Speaker 4 (00:24):

Welcome to the season opener of the twenty twenty five
twenty six campaign, the Wisconsin Badgers take on the Lynnenwood
University Lions. Our producer is Michael Tackett, just a couple
hours down the road in Jefferson City, Missouri. From uw
(01:17):
Athletic Brand Communications Paul keppel Bianco alongside on Ryan Posik Well,
Wisconsin looks get back into the NCAA tournament after missing
out a year ago when the Badgers won only thirteen
games with twenty one losses and three ties. That followed
head coach Mike hastings first season in which the Badgers
were dancing thanks to twenty six victories. Paul, you look
(01:40):
at this club this year, a lot of new faces,
but a lot of returning players sixteen and all plus
ten upper classmen. I know that's where this process will
start with the guys that have been around for a while. Yeah,
for sure.
Speaker 7 (01:53):
And you look right at number nineteen, Quinn Finley from
last year, twenty goal scorer, forty points last year, one
of five guys in the country that had twenty.
Speaker 8 (02:00):
Goals last year.
Speaker 7 (02:01):
So he is obviously a gonna be a big part
of the Badger's offense and the experience. But you go
down the line, it's you've heard coach Chase Things talk
about the depth of this team forward especially, it's it's
a lot of balance and a lot of like, lot
to like. You haven't seen these guys and action completely
in an NCAA game. But guys like Oliver Tulk, the
silly zillanoff, Blake Montgomery.
Speaker 8 (02:24):
Talented guys.
Speaker 7 (02:25):
Tolk scored one hundred points in sixty games last sixty
five games last year. And then you go back to
the defense latch and care gone. But there's experienced guys
like Joe polotachuk Is you look for a rebound season
for him, healthy guy now, Zach Schulz, Ben deck Seimer,
Logan Henzo. Those four anchor a pretty experienced D when
you look at it up and down, including a transfer
(02:46):
and one of the best D in the country and
juniors last year.
Speaker 8 (02:50):
So that's a pretty good starting point.
Speaker 2 (02:52):
Yep. Three of the four Badger captains are also defends
good too.
Speaker 7 (02:55):
Yeah, Ben dex Sheimer got the nod from the mass
and Capitals at least before he got to Wisconsin. And
Joe Plotachuck's x shuals souls from the USA program and
he kind of stepped up this summer and took the
rains a little bit kind of you could kind of
see he wanted that role for the team.
Speaker 8 (03:11):
And then Joe plata Chuck.
Speaker 7 (03:12):
Is just like just a hard nosed, down a business
guy and he is it's fun to talk to him
about hockey, and he's just he's another guy had the
opportunity maybe to go pro like Quinn Finley, and he
decided to come back. He didn't like how it went
last year. And if he gets back to the way progue
freshman year and is now a junior, got to look
forward to him being pretty good this year.
Speaker 2 (03:33):
You know, you mentioned Quinn Finley, but up front Deavin
Morrissey one of the alternate captains. And then you have
some returning players seniors and Christian Fitzgerald, Simon, Tassi, Kyle
Kuchen and Kukan the only other double digit goal scorer
back with the Badgers this year. Tassie and Fitzgerald. You know,
they show flashes of something good. Simon last year though,
(03:54):
banged up from the start of the season and really
took him throughout the year to finally get back to
full health and it.
Speaker 8 (03:59):
Was too late.
Speaker 7 (04:01):
Yeah, I mean we saw a couple of years ago
again when things rolled for Wisconsin, pretty good pass He was.
Speaker 8 (04:06):
An important part.
Speaker 7 (04:07):
He's a big body, loves the stand for the net,
but has a little bit of skill as well. He
scored in juniors in other places. And then Christian Fitzgerald.
You could see he's a potential in him. You see
the skill all the time, but he's moved from center
over to the wing where he's had success in the past.
Scored sixteen goals as a freshman and with man Cato,
So a couple of guys moving over to the side.
Speaker 8 (04:28):
And you mentioned Kyle Kuchanan who just.
Speaker 7 (04:31):
Solidly but quietly kind of was a pretty good scorer
last year for Wisconsin, and you're looking for that depth
another ten goal season plus from him, and other guys contribute,
and again he's.
Speaker 8 (04:41):
Starting out the year. It's pretty exciting.
Speaker 7 (04:43):
You love to look down the line and you want
to see everyone score, even a guy like Ryan Botterol
he's scored in the past. He's like another guy to
kind of keep your eye on as the season goes along.
Speaker 2 (04:51):
Dad Korbok too, Mike Hastings will talk about him coming
up in just a bit. You know, last season it
was difficult. Eleven of the Badgers twenty one loss by
one goal, seven came in overtime. There were four games
in which Wisconsin lost by two goals with empty netters
by the opposition, so they were right there. They do
lose ten players from a season ago, including Rylan Mosley
(05:13):
eighteen goals, thirty seven points, Cody Loskowski, Owen lin Mark,
the captain, Owen Mellenbacher. Paul mentioned Anthony Kerr, Daniel Lodge,
Tommy Scarfoni has departed, William Gramma transferred to Northern Michigan.
The question with Wisconsin this season undoubtedly is goaltending, Paul,
because the three young men that they have in uniform
(05:35):
returner Anton Castro, Sawfore transfer, Eli Poulber, and freshman. I
was gonna say Doogie Hauser, Daniel Hauser, Daniel Hauser, they
have combined for two starts in NCAA hockey games. Houser
will get the start tonight. It was a question mark
last year too, and it didn't pan out. It was
(05:55):
a question mark two years ago and it did pan out.
With Saint Louis area name Kyle mcclemock.
Speaker 7 (06:01):
Yeah, that's the one area we didn't talk about in
the first segment there. Daniel Hauser comes in unbelievable experience
in the Western Hockey League, all time wins leader in
that league, was our finalists for the goaltender of the
Year in that league. So he comes with a little
bit of pedigree, But as you mentioned, he hasn't played
NCAA hockey yet. And then Eli Polver also was a
(06:21):
pretty good goalie in juniors, was behind Alex Tracy in
Minnesota State who was one of the best goalies in
the country. So he didn't get a chance. Comes over
to Wisconsin here looking for a chance. But we'll see
what Daniel Hawser has tonight and see how his game
translates over to the NCAAA.
Speaker 2 (06:35):
All right, So Wisconsin against Lyndon Wood. Lyndon Wood, in
its fourth year, is a Division One program now officially
eligible for NCAA tournament play. But the Lions have their
third head coach in the last three years. Rick Sambo,
the former North Dakota standout, got this program started, then
he left. Bill mccult left the University of Michigan to
(06:56):
take over here at Lyndon Wood. He lasted one season
Sames Wall's twenty two with two ties, and now the
head coach is Keith Fisher. Fisher longtime assistant coach under
Guy Gadowski, first at Princeton, then at Penn State, where
the Nitney Lions made it to the NCAA Tournament four
times twice, won Big Ten titles, and last year advanced
(07:18):
to the Frozen four. Fisher comes here to a growing
university and athletic department, excited about his first opportunity. And
it just so happens that Fisher and Mike Hastings know
each other very well, dating back to their days in
Olmahall in the United States Hockey League.
Speaker 7 (07:35):
Yeah, they were Keith Fisher helped out Mike Hastings had Omaha.
They've much more than that, personal connections, weddings, things like that.
They are pretty good friends and yeah, I know coach
hase things. It's kind of cool to come down here
and see as he brought his wife down, Jean, and
(07:55):
because they're such good family friends with the Fishers, So yeah,
I mean that's just a little side note of the series.
Speaker 8 (08:02):
But kind of a cool connection it is.
Speaker 2 (08:04):
And again, lynden Wood a building program all time against
Big ten competition, two wins, nineteen losses, one tie. Their
first ever win against a Big Ten institution was in
Madison against Wisconsin at the Coal Center to start last season.
Badger's looking for payback here tonight to start this season,
and we'll hear from head coach Mike Hastings when we
(08:26):
come back. It's Wisconsin and lynden Wood of the season
opener this is Badger hockey from lair Field.

You think different, to talk different, to draw different, you

problem is you also drive different, and not in a
good way. That's why driving high is illegal everywhere. So
if you're high, just don't drive. Make a plan to

At the Centen Community Center outside Saint Louis, Missouri, where
the Wisconsin Badgers opened the twenty twenty five twenty six
season against the Lindenwood Lions and joining us as third
year head coach Mike Hastings and Mike, this summer came
and went. Your boys were working hard since June you've
been practicing now for about a month, so and I
know everybody that wears cardinal and white is ready to
(12:03):
get on the ice and play against somebody else right now.
Speaker 14 (12:06):
Yeah, so are our guys.
Speaker 21 (12:08):
They're ready to see somebody from a different zip code.
Speaker 14 (12:11):
And we'll have that opportunity tonight.
Speaker 21 (12:13):
And as you mentioned, we had some guys have some
outstanding summers, and now we need that to relate to
some success on the ice because they put a lot
of effort and time in and now we want to
see that work for us on the ice sheet.
Speaker 2 (12:26):
You have sixteen returning players, ten or upperclassmen. You named
your captains this week. Ben dex Sheimer will wear the seed.
Joe plata Chuck, Zach Schulz and Gavin Morrissey are the
alternate captains. And you have other leaders in that locker
room too, don't you.
Speaker 21 (12:39):
Yeah, we definitely do those guys. Congratulations to them. Some
of the guys that you mentioned right there that come
right off the top as far as guys that had
outstanding summers were Benny Dexzheimer and Joe plata Chuck. From
the physicality side, somebody that wasn't there that is pretty
much in every day or for us, and is somebody
(12:59):
that is contributed in a lot of different ways up
until this point, and also at a big summer was
Quinn Finley.
Speaker 14 (13:08):
You and I have been talking about this guy for
a while.
Speaker 21 (13:10):
Horbach has had a really good summer and a really
good month here. We're gonna lean on those guys as
we give the opportunity that has been earned for the
young guys, and the guys that have come back have
done a really good job of putting their arm around
this group and making them a part of it immediately.
Speaker 2 (13:27):
Ten newcomers to are transfers, eight freshmen. And you think
these freshmen right away are gonna have to help you
out pretty quick.
Speaker 14 (13:34):
They have to.
Speaker 21 (13:34):
When you put a lineup together and three of your
four centers are freshmen, and out of the twelve forwards,
you've got to going tonight eight five a freshmen. I mean,
then you know we've got a guy between the posts
that is a freshman. Those guys are gonna have to
hit their straight early, because you know, for us to
(13:55):
be good, we're good with depth. Hopefully we'll be able
to put together some plays tonight that we didn't get
to see a year ago. Some of the young guys
have shown themselves very well up until this point about
being able to make a play, So hopefully we're better
offensively and then collectively from our net all the way
to the group that we're talking up front. We have
(14:17):
to be cohesive in our defensive effort tonight because at
this time of the year, you go out and bad
things can happen, and how you react to them is
the difference between being successful or not.
Speaker 2 (14:29):

It's Wisconsin and lynnen Wood. To start the season game
two tomorrow night, also a seven o'clock start on the
Badgers' Sports Network. Brian Posik with the head coach Mike Hastings.
In the first segment of our pregame show, we spoke
about your newcomers, but let's talk specifically about your goaltenders.
Two new goaltenders. You have Anton Castro for his sophomore season,
but one freshman coming in from major juniors in Daniel Hauser.
(17:05):
He and Oliver Tulk from the Western Hockey League. This
is a brand new thing really going on in college hockey.
You can now recruits and major junior hockey. You brought
in two young men that really played well when they
were in Calgary and the WHL.
Speaker 14 (17:20):
Yeah they did.
Speaker 21 (17:21):
Actually, Daniel Howser, all time winning a school attender in
WHL history, was picked up by Calgary to hopefully make
a deep playoff run and he ended up hurting his
shoulder and tearing a labram.
Speaker 14 (17:34):
And good thing was is that he got.
Speaker 21 (17:38):
In a little bit early and had an outstanding summer
and is one hundred percent And so he's a guy
that's going to get an opportunity tonight. Throughout the history
of his development, he's been successful really wherever he's been,
so we're going to need him.
Speaker 14 (17:53):
To do that.
Speaker 21 (17:55):
And then you you know Tulker, he's a guy that
I think from day one is really gone out and.
Speaker 14 (18:00):
He can make plays.
Speaker 21 (18:02):
We ran a little power play game yesterday and he
showed his worth there just because he's somebody that can
see it when it's there and make the play that
you need to have Babe made at that time. And
I think he can score. He has shown last year
he's over one hundred points in the Western League first
teamer and then the other with Pulver between the posts.
(18:23):
We're going to need him to be the best version
that he was even prior to getting to MSU. As
I told you before, we'd recruited him a little bit
prior to getting to Wisconsin, and he showed himself very
well also.
Speaker 2 (18:34):
And finally for you, I know you're worried about yourselves
more so than your opponent when you start the season,
But do you still have to give your club a
scouting report? On linden Wood, they have a new head
coach the third and three years for them. This is
a Division I program that's just starting its fourth season.
You know the head coach, Well, Keith Fisher worked with
you in Omaha in the USHL. You were in his
wedding as well. But here's a guy that came over
(18:54):
from Penn State. With Guy Gadowski, they had a ton
of success, made the Frozen four a year ago. Keith
was joking that you may know more about his players
than he does, but nevertheless he wants to play the
way Penn State plays, and that's run and gun and
fire the puck of the net.
Speaker 22 (19:10):
Right.
Speaker 21 (19:10):
Yeah, they have over the last you know, really from
the inception of Big ten hockey and Dad's being there
and even previously at Princeton they were a shoot first
and ask questions later type mentality.
Speaker 14 (19:24):
So I believe you're going to see that.
Speaker 21 (19:26):
I think a lot of the systems that are going
to be implemented will be things that he's used to,
which is what he was at Penn State.
Speaker 14 (19:34):
So we're a little bit more on the focus of
what we're going to do.
Speaker 21 (19:37):
We want to dictate, we want to be somebody that's
playing against their defenseman as much as we can, and
really at this time of the year, focus on what
we're doing and what our execution needs to be to
be successful.
Speaker 2 (19:47):
Thanks for your time, have a great season. Thanks Paul Sure,
that's head coach Mike ca Stings the Badgers and Linnen
would coming up. This is Badger hockey from Airfield.

former two time of the Cardinal in white and.
Speaker 7 (24:02):
The small worldness of the connections between him and the
Maverick Old Maverick coaching staff with coach Haase things and
scoring a couple of overtime winners at Man Cato had
also taken out Nick Oliver in a game against Stay Cloud.
So it's kind of a little a sort of embarrassing
moment for John Ramage when he walked in.
Speaker 2 (24:18):
Yeah, Rammas spoke with the team last night at dinner.
Pretty cool, you know. I mentioned John was a two
time captain. The new captain of the Wisconsin Badgers, replacing
last year's captain Owen Lindmark, is senior Ben deck Sheimer
from IDYNA, Minnesota, And again it was announced earlier this
week that Ben would be the captain, with alternate captains
Gavin Morrissey, Zach Schulz and Joe Polata. Chuck spoke with
(24:41):
Ben deck Sheimer after practice yesterday. Well, congratulations, you're the
captain of the Wisconsin Badgers. What does this responsibility, this
honor mean to you.
Speaker 5 (24:51):
It's super special.
Speaker 37 (24:52):
I'm extremely on and this programs so historic and I'm
proud to be the next captain for this program. I'm
extremely excited about the group and the year we have ahead,
and I can't wait to get started this weekend.
Speaker 2 (25:03):
How did you find out you were going to wear
the sea?
Speaker 37 (25:06):
Coach told me, and then he told the team shortly.
Speaker 14 (25:09):
After, and it was really exciting.
Speaker 37 (25:10):
Guys were super pumped and it was a great moment.
Speaker 2 (25:13):
What was the last time you were the captain of
a hockey team?
Speaker 37 (25:18):
I was an assistant captain in high school, and then
throughout youth hockey, every other year I was the captain.
Speaker 2 (25:23):
Okay, yep, all right. Do you learn anything from those
experiences that you can use here or no.
Speaker 37 (25:27):
I was a lot younger, but I think I just
got to keep a levelhead and just take it one
day at a time and lead the way you lead.
Speaker 5 (25:35):
Not going to change who I am.
Speaker 37 (25:36):
And I think it's I'm really excited, very honored to
wear the sea.
Speaker 2 (25:39):
You have so many returning players to a lot of upperclassmen,
Joe Plata, Chuck Zach Schulz, Gavin Morrisey. It will be
alternate captains with you, and you have others too, great group.
Speaker 37 (25:49):
Of guys, so many guys in this team that are leaders.
And it's not one guy, it's not four guys. We
have like you said, we have tasks, we have fitsie.
We have horbes, we have kooks. We have a ton
of that'll lead by example, lead with their voice.
Speaker 8 (26:02):
And that's all.
Speaker 37 (26:03):
You can ask for as the teams that have so
many guys that you can lean on throughout the year.
Speaker 2 (26:07):
Yeah, and you never know what's gonna happen because there's
ups and downs. And we'll see what happens this weekend.
I know you guys are anxious to go. You've been
skating against each other.
Speaker 8 (26:15):
For a month.
Speaker 37 (26:15):
Yeah, We've been beating up on each other since about June,
so I think we're really excited to finally do it
on someone else this weekend.
Speaker 2 (26:21):
I have a lot of fun. Congrats and good luck.
Speaker 8 (26:23):
Thank you so much.
Speaker 2 (26:24):
Welcome. That's Ben dex Seimer. We'll be back in a moment.

Badgers are born brave. They're not afraid to face a
tough opponent or take on the impossible. A UW Health
Carbone Cancer Center, our team of doctors take on cancer
with that same badger stamina. Where others step back, we
step up, researching, treating, and defeating even the most complex cancers,
making us the only NCI designated comprehensive cancer center in
(28:20):
the state. So now from stadium to hospital, you can
count on Wisconsin and UW Health to fight and win.
UW Health Carbone Cancer Center remarkable.
Speaker 2 (28:37):
For those of you just tuning in hoping to hear
puck drop in a few minutes. Actually, game time is
set for seven to ten here tonight and tomorrow night,
so a little bit more time to talk about all
sorts of things. And how about Big ten hockey. You know,
Wisconsin's not going to start the conference campaign until October
thirtieth at home against Minnesota. It's a Thursday Saturday series
(29:00):
in the preseason coaches pulling the Big ten two time
defending regular season champion, Michigan State pick to win the
league title again, Penn State picked to finish second, Minnesota third,
then Michigan Wisconsin the fifth place choice among league coaches,
Ohio State six, and Notre Dame under new head coach
Brock Sheehan picked to finish last this season. And so far,
(29:22):
there are other games that are in action already, and
Michigan has jumped out to a four to one lead
at home over Mercy Hers Cole McKinney, a second round
draft choice. McKinney from the national team development program, scored
the first goal of the year for Michigan and then
assisted on the next two, so he's off to a
pretty good start. Also, Minnesota is at home against Michigan Tech.
(29:43):
That game will get underway shortly. Penn State opens at
Arizona State tonight and tomorrow night. Both of those games
will be live at nine o'clock Central time on the
NHL Network. So I know what I'm doing. After the
Badgers play linden Wood here tonight.
Speaker 7 (29:58):
Yeah, that's been a lot of hypes around Penn State's
new edition. You haven't that time a year made his
announced a must watch for a lot of people in
Canada and across the country.
Speaker 2 (30:08):
Certainly, so we'll get to the starting lineups here in
a moment, wanted to mention about linden Wood again. Keith Fisher,
their first year head coach, came over after thirteen years
as an assistant at Penn State. A team that has
sixteen new players from a year ago, seventeen Canadians. They
have three transfers, ten freshmen, ten sophomore. They have eight
returning forwards who played significant time, but they have three
(30:31):
new goaltenders. All their goaltenders are new. Their starter tonight
it's Minnesota Duluth transfer Clayton Knapp. But Keith Fisher, he's
been working his way to getting a head coaching job.
He gave a lot of credit to Mike Hastings for
helping develop him as a coach, and a lot of
credit to Guy Gadowski, obviously because Keith spent fifteen sixteen
(30:52):
years with Kadowski at Princeton and Penn State. But lo
and behold during pregame warmups, there is a protocol in
n CAA hockey where you have to be off the
ice at a certain time on the clock. Linden Wood
was not off the ice at that time and was
given a two minute protocol penalty. So Wisconsin will start
(31:13):
the season opener on a power plate. And that's brought
to you by Cunis.
Speaker 7 (31:19):
And lind Yeah, what a crazy way to start a year.
We're trying to think back when that's happened before. I
forget just the start of a season, start of a game.
I kind of remember back in like a Merrimack game
or somewhere a few years ago that that might have
happened with the opponent or I think Wisconsin actually might
have got called or something.
Speaker 8 (31:37):
But pretty rare thing.
Speaker 7 (31:39):
And even when it happens, like the refs are maybe
let that slide, but not here tonight. I wasn't even close.
I think they were shooting shots still when the when
the butther sounded and they're supposed to be long off
the ice. So kind of a crazy start, and we'll
get an early look at the power play.
Speaker 2 (31:54):
Yeah, exactly, by the way the referees tonight. From the
NCHC and cch Anthony and from Atlantic Hockey Andy Bethman
with linesman Vaughan Upton and Gerard Lamoreau Before we continue
and give you the starting lineups, Let's pause ten seconds
for station identification, ten seconds for a legal ID. You're
listening to Wisconsin Badger Hockey. Let's first get to our
(32:26):
UW Health Injury Report, brought to you by u Double
You Health Sports Medicine. Treating the Badgers, treating you. All
the Badgers healthy, but one sophomore Adam Piedla out with
an upper body injury. He hopes to return in the
next three to four weeks. Healthy scratches for Wisconsin Tonight
senior forward Tyson Dick, sophomore defenseman Weston Knox, freshman forward
(32:46):
Finn Brink, and sophomore goaltender Anton Castro. Starting lineup brought
to you by Quick Trip. We'll start with the host
Lions again. Clayton Napp in goal for Linnenwood, the sophomore
from Waterville, Ohio. Nap, a young man who played at
Duluth last year, went six six and two in sixteen
games as a freshman of two sixty seven goals against
(33:08):
in a nine oh seven save percentage. The defenseman Nolan
seed Seed, as a junior from Newborn, Ontario, a young
man that played collegiate hockey in Canada the last two years,
so he's technically a junior. Ethan Elias, a former Madison
Capital's captain who was at Saint Thomas year ago. At transfer,
(33:29):
the sophomore Elias had five points in twenty nine games.
Starting centerman for Lyndon Wood. Giovanni Murneau Morneau is a
young man where's number six came from. Carlton of Canadian
U Sports. Was an all rookie performer in that league
a year ago with fifteen goals and thirty three points
in twenty eight games. Lepp winger from Battle for Saskatchewan,
(33:51):
Jake Southgate playing in his sixty eighth career game with
linden Wood eleven career goals and Jaden Mercia, who potted
a pair in Lyndon, Wi Woods upset win over Wisconsin
at the Cole Center to start last season. He is
the starting right wing. He's a junior out of Saskatchewan.
As for the Wisconsin Badgers end goal, it's Daniel Hauser,
(34:12):
the freshman from Chestermere, British Columbia, five eleven, one hundred
and sixty six pounds. We've told you a few times
during the pregame show, the all time winning his goal
center in the history of the Western Hockey League. Starting
defenseman captain ben Beck Szheimer, the senior from me Dina,
playing in his one hundred eleventh game. He has six
goals and fifty six points in his career. Zach Schulz,
(34:35):
the junior from South Flyn, Michigan, will make the start
as well, four goals seventeen points in his sixty two
career games. Starting centerment for the Badgers five to eleven
sophomore Gavin Morrissey from Rochester Hills, Michigan. What a year.
Morrissey had a season ago, making the Big Ten All
freshman squad, had.
Speaker 7 (34:52):
Won a twelve Baggies all time to score thirty points
in a season. He started out with a bang last
year against the same Lineaman Lions with a goal first game.
Speaker 2 (34:59):
Yeah, it was great start for the freshman last year.
Now as sophomore in an alternate captain the right wing
Christian Fitzgerald six foot senior from Coquitland, British Columbia, twenty
nine goals seventy points at one hundred twelve collegiate games,
and the left winger Quinn Finley's six foot junior out
of Swamaco Wisconsin thirty goals in two years as a
Badger twenty a year ago, the last back to back
(35:22):
twenty goal scorer in Wisconsin hockey history. Michael Mersh over
a decade ago. He's got the ability to maybe pop thirty.
Totally different player. Mersh loved the front of the net.
Speaker 7 (35:33):
And Quinn Finley has got a wicket shot from anywhere
on the ice, and yeah, I'd fine to see him
get gone.
Speaker 2 (35:39):
Also the second line for the Badgers, sophomore Ryan Bottrel
with Oliver Tult, the freshman from Gibson's British Columbia, in
the middle, Simon Tassi, the senior on the right wing.
Third line left to right, Freshman Blake Montgomery at sixty four,
one hundred and eighty two pounds. That's sely zillanoff from Moscow,
Buffalo Sabers draft choice former Green Bay Gambler, will center
(36:01):
that third line, with senior Kyle Kuchenan on the right
wing and another freshman in the middle. Grady Deering on
the fourth line out of des Moines with Bruno each
and the freshman from Croatia on his left, and senior
Jack Horbach Auto is right. The other defensive pairs Joe
Platachuck with the Logan Henzler, Luke Osburn and Aden Dubinski,
Jack Phalin the Sophomore, the extra skater here tonight. So
(36:23):

It's time to drop the puck and hit the ice. No,
here's the voice of Badger Hockey. Brian Posick lost Tamil bianco.
Speaker 2 (39:33):
Is because of a protocol penalty. During pregame. Lyndon would
start shorthanded Wisconsin on a power play to start the
twenty twenty five, twenty sixth season. Gavin Morrissey wins the
drawback to Quinn Finley and we're underway. Badgers in the
road cardinal uniforms. Ben dex Seimer, the quarterback on the
number one power play unit. Morrissey turns the puck over
at the Lindenwood blue line and it's loffed it down
(39:54):
Wisconsin's way and Daniel Howser, out of his net, stops
it and leaves it for Dexheimer. So Dex I'm at
the top. We will see Simon Tassey, Quin Finley, Gavin Morrissey,
and Christian Fitzgerald on this power play unit. Badgers try
to gain possession of the offensive zone too, are right,
and they do. Dex Sheimer right wing, Fitzgerald back straight
away to deck Seimer left wing. Now openman. Morrissey backpedals
(40:16):
a little bit, and then Fitzgerald used his stick to
try to lip the stick of Tyler Lockman, one of
the penalty killers, and lifted the stick right out of
his hands. So the referee is going to call Fitzgerald
for slashing or high sticking. They'll say interference thirty seven
seconds in, So the Badgers don't even get a chance
(40:37):
to set up in the offensive zone. Really, and they're
all for one on the power play.
Speaker 7 (40:41):
Well, that's a weird start to a season. Knock on
the power play, and then you gotta think the refs.
You know, that's not pretty normal or not very normal
the protocol.
Speaker 8 (40:49):
It's kind of.
Speaker 7 (40:50):
A not unfair, but kind of an annoying little thing.
And the refs made that, took care of that with
Christin Fitzgerald helping them out and knock going to stick
out of a hand, all.
Speaker 2 (40:59):
Right, So the Badgers win the defensive zone face off,
Joe Pilatta chuck got it out of the zone, but
it's handed across far side, shot across the right wing,
when off a stick deflected behind the ap bounce to
the left of Houser, then pedaled back behind a cage.
Lindenwood picks up the loose buck Seed. The defenseman comes
down the left wing wall, knocked off, balanced by Tulk,
Seed tried to center, unable to do so. He had
(41:20):
a man in front, Ethan Zilky, but he was covered
nicely by the Badgers defenseman Logan Henzler, and now Wisconsin
has possession of the puck. Linden Wood will be out
of power play in fifty seconds. The Badgers got about
thirty seconds of man advantage hockey to start. Platta chuck
to the right wing, back pedaling in on side was Tulk.
His pass to the middle deflected out to center and
(41:41):
Aiden Dubinski the transfer from Minnesota to Luth has it
for Wisconsin. A head right wing to Finley, gets around
the defenseman Connor Jingle in from below the goal line.
Finley put it in front, went off the paddle of
the stick of a knap and then gathered in by
lindon Wood, and a long range shot across the line
comes to defenseman Delainey. Jake Delaney shot it too high.
(42:02):
Lyndon Wood tried to control out high, taken away by Wisconsin.
Here's Luke Osburn on the rush with Morrissey. Backhander through
the high crease, ricochet to the far side wall. Dubinski
now has it out high left its Finley stick candles
and drops for Osburn. Very quick left handed defenseman centering
pass swinging a miss by Morrissey and it comes out
(42:22):
to center and now Dubinsky's got a hustle back a
chance for linden Wood. And they ring the post. Ty
Hipkin beat Hawser gloves side. He hit the far post.
Badger's ad now Morrissey across the line, put it towards
the cage, swatted away by Nap into the possession of
lynden Wood. Here comes Jayden mercya to Southgate. He puts
(42:45):
it in front. Hauser makes the stop, hangs on. Little
shoved from Henzler. App beg your pardon, Jack Falin. After
the plane knocking Southgate down, we'll have a face off
inside the Wisconsin zone. No score. Two thirty three into
the opening period. Wisconsin here in Missouri playing linden Wood.
Speaker 7 (43:02):
Hard to get in the Badger's heads, but it looks
like a little nervousness here early a couple of fumbles
withs on Puck's. I can't tell what the ice is
like from up here, but Cavin Marci has a couple
of those badders kind of just look like they're starting
a new season.
Speaker 2 (43:17):
Sure, still fifteen seconds left to kill off and the
Lindenwood power play Badgers have it. Horbock slot shot by
Faling right over the top of the crossbar. Good set
up by Jack Horback to Jack fhalin the sophomore defenseman
who did not score a goal in thirty six games
a year ago, had a golden opportunity there.
Speaker 7 (43:36):
And the Badgers get the short power play or the
penalty kill all over with.
Speaker 2 (43:40):
So Badgers had full strength against Lyndon Wood and Zylan
f up the middle of the ice. Lanky left hander
goes to the left wing on the charge. Blake Montgomery
has shot handcuffs the goaltenders stopped though by nap a
huge collision right in front of the Lindenwood net. Zillan
Off is slow, rolls over now going hand and knees
(44:01):
gets up and he is slow to get to the
Badger's bench. That's actually Joe Polatachuck, not ninety four but fourteen.
Joe Polatachuck, who three times a year ago was knocked
out because of various injuries. Very shaken up in the
opening period here in Missouri.
Speaker 7 (44:19):
Having Kyle Kuchenan in the slot, the puck was up
in the air. They're both trying to go for it
and it was a pretty hard hit against each other.
Speaker 2 (44:25):
Ethan Zilk, the Calgary native off of the left wing,
shot by his line made. Charles Savois was paddled aside
or waffled his side by Houser. Now Wisconsin's Morrissey left
wing passed too far ahead of Finley, taken back now
by Brady Yakish afforder former Madison Capitol right handed defenseman
hands off to his teammate, Brody Mortenson out of Humboldt,
(44:47):
Saskatchewan up to neutral ice. Luis Philippe Fontayne had it.
Lynnenwood controls at the red Lion. It's Mortensen. He'll dump
it down in bounces between the wickets of Houser behind
the net. There was Zach Schulz to play it. Then
the Badger's coughing up back can't shut by Kusmas, stopped
nicely by Howser, knocked out towards the blue line, held
(45:08):
in by the Lions trying to get to it. Fitzgerald
instead taking Aby Fontaine down the left wing wall. Wanted
a point pass, but Morrissey in the passing lane. Then
hands off Kuzma Kuzman. He walks in left goal line,
stopped by auser with his blocker. Badger's really struggling. Linden
Wood coming out with a ton of energy, playing much
like Penn State like to play. When Keith Fisher was
(45:30):
the longtime assistant there.
Speaker 7 (45:32):
I could play Kuzma coming off the wall a lefty,
so he was his stick was kind of outside short side.
He tried to beat how is there that side, but
there was no room and he kind of missing at there.
Speaker 2 (45:42):
Fifteen ten ago in the opening period, no score. We'll
see if we'll see Joe palatachuck back out of the
ice boy. He had his bell rung here by his
own teammate accidentally. A little while ago. Grady beering out
for the Badgers the freshman centerment on the fourth line
with Jack Horbox and Bruno Eagen, Horbock knocks a man
(46:03):
down behind the Wisconsin cage. Hipkin shoves Horbock back once twice,
knocked him to his knees and his belly, and a
pedalty coming up on ty Hipkin, who then kind of
haphazardly cross checked Hornback in the back of the head,
not all that strongly. Nevertheless, he was a little upset
with Horbock and vice versa. Hipkin's gonna get two minutes
(46:24):
at the five seven tea mark unless they're gonna take
a boat. It was more than one head on Horbock.
Speaker 7 (46:30):
He got hit once, got up partly the way and
got knocked down again.
Speaker 2 (46:33):
They're gonna take him. They're gonna take Horbock also, Wow,
they're gonna match him up to Jack, looking asking why
they're gonna take Hipkeen for cross checking and Horbock. I'm
not sure what the call was against Jack, but it'll
(46:55):
be four on four here for the next two minutes.
Time of the Pedales five seventeen. I'm not sure what
that sign lest at a game. If you usually the
officials are easy to tell that.
Speaker 7 (47:03):
He almost looked like gave a timeout cymball our signal.
We're playing mostly special teams here early on first five
minutes or so in this season, shots on goal.
Speaker 2 (47:15):
For to one in favor of Lyndon Wood. Lions have
come out with some jump. This arena senteen Community Center
seats about two thousand or so. Side of an NCAA
regional couple of years ago, there's a big hit by
Southgate on Dubinski. Badgers get the puck and it slides
all the way down to the Lindenwood zone to our right,
and it seats about two thousand fans. There may be
(47:37):
a thousand here tonight. Quite a few wearing red Dubinsky
hustles back into his own zone, flips it back for
Osburn and then Fodderal knocked off balanced by the defenseman
Jake Delaney, freeing the puck for the Lions. Long fat
lead feed deflected by Southgate, spins behind the Badger's net,
and Hawser leaves for Osburn. Osburn the USHL defensive player
(47:58):
of the Year last year with the Youngstown Phantoms. Here's
Oliver Tulk right wing, lifted a shot too high. Hensler
down the left wing wall to hold his own. Pressured
on the far boards there by Jaden Mercia and taken
away by Lyndon Wood and the Badger's only one shot
on goals so far about six minutes in. They missed
(48:18):
the target a number of times. Jack Falen had a
golden opportunity in a four on four situation. Here's Mortensen,
the defenseman charging in, takes a goal line right, looks
for an open man, finds him low shot, this time
by the defenseman Yakish. Now Ood with it, Ood stick
Cansel into the slots out to Yakish, His pass off
Eskate back to Yakish, his shot over the crossbar. Pensler
(48:41):
may have gotten a piece of his He went to
his knees to block it. Pallata chuck back out for
the Badgers team with Logan Hensler.
Speaker 7 (48:47):
That's good news for Wisconsin. That's huge news after last year.
He talked about how he's starting the season healthy. And
then first first or second chef he goes down.
Speaker 2 (48:54):
Steal, selling off move by Montgomery. Can't get a shot
off now dex Sheimer right dot cut down to the
goal line. Good poke check sliding by Morrison and now
it's Montgomery straightaway Zillanoff. His shot was blocked by Mortenson,
ricocheted the near wall. Zellanoff again, just took an elbow
right to the cranium. He goes down hard. We play on.
(49:17):
It looked like he got hit in the head from
my vantage point, Paul, but it may have been elbow
or forearmed a chest, but his head really whipped back. Zilanoff.
He's still out on the ice now getting a change,
no score. Seven and a half minutes into the opening period.
Speaker 7 (49:31):
I look like Adam Reisler. Welcome to college hockey. Hit
on Vasili Zillanov.
Speaker 2 (49:38):
Stick handling Kuzma. He's a big felling on around Fitzgerald
up to the blue line. Now Savoir wax it down
to the corner. Kuzma back to Savouah his shot too high, collision.
Fitzgerald went down Lindenwood with the buck. The defenseman Seed
fires one behind the cage, off the glass. Finley's now
got it, snaps off a pass to center and fitch
(50:00):
Gerald won on two throws a wild pass to the slot,
no one there. Finley tried to chase it down. Dubinski
holds for the Badgers. Shot was redirected in front. Fitzgerald centers,
here's a chance for Morrissey, put it too high.
Speaker 7 (50:13):
Better's trying to get the pucks out of the net.
You talked about linen Wood and playing like Penn State.
Badgers have been around a little bit, just haven't connected
and gotten the puck around.
Speaker 2 (50:22):
Finley stick handling out to the point. Osbourne shot that
hit his teammate Morrissey in the backside. Dubinski down the wall.
The defenseman in the corner possessing throws a past nice
hole by Osburn straight away. It's Bruno Incheon and his
shot went wide from long range and then a hit
on the near side wall in a penalty coming up
on Lyndon Wood as Fitzgerald got smoked from behind by
(50:44):
Charles Savoir and Wisconsin, we'll get a power play with
eight thirty three gone by here in the opening period.
Speaker 7 (50:53):
Yeah, Fitzgerald checking himself there fine clipping his mask and
pulling his helmet off. Physical play here by Lynnenwood obviously
took a penalty earlier and hitting Jack Horback a couple
of times, who also ended up in the box. We
saw the big hit a little bit ago by Raisler
on Zellin off and then this one to the box
(51:15):
right away here Lindwood.
Speaker 2 (51:18):
Thirty three at the time of the pedalty, loose puck
in front, reaching for a tass he can't make contact.
Yakish throws it out the center, silky splits. Two Badgers
pumped it deep and Hensler picks up the loose biscuit
and here comes Logan Hensler, nineteenth Wisconsin Badger to be
selected in the first round of the National Hockey League Draft,
taken by the Ottawa Senators. This pass spray flying in
(51:38):
for Wisconsin Brian botterrel his shot deflected. E John holds
far side Tulk straight away, Hensler back to Oliver Toulk
right handed set up man, you can shoot. The puck too,
passed down to the goal line for Tassy couldn't control
and heaved all the way down by the Lions to
go on the power play. The Badgers on that man
(52:00):
advantage after the boarding penalty to Charles Savois at eight
thirty three. Here's talk now into the offensive zone out high.
Henzler waits and shoots it got through the neat ra
about Badger's hammer it in Wisconsin gets on the board
with a power play goal here in the opening period.
Give that one to Christian Fitzgerald, one nothing, Wisconsin.
Speaker 7 (52:23):
I found himself in front of the net. Puck just
got on the net from the point Fitzgerald in front.
There was a couple of batters there. Fitzgerald is the
first one to get his stick on the puck hit
dead center in the back of the net.
Speaker 8 (52:35):
The Batters get.
Speaker 7 (52:36):
To get to take advantage of these early power plays
and take a one nothing lead.
Speaker 2 (52:41):
Christian Fitzgerald six goals, one power play goal is a junior.
Last season, he lights the lamp at nine to twenty
seven and the Badgers with a one nothing lead here
on the road against Linnenwood, and they win the ensuing
faceoff and dex Szheimer will dump it in Lindenwood tries
to rim it around and out it's caught up on
(53:03):
the shelf near the glass and bat it out to center.
Orboch wipes out near the Lindenwood bench. Across the way.
The Lions clad in white uniforms, black helmets and tram
along with a little bitter yellow as well.
Speaker 8 (53:17):
You and the.
Speaker 2 (53:17):
Badgers in their road Cardinal love that diagonal Wisconsin down
the chest, break out or bock up the middle of
to Zill Andov tried to push it deep, put it
right on the stick of the Lindenwood Lions and they'll
set it back down in Lindenwood seems just content to
get it deep and make a change. They did just there.
(53:39):
Horbach tried to catch near the Lindenwood blue line, stumbled
down and they break out. Connor jingles up to the
nearest wall near the scorer's table, and now Plaachuck pooked
it back to center. Oliver talk gets an assist on
the goal by Fitzgerald. The primary helper goes to Hensler.
(54:00):
The first point is a Badger for freshman Oliver Tulk
and the first goal of the year this season, scored
by Christian Fitzgerald. Stretch pass ahead intendant for e John
knocked away by Lyndon Wood. It the flects deep into
the Lion zone and Jingle after it there from Northville, Michigan,
the freshman defenseman Connor Jingle, now Tassy in the corner.
(54:21):
Simon started the evening with Oliver Tolkien, Ryan Vodril right
now Bruno Egen is out there with Grady Deering. Now
Tassy knocked down from behind near the Lindenwood bench. He
exchanges cross checks with Delaney. Now Tassy Tea's one up.
Pat saved nap. He's down and out on his back.
He scrambles back to his knees, but the Badgers couldn't
pick up the loose change and it's out to neutralize
(54:45):
one nothing Wisconsin, eight thirty five to go.
Speaker 7 (54:47):
In the first nice quick, simple play there, Simon Tassy
final a little soft spot high in the zone, right
at the top of the circle. Just one time on net.
Speaker 2 (54:55):
Osburn had the puck stank cattle in the center circle,
and Silky just put his stick down and jammed it back.
Badger's regained possession in Morrissey directions to the lyndon Wood
ze over skating was Pat Drick Schmedlin and then it's
cleared out to neutral ice and deflected near the Lions bench,
stopping plague Hey thirteen to go in the opening period
(55:15):
of play, Christian Fitzgerald a power play goal at nine
twenty seven. Wisconsin leads lynden Wood one to nothing. We'll
return in one minute. This is badger hockey from Airfield Hey,
Drew Johnson Scott.

The Badgers for one and one all time against linden Wood.
They lost the season opener to the Lions of the
Coal Center last season four to two, as Mercier scored
a couple of goals. Owen Barties Skevitch made thirty four
saves in that linden would victory. Badgers bounce back to
win the nightcapra the finale three two and overtime. Quinn
Finley scored twice for the Badgers. Daniel lotch at the
(56:54):
game winner in ot but Wisconsin getting some bitsier from
lynden Wood early, although the Badgers with a one nothing lead,
and Paul You pointed out that Badgers didn't have the
lead against linden Wood last year.
Speaker 7 (57:08):
Oh, they were up one goal and a couple times
the first night, and they were up to nothing before
the Badgers came back in the second night. So this
is Wisconsin's first lead against the Lions here Since the
previous series.
Speaker 2 (57:22):
I mentioned that lynnen Wood two nineteen and one all
time against Big ten opposition. In those twenty two games
against Big Ten foes, linnen Wood's been outscored on average
four point seven to one point nine, so almost by
three goals a game. But they beat the Badgers last year.
They also beat Notre Dame a year ago. Two That
(57:44):
was under Bill mccolts, who came here from Michigan lasted
one season. Steal tassy right wing looking slot pass. It
split the intended receivers Tolkien Bottl and now a long
range blast by Pilatachuck goes high. Billy mccult left, though,
and went to Michigan Tech, replacing Joe Shawn who was
let go during the offseason. So Keith Fisher, the third
(58:07):
coach for linden Wood in the last three years. A
lot of chuck tries to reverse deep in the Badger's zone.
Wisconsin almost copped it up. Ooh to have the puck
for a moment knocked down. Here's Oliver Tulk Tult the
right hander stick Candle's two center. Badgers had too many
men on the ice that they're getting caught for Ensler
and a lot of Chuck are the deep pair, but
(58:27):
dex Sheimer came out Ensler was already on the ice.
Badgers get a bench minor for too many men on
the ice and so Lyndon Wood will get it. Second
power play of the night with Wisconsin leading one nothing.
Speaker 7 (58:42):
A little bit of bad luck there for Wisconsin. The
line change happening with the two d and the puck
Oliver Tulik I think it was had the puck up
the ice, got knocked off a stick and floated over
to where the line change was happening and kind of
looked at each other that one of them played it,
and it was too many men on the.
Speaker 8 (58:57):
Ice of the Badgers. They get their first full penalty
killed here.
Speaker 2 (59:00):
You know, you'd like to look smooth and crisp and
sharp in your season opener. Hasn't happened so far for
Wisconsin here tonight, and Lyndon Woods had its issues too,
But credit the Lions. They've come out with some juice
and playing at pace the way Keith Fisher wants them to.
(59:21):
So the minor too many men on the ice being
served by Hensler at twelve fifty five totally kill Unit
four Wisconsin, Gavin Morrissey and Jack Horback the forwards defensively.
It's Aden Dubinski and Joe pullouta chuck. Morrisey able to
flip one past Schmeddling and down into the linden Wood
zone and quickly Nolan Seed goes get a turnover and
(59:43):
Horback had a chance centered won nobody home for the Badgers.
Horback took it away low right and threw it in front,
but Morrissey was leaving that vicinity.
Speaker 7 (59:53):
High pressure there by the Badgers on the kill. Marssey
fouled to lend him a d all the way down
into the zone cause the turnover. When Horbach was supporting him.
Speaker 2 (01:00:03):
S Medlin across the line Linnenwood looking right wing to
set it up. Mercia throws it out to the points
see to the far wing pass deflected taken away by
Fitzgerald and nudged it out to center, wasting more time
on the Lindenwood power play. Here's Jaden Mercia, no man
from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, out muscled in the near side by
(01:00:25):
Falen and Shoals picks it up and throws it all
the way down. One minute to go on the Lindenwood
power play one nothing Wisconsin. Christian Fitzgerald a power play
goal at nine twenty seven from Logan Henzler and Oliver
Tulk borback and Morrissey back out with Dubinski and Poladachuck
on the pique oo across the line left hand or
back tour. That was an aerial feed that Louis Philippe
(01:00:48):
Fontayne could not bet in. He had Houser going right
to left, but it looked like Fontaine had room to
put that puck away, just couldn't make contact with it.
Speaker 7 (01:00:57):
Yeah, if he would have hit that out of the
air and put that in the net, that would have
been a highlighter to start the year for Lindenwood.
Speaker 2 (01:01:02):
Remember Finley, one of his two goals against linden Wood
last season to start the year was a swing and
a line drive into the back of the net on
a puck that was popped up belt high ears food
toe drag is shot partially blocked off this stick of
Pilada Chuck behind the net. Dubinski does a nice job
to tie up Razler, freed the biscuit for Piladachuck. Then
(01:01:22):
he got it too. Findley and he'll fling it all
the way down long lead feed by the goal Tener
intorcepted by Deering across the line, looking shooting too high.
Hensler's out of the box. After the delay of game
or two minim men on the ice pedally and the
Badger's back at full strength with just under five minutes
to go. Here in the opening period, one nothing Wisconsin Deering,
good pressure. Here's Tassy in tight stop by Nap. A
(01:01:45):
one timer by Tassy on a feed from Deering, and
Nap at the top of the blue paint made the
same and held on.
Speaker 7 (01:01:52):
We don't know what the Linwood powerfulay looks is when
the season gets gone. With the batter palty kill was
really good on that chef, putting pressure on Lindenwood. They
can time a space away even in the offensive zone
for Wisconsin. And then great read by great Grady Dearing
coming off, coming on to the ice, picking off a
pass and getting a couple of chances there again pressure
(01:02:12):
both times.
Speaker 2 (01:02:14):
For most of preseason training camp, Tyson Dick had been
the center on the Badger's fourth line, but Grady Dearing
has continued to improve. As the month of September went along,
the freshman from Des Moines. Is a big young lad
at six two two to oh one, a long reach.
He's got a knack for putting the puck away around
(01:02:35):
the net. Here's Kyle Kuchanan on the rush. He had
the puck, lost the pucks Ilenel picks it up thrown
by his shoals on goal, knap on his knees, stopped
it with his stick and then covered for twenty seven
ago in the first Wisconsin with a one to nothing lead.
Hey see how a Lion Energy is building a strong
resilient energy future today and for generations to come. Learn
(01:02:57):
more at a Lion Energy dot com backslash Powering beyond
one nothing Wisconsin Tassie with e John and deering. E
John lost the puck though, and Linnenwood will dump it
(01:03:18):
in speddling quickly after it. Dubinsky meets him behind the
badrews net Osbourne there for support, but John Evans takes
it away the extra skater for Lyndon Wood. Osburn took
it right back and flipped it out the center. Now
four minutes to go on the period comes out to neutral.
Here's Louke Osburn osb u rn Osburn. They call him
Ozzie fleet footed nifty, He's got all sorts of energy.
(01:03:44):
Dubinsky now will fire a d E John in on
the fore chet, daring waiting, and he takes the pucked
away from a man's shoulders, silky into the corner boards,
battling still for it. Try to kick it out to Osburn.
Eventually Rody Mortenson, the left handed defenseman, gathered it in
for linden Wood. He tried to clear Schmdlin, unable to
(01:04:04):
do so. He'll try again out to the point. Knocked down,
held in Falen long Raine shut the went off the
body of Teering behind the net, looking over his right shoulder.
The goaltender nap and then Yakish ties up. Hearing Kuchanan
throws his body around puck out it sent our eyes
and gathered in by deck Seimer. Team captain deck Seimer
leaves his three way through two lions, ran into a third.
(01:04:25):
Lost possession for a moment, but there's Wisconsin's Kukanen to
sweep it back to the corner. Now, talk to Kuchanen
right dot bat it off his stick. Three minutes left
in the period. Want nothing, Wisconsin a lot of chucks,
stick handling he'll shove it down to the corner. Jakish
ties up another Badger. There's kuchanin in on the four
check knocked off balance fuck taken away by Lyndon Wood.
(01:04:47):
Morton's into Southgate angled a long lead feet for Evans,
but he was headed to the Lions bench for a chain,
so the Badgers have it back. Ryan Botteril now deflects
into the attacking zone to our right. It's all in suits.
Tassy can't lowcate left wing puck lifted over both the
leaping bottrel and Dubinsky run down south Kate right wing
left hander looking looking slot and he lost the handle
(01:05:10):
on the puck and then shoved it to the corner
and the Badgers take it away. It's gathered in by
Tassy from the blue line. He'll dump it in off
the boards bottrel after it Tassy got spun around and
down he goes. Henzeler's shut one off one of the
Lions to the corner. Mercya picks up the loose puck,
big right handed forward outlets to see the defenseman backpedaling. Dubinski.
(01:05:30):
Seed dumps in and then beers and turns to his
left and heads to the Lindenwood bench for a change.
Now Finley, pressured by Fontaine, coughed it up, got it
back with help from Morrissey. Finley won on three left
wing toepole shoots one off the stick, Get up, get
out of play. Hey, Badger fans, if you're listening to
this right now, it's time for a reward. Reward your

Speaker 7 (01:06:00):
Finley with a nice play there, actually coming out of
his own zone. I think he's heard the footsteps Linnenwood
dumped the puck off, spun around to try to get
it back.
Speaker 8 (01:06:09):
Didn't work out perfectly.
Speaker 7 (01:06:10):
He did get the puck back again and got up
the ice and got off another shot there, attempted one.
Speaker 2 (01:06:15):
Twenty goals forty points for quin Finley a year ago,
tied for sixteen in the country, and goals scored with
a young man by the name of Leam Molmquist who
played at Saint Thomas now in the East Coast League
with the Idaho steel Heads and ty Pelton Weiss one
forty left of the first steel Fitzgerald passed slot Morrisey,
(01:06:36):
what's he going to do didn't shoot now picks it up.
It didn't get through to the net as he fired
it finley outside the right circle. He worked straight away
his shot to the right of the goal tender. Nap
reached out with his stick, deflected it over the glass,
and with ninety seconds to play, the Badgers get an
offensive zone face off, leading one to nothing.
Speaker 7 (01:06:54):
Feels like a lot of Wisconsin's shots there bouncing off Linnenwood.
Players on the ice batterers are just trying to get
that puck around the You've seen the whole time there's
been people in front of the net, around the net.
That's how they got their goal with Christian Fitzgerald. So
when the puck gets through there there for the rebounds
and looking for that sip of play. There's been a
lot of work on that in the preseason, as there
(01:07:14):
is always with with Mike Hastings as the head coach
and just getting the pucks through. Here will be some
more executions.
Speaker 2 (01:07:21):
Face off one dack Sheimer just walks in low left,
but he shot it too high. He got within ten
feet and raised it over the head of the six
foot two inch goals at her. Clayton Napp back to
the Badger zone. It comes shots on goal ten to six.
Now in paper of Wisconsin, it was five to one
at one point Lions and now the Badger's Montgomery right
(01:07:43):
wing pass Zilin off deflected and carems out to center
with one minute to go in the opening period, ZeLing
off ahead to Montgomery off his stick, kind of take
it away from Yakish, but instead linden Wood flips it
out nearside Schmdlin to center, stolen by Wisconsin Zillanov, who
(01:08:04):
had his head down once tonight and got clobbered here
he stick kennels a little bit, kept his head up.
Montgomery did not. Yakish knocks that freshman down puck play
behind the Lindenwood nets and now eventually lifted back out
to neutral ice, slides on edge before Piladachuck will chase
it down, turns to his right head now to Hensler,
(01:08:25):
redirects into the attacking zone and would after it trying
to pull even. With fifteen seconds left in the first
hokukn Ha had his stick lifted, couldn't play the puck cleanly.
Osbourne slows down a forward the Badger's throw it off
the glass near side. Six seconds here comes e John
trying to get around the freshman Seed. Seed puts his
shoulder into e John took the puck away. Bruno got
(01:08:48):
it back, but then the Orange sounds ending the opening
period of play. Christian Fitzgerald of power play goal at
nine twenty seven and after one period. In this season

After one period, Wisconsin leads Lyndenwood one to nothing. Christian
Fitzgerald scored on a powerplay at nine twenty seven from
Logan Henzler and Oliver Tulk shots on goal in favor
of Wisconsin eleven to six. The Badgers won for two
on the power play. Lyndenwood was all for two. Both
teams had three pedalties in the opening period. Badgers won
(01:10:50):
eight of thirteen face offs. Lyndenwood blocked five shots in
the opening period of play. Kind of looked like the
first period of a new hockey season.
Speaker 8 (01:11:00):
Oh for sure.
Speaker 7 (01:11:01):
I think the first five minutes for Wisconsin, maybe a
little bit more. It looked a little nervous. Pucks are
not quite connecting, bouncing going off with sticks.
Speaker 8 (01:11:09):
It was a crazy start.
Speaker 7 (01:11:10):
Badgers started with a power play off a protocol violation
by lynnen Wood. I went away pretty quick. But then
special teams was pretty good for wiscons so they got
a power play goal in there. The penalty kill was
outstanding in the one full penalty kill they had, so
that's a sign of things to come. That's a heck
of a way to start the season with special teams.
Daniel Hauser got a couple touches early, made a couple
(01:11:31):
of saves, didn't get a lot of action, but most
of it was early on. And then from there it
seems like the Badgers kind of started playing how they
want to, getting the pucks back to the point, getting
trying to get shots on net, got a lot of
action around the net, or at least guys around the
net looking for those pucks. And again a slow start. Again,
it's the start of a new season, but you got
(01:11:51):
to kind of like, what's what you've seen so far?
Lynden Wood super physical that period. We started looking down
of the Badgers that got hit. Some freshmen. The silly
zillan off got leveled pretty good. I saw Blake Montgomery
take a pretty good hit of the side, So some
of those guys waking up to the speed. A little
bit of what college hockey's like. But obviously you come

the start of the year now.

Well it's the Wisconsin men's hockey team opens the season
on the road against Lynden Wood, leading one nothing after
one period of play. The Wisconsin women's hockey team opened
it season weekend with nine to two and five nothing
wins at the Midgie State and then tonight at Lebon
Arena prior to their home opener against the main Black Bears.
The Badger women raise their eighth national championship banner to
(01:16:14):
the Raptors. Truly amazing and they are the odds on
favorite to win their ninth national championship these this season
if they can stay healthy. They've got a boat load back.
Speaker 7 (01:16:23):
Though they do interesting are women's talking with the Olympics
and everyone's sticking around. But the batters have, like I said,
a great talent some spectacular new players.

Speaker 7 (01:16:35):
There with Mally Anksham the newly minted Badger Hall of

sire in Wisconsina. Kind of need to see her back now.
Speaker 2 (01:16:45):
Molly are in her second year as the head coach

about Brianna Decker going into the the Hockey Hall of Fame,
that's impressive. Congratulations to her. Joe Pavelski inducted into the

going into the US Hockey Hall of Fame. And tip
of the cap to Mark Masolini. Former UW Stevens Point

Dot sconsin leads, lynden Wood won nothing after the opening
period of play again eleven to six shots on goal
in favorite the Badgers, Grady Deering and Simon Tassy each
had two shots on goal. The lead Wisconsin Drew Kusman
(01:19:27):
had two shots on goal for lyndon Wood. Wisconsin one
eight of thirteen face offs. You know, Wisconsin was one
of the best face off teams in the country a
year ago, a fifth best at fifty five percent. How
about Gavin Morrissey, one of the better face off men
in the Big Ten last year, four for four of
the circles so far tonight, Yeah.
Speaker 7 (01:19:46):
That was oh and lend Mark that was one of
his special team sees. I always say gone now. Marsey
had a great year in the circle and that's you know,
that's a key thing. You get the puck right away
the way Mike Casings wants to play with puck possession,
he win those face offs and get hit four chances
than the other team.
Speaker 2 (01:20:03):
Take a look at what's going on in elsewhere in
college hockey and the Wisconsin Badgers. You know, obviously in
the Big Ten, the team picked to win the league.
Two time defending conference champion. Michigan State played a hitters
our bigger part in an exhibition game today and beat
Winsor four to nothing. Former Badger Charlie Strammels scored for
(01:20:25):
the Spartans, so did riker Lee, the rookie of the
year in the USHL with the Madison Capitals a year ago.
So Michigan State wins its exhibition opener for nothing. Notre
Dame is playing the National team development program tonight in
South Bend. By the way, the Badgers will host the
US Under eighteen team next Thursday night, seven o'clock at
(01:20:46):
the Cole Center and live on the Badgers Sports Network tonight.
Regular season action starts for Penn State made it to

State at nine pm, Michigan a seven to one lead
over Mercy Ors. Third period in ann Arbor, Will Horkoff
a couple of goals for the Wolverines and Brody zeemer
(01:21:08):
as a goal. Minnesota and Michigan techer tied at one
after two periods of play. Here, Wisconsin leads Lyndon Wood
won a nothing. That's your American Family Insurance first intermission report.

Speaker 7 (01:24:55):
I can't say. My wife's probably listening. Actually, look, there's
a poster the at the lobby at the hotel. You're
talking about musical access. A pretty good group of people
that played here over this last.
Speaker 2 (01:25:06):
Year, fantastic, including Willie Nelson, Bob Dylan, the Daniel Rateliff
in the Night Sweats, and the Outlaw Tour which made
its way to Alpine Valley last month. Ninety two year
old Willie Nelson was amazing all right. Both teams at
full strength, one nothing Wisconsin. As we start the second
period of play, Badgers headed to our left. To start
(01:25:28):
this period, the Badgers dumped it in, Finley coughed it
up and now here comes more no for Lyndon Wood
passed to the left wing, handcuffs the defenseman Seed Banks
off the far wall, and Finley's got a two on one,
Dex shimmer backpedaling, Finley shoots right wing and whipped it wide.
Flloway out to centerize. Glyndon would add a two on two,
but Mercier fell down. Now it pass moreno to Mercier
(01:25:50):
didn't get two on Melias. Following up the big right,
Ander fires one on goal stop by Houser. He hangs
on thirty eight seconds into the second one Wisconsin.
Speaker 8 (01:26:01):
That dangerous missed.
Speaker 7 (01:26:02):
There Quin Finley coming down the right wing with a
defense with him, tries to go look like he was
trying to hit the far side of the net.
Speaker 8 (01:26:09):
Miss It came all the way up the zone, and like.
Speaker 7 (01:26:12):
You mentioned, a fortunate fallover by Lindenwood coming over the zone.
Kind of stop the momentum for the Lions.
Speaker 2 (01:26:21):
These are short corners. Here he had linden Wood, here's
Joe Pallata chuck now centerized pass. Tassi had it on
his stick, tried to sweep it deep, unsuccessful, taken away
by silky pass to the slot the trailer, though Savoir
couldn't reach the puck. Andrews love it back all the
way could have been icing, but it's waved off and
(01:26:41):
then Borel took a pretty good hit from the defenseman
to Laney and it's thrown out to center. Penzler comes
flying in from out near the Badger's blue line and
pokes the puck free at center and gets it deep
into the Lindenwood zone and then sent back to neutral ice.
Christian Fitzgerald first goal of the year. Power played Sally,
he has Wisconsin on top. Luke Osburn, the freshman back
(01:27:03):
in his own end, just wiped out.
Speaker 7 (01:27:06):
Looked like he fell over the goal line or something,
and he did a little matrix spind.
Speaker 2 (01:27:10):
Yeah, here's Osburn. Now hash Mark's left Botteril cycles down
to the corner. Kukonen tried to draw it off the wall,
Yakish got on the way and now Kuchanon will hustle
back into the Wisconsin zone to get to it. Being
(01:27:32):
all state with benild Saint Margaret's in Minnesota as well.
Yeah cause now the puck played out to center ice
and it's Blake Montgomery for the Badgers and he'll settle
things down back behind his own nets. One nothing Wisconsin
with the lead, Zach Schulz will skate it up token
(01:27:53):
one one three four check for Lindenwood and the puff
deflected on goal and napped calmly just tinted to his
right pad and he gets a face off. Now Kuzma
and Montgomery yapping just a bit. Drew Kuzma six six
(01:28:14):
to eighteen lake Montgomery stands every bit as tall as
Drew Kuzma, but I think Kuzma might have fifty founds
on the young.
Speaker 7 (01:28:21):
Man, silky smooth skater long, but definitely has some work
ahead of him in the weight room. I think he
might have sprayed the goaltender a little bit on that
one to tay Kuzma was going after him. I think
the goaltender Nap wasn't very happy after Montgomery went by him.
Speaker 2 (01:28:36):
During one of the face off, Eachohn played it to
the corner, Horback got shouldered off the fuck now Eachhn,
with it spinning around the right circle, finally locates the
biscuit and fires a pass right through the high slot
all the way out to neutral ice. Falan and Shoals
out defensively for the Badgers. I mentioned e John daring
Horback out there too. The Badgers five skaters right now,
(01:29:00):
Falan below his goal line, getting support from Shoals. Jack
comes out of there with it and taps ahead deering.
Now Protect snaps off the pass to e John right
off his stick with the badgerws Falan trailing lobs it
down deep into the Lindenwood zone. Now we'll make a change.
E John tried to force e turnal. We're pulls it
off the wall left wing steps in just one club
(01:29:22):
Satan made by Nappy hangs on all Bruno Ejen had
a chance and Nap up to the task, making this
stop his eleventh save in the night.
Speaker 7 (01:29:33):
That's one thing you like about Bruno e John is
he looks for shots.
Speaker 8 (01:29:37):
Yes he's He's got a.
Speaker 7 (01:29:38):
Pretty good one too, as we've seen in practice and
even early on here today. And that one just comes
off the boards, doesn't mess around and really nice shot going.
Look like I was headed far post right above the
paths with the goaltender.
Speaker 8 (01:29:50):
Nap with the glove save.
Speaker 2 (01:29:52):
Bruno E John idz a n from Croatia. First Croatian,
so let have sixth round this pass spring six feet
one ninety three. He's built like a brick pagoda. Here's
a shop by Wisconsin's deck shimmer may have been blocked
by a scrawled out southgate linden Wood tries to clear
and got it around pass the point man pull out
(01:30:13):
of Chuck hustling after it now is Giovanni Moore. No,
but not fast enough because Linden would have cleared, no
contact made with a puck and slid all the way
down in the Wisconsin's own icing cold on the Lions.
He John you know, played at Lincoln last year, twenty
five goals, forty seven points in the forty two regular season.
In postseason games he played in, he finished second in
(01:30:36):
that league in points per game. He started his season
overseas and then came to went to Lincoln in the
United States and really put on a show for the
stars down in Nebraska.
Speaker 8 (01:30:52):
Okay, we are that talented.
Speaker 7 (01:30:55):
Three four five award winning or at least very talented
nice guys from last year in different leagues that join
the Badgers this offseason.
Speaker 2 (01:31:04):
Defensive zone face off, the Badger's trying to control, but
Dyakish has it and then Wisconsin Finley just got upended
in front of the net. He went down hard, but
he's back upon his skates. No harm, no foul. Apparently,
Fitzgerald with Finley and Morrissey Southgate tried to pull it off.
The near side boards and wiggles free and taken by
more Nos. Snaps off of past to Mercy Eate he'll
(01:31:25):
scoop it into the Wisconsin zone. Icing waved off. He
hadn't gained the red line. But we play on and
now Linnenwood will spin it around back to center and
Jake Delaney. He goes D to D and Jingle did
not want any piece of the Badger coming his way.
Dex Szeimer with a captain c flipped a backhand pass
to Fitzgerald. He was cut off. Dex Sheimer will again
(01:31:48):
will try to break the Badgers out. Fifteen forty five
left in the second one nothing Wisconsin Christian Fitzgerald a
power play goal. About halfway through the first night, Bakers.
Speaker 8 (01:31:57):
Look like they're sitting up for a power pulay.
Speaker 7 (01:31:59):
Here dex Shimer behind the net, but they're holding the
pucket and a full line change off.
Speaker 2 (01:32:04):
Here's Morrissey got crushed near boards by Savoir. Morrissey back up.
He appears to be okay, and now Tassy tied up
with the defense, been deep in the linen Wood zone
and they're gonna blow a whistling off side on Wisconsin.
Tassy and Savoa were tied up our Beggar Pardon Delaney
(01:32:25):
were tied up down in the corner after Morrissey got
smoked on the near side boards. Boy, they are laying
the lumber of the linden Wood lines.
Speaker 8 (01:32:33):
Yeah, they haven doing that the whole game.
Speaker 7 (01:32:34):
That was an interesting play there, Savoy Savoie, Oh gosh,
I've done that.
Speaker 2 (01:32:40):
It's it's savoah, but it looks like Savoy.
Speaker 8 (01:32:42):
I've done that ten times in my head.
Speaker 7 (01:32:44):
Anyway, he nailed Morrissey on the side and kind of
was sneaking towards the far blue line and Lenny we
got the puck in the corner, try to hit him.
The batteries recovered for that. Intercepted the stretch pass looking for.
Speaker 2 (01:32:55):
The breakaway they saw up to the left of Daniel Hauser.
Browsers made seven stops so far tonight. Badger's no icing.
They sent it all the way down to the Lindenwood zone.
Boterril husting, hustling, that is to wash out the icing.
Dubinski holds left point left wing tulk. He looks across
sauce pass caught by Hensler, hit the brakes, came back
(01:33:17):
on his backhand, ran into traffic, hands off Dubinsky to
the right dot back side wide open was Wisconsin's talk.
He tried a one timer and shanked it, fell to
his knees. Here's Elias a one high and sweet pass
up ahead. Now sav Wall with it walks in backside
left in tenant for Elias that was on his backhand,
didn't catch it in transition. Wisconsin's Tulk had it knocked
(01:33:38):
off his stick by Seed. Tries to follow it up
and Seed rubbed them off the puck. And here comes
Lindenwood to our right. Schmdlin will dump it in. It
bounces toward the Badger's cage and howser. We'll sweep it
around now to Falan breakout past his Zell and off
one hand pass ahead of Montgomery, cut off by Mortensen
at the Lindenwood blue line. Kuzma's got it his pass
(01:33:59):
to the middle of the ice and Fontaine deflected twice.
Montgomery goes to get for the Badgers. One nothing, Wisconsin
fourteen to ten left in the second.
Speaker 8 (01:34:07):
We'll up it down here for both teams.
Speaker 2 (01:34:09):
Here's Osburn now on the attack two on three, takes
it low left. Osburn tried to center good defense, that
time by yakic Oh. Osburn still with it off the
right wing corner wall took it to the net, stop
by the goaltender and then following up with Sillanoff and
Knapp stopped him from point blank range and gets a
face off one nothing Wisconsin, thirteen fifty four left in
(01:34:30):
the second.
Speaker 8 (01:34:31):
Ice to play.
Speaker 7 (01:34:31):
Osborn around the net, got the puck, try to wrap
around it, stuck with it, got another chance off. The
puck bounced out to zillan Off, who gets a shot off. Also,
Osborne looked like he was kind of just spinning around
looking for a loose puck after his first shot. I'm
not sure he knew where it went, but the USHL
defenseman of the year right around the net trying to
put the puck in the net.
Speaker 2 (01:34:52):
Eleven goals, forty three points in fifty eight games for
Osbourn last year at Youngstown. The Buffalo Sabers fourth round
pick in twenty twenty four, Osburn agreed to play two
years of juniors before Mike Hastings, Todd Connott, Nick Oliver,
and Kevin Murdoch brought him on board, and it helped
the young man as Osburn's just an eighteen year old
(01:35:18):
nineteen years old actually nineteen. He turned September ninth of
this year. Whistling to stop at Jim play thirteen thirty
one to go wiscon to bigger partner Lyndon Wood was offside.
Speaker 7 (01:35:31):
The Osburn set the Youngstown franchise record and goals as
a fair defenseman too so offensive player, obviously showing around
the net.
Speaker 8 (01:35:40):
There's been he's been.
Speaker 7 (01:35:42):
A guy that's stood out badish scrimmage, bad justs practice.
Speaker 8 (01:35:45):
He's a got to look forward to all year.
Speaker 2 (01:35:48):
He got another year. He really does. Smooth left handed defenseman,
and he can stop and then start very very quickly,
very good on his feet. Win the face off Dexheimer
d to d shoals up to center, pass didn't get
through to Finley. Good play by Ethan Alias, the softmore
defenseman from Maple Grove, Minnesota. Dex Sheimer backhands back out
(01:36:11):
to center Finley can't reach, and quickly after it Elias again.
Elias actually started his collegiate career at Saint Thomas last
year five assists in twenty nine games. The former Madison
Capitals captain and now whistleing off Banker park icing colt
On Lyndenwood again twelve seven shots on gold and favor Wisconsin.
(01:36:32):
They say on the scoreboard that each team has one
shot on goal in this period, but as we look
at the side arms stats monitor, Lyndenwood only has one
shot this period. The Badgers have three so far. Not
a lot of time and space out of the ice
for either team. Right now, Barci to take the face
(01:36:54):
off to the rights of the goaltender Nap the former
md Bulldoff Finley reached for it, didn't touch it. Morrisey
knocked down back on his skates. He wins the face off. Actually,
Polanachuck shoots one that was kicked aside off the right
foot of the defenseman Seed. Game three to Fitzgerald hands
off Polata Chuck go line left, tried to carry it
to the net Backhan shot right past the far side post.
(01:37:17):
Now Hensler holding and then coughed it up trying to
hold on against ty Hipkin. Hipkin went down. Hensler may
have gotten away with a holding pedal as he turned
it over. Now Hipkin gets it back and his shot
actually hit his teammate right in the leg, Oliver Ood,
Olivier Oud and now back out to center ice. And
Morna has it. He got tripped by Fitzgerald and for
(01:37:38):
the second time tonight, Vinzi's gonna get the gate. This
hit seven thirty three linden Wood with a power play
coming up in a chance.
Speaker 8 (01:37:46):
To tell yeah.
Speaker 7 (01:37:47):
Just shortly before that, we saw Hensler lose the puck
at the blue line. He got a hands a little
bit on the Lindywood player just enough to kind of
stop him. Fell Over lost his breakaway chance this one,
and the neutral zone caught him with the leg and
figure after the first one that they didn't call they
were gonna give him one one out of two and
(01:38:08):
later when goes on the penalty kill or out of
the power play. Badger Pinalley kill was outstanding the last time.
We'll see if we can keep it up.
Speaker 2 (01:38:15):
Good last year at eighty two percent, let the big
ten in penalty kill a year ago. Obviously, Owen lin
Mark has departed, one of the better penalty killers the
Badgers have had in recent memory. But Jack Korback is back.
He's team now with Gavin Morrissey. We'll also see Quinn finleyon.
It would be Christian Fitzgerald as the second pair of
(01:38:36):
forwards on the PK. But Fitzgerald's in the box, so
it may be Grady deering. It could be the Sealy
zilling off. We'll see Badger's battling for the puck of
the defensive zone instead, lynnon Woods got it. We'll throw
it down to the left corner. After it there, Schmdlin
got knocked down. Back on his skate, Southgate ran into
Wisconsin's Falen. He shoves him back puck below the goal line.
(01:39:00):
Faling able to jam it free, but put at the
stick of Schmedlin. Out to Seed. Now left point to
Schmeddlin back to Seed right wing. Now more No wanted
to go back door, didn't connect Schmedlin again with it.
Hash Mark's left sauce across right wing hopped over the
stick of Moreno, chased down though by Seed. Lindenwood on
a power play down one nothing, eleven forty to go
(01:39:20):
in the second More now with it again. A little
left hander flips a past the Seed straight away more
No one timer. Oh did it hit the crossboard bar?
That thing ricocheted around and over to the far side wall.
No indication for the referee. May have gone up and
over the cage and then hit a stanchion or the shelf.
(01:39:40):
The way it bounced around it looked like it either
drew iron or maybe hit the edge of the dasher
on the boards that was and from the angle we have,
it's a long ways away. Badger's able to clear. Still
have forty seconds to kill off on the his Gerald
penalty and now they cough it up the blue line.
(01:40:01):
Savoa couldn't handle it from the Badgers get it back
deep into the lion zone. A lot of trucks, stick candling,
deering was offside. Had a whistle blow stopping play with
twenty eight seconds left on the PK one nothing Wisconsin.
Speaker 7 (01:40:14):
An example why after one sample of a penalty kill
you can't make a judgment on a season lady who
had got the possession of the pocket. They moved the
pucker around really well on that minute stretch, more than
a minute stretcher on the Badgers got a great shot
off tempt off and Padris finally got the puck out.
Now there's put pressure back on in the neutral zone.
Speaker 2 (01:40:36):
Lynnon would a year ago less than eleven percent on
the power play out of sixty four Division One teams.
This season ago, Linden would have the worst power play
in the country, but they have sixteen new players out
of the twenty seven on the roster. Steal By Deering
on the PK little flip backhand low slot. His intended
receiver Finley, though was being tied up, had no chance
(01:40:57):
to reach it when Finley's been quiet. Tonight has yet
to get a shot on goal. He had a two
to on one earlier this evening and elected to shoot
rather than pass and miss. Than that centering pass to
the cutting Fontaine right through the wickets and Fitzgerald out
of the box. Badgers get the job done on the
PK Christin in the far corner of the offensive zone.
(01:41:18):
Tulk centering pass intercepted by Yakish, taken back by Botterrel.
He's tied up on the slot. Delaney's got it. Bottlerel
battles back from behind ood It takes it away from Bottrel.
He's hog tied by Scholes, who took a cross check
for the lower back. Badger's on side. Tassy with it
left wing, turns away from pressure Shoals one time shot
blocked by Delaney, back to Shoals, backhander lifted knocked down

We're sitting at the rail Transport broadcast table rail Transport
for every mile of your driving career, Wisconsin. With a
one nothing lead on Linden Wood hearing the season opener,
nine forty one to go in period number two, the
line of Montgomery, Zilanoff and kuching it on the ice
(01:43:35):
and Linden would won the draw in Yackish with a
one timer from the blue line and stop by Ouser,
who hasn't seen much rubber here. In the second period
only the second shot on goalie's faced, Montgomery pulls the
puck off the fire side wall stick, candling and shooting
low Rightney raised it too high, Dalen and osburn out
(01:43:56):
there defensively for Wisconsin. Dalen zil and off middle of
the ice, osburn off to his left red line. He'll
dump it in, whips it around the shelf far side,
and linden Wood got there first and back handed it
back Wisconsin's way and plata Chuck has to get after it.
Chased down by Tyler Luckman, the sophomore from Saint Louis,
(01:44:18):
but still free and the Badger's osburn after it hits
the brakes, avoids a hit from Southgate, ran into a
man more no centering pass intercepted by Finley. Referee goes down.
He appears to be okay. Finley will whip it in
right corner to left. Pallata Chuck down the board's centering
pass right to a lion and out to center ice
(01:44:38):
and then Morrissey shoveled it back deep, but he was
at center ice at the layed offside now washed out
as Wisconsin has touched up. Southgate skates by Finley at
center carries to the corner. Penzler then ran into a
man behind the Badger net houser protecting the near post.
Now as he slides to his left, shot by delay,
(01:45:00):
meat block taken by Pallata Chuck. No look past intended
for Finley, long ship for him didn't get to him.
Good work by Henzler, doubt muscle a man and get
the puck deep into the linden Wood zone. With eight
minutes to go in the second tex Sheimer good hustle
to hold his zone to then strip from behind lead
feed more no harder than net. Here's Linden would with
a chance that slipped up over the top by Jingle
(01:45:23):
or see now to Finley wins still out there. He'll
skate up the center and he didn't gain in the
red line. He'll try to put it on goal and
does it bounces right to the netminder net Finley heads
to the bench for a chain. Lady Deering rubbing up
Schmdlin near the Badger bench in a whistle as the
puck is played off the ice surface in a face
(01:45:46):
off to come and neutralize one nothing Badgers.
Speaker 7 (01:45:51):
Pretty good chance every Lyndon went kind of off the ice.
The guy cutting to the net says, centering pass the
Badger on his back just enough, I think to break
up a play and prevent a really a breakaway scoring
chance on the on the rush.
Speaker 2 (01:46:09):
Hunter jingled the defenseman actually the defensive player of the
year and the bhly you would go with the Sherwood
park at fifty four points in fifty four games, and
he had a good look that time, but the Badgers
denied him. And now the puck deflex into the Wisconsin
z own. Houser will rip it around the grass of
the glass of the near side, Daring after it now
(01:46:33):
reverses to dubinsky I head. He goes to Wisconsins Fitzgerald
he fell down but got the puck back. Now during
center he passes loosen the blue paint Rikor shaped back
low left, Dering trying to go upstairs. Blocker save made
by nap Dy. Deering back hands a pass to the
blue line. Dubinsky snaps it off to Osbourne. D to
d who will send it around to the right corner.
(01:46:55):
Deering with his big body against ce. Dubinski bowl a
man over out to the blue line. Osbourne with it.
What's he gonna do? Osburn stick handling spins it around
now back to the right corner Dubinski there. The defenseman
tried to play it out to Fitzgerald and coughed it
up Linnenwood's ood has it hilt up it in Lions
needed change one nothing Wisconsin six point thirty five left
(01:47:17):
in the second long stretch pass ahead. Tulk had it
on his stick beat it away. He chased it down
right wing, tried to send it to the corner, instead
tied up loose puck at the linenwood blue line, taken
away by the lions. One range shot deflected in front
of the badger's cage wide. Tulk's got it now with
Tassie trailer deck Sheimer. Tulk's pass deflected high end of
(01:47:39):
the air, gathered back by Tulk. Low white Tassie looking
now shooting lane. Now he shoots hit the side of
the nets. Badgers hold his own shoals right point. He
walks the line, his shot plucked in front by a
lackman and then played out to center. Knocked down. Good
hand eye coordination by Tulk to prevent the potential two
(01:48:00):
on one. The other way, it's up, knocked to one
knee near the badger bench at the blue line. Tass
He comes in, throws his body around, free the Puckford
Bottrel who sends it in. Badgers get a change. With
five forty left in the second, here comes Mortensen. Now
they'll dump it in and got knocked down by zillan Off.
(01:48:22):
You know you look at Vassily zillan Off, six feet
one ninety three. He's gonna get bigger. Montgomery. We mentioned
they list him at six four two. He might be
twenty pounds under that, but he's gonna get bigger. Grady
Daring six two two o one egent six feet almost
two hundred pounds. This is a large group of freshman forwards.
Speaker 8 (01:48:44):
Some thick, some thin, but they will get there. They'll
play heavy.
Speaker 7 (01:48:49):
This is a good test for them today, as we
mentioned the way they've been taking heads.
Speaker 2 (01:48:53):
Got a lot of freshmen in the lineup. Five forwards,
a defenceman and a gold tender and a whistle and
off st On Linden would Tommy Ainkraut, the strength conditioning
coach for the Badgers, did an excellent job with this
group and had very good things to say about the
club as a whole with its attitude and performance. During
(01:49:15):
summer workouts.
Speaker 7 (01:49:17):
You can see those guys mentioned Oliver talk and those
guys coming off the ice.
Speaker 8 (01:49:22):
They're just so happy, good guys.
Speaker 7 (01:49:26):
They're just very polite, like it's the people that they
are so far oppressive are. They're good on the ice,
but that's almost as much as important as it is on.
Speaker 2 (01:49:37):
Gavin Morrissey wins the face off, but then linnen Wood
got the pop and from long range the defenseman Seed
with the seed on Daniel Hauser, and Hauser and his
crouch made the stop and hung on for another face off.
You notice there that Morrissey and Finley. The right winger
on this line right now is Jack Horback. It's not
Christian Fitzgerald who's taking a couple of penalties here.
Speaker 7 (01:49:59):
Tonight does have the goal for Wisconsin. Also he does. Yes,
he's been on the score sheet. Yes, I has plenty.
Speaker 32 (01:50:05):
Yes.
Speaker 2 (01:50:06):
Porback three goals nine points as a junior a year ago,
has six goals fourteen points as a sophomore. His performance
during preseason practice, he's been really really good shooting the
puck well his senior campaign. If he can bring this
team the energy he does always, but then supply some
(01:50:27):
offensive punch. Oh, here's a shocked by Wisconsin Osburn right wing,
sticked aside by the goaltender. Finley sweeps it around far board,
Seed after it Orbach puts a shoulder into him, but
chopped out to center by Silky Badgers. Take the puck back.
Finley just got hammered by Savoir and then Finley chopped
(01:50:48):
at his shins, got away with a pedalty. Finley took
the puck away and set it in. They've let a
few things go here tonight, and now the puck popped
into the air end of the Badger bench stopping played
four fourteen here in the second one nothing wisconsinle you
helped sports Medicine, the healthcare team for the Badgers and
proud partner of UW Athletics.
Speaker 7 (01:51:08):
Taking a couple of guys here to the box. Looks
like Osburn and I think that's Savoi.
Speaker 2 (01:51:15):
Said WOI yeah, nice Saiblah.
Speaker 7 (01:51:18):
He's been one of the guys that definitely has mixed
it up a little bit. Osburn looking like a veteran
here in the second period. It's been joining the ross
that Badger do. Have been a trailer on a few
two on twos. Osburn's been one of those guys who've
seen Ben Dexheimer doing that by just trying to get
a little more offense from their defenseman.
Speaker 2 (01:51:38):
This year, Badgery defenseman only scored nine goals a season ago.
Penchler had too twelve points, dex Sheimer won goal seventeen points.
Sax Schulz lift the lamp twice. He had eleven points.
Alata Chuk just one goal four points, only played twenty
five games because of injuries. Badgers win the neutralized face off.
(01:52:03):
We're skating four on four for the next two minutes.
After the matching miners two Wisconsin's Osbourne and the Lindenwoods Savoir. Fitzgerald,
being hounded by Ood, comes out of his own zone
with plenty of speed, right wing, try to cut around
the defenseman low right, centering past off of skate, deflect
into the corner. Telp can't reach it. Taken by ty Hipkin.
(01:52:24):
Hipkin pass ahead to the red line, gathered by Ood,
slides it off. Now yaksh hit shot kick saint mate
by Houser. Quick reaction by Hawser. Nice stop, Yeah, that's that.
Speaker 7 (01:52:35):
Right leg came out of nowhere, knocked it in the
rebounding right out front of the Badger.
Speaker 2 (01:52:40):
Long lead feet intended for Hipken hopped over his stick
and they'll call icing on the Lindenwood Lions. Three point
fifty seven ago in the second, still one nothing, Wisconsin
Christian Fitzgerald a power play goal at nine to twenty
seven of the first. That's all we've seen so far.
We have seen a few former Badgers here though mentioned
(01:53:00):
John Rammage We saw him last night at dinner. Tim Davison,
Aiden Cavalini downstairs and Alex Spriggsby Cavalini with their daughter near.
Speaker 8 (01:53:10):
Tonight taking Selfie's in the crowd right now.
Speaker 2 (01:53:13):
All live in the Saint Louis area. Cavalini's have a
couple of kids. Aiden's holding on to the youngster. Here's
a blast by Dubinski off the draw, miss the net Wisconsin,
deering with it left wing stick handling patiently out to
the blue line right side. Dubinski hit the brakes and
curled back to his left, passed t to d pull
(01:53:33):
outa chuck, immediately pressured by Hipkins, so Joe will dump
it deep deering with a little head and shoulder. Fake
freed himself to pass out to Dubinski. He stutters steps
and sends it back to the corner and botterrel one
fifteen to go in the four on four in the
puck come sliding out to center and Dubinsky goes to
get it. Aiden Dubinski one hundred two games played in
(01:53:54):
three years at Minnesota Duluth. Good to have him on
this squad, deering hard the Natty scores Oh Grady Dearing
Kane left wing wall feared to is right and got
around the goaltender and tucked it behind him. Grady Dearing
his first goal is a badger itch to nothing.
Speaker 7 (01:54:15):
Put a play there, got just slow developing. He just
put his shoulder down though, used this size, got around
the d he saw earlier. I think it was Joe
Palanachuk kind of make a similar move and he his
shot went why this one? Deering with the right stick
wrapped it right around the goaltenders left pad, ring around
the goal there for Grady Deering. The Batgers take a
(01:54:37):
two nothing lead here. There hasn't been much offense here
this period, and Deering does it himself.
Speaker 2 (01:54:42):
During twenty goals. A year ago with Waterloo made the
Clark Cup finals. He buries his first year tonight at
seventeen to twelve Dearing. It looks to be on assisted
a too nothing Wisconsin advantage. Morrisey with speed low Wright
cuts in that can't shot off the goaltender, then the
defenseman back to the kneeling netminer who covers with two
(01:55:04):
twenty eight to go in the period. Grady Dearing goodness,
I mean he's a large young man product of the
Chicago Mission. Des Moines Iowa. Where's number seventeen. He's easy
to see because he's a big young lad.
Speaker 7 (01:55:25):
He's been pretty smart hockey from him tonight seeing him
pick a couple of plays off reading plays and this
one just a kind of a nifty move. It looked
like again nothing was really happening, and then all of
a sudden, the puck's in the net forty.
Speaker 2 (01:55:39):
One seconds left of the matching miners to Osbourne and Savoir.
Referees over to the scorer's table to get some sort
of clarification or to maybe just the time on the clock.
Not sure here to be ready to go or not,
(01:55:59):
you know. The linesman Vaughan Upden speaking with Referendi Bethman.
How Bethman goes to talk with Lynnenwood's new head coach,
Keith Fisher. Yeah. Keith Fisher spent two different stints with
Mike Hastings staff with the Omaha Lancers from two thousand
(01:56:20):
to two thousand and two. Two years there with Hastings
and actually helped the Lancers win the Clark Cup in
two thousand and one, they were runner up at O two,
and then Fisher moved on for another assistance position. Returned
to Omaha for a year and then joined Guy Gadowski
at Princeton and then eventually at Penn State. So Grady
(01:56:44):
Deering at seventeen twelve, and they will get plata Chuck
and Dubinski assists. So Joe pulata Chuck with a helper
and the first point as a badger for transfer defenseman
Aiden Dubinski. Nothing Wisconsin advantage here, Paul. Two minutes to
go in the third. And we saw last season twice
(01:57:08):
how difficult it was to beat this Lindenwood team and
to get a two goal cushion. Here's a pass in
front chance for Morrissey. Tried to shove it towards the net.
It was deflected, how to Doubinski. His shot redirected, goes
wide and then Morrissey ran into Nap, knocking him backwards
over his knees and a pedalty coming up on Wisconsin's
(01:57:29):
Morrissey for interfering with a goaltender. Now Nap out of
his net. Lindenwood adds an extra attacker and on the
attack comes Savoir out to the point. Seed wants it
shots one low, nice say it made by Howser. It
was free. Howser lost his stick but a whistle blew
as the buck carr him to the far wall where
(01:57:50):
the Badger's possessed.
Speaker 8 (01:57:53):
That's a big goalf for Wisconsin to get that two
goal lead.
Speaker 7 (01:57:55):
Yes, there hasn't been much either team, but take a
penalty shortly after that not ideal for Wisconsin obviously.
Speaker 8 (01:58:05):
Kevin Barrissey just surround the net.
Speaker 7 (01:58:08):
Goal Tenner just kind of bent backwards and kind of
seemed like he got stuck in that position for a while.
Speaker 2 (01:58:13):
Yeah.
Speaker 8 (01:58:14):
But then strangely, when Linnen.
Speaker 7 (01:58:17):
Wood waiting for the goalie get pulled, the couple of
guys that's sitting out up on the boards, one jumped
on the other one continue to sit there with his
legs on the ice side.
Speaker 8 (01:58:25):
I don't think I've seen that before.
Speaker 7 (01:58:26):
Good fifteen to twenty seconds just watching the game from
the top of the boards.
Speaker 2 (01:58:31):
Good seat. More seed for goalie interference at eighteen thirty six.
Fourth power play of the night for lynnon Wood, Finley
and Fitzgerald on the p K in a setup. Oh goodness,
Southgate with a one timer from the Slotti hit the
crossbarn and ricking Shane out of play.
Speaker 7 (01:58:49):
That was a purpose on that pass play by Linnen
wood shot top of the circle.
Speaker 2 (01:58:56):
What a setup. That was a great plays, a really
nice play. Southgate will work off the left wing wall.
He moved from there to the slot last time or no.
Unable to win the draw this time. But Southgate pulls
it free stick handling down the wall comes Schmedlin, the
left hander behind the nets. Didn't hit his intended target.
The puck came free and Finley able to backhanded all
(01:59:19):
the way down. With a minute to go on the period,
Finley will go to the bench. Fitzgerald remains on the PK.
Horback will join him. Now Christian goes to the badger's bench.
Indeering will join Horbach on this PK with Falen and
Shoals Schmdlin left wing, it's Southgate drops back to Seed
refeeds Southgate redirect flucked down by Flan behind the net.
(01:59:40):
He got it the shoals he'll rim it around and out.
Two good plays by Felan on that instance. Now here's
Seed again. Five eleven junior from Newborough, Ontario, played for
Carlton and Canadian Collegiate Hockey a year ago. Several of
(02:00:04):
the players here for Keith Fisher squad played in U Sports,
much like Major junior hockey. Those players are now eligible
to play NCAA hockey shot by savoip blocked loose puck
guiding played by Hornbock, preventing more No from getting the
biscuit on the right wing as the orton sounds. So
(02:00:25):
the Badgers still have thirty six seconds to kill off
on the Borissey pedale, but they get the job done
so far on the pk here three for three, maybe
four for four, depending on how that final a half
minute goes. When the third period begins, Badgers get one
in the second freshman Grady Dearing from Joe Polana, Chuck
and Aiden Dubinski at seventeen to twelve, and after two
(02:00:48):
periods of play, the Badgers lead Lindenwood two to nothing.

Sitting at the rail Transport broadcast table inside the Senteen
Community Center in Maryland Heights, Missouri. After two periods, Wisconsin
leads the season opener to nothing over Lyndon Wood again,
Brady Deering his first goal as a Badger. It's seventeen
to twelve of the second period from Joe Polata, Chuck
and Aiden Dubinski. That followed Christian Fitzgerald's power play goal
(02:02:35):
halfway through the first period, with Hensler and Tulk getting helpers.
Shots on goal of that period eleven seven in favor
of Wisconsin. Clayton Knapp ten saves in that period, as
he made in the first period, so he stopped twenty
of twenty two shots so far and Daniel Hauser seven
saves in the second. Through two periods, he stopped all
(02:02:58):
thirteen shots he's faced. And one thing I've noticed about
Hawser he is good post to post and he's really
good down low, very very quick on his feet.
Speaker 7 (02:03:07):
Yeah, I mean, you look at his numbers, he's five
to eleven he so far. It seems like when you
watch him he likes to play down in the butterfly
gets down low. But and then you've seen a couple
of flashes of why he's been so good. I think
you see is how quick his legs are you talking
post to post, even just kicking his feet out, He's
super quick. Legs there five again, five to eleven. Small,
but he's he moves.
Speaker 2 (02:03:29):
Yeah, he certainly moves. Yeah. Houser in the Western Hockey
League four plus years, won one hundred and twenty three games,
the most wins in WHL history. He finished his career
with a two fifty eight goals against him a ten
save percentage. He was a three time All Star in
the Western Hockey League. Last year, when Calgary won twenty
games at a ninety one goals against a nine to
(02:03:51):
twenty six save percentage, he was a Goalie of the
Year finalist. He had five shutouts in Calgary last year,
and four in a row. He won a stretch of
over two hundred and eighty minutes without allowing a goal
in that league, and that league is known for its
goal scoring.
Speaker 7 (02:04:06):
Yeah, that's that's back in the day, Brian Elliott had
that incredible stretch. He set the program record for Wisconsin.
It was one of those times where just nothing's going

the second and third period's Michael Hage two goals and
two helpers for the Wolverines, who start the season on
a winning note. Meanwhile, Minnesota much different looking Gopher squad.
They lost Jimmy Snuggerud and Oliver Moore and Sam Rentel
and a lot of highly talented players. Well. Minnesota at

a new coach and Bill mccult who coached here at
Lindenwood last year and then mccault left for Hoton and
now Keith Fisher is the head coach here after leaving
Penn State after thirteen seasons, and Penn State opens its
regular season tonight on the road at Arizona State. That

game starts at nine o'clock and it will be televised
on the NHL Network. Western Michigan won the National championship

Pole Boston University second in the preseason full, followed by
Michigan State, Denver, Penn State fifth, Boston College, Maine, Minnesota eighth,

Providence Connecticut, North Dakota eleventh, Michigan twelfth, Quinnipiac thirteenth, and
Arizona State Massachusetts, Ohio State ranked sixteenth, Cornell, Minnesota State
eighteenth in the preseason poll, Saint Thomas nineteenth, Wisconsin twentieth,
six of the seven Big Ten teams in the preseason Top.
Speaker 8 (02:09:35):
Twenty, and Notre Dame receiving votes.
Speaker 7 (02:09:38):
Also Yep, yeah, I mean again off the crazy offseason
with the Canadian Hockey League players eligible, we saw some
credible or highly drafted in big names more than normal.
There's always there's always been first round picks and big
names in college hockey, but there's a little bit more
with the all the Canadian Hockey League players coming in
(02:09:58):
and a large portion of them to the Big Ten
for sure.
Speaker 2 (02:10:01):
Yeah, the recruiting landscape in college hockey has changed drastically
with the NCAA allowing those major junior players to be eligible.
But now we also see that there are professional players
that have been made eligible by the NCAA. But Midgie
State signed two players to play for them, even though
one played fifty some odd games or close to fifty
(02:10:22):
games in the East Coast Hockey League and also played
one or two games in the American Hockey League, which
is only a step away from the NHL. I think
Quinnipiac was a Quinnipiac also added a pro player.
Speaker 8 (02:10:32):
In Arizona State to San Arizona State.
Speaker 2 (02:10:34):
Yep, yet, so it's I mean, yeah, walk into a
rink and you're recruitable.
Speaker 8 (02:10:41):
Right, Yes, there is. There are some limits.
Speaker 7 (02:10:43):
There's I don't remember the language off the top of
my head about how much professional that they are a
certain amount of money and it's having a number.
Speaker 2 (02:10:51):
It's for a.
Speaker 8 (02:10:55):
Generic's not the right worry.
Speaker 7 (02:10:56):
But it's a wide open word usage about like not
basically not making too much money being something where you're
playing in the East Coast Hockey League, depending on your contract,
you're not You're making enough to live on, but you're
not making millions like an NHL player. So that that
whatever that limit is, the house are still in there.
Speaker 2 (02:11:15):
Yeah exactly, Yeah, yeah, no, it's it's it's odd and
then the coaches are learning new things every single day.

to drop the put for the third period.
Speaker 2 (02:16:08):
Badgers lead to nothing but shorthanded for thirty six seconds
to start this third period, when Finley, Christian Fitzgerald, Joe
polatachuck Aiden Dubinski on the ice for the PK with
Daniel Hauser getting ready in goal, he just slid from
left to right, moving some ice and snow out of
his crease area, and then he hopped up about a
(02:16:29):
foot off the ice, planted it again, backed into the
Gold post. He's ready to go. Badgers get to the
puck offensively shorthanded. Finley stepped to the right of the
Gold center and backhanded one high over the cage and
Lindenwood will pick up the puck in its own zone
and skate ahead more no backhand past. Schmdland stepped one
off quickly to Mercy A but he couldn't handle that feed.
(02:16:51):
It's knocked back out to center. Ten seconds left to
the Badgers penalty kill and Morrissey anxious to get out
of the box at center, schmeddl and walks around. Finley
comes across, shoots one high, may have gone off the
stick of Dubinski. Out of the box comes Morrisy Wisconsin.
Four for four on the penalty kill Steel though Southgate
shot block by pull out of Chuck. Good play by
(02:17:11):
Dubinski to just turn to slow the hard charging four
check of Southgate won the puck free played out to
the blue line. Not clear second chance for the Badgers.
They get the job done, although lynnon Wood will set
it right back in a minute into the third, it's
two nothing Wisconsin. They had the advantage in shots on
goal after forty minutes twenty two to thirteen. Dross the line. Mortenson,
(02:17:34):
the defenseman, shot block bouncing puck slot Fontaine swung and missed.
He was ten feet away, right between the circles and
couldn't get a stick on the bouncing puck.
Speaker 7 (02:17:43):
Four went Linnywood players on the rush right at the dots.
Speaker 2 (02:17:46):
On that last play, go's out to the point, Mortin' says,
shot blocked by Tass. He tried to scoop it ahead.
Eventually turns around to his right, banked it ahead. Bottrel
chased it down across the line, back pedaling into the
offensive zone. Ryan Bottrel slowed on the Newark wall, tied
up for a moment, still loose. He comes out of
there with it. Botterl stick handling is shot blocked. Badger
(02:18:07):
goes down from behind deck Ceimer, no pedalty. Here comes
Yakishaw the attack. Yakis dropped pak Kuzma in and out
of the club. A Houser made the stuff, then covered
big Colish and afterwards his shoals hammered Fontane to the ice,
protecting his goaltender. Are they gonna take shoals for interference
or roughing? Apparently so? Are they gonna take Kukan in
(02:18:29):
not shoals cross checking on kuchin in And so the
Badger's shorthanded for a fifth time, playing with fire down
up to nothing early on third period, and Lennon.
Speaker 7 (02:18:41):
Went pressing here early in the third to try to
get back in this game. Pretty big hit for the goaltender.
House they're there by Kukan and just kind of trying
to protect that blue space.
Speaker 8 (02:18:52):
A little bit of leverage. A high hit.
Speaker 7 (02:18:54):
Feet went out flying and went down hard and uh
Padger's finished off a pelly kill, and they're going right
back on one.
Speaker 2 (02:19:01):
Yep kuchen and cross checking at one forty eight Morrissey
orback flan out there long range shut by Elias. After
the face off, Win may have been knocked aside with
the blocker of the gold tender Hauser shot right wing
and Hawser square two of that shot, sliding right to
left made the stop and hung on.
Speaker 8 (02:19:24):
Like blocker.
Speaker 7 (02:19:24):
It looked like he squeezed it between his blocker arm
and his body right to left and position long enough
for the one tier to make the stop. The batter's
again when they've gotten the puck out. The penalty kill
has been easy. That's when Lennon Wood wins these offensive
his own face offs is when they've been setting up.
If they don't win the face off, the batters kill
(02:19:45):
extended periods of time.
Speaker 2 (02:19:46):
Face offs even tonight eighteen apiece Fitzgerald to take the
draw against Hood and Christian want it back to shoals
thends off the four checker and then gets help from
Balen who hammers it over the head of the free
and off the glass and all the way down. Two
fifteen into the third period, Wisconsin leads to nothing goals
(02:20:07):
from Fitzgerald and deering lead feed by Lindenwood's Elias. Badgers
eventually win it free. Pulata Chuck clears Finley in on
the fore check ahead of two Lindenwood players, but the
goaltender comes out of his net to rim it around
and that allows the Lions to possess and Findley heads
to the bench, replaced by Horback. On this PK won
twelve left in the Lindenwood power play, Montana crossed the line,
(02:20:31):
tried to drop it back in, Raizler with it. Raisler
to the point, Elias hears food stepping in, throws it back.
Savois shot far side, blocked by Pulta Chuck. He carries
it ahead three on two short handed Hornback with Morrisey
on his right left wing Polata Chuck looking saus in front.
Oh Hornback chopped at it, may have gotten a piece
of it stop by Nap, and now Lindenwood clears ahead
(02:20:52):
ood slowed by Falen, who pitchforked it back deep. Good
play by him. Badgers get a change on the PK
leading to nothing. A little over three minutes gone by
here in the third.
Speaker 7 (02:21:03):
And Nap actually did a little bit of a Badger
favor there. On the rush up the ice batterers had
three people deep. He covered up the puck kind of
waiting for the whistle. The batterers weren't really in good
defensive position or more.
Speaker 2 (02:21:13):
No, given go that time with Schmedling Schmeddlin couldn't get
a stick down. Howser did, though he had to. That
puck went to the crease and Howser sticked it aside.
Now passed by Southgate, pressured by Finley, forces linden Wood
to come out of its own zone. Ten seconds left
on the Lion's power play. Badger's up to nothing. Here's
more No now steps across and then coughed it up.
(02:21:34):
Finley reaching for it, can't clear it's batted off his
stick to shoals and he'll set it down just as
Kuchenin's pedalley time expires. Wisconsin five for five on the
pedaling two.
Speaker 8 (02:21:44):
Yep.
Speaker 2 (02:21:45):
Again.
Speaker 7 (02:21:45):
They got the puck out after a face off and
then pretty much did a great job making Linen word
Linen would work. Can't having trouble get in their zone,
just like I'm having trouble talking.
Speaker 2 (02:21:57):
Osburn. He Wisconsin peels back to his left hits the Brakes.
Thought about going D to D to dex Sheimer instead
waddles his way up the far side wall, deering meted
center by Kuzma. Grady able to dump it in and
now they'll try to bank it out of the zone.
It's loose out near the Linden with blue line gobbled
up now by Delaney on the charge. Evans the extra
(02:22:20):
skater to and I try to force a shot through
Dezheimer blocked the Badgers. Get it back dex Sheimer led
the Badgers and block shots a year ago. Block that
one there. Here's Osburne across the line right wing looking
Tassi Hada stick lifted in the slot by Kuzma. Chased
it down far corner with help of Montgomery spinning move
left wing, his shot partially blocked. Nifty skating move by
Blake Montgomery.
Speaker 7 (02:22:41):
He made a great move, backed himself into an open
spot to the dot to the right of the goaltender.
Speaker 8 (02:22:47):
I think he lost control of it a little bit.
Speaker 2 (02:22:51):
Now the puck to the left of the goldtender Napp
helects to cover a little pushing and shoving. Afterwards, butt
a stoppage and play. Five minutes gone. By here in
the third Wisconsin with a two nothing lead on linden
Wood Hey Cleary Building Corp. Built with pride before the
shamrock is applied. Explore clearibuilding dot com today face off
(02:23:16):
to the left of Nap, zilling Off out with Kuchenen,
E John, Pensler and Paladacha My Castings and his staff
have shuffled things up a little bit, moving forward lines,
deep hairs as well. A lot of that has to
do with the fact Wisconsin's been on the PK five
times and there have been two four on four situations
(02:23:38):
centering past intended for E John just out of his reach.
He was closing in on the net now Zillanoff hands
off to John, had his stick lifted at the last
moment by sea Badgers get it back and Hensler with
a long range shot glubbed by the kneeling Nap and
he hangs on. Fourteen thirty eight left in the third,
too nothing Wisconsin. We paused ten seconds for station identification,
(02:23:58):
ten seconds for I legal eed you're listening to Wisconsin
Badger Hockey Brian Posak, Paul capel Bianco here in Missouri,
Ian Perrin listening at home, Hi Ian he'll be joining
(02:24:20):
us on home broadcasts again this season. Badgers. When the
draw Newbinski shot scooped up by the goaltender Nap. Another
face off coming up. No, Bill Howard's probably listening somewhere
on this planet. And Egan ahearn Degan, thanks for all
you do. And Bob look too, public address announcer at

the Cole Center. All listening in tonight, get to.
Speaker 7 (02:24:48):
See all a lot of those people next weekend yep
our next Thursday.
Speaker 8 (02:24:51):
I should say buck.
Speaker 2 (02:24:52):
Near the front of the Badger's net, but lenden Wood,
mishandles Bottrell with its to candles to the center circle
and then had it knocked off his dick. Osburn tried
to possess able to tap it ahead the botterrel. He
gets around Yakkish for himself, lifts a pass, hoping to
hit himself or maybe deflect it towards the net, and
then gobbled up by Napp. He covers Tassi went head
(02:25:14):
over heels after the whistle, and now he's joining with
one of the lions that looks like South Gates, and
they continue to converse as they head to their respective benches.
Fourteen oh six to go in the third, two to nothing, Wisconsin.
Speaker 7 (02:25:28):
Ryan botterol looking like he's running through a little obstacle
course on that last play, gets pucked past one Linnywood
player one slides over down on the ice, tries to
flip it up and jump over the player as he's
gone by. As you mentioned, puck going a little too
far onto the goaltender, but uh nifty little play.
Speaker 2 (02:25:48):
Mike Hastings likes the chemistry that Botterrel has with freshman
center Oliver's hold. They've been fair together in the last
two and a half weeks of practice. Bottle rolled four
goals seven points as a freshman last year. He had
a twenty nine goal season with Youngstown in the USAHL
two years ago. He's a year older and a little quicker,
(02:26:09):
a little stronger, a little smarter too. Ryan Bottrel linnen
Wood on the attack, schmeddling after the puck in the
Wisconsin zone, met by Shoals, jam free by Zach Finley,
bump past for himself right wing, chased it down at
the circle, centering past Phalan and it got knocked off
his stick as he went down the middle. Shoals down
blue line. He shoots one low office sticking up and
(02:26:30):
out of play. How about Finley, his speed boy, he
can create not only for his teammates but for himself
on the fly and.
Speaker 7 (02:26:39):
A jingle back for Lynnon went on that play got
a sick underneath Quinn Finley's arm and ripped off out
of his hands.
Speaker 8 (02:26:50):
Looked like there's a palty on the play.
Speaker 7 (02:26:52):
Actually, yeah, interference on linden Wood. I think that might
have been on that exact play, pending. I can't tell
who that is yet, going to the.
Speaker 2 (02:27:01):
Is that South Gates? No, it's a savoir your favorite
player six nine savoir interference. Just the third cuni's power
play of the night for the Badgers. Their first two
came in the first period. Christian Fitzgerald scored the power
(02:27:23):
play goal after a savoir penalty. So maybe the Badgers
can do it again. But Tulk looses the face off
and they'll clear all the way down. His power play
unit for Wisconsin, Henzler, Bontnerel, Tulk, Kuchenin, and e John.
Here's Hensler drops it back of the Badger blue line
(02:27:44):
to talk with speed left wing now across the line
Bottrel and he whipped one around the boards, chased down
by E John but he misplayed it or it took
a weird bounce off the kickplate and he's unable to
hold his own. The Badgers will try again. Hensler, Ottawa
Senator's first round draft choice, twenty third overall, just beaming
(02:28:06):
his smile after that selection in June.
Speaker 7 (02:28:10):
On a four Badger Now Senators drafted the Wisconsin sends,
as they have kind.
Speaker 8 (02:28:16):
Of been dubbed.
Speaker 2 (02:28:18):
Here's Henzler left wing. Finley flying low left rose a
shot that Nap fought off in a whistle stopping play.
The goal came up off its moorings. His nap reached
up to stop that Finley shot on the face off
inside the Lindon Wood zone. Twelve thirty seven to go
in the third, one oh six on the Badger's power play,
(02:28:39):
too nothing, Wisconsin.
Speaker 7 (02:28:41):
That's a goalscorer shot right there, coming down the wing.
Even though he's a leftie, coming down the left wing
with a tough angle, still makes the goaltender work a
little bit on that play.
Speaker 2 (02:28:51):
Ten goals for Finley as a freshman twenty a year ago.
First Team All Conference for Quinn Finley. A few fans
here in attendance wearing Finley jerseys. I saw a father
and his son and daughter. All three of them have
Finley jerseys on. They drove in from sun Prairie. Short
trip five hours, let's go. So he brought his two
(02:29:12):
kids and he's sitting right behind the Badger bench. His
kids are running around aimlessly. They were here, Candy, they
were here early. So that explains that. Yes, yes, based
off to the right of Nap, who's done a nice
job for lynden Wood. Here he stopped twenty four twenty
six Badger bids power play continues for Wisconsin. Ben Deckheimer
(02:29:32):
out the captain dex Sheimer will drop it back speed.
Morrissey picks it up through the center circle across the
line on side. Tassi lost the handles taken away. Lindenwood
flings it down. Started well until it got to the
Lindenwood blue line. Now the Badgers will take another crack
at it. Here's dex Sheimer again drops it off. Morrissey
(02:29:53):
flanked by Finley, left Tassie and fitzgerand into traffic and
that's taken away by Ood and clears it down.
Speaker 7 (02:30:02):
It's like there's a speed bump just over the blue
line here for Wisconsin. On this power play is that
a raised blue line.
Speaker 2 (02:30:08):
Here's Dexheimer now got to shove into the glasses. He
dumped it in, jammed back to the corner by a
horn box but no one therefore Wisconsin and Lindenwood sends
it all the way down kneeling was Hauser stopped it
with his stick parallel to the ice, and the Badgers
Pullata Chuck down Power plays over Warbock at the red
line as sav Walk came out of the box, bouncing
(02:30:30):
pucket neutral black by sav wad to the near side
and he sweeps it in Plada. Chuck gives chase, but
Moore no had an angle at the biscuit, centering past
ricochet back to them, back to our pass to the
cutting defenceman Jingle off a stick jingle spelled g E
n G l E and a chance in front right
directed wide on the stick side of Hawser linden Wood
(02:30:54):
playing with some jump and now Montgomery shoves Southgate into
the Badger's bench over the shelf Pullana Chuck tied up
balls on the seat of his pants deep in the
Wisconsin zone, deering there for support. Able to push the
puck to an open Dubinski skates it ahead, misfired on
a headman a horror Bach and icing on Wisconsin. Ten
forty four left and the third two nothing Badgers.
Speaker 7 (02:31:17):
Hell, anyway, got that big kill yeh here right before
half the half way mark of the third period, and
now they're down two nothing. It's that time when you
start pushing trying to get that back in the game.
Speaker 2 (02:31:29):
Here.
Speaker 7 (02:31:30):
So Wisconsin last year came back from two down to
get the second game tied in an overtime, and leny
wit here trying to do the.
Speaker 2 (02:31:36):
Same silky out with Savoi Schmdlin. The defenseman are Mortensen
and Yakish Zolke leans in on Wisconsin centerman Grady Deering.
Deering won the draw. It's lifted out through center ice
and was contact made with a puck yes no icing
one of the Lions touched it. Now the Badgers have
(02:31:57):
possession back in their own zone. Ten and a half
minutes left in regulation to nothing Badgers. Osburg turns on
the Jets cut off as he gained the zone and
dumped it in and then lifted up and out of
play accidentally by Lindenwood in a stoppage of play. Hey
Badger fans choose chill and celebrate Responsibly twenty one means
(02:32:17):
twenty one COR's Light, Choose Chill twenty twenty five Cors
Brewing Company, Golden Colorado, Taulk's out there botterrel and Tassie.
Tulk assisted on Fitzgerald's power play goal in the first
first points as a Badger for Oliver Tulk, the freshman
(02:32:39):
centerman from Gibson's British Columbia, played in Calgary in the
Western Hockey League the last four years. One hundred and
twenty seven goals, two hundred and eighty two points in
two hundred and seventy eight games. He had one hundred
and nine points in seventy six games a year ago,
scored forty two times. He was definitely good for sixth
place in the league point total.
Speaker 7 (02:33:00):
So that's about a fifty point college season if you
do the math, or at least if the same scoring rate.
Speaker 2 (02:33:08):
Tulk shields one on the move high slot stop by
Nap does not give up a rebound. Tulk came around
though far circle, worked down the left ring and then
straight away zipped one. But Nap saw it come and
made this stuff.
Speaker 7 (02:33:23):
That's something to the Badgers, obviously looking for making plays
He's one of those guys that they'll be looking to
make plays. Sees the ice really well. He's been getting
the pucks on the net too, not flowing around too much.
Speaker 2 (02:33:37):
Now linnen Wood and the Badgers will take a break.
A media timeout nine to fifty seven left on the third.
Wisconsin's up soon, nothing stick around. This is Badger Hockey
from Learfield again.
Speaker 33 (02:33:47):

Freshman Vassili killing off to take the draw against Drue
Kuzma in the Lindenwood shell. Vassili wins it back dex
Szeimer moves to his left looking looking steps down low centering, passed,
tried for Ejon Know then picked up by Zilanoff and
he fanned it a shot and now we've got a
whistle and a penalty coming up on linden Wood. Lochman
(02:35:14):
gets called for a hooking. Maybe as Zillenough was trying
to pull the trigger on that slot shot.
Speaker 7 (02:35:20):
Zilanoff was waiting for him just to fire away, and
it took a little bit longer than he expected. I
think it was Linen with stick that slowed that down.
Lochman right in the slot. Who would have been a
great scoring chance. Great A yeah, Padgers, if nothing else,
(02:35:41):
have two minutes here to try to add one more,
a little bit of insurance and run some clock down.
Speaker 2 (02:35:47):
Andrews twenty two percent of the power play a year ago,
went two for thirteen in that season opening series last
year against the Lions, one for three so far and
I'd get another shot as Lochman took a hooking penalty
at ten to Morrissey, Finley, Tassie, Fitzgerald and dex Seimer.
Good battle with Southgate and Tassi for the loose puck.
Eventually the Badgers come away with it right wing. Finley
(02:36:10):
near the hash marks Finley to the point in Dexheimer
snaps off a pass caught by Morrissey, left wing. They'll
exchange places. Morrissey right wing, Finley well away from the net.
He'll move to the middle of the ice, put it
down low off the stick of its Gerald in White
bounces around a little bit nap, can't reach it. Picked
up by Kusman, he'll hammer it down their captain Drew
Kusba on the PK nine fifteen to go in the
(02:36:32):
third two nothing Wisconsin, here comes dex Sheimer drops it
in the middle of the ice. The only person that
can pick it up is Morrissey to the red line.
Badger's on side. No either dex Sheimer or Tassy offside.
As Borisey brought the puck up the ice. Badger Hockey

Speaker 8 (02:36:56):
That's the problem. The last penalty are powerfulay for Wisconsin.
Speaker 7 (02:36:59):
Yeah, trying to get the puck into the zone over
the blue line anyway, doing a great job there, making
it difficult to gain possession for Wisconsin or gain the zone,
I should say.
Speaker 8 (02:37:09):
And they switch out their power play unit here to
try a different group.
Speaker 2 (02:37:12):
Cuno's power play now features Hensler, Bottlerel, Tulk e John
and Kuchenen and Bottlerel ran into two lions and lost
it and that allows linden Wood to clear. It's been
happening a lot here tonight, Badgers trying to stick handle
through traffic with that extra attacker and it hasn't been working.
Here's Hensler now weaving left and right at the wall,
(02:37:33):
sweeps it down deep. First man there, Yakkish for linden
Wood Hammers it around may have gone off, bottling up
and out of play. They had forty one left of
the third, fifty four seconds left on the Wisconsin power
play and a new unit comes out for my Hastings squad.
Speaker 7 (02:37:48):
The other unit with Marssi back out there with an
offensive zone face off, trying to get possession here because
again it hasn't been working getting into the zone.
Speaker 8 (02:37:58):
Really, both teams have had that issue here now.
Speaker 2 (02:38:01):
Morrisey scored his first goal as a Badger against linnen
Wood last season on his way to thirty plus points.
Only the twelfth w freshman dude get to thirty points
or more, maybe the Big ten All Rookie team. He
was a finalist for Rookie of the Year and went
to Michael Hage of Michigan. Lynnon one won the draw
(02:38:22):
and clear. Badgers have the puck deck Seimer. Here comes
Morrissey up the middle. Now he hands off left wing.
Finley taps back Morrisey with speed low left. Finley wants
at slot. He's open morris he can't get him the
puck in a whistle stop at him play and what
happened Tassy in the crease. I think that's what they're saying. Yep,
(02:38:43):
they're going to drop the puck outside of his home.
With eight eighteen to go in the third and thirty
one left on the Badger's power play, you can.
Speaker 8 (02:38:50):
See Wisconsin to that pretty well set up.
Speaker 7 (02:38:52):
I think it was Finley behind coming behind the net,
the Badger in front, and then you could see him
just skating trying to make a pass. That puck just
jumped right up on Finley behind the goal line. Couldn't
make the pass out and it might not have mattered
with badgery increase anyway.
Speaker 2 (02:39:08):
Face off just outside the Lindenwood zone. One of the
linesmen straightening out the Lions cage, and now Napple will
get himself positioned. Kusma's a big man boy six two
eight two eighteen. I guess played for the old Flynn
flown bombers. Who's my leans in on Morrissey won the
(02:39:34):
face off and they cleared off the glass and at
ricocheted on Wisconsin goaltender Daniel Hauser, who thankfully was paying attention.
He'll get credit for a save. Here's Morrisy now the
center circle and muffed the puck and Tassi tries to
follow it up, put it in front off the stick
of Nap and now taking away Kuzma. Fitzgerald in pursuit
(02:39:55):
change made Montgomery cuts him off. Kuzma weak backhand right
wing easily sticks to us by howser. Kuzma picks up
the loose puck. Now here's Brasler, his shot blocked by
Tex Sheimer as Lindon would gets back to full strength.
The Lions have given Wisconsin fits here tonight, just being physical,
staying with the play, hitting after the whistle, hitting when
(02:40:18):
players aren't looking, hitting anything in red and whites. Now
a whistle in a stoppage of play and the face
off coming up here at neutralized seven twenty seven to
go on the third. Are they're going to say a
hand passed? What are they calling here? Because they're they're
going to drop the puck in the Wisconsin zone.
Speaker 19 (02:40:39):
Now.
Speaker 2 (02:40:40):
I didn't see an indication from the referees about what transpired,
but Giovanni Moreno will step in. All rookie team in
U Sports in the Canadian colleges a year ago with
Carlton be the lost the draw. Here's Montgomery, who's part
of a Canadian National Championship squad with the London Knights
(02:41:02):
in the Ontario League last year. Deering, looking chooting, got
through six a made by nap Rady Dearing a team
best five shots on goal. Tonight he scored as well,
set up again this time by Montgomery, and Deering pushed
it wide centering pass off of skate. Dubinski tried to
reach it, could not horback hustled out by the Blue
line to hold his own for a moment, but brought
(02:41:23):
down by Lindenwood. Southgate off to Mercy a K two's
one wide boy. He came in at the slot, had
an angle, but Houser had the angle and let that
one sail pass his glove hand.
Speaker 7 (02:41:36):
Why hey, his teammate took a hit from Jack Horbach
to set up the play.
Speaker 2 (02:41:40):
Yeah, here's Savoir takes it away from Botterl and dumps
it in. He'll chase it down. Lindenwood will change. Six
and a half minutes left. Oh Savoa with a big
hit on Dubinsky, but he released the past to pull
outa chuck. Now weaving up the center's z Illanov had
the puck, lost it now tries to track it down.
He does belo the goal line, looking looking set up.
(02:42:01):
Botterrel couldn't get a clean shot off, knocked off his
stick taken out by the defenseman. Jingle Seed helps him
slides out to the blue Line's ZeLing off trying to
hold his own colding out now Faling goes d to
d to Osburn. Six minutes left in regulation to nothing,
Badgers Goodzgerald and Deering with goals tonight for the cardinal
(02:42:22):
in white. Now here's seed again. Lobbs that pass out
to center, bounces to Wisconsin's osburn feard right back left,
swings it to Falin up the wall, pass caught by
Kuchenan across the line, turns around and falls down, and
linden Wood's got a two on two to our left
hipket charging in slight one in front and Hauser able
(02:42:45):
to stick it to the corner now centering pass as
food had just come off the bench. Couldn't reach that
feed from Schmedlin and the Badger's batted to center in
there's linden wood Is sent it right back in Oliver Tulk,
Now where's the number fifty five? Last Badger to win
fifty We're fifty five. Saint Louis native John Rammage, oh heat.
(02:43:08):
John carried it into the offensive zone behind the net,
got rubbed off by Yakis, who turns on the speed. Tass.
He tries to stay with him as he comes across
the line. He got a stick into his skates. Yakish
fell down. Tass, He's gonna get a two minute minor.
Lennon would with a power play four fifty seven left,
needing a goal to get within a.
Speaker 8 (02:43:26):
Goal in Wisconsin protecting a two goal lead.
Speaker 7 (02:43:31):
Here you talk about Mike hase things and how he
wants the Batterers to play a puck possession game. You've
seen them go over the blue lile at the times
that maybe they dump it in or looking to dump
it in. It's just kills some time they've been trying
to keep possession of the puck. It's costing a couple
of times at turnovers. Guy's falling over Lenny would really
get sticks at the blue line. And that's whyting to
(02:43:53):
transition back the other way forces Wisconsin to take down
and Badger's back on the penalty. Kill again, rinse a
repeat here, win the face off, get it out, or
lose a face off and have to kill on your own.
Speaker 2 (02:44:05):
Tassy for tripping. At fifteen oh three, Horbock, Morrissey, Dubinski
and Polada chuck on the ice, the pucks still loose
in the circle, still battling for it. Murris Morrissey had
an angle on Southgate, able to tap it over to Horbock,
skated the center, fell down, couldn't get it deep, but
threw it back to Dubinski. So the Badgers will rag
it a little bit, and now Pladachuck will fling it
(02:44:26):
all the way down. Lyndon would zero for five on
the power play tonight. Badgers have held them to just
twenty shots on goal. It seems like the Lions have
had more than that. They've been in the scoring areas
rather consistently here tonight.
Speaker 8 (02:44:44):
I've had a couple of really good chances on the
power play.
Speaker 2 (02:44:47):
Badgers tried to rim it around to clear it, went
off a shin pad and came freedom Finley in front
of his own net, and he turned and just hammered
it down for five to go. In the third period,
too nothing, Wisconsin pass ahead. Savois lets Ood pick it up,
charging in behind the net. Falen lets him go to
the far wing out to see the left handed defenseman
(02:45:10):
to Ood in front. Pass intended for Fontaine, good stick
by Zach Schulz. The Junior and New York Islanders draft
Joyce Shoals getting knuckles as he has the Badger bench
for fresh set of penalty killers. Fifty three seconds left
in the linen Wood power play.
Speaker 7 (02:45:26):
Who would put his stick up on his helmet saw
the opportunity, had Zach Schulz as conleys like you said,
stick perfect place, risshot deflex.
Speaker 8 (02:45:37):
It up into the netting.
Speaker 2 (02:45:38):
Oods six eighty five pound freshman from Quebec played for
the Victoriaville Tigers of the Quebec Maritime Junior Hockey League.
I had never heard of that. Twenty eight goals, fifty
six points and fifty eight games for Olivier Oud who
lost the offensive zone face off and the Badgers cleared
all the way down. Luis Philippe Fontainne for Lindenwood, also
(02:46:04):
played in that Quebec Maritime Junior Hockey League for the
Shamma Niggan cataracts, which is a clouding of eyeballs, right,
it's the clouding of your eye. It's an eye issue
you know, affects your vision, but or or it's so
in Native American terms, a waterfall cataracts is a waterfall.
(02:46:29):
Whatever third, twelve seconds left in the power play, linden
Wood's got the puck, little sauce pass near side, oot
far side, nice catch, sav walk can't shoot ood he
will no goes down. The defenseman reaching back Fitzgerald to
originally blocked the shot. Foot got him down and then
he stepped right and Fitzgerald got back up and blocked
the shot anyway. Now from the slot up plast that
(02:46:50):
may have hit the crossbar, hit something in front and
deflected into the corner, almost took off the head of
the official. Badgers get the job done on the PK.
Now six for six, it's all leaning nothing. Two thirty
eight to play.
Speaker 7 (02:47:02):
In the third, Quinn Finley with the play flynet to
get it out of danger.
Speaker 2 (02:47:06):
Finally here's Grady Deering now scoops it add to Kuchanan,
Badrew's Kukanon to Montgomery off his stick, taken by Yakish
and then taken back by Kuchanan off the stick of Jingle.
Kuchanon lifted the stick of Jingle, allowing the puck to
stay in the offensive zone, getting some support from Montgomery.
Now Big Fellow spins back to his left on his
(02:47:28):
back hand out to the point he comes Osburn. He
walks down the wall to the goal line, goes Luke
Osburn centering pass off the stick of the gold center
chop that not out by Lindenwood. Badger's hold for a moment.
Deering then able to sweep it back to the corner
and under two minutes to go in regulation to nothing.
Wisconsin good hustle by Montgomery to hold his zone. Ran
(02:47:49):
into traffic, though puck is still free. Blake Montgomery after
it in the corner Osburn. Montgomery out there deering as well.
Shot by Osburn, redirected dear stuff by Nappy jams at
it once or twice, and that leads to the Lions
attacking Deering, and now Montgomery is leaning over the top
of the goaltender with help from the Lindenwood defenseman. Jingle,
(02:48:12):
no harm, no foul there either. Good strong play though,
and tearing out a chance for another.
Speaker 7 (02:48:19):
Luke Osburn defenceman. And the slot batters up to nothing.
They're not messing around, They're still pushing you. So Ben
Dexheimer joined the rush a little bit ago, that one
Luke Osburn playing offense.
Speaker 2 (02:48:33):
How about crunch time. You have three freshmen on the ice,
not counting your freshman goaltender, and now you bring out Morrissey, Findley, Horback,
Dexheimer and Shoals.
Speaker 8 (02:48:45):
Probably a timeout by Lynden into it, baby, I.
Speaker 2 (02:48:48):
Think, so to nothing, the Badgers lead Lindenwood and the
Lions have just called the time out. Hey, it gives
us some time to tell you that every day Alzheimer's
disease impact millions of families across the country. At the

and get involved Today. One forty to go in regulation,
Badger's lead to nothing offensive zone face off coming up
for Wisconsin in the Lindenwood zone.
Speaker 8 (02:49:50):
You mentioned a minute ago.
Speaker 7 (02:49:51):
Freshmen out there before this shift kind of been waiting
for this moment the whole game to see what the
coaching staff was going to do at the end of
the game. Up here late they get a minute forty laugh.
You got at least the shift here, probably two or
three shifts, maybe more left to go, and there's there's
so many freshmen in the lineup, they're going to be
out there at this point in the game. Most likely,
(02:50:12):
this time out helps get everyone rested up and get
the Badgers out who they need.
Speaker 2 (02:50:19):
And linden Wood won the face off. However, here comes
Southgate and he'll fling it into the right corner of
the Wisconsin zone. Out of the gold comes Clayton Knapp,
extra attacker for Lindenwood. Ninety seconds left, Badger's lead by
a pair. Southgate moved the puck along the kickplate far
corner orback after and able to nudge it out to
the blue line, but not out held in by linden
(02:50:40):
Wood left wing pass Seed shoots it low off the
stick and wide, may have hit the stick of howsers.
Southgate put his stick down. Now, Finley goes for the
loose puck, flings at the length of the eyes, but
he'll miss the net by a good ten feet. Wisconsin
called for icing one oh three left here in the
third two nothing.
Speaker 7 (02:50:57):
Badgers sniff at an empty non with the goal scorer right,
but also take the clear good possession by Linnenwood.

Or no mercy A Fontaine, Southgate, Seed and Elias on
the ice for Linen. Would they win the face off
shot got through Houser say rebound lose. Percy E tries
to score, but Houser kept his right pad down the
puck just underneath it, and he kept it out of
the nets. Another face off win for Linden would in
(02:52:42):
that time a dangerous situation.
Speaker 7 (02:52:45):
Houser keeps it s dooreless for the Lions. Hey, you
could see the puck lying under the right pad of Hawser.
Then they would trying to push the pucket him into
the net. Strong leg, keep it out. Badgers did what
they needed to do to the face off.
Speaker 2 (02:53:01):
Lynnon Woods won twenty nine of fifty five face offs.
Tonight more no against Morrissey and this time Gavin wins
it and it's banked off the glass by Dexzheimer, but
too strongly all the way down. Findley in a foot
race trying to be Ethan Elias all the way down,
but it was too late, so icing on the Badgers
fifty one point two seconds to go.
Speaker 7 (02:53:21):
I just tried to clear Jack Horback trying to get
up the zone, ran over the Nolan seed at the
point scene gave him a little shot as he tried
to go chase down the puck doesn't.
Speaker 2 (02:53:33):
Look like this Lion club is going to back down.
Badgers have to play him again tomorrow night. They saw
Morrissey kicked out of the circles, so Jack horback. Nope,
Morrissey's just received a warning. He'll try it again against Moreno.
To the right of Houser. Morrissey basically bowled over more
No deck Sheimer after it took a stick to the chops.
(02:53:56):
Horback there, picks up the loose buck and scoops it
a head hustling after it Finley, that will wipe out
icing and from a tough angle he tried to put
it in the empty net. He had no angle at all.
It went off of sticking out of play, and because
it went off a lion, the face off will be
dropped in the Lindenwood zone with thirty six point four
(02:54:16):
seconds left.
Speaker 8 (02:54:17):
They that means I had to put their goal tener
back in the net hererect.
Speaker 2 (02:54:20):
So that's a hustle play by you know, your star player,
Quinn Finley, And I know he would like to have
scored a goal there and probably was thinking that way.
But nevertheless, his hustle pays off for Wisconsin. And how
about deering out there on the face off, but he
lost the draw. Here comes Lindon Wood three wide, but
three Badgers back, and now all five Wisconsin skaters in
(02:54:44):
the defensive zone verse eight try to reach it. Twenty
seconds left in regulation. More No spins it around but
not strongly enough, taken away by Oliver. Talk here's lead
feeding out of bottrels shooting at the empty netty scars
talk to Mootterrel empty netter. Badgers three nothing, fourteen points
six seconds left and that will do it.
Speaker 8 (02:55:05):
Here in Lyndon Wood and the Badgers figured this out.
Speaker 7 (02:55:09):
Trying to get the puck out of their own end.
They they iced the pucket a few too many times.
They finally figured out God went up in the air
for Quinn Filly to skate onto. This time we used
the pressure of Lynden who had got to puck out,
skated it out and Ryan Bottrel from a decent distance
makes no mistake and the Badgers should clench that with that.
Speaker 2 (02:55:29):
Nineteen forty five, the time of Botterill's goal, give Oliver
Tulk the primary assists three nothing Wisconsin lead. So ten newcomers,
eight freshmen, including goaltender Daniel Hauser, and Hauser has been
perfect and is Wisconsin debut, a twenty one save shutout,
(02:55:50):
and the Badgers win their season opener on the road
against Lyndon Wood three nothing the final score.
Speaker 8 (02:55:57):
And Daniel Howser standing there.
Speaker 7 (02:56:00):
We haven't really talked too much about how common confident
he looks out there. The game end of the buzzer
sounded and he just stood there like it was still
going on, like nothing happened. But great performance by him,
and the impact by the freshman in Tulk and Grady
Deering and Luke Osburn and everyone else, and the Badgers
get it done here to start out the season.
Speaker 2 (02:56:25):
So Christian Fitzgerald a power play goal, Grady Deering made
it to nothing late in the second, and then Bonnrel
with an empty netter. The Badgers beat Lyndon Wood three
nothing and the start the season with eight w Stay tuned.

Speaker 1 (02:59:57):
Making life better by protecting your dreams.
Speaker 5 (03:00:01):
Welcome to the Badger postgame show.
Speaker 2 (03:00:04):
Back here at Maryland Heights, Missouri, Wisconsin knocks off Lindenwood
Tonight three nothing a twenty one, say make that a
twenty two save performance shut out by freshman Daniel Hauser
as the Badgers start one to zero against a team
that upset them in the season opener a year ago
(03:00:25):
at the Cole Center, Badgers get some payback and they'll
try to sweep the series tomorrow with face off a
little after seven o'clock on the Badger Sports Network. Again
with the influx of freshmen. You know, you've got seven
freshmen that were in the lineup tonight, including your goaltender,
one on defense, and five forwards. And we saw a
lot of those rookies out on the ice at crunch time. Obviously,
(03:00:48):
that's that might bode well for this season when you
see that these young men can get the job done
when they need them to the most.
Speaker 14 (03:00:56):
Yeah.
Speaker 7 (03:00:56):
I mean, you have that many in your lineup, you
need them to contribute, and they definitely did tonight on
the score sheet, off the score sheet.
Speaker 8 (03:01:05):
Just a solid performance by a lot of those newcomers.
Speaker 2 (03:01:08):
Yeah again. Badger's first goal the season scored by Christian
Fitzgerald on a power play halfway through the first Logan
Henzler and Oliver Tulk with assists. Badgers made it two
to nothing on a fine play by freshman Grady Dearing
his first goal as a Badger, with Joe Pilata, Chuck
and Aiden Dubinski assisting, and then Ryan Bodrol finished it
off with an empty net goal with fifteen seconds to
(03:01:30):
play Tulk with a lone assists, so he has a
two point night in his Badger's debut and Wisconsin wins
three to nothing. All right, let's name our three stars
of the game. And we've done this for many, many years,
brought to you by Everlight Solars, Save money, Save the Planet.
Start with Everlight Solar.
Speaker 7 (03:01:48):
Well, we've got three newcomers on this list in my
buck okay, on the score sheet. Number three Oliver Toulk
a couple assists, second assists on the opener for a
play and then finished off with a nice pass to
Ryan Botta to close out on the empty netter go
with him for number three. Number two Grady Deering. He
(03:02:08):
was listed as a fourth line center, probably played fourth
line center time, but he was impressive. He was smart,
had a great goal in the second period of make
it a two goal lead, ended up with five shots
on the night, and was really noticeable. Great size, and
he's going to keep an eye on for sure. And
then number one, I mean I have to kind of
(03:02:28):
do it with the goaltender Daniel Hauser. Just he's so
calm out there. Like I've watched my practice, it's a
different thing.
Speaker 2 (03:02:35):
In this game.
Speaker 7 (03:02:36):
He's confident. You can tell he's played a lot of
hockey at a pretty high level.
Speaker 8 (03:02:42):
Kind of looks.
Speaker 7 (03:02:42):
I don't want to compare Machine Connolly, but he's got
that size and his quick feet and kind of reminds
me a little bit of him. It just super calm
though again I mentioned at the end of the game,
better than Horn went off. He just stood there like
no big deal, like nothing happened. It got on the
first win. He's won two hundred whatever, how many games
he wanted the WHL, and he he ends up being
one of seven Badgers all time with a shutout.
Speaker 8 (03:03:04):
In his debut.
Speaker 2 (03:03:05):
Tell me about the others who did who had a
shutout in their Badger debut, William Gramma, Jack Berry. I
remember those. I called those.
Speaker 7 (03:03:13):
Guys, those that are all within the last ten fifteen years.
Baron Brucler did it for Wisconsin in the early two thousands.
Speaker 2 (03:03:19):
Yep.
Speaker 7 (03:03:19):
Jim Carrey, he went onto a pretty good career, won
the Vesida Trophy in the National Hockey League, and then
Wayne Thomas had the first one way back in the day. Obviously,
he had also a NHL, big time NHL career as
a player and a front office person.
Speaker 2 (03:03:35):
Yeah, Wayne Thomas, the first Badger to play in the
National Hockey League, the first Badger to win a Stanley Cup. Unfortunately,
Wayne passed away this past summer, a longtime assistant GM
and vice president of the San Jose Sharks. Just a
good man, Wayne Thomas. Too bad that he's no longer
with us. But Badgers get a shutout victory thanks to
(03:03:57):
Daniel Hauser and his teammates. So Wisconsin wins tonight by
the final score of three to nothing. Let's do our
energizing performance of the game while we have time. We're
gonna have Todd Kannatt, associate head coach, join us here
in a second. But tell us about your energizing performance
of the game.
Speaker 7 (03:04:11):
Yeah, I mean I think just Patters is getting on
the board. First goal the season, Christian Fitzgerald and Frelnett
picks up a loose puckin Hammers at home points shot
Logan Hensler, and obviously you want to get that lead.
Badger's never had the lead last year against Lynnenwood, battled
the whole time. This time they get out to an
early lead about halfway through the first pier on the
power play, and good things from there.
Speaker 2 (03:04:31):
Yep, Fitzgerald a power play goal, first goal the season
proved to be the game winner in a three to
nothing victory. Nice job tonight, We'll do it again tomorrow.
Sounds good. Paul Capo Bianco from UW Athletic brand communications
with us here on the Badger Sports Network. Wisconsin wins
the season opener three to nothing. Associate head coach Todd
Kannatt is coming up. This is Badger Hockey from Learfield.

The Sentience Center, home of the Lindenwood Lions. The Badgers
beat linden Wood and the season opener here tonight. Three nothing.
Associate head coach Todd Cannot joins us upstairs. Congratulations. Always
nice to win, don't matter when, but when to start
the season with a brand new group of guys, you
get to win on the road most.
Speaker 28 (03:08:21):
Yeah, I agree with you because last year, remember playing
the same team at home with a similar effort and
don't find a way to win a hockey game. So
as much as it wasn't pretty at times, I don't
know if I've ever been part of a first game
of the season that is, you just got to try
to find a way.
Speaker 2 (03:08:38):
And I thought our guys stuck with it.
Speaker 28 (03:08:40):
You score a power play goal early, and then I
thought our penalty kill stepped up. You know, we took
far too many penalties. We're gonna have to take a
look at that and talk about being a little bit
more disciplined. But I thought our guys stepped up when
we needed it with one our goaltender and then some
block shots.
Speaker 2 (03:08:54):
Yeah, I mean credit linden Wood. Though they were coming
at you, they were agitating, they were hitting, and when Yeah,
it's just I think human nature. When you keep getting popped,
you want to pop back right, no question.
Speaker 28 (03:09:06):
And that's where we're gonna have to learn from it, though.
You got to do it within the rules. And Fish
is a good coach. Coach Hastings and him go back
a long long ways. He's been through it. Whether Penn State, Princeton,
USHL got a lot of experiences. You knew they were
going to come out and play hard, be a discipline team,
and that's what we got tonight.
Speaker 2 (03:09:24):
Yeah, with the amount of penalties too, you're shuffling your lineup,
whether it's the forward lines of the depairs right, that
makes it challenging.
Speaker 28 (03:09:30):
It is, and especially with guys there's a lot of
new guys in the lineup, and there was never any
flow to the game because of that, when you're constantly
almost seven defense been and then like you say, with
the forward group, different guys killing, and then with even
having some of our main killers taking penalties, and that's
what it was exciting. A guy like Grady Deering I
thought stepped up as a young guy not just a
(03:09:51):
goalie scored, which I thought was a very big goal.
But I thought he played very solid minutes and he
didn't look like a young guy tonight. I thought Osborne
did the same thing from the back end, a kid
trying to make plays. A little bit off at times
in terms of execution, but I absolutely love that he's
laying it out on the line and puck on a stick.
Speaker 2 (03:10:08):
He wants it there.
Speaker 28 (03:10:09):
So some exciting things that way, and we just got
to continue to grow.
Speaker 2 (03:10:12):
Yeah, you can throw Alliver Tolkien there too, one.
Speaker 28 (03:10:14):
Hundred percent well over and you know what, he's been
dynamite from practice one. He's different on a power play
and I think you'll just see him continue to get
better throughout the year.
Speaker 2 (03:10:23):
How about Daniel Hauser, He comes in as a as
a rookie. You know, he played one hundred and seventy
five games in the Western League, won one hundred and
twenty five of them or whatever the number was, and
he just looked calm and cool from the get go,
right he did.
Speaker 28 (03:10:36):
A lot of people have asked that question, and you know,
the whole college experience, and I get that, but throughout
the years, I don't care if it was Drydan McKay
back in Minnesota state. You know what, guys that have
a little bit of that swager, and he has that.
He's been through a lot of buildings where he's playing
in front of twelve thousand people when you go to
that Western League, So it's it's not new to him
(03:10:56):
in terms of pressure playoffs. He's beat out multiple NHL
draft picks that we're six foot three at a hundred
and ninety one, and so he's been through it a
little bit and it showed tonight.
Speaker 2 (03:11:07):
I thought, all right, well, you get to win on
the road and that's all that matters. Doesn't matter how it's,
it's how many, so try to make it to tomorrow.
That's exactly it. Pope, all right, hey, thanks a lot,
thank you. Todd cannot associate head coach upstairs with us

opening win over Lyndenwood. More to come here in just

the Badgers opened at home against Lyndon Wood and the
Lions beat them four to two. This season, Mike Hastings
third is the Badger's head coach. They came to Missouri
to play Lyndon Wood looking for a little payback. And
here are the calls of the game. Here's talk now

Chrisconsin gets on the board with a power play goal

He'll get credit for a save. Seed and Elias on

but Bowser kept his right pad down the buck just
(03:19:34):
underneath it, and he kept it out of the nets.
Twenty seconds left in regulation, Moreno spins it aroundin out
strongly enough, taken away by Oliver. Talk here's lead being

perfect and is Wisconsin debut a twenty one save shutout

your calls of the game. Wisconsin scored first Christian Fitzgerald
(03:20:19):
a power play goal at nine to twenty seven of
the first period, assisted by Logan Henzler and Oliver Tulk.
Badgers had a one nothing lead after one. They added
to that lead late in the second period Freshman Grady
