker 1 (01:41:24):
Trying to pick up the. Numbers, now your, tailor, yep
that's why the that's why the clock, stops not a
team timeout and injury. Timeout fifty eight seconds left to the,
break and there's the athletic trainers out there For maryland

(01:41:45):
those times your. Players, Now i'm flat on his back right, now.

Speaker 37 (01:41:51):
Ny.

Speaker 1 (01:41:51):
Is As tash, mentioned that's Her taylor of freshman In,
Southland maryland.

Speaker 5 (01:41:58):
Helmet to the you just in there, hard you, know
trying to gang, tackle get in. THERE i think his
helmet ended up hitting the hip of his own. Guy
and you, know it looks like he's sitting, up looks
like he's gonna be all.

Speaker 1 (01:42:08):
Right Mentioned maryland certainly not shy about playing fresh lit
a lot of, them good look at. One taylor's one of.
Them part of that emphasis on recruiting within THE dmv
That Mike loxley has has done with This maryland. Program

(01:42:30):
tailor A maryland native and make it his way over
to the.

Speaker 5 (01:42:34):
Sideline, well you get the fifteen yard penalty on the
late hit To, danny and then he stays in the
pocket there and delivers it to tretch a nice job
of getting north and, south not quite enough to get
a first, down but a third and. Short the injury
saves you a time, out so now you really have
everything at your disposal here with fifty eight seconds.

Speaker 1 (01:42:53):
Left third and, one Got cahudas slot to the left
to pre the running back O'Neil hands to do free
and behind the line of. Scrimmage he gets wrapped up
by Cam rice at the thirty seven yard, line making
fourth and three for The badgers with forty eight seconds
in counting now left in the first.

Speaker 5 (01:43:11):
Half that's really the only thing you couldn't have happened. There,
it's you, know third and, one you're thinking you're gonna
pick up a first. Down now you put a really
tough decision In Luke fickles's hands at a fourth and,
three and they're gonna run the clock down.

Speaker 1 (01:43:24):
The thirty three seconds left of the half slot, left slot,
right and now The badgers use the timeout with thirty
two seconds, left and half lot happened. There Chris brooks
was starting to line up off sides by about two,
yards so he was scooting back to his side of
the neutral, zone and things got. Discombobulated so he, said,

(01:43:45):
well let's let's burn. This that's their second charge time,
out it's fourth and.

Speaker 5 (01:43:52):
Three IT'S i think the frustrating. Part you're hearing fans
voicing their. Displeasure third and. One that's what we're built, for,
yets and we're not right. Now that's the unfortunate, part
because you're sitting. Here you pick up that first, down, change,
reset and now you're off and instead you get a
two yard, loss and you really make a tough decision

(01:44:14):
for your. Coach you want to run the clock and
take away that. Time you still want to continue to,
move but you don't want to Give marylyn the ball
back with. Anytime you just can't have that.

Speaker 1 (01:44:23):
Happen trips to the right on fourth to, THREE O
neil takes rolls right looking, look he trying to pick
his way through, traffic and he has stopped inside the thirty.
Five he'll be about a half yard short with twenty
five seconds left of the first. Half So, maryland we'll
get the ball on downs leading seventeen to nothing here In. Madison,

(01:44:46):
yeah you've rolled out.

Speaker 5 (01:44:47):
Right you're hoping for the, easy little flat. Route maryland
obviously sees that. Studied it didn't give, anything And danny
did a good enough job of pulling. It unable to
wiggle his way to pick up, enough he fell probably
about a half a yard. Short in another turnover run Downs.

Speaker 1 (01:45:05):
Jalen husky over there to make the play how to
do it from his safety. Position with twenty five seconds
left in the first, half The terrapins will take over
just shy of their thirty five yard. LINE i don't
see What Mike loxley allows his offensive Coordinator Pep hamilton
to do normally at this. Position you just run it

(01:45:27):
Out under center Is washington and he fakes the handle
a little playfake back to, throw is going to take
a shot deep down the left. Side it is caught
inside the fifteen yard. Line Oatavian smith bounces to the
turf inside the Fifteen they mark at the thirteen where

(01:45:48):
eighteen seconds left in the first.

Speaker 3 (01:45:50):
Half in that.

Speaker 1 (01:45:51):
Deep ball That washington has and Now Octavian smith is
down and he needs a little. Attention, well so much
for running it. OUT i guess why wouldn't. You you're
feeling pretty good about, yourself and you turn it loose
a forty eight yard connection and just like, That maryland's

(01:46:12):
back into scoring. Range they'll market at the seventeen Of.
Wisconsin a time out taking by The.

Speaker 5 (01:46:21):
Turks, yeah a big time throw, there but completely unacceptable
on the defensive side of the ball, there you have
to keep somebody. Deep he was able to split the
coverage and had all kinds of. Room it was a
whale of a. Catch he ended up having to fully
extend and he must have don't even really see a
replay of the, ball but he was able to get
his hands under it and make a great. Dive he,

(01:46:41):
catch maybe dinged himself up a little, bit but way
too much room in the middle of the. Field and
an absolute strike By Malik washington on the.

Speaker 1 (01:46:49):
Throw eighteen seconds left in the, half two timeouts available
For Mike, loxley seventeen to, Nothing maryland first and. Two
maryland at The wisconsin seventeen yard.

Speaker 5 (01:47:02):
Line And smith has been killing. Us that's his fifth
catch for one hundred and seventeen yards on the. Afternoon
it's obviously a Target washington feels great about and they
have had a ton of success.

Speaker 1 (01:47:13):
Today trips to the. Rights Nolan ray is the running.
Back washington gets the snap looking as time throws right
side end zone For nazi in, complete tightly covered By
Ricardo hallman at the right corner of the end zone
thirteen seconds left in the. Half second and Ten maryland
at The badger seventeen yard.

Speaker 5 (01:47:31):
Line very, smart safe play and again out to the.
Boundary he loves showing off that. Arm you're talking Far
hash to back. Pylon he makes that. Throw it's one on.
One it's only going to be his guy that'll be
able to come down with. It rico did a good
job there staying with, him contacting it and letting the
ball hit the.

Speaker 1 (01:47:48):
Turf smith For rooke and knots out to the rights
And Octavian smith will jog in motion to the. Left
on second and, Ten washington back to. Throw pressure coming
Wash it throws over the middle cup by not to
the fifteenth to the ten yard. Line Riccardo hallman went
the tackle at the eight seven seconds left in the.

(01:48:09):
HALF a timeout taken here By. Maryland it'll be a
third and one at The wisconsin eight with seven seconds
left in the first.

Speaker 5 (01:48:21):
Half great job By rico getting him to the. GROUND
i don't know if he would have, scored but he
had another five or six yards to Get If rico
doesn't one arm tackle him down to the. Ground nice
little under. Route threw it right in stride again And
rico did a great job of getting him down or
that would have been very close to him getting into

(01:48:41):
the end.

Speaker 1 (01:48:42):
ZONE i Think rico's feeling it a little bit to.

Speaker 5 (01:48:45):
See, yeah it looked like that arm.

Speaker 1 (01:48:47):
Yep Yep so third and one at the eight one
timeout still left For. Maryland Jalil Faruk Octavian smith out

(01:49:07):
to the, Left shalik knots to the. Rights ray is
the running back and Now faruke in motion to the.
Rights a third, Down washington looking throws left, side broken
up incomplete good work By Austin brown pass intended for
the tight End Dorian fleming with two seconds left in the.
Half so they burned five seconds on that. Play it's

(01:49:29):
fourth down and one and they'll go ahead and kick
on the final play of the first. Half this will
be a twenty six yard try just inside the left
hash mark All Maryland terrapin's in the first half of.

At the Half American Family Insurance Halftime. Report I'm Mike.
Heller it is twenty to Nothing maryland at the end
of thirty minutes of. Play the statistics won't tell you
the full. Story it's two hundred and six yards of
offense From maryland one to twenty nine For. Wisconsin but
the problem is When wisconsin started this game in the first,
quarter they had a good drive.

Speaker 6 (01:53:30):
That ended in having a field goal attempt.

Speaker 27 (01:53:32):
Blocked then they had an interception that was returned to
the four yard line and led to a. Touchdown then
they had a bad snap that lost twenty three yards
on a direct snap wildcat, formation and they finished that
possession with a block.

Speaker 6 (01:53:47):

Speaker 27 (01:53:50):

What the heck we talk.

Speaker 27 (02:01:30):
About, Well, billy let me let me just go. Through
you AND i were doing this off the. Air first.
Quarter you have a decent drive and end up having
a field goal. Block then you threw an interception that
was returned to the four yard line on a ball
that just needs to be thrown. Away you had a
bad snap on a wildcat formation that lost twenty three,
yards and the play two plays after, that you had
a punt. Blocked it tells you everything you need to

(02:01:52):
know about what this first half has. Been Billy edwards
started play very limited And wisconsin has not had any.

Speaker 46 (02:02:00):
Opportunity, no And, MIKE i think that the most disappointing
thing is the reaction to. Negativity and a year ago
and throughout the offseason we talked about how do you
respond to a gut. Punch this team took five of
them to close the year in twenty twenty four and
seemingly responded worse each time it went.

Speaker 5 (02:02:19):
Down The Penn state, game you're in that game and then.

Speaker 46 (02:02:22):
Respond with a lack lesser performance With Iowa. Nebraska you
don't want to rehash all of, that but all of
the plays you mentioned, there the following, Snap maryland gained
five yards on. Offense, right they moved the line of.
Scrimmage their defensive line has pushed. Back, yes a young
and inexperienced, group but they've controlled the line of. Scrimmage
it's why they controlled the scoreboard right, now and why

(02:02:43):
their true freshman quarterback was going for a knockout punch
there in the corner of the end. Zone usually this
is the best part of my, day other than when
my two year old slaps me awake and, says get.

Speaker 5 (02:02:53):
Up But, mike it really is difficult to.

Speaker 46 (02:02:56):
Find positives when you've created a lot of your own.

Speaker 5 (02:02:59):
Negativity.

Speaker 27 (02:03:00):
Today BILLY i said last week after the game At
tuscaluca THAT i didn't think that was a defining. Moment
defining moments would come in the weeks to. COME i
didn't think it would be. Today but right, now through thirty,
minutes this is very much a defining moment for this,
program no.

Speaker 46 (02:03:14):
Doubt in this twenty minutes in the locker room after
a very contentious, Camp Randle stadium told The badgers how
they feel about themselves right now in the program as a,
whole very very important message that gets sent to the group.
Here because there's there's true freshmen playing on that, side
there'll be true freshmen playing on this side as, well

(02:03:36):
and everything is going to be up for. Grabs if
you're putting more performances like this on.

Speaker 27 (02:03:39):
Sape maryland's going to start the third quarter with the
footballs they deferred after winning the. Toss what's the, recipe
the script For wisconsin to flip this game on its.
Head they're down twenty.

Speaker 5 (02:03:51):
Nothing, well the first thing, Is, mike you need to
win the line of.

Speaker 46 (02:03:54):
Scrimmage AND i know it sounds really, simple it sounds
cliche and, obvious but when good things are happening for
a double digit, underdog it's because they're physically imposing their.

Speaker 6 (02:04:05):
Will that's something that.

Speaker 46 (02:04:06):
A maryland football team has not done in a long.
Time they've got a lot of issues there in their
program the last couple of, years but they were marking
this as a measuring stick and a potential defining. Moment
now you've got to answer the energy that they've, brought
because it's only going to be amplified coming out of
that locker.

Speaker 6 (02:04:23):
Room, well we've got about a minute.

Speaker 27 (02:04:25):
Left and the other issue in the first, half obviously
with special, teams and you want to talk about game
prep and people will, wonder how is this team not
ready to play special? Teams is many times at telltale
sign of what you're not ready to.

Speaker 28 (02:04:39):
Do.

Speaker 46 (02:04:40):
Yeah, surprisingly so there was a worse performance maybe by
The badger's special, teams that was the officiating crew.

Speaker 5 (02:04:46):
In the first.

Speaker 46 (02:04:46):
Half so that's the loan positive of. It might but,
yes you're right the strategizing of. It maryland has seen
a couple of things that they could take advantage of
and executed. Perfectly you need to rattle them and throw
them off of their, execution and the only way you
do that is by stacking successful. Plays it's a low

(02:05:07):
benchmark to be able to, climb but you need to
climb yourself back into this, game one way or.

Speaker 5 (02:05:10):
Another Bill schmid.

Speaker 1 (02:08:17):
Lapey twenty to, Nothing maryland Leading. Wisconsin we check out
some of the first half. Stats The terrapins with two
hundred and six yards of offense one hundred and twenty
nine for The. Badgers neither team running it. Well either
team had been running it well coming into the. Game
maryland thirty nine rush yards of thirty four For Wisconsin.
League washington is twelve of twenty five through the ear

(02:08:39):
one hundred and sixty seven yards and a, score and
his top target has Been Octavian smith five catches for
one hundred and twelve, Yards danny O'Neil five out of
ten for fifty yards and an. Interception Billy edwards started
was out there for a bit one of three four
forty five. Yards here in the first half this has

(02:09:01):
been about, turnovers and O'Neill interception set up a score
As maryland had to cover all of four. YARDS a
blocked punt resulted in another short drive for The terrapins
just twenty eight yards that made it fourteen to. Nothing
and then a couple Of shan O'Hair field goals one
of forty nine and one at the final snap of

(02:09:22):
the half of twenty six yards and you have a
twenty to nothing, Ballgame maryland Leading. Wisconsin for the, defense
as you Said taos for The badges has been it
has been pretty solid and, decent but you're give them short,
fields these mistakes and would be not just the, offense
but the special team's. Breakdowns there's a blocked field goal
In wisconsin's first. Possession they just can't get out of

(02:09:44):
their own.

Speaker 5 (02:09:45):
Way and for this, TEAM i think you always when
you get go through your non, conference you start figuring.
Out you kind of figure out what kind of team
you're going to be, in what your formula to win will.
Be and you saw the first two weeks the defense,
defense and THEN TfL is that whole conversation all offseason
about TFLs and sacks right now sacks, zero TFLs. Zero

(02:10:10):
so you as a defensive, unit you see your offense is.
Struggling you hear about complimentary. Football your special teams has
not been very. Complimentary your offense has. It that's where your,
defense especially when you're coming out of the second half down,
twenty you need to step up and make a big.
Play you need to get in that backfield and make that.

Speaker 1 (02:10:29):
Happen let's check in With, patrick what do you?

Speaker 9 (02:10:30):
Have, well you kind of mentioned, It, Tasha but that's
the sentiment that happens in the locker room here is
that this is a sixty minute.

Speaker 1 (02:10:36):
Game it's not a thirty minute.

Speaker 9 (02:10:37):
Game so while you've dug yourself a big, hole there
is a second half to play in this and this
is a, chance as the guys kind of talked, about
to see what you are made. Of and that has
to be the attitude that they take as they enter
this final thirty. Minutes from an injury, Standpoint Billy edwards
is officially ruled.

Speaker 1 (02:10:53):
Out not really a.

Speaker 9 (02:10:54):
Surprise, there but he will not return officially in this.
Game say For Dylan jones is starting running. Back he
is also out for the remainder of this game with
a lower body. Injury Nathaniel vacos set to kick off For.
Wisconsin Iverson howard is.

Speaker 1 (02:11:10):
Deep for The Maryland. Terrapins as we get set to
go third quarter of. Play veco's with the kick. In
there will be no return a, touchback and the second
half is, underway.

Speaker 5 (02:11:22):
And now the question is From. Maryland stay a little,
scrap a little scrap a little bit, Here let's see
who is growing. Fists, yeah you need to give him.
Fifteen all, Right, jackson.

Speaker 1 (02:11:34):
We're going getting in there The Yannie hill as.

Speaker 5 (02:11:37):
Well you do look at it from their. Perspective now
do you keep that pedal? Down do you feel good
because you've seen what your defense has been able to.
DO i would guess this is one of those you
feel like you can daggorize this stadium and everything else
if you come out get. Something wisconsin desperately need to

(02:12:00):
make that big play and get something positive for this
team to kind of galvanize around.

Speaker 1 (02:12:06):
Weak washington is the. Quarterback he's Got Dewan williams behind,
him and now he'll shift to the left to the.
Quarterback two receivers, left one on the. Right maryland goes
left to, right third quarter Handoff williams off the right,
side Sebasted. Cheeks we'll catch up to them and take
him to the ground near the thirty yard. LINE a
game of better part well we'll call it four to
the twenty nine Of maryland's second down and.

Speaker 5 (02:12:27):
Six should a nice job of pressing the hole off
the right side and then cutting back And Sebastian cheeks came.
Down he hesitated for a second because he thought the
quarterback might keep it and let him pick up.

Speaker 1 (02:12:37):
Five two receivers, Left Octavian smith to the. Right the
Yanniy hill is on. Him here's a. Handoff williams trying
to work the right side and as well to get
to the. Thirty he'll be driven Back Austin. Brown the
play was. Pursued, well it'll be a third down and
five For maryland on the opening possession of the second.

Speaker 5 (02:12:55):
Half good job, There, allegro kind of holding up the
shop and attack. It curtis come and flying Around Austin.
Brown you saw guys held the point and force that
ball to bounce all the way out to the. Sideline
that gives you a chance to rally, everybody get him
down on the ground and set up a critical third.
Down get off the field.

Speaker 1 (02:13:13):
Here mason posa back in. There we have seen a
fair amount of him in the defense and the linebacking.
Corps two receivers, left two receivers. RIGHTS i Think washington
in the shotgun on third and five the terms thirty yard,
Line washington, probably and it's bat it down and getting
there Young Krilla Mason posa knocks the pass away and
it's fourth and five For, maryland and he needed.

Speaker 5 (02:13:35):
To he's coming around on a. Loop he's looping on a,
stunt and he sees he's not gonna get. There he
gets his hand up in the air and is able.
To that would have been a first, down a little
slant route across the. Middle he had the route. There
posa gets his hand, up knocks it down and forces
a critical punt here Get. Wisconsin the football Back.

Speaker 1 (02:13:54):
Tyrrel henry deep line of scrims Of maryland thirty and
the kick away from McPherson hangs it up. High henry
whites for. It he'll catch at the, eighteen gets it
to go across at twenty two twenty five. Thirty henry
cuts left thirty five to the. Forty henry forty five
to the field. Outside the numbers get slammed out of
the buns in The maryland territory and there's a spark
good field position for The badgers for their first possession

(02:14:17):
of the third, quarter and A maryland terrapid is down
and in a lot of pain back near the twenty
five yard. Line that was a fifty three yard. Punt
Tyrrell henry brought it back thirty seven. Yards we're a
minute twenty five into the third, quarter twenty to Nothing.
Maryland there's The Maryland athletic trainers and again can't pick

(02:14:41):
up the number and man down in the right, leg
light leg in a. Lot that's the area of. Discomfort so,

Speaker 5 (02:17:43):
A great job By Deanny hill of really maintaining his.
Block anytime you see a big return like, That guinea
a big block to spring. It hill did.

Speaker 1 (02:17:50):
That danny O'Neil the, Quarterback Garriyan duprie to his, rights
first and, ten shotgun. Stamp O'Neil, looks shoots it, right
caught By Chris brooks inside the four and dives near
the thirty five yard. Line first down on a gain of.
Twelve and there's The badgers trying to get something going
early in the second.

Speaker 5 (02:18:09):
Half AND i think you're always looking for some type of.
Spark you're looking to find. Something maybe go a little up,
tempo try to do something a little bit differently here.
There first, down nice easy pitch and catch easy first,
down get a little rhythm going bubble.

Speaker 1 (02:18:22):
Wide to the lefts With Vinnie anthony And Chris. Brooks
here's the hand. Off Darian dupree inside the, thirty lowers the,
pads hops his way to the twenty eight yard, line
gain of. Seven second down and three Four.

Speaker 5 (02:18:35):
Wisconsin really good vision there By dupree to see that
he's he's kind of cut. Off he was running to
the right. Side cut, off cut, back immediately got vertical
and picked up.

Speaker 1 (02:18:47):
Seven the safety levene scrugs on the. Stop Eugene hilton the.
Freshman he is out wide to the rights and you,
know creeps close through the formation along Where Lance. Mason
on second down On neil unders center and a little
toss To. Henry he's gonna throw it right side deep
and it hangs in the air and it's almost. Intercepted

(02:19:09):
intended For Eugene, hilton you, know thinking that came out
of his. Hand, funny it just hung up in the.
Air this is something they've been working on going back
to training, camp AND i can tell you it looked
a lot better than that in. Practice but it's a
incomplete pass and it's third down in three of the
twenty eight Of.

Speaker 5 (02:19:28):
Maryland they smelled that out pretty. Good d'lome their defensive,
back really a lot of contact On, hilton didn't really
let him get out of his, break and fortunate that
that ball fell to.

Speaker 1 (02:19:38):
The turf double wide to the. Left derry And duprie in.
Motion they faked the jet. Sweep O'Neil keeps it inside
the twenty. Five inside the twenty had a first down
of the nineteen yard line Of. Maryland Daniel wingates getting in.
There Desiah delome as. Well this trip to the red
zone brought To you by kseih is a kih dot

(02:19:58):
com Slash first and ten at the, nineteen.

Speaker 5 (02:20:02):
You see a lot of all that end around, motion
jet sweep. Action it gets guys eyes and that opens
up the middle of the football. Field and WHAT i
love about O'Neil what he, does he sees. It there's no.
Hesitation he puts his foot in the, ground gets, vertical
gets a, hit and then gets up and is trying
to get this crowd back into.

Speaker 1 (02:20:19):
It on first and, ten Last, mason the motion of the,
right O'Neil will hand it off to dupre over the
right guard. Inside we're near the fifteen yard. Line they'll
give him four on the, play second out and six For.
Wisconsin where three and a half minutes into the third,
quarter twenty to Nothing. Maryland but The badgers are threatening and.

Speaker 5 (02:20:38):
You're starting to see up front a little bit of.
Push we've seen way too much stuff in the backfield
getting put in some tough. Spots the guys up front
on this drive done a nice job of just kind
of walling guys off and Giving dupree some room to get.

Speaker 1 (02:20:53):
Started, yeah brooks wing on the left, Side anthony wide,
Left Kecko honda to the right O'Neill under his, Center Ryan.
Corey kakahuna motions left, O'Neil we'll give it To dupree
and he has swallowed up behind the line of. Scrimmage
dylan fontis first on the scene and gets some. Help
wingate is there And wisconsin looking at a third down

(02:21:13):
at the sixteen yard line Of. Maryland third down and.

Speaker 5 (02:21:17):
SEVEN i always get a little nervous WHEN i say
too many nice, things but that was the case. THERE
i think there was just a. Miscommunication it looked like
they Sent Chris brooks in motion to handle the end
of the line of, scrimmage AND i don't know if
he misread what his count was and the tight end
maybe took his, guy but nobody ended up blocking the
edge man and that allowed him to come down hit

(02:21:38):
dupre in the, backfield not let him get.

Speaker 1 (02:21:40):
Started Henry anthony And keckahuna out to the left on
third down shotguns stamp O'Neil pressure. Coming danny flushed to
his left looking throw in game complete a diving attempt
At kekahuna inside the ten yard line like Ky roland
on the. Coverage so it's fourth down and seven at
the sixteen Of maryland And Nathaniel, vacos who had a

(02:22:02):
field goal blocked in the first, quarter comes on early
in the. Third this will be a thirty three yard
attempt just right of, center and this would get The
badgers on the. Board lines are down and here's the stamp.

(02:22:24):

Patrick so in games like, this or at least first
halfs like, that you're looking for small, positives or at
LEAST i am down here on the. SIDELINES i do
like this team hasn't splintered at. All i'm not seeing
some of the hanging heads or some of the infighting
that you might expect when things are not going the
way you.

Speaker 5 (02:25:11):
Want that's a.

Speaker 9 (02:25:12):
Positive if you want to look at another, one maybe
this is a second half. Team in first halfs this,
year they've been outscored fifty one to. Seventeen in second
halfs they've outscared their opponents fifty nine to. Seventeen so
maybe that's the. Secret just be a second half.

Speaker 1 (02:25:26):
Team i'll score them twenty one to nothing in the
second half, Today we're onto, something right The Daniel, Vakos
it'll kick off Four. Wisconsin here's the run up and
the kick is away and again this will not be.
Returned wise over the head Of Iverson howard for the

(02:25:47):
touchback and first and Ten terrapins at their twenty five yard.

Speaker 5 (02:25:50):
LINE i, mean it sounds, Crazy, patrick and you were
just talking right, there but this is not Like maryland
has just dominated this football. Game ssconsin has gift wrapped
a lot of points and a lot of opportunities To
maryland because of the sloppy, play the, penalties whatever you
want to look. At so you could say all that

(02:26:11):
If wisconsin could tighten, up AND i do think their
defense is going to need to make a few big,
Plays it's not as crazy as maybe some people listening
right now, thinking.

Speaker 1 (02:26:21):
Mate Corey, walker part of that defense, now side backer
playing on the right edge of The wisconsin front the.
Lake washington under center pulls back a little play fake roles,
right throws right and it has. Dropped another, drop this
one for the tight End Leon. Houghton the twenty five
yard light out of ear, side second down and ten For.

Speaker 5 (02:26:40):
Maryland i'll tell you What i've said a lot About.
WASHINGTON i think he's a really talented. Guy there's a
lot of drops like that was straight. Up that was a,
good really nice touch on that. Throw and WHAT i
love seeing there there's no head. Down he goes back
to the. Hill he's, clapping encouraging his. Guys yet there's
a lot of things to like about what number seven

(02:27:00):
From maryland is doing.

Speaker 1 (02:27:01):
This they talk about his maturity. LEVEL i, mean just
so uncommon for a true. Freshman two receivers, left two receivers,
Right Caleb webb wide, right motions to the, formation shotgun
Staff washington looking, right throwing, right and that's through the
hands Of Nolan ray and complete Tacking curtis over there
defensively at the twenty eight yard line on their. Side

(02:27:23):
third and, Ten maryland from its own twenty five yard.

Speaker 5 (02:27:25):
Line, again kind of the same. Thing that's an easy
pitch and. Catching now you get in this spot third and,
ten we have not seen a lot of. PRESSURE i
haven't seen the. TFLs this is where your guys on the,
Edge Raiger, cheeks make a big, play get, something make
and throw it. Early get an opportunity here Turnover city coming.

Speaker 1 (02:27:45):
Two receivers to the. Rights Caleb web out wide to
the left on third and. Ten washington to throw four
man Rush washington under pressure From, riga who gets to the.
Quarterback town goes my Lakeue washington at the fifteen yard.
Line loss of, ten fourth and twenty for The Terra
pins and give.

Speaker 5 (02:28:05):
The secondary a lot of credit on. That that was
a good initial. RUSH i thought their old line kind
of held up for a. Second but great effort in
just continuing to pursue the. Quarterback ryger had a running
back on him the left. Tackle he did not give
up on the. Play he circled his route back and
was able to Get washington on the.

Speaker 1 (02:28:23):
Ground rice macfirst and on the punt they get some.
Pressure the kick is Away Tyrel henry drifting back and
he'll catch at the thirty eight yard line and he
got tagged right. Away it's like a little courage ethan
golf will launch snapper getting down. There forty seven yard.

Speaker 5 (02:28:40):
Punch that's one word for.

Speaker 1 (02:28:41):
It, yeah trying to be. Nice, yeah high. Risk that
actually wasn't the lost snapper. Guy that Was Ricardo cooper
down there in punt. Coverage badger was starting at their
thirty nine yard line first and ten nine to twenty
one left of the third.

Speaker 5 (02:28:58):
Quarter it's always amazing to me these punt returners when
there's full speed contact like. That not a great, decision
but a great job of holding onto that, football because
that was a big, time well timed up.

Speaker 1 (02:29:10):
HIT i was showing an overloaded tackle over and Now
Riley malman shifting back to left tackle pistol. Formation Kay,
yacamelli the running back O'Neil gets the, snap looking throws
over the, middle caught across the forty yard line to
the forty two or forty three as he hooks up
with his tight End Grant steck on a gain of.

(02:29:31):
Five they'll actually place at the forty four Of wisconsin's
second down and.

Speaker 5 (02:29:34):
Five, yeah that is a little bit different of a.
Shift we saw that a lot last week Where maulman
would go, over he'd line up on the right. Tackle
there he's fake did that and he actually had a
move stack out of the way to get his spot
at left.

Speaker 1 (02:29:48):
Tack so let me, in, Man i'm gonna Play Kaden
ballard to the left on second down hand, Off yacabelly
hits it off the left side across the forty five
yard line up near the forty seven off the Stack dylan,
fontis so it'll be a third down at about two
here For wisconsin eight and a. Half but it's left third,
quarter twenty to Three maryland leaving The.

Speaker 5 (02:30:08):
Badgers not a lot of movement. There but what you
love About jacumell is you know he's coming full. Speed
he wasn't bouncing around in the. Back it wasn't blocked for,
much didn't get, much but what he did Get jacamelo
is able to lower his pads.

Speaker 1 (02:30:21):
And pick up Two Jackson acre and Kid jakimelli Flanking
danny O'Neal takes a snap reads keeps O'Neil's gonna run.
It he'll get the first down across midfield Into maryland.
Territory La Kai rowland over there out of the secondary
to make the. Stop theal bark at the forty eight
Of maryland first Down wisconsin and he And thomas big
defensive lineman a little slow to get up and he's up,

(02:30:45):
now but he'll have to come out for at least
one play eight oh two remaining in the third.

Speaker 5 (02:30:49):
Quarter AND i love that play call. There you ran
it ran. It you end up getting O'Neil on out
on the perimeter and you have a couple of. Options
acre is there if you need to dump, it if
somebody is crashing down. Hard you give your quarterback a
couple of different ways to pick up that two. Yards
you pick up another first down on third, down and that's.

(02:31:09):
Been that was kind of The achilles heel in that first.
Half we've picked up a couple in this second.

Speaker 1 (02:31:14):
Half anthony And brooks out to the, Right mason And
kakahuna to the left for The maryland forty eight yard.
Line first and. Ten jacamelli stays in there at running,
back shotguns snamp O'Neill and he's gonna keep it and
he'll squeeze about a yard out of. It that's. It Sydney,
stewart outside, linebacker wraps up The wisconsin quarterbacks second down
and nine for the Terraf is forty seven yard, line

(02:31:36):
twenty to Three maryland seven thirty eight left of the third.

Speaker 5 (02:31:39):
Quarter and, UNFORTUNATELY i think that was the. Case you,
know the snap came back really hard and kind of
threw the timing of that. Playoff you got to reach
over to his. Left you got a speed option if
the defensive end played that pretty, well that ball needed
to be. Pitched BUT i think O'Neill wisely thought something
bad could happen BECAUSE i think that timing wasn't. Great
from the jump.

Speaker 1 (02:31:59):
Trips to the rights on second and, nine O'Neil looking
he's gonna pull it down and run agains to the forty,
five try to spin move and he got drilled By
Daniel wingate at the forty five Of Maryland bega third
down and.

Speaker 5 (02:32:13):
Seven, well you love his, Moxie you love his. Toughness
he sees that the pocket is collapsing a little bit
is Not he doesn't even think he knows he needs
to go get positive. Yards he's, spinning he's taking shots
to the, hip and he's bouncing up and he's still
bringing that. Energy you love what he's. Doing from a leadership.

Speaker 1 (02:32:31):
Standpoint anthony And keckohuna to the, Right Jayden ballard to
the left for the forty five Of, maryland third down
and seven, Four wisconsin play clock is down to five
and a low snap O'Neil trying to save the. Play
hands off The. Jacamelli they'll say he was down. FIRST
a low snap O'Neil went down to get, it his

(02:32:53):
knee hit the, turf and just like, that it'll be
fourth and ten at the forty eight Of.

Speaker 5 (02:32:58):
Maryland, yeah it's it's been an, issue and you, know
at watching, practice we've seen that you're asking our center
to reach hard to the left and a lot of
times that makes that. Snap you just gotta, Go and,
UNFORTUNATELY i think O'Neil did a good job a short
hop in. That but once your knee is down and
you get, it play is. Dead they ruled it that,

(02:33:19):
way and now we're forced.

Speaker 1 (02:33:20):
To punt from the forty eight yard line Of. Maryland
Atticus bertram's gets the, snap steps up and the kick
is away a chance to pin him deep as it
checks up or hits inside the ten and goes out
of bounds along the near. Sideline let's see where they.

Speaker 5 (02:37:01):

ways to run the.

Speaker 1 (02:37:09):
Ball, washington back of the, gun gets the. Snamp he'll
hand it To. Williams this time across the ten yard. Line,
man It's Jamir. LATIMER i beg your Pardon tyree's fabery
getting in there the outside linebacker at the twelve yard,
line gain of three and then a big third and
three coming up For. Maryland The terrapins are three of
eleven on third down here, today five minutes left of

why to the, Rights shalik knots to the left in
the motion to the formation shotgun. Snap washington looking, pressure

(02:37:52):
gets away to his. Right washington across the ten out
of bounds of the twelve yard. Line force to the
boundary By Christian. Legro that will be three yards short
of the first. Down we didn't get the, sack but
they kept him short of the line to Gain The
badger defense does its job.

Speaker 5 (02:38:09):
Again ryger did a great job of rushing their right,
Tackle Alan, harron and to his credit he finished. Him
but great pursuit there By, allegro because once he was
able to get By, RAYGER i, thought, oh could he
get to the. Corner, allegro with his, speed was able
to close that and force a critical punt here with

(02:38:29):
four minutes to go in the, COURT.

Speaker 1 (02:38:31):
A late sub For, maryland So Ben barton getting in
there a late Supper. Wisconsint they snapped the. BALL i
don't think they weren't clear to do. THAT i don't.
THINK i don't think the center judge had stepped. Away
we'll find.

Speaker 5 (02:38:42):
Out fire to the snap time out, timeout.

Speaker 1 (02:38:46):
Yep they made that sub. Late they were slow getting
their punt team organized For, maryland so they brought the
eleventh player in and then The badgers took advantage and
took their time getting Ben barton in. There so a
timeout take By barrel and with four h five left
of the third, quarter twenty to, three The terrapins leading
Wiscons what is?

Speaker 5 (02:39:06):
That WE i get a kick out of this because
it's so gamesmanship. Yat you, know if you sub late
and it's fifteen seconds or less on the on the play,
clock YOU i. THINK i can't remember What luke said
in a radio shows it this year or last, year
where you do hockey shifts and you do basketball, shifts
and if you want to, go you go, hockey and
in this case you do the basketball. Substitution you're kind

(02:39:29):
of like wave into the crowd making sure And Ben
barton wanted to Force maryland to use that. Timeout go
out there slow and at this point you want to
back him. Up force In maryland to use that timeout
so they didn't lose.

Speaker 1 (02:39:40):
Yardage brice mcfirst of the, punter about three yards deep
in the end, zone takes the. Snap here Comes clayton
trying to get a block andnot the kick is. Away
faircutch signal By Tyrrell henry and he'll make it at
the forty seven yard line Of. Wisconsin Nicholas clayton came
charging in off the edge AND i got reasonably close.
There it turned into a forty one yard punt for

More three minutes fifty eight seconds left in quarter number,
Three maryland Twenty wisconsin. Three good field position again for The.
Badgers they'll start at their forty seven yard. Line the
total yards in this game two away For maryland won
seventy three For. Wisconsin you talking about how This badger

(02:42:21):
defense has played. Well maryland has had multiple short fields
that they paid off trying to get this offense, going
and sounded like a broken record saying, That but you
see what The badgers can do this?

Speaker 5 (02:42:33):
Time, yeah seven punts a. Piece Obviously wisconsin one of those.
Blocked it's been a defensive, struggle WHICH i think most
of us thought coming in would. Be, Unfortunately, wisconsin especially
in that first, half too many, mistakes Giving maryland's offense
easy scoring.

Speaker 1 (02:42:49):
Opportunity Arian dupre and their running back snap to, a'neal
hands off To. Dupre it's it over the left side
of the line up to about the fifty and that's.
It Joel starlings Of lineman mouth to make the tackle
gain of three second down from.

Speaker 5 (02:43:03):
The fifty guys is zone just a zone playoff the
left Side, Riley malman And, brunner and you got a
little bit of. MOVEMENT i Think maryland is more than
content With wisconsin running and given two or three yards to,
carry they're just kind of playing setting in AND i
think giving that up right. Now on first, Down.

Speaker 1 (02:43:20):
Anthony brooks And keckahuna trips to the rights from the midfield.
Stripe second down and. Seven O'Neil gets the, snap looks
the throw has some time running out of, time checks
it down and a rolling catch maybe By Chris brooks
right at the line to gain the forty three Of
maryland first. Down wisconsin really good.

Speaker 5 (02:43:38):
Protection mandell did a great job of running his guy.
By malmon did a really nice job of locking his guy.
Up that was the case. THERE i think the pocket
O'Neil can sit in there even a little bit, longer
got a little bit happy feet to throw. It he
could have maybe put that On brooks a little bit.
Cleaner but we were able to pick up a first.

Speaker 1 (02:43:55):
Down two fifty two and counting left of the third,
quarter twenty to. Three meryl first and ten for The.
Badgers Tyrell henry goes in. Motion they'll fake the little jet.
Sweep O'Neil looking under pressure and sacked By starlings outside
the forty five yard line though marka the forty six
Of maryland a loss of. Three Joel Starling's richard softfore

(02:44:16):
at A, Richmond virginia transferred From North.

Speaker 5 (02:44:18):
Carolina, Yeah Grant stack was trying to kind of hold
up and help there on his, guy so it looked
past the head and overload off to the left. Side
so they Had steck playing right tackle where the right
tackle would. Be he got a little bit overwhelmed on
that and that allowed to sacked.

Speaker 1 (02:44:35):
Out kurt Kay cohuna And brooks come out to the,
right Spinning anthony to the. Left on second, down O'Neil
hands off To duprix inside the forty five inside the
forty juke bundus right thirty. Five duprex inside the THIRTY
i had taken out of the twenty nine yard line Of.
Maryland messiah delom a safety comes up to make the.
Stop good nifty running From Darian dupree and The badgers

(02:44:57):
of a first and.

Speaker 5 (02:44:57):
TENT a nice job By mandela on the, backside getting
just enough to let that cut, happen and then you
get to that second. Level it's up to. You dupree
has to make a guy. Miss he's able to do
that little shake step and able to pick up a
nice first. Down on a second thirteenth.

Speaker 1 (02:45:13):
One thirty five, left third quarter double d to the,
left O'Neil gets to dupre again up the, right Hash
mark's down near the twenty five yard, line a gain of.
Three Bryce jenkins getting in, there and the Linebacker Trey
reddick as. Well second down and seven for The maryland
twenty five yard.

Speaker 5 (02:45:28):
Line Jackson aker did a really nice job of just
getting enough on that right defensive end to seal that
and allow it snap again a little bit, off a
little quick through the tempo, off a little bit nice
job there by O'Neil of securing that and getting the
ball and picking up a quick.

Speaker 1 (02:45:43):
Four kakahuna And brooks to the, rights Finning anthony to the,
left Kde jacamelli in there running. Back O'Neil from the
shotgun takes the, snap quick shot right side receiver Screen
kakahuna catches inside the twenty five yard. Line maryland defends
it well as they Get kakahuna to the ground of
the twenty two yard, Line reddick over there the linebacker
And Dante joiner the. Cornerback third down and three from

(02:46:06):
The maryland twenty.

Speaker 5 (02:46:07):
Two, yeah you always wonder on, those and especially early
in the season When danny went, in you have to
make sure you have. Numbers it's these plays aren't pre.
Determined you have to see make sure your guys have
leverage to make those. Blocks AND i think that Time,
Fink wisconsin maybe was outnumbered on that and that Allowed
maryland to get it down.

Speaker 1 (02:46:26):
Quick coming up with the final twenty seconds of the third,
Quarter kekahuda wide, left comes to the, formation O'Neill fakes
the end around to, him and O'Neil gets thrown down
By matthis of the twenty yard. Lines ai hear mathis

Jackson acre lining up at full back Cade, jacameli the
tailback O'Neil will go under his. Center the red shirt

(02:50:55):
Freshman Ryan, cory single wide receiver to the writer Is Chris.
Brooks o'deo gets the, snap a little tossed To jacamelle
and he races to the line again and he gets.
THERE i think THEY i don't. Know he days short
ed of the. Nineteen he's. Short he got forced out
of bounds about a half a yard, Shy and that's

(02:51:17):
how the fourth quarter. Begins it looked Like levene scrugs
over there defensively For, maryland so they try to go.
Outside it might be worthy of a. Review we'll. See
we're taking a look at it And i'm thinking he's

(02:51:40):
gonna get. It it's just a matter of When yakamelly
stepped out of bounds down The, yeah the knee went.
Down the question did the ball get to the line
to gain it is very. Close he needed to be
clear and. Obvious but with where there's boding it now

(02:52:01):
that that doesn't look.

Speaker 5 (02:52:02):
Right, no he's definitely going to move The it's just
that if it will be moved up, enough knee, Down
paul is Rob, man it Is razors. CLOSE i think
that play tells you a lot kind of about where we're,
at though from a from a program, standpoint it's fourth and,

(02:52:25):
one AND i think in the old, days you, know
you THINK i was actually Thinking Jackson acre full back
run something like, that and they do the, flip And
yakima did great to avoid that first tackler and at
least make this thing really, close AND i think he got.
It might be in a homer by saying that Maybe.

Speaker 1 (02:52:43):
I'm right there with, you it is really really. Close
and when you when you say really really close that
many times doesn't bode well and trying to get a call.

Speaker 10 (02:52:55):
Overturned after reviewing the, play the runner's chin was down
with the ball extended to the nineteen yard line for
a first.

Speaker 1 (02:53:04):
Down let's go, there you, go all, right and sometimes
it works out. Right, well k that was, you my.

Speaker 5 (02:53:12):
Man, yeah that was just a great individual, effort you,
know from somebody obviously he's been around a long time
and a ton of. Pride he easily. Was he was
kind of hit in the, backfield, fought got around the,
corner was able to just do enough and scrap and
that was a that's a game saving first.

Speaker 1 (02:53:32):
Out kakahunas slapped to the Right Darian dupree the running
back pistol. Formation O'Neil will give it to dupre against
plastered beyond behind the twenty yard, Line reddick getting in
there what Cam rice came crashing in as. Well the
trip to the red zone brought to you by kseih

(02:53:54):

minute of the fourth, quarter twenty to, Three maryland to
free to the right of. O'Neill Now lan It's. Mason
the tied end goes out wide to the Left keckahuna's
lot right motions, Left Benny anthony wide on the right,

(02:54:14):
side shotgun stamp O'Neil looking has. Time three man rush
a checkdown To, anthony who gets blown up by mathis
at the twenty one yard. Line no gain of the.
Play it's third and.

Speaker 5 (02:54:26):
Twelve, Yeah maryland only rushed three, there so there's plenty of.
Time that actually a good job of going and helping
find finding guys to help. That that's the case where
you need to understand that you're going to have more.
Time you see that the. RUSH i think he got
a little bit happy there to take. That that's exactly
What maryland. Wanted they were sitting there waiting on that
checkdown and absolutely Drilled Vine Anthony.

Speaker 1 (02:54:48):
Jaden ballard will come out to the left along with
Tretch Kekahuna Jackson aker wing on the right. Side third
and twelve For wisconsin at The maryland twenty one yard.
Line kahunah st emotions snap to O'Neil. Looking O'Neill looks
left now drifting right and hot pursuit his Cam rice
circles back to his left and gets sacked outside the

(02:55:09):
forty yard. Line that's a. Loss of.

Speaker 5 (02:55:21):
Nineteen it's pretty obviously say you can't let that. Happen
that this is you're seeing the inexperience of, O'Neil because
the protection is. Good you. Can't you have to stay
in that. Pocket There's maryland is funneling you. Out when
you roll out to the right on that you limit
what you can. Do the pocket was. There you stay

(02:55:43):
in there and you deliver the ball and then you
certainly can't backpedal. Around you have to throw it, away
knowing you're down three, scores get it out of your
hand and kick the field. Goal that was the worst case.

Speaker 1 (02:55:54):
Scenario and with that the play clock it's zero and
in this case you either punt from there are forty
five a.

Speaker 10 (02:56:03):
Fourth.

Speaker 1 (02:56:05):
Down it it seems aggravating, there but it doesn't Actually
maryland is declining. It you do at worse do you
just Get bertrams a little more room, there but the
line of scrimmage will still be the forty and the
snap To bertram's and the kick is away trying to
get the gunners down, there and they get there And

(02:56:28):
Jane ballard will down it at the one yard. Line

Yeah i've been very impressed with what he's been able
to do for a freshman to come into this environment
in his First big ten, game to play the way he,
has he's just Been i've been really impressed with not
only obviously his deep ball and athleticism and decision, making
but just his leadership as. WELL i said that on

(03:06:52):
a couple of balls that were, dropped he's handled it.
Well and they just have Been This maryland team has
just been a lot more, poised, discipline you name. It
they've been better than us.

Speaker 1 (03:07:02):
Today kick off From Philip noise in the air return,
Chance this is kicked. Short Vinnie anthony catches at the,
thirteen across the fifteen to twenty up the left hash
mark now cut of right twenty five yard line and
up to the thirty. One it was interesting talking About
maryland And Mike loxley at The Big ten media days
this year In Las. Vegas And i'll be, honest these

(03:07:25):
media days are normally somewhere between boring and migraine inducing.
Boring the coaches usually don't say a whole, lot But locksley.
Did he, said you, KNOW i lost the locker room last,
year which like what with the, nil the discrepancy with
certain players making big bucks and others', knots and there
was a one win Team Billy. Edwards were it not

(03:07:47):
For Billy, edwards they probably would have been an. Over
he had a great game AGAINST. Usc, WELL i think
you have that locker. Room back to the thirty one yard. Line,
First antennas O'Neil throws to the left and that's caught
By anthony and he gets slammed back By Jalen husky
at about the thirty five yard. Line a game of
four second down and Six and For locksley to make

(03:08:09):
that kind of an admission very very. Unusual but they
have regrouped here's O'Neil getting pressured out of the, pocket
rolling to his, right throwing has caught By Jayden ballard
across the forty yard. Line you'll step out of Als
carl To, smith the linebacker over, there to make sure
up to the forty four Of wisconsin and a first and.
Ten ohpatrick was reporting, that you, know on The wisconsin

(03:08:30):
sideline that everybody seemed to, be you, know as together
as you can on a bad, day no finger. Pointing
but you talk about a test, now this is as
severe as it, gets just from a sporting. Perspective eight
ten to play for the forty four Of. Wisconsin first and.
Ten full of The Badger's keckahuna motions into the backfield

(03:08:53):
as O'Neil looking to throw and whips it to the right.
Side Trets keckahun to the catch across the. Midfield Makayro
well Bump kakahuna out of bounds at the forty nine yard.
Lines we mentioned The badgers players coaches have talked, about you,
know the collective resolve of their, team and they feel
like they're better equipped to handle. It he said before the.

(03:09:14):
Game this is as close to a must win as
you could get in an. Opener but, regardless you got
eight games, left you got a lot of season ahead of.

Speaker 5 (03:09:21):
You and if you thought the noise was loud last,
week with a by, coming the noise is going to get.

Speaker 1 (03:09:29):
Louder there's O'Neil obs it our right side and it's, Caught, Yes,
Sir Vinnie anthony keeping a foot in bounds inside the
thirty and he'll step out of the twenty six yard
line on the near side In Maryland.

Speaker 5 (03:09:40):
Territory, Hey, daniel he took another, shot stayed in, there
delivered it, beautifully And vinnie did Think vinnie maybe even
got two feet down on that great, job and knowing
where the out of bounds is, got his foot was
able to secure. It AND i think he did a
little toad. Drag what do they call? It toad drake? Swag,
yeah they.

Speaker 1 (03:09:56):
Do now receivers Left kakahuna in the, Slide Vinnie anthony
to the right tretch now in motion to the. Rights
jacamelli is the running. Back O'Neil back to throw a
little pressure coming up the middle and they get home
and O'Neil just got. Pounded, oh the second man in
just unloaded On danny O'Neill at the thirty four yard. Line, danny,

(03:10:23):
boy you talk about we said it a lot because
it's true how tough this guy. Is he gets, up
they get back on the ball the thirty four yard.
Line second down in eighteen Four wisconsin shotguns stamp O'Neil
four man. Rush danny fires over the middle. Incomplete kakahuna was,
free but they could not make the connection near the
five yard line Of. Maryland third down and long For.

Speaker 5 (03:10:44):
Wisconsin, Yeah danny is, limping and, yeah he's taking a.
Beating he's run the, ball he's gotten, Hit he's got
a couple of late. Hits he's in the. Pocket you,
Know i've been a little bit tough on him about
getting out of the. Pocket if you're getting hit that,
much it's really easy for us sitting up, Here saint Stan.
Bucket you, know he's taking a. Beating that was a
throw That i'm sure he'd love to have. Back but

(03:11:05):
he keeps getting up off the, mat and you gotta
love that about.

Speaker 1 (03:11:08):
It Tyrrell henry slot to the lefts from The maryland
thirty four yard, line back to Throw neil backside pressure
hit as he throws at all most intercepted By wingate
and if he comes up with, it he's. Gone But
danny again off the. Backside this time just got blown.
Up and it's just been that kind of day all

(03:11:29):
the way around for This wisconsin. Offense O'Neil now goes
back down on the. Ground he was starting to walk
towards the sideline and then he just, said, Nolp i've
got to get down on the. Ground so the athletic
trainers will take a look At danny.

Speaker 5 (03:11:42):
O'Neil, yeah that Was Sidney, stewart a freshman. Edge he's
got a lot of. Swag he just Beat Riley maulman
right off the snap and at, blindside just took a
shot And danny's still.

doing what he can seven, stops five of a solo.
Variety but we can't have our heads stuck in the sand.
Here Malik washington has been outstanding For, maryland the freshman,

(03:13:57):
quarterback and the stats are. Misleading teen of thirty three
for two hundred and fifty three yards and two. Touchdowns
it could easily be twenty two or twenty three. Completions
they've had multiple drops and you look at a three hundred.
Plus he's just been.

Speaker 5 (03:14:11):
Outstanding he's been really, good and you, know watching some
of his tape this, week you came across and, pressed
but you kind of thought with where our defense, was
that we would be able to rattle him a little
bit and make him make some bad. Decisions he's a
young guy and he's you, know a road, game big
ten and to his, credit he has handled everything that

(03:14:32):
has been thrown at him today and he's played a
really strong.

Speaker 1 (03:14:36):
Game But Daniel vakos will Try it's like about a
fifty two yard field. Goal he certainly has the leg
strength to do. This his career long was fifty five.
Yards that was while he was At Ohio university a
few years, ago and he was popping him through in
warm ups from this kind of range and easily getting.

(03:14:59):
There levy Snaps Atticus bertram's will hold straight shot fifty
two yard attempt For Nathaniel. Vakos here's the, snap the,
spot and the kick is in the air and it is.

Speaker 28 (03:15:15):
No.

Speaker 1 (03:15:15):
Good pushed, it pushed it to the rights and with
six' eighteen, Remaining maryland back on, offense Leading wisconsin twenty
seven to.

Speaker 5 (03:15:27):
Three And i'm not saying that early in this, game
wiscont the big play To tretch right away and you
you Know billy's out. There you're thinking go down and get.
Points is this a completely different? Game you never know
when you do. That maryland has totally outplayed The Wisconsin badgers,
today and make no mistake about, it but special, TEAMS

(03:15:49):
i think was has been such a just a breakdown
today in a game where you need to, have especially
when you understand that your offense is struggling and the
special teams also struggle. Today and that's why we have
this wide margin on the. Scoreboard in the fourth.

Speaker 1 (03:16:06):
Quarter the Leak washington stays in there first and ten
For rook slot, left motions, right little pop pass to
For rooke trying to bend it to the right side
across a thirty thirty five to the forty yard, line
and For rooke it looked like they had him hemmed.
In he ends up running for a first down up
across the forty five to the forty six yard line
on a game of.

Speaker 5 (03:16:24):
Twelve, yeah that should have been stopped a lot. Earlier
that was just an effort continuing to. Run we that
ball should have been stopped five or six yards. Earlier
said it's.

Speaker 1 (03:16:35):
A twelve yard. Game first and Ten maryland from its
own forty six yard line down a five to forty
five remaining by week next week For, wisconsin in two
weeks they go to The Big house in Ann. Arbor
they should him with a big game on the road
today In, lincoln a two to thirty Kicks central time Against.
Nebraska washington under, center pulls, back hands off To. Wine

(03:16:57):
williams hits it from the left side across, field is
covered up By Ben barton tack At curtis getting in
there as. Well to the forty nine yard line Of,
wisconsin maybe the forty eight and the place of the forty.
EIGHT a game of six second down and.

Speaker 5 (03:17:12):
Four you kind of look through these stats AND i
know the you, know the two big throws By, washington
but time of Possession wisconsin's at almost thirty five. Minutes
this has just been a really weird football, game and
it's but it's been very reminiscent of what the Issues
wisconsin has. Had they've been highlighted this.

Speaker 1 (03:17:34):
Afternoon from the forty eighth Of, wisconsin first and, ten
you'll run out of the. Pistol here's the hand off
To williams up the middle and he gets cut. Down
crashing in there Was Mason reger and he's leaving it
all out there is it?

Speaker 5 (03:17:51):
Again great effort there he's you, know fighting a tight.
End the tight ends trying to cut him, off And mason, said,
No i'm not going to let you cut me. Off
i'm gonna throw my body at that tailback and get
him down on the. Ground that's the kind of effort
that you're looking, for especially in a game like.

Speaker 1 (03:18:07):
This gain of, two and it's third down in. Three
maryland at The wisconsin forty seven yard, line down to
four fifteen Remaining terrapins leading twenty seven to. Three Caleb
Web Octavian smith double wide to the rights to One
williams still the running back and reading. It pulling it
Is Malik washington and he just stop behind the line of.

(03:18:29):
Scrimmage good work by the Cornerback Deanni. Hill well the
defense digging in, there he's still working. It negative yard
is play a loss of, three fourth down and six
from the.

Speaker 5 (03:18:43):
FIFTY a nice job By. Hill he's fighting through a
block there, too And washington made the right read and
holding that and getting out on the. Perimeter But h'll
kind of got around his ankles and he is not
gonna let him go pick up that first.

Speaker 1 (03:18:54):
Down maryland's gonna bleed that play clock and. Seconds Tyrel
Henry deep standing at the eighth Of. Wisconsin bryce McPherson
on the punt pressure light kicks, away end over. End
Henry will let it hit and he goes into the

(03:19:14):
end zone for the. Touchback with three minutes and twelve seconds,
remaining twenty seven to, Three maryland Leading. Wisconsin Billy edwards,
started didn't play a, ton completed one. Pass it was

(03:19:35):
a short. Pass it turned into a forty five yard
connection To Tretch. Kakahuna it was pretty obvious that he's
still not, there and rather than a risk aggravating the,
injury got him out of. There they had prepped both
a lot this. Week edwards had a lot of, reps

(03:19:56):
as of course did, O'Neill and it's been O'Neil the
overwhelming majority of the. Game trips to the left first
and ten shotgun stamp O'Neal four man rushed with the.
TURFS a throw it to the left, side caught By
kekahuna and he is tapped that it. Bounds make That
Tyrrell henry tapped that it bounds to the twenty five yard.
Line it's Actually Hunter simmons in there at quarterback For.

Speaker 5 (03:20:24):

of spark here to finish his game.

Speaker 1 (03:20:34):
Off he's getting his first turns. Here three receivers, right
one on the left snapped The simmons looking checks it.
Down that is caught across the thirty yard, Line Darrion

retreating flush to his, right chase By, Jenkins simmons throwing
it away, incomplete and it'll be fourth and two at
The maryland forty one with a minute twenty one.

Speaker 5 (03:26:14):
Remaining hunter did a good job, there just avoiding some
of that. Rush there is a lot of there's some
stunts and it got a little bit of leakage there
and he was able TO i was critiquing O'Neil a
little bit for not state that was a. Case get
outside of the pocket and get rid of it and
live to play another. Down, here try to pick up
this fourth and.

Speaker 1 (03:26:33):
Two Chris brooks out to the Lefts Okay cahoona And
anthony to the. Right snap The, simmons the hand off
To dare And dupree running for the first down and gets.
There good hard run in the game that is long.
Lost are And dupree making those reps, count gets the
first down to the thirty six yard line Of maryland
with a minute fifteen, remaining With.

Speaker 5 (03:26:55):
Jones missing from an injuries up to fourteen carries now.

Speaker 1 (03:27:00):
Eight the Sub badgers running a. Play the flip goes
To dupree trying to Hurdle delom and that's. DANGEROUS i
don't know If i'm just set out of bounds of
the thirty two yard. LINE i think they had twelve
on the. FIELD i THOUGHT i saw a penalty flag.
There maybe. Not it looks like no never, mind so

(03:27:21):
it'll be a second down at the thirty thirty two
thirty one yard line.

Speaker 5 (03:27:28):
And dupree has come in at fourteen carries fifty two.
Yards he's had a couple of. Catches you can tell
he is he's playing incredibly. Hard you always are looking
for that in games like this where you're. DOWN i
always want to see who are those guys still giving
that max.

Speaker 1 (03:27:42):
Effort and they did call the penalty Against maryland the illegal.
Substitution they did not get the twelfth man, off so
it'll be first in five for the. Record at the
thirty one yard, Line Winter simmons gets the snap for
Man Marylynd. Rush simmons checks it down pass caught By

(03:28:02):
jacamelli at the thirty to the twenty, five cutting right
to the twenty yard line and driven back inside the
twenty yard. Line it'll be a first down for The Maryland.
Terrapins as The badgers are back into the kihred. Zone
there'sitcaseits dot com. Slash badgers bault the nineteen yard line
first and Sent simmons looking throws to the right and

(03:28:25):
that is caught By Eugene hilton inside the. Fifteen Dante
joiner wraps him up at the thirteen yard. Line second
down and four Four wisconsin with thirty five seconds to
play quickly on the. Ball simmons gets the, Shotgun staff
throws over the middle ends don't. Caught Lance mason. Touchdown
Wisconsin Hunter simmons coming in late fires a strike To

(03:28:48):
mason and The badgers are in for the first time.

Speaker 5 (03:28:51):
Today really nice route By. Mason he kind of stemmed
out to make sure he could get that linebacker off
of him and then broke back inside and Luncher simmons
delivered it right where he needed. To AND i know
it doesn't mean a, lot but it's, something AND i

(03:29:13):
Think Wisconsin Hunter simmons gonna feel good about that throw
and catch.

Speaker 1 (03:29:16):
By Masonthaniel vakos out there for the Pat it is
in the air and it is. Good we'll keep it.
Here with twenty eight seconds, remaining twenty seven to, Ten
maryland Leading, wisconsin.

Speaker 25 (03:29:33):
And these.

Speaker 5 (03:29:33):
Things you, know Obviously maryland played very, soft they're coverage,
wise but you, ALWAYS i think coaches always look at
the end of these games when things haven't went your,
way which obviously today did not for The Wisconsin. Badgers
you want to see who's out there. Compete you want
to see who's out there giving max efforts still because
you don't know how many snaps you. Get and at

(03:29:56):
this point now with you know there's going to be
a reevaluation with the bye week coming, in trying to
figure out what this group can do to start moving,
forward because today was a big step. Backwards and here
you see at the end of this guys still competing
making a, play and even though it's going to fall
on a, loss you want to see that effort at

(03:30:18):
the end of these.

Speaker 1 (03:30:19):
Games something everyone will be watching very. Closely moving, forward
knowing that you Got, Michigan, Iowa Ohio states In oregon
on Your october. Schedule vacos with the, Kick maryland was
thinking maybe on Side vacos just wraps it with the
back line of the End zulee for the touchback and
with twenty eight seconds to, play The terrapins can burn

(03:30:41):
off the remaining. Time but do you Have Michigan nebraska?

Speaker 5 (03:30:47):
Today i'd like to See nebraska Knockoff michigan's At nebraska
a young, quarterback ALTHOUGH i kind of thought today with
the young, quarterback it'd be some. Mistakes michigan's obviously got
a very talented freshman quarterback as, well but ANYTIME i
can root Against michigan and know how STATE i.

Speaker 1 (03:31:07):
DO i heard the Great Dave repsen On SIRIUS xm
channel eighty four. Yesterday he said it has been three
two hundred and ninety days Since nebraska last beater ranked.
Team think about. That twenty sixteen was the, year and
maybe today's the. Day Is Malik washington under, center takes the,
Snap he'll hand it To Dewan williams across the twenty

(03:31:29):
five up to the twenty eight yard line on what
should be the final play of the. Game as The
Maryland terrapins will go to four and, zero winning their conference,
opener The badgers will drop to two and, two and
a whole lot of soul searching will be happening in

(03:31:49):
the facility as The. Badgers we'll have a bye next,
week and then the schedule really ramps up beginning in two.

you're A maryland fan AND i guess you're all good with,
it i'b not listening to us twenty seven to. Ten
maryland Defeats wisconsin here this, afternoon as again early mistakes For.
Wisconsin badgers get a field goal blocked early in the
game and interception sets up all of a four yard

(03:36:17):
touchdown drive a blocked, Punts maryland needs only cover twenty
eight on another scoring. Drive that gives you a pretty
good idea of how the day went on an afternoon
Where maryland ended up with three hundred and twenty six
yards of offense to two ninety six Four, wisconsin and
a lot of those yards for The badgers late were
when the game was already well in hand for The,

(03:36:37):
terrapins winning by seventeen, points and with the bye week coming,
up more time to sit in. IT i guess if
you're You're, wisconsin you got to try to heal, up,
though and you got eight games. Left so it's going
to be really interesting to see what these guys do
going into a month Of october that gives them a
schedule that matches up against anybody in the.

Speaker 5 (03:36:58):
Country, yeah things are going to get, easier and you
KNOW i talked about in the fourth quarter that the
outside noise is going to ramp. Up the outside noise
was already you could kind of feel, it AND i
THINK i don't know if the guys felt that. TODAY
i think early on you felt like you move the,
football you go. Down AND i really felt like. Today

(03:37:19):
every game it's important to get a fast, start but
it really felt like today because you kind of feel
like everybody's carrying a weight. Around and you, Know bill
Is billy going to play and he gets out there
and then he gets, hurt and it just never you
never found your, way and THEN i think you want.
It sometimes when you want something so, bad you just
press and you. Squeeze and you, Know Dick bennett always

(03:37:40):
you joined and WHENEVER i get a chance to talk to,
me he's got so much, knowledge and he, said those
that you love, closest you hold on. Loosely that's not
what we saw, today squeezing and trying to get every
last ounce out of, it and a lot of times
you end up making a lot of uncharacteristic. Mistakes that's
what we saw. Today and this team is just not
good enough to overcome any. Mistakes and we keep seeing

(03:38:03):
third and eight turn into third and, thirteen and a
snap here and a penalty, there or you get on
an edge and you miss or all of those things
you just can't, overcome and you factor and you're missing
guys with. Injuries things like this happened today and we're
just not used to, it AND i don't want us
to get used to.

Speaker 28 (03:38:23):
It.

Speaker 5 (03:38:24):
Today it was just a, really really tough.

Speaker 1 (03:38:26):
Day you touched on that we've. Had there was the
and it actually got. Overturning kate got the first. Down
but fourth and one you do an outside. TOSS i
mean for years and years and, years and tell us
you were a big part of. This on fourth and,
one you're almost gonna, say we're gonna run it right,
here stop, us. Yep and they couldn't do. It and
it's just not where they are right. Now with three

(03:38:46):
retirt freshmen in the offensive, line and you got the
right tackle play in left, tackle and you have, that
you have the perfect, storm and you, know, look you got.
It as a, staff got to own. It you know
you're shorthanded in the offense. Line you've had a couple
of guys leave who are starting elsewhere in college football
and other guys who have done the same thing or.

(03:39:07):
Developing but that's the situation they're, in and that's the.
Problem sol that's why they get the big, bucks how
to figure out. Answers but, man they're just in a
they're just in a brutally tough spot right.

Speaker 37 (03:39:18):
Now it.

Speaker 5 (03:39:19):
Is AND i think you saw this early in the
season when you're playing teams and no offense To Miami
ohio Or Middle Tennessee, state but you want it to
look a certain way because then you start building on that.
Confidence and when we weren't running the football real effectively
against those two, teams you go down To, Alabama you're
definitely not gonna be able to do. That and then

(03:39:40):
you get into a big Ten AND i mean WHAT
i had this written down the stats for our tailbacks
coming into. Today Dylan jones won thirty four dry and
dupre ninety two. Years that's for the. Season, yeah, Yeah
hey there were times and again this Isn't i'm not
sitting here, saying, well we need to go. Backwards, hey
that's a quarter like you, Know Melvin gordon won THIRTY

(03:40:03):
jt AND i know those guys are special, talents but
you want to know where we're. At that's why we're.
Struggling and today sixty one yards rushing at.

Speaker 1 (03:40:12):
Home and going back to your your stat About Dylan
jones coming into this, game if you TRUST pff and
you're generally fairly, accurate it's like seventy seven seventy eight
percent of his yards are after.

Speaker 5 (03:40:23):
Contact we saw that in that first. Game it was
just not blocked up great and he was fighting and
scrapping to get whatever he. Could and this, group AND
i think when When grimes came, in this was we're
going to get back to this and sometimes you have
to take a step back to move, forward and it
kind of almost feels like that's where we're. At and

(03:40:45):
when you play young. Players luke said it this, week,
man you don't want to have to play young players
because everything now is so transactional and. Yearly the idea
of building and building and, building it's just not as
common as it used to. Be and when you're playing young,
players the other team's got fourth and fifth of your.

(03:41:06):
Guys and even Today maryland had a bunch of. Freshmen
they did, that came out and played really good. Football
so there's no. Excuses this is where we're, at and
now it's figuring out where are we going to move
and how are we going to move forward to make
this thing? Better and that's the challenges That Luke fickland
his staff have to figure.

Speaker 1 (03:41:23):
Out and in fairness To Jeff, grinds we were saying
this last week. Too he's trying anything and. Everything, yeah
and you, know you try WILDCAT, qb which they were
whipping this week and it was, fine but you get
a stat that whistles By Dylan jones's ear and you,
try you you overload the offensive. Line he's trying to do.
EVERYTHING i THINK i Think talsh And i'll defer to
you That i've heard from other alums schematically they like

(03:41:47):
what they're trying to, do but they're just caught now
with a lot of young guys who were put into
brutally tough. Positions no matter what you're, trying it's hard
to do anything well.

Speaker 5 (03:41:58):
Consistently AND i think you're the hope was when you
decide and you have some young, players is young players
need to build, confidence and you build confidence by having.
Success well they haven't. Had even with the. Wins nobody was, saying,
boy we look. Dominant we're doing this and you want
to build that because we all knew all off season
this schedule In october is no, joke, no And. November

(03:42:21):
it's only going to get. Tougher so these guys are
going to have to grow up. Quick AND i agree
with you know the guys you were talking, to and
you know the GUYS i talk. TO i like What
grimes is trying to. Do he is throwing everything at
the kitchen. Sink he's running jet sweeps and end a
rounds and getting the ball in his guy's. Hands but
you have to have something to really put your foot,

(03:42:43):
on and that typically has been outside zone or power
and right now we're just not able to effectively do
that consistently. Enough and that's why games like today.

As maryland takes Down wisconsin here this, afternoon twenty seven to.
Ten Malik washington eighteen of thirty four for two hundred

think conservatively a half a dozen drops in this, game
so his, numbers which were good to begin, with could
have certainly been much. Better Octavian smith six, catches one

(03:46:43):
hundred and thirteen yards here in the game, today a
couple of touchdown catches For Shalik, knots including a sixty
two yard. Reception Dewan williams, there leading rusher fifteen totes
for sixty two Yards danny O'Neil fourteen to twenty two
one hundred and twenty yards and an interception that's set

some of it maybe some happy. Feet you were thinking
With danny there was one where he was really retreating
and it turned into a big time. Loss just whatever
could happen? Badly? Did?

Speaker 5 (03:47:42):
Yeah, understanding you, know sitting in the, pocket and it's
again we know, this, well it's, easy a lot easier
up here telling a quarterback that's just been getting hammered
for a big majority of the. Day some on design

DANNY i had, to you, know not being able to

Speaker 27 (03:53:01):
Luke fickle inside the locker room right, now you'll face
a lot of tough questions and no easy answers for
your locker room right now going.

Speaker 6 (03:53:09):
Forward let's leave the outside noise.

Speaker 27 (03:53:10):
Alone but that's part of this right.

Speaker 7 (03:53:12):
Now oh there's no.

Speaker 47 (03:53:13):
DOUBT i mean everybody's aware of, it you. Know but
we got to find a. Way and that's not it's
not a good. Day we did NOT i mean that's
not from.

Speaker 1 (03:53:21):
A lack of.

Speaker 7 (03:53:22):
PREPARA i thought the guys had a good, week you,
know and we did not play very well in any
phase of the.

Speaker 27 (03:53:27):
Game that first quarter that has a block field goal
and interception return to the four in a block, punt bad,
snap the lost twenty three.

Speaker 6 (03:53:35):
Yards all of those things pile on one another they.

Speaker 7 (03:53:39):
Do and that's where the confidence.

Speaker 47 (03:53:42):
Thing you, know you can't just find a way to, say,
hey you have some confidence that there's things that have
to build with, that and.

Speaker 7 (03:53:48):
And that's where it's really.

Speaker 47 (03:53:50):
Tough you, know when we couldn't overcome some of those
things Out i'll be the first one to blame myself
on the block. Punt you, know we spend an enormant
amount of time every single day doing that stuff and
say we're prepared for, everything but we were not prepared
and we didn't we didn't.

Speaker 27 (03:54:04):
Execute how significant is that learning curve for three red
shirt freshmen to be on your offensive line right?

Speaker 47 (03:54:09):
Now hopefully it's really really. Good hopefully there's a lot
for the, future but right now it's really. TOUGH i,
MEAN i can't just pinpoint that's the that's the thing right.
NOW i think for for all of us that are
are our older players are. Good players have got to play,
better AND i think that's where.

Speaker 7 (03:54:25):
It's got to.

Speaker 27 (03:54:25):
Start your defense gave you an. OPPORTUNITY i don't know
that you, know when you look back at, it maybe
you'll see some different. Things their third quarter they run
nine plays for two. Yards so your defense gave you
a shot in this they.

Speaker 47 (03:54:37):
Did they gave us the shots to try to get
back in, it you, know to to not get any,
turnovers and some of that is is is all a
part of, it and you, know we've got to we've
got to find ways to do.

Speaker 7 (03:54:48):
That they they did.

Speaker 47 (03:54:49):
It they created, turnovers they made. Turnovers we did. Not
but there's there's got to be some complementary football in.
This that's that's just who we have to be and
and right now that's not who.

Speaker 6 (03:55:00):
We, are, Coach and let me leave you with.

Speaker 27 (03:55:02):
This you talked about how favorable you felt about your
team's culture in this. Offseason how strong do you have
to lean into?

Speaker 1 (03:55:09):
That right?

Speaker 47 (03:55:09):
Now it's we're going to find out what it's made.
OF i, mean there's only one way that we can,
go and it's it's got to go through this and,
unfortunately you, know it's going to be difficult and it's
going to be a, challenge and we're going to find
out what kind of leadership we really have and that's you,
know that's the name of the game now and we're
gonna have to rely upon those guys big.

Speaker 3 (03:55:27):
Time, Luke thank.

Speaker 1 (03:55:28):
You back to you, guys man, oh, guys thank you very,
much and, yeah they have to lean in on. That
and as as you, Know mike presented, it we talked
about it during the. Game they feel they felt good
about it going into the season and now the ultimate,
test we'll see how they how they respond moving.

Speaker 5 (03:55:43):
Forward it's always easy to talk about leadership and you,
know keeping a culture in a locker room when you're
in the off. Season everybody's working and you, know everybody's,
happy nobody's lost the, Game and when you really need
it is moments like, this when you are coming off
a really, bitter disappointing loss and you have everybody in

(03:56:04):
the outside coming at. You you hope that your group
is tight enough that they can stay together and come
out of it on the other. Side but you find
that out and the only way to find that out
is by going through. It and, unfortunately you know you're
really going to go through it with, this with the
result that we had, today it is going to be
coming from, everywhere and you have a second week to

(03:56:26):
take that. In so you go back to work and
all you can do is avoid all the other. Things
you kind of rally around with your team and you,
say let's just get back to the, fundamentals and let's
try to find a way to have good practices and
give yourself a chance because this schedule is not getting
any easier and you're going to have bigger challenges than
what we had.

Speaker 1 (03:56:45):
Today, yeah you speak from experience. TOO i know in
nineteen ninety nine we did have social, media but there
were but there were talk, shows message boards and all.
That and you, guys you knew you had the chops
in terms of talent based on the previous. Season but
after lose the big ten opener Against, MICHIGAN i, Know
brooks comes in, late gives you a, chance but then
you get you're going To Ohio state the following. Week

(03:57:07):
but you still heard the, noise right or you still
had the job of trying to get through. That just
to ignore that as best you can and really just
focus on everybody in the.

Speaker 5 (03:57:17):
Building that's all you can. Do and you, KNOW i
think there's you can rally around, that and you have
to believe that you. Can AND i know for our,
group we had great, leaders you, Know mac And brooks
even as a freshman came, in And ron and you, Know.
Donnell we had a lot of guys that really had
played winning football and you lean on those guys and

(03:57:39):
then everybody kind of coalesces around. It and there was no.
Doubt you, know we were behind at halftime and everybody
At Ohio state and once you can just find some
and that's What luke was just talking. About it's about
finding you can talk confidently you can do. It you
have to go out and have. It you have to see,
it and when you do, that that's when you can
build off. That we were able to do. That this

(03:58:01):
group's got a tall task ahead of.

Speaker 1 (03:58:02):
It and that's the the. Difference you had guys who
it was a special teams. PLAY i think you knocked
the ball out and the second half kickoff and you
guys are off to the races after. That but you
have guys in this program who haven't seen, it even
like the even the wire to Wire wisconsin. Guys, Now
Jayden ballard was on a national championship team At Ohio
state last, year but his playing time was at a.

(03:58:25):
Minimum so so guys who you have been either from
elsewhere or here all, along they just they haven't seen.
It so there is SOMETHING i guess to that seeing
is believing and their next chance to do that is
in two.

Speaker 5 (03:58:37):
Weeks, yeah it just comes back, to you, know understanding
that football is a game of Adverse sports is, hard
and you're gonna have adversity and you need to figure
out ways to overcome it and then build off of.
It and the good teams that will find that, way
and then there's other teams that, don't and that's what
that's what the that's what this group has to figure

(03:58:58):
out which way they're going to.

Speaker 1 (03:58:59):
Go all, right we'll take a. Break beryl And wins
today twenty seven to. Ten more of our Local Wisconsin
Ford dealers postgame shows coming. Up this Is Badger football
from Lear field
