Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome into the Jay and K Security Solutions basketball postgame show.
I'm your host Dave Gasper, joined by Nick Bruswiz. Wisconsin
keeps on chugging, blowing out the Minnesota Golden Gophers eighty
to fifty nine. You can join the conversation with us
on the hotline six eight three two one thirteen ten.

(00:21):
Wisconsin started slow tonight. They went without Max Klesmet. They
fell down by ten five minutes into the game, then
went on a series of runs. This was a one
point game at halftime. Then the Badgers just buried the
Gophers in the second half, forcing turnovers, taking advantage of them,
and running away with this one in a twenty one

(00:42):
point blowout victory at the Cole Center. Nick, it was
a little worrisome there in the first half, but this
game was the second half was a lot more like
the team we've seen these last several games.

Speaker 2 (00:55):
Yeah, it's like that classic meme video of that high
school football player where they say they had us in
the first half knockingna Lie thirty to twenty nine at
the break, suggests that you've got a very close game,
and then this one got as far apart as seventy
eight forty nine before a few garbage time buckets from
Minnesota made it a twenty one point loss. So yeah,

(01:17):
no doubt about it. An adjustment without Max Klesman. We've
all had a lot of comments about klesmid season as
a whole, the production or lack thereof in a lot
of games this season, but it does show you the
impact he has simply being on the floor when it
looks as disjointed early as it did against an opponent
like Minnesota, who is not the class of the conference in.

Speaker 3 (01:38):
My opinion, far from it.

Speaker 2 (01:40):
They're coming off of the game where they lost in
double overtime to Ohio State, a really emotional loss for them.
So thirty points in the first half for Wisconsin not
enough in my opinion. But they turned it around greatly
in the second half, and it wasn't a game come
eight minutes into the second half.

Speaker 3 (01:56):
He felt like, Okay, yeah, this one's over. Just coast
to the finish line.

Speaker 4 (01:59):
Yea.

Speaker 1 (02:00):
And this one really the series with Minnesota going back
the last several games, they have been very, very close.
All of the last five six games between Wisconsin and
Minnesota have been decided by six points or fewer. I
mean just looking back here, sixty six to sixty, sixty eight,

(02:20):
sixty seven, sixty three to sixty seventy one, sixty seven,
sixty one, fifty nine. All of these were wins for Wisconsin.
By the way, Wisconsin now has a eight game winning
streak over the Golden Gophers here in basketball, but the
last several have been very close matchups. And as the
first half was going, it's like, okay, one point game

(02:43):
of the half, this is probably going to be another
one of these games where it's super close and it
comes down to the wire. But Wisconsin just just pulled
away without one of their starters. Yes, Minnesota had had
that kind of a you know, emotional loss, but really
Wisconsin just kept coming after Minnesota and there was really
not enough answer. Dawston Garcia did the best that he

(03:06):
could to try and keep up with Wisconsin. Him and
his frosted tips over there. I have not seen that
as a hairstyle in quite some time, but Dawson Garcia
was rocking him and he rocked it for twenty two
points in this game.

Speaker 4 (03:19):
But he had no other help there.

Speaker 1 (03:22):
Offensively, with the Golden Gophers in Wisconsin, they just they
have so many different ways to score, Stephen Krow, John Tanja,
Kamari McGee, everyone was getting in on the action.

Speaker 2 (03:34):
Yeah, pretty familiar story for Garcia here in his career
at Minnesota in particular. Right, he starts at Marquette, he
doesn't stick around there, He goes to North Carolina for
a season, then he decides he wants to come home.
And he's been with Minnesota now for three years and
he's been an exceptional talent on a team that doesn't
necessarily have a lot of great pieces around him. Jamison

(03:57):
Battle was another guy a couple of years ago that
you saw work his way from Minnesota to Ohio State and.

Speaker 3 (04:04):
Outside of that, it's just a hard place to be.
If you're a star player.

Speaker 2 (04:09):
You gotta be there because you want to be there,
not because Minnesota seems to be the team that's gonna
lead to the most success. And so I'll give him credit.
You got a flagrant late in the game. Don't love that.

Speaker 3 (04:21):
Don't need to be throwing our guys around by their jerseys.

Speaker 2 (04:24):
But he leads the game in points, he leads the
game in rebounds, he plays well, he plays thirty seven minutes.
He can't ask for much more from him. But on
the Wisconsin side. They did a great job really just
responding to the early punch from Minnesota. Minnesota wanted the
game to look like it did in the first half,
and Wisconsin had to go into halftime and come back

(04:45):
out and really reset. And Big Steve's on a heater now, right.
He's put together a nice five game stretch here where
he's averaged over seventeen points per game.

Speaker 3 (04:54):
Yet another good one today.

Speaker 2 (04:56):
Very efficient six of seven from the field, only five
rebounds for him. Didn't need to rebound because of how
he was performing in other aspects of this game.

Speaker 3 (05:04):
They got contributions across the board.

Speaker 2 (05:06):
Xavier Aim has played a season I twenty two minutes, right,
So you saw what you needed to see from a
Wisconsin team that was maybe a question mark without Klesman,
Like you wanted to know what they were without him.
You knew they'd be good, but you want to know
what they would look like. And they did a great
job without him today, And it seems like you'll be
back relatively soon considering he warmed up with the team today.

Speaker 1 (05:28):
Yeah, you need to see who will step up in
the absence of someone like Max Klesmitt, who has played
such a key role in this team, and Kamaria McGee
ends up getting the start in this game, his first
start with the Badgers, and he ends up with fifteen points,
five to ten, shooting three or four from beyond the arc,
five rebounds in thirty three minutes of action. Kamaria McGee

(05:51):
his best offensive performance as a Badger, with a career
high in Madison with fifteen points. McGee really stepped up.
We saw a lot more of Xavier Amos coming off
the bench twenty two minutes from him. Jack Janicki sixteen
minutes off the bench as well, so we saw these
other guys get some more minutes.

Speaker 4 (06:10):
And they did very well with them.

Speaker 1 (06:13):
Amos didn't have the greatest offensive night, but still he
was out there quite a bit, played pretty well, didn't
have any sort of major issues, even though he was
just one of six from the field. Not too terrible
of a night for Exavier Amos. So these guys stepped
up Klusmt. They didn't really need them, and it was
no problem without him. Obviously you'd love to have him back,

(06:35):
but they were able to be just fine and take
down Minnesota here without Max Klusmt. So they're all set
and they just have so many weapons. Even though klosemit's
one of those weapons, you don't have them still end
up just fine. And another one of those weapons offensively,
nick is John Blackwell, and he's been basically the primary

(06:58):
scoring threat for Wisconsin these past couple of weeks. Just
nine points today, three of ten from the field. Not
a great night for John Blackwell. And Butcher said this
during the broadcast, who do you stop? If you're in Minnesota?
Who do you stop when you're looking at this Badger's team?
And it looks like John Blackwell was the one that

(07:19):
they tried to stop. Did they tried to focus on
Blackwell did not have the greatest night. But when you
shut down John Blackwell, kraw toan Jay and McGee, I'll
step up.

Speaker 3 (07:29):
Yeah, no doubt about it, David.

Speaker 2 (07:31):
Another thing you gotta give credit to Blackwell for is
he didn't keep shooting, right, He didn't force the issue.
He took ten shots today, which is a decent amount,
but fifteen in his last game, eighteen in the game
before that. Right, and I'm not naming names, but you
had a volume shooter on this team last year who
scored a lot of points.

Speaker 3 (07:49):
But there were nights.

Speaker 2 (07:50):
Where it was four of thirteen or ten of twenty three,
like sending up a ton of shots in credit to
this guy.

Speaker 3 (07:59):
He's Kansas now, he does his own thing.

Speaker 2 (08:01):
But the reality is there's a team here of unselfish
basketball players, players that are going to play for one
another and aren't worried about getting their shots up. And
Blackwell moved off of it. And he contributes across the
board as always in today's game, adding four rebounds.

Speaker 3 (08:16):
To assists two steals. Right, he does what he needs
to do to contribute.

Speaker 1 (08:19):
Yeah, and Wisconsin did what they needed to do to
lock down a win here over the Minnesota Golden Gophers
and keep their winning streak alive as they run away
with this one eighty to fifty nine. And we've got
a lot of fun facts from this win, and including
going back to the nineteen seventies. That's that's where we're
going here. That's coming up. That's gonna be in fun

(08:41):
facts with Dave, So stay tuned. You're not gonna want
to miss it. Badgers win eighty to fifty nine over Minnesota.
You're listening to Jane k Security Solutions Best ballpost game.

Speaker 5 (08:50):
Show one on one right on the lane, backing this
crowd backing Vee Shanks goes up.

Speaker 6 (09:01):
Left hand, yes hand one Steven Krow, what a little
something to say after he goes to the left hand
for the bucket and he'll step to the free throw line.

Speaker 1 (09:14):
Welcome back to the J and K Security Solutions Basketball
postgame Show. Jay and K Security Solutions from home theaters
to smart lighting to a universal home control go online
to jksecurity dot com. Dave Gasper here with you alongside
Nick Brucewitz, and as you heard in the highlight there,
Stephen Crowe had a big game here tonight, eighteen points,

(09:35):
six of seven from the field, four to four from
the free throw line. And Greg Gard has kind of
talked about this, and we've talked about this plenty on
the postgame show here, but we saw an aggressive Stephen
Crowell tonight.

Speaker 4 (09:49):
You know, we saw him.

Speaker 1 (09:49):
He was talking, he was throwing guys around, he was
having a fantastic game, very efficient from the field. Exactly
what we've needed to see from Krow with the aggressiveness,
the assertiveness and scoring the eighteen points leading the way
for Wisconsin. Nick, this is what we've been harping on

(10:11):
with Krow for years, essentially, But it's really come up
these past couple of games. This is what we've been
waiting for.

Speaker 3 (10:20):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (10:21):
In conversations with Matt Lepe in the recent week or so,
you know, he had mentioned that he felt like less
is more when it comes to Stephen Krawe. So he's
playing less minutes, but his affection, his ability to be
consistent on the court, his execution has gotten that much better. Right, So,
over the last five games he's played rough math here

(10:44):
close to twenty two to twenty three minutes per game,
but he's averaged north of seventeen points per game, right,
So he's really efficient now in recent weeks.

Speaker 3 (10:55):
Over the last five games where he has scored eighteen fifteen, fourteen,
eighteen eighteen, he has.

Speaker 2 (11:00):
Shot seven of ten, seven of ten, four of four,
eight of eleven, and six of seven. His worst games
are a three way tie with three misses, and all
three of those games were ten or more shot attempts.
He has been exceptional. This is how he needs to play,
and this is a team that can build around a
consistent force like that in the paint or out at

(11:22):
the perimeter like he's shown over the last few games.
Out of the last five, three times he has made
multiple threes, so he's kicking, but he's playing really well.

Speaker 3 (11:31):
Keep it up. The rest of the team has been
playing well around him.

Speaker 2 (11:34):
It's a Wisconsin team that their record is not some
sort of fluke, right, this is a legit thirteen and
three team.

Speaker 1 (11:40):
Yeah, and it's it's been very strong just all around
with with these guys, and yeah, especially with Steven Krowe.
Really the comparison, I think maybe I would give it
with Krow getting getting fewer minutes but being better and
being more efficient is a baseball one, because that's just
that's just who I am. But converting a starter to

(12:03):
a reliever, and he gets better as a reliever because
you've only got so many so many bolts to fire,
only so many pitches to throw, only so many minutes
to play for Steven Krow, So instead of trying to
save it, save some of your aggressions, save some of
your energy for later when you know you have to
play thirty four to thirty five minutes a game, When
you know you only have twenty four to twenty five

(12:24):
minutes to play, you can be a bit more aggressive.
You can expend that much more energy when you're out
there because you know, you're not gonna have to be
out there as long and you're not gonna worry about
being winded at the end of the game.

Speaker 3 (12:38):
And it's worked well so far in this stretch for Wisconsin.

Speaker 2 (12:41):
They're gonna be challenged more in the coming weeks with
better big men, but they've done well over the last two, right,
or two of their last three.

Speaker 7 (12:49):
Right.

Speaker 2 (12:49):
So you got Owen Freeman, a big man that's rather
effective for Iowa that they did a pretty good job against,
and Steve had a pretty good game there, and then
today Dawson Garcia is not a five, but he's there
and he's playing well. And Wisconsin wasn't really thwarted away
from doing whatever they wanted on the offense end. It
was more of an execution error issue in the first
half than it was an inability to get the looks

(13:11):
they wanted to. So I'm feeling good about Steve at
this moment. We know it's in him now, we've seen it.
So now if he does kind of go backwards down
the stretch or there's a stretch where he doesn't play well,
we can.

Speaker 3 (13:25):
At least know that this is what you can get
when he's right.

Speaker 4 (13:29):
Yeah, absolutely, and when he's right, he's.

Speaker 1 (13:31):
Out there having a lot of fun, and the Badgers
are having a lot of fun when they win in
these games, and that leads to a lot of fun
facts here as we go through some fun facts with Dave.

Speaker 4 (13:42):
Hey, have you ever heard me? Here's the term fun fact.
I got a couple of fun facts here because I
have a fun fact, you have a fun fact.

Speaker 1 (13:51):
I do first time in history this has happened that
eight games, five turnovers, and he's recorded thirty five assists.

Speaker 4 (13:58):
Spent a long time since we seen a game like this.

Speaker 3 (14:02):
The fun out here, this game's fun. Okay, that fact
is fun?

Speaker 8 (14:06):
Yeah?

Speaker 4 (14:06):
Are you fired up? I'm fired up for fun facts
with Day all right, And our fun facts.

Speaker 1 (14:14):
Begin with Stephen Krowell because he's having the most most
fun out there with eighteen points. But Stephen Crowe with
his eighteen points double digits scoring tonight, when in his
career as a Badger, When Stephen Crowe scores in double digits,
Wisconsin is now forty six and fourteen all time, that's

(14:39):
a pretty good record.

Speaker 4 (14:40):
Pretty good record, Nick, that is really really when crow
does well, the Badgers do well.

Speaker 2 (14:45):
I think I saw that before tonight's update from John Rothstein,
so very impressive. Well done for Big Steve. They're doing
well in games when he does well, it seems to
make sense.

Speaker 4 (14:58):
Yeah, it absolutely does. And also doing well.

Speaker 1 (15:01):
Kamari McGhee having a fantastic game here tonight, fifteen points,
three of four from three, and this is improving his
three point shooting percentage to a remarkable amount on the season.
Kamari McGee from three is now at fifty seven and
a half percent this year, well above fifty percent nineteen

(15:25):
of thirty three on the season. For Kamara McGee shooting
from beyond the arc, it's a remarkable stretch for him.

Speaker 2 (15:32):
Yeah, he's got a jumper that is not typical by
any means. It's got a little bit of a low trajectory,
but it's work well.

Speaker 4 (15:40):
He's the shortest man on the court out there. You know,
you'd think you would.

Speaker 3 (15:44):
Shoot it with a high trajectory. Then you'd think you have.

Speaker 9 (15:46):
To shoot it above people. He's shooting it straight through them.
I would the launch agle on that thing is as
low as possible. I mean, it's it's possible it could
get lower, but it wouldn't hit the rim that he's
hitting these threes left and right.

Speaker 2 (15:59):
He's doing a right job getting open, and they're doing
a great job getting him open.

Speaker 3 (16:04):
I would imagine that number comes down.

Speaker 2 (16:06):
But if he shoots around forty this season or forty
five from three, that is an incredible weapon to have,
whether he's in your starting lineup or off the bench.

Speaker 1 (16:15):
It's not all about launch angles us about exit philosophy,
all right, And our final fun.

Speaker 3 (16:20):
Person, you don't want to shoot it hard?

Speaker 1 (16:22):
Our final fun fact here Wisconsin beating Minnesota, and Minnesota
previously had a seven and oh record in games on
Peacock game.

Speaker 4 (16:35):
The game on TV was on Peacock tonight.

Speaker 1 (16:38):
Minnesota was seven to oh previously before tonight, their last
loss being broadcast on NBC was in the nineteen seventy
two NCAA tournament against Florida State. That is the last
time NBC aired Minnesota basketball losing.

Speaker 3 (16:59):
Did they technically air it?

Speaker 2 (17:02):
Is that was Today's aired or was it streamed area aired?

Speaker 3 (17:08):
They're not on national television, I'll tell you that. And Peacock.
That's kind of funny.

Speaker 2 (17:12):
I mean, I'm not trying to make any judgments, but
I seem to seems to feel like sometimes Peacock gets
those matchups that nobody else wants.

Speaker 3 (17:20):
So credit to Minnesota for always being on Peacock.

Speaker 2 (17:24):
Disappointing, I guess for them that they're Peacock's streak has
come to an end.

Speaker 1 (17:28):
Yes, it's very disappointing for them, but also very happy
for Thoseons and Badgers are very fun for them, especially
getting the win here in basketball because the wins in
football haven't exactly been there last.

Speaker 4 (17:42):
A little bit. But anyways, we're trying to keep it fun.

Speaker 1 (17:44):
We're trying to keep it on a happy note here
Wisconsin gets the win eighty to fifty nine over Minnesota.
And coming up next, Nick Osen of twenty four to
seven Sports, he is going to join us from the
Cole Center. We're gonna get his reaction, his thoughts to
this game, man, what Greg Guard talked about after the
game and the players as well.

Speaker 4 (18:03):
That's coming up. You're not gonna want to miss it.
Day tuned. This is the Jank Security Solutions Besketball pos
team show.

Speaker 8 (18:18):
Center back to kraw left wing, a pass for Ramus
Rotate Silver catching shooting at three.

Speaker 4 (18:23):
Yes, Sir Marcus.

Speaker 8 (18:25):
Hilver beat the bout Trumple's time out Minnesota has the
Badgers blow it open here in the second half, we'll
take a break hear in Madison.

Speaker 1 (18:39):
Welcome back to the J and K Security Solutions basketball
postgame show from Home Security to Automation and Jay and
K Security Solutions as you covered, go to jksecurity dot
com for more info. Did guys for here along with
Nick Brucewitz and we are joined now by Nick Osen
of twenty four to seven Sports after this eighty to

(19:00):
fifty nine Badger's victory over Minnesota and Nick, really the
big key on offense for Wisconsin these past couple of
weeks has been John Blackwell. He's been driving this train
and Minnesota was able to pretty effectively stop John Blackwell,
but they could not also stop Stephen Crowell and John

(19:21):
Tanjay and Kamaria McGee. The rest of the rest of
the offense really stepped up. With Blackwell not being able
to really go as he usually does and without Max klesmant.

Speaker 10 (19:34):
Absolutely, David, you know, I was really impressed. I think
you have to start with big Steve, right, Stephen Crowell.
This is something we've talked about consistently, I'd really say
all season, right, because we were waiting for him to
get going, and then I think we all said pretty
confidently this is going to be the turning point about
a month ago, three or four weeks ago, and it

(19:55):
has been now. I asked coach Guard about his performance
and he simply said that he was a grown man tonight.
I think it's really hard to disagree with that. I
loved his aggression. You mentioned some of those other guys,
Kamari McGee. You know, it's just cool to see all
of the work that he's really put in kind of
come to fruition. I mean, it was cool up there
at the presser. He said, you know, this was really

(20:17):
the same type of mentality for me as usual, but
I was maybe a little bit extra excited because I
got to start.

Speaker 3 (20:22):
So that was cool.

Speaker 8 (20:24):
You know.

Speaker 10 (20:24):
I think Tanjay not the best shooting night for him,
not terrible, but still able to you know, kind of
get the buckets, get to the cup, get fouled, and
just overall this is showing how deep this team really
is offensively.

Speaker 2 (20:36):
Yeah, and you saw some guys step up, not necessarily
in the points column, but Xavier Amos plays a lot
of minutes.

Speaker 3 (20:44):
Jack J. Nicky plays a lot of minutes tonight, and
those are guys.

Speaker 2 (20:47):
That we've seen in spurts, we've seen in close to
double digit minutes, but not at this amount. So what
do you think of those two kind of seeing a
little bit more of them.

Speaker 10 (20:56):
Yeah, Nika, I completely agree. You know, I think especially
Amos because I think we kind of know what JANICKI
can do, which is exciting, and he's so complete. But
Amos came in known for his offense. I mean I
can tell you guys that confidently, I've gotten to know
him a little bit and it wasn't perfect, but the
way that he bodied up and was physical and not

(21:16):
afraid to go against what a top seven eight player
at nine in the entire conference, certainly one of the
best guys down low and Dawson Garcia, I was quite impressed.
You know, Amos saw a shot go down. I think
a couple others were really good looks. I'm okay with that.
There were a couple turnovers I could tell the staff
maybe didn't love, but you know that's gonna come as

(21:38):
you get a little bit more comfortable. And I also
want to know some of those other guys. You said, Nick,
how about Marcus Silver?

Speaker 3 (21:44):
Yeah, I mean he comes in he's got confidence.

Speaker 10 (21:46):
Yeah, we've talked about it, like I get to see
some practices and I'm grateful for that. He might be
the best peer shooter on the team. I mean he
really like it's a gorgeous looking shot, he's confident, he
knocks it down. I think that was cool, and you
saw what his teammates and the staff think of him
when you watch that bench reaction.

Speaker 4 (22:04):
Yeah, that reaction was fantastic for Ilver.

Speaker 1 (22:08):
Back to back threes, but also, I mean those threes
they come at a point to really just bury Minnesota
here in the second half. I mean those threes took
it from a sixty one to forty three game to
a sixty seven forty three game, and really Wisconsin went
on a couple of runs here in the second half,
just continually pulling away. I mean Ilver was part of that,

(22:33):
but really it's these kinds of runs that it just
makes Wisconsin so hard to beat because when they get
hot offensively like that and they string a couple of
stops together, it's pure magic.

Speaker 10 (22:46):
Dave. I think that's really well said, and I love
that you wrapped it up with the defensive aspect, right,
because we've seen Wisconsin teams that can score the last
few years, We've certainly seen plenty of good defensive teams,
but when they can do both like we saw tonight,
like we saw against Rutgers a little bit, and some
other games recently, I think that to me, guys shows

(23:11):
an NCAA tournament team with second weekend potential. I really
believe that. Like I'm starting to kind of transition to
more college hoops, football is kind of nearing its end,
so you get to see other teams out there. You
don't see a lot of teams that can just turn
it on like that. And I love that it was
multiple guys too, Like no Klezman tonight, obviously Blackwell far

(23:32):
from his best offensive game, and you've just got four
or five six other guys stepping up. I continue to
be impressed with this staff and the way that they've
utilize this roster.

Speaker 2 (23:43):
Yeah, no doubt about it, and to focus in a
little bit more on the defensive end. The final score
is a little deceiving, right eighty to fifty nine would
suggest it.

Speaker 3 (23:50):
Was closer than it really was. Right, So, at one point,
at seventy eight to forty nine.

Speaker 2 (23:55):
Wisconsin's kind of starting to empty the bench and Minnesota
gets a couple of takes in a big couple of
shots from Rigsby on the other end. But the reality
is this was probably Wisconsin's best defensive game of the year.

Speaker 7 (24:07):
Right.

Speaker 2 (24:08):
It might have been hidden by the fact that it
was a one point game at half and people got
attracted to the offense separating down the stretch. But the
reality is Wisconsin's defense held a big ten opponent to
fifty nine points, and that fifty nine is a.

Speaker 3 (24:19):
Little bit weak. He was probably closer to low fifties.

Speaker 10 (24:22):
It's really hard to disagree with that, Nick, I mean,
you even look a little bit deeper into the numbers.
Dawston Garcia got some of his as is expected. Like
I mentioned, he's a great player, and I don't think
anybody would say otherwise.

Speaker 3 (24:33):
That's a pro whether.

Speaker 10 (24:34):
You know, in the NBA overseas. But outside of that,
I don't think a single other player in double digits.

Speaker 3 (24:41):
Nope.

Speaker 10 (24:42):
They don't have the most offensive talent, but they've got
some dudes that can shoot. I like Mitchell, I like
Isaac Asamad, true freshman. You know, Parker Fox can muck
things up a little bit. And they held most of
those guys scoreless or almost scoreless. Obviously, you know a
Ducalle got off to a good start, but then he
was essential shut out for the last I think twenty
twenty minutes.

Speaker 2 (25:03):
Nobody outside of Garcia was performing at any level consistent
on the offensive end.

Speaker 3 (25:08):
Right, and even.

Speaker 2 (25:09):
Garcia eight of seventeen isn't the best shooting night. It's
a high volume shooter, but I thought it was the
defensive and the frosted tips. Dave said he hasn't seen
that in a long time. I mean, I wonder if
he did it the Joe Burrow way where he shaved
the head, went bleach blonde, went platinum blonde, and then
let it grow out. But long story short, that guy's

(25:30):
journey starts at Marquette, goes to North Carolina.

Speaker 3 (25:34):
Ends up in Minnesota.

Speaker 2 (25:35):
It's kind of similar to a lot of guys you've
seen excel at Minnesota. It's like not enough talent around him.

Speaker 10 (25:41):
Yeah, I think that's really well said. And I don't
know if you guys got to see any of Minnesota's
last game earlier this week, but that just felt like
kind of the straw that broke the camel's.

Speaker 3 (25:51):
Well, you can't foul up too right, I mean, that's yeah.

Speaker 10 (25:55):
You never see that, you know, I certainly don't wish
to sign anybody, but it's it's looking like an eventual
coaching change. Perhaps in Minneapolis. I think Johnson's recruited some
good guys, but also just these days with Nilan things,
they lost some of their best players in the offseason.

Speaker 1 (26:11):
Yeah, and it's it's hard to rebound when that happens
and reload. But Wisconsin was able to with with john Tonjay,
Xavier Amos and Cameron Hunter as well in Tanja sixteen
points Here Nick Osen, as always, we appreciate you hopping
on the show and we will. We look forward to

(26:33):
talking to you again on Tuesday as the Badgers returned
to the Cole Center.

Speaker 10 (26:37):
You beat guys, looking forward to it. Thank you.

Speaker 1 (26:39):
All right, there it goes Nick Osen of twenty four
seven Sports joining us here on the Jane Kate Security
Solutions Basketball postgame show.

Speaker 4 (26:46):
Coming up, we will hear from head coach Greg Guard.

Speaker 1 (26:49):
That's gonna be up next after this Badger's eighty to
fifty nine win over Minnesota. You're listening to the Jane
Kate Security Solutions Basketball postgame Show.

Speaker 8 (27:04):
Noland winsor almost knocked away by Fox and get it
out left side McGhee for three. He hit it again
this thirty three of the night. He is thirteen points
in the game.

Speaker 7 (27:16):
He shoots sixty percent from three.

Speaker 4 (27:19):
Just on fire this year.

Speaker 8 (27:21):
Three is crazy.

Speaker 1 (27:24):
Welcome back to the J and K Security Solutions Basketball

Gasper along with Nick Brucewiz after this Badger's eighty fifty
nine victory over the Minnesota Golden Gophers and head coach

(27:46):
Greg Guard talked with Mettlepey and Brian Butch after the win.

Speaker 8 (27:52):
As weird now joint court side by the Badger's head coach.
Where Rag Butcher was wondering during the game with McGee
in the lineup, with Max Klesman not not playing, and
I where was the bench strength going to come from tonight?
Because Camari is so good off the bench. He's not
bad in the starting lineup either. No, no, he was

(28:12):
pretty good in the starting lineup. And I wondered about
that myself.

Speaker 11 (28:15):
You know, I debated who do I put just because
Kamari has been so good in that role of coming
off the bench. So but but he's earned the opportunity
to start. When you know, we knew that Max wasn't
going to be able to go. He you know, he
warmed up and I felt maybe in an emergency he
could go. But uh, and then the guy we had
ready to kind of roll behind him, Cam Hunter, gets

(28:37):
sprains his ankle in the workout this afternoon, so you know,
when it rains at poors.

Speaker 7 (28:41):
But now they'll tape during workouts from.

Speaker 4 (28:43):
The Yeah, I mean you know I've done ten thousand
of them.

Speaker 9 (28:47):
Yeah.

Speaker 11 (28:47):
Well, actually, Brian, we don't tape anymore.

Speaker 4 (28:49):
Really, there's a new sciences here.

Speaker 11 (28:52):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (28:53):
Just means I'm old now, Yes, it's true, you know.

Speaker 11 (28:56):
And and Gilmore Gilmore's battle on the flu, he spent
all night up with his head over a toilet and
I thought, you know, he looked like he was, you know,
a little green. And but I give him credit for
gutting it out, no pun intended, you know, So other
guys just have step up. Sab got twenty two minutes
that that was good. JANICKI did some good things once

(29:17):
he got settled in. Marcus Ilver comes in and bams
shots just like what he did in practice. And so yeah,
I mean a good, good team win. I thought we
did a good job on Mitchell, a good job at
times on Garcia when we he started putting the ball
on the floor. You know, we got better in the
defensive on the defensive glass in the second half and

(29:38):
then obviously make shots that'll get separation, and that's what happened.

Speaker 7 (29:41):
Okay, since you brought up Mitchell, I know you're talking
about Mitchell Junior, but I'm gonna talk about the play
with Big Steve and Frank Mitchell, all right, because Big
Steve just threw him to the side.

Speaker 4 (29:50):
I said this.

Speaker 7 (29:51):
I stopped though, Matt couldn't talk about the game anymore
because I said, that might be the first time that
I've seen Steve take a guy, throw him to the
get the ball and go explode.

Speaker 3 (30:02):
Like.

Speaker 7 (30:02):
I was so jacked up about it because it's that
net like, and I told I said it to the man.
I said, man, I just think he's realizing these are
the last games he's gonna play in a Badger jersey, right,
And you've seen it how many times where it just
it clicks, like guys just understand, like, I only have
so many more of these opportunities and I'm not gonna

(30:22):
waste him anymore.

Speaker 4 (30:23):
And it just he was We've seen it in Spurts.

Speaker 11 (30:25):
Yeah, we've seen it in Spurts over his career, really
over the last three years. Mean, when he's aggressive, he's
really good. But you know, like I said, aggressive, Steve
doesn't always show up every night. It has since Butler,
it has had absolutely I think the subbing has helped him.
He knows you get it empty the tank here in
the first three minutes, and Gilby knows when we get
near seventeen and I give him that look he goes.

Speaker 3 (30:46):
I know he was a.

Speaker 11 (30:46):
Little reluctant tonight and he kind of waddled to the
to the scores table, going, man, Okay, I'm gonna give
this a try. But no, Steve was. I told him,
told him in front of the team. Maybe he was
a grown man in there tonight, and that was great
to see.

Speaker 8 (31:01):
We always talk about things that in the big picture
can be forgotten by many, but Butcher and I were
talking about going back to that Butler game because Stevie
it had been a struggle. And then like you guys
were feeding them the ball, like rapping the get go.
That's like great for him for finishing, but also for
you guys say hey, we're gonna we need you. And
that movie was a really important part for him.

Speaker 11 (31:22):
Yeah, moving forward, I think you know it's it wasn't
a kind conversation after the Illinois game. It was pretty direct,
and you know, he's a grown man. He can handle
what I had to say in front of everybody, and
it was the truth. I mean, he just needed to
And I think just realize you the clock is ticking.
As you mentioned, Brian, you go to get so many

(31:43):
and you here so many more jump balls left, more
tip offs left, so let's make the most of them.
And he's he's taking that to heart.

Speaker 7 (31:50):
But I also think the ability of you guys to
get after players and coach because we know where kids are,
like it's right, not everybody wants to be coached anymore,
but then to do that and then believe in them. No,
we're still going to you, like here's the ball, Like
we believe in everything you're doing.

Speaker 11 (32:06):
These guys know that we got their back, and yeah,
and they have each other's back. Blow to them a
little bit at times, but they know they know at
the end of the day, I'm I'm right with them,
so and they know they can play at a really
high level. And I think the biggest thing is they're
the first ones to know when they don't hit expectations
before or when they make something goes wrong or right

(32:26):
on the floor. It's great to see the team just
mob Marcus after he made a couple of trees, because
it just shows the connectivity of this group and and
how they keep picking each other up.

Speaker 4 (32:36):
You've been doing this a long time.

Speaker 7 (32:38):
What do you know you got a special locker room
because it's starting to look like you've got guys that
are playing for each other that it's they're unselfish.

Speaker 4 (32:44):
And you've got a lot of really good players.

Speaker 11 (32:45):
But it doesn't matter whose night it is right and
make it the right play no matter what. And we're
getting better as time goes on. We're getting better, you know.
I think defensively the second half we did a really
good job. You know, that's that's a team to put
up eight eight the other night, I guess how I know,
a double overtime, but still we were able to get
separation and really put the clamps down and get going

(33:06):
and transition. And I've noticed that even this summer, Brian,
that I could tell And that's always the concern when
you bring any year, but specifically in this era when
you have portal acquisitions so to speak, there's a lot
of new faces coming from a lot of different places.
They're not all coming from high school. And how they're
able to connect with each other and put their ego aside.

(33:30):
And that's the credit to our staff who when we
were in the recruiting process really vetted that stuff. Like
you know, we even have a personality test we take
people through just to get understand what their motives are,
what drives them, what fuels them, they what are their
goals and things, and it really is telling. And this
group up and down the lineup is a really uh connected,

(33:52):
unselfish group.

Speaker 8 (33:53):
Yeah, that's what the veteran guys here they say that
almost unsolicited about the guys who come in. You obviously
want of players. Isn't good, dude, Absolutely, it's huge.

Speaker 11 (34:04):
Because if they're not, then then the toxicity starts to
creep in. If somebody is selfish or let's their ego
getting away wanting theirs so to speak, and I mean
the the great examples that is John. I mean, that's
your year's sixth year. He could come in with all
the answers and no questions. He's the other way around,
like he he wants to be coached. And I think
it's he he's learning a lot and and things that

(34:27):
he can continue to get better at. And I thought,
you know, second half, I thought he was pretty good.
He he really got to the line and was attacking.
And you know, just that's where the sixth year of experience,
the grown man's strength showed in the second half.

Speaker 8 (34:41):
Well maybe one day we'll have Butch, you take that
personality test just for.

Speaker 11 (34:47):
I'll give I'll give it to your wife. I'll give it.
I'll give the results to your wife. Want it's really accurate.
Get rid of that test. I want to stay halfly married.

Speaker 8 (35:03):
Appreciate it. Congratulations, Thanks Tuesday Badgers, said coach Greg Guard,
joining us. It's just it's a sport. We just like
to check everywhere I go. I mean we were in
New Jersey. People were making fun of me. I mean,
it's all right, wait wait for that trip next week.

Speaker 4 (35:17):
All right.

Speaker 1 (35:17):
There was Badgers head coach Greg Guard talking with Matt
Lepay and Brian Butch after this one. Yeah, Carter Gilmore
dealing a little bit with the flu in this game,
but overall, Wisconsin gets to win eighty fifty nine over Minnesota.
Nick Brucewitz, your final thoughts on this one.

Speaker 3 (35:34):
Let's keep this train rolling down the tracks and Big
ten play.

Speaker 2 (35:37):
The Badgers have now won three in a row after
starting zero to two and Big ten action.

Speaker 3 (35:42):
They got a big battle, a late.

Speaker 2 (35:45):
Night battle, a lot of Tuesday late night battles for
this Wisconsin team coming up against Ohio State. So on
to the next keep building on it because I'm feeling
pretty good about halfway through the season right now.

Speaker 4 (35:57):
Yeah, about halfway through.

Speaker 1 (35:58):
The Badgers are on a three game conference winning streak
and a five game overall winning streak dating back to
the December fourteenth game against Butler, and they all have
a chance to make it a whole month long on
January fourteenth, on Tuesday, Ohio State. It's gonna be at
the Coles Center. That game is gonna tip off at

(36:19):
eight pm, so it's a late night tip. Pregame coverage
will begin at seven o'clock and then stay up late
with us as we bring you the Jank Security Solutions
Basketball postgame show as Badgers take on Ohio State on Tuesday.
That's coming up four, Casey James four, Nick Ruswiz, I'm
Dave Gasper once again. The final score tonight Wisconsin eighty

(36:42):
Minnesota fifty nine.

Speaker 4 (36:44):
Thank you for listening.

Speaker 1 (36:45):
This has been the JK Security Solutions Basketball postgame show.

Speaker 8 (36:50):
For shot clock is off fifteen seconds to play eighty
to fifty nine Wisconsin and Daniel Free tag. Only several
Minnesota Natos on the Wisconsin and roster can dribble out
the clock as the Badgers making eight straight in the
series against Minnesota and the current win street for Greg
Guards team is now at five
