Speaker 1 (00:00):
Good evening from the call center in Madison, alongside Brian Butch,
our engineer, Dave McCann, and Aishah Jackson back of the
network studio. This is Matt Lepey. We welcome you to
Wisconsin basketball exhibition matchup tonight against UW River Falls, the
eighth annual Cancer Awareness Game here this evening as well.

(00:21):
Before we get things started, let's first pause ten seconds
for station identification, ten for an ID. This is Badger
Basketball from lear Field and basketball exhibition game River Falls
getting ready for its season, the Badgers for theirs. But
it's about things bigger than basketball. If you've caught the
pregame show, if you didn't, we'll tell you. You know
Greg guard I and Michelle they've done great work with

(00:43):
the Guarding Against Cancer initiative. This is the Cancer Awareness game,
and you know it's nine years ago today where Greg
watched his father to cancer. So it's one of those
days that hits a little extra hard as you would imagine.
We've all probably you'll be the statistics tell us, but most,
if not all, of us, of those of you listening

(01:05):
and have dealt with it in your family. But man,
what a what great work that Greg and Michelle and
all the generous people here in the state of Wisconsin
have done to raise awareness and raise money to help
the doctors fight this.

Speaker 2 (01:19):
You know, it's in a one hundred to be the
head coach of University of Wisconsin, right coachesn't a bunch,
but then to use that platform and help out There's
not many people do it the way that coach Guard
does it throughout it at the country and tonight it's
a great example of that.

Speaker 3 (01:34):
They could have gone and scheduled another team.

Speaker 2 (01:36):
We've seen it throughout where you know, you're playing another
Division one team and you're going against it. But the
coach feels how strong it is to be able to
play UW River Falls and we act other schools to
be able to you know, continue to raise money for
this great cause that he's continued to trying to fight.
We're trying to find a way to beat it. We've
all been unpacked, yeah, and how do you how do
you beat it? He just keeps trying to find way

(01:58):
to try to create you know, research and different opportunities
to beat cancer.

Speaker 1 (02:01):
And you know, with when bow Ryan was here wanted
to have these games against WIAC opponents, obviously, Bowl and
Greg and so many others will with are forever attached
to that league, and it's it's a good league, you know,
it's it might be Division three, but it's really good.
They're really good basketball. So they know what they want

(02:22):
to do with River Falls. The Badgers know what they're
trying to get done. So let's just see why the
foles here over the next couple of hours.

Speaker 3 (02:28):
I think that's a beautiful thing about it is you
talk about.

Speaker 2 (02:30):
Division three level here in the state of Wisconsin. You've
got parks.

Speaker 1 (02:33):
How that's it.

Speaker 2 (02:34):
There's only one, there's only one D two schools, because
that means the rest of the basketball comes right back
to D three level and again should be a great
you know, opportunity for the Badges, a great.

Speaker 3 (02:45):
Opportunity for ver Falls.

Speaker 1 (02:47):
All right, we are about set to go Wisconsin and UW.
River Falls or a Walton, Amy Bonner and Anthony Burris
are your officials Badgers and the home white cardinal trim
where's UW. River Falls makes us onto the Coal Center
floor as well? Is we settle in. It's here Butcher
College basketball at long last.

Speaker 3 (03:08):
And always delivers. You just got to pay attention to it.

Speaker 1 (03:11):
It does, It just does, and they're playing those highlight
clips and then the intro and a lot of a
lot of really fun moments. Last year for this team
didn't finish the way they wanted We all know that.
But only one team finishes the way it really wants to.
But they were back at the NCAA tournament and now
some unknowns, new faces. Let's see how long it takes

(03:33):
to gel and how well they jell.

Speaker 2 (03:34):
And these guys are just excited to play. Get somebody else.
They've been playing against each other way too much. Yes,
they had the secret scrimmage, but here's another opportunity to
go get somebody else. There's black guys, there's outvote, there's
all of it. Let me go get somebody different than
my teammates.

Speaker 1 (03:53):
They have said that for a while. These camps are
seemingly forever Lifeguer and Crow will jump center, toss it tap.
Two Wisconsin Badgers move to on left, and we are
underway at the Cole Center. River falls man Man on
the defensive end, and it's Max Klusban out between the circles,
gets a little bump from Stephen Krow throwing a Winter
Rotates tanjay for three left corner good John Tanjay wasting

(04:17):
no time getting the Badgers on the board.

Speaker 2 (04:20):
It's a good high low action to be able to
suck that defender in and create the shot for tangent.

Speaker 1 (04:24):
Jack Johnson against John Blackwell. Badgers straight up defensively lifeter
right elbow of flint. The Johnson at the free throw line,
stops at the foul line, gives off to Reagan Merritt
in the lane, runs it up in traffic. Good Merit.
It's river falls on the scoreboard. Three two Wisconsin. We're
in the opening minute. Blackwell sets the table for the

(04:45):
Badgers to pass the crow on the right wing. You'll
give it up to Nolan Winter leaves it for John
Blackwell at the top of flip for pleusby quick past
Winter on the right wing. Wincherd gives off to Stephen
krow tile top of the circle. The shot clock to
ten life for defending a hand off. The Tanjay puts
it on the deck left of the lane, drives to
the cup kick out. Blackwell snaps off the three right
side in and out. No good crowd the offensive rebound

(05:08):
and a river falls Falcon on the floor. Took an
elbow to the face as Klesman missing at three and
goes out of bounds. I was a Mason Anderson in
at Burton, but he took one to the face and
he is gonna come out as Gavin and Ralph will
come in for it.

Speaker 3 (05:22):
That's exactly what happened. Big Steve is in there battling, and.

Speaker 2 (05:26):
That's sometimes those bigs, those elbows just start flying by accident.

Speaker 3 (05:30):
I mean they never do it on purpose ever ever.

Speaker 1 (05:32):
Ever, you maybe did once.

Speaker 2 (05:34):
No, never, A big would never throw an elbow ever.

Speaker 1 (05:38):
Of course you're also gentle, so so of course Gavin
raulh six for Junior on the floor for River Falls,
Adams gives off to Johnson high on the left inside
He caught by life Gerd and the post left takes
it right, throws it up right black, no good rebound.
Nolan Winter three to two was constant of Minter forty
gone by tan Jay walk to the ball to hit

(06:00):
the brakes and get a pass off the blackwell, but
an extra step taken first by John Tanja Man.

Speaker 2 (06:06):
We saw Wisconsin play faster last year. They're gonna try
to continue to play a little bit faster this year.
But when you do that, you can't have those careless turnovers.
That's when coach Guard's gonna rally you back in and say,
all right, we got to take care of it.

Speaker 1 (06:17):
Zach Johnson driving the paint, throws it up back for him.

Speaker 3 (06:20):
No good.

Speaker 1 (06:20):
Crowd the rebound. You that's been an area though, goose turnover.
He's trying to clean that up.

Speaker 3 (06:25):
And it happens early.

Speaker 1 (06:26):
Absolutely Blackwell up the top, quick double. He going to
crowd low on the right. He used the money, excading
crowd his first points and it's five to two Wisconsin.
Two minutes in.

Speaker 3 (06:37):
The floor.

Speaker 1 (06:37):
Is Zach Johnson player for this River Falls team better
than sixteen points a game a year ago. He's on
the left wing, nibbles to the free throw line. Jumper
away from the left ee is no good and the
rebound pulled down by Nolan Winter. Here it comes Wisconsin.
Blackwell high in the right, little spin move light of
the lane through the paint.

Speaker 3 (06:57):
Kick out.

Speaker 1 (06:57):
Kleasmic takes the three resets and gives off the kraal
at the top of the yard well against Jack Liifker.
With fifteen on the shot clock, Krowd kills the dribble
bounced past Blackwell, isolated on Johnson's skips it over to
Klesmand baseline right leaning, shooting in and out. No good,
and the rebound to River Falls and Drew Adams six

(07:19):
Saints Senior. Here comes Zack Johnson left hand dribble off
the right wing, stops at the free throw line. Good
d from Blackwells where the life the hands it back
to Johnson right wing. I pass off to Reagan Merritt.
Eric netted up with john Tonjay, I'm your steal from Blackwell.
Here's Johnson off the right wing and the paint tried
it over the shoulder and no look past it got
picked off by Blackwell. Two on three A bounced to Tanjay.

(07:41):
He hits the brakes left of the lane. Now in
the paint flipped it up right hand, no good, and
the rebound comes down to Adams of River Falls three
twenty gone by five to two Wisconsin. Just getting started
here at the Cole Center. Zack Johnson to the right elbow,
he's off the Adams your feet, Gavin Ralph A throw

(08:03):
a Reagan Mari at top of the arc ten to
shoot Johnson right wings and he threw it away as
cutting inside was Merritt and the pass goes outside and
hold the way to the river falls. Bench turnover full
of falcons.

Speaker 3 (08:16):
And this is what you see early on in the game.

Speaker 2 (08:19):
A couple of turnovers, couple of mislayfts, just the simple
things that you take for granted, and it happens. And
that's why you play a game like this to get
some of this oiute of your system.

Speaker 1 (08:28):
Jeremy Wang gohos six to one Junior in the lineup.
Now for River Falls. Zach Johnson will sit down. There's
noldan Winter left to the circle. The pass for Klesman
off the screen from krawd cases the tan jay left
quarter three in the air is off the ren No
good three bound the lifeguar of the falcons not quite
four minutes in five to two Wisconsin, and there's two

(08:48):
out of seven here to start tonight, River Falls one
for four life guar left of the circle hands off
the Reagan Merrit off the left wing, pull up bout
lines jump around it out no good crowd clears four Wisconsin.
A lead feed to tome Jade. John brings the left
side of the front coor to pass for Krow at
the top of the circle. Crow hands off the Blackwell
Blackwell the right hand hit Fie dribbles, shovels it in
the crowd given go Blackwell catches all the right layup,

(09:11):
RIM's out, no good life for the rebound, and now
here comes one go Ho up the floor for River
falls against Blackwell, throwing the lifeer top of the circle.
Niker roded by Krow. Now Vegan Merrit with Tanjay getting
into him. He's off to Drew Adams. Land Winter is
on him. Adams trying to back kick out to one
go Ho high on the left, and go Ho turns

(09:32):
into Adams, fakes the three, puts it on the deck
left of the lane, runs it up in and out.
No life. Crashing gets the offensive rebound of the put back.

Speaker 2 (09:39):
And that's where Nolan Winter needs to close out a
little bit shorter. You can't close out so far where
you get blown by by four Wisconsin.

Speaker 1 (09:47):
About five minutes into the game, Oland Winter rotates to
Klesman outside left. Actually the right hand tossed the kraw
and a whistle inside a fout. Called pretty tough match there,
Reagan Merit give it up a lot of size to
Nolan Winter. Merritt six feet Nolan a little bigger six
to eleven and the foul is on merit. That's the
game's first. We have our first time out. Tonight's game

fifty eight left, first half Wisconsin, five River falls four.
This is Badger basketball from lear Field, brought to you

(10:30):
in the game inbound pass Klusman right corner, launching missing.
Marcusilver just checked in, gets the offensive rebound. As we
play on here at the Cole Center. A little more
than five minutes in five to four Wisconsin, McGhee out front,
sized it up, puts it on the deck on the
right wing, takes it off the wing in the lane
out to. Ilver tries a three left to the circle
money Marcus Ilver. Greg guard talking with him in the

(10:51):
last couple of days. They've liked what they've seen from
Marcus here of late senior and hopefully this is a
year where he can take that next in his career.

Speaker 2 (11:01):
And he's a stretch four. That's what he's got to do,
knockdown shots. That's the one area that if that's what
you do, do well.

Speaker 1 (11:07):
Here's Gavin Ralph driving the paint wheels one around crow
up and in first points for Ralph eight six wisconcerts and.

Speaker 2 (11:15):
If I'm still Wisconsin, you've got to get the ball
to steam like guy.

Speaker 3 (11:18):
He's had one shot at temp at six minutes.

Speaker 1 (11:21):
He has the ball right now, baseline right, Drew Adams defending,
starting to back now drawing the double. Micah Thompson in there.
Throw the Kamari McGee kicks at Blackwell left corner. Three
is good.

Speaker 3 (11:32):
It's amazing when you touch the boat.

Speaker 2 (11:34):
Uh huh, just offensively the flow they came with the
double team. He kicks it out to Kamar. One more
swing to John for a wide open three.

Speaker 1 (11:42):
It's one of those deals with Stevie, you think he's
got there's an illegal screen here set by one Gohos.
He wiped out Max Klesman. With Stevie, you just got
to command it too. I mean, it's just I mean,
if you got.

Speaker 2 (11:53):
To bark, at happens due and I know that's not
his personality. Yeah, yep, this is your last go around.
Has to find you because you're so good at passing
out of the post and doing different things out of it.

Speaker 1 (12:05):
Are you gonna hit me every time he hits a three.

Speaker 3 (12:06):
Like I will? Yes?

Speaker 1 (12:07):
Okay, yes, oh yeah, now I'm warned.

Speaker 3 (12:09):
I thought maybe I might not have a job after
last year.

Speaker 1 (12:13):
McGee goes inside to Ilver. A little jump bucket is
good inside from Marcus Hilver. Yeah, the surgery went well,
but I think the arm is all.

Speaker 3 (12:20):
The way back down, so it's great, all right.

Speaker 1 (12:23):
Thirteen to six, Wisconsin, thirteen to fifteen, left of the
first half with the balls. Dylan Parker a couple of bounces,
gets over to Adams. He'll watch a three right side
way off the mark ink sideboard. Kamari McGee's the right
sideline heats Ilver, why not tries a three? Good again?
Marcus Hilver a couple of threes, and then got a

(12:44):
little inside bucket. Time out taken by a river falls.
So Marcus with eight quick points therefore Wisconsin thirty second
time out taken by river falls. American Family Insurance is

(13:08):
are heating up in a hurry.

Speaker 3 (13:09):
Butch he is Marcus Olver, Well, there's no question about it.
And we talked about what does he bring to his team.

Speaker 2 (13:14):
Last year shot twenty five percent for three, so you
know you get that up to thirty five percent.

Speaker 3 (13:20):
And we saw Greg play Marcus against Purdue.

Speaker 2 (13:23):
Why because that's what he They were gonna give him
that shot last year and.

Speaker 3 (13:26):
The way he played out he didn't hit that hitting
those shots.

Speaker 2 (13:29):
If he does, they beat Purdue at Purdue towards the
end of the season.

Speaker 3 (13:32):
Obviously they win the Big.

Speaker 2 (13:33):
Ten Tournament against Perdue. But that's what Marcus can do.
Now can it carry over the game play?

Speaker 1 (13:39):
And this is a great star for him and what
was intriguing to me. And it's October. It'll beat a
less pretty soon. But they've been encouraged by his work
at the other end of the floor here too, So
just kind of duly noted. As we move forward.

Speaker 2 (13:53):
I will say, though, if you make shots, your defense
can decrease a little bit. I might know something about
that a little bit a little bit. Oh, I thought
you were a lockdown of defense. No, no defense. I
don't know what that word is. I'll shoot it, I'll
shoot it.

Speaker 1 (14:07):
Zach Johnson missing I left elbow jumper Badger's clearing sixteen
six Wisconsin. Blackwell blows off the left wing out the
Ilver heat checked right in the circle. It's off the rim.
No good rebound tapped around diving for in his winter,
unable to save out of auns to River Paul.

Speaker 2 (14:22):
That last play by John Blackwell is what he does
so well.

Speaker 3 (14:26):
Though.

Speaker 2 (14:26):
It's not like you're gonna give the bull to John
in ice lacing situation like you did Aj last year.

Speaker 3 (14:31):
But he grabs the ball, rips it so quick.

Speaker 2 (14:34):
His moves are so quick that the defender can't get
there in time.

Speaker 1 (14:38):
Daniel free Tag, highly regarded freshman in the lineup for
Wisconsin now Blackwell almost blows up a dribbled hand off
here with the ball as Jacob Butler. He is with
Ilver high and the right go inside. Bill and Parker
backing on free Tag and the lane goes up. Missed
the shot but fouled by free Tag. Freshman out of Bloomington, Minnesota,
four star recruit all the top point guards and all

(15:01):
of America last year, and so they try to work
to earn some minutes.

Speaker 2 (15:06):
And why these games are so good is you get
a matchup. Daniel's got a chest up. He has one
arm bar down low, one hand up high. With that,
you're gonna get called for the file every time. Now,
all of a sudden, he's done it in practice. He
gets called for it in practice, But now it happens
in a game, and now there's.

Speaker 3 (15:24):
Video that breaks that down even more so.

Speaker 2 (15:27):
Now Greg and staff he goes say, hey, Dan, this
is what we've been talking about.

Speaker 3 (15:30):
During the preseason. Now you get called for in the game.

Speaker 2 (15:32):
This is where we got to show your hands and
play through the chests.

Speaker 1 (15:35):
Those teaching clips. Dylan Parker made the first free thro
all miss the second it's cleared by Tanjay Xavier Amos
in there for Wisconsin right now, twelve oh eight left
and a half, sixteen to seven Wisconsin. McGee throwing the
Amos right at the circle, eats free tack, picks it
back out to Amos at the top, runs at the
McGee click past John Tanjay back in their left corner,
dribbles off the wing in the lane, and he got

(15:56):
fouled by Mason Anderson inside. That's what they like to about.
Tanjay over the weekend did a good job of getting
to the free throw line. This we'll have our undred
twelve media timeout. Hey, Badger fans have been looking for
the perfect in game meal. Choose a group pump pizza
loaded with quality eaton veggie toppings, then bump parted with
more than half a pound of award winning Wisconsin mozzarella cheese.
Group of lots of lots of pizzas are a proud

(16:18):
partner a Badger athletics that are available in your grocery's freezer.
We'll take a break. Eleven fifty eight left in the
first half, Wisconsin sixteen River Falls seven. This is Badger
basketball from lear Field po Chack Gaming, Wisconsin. Dell's the
best place for a grown up entertainment, games and fun times.
Your odds are better here. Eleven fifty eight left in

(16:40):
the first half, Wisconsin sixteen River Falls seven. And if
you're six out of fourteen overall, four out of nine
from a three point.

Speaker 3 (16:50):
Line and Matt the games changed, they'll be right there.

Speaker 2 (16:55):
Bit of more emphasis put on the three point line
so you can see more threes. But to me, it's
how are they taking And I thought a great example
was the post touch to Steve, the kick out, the swing.

Speaker 3 (17:07):
The wide open three.

Speaker 2 (17:09):
Those are the threes you're looking to get versus some
of them that they've had where it was one shot
or it was a hole too long and then is.

Speaker 1 (17:16):
Shot so inside out.

Speaker 3 (17:18):
And I mean, well, you gotta get the defensive class.

Speaker 2 (17:21):
You can do it different ways, post touches, drives, there's
different ways to get in there.

Speaker 1 (17:25):
Fromario McGee inboundy to Tanjay, he'll hoist up at three
right corner off the mark, no good, Jacob Butler. The
rebound of the Butler get tripped up and pops right
back up so that I meant to do that. Then
here comes Reagan Merrit to the front court. He goes
off the Mason Anderson I on the left with Tanjay
defended and tightly so right hand toss for Merrit. He
is with free Tech Merrick a golf in the three

(17:46):
point line is off to Jacob Butler. He is with
the savior aimus eight to shoot. Zack Johnson try to
post up on the gee, turn around jump good from
left to the lane. First points for Zach Johnson, who
average better than sixteen a year ago sixteen nine eleven,
twenty left in the first half. Xavier Amos, He'll stamp
off a three left of the circle.

Speaker 3 (18:05):
Good.

Speaker 1 (18:06):
Xavier Amos, who had a twenty six point game at
Northwestern this season ago while he was at Northern Illinois, and.

Speaker 3 (18:14):
We talked about that three point line.

Speaker 2 (18:16):
But it's about the spacing and greas for everything, and
that's why there's been an emphasis put on the three
point line.

Speaker 1 (18:21):
Nineteen to nine Wisconsin, Anderson throwing the butler on the
left wing, Amos getting into him. Now it's life carve
with Nolan Winter on him. Pass left side, Anderson tough
three left side off the mark, no good, and it's
cleared by Nolan Winter for the Badgers. Now Kamari McGee
usper floor gives to Winter on the left wing, Land
faces up. He'll toss it back out. The Amos rotates

(18:43):
to Tanja on the right wing. Tanjay with a pass
for Winter left of the circle, U flip for free
tag shot clock at ten free attack find of shoveling
into Winter, but the passers off the foot of a
falcon and Drew Adams will come back in for river Falls.
The Badger will be subbing as well. You've got pleasant
and Blackwell in McGee and free tag will sit down.

(19:07):
Ten thirty two left and a half nineteen to nine
Wisconsin shock block bumps out to twenty Tanjay sideline left,
throws it into Blackwell. Jack Johnson on them. Now they'll
switch off. Adams picks them up Tanja left wing root
it inside. Winter will catch single coverage. Now the double
trying to split that double team inside he does and
muscles it up and in. There's points for a dole

(19:29):
in Winter.

Speaker 3 (19:31):
Might ahead a little bit of happy if you good.

Speaker 1 (19:33):
Movie a little bit. Yeah, the points of emphasis again
they tell us traveling sometimes sometimes here's Adams driving baseline left.
They got gobbled up Winter inside. The ball is loose,
knocked out of bounds. River Falls will keep it. No
major rules changes or tweets that I really didn't have
noticed this year.

Speaker 3 (19:53):
There's not.

Speaker 2 (19:54):
I've actually got to call tomorrow with the officials about
kind of that, and there's nothing that's out there that
so it'll be a quick call.

Speaker 1 (20:03):
Yeah, it should be for now and then the liddle season. Well,
here's parent leaning in left of the lane, pushed it
up and in one thing that will be interesting. And
you know we saw that booty ball, and we've seen
the last couple of years, like when you're backing a
guy down. They're trying to watch that a little more closely. Oh,
nice feet. Amos to Winter blow on the left slam done,

(20:24):
nice delivery and Nolan finished twenty three to eleven Wisconsin,
nine thirty eight left in the first half. Yeah, when
you're backing down and the defenders in a legal position,
you displace him. We'll see how that is called as
we move forward. It might be called in uh November, December,
Uh huh. Got a funny feeling that when it comes

(20:44):
to Fifthruary and March.

Speaker 3 (20:45):
Yes, the reason is because there's not enough contact. There's
actually have a foul of curR. You just it's you
gotta go. Yeah, it's offense versus defense. You got to
stand your ground.

Speaker 1 (21:00):
Max plesband picked up with fou his first team second
in bound past Michael Thompson out the Adams. He'll try
a three left wing bangs off the iron. No good,
Exavier Amos the rebound night twenty five left and half
Tanjay up the floor in a hurry, takes it off
the right wing hard reverses and lost it as he
went up knocked away. Here comes Zack Johnson with Amos pack.
Johnson crosses over down the lane, flipped it up right hand.

Speaker 2 (21:20):
Good.

Speaker 1 (21:21):
Zach Johnson with Ford twenty three to thirteen Wisconsin, nine
to oh eight left in the half, Blackwell the pass
for Amos top of the circle, flips to Tanjay fakes
the three gives off to Amos, sends to Krow, rotates
Klesband right wing, Lesband off a high screen from Krow
fills the dribble. Now goes in to Stevie light Block,
turns up and in over Zach Johnson. Badger's with As

(21:42):
is the case in these games with the big size advantage,
absolutely six 's eight is as tall as they go
for River Falls twenty five to thirteen Wisconsin. Thompson left
foul on extended throws to Mason Anderson top of the circle.
Tns Anderson off the curl. Foul line jumper is good
or excuse Jack Johnson off the curl and he's the
foul line Jays twenty five point fifteen the Badgers eight

(22:05):
twenty nine left in the halfs Amus, who's inside gathered
by crowd gets doubled open, then blackwelled nice skip to him,
Blackwell for three around it out no good Anderson the rebound.
Now Zach Johnson gets fout of the backboard. Black Bell
trying to make that cheat offensive foul, but instead he
has called for the block that will be his first foul.
As we'll see Cameron Hunter for the first time. He

(22:27):
is in for Tan Jay Hunter, the transfer from Central
Arkansas and really put together. Played last year, had a
foot injury and talk to him when he first got here.
I tried to lose, as he called it. That injury.
Weights got his eyes open to how the off season
training works here at Wisconsin.

Speaker 2 (22:48):
All three of the transfers, and Greg has said that
about all three of the transfers, we train a little different.

Speaker 1 (22:54):
Jeremy one go Ho against Cameron Hunter. One go Ho
hard dribble, left lane, line up, left hand good good
attack from Jeremy want go Ho, the junior out of Bloomington, Minnesota,
a couple of years at Dakota County Technical College twenty
five seventeen Wisconsin ilver inside crowd low on the right,
easy fucking for Stephen Crowe. He is four so the ballscreen.

Speaker 2 (23:13):
Offensive Wisconsin's run is they're able to come off that
ball screen pass to the slot, and then that slot
pass is able to hit that roller.

Speaker 3 (23:20):
They've He's done it three straight times.

Speaker 1 (23:22):
That point lead Wisconsin seven p forty three left in
the first half twenty seven to seventeen to Scot Jackson
or excuse me, Zack Johnson hard left hand ribbled in
the lane, up and ended. Zack Johnson has eight twenty
seven to nineteen in Wisconsin. Blackwell feeds Ilver glits at
the Cameron Hunter a pass for Crow at the top,
thought about it, turned it down life. You're defending a

(23:43):
hand off the Klesban kicked out the Hunter quick pass
Blackwell right corner and has lost his balance. One go
home with a tight defense, backing in his Blackwell, John
in the lane bounces prow Low on the right, goes up.
Got fouled Well, don't check that he walked first turnover.
Wisconsin have the under eight media timeout crowd looking for
a little explanation. There a little teaching point as we

(24:06):
go to break, We'll tell you FS Envision Seed Corn
and FS High Soy Soybeans are proud partners of Wisconsin Athletics.
Get the seeds you need from the people you trust.
Contact your local FS Vision and High Soy retailer, or
visit fs seed dot com to learn more. Seven thirteen
left to the first half, Wisconsin, twenty seven River Falls nineteen.

(24:28):
This is badger basketball from lear Field. He's silver left
of the circle, gives off the John Blackwell left wing,
bounces the crow had a rejection at the other. In
a moment ago, Cameron Hunter try's a three right corner
and he nails it. World Cameron's three point shooting is
not what brought him here, at least when you look
at the percentage. But if he could do that with

(24:50):
a little bit of consistency, look.

Speaker 2 (24:52):
Out Well again it he gives his team more space
and they double team Big Steve.

Speaker 3 (24:56):
He's able to hit that cross cord path for widal to.

Speaker 1 (24:58):
Three thirty to nineteen Wisconsin. Micah Thompson in the at
the free throw line gets it out to Zach Johnson.
He has eight points and he's looked good long two
on the way and that missed badly. Thompson there for
the rebound, knocked away, but Klesman, who was the guy
who knocked it away, got some body that's gonna be
two thousand on Max Cameron hunter Is. He's got some

(25:20):
bulldog in him and he dealt with a foot injury
last year. Shut bangs down and cent for Larkansas. He
was the a Son Freshman of the Year. He go
back to the twenty twenty one to twenty two season
a year later, having seventeen a game, not afraid to
get his face in there, get rebounds a five a game.

Speaker 2 (25:39):
Intriguing well, and that's the word intrigue. Can he defend
at the high level? Obviously early on here there was
a high ball screen tried to fight over it didn't
quite get over.

Speaker 3 (25:47):
That gave up a lamp and that's the biggest adjustment.

Speaker 1 (25:51):
Johnson will inbound and Drew Adams, Nolan Winter defending him.
Now Bill and Parker against Hunter, so off Gavin Ralph
john Tanjay is on him, seat Clocke is at eight.
Adams lis it for Johnson, op rates against Blackwell five
to shoot Johnson off the left wing, throws it back
out Dylan Parker for three left side off the rim.

(26:12):
No good offensive rebound. Gavin Ralph Johnson at the top
inside thieve Lifeger catches backs on Crow in the lane.
Fates flips and hits life guard with four and it's
thirty to twenty one Wisconsin. I thirty eight left in
the first half, so the chance points there for the
Falcon's Blackwell right sideline feeds. Winter sends it back to Blackwell, flips,

(26:34):
the crowd pass off, the Winter turns the left wing
for Hunter, which we gives it up. The crow rotates
Tanjay he'll try a three right side that's off the rim,
short and a whistle inside. A foul called, and so
believe we'll go against the River Falls. Davin Ralph. It'll
be his first and the team's fourth. Jacob Butler ready

(26:59):
to check back in fool of the Falcons, say Kamari
McGhee will re enter. He's getting camera and Hunter, Adams
and Parker will sit down. Jeremy wan Gojo back in
for River Falls. Thirty to twenty one Wisconsin, five point
twenty one left in the half. McGee baseline left, lifted

(27:20):
into Krow Row left in the lane. Life you're defending
single coverage now the double from Butler open man. Winter
tries a three straight away off the iron. No good. Blackwell.
The offensive rebounds went up and he got ripped away
by Merit and then a foul called on Blackwell. It's
a good work inside by Reagan Merrit.

Speaker 3 (27:39):
And it's something really little there. But Nolan Winter has
to have his seat, his feet set. Excuse me.

Speaker 2 (27:46):
The ball goes into post, the double team comes. If
you're on that form, you have to have your feet
set and shot ready.

Speaker 3 (27:54):
He wasn't. There's a little bit of a gather. There
is no way that ball was going to go in.
And it's those little things that you know you're trying
to work through it.

Speaker 2 (28:02):
That's what happens in next special games, but again a
learning experience.

Speaker 1 (28:05):
Blackwell and Klesman starting guard Tendon, both on the bench
with two fouls. Jack Jennicki is in there now for Wisconsin.
The Richard freshman butler left of the circle, matched up
with the Winter go out to Gavin Ralph ten on
the shot clock. Now Merrit against Janicky inside the lifeguard's
mid post, left leaning, goes up right hand of a crowd.

(28:26):
No good rebound. Tanjay for Wisconsin four forty left and
a half thirty to twenty one the Badgers on Tanjay
hopes to pass back the crow he'll hoist up at
three in and out no good in the rebound of
Gavin Ralph of River Falls off to the front court
going to Butler left of the circle. The Falls has

(28:46):
taken twenty five shots. The fifth three point try the
night is good. It comes from Jacob Butler, the first
May three for the Falcons and they have pulled to
within six thirty to twenty four Wisconsin four to ten
left to the half Tanjay on the left six there's
it out to Stephen Klow at the top of the
arc that been inside yet crowd gives to Camarie McGee.

(29:08):
McGee dribbles off the link dark to pass to Tanjay
with a shot, fing out that Janicky tries a three
left side good Jack Jennicky on a white Bear Lake, Minnesota,
watching him Monday in practice and we know it's practice,
but he was a bucket and he's had a few
of those kind of days here during camp.

Speaker 2 (29:27):
And there's a reason he's in with the first half
because that when you do that, that's one half up
and zoo Tanjay try to tip it away at the
top of the circle.

Speaker 1 (29:37):
Is called for the region. That'll be his first they'll
have the under fard media time out. Badger extra is
the best website and mobile app for everything. Badger Sports
for the experts of the State Journal. Going to Badger
Extra dot com or your or search your app store today.
Three thirty six left to the first half Wisconsin thirty

(29:57):
three River Falls twenty four. Badger Basketball for lear field padres,
support pig farmers all year long. Check them out at
WPA dot org. Three thirty six left in the first
half Wisconsin thirty three River Falls twenty four. Falcons aren't

(30:18):
messing around a whole lot of the threes. They're taking
twenty five shots five or threes. Jacob Butler hit one
a moment ago. Badgers Seventeen of their twenty seven shots
have been long range, seven and seventeen for the ark
of the Badgers, Jack lifter up top throws as Zach Johnson,
he has eight points slipped on the dribble, but actually
got helped to slip as Kamari McGee not half of

(30:40):
the call. Little contact made there and that'll be the
first on Kamar cor.

Speaker 3 (30:44):
Bra has a little bit of an argument there.

Speaker 1 (30:46):
But it d happens exhibition for everybody.

Speaker 3 (30:49):
I exactly yes, yes, Well put.

Speaker 1 (30:54):
First free throws for Zach Johnson to nine he was
sixty nine percent from the foul last to it one
and one is good. He'll earn the books Coaster River
Falls from Augustana University a couple of years there. Last year,
in his debut with the Falcons, he dropped twenty seven

(31:16):
in the game against carl Florida, missed the second free
throw rebound and Nolan Winter thirty three to twenty five Wisconsin.
With three twenty five left to the first half, he
throwing the Winter left of the circle, darts at the
Tanjay left wing inside feed for Krawd quick turn low
on the left, takes at right lay up. No but
a foul and Big Stevie will go to the free
throw line for two shots, going to get the tail.

(31:40):
Renta there on that foul and again that's that nasty
size advantage. Renta listed at five to ten, Stevie slightly
taller seven footer. No good of the first three thrill.

Speaker 2 (31:54):
But when you look at this team at this year,
the bull has to find Big Stevee and it can
be in different ways, but it has to find him.
Good things happen when he touched the ball in the post,
whether it's move or whether it's a kickout for a three.
But he's gotta be more dominant night in and night
out as far as just demanding the ball.

Speaker 3 (32:14):
Not always shoot scoring, but we're shooting, but demanding.

Speaker 1 (32:18):
What's the free throws? Thirty four to twenty five Wisconsin,
three to eight left till half time. Renta outside left
on the left hand ribble picked up with a switch
by Stephen Krow five ten versus seven feet a throw
to Zach Johnson with McGee defending inside. Lobker catches, rows
it up over Winter and connects Jack Leifker with six.

(32:41):
Thirty four to twenty seven at Wisconsin with two forty
five left of the break, and Adee, with a pass
for Winter, turns it to Tanjay on the left corner.
Tanja brings it to the wing, gives it up the
Krow inside Winter, Big to Big Man a foul before
the shot inside by Nolan Winter. They'll get a tail
him for his second foul and that'll be team found

(33:04):
number six.

Speaker 3 (33:06):
And Man, you've talked about it a lot during these games.
There's a big height advantage, but if it's working, don't
go away from And I think that's one of the.

Speaker 2 (33:15):
Things that you know, getting games like this when I
had a chance to play in them. You got a
little frustrate his players because it's like, Okay, we want
to work on this.

Speaker 3 (33:23):
But we have such an advantage down low, we're gonna
just keep going to it.

Speaker 1 (33:27):
You just keep doing it in bounce pass. Tanjay catching
in the lane and he'll push it up and then
with the right hand.

Speaker 2 (33:34):
That's a great example of that mismatch, throw it over
the top. You know, go story bucket Ton. Jay has
got some muscle. We go with that six' five rame.

Speaker 1 (33:41):
Carter's pillmore in there for the Badgers. Right now he's
defending Michael Thompson's passed up Pennett right he has checked
in six two junior minslo the native Jack Johnson drives
the lane up in traffic. Good boy, he is not
afraid to do that. Zack Johnson just puts it on
the deck and attacks.

Speaker 3 (33:56):
No, but that was bad.

Speaker 1 (33:57):
It was thirty six twenty nine Wisconsin of foul. Out
on the floor is Tanja got bumped by Mason Anderson
and that'll send Tanja to the line for a.

Speaker 3 (34:06):
One and one.

Speaker 2 (34:07):
And when I say it's bad defense, it's a ball
street action. There's no weak side of help that's over there.
There's no communication, and I get that it's October thirtieth.
It takes time to develop that stuff. But that's one
of the keys that we talked about defensively. Now, limit
those airs, so let's not see it again. So correct
that ball screen action.

Speaker 1 (34:28):
Tonja with the front end of the one to one
missed it, but the rebound belongs to Carter Gilmore. The
possession stays alive. Tanjay outside left two minutes left and
a half. Tanjay tried to jam one into Gilmour. It's
deflected out of bounds. Seven point lead for Wisconsin thirty
six to twenty nine. Falcons are forty eight percent of appeal.

(34:48):
The Badgers are fifty to fifty. The key baseline left
in bound to Tanja will drift out beyond the arc.
Now on the attack, driving goes up and got fouled
on the drive. I don't get Tanja back with the
free throw line. Gavin Ralph with his foul, his second foul.

Speaker 2 (35:09):
Tanja is only two or seven from the floor, but
he's been aggressive getting to the paint.

Speaker 1 (35:17):
Four years at Colorado State. Free throw is good. One
more coming started at Missouri last year and then an
injury shut down his season into what was a disaster
of a year for the Tigers. You know, John finds
himself as a six year senior with the Badgers and
he hits both free throws thirty eight to twenty nine.
Wisconsint would minute fifty left for the break.

Speaker 2 (35:38):
Missouri did have a win against Minnesota, though last year
they did not have one in conference. Then, no, they
didn't just throwing They got one against the golfers.

Speaker 3 (35:51):
You're right there, but they did not win a conference game.

Speaker 1 (35:54):
Yes, I'm just so you just throw a little shade
on the golphers area. Is that what you're doing.

Speaker 3 (35:57):
I'm just informing for with our listeners. That's was one
of therewith.

Speaker 1 (36:02):
That's all Gopher fans. The name is Butch bran Hey,
him bows Pass, Micah Thompson. So I'm sure Gopher fans
are really there. I'm sure they're really tuned in here
now all the Badgers are doing tonight. Here's Tag Johnson
baseline right, knocked away by Gilmore. Johnson gets a back
three this year inside fee knocked away by McGee and

(36:22):
picked up by Gilmore. Good defense, but Gilmore McGee combo.
Here's Carter thought about the three turned it down. Now
it's McGee up top, takes it off the left wing,
one hand tooss Winter one right in the circle, snaped
up the dribble, bounces it out to Gilmore with ten
to shoot. Gilmore left of the rings, leaves it for McGee,

(36:43):
Kamari seven to shoot. McGee against Johnson five to shoot.
McGee gets the high screen from Wincher now driving right lane.
Line goes up, got foul there you go, and Camari
McGee will go to the free throw line.

Speaker 3 (36:55):
Even though Kamar gets the free throw line.

Speaker 2 (36:57):
Of that possession, it wasn't a good possession, and it
wasn't a good possession because they.

Speaker 3 (37:04):
Were operating three or four feet off of the three
point line.

Speaker 1 (37:06):
With all of their actions.

Speaker 2 (37:08):
Yeah, now, earlier in the game, the ball screen offense
that they're going to, they're turning that corner hard, they're
breaking the paint, they're trying to get downhill a little bit.

Speaker 3 (37:16):
You didn't see that on that possession.

Speaker 1 (37:20):
Magee appeared in twenty five games last season, and he
was injured, and remember last season and had had that
injury taken care of over the summer and then late
summer starting to feel like, yep, I'm all the way
back and wait, what a spark he can be. He
had that eleven point game against Rutgers, played quite a
bit in that Big Ten Tournament matchup against Northwestern. He

(37:42):
definitely can be as spark if it's off the bench,
if it's in the perst five. Off the bench here
tonight making both free throws. That just seems like a
wall where he Greg Steins may heard of the pregame
show be a star in your roles.

Speaker 3 (37:59):
That's the energy at your brain.

Speaker 1 (38:01):
Forty to twenty nine, Wisconsin, fifty four seconds left to
the first half. One go ho against John Tanjay, you're
bling top of the circle. He's it for Micah Thompson.
A pass for Gavin Ralph outside left against Janicky, pass deflected,
gets there to Lifer right through single coverage from Kraw
backing mid post level life you left show return upright
hand short. Tanjay clears for Wisconsin. Thirty five seconds left

(38:22):
in the half. Patter's up eleven Tonjay left points, He's
it for Krowd down to thirty seconds Ralph for Janicky
on the right wing, rolls around a cross screen. Now
Gilmore shot fake Lieza for McGee fifteen to shoes twenty
two to play Tonjay Lusip to Gilmore left in the lane,
darts across fort Janicky for three off the rim, no
good rebound, trying to keep it alive with kraw taken

(38:43):
away by Zach Johnson. Twelve second slept in the half
Johnson to the line down the lane was sole offensive
foul as busting down there was Kamario McGee to take
the charge.

Speaker 2 (38:53):
Starring your rolling is a great example of that right there.
That's an extra possession. Most people in that situation aren't
gonna stay a bit to take that charge or be
quick enough to get back to be able to take
the charge.

Speaker 1 (39:05):
Zach Johnson called for that fout. Great guards subbing ten
point two left and a half. He's got Winter rout
Tan Jay, Janicki and McGee. Final possession of the half
of the Badgers here shot clock dark forty to twenty
nine Wisconsin. McGee picked up in the back court by
Matteo Renta down to eight seconds. I hef the right
sideline to the front court down to five seconds. McGhee
top of the circ three seconds. Janaki with two and

(39:27):
he walked with the ball trying to juke and go.
With one point six left in the half, River Falls
can get the last shot. Andrew's up eleven, but they
should get up here a little bit going, get in
bounds to renta with one half forty eight counts of
it goes, bangs off the glass. No good, and we
are at halftime in this exhibition matchup at the Coles Center.

(39:50):
Binards is a proud sponsor which Consent Athletics reminds everyone
an all improvement needs at Minards. At the half Wisconsin
forty UW River Falls twenty nine, we're back with halftime
report presented by Calvers. This is Badger basketball from lear Field.
Twenty more minutes. We get ready for the second half
Wisconsin and the UW. River Falls with the Badgeries leading

(40:12):
the Falcons forty to twenty nine. Tomorrow nights along any
of these Badger Network stations, we'll have the football radio show.
I have it on Thursday this week. Check you're vocal
listings for the time at the station near you as
we get you ready for the Badgers of the Iowa
Hawkeys under the lights again Big ten Saturday nights as

(40:36):
they call it, Wisconsin and Iowa. Our coverage starts at
four thirty Saturday after didn't kickoff set for six thirty.

Speaker 2 (40:43):
Telsh can stay up the late back to back Saturdays.
It's gotta get me more bottoms. I gotta get a
snap in, Okay, all right.

Speaker 3 (40:51):
So no pickle ball Saturday morning for Tewson.

Speaker 1 (40:54):
He's got to pay yourself. You gotta pace yourself because
I'll get my five mile run in.

Speaker 4 (40:58):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (40:59):
Sure believe that second half is underway. First touch to
river falls Jack Lifeterer on the right wing against Stephen Crowe.
Abounced for Zach Johnson out between the circles. The job
by Tanja denying Mace Sison trying to get Thty Adams
going to Vegan Merritt pass deflected, gets to Adams eighte
to shoot, backing in on plesbant left block, kickout long three.

(41:22):
Johnson good from the right side. He was a thirty
five three point shooter a year ago. His first long
shot tonight that it's forty to thirty two Wisconsin. All right,
Just moving to our right to the second half. Ton
Jay left wing inside, fee trout, catches left block, turns
up right hand, dances in prow was seven.

Speaker 2 (41:41):
Early and often, and you said to tell him and
that that's what you need to see, and we need
to see from Big Steve all you.

Speaker 1 (41:48):
Long te point lead Wisconsins, Johnson attacking left lane link
or to dot the Mason Anderson forty two to thirty two,
was content and then had gone by second half Merritt
against klesmer going Anders long three left side short, no
good and the offensive rebound Adams second chance. Here's Johnson
off the left link, pushed up a tough shot, no
him in a foul. And again the aggressiveness, the assertiveness

(42:11):
of Zach Johnson, and he earned a couple of free throws.

Speaker 2 (42:15):
You just gotta get what he absolutely can and he
was All Conference last year.

Speaker 3 (42:21):
But one of the things, and one of the reasons
that Steve gets called for that file is going to
use the word verticality gift. He jumped straight up and down.

Speaker 2 (42:29):
But as soon as those shoulders turn, that's when the
official is gonna call.

Speaker 1 (42:33):
I thought it was the right call too from the screen.
Throw is no good, Kamari McGee, we'll check in for
John Blackwell. So the three frow for Zach Johnson. He
got fourteen points tonight and they get fifteen minutes. He
gets one out of tude and quiet.

Speaker 2 (42:49):
Night for john He missed the block out. That's why
he's being subbed out right now.

Speaker 1 (42:56):
I herew's up nine. Here's Kraal at the top of
the circle. You know the fee for tan Jay outside right,
takes a look, takes a three off the heel of
the rem no good Johnson and rebound for River Falls
which is it up the floor against Camarie McGee. A
bounce into life group and the laying against Nolden Winter
back in turns all on the left, push it up,
no good rebound Tanja for Wisconsin. A lead fee to

(43:19):
Klesman which left side of the front court for the Badgers,
throwing to McGee his haskets deflected. Prow saves it back
out to McGee left corners. Badgers reset the offense. Winter
at the top of the yard puts it on the deck,
pushed off. But they're gonna get a foul call. This
is gonna go against Drew Adams. Noland kind of flirting
with an issue there again.

Speaker 2 (43:39):
With that free a free hand exactly that being sick.
I like the aggressiveness by Nolan Winton. They were taking
away the dribbled handoff. So go drive the ball there
was a gap there for you to do that, and
that's what he did.

Speaker 1 (43:56):
Ye got himself a little stronger during the off season,
which of course to go for everybody, but a guy
like Winter, they've never questioned.

Speaker 3 (44:02):
His what too.

Speaker 1 (44:03):
Just need to be a little more muscle to him
and he's working toward that. Here's Kraal for three miss
Badley for the right wing. Zack Johnson along pass down
the floor, Reagan merrit up not to wait by McGee,
Camari busting down the floor, and here comes Max Klusman.
Play another hustle play for Kamari, and that's what he
brings this team. Lesbie goes into Krow, turns at the

(44:25):
Tanjay good. Look at the three left side danced off
the iron, No good, Mason Anderson. The rebound for River
falls Jack Johnson. So that's the offense. Little crossover got
by Tanja Lisi for Lifer at the free throw line.
Pivots loads it out to Johnson. He'll try it three
over crowd. Good again. Zack Johnson's second triple got ourselves

(44:46):
a game forty two to thirty six Wisconsin two and
a half. That it's gone by second half. Tonjay left
wing loops around a witcher ball screen out crowd top
of the yarkow Liza for McGee. He'll try a three
right side, got it Tomorrow McGhee with five, and that
was needed. Forty five thirty six Wisconsin.

Speaker 2 (45:05):
Was the body movement creates chaos at times, simple back
door cut two defenders Tomorrow's wide.

Speaker 1 (45:13):
Open to Jack Johnson off the dribble, missing a jumper
from the left elbow, Tonjay. The rebound for Wisconsin three
to zero five gone by second half. Forty five thirty
six the Badgers. Tonjay bobs around a crowd screen. He'll
snap off the three that's off the back of the rim.
No good, you know. Rebounded through Adams of river falls
Zack Johnson up the middle, fans out to the left wing.
He'll throw it to Adam's top of the arc. Winter defense.

(45:36):
Adams gives off to Mason Anderson being crowded by Tanjay.
Now Vegan Merrick off. The link stops wide of the circle,
just under the three point line. Ten to shoot. Shovels
it inside, caught by life. Their turns goes up, gobbled
up by crowd. Wifer gets it back now Zack Johnson
with four to shoot Johnson being crowded by McGee inside
feed wanted Adams. The pass went off the rim, and

(45:58):
now Nolan Winter for Wisconsin and a lot from Pleasant
in the crowd trying to save it, and he does
as he throws it off of Adams. Not a picustle
of a sequence there, but the patchers maintained a position.

Speaker 3 (46:12):
Just decide. I was gonna put my hands over my eyes.

Speaker 1 (46:15):
Your eyes leaning there, Yeah, that's all.

Speaker 2 (46:17):
That's all I was gonna do up that one. I
just is gonna look down real clear. It's a better
option you and all. Paul Ryan there, you get the temples,
the eyes black.

Speaker 1 (46:30):
Well back in. Therefore Wisconsin Carter Gilmore as well. About
four minutes on second half, Addrew's up by nine. Here's
klesmant long three left side off the rim, no rebound
Drew Adams of river falls. Here comes Zach Johnson, who
has eighteen points to lead all scores. Right hand ribble
rose Ato Adams pass fight now tries a three off
the rim. No good. Winter grabs the board for Wisconsin outlet.

(46:53):
The Pleusman up sideline is matched to the front court
throwing at the Winter top of the circle. Feel feet
John Blackwell off the wing, tosses to Gilmore, Lisa for
Klesman around a Gilmore ball screen to the line, Clesband
in the lane, and a two bounce past right corner
Blackwell for three off the back iron. No good. Drew
Adams the rebound for River falls. Zack Johnson up the

(47:14):
floor fifteen twenty five remaining forty five thirty six. Wisconsin
badrews now eight of twenty five from the yark and
one of eight of the second half. Adams spin move
in the lane goes up, got fouled by Nolan Winter
his first we hit the under sixteen Media time out
Badger fans. Tonight's game is brought to you by the

(47:35):
official products of Wisconsin Athletics, brow pub Lata, Bots of Pizza,
Old Dutch Chips and Pepsi fifteen sixteen remaining Wisconsin forty five,
River falls thirty six. This is Badger basketball from lear Field.
Wisconsin Basketball brought to you upart by UW Health Sports Medicine,
the healthcare team of the Badgers, of proud sponsors of

(47:55):
UW Athletics. Forty five thirty six Wisconsin fifteen minutes, sixteen
seconds remaining. Daniel Free tag back in the lineup for
the Badgers, and the free throw line is Drew Adams
six s C. Three years at Wenona State. Timmy hits
the first free throw for his first point tonight. He
does have six rebounds. Second free throw in and out,

(48:19):
no good free tag clears for Wisconsin. The falls a
plus two on the glass tonight. By the way, twenty
three boards twenty one for Wisconsin. Forty five to thirty
seven Wisconsin. Here's Blackwell blows up the left ring in
the lane and trap off with the ball. Yeah, a
little awkward trying to get to that jump stop and
a turnover for Wisconsin.

Speaker 2 (48:38):
The fifth of the Knight, Scoontson only has twelve shots
that are not three pointers. And when you're playing a
team like you Neiver River Falls, you gotta continue to
pound that ball inside.

Speaker 1 (48:52):
Inside his Adams, they go back out for three left
side good for Gavin Ralph Man Here we gowenty five
forty Wisconsin with fourteen forty five remaining to ge goes
into kraw He'll catch big post left drawls the double
open man. Gilbore rotates free tag baseline right retag trying

(49:12):
to get a cutter kilmore bad passed ale it away.
Here comes Gavin Ralph ahead. It goes to one go
ho hard to the rim lay up is good in
transition forty five forty two Wisconsin and Greg Guard will
use a time out as River falls. As made this
a game here at the Coles Center, and this will

(49:32):
be a full time out. The Wisconsin Department of Transportation

River Falls, forty two. This is Badger basketball from lear Field.
River Falls on a six point run. The Badgeries have

(49:55):
gone scoreless for nearly three minutes, so it's a ballgame here.
Fourteen twenty three remains in Wisconsin forty five River Falls,
forty two as Kamarin McGhee brings it to the front
board against Jeremy one go ho whe that John Blackwell
dries off the wing hard to the rim, lay up,
no good, tipped up crowd, no Gilmore clears rogers keep
the possession alive hard to the right of the sturt.

Speaker 2 (50:17):
First time we've seen John boot Blackwell attack like that.

Speaker 1 (50:19):
All game walk getting pretty quiet. As he said, here
so far tonight has the ball now Blackwell at the top.
She took the Krow, hands it back to Blackwell, mid
range jumper off the iron, crowd taps the rebound. Luis
got a backlow on the right, miss the chip shot
Drew Adams the rebound for River falls and here come
the Falcons. Davin Ralph dribbles off the right wing and

(50:41):
then try to leave it for Micah tooms that he
could not handle it off his hands and out of
bounds through Wisconsin thirteen forty one, remaining forty five forty
two Wisconsin.

Speaker 3 (50:55):
He up the floor.

Speaker 1 (50:57):
And then the offense goes off the Blackwell Plesman, Bill
Moore and kraw As Klesmich set to the floor and
the fouts is called Crow also went down. They're gonna
get Drew Adams now that'll be number three.

Speaker 2 (51:10):
So offensively, what we saw early in the second half
bad threes one dribble pull up threes, not ball movement threes.
Now they've taken twenty five a little bit too much
for me, but I understand like that. That's what's break
and staff. They want to get a cup more of
those threes, but they've got to be good rhythm threes
and then you gotta continue to pound that ball inside.

Speaker 1 (51:30):
They know the pain points right now the advantage River
Falls twenty two to sixteen. Here's crowd right, Black Turns
goes up right hand.

Speaker 3 (51:36):
Good.

Speaker 1 (51:36):
There you go.

Speaker 3 (51:37):
It's amazing.

Speaker 1 (51:37):
Yeah, it's it really like a simple game.

Speaker 3 (51:42):
Can't some days someday some days that you know?

Speaker 1 (51:45):
Forty seven forty two Wisconsin, thirteen to ten, remaining Gavin
Ralph out high around a lifer screen, chased by Blackwell
helping Defenser and Crow is knocked out of bounds. River
Falls will keep it.

Speaker 2 (51:57):
And I also get you want to work on things
as well, and that's also why we're seeing a little
bit is they want to work on a couple of
different things that they've gon work down in the off season.

Speaker 1 (52:08):
And bounding is one go ho baseline right, it's it ended.
Dylan Parker race on the left, King or right Kney,
I should say one go ho left point. I'll reach
against Kamari McGee is off. The Parker drives on plesban
left lane line flapped that up and in it counts
and a foul Tylon Parker on the attack injured miss

(52:30):
most of last year, led the team and assists a
couple of years ago, and they took care of it
himself and as an an one opportunity. As a Falcons
are back within three and that just.

Speaker 2 (52:40):
Comes off a dribble handoff and there's there's no help
there now. Max has got to fight through that a
little bit quicker, but there's got to be some resistance
at that ball.

Speaker 3 (52:50):
There just wasn't.

Speaker 1 (52:52):
A lesbian with the third foul will come out Jack
to Nicki is in forty seven forty four Wisconsin twell
fifty five remaining Parker with the free throw and it's
off the rim, around the rim, and in two point
game here in Madison forty seven forty five, the Badgers
twelve fifty to play. McGee gets your screen from Kraal,

(53:15):
throws it at Gilmore at the top, ends it for
Janicky pass to flect the crowd. We'll catch Gibb and
go Janicky in the lane, runing out at Gilmore for
three up top cut Carter Gilmore with a tripping and
the Badgers lead by pot.

Speaker 2 (53:28):
It started by Jenicky hard cut to the front of
the rim. He's playing at a different pace than the
rest of the guys right now when he comes into
the game. That's why he's impact is.

Speaker 1 (53:37):
Fifty to forty five Wisconsin. One go ho ice screen
from Jacob Butler. Gilmore gets him on a switch wipe
her hands off the parker gave the rast first by crowd,
then Janicky does. Butler rotates it to one go ho
high in the right ten to shoot one go ho
against Carter Gilmore left in the lanes, turns it up
top the life gerd drives left lane line, spins in
the lane, tough shot right hand off the rim noo

(53:59):
threebound ten as scrambled for on the flores. Carter Gilmore
digging it out of there, and I'm on a timeout.
Art Gilmore going down there to come up with a
loose ball. Thirty second time out. This will actually go ahead.
We'll take me under twelve media timeout now. Wisconsin Basketball

(54:45):
Twelve minutes remaining Wisconsin fifty River Falls, forty five badgers
coming up in a loose ball courtesy at part of Gilmore.
We're using a time out there, so one remains for
great guard and three timeouts on the table for Jeff
Burcom and Janicki out there with Tamari McGee, Carter Gilmore,

(55:08):
Stephen Crowe and John Blackwell. Look, you've given his team
a lift to you three points as an assist tonight.
He has the basketball right now, throwing the Blackwell between
the circles as well gets a high screen from crow
Light at the wheel fills, the gribble rotates to McGee

(55:28):
inside feed, crowd catches the walls, the double inside Blackwell
low on the right, goes up, got hammered and John
Blackwell will go to the free throw lines. The Magers
get getting it into the paint and Blackwell will shoot two.
They get jack life curve with that foul. That's his

(55:51):
first and team foul number three on River Falls. Both
teams were three fouls. Blackwell last year at twenty two
percent free throw shooter, and he is go to the first.

Speaker 3 (56:05):
Just kind of sense a sense of urgency here, a
little bit reader.

Speaker 2 (56:09):
Okay, all right, we're gonna work on getting the ball
in low, down, low, We're gonna find ways to drive
kick out.

Speaker 3 (56:16):
Just the pace is a little bit better right now.

Speaker 1 (56:18):
Checking free throw for john is good. You know it's
five fifty two to forty five Wisconsin.

Speaker 3 (56:23):
Which is expected.

Speaker 1 (56:25):
Yes, Jack Johnson with eighteen points, starts the offense, hands off,
Ralph means it for Leiper, rotates to Reagan Merrit. Ralph
twitched it now driving Merrit in the lane. Shot blocked
by Janicki oh Jack. Janicky on the defensive end makes
a play man. Here comes the red shirt freshman left
sideline of the front coy now Blackwell the right side.

(56:45):
He'll Fiz Krow top of the yard. One dribbled. He
goes off to Kamari McGee bounces for Krow left of
the lane. Single coverage at the moment, backing his crowd
against Laker, draws a double, goes up and in double
coming from a small and Reagan Merit as Prow with
the bucket to give his team a nine point lead,
fifty four to forty nine Wisconsin with ten fifty five remaining.

(57:09):
Johnson out high throwing the life here left fall on
extended file defense. Now Jacob Butler baseline right turns it
out the merit. He'll try a three right side miss
badly rebound tip from crowd and McGee here drums Kamari
right side of the front port for the Badgers, up
nine with ten thirty eight remaining. Kroll left battle on

(57:30):
extended bounce past the Blackwell quick turn baseline left inside
in a crowded area, shop blocked by Gavin Ralph inside
and then it goes off the leg of Ralph and
out of bounds to Wisconsin.

Speaker 2 (57:45):
And anytime the ball is going to the post, you
river Falls is bringing three two.

Speaker 3 (57:50):
Guys to them.

Speaker 2 (57:52):
Understand that playoff at two feet that's where you can
get your kickout three.

Speaker 1 (57:57):
I see Gavin Ralph a couple of years he played
a plattefell inbound pass goes to krow Low on the
left and he goes up and gets fouled right away.
It's going to be lifeguard. Got'll be his second and
Big Stevie will go to the free throw line. It
was a seventy four percent free throw shooter last year.
He has thirteen points five rebounds tonight. One to two

(58:17):
at the line for his free throw for Krow is
air born and good, and he'll lead back to ten
for Wisconsin. So an eight point run here full of Badgers.
Drew Adams back in for Jacob Butler as river falls.
So second free throw for Crow on the way and

(58:39):
that's off the back of the rim. No good rebound.
John Blackwell's extended possession here for Wisconsin with ten twenty
to play. Plow settles him down, burns it off to
Blackwell at the free throw line. He'll retreat out near
the mid cord logo high screen from Kraw. Blackwell will
use it, hooks it back to Krow, tries a three
back iron. No Janicki the offensive rebound, another opportunity. Janicki

(59:04):
high in the left, rose to Gilmore at the top
after Jack left wing. He's with Reagan merit left the lane.
One pump goes up, got it counted town of foul
check Janicki with an and one. Oh, go get it,
young man, go get it.

Speaker 2 (59:21):
Then start with energy right they get yourself involved in
a couple of offensive rebounds and all of a sudden,
the Paul finds you again. Now you drive lit shot,
baked the defender up in the air. You finished through
the contact.

Speaker 1 (59:38):
One of those guys when he was attending various camps,
he was at a camp out at Stanford, took an
overnight flight to Madison to be in the advanced camp
here and missed the free throw. Gilmore the rebound, but
he was, you know, basically running on fumes and really
caught the eyes of the staff what he did here
at the at the camp couple of summers ago in Madison.

(59:59):
This guy com play a little bit red shirt freshman.
Here's Gilmore throwing the Blackwell dribbles off the left wing
and the paint stops shovels at. Gilmore hooks it back
out the crowd with three straight on back rim no
good rebound Blackwell had it. Couldn't control life. Gre Ducks
fifty seven to forty five, Wisconsin, with nine twenty four
remaining and a time out taken by River Falls with

(01:00:22):
nine twenty two to play. This will be a thirty
second time out, nine twenty two remaining. Wisconsin fifty seven,
River Falls forty five as the Badgers are on a
ten point run.

Speaker 3 (01:00:34):
Well, and you look at how they've done.

Speaker 2 (01:00:36):
They got twenty field goals, fifteen assists, the balls starting
to move again for.

Speaker 3 (01:00:40):
A while there at the end of the first half
they had thirteen assists of fourteen mate shots.

Speaker 2 (01:00:45):
Then they win and there are fourteen assists on sixteen
mate shots. When you do river falls made that run.
Now it was on the balls moving again. You get
some more assists, you get more made shots. It's amazing
how that works.

Speaker 1 (01:00:59):
Isn't It's one of those you were saying, you work
on some things and then it's like, hang on, maybe
we ought a week in this game. Here they are
keeping score and I played enough.

Speaker 3 (01:01:09):
Man.

Speaker 2 (01:01:10):
It's tough because, yeah, I think it's tough for Greg.
I think it's tough for the players to understand what
you want to know. Greg probably wants to look at
a couple of more things before it really counts.

Speaker 1 (01:01:18):
On Monday, Zach Johnson hard left hand, dribbles, stops left elbow,
throws it out to Gavin Rapp, got Tanjay up at
the shot bank now hoisting up at three in and out.
No good rebounded Jenicky or Wisconsin take me up the
right sideline with nine oh seven remaining Badgers up twelve
Golden Winter. He's it for Tan Jay high screen from Winter.
I passed for Bill Moore right of the circle, shovels

(01:01:40):
it off to Tamari McGee at the right point. Bob's
off of Gilmore screen, so those are back to Gilly
took three right of the circle, cook up Carter Gilmore's
second triple of the night. Then the Badgers run continues.
Now sixty to forty five Wisconsin eight forty five remaining
thirteen point run full of Badgers. Zach Johnson out high.

(01:02:00):
I guess McGee trying to stay with him. If ro
archer Drew Adams was an on the deck left lane
line shot blocked by Gilmore out of bounds to river falls.
That's e urgency bupons on the floor. Dylan Parker back
in replacing Reagan Merritt oko a senior at a Lamatosa,

(01:02:25):
and bounced past to Adams top of the circle with
eight and a half minutes to play. Davin Ralph a
couple of years he played for the Plattville Pioneers and
Jeff Guard. Here's Lifer in the lane, short jumper in
the paint O good rebounder ripped away by Johnson baseline
right mid range Jay is good Zach Johnson with twenty
tonight and that stops the Wisconsin run at thirteen points,

(01:02:47):
sixteen to forty seven Wisconsin eight ten remaining, Tanjay goes
inside catching it is Nolan Winter at the left block
turns up in.

Speaker 3 (01:02:58):
Winter with me.

Speaker 1 (01:03:01):
You know pretty move inside. Fifteen point lead for Wisconsin
with seven to fifty five remaining. Johnson up top throwing
the life creve right of the circle inside to Dylan
Parker knocked away but getting a lot of arm as
well was Carter Gilmot as we hit the under eights,

Who's up fifteen? Zach Johnson at the right elbow, throws
it out to Crew Adams, eating Dylan Parker. Hoops the
pass to Adams backing off the left wing, thinking and

(01:04:04):
his Tanje will out to Owen havlik in for the
first time. Now Johnson for three up top, no good
off the iron rebound Kamari McGhee, now john Tanje against
Parker's seven twenty to play sixty two to forty seven Wisconsin.
He with a pass for Nolan Winter motates to Tanjay

(01:04:24):
on the right side. Tanjay off the links and the
lane goes up. No but a foul on Dylan Parker.
So for that best in the game. But you what's
getting your attention here tonight.

Speaker 2 (01:04:35):
But I think when you look at it right now,
it's the ball wid that they've had when they've had success.
They've got sixteen assists on twenty two field goals early
on in the season. To have that chemistry, to understand
how you're playing off each other and what you're reading.
To me, it's got to be that early on, And
I mean really at the end of the first half,
it was thirteen assists on fourteen made shot.

Speaker 3 (01:04:56):
Obviously there was.

Speaker 2 (01:04:57):
A little bit of a lull in that second half,
but overall they're finding each other, which is a good sign.

Speaker 3 (01:05:02):
Early on in the.

Speaker 1 (01:05:02):
Season, Tanjay hits the first free throw. Dylan Parker called
for that foul. By the way, his first number six
on River Falls. Second free throw for Tanjay is good.

Speaker 3 (01:05:12):
And we really seen this sixteen to two run happen
because of the ball movement. Yes, the ball was stagnant.

Speaker 2 (01:05:18):
All of a sudden u W River Falls came back
in the game, the ball started moving in Wisconsin's on
a seventeen.

Speaker 3 (01:05:24):
To two run.

Speaker 1 (01:05:24):
There's Parker baseline right throws at the Adams while on
the left goes up, calls out no good. Another rebound
for Tanja sixty four to forty seven, Wisconsin, six point
fifty remaining at the coal Center, Winchard speeds, Max Klesmant
went in there, bobs around the winter screen in Melaye.
The runner is off the rim, no good and the
rebound comes down to Adams off River Falls Parker. It's

(01:05:48):
it to the mental man. Zach Johnson got cut off
by McGee Johns is still trying to go to work
right lelane, lost the handle, just lost it off his hands,
out of bounds to Wisconsin. That shot that Klusman missed
in the lane, that was the shot that beat for
two in the Big Ten Tournament semifinals, That little runner
in the paint, that overtime thriller up in Minneapolis.

Speaker 3 (01:06:11):
That was a funnel. That really was.

Speaker 1 (01:06:13):
He's a fun tournament, took Illinois down to the wire
in the Big Ten Tournament championship game. Was gonna run
out the Gilmore. He'll try another three?

Speaker 3 (01:06:22):
Why not?

Speaker 1 (01:06:22):
Yes, sir? Three threes tonight for Carter Gilmore sixty seven
forty seven Wisconsin, six to eight remaining Jeremy Juan go
Ho bounces of Micah Thompson right of the circle. See
back to Juan go Ho hard leftandru Will off the
right wing clips at the Johnson. He'll try at three

(01:06:43):
left of the circle. Rattles home for Zach Johnson, who
has has twenty three tonight, and that.

Speaker 3 (01:06:49):
Four spot for the badge is gonna be really interesting
to see.

Speaker 2 (01:06:51):
How it evolves over Yet, Marcus, he came in played well,
Carter's played well. Nolan right now with a finish, They're like,
who's gonna head take those minutes from that force, But
all three of those guys have played really well Tonight.

Speaker 1 (01:07:03):
Geen minutes to be had for sure his winter at
the other ingas Wisconsin a nineteen point lead, sixty nine
to fifty five and a half minutes remaining. Owen Halo
Fush went out a Marion, Iowa. He's off to one
go ho He'll try a three over Tanjay beck Iron
no good rebound Kamari McGee, so he with six assists,
four boards tonight, tan Jay tickles off the left wing

(01:07:24):
and the pain muscles it up and in Tonjay with
eleven A lot of shots to get there, but he
stays with it. He has six rebounds tonight to go
with those points in a time out taken by River
Falls with five oh two remaining, with over thirteen hundred
slot machines in a ninety five percent average payout, ho

(01:07:44):
Chuck Gaming Madison is your hometown. Big win. Make it
next night out a winning one at ho Chuck Gaming
Madison should just this is probably the sixty now the
River Falls is taking five oh two to play seventy
one to fifty Wisconsin leading River Falls. No, we talked
to the pregame. We heard from Greg Steins be a

(01:08:05):
director of player development. Fun to see him back into
the fold. Your old budd, Greg Steins was out here
on the staff.

Speaker 2 (01:08:13):
Well, and you look, there's a lot of familiar faces
in men.

Speaker 1 (01:08:16):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (01:08:16):
That that that that shows what this university needs to have.

Speaker 2 (01:08:21):
Guys wanting to come back, wanting to be a part
of it, wanting to help.

Speaker 3 (01:08:26):
Continue to success.

Speaker 1 (01:08:27):
That that you know we've had and guys who have
been elsewhere too. Greg Stein's has been in the NBA,
and as the college landscape becomes pro like and lost her,
you try to retain and you go get guys free
agents if you will in the portal. That's a life
that Greg was a part of. Lance Randall, who holds

(01:08:48):
the all time wins record at three different schools, you
know he's gone through that. You know at the at
the D two levels. Absolutely say he's from Montfort and
his great guard coaches a suburb of college. But you
know a guy with a definite Wisconsin absolutely in Wisconsin
flavor and get Joe kravin Off obviously sure if Chams

(01:09:08):
Kirk Penny, there's a strong staff Wisconsin crowd, but kind
of worldwide. And two in their knowledge.

Speaker 2 (01:09:19):
They've grown the development. There's a reason they've also come back.
It's a special place here, is.

Speaker 1 (01:09:26):
Like the Thompson inside for the finish, his first points
seventy one fifty two Wisconsin, four forty eight to play.
Marcus Hilver scored eight points in a hurry in the
first half. Back in there now as we get late
to the second, pleasant right of a lane darts a
past Tanjay fakes for three. It was off the linge
and the lane pushed it up, missed, but a foul

(01:09:48):
Donjay as he did in that scrimmage over the weekend.
A nice job of getting to the free throw line.
He's four or five right now and he'll shoot two
more year as Zach Johnson picked up the second fat
four six remaining seventy one to fifty two Wisconsin, first

(01:10:11):
free throw for Tanjay on the way, And you mentioned
the Badger's on Monday will play Holy Cross. They Paulson
the head coach there, And I was looking at some
clips and hearing some of the players and it's no surprise.
And what have you guys really been focusing on defense? Defense? Defense? Defense?
Because last year holy Cross, by Ken Palm's numbers, was

(01:10:33):
the worst defensive efficiency team in the country. So you
know that's going to be a massive emphasis. And we'll
take a look at holy Cross on Monday night, and
three days later Montana State, a team that many people
believe can win the Big Sky Conference. Free throws are good.
Badgers up twenty one, with four twenty two remaining. Nick

(01:10:54):
DeLuca on the floor right now for River Falls. I'm
trying to get some other guys in the line up here.
Here's Beteo Renz, a driving runner, left hand, no good
winter the rebound for Wisconsin ahead. It goes to John Blackwell.
Seventy three fifty two Wisconsin with four minutes remaining. Not

(01:11:15):
long ago, it was a two point game. We're gonna
get an off the ball foul here. Tanjay got tied
up with Owen Havlick. The fowl is on Hablik and
that'll get Tanjay to the line for a one on one.
The first we'll have the under four media time out.
We'll take a break. Three fifty eight remaining Wisconsin's seventy
three River Falls fifty two. This is Badger basketball from

(01:11:37):
lear Field. Three minutes fifty eight seconds remaining here in Madison,
this exhibition match up. As Wisconsin pulling away the river
falls seventy three to fifty two. We were mentioning the
coaching staff. Let us not forget Isaac Wadago, another new
edition of the staff, director of recruiting and Scouting, most

(01:11:59):
recently a head coach at Northern Kentucky. But definitely the
name might sound familiar to some. Brother Jeremy at one
point worked in what used to be called Sports Information
of Wisconsin. Then he decided to get a real job.
He's now a high level attorney in the area. I'm
good to have Isaac on the staff here. I still,

(01:12:21):
by the way, have not trying to get a real job.

Speaker 3 (01:12:24):
No, I'm trying to put as as I can as
we can. Yep.

Speaker 1 (01:12:27):
Ricardo Greppi on the floor. Now there's six ten freshmen
out of Italy. As John Tanjay is at the foul line.
It's the front end of the one one seventy four
fifty two Wisconsin. Second free throw coming up for Tanjay
eyes the rim sends it, hits it, and now Xavier

(01:12:51):
Amus will come in for Tanjay. Repy a late edition.
You know you have the summer workouts, and you got
here getting into the month of August, a big body
to have and someone that's gonna be intriguing over the
course of time. There's Matteo Renta driving off the right
wing to the coup and he'll lay it up and

(01:13:12):
in for his first points with a little burst.

Speaker 2 (01:13:14):
And that's where we're with college sports. Talk about Grepy.
We had a chance to talk with coach guard. He goes, Brian,
you might have talked more to him than I had
a chance to talk to him. As I said, down,
I did an interview with them. He said, yeah, that
might be true.

Speaker 3 (01:13:27):
Right.

Speaker 2 (01:13:28):
That's where we're at right now in college basketball, especially,
it comes over these players.

Speaker 1 (01:13:33):
Daniel free Tag turns it over in the lane at
the other end, like had Red Tang blad Berry's a three.
In the meantime, he got bodies on the floor in
the lane, Marcus Ilver down there, and they're gonna the
three pointer will count and then the foul call here.

Speaker 3 (01:13:49):
I think they're gonna get iver.

Speaker 1 (01:13:55):
And it will be an extended possessions make the Luca
will inbound seventy five fifty seven Wisconsin, so the chance
for five, maybe a six point possession.

Speaker 2 (01:14:05):
Here.

Speaker 1 (01:14:05):
Here's rent A baseline right. There was in the tang
Lad in the lane leaning shooting scoring rootang point.

Speaker 3 (01:14:11):
But yeah, the five point possession.

Speaker 1 (01:14:13):
Here go seventy five fifty nine. That will be a
fun teaching clip for you guys. Sixteen point lead Wisconsin
with three to zero five remaining. Yes, so we'll be
Here's Xavier Amos throwing the free tag outside left. It's
at the greppi at the top inside Amos knocked away,
batted around, out of bounds and belong to Wisconsin. There's

(01:14:36):
Reggie Postal, freshman out of Iowa, will come in for
Matteo Renta two fifty four remaining seventy five to fifty
nine Wisconsin, Blackwell baseline rights, looking floated out the free tag.
I scream from Repy free tag. He'll try a three
and it's off the highre No good. Repy tapped it,

(01:14:58):
gathered by Ilver then could not corral it and Drew
Tang Glad brings it up the floor for river falls.
Now it's Nick de Lucas setting the table for the Falcons.
With two and a half minutes to play, Badgrew's up
sixteen to Luca. Try to get it into read tang Blag.
That's poked away turnover River Falls. Blackwell steps up, He'll

(01:15:21):
try three straight away front rim, no good rebound. Sean
Sullivan for River Falls. Play this one out with two
fifteen remaining, seventy five to fifty nine Wisconsin. Nick de
Luca right lane line, shovels to retang Blag, leaning firing,
missing rebound. Blackwell four Wisconsin World with five points in

(01:15:45):
the game. MC repe out high Liza for Ilver ros to.
Xavier Amos rotates the free tag baseline left and tried
to dart it out to the corner. But an offensive
foul or learning moment there for Daniel free tag because
he popped right into Nick de Luca. Cameron Hunter will

(01:16:06):
come in for the Badgers, replacing Blackwell with a minute
fifty two to play, and.

Speaker 2 (01:16:10):
Even if the player for u Falls wasn't there right like,
that's just as a freshman, the games so fast, and
I think that's an example where Daniel just play off.

Speaker 3 (01:16:21):
With two feet instead of leaving your team.

Speaker 1 (01:16:24):
Nick de Luca being hounded by Xavier Asans getting him
on a switch re tang Blad. He's off the postal
and knocked away, but a foul is called, they'll get
Xavier Amus reaching in. That'll be his first and a
one in one coming up for River falls on team
found number seven. Reggie Postal will go to the foul

(01:16:46):
line one thirty eight remaining, seventy five to fifty nine Wisconsin.
It was forty seven forty five earlier this have and
the Badger's got a thirteen points run to break it
open for his free throw is good for posting. Second

(01:17:09):
attempt for the sixty one freshman bangs off the rim,
no good rebound tapped in the hands of Drew tang
Blad and an easy money bucket seventy five sixty two wisconsint.
With ninety seconds remaining before you tag out high low,
a crossover down the lane to the rim runs it up, missed,
but the foul free tag little Burst goes.

Speaker 3 (01:17:28):
And that's what he can break it now.

Speaker 2 (01:17:31):
Understanding when to use your speed and when to slow
the game down, and that's what you get with freshman.

Speaker 1 (01:17:39):
He was a football prospect at one point. Matter of fact,
the Badgers staff had some interest good wide receiver, but
then his final year as a prep focused on basketball.
That's the ticket for him, as he laid the first
free throw, and it's a guy that the Wisconsin staff
has been looking at and has built the real relationship

(01:18:00):
for a few years. Second free throw off the rim
and out rebound battle fork Oh Hodges in there for Wisconsin.
Chris Hodges keeps it alive for Wisconsin's free tech baseline right,
lost it as he went up. Paul Is Lewis sen
A fowl is called and we're about to see Jack
Robison come in for Wisconsin. Robison the latest in the

(01:18:29):
Lakeville Lakefield North connection. Late Reavers, Tyler Wall, Nolan Winter,
and now Robison. He comes in for Daniel Freetag Shaun
Sullivan Senior of roose Mount, Minnesota. At the foul line
for a one in one, missed the front end and
Robison clears the rebound. Been at tend to play seventy

(01:18:49):
six sixty two Wisconsin. Amos is it to Marcus Silver
baseline left? He got cut off by ten Glad? Who
King Glad? That is Cameron Hunter. Dark to pass to
river baseline left, stops turns shot, got gobbled up. He'll
try again in traffic, rolls off.

Speaker 3 (01:19:06):
No good.

Speaker 1 (01:19:07):
Hodges the rebount at the right block. There's Hodges throws
it out to Xavier Amos with forty eight seconds to play.
Amos down the lane to the rim and he get
tied up and fouled, and Amos will shoot two. Forty
five point eight seconds to play. Called on Sean Sullivan
for the record. Good to see your guy Eric Rowley

(01:19:34):
over here. He's a social media you guys gonna be busy.
First free throw for Amos with the front rim, No good. Yeah,
well we'll take him out the dinner. We'll take him
out to the dinner once we put them on Sylvestrie's stamp.

Speaker 3 (01:19:51):
Yeah, only got the video of that last free throw.

Speaker 1 (01:19:54):
Oh yeah, I don't want to interace you know, hearing
us right now. We don't want to interrupt these artistry.
Second free throw is good for exaber Ayden cannopp will
come in now. For Wisconsin. Preferred to walk on freshman
out of Sussex, Wisconsin. Isaac guard on the floor as well.

(01:20:15):
Forty five seconds to play seventy seven sixty two Wisconsin
re tang blat birds one away, trying to get one
over to Sean Sullivan. It buzz out of bounds right
near the River Falls bench.

Speaker 2 (01:20:28):
That's one thing you don't want to do as a player,
and that turnover right here come it's never good, not good?

Speaker 1 (01:20:34):
No pl I mean bowl would hold it for a couple.

Speaker 3 (01:20:37):
Of second, would you know, yes, Stee would.

Speaker 1 (01:20:41):
Here's Isaac Gard throwing a Robinson rotates the cameraon Hunter
baseline right, turns it out to Robinson music for Hodges.
He's lost his balance now with Cannop outside left alright,
an toss Robinson eight to shoot Hunter off the right wing,
turns it out the Kannop thought about it. Cannop left
them lane into Hodges, hold them up one pub got
bout ie feet inside canop into Chris Hodgers heels shoot

(01:21:05):
two good drive. Ten seconds to play, seventy seven to
sixty two, Wisconsin, Schaumberg, Illinois. I just appeared in eleven
games last year. And he goes glass. It's the first
free throw.

Speaker 3 (01:21:24):
That's what he called it.

Speaker 2 (01:21:25):
Absolutely, there's four misses in the game. Basketball right left,
short boxing himself a chance.

Speaker 1 (01:21:33):
X box Worth says good second free throw background once
twice and out no good raabout Isaac Gard trying to
shove one up. No good readout Robinson. Five seconds left,
Cameron Hunter gives off the guard, he'll hold it. Time
runs out and the Badgers they got to push a
little bit tonight, but they took control as the second
half was progressing, and Wisconsin wins by sixteen.

Speaker 2 (01:21:54):
Yeah, ball movement really was the key in that second half.
Got back to what they did in the first half,
found each other, play for each other really good. You know,
five minute chunk there would say, really good second half
as they let w River Poles come back to it.

Speaker 3 (01:22:09):
But I'm a good five minute chuck there. You got
to extend that lead and find a way to get
the win.

Speaker 1 (01:22:13):
And now the regular season begins Monday night here at
the Cole Center as Wisconsin will square off with Holy Cross.
Final score Wisconsin seventy eight, UW. River falls sixty two.
Butsch and I are back whether Wisconsin Ford Dealers post
game show in a couple of minutes. This is Badger
basketball from lear Field. Kind of weird. The guys come
around here after they do their you know, the varsity,

(01:22:36):
and the flatman's with us, and most of those guys go,
who are these guys are?

Speaker 3 (01:22:41):
Who are these guys? Are these guys?

Speaker 2 (01:22:42):
But the look I got from Max sitting at all
all I need to say, yeah, can we get this
thing started? Really, let's go.

Speaker 3 (01:22:48):
Can we get this thing started up Monday?

Speaker 1 (01:22:50):
Yes? And the answer is yes, you can on Monday
when the Badger's take on a Holy Cross. Well it's hi, Brian, Butch,
I'm Matt Lapay. This here's the Madgres's postgame show, brought
to you buy your book Wisconsin for Dealers. As the
Badgers the Pete River Falls tonight, seventy eight to sixty two,
as is always the case in these early games, actually

(01:23:11):
the case throughout the course of the season. You win
a game, you get good, and then you find a
lot of things.

Speaker 3 (01:23:17):
That you want to work on.

Speaker 1 (01:23:18):
That's the purpose of this. In a perfect world, Brian,
you know, and it's not perfect, but if it was
closer to that, they get a couple of these kind
of games, you know with the fans. You know, maybe
you do a couple of close scrimmages, a couple of
open ones. But they've hit their limit now. They had
their close scrimmage on Saturday, they had this with River

(01:23:38):
Falls tonight, and they know they have a lot of
work to do. But I'm guessing there's like three hundred
and sixty other coaches who were going to say the
same thing.

Speaker 3 (01:23:45):
Yeah, And that's one of those way you would have loved.

Speaker 2 (01:23:47):
To get one earlier in September. Even you know, just
if you have more, you can do some more things.
You can start to feel your team out a little
bit more against a different team. And when you start
doing it, as long as as coach Guard has done it,
and as long as these guys have been going against
each other, guys are cheating plays, they're taking away tendencias,
all those things, and it starts to get really tough

(01:24:09):
to read what this team does well because they're playing
each other so well in practice, because.

Speaker 3 (01:24:14):
They know what they want to get to.

Speaker 1 (01:24:15):
Yeh, Badrews win it tonight, seventy eight to sixty two.
More of our Wisconsin forty oers postgame show is coming up,
along with the season debut of quich. He's a breakdown,
don't miss it. This is Badger of basketball from Learfield.
He continues the Badger's seventy eight liverfalls sixty two before
we move on, let's platt ten seconds for station identification,
ten for an ID. This is Badger basketball from Learfield.

(01:24:38):
So you know what's going to be happening. There's gonna
be like my ten takes from this exhibition game to
everybody's gonna break it down, but nobody breaks it down
like Butcher. What do you got for the season debut
of Butcher's Breakdown?

Speaker 2 (01:24:49):
Oh, keep it simple tonight, and no, there's a lot
going on. We'll just make sure you're happy. Keep it simple.
I don't want to throw too much stuff at you.
I mean, you're all right, you're not going.

Speaker 1 (01:24:59):
I'm just here here hanging out.

Speaker 3 (01:25:00):
Look good.

Speaker 2 (01:25:03):
But I thought they did a good job of getting
the free throw line. They got there twenty four times
or seventeen at twenty four. We've talked a lot about it,
but the eighteen assists on twenty five makes and I
think that in general sets the tone. And they shot
eleven of thirty two from three. They're gonna get more
threes up. That's just where college basketball is now. But
it's how do you get those threes but yet still

(01:25:23):
staying balanced in what you want to do and getting
to the free throw line more than your opponents to
is something Wisconsin has done for a very very long
time and that's.

Speaker 3 (01:25:31):
Not gonna change.

Speaker 2 (01:25:33):
And I think getting there twenty four times when you
could have settled, and they didn't settle, and I thought
that that was really important for what they were doing.

Speaker 3 (01:25:39):
And then the ball was fining players.

Speaker 1 (01:25:41):
Yeah, Tanja in particular eight of nine at the foul line.
A tough night from the field, but.

Speaker 3 (01:25:46):
He's still fighting for context. Im just worried about finishing.

Speaker 2 (01:25:49):
He's worried about getting so much content, but he was
getting to the free throw line up.

Speaker 1 (01:25:52):
You have six rebounds for him and a fifteen point
night for Tanja. You kept it simple, all right, you know.

Speaker 2 (01:25:58):
Just I'm trying to I mean, Wisconsin led for thirty
nine minutes and forty four seconds.

Speaker 3 (01:26:03):
What else I could throw stuff in there? Just letting
me know.

Speaker 1 (01:26:07):
It's all about pacing yourself.

Speaker 2 (01:26:09):
You know.

Speaker 3 (01:26:09):
You know I'm gonna you wait till you went till
Monday night.

Speaker 2 (01:26:13):
Oh, you won't want to miss that breakdown Opening night breakdown.

Speaker 3 (01:26:19):
It might go for twenty minutes, No too long, too.

Speaker 1 (01:26:23):
Long, I'll be sure I'll catch it driving home. That'll
be great. Badgers went in seventy eight to sixty two.
When we continue, we gave you the Nissan out of
Town scoreboard. But the season really hasn't started yet. But
we'll continue with our postgame show coming up. This is
Badger basketball from Learfield. You know I could give you

(01:26:46):
the points per possession stat, Bryan, you know with our.

Speaker 3 (01:26:49):
Bob say that till Monday, say that till Monday.

Speaker 1 (01:26:52):
It was actually it. It was favorable by the rules
of coaches, Ryan and Guard for Wisconsin tonight. But we'll
get in it.

Speaker 3 (01:27:01):
Don't don't give them all the good stuff tonight.

Speaker 1 (01:27:03):
You don't want it.

Speaker 3 (01:27:04):
You just don't want to give it all up.

Speaker 1 (01:27:07):
Exhibition game you get, we'll save it all from month.
We'll we'll get you all that and more. It'll be great.
Seventy eight sixty two Wisconsin defeats UW River Falls. Normally
we'd have our Nissan out of town scoreboard, but it's
really like for the Badgers. More about the schedule, because
this is one of those things to say it every
year that training camp when you were playing here, was

(01:27:27):
it October fifteenth was at the official start because there
was a time that's when camp started, and now it's
more like third week of September. It's forty some days
to get thirty.

Speaker 3 (01:27:39):
To see me.

Speaker 1 (01:27:40):
Yeah, I don't it might have been October fifteenth with
you not that old am I well that sixteen years ago.

Speaker 3 (01:27:48):
Oh yeah, unbelieve Actually I think it was.

Speaker 2 (01:27:51):
Yeah, but it takes for There's midnight madness. But then,
but I felt like this season had started to like November,
like I thought it was a month.

Speaker 3 (01:27:59):
Well it used to be, but it did start to
like what November.

Speaker 1 (01:28:01):
I'm old enough to remember it would start around Thanksgiving weekend.

Speaker 3 (01:28:05):
Ye, Now like November fifteenth, and that we're up to
November fourth.

Speaker 1 (01:28:08):
Yes. And one of the things that they've done with basketball,
if you're going to do it in the midst of
a football season, let your opening night be on a Monday,
which is what they'll be doing with Holy Cross. But
it seems like it's forever before the game starts. And
now it's more rapid fire with Monday Montana State and
then you know, a week from Thursday, Apple Achian State,

(01:28:29):
a Sunday morning game, or excuse me, a Montana State
on November seventh, Apple Lachian State on November tenth, and
then the one that I know fans are excited about,
Arizona excited about for a lot of reasons. But the
games start, they hit you quickly, right, So the teaching
points and the corrections. All of that just takes on
more urgency.

Speaker 3 (01:28:47):
Well, and I think as a player, you get a rhythm.

Speaker 2 (01:28:50):
That's the toughest thing about this long stretch of playing
is the rhythm that you have. You might put together
two or three good practices and then you might have
two days off just based on how many days you
can practice because that windows open. So you know, all
of a sudden you feel like you did have a
rhythm and you never really have two days off in
a row. Ever, so now that you did, you try
to find it again. And so now they know what

(01:29:13):
it'll be. They'll have the master schedule in front of them.
They'll know, hey, we got six days in a row.
They don't get an off day. We got two games.
We have practice here, we got that. Like the schedule
is solidified so much more right now, and they know
what's coming. And then on top of as a player,
you have someone look forward to, Like for six weeks,
they had nothing to look forward to.

Speaker 3 (01:29:33):
I mean, woo practice right, Like I mean.

Speaker 1 (01:29:37):
They're talking about practice.

Speaker 3 (01:29:39):
I mean it's not like I walked this in. Yes,
another six weeks of proud.

Speaker 1 (01:29:43):
I always thought you were the most excited guy here,
like we got the practice again.

Speaker 2 (01:29:48):
Yeah, I get to hear bo. Yeah, Brian, Yeah, what
are you doing? Oh well, if you would have said that,
I would have been happy. Two Wisconsin over UW.

Speaker 1 (01:30:00):
River Falls.

Speaker 3 (01:30:01):
Tod I.

Speaker 1 (01:30:01):
We'll have more of our Wisconsin Fort Dealer's postgame show
in a couple of minutes. This is Badger Basketball from Learfield.

Speaker 2 (01:30:11):
I.

Speaker 1 (01:30:11):
Wisconsin Fort Dealer's postgame show continues. Wisconsin seventy eight, River
Falls sixty two. Tonight, john Ton Jay with fifteen points
leads the way for the Badger Stephen Crowd with fourteen
I thought they got a spark off the bench from
multiple sources, Brian Marcusilver got eight pointed about a minute
and a half in the first half. But Kamari McGee

(01:30:31):
and kamariy McGhee uh ends up with what six assists
in this game? And Jack Janicky, I don't you know,
I don't know how much he's got, how many minutes
he's gonna get during the course of this season.

Speaker 2 (01:30:41):
But like practices in the house can say you keep
playing like that, you can get more minutes.

Speaker 1 (01:30:46):
Absolutely, I mean it's hard not to notice. I was
mentioning during the game broadcast. Watch him in practice like, oh,
this guy's a bucket and another you know, the defensive end.
As coach Guard makes his way out here. Now, I
mean that's the next step for anybody to earn those men.
It's but like that's that's like, okay, got a little
little something going on here. This guy knows how to play.

Speaker 2 (01:31:06):
So Carl Gilmore came in, he backed down three big threes.
Yeah big though, made a couple of threes. I have
to mention that, and of course, yeah you didn't hit me,
which was the.

Speaker 3 (01:31:16):
Saving it for Monday.

Speaker 1 (01:31:20):
But a guy like Carter Gilmore knows that, you know,
he can bring some other things, some of the dirt
and then knocking down some threes. It's never a bad thing.
As we're joining courtside by the head coach, Greg Guard
able to play a lot of guys, a lot, a
lot of different combinations. Your your first impressions watching this team,
you know, playing in front of a crowd against other

(01:31:40):
other uniforms here tonight.

Speaker 4 (01:31:41):
Well, we got a long ways to go defensively, obvious,
that's not a surprise to anybody, and especially as we
get into the rotations. That's the thing is as the bench,
the bench has to develop a better defensive identity. You know,
obviously JANICKI Gilmour where two guys and McGee gave us
a real spark. And those are veterans, guys. I mean,
Jack's not, but Jack's been here a year, so we

(01:32:03):
understand some things. But that's the biggest thing this group.
We're not where we need to be defensively, and I
think we have. You can see, as I just told them,
the light bulb flickers here and there, and it can't flicker.
It's got to go on consistently. At times it does
and then we flicker a little bit on both ends
of the floor. But you can see some potential and guys,

(01:32:25):
now we've got I've got to continue to make decisions.
And that's the nice part about these. I wish we
had more of these where you could experiment with lineups
and just see who's ready and who's not quite ready
for this and how fast things are coming at them.

Speaker 1 (01:32:37):
Is that a pipe dream or is that something that
could be real in the future, Greg, where you could
get if it's two close scrimmages too open exhibitions since
you start camp.

Speaker 4 (01:32:48):
So yeah, that's the biggest thing, you know, Brian, when
you were playing. It was October fifteenth, and yeah, that
was two and that was the you know the rule.
Now we start three weeks earlier, so we need more
of this and we'll you know, just because you learn
more from these things. You know, Gilmore and quite frankly
JANICKI don't get put in those situations. Whe they got
to respond like that in a practice situation. So it's

(01:33:10):
good to see that. And you know, obviously Blackwell and
coles men will shoot it better. I think Tanja will
shoot it better. I thought we had some really good
looks in the first half, but I thought we also
went away from throwing the ball inside. You know, it
just uh and it's tempting, I know, when there's five
red jerseys sitting in the paint and we're getting wide
open threes. But we had we took some that were
I call them horizontal passes. They weren't we weren't playing

(01:33:33):
inside out. We were pitching the ball around the perimeter
and or take a couple of side dribble threes. So
those are things we've got to continue to wean out,
but defensively and then we you know, we go to
the bench a little bit and they get some dribble penetration.
Now they get some confidence and so it's all learning process.

Speaker 2 (01:33:53):
How do you think you transfers and played tonight obviously
first time on the floor, and yeah, fans, you know, just.

Speaker 4 (01:33:59):
Think you can tell you can tell that John tian
Jay has played a lot of college basketball.

Speaker 3 (01:34:03):
He just you know, he'll shoot it better.

Speaker 1 (01:34:05):
He's not.

Speaker 4 (01:34:06):
He's still learning how we switch screens and that stuff,
specifically Paul screens. He's typically a step late on it
and it costs us a little bit tonight. So that's
that's just part of him being here, you know, for
a longer period of time and and picking up on
that and seeing himself on film. That'll help as much
as anything. Uh, you know, I thought cam Hunter did

(01:34:29):
some decent things. I thought Xavier, you know, and we
got to continue to get better defensively you know with him.
But you know, I think for all of them, this
is all new, you know, and you know, even though
they played somewhere else, it's a it's a step up
and and more is required.

Speaker 1 (01:34:47):
You know that we set the bar pretty high.

Speaker 4 (01:34:50):
And the older, like I said, the the miscues, the
stumbling we do typically I find it with the older
or the guys that are new in terms of our
I thought no one winned did really good things. You
can really see the he's got to get better. He
lays for block shots a little bit too much sometimes
and really kind of that happens a little bit when
he gets tired and we can push him through his

(01:35:10):
push his fatigue lever a little higher. But no, it's
said all along, it's been a fun group to watch develop.
But you see the potential with it. But we're we're
not anywhere near where we need to be.

Speaker 1 (01:35:22):
I wonder if it's not your problem, but I wonder
how many of the three hundred and sixty other coaches
are thinking the same thing, particularly now transfer here. It's
just gonna take time.

Speaker 4 (01:35:32):
That's part of my whole you know, push with the
NCAA is of having more of these Why not we're
gonna practice thirty days. Why not just play play two more,
to play three more and leave it up with the
coaches whether you play you know, five close scrimmages, three
exhibition games, whatever whatever a number is. But especially like
you said, Matt, we have more time number one, and

(01:35:54):
we have such a transient nature that we have to
you know, less time to learn, you know, really young guys.

Speaker 2 (01:36:01):
Well, and you've talked about it a lot, but during
practice they keep going against the same guys over and
over again.

Speaker 3 (01:36:06):
Yeah and.

Speaker 4 (01:36:09):
Yeah, by about twenty days it becomes really the point
of diminishing returns. And I talked to coaches of yesterday
and he was like he was just tired of practice.
Same thing, yeah, the same thing. You know, all the stuff,
they start jumping things, you really can't get a good
look and you don't have to guard you know, everything
you're guarding.

Speaker 1 (01:36:27):
From a defensive standpoint. Like tonight, we had to react.

Speaker 4 (01:36:31):
So you got to figure it out on the fly,
figure it out on the court, you know, Like I
said that we'll get more. We get more from Saturday,
and we get more from tonight, and that'll be the
cases we continue to go go forward. Obviously, I, you know,
probably won't go as deep. Maybe I hopefully I can
go as deep. And we played well, yeah it's played well,
but uh, you know, well this whole players sort it

(01:36:54):
sorted out. Players will determine, you know, by what they
show the coaching except what they can do and who
can be on the floor and who's ready for more
and who needs more help in getting ready.

Speaker 1 (01:37:03):
We thought we talked before the game this cancer awareness night,
a lot of presentations during the course of the game,
we can't show Howard Bailey recognizing and I mean, what
a what a great human being to begin with, and
the work that he's done.

Speaker 4 (01:37:17):
With the Carbone Cancer Centers just off the charge it is.
I mean, he's turned it into one of the world's best.
I mean, obviously he was directly linked to Paul Carbone
when it started, and you know it was one of
his Paul Carbon trained him. So, yeah, Howard is the
sult of the Earth, you know, and just an awesome,
awesome person that has such a great caring manner. I

(01:37:38):
guess obviously as a doctor you probably should have that, right, Yeah,
he is. He's awesome, And uh, we're we're really lucky
and really fortunate to have you. Hope you never need
it in terms of having to go to Carbone, but
we're so fortunate to have such a awesome, awesome place
that's world class and cutting edge and getting the best

(01:38:00):

Join me on this podcast as I navigate the murky waters of human behavior, current events, and personal anecdotes through in-depth interviews with incredible people—all served with a generous helping of sarcasm and satire. After years as a forensic and clinical psychologist, I offer a unique interview style and a low tolerance for bullshit, quickly steering conversations toward depth and darkness. I honor the seriousness while also appreciating wit. I’m your guide through the twisted labyrinth of the human psyche, armed with dark humor and biting wit.
