Now.
Speaker 1 (00:54):
Here's the voice of Badger Hockey, Brian Posick, Bobby.
Speaker 2 (00:58):
And parent Hair at the center as the Badgers and
Minnesota State set for their series finale. These teams will
meet again next year in man Cato next October. You know,
Mike Hastings kind of downplayed this a little bit. This
is the school, the program in Minnesota State he helped build
into a very respectable championship program and then left man
(01:20):
Cato to come to the University of Wisconsin. Playing the
Mavericks here in this building is one thing. Playing the
Mavericks in man Cato next October will be entirely different.
Speaker 6 (01:31):
Well, the one thing that I will have to say,
and I've talked at length with several of the league
coaches that man Cato is involved with, in this quote
unquote the CCHA, whatever you want to say about it.
And this is not a negative knock on anybody in
but yep, the CCHA top to bottom is not a
powerhouse conference like Hockey East, like the WCCHA, like the
(01:56):
Big ten. Yep, there are and for lack of a
better terminology, some weak sisters in that in that conference
when they're there, And I've talked about it with some
of the pro scouts and they said, yeah, you're Unfortunately
they're not the biggest schools, they're not the wealthiest schools.
But the thing that kind of sets them apart from
(02:19):
everybody else is that they have climbed them out, most
of them from Division two, three to two to one.
Speaker 5 (02:25):
Yep, and they're just damn happy to be there.
Speaker 2 (02:28):
Yeah, like a Bimiji State or a Minnesota State or
a Saint Thomas exactly Michigan Tech Augustana, a three year
old program that is making waves already. Lake Superior State,
Farris State, Northern Michigan that makes up the Central Collegiate
Hockey Association. Minnesota State picked by League coaches to win
(02:49):
the CCHA this year. Saint Thomas picked by League media
to win the CCHA this year in Minnesota State and
Saint Thomas will open conference play October thirty first and
November one, you know, home and home series in Minnesota.
All right, we're underway here at the Cole Center of
the opening Facebook rountry by Odyssey. Greek Yogurt and Jack
Falan immediately goes head and shoulders one on one with
(03:12):
Sawyer Shul right by the Badger bench, roughing each other up.
Here's Tristian Fitzgerald on the fly, fires a shot that
may have hit the chin of the goaltender Tracy.
Speaker 5 (03:20):
He fought it off.
Speaker 2 (03:21):
Badgers have to retreat to center ice to pick up
the puck. Here's Fitzgerald, now four goals two weeks ago,
third Star of the Week in the Big Ten for
his efforts against Lyndon Wood, playing with Oliver Tulk, who
forces a turnover. Try to flip the pass out of
the blue line gathered in by Fitzgerald. Now Platochuck shoots
one kneeling the goaltender Alex Tracy. He gloves it and
(03:42):
hangs on Alex Tracy again. He's from Chicago, Illinois won
a Clark Cup championship under Luke Strand and Sioux City
back in twenty twenty two. He's playing his eightieth career
game for Minnesota stateiu's forty six wins, twenty three losses,
eight ties, a one to ninety three career goals against
average in a nine to twenty six a percentage. Very
(04:04):
impressive numbers. After replacing Dryden McKay, another fantastic goaltender wore
purple and gold.
Speaker 6 (04:12):
I got in a situation where I stepped on you,
but I'll tell you what Jack feeling. He puts Lawyer
into the Badger bench. I don't even want to know
what went on when his head was down inside the bench.
Speaker 2 (04:23):
Good breakout by Minnesota State their fourth line. Jacob Stenders centering,
Reed Morrick and Felix Gabbers. Badgers take it away. Here's
plata Chuck left wing pass. Morrissey waddles down the wall
and then threw a pass right to the middle of
the ice, intercepted by Gabbers, hands off to Stender, now
defended by Osburne, passed to Morrick, bumped off balance by Tassi,
good back checked by Tassi, preventing work from getting a
(04:45):
shot off as he was entering a dangerous scoring area.
Speaker 6 (04:48):
I think they were thought that there was going to
be a legitimate three on two or four on three,
and Simon Tassi very silently just stuck snuck right up
behind him and said, here, give me the puck.
Speaker 2 (04:57):
And now Minnesota State puts up its wall at the
neutral zone, A one two two neutral zone. What would
you call it trap? It's they clog up the middle
and they prevent it from really getting your transition game going.
So the Badgers need to be a bit more patient
and possessed the puck a little bit better than they
did a here last night. There's Jack Horback able to
(05:17):
side step one man, feeds ahead to Grady Deering, freshman centerman,
he'll sweep it in. Freshman forward Blake Montgomery after it
had it chopped off his stick. Horbock with the puck,
took a hip check, tried to pass it to Deering,
got knocked off balance, batted back to him and then
the Badgers put it deep. Now the Mavericks rimming around
and out two minutes in no score. Wisconsin and Minnesota state.
(05:39):
The captain Ben deck Sheimer across the red line will
whip it around off the glass and Dasher to the
left wing down the wall comes the Sely Zillanoff. Nice
pass out to the point Famelan thought about shooting instead,
dex sheimert right put it in front. Oh E John
couldn't get his stick on it. Zillanoff was on the
back door. He couldn't reach it either could look that
time though by deck Sheimer and now Kuchen and throws
(05:59):
the puck off the body of the defenseman Ryland Bankowski
bumping at center ices Ron and Kuchen and Badgers have it.
E John because of the slot, fires went into the
belly of Tracy, who gathers and hangs on oh E
John with a nice move left to get to the slot.
Speaker 5 (06:14):
And he really peppered Tracy with that shot.
Speaker 6 (06:17):
He kind of faked the shot, shot past whatever you
want to call it, forces a defenseman to stand up
like he's going to block the shot. And then Ejohn
just took one step to the left and got the
shot off very quickly. That's pretty much textbook is how
you're supposed to score those goals.
Speaker 2 (06:32):
Twenty five goals, forty seven points and only forty two
games with the Lincoln Stars in the USHL last year.
He came over after playing hockey overseas. He's from Croatia.
The first Croatian actually selected in the National Hockey League drafts,
a sixth round pick.
Speaker 5 (06:49):
By Ottawa this past summer.
Speaker 2 (06:52):
Bruno E John Ida North baron me team Badger North.
Speaker 5 (06:58):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (06:58):
Right now, there's four Ottawa Senator draft choices, E John
and Montgomery Hensler, a first round pick, and then Tyson Dick,
a seventh rounder.
Speaker 5 (07:09):
A few years ago.
Speaker 2 (07:10):
Minnesota State with a puck, Conrad bumps it ahead, but
with a puck on his stick as Logan Hensler, He's
pressured by ben in Casa, who forced a turnover. Hensler
getting helped now from Tulk, but Minnesota State with possession,
Evan Murray swings at to Conrad left handed defenseman back
banks it off the end boards out of the reach
of Sawyer Shual Benning Kasa then sweeps it back towards Shoal.
(07:31):
He couldn't catch that pass. They move it out to
the point and Conrad can't hold his own. A little
over three minutes gone by here in this opening period
of the Badgers in Minnesota State. No score last night,
the first time these teams had met since the twenty
thirteen WCCHA Final five in Saint Paul, a long long
time ago. Here's Joe Paladachuck now pokes the buck around
(07:55):
the boards. Out of the Wisconsin zone comes Morrissey cross
ice pass off a stick finally fell its way to
Simon Tassi. He'll poke it deep there as Evan brought beggar.
Pardon Finn Brink, who stumbles down and passed from behind
the net Morrissey to Tassy his one time attempt canceled
out by the Mavericks, and they'll dump it in on
Wisconsin goaltender Daniel Hauser, who then pushed it over for
(08:15):
Luke Osburn. Osburn fends off Felix Gabbers and Osburn will
skate it up the near side boards, flip the past
Brink hands off the Morrissey cuts into the offensive zone,
met with a shoulder by the defenseman rolfs Burg Manus
and now brenk In on the fore check squashed against
the wall. Minnesota State tries to exit its zone and
finally will with Morik go off to berg Manis gains
(08:36):
the red line and dumps it in fifteen forty left
here in the first no score. Three shots on goal
for the Badgers won so far from Minnesota State who
Osburn hesitated, almost copped up the puck is Alex Zetterberg
right in his face, and now Evan Murr the defense
been holding the zone and sweeps it down to the corners.
Zetterberg tried it between the legs, pass to the cutting
(08:57):
Jack Smith down the middle, didn't connect, and now Charlie Lurry,
a junior from Minnetonka with a puck. Here's Smith now
slot shot blocked by Montgomery office stick. Blake reaches for
it tries to gather it in. Instead, the Mavericks regained
possession and dump it deeper before Wisconsin's able to poke
it out to Jack Horbach, who fights through some physicality,
(09:19):
as does Wisconsin's Aiden Dubinsky the address on side, but
lose the handle and now it's back to neutral ice
in Minnesota State will dump it in a little over
five minutes gone by. In this scoreless first period.
Speaker 6 (09:30):
Second shift in a row where Finn Brink has replaced
Ryan Botterol on left wing. Brian started with one pretty
positive shift, but something must have happened.
Speaker 2 (09:40):
Bottle Roll's back out there now with Zillanoff and Koukainot.
Mike Hastings will shuffle things up a little bit with
the extra forward in his lineup tonight, playing with six
defensemen as junior Zach Schulz not available because of a
lower body injury and now Wisconsin's Dex Sheimer slides down
into the boards. He's all right as he made contact
(10:00):
with a puck. The Badgeries having a hard time not
only gaining possession in the offensive zone but maintaining it,
and they'll dump and chase once again. Kukin in after
the defenseman berg manis but he one hands it around
to Bonkowski, who fires a pass across to his brother
Rylan and then a hit right at the center ice
line between the benches Zelanoff and the Selys. Zilanoff just
(10:23):
crushed one of the Mavericks. That looks like Rylan Bonkowski
went down. He's up on his skates and appears to
be okay, but.
Speaker 6 (10:29):
No question whether it's going to be a five checking
from behind or just a boarding call.
Speaker 2 (10:33):
Zillanoff, at six feet one hundred and ninety three pounds,
was skating to the penalty box, but one of the referees,
both now Colin Kronforced and Jake Rikuki, will go to
the video replay monitor to determine whether Zillanoff will.
Speaker 5 (10:48):
Remain in the game or head to the locker.
Speaker 2 (10:52):
Was a dangerous hit by Zillanoff, as the defenseman Bonkowski
had his head down after he back handed into the
off defensive Zee. Thankfully, his head was up and the
crown of his head did not hit the sideboard ski
and more of his face mask hit the shelf. He
got up and appeared to be just fine, and the
referees quickly out of the box. Five minute major in
(11:18):
a game misconduct for boarding on zelenof so Minnesota State
will get a five minute power play at the five
point fifty seven mark of this opening period.
Speaker 6 (11:30):
Ouch, I'm not sure that was justified just in the
one replay that we saw, I don't think it was justified.
But the fact of the matter being is that he
did push him into the boards. He went down there
was no head contact or anything, so not sure how
that trans transforms into a five minute major.
Speaker 2 (11:55):
But it does and right now Bottleol will serve the
five minutes to zellenof Wisconsin's penalty kill will be put
to the test. Three for three last night on the Peak,
he gave up only two shots on goal in six
minutes short handed. The Badgers have allowed two power play
goals on fourteen tries so far this season. Morrissey is
on the ice with Horbock, Dubinski and Polada Chuck and
(12:19):
a nice job by Morrissey to win the face off
and Horbock able to deflect it through center in Minnesota
State back to get it five minute power play from
Minnesota State. It can continue even if the Mavericks score
score as many times as you possibly can. The Badgers
slow their progress near the Wisconsin blue line and play
it back to neutral ice. Morrissey and Horbock remain. Now
(12:41):
Finley's out there. Morrissey will head to the bench here
in a moment, pass to the right wing and Benicosa
will track it down in the right corner. Ran into
Poladachuck lost the handle, but finds murr Out at the
point Evan Murr right handed defenseman to Lurry, the left
hander at the right wing back to Murr top of
the right circle, shoots one through traffic off, but the
body of Houser may have skipped off the pipe to
(13:01):
the New Yark corner. And now here's Lurie backside, wide open.
Bening Cossap put it in front, never got through. Morrick
was knocked down right on top of the Badger's netminder.
Howser back up on his skates. A triangular pass intended
in the middle for Liam Watkins didn't connect, and now
they'll try again. Morrik at the left goal line. Power
play from Minnesota State. A minute gone by and the
(13:22):
five minute major is in. It off and now Lurie
picked up his head as he tried a one time
or fan do on it regains possession. Merr steps in
far side and the shot by betting Kasa got through
and a stick's ate made by Owser.
Speaker 5 (13:34):
He gave up no rebound.
Speaker 2 (13:35):
Badgers protect their goals, thatt Or as the line's been
getting there quickly.
Speaker 6 (13:39):
Yeah, a lot of uh almost like the Badger's power
play was last night. A lot of work around the perimeter,
but nothing penetrating anywhere close and all it takes is
one missed pass like Minnesota had just had. Minnesota State
just had in order to get the face off and
get some fresh legs out there.
Speaker 2 (13:58):
Mavericks so for three on the power play last night,
five for seventeen in the three games they played so far.
Once again, the Badgers win the face off. Nice job.
Horbock then went streaking down into the Minnesota State zone
as the Badgers cleared it all the way down. Horback
then tried to center, and the puck went airborne and
dropped to the left of Tracy near the cage, and
Tracy just paddled it back and here comes Conrad bad
(14:20):
pass picked off by Horbock. Chance for a two on
one short handed. Horbock left wing charges in, can't get
a shot off. No pedalty called either. It looked like
Horback had his arms lifted. Fitzgerald couldn't reach the loose
puck head. Now Minnesota State back the other way.
Speaker 6 (14:33):
Oh boy, I don't think that Horbach had any idea
that Fitzgerald was read that tight with him.
Speaker 2 (14:40):
Horbock was coming in left wing and then veered towards
the net and tried to take it right in on
Alex Tracy and Fitzgerald charging down the middle of the ice.
A little over two minutes, I beg your pardon, little
less than three minutes left on the powerplay from Minnesota
states with it right now, Tristan Lemire out to the
point it's Conrad thought of out shooting will not far
(15:01):
side Zetterberg. Little right hander flips a pass cross ice
intended for Jordan Ron. He tries to settle it down.
Now Zetterberg with a blast falling off by Wisconsin goldtender
Daniel Hauser.
Speaker 5 (15:11):
The goal comes up off its moorings and is.
Speaker 2 (15:13):
Still up on the back end, now down but leaning
on top of the pegs, not all the way down
on the ice surface. And so the referee blows the
whistle to stop play. And now Fitzgerald and Zetterberg need
to be separated as the linesman gets in the way
of those two, that being Riley Bowles.
Speaker 5 (15:31):
Officially, the call will be.
Speaker 6 (15:34):
I don't know who actually dislodged the net, but it
came off of its pegs and slid back about an
inch two inches. Whatever the case may be, I'd be
hard pressed for them to not contend that the base
off shouldn't be outside because there was a Mancato stick broken.
Speaker 5 (15:53):
Behind the net.
Speaker 6 (15:54):
Yeah, making my assumption that a man Cato player broke
it on the net, Yeah, Jack just lodged it.
Speaker 2 (16:00):
It looked like Jack Smith got his knee caught up
in the netting behind the cage, and as he was
trying to regain his balance and get back on both skates,
he leaned into the goal.
Speaker 5 (16:12):
And knocked it up and outs.
Speaker 2 (16:13):
And now we've got a whistle and a cross checking
penalty coming up here, and it looks that'll go against
Jack Falin, Wisconsin's Jack Falin, and so Minnesota State's going
to get a five on three power play for a
two full minutes. Falan gets the gate at eight thirty five.
Speaker 6 (16:31):
Can I retract coach Hastings statement the best way to
kill a penalties is.
Speaker 5 (16:36):
Not take them. Yeah.
Speaker 6 (16:39):
I didn't actually see what happened there, but I just
saw the Minnesota State player hit the ice.
Speaker 5 (16:45):
Scary. Jack's bigger and stronger and smarter than that.
Speaker 2 (16:50):
So the Badger's down two men a scoreless game here
nearing the halfway point of the opening period at the
Coal Center, five on three power play for Minnesota State Zetterberg.
Speaker 5 (17:00):
Murr far side.
Speaker 2 (17:01):
It's Benning Kasa, back to Merz straight away, back to
Benning Kasa catches at the left, DoD fumbled it for
a moment, now passes to Mr straight Away right side
at Zedterberg leaning in his shot block by Wisconsin's Poladachuck.
He bus free. Morrissey picked up the puck and back
handed it down. Poladachuck wisely just took a right hand
turn and went to the bench for fresh penalty collers.
Speaker 6 (17:23):
It may not seem like he was that tiring for
them to stand there and just make a couple stops
and starts, but mentally it's just exhausting.
Speaker 2 (17:30):
Here's Mr now center points Lemir back to Mr. Lamir
wants it left wing, Catches, thought about shooting, didn't now Zetterberg.
He's at the point Bening Casa. They throw it to
Zetterberg again. Lemiir wanted a one timer. Again, elected not
to shoot. Benning Casa circles his way to the slot,
shoots one and a right arm save made by Houser
(17:53):
fifty five seconds left in the five on three power
play from Minnesota State scoreless first period shot save House
a rebound no he got his right, then left on
it too as Jack Smith was on the doorstep Thatchers
can't clear, held in by Zetterberg. Forty five seconds left
on the man Cato five on three to Here's lemiir Zederberg.
Speaker 5 (18:11):
He passes far side Benny.
Speaker 2 (18:12):
So with a bullet over the left shoulder of Houser
five on three power play goal.
Speaker 5 (18:17):
Minnesota State as the early lead.
Speaker 6 (18:20):
Five on three power play goal and just thirty eight
seconds left in the Minnesota power play and that was
the only shot that found the net. Didn't the goaltender
have a chance at to be honest with you, and
it was a rocket. Why they're not shooting from there
more often? I have no idea, But we'll have to
(18:42):
wait and see who they give the assists to. But again,
ben Cossa really got a rifle, Yes he does.
Speaker 2 (18:49):
Luigi Benincasa from Edmonton Fair Estate Transfer with his second
goal of the year comes at nine to fifty eight,
a five on three power play goal. Minnesota State still
has a full minute of five on four power play hockey.
Although the Badgers get to it and clear it all
the way down, Tracy stumbles back to his net as
he left the puck behind his cage and now Morrick
(19:12):
will drop off to Murr.
Speaker 6 (19:13):
Finley saw that, and you know he took that shot
from outside the blue line.
Speaker 5 (19:16):
He thought he could have scored. That was a good play.
Speaker 2 (19:19):
Wisconsin trailing Minnesota State for his second straight nights. Buck
on the far side Wall Luriy fights through the check
from Fitzgerald, but gave it away and Aiden Dubinski will
send it all the way down for the Badgers. Twenty
five seconds left on the Minnesota State power play one nothing.
Speaker 5 (19:36):
Mavericks kill this off and that'll be a blessing.
Speaker 2 (19:39):
Benning Casa from Zeterberg at nine fifty eights Alex Zetterberg
the bu transfer. It looks like a pretty good one.
Gaver's had the puck and then had it stripped from
behind by Morrissey. One on two. Morrissey fans off to
his right, comes across the line, met by Benning Casa
and Gavin Alects to throw it to the corner, but
the Badgers get that power play killed off. Minnesota State
(20:01):
one for two on the man advantage. As possession across
the line comes Jacob Stender. Stender drops it back to
the point and the defenseman Mason Wheeler shot on save
by Houser pad Say it slid to his left, picked
up by Gabbers, tried to push it back in front, deflected.
Badgers now control. Here's Bottrell flying in right away and
threw it backside for Oliver. Tulk couldn't get his stick
(20:22):
down as he was defended on the rush. Here comes Gabbers,
now left wing it that breaks as dex Sheimer met
him near the wall. Dex Sheimer gets some help from
Tassie and the Badgers pick it up. Botterrel slides it
over to Tulk across the line. Sausted deep Bottlerel will
get there first for the Badgers. Botterrel Tulk O. Wait
two out of one timer it comes out to dex
Sheimer has shot off of sticking up off the glass
behind the cage, taken now by Lurry, PopEd out towards
(20:44):
center by Stender. Never got to neutral Ice and the
Badgers dup it back in eight ten to go in
the first Wisconsin trailing one nothing now Lurry poked it
a head towards the red line. Dex Seimer got in
the way, freed the biscuit for Joe Pullata Chuck, who
angles a pass off the near wall to e John
passed behind Deering, but he drew it to his forehead.
(21:05):
Now Montgomery slalom's right, then left to the corner Blake.
Montgomery draws two Mavericks his way. Deering puts his shoulder
into burg Manus. Montgomery throws his body around two. But
the Mavericks currently have possession.
Speaker 6 (21:17):
And feeling there was a little initiative given from the
bench start laying the body.
Speaker 2 (21:23):
Yeah, they talked about it this morning. He had their
pregame meeting and again prior to the game to nights.
Now Wisconsin's Deering trying to stick candle through traffic, lost it.
Montgomery stays out there. Deering remains as well, gets his
body into full motion as he bumps into the extra
defenseman Lean Pupka and now Sawyer's shoulder Dubinsky. Dubinsky pulled
(21:46):
him down. Otherwise he had a straight lane of the
badger's net. Another penalty on Wisconsin. Another power play for
Minnesota state coming up seven fourteen to go in the
opening period, Mavericks lead won nothing. We're at the rail
Transport broadcast Boo rail Transport. For every mile of your
truck driving career, We'll be back in a moment.
Speaker 5 (22:04):
This is Badger hockey from their field.
Speaker 7 (22:07):
Badgers are born brave. They're not afraid to face a
tough opponent or take on the impossible. A UW Health
Carbone Cancer Center, our team of doctors take on cancer
with that same Badger stamina. Where others step back, we
step up, researching, treating, and defeating even the most complex cancers,
making us the only NCI designated comprehensive cancer center in
(22:27):
the state. So now, from stadium to hospital, you can
count on Wisconsin and w Health to fight and win.
UW Health Carbone Cancer Center remarkable.
Speaker 8 (22:38):
I'm Sawyer and I'm Shannon.
Speaker 9 (22:39):
Together we're Twin Stuns, the only twin motorcycle freestyle show

we want all our fellow cheese heads to know that.
Speaker 8 (22:49):
Even though we clutch it up, hit twelve and drift
in our show.
Speaker 4 (22:53):
We would never do it on the open road.
Speaker 8 (22:55):
And there's another thing we would never do on.
Speaker 9 (22:57):

Speaker 2 (23:06):
Dot Benards is a proud sponsor at Badger athletics and
reminds everyone to save big money on all your home
improvement needs. At Manard's Badgers take another penalty the third
of the first period, Aid and Dubinski for holding. At
twelve forty six, Minnesota State already has a five on
(23:28):
three power play goal, now getting a third crack on
the man advantage leading one nothing.
Speaker 6 (23:33):
Not to say that it was a necessary penalty, but
I think if he would Dovinsky wouldn't have held him down.
Speaker 5 (23:37):
It would have been a breakaway.
Speaker 2 (23:39):
Falan pull outa chuck with Morrissey and Horback on the
pk ride now Minnesota State hard work in the corner,
wins the puck to the point and gets things started.
Luriy down to the corner. Moric sweeps it around far
side with it now Watkins to the left wing in Benincasa,
Murr back to Benincasa, cross ice and tennant for Luriy.
Good stick by Jack Horback, one of the best penalty
(23:59):
killers college hockey man. He really can replays, can't he
work of aholic?
Speaker 6 (24:04):
I've lived off the face off of his partner last
year and just got himself open and nice pass.
Speaker 2 (24:12):
Here's Morrik out the Murr longrite shot and Hawser can't
find it. Benning Cassa picks up the loose change and
beats Howser low right. Another power play goal for Luigi
Benning Casa. It's to nothing Minnesota State.
Speaker 6 (24:26):
I'm not sure if he would got the initial shot
or whether Lurie was a gentleman on the far side
who may have punched it in on the backside. I
have to wait for the replay, but regardless, it's too
zip and that's the second power play goal for Minnesota State.
Speaker 2 (24:44):
Oh, it is Lurie, not Benning Casa. It was Charlie
Lurry on the doorstep. Beningkassa was right behind him and
began celebrating. Give Luriy the goal on the power play
at thirteen twenty eight, playing with firey and.
Speaker 6 (24:57):
Points shot rebound a lot of traffic in front. Because
luck would have it, it pops up and goes into their
onto their stick rather than a badger stick yep.
Speaker 2 (25:08):
Luriy left the re beggar pardon Owser left the rebound,
Lurry picked it up and scored. Charlie Lurry spent two
years in Omaha, only only played twenty four games for
the Mavericks. Before transferring to Minnesota States. And he's off
to a pretty good start for Luke Strand squad lurry
from murr at thirteen twenty eight to nothing Minnesota State
(25:34):
and Wisconsin Hensler between his legs able to flip a
pass cross ice to Oliver Tulky's immediately met by defenseman
Campbell's psychos Badger's regroup come across the line. Kuchanin forced
wide right goal line right, put it off the stick
of the goldtender Alex Tracy, who was covering the far
side post at ricocheted out through neutral Osbourne counter sends
(25:55):
it to Kuchanan who will dump it down in the
Badgers in the midst of a change.
Speaker 5 (25:59):
Yeah, that makes it through and talks just to tapping
it in.
Speaker 2 (26:02):
Yeah, and now the puck back out to neutral ice,
flying over Charlie Lurie with it pass intended for Smith
coming down the middle, just out of his reach. Smith
met by Wisconsin's Osburn. One of the Mavericks falls down
below the goal line. Wisconsin's Dubinsky backhands it up off
the glass too strongly and Ice the puck. With five
(26:22):
oh eight to go in the first period of play,
Badger fans, if you're listening to this right now, it's
time for a reward. Reward your full time fandom with
an ice cold Modello Modello brood for full time Badger fans.
Two nothing Minnesota State offensive zone face off coming up
here for the Mavericks.
Speaker 6 (26:42):
And against the team that annually plays some of the
most tight defense that there is. Almost bores you to death.
So yeah, the two power play goals are backbreakers.
Speaker 2 (26:59):
And here's a team that their goaltender the second team
West All American last year. Alex Tracy last season didn't
give up more than three goals in a game all
season long, didn't give up any more than three.
Speaker 6 (27:12):
That's a reflection of him and the system that coach
Strand has.
Speaker 5 (27:17):
Here at Minnesota State.
Speaker 2 (27:18):
He did give up five in the season opener this
year down in Omaha, lost six to two, but then
has since bounce back and allowed only one goal in
each of the two games he's played. Minnesota State with
a two to nothing lead, merr will dump it in
and his attempt to go to the corner actually hit
the ankle of Jake Rokuki, the referee, and he went
down like a dead birch tree.
Speaker 5 (27:38):
That's okay.
Speaker 6 (27:39):
He's the guy that called a five minute major retribution.
I hope he's all right. That looked like it's stung.
Now here comes Wisconsin Plata chuck left wing. Montgomery tries
an escape move and falls down, gets the puck back,
wings a pass through the slot. Brink after it plays
it to the point. Horbach, his pass intended from Montgomery
taken away. Hornback knocked out at center. Fans want a penalty.
(28:02):
Nothing called. Horbach eludes the contact from Watkins and coughed
it up. And now Finn Brink battling back, allowing the
Badgers to get possession back in their own zone. Blake
Montgomery nice bump pass off the wall for Brink, thought
about shooting. Now he does not much on it, partially
deflected by the defenseman Wheeler to nothing. Minnesota state under
four minutes to go in the opening period. And now
(28:24):
with it is Jacob Bonkowski and he'll send it into
the Wisconsin zone and Falin back to get it for
the Badgers. Falan breakout pass to Brink. Brink of the
red line will scoop it deep. He needs a change.
Here's e john In on the fore check. Finley as well,
Quinn feathers it back behind the cage. E John cut off,
(28:45):
Wheeler releases a pass. Fitzgerald with a hit, got the
puck to Osburn. He waddles back behind the net. Luke
Osburn hits the brakes back behind the cage, turning pass
intended for Fitzgerald. He took a swing at it went
off his legs now Dubinsky out high, Finley his snapshot.
Speaker 5 (29:00):
Whoa, it just went wide.
Speaker 2 (29:01):
Here's Osburn now able to hold the zone as he
pinched down the wall. Three minutes to go in the
first Badger's trying to get on the board and cut
Minnesota State's lead in half. And now the Mavericks elected
just fire it off the glass. That'll be icing on
Minnesota State with two point fifty two remaining in this
opening period.
Speaker 6 (29:18):
Good intensity for about thirty five seconds. Really Badgers had
them hemmed in their own zone like you wouldn't believe.
And one quality shot from Quinn Finley in the slot
hit something in front.
Speaker 5 (29:29):
Could have been a goal.
Speaker 6 (29:30):
Maybe not, but now that device to puck, Minnesota State
is not allowed to make a change and the Badgers
will be able to put out five fresh new skaters yep.
Speaker 2 (29:38):
Morrissey with botter Ol, Tassi pull outa chuck, and Hensler.
Ten shots on goal for Minnesota State, most of those
coming on their three power plays. One was a five
minute major power play after Vasili Zillanoff got kicked out
of the game for boarding. Minnesota State wins the draw,
skates it out to center rink wide, pass goes airborne
(29:59):
and the Badger pick up a loose puck at manning.
Now Morrissey across the line left wing Ale shoot one
and a knee saved made by Tracy Ricochet to the
far side. Tassi puts it behind the net. Centering passed
by Morrissey, but Wisconsin's bottle Roll was defended, couldn't reach
the pass, and now Morrissey able to deflect it back
into the attacking zone. With two twenty three to go
in the first to nothing, Minnesota States ben Incosa with
(30:23):
a five on three power play goal, Lurie with a
five on four man advantage goal. Here's Botteroll with a
chance left circles blocked by Hupka Ricochet farside. Another centering
pass intended for Bottrel never reached him. Dex Sheimer tried
to hold as he was back pedaling out of the
offensive zone, unable to do so, and then dex Sheimer
back in his own end. All my castings talked about
(30:44):
it last night. One of the bright spots of the
one to one overtime ty was being able to bounce
back after trailing, especially in the third period. Badgers got
it done here. Though they're down a pair. Last night
was only a one goal deficit. They're down too early.
Steele by Fitzgerald stop by Trophy rebound. Finley couldn't handle
the bouncing puck. He was just a few feet away
(31:04):
from the Minnesota state netminer as he picked up or
tried to pick up the rebound. Finley with a good
shoulder check on Benning Casa and now the Badgers have
the puck across the line. Finley tried to dump it in,
lost it, got it back one Hans to Fitzgerald cuts
in backhand shot and Tracy closed the door as he
put his paths together. And then Finley just got big
(31:25):
out of face. And we've got matching penalties, I think
coming up here.
Speaker 6 (31:29):
And them, we're gonna call matching penalties. But if I
was coach Hastings, I'd be going. Hey, that was a
five minute shot to the head.
Speaker 2 (31:36):
Time out on the ice, one twenty two to go
in the first Minnesota state with a two to nothing lead.

Wild turnaround pass by Fitzgerald intended for Tulk left wing,
intercepted by Minnesota State's Campbell, Psychos bigger right and a

and his pass was deflected on goal and Hauser had
to put his left bad down, stopped it and covered,
(34:02):
and then four Badgers converge on two Mavericks on the
backboards behind Daniel Hawser to the left, and then Jack
Smith went down. He seemed to be fine, although he's
pleading his case with a referee, and now Christian Fitzgerald
doing the same with referee Colin cronforst.

Yeah, all the little stuff that goes on, you know,

thought about shooting. Montgomery's got it right wing fakes delays,
(34:59):
now slight towards the net, kind of a flip shot
from the slot, and Tracy leaned left and gloved it
and hung on with twelve point nine seconds to play
in the period.
Speaker 5 (35:09):
Okay, now this is what I don't understand.
Speaker 6 (35:11):
Sawyer Schohal lost his stick, grabs onto deering and drags
them out of the slot, but there's no penalty for holding.
I just don't I don't know what game the referee

Wisconsin's penalty, he's a five minute major for boarding on

Speaker 5 (40:14):
Tone for the rest of the period.
Speaker 6 (40:15):
You're right, I mean, you both teams are playing pretty
even and then all of a sudden you take a
five minute major with the game misconduct which is attached
to that. And it's interesting to me, is that coach Chastings,
who's already shuffling the lines just a little bit, yep.
But now he's got nothing to do with shuffling because
they're killing a penalty and then they take another penalty
(40:37):
and they're killing that, and it's all of a sudden,
your penalty killers are the guys who are getting ninety
percent of your time. So you have no idea what
the flow of the game's going to be like with

Trying and Ian here at the Coles Center, still a
couple of minutes away before the second period begins, the
Badger's trail Minnesota State two to nothing. And while we
have some time, you know, over the during the offseason,
we lost a few former Badger hockey players. Wayne Thomas
passed away. A fantastic goaltender, longtime front office man with
(41:56):
the San Jose Sharks, the very first Badger to play
in the NHL, the very first Badger to win a
Stanley Cup. Wayne Thomas was a very nice man and
sad to see him pass during the offseason.
Speaker 6 (42:08):
And not an elderly man by any stretch of the imagination,
and probably one of the nicest people you'd ever want
to meet. And because of his position, never really a
big time you know, with every NHL team. He could
never ever say, well, you know, we got to get
a Badger player because Badgers are the best, or whatever
(42:30):
it is. He was politically correct on pretty much all
of those type of agenda items when he was there,
but only got to meet him a couple of times,
and when he was with Saint Louis and Saint Louis
signed Curtis Joseph Yep. I happen to be invited up
to the front table at the press conference with Wayne Thomas,
and I looked right at him and I said, you know,
(42:52):
you're just going to cost me my job because Jeff
Sauer does not want him to sign. And his reply
to me was, with the money we're paying him, he
can go back and buy the universe Risconsin at one
good comments.
Speaker 2 (43:09):
We also lost two original Badgers from the modern era.
Milwaukee native John Van Dyke passed away during the offseason,
and so did Fritz Raggetts, who was born on my birthday.
He passed away on May twenty seventh. Fritz, one of
the nicest people you'll meet, went to Nacoma Grade School,
West High School, played for the Madison Cardinals after his
(43:31):
days at the University of Wisconsin. We wish his family
and his wife, Barbara all the best. Fritz Raggitts wrote
his own obituary, and in his obituary he said quote,
I have had a wonderful life and I only regret
not making more people laugh.
Speaker 5 (43:49):
He always had a joke bets. He was pretty.
Speaker 6 (43:53):
Relatively stoic person, but would just hit you with a
one liner.
Speaker 5 (43:58):
You would go seriously seriously Fritz. Yep, Yeah, I was.
Speaker 6 (44:04):
Caught a lot of people by surprise, to say the least.
And when I was a grad student and playing in
Oldzheimer's hockey with Jingles team, Fritz was a left handed
defense one with me and he would always say he
and you're a lot younger. So when I pass it
to you, don't give it back because I'm not skating
all the way down there, yes, sir.
Speaker 2 (44:24):
Starting the second period four on four is Quinn Finley
and Luigi Benningkasa, both in the penalty box for matching miners.
At the end of the first period, here's Oliver Tulk
on the attack with Christian Fitzgerald back behind the net,
forced there by Evan Murr. Buck slides off his stick,
tries to chase it down instead batted away from him,
and now Murr turns on the speed, gets around Tulk
across the Badger line. Right wing shot blocked, ricocheted out
(44:47):
by the line again, Smith left wing passed Alex Zedeberg.
Zedeberg the right hander straight away shoots one and redirected
by Smith and wide deck. Szheimer was defending Smith but
didn't engage his stick. It allowed him to read a
and he almost put it on.
Speaker 5 (45:01):
Yeah, don't tie up your hands, you're in trouble. And
then Smith just ran into Houser. No call.
Speaker 2 (45:06):
And now Finley out of the box right wing on
the rush, ships one past Tracy.
Speaker 5 (45:12):
The Badgers on the board just like.
Speaker 6 (45:14):
That, forty three seconds in, and as a mancato player,
you better be aware of when they're coming out of
the box. Just an amazingly nice pass right on the
backhand of Quinn Finley.
Speaker 5 (45:26):
I was surprised he didn't shoot in.
Speaker 6 (45:28):
We skate in a little bit farther but top of
the circles, and he just threaded the needle.
Speaker 5 (45:32):
Quinn Finley, you can shoot the puck, young man.
Speaker 2 (45:35):
Forty three seconds in, Finley buries his second goal of
the season. Had only one shot on goal last night,
rang the post in the second period as well, but
here tonight makes an impact right out of the penalty box.
The Badger's on the board down one in the first
minute of period number two, but both less. It breathes
a sigh of relief. Frankiel chasting, He's got the crowd
(45:57):
going too. Wisconsin's got the puck in its own zendfull
chuck now to Morrissey. The Badgers skating to our right,
pass off to Hensler across the line, slot shot by
Bottrel too high off the end boards. Hensler finds a
mantassy in front. He gets one, two cracks out of
Tracy makes the stops and then dives on the loose
puck and gets a whistle.
Speaker 6 (46:17):
Key to that is that the Badgers got behind the
net and dug the puck out. They were the first
people to the net on the fore check, march behind
the net on the fore check, and then Cassie and
I'm not sure who the other winger was, just park
themselves in front good and looking for any.
Speaker 2 (46:32):
Garbage that they could probably get face off to the
right of Alex. Tracy, who was perfect in the first period,
stopped all nine shots he faced from the Badgers. Daniel
Hauser stopped ten of twelve in the opening period. Four
Wisconsin give deck Sheimer and Tulk assists on Finley's second
goal with the forty three second mark of the second period.
(46:54):
Fifth point already this season for Oliver Tulk a goal
and four assists during Montgomery Kouchenan out for the Cardinal
in white The Badgers lose the face off though, and
the puck loose at the blue line. Dubinski lets it
go and we've got a whistle and they're going to
say intentional offside on Wisconsin.
Speaker 5 (47:14):
They're going to drop the puck back in the Badger's
own Now.
Speaker 6 (47:17):
They're calling unintentional because the referee had his arm up.
Everybody kind of looked around, and then I think it
was Dubinsky, I'm not sure who it was, stepped in
and just pushed the puck in offside. So yeah, it
is intentional. Unfortunate that I don't think he realized where
the face off was going to be.
Speaker 2 (47:36):
Grating daring to take the draw for Wisconsin. The freshman
centerman from Des Moines won the draw and Luke Osburn
has it behind his net, fears off to his left,
plays pitch and catch with Dubinsky. Luke hadn't gained the
red line as he tried to dump it in and
the line'sman got in the way of his attempt and
actually pickocheted off him and up into the Badger bench.
(47:58):
So they'll drop the puck again just outside the Wisconsin
blue line. Why that's where he shot it from. He
hadn't gained the red line yet. I thought they were
falling off side.
Speaker 5 (48:10):
No.
Speaker 2 (48:10):
No, he was trying to gain the red line and
then fired it up off the ref and out of play.
Speaker 5 (48:16):
So what about that general vicinity?
Speaker 6 (48:18):
Having one eye is really detrimental. Sometimes really having two
is a problem for me too. Sometimes you got to
keep the other one open.
Speaker 5 (48:26):
That's the key. He and.
Speaker 2 (48:30):
You had forty five into the second period, Badgers down
two to one. Pass to an open Nan Cavers, don't
buy Howser rebound out to the right wing and up
to fired one wide bad passed by burg Manus. Badgers
have a potential two on one right side. Montgomery stops
slowly slides a pass Ausburn shot stop by. Tracy paddles
it to the far side. Tearing takes a hit, gotta
(48:51):
pass off to Osburn dumps it down deep near the
left goal line. Osborne got knocked down in the process
and now whistling a penalty coming up on Minnesota State.
The Badgers are going to get a cutest power play
their first to the night after a hooking penalty called
on Felix Gabbers. So the Badgers will get a chance
to tie this hockey game. Early in the second period,
(49:13):
Osburn had free reign. All he had to do was
take another stride. Couldn't get his stick on the puck.
Speaker 6 (49:20):
Was his emotion forward was impeded by the hook underneath
of his hands.
Speaker 5 (49:25):
Uh.
Speaker 6 (49:26):
Probably a legitimate penalty for Gabbert to take, but a
bonus for Bucky.
Speaker 2 (49:34):
Felix Gavers spells his name f E. L ikss He's

Speaker 5 (49:40):
St.
Speaker 2 (49:40):
Lawrence transfer two minutes for hooking at two thirteen. Badgers
five of sixteen on the power play this season, oh
for three. Last night, Badgers win the face off Dex
Sheimer lepling Morrissey Finley trying to find an open spot.
Dex Shimmer shoots one and kneeling the goaltender Tracy top
of the blue paint makes the stop and gives up
no rebound out of face off to come again eight
(50:02):
seconds into Wisconsin's power play. Minnesota State scored twice on
the man advantage in the first period for a two
to nothing lead.
Speaker 5 (50:09):
Badgers get one back on.
Speaker 2 (50:10):
Quinn Finley's goal forty three seconds into the second and
now trying to get the equalizer on the man advantage.
Speaker 6 (50:18):
Cassie Up said he took a couple of pokes to
the head, and the referee has not called any of.
Speaker 2 (50:22):
Those Scots who wins the face off. Finley to dex
Sheimer backpedals on the blue line. Morrisey right wing, looking
back door. Instead dex Sheimer low left its Finley skates
it back to the half wall. Now turns top of
the circle, thought about shooting does but didn't get much
on it. A stick in his way. That was Jack
Smith's stick. Now dex Sheimer open man. Finley looks and
(50:43):
shown too high off the imports task. He put it
in front Fitzgerald with a chance try to cram it
in instead Laurie that Lemire went down, collided with his
goaltetter Lamiir then fell into the goal, knocking it off
its moorings, and a whistle stops play with one twenty
eight to go on the Badger's power play down two
to one. Here early second period.
Speaker 5 (51:02):
Now I'm not.
Speaker 6 (51:03):
Sure which game the referee was watching, but there was
a Mancato player who knocked the net off, and the
face office coming outside the zone to assume that the
Badger player knocked the net off.
Speaker 2 (51:16):
Unless they're thinking deck Szheimer assisted Lemir into the cage.
Speaker 5 (51:20):
That must be the case.
Speaker 2 (51:22):
Tulk kuchanin e John Botterrel and Hensler the Badger's second
power play unit trying to convert here and get even
shoal out on the penalty kill for Minnesota State. The Medford,
Wisconsin native, former Wisconsin Badger Okay Logan some magic. Here's
(51:43):
Botterlerel pass blue line and kuchanin offside. We paused ten
seconds for station identification, ten seconds for a legal idea.
You're listening to Wisconsin Badger hockey Bryan Posike and perrinback

Badgers now dumping in Tulkien on the fore check. Kukanan

E John no shot available, hence or T's won up

Tulk again down to Kuchenen working a triangle whose Bottrell

they come. Standard shoots one backside kicksab made by Houser

go on a bier up, unable to convert on their
power play over one, still a two to one game,

Benning Kasa look goud. He shot one right off the

Speaker 6 (54:00):
He draws a lot of attention to himself, doesn't he, Yes,
and rightfully so. I was kind of proud of Deering
as he just went up and said that'll be enough
for that young man and had some snide remark for him.
I'm sure kind of touch Steering. Just go after him,
go after him, go after him. It's good stick up
(54:20):
for your goaltender. Took his ankles out.
Speaker 2 (54:24):
In Minnesota State wins the offensive zone, face off, will bank
it back behind the nets. Watkins controls left wing although
deering in his hip pocket and bring tries to chip
it up and out no luck. But now the past
comes free. Brank diving able to heave it down deep.
Montgomery and Deary squashed the defenseman Murr, but the Mavericks
have three on one near side, can't clear Dubinski.
Speaker 5 (54:46):
Nice job at the point to hold and.
Speaker 2 (54:48):
Then taken back by Minnesota State Jordan ron In for
the forward Ian Simosa Tonight Ron ro n N from
Champlin Minesota Fargo Force last year. And now it's Watkins
who sweeps it into the Wisconsin zone to our left.

As chaotic as the first four and a half five
minutes was right now you're looking at the last two
minutes being but as boring as watching paint dry.
Speaker 2 (55:50):
Yeah, and there's an issue with a plane of glass
behind the Badger's net, and so the Coal Center crew
will take care of that. We do leave a stoppage
and play fourteen seventeen to go in the second we'll
take a one minute break. This is bad your hockey

to wiggle it back into place. And during that break
and looked over at the television and LA Dodgers starting
pitcher showy Otani a leadoff home run off jose Kntana
in the bottom of the first and then the Dodgers
scored two more. LA's up three to nothing in an

elimination game in the NLCS against the Brewers. Here the
Badgers trail Minnesota State two to one. Shoal pulls the
puck out of the fray in the Minnesota State zone
and pushed it past deck Sheimer. Shoal giving chase against
his former teammate Falan Now with the angle on Lemire.
He poked it free and betting and consta now scooting
around to the badger's zone and dex Sheimer stays with
(58:03):
him and wins the puck free. Now dex Sheimer slow
moving outlet past to Fitzgerald, slowly sauced across Finley. He
flies down the left wing wall, back behind the net,
low right to the dot, no place to shoot, hands
off to Hensler, Hensler goal line right, his centering past
to Fitzgerald off his stick, tricocheted to the far wall
in Tulk. Now Finley with it, tried to veer right,
(58:24):
cut off by Liam Hupka, still maintains possession back can
pass intended for the cutting Hensler didn't connect, goes deep
to the corner. Berg Manus now to Huppka. He'll bank
it off the glass past Hensler and all the way
down Paladachuck will beat Lamir to the hash marks icing
called on Minnesota States.
Speaker 6 (58:44):
You know that line did not get much of any
type of offensive opportunity. Yeah, but I think man Cato
State was just happy to keep them to the outside
and not get shots on goal. Because I'm sorry, but
anytime that Quinn Finley gets the puck inside the top
of the circles, it's a scoring opportunity.
Speaker 2 (59:02):
Both teams with five shots on goal here in the
second period, a two to one Minnesota State lead pair
of powerplay goals in the first for the Mavericks. The
Badgers get an equal strength goal from Quinn Finley as
his matching minor with Benincasa had expired. Now a shot
goes off a stick and that sales out of play again.

(59:47):
has a habit of doing that to opposing goaltenders. Did
it twenty times a year ago, trying to become the
first back to back twenty goal scorer for the Badgers
since Michael Mersh a little over a decade ago.
Speaker 5 (01:00:00):
Or there's a name from the past, isn't it.
Speaker 2 (01:00:02):
Yeah, Badgers have the puck Osburn with it out high
stick candle shoots one Badger's Tassy redirectsit stores Osburn.
Speaker 5 (01:00:10):
Just scoot it down the blue line and put one
towards the net.
Speaker 3 (01:00:14):
Tassy right there, got his stick on it, bounced it
past Tracy.
Speaker 5 (01:00:18):
We are even in Madison. Somebody got it.
Speaker 6 (01:00:22):
The referee, I think, took some time to see if
it was a high stick that deflected it. But if
it was Tassy or maybe it was off of the
I can't tell from the replay either that they just
showed on the big screen.
Speaker 2 (01:00:39):
Mason Wheeler, the captain from Minnesota State, raised his stick
right away saying that was a high stick. But the
referee calling Crown forced to the right of Tracy along
the left goal line, immediately pointed at the net saying
it's a good goal. And now Jake Rokuki, the other referee,
speaking one on one with Minnesota State head coach Luke Strand,
(01:01:00):
and apparently Luke's satisfied with what RAKOOKI had to tell him.
Speaker 5 (01:01:04):
So we play on. It's a two to two game.
Speaker 2 (01:01:06):
As Simon Tassi tally's his second goal of the season.
Speaker 5 (01:01:10):
Well, it's interesting to me, is that it.
Speaker 6 (01:01:12):
If they wouldn't have given the guy who just barreled
Tassi from behind a penalty, I would have been really upset.
Speaker 2 (01:01:19):
Jack Wrback lays a big hit on Jordan Ron, who
cleared the puck all the way down and accidentally iced it.
So the Badgers get an offensive zone face off twelve
thirty five to go in the second.
Speaker 5 (01:01:30):
It's a two to two game.
Speaker 2 (01:01:31):
Tassy from Osburn at seven eleven and give Gavin Morrissey
the secondary helper. Morrissey is fourth assists of the year
for Osburn, his third points. Talked with Finley and Fitzgerald.
Here's Hensler at the point right side. It'll flip it
down to the right corner, eludes the stick of Tulk
(01:01:51):
to the right wing or far wing wall. Chopped out
of the zone by Bonkowski in a whistle. It was
a high stick puck played with a high stick. They'll
drop it in the Wisconsin zone.
Speaker 5 (01:02:03):
Joe was smart.
Speaker 6 (01:02:04):
He tried to let Ron, the forward from man Cato State,
touch the puck first before he was going to drill
him into the wall. But because of the high stick,
they're gonna bring the face off down into the Badger's
zone and we.
Speaker 2 (01:02:17):

Speaker 5 (01:02:57):
I don't know.
Speaker 6 (01:02:58):
He might not last very long. No, I give you five.
He is so thrilled to be back.
Speaker 2 (01:03:02):
Good to see Jack and Doc here. Tonight saw Seamus Malone,
former Wisconsin Badger who now lives in the Milwaukee area.
He just retired from playing professional hockey. Has spent the
last few years with the Indiana Fuel in the East
Coast Hockey League. I tell you that Minnesota state travels well.
They've got to be a few hundred Maverick fans here
(01:03:25):
again tonight after a good crowd last night here at
the Cole Center.
Speaker 6 (01:03:28):
Well, I was a young man down below, said I
might be the only Minnesota person on staff. The connections
to Wisconsin are pretty significant at man Cato State.
Speaker 5 (01:03:38):
Yeah, yeah, they are. Another one.
Speaker 2 (01:03:41):
Bryce Strand, a Green Bay native, the son of Maverick's
head coach Luke Strand. Bryce, his mom Heidi Brice.
Speaker 5 (01:03:52):
Today.
Speaker 2 (01:03:52):
He was a healthy scratch last night and his dad
let him take part in pregame warmups tonight. But he's
not in uniform this evening, Bryce Strand. Bryce played his
junior hockey in the North American League with the Philadelphia Rebels,
coached by Stoughton, Wisconsin native Justin Hale. Turn around shot
Benning Casa block picked up by Fitzgerald, zips a pass
(01:04:13):
to the stick of Finley, chips it over the defenseman
Conrad with speed, he'll get their first no icing took
a bump from Conrad, the puck to Murr. Good check
by Fitzgerald. Freeze the biscuit for himself on his backhand.
Can't get a shot off. And now Finley getting physical too.
What are we seeing out there?
Speaker 5 (01:04:28):
Ian?
Speaker 2 (01:04:28):
Uh?
Speaker 5 (01:04:29):
Reformation of some sort. Here's Tulk now for the Badgers.
Speaker 2 (01:04:32):
Turns right tries to avoid contact from Benning Casa, but
fell down and then a miss hit by Fitzgerald, although
that seemed to get Benning Casa up near the hip.
Benning Cassa slow getting to the Mancato bench, Shoal battling
near side with deck Zheimer up to center. Tulk deflected
on side puck in the Minnesota state z own. Badgers
(01:04:52):
get a change. Here's kuchen In now ran into a
double team had it whacked off. His stick went off
the dasher deering out to the point Osburn didn't expect it.
It looked like Jacob Bankowski was gonna take it, hopped
over the stick of Osburn. The Badgers had to touch
up to two game eleven thirteen to go. Here in
period number two and Kato led two nothing after one.
(01:05:13):
The Badgers have pulled even, with Quinn Finley and Simon
Tassi each going their second goals of the season. Montgomery
off the wall, slot, passed back door, deering bed it
held up by berg Manus, passed now by Aiden Dubinski
out of the reach of Kukanin, and the Badgers have
to touch up. Now they're in a battle for the
puck near the man Cato bench.
Speaker 6 (01:05:33):
That was a play where Montgomery, I think, like coach
Chasing said, there's time to be selfish.
Speaker 5 (01:05:39):
Tee it up. Yeah, here's Kuchanan.
Speaker 2 (01:05:41):
Tried to kick the puck to the slot where Montgomery
was untouched.
Speaker 5 (01:05:45):
Never got through.
Speaker 2 (01:05:46):
Kuchanin back pressure able to steal a pass at the
center circle and turned and dumped it down. In ten
and a half minutes, sco Badger sports a turnover al Morrissey.
Tassy fanned on a one timer in front. Bottlel then
pushed it well wide. Look by Morrissey to Tassi coming
down the left wing. Kevin Morrissey with some jump today
pass out to Palada, Chuck point pass now to Hensler.
Speaker 5 (01:06:08):
His shot got through.
Speaker 2 (01:06:09):
No, it hit the defenseman I think in front burg
manis and now out to center ice.
Speaker 5 (01:06:13):
It comes.
Speaker 2 (01:06:14):
Badgers have started to take control of this hockey game.
Morrissey now top of the right circle. Hey fires one.
Try to go upstairs. Blocker saved, made by Tracy a Lota.
Chuck holds, spins it around to the near side. Hensler
fires it through the slot. No one home. Horbock trying
to keep it alive in the attacking zone.
Speaker 5 (01:06:31):
No luck there.
Speaker 6 (01:06:32):
The Badgers retreats. Boy, I like this bear right now
Hensler and Plada.
Speaker 2 (01:06:37):
Chuck, Finn Brink, Horbock now his shot off his stick
up off the high glass e John Horback and Finn
Brink on the ice. I think Horback's playing the center position,
could be Brink. Badgers dump it down in Brinking Horbock
on the Ford Shack hard rim around by Minnesota State
didn't clear. Brank puts pressure on the forward Gabbers now
(01:07:01):
dex Sheimer with it left wall out to the point
Frank wanted it, gets it rising. Shot gloved by Alex
Tracy and he hangs on. Nine to fifteen to go.
Second period. The Badgers have pulled even with Minnesota State.
We're tided too.
Speaker 6 (01:07:15):
Yeah, and you'll notice that the shot differential has gone
from in favor of Mankato State to ins favor of
the Badgers. We spend a lot of time in man
Cato's home here in this second period.
Speaker 2 (01:07:27):
Based off to the right of Alex Tracy. Tracy won
a Clark Cup with Luke stranded Sue City. It's funny
talking to Luke this week too. He almost coached Sawyer's
schol in sue City, he traded for Shoal and then
Luke ended up going to Ohio States about a month later.
(01:07:47):
Never played for him. Finley with a rising shot from
a top angle left wing mister Neet Badger's hustle back
to get the puck and Cato has not had the
puck very much of late's Finley saws to pass to
the right corner. Talk gives Chase try to cycle back
for Fitzgerald didn't get through. Osburn can't hold the point.
Dubinski trying to cut off. Lurie freed the biscuit and
(01:08:10):
the Badgers have it again. Osburn will send it in
towards Tracey, stops it with his stick and then pulls
it back his way, and we'll cover and get a
face off with eight forty two to go in the
second period a two to two game.
Speaker 6 (01:08:23):
Yeah, it's been pretty stagnant here for three to four minutes,
neither team wanting to make a big mistake. But the
fact of the matter being is that the ice is
tilted in the Badger's favor Right now. There's been a
significant amount of time in the offensive zone for the Badgers,
not getting a lot of quality shots. But again, that's
Minnesota state style. Just keep him to the outside, make
(01:08:44):
him shoot from the outside, try and create a turnover
and we'll score on a breakaway.
Speaker 5 (01:08:49):
Cooking it up with Deering in Montgomery. Deering takes the draw.
Speaker 2 (01:08:53):
He's got it. It was on his stick. He was
trying to shoot it, but he was held up from behind.
And then Montgomery pushed one slowly through the slot. Buck
rolls on the near side. Good hit by kuchin In
shouldered his shoulder on the defenseman Wheeler and a chance
for daringy Fan on that one as he was leaning
left trying to shoot back rights Andrews getting their bumps in.
(01:09:15):
As they like to call it, much more physical tonight,
the team in cardinal and white. Here is Montgomery now
half boards right Blake. Montgomery cycles back for Kuchen and
cuts back right, trying to get away from the pressure
of Tristan Lemire has him spinning around and then turns
and shoots one wide. Boy Lamir didn't know which way
(01:09:36):
was up. Now Pullata chuck out high. His shot got
through stop by Tracy, a high ricochet up over the
glass and out of play, and the fans like what
they see here in Madison seven point fifty three to
go in period number two, Wisconsin and Minnesota State tied
at two.
Speaker 6 (01:09:52):
That was one minute and eleven seconds worth of total
domination in the offensive zone. And I'll tell you what
if you you're not tired in your man Cato State,
there's nothing more tiring than playing in your own zone
and chasing the puck for a minute.
Speaker 2 (01:10:06):
Benincasa just got back to the Mavericks bench and it
took him a while.
Speaker 5 (01:10:11):
He's really trying to catch his breath.
Speaker 2 (01:10:14):
Face off to the rights of Alex Tracy and it's
won by Minnesota States.
Speaker 5 (01:10:19):
Read Morrick with it.
Speaker 2 (01:10:21):
Warwick the captain in Waterloo last year teammates with Wisconsin's
Grady Deering. Waterloo made it to the Clark Cup finals.
So a turnover in stender low right had a chance.
Is shot too high though he was ten feet away
from Hawser and missed the target. That's their first good
look in a long long time. Yeah, it might be
the first time shot in.
Speaker 5 (01:10:41):
About romer beautiful movements.
Speaker 2 (01:10:44):
He stick candled, toe, pulled and snapped one off and
Houser denied it on the top of the crease.
Speaker 5 (01:10:50):
Go through your man, Ryan Bottrel, here's botterrel Now with
the puck. The Badgers in transition.
Speaker 2 (01:10:54):
To our right bottlerel right wing looking slot shot blocked,
went to the far side. Tassie finds an open man.
Dubinski tries to settle the bouncing puck. He's pressured by
Gabbers now and then Minnesota State flips it out to center.
Osburn back to get it. Under seven minutes to go
in this period two two game a one one overtime
(01:11:15):
tie last night.
Speaker 5 (01:11:16):
You see how this one ends up.
Speaker 2 (01:11:18):
Minnesota State just flipped it past Dubinski, who was engaged
with Gabbers.
Speaker 5 (01:11:23):
The Badger's back to get it.
Speaker 2 (01:11:24):
Niejah passed ahead to Osburne. Couldn't handle that one so
hard it went through two people's sticks. Yeah, Horbock couldn't
get a stick down either. Average try to clear cannot
good stick by osburn sends it back into the offensive zone.
Now with it brink and he shan off balance. His
shot kicked away by Tracy. He John on the nearest
(01:11:45):
sign Murr with a puck, He'll turn and whip it
around after it. Osburn he avoids Bonkowski pulls it off
the wall. He shoots one from straight away that didn't
get through. Whose puck were is it? Horbock tries to shoot,
he can't, his stick tied up. Eventually, Minnesota State flung
off the glass. Don't think strongly enough for icing No.
Six five six oh five to go. Second period, it's
(01:12:06):
two to two.
Speaker 6 (01:12:07):
All of that offensive play three offensive players created by
Osburn and.
Speaker 2 (01:12:13):
Ali lead feed intended for Finley, and he gets around
the defenseman.
Speaker 5 (01:12:17):
No Icing called. He may have made contact with a pocket.
Speaker 2 (01:12:20):
A little bit passed from the Wisconsin's own now a
bad pass intercepted by the Badgers. Hensler sauced to head
for Tulk, but there was Hupka there to bat it away.
Finley picks it up and rims it around to the
right side. Hensler down the wall, so as Fitzgerald, who
bowls into barg Madis and al Hupka back to berg Manus,
who's backup on his skates, takes another hit from Fitzgerald.
(01:12:41):
Hensler got knocked down. Look out here is a chance. Nope,
ham pass called on Wisconsin and then Fitzgerald again got
a cross check right in front of the Minnesota State net.
Now he needs to be separated with one of the Mavericks.
Time out on the ice five twenty four to go
second period. The Badgers have scored twice in this period.
The polie this is bad your hockey from there.

Sitting in the Rail Transport broadcast booth at the Cold
Center in Madison, Wisconsin and Minnesota States sided too, Benincasa
and Lurie power play goals for the Mavericks of the
opening period. Quinn Finley and Simon Tassi even strength goals
for Wisconsin in the second period.
Speaker 6 (01:14:28):
Since we're in the rail booth, I think I'll go
in too sleeper for a while, wait till the intermission.
Speaker 2 (01:14:34):
He end oh big hit by Montgomery is he plowed
over Campbell's Psychos, but Psychos released the pass, Mavericks with
it and dump it into the Wisconsin zone to our left.
Shol then plants pullata chuck back behind the Badger. Nette
Tearing collides with Lamir and the puck sent back into
the Minnesota state zone. Kuchenin goes shoulder to shoulder with Psychos,
(01:14:57):
now Montgomery and Wheeler in Gay near size. Deering tries
to lip the stick of Benningksen no Luck and the
puck out at center, but pulled free by Kuchanin drops
off to Deering fans off to his left, defended by
Wheeler hoped that Psychos and then Psycho stumbled off the net,
fell backwards into the end boards. He's back up on
his skates, although he's favoring his right arm. Falan farside,
(01:15:20):
dex Sheimer cross eyes, Montgomery open shoots one blocked right
where you don't want to block a shot. Mason Wheeler
went down and gave up his livelihood. Ye, now here's Kuchanan.
Oh he rose a shot. They went off the shaft
of Tracy stick to the far side out high bottlel
Now he tole polls and whips one wide and Falan
holds the zone. Badgers have it again. Morrissey side steps
(01:15:41):
a man down the wall. He comes Morrissey goal line,
right back behind the net. What's he gonna do? What's
he gonna do? He pushed it back far side. Tassy
slot turn around shot, Bottlerel blocked back to Bottlerel missed
the nets. Dex Sheimer now right point stick candling. Here's Wisconsin.
It's Dubinski to Morrissey, back to deck. Szheimer sets. Morrissey
(01:16:02):
looks to shoot, not going to Morrissey works his way
straight away. Dubinsky left point. Morrissey fires missed the nets.
Even strength Badgers two to two with the Mavericks, Wisconsin
just dominating over the last couple of minutes.
Speaker 5 (01:16:16):
Yeah, it's been a.
Speaker 2 (01:16:17):
Osburn fakes a shot, he finally fires one off the
end boards. Bottrel tried to go short side, hit the post.
Bottrell retrieves the puck in the corner out to Osburn.
The Mavericks dog tired. Here's Osburn now right winging the
freshman defenseman out to Dubinski and he couldn't hold his
zone as the pucked ricochet off both of his scape
blades and out to center.
Speaker 5 (01:16:38):
And then the Badger's dump it in.
Speaker 2 (01:16:40):
But need a change, so do the Mavericks obviously as well. Wow,
Wisconsin just totally controlled there for a while. Now I
know where the term sustained pressure came from.
Speaker 5 (01:16:48):
Yeah, right.
Speaker 2 (01:16:50):
Then Brink knocked down puck out at center lofted too
far by. Dubinsky should be icing on Wisconsin the whistle
blow as it is two fifty eight to go in
the period, it's a two two. The Badgers with twelve
shots on goal in this period, Minnesota State only six.
Speaker 6 (01:17:05):
Well, luckily the Badgers who got tired from shooting in
that last minute, twenty second shift. Have five fresh skaters
out there, excuse me, relatively fresh skaters out there for
the defensive zone.
Speaker 2 (01:17:16):
Face off to the right of Daniel Hauser, Jack Smith
and Jack Horback, and Smith goes down. Horbock stays on
his skates, puck free doz Zeiberg shoots one low right
pad saved made by Owser, rebound knock to the corner.
Brink over skates Zederberg, then bounced by Horback. Long range
(01:17:38):
shot by Conrad missed the net, held in by Murr
ooh sauced it down to the corner over skating was Osbourn.
He now has possession of the puck. Two and a
half minutes to go in the second lead feed for
Brink too far. We're got wrapped back to get it
and he tries to clear it off the glass, up
off the stick end into the crowd about ten rows
or so, and there's a young fan that's happy down there.
(01:18:00):
Two thirty left in the second period. It's a two
to two hockey game. Hey, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation
reminds you'll always drive sobers zero in Wisconsin. Together, we
can save lives. Get to drive sober app today. Well,
I will say that the Badgers have missed a Netta.
Speaker 18 (01:18:19):
No.
Speaker 5 (01:18:20):
But as long as we're keep playing down on this end,
I'm happy.
Speaker 2 (01:18:25):
Tulki and Finley and Fitzgerald back out for Wisconsin. Minnesota
State won the face off and cleared it to center.
Badger's free group and ab the puck. Tulk will slide
it deep. Finley knocked the man off balance, buck loose
in the corner. It bounces over Finley's stick and now
Liam Hupka now has it upcutt played two years in
(01:18:46):
Sioux City. The ushl sends it into the Wisconsin zone.
Henzler sweeps it around to the far side more it
catches on his backhand. Wanted to center center, but Stender
picked it up. Now Burke Manishat got through off the
glove of how'ser. He stopped that one low right shot
didn't get through, and then Mork tried to put it
in front, went off the leg of Hensler. They center again.
(01:19:07):
It's loose, gathered in for a moment by Watkins, and
then Mork knocks down Tulk. Minnesota State trying to work
its way back ahead and the Badger's pilata Chuck will
save it up high and all the way down, no
icing as it slows. With one thirty to go in
the second period, a two to two game long lead
feed to Watkins, cut off by Hensler, but Watkins locates
(01:19:29):
the puck first and he'll dump it in Pilata. Chuck
goes to get it for the Badgers. Up ahead, long
feed for kukanin out of his reach. Icink cold on
Wisconsin face off back in the Badger's zone.
Speaker 6 (01:19:42):
Not a good time to take a Yes, it was
a breakaway pass or a long distance pass, whatever, but
if Kukanon doesn't get his hands on it, all of
a sudden, you've got five tired Badgers with only a
minute and seventeen left and right man Cato has spent
some significant time here in the last three four minutes
in the Badger's zone with some near misses, so you
want to.
Speaker 5 (01:20:02):
Get out of this period unscathed.
Speaker 2 (01:20:05):
Based off the left of Hauser won by Minnesota State,
Schole shoots the puck, never got through, got blocked, saw
your shoal after it and sweeps it around to the
near side. Ben In Kassa with it. The right hander
flips it back to the corner to the stick of Lemire.
I want to a minute to go in the period
Badgers and the Mavericks tied it too, Kuchan and now
(01:20:26):
with the puck, Kyle will heave it ahead and Mary
will win the foot race, no icing Montgomery after it
pin against the wall for a moment, Kuchanan comes to help.
The Mavericks have three skaters to Wisconsins too. When they
take the puck, Benning coss it to Lamir and he'll
send it in. Lamir a young man won a national
title in Denver two years ago, then Western Michigan last year.
(01:20:48):
Now he's at Minnesota States and he brings a little
pizazz to the.
Speaker 6 (01:20:54):
Muscular We don't. He just transfers to schools that are
going to win championships.
Speaker 2 (01:21:00):
He's Setterberg dumping it in twenty seconds to go on
the period dex timer. After it hits the brakes, Falin
now looking for an outlet. We'll scoop it up, but
not out stander nice pass who the slot Smith can't shoot.
Is Falan recovered after making a mistake. Then it's fired
down into the corner eight seconds Zeterberg out to the point.
Conrad farside mirth four seconds passed to the slot, intercepted
by Falin, ahead to Tassie and the clock will.
Speaker 5 (01:21:23):
Wind down to zeros.
Speaker 2 (01:21:24):
The Badgers were down two nothing after one, but rally
to tie it on goals from Quinn Finley and Simon Tassi.

Tack of the Cole Center of the Badgers and Minnesota
State all tied at two second period, scoring Quinn Finley
from Ben dex Sheimer and Oliver Tulk at forty three seconds.
Finley had just come out of the penalty box serving
matching miners at the end of the first but Finley
gets a second goal of the year, got the crowd going,
and then Simon Tassy redirects a shot from Luke Osburn
(01:25:16):
at seven to eleven to make it a two to
two game for Finley and Tassi, both their second goals
of the season. Badgers with twelve shots on goal, the
Mavericks had eight so far. Alex Tracy has stopped nineteen
of twenty one shots from Minnesota State Daniel Howser eighteen
of twenty four. Wisconsin Badgers did not take a penalty
(01:25:37):
in the second period.
Speaker 5 (01:25:38):
That's good news.
Speaker 2 (01:25:39):
Minnesota State took one, but Wisconsin unable to convert on
the man advantage.
Speaker 6 (01:25:42):
Hard Working discipline plays off and if you look at
both their goals, none of them were and superstar type goals.
Speaker 5 (01:25:50):
Both of them were hard work goals.
Speaker 6 (01:25:52):
Get dirty in the trenches, get dirty in the dirty
area in front of the net, and good things will happen.
And they did at work man Cato significantly, especially down
the stretch here in the second period, and they were
rewarded for it. And again staying out of the penalty
box was a big difference.
Speaker 2 (01:26:12):
Not sure how many shots Wisconsin attempted in that second
period of play, but they dominated for mostly twenty minutes
or so. It's Wisconsin two and Minnesota State two back

Student section, the marching band as well in decent crowd
for the second game, second home game of the regular season,
Wisconsin and Minnesota State all even at two. Elsewhere in
college hockey tonight, games involving Big ten teams, Ohio State
forty three seconds left in the third trailing at Connecticut
(01:28:45):
by the score of three to two. That's a matchup
of two Top twenty teams. The Buckeyes ranked sixteenth, Yukon
ranked twelve, Michigan State at one point at a four
to one lead at top ranked Boston University. Charliet Ramo
had scored for the Spartans. Michigan pasted Robert Morris ten
to two. Today, the Wolverines are now six and zero,
(01:29:09):
score their opponents forty to nine so far. Also, Notre
Dame shutout Saint Lawrence three to nothing. Penn State a
four to three lead on Long Island halfway through the
third period in State College, Matt Demarcico with a hat trick.
His third goal put Penn State on top, and Minnesota
and North Dakota tied it to nearing the end of
(01:29:31):
the second period. In Grand Forks, the Wisconsin women's hockey
team beat Vermont eight to one in the semis of

Union tomorrow at two thirty for the championship. Also, the
Brewers trailing the Dodgers in Game four, the NLCS three
nothing in the fourth inning of play. If the Brewers lose,
(01:29:54):
they will be done for the season. Here, the Badgers
and the Mavericks tied it two, and I know you'd
like to see a lot more in the third period
of what you saw from Wisconsin in the second.
Speaker 5 (01:30:04):
Exactly the case two.
Speaker 6 (01:30:05):
Things a little more intense, and when they have where
they are intense like that, they seem to have better
puck control and most importantly.
Speaker 5 (01:30:15):
Stayed out of the box.
Speaker 6 (01:30:17):
I think that was probably emphasized pretty emphatically between the
first and second period by coach Chase Things, I would think.
Speaker 2 (01:30:23):
So the Badgers took five penalties for twenty one minutes
in the opening period of five minute major in a
ten minute of his contuct to Vassily zillan Off, and
then Minnesota State went on to score a pair of
power play goals, but the Badgers answer back in a

hundred Go Badgers. They originally on the Simon Tassi game
time goal at seven to eleven of the second period
that originally read tassie from Luke Osburn and Gavin Morrissey.
Then they took the assist secondary assist away from Morrissey.
(01:32:05):
Then they gave it right back to him. So Gavin
Morrissey does have an assist tonight. Then he's also doing
well in the face off circle. The best Badger in
the face off circle so far tonight, eight out of ten.
Speaker 6 (01:32:16):
It looks like man Cato State has finished, has figured
out Tulk. Yeah, he was what four for eight or
four or eight, four of twelve whatever.
Speaker 5 (01:32:25):
After going fifteen or fifteen. Yeah, that's what I'm saying.
Speaker 2 (01:32:28):
Yeah, Hey, how about the Sharks from Long Island rallying
to pull even with Penn stayed at four late third
period i ic teas Hockey Valley offensive, bigger prime Badgers
win the centerized face off and dump it into the
offensive zone to our left. So we're underway here in
the third period of play a two to two hockey
(01:32:48):
game after a one to one overtime tie last night.
Speaker 5 (01:32:51):
You've got momentum on your side, young men. Don't let
it die.
Speaker 2 (01:32:54):
Although the Mavericks break out of their own zone. Sawyer's
shoal off to his left, takes a shoulder hit from
Jack Fhalen, but dumped it in Lamire avoids contact, but
got it off to Benning. Casa whips it pass out
to the point. Conrad fires across to Munn. Finley almost
intercepted Murr with that shot from the point it went
off a stick wide of Daniel Hauser. Now Finley at
(01:33:17):
center ized lost it. Badgers need to hustle on the
chains there late Murr with it left wing. Now they
get their five skaters on the ice in the defensive zone,
stick handling with it. Jack Smith, trying to get away
from Oliver talk Smith blew a tire and the Badgers
have the puck. Talk snaps off the pass at center.
Too hot to handle for Bottrel, but he'll chase it
down and he roughs up Psychos sweeps it back to
(01:33:39):
Tassi behind the cage. Tassi turns into a double team,
hands off the puck to Morris. He's centering pass for
Bottlerel broken up by the defenseman, and then the Badgers
heave it back deep. Psychos though first there for the
Mavericks outlet pass to lurry little backhand sauce to Jack Smith,
lets it slide free to Psychos and he'll try to
send it deep instead off his stick and out of play.
(01:34:01):
Eighteen thirty nine Togo in the third, it's a two
to two hockey game.
Speaker 6 (01:34:04):
I tell you if the Badgers have a success like
they did in that last shift where they turned the
puck over, Mankato turned to puck over three or four
times right by their offensive blue line now and the
Badgers were able.
Speaker 5 (01:34:17):
To keep it in.
Speaker 6 (01:34:18):
And I'll tell you what, when you're playing defense as
long as man Cato had on that shift, you get tired.
Speaker 2 (01:34:25):
Osburn out there with Dubinski deering, centering Montgomery and kuchenin
and again a one to two to two employed by
Minnesota State, passed by Dubinski to the right wing deflected
Jacob Stender runs into Dubinski back in the Wisconsin's own
aident patient with it can't clear the long range shots
(01:34:47):
skip wide rights of the goaltender Daniel Hauser. Now out
of the corner, they try to cycle around behind the cage.
Stender can't collect, held in by Gabbers, shot bought by Osburn,
who stays on them right back to Gavers round pass,
good stick by Osburn, picked up by Minnesota State. They'll
hammer it in now touch up, get a change in
the process. Two minutes gone by third period two two
(01:35:09):
can buy hands like that Osburn is. You know, he
just dog that guy and the next thing, you know,
he creates a turnover. Luke Osburn, fourth round pick of
the Buffalo Sabers in the twenty twenty four NHL Draft
eleven goals, forty three points, is the defenseman of the
year in the Ushl hard rush to the net Finn Brink,
but he never got a shot off as he cut
(01:35:29):
in right wing and now Bonkowski poked it past Felan,
but Jack able to hustle back into his own zone.
Reversus the Dexheimer had his pocket picked by Bonkowski. Bonkowski
fens off dex Sheimer bouncing buck. Now the Badger's captain
has control. Dexheimer open ice, throws it ahead to Brink
backhand pass for e John off the stick of Conrad
(01:35:52):
Horbach at CENTERAI is able to free the biscuit for
e John, who will dump it in. Three minutes into
the third a tie hockey game, and the Mavericks come
ahead with it Merr bumped off balanced by Finley, but
he fights through it. Now the buckets center, we're able
to bat it back now to his deep partner Wheeler
head Man's to Benning Casa and it deflects into the
(01:36:13):
Wisconsin zone and Joe Polatachuck goes to get it. Rims
and around to the near side. Good strong stick.
Speaker 5 (01:36:19):
By pay Yeah, he's her top.
Speaker 2 (01:36:23):
That's a knee coming up on Minnesota State. Finley down
on the ice. Finley remains on the ice. Colin kron
forced we'll get the maverick in Campbell's psychos who wiped
out Finley out near the Wisconsin blue line. And Andy Roady,
the Badger's team trainer, is hustling out to attend to
(01:36:44):
Quinn Finley, who remains on the ice.
Speaker 5 (01:36:47):
Rolling around in pain.
Speaker 2 (01:36:48):
He is now I'm not sure how much knee to
knee it went, but he was grabbing for his mid
section and up near his his hip area. And he
remains face and belly down on the ice. Andy Roadie
asking Gavin Morrissey to help here a little bit. Is
Roads trying to get as month's information from Finley as
(01:37:10):
he can. The referees are in the penalty box to
determine whether or not Campbell's psychost will be done for
the night, seeing if it's a five minute major or not.
Finley is not putting any pressure on his left leg.
Speaker 6 (01:37:23):
Nope, no, boys, not moving it even to bring it forward.
Speaker 5 (01:37:28):
Scared to put pressure on it.
Speaker 2 (01:37:30):
Finley and Tassi will escort the beggar. Pardon Morrissey and
Tassy will escort Finley off the ice. He's got his
head down. The guys are just kind of skating them along,
and Finley still has yet to put his left skate
down on the ice.
Speaker 5 (01:37:47):
So boy and.
Speaker 2 (01:37:49):
The fans here applaud Finn as he's heading off the ice, probably.
Speaker 5 (01:37:56):
Playing one of his best games tonight.
Speaker 2 (01:37:58):
Finley needs help to get over the kickplate boy five
minute major in a game mix misconduct against Campbell's Psychos.
Speaker 5 (01:38:09):
He's done for the night.
Speaker 2 (01:38:11):
The senior defenseman from Albert Lee. Here's it from the
crowd as he heads to the Minnesota state bench. Wisconsin,
which faced a five on three power play against and
actually a five minute major power play for the Mavericks
in the first period, now gets a five minute power
play as well as Psychos sits in the box at
(01:38:33):
three twenty six.
Speaker 6 (01:38:35):
To serve the penalty they will send over Felix Gavers.
He will serve the five minute major listed on the
depth chart as their fourth line left winger.
Speaker 2 (01:38:48):
All right, so the Badger's out of Cunis power play
for five minutes. Oh for one so far tonight, oh
for four on the weekend. Here's Osburne within it out
at the blue line, down low left, Bottl to Kouk
in left wing. Tulk, he's open. What's he going to do?
Down to the goal line, setting up Botterrell? His shot
stop by Tracy Triangle passing that time to the Badgers.
He was just five feet away and Tracy denied Bottrel again.
Speaker 6 (01:39:11):
Go top shelf, go up or Mama keeps the cookies,
Ryan yep Osburn, He's got quick feet.
Speaker 5 (01:39:17):
Tull.
Speaker 2 (01:39:18):
Here's Kuchen and now at center. He ran into traffic
and threw a pass off his teammates shin pad. Osburn
picks up the loose puck and hammers it around to
the left wing. Botterrell forces it back behind the net,
bouncing free near the blue line. Good stick candling by
Luke Osburn, but almost poke free by Lamir. Force the
Badgers out to center. Wisconsin will re enter his own
(01:39:39):
Badgers have already used fifty seconds here on this power
play in now Minnesota State wins it free and sends
it all the way down.
Speaker 6 (01:39:46):
And here's the other disruptive thing is that who's going
to play Finley spot?
Speaker 5 (01:39:51):
Finley spot on the power play?
Speaker 2 (01:39:53):
Lake Montgomery is out there right now. Montgomery with Morrissey, Fitzgerald,
Tassy and deck Szeimer.
Speaker 5 (01:39:58):
Fitzgerald now the left wing wall that.
Speaker 2 (01:40:00):
Side passed Tassy hard to the net. Just couldn't get
a stick down in time. Montgomery out at the point.
Now here's Fitzgerald right wing to the goal line. He
goes Tassy, Tassy back behind the net, setting up Morsey
backside Fitzgerald sliding knee saved made by Tracy. Beautiful pass play,
excellent stop by Tracy. Now Fitzgerald again hash Mark's right.
(01:40:20):
Badger's looking to take the lead. Five minutes gone by
third period on a power play, Morrissey went upstairs, fought
off by Tracy. Badger still possess Tassy with it left
corner now to Morrissey out high dex Sheimer. One timer
by Fitzgerald deflected on goal. Tracy stopped it dug free
by Montgomery. Badger still have possession. Three minutes left on
(01:40:40):
the power play, trying to take the lead for the
first time this weekend. Whistling shot by Wisconsin's Dexheimer missed
the net. Morrissey able to hold puck, Airborne bounces to
the corner. The Badgers need a change in Minnesota state
able to clear. No, Yes, dex Sheimer was just outside
the zone. Tried to I guess the referee the linesman
(01:41:01):
into calling it on side, but the puck had come
across the blue line and so offside on Wisconsin. Fresh
power play unit for the Badgers. It's a two to
two game, fourteen twenty seven left in the firm.
Speaker 6 (01:41:11):
Whoa some names out there I never thought would be
on a power play this year.
Speaker 2 (01:41:15):
Yeah, Tull horback now out with John, Osburn and Botterrel
Tulk knocked down by Smith and he wanted a penalty,
but nothing call.
Speaker 5 (01:41:26):
Two forty five left in the Badgers Cunis power play.
Speaker 6 (01:41:29):
And unbelievable lopsided amount of time in the offensive zone.
Speaker 2 (01:41:34):
Motteril Harden to the offensive zone. E John now with
it to the point. Man in Osburn. Here's Tulk down
the wall left wing looking Oliver talk to Osburn, he'll
walk the line. The left handed defenseman finds Talk, snapped
off a pass and Tennant cross eyes for e John
off the skate of Smith. Tulk now found Bottrel now
open man Jhon that pass in his skates, handcuffed him,
(01:41:54):
couldn't catch it, still loose, pushed back behind the Minnesota
State net. Hustling after it. Murray He's able to chop
it off the wall and out to neutral Ice two
tend to go in the power play, Badgers and Mavericks
tied to two. Osburn finds E John Badgers on side.
Tulk across the line, bumps it back for bottlel walks
to the dot. His aw balanced shot club by Tracy
hangs on.
Speaker 5 (01:42:15):
Wow, he's been good. Yep.
Speaker 6 (01:42:18):
They've had a lot of shots, and he's had a
lot of traffic in front of him, but give credit
where credit is due. Very few rebounds, and he's been
able to corral pretty much every shot that the Badgers
have thrown on him. Here for the first four minutes
or three minutes of this five minute major power.
Speaker 5 (01:42:33):
Play, Tracy stopped to.
Speaker 22 (01:42:36):
Row.
Speaker 2 (01:42:36):
Here's Quinn Finley and the fans some come to their feet.
Finley appears to be okay, grabs a stick, leans over
the shelf. He wants out on the ice. Blake Montgomery
would like to stay for a moment. On the power
play based off to the right of Tracy, Badgers try
to snap a two all draw Morrisey to take the
(01:42:57):
face off, drop the puck, and here's dex Seimer picks
it up and looks bumps it back off the near wall.
Burg manus in the way, but Montgomery's got it low
left out to the point. Now dex Shimer faked the
shot right wing Fitzgerald dex he wants it back, but
Fitzgerald holds now dex Sheimer left wing pass off of stick.
Morrisey goes to get it, Shoal pressures him and he
(01:43:18):
turned it over. Good play by Sawyer Schul one thirty
five to go on the Badgers' power play two two game.
Here in the third, thirteen oh five to play, here's
Fitzgerald across the line, gains the zone, peels back, sets
things up down to the corner. Montgomery now and he
mishandles the puck. He's in a fight for the loose
(01:43:39):
biscuit and Burg Manus won that with assistance from Lemere,
and again the Mavericks clear.
Speaker 6 (01:43:44):
Okay, young mister Osborne, let's go coast to coast.
Speaker 2 (01:43:47):
Here our play time winding down. Here, the Badgers had
five minutes sement advantage hockey. They've only got one left.
Here's horback. Finley's back out there for Wisconsin. Finley can't
reach the puck. It's chipped ahead to Stender and he'll
clear again. Good job by Minnesota State's penalty kill.
Speaker 6 (01:44:05):
Yeah, there haven't been a lot of quality scoring opportunities
by any stretch of the imagination, but boy, there's been
a lot of offensive zone time for the Badgers.
Speaker 2 (01:44:13):
There's Finley and through the neutral zone, bumps it down
to the corner for himself, swips it around. Now Tulk
with it left wing. Thirty five seconds left on the
power play. Osbourne with it, walks the line left wing.
Tulk backside pass for Finley off his stick and into
the protected netting.
Speaker 5 (01:44:29):
Gave it away.
Speaker 6 (01:44:29):
Everybody in the building knew that Tulk was going to
try and go cross ice to Quinn Finley, so you
could shoot it off the pass. Everybody, including the four
people from Mankato State.
Speaker 2 (01:44:39):
YEP, Finley will stay tassy, Morrissey, Fitzgerald and dex Sheimer
will join him. Thirty seconds left on the man advantage.
Wisconsin too, Minnesota State, two Badgers trying to stay unbeaten
on this young season. Morrissey against Jacob Stender and it's
(01:45:01):
won by Minnesota State and Hupka will fling it all
the way down.
Speaker 5 (01:45:08):
Well, I tell you what, Soyo schol gets a lot
of ice time, Yes, he done.
Speaker 6 (01:45:11):
Ely's fellow power play plays a regular shift, does a
nice job. Here's Gavin Morrissey across the line, pass to Fitzgerald,
right back to Morrissey in the corner. Morrissey turns into
the defender Wheeler sweeps it over to Finley, bumps it
out to Dexzheimer. Four seconds left on the power play,
pressured by Shull, throws it to the corner in Wisconsin,
unable to converts on the man advantage. Still a two
(01:45:32):
to two game, eleven thirty left, but played out to center.
Speaker 2 (01:45:36):
Fitzgerald needs a change. Didn't notice that the puck was
cleared all the way down. Dex Sheimer after it. The
Mavericks were changing too, so no harm, no foul on
the Badger's back to get it so even strength for
both teams. Badgers zero for two on the power play tonight.
Here comes Logan Hensler, his pass intended for deering apparently
deflected no icing chipped away from the front of the net,
(01:45:59):
and here come bening Casa. Plata Chuck picks him up.
Manda man Hensler after it try to beat it off
to Plada Chuck off his backage and the Coo Hoo
can in crushed Alex Zetterberg behind the net. And then
Wisconsin's deering just flattened bening Casa and then down goes
Wisconsin's Kuchenin out its center. The puck comes and a
(01:46:20):
whistle stops play. Bening Casa slow to get up in
the Wisconsin Zoni's on all fours after getting his bell
rung by Grady Deering and a timeout on the ice.
Ten forty five to go in the third. It's Wisconsin
two in Minnesota state two Badger fans choose chill and
celebrate responsibly twenty one means twenty one Core's Light choose
(01:46:43):
chill twenty twenty five Core's Brewing Company, Golden Colorado. This
is Badger hockey from Learfield.

Speaker 5 (01:47:58):
Well, it's been a hard hitting a fair here.
Speaker 2 (01:48:00):
It's an eye between Wisconsin and Minnesota state as two
all tie with ten forty five to go on the
third period and the referees or bag me ptally box
taking a look at video replay to determine whether or
not Grady Gearing deserves a five minute major for blowing
up Luigi benin Casa.
Speaker 12 (01:48:18):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (01:48:19):
I'm kind of caught on the fence on this one
because after the Kucanin hit, which was as pretty a
hit as you're going to see, where it was just
two people going toe to toe, one went down and
the other one stood up, Kucanon being the one who
stood up. Now, but as ben in Cosa turned to
(01:48:39):
come out, all of a sudden, Gearing was just right
in his face.
Speaker 5 (01:48:43):
And did he get his stick up? I can't. I
couldn't tell from where I was.
Speaker 6 (01:48:48):
And secondly, did he take steps to initiate to check?
That would be my second opinion that our second issue
that I would be dealing with.
Speaker 5 (01:48:56):
It sounded like he just ran into him. Yeah, it
just it appeared to me.
Speaker 6 (01:49:00):
It happened so fast that I can't say that, but
it appeared to me just ran into them.
Speaker 5 (01:49:05):
And the referees are.
Speaker 2 (01:49:06):
Taking a look at things right now, Why don't we
pause ten seconds for station identification, ten seconds for a
legal ID. You're listening to Wisconsin Badger Hawk Brian and
Ian here at the Cole Center waiting for Big ten
referees calling kronforst and.
Speaker 5 (01:49:19):
Jake Rikuki to come out of the box.
Speaker 2 (01:49:22):
So let us know whether we'll continue to skate five
on five or if Grady Dearing is going to take
a seat either in the penalty box or in the
locker room.
Speaker 5 (01:49:31):
Here comes Colin Kronforst. Yeah, Deering.
Speaker 2 (01:49:40):
It's a five minute major and a game mis conduct.
He's the second Badger to get kicked out of the
game tonight for a major penalty, and Minnesota State will
get a five minute power play with a chance to
snap a two all time.
Speaker 6 (01:49:56):
Excuse me, but I think that is one of the
worst calls I've ever seen. That's call it home, call
it whatever, you call me, whatever you want to call it.
Speaker 2 (01:50:07):
But so another major penalty.
Speaker 5 (01:50:15):
By comparison to the three other histories.
Speaker 2 (01:50:17):
So here's serving. The penalty will be Kyle Kuchanden Deering
head contact at nine point fifteen, a major penalty on
Wisconsin's Deering and Minnesota State right now on the power
play offensive zone face off, they lose it.
Speaker 5 (01:50:35):
Jack Krbak takes the puck.
Speaker 2 (01:50:36):
He skates to his left through the center circle with
three Mavericks in pursuit and able to waste some time
on this major power play from Minnesota State. So again
Deering gets the gates and the locker room and a
bouncing puck that the Badgers pick up and Pladachuck sends
(01:50:56):
it all the way down. Well, this is obvious a
big point in this hockey.
Speaker 5 (01:51:02):
Oh yeah, this would be a turning point.
Speaker 2 (01:51:03):
Ten minutes left in the third, a two to two game,
Wisconsin shorthanded for another four to twenty five. Zetterberg gains
the zone bad pass intercepted by deck Sheimer. He leans
down and gulps it up and out on goal, and
Tracy stops it and leaves it off for Jacob Conrad.
So the Badgers already have killed off fifty seconds of
this Minnesota State power play. Left wing Lurie He's got
(01:51:27):
a goal tonight on the man advantage.
Speaker 5 (01:51:29):
Oh bumps it back to Murr as local big pass
that merv caught up to.
Speaker 6 (01:51:33):
You can throw Horbock down to the ice and not
get a call against you.
Speaker 2 (01:51:38):
Murr in the corner, pressured by Deckzheimer, spins it around
to the far side and Benning Kasa put it on
the stick of Morris's that will ejam at pass. Benning
Coasa out corback thought about chasing it down, but Murr
had the angle to it. Jack takes a right hand
turn and sits down as the Badgers get fresh penalty killers.
Minute and a half gone by in the five minute
major pedalty benning Casa with a shot blocker side that
(01:51:59):
how got a piecea kept the lie by Minnesota State.
They put it to the tape of Wisconsin's Poladachuck ahead
to Fitzgerald one on one with Murr forced behind the nets.
Good play by Evan Murr, the junior defenseman, Yeah, the
best in the CCAJ last year, pinning Fitzgerald against the
corner wall. Those two dancing in the corner they we
(01:52:19):
play on three zero nine to go on the power
play from Minnesota State, Lemire dumps it in, goes to
the far side, and Smith back to lemire goal line,
right open man Ron his shot blocker saved by Howser
off the high glass. Brink out there on the penalty
kill with Morrissey along with Pilata, Chuck and Dubinski. Two
(01:52:41):
fifty to go in the power play from Minnesota State
to two game, eight and a half minutes to play
in regulation, Smith now playing catch with himself off the
end boards, ran into polata Chuck Joe then may have
pulled down ron no Penalley the puck freedom Morrissey. Gavin
takes his time to the center circle off to his
right across the line. Morrissey has this step on Zeneberg
(01:53:02):
tried to carry it to the net and lost control.
Then it's pushed to the corner. Morrissey will follow Lamir
to the puck, wasting more time on this Minnesota state
power play. Good job by the PK for Wisconsin. Eight
minutes left in the third two two games till two
fourteen left on the Mavericks power play. Here comes Jacob Conrad,
(01:53:25):
the Green Bay Native right wing pass bening Casa middle
of the ice sits Watkins ran into traffic, lost the puck.
Lourie picks it up, he banks it off the end boards.
Watkins lets it go to bening Cassa, tied up for
a moment by fickly right wing Laurie is shot low
off Eskate before it got the Houser I believe, and
now Osborn digging for it. He falls down Noe Pedale.
(01:53:45):
We play on Murr Openman left wing bening Cassa can't
shoot the rolling puck murr Will that's blocked by Horbock.
Speaker 5 (01:53:52):
To the corner. Won.
Speaker 2 (01:53:53):
Thirty five to go on the power play for Minnesota State.
They miss on a pass play. Mr Topol ran into
a batcher chipp ahead Horbock, He'll move it ahead to
the body of Finley, break away short handed quin Finley
comes in left side and he doesn't get the shot off.
He may have broken the blade of his stick and
went off the heel of his stick and slowly spun
towards Tracy. He had nothing on it. Oh, what a
(01:54:16):
chance for your top goal scorer. And he sits down,
upset with himself. Still one ten to go in the
Minnesota State power play. The Badgers have done the job
so far.
Speaker 5 (01:54:25):
On the PK. Here's Plata.
Speaker 2 (01:54:27):
Chuck hip checks Conrad and separates him from the puck.
Fitzgerald turns and whips it around off the high glass,
over Zetterberg and down. Fifty five seconds to go on
the PK, Morrissey and horback back out with Falan and
deck Sheimer drop pass its center. Here's Jack Smith. He'll
launch it to the corner. Deck Seimer looks over his
(01:54:47):
left shoulder. He'll pin it against the boards, reaching for it,
Morrissey tucked it away from Lemre spins it ahead. Now
Horbock with Fhalan Horbock right wing flan to the net.
He whistles one through the crease off the corner wall,
wiped out.
Speaker 5 (01:55:01):
Bill Peddley called Lamir. Two on two.
Speaker 2 (01:55:03):
Lamiir behind the net looking backside. Lamiir tried to force
a pass and failing, got in the way, then turned over.
Wisconsin's got it again. Dubinsky one on two against Lemiir
and Lurie. Dubinsky will fire one easy glove save Tracy.
Fifteen seconds left on the five minute power play for
Minnesota State and the Badger fans come to their feet.
Here in Madison, a two to two game under six
(01:55:24):
minutes left. The Badgers fight off this five minute power
play and Wisconsin is back to full strength. Here's Minnesota
State off the wall, gabbers cut two Badgers split between them.
Now to the right corner out to the point, Murr,
Murr settling waiting. Here's Lourie now right circle, turn around
shot block the Badger's kukin In trying to settle the
(01:55:45):
puck down and does five and a half minutes left
at two to two game, Finley across the line, pushed
it to the corner and gives Chase cross check Watkins
and won the puck for himself, spinning past to the
slot off the stick, otherwise he had Montgomery going right
to the net. Gabbers ties up Osburn. He turns and
flips it deep to Tulk, setting up on Montgomery stone
bite Tracy. What a spinning pass by. Talk to the
(01:56:08):
tape of Montgomery and Tracy with a dynamic stop.
Speaker 5 (01:56:11):
Standing on the pier. Put it in the ocean, young man.
Speaker 2 (01:56:14):
Five minutes left in regulation, still to two, shoal knockdown
out by the Minnesota State blue line. Tulk takes the
puck away, slides at the Montgomery low left Botterrel then
had it knocked off his stick. Tulk goes to get
it slow moving past to the point Henzler keeps it alive.
Montgomery out high straight away finds an open man. Here's
a chance Bottrel block shot by a sliding wheeler and
(01:56:36):
then thrown out of the zone by Minnesota State and
their gas. They need a change and they better hurry.
Here's Montgomery nifty stick handling move at center ice to
dump it in down to the corner. Now Tulk can't
reach it, break out, they flub it. Wisconsin's botterrel keeps
it alive. Four twenty to go in the third, a
two to two game, passed toward the middle of the ice,
(01:56:57):
intercepted by Stender, who got crushed by Tassie.
Speaker 5 (01:57:00):
Couldn't clear.
Speaker 2 (01:57:01):
Eventually it bounce is free to shoal He will gain
the red line and dump it into the Mavericks change again.
Four to ten left in the third, a two to
two game, Badgers erased at two to nothing first period
deficit to get even. Here's brink now right wing. Tassi
back to brank caught it, couldn't shoot it looking Tassie
slot he has no place to shoot, bounces between his
skates and then chipped out all the way down by
(01:57:22):
Watkins of foot race.
Speaker 5 (01:57:24):
Will it be icing? And it will be?
Speaker 2 (01:57:26):
Has Palada chuck outraced the Mavericks and an offensive zone
face off coming up here in a moment offensive zone
face off coming up here in a moment for the
Wisconsin Badgers. And after the play, Tassi was going at
it with one of the Mavericks. Now Tassi and Stender
are going shoulder to shoulder. Stender fell down after the
(01:57:47):
contact with Tassi, and the referees need to get things
slowed down and under control here with three point fifty
to go in the third period of play.
Speaker 6 (01:57:56):
It's ridiculous they just they were going to give Tassie
a penalty. The guy comes over or the referee holds
him on his chest and the guy puts his head.
Speaker 5 (01:58:04):
Back but like he had just gotten hit.
Speaker 2 (01:58:05):
Yeah, I'm like by the referee based off to the
right of Alex Tracy. The Badger's thirty shots on goal tonight.
Now a time out called by Minnesota State. Three point
fifty left in the third we'll take a one minute break.
Don't go anywhere. This is Badger Hockey from lear Field.

to ubid Badgers dot com backslash Zamboni. It's a two
(01:59:48):
to two game, three point fifty left in regulation. The
Badgers were down two nothing after one, but Quinn Finley
and Simon Tassi scored in the second and that's where
we stand right now. Both teams have had major power plays. Tonight,
Minnesota State scored a five on three.
Speaker 5 (02:00:05):
Power play goal. Moments ago, the Badgers.
Speaker 2 (02:00:07):
Killed off a five minute major to Grady Deering buck
Is loose to the offensive zone. Tulk was knocked down,
Fitzgerald jumped over him to try to get to the puck,
and now it's center ice bending Casa left wing.
Speaker 5 (02:00:19):
Shoal puts it down low Lamire. What a stop by
Houser with a blocker. Wow.
Speaker 2 (02:00:24):
It went from right side to the left, Shoal backside
to Lamire and Hauser stuck out his right arm and
made a fantastic blocker saved.
Speaker 5 (02:00:33):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (02:00:33):
And if Quinn Finley hadn't gotten his stick up underneath
the armpits of lemiir, I think that would have been
a goal.
Speaker 5 (02:00:40):
He ended up.
Speaker 6 (02:00:41):
Changing the direction of the stick and therefore he deflected
it into the corner or to the side that the
goaltender was able to get his hands on it, or
get a glove on it, or stick on it.
Speaker 5 (02:00:52):
Whatever it was.
Speaker 6 (02:00:53):
It deflected it into the corner and Finley realized that
he was a step behind and had to use his
stick to make that play.
Speaker 2 (02:01:01):
Howser with his twentieth save of the nights face off
to his right two two game, three and a half
minutes left. Badgers win the face off. Dubinski banks it
off the glass too strongly and is called for icing
three twenty nine left on the third period clock again.
The Badgers back here next weekend to play Alaska Friday
at seven Saturday. At six Saturday, it's a trophy walk
(02:01:25):
through the concourse at the Coal Center. All the Badgers
championship trophies will be on display. Minnesota comes to town
the following weekend Saturday, November first, it's a whiteout against
the Golden Gophers. And don't miss the Saturday, January twenty
fourth game against Penn State as Wisconsin celebrates twenty years
since the two thousand and six National Championship seage.
Speaker 5 (02:01:47):
It's a long time.
Speaker 2 (02:01:48):
Fitzgerald just hog tied down to the ice at center.
No penalty called. Badgers dump it in three point fifteen
left in regulation. It's two to two. Finland lost the
possession of the puck. It's bouncing around the blue line.
Finley picks it up. He'll try to backhanded deep, but
put it on the body of the defenseman. Wheeler and
he feeds it to Murr and he'll survey and come
(02:02:09):
up the right wing wall pass caught by Shoal across
the line, draw pass Smith through traffic.
Speaker 5 (02:02:14):
He shut it up, high, shut it between the legs.
I think you'll.
Speaker 2 (02:02:17):
Play it back out to neutral and then he back
Wisconsin's way and dex Sheimer goes to get a two
fifty left. In the third, there comes the captain up
the middle of the ice, right wing pass Phelan middle,
Morrissey deflected deep first man two at Hupka easy, rim
around and out. Zetterberg can't reach it, forcing the Badgers
(02:02:38):
all the way back. Wisconsin slow to respond to that,
to redirect that time by Montgomery. Here's Morrisen out of
Montgomery and he'll dump it in again. Botterrel will come
down the wall, but the Mavericks get there first.
Speaker 5 (02:02:52):
It's like the game has slowed down here in the
last three minutes.
Speaker 2 (02:02:55):
Yes slow for checking pressure by Bottrel that time, and
now a whistle off side stoppage and play and.
Speaker 6 (02:03:02):
Hardbacher was inside the blue line when he ended up
getting that pass from Bottlerel.
Speaker 2 (02:03:08):
So they'll drop the bucket center ice to two to
two game with two twelve to go in period number three, the.
Speaker 5 (02:03:17):
Penalty box gate just opened and so did the down
at the end.
Speaker 2 (02:03:22):
But yeah, they they were going to shovel the ice.
But we've taken enough breaks already in this period, an't we?
Speaker 5 (02:03:28):
I don't know. We've seen two major penalties.
Speaker 2 (02:03:30):
The referees have been in the box looking at video
replay three times in this period.
Speaker 5 (02:03:36):
Ssconsin's got the puck.
Speaker 2 (02:03:37):
Here's Luke Osburn boy, he can really skate whether they're
pointed north south or east west. Tassi Topengles shot Tracy
even a stop repound was there for just a moment,
but he covered.
Speaker 5 (02:03:49):
There you go, stick to the head.
Speaker 2 (02:03:50):
Yeah, Brink just went in trying to get to the
loose pod, but Tracy dropped it and then quickly covered.
Speaker 5 (02:03:57):
Didn't lose sight of it.
Speaker 2 (02:03:59):
It wasn't too far from his body either, able to
get his glove and block her down pretty quickly.
Speaker 6 (02:04:05):
No, it's uh, you know, with time being a factor,
every shot counts and every rebound counts, and to be
honest with you, whoever's hot should.
Speaker 2 (02:04:16):
Be out there right now, right now. They moved Kuchanon
up with Tulk defensive pair of Falen and deck. Sheimer
shot off the draw that was e John. It was
stopped by Tracy, who lost his stick. E John out
with kuchanin and Tulk out to the point Falan couldn't
(02:04:38):
hold his own got between his legs. The Mavericks now
possessed minute forty to go in a regulation two two game,
Buck directed into the Wisconsin's own Benning Casa passed for Lamir,
not much on it, Badger's take it away. E John
up to center. Nice patient pass to Tulk who whips
a shot from the high slot high and why bank
(02:04:59):
around to the far side. Watkins hands off now to
Tristan Lemire will dump it in and the Badgers pull
out a chuck back to get it. One fifteen left
in regulation rim around of Morrissey centeried Fitzgerald knocked down
from behind, but he's up on his skates.
Speaker 5 (02:05:15):
Don't make size make that pack.
Speaker 2 (02:05:17):
That's the Wisconsin line almost picked off by Stender instead.
Speaker 5 (02:05:20):
The Badgers have it now. The Mavericks have it back.
Speaker 2 (02:05:23):
Here's Watkins charging into the offensive zone, pass behind Stender
in the high slot. Badger's pick it up in transition
and Fitzgerald mishandles now Osburn's got it. Osburn with it.
Luke Stran wanted too many men. Osburn into the offensive
zone looking looking he's double team Farsi, trying to protect
the puck, getting no support. Now eventually it comes free
(02:05:43):
to Bottrel back to Osburn. Now stick candling with his
back to the net. Osburn in the far corner. Thirty
seconds left in regulation, pulls it free Osburn and he
gets a pass off to Horbock. His shot was blocked
Stender's now got it twenty four seconds left readline, He'll
scoop it in Badgers with one last rush. Here in
regulation in a two to two game, Osburn looks up
(02:06:06):
the clock. Fifteen seconds. Osburn comes up the middle. Eleven seconds,
here's Montgomery center circle. Blake Montgomery past two Mavericks, tip
the puck in on Tracy. He paddled it away out
towards the blue line. Three seconds Osburn throwze it back
in and for the second successive.
Speaker 5 (02:06:23):
Night, we're headed to overtime.
Speaker 2 (02:06:25):
Here in Madison, between Wisconsin and Minnesota State.
Speaker 6 (02:06:31):
Well rewrite the script again, but again the Badgers in
the third period, despite the fact that they had to
kill off the or had the big five on five
minute powerplay situation as we were talking about, all of
a sudden, They've got thirty three shots and man Cato's
(02:06:52):
only got twenty two.
Speaker 5 (02:06:53):
So it's not.
Speaker 6 (02:06:55):
From lack of shooting or lack of shots on net
that the Badgers are still locked to two to two,
two to two with Mankato state shots on.
Speaker 2 (02:07:04):
Goal in the third period eleven to two in favor
of Wisconsin. Alex Tracy stopped all eleven shots. He has
thirty one saves here tonight. Meanwhile, Daniel Hauser only had
to stop two shots in that period and he's got
(02:07:25):
a three period total of twenty saves correct at. Wisconsin
credited with twelve shots on goal in the third period,
Tracy stopped them all, So that's thirty one saves for
Alex Tracy through two periods of play and kate periods of.
Speaker 6 (02:07:42):
Play back Mankato are credited with two shots on net
yeah and an entire ouch.
Speaker 2 (02:07:49):
No storing in the third period. Psychos took a five
minute major for kneeing early in the third, the Badger's
unable to convert on that extended power play, and then
Wisconsin freshman Grady Deering took a five minute major for
head contact and Minnesota State unable to convert on that
extended power play. The Badger's best chance doing excellent on
(02:08:11):
the penalty kill was a breakaway for Quinn Finley, who
came down the middle of the ice tried to shoot it,
the blade of his stick snapped and he got nothing
on it. Finley also left during the third period with
knee contact. That's why Psychos was kicked out. It looked
bad at first, but Finley, after a few minutes in
(02:08:32):
the locker room, came back out and joined his teammates
on the bench and he's had a regular shift since.
Three on three overtime Hockey Wisconsin and Minnesota State. The
Badgers did not do well in the three on three
overtime last night, too many long shifts, mishandling the puck.
Minnesota State dominated, but were coverage. Daniel Hauser was solid
(02:08:57):
during OT, stopping all three shots he faced.
Speaker 5 (02:09:00):
It's that saved.
Speaker 2 (02:09:00):
They're racing, yeah, right, So Minnesota State wins the centerized
face off and we're underway in OT. It's Lamir with Benning,
Casa and Mrr. The Badgers have tulk with Finley and
deck Seimer. Slowly, the Mavericks come up the ice. Here's
Lemir across the line, drops back to Murr, Tulk on him,
(02:09:20):
just taking their time. MRD trying a stutter step move
right wing wall down to the corner. He goes, wheels
back on a backhand, tried to stuff at Houser with
the save. It's underneath his pads. Now the whistle blows,
stopping play. Evan Murr trying to lull Tulk to sleep.
All of a sudden, wheeled from behind the net on
a backhand nipty moved by Evan Murr, the All Conference
(02:09:42):
defenseman from Minnesota State.
Speaker 6 (02:09:45):
Yeah, it's uh yeah, lull them to sleep. I guess
it's kind of the stop and start.
Speaker 5 (02:09:50):
We'll see what happens with it.
Speaker 6 (02:09:51):
But Badger's never even had the opportunity touch the puck
in that first thirty one seconds.
Speaker 2 (02:09:57):
Now Morrissey out with Fitzgerald and Hensler against Stenders, Zetterberg
and burg Manus and Morrissey won the face off and
Logan Hensler with possession behind his own net. Logan, the
nineteenth first round pick in the history of Wisconsin men's
hockey taken by Ottawa, rubbed off on the near side
(02:10:19):
and coughed up the pot potential two on one burg
Manus left wing, Morrisey catches up burg Manus tried to shoot, Morrissey,
got in his way, but came to Morrissey. Lea beat
Fitzgerald two on one for Wisconsin to our left. Fitzgerald
looking kicking a shot off, passed to Hensler. He threw
it behind him and then Fitzgerald crashed into the end
boards and is slow to get to.
Speaker 5 (02:10:38):
The badger's bench. A two on one and no shot
taken correct.
Speaker 2 (02:10:44):
Now Osbourne with Montgomery on this three on three and
Tulk will get another shift.
Speaker 5 (02:10:50):
Montgomery's built for this kind of play.
Speaker 6 (02:10:54):

Speaker 2 (02:44:25):
Tonight, Yeah, Jack Jack falin. TOO i, mean you can
go up and down the. Lineup that's what you'd like
to see your penalty, kill you, know after the first,
period you know what it did against major, penalties and your,
Goaltender Daniel hauser was exceptional, too just like his Counterpart Alex.
Speaker 5 (02:44:40):
Tracy.
Speaker 34 (02:44:41):
YEAH i don't know if you're going to see two
goaltenders matched as those. Two And daniel just plays with
a lot of poise and he's got a lot of
fight In i'm after giving up, two you, know because
we'd put him on a little bit of an, island
and he absolutely shut the door from there on, out
including the. Shootouts so you, know we better do a
better job of protecting our home. Ice but they're a
(02:45:04):

you know you're only allotted so much time every week
to work on certain things with your hockey, team, Right, Yep.
Speaker 34 (02:45:24):
We've got to become a little more possession minded when
when we get into that three on, three and you know,
what we survived it and it is something that we'll
continue to work.
Speaker 2 (02:45:34):
On all.

more than they did from what they had last, night
because there were so many times, where you, know like
The badgers would take a penalty and who are we
going to do the penalty kill? With and he would
go with the premier. Players then they get on the
power play and they'd make get two or three really good,
shots and then it was an emic for the rest
(02:51:30):
of the power. Play and so you just you don't
know if you've learned anything as coaches about your team
