Earlier this week, the voice of Badger Women's hockey, Paul Brown,
caught up with the head coach, Mark Johnson. Their conversation
is presented by Fields Medicine, your premier luxury auto group,
serving customer since nineteen seventy one.
Speaker 9 (05:52):
Well market begins again.
Speaker 2 (05:53):
You've come off of your thirty eight, one and two
when the national title return twenty kids, and already they're
saying Wisconsin number one again.
Speaker 9 (06:02):
I it's just part of it, but yet it's a
great trivia to what you've got going.
Speaker 10 (06:06):
Yeah, it's a tribute to the players and you know
what type of season they had. Uh, as you mentioned that,
you know the number of players that we have coming
back off last year's team, So everybody's at the starting gate.
You know, there's been some games in our league already.
But the big thing is the kids worked hard this summer.
They've had a good fall of training up to this point.
And Uh, I've always get a little anxious about the
(06:27):
first game because you how we're gonna play against opponents
and maybe look good practice. Things are moving along, and
now we get our first contest. I think everybody excited.
Speaker 2 (06:35):
Mark, We're gonna have an opportunity to talk about this
in the future. But you're also gonna lose players throughout
the year and with the Olympics and that kind of thing.
Can you just kind of give a quick synopsis of
how that's gonna work.
Speaker 10 (06:46):
Yeah, it's the first time ever that uh, you know,
the Canadian group and the USA has some centralized players,
you know, and that means that they've taken the players
for the entire year. Those players don't lose their eligibility
in college if they have some lefts. So, uh, this
system they have now the Pro League is that you know,
they're going to take kids usually every month. They took
them in September, they'll take up again for a week
in October, and then November and December, and then make
(07:08):
their final cuts early January, and then at some point
in late January they got to head over to Italy
and get ready for the Olympics. So it's just going
to be like a revolving door during different parts of
the season, which makes it challenging for not only the
players and the team, but also the coaching staff because
when they're gone, you know, you're left with the remaining
(07:28):
players and what you got to do. But the exciting
part is is as those kids leave us and the
kids that are here at you know, last six or
eight games, they're the ones that are going to be playing,
you know, the meat of our season against you know,
some of the top teams in the country. So we
have to continue to help those kids get better, knowing
that their minutes during that period are going to be
ramped up quite heavily.
Speaker 9 (07:48):
Yeah, it's almost like you got an A team and
a B team right a little bit.
Speaker 10 (07:51):
Yeah, I mean, you know we're whole right now, and
you know I'm knock on wood, we don't run into
any injuries, but obviously the kids that are going to
be missing or you know, some of our top players.
And rightfully so you're excited for them because they're gonna
get a chance to play in the Olympics and represent
the country, which is a highlight for anybody. So and
for us back home, I mean, no one's going to
feel sorry for us, you know. So we still have
(08:12):
to put a team on and I think you know,
those players that were freshman last year, as their roles
increased this season and get to the end and it
really goes up. But I'm excited to see where they're
at in their development because that's the most important thing
is continue to develop them.
Speaker 9 (08:25):
I tell you, why do you look at what you lost.
Speaker 2 (08:28):
O'Brien has gone, Wasnavich is gone, Kozlowski has gone.
Speaker 9 (08:32):
But there's a lot of returning talent on that team.
Speaker 11 (08:35):
There is.
Speaker 10 (08:36):
There's you know, the numbers you know that came back
from last year team you know is huge, and so
you still have to go out and play and you
still have to you know, respect your opponents and then
as a team, as I told them, try to today's
game is you know, we got to get better every weekend.
You try to be consistent in your effort, you know,
especially this week and being our first couple of games,
(08:57):
can we play six consistent periods? And that's what I'm
looking forward Mark.
Speaker 2 (09:00):
You've also got a couple of two or three freshmen
in the lineup. Talk about the individuals that uh will
be dressed tonight. As for the first time.
Speaker 10 (09:07):
Yeah, so Adela, you know, she's the first girl we've
had from actually, you know, over the Big Pond. We've
had an obviously Canadian kids. So she's our first check kid,
and you know, she comes in very experienced to played
last year's World Championship, played a couple of years over
in Sweden, and so I'm anxious to see how she does.
Speaker 8 (09:23):
Uh.
Speaker 10 (09:23):
She's not the biggest player, but she's got great hockey
sense and so she's gonna be you know, centering our
top line. It'll be fun to watch her develop. And
so you know, we got a young goaltender on the team.
We've got obviously uh young defenseman h McKinsey Jones. And
so the big thing with these freshman players is is
to you know, get 'em on the ice and see
what they can do, and then work with them at
(09:43):
practice and give them as much exposure to the different
groups that we have to play against throughout the year.
Speaker 9 (09:49):
What are you seeing in the team so far? Mark, Uh,
what are your impressions?
Speaker 10 (09:52):
I know it's Sirling, Yeah, it's it's like Charlotte, one
of our freshman big right winger, Uh, competes very hard
every shift, every drill. I'm anxious to watch in the game,
and you know she's able to do that. As I
told the team, our practices have been very competitive. The
intensity has been really high, and so now can we
do it against an opponent We're in a different colored jersey,
and if we're able to do it in the game
(10:15):
like we do in practice, you know we're going to
have some success.
Speaker 2 (10:18):
A couple of things stood out to me. SChannel, who
was on the freshman line last year, the fourth line
looks like she's on the second line at least right now.
That's pretty impressive.
Speaker 10 (10:27):
Yeah, and so she's one of those that you know
can continue to develop. You know, had a good freshman year,
and now you give her an opportunity to play in
our top six, you know, by you know, moving Leila
back to defense, as we've done up to this point.
You know, that opens a spot up there, which gives
meg an opportunity to see what she's capable of doing.
She had a good camp out and Lake Placid with
the college team out there, so her confidence is high
(10:48):
and so hopefully she's up to a bit started.
Speaker 9 (10:50):
Yeah, you mentioned Lei.
Speaker 2 (10:51):
I was just going to talk about that led the
nation and goals last year as a forward primarily, but
does play defense and maybe with the Olympic sets where
she could potentially wind up.
Speaker 10 (11:01):
Yeah, that's where they sort of penciled, and I'm not
sold on it completely right now, so you know, these
first four games will take a look at it. The
thing about her, she's an impactful player, and you know
we've seen that up front now. As a defenseman, you
can go quiet for a while, you can be as
engaged as you want to be, and so she's she's
got to be an impact player, whether she's playing up
front for us or back on the blue line. So
(11:23):
we're going to watch that monitor and see what it
looks like.
Speaker 9 (11:26):
And on the blue line, there's an awful lot of
experience returning there.
Speaker 10 (11:30):
Yeah, I mean when you put Lala back there, I mean,
we've got six good defensemen. I mean it's tough to
you know, look at other teams around the country and
you know, find somebody that got six strong defensemen like
we do. So we'll see how the game goes and
how that adjusts, and you know, and see what our
success looks like. And my big thing is how we're
going to compete for sixty minutes and can we do
that consistently throughout the season. If we do that, you know,
(11:52):
we should have another successful year.
Speaker 2 (11:54):
And we can't close the interview about except for talking
about Agape Ranch.
Speaker 9 (11:57):
What's the latest there.
Speaker 10 (11:59):
Yeah, we're getting We're about three maybe four weeks from
getting everything completed. We get you know, we'll have a
fencing company come in and hopefully the early middle part
of November we have a grand opening. And all the
work and effort that not only myself and my wife
have put in, but a lot of different volunteers and
our board is going to come to a realization it's
actually going to be completed. We'll get our first kids
(12:20):
on the property. So things are in a really good
spot right now. Thanks for asking.
Speaker 9 (12:24):
Good luck tonight.
Speaker 10 (12:25):
Thank you.
Speaker 2 (12:27):
We're at the Sandford Center on the campus of Bamitgi
State University. Good abiting everybody. Along with Mark Greenhall, I'm
Paul Brown. The Badgers have been introduced to a very
small crowd here at the arena, and Bamigi State will
be introduced here Greeny. First of all, we want to start,
(12:48):
Buddy with the congratulations to you. I had the honor
of interviewing you at the Wisconsin Hockey Hall of Fame
up in Eagle River and you're one of the latest inductees.
Speaker 12 (13:00):
Congratulations, Thank you so much, Paul. It was a real
honor and I was humbled by it. A very memorable time,
gorgeous up there in Eagle River, and it was just
a great assembly of people, great hockey people, family and friends.
Speaker 2 (13:13):
Well, we take a look at the starting lineup for
the Wisconsin Badgers and I'll talk you what no matter
where you look back. Defensively, we're talking about Leila Edwards,
playing with Harvey Potter, playing with Jungle Murphy, playing with Venusio.
You move up front and you've got all kinds of talent.
Speaker 12 (13:36):
Yeah, there's a lot of depth there both as you said,
in the defensive pairs that you rattled off and of
course four solid Blut lives as well.
Speaker 2 (13:46):
And Wisconsin is favored. But yet you can't even think
about those kind of things at this part of the year, right.
Speaker 12 (13:53):
No, exactly. I mean it's a matter. We'll be your
starting off the season. Let's start it off together. Everybody's
got to give their best effort, and it's a lot
of unpredictability, so give it our best.
Speaker 2 (14:03):
Dad. We'll have the opening face off, come it up,
but we're gonna take a break here from up MPG
Minnesota for the playing and the singing of our national anthem,
and then it's game one the Badgers in Bamidge. After
this time off.

Greenhall Well Ron, We're ready to go. The Badgers will
be skating from our left to our right here and
the Beavers of Bamidji State from our right to our left.
The opening lineup Ava McNaughton endole for the Badgers. Boy,
(15:57):
you talk about somebody that's had a great career so
far with the Badgers sixty four games played with the
goals against average, he's fifty six and four with a
goals against average of about one thirty two.
Speaker 18 (16:12):
Pretty solid for your first two years.
Speaker 2 (16:14):
Huh. Yes, it is without a doubt. The opening lineup,
it'll be Caroline Harvey paired with Leila Hadwards defensively and
up front, Kirsten Simms is going to be on the
left side, Lacey Eden will be on the right side,
and then the young lady that the league is talking about,
(16:36):
Della Shapova Lo Lovova, and I'll try to get it.
It's going to take a while. Well, she is from
Czechoslovakia and she is already have been selected potentially as
the rookie of the Year in the wccha her, pardon me,
in it's way too early, though. They've got they've got
(17:01):
Harvey as Player of the Year, they've got Sims and
Chapel on the Rookie of the Year, and they've got
let's just play hockey and see what happens.
Speaker 18 (17:15):
Then I'm with you on that ball, drop the fuck
here we go and.
Speaker 2 (17:19):
Hoping it up it'll be Fairchild along with Smith and Kayser.
For the Beavers, Tom Stock and Macuba back defensively, gross
in the goal and the Badgers will pick it up
with it. Harvey comes around on the right side over
the edwards head, matting the puck. They come in over
the line, tip toward the blue line, eating with it
down on the corner of the right side. The Beavers turn,
(17:41):
tried to bring it out. Shapov Volva tried to pick
it up there and whistle and play is going to
be stopped. Our first stoppage of play. What would you
expect in.
Speaker 12 (17:52):
A game like this, Greenie, Well, let's tell you. I
think our players are very hungry. You know, everybody's anxious
for that first game. So I think you can see
everybody going hard right away and just trying to go
for broke right out the gate.
Speaker 2 (18:05):
Shapova the lavo and they'll play it back down on
the corner on the left side. Badgers go back in
their own zone. Eiden with it, will turn and try
to bring it out. They play it all the way
back down in the Beavers zone and we'll have an
icing called and that'll draw the face off back in
the Wisconsin zone.
Speaker 11 (18:25):
This is.
Speaker 2 (18:28):
The ratings are out. The Badgers number one in both
poles with the Beavers. They've met a number of times,
one hundred and eleventh meeting here tonight. The Badgers of
one ninety eight and the last nineteen games in a row.
AdWords with it, plays it around behind the net and
Wisconsin will try to skate it down on the neutral
(18:49):
zone and coming back into the line along the boards
on the near side. Eden tried to pick it up.
The Beavers look to try and control it on the
near side, Eden trying to work it loose. Kirk Kirsten
Simms comes over to try and help out. They sent
her toward the slot. The Badgers come back to the
point in the play. Dward's trying to play it ahead
(19:10):
at center ice. The puck is loose. Both teams at
full strength. Harvey comes back into the line for the
Badgers on the far wing, taking off her stick and
it comes all the way back and Landy Potter back.
She's paired defensively with Jungles coming in over the line.
Is the lineup Haul along with Gorbatanco and Scannal. Scannell
(19:31):
was a freshman who played on the fourth line last
year they moved her up to right wing on the
second line. They dump it back in the corner. Potter
goes back of it to pick it up on the lead.
It comes to Scannal standle up the boards on the
near side, trailing his haul All trying to pick it up.
Potter with it turned trying to play it. Badgers look
to hold it in. Potter lost her stick. The puck
(19:54):
comes all the way back. Jungles goes back to pick
it up for the Badgers. Jungles in behind the Badger
net eighteen o nine remaining in the first period and
Potter with it works it up the wing. Rink Watt
in the past coming in on the over the line
is haul All move it in. Gorbatanka went front shot
Stanel and it's turned away by Gross nice save.
Speaker 19 (20:15):
There.
Speaker 2 (20:16):
Back come the Beavers and they'll play it back down
in the corner, going back over to set it up
and control it. Wisconsin turns and they come back out
of their zone. They'll play it back down in the corner,
trying to pick it up. Plate loose. Back in the
Beavers zone. They turn it and try to work it out.
Both teams at full strength turning coming up Ice to
(20:37):
play in the neutral zone. Wisconsin try to pick it
up there. They'll work it back in over the line,
break into the net and right is out with Pericard
and Alverson and Elverson played on that fourth line, moved
up to the wing on the third line here in
the early going, and with it did Badger's back in
behind Aba McNaughton, the goaltender rink Wine. They come on
(21:00):
a pass seventeen oh eight remedic in the first period,
Badgers in a scoreless game. Here your thoughts greeting in
the early going.
Speaker 12 (21:07):
Well, I think for Mitchie, looks pretty good, Paul, And
you know they're not giving us anything right out the
gate here.
Speaker 18 (21:14):
And they're a young team.
Speaker 12 (21:15):
They've only got two seniors and they got about eight
freshmen and two of them are on defense though.
Speaker 2 (21:21):
They must they had six new defense. Wow, six new
ones this year. Comes back, Yeah, comes back to the
point on the air side. Bray with it turned and
fired it in on McNaughten and she puts it away
and makes the save and we'll have a face off
coming up.
Speaker 18 (21:39):
But they a solid peball.
Speaker 5 (21:41):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (21:41):
They scrimmaged Minnesota last weekend in a game they lost
I believe five to one. But then they had a
shootout and had a five on five and a three
on three, so they did some extra practice. Time comes
around the board sixteen fifty remeding in the period, Badgers
turn and try to bring it out of their own zone,
trying to skate it down out as Zillish along with
(22:03):
McCarthy and Peckenhaugen. That's another new player for the Badger, Charlotte.
She comes to Wisconsin as a freshman out of Saint Catharines, Ontario.
She's a pretty good sized gale too. Yes, she is
along the boards about five ten, very strong. We are told, yes,
she is late all the way back down going back.
(22:26):
Is Harvey over to set it up? Whistle.
Speaker 18 (22:29):
You know, Paul, we're seeing a couple teams at least us.
We're kind of guilty of it.
Speaker 12 (22:33):
You know, we're trying to get things going right away,
and our passing isn't as sharp as I'd like to
see it.
Speaker 18 (22:38):
But that stands the reason. First game at all.
Speaker 2 (22:43):
Yeah, they have been practicing for about two plus weeks
and they said it was time to start playing somebody else. Yeah,
beating up and they were getting on each other's nerves
later out of the far side, Badgers look to set
it up, trying to move it in. There's a shot
played right out in front and it's tipped over the
top of the goal, fired by Zillish. She's from this
(23:05):
area as a matter of fact. Out of Appleton played
up here Yea and Wisconsin looks to hold it in.
Down in the corner. Here's Kirsten Sims with it, try
to move it in toward the slot. Badger's at the
point hold it in. Vivian Jungles down in the corner
back in behind Eden looking for help, Sims over to
pick it up, and Wisconsin trying to hold the zone
(23:26):
with their number one line Themigie State trying to chip
it out of the zone. Badgers will work it just
inside the blueline of the Beavers covering it. Jungles in
front of the bench of Bamigee State played all the
way back at the Badger's zone. Kirsten Sims coming up
the right side. She's on the right wing. She's playing
the left side as well. Eden with it goes behind
(23:48):
the net, Aiden loses control of the puck. The Beaver's
coming up Ice controlled it bring it out of the zone.
Morris with it and it's played back down in the
corner in the Wisconsin zone. Fifteen o nine remitting in
a scoreless first period. There's a shot from the point
blocked by Wisconsin that it's picked up by Scannal Scandal
around on the far side of the break. Badgers work
(24:11):
it through center ice to the blue line. Scandal tried
to pick it up and the Beavers will turn. They
look for the puck just in front of the Badger bench.
Potter with it, tried to fire it ahead. Borbatanco tried
to chase it down and does Borbatanko centered it. It
comes all the way back to the point. Bnusio holds
it in the play, coming over to try and help
(24:32):
out his haul and Scandal and that center ice went
through the skates there of Ava Murphy. Murphy with it
on the right side, back hands it to the blue
line of the Beavers. No score in the game. Fourteen
twenty four remitting, and we'll have an icing call. We'll
take a thirty second break. This is Wisconsin Badger Women's.

This is Wisconsin women's hockey presented by Oak Park Plays.
Speaker 2 (25:32):
Badgers go back in their own zone. We're going to
pick it up with it. As Venusio bangs it around
the boards on the near side. Badgers will turn and
they try to play it ahead, work back down in
the corner, trying to chase it down and ride along
with Picard and Halverson, both teams at full strength. No
penalties called in the game. Beavers try to get it
(25:52):
out of their own zone, going back to control it
and try to move it up ice coming out of
the zone and done. Wisconsin trying to break that up
as it's played back down in the corner by Cooper
Whistle and we'll have another face off coming up back from.
Speaker 12 (26:08):
The zone of the MIDGI State one thing I've noticed
here about Bamigi is the the when the puck changes possession,
they transition the fuck very quickly, you know, if they
get it just upping out of their zone pretty quick.
Speaker 2 (26:22):
And we've got Eden out on the ice. So along
with Chapel by book laid Bulba there Chapoo, it's going
to take.
Speaker 18 (26:31):
A little bit of this color. Shap that's her nickname.
Speaker 12 (26:35):
We'll stick with that because that no scrabble draw is
going to kill us trying to pronounce that.
Speaker 2 (26:39):
Name all night. Coming over trying to pick it up.
We'll get it back over to Eden. Eden comes in
over the line, back around and the Chapel Valaila where
a shot and just missed the corner of the NPT
and I see it from the bad back here shapov
Lava with it again, trying to center the puck down
of the corner. Eden is out and also out of
the ice. Badgers with that forward line sims along with
(27:03):
Chapo Valava and it's going to be played back down.
Then coming over to pick it up, here's Harvey. Look
at that skill. Harvey with it works her way, comes
in over the line, moving it in shot right out
of the rebound backhander. She almost got the rebound and
put it in, didn't She just smoosekater Pott the solo
rush there with a lot of speed moving it into
(27:24):
the zone while thirty three remaining in the scoreless first period.
Here and play comes at center ice, coming back in
over the line. The Beavers try to set it up.
Johnson out with Gettle and Armstrong on their forward line,
and the Badgers work the wing on the near side,
coming through the neutral zone. This is Potter. She carries
(27:45):
it in over the line, try to angle towards the
net out in front, poking at it right there, trying
to get it toward the goal. Was peeking' holdm and
it comes back over to the point on the near
side and trying to work it loose. There's a shot
right that was blocked and it was controlled. McCarthy on
the line with Zillish and Pekinhogan and back along the
(28:11):
boards trying to go back over to set it up
down in the corner. Badgers look to control the play
down in the corner. That's McCarthy. McCarthy with the puck
moving it between the dots. Fired it that's blocked in
traffic and it's going to be turned away. Badgers come back,
coming in over the line, trying to control it, and
it's going to be played behind the goal around the
(28:33):
Beavers in control. Shots are four to one in the
game and the Badgers with the four, the Beavers with one,
and we'll have another icing call.
Speaker 12 (28:42):
Yeah, they're goaltender's playing well. She's getting tested, but she's
answering the bell there. Caitlyn Gross number one in net
for the Beavers.
Speaker 2 (28:49):
Out of ham Lake, Minnesota, with a record of twenty
five wins twenty six losses.
Speaker 18 (28:56):
Ye, she's not their weak link by any means, that's
for sure.
Speaker 2 (29:00):
Coming up Goarbatanko, Haul and Scandal out for the Badgers.
Venusio and Murphy are back to the defensively. Boy, what
a solid core in that d coming back over to
try and set it up and controlling it with it.
Badgers along the boards on the near side, trying to
hold the zone and it's going to be played behind
(29:21):
the app turning trying to bring it out as Comstock
looking for help in the play, comes around to me.
Cuba on the wing up the ice. They go on
the control. That's Smith with it, who's out with Fairchild

be played on the board's near side. Badger's Venusio with
a shot went high and wide. Gorbatanko over to try
and pick it up up. We're at ten oh twenty
eight remedic of the first period and we still don't
(30:05):
have any score here in Bamdge Minnesota. Back in behind
around the boards on the farm side over trying to
control it. That's Leaper Laper looking for help with Smith
and Norris on that line. Great d by Venuzio and
coming back up Ice the Badgers Hall Cassie Hall comes
in over the line looking for the play of the
(30:25):
shot and Morris is going to cover up and Gross

zone and we'll have a face off coming up just
outside the blue line of the Beavers. Lemigi State has
not won a game against the Badgers in the last
(31:32):
nineteen outings. And we've got a break in the action.
They're going to resurface the ice, so we'll take our
last break of the period.

Olk Park Place Independence when you wanted, assistance when you
need it. We thank them for being a part of
our broadcast. Chapel valay Bova ready for the faceoff, coming
up with Eden and Simms on that forward line. Back defensively.
It's Edwards and Harvey. Harvey picked as a potential player
(32:49):
of the Year. Hirst and Simms picked as one of
the All League WCCHA players along with Harvey and the
Badgers to work it behind the net, trying to control it.
Eden around of the far side over to Harvey. Harvey
and Eden work the far corner trying to get control
of the puck and the Beaver's trying to bring it out.
(33:12):
It's held in and down deep in the zone in
the corner. Badger's for checking with that forward line turning
trying to bring it out of the zone, and the
Beaver's having trouble get it. They got out of their
own zone. Hirst and Sims looking to help out down
to the corner. Harvey with it back to the point
on the play A little given go to Eden Aiden
(33:32):
trying to pick up the paths from Harvey down to
the far corner. Badger's trying to center the puck, but
it's tied up in traffic, and the Beaver's turn trying
to bring it out. Wisconsin holding it in, Sim's controlling
it and Sim's with it on the drop to lay
Ley Edwards. The pass comes out of the zone. They
got a clear and back me in over the line
(33:53):
quickly as Sim clear from her stick. The Badgers look
to hold the point on the right side and Sim
with it at center ice. Sty'll drive it back in
the Badger's zone quickly ahead to Eden who tipped it
back down of the corner, and the Badgers are going
to change up. Eight point fifteen remaining in the first period,
still no score in the game, and Gettle is out.
(34:15):
With Armstrong and Johnson on the forward line, Badgers look
to hold that in out is McCarthy along with Zillish,
and there's a shot right on and the save is
made by Gross.
Speaker 12 (34:26):
You know, I'm seeing some stronger port checking by the
Badgers here, making a lot more difficult for.
Speaker 2 (34:32):
The midgy state to get it out of their own zone,
which is good for us. Shots are eight to three
in the game so far. The Badgers, with the edge
but no score, face off the Badgers setting it up
on the far wing down to the corner. On the pass,
it's Peak and Hogan peak and Hogan nice back net
(34:54):
there by her Peak and Augan is freshman, Yeah, out
of St. Friends, Ontario. She's got one speed ball, very hard, hard,
seven fifty remitting in the period round on the far side.
(35:16):
Badgers look to try to hold it in and they
sent her it toward the net. Shot Zilich and trip
Badger player taken down. There no call on the penalty.
Wisconsin goes back Potter with it. That pass is intercepted,
moving it in shot rebound right out front. Has McNaughton
made the save. Good opportunity there by the Beavers back come.
(35:37):
The Badger comes in over the line. McCarthy will arrive
almost pop toward the net and whistle and play is
going to be stopped.
Speaker 12 (35:45):
Bunsed off. Gross's blocker trickled up above her. She didn't
know where it was for a little bit. There is
hoping to drizzle in. That's so lucky. So we'll have
a face off to the goalie's left.
Speaker 2 (36:02):
Both teams had been full strength, and it comes back
to the point on the near side. Padgris will play
it around Banusio behind the net. Gorbatanka was out with
hal and scandal. Padres hold the zone on the far side,
trying to control it. Wisconsin. It works it behind the
net and play comes to the far side, shot as
(36:25):
wide of the goal. Wisconsin trying to hold it in.
Bnusio plays it behind the at Gorbatanko over to try
and pick it up and hold the zone, but it's
going to be dump in toward the Badger Benchot a
play down along the cords on the far side, and
we'll have another face off coming up in the zone
of the Bamigie State Beavers a little bit.
Speaker 12 (36:47):
Agoy Eva was called on there to make a pretty
good step and then there was a rebound.
Speaker 18 (36:51):
I was led. Nobody on the White jerseys popped it
in a.
Speaker 2 (36:56):
Very small crowd here at Sandford Center tonight. I think
you're all out and joying the best ball ever had. Yeah,
about seventy two degrees up here today. Gorgeous Sonny Mark
Johnson said, Hey, the water is blue. Every time he's
seen it, it's been frozen. Coming back over to pick
it up and Ava Murphy back over to control it.
(37:16):
Dava behind the net of Wisconsin, paired with Venusio. They
slide it out on the brake, works down in the corner,
skating back over to pick it up. Max Cuba kind
of whistle in an act. Nice thing will be called
against the Badgers. With six thirty three remitting in the period,
(37:38):
we'll have the face off coming up to the right
side of Ava McNaughton back in the Badger zone. Six
thirty three remaining in a Scrollers first period. No penalties
called in the game, and plays back down in behind
the net, around over the wave of Murphy, but with
it slides it out on the brake, go over to Gorbatanco,
(38:01):
Gorbatanco on the lead coming in over the line, trying
to work through with Cassie Hall. Scandal over to pick
it up. Whistle and play is going to be stopped
and maybe go out of the cage.
Speaker 12 (38:12):
Got knock clue, Yeah, yeah, yeah, No, Pedali is pretty
clean contest here.
Speaker 18 (38:17):
Now do you have the shots, Paul, They don't have it.
Speaker 2 (38:19):
Up on the board.
Speaker 18 (38:19):
I don't know what the deal is.
Speaker 12 (38:20):
Eleven to four, Okay, we're gradually starting to get a
net a little more often here.
Speaker 18 (38:25):
As we keep the puck in the offensive.
Speaker 2 (38:27):
Zone, base off coming up just outside the blue line
and coming over to try and set it up the
Badgers at neutral ice. We'll play it along the boards
on the near side. They'll dump it back down in
the corner and cover up the shot, and we'll have
another face off coming up out of the ice for
(38:57):
the Badgers.
Speaker 18 (39:01):
Picard wins the draw.
Speaker 2 (39:02):
And it comes ab out of the play. It's going
to be worked in behind the net. They got Grace
Bickett as an extra attacker out or the additional forward
here and play along on the boards, trying to work
it towards the net. Comes loose and it's going to
be played at center ice. Bicket will break that up
brick and skates back into the line, plays it back
(39:23):
down on the corner, trying to skate it down for
the Badgers, both teams at full strength. Alverson is out
of the ice along with per Card and n Right
and going back over his Harvey. Harvey played it away
from the defender coming in to try and break that up,
and that was Johnson, Wisconsin controlling it. They come out
(39:47):
of the zone on the play, per Card controlling the
puck for Card with it. We'll flip it down on
the corner of the right side, going back over to
pick that up. As Bray Bray comes out of the zone,
Pray will work it up ice on the lead. They'll
dump it back down in the corner. Potter goes back
to chase it on the near side and the Beaver's
turn tried to sent of it toward the goal back
(40:08):
out on top over the Brat. They work down on
the corner on the left side. Four fifty four Remintican
the scoreless first period and we're Wisconsin trying to work
it along the boards, trying to play it in behind
the app around on the far side over the Potter
looking for help from jungles and the play on the wing.
(40:29):
Wisconsin's being pinched in here on the air boards, can't
get out of the zone, and finally they clear it,
moving it up ice. Here Eden coming in over the
line with Kirsten Sims and they'll move it around, controlling it.
Here's Sims moving it in with a shot and rip
the upper corner of the net. Getting the first goal
of the year is Kirsten Sims as she went up
(40:52):
right underneath the crossbar and ripped it into the twine.
And it's a one to nothing lead.
Speaker 12 (40:58):
For the badger Man's right hander and she was on
the right wing and she beats Gross right under the
bar above the glove hand on the short side for
a goal number one. Great shot by Kirsten Simms. Beautiful
goal man. The last three goals we've now seen her right.
(41:19):
Paul goes back to last year, right right, three in
a row. Pick it up where she left off. I
like that and it's going to be set up.
Speaker 2 (41:28):
Boy. That was really a nice goal.
Speaker 18 (41:30):
Wasn't that a dart?
Speaker 2 (41:31):
Yeah? It really was man, no room at all. Gross
was not a position, but she just had that couple
inches right upstairs underneath the bar and Wisconsin will work
it up ice control, bring it out of the zone.
Badgers come back in over the line. Three point fifty
nine or a metic in the first period as Zelli
shot on the ice with McCarthy and McCarthy overskated the
(41:55):
puck and going back over to cover it is Finley McCarthy.
She's out of Whitefish, Montana. They like her a lot.
Speaker 12 (42:03):
Yeah, she's if we have to kill a pedal, you'll
probably see her as one of the forwards out there, Paul.
Speaker 2 (42:09):
She's got a lot of skill. Back in Hogen with it,
trying to chase it down in the corner. Yeah, I'm
looking to try and pick it up, and it's going
to be played back over the wave of Murphy to
Venusio comes on the board over to Gorbatanco trying to
go rink wide on the pass, and it's going to
be played back down in the corner. Good Ford check
(42:30):
here and play goes out in front. They gave Eden
and assists Kirsten in Sim's with the goal. Assists by
Lacey Eden on that first goal, and it's going to
go back down in the corner, back in behind the
that one nothing Wisconsin with two point fifty six remaining
in the first period. Here av a Murphy back of
(42:53):
it to set it up. Murphy controlling it coming through
center eyes lay down in the corner on the near side.
They try to go and front. Gorbatanco is there, whole
beautiful Plcannel was there, but neither one of them could
get control of the puck. Badgers Aba Murphy with a
drive deflected. It comes back out over to center ice.
That's Cassie Hall with it all looking for help from Scannal.
(43:14):
Scannel skates in over the line, picks up her own pass.
Look at her go off the board. Played back in
behind the net Scandal along with Gorbatenko. It's going to
be turned away by the Beavers. They play it out
intended at center ice for Johnson. Johnson trying to chase
it down in the corner. Beckett goes back of it
to try and play it away. Also there is Armstrong
(43:37):
trying to control the puck, but Leyla Edwards turns and
brings it out. Badgers work through center ice. Here's Kirsten
Simms again flipping it in over the line. Little given
go there. Kirst and Simms tried to center it to
Eden eating down in the corner on the nearboards, back
in the Beaver's zone as they try to pick it up,
and there's a drive by Bickett from the point right
(44:00):
on over to Sims. Sims just inside the line. The
pass comes out of the zone as Edwards had a
turn and clear the zone a bit to drive it
back in back goes Ghettle and behind that at the
Beaver's turn and come up Ice. They try to control
it in the neutral zone. We're down to one twenty
five remitting in the period. Shots are thirteen to four
(44:23):
Badgers out in front, Lay in the corner on the
near side, banked around the boards coming over to try
and pick it up. Wisconsin down in their own zone.
We'll work it out of the zone. They come on
the wing on the near side. Here's Eden on the
pass from Adela comes back over and Potter with a
drive eating with the roy bound right out in front.
(44:44):
It's one minute remitting in the period. It comes back
of the venusio or pardon me to Jungles in over
the line. Here's Enright moving in with per Card in
front of the net. Badgers is starting to get a
lot of pressure in front of the goal. Back moving
it up I. It's going to be turned back by
Enright and controlling get Badgers try and they got to
(45:05):
weight to clear the neutral zone. Jungles will drop it
back thirty five seconds remaining. Alverson with it flips it
down on the corner on the left side. Wisconsin got
a goal at fifteen thirty nine of the period in
front and tip wide. Nice tip there, yea by Halverson,
but just why of the goal Badgers of pressure and
(45:26):
right with a dry We're starting to get the puck
to thet with that frequency fall. Good to see that.
Speaker 12 (45:33):
Hey, it was nice to see a great ship by Bickett,
who doesn't see a lot of ice type. She did
a lot of great things, you know, won the battles
along the wall, some good passes, some great defense overall,
nice ship. Good to see that depth just growing, you know,
more and more players contributing.
Speaker 2 (45:48):
The Nusio is out of the ice. Roar Botanko Hall
out as well along with Scannal. And this is Venusio
at the point who's playing with Ava Murphy on on
the corner on the near side and trying to move
it in scandal in the backhand or just lot of
the goal by Gorba Tankl and the Badgers look to
(46:08):
hold the zone and they'll play it, they'll length of
the ice. Your thoughts on the first period.
Speaker 12 (46:13):
Well, I think as the period progressed, we started playing
with a little more you know, confidence, and as a result,
we got more pucks to the net, which you know,
just increases our chances here, but right at first, a
little ten of them, as you might expect coming out
of the season opener.
Speaker 2 (46:29):
Here, all right, we're going to take a break. This
is Wisconsin Badger women's hockey, brought to you by Oak
Park Players. Trow to it here, Sims moving it in
(46:56):
with a shot upper corner of the that the first
goal of the year is Kirsten Sims as she went
up right underneath the crossbar that ripped it into the twine,
and it's the one to nothing lead for the.
Speaker 19 (47:11):
Badger after one period of play. Here we are opening
game of the season. This is Bradberg Line from the
ten to seventy studio here live in Madison. Your Wisconsin
Badgers are leading the Big Bamigie State Beavers won enough
one to zero after the first period.
Speaker 5 (47:30):
It's been a scrappy game.
Speaker 19 (47:31):
So far, as each one is trying to find their
footing at the beginning of this game. A lot of
missed passes, just trying to get their feet underneath them.
But so far, the Badgers have been the most aggressive
on the goal, sixteen to four in shots in favor
of the Badgers. Obviously, the fifteen saves from the Bimigi
state goal lead with that one single goal from Kirsten Sims.
(47:54):
We'll be back after this. This is Badgers Women's hockey
on ten to seventy.

West and sort of the championship hang over the act
deal with heading into this weekend?
Speaker 11 (51:09):
Great, great question.
Speaker 22 (51:10):
I think you know, I still being able to take
pride in that is incredible things to accomplished.
Speaker 27 (51:16):
But at the same time, when we're gonna have Target
coming back every single game.
Speaker 11 (51:19):
We're going to get every team best game.
Speaker 22 (51:21):
But I think that will benefit afterward and hurt us,
all right, And obviously we have quite a busy off
season plan for the US. Say, of course, Uh, you've
played on the B line and you know we've seen
it a couple of times here in Madison. You were
sure of playing like Shay Ledwards there on the blue line.
Are we going to see some of that maybe this season?
Speaker 11 (51:42):
Yeah?
Speaker 9 (51:42):
I think so.
Speaker 27 (51:43):
I think that's the plan.
Speaker 11 (51:44):
You know, whatever I'm doing with USA, how was you
to here with consience?
Speaker 27 (51:48):
Just for some you no consistency in continuity, But you know,
I can play anywhere, and I think all the coaches
know that, So I never know, actually, but I'll be
prepared for whatever, and I'm alongside great ford and coaches,
so i'll I'm.
Speaker 22 (52:00):
Fine to tell me more about that experience playing for TEAMU.
To say, actually win the national championship, you're going pretty
much right back.
Speaker 9 (52:06):
To work great.
Speaker 11 (52:07):
I mean, yeah, it was.
Speaker 27 (52:08):
We got a quick quick turnaround the celebration National Championship
with those girls that we spent the whole season working
hard with.
Speaker 11 (52:15):
They were away to USA and you got to hook
the squitch.
Speaker 22 (52:17):
You knows, different intensity, older girls, different girls who are
still in the middle of their season versus we're going
to finished car But yeah, I think it was, you know,
worked out.
Speaker 27 (52:27):
We're coming off with some very good momental me and
me positively channeled it.
Speaker 22 (52:33):
There you go, well, thank you very much and get
bucket again.
Speaker 2 (52:36):
Thank you.
Speaker 22 (52:37):
They time there with Caroline Harvey.
Speaker 11 (52:38):
Caroline, how's it going good? How are you doing?
Speaker 2 (52:40):
Wonderful?
Speaker 22 (52:41):
So you've been named the soul captain of the team
as you after being a pro captain last year with Casey.
What does it mean to wear the team again for
the order. It's always such an honor to have a
big girls believe in you and probably.
Speaker 11 (52:53):
Said even every one of them. Then it takes a
team to win championships to you know, I take called
them to get the job done. So I look to
other girls, other leaders because it's my team in general
to get it done. And it doesn't take one person
and takes uphole, you know, feel like, to.
Speaker 9 (53:07):
Get it done.
Speaker 22 (53:07):
What do you feel like your role is as where leadership.
Speaker 11 (53:11):
Goes with the new freshman to to help them get ackling. Yeah,
making sure they're comfortable on means, they all belong here,
they all have any skill set brings something gets to
the table. So just making sure that they feel comfortable
and confident in themselves because we believe in them and
they should be doing themselves with making video.
Speaker 22 (53:26):
And I asked Lala this question a few minutes ago.
How are you dealing with the championship hangover? Obviously stuff
when you win a national championship and then you've got
to come back and start work again. How have you
dealt with that? And how does the team dealt with
that and all that?
Speaker 11 (53:37):
Yeah, I mean it's it was a great year last year.
We kind of closed that chapter now and we're reminded,
you know, every now and then of that. But we're
looking forward. We have a completely new year, a new
team ahead, and we're not looking back at past pictures
as much as those are so sweet. So we ever,
I said, on something bigger this year and more I
accomplished that.
Speaker 22 (53:56):
One of my last questions talking about your time was genius.
Say how that experience of you winning some more thrilling game.
Speaker 11 (54:03):
Yeah, it's been amazing, so greatful quo with opportunities and
always such an honor where the USA jersey, and yeah,
I'm looking forward to whatever is to come with that experience.
And well I'm here. Toby Son has gone to the
hockey and learn there to gock into USN hockey.
Speaker 22 (54:18):
All right, Well that was Caroline Harvey listening to bathroom
and Talkee on senswn of the game.
Speaker 2 (54:24):
And we're back here in Bamiji, Minnesota. This is Paul Brown.
Greeney is downstairs as he does every intermission, goes and
chats with the Badger coaching staff and gives a perspective
of what he's seeing from up here and at the
same time check it in with the goaltender, who's Ava McNaughton.
(54:45):
And Ava having a fabulous career for the Wisconsin Badgers.
It is one to nothing. We only had one goal
in the game, and it was scored at fifteen thirty
nine of the period, the Badgers getting the lead of
one to nothing with an even strength goal five on
five scored by Kristen Simms. It's her first goal of
(55:08):
the year and one assist was given on that goal
to Lacey Eden, obviously her first assist of the year
as well. And those two are on that number one
line along with Shapova le Bova, and that is the
young lady out of the Czech Republic, and she is
(55:30):
an outstanding prospect. In fact, she has been potentially selected
as the potential rookie of the Year in the WCCHA
and a lot could be expected of her, people getting
their first opportunity to see her in this series. Wisconsin
is very deep upfront in the forwards. We really don't
(55:52):
get a chance during the game to talk about They
only lost basically three players in the forward positions. They
lost O'Brien she's no longer with the program, along with
Wadznevitch who graduated, and Kattlowski back defensively, so Wisconsin has
(56:12):
got twenty players on the roster from the last year
that are back this season. And then of course we
have the addition top some outstanding freshmen, they signed six players.
There is two young ladies named Gorbatancos that are the
younger sisters of Kelly Gorbatanco. They are not dressed here
(56:37):
in this game, but we've talked about Peke and Hogan
one of the freshmen that's dressed here tonight, along with Levoga.
Both of those freshmen are in the lineup and then
back also defensively, Wisconsin, they've got a couple of other
(57:01):
defensemen in addition to Ava, Murphy, Nusio, Jungles, Potter and
Edwards playing back there as well. So Wisconsin, as you
can see, has a tremendous amount of talent on this
hockey team and a lot is expected. They were picked
number one in the college hockey polls that are done.
(57:23):
They're predicted to win the league. They selected Harvey as
potentially the player of the year and on the first
team that Kirsten Simms was selected along with Harvey. And
what was interesting is you have McNaughton, who was the
Hockey College Coach of America group that selected her as
(57:45):
the goalie of the Year last year. She's not even
mentioned in the WCCHA in that category. And on the
first team. Neither is Leila Edwards, who had thirty five
goals in at the nation in goals scoring. But all
of those things at this point, they're nice piece of
conversation but really has no impact on what's happening on
(58:09):
the ice. And in terms of Wisconsin, they're anxious to
see specifically what this club is going to be about.
They've got a lot of depth. They're going to be
giving people opportunities. They're going to make some changes in
the lineup and see how they work out and go
from there. But there is no question that the Badgers
are very legitimate and one of the more calended teams
(58:33):
in college women's hockeys. We're going to take a break.
We'll be back with the second period after this time out.
And this second period, by the way, is sponsored by

you say?
Speaker 5 (59:00):
Zero?
Speaker 19 (59:01):

Shots were sixteen to four in the first period and
the Badgers try to say your side. Both teams at
full strength here no penalties called in the game yet
at this point in nineteen seventeen preventing in the second period,
Badgers out on top over to Harvey. Harvey with a
(01:00:51):
drive tipped in front by Eden just wat of the goal.
Ice redirect comes back around and Harvey holds the point.
Try to flip it a had on the play. Badgers
worked the wing on the near side, eating down in
the corner, and the Badgers looked to try and set
it up. There's Shapova Laivova with it back around the
(01:01:11):
boards on the far side. It comes back over to Potter.
Potter with a puck behind the det centered it out
in front. Beavers clear it from in front of their
own neck in the neutral zone of Vivian jungles back
in the lead over to Sims. Sims cutting in over
the line between the dots, pulled up, tried to slide
it back door, intended for scannal behind the net. It
(01:01:33):
comes around over the hall back to the point on
the near side. Shot driven cleared from in front of
the death as the beaver's back with gettle trying to
clear it to get it out of the zone. Vivian
Jungles took that away. Badgers with pressure shot right on
by Potter block. Potter gets it back. Potter down in
the corner of the right side, controlling it. Potter moved in,
(01:01:55):
shot kicked away, had a nice save there as it
was coming back to neutral ice. Wisconsin ree groups with
her body extended. Gorbatenko chipped it down in the corner.
They play it up the glass. The beaver's gattle with
it back into the Wisconsin line pulls up on the
right side. Tried to tip it out in front, cleared
(01:02:16):
behind by Ava Murphy. Murphy's guides out of the zone,
controls the puck comes through center ice skate center of
the line, flips it down in the corner, trying to
pick up her own pass. Seventeen thirty four remitting in
the period and the beaver's turning. They come back up ice.
They'll work it out of their own zone with it
as Smith with a drive when wide to Ava McNaughton,
(01:02:39):
Badgers turning it works brink wide to the near side
and it's going to be held in there by Senden,
who worked it down in the corner. Off on the pass.
They try to come back to sending at the point
they'll play it behind the net of Wisconsin seventeen o
eight remitting in the second period one nothing Wisconsin, the
goal of the game by Kirsten Simms, her first goal
(01:03:02):
of the year. Ava Murphy with it, played it behind
along on the back wall and the Badgers look to
clear it. They work it up the boards on the
right side, coming through center. Rice with it his haul
played in over the line, trying to skate it down
was En right and right work in the back wall
and the Beaver zone comes around on the play a
(01:03:22):
percard Pricard skates around on the left gives it off
on the play to Harvey. The defense deepened the zone
there back over to Edwards back out on top all
They tried to move it to en right, but she
couldn't get control of the puck in front of the net.
Edwards trying to hold the point and does comes around
over to Harvey. Harvey with a drive right on his block.
(01:03:44):
Raybound comes back over to Enright, waiting at the point,
but the Beavers turn and they'll play it back down
on the Badger's zone off the stick of Morris, where
there was.
Speaker 12 (01:03:54):
A nice shot by Harvey here from the front of
the left dot there and Golton Gross me and they
see with that blocker, but as a good hard shot.
Speaker 2 (01:04:03):
Eighteen to four of the shots in the game right now.
Pekin Hougan is on the line with McCarthy and Zellich.
They're out on the ice Venusio one of the defensive
pairing along with Potter. On this through pier. Badgers try
to get control of the puck, but it's put away
(01:04:24):
in the glove of Gross who made the save.
Speaker 18 (01:04:26):
There.
Speaker 2 (01:04:27):
Eighteen to four shots on goal here in the second period.
They had a bad storm in the month of June
here in Bamidji, Minnesota, had straight line winds of over
one hundred miles an hour and it did a lot
of destruction here on the rink. A lot of the
(01:04:49):
rink has got water damage up in the suite area,
they've got it all blocked off. They have to redo
part of that. Part of the building came loose, that
kind of thing. The press area was affected, furniture is
piled up here in the press box and stuff. I
guess it was an unbelievable storm.
Speaker 12 (01:05:10):
Yeah, we saw a lot of felled trees as we
came in from the airport, and well, I wondered what
it was from.
Speaker 2 (01:05:15):
But that explained it.
Speaker 18 (01:05:18):
This is a beautiful rin too.
Speaker 2 (01:05:19):
You hate to see any damage to it.
Speaker 12 (01:05:21):
About forty five hundred seats, gorgeous green seats.
Speaker 2 (01:05:26):
And women play in the WCCHA. Men play in the
Central Collegiate Hockey League. Base off, coming up to the
left side, Badgers with their number one unit out back
on the point. That's Jungles. Wonder how it feels for
Jungles not playing with Harvey at all for a change. Yeah,
(01:05:50):
coming over to try and pick it up. Here's Jungles
out on top, just inside the line, back in it
by Potter. Now they've switched around the defense of and
Potter paired defensively along with Murphy and Venusio and Harvey
and Edwards the pairings for tonight. You know, got a
couple of other defense on the team as well.
Speaker 12 (01:06:11):
You know, Jungles has got such a high hockey i
Q she can play with anybody. She can adjust to
whatever they pair up. You know what they bring to
the table.
Speaker 2 (01:06:20):
Badgers try to pinch and hold it in its one
to nothing to score Wisconsin. Look out, here's a potential
break moving it up ice coming in reflected wide by Sairchilds.
She had the breakaway there and covering up Ava McNaughton
making the save again.
Speaker 12 (01:06:38):
Yeah, Eva got the left pad on that breakaway point
Lake right down the slot there.
Speaker 18 (01:06:44):
You don't want to give up too many of those.
Speaker 2 (01:06:50):
Heard Mark talk in the pregame show about some of
the Badgers they're going to lose as team members in
the months the potentially of October, no December, January. Potential
candidates for the Olympic team coming off ice. It's going
to be played in over the line and Wisconsin down
(01:07:11):
in the corner. Layley Edwards would be one of those candidates.
Kirsten Simms would be won, but not for the United
States obviously. Ava McNaughton another one. And it's going to
be played coming back in over the line and whistle
and play is going to be stopped on the off
side call Edwards and Harvey.
Speaker 12 (01:07:30):
Potentially six players from our team could be yeah, for
the Olympics, And you know it's different this year. They
don't centralize the team, so they're leaving at intermittent times
here and.
Speaker 2 (01:07:42):
It'll impact us and Shapova. The Levova, Yeah, she probably
will be on the check team. Yeah she will. She'll
play for Cheshire and coming back over coming over trying
to control it back down. There's a shot taken away,
nice backhand and moving it back up ice controlling it
(01:08:04):
fourteen oh eight remedic in the period and the Badger's
turn scandal with it they had on the playover the
Garbatanco Garbatanco moving it in with a shot blocked, went
blatter the net and are you surprised it's only one
to nothing.
Speaker 12 (01:08:19):
I was thinking we'd have more than that on the
board by now, Paul. I mean we're seven minutes into
the second period and one zip. You know, but that's Famidgi,
you know.
Speaker 2 (01:08:30):
They never go away down in the corner on the
near side, played back of the net. Badgers have won
the last nineteen games between the two clubs and overall
have a demanding lead. They have won a total of
ninety eight and lost seven games, and five games have
ended in a time.
Speaker 12 (01:08:49):
Yeah, they Bmidgi makes you earn everything, and they got
a solid goaltender and net.
Speaker 2 (01:08:53):
And controlling it. Harvey trying to get the hat on
the pass and Edwards comes back to pick up for
the Badgers back in behind on the break over to Harvey,
Harvey lifting it out trying to clear the zone. Harvey
tried to pick it up and it's going to be
Harvey trying to tie up the Beaver there. They have
control of the puck. Back down to the Badger zone.
(01:09:15):
Here the interesting of Beavers scored and tied the game
at one one, wouldn't it?
Speaker 22 (01:09:20):
Oh?
Speaker 2 (01:09:20):
I tell you going back over is brave? Ray back
over to set it up. We have twelve forty eight
remitting here in the second period of play coming up
Ice controlling it along the boards on the far side
and it's dumped by Pekin' Hougan and back in behind
as Wisconsin trying to get control of the puck. It's
(01:09:43):
blocked off the body there of one of the Beavers.
That was Kaiser that's on the line with Smith and
Fairschild their number one unit played back down in the
corner trying to pin it against the wall there. The
Badgers with some pressure Raby McCarthy back to Bungles Jael's
with a drive shot by Pagan Hogman and a blocked
(01:10:05):
in front of the nets went in. Yep that they
pulled it out of there.
Speaker 19 (01:10:09):
Wow.
Speaker 2 (01:10:10):
Then going back over to try and control it and
back the whistle and we'll have an icing called.
Speaker 18 (01:10:15):
And uh oh that was a great shift there.
Speaker 12 (01:10:17):
I mean started with some great board checking by McCarthy
to get us possession of the puck and ended up
in a nice shot there by Peckenhagen right on the
doorstep but not to be.
Speaker 2 (01:10:28):
Wow, good shift by that group. Shapova Lava ready for
the face off for the Badgers. The draw to weeding
eating with a drive and it was blocked by the
goaltender along the boards on the near side. Over to
try and control it. Play down in the corner, trying
to move it right out in front. Badgers looked to
(01:10:50):
set it up, stems went short side in front shot block, Wow,
and the save is made. She got a couple of
opportunities there.
Speaker 12 (01:10:58):
Yeah, got her own rebound like that line of sims
along with Eden and and Ova. Yeah, I'm liking that one.
Speaker 2 (01:11:07):
What do you like about it?
Speaker 12 (01:11:08):
I mean, well, they're creating good chances, you know, they're
getting the puck to the net, and I just seeing
Sims shoot it a little bit more, which she was
hesitant for some reason at the beginning, but starting to
get the puck on net and the Venustio back to
the blue line of the Badgers.
Speaker 2 (01:11:24):
Venusio and Murphy paired defensively. I had on the play Badgers.
Eden comes in over the line back and a backhand
or oh and trying to go from Shims, but the
play was cleared from in front of the net. Back
on the play, Sims with it, trying to lead it
through over to Whedon. Eden tried to carry it in
over the line. Badgers look to hold it in. Down
(01:11:46):
to eleven fifteen remaining in the second period here, and
it's going to be the Badgers down in the corner
on the near side, trying to control the puck play
along the boards on the near wing, Wisconsin with it
one to nothing, whether it as Sims back out on
top over to Abra Murphy, Well we get in shot out.
I want to go by the Badgers and it's Halson
(01:12:08):
who gets the goal?
Speaker 18 (01:12:09):
Was it Eden or Helberson?
Speaker 15 (01:12:11):
My Lacey Eden?
Speaker 12 (01:12:14):
The'll see, yeah, yeah, Lacey tapped it in from the
home wide side of.
Speaker 2 (01:12:19):
The after the Halberson drive.
Speaker 12 (01:12:22):
Yes, yeah, hell Helberson had a nice shot on net.
It went to the goaltenders right and there was Eden
to come down on her off wing and pop it
in left hander on the right side, bingo.
Speaker 18 (01:12:34):
Goal number two.
Speaker 2 (01:12:35):
Nine oh four of the time of the period. Wow,
good to see that. Paul comes back over to control it.
They gave it to Kirsten Simms. Really, that's what it's
got listed right here. Goal by Wisconsin Kirsten Sims, assist
(01:12:58):
by Lacey Eden. That was weird thought Eden put it in.
Speaker 12 (01:13:12):
I think they want to give all the goals to
Sims Paul last year and this year they she scored
them all.
Speaker 2 (01:13:16):
Huh. I missed that one, to be honest with you,
I totally missed it.
Speaker 18 (01:13:19):
I thought it was clear cut. Yeah, so did I
I really did.
Speaker 2 (01:13:25):
Comes back in of the line. Here's Leila Edwards with it.
Laylah back in and Cassie Hall with a dry and
to play back down on the corner of the near side.
Comes back over to pick it up. Man Wisconsin leading
it two to nothing in the game, and it comes
back over Lailea Edwards. We'll drive it back down in
the corner and whistle and play is going to be stopped.
(01:13:46):
We're going to take a break. This is Wisconsin Badger
women's hockey. When you were a loved one could use

shot a goal at the beaver score and they railing
(01:14:31):
two to one in the game. A shot from the
point and they've come back and cut the bad laeve.
That goal comes at ten o four of the period.
Speaker 12 (01:14:50):
Wow, from the top of the circle on the left
wing beat McNaughton on the longside.
Speaker 18 (01:14:59):
I don't think she we saw the puck. I'm not
sure there was some traffic in front of her.
Speaker 2 (01:15:05):
So we've had a couple of goals here in the
second period. Eden did get that last goal for the Badgers.
Durst and Simms had the first one, and Eden got
the first goal for her on the season and Murphy
got the assist. Wow, coming back over to set it
up and control it, and it's going to be played
(01:15:27):
along the boards on the far side. We have ninety
nine remaining in the second period. Here, it's going to
be dumped back down to the corner, goes in behind.
Whistle had an icingle Bee call man.
Speaker 12 (01:15:39):
So it's scores, you know, it's a one goal game, Paul.
Halfway into the second period, we got a contest in
our hands. We got the shot advantage, but only lead
by one.
Speaker 2 (01:15:51):
In the goals. Cameron Bray got the goal for and
there's a drive and it's going to be blocked in front.
Nine five remaining in the period. Then it's going to
be played back down in the corner and controlling it,
(01:16:15):
coming up ice with it, and it's going to be
played back down in the corner, coming to the point
on the near side, back over to try and pick
it up, playing it on the wings and trying to
control it. Puck comes loose in the neutral zone in
a two to one game, and it's going to be
dumped back in on Aba McNaughten watching it go by
(01:16:36):
back over to Potter, Potter turn trying to bring it
up Ice to play, Vivian Jungles trying to move it in,
trying to get it toward the net. Good pressure there
by Cooper and coming up Ice controlling it. Played to
the blue line. Then it's going to be turned back,
coming back into the Wisconsin line and with it that
is Sanders Sanders back down in the corner. They look
(01:17:00):
to try and send it right out in front, cleared
from in front of the goal, read by Jungles and
comeing up Ice coming back into the line, controlling it.
Here's a drop on the pass. McCarthy with it, lost
control of it and turning and coming back with it
is Sandberg will play it back down to the corner
and Wisconsin try to work it out of their own zone.
(01:17:21):

Aba McNaughton steered that wand of the goal back in
behind Wisconsin turning they try to work it out of
the zone and controlling it. His Venusio Venusio will play
it back down in the corner, back in behind the goal,
(01:17:42):
around on the far side over the try and pick
it up. Gettle there, gett to looking to try and
bring it out of the zone. On the play, Armstrong
look to center it toward the slot. Comes back to
Ava Murphy at center right. Ava Murphy back over the

Speaker 2 (01:19:42):
You ready for the face off coming up outside the
beaver blue line here and with it is KK Harvey.
Back to the point on the play over the Kirsten Sims.
Kirsten Sims lost control of the fuck the Beaver's trying
to control it. Laylay outwards going back Wisconsin's heart be
quickly skating back of it to pick it up, slides
(01:20:03):
it around over the Leyla Edwards Edwards with it comes
to the blue line of the Beavers with down in
the corner, works her way around the goal back out
to Harvey with a drive and it was blocked. Steered
wad of the neat light around on the far side
over to try and control it. Harvey boards rolls in
behind the net. Badger's at full strength along with Bamidge
(01:20:25):
state it's six point fifty four remitting in the second
period shot right on from out in front, there's a
back ender and Wisconsin with pressure eating with the opportunity
there around on the far side Badgers and Edwards with
a drive comes around back of the Harvey, Harvey controlling it.
(01:20:45):
Twenty four to nine in shots two to one is
the score. Here's Harvey moving it in covering up in
the save is made nice drive to the net. Harvey epp.
You know Paul with.
Speaker 12 (01:20:57):
Leila Edwards on d you know she's such an imp
had clear Like Mark was saying earlier in the interview,
it was nice to see your release a hard shot
from the point, you know, like go ahead and shoot
the puck regardless of whether you're a fourward or d.
Speaker 2 (01:21:09):
Put it on net. Layla is capable of that. And
we've got hauled out with Scannal and Gorbatanco for the
Badgers twenty seven to nine and shots two to won
the lead for the Badgers. And here's scandal with it
and Clay is going to be stopped at the blue line.
It's Maggie Scannal was the line off side. We'll have
(01:21:30):
the face off coming up. Yeah, Gorbo couldn't get out
of the zone suit quick enough. So Kelly Garbatanco on
the left side along with Cassie Hall out of south
Floyd Michigan at center and on the right side is
Maggie Scannal plaid back down, going back over to set
it up now. Macuba comes around on the far side
(01:21:51):
for Bamigi State Badgers with pressure look to hold it
in down in the corner. It's Garbatanco moving at end
toward the slot of the backhanders. Steered one of the
net off. The stick of Hall comes back of the potter.
Potter trying to give it to Scannal to give it
to Hall behind the net, Bole and trying to stuff
a shot and tall. They stuff it on the short
(01:22:12):
side and the Badgers take a three to one lead
with a nice effort there. What a great play. Scannel
and their linemates convert on the opportunity.
Speaker 12 (01:22:22):
I think it was Cassie Hall or they have a
tako slid it from behind the net to uh you know,
Scanal right there in front of the grease bingle goal
number three for the night. Great job by Scandal. We
got to keep going, Paul. We need more, We need more.
First goal of the ear for Scandal at fourteen oh nine.
(01:22:45):
All of the goals have been even strength. Here and
the face off the Badgers with a three to one
lead back in behind the at around the boards on
the far side, over to try and pick it up,
and they'll play it back down.
Speaker 2 (01:22:58):
In the corner. Five five remitting in the period. Wisconsin
in their own zone will turn and work it out
on the lead and it comes along the boards on
the far side that you don't mind in the bar
of the.
Speaker 19 (01:23:13):
Second period, Wisconsin called the sport light number fourteen.
Speaker 2 (01:23:16):
Stannell does get the goal, then Hall got a s
potter and Hall get the assists on the goal. So
Wisconsin now with a little cushion of two goals here
with five oh three remitting in the period.
Speaker 18 (01:23:34):
Oh man, let's see a shot on net here.
Speaker 2 (01:23:37):
And Venusio held up at the point on the right side.
Badger's over to try and pick it up and turning
coming up ice with it coming back into the line.
This is Cooper breaking to the net. They tried to
lead it through traffic leaper and Wisconsin turns that away.
It comes all the way back out over the center ice,
(01:23:57):
but Midgie state trolling controls it. Dan coming back into
the line with it as Cooper down in the corner.
Hooper is tied up along the boards or pardon me,
that was Smith who was tied up along the board.
Smith down to the corner trying to control it. Twenty
eight to nine and shot so far in the game
around the boards on the far side. Eden turns and
(01:24:18):
brings it out and coming back into the line trying
to break to the net. Kirsten Sims and Eden with
a drive went wide in the net. Badgers have that
number one line out of sim Yeah, they're moving the
puck well and Edwards comes around over the Harvey Harvey
looking for help, trying to skate it down in the corner.
(01:24:39):
Edwards at the point fired a shot and was tipped
out in front. Good pressure by the Badgers in front
of the net. Here around on the far side of
her to control it. Here's Kirsten Sims moving it in shot.
He's play wow to save man and that's saved against
Tall and she turned that a wave sims with a
beautiful pass yep coming up Ice trying to control it.
(01:25:03):
Badger's turn and try to bring it out of the zone.
Harvey with it on the rush. Harvey comes in over
the line, works in on the wing, gives it off
on the plate down to the corner back of the
hall in behind the nep All skates around over to
set it up down to the corner on the right side,
back over the scannal scandal with it works their way,
loose pulls up, comes around over to Harvey on the
(01:25:25):
near wing, Harvey moving it in. Harvey looking for the
outlet on the pass in front hall is there in
front of it? Tip? Oh yeah, flew into the net
on the tap. Trickled up over dropped into the net.
You know, Paul, there's a new rule this year.
Speaker 12 (01:25:44):
I think Gorbatenko was awarded the goal if I'm not mistaken.
There's a new rule in the whah you can score
a goal with your stick at any height.
Speaker 2 (01:25:57):
You know that she's a pretty good height, yeah, to
be got pretty good high.
Speaker 12 (01:26:02):
Yeah, but I mean it used to be you know,
net high four foot high or whatever.
Speaker 2 (01:26:06):
They have it listed with goal by Caroline Harvey. All
they do unassisted by Harvey. What is listed now, we'll
see if that changes. Two fifty two remitting in the
period and going back over to pick it up. Boy,
there's been some unusual goals. Yes, game, isn't there? Yes,
there has been round down to the corner on the
(01:26:28):
far side of it to pick it up for to one.
Wisconsin they're leading in shots thirty one to nine, comes
around and going back over to pick it up, and
Wisconsin will turn and work it up ice. Great jab
by in right block shot and then takes it down
the other way and coming back over to try and
control it. I've got a couple of players tied up
back at the other end of the ice as the
(01:26:50):
Beavers work it in back man, I keep say by Marvin,
here's a potential break moving it up ice Badgers. Scannell
coming over the line with Sims shotting a goal. She
ripped it into the upper corner of the net. Sims
gets her second of the night and the Badgers laid
it five to one. Wow.
Speaker 12 (01:27:12):
You know that was followed by a great sea by
McNaughton on the far ind They had a bomb on
the off wing there and we bring it up and
Sims puts it in for a goal.
Speaker 18 (01:27:21):
You gotta love that. Gotta love that.
Speaker 2 (01:27:25):
They don't even turn on the red light when you
score it.
Speaker 12 (01:27:28):
No, no, I don't know if they're saving electricity, Paul,
or what's the deal there?
Speaker 18 (01:27:32):
Maybe don't give you.
Speaker 2 (01:27:33):
They have not given you the indication on the goals.
Speaker 12 (01:27:36):
Maybe that was damaged from all that bad weather in
the rain they got into the building.
Speaker 19 (01:27:40):
You never know.
Speaker 2 (01:27:41):
At around on the far side, two minutes remaining in
the period five to one, score had to moving it
back into the line controlling it. Dan, here's a back
ender taken wide, took that shot. You can see where
she has ability or oh.
Speaker 12 (01:27:59):
Yeah he's not very big, but no, she's I'll still
go right into the wall there with people and battle with.
Speaker 2 (01:28:05):
The pucker and right out in front along with Sims. Yep,
Stapova Lvova for around on the far side, comes back
to the point on the near back over to Whedon.
Here's Eden with it trying to go back. Drive over
to Sims and it's going to be held in by Potter.
Good effort by Potter and coming up ice controlling get
(01:28:27):
five one Wisconsin now and sap Ova Laivova on the
lead pass comes in over the line, Potter with a
drive for around on the far side, play along the boards,
trying to control it. One minute remaining in the period
and coming up Ice trying to control it in the
neutral zone. It's going to be Ava Murphy blocking that,
(01:28:50):
and Ava comes back in over the line of the
Beavers and in front door. But Tanko was there, scandal
is there for around boards on the play back out
on top over to Harvey. Harvey tried to work through.
Speaker 18 (01:29:04):
Toler almost look at her come back hard.
Speaker 2 (01:29:07):
Oh my gosh, I'm trying to pick it up around
down in the corner. Thirty two seconds for metic of
the period that around the boards on the far side.
Badgers look to pick it up in a rush. Wisconsin
comes in over the line, Cassie Hall shot to the gas.
Cassie Hall rips it into the corner of the nap
(01:29:28):
Man with nineteen point three seconds left. She just ripped it.
Speaker 12 (01:29:33):
Man, what a nice shot and the goal by Oh
my gosh, Cassie Hall. Wow, what a great shot. Yet
lay right up to the end of the period, right, Paul, Yeah,
there you go man oh Man nineteen forty one the
(01:29:59):
time of the goal around the boards on the far
six to one.
Speaker 2 (01:30:04):
Now here in the score. In the second period, Badgers
opened it up. Here in the second period, here comes
Harvey and over the line, moving it in. Oh lost
it on the backhand, almost got one and at the
point on the right side there's a drive and it's
going to be the end of the period. Thoughts on
this one, this one looked a little better.
Speaker 12 (01:30:25):
Well, I tell you there was a lot more action.
We're moving the puck better. I think there's more intensity
going after the puck on the wall. You know, they're
not having two players to our one. We're even number
or outnumbering them along the wall in the fifty to
fifty battles.
Speaker 2 (01:30:39):
And I like it. So we're going to take a break.
This second period has been sponsored by Fields Madison, your

tip to stick a. Hall comes back to the potter.
Potter trying to give it to Scannal to give it
to Hall behind the net hoole and trying to stuff it.
Shot at Fell. They stuff it on the short side
and the Badgers take a three to one lead. With
(01:31:36):
a nice effort there, what a great play channel in
their linemates convert on the opportunity scannel with it works
their way. Loose pulls up comes around over to Harvey
on the near wing. Harvey, will we get in Harvey
looking for the output on the pass in front. Hall
is there in front with tip. Yeah, flew into the
(01:32:00):

Here's a potential break. Blow it to that bike. Badgers.
Scannals come it over the line with Sims. Sims shot
in the goal. She ripped it in the upper corner
of the NAT. Sims gets her second of the night.
Wisconsin comes in over the line. Cassie Hall shot time

the napp Man with nineteen point three seconds left.
Speaker 5 (01:32:27):
She just ripped it from the ten seventy the game

Speaker 19 (01:32:33):
Period number two has finished in BAMIDGI Badgers six Bamidgie
State one. First half of the second period was a
little slow, a little bit again to more of that
finding of the feet, finding of your teammates, passing the puck,
making sure you get set up. So midway through the
period both team exchange scers made it exchange goals made
(01:32:53):
it two to one. After that the Badgers turned the
puck on the edge and started finding the back of
the four more goals to close out the period, and

After two periods at Bimidgie, It's Wisconsin six Bimigee State one.
The football Badgers have a bye this week and return
next Saturday at Michigan. Coverage begins over on thirteen ten
at seven am, kick off at eleven on thirteen to
ten WIBA, but there's plenty of other Badgers teams in action.
But first we'll go back to the rank for Paul
(01:35:57):
Brown interviewing Jake Ross, communicatations director of Badger's Hockey.
Speaker 2 (01:36:04):
And we are live back at the home of the
Beavers here at Sandford Center, and Jake Ross is the
new communications manager director for Wisconsin Women's hockey and golf.
And AJ Harrison was with the program, I think Jake
for about five six years and they moved him to
(01:36:24):
Badger Basketball, which quite frankly for AJ is a very
nice move, well deserved, and we wish him well. But
it's nice to have you on board and quickly, how's
it going. It's an initial thing for you and that
kind of thing, and you're starting with a team that
a lot of people expect to do very well this year. Yeah,
(01:36:44):
and they definitely proved that right away. They've put me to.
Speaker 29 (01:36:46):
Work in my very first game that last period, scoring
five goals. But it's been great so far. A team
has been super accommodating. It's awesome working with all these
girls and coaches and you know, they know what they're
doing and makes my job really easy, you know, coming
up with storylines and stuff to talk about with them.
Speaker 2 (01:37:04):
And when you come up with storylines. Tell me a
little bit about social media today is really the big thing?
Is it really?
Speaker 27 (01:37:12):
Is it not?
Speaker 2 (01:37:13):
And from your perspective in dealing with social media and
Badger Women's Hockey, give us a picture of everything that's involved, JAG. Yeah.
Speaker 29 (01:37:21):
Well, I mean, obviously you kind of break it into
two different categories. You have all of your game day
stuff that you've got to post information that people can
follow along. We have links to like our radio here
where they can follow along, So we'll post all that
stuff and make sure we're posting goals and stuff.
Speaker 2 (01:37:38):
The more interesting stuff is.
Speaker 29 (01:37:39):
Kind of when you get outside of that game day
picture and you're kind of coming up with more fun,
creative content that gives audience members and fans like a
good sense of what the team is like personality wise.
So you like to bounce off the girls a lot,
see you know, the kind of content that they're making
on their own social platforms, and you know, we like
(01:38:01):
to follow along.
Speaker 2 (01:38:01):
We like to keep it fun.
Speaker 29 (01:38:02):
We like to you know, our brand is also you know,
very successful, and we like to play up on that
and a lot of our milestones and you know, the
larger Badger network and the alumni that we have to,
and we love celebrating them, so there's really is plenty
to go with.
Speaker 2 (01:38:19):
You get to feel too that some of the gals
are really they love doing stuff right. Yeah, I'm obviously
there are others that are maybe a little bit more quiet,
but overall they're a very friendly and outgoing group and
they seem to get along really well.
Speaker 29 (01:38:35):
Huh yeah, for sure, And like you can see that
totally when it comes to our content too. They're so
easy to work with and they're so willing to pitch ideas.
One of the stuff that we've been doing the last
few years is stick taping Squad where we get a
little fun video of pregame of Ava Murphy, Hannah Halverson,
(01:38:56):
Lady Potter and Leila Edwards.
Speaker 2 (01:38:57):
That's what it's been the last two years.
Speaker 29 (01:38:59):
Now, let me get a little fun video on the
bench about two hours before for the game with some
sort of you know, pun related comment about the opposing team,
and it's just a fun little video that you know,
keeps things consistent and it keeps within the routine, but
it also gives the players a chance to throw out
some fun ideas for the fans.
Speaker 2 (01:39:18):
But yet at the same token, uh, you get a
lot of I'm sure you're going through all the season,
get a lot of different requests because of the success
of the program and the quality of this team, and
then of course with the whole Olympic thing come a up.
Speaker 29 (01:39:33):
Uh huh.
Speaker 2 (01:39:33):
Yeah, for sure.
Speaker 29 (01:39:34):
One of my jobs also is managing the media and
you know, facilitating requests and interviews for all the players
and coaches, and you know, this year is definitely I
you know, it's only my first year, but I think
I can say that this year is going to be
a little busier with that, knowing that we have those
Olympians and but that's part of the job and that's
what we want to do. We want to you know,
(01:39:55):
push our team as much as we can, and we
want to spread it to outlets as far as we
can as well.
Speaker 2 (01:40:01):
Jake, congratulations and look forward to working with you. Take care.
I'll let you go back to work. Thank you, Paul,
take care, and we'll throw it back to Brad at
the studios and I think he's got a badger update
on other sports that are going to be taken care
of and in progress this weekend.
Speaker 5 (01:40:21):
Thanks Paul.
Speaker 19 (01:40:22):
Yeah, thanks Jake for joining the joining us during the
intermission as we talk about the best things of Badgers
hockey again Badgers six BAMIJI State one. Here's Nick Brucewetz

native was born John Chapman in seventeen seventy four, and
over the course of his life he gained notoriety as
a kind man who planted apple seeds wherever he went
across parts of the East and Midwest, but also dispensed
wisdom to the many strangers he met on his journeys.
(01:43:33):
The legend of Johnny Appleseed lives on during the fall
when apples are plentiful. Pennsylvania l has claim to having
the first orchard Johnny Appleseed planted, while Mansfield, Ohio has
a monument to the man. Also on this date, in
nineteen sixty, Fidel Castro of Cuba gives the longest speech
by a head of state at the UN General Assembly
of nearly four and a half hours, and in twenty seventeen,
(01:43:55):
Saudi Arabia becomes the final country in the world to
overturn a ban on women driving. If it's your birthday today,
you shared it with American poet and Nobel laureate Ts
Eliott born in eighteen eighty eight. I'm too, Sharsaksina, and
that's your Fox daily stack shot.
Speaker 2 (01:44:14):
The officials are coming back out onto the ice here
at the Sandford Center on the campus of Bamigie State
University in Bamegie, Minnesota, where after two periods of play,
the Wisconsin Badgers have a six to one lead. They
lead in shots thirty four to ten in the game
so far, and they have a total of six goals
(01:44:38):
up on the board, one for the Beavers. Kirsten Simms
has a couple of goals tonight. Eden has won, Scannal
has one, Cassy Hall has won, and Kak Harvey has
a goal here today. All of those goals even strength.
There has not been a penalty called in the game
(01:45:00):
at this point. So the Badgers, after only leading one
to nothing at the end of the first period, kind
of opened it up in the second period of play,
and hopefully that will continue here in the third period.
The same two teams will play again tomorrow, and we
hope you'll join us on ten seventy of the game
(01:45:24):
and game time coverage. Two forty five face off at
three o'clock tomorrow, and the Badgers will be returning to
Madison after the game tomorrow afternoon. They'll get home late
in the afternoon or early evening. Came up on a
charter and get to go home. And that's kind of
(01:45:45):
a good thing, Greenie, getting on that charter and going
back home.
Speaker 12 (01:45:50):
That it's a quick turn, you know, game series. You
get up here and back pretty quickly.
Speaker 2 (01:45:56):
Mark Johnson said, see the water looks nice up here.
You go, so all I've ever seen is ice and
snow and almost he talks about the walleye. There's a
walleye at every meal, isn't.
Speaker 12 (01:46:07):
There every I've had it for every meal and it
doesn't get old. It's just delicious. Every time they've got
it down path, we'll.
Speaker 2 (01:46:14):
Have the face off coming up. The badger's moving from
left to right here in the third period, ready for
the face off to come up.
Speaker 18 (01:46:27):
Saple wins it. You're gonna you're gonna call her Sapple.
Speaker 12 (01:46:32):
I'll butcher your name. Sample vella is just too much
for me, Paul. And coming through center is it's gonna
be played back? They try to lead it through on
the break.
Speaker 2 (01:46:42):
Badger's back in their own zone over to pick it up,
and they'll turn and try to come out of the
zone and it comes rink one on the near side
over to pick it up. Wisconsin's Leyley Edwards with it
often to play over to Harvey. Harvey on the rush
comes in over the line. She does it in a
hurry back to the went on the play over the
sims down in the corner. They try to set it
(01:47:04):
up and they got a badger going down on the
play comes back all the way back in the zone
as Leila Edwards goes back of it to pick it up.
Leila skating up Ice on the rush, carries it, comes
in over the line, controls it, lost control of it
as she tried to go to the nat as Bray
forced her wide on the player and it's going to
(01:47:26):
be back aded by Gettle out on the break. They
come in over the Wisconsin line, Johnson with it, Johnson
down in the corner. Badgers play it behind the net
through out of the far side, Wisconsin turning trying to
set it up. Kirsten Simms with a couple of goals
in the game, and they'll move it. Kirsten got two
(01:47:47):
goals here tonight, including the first one of the year
for the Badgers. She could have a big year.
Speaker 22 (01:47:52):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:47:54):
She picked as one of the preseason All WCCHA team members.
Had a lot of points the last couple of years.
Kirsten Simms for the Badgers.
Speaker 12 (01:48:06):
You know, she's got two goals Earny today and you
kind of take it for granted, but she's just really good.
You know, she's so skilled, she's got the ideal set
of hands, and she's interesting.
Speaker 2 (01:48:17):
To watch round the rink. In terms of her pre game, Yeah,
she's very serious. Some of the gals are kind of happy,
go lucky. They kid one another, they shoot baskets, they
bounce balls, they play and she's really focused. She kind
of dials it in. Yeah, she does. Around the far side,
(01:48:37):
play back in behind the net, around in behind Badger's
turn and try to bring it out on the far boards.
In this six to one game, Garba Tanko coming in
over the line, breaking to the net. Good idea, trying
to lead it through with scannal scannal and scored. Here
Badger's potter with it. Potter along the boards on the
(01:48:58):
near side. Lady, she's out of Cranberry Township, Pennsylvania for
the Badgers. Shot into the glove of Ava McNaughten who
made the save. There's ten up on the board on
shots on goal, got nine saves four thirty four on
the other side for the Badgers.
Speaker 12 (01:49:21):
Yeah, she's been busy. On the other end there a
grocer has that's a lot of a lot of shots
on net.
Speaker 2 (01:49:32):
Back around the boards on the near side. Wisconsin will
turn trying to lead it out and it was played
along the boards. Chapel the lay Bova blocked that one
and around the boards on the far side, try to
get control of it. And the puck is loose back
over to c coming back in over the line, controlling
(01:49:53):
it laid back down in the corner. Badgers and trying
to pick it up, bang it around the boards, trying
to bring it out over to one right. Look at
that man comeing up Ice. Here's Percard coming in over
the line. Per Card and put a move on a
Ronald the far side. Badgers look to try and control
the play. Halberson was out along on that play. Wisconsin
(01:50:14):
in the neutral zone over to pick it up. They'll
dump it back down in behind back going over to
set it up sixteen fifty remitting Wisconsin. There's McCarthy holding it.
They move it in, try to go in shotting the goal.
Another freshman, oh man Pekin Hogan. Yes, the goal, and
(01:50:34):
it's her first for the Wisconsin Badgers, and it's now
a seven to one game here.
Speaker 12 (01:50:42):
You know, it was great Paul obviously seeing Charlotte Peckenhagen
get her first goal of the year. But a nice
shot put on net by Finley McCarthy from the left
circle there or the left wing, almost inside the hash marks,
and you know Peckenhagen was there for the rebound ends
up in the net.
Speaker 2 (01:51:01):
Great play and going over to set it up and
control Badger's turn with it. Zillish comes back into the
line trying to control it. McCarthy over to try and
pick it up and the play comes back over to
the point and trying to move it in. There's a
shot and it's going to be blocked. Wisconsin over around
on the far side over to pick it up. There's
(01:51:22):
a got fired wide as McCarthy fired it.
Speaker 12 (01:51:28):
I like her shooting the puck, Paul McCarthy, Yeah, it's
good to see her put it on net.
Speaker 2 (01:51:37):
And coming back over and it's going to be played
back down on the corner on the far side. Wisconsin
moving it in off in the drive there got by
Egan right on and the play comes around the boards
on the far side fifteen fifty remitting in the period
and chasing it as Harvey Harvey back in behind the
(01:51:57):
head around on the far side. Harvey on the rush
moves it ahead on the play over to Eden and
the fuck comes all the way back over to try
and pick it up in the neutral zone and skating
back over his Layla edwards to control it. Laylah back
Simms went down. There's a shot a goal man that
was scored by Johnson put.
Speaker 9 (01:52:24):
Man.
Speaker 2 (01:52:24):
It's seven to two games.
Speaker 12 (01:52:28):
You know, I hate not throwing anybody under the bus,
but you don't want to stick handle right in front
of your own net when you're getting four checked. And
that's why that play originated. Sure enough, they ended up
Beavers with possession. They get a shot just inside the
pipe on the blocker side for their second.
Speaker 2 (01:52:45):
Goal of the night. Yeah, here we go. Badgers had
a couple of assists on their last goal. McCarthy and
Finley got assists on that last goal for the Badgers,
and it's a seven to two game now. The Badgers
(01:53:05):
out in front, laid back down in behind fifteen oh
five remaining in the period, around the boards on the
near side, coming over to try and pick it up
and turning, turning, trying to bring it out towards center ice,
and it's control coming over to We're at fourteen fifty
(01:53:25):
remitting in the period and Badgers with a five goal lead.
There's a shot kicked out by Ava McNaughton around down
in the corner, back in behind the app over to
try and pick it up and control it, and the
puck has moved through center ice, played down deep in
the zone whistle and we'll have an icing car. Badger's
(01:53:48):
getting a lot of different people scoring or assisting on
goals tonight.
Speaker 18 (01:53:55):
It's a good opportunity to just develop that depth. We're
going to need it this season when we have.
Speaker 2 (01:54:00):
Absences with those Olympics players and coming over to trying
to control it back to the point on the near side.
Shot went in behind the that around on the far side,
Wisconsin trying to control it. They'll come up ice puck
in the neutral zone, back over to control it, played
(01:54:20):
back down in the corner, chasing it down seven to two,
Wisconsin thirty eight to twelve in shots. There was one
nothing after one and then the Badgers opened it up
in the second and both teams have got a goal
here so far in the third and play back along
on the near boards over to try and control it.
(01:54:41):
And this is for Card. With it back can get
down whoa. Well, you look at the way the Badgers
passed the puck. They do it very fluently, very quick,
got a lot of speed, played back down in the corner,
coming out of the zone and the breakout venusio on
(01:55:02):
the lead Percard trying to skate it down per Card
goes down coming over to help out Badger's n right
then right in Halverson out on the line, Elverson trying
to skate it down back in behind the At. Great
coucheck right there by en right on the play over
to Halverson. Halverson and then right worked the corner. They
(01:55:24):
trying to come back to the point on the play
and the puck goes back in behind the At. Then
it's going to be picked up by Strump and they'll
work it up ice and they'll backhand it through the
neutral zone. Twelve fifty five remaining here in the third
period of play. Whistle and action's going to be stopped
(01:55:47):
at the blue line of Wisconsin.
Speaker 18 (01:55:50):
Off sides from Midgie State have a draw on the
neutral zone.
Speaker 2 (01:55:54):
Air pull for Johnson, the second of the night for
the Midge.
Speaker 12 (01:55:59):
And uh, I'm getting greedy. I wish they didn't score
any goals, you know what I mean. I hate to
see that, but well, you're the goaltending poach.
Speaker 2 (01:56:07):
That two's enough, huh, Right, there's plenty and coming around
to the far souk along the boards on the near side,
and it's going to be played all the way back
down to the zone. But Harvey strides back over to
pick it up and Wisconsin Armstrong and Harvey look at
that passed through on the plate to McCarthy right in
(01:56:29):
the money on. Harvey fired that about two thirds the
length of the ice right to her stick yep around
of the far side. Badgers look to try and hold
the zone where twelve ohs three remeding in the period
man Wisconsin holding the zone, moving it in, shot right
on and the save is made and they stopped the
(01:56:50):
action there Ova with the drive right on. What do
you think of her so far? What do you see?
I'm impressed.
Speaker 12 (01:57:02):
I wondered, you know, she's not very big, and I
wondered if that would affect her play at all in
this league, and then it doesn't at all. So no,
she's impressive. She wins a lot of most Audrey face off.
She just won that one. She's not afraid to go
to the in front of the net or you know,
the greasy spots back along the wall.
Speaker 18 (01:57:22):
You know, she didn't let her size deter from playing aggressively.
Speaker 2 (01:57:27):
And jungles back over to try and control it, Wisconsin
moving it around eleven thirty two, remitting in the period.
Badger's up by a score of seven to two, thirty
nine to twelve in shots going back over as Comstock
around the boards on the far side and Headen picks
it up, Aiden with it along the back wall. Badgers
(01:57:50):
have that number one unit out there, Yeah, doing their
best keeping the zone and it's working and moving it around.
Yet by Eden gets the upper corner of the net,
her second goal of the night, and the Badgers score
and it's an eight to two game Wisconsin out in front.
Speaker 12 (01:58:14):
What a great goal by Eden, taken from kind of
the lower slot on the right side, slightly forehand, just
up over the glove of that goaltender. Gross, No way
she's going to get that one coming off of Eden
stick single.
Speaker 2 (01:58:31):
I can't believe they don't even put on the light
for the bad at all. Yeah, not even the light,
let horn, no nothing. And then when the horn was
going like crazy coming back in over the line, they
play down on the corner on the far side and
Ava Murphy with it back over to Garbatanco. Garbatanco on
the wrap around, turned and fired the boy. She got
(01:58:53):
a rip shot there, Yeah, a little high, but good idea. Yep.
Ten forty three remaining in the period round the far
side over the Cassie Hall and it goes back to
the point of the play back in behind that trying
to control it along the boards on the near side.
Badgers with a six goal lead, now eight to two. Here.
Speaker 12 (01:59:18):
You know that goal of Eden's was just a result
of our great pressive ford checking. We just did not
allow the bars to get the puck out of the zone. Oh,
almost hit another one here, and Adella got her first
assist on that goal. There's moving it int the goal
by Scandal.
Speaker 2 (01:59:35):
What a shot. Scannel ripped that one into the net
as well, her second of the game, and the Badgers
now lead at twow.
Speaker 12 (01:59:44):
They have put up nine on the board right now.
What a hard shot from Scandal right from the mid slot.
She's a right winger and she just ripped that puck
in the net. No way GROLs is going to get
that one.
Speaker 8 (01:59:58):
Wow.
Speaker 2 (01:59:59):
Three players with two goals apiece. Man, You've got Kirsten
Simms with two, You've got Eaten with two, and you
got Scandal with two.
Speaker 32 (02:00:09):
Yeah.
Speaker 18 (02:00:09):
That's that's some production there, huh.
Speaker 2 (02:00:12):
Amen. And it's going to be played around on the
far side, back over to try and pick it up.
Nine minutes and fifty seconds for mening here in the
third period. Yeah, Wisconsin over to try and control it.
They try to work it through center ice. Got to
be played back down on the corner. We're going to
take a break. This is Wisconsin Badger Women's hockey.

Duck coom way down in the corner on the near side,
comes back over to Layley outterwards around on the far side,
over to pick it up and play along on the boards,
controlling it down to the corner. Nine fourteen remitting here
in the third period of play, the Badgers with the
(02:01:24):
lead coming back in over the line. Here's Harvey whoops
and the Harvey pass and Nintennefer Halverson and went down.
She must have a skeet guard on or something.
Speaker 1 (02:01:33):
Paul.
Speaker 18 (02:01:34):
She took his bilder out of the clear blue. There's
Harvey with it.
Speaker 2 (02:01:37):
Harvey working at ahead on the pass, works it out
over to center Ice, throaded it through to McCarthy out
in Wisconsin. Alverson around on the far side. Badgers give
it the Potter. Potter with it on the break, comes
towards center Ice. Badgers on the verge of getting double
(02:01:59):
figures here and goals in game one of the year.
Speaker 12 (02:02:02):
Let's see if McCarthy can get one here. She battles
for the puck below the goal line.
Speaker 2 (02:02:07):
And coming back over to pick it up and play
down deep in the zone in the corner, back in
behind the Badger net. Wisconsin over to try and control
another Badger went down the neutral zone that was Potter
away from the play. Yeah, eight o nine remaining here
in the period, shots are forty one to twelve in
(02:02:29):
the game, Badgers work it up Ice controlling it, played
back to Potter trying to chase it down in the corner,
back in behind the net, and the Beavers try to
work it out of the zone. Their first official game
of the year. They did play a schedule or a
scrimmage against the Gophers, as she said, and we'll have

Yeah.
Speaker 12 (02:04:59):
Usually the men start about a week or two week Yeah,
two weeks behind us, one or two weeks later.
Speaker 2 (02:05:08):
Okay, next week at Lyndenwood, they opened the seas guts
all right. Hopefully they'll have a great year too. I
got about ten twelve new players. We understand, you know,
I really would love to see them have a bunch
of success this year. Face Off coming up ice and
Eiden comes in of the line trying to control it.
Here's Sims with it. The drop pass intended Trelila. That's
(02:05:31):
picked off back over to Ava Murphy who turned and
angled it off the boards, playing the neutral zone. With
six fifty four reminning in the period, it's going to
be played back into the line. Here's Kirsten Simms with it,
looking for the hat trick. Eden looking for the hat trick. Yeah,
they're both getting hungry, celebrating around the net. Right, you're
(02:05:51):
not going to get it. I'm going to get it.
I'm going to take that that thing to me. Here
they come back in over the line again, pulling it
up and get in shot block, rebound came loose. Yeah,
nice shot, and it's going to be played out towards
center ice. Six twenty five Remedican the period, hustling toward
the goal shot. Then it's gonna be blocked partially. Nice
(02:06:13):
hustle there, man oh man by Octager boy, that was
a nice play.
Speaker 18 (02:06:18):
There, Yeah, it was Eavea had to be ready for that.
Speaker 2 (02:06:22):
And coming up ice controlling it. Here's Cassie Hall coming
in over the line. Tried to put a move on
and go toward the slot. Scandal turns it away. Scandal
has got to tonight. Eden's got too. Kirsten Simms has
got to the movie Get Up Ice Controlling It and
the play back Door Batanko with it. What do you
(02:06:45):
think Badger coach Mark Johnson is going to say about
this game tonight? Well, you would be as I think
as summary it would be, he's gonna I don't know,
I think he's gonna stay.
Speaker 12 (02:06:55):
You know, there's some areas we can work on, uh,
moving the puck, even quicker back checking. I know he
was mentioned that before this third period and we've been
doing that more this third period.
Speaker 2 (02:07:07):
Five minutes, twenty five seconds for Manning coming up I ice.
Mark six hundred and sixty seven wins in his career. Yeah, wow,
more wins than any other coach in the history of
Wisconsin sports. How about that one.
Speaker 18 (02:07:23):
That's a huge stat to hang your head on.
Speaker 2 (02:07:26):
Huh. And you know how many he's lost, not many,
one hundred and twenty games, six hundred, six hundred and
sixty seven wins in addition to losses, yeah, in addition
to the total. Just his winning percentage is just bizarre,
you know.
Speaker 11 (02:07:43):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (02:07:43):
And he ranks eighth on all time coaches for men
or women's hockey in college oh Man crazy eighth championship.
Speaker 18 (02:07:52):
Yeah, and he's not done yet, and it's going to.
Speaker 2 (02:07:57):
Be played ahead on the far side, trying to move
it in around of the fireboards and play along on
the far side, played back down on the corner four
fifty remitting, and it's angled off the boards in Wisconsin,
will come back over to pick it up.
Speaker 12 (02:08:16):
Good back check by en right. See Bickett does with
the puck here in her own end. Pickett was the Bickett,
the extra attacker. They're allowed to dress twenty one per game.
Twenty four players came on the flight around on the
far side over to pick it up down on the
corner and to play in the neutral zone.
Speaker 2 (02:08:38):
Controls comes in over the line. Look out, they've got
a potential breakaway. Gettle there. I got a breakaway, but.
Speaker 18 (02:08:47):
We got to eliminate a few of the chances that
we give them.
Speaker 2 (02:08:49):
You know, I was just thinking the same thing we
talk about. They've given up a few well, and they've
been some high percentage shots. Yeah, breakaways and shots in
tight and the little slide three point fifty eight remitting
here in the third period. It's a nine to two
game here and Both teams will be at it again
tomorrow afternoon airtime coverage two forty five on ten seventy
(02:09:14):
of the game, and we'll have both teams here at
center ice ready for the face off. They don't draw
very well for the sport up here. You know, I'm
kind of surprised. Now.
Speaker 12 (02:09:31):
It's a great rink and it's a you know, it's
aport in this town.
Speaker 2 (02:09:36):
You know, the Magie is a ton of about five
foul or fifteen thousands that I understand in a student
population of about five erect played back down in the
corner here around on the far side, coming over to
pick it up. McCarthy trying to play ahead on the
pass three twenty two, remedting in the period. Badgers go
(02:09:59):
back and they'll come around of the break. Maine will
be in town next weekend for games at Lebon Arena, coding.
Speaker 18 (02:10:07):
A former badgery you bet a hall of famer at
that sports Hall of Fame, and.
Speaker 2 (02:10:13):
Around on the far side controlling it in the neutral zone,
back handed in over the line and whistle and play
is going to be stopped. Yeah, if you're just joining us.
Mark Greenhall last a couple of weeks ago went into
the Wisconsin Hockey Hall of Fame was inducted up in
Eagle River. You had a nice contingent of people there
(02:10:35):
for the event.
Speaker 12 (02:10:36):
Yeah, there were sure a lot of wonderful folks that
helped me get to that point.
Speaker 32 (02:10:40):
You know.
Speaker 2 (02:10:41):
And I had the privilege of doing the interview with you. Yeah.
That was front of the crowd, about one hundred and
seventy five people there. Yeah, I think it may have
been the biggest crowd they had. It was, they said,
Mark Mazolini and Carol Marshall, and there's another name out
of Madison. You bet. She did a lot of wonderful
(02:11:01):
things for many, many years, for a lot of kids
anywhere in the state. Three inductees in the Hall of
Fame and coming up Ice controlling it. It comes in
over the line and the puck is loose for it.
Kirsten Sims shot off the plane, went to corner. She
went for the corner man two twenty seven or emitting
in the period back over to set it up, coming
(02:11:26):
back comes in over the line, controlling it to Sim's
a little given go to Eden, back to Sims laid
back down on the corner on the near side. They
work well together. Don't they really do. Yep, there's a
shot blocked in the rebound, pops loose and it rolls
all the way back to cent her eyes. Leilay edwards
back of it to pick it up. Layla had a
(02:11:47):
cleared from her stick and Wisconsin trying to pick it up.
Harvey with it works the wing on the near side
and they sent her it away. Yeah.
Speaker 18 (02:11:58):
That was a good play there, right and right.
Speaker 2 (02:12:01):
Yeah, jeez, one for three remaining you had on the
break eating with it. We'll tip it down in the
corner and the Badgers are going to change up. We'll
have an icing call. Yeah. I had the letters. Most
of the inductees had a minimum of two or three
letters written about why they should be in the Hall
of Fame. You had sixteen people that wrote letters for him.
(02:12:25):
I was really impressive, except I had to read a ball. Yeah.
Speaker 12 (02:12:27):
I had to pay a lot of people call that,
you know. Yeah, well I'm very fortunate.
Speaker 2 (02:12:34):
Yeah. I like the one guy who called you a
galvanized rubber repellent. Yeah. As a goaltender, yeah, I had
to moving it up ice your's eating moving in for
the hat track.
Speaker 5 (02:12:52):
Maybe.
Speaker 2 (02:12:52):
Oh, that had a little light around the first side.
They were both there, weren't they. Yeah, yeah Sims or
yeah Simons.
Speaker 12 (02:13:01):
In the end they on going up ice, they get
a nose for the net, put it mildly and coming
back down on the corner.
Speaker 2 (02:13:07):
There Scannal, she's got two goals tonight. She really worked
her way up through last year to get to that.
Speaker 19 (02:13:14):
Boy.
Speaker 2 (02:13:14):
Now in the second line, I'll say, and she belongs there, Yeah,
I mean she's under round on the far side.
Speaker 18 (02:13:23):
We're going to get her a first penalty of the game.
Speaker 2 (02:13:27):
They call out with fifty two seconds for minting.
Speaker 9 (02:13:29):
In the game.
Speaker 2 (02:13:30):
Wow, who's going on the power playoffs for them? I
guess they are.
Speaker 12 (02:13:35):
Scannal's going to go to the box. I'm not sure
what it was, elbowing perhaps, I don't know. I saw
an indication of all officials.
Speaker 2 (02:13:42):
Takes away that game. No penalty, Yeah, penalty free game,
But nope, not tonight, going tomorrow. You know, Oh boy,
oh boy. Nine to two, Wisconsin forty two to fifteen
and shots, three different players with two goals and three
other players with one each. Tonight Badgers are going to
(02:14:05):
win their first game of the year. They're twentieth in
a row against Bmidge State and Wisconsin hopefully can complete
the sweep here tomorrow afternoon. Man, it's played down in
the corner, going back in behind the nap. They're keeping
possession of that puck. That's with a power play here.
(02:14:25):
You don't want to give up another war. There's a
shot and the save made. Ohoh, now there's a little
bumping going on quickly separated.
Speaker 12 (02:14:32):
Heck of a save there through traffic. Ava gloved it
to cause a face off here to her right.
Speaker 2 (02:14:43):
What's your thoughts on the overall for the game? What
did you what do you think?
Speaker 12 (02:14:47):
I'm glad they got the first game, you know, jitters
are uncertainty out of the way, you know. And then
as the game progressed, I thought some things got better.
It was nice hee a goal production come alive. You
got to tune up a few things yet, but that's
to be expected first game of the year.
Speaker 2 (02:15:04):
But I like what I saw overall. Yeah, and we'll
have the face off coming up. One other point on
your induction that I was impressed with, folks. He started
his hockey career at a pond in Janesville on a farm,
using a stick from a tree branch. Yeah, and a
(02:15:26):
cow pie. Yeah.
Speaker 12 (02:15:27):
Frozen cow pie made a heck of a puck. It
worked out just fine. That's what we started. A serious
I'm dead serious. Yeah, it was a pond.
Speaker 2 (02:15:35):
Ready, what is your road at her where you're just
just chipping around the cow?
Speaker 12 (02:15:39):
Yeah, you set down two clumps of you know, snow
or chunks of ice and tried to use that for
a goal and just slide it around.
Speaker 18 (02:15:46):
You know, we were pretty young. It was fun. We
didn't know any better.
Speaker 2 (02:15:50):
Rebranch or stick and a cow chip, Yeah, we didn't
know any better. Twenty five seconds remained and.
Speaker 12 (02:15:59):
Just think what they pay for a stick nowadays. Yeah,
he had playing hockey, yeah, you know, but yeah, it
was just a lot of fun. Go out and entertain
yourself out doors, you know.
Speaker 2 (02:16:12):
And Mark did play a couple of years with the Badgers.
Speaker 12 (02:16:16):
Huh yeah, yeah, yeah, about a year and a half.
Two years, yep, walked on had I was lucky to
make the team and most of it on the jvs.
You know who's for about the last two years they
were in existences in the Continental Hockey League.
Speaker 2 (02:16:31):
Well, I have a face off coming up. I loved
your story too about when you were put in goal
for the Badgers. By Bob Donald.
Speaker 12 (02:16:39):
Huh yeah, yeah, yeah, my first day. He he's in
the slot with thirty pucks and he's taking any shots.
And then he says, Okay, you're on that bench over there.
It's iner squad game at the shell, and I hop
over there and I'm sitting there. A minute and a
half into it, Dick Perkins, who's in goal on my
end and Dibbles on the other end, you know, him
and Steve Allley get in a fight.
Speaker 2 (02:17:00):
Yeah.
Speaker 12 (02:17:00):
They're throwing haymakers at each other, and I'm like, I
can't believe what I'm seeing. So they get done. Rocket
Raffle assistant coaches us in the penal eas he's referee
and gives Perkins his and Perks says, hey, Rocket, go
f yourself, and he says, that's it.
Speaker 2 (02:17:15):
Pickins ye out of the game, kicks them out.
Speaker 18 (02:17:17):
They said goalie, get in there.
Speaker 12 (02:17:18):
I was so dumb struck. I didn't know who they meant.
Finally they said, I think they mean you get in there.
So I hopped over the boards like Fred Flintstone on
Howler Scales, stopped a few bucks from allowed a few goals,
and said come back tomorrow.
Speaker 2 (02:17:32):
Hey, stop coming up here we've had a delay, but
we're ready to go scannals.
Speaker 12 (02:17:38):
Penalty is up and we got McCarthy, Finley McCarthy and
the face off circle.
Speaker 2 (02:17:45):
Obviously you can tell by us talking that the game
is out of hand here nine to two. Who's a
long delay there? I don't know what the long delayed.
I was trying to figure that out myself. I'm honestly
not sure whatever. I don't know what it was either,
is well, I gave us answer to Chattel, Yeah, you know,
it's just good to be back in the groove with you, Paul.
Another season and the play and finally dumped out of
(02:18:07):
the zone with there's the time coming to the end
yep and the Wisconsin Badgers opened the season with a
nine to two win. Your thoughts screening, Well, it.
Speaker 12 (02:18:17):
Took us a while to settle down, but we started
clicking together. And some of these players it's their first
time they're playing with each other, you know. So I
think the adjustment or progression was pretty good today.
Speaker 2 (02:18:27):
All right, and we'll take a break. We'll be back

upper corner of the nap getting the first goal of
the year. Is Kirsten Sims as she went up right
underneath the crossbar and ripped it into the twine. And
it's one to nothing lead for the Badger. Whether it
is Sims back out on top over to Abra, Murphy pulling,
(02:24:52):
get in, shut out, Wanta go by the Badgers and

Speaker 1 (02:25:44):

Speaker 2 (02:25:44):

roped into the net. Here's a potential break moving about
bis Badger Scannel give it over the line with sims
sim shotting the goal.
Speaker 18 (02:25:57):
She ripped it in in the upper.
Speaker 2 (02:25:58):
Corner of the net, gets her second of the ninth.
Wisconsin comes in over the line. Cassie Hall shot pier glass.
Cassie Hall ripped it into the corner of the net.
Man with nineteen point three seconds left. She just ripped it.
There's McCarthy holding it. They move it in, try to
go in shotting the goal. Another freshman Pekan hougenes the
(02:26:23):
goal and it's her first for the Wisconsin Badgers. And
it's now a seven to one game here and moving
it around yetting a goal by e Eten gets the
upper corner of the net, her second goal of the night,
and the Badgers score and it's an eight to two game.
(02:26:43):
There's moving it in gott the goal by Scannal. What
a shot. Scannel ripped that one into the net as well,
her second of the game. And the Badgers now laid
it twow. They have put up nine on the board
right now, finally dumped out on the with there's the
time coming to the end, and the Wisconsin Badgers open
(02:27:06):
the season with a nine to two win.
Speaker 5 (02:27:09):
There's your final nine to two live from Bibidji.
Speaker 19 (02:27:13):
Welcome back to the Smart Toyo Smart Mortars Toyota postgame show.
Speaker 5 (02:27:17):
You heard those highlights nine times. The Badgers found the.
Speaker 19 (02:27:21):
Back of the net, two goals from three different players.
One newcomer had a goal tonight, so we put nine
on the board. The first period was a little bit
slow and as I mentioned in that first intermission, both
teams are trying to find their feet, trying to find
their legs, trying to find where their stick at the ice.
So it was one nothing after the first period. Again,
very tight score as we entered that first intermission. Second
(02:27:45):
period took a little bit, but halfway through the intermission
both teams traded.
Speaker 5 (02:27:49):
Goals to make it two to one.
Speaker 19 (02:27:50):
After that it was all Badgers to end up the
second period going into that second intermission six to one,
and then the same thing happened in the third period.
Earlier on in the third pie, both teams traded goals,
making it seven to two, and then after that the
Badgers scored two more to close the night out. So
from Sanford Arena in Bamiji, the Badgers won it nine
(02:28:13):
to two in terms of stats, the Badgers, of course
led across the board. Goals of course, assists fourteen to
two on Badger's side, shots on goal forty two to
sixteen in favor of the Badgers.
Speaker 5 (02:28:25):
And penalties, Yep, you've heard it.
Speaker 19 (02:28:27):
There was one penalty called very near the end of
the game tonight that was in the Badger's hands and
they took that with grace again to finish up the game.
So here we are, Game number one of the twenty
five twenty six season is in the books. The confident
Wisconsin women's Badger team was exactly that tonight. They knew
they had to make this one theirs, and they did
(02:28:49):
early on. So come back and listen to us tomorrow
afternoon at three o'clock. Pregame starts at two forty five.
Right here on ten to seventy the game, we will
have all of the best for you. So with that,
live from Sanford Arena. This is bred in the TSO
ten seventy of the game studios here in Madison. Closing
(02:29:10):
out day number one of the twenty five to twenty
sixth season for Badger women's hockey. Game number two coming
in tomorrow night. Come back and hear us, enjoy your
evening and thank you
