The following is an exclusive sports presentation on Newstalk thirteen

This is your radio home for Wisconsin Badger Hockey.

Speaker 2 (00:14):
Looking shooting stars. The Badgers get a Shorhanner and take
the laid stick. Candley shot prey scars.

Speaker 3 (00:22):
Wow, what a shot and bed it call at the.

Speaker 2 (00:56):
Fans from the Senteen Community Center and Maryland Heights, Missouri,
Welcome to Wisconsin Badger Hockey. Tonight. The Badgers tried to
start their season two and zero as they faced the
Lindenwood University Lions along with our producer Zach Factor at
our lear Field Studios down the road in Jefferson City, Missouri.
Paul capel Bianco from UW Athletic Brand Communications on Brian

(01:20):
Posik while the Mike Hastings Era, his third season as
head coach, started last night here with a three to
nothing win over the Lyndenwood Lions. The Badgers scored a
goal in each period last night, Christian Fitzgerald on a
power play in the first, freshman Grady Deering in the
second period, sophomore Ryan Bottrel an empty netter in the end.

(01:41):
But really the story of the game from the Wisconsin
perspective was the play of goaltender Daniel Howsard.

Speaker 5 (01:47):
Yeah, we talked last night the biggest question entering this
season was the goaltending.

Speaker 6 (01:51):
Badgers have depth up front.

Speaker 5 (01:52):
The d is pretty solid and up two brand new
guys and one who played one game last year, and
Daniel Howser showed but he's going to bring to the
Badgers this year.

Speaker 6 (02:01):
He was unbelievably calm throughout the game.

Speaker 5 (02:05):
You can see his demeanor even off the ice is
very similar to that, and he showed it last night.
He has really quick legs moving moving around. We saw
a kick save he made and just moving back and forth.

Speaker 6 (02:15):
Latterly.

Speaker 5 (02:16):
He's a little bit smaller, but he obviously makes up
for it with his quickness and got a little help
from a crossbar or two on a penalty kill. But
he's in position when that happened, So he was an
excellent confidence builder for the Batters on their back end
for sure.

Speaker 2 (02:33):
Howser, the winning his goaltender in the history of the
Western Hockey League Major Junior Hockey, made six saves of
the first period, seven in the second, then nine in
the third. Only twenty two saves for that shutout last
night for Daniel Hauser, which tells you that the decorm
and the forwards for that metter played their roles defensively.

Speaker 5 (02:53):
Yeah, for sure they did. And we didn't even touch
on He looked just straight at the numbers. He had
a shutout his first ever game. That's not been done
that much, and the Batter's kind of made a habit
of that lately, with four.

Speaker 6 (03:04):
Of the last eight years that Badgers did that.

Speaker 5 (03:07):
As Todd Malesky pointed out his recap last night of
the game, and it's happened a few times have late,
but yeah, starting out a career with a shutout as
a heck of a way that started out.

Speaker 2 (03:19):
Yeah, only the sixth goaltender in school history to earn
a shutout in his UW debut, joining William Gramma Jack, Barry,
Baron Brookler, Jim Carrey in the late Wayne Thomas. Yeah,
for the last eight years. Wisconsin started the season with
a shutout victory. And also last night something we hadn't
seen haven't seen very often. The Badgers started the game

(03:42):
on a power play because of a protocol pedalty against
Lennon when they got off the ice late after pregame
last night, and the last time that happened was the
twenty two to twenty three season against Ohio State. Badgeries
didn't score on that opening power play last night, but
they did on their second took a one nothing lead.
That was an issue a year ago was getting the

(04:03):
first lead of the game. To get the first lead
the way Mike Hastings, Todd Connott, Nick Oliver, Kevin Murdoch
teach defense of getting the lead at any point in
the game, that's usually a good sign for the squad, and.

Speaker 6 (04:16):
The special teams is key to when that happens.

Speaker 5 (04:19):
And the Batterer's got an early power play goal in
the first half of the first period and they killed
six penalties last night. That's I mean, you start out
with good goaltending and a formula with good special teams
to win that battle.

Speaker 6 (04:29):
That's that's a.

Speaker 5 (04:30):
Perfect formula for success. And we'll point out that protocol penalty.
There's a lot of guys starting out in the Western
Hockey League here at NCAA Hockey this year, and for
at least from the discussions after the game, that's maybe
not a thing in the Western Hockey League.

Speaker 6 (04:44):
I know the equipmentator the.

Speaker 5 (04:46):
Point was very aware of that and yelling at the
batterers to make sure they got off, and he even
gave le Linnwood to quick the matcher a little bit
advice going forward, which is make sure you yell at
your guys to get him off the ice.

Speaker 6 (04:57):
They probably learned their lesson last night.

Speaker 5 (04:58):
But you can also to be the guy to make
sure your team gets off and doesn't start the game
on shorthanded.

Speaker 6 (05:05):
Kind of a little interesting tidbit there.

Speaker 2 (05:06):
Yeah, Lynon Wood doesn't have any players from major junior hockey,
but they do have players from Canadian universities. Those players
are now eligible eligible to play NCAA competition much like
major juniors. And yeah, they have a handful of guys
that played in what they call U sports in Canada
and maybe they were the ones with a transgression. Nevertheless,

(05:27):
besides the fact that Daniel Hauser won his debut and
shut out fashion, a few other freshmen stood out last night,
didn't they. Yeah.

Speaker 5 (05:34):
I mean Grady Deering, for for one, was the fourth
line center on the line chart last night anyway, and
he made a great impact, came out.

Speaker 6 (05:42):
I think it was his first shift.

Speaker 5 (05:43):
He made a great Reid stole a puck up the
ice and he made a kind of a highlight reel goal.
Definitely the best goal of the year so far for
Wiscon's up the ice on the rush down the left wing.

Speaker 6 (05:53):
It was kind of a three on four rush.

Speaker 5 (05:56):
Deering just powered around one of the d on lynd
would went straight to the net to candle around the
goaltender and put it home on the far side.

Speaker 6 (06:02):
I was extremely impressive play.

Speaker 5 (06:04):
And Oliver Tulk Western Canada freshman two assists last night.
You know all the hype and there's another one in
hol hockey and he matched him last night with two
assists at the game and as a good performance for
a number fifty five.

Speaker 2 (06:19):
Yeah. Paul with tongue in cheek talking about Gavin McKenna,
the projected number one overall pick in the NHL Draft
next year. Made his Penn State debut last night, and
those two helpers and then nitnany lyons sixty three win
over Arizona State. As far as Deering is concerned, these
six to two hundred and five pound freshman from Des Moines,
not only did he score last night, he was plus

(06:41):
two plus minus wise, he also had five shots on
goal to leave the squad and because his performance, Mike
Hastings has moved Dearing up on the line chart. He
will center Jack Horbach on the right and Blake Montgomery
on the left. You know who was so discombobulated last night.
There were a lot of a lot of shuffling going

(07:01):
on with forward lines and d pairs for that matter,
but the lineup virtually the same. Only one change for
the Badgers tonight. Finn Brink, the freshman from Maple Grove, Minnesota,
former Madison Capital's captain. He'll make his UW debut tonight.
Bruno E John is a healthy scratch. It's Wisconsin and
Lynnenwood game two of the twenty twenty five twenty six season,

(07:25):
and we'll hear from head coach Mike Hastings when we
come back from the rail Transport Broadcast table. This is

So my mother is thinking of switching from Verizon to
Pure Talk, but she's worried the deal sounds too good
to be true. Michael, She said, how can those Pure
Talk people offer me the same basic services Verizon for
so much less money? I said, ma, go ask Google
how much Verizon spends on advertising and promotions. A few
seconds later, my mother said, oh, my goodness, twelve billion

(08:43):
dollars a year. That must be a typo. I'll tell
you what I told my mom. It's not a typo.
Verizon spends twelve billion dollars a year on advertising and promotions,
and their customers are paying for it. Well, Pure Talk
doesn't spend that kind of money on commercials, trust me would.
Oh that's why they can offer you and my mother
unlimited talk, text, and plenty of data on a crazy

One Call That's All Injured. Remember One Call That's All
Where The Sentem Community Center near Saint Louis's, Wisconsin takes
on Lindenwood again tonight after a three to nothing victory
over the Lions last night to get the season started,
joined by head coach Mike Hasting's always nice to win

(10:54):
and you get your season opening victory. I guess your
first impressions of what you saw of.

Speaker 17 (10:58):
Your new group this year youthful, and I like the
youth playing the way that they did with you know,
Houser going out and just going out and pitching a shutout.
You know, And I think back to our initial year
and goaltender that we had that gave us an opportunity
to get off to a good start. That happened last night.

(11:18):
We need that to continue. And then we had you know,
Oliver Tolku'za freshman has to assists Grady Deering goes out
and I think from start to finish was good in
both ends of the rank. Takes it to a far
post to give us a two goal cushion. You know,
we had some of those guys play not like freshmen,
which we're going to need to as we knew coming

(11:40):
into this year. And then hopefully now we can get
some of the other guys, the usual suspects, playing up
to their capabilities, and if that happens, I think will
be a tough hut.

Speaker 2 (11:51):
There wasn't a lot of flow to the game. In fact,
the game started with Wisconsin on a power play because
of a protocol penalty against linnen Wood. But there were
fourteen penalties. You're on the penalty killed six different times.
I will say your penalty kill was pretty good last night.

Speaker 4 (12:04):
It was we don't want to test that out.

Speaker 2 (12:06):
That was enough.

Speaker 17 (12:07):
And so yeah, her discipline has to be better than
it was last night. And you know, I think us
being a little bit more aggressive and be connected tonight.
Aggressive with the puck, not just talking about going in
being physical when we don't have it, but being connected
the offensive zone, getting a little bit more in zone
offense created by possessing it and playing with a little

(12:31):
bit more confidence.

Speaker 2 (12:32):
You were saying to me prior to the interview that
you were being spread out last night. Can you explain that?

Speaker 17 (12:37):
Yeah, you know, when we broke a puck out or
we came back and transitioned through the neutral zone, if
we put it on a wall, we didn't have any
real short support, our center had gotten away from the puck.
If we had some opportunities coming out of our zone
where we'd gone D to D and got a puck
to a wall, A lot of times we'll lead dug

(12:59):
that and try and push and get somebody behind their
defenceman and then have a second layer underneath.

Speaker 4 (13:04):
I just thought after the initial.

Speaker 3 (13:06):
Pass, we didn't have that ten foot option.

Speaker 17 (13:09):
And so for us, when we're connected, and that's what
I mean by connected, when we're giving the guy with
a fucking an opportunity to have one or two or
three other options, we can enter this own possession, which
makes us a much better offensive team.

Speaker 2 (13:23):
I guess it's to be expected. Things aren't always going
to go as plan when you're playing the first game
of the year.

Speaker 17 (13:28):
Yeah, And as we've discussed, when you know, when you
have three freshmen centermen and when we talk about support,
support inside dots in between the dots, of being able
to have that available, it's a learning curve for three freshmen,
but you know, opportunity for us to be better at it.

Speaker 2 (13:45):

Gets Wisconsin in linden Wood again tonight. Mike Hastings here
on the pregame show, Mike, you brought up Grady Deering.
He is a man at six foot two, two hundred
and ten pounds, but he's a little bit quicker than
I thought.

Speaker 4 (16:13):
He was.

Speaker 2 (16:14):
His play off the wall, the left wing wall to
take it to the net and score.

Speaker 4 (16:18):
He did a lot of other things too.

Speaker 2 (16:19):
But he's a gifted young man.

Speaker 20 (16:21):
You know what he is.

Speaker 17 (16:22):
He's humble and I think that goes that obviously if
you've met the family, they're very prideful, but very humble people.
And goes to work every day. He's a guy that
brings it consistently, has since he walked foot on campus.
And I just thought he played with a lot of
confidence last night, and I think that comes from preparation

(16:45):
and hopefully he can back that up again to night
and we can have some other guys on that train.

Speaker 2 (16:50):
Speaking of preparation, you brought up Daniel Hawser. He's played
a lot of games, he's prepared for this moment, and
he did not look like it was beyond or out
of his control. He was so calm and cool and boys,
he quick on his feet.

Speaker 17 (17:03):
Yeah, he's one of the probably one of the best
guys that I've seen from post to post as far
as quickness for a young guy and for a smaller goaltender.
But again, as you said, I thought his rebound control
was good last night. There's just not a lot of
a radic play with him. He's very concise with his

(17:24):
movement and I just thought he did a really good
job last night. And he's, as you've said, played a
lot of hockey and we need that to continue.

Speaker 2 (17:33):
Tell me too, you really liked the play of your
decor didn't you.

Speaker 17 (17:36):
You know what, we didn't give up a tremendous amount
and I thought we defended pretty well. Again, if there
were a couple of rebounds that were left, we were
the first one to get a stick on them, and
so there weren't a lot of second and third opportunities
that they had offensively, and we kept you know, for
the most part, we kept that team to the outside
when we were playing playing even we gave up some opportunities,

(17:57):
but the opportunities were on the power play. So stay
out of the box, continue to defend as a group,
have our forwards come back and stay inside that house
a little bit more, and hopefully we can play a
bit more offense tonight than we did last night.

Speaker 2 (18:09):
Daniel Hauser back and goal tonight. You are making one
change in the lineup.

Speaker 17 (18:12):
Growth Yep, Brink's going in and Bruno's coming out. Freshman opportunity.
Finn's been really good throughout the summer and trying to
give guys opportunities right now to show themselves and he's
earned it. And not that Bruno did anything dramatically to
come out of the lineup, because he's somebody that we're

(18:33):
going to rely upon because he does some things very
very well that we need. It's an opportunity for bringing
to get in and earn his stripes a little bit.

Speaker 2 (18:42):
That's Badger's head coach. Mike Hastings Wisconsin Anne Linnenwood coming

One call that's all injured. Remember one call that's all
back Here in Marilyn Heights, very warm day again, the
day up near to ninety degrees or so. Badgers will
head home after the game tonight, and their next game

(22:06):
action is Thursday night. October ninth is coming week, an
exhibition against the US Under eighteen team at the Cole Center.
Face off is at seven o'clock. Tonight's game against lynden
Wood the second of ten non conference games on the
Badgers' schedule. After the US Under eighteen team, Wisconsina will
host coach Luke Strand and the Minnesota State Mavericks Thursday Friday,

(22:28):
October sixteenth and seventeenth. My castings Todd Connatt, Luke Regner
going against their old school in Minnesota State. Badgers will
host Alaska October twenty fourth and twenty fifth, and then
you know, the Badgers will get into their Big Ten
competition at home against Minnesota. You know, it's a good
schedule for Wisconsin. That'll be quite a challenge in a

(22:50):
couple of weeks when Mankato comes to town.

Speaker 5 (22:53):
Yeah, for sure, it didn't mention Sawyer Scholl who has
now in man Cato, and even Tommy Ainkrot, the Badger's
strength coach, was came from Minnesota State. But yeah, they're
pretty much have been in the top of the CCHA
every year and they're picked up there again this year.

Speaker 6 (23:10):
Troy Ward also.

Speaker 5 (23:11):
Oh yeah, as a former Badgery assistant coaches out there
with helping out Luke Strand.

Speaker 2 (23:16):
But Corey McCracken who was a high school coach in
Wisconsin for a very successful one as well, So a
lot of connections there.

Speaker 5 (23:22):
Yes, an incredible crossover there. But yeah, Minnesota State is
a good team. The Badgers get to play a CDCHA team.
Those interconference battles are super important. You're going against one
of the top teams in another conference, and those are
important wins if you're looking later down the line and
you're trying to get into an NCAA tournament, that type
of thing.

Speaker 2 (23:38):
Yeah, you know what, Anchorage will come to town January
ninth and tenth, Quick Trip Holliday face off. That is
quite a field December twenty eighth and twenty ninth at
five er Form. Yeah, that's that's for by far the
best field that's been there so far. Defending NCAA champion
Western Michigan and Boston College. You'll meet off on one
of the semi finals where the Badgers play Lakesperior State,

(23:58):
and so the Batterers will be playing either BC or
Western Michigan in the second day.

Speaker 5 (24:04):
And yeah, that's a stacked field. That's almost an NCAA
regional type feel to that one. So that's something to
look forward to and towards the end of December in
Milwaukee for sure.

Speaker 2 (24:14):
Yep, you can get your tickets ticketmaster dot com. Tickets
are available for all the Badgery home games this season.

Speaker 5 (24:19):
Yep, U to b Batters dot com for sure, Come
love to come see you out at the Coal Center.
It's a I think it's the best atmosphere Wisconsin athletics,
especially when the building is full, even can get to
about ten thousand, and it's just an amazingly fun experience.
And hopefully Badgers will get going here and we'll see
we'll see a full building this year.

Speaker 2 (24:39):
Yep. And also, you know, I'm not sure how many
UW students are listening right now. Maybe they are, we
hope so. But you've got the annual student shootout. Tell
the listeners what that's all about. Yeah, that's that's such
a fun event every year.

Speaker 5 (24:52):
I wasn't sure the first time we did that if
people would show up, but they did, and man it
it gets packed. Or the Badger students come out to
the Coal Center this Tuesday, gates open at five point
thirty and get a chance to shoot down the ice
at a net on the other far side of the
rink to get some free season tickets again to help

(25:13):
that atmosphere at the Call Center. The students that are
such an important part of the energy for games. And
that's just such a fun day every year. We show
up there and try to take pictures and see how
it's going. It's just like absorb the energy there. It's
so much fun.

Speaker 2 (25:27):
Speaking of fun, in a couple of years, Badger hockey
will pay a visit to Belfast, Northern Ireland.

Speaker 5 (25:33):
I'm looking forward to that. Hopefully I'm still calling the
games at that point. That's such a cool thing. It's
the same fall that the It's winner by then. I
think for that the football team will be playing Pitt
to open up the year in August, but the Badgers
will be in Belfast.

Speaker 6 (25:48):
In Northern Ireland.

Speaker 5 (25:49):
It's a tournament that's gone on for ten plus years,
the Friendship four, the Friendship four correct playing for the
Bell Trophy and the Bell Pot Trophy. Abiologies, but yeah,
it's It's mostly been an Eastern tournament to spend a
lot of ECAC schools some hockey East. Notre Damas was
the first Western team that went a couple of years ago,
and that field is also pretty good with North Dakota,

(26:12):
the Badgers, Quinnipiac who's been a parennial NCAA team and
national champ, recent national champ, and also Northeastern. So I'm
a circular the calendar for Thanksgiving in a couple of
years in twenty twenty seven.

Speaker 2 (26:23):
Yeah, looking forward to it the friendship for in Belfast,
Northern Ireland. Here we're in Missouri, where the Badgers hope
for a sweep against Lyndon Wood. Will update what else
is going on in the big tenants at the line
charts in a couple of minutes. This is Badger Hockey

the country projected number one overall pick in the NHL
draft next year, had two assists four shots on goal
in his collegiate debut. Penn State and Arizona State play
again tonight. Last night, Michigan blew out Mercy Hurst eleven
to nothing, a natural hat trick for Will Horcoff. Whill

(29:31):
Horcoff Is scored again and Michigan's up won nothing on

scored four goals in the third period to beat Michigan
Tech six to three. Brody Zeemer had a couple of
goals for the Gophers, who host the Huskies again this evening.

The Badgers play their conference home opening series next Saturday

(30:15):
Here at Wisconsin and Lindenwood in the series finale, we
take a look at the quick trip lineups here tonight,

Tulk five eight, one hundred and seventy five pounds from
Gibson's British Columbia. He had a pretty good Badger's debut yesterday, Didnny.

Speaker 6 (30:56):
Yeah, you can see his skill.

Speaker 5 (30:58):
I mean Honestly, the thing that's Danatamos as him knocking
a puck out of the air on a clearing attempt
that would have sent someone on linuit of a potential breakaway.

Speaker 2 (31:07):
Yeah right, yeah, talk with two helpers last night. His
left winger Ryan Bodl five to eleven, sophomore from Portage
Le Puririe, Manitoba. He had the empty net goal last evening,
did Bottrel. And then the right winger Simon Tassi six
to two hundred pounds senior from Montreal, playing in his
eighty eighth collegiate game. The Badgers' top line tonight sophomore

(32:32):

lineup due to an injury. Sophomore forward Adam Piedla has
an upper body injury. He hopes to return in a
few weeks. I tell you, Tell you, Joe Polatachuk got

(34:10):
crushed in the first period last night, and he was
injured riddled last year three different times. He missed games,
missed eleven in all. When he went to the bench,
he looked like he was an enormous pain, but he
basically had the wind knocked out of him.

Speaker 6 (34:24):
Kyle Kuchanan, on the other hand, took a.

Speaker 2 (34:26):
Blow to the head and he has stitches above and
below the right side of his mouth. He looked rather
handsome today and I know he's fired up ready to play.
It was a physical game last night.

Speaker 6 (34:39):
Yeah, I mean they had some big boys.

Speaker 5 (34:40):
He mentioned Kuzmas six six, Charles Savoa was definitely a
guy who was mixing it up all night. Took some
penalties too for his team, But yeah, that was definitely
something they wanted to set up. You mentioned before the
game before he got on air that you know there's
a brand new head coach out here. There's guys are
trying to impress their head coach, and that's one way
in their mind that they think they can do it for.

Speaker 2 (35:01):
Sure, exactly hitting anything in red. And I'm sure they'll
try to do the same thing tonight. Healthy scratches for

of youth hockey going on here earlier today, so the
ice might be a little chewed up, and because it's
been warm outside, might not be the greatest playing surface.
It wasn't that way last night, and they're expecting the
same tonight. But still we have hockey. It's October, the
season's underway, and the Badgers shoot for a sweep when
we come back. The opening face off, brought to you

Speaker 2 (38:51):
I'm with Paul Campobianco and our producer Zach Factor here
in near Saint Louis, Missouri. And it's funny listening to
the intro piece that Ryan Corman from Learfield put together
and me saying Shazam on the air, which I had
never done in my entire life. But John Audio is
the voice of Wisconsin Volleyball occasionally text me. So does

(39:12):
Matt lape Rob Andrina used to do it all the
time too, Hey say this on the air, say this
on the ear. So I got the chance to say
shazam once last year, and now they're putting it on
the the pregame open for our broadcasts. Wonderful, wonderful.

Speaker 5 (39:27):
That's got to become a thing somehow. I don't know
if it's like something we use somewhere on mine.

Speaker 2 (39:34):
All right, Oliver Tulk will take the draw against Drew
Kuzma Badgers in their cardinal red white trim and Lyndenwood
Home Whites with black and gold trim had a bit
of a delay as the referees get sets and we
are underway here at Lindenwood. The referees tonight Anthony Victor
and Cam Fleming, Vaughan Upton and Gerard Lamarou. Cam Fleming

(39:56):
did not referee last night. It was Andy Beth or Bath,
but Fleming gets the call here tonight. He has worked
independent games at the Division one level. And the ech
owl shot on goal by Ben dex Sheimer as he
gained the line off the chest of the goaltender Clayton Nappy,
juggled it but then held it and a face off
twenty three seconds into the opening period. Here as the

(40:18):
Badgers attacked the goal to our right in the first twenty.

Speaker 5 (40:21):
Minutes, Ben Dexzheimer up at the near the far blue line.
On that rush up the ice, a lot of space
for head to get the puck into the zone and
get this shot, and it was Oliver Tulk there waiting
for the rebound, the first player there, but the goaltender
Nap held on for the rebound.

Speaker 2 (40:37):
Dex Sheimer did not have a shot on goal last night.
He gets the first of the night. Here on the road,
they saw trickles towards the Lindenwood cage. Eventually the defenseman
Brody Mortensen got to it. Try to rim it around
and out. No luck there. Badger's trying to hold cannot
Here's Jake Southgate and he'll whip it into the Wisconsin
zone far corner. As we look to the left at center,

(41:00):
it's Christian Fitzgerald retrieving the puck in the Wisconsin zone.
Tries to one hand it out. Unsuccessful at that attempt,
but there's Logan Henzler to pick it up. He fires
a pass ahead that goes off the wall, taken by Lindenwood.
Across the line. It's Geo Morena and his past cross
Ice was intercepting the Badger's Quinn Finley after it. He'll

(41:21):
dump it in and give Chase Mortenson got their first Finley,
tries to lift his stick, no luck. Mortenson's got it
up the left wing wall snaps off a pass right wing.
Lindenwood on side quick shot off the blocker of Goltender
Daniel Hauser. It came from Jayden Mercia. The Badgers try
to jam it out to center over skating Montgomery, and
then Luke Osburn had it poked off his stick by

(41:41):
Adam Razler, second line left wing for Lindenwood. Luke Osburn
had it behind the net, lost it. Little physicality again
going on from Lyndon Wood as Olivier Oud applied some
pressure on Osburn and now Montgomery hit pretty good by
the defenseman Jake Delaney at the Lindenwood blue line and
the Badger's retreat to their own zone at forty into
the first no score Wisconsin and linden Wood.

Speaker 5 (42:03):
In Game two of the season, at Montgomery took a
shot in a similar place the opposite side of the
rink last night.

Speaker 6 (42:10):
Took it again here I'm waiting for a pucket the
blue line.

Speaker 4 (42:13):
Oh.

Speaker 2 (42:13):
From his knees Ethan Zilke Mean the low left circle,
fired one, an aerial shot that went through the crease
to the far corner. The Badgers gathered, gather it in
and Kyle Kuchanan will dump and chase, but linden would
quickly to it and they'll exit their zone. Zilky, the
left hander, flips it ahead to Anzelmo Rego, making his
collegiate debut out of Brampton, Ontario, played for the Penticton

(42:36):
B's of the British Columbia Hockey League and al Wisconsin's
Finn Brink making his Badger's debut. His pass to the
slot for zillanoff off of stick and out of play
two twenty three gone by Wisconsin and Linden would no score.

Speaker 5 (42:52):
It's a little bit of flow here, back and forth
after a game under their belt. It looks a little
bit cleaner for Wisconsin and I am last night. In
the first couple of minutes there are opportunities, but just
things weren't quite working. Stuck our pucks, bouncing off sticks,
turnovers here, it's just a little bit cleaner.

Speaker 2 (43:09):
It looks like based off to the left of Clayton
napped the former Minnesota du Luke fulldog, Oliver Tulk will
take the draw. He's going against Drew Kuzma again and
Tulk got his backcan on it about five feet up
the glass on the near side wall. Badgers hold the zone,
walking the line his deck cimer. He'll flip it to

(43:31):
the left corner there to try to pull it free Tulk. Instead,
it's tassy wrap around Batcan goes off the defenseman or
Kuzma's skate on goal and nap hass to pounce on it,
and the Badgers applying some pressure early on.

Speaker 5 (43:43):
Yeah, good pressure behind the net for Wisconsin, and Tassie
could see him looking out front, didn't see anything and
went on the far side of the nets, spun it
around and try to put in some traffic and as
you mentioned, bounce right off the skate of Kuzma. You
he saw John Rabbit the other night we were talking
about memories of Puck's bouncing off of him and going in.
Then that that was time and Tassie maybe trying to

(44:05):
take a little lesson and put one in off the
Lindonwood player.

Speaker 2 (44:09):
Get talked to take the draw. Spent four years in
Calgary in the Western Hockey League. Had a two hundred
and eighty two points in two hundred and seventy eight
career games. Not bad in one hundred and nine points
in seventy six a year ago. Produced two helpers last
night in the Badgers three to nothing season opening victory.
Here's Ryan botterrel skates behind the net, tied up by Mortonson,
puck off the shell far wall and gathered in now

(44:31):
by Tyler Luckman out of Saint Louis. The right headed
forward sent it towards the offensive zone, batted away Bottrels
got it wide left into the attacking zone, looking in
front Oliver Tulk and they didn't connect. Oh oh, that
a big collision as Tassy goes down, knocked down by Yakish,
very physical defenseman, even though he's only five eight one
seventy five. Boy Tolk had a golden opportunity. Nice patients

(44:55):
and feed from Ryan botterol It appeared.

Speaker 6 (44:57):
At Bottil definitely could have taken a shot, but he
made the he says in a pass.

Speaker 2 (45:01):
Fitzgerald now tries to go upstairs short side and Nap
fought it off. Here comes Lindenwood the other way. Conort Jingle.
The defenseman outlets to Lochman to the Badgers take it
from there, Morris. He now turns to his right up
to the red line, drops off at the offensive blue
line to finley slot pass for Fitzgerald just out of
his reach southgate. After it outlet far side found the

(45:24):
stick of Giovanni Mornau and now it's Mercier being slowed
as Dubinsky physical, but Lindenwood forces a turnover. And from
his right kne ear Leftny that is Southgate fired one
from the hash marks along the boards and grabbed by
Daniel Hauser and he hangs on no score sixteen oh
six to go in the opening period for shot on

(45:45):
goal of the night for the Lindenwood Lions.

Speaker 5 (45:48):
I talked about how how is there a super common
just simple movements that line. He showed a little bit
of leather there when he made that tay with the
glove and pulled it up to himself.

Speaker 6 (45:58):
A little flash there.

Speaker 2 (46:00):
Olivia Ood takes the draw, but Wisconsin's Grady Deering won
that face off lead feed for Horbock Off a stick
deep into the linden Wood sew and the goaltender behind
his cage rims it around the glass up the near
side boards and it's taken there by Adam Rasler, left
hander across the line, spins a three P sixty with
Falin in his way and push the puck deep. Now

(46:20):
a centering pass stopped on the far side by the
skate of Hawser never got to the paint. Wisconsin's Falin
now pressured double team and left it off for Osbourne.
He's tied up in the corner tried to muscle it
ahead to deering Horbock after it had his stick slashed
out of his hands, and Wisconsin's going to get an
early cune his power play four and a half minutes
in slashing penalty on linden would the Badgers get a

(46:42):
man advantage.

Speaker 5 (46:44):
Hatha's just trying to break out of their own end
and Lennywood, player two hander, knocked the stick right out
of Wisconsin's hand. Try to keep the plague on with
some feet but ref right along the board's up the ice,
easy call for him in Wisconsin again got the lead
yesterday with a power play a little bit later in

(47:04):
the game on that but pretty close and that kind
of sent them on their way. They'll look to do
the same here.

Speaker 2 (47:08):
Ty Hipkin, sophomore from High River, Alberta, gets the gate
for slashing at four thirty, so the Badgers with the
man advantage, Morrissey to take the draw. Finley Fitzgerald along
with Tassie and Dex Szeimer Morrissey battling for the biscuit
but eventually picked up by linden Wood, and they'll set
it all the way down auser will leave it off

(47:29):
for Ben Dex Sheimer and some token four checking pressure
a one to three four check on this penalty kill.
Badgers gained the line. Finley drops off left wing, left wing.
Dex Sheimer skates to the dot, snaps off the shot
that was blocked. Finley picks it up, passes left wing
to Morrissey. Fitzgerald will work the bumper position down low.
It's tassy looking for the puck at the goal line

(47:50):
instead dex Shimer straight away right wing. Now Finley. Finley
didn't score in his season debut last year against Lyndon Wood,
and then the next game he scored twice. And we'll
see if he can replicate that here to I Morrisey
pass Fitzgerald shot lit pets saved made by nap good
look more seed at Christian Fitzgerald again in front. Fitzgerald scores. Oh,
he went right back to him. Morrissey to Fitzgerald power

(48:11):
play goal Wisconsin on top again early.

Speaker 5 (48:13):
You want nothing, A lot of space and for the
net there for Kristin Fitzgerald just about five feet above
the goal crease. And as he said, he fail once
come back around to him, and he succeeded the second time.

Speaker 6 (48:27):
Low on the ice.

Speaker 5 (48:28):
I think it beat the right pad of the goaltender
Nap and the Badgers get that Christian Fitzgerald power play
goal early to take a lead.

Speaker 2 (48:36):
Second goal of the year, both on a power play
for Fitzgerald, who lit the lamp only once on the
man advantage last year. He's got two power play goals
here tonight, and he's four goals away from his season
total of six goals over all a year ago. Lindonwood
wins the draw, rims it around his housers so that
allows Wisconsin to escape, and now Henzler pokes at it

(48:57):
near the Lindenwood Blue Lite eventually got it into the
Napple drop it off for the defenseman Mortenson, who uses
the high glass to clear, but he ice the puck
icing waved off and not sure why we play on
we're skating five on five. Here's Finn Brink to dump
it down in. Branked so over joy to be playing

(49:17):
for the Wisconsin Badgers. He sat and watched as a
healthy scratch last night. But he's in the lineup tonight,
a left hander wearing number twenty seven. Finn Brank. He's
with kuchin in right now and Vacili zelen Off. Badgers
hold the zone. Zelanoff In on the four check far
car near corner ties up silky, but Linden would be

(49:40):
able to get it to center. Osborne almost mishandled sev
Wah was in his way. Osburn picked it up and
at center ice he'll bank it down in so Christian
Fitzgerald gets the Badgers on the board here again four
bigger pardon five point fifteen into the opening period. Fitzgerald
with a goal from Morrissey. Yeah, the Badger's on top

(50:02):
Osburne really smooth skater, can move left or right rather quickly,
hit the brakes and get start, get started quickly. Badger's
battling for it in the offensive zone. It's lobbed out
to center in. Osburn after it there, tries to bank
it ahead to talk too far Ethan Elias bumped it
off now far side. More No, little left hander shoots

(50:22):
one low right, pat say rebound their Houser Stone more
No or Mercier on that rebound attempt. Moren the initial shot.
Mercier right there and Houser back to back.

Speaker 5 (50:32):
Stops a tough save for the first one with a kicksave,
but puck went straight to the stick of Linenwood and
how is their quickness got back into position fast and
was there for the second save.

Speaker 2 (50:42):
Oh centering pass they've tried to go D to D
in their own zone, linen would almost gave it away
to Horbock. Now deering on the attack, he shoots one,
missed the net, walt the glass far corner held in
by Wisconsin, shot by Zach Schulz, blocked down by Southgate,
and it slides back Wisconsin's way five to one, shots
on goal in favor of the Badgers, who lead one
nothing seven and a half minutes gone by Scholes trailing

(51:05):
able to knock the puck off hipkin stick. It's loose
in neutral ice. Now Schulez has to hustle back. Falan
chopped at it off the hand of Warbach and now
taken by Yakish who was knocked down. Puck taken by
oud Ood fans off right side in the Wisconsin zone.
He shoots one, partially deflected. It's on goal and Houser

(51:25):
gloved it and hung on. Twelve to eight to go
in the first one nothing, Wisconsin lead Christian Fitzgerald with
a power play goal.

Speaker 5 (51:34):
We'll talk about how physical was Linnenwood was last night,
maybe because of the penalty killed even or they haven't.

Speaker 6 (51:40):
We haven't seen those hits yet.

Speaker 5 (51:41):
I know were only eight minutes in or so, but
that was definitely made it difficult for Wisconsin yesterday. The
Batters get a lead a little bit earlier tonight and
maybe take some of that play away from Linden Widow
though that we saw. That was the first kind of
physical play behind the net with Schulz and.

Speaker 2 (51:57):
Oude base off to the left of Daniel Hauser. It
comes all the way out to the point and a
shot a rister by the defenseman Connor Jingle was blocked
away and now Fitzgerald avoids a hit from Kuzma and
the Badgers lifted back out to center. Fitzgerald then takes

(52:19):
the puck from Lockman, skates left into the offensive zone,
tried to set up Finley for a one timer, and
Finley got the heel of his stick on it, but
nothing on goal, and now it's back Wisconsin zone. Pull
out of Chuck. Good defense with help from dex Sheimer,
preventing a two on two from developing Christian Fitzgerald goes
to get the puck and finds deck. Sheimer angles a
pass to Morrissey. Badgers backpedaling in their own zone before

(52:41):
Finley comes to help, and he'll gain the red line
and fire it in. Fitzgerald knocked down at the Lindenwood
blue line. No penalty. You know, last night the Lions
were heading anything in red, and oftentimes it was after
a whistle or when the referees weren't looking. There were
fourteen penalties called last night. Very physical play the seal.
Zillanoff took a four arm elbow to the head at

(53:04):
one point no penalty was called. Thankfully, Zillanoff was fine.
Here's kuchin In on the fly, left wing pressured and
lost possession, lifted along the far side wall, bounces off
the boards Wisconsin. Zillanoff frees the putt for cooking at
any Risks one that's stopped by Nap. It was fluttering
in the air, dropped to his right. Badger pick up
the loose pucket. Here's Fake setting up Dubinski Toni by

(53:25):
Nap pinpoint shot by Aiden Dubinski. Badgery's getting good looks
on the Lindenwood nets. Now Dubinsky, with a physical play,
snaps off the pass high slot for Zilanoff. It's off
his stick and back into the Wisconsin zone. Lindenwood badly
needs a change. Badger's deflect into the attacking zone and
the Lions get some fresh players out there, but the
Badger's after the puck and bottrel out to the left point.

(53:47):
Luke Osbern steps to his left shoot twenty scars Luke Osburn.
His first goal is Wisconsin Badger two nothing.

Speaker 5 (53:57):
Wisconsin Badgers have been a blanket over in Inwood and
the offensive zone just the for.

Speaker 6 (54:02):
Check keeps turning pucks over.

Speaker 5 (54:04):
This time they get it deep and it comes back
around on Luke Osburn throws the puck on net, some
traffic in front and he's the net, moves from the
far side, pass nap and that Badgers get the two
goal lead here early in the first period.

Speaker 2 (54:16):
Nine to thirty nine the time of the goal. Luke
Osburn scores his first in the cardinal in Whitey at
eleven for Youngstown last year when he was named the
USHL Defenseman of the Year. The Buffalo Sabers draft choice
celebrates his first Badger's marker to nothing Wisconsin not even
halfway through the opening period. All the Badgers got the

(54:40):
early lead last night won three zip and they're up
to nothing here with fifty minutes left. Here's talk now
on the attack right wing, Tassi wants a talk sauce
pass in front, great sliding leftpad saved by nap denying
Botterrel What a sauce pass by talk to the tape
of botterl stick A.

Speaker 6 (54:59):
Lot of like on that play.

Speaker 5 (55:00):
Great pass and the goaltender dragon the left leg made
the stop as the puck went back against the green.

Speaker 2 (55:06):
John Evans took a shoulder from Simon Tazzy puck loose
in the Wisconsin z own shoals rims it around now
to Montgomery, steps around the defenseman Mortenson and trying to
get uh some transition going. But the Badgers need a change.
Montgomery at the offensive blue line holds possession as the
Badgers get some fresh players out there, deering with Montgomery

(55:30):
and Horbach right point Hensler back to Montgomery, puts it
towards Horback off his sticker leg came out high to
Henzler shoots one low knees made by nap boy. He
is getting peppered so far here tonight, and now Horback
goes down in another penalty. This one comes on Lindenwood's
Luis Philippe Fontayne and the Badgers get another cuness power

(55:51):
play when we come back. Christian Fitzgerald scored on the
power play. Then freshman Luke Osburn lit the lamp. Wisconsin
leads Lindenwood to nothing back. In a moment from the
rail Transport broadcast table, this is badger hockey from lair Field.

Speaker 2 (57:05):
Dot Badger's second power play underway. Finley puts one in
front intended for Tassi, went off the paddle of the
stick of goldtender Nap. Now Tassi retrieves left goal line,
fires it out to Finley. Wisconsin with a two nothing lead.
On a power play again, Finley from the slot just
missed the upper left hand corner. Then the puck bite

(57:26):
Wisconsin's Fitzgerald or Morrissey. It was Fitzgerald. He was able
to get it up over the top of Nap, hit
the bottom of the crossbar and went in the back
of the net. Another power play goal for Fitzgerald. It's
three nothing.

Speaker 6 (57:40):
I think that was the third try on that attempt
by Wisconsin.

Speaker 5 (57:43):
I mean they had lynnon Win running all over the
place on this penalty kill, one timers wide, one timers,
bouncing off, retrieving pucks all over the place, and then
finally on the third time, this charm for Christian Fitzgerald.
The Badgers are up big time here, super early in
this game. Barely twelve minutes in is three to nothing.

Speaker 2 (58:01):
Christian Fitzgerald scores his second of the game third of
the weekend, all of come on the man advantage. Eleven
forty eighth the time of this goal, and the Badgers
have a three to nothing lead. They've out shot Lindenwood
eleven to four. Clayton n App remains between the pipes
for the Lions. Badgers forced a turnover pull outa chuck
patient throws it to open ice deep into the Lion zone,

(58:24):
but the Badgers were offside. They have to touch up.
That gives Lindenwood some time to exit the zone. But
then they turn it over and Jack Horback will send
it in Nap out of his net and he'll paddle
it all the way around and out to the Wisconsin zone,
and that's where Dubinski picks it up. Long lead feed
from Montgomery deflected back into the Wisconsin and Osburn goes

(58:45):
to get it. Andrews lead three to nothing. A pair
of power play goals from Fitzgerald and a first goal
for Luke Osburn, who flies into the Lindenwood zone, hits
the brakes of the right corner feeds deering out high
straight away. Now Dubinski looking for Montgomery coming off the
right wing wall, went off his stick. Blake tried to
get it deep that was deflected, bounces near the Lindenwood bench.

(59:07):
Hipkin puts his shoulder into Dubinski, and then Montgomery clopberd
Hipkin from behind. The Badger's freshman's going to get the gate.
The Lions are going to get their first power play
of the nights.

Speaker 5 (59:17):
All right, Montgomery, we've seen him take a few hits
at this when he got a Lindywood player from behind
as a puck battle in front of the Lindenwood bench
right where the door opens towards the red line and
hit from behind. Reps are talking a little bit about
it here, waiting to see what the call is. The
linesmen are getting involved as well. Definitely hit from behind.

(59:38):
It was a you're going to do it, presumably not
on purpose, obviously if you're gonna do it in front
of the bench, there there's no glass to crunch on,
so better for the person getting hit.

Speaker 2 (59:51):
Yep, Referees are going to take a look at video
replay to determine whether this should be a five minute
major or not. We'll take a break with the Badgers
leading three nothing, seven to nine to go in the
opening period. This is Badger hockey from Airfield.

Two minute minor, the referee Cam Fleming says against Wisconsin
freshman Blake Montgomery from uh for boarding or checking from behind.
So the Badgers will be shorthanded here for the next

(01:01:32):
couple of minutes. They were perfect on the penalty kill
last night. Six for six they.

Speaker 5 (01:01:36):
Were, and when they got the possession of the fucker,
they got the puck out. It was really hard for
Lennywood to get it back in. Obviously, want to continue
that great penalty kill. That was actually a pretty pivotal call.
I know, it's three nothing, it's kind of almost too
easy so far for Wisconsin. A major versus a minor
penalty that that makes a huge difference in this game.

Speaker 2 (01:01:57):
So Montgomery and the penalty box Badgers send out Aiden Dubinsky,
Joe Polatachuck, Gavin Morrissey and Jack Horbach Mercer running the
left wing seed at the point with more No on
the right flank, southgate the bumper behind the net, in
front of the net. Eventually he will be Drew Kuzma
bouncing puck reaching fort Poladachuck. Kuzma protects it with his
big body. He rims it around now to more No

(01:02:20):
cross ice Mercy. A left wing looking steps in and
is shot off the stick of Poladachuck and out of play.
A good stick by Joe Polatachuck. Joe had an assist
last night in his season debut. Struggled last year with
all sorts of injuries, managed only one point and four
points one goal last season, after an eighteen point freshman campaign.

(01:02:42):
Mike Hastings talked glowingly about Poladachuck and the work he
did this offseason. His goal is to play in the
National Hockey League. He wanted to be healthier, stronger, leaner,
and working with Tommy Inkrod, he certainly has moved closer
to that point. Power play continues now for linnen Wood.
Saboah passed to the right wing, deflected by Wisconsin's Finley,

(01:03:06):
to the stick of Fitzgerald, and now Finley will set
it down in Badger's up three nothing short handed. Here
for another minute fifteen Here.

Speaker 5 (01:03:13):
You talked about Joe Platachuck his freshman year. He started
out gangbusters.

Speaker 6 (01:03:17):
He was so good.

Speaker 5 (01:03:18):
He when the factors got the NCA tournament, he was
one of those guys that stood out too and played
in those big moments and it was definitely disappointing or
unfortunate to see what happened to him last year. And
hopefully healthy this year, I'd have another big season.

Speaker 2 (01:03:32):
Here's Gavin Morrissey across the line short handed with it,
lost it, muffed it, got it back, passed it back
door for Horback, went off of skate behind the net,
and now linden Wood's got the puck. Charles savoaw up ahead,
sent our eyes, leaves it back. Now for Ood he'll
rim it around to the far corner. Dubinski after it
for the Badgers. The outlet up the middle. It eludes

(01:03:53):
the stick of Horbock, and Saboa's got it again for
Lynnon Wood wanted to bump it back to the point instead,
Center's one. Here's Fan Tang missing the net and a
quick shot by Linnenwood's food blocker away I believe by
hausering up out of play boy howser. He came out
and challenged the initial shot on the left wing by Fontaine.

(01:04:15):
He was a foot outside the crease. I had to
scramble back to stop boots drive. Yeah, that was some
wide open ice there for Lynnon went on that play.
It's a nice passing play to the high slot. The
shot missed, as you mentioned, the rebound came right out
and he made he went down. He's small, but he
got his arm up and knocked that puck away with
the blocker and had to play. Lynnwood wins the draw.

(01:04:38):
Badgers still have nineteen seconds left to kill on this penalty,
and Finley gets in the way of the pass and
it deflects to Christian Fitzgerald, and Fitzgerald will dump it
down in with a backhand, and that might do it
for the linden Wood power play if the Badgers can
prevent the breakout. But here comes the fleet footed Connor Jingle,
left handed defenseman up to more no stick kandling looking
is shot off of Jack Falen stick into the protected netting,

(01:05:02):
stopping play with five twenty three to go. Boyton, there
were fifteen seconds on the penalty time when I look
down behind the net and there's fourteen seconds left on
the penalty time right now, and they just went the
length of the ice, so I don't think the clock
is right. There's five h six to go on the clock.
Keith Fisher, actually the Linnenwood coaches pointing up to the clock,

(01:05:26):
and now there's no time on the Wisconsin penalty. Blake
Montgomery has made his way to the Badger's bench, so
the penalty time has expired. The time of the penalty
was twelve fifty one, so at fourteen fifty one now
the penalties expired, but all of a sudden, there were

(01:05:48):
fourteen seconds left on the penalty clock, so the referees
are over to talk to the official scorer and the
clock operator. Badger Hockey brought to you by American Family Insurance,

Speaker 15 (01:06:09):
So.

Speaker 2 (01:06:09):
I know Fitzgerald's first goal assisted by Gavin Morrissey and
Quinn Finley. Osbourne scored from Ryan botterrel and then Fitzgerald
right now is second power play goal, they say unassisted
at eleven forty eight.

Speaker 5 (01:06:25):
Yeah, I'm sure that they'll take a look in between
periods that make sure the scoring. The refs are taking
a look right now to check the clock. I know
according to some folks that the stream maybe isn't working
that well either, So right now video stream right now,
things are a little hiccup in the early here in
the season.

Speaker 6 (01:06:44):
Yeah, Lena would try to get the clock straightened out,
the stream straightened out, and whatever else.

Speaker 2 (01:06:50):
Hopefully our radio signal is crystal clear and our streaming
on the Varsity Network app, which is free. You can
listen anywhere anytime on the Varsity Network app to Wisconsin
hockey and volleyball, football, basketball. But yeah, the referees are
taking a look at a few things right now, trying

(01:07:12):
to get the clock all situated. Hey, while we have time,
we might You know, we've talked about the changes that
have been made in college hockey, certainly when it comes
to recruiting, but the NCAA Men's and Women's Hockey Selection
Committee changed the way that teams make the national tournament
field starting this year. Instead of using the pairwise rankings,
they'll use the NCAA Power Index, a different computer formula

(01:07:34):
the coaches agreed better identify the best teams. And in addition,
the committee ruled that teams no longer need to have
a winning record to qualify for the NCAA tournament. It
all comes down to this NCAA Power Index or the
NPI really not much different from the pairwise other than
if you're not five hundred, or if you're not or
if you're below five hundred, you still got a chance

(01:07:55):
to get in.

Speaker 5 (01:07:57):
I know some of the college hockey people the website
it's Coech Hockey News USCCHO. They took a look and
I think in the last five years all the same
exact teams would have made the Ncatate Tournament. With this
new system, there would have been a couple of adjustments
in the seating of the tournament, but generally the same
teams would have made it, and at five hundred. Rules
interesting because back in two thousand and eight, when the

(01:08:18):
Wisconsin Badgers finished under five hundred and got into the
NCAA tournament, they Hockey changed that rule so you had
to have a winning record to get into the NCAA
tournaments an a large team. Obviously, you could win a
tournament and still get in as an automatic bid. But
now it's going back and putting faith in the computer system,
back to say, if the computer says you're good enough,
then you're good enough. And certain leagues, like you, look

(01:08:40):
at the Big Ten this year or whatever, it feels
like it's pretty stacked.

Speaker 2 (01:08:43):
So if you.

Speaker 5 (01:08:45):
Could finish with a not a great record five hundred
below in your conference, the Big Ten, you might have
your resume might be good enough anyway to get into
the NCAA tournament.

Speaker 2 (01:08:54):
So six of the seven teams of the Big Ten
nationally ranked in the US College Hockey on Line poll.
We've got a delay here at the centeen Community Center
at clock issue Lake Montgomery's penalty appeared to have expired,
but there was still time on the penalty clock. The
clock was down to five oh three. Now it's at

(01:09:14):
five oh eight. The time of Montgomery's penalty was twelve
fifty one. His penalty has expired, so apparently everything's straightened out.
Both teams were at full strength three nothing Wisconsin, by
the way, Fitzgerald's first goal from Morrissey and Finley, Osbourne's
goal from Botteril, and then Fitzgerald's second power play goal

(01:09:34):
assisted by Simon Tassi and Quinn Finley three nothing. Wisconsin
Badgers two for two on the man advantage, one for
one on the penalty kill, and Linnenwood will dump it in.
It bumps off the end boards, right to the right
of goaltender Daniel Houser on his knees. He stops it
with his stick and covers for a face off with
just under five minutes to play.

Speaker 5 (01:09:53):
In the first it's Quinn Finley with a couple of
helpers here early on the power play. I know he
didn't and hit the score sheet yesterday, one of the
top scores back in college hockey this year. I'm sure
he's looking to hit the net with a shot, but
a couple of points gets you part way there.

Speaker 2 (01:10:09):
Seventy fifth career game for fin leaves now got fifty
eight points in his collegiate career. Linden Wood holds the zone.
Shot was off the body of botterl Now Ryan's got
it looking for a leaf bead, lobs at ahead to tass.
He couldn't handle the bouncing puck back out to the
red line and it's fired in by Linnenwood and that
stung the linesman. Gerard Lameruh's holding his right arm and shoulder. Boy,

(01:10:35):
he took that frozen puck right to the right arm.
Here's Finn Brink dropped past. Dubinski is shot into the
bread basket of the goldtender Clayton. Clayton nap and he
hangs on for a face off with four to twenty
one left here in the first it's three to nothing.

Speaker 5 (01:10:51):
Wisconsin hockey players are knowing to be tough for officials. Yeah,
they are knowing to be tough. Also, they take hits
all the time. That one puck was a dump in
pretty had some steam on it. He's kind of dragging
his right arm as he skates it back up in
the ice and back to the blue line doing his job.

Speaker 2 (01:11:09):
A Lamoroue a familiar hockey name. It's probably spent time
in grand Port's North Dakota.

Speaker 6 (01:11:15):
Yeah, there's there's a lot of that view.

Speaker 2 (01:11:17):
Yep.

Speaker 6 (01:11:18):
Few Olympia Winnen's player as a goaltender and more.

Speaker 2 (01:11:22):
Badgers win the face off, failing to Kuchen and Kuchanan
cross eyes and Falan has to take it off the wall.
He'll dump it to the corner. Brink didn't reach it. Instead,
Lindenwood did break out the Fontaine backhand stoop pass for Lockman.
Good play by Shoals with his stick to chop at
Lochman's stick able to take the puck to gain possession,

(01:11:43):
but the Badgers give it right back Mortensen now up
to the red line in Fontaine. It goes airborne about
ten feet, then came down to the ice. Fontaine's got
it again. Hands off to the big left hander Kuzma,
his centering pass taken away by Wisconsin. There is Zillanoff.
Now he tries to dangle the blue line, gains the zone,
flips it back to the left point, tracked down by Wisconsin,

(01:12:04):
and Kuchanin will shovel it deep. Zillan Off after it.
Deck Sheimer back to Zilanoff. Back to deck Seimer, who
walks the line looking straight away. Deck Shimer hits the brakes,
his rister blocked down in front by Mortensen and clear.
Now Yakish Badgers need a change deering on for Zillanoff.
And here comes Yakkish and the defenseman shoots one good
stick by the lanky gearing to knock it out of play.

(01:12:27):
And we've got three nineteen left here in the first
of three nothing Wisconsin advantage.

Speaker 5 (01:12:32):
Wisconsin has been really good with their sticks. This weekend
they've been on the rush with sticks right on the puck.
We're knocking shots into the back netting. We've seen it
on the penalty kill. It's definitely been something of strength
of there this weekend.

Speaker 2 (01:12:49):
Based off to the left of Houser reaching for it,
Lions on the near side, Rego carried into the wall
by Dexzheimer battling for it is deering events lead. Dex
Sheimer tapped it off the plata chuck his outlet pass
behind the intended receiver Montgomery, but horback after it, sending
past to deering, intercepted by linden Wood, and they try

(01:13:10):
to transition, but Montgomery slides over two on one to
our right. Montgomery, with deering, passed a deering good played
defensively but came free. Oh kuchen and no, that was
Henzler denied in tight by Nap. Here comes linden Wood
the other way. So boy slot past Delaney that handcuffed him,
but he took it off the boards and turned and
fired one on goal, and Howser ready for it, made

(01:13:32):
the stop and on on two.

Speaker 5 (01:13:33):
Forty to go in the first three nothing Badgers kind
of that crazy say it by nap he was I
think if both legs are up in the air, sprawled out,
did whatever he could to cover the net, made the save.

Speaker 6 (01:13:45):
Heck of a save, heck of.

Speaker 2 (01:13:46):
A play base off to the left of Daniel Hawser.
He stopped all six linden Wood shots on goals so far.
Four Seed digs in, wins it to Osburne to apps
it back to Felan. Flan now skates into some pressure
but exits it to Morrissey. Gathered in by Osbourne, waddles

(01:14:08):
his way into the offensive zone, flies back behind the net,
turns and looks at the net and tried to go
far side blocker's side, just didn't get it upstairs enough.
His nap made the save and covered. What a fantastic
play by Luke osburn.

Speaker 5 (01:14:21):
On the attack That was wild. He came around the net,
he just stood there. There is no Landywood player anywhere
near him. He had all day to shoot the puck.
He tried to pick a spot and Nat made a
hell of a saying from point blank.

Speaker 2 (01:14:35):
He came around the net and actually turned and squared
his shoulders at the cage and nobody touched him, and
so he was trying to pick a spot, and I
just don't think he got enough of the puck.

Speaker 6 (01:14:45):
There was no en even looking at him. I don't
think other than the goaltender.

Speaker 2 (01:14:49):
Right and Nap has been busy tonight. No time to
take a nap for Clayton Napp. He's stopped sixteen to
the nineteen shots he's face so far. Still two minutes
to go in the Hope ding period. Morrissey knocks the
puck free from Evans, but John Evans the RPI transfer
dumps it in first to it Wisconsin's Osburn flipped it
ahead to Fitzgerald up the middle, now to Falin. Falin

(01:15:11):
skates ahead to the red line, Fal into the blue line,
stick handling around. Mortensen fell down no penalty, able to
release it past to Morrissey. Hard rim around that Deckzheimer
tracks down right side. Now Morrissey lets the puck go
to the far corner in Tassy hits the brakes and
cuts back right. Tassy stick handling behind the net, centering
pass intended for Finley. Mortenson got his stick in the way. Finley, though,

(01:15:33):
goes to get it in the corner, drops it off
for Morrissey and then Finley tackled behind the net by Mortenson.
Neither of the two will get up. The referee finally
blows his whistle and either just to get a face
off or maybe to take both of them off the
ice with one twenty three to go on the first and.

Speaker 6 (01:15:49):
Want of their Hell, that's fell off. The Linwood player's
talent fell off. I think that's what the whistle is for.

Speaker 5 (01:15:54):
Yep, he pointed out, unlike you do sometimes when there's
a penalty, point it and point it at the player
pointed into the bench.

Speaker 6 (01:16:01):
But because he needs to go off with a sound
that coming off.

Speaker 2 (01:16:04):
I was Brody Morton's in. The sophomore from Humboldt, Saskatchewan
base off to the right of Nap talked back out
with Botteril and or Tassy, Shoals and Dexzheimer. The defensive
pair three nothing Wisconsin on top tall Quinn's the draw.
Botterrel goes to get it left corner stick handling forced

(01:16:25):
behind the cage. Botterrel, what's he gonna do? Hands off
Deckzheimer runs to the net. Little betcan shot to night
by Nap. Oh, he just went walking the right goal
line unimpeded, and Nap made the stop and now Lindenwood
lobs it over the point man after it is jingled
the defenseman Wisconsin. Schulz got there first and a nifty
one hand flipped past to Botterrel as Scholes was double

(01:16:49):
teamed on the near wall, and Wisconsin sends it back
the other way. And now linden Would accidentally turned from
behind the net without watching and threw at the length
of the ice, but it never made it to the
Wisconsin goal line. So I sing waved off and the
Badgers we'll try here again. In the final half minute
to add to the lead. Talk in the corner, Botterrel

(01:17:11):
double teamed Couchanen tackled into the far wall by Giovanni
Moore No, and the Badgers will get their third power
play with thirty seconds left in the first.

Speaker 6 (01:17:23):
And Marnell is not happy with that.

Speaker 5 (01:17:25):
Onen Coukanon I think was making a turn and maybe
he was losing his footing already, but moreno in a
bad spot. There stick on the back of kukan in
finish the job for him and Badgers go on another
power play.

Speaker 6 (01:17:38):
They're perfect tonight, two for two.

Speaker 5 (01:17:40):
Christian Fitzgerald, I should say it's perfect on the power
play tonight. The batter's got a chance to add to
a three to nothing lead here in the.

Speaker 2 (01:17:49):
First nineteen twenty nine the time of the penal lea
to Giovanni Moore. Know the Ottawa native cross checking Lindon
Wood won the draw, and we'll set at the length
of the ice. Ex Shimer will go to get it.
Twenty seconds to go on the period, Dexheimer left wing
pass caught by Morrissey gain the red line, now the
blue and a whistle and they'll say Wisconsin off side.

(01:18:10):
They're saying Finley was offside. Quinn's like what but the
line'sman on the far side. Vaughan Upton caught number nineteen
just to step two early and they'll drop the puck
in the neutral.

Speaker 5 (01:18:24):
Zone with fourteen point three seconds to go on the period.
I think this period needs to and there's so much
snow on the ice right now. Is play behind the
net there? Ben Dexheimer try to pick the puck with him.

Speaker 6 (01:18:33):
It stopped.

Speaker 5 (01:18:34):
He put the puck off the ice and it looked
like he was playing on a lake and the snow
flying up from the puck going up the ice.

Speaker 2 (01:18:40):
There were several youth hockey games on this rink here today,
the last of which ended about five minutes to six,
about an hour five minutes or an hour fifteen minutes
before the puck drop for this Division I contest, Fuck
is loocid, Neutral and Dexheimer will get their first nine
seconds left pass it tempt he flubbed, Finley picked it up,
Sales off the stick and into the crowd. Four point

(01:19:04):
six seconds left. Young man thrilled the get to the
puck before his friends could, getting a round of applause
from the fans that are here. Not many again, I'd
say six to seven hundred. Potentially a lot of red
in the building here tonight, a lot more red, especially
on the in the stands that are right below us,

(01:19:26):
to our right and left. Now the referees are chatting
again about something. We've had a couple of delays here tonight,
and now they're going to drop the puck outside the
Lindenwood zone with four point six seconds left. Badgers scored
three last night in one in shutout fashion. They've got
three here tonights, and that's how the first period is

(01:19:48):
going to end, as Lyndenwood won the draw as the
horn sounds. A very productive first period for the Wisconsin Badgers.
Christian Fitzgerald scored on the power play, not once, but twice.
In between defenseman Luke Osburn with his first collegiate goal.
Wisconsin leads Lyndenwood by the score of three to nothing
after one period of play. And more is happening now

(01:20:11):
as the Badgers and the Lions head to their respective
locker rooms. As the referee made some sort of hand
gesture at center and then one spoke with the official score.
Did you see what he did?

Speaker 5 (01:20:22):
He gave the basically the N sports and like conduct symbol.
I don't know who he called it on. I assume
it was Lindenwood. That's the way they came out of
the box. And we're chatting, but it is uh Shols
right now talking to the Lions or the referee to
find out. But there's definitely another penalty called here again.
One of the teams now.

Speaker 2 (01:20:42):
Mike Hastings, who's making his way across the ice, getting
an explanation from the referee, Cam Fleming, and that stopped
Hastings in his tracks. And now he holds his forehead
and now he's saying, come on, Fleming, who did not
work the game last night? Replacing Andy. Bathman is making
an explanation to Hastings, and Hastings is barking back at him. Well,

(01:21:06):
we're headed to the intermission. We'll clear this up when
we come back. The Badgers have a three to nothing

Back in Missouri for the first intermission report draught to
you by American Family Insurance and Sure Carefully Dream Fearlessly
American Family Insurance. Wisconsin. With a three to nothing lead,
Christian Fitzgerald score the first goal of the game like
he did last night, on a power play at five
point fifteen, assisted by Gavin Morrissey and Quinn Finley. Badgers
added to their lead when Luke Osburn scored his first

(01:25:11):
collegiate goal at nine to thirty nine. Ryan Bottrel got
the loan helper on that one, and then the Badgers
got another power play a little after that couple of
minutes later, and Christian FitzGeralds scored again. His third of
the season came at eleven forty eight from Simon Tassi
and Quinn Finley sixteen to six Badgers shots on goal.

(01:25:32):
They have the advantage in that department, Clayton Napp with
thirteen saves and Daniel Hauser a perfect six for six
in the opening period. Badgers so far two for three
on the power play, Lindenwood is zero for one, and
when you look at the faceoffs, Badgers have lost sixteen
of twenty four, although Oliver Tulk is four out of seven.

(01:25:54):
Good first period for the Badgers. And you know last
night they scored one power play goal in four chances.
And they knew linden Wood would be physical again, and
that's what the Lions m o has been here in
the first couple of games of the season. And boy,
you can really sting a team that's maybe a little
too physical by putting the puck in the back of

(01:26:15):
the net when they give you a chance.

Speaker 6 (01:26:16):
For sure, obviously want to make teams pay for when
they they.

Speaker 5 (01:26:20):
Hurt you in that manner. And the Badgers got on
it early and really looked like a somewhat different offensive
team today. They're just rolling around. There's most of the
play has been up the ice. Uh, they've blocked most
of the shots. When Lennon Win's good up down the
rush and see it talked about good sticks and Christian Fitzgerald,
the guy who had a great freshman year in man Cato,

(01:26:43):
been a decent player for Wisconsin the first couple of years,
and but he's he's on a roll here to start
the year.

Speaker 6 (01:26:49):
Three goals. He's found a little spot in for of
the net here. His goals are been.

Speaker 5 (01:26:52):
Right for NetFront presence and uh, he's he's found a
lot of room in the net front because Linnen Win
has been playing. I don't know what they've been playing
that they leave in a lot of space for Wisconsin
and the offensive zone.

Speaker 2 (01:27:05):
They're playing pre bent depense is what they're playing.

Speaker 5 (01:27:07):
Yeah, zone with staying still on the zone and giving
them Badger's room. But they got to still take advantage
and finish on those plays. And they've found a way
to finish three times so far. And you got forty
minutes to go. Keep it going.

Speaker 2 (01:27:21):
Yeah, Fitzgerald shooting fifty percent tonight. He's shot the puck
on goal four times and lit the lamp twice. Badger's

Save money in the NS, Wisconsin with a three to
nothing lead on Lynden Wood here in the first intermission.
Elsewhere in college hockey in the Big Ten, Minnesota has
a three two lead on Michigan Tech early second period

(01:29:31):
at Mariucci Arena. Minnesota had to retool after losing a
lot of fine talent from a year ago, including high
scoring forward Jimmy Snuggerud. Also departing Minnesota Brody Beggar, Pardon,
Oliver Moore, matthew Wood, defenseman Sam Rentel, and Ryan Chesley.

(01:29:52):
But the Gophers bring in a fine freshman class, one
of the highly touted freshman LJ. Mooney has scored again.
Minnesota leads Michigan Tech three to two in the second period.
Michigan on top of third period in ann Arbor, Cole McKinney,
highly touted recruit, gets his first goal in Amazing Blue
and after a six to three win last night for
Penn State, the Nitney Lions are scoreless. Now it's won nothing,

(01:30:15):
Arizona State leading Penn State a second period down in
the desert, so Arizona State on the board, taking the
lead against the Nitney Lions in the second period of play.
The Wisconsin women's hockey team defeated Maine today five nothing,
a second straight five nothing win for the Badgers over

(01:30:36):
the Black Bears. Landy Potter scored twice. David McNaughton thirteen saves.
Mark Johnson's club is four to zero and we'll be
back at Labon Arena next Saturday at eleven am and
Sunday at one pm to play Minnesota Duluth. Also when football,
Wisconsin lost at Michigan today twenty four to ten, and
the Brewers beat up on the Cubs nine three scoring

best of five NLDS Game two at Amfam Field Monday
night at eight pm. Toronto beat the Yankees today ten
to one in their series opener, and it looks like Philadelphia,
which had a three nothing lead, down five to three
to the Dodgers in the seventh inning. Detroit plays at

Me it was warm today, ninety degrees got a chance
to get outside walk around a little bit, because we
all know it'll be wintered before you know it. The
Badgers came in after a three nothing win last night
and jumped on the Lions pretty quickly. They've looked good
in the first twenty minutes.

Speaker 5 (01:34:12):
Yeah, I mean, our offense is much better than last night.
It was a lot I think it was a lot
harder sledding last night. Lannywood came out so much more physical.

Speaker 6 (01:34:20):
Yesterday.

Speaker 5 (01:34:21):
There was big hits kind of put Batters on their
heels a little bit. They took an early penalty tonight
and Batters converted early and it's kind of pushed them
back on their heels this time, and Lendenwood and their
Badgers have them running around their own end and they've
paid for it with three goals allowed.

Speaker 2 (01:34:38):
Badgers had a third power play on the board after
they're starting centerman or top centerman, Gio Bonnie Morena took
a cross checking penalty, but after the horns sounded to
end the first period, the referees gave Simon Tassi a
two minute minor for embellishment. They're keeping an eye on
that a little bit more this season. They will be

(01:35:02):
In fact, they called Jack horback for embellishment last night,
but they called Tassie here tonight. I didn't see you.

Speaker 6 (01:35:08):
What it was explained to you. Yeah, I didn't say
it either.

Speaker 5 (01:35:10):
But according to Luke Regner, or the ops person for Wisconsin,
there was a little bit of a slash one way
across check the other way right at the end of
the period. And he said, yeah, Tassie gave it a
little extra acting job to try to draw attention to
the play and he got called for embellishment. And we've seen,
you know, every year there's emphasis on things. The cynic

(01:35:33):
in me says. This usually starts out for the first five, six,
seven games, and then it slowly dissipates, and sometimes it's
just establishing things.

Speaker 6 (01:35:42):
It guys start doing it that way so there's less calls.

Speaker 5 (01:35:45):
But also sometimes it's just the officiating yep, kind of
getting back.

Speaker 6 (01:35:50):
To the mean.

Speaker 2 (01:35:51):
Yeah, it reverts to what it's been. And I remember
how the you know, stick work up in the hands
and the arms and what have you. That was a
point of emphasis several years ago, and all of a
sudden they're calling penalties for when you're basically using the
blade of your stick and touching the glove of a
hockey player. But that quickly went that pass the board.

Speaker 5 (01:36:15):
That was an NHL thing too, for sure, and that
one actually in the NHL still somewhat carries the day,
at least most of the time.

Speaker 2 (01:36:22):
It does an international hockey too, I should say, But
for whatever reason, in college hockey you can do as
much stick work as you want. We're going to skate
four on four for the first minute and a half
of the second period because of Tassi's embellishment penalty. More
ice for Finley, who flies into the offensive zone on
his backhand, skates behind the net, crawled off the toe
of his stick, but he regathers Quinn. Finley dropped past

(01:36:42):
left side, walking down the wall as Morrissey hits the
brakes of the hash marks and looks he'll bump it
off the wall. Now deck Szeimer carries it to the net,
but cut off by Elias who poked the puck free,
and then linden Wood just flips it cross ice right
through its own slot and tracked down by Jake Southgate.
Snow they's been pressured by Finley, threw it at his

(01:37:03):
own net, got it back with help from Alias and
now Yakish with it forty seconds left from the pedale
to more no and then Lindenwood will get a thirty
second power play. Badger's lead three to nothing. As we
start period number two, buck rimmed around, deflected and all
the way down into the Lindenwood zone. And that's where
Clayton Apple will stop it for his defenseman Connor Jingle

(01:37:25):
out of Northville, Michigan Jingle, the BHL Defenseman of the
Year last year at Sherwood Park. Here's Yakish now former
Madison Capitol tough angled shot that ied by Hauser. Rebound
was there, but Lyons couldn't get to the puck. And
now a Badger trying to clear the zone. Brink got
knocked down, no pedalty, Tulke stick candling loose in the

(01:37:46):
slot and it's taken away by the Lions. Yakish comes
the other way and the right handed defenseman falls to
his knees flips it towards the net. There before it
got to the netminer Hauser was brink, but he couldn't
skate it out to center. Taken back by Hipken and
the Lions will control. They're on a power play here
Badger's on the penalty kill for the second time tonight

(01:38:08):
and the eighth time this weekend. Perfect so far. Only
eight seconds left and Lindenwood has yet to leave its
own zone. Lead feed right side Lockman lob pass fontaint
that can shot stick saved made by Houser. Puck played
by Wisconsin's Plata Chuck out of the box comes Tassy.
He's carried into the wall by Mortensen and Mortensen just

(01:38:28):
keeps shoving him his Tass. He's down underneath the defenseman.
Tassi remains on the ice on his knees, trying to
get up. Lockman trying to jam the puck free from
underneath Tassy, and we finally have a whistle stopping play.
Seventeen forty one to go in the second Wisconsin leads
linden Would three to nothing. Let's pause ten seconds for
station identification, ten seconds for a legal ID. You're listening

(01:38:49):
to Wisconsin Badger.

Speaker 4 (01:38:50):
Hockey Buck Badgers playing here.

Speaker 1 (01:38:54):
This is your All Badger's Sports Station thirteen ten WIBA Madison.

Speaker 2 (01:39:03):
Brian Posak, Paul capobianco here at the senteen Community Center
and Mortensen was just raylan on Tassi as he was
down on his hands his knees with the puck underneath
him inside the Lindenwood zone, and then Lachman came over
trying to jam at free and because Tassy in effect

(01:39:24):
was delaying the game although he wasn't being allowed up
by the two Lindenwood players, they bring the face off
outside the Badger's offensive zone. Long range shot by Nolan
Seed was blocked before it got to the Badger's nets,
and now Grady Deering poles into John Evans lost possession
of the puck. Evans couldn't catch a pass out of

(01:39:45):
his own end and now rego over skates Wisconsin's Blake
Montgomery digging for it. Evans picks up the loose puck.
Long range shot knocked away by Howser to the far
corner after it's silk key left hander onto his backhand
out to the point. Now Seed finds. Evan steps in,
shoots one blocked by Wisconsin's Falen and stick taps on

(01:40:07):
the Badger bench. Phalan's got it leads the bust out
Osburn to the middle of the ice right side Horbock
Ray fades. Osburn got his stick out of stuff made
by Nap and then Horbock trying to retreat the puck
behind the net, trip down Seed and so Lindon would
We'll get another power play and Jack Horback's mouth is
a gape.

Speaker 5 (01:40:30):
Slick play by the Wisconsin on the rush on that
one fuck up the ice. Luke Osburn gets it up
and goes to the net and redirect shot direct redirects
a shot makes Naps sprawl out and split up his
legs to make the first save and the rebound just
sailed right by the net. Wisconsin Uh stayed out of

(01:40:52):
the box that I talked about that last night. Had
to kill six penalties, had been doing a pretty good
job of that today until the end of the last
period and actually took an embellishment and then right now.

Speaker 2 (01:41:03):
Orbod for tripping at three fourteen based off to the
right of Daniel Hauser Orbot, one of the top penalty
killers for the Badgers. Right now, Finley and Fitzgerald on
the ice with Dubinski and plata Chuck centering pass again
didn't get to the Badger's net. They're protecting their house
rather well. Finley digs it free, got it off the
plata Chuck up the middle of Fitzgerald fires it off

(01:41:23):
now to Finley. Bill fan off to his left, wanted
to walk the defenseman gun around see got bumped off balance,
still chipped a shot at Nap, who made the stop. Wow,
what a move by Finley, just misconverting shorthanded.

Speaker 5 (01:41:35):
Yeah, it looked like he thought, well, what the heck,
let's give this a try. Put the fucker on one player,
kind of split it two d that Mercy a got
a stick on his stick first. Look like the play
is broken up, and Finley fought through that still and
got a little flip shot on net.

Speaker 2 (01:41:52):
Base off the NAP's left. Finn Brink will get a
look on the penalty kill with Gavin Morrissey is in
that rotation. Todd Kannatt, the associate head coach, takes care
of the PK and Brink has been among the top
six forwards for the most part. During practice leading up
to the start of the season. Lyndenwood won the draw

(01:42:13):
and they'll come up the middle of the ice. Elias
to the right wing and Fontaine looked like they were offside.
Nothing called backdoor feed goes off the body of Wisconsin's Morrissey.
He got knocked to his knees, been able to chip
the puck to the near corner, and then Wisconsin Zach
Schulz able to clear it down nap playing chicken with
Wisconsin's fin brink and eventually Lindenwood comes out of the

(01:42:34):
zone and will whip it around to the near side
wall Raceler looks above his head as the puck's knocked
down to the corner. Elias now moves it quickly far side.
Here's a tap in front back door to Fontaney scars.
So the Badgers finally scored upon on the pedally kill.
As Fontaine went back door, Charles Savois found him an

(01:42:58):
easy tap in for the freshman Fontaine. It's three to one.

Speaker 5 (01:43:02):
Yeah, I was Zach Shualz on Fontaine going to the net.
He was not happy that he got beat there. The
Badgers kept playing a little bit of wondering if there's
something that happened that made him get there first, but
uh nevertheless, nice pass across the ice, tap end goal
and Leannawide gets their first goal the season.

Speaker 2 (01:43:23):
YEP freshman Luis Felippe Fontayne, who scored thirty goals in
seventy points in the Quebec Maritime Junior Hockey League a
year ago. It's his first at four sixteen on a
power play with Charles Savois, the lone helper. It's three
to one Wisconsin right now, fifteen forty four to go.

(01:43:44):
Nick Oliver has an ear piece in Luke Regner, the
director of hockey Operations, looking at video replay, and he's
in conversation with a Badgers bench Mike Hastings screaming at
the referee, Hey, we want to see if we might
want to take a look at it, and from moment
he thought no, and now they will, and Cam Fleming

(01:44:05):
is now talking one on one with Lynnenwood head coach
Keith Fisher. So Luke Regner sees something upstairs here just
to our rights on video replay that he thinks could
nullify this power play goal by Lynnenwood, and Mike Hastings
very adamantly got the attention of Cam Fleming the referee,

(01:44:28):
and said I want to take a look at video replay.
And now Drew Kuzma, the captain for Lynnenwood, wants to
chat with the two referees, but they move away from
Kuzma now and now Wisconsin captain Ben Deckzheimer comes over
to get an ear end to maybe see what they're
talking about. Now the referees point dex Sheimer to back away.

(01:44:50):
So I'm wondering if did the Badger's bench run out
of time to request a video replay. The puck hadn't
been dropped yet. In fact, players weren't even gathered around
the center circle. There were a few, but not all
of them, and so I'm not sure exactly what's happening here,
but they continue, the referees to talk Anthony Victor and

(01:45:13):
Cam Fleming. On the scoreboard, it says three to one
Wisconsin with a lead. Wisconsin Department of Transportation reminds you
to always drive sober zero in Wisconsin. Together we can
save lives. Get the drive sober app today and Badger
Hockey brought to you by UW Health Sports Medicine, the
healthcare team for the Badgers and proud partner of UW Athletics.

(01:45:34):
Now one of the linesmen has joined the two referees
in discussing how this game should resume, and that linesman
Gerard Lameru is going over to talk with his fellow
A linesman, Von Upton, and now Upton will skate across
to talk to the two referees. Both team captains are
about five feet away from the referees, although Kuzma dropping

(01:45:56):
his left ear down trying to listen to what they
have to say say Now Fisher has the ear of
the linesman Lamarou and Mike Hastings feels left out.

Speaker 5 (01:46:06):
This is this crazy, that's either take a look at it.
You're wasting a couple of minutes here just discussing it.
It looks like they're not going to they're both heading
over to the benches to talk to the coaches.

Speaker 2 (01:46:20):
And Mike Hastings he's got notes in his hand and
he's covering his mouth so that no one could read
his lips as he speaks with the referee Anthony Victor.
And what are they gonna do? Lennon Wood's tapping sticks
on the bench, celebrating its first goal of the season.

(01:46:43):
So apparently the referees are not going to look at
video where youplay and it remains three to one and
Mike Hastings nods affirmatively, okay, and they're going to drop
the puck.

Speaker 6 (01:46:57):
I guess we'll find out after the game. Let's just
have there interesting. It was a unique situation there.

Speaker 2 (01:47:06):
Again, we are not privy to video replay here, so
I'm not sure what the discussion was here. Zilanoff from
the left wing as the pucks seemed harmlessly to move
into the Wisconsin Wisconsin offensive zone, and Zilanoff got to
it quickly and falling away shot one on goal, and
net made the stop.

Speaker 5 (01:47:26):
Almost almost a locking way. Yeah, Coal or a shot
for zilan Off. He made it look like he wasn't
gonna do anything. He got to the puck and fired
it immediately. Zilanoff out there with Couchanon and Botterrel. Badgers
have shuffled their line combinations a little bit because of
the penalties here recently. Puck is out to center is
here's bottle roll with it now rubbed off by Mortensen

(01:47:48):
but taken by Zilanoff passing front, goes off the stick
of another.

Speaker 2 (01:47:51):
Defenseman behind the cage. Kucanon hits the brake's left corner
stick handling behind the net. Wisconsin with a three to
one league coucan and still with possession low left backhand
shot and knap scoops it up and hangs on. Zillanev
was right in front of the blue paint and Botterrel
was coming down the slot. Cooconon doing that all on
his own there, but Nap denied him.

Speaker 5 (01:48:11):
A good job by the Linenwood defenseman to keep cooking
in with his back towards the net. He went one
way behind the neck, came back out the other and decided,
let's see what happens. Put the puck in farre of
the net and see something bounces around it. Nap gloved it,
was well aware of the play and got the whistle.

Speaker 2 (01:48:29):
By the way, Stab Wab and defenseman Ethan Elias get helpers.
Here's a setup by horback from Montgomery pad sad made
by the gold tender Nap, and then a wrap around
attempt by Gearing. Puck crawled off the toe of his
stick and Lyndon Woods more No kicked the puck ahead.
He was stickless, flies into the offensive zone. His shot
from the left wing blocked by the Badgers, but more

(01:48:52):
No retrieves out to the point long range shot stop
made by Houser. He's on his backside. Badgers pick up
the loose buck, but a lot of chuck fires it
out to center and then sent back in by the
Lions who have some juice here.

Speaker 5 (01:49:02):
Paul, that was a close call he made. How has
I made the save, looked a little bit off balance.
The puck draft right to his left pad at the
Badger's got out of the danger.

Speaker 2 (01:49:10):
And now they dump it right back in. Kuzma whipped
it just wide of the nets right wing shot blocked
by Hensler, picked up again by Mercier, and he fired
one through the low slot shut from the left point,
goes off a badger behind the cage. Hensler after it.
Montgomery now has the puck on his stick. He takes
a bump Lindenwood gets it back shut by Elias, stopped

(01:49:32):
by Houser, who got up ended by Kuzma, and now
the Badger's pile on Kuzma and the referees hustle in
to make sure nothing serious happens. Houser was rolling around
to the right of the cage. Hopefully he's okay, he's
up on his skates now. But Kuzma took his skates
from out underneath the Badger's Netminer and Wisconsin's players not

(01:49:55):
happy at all with that.

Speaker 5 (01:49:56):
I was like a wave hitting Kuzma in the corner.
The entire Badger five on the ice went straight to
Kuzam in the corner. Looked like he wouldn't. He didn't
expect anything at first. He kind of spun around head
back to the glass and then got swarmed.

Speaker 2 (01:50:11):
Yep. I like to see that as a hockey club,
goaltenders are untouchable. Kuzma's gonna get the gate, and he's
barking at the referees. But there was no need for
him to do what he did, taking the skates out
from underneath Daniel Hauser. So Wisconsin gets a Cuna's power play,

(01:50:32):
leading three to one.

Speaker 6 (01:50:38):
I just get a chance here.

Speaker 5 (01:50:40):
Two for three other power play We've got three this
weekend we saw Linnon would get one back here to
make it a two goal game.

Speaker 6 (01:50:47):
Together, a chance to try to extend this back out.

Speaker 2 (01:50:51):
Base off Badger's win it. Fitzgerald out to deck Sheimer
at the left point. Finley has it outside the right circle.
Straight away now dex Sheimer left wing, Morris passed between
his legs. He retrieves left circle. Fitzgerald tried to force
a pass to Tassy, went off, his skate picked up
by Zilky, and the linden Wood centerman sends it all
the way down. Kuzma gets the minor penalty at five

(01:51:12):
fifty one. Here comes Wisconsin Finley left wing shot from
the wall off a stick, fluttered wide Badgers hold his zone.
Turnover by Fitzgerald to the stick of Elias and he'll
slowly spin the puck deep into the Wisconsin's own fresh
penalty killers for linden Wood. So Kuzma gets the penalty

(01:51:36):
and Wisconsin's Finley dumps it in around to the right corner.
Tassy able to whack it out to Fitzgerald. Now the
point man deck Seimer left wing Finley Finley looking Morrissey
working the bumper down to the goal line. Pivot by Tassy,
backhand shot went off of Mortenson and went up into
the air off the chest of the goltender Nappy juggled
but hung on.

Speaker 6 (01:51:55):
I think Tassi was trying to head a teammate on
the far side.

Speaker 5 (01:51:58):
And then a pitt in the pad of the goaltender
Nap and then Tassi a little late smack of the
pad with his stick trying to find a loose puck,
and then Litu wit player delayed a little bit. You
can see it coming and gave Tassi a little whack
to say, you hit your goalie, you hit ours, and
we're gonna make sure you feel that too.

Speaker 2 (01:52:19):
By the way, Kuzma's penalty officially slashing at five point
fifty one. Bottero would take the draw to the right
of Nap, picked up by Kuchen and bumps it out
to Osburn, who's running the point on this power play.
Here's Tulk puts it low, pats ain't made by Nap
and the Lions getting up a bit to clear the
center Logan Henzler's been running the second power play for
the Badgers, but they give the freshman Osburn a look

(01:52:40):
here Luke with his first goal as a Badger even
strength in the opening period. Here tonight, Tulk after it
behind the net, got rubbed off, bumped off the boards
by Seed, Silky after it hit by Kuchan, and Seed
tries to clear and it went airborne, then knocked down
with a high stick, stopping play. Thirteen oh eight to
go here in the second period of three v one

(01:53:00):
was content advantage.

Speaker 5 (01:53:02):
We talk about things from one night Game one to
game two last night that Batters had a devil at
of a time getting into the zone on these power
plays when the pucks got cleared. They've been much better here,
especially on this power play, getting the pucks in.

Speaker 6 (01:53:17):
Zone entry has been much better.

Speaker 5 (01:53:18):
They've simplified a little speed quin Finley up the wing
a couple of times, getting the puck around and getting
regaining possession of a dump around the corner.

Speaker 6 (01:53:26):
So Batter has made an adjustment here tonight.

Speaker 2 (01:53:29):
Now the referees back of the scorers table again. I
tell you the timekeeper has had some issues here tonight.
Thirteen oh eight, it says left on the clock. Now
it's at twelve thirty nine. There's thirty nine seconds left
on the Lindenwood penalty, which was at fourteen oh nine,
So that's about right, or is it? Fourteen oh nine

(01:53:53):
was the time bigger part in five point fifty one
the time of the penalty to Kuzma, so it should
have been fourteen oh nine on the about thirty seconds
left on the power play. They have thirty nine right
now left. Badgers will take whatever based off to the
right of hawser one by Linnenwood and the shot blocked
by Fitzgerald burst up speed by Fitzgerald, but he can't

(01:54:15):
get past Mortenson. Badgers hold though Tassy Morrissey Fitzgerald in
front Finley. No, Morrissey picks it up though Badgers hold
his own. On the power play, dex Sheimer's shot wide
off the end boards, taking a whack at it Tassy,
he missed, able to chop it out to Finley, though
twenty seconds to go on the man advantage three one Wisconsin.
Dex Sheimer left wing Morrissey, Morrissey's stick handling, he'll change

(01:54:36):
places with dex Heimer straight away. Morrissey shoots one low,
went off the stick or skate of Mortenson, who tackles
Tassy in front. Badgers hold his own. Fitzgerald puts it
low left. Morrisey fat to Fitzgerald stone No, it hit
the crossbar.

Speaker 11 (01:54:49):
Wow.

Speaker 2 (01:54:50):
Fitzgerald almost with a hat trick, and now Finley fires
blocked it's loose. Tassi after it put it in front
through the wickets of Morrissey. Good hustle by dex Sheimer
to his own and then Fitzgerald wiped out on the
nearest side by the big defenseman Delaney. Behind the net,
Tassy sets up Fitzgerald puck his free Badger score Polanachuck

(01:55:12):
was back door. Fitzgerald tackled from behind. Wisconsin got the
goal even strength. I think it will go to Christian Fitzgerald.
He completes the hat trick. Fitzgerald got crushed at the
blue line, but got up and made his way to
the linden Wood net and hoping to get a feed
from Polana Chuck and put it in. It's four to

(01:55:34):
one Wisconsin.

Speaker 5 (01:55:35):
I have a feeling this is gonna get looked at
by the net. Came off and all that happened. The
ref signaled goal right away, and I think he's sticking
with his gun. They're talking to the two refs. But
Simon Tassy, we've talked about a couple of times where
players have been wide open around the net for Wisconsin.
This time was Tassy behind the net all by himself,
had all day to do.

Speaker 6 (01:55:55):
What he wanted with the puck. Badgers finally headed towards
the netting.

Speaker 5 (01:55:58):
He tried to get it out in front, puck cross
the goal line, and they're definitely getting set up here
to take a look.

Speaker 2 (01:56:04):
My goodness, a lot of delays here in this second period.
Is it four to one or three to one Wisconsin?
The referees are going to take a look. We'll be
back in a moment. This is bat your hockey from Larfield.

Hey, Badger fans, choose chill and celebrate responsibly. Twenty one
means twenty one Coors Light Choose Chill twenty twenty five,
Coors Brewing Company, Golden Colorado. Referees back in the scores
table looking at video replay. Did Christian Fitzgerald just score
his third goal of the game or not? And again,

(01:57:44):
we're not privy to any video replay here at the
Senteen Community Center in Missouri, so we're waiting, you know.
Fits he had a couple of goals last year in
Madison in a thrilling win over the Michigan Wolverines. Is
only two goal game as a bad He has two
here tonight, three for the weekend. Maybe four.

Speaker 6 (01:58:07):
Last Badger's hat trick Quinn Finley.

Speaker 2 (01:58:09):
Yep, they're counted, they're counted. Paul Fitzgerald gets credit for
that hat trick at a twenty two.

Speaker 5 (01:58:19):
And last hat trick was Quinn Finley against Lynnenwood. Yeah,
January twelfth, twenty twenty four.

Speaker 2 (01:58:26):
Wow. Six make that five shots on goal now for
Fitzgerald and he scored three times.

Speaker 6 (01:58:36):
Wow, and all right around the net. Yeah, finding getting
reinforced that that's a good place to be.

Speaker 2 (01:58:45):
It wasn't pretty, you know. Mark Johnson says that all
the time Mike Eaves used to to Tony Grenado, Mike
Hastings will tell you the same thing. You know, seventy
seventy five percent of the goals are scored within five
to ten feet but each cage and boy Fitzgerald has
scored all three of his tonight from the hash marks

(01:59:06):
inside the circles and down too on the power play,
this one on even strength. Right now it's Fitzgerald unassisted
and still the coaches having conversations with the men in stripes,
and this might be getting old for both boss men
on the opposite benches.

Speaker 5 (01:59:27):
These games in the Big Ten have been set up
where there's one break, or there used to be one
break in each period and short intermissions and games are
done in two hours there where we're getting an hour
and a half. He already, we're still got We're not
even halfway to the game.

Speaker 2 (01:59:39):
Yeah, forgot to tell the referees that you and I
have to drive home together tonight. We'd like to get
there before four am or yea. So it was a
seven to ten start, Yeah, icing called on linden Wood
face off coming up. Fitzgerald gets the goal even strength,
his third goal of the night, fourth of the weekend.

(01:59:59):
At eight twenty two and the Badgers get an offensive
zone face off with Zilanoff, Montgomery and Brink on the
ice with Plata, Chuck and Henzler. Zilanoff will take the draw.
He'll be matched up with Kuzma Montgomery between the circles.

(02:00:22):
Brink is to the left of Zilanoff waiting for Lamaru
the linesman to drop it and the pucks deflected behind
the net. Yakush goes to get it for Lindenwood, chipped
at by the contain far side, didn't get it out
of the zone. Second try works lead feed looked like
Lachman was offside and he was for to one Wisconsin

(02:00:45):
eleven seventeen left in the second. Badgers will head back
home tonight. They have an exhibition game Thursday night against
the US Under eighteen team of the Coal Center. That
your tickets at UW Badgers dot com or one eight
hundred Go Badgers. It'll be your first live look at Wisconsin.

(02:01:06):
The game will also be on the radio on the
Badgers Sports Network in the Varsity Network app. Badgers win
the face off lead feed Horbock on side looking backside,
Osburn catches on his backhand, now turns and faces the
net and dumps it in. Now Horbock with it far corner,
working for space deering as he knocked Elias down, still

(02:01:26):
trying to box out to get position in front is
deering Kukan and now with it down the left wing wall,
pinned against the boards by Southgate gearing for support, but
linden would able to tap it free. Tackled was Horbock.
He fell down back out to center. It's Osburn and
he'll pitch fork it ahead. Now get deering. He's rubbed
off trailing though kukanin skates it below the goal line.

(02:01:47):
Elias and Horbock really going at it near the front
of the net, and eventually linden Wood's got the puck.
That's Giovanni Morena. He takes a hit from Horbock as
he threw it out to center, knocked down and poked
in by oz Burn and al linden Wood with possession
ten twenty to go second period of four to one
Wisconsin lead. Three of the four goals scored by senior

(02:02:07):
Christian Fitzgerald passed ahead Horbock for Morrissey a bit out
of his reach. They gave Morrissey and Tassy assists on
Fitzgerald's goal at eight twenty two, second helper of the
night for both Gavin and Simon.

Speaker 5 (02:02:22):
You mentioned earlier he had six goals last year. He
is two thirds of the way to matching that in
the first weekend.

Speaker 2 (02:02:27):
Amazing, and he had seven goals did Fitzgerald his first
year were the Badgers. Here's Delaney now breakout, passed far
side to the defenseman Jingle three on two to our right,
and Savoa tried to pass backside and he fanned on it,

(02:02:47):
lifted his head and his stick at the same time
and went right over the top of the biscuit. Nine
and a half minutes left, second period for to one Wisconsin, Morrissey, Finley,
Fitzgerald out there again and then then Wood able to
fire it down. Morrissey runs into Delaney. Tulk was there too,
a little pushing and shoving. Now Razler across the line

(02:03:08):
and the shot fought off by Auser who hasn't seen
much action here since he was slashed down to the
ice by their captain, Drew Kuzma. Mortenson sets bouncing puck,
just goes wide of the nets. It was deflected in
front and ricocheted to the right of Hauser. Now here's
Yakish holding the zone, poking it free tulk. Badgers can't
get possession to clear. Lennon would turn around shut by

(02:03:31):
Razler on goal and leaning left was Houser. He gloved
it and hung on a for one Wisconsin lead. We
will take a break. I believe, yes, sir, A one
minute time out for to one Badgers eight fifty four
to go on the second. From the Rail Transport broadcast table,
this is Badger hockey from Learfield.

Explore Clearybuilding dot com today for to one Wisconsin lead
eight to fifty four to go, second period, and now
the line'sman at the blue line blows his whistle after
the other line was ready to drop the puck, and
now they'll try again. Paul Capobianco was noticing during the

(02:05:19):
break that the man that runs the clock is also
in charge of the score, and he's also in charge
of stopping play for timeouts. He also gets popcorn and
soda for everybody in the stands. He's doing everything down there.
Here's Tassi behind the net centering Pasco's off. A stick
picked up by tulkis shot blocked. He was inside the
right circle. Tuck got it back and now deck. Sheimer's

(02:05:40):
shot that's blocked by Elias Ricochet. Defontaine up ahead to
the middle. Now Kuzma comes across the line, leaves it off.
Long range shot by Lackman, sticked aside by Hawser off
the high glass held in by Seed. His shot got
through traffic just wide of the nets behind the badger's net.
Now Pullata Chuck cut off. Tassi goes to get it
versus course to deck. Zheimer tries to avoid Lockman, turned

(02:06:03):
it over left wing, now thrown in by Elias. Kuzma
holds here's a shot by Seed blocked by Palada Chuck,
and he'll skate ahead with it right wing passed to Tass.
He gained the red line he needs to change and
that will come with hunder eight minutes to go. Second
period of forour to one Wisconsin advantage Ethan Alias two
years with the Madison Capitol's captain of the twenty three

(02:06:24):
to twenty four Capital squad in front. Chance for Southgate
may have gone off the iron and wide. Now a
pass for Southgate again, it's loosing the slot tumbling over
a badger was Mercia and now zillanoff right wing to
Hensler stops looks behind the cage for Kuchenin came off
the kick plate and there was nap to his left.

(02:06:45):
He put his mit down and covered with seven twenty
nine to go here in this second a for to
one Wisconsin lead referees let things go a little bit
too much last night. This crew here at tonight might
be facing a similar situation.

Speaker 6 (02:07:02):
Yeah, Fen break in the corner there after the play,
Javonnie Marneau complaining of the rest about he kind of
got flattened after the whistle.

Speaker 5 (02:07:12):
Won two beats after but nothing called there and Padger's
got the offensive z own face off.

Speaker 2 (02:07:19):
Still he's zilling off. Buffalo Sabers seventh round draft pick
a couple of years ago with the Green Bay Gamblers.
Last season fourteen goals, thirty three points. He wins the
face off. Linden Wood got it back and Silky taps
off Rego. He'll scoop it past Osburn and chase it
down in the corner. Jammed an it off to Zilkey,
it eludes his sticks. Zilanoff will skate ahead, but turned

(02:07:39):
it over near the Badger blue line. Yakkish now has
it for linden Wood and he'll shovel it down in
around to the left wing walls. Zil enough got a
stick on it, but picked by the defenseman. Long range shot,
easy save hawser Osburn now with a breakout, passed a
Kuchen and he got a piece of it. As it
trickles into the Lindenwood zone. Lions throw it out to
the blue line, leaping six foot five inch Blake Montgomery

(02:08:01):
to hold his own, but the Badgers in the midst
of a change, so Blake was out numbered. Lions have
the puck, and then on the near side the Akus
just got rubbed off by the much larger Montgomery and
gave the puck away.

Speaker 6 (02:08:15):
Rubbed off has a perfect description here, squashed him.

Speaker 2 (02:08:18):
Yea, he squashed a Montgomery setting up hearing he lifted
his head. Otherwise he's opened inside the left d Now
it's Savoir cut off nicely by Zach Schulz. Puck turned
over Horbach on the fly. He shoots one off the
far side post. Oh, he rang that one globe's side
on the goaltender nap. Badgers have hit a couple of

(02:08:38):
pipes here in the period. Still lead four to one.
A fluttering shot by the back pedaling defenseman Delaney missed
the net opposite side too. Jingle missed the cage with
a long range shot. Now put in front, Houser comes
top of his crease and denies a shot by. It
looked like Southgate offentually located the puck in cupboard, and
then one of the Lindenwood players just gave a forearm

(02:09:01):
shiver to Grating Deering and he went down hard. And
now he's pleading with a referee. Hey, what's going on here?
It was Southgate who clobbered Deering, and now the two
are jawn at each other and Deering is veering Southgate's
way before eventually he just heads to the Badger bench.

Speaker 5 (02:09:18):
Big save there by, how's there the fuck? It's kind
of squirted out in front. Lenewitz spun around. He came
right out at the top of a crease as he said,
challenge the shooter. There was no one else around, so
he had that luxury to come out and made the save.

Speaker 2 (02:09:31):
Gio bodymore know to take the draw against Gavin Morrissey
for one Badger six minutes left in the second pencler
will bank it off the glass but not out held
in in a whistle. We've got a hand pass cold
and that will bring the face off outside the Wisconsin zone.
Minards is a proud sponsor of Badger Athletics and reminds

(02:09:51):
everyone to save big money on all your home improvement
needs at Manard's. Christian Fitzgerald with a hat trick here tonight.
Luke Osburn his first goal as a Badger for to one.
Wisconsin Badgers win the face off and send it down
slowly on the goaltender who will paddle it off for
Elias breakout pass off the skate of so Southgate gabled

(02:10:12):
up by more No g O Morena crossed the line
little left handers shot blocked by Paladachuck. He went down.
That must have stung. And then one of the Lions
went hard to the net that Southgate and ran into
the far post and knocked the goal right off its pegs.
I hope that Jake Southgate is okay. He appears to be.
Southgate one of their top returning players five goals twelve

(02:10:36):
points a year ago for number twenty one, although he
seems to be favoring his right leg a little bit.
Fresh players on the ice. With five thirty seven to
go second period for TO one Badgers, they bount chopped
the Lions twenty five to eighteen.

Speaker 5 (02:10:50):
Should be outside the zone here with Southgate going in
in the end and to the Badger end, and Linda
would down three here. But they're pushing back a little bit.
They've spent some time out on the offensive zone here.
Wisconsin controlled, especially the first period.

Speaker 6 (02:11:05):
They were running around Linnenwood's defense, but yeah, rid human nature.

Speaker 28 (02:11:10):
Maybe.

Speaker 2 (02:11:11):
Through the second period, shots on goal are twelve to
nine in favor of Lindenwood. Lions about a couple of
power play chances in this period two and score their
lone goal after Horbock's tripping penalty. Fontaine from Savoa and
the defenseman Ethan Elias Tassie steps in take the face

(02:11:31):
off after Tulk was kicked out of the face off area.
Moderl battling for it, but it found the stick of Jingle,
who will fire it in. The Houser behind the nets
snaps a pass off close quarters to Osburn, who was
able to handle it, but the Badgers can't clear out high.
Fontaine steps towards the slot, wanted to shoot, but Osburn

(02:11:51):
got in his way and the puck comes sliding all
the way back to the Lindenwood zone and Tulk gives
chase against Kuzma, who went in awkwardly into the corner.
He appears to be okay, where's the puck? Botterrel after
it lost it, Delaney picks it up, scoops it out
to center and knocked down by Aidan Dubinski bumps it
back to the stick of jingle Botterrel fell down picked

(02:12:11):
it up though here's a chance Kukanon right side looking
shooting and he whistled it. Why Osburn now boy Kuchanan
was inside the right dock. Golden scoring opportunity for Kyle
Kuchanan you had ten a year ago eighteen is a
freshman at Michigan Tech and between those two seasons only
one goal in an injury plagued sophomore season up in Houghton.
He was hoping for a big senior campaign, the Badgers,

(02:12:34):
hoping for big things from their seniors like Kukanen and
Tassie and Horbach and Christian Fitzgerald, who certainly provided big
things here this weekend. Four twenty to go second period
for to one Badgers in the offensive zone shoals d
to d Fhalen shoots one. Lowess say by nap rebound there,
Yakish picked it up, selling off stick, took down Yakish

(02:12:56):
penalty coming up on Wisconsin. Other power play for the
Lions down three with four to twelve to go on
the second.

Speaker 5 (02:13:04):
That's why you don't want to take for sure the
offensive zone. Just a rebound play. A loose stick ends
up on the skate. Linnenwood knocks player over, easy call
for a trip and Sconsin seemed to get a chance
here to push back a little bit. Not that they
need to push back. They're ugh four to one, but
pushed back at the Linnu and was kind of gaining

(02:13:25):
some offense of his own. Time and get back on
their heels and try to have to kill another penalty here,
last one they had to. Lenno would finally crack them
on their ninth chance of the.

Speaker 2 (02:13:34):
Weekend, tripping on zillanoff at fifteen forty eight's war back.
Morrissey Pullota, Chuck and Dubinski on the penalty kill. They
send out the Lions due Moor No Merciers, Southgate Hipkin
and the point man is Nolan Seed. Here's Mercier stepping
in right side. Didn't get anything ont of the shot

(02:13:55):
kind of flupped it well wide. Morrisey after it able
to jam it free and then went head over heels
over the top of Giovanni more No. Horbot picked up
the loose puck and got it deep and the Badgers
will change their forwards on the PQ. It'll drop it
off now. More No veers off to his right. Fitzgerald
tries to stay with him and pass in front, sliding

(02:14:18):
pat say by Howser rebound southgate. Houser stopped that too
and hung on. Oh what a pass by Mercy a
backside and Houser just followed it from left to right
and made the stop you know, in tight one two
feet what's.

Speaker 5 (02:14:35):
The heck of a pass from the right wing and
to the slot. Lennon would go in tarder to the net.
They scored their first goal opposite side, similar this one.
Just a nice pass in and great contact by Lena
Way to get their stick on that.

Speaker 2 (02:14:49):
Giovanni more No is a fine looking little playmaker young
man from Canadian College. Oh No is actually a sophomore.
After playing as a freshman up in Carlton of the
U Sports Canadian League. Linnenwood power play continues for another
seventy seconds, Fontaine the goal scorer off to Elias at

(02:15:13):
center refeeds Fontaine and he'll dump it in. And then
Fitzgerald just took down one of the Lindenwood players, Razler,
and they're gonna get Fitzgerald for interference. The referee, Cam
Fleming calls Fitzgerald for interference, and so Linnenwood will get
a five on three for sixty one seconds, and Fitzgerald,

(02:15:36):
as he joins zilanoff of the penalty box, has a
smirk on his face.

Speaker 5 (02:15:43):
Well, they won't have a smirk on his face if
Lynnwood capitalizes on this, for sure.

Speaker 2 (02:15:47):
I don't think he's happy with the call obviously, Yes, yeah,
five on three for a minute.

Speaker 5 (02:15:54):
One faceaus important that Lynnwood, again on these power plays,
have gotten possession, and early in this one will ssconsin
wins it for a sec.

Speaker 2 (02:16:04):
Yep, and Dubinski tried to rim around the high glass
and out but got it too high. He sticks shattered
in the process and it went into the seats. Face
offs tonight, Linnenwood's won twenty six of fifty forty five
unofficially twenty six nineteen face off wise, Oftentimes, the home

(02:16:29):
team embellishes those face off numbers, although Paul kafel Bianco's
staff certainly does not do that. At the Coal Center.
Good work by Joe Pladachuk off to draw Mustling through
a couple of Lions four checkers, but eventually more No
gets possession of the puck. Left handed seed more No
one timer stopped by Hauser's head. Now here's Savoah trying

(02:16:50):
to put it in front. Hawser scrambles back to his states,
chipped in front. Sealthke took a swing at it. It
fell in the lap of Howser.

Speaker 5 (02:16:56):
He hung on, look like anyway, try to take advantage
of house areas outside the posts a little bit. The
puck ended up behind the net and they try to
attempt to bank it in off. Howser leaned back and
try to cover up the posts. And then I'm not
sure ex alcoholic got back in front, but he did,
and he was in his pads and Badgers get the whistle.

(02:17:20):
Still thirty's seven seconds left or so on this five
on three kill.

Speaker 2 (02:17:27):
Four bock out again for the Badgers with Falin and
Shoals Badgers only three skaters on the ice. Phalan just
got hooked from behind trying to hard rim it around.
Unable to do so, Linnen would regains possession on the
power play in the offensive zone. Sabuah big left hand
or outside the circle, skates to the middle, puts it
backside more No at the dot, goes far dot now

(02:17:49):
to see refeeds more No one time stop he ah,
he scores. He got it through Houser almost overcommitted. It
looked like he slid outside the near post. As we
look down to our right. That shot by more No
got through a five on three power play goal. It's
a two goal game.

Speaker 5 (02:18:07):
Late second period, Linda would creeping back in here, hanging around.
They definitely were looking for that. Try to get that
goaltender moving and one timer. They went back and forth
with Morenau in that spot to the left of Howser
a couple times.

Speaker 6 (02:18:24):
They tried it.

Speaker 5 (02:18:25):
This time, as you mentioned, it looked like Howser going
a little bit too far over, either squeezed up between
his arm and his body or just outside his right
arm when he was coming to his left. And Linden
would getting back in this game, still in the power.

Speaker 2 (02:18:39):
Play out yep for minute ten, Giovanni Morenau's first goal
as a Lion comes on a power play at seventeen
thirty two, give Nolan Seed the primary assist. Lions will
dump it in to the Wisconsin zone to our right.
Morrissey with it nice outlet to pull outa chuck three
on two short handed Horbock drop pass Morrisey back to

(02:19:01):
horback low right, put it in front, pall out of
Chucks stick lifted though and now the Lions in transition.
Here comes ood across the line Savoir far side. It's
Lochmann and it passed back to the middle of the ice,
is cleared into the Badger's bench, stopping play. One fifty
one to go in the second thirty nine seconds left
on the Lindenwood power play four to two, Wisconsin has
the advantage.

Speaker 5 (02:19:22):
Well executed a three on two on the shorthanded play
by Wisconsin, other than the finish, which is the most
important part, but the trailer down loaded the right pull
out of chuck in front of the net looked like
almost trying to bank it off his stick at that point,
but Lennon with a good defensive play to fact check
and break it out.

Speaker 2 (02:19:41):
Finley and brink out on this penalty kill. Now with
Shoals and Falan Finley taking the face off and the
loose puck picked up by Fink, skates through the low
slot from behind. Southgate able to poke the puck free
for Seed. Now more no right side power play continues
for Lindenwood. Seed shot block, Finley with it, tried to
fire ahead and went off of skate. Fhalan got it

(02:20:02):
though too Brink, who took a shoulder its center and
coughed up the puck, but Finley tried to get it
back and he does. For Mercy. A one on one
with Seed fires a shot into the chest of the goaltender,
who made this stop and then left it off for Mercier.
Five seconds left and the Lindenwood power play. Mornoa A
crossed the line, dropped past Mercier centering pass and Southgate

(02:20:22):
tried to hammer it in one time and he shanked it.
Badgers take it away out of the box comes Fitzgerald.
The pass by Tulka ahead to Fitzgerald out of his reach.
Otherwise Christian would have a breakaway seeking his fourth goal,
and then Fitzgerald and Nap dancing behind the Lindenwood net.
Nap had the puck the goaltender. He faked the little
head shoulder fake to his left and Fitzgerald went to

(02:20:43):
his right, and then he went back to his right,
and Fitzgerald went to his left, and then finally threw
it off the wall, and then linden Wood iced it.

Speaker 6 (02:20:50):
He gave him about five six feet.

Speaker 5 (02:20:52):
He didn't want to get too close to him, and
I get him, get his body on him, and uh
the goaltender out waited Fitzgerald and find the place to betom.

Speaker 2 (02:21:04):
It's almost like he was looking at himself in the mirror.
And every time Matt moved, why Fitzgroden went with him.
It was funny.

Speaker 28 (02:21:11):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (02:21:11):
Face off to the left of Clayton Knapp, who has
not been nearly as busy here in the second period.
He stops sixteen shots in the first. When the Badgers
potted three Sisconsin wins the offensive zone. Face off, dex
Shimmer steps in, shot got blocked, ricocheted of the near side.
Osburn to the corner in talk between his legs to
botterrel his shot off the stick of Mortons and Dexheimer.

(02:21:34):
Reids comes in in front. Here's a chance for talk.
He shot it wide. Tuk feeds it out again one
time blast by Tassy shattered his stick. Bottrell picked up
the loose buck his one timer denied by Nap, out
to center Osburn. Tassy now with it with a fresh stick.
Tassy low right back door. Chance for talk tied up
bad Save Nap had a penalty coming up as Tulk

(02:21:55):
got tackled by Kuzma, and the Badgers will get another
power play hope to add to their four to two
lead and maybe stem some of the linden Wood momentum.

Speaker 5 (02:22:05):
Tolk on that play, I had his basically a stick
choked up. He had both hands down load to try
to finish that off and fight through the Kuzma check.
Got the puck on net. Great stay by Nap had
his pad down and just held the puck out. But
then Kuzma some reason complaining, he took a big whack
and knocked you have Toulk down with a two hander
right in front of the referee. The Badgers again. We

(02:22:29):
got four power play goals in this game so far,
two for each team, and Badders try to take a
three to two power play goal lead. Linnon would two
for five on the man advantage, the Badgers two for four. Morrissey, Fitzgerald, Finley,
Tassy and dex Sheimer the top power playing in and
out for Mike Hasting squad. The two minute minor to
Kuzma comes at nineteen fifty. Badgers win the face off

(02:22:50):
dex Sheimer left side. Finley thought about a one timer
back to dex Shimer straight away left side. Morrissey back
pedals back to dex Sheimer. Reefeeds Morrissey at the dot.
Time winding down. Eight second shot by dex Shimmer, block
by Zilki. Dex Shimer retrieves Finley four seconds dex Shimer two.

Speaker 2 (02:23:05):
Morrissey slot. Oh, Fitzgerald stone by Nap and the horn sounds.
Oh my goodness. Fitzgerald in the bumper spot between the circles,
one timer just before the horn and Nap with a
fantastic stop. It's a four to two Wisconsin lead after
two periods of play.

Speaker 5 (02:23:26):
Wow, Wow is right. You could hear the Badger Ben's yelling.
Eight seconds shoot the puck, shoot, the pocket went around.
It looked like they're gonna run out of time, but
quick pass left wing and then slot to Christian Fitzgerald,
who's looking for his fourth goal of the game, fifth
of the weekend say by Nap and the buzzer sounded goodness.

Speaker 2 (02:23:45):
So the Badgers scored once in that second period, the
Lions twice. After two. It's Wisconsin four and Lindenwood two.

Ve ad back here in Missouri, Wisconsin with a four
to two lead after two periods of play. Good to
see Tim Davison, his fiance Taylor, and Luke Davison, the
former Saint Norbert hockey player who's doing quite well after

(02:27:34):
some very scary health issues. The Davison's great family. And
cool to see Tim who now lives down here in
Saint Louis and works with that Aiden Cavallini in their
financial business. So good to see those guys. Kyle McClelland
Saint Louis Area Natives is also in attendance here today.
It's fun all that there have been some pretty good
badgers that have come out of this town.

Speaker 5 (02:27:55):
There has You look at the lobby of this place,
there's a sign up that says Saint Louis and Jelly.
You see Luke Kunnan, you see John Ramage who we
saw the other day. You see Trent Frederick spelled wrong
on the wall. But three big time Saint Louis guys.
I mean, the list is incredible. The Ka Chucks are
from this area. All the old NHL Saint Louis Blues
that kind of stuck around and got something going here.

(02:28:18):
Potla Fontaine was on It was the first name on
there from nineteen eighty three eighty four in a Saint
Louis area guy who is one of the best Americans
all time, for sure.

Speaker 2 (02:28:28):
Oh yeah, so Michael Davies. Can't forget about Michael Davies, right,
he was pretty good one.

Speaker 6 (02:28:33):
He was pretty good for the Badgers.

Speaker 2 (02:28:34):
Yes, But kena Webster too, her former Wisconsin Badger then
with Ohio State. She's featured on a neural up here
in this hockey rink too. A lot of great Saint
Louis area players. How was a wild second period?

Speaker 15 (02:28:48):
You?

Speaker 6 (02:28:48):
Okay, it was a wild second period.

Speaker 5 (02:28:50):
I'm okay, it's four to two, Wisconsin is still up,
but yeah, they can once looked like, Linda, we got
that second goal. Wisconsin look like they mean it was
only two and a half minutes. But they now woke
back up a little bit. It was a pretty easy
first period, three nothing. It just seemed like Lennon Wood
was running all over the place and it looked like easy.
It was going to be an easy game for Wisconsin.
But made it four one, and it looked like it

(02:29:11):
was going to get easy again. But Lynnwood's pushed back
out a couple of power play goals get back in
this game in the third period, two goal game.

Speaker 6 (02:29:19):
You gotta keep playing, yeah.

Speaker 2 (02:29:20):
In that second period, Wisconsin had a three to nothing
lead after one, and then Louis Philippe Fontayne scored on
a power play from Charles Sevois and defenseman Ethanlias at
four to sixteen, Fontaine's first goal as a Lion, first
goal of the season for lynnon Wood, it was three
to one. Badgers got that one back shortly after power
play had expired, Fitzgerald able to jam another puck passed

(02:29:44):
goaltender Clayton Knapp. Gavin Morrissey and Simon Tassi credited with
assists at eight twenty two for Fitzgerald, his first collegiate
hat trick. He also has four goals this weekend that
put Wisconsin up four to one, but then a series
of penalties, first on Kuzma for slashing, but then later

(02:30:04):
Zillanov took a tripping penalty at fifteen forty eight. Fitzgerald
took an interference penalty about a minute later that gave
linden Wood of five on three, and Geo Moreno scored
on that five on three power play at seventeen thirty
two from Nolan Seed and Savoir, first goal for Moreno
to make it four to two. That's where we end

(02:30:25):
the second period. Shots on gold in that period eighteen
thirteen in favor of Lyndon Wood. Clayton n App stopped
twelve shots in that period. Of the Lions netman miner
has twenty five saves. Daniel Hauser made sixteen stops in
that second period for a two period total of twenty two.
The story in that second period, besides the penalties, the
Badgers took the goal tending of Daniel Hauser.

Speaker 5 (02:30:46):
Yeah, I mean he made twenty two stops yesterday in
three periods. That almost had twenty two stops in the
second period, right. He was definitely a little busier that period,
working the legs back and forth. I would like to
have maybe one of those back, although a one timer
on a power play is pretty tough, but he maybe
overplayed at a tiny bet. But getting a little bit

(02:31:08):
extra work in today, and he's probably gonna have to
be good in the third period because Lennon would turned
it up a little bit and I'm making a push.

Speaker 2 (02:31:16):
Yeah, both teams right now, two for five on the
power play, but the Badgers will have a minute fifty
of power play hockey when the third period begins. Badgers
have a four to two lead over Lyndon Wood after
two periods of play, and we'll be back here in
ninety seconds. This is Badger hockey from Learfield.

Badger's with a four lead here against Lyndon Wood, looking
for a season opening sweep. Elsewhere in Merriuchi Arena, Minnesota
is trailing Michigan Tech with four make that three point
fifty one to play. The Huskies with a four to
three lead. Bill mccult in his first season at Houghton
after spending one year at Lyndenwood, the former Michigan assistant

(02:34:22):
now coaching at Michigan Tech. They have the lead last
night going into the third and then the Gophers score
four to win it here tonight, Tech holding on to
a four to three lead at Meriuchi Arena. Also, Michigan
finished off a sweep of Mercy Hurst, winning seven to
nothing tonight. Will Horkoff, who had a natural hat trick
last night, scored two more goals tonight for the Wolverines,

(02:34:44):
and former Wisconsin bacher Cruz Lucius with the go ahead goal.
Arizona State leads Penn State two to one in the
third period of play. All the hype about the Nitney Lyons.
I will say this though about Penn State. They can
score and score quickly multiple they can score a lot quickly.

Speaker 6 (02:35:03):
I mean they've always been able to score a lot.

Speaker 5 (02:35:05):
But then they have some pretty talented, big name guys
with Aiden Fink and Gavin McKenna, Dimarcico and others. But
tonight none of those guys are on the score sheet
so far. In the third period, Nicholas chin De grays
with a short handed goal for Dentny Lyons and the
third period to make it a one goal game.

Speaker 2 (02:35:24):
Also, the Wisconsin women won against Maine again today five
nothing for a second straight day. Laney Potter scored twice
as the Badgers improved to four to zero. The Wisconsin
football team lost at Michigan twenty four to ten, and
the baseball playoffs in the Divisional Series round, and the
Brewers at am VAM Field beat the Cubs nine three,

(02:35:46):
scored six times in the first so Milwaukee with a
one nothing lead in that best of five series game
two Monday night at eight pm. Here are the Badgers
going for a sweep and lead Lindon would foward to
two the third period. It's coming up in two minutes.
This is bad your hockey from their field.

At sent Team Community Center and Missouri both teams back
on the ice, Wisconsin with a four to two league
Christian Fitzgerald with a hat trick tonight, He's got twenty
more minutes to play. If you're wondering who was the
last player to score four goals? In a game for
the Wisconsin Badgers. Well, actually, four players have done it

(02:38:51):
in program history. Bert de Hate, Mike Meeker, and Mark
Johnson all scored five goals in a game. The only
player to score exactly four in a game Ryan McMurchy
against Saint Cloud State January of two thousand and five,
though not the only one Beggar part. The last one
to score four goals in a game was Ryan mcmurschy

(02:39:12):
in two thousand and five. In fact, Ryan beat the
Huskies single handedly, four to two. Yeah, there are a
number of four goal scorers, aren't there in Wisconsin hockey history?
There are.

Speaker 5 (02:39:23):
Mark Johnson also did it, and addition to his five goals,
Bert de Hate did it more than a few times.

Speaker 2 (02:39:29):
Tom French was the first to do it. Rod Lishinsky,
Ron Lishinsky did it a couple of times, Raymond Clegg,
Mark Fitzgerald no relation to Christian, Bert de Hate, Bob
Poffenroth de Hate did it a handful of times. It
looks like Murray Heatley, Pat Lannon, Gary Winchester did it twice.
Dave pay Norm Cherry, Mike Eves scored four in a

(02:39:50):
game against Vermont in seventy four. Mark Johnson, Rod Roman,
Chuck Scott Lacy, John Newberry, Tony Grenado in December of
nineteen eighty four four against Northeastern scored four goals. Steve Tuttle,
Chris Tansel did it against North Dakota in nineteen eighty eight,
Blaine Moore in ninety three against CC, and Ryan mcmurtchey

(02:40:10):
the last to do it in January of five. But
Kristin needs another to get four. He'll gladly take the win.
It's ay four to two Wisconsin lead. They start the
third period with a power play for a minute fifty
or so. Here's Tassy tried to dump it in, ran
into traffic. Fitzgerald able to pick it up, and the
Badgers have it back in their own zone. Top power

(02:40:33):
play unit out for Mike Hastings squad Dex Sheimer will
skate up to center and he'll hand off the Morrissey
now to Finley, who gains the zone. Finley shoots one
low nap Say rebound there pushed out aside, and then
Fitzgerald put his stick along the boards trying to hold
the zone, unable to do so. When it slides back
Wisconsin's way, here comes Dex Sheimer. Now he'll drop back

(02:40:54):
to No. One in particular Badger's. Like so many hockey
teams now pretty much every pro hockey team, you try
to work your power play entries by dropping off, gaining
speeding going little miscommunication there, but the Badgeries do have
the puck in the offensive zone. Now left wing Morrissey,
dex Sheimer at the point, walks in, shoots one blocked

(02:41:16):
ricochet to the corner. After it goes ood hard Rimber
round but not out. Finley in position to hold it.
His pass to Tassie bounced over his stick. Ud Will
try to backhand it out, but dex Sheimer blocked it down,
held his own past to Fitzgerald, tapped off. Morrissey back
to Finley. One timer and he scores a rocket by
Quinn Finley. He lights the lamp on of power play,

(02:41:38):
his first of the year. It's five to two. That
was a laser from Finley.

Speaker 5 (02:41:45):
Always say Quinn Finley here this weekend. He's missing net
a couple times. That time. He got his calibration right
on his shot and put that right in the corner.
Laser at the goaltender was still on his way over
from the right to the left and the Badgers get
the third power player of the night.

Speaker 6 (02:42:04):
Power play goal should.

Speaker 2 (02:42:05):
Say Quinn Finley twenty goals scored a year ago now
at junior and man. Yeah, he didn't miss the net.
He may have put a hole through the net. Here's
silky with a chance two on three, but a good
back check by Plata Chuck freeing the puck for Hensler
and the Badgers turn to the rights and in transition

(02:42:26):
Botty roll will dump it in bumps it off the
wall for himself. His backhand flip shot off his stick
reaching forth the goaltender nap went off the webbing of
his glove. Badger's able to hold his own. And now
a chance for Kukonen. Oh, he just shot it wide.
He was in ty Kyle's had a couple of chances today,
Badger's pick it up.

Speaker 5 (02:42:43):
He missed it at a couple times on those chances,
like I was talking about Quinn Finley earlier.

Speaker 2 (02:42:47):
Yeah, Kuchen and now wheels behind the net, still with
possession low left back on his backhand. Now tucks one
towards the cage. It went off a stick and trickles
to the near wall. The Badgers. Hensler pinching down the boards,
able to hold his own, but he loses it and
now it's a two on one for Savoa. Stick candling
topel shooting one fought off by Howser. A bucker saint

(02:43:08):
made by Daniel Howser. Nice move by Charles Savouan the
two on one, but Howser up to the task. Five
to two, Wisconsin with a lead.

Speaker 5 (02:43:19):
Oliver Tolk I think was one of the forward covering
up the point there and Sevoay went by him first
to create the two on one and then made another
nice move.

Speaker 2 (02:43:28):
Yeah, when Finley again with his first goal of the game.
Third power play goalie night now for Wisconsin Badgers. With possession,
Grady Deering tries to snake through a couple of lions,
but it's picked up now by Razler. For Lindon Wood,
he stopped at the blue line by Osbourne and the
Badgers dump it back in.

Speaker 5 (02:43:47):
By the way, you talked about Quinn Finley scoring. A
guy who scored twenty goals last year wants to score goals,
didn't score last night.

Speaker 6 (02:43:53):
We're in the third period of night.

Speaker 5 (02:43:54):
He finally gets his first goal of the year, and
he does the whole monkey off the back sympole where
we're second game, end of the season.

Speaker 2 (02:44:02):
Yep, here's Tassy now tried to flip it out of
the defensive zone, unable to do so, and the Badger's
back to get it. Osbourne turns and looks, snaps off
the pass caught by Brink Brank, hits the brakes of
the left hash marks with Elias on him, hands off
to zillan Off, walks around one man back door pass.
Here's a chance. Tassy scores oh ziling off with a

(02:44:25):
beautiful move left wing and then look backside and Tassi
was alone and he back handed at home and the
Badgers are up six to two.

Speaker 5 (02:44:34):
Tassi just coming in from behind the goal, came out,
looks up, pucks on a stick, just taps it back,
flips it up over the goaltender, hits about the same
spot of the net that Quinn Fainley just did on
the one timer, with about sixty seventy miles an hour slower,
and the Badgers doesn't matter. It still counts the same
six two Badgers exactly.

Speaker 2 (02:44:55):
So Tassi taally's his first of the year. Finley the
same tonight so with the same with Luke Osburn, the
Badgers have shot two shots on goal in this period
and both have gone in. It's a six to two Wisconsin.
Lee Tassy stays with Fincoln's in and off Tassy left corner,

(02:45:16):
left wall, walks to the corner, now behind the net,
bumped off balance a bit, standing and looking try to
put it in front, and actually threw it off the
defense beIN yakish and now Hipken will bank it off
the glass and all the way down that'll be icing
on Lindenwood. With sixteen fourteen to go in the third
period of the Badgers, now up four. It was down
to two after two, but the Badgers get a power

(02:45:38):
play goal from Finley at one seventeen an even strength
goal from Tassi at three twenty five.

Speaker 6 (02:45:47):
Anyway, push back in the second period. More than pushback.

Speaker 5 (02:45:50):
They had eighteen shots on goal, got a couple in
the net, made it a two goal game, and after
a first period they looked like they didn't know what
they're doing.

Speaker 6 (02:45:58):
A little bit get back on track here in the third.

Speaker 2 (02:46:02):
A lot of chucks sets up Finley for a one
time a out high that got through and Nap made
this stop puck ricochet to the corner and then Fitzgerald
battling for position, knocked into the goaltender Clayton Knapp. Nap
went down and Fitzgerald pushed into the gold center because
he was crosschecked. They're saying by Tyler Lockman. Lockman will

(02:46:25):
go to the Nope, that's Mortensen, the Defnchman will go
to the box at three point fifty three and the
Badgers get another cunest power play.

Speaker 5 (02:46:35):
The refs have called those this weekend for sure, those
cross checks around the net. There's a lot of physical contact,
generally speaking, but they've been on top of ball teams
doing those.

Speaker 2 (02:46:50):
So cross check on Lockman off the draw, Finley with
a quick snapshot between the circles, and Nap with a
stop and the Lion's able to clear bex Sheimer with
a puck as he skates up the ice to center ice.
He'll drop it off Morrissey right up the middle. Morrissey
left hand pass, left wing Finley, Finley looking slot off

(02:47:10):
the skate of Tassi and Ricochets all the way down.
Tassi was filling the lane that time, and the pass
just bit behind him. Bex Sheimer goes to get it.
Here come the Badgers again, leading six to two Morrissey
right wing. Tassi tried to feed Morrissey again, but Kuzma
intercepted and the Lions captain sends it all the way down.

(02:47:30):
Badgers will change their power play unit. Hensler looks over
his left shoulder. Kuzma right there with a little token
pressure on the pk Hensler with talk botterrel kukanin and
Dubinski talk works his way into the offensive zone nifty
and taps it back to the left point in Dubinski.
Here's Hensler now Dubinski one time shot, just missed the
near side post, trying to go where the goaltender came from,

(02:47:53):
sliding left to right. Dowalo kuchenin talk straightaway Hensler's drive.
He missed the cage off the end boards, turn around
stuff to tempt by Kuchen and just pushed it wide
with a man in front of him. And now the
puck deflex into the groud, stopping play. Fourteen fifty one
to go in the third is six to two.

Speaker 6 (02:48:10):
Wisconsin advantage hasn't been that big of a factor this weekend,
but we saw Thursday how bouncy the boards are in
the corners.

Speaker 5 (02:48:18):
Pucks would get thrown in the corner. They come out
to the slot. This one, when Hensler missed the net.
It bounced slowly but straight back out into the slot
right to clear space. Battles in front, and the puck
just kind of was laying there for a sec.

Speaker 2 (02:48:33):
Ensler has the puck after an offensive zone face off
win Tulk now right wing back to Hensler. One time
drives stop by nap. It carams to the corner. Dubinski
retrieves back to Hensler straight away fumbled it for a moment,
now hands off to Tulk. Oliver Tulk, Hensler far wing.
It's Dubinski. They change places. Dubinski stick handling off to Tulk.

(02:48:56):
Tulk thought about passing back to the point man in.
Dubinski gets some from Botterrel, but Dubinsky mishandles it the
blue line. So the Badgers have to touch up and
in the process get the puck back, and they do.
Here's talk with it is the power play times winding
down open mans Botterrels sets in Fire's block, loose puck
clear heared all the way down on Howser. It bounces

(02:49:16):
on the Badger's goaltender. He made this stop. Lennon would
back to full strength Wisconsin three for six on the
power play. Now is the Lions able to kill that
one off? It's a six to two Wisconsin lead, thirteen
point fifty left. In the third, linnin Wood picks up
the puck Zilky with it stick Candling shoveled it off
far side to rego, never got a shot on goal,
actually lifted it off off the glass behind the net.

(02:49:39):
In transition, Montgomery lost the puck. Badgers waited the blue line.
Now tap back to Osborne. The Badgers scored three times
in the first, once in the second so far, twice
here in the third, and now Nap grabs the puck
and a face off to come with thirteen and a
half minutes left. Hey Badger fans, if you're listening to
this right now, it's time for a reward. Re word

(02:50:00):
your full time fandom with an ice cold Medello Modello brood.
For full time Badger.

Speaker 6 (02:50:06):
Fans, it's called Blake Montgomery's name.

Speaker 5 (02:50:09):
There's been much special teams in the last between the
Linnenwood having a five on three towards the end of
the second period and the Badger power place here the third.

Speaker 6 (02:50:19):
Some of these guys haven't seen much action right.

Speaker 2 (02:50:23):
Deering's out there with Horbach and Montgomery, Phalen and Osburn
at the blue line and Deering winds the face off
and it's mishandled at the blue line again, this time
by Phalan, so we has to hustle back at neutral ice.
Montgomery falls down, Phalan holds his ground. Puck pops in
the air at center and brought down by horboch across

(02:50:43):
the line. Got hooked from behind, lost possession of the puck.
Horbock falls down. Where is the puck? It's loose near
side and Deering will fling it around. Badgers come out
of there with it. Osburn a balance now right point
straight away Montgomery, he'll push one down low got through
stop made by nap. Deering had the puck out his stick,

(02:51:05):
and now a whistle and a penalty coming up on
the Wisconsin Badgers. Deering is shoving Fontaine to get to
the bock. Hornback has put his hand his left hand
up into his face mask, wondering if there may be
some blood, but it is going to be on linden
Wood as Horback had his mask lifted a little bit,
and Badgers get another cute in his power play, looking

(02:51:26):
to add to their six to two lead. As Delaney,
we'll get the penalty at seven o five.

Speaker 6 (02:51:32):
I think de Laney got called for a hook in
front of the net.

Speaker 5 (02:51:34):
Happened a bit before. It was probably fifteen to twenty
seconds earlier. Badgers had puck possession for a while to
the right of the goaltender. A hook knocked one of
the Baggers over, and the ref right in front of
him put his arm up immediately and another power.

Speaker 2 (02:51:49):
Player Tassie, Morrissey, Finley, dex Sheimer, and Fitzgerald Christian scored
three tonight. Tassy and Finley each have one. Dex Sheimer
won on one. He'll feed off right wing to Finley,
back to Dexheimer at the point. Morrissey down alow Tassie
setting up Fitzgerald, pushed it on goal and kicked out

(02:52:09):
by Nap. Beautiful passing play on that power play, but
Nap that time kicked it out. Here's Dexheimer with speed
up the middle. He comes through the center circle, right
wing Tassie. He glides into the offensive zone, stops with
some snow. Pushed it off now to Fitzgerald straight away.
Finley thought about shooting Morrissey left wing point now dex

(02:52:30):
Shimer right side Finley Fitzgerald looking for some rooms. Now
Tassie standing straight up in front of the goal center.
Pass intended for Fitzgerald, deflected to the corner. Tassy knocked
a man down. Puck free to Finley Quinn right side
dex Himer. He steps in, may have grazed the outside
of the post and now it's thrown all the way
down by Lyndenwood at eleven fifty to go on the third,

(02:52:52):
still fifty five seconds left on this Badger's power play,
leading six to two.

Speaker 5 (02:52:56):
Badgers are moving the pucker out on that power play
at will pretty much. I think you mentioned dex Simmery
heard a little ding on that shot on the outside
of the post on his attempt.

Speaker 2 (02:53:07):
Here's Dubinski now for Wisconsin. Hensler goes far wing Tulk
pass and headed for Kuchanin deflected, Kyle able to pull
it free. Tulk's got it again, cross eyes Dubinski straightaway.
Hensler catches passes left side Tulk outside the circle. Talk
now moves to the slot. Fires won that ricocheted Wy

(02:53:28):
still twenty seconds to go on the man advantage. Hensler
with it. Badgers up six too after a series sweep,
Kuchanon shot that's blocked by Mortensen. Tulk goes to get
it off to Kuchenin now Hensler five seconds to go
on the power play. Dubinski back to Hensler one time
or too high, shot it off the glass behind the nets.
Kuchanan now with it. Kukanon left wing. Tulk at the dot,

(02:53:51):
shoots one and he whistled it wide out of the box.
Comes the defenseman Delaney, and he'll chase it down on
the Wisconsin zoning from a tight angle. He fired, went
off the face mask of the goltender Hauser who made
the stop. Badger's officially three for seven on the power
play and leads six to two with ten and a
half minutes to play.

Speaker 5 (02:54:12):
No lack of communication there by the goldtender Hauser. He
was banging his stick for five seconds even after the
penalty was over. For Lindenwood, he was making sure his
teammates knew there was a guy there and you being
to make sure you protect my front of my net.

Speaker 2 (02:54:28):
As intended for Finn Brink off a stick or two
all the way down to the Lindenwood zone. Horbock throwing
his body around, but the Lions get to the puck
and outlet to Southgate, who's got a step bailing catches
up right wing shot wide, Horbock chops it ahead. Brink
trying to get around more No, he's battling for it.
The line'sman in, a referee in the way, and eventually

(02:54:49):
Lindenwood comes out of there with it up ahead. The
pass got through to more No. Stick handling nicely, slot off,
balanced shot that missed the net. Set up in front
now from behind the cage. Shot never got Southgate was
tied up. Look out to the point. Long range shot
right into the midsection of Daniel Hauser, who made this
stop in Hongak time out on the ice. Nine thirty

(02:55:10):
nine left on the third. Wisconsin leeds Lindenwood six to two.

some old names like Ryland Moseley now playing with Cleveland
and the American Hockey League, Owen Lindmark with San Diego

and Daniel Lotch with Wilkesbury Scranton in the AHL as well.
William Gramma has transferred to Northern Michigan, Sawyer Shuldeman, Cato

like a fun place to be and Owen Mellenbacher transferred

Michigan tonight will update the scoreboard later. Another penalty has
been called on Lindenwood. Nolan Seed will get the gate

(02:57:09):
at the ten thirty four mark. Badger's getting a lot
of power play practice here tonight.

Speaker 5 (02:57:13):
PAUM Special Teams Weekend Fair of all teams, a thirteen
power play of the game where the teams come by.
And this is a little bit of old school. You
don't see that too much these days, especially the Big Ten.
But yeah, I mean it's early season. You want to
get some work in, and you're getting it in.

Speaker 2 (02:57:31):
Yeah, these are not Big Ten officials. Face off was
dropped and then they blew the whistle quickly. They'll do
it again to the rights of Clayton Napp. They have
backup goaltender Colin Ronan available as well as freshman Liam
Bierman Or Berman from Marquette, Michigan played for the Dubuke

(02:57:55):
Fighting States. It was good too, but Keith Fisher has
stayed with Clayton naff lynnon Wood wins the face off
and clears it all the way down. Badger's go to
get it. The number one unit back out there. Here's
deck Sheimer with it. He'll drop it back to Finley,
this time up the middle. He comes to Morrissey right wing,
Tassie stops, sends it down to the corner. It eventually
reaches Finley in the left corner. Now to Morrissey. He'll

(02:58:17):
jamm along the kickplate to Tassi. Back to Morrissey behind
the nets, he'll flip it backhand pass intended for Finley.
Not much on it though, and clear it out by
Olivia oud h o u dee Olivia Olivia ood from
Levis Quebec. Here's Morrissey leaves it off, Tassy finds and open.

(02:58:40):
Fitzgerald darts to his left, down to the goal line,
put it through the blue paint, ricocheted off the skate
of Morrissey and cleared again by lynnon Wood. Look like
FITZI was trying to set up Gavin for a one timer,
but I passed a little bit too hot to handle.
Here's Hensler now with Bottla, Dubinsky, Tulkien, Kuchenen Badrew's on side,

(02:59:01):
will wind it around and it deflects out to center
and they'll try again. Hensler lazy drop pass that tulk
was able to chase down, works his way down the
right wing wall, scoops it around far side botterl empty
net goal for Ryan last night to seal Wisconsin's three
nothing victory, and now a man goes down. Tulk fell

(02:59:25):
down with some assistance from one of the Lindenwood defenders, Mortensen,
and the Lions able to clear his power play not
nearly as effective, only twenty seconds left in the man advantage.
Wisconsin leads six to two, trying to start the season
two to zero. Hensler passed for Kukonen a bit too far,
but Hensler there to pick up the loose change bounces

(02:59:47):
out to Dubinski. He puts his shoulder into Kuzma, but
comes out through neutral though, and the Badger's unable to
converts on their eighth power play chance three for eight,
leading six to two with seven twenty to go. Now
Kukanin will heave it down deep and take a hit
in the prospect this process from Drew Kuzma. But Kukanin
comes back, picks up the puck and takes a hitting

(03:00:09):
the process from Drew Kuzma, and now kukana will go

so that time on Southgate as he flew into the
offensive zone.

stopping thirty four shots in the first period up For Northern,
Michigan wisconsin's record for most saves in a. Period Kirk

dobbinspeck stopped twenty six shots in a game In january
of nineteen ninety seven Against Minnesota Duluth Terry kleisinger had
twenty five saves Against minnesota in a. Period back in
nineteen EIGHTY i think about.

Speaker 5 (03:09:02):
It the record for saves in a game at one
point was seventy five By Kirk. Dobbins back in an
overtime game Against Kara. College regulation, Game Daniel hauser faced
seventy and made sixty five. Saves and that game Against
Kara college was a triple overtime.

Speaker 2 (03:09:21):
Game, right and Now William gramma does. That, yes, yeah that's.
Amazing that is three zero one to play face off
in the Linden Wood. Zone badgers on their way to
being two to zero with a long homestand coming up
THE Us under eighteen team and Then Minnesota state for two,

(03:09:43):
games and Then alaska for two, games and Then Minnesota

to his left looking shooting and that puck comes up
and out of. Play with two twenty two to go
forty three to thirty shots on goal in favor of The,
badgers we have a six to two. Advantage interesting schedules

(03:10:28):

Up play a, series and then you take a week
an exhibition week against THE us national team development programs
under eighteen, team which is always a fun game seeing
the stars of tomorrow basically some of the greats that have.

a while Since wisconsin has had games with nine power plays.

Speaker 2 (03:11:37):
In it seventeen fifty six the hooking penalty On. Elias
this Is wisconsin's fifth straight power play After linden would
converted on that five on three to make it a
four to two game late in the second, period but
The badgers have scored twice to push the advantage up
to four goals and would of another if at all.

(03:12:01):
Possible one of his NAP's teammates collides with him knocks
The goldtender down after he had paddled the puck to the.
Corner badgers have the. Puck It's Plata chuck running the
point With Osburn Finn brink out there With Jack horbach
And Grady deering in. Front but they're Saying deering is
in the blue paint in the crease as he's trying

(03:12:21):
to take the eyes away From Clayton knapp and so
the face off will come outside the. Zone deering was
just standing in front of The goldtener but got his
skates too far into the blue paint and kicked him.
Out at Least Mike castings is calling off the. Dogs
if this Was Penn, state Guy gadowski would throw his
top unit out, again as he did a number of
times Against. Wisconsin seen it been there kind.

Speaker 6 (03:12:43):
OF i wondered About Grady dearing on that. One he
looked like he was off the close to the. Goaltender
he looked like he was playing.

Speaker 5 (03:12:48):
Gold and he did sit there for a, while look,
around look down at his feet to see where he actually,
was And i'm sure probably.

out and Tripped poladachuck. Down no penalty. Called poladachuck maintained
possession of the buck, somehow and now Here's osburn at
the blue. Line he waddles his way, in looks at

(03:13:18):

right to the left. Side, Bounce you heard the clunk
of the padding in the back along the ice And.

Speaker 6 (03:14:01):

(03:14:25):
in On, delaney takes the puck away and fires a
laser at the. Nightminder nap knocked it. Away kuchanin's got it.
Back he works to the, slot wants to shoot it
again and just wide buy a foot on the blocker
side Of. Nap ZeLing off working Against, Southgate botterrel pulls it.
Free The badgers sophomore forward turns and a pass or

(03:14:46):
