Speaker 1 (00:00):
By mccoles center at Madison, alongside Brian butch, our engineer,
Dave McGann, and Maurice Jones. Back at the network studio.
This is mad Leapey. Welcome to Wisconsint Basketball Game five.
The Badgers so far, so good. They go in four
and zero, take it on ut Rio Grand Valley. Before
we get started, let's pause ten seconds for station identification,
ten for an ID. This is Badger basketball from lear

(00:22):
Field Badgers and the Viccaros tonight out of the South
Lend Conference, Wisconsint ranked nineteen and the eight people this
week twenty fifth and the coaches poll and trying to
follow up what was a magical like Friday night against Arizona,
the one O three eighty eight win against the Arizona Wildcats.
Now it is the ut Rio Grand Valley. Mccarros, we

(00:44):
throw it out of the floor. Now for the singing
of our national anthem. Well done. Time for basketball now
as the Badgers take on the ut Rio Grand Valley. Vccaros,
spend a little time in your life done in the
neck of the words, right I did.

Speaker 2 (00:59):
My wife at the spent well. I was still trying
to chase that orange ball around my wife didn't travel position,
so she lived down there for three months. Nice little spot.

Speaker 1 (01:08):
That is, Yeah, trying to make that a nice, nice
little program. Alcahill Fanel the resume is impressive. At the
time at BYU, they obviously put up a lot of points.
They shot a lot of threes last year. Matter of fact,
I think half of their shots were threes time at
Louisville before. So now trying to try to get that
program going. It was a six win team last year

(01:28):
their final year in the whack. So this is their
opportunity to a get a paycheck to come here. But
they don't test themselves. They've already played the likes of
a Creighton and a Nebraska and they're just not afraid
of anything. They get the ball across half court and
it's going to go out pretty soon thereafter, and.

Speaker 3 (01:44):
It's gonna go up, and it's gonna go up quick too.

Speaker 2 (01:46):
And I think that's the biggest thing. Now you talk
about the BYU influence out of it. We know what
Mark Pulp has done, and I know Gregg's watch a
lot of you know what b what you did with
Mark Popa's there as far as body moving, ball movement,
because it's the same philosophy. We want to get a
lot of threes, but we want to get out of
the right system.

Speaker 3 (02:00):
By moving the ball in moving bodies.

Speaker 2 (02:03):
So I expect the same thing here with Texas Rio
Grand Valley as well. And that's where the Scott's has
we dialed it like, you have to follow your principals.

Speaker 3 (02:11):
You can't leave the shooters.

Speaker 2 (02:12):
Because you know if they have just a little bit
of space, it's gonna go up. You can't just turn
your head and look one side overhelp. Now this team
is based in Wiscons's based on what they're trying to do,
helping each other. But if you overhelp on a team
like this, it's gonna be one pass for a three.

Speaker 3 (02:29):
So it's a it's tricky.

Speaker 1 (02:31):
It's tricky Assada dual. A team is somebody just watching
in some of their games. You know, there's really no
fear anywhere on this team. But he's got talking with
Kirk Penny about him. This young man has got a
lot of athleticism. In most cases, we're gonna talk about
opponents and players who are well traveled, and he is
one of those. Starting a Santa Fe College or College

(02:53):
of Southern Idaho, but he can. He'll shoot the three,
but he'll also he'll go off the bounce. I mean,
he'll do some things. Cliff Davis not afraid to shoot
the threes. But your point about fast starts in the
keys of the game is really that's a big one
because they've been looking up at deficits during some of
these early season games.

Speaker 2 (03:13):
And could be completely honest with this statement. You can
get away with it against these teams. Next week when
you're at Green Brier, you're not gonna be able to
get away with it with the teams that you're gonna play. Yeah, Marquete,
you're not gonna get away with it. Butler, you're not
gonna get away with it. Illinois coming up in December,
you're not gonna get away with it.

Speaker 3 (03:32):
Miske it.

Speaker 2 (03:32):
You're not gonna get away with it. So you gotta
get it out of your system. It can't be something
that you do and then you have carry over.

Speaker 1 (03:40):
That was the one of the pluses in a game
on Friday, because the Badgers actually did get off to
a good start.

Speaker 3 (03:45):
That's huge.

Speaker 1 (03:46):
It was a whistle happy game, as we all know,
but the Badgers forty seven free throws, making forty one.
They're averaging twenty five attempts per game. Obviously Friday Night
bought that up. But they're ninety percent Budgie ninety out
of one hundred at the free throw line. That'll win
you a game or two.

Speaker 2 (04:04):
Well, I will do more than that. It's great when
you honestly think about this. Wisconsin puts up one hundred points.
Forty percent of them come for the free throw line.
I don't know if I've ever seen a number like that. Yeah,
I really don't.

Speaker 1 (04:17):
It was crazy.

Speaker 3 (04:17):
It was alsome.

Speaker 1 (04:18):
John Tanja twenty one of twenty two. Him, John Tanja
twenty two.

Speaker 2 (04:24):
I don't know if I made twenty one in a season.
Now I can get to paint at all again.

Speaker 1 (04:28):
Oh you just shot three?

Speaker 3 (04:29):
Shot three?

Speaker 1 (04:30):
Gotcha? I understand again.

Speaker 3 (04:32):
I'm not the smartest one.

Speaker 1 (04:34):
DJ Kristensen, James Breeding, and Nate Harris are your officials.
Or this Monday night match up as ut Rio Grand
Valley and the Rode Orange uniforms and the white trim
Badgers Home White and Cardinal trim a sign a duel.
A team will jump center. Well, the mccaross and Stephen
Crowe will have to do these for the Wisconsin Badgers.

(04:57):
First time these programs have ever met. It's just Rio
Grand Valley, Texas. Rio Grand Valley, Edinburgh, Texas run along
the border of Mexico. As we are set to go
toss and tap. Two Wisconsin Badgers moved to our left
and our underway. At the Coles Center. Stephen Krow up top,

(05:18):
He'll throw a left side of Klesman inside feed Nolan Winter,
single coverage of rule a keem and Nolan goes up
low on the left. No good got his own rebound
back up and n I just like that. It's doing
nothing Wisconsin. There it comes Texas, Rio Grand Valley. Trey
Miller up top, gets a screen high screen at the top,
throwing to a side of duel of Keem left of

(05:39):
the wheel against Nolan Winter. One jap step puts it
on the deck, spin move in the paint goes up
over Winter around the room and in.

Speaker 2 (05:46):
There's a a f It's gonna be a tough card
for Nolan. Yeah, that's where he's got to be able
to move those move those big feet of pins.

Speaker 1 (05:52):
Shop Blackwell gets a screen at the top of the key,
who crowd moves to his right, flips the Winter at
the top turns the klesmant hind the left inside feet
bought by Kraw comic gank you hag with these single
coverage backing his Kraw left block still back he left shoulder,
turn it up right hand back grim out no good
and to redound to Gyank you Hag of ut Rio

(06:13):
Grand Valley. Now it is Cliff Davis at the top
of the circle, left hand toss, Trey Miller pull up
mid range up left side good. There's four to two
ut Rio Grand Valley. A little more than a minute
gone by, a twel throwing a Winter left of the
circle up passed for John Tunjay and.

Speaker 2 (06:32):
Yeah, well now Wisconsin's focused. I call the bowl inside.
First three possessions they've tried to go down now, one
was a cross screen there where Max has just gotta
be set. Even if he's there a little late. You've
created just enough. You don't need to move there because
they're gonna look for.

Speaker 1 (06:48):
Here's Trey Miller up the floor for ut Rio Grand Valley.
Just at the yank you hag back to the Miller to
the free throw line. As you're back out to yank
you Hag feeds d K four he'll try a three
right side, no good, and it went hever to the
lane for the rebound and it goes to John Blackwell.
Then and a half gone by.

Speaker 3 (07:05):
Four to two.

Speaker 1 (07:05):
The Vicaros meeting Wisconsin. Max Clesban high the right mana
man defense from ut Rio Grand Valley. John Tonjay off
the left wing on the dribble started the back, now
kicks at the Krow Low on the left, moving in
on Ganka hagg shot walk is at ten rows, go
backing and the paint goes up left ten class and
they just clip the left side high n no good,

(07:26):
hassan abduel of key. The rebound pull the Vicaro's two
minutes in four to two. Ut Rio Grand Valley. Here's
Cliff Davis trying to three straight away and he nails it,
a good three point shooter and he's not shy about
It's seven to ut Rio Grand Valley. Here's Blackwell dribbling
right of the lane, holds it out to Stephen Krowd

(07:47):
gets it. The Tanjay at the top of a pass
for Klesban left wing goes in the Nolan Winter skips
it right corner. Blackwell tries a three, bangs off the rim,
no good Ganka hack the rebound per ut Rio Grand
Valley the floor they go. They are ranking thirty six.
Then tempo and there's Davis a three left of the
circle up the left side. Iron Badger's clear. The remount
Well pushing front court for Wisconsin, stops the verbl Hind

(08:10):
on the left, feeds a golden Winter sends it back
to Blackwell. A toss for Klesban left wing loops it
into krowd left of the lane, single coverage for Atomic.
Yanka had backing his crowd, Yanka Hagg trying to hold
his ground. Little spin move from crowd of fouls called
on Yank, you Hagg the six week softboard and that'll
be the first foul once you're almost three minutes in.
That's first foul.

Speaker 3 (08:30):
Thank you. I'm happy to see that this on.

Speaker 1 (08:35):
I played that out.

Speaker 3 (08:37):
They were used up Friday. You look at Wisconsin.

Speaker 2 (08:41):
They've tried to continue to get that ball down though
there's a nice little inside screen there to get John
the three, but they like they got to take their
time down.

Speaker 1 (08:49):
Yeah, the three bang off the rim, cleared by the Viccaros.
Here's Trey Miller, that's side right. Three minutes in seven
to two U t Rio Grand Valery. Ruler kem throwing
the thorn left side, feeds Ganka Hack at the top
of the circle. Lost it back to thorn against John
Tanjrey dribbling off the wing, stops in the lane. What's
the right corner? Trey Miller three in the air off
the rim, No good rebound Nolan Winter. I'm quite three

(09:12):
and a half minutes gone by. It's seven to two
ug Rio Grand Valley. If the Badgers have missed five
of their first six shots. Stephen Kroud catching the right
of the lane, starting to back mid post right, turns
of the block, goes up in and use the lad
with the right hand.

Speaker 3 (09:26):
They're not praying a couple well they're not.

Speaker 2 (09:28):
I mean, that's just one of those things. They're gonna
have that every time. Steve has to make them pay.

Speaker 1 (09:32):
Seven four ut Rio Grand Valley. He was sixteen fourteen
left for the first half. A sign up duel of
Keene dribbling left wing, goes cross court. Dk Thorn puts
it on the deck baseline right to drive the kick
left corner. Got the Winter up to a duel. Keene
turns it back out the Miller shot clock is down
to six. Ipe think we'll be saying that a lot
to that about all Carros. Here's Davis with three to

(09:53):
shoot with two O kick the Ganka hag. He'll try
a three and you'll hit it from the right wing.
Doesn't shoot many, but he is cape.

Speaker 3 (10:00):
But that's the example of the overhelping.

Speaker 2 (10:02):
We were talking out like Steve wanted to help just
because that's your tendency.

Speaker 3 (10:06):
You didn't need to help that much because they weren't
looking to get.

Speaker 1 (10:08):
To the paint ten four ut Rio Grand Valley four
and a half minutes gone by toan jay left corner.
Now dribbles along the baseline and gets foul and a
little hipcheck from d K four and that'll be his
first team second as we have our first media timeout

Kamario McGhee, quarter Gilmore on the floor for Wisconsin along
with Krawd, Blackwell and Tanja with the ball is John
Tanjay off the crowd screen three in the air straight away,

(11:12):
It's off the rim. No good Ashana duel to game
the rebound.

Speaker 2 (11:15):
And I anticipate more teams go under on those screens
on John and he got to the free the line
so much they're gonna fourth.

Speaker 3 (11:20):
From shoot three.

Speaker 1 (11:21):
So there's a kick cross court right wing. D k
Thorn tried to three just about the rim cleared by
Stephen Krow about five minutes gone by. Drew's trailing ten
to four crowd with a rible hand off to Tanjay
and hooks off a crowd screen again they went under
that now starting to back his Tanja backing in the
lane against Thord plupped it up right hand. No, but
guess what he got fouled and John Tanja will go

(11:43):
to the free throw line.

Speaker 2 (11:44):
But man, we were talking about this, but I just
anticipated as a coach, you get a guy that gets
a free throw line twenty one times in a game,
and I know he shoot had a good clip for.

Speaker 3 (11:56):
Free right now.

Speaker 1 (11:57):
Yeah, he was thirty nine percent of last year at Colorado.

Speaker 3 (12:00):
I mean, it's not like he can't.

Speaker 2 (12:01):
But you're not gonna let someone get to the line
as much as so you gotta change up your coverage.
As I anticipate going under, He's gonna hit a couple
of them. They'll have to change it go over. But
if I'm a coach, that's how I'm trying to guard John.

Speaker 1 (12:12):
Tanjo JJ Howard coming in for ut Rio Grand Valley.
DK Thorn just picked up his second foul, Howie Fleming
sixt' five, Richard Junior Howard sixty five software in the
game along with Marshall Destromo sixty nine, Red Scherd softmore
second free throw coming up for john Ton Jay who

(12:34):
was good on the first and he is good on
the second. He has had ninety five percent free throw
shooter through the first four games, ten to six. Ut
Rio Grand Valley leading Wisconsin with the more than five
minutes into the game in Madison, Howie Fleming picked up
by Carter Gilmour on the left wing, throw left side
to k t Rainey, who is averaging fifteen a game,
and now here's the drive to the rim lay I'm good.

(12:56):
Then counts an a foul. JJ Howard with the burst
the bucket and a foul. He'll go to the free
throw line.

Speaker 2 (13:04):
Right about the same time frame, Friday I said, Okay,
Wisconsin keys of the game, first one, get off to
a good start.

Speaker 3 (13:11):
Check Arizona. Well that box, we can't check it.

Speaker 1 (13:15):
No, we can't check out.

Speaker 3 (13:16):
That's not checked.

Speaker 2 (13:17):
You think get off to the start, you need to
get off too. Now again, cast opponents like this, you
normally can overcome that. But they haven't answered that question tonight.

Speaker 1 (13:26):
That was on John Tanja. He comes out as Exavier
amos Zian. Free throw is no good from Howard, appearing
in just his third game. The rebound tip out of
THENDS last touch by the Lacros is Game six the
ut Rio Grand Valley. He comes able a three and
two record and it leads right now twelve to six.

(13:46):
About five and a half minutes into the game.

Speaker 3 (13:48):
You're staying one to three one zone right now, yep, which.

Speaker 1 (13:50):
They have displayed a little bit in these first few games. Blackwell,
the right side darts are pass it. The Aame has
floats it up, nice touch. We'll go tipped up and
they'll get he'll count it and a foul basco or
to check that basket interference. There you go, goaltending. Give
Amos the bucket for an instant, I thought I was
an A and one, but in the cylinder that is

(14:13):
twelve eight ut rio grand valleys. Here Amos gets the
bucket and the Badgers are within four. Now are we
fleming up the floor full of vocarros. Shovels it through
Destromo at the top. Now JJ Howard driving left of
the lane picked up by nol in winter. Now and
is the pass flowing back out the rainy outside left

(14:35):
ten of the shacklote Estramo against Amos. He's off the
rainy outside left five to shoot. Here comes Flemming right
lane line to the cup of the layup is good
for Howie Fleming, you know, which is about seven a game,
and there's just.

Speaker 3 (14:48):
Too many straight line drives right now.

Speaker 1 (14:50):
They'll spin move all nights work. Blackwell cutting in the
lane up and in with a short jumper fourteen to
ten the Vocaros with thirteen forty left. Howard blows off
the right wing shot is stuffed by Klesband back out
the Howard feeds Fleming. Got Amos up on his feet.
Now trying to work inside is Hollie Fleming right block
kicks a past Destrimo. He'll try a three left of

(15:13):
the circle. No good, Exavier Amos. The rebound here comes
Kamari McGee throwing at Amos. Exavior at the top of
the circle kills the dribble, throwing to Max. Klesbant curls
around Amos, screens up the nol in winter outside right,
I hand off the blackwell another picked him up. Fourteen
to ten. Ut Rio Grand Valley thirteen oh nine left
to the first half Pleasbant curls off the left wing

(15:33):
of the lane, swoops to the rim and a passes
well off. The market comes down to Destrimo. It's an
empty possession for Wisconsin. Kt Ramy now stopped by Kamari
McGee right of the circle of past to Trey Miller.
Pull up that line jump is good. Miller with four
of the lead is six for the Vicaros sixteen to
ten ut Rio Grand Valley twelve forty five left to

(15:55):
the first half. Xavier Amos gives off the Blackwell around
the Amos ball Street ops right elbow, pops picks. Wow,
that's a mid range, right well, mid range.

Speaker 3 (16:05):
That beats it.

Speaker 2 (16:06):
John Blackbell's pretty good in the mid range. That's where
you yeah, you all right, like you understand, like that's
a strike.

Speaker 1 (16:10):
He's got a play two sixteen twelve ut Rio Grand Valley,
leading Wisconsin. Miller drives on mc gee off the left wing,
barreling into the lane. Am is trying to stop him.
They'll get a ballbow on Callmary McGee or reaching him.
It'll be the first on the senior proper scene and
Jack Jenicki coming in for Wisconsin for MaTx Klesmer. Jeneki

(16:32):
had nine points against Arizona on Friday Night, twelve twenty
three left and a half sixteen twelve ut Rio Grand
Valley is how Hee fleming one of the quick hitter.
The Rami has batted around. It's loose and it's thrown
right into the hands of Nolan Winter turn over ut
Rio Grand Valley. Jeniki jump pass him and the gee
goes inside the Winter and he gets hammered, and he'll

(16:54):
go to the free throw Lisle Janiki getting as started,
and then they eventually wrap it in to in Winter
and Winter will go to the free throw line.

Speaker 2 (17:02):
And offensively, Wisconsin's going to be able to get what
they want to get. The question that I have right
now is defensively, can they tighten it out?

Speaker 1 (17:11):
Yeah, there's a small lineup here, really small a decrimo.

Speaker 3 (17:16):
They list him at six ' nine.

Speaker 1 (17:18):
It looks like he is eye to eye pretty much
with Xavier Amos, but in otherwise the Badgers do have
a decidedly dancer. The first free throw is good for Winter.
A duel of Keen coming back in as JJ Howard
will sit down. A duel of Keen is six '
eight sixteen thirteen ut Rio Grand Valley, with twelve minutes

(17:40):
and thirteen seconds left to the first half. Winter with
three points. He had four against Arizona on Friday night.
Second free throw for Nolan is off the back of
the rim and inn and that nice little shooters kiss.
They're off the back of the rim and the Badgers
have it. Their first four free throws and they have

(18:01):
pulled within two Trey Miller against McGee. Between the circles,
I throw to a guel of Keene. He's matched up
with Xavier Amos right fat line, extended rula keem starting
to back mid post right lost the handle, gets to
pass away and walking with a ball is destrimo. Turnover
well the mccaros as we hit the under twelve media timeout.

not the fast start, but we've seen worse for Wisconsin.

Speaker 2 (19:17):
Sol Corret, Yeah, absolutely, And I think offensively, like I
said earlier, they're gonna be able to get whatever.

Speaker 3 (19:22):
They really kind of want. Defensively, it is where you
got to tighten up a little bit.

Speaker 2 (19:27):
And I think you know right now when you look
at you know, that huddle today with Greig saying, de
let's stick to our principles, it's and it's a tough
matchup because you naturally you want to help and against
this team you can't help as much as you want
to or you know, just it's tendency wise, right, you go,
go go, and you're a second too late.

Speaker 1 (19:50):
This game a part of the Greenbrier tip off, by
the way, Uh, they'll go down to West Virginia. The
Badgers will on Friday afternoon to take on Central Florida,
LSU and PIT the other teams.

Speaker 3 (20:05):
A nice little tournament that is not nice semi photos.

Speaker 1 (20:09):
Hi, Well, thanks, I appreciate you not all.

Speaker 2 (20:11):
But you're gonna have your stake dinner Friday night. I mean,
you're gonna let I know what you guys do on
those football trips yeah, I mean at basketball trips, we
eat at Wendy's. But I mean that's same football trips.
I know you guys have steak dinners and red wine
every night.

Speaker 3 (20:25):
That's fine.

Speaker 1 (20:26):
I like Wendy's. Trey Miller, by the way, he called
for a foul. But the other best part about Friday
night is that Tauscher is buying, which has been you.

Speaker 3 (20:33):
Won't catch me doing that? Well, man, no wonder. We're
going to a fast food place.

Speaker 1 (20:39):
But yeah, we know all about you.

Speaker 3 (20:41):
I'll get some cookie sellwhere delivered it.

Speaker 1 (20:43):
Bounce pass is caught by Stephen kraw Quote Agua defending
him off the bench and here's crowd just backing him down,
turning and scoring with the right hand over the six
to six Quote Agua senior at a Calgary and we're
tied at sixteen, and he's raimy trying to three up
top of these splash its first he's forty two percent.

Speaker 3 (21:03):
He did that to Paul. That's what he does.

Speaker 1 (21:06):
Yep. It was about seven a game for the Blue
Demons last year, nineteen sixteen. The Mcaro's This Clusby gets
fouled about thirty feet from the hoo. But that is
Howie Fleming getting him. That's two on him. John Tonjay
will re enter for John Blackwell nineteen sixteen U t
Rio Grand Valley leading Wisconsin, eleven fifteen left for the
first half. Fleming sits down. Cliff Davis is back in

(21:31):
so already two mccaros with two fouls Foreign and Fleming
Ton Jay left sideline and bounds of Clement Klesbitt. Rather,
they work at the crowd, back out to Xavier Amos
to throw it a Max top of the circle. Burn
is out on Max, who gives it up the crowd
right of the circle, darts it inside, caught by Amos,
turns in the lane up left hand back. They're no

(21:51):
good rebound tipped trying to save it as Davis threw
it right to Amos low in the right and the
layup is good. X with four and it's nineteen into
eighteen UT Rio Grand Valley tied forty eight left first half.
Here's Cliff Davis, you're ruling into the lane, gets it
out of their Agwa tries a three left wing and
he nails it. That's only the third attempts for him

(22:13):
from distance of this young season twenty two to eighteen
u t Rio Grand Valley a ten and a half
minutes left to the first half, brow throwing to Kamori.
McGhee being chased, now doubled outside right, I passed for Amos,
whips of the Tanja open three right wing, good con
Tanja with five as the Badgers pulled him within one

(22:35):
twenty two to twenty one. The Vicaro's ten fifteen left
to the first half. Trey Miller left hand dribble along
the left sideline in front of Badger's head coach Greg
Guard around the Agua screen, going it to Abdul Hakeem
right wing, defended by Xavier Amos, left tan toss Augua
at the top, then hand off the Trey Miller being
crowded by McGee. Miller bounces inside, caught by Augua low

(22:56):
on the right. Up God it it counts and he
was fouled by Mary McGhee another and one as McGhee
now with two fouls.

Speaker 3 (23:06):
Where it was a lake switch Big Steed's out hedging it.
He gets kind of lost in it and then he
has to try.

Speaker 2 (23:12):
To get back because Lillard goes by him, and then
Mark jud To come across, and that's where the file happens.

Speaker 1 (23:19):
So Camari comes out Blackwell's back in twenty four to
twenty one. Ut Rio Grand Valley with nine to fifty
five left in the half, fourth stop on the college
tour for quot Agua State College at Florida, Howard College,
Texas A and M Commerce and he hits the free

(23:39):
throw and he has six points and it's a four
point lead for the Vicaro's nine to fifty left in
the first half. Savior Amos outside left feeds Max klesmant
top of the arc. Max left hand ribble stops the
free throw line, bounces am As three in the air
left wing book it like Savior Amos with seven off
the bench. Five twenty four ut Rio Grand Valley. I

(24:02):
go at the top of the circle, hands off k
t Ramy as Klesba defends at the top of the circle,
Ramy going over to Cliff Davis of the right wing.
Tanja is on him. I go out top of the circle,
left corner feet driving his biller kickback left side, three
shot Ramy good again kt Raimy his second long ball.

Speaker 2 (24:23):
That's the again. That's what they do though they're looking
to get the three.

Speaker 1 (24:27):
They're five out of ten twenty eight twenty four U
t Rio Grand Valley nine oh four left to the
first half, crawl outside right scoops to the John Blackwell
curl around the screen, step back three on the way
good Blackwell with seven twenty eight twenty seven ut Rio
Grand Valley with eight to fifty left to the first
half and the pass almost olely by Blackwell, but getting

(24:51):
it as Trey Millard dribbles through the ling going left
to right and at the big Krow is on him.
So if Miller tries to go to work, starts to
throws it back out agwall, he'll try three straight away
back rim no good rebound Stephen Crow for Wisconsin eight
thirty left in the half. Twenty eight twenty seven ut
Rio Grand Valley cleusban with it, bounce for Xavier Amos
driving to the rim upright hand glassing rim no but

(25:12):
a foul. As Xavier Amos into attack Moate, He'll go
to the free throw line.

Speaker 2 (25:17):
And why this is such a hard guard right now
is because Miller's driving.

Speaker 3 (25:23):
And he's getting into the paint.

Speaker 2 (25:25):
But he's not looking at school. Yeah, he's looking to
kick it and find the shooter. Yeah, And so that's
why it's so different, and that's why you're seeing so
many open threes for Rio Grand Valley, because you're just
you're you're playing off your tendency and now all of
a sudden you're a second late.

Speaker 3 (25:42):
Three is going up.

Speaker 1 (25:44):
Xavier Amos at the free throw line, transfer out of
Northern Illinois, and he's good with the first free throw. Yeah,
eight points on Friday against Arizona. Oldtle Wincher. You're back
in for Stephen Crowell, Tommy Ganka hag back in there
for the mccarros.

Speaker 3 (26:01):
And good is the ex getting going here?

Speaker 2 (26:03):
A little bit right, a little slow started even though
eight points that can sit against you know, Arizona, but
start to the season not necessarily what everyone anticipated.

Speaker 3 (26:12):
Really good to kind of see him put it together.

Speaker 1 (26:14):
It's a feeling this could be a good kind of
game for him, and that has been the case. You
said this for the last couple of games. I really
like what they've seen out of him lately. But as
just as I say that, exploding off the wing as
a side of duel, lah Keene, he got by Amos
and punched it with a right hand, and Amos has
called for the foul as well. So again that ad

(26:36):
letticism the burst from asade of Duel h Hakeem and
it's thirty to twenty nine. Ut Rio Grand Valley is
Amos is out. Carter Gilmore is in a little lesson
there and that's like maximum chinks bode on my part.
Oh yeah, frethrow keen. That was a little poster material there.

(27:01):
Thirty one twenty nine. The Macarros play this game long enough,
you're gonna get done. Uh huh. If it hasn't happened,
I means you just haven't played much. Right. Here's Nolan
Winter in the lane, gets it back out that john
Tonjay stops lost the ball. Ganka Hack comes up with
a turnover Wisconsin. The duel Hakeem to the front court
off the high screen from Ganka Hagg driving on Gilmore

(27:23):
fans out near the right corner. Nolan Winter gets him
on a switch a three shot in the air is
off the rim, short rebound john Ton Jay for Wisconsin.
Badger's down two seven forty three left and a half
long pass Blackwell and to Nolan Renner Winter on the
rim run he'll catch and lay it in. We're tied
at thirty one.

Speaker 2 (27:40):
Sit a lot of offense and you're gonna get whatever
you want. You just have to guard on this end.

Speaker 1 (27:45):
Fourteen to ten paint point advantage for Wisconsin right now
a duel Hakeem outside left thirty one thirty one, the
score seven to twenty two. Left to the first half. J.
C Raimi right wing hooks a pass back to JJ Howard.
He's what's Clemson Howard little crossover right of the lane,
lost the handle and threw it away and in the
hands of john tonjre Tanja on the push for Wisconsin

be his first. As we're at the under eight media timeout,

to the free throw line. Eighteen fouls on ut Rio

with the line. He has five points so far in
this game. Tanja I as the rim and the front

the free throw line. Thirty two to thirty one Wisconsin.
Second free throw coming up for Tanjay on the way
and it's good. Thirty three thirty one Wisconsin. Seven h

five left to the first half. It's Ray Miller to
the front court. I bounce for a duel of King
Gilmore defending. Now gank you hag top of the circle.
Match up with Winter a road of Miller outside left
with Tanja on them.

Speaker 3 (29:44):
Miller pounding to dribble and a whiskey.

Speaker 2 (29:46):
Yeah, it's it's a fouling Carter a duel and Keen
was trying to post up and the car just got
that knee intern just they're not really trying to get
it in there. You're forced able. You've done your job.
You've forced them off the block. Now backup so you
don't get the cheap one.

Speaker 1 (30:04):
Yep, that was well up the lane line.

Speaker 3 (30:05):
Here it was away. Do your job early and you
don't have to worry about it.

Speaker 1 (30:10):
The duel that came in bound again, it's deflected out
of bounds by Carter Gilmore. They be pleased with Gilly
just handling that roll. Defensive work. Here's he in bounce Bafe.
They want the quick Hittery and Cliff Davis and he
gets covered up, gets it out of there to Miller,
refeeds Davis back out the trey. Miller throwing the Yankee hack.

(30:32):
Top of the circle. You'll give off to a duel.
H Keene puts it on the deck, driving to the
rim and the layup is good again that burst to
get to the rim.

Speaker 3 (30:38):
He's really quick that first step of his He gets.

Speaker 1 (30:41):
It thirty three. All was six and a half minutes
left till halftime. Gilmore top of the circle for Wisconsin
bounces the winter at the top of the keys. It's
the clubs. He'll snap off the three back of the rim.
No good kilmore the offensive rebound. Gillie's try to slip
it past a Blackwell. It was knocked away by Raymie
and then Blackwell man. For John that'll be his first.

Speaker 3 (31:04):
Put three o Grand Valley on the line in the bonus.

Speaker 1 (31:06):
Situation there as well number seven on Wisconsin, and for
Blackwell his first. The k t Raimy goes to the
foul line. The Vacaro's coming in sixty eight percent of
the free throw line, and they all shoot a lot
of foul shots, very much in contrast to Wisconsin, maybe

(31:29):
two of two in the short sample size. But he
hits the front end here and U t Rio Grand
Valley with a lead again.

Speaker 2 (31:35):
And you look at how they got to the free
throw line. Now the ball screen action they went under
that Max shoots that three. I think there's Max is
trying to figure out what what the threes they're looking
for when, because he can get that three at any
point and if the shot clock they were going to
go under it. So I love that shot attempt by Max.
And what happens, you know, long rebound and all this

(31:57):
other stuff.

Speaker 1 (31:57):
Well, free throws are good. Thirty five thirty three three
ut Rio Grand Valley six fifteen left to the first half.
Carter Gilmour out front, a pass for Max Klesman on
the left wing, put toss for kraw one dribble, He'll
hand it to Tanja. Tanjay into the paint, gets it
out of there to Stephen Krawe backing mid post ride,
turns up left hand back rim no good at the

(32:17):
rebound of Tommy Ganga Hag of the Vet Carols and
Cliff Davis to the front court out Duela Keem with
a shot fake for three, not biting his Gilmour, he'll
drive it right lane line spins, fades, flips good Hassan
of dul Hakeem in. It's thirty seven thirty three ut
Rio Grand Valley and that's.

Speaker 2 (32:35):
Where cars got to stay on his feet. He gets
raised up and all of a sudden it gets just
a little bit of an angle to him.

Speaker 1 (32:41):
Five and a half min it's left in the first half.
Klesbit trying to drive along the left baseline and gets
fouled by Cliff Davis and Nut's team found number nine,
so Max will get a one in one. You ever
hear problem, it's been looking for his first points of
the night. Ganga Hag comes out. He's back in as
Marshall Destromo the sixty nine a red shirt Saltmore from

(33:03):
Australia clesband at thirteen on Friday night against Arizona. The
front end is good for Max, so again the free
throw line Wisconsin's friend, but the Vicios really shooting it.
They're fourteen to twenty two for the field here tonight.

Speaker 2 (33:23):
The defensively has not been one that you want to
put on paper news.

Speaker 1 (33:27):
Second free throw from Max is good. He remains perfect
in the line in this young portion of the seasons,
seventeen to seventeen. As Wisconsin pols to within two, the
Little Haqueen throwing into destrom Mot top of the circle,
feeds Trey Miller high on the left. The pass for Ramy.
He'll lift up a three and drill it from left
to the circle his third triple.

Speaker 2 (33:47):
And all they're doing is sitting a cross green into
a pin down for Rain and.

Speaker 1 (33:50):
A five point lead for the Vicaros. Five to ten
left to the first half. Pater Gilmore throwing a closeban
at the left point. Took a look, now puts it
on the deck, brings it back outside the three point line.
A pass for Stephen Crow at the top. Krow whips
it back to Gilmour. Shot clock at ten Klesbant top
of the ark for Wisconsin. The duel Hadem defending Klesban
working the right lane line to the Rams swoops it

(34:12):
up and end. Forty to thirty seven ut Rio Grand
Valley four to forty five left to the first half.
Trey Miller high in the right throwing to Destrimo. He'll
scoop it back the Miller left of the circle around
the screen, pull up bid range jump good. Oh, they
are feeling it here in this first half of a
Caro Star forty two thirty seven ut Rio Grand Valley

(34:34):
four twenty seven left to the first half. Tanja Dot
looking for that pass who went by him? But Gilmour
is there at the mid court logo. Now Klesban loots
it inside, caught by crowd looking for the cutter. Tij
pass deflected by Ramies stole it away Miller a lead
feed to Abdul Hakeem moving in. Lord took an extra
step and looked like lost his balance. Then they'll say
knocked out of balance by Carter Gilmore. The Carrol's wont

(34:57):
coop it. His amos is back in for Gilmour.

Speaker 3 (35:00):
Right now Gilmore goes out.

Speaker 2 (35:01):
But even though there's an advantage in the post with Steve,
I wouldn't be surprised if we see at some point
here Greg go a little bit small. Yeah, because Steve
just doesn't dominate. And then defensively it's tough because they're
not trying to get the paint the dual.

Speaker 1 (35:15):
Hakeem throwing into Destromo baseline left now he's opened just
under the arc left side. Tries a jumper, no good rebound.
Tanjay Here comes john Tonjay for Wisconsin. Four minutes left
in the half forty two to thirty seven ut Rio
Grand Valley inside feed caught by Kraal, throws it up
and missed. He's found by Destromo and Crow will go
to the free throw line at the under four minutes timeouts.

ours there's a prouds padre Wisconsin app I need to
reminds everyone to save big money on all your whole
improvement to each that's binars three minutes fifty eight seconds
left of the first half, ut Rio Grand Valley, forty two, Wisconsin,
thirty seven. The Vicos are sixty four percent for the

(36:21):
field sixteen to twenty five and six of thirteen from
the arc. Badgers are pretty good too, fifty seven percent
for the field, ten of ten at the fallon. Both
teams are in that one and a half points per
procession territory. So great offense, we'll say, let's.

Speaker 3 (36:38):
Yeah, but that's what we're gonna leave there, there's no question.

Speaker 2 (36:41):
And thankfully for Wisconsin, they're still getting to the free
throw line. Yes, I think that's the biggest thing when
you look at this is youah offense, but you can
kind of get whatever you want, but there's still be
disciplined enough to get to the free throw line.

Speaker 1 (36:53):
First free throw for Stevie is good you had mentioned,
but this could be one of those nights again where
the Badgers go smaller. We've seen that right, Tanna state,
grapp state. It's interesting to watch this as we move forward.
Crowd misses the second free throw. Aam is trying to
keep it alive, but Destrimon comes up with the first
miss of the fat line of the Badgers.

Speaker 3 (37:10):
And a lot of that is just because of the Steve.
The play of Steve right yep.

Speaker 1 (37:15):
Forty two thirty eight, the Vicar's here's Ramy driving baseline
left eats Davis d three right corner, yes, sir, oh my,
and a time out taken by great guard as a cliff.
Davis was leaning out of bounds. I mean he barely
stayed in bounds in the right corner. All this you're hot,

(37:35):
You're hot, and he is. And it's forty five thirty eight.
The mccarro's leading the Badgers.

Speaker 2 (37:40):
You could be hot all you want, but Max's cousband,
he's paying attention.

Speaker 3 (37:43):
What's going on. I mean he just fell asleep.

Speaker 2 (37:46):
Now there was a backscreen that forced him to the corner,
which drive baseline.

Speaker 3 (37:51):
This is is a call.

Speaker 2 (37:52):
It's a play right to have that backstreak come up.
But Max was paying zero attention.

Speaker 1 (37:59):
Yeah, up, do they have to commit teammates gott to
talk to him a little bit.

Speaker 2 (38:02):
They got to talk a little bit, but at some
point Max played basketball long.

Speaker 1 (38:06):
And not a rookie.

Speaker 2 (38:07):
I'm not trying to be difficult on Max because I
we The reason I'm difficult on him now is because
we know what he's about, yep, And you just don't
see Max Klesman do that right now. Again, it was
a play, and so he did. There was a little
bit of a screen there. So should there be some
communication always?

Speaker 3 (38:25):
Always right? There should always be communication.

Speaker 1 (38:27):
I'm guessing that's the last time he gets caught up.

Speaker 3 (38:29):
I'm gonna agree with that.

Speaker 1 (38:30):
Here we go, three thirty eight left of the first half,
Badgers down seven. As far as he goes to the
crowd low on the left and he'll finish. Agree the
big fella.

Speaker 2 (38:38):
And there you go, right like, if you want to
be in the fort those are the plays that you
need to keep youing.

Speaker 1 (38:42):
Forty five forty Texas Rio Grand Valley leading Trey Miller
off the left point, stops left elbow. DAAs is wanting
to get destri Mold, but he goes throw him out
of the ounce turnover with Carrows forty five forty ut
Rio Grand Valley leading Wisconsin with three twenty. He left
in the first half into that out there with Amos Kraw,
Jack Jennicky and Max Klesman can save your Amus at

(39:05):
the top which is the Klesban high and the left
whistle off the ball.

Speaker 2 (39:08):
Foul called and all they're doing is running a cry
an angle screen more than a cross screen. Because Steves
has the ball on the reversal it swung guard cuts
through comes back, sets that angle screen.

Speaker 3 (39:21):
For Steve to go to the block. There he gets
the free throw.

Speaker 1 (39:24):
Life Destromo the foul his second Stephen Kroud back at
the foul line. Seven points in the first half form
shooting two with the Badgers in the double bonus and
the first is good as Ganka Hagg will come back
in for Destromo. Gank You Hagg the six eight sophomore
from Mongolia but went to high school in Centerville, Ohio.

(39:45):

Speaker 3 (39:58):
A sign a duel.

Speaker 1 (39:59):
Ke goes into Gangka Hag midpost left, turns upright hand shot,
wild shot, no good rebound fought four knocked at the bounds,
last touch by Ganka Hag, and there's the Badger's trying
to tighten up that interior. D getting a stop and
get it back down three two fifty four left of
the first half. Forty five forty two ut Rio Grand
Valley Blackwell up the floor for the Badger's ice cream crowd.

(40:23):
John'll use it, ribbles to his right, whips it inside,
wide open crowdlow on the right.

Speaker 3 (40:26):
It goes up.

Speaker 1 (40:27):
There was backed away by Cliff Davis, but he got somebody,
but they say no, it was ball. Here's Davis face
the three blows by crowd, swoops to the rim, flipped
it up in him of the left hand. What a
sequence for Davis. Forty seven forty two ut Rio Grand Valley,
now Blackwell, driving left lane line touch, banked it in

(40:47):
it worked forty seven to forty four ut Rio Grand
Valley two eighteen left of the first half. Trey Miller
outside right flips the Tommy Ganka Hagg at the top
of the circle, whips it to Davis set the right
ball around the Gankahag screen, turns the corner in the lane,
goes to the rim upright in good again off the window.

(41:07):
Forty nine forty four U t Rio Grand Valley. Two
minutes left to the half. Here's Amos open three left
of the circle, in and out, no good. Davis the
rebound for the Vocaro's lead the Badgers by five or
the minute fifty left to the first half. Ramy off
the Ganka Hagg screen. Three in the air, not this
time off balance with that shot, and it comes down
to Xavier Amis now Blackwell trying to push for Wisconsin.

(41:28):
Hard left hand ribble into the lane, hits the brakes
up the left block and gets fout and Blackwell will
shoot two all assists. Be good to Amy.

Speaker 3 (41:40):
That was a good shit. That's a lot of talking, right, A.

Speaker 1 (41:43):
Lot of work. Hell you want too, lovery, I'm good.

Speaker 3 (41:46):
Reasons, a lot of talk. This thing's going back and forth.

Speaker 1 (41:48):
Real quick, kind of like what we thought you knew,
well cool, kind of like what you thought could have
I was.

Speaker 2 (41:53):
Gonna say, you know, texts real Grand Valley. They were
gonna do this at some point, we know what guys
wants to play fast? Does that play smarter?

Speaker 1 (42:02):
Yep?

Speaker 3 (42:02):
First free throw? Around it out, don't fall into it
like that.

Speaker 2 (42:07):
There's a difference, especially after putting up one hundred against Arizona.
It's tough to kind of just understand go go go,
but understand how to kind of slow it down but
yet still play fishing.

Speaker 1 (42:20):
Blackwell hits the second free throw forty nine forty five
U t Rio Grand Valley, one thirty five left of
the first half. Trey Miller out high.

Speaker 3 (42:29):
J J.

Speaker 1 (42:30):
Howard back in there for the Vocaros. Here's a duel hakeem.
They just exager Amos sosado duel Lakeem looking lower on
the right, pass stolen away in the lane by Jack Janicki.
Janicki with the pil for darts a pass. Klesman fakes
the three left corner, dribbles off the wing into the paint.
Clesban backs up to the top of the arc as
he'll start to set the floor for Wisconsin. Gives it

(42:50):
up to Amos high on the lefts one O nine
left of the half, adgers down four pleasment out high.
Survey's the defense of sable duel l Keem defending in
the gay pleas met space and he hits a D
three as the Badgers pull him within one fifty five
seconds left tail halftime forty nine forty eight ut Rio

(43:10):
Grand Valley and now the hill Fanel will take his
user to loser time out. Fifty two point two left
in the half, twenty three on the shot clock, forty
nine forty eight ut Rio Grand Valley leading Wisconsin.

Speaker 2 (43:23):
That three Max Tesman can think Jack to me for
that one big too. It was, I mean, that's how
it happened. And as soon as Max had the ball
with twelve on the chako lit we all knew the
ball was going up. Like it was going up. You
could see him in his like saying his bag right,
and this is where hands down like he never was
able to get it, Like you knew it was.

Speaker 1 (43:42):
Going up, so hand down, man down right.

Speaker 3 (43:45):
But that's what Max could do so well.

Speaker 2 (43:47):
But he could have taken the first were talked about
understanding how to play it. He could have taken the
first three. Yeah, he didn't drove, got to the paint,
didn't see.

Speaker 3 (43:55):
Anything, pulled it back out. That last three he took.

Speaker 2 (43:58):
I was absolutely fine with Chocola's going down Like those
are the threes you looked with versus pulling up and
driving and getting the mid range. That's the difference this year.

Speaker 3 (44:07):
Now.

Speaker 2 (44:07):
Defensively, this team just needs to be better. Yeah, forty
nine points they've given up.

Speaker 1 (44:13):
Are you're thinking we talked about one hundred the other night?
One hundred may not be enough this kid way this
game is going so but just.

Speaker 2 (44:19):
The way they've gone, it hasn't been a lot of time,
That's what I'm saying.

Speaker 3 (44:22):
Yeah, for sure.

Speaker 1 (44:23):
It bounce pass Adulah Keem, he's against Xavier aim As
a hand off to Trey Miller, chucked tightly by John
Blackwell shot clock at fifteen game clock, forty four seconds
left first half. A bounce for Ganka Hagg at the
top of the arc one dribble gives it back to
Miller off the Ganka Hagg screen to throw back past
three in the air Gankka Hagg left side, no good
and the rebound comes down Hallway offensive board for Howard

(44:43):
has pass knocked away by Janicki, taken away from him
and now Miller finds abdulah Keem right side three and
he nails it on a scramble play fifty two forty
eight ut Rio Grand Valley with eighteen seconds left in
the half. Shot clock is dark. This could be the
final possession here Blackwell outside left, Badger's down four. We

(45:04):
have ten seconds left to the half. Blackwell turns down
the crowd screen left of the lane, stops Pivots tough
shot of the fadeaway short Ganka Hagg the rebound with
two with one long bomb shot from Miller is short,
and ut Rio Grand Valley will go into the locker
room with a four point lead. The mccarros have come

(45:27):
to play here in Madison tonight, shooting sixty two percent
from the field at the half. Ut Rio Grand Valley
fifty two, Wisconsin forty eight. We're back with a halftime
report presented by Culvers. This is Badger basketball from lear
Field in regular second half. Ut Rio Grand Valley fifty two,

(45:50):
Wisconsin forty eight. Now we've seen in the particularly the
app State game, the Badger defense.

Speaker 3 (45:56):
When we started to turn to the top of the bason.

Speaker 1 (45:59):
You'll see if they can do that here tonight after
a very high scoring first half.

Speaker 2 (46:03):
And again the reason this is a little bit more
difficult than Appstate was and is because of the three
point shooting. When you look at Texas Real Grand Valley,
they're wanting to get to the paint, but they're wanting
to get to the paint to create threes. Yes, and
that's the difference. And when you overhelp, now all of
a sudden you give different looks. So it's going against

(46:25):
your tendencies, which is very difficult. But there's always was
a game like this that the coach is scheduled and
O Bo had you know it is, and this is
now one where you check yourself, get your stance, play
and guard.

Speaker 1 (46:38):
It's a program with five returning players, five Division one transfers.
They hit the junior college circuit as well, as I
mentioned first year for the Vicaro from the Saplin Conference
after an eleven year run in the Whack. So with
the ut Rio Grand Valley, the first possession moving to

(46:59):
our left with a fifty two to forty eight lead
and are underway and Trey Miller match up with John
Blackwell between the circles. The pass that was flicked by
the winter but gathered by Abdul Hakeem now Tommy Ganka
hagg is off to Cliff Davis trying to three in airball.
Thorn trying to save it, but he goes through the
hands of Ganka Hag that out of bounce of Cliff

(47:20):
Davis not wasting any time. He was two to four
from three in the first half, but airballs won. The
Badgers now with their first possession, moving two our rights
on zone. Yes they are yes, they've mixed it up
in the first half. Blackwell finds kraw right elbow out
the max wide open three left wing off the rim.
No good. The reboundh Wassaan Abdul Hakeem outlet the Davis

(47:43):
on the run of the front court going to a duel.
Hakeem of three in the airs right away is short.
The rebound to Stephen Krow now Here it comes Blackwell four.
Wisconsin right, just trailing by four early second half, Tan
Jay for three left side that bangs off the rim.

(48:06):
John going to work ball screen Winter to the free

wing to the rim, push it up in traffic, not
to way get gag is there? Not to way Klesman,
and it goes off of the Viccarros and out of bound.

(48:49):
So Max staying with it, and this possession will continue.

Speaker 2 (48:54):
When you sit at Max stayed with it because I
didn't think there was a foul. He was looking for
the contact. I thought that was pretty good defense there.
But then he stayed with it.

Speaker 1 (49:02):
In bounce past Blackwell baseline right looking, bounces a crowd
back to Blackwell the right wing, John dribbles off the

Good And that was the first shot that was in
the paint taking of the second half by either team and.

Speaker 1 (49:18):
At twenty gone by second half fifty two to fifty

He'll drive off the right wing to the rim of
the layup is good and off the turnover. The lead
back to six for ut Rio Grand Valley.

Speaker 2 (50:35):
And it's the turnovers right now. It's not the shot selection.
It's just you can't have those turnovers.

Speaker 1 (50:40):
Here a couple of them early in the second half.
They had five of the first fifty six to fifty
ut Rio Grand Valley. Here's John Tanjay baseline. Ryan runs
it back out the crow right point, flips the winter

but he missed the layup rebound cleared by Gilmore and
now Blackwell on the push for Wisconsin circles outside left.

on the right side. He'll dribble off the wing in
the paint pushed it up, missed, but he was fouled,
and Max Klesman will go to the line for a
pair of shocks.

Speaker 2 (52:31):
And man, you don't make this move to go small
because of the offensive end. You make that move to
a small because of the defensive yep. And we talk
a lot about the ball movement body movement on the
offensive side, that's also true on the defensive side. And
right now that the first problem defensively is just their

(52:53):
straight line drives.

Speaker 3 (52:54):
Yeah, like there is no need.

Speaker 2 (52:56):
To help because if they're going by the defender right away,
so we don't see the lot Like right now takes

able to get what they want. You go small because
defensively this group needs to get stops. They need to
be disciplined enough and get through screens and bike through
screens and.

Speaker 1 (55:27):
Make it difficult and bounce past McGee to Gilmore. He'll
give it up. The tan j fines McGee who slips,
falls down and lost the ball and Howie Flemy comes

Stuff that won't make the highlight shows, there's stuff that
coaches and most importantly the teammates. They know the value
of all that.

Speaker 3 (01:05:48):
They are with one point nine.

Speaker 2 (01:05:49):
What they have done is run that backscreen to bring

in there running that same play something keep an eye on.
With six thirteen two wiscons could steal a possession later on.

Speaker 1 (01:12:17):
Five on the floor. Blackwell, McGee pleasment Gilmore and Tanjay

Hakeem outside left taking a look deep three left.

Speaker 3 (01:13:46):
Side in and out.

Speaker 1 (01:13:47):
No good, halfway down and out. Blackwell on the piece.
Now it comes to McGee on the push for Wisconsin.
Camori hands off the Tanjay at the top of the circle.
He'll send it to Max Klesman high on the left,
gives it up the gil turns it to McGee on
the right side. Camari bounces a tanj long three left side,
got it, John tanj with thirteen Badgers lead seventy four

(01:14:10):
seventy two, five minutes remaining at the Coal Center. Here's
Trey Miller to the front court. Bailer darts at the
Ganka Hag top of the circle. Back the Miller right
elbow jumper good Trey Miller with another bucket, and we're
tied at seventy four.

Speaker 2 (01:14:28):
Four forty five remaining. Now they're gonna go zone here.
The problem with this is you don't have that other
big in there. You've slidded John too.

Speaker 3 (01:14:34):
That force.

Speaker 2 (01:14:35):
They's playing out of position against that zone. That's why
they've struggled a little bit against it.

Speaker 1 (01:14:39):
Here's Kamari McGee in the lane, kicks it out to
Blackwell left corner, coming up by Abdul Hakeem. Blackwell brings
it back out front ten on the shot clock. He
loops a past the Klesban foul line turn around jumper
good Max kles member eleven Badgers leads seventy six seventy
four four eighteen remaining at the Coal Center. Bailer throwing
the Ganka Hag at the top of the circle. Gilmore defense.

(01:15:00):
A hand off the Cliff Davis chase by Klesman Damus
passing inside. It got there to Gigag wild shot missed,
but the foul on Carter Gilmore Kika Hack drawing that
contact and Gilly has called for his second foul. Tommy
Ganka Hagg at the free throw line.

Speaker 3 (01:15:16):
I do think David might have got away with a
carry on that.

Speaker 1 (01:15:19):
One four O seven remaining seventy four. Make that seventy
six seventy four Wisconsin.

Speaker 3 (01:15:31):
Thank you Hagg.

Speaker 1 (01:15:33):
Four foul shot attempts for him so far this season.
First free throw nook too long? Yeahs eight points. Tonight
is Ganka Hagg, a couple of threes and a two
point shot. Davis out kt Raymie back in a more
free throw coming up hold a sophomore. After missing the first,

(01:15:55):
he is good with the second seventy six seventy five Wisconsin.
How he fleming back in as Ghanka Hagg will sit
down and Stephen Crow will re enter for Gilmore. So
we'll see you now if the mccarrol's stay in that zone,
if that opens up something, if.

Speaker 2 (01:16:13):
And we'll see along Steve's in here because four seven
next media timeout is there. I think defensively they've been
all right this year. You can get him in for
an offensive possession.

Speaker 1 (01:16:20):
He's ton Jay driving off the left wing, lost the
he got set to the floor. Well say, lost his
balance because he got drilled. They're gonna get Howie Fleming
with a foul, his third and the team's seventh. So
one on one coming up and play continues. We'll take
a break with exactly four minutes to play Wisconsin seventy six,

(01:16:42):
ut Rio Grand Valley seventy five. This is Badger of
Basketball from lear Field, tying to pick tonight's Old Dominion
Best of the Game, brought to you by Old Dominion Freightline.
A career high twenty five points for John blackwallso has
six rebounds and three assists so far. Old Dominion Freightline
works hard to be the best of the game and

(01:17:04):
is proud to be the official freight carrier of Wisconsin Athletics.
Four minutes to play seventy six seventy five Wisconsin leading
ut Real Grand Valley. Good night for a career high
for John Blackman is.

Speaker 2 (01:17:20):
And I Funny.

Speaker 3 (01:17:22):
Field that career hi better not be it if they're.

Speaker 1 (01:17:24):
Going to get a win here, yeah, and be a
little bit more here.

Speaker 3 (01:17:28):
John gets to the free throw line here for two bonus.
Excuse me, but.

Speaker 2 (01:17:36):
You look at who's on the floor again, Steve crows
out there was the seven minutes he was in and
that's exactly what Greg did in that position.

Speaker 1 (01:17:44):
The Badgers are sixteen of twenty at the foul line tonight.
The Vicarrols are five of seven. John Tanjay with thirteen points.
The free throw is good. One more is coming on
in the front end. Fourteen now for tan Jay this evening.

(01:18:06):
Second free throw coming up on the way straight through.
Seventy eight seventy five, Wisconsin, four minutes to play. Howie
Fleming slowed, jogs in across the mid strike Tonjy digging in.
Fleming off the miller screen, off the left wing, lay up,
a tempt no good, way too strong. Hakeem comes up

(01:18:28):
with it and rip the word jump ball hill ball
errow Wisconsin.

Speaker 2 (01:18:37):
Joe.

Speaker 1 (01:18:37):
He stopped for the Badgers.

Speaker 2 (01:18:40):
It was the help side by Carter Gilmore to make
shit that missed. That layup was missed, and then the
guards came in and rebounded the bad layup and you
have to rebound.

Speaker 1 (01:18:52):
It's five, and they did. Ton Jay front cord left,
quick pass, Blackwell gets at the Gilmour at the top,
turns to Klesman hind the right the sign Abdul Hakeem
defending Max Tanja barreling left and laying got fouled by Fleming.
One in one coming up for Tanjay on team fout
number eight and the fourth personal on Holie Fleming three

(01:19:12):
thirty four remaining seventy eight seventy five Wisconsin. As we
go back to get the ball to Melvin porton ball,
let him run into him, run off to see what happens.
Yet win one for Tanjay, fifteen points for him. Tonight
front end is good.

Speaker 2 (01:19:35):
What a luxury too. I mean to have a guy
that gets the free throw line but then gets you.
Maybe be quiet.

Speaker 1 (01:19:48):
Second free throw gets to the line in adverts eighty
to seventy five Wisconsin. Tanja hit them both three and
a half minutes to play, Ali Fleming on the left
side against Kamari McGee. Fleming backing on McGee is still
backing and McGee went down. They played thriller. The layup
is good for Howie Fleming.

Speaker 2 (01:20:10):
That plays almost been taken out right the charge like
there's no reason to do it anymore.

Speaker 3 (01:20:15):
You just gotta stay through it.

Speaker 1 (01:20:17):
Eighty to seventy seven Wisconsin, three ten remaining like gee
outside right the top of the circle throws to Blackwell,
takes it off the right wing. John in the paint
fades fires, not this time off the left side.

Speaker 2 (01:20:30):
Of the rim.

Speaker 1 (01:20:30):
No good kt Ramy. The rebound here come of a
caros Howie Fleming on the left side. Try that back
down on Tanjay his post left runs it back out.
The Ramy refeeds Fleming left wing and Ramy play catch
with fifteen oh shot clock behind the back triple lost
the handle. It'll go out of bounds to Wisconsin.

Speaker 3 (01:20:49):
John Blackwell was a great one on one.

Speaker 2 (01:20:52):
We've talked about how for the majority of the night
it's been straight line drives right there. John Blackwell sat
down in his stands and said, you aren't going yep anywhere.

Speaker 1 (01:21:02):
To forty three remaining. Eighty to seventy seven, Wisconsin, leading
ut rio Grand Valley. John Tanjay up the floor for
the Badgers. He has seventeen points. Tonight the pass for
Max klesband Hin on the left. He'll send it to Gilmore.
He'll lead dribbles to the right wing, surveys back out
front for Tanjay at the mid cord logo hands off

(01:21:24):
the Klesban thirteen to shoot two twenty six to play.
Max ride of the circle, fleming on the guard. Here's
Max to the line down the laying up right hand
short no good, got his own rebound, runs it back
out the McGee fresh twenty four Wisconsin to fifteen Ormader,
three point lead for the Badgers. McGee throwing the Blackwell
top of the arc. Blackwell driving on Miller and draws
the foul. That's the nineteen foul and the third Montrey

(01:21:48):
Miller two oh nine to play eighty of seventy seven Wisconsin.

Speaker 3 (01:21:56):
And offensively for Wisconsin.

Speaker 2 (01:21:58):
Right now, even though Max had the drive, got his
offensive rebound, the ball's got to be in John Todges hands. Four.

Speaker 3 (01:22:06):
It's got to get into John Blackwellson. Yeah, d like,
I mean not hands.

Speaker 2 (01:22:11):
But they've also, like all game long, they've been able
to get to that paint and either get foul.

Speaker 1 (01:22:17):
The finish twenty five points for Blackwell. This is a
one and one. He's one of two at the line tonight.
Front end is Good rolls off the right side of
the rim and Dross eighty one seventy seven in Wisconsin,
with two o nine remaining. Been tight throughout the the
Carrol's biggest lead seven the Badger's biggest lead is fine

(01:22:39):
and try to get there again, and they do as
Blackwell hits them both eighty two seventy seven Wisconsin, two
oh nine.

Speaker 3 (01:22:45):
Remaining the side of rule.

Speaker 1 (01:22:47):
Hakeem was seventeen points to lead the way for U two.
Rio Grand Valley curls off the left wing. He gets
fouled by Carter Gilmour next three on Gilly.

Speaker 3 (01:22:56):
Kind of knew that was gonna come, you know.

Speaker 1 (01:22:58):
One on one coming up for Hassan abdul Hakeem.

Speaker 3 (01:23:04):
Seventy three percent free throw shooter on.

Speaker 1 (01:23:06):
The year, one of one. Tonight's with the Caros five
of seven at the line, the Bagers twenty two at
twenty six. JJ Howard back in for ut Rio Grand
Valley in there for k c Rainey Howard, the six
five sophomore from say Louis Obispo, California. Abdul Hakeem, a

(01:23:30):
senior from Toronto, A one on one. He has seventeen
points Tonight front end high arching shot. Then it's straight through.
Eighty two seventy eight, Wisconsin, two minutes, one second remaining.
He had twenty six and eleven in their game against
Creighton earlier this month. Second free throw on the way

(01:23:52):
and that's good. Eighty two seventy nine, Wisconsin. Down to
the final two minutes in Madison. Withee up the left sideline,
Howard defended high scream Gilmore throw the tanj at the
top turns to Blackwell, hard left hand ribble and a
foul is called Trey Miller. Now Blackwell knows he's got

(01:24:14):
the better of the matchup. Miller doing what he can.
He's frustrated. He picked up his fourth and that's team
found number ten double bonus. Now for the Badgers, I've
seen more contact. But however, yeah, when.

Speaker 3 (01:24:32):
You turn that corner with a purpose.

Speaker 1 (01:24:38):
Blackwell shoots two. He has twenty seven points. Three out
of fourth of foul line. He has six rebounds and
three dimes. Three point lead Wisconsin. First free throw, Blackwell
good one more coming under fifty two to play. Eighty
three seventy nine. The Badgers kt Ramy back in for

(01:24:59):
j Jay.

Speaker 3 (01:25:00):
Howard still got to get a stop on this end.

Speaker 1 (01:25:04):
Shaking free throw coming up for John Blackwell as the
rim sends it in and out, no good. Abdul jackeen
the rebound, four point lead Wisconsin a minute forty eight
to play a duel laquin to the front court against
quarter Gilmore pouncer gribble Hive and left the throw to
fourn baseline left driving kicking a team Raimier right wing

(01:25:24):
and he got fouled by Blackwell getting up and into him.
And that's third on Blackwell and team found number nine.
So one in one coming up with a minute thirty
seven to play eighty three seventy nine Wisconsin.

Speaker 2 (01:25:40):
Raby four for four from the free throw line on
the season with the two he made this.

Speaker 1 (01:25:45):
Tonight, eleven points for him, all in the first half. Wi,
You're out of Kansas City. The last couple of years
at DePaul. Takes a deep breath, spins the ball in
his hands on the front end. Is good. Not his

(01:26:07):
first rodeo, and then around a little bit College of
Southern Idaho, a couple of seasons with the DePaul Blue Demons,
A couple of seasons eighty three to eighty Wisconsin a
minute thirty seven to play second free throw out of
the way, and that's good. Another Carol's back within two.
JJ Howard back in for Raimi. A little O to

(01:26:29):
D being played here by Khalil Fanell, the head coach
of ut Rio Grand Valley. Badger's up two with the
ball uncontested up the floor comes John Tanjay with a
minute thirty four in county to play don j out
high the hands off the blackwell a throw it at
catter Gilmore and the time I'll take it by Greg
Guard with a minute twenty eight left in regulation time

(01:26:51):
Wisconsin eighty three, ut Rio Grand Valley eighty.

Speaker 2 (01:26:55):
One, Wisconsin. Has it scored in three minutes? Yeah, right,
So that's why I like the time out by grade.

Speaker 1 (01:27:01):
Let's plus ten seconds for station identification ten for an ID,
which is Badger basketball from lear Field. And then the
Badger's been getting their work done here those last few
minutes of the free throw line. See if they can
get a bucket here, which said they've been without one.

Speaker 2 (01:27:14):
For yeah, correct, right, no field goals for the last
three minutes, and a lot of it is because you
don't see this group of five together a whole onut
on the offensive end. Now they've gotten to the free
throw line, but offensively they haven't so loop Beck chemistry.
That being said, you've still needed them on the defense
like that. Five has been really good defensive. And so
that's why I like the time out here by Greg.

(01:27:35):
You can draw it up now they can transfer that
from the board to the court and get the look
that you're looking to get.

Speaker 1 (01:27:41):
The last seven points for the Badgers at the foul
line twenty on the shot clock. I've been at twenty
eight in the game clock, eighty three to eighty one,
Wisconsin leading ut Rio Grand Valley, Blackwell sideline right Well,
then bound flipped it into Kamari McGee a pass for
John y up again.

Speaker 3 (01:28:01):
The zone is on.

Speaker 1 (01:28:03):
Max Klesmet surveys mid midcourt logo. Max thought about it.
He'll dribble right lane line, finds a cutting tan Jay
not away, but a foul as he was going hard
to the bucket and Tanjay will shoot too. With the
Badger's up to a minute fourteen to play, Hasan Abdul
Hakeem the foul. He's third well and.

Speaker 2 (01:28:22):
It all starts because of the cut here by John Tanjay.
Max drives gets the paint. John could have sat out
by the three point line all he wanted, but he
cut right to the rim, drop pass, gets to the
free throw line.

Speaker 1 (01:28:38):
He has seventeen points in the game. First free throw
he is through eighty four eighty one Wisconsin.

Speaker 2 (01:28:44):
I say it a lot, but if you cut to
the front of the rim, good things happen.

Speaker 1 (01:28:49):
And this team's pretty good at doing that. Second free
throw for Tanjay, he has eighteen points in the game.
Second free throw is good and he is one of
ten at the foul line. Tonight eighty five eighty one Wisconsin.
Tattle him in at ten to play. Tray Deller up top,
Neil Dwasta Adul Hakeem on the right wing, Pleasby gets

(01:29:12):
some going to switch. D three. Dk Thorn is good
from straight away and it's eighty five eighty four Wisconsin.
With fifty five seconds to play, Plesbit sideline left front court.
Down to fifty seconds twenty two in the shot clock,
Plesband and Tanjay play catch shot near half court, fifteen

(01:29:33):
to shoot, forty three to play and a time out
taken by Greg gard As. D. K Thorn picked quite
a time to get into the scoring column with a
deep three forty two point two seconds to play, fourteen
to shoot Wisconsin eighty five, ut Rio Grand Valley eighty four.

Speaker 2 (01:29:53):
I looked at you, I said, I think it's today
eight minute mark. I'm a little nervous.

Speaker 1 (01:29:57):
I was gonna ask you when that. I did ask you,
when were your nerve? We be nervous early second half?

Speaker 3 (01:30:02):
Bill nervous, I am.

Speaker 2 (01:30:04):
But the reason that eight o'clock a clin, eight minutes
on the clock I was gonna get nervous is because
of the way that Texas Real Grand Valley can shoot
the three yep like that.

Speaker 3 (01:30:14):
That could keep you in a game.

Speaker 2 (01:30:16):
And if you go an eight minute segment, you know,
two four minute segments like that, that's why it gets
a little scary.

Speaker 3 (01:30:22):
I mean that's a deep three. There's not much defensively
you can do.

Speaker 2 (01:30:27):
But that's yeah, when you're when you're when you've got
it tight with eight minutes ago, anything can happens.

Speaker 3 (01:30:34):
So know wiscons here after this time about same thing.

Speaker 2 (01:30:36):
Love the time out like let's see thinking execute here
with fourteen on the clock, forty two left in regulation
as well.

Speaker 1 (01:30:42):
Blackwell McGhee hillmore time, Dane Klutz the five or four
of Wisconsin Blackwell sideline rival invoun looking looking you get
it into clutters gill more there without a ten on
the shot clock. There's Max Klesman eight to shoot, thirty
six to play Klesmant left hand hip, hydribble, crosses over dry,
flits through defenders, fades, flips back when no great down

(01:31:03):
to Hollie Fleming and now a chance to win it
for the mccaro shot clock dark twenty three seconds to play,
eighty five eighty four Wisconsin, twenty seconds remaining time out
ut Rio Grand Valley, twenty points two seconds remaining eighty
five eighty four Wisconsin. A man, They'll use the sixty

(01:31:28):
right here, will the the caros Still a thirty is available,
Andrews have a thirty available as well. Tough shot there
at the other end.

Speaker 3 (01:31:42):
Huh yeah, I did like it. No now.

Speaker 2 (01:31:49):
Thought there might have been a travel on the sideline
before in the imbounds.

Speaker 1 (01:31:53):
Shuffle de feed a little bit.

Speaker 3 (01:31:55):
So yeah, like I said, rather have a shot than
a turbine some but.

Speaker 2 (01:32:02):
You're guarding here. There's twenty seconds on the clock. They're
gonna use a full. They have set the screen for
a duel a king, a whole bunch of guard on
guard screen with Scott. If you got to switch that
yeah right now.

Speaker 3 (01:32:15):
Now. The only reason I don't know.

Speaker 2 (01:32:18):
If they've practiced the guard to guard switches in situations
like that.

Speaker 3 (01:32:21):
If you haven't practiced it, you can't do it.

Speaker 1 (01:32:23):
Yeah, Yeah, you're right, You're feel like so many scenarios
where that's discussed, you do what you practice.

Speaker 2 (01:32:29):
I know, and I know the way that they've done it.
They will go and play it with the way that
they've practiced it. So I could sit here and say
do this, do this, but it's all about what they've
practiced leading up to it and what they've practiced through
their training camp and throughout the season so far.

Speaker 1 (01:32:45):
I don't if, but Carol's trying to do something that
this program has not accomplished in twenty years. And that's great.
A Power Conference team flicked down Baylor in two thousand
and four, maybe a bucket away from doing it to
the Badgers tonight. Twenty four to two seconds to play
was compted at eighty five U t Rio Grand Valley,
eighty four Carols will be on offense, shot blocked dark.

Speaker 3 (01:33:10):
And here we go.

Speaker 2 (01:33:12):
And if you're Texas real Grand Valley, the clock doesn't matter.

Speaker 3 (01:33:14):
You gotta get a bucket for us. You're not waiting
for a last job. There's none of that. You're in play.

Speaker 1 (01:33:19):
Hasan a duel Haakini bulling down front George Sideline left.
Here we go twenty seconds left, Trey Miller against Kamari
in the gate. Out of seventeen seconds. Right of the
seven circle is Bether with fifteen seconds another left hand
hit Hye dribble, he'll throw to Fleming gets it back
to the builder. They leave it to us side of
duel Haackeen eight seconds to play.

Speaker 3 (01:33:36):
A duel.

Speaker 1 (01:33:37):
Lakeen try to back down on McGee in a line,
push it up in traffic off the room.

Speaker 3 (01:33:41):
More block Well.

Speaker 1 (01:33:42):
The rebound, try to go to the floor with two
point one seconds to play, and he was fouled. Badgers
hanging on to a one point lead. Job not done
yet as John Blackwell with a grown man's rebound and
he got bumped to the four. He'll shoot two where

(01:34:04):
the Badger's up by one.

Speaker 2 (01:34:06):
They switched it and who ended up bottom Kamari McGee,
the smallest guy there, but there was enough bang there
to be able to make sure that that this defensive
possession by Kamari McGee is one of the best that
you've seen. Now, John Togi comes over and helps in
that situation. But Camary McGee in that moment with the switch.

Speaker 1 (01:34:26):
Bulldog, ain't giving up eight inches on the bulldog. TOI me,
you're right, it's a perfect term fleming the foul by
the way he has fouled out. He finishes with ten
points pressure free throws. Here for John Blackwell, Badgers up
one with two point one to play, he will shoot two.
First free throw money eighty six eighty four. Wisconsin's twenty

(01:34:52):
eight points. Tonight Well, the sophomore out of Bloomfield Hills, Michigan.

Speaker 2 (01:34:58):
Well, they're gonna try to if John makes this, they're
going to try to have one pass advance it. So
there's some time left for Texas Real Grand Valley.

Speaker 1 (01:35:07):
Second free throw John Blackwell two point one seconds to play,
free throw good Badger's up by three. Man, they're gonna
take it.

Speaker 2 (01:35:15):
Right away up now with two point one, it's a situation.
You could talk should he have missed it? Should he
have not have missed it? With two point one, they're
still you're up by two. I'm not a believer of
missing that.

Speaker 3 (01:35:28):
Now you have three because he made the free throw
right leg.

Speaker 2 (01:35:30):
If you miss, if you purposely missed that, now they've
got to go get that rebound.

Speaker 3 (01:35:35):
But a long shot you lose.

Speaker 1 (01:35:38):
What about fouling, Now.

Speaker 3 (01:35:41):
We've seen this before. Yeah, I recall a Michigan game.

Speaker 1 (01:35:45):
Yeah, a couple of years ago. Right, they tend to
foul up free. My question is now at too deep
to do that because they're gonna be hoisting it up quickly.
This is why you get paid the big bus, right,
no question?

Speaker 2 (01:36:01):
Yeah, and again I think right on the catch, you.

Speaker 3 (01:36:05):
Have to foul.

Speaker 1 (01:36:07):
Eighty seven eighty four, Wisconsin, two point one seconds remaining.
John Blackwell with two pressure free throws. He has thirty
points in the game. Gold Winter is in now, so
he's going to be in there to beat tall Well.

Speaker 3 (01:36:21):
That's why they get in.

Speaker 1 (01:36:22):
La and the guy throwing it inbounds. Otherwise you got
gil Moore, Blackwell, Pleasban and McGhee on the floor. Hassan
Abdul Hakeem will be inbounding eighty seven eighty four, Wisconsin
with two point one seconds to play. Thank great guard.
Taking a look at that. He'll use his final time on.

(01:36:44):
Just never know what you're gonna see. This little thing
called Sports. Putting off the big win against Arizona, you
got ut Rio Grand Valley like, who Well, they're saying, uh, yeah,
we came to play, thank you very much.

Speaker 2 (01:37:00):
Now to get back to that, do you foul if
you catch the ball going the opposite direction? So if
Texas Rial Grand Valley catch the ball going the opposite
direction of their basket, you can fight. If they catch
it going towards their basket, which you want to try
to avoid. But if they catch it there.

Speaker 3 (01:37:21):
With two point one.

Speaker 1 (01:37:24):
Yeah, I think it's too high.

Speaker 3 (01:37:25):
Rich, I think it's too at risk.

Speaker 2 (01:37:26):
Yeah, yep, because if they're going towards where the balls
being inbounds, they can't turn their body. So therefore you're
not leaving it up to the officials to say he
was in the motion of shooting.

Speaker 3 (01:37:39):
You're going this way, your body's going that way.

Speaker 2 (01:37:41):
You you can't turn before the contact happens.

Speaker 1 (01:37:44):
And if they are if it is caught going to
the basket, here boll Ryan and Greg Archer would be
a pillar. Try to try to make him go side
to side. You go straight north south, and then you
get a higher percentage.

Speaker 3 (01:37:57):
Yet, so.

Speaker 1 (01:37:59):
Here we go. Eighty seven eighty four Wisconsin with two
point one second sw remaining, So I'm gonna reset it
for the Badgers, Winter Blackwell, McGee, Klesmont and Gilmore, Cliff
Davis back in there, three point threat, Trey Miller, DK Thorn,
K t Rainey and Hassan abdul Hakim, who will be

(01:38:21):
inbounded with Winter in his face. So here we go.
He's looking a duel. Hakeem chuckling looking looking bounced to
Cliff Davis half court. He for the tie, no good
and the Badgers hang on. Oh what a game this

(01:38:46):
turned out to be. As Cliff Davis with that half
court heave, it would not fall and the Badgers escape
eighty seven to eighty four.

Speaker 2 (01:39:00):
The end of the day, they're not going to look
at it and say you only won by three. A
win's a win, doesn't matter how it gets done.

Speaker 1 (01:39:10):
Take it without apology.

Speaker 3 (01:39:11):
You'd take it.

Speaker 2 (01:39:13):
And you look at this, knowing what they have coming
up with the Greenbrier Classic, Hey, there's gonna be a.

Speaker 3 (01:39:22):
Lot of teachable moments.

Speaker 1 (01:39:25):
Startered Gilmore getting in there enough, but in space there
was no question. There was no foul there and one
heck of an effort by ute Rio Grand Valley and
some clutch performances for the Badgers at both ends of
the floor. Never hurts when you go twenty seven to
thirty two at the foul line as well.

Speaker 2 (01:39:43):
Yeah, and again it started with by Greg going small.
That started on that seven oer run, and then he
ran with that group. And it was the right decision.
I mean, we had talked about it. I knew it
was coming. You could see it.

Speaker 1 (01:39:56):
Final score Wisconsin eighty seven, ut Rio Grand Valley eighty four.
We're back with the Wisconsin Ford Dealers post game show
in a couple of minutes. This is Badger basketball from
lear Field, the goal center down to the wire. Game.
It was close through alps. The biggest leader night actually
was belonging to ut Rio Grand Valley led by seven

(01:40:19):
early in the second half, and I had a chance
to get at the ten but could not, and then
the Badgers went to work from there. But the biggest
lead for Wisconsin tonight was five points. The last eleven
for Wisconsin scored at the foul line. As the Badgers
survive here in this mid November night, eighty seven eighty
four over ut Rio Grand Valley.

Speaker 3 (01:40:40):
Yeah, you talked about up seven, what do they do?

Speaker 2 (01:40:42):
They went small, and I think that was the biggest thing,
is that adjustment.

Speaker 3 (01:40:48):
And you knew, I mean.

Speaker 2 (01:40:51):
Curious talked to Greg about it because you knew you
had that in the back pocket and you didn't need
to go to it early. Just what do you wish
to maybe go a little bit earlier. That's always tough
because Steve, when he was there at times got some
stuff going. But that group that came in and again,
like I said, he had his back pocket. At some
point you knew he was going to it because they

(01:41:11):
just could defend a little bit better.

Speaker 1 (01:41:13):
I think the first players I'm gonna ask Greg about
tonight are two guys who didn't score a point, but
kind of your point about the defensive word, Carter Gilmore, Yeah,
and then they crunched out with.

Speaker 3 (01:41:23):
That last bulldog.

Speaker 2 (01:41:24):
But Kamara McGee, I mean, Kamari didn't play well to night,
but when he had to, it was the I mean
that play, you knew they were going to yea duel
key like they had run everything for him.

Speaker 3 (01:41:40):
The last play they were going to go.

Speaker 2 (01:41:42):
To him, And I skinned Beau said, not being in
practice every day, I don't know how they handle that well.
I think I know how they handed screen, they're switching
it and they don't care who it is. They believe
their defensive players are gonna be better and gonna follow
the principals.

Speaker 3 (01:41:56):
And that's exactly what Kamuria McGee did.

Speaker 1 (01:41:57):
And the Badger is able to survive this one tonight
eighty seven to eighty four, And we are underway with
our postgame report, brought to you by your local Wisconsin
Ford Dealers, Wisconsin eighty seven U t Rio Grand Valley
eighty four. More of our Wisconsin Ford Dealers postgame shows
coming up with Wich. He's breaked down back in a
couple of minutes. This is a Badger basketball from lear Field.

(01:42:22):
Our Wisconsin Ford Dealers postgame show continues as Wisconsin a
winner tonight, fairly, but you take it. Eighty seven eighty
four over ut Rio Grand Valley. Butcher, what you got
here for a what does this all? Yeah? Butch he's
breaked down exactly.

Speaker 3 (01:42:39):
Yeah, life happens right here.

Speaker 2 (01:42:42):
John block Well thirty points, eleven of eighteen, two of five,
biggest number seven rebounds that to me was he came
in and again we can talk numbers all you want,
but to me, the biggest thing that I look at
with this team is they've answered the call points, the
paint pretty even bench points, they got all score bench
point wise, like.

Speaker 3 (01:43:02):
All that stuff happens.

Speaker 2 (01:43:04):
The one thing you can't the one thing you can't
measure with stats, is a heart of the team.

Speaker 3 (01:43:09):
And Kamari McGee.

Speaker 2 (01:43:10):
On that last possession, when he has such a height advantage,
when that should be a disadvantage for the Badgers, what
did he do? He dug in and said, you're not
getting this basket no matter like you are not scoring here.

Speaker 3 (01:43:23):
And I think that's what I take away more than
more than the status.

Speaker 2 (01:43:26):
I mean, if you look at that status sheet, you
say Scott's probably should have lost freethel line. Again, I mean,
obviously the Freethrow line is crucial twenty seven to thirty
two as well. I mean that that is a strength
of wiscons It will be a strength of Wi Scotts
in all your long looks like, but just in general.

Speaker 3 (01:43:42):
That that heart.

Speaker 1 (01:43:43):
Is that because I asked him that when he came here,
he said he likes to play defense. And you didn't
believe that.

Speaker 3 (01:43:51):
I still don't you.

Speaker 2 (01:43:52):
I still don't believe that that Pete said in that moment,
you don't have to like it that moment.

Speaker 1 (01:43:57):
You love it. He did, he did, and they love
him in that locker room right now. Badgers win it
eighty seven eighty four over Texas Rio Grand Valley. We continue,
We'll take a glance at the Nissan out of town scoreboard.
Back in a minute. This is Badger basketball from Learfield, Wisconsin.

Speaker 3 (01:44:18):
Eighty seven U t Rio.

Speaker 1 (01:44:19):
Grand Valley eighty four. Half court heat from Cliff Davis
off the mark as the Badgers hang on tonight. Quick
check of the Nisson out of town scoreboard. Just one
other Big ten team was in action tonight. Michigan on
the home floor takes care of Miami University out of Oxford, Oxford,
Ohio ninety four to sixty seven. Little busier schedule Tomorrow

(01:44:41):
night for Big ten teams. Ohio State will take on Evansville,
Minnesota hosting Cleveland States, Maryland and Canisis. You got Michigan
State against Samford Iowa hosting writer Northwestern at home against
Montana State. But you'll be working that game on Big
ten network. And tomorrow at five four, Marquette takes on
Purdue Big Time matchup as Marquette fifteenth this week and

(01:45:05):
Purdue ranked sixth Badgers an eighty seven to eighty four
winner on the strength of a career high thirty points
from John Blackwell, john Tonjay with nineteen, Max Klesmant with eleven,
nine apiece for Steven Krow and Xavier Amos, six for
Nolan Winter and three for Jack Janicki, Hassan abdul Hakeem

(01:45:26):
with nineteen points to lead five and double figures full
of Viccaros, k t Raimi with thirteen points, Trey Miller
with twelve and six assists, Cliff Davis with ten points,
Awi Fleming with ten, nine for Tommy Ganki hag eight
point or six points rather for quell Agua, three for

(01:45:47):
DK Thorn and that three made things way too interesting
in the final minute, and JJ Howard off the bench
with two points for ut Rio Grand Valley as well.
Wisconsin wins it eighty seven, eight four more to kama
is our Wisconsin Ford Dealers postgame show continues. This is
Badger basketball from their field.

Speaker 4 (01:46:06):
Here we go.

Speaker 1 (01:46:11):
Back court side is our Wisconsin Ford Dealers postgame show continues.
Oh canny o appearance from Justin Doherty here tonight. That's
always good.

Speaker 3 (01:46:18):
You know you know it's a big game must.

Speaker 1 (01:46:20):
Be joined by the Badger's head coach that I was telling, Butchie,
I was going to ask you the first question was
going to be about two guys who didn't score a point,
Carter Gilmour what he did and Kamari McGee on the Abdul.
But you're really excited that last.

Speaker 2 (01:46:37):
Bulldog defense, and so I didn't know what you guys
normally do on the guard guard screen.

Speaker 3 (01:46:42):
All night long, they were setting.

Speaker 1 (01:46:43):
It and we were going under it with the time
most of the time.

Speaker 2 (01:46:47):
This last possession, I said, I'm not in practice all
the time, but if I'm them, I'm gonna switch it
no matter what it is.

Speaker 3 (01:46:52):
And that's exactly what you did.

Speaker 2 (01:46:54):
And it's Kamar like they have the mismatch they had,
but they didn't have the heart of Kamara.

Speaker 3 (01:46:59):
That's just to me. That was where it played out.

Speaker 5 (01:47:01):
And the John Blackwell rebound was a man absolutely to
go get that thing. Yeah, I mean, it's unfortunately, it's
kind of what I feared in terms of how they
play that if we gave them some confidence, it was
going to be a hard game for our big bigs
to play in because of the spread floor because in
our and our perimeter. Didn't do our bigs any favors

(01:47:22):
in the first half in terms of how we got
behind on some chases, We got back cut a couple
of times, we got rejected on a ball screen set
up a crack back three in the corner.

Speaker 1 (01:47:32):
So we we.

Speaker 5 (01:47:33):
Violated a lot of disciplinary rules or disciplined rules within
what we do defensively. And then then our fours and
fives are running around, you know, you know, behind the play,
trying to rescue their their buddies and and you know,
the big guys are out shooting threes, twelve and thirty
three and that. So, like just Coach Weber just said,
go small was really what we had to do and

(01:47:55):
try to get that somewhat under control.

Speaker 3 (01:47:58):
At what point did you think going small as right call?

Speaker 5 (01:48:01):
Because I did a little bit in the first half,
you know, but I didn't like playing small against their zone.
I don't want to completely give our advantage away. Yeah,
you know, and make them because it's tough, right because
we even talked about it during the broadcast. So the
toughest thing about going small is offensively. Now you've got
a guard playing your four who's not necessarily used to
playing in that four spot of the zone offense, you.

Speaker 3 (01:48:23):
Know, not big on the glass and all those things.
It took.

Speaker 5 (01:48:26):
It takes our advantage and correct negates it.

Speaker 1 (01:48:29):
And that's the danger of obviously any team.

Speaker 5 (01:48:33):
But when you play these mid majors, that the three ball, Matt,
We've talked about it one hundred thousand times.

Speaker 1 (01:48:39):
The three ball is the great equalizer.

Speaker 5 (01:48:40):
Specifically, if you got bigs that that can shoot it,
it just puts you on such a a tilted world,
so to speak, with your fours and fives, because they're
not accustomed to the movement of that fast and the
help and recover. And then while long shots, long rebounds,
we gave up some of those, you know, but we
find a way.

Speaker 1 (01:48:59):
I mean, that's we're not We weren't pretty tonight.

Speaker 5 (01:49:02):
It wasn't perfect, but we got to the line thirty
two times, did a decent job at taking care of
the ball, and you know, got that shooting percentage for
them down a little bit the second half, and then
kept them off the line too.

Speaker 2 (01:49:13):
Well.

Speaker 1 (01:49:13):
The beauty of this team, among other things, Greg, is
the ability, like you never know who's gonna go off.
I mean, we know what John Tanjay did Friday night.
Max has had big games and now you get thirty
from from John Blackwell and just like no no fear, pressure,
free throw.

Speaker 5 (01:49:29):
Yet all the box and he got got to the rim.
You know, he really you know, when I thought he
was a little a little a step late in the
first half, I thought it just not engaged defensively, and
second half I thought he was much better. And uh
and obviously offensively get himself to the rim playing off
two feet made a much better job that from that standpoint.

Speaker 2 (01:49:52):
You bring up that that crack back three. That was
a moment that I tapped Matt on the shoulder. I said,
can you call the time out.

Speaker 1 (01:49:58):
Right after that?

Speaker 3 (01:49:59):
Yeah, I come back. I said, I'm gonna be harsh
on Max here.

Speaker 2 (01:50:03):
You can't fall asleep in that situation, right, You've played
enough reps. You know what's coming, right, you know, and
it just it just watch well, that's exactly what it was.

Speaker 1 (01:50:12):
It's also on the other side, it was it was.

Speaker 5 (01:50:15):
Actually pulled the wrong guy out when I when I
saw but I didn't pulled the violator out, but I
wanted to get better defensively, and and uh, yeah, it
was actually we got rejected off the ball screen that
sets it up.

Speaker 3 (01:50:28):
You can negate all that baseline website.

Speaker 2 (01:50:30):
And there was a crack back. It was wide open,
it was falling up. I mean it was a heck
of a shot him. Yeah, yeah, said yeah, yeah.

Speaker 5 (01:50:36):
It's you know, simple things can uh not execute it properly,
can get you in trouble. So I thought, uh, you
know that that's a pretty decent team. I watched just
how they gave Creighton and Nebraska the same trouble, and
it's just it's hard to play big Kulk Brenner gets
forty nine against him because he just ate at the RAM,
but he had a hard time running around with bigs
that shoot three.

Speaker 1 (01:50:56):
So it was a game and they and they were
making him and then they go house money going. There's
no pressure there, all right, So you good, good game
to have again, the variety that you guys have faced.

Speaker 3 (01:51:07):
It was last thing I've got.

Speaker 1 (01:51:08):
Though.

Speaker 2 (01:51:08):
You've got your two bigs in there that obviously don't
play a lot, But now you've got Green Brier coming
up against you know, three really good teams are there.
You can see two of them. I've been in that locker
room enough against games like this where you're just like,
can I play against another seven footer?

Speaker 3 (01:51:22):
Can I like, can we get done with this?

Speaker 1 (01:51:23):
He?

Speaker 3 (01:51:24):
Can we finally play against the bigs.

Speaker 5 (01:51:25):
Because we talk it's just easier to play, right, That's
It's just what's the difference between Friday night and tonight?

Speaker 3 (01:51:31):
Absolutely?

Speaker 5 (01:51:32):
Yeah, it was a seven footers buffet on on Friday night.

Speaker 1 (01:51:36):
Tonight.

Speaker 5 (01:51:36):
Yeah, No, seven footers got to stay on the bench
for the most part until we I thought, if we
could get a lead, then you play.

Speaker 1 (01:51:42):
Then it becomes an advantage.

Speaker 5 (01:51:43):
But when we're sitting here trying to catch them and
trading buckets, it's not not a time to put ourselves
in that position.

Speaker 1 (01:51:51):
You're five, and oh, go enjoy that. Okay, that's what
the That's what Justin told me. So I think you're
you're five and oh you know all the facts. I
appreciate it. Thanks guys, all right, badger say coach Greg
Guard here is Wisconsin Wednesday tonight, eighty seven to eighty four.
