Now here's eight In Michaels and the Voice of Wisconsin.

Speaker 3 (01:12):
Hello everyone, and welcome to Game two of the opening
series of the twenty twenty five twenty twenty six Wisconsin
women's hockey season. My name is Aiden Michaels, and you're
listening to coverage of your national champion Wisconsin Badger women's
hockey team on ten seventy the game. The team traveled
to Bamigie on Thursday to open up their season, and
they didn't skip any beats as they stormed into the
Sandford Center and walked away with a nine to two win. Tonight,

(01:35):
they're looking for a similar result.

Speaker 4 (01:37):
Now.

Speaker 3 (01:37):
Normally Wisconsin fairs pretty well against Bamigie State, so this
wasn't necessarily a surprise, but you never know. The first
game after a national championship win, you start to see
some faults. But overall, I think the Badgers played pretty great.
They only scored one goal in the first period, which
is unlike them against teams like Bimigie State, but they
were able to get things going in the second period.
They ended that second period up six to one. Mag

(02:00):
Scannal scored a hat trick. It was her first career.
She scored two goals twice last season but never got
the third goal, and she did last night. In fact,
she was joking with Kelly Gorbatenko, who was initially credited
with one of her goals, but eventually they gave it
to Maggie Scannell. She gets her first career hat trick
and a first career assist in her first career game

(02:21):
for Adela Chapo valle Vova, who was playing on the
first line tonight at the center position. And it was
an incredible game for Wisconsin on all fronts as the
Badgers just steamrolled the Beavers. And again I anticipate a
similar game tonight, and Mikayla Zillis is a player to
look out for as well as that extra skater for Wisconsin.
She played a couple seasons with Bimidgie State a few

(02:44):
years ago, comes into Wisconsin, wins a national championship in
her first career year with the Badgers and does the job.
And it was another debut point, a debut goal for
Charlotte Pekinhagen to make it seven to one, sort of
that insurance goal for the Badgers to seal the deal.
So we will see what happens. But we're going to
take a look at an interview, the pregame interview with

(03:07):
Mark Johnson with Paul Brown. So stay tuned. Presented by

And welcome back aiden Michael's here. On ten to seventy
of the game, Hall of Famer broadcaster Paul Brown had
a chance to catch up with Mark Johnson before the game.
This is the Coaches Corner presented by Fields Madison, your
premier Luxury Auto Group, serving customers since nineteen seventy one.

Speaker 10 (04:39):
Back in the pregame show, Paul Brown with QW Women's
hockey coach Mark Johnson. Mark overall just a general observation.
We'll kind of break it down.

Speaker 11 (04:47):
A little bit.

Speaker 12 (04:48):
Yeah, the first game, you're always interested in, you know,
how we're going to come out and what we're going
to look like, because you can only refer back to
your practices, but you know, the first period it look
like our first game. And then I think as the
game progressed, got the more comfortable and started doing some
of the things we've talked about. So now you have
to build on that. It's always funding your first game completed,
and then you can actually move forward and make progress

(05:10):
in certain areas, and we'll try to do that today.

Speaker 10 (05:12):
Yeah, and you put up nine goals, scandal officially got
a hat trick, a couple of others got two goals,
a crease or you had to be happy with the production.

Speaker 12 (05:22):
Yeah, it's one of those games where everybody got a
chance to play. Everybody we dressed got on the ace,
and you got a chance to showcase themselves in a game.
And so you know, happy with the outcome. But as
a coach you're always looking at things and how you
can improve, and that that's what we look at. We
have thirty three more to go, and the whole key
is to continue to make progress and get better every game.

Speaker 10 (05:42):
Where are those improvements Mark generally? And I know they'll
change from game to game throughout the year.

Speaker 12 (05:46):
Well, it's that compared. You know, we made a couple
of poor line changes and gave them some ount numbered
situations and then face offs. And you know, as a player,
you can tell, you know, you can practice hard and
do things in practice, but then you get in the game,
it's like things ramp up because the other team wants
to puck just as much as you want to. And
one thing about the Midgie over.

Speaker 13 (06:04):
The course of their history, Uh, they're.

Speaker 12 (06:06):
A hard working team. They compete, they are relevant with
the scorer is they're gonna play hard from start to finish.
And so as I look at it from my standpoints,
actually a good couple of games to start with, it's
gonna force you to play hard.

Speaker 11 (06:18):
Scannell played pretty well last night, didn't she.

Speaker 12 (06:20):
Yeah, she played the you know, right wing and uh,
you know, created some opportunities and uh, you know that
line has been pretty well, you know as far as
uh consistency throughout the first part of camp. And I'm
gonna move around today. I'm gonnactually play here at center
today and see what she looks like at at center.
And so had a good, strong game yesterday and hopefully uh,
you know, her confidence continues to grow as she starts

(06:42):
her second season.

Speaker 11 (06:44):
Another change, you got mackenzie and defensively now and you
move Leila up on the right wing.

Speaker 12 (06:49):
Yeah, I mean Layla if I'm not mistaken, you know,
uh was our leading goal scorer last year, had the
capturing goal scoring and so uh, she's got a chance
to impact the game. And whether that's that defensive forward. Uh,
you know, it's early in the season for us, and
I wanna see what she's able to do up front today?

Speaker 10 (07:04):
How about uh goaltending? Uh, she just continues to get
better and better. It doesn't she what's your real strength? Uh?

Speaker 12 (07:11):
I think she she's such a hard worker and so
uh you know, if kids they're are are working hard
at their craft and they're consistent in that effort, you know,
over a period of time they should improve. And so
it's a it's a hard position, as you well know,
and as they mature as a goaltender and you start
to get experience behind you. You know, she had that
a freshman, and then last year, you know, she led
us to a national championship. So the experiences she had

(07:34):
not only with us, but then with some uh you know,
the national team and and hopefully the Olympic team. Uh,
those things just build on confidence and and she continues
to work hard. She's only going to get better. And
so it was nice to see her get involved yesterday.
And we'll start her today and see where it takes us.

Speaker 11 (07:49):
What are her strengths as a goaltender?

Speaker 12 (07:51):
F her size? I mean, uh, you know her size,
as she you know, presents herself as you're a shooter.
There's not much to shoot at us. She's at her angle.
The one thing she's gotten better at is being patient,
not moving before the puckets delivering. You can't make us
save until they shoot it. And so you know, the
first goal yesterday got deflected. Now you know they're there,
tough to do in them into The second one is
eternal in a in a high eight grade y situation.

Speaker 14 (08:15):
And so, uh, the big thing is to.

Speaker 12 (08:16):
Get her more comfortable and and continue that progress. She's
named for the first two seasons.

Speaker 11 (08:21):
And I'll tell you, Kirsten Sam, she's just a solid player.

Speaker 13 (08:24):
If you said she.

Speaker 12 (08:25):
Played well, I mean she had a good summer of training. Uh,
she's excited. Uh, she's worked at her game and uh,
you know, showcasing herself early. You know, in the first
couple of weeks of camp. Uh, she seems like she's
got an extra step for her puck handling and her
puck movement and a couple of shots she had yesterday.
Not many people on the female size can do that.

Speaker 13 (08:43):
Yeah. Uh.

Speaker 10 (08:44):
In terms of Adella, how would you uh talk about
her first game as a Badger, But more importantly, what
a huge adjustment for somebody like her to come to school,
different country, playing hockey and that kind of thing.

Speaker 11 (08:58):
You just kind of take a soul with her. What's
the approach.

Speaker 12 (09:01):
No, she's she's she's adapting.

Speaker 10 (09:03):
Well.

Speaker 12 (09:03):
I mean, she hasn't even been here a month yet,
I think, so she's played her first game. She actually
have scored a couple of goals yesterday. You know, I
had two or three really good opportunities and has a
good IQ and you know, her relationship with Sims and
Eden is strong because they think the game alike. And
so I think as we go, you know, she'll continue
to get better and better as she gets more comfortable
and understands the league, understands our systems, how we play.

(09:27):
But she she's a competitor. She's not very you know, tall,
but she's strong, she's not afraid to ford checks, she
wins battles. So I expect that she gets more comfortable,
she's going to continue to blossom.

Speaker 10 (09:39):
One final question on a gape ranch. Somebody called me
today and said, hey, with Mark and Leslie, what exactly
is going on here?

Speaker 11 (09:47):
How would you kind of explain it?

Speaker 12 (09:49):
Well, it's a way to you know, uh, you know
the space that I think the entire country's in is
you know, kids that are depressed, kids that are anxious
about whatever they may be. The suicide rates our skyrocket,
and so Leslie and I are putting something together that
we can connect those kids with horses and create full
and start the healing process that you know, Hey, life

(10:10):
is challenging, life is difficult, but you know, if you're
willing to work through some things and take some adversity
like a hockey player does, and push forward and get
through it the end up becoming stronger, or we're creating
this space that is going to be able to opportunity
for us to work with those type of kids.

Speaker 11 (10:25):
That's wonderful. Congratulations and good luck tonight.

Speaker 12 (10:27):
Thanks so much enjoying it.

Speaker 3 (10:30):
Well that was Paul Brown with coach Mark Johnson before
tonight's game. I'm joined now by Paul Brown and Mark
Greenholme guys domination last night. What do we expect tonight?

Speaker 10 (10:40):
I think we can expect the same type of thing
aiden because when you realistically you look at the two teams,
they're trying to rebuild a program here at Bumidgee State,
and for example, all six of their defensemen they're brand new,
they've never been with the program before, and they're trying
to re establish some time ago. They used to have

(11:02):
a fairly good program here for this size market and
that type of thing. On the other side of it,
you look at the Wisconsin Badgers and all of us
know not only did they win the national championship and
only lose one game last year.

Speaker 11 (11:16):
You take a look at this squad.

Speaker 10 (11:18):
There's a tremendous amount of talent all the way through.
They can go very solid in terms of six defensively.
In fact, they've got eight players that will play, including
Mackenzie Jones will be in the lineup, one of the
freshmen here this afternoon.

Speaker 11 (11:35):
Up front. They've got a lot of firepower.

Speaker 10 (11:38):
They're very capable of putting up big numbers in that
type of thing. And you talk to people around the
league and there's high expectations that this team is going
to go a very long way again.

Speaker 3 (11:52):
Yeah, and speaking of freshmen, we talked about Adela shapo Valivova,
who've got an assist on her debut. She's going to
be on that first line tonight. I mean what a
player she is.

Speaker 11 (12:02):
Yeah, and you can see it.

Speaker 10 (12:03):
She's as you know, aiden, she's not very big, she's
only about five four. But I tell you what, when
you watch her, it's one of those situations if you
go to the rink and you didn't know the number
of the player and you just kind of watch and
look around, and it's very evident. It was kind of
the same way with KK Harvey. You talk to people

(12:26):
about her and if you didn't tell her her name
or tell her it was number four, you go to
a rink and watch your practice and you go, oh yeah,
it's that one over there, and she's got the same
kind of ability. You can see that she's very confident.
She can handle the puck, she can shoot the puck,
and that type of thing. And I think she's going

(12:48):
to have a tremendous year and a lot is expected
of her. They're talking about her being the freshman of
the Year in the WCCHA and playing with Eden, and
that's certainly going to help her out. Whether she stays
there in that combination, we'll just kind of wait and see.
And joining us now is Greenie. Greenie.

Speaker 11 (13:11):
We're on the air with Aiden back in Madison.

Speaker 10 (13:14):
What do you expect in game two here based on
what you saw in the first game of the year.

Speaker 13 (13:20):
Well, we're gonna have a couple different combinations today, so
you know, we're still experimenting. Two things that we're discussed is,
you know, hey, we got to decide we're gonna win
the fifty to fifty bats and we've got to make
sure we do what we need to do to accomplish that,
and then good communication amongst each other because there's a
lot of new faces.

Speaker 15 (13:38):
With each other.

Speaker 13 (13:39):
So well, I think we're going to see a pretty
good contest again today.

Speaker 10 (13:44):
And the introduction of the starting lineups are taking place
right now here at the arena. The Bamigi State obviously
one to one on the gear they did scrimmage the
Minnesota Golden Gophers the week before. Ladies and gentlemen, we'll
have playing in the singing of our national anthem, and

(14:04):
we'll be back with the opening face off after this
time out. This is Wisconsin Badgers Women's Hockey brought to

Hey, you want to hear some great news broadcasting live
from the Engelhart Motorsports Studio, your local Polaris off road headquarters.
This is WTSO Madison. Ten to seventy the game. Welcome
back to Wisconsin Women's hockey, presented by oh Park Place.

Speaker 10 (15:36):
Another small crowd here at the Sandford Center in Bamegi, Minnesota,
Bamigi state, about five thousand students strong here in account
of about fifteen thousand or so way up north in
the parts of the Hindra LAMSDA speak in northern Minnesota.
Wisconsin Badgers will be skating from our left to our right,

(15:59):
and the Beavers from our right to our left. And
you know, we were talking about Adela, and everybody's having
kind of fun with this in terms of her last
name and especially broadcasters, including myself in that kind of thing.
The guy from Bamidgie, he's at it, and Adela said,

(16:22):
the easiest thing to do is her, she said, her teammates,
but kind of whatever, you know, get it close.

Speaker 13 (16:29):
Yeah, she doesn't get offended by it. Dan was telling me,
I just call her Shabby.

Speaker 19 (16:33):
You know.

Speaker 13 (16:33):
I think we were in the Butcher's Union yesterday trying
to pronounce her name.

Speaker 11 (16:37):
Son of a gun.

Speaker 10 (16:41):
And we're ready to go. Here from the home of
Bamidgie State the Badgers one and zero in the gear.
This is the one hundred and twelfth meeting between the
two teams. The Badgers have won the last twenty games
in a row and the overall record is ninety seven
and five. Opening up, it's Johnson, Gettle and Armstrong for

(17:05):
the Beavers against Leila Edwards. Haul in Gorbitenko and we're
underway and the puck is loose in front of the
Badger ben center. Ice Gorbatanco drops it on the wing,
right side over the Laila Edwards comes in over the
line to Gorbatanko, back over to Laila Edwards down deep
in the zone. Gorbatanko over to pick it up. Paul

(17:26):
tried to chase it behind the nap haul along the
boards along with Edwards back handing it to Harvey at
the right point, and it's played away from her stick.
Harvey's strodding back and picking it up, moving it away
from Johnson and she'll come out of the zone on
the pass right side over the Lailey Edwards. Edwards skate
Cinema the blue line and cycles it down in behind

(17:50):
the ad in the corner. Hall tried to center it
intended for Gorbatanko pace much different in the early part
of the game compared to yesterday, and going over to
set it up, there's a drive by Murphy. I think
you'd expect that from Wisconsin.

Speaker 13 (18:05):
Yeah, they looked over the video today and see what
we can improve on, and I think we're seeing that today.

Speaker 10 (18:10):
Sims is out on the line now and coming in
over the line eating with it. Eden and Sims had
a couple of goals apiece for the Badgers, five different
players scoring nine in game one. Over to set it up,
it's going to be played and Eden tried to tip
it down in the corner on the far boards. No

(18:31):
score in the game. There's sappy with it, moving it
in and it's cleared from her stick in the corner.
She picks it up, goes around over to Sims, little
give and go Sims on the far boards over to
set it up between the dots and it comes back
and there's a drive and it went into the glove
of the goaltender Haitalin Gross, who was in the net

(18:53):
four Bamidge State in game one.

Speaker 13 (18:55):
Yeah, she's a solid goaltender. But it's nice to see
Shappy get a nice shot off there from.

Speaker 15 (18:59):
The highst.

Speaker 10 (19:01):
Face off coming up, Badgers are going to change up
and coming out on the line now is McCarthy on
the left side, with Scandal back at center and Petenhaugen,
a freshman who scored for the Badgers out of Saint Catharines, Ontario.
They'll have that face off coming up. Maggie Scandal will
be our guest. Between intermission one or two, we talked

(19:24):
to her about her hat trick. She wasn't even sure
that she got the role where she was credited eventually
with the hat trick. That was one of the three
goals she scored right out in front Badgers trying to
control it and the moving it up ice controlling it
comes back into the Wisconsin line and dumping it down

(19:45):
deep in the zone in the corner as the Beavers
try to hold the zone Wisconsin back and Aba McNaughton
watching the traffic on the near side. Badgers will look
to the corner coming back over to pick a up.
That is McKenzie Jones, the freshman, yes her first round
over the potter on Potter on the break to center

(20:07):
Ice and McCarthy with it taking off her stick. Here's
Armstrong moving it in shot off the glass. Ray bound
over to Johnson down in the corner, comes back of
it to Potter behind it at back, handing it around
on the break, Badgers play it to center Ice, broken
up by Bray Bray looking for help in Wisconsin's Harvey

(20:28):
has it at her own blue line comes right side
on the pass and it was intended trying to pick
it up. Was Halverson who's playing with percard and then
right and play is going to be stopped. Your thoughts
in the early part of the first two fifty two, Well,
I like what I'm seeing here.

Speaker 13 (20:45):
We got people going to the front of the net,
you know, without the puck, which is the right thing
to do, or we're getting it in deep too we're
not screwing around with it on the blue light.

Speaker 10 (20:53):
Assistant Captain Mary Anne Pricard trying to win the face
off to draw on the corner and Ryan over to
try to pick that up in percard. They work the
near boards, trying to look for help from Halverson and
turning with its en Right, who dumps it down on
the corner, trying to skate it down his Picard. Badgers
outside the blue line are gonna have to chase it

(21:16):
all the way back. Harvey picks it up. She'll skate
through center eyes, pick it up, a good head of
steam moving it in and Harvey controls it down in
the corner off on the wing on the near side.
She's a magicious she's magic with the park.

Speaker 13 (21:31):
Like watching Bobby Orr out there just skating around everybody
like they're standing still.

Speaker 10 (21:34):
Around on the far side trying to control it. Dan
Right is still out along with Picard and Halverson. Badgers
look to hold it in at the point. No shots
on goal for the Beavers. Two for the Badgers here
in the early going, setting it up back the point,
controlling it as Harvey. Harvey fake giving it up on
the wing, carried it back to the point on the

(21:56):
far side, pass comes out of the zone and turning
with it is Jungles, Jungles and Harvey. That's a combination
that worked last year. Wisconsin comes back into the line.
Here's gorbat Tenko centered with a backhanded pass, but it
went through the slot and the Beavers will dump it
all the way down the ice and we'll have a

(22:17):
stoppage employ and a face off coming up back in
the zone of the midge state.

Speaker 15 (22:23):
You know you mentioned about Harvey.

Speaker 13 (22:25):
It is something she'll have somebody right next to her
and then just create separation with her speed. You know,
she just takes off and she's got open ice face.

Speaker 10 (22:34):
Off coming up to the left side of their goaltender Dross.
You know, if you look at the bio of Harvey,
I'll explain it in a minute.

Speaker 11 (22:44):
It's absolutely incredible.

Speaker 10 (22:46):
Around on the far side turned the shot went why
of the Mark Edwards is out the right winger tried
to hold the zone, coming back of it to pick
it up and with it is Aba Murphy for the Badgers.
The coaching staff talks about her and said that the
only reason me is not even better is she's got
to believe in herself. She has all the tools.

Speaker 13 (23:08):
Yes she does.

Speaker 10 (23:11):
When you look at the statistics and the stat and
the bio on KK Harvey, and you take into account
like for an example, player of the Week here, player
of the month, whatever, But all of the awards. Do
you know how many of them there are so far?

Speaker 11 (23:26):
I counted them up. They're forty one.

Speaker 13 (23:29):
Isn't that something?

Speaker 11 (23:30):
It's crazy whenever it looks at its boo about it.
You know, no, she that she could care less?

Speaker 10 (23:36):
Yeah, really around on the far side, but my gosh,
the page is about half of the full page and
notes on what she's accomplished. Fifteen eleven are remitting. In
the first period, here Smith with a pucker around on
the far side, and Sandberg turned and tried to bring
it out of the zone. The Badger's Vivian Jungles tried
to pick it up, and the Beavers shoot it down

(23:58):
in the corner. We're at the fourteen fifty four mark
of the period. No store in the game. And last yesterday,
in that game one, there was only one goal in
the first period, then the Badgers put up six in
the second and turning trying to come out of the zone.
Lad It comes to center ice and going back over

(24:19):
to set it up. That's Mackenzie Jones around on the
right side, over to Lacy Eden. Eden along with Sims,
trying to chase it down in the corner, angled around
the boards over to try and hold it in with Scandal.
Scandal down in the corner looking for help. Back to
Sims at the point around over the jungles in the corner.

(24:39):
It's Eden with it, Aiden controlling it a little given
go in the corner. Back over and that Scandal with
it works from the corner. Tried to come up towards
the side of the net, taken away by McCarthy and
the Badgers try to pick it up. There's pressure by
Pekinghaugen trying to center it comes back over all on top,

(25:00):
over to Harvey. Harvey resting it right in and covering
it up and the save is made. We're gonna take
a thirty second break. This is Wisconsin Badger hockey.

Speaker 20 (25:14):

Speaker 11 (25:51):
Game Mark Greenhaw Paul Brown bringing you.

Speaker 10 (25:55):
Badger women's hockey here from BLAMITG, Minnesota where it's scoreless.

Speaker 11 (25:59):
In the first period.

Speaker 10 (26:00):
Shots on goal Badgers have four, the Beavers have none,
and the percard with the winning face off and the
draft of Venusio and there's a drive in right pushed
it wider than net Abra. Murphy looks to hold the
fucking the zone around the boards, trying to skate it
down as McCarthy. They come to the near boards trying

(26:22):
to work it loose and Halverson goes in behind the net,
but it goes past her over the wave of Murphy.
They cycle it on the far board, still in the zone,
trying to set it up now out on top. Badgers
control it with it controlling it, and that's Percard who
whipped it around on the far side, but turning and

(26:43):
playing it up. Ice carried in over the line as fairchild.
As we'll have an icing called in the face off
will be brought back in the.

Speaker 11 (26:51):
Zone of the beaver.

Speaker 13 (26:52):
That was a good idea there by Picard, but nobody
was really in the slot to get that one that
she slid through there.

Speaker 10 (26:59):
Badgers will be home next weekend. They're in fact the
next couple of weeks they'll be at Labond Arena. Maine
will be in town next weekend and then followed by
the Bulldogs of Minnesota Daluth, and the general consensus around
the league is they may be better than a lot
of people think they're going to be Duluth, right yeah, yeah.

(27:22):
And it's set up on the far side, going back
over to try and control it. That's Comstock on the
far boards and it's played back down to the Badger
zone and Busio will pick it up. Here's Emma coming
out of the zone, slides it out of the break edwards,
passing it back to one of the teammates, Aba Murphy,

(27:42):
who flipped it in down in the corner, both teams
full strength. Only one penalty called in the game last night,
and that was fifty two seconds remaining in the game,
and there was a long delay after that.

Speaker 11 (27:57):
You want to tell the story. Mark asked, what in
the world world was going on? They were looking at
a major one major?

Speaker 13 (28:04):
Yes, somebody was their coacher evidently was trying to challenge
for a major and there wasn't one, and so I
don't know.

Speaker 10 (28:10):
And it went on for quite antilated dadday, and they
were kind of chuckling about it after the game last night.
Eleven fifty four a minute, and we've got a stoppage
of play and we'll have the face off coming up
at center ice. Badgers had one goal in the first
period in their opening game.

Speaker 11 (28:31):
They had nine on the game.

Speaker 10 (28:34):
Badgers put up forty two shots in the game last night.
The Beavers had sixteen on the nap and controlling it
played back down to the corner, trying to skate it
down that shape of Bolava and then comes back over
to Eton Eden when tried to go up toward the
corner on the drive, and it's going to be played

(28:56):
back down, and the Badgers looked to try and set
it up with Sims with it and they'll flip it up.
Ice on the lead coming back. Mackenzie Jones over to
try and pick it up. Jon's out on the ice.
Mark describes her as somebody that can skate very well.
She has good sized, solid skills offensively as well and

(29:19):
a give and go. Here's Eden right out in front,
cleared to the corner onto their side. Sims works it
around on the far side. Badgers look to try and
set it up. They got Eden, They give it back over. Oh,
Eden got a pass, but she fanned on the drive.
Came from Shappie and down in the corner over to

(29:39):
try and pick it up. Shappy is tied up along
the boards over to try and control it, and the
Beaver's turn and out. They come back into the Badger line.
Fairchild dumps it in behind Ava McNaughton A McCarthy on
the wing on the far side, trying to hold the zone.
Kayser is there. Kayser tried to center it, clear it

(30:00):
from in front of their own net. They'll play to
the wing on the near side in the Wisconsin zone,
held in at the point by Comstock and turning with
it at center ice driven it by the Badger bench.
We're nearing the halfway mark of the first period, still
no score in the game. Wisconsin comes out of their

(30:21):
own zone looking for the outlet on the pass. They
fire it up on the lead. Nicely done to Pekenhagen,
who whistle and play is.

Speaker 11 (30:30):
Going to be stopped there.

Speaker 13 (30:31):
He was right there called it off side. That was
a good play by a two zone pass. See if
Scandal can win the draw here.

Speaker 10 (30:48):
And it's going to be played around on the far side.
Badgers in front of their own bench area and Wisconsin
coming up ice with it on the right side, coming
in over the lawn, trying to skate it down. Scandal
is out on the ice. Pekanaugan is there as well.
They try to center it toward the slot in the corner.

(31:10):
It's going to be picked up, turning trying to bring
it out as graves. Wisconsin holds it in with Scandal.
Nice play to Pekanhagen who went in behind the Nat
around over the scannal, scanning with a puck, trying to
work her way loose back over the Pekanhaugen to the
point on the left side. Wisconsin looking to set it up.
They work the wing on the far side. Both teams

(31:33):
at full strength, no penalties in the game, nine to
ten remaining in the period. Back in behind the Wisconsin
net off on the play on the near side, they
lifted high in the air. Harvey tried to glove it,
but the Beavers will dump it deep in the Badger's zone.
Vivian jungles gon. The rush coming out of the zone

(31:53):
works through center ice up over the wing on the
far side, taken down and whistling. Action is going to
be stopped there. Yeah, we're going to go on the
power play. It looks like huh, and we'll take a break.
This is Wisconsin Badger Women's hockey.

Speaker 23 (32:11):

Park Plays.

Speaker 10 (33:16):
Shelby Sandberg is going to the penalty box so Wisconsin
will have their first power play opportunity on the year,
and Lacy Eden is one of the premier players on
the power play. She's got twenty in her career on
the power play face off coming up back on the

(33:36):
right side of Gross as she looks out from goal.

Speaker 13 (33:40):
I think it was hooking, is what the call was.

Speaker 10 (33:46):
Let's see what the power play. Eden is out, yeah,
and Wisconsin looking to set it up. Edwards is on
the ice, Sims is out of the ice. Here's Harvey
with a shot Ray bound Sims going back door, but
the Harvey it's going to be taken away and the
Beavers work at two on two. They come back into
the Wisconsin line and Harvey back quickly. Badgers try to

(34:10):
set it up and regroup, and they come out of
the zone in the neutral ice area. It's going to
be set up Wisconsin, Harvey with it. Harvey on the break,
they give it to Sims on the lead. Here Sims
with her head up looking for the pass, comes to
Layla edwards and back down on the corner on the
near side and with it as Sims, Sims controlling it,

(34:30):
moving it in, gets lowing the zone, went behind the
net around on the far side, slides it out on top,
over to Harvey. They work the wing over to Chappie,
back out on top controlling it. Here's KK with it
and then that words fired a bomb that went wide
of the net.

Speaker 15 (34:50):
Yeah, that one timer from her off wing there on
the right dot.

Speaker 10 (34:54):
I don't think Mark is sold on the concept of
her playing defense. You got somebody that led Nation in
goals for thirty five.

Speaker 13 (35:02):
He was pretty uh clear when he said, Okay, we're
gonna try something different here today. Last morning's meeting, you know,
and he gave the light ups kind of yeah.

Speaker 11 (35:10):
It's going to be played back up ice and Laylah
back over to pick it up. Talk to her though.
She's fine, she'll play wherever they want her to play. Yeah,
she's just so potent that forward, you know.

Speaker 10 (35:21):
And it's going to be set up to power play
advantages down to twenty four seconds, remitting Wisconsin control to
get onto the ear side. Kirsten Simms comes in on
the right side, moved it around heavy traffic.

Speaker 11 (35:34):
In front of the next pile up and it went
into the goal. But I believe no goal.

Speaker 13 (35:39):
He called David wave it off, Yeah, called it dead,
but it did slide across the goal line.

Speaker 11 (35:44):
Trickled in.

Speaker 15 (35:47):
Almost top Paul.

Speaker 10 (35:48):
Yep, you got Gorba Tanco out. Scandal is out, Paul
is out. Potter is one of the defense. Vivian jungles
the other. With thirteen seconds still remaining in the power
play opportunity, Badgers worked the wing on the far side
over to try to set it up. We're scoreless here

(36:08):
in the game, played around of the farboards over trying
to control it. Badgers moved the puck still on the
left side back of the potter shot nice kick saved there.
It was boy, what a nice effort there, and the
Badgers don't convert. In the power play, they're all one,
but Wisconsin carries it through center eye score Batanko comes

(36:30):
in over the line, coming in on the wing, controlling
the puck all the way around to the right side,
put it in the slot. Nobody home. Scandal picked it
up in the wing back of the potter and there's
a shot that was deflected wine that came off the
stick there. Bray Wisconsin working it back in over the
line again. They work it around with hall hall circles

(36:53):
out in front, with a drive block in front. Scannal
is there and play is going to be stopped.

Speaker 13 (37:00):
We are getting the puck to the net, Paul, wouldn't
you say absolutely some good high percentage chances there that
we've created and the goaltenders just answering the bell.

Speaker 11 (37:08):
Caitlyn Gross in net for the Beavers eight to.

Speaker 10 (37:14):
They still have not listed a shot on goal for
the Beavers of Bamidgi State. Here with six oh three
remaining in the period and there's a drive by the
Badgers and kicked out there by the goaltender. Gross down
on the corner right side, Badgers look to set it up.
They'll cycle it along the back wall in the corner.

(37:36):
Trying to pick that up is Percard behind the ad
and then ride and Pericard on the wrap around, hit
the pipe and slid out. Almost got the wrap around roll,
but it was quickly swept.

Speaker 11 (37:51):
Away there in front.

Speaker 10 (37:52):
Trickling over there, yep, around of the far side, Wisconsin
looking to set it up. Badgers inside the blue down
on the corner on the near boards. The play continues
and trying to bring it out of the zone and
they turn and with it. Fair Child shoots it down
in behind McNaughton, and here's Emma on the play. That

(38:14):
pass is broken up. Gattle with it whistling. The play
is going to be stopped at the blue line of Wisconsin.

Speaker 11 (38:20):
Yeah, venusiado is better net.

Speaker 24 (38:22):
You know.

Speaker 11 (38:25):
That's called a no no pass, that one right there.

Speaker 13 (38:28):
Yeah, the diagonal one that gets picked off out of
your zone.

Speaker 10 (38:33):
Eaton is out with Chapa bolet Boba and play in
the neutral zone.

Speaker 11 (38:41):
Adela is her first name.

Speaker 13 (38:49):
Well, I like the fact we're playing a lot smarter
hockey today, Paul, in terms of what aspect, Well, we're
transitioning the puck quickly out of our end, so if
we get it, we're not waste time bringing it up,
getting up to the forwards and the neutral zone and
on the offensive zone.

Speaker 10 (39:05):
Fuscials are coming down here to look at something. Oh,
they're going to take a look at something. I'm not
exactly sure what they're going to be taking a look at.
Not sure what's uh what's being reviewed here.

Speaker 13 (39:20):
But yeah, we're you know, and we have people without
the puck going to the slot, you know, and creating
better chances as far as rebounds and whatnot, scoring opportunities.

Speaker 11 (39:30):
So somebody wants wanted a challenge to look at something.

Speaker 13 (39:35):
Yeah, huh, I'm not sure exactly what it is here.
That's the discrepancy.

Speaker 10 (39:41):
But again, next weekend the Badgers will be at home.
They'll take on Maine in a two game series. Then
the following weekend they'll take on the Bulldogs of Minnesota Duluth,
so they'll be home for the next couple of weeks.
Get out to Lebond and yeah, take a look. I
think you'll be if you haven't been to a women's

(40:01):
hockey game and some time I had a couple of
friends last year that saw their first game in some time,
and they were very surprised at the quality of play,
the quickness, the speed, the talent to the people involved
in that type of thing. So you'll get the explanation
here in a couple of minutes, hopefully.

Speaker 13 (40:25):
Yeah, you come out to watch the Badgers play at
Lebon Arena, you won't go away feeling cheated, that's for sure.

Speaker 11 (40:30):
They're going to raise the banner too. I'm not sure exactly.
Do you know what series?

Speaker 13 (40:34):
I don't know if they're going to do it, you know,
this coming weekend against Meine sometime or.

Speaker 11 (40:38):
Not, probably Maine or Duluth. I honestly don't know.

Speaker 13 (40:42):
I don't either. I should find out and that.

Speaker 11 (40:44):
Kind of thing. I think they're going to hand out
the rings too.

Speaker 13 (40:48):
Yeah, that'll be nice.

Speaker 11 (40:49):
How many of you got?

Speaker 15 (40:51):
That would be my sixth, your sixth rink?

Speaker 11 (40:54):
What do you do with all those rings? Well? Are
they in a case or they're just kind of yeah
at home? Do you wear them at all?

Speaker 25 (41:02):
No?

Speaker 13 (41:03):
I don't typically. You know, they're kind of big, gaudy
almost you could wear them to a you know, a
convention in Vegas possibly, but they're yeah, I don't.

Speaker 11 (41:20):
Oh, I was they were challenging the goal down at
the other end.

Speaker 13 (41:23):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, all right.

Speaker 11 (41:26):
I don't think it went in.

Speaker 10 (41:27):
No, I don't really.

Speaker 13 (41:29):
I'd have to agree with the officials conclusion on that,
but it was close.

Speaker 11 (41:32):
It took a long time to come to that.

Speaker 26 (41:34):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (41:35):
Yeah.

Speaker 11 (41:36):
So you don't wear those rings, huh once in a while,
there's certain occasions.

Speaker 13 (41:40):
I'll put one on.

Speaker 11 (41:42):
Yeah, going back over to pick it up.

Speaker 10 (41:45):
And we're at the five minute mark in the first
period here and it's skill scoreless shots on goal. Beaver
still don't have a shot on gold, and.

Speaker 13 (41:57):
We've got pretty good puck possession.

Speaker 10 (41:58):
Man cut it off ice. Here comes Harvey coming off
the wing, coming down in the corner. Our pride to
center it and dead right out in front.

Speaker 11 (42:06):
Yeah. Girl, the first of the career for Chapa, Rappy
happy going to the net after the pass from Harvey.

Speaker 10 (42:16):
Her first goal is a Wisconsin Badgers is gonna give
her the puck.

Speaker 13 (42:20):
That's awesome. Nice to see her, you know, answer the
bell like that. She's got to be happy. I can't believe. Yeah,
happy shappy. We'll call her after that score. You know,
she plays with so mature for being a you know,
a first year freshman here. I think it's I don't
know all her international play, perhaps Paul, but she really

(42:41):
does some smart things on the ice, has a lot
of poise and uh, just great to see her go
to the net and score.

Speaker 10 (42:47):
An assisted goal and the Badgers have a one to
nothing lead like they did in the first period.

Speaker 13 (42:54):
Yeah, I love it.

Speaker 11 (42:57):
Now what are they going to do? We got another delay?

Speaker 13 (42:59):
He saw here.

Speaker 11 (43:03):
Timeout been called. I'm not sure where they gonna look
at this one. I don't know they're not gonna look.

Speaker 13 (43:11):
No, it's just going to this court. Oh, there is
a challenge.

Speaker 11 (43:18):
Offsides, so we'll take a look at this one. Yeah. Yeah,
they don't want to take away happy shappies first.

Speaker 18 (43:31):
No, No, that wouldn't be very.

Speaker 11 (43:33):
Nice, would it.

Speaker 13 (43:34):
That's not very hospitable to a person coming from another country. Yeah,
well that was a nice That was nice to see
her go to the net with it and have the
confidence to shoot it and put it away.

Speaker 11 (43:46):
There's no doubt she has a lot of ability. You
can see that already.

Speaker 13 (43:50):
Yeah, you really can. Quick hands and her size, you know,
she's five four, yeah, not very big, but she's not
afraid to go where she's gonna get challenge and holds
her own, you know, whether it's along the wall or
in front of the net, heavy traffic, she's not afraid
of it, not intimidated.

Speaker 10 (44:07):
She won the best Forward at the Women's World Championship
Rookie of the Year. She says she picked the Wisconsin
it was the best school for her. She said she
loved the city and the arena when she played there.

Speaker 13 (44:22):
That's neat.

Speaker 11 (44:24):
She's the first person from.

Speaker 10 (44:26):
Europe to play hockey for the Wisconsin Badger women's program.

Speaker 15 (44:30):
And you can bet she was heavily courted by a
lot of.

Speaker 11 (44:32):
School And so who did the recruiting? Did you go
over there?

Speaker 15 (44:38):
No, I didn't take care of that international business.

Speaker 11 (44:41):
I think that's Dan's cook, Dan, and I think I'm
bad hockey.

Speaker 13 (44:46):
You know, took care of that. You know, they do
a nice job.

Speaker 10 (44:51):
Base Off will eventually come up here. Hopefully they don't
take that goal away.

Speaker 13 (44:56):
And no, Kidd.

Speaker 11 (44:58):
Was taking a long time on the review.

Speaker 10 (45:01):
Yeah, Greg Shephard is here, the supervisor of officials. You
bet he's going to be an intermission guest with us.
After the second period, they're going to go, come on, sheep,
get those guys to get guys and gals organized.

Speaker 11 (45:15):
Let's review these things and go a little faster to
get them.

Speaker 15 (45:18):
Get them to work with that technical stuff, a little quicker.

Speaker 11 (45:23):
More laying the charter to go home right right.

Speaker 15 (45:27):
I've got a lot of goofing off to do. I've
got to get home right.

Speaker 11 (45:32):
And we'll to have the decision I think coming up
here pretty quickly.

Speaker 15 (45:40):
You know, Paul, you had commented earlier the crowd is
kind of sparse.

Speaker 11 (45:43):
I yeah, really, they're having trouble drawing a crowd agram.

Speaker 13 (45:46):
The other thing, I you know, the weather here is
so unbelievably nice right now.

Speaker 11 (45:51):
Yeah, there's a lot of boats out in the latter
you know.

Speaker 13 (45:53):
I don't know if you call it Indian summer or what,
but it's just gorgeous outside, and I bet people are
taking advantage of that and staying out doors with the
limited number of days left in the year that you
have up.

Speaker 15 (46:05):
Here before winter turns.

Speaker 13 (46:07):
It's cold shoulder at you.

Speaker 27 (46:09):
You know.

Speaker 11 (46:10):
So, uh, these two reviews are taking an awful long time.
What does that do to the momentum? If anything, at
this point.

Speaker 13 (46:17):
Of the game, it doesn't help it. I don't think,
you know, we were rolling pretty good here. We'll see
how we react after this long break. But yeah, you
can't do a whole lot for us.

Speaker 10 (46:29):
They're asking for another official, so they're still maybe hitting
a third opinion. They're they're going to ask him to
take a look, see what he thinks.

Speaker 13 (46:39):
Hopefully he's not asking he how are your computer skills?
Could you turn this thing on? You know what I mean?
You wonder I'm taking a while here.

Speaker 11 (46:50):
Now.

Speaker 10 (46:51):
They're looking up to the press box where Shepherd is.
Sheper is looking. He's watching it pretty intently down there
to see what the delay is here.

Speaker 11 (46:59):
Right, this is quite a long one. They got the
clock running.

Speaker 13 (47:09):
They're looking, Okay, here we go.

Speaker 11 (47:19):
We're going to get a decision, I think hopefully.

Speaker 15 (47:23):
Yeah, let's see what the verdict is here, Paul, Yeah, good.

Speaker 10 (47:38):
Goal, Okay, inconclusive evidence. Yeah, in other words, you're not guilty.

Speaker 11 (47:45):
Correct, correct, You're off the hook, even if it depends right.

Speaker 13 (47:54):
So, I guess they reviewed some overhead video they did.
They look if somebody's leg was over, Yeah, sides. I
think Sims was the one standing on the line.

Speaker 11 (48:02):
And yeah, so but uh, let's play hockey. Yeah, come on,
we got four minutes and forty one seconds left of
this period. Let's hit it hard.

Speaker 10 (48:14):
Badgers laid to one to nothing on the hon assistic
goal there at it's going to be played back down
and he in the zone in the corner, back in behind,
then around the boards on the far side, over the
Gorbatanco Wisconsin trying to work it out of their own zone.
You've got to give the Beavers credit. Even though they
don't have a shot on goal, they give a solid

(48:35):
effort well.

Speaker 13 (48:36):
And the other thing they'll do is they'll, you know,
when it gets in their own end, they'll they'll just
box up there. And yeah, it's hard to get through
all that traffic. You know, they guard the house pretty well, and.

Speaker 10 (48:45):
There's a front and the puck is going to be
played around to the far side. That's probably the only
way they can beat the Badgers, isn't it is try
and clog up everything.

Speaker 15 (48:55):
And yeah, they protect the house pretty well, as they say, you.

Speaker 10 (48:58):
Know, and there's a shot ont of the goal and
played back down. Maybe leave a wing back, is that
type of thing? Also kind of put three four people
in front of the net.

Speaker 13 (49:09):
Yeah, you'll see all five a unit of five pretty
much in the zone and relatively deep and learning.

Speaker 10 (49:17):
With it coming back towards center. I score Ba tankle
with it comes in over the line. Badger's lead at
one to nothing. They try to move it in Wisconsin
Oh Edwards put a move there but lost the play
and it's in the neutral zone where it's going to
be driven back down in behind their goaltender. That's gross

(49:38):
and played back in behind the net. We're down to
three fourteen remedic in the period, Wisconsin holding the zone
with it McCarthy back in the slot, back over to
Ava Murphy. Boy, there was a drive while it was
a little high, but they got it on it. They
got three four players that can really fire the puck. Yeah,
and controlling it. McCarthy in front of the goal. I

(50:00):
Scannal Man Scannal gets her fourth goal already this year.

Speaker 4 (50:05):
Wow.

Speaker 10 (50:06):
And Wisconsin takes a tune and nothing lead on a
beautiful pass from the corner.

Speaker 15 (50:12):
Man was that from McCarthy.

Speaker 13 (50:14):
Just a gorgeous pass to Scandal in the slot and
I think that was McCarthy that got it to her.
What a gorgeous goal that With two fifty six left
to go in the period, Man quick one timer, bang
right in the net.

Speaker 10 (50:28):
Great goal and Wisconsin with two up on the board
and it's going to be played. They do give it
to Maggie Scandal McCarthy.

Speaker 13 (50:38):
Yeah, I got the assistance, Yeah yeah, and beautiful.

Speaker 10 (50:40):
N that was and coming over trying to pick it
up and to play Wisconsin and right with it down
in the corner. They work the wing two thirty five
remitting in the period, Badgers with a couple up on
the boards and trying to work it ahead and right
flips it back down in the corner and playing it

(51:01):
along the boards in the corner, back in behind it
at Wisconsin with pressure. They've got thirteen shots on goal
in the first period. They had forty two in the
game last night. Here and turning with it at center
ice the play at the blue line of the Beavers
and Bamidgie State turning trying to bring it out. Stromp

(51:21):
with it on the play. It comes over and Sandberg
turned and fired it in behind McNaughton. One fifty seven
are menic in the period, Wisconsin will start out of
their own zone.

Speaker 11 (51:33):
They fired it ahead. It was tipped off the stick
of Sims.

Speaker 10 (51:37):
Sims chasing it down of the corner, worked their way loose,
got control of the buck, picked it up, skates back
out on top, drops it on the play over to Harvey.
Harvey given go jungles with a drive and it's off
the glass.

Speaker 13 (51:50):
Yeah, it got blocked with a stick, but good shot.

Speaker 10 (51:53):
And it's going to be worked on the wing near boards.
Badgers try to pick it up down to the corner,
over to Weeden. On twenty five remitting in the period
tune to nothing. Wisconsin Badgers work along the boards, Harvey
with it, holding the zone. Harvey with it, trying to
play it along the boards near side, and Wisconsin has

(52:14):
to go back to their own blue line over to
pick it up. Harvey slides it around over the jungles
on the lead that comes to Eden. Eden cuts in
over the line. There's a tip and Eden picked it
up back in the corner. Eden with it where that
line's starting to look pretty good as they play together,
they really are, and it's going to be back in

(52:34):
behind the net. We're down to forty eight seconds remitting
in the first period. Badger's up two to nothing after
winning nine to two here last night, and Controller gets
sims in between the dots.

Speaker 11 (52:47):
Fired and wide of the goal.

Speaker 13 (52:49):
The hard shot.

Speaker 10 (52:49):
We're out of the far side over to try and
pick it up and Hall does haul down in the corner,
pulls up along the back wall, tried to center it
toward the net in front.

Speaker 11 (53:00):
The Badgers control it, they'll work it around with Potter.

Speaker 10 (53:03):
Potter aroun a wrap around and the play Potter gets
it back and front, moving it in shot, block, rebound shot,
the goal just determination by Potter and the Badgers take
three to nothing laid and they score with thirteen point four.

Speaker 11 (53:23):
Seconds left in the period. Wow, was that nice?

Speaker 13 (53:28):
Just a great goal by Hall on the rebound of
who the heck drove that one to the net there?

Speaker 11 (53:34):
I think man Hall gets the goal. Yeah, and.

Speaker 13 (53:42):
That was great.

Speaker 11 (53:43):
Yeah, that was a nice goal. They call it an assist.

Speaker 13 (53:47):
Potter I think should have got the Assistan had the
initial shot.

Speaker 10 (53:51):
And we're going to come to the end of the
first period of play with the Badgers with three up
on the board, and your thoughts on the period.

Speaker 15 (54:00):
Played a lot smarter.

Speaker 13 (54:01):
We're dumping it in deep when we're getting pressured and
we're going to the front of the net without the puck,
and we're as a result, we're creating a lot better
chances more frequently.

Speaker 10 (54:10):
And Wisconsin, we'll skate to the locker room with a
three to nothing lead, the shots on goal fifteen to
nothing in.

Speaker 11 (54:18):
That first period. We'll be back.

Speaker 10 (54:21):
This is Wisconsin Badger Women's hockey, brought to you by
Oak Park Place. Harvey tried to center it and did
right out in front, the first of the career for Shapa.
Holy Boba, Happy happy going.

Speaker 13 (54:41):
To the net after the pass from Harvey.

Speaker 10 (54:43):
Her first goal is a Wisconsin Badgers is going to
give her the fuck. That's awesome and controlling McCarthy in
front cott goal by scannal Man scandal gives her fourth
goal already this year and Wisconsin shit tun or nothing
lead on a beautiful pass from the corner and the

(55:05):
play Potter gets it back and front, moving it in shot, block,
rebound shovel just determination by Potter and the Badgers and
take a thread and nothing lead add a score with
thirteen point four seconds left in the period.

This is Wisconsin Women's hockey presented by both Park.

Speaker 3 (57:31):
Plays and Welcome back Aiden Michael's here. On ten to
seventy of the game. The Badger's lead three nothing after
the first period in Bamigie, Minnesota. It took the Badgers
quite a while to take the lead. They were dominant
in that period. They led with thirty three shots to
Bomigi States two and on goal fifteen for the Badgers

(57:53):
none for the Beavers. Badgers had a powerplay chance could
not convert. They were dominant on the face offs as well,
teen to five, But it was Adela chapoval Alivova with
her first career goal from Harvey and Jungles fifteen minutes
into the first period to get the scoring started for
the Badgers. And then guess who scored the second goal.
The woman who had the hat trick last night gets

(58:16):
another one tonight. Maggie Scannal from McCarthy and Pekinhogan seventeen
minutes into the first and then had another one just
at the end of the first period. There Cassie Hall
got one with a beautiful effort from Laney Potter who
had about two or three chances on goal before she
eventually took a shot who was saved and the rebound
was cleaned up by Cassie Hall. So the Badgers with

(58:37):
the dominant first period. We talked about how last night
the Badgers only scored one goal in the first period
and then they started to pile things on in the
second and third, but a comfortable three to nothing lead
here in the first period. So we are between periods
one and two with the score three nothing to the Badgers.
I caught up with Mikayla Zillish earlier this week, and
Maggie Scannell was caught up with Paul Brown yesterday after

the hat trick. Our player profile is sponsored by Goodman Jewelers.

Speaker 4 (59:07):
Hi everyone.

Speaker 25 (59:07):
Aiden Michael Tyre with coverage of your national champion Wisconsin
Bads Room and Hockey team on ten seventy of the game.

Speaker 4 (59:13):
I am here with Mikayla's illish former the Midgie State player.
You guys play Themigie State this weekend. You're going back
to a familiar place. I know you've been there before,
but what's it going to be like to go back
to a place you called home for a couple of seasons.

Speaker 1 (59:26):
It's definitely exciting to go back.

Speaker 19 (59:28):
I'm looking forward to going there.

Speaker 25 (59:29):
On the other end, obviously, this is my family and
so it's been really cool to continue to grow with
the girls here and then being able to go back
and then put everything that we've learned together on size.
Are you going to view this game any differently because
it's against Themigie Stators. It's just business as usual for you,
Business as usual, nothing too exciting.

Speaker 30 (59:48):
Obviously familiar rings, but much more.

Speaker 25 (59:51):
Than that, this is home and I got to know,
is there going to be any fun trash talk that
you're going to dish out to your former teammates maybe
before the game and a group.

Speaker 4 (59:59):
Chat on the ice or whatever.

Speaker 25 (01:00:02):
I'm not this time around. We're going to keep it
just by proving it through our plans. So not only
is it the return to you, but it's the first
series of the title defense season.

Speaker 4 (01:00:11):
How have you been able to get back into grind
most following pretty fun offseason?

Speaker 12 (01:00:14):
Absolutely, the girls has done all training so much this
entire offseason, so we're excited to take everything we've learned
and apply it to.

Speaker 4 (01:00:20):
This first game. All right, well, thank you very much.

Speaker 25 (01:00:22):
That was Mikayla zillaish on ten seventy of the games.

Speaker 11 (01:00:25):
Maggie.

Speaker 10 (01:00:26):
When we signed off the ear last night, you had
a couple of goals. We saw the official stats later
and you had three. What happened on that third one?

Speaker 19 (01:00:33):
That was great?

Speaker 11 (01:00:34):
For the second goal when they gave you the hat trick?

Speaker 19 (01:00:37):
All right, Yeah, that was great. We were watching the
video back and I didn't know in the moment, I
know that I was going to have it, Kiky was
gonna have of Kelly. Everyone was just trying to put
it in together. It was a great play overall by
the team and it just ended up I believe that
I hit it towards the net and it went up
and over the goalie, just kind of rainbow. But it
was great that it got in there for us, and.

Speaker 10 (01:00:57):
A very good game for you. And you're playing right
now on the second line, and the coaching staff said
she's earned that. Tell me about how it's going for you.

Speaker 19 (01:01:05):
I'm really excited. As I said, I just love being
part of this team. So it's just a great experience
every day in and out of the rink, and just
putting in the work over the summer and as a team,
we've just been working so hard on and off the ice.
I'm really excited to be here and get this season started.

Speaker 11 (01:01:19):
Now, last year, you've played center, now you're on right wing.
Is this a temporary thing or can you play both spots?
Do you like either one of the two.

Speaker 19 (01:01:27):
Yeah, I'll play wherever coach needs me, So I'm excited.
I this is my first time playing winger in a while,
so I'm excited to get back into it. But wherever
coach needs me, I'll play.

Speaker 11 (01:01:36):
And you're playing with Gorbatanco and Hall as a unit.
What does the ability of those two offer to your game?

Speaker 19 (01:01:44):
I think that it's great to be able to play
with those two. Just the battles. We support each other
so well all over the ice. It's we bring speed,
and we also bring the balance of speed, but also
the battles of the game. So it's just wonderful to
be out there with those two.

Speaker 11 (01:01:56):
And when you look back on your career, Shattuck, you
scored a lot of goals and that kind of thing.
How would you evaluate how you've grown as a player
since you've been here? Where have you gotten better?

Speaker 19 (01:02:07):
I think that coming from high school, I've just got
in a lot stronger and a lot faster, just as
I've been in the gym and gotten a little bit older.
But I had just been so grateful for Shotting all
the development that I've been through there and now I Wisconsin,
just so grateful for the journey.

Speaker 11 (01:02:21):
What about the overall performance of the Badgers last.

Speaker 19 (01:02:23):
Night in that game, I was really impressed as our
first game, so it was good to kind of get
the rusted off and get going as a group with
this new group and the new players, and it was
just great to be out there together. Just seeing all
of our preseason practices come into the game.

Speaker 10 (01:02:38):
It's been great and last year obviously was fabulous. You
guys only lose one game thirty eight one and two.
As you think about that and reflect on that, what
comes to your mind about how cool that really was?

Speaker 19 (01:02:51):
Oh, that was just such a wonderful experience. It's so special,
special group, and just the way that we went out
and performed every game, no matter who we were playing.
It was just such an amazing experience.

Speaker 10 (01:03:01):
And you take a look at this year already, they're
expecting you guys to do a lot. I'm sure that
you guys don't want to talk about it, but you
know there's a lot of talent on this squad.

Speaker 11 (01:03:11):
Right, Yeah.

Speaker 19 (01:03:12):
Each year, it's so exciting to see the new players
come in and just mesh right into our group, and
it's always just a special group. And I'm so excited
to get going just second game in that we're going
into the second game, I'm so excited to see how
this team kind of transforms. So I'm excited.

Speaker 11 (01:03:27):
What would you say out of the game where you
guys could improve on from last night?

Speaker 19 (01:03:31):
I think they're just as each game goes on, we're
going to communicate more and play together. So I'm really
excited to see how we come together and our lines,
learn where everyone's going to be and just come together.

Speaker 11 (01:03:43):
It's fun to watch it. Maggie, good luck, awesome, thank
you so much.

Speaker 3 (01:03:48):
After one period in Bamidgie, it's three nothing Wisconsin. This
is Badger Women's hockey presented by Oak Park Place. I
made Michael's I'm joined by Paul Brown. Paul pretty good
first period.

Speaker 10 (01:04:00):
Yeah, especially in the end part of o where the
Badgers got a goal in which we kind of expected
them to do. And they're going to score a lot
of goals again. I think this year they return about
eighty four percent of their goal production that they had
from last year and about eighty percent of the points.

(01:04:20):
So obviously they're going to run into a lot of
stiffer competition as they.

Speaker 11 (01:04:25):
Go through the year. But you can see it.

Speaker 10 (01:04:28):
There is a large number of very talented players on
this team and they're very, very deep, and to do
what they've done so far, you just know that it's
going to get.

Speaker 11 (01:04:42):
Better and better as the season goes on.

Speaker 3 (01:04:45):
Absolutely, And how about Maggie's scan Al West are placing
in the fourth line tonight but gets another goal, picking
up just where she left off last night.

Speaker 10 (01:04:52):
Well, she had a great career when you look at
she won three straight championships when she played at.

Speaker 11 (01:04:59):
Shattick and.

Speaker 10 (01:05:01):
Those championships and she had a lot of gold production there.
She was also captain of that team, so she's had
a history. She had eighteen points last year in her
freshman year and made the All Rookie team. And they
really like her. They like the way she plays, the
dedication to it and that kind of thing. So a

(01:05:22):
very solid player who looks like she's going to turn
into potentially a nice offensive threat for the team as well.

Speaker 3 (01:05:29):
Absolutely a breakout player certainly to look out for. And
how about a first career goal for Shoppie. It's getting
the scoring start and beautiful individual effort there.

Speaker 11 (01:05:37):
Yeah, it really was.

Speaker 10 (01:05:40):
You can see, as we mentioned earlier in the game,
you can see the talent, the ability to pass the puck.
She also looks very creative and it reminds me a
little bit of some players that have that instinct we'd
a goal in certain situation, like if Sims has the puck,
she's kind of cruising out by the dots. It's like

(01:06:02):
she's looking around and taking a look and kind of thinking, well,
maybe I ought to go there and that kind of thing.
So my impression would be I may be wrong, but
I think she has great instincts too in terms of
worrying where the puck is on the ice in those
kind of situations. I think she's going to develop very nicely.
The critical thing will be her size, you know. I'm

(01:06:26):
sure the word's going to get around and they're going
to start getting a little physical with her in that
kind of thing.

Speaker 11 (01:06:32):
But it'll be fun to watch.

Speaker 3 (01:06:34):
It absolutely will be fun to watch. And I want
to talk about Leyla Edwards quick as well. Playing on
the right wing. We know she can play anywhere, even
on defense as we've seen with Team USA and sometime
with Madison last year, but her on right wing, what
do we think.

Speaker 10 (01:06:48):
I think she belongs up on the wing, and I'm
not convinced that Mark doesn't feel that way too. I
think what may be going on, and this is quite honestly,
it's maybe speculation on my point on my part, I mean,
but I know that for the women's Olympic team, they
want a player on defense, and maybe Mark is giving

(01:07:12):
her an opportunity to see what she can do there.
But my goodness, when you've got somebody that led the
nation in goals last year with thirty five, and she's
got a canon as a shot. It'll be interesting to
see how that develops throughout the year. And if you
talk to her, she's going to say the right thing

(01:07:32):
and say, well, I'll play wherever they want me to play.
And I believe she believes that, but in her heart
of hearts, I wonder if she wouldn't rather play up
from I don't know.

Speaker 3 (01:07:41):
It is interesting because, like you said, it's quite funny
if you're an opposing team looking at the scattering report
and say, oh, she led the nation and goals last year,
why is she playing defense? But she really is just
that good. And obviously her sister Shayla played defense here
at UW Madison. But you know, you wish you could
have a team of all Leila Edwards for every position.
I'm sure if you put her in goals she'd do
the job as well.

Speaker 10 (01:08:01):
And the coaching staff said last year, and I know
they were very sincere in what they were saying is
she has the natural ability to be a great player.
She just has to believe in herself, which she is
starting to do. But they go if she can get
that total confidence in her game. There's going to be

(01:08:23):
a high level of skill and accomplishment for her in
the future.

Speaker 3 (01:08:27):
No, absolutely, And how about that. I mean, I love
that line with Gorbatango, Hall and Edwards. It's been really
good in terms of production. Cassie Hall getting that third
goal and then talking about Laney Potter who had that
amazing assist. She was just relentless on that zone entry,
taking a couple of shots, eventually taking that shot to
get that rebound loose for Hall to slott it in.

(01:08:47):
She's been pretty good.

Speaker 11 (01:08:49):
Hey, Greenie's back. What was it in the locker room?

Speaker 13 (01:08:51):
Well, Mark was happy with our effort today and in
that first period, especially as an example, and I think
even just touched upon it, Potter going to the nethart
driving the net heart, you know, creating that great opportunity
on the rebound that's right there for our third goal
because you know Hall was right there to bang it in.
But it started with a good effort by Potter driving

(01:09:14):
the net.

Speaker 11 (01:09:14):
So we'll period, take a break, and we'll be back
with a second period.

Speaker 10 (01:09:18):
This is Wisconsin Badger Women's Hockey, brought to you by
Oak Parkway Monica.

Speaker 14 (01:09:23):

You and the design team have outdone yourselves. Are you
talking about the one collection? Those rings say you are

Speaker 14 (01:09:34):
Every ring in the one Collection should be presented with
a special ritual.

Speaker 1 (01:09:37):
What would that ritual be?

Speaker 14 (01:09:39):
You pick up her left hand and you place a
kiss on her.

Speaker 21 (01:09:41):
Ring finger rick, you never told me about that part.

Speaker 14 (01:09:44):
Then you show her the tiny red diamond flesh mounted
inside the ring that will forever be in contact with
her finger. Why is it red, Because that's when the
giver says to the one, wherever you go, my heart
goes with you.

Speaker 21 (01:09:57):
I give you this kiss, I give you my heart.
The red diamond is a secret symbol of that sacred moment.

Speaker 22 (01:10:03):
The center diamond on the outside of the ring is

We're in the start of the second period here they've
played a few seconds before we get back from the
commercial break.

Speaker 11 (01:10:45):
Moving it in.

Speaker 10 (01:10:46):
Here's Cassie Hall with the drive. Lot of the net
was partially blocked. Badger's getting from our right to our
left here in the second period with a three to
zheing lead, and both teams at full strength. Whistle and
plays good to be stopped and we'll have the face
off coming up. Badgers are going to change up lines here,

(01:11:07):
go ahead.

Speaker 13 (01:11:08):
Greeny got a penalty here. They're sending Corbatanko to the box,
so we'll be on the penalty kill.

Speaker 10 (01:11:15):
That's coming at one one of the second period. Here
Gorbatanko in the box. First penalty on Wisconsin and it's
going to be a power play situation for the Beavers,
the second penalty of the weekend. Only for the Badgers.
They had won late in the game last night and

(01:11:38):
now on the penalty kill. And who's out on the
penalty kill.

Speaker 11 (01:11:43):
We got.

Speaker 10 (01:11:44):
Shappy is out on the penalty killed coming over to
pick it up. Eden is out as well, and Aba
Murphy is one of the penalty killers and they'll set
it up. There's Armstrong with a drive and it's going
to be blocked and comes back out back for the Badgers.

(01:12:05):
It's Venusio along with Murphy and Eden play along the
boards on the near side over to try and pick
it up. They fire it around the boards, skating over
holding it in and the play came out of the
zone tip back in. Badgers look to pick it up
and they'll drive it out toward the length of the
ice on the near boards and going back of it

(01:12:26):
to set it up as bray of the beavers, and
they drive it the length of the ice and they
go back and an icing will be called against Bamigi State.

Speaker 13 (01:12:36):
Yeah, Murphy just wisely sent it the full length of
the ice there so we could get a change. They
were out there a little while.

Speaker 10 (01:12:42):
One minute remaining in the penalty time to Kelly Gorbatanco.
Her two sisters are with the Badger program as well.
They're on the roster. They are not here this weekend.
Over back over to set it up and the play
controlled by the Beavers. They try to head man it
up the ice intended for Kaiser trying to skate it down.

(01:13:05):
Johnson hustled behind the Badger net Wisconsin. We'll flip it
off the glass on the near side in the neutral
zone and right turns and we'll dump it down. Block
shows thirty eight seconds remitting in the power play. As
the Beavers start out of their own zone, man advantage
up the far boards front of the Badger bench rank

(01:13:26):
Watt on the play they come in. There was a
drive that was taken by Mkuba and it was blocked
and turned away. Skating back is Comstock nice blocked by Jungles.
Comstock goes in behind the app she fired it around
on the far side, gets the return pass. Seventeen to
ten remaining in the second period and seven seconds in

(01:13:49):
the Badger's Gorbatanko will come out of the box moving
it in whistle and they're offside on the power play
and a couple of seconds the door will be opened.
Number seven, the junior Corbatanko will come out from Barrington, Illinois.
She's a pretty good basketball shooter. You watch her game well,

(01:14:12):
and she's got the height for it makes a lot
of shots.

Speaker 11 (01:14:15):
Yeah, loves it.

Speaker 15 (01:14:16):
The coordinated athlete.

Speaker 11 (01:14:18):
Around on the far side over to control it. She
can shoot the basket. I'll tell you what.

Speaker 10 (01:14:24):
I've played down in the corner on the near side
over to tri and control it. We have sixteen forty
six remaitting here. In the second period, Badgers start out
of their own zone, coming through center ice. They come
in over the line. Simms is out with Scannel and
Harvey on the play. Coming back over to control it
is Lelea Edwards. There's Leila on the rush, comes in

(01:14:47):
over the line, trying to work her way loose in
the corner on the near side, and the puck goes
high in the air. Scannal blocks and knocks that down.
Harvey will hold the zone and plays it around on
the far side. Magic on her stick there just magic
and played down the wing near boards, and with its scandal,

(01:15:10):
tried to fire.

Speaker 11 (01:15:10):
It to Sims in front of that.

Speaker 10 (01:15:13):
Sims down in the corner, played it on the near
side of rolls around to the near boards and the
Beavers turn and look they still do not have them
listed as a shot.

Speaker 11 (01:15:24):
On goal in this game.

Speaker 13 (01:15:25):
That's something, isn't it?

Speaker 11 (01:15:27):
It's unbelievable.

Speaker 10 (01:15:28):
Back over trying to control it back in behind the
Badgers with fifteen as it's up on the board, but
they've got three on the board as well. Laid around
in the neutral zone over to try and pick it up.
Comes back into the line, coming in off the wing.
Some pressure there, there's a shot. Yeah, that may undoubtedly

(01:15:50):
I think got through, didn't it.

Speaker 15 (01:15:52):
Yeah, I thought so. And there's another one yep.

Speaker 11 (01:15:54):
So there might be a couple of them put up
on the board finally there for sure.

Speaker 15 (01:16:00):
Yeah, a douple good saves there.

Speaker 13 (01:16:03):
I thought.

Speaker 11 (01:16:04):
That's tough to play, isn't it.

Speaker 13 (01:16:06):
Yeah, when you don't see any action for these long stretches,
I mean, you know, almost twenty five minutes and they
didn't have a shot.

Speaker 11 (01:16:12):
On goal, it's hard to concentrate when you're not getting
telling the goaltender have to do in that Situay just
total concentrates.

Speaker 15 (01:16:19):
To just remain calm and just state keep your head
in the game.

Speaker 11 (01:16:23):
Find a way to do that, you know, round on
the far side, over to try and pick it up.

Speaker 10 (01:16:29):
Played back down in the corner, back in behind the net,
Wisconsin looking to bring it out of the zone, laying
it up Ice. A badger went down in the neutral zone.
That was Gorbatanco. Quickly pop back up. Binucio will handle it.
You'll come out of the zone. Fired it off on
the break. It's gotta be tipped back down in the corner.

(01:16:50):
Back of it to Weedon, who ustle behind the net
over to pick it up. Badger's worked behind the net.
Gorbatanco down again, coming over to pick that up. Along
the boards with its Eden in the corner eating a
couple of goals. In game one, Sims had a couple
and they work it trying to kick it loose in

(01:17:10):
the corner. That's Eden and Gorbatanko works it loose, but
it was swept off her stick and controlled. As Smith
brings it up. Ice comes in over the line. Tried
to work her way through another shot. That one was
taken and blocked by Ava McNaughton, fired by Sandberg.

Speaker 13 (01:17:30):
You know, if I was a gambling man, I would
bet on Eden every time when there's a battle along
the wall.

Speaker 11 (01:17:35):
You know, a fifty to fifty boy. She comes up
with a lot of those, doesn't she. Yep, she's very good.

Speaker 10 (01:17:40):
We're going to take a break. This is Wisconsin. Badger
women's hockey.

Speaker 29 (01:17:45):
Falling in love doesn't have to be expensive and goodness, Steelers,
we can site you up with perfect cap from a
sterling silver diamond pendant. Maybe you want a custom piece
that reflects the feelings that you both have for each other,
caring for generations of customers, Goodman's Steelers in the heart
of downtown Men.

Speaker 26 (01:18:00):

Speaker 10 (01:18:18):
Shap Bola boa is in the penalty box and Wisconsin
shorthanded a person here Wisconsin's second Bentley of the game
and the power play for the Beavers. They've got four
shots on goal, but they're down three to nothing in
the game, and Wisconsin will turn and they lift it

(01:18:38):
high in the air. It rolls back down along the
boards on the far side over to try and pick
it up, and turning coming back up ice control to
get his KUIs or pardon me, it's armstrong Armstrong looking
for help with the Badgers. Bring it up Ice and
right comes in over the line and ride with it.
Whipped it around off the back wall. It rolls in

(01:18:59):
the corner. Her over to hustle and pick it up.
She carried it behind the net. Potter works around from
in the corner, goes out in front. Big body there
along with Eden. They try to hold the zone. Ice
effort though on the penalty kill by Eden and Potter.

Speaker 15 (01:19:15):
Yeah, great determination.

Speaker 11 (01:19:16):
Potter can really skate for her size, can't.

Speaker 15 (01:19:19):
Kid and she moves those feet. She's not standing still.

Speaker 10 (01:19:23):
Thirty nine seconds remitting in the penalty time and it's
going to be worked up Ice and chasing it back
is McCarthy. Finley McCarthy out of Whitefish, Montana, first player
from Montana to play for the Badgers. A little pile
up in the zone of the Badgers.

Speaker 11 (01:19:40):
Yeah, to moving it in.

Speaker 10 (01:19:41):
There's a shot save point mccotton point blank against Gettle. Wow, Wow,
that was great, say there and coming back over to
control of twelve twenty four remitting may not have been
Gett was Gettle or Armstrong nine but regardless of nice safe, Yeah,

(01:20:03):
I was and back at full strength. Badgers don't allow
the power play opportunity. So the Beaver's a row of two.
They had one penalty in the game and Wisconsin didn't score,
and it's going to go all the way back down
along the back wall in the Beavers zone. Sixteen to
five and shots eleven fifty five are mengan the period

(01:20:24):
trying to move in and the playing Edwards right in
front of the goal can't get off the drive. There's
blocked off the stick of McNaughton who fired it out
to center ice. Cassie Hall, the Sims to Edwards, Edwards
to Sims.

Speaker 11 (01:20:41):
Little give and go.

Speaker 10 (01:20:43):
They come back to the point, but nobody's home and
the Badgers go all the way back and McKenzie Jones
there to pick it up from the lead to Haul
who worked it in over the line. Sims is working
in along with Pekinhaugen and Sims with it. Sims with
it or around to Peekanhaugen moving it and Cassie Hall
with the drives tried to go upstairs short side. Great

(01:21:06):
shot they see and uh eleven oh nine remaining in
the period and here's a break coming in all alone
moving it in. Shot blocked by Avian McConell. All of
a sudden, the Beavers have gotten three life, yeah, life
and scoring opportunities. They're up to six shots here in
the last short period of time. They had some breakaway

(01:21:30):
opportunities there.

Speaker 13 (01:21:32):
Yeah, to go from no not seeing any pucks at all,
the point blank shots.

Speaker 10 (01:21:37):
If she was concentrating fully, she is now right right
and the play in front of the Beaver bench coming over,
trying to pick it up along the boards on the
far side, and it's going to be banged off the boards,
and control was constant trying to bring it out and whistle,

(01:21:57):
and play is going to be stopped here. We're nearing
the halfway mark of the second period. Three nothing Wisconsin,
Well there was some activity there. Yeah, see where Minnesota
handled Boston College.

Speaker 11 (01:22:10):
Over the way they Whitewashington eleven nothing was eleven nothing wow.

Speaker 13 (01:22:14):
Last night yesterday, you know, Maine was deadlock with Quinnipiac
right now today and that's who we face next week.
So that'll be interesting to see how Molly Instrom's brought
that program along over in Maine.

Speaker 10 (01:22:26):
You know, the Hall of Famer like you in Wisconsin,
and she's in the uw Sports Hall of Fame, though Yeah,
she's quite a quite a gall quite an athlete, the
same one you're in too, Yeah, right a couple of
years ago.

Speaker 15 (01:22:40):
Yeah, yeah, she's from Syrian Wisconsin there.

Speaker 10 (01:22:43):
Yeah, played up Ice on the far side coming over
to pick it up and play goes. The Badgers controlled
it nine nine reminic in the period here, Wisconsin moving
it in, shot block and trying to controlled it, and
it's going to be worked up Ice coming back in

(01:23:03):
over the line, and Sandberg trying to skate it down. Boy,
they're playing with a little energy here, Sam with a
shot right out in front.

Speaker 11 (01:23:14):
Little careless going on.

Speaker 15 (01:23:15):
Yeah, can't be blase around the net.

Speaker 11 (01:23:18):
Yeah, man moving it in.

Speaker 10 (01:23:19):
There's another drive and it's blocked and going to be
cleared and uh Themedgi State putting out a solid effort here.

Speaker 13 (01:23:29):
Yeah they are. They don't go away.

Speaker 10 (01:23:30):
Nine minutes and nine seconds remitting skating back in over
the line, controlling it as Elverson turned and flipped it
down in the corner. Ava Murphy back of it to
pick it up, goes behind the at and it's controlled.
Wisconsin along the back wall in the BAMIGI state zone
and Wisconsin trying to go to the point they hold

(01:23:52):
it in with it as Sims. Sims moving it around
on the far wing, goes behind the at slapping her stick.
Ava Murphy shot at high and why and it's controlled
in Eden with it down in the corner. Eden controlling
the puck given go on the plate of Sims. Back
over to Murphy shot at wine good gets picked up

(01:24:14):
and control. Here's potter. They had Sims in front of
the goal and it's going to be cleared back down
the ice and Ava Murphy with it, flipped it out
on the brake and that pass intercepted coming back into
the line. Wisconsin trying to get it out of the zone.
Here back over on the wing, controlling it in the corner.

(01:24:36):
Badger's down deep in the zone. Were down to eight
oh two remedting in the period, it's still three one,
eighteen to six in shots and Wisconsin trying to bring
it out.

Speaker 13 (01:24:50):
Well, we've seen the bumidgie state come to life here
a little bit in the last five minutes.

Speaker 10 (01:24:54):

their own zone. Man coming up Ice controlling it. Here's
Gorbatanko one on one also break into the net. Venusio
shot and that went off the board.

Speaker 15 (01:26:12):
Yeah, a nice pass by Gorbatanko.

Speaker 11 (01:26:15):
And coming over to try and pick it up.

Speaker 10 (01:26:17):
And Venusia with another drive that s knocked a side
in front and back out and Mackenzie Jones hopped over
the stick and Venusio go back. Here's Venusio with it
flies it out of the break over to Leiley Edwards
and it was swept off her stick. Coming from behind
was Comstock to take it away. Layla a lot bigger

(01:26:40):
than hers. I don't even know if she's seen her.
She skated right on the oh. Right in front was
Cassie Hall. Here's Cassie with a shot. She flipped that
weapon over the glass and out of play Boy.

Speaker 15 (01:26:54):

That's interesting here, Paul shots or even in this period
six to six, as far as this period alone goes, Beaver's.

Speaker 15 (01:28:25):
Kind of came to life stretch.

Speaker 11 (01:28:26):
There were Yeah, they were in a short flurry at
yep and recapping the goals of the game.

The year with McCarthy getting one assist.

Speaker 10 (01:29:07):
We'll pick it up here in a minute and then
the third goal, of course, was scored by Cassie Hall.
So the Badgers with three on the board here in
this hockey game, six thirty five remitting in the third period,
play comes up ice there's a potential break again coming
in over the line and the ice. Wow, was that

(01:29:28):

Harvey get away yep, and that's gonna be scandal down
in the corner. Scannal tried to center, but it went
in on the goaltender and she covers it up and makes.

Speaker 13 (01:29:40):
The same Paul that the what preceded that breakway is
exactly what coach said, you know, we want to work
on and not do. We were doing a little bit yesterday,
and that's you get pressure and you're trying to stick
handle in the neutral zone and then we got it stripped.

Speaker 15 (01:29:52):
You know, that's you feel the pressure. Dump it in deep.
Scannal tried to wheel through two people in the neutral zone.
It ain't gonna work.

(01:36:23):
period going back over to set it. Up mackenzie jones
around of the play and they'll flip it up the
boards and it's going to roll back down in the
corner and we'll have a face off coming up with
one twenty nine remaining in the.

Speaker 11 (01:36:36):
PERIOD i like What jones did.

Speaker 13 (01:36:38):
There she defended, well went, back got the, puck got
it up and out of the zone. Quickly it ended
up deflecting too far off. Somebody but uh so it
was a nice but she did the right. Thing jones
made a good defensive playback, there first time playing here
as a.

Speaker 10 (01:36:52):
Freshman badgers will leave immediately after the game this, afternoon
and they'll be back In madison probably around seven seven
point thirty somewhere in that. Vicinity took a charter up
here along the boards on the right, side controlling. It

(01:37:12):
about a seven and a half eight hour drive to
get up, here and much nicer the other.

Speaker 13 (01:37:19):

could almost make happy Hour paul, tonight but not.

Speaker 11 (01:37:25):

Speaker 10 (01:37:44):
Beavers you never, know you, know that used to be
something in the old days on the men's side when
they when they, chartered you, know with the prop jet
and oh, yeah the media contingent on the men's side
was a pretty big.

Speaker 11 (01:37:57):
Group and when they go To michigan And michigan's.

Speaker 10 (01:38:00):

Yeah Mike, Lucas oh, Jeeze Denny, helwig we can go
right down the list. Now of Course danny wasn't involved
with the, media but he was part of the. Group

pick it up in the. Slot we got a, penalty,
yeah or whistle and, uh we're, Off gozeva.

Speaker 15 (01:38:58):
Cuba's going to the box for The Midgee.

Speaker 10 (01:39:00):

you Got laila's out on the power, Play you've Got harvey,
Out eaton is, out And sim's playing the point and
they're moving it Up ice controlling it coming out of the.

(01:39:21):

out the. Time Here layla back of her to pick
it up off on the, break and they fire it
up on the break coming in on the, line and
there's a.

Speaker 11 (01:39:33):
Drive and your thoughts in the end of two periods of, Play, well.

Speaker 13 (01:39:38):
We yielded a lot of high percentage shots that, period
like about seven of. Them, yeah like really high percentage
point blank or. BREAKAWAYS i think somebody will probably say something.
ELSE i think they'll get, mentioned and we don't want
to have yield any more of. Those let's put it that,
way all.

Speaker 10 (01:39:53):

Me it's almost fifty years what's it do for?

Speaker 28 (01:43:42):
You SO i started IN wha in nineteen seventy, seven.

Speaker 11 (01:43:46):
So you've been around a long.

Speaker 28 (01:43:48):
Time long, time some people think too.

Speaker 11 (01:43:50):
Long, yeah same thing for, me and that kind of.

Speaker 10 (01:43:52):
Thing when you look at all of that and you
kind of sit and relax sometimes and think about what
the college game is meant.

Speaker 11 (01:44:00):
To you and that kind of, thing what comes to?
Mind what are some of the.

Speaker 28 (01:44:03):
Highlights i'll tell. YOU i think the most important thing
is the people you.

Speaker 11 (01:44:06):
Meet me over the.

Speaker 31 (01:44:08):
Years you, know hockey is such a small group of,
people and you've met some great, people you, know the,
coaches the, players you. KNOW i, think AND i hate to,
SAY i don't hate to say, THIS i Think wisconsin
has some of the best players that were the most
THAT i got along with the.

Speaker 28 (01:44:25):
Best you. KNOW i always liked going To Dane. County
it was.

Speaker 31 (01:44:28):
Crazy you always walk by the beer, garden you, know
and as yell at.

Speaker 28 (01:44:31):
You but, no, no, no, no, no you'ren't coach, seller but,
no you, know it's just the.

Speaker 31 (01:44:41):
PEOPLE i think in, general all the years That I've
i've worked, here both men and. WOMEN i just think
the people you, meet it's you can't beat.

Speaker 11 (01:44:50):
Better.

Speaker 31 (01:44:50):
People you, know you see them on the, street they
say hi to, You and it's just been it's been
fantastic for. ME i know, that you know it's going
to be coming to an And i'm sure sooner or,
later but it's just. Been, uh it's been. Great i've
enjoyed every minute of. It it's been an honored to
be part of the w c H a. Refereeing you,
know seeing some great, Coaches Herb, brooks you, know, uh

(01:45:10):
And Jeff sower And Ralph backstrom And Gino gasparini and
and those guys are all.

Speaker 28 (01:45:16):
Gone you.

Speaker 31 (01:45:17):
Know you go to the meetings In florida now AND
i don't know anybody. ANYMORE i mean they're all young.

Speaker 28 (01:45:22):
KIDS i don't know.

Speaker 13 (01:45:22):
Them.

Speaker 10 (01:45:23):
Yeah And i'll tell you what when you talk about
people that truly you loved and that kind of, thing
AND i can mention two of, them and you know
Who i'm going, with and.

Speaker 11 (01:45:32):
That's Jeff sauer And Mike. Shortage. Uh you talk about
the cream of the, crops there's two of them right.

Speaker 28 (01:45:37):
There you know what Is i've Known jeff for a long,
time you, know he's The Saint paul.

Speaker 31 (01:45:42):
Guy, Yeah and, uh and same With, mike you, know
and on the, ice, uh you, know when they're behind the,
bench they were you, know, coaches they were.

Speaker 28 (01:45:49):
Crazy but when when it was all over, with they were.
Dynamite And i'll tell you.

Speaker 31 (01:45:53):
Something, uh you, Know, mike you, know passed away and
Then jeff Or jeff passed away Than, mike and it
was it was, devastating you.

Speaker 28 (01:46:00):
Know it was just two great.

Speaker 31 (01:46:02):
Guys and you, Know jeff helped me out after he
got out of coaching as far as.

Speaker 28 (01:46:07):
Supervising and you couldn't find better people than. Them two.

Speaker 10 (01:46:11):
Gentlemen and let's talk about your current position and that
type of thing with the W.

Speaker 11 (01:46:16):
Ccha no really big rule changes this, year is? There?

Speaker 1 (01:46:20):
No you, know not.

Speaker 31 (01:46:21):
REALLY i, mean THE wha itself is going to an
experimental rule of high, sticking unlimited high sticking for conference games. Only,
okay so when you play non, conference we go back
to THE ncaa, rule which is four shoulder length at
center ice and four feet to score a.

Speaker 28 (01:46:39):
Goal but IN.

Speaker 31 (01:46:40):
Wha league play all year, long you'll see that it's
unlimited high. Sticking you can hit the puck as hig
as you on into the net all over the, ice
and the Games i've seen last week In Saint cloud
And brainer With minnesota And brimidgee and then last night and,
here you, Know i've only seen one high sticking along the.
Boards other than, THAT i haven't seen Any.

Speaker 11 (01:47:01):
You think it's a good, move you know, WHAT i don't.

Speaker 31 (01:47:03):
Know LIKE i told the coaches when we had our
get together our, MEETING i just, said you, know the
thing you got to be careful about is if a
player does high stick a puck and a player would
hit somebody in the, Head now do you call it
two for high? Sticking do you call it five for
contact to the? Head do you throw them out of the.
Game that's the thing you got to be careful careful.

(01:47:25):
Of AND i think that is a referees' decision how
they look at, That and that's my only.

Speaker 28 (01:47:31):
Concern, otherwise you, KNOW i don't.

Speaker 31 (01:47:33):
Know and you, know like YESTERDAY i talked to As Jeff,
fulton he's the rules that are about hand. Pass hand
pass is, safer but we don't allow a hand pass
anywhere on the, ice even in our defensive. Zone And
i'd like to see that in the defensive. Zone but
we'll see about the high, sticking you, Know Brad frost
And minnesota pushed, it and we'll see what.

Speaker 10 (01:47:52):
Happens you, know when you think about it from the
standpoint of the game itself, officiated it seems as though
is there a.

Speaker 11 (01:48:03):
Challenge even finding people that want to be officials?

Speaker 28 (01:48:07):
Today, well you know, what, YES i guess there is
in a. Way you, know people, see especially at the.

Speaker 31 (01:48:14):
Younger, level parents are yelling at the officials all.

Speaker 28 (01:48:18):
The, time and and it's, just, yeah people don't want
to do.

Speaker 19 (01:48:22):
It you.

Speaker 31 (01:48:22):
Know i've had some, players you, know you want to
get into, officiating and you know, WHAT i don't.

Speaker 28 (01:48:26):
WANT i can't say it on the air what they tell,
Me SO i just think it is. Tougher you. KNOW
Usa hockey is.

Speaker 31 (01:48:33):
Doing a pretty darn good job of bringing along, officials
And i'd like to get more female officials in our,
league you.

Speaker 28 (01:48:40):
Know so it's a women's, league and we've picked up
three more this. Year, Linesman i've got about eight or nine,
now which is really.

Speaker 31 (01:48:48):
Good you, know when we first started out twenty seven years,
ago we had quite a, few and then we kind
of lost, some you, know they became mothers and stuff like,
that and kind of lost. Them and now they're now
they're coming back a little, bit which is good because you,
know you got to train, them got to break them.
In and the most important thing is we got good
coaches in our. League they're not screaming and yelling at,

(01:49:11):
them AND i think that that helps out. Too you,
know as long as they can. Communicate to, me that's
the most important, thing is communicate with the players and the.

Speaker 10 (01:49:20):
Coaches speaking of the, league they're going to get a
new building in the, league this one in The Twin,
cities AND i think it'll be great for the. Program
and That's Saint thomas and that's also where The final
five is going to, be, right.

Speaker 31 (01:49:32):
Yeah you, know it is the only. Thing the only
downfall is the other. Rink high school rink was about
five minutes from my, house so that.

Speaker 10 (01:49:40):
Rink was colder than the hell holdest RINK i Think
i've ever.

Speaker 31 (01:49:44):
BEEN i always wore long under WHEN i went. There but,
NO i haven't seen the new, one BUT i heard
it's a state of the.

Speaker 11 (01:49:50):
Arc and what do you think of the status of
women's game right now in the. LEAGUE i think our.

Speaker 31 (01:49:56):
League you, Know i'm, prejudiced you, Know i've been here
twenty seven years AND i think out of twenty, seven
we won the national championship twenty.

Speaker 11 (01:50:03):
FIVE i think the other league's gotta be getting tired
of the.

Speaker 28 (01:50:06):
Well you, Know i'm sure they. ARE i, mean our
league is just, tough you.

Speaker 31 (01:50:09):
Know from people don't realize just because Maybe bermidge you
would finished last, place there's still a tough. TEAM i,
mean no matter who you play from one to eight
that you, know like on A friday Or, saturday you
never know what's going to. Happen anybody can. WIN i
Know wisconsin has won the national championship a number of.
Times same With, Minnesota ohio a couple of. Times and

(01:50:31):
they're supposed to be more or less the cream and.

Speaker 28 (01:50:33):
A cop Crop.

Speaker 31 (01:50:34):
Duluth but yet these teams like bermidging, them they play,
hard they play, good and you never know what's going
to happen when they play the.

Speaker 10 (01:50:42):
Game, jiff we could keep, talking but we're out of.
Times thanks for stopping by.

Speaker 28 (01:50:46):
Anytime and you, know LIKE i, said it's an honor
to be in A. Wha take.

Speaker 11 (01:50:49):
Care, okay That's Greg. Sheppard we'll be back after this time.

Speaker 10 (01:50:53):
Out this Is Wisconsin Badger Women's hockey brought to you
By Oak Park play.

Speaker 3 (01:51:00):
And we'll welcome you back in. Studio Aiden michael's here with.
You thanks TO pb for that. Interview after two, periods
The badgers lead for. Nothing they only scored one goal
in that. Period it Was Leila edwards who got the,
goal her first of the, year From harvey And gorbatenko
at fifteen fifty. Five, now the first goal in the
first period came fifteen minutes or so into the first.
Period the second, goal or excuse, me the fourth goal

(01:51:22):
came at that almost at that exact time into the second.
Period so it took a little bit of time for
The badgers to get rolling in both of those. Periods
but they STILL i don't want to say the s word,
shutout BUT i GUESS i just did so MAYBE i
just jinxed, It but so, Far avian McNaughton has had
some big saves to make few breakaway chances For Bimigi.
State they actually did pretty well in this period compared

(01:51:43):
to the first. Period The badgers were dominant in that first,
period But Bamigie state started to come, back AND i
think a lot of it had to do with the face.
Offs The badgers still lead twenty to fifteen in terms
of faceoff. Wins but The Bamigie state beavers. ONE i
think it was around eight or nine in that second period.
Alone so they came back and started creating chances in
that counterattacking From Bimidgie state was pretty good. Too but

(01:52:05):
LIKE i, Said abam McNaughton was shut down so, far
not to not too many big ones to worry.

Speaker 11 (01:52:11):
About bram.

Speaker 3 (01:52:12):
Mcnotch you had to make a couple point blank, says
but all in all pretty easy ones for. Her and
AS i, said The badgers lead four to nothing heading
into the third. Period they're going to have a power
play when we come. Back Lola maqueba went off two
minutes for. Hooking that's going to carry over to the
Third so The badgers will start the third period off
with the power. Play so far both teams zero for
