in the Big Ten opener here in this building, the
Badgers fell to the Buckeyes two to one in overtime. Hartland,
Wisconsin's Max Montes tied the game late in the first
period with a laser from the left circle, and then

he beat Tommy Scarfoni in overtime with just twelve seconds
left as the Buckeyes improved a two to zero to
one overall, the Badgers fell to one and two this season.
And Ian, We're only three games into a thirty four
game regular season, but the Badgers have scored only six
goals so far on one hundred and nineteen shots on goal.

of the season. Wisconsin and Ohio State Buckeyes prevailed in
overtime last night two to one. Badger's coach Mike Castings
joined us here on the pregame show. And that was
Big ten hockey last night, wasn't it.

You know what, It's always going to be close, bit
of a dog fight, and it was found a way
to get a lead. They get one late in the
first period. I thought we carried play the back half
of the second, had a couple of opportunities and over
time didn't finish and they found a way to get
it done.

What changed from the first period of the second period.
He had five shots on goal in the first and boy,
then you really started kicking in indicators.

I thought we started playing in our toes and premium
on physicality at getting there first, and their defenseman liked
to hop up into the play. And last night, I
thought it took us a little bit too long to
get into that and make sure that we're marking them
and getting a body on them. And then I thought
we started to possess bucks and we started to have

second and thirds. We had multiple good looks, you know, fits,
he had a couple. I thought we had a couple
of tu onoh's just got to find a way to finish.

to stop it, right, And so we addressed that a
little bit today, just on giving him an idea of

power play and it's finlay to Moseley and Morrissey had
a little hand in that also. It was a bit
of a three on three and found a way to

a little bit more depth scoring, right. We need it
to be sprinkled around a little bit. It seems like

the same suspects are doing the offense for us and
finishing for us, so we need to spread that around
a little bit.

He needed that. I think it played in new his
confidence a little bit. I think he feels better about
his performance even though he didn't get the W. And

He played well in his first game last Saturday.

Yep, he found a way to get it done. And
you know that's what we asked our whole tender to
do give us a chance to win a hockey game,
and Grammys needs to do that tonight.

What improvement have you seen from William from his freshman
year where he only got to play a handful of
games to what you see.

Speaker 15 (12:27):
Right now, just a bit of a maturity from two
things won his ability to handle adversity. I think he's
almost a perfectionist when it comes to what he does
every day, and when something didn't go well for him,
he really stressed about it. And the second piece is
is he's remade his body, you know, from last year

to this year, this last summer, Tommy Ainkrott himself, you know, plan,
follow the plan, execute it. I think he's in the
best shape of his life. I think that allows him
to worry about other things. Because a nutrition was something
coming from junior hockey that he needed to get dialed
and he definitely did that. He's a specimen right now

and the kid that size it can do nothing but
help his mentality.

I will tell you from Stockholm, Sweden, a lot of
Swedish meatballs and cold cuts, so I'm sure he tried
to dial that out of his diet for sure. Virtually
the same lineup tonight, we're going to see Adam Piedla
in the lineup as the extra Ford. You know, he
showed in junior hockey he can put the puck away
and without Zach Schulz, who's out with an injury. I
thought Jack Falan showed pretty well in his big ten Dame.

I did too.

I thought Jack went in and he played some pretty
significant minutes for us, and after he settled down, I
think was after the second shift, he just he got
into his rhythm. We asked a lot of them last
night and asked him to play his offside as a freshman,
and that's something that he did last year and sous
falls he's comfortable with it. I thought he managed game one.

night after the game, they said, well, if there's two
teams that play the same style and are only going
to win by one goal, come hell or high water,
it's going to be one of those these teams. Because
if anybody plays exactly the same type of style system
format as each other, it's Wisconsin and Ohio State. And

you know, every game that we've seen has been a
one goal game, or maybe an empty net goal game
or whatever. It is, but same principles pretty much all
of it, and the differences. Neither one of them has
a really gifted goal scorer. Yeah, that's the part that
gets me.

Wisconsin has Quinn Finley, who has two goals and four
points and three games, and Rylan Mosley, who has two
goals and three points in three games. Otherwise, the rest
of the skaters for the Badgers have combined for only

is Heartland's Max Montez, who had two goals last night.

to see how the transfer portal in the NIA. What

we've seen, how the transfer portal is affected the programs.
But the nil stuff, the revenue sharings that is coming
to the big programs that get bigger and the smaller
ones disappear, don't know.

opened a two game series at third ranked Minnesota last
night and shut out the Gophers five to nothing. And
today the Badgers fell behind three nothing at Ritter Arena
halfway through the hockey game when Layla Edwards scored a

man in really bottled up and really man handled Wisconsin

Badger forwards in particular down low, and for whatever reason,
they were able to make breakout passes that we haven't
seen anybody do against Wisconsin, you know, quite some time.
So I gave the entire offensive or defensive corps for
Ohio State the number three star. Number two star I
gave to Finley just for his goal, but he was

electrifying anytime that he got to Poka. I was pleased
to see he played with that much emotion. And the
number one star I gave to two defensemen, Loatch and Dexheimer.
It seems like the only time the Badgers got into
the zone clear was when either Latch carried it in
or Dexheimer carried it in. And Dexheimer did something tonight

that I haven't seen in a while. He had more
block shots than any other defenseman, so blocking shots, playing
well in his defensive zone in particular. But when he
lugs the puck, they don't get it away from him,
and it's great. He's the He was the one tool defensively.
He and Lotch were able to carry through the neutral zone.
People would stand them up and they were able to

chip it in or at least get a shot on net.
So the third star would go to Deckheimer Lotch, the

the Buckeyes, but the Badgers went oh for two on
the power play, now three of nineteen on the man advantage.
Ohio State went oh for one. The Buckeyes oh for
nine on the power play. So far this season, Wisconsin
won twenty nine of fifty three face offs. Owen Lynmark
ten out of fourteen in the face off circle. He's
been dynamite in the draws this season and also block shots.

The Badgers had nine, Ohio State had sixteen for a
two game total of forty. The Badgers have had eighty
four shots blocked in four games so far this season. Yeah,
as the goal scorer you were in college, Yeah, how
do you get shots through?

off their belly, off their head, whatever the case may be.

And you get into a situation where that becomes frustrating, sure,
and whether coach likes to admit it or not, when
frustration sets in, it's a hard variable to get out
of the minds of anybody from Badger hockey, and I
would sum it up by this weekend with the very
few goals that were scored, I can't even remember the

last pretty goal, you know where it was a great
individual effort, you beat the goaltender or whatever. Every goal
that was scored this weekend was a hard work, muck tip, deflection,
whatever the.

He's blocked three of the sixteen shots the Buckeyes block tonight,
