Here's the voice of Badger Hockey, Brian Posik.
Speaker 3 (00:58):
When the pair of the Badgers and Minnesota State Wisconsin
home white uniforms, red pants and sleeves, helmets Wisconsin diagonally
down the chest. Minnesota State comes to town and purple
uniforms with the yellow trim around the belt, numerals and
names on the back, and a lot of Mavericks fans

Usually you only see a spattering of the visiting team fans,
but I'm telling you there's probably one section. If you
added all the three sections across the way together, it's
probably one section full of them.
Speaker 3 (01:44):
Right off the face off, Jack Fahaling carried it right
by the Minnesota State bench and Sawyer's shoal checked him
into the dasher right by head coach Luke Strand. Badgers
have the puck in the offensive zone two ur left
back behind the net as Mason Wheeler, left handed defenseman,
flipped out two center. He's batted down by Jack Falan
who now collects snaps off of past cross ice to
(02:05):
Oliver Tulk.
Speaker 5 (02:06):
He's pressured a bit by.
Speaker 3 (02:07):
Reed Morrick and now back with a puck as Ben
deck Sheimer behind his own net. Thirty seconds in Wisconsin
and Minnesota State Badgers two and oho to start the season.
Here's Christian Fitzgerald across the line ran into the linesman
looked like Riley Bowles got in his way. Finley in
on the foe check, but a free exit now for
Minnesota State's Alex Zetterberg left winger on the top line
(02:31):
with Tristan Lemir on the right and Luigi benning Kaza
the centerman. He's one of their top res turning scorers.
Benikaza from Edmonton at a fair es State transfer, long
range shot out high by the defenseman Murr waffled away
by Houser. Rebound attempt by benning Kaza. He pushed it wide.
Murr's got it again at the right point, swings it
left side now to Jacob Conrad. Conrad tried to shoot
(02:53):
that was deflected. The Badgers now control. Morrisy whips it
around the boards and collected by Quinn Finley. He's patient
with a puck is the Badger's possession. The Madricks get
a change about a minute and a half in no score.
Speaker 5 (03:06):
Oh Gavin Morrissey, I think spent more time behind the
net controlling the puck as a center iceman than either
of the defenseman.
Speaker 3 (03:13):
Did Osburna had to do Binski that Jack Horback didn't
get much of it to get it deep, but he
takes it off the wall right wing, skates down low
goal line, right back behind the net, knocked off balance,
went to a knee, back up on his skates, getting
some support from Blake Montgomery, one of the freshmen on
this line with Vassili's Zillanoff. Zilanoff gives chase behind the
Mavericks net. It's loose. Montgomery chops at it, knocked away
(03:36):
by the defenseman rylan Bonkowski, sent out towards center ice
and taken there by the Badgers in a turnover. Here's
a chance now for Minnesota State taking Hawser. Stop the puck.
Where is it? It's Underneathan. A breakaway by I Simosa
denied by Howser early.
Speaker 5 (03:51):
On interesting Phalen, who I thought was relatively playing, relatively consistent,
just made a bad pass, and there was the Minnesota
player was right between him and his partner, and he
just laid it on his stick and his partner had
no opportunity at that point in time to turn around.
And I felt sorry for dex Sheimer because he couldn't
(04:13):
catch him.
Speaker 3 (04:14):
He and Samosa a couple of assists last weekend at Omaha.
Spent two years at Western Michigan, played only twelve games
and then transferred to Minnesota States. He is Simosa the
second line right wing with Jack Smith and Charlie Lurry.
And now they have their third line out with Liam
Watkins centering. And here's the defenseman Campbell. Campbell psychos he
(04:37):
mishandles at the Wisconsin line goes down Badger's two on two,
two on one.
Speaker 5 (04:41):
Here's a man.
Speaker 3 (04:42):
Ready to shoot. That was Falan. It was denied by
Tracy backdoor was e John fal And elected to shoot
instead Tracy with a big stop. So the Goltenders put
up big stops back to back, scoreless. Here about two
and a half minutes gone by. I think he made
the right decision.
Speaker 5 (04:56):
I think if that pass could have been intercepted, at
least he got to shot on net and there was
a rebound available.
Speaker 3 (05:02):
Pallata chuck to center, deflected by Grady Deering, freshman centerman
on the fourth line with E John and senior Kyle Kuchenan.
Minnesota State exits its own zone up to neutral ice.
A lot of chuck got in the way of the centerman,
Jacob Stender. Badgers now have it behind the nets. Oliver
tulk Off to Hensler little backhand flipped the pallata chuck
(05:23):
tape to tape to Ryan Bottrel cuts middle of the ice,
snaps one off in and out of the glove of
Tracy chipped to the far wall hard to the net,
went Tulk. He got taken down by Morrik. Badgers are
going to get a power play here as the Mavericks
control the puck, whistle stops play three sixteen in the
Badgers get a cutest power play looking to take the
early leave.
Speaker 5 (05:42):
Not that I would ever feel sorry for a visiting
team member who took a penalty, but that was nowhere
near the puck. I mean they were twenty feet away
from the puck and the man Cato defenseman just turned
around and clipped his feet right out from underneath of him.
Speaker 3 (05:57):
Say interference on reed more at three sixteen. So the
Badgers on the man advantage so far in the regular
season five out of thirteen. Man Catro gave up two
power play goals and eight tries against against Omaha last weekend.
So the top line out there on this power play Morrissey,
(06:18):
Fitzgerald and Finley with Simon Tassy playing around the blue
paint and Ben deck Sheimer the quarterback had the puck,
goes to the corner. Tassy, engaged with psychos, gets some
support from Fitzgerald and Morrissey. He backhands it out to
the left point in deck. Sheimer refeeds Morrissey left circle.
You're the hash marks feeds it back to deck. Sheimer
right side. Finley catches and looks. Finley still looking not
(06:41):
at the net, tried to snap one through traffic. It
was deflected twice. Morrissey able to gain control Badger's hold
Deck Shimer left wing.
Speaker 5 (06:49):
Morrissey, you will shoot.
Speaker 3 (06:50):
It's blocked and cleared out of harm's way by Minnesota
State's Jacob Stender.
Speaker 5 (06:57):
A few words between Badger forwards and man Cato defenseman
during this power play. We'll see if that he falls
into anything.
Speaker 3 (07:04):
Dex Sheimer stick handles into the offensive zone and turn
it over. Taken back by Minnesota State's Jack Smith. Left
handed forward shoots one on the rush off the stick
of Morrisy up into the protective netting, stopping play.
Speaker 5 (07:16):
Minnesota State.
Speaker 3 (07:17):
We'll get an offensive zone face off short handed here
scoreless four to oh four into the opening period. Glad
you could join us here on the Badgers Sports Network.
Would always be nice to see you out here at
the rink. These teams meeting, and tomorrow night at seven o'clock.
Speaker 5 (07:30):
Yeah, Friday night football will be a conflict for the
high schools in the area. That'll be the case. The Brewers,
it's Dodgers Sursday night, and then the Brewer game, it's
like whoa.
Speaker 3 (07:40):
Yeah, Badgers win the defensive zone face off and kuchen
And will jump it in off of stick. Tracy steps
to his left, put it on the stick of Wisconsin's
hard rushing for Checker and Ryan Motterrell, though mishandled and
Minnesota State able to fire it over the leaping Oliver
Tulkien all the way down, still fifty seconds left on
the back Drew Cunans power play. I mentioned five for
(08:02):
thirteen in the series at Lennon Wood a couple of
weeks ago, went four for nine on that Saturday night
in a seven to two victory. Backs I passed e
John stopped Tracy rebound. Was there Bennet at bay Kukadin
cleared out of Harm's way. Set ahead. Now Stender will
try to chase it down, but Hensler oh, he hover skate.
Stender picks it up his shot off a stick in
flutters over the outstretched glove of Daniel Hauser. Badgers have
(08:23):
possession again. Twenty five seconds to go in the power play,
scoreless here five minutes gone.
Speaker 5 (08:28):
By Night shut off the pass by e John. It
was that was a perfect setup. E John.
Speaker 3 (08:33):
Couple of goals against the US national program last Thursday
Nights Badger's whipping around the boards. Louke Osborn plays a
deep Fitzgerald goes down in a heap. Psych goes there,
knock Fitzgerald off balance. He gains controlled back by Finley,
Stone Bike Tracy. He went post to post and got
his left pillow outs here it's loose now in the
slot off the stick of Fitzgerald. Then Finley too. Minnesota
(08:55):
State kills off the Wisconsin power play scoreless five and
a half minute. It's gone by here at the Coal
Center between Wisconsin and Minnesota State.
Speaker 5 (09:04):
Well, except for the last probably twenty five seconds, the
Badgers had good opportunities, but that last shot off the
pass by Quinn Finley was the best opportunity that they had.
Speaker 3 (09:15):
Finley twenty goals a year ago, eight on the power play,
first team All Big ten. Finley expecting a big junior
campaign elected to return to Wisconsin rather than turn pro.
The third round draft choice of the New York don't
too many men on now whistle and too many men
on the ice YEP against Minnesota States.
Speaker 5 (09:32):
Played the pucko and the backside defenseman had already been replaced,
and he came out on the ice, but he didn't
get off the ice and fast enough. So it'll be
second Badger power play too many men on the ice
and it comes at I got a look now three
fifty five. Sorry, no, it comes in that it comes
(09:54):
at five five. Sorry. It's like you've never been around
a hockey rank before you I've been doing my Jethrow
Bodeen math not not carry the knot.
Speaker 3 (10:04):
Base off to the right of Alex Tracy, second team
West All American a year ago and the CCHA Player
of the Year. Fantastic numbers for the Mike Richter Award
finalist a one forty two goals against a nine to
two save percentage. The Badgers have Morrissey, Fitzgerald, Finley Tassy
and dex Sheimer face off won by the Badgers, but
(10:27):
it's too far out of the reach of dex Sheimer,
forcing him back to neutral ice. And the Badgers will
back pedal into their own end and come ahead with
it left wing pass. Morrissey chipped it off the wall
to Findley, got tackled in his pursuit for the puck.
No pedalty called, and then man Cato hammers it around
over the head of Fitzgerald had all the way down and.
Speaker 5 (10:45):
Again, like Kappa was saying, when your games at Linden
would having trouble getting into the zone.
Speaker 3 (10:53):
Yep, just this zone entry on the power play, dex
Shimer knocked down as he came across the line. The
Badgers again forced out beyond the blue line. They'll have
to regroup and at twenty to go on this man advantage,
Christian Fitzgerald four goals in the opening weekend against Lennon Wood,
just coughed it up. Jack Smith has it now one
on one with deck shimber work slot shouting off the
cranium of the goaltender hauseran out of play.
Speaker 5 (11:15):
There is no flow coming into the zone. When you
have two people standing at the blue line waiting for
a pass or a chip pass and you're not giving
it to them, there's no flow coming into the zone.
And man Kato's just building a wall four across and
anything that goes by, they're just taking.
Speaker 3 (11:31):
Him base off the houser's right. He stopped all four
Minnesota State shots on goals so far. Alex Tracy has
done the same against against Wisconsin. Oliver Tulk out there
four years stand out in the Western League Major Junior
hockey with Calgary. The Hitmen averaged over a point per
game in his four seasons there, had one hundred and
(11:52):
nine points in seventy six games last year, six best
in the league in scoring. In a first team All
Star Batterrell gains the zone nicely due Bruno Ejhon controlling
right side snaps off the pass to the left dot
off the skate tracked down by Tulk to the goal line.
He goes and kuchenan fifty seconds left on the man advantage.
They tried to force a pass Tulk to Bottrel. He
(12:13):
was defended at ricochet Torch to Minnesota State net Tracy
covered a little pushing and sholling after the whistle, and
we'll just play on five on four here for another
forty eight seconds.
Speaker 5 (12:23):
No score here in Madison. Well, now that they're in
the zone, the second unit will go back off, but
even the second unit had trouble coming in. If it
wouldn't have been for Ryan Botterill's stick handling ability, he
ended up stickhandling through two or three people. And when
you're on the power play, the philosophy has always just
outmanned them two to one. But the Badgers haven't found
that thread yet.
Speaker 3 (12:44):
No Morrisse and Fitzgerald, Finley, Tassy and Deck Szheimer's stay.
Morrissein Warren during the face off against Jack Smith Senior
from Saint Cloud, Minnesota, a Minnesota Duluth transfer played ninety
two games in three years, said UMD did Smith. They
had off the draw, dex Sheimer fired one wide the
(13:05):
glove side of Tracy Karen off the end boards. Tassie
trying to retrieve. Dex Sheimer's got it, rink wide, Morrissey
top of the left circle, back to dex Sheimer, straight away,
right wing his finley, his shot block and at Caram's
back out to Morrissey.
Speaker 5 (13:18):
Morrisey's got it.
Speaker 3 (13:19):
Twenty nine seconds on the man advantage, still scoreless, Finley
cross ice again to Morrissey, handcuffed him, tried to catch
it on his backhand. Puck bounces off the back of
the net taken by Smith and he'll two hand it
all the way down. Only fifteen seconds left on the
Badger's cunes power play.
Speaker 5 (13:34):
One more good rush, at least get a shot on
net with this fourth group or a second group.
Speaker 3 (13:38):
Excuse me, here's Osburn now with Deering, Dubinski on the
right corback across the line, pressured a bit, Montgomery comes
to help ricochet's off of body or two. Montgomery spins
away from trouble. Minnesota State back at full strength after
Jacob Bonkowski served that bench minor for too many men
on the ice, buck to flex in the near corner.
Deering leans in on the defenseman loose puck go off
(14:01):
the stick of Horback trying to protect. Walking into the
net was daring. He shot one short side and Tracy
kept it out and then lift it up over the
glass ouch and out of play. Everybody appears to be
all right. Eleven forty five to go in the opening
period here at the Cole Center, Wisconsin and Minnesota State
are scoreless. The Badgers zero for two on the power play,
and we will take a one minute break back. In
(14:23):
one minute. This is Badger hockey. Oh wait a minute,
are we gonna do it or not. Nope, referee say
wait a minute, because the puck was cleared over the glass.
They have the wherewithal to continue play, drop the puck
and new big ten rule. Now there are immediate timeouts
under thirteen minutes on the clock and under seven. There's
eleven forty five right now, but the officials have the
(14:45):
prerogative to just play on if the puck is cleared
over the glass. So zilling Off will face off against
Jacob Stender. Ziling Off freshman from Russia, Buffalo Sabers seventh
round draft pick a couple of years ago. Tyson Dick
on the eye selling off out to the point Henzler
to Pulata Chuck left wing. Tyson Dick. Dick did not
play a healthy scratch in the series against Lyndon Woods
(15:08):
up selling off from one knee, fired at high good
scoring chance for the Badgers. Here's Dick puck off his stick.
He retrieves it now in the corner. Find ziling Off
top of the right circle. Tried to stick handle through traffic,
lost possession, lobbed all the way back Wisconsin's way, and
Poladachuck gives Chase five shots on goal for the Badgers
so far have yet to put one behind the All
(15:29):
American goaltender Alex Tracy. Nifty stick handling, moved by zilling
Off at neutral ice, able to sweep it down in
the left corner, helping Tassy. Tassy tied up, taken by
Ian Simosa. He fires it through center ice and all
the way down. Icing has been called on Minnesota State
and we will keep it right here. Hey Badger fans,
(15:50):
if you're listening to this right now, it's time for
a reward. Reward your full time fandom with an ice
cold Medello modello brewed for full time Badger fan. Beautiful
day in the Capital City. Colors are turning. It's beautiful
outside right now. We're talking about rain on Saturday for
(16:13):
the football game, but maybe that'll hold off.
Speaker 5 (16:15):
That would be nice.
Speaker 3 (16:16):
Badris win the offensive zone face off, Tulk was down,
caught up, passed it to the point dex Sheimer slot
shot off the right knee of Tracy, Gathered back by
dex Sheimer, forced to pass to the left circle and
intercepted by Somosa and he's got the puck. Takes a
hit from Tulk. Badger's get it back at center You
don't think Oliver tulk At five to eighty one seventy
(16:36):
four can pack a punch. But he hit Simosa pretty
hard there, and Somosa sixty three to two oh five
compact almost knocked him off his skates. Here's Dubinski now
to Osburn. Osburn, the defensive player of the year in
the USHL last year with the Youngstown Phantom, jumps it
down in pressuring out near the point. Heaves it off
(16:58):
the glass around to the right wing. Badgers have had
a lot of possession in the offensive zone, only six
shots on goal. However, Tracy's been impressive early on. So's
Daniel Hauser on Wisconsin's side. Here's Fitzgerald on Pyke, snapshot
off balance, missed it blockers side on. Tracy hit the glass,
chopped at but held in by Osburn off the body
of one of the defenseman's psychos. He lifts it back
(17:20):
out to neutral. There's Osburn and he'll refeed the zone.
Tracy behind the net, STAPs it with a paddle of
his stick. Psychos headman off the body of Tristan Lemere
and he'll chase it down. Finds Ben at Gaza far side,
quick shot blocked, picked back up by Zeneterber and then
he had it pulled away from him. But the Badgers
(17:41):
turn it over. Here's mer now faked a shot sliding
in front Fitzgerald. Murr turns and shoots from the slot,
blocked another attempt by Benning Gaza went off his stick.
And how Grady Deering has it for the Badgers and
Fitzgerald will try to settle things down. Dubinski pressured a bit.
Minnesota State's pretty aggressive on its fort check so far,
ye are.
Speaker 5 (18:00):
And the other thing about it is once they get it,
they know where they're going. It's not just all I
got to look up and take a look. Everybody knows
where they're supposed to be. Once the turnovers.
Speaker 3 (18:09):
Created, horbock in in the corner gets his nose dirty
and then eventually played away from him and back to
neutral ice. Joe Polata chuck with it. Had man passed
for deering? Did he make contact apparently? Or horback beat
the Mavericks to the hash marks and that may be
the instance there Now Deering tied up behind the net
by Jacob Conrad, whose dad Monty, won three national championships

at Udo Steven's Point back in late eighties early nineties
saw Matty and his daughter Brianna prior to the game.
Good to see Monty Conrad. Anytime you can talk pointer hockey, Well,
gotta feel good more blue gold hockey.
Speaker 5 (18:44):
Well you get into a situation where I remember when
they carried Manty off the ice.
Speaker 3 (18:49):
Oh, you can get into that stretcher. Here's Montgomery lost it,
taken back by Hensler, turnaround shot, not much on it,
intercepted by Conrad out to center ice. There's Hensler cutting
off a man and then one of the Badgers wiped
out Sawyer shoal. That'll be a two minute monor on
Jack Korbach and the Badgers will be shorthanded when we
come back scoreless. Hey to wait to go on the
(19:09):
first Missus Badger hockey from their field.

on the first period that Jack Horbach just tripped down
Sawyer's shoul so Minnesota State on a power play for
the next two minutes five to fourteen. Last weekend at
(20:39):
O mah four power play goals on Saturday in ten
tries in a long range shot by Rylan Bonkowski right
handed defenseman right in the bread basket of Daniel Hauser,
who hangs on for a face off. Five seconds clicked
off that power play clock and a face off to
the left of the Badger's net lighting.
Speaker 5 (20:57):
It'd be interesting to see how their power play go
with all these new players. It may take a while
for the system to work.
Speaker 3 (21:03):
In good stick by Fitzgerald on a cross ice pass
Conrad intended for Alex Zetterberg, but Minnesota State regains control
of the puck. Rylan Bonkowski from Richmond, British Columbia, played
junior hockey and try sitting his brother Jacob on this
squad from Minnesota State as well. Mavericks, stumping in Houser
(21:25):
behind his net, rimmed it around but not strongly enough
to Clear's. Ediberg held the wall. It's back behind the cage.
Dubinsky reaches Ford instead. Zetterberg's got it again out to
the point now Bonkowski farside, one time blast missing the net.
A rocket from Tristan Lemire gathered in by Zetterberg go
line right, little right hander muffed the puck got pinned
against the boards by Plata Chuck. That allowed his teammate
(21:47):
Dubinski to whip it around and out. One minute to
go on the Minnesota State power play no score seven
oh eight remaining in the opening period.
Speaker 5 (21:55):
Well, they've you know, with Joe and Bladichuck and Duvinski
out there, kind of switched up the pears, especially for
penalty killing. They compliment each other very well.
Speaker 3 (22:05):
Falan and deck Seim are out there on the PK
defensively with Fitzgerald and Finley right now. Falan after the puck.
The big right hander gets there first and clinks it
off the glass back out to neutral ice thirty five
seconds to go in the Mavericks power play. Wisconsin gave
up two power play goals on eleven tries against in
that Lindenwood series two weeks ago. Both of those goals
came on that Saturday night when the Badgers won seven
(22:27):
to two. One of them was a five on three
Badger steal. The puck Pallata Chuck will heave it all
the way down off the end boards and there's Tracy
to paddle it to the corner. Fifteen seconds to go
in the man advantage. Finley needs a break as he
pinned it against the kick plate for a little while.
Finley will get a change now is deering out on
the PK with Morrissey and Minnesota state content back in
(22:48):
its own zone, lead feed for Psychos to Moric too
far and he iced it so on the last few
seconds of the man advantage, Psychos ice is it and
the Badgers get an offensive zone face off with Jack
Horbach set the spring out of the pedaly box.
Speaker 5 (23:03):
Apparently their power play is anemic in the first period,
just like the Patchers was. No, they didn't really get
anything set up. They did have better success coming into
the zone than Bucky did yep, but the fact of
the matter being is that there were no real quality
scoring opportunities on either power play.
Speaker 3 (23:22):
You're zelling off to take the draw against Stender. Stender
wanted to. Psychos banked it off the end boards for Wheeler.
Horbock out of the penalty box. Wisconsin back at full
strength up the middle of the ice, more catches near
side Stender. He teased one up and waffled away by
Daniel Hauser. Saved number six for Hauser here tonight. That's
(23:43):
what I like about Hawser.
Speaker 5 (23:44):
That play, if he would have dropped it down in
front of him, would have caused chaos, but instead waffle
it off to a less dangerous area out high left.
Speaker 3 (23:53):
Wheeler the captain tried to shoot Horbach got in his way.
Stender now centers one off the stick of Hawser ricochet
off the body of Horbach, who braces for a hit,
released an outlet past to Montgomery. Skates to the center
circle right wings in and off. Wanted to refeed Montgomery.
That went off a stick blake though tracks it down
big left hander out to the left point. Here's Horbox
(24:13):
shot a riser that hit Morrick and a fell to
the ice. Looks like Warwick got stung a little bit
in the right arm. Osburn nifty stick handling sauce pass
right side. Kuchenon immediately pressured by Wheeler and forced him
the far boards. He said, huh, looked like Kukanan almost
dug it free for his teammate. Now Luke Osburn took
down shoal near the Minnesota State bench. The fans across
(24:36):
the way and the Mavericks bench wanted a penalty. Nothing
called we've got a whistle and a stoppage in play.
That was looked like Ousburn interfered, right, I was about
as obvious as it could be. But nothing cold, and
we've got a stoppage in play. Four fifty nine to
go in the first still scoreless between Wisconsin and Minnesota State.
This is Badger hockey from Learfield.

in the cole center of the Badgers and the Minnesota
State Mavericks are scoreless, little under five minutes left in
(26:21):
the opening period of play. Tassy, Bottrel Tolk out there
the forward line. Minnesota State handles the puck in traffic.
Liam Hupka, extra defenseman on the line chart for Luke
Strand's club. Out there. Badgers don't now possess the puck,
although Tassy didn't watch it all the way to his
stick and hopped over his blade, and Minnesota State picked
it up and sent it back in, So the Badgers
(26:42):
will try again to break out Tassy giving support to Dexheimer.
Dex Sheimer now with the puck. He's jousting with one
of the players, Lamir from Minnesota State. Badger's struggling to
get out, finally whacked out by Tassy, but back to Lemir,
who gave it right to dex Sheimer, who almost gave
it back to Lamie, but dex Sheimer turns left, comes across.
Speaker 5 (27:02):
The line right wing side.
Speaker 3 (27:03):
Bottrel had a quick shot by Dexheimer, almost beat Tracy,
but he blocked it off to the near side.
Speaker 5 (27:09):
Keeps playing like that, he'll get more than one goal
this year.
Speaker 3 (27:12):
Dex Sheimer only one a year ago after scoring five
as a sophomore Badger's team captain.
Speaker 5 (27:18):
Oh man, I he just kind of looks at me
and grins.
Speaker 12 (27:22):
Oh.
Speaker 5 (27:22):
Here he is playing the top of the umbrella in
the power play and he had one goal.
Speaker 3 (27:26):
Yeah, exactly. Well. The Badgers as a defensive corps last
year combined for only nine goals from the decorps. That's
not a lot. On the rush, shoal backhand pass in
front intended for his line made Stender, he was defended
by Hensler. Here's Stinley with speed getting around one man
trying to cut towards the net. Instead peels back right circle,
(27:47):
finds Osburn. He shoots at He just missed the far
post from.
Speaker 5 (27:51):
The left ring.
Speaker 3 (27:51):
Luke Osburn, now a pastor Devins on a games, defended
Sawyer's should with a step on Dubinski. The Badger's defender
able to catch up, forcing shoulder stop and sweep it in.
Speaker 5 (28:02):
That's the second blue line pass that's resulted in a
near breakaway.
Speaker 3 (28:05):
M hmm, pretend to go in the first still no score.
Badgers and Minnesota State meeting for the first time since
Mike Hastings first season as Minnesota State's head coach back
in the twenty twelve thirteen season. Actually that season, both
teams were in the WCJA. Mancato came here and swept Wisconsin,
and then the Badgers went to Mankato and swept the Mavericks.
(28:26):
A pair of overtime goals by John Ramage back to
back overtime winners for the Badgers. Captain and defenseman in Mankato,
he could shoot it. Here's man Cato sweeping it around.
Smith will catch it left wing, hesitates and lost the
puck to Horbach, who turns on the jets. Horback right wing,
back pedaling the defenseman berg Vanas and he tried to
(28:49):
put it towards the net. It flipped it into the
air and dropped down to the right of Tracy and
taken out of harm's way by the Mavericks. And now
it wobbles back Wisconsin's way to eighteen to go in
the first.
Speaker 5 (29:00):
Pretty defensive mode here for men Cato. In the last
probably thirty five forty seconds, you'll notice that one man
might four check and the other two are just peeling
off and finding their wingers.
Speaker 3 (29:13):
Badger's just ice the puck, so I face off down
on the Wisconsin zone. Two other games going on tonight
in college hockey, also involving Big Ten teams. Notre Dame
was down two nothing four minutes into the first but
has scored five unanswered. Pirish up three after two, and
Michigan and Robert Morris are tied at two in the
(29:35):
second period of play. In ann Arbor, the Wolverines off
to a four and oh start. And during this start
we've got a little pushing and shoving and some extra
curricular stuff going on between the Badgers evers Jack Horbach
stirring it up just a bit, Yeah, Michigan Wall of
Mercy Hurst in Providence in back to back weekends, Badgers
(29:59):
win the puck on the face off, but it trickles
back into the Minnesota state zone. Bad passed by Murr,
intercepted by Deckzheimer, Badger's on side Montgomery will shove it
to the corner after it there is Jacob Conrad. Conrad
started his collegiate career at Lake Superior States, where he
had six goals and ten points as a freshman a
year ago and now skating in the Purple.
Speaker 5 (30:20):
And Gold in the state.
Speaker 3 (30:22):
Now a pedially coming up on Paladachuck as he was
trying to defend the badger's zone.
Speaker 5 (30:28):
He took a dive. I would say that that would
be just as much a dive. Yes, he was two
three feet from the boards. Platachuck very much known for
going for the hips with the cross tech part movement.
But the fact of the matter being.
Speaker 13 (30:41):
Is that.
Speaker 5 (30:43):
So Alata Chuck for crosscheck, he just kind of welding
him into the boards. More so than anything, it's the
timing of it. He should have waited till he was
up against the boards before he made that check. A Lota.
Speaker 3 (30:56):
Chuck played only twenty five games a year ago eleven
with injuries. Good to see him healthy, but right now
sitting in the penalty box for two minutes for cross
checking at eighteen nineteen. So Dubinski on the PK with
(31:16):
Osburn right now. The forwards Morrissey and Horboch. And now
Morrissey kicked out of the face off circle and Horbock
will step in against Ian Simosa from Simi Valley, California.
Simosa to take the draw and one by Minnesota State. Mrr,
pressured by Morrissey, puts it back behind the Badger net
to the far corner. Osburn kind of pins it against
(31:40):
the kick plate in the corner. Horbach is there man
Cato trying to outman the Badgers and they win the
puck free. Murr yours lurry right side. His shot off
the stick of Horboch, it rolls to the far side wall.
Benin Kaza has it now the right hander at the
hash marks left point. Now Murr mar Skate's right back
left ben inco he stick candles and shoots one in
(32:02):
on Alser made this stop drop the puck trying to
cover and eventually he gets the job done with one
of the Mavericks. Simosa right there looking to pick up
the loose change.
Speaker 5 (32:13):
Yeah, he just parked himself. He and Simosa just parked
himself at the goal line extended and as soon as
Hauser dropped the puck, he was out there hacking and
slashing away at it, and of course if you're a
bad jury, you take offense to that. So there was
going to be pushing and shoving in words after the play.
Speaker 3 (32:30):
So Simosa remains out there with Benning Kaza, Felix Gabbers
from Riga latia A Saint Lawrence transfer on this power
play unit, along with a fourth forward and Charlie Lurry,
who's got the puck right now outside the right circle
backside pass. Oh a sprawling right skate sade By Howser
(32:51):
going left to right, kicked out that right pad and
may have gotten the piece of that back door pass. Wow. Yeah.
Speaker 5 (32:58):
And of course the other savior that is that Jack
Falen is right handed and just stepped right into him
after he made that shot.
Speaker 3 (33:05):
Souposa crossed the line, takes it behind, the cage falls down, deck,
Shimer falls on top of him. The puck is underneath
the two. Time is winding down, thirty seconds to go
on the period, and finally a whistle blows, stopping play
because the puck is nowhere to be seen. Colin cran
Forest and Jake Rikouki, or the referees tonight Chad Roethlisberger.
Speaker 5 (33:25):
And Riley Bowles are the lines been in.
Speaker 3 (33:27):
Then faks off coming up in the Wisconsin z Owne,
do we have a penalty?
Speaker 4 (33:30):
Patally?
Speaker 5 (33:31):
So I think Quinn Finley's gonna take one, or maybe
it's Shoals. I'm not sure, but Quinn Finley really laid
the lumber on somebody behind the net cross check a
couple of feet from the boards, and I thought for
sure that that was who the referee was pointing at.
But they're just gonna let cooler heads prevail and we're
thirty point six seconds left. Have the face off.
Speaker 3 (33:53):
Charlie Lurry wanted a penalty. Nothing called. Here's Vonkowski. Now
put it backside again in position. Osburne went off the
heel of his stick to the far wall. Now it's
Lamir with it back out to the point. Zeerberg walks
the wall to the dot, try to refeed Lamir on
the doorstep, and that pass was deflected behind the cage.
Now Lamir stumbles on his toe, went headfirst into the
(34:14):
end boards. That freed the puck to Osbourne and the Badgers.
Dubinski fires it all the way down and that's how
the opening period will end. A digger by Tristan Lemire
allows the Badgers to get possession and clear, and after
twenty minutes of play here at the Coal Center, Wisconsin
and Minnesota State are scoreless. UW Health Sports Medicine, the

After one period here in Madison, Wisconsin and Minnesota State
are scoreless.
Speaker 5 (37:59):
The Badgers shots on goal.
Speaker 3 (38:00):
In the opening period than Deckzheimer had two of those
nine shots, Minnesota State seven shots on goal, three from
their team captain Mason Wheeler, Daniel Howser, perfectcind goal for Wisconsin,
Alex Tracy the same from Minnesota State, and both teams
zero for two on the power play. Minnesota State still
has nineteen seconds left on its second man advantage, but
(38:22):
the Badgers had two early cracksy in four minutes of
power play hockey foremost four shots on goal, yeah, almost
in a row early on, and just couldn't find the
back of the net.
Speaker 5 (38:32):
Well, neither team has looked very sharp on the power play.
I think from our vantage point, we could see better
how what man Cato was trying to do. You'll notice
that everything is coming from the right hand side of
the ice, and there's a right hander on the back
door that's there to get rebounds, there to get tip ins,
there to get reflect deflections. Whatever. The Badgers tried twice
(38:54):
to go across ice to Quinn Finley and he did
get one really good shot off, But other than that,
just man Cato just keeps clogging the middle and not
allowing them to make inside passes. Everything has to go
around the perimeter, and that takes time, and that takes
away good shooting angles.
Speaker 3 (39:11):
Yep. In fact, Minnesota State blocks six shots in the
opening period, five on power plays. Badgers and the Mavericks
are scoreless. This is the first intermission report brought to

Minnesota State. On a power play to start this second period, go.
Speaker 5 (40:35):
Ahead, I'll it's an informal question at the end.
Speaker 3 (40:38):
Here good hit by Jack Phalen to separate Samosa from
the puck. The Badgers pick it up and send it
all the way down and that'll do it for the
Mavericks power play. Both teams oz for two on the
man advantage. Twenty seconds into the second period, scoreless. Plata
chuck out of the box and he'll turn right and
head to the Badger's bench to get three forwards out
with two d Jack Horbock catches off the wall and
(41:01):
escapes his own out to center chip from behind off
his stick. Trailing was Dubinski cut off by Lurie, and
then Horbach with a good hitting near side on his
former teammate Sawyer Shoal. Those two had been rubbing shoulders
here the first twenty plus minutes or so, I was
going to say, dex.
Speaker 5 (41:18):
Sheimer went off at the end of that shift holding
his hand and he was in the referees ear pretty
much the whole time, so I think he must have
got hacked or something.
Speaker 3 (41:26):
Warwick, with a pass intended for slender turnover look out,
saw your shoal from outside the hash marks. He shot
it too high. He was open but missed the nets.
Schol two years ago as a freshman, had six goals
for the Badgers last year, three goals, nine points, and
elected to transfer to Minnesota State Medford, Wisconsin native former
(41:48):
Green Bay Notre Dame product played for Corey McCracken.
Speaker 5 (41:51):
In high school.
Speaker 3 (41:54):
Badgers after the puck in their own zone falient reversus course. Dubinski, though,
was cutting to the out of his net, so he
has to run it down far side and eventually the
Mavericks put it behind the Badger's cage again pass for Tassie,
unable to handle it. Falan able to get just enough
of it to scoop it out to center. Bottlerel now
backhand pass intercept it taken back by bottrel slot pass
(42:16):
Tulk on his backhand, here's a chance stop by Tracy,
and now Tassy really going at it with one of
the defensemen down there, rolfsburg Manus, he just wants to
stick back and Murgmanus had it all tied up in
his sweater. And now here's Oliver. Tulk takes a hit
but releases at two center two on two coukan In
with bottrel. Kukan In looks, shoots on a thundercuck that's
(42:36):
snagged by Tracy, and he hangs on two Zho five
gone by in the second still no score.
Speaker 5 (42:44):
I can't remember the last time that the Badgers have
had so much problem. It's so many problems getting out
of the zone. I don't know if it's just the
fact that man Cato knows where they're going or what
the situation might be, but I would like to see
Pullata Chuck or Hensler or one of the defensemen instead
of fake that first pass and just go coast to coast.
Speaker 3 (43:05):
For Once Badgers win the offensive zone, face off, kuchen
In turns and rims it around to the left corner.
E John with a hip check on Evan Murr freed
the puck. The Badgers Plata chuck a one timer from
the blue line, skip through the low slots, Hensler keeps
it alive deep e John tied up by Smith and
(43:26):
then a big hit by Deering on Murr. Fans enjoyed
that Deering much larger than the six foot one hundred
and eighty three pound Murr, and now the puck back
into the Wisconsin zone a lot of chuck braces gets
some support from Hensler bouncing puck to e John off
the wall far side. He's tied up from behind. Mavericks
forced a turnover and now kuchen In leans into Benning
(43:48):
Kaza and takes it away and the Badgers Deering will
sweep it deep to our right. Three minutes into the
second no score and the puck accidentally lifted into the
Badger's bench, stopping play.
Speaker 5 (44:00):
Hey Homer on the road.

Speaker 5 (44:16):
When there's an extended break, I'll tell you about Howwai
was misidentified today.
Speaker 3 (44:21):
Oh Tracy setting goal for Minnesota States Badger's offensive zone
face off fitz Gerald, Morrissey and Finley. Buck rolls along
the kickplate, little head and shoulder fake by Osburn. Wright
skated it out left, double teamed and lost the handle.
Then Finley steps in and takes it away. Badger's on side.
Finley one hands it ahead for himself to the corner.
(44:42):
He's met there by. Hupkah puts a shoulder into him,
passes to Morrissey left point, Osburn refeeds Morrissey off the wall.
Osburn one timer that's off the stick of a Maverick,
chipped to the near side wall by Lurie out to center.
Badger's hold it though, and it's deck Seimer turning and
firing it in. Huppkat takes hipcheck from Fitzgerald, rimmed around
of the near side. Now it's Lurie back pedals into
(45:04):
Morrissey a near turnover at the blue line, bouncing around
a bit and eventually gathered in by Jack Smith, who
played three years at Duluth and was teammates with New
Badger's defenseman Aiden Dubinski for those three years. Both left
UMD for their senior years elsewhere, and Dubinski fitting in
nicely paired defensively with Luke Osburn. Badger's getting offensive zone
(45:27):
face off after the Mavericks.
Speaker 5 (45:28):
Heiced it. Yeah, and for the last minute ten seconds
the line of Morrissey, Finley and Fitzgerald just hammed up
the speed kills and they were on the puck quickly,
got rid of it quickly, had a couple of good
shots off the pass. That line is dangerous when they're
out there. Second shift of the night for Tyson Dick.
Speaker 3 (45:48):
He's moved up to play with Zillenoff and Montgomery in
a collision as Wheeler went down and a pass wildly
thrown out the center and Fhalen has to run after
it gets to it, chipped it towards the Mavericks blue
line kept a live Badgers habit. Tyson Dick slot off
Falas back can pass Yeah, Ron tick safe made by
Tracy on Montgomery. Beautiful pass played Dick to Montgomery, but
(46:09):
Tracy up.
Speaker 5 (46:10):
To the Taz boy, Tyson, that was as nice as
you've done all your years here.
Speaker 3 (46:15):
Tyson Dick a healthy scratch at linden Wood. Played well
against the US last Thursday night, and Mike Casetings wanted
to give him a chance here tonight, Shoal with a
steel from Minnesota State and the Mavericks are offside fifteen
thirty to go. In the second, the Badgers and Minnesota
State are still scoreless. Both teams oh for two on
the power play, big save by Tracy. A moment ago
(46:37):
on the back door to Montgomery, I was at my
work and there was a group of youngsters who came
to see my senior citizens. And out of nowhere, I
was wearing what I'm wearing now, and the one young
boy said to me, are you Greg Gard? Did you
(47:01):
say yes?
Speaker 5 (47:02):
I said nobody. I would love to be his brother.
Don't worry about it. Here's Minnesota State out to center.
Felix gabbers with it from riga.
Speaker 3 (47:12):
Latvia takes a hit from Horbach and a chance for
Bonkowski left circle blocked away and the Badgers out to center.
Speaker 5 (47:20):
It comes It's good blocked by Piladachuk. That one had
gone through. There was a lot of net to shoot at.
Speaker 3 (47:25):
Auser now will feed it over to Hensler and the
corner has to retreat to his cage. As the Badgers
couldn't control the puck. Maverick's dump it deep again. Liam Watkins,
a transfer from Omaha, couldn't control and now Tulk takes
a hit, got knocked down. Zetterberg behind the net, slowed
by Ensler, but he's able to possess the puck. It's
Alex Zetterberg from sunvol Sweden, played in Sweden and link shoping,
(47:52):
which is down in the southern portion of the country.
Speaker 5 (47:56):
And now here's.
Speaker 3 (47:58):
Lemire stick Kling knocked to his knees. Wanted a penalty,
nothing called. Players falling all over the place and the
Badgers deering cuts through center right wing. He goes offensive zone,
switchs a shot on and Tracy sticks it aside. Cocanan
bumps it out to the point. Long range shot off
the stick of e John, held in for a moment
by the Badgers deering as he's engaged with Zetterberg for
(48:18):
the puck comes sliding out to center. Fourteen minutes left
in the second, still no score. Badres and Mavericks, meeting
for the first time in twelve seasons, bump the back
handed into the Wisconsin zone. Deck Sheimer back out there
after leaving with a painful hand, zips a pass ahead
Couchan and left playing sauce in front. Danny John tried
to kick it ahead for himself and swing at the
(48:41):
bouncing puck, but didn't put it on goal. And now
Minnesota stayed out numbers Wisconsin at the Mavericks blue line.
But the Badgers take the puck path. Morrissey off balance
shoved it to the corner. He'll give chase and put
it behind the cage to Finley, who got crushed to
the ice by Wheeler, picked up by Fitzgerald off balance
shot miss that at Finley back up on his skates.
(49:01):
Morrisey behind. Here's Fitzgerald shoots one that's blocked, ricocheted along
the right goal line.
Speaker 5 (49:06):
Morick with it now to murr hard rim around.
Speaker 3 (49:09):
Deflected by Wisconsin's Dubinski, fucking free in midair. Finley swats
at it up into the air and out of play.
With thirteen oh nine to go in this second period,
Minnesota State was rushing into the offensive zone. That puck
went airborne, and Finley prevented the pass across by simply
swatting it out of mid air.
Speaker 5 (49:29):
Yeah, there was some hand eye coordination there that I
would love to have had.
Speaker 3 (49:35):
Yeah, and he's got a set aments you see does
face off coming up in the Wisconsin zone, no score,
thirteen oh nine to go in the second period. Minnesota
State has yet to have a shot on goal in
this second period, Badgers just three. We kind of figured
it would be a defensive type hockey here in the
series opener.
Speaker 5 (49:56):
That's the mo of both coaches.
Speaker 3 (49:58):
Here's zill and off Pilata Chuck long lead feed off
of Montgomery, trips over the skates so of the defenseman Bonkowski,
but we play on bon Kowski's got it now up
the middle. He goes to Smith, the left hander to
Lourie on side given go. Smith couldn't handle the Reefee
down to the corner now and Samosa off his stick
(50:18):
but out to the point. Bonkowski shoots one low, kicked
away by Poladachuck. Another block shot by the Badgers junior defenseman,
and the Badres Tassie able to get it out to center,
follows it up hands off the Montgomery side steps of man,
leaves it off for Pulata Chuck cross the line fans left,
shoots one, almost beat Tracy backside on the glove side.
Speaker 5 (50:35):
He had him going and now Pa.
Speaker 3 (50:37):
Lota Chuck finds an open man in the slop of
Botterrel had that pass handcuff him. It was between his legs.
He had to shorten up his stick and just couldn't
get it down on the puck. Twelve thirteen ago, in
the second Badger's Nothing Maverick's Nothing bucket, the blue line
held in by talk Botterols got it cycles down to
the corner and Horbock, knocked off balance, able to roll
it around to the far side and talk quickly after
(50:59):
it crawls off the toe of his stick, though, and
the Mavericks will lift it out to center. With under
twelve minutes to go, dex Seimer turns and looks up Ice,
Horbock redirects into the attacking zone, tulk in on.
Speaker 5 (51:10):
The fore check.
Speaker 3 (51:11):
After it, Jacob Conrad, a Green Bay, Wisconsin native, slides
it around the gabbers. Slowed by Dubinsky. Is the Badgers
able to hold bontneril waiting for it to pop free.
Horbock there as well, still lose and eventually it slides
to center. Ice spend dex Sheimer after it. Now the
Badgers captain to Horbach and he'll flip it in to
(51:34):
former Madison capitals, connecting there need to change now. Conrad
rims it around maybe too strongly. Is that going to
be icing? It is eleven nineteen to go on the
second we have no score. Let's plus ten seconds for
station identification, ten seconds for a legal ID. You're listening
to Wisconsin Badger Hockey.

Speaker 3 (52:00):
We have no score, eleven nineteen to go. In the
second period, Badgers win the face off in the offensive zone.
Kucone places it behind the net, now to Dick. Kukanon
right corner out to Dubinski, finds an open man head
and shoulder fake. Ozburn, his shot blocked by Jacob Bonkowski.
Badger's though it will hold again. Dick, though couldn't keep
it away from Mr Murr, then lost it to Kukone,
(52:20):
ties him up in the corner. Dick comes out of
there with it quick shot off the stick of Conrad,
went airborne. Osburn knocked to his knees, back up on
his skates, twirls away from one man, head and shoulder
fake and a shot from out high off of Jacob
Bonkowski stick and out of play Boy. I tell you,
Louke Osburn sixty one eighty nine pound freshman from Plymouth, Michigan,

through here in Madison. The Badgers and Minnesota State in
their series opener during Dick Kuchanan on the ice for
Wisconsin with Osburn and Dubinski at the blue line, where's
the pucket got chopped? That goes to the corner, Dick
with it trying to control He's pressured by Luigi Benin
Kaza now Dubinski. His longline shot was block ricochet to
(54:43):
the corner, deering then cycles for Kukonin tried to step left,
got pinned against the wall by Leamir fights through it,
deering with an angle to the puck, and then a
man goes down. That's dick out to the blue line.
Held in nicely by Osburn, He's able to pivot and
keep Benning Kassa from play the puck for a moment,
but then eventually they sandwich it out to center and
(55:03):
then refeeding the offensive zone the Badgers. Finley quickly after
the puck got there so quickly he forgot to look right,
and when he passed the puck right there was no
one home for Wisconsin, but Hensler holds the zone for
the Badgers. Thirteen to seven shots on goal here between
the Badgers and the Mavericks, Wisconsin, with the advantage in
that category in Minnesota State has yet to put a
puck on goal in this second period and.
Speaker 5 (55:25):
A lot of time in their defensive zone.
Speaker 3 (55:27):
Here's Hensler now slides a backhand pass too far for Finley,
sent back to center by the Mavericks and now Evan
Murr with it. Merb defensive player of the Year in
the CCH a year ago seven goals, twenty seven points,
and now Morrick across the line stender backside, Shoal covered
nicely by Hensler, who takes it away leading the rush.
(55:50):
Now Morrissey right wing, Finley cuts to the slot back door,
passed piladachuck off his stick to the far side and
cleared out by Minnesota State Shoal. Then in a foot
race with Hensler and Hensler cut in front and took
it away, then took a cross check from Schoyer, Sawyer's
schol in the back before releasing an outlet pass. And
now the putt to flex up over the glass and
(56:11):
how to play with eight point fifty to go here
in the second period, it is still scoreless.
Speaker 5 (56:17):
I was listening to a Chicago Blackhawks game on the
radio the other night and they used my line. All
of a sudden, the puck popped over the glass and
he goes comes win. That's out of here comes win. Funny.
Speaker 3 (56:33):
Well, the Brewers did not win tonight. They just lost
to the Dodgers three to one. So LA leads the
best of seven National League Championship Series three games to none.
Game four is tomorrow night in Chavez Ravine. Who's going
to crack the nut here first tonight? The Badgers or
the Mavericks. Boy it's been a stalemate, zilling off with
(56:54):
the puck and the offensive zone had it lost it.
Dex Sheimer gets it, weaves through a couple of Mavericks,
now off to Zen and off refeeds Dexheimer left wing
and he'll pitch it down to the corner. Tassie there
the former Maverick tied up from behind by bird Manus
and then taken away by Minnesota State. They'll break out,
or at least attempt to to Bonkowski, but too far
for him. Dexheimer after it quickly and he'll chop it
(57:17):
back to Duvinski eight o five to go on the pier.
He ifs back hadn't pass out to Tassi and he
couldn't handle it, kicked it too far ahead of himself,
trailing though Montgomery low right shoots one and a save
mate by Tracy always stopped that one through on the
All American goaltender in Tracy able to make the save.
Seven point fifty left in the second, no score. Osbourn
(57:37):
held from behind, lost possession of the puck. Mavericks send
it to the far corner of the Wisconsin zone to
our left. After it there's some moosa behind the net
now Lurie low right and a shot in front rate directed.
Hauser kept it out and then it slides through the
paint and Osbourne hustles after it and the Badgers pick
it up. Good look that time. One of the best
chances Minnesota States had all night, and it's only chance
(57:59):
here in the second period. Now, Laurie Tea's one up
off the heel of Hawser's glove to the corner. Osborne
wiped out as he tries to retrieve the puck taken
out by Samosa. A lot of penalties early, not so
much here in the second Walking towards the goal line
was Benning Kasa tried to stuff it Howser again with
a save. Horbock tumbles down as he clears it to center,
but back on the attack. Ons Minnesota State man open
(58:21):
backside pass slot, Bene Kaza scars Luigi Benning Kaza beads
Hauser right up the middle. It's won nothing, Minnesota State.
There was a breakdown at the blue line.
Speaker 5 (58:34):
Horbock turned over the puck at the blue line and
then he didn't go after the puck carrier. He let
the defenseman take the puck carrier, and then he let
the return man who ended up scoring the goal, h
just all alone in the slot by himself. So turn
over at the near blue line. Every coachs nightmare. Twelve
(58:54):
fifty nine the time of the goal.
Speaker 3 (58:56):
Luigi Benning Casa, former Farris State bulldof that's his first
goal of the season, third point of the year, and
Minnesota State's Lamir and Jacob Conrad with assists. So it's
one nothing. Man Cato.
Speaker 5 (59:16):
Jacob Monty will be walking proud.
Speaker 3 (59:18):

Correct me if I'm wrong. That's only there here. We
are fourteen minutes into the second period, and that was
only their third shot of the period.
Speaker 3 (01:01:09):
Yeah, only the tenth of the game for Minnesota State.
So the Badgers down a goal on home ice. Here
in their regular season home opener, Morrissey had the puck
over skates, it's bouncing around behind the Badger's net. Henzler,
trying to protect, flips it around the kick plate. Finley's
got it and hands it off the Morsey bad pass
(01:01:29):
up the middle, kept alive by Ben Magnus Burke Manus
that is in the Minnesota State offensive zone. He again
slows Fitzgerald before he's able to poke it between the
legs of Murrick and a puck to flex down to
the Minnesota State zone. They go to get it and
back to center and right to the stick of Ben
deck Seimon. Six thirteen to go. Here in the period,
(01:01:50):
here's Morrissey now across the line. He'll shove it deep,
gives Chase paddled away from him by the goaltender, but
Morrisey able to pick it up, banks it out to
deck Shimer little stutterstep over the blue line and he
has to place it back deep Finley the biggest pardon.
Fitzgerald tied up Finley chased it down, pasted it Deering.
He fans it a shot. Finley tried to get it
back it crawls off his stick, kept it lie by
(01:02:12):
Deck Sheimer all balance shot block. He now steps in
front of a man, takes it away. Here's Deering right side,
shoots one low. Tracy with a sad we had a
man's back door.
Speaker 5 (01:02:21):
Two.
Speaker 3 (01:02:21):
Here's fhlan now goal line left at Steck Seimer back
to Falan works to his right, shoots one off a
stick track bles in now Deering tried to step one
off after the pad, save it by Tracy and he
couldn't lift the puck. And then Tracy lost his glove
and then motioned to the referee, Hey blow the whistle.
Blow the whistle, and since he was gloveless, they did
(01:02:44):
blow the whistle. Even though the Badgers had the puck
in the offensive zone.
Speaker 5 (01:02:48):
Somebody from Mankato and went off to get some new
lumber because they just smoked Quinn Finley in front, really
laid the lumber on him down deep.
Speaker 3 (01:02:59):
How comes talk e John and Tyson Dick all this
forward line with Dubinsky and osburn.
Speaker 5 (01:03:05):
Well two shifts in a row after the goal against
They've come out with some renewed intensity.
Speaker 8 (01:03:10):
I like it.
Speaker 3 (01:03:11):
Oliver told three assists, three shots on goal in the
series sweep at linden Wood a couple of weeks ago.
Dick's got a goal line right, went short side and
run the post. Could hear it all the way up here?
Out towards the point Dubinsky couldn't hold. E Jon put
his shoulder into Lurie Smith with a puck and now
Minnesota State offside five point fifteen to go in period
number two, the Mavericks with a one to nothing lead.
(01:03:34):
Minards is a proud sponsor at bad Dra Athletics and
reminds everyone to save big money on all your home
improvement needs. At Manard's, Daniel Hauser stopped nine to ten shots.
Speaker 5 (01:03:47):
He stays so far tonight.
Speaker 3 (01:03:48):
Alex Tracy perfect seventeen for seventeen is Tracy.
Speaker 5 (01:03:55):
He can. The one thing about Tracy is he'll make
the initial saved, but he he really depends on his
defenseman for rebound coverage, tip coverage, whatever, and they're doing
a good job.
Speaker 3 (01:04:06):
Mike Hastings and Todd Connott recruited Tracy to Minnesota States
and he's had a fantastic career. There the Mavericks with
a puck and the offensive zone block shot. E John
came right back to the defenseman's Psychos. He fires one
miss the nets. Reaching for it is the Badger's Tyson Dick,
off balance able to one hand it ahead to.
Speaker 5 (01:04:26):
Tulk who sweeps it up.
Speaker 3 (01:04:27):
The Ejohn slowed with the body of Psychos and then
a hipcheck far side, knocking Ejohn into the sideboards. Tracy
the goldtetter behind his net, caught up in traffic, but
the Mavericks have two to one Wisconsin Badger. Eventually, though
it's Tyson Dick taking it away for Wisconsin sweeps a
pass out to the point, backpedaling Pullata Chuck is shot,
redirected by Tulkien wide Oliver Tulkden squashed into the sideboards.
(01:04:50):
He goes down. Dick reaches for it, got it to
the point and pull out of Chuck. Badger's trying to
pull even the late second period, Hensler walks down the
right wing wall behind the net. Hensler right back up
the middle, finding Pullata Chuck cuts left, no place to
shoot or pass. Joe skates low left, wants to sweep
it behind the net circles all the way around to
the right side, redirected front by set it off stop
(01:05:12):
by Tracy and look like he reached his glove back
over the goal liner into the cage to keep it out,
then fell down, but a quick whistle by the referee.
He says, no goal.
Speaker 5 (01:05:22):
That was the indication by zellenof too. He pointed right
behind the net, right into the back of the net
as he was skating by, saying, hey, this is where
the puck is, so I don't this isn't like baseball
where we can have our football where we're going to
have seventy three different angles of review.
Speaker 3 (01:05:41):
It was close, though, it was close. Talking to Luke
Strand about what makes Alex Tracy so good, he said
he's sound, just a sound goal setter, but he's not
afraid to come out of his comfort zone and just compete.
You know, if he's not in position or whatever, you
he will battle back and do anything he can to
keep the puck out of the net. At long range
shot by Finley skipped wide to the mark, and Minnesota
(01:06:03):
State tried it at a home run pass behind Lourie
all the way down to the Wisconsin zone and Houserer
there for the Badgers. Then loft it back to center
by Wisconsin, Fitzgerald reaching for in the attacking zone, can't
get to it. Smith a wild pass at center that
Dexheimer will get to it. Morris he tapped back to
Falan needs some help and give it away. Three on
(01:06:24):
one Minnesota State and the whistling off side call. How
I was going to be a tripping call. We're gonna
call a penalty on Minnesota State. Family got spun around
and went down.
Speaker 5 (01:06:31):
He just ripped his left leg right out from underneath
of him. It was could either be a kneeing or
a tripping or a whatever you'd like to call it.
But Laurie's going to make his way to the penalty box.
Speaker 3 (01:06:43):
Charlie Lurie two minutes for tripping and it comes at
sixteen twenty three. So the Badgers get a third qunits
power play, needing a goal to even the store.
Speaker 5 (01:06:57):
And they'll start with their second unit, which is probably
a wise move because the first unit had Morrissey, Finley
and Fitzgerald had been out there just twenty seconds before.
All Right, Oliver Talk takes the draw. He was five
for five in the circle in the first period.
Speaker 3 (01:07:12):
Here's e John now top of the right ring, puts
it down to the goal line, cooking impact side open
man bodderally couldn't put it on goal, actually chipped it
up into the air and down into the glove of Tracy,
who snagged it and hung on. Beautiful plays. They work
goal line right to the backside left. I'll have to
tell Ryan standing on the end of the pier and
you missed the lake bottrill of goal two points against
(01:07:35):
Lindenwood two weekends ago.
Speaker 5 (01:07:36):
Four goals as a freshman.
Speaker 3 (01:07:38):
He had twenty nine goals his final year in the
USHL in Youngstown a couple of seasons ago, Badgers win
the draw each little one timer and a shoulder saved
by Tracy. Badgers still with possession of the puck, talk
with it left, hash marks now to Osburn. He waddles
his way along the blue line. Tulk now shoots one,
and Tracy on his knees top of the crease, made
(01:07:59):
the stop up and hangs on for a face off.
Three fourteen to go in the second one nothing Minnesota
State still one thirty seven left in the.
Speaker 5 (01:08:06):
Badger's power plus similar philosophy, and notice that man Cato,
when they were on their power play would shoot look
for a rebound, and then there's an offside winger who
is just standing waiting kind of behind the defenseman. That's
exactly what Kukanin was doing off that shot. Same power
play unit remains here. Ian Tulk again wins the face off.
Speaker 3 (01:08:25):
Osburn shoots one low and that went off the body
of Tracy Kuchanon tried to pick it up clear around
on the near side, but held in by e John.
Two goals against the US Under eighteen team a week ago.
Tonight for Bruno e John and has pass to the point,
handcuffed Osburn. He's got a hustle after it and prevents
Smith from getting to it. And you will and the
Badgers need a change. Here comes Osburn up the center stick,
(01:08:46):
Candling lost it, able to regain possession. Now double team
far side passed towards the point, pulped away breakaway chance.
Now for Tristan Lemiir two on oh. Lamir will take
the shot. Houser save rebound there for a moment, but
he covered. Paul Lamiir had a two on zero against
Daniel Hauser. He could have passed right to Jacob Stender,
(01:09:08):
elected to shoot instead, and Hauser with a big stop
to keep it a one gold episode.
Speaker 5 (01:09:12):
Correct my aging memory. But that's the third at the
blue line, trying to get to the defenseman pass that
has been intercepted that resulted in at least a breakaway
or a partial breakaway for man Cato. There will be
some talk about that between periods.
Speaker 3 (01:09:29):
Tristan Lamir young man who started his collegiate career at
Denver three years ago and won a national championship with
the Pioneers as a freshman in twenty twenty four as
a sophomore. Actually then as a junior, he transferred to
Western Michigan. Last year, he had fourteen points in forty
two games and the Broncos win a national championship. Now
in his third school in three years, Tristan Lamire face
(01:09:55):
off to the right of Hauser Shoal for Minnesota State.
The face off one by the back Morrissey, fifty five
seconds to go on the power play. Although it's been
Minnesota State with the good looks here the last couple
of times Badgers Fitzgerald pass slot open finley show we
hit the cross buff free about all the horn goes off,
referee washing it out saying no goal, no goal. But
(01:10:18):
the horn goes off. The band is playing, but the
players are continuing to skates. They should because it went
right off the pipe. Yeah, and the scoreboards showing goal.
Speaker 5 (01:10:26):
There's no goal.
Speaker 3 (01:10:27):
Badgers continue to play. Morrissey low left, setting up Fitzgerald
his shot. He fanned out, It got knocked down, taken
away by Shoal. Here comes Shoal at the red line.
He'll slowly scoop it into the Wisconsin zone. Badgers will
go to get it. Twenty seconds left on their power play.
Oh Finley with a whistling wrister that beat Tracy clean,
but he hit the top right portion of the crossbar
(01:10:50):
far side. Here's Morrissey left dot topol. He shoots one
and he missed the net out. Morrissey hasn't scored a
goal in a regular season game in seventeen, dating back
to January seventeenth of last season.
Speaker 5 (01:11:03):
Had a chance there but failed to convert.
Speaker 3 (01:11:05):
The Badgers now zero for three on the power play,
down one nothing, ninety seconds left in the second period,
and that was the gift horse. Now here's Horback at center.
He'll whack it in to the left of Tracy. Pupka
goes to get it and whips it around La Mirror
catches on his backhand, cross eyes pass mid air off
the stick of oh Nicasa, who then leaned into Hensler
(01:11:27):
and planted him on his backside. Man Cato then leaves
it down on goal and Houser gloves it and hangs on.
Speaker 5 (01:11:34):
Hensler checking from behind on the linesman.
Speaker 3 (01:11:38):
Now Hensler with a puck at the red line, will
dump it in off the high glass. It bounces around
a little bit with underremitted to play hard rim around
by Minnesota State's Evan Murr not strongly enough for icing.
It doesn't look like as Wisconsin. Dubinski after setting up
a man in front. What a great save by Houser
in tight on Alex Zederberg. Too many Badgers went to
(01:11:58):
the puck in the corner, left Zeeberg wide open in
the middle and Houser.
Speaker 5 (01:12:02):
With a huge stop to keep it one nothing.
Speaker 3 (01:12:04):
Now Zenberg again to the point, long range shot by
Conrad Off The mark fuck is free. Badgers can't clear
twenty four seconds to go on the second behind the net.
Now read Morrick takes a shoulder from Dubinsky, separates the
puck to Zelenoff, who had to leap to get out
of the way of the hit from one of the
Mavericks gabbers, and then Morik clobbered horback and now Morrik
(01:12:27):
going after Hensler. They going at it once or twice.
Mowick won't let Hensler go. Two seconds to go on
the period, here's Zelenoff across the line. He's tied up
and the whistle blows stopping play. Fans wanted a penalty
or two it down the stretch of this second period
against Minnesota State and did not get it. And for
a moment it looked as hif maybe Quinn Finley had
(01:12:49):
tied the score, but from what we saw Ian his
shot from the high slot rang iron did not go
into the back of it. Even though the horn went
off and the scoreboard indicate goal. Finley did not score,
and so after two periods of play it's won nothing
Minnesota State.
Speaker 5 (01:13:07):
Well, that would have been a gift because the Badger
powerplay has not looked that good and when they got
it into his hands, good for him to take that shot.
There was traffic in front, the goaltender didn't see it.
All that needed to be was two inches to the left,
not two inches to the right.

Speaker 3 (01:16:54):
Second intermission here at the Coal Center was Tops and Trails.
Minnesota State won nothing in the Badger's regular season home opener,
Badgers had twelve shots on goal in the second period,
in Minnesota State had only six. Didn't have a shot
on goal in the second period until they were about
seven eight minutes left to play, but on their third
shot of the period, Luigi Benicasa beat Daniel Houser at
(01:17:17):
twelve fifty nine. Tristan Lemir and Jacob Conrad with the
assist the lone goal scored in the game. So far,
Minnesota State with a one nothing lead. Badgers have had
three power plays tonight, six shots on goal in six
minutes of man advantage hockey, but unable to solve Alex Tracy,
who's made twenty one saves so far. Howser's been good too,
(01:17:37):
he stops some pinpoint shots, but Tracy has kept the
Badgers out of the net so far.
Speaker 5 (01:17:43):
Yeah, houses had very little scramble shots that he's had
to save, but he's made the initial save cleared rebounds.
Give to credit to the defenseman for not allowing a
lot of rebound shots by any stretch of the imagination.
But you're right at the other end, there's been a
lot of scramble saves, and I guess I get in
(01:18:04):
a situation where now I know where the statistics for
Alex Tracy have come to be shown here at the
Coal Center.
Speaker 3 (01:18:12):
No kidding, Yeah, Alex Tracy his collegiate career has a
one ninety four goals against average, a nine to twenty
five save percentage, and eight shutouts in his time at
Minnesota State. Badger's trail to Mavericks won nothing. Second intermission
back in a couple of minutes. This is Badger Hockey
from Airfield.
Speaker 1 (01:18:30):

Speaker 3 (01:18:57):
We're upstairs here in the Rail Transport broadcast booth. Is
the Badgers come back on the ice for the startup
period number three. They will be skating right to left
and trying to solve Alex Tracy once maybe twice. Badgers
down a goal to start the final period of play.
Speaker 5 (01:19:16):
One at a time. That's all it takes, gentlemen, One
at a time, that's all it takes. And as we
can tell by special teams play both teams on the
power play, So I don't think special teams will be
the answer for either team is as we enter the
third period. But on the same token, playing shorthanded is
(01:19:38):
never easy. And when you're on the road, Man Cato, Yeah,
you're on the road, you're gonna have some tough times
if you start taking penalties.
Speaker 3 (01:19:48):
Only five penalties called so far to night, four in
the first period, then one in the second against Minnesota State.
The Badgers unable to convert. They're zero for three on
the bad advantage. Mike Hastings will start Oliver Tulk, Simon Tassi,
Ryan botteril Ben Deck Sheimer, and Jack Falen in front.
Speaker 5 (01:20:05):
Of Daniel Hauser.
Speaker 3 (01:20:06):
Tulk, the freshman centerman ten for ten in the face
off circles so far. Tonight matched up against fourth winer
Jacob Stender from Alexandria, Minnesota, and we're set to start
the third period of play here in Madison, and Tulk
wins the face off and the Badgers Henzler skates, gains
the red line, scoops it into the left corner. First
(01:20:28):
man there is Minnesota State, but they can't clear it
as Tulkott in the way. Eventually it slid past him,
and here's Sawyer Schole. Fourth line, left winger shoal off
to Stender, loose in front, pass to the cutting forward
deflected by auser out of harm's way. It was actually
the defenseman Psychos who filled that far lane. Now botterrel
stickhandles through three Mavericks, eventually lost the buck, although he's
(01:20:52):
still battling. Stender gets some help from Psychos. Buck taken
away by Morrissey skating to at Fitzgerald, but he couldn't
controlled it cleanly, and then he shoves Shole into the sidewall.
Badgers have it back. Morrissey backhands one, hoping to hit Fitzgerald,
but too much steam on it. Finley cuts in to
try to hold his own. No luck there. Pitchfork's out
(01:21:12):
the center and the Badgers regained possession. Minute into the third.
No score. I beg your pardon won nothing Minnesota State.
No score for Wisconsin so far. Here's Morrissey with a steal.
He'll shove it around right corner to left down the boards,
comes finley cut off by Jacob Conrad, fuck out high.
Dubinski finds an open man zeiling off, he shoots one
(01:21:33):
too high. Oh ZeLing off his open ride circle and
missed the target. Going for the three pointer, Dubinsky and
Osburn out there. Osbourne waddles his way back pedaling to center,
couldn't get a deep finley was offside the pub kit
him had a stoppage in play eighteen thirty five to
go in the third one nothing Minnesota State lead as
(01:21:54):
Luigi Benning Kaza scored the lone goal at twelve fifty
nine of the second period from Tristan Lemire and Jacob Conrad.
Speaker 5 (01:22:03):
I remember when he was at Farris State, saw him
a couple of times. Conrad, Yeah, good young player.
Speaker 3 (01:22:12):
Yeah, Ben and Kaza, Oh ben In Kaza. Yeah, he
was at Farris State. Beggar pardon. Conrad was at Lake
Superior State. Yep, ben in Cozen, he's a good looking player.
He had twenty four points as a sophomore last year
twenty three as a freshman at Farris State. Maybe ccha
l rookie team Avericks stumping into the Wisconsin zone, Dubinski
(01:22:34):
holds off Lourie, allowing Osburn to get to the biscuit.
Montgomery had it caught up in his skates, can't locate it,
and it's sent back deep into the Wisconsin and Osburn
rubs up their for checker Simosa, and then Smith does
the same to Wisconsin's Horbock. They're battling along the far
side boards to the right of the Badger's bench and
now Montgomery for Wisconsin one on three. Big Fellow back
(01:22:58):
pedals into the offensive zone. Then law the handle came
out to center, got it back, cooking in with it.
He'll fire it off the glass behind the Minnesota State
net and give Chase, but the Mavericks first to it.
Now dex Sheimer ducks underneath Bankowski finds Kokan in left circle.
Tried to pull it to his forehand to shoot and
lost the handle. Now Dick picks up the fuck in
a long range shot skipped through off the right pad
(01:23:18):
of Tracy shot on goal for Tyson Dick, who overskates
low left as he had a path to the net,
and then it's lofted out to center and dex Seimer
will bring it down with his stick. Got failing back
to Deckheimer won nothing Minnesota State seventeen thirteen to go.
Speaker 5 (01:23:33):
In the third.
Speaker 3 (01:23:36):
Psychos pushed it far side out of the reach of
Conrad during four Wisconsin off the far corner wall. It
bounced away from the Badger's four checker and now Minnesota
State with it. Conrad will bank it off the glass
back out to neutral eyes, poked away from Plada chuck
into the stick of Logan Hensler, just the nineteenth Wisconsin
Badger to be selected in the first round of the
(01:23:56):
NHL Draft. Logan Hensler's passed Summer by the the Ottawa
Senators twenty third overall.
Speaker 5 (01:24:03):
Just about uh but the fifth one to go to Ottawa.
Speaker 3 (01:24:08):
Four sins the bad Yeah, the Badger sends Wisconsin sins.
Here's Benning Casa stick handling out high ran into traffic,
coughed it up. Jan picks it up at the center circle.
He's tied up, tried to pass to tass He kicked
it free. Benning Cossa's got it again and back hands
at the center. Lamir then redirects intended for Zinnerberger. The
(01:24:30):
flects back to Lamir and now Wisconsin's Oliver Tulk angles
an outlet pass to Tassi, scoops it ahead to e
Jhon one on three, PopEd it past one man, got
stood up by the defenseman and lost his angle to
the puck. And now the Mavericks sent it back Wisconsin's way.
Speaker 5 (01:24:44):
I'll tell you Lamir is a greasy little forward. There's
about three times that he goet lined up and he
just kind of slithered off of it again.
Speaker 3 (01:24:51):
A two time national champion, once at Denver in twenty
twenty four, last year at Western Michigan. It's not getting
the playing time he want. Apparently he's a top line guy. Here,
he's a bouncing shot up much on it that Tracy
had to keep out of the neck, kicked it with
his right pad. Now here's a chance in tight for
Finley tried to draw towards the cage, ran into traffic,
buck slid off his stick.
Speaker 5 (01:25:12):
Here Sawyer's shoal for Minnesota State.
Speaker 3 (01:25:14):
One on two got a shot off in on Dubinsky,
but why to the mark looked like it went off
the side of the netting. May have hit Hauser's glove first.
Now back to neutral and it's Finley licked the stick
of a defender. Passed back to Fitzgerald left wing behind him.
Fans getting frustrated. Mavericks fire it back in fifteen twelve
to go in the third. Badgers have yet to light
(01:25:34):
the lamp on home ice tonight. Morrisy now his long
lead feet off his stick and then the glass in
the Minnesota state zone. Findley over skates. Lurie's got it
pressuring him, was zilling off and now off this stick
of Samosa and into the Badger's bench, stopping play. Fourteen
fifty six to go in the third. It's one nothing,
(01:25:55):
Minnesota States proud.
Speaker 5 (01:25:58):
Of that daddy stuck his hand out in front of
his son's head and caught that puck and then just
calmly and coolly handed it down to the son. And
the Sun's like cool, yeah, cool, dad, we could have
been home. Countin Chickletz that he just lost big ten.
Speaker 3 (01:26:15):
Starting the weekend, had a thirteen six and one non
conference record. Notre Dame and Michigan both won tonight, So
now fifteen six and one and non conference results matter
big time in the end when it comes to selecting
the sixteen team national tournament field. In tight, here's a
chance botterrel swung and missed passed by Zillan off to
(01:26:35):
the stick of Botterrel and he fanned on it when
he was three feet away. It was him and the
gold center. Padris can't buy one right now. Fourteen and
a half minutes left, zilling off with it left wing,
thought about shooting and then gave the puck away. Botterrel
can't reach it back out the center. Gabbers will hustle
after it. Falan's forced back into the Wisconsin zone. Falan
(01:26:58):
meets him and then it picked off by Gabbers away
from Pulada. Chuck Joe battles back to take control. Then
Botterol can't handle near wall sites that move by Murr
right Dot shoots one tried to go blocker side, miss
the nets, thankfully for Wisconsin. That shot by Murr then
hit the corner glass and ricochet all the way back
to the Minnesota state zone.
Speaker 5 (01:27:17):
That's a mustard on it, didn't it?
Speaker 3 (01:27:18):
Yeah? Six minutes gone by in the third Badgers getting
shut out in their regular season home opener, won nothing
by Minnesota States across the line given go chance for Watkins,
couldn't put it on goal, chipped it in front, deflected
off a stick or two may have hit the left
knee of Houser and it stays on the ice. Now
to Tyson. Dick sweeps it off to Puladachuck. He has
(01:27:39):
his head up looking thought about passing right wing to
Kuchen and thought better of it. Did he gain the
red line apparently so as he whips it. Indeed, Kuchanon
puts one on goal, not much on it, sticked to
side by Tracy twenty fifth shot on goal of the
game for the Badgers, who've yet to selve the Minnesota
State senior netminder. Now Dick right corner of the offensive zone.
(01:27:59):
Twirling away from pressure, Dicks stick candling two men on him,
leaves it towards the net too high to the corner.
Now Osburn the defenseman all the way below the ash
bark stick candling to the far right side goes Luke
Osburn turn around shot blocked by Ben and Kaza, taken
by Dubinsky, held in Kuchen and now lofts one off
the glass all the way around to the right point
(01:28:20):
in Osburn, who throws a week past to the corner.
Speaker 5 (01:28:23):
Murr intercepted.
Speaker 3 (01:28:24):
He heaved it over the top of Osburn that should
be icing on Minnesota State add it is twelve forty
eight left in the third, Wisconsin trailing the Mavericks one
to nothing. Hey, Badger fans, choose chill and celebrate responsibly
twenty one means twenty one Cors Light choose chill twenty
twenty five Cores Brewing Company, Golden Colorado.
Speaker 5 (01:28:44):
Interesting. The Badgers were tired at the end of that
pretty much minute, minute and ten second chef in the
offensive zone, but not with the icing man. Kato's got
the same situation, only they're tired and they can't come
off the ice.
Speaker 3 (01:28:58):
Talk to take the draw against Bennet Casa and wins
the face off deck Simer Falan one time shot.
Speaker 2 (01:29:02):
Redirect Badger's store Oliver Tulk or Simon Tassi.
Speaker 3 (01:29:09):
The Badgers finally get on the board. It's the senior
Tassy redirecting that blast. It's one to one.
Speaker 5 (01:29:16):
Well, I will say I'm pretty good at this game,
and I said they're tired out there. We get one
face off, we're in and shoot the Buckinger goes in
the net.
Speaker 13 (01:29:25):
I like it.
Speaker 5 (01:29:26):
I like the way that turned out. But again, that
was tasty going to the net. A good shot from
the point, easy deflection, now that you think about it,
but both of the Mancato defensemen were at least a
stick length away from the Badger forwards, thus the tip
in relatively easy.
Speaker 3 (01:29:46):
Simon Tassi will get credit for that goal, I believe,
although to me it looked like it was Oliver Tulk.
Speaker 5 (01:29:52):
Well according to the.
Speaker 3 (01:29:55):
The the official score monitor, it's Tulk. But we'll make
sure Badrews pull even at seven seventeen. Phalan will get
I believe, the primary assist on that goal, or Tulk
maybe off of him too Tassy. Badgers lob one from
one hundred feet on goal and Tracy has to go
(01:30:16):
to his knees and steer it aside a one to
one game here, third period centering passed by Minnesota State.
Morwick was there but covered by Fitzgerald. The Badgers with
a puck morrisy kicked into the attacking zone and lost
it Mark the other way. One on one pull out
of Chuck another man trailing he Orrick's shot was blocked
and the Badgers pick it up in Hensler out to Finley,
(01:30:36):
who Mishandles try to get it back from bening Kaza.
Speaker 5 (01:30:40):
Coaches aren't going to like this because it's gotten a
little more wide open than either coach lakes Yep.
Speaker 3 (01:30:45):
Finley's still battling dueling with Benning Kassa. Now Henzler picks
up the loose puck sandwiched by a pair of Mavericks
in Minnesota State now controls with eleven forty left here
in the third period, a one to one game puck
all the way down on dan Hauser. He'll sweep it
off to Dubinski, snaps off the pass to Morrissey, comes
backside to Osburn. Badger's breakout. Finley will send it into
(01:31:08):
the Minnesota state zone for the Mavericks get their first
mern Now lead feed behind the Badgers defense is Smith.
They'll run it down in the right corner over skates
pooked now deep by Leamir far side Bottrel. He'll send
it back the other way. Osburn now controls. Tapped it
off to Dubinski. He sweeps it around No One home
for the Badgers. Long range shot blocked by Wisconsin's Fitzgerald.
(01:31:30):
Badger's running around a bit murr with a blast. He
missed the cage and out to the point Conrad can't
hold his own.
Speaker 5 (01:31:37):
Yeah, the Badgers are chasing the puck rather than intercepting
it ten.
Speaker 3 (01:31:41):
Fifty five left in the third a one to one game.
Benenkasa scored with about seven minutes uh left in the
second period, and then Simon Tassi we believe, gets the
game tying goal at seven seventeen. Tulk was on the
far side and appeared to me originally that he got
a piece use of the blast by Phalan, but we'll
(01:32:02):
double check. Badgers have the puck Horbock on side. Horbock
with it passed a Zilanoff catches and shoots one right
through the crease. Run now by Phalan puts it on
the stick of Horbock right wing back to the net.
He finds deck Seimer, his shot blocked by Simosa. Zelanoff
keeps it alive. Botteril whips it around right point held
(01:32:22):
thereby Falan find zilan Off try to force a pass
up the middle. Again it went off a skater to
and out the center and now whistling off side. They'll
call on Wisconsin. Ten oh four to go in the third.
The Badgers have pulled even. It's one to one in
Madison back in one minute. This is Badger hockey from airfield.

Turk and Family Insurance, the official insurance partner of UW Athletics,
Visit andfam dot Com Slash Badger's all season long for
exclusive content thatcher fans, sweepstakes and more. As of now,
they credited the game time goal old freshman Oliver Tulk,
with Simon Tassy and Jack Falin getting assists at seven seventeen.
So Tulk with his first goal as a Badger, if
(01:34:11):
that stands more importantly, It's a one to one game
with ten minutes to go on the third and the
Badgers have picked up the pace a little bit.
Speaker 5 (01:34:18):
Yeah, they have. And I like the fact that, well, here's.
Speaker 3 (01:34:20):
A chance in tight trace. He kept it out, kept
his knees together as Kuchanan tried to split the wickets.
Go ahead.
Speaker 5 (01:34:27):
Sorry, but I like the fact that they're winning the
scrambles down low. Yeah. Whereas the first and second period
it was pretty much a draw.
Speaker 3 (01:34:35):
Kukan In kicked at Frey, puck slides all the way
through neutral ice and deck Sheimer back to get it.
Bob look the long time public address announcer announcing here
that Oliver Tulk does get the goal. He is first
as a Badger from Tassie and Falen, and again the
score official scorer can take another look at it as
the game moves along. Beate Jackamini, longtime official scorer here
(01:34:57):
for Wisconsin hockey has retired or semi retired.
Speaker 5 (01:35:02):
Yeah, they do that to old goaltenders. Some should retire
sooner than oh. Yes as a goaltender, yes, Oh, we're
going to get a penalty against the Badgers for Simon
just reached under and slew footed him.
Speaker 3 (01:35:17):
Yeah, Tassi went down and he's going ahead of the
penalty box for two minutes and not the time to
take a penalty after pulling even potential major penalty on Tassi.
As the referees Colin Crownforcet and Jake RICOOKI are going
to take a look.
Speaker 5 (01:35:36):
At him now. I didn't see what would make it
a major penalty. I saw them find up and he
ended up sticking his Tassi ended up sticking his arm
around the Minnesota player and then kind of pulling him
back over his legs. I'm a little hesitant to understand
why it might be a major penalty.
Speaker 3 (01:35:57):
And I have yet to see a replay my on
it as well. Referees are taking a look at video
replay as we speak. Hey, we checked the scoreboard quickly.
Two other Big Tens teams in action. Michigan improved at
five and zero with a four to two win over
Robert Morris, Adam Valentini scored twice for the Wolverines, and
(01:36:20):
Notre Dame gave up two goals in the first four
minutes and then scored eight in a row and beat
Saint Lawrence eight to two. Cole Knuble scored twice for
the fighting Irish Evan Warner, a transfer from Michigan at
a goal and three assists as Notre Dame wins for
the first time in three games this season. Friday Saturday
Series third ranked Michigan State at top ranked Boston University.
(01:36:41):
Sixth ranked Penn State will host Long Island. Number thirteen
Minnesota visits eighth rank North Dakota this weekend. That'll be fun,
and sixteenth ranked Ohio State two and zero visits twelfth
ranked Connecticut.
Speaker 5 (01:36:54):
I'll be interested to see the situation at the Notre
Dame game, whether it was two goals scored and the
goaltender change.
Speaker 3 (01:37:06):
Pire the referees come out of the box, We'll see
what they say. Two minutes for tripping on Tassi. You
know they were engaged and both went down. Could have
been more of a hole than a trip. Tassie pleading
his case to Colin Crown Forest it was Jake Riccuki
who made the call. However, so Wisconsin I and is
(01:37:28):
down a man in a tie game with eight to
fifty one to play, and now we'll dig deep.
Speaker 5 (01:37:35):
The first thing that I would say, don't take any
more stupid penalties number one and number two. Win those
battles and get down on your knees to block shots. Gentlemen,
Badgers have blocked ten so far. Tonight, Minnesota state over
two on the power play. Badgers win the face off
Horbock with speed, trying to beat murder the net. Here
comes Horback, slow moving shot Tracy with a savorybound.
Speaker 3 (01:37:56):
Ricochet behind the net. Boy Horback just picked up the
puck and took off and the Mavericks couldn't catch him,
but Tracy.
Speaker 5 (01:38:04):
Shot, he couldn't get his own rebound.
Speaker 3 (01:38:06):
Yeah, twenty seven saves now for Alex Tracy in this
one to one game. Finley out of the PK now
with Fitzgerald, Falen and dex Sheimer.
Speaker 5 (01:38:14):
A little bit of a change in the philosophy or
usually your top line guys aren't penalty killers, but so
far this year.
Speaker 3 (01:38:22):
Well, the speed of Finley and Fitzgerald can kill wild
pass by Benning Kassa too far, tracked down by Finley,
cuts to the net on the backhand, pitched a little
fourhand shot that went wide on Tracy Oh. He cut
in strong from right to left and just couldn't get
it on nets.
Speaker 5 (01:38:39):
I would hate to check those two when they're in
full speed like he did. You just saw, I mean
you saw Quinn Finley at his finest where he takes
it to his back end and then turns around and
just blows by the defenseman.
Speaker 3 (01:38:51):
Now horback with Morrissey on the PK Minnesota State dumps
it in Howser can't stop it behind his net, bounces
away from Palada Chuck able to make contact with a
puck enough of it to get it too deck Sheimer,
who whips it around. Nice route of applause from the
fans and attendants. Here tonight is the Badgers still have
forty seconds left to kill off the two minute minor
to Simon Tassi Bonkowski right wing now to Conrad left handed,
(01:39:13):
defenseman across the line, back ends it behind the net
to Smith centering pass Lemire shot miss the neat Oh.
He pulled the trigger inside the left circle and missed
the target, and the Badgers again able to rim it around.
Speaker 5 (01:39:25):
And out wholesale changes with only twenty seconds left. This
had to be good.
Speaker 3 (01:39:30):
Seven o five to go. In the third, a one
to one game in this series opener between old WJ
foes Wisconsin and Minnesota State. Up the right wing wall
is Stender looking try to walk the defenseman and did
gun around deck. Shimer never got a shot off. Stender
then taps it over to Wheeler. Power play time is expired.
Pass out to the point. Psycho shot block. Houser made
(01:39:52):
the stop rebound was there knocked out of Harm's way.
Psychos goes to get at both teams at full strength.
Six forty to go on a tie game here in Madison.
A Buck shot, here's another. A pass knocked out by Tassy,
came free. Stenders shot denied by Owser with a glove
hand buck go's airborne up along the glass. One man
who's broken his stick wore a cat it plays it
(01:40:14):
to the point. Sychost fake left, went right, shoots one
off of stick. Houser save a man down in the
slot that Sawyer shoal He's injured. Lose puck slides towards
the badger net. Keep drill with stick out a stick
and you have his left hand through it to the corner.
So two Badgers. Stickless Finley defending Sycos Sycoast takes it
back behind the net to the left wing. Now the
(01:40:34):
right hander pitched it across shoal with it no angle
to shoot. Sycos will that's blocked by the stickless Tassi,
who dives to the ice and swats it to the wall.
But Morrig's got it his pass off a skate. The
Badgers still have two players without stick's. Tassi actually able
to get to the bench to get a new piece
of lumber, and now Wisconsin's deck Seimer, after a block shot,
(01:40:55):
slowly scoops the puck ahead. But that'll be icing on
the Badgers.
Speaker 5 (01:40:59):
When cry forty to go and Quinn Finley is going
to have to come back out on the ice, he
is just exhausted.
Speaker 3 (01:41:09):
Well, Mike Hasings has a time out at his disposal
if he'd like to use it. A one to one game,
five forty left and a long shift a moment to
go for the Badgers, and Hastings will take that time out.
Speaker 5 (01:41:21):
Why wudn't take yep smart move because they were exhausted.
No questions asked and I can't honestly say. Besides, it'd
be Finley Fitzgerald. I don't I guess Tassi was the
other forward. Nassy was out there and a couple of
(01:41:42):
them playing without sticks for a while. Do whatever you
have to do.
Speaker 3 (01:41:46):
Dexheimer and Dubinski were out there a long time too,
So the Badgers and the Mavericks tied. It won five
forty to go in the third. Why don't we pause
ten seconds for station identification? Ten seconds for a legal idea.
You're listening to Wisconsin Badger Hockey.
Speaker 1 (01:41:59):
Thanks Brian Okay. Ten seconds to identify the station.
Speaker 5 (01:42:02):
You've got it.
Speaker 1 (01:42:03):
This is Fager Hockey. I'm thirteen ten Wyva Medicine.
Speaker 3 (01:42:07):
And associate head coach Troy Ward, Keith Paulson and Corey
McCracken have asked for a challenge for a potential major
penalty for a moment during that scrum or that sequence
where the Badgers had two players without sticks. Shol got
hit right between the circles and lay in the slot
(01:42:30):
for a while. I'm wondering if they're trying to see
if there was some sort of infraction there. You know,
Mike Hastings talked about it during the pregame show. You know,
Minnesota State scored five power play goals at Omaha. The
best way to prevent power play goals is not to
take penalties.
Speaker 5 (01:42:48):
Correct, right, I mean, it's simple common sense knowledge. But
the fact of the matter being is in the heat
of the game and you don't have a stick or
you're killing a penalty. Some times desperation takes over before
common sense does.
Speaker 3 (01:43:03):
Then the Badgers in Minnesota State meeting in tomorrow night
seven o'clock pregame at six thirty on the Badgers Sports Network.
Next weekend, the Nanooks from Alaska come to town for
a non conference series Friday at seven, Saturday at six,
and then the Badgers close out the month of October
by hosting Minnesota Thursday Night, October thirtieth at eight pm.
(01:43:23):
And they start November against the Golden Golphers Saturday, November
one at six pm. UW Badgers dot com or call
one eight hundred Go Badgers, and again trying to see
video replay. Phalen was in the vicinity at Sawyer's Shoal
when Shull went down to the ice where one needs
to look.
Speaker 5 (01:43:42):
At Yeah, but I don't know if he hit him
in the head. Looks like he went down and I'm
not gonna.
Speaker 3 (01:43:52):
Say it, but.
Speaker 5 (01:43:54):
Could have been a dive.
Speaker 3 (01:43:56):
Hey, while we have a moment, like to say hello
to Phil and Mary lou Zick, who I hope are
listing right now. Phil, We're wishing me all the best
you two, Mary Lou miss seeing you out here at
the rink. Unsuccessful challenge by Minnesota State trying to get
a five minute major, so no more timeouts for Minnesota State.
(01:44:18):
Wisconsin's used. It's only time out, so five forty left
in regulation a one to one game.
Speaker 5 (01:44:25):
And nobody's got time out. Nope.
Speaker 3 (01:44:27):
Based off to the right of Daniel Hauser, who stops
sixteen to seventeen shots, Alex Tracy has allowed only one
goal on twenty eight shots so far. Based off the
Houser's right, Tulk is out there with Dick and Kuchin
in Yep. Tyson Dix fled away to the game yep,
(01:44:47):
and so's talk for that matter.
Speaker 5 (01:44:49):
He's got the lone goals so far, and he's been
involved in every offensive play.
Speaker 3 (01:44:54):
Duvinski. After Tulk wins the face off, they working around
and outs cooking in at center. He'll dump and chase
psychos tries to cut them off. They're engaged after the
puck talk to the circle tick a one time or
and he just missed it. That it's good look by
Tulk to Dick and now out high shot by Wisconsin
went off of stick and out of play, and he'll
(01:45:16):
drop the puck in the Minnesota state zone. Five twenty
to go in the third period of a one to
one game, and we'll keep it right here, I believe.
Speaker 5 (01:45:25):
Yeah, five twenty and uh, referees just sent the ice
scrapers off again.
Speaker 3 (01:45:30):
Yep again. The media timeouts now involving big ten teams
under thirteen minutes left on the clock, under seven five
point twenty.
Speaker 5 (01:45:40):
To go right now in regulation it's one to one.
I guess common sense would say to me, we just
had a two and a half minute time out. Why
couldn't they have done it? Den Sure.
Speaker 3 (01:45:50):
Botterl has to step in to take the face off
for deering and he wins it, protecting y Jon two
freshmen in a softmore on the forward line for the
Badgers in a tight game. Lates a Lotachuck had the
puck caught up in his skates at the right point
and was forced to give it away and actually drew
Hensler across the lines of the Badgers have to retouch,
(01:46:11):
and they have, and now Pladachuck has to hustle back
into his own zone. And there's Lemir, who's been a
pest tonight from Minnesota States. He Jean sweeps it ahead
to deering bowls over Zetterberg and alignsman in the processor
so diving a tip by Wisconsin's Sensler has the puck
trickle free in front of the Minnesota State net Hensler
(01:46:31):
couldn't put it on goal and went off the glass
and then chipped out to center.
Speaker 5 (01:46:35):
Botterrel had that initial shot and has such a glorious rebound.
Speaker 3 (01:46:39):
And Hensler just couldn't get there in time. Here's mer
Now from Minnesota State. He'll dump it in four twenty
five left in the third a one to one game.
Falan spins away from pressure deck. Sheimer pushed it to
open ice. Horbock with it and he'll lob it out
to center and it's brought down by Lurie but taken
away by Wisconsin Fitzgerald. A horback tried to split two
defenders with a lob pa for himself, taken by Riley
(01:47:02):
Bonkowski now to Simosa, puffed off, balanced by deck Sheimer,
puck loose in the slot of the Wisconsin zone, gathered
by the Badger's Christian Fitzgerald angles to his left, try
to dump a deep lurry got in the way. Fitzgerald
will try again. Instead, he put it on the stick
of Bonkowski, who's being pressured by the fore checking zillen Off.
Three fifty to go in the third, Wisconsin one, Minnesota
(01:47:24):
State one. Here's Simosa now. Samosa takes a hit from
zillan Off, put a slow moving shot on the ice
on goal that Howser just steers aside for Falan. Here's
Osborn now up towards center, off the stick of Tassie
and then up into the crowd, stopping play. Three thirty
one to go in the third, a one to one
game here in Madison.
Speaker 5 (01:47:48):
No, I'm gonna feel not very smart in exhibition games
or in non conference games. Are the overtime rules the same?
The same? Yep?
Speaker 3 (01:47:58):
Carry on three?
Speaker 5 (01:47:59):
Yep missed my NCAA rules.
Speaker 3 (01:48:02):
Me Morrissey Finley Tassy out now for Wisconsin, and Morrisey
won that face off so strongly it went off the
hand of Osburn all the way down on Hauser, who
leaves it off for Osburn. Now three twenty to go,
Badgers will break out Dubinski up the far wall. The
pass for Tassi too hot to handle, but Icing waved
(01:48:24):
off and picked up by Finley, threw it through the
low slot and off the corner wall and all the
way back to the Wisconsin zone, and Dubinski's has to
hustle after it bumps it off for Osburn up the
far boards. Tassi tried to chop it through but unsuccessful.
Three minutes left, buck Loosen the Wisconsin zone. Two Badgers,
two Mavericks.
Speaker 5 (01:48:42):
Along the far wall signed them.
Speaker 3 (01:48:44):
Dube try to dig it free. Morrisey had it on
his stick, then lost it, bounces free to moriic turn
around shot a hunt actually more of a pass to Benning.
Kasa got a stick on it, but not on goal,
and now it bounces away from Zetterberg and the Badgers.
Morrissey has it. He's immediately pressured, had his pocket picked
by Benning Kasa. Morrissey steps in front of him to
(01:49:05):
cut him off, and there's Lamir now from Minnesota state
before Morrisey takes it back and coughed it up look out.
Burwalks in backside left Centerberg off balance shot.
Speaker 5 (01:49:13):
He missed the net.
Speaker 3 (01:49:14):
Bad turnover by the Badgers, but man Cato can't convert.
Wisconsin's Morrissey now whips it in deep to nineteen to
go in the third, a one one game.
Speaker 5 (01:49:22):
Oach.
Speaker 3 (01:49:23):
Here's Edberg now from Minnesota State drops it back to Conrad.
Now Murr at center off a sticker too and pullata
Chuck finds himself with a biscuit. Plata Chuck bumps it
off to Hansler far side. Tall Badgers, almost a turnover,
but it found its way through to Kouka and Dick
across the line backside pass to Tulk too far. Tulk
fell down, the puck still loose, Minnesota State able to
(01:49:46):
push it out to center, one fifty to go in regulation,
a one one game.
Speaker 5 (01:49:51):
We're everybody's looking tired.
Speaker 3 (01:49:53):
Oh yeah, everybody, I'm both sacked. Yeah, I mean both
sides of ships are gonna get short. Yep, Badgers with
possession back in their own zone. Kuchen In angles it
past the deck. Sheimer gets around a man still as possession.
He'll scoop it in after it is Tyson. Dick reaches
for it, but the puck taken by Wheeler, his outlet
(01:50:15):
off his stick and the Badgers get it back. Phelan
pushed it up to Deering left wing. Great Dearing crushed
by Mason Wheeler into the end boards. Deering's helmet came
off and a whistle quickly stops play for safety reasons.
Deering appears to be just fine as he gets up
on his skates, straightens out his bucket a little bit.
(01:50:36):
He'll put that back on his head. But boy, Mason Wheeler,
the senior captain from Minnesota State, crushed the freshman forward
into the end boards.
Speaker 5 (01:50:44):
Yes he did, and uh it was clean. I mean
there was no uh illegal part about the check. He
just kind of laid his shoulders and his hips into
him and Deering was maybe a foot from the boards
and the whip. Laugh's reaction is something that you really
have to look at.
Speaker 3 (01:51:03):
Deering is six two two hundred one pounds and took
a wallop from the six to two hundred one pound
Mason Wheeler. He'll drop the puck outside the Minnesota State zone.
One fifteen to go. In regulation, it's Stender against Morrissey,
and Stender won the draw D to D they go in.
(01:51:25):
Psychos up ahead to Morrick couldn't handle it. Stender, though
played at far side, Shoal centering past the Badgers in
position and deflect it to the corner and al Pladicheck
goes to get it within one minute to play in regulation.
Wisconsin one, Minnesota State one. The Badgers regular season home opener, Morrissey, Finley,
(01:51:45):
Fitzgerald out for the cardinal in whites. Morrissey slides it ahead,
Fitzgerald will backhand it deep Thinley down the left wing wall,
cut off with a hip check from Psychos, but the
puck's still loose in the offensive zone. Thirty nine seconds left,
Morrisy tried to dig it free. The referees let him
play the puck underneath three four young men, and finally
(01:52:06):
Wheeler goes to get it, pulls it to his forehand,
banks it off to shelf, out to center, kick free
by Falan and then sent back in by Minnesota State.
The layed offside washed out. Twenty one seconds left. The
Badgers have a rush to win it. Finley lobs it
up to center. Founeral reaches for it, bouncing around in
the slot. Loose puck ticket by Lamire ten seconds left,
(01:52:27):
Lamir center circle, one on three, three on three now
more so Lamiir shoots one through State by Houser, rebound
back behind the net, Centerberg. Three seconds left, two seconds left,
down to the corner. It goes horn, sounds and that's
it for regulation. The Badger's score once here in the
third to poll even Oliver talked from Tassy and Falin
at seven seventeen. But after sixteen minutes of hockey here
(01:52:50):
in Madison, the Badgers regular season home opener, it's a
one to one tie with Minnesota State, and we've got
three on three, five minute overtime.
Speaker 5 (01:53:00):
Come up here in a second. Yes, we do, and
a lot of people are for it, a lot of
people are against it. I'll be honest with you. As
a coach, I can't stand three on three overtime just
because of the fact that we've played a wonderful game
for sixty minutes five on five and yeah, resulted in
(01:53:20):
a tie. Let's keep playing five on five until we
get a winner. That's my personal philosophy. But as a fan,
to see the open ice and the breakaways and all
the rest of the things that go with three on
three overtime, it's exciting. It's mark fighting is sighting for
the fans, and I agree with it. From a philosophical standpoint,
(01:53:41):
I would have to say that satisfying the fans is
a big issue. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:53:46):
Oliver tulk The lone goal for the Badgers came at
seven to seventeen to the third from Simon Tassy and
Jack Falin for Tulka's first goal as a Wisconsin Badger.
Wisconsin out shop in Minnesota State eight six on goal
in the third period.
Speaker 5 (01:54:01):
Through three periods, the Badgers.
Speaker 3 (01:54:02):
Twenty nine shots on goal, Minnesota State nineteen. Daniel Hauser's
been good eighteen saves, Alex Tracy twenty eight saves for
Minnesota State. Both teams zero for three on the power play.
Tonight again three on three, sudden death overtime, five minute period.
The first team to score wins.
Speaker 5 (01:54:25):
Really, Yes, that how overtime works. That's how it works. Well,
I'm a maze. Sudden victory. Sudden victory, Yes, sudden victory.
That was taught to me a long long time ago.
Don't you ever say sudden death. You say sudden victory,
and that's all there is to it. Thank you. Certain so.
Speaker 3 (01:54:43):
Again in that third period, Badgers with eight shots on goal,
Minnesota State with six, Kyle Kuchen and Ryan Botterol both
four shots on goal. Oliver Tulk has had a nice night,
a goal, three shots on goal. He's fourteen for fourteen
in the face off circle tonight. That's pretty impressive.
Speaker 5 (01:55:01):
We probably had a guy last year who did the
kind of the same thing, didn't we Yeah, well, killer
of all papodic killers then mark about sixty percent.
Speaker 3 (01:55:10):
Oh and now in the American Hockey League with the
San Diego goals.
Speaker 5 (01:55:14):
Good for him.
Speaker 3 (01:55:16):
So the goaltenders switched sides, Tracy now in the goal
to our right and Houser in the goal to our left.
They're giving me two teams a little bit extra time
before they dropped the pluck for three on three hockey.
My Rodgers come out with Tulk, Finley and dex Sheimer.
Minnesota State counters with their top centerman Luigi ben In,
(01:55:38):
kaza Evan Murr and Tristan Lemire.
Speaker 5 (01:55:42):
I will say, however, that's the part of the overtime
that I don't agree with. You should be able to
protect your own end of the ice.
Speaker 3 (01:55:49):
The Badgers were two seven and three in overtime last season.
They lost eleven games by one goal last season. Seven
of those came in overtime, and the Badgers caugh it up.
Look out, here's a chance for Murr had the stick
pulled from behind, but the puck slid over to ben
and Kasa. His shot denied by auser and the Badger's
long leaf feed just over the stick of Finley. Otherwise
(01:56:11):
he could have maybe cut in on the goaltender. Now
Murr cuts off Finley. Murr takes the puck away up
the middle. He goes it's Lemir far side to Benning Kaza.
He'll slowly Eskate to the red line. Take his time
to change too, and I think the Mavericks will get
a change here and they'll change their forwards. As Murr
remains on the ice, Fitzgerald and Morrissey out now for
Wisconsin with Logan Hensler four to ten left and three
(01:56:34):
on three overtime. Murr late in his shift, Murr comes
across the line, three Badgers back. Murr backhands it around
to the far walls Zedterberg. Fitzgerald looked like he had
a step on him. Zedeberg took the puck. However, Alex
Zedeberg his pass by the sophomore deflected and out to
center comes Sawyer Shoal, the former Wisconsin Badger, getting some
(01:56:54):
three on three time for Luke Strand's club. Oh, we
all know he can shoot and score arals. Bert Mannis
gave it away Tyson Dick. He comes in, tries to
make a move. Berg Manus nice play toy cover poked
the puck away. Fitzgerald looking for the loose biscuit. Eventually
Zeivier goes to get it. Renumber of Sweden's bronze medal
winning U eighteen World Championship team a couple of years ago.
(01:57:16):
Alex Zetterberg, little right hander, gains the zone. W I
number support cross ice pass. Smith Warbock will chase him
down in the corner. Three point twenty to go in overtime.
It's a one to one game here in Madison. Now
Smith out high dangling, Samosa lost the handle, grabs it
in the corner, tried to force it towards the net
office stick the Badgers now possess. Dick twirls away from pressure.
(01:57:38):
Somosa tried to dig it off his stick. It's loose
out at center and Psychos has it for Minnesota State
three minutes to go.
Speaker 5 (01:57:45):
In Ot find him Tyson game.
Speaker 3 (01:57:50):
Campbell's Psycho's up the near side wall to Samosa protects
the puck across the line. Samosa one on two. Now
he's forced out to center and Psychos has it. Dick
wants a break and now comes Gavin Morrissey with Horbach
and Osburn, Morrisey breaks up a play at center. Here's
horback with a chance. Now get to the bench and
Finley will replace him. To thirty to go in Ot.
(01:58:12):
Badgers trying to start their home schedule with a win.
Last year, they opened the season at home and lost
to Lindenwood. Now here's murr across the line. Stick Candling
maybe got a bit too cute. Badger's take it away.
Finley tried to bank it ahead for himself and instead
turn it over. Lemir finds Murr stick Candling drops off.
No Murrra maintains possession around the right wing wall, slow
(01:58:33):
moving past. Benenkasa has a step on. Morrisey cuts storts
and then fourhand or off and Howser with a safe
pre bowt loose. Badger's had it. Osburn couldn't clear diving
a tent and now by Lamiir has he got knocked
down and howser out, but he couldn't put his stick
on the puck as it slid through the paint. Hawser
was out of position.
Speaker 5 (01:58:51):
Lamiir.
Speaker 3 (01:58:52):
Had he got his stick on the puck, would have
scored the game winner. Did not. Mavericks have the puck. Won.
Forty five left in overtime, one one two times the
Badgers coughed it up too deep. Here's Stender now add
a try by Shull missed the net on the glove
side of Hawser. It comes all the way out to center.
The Badgers have yet to put a shot on goal.
(01:59:14):
Here in ot Shull one on three lost the puck.
Stender's got it, now, what's he gonna do? Spins into
the wall, pressured by Osburn. Luke trying to pull it free.
Stender to the circle, passed for Berg. Manus handcuffed him
and shul will chase it down out to center. One
fifteen left in overtime. Finley's exhausted Botterrel's been out there
a long time. Too bad pass by Minnesota State taken
(01:59:35):
by Osburn. Here's Osbourne down the middle bottle ol Osburn
shoots and he missed it on the near post off
the corner lookout Minnesota State two on one the other way,
Smith left wing looking Zenerberg Hill shoot Haul Halser with
a great save as he slides to his left, keeping
in a one to one game. Now here's Smith walking
towards an net merse shot buck by Finley, gathered in
(01:59:56):
by Bottrel. Finley looks the spring. Bottrel finds him, but
the off his stick. Finley will track it down in
the corner. Forty seconds left. Pushed it out to the
left wing wall decksider pass to the slot, intercepted by Murr.
They've got a two on one again, Badgers. A quick
change could have had too many men on the ice,
nothing called MURSTA candling lost it, but then regains control
(02:00:17):
because Botterol's been on the ice for three minutes, it seems.
Speaker 5 (02:00:20):
Now here's Oliver talk with it.
Speaker 1 (02:00:21):
One on one.
Speaker 3 (02:00:22):
He tries to break in against the defenseman Toll pull
turnaround shot. Oh, it's blocked by the recovering Benekaza. Fifteen
seconds left. Tulk had a chance to be the hero.
Now Murr in the corner. Tulk ties him up. Nine
seconds Tulk trying to pull it free deck Shimer's got it.
He lost it though, ben in Kaza trying to clear
three seconds left, and this game will go down as
(02:00:44):
an overtime tie to Badgers in their regular season home
opener play Minnesota State to a one to one overtime draw. Wow.
Speaker 5 (02:00:57):
Well, I can't say that it was lack of excitement
in overtime, of course, by any stretch of the imagination.
And I think that coach Hastings did a good job
of selecting the players who were hot for the three
on three, so now you go to a shootout. But
the fact of the matter being is that I was
(02:01:18):
impressed at the Badgers even when they lost that scramble
down low because Finley was just exhausted and didn't make
that initial pass. They were able to rely on their
goaltender and will go down as a one to one
OT tie.
Speaker 3 (02:01:33):
Boy Daniel Hawser made a couple of huge stops at overtime.
Speaker 5 (02:01:35):
Didn't he Yep, it was The reason he's here is
that he's a good reaction goaltender.
Speaker 3 (02:01:41):
Howser finished the game with twenty one saves, Alex Tracy
twenty nine for Minnesota State. Again, officially, it goes down
as a one to one draw. This is a non
conference game, they will do an exhibition shootout just for
the fun of it for the fans. Neither team will
gain any additional advantage because of the shootout. Again, it
goes down as a one to one overtime time. But
(02:02:02):
both teams you shootouts in their league. So we'll start
with one year and Lamir will come in one on
one against Howser right wing to the slot, tries a backhander.
Howser dining left, made the stop. Daniel Hawser stops Lemiir
and out comes Quinn Finley, the Badger sniper shot twenty
(02:02:26):
goals a year ago for Finley. He'll pick up the
puck and move off to his right, coming in on
Alex Tracy to our left, cuts to the slot looking
shooting an a plucker say made by Tracy in Minnesota State.
Speaker 5 (02:02:43):
Now, this has always been my question who to pick.
Speaker 3 (02:02:46):
We'll bring out Charlie Lurry. Lurry four goals as a
sophomore last year in twenty games in Omaha, and he
shoots one and it may have raised the glove of
Howser and wide. So Lurry does and convert.
Speaker 5 (02:03:03):
You know, one of the most interesting things that I've
ever seen. Yeah, is that one of the players for
I can't remember who, we had a shoot at him.
Speaker 3 (02:03:11):
Here's asks for a different puck. Here's Logan Henzler coming in,
he's looking. He goes upstairs glove side and miss the net.
Both teams zero for two in this exhibition shootout. So
out comes Luigi Benning Casa, he scored the long goal
in regulation for Minnesota State. Benning Kata set emits from Edmonton,
Alberta right hander will fan off to his left, houser
(02:03:33):
way out on top of his crease and benniksa stone
by Owser's left pad. So the Badgers can win the
shootout if Christian Fitzgerald can convert. Fitzgerald opened the season
with four goals last week, and in the sweep at
Lindon Wood, here comes Fitzgerald, the left handed senior, down
(02:03:54):
the left wing. He looks saying looks and shoots and
his shot fought off with a blocker of Alex Tracy
and we go another round.
Speaker 5 (02:04:04):
Yeah. I remember one time when ever was the coach.
I think they went to seven or nine. Oh yeah,
and I asked him if he was gonna call up
to the booth to have me come down and shoot.
Speaker 3 (02:04:16):
Sawyer shoal now with a chance against his former team,
and he rang the post. Oh shol beat ouser, buy
in iron. It remains scoreless in this exhibition shootout, and
here's Bruno e John to take a crack at it.
Twenty five goals in forty seven games in Lincoln in
the USHL a year ago. Bruno e Jon big left hander,
(02:04:38):
right side down the middle, EA com stick hand lake
back handy scores. Oh, you walk right down in the middle,
tapping the puck forehand, back end for him, back end,
tuck the backhander pass Tracy. The Badgers win the shootout,
hearing the home opener.
Speaker 5 (02:04:56):
Well, I guess your player the game, last game, It's
only right you should score the winner in shootout overtime.
Speaker 3 (02:05:06):
Again, it goes down officially as an overtime time. My
Hastings Badgers Luke Strands Mavericks one one the final score.
Our postgame show is coming up. This is Badger hockey
from larypel.

Brian Posick and Parron Here at the Cole Center. The
Badgers and Minnesota State played away one to one over
time tie and really you know the Badgers had two
power plays early in the game. Ian if they find
a way to convert there, it may have been a
different Bowl game. But Minnesota State, as was it m
O when Mike Hastings was coaching there for eleven seasons,
(02:10:34):
very similar with Luke Strand on the bench.
Speaker 5 (02:10:36):
Yeah, there's not a lot of difference in philosophy. There's
not a lot of difference in I guess, patterns of play,
type of players that we're going to see, and you'll
notice that pound for pound, skate for skate, all everything
that was going on out there. There wasn't a lot
of difference in the chemistry or mentality of either team.
(02:10:57):
And I guess if you were an outsider looking in
one to one tie, that would pretty much sum up
the game as you looked at it. I mean, that's
just all there is to it. Yea.
Speaker 3 (02:11:08):
Luigi betting Casa scored the lone goal for Minnesota State.
Freshman Oliver Tulk the low goal for the Badgers. Let's
name our three stars of the game, brought to you
by ever Light Solar. Who do you have in Well,
we're going to start at the bottom and go with
number three. And despite the fact that he was. He
was a plus one and he did score the winner
in the shootout. Bruno reeds On is have played just
(02:11:32):
probably the most mundane but successful game that he's played in.
Speaker 5 (02:11:38):
I mean, there was no ups and downs. He's just
so consistent. He I just love the way he does it.
He gets that shootout goal, he's a plus one for
the night. It's hard to take him. Keep him off
the three Stars, Number two star, Oliver Tulk wins a
big face off, gets big face offs. He's what fourteen
for fourteen, I think you said he with it fifteen
(02:11:58):
for fifteen, fifteen for fifteen, So those are unheard of statistics.
So the young man knows his way around the face
off dot, let's put it that way. But more importantly,
the fact that he got himself in position to score
that deflection goal to put the Badgers at one to one.
You could just see the whole building have a sigh
of relief that the Badgers finally scored a goal. And
(02:12:19):
the number one scorer star excuse me, Daniel Hauser twenty
one saves, and a lot of them were reaction saves,
tested saves, unlike his counterpart, where he just saw a
lot of shots he had to be really good on
rebounds and number one and number two on deflections. I
(02:12:39):
was impressed with how he can cover deflections. He seems
to know where the puck's going before I do. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (02:12:45):
Houser had six saves in the third period, three in
overtime and stopped all four shots he threw well. He
stopped three of the four shots he faced in the shootout.
Sawyer show hit the post.
Speaker 5 (02:12:54):
The scramble that was at the end of the overtime
just put him the number one start no matter what.
Speaker 3 (02:13:01):

Back of the Coal Center, Wisconsin's regular season home opener
ends in a one to one overtime draw with Minnesota's
State Our energizing performance of the game, brought to you
by Alliant Energy, Powering Beyond.
Speaker 5 (02:16:33):
For you who energized you today, Ian, Well, I'll tell
you what. There is a play of the game that
I didn't result in a goal, but it made the
Badger the Coal Center excuse me just explode, and I
will give the player play of the game to Quinn
Finley who rang the pipe and everybody in the building
(02:16:56):
thought it was a goal except him and the goaltender.
So for whatever reason, the horn went off, the crowd
went crazy. And the Badgers kept playing. But from that
point on they kept playing with a little more intensity.
So I will give him the player of the game,
all right.
Speaker 3 (02:17:13):
So the energizing performance to Quinn Findley Finley here tonight.
Unable to get on the score sheet, Quinn finished the
game unofficially with one shot on goal.
Speaker 5 (02:17:26):
But again I rank the iron two rang. The iron
does not count as a shot goal. The one thing
that I learned a long time ago.
Speaker 3 (02:17:34):
Yeah, I got a one to one final between Wisconsin
and Minnesota State. We hope to hear from head coach

WYBA back of the Cole Center in Madison, Wisconsin, and
Minnesota State played to a one to one overtime time
Badgers win the exhibition shoot out here in the regular sea.
He's a home opener. Head coach Mike Hastings downstairs with
us now. And you kind of figured playing Minnesota State
that this was going to be kind of a rock fight,
didn't you.
Speaker 34 (02:20:09):
Yeah, you know what they've they're true to their identity
and they defend, and I'm glad they found a way
in the third period to finally get one by him.
Speaker 3 (02:20:18):
Yeah, and that was a big play too by Oliver Tulk.
You know what a night for the freshman two fifteen
of fifteen in the face off circle.
Speaker 5 (02:20:25):
He does not look out of place out there.
Speaker 34 (02:20:27):
No, he's a hockey player, and you know what, he's
got a mental hardness to him that he just goes
out and plays. And I haven't been a part of
many of those performances on the dot.
Speaker 15 (02:20:40):
When you go.
Speaker 34 (02:20:40):
Fifteen and oh so he does that, and karma has
a tendency to pay you back in this game. And
when you're honest there and doing things that he was
doing to score that goal, I thought was just you know,
for Fae to get that one off and one time
that and get the crowd into it a little bit.
Speaker 15 (02:20:57):
It was a really big play.
Speaker 5 (02:20:59):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (02:20:59):
And then you'll look at Daniel Howser. He wasn't tested
often early, but when he was tested, boy, he came
up big for you.
Speaker 8 (02:21:05):
Did he Yeah?
Speaker 5 (02:21:06):
He did.
Speaker 34 (02:21:06):
You know what he's He's a kid that just his
demeanor is something that you can see it out there.
He's just got to call him demeanor about himself and
how he does his business. And we left him out
on an island a couple of times tonight and he
definitely showed his worth.
Speaker 5 (02:21:20):
Yeah. What did you think of your team's overall play, Mike.
Speaker 15 (02:21:23):
Peaks and Valleys?
Speaker 34 (02:21:24):
You know, I mean, they're a team that you know
they're not going to afford check the heck out of you,
and I thought at times we created their offense through
our puck management. And you know, you sometimes you got
a true glass. It doesn't have to be pretty, but
you've got to take what they give you in so,
(02:21:45):
you know what, we'll we'll we'll look at the tape
and make some adjustments.
Speaker 5 (02:21:50):
And I did like our guys sticking with it.
Speaker 34 (02:21:53):
You're down one to a team that's got the goaltender
that they have, and but you know what, when you're
at home, you want to make sure you and the
fans home happy.
Speaker 5 (02:22:01):
And then we did tonight.
Speaker 3 (02:22:02):
Yeah, you know, there were a couple of times up
here where I looked at Ian I thought he was
going to fall over, just the passes up the middle
of the ice that Minnesota State seemed to take advantage
of on occasion.
Speaker 34 (02:22:13):
You guys, yeah, outside the dots throwing pucks east and west.
But I am going to say this, it's that's game
three for our team, and we've got to mature in
that manner. And when you can mature when you're winning
a hockey game, or at least tie in a game
the way we did coming from behind, it's it's better
than the alternative.
Speaker 5 (02:22:31):
Ironically, I said, the play of the game was finly
hitting the pipe that set the building on fire. Everything
was gone, and after that, you guys were just no
holds barred.
Speaker 34 (02:22:45):
You know what, I did think we started to push,
you know, I didn't think we got off to the
greatest start. But you know what it's like, I said,
it's stuck to the tape.
Speaker 3 (02:22:54):
So we'll look at it.
Speaker 34 (02:22:55):
And you know, when you're playing a team like that,
you're going to be challenge and we were tonight, and
as I said, I'm glad you found a way to
get it back to even.
Speaker 5 (02:23:04):
All right, Mike, thanks for your time, Good luck tomorrow,
Thank you. All right.
Speaker 3 (02:23:07):
Sure, that's head coach Mike Hastings downstairs and the Badgers
a one to one overtime tie with Minnesota State. Yeah,
you want everything to be perfect, but his point is
well taken. It's game three of the regular season, game
four of this season, counting the exhibition a week ago tonight,
a lot of new faces, a few new positions.
Speaker 5 (02:23:28):
New goaltender. So yeah, a lot of learning still happening
with Wisconsin hockey. I will honestly say, though, if as
an outsider looking in, if I came to this game
and saw Mike Hastings coaching against Luke Strand, you know
it's going to be a two to one, one to
one game, and whoever wins the battle of turnovers is
going to win the game. That's all there is to it.
Speaker 3 (02:23:48):
And the Badgers and the Mavericks, well they end in
a one to one overtime tie. Here tonight, hope to
hear from Oliver Tulkien again. Highlights are coming up. This

and uh. We thought it might be a nail bider
or a tight game this evening. It certainly was. Here
are the calls of the game. WiLAN Bonkowski sent out
towards center ice and taken there by the Badgers in
a turnover. Here's a chance now for Minnesota State taking
Howser stop the buck where is it? It's underneath and
(02:28:20):
a breakaway by Simosa denied by Howser early on. Back
on the attack ons Minnesota State man open backside pass slot,

Osburn up to center stick Candling lost it. Able to

It's one to one.
Speaker 3 (02:29:12):
Minnesota State two on one the other way, Smith left
wing looking Zenerberg hill shoot. Paul Howlser with a great
save as he slids to his left, keeping in a
one to one game. Bruno Jon big left hander, right
side down the middle. Ea com stick handlake That Candy
scares Oh. He walked right down in the middle, tapping
the puck fore him back in for him, back in
(02:29:34):
tuck the backhander pass Tracy. The Badgers win the shootout
here in the home opener. Ers won the exhibition shootout
in the fourth rounds. Bruno Egen got that goal. It
doesn't count in the score book, but nevertheless, it's always
fun to at least feel like you had some sort
of result, and oftentimes ties feel like you lost. Mike
(02:29:59):
Casting electing to make it feel more like they won.
The Badgers were down a goal in the third period
and you know, played, went to overtime, win a shootout.
You know again, last year the Badgers played in twelve
overtime games, lost seven of them, tie three of them.
So late game situations were an issue last year. It's
(02:30:20):
an entirely new year and maybe here the Badgers will
gain some confidence from the result they had.
Speaker 5 (02:30:25):
Well, if they've got that young man in net, I
think they will, right, I'm pretty sure that they will. Yeah.
So again.
Speaker 3 (02:30:33):
The only scoring tonight in regulation, Luigi Benni Casa scored
the long goal from Minnesota State at twelve fifty nine
of the second period. Assists went to Tristan Lemir and
Green Bay native Jacob Conrad. So won nothing Minnesota State
after one the Badgers tied it. Oliver Tulk did get
credit for the goal at seven seventeen, and I thought
(02:30:56):
I called it properly originally, and then I saw Tassy
sell brading and then he was the first one to
the Badger bench for reckles. So oftentimes, if if you're
leading the charge back to the bench to get congratulations,
you're the one that scored. But it was Tulk who
tucked in the It must have gone off Tassy because
he gets the primary assist, Jack Falan the secondary. It
came at seven to seventeen, so Tulk's first goal as
(02:31:19):
a Badger that proved to be the game tying goal.
Neither team could finish in overtime, and then Wisconsin won
in a four round shootout final shots on goal. The
Badgers tonight finished with what was it thirty shots on
goal tonight, only one in o t while Minnesota State
had twenty two shots on goal. Daniel Hauser twenty one
(02:31:39):
saves this evening, he'll earn the tie. His record now
two to zero to one. Tracy made twenty nine saves.
Alex Tracy his record now won one and one. Both
teams three penalties for six minutes. Both teams zero for
three on the power play. Wisconsin won thirty one of
forty seven face offs. Oliver tulk An incredible fifteen of
fifteen in the faceoff circles. Meanwhile, Minnesota State block nineteen shots.
(02:32:02):
Their captain, Mason Wheeler had five of them. Joe Poladachuk
had three of Wisconsin's twelve block shots. Tonight's attendance here
at the Cole Center was not announced, at least not
that I saw. I'm still looking for the final attendance numbers.
Speaker 5 (02:32:19):
Do I have them? Here we go?
Speaker 3 (02:32:21):
Six, five hundred and fifty five the announced attendance here tonight,
A game that took two hours and seventeen minutes to play,
the Badgers and the Mavericks at one one overtime time.
Speaker 5 (02:32:31):
About five thousand them were the very vocal and enthusiastic
student section.
Speaker 3 (02:32:37):
Yeah, students were here in a lot of Minnesota state
fans were here as well. So the Badgers and Mavericks
finish in an overtime draw and they'll play this series
finale tomorrow night. We'll tell you about that and wrap
things up in a moment. This is Badger Hockey from Learfield.

more would you like to see from the CARDL and
White tomorrow night. Obviously, I'd like to see them shoot more,
and being into old defenseman and understanding what Mike case
Things talked about, I would like to see zero turnovers
at the offense or defensive blue line, if I could
(02:35:25):
possibly get that. And again it's just a I know
you're in the offensive zone and the defenseman seems to
be open, but man, that's just a recipe for disaster
if they keep turning the puck over from the boards
to the center of the ice. We saw what three three, two,
three breakaways in a row by man Cato, so clean
(02:35:45):
up that. Mentally, I think pound for pound they're better
offensively and just as good defensively. But I'll tell you
what this is. This is a goaltending show that I
really enjoyed. Yeah, Alis say the least.
Speaker 3 (02:35:59):
Alex Racy was good for Minnesota State and Daniel Hauser
very good for Wisconsin as well.
