of times, we got rejected on a ball screen set

what we do defensively. And then then our fours and
fives are running around, you know, you know, behind the play,
trying to rescue their their buddies and and you know,

go small was really what we had to do and

try to get that somewhat under control.

At what point did you think going small as right call?

Because I did a little bit in the first half,
you know, but I didn't like playing small against their zone.
I don't want to completely give our advantage away. Yeah,
you know, and make them because it's tough, right because
we even talked about it during the broadcast. So the
toughest thing about going small is offensively. Now you've got
a guard playing your four who's not necessarily used to
playing in that four spot of the zone offense, you.

Know, not big on the glass and all those things.

It takes our advantage and correct negates it.

And that's the danger of obviously any team.

Specifically, if you got bigs that that can shoot it,
it just puts you on such a a tilted world,
so to speak, with your fours and fives, because they're
not accustomed to the movement of that fast and the
help and recover. And then while long shots, long rebounds,
we gave up some of those, you know, but we
find a way.

I mean, that's we're not We weren't pretty tonight.

It wasn't perfect, but we got to the line thirty
two times, did a decent job at taking care of
the ball, and you know, got that shooting percentage for
them down a little bit the second half, and then
kept them off the line too.

The beauty of this team, among other things, Greg, is
the ability, like you never know who's gonna go off.
I mean, we know what John Tanjay did Friday night.
Max has had big games and now you get thirty

Yet all the box and he got got to the rim.
You know, he really you know, when I thought he
was a little a little a step late in the
first half, I thought it just not engaged defensively, and
second half I thought he was much better. And uh
and obviously offensively get himself to the rim playing off
two feet made a much better job that from that standpoint.

but he had a hard time running around with bigs
that shoot three.

because it's the same philosophy. We want to get a
lot of threes, but we want to get out of
the right system.

Violated a lot of disciplinary rules or disciplined rules within
what we do defensively. And then then our fours and
fives are running around, you know, you know, behind the play,
trying to rescue their their buddies and and you know,
the big guys are out shooting threes, twelve and thirty
three and that. So, like just Coach Weber just said,
go small was really what we had to do and

try to get that somewhat under control.

At what point did you think going small as right call?
Speaker 5 (01:48:01):
Because I did a little bit in the first half,
you know, but I didn't like playing small against their zone.
I don't want to completely give our advantage away. Yeah,
you know, and make them because it's tough, right because
we even talked about it during the broadcast. So the
toughest thing about going small is offensively. Now you've got
a guard playing your four who's not necessarily used to
playing in that four spot of the zone offense, you.

Know, not big on the glass and all those things.

It takes our advantage and correct negates it.

But when you play these mid majors, that the three ball, Matt,

The three ball is the great equalizer.

Specifically, if you got bigs that that can shoot it,
it just puts you on such a a tilted world,
so to speak, with your fours and fives, because they're
not accustomed to the movement of that fast and the
help and recover. And then while long shots, long rebounds,
we gave up some of those, you know, but we
find a way.

I mean, that's we're not We weren't pretty tonight.

It wasn't perfect, but we got to the line thirty
two times, did a decent job at taking care of
the ball, and you know, got that shooting percentage for
them down a little bit the second half, and then
kept them off the line too.

The beauty of this team, among other things, Greg, is
the ability, like you never know who's gonna go off.
I mean, we know what John Tanjay did Friday night.
Max has had big games and now you get thirty
from from John Blackwell and just like no no fear, pressure,
free throw.

Yet all the box and he got got to the rim.
You know, he really you know, when I thought he
was a little a little a step late in the
first half, I thought it just not engaged defensively, and
second half I thought he was much better. And uh
and obviously offensively get himself to the rim playing off
two feet made a much better job that from that standpoint.

You bring up that that crack back three. That was
a moment that I tapped Matt on the shoulder. I said,
can you call the time out.

You can't fall asleep in that situation, right, You've played
enough reps. You know what's coming, right, you know, and
it just it just watch well, that's exactly what it was.

Actually pulled the wrong guy out when I when I
saw but I didn't pulled the violator out, but I
wanted to get better defensively, and and uh, yeah, it
was actually we got rejected off the ball screen that
sets it up.

And there was a crack back. It was wide open,
it was falling up. I mean it was a heck

It's you know, simple things can uh not execute it properly,
can get you in trouble. So I thought, uh, you
know that that's a pretty decent team. I watched just
how they gave Creighton and Nebraska the same trouble, and
it's just it's hard to play big Kulk Brenner gets
forty nine against him because he just ate at the RAM,
but he had a hard time running around with bigs
that shoot three.

So it was a game and they and they were
making him and then they go house money going. There's
no pressure there, all right, So you good, good game
to have again, the variety that you guys have faced.

play a lot, But now you've got Green Brier coming

for the most part until we I thought, if we

Then it becomes an advantage.

But when we're sitting here trying to catch them and
trading buckets, it's not not a time to put ourselves
in that position.
