Speaker 1 (00:01):
From the Rail Transport broadcast booth inside five serf for
him in Milwaukee. We are moments away from the exhibition
littlifter for Wisconsin basketball. They take on the Oklahoma Sooners tonight.
Alongside former Wisconsin Badger Brian Butch. I'm Chris Foster's filling
in for Matt Lapey tonight. Matt's on the road with
the Wisconsin football team as they get ready to play
(00:23):
the Oregon Ducks tomorrow. So good to be with you
from this neutral site Wisconsin. Of course, the home team
a chance to play in front of fans in the
Milwaukee market. And Brian, we heard starting lineups just a
moment ago, and this is, you know, virtually everyone's chance
to get a look at this Wisconsin Badgers lineup for
(00:43):
the first time with nine newcomers and some really I
think some splash editions out of the transfer portal. Is
there a guy in particular that you're excited to see?
Speaker 2 (00:53):
Well, I think when you start, obviously, when you look
at college basketball, the car position is so important. See
you look at Nick Voyd and what he's able to do.
I think that first is kind of I always say
a head of the stake when you talk about guard player,
he's gonna initiate the offense. We know Wisconsin wants to
play fast. We saw how much how much success they
had last year by averaging more than eighty points the
(01:17):
first time since nineteen seventy one seventy two season. So
can Nick continue to push it at the way that
Greg wants to play. That's the first part. But there's
so many people that you want to watch and see
how it plays out. You know, Wisconsin has thirty two
percent of their minutes back, that's tenth to the Big ten.
So overall, there's a lot of opportunities out there as well.
Speaker 3 (01:38):
So now it's in front of you go get.
Speaker 1 (01:40):
It Badgers in their home whites as they play on
the home court of the Milwaukee Bucks, whose regular season
opener was just earlier this week on Wednesday night, in
those familiar white uniforms with red numbers on the front
and back, Wisconsin spelled out across the front, red trim
at the motion W on the thigh of their leg.
(02:00):
Under armour uniforms, Oklahoma counters with their road reds the
OU interlocking OU logo on the right thigh, white trim
on the jerseys white numbers and letters in Oklahoma spelled
out across the front. Brian Akanna looks like another rendition
of the red and white scrimmage which we saw on
Sunday in Madison, just the Oklahoma shade of red a
(02:23):
little bit.
Speaker 2 (02:23):
Darker than the Wisconsin cardinal red.
Speaker 3 (02:26):
Well, and someone's gonna have to lose this one.
Speaker 2 (02:28):
The difference with the red and white scrimmage is Wisconsin one,
no matter what. So it's an exhibition, yes, but a
great opportunity for both teams.
Speaker 1 (02:36):
Before we get going with tip off time for an id.
You're listening to Wisconsin Basketball, ready to go? Tip center.
Nolan Winter will take it for Wisconsin against Mohammed Waghee
of Oklahoma.
Speaker 3 (02:50):
Badgers win the tip.
Speaker 1 (02:51):
They operate left to right as we see it, and
we are underway a rap with a dribble handoff to Blackwell.
He swings it to Nolan Winter left to right around
the arc first for Andrew Roady and the pocket pass
for Winter is tipped and eventually picked up by Darien
Reid of Oklahoma.
Speaker 3 (03:06):
Sooners first possession.
Speaker 1 (03:07):
They work right to left, Waggie top of the key
one dribbled to his left to hand off to Xavier Brown.
A paint touch for Brown, kick out to the free
throw line, passed from Davis inside to Waggie.
Speaker 2 (03:19):
And the big Nan lays it in for the first
bucket of the game. On the first offensive possession for Wisconsin.
Speaker 3 (03:23):
A turnover.
Speaker 2 (03:24):
That's what you give playing early games like that. That's
just a we'll pass it catch that they didn't connect him.
Two nothing Oklahoma. Forty seconds in Blackwell in the lane,
ten foot fade away jumper goes with the junior John Blackwell,
and the Badgers are on the board and John is
such a great job of just reading the defense. I
understanding you getting in the paint, playoff two feet go
raise up and makeshub.
Speaker 1 (03:44):
Two up and two down. Still not a minute into
this game, and a drive down the right lane line
by Tad Tay Davis is off the mark. Badgers the
rebound quickly the other way. Nick Boyd with a wild.
Speaker 3 (03:54):
Light up attempt.
Speaker 1 (03:55):
He draws the foul in the lane and Nick Boyd
is going to the free throw line.
Speaker 2 (04:01):
And we just talked about being able to get out.
You get the ball, get in transition, get to the
free throw line. That's the question I have with this team.
Can they get to the free throw line as much
as they did last year. You know, John Tanjay was
able to get there a bunch and convert on that
Wisconsin has always been good getting to the free throw line.
Speaker 3 (04:20):
Can this team do the same thing?
Speaker 1 (04:22):
Badgers were one of the best free throw shooting teams
in the country last season, and Nick Boyd still waiting
around at the free throw line to get back going year.
Our attention turns to the Wisconsin bench where Nolan Winter
is getting checked out by Wisconsin athletic trainer Brent Neuharf.
Didn't see what happened, but I think it looks like
(04:45):
Nolan got hit in the nose or in the face,
And yes, they wedged a little bit of Kleenex into
his nose. So Greg guard he's going to his bench
right away and sings in Alexius piliawskis the freshman from Lithuania.
Speaker 3 (04:59):
Definition of No, those blue it's kind of where we're
sitting right now. Oh they're not that bad. Oh no,
get up some fun duel with this. We are a
top section one seventeen at center court.
Speaker 1 (05:11):
You're inside Feiser form to paint the picture for you,
and Nick Boyd goes one for two at the free
throw line. Offensive rebound kickout John Blackwell top of the
key three. It rooms out and goes out of bounds
baseline left, but it's going to stay with Wisconsin as
a matter of fact, last touched by Oklahoma's Xavier Brown,
so Blackwell will inbound from the corner baseline left, fresh.
Speaker 3 (05:36):
Shot clock for Wisconsin.
Speaker 1 (05:37):
It goes into Boyd high on the left, brings it
back down to the left wing jump kickout Blackwell now
left side Biliowskis.
Speaker 3 (05:44):
He finds Austin.
Speaker 1 (05:44):
Rapp right of the circle three ball short long rebound
picked up by wa Gee and Oklahoma runs down the
floor right to left. Hey Davis throws up an alley
up attempt to Darien Reid. Willet's batted out of bounds
and it was deflected by Oklahoma's read last. So Wisconsin
ball no foul, raid hit the deck hard there. Wisconsin
(06:05):
with it up three to two, eighteen to twenty six
and running here first half, rap open out a cut,
He dunks it home on a feed from Andrew Roady
and Wisconsin now leads five to two.
Speaker 2 (06:16):
Really good basketball, IQ though by Rap just slipping that
screen going right.
Speaker 3 (06:20):
To the front of the rim fishing with a dump rap.
Speaker 1 (06:24):
Just a sophomore from Australia, but he played professionally in
the NBL in Australia. Transfer from Portland. Kickout from raid
to wagee. The six to ten big man at the
top of the game traveled Wisconsin ball.
Speaker 2 (06:39):
Good couple defensive possessions by Wisconsin being loaded. Obviously you're
talking about the exhibition games. Sometimes that defense lacks, but
they've been able to get back at transition.
Speaker 3 (06:48):
Then guard and force walls.
Speaker 1 (06:51):
So Boyd on the dribble with the right hand high
on the right while Gee steps out and he swings
it around from wrapping now Blackwell fire side, brings it
back out on the left wing. Bilioskis top of the key.
One dribble hand off Roady right wing. Bilioskis top side.
Three ball on the way and good for the six
to ten pig man off the.
Speaker 3 (07:09):
Bench, and then.
Speaker 2 (07:11):
Just understanding his defender was low, he state out top
for three was able to drill it eight straight for
the Badgers.
Speaker 1 (07:18):
They lead eight to two, seventeen to twenty seven to
go first half. This is Nigel Pack for Oklahoma, top
of the key around Roady right elbow jumper on the
rim and out batted to rap in. Wisconsin has the
rebound boy left to right, pass to his right, rap
underhand right wing, blackwell top of the key. Bilioskis now
high on the left, boy dribbling to his right, shifting
(07:40):
left left wing step back three ball on the way
and short rebound pack of Oklahoma.
Speaker 2 (07:46):
Pack down the floor top of the key. He stops
pass to his left.
Speaker 1 (07:50):
Xavier Brown, on a knifing move into the lane, draws
the follow just inside the free throw line.
Speaker 3 (07:56):
Defensively, Wisconsins got extended there and then that's where the
driving lane was.
Speaker 2 (08:00):
And because they got extended and the drive happened, then
he gets fouled. Those are some of those habits and
filled breakdowns that Wisconsin coach Garden needs to see to say, hey,
we gotta correct it.
Speaker 3 (08:10):
We gotta be tight in this situation. So we don't,
you know, have a fole there.
Speaker 1 (08:14):
So Okiliolskis, who hit the three a moment a go,
picks up his first foul as Jack Janicky checks into
the game off the bench for Wisconsin wearing a new
number number five. You wore number thirty three last season
for Wisconsin. Badger basketball is brought to you by a

Oklahoma inbound, It's stolen by Nick Boyd in the corner.
Badger ball left to right, Blackwell in the lane, kickout
top of the key three rap It's short rebound corraled
by Dayton Forsyth of Oklahoma. Sooners ball Brown for Davis
kickout far corner Reid three ball hits good and Oklahoma.
Speaker 3 (09:01):
Cuts the league to eight. Five. Wisconsin.
Speaker 1 (09:06):
Badger's with it, Boyd near wing, drive into the lane,
kick out Blackwell underhand left wing pack sends it the
other way.
Speaker 3 (09:14):
Now Boyd in the far corner.
Speaker 1 (09:15):
Blackwell high on the left around the screen, curls into
the lane. Blackwell jump stop low block right hits the
short range jumper.
Speaker 3 (09:25):
Four for Blackwell, and it's ten to five.
Speaker 1 (09:28):
Wisconsin with sixteen oh eight and running here in the
first half, Oklahoma ball with Xavier Brown, the junior from Philadelphia,
dribbling laterally to his right, passed back to his left
right left wing three ball in it goes back to
back triples for the Sooners and the score is ten
eight Wisconsin and reps close out.
Speaker 2 (09:48):
There is just a little short because he's short, allows
the three. Now it's Jack Schenicky left wing, top of
the key.
Speaker 1 (09:55):
Billyoskis one dribble past Blackwell right wing, three off the
in front of the rim of the rebounded Tay Davis
of Oklahoma. He brings it up the middle of the floor,
stops straddling the three point arc, and now Brown has
it high on the right, guarded by Boyd of Wisconsin.
Foresight right of the circle draws. The foul is on
Wisconsin's Nick Boyd. And we have fifteen twenty five to
(10:18):
play in the first half. It is time for upbreak.
You are listening to Badger Basketball from Wearfield. American Family
Insurance is the official insurance partner of UW Athletics. Visit

(10:42):
First half, It's Wisconsin ten Oklahoma eight. Exhibition opener for
the Badgers here at Fiser Forum in Milwaukee. John Blackwell
with four points to leave the Badgers.
Speaker 2 (10:53):
Any early thoughts, Brian, I think dude, just overall in
general a little bit slow as far as just coming field,
which is why you play this. It's like to be expected,
so nothing jumps out as far as just you know,
things that you look at say oh wow, that's that's
a rough player that looks really good. It's that flo
process of Okay, this is where they're at. This is
(11:14):
what's kind of happening with it. But Bofenzler, they're pushing
it and you're seeing, you know, a couple those things.
Speaker 1 (11:19):
Early on Popo, it's Oklahoma ball, Xavier Brown on the dribble,
Jennicki Blackwell, Roady Winter, and the fifth man on the
floor for Wisconsin Will Garlock, true freshman from Middleton, Wisconsin,
getting his first court time as a Badger an exhibition play.
Garlock guarding the ball right.
Speaker 3 (11:37):
Now on Mohammed Wagu goes up with a wild shot.
Speaker 1 (11:41):
It's off the backboard and the shot clock Horn went
off with the Badgers had already taken the ball back.
Blackwell on the dribble, kick out top of the key,
Winter in the lane. A runner swirls home for Nolan Winter,
his first pocket of exhibition play.
Speaker 2 (11:55):
And he did a really good job last year being
able to you know, shop fig put that ball in
the dribble, put again it there yet yet again this
year and.
Speaker 1 (12:02):
Then on a drive by Xavier Brown, a foul is
called on Wisconsin underneath and our officials tonight, Keith Kimball,
Marcus Pettigrew and Brian Dorsey are going to review this
followers on Nolan Winter, whose nosebleed has been rectified. It's
(12:25):
the third team foul on Wisconsin. Winter's first personal I'm
gonna put a I'm gonna put a raise my hand
and say, can we please have more exhibition games?
Speaker 3 (12:36):
Son?
Speaker 2 (12:37):
I also add, can we please have more exhibicient games
without reviews? Say do you want more exhibition game review? No?
Speaker 3 (12:42):
No, no, just I want more exhibition games. But can
we just the reviews? Can we take that?
Speaker 2 (12:47):
I guess the official deep practice too, right, Like That's
what I'm gonna tell myself. So it was an off
ball foul. Winter was not guarding the driver on the play.
He collided with Mohammed Waghie and Wagguee ended up in.
Speaker 1 (13:04):
The seated position upright at the free throw line, almost
trailing the play.
Speaker 3 (13:12):
Again.
Speaker 2 (13:12):
It's exhibition season for the officials as well, not that
they need it, but you know, a tune up for
them to just make sure the replay review systems.
Speaker 3 (13:20):
Are working and everything like that.
Speaker 1 (13:22):
You're a big fan of replay, huh, you know, I'm
just I'm just hey, as you said, what did you
say at the at the beginning, Badger basketball signed me
up anytime.
Speaker 3 (13:32):
Anywhere as ever too or early after. You gotta kike
the good with the bad, right, so you don't have
to sign me up for replay. That's if I can
avoid signing up for that, I will. But I mean
I've got fucking session stands literally right behind us. You
can go out there, pretzl have popcorn. It's a good day.
It's good Friday night here. Well, it is a common foul.
Speaker 1 (13:52):
So we play on baseline inbounds for Oklahoma on the
right wing, a three ball on the way for Tay Davison.
Speaker 3 (13:58):
That's good. So Oklahoma has last last.
Speaker 1 (14:00):
Three triples and the lead is won for Wisconsin twelve
to eleven with fourteen and a half minutes to play
first half. Winter has the pass broken up on the
left wing and taken away by Tay Davis. Forsyth on
the right wing, pass up top to Xavier Brown, drives
left lane line, fade away from just inside the elbow,
and suddenly Oklahoma is red hot.
Speaker 2 (14:21):
And Wisconsin last offensive possession. The space was bad and
that's why there was a turn over.
Speaker 1 (14:26):
Oklahoma with the lead thirteen to twelve, roady left wing,
three balls short for Wisconsin rebound to Kai Rodgers of Oklahoma,
who is one of two Wisconsin Natives on the Sooners roster.
Speaker 3 (14:37):
Rodgers from nearby Walwick, Tosa.
Speaker 1 (14:40):
Forsyth shot fake drives, left lane line picked up by Winter,
and a kick out up top to Davis, and he
traveled at the top of the keys. Wisconsin ball thirteen
fifty two to.
Speaker 2 (14:49):
Play actually worked out Kay Rodgers a couple of times.
Oh yeah, it was his high school players. Yeah, dude,
big dude, big dude, boves Well, I mean, overall, you
look at kind of that's what it is. It's we're
gonna see more and more.
Speaker 3 (15:02):
It's tough gonna be for freshmen to come in. But
again you look at Ky Rodgers.
Speaker 2 (15:06):
You know, over time a lead he played so more
experienced freshmen that truly aren't flashman anymore.
Speaker 1 (15:13):
Wisconsin ball trailing by one Winter restricted circle, he is
blocked by Rogers, gets it back, second chance opportunity denied,
and then the ball eventually tips out a bounced baseline
left by Rogers.
Speaker 2 (15:25):
It stays with Wisconsin. Rogers not afraid to challenge the
junior Nolan Winter there and you talk about a big dude,
but most importantly long dude. Yeah right, long arms chested
out two really good blocks against Nolan the sideline inbounds,
Janikia goes to boy top of the key push pass.
Speaker 3 (15:43):
Roady curls in the lane just inside the free throw line.
Speaker 1 (15:46):
Thirteen foot are good for Andrew his first exhibition bucket
as a Badger. Badgers take the lead fourteen thirteen thirteen
twenty to play first half. This is pack left wing
on the triple, guarded by Boyd Wagles to the free
throw line in the paint turnaround fadeaway rainbow shot off
the heel of the rim lung rebound picked up by boy.
He sprints left to right, left lay line shot blocks
(16:09):
by Oklahoma's Jeff milwaukwalls.
Speaker 3 (16:11):
And out of bounds to the far side bench.
Speaker 2 (16:13):
It's stays with Wisconsin twenty five on the shot clock,
but you can already see the face of which boy
plays with. Yes, as you know, catches it. He's gonna go,
he's gonna push. He's put pressure at the rim early
in transition, which is only gonna help this team throughout
this season.
Speaker 1 (16:32):
Braden Carrington has just checked into the game for the
first time for Wisconsin, wearing a white headband number zero.
The Minnesota transfer with the inbounds past to Boy, he
swings it up top to Winter, right side wrap hand off,
roady return, feed, wrap in the lane, layup, good for
the big fellow.
Speaker 2 (16:47):
Austin Rapper's got four points for Wisconsin, and they've all
come on rolls and slips. That's how Rep scored his
two buckets is because he's the basketball i Q understanding
when to slip that, so he's wide open.
Speaker 3 (16:59):
You can see it.
Speaker 1 (17:00):
Wisconsin by three, sixteen to thirteen middle stages of the
first half.
Speaker 3 (17:03):
This is Nigel Pack top of the key. He feeds
Kawal a tech and the big man.
Speaker 1 (17:09):
Sixty nine off the bench for Oklahoma drains a three
tied up at sixteen. Boyd offensive foul on a drive.
It was on wrap, I believe for an all stream. No,
it's on Boyd.
Speaker 2 (17:22):
Yeah, it came high and wrapped and it was a
pretty obvious offensive file call. And again I'll take that
at an exhibition because what is he doing. He's putting
pressure at the rim. When you have a team that
wants to gets the rim or shoot threes, when you
have a point guard that is able to break down
the defense and get to that paint, it creates way
more space.
Speaker 3 (17:42):
Pack top of the key for Oklahoma.
Speaker 1 (17:44):
Now a Tech left to the circle of three ball,
good for Kuwala Tech who's got six and almost instantaneous
fashion Oklahoma leads nineteen sixteen.
Speaker 3 (17:53):
Or just see some short closeouts by Wisconsin.
Speaker 1 (17:58):
Andrew Roady left wing for Wisconsin defense SAgs Rody fires
short from deep rebound Carl by Miawaukwall of Oklahoma. Carrington
spills attack has it on the right wing and he traveled.
There have been about us penning traveling calls on Oklahoma
as they've made three pointers.
Speaker 3 (18:14):
That's Friday night.
Speaker 1 (18:15):
The little dance floor actually right, it is definitely becoming
a dance floor, and we have a timeout on the floor.
Eleven fifty seven to play first alf Oklahoma nineteen Wisconsin
sixteen from the rail Transport Broadcast Booth. This is Badger
Basketball from rear Field. Group Pub Pizza is a proud

Group Pub Patreon Pizza available now in your local grocery store.
Brian Butch Chris Foster's on hand from Milwaukee. It's Wisconsin
(18:56):
trailing Oklahoma in nineteen to sixteen with eleven to fifty
seven to the exhibition opener. Butchie, I know you don't
like exhibition replay reviews, but what do you think about
exhibition stats?
Speaker 3 (19:07):
I love it overall. You look at kind of where
they're at. They're one of eight with Scott's at one
of eight from three.
Speaker 4 (19:14):
We know they're going to shoot a lot of shots,
but that's kind of what you expect because the game
is sped up than in practice. Yeah, so the game
shots you're getting are a little bit different than the
practice yet, so you've got to work through that. I
think that's the one thing I look at there, just
kind of the one of eight, But that's also an
area big picture.
Speaker 3 (19:33):
Wise, that John Blackwell needs to get better.
Speaker 2 (19:36):
At his freshman year, he shot forty five percent from
three last year thirty two percent. He goes through the
NBA workouts and the feedback is hey more consistent there
and find a way to make sure that you elevate
in that level. That's the one thing. As the scene
goes on. If John Blackwell becomes at forty percent three
point shooter, watch out because now John can drive, We've
(19:57):
seen that already, But how do you guard him if
he's not it down at forty seven percent for three?
Speaker 1 (20:03):
Wisconsin ball in the half court, Nolan Winter on a
feet from Blackwell gets to the racket. He's denied again
by Rogers Boyd with the offensive rebound for Wisconsin, and
Boyd has fouled low block right just the second team
foul on the Sooners and it goes against Nigel Pack
and I'd.
Speaker 2 (20:20):
Really like to see Nolan play with his shoulder through
the contact. Right right now, his shoulders are turning, which
is allowing Ky Rodgers to block that shot. Play with
the shoulder into the chest. Then you can elevate.
Speaker 1 (20:33):
Blackwell underneath on a curl into the lane and he
is fouled by Oklahoma's kowal at Tech.
Speaker 3 (20:41):
And that's being really picky on Nolan right there. But
as you've.
Speaker 2 (20:44):
Seen on the block shots as he goes up, it's
it's a little bit of the turn show the ball
to Kyle Rodgers, and Kyle Rodgers has some really good
length and that's where you look at the block shot
lanked and physicality noticeable for Rodgers.
Speaker 1 (20:58):
Blackwell at the free throw line and he drains the first.
Blackwell was over an eighty one percent foul shooter last
year and to clarify the foul for Oklahoma on Jeff
milwak woh number three.
Speaker 2 (21:11):
So his first in.
Speaker 3 (21:12):
Blackwell goes two for two at the strip, pacing.
Speaker 1 (21:15):
The Badgers with six points here eleven thirty five to
go first half, Wisconsin down by one, nineteen to eighteen.
A little bit of full court pressure for Boyd to
the Badgers, but they sag and pack right over the
Milwaukee Bucks logo at mid court, drifting to is right,
guarded by Carrington. Crossover dribble now right lane line, throws
up a floater two tall off glass rebound tip to
(21:35):
Carrington of Wisconsin.
Speaker 3 (21:37):
Carrington left to right, winter top of the key.
Speaker 1 (21:39):
Boyd left wing, spins on forsythe drives low block left,
missed the bank shot short rebound pack of Oklahoma player falls.
It's niwakuoh for Oklahoma. Back on his feet, pack left
side hand off forsythe left of the circle, picked up
by Carrington. Forsythe knee high dribble around a Rodgers' screen
at the free throw line Forsyth and he hits the
(22:01):
left handed layup on the right.
Speaker 3 (22:02):
Side of the raft A really nice grove for sights.
Speaker 1 (22:06):
First points Oklahoma twenty one eighteen over Wisconsin. Carrington left
wing around a winter screen just inside the arc. Flip
back out to Winter, pass to Boyd top of the key.
Boyd follows the winter screen hook pass Rap right of
the circle.
Speaker 3 (22:19):
Three ball good. Austin Raps got seven.
Speaker 1 (22:25):
And Rap ties the game twenty one, twenty one ten
twenty seven in counting to go first half, Pack to
the top of the key for Oklahoma, picks up his dribble,
finds a tech top of the key, three and Oklahoma
misses its first three point attempt of the game.
Speaker 3 (22:41):
They had been five for five.
Speaker 1 (22:43):
Blackwell drives in the lane fadaway jumper good for John Blackwell.
Speaker 2 (22:47):
Who's got eight.
Speaker 3 (22:48):
And that's what I'm talking about. John's so good at.
Speaker 2 (22:50):
Giving into the pain the first step, get in there,
play strong, playoff two feet.
Speaker 3 (22:54):
That's what he just did.
Speaker 1 (22:56):
Badger fans really excited to see the jump he takes
as an upperclassman.
Speaker 3 (22:59):
This is for site.
Speaker 1 (23:00):
Left side of the lane for Oklahoma. Generates separation on
Carrington and Lance the mid range Jay. Two good buckets
for foresight the sophomore from Dale, Oklahoma, and we're tied
at twenty three, over halfway into the opening half. Wrap
on an entry feed from Winter lays it in in
a restricted circle.
Speaker 2 (23:19):
Badger's lead twenty five twenty three, time out Oklahoma, and
it's just great high low action. Buy Wiscott's. They're to
force the time out.
Speaker 1 (23:29):
Austin rap has really come alive here. Nine points in
the starting lineup for Wisconsin. But he started early.
Speaker 2 (23:38):
He happened, he got going early, cut to the basket,
got some easy buckets, and now the game's coming easier too.
Speaker 3 (23:45):
It sure has.
Speaker 1 (23:47):
Badger Basketball has brought you to seize it by Cleary
Building Corp. Cleary Building, we protect what you value if
is it Clearybuilding dot Com to see the cleary difference
n go first half and just a thirty second time
out for.
Speaker 3 (24:03):
Porter Moser and the Oklahoma Sooners.
Speaker 1 (24:08):
Oser in his fifth season coaching Oklahoma fans so college basketball,
especially in this part of the country, might recognize Porter
Moser's name for the ten year run he had as
the coach of Loyola Chicago. On those final Final four
run they had in twenty eighteen, they went to the
Sweet sixteen.
Speaker 3 (24:25):
Shortly thereafter, and that was when Sister Jean came to fame.
Speaker 2 (24:29):
And rip Sister Jean, who passed away just before this
college basketball season got under way.
Speaker 3 (24:34):
I think she was one hundred and six.
Speaker 2 (24:36):
Yeah, I thought it was one o six. That's a
heck of a life. Heck of a life, one o six.
My goodness, no offense. But I hope I don't live
till one o six. I could barely walk now. How
do you think have a b on one of one
hundred and six? I hope you got a long runway out,
but you got plenty of gas in your tank.
Speaker 1 (24:54):
As we're back to basketball here at Fiser for him,
Oklahoma ball down two wild pass high on the right,
picked up by tear on rate of Oklahoma carded by
Billy Oskis. Let's a three go in his face and
it's short rebound picked up by Hating Jones, the freshman
from New Zealand into the game for the first time
for Wisconsin. Jones with it on the Badger side of
mid court, curling to the right way, he's inside the arc.
(25:15):
Now picks up his triple and throws it away. It
is going to be a backcourt violation. Ball was deflected.
It should not have been a ball.
Speaker 2 (25:23):
It should not have It was deflected and the Badger
shutting stuff on its feet. Yeah, no, as soon as
I said, it should not have been and it's corrected.
So Wisconsin will hang on to the ball. But it's
a sideline inbounds from Wisconsin's defensive side of the floor.
Blackwell has the inbounds tossed from rap and they are
(25:46):
going to I think change the inbounds location of this.
Speaker 3 (25:51):
Porter.
Speaker 1 (25:52):
Moser, Oklahoma stead coach is on the floor right now
demanding an explanation, and now Wisconsin is demanding let the
shot clock be a reset.
Speaker 2 (26:01):
Yeah, because it should be to wear it was touched,
so there should be a couple There should be some
more time on the shock.
Speaker 1 (26:08):
Club right now it's at eleven and that is too short.
Now the referees are gesturing to both benches. Everybody, take
a chill pill. They lost a second. There is what happened,
and the shot clock wasn't that a reset? For what
it's worth now just six on the shot clock, left
wing wrapped for three in and out halfway down and
(26:28):
then a file on Wisconsin underneath in the battle for
the rebound, and it's on Alexis bilioskis his second person.
Speaker 3 (26:39):
That's a second.
Speaker 1 (26:42):
Four twenty five to twenty three Wisconsin eight forty nine
to play opening half Oklahoma ball right to left, Xavier
Brown on the dribble, guarded by Jones of Wisconsin. Mohammed
Wygee with it and he underhands to Brown right elbow
jumper on the rim. A couple of taps loose in
the corner by the Wisconsin bench, Greg guard fleet of
(27:03):
foot to get out of the way with Austin Rapp
running down that rebound short sideline here at five ser forum.
It is Oklahoma ball, however, and they'll get a reset
shot clock.
Speaker 3 (27:14):
Coach must have been getting some workouts and he looked
pretty quick there.
Speaker 1 (27:19):
Alec blaired inbound for Oklahoma, finds Waggie on the left wing.
Now Brown high between the circles, now right of the circle,
back to Blair on the left side. Blair spins at
the free throw line guarded by Janicky. Nifty hesitation move
and it's tipped back in from the low block by Woggee.
Wigee gets the bucket he has foward tied at twenty
(27:40):
five Wisconsin ball eight fourteen to play first half, Blackwell.
Speaker 3 (27:45):
Right of the lane.
Speaker 1 (27:46):
The Alioska's up top Rap now sends it to Jones
left of the circle.
Speaker 3 (27:50):
The Alioska's top side one dribble, Janicky right wing.
Speaker 1 (27:53):
Janicky still on the right wing, pass up top to
Rap who's got nine points.
Speaker 3 (27:58):
Rap left lane line and his foul going to the cop.
Speaker 1 (28:02):
Fuck seven fifty five to play first half Wisconsin twenty
five Oklahoma twenty five from the Rail Transport Broadcast booth.
This is Badger basketball from Learfield, Wisconsin Basketball is brought
to you by Cleary Building.
Speaker 3 (28:20):
We protect what you value.
Speaker 1 (28:21):
Visit clearybuilding dot com to see the clearing difference. With
seven fifty five to play in the first half, Wisconsin
twenty five Oklahoma twenty five Exhibition opener for the Badgers.
Speaker 3 (28:32):
They get one more.
Speaker 1 (28:33):
Tune up against UW Blackvillt and then the regular season
begins against Campbell on November three.
Speaker 2 (28:40):
You asked me at the sixteen minute TV timeout, what impressment?
Speaker 3 (28:45):
It's like, Okay, see it's the field.
Speaker 2 (28:47):
It's but really, when you look at it now another
eight minutes goes by, it's been the way that Austin
rapis played. Yeah, he's been really aggressive. We all knew
he could shoot the ball from three. I mean, he's
a guy shut the ball in an elite level at
poor Man, and you know what he's able to do.
He made eighty three of him as a freshman, so
(29:07):
you knew that. But the ability to put the ball
on the floor, the ability to have a high basketball
IQ and win, to roll to the front of the
rim and make himself get some easy baskets as well,
that's the.
Speaker 3 (29:18):
Thing initially here, I'm really excited about it.
Speaker 1 (29:21):
He just hit two free throws to give him eleven
points for the night and give Wisconsin a twenty seven
to twenty five first athlete seven forty five and counting
to go Oklahoma ball Alec Blair guarded by Rap high
on the right a switch for Wisconsin and Blair drives
left lane line kick out to Darien Raid, paint touch
Raid and he hits the fato a jumper. Reed's got
(29:42):
eight a couple of triples earlier in the half, and
we're tied once again at twenty seven. Now wrap right
of a circle for Wisconsin. Underhand Blackwell to his left.
It's Bilioskis s bounce past Janicki, curls inside the three
point arc baseline left and a kickout to Biliouskis off
the mark. Rebound to Brown in Oklahoma, Brown middle of
the lane, double team and a kickout off top to
(30:05):
Tay Davis top of the arc. Davis now dribbling to
his right, follows the screen by Wagee Reid top of
the key.
Speaker 3 (30:13):
Three For Oklahoma, it's off.
Speaker 1 (30:14):
The rim and the rebound low block left picked up
by Hayden Jones. Blackwell on the move for Wisconsin. He's
cut off by Reid. Now Jones right wing for Wisconsin
up top rap guarded by Alec Blair. One dribble, Blackwell
left wing drives, Reid brings it back outside the art,
re enters the lane. Blackwell finds his sweet spot and
(30:35):
sits another mid range.
Speaker 2 (30:37):
Jay and John did it all last year too, but
getting that paint and then playing off two feet exploding up,
it's been really good.
Speaker 1 (30:46):
Blackwell into double figures for Wisconsin and a foul called
here against Wisconsin Hayden Jones guarding the ball high on
the right in the half court for Oklahoma. Jones picks
up his first and that is Wisconsin's sixth team foul
(31:07):
darline not in the bonus just yet. That is one
thing that is a little bit different about this exhibition game.
The foul a lot that you get six personal fouls
before you are ejected from the game. As Xavier Brown
drives down the right lane line for an easy layup
for Oklahoma, Brown has four and we're tied at twenty
(31:28):
nine with a little over six minutes to go in
the half.
Speaker 3 (31:30):
And that's where will Garlok just gets sealed.
Speaker 2 (31:32):
And as the big, they're in that screaming action when
the other offensive big rolls, you can't get you know,
behind that, so that you get sealed.
Speaker 1 (31:40):
Blackwell, right wing for Wisconsin, faces the hoop, now skips
to his right pocket pass Nolan Winter and he.
Speaker 2 (31:46):
Misses the layup, misses the second chance.
Speaker 1 (31:49):
Too strong, he gathered his own miss. All that for nothing.
It's Oklahoma ball.
Speaker 2 (31:53):
Darien Reid in the lane, a wild shot off the
underside of the backboard, but he picks up a foul
and is going.
Speaker 3 (32:00):
To the line.
Speaker 2 (32:01):
There's Oklahoma's first free throws of the night as well.
Now those are two laps that you know Nolan's got
to make you talk about making the jump from sophomore
year to junior year.
Speaker 3 (32:16):
Those are examples.
Speaker 2 (32:18):
He knows that I end up saying the obvious there obviously,
but just one of those things. Again, you don't make
the lamps, then what happens. It leads Oklahoma in transition,
follow us on Will Garlock, but Garian Reid hits the
first free throws. Head coach Greg Gary told us in
our pregame interview, guys like Nolan Winter and John Blackwell,
they're past halftime in their college careers now, which is
(32:41):
really weird to think about. And I said they're both juniors.
Speaker 1 (32:46):
Great sophomore seasons for both Winter and Blackwell really took
that big leap that you want to see after your
freshman year, and really exciting to see how their junior
year unfolds as Reid hits his second of two free
throws to.
Speaker 2 (32:59):
Give ocala home of thirty one to twenty nine.
Speaker 3 (33:01):
Hitch Nick.
Speaker 1 (33:03):
Boyd on the dribble for Wisconsin, finds Garlock the big
Fellow high on the left underhand. Blackwell high on the left,
Winter on the right side now swings it back to
Garlock the seven footer from Middleton, Wisconsin. Boyd now follows
the Garlock screen left lane line dribble, throws up a
high shot off glass rebound tip back to Boyd, and
(33:23):
he hits it on second effort off glass.
Speaker 3 (33:26):
Low block left.
Speaker 1 (33:28):
That's Boyd's first field goal as a Badger in exhibition
play thirty one thirty one the score.
Speaker 2 (33:33):
But got a little lucky there too, because I don't
know if he established himself with it after coming out
of bounce.
Speaker 3 (33:38):
You're only guilty if you get caught.
Speaker 1 (33:41):
Tay Davis right wing entry feed Kay Rodgers guarded by Garlock.
Freshman on Freshman Rodgers up and under, and he turns
it over on a pass into the new Year corner Blackwell.
The interception feeds Boyd way up on the right side,
too strong Blackwell the.
Speaker 3 (33:55):
Rebound he is fouled. You're only guilty if you get cut.
Is that what you said?
Speaker 2 (34:02):
Just like you driving home right well in a basketball
that I should have said, get him.
Speaker 3 (34:07):
You're only guilty if the ref blows the whistle. Stay
patrol makes you're aware of them going home?
Speaker 2 (34:14):
Just a short drive my parents' house in Brookfield tonight.
Speaker 3 (34:18):
Well, I'll be careful, don't go past that speed limit.
Oh maybe you can give me a ride. No, I'm
you don't want to drive with me?
Speaker 1 (34:28):
Bad Your ball out of the inbounds, Winter swings it
up top to Blackwell. Blackwell drives to the right elbow
short from mid rage. Garlock tips the rebound into the
back court, but it's gobbled up by Xavier Brown of Oklahoma.
Now Nigel packed for the Sooners top of the key,
guarded by Winter. Step back three ball left of the
circle rights out of the rim of Karen's off to
Nick boy boy for Wisconsin up the floor stops left
(34:51):
to the circle.
Speaker 3 (34:52):
Garlock high between the rings.
Speaker 1 (34:53):
Feeds Winter inside walks from behind by Tate Davis of
o U. Sooner's ball snow walk wall with it in
the paint, stripped by Andrew Rodney of Wisconsin. Boyd the
other way for the Badgers. Boy a layup attempt, he
falls off the back iron, but he draws a foul.
Wow turned into a track beat there for a couple
(35:16):
of possessions.
Speaker 2 (35:17):
It did, but again Boyd and his ability just to
continue to attack and attack. The last possession that he
went to the rim, he was looking for the contact.
This last time that he got and ended up at
the free throw line, he wasn't looking for the contact.
He was looking to finish. And that's the difference two times.
(35:37):
Before he goes in there, tries you contact, try to
get cute with it, misses the layup. Wisconsin doesn't get
anything on that possession. This time he doesn't worry about
getting cute. He goes through the body trying to score
the basketball versus looking for the contact.
Speaker 3 (35:50):
He ends up at the free throwing his shooting foul,
so Boyd will get a couple of free throws.
Speaker 1 (35:55):
The next team foul against Oklahoma will put Wisconsin in
the bonus. Four oh eight to play in the first half,
and Boyd trying to give Wisconsin the lead here at
the free throw line. First free throw up, it bounces
on the front rim and then the backboard before dropping in.
Speaker 3 (36:11):
It makes the score thirty two to thirty one. Wisconsin.
Speaker 1 (36:17):
Boyd's second free throw attempt drops in. He's got three
points at the foul line. Tonight five for the game
in Wisconsin up thirty three to thirty one. Nigell Pack
up the far side of the floor, right to left,
number high dribble through the legs top of the key.
Now jump past Ky Rodgers same spot on the floor underhand.
Brown curls right elbow, extended crossover into the paint.
Speaker 3 (36:40):
Kick out, Pack swings it to his right.
Speaker 1 (36:42):
This is no Wakwall Now Rogers a step inside the
arc is bounced past, taken by rapt Boyd on the
dribble middle of the floor, feeds Blackwell one step inside.
Speaker 3 (36:51):
The arc right side Boyd now top of the key.
Speaker 1 (36:54):
Twenty on the shot clock for Wisconsin. Left elbow Boyd
steps outside the arc. Heaves a three misses short off
the rim, but Oklahoma triples it out of bounds. Underneath.
Attack and n' walk Wall got their wires crossed and
it'll be badger ball underneath with a twenty second shocklock
when we come back. You are listening to Wisconsin basketball
(37:17):
from Learfield. Welcome back to fIF SER Forum in Milwaukee,
Wisconsin thirty three Oklahoma thirty one.
Speaker 3 (37:25):
Exhibition play underway.
Speaker 1 (37:27):
As we continue our countdown to the irregular season start
of college basketball, three point thirty one to go. In
the first Wisconsin pased by newcover, Boston Rapp, the sophomore
who transferred in after announced the freshman season at Portland
in the West Coast Conference wrap with eleven, and John Blackwell,
(37:50):
now entering his third season.
Speaker 3 (37:51):
Of basketball at Wisconsin with ten.
Speaker 2 (37:56):
The overall even though you talk about come, you know
Nick Boyd goes oh five points one of seven, but
has been paced.
Speaker 3 (38:04):
That I look at there when you look at points.
Speaker 2 (38:06):
Obviously a lot of fans do, but you can already
see what Nick is gonna.
Speaker 3 (38:10):
Bring to this team as far as this the aggressiveness,
the ability to get to the paint, to the ability
to create for others.
Speaker 2 (38:19):
When you want to play the way that Greg wants
to play by spacing the floor and getting wide open threes,
you need a guy that's going to be able to
break that paint and be in there very quickly.
Speaker 3 (38:29):
Nick can do that.
Speaker 1 (38:31):
Badger basketball underneath Nick boyd baseline left in bounds. He
was looking for Blackwell, but he was knocked over. He
finds Garlock instead, who immediately gives it back to Boyd.
He now has it on the left wing hook past
rap top of the key. Ten on the shock loock
wrap pass outside the arc again to Boyd. Retreats between
the circles. Boyd gar Lock in his face. He follows
(38:52):
the screen. Three on the shotlock, Boyd finds the lane finger.
All good for Nick Boyd. He's got I think, Butcherer
giving me the side eye right now. Well, a guy
that can break the pain and get there when need to,
And I.
Speaker 2 (39:06):
Think that's that's the thing that I'm excited about most
probably with Nick Boyd is is what is he gonna do?
Shot clock end of shot block situations this year Kawal
a tech with the three point answer left of the circle.
Speaker 1 (39:17):
For Oklahoma, and Oklahoma is now down thirty five thirty
four Badger's with one point lead to forty two to
play opening half. Blackwell drives low block left and he
has fouled on his way to the rim. I just
want to go back to that boy possession because he
was a foot outside the top of the key with
(39:39):
three seconds on the shot clock and got a layup
and it starts with the first Stephen when you have
three seconds and you get to the rim, it means
your first step is really quick. And Nick Boyd's first
step is really quick, and that's why he's able to
do that. But I think the biggest thing is again
end of.
Speaker 2 (39:57):
Clock situations where shot clock is running down. In the
game situations, you've got Nick Boyd or John Blackwell at
the pole in the hand to make decisions. I think
you feel very comfortable in that last year. At times
I thought there was a little bit of uncertainty as
far as who was gonna be that guy to take
over those possessions. I think now you have two guys
(40:19):
that you really feel very comfortable in saying, here's the ball,
go make a play.
Speaker 1 (40:25):
Well Blackwell goes one of two at the free throw line.
Wisconsin thirty six, Oklahoma thirty four, two and a half
to go to halftime, kick out into the corner for
Jeff no wakwoh and he splashes a three from just
in front of the Badger's bench on a good pass
from Dayton forsythe and.
Speaker 2 (40:40):
I'm gonna say it again, but short close outs yet
again by Wisconsin.
Speaker 1 (40:44):
Badger ball Andrew Roady left wing, Rody left elbow looking.
Speaker 3 (40:48):
To make a pocket pass.
Speaker 1 (40:49):
It was intercepted by foresight of Oklahoma Xavier Brown at
the free throw line, cut off by Roady Rody, a
rangey dude. Defensively n walk Wo though top of the key,
he rattles in his second straight tray.
Speaker 3 (41:04):
And there's seven eleven.
Speaker 1 (41:05):
Oklahoma is from three Wow sooners by four Yeah boyd
low block left blocked by Waghee, who had a height
advantage Oklahoma. In transition, no walk Wo on a layup attempt,
low block left is fouled by Austin Rapp of Wisconsin.
Speaker 2 (41:21):
He's going to the free throw line. Raps first personal
and so much of college basketball is the three point
line now and Oklahoma sint seven to eleven. I didn't
count the one who's made the raid of twelve now
in Wisconsin two of twelve.
Speaker 1 (41:39):
I mean, you don't necessarily expect the team on the
road in its first and only exhibition game to.
Speaker 3 (41:47):
Just set the net on fire like that.
Speaker 1 (41:49):
As Nowako hits his first free throw, credit Oklahoma shooting
the lights out here. Five serve four that one more
for Milwaukuo, and he hits them both eight points for
Nawakuo and fairly short order here his first three pointer
went down not that long ago. Forty two thirty six.
(42:12):
Oklahoma won thirty seven to go until half time. I
know the you know, forty two points for Oklahoma, twenty
four from the three points one Andrew Rody with an
answer for Wisconsin left, three ball good, Wisconsin's third triple
of the game. Forty two thirty nine Oklahoma Dayton Forsyth
top of the key. No Wako trip.
Speaker 3 (42:34):
Once twice, but it maybe three times four times. Yeah,
I'll give you that. I'm not even I'm not evenna
you see you're wrong on that one. Sure.
Speaker 2 (42:42):
Yeah, it was the shuffle with the Friday night shuffle.
I think, gosh, the Hickey shuffle, the the Ikey shuffle
is right. I feel like we owe a shout out
to Phil Dizzick.
Speaker 3 (42:54):
One, two, three, four. We want more. I know it's
not hockey, but it's travels on Oklahoma. That's how many
we got.
Speaker 1 (43:00):
Nolan Winter top of the key, three balls short and
the rebound picked up by Xavier Brown, right to left,
Brown hands it off to right underneath, who rocks the
rim for Oklahoma. Forty four thirty nine with fifty seconds
to go in the half.
Speaker 3 (43:13):
Definitely did rock the rim.
Speaker 1 (43:15):
It's still shaking down there on the left side. Wisconsin
ball Jack Chanicki working his way to the top of
the arc. Winter high on the right chest pass. Roady
brings it up with the left hand top of the key.
Roady now dribbles down to his right, just off the
free throw line, bounce past Winter, Winter underneath lays it in.
Speaker 2 (43:34):
Now.
Speaker 3 (43:34):
We've seen three passes like that from Roady. Two of
them were deflected for turnovers.
Speaker 2 (43:38):
That one gets through, but you can tell early on
exhibition games, just an example of sometimes trying to figure
out how you can get that path through and how
you can Roady six six nine five. You really see
the length that he brings to the table at the
three position. Xavier Brown from Oklahoma with three seconds to
go in the half, right elbow, fataway jumper.
Speaker 1 (44:01):
I'm gonna remit it drops in. It's kind of according
to plan for Oklahoma. Everything is falling for the Sooners,
whether it's three point tries or contested two pointers, and
that's how the half fans forty six to forty one.
Speaker 3 (44:17):
Oklahoma.
Speaker 2 (44:18):
Yeah, just short clothes off to put Wisconsin. You'll make
the adjustment going to the half. But this is what
you wanted from Expisk, if you wanted to play against
a really good team that was gonna challenge you in
certain ways. Wisconsin's been challenged here. They've done some things
to hurt themselves. But you go back, you you value
and make changes. This is why you're playing these games.
Speaker 1 (44:35):
Badger fans. If you're listening to this right now, it's
time for a reward. Reward you're a full time fandom
with an ice cold modello Medello brude for full time
Badger fans. Our score at the half Oklahoma forty six,
Wisconsin forty one.
Speaker 3 (44:50):
Coming up.
Speaker 1 (44:50):
Our Culver's halftime report. This is Badger basketball from lear
Field from the Rail Transport Broadcast booth. We are ready
for the start of number two Wisconsin and Oklahoma. Brian
Butch and Chris Foster's with you. Oklahoma ball now working
left to right as we see it. And the red
jerseys and shorts, white numbers and letters Wisconsin the opposite,
(45:11):
white jerseys and shorts, white read letters and numbers. Second
half begins with a left handed layup from Oklahoma's Xavier Brown.
He's got six and the Sooners lead by seven right
off the bat Here in the second half, Ali you
Nolan Winter catch in the restricted circle.
Speaker 3 (45:30):
He lays it in on a feed from Austin Rat.
Speaker 1 (45:33):
Great athleticism by Winter to adjust to that pass, and
it's forty eight to forty three Oklahoma, still less than
a minute into half number two, And maybe.
Speaker 2 (45:41):
That gets Nolan a little bit more engaged. Did you
jerk like that under the ball? No, No, I didn't jump.
Speaker 3 (45:48):
Really an athletic, to be honest.
Speaker 2 (45:50):
That was that was athletic by Nolan Winter, for sure.
And you're selling yourself short as well.
Speaker 1 (45:55):
Butchy, here's Mohammed Wage guarded by Winter, low block left,
wild shot skims off the rim and lands out of
bounds baseline right, but last touched by Wisconsin.
Speaker 3 (46:06):
So it's Oklahoma ball.
Speaker 1 (46:08):
Two and a half seconds left on the shot clock.
It looked like that shot as wild as it.
Speaker 3 (46:14):
Was great rim. Yes, and so Oklahoma trying to plead
its case right now. I think it's a case that
has a very good chance to you played.
Speaker 2 (46:28):
They will go to the monitor here and will remind
you that with over thirteen hundred slot machines and a
ninety five percent average payout.
Speaker 3 (46:36):
Hoach Young Gaming Madison is your hometown. Big win.
Speaker 2 (46:39):
Make your next night out a winning one at Hoach
Young Gaming Madison.
Speaker 3 (46:44):
Love exhibition games, don't like reviews. Give exhibition games.
Speaker 2 (46:50):
This is number two in the exhibition replay review category tonight.
Speaker 3 (46:56):
I get it.
Speaker 2 (46:57):
If you're gonna play the game, you're gonna do this.
You might as we'll play it the way I understand.
Speaker 3 (47:02):
Just have it some fun. You gotta make sure you
get it right.
Speaker 2 (47:07):
So the shot cluck has been reset? Yeah, yes, Why
did you just go down there and tell him?
Speaker 3 (47:12):
I should have. They should have looked up here.
Speaker 2 (47:14):
I would have just said resetting, let's go. We didn't
need to review. I guess that's my frustration with all
that stuff like That's that was an obvious that it
hit the ring like it's we saw them from a
here and we did Nosebley Yo, Oklahoma.
Speaker 1 (47:29):
Paul Brown gets it in right wing to Wagee, underhand
back to Brownie brings it out into the half court
with that fresh shot clock for Oklahoma up five. Over
a minute into the second half, Brown cut off high
by Winter, passed down.
Speaker 3 (47:42):
To the left wing.
Speaker 1 (47:44):
Brown gets it back four on the shot clock step
back at the free throw line off the rim, and
Winter's got it for Wisconsin. Badger's a chance to shave
away at this five point deficit. Winter passing Nick Boyd
right wing, Boyd crossover dribble to the right elbow, brings
it back outside the arc with seventeen to shoot. Austin
Rapp high on the left back to Boyd really close
(48:05):
to the half court stripe, skips to the top of
the key right lane line and he hits a reverse
attempt that was blocked underneath Oklahoma Ball Brown for Nigel
Pack left to the circle three and with Boyd trailing
the plate defensively, Pack splashes another three for Oklahoma, and
Oklahoma's nine of thirteen from three and a lot of
(48:27):
those were just short close outs there.
Speaker 3 (48:28):
It was just a situation where Oklahoma had numbers.
Speaker 1 (48:32):
Packs first of the night and it's fifty one forty
three Oklahoma seventeen fifty two to go.
Speaker 3 (48:38):
Second half, John.
Speaker 2 (48:39):
Blackwell with a queen three for Wisconsin, and it was
a mid post touch by rap with the skip. Now,
most times you shouldn't be able to skip it like
that through the defense, but Rapp was able to, and
he was able to hit Blackwell for the three Nigel
Pack left wing, a paint touch a floater on the
rams down for Pack.
Speaker 3 (48:57):
He's got five straight. Yeah, that was that was just
two easy there by Wisconsin's defense. Wisconsin's defense needs to
tighten out.
Speaker 1 (49:04):
Fifty three forty six Oklahoma and a pass to Nolan
Winter in the lane is broken up by Mohammed Waggie.
Speaker 3 (49:10):
But he committed a.
Speaker 2 (49:11):
Foul and I'm laughing because coach guard is on somebody.
I didn't know who he was yelling at, but there
was a strong voice with a lot of pointing to say, hey,
you take care of the paint down there defensively, and
it was my last possession defense.
Speaker 3 (49:27):
Leave Wisconsin way too easy.
Speaker 1 (49:29):
First personal on Wagi. First team followed the half on Oklahoma.
Boyd baseline left in bounds to Winter just inside the arc.
Boyd has it in the corner, jumps a pass to
Winter high on the right. Winter has it in space
and finds Boyd again high on the right in front
of the first row of seats. Boyd in the lane,
left handed layup. Good for Nick Boyd. He's got nine.
Speaker 2 (49:53):
It's amazing left handed point guard wants to go left
just I mean don't amazing, right, keep it why it
might hear you.
Speaker 1 (50:01):
Xavier Brown underneath for Oklahoma misses the layup. Waghee's second
chance in the restricted circle and he has followed and
it goes against Wisconsin s Noolan Winter his second personal
first team follow up the half for the Badgers.
Speaker 2 (50:18):
You know, the other area with this Wisconsin team that
I look at and I evaluate that is somewhat of
a question mark. Is that rim protection and rebounding. And
right now it's nineteen rebounds to nineteen rebounds. I think
the Bigs that played robant, So where is that physicality
(50:38):
and where is that rebounding to really dominate the point?
Does this frontcourt have that ability to dominate? Definitely something
to keep an eye on. As Woagghee at the free
throw line goes one for two. Now I say that
and talk about that, but I mean Nolan Winter also
(50:59):
had a seventeen rebound the game fors Michigan State last year.
Mode You know what I mean though, But it's just
one of those things as you evaluate the way that
the broster is built. Now, do they have enough of that?
I lean towards yes, But it's something I want to
watch as a season.
Speaker 1 (51:13):
You know, Congenus Blackwell on the dribble, free throw line,
jump or block by Wagee picked up by Nigel Pack
left to right for Oklahoma. Xavier Brown left wing back
to Pack, who can hit the three, doesn't pull the trigger,
Now puts his head down to the free throw line.
Kick out Darien Reid near corner, brings it in on
Austin Rapt backing him down mid post. Now up and
(51:35):
under with the left hand, a nice hesitation move for
an easy finish for Reid. Fifty six forty eight Oklahoma.
A dozen for Reid and Blackwell on the ball, past
to Winter left to the circle.
Speaker 3 (51:46):
Three ball Nolan airball.
Speaker 2 (51:48):
Just has not looked like himself. Probably the best way
of putting it there.
Speaker 3 (51:57):
Look the stuff slowan Golan has just hasn't looked smooth.
I guess it is probably another way of putting it.
Three of eleven from the floor Nolan Winter.
Speaker 1 (52:08):
Six points four rebounds for the big man entering his
junior campaign. Oklahoma ball Xavier Brown walks it up the
length of the floor. His sooner's on top of the
Badgers fifty six forty eight Brown for Ky Rodgers, back
to Brown on an underhand top of the key, Brown,
tracing the three point arc to his left, throws it
in the lane, high and wide of Ky Rodgers.
Speaker 3 (52:30):
It's out of bounds.
Speaker 1 (52:31):
Wisconsin ball fifteen fifty two to go in the second
half and Oklahoma leads Wisconsin fifty six forty eight.
Speaker 3 (52:41):
From the rail broadcast booth.
Speaker 1 (52:43):
This is Badger basketball from Learfield, sponsor of Wisconsin Athletics,
and reminds everyone to save big money on all your
home improvement needs at monards. Oklahoma fifty six Wisconsin forty eight,
fifteen fifty two to play. Second half and the Sooners
I think Brian want this game to count, shooting sixty
(53:03):
two percent from the four, sixty nine percent from three
point range, nine of thirteen, and you know, Wisconsin not
ice cold by any stretch, although they are just four
of sixteen from deep.
Speaker 3 (53:15):
But Sooners are filling it up well.
Speaker 2 (53:18):
The Sooners might want it to count, but I tell
you who else wants to count the players when you're
shooting nine that percentage?
Speaker 3 (53:23):
The dally good as far as the statue go too
lat same players, aren't you know, just playing for stats?
Speaker 1 (53:31):
Though would never say, of course, it's just the icing
on the key exactly Wisconsin ball down eight. John Blackwell
right to left for Wisconsin, pass to Jack Jennicky on
the left wing, follows a rap screen who rolls to
the basket. Biliowski is top of the key, swings it
to Bryden Carrington. Carrington, tracing the arc wrap left of
the circle, tend to shoot Janicky three ball left wing,
(53:54):
good for Jack Jennicky the left handed and.
Speaker 3 (53:58):
Oklahoma goes under that ball.
Speaker 2 (54:00):
That side ball scrited because of that, Jack Jenicky's wide open.
I gotta get used to number five for Jack Jencks,
not number thirty three.
Speaker 1 (54:07):
He played every game last season for Wisconsin wearing number
thirty three. Wearing number five now Kawala Tech for Oklahoma.
Speaker 3 (54:15):
Nearly threw it away.
Speaker 1 (54:16):
It's picked up by brown top side now down low
Rogers low block left, no one home.
Speaker 3 (54:21):
He slams it through with two hands.
Speaker 2 (54:23):
And you know, we've sitt a lot with the exhibition games,
like the weak side's got to be pulled over, and
they'll Greg is gonna harp on that because those are
the ones you can't give. Fifty eight to fifty one
Oklahoma Wisconsin ball Janicky, same spot, left wing, three this
time it rims out, Darian Reid skies for the rebound.
Speaker 3 (54:40):
Reid brings the.
Speaker 1 (54:41):
Ball up the floor for Oklahoma under hand Xavier Brown
guarded closely by Jack Jenicky.
Speaker 3 (54:47):
You'd almost pried the ball free.
Speaker 1 (54:48):
Brown now picked up by Blackwell back from a tech,
Brown left hel bowl extended with fourteen to shoot outside
the ark now drifting to his right. Brown a lot
of ball handling right now, all a little stuck left
elbow jumper.
Speaker 2 (55:03):
Brown makes it count. You know, it was such a
great defensive possession. Three different players guarded Brown and he
just made it and it was just better offense. But
I mean, really good individual defense by three different Badgers.
Speaker 3 (55:16):
On that possession. Ten points for Brown.
Speaker 2 (55:18):
The oulaite is nine fourteen oh six to play second
half and a foul called.
Speaker 1 (55:27):
A trip and as a matter of fact, it goes
on Kowal a tech of Oklahoma foul occurrent in the
green paint. Remember we're playing at Feisser for him in
the Milwaukee Bucks home court is down right now, that's
(55:47):
the first personal on a tech.
Speaker 2 (55:49):
You know. Here's the thing with nine new players as well.
Something I picked up on Great Guard still is a
towel substitution guy right where you take the towel, you
hand it to the player going in for that didn't
have that possession. So it just it's little weird things
like that that just take time to culture. We saw
it doing the YouTube things. Nick Boyd as coach guard,
why do we take our jerseys? And well, I've just
(56:09):
been doing it since you've been boring, like since I
first got here. It just little things like that that
take time.
Speaker 1 (56:15):
Jack Janicki a three ball from his favorite spot on
the left wing and rattles in and out. Oklahoma ball
dating Forsyth with a pass ahead. Now a drive in
the lane by Tate Davis, and it's taken away by Wisconsin.
Good defense by the Badgers. Nick Boyd on the left
wing for Wisconsin, picks up his dribble and finds Janicky
(56:36):
near corner. Janicky spins away on Brown outside the ark
now looking for Garlock on an entry feed. It comes
from Billyolskis instead Garlock lowblock right and he chunks the
bank shot. It's Oklahoma ball in transition. Now Brown opened
for three left of the circle. It's short Rebrown Carrington
of Wisconsin.
Speaker 2 (56:57):
Garlic just didn't have a good base and we don't
have a good bases a big and you try to.
Speaker 3 (57:01):
Go up and explode, you usually miss layouts.
Speaker 2 (57:03):
Boyd hooks it past to Biliowskis, top of the key.
Speaker 3 (57:06):
Three for Alexis.
Speaker 2 (57:07):
Biliaskis is second of the games. Again, he's shown that
ability to spread the floor space the floor.
Speaker 1 (57:17):
Six point lead for Oklahoma their ball twelve forty three
in counting second half, Dayton Forsyth right elbow jump stop,
fade away, short rebound in the lane. Biliowskis, he feeds
Boyd Boyd right to left right of a circle. Now
Boyd pointing for his spot. Garlock sets the screen. Boyd
centers right lane line, brings it to the short corner
(57:38):
and finds Carrington outside the arc. Biliouskis swing past Janicki
left wing up top Garlock and it goes Biliowskis one
hand catch pass batted away out of bounce by Xavier Brown.
Speaker 3 (57:50):
Nine on the shot clock. It's Wisconsin ball.
Speaker 2 (57:53):
Biliouskis does a good job of ceiling there and then
because of that, now all of a sudden he's got
the missman throws it in.
Speaker 3 (58:01):
The Only thing I'd like to see him do a
little bit better there is stay connected.
Speaker 2 (58:05):
When you stay connected, it doesn't allow that card when
you've got that mismatch to come around and knock the
ball away from.
Speaker 1 (58:12):
Boyd the trigger man standing on the Milwaukee script baseline right,
and Wisconsin calls a timeout. Badger fans choose chill and
celebrate responsibly. Twenty one meets twenty one course light Choose chill,
twenty twenty five Cours Brewing Company, Golden Colorado. That is
(58:34):
going to become a full time out taken by Wisconsin,
and we will step aside. Sixty to fifty four, Oklahoma
leads the Badgers twelve sixteen to play in the second half.
This is Badger basketball from Glearfield Badger Fans. Today's game
is brought to you by the official products of Wisconsin Athletics, sproopub,
lots of ops of pizza, clements, Bronzon hot dogs, Old Dutch.
Speaker 3 (58:57):
Chips, and PEPSI on Wisconsin.
Speaker 2 (59:01):
Don't think I'm missing anything from a delicious meal there whichie,
Although that pretzel you.
Speaker 3 (59:06):
Had probably phenomenal, that was a corn's great. I gotta
have to get a fox yet.
Speaker 2 (59:10):
A foxcorn top was a little steel out of a
rating and probably I'll give.
Speaker 3 (59:16):
It a seven out of ten. That's not bad for
exhibit no exhibition. But now five have had their opening tip.
So I was wondering maybe this might have been left
all left goars game. I don't know.
Speaker 1 (59:26):
Well, it's Wisconsin ball fresh or stale popcorn. Badgers have
it with just four on the shocklock. Now Carrington right
wing has.
Speaker 3 (59:33):
To let it go.
Speaker 1 (59:34):
Any hits free ball from Braid and Carrington his first
points of the game.
Speaker 2 (59:39):
Well, and that's when you're able to go get a
guy that's had experience play at the University of Minnesota
play it at Tulsa just understands time, score situation, and
Oklahoma turns it over in the lane.
Speaker 1 (59:52):
Tay Davis had it stripped and then just a three
car pile up for it in the green painted area,
both teams pointing either way. A jump ball is called
to leave the possession arrow pointing two Wisconsin.
Speaker 3 (01:00:08):
Either way. With eleven forty eight to play in.
Speaker 1 (01:00:12):
The second half, we remind you that our broadcast today
is brought to you by Rail Transport for every mile
of your truck driving career.
Speaker 3 (01:00:20):

Speaker 1 (01:00:23):
Jobs sixty two fifty seven. Oklahoma's league cut to three,
eleven forty eight to play. This is Badger Basketball from Laarfield.
UW Health Sports Medicine is a proud sponsor at Badger
Men's Basketball, the healthcare team for the Badgers, and proud
sponsors of UW Athletics.
Speaker 3 (01:00:43):
Eleven forty eight to go.
Speaker 1 (01:00:44):
Second half it's Oklahoma sixty Wisconsin fifty seven. First of
two preseason games for Wisconsin before the regular season tips
off on November three. This is the only exhibition tune
up for the Sooners, and they're making it count. Still
shooting fifty nine percent from the floor, and they're nine
of fourteen from three point range sixty four point three percent.
Speaker 2 (01:01:07):
Puchi, Yeah, And I think one of the things again,
it started with some you know, short closeouts as I call,
where Wisconsin didn't close out the way that they necessarily should.
Speaker 3 (01:01:16):
And because of that, you give a team some confidence.
I don't care who it is, and this time I
have to over Oklahoma. And then they're shooting more. So
they are shooting more Wisconsin trying to change that.
Speaker 1 (01:01:29):
It's Nick Boyd on the dribble right to left for
the Badgers and the home Whites drifting down high on
the right now finds Biliowskis underhand past Blackwell, curls down
the right lane line, Blackwell spinning on Data City traffic.
Speaker 3 (01:01:42):
Don't he did.
Speaker 2 (01:01:44):
Greg wants a file there. But I think a lot
of that contact we've seen this last year with John.
John creates a lot of contact as well, So he's
really hard to officiate.
Speaker 3 (01:01:54):
As far as how does he handle that? What do
you necessarily do?
Speaker 1 (01:01:58):
A good size for a car at six four two
oh three, But he dragged his pivot foot there and
it's Oklahoma ball. Daton Forsyth high on the left and
a whistle. Boy Forsyth was dribbling that ball three feet
over half court and the foul occurred underneath the basket.
(01:02:19):
Fowl is on Carrington of Wisconsin his first and it's
Oklahoma ball. Nigel packed with a sideline inbounds down to
our right. Pack finds Waggee underhand Forsyth at the top
of the key, guarded by Boyd of Wisconsin. Forsyth left
lane line now just outside the paint. He pivots and
(01:02:41):
finds Waggee outside the arc.
Speaker 3 (01:02:44):
Pack with it tend to shoot.
Speaker 1 (01:02:45):
Pack step back on Carrington into the lane, pivot foot
down shots away shots good and a foul called as well.
Speaker 2 (01:02:53):
Pack does a really good job of using a ball
fake to create some more space, and he used one
more fit to get Carrington up in the air and
because of that, that's where the contact comes. And so
that's where you just you have to stay down. You
can't leave your feet, and it's really.
Speaker 3 (01:03:10):
Tough to do.
Speaker 2 (01:03:10):
But Carrenton's a guy that's an above average defender, Like
he's got to bring that defensive intensity to this team
when his number is called. And that's just again exhibition playing,
getting used to it, but understand that that intensity level
needs to be brought up a little bit.
Speaker 3 (01:03:29):
Package the free throw.
Speaker 1 (01:03:30):
All eight of his points here in the second half
lead his six for Oklahoma with eleven zero six to play. Blackwell,
drifting from his right to his left as he crosses
half court on the Blackfi surf doc Forum logo, Boyd
has it now high on the right for Wisconsin, finds
the free throw line and draws the foul speed for
Nick Boyd, putting pressure on the Oklahoma defense.
Speaker 2 (01:03:53):
And when you're going against a lough Candon point gud,
you're trying to make him go right. Nick Boyd is
so quick with that first step that it's really tough to,
you know, force him to go right in there, because
that first step is him going left, and it's just
it's tough on top of the defensively, you don't necessarily
(01:04:13):
guard a lot of the lefties.
Speaker 1 (01:04:15):
Winter has the ball on the inbound feed from Boyd
gets it back to Nick High on the right, work
in the dribble with his right hand around a Winter
screen just on the arc step back three right side off.
Speaker 3 (01:04:25):
The front of the rim. Alec Blair the rebound for ou.
Speaker 1 (01:04:28):
He pushes the tempo pass ahead to tay Davis, kickout
Foresight far corner three off the rim, and pat it
into the backcourt by Wagee second chance Oklahoma pack a
three from the top of the key. He is scalding
hot right now pack with eleven sixty six to fifty
seven Oklahoma. Blackwell brings it outside the arc far side
(01:04:51):
top of the key.
Speaker 3 (01:04:52):
Winter passed to his left.
Speaker 1 (01:04:53):
It's Boyd on the wing and he is fouled by
Dayton Forsyth of Oklahoma seven first personal on Foresight.
Speaker 2 (01:05:04):
Yeah, and that's where Foresight needs to get gift some space.
And I think as the scatter report comes out more
and more. Nick Boyd, you're going to want to give
some space, so he's going to be able to have
to hit some open threes because they're not gonna live that.
Speaker 1 (01:05:18):
When I pass insided Nolan Winter on the inbounds feed
from Boyd, slam Tunk had a foul Nolan Winter with
a chance at a three point play.
Speaker 2 (01:05:28):
And they were just running a simple screening action between
Blackwell and Nolan Winter. Nolan realizes that Oklahoma jumps at
because Oklahoma jumps and he's able to slip. And I
say it a lot, but when you cut to the
front of the rim, good things Happenings happened.
Speaker 1 (01:05:44):
A right duly noted well, Winter's got eight and a
chance for nine, which would match his season average from
last year. Short on the free throw attempt, he's still
at eight, but the Badgers trail now sixty six fifty nine,
approaching the ten minute mark. In the second half, Pack
with Rody on his six, throws up a runner in
(01:06:05):
the lane. It's short, rebound, loose and Pack finds it
short corner right brings it outside the arc with a
fresh twenty right wing Pack back to John Blackwell. He
kicks it out up top to Forsyth, tend to shoot.
Forsyth right at.
Speaker 2 (01:06:19):
The circle offensive foul ballwn Oklahoma.
Speaker 3 (01:06:22):
And why do I love that so much?
Speaker 2 (01:06:24):
It's because Nick Boyd is starting to understand what the
expectations of guarding the ball screen are. At Wisconsin. You've
got to fight over it. You've got to continue to
be aggressive with them, not saying they didn't do that
at San Diego State where he was at. I mean,
we know how good of a defensive team they are
at San Diego State, but just that's the way you
have to guard it.
Speaker 3 (01:06:43):
Here.
Speaker 1 (01:06:45):
This is Blackwell right of the circle of three, ball
off the rim, loose baseline. Winter jumps to save it,
but Blair picks it up from Oklahoma and he is fouled.
Back of an effort by Nolan Winter to try and
save the possession, but it went to Oklahoma's Alec Blair
and he was fouled. Fourteen foul goes on Austin wrap
(01:07:06):
his second to team's fourth. Forsyth then bounce it from
the Badger's side of the floor, pack cross his half
court for Oklahoma. Now Waggy top of the circle, dribble
hand off to forsythe left lane. Line turns and the
jump shot falls off the back of the rim. Rebound
(01:07:27):
to Boyd sprints up the sideline far side, wrap right
of the circle, deep three off the front rim Blackwell
the rebound inside second try John Blackwell and rolls.
Speaker 3 (01:07:38):
Around and it's took back in by Nolan Winter.
Speaker 1 (01:07:41):
Bucket is good for Wisconsin and the Oklahoma league cut
to five. Great job by Nolan Winter to make sure
that was off the cylinder as well. Now read for Oklahoma.
This is the jump shot in the lane.
Speaker 2 (01:07:56):
Read rather wrap the box out and the rebound for Wisconsin.
Speaker 3 (01:08:00):
Now Boyd cuts in the lane from the right wing.
His shot is.
Speaker 1 (01:08:05):
Knocked out of bounds and it stays with Wisconsin underneath
twenty one on the shot clock.
Speaker 3 (01:08:12):
Great hi Rogers. He turns to Oklahoma.
Speaker 1 (01:08:17):
I'll back a little bit of pressure on Oklahoma here
eight forty one to play in the second and the
Wisconsin Department of Transportation reminds you to always drive sober
zero in Wisconsin. Together we can save lives. Learn more
at zero in Wisconsin dot gov. Boyd flips it into
Blackwell left of the circle, top of the keynow for
(01:08:38):
wrap right of the circle, fakes a pass.
Speaker 2 (01:08:40):
Let's it cry, it's the three. Austin rapped with fourteen
for his first bucket of the second half. Crowd on
its feed and five serve for him. The lead cut
to two for Oklahoma. Sixty six sixty four, eight eighteen
to play. Joe pack Top of the Key works his
(01:09:02):
way in the lane on Roddy step back Jay off
the Mark Blackwell the rebound on the right side. Boyd
up the floor back to John Blackwell outside the lane,
but inside the arc.
Speaker 1 (01:09:14):
He flips it out to boy top of the Key.
Boyd works to the left elbow, now in the green paint,
lost the handle and a.
Speaker 3 (01:09:22):
Foul is called on Oklahoma.
Speaker 1 (01:09:26):
Seven fifty five to play in the game and Wisconsin
turning up the intensity. Sixty six sixty four Badgers will
have bonus free throws when we come back from the
rail broadcast booth in Milwaukee.
Speaker 3 (01:09:40):
This is Badger basketball from wear Field.
Speaker 1 (01:09:43):
It's tip a spotlight Today's best in the game, brought
to you by Old Dominion Freightline. Old Dominion Freightline works
hard to be the best in the game and is
proud to be the official freight.
Speaker 2 (01:09:53):
Carrier of Wisconsin Athletics. When a spotlight as PACIFICA. I
think it's awesome rapping as far as the way that
he came out played early on in the first half,
just banged a big time three. That was his first
bucket in the second half. So we'll see with seven
fifty five left if he can kind of continue that momentum.
But the way that he came out that first half
(01:10:13):
and just kind of let the game come to him,
he's he caught.
Speaker 1 (01:10:16):
My eye early on wrapping. Blackwell the co leaders in
points for Wisconsin with fourteen. In fact, along with Daryon
Reid of Oklahoma, that would be a game high fourteen.
Speaker 2 (01:10:29):
And I think with this Wisconsin team, you're going to
see a lot of different guys be leading scores. It
seems like there's a lot of balance on this team
as far as guys that can have a Knight, whether
it be Nolan Winter, John Blackwell, Austin Rap you know,
and nick Boy Boy, Like, I mean, there's gonna be
enough opportunities. I truly believe in it. But Nick Boy
(01:10:52):
just hit two free throws and we have a tie game,
and boy kind of amping up the crowd here.
Speaker 1 (01:11:00):
He's adjusting quickly to life as a Wisconsin Badger sixty six,
all under eight minutes to play. Top of the keys
head You're Brown for Oklahoma boy the headed his face
Brown retreats to the logo.
Speaker 2 (01:11:12):
Now dribbles down to the right wing. Rogers top of
the key, avoids.
Speaker 1 (01:11:16):
The dribble hand off and a contested pass held on
to Bynwakwa on the left wing for ou three on
the shot clock, and No Wakwall was fouled.
Speaker 3 (01:11:29):
And I don't know where the foule was. It was
on the opposite side of where we're sitting.
Speaker 2 (01:11:33):
But both Nolan Winter and John Blackwell were on the ball,
and I wonder if they just got a little hands.
Blackwell picks up the personal not a shooting foul. No,
it's not a shooting fowl. But that's exactly what happened.
Seeing the replay, John got got his hand right on
the jersey and you can't get hands in that situation.
Speaker 3 (01:11:53):
Fresh shot clock for Oklahoma pack right wing.
Speaker 1 (01:11:56):
Three balls on the way off the heel rebound picked
up by Plahoma Darian Reid's got it left of the lane.
Now Mi Wonkwa with it as wrap falls down. Mi
Wauqua watches at three. It misses badly. It hit the
net and nothing else. There's nothing but net, nothing but net,
but not the kind you want. I means below the rim,
but it was nothing but net. It's Wisconsin ball half
(01:12:18):
court offense. Nick Boyd top of the key around a
Winter screen, left lane line, alley up on the way
and Winter tried his best to throw it down.
Speaker 2 (01:12:27):
The pass was off target. It hit the backboard, but
a follow was called on Oklahoma. Yeah, and that's been
a couple of times where Wisconsin has been able to
go get a lob, but there's been a guard because
of switch right, Oklahoma's switching them and because that switch,
there's a guard that ends up on the big But
as a guard, you're taught to sit in the lap
(01:12:49):
of the leaper, but their pack is on the hip,
and as Nolan goes up, because he's on the hip,
he pushes Nolan, but Nolan's got to convert the frequent.
Speaker 3 (01:12:57):
This is the first front of the of the one on.
Speaker 1 (01:12:59):
One short again and we remain tied at sixty six
six forty six to play second half, Roger sets a
high screen for Brown drives left lane line for oh
you left the layoff short but true to foul contact underneath.
Speaker 3 (01:13:16):
Foul is on Boyd of Wisconsin his third. Yeah, I
did love that foul call. I don't know if there's
a whole.
Speaker 2 (01:13:23):
Lot there, but I'll say this, when you get out
of position, when you get out of position, you leave
yourself open to a five.
Speaker 3 (01:13:33):
That just okay.
Speaker 2 (01:13:34):
But I didn't think there was a lot there. I'm
just I'm giving it out to the officials. What I'm doing,
I'm being nice to him. It's early conce October twenty
it's October twenty fourth.
Speaker 3 (01:13:46):
They don't need to get yelled at this early.
Speaker 1 (01:13:49):
Xavier Brown misses the front end of two free throws,
but he hits the second.
Speaker 3 (01:13:53):
Brown's got nine and it snaps the tie.
Speaker 1 (01:13:56):
Sixty seven sixty six, Oklahoma six point thirty four. In
running to play boyd free throw line, No one there
left handed layout Nick Boyd, He's got a Baker's doesn't.
Wisconsin's got the lead. Sixty eight sixty seven time out
order Moser at Oklahoma.
Speaker 3 (01:14:20):
It's a thirty second time out.
Speaker 1 (01:14:23):
We'll keep it here and remind you that horsepower amplifies
your willpower capability, kit starts your courage. Their standard and
built Ford tough Ford trucks and adventure ready Ford SUVs.
Visit your Wisconsin Ford store today.
Speaker 2 (01:14:42):
Built for tough, I'll tell you what Wisconsin's playing, Built
Ford tough.
Speaker 3 (01:14:49):
They've responded, right, and you got a punch.
Speaker 2 (01:14:50):
How do you respond? Like that's why actually keep saying this,
But that's why you play exhibitionickn. You want to see
how your team responds. If this doesn't count as far
as other win laws call, but you want to see
who responds. Want to say who's playing well under tough situations?
If your grig with six twenty five left, did it being.
Speaker 3 (01:15:10):
A one point game?
Speaker 2 (01:15:13):
Kind of what you want sure like to play in
the exhibition game where now all of a sudden, tight game,
crunch situations, we've gotta get stops, We've got to execute,
like this is all you're asking for in this exhibition types.
Speaker 3 (01:15:27):
You know, scenario eleven to.
Speaker 1 (01:15:30):
One run for the Badgers over the last three point
fifty three at game time, all you ball Xavier Brown
top of the key open right in the circle for
three and he trains in communicated.
Speaker 2 (01:15:41):
And Roady and Boy don't communicate the ball screen coverage
because of that bang.
Speaker 1 (01:15:50):
Three Oklahoma eleven of nineteen from three point range. Tonight,
Wisconsin ball down two. Austin Rapp in the lane throws
up a runner off glass raybound loose wrap. He got
it at the free throw line, recycles to Boyd three
ball too strong from up top, and Blackwell comes up
with the offensive rebound in the lane and he.
Speaker 3 (01:16:09):
Draws the foul.
Speaker 2 (01:16:10):
I can't tell you how many times last year John
Blackwell had rebounds like that to win a game for Wisconsin.
Speaker 3 (01:16:18):
It was remarkable.
Speaker 1 (01:16:21):
Blackwell, and outstanding rebounding guard, averaged over five per game
last season four Wisconsin. And tonight, he's got four rebounds
and he's at the free throw line.
Speaker 3 (01:16:33):
Shooting two with a chance to tie.
Speaker 1 (01:16:35):
He hits the first and the lead now just won
for Oklahoma, seventy to sixty nine. The foul was on
Xavier Brown, by the way, his second, and Blackwell hits
them both fifteen for John and we're tied at seventy.
Speaker 3 (01:17:00):
Hey gets sixteen for John Blackwell.
Speaker 1 (01:17:03):
Oklahoma ball right elbow, Brown up top, Pack guarded by
Boyd five and a half to play. Pack lost his footing,
but he flipped it to Brown right wing to save
the possession. Brown to his left top of the key
six to shoot right lane line drive, follow a shot
too strong and a foul underneath a loose ball foul
(01:17:25):
on Wisconsin, it's on John Blackwell, in fact number two
on Blackwell seven. Both teams in the bonus here with
five to nineteen to play. Mohammed Waghee, the senior Alabama
transfer guy with Final four experience, is at the free
(01:17:46):
throw line.
Speaker 3 (01:17:49):
How about staying in conference?
Speaker 2 (01:17:50):
Yeah, transferring into Alabama to Oklahoma, that's the craziest thing.
The transfer thing is nuts by itself, but the transfer
with the conference.
Speaker 3 (01:18:01):
It's it's it's the it's got to be crazy for
the player.
Speaker 2 (01:18:09):
I mean, and if you look at you know, Brendon
Carrington for wiscons to play that water or play that
till Minnesota now playing for wiscons like that. It's not
like those two teams like each other. Right, it's just
gotta be weird. And it's just the day and age
where where it's a it's a transactional world for sure.
(01:18:30):
You know Oklahoma four.
Speaker 1 (01:18:31):
Of their five starters our first year players in the program.
Waggie hits both free throws. Oklahoma leads seventy two seventy.
You know, Wisconsin You've got two familiar faces in your
starting line up, John Blackwell, Nolan Winter.
Speaker 3 (01:18:47):
It feels like you've got a lot of returning experience.
Well in expectations.
Speaker 1 (01:18:52):
Andrew Roadi on the dribble, kick out top side, Nick
Boyd for three rattles out loose ball underneath Darian Raid
has it tiptoeing the end line and he stays alive
with it. Finds Xavier Brown, who jogs the ball left
to right.
Speaker 3 (01:19:06):
Brown with some wiggle up top. Biliowskis steps out on him.
Speaker 1 (01:19:10):
Reid back to Brown up top one foot on the
cream end green Milwaukee Bucks logo at mid court. Brown
brings it down to the left wing, guarded by Rap
six to shoot. Brown lets it fly with a hand
in his face and the ball dies on the rim,
falls off Wisconsin ball. Chance to tire or take the
lead for the Badger's late Boyd slashes to the left
(01:19:32):
elbow Rody one arm passed back and forth from rap
now on the left wing Boyd Boyd left wing hook
past Biliowski's top of the key. Three short long rebound
at the free throw line to Brown of Oklahoma sprints
down the floor, lay up good Xavier Brown he has
fourteen seventy four seventy Oklahoma with four minutes.
Speaker 2 (01:19:55):
To go, and when you shoot threes, you have all rebounds.
That is an example of that, and that's what Hope
Holme was able to get out go. You got to
make sure you have transition defense set.
Speaker 3 (01:20:03):
Up and then a hand of the passing lane.
Speaker 1 (01:20:06):
Jeff Nowakwell the steal the uncontested tunk the other way,
and that forces great card to call a time out.
He's pointing to a lot of dudes on the bench
to get in the game. We'll have some substitutions for
Wisconsin when we return. For now, it's Oklahoma seventy six,
Wisconsin seventy with three forty eight to play in the game,
(01:20:27):
We'll take a time out. This is Badger Basketball Fromlearfield
Hochuk Gaming, Wisconsin. Dell's the best place for growing up entertainment,
games and fun times.
Speaker 3 (01:20:40):
Your odds are better here.
Speaker 1 (01:20:42):
A six to zero run for Oklahoma gives the Sooners
a seventy six seventy advantage with three forty eight to
go in the second half. And I think back to
a point you just made, Butchy now a chance an
exhibition play kind of like bonus time to just see
how this team with newcomers handles a tight game late
(01:21:04):
trying to come from behind. Who is on the ball late,
who comes up with the big defensive stops. This is
it's a great test for Wisconsin.
Speaker 3 (01:21:12):
But if you're if you're Greig, that's that's all you
that's all you're asking for them.
Speaker 2 (01:21:16):
I think the Platfow game there's a place for that
with the guard against cancer and everything that they're that
Greig has built with that, it's final.
Speaker 3 (01:21:25):
But I'm gonna be kind of honest year not being
that Platow. But how much do you get? Be sure?
How much do you learn?
Speaker 2 (01:21:33):
They're gonna learn a lot in the next three forty
eight as far as how that helps win games. They
go to BYU, they got a possibility over the things
give Craig possibly play Florida, Like, there's a lot of
teak in the non conference. They're gonna play Marquette, So
there's a lot of things in teams that they're gonna
play that they have to learn from taking out in Oklahoma.
Speaker 1 (01:21:53):
Sooners team that made the NCAA Tournament last year, lost
to Yukon in the first round.
Speaker 3 (01:21:59):
Sixty seven Fnine, Like.
Speaker 1 (01:22:02):
Many rosters across college basketball, a lot of newcomers in Norman,
but to still a quality team out of the SEC.
Testing the Badgers in exhibition play, John Blackwell with a
nifty pass to Nolan Winter. Nolan gets it back to
John Wright of the circle and John drives contested, layup,
blocked underneath, rebound on the deck and Forsyth has it
(01:22:23):
for Oklahoma. He finds Xavier Brown with a team high
sixteen points, and Brown back to Forsyth just across the timeline.
Oklahoma more than content to slow the tempo here up
six with a little over three minutes to play, Forsyth
has its tripped to the lane, it's taken away by
the Badgers, and Boyd is fouled by Oklahoma's Mohammed Waghee.
Speaker 3 (01:22:46):
Up the floor.
Speaker 2 (01:22:48):
I'm just not a smart foul. That's there's a turnal
turrear head sprint back.
Speaker 3 (01:22:59):
Don't pick up file there you're you were up by six,
big boy man.
Speaker 2 (01:23:05):
But that's all supposed to the experience of mcboy to understand, Okay,
there's someone buying him go and to can you drive
into him.
Speaker 3 (01:23:12):
Let's see if I can get some extra points at
the free throwing Boy. The first one rattles out.
Speaker 1 (01:23:18):
Boy now five of seven at the free throw line today,
he's got thirteen points. Has not found his jump shot really,
especially from long range. He's zero for five. But you
see the speed on display and the ways he can
impact the game. Boy makes good on the second free throw,
three to zero, three to play, seventy six seventy.
Speaker 3 (01:23:40):
One Oklahoma.
Speaker 2 (01:23:44):
And Nigel Pack jogs the ball across mid court, guarded
by Roady Pack left.
Speaker 1 (01:23:49):
Wing, throws up a wild pass cross corn. It's intercepted
by Rap Now Boyd right to left, step in the lane,
hits the lap reverse from left to right.
Speaker 2 (01:23:59):
That's a three point lead now for Oklahoma. Back to
back turnovers there by Oklahoma.
Speaker 1 (01:24:07):
Crowd engaged once again inside the forum. Harrian Reid with
it and it's stripped and Boyd makes a play on it.
Last touch by Oklahoma out of bounds being torn Wisconsin,
Paul Boyd amping the crowd up once again.
Speaker 2 (01:24:26):
Well you love, you love the response here defensively down
by six, you get three straight turnovers now it's a
three point game.
Speaker 3 (01:24:35):
Can convert on this possession.
Speaker 1 (01:24:38):
Three turnovers in a minute twenty for Oklahoma Badger's with
life down three Boyd topside around the winter screen corner
pocket Roady for three off the rim, No good rebound,
Waggie of Oklahoma.
Speaker 3 (01:24:52):
Great, look great, I mean, that's all you can ask for.
He's you know, Rody's just got to knock that down.
But everything you wanted.
Speaker 1 (01:25:00):
Now it's Brown low block right now on the baseline
left side with it. Brown curls back into the lane
and a foul is called on Wisconsin's.
Speaker 3 (01:25:10):
Roady Wisconsin seven, and that is Rody's first.
Speaker 2 (01:25:18):
Yeah, tough one there a little bit, but that's where
if Rody plays with the body versus a reach. I
still don't think there's a lot there on that call.
But if you're there in your positioning wise body, maybe
it doesn't allow to drive there and by by Brown
and then all of a sudden, now, all of a sudden,
you got a chance where it's a you know, he
has to pass it away.
Speaker 1 (01:25:41):
Brown at the free throw line for Oklahoma, where he
has won for two tonight, exactly two minutes to go
in the game, and Brown hits the first of a
bonus situation seventeen points for Brown, who had a tremendous
season at Saint Joseph's last year in the Atlantic ten,
he was first team All Conference and had a single
(01:26:05):
season program record eighty nine point seven.
Speaker 3 (01:26:08):
Percent free throw shooting percentage.
Speaker 2 (01:26:09):
So he makes them both there, no surprise, and the
lead is five for Oklahoma. Yeah, only has Baldwin, John
Tonzo Will higher awfully impressive, John Tanjay name Will resonate
with Bacher fans. John Blackwell with it now left wing
guarded by Waggee, spins on Waggee jump shotting the lane
good for John Blackwell.
Speaker 1 (01:26:31):
Eighteen for Blackwell. Seventy eight to seventy five Oklahoma. The
lead of the basketball. We're down to ninety seconds to play,
doesn't much feel like an exhibition game. Right now is
Brown left elbow out to Waggee. Brown resets top of
the key, drives right side, this time off last two
(01:26:51):
strong Blackwell the rebound for Wisconsin. He brings it up
the floor right to left. Austin rapped for three top
side go who are tied at seventy eight. Get all
started with the defensive possession, but no.
Speaker 3 (01:27:09):
Austin Roun tie out on the floor with a buck
three to go. And I say it all started with
the defensive possession.
Speaker 2 (01:27:17):
We look at Oklahoma, Brown has been an ISO player
all game one. Really, what he's done at Saint Joe's
just that's the way he wants to play. Wisconsin, Lonach
guard it as five got the stop.
Speaker 3 (01:27:30):
Then they're pushing with great pace. And as they're coming
down and playing with great.
Speaker 2 (01:27:35):
Pace, what usually happens is when you push quickly, that
defense gets sucked in. The defense gets sucked in. That's
where a trail big is able to come through Austin rap.
As the trail big is following in, he's wide open.
It buries that three. But if you don't guard at
an elite level on that end, especially against an ISO player,
(01:27:56):
you aren't gonna get opportunities for trail threes.
Speaker 3 (01:28:01):
Trail sense.
Speaker 2 (01:28:02):
That's a lot of That's a lot of basketball talk
for October twenty four.
Speaker 3 (01:28:06):
I was bad with great breakdown.
Speaker 1 (01:28:08):
I'm absorbing that and also letting our fans know that
are broadcasting that He's brought to you by rail Transport
for every.
Speaker 3 (01:28:15):
Mile of your truck driving career. Learn more at rail
dot jobs.
Speaker 2 (01:28:21):
The truck drivers aren't driving too fast. Watch this badge
of basketball teams. You wouldn't been, but it's the pace
at which Wisconsin has played at that's changed.
Speaker 3 (01:28:29):
And obviously has talked about.
Speaker 2 (01:28:31):
But that last possession you guard, you push your trails open.
It's a thing if I might know a little bit
about a trail free. I don't know anything about being
in the athlete or rebounding or playing Detravaleu aluops, no, no, no,
it's only allops. I know about dinosaurs, a you know
those sorts three Like I'm reading Alleu books, but it's
(01:28:52):
about a dinosaur. I am nothing about an lu dumb.
But when you do that, it allows that to happen
and now kill Wisconsin guards seventy eight to seventy with
one O three left.
Speaker 3 (01:29:02):
Can they guard the.
Speaker 2 (01:29:03):
Set from Oklahoma as porter and moser you know draw
It takes that time up to draw up play both.
Speaker 1 (01:29:10):
Teams with one time off remaining one O three to go,
seventy eight all Xavier Brown, the inbounder for Oklahoma, find
squad the top of the team right back to Brown.
Speaker 3 (01:29:19):
He'll set up the offense.
Speaker 1 (01:29:21):
Brown right in the circle, brings it back out guarded
by the six to ten Austin raft Brown just off
the free throw line. This is the seventeen footer rebound
loose on Gee hasn't underneath he this is the refirst
but a foul is called on Nick Boyd of Wisconsin.
Speaker 2 (01:29:38):
And we talked about a lot. That last possession prior
to this one was ISO. What did Oklahoma get there?
ISO for Brown? Yet again, you've gotta clean up the boards.
I said, that was one of the things that I'm
looking at with this Wisconsin team is can they be
elite on the boards or is that come between the
area that you.
Speaker 3 (01:29:56):
Look at saying how does it handle? Because the Big
ten has a lot bigs in it this year.
Speaker 2 (01:30:01):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:30:02):
So Waggie at the free throw line hits the first
forty seven seconds to go and Oklahoma takes a seventy
nine seventy eight league And I know that's.
Speaker 2 (01:30:11):
A big pitcher conversation, but sure, but we're in an
exhibition game. That's something that you have to look at.
Speaker 1 (01:30:18):
Waggie hits his second free throw the senior with nine
for Oklahoma and the lead is two for the Sooners
with forty two seconds in running to play Boyd at
the free throw line and it goes to Winter threw
his hands and out of bounds.
Speaker 3 (01:30:32):
The pass was a little bit behind him.
Speaker 1 (01:30:34):
It so a Wisconsin turnover with thirty seven seconds left
down too.
Speaker 3 (01:30:38):
A little behind and the space he was a little tighter.
He'll work that out. You know the chemistry between Boyd
and Winter there, Yes, Yeah, And I think that's just
one of those things that you need to play more.
And you know that's why you play. That's why you
play against Oklahoma. Full court.
Speaker 2 (01:31:00):
Sure for Wisconsin. Nigel Pack dribbling on Andrew Roadie across
half court.
Speaker 1 (01:31:05):
Now Pack in the corner on the left side, eighteen
on the shot clock, twenty four seconds to go in
the game. Pack dribbling with the right hand, knee high
top of the key, drifting to his right, cuts it
back to the left elbow.
Speaker 3 (01:31:18):
Jumper on the way and good for Nigel Pack. That's cold.
Speaker 1 (01:31:22):
Fourteen seconds left, Wisconsin down four. Boyd races down the floor,
stripped in the lane, out of bounds. No foul off Oklahoma.
It stays with Wisconsin with ten ticks left down eighty
two seventy eight.
Speaker 3 (01:31:37):
Jeck did like to push there.
Speaker 2 (01:31:38):
Obviously it looked like there was hand on balls, so
you know, out of bounds, but you want to attack
quick here down by four, you Okay, with a two,
we want to three.
Speaker 3 (01:31:50):
I think whatever's there, you can get it. Two.
Speaker 2 (01:31:52):
Still with ten, I think it gives you a chance
to file, exend the game a little bit, do some
stuff to make sure that you're practicing. Again, we're in
an exhibition mark, so it's you want to try to
get as many raps as possible, so get the best shot.
Speaker 3 (01:32:08):
Timeout called again ten seconds to play.
Speaker 1 (01:32:13):
We were tied at seventy eight, and Oklahoma has scored
four straight to lead eighty.
Speaker 3 (01:32:17):
Two seventy eight. And it started with the offense arena.
That's when the first two game.
Speaker 1 (01:32:26):
This is the eleventh time Wisconsin and Oklahoma have met
in basketball. It's actually a series that goes back longer
than you might expect, all the way back to the forties,
and funny dumb, Oklahoma actually has a two to one
record against Wisconsin in this in the Badger State, even
(01:32:47):
though Wisconsin leads the all time series six to four.
Speaker 3 (01:32:51):
Now here's my question.
Speaker 2 (01:32:53):
Does an exhibition count when it cutle to so when
it comes to the SIDS and the World Sports Information Directors?
Speaker 3 (01:33:03):
I think maybe it would be included in A. J.
Harrison's notes, but with an asterisk okay, okay, I would agree.
I would agree, And as.
Speaker 2 (01:33:11):
You can tell with Scott's down by four, we're having
some fun with this as well, because that's what this is.
Speaker 3 (01:33:16):
If if I've sitt it, I feel like I've sitt.
Speaker 2 (01:33:19):
It a lot here. But really there, if you're great
coach guard, you want a game like this, like this,
you couldn't have asked for anything better.
Speaker 3 (01:33:29):
Obviously to win, you know, I mean that, hell, but
like close game at six minutes. It was close, So
you had six minutes where you needed to execute or
you needed.
Speaker 2 (01:33:39):
To respond to a run by Oklahoma, and you did,
and then it's a tie game and you know there's
thirty seconds left and your guard, but you don't rebound. Well,
it ain't Phil, You're gonna see, we got to close
out a possession.
Speaker 3 (01:33:54):
We got to make sure we get that rebound.
Speaker 2 (01:33:56):
Those are all valuable things on October twenty four. They're
not valuable if they happen against BYU in a really
important game when it counts. I guess it's always valuable,
but it hurts.
Speaker 3 (01:34:09):
A lot more.
Speaker 2 (01:34:09):
I'm sure that that's probably a better way of saying
it hurts a lot more against BYU than it does
against Oklahoma.
Speaker 1 (01:34:16):
Right now, Nick Boyd inbounds baseline, left out of the timeout,
looking in the lane for Blackwell, catch Blackwell, gotta hurry
seven seconds free throw like fade away good for John Blackwell.
There are six seconds to go now and it's eighty
two eighty oklahoma'sle cut to two in a timeout called.
Speaker 2 (01:34:39):
It was a timeout taken by Wisconsin. So now both
teams are out of timeouts. Well, what I love is
again you get a rep now here at six point one.
As far as what needs to happen to extitute in
these situations, the Greek does this all the time to practice,
but none of these fans are there in practice. They
(01:35:00):
environment is completely different. You get this now in a
in a gay red and that's always that value and that.
Speaker 3 (01:35:08):
You don't like. There's there's no number on what that
does to when.
Speaker 2 (01:35:12):
The real good time a tough shot by John Blackwell
there had he's he's gonna be.
Speaker 3 (01:35:18):
I mean, yeah, you know, and and you know, we
talked about big picture stuff.
Speaker 2 (01:35:23):
I've liked what I've seen, like the couple of things
that do come up is like, you know, the ability
for John to really improve that three point shot.
Speaker 3 (01:35:32):
You know he's one of four.
Speaker 2 (01:35:33):
And then I think those sorts of things are as
the season goes on, things you watch to say, this
team could be elked if you get you know, John
Blackwell to shoot forty plus from three. This team could
be elked if they dominate the glasses.
Speaker 3 (01:35:49):
I mean, those are the things that I look at.
Speaker 2 (01:35:53):
That really are gonna separate this team through the long bawl,
as far as winning a Big Ten championship, making a
deep running the nca A tournament, and.
Speaker 3 (01:36:01):
That stuff will all change and a little more because
the season goes on.
Speaker 2 (01:36:05):
But for yeah, those were those are five couple of
questions like what what does that look like? And I'd
say rebound in the basketball still have a little bit
of a question mark there. I think John Blackwell shoot
the ball from three. Wiket more dad on that to
see how that plays out as well.
Speaker 3 (01:36:22):
It's Oklahoma ball on their end of the floor.
Speaker 1 (01:36:26):
And this almost looks like a wide receiver formation in
football right now, Dayton foresight to get it in.
Speaker 3 (01:36:34):
Everyone running a route right now.
Speaker 1 (01:36:35):
It goes into Nigel Pack just outside of the lane,
a close range pass and with five point four seconds left,
Andrew Roady commits the foul for Wisconsin. So two free
throws coming up for Pack with Oklahoma. Well, I guess, actually,
Oklahoma is not in the double bonus yet.
Speaker 3 (01:36:55):
Okay, now they are.
Speaker 1 (01:36:56):
Correction, that was the tenth foul on Wisconsin. Two free throws.
No matter what for Nigel Pack.
Speaker 3 (01:37:03):
For the ser they'll get two shots.
Speaker 1 (01:37:09):
Pack has been good thirteen points all in the second half,
limited to just nine games last season as a Miami
Hurricane before injury curtailed the rest of his season. He
hits the first free throw there and the next one
is the one that really counts because it can make
it a four point lead for Oklahoma with just five
(01:37:30):
point four seconds left. Pack was eighty three percent of
the free throw line last year, but again in only
nine games. Second one's up and through for Nigel Pack.
Both teams out of timeouts five point four seconds left,
eighty four point eighty.
Speaker 3 (01:37:49):
Oklahoma scored in the sus.
Speaker 1 (01:37:54):
Into Nick Boyd across half court with three Boyd three
ball right side good for Nick Boyd. With three tenths
of a second left, Brown looks to inbound. He gets
it in a heads up play by Xavier Brown, scurrying
to rush the inbound before Wisconsin could settle defensively, he
found Mohammed Wagi who just needed to touch the ball, and.
Speaker 3 (01:38:19):
Time expires. The game is over.
Speaker 1 (01:38:22):
But how about this eighty four, eighty three Oklahoma beats
Wisconsin in an exhibition nail bighter.
Speaker 2 (01:38:30):
That was a really entertaining game. Yeah, I think you,
like you said, it's the number one entertaining. But I
think Greg learns a lot about his team in this environment,
which is fantastic. And now there's some things to clean up,
there's some things to really look at and say, hey,
we did this well. Those conversations you have for another week.
You still have one more exhibition game in there against
(01:38:52):
Flaville that allows you to kind of fix up some
of those things and then tip that thing off November third,
and let's go.
Speaker 3 (01:38:59):
Let's go.
Speaker 2 (01:39:00):
And I think that's the exciting. The excitement that happens
with this is you have the ability to have some
very valuable teaching points that can happen from this game
that we haven't really seen. You know, when Greg first
got here was athletes in action in DA Sports. Those
were the those were your exhibition games, right, so these
(01:39:21):
are the games. Well, times have changed, But also what
you get from those games have changed, and I think
that's the beautiful thing. That's the beautiful thing about it
is you know what you've got, you win it against
another you know, power five team, power four team, power five, power.
Speaker 3 (01:39:38):
Four also along the lines of things have changed.
Speaker 2 (01:39:40):
Exactly power four team. But but it's a great way
of seeing where you're at. It's there's nothing bad that
comes to this.
Speaker 1 (01:39:50):
Definitely not a fun way to continue to move forward
to opening tip off on a new college basketball season.
Oklahoma bites out Wisconsin eighty four eighty three. The final
here at five Serve Forum in Milwaukee. We'll be back
with the Wisconsin Ford Dealers postgame show. This is Badger
(01:40:11):
Basketball from lear Field. Yes, this is the Badgers postgame show,
brought to you by your local Wisconsin Ford Dealers. In
exhibition play, Oklahoma knocks off Wisconsin eighty four to eighty three,
a game that got very close down the stretch. Wisconsin
(01:40:31):
at one point rattled off eleven of twelve points to
tie the game. Late, Oklahoma went on a mini six
to zero run, led seventy six to seventy at one point.
We then found ourselves tied at seventy eight. Late in
the game and Oklahoma largely through a couple of timely rebounds,
and they were also good at the free throw line tonight, knocked.
Speaker 3 (01:40:54):
Down some free throws late.
Speaker 2 (01:40:55):
They led eighty four to eighty With five seconds left,
wiscon and was able to drain a three ball by
Nick Boyd with just three tenths of a second left
and just ran out of time to try and get.
Speaker 1 (01:41:07):
The ball back, and Oklahoma wins eighty four to eighty three.
Again Broughd pfiser for him in downtown Milwaukee. The Badgers
will actually be back here during the regular season, not
to take on Marquette that game will take place at
the Cole Center this year, but to take on Villanova
out of the Big East on December nineteenth, so Wisconsin
(01:41:29):
will get another chance to have a.
Speaker 3 (01:41:31):
Home crowd here in Milwaukee.
Speaker 1 (01:41:33):
Always nice to see Badger Nation turnout in the state's
largest city again.
Speaker 3 (01:41:39):
Eighty four eighty three.
Speaker 1 (01:41:41):
The final scots and I had taken a look at
the box score. The Badgers were led in scoring by
John Blackwell, the junior, with twenty points on seven to
fourteen shooting. He tacked on five rebounds and three assists
as well. Nick Boyd hit his only three pointer of
the game at the very end of the contest and
finished with nineteen points on six of seventeen shooting.
Speaker 3 (01:42:04):
He also had six rebounds and three assists.
Speaker 2 (01:42:08):
Austin Rapp had a really impressive performance for Wisconsin. Again,
you won't call it his Badger debut just yet, it's
still exhibition, but rapped with seventeen points on six and
eleven shooting. He drained three threes and also had six
rebounds and three assists. Nolan Winter also reached double figures
four Wisconsin tonight. He had ten points on five of
(01:42:30):
thirteen shooting, five rebounds, and a helper also getting in
the box score in the point column tonight. Alexis biliouskis
the big man from Lithuania who's got a really good
three point stroke. He had two of those tonight, finished
with six points three rebounds, ran into a little bit
of foul trouble, had three of those and only finished
(01:42:51):
with thirteen minutes of four time. Andrew Roady had five
points on two of five shooting, four assists. Brayden Carrington
had three points. He made his only three pointer his
only field goal as well of the game. Also had
two rebounds, and Jack Janicki had a triple. He finishes
with three points in thirteen minutes.
Speaker 1 (01:43:11):
On the evening, the Badger shoot forty three and a
half percent from the floor, ten of thirty one from
three point range. That's good for thirty two point three percent,
and they go thirteen of eighteen at the foul line.
That's seventy two point two percent. Worth noting that the
Badgers shooting numbers from the floor and from three point
range were better in the second half than they were
(01:43:34):
in the first. Oklahoma was led in scoring by point
guard Xavier Brown, who finishes with eighteen points, four rebounds,
and five assists. He was clutched late, handles the ball
a lot shot seven to fifteen from the floor. Nigel
Pack also came up with some big points late for
Oklahoma in their one point win. He finishes with fifteen points,
(01:43:56):
five rebounds in two assists. All fifteen of his points
scored in the second half. Darien Reid with fourteen points
for Oklahoma. Jeff Nawaukwo with ten. That rounds out the
double digit scorers for Oklahoma, but they got contributions up
and down the lineup Kawala Tech with nine points, Muhammed
Juaghee with nine points, Dayton Forsyth with four points, Tay
(01:44:20):
Davis with three points, and Kai Rodgers, the native of Wawatosa, Wisconsin,
played three years of high school ball at Tosa West.
He finishes with two points, made his only shot from
the floor. Sooners were red hot in the game, especially
in the first half.
Speaker 2 (01:44:37):
They finish shooting just under fifty two percent from the
floor and fifty five percent.
Speaker 1 (01:44:43):
From three point range. They shot eleven of twenty from deep,
especially in the second half. The free throw shooting for
Oklahoma really made a difference. They looked like the Badgers
quite frankly at the free throw line, very very good,
fifteen of seventeen for the game eighty eight point two
percent eighty four eighty three the final. Oklahoma with a
(01:45:04):
one point win over Wisconsin. Badgers will be back on
the court to take on UW plattvill for their.
Speaker 3 (01:45:11):
Final game of exhibition play.
Speaker 1 (01:45:14):
Our Wisconsin Ford Dealers postgame show continues after this break.
Speaker 2 (01:45:18):
This is Badger basketball from dear Field.
Speaker 1 (01:45:20):
Still filing out here of five Serve Forum and into
the Deer District.
Speaker 3 (01:45:25):
Just outside.
Speaker 1 (01:45:25):
There was a great Badger tailgate in the area right
outside the Milwaukee Bucks home arena before and Badger fans
really excited about this upcoming college basketball season. Wisconsin number
twenty four in the preseason poll. They follow to Oklahoma
tonight eighty four eighty three in a very close exhibition game,
(01:45:46):
and in a game that was really close from wire
to wire, Oklahoma never led by more than nine points.
Speaker 3 (01:45:52):
In this game. Wisconsin's largest lead was just six.
Speaker 2 (01:45:56):
There were lots of ties, lots of lead changes, especially
in the final six minutes of this game, and as
my broadcast partner Brian Busch pointed out, invaluable really experience
for Wisconsin to have in an atmosphere with very low stakes.
You get to play a quality opponent in Oklahoma, and
you get to perhaps make.
Speaker 3 (01:46:16):
Some learning mistakes that don't end up in your season.
Speaker 1 (01:46:20):
Ledger, so, Wisconsin with a lot to take from this
showdown against an Oklahoma team out of the SEC.
Speaker 3 (01:46:26):
And it's an Oklahoma team.
Speaker 1 (01:46:28):
Quite frankly that I bet many of the personnel on
Oklahoma's staff don't really know much about The Sooners lost
all five starters from their NCAA Tournament last run.
Speaker 3 (01:46:40):
Last season.
Speaker 2 (01:46:41):
They were bounced by Yukon in the first round so
NCAA tournament season. I should say the Sooners only have
two players on the roster this year that saw regular
court time last year, so it is a new look
Oklahoma team as well that has a chance to be
pretty good. They brought in a four player transfer class
(01:47:02):
rank sixth in the country. So all that to say,
Wisconsin was not playing a pushover here in exhibition play,
and Oklahoma shot the ball very well eleven of twenty
from three point range in the game. Oklahoma also out
rebounds Wisconsin thirty six to thirty three.
Speaker 1 (01:47:22):
Butchy was talking about the battle on the glass all
night long. It was closed, but it goes Oklahoma's way tonight.
Oklahoma also with eight blocks to Wisconsin's one. Wisconsin had
the edge in assists fifteen to thirteen. They also had
ten steals on the Sooners to Oklahoma's four. A really
fun way to start the exhibition slate here in Milwaukee.
Speaker 3 (01:47:45):
Eighty four eighty three the final.
Speaker 1 (01:47:47):
Oklahoma edges out Wisconsin in the eleventh meeting between the
Sooners and the Badgers in basketball. When we continue, we'll
check out the TDS out of town scoreboard. This is
Badger basketball from lear Field Welcome back to five, sir Forum.
(01:48:07):
Our postgame show continues. Wisconsin falls to Oklahoma tonight eighty
four to eighty three, and we will continue on this
Wisconsin for Dealers postgame show with the TDS out of
town scoreboard. Some really compelling exhibition games across the country
all October.
Speaker 3 (01:48:26):
This was something that Brian and I talked about at halftime.
Speaker 1 (01:48:29):
You're seeing more really marquee matchups, you know, Power four
teams playing each other in exhibition season. Kind of an
interesting turn for the sport and one that we certainly welcome.
It's good to get these big brand schools playing each
other really anytime on the calendar, so tonight as well,
(01:48:50):
just tonight alone.
Speaker 3 (01:48:51):
Listen to some of these names.
Speaker 2 (01:48:52):
North Carolina at BYU, Kansas at Louisville, Villanova at Virginia
De Paul on the road in South Bend, taking on
Notre Dame, Perdue at Kentucky, Kansas State at Missouri, Utah
at Oregon.
Speaker 3 (01:49:08):
This is just tonight to go along with an already.
Speaker 1 (01:49:11):
Robust slate of top tier exhibition showdowns, so that has
suddenly become in vogue in college basketball. Coaches want to
see how their teams look against other big name programs,
especially with the way that rosters turnover with the transfer
portal being what it is. Still, of course, with space
(01:49:36):
for freshmen out of high school, G League players are
eligible to compete, More and more players from the international
scene are coming over to play NCAA college basketball.
Speaker 3 (01:49:47):
So hey, we're here for it.
Speaker 1 (01:49:49):
Wisconsin, Oklahoma, if they want to play every preseason college
basketball season, sign us up, especially if the games are
as good as this eighty four eighty three Wisconsin over
Oklahoma the final. That's our TDS out of town scoreboard.
More of our Wisconsin Ford Dealers postgame show is coming up.
Speaker 2 (01:50:09):
This is Badger.
Speaker 1 (01:50:10):
Basketball from rear Field Serve Forum in Madison. Final score
of this exhibition tilt between Oklahoma and Wisconsin Sooners eighty
four Wisconsin eighty three.
Speaker 3 (01:50:22):
Very close game.
Speaker 1 (01:50:24):
At the risk of calling myself out, in the previous
postgame show segment, we ran through the TDS out of
town scoreboard and it was really more of the TDS
out of town matchup board instead of scores. It is
a little bit tougher, even with all these great matchups,
to track down scores from preseason in college basketball in
(01:50:44):
one concise location still working on that even through a
prompt into chat GPT, and didn't come up with much. However,
one notable score to just.
Speaker 2 (01:50:55):
Backtrack for you a little bit, Kentucky in exhibition off
Perdue seventy eight to sixty five. Significant because of course
it's two blue blood programs, but also Perdue the preseason
number one team in the country this year, and according
to some reports on X Perdue run out of the
(01:51:15):
gym end quote by Kentucky down the stretch in that game.
So seventy eight sixty five the Wildcats again certainly not
a pushover knock off Perdue, the number one team in
the country preseason in preseason play, so you just never
know these exhibition games what they mean as far as
forecasting ahead to the regular season. But Brian Butcher did
(01:51:39):
a good job keeping things on the here and now
and in the present.
Speaker 1 (01:51:42):
It just offers either the team that wins or the
team that loses, a chance to get some good film,
a chance to run the floor against another good program
wearing a different colored jersey, just some valuable learning experience
and data gathering kind of finding mission, if you will,
for Wisconsin tonight. And they even though they come up
(01:52:07):
on the wrong side of that eighty four to eighty
three score. Have a lot to work on heading towards
the start of the regular season. All right, we have
some postgame audio that my intrepid broadcast partner Brian Busch
was able to track down from Wisconsin head coach Greg Guard,
So we will play that for you now. Head coach
(01:52:27):
of the Wisconsin Badgers, Greg Guard with his postgame thoughts
from tonight's exhibition game.
Speaker 2 (01:52:32):
Coaching eighty four eighty three lost to Oklahoma. Well, what
are your takeaways? Just as you know, the first exhibition game,
first time you got to see your guys, you know,
against somebody else.
Speaker 5 (01:52:43):
I think this was really good for us. I mean
this other than you know, your final score. We saw
a lot, got a lot exposed, a lot of things
that we aren't good enough at. I think the newness
of guys not necessarily you know, in a Wisconsin jersey,
but they can the connections that we didn't have defensive
but we had a lot of mistakes, a lot of
(01:53:04):
switches that didn't get covered. There's just a lot of
things we can learn from and that's exactly what we
needed to have for tonight. And that's what I wanted
to show some things and show where we have to
get better. That's the exciting part. It's not about where
we are what we it's where this group isn't right
now that has me the most excited. And as specific
on the defensive end, it's something we've talked about from
day one, is a defensive identity and we got it late.
(01:53:27):
But we got it too late. So it's a great
learning experience for us. It you know, quite frankly, couldn't
have turned out almost any better in terms of how
we can use this to really grow well.
Speaker 2 (01:53:37):
And you guys are talking, you talked about that and
you're down six. You get three straight turnovers, like just
having to have the answer, being able to play together,
find ways to you know, find that connectivity to make
the right play. A lot of that just you know,
watching it, having it play out kind of you know
John Blackwell, you know, finding a way to bring guys along.
Speaker 3 (01:53:57):
How nice is it to have him know what the
standard is and be able to be vocal about that. Yeah,
I mean he's organizing guys in the huddle.
Speaker 5 (01:54:04):
You know, it's the first time we've sat down on
chairs like that and not not in a practice setting.
So there's you know, so many things that were first
for even.
Speaker 2 (01:54:12):
Gonna make sure we get the towel exchange right though,
code I mean that we had we had a turnover
on the towel exchange during the exhibition game.
Speaker 3 (01:54:18):
But I was, I was going crazy.
Speaker 5 (01:54:20):
They they're so excited to go in they forget the
towel in a lot of nerves. But no, I think,
like I said, it's exactly what you want out of it.
You want to see uh areas that you have to
get better at. It's so much better than playing a
team where you just roll, you know, roll them, or
you have even even the close scrimmages are nice, but
it's you don't have the game pressure, maybe with a
(01:54:41):
crowd and those type of things. And obviously in this
type of an arena, and you know, you get a
you get a high major opponent that you know, I
think we'll have a good year, and you know when
we have to adjust when guys bang a couple of
threes that maybe hadn't made a three in their career.
Now we have to adjust. So it's those things that
you only get better by going through it. And you
(01:55:03):
know we'll learn from this and break the tape down,
and they're they're excited about what we can be because
we're we're nowhere near.
Speaker 3 (01:55:11):
Nor should we be.
Speaker 5 (01:55:12):
I would, I would really be nervous if we were
at where we could be and had to hit our potential.
We're we're a long long ways. But it's October and
that's that's we're in a good place.
Speaker 2 (01:55:22):
Hey, you look at this and last one I've got
for you here, coach, But you see a lot of things.
Speaker 3 (01:55:27):
Correct that.
Speaker 2 (01:55:28):
That's the first thing as a coach normally that's what
you say. But what did you like as far as
what you saw too?
Speaker 3 (01:55:34):
Well?
Speaker 5 (01:55:34):
We took I thought for the most part we had
a couple key turnovers. But for the most part, for
a game this early, a lot of times it can
get sloppy and we have a lot of you know,
have turnovers and seven which I thought was pretty good.
You know, I thought we got better at handling the
ball screens. You know, you got some newer guys in there.
And when do you switch it, when do you not?
When do you hedge it? When do you not?
Speaker 2 (01:55:56):
In some of the.
Speaker 5 (01:55:57):
Exchanges where we we exchange, but we've got to go
to the guy that we left, So just things like
that that have to happen through an experience like this
where you learn and now we'll see ourselves on film
tomorrow and you don't go back to work on the
floor tomorrow and get.
Speaker 3 (01:56:14):
Better from it. All right, thanks so much, coach. We
appreciate it. Thank you, maud Our.
Speaker 1 (01:56:18):
Thanks to Brian Butch and of course head coach Greg
Guard of the Wisconsin Badgers sharing his thoughts postgame after
the eighty four eighty three loss for the Badgers to
Oklahoma and exhibition play
