Speaker 1 (01:28):
Sow here in Schenectady, New York. My name is Aiden Michaels,
bringing you coverage of the National champion Badger women's hockey.
Speaker 2 (01:35):
It is the first game of.
Speaker 1 (01:36):
The Mini Tournament twenty twenty five Icebreaker Tournament here in
New York, hosted by Union College. The Badgers will take
on the Vermont Catamounts in a few moments here. Joining
me in a bit will be Paul Velucas, the strength
coach for the Badgers. He's down there getting things ready
before we start, and then he'll be with us on the.
Speaker 2 (01:56):
Call later on, subbing.
Speaker 1 (01:58):
In from our Green Hall and Paul Brown and who
cannot be with us for this weekend, but it's going
to be a fun one here in Schenectady for the Badgers.
Just looking at lineup changes. Rachel and Nicole Goobertanko have
yet to travel with the team. They're staying at home.
Of course, Leila Edwards, we've had her go down with
an injury and knee injury. It's undisclosed whether or not
she's going to be coming back in a couple of.
Speaker 2 (02:19):
Weeks or a couple months. We don't know.
Speaker 1 (02:20):
There's no information on that, but of course when it
becomes available, we will keep you guys updated, but we
don't have anything on that just yet. She did not
travel with the squad. She stays back in Madison.
Speaker 2 (02:32):
Of course.
Speaker 1 (02:32):
The starting goaltender today for the Badgers as always Ava McNaughton,
with a few shutouts to her name. Three this season
should have had for I always make that argument. She
had a shutout for two periods against Maine. They took
her out to the third period. Riyastu was able to
keep that shutout.
Speaker 2 (02:48):
But they did not credit her with a fourth.
Speaker 1 (02:50):
But she has about three and two thirds of a shoutout,
I would say this season, so she gets to start again.
For Vermont, we're still unsure who they're starting goalt is.
They've decided to go with all three of their goaltenders
in the last few games. They haven't found a starting
goaltender just yet. Lilly Prendergast, Zoe Cleish, and Ellie Simmons
(03:11):
will be the three that they'll have to choose from.
Speaker 2 (03:15):
Well, obviously keep you updated then.
Speaker 1 (03:17):
Usually we get the lineups about fifteen to twenty minutes
before puck drop. We are at that point, but we
have not gotten any information on that, so we'll have
to figure that out.
Speaker 2 (03:26):
But for now we're gonna have to guess.
Speaker 1 (03:28):
Maya Lawrence the additional forward for Vermont and for the Badgers,
it is Grace Bickett as Mackenzie Jones slots in on
that second defensive pairing in for Leila Edwards, so it'll
be Potter and Jones on that second line, Emma Venusio
Avea Murphy on that third, and then of course the
dynamic duo Caroline Harvey and Vivian Jungles on that first
(03:49):
defensive pairing. And then I mean the forwards look pretty
much the same for the Badgers, that dangerous first line,
Kirsten Simms, wha player of the week, starting on that
left wing at La Chappo Vallevova the center, and of
course Lacy.
Speaker 2 (04:03):
Eden on the right.
Speaker 1 (04:04):
And then that second line that just sneaks up on
ya Kelly Gorbotenko, Maggie's Scannell on the left and right,
centered by Cassie Hall. There's some tiesier Cassie Hall's siss or,
the assistant coach at Union College. If they win today,
and Union, of course wins later today, then they will
face off in the championship game tomorrow. And Maggie's Scannell,
the New York native from Upstate New York, has a
(04:25):
lot of family and attendance. In fact, I think they're
right below us here in the press box, so they
have come in numbers, a lot of Badger fans, more
than i'd expect being in upstate New York, quite far
from Madison, but a lot of fans and family members
have made the trip. So we're gonna take a tiny break.
Hopefully when we come back, Paul Velucas will be joining us.
(04:48):
But when we come back, we're gonna take a look
at the Coach's Corner presented by Fields Madison as I
had the opportunity to talk to head coach Mark Johnson
head of today's game, so we'll be right back. Stay
tuned here on ten to seventy of the game. Great
and welcome back to the pregame show here on ten
seventy game. Aiden Michael's here review.
Speaker 2 (05:09):
Paul F.
Speaker 1 (05:09):
Lucas will join us in a little bit. We're going
to take a listen here to my interview with Mark Johnson.
Speaker 2 (05:15):
Ahead of today's game.
Speaker 1 (05:16):
This is the Coach's Corner presented by Fields Madison, your
premier luxury auto group serving customers since nineteen seventy one.
Speaker 2 (05:23):
We'll have a listen. We're back at the pregame show.
Speaker 1 (05:27):
Aiden Michaels alongside the head coach of the Badger Rubbin's
hockey team, Mark Johnson.
Speaker 2 (05:31):
Mark, how's it going.
Speaker 6 (05:32):
It's going good, and anxious to play in at a
tournament this time of the season, so it's a sort
of out of our routine but exciting at the same
time because all four teams are playing for a trophy
and it should be a fun, good competition this weekend.
Speaker 1 (05:46):
So before we get into that, obviously big weekend last
week and against Minnesota Duluth, a great team, number four
in the nation. Tough game in the first the first
of the two games. Obviously got the win of the
end there, but then the second game a big shutout.
The feeling like after that.
Speaker 2 (06:01):
It was good.
Speaker 6 (06:02):
Obviously we're happy with both victories, but more importantly, you know,
the level of play had to go up because you're
playing against it a worthy opponent.
Speaker 2 (06:09):
They've got a very good.
Speaker 6 (06:10):
Goaltender, which we talked about prior to last weekend. She
played very well. But you know, we found a way
to win Saturday, and then we came out Sunday with
a good effort and we're able to sweep a very
good hockey team.
Speaker 2 (06:21):
So early in the season, it.
Speaker 6 (06:23):
Gives you more information, put your players in different situations
and settings, a little bit adversity in some of the games,
which is always healthy at this time of the year.
Speaker 7 (06:31):
And the big thing is to come back for us.
Speaker 6 (06:33):
On Tuesday and keep elevating our game and trying to
continue to get better. And that's what I'm looking for
this weekend, you know, to play a little bit better
in some areas than we did last weekend.
Speaker 2 (06:42):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (06:42):
So is there any difference in terms of preparation going
into a mini tournament like this rather than just a
normal series.
Speaker 6 (06:49):
Yeah, I mean it's new opponents, people that you don't
normally see. Obviously, you know, for playing league games, you
have a feel of what teams are going to do,
you have an understanding of some of their personnel. Where
this is you know, it's more about us this weekend
and what we're capable of doing, and you know, worrying
about the things.
Speaker 7 (07:06):
That we can control.
Speaker 6 (07:08):
Obviously, you're playing on the road, You're playing you know,
one team from Hockey East and then if you win,
you end up playing you know, a team from another league,
which is always health you know, always good. So it's
more about what our preparation looks like and what we're
able to do within this sixty minutes. And again, you know,
we've got six games under our belt. You know, we're
making strides in some areas and we just need to
(07:28):
continue to do that.
Speaker 1 (07:30):
And then talking about a couple of individual players. Avid
McNaughton obviously has a few shutouts already.
Speaker 2 (07:35):
If you just talk about her impact on the team.
Speaker 1 (07:36):
So far, obviously taking over as the main starter last
season and continuing her dominance so far this.
Speaker 2 (07:41):
Season, Yeah, she's done well.
Speaker 6 (07:43):
You know, in the past weekend, she looked much more
comfortable Sunday than she did Saturday. But that's part of
the process as the team are going through. You know,
the kids with the national team weren't with us all week,
you know, miss five or six days of practice and
then you jump into a game. And it was nice
that she rebounded Sunday and it looked more comfortable.
Speaker 7 (08:02):
She just you know, made saves when she needed to
make saves and gave us a chance to win.
Speaker 6 (08:07):
And with the goaltending position, and she's been able to
do it, you know since she was a freshman that
in most of the games she's going to give us
an opportunity to win and that's all you can ask
of her. So she's gotten better, she's more confident, and
you know, we're looking forward to continue that.
Speaker 2 (08:22):
And what about Cassie Hall. Obviously a great player.
Speaker 1 (08:24):
She has a chance to match up against her sister
tomorrow and I'm sure it's going to be a fun
one for her. But just her development from even last
season to now, how it's been.
Speaker 6 (08:34):
Yeah, she's a good player, she's you know, she's said
a couple of really solid years for us, and so
for her, you know that consistency.
Speaker 2 (08:41):
Can I be good every shift?
Speaker 6 (08:43):
Can I be good every game? Because she's a wonderful
skilled player, she's a good skater and has the capabilities
of changing games. And so she's gotten off to a
good start, which excites me. And hopefully she can continue
and be consistent the rest of the year.
Speaker 2 (08:56):
All right, thank you, goach, thank you.
Speaker 1 (09:00):
All right, the Badgers are now skating onto the ice.
Fans are ready here in Schenectady. We are at the
new M and T Bank Center. It's a beautiful place.
I can see why they tried to host this tournament.
They've done a good job so far on the men's
side and on the women's side.
Speaker 2 (09:16):
We expect it to be the same. There's about three
press boxes here, all in a row.
Speaker 1 (09:20):
There's the ESPN Plus broadcast next to us on the left,
and then the Union College press box on the left
of that and joining us. Now, Paul Velucas is coming
from under Let's see if we can get them going here.
Speaker 2 (09:33):
Can you hear us? I? Can you guys hear me?
Speaker 1 (09:36):
How's it going? We are on the air right now
in the pregame show. It's gonna be a big one.
Badger's back on the ice now. The catament's on as well. Paul,
what are we thinking?
Speaker 2 (09:45):
I think it's going to be a good test for
the Badgers. Obviously it's a slightly smaller rink than the
Bond so it'll be a good test to see how
they do in a smaller rink in a faster game
coming out east. So yeah, I think it'll be a
good matchup for us.
Speaker 1 (09:58):
And we're just talking about how this is new arena.
It's looking good. It's a beautiful arena. Not a bad
press box either, and underground looks pretty good too.
Speaker 2 (10:06):
Absolutely not a bad seat in the house. You can
see that, well, you guys can't, but we can't really
a nice, beautiful rank, really good sitelines. Yeah, it's gonna
be a great place to watch hockey for years to come.
Speaker 1 (10:19):
Yeah, And just talking about players to look out for. Obviously,
Avian mcnontton has been one of the most dominant players
in the w CHA. Shirley one of the most dominant
goaltenders to start the season in the league or in
the nation. I would say, just her impact on this team,
what have you seen?
Speaker 2 (10:34):
I mean, you know, she just brings a level of
calm to the group that I think can't be understated. Obviously,
incredibly technical goalie, really great athlete as well, So that
sets her up for a lot of success. And you know,
I think you're going to see that she'll be the
backbone for this team's success for a long time.
Speaker 1 (10:52):
Yeah, certainly an amazing goaltender. Obviously, was split in time
with Jane Gervay a few seasons ago, became the official
number one starter last season. Has played every game so
far this season. Badgers are six and zero. On the
other side, Vermont one two and one. They were zero
and two to start the season against Penn State and
then they were able to split the series with Saint Lawrence.
They got a tie in the first game, and then
finally got their first win of the season against UH
(11:15):
Saint Lawrence in that second game.
Speaker 2 (11:17):
What do you think that does for the confidence?
Speaker 1 (11:19):
Obviously they know they're going to play against a tough
team in Wisconsin, number one team in the nation, undefeated,
defending national champs.
Speaker 2 (11:24):
But now that they've got that win under their belt,
does that change anything for them? Do you think? I
imagine it does. And obviously, you know, you want to
play your best against the best, so you know, this
isn't obviously a home game for Vermont, but they're traveling
a lot less far than the Badgers are, so I
expect they're going to bring their best. And you know,
you want to see a good test for the Badgers,
and I think Vermont's going to bring it today.
Speaker 1 (11:45):
I want to get some not score predictions, but who
we think is going to score first?
Speaker 2 (11:48):
I want to say Maggie Scandals.
Speaker 1 (11:50):
She's got a lot of family members right in front
of us here in the crowd. Obviously, being from up
state New York, it's sort of a homecoming for her.
Speaker 2 (11:56):
That's my prediction. I think that's a pretty good prediction.
I would be remissed it. You know, I think I
would definitely put my money on this first line which
is Scannal, Gorb, Tanco and Hall. They've been really buzzing
this year. So if it's not Scannal, I think she'll
be involved in a couple of scoring plays for sure.
Speaker 1 (12:13):
Absolutely, And just looking at some of the accolades that
these Badger players have gotten last week, Forward of the
Week in the WCCHA Kirsten Simms and then Defender of
the Week Caroline Harvey. Obviously Caroline Harvey being one of
the best players I've ever seen live. I mean, she's incredible.
Just watching her at practice the other day was insane.
I mean, obviously her impact in this team has been unreal.
Getting the see again this year. Obviously Casey O'Brien was
(12:35):
one of the captains last year, now she's the sole captain.
But I mean Caroline Harvey just getting this team going.
Speaker 2 (12:40):
Yeah, She's always been just an incredible impact player for
the Badgers, and I mean she does all the little
things incredibly well, which is why she's such an impact
player for us.
Speaker 1 (12:49):
All Right, well we're going to take a quick break
as the national antheant goes underways. They tuned on ten
to seventy the game.
Speaker 2 (12:54):
We'll be right back.
Speaker 1 (13:00):
Welcome you, Side M and Team Banks Center here in Schenectady,
New York on ten seventy the game.
Speaker 2 (13:06):
My name is Aiden Michaels.
Speaker 1 (13:07):
I'm joined by the Badgers strength coach Paul Velucas. There's
a big one in store here between the Vermont Catamounts
and the number one undefeated Wisconsin Badgers. Paul, we were
just talking about in the pre game. It's gonna be
a good one today. Absolutely.
Speaker 2 (13:20):
I mean it's gonna be a fun test for the
Badgers again, coming out East. We don't get an opportunity
to do that too often, so it'll be fun to
play against somebody who's not in the WCHA. It'll be
fun to play against a good Vermont team who's coming
off with big victory. So I think we're gonna have
some good, high paced hockey today. Absolutely.
Speaker 1 (13:38):
Badger's coming off a big series win against the number
four ranked Minnesota du Luke Bulldogs, a tight win. In
the first game, they were down late in the third,
they tied it up with twenty seconds to go and
then won it with eight seconds. And then in the
next game the next day they had a big shutout
against that team. What kind of statement do you think
that makes beating a team like that the number four
team in the nation.
Speaker 2 (13:59):
I really think, I mean, I think that that first
game that is a you know, that's an identity setter
type of win. Obviously, you've got a lot of players
from this roster that were on last year's roster. But
every year is a new year, and so I think
going up against a well coached, a good Delouse team
and being able to pull out a victory as quickly
or at you know, the back end of that game
(14:21):
is huge. It brings a lot of confidence. It kind
of sets the tone for that freshman class. They understand
what it takes to win in the WCHA. So I
think it's going to be an identity setter for this team.
Speaker 1 (14:31):
And it looks like we're getting that second line starting
out on the ice, Gorbatanko, Hall and Scannal, the hometown kid,
Jungles and Harvey in the back for the Badgers. McNaughton
end goal, and we are set to get underway here
from Schenectady. So Park has been dropped and the Catamounts
win the draw. Here's Levis lumping that one down, stepped
(14:53):
in and then sent out by Harvey going the other way.
Speaker 2 (14:56):
Chasing it is cocovec.
Speaker 1 (14:58):
Chasing is Scannal into the co sent them across the
podine up ahead now to O'Hara, stopped up by Gorbatenko.
Scannal get to back to Harvey. Harvey gave it away,
but offside go the Catamounts put start here to this game.
Catamounts on the attack already.
Speaker 2 (15:17):
I mean, I think for them, they're going to have
to get it going pretty quickly. Obviously a smaller rank.
You really want to keep the Badgers in their own
zone and attack as best you can, because if they
let them get going, it's gonna be a tough one
based off.
Speaker 1 (15:31):
Now outside of the Badger zone, going by chap of
Valevova Potter at center ice the chap of Valleevova into
Eden on the left side is Sims. Sims drops it
back off for Potter trying to keep it into the line.
Speaker 2 (15:46):
Can't be kept in.
Speaker 1 (15:47):
Here come the Catamounts on a two on one. Now
Broshew off the pad or off the blocker. Excuse me
of McNaughton, early chance there for the Catamounts. Here come
the Badgers the other way. On the counter attack, Eden
from the left circle, tied up there with George puck
comes free and picked up by Broshu. Bro Shoe taking
it up for the Catamounts. Picked off by Shappavelli Vova
(16:10):
but doesn't see Eden who was in an offside position,
and we get a whistle.
Speaker 2 (16:16):
Really good chance by Vermont there. Obviously you know, a
short ice so to speak, situation where they get to
drive the net. But a really good opportunity there by
Vermont to start the game. Yeah, two on one chance.
Speaker 1 (16:27):
You're not going to get many of those against this
pager team got to take advantage, but a good save
by mcnont Badgers win the draw again. Halverson sends it
down behind the goal. Simmons sends out one across for
the Cottamounts, kept in by Murphy for the Badgers and
right going download a book card to the point to
Murphy on the left side, gets it back down behind
(16:50):
the goal, chasing it his end right into the opposite
corner and then cleared it away in the center ice,
picked up by Murphy and then Venusio has it Venusio
up to Murphy at center ice, Murphy taking it in
on that left side, gets tripped up penalty coming up
against the Catamounts and the Badgers are going to head
to the power play less than two minutes into this game.
Speaker 2 (17:10):
A tripping call. What a good play by Murphy to
draw that penalty. Really high level skating there to get
into the zone, kind of cutting towards the circle and
being able to draw that penalty. Get us on the
power play.
Speaker 1 (17:22):
And it'll be the second penalty of the season for McKenna.
Lloyd Howe from British Columbia. She will sit in the
box and the Badgers can get their power play going
three out of their four goals against Minnesota Duluth in
that second game last weekend. For from the power play,
here's Simms to Harvey up the middle. Harvey is shot,
(17:43):
saved and gloved there by Simmons.
Speaker 2 (17:47):
What a shot by Harvey right in the slot. A
very good opportunity for the Badgers to start this power
playoff and.
Speaker 1 (17:54):
Just nine seconds in the Badgers already creating a good
chance on the player advantage face off up now to
the left of Simmons. Catamounts win the draw. Kokovec clears
it away off the glove of Potter took a nice
bounce for the Catamounts. Lewis, trying to waste some time,
sent it down behind the goal, whiffs on it, gives
(18:15):
it away to Harvey. Tried to find Potter, gave it
away big Nonton needs to make a play and does
cammonly done to find Harvey. Harvey to Sims at center.
Ice drops the back off for Harvey. Answering the zone
on the right side. Harvey makes a move going toward goal.
The centering pass looking for Eden went off her skate.
(18:35):
Harvey picks it up again at the left point. Harvey
going in the middle. Fans on the pass, still has it,
rips a shot, had a score tipped in front, and
it's a power play goal for the Badgers. They lead
one nothing.
Speaker 2 (18:49):
Holy Moly, what a great individual effort right there by
KK Harvey to settle the puck down and send a
wicked rister towards the net. And good redirect by I
believe it was Eden who redirected that.
Speaker 1 (19:02):
Yep, looks like it as you said, an amazing solo
effort there from Harvey. Great tip in front by Eden.
Badgers get it going on the power play and it's
one nothing now for of their last five goals had
been on the power play, and it's tough to say.
Is the one non power play goal which happened last
weekend against Minnesota Dluth was Landy Potter. It happened about
(19:23):
a second and a half after the power play. Essentially
a power play goal, but on the statuet it's not
going to sell.
Speaker 2 (19:31):
I don't remember how many power play opportunities they had,
but they certainly got a fair amount of chances last week.
So oh yeah, good that they got some goals out
of it.
Speaker 1 (19:39):
A lot of penalty minutes from both teams, very physical
series that was.
Speaker 2 (19:44):
Scannal picks it up.
Speaker 1 (19:45):
Here's Murphy who drew that tripping call to set up
the power play goal for the Badgers, tipped along by Gorbetenko.
Simmons has to come out to make a play and
does Codeine gives it away.
Speaker 2 (19:57):
Picked up now in the corner by Scota.
Speaker 1 (20:01):
Kokovec over to Captain Podine, stretch past. Did it take
a touch, Yes it did, no icing McNaughton has to
come out, gets it away from Scota, picked up by Hall.
Scannal dispossessed. Here come the catamouse the other way. Matson
drops it back for mess Pled takes up in the corner,
(20:24):
give it away. Murphy gets it to Hall, who skates
it behind the goal. Pressuring still is Matson hal still
up with it at center ice, taking it on the
left side, dumps it to the corner and goes for
a change. On comes peak In. Hogen tries to keep
it for the Badgers, can't do it. Mattson gets it
up the head to mess Pled. Mess Plaid on the
(20:45):
left side, shovels it toward Gold behind the net, off
the end boards. Mess Pled picks it up again in
the corner, Jungles trying to poke it away Peak and
Hagen as well. It comes free for Harvey behind the goal.
Sixteen minutes remain here in the first period, Badger's a
one nothing lead. Peak In Hoggin sends that one down.
(21:07):
Chasing it there is Zarcony. Harvey at the point rips
the shot sticked away by Simmons. Badgers keep the zone
at the point is McCarthy sends that one into an
open corner. Zarcone sends it across the defense partner George
and up ahead stretch pass who was looking there for
(21:29):
Lloyd Half A nice defensive play by Harvey Schapa Vallee Vova.
Speaker 2 (21:37):
To Eden.
Speaker 1 (21:39):
Eden sends that one down load, chasing it to Sims
who gets there and gets it on the left side.
Left circle is Potter. Potter rips the shot up high
on Simmons, who hangs on to it.
Speaker 2 (21:51):
Just a good back and forth there. I'm gonna give
a lot of credit right there to Vermont. They've done
a good job creating offensive chances against the Badgers don't
come easily. They're they're doing a good job for checking.
They're taking off, you know, trying to get to the
net as quickly as they can. Padger's win the draw.
Speaker 1 (22:08):
It's Potter Potter left circle, skating to the corner, goes
behind the net to find Eden.
Speaker 2 (22:14):
Eden trying to get it back.
Speaker 1 (22:15):
To Potter, intercepted there by O'Hara. O'Hara gets it up,
tries to clear his own and does gets it to Lewis.
Lewis shovels it to center ice chap of Valley Vova
with the interception. Potter now on the left side, Potter
sends it in the corner. She's gonna dump in chase
picked up behind the goal by Eden. Eden, looking for
(22:36):
an option find Sims in the left corner, skating to
the point. Sims, still with it up the middle, makes
another move. Sims toad drag shots save, rebound is loose,
come free for Potter, it goes in. It's a goal.
Never mind, it looked like a good save and you
have to be disappointed if you're Ellie Simmons, who it
(22:56):
looks like made the initial save, but that it must
have just trickled in.
Speaker 2 (23:00):
What a heartbreaker right there for the goalie really laid out,
you know, good stop initially on Sims, a little bit
of traffic in front, spreads out hoping to you know,
stop the shot from going in low and looks like
it just trickles in in the back end.
Speaker 1 (23:14):
I mean, I'm with you. I didn't think that was
a goal. I thought that was an incredible save. And
then it didn't even look like the Badgers were celebrating.
But the referee with the with the signal, Wow, was
that Potter that scored? Who was it was? If Potter
was leading the line when they were given high fives.
I guess no one poked it in. It may have
just trickled in, just trickled in. Simmons lost it there,
but either way. Just over five minutes gone in this
(23:37):
first period. The Badger's up to nothing now already seven
shots on goal in the opening five minutes for the Badgers.
We see a trend happening. When a lot of teams
play the Badgers, the goaltender always sets their career high
and saved.
Speaker 2 (23:54):
That's very true. It's I don't remember what the record
is for Lebonn, but it's in the sixties, I believe.
So you gotta bring your a game when you when
you come see the Badgers as a goaltender.
Speaker 1 (24:06):
Oh yeah, most definitely given away there. Havana takes it
back up, poked down by bro Shue. As the Catamounts
go for a change, Lloyd Howe gets around and right
makes another nice move. Lloyd how takes a shot blocked
by Potter, kept in by the cattlemounts. Here's George at
the right point across the brochure who lost it, kept
(24:30):
in by Hemp off her own teammate still kept in
though by Hemp at the point gets locked up. Here
Jones and Pakar trying to get it free, and they
do and Potter picks it up. Great move there, second
ago by Lloyd Howe it's by three Badgers.
Speaker 2 (24:46):
Great individual effort to try and get her team going. Uh,
really great. A opportunity shot from the slot.
Speaker 1 (24:53):
Shot from center ice there trickles off the pad of Simmons.
Here Temp now in her own zone for the Catamounts,
turning away from Gorbutenko, who's applying pressure as well as Maggie.
Speaker 2 (25:06):
Scannal, who wins.
Speaker 1 (25:07):
The puck back for the Badgers, gets it to center
ice for Venusio. Gorbtenko touches it along. George skates into
the corner. Scanneal trying to get it free. Murphy at
the point sends it back down behind the goal, chasing
it his Scannal getting there before Hemp does, shovels it
to the point for Venusio. Venusio, nice move to get
(25:30):
it to Scannal looking for Gorbtenko, but it's taken away
and here's Lloyd how to skate it out of the zone.
Scannal picks it right back up at center ice, comes
free for Murphy for the Badgers. Here comes Gorbtenko on
the right side. Now Gourbetenko drops it off stick there
by retrom Venusio keeps it in for the Badgers. Here's Hall.
(25:51):
Murphy wants it, gets it, takes the shot, save made
Gurbetenko behind the net, The wraparound goes wide.
Speaker 2 (25:58):
Good opportunity that Gorbutenko there.
Speaker 1 (26:00):
Good look from Kelly Murphy now looking for a tip
in front, goes off of Gord Potenco and then why
to the goal for Potenko behind the net now centering
that one goes off the side of the goals, stays
behind it. Peekin Hoggin trying to get it free, and
it's taken away there by O'Hara, and finally the Catamounts
can get it free and out of their zone.
Speaker 2 (26:21):
Really good job by the Badger's there, not letting Vermont
get a change and getting some really good opportunities in
doing so.
Speaker 1 (26:28):
That one's thrown to the goal and off the stick
of mcdontin, goes out of play and a face off
to come.
Speaker 2 (26:34):
Obviously, it's been all Badgers.
Speaker 1 (26:36):
Ten shots so far, two goals, just two for Vermont,
but a couple of good looks for the Catamounts.
Speaker 2 (26:41):
Absolutely, man again, if you're Vermont, you got to just
keep playing the way you played in the first few
minutes of the first period, and you got to just
keep driving the net, trying to create opportunities. You know,
it's you got to take this Badger team on head on.
You can't wait for them to do things because again
they're too skilled, they're too fast.
Speaker 1 (26:59):
Badger's draw pressing there is Brochu, but McCarthy settles it.
Harvey gets tripped up and the Badgers are going to
head to another power play and another tripping call going
against Vermont.
Speaker 2 (27:11):
Gotta stay out of the box as well. That one's tough.
Speaker 1 (27:15):
It may have been a hook. Actually, I'm not sure
we'll hear from referee Daniel Goslin going to the box though,
No matter what is Rose Murray Brocho and now the
Badger's heading to another power play. They had a pretty
dominant one early on, got the goal. See what they
can do in this one. Eleven twenty seven to go
here in the opening period, Badgers win the draw, Harvey
(27:37):
gets it to Sims, Sims in space, rips the shot
over the goal, picked up by Potter. Potter behind the
goal trying to get it to Eden comes free trying
to clear it on the second attempt does as a
couple of the Catamounts can go for a change. Badger's
staying out. Here comes Harvey quarterbacking this power play speed
(28:00):
on the left side taking it in. Here comes Harvey,
got tied up. Badgers' first power play goal started from
a great solo effort from Harvey.
Speaker 2 (28:08):
Good one there, absolutely, just using her superior skating skills
to get from you know, point A to point B
in a hurry. So let's see if they can set
up a good power play opportunity here and get some
some touches in the zone.
Speaker 1 (28:24):
Well, here's Harvey again on the right side. Oh, Eaton
couldn't stay onside as Harvey tried that little stutter step
fooled eating and we've got a face off outside the
zone here with ten thirty six to go. There's a
cheesehead in the in the crowd there.
Speaker 2 (28:39):
Absolutely, it looks like we got a fair amount of
Badgers fans in the stands. They travel well, which is
great to see. It's fun to have them on the
road with us.
Speaker 1 (28:47):
Absolutely, here's Murphy now on the left side, entering the
zone for the Badgers. Sends that one hard around looking
for Cassie. Hall gets their second but picks up the
puck to get it to Gorbatenkotenko to Hall at the
point now is Jungles. Jungles slides it across to Murphy.
Murphy centering pass taken away and then cleared by Havana.
Speaker 2 (29:10):
Good block by Vermont create an opportunity to dump it
back into the Badger zone and kill off some time
on this penalty.
Speaker 1 (29:17):
Just thirty seven seconds remain in the power play for
the Badgers. Murphy again on that left side, sends that
one or tries to send it fans on it gets
behind the goal now for Gorbatenko Gorbertenko to the right
point to haul in the middle to Jungles left circle.
Murphy is shot deflective and then off the pad of Simmons.
Speaker 2 (29:39):
Kept in by the Badgers.
Speaker 1 (29:40):
Hall sends that one to Gorbatenko behind the net, centering
pass nobody there in white and then cleared away by Zarconi.
Power play winding down. Last chance maybe for the Badgers,
but it's taken away. Here's O'Hara short handed. O'Hara takes
the shot, goof by McNaughton and out of the box
and to the bench comes brochure.
Speaker 2 (30:03):
Yeah, that was a you know, not a not a
great showing by the Badger power play. Obviously, good job
by Vermont blocking shots and getting the puck into the
zone to kill off some time and good opportunity there
by Vermont to you know, create a scoring opportunity at
the back end the power play or PK so to speak.
Speaker 1 (30:22):
So yeah, nine to twenty five, remainning here in the
first period media timeout, we're going to take a time
out as well. You're listening to Badger Women's Hockey on
ten seventy the game presented by Oak Park Place.
Speaker 2 (30:32):
Don't go anywhere, we'll be right back.
Speaker 1 (30:38):
And broad room back for that media time out. Nine
twenty five to go here I the first Badger's lead
to nothing even Michael's Paul Pae Lucas here on ten
to seventy the game face off now for the right
of Ava McNaughton in the Badger zone. O'Hara and Picard
on the draw one by Picard into the corner for
Venusio to collect, get it to Mackenzie Jones up ahead
looking for Bicard goes all the way down for an
(31:01):
icing against the Badgers, and the face off will come
all the way back into the Badger's zone.
Speaker 2 (31:06):
Tough bounced there as the Badgers try to get the
puck out of the zone and start their own rush.
You know, obviously that always that sometimes happens, though, so
you know, good opportunity for Vermont to see what they
can create in the Badger's zone.
Speaker 1 (31:19):
Yeah, I mean it's a win for them to get
a face off in the zone, hopefully try and win
a draw, get a shot to the goal. Badgers win
the dry and right loses the though. Kokovec sends it
behind the net, Venusio pressing Scott up against the boards,
and then the Badgers take it for a three on
two chance. Now up the middle, is Halverson slides it
(31:40):
across the Bacard down low, no touch, goes into the corner.
Venusio at the point sends it back behind the goal,
pushed from behind there by Bicard and then taken away
by O'Hara. Chasing it to the corner is Picard, who
gets it back for Wisconsin. Jones trying to keep it in.
Picard taken down lose his possession. O'Hara picks it up
(32:03):
behind the goal in the catamountain zone. O'Hara gets it
out of the zone, gets it up ahead to Scott.
Nice play there from Jones to get it to zillash.
Halverson now lifts it up ahead, looking for Picard at
the blue line. Now is Hemp up ahead to Havana.
(32:25):
Havana staying on side gets it to Skota down on
the corner. Venusio for the Badgers, picks it up, shovels
it along to peak In. Hogin skips over her stick
back behind the goal. Now is Jones, He's zillish Jillius
to McCarthy. McCarthy at center ice sends it up ahead
to peak In.
Speaker 2 (32:43):
Hogen but off side is called ooh, good time for
that badger decore to get a change. Jones and Venusia
had been out there for a good bit of time,
so good that they were able to get a change
there and get fresh legs on the ice.
Speaker 1 (32:58):
The cat of Mountains doing the same thing. They have
a full change, and now is gonna be a They're
gonna move this face off the center ice. I think
mess plaid and McCarthy on the draw. McCarthy wins it cleanly. Harvey,
now being chased by Lloyd Howe, gets it up to
Jungles at center ice, jumps it down, chasing his peak
(33:20):
and Hogin Simmons out to collect the goaltender for a
Vermont gives it away to Jungles. McCarthy keeps it in
for the Badgers at the right point. McCarthy beeps around
her teammate Jungles, but it gets taken away and taken
out of the zone. But it's picked right back up
by Jungles, spinning away there from Hemp. Here's McCarthy now
(33:44):
long stretch pass up ahead to Peak and Hogen shovels
out one behind the goal, finds Jungles in the corner.
Jungles overskates it taken away now by Mason Darcy. Matson
gives it away at center ice to Harvey for the Badgers,
who spins away from Lloyd Howe. Here's Eden on the
right side in the zone, stretch pass looking for shape
(34:04):
of Valivova, couldn't find her. Sims now behind the goal. Murphy,
now on the left side, skating into the corner, drops
it back for Sims. Sims kept into the point by
shape of Vlivova. Eden now behind the net, being pressed
up against the boards, but it comes free, Eden spinning
(34:24):
away there and centering it to Sims a shot gloves
saved by Simmons.
Speaker 2 (34:30):
Very good opportunity. By this Sims Eden line. Great opportunity
there set up by Eden back of the net to
find Sims cutting right in the slot. Get a great
a opportunity.
Speaker 1 (34:41):
And you know normally Sims doesn't miss from those spots that.
Speaker 2 (34:44):
She No, she does not. She has made a habit
of scoring goals from those that area. So a good
saved by the Vermont goaltender there.
Speaker 1 (34:52):
Badger's pick it right back up off the draw. Eden
gets pressed against the boards. It's picked up by O'Hara,
who can clear the zone us up ahead lost it
there was retrom kept in by the Catamounts out Olhara
takes a shot wide of the goal. Murphy hoopes it
away from Retrom there behind the goal. Potter in her
(35:13):
own zone for the Badgers, trying to skate it out
and does, but she gives it away. Potter wins it
right back though at center ice is eating Sims on
the right side. Sim still with it, tries to find
Murphy gave it away, falls nicely though for Sims again,
who picks it right back up, slides it across the hall.
Hal takes a shot, took a deflection and over the goal.
(35:35):
Sims right back for the Badgers makes a nice move here,
Sims up the middle, speaks again. Sims on the right side,
taken away penaly coming up against Kirsten Sims. Looks like
it's going to be a hole there.
Speaker 2 (35:50):
Yeah, that's a tough one for the Badgers to take.
Hard to say whether that was intentional or not. You know,
finished up, removed, fuck gets knocked Lewis and she ends
up skating right into the Vermont player. So sort of
an inadvertent penalty, but a penalty nonetheless.
Speaker 1 (36:08):
Yeah, just tied up there with Brochu, who draws the penalty.
Took a penalty earlier on in this game. Now puts
her team on the power play, and now we get
the first look at the Vermont power play that was
Badger penalty killed Pacard and O'Hara on the drop. Picard
wins it, Harvey Fans on the clearance attent works out though,
and then Zarcony chasing it there with En right En
(36:31):
right short handed wins the puck back centering past Pacard
shot off the skate there of O'Hara.
Speaker 2 (36:36):
Really good individual effort there by n Wright in great
job Percard following up to create a really good short
handed opportunity and.
Speaker 1 (36:44):
Now the Badgers can kill some time. It's Harvey behind
the goal, hangs on to it for a bit and
then sends it down chasing it is end right chance
to get it back for the Badgers. Simmons coming out
to make a play and does so nicely. Here is
Brochu on the right. On the left side the zone
gets by Harvey loses the puck, though Jungles tries to
get it clear. Scoto behind the net, a couple of
(37:07):
Badgers tied up with a few catamounts. Browshoe tries to
get it away from Harvey. Dan Zaris gets it to
the corner, goes all the way to the point for Hemp.
Hemp gets pushed behind and Harvey picks the puck up,
clears it away for a third time, only as far
as Kokovec at center ice. Kokovec a nice move to
get around Harvey, enters the zone on the right side,
(37:30):
sends it back behind the goal. Forty five seconds remain
in the power play for Vermont. Eden clears the zone,
chasing it his scannal. Simmons comes out of recrease to
make the play in the corner and shovels it to
the opposite corner to find mess plag doesn't really look
like a power play for Vermont, does it.
Speaker 2 (37:50):
No, it really doesn't. I mean the Badgers are doing
a good job really pressuring and not letting them get
a chance to set up to create those opportunities. So
I think it's started off with that n right and Picard,
you know, series kind of set the tone for that
the PK And here we are a good opportunity right
here by McCarthy.
Speaker 1 (38:08):
Here's McCarthy shorthanded, a save made by Simmons gets up
to the point of Fernusio Venusio short handed, three seconds
left in the power play, and out of the box
comes Simms. Best look at the player advantage is McCarthy
levels Lloyd Howe in the neutral zone and McCarthy had
(38:28):
the best chance out of both teams that power play.
Speaker 2 (38:31):
Percent She is a downhill type of player, does a
really great job when she is moving north south and
she creates opportunities there. So good job by Fin McCarthy.
Speaker 1 (38:42):
Trickles out of the zone, goes all the way back
and it does reach for an icing as Potter touches
up three nineteen to go here in the first period,
Badgers with twelve shots and two goals, Vermont with just
three shots and nothing to show for it. Just yet
a busy night for the goaltender, Ellie Simmons.
Speaker 2 (38:59):
Though I mean, I think you know, obviously getting twelve
shots on goal is a great way to start the game.
But I gotta give some credit to the Badgers on
the back end defensively. They did a really nice job
not letting a lot of these opportunities. These shorthanded opportunities
by Vermont turn into anything place off.
Speaker 1 (39:15):
One by the Catamounts cleared away, but they can't clear
the zone. Potter keeps it in a second time, tries
to send that one down. Eden picks it back up,
gets it away from cocovec Potter at the left point,
slides it across to bick it a shot tipped and
wide to the goal. Eden centering pass doesn't get through.
Here's Sims in the corner. Sims download to Eden eating
(39:41):
on the left side, skating to the point, drops it
back off for Potter, who gets hit at the blue line.
Kept in by the Badgers. Though Sims gave it away
to Hemp, Hemp gives it right back to Sims, gets
it to Potter on the left side. Potter, nice move,
falseter a, knee.
Speaker 2 (39:56):
Stays with it.
Speaker 1 (39:57):
Pickets skated out of the zone, so it turned over
up ahead now to Brochue loses it in the neutral
zone and it trickles back into the Badger zone for
Potter to collect. Potter given away centering past great stick
there by McNaughton. Big chance out in front of the Catamounts,
but it was stopped by McNaughton getting her stick in
(40:19):
front of that puck. A lot of back and forth
here in the last few seconds.
Speaker 2 (40:26):
Yeah, we've got an upticking energy, so to speak, here
and see what comes of it.
Speaker 1 (40:32):
There's a shot there and it was by Harvey No Scannal,
I believe, yep, Yeah, you got that one before I did.
You should just take over it.
Speaker 2 (40:39):
No, I don't think I could do a very good job.
Speaker 1 (40:43):
Orbatenko started that play, got one of the net, took
an aflection and then Scannal for the nice shot on
goal saved by Simmons though just under two minutes to go.
Here in the opening period, face off to the left
of Simmons in the catamount zone. Badgers win the drug
Orbitenko gets at the hall haul nice move inside finds
Harvey a shot save made by Simmons looked like she
(41:04):
didn't see it for the last second. Here's Gore Patenko now.
Speaker 2 (41:07):
Really good set up by Haul there and really quick
release by Harvey to get a nice shot on goal.
Speaker 1 (41:13):
And here she is again, Caroline Harvey on the right side.
So the net centering pass gave it away to retrom.
Harvey somehow gets that puck. I don't even know how
she got there. I took my off for a second
and she was on the other side.
Speaker 2 (41:25):
Of the ice. I you know, I think that's what
we're all asking ourselves a lot of times when Kk's
on the ice, is how did she get that puck again?
You know, shoot the puck on the right side of
the ice and then somehow retrieve it on the left
before anyone else touches it. But that's why, I guess,
you know, what makes KK Harvey so special.
Speaker 1 (41:40):
Absolutely one of the many things. Ninety seconds to go
here in the first period, face off again in the
Catamountain zone to the left of Simmons Catle Mountains win
the draw given away though and taken by Halverson at
the left. Hash slapper from venousa you know, a knuckle
puck goes wide of the goal, may have taken a deflection.
(42:03):
Murphy on the left point to Venusio. Venusio off the
boards to find Halverson in the corner, taking back away
and then given away to the Badgers once more. Here's
Venusio at the right point. Murphy on the left side
takes a shot off the skate there of Zarconi. Murphy
another slapper blocked by paccarch. He takes it though a
(42:24):
great save by Simmons on the pad after the shot
from Picard.
Speaker 2 (42:31):
Great opportunity there by the Badgers set up by an
Avin Murphy shot. I think it was a rebound to
Picard and then another shot on net. A really good
opportunity there. I like this third line. I think they're
the engine of the Badgers. So I think I think
the game's gonna as the game goes on, they're gonna
keep getting good opportunities like that.
Speaker 1 (42:49):
And I'm trying to look at the what the referee
just did with his hand signal looked like he said
roughing going against Venusio. We're gonna look at the replay.
Here we'll try and there's the shot. I don't know
it's a penalty at Mma Venusio, no matter what.
Speaker 2 (43:03):
I don't see what. I'm trying to take a look
a bit.
Speaker 1 (43:06):
Oh oh, it looks like Venusio kind of just one
hand shoved one of the catamounts down to the ice. Yeah,
I guess it's.
Speaker 2 (43:14):
Enough for a rough I guess. So I'm not an
expert on the rules. I don't know. You know, the
refs have a hard job, so we'll let them pass
on this one exactly.
Speaker 1 (43:23):
Yeah, they know best, and so they put Venusia on
the box for two minutes. So the Badgers for the
final forty seconds are gonna have to kill off this penalty.
Brochu down load. It took a deflection, never got to
the goal, kept in by Hemp at the left point.
To Broch, you to Hemp across the Cocovec Cocovec toa drag,
(43:45):
takes a shot, oh my goodness, off the head of
her teammate and it almost falls in Holy Molly wow.
And it's cleared away. Final thirteen seconds to go chasing
his McCarthy. But it looked like Cocovek was looking for it.
I don't know if she was looking for a tip
or just missed that shot but hit our teammate right
in the head.
Speaker 2 (44:02):
I would have been a redirect off the ear. That
was a new one.
Speaker 1 (44:05):
I've never seen that one before, either of I and
that will do it. Ice. Thing's not gonna happen because
the period ends. Two nothing Badgers, sixteen shots for them,
just four for Vermont. When they come back, it'll be
the second half of that power play for the Catamounts.
But we are going to take a quick break before
we head to the intermission. Report on ten savy to
(44:26):
the game, Aidan, Michaels, Paul Lucas, two nothing Badgers after one.
Speaker 2 (44:30):
We'll be right back.
Speaker 3 (44:34):
This is Wisconsin Women's Hockey by both park Plays.
Speaker 1 (44:41):
And we welcome you back to the intermission report and
you're on ten tavy to the game. Aidean Michaels, Paul
Lucas here with you. We are joined now by mister
Jake Ross. We had you on the broadcast a couple
of weeks ago. We have you on again. How you doing,
I'm doing all right, thanks, Eden, absolutely so. What did
you see in the first period? Obviously pretty dominant for
the Badgers. Nothing out of the ordinary here, but anything
you say.
Speaker 4 (45:00):
Yeah, no, the trend the last few games, I think
has been all power play for the Badgers, and they
hopped right on that right away for the first goal.
Speaker 1 (45:07):
It was kind of funny to start the season.
Speaker 4 (45:10):
I think we're like one for fourteen on the power play,
but we just scored our six power play goal in
our last three games, so we've definitely heightened that up
a bit.
Speaker 2 (45:19):
Absolutely.
Speaker 1 (45:19):
And then anything you think the Badgers need to improve
heading into this second period?
Speaker 4 (45:23):
Oh, you know the Badgers, they have their routine pretty
locked down, and you know they like to stay loose
in between periods, and I think any changes they need
to make are pretty small and personal, and all those
players know what they need to do better. So I
think if they just go out there and keep doing
what they're doing, they'll be just fine.
Speaker 1 (45:42):
Yeah, and Paul and I were talking about on the
broadcast the amount of works that Ellie Simmons has to
do in goal for Vermont. Obviously, playing against the Badger
team like this, you're going to be facing a million shots.
He's made some good says, but obviously hasn't able to
keep all of them out so far.
Speaker 4 (45:55):
Yeah, that's another thing with the power play goals too,
is that at a certain point as a goalie, you
can only do so, especially when you are facing a
Wisconsin team like this and they're coming up with fifty
shots every game on goal. You know, that's we saw that,
you know, last week with Minnesota Duluth, and it's probably
something we're going to see again this tournament.
Speaker 1 (46:13):
Now, I need to bring this up, Jake, and and
we are the home of all Wisconsin sports.
Speaker 2 (46:17):
Uh huh, so we must.
Speaker 1 (46:19):
Talk about the Milwaukee Brewers for just a quick second.
Obviously playing against the Dodgers. I'm a Dodger fan, you're
a Brewers fan. Big game tonight, Yes, yeah, let's just
say the women's hockey team has been a lot more
fun to watch these this past week. Here we're we're
we've lost a little bit of hope for the Brewers,
but you know, yeah, that's the thing with any sports,
(46:41):
you never know, you never know. So down three to zero,
we're looking to get one back.
Speaker 4 (46:46):
Just take it one game out of time, and you know,
we won four games against them in the regular season.
Speaker 1 (46:50):
We can we can do it again.
Speaker 8 (46:52):
There you go.
Speaker 1 (46:53):
It is much easier to be a fan of Badgerroommatacke
and it is to be a fan probably of any
team in the world. I would imagine obviously this team
six and oh trying to improve the seven and zer,
and then obviously tomorrow with the championship game, if the
Badgers can hang on and win this game. Jake, any
final thoughts before we go to break here about what
you saw or what we can expect or anything.
Speaker 4 (47:15):
I'm just looking forward to the rest of this tournament.
This new stadium is super nice, and the crowd's been
good and got a lot of fans, especially in the
Maggie Scandal section of the arena. So that's been great
so far, and I'm looking forward to the rest of
the tournament.
Speaker 1 (47:28):
All righty, Jake, thank you for joining us. We're gonna
take a quick break here on ten seventy the game
the Intermission Report brought to you by Fields Madison.
Speaker 2 (47:34):
We'll be right back.
Speaker 3 (47:42):
This is Wisconsin Women's Hockey presented by Oak Park Planks.
Speaker 1 (47:49):
And we welcome you back inside the M and T
Banks Center here in Schenectady, New York. This is the
Intermission Report, presented by Fields Madison, your premier Luxuriato roup,
serving CUSS since nineteen seventy one. Aiden Michael's here with
you from Schenectady. That's a hard one to say. It's
almost as hard as saying Shapo Valley Vova for the Badgers,
(48:10):
But I'm getting there. Paul Velucas went down downstairs attend
to his team. Of course, we want to thank him
for hopping on the call. It's not his normal job.
He is the strength coach for the Badgers, and he's
been nice enough to not leave me alone on the
broadcast and provide some color commentary for me in this
tournament for today and hopefully tomorrow. If the Badgers win
(48:32):
in Game one here of the Icebreaker Tournament, they will
play tomorrow in the championship game against either Union or
Saint Anselm. That game is going to be later on
this afternoon, so we're going to keep you guys updated
with that heading in to tomorrow. But yeah, we've got
an interview here with you, Maggie Scannal. I had a
chance to talk to Maggie Scannal after practice earlier on
(48:53):
Tuesday about returning to her home state playing in front
of some family and friends in this tournament. So we're
going to take a listen to that. Hi, everyone, welcome back.
To the intermission show. Aiden Michael's here on ten seventy
of the game. I'm joined by Maggie Scannel. Maggi, how
are you?
Speaker 2 (49:06):
I'm great?
Speaker 1 (49:07):
Thanks, how are you fantastic? So big series win against
Minnesota Duluth last weekend, getting the tight win in the
first game and then getting the shutout in the second.
What kind of messages that sending for the rest of
the league.
Speaker 9 (49:19):
Yeah, that was super exciting just having them come over
to the Lebon Arena. We have such great fans, such
a great atmosphere to play in, so both those games
were just so amazing. The rink had so much energy
in it and really helped us get the wins out there.
Speaker 1 (49:32):
And how did you feel after that first win, obviously
twenty seconds away from losing the game, then tying it up,
maybe we go to overtime, but then of course getting
the victory with eight seconds left After that game, was
it a sigh of relief? What was that feeling?
Speaker 9 (49:46):
I just have such great pride in our group and
we know that we can succeed in anything, so going
into each game, it's just the same message that we're
going to go out there and lead everything out there
and that's just what we did, especially that first game
or the end there, and also the second game, every
game the same.
Speaker 1 (50:01):
Now, tournament coming up this weekend, You're going back to
your home state. How's that going to be for you?
Speaker 9 (50:06):
I'm so excited. The old Union drink I grew up,
I learned how to skate there. So this is just
so exciting to be able to go back home. It's
a full circle moment for me, you know, just all
the support is. I'm just so grateful to be able
to play in front of so much family, friends, coaches,
everything back at home. Just so grateful for everything they've
done for me up until this moment, and being able
to play in front of them, it just feels so incredible.
Speaker 2 (50:27):
I'm so excited.
Speaker 1 (50:28):
And which family members are going to be joining you?
Speaker 9 (50:31):
I know that my immediate family, my brother Owen, younger
sister Zoe, mom and dad, and then also and uncle,
my cousin Hannah, Matt, my grandma.
Speaker 2 (50:40):
Maybe.
Speaker 9 (50:40):
I'm just so excited.
Speaker 2 (50:42):
I can't wait.
Speaker 1 (50:42):
That's amazing.
Speaker 2 (50:43):
All right, Thank you, good luck this weekend.
Speaker 1 (50:45):
Thank you so much. All Right. That was Maggie's scannal and,
as she said, a lot of her family members are
in attendance. They are right in front of us. They've
got signs with a lot of Scannel jerseys, a lot
of scannel shirts and hoodies in full support of Maggie's scanneal.
And of course usually we see that first line start
out for the Badgers sim Shapa, valle Vova and Eden,
(51:08):
but today it was something special. They started that second
line out Gorbatenko, Hall and Maggie's Scannal on that right side.
Both lines have been pretty incredible so far.
Speaker 2 (51:16):
In fact, every.
Speaker 1 (51:16):
Player for Wisconsin has been on top of their game.
Not many mistakes going for the Badgers, and honestly, Vermont
has been playing pretty well too. Obviously, it's tough to
say after giving up two goals on sixteen shots. Is
we've got a horn here in the background that's taken
over a lot of the audio. Here is Paula Lucas
(51:37):
is joining us again. And I don't know if there's
some difficulties going on right now, but there's ah. There
we go. That was the end of the horn that
was going for a while. But anyway, Badger's lead to
nothing after the first period, Potter and Eden with the goals,
and the Vermont was only five shots.
Speaker 2 (51:54):
They haven't had much.
Speaker 1 (51:54):
They had a couple of good chances, but the Badgers
have been dominant so far.
Speaker 2 (51:57):
Paul, Absolutely, it's it was a good period by the Badgers.
I think there's little things to work on from the
Badger's end. Obviously, you don't want to stick handles through
the neutral zone a smaller rink, so you want to
use your support systems to get out of your zone
and create opportunities. So I think that's something that the
Badgers will hope to work on this period. But overall,
a very good period by the Badgers, good opportunities by
(52:20):
Vermont creating the chances when they could. So I think
we'll see a good up and up and down period
coming up.
Speaker 1 (52:26):
We will see more to come. In a couple of minutes,
we're going to take a break. That was the conclusion
of our intermission report presented by Fields Madison. We'll be
right back for period number two in Schenectady, and we
are just in time for puck drop. Here in the
(52:48):
second period of Game one of the twenty twenty five
ice Breaker Tournament, Aiden Michaels Paul Lucas here with you
on ten to seventy the game Badgers lead to nothing.
As we begin period number two with the on the
penalty kill. I'm a Venusio in the box for a
rough late in the first period. Jungles clears it away
and Simmons behind the goal to pick it up. Pressuring
(53:10):
his Picard, Simmons nearly gave it away to Picard in
the corner. Brushu gets it free and up ahead to Hemp.
Hemp cross ice pass now to Kokovec, who sends that
one down over the stick of McNaughton, picked up by
Harvey in the corner of her own zone. Jungles sends
that one around but can't clear at the point that
(53:32):
one deflects wide, comes free now for O'Hara. O'Hara at
the point to Zarconi to O'Hara now makes a move
around Harvey, spinning away from her, getting it to the
point to Zarconi, slides that one across, take a shot
up Hi think it took a deflection off a Scota
there and the zone still not clear to now cleared
(53:54):
as Picard gets sent to the ice there by Zarconi.
Minusio getting ready to come out out of the box
and there she goes straight onto the bench and on
comes Kirsten Simms, Badger's back at full strength. Shapavalle Vova
picks it up in her own zone, finds Jungles and
received by Sims. Simms try to get it to Eden.
(54:17):
It falls free for Eden. Now Eden down low a
shop of valley. Vova behind the net, centering pass looking
for Sims, and it's saved by Simmons.
Speaker 2 (54:26):
Oh what a setup by Adella. There just a tiny
little tapping opportunity by uh Sims there right on the doorstep.
Speaker 1 (54:34):
And another point blank opportunity shut down by Simmons in
goal here Sims, though Sims wide of the goal, makes enough.
Couple of nice moves there. Eden in the corner. Eden
behind the net, still with it being pestered by a
couple of catamounts. Jones right point slides it across the
Potter now to Sims. Simms spinning away from Lewis shot
(54:58):
from the point turned away by Simmons. Eden drops it
off for Jones. Jones it comes free, Retrom clears it away,
gets it up ahead to George, but just out of
her reach. Potter picks it up for the Badgers right
back in the zone. Now is Sims for Wisconsin. Simms
spins away, sliding past one, two three, Oh my goodness,
(55:19):
on the doorstep for Shapa Valleevova and she missed the net.
Speaker 2 (55:22):
Oh what an opportunity. Great set up there by Eden
and here we come going again. Yeah wow, this line
does not quit.
Speaker 1 (55:30):
But what a chance there for shop of Vallevova a
tic tac toe and just missed it.
Speaker 2 (55:37):
This line has been playing so well together, and I
think they're only going to get better as the year
goes on. They're just kind of starting to figure each
other out, find those opportunities.
Speaker 1 (55:46):
Scota had a shot on goal turned away by McNaughton.
Scannal knows that one along gets it right back. Scanne
behind the neck, still with it, and then it's given away.
Kokovec tries to get it out of the corner, picked
up by Hall for the Badgers in the corner. Now
is Glbtenko centering pass took a deflection and the Badgers
(56:07):
lose possession. Here come the cattlemounts the other way. It's
Lloyd how Murphy makes a nice play. A couple of
cattamounts go for a change. Here's Murphy behind the net
and finds Venusio in space.
Speaker 2 (56:22):
Good job by Venusio, slowing it down a little bit,
try and get a change.
Speaker 1 (56:27):
And Ice is the buck. Unfortunately right right on cue, Yeah,
right on cue. Venusio tried to find the stick of
Gorbutenko just skipped Buyer to the Catamounts go for a change.
The Badgers cannot as a face off will come to
the right of Ava McNaughton, Brochu and Hall taking the
draw respectively. Catamounts win the draw right off the draw,
(56:50):
blocker it away by McNaughton. The shot there from Havana
Scota finds Zarconi. Scota into the corner looking for Havana Brocho.
Scuda tried to handle it, couldn't do it. A shot
there from Scota again it's saved by McNaughton. Backhand or
there from Scota right in front of the net. McNaughton
was able to cover and now the Badgers can go
(57:12):
for a change.
Speaker 2 (57:13):
Really good job by McNaughton holding her position, not letting
the Catamounts create any really great opportunities there on the doorstep.
Really sound goalie play by McNaughton.
Speaker 1 (57:24):
There, Catamounts right off the draw, win it right back
Brosho behind the net off the referee and it gets
by van Zaris. Tough break there for the Catamounts. As
they turn it over in the corner, Peekin Hogin drops
it off nicely for Zilla's centering class. Here's McCarthy now
can't get a handle on it. Harvey keeps it in,
(57:46):
shovels it to the corner for Zillis, who sends it
around a peek and Hogin in the opposite corner goes
over the stick of McCarthy, but it's kept in for
the moment. Jungles trying to keep it out. Now it's
a one on one here moving on in his Havanna Havana.
Nice play there from Hay though Havana stays with it
behind the net. Zilish picks it up in the badger zone,
shovels it up but not out. Zilish again trying to
(58:08):
get it away Dan Zaris a centering pass doesn't get
all the way through, and then the zone is cleared
by Pekin, Hoggen George now looking to take it right
back in for the Catamounts. They look alive right now.
Jungles still can't clear the zone for the Badger picked
up by McCarthy. Now at the point for the catamounts.
It's George slides it across to Lewis, Now to George
(58:33):
dan Zaris down low, retrom behind the net, picked up
there by O'Hara pressuring is Harvey. O'Hara back behind the
net for retrom. Retrom still with it turning away from
jungle centering pass gets under the stick of O'Hara. Badger
still can't clear Zillish poking at it. Badger's look tired.
(58:54):
McCarthy gets it up to Zilish, but it skips by
her stick and then Zilish able to find finally get
out of the zone and go for a change, but
not all the Badgers can. Here comes Lewis as shot
over the goal, took a deflection off the stick of
Pekin hoggin Ohara in the corner to him hem down low,
(59:15):
Here's retrom into the corner.
Speaker 2 (59:17):
Gave it away and it.
Speaker 1 (59:18):
Goes the length of the ice and finally the Badgers
can go for a change.
Speaker 2 (59:21):
Man. That was a very good series by Vermont, keeping
the Badgers in their own zone, able to create a
couple of really good opportunities and keep a very tired
uh Forard line out there for a long time. It
was a very good job by Vermont. So Badger's good
job getting the getting the puck out of the zone,
getting the change.
Speaker 1 (59:38):
Yeah, it's the best the Catamounts have looked all game long.
I mean, they had many chances even when Zillis was
able to get the puck out of the zone, only
she was able to change. Everyone else had to stay on.
The Catamounts brought it right back in, had a couple
of good chances. But like you said, Badgers did a
great job to keep that puck away.
Speaker 2 (59:54):
Yep. I think that's gonna be what you'll see a
lot today with this smaller rink. You know, if Vermont can,
you know, keep those that fucking the zone, that'll work
to their advantage as best they can.
Speaker 1 (01:00:05):
Potter now off the draw, skating it out of the
zone for the Badgers up ahead, looking for Sims icing.
Sims did not get there. It was a Padine that
got there first on the opposite side as Sims. Sims
beat her player, but didn't beat Podine. So another icing
against the Badgers, another face off in the Badger's zone.
Speaker 2 (01:00:26):
Yep, thirteen forty.
Speaker 1 (01:00:29):
Five to go here in the second period, Badgers lead
to nothing. Vermont wins the draw. Oh shoud block by
eating she felt that one? Yeah, right again Havana. A
couple of good looks there for Una Havana the Finn
for Vermont. Havannah again in the corner. Podine left point
(01:00:49):
sends that one down behind the goal. It took a
weird bounce centering past now over the stick of Havana
under the stick. Rather, excuse me, Kkovec chasing to the
corner of peaking Hagen trying to get it out. Jones
up to pekin Hogen. Well that's potter. Excuse me, here's
Sims now to eat it on the right side, off side.
(01:01:12):
Badger's struggling with their zone entries, icing the bucket a
couple of times, to getting caught off side. Vermont with
a couple of good looks on goal again.
Speaker 2 (01:01:20):
Yeah, a couple of mental mistakes by the Badgers. I
think you'll see coach Johnson talk to the team right now.
I'm sure about just cleaning that stuff up, because if
you give a team that many opportunities, they will eventually
make you pay.
Speaker 1 (01:01:32):
Five shots on goal in the first period alone for Vermont,
They've already got four now is just seven minutes into
this second period, So already a much better period here
in the second to Vermont compared to the first period
where they didn't really have much to show for. Here's
Murphy now taking it from her own zone to Venusio.
Boocard wants it. Bookard gets it on that left side,
(01:01:56):
but it's taken away and a penalty coming up, a
cross check against I didn't see, Paul, did you say?
I didn't behind the play a bit.
Speaker 2 (01:02:05):
It looks like, oh, but Vajarski going to the box
for Vermont.
Speaker 1 (01:02:09):
So Picard not happy with the referee, but he did
get the call cross checking. Is the penalty going against Vermont.
The Badgers will head to get another power play, and
now perhaps this is the chance for the Badgers to
get things going again.
Speaker 2 (01:02:22):
Yeah, no, I think this is a good opportunity for him.
Looks like it looks like Murphy got cross checked. Murphy, yeah, right,
is away from the play. Honestly, wow, looks for the
recently play.
Speaker 1 (01:02:32):
So Murphy draws yet another penalty. Badger's going to power
play again. Behind in that now is Potter. Potter to
the point to Harvey. Harvey slides it across to Sims.
Sim's right circle skates into the corner. Sim's going all
the way behind the net, comes free for Podine. O'Hara
picks it up and clears the zone. McNaughton behind the
(01:02:56):
goal to settle it for Harvey. Harvey set up that
first power play goal for the Badgers. See what you
can do here. Sims at center, ice up ahead to
shape of valley Vova across to Eden. Eden left circle
goes to the point to Potter. Here's Harvey at the point,
slides it across the Sims back to Harvey up the middle,
takes a shot wide of the goal, picked up behind
(01:03:18):
the net now by Potter. She lost at the hemp.
Badger's desperately trying to get this puck back, and they do.
Harvey at the left point. Harvey skating to the circle,
drops it off for Potter at the point across the
Sims right circle. Download a shape of Valley Vova back
to Sims. Sims rips a shot blocked by the stick.
The rebound by Potter blocked in front by Eden.
Speaker 2 (01:03:40):
A third time they score.
Speaker 1 (01:03:43):
Nice job on the power play the Badgers. With a
third Caroline Harvey gets the goal.
Speaker 2 (01:03:50):
Really good job there by the Badgers. You saw Vermont
that first series kind of batting down the hatches, not
giving up a lot of passing lanes. So Badgers opened
it up as much as they could, created space because
that's going to favor the offense. And then you start
to see some more opportunities, more shots on net, and
Caroline Harvey gets rewarded and the back end.
Speaker 1 (01:04:11):
And Caroline Harvey, who had goals in her last three games,
continues that streak, her fourth of the season and in
as many games, And just like that, the Badgers are
up three to nothing with yet another power play goal.
We'll see how Vermont can respond. They have the puck
in the Badger zone, skips over the stick there of
Scota wins it right back though Scota to the point,
(01:04:35):
slides it across the podine and back to Kokovec, who
lost it for a moment, brought down by the glove
of Jungles, tries to get it clear, can't quite do it.
Here's Havanah lost it out to Haul and here come
the Badgers on the counter attack the other way. Haul
moving in on the right side, rips the shot wide
of the goal, kept in by the skate of Jungles,
but then Scota got it out with the stick.
Speaker 2 (01:04:59):
Really good job by Hall there, created an opportunity right
down center of the ice.
Speaker 1 (01:05:03):
Here's another chance for the Badgers.
Speaker 2 (01:05:04):
He's a score.
Speaker 1 (01:05:07):
Lucky bounced for Cassie Hall, but she slots at home
for the Badger's fourth goal here in the second period
for nothing, Wisconsin.
Speaker 2 (01:05:15):
Wow. Looks like she banked it off the back of
Vermont's goalie skate. That was incredible. Two very excellent individual
efforts by Cassie Hall to create a goal there.
Speaker 1 (01:05:27):
And within seconds the Badgers have added two goals. Paul
tried the centering pass, it looked like it went off
of Kokovec tried the second time, went off the skate
of Simmons, like you said, had a couple of deflections.
But she'll take a goal. Doesn't matter how you score him, No,
not at.
Speaker 2 (01:05:42):
All, as long as he score doesn't much matter.
Speaker 1 (01:05:44):
How That is goal number seven of the season for
Cassie Hall, who's been incredible on that second line so
far for the Badgers. Venusio a slapper up high on Simmons.
Puck is loose, Halberson picks it up. Badger's looking for
a third goal, but it goes behind the stake of Murphy,
and here come the catamount the other way. Lloyd shot
(01:06:04):
saved by McNaughton up high. Good counter attacking chance there
from Vermont, and there are no breaks in this game.
Here come the Badgers again, the card on that right side,
skating to the corner. Nice defensive play by Hemp, picked
up by Halverson for the Badgers in the corner, gets
taken down. Hemp picks it up for Vermont, slides it
(01:06:28):
across now, so Matson, who can skate it out of
the zones, gives it right away, though Hemp wins it
back in the neutral zone for Vermont. Pestering her is Halverson.
Here's Lewis now, penalty coming up against Halverson for a hole.
Lewis to the net, behind the net, still with it
(01:06:51):
and out of the point. Extra skater out for the Catamounts.
Down low looking for O'Hara. Another push in the back
there from how Elverson. She's going to the box. I
think she just had a hold there.
Speaker 2 (01:07:03):
Yeah, No, she was doing a good job initially just
creating pressure on him, but I think just a little
bit too much extracurricular work there led to the penalty.
So after the.
Speaker 1 (01:07:13):
Badgers were able to capitalize on the power play and
then add one right after Vermont will go on their
second power play of the day. We're going to take
a quick break here on ten seventy of the game.
Don't go anywhere when we come back, power play for Vermont,
and we welcome you back inside the m ANDZ Bank.
Speaker 2 (01:07:36):
Center in s Connectady, New York. Agent Michael's Paul V.
Lucas here with you.
Speaker 1 (01:07:39):
Badgers adding a couple of twick goals in the second period,
they lead for nothing, and now they have to go
on the penalty kill once again.
Speaker 2 (01:07:47):
Yeah, I mean, obviously really good momentum there for the
Badgers initially, you know, you don't want to take penalties,
especially when you're starting to kind of heat up on
the shots on goal. Good opportunity here for Vermont, see
if it can and you know, stop the bleed, so
to speak, and create some good chances on their end.
I'd like to see some good pressure by the Badgers
trying to kill off this penalty, you know, quickly, and
(01:08:09):
see what they can do from there.
Speaker 1 (01:08:11):
So face off now to the left of Ava McNaughton,
who's skating back to hert Creese see what the Badgers
can do on the penalty kill. The best chance of
the last Vermont power play was a chance in fact
for the Badgers, So we'll see what happens here. Pace
off won by the Catamounts. Dan Zeris, Zarconi, dan Zaris
(01:08:33):
Sarconi again at the point O'Hara left circle, Zarcony Dean
Zaris slides it across to O'Hara. Still it's those three,
you're playing catch with each other. O'Hara decides to go
down low now Lewis because Zarconi rips the shot. Save
may by McNaughton.
Speaker 2 (01:08:50):
Really good job by McNaughton, knowing where the puck is,
holding their lines and not letting that. You know, no
rebounds getting created from that shot.
Speaker 1 (01:09:00):
Absolutely, and it was just three Catamounts at the point,
just playing cats with each other, trying to find a slot.
They finally did, were able to get it on goal,
but McNaughton equal to the task to make the save.
Face off now to the right of Ava mcnonton. This
time it's won by the Badgers. Caroline Harvey, fresh off
the bench, picks it up, goes to the corner and
then lifts it all the way down into the catamount zone.
(01:09:24):
Dean Zeris to O'Hara, pestered there by Enwright at center
is it's dan Zeris picking it up for the Catamounts,
retrom standing the line, and then it's turned over the
card well, colliding there with Hemp. Perhaps it looked like
(01:09:47):
it was gonna be a penalty. I think they're just
I'm not sure what they called there, hand pass.
Speaker 2 (01:09:54):
Don't know. Don't look like there's a penalty on the plane,
So all right, must be a bench something like that.
Speaker 1 (01:10:00):
Something like that either way, face off its center ice.
Now Brochoue taking it and Haul taking it.
Speaker 2 (01:10:09):
Really good pressure there by Picard and Enright to create
some opportunity to get the puck out of the zone
and pester the UH Vermont power play a little bit.
Speaker 1 (01:10:19):
About a minute and change remaining on the player advantage
for Vermont. Brochu taking it in the zone on the
left side, drops it off for Havana. Havana stops up
in the corner, finds Brochu at the point now is
Hemp sends that one across the skota. Here's Hemp now
left circle. Brochu sends it down low off the skate
(01:10:40):
there of Havana out in front. Scannel picks it up
and clears the zone.
Speaker 2 (01:10:46):
Nice play by Scannal to just turn and fire the
puck back down. Kill off a little bit more time
on this Vermont power play.
Speaker 1 (01:10:53):
Here's the re entry from Hemp for Vermont, shovels that
one down behind the goal and the Vermont Catamounts keep
it in. No, they cannot nearly gave it away at
center ice. Nice bounced though for Vermont. Here's Scota up
the middle to drag therefrom Skota still keeps it. Murphy
(01:11:13):
makes a nice play saving her defense partner picked up
by Sims, skates it out of the.
Speaker 2 (01:11:22):
Zone Inton center ice.
Speaker 1 (01:11:24):
Here's Sims now makes a nice move still Sims and
that will kill the penalty off.
Speaker 2 (01:11:30):
For the Badgers whole nice play by Adella to keep
the puck in the zone. Turned over, she sends it
to the middle.
Speaker 1 (01:11:36):
Chance now here's Chapa Belli Vova can't settle it. Potter
left point takes a shot up high on Simmons. Would
have been nice for Adella to finish off that play.
Speaker 2 (01:11:48):
Though she's had a couple really good opportunities. I'm sure
she's gonna find the back of the net. By the
end of the day because she has had some great
a opportunities on the doorstep today.
Speaker 1 (01:11:58):
Three goals this season. She had a pretty imp game
in that second game of the Minnesota DA lou series,
scoring go drawing that five minute major, of course, taking
a hard one into the boards, but she's able to
get up and score. Badgers have it right off the draw.
Potter gets it along to Chappo Vallevova. Here she is
now on the left circle, still with it, gets it
(01:12:20):
to the corner to Eden. Eden trying to poke it
along to Chapo Vallevova Sims. Here's Adela now Sims in
the corner, trying to go to the net.
Speaker 2 (01:12:33):
Couldn't find it.
Speaker 1 (01:12:35):
Eden behind the net, centering passed nobody there in white.
Speaker 2 (01:12:37):
Chappo Valivova wins the puck.
Speaker 1 (01:12:39):
Back for the Badgers. Eden taken away there by mess played,
makes a nice move around. Sims gets it up ahead.
Vermont clears the zone. Here's Potter over the Badgers right
back in on the right side. Potter skates behind the net,
tries the wrap around shot save rebound is loose. Shop
(01:13:00):
Valivova gets pushed into the crossbar. Pamp goes to fetch
her stick. It looks like when Potter was going to
the net, pamp stick went flying.
Speaker 2 (01:13:07):
Yeah, Potter did a great job there, just driving the
net incredibly hard, puts the puck on her back hand
and just creates a great opportunity. Skates right through hemp stick,
creat an opportunity there for the Badgers.
Speaker 1 (01:13:19):
Good job getting it on net there, creating a rebound
and ultimately a draw in the zone. A shot off
the skate there of Lewis. Here's retrom across the Zarconi
still in the Vermont zone, Dean Zaris stretch ice passed,
gave it away. Here's McCarthy bringing it back in for
(01:13:40):
the Badgers. Makes a nice move on the left side.
Here's McCarthy centering past a peeking Hoggin.
Speaker 2 (01:13:46):
We got no way. I thought that went in, Paul pretty.
I don't know. They might have to challenge that one.
It looked like the puck went in her foot was
behind the line, you know, and when you've got picking
hog and drive in the net, there's some force behind
that shot. So I might have to review that one.
Speaker 1 (01:14:05):
It looks like they're well, it's interesting because the whistle
win even though the puck was free. Obviously that happens.
But from our angle here, I thought I saw the
puck cross the line.
Speaker 2 (01:14:16):
Let's let's see this because it looked pretty close right there.
That's it. That's gotta be it.
Speaker 1 (01:14:24):
Surely, surely, if things go right, that's a second goal
the season for peaking Hoggin, second career scored in her
first career game. I'm not sure that's gonna take a
lot of time to review here. I mean, they got
better angles than us, and we saw in the game
can and.
Speaker 2 (01:14:42):
We can see it from here where we're standing. Really
good job by Harvey to just tap it to McCarthy.
McCarthy drives the net and creates that opportunity for picking hogging.
So if it stands as if it ends up being
a goal, great job by the Badgers.
Speaker 1 (01:14:58):
Absolutely, and it seemed like speaking hog and knew it
went in. She was gonna go to the bench and
give her high five, sort of. Teammates couldn't technically do that,
because you know, calling the ice is no goal. Here's
another angle that we're gonna see on the boards or
on the main board here. I can't see from there,
but but trust me, folks at home, the angle that
Paul and I saw you can clearly see that that
(01:15:20):
cross the line. We've seen a lot of lengthy reviews
this season. This shouldn't be too long, but they got
to make sure they get it right.
Speaker 2 (01:15:30):
This is yeah. I don't think my eyes deceived me
on the on the live or on the replay. So
we'll have to see what the ref see. But from
our angle, like you said, it does look like a goal.
Really good opportunity by Finn McCarthy, just driving the right
side of the net, drawn the goalie offer the opper
post say no goal, No goals. Okay, wow, we stand corrected.
(01:15:58):
I guess we're not as smart as we think. I
guess not.
Speaker 1 (01:16:01):
Huh uh.
Speaker 2 (01:16:04):
I'm gonna be honest.
Speaker 1 (01:16:05):
I maybe I don't even know what to say, Paul,
to be honest with you, I gotta I gotta call
my eye doctor.
Speaker 2 (01:16:11):
You know I might be able to yearly check up.
Speaker 1 (01:16:14):
Well, all right, the call on the ice stands no goal,
So the score remains for nothing and we play again.
Speaker 2 (01:16:24):
Jungles it gives by.
Speaker 1 (01:16:25):
Her chasing it as lewis in the zone, getting it
toward goal, taken away by Venusio. Now peakan Hoggin's gonna
want to He's gonna want to get another one here,
one hundred percent.
Speaker 2 (01:16:34):
If I'm sure she's gonna keep shooting the fuck if
she gets the opportunity today. So let's see if she
can get that second goal of the career.
Speaker 1 (01:16:43):
And in her head, second goal of the games. Yeah,
right here she is now gets it up ahead. It's
a zillius here she is. Here's Peakin Hoggins moving on
in Pekin Hogen lost possession of the puck.
Speaker 2 (01:16:55):
She gets it right back though.
Speaker 1 (01:16:57):
Venusio in the corner, goes behind the net, brought down
by Pegan Hoggin high stick. Oh, I don't know about that.
She's not really catching.
Speaker 2 (01:17:06):
Any breaks here though, She's really not.
Speaker 1 (01:17:10):
And now she goes to the bench. Badgers go for
a change, gets that goal disallowed or I guess it
was never a goal to begin with, and then gets
called for an interesting high stick but face off outside
the zone. Now Badgers have the Picard line out and
it's won by the Badgers. Picked up by Halverson, spins
away from Havana. Halverson on the right side, rips the
(01:17:32):
shot into the glove of Simmons and covered five h
three to go here in the second period, four nothing,
Badgers just ten shots for Vermont twenty six four Wisconsin
face off to the left of Ellie Simmons won by Picard,
off the face off his and ride a shot toppled
(01:17:53):
up again by Simmons.
Speaker 2 (01:17:55):
Great couple wins by Picard and then face off dots
so far. I mean those things up, they create great
opportunities for your team, and they you know, they're the
small wins that can lead to big ones over the
course of a season.
Speaker 1 (01:18:08):
And right still searching for her first goal of the season,
obviously had that injury a couple of years ago. Scored
her first goal in six hundred and two days at
home against Boston College. It was a big goal for her.
Almost got on the score sheet again. Here's Jones from
the point why to the goal. Murphy picks it up
in the corner and right try to get it back
to the point. Couldn't do it. Picked up now by
(01:18:32):
George and cleared away to center ice. Jones shovels out
one along, but Card helps out to get it back
to Jones. Jones at her own blue line, sends it
up ahead, picked up by Havana, gets it to Hemp.
Here comes Scott now Scott moving on in Murphy makes
a nice play, comes free for Jones to slide it across.
Badger's trying to clear the zone. It's Halverson to the corner.
(01:18:55):
Is Murphy still can't get it free. Catamounts pick it
up and then it's turned over. Picard can finally skate
it out of his zone. Here it comes Picard now
Pocard moving on and drops it back off for Murphy
in a save by Simmons. A good look there from
the Badgers on the counter attached.
Speaker 2 (01:19:13):
Absolutely excellent play by this third line, that Picard, Enright
and Halverson line, creating the energy, creating opportunities. I mean
that line is really going to be the engine for
the team as this season continues.
Speaker 1 (01:19:26):
Second line out for the Badgers, Hall loses the draw
it to a mess played kept in by Bickett. Nicely
done from Grace Pickett. Here's Gorbatenko fans on the shot
second time, slides it across.
Speaker 2 (01:19:36):
What a stop by Simmons.
Speaker 1 (01:19:38):
What a setup there, Gorbotenko fanning on the shot and
then sliding it across. But then a great save.
Speaker 2 (01:19:43):
Yeah no, I mean this a great job. A great
job by Gorpatanko to drive the net settles the puck
and gets a good opportunity to Cassie Hall. Let's see
if she can find it back in the net again.
Speaker 1 (01:19:56):
This time Cassie Hall wins the draw. Scannal, nice move
to get around mess played still with it goorbatenco centering pass.
Now it's called for bick At a shot blocked and
it goes by and hits the pad of Simmons. Here's
Hal again, haul on the right side, centering pass. Scannal
drops it off looking for Gorbutenko, couldn't find her, Potter
(01:20:18):
keeping it in for the Badgers. Potter gave it away.
Potter trying to get it right back and she does
keeps it in. Here's Gorbutenko. Now, Kelly Gorbitenko rips a shot,
save rebound, It's hole scores and there's the goal you
were talking about. Holy Moly, and the Badgers get another one.
Speaker 2 (01:20:39):
Cassie Hall justin another excellent goal by her, finds the
rebound and back hands it in for her second of
the day. Holy Moly.
Speaker 1 (01:20:51):
Seventh of the season for Cassie Hall, and now we
are officially on hat trick watch here in the second
period for Cassie Hall, and great play from Paw to
keep that puck in.
Speaker 2 (01:21:01):
Yeah, one hundred percent. I mean, lady Potter has been
excellent this entire year, but incredibly strong on her stick,
incredibly strong on the puck this this afternoon, So really
great job on her part.
Speaker 1 (01:21:12):
Badgers now have five. Eden wants some more for the
Badgers and a whistle there. The puck trickles up and
into the bench. I think I think so, I think so,
and we'll get a whistle on a face off outside
the catamount zone. Three point thirteen to go here in
the second period, Badgers lead five to nothing, five goals
(01:21:33):
on thirty shots, no goals on ten for Vermont. Shapovalivova
wins the draw. Jungles now takes it in on the
right side, sends that one around. Sims gets there before Cocovec.
Cocovec pokes it free from Sims. Sims gets it right back,
though Chapa Valivova makes a nice move to find Eden
(01:21:54):
in the corner, centering pass for Shapavalivova to Sims, but
all the catamounts are there to stop that from happening.
Stella Retrom skates it out, Jungles at center ice gets
it to Sims, sends that one down, Eden picks it
up in the corner.
Speaker 2 (01:22:11):
Eden stops up. Nice move.
Speaker 1 (01:22:14):
Still in the corner is lazy. Eden behind the goal
finds Adella to the point. Now is Harvey.
Speaker 2 (01:22:21):
Harvey makes a move to the left side.
Speaker 1 (01:22:23):
Harvey still with it, centering pass goes all the way
through and there's Harvey again with it on the other side,
this time to the point to Simms. Sims makes a move,
takes a shot, turned away, the rebound loose, Jungles can't
corral it. Badger's still with the puck. Sims to the
point to Harvey again. Harvey rips a shot deflected in front,
(01:22:44):
save made, rebound loose again and then it's taken away
by Retrom and finally the Catamounts can clear.
Speaker 2 (01:22:52):
Series the Badger's great opportunities. I thought we were going
to see our sixth goal of the afternoon.
Speaker 1 (01:22:57):
It certainly looked like it done yet with this line,
here's Harvey again on the right side. That's how Dractice
put her off the side. Sims not happy with it,
but that's such an end of their shift. Yeah, so close,
just had it, and that line will take a seat
after an impressive shift, and it brings on the fourth
(01:23:21):
line again for Wisconsin.
Speaker 2 (01:23:24):
Let's see if picking Hoggin can find the back of
the net.
Speaker 1 (01:23:27):
She wants one. She was robbed of a goal, See
if she can get her second career. Mess Pled picks
it up at center ice for Vermont, entering the zone
on the right side, dump and chase there. Venusio gets
there first, kept in by George Zillis trying to take
it away. It's taken away by Murphy. Murphy up ahead
(01:23:50):
to McCarthy, pestered there by. Havana switches the ice, gets
at Zillus, who sends it down chasing it is peeking
Hogging simm first. Good pressure there from Peak and Hagen.
McCarthy with the right circle the fans on the pass
second time gets it to Venusio, rips a shot in
front say there by Simmons rebound clear it up but
(01:24:14):
not out. Final minute here in the second period him
picks it up in the corner of her own zone,
shovels it down low, gets it to McCarthy though for
the Badgers, off the skate of Murphy download for Peakin.
Hagen gives it away to mess Pled, and it's trickled
out into the neutral zone by Scott oh going down
(01:24:36):
hard there was Picard gave it away to George. George
at center ice and right picks it back up, lost
the puck for a moment and it trickles out for
George again. The final twenty seconds now of the second period,
Halverson picks it up for the Badgers in her own zone. Alverson,
(01:24:56):
not in any rush here, spins away nearly gave it away,
still with it somehow and then turned it over. Lewis
makes a nice move.
Speaker 2 (01:25:05):
Lewis a shot.
Speaker 1 (01:25:06):
Say by McNaughton with three point eight to go in
the second Holy, Holy.
Speaker 2 (01:25:10):
A great opportunity there by Vermont taking advantage of a
loose pucking the neutral zone to create maybe their best
opportunity in the last few minutes.
Speaker 1 (01:25:18):
Absolutely big chance there for Vermont trying to get on
the score sheet for just a few seconds left in
this second period. Not able to do so, but there
is a face off here now in the Badger zone
with three point eight to go. Ohara trying to win
the drag. Get one more chance for Vermont and scrum
there inside the hash marks, and that'll do it for
(01:25:40):
period number two. Thirty three shots so far in the
game for the Badgers. Just eleven for Vermont, no goals
for the Catamounts, five for the Badgers and Paul what
an impressive period for Wisconsin.
Speaker 2 (01:25:51):
Yeah, you know, I think that period in general actually
was more impressive than the first because it seemed like
the Badger's doing a better job, you know, doing the
little things right, you know, making the right passes, not
trying to stick handle through the neutral zone. Because Vermont's good,
they know how to batten down the hatches. They you know,
they can take away your passing lane. So Badgers did
(01:26:12):
a nice job finding the open player, creating space and
then getting rewarded for it. So a nice period by
the Badger's there.
Speaker 1 (01:26:20):
Yeah, and how funny is this They got to wait
for the entire Vermont team to go into the locker
room before they head on.
Speaker 2 (01:26:26):
Yeah, it's a little bit strange. Obviously a brand new
rink and it's a beautiful rink, but I would say
just one oddity there, you know, everyone having to go
through the same door to get on and off the
ice creates a little bit of a traffic jam. But
you know, I guess that's one of the things that
just kind of happens every now and again.
Speaker 1 (01:26:43):
It's a good thing it hasn't been a super aggressive
game between the two or else that would have been
it would have been an awkward yes moment there.
Speaker 2 (01:26:50):
Percent I'm glad that we're not playing a Minnesota in
Ohio State or a Duluthe. I think that would cause
a fair amount of issues having to go through the
same door. Exactly.
Speaker 1 (01:26:59):
Well, we'll be back for the intermission report here in
ten seventy games that don't go anywhere, Aiden, Michaels Paul
Lucas five nothing Badgers after two. We'll be right back,
and we welcome you to the intermission report, brought to
you by a Field Madison.
Speaker 2 (01:27:17):
Aiden.
Speaker 1 (01:27:17):
Michael's here with you. The Badgers with yet another dominant
period so far after two they lead the Catamounts of
Vermont five nothing.
Speaker 2 (01:27:25):
We're going to take a.
Speaker 1 (01:27:25):
Listen to an interview with Matt Lafleur and Larry McCarron
ahead of this Sunday's matchup for the Packers against the Cardinals.
Here in ten seventy game this is drive Time.
Speaker 7 (01:27:34):
Take a listen, Welcome to Drive Time of coach Matt
Before I am Larry McCarran and Matt. You are into
a thirteen game, big push. And I suppose when you're
looking at something like that, your mantra of going one
to zero every week has never been more important.
Speaker 10 (01:27:54):
Correct, Yeah, I would say so. It's a long journey
ahead of us, and certainly it feels good to come
off a win, and now we need to start stacking
these and you only do that by winning each day
at a time and having a good week of preparation.
Speaker 7 (01:28:07):
Matt after the game Sunday, I bet a half dozen
guys in the locker room talked about going one in
zero every week. Your message is getting through and that's
a good thing.
Speaker 2 (01:28:20):
Right Yeah, I think so.
Speaker 10 (01:28:22):
Anytime the guys are saying that, then means they're focused
on what's right in front of them, and there's nothing
more important than that.
Speaker 7 (01:28:28):
Right now, let's talk about some offense. You've had four
hundred plus yards in three the last four games, your
top ten in yards overall, top ten in scoring. Your
quarterback has a career best QB rating of one hundred
and ten, plus, your running game is coming around, and
(01:28:49):
yet when you're asked about it, you always start out, yeah,
but what's the butt right now?
Speaker 10 (01:28:57):
Well, until we're scoring on every drive, there's going to
be something to work on, and certainly we didn't maximize
every situation in the past game. You're only as good
as your last game. But I think our offense is
starting to do some good things and we just got
to continue to push. And we've got a great challenge
in front of us with the Arizona Cardinals defense. I
think it's a defense as extremely underrated. They're a lot
(01:29:17):
different group than we played a year ago. They're much
more stout up front. I think they have a better
idea of what they're doing. In the back end, they
challenge everything and present a lot of problems to offenses.
Speaker 7 (01:29:28):
Well, let's talk about your defense for a moment. Your
top five in yards, number one against the rush, top
ten in points allowed, and yet there's been a pattern
of starting out better than you finish. You said you
were taking a look at that. Did you find anything out.
Speaker 10 (01:29:45):
Now, It's just it's more internally kind of the things
that we discussed in terms of things that we might
be able to do. The bottom line is when it
comes to the fourth quarter, that's when we need to
play our best ball, and we haven't done that to date.
Speaker 7 (01:29:59):
You're listening to drive time with coach Matt Lafleur. Okay,
this week you travel to Arizona and the Cardinals have
lost four straight. But I'm done looking at stuff like that,
because every team has some good players who can play
real well on any given Sunday. And like those four losses,
weren't they buy a total of nine points?
Speaker 10 (01:30:21):
Yeah, it's pretty incredible. I mean, the margins are small
in this league. We know that, and they lost to
some pretty good teams right at the buzzer, so we
know that it's gonna be a great challenge. We're gonna
have to play our best ball. You mentioned they've got
a lot of really really good players over there. Trey
McBride's one of the best tight ends in the league.
I mean, obviously Marvin Harrison's a baller. And then I
(01:30:42):
think both quarterbacks have done a great job for them,
Kyler Murray and Jacoby Brissett. So offensively, they got talent
Buddha Baker. On the other side, they got sweat. They've
had a lot of pieces up front. So this is
a really good football team.
Speaker 7 (01:30:56):
What's the plan for Brandon McManus and the newest Packer,
Led Lucas have hersick this week? If Lucas has another
game like his last, his name will be on the
fence across the street.
Speaker 10 (01:31:08):
Yeah, he's been a great addition to us obviously. You
know McManus has done it for a long time at
a very high level. And we'll just let it play
out throughout the course of the week. We feel confident
that if we need to turn to Lucas that he's
going to get the job done, and if Brandon's feeling better,
then he'll go.
Speaker 7 (01:31:26):
What about Christian Watson if he's not the fastest guy
on the team right now, he's close? Is he getting
close to playing?
Speaker 10 (01:31:34):
I think he's getting closer. So we'll give him the
week and we'll see where we're at heading end to Sunday.
Speaker 7 (01:31:40):
Thank you, Matt, best of luck in Arizona and folks.
I'll leave you with a factoid that Matt does not
want to talk about, but the Packers currently lead the
NFC North and if the playoffs were held today, they'd
be the number two seed. Go pack go in. That's
Drive Time with coach Matt Lafleur. Thank you for listening.
Speaker 1 (01:32:01):
Alrighty, that was Drive Time. You can tune in to
thirteen to ten WIBA This Sunday is the Packers take
on the Cardinals at State Farms Stadium. Packers three to
one and one, the Cardinals are two and four. Packers
lost the last matchup against the Cardinals. They haven't lost
back to back games against Arizona since twenty sixteen, so
that they're looking to avoid that stat Refresh that'll be
three twenty five pm Central Time again. On thirteen ten,
(01:32:24):
Wiba I made Michaels. You're listening to the Badger women
Hockey Intermission report presented by Fields Madison, your premier luxuryauto
group serving customers since nineteen seventy one. If you're just
joining us. The Badgers lead after two periods against Vermont
five nothing, two goals in the first period. Starting things
off was Lazy Eating getting a power play goal tip
(01:32:44):
in front off a shot from Caroline Harvey, and then
it was Laney Potter getting another goal, her second goal
in as many games for the Badgers. And then in
the second period three goals for Wisconsin, another power play goal,
Caroline Harvey getting on the score sheet, and then two
straight goals by Hall looking for I don't want to
jinx that, I guess I already said the word hat trick,
(01:33:05):
which I don't know if it has the same jinks
like a shutout would have. But she's on hat trick
watch just one goal away. She scored her sixth and
seventh goal of the season. Has a chance to play
against her sisters. An assistant coach for Youton College tomorrow,
if the Badgers can hold this five to nothing lead.
And I don't have the stat on me, but I
imagine it's been quite a long time, if at all,
(01:33:26):
that the Badgers have lost the game after being up
five to nothing after two periods. But we'll see. We
never know. Vermont has been playing a lot better in
that second period than they did in the first. They
started off much better compared to the Badgers. They had
probably the first three shots on goal in that second period.
They had five shots in the first period, and they
had four in the opening five minutes of the second period,
(01:33:48):
they had ten. Slowed down, they only have eleven shots
in the game now. They of course took some penalties.
That's what it was. Vermont had all the pressure on
the Badgers in the opening few minutes. They started off
with that power play as well. They carried over from
the first period that rough and call going against ma Venusio.
But then the Badgers were able to score on a
power play after a counter attack, and then about a
(01:34:09):
minute or so later they were able to score another
goal make it for nothing, and then of course Cassie
Hall getting a second goal making it five nothing. The
Badgers have been incredible in.
Speaker 2 (01:34:20):
The power play.
Speaker 1 (01:34:20):
They struggled in the first few games this season on
the player advantage, and then against Minnesota ba Loo from
that four to nothing win, three out of their four
goals in that game were on the power play, and
that fourth goal that technically wasn't on the power player,
as we mentioned earlier in the broadcast, was about a
second and a half after the power play ended, so
in my book it was a power play, but on
the stat sheet not a power play goal. Then, of
(01:34:41):
course two more power play goals today, including the opening
goal of the game from Lacey Eden on the power play.
We're going to take our final break of the intermission
report presented by Fields Madison. Stay tuned, I made Michaels.
You're listening to Badger Women TAKI on ten to seventy
of the game.
Speaker 2 (01:34:57):
We will be right back.
Speaker 1 (01:35:04):
We welcome you back. After that quick right here on
ten to seventy of the game, we're gonna have a
quick sports update from our very own Doug Russell. So
let's take a listen to that.
Speaker 11 (01:35:15):
This one's gonna be tough to overcome.
Speaker 2 (01:35:17):
Got him good game. The Dodgers win it, Sasaki closes
the door. Los Angeles wins at three to one.
Speaker 5 (01:35:28):
They are eight and one in this postseason, steam rolling
their way through this playoff run.
Speaker 11 (01:35:36):
Brian Anderson on TBS with the call the final scoring.
Game three of the Nation League Championship Series. The Dodgers
over the Brewers three to one. LA up three games
to none. Making matters worse, Jackson Surio reaggravated his hamstring injury.
He had to leave the game in the seventh inning.
The team says it's cramping. Churio said after the game
that he's hopeful that he'll be able to play tonight.
(01:35:57):
The Brewers need to win or their season is over.
First pitches just after seven to thirty. Meanwhile, over in
the American League, it's a brand new series. The Blue
Jays beating up on the Mariners for the second straight nine,
eight to two to not up that series at two
to two. Game five is this evening in Seattle, closer
to home to the ice.
Speaker 2 (01:36:15):
Talk to take the draw against Benninkase and wins the
face off deck. Cimber faling one time.
Speaker 5 (01:36:19):
Shot redirect Badger's score, Oliver Tulp.
Speaker 2 (01:36:24):
Or Simon Taessi. The Badgers finally get on the board,
it's the senior Tessie redirecting that blast.
Speaker 11 (01:36:31):
It's one one that made it one to one. That's
how it ended. The Wisconsin men's hockey team skating to
a draw at the Cole Center against Minnesota State. Same
two teams again tonight, the puck drops seven pre game
starts at six thirty. Women's soccer, the number fifteen Badgers
a one nil winner at Oregon Brooke Allen with a
game's only goal. At fifty two to oh three football. Tomorrow,
(01:36:53):
the struggling Badgers take on the number one Ohio State Buckeyes.
Speaker 12 (01:36:56):
Sometimes some of the things that hold us back as
just our own self in a way that like, look,
we try to be perfect in the recognition that if
you're gonna go out there and you're gonna do anything
against number one team in the country, you can't be
held back by being perfect, because being perfect is not
going to get us what we need to.
Speaker 11 (01:37:11):
Get, Wisconsin coach Luke Fickel. Our Badger's game day coverage
begins at ten thirty. Kickoff is at two thirty. Right
here on thirteen to ten WIBA Thursday Night Football. The
Unk Bowl came right down to the wire.
Speaker 2 (01:37:22):
Three seconds down two points.
Speaker 5 (01:37:25):
Rogers takes the shotgun staff, he fades, He rolls to
the near left.
Speaker 2 (01:37:29):
Rogers steps into eight. Heaves a long, arcing effort.
Speaker 5 (01:37:33):
Into the end zone, knocked down by the Bengals, and
that's the game.
Speaker 3 (01:37:37):
Djivy got up playing deep safety and swats it down.
Speaker 2 (01:37:42):
The volleyball finish.
Speaker 3 (01:37:43):
And Cincinnati beats Pittsburgh thirty three to thirty one, and
a Thursday Night.
Speaker 11 (01:37:48):
Thriller Gonzadak on the call on Westwood One. The two
oldest quarterbacks in the NFL, Aaron Rodgers and Joe Flacco,
combining for seven touchdown passes, the Bengals edging the Steelers
thirty three to thirty one. Cincinnati now three and four,
Pittsburgh falls to four and two. The Packers get Aaron
Rodgers and the Steelers next Sunday Night first though for
Green Bay is at Arizona Sunday at three twenty five kickoff.
(01:38:12):
Our pregame coverage will begin at one. I'm Doug Russell
on ten seventy the game, and we.
Speaker 1 (01:38:24):
Welcome you back in sign the M ANDT Bank Center
here in Schenectady, New York. You're listening to Bad Roomansaki
on ten seventy The game, the semifinal game the twenty
twenty five Icebreaker Tournament hosted by Union College alongside me
Paul L. Lucas. My name's Aiden Michaels. Period number three
and about thirty seconds from now, we were just looking
down before we came back on the air. Coach Mark
(01:38:47):
Johnson was talking on the referees. We assume perhaps it's
about the Charlotte peakinhog and no goal, and I'm not
sure what the referees could be Talan coachs there.
Speaker 2 (01:38:56):
But you know, I don't end them for having to
make that explanation. Yeah, and I wouldn't. I wouldn't give them,
give them an out there. I'd love to hear it,
but yeah, I don't. I don't want to be the
one explaining why it's not so I wouldn't mind being
a fly on the wall to here, though.
Speaker 1 (01:39:13):
No kidding, No, kidding. Unfortunately, we don't have mics on
the bench, so we are unable to to hear that conversation.
But nonetheless we begin period number three here in Schenectady.
The puck has been dropped. Badger's win the draw, and
here we go twenty more minutes of regulation of play.
Right off the draw, Scannal fighting for it in the
(01:39:34):
neutral zone. Puck comes free for haul all two goals today,
looking for a hat trick. She loses the puck there
to Scota. Lewis picks it up behind the net for
Vermont cross ice pass to cocovec gets it to a harrow,
touches it down into the corner. Jungles shovels out one across.
(01:39:55):
Scannal touches it up the middle into the right side
his hall, trying to get a on hemp Paul centering
pass doesn't get through. Scannal picks it up at the point.
Now is Jungles Jungle drips a shot seat in front
Gorbutenko scores. Just like that, The Badgers have a sixth.
Speaker 2 (01:40:12):
Wow. Incredible, I mean great shot by Vivian Jungles from
the point, setting up an incredible tip right there by
Kelly Gorbatanco. Yeah, I mean this that was awesome. That
was an awesome way to start the period within the
first minute, getting on the goal or getting on the board. Incredible.
Speaker 1 (01:40:31):
What a tip in front there, the second tip goal
of the day for the Badgers. Lacy Eaton had the
first one. Gorbatenko getting back on the score sheet for
the Badgers with the beautiful tip in front. Jungles with
the assist, and the Badgers have a six. Here's Eating
though right off the bat Sims trying to find Eating again.
Good stick though kept in by the Badgers behind the
(01:40:52):
goal is Sims. Badgers don't want to stop at six.
Eden in the corner, turning away, gets pressed up against
the boards there, taken away by Brochu up ahead looking
for Havana, couldn't control it. Here's Eden, the Sims Chappo
(01:41:14):
Valley Vova on the left side, behind the back pass
the Sims in the corner. Sims sends that one back
behind the goal. Eden picks it up, states to the corner,
slides that one across going to the point, but nobody there.
It trickles out of the zone and Venusio picks it
up at center ice, right back in for the Badgers's
sims Sims holding Sims down low, Chappo Valley Vova gets
(01:41:39):
the puck taken away an outcome. Vermont, who can clear
the zone but they can't keep.
Speaker 8 (01:41:44):
Possession, did a good job defending against that top line
for the Badger's not an easy task by any means,
but they did a good job not letting the Badger
create really good scoring opportunities there.
Speaker 1 (01:41:58):
Here's Murphy now in the Badger's zone. I'm not sure
Vermont has had full possession of the puck at all
this period. In the opening two and a half, En
Right picks it up for the Badgers at center ice.
Here is Picard on the left side, throws out one
toward goal, deflected wide Halverson to the point. Is Jones
(01:42:19):
across the Potter a goal today, throws one to the net,
deflected wide by Picard, who falls through the ice behind
the goal. Picked up by Enright back behind the net
Is Picard throws one to the point to Potter on
the left side. Potter throws one toward goal off the
skate there of dan Zaries. Halverson lost it to mess
(01:42:41):
played and then skating it out is Lloyd Howe.
Speaker 2 (01:42:45):
I think you're gonna see the Badger defenseman continue to
shoot from the point. They're creating some good opportunities with redirections.
I imagine they're going to try to do that the
rest of this period.
Speaker 1 (01:42:54):
Yeah, I mean, they already have a couple of goals
by doing that, so why not keep going. Obviously, Caroline
Harvey has a over own from the point, Lady Potter
getting a goal as well, so even the Blue Liners
getting on the score sheet as well. Face off. Now
outside of the Badger zone. McCarthy to take it full
of Wisconsin. Oh Haro to take it four vermnths. McCarthy
(01:43:15):
wins the draw. Here's Bickett. Bickett gave it away to Retrom.
Retrom into the corner, sends that one around. Lewis touches
it to the point to Dean Zaris, sends that one
back behind the goal. Chasing it is, Retrom gets it
away from Peakin. Hagen goes that to the point, say
by McNaughton. The rebound is Loos picked up by Harvey.
(01:43:36):
Lewis couldn't control it. Oh haarrah shot blocked in front
by Bickett. Captain Sarony blocked again by Pickett and out
of the zone.
Speaker 2 (01:43:45):
Well done by Bickett, I mean, just doing whatever she
can to make sure shots aren't getting through to Ava McNaughton.
Well done, seventeen.
Speaker 1 (01:43:55):
The extra skater in today's game. Couple of great blocks
centering past say by mcnonton the rebound, they score Stello
Retrom for Vermont and there goes the shutout for Ava mcnonton.
Speaker 2 (01:44:08):
Here in the third. Yeah, you know, you gotta give
credit to Vermont there they you know, a lot of
pressure on the Badgers, keeping the puck in the zone,
creating opportunities, and you know they get rewarded. There's the
shot right from the slot. A lot of rebounds there,
so you know, good on them for sticking it through
and getting an opportunity to score a goal.
Speaker 1 (01:44:30):
Stello Retrom her first goal as a Vermont player and
just her fifth game, made her debut against her former team,
the Penn State Nitney Lioness's and gets her first goal
in green and yellow here today to break up the
Badger shutout. It is now six to one Wisconsin. Here
in the third, Badger's looking for an instant response. Here
(01:44:56):
is Havana Havannah trying to add to the university of
Vermont's goal there in the corner. Now Brocho taken away
by Murphy. Done well. Murphy turns away from Brochu, nearly
taken away back in front of the net, goes behind
the goal. It's still not cleared away, but Scannel can
(01:45:17):
shovel it to the middle to Jungles, so we'll get
it out of the zone. Second line back out for
the Badgers, the one that scored less than a minute
into this third period at the point Gorbetenko trying to
keep it.
Speaker 2 (01:45:34):
In good pressure by Gorbitanko there see if she can
create an opportunity for the Badgers.
Speaker 1 (01:45:40):
Here, still pinned up against the boards, is Gorbatanco trying
to kick it loose. Finally, the stick of Brochu gets
it loose for Vermont. Here's Wilkin. Wilkins sends that back
behind the goal Nick Naughton who nearly gave it away,
but Jungles got it in the end. Jungles up ahead
the Scannal. Scannal sends out one to the middle. A
(01:46:02):
couple of stick taps there from Gorbatenko trying to send
a message there to Vermont. Picked up now by Gorbatanko
behind the net, centering pass what a save by Simmons,
it goes all the way off the pad and into
the netting. Was that in Cassie Hall in the slot there?
Speaker 2 (01:46:16):
I think that might have been Eden, but a really
good job by Kelly Gorbatanco and creeping that pressure up,
slapping the ice with the stick, just letting them know
that she's there, creating the pressure and then throwing a
greade a opportunity to Lacey Eden.
Speaker 1 (01:46:30):
Yep, trying to get her second goal of the day,
where it then becomes a race between her and Cassie
Hall for.
Speaker 2 (01:46:37):
The hat trick.
Speaker 1 (01:46:41):
Behind the net for the Catamounts is Zarconi. Dean Zaris
still back behind the goal, gets it to Arconi again
but it's turned over. Bojarski slides that one around, kept
in by Mackenzie Jones for the Badgers, skates it into
the corner, find eating behind the net, centering pass out
(01:47:02):
in front say by Simmons. The shot from Sims there
was denied.
Speaker 2 (01:47:06):
Really good for check by the Eden Sims line there,
I mean, incredible job just pressuring the puck and not
allowed and to get out of the zone.
Speaker 1 (01:47:15):
Brought back in by the Badgers, touched along by Eden,
but then gave it away to Zarconi, who retreats back
into the corner. Chappa Valley Vova wins it back behind
the net Sims. Sims still with it behind the net,
looking for an option out in front, skates to the corner,
goes back down low for Eden, centering past to find Sims.
Sims couldn't get a shot, goes behind the go into
(01:47:37):
the corner. Now Sims on the right side, makes a
move at the point, goes down into the corner for
Chappa Valley Voa centering pass looking for Eden. That one
was blocked off the stick. Badgers maintained the zone. Chappa
vel I Vova sends it to Sims. Sims gets it
taken away by Lloyd Howe, and here she is at
(01:47:58):
center ice shooting that one down behind the net for
McNaughton to settle thirteen fifteen to go. Here in regulation,
Badger's lead six to one.
Speaker 2 (01:48:10):
Potter has it in.
Speaker 1 (01:48:10):
The Badger's zone. Venusio back behind the net for Potter
into the corner. Gave it away at the point that Cocovec.
Cokovec finds O'Hara down low, kicked away by Potter. Lewis
has it, takes a shot missus well wide. Retrom, the
goal scorer for Vermont, sends it back behind the goal,
picked up by Patard trying to clear the zone. Can't
do it, falls down, Retrom loses her stick. Retrom kicks
(01:48:35):
it along with no stick along the boards there, Cokovec
and en Right battling for it. Cocovek wins that battle,
sends it back around Potter in Herceps gets the Halverson.
Halverson can finally clear the zone.
Speaker 2 (01:48:50):
Good sustained pressure there by Vermont not letting the Badgers
getting the puck out of the zone. Uh didn't weren't
able to create any opportunities out of it, but you
know that's what you have to do against a team
like the Badgers. You had a pressum a little bit.
Speaker 1 (01:49:00):
Here's a three on two now for the Badgers. Good
defensive play made though by Hemp to stop that attack
from coming into fruition at the point now on the
left side is bicket Grace. Bickett shovels that one along,
gets pressed up against the board, stays with it, and
then Hemp comes away with it for Vermont. Nice move
(01:49:24):
there from George taking it up and then gives it
away to Harvey. However, you have to to Halverson trying
to poke one along there at center ice Zillis gets
a stick to it and it trickles into the bench,
into the glove of Riah Stewart, and we'll get a
face off here. Eleven forty seven to go here in
the third period, Badger's with a commanding six to one lead.
(01:49:46):
They would have liked that shut out, of course, but
now we see how many more they pile on.
Speaker 2 (01:49:51):
You know, I think I mean it's it's always it's
never good to lose a shutout, but does create an
opportunity for learning for those teams. These are the tests
that you want to learned from early in the season
to try and clear up some mistakes. So I think
it's a good, good opportunity for Badgers to come back
and figure out what they need to fix going throughout
the season.
Speaker 1 (01:50:10):
Most certainly, here's McCarthy shovels it along to Peak and
Hogen rips a shot save made by Simmons. Harvey at
the left point rips a shot again, was looking for
the stick of Peak and Hogen to tip one in,
but it was straight into the glove of Elie Simmons.
The Buffalo, New York native. A couple of good chances
there for Peak and Hogen still trying to.
Speaker 2 (01:50:32):
Get that goal. Absolutely. I mean she's this line with
McCarthy and picking Hogen, two very good North South players.
I think they're gonna really, you're gonna see some success
from this line as they play together longer. They're fast,
they're strong, They're gonna create a lot of opportunities for goals.
This season goes on.
Speaker 1 (01:50:52):
Badgers win the draw. It's tied up in the corner.
Murphy a shot from the point off the side of
the goal. Paul centering pass took a deflection. Gorba Tank
trying to win it back with her long reach. What
comes free from mess pledge for Vermont, skating it out
of the zone, gets taken down.
Speaker 2 (01:51:08):
No call there.
Speaker 1 (01:51:08):
Here's Venusio now in space, makes a couple of nice maneuvers.
Venusio takes a shot fans on It goes wide on
the rebounded Scannel at the point to Murphia's shot wide
of the goal again, comes all the way across to
the right point for Venusio. Shovels it up ahead to
Scannal in the corner. Scannal skating to the opposite corner,
staying with it heading to the point, comes free looking
(01:51:31):
for Hall. Both teams whacking at it along the boards,
eventually comes away for dean zeris in the corner, who
gets it out of harm's way to Scott Vermont still
can't clear. Dean zeris now in some more space, being
pressured there by Cassie Hall has to spin away from
her and does.
Speaker 2 (01:51:51):
This is a tough line to play against the Scanne
Hall and Corve Tenco. They've got length, they've got speed,
and you can see that they can create a lot
of pressure very quick for an opposing team.
Speaker 1 (01:52:03):
Now here they come again. Murphy now making a move inside,
gets taken down, draws a third penalty. That's the third
time Ava Murphy has drawn a penalty in this game.
Speaker 2 (01:52:12):
Calleda hatrick. Call it a hat trick.
Speaker 1 (01:52:15):
It's like they have the Gordi Al hatrick for a
goal and assist in a fight. Perhaps this is the
Ava Murphy hat trick. I mean, let's put it. Let's
put it in the record books. We'll see if we
can get it going. The Aba Murphy hat trick. Right,
drawn three penalties in a game. I like it. There
you go through a trip in the first period, then
a hook and then I didn't see what that call was.
Speaker 2 (01:52:33):
Was that a hook?
Speaker 1 (01:52:34):
I think?
Speaker 2 (01:52:34):
I think so? So yeah, really good job by Murphy
drawing the penalties. You know, it is tough to be
the team when you're on the PK as much as
as you are or as much as Vermont has been today.
So good opportunity for the Badgers to put up seven.
Speaker 1 (01:52:51):
Absolutely, And it's it's interesting because we're just talking about
how hard that second line is to play against. As
soon as they were going off the ice to get
that line change. Instead of just dumping it down, Murphy
tried going to the net and drew that penalty. It's
a great heads up play.
Speaker 2 (01:53:03):
I mean, there's a lot of uh. I mean, there's
an aggressive nature to the players on Badgers. They're really good.
They when they start to sense that the game can
kind of get broken open, they they go for it right.
They're they're looking for opportunities to score, they're looking for
opportunities to create, you know, chances for their teammates. And
you can see that with Abra. Murphy just jumped right
into the rush as a defenseman and driving the net
(01:53:25):
most definitely.
Speaker 1 (01:53:26):
So there is a media timeout. We're going to take
a very quick break here on ten seventy the game.
When we come back, the Badgers on yet another power play.
Stay tuned back here on ten the game age, like
Paul Lucas here with you. About nine and a half
to go in regulation. Badgers on yet another power play
(01:53:50):
today in the corner. Now is en Right out of
Venusio at the point Fans on a shot heads to
the corner, Peak and Hogin trying to get a stick
to it. Can't do it. That one takes a deflection
and into the bench. We'll get a face off. It
looks like the refereece pointing to inside the zone.
Speaker 2 (01:54:11):
Good opportunity there by the Badgers to get a new
power play unit out there with Enright picking Hoggin and Finley. Obviously,
we don't know what's gonna happen later in the year,
who's gonna be on the Olympic roster, who's going to
be traveling, and whatnot, But a good opportunity in this
game to get people who aren't normally on the power
play out there to see how they gel.
Speaker 1 (01:54:29):
Absolutely, now's the time to get those reps in. One
of the better defenders on this Vermont team Ashley Kokovec
sitting in the box for just about a minute left,
unless the Badgers, of course, can score before the time
runs out. In the corner of a shappo Vali Vova
behind that it is Sins centering pass. Say you've made
(01:54:50):
by Simmons. It was eating in the button there and
the catamounts can clear. It's una havana shorthanded the right
side Harvey and Sims stopping that one up. Harvey wins
it back for Wisconsin, gets it to Potter. Potter up
ahead Eden Badgers can't standside. I don't know that one
(01:55:12):
was a little tough, but again the Badger's caught off side.
Sim's not happy with it.
Speaker 2 (01:55:19):
Yeah, that's a tough one. I mean, obviously ref's got
a call out. They're not gonna just let that one slide.
But you know, you got so many skaters with so
much speed that you know, someone hits a real quick
stop at the blue line could create an opportunity for
an offsides.
Speaker 1 (01:55:36):
Now it's center ice off the draws. Jungles doesn't like
what she sees, so she spins away and sends it
up ahead to Bickett, who shovels that one into the
zone for Gorbutenko. Gorbatenko, nice move. Gorbatenko behind the net,
centering pass doesn't find it. Gorbutenko back the Jungles at
the point rips a shot deflected in front and cleared
away by Kaylee. Lewis goes all the way down for McNaughton.
(01:56:01):
Jungles to Hall, Hall in the neutral zones, skating into
the zone on the right side. Hall gets stopped up
there by Zarconi, who can clear and out of the
box comes Cocovec. So a penalty killed there for Vermont.
Here's Jungles taking it back in for the Badgers. Jungles
(01:56:22):
behind the net, still with it, turn around shut wide
of the goal. Lewis for Vermont at center ice, dumps
that one down. McNaughton stops that one up, finds Jungles
behind the net. Here's Gorbutenko Gilbertenko. Nice move there at
center ice, gaining the line now Gorbertenko lost it. Good
(01:56:44):
stick there from mess Pled podium, the captain for Vermont
sends that one down to Cocovec fresh out of the box.
Wilkin at her own blue line gets it up ahead
to mess Pled, who dumps that one down cross ice,
stopped by McNaughton, drops it off from McKenzie, Jones, Murphy
(01:57:08):
and Right got a touch, icing is waved off. Simmons
behind the goal and he gets it up to Hemp
and right, trying to fight for it, comes free. Here's
George sends that one down behind the net. McNaughton again
making to stop here and right cross eyes passed to Halverson,
(01:57:30):
plays along with it, gets it to Murphy in her
own zone, drops it back off. Halverson's gonna go to
the corner to pick it up. Six and a half
to go. Here in the third period, Jones up ahead
to find Picard. Picard dropping it back off for Murphy.
Here is Halverson in the corner, now to Murphy. Murphy
(01:57:52):
back into the corner for Halverson, back to the point
to Murphy. Shot there save may by Simmons comes free
for the right point for Venusio right keeps it in.
Murphy goes for a change on comes Potter, just in
time for the counter attack for Vermont. Lewis gets around
Venusio into the corner, sends that one behind the goal,
(01:58:12):
gets by the stick of Potter. O'Hara fighting for it
there with Potter, who drops her stick, picks it right
back up, bankes. The play put comes free for Retrom.
A lot of back and forth here in the last
couple of minutes comes free for Halverson, who throws that
one to center ice, stopped up with the red line
(01:58:33):
by Venusio.
Speaker 2 (01:58:37):
A board battle in.
Speaker 1 (01:58:38):
The neutral zone comes free for Pekin. Hogen takes a
shot from center ice, save made.
Speaker 2 (01:58:45):
It looked like it went into the netting.
Speaker 1 (01:58:46):
But we play on.
Speaker 2 (01:58:51):
Let's see what this McCarthy Pickenhagen line can do. You
still got Venusio and Potter out there, hopefully get a
change pretty soon. They've been out there for quite a
bit of time now, and.
Speaker 1 (01:59:03):
Now they can make a change offside going against Vermont,
and now on come Jungles and Harvey, the number one
depairing on this Badger team, that fourth line staying out
for Wisconsin Zillish McCarthy and Pekin Hogen. McCarthy loses out
(01:59:25):
on the draw to mess pled Vermont have it fanning
on that one though, was Podine picked up by Peakin
Hogen Peaking Hogen tight angle shot save mate. She goes
crashing into the boards. Peaking Hoggin gets right back up,
tries to win possession back, can't quite do it, skips
over the stick of Zillish. Mess Pled picks it up.
Nice pass from Lloyd Howe, but it goes under the
(01:59:47):
stick of Scott. Lloyd Howe tries the centering pass off
a stick brought down by the glove of George Zillish
gets it out of the zone and Scott sends it
back in for Vermont, picked up behind the goal now
by Harvey Jungles taking it from behind her net. McCarthy
(02:00:12):
was going for a change. She's slow to get over
the boards there.
Speaker 2 (02:00:15):
Yeah, it's like like she slipped up or something. I
can't really tell how she fell.
Speaker 1 (02:00:20):
But.
Speaker 2 (02:00:23):
Doesn't look like she's getting checked out by the at
or anything.
Speaker 1 (02:00:25):
Yeah, as you say, it.
Speaker 2 (02:00:26):
Seems to be okay.
Speaker 1 (02:00:27):
Yeah, back come the Badgers though on the right side
it's Eden Eden centering pass saved by Simmons as it
went on goal Shapa vallee Vova in the corner, taken
away by Havana. Who know Havana stretched pass into the
Badger bench and a face off to come out of
the zone with three p forty one to go here
(02:00:47):
in regulation, Badger's lead six to one.
Speaker 2 (02:00:51):
Some really good back and forth in the last few
minutes by the Badgers and Vermont. No one's really been
able to find the back of the net and a
few minutes, which is sort of silly to say, but
good back and forth so far.
Speaker 1 (02:01:04):
Absolutely. Face off at center ice won by chap of
Velly Vova Venusio back to Adela chap of Veli Vova
gets it up ahead to Eden, Eden across the Sims,
Sims stopping up, staying with it for now, getting tied
up and then losing possession to retro. Badgers win the puck.
(02:01:27):
Back at center ice, Venusio got it poked away. Here's
Lewis and a breakaway chance. Lewis moving on in save
by McNaughton and gets another one.
Speaker 2 (02:01:37):
Oh I like that. I like that a lot. That's cool.
Yeahs a ring to it, Yeah it does, Okay, I
like that a lot. No, it's a great save by McNaughton.
Speaker 9 (02:01:46):
Ye.
Speaker 2 (02:01:46):
Really good pressure there by Vermont creating an opportunity, just
driving the net, but good on both sides.
Speaker 1 (02:01:54):
Big save there from Ava McNaughton. A face off. Now
Badger's coming away with it. Here comes Scan Oh scandal.
Oh it was a bit offside. Gorbatenko maybe thought she
was gonna get that pass from Scannal and then it
was too late when Scandal decided to take it herself.
So faced off outside the zone with three zero.
Speaker 2 (02:02:12):
Six to go. I think this lion's got some some
more jam in the legs. I think they I think
they might find the back of the net one more
time before the before of the period ends.
Speaker 1 (02:02:21):
You heard it here first. See what happens. Here's Potter
right off the draw sends that one down. Did it
take a touch? They called icing? Yeah, Simmons was there
to get it, But I guess they called the icing
before that, and they might. Yeah, I think they're gonna
have this at center ice. Made a little mistake there,
(02:02:42):
but it is what it is. It happens face off
at center ice. No puck, don't lie, Badgers win the draw.
Mackenzie Jones in her own zone. Here's Potter slips up,
it makes the play to get it to Jones. Here
comes Hall now on the Lee side. Is there more
in store for this line? Paul sends it across just
(02:03:04):
under the stick of Mackenzie Jones and it goes out
of the zone. There Jones has it back Jones getting
to one knee there but making the play.
Speaker 2 (02:03:16):
Good composure by a freshman McKenzie Jones to get the
puck in the zone. Well done.
Speaker 1 (02:03:20):
Gorbetenco keeps the zone. It's locked in the corner. There
comes free for Cassie Hall, drops it off for Scannal.
Scannal centering pass looking for Gorbutenko. It's a good deflection.
Potter got it to Scannal in the other corner. Scandal
to the point across the Jones rips the shot, save,
(02:03:41):
rebound goes over the stick of Scandal. Here's Potter now
keeping the zone for the Badgers. Gorbutenko the one touch
kept in by Jones with her long reach. Jones to
the net. Scannal centering pass. Gorbutenko scores and you called it,
You didn't jinx it hits it going again. Second goal
(02:04:01):
the day for Kelly Gorbtenko. That is four goals for
this line alone.
Speaker 2 (02:04:05):
Holy moly. They have been an absolute energy line for
the Badgers today. Well done by Cassie Hall, Gorbatanco and Scannal.
Speaker 1 (02:04:15):
Unreal. Cassie Hall to Gorbtenko to Scannal. Playing in our
home state.
Speaker 2 (02:04:22):
Really good. Fine by scannal there and really nice touch
by Kelly Gorbitanko. Didn't fan on it, didn't hammer it,
just put enough to get it over the line. Incredible job.
Speaker 1 (02:04:34):
KG had one goal heading into today's game, has two
today alone.
Speaker 2 (02:04:40):
Got a couple players on the hat trick. Watch now,
oh yeah.
Speaker 1 (02:04:45):
Still some time. Minute fifty to go here in regulation,
puticard centering pass off the stick of Simmons falls for Harvey,
Harvey backhander and it's in and completely missed. Huh by
Ellie Simmons, And talk about hatrick. Watch now, Caroline Harvey's
got too.
Speaker 2 (02:05:03):
What just happened?
Speaker 1 (02:05:04):
Oh my goodness that that's a rough one. Harvey shoveled
one on net. I'm not sure if it took a deflection,
but it was up in the air. Simmons tried to
make the catch with her glove and completely whiffed it
and it went into the back of the net. That
is such a tough one. That is Oh man, that's brutal.
Speaker 2 (02:05:22):
It's tough for the goalie right there.
Speaker 1 (02:05:24):
Yeah, you got a feel for Simmons there. She's made
a lot of says obviously she's face now forty three shots,
but oh that is uh, that's an unfortunate one for Simmons.
But Caroline Harvey's gonna take that goal.
Speaker 2 (02:05:36):
I'll tell you what.
Speaker 1 (02:05:38):
Can pekanhawk and get her goal. She shoots and it's blocked.
So we said earlier when Caroline Harvey scored its four
straight games with the goal. She's got five goals in
her last four. Incredible stuff from the blue liner. Did
we mentioned she's a defender by the way, I mean
she's I mean she's.
Speaker 2 (02:05:56):
She's all over the ice. She kind of plays, you know,
like almost like a position you see a free safety really,
you know, ball hawk and free safeties who are just
all over the ice.
Speaker 1 (02:06:05):
She's kind of like that, Oh picking hoging, here's peeking hogging.
Can she get her gold?
Speaker 2 (02:06:08):
No?
Speaker 1 (02:06:09):
On the rebound, it's off the side of the goal
in the final minute. Wow, But she'll stay on the ice. Badgers,
can they get one more? Get it to nine's Arcony
behind the net for Vermont, gets it to Lewis. Lewis,
who had the last chance for Vermont on that breakaway,
gets it taken away by Murphy dean Zaris. Heavy pressure
(02:06:33):
now from the Badgers. Halverson after coming off the bench,
Louis dumps that one down twenty five seconds remain here
in regulation scannal staying with it now en right with
speed n right to the net back end or save rebound,
say by Simmons, want to stop there? From the New
York native, Murphy rips a shot second time, still has
(02:06:57):
it five seconds to go? Is there time for one more?
Murphy a shot? Save? The rebound is loose and it
goes into the corner for mess play to pick up.
As the final buzzer sounds, the Badger with the Badgers
with a dominant win.
Speaker 2 (02:07:10):
Eight won the final.
Speaker 1 (02:07:11):
Score and they are heading to the championship game tomorrow afternoon.
Speaker 2 (02:07:15):
Really good job across the board, all four lines kind
of humming today. I mean, you saw opportunities from the
picking Hoggen line, obviously, the Lacey Eden line, you know,
first line, that second line, you know, second line creating
four goals. Everyone's doing a good job, even the third
line that I don't think they got on the score sheet,
so to speak today, but obviously creating great pressure on Vermont,
(02:07:37):
tiring out that team and opening up opportunities for the
next three lines to play.
Speaker 1 (02:07:41):
Most definitely and absolutely a statement win here for the Badgers.
Improving the seven to zero on the season, and they're
gonna play for a trophy tomorrow against either Union or
Saint Ansel. But Paul, I want to thank you for
coming on. Obviously you'll be here tomorrow, I assume for.
Speaker 2 (02:07:55):
I will be. I will be. This was a third
time in the booth, obviously doing my best to do
my best impersonation of Greenee. You know, big shoes to fill.
So that's all. That's all. The only goal I have
right now is just do right by Greene.
Speaker 1 (02:08:09):
I think Greeney, if he's listening, is gonna be very
proud of the job that you've done. You did a
fantastic job. So anyway, stay tuned for the postgame show.
Eight won the final score of the Badgers for Paul F. Lucas,
I'm aide and Michaels. We'll be right back here on
ten seventy the game, and we welcome you to the
(02:08:31):
post game show here on ten seventy the game. If
you're not bored me already, I'm back for more Badger
women's hockey coverage. After the Badgers won the semifinal game
here in the twenty twenty five ice Breaker tournament here
at M and T Bank Center in Schenectady, New York.
Badgers with as I said before the break, a statement win.
Eight won the final score. Avin McNaughton not able to
(02:08:54):
get the shut out. It was Stella Retrom with a
third period goal for Vermont to end that shutout bid.
The Badgers are going to be happy with how they
played today. A goal from Lacey Eden to get things
started off, a goal from Lady Potter, and then two
goals from Cassie Hall, Kelly Gorbatanko, and Carolyn Harvey. We
had three players on hat trick watch. None were able
to get that third goal, but it's two third period
(02:09:15):
goals alone for Kelly Gorbatenko. The Badgers with a dominant,
dominant win. That's what you can say. That's the word
you use. Dominant eight one and they will either play
Union or Saint Anselm, who are playing at three point
thirty today here at M and T Bank Center. But
that is the final score the Badgers again, eight to
Vermont's one. We thank Paul L. Lucas for joining us.
(02:09:37):
He'll be in the booth with us again tomorrow for
the championship game. My name's Aiden Michaels saying so long
from the M and T Bank Center in Schenectady, New York.
Those are the final stats presented by Jay in KSE
Security and we will see you in the championship game
tomorrow on ten to seventy the game.
Speaker 2 (02:09:51):
Goodbye, everybody,
