Speaker 4 (00:11):
Now, here's your host, Dave Gasper and Nick bruce Aways.
Speaker 1 (00:18):
Welcome into the JANK Security Solutions basketball postgame show. I'm
your host Dave Gasper joined by Nick Brucewitz. Pure domination
from the Wisconsin Badgers tonight in the Greenbriar tip Off
winning over UCF eighty six to seventy. You can join
the conversation with us on the hotline six oh eight,
(00:39):
three two, one thirteen ten if you'd like to hop
on and let us know and jump in here. Wisconsin
was in control of this game from the beginning. UCF
was last within ten points of the lead. When it
was a twenty two to twelve game, it was over
from there. There were a lot of fouls. The free
(00:59):
throws stats were lopsided in a direction that we're not
used to seeing from Wisconsin. But Nick, this team just
cruised to a six nothing record to start the season
and they're on a trip to the championship of the
Greenbriar tip Off.
Speaker 2 (01:16):
Yeah, big day four, Wisconsin.
Speaker 3 (01:18):
Way to step up to the plate and take advantage
of a matchup that would prove something right. Their best
games this season have been again's ninth ranked or AH rank,
depending on how you want to look at them, Arizona
and now a UCF team that came in undefeated. This
is how you need to win games if you want
to continue to instill confidence amongst your group and amongst
(01:40):
your fan base. And this was their best performance. I
know beating Arizona is huge, but this was dominance. This
was from the tip to the finish. This was an
easy win for Wisconsin. Although the broadcast may have had
some challenges. That was probably the most difficult part of
the night. Yeah, broadcast for the Badgers. Other than that,
(02:00):
this was dominance for Wisconsin in a game like you've
pointed out, where they were out shot at the free
throw line by twenty one attempts, which is shocking, and
they didn't necessarily shoot the three ball well percentage why
was thirty two percent from deep ten of thirty one.
But they held UCF to thirty four percent from the field,
two of seven from deep, and they took advantage of
(02:22):
a group that clearly wasn't ready to face a team
of the caliber of Wisconsin.
Speaker 1 (02:27):
Yeah, there were definitely some interesting twists to this game
from what we're used to seeing from Wisconsin over these
first five games. Yeah, being lopsided there in the free
throw department twelve of sixteen for Wisconsin, twenty six of.
Speaker 2 (02:40):
Thirty seven for UCF.
Speaker 1 (02:42):
I mean, UCF got there a ton, but they just
were not able to take advantage, Like they could have
eleven missed free throws there. That could have made a
big difference in this ballgame if they're able to take
more advantage of that. But yeah, Wisconsin, there's still a
lot of things to clean up. I think Arizona was
definitely the more complete game all around, the way that
they handled it, the way that they went back and
(03:06):
forth and really were in control for most of that game,
even though they let Arizona back in and they never
really let UCF back in this game. But you also
could kind of see at the end of the first
half and kind of at the end of the second half,
Wisconsin was committing some fouls, it wasn't exactly clean, and
UCF was getting to the free throw line and they're
they're putting up some points and Wisconsin didn't run away
(03:28):
maybe as much as they could have in this game,
so there's still some stuff to clean up. As great
Guard was kind of talking about it, and we'll hear
his thoughts on this game again coming up later on
in the show him talking about this was maybe an
as ugly of a sixteen point win as you could
ever see, just because the way those those halves ended,
(03:51):
with UCF making a couple of runs, Wisconsin not really
playing the cleanest basketball. I think that's something where, hey,
there's still some stuff to clean up here, even though
this was a sixteen point win and it was pretty
comfortable most of the time, film session is going to
be a bit of a struggle tomorrow.
Speaker 2 (04:08):
Absolutely.
Speaker 3 (04:09):
I think that this is, as Brian Busch pointed out
many times during the broadcast, the perfect scenario. Four a
head coach a game that they had in their control
pretty much throughout that they were going to win, and
then he can then take them to the film and say,
this is your mistake, this is where you made all
these issues. Clean this up and we can be even
(04:30):
better a sixteen point win. Nobody is going to say
that they wouldn't prefer a blowout over a close game,
but this could have been even better for Wisconsin. As
you've highlighted as coach guard, you'll hear from him as
he will highlight and credit to the big men four Wisconsin.
Nolan Winter, of course, thirteen to ten double double for
(04:51):
him tonight, but Carter Gilmour Xavier Amos, who had to
play added minutes because Big Steve got in foul trouble
and he got in viola trouble because of his own issues. Right,
he got a foul in the first half, and then
he had some choice words which led to his third file. Right,
so it was his second file of the game when
he commits the file, and then the tech gives him
(05:13):
a third and then he goes into the second half.
Sixteen seconds in he commits his fourth file of the game.
So he had to leave the court for long stretches.
And Steve really hasn't put together a great performance this season.
Speaker 2 (05:26):
He's been good.
Speaker 3 (05:27):
He's had some good ones, but nothing spectacular, which you
can look at a glass half full and say there's
still something in the tank for Wisconsin. But Steve only
plays fourteen minutes tonight, six points, four rebounds, three assists.
Speaker 2 (05:41):
That's a big loss.
Speaker 3 (05:42):
And they end up winning by as much as they
do so. Credit to the big men who had to
play the extra minutes undersized at times, knowing that they
had Chium on the other side, who was I mean
seven foot three big dude.
Speaker 2 (05:56):
Yeah, they worked well.
Speaker 1 (05:58):
Yeah, it was certainly a good matchup between those guys
down there in the paint, and everyone was kind of
looking forward to the tip off too, between those two guys,
and then all of a sudden, you see a foul
committed before the tip offf can even happen, and often
Wisconsin has gifted the tip off. I've never seen that
before in all my years of watching basketball. I've never
(06:18):
seen them just cancel the tip off and just be like,
all right, we're just going to start and give Wisconsin
the ball.
Speaker 3 (06:25):
Yeah, odd start, odd game in general, right, you would
likely see the team that attempts twenty one more free throws,
you know, in a close game at least, and they
got blown out. That's UCF. Credit to Wisconsin. They they
hung in there defensively when they weren't committing fouls. They
did a great job playing defense.
Speaker 1 (06:46):
And I mean they were suffocating on defense there on
UCF two of seventeen from from beyond the arc for
UCF I mean, that is a horrendous night of shooting
for them, and it was just really what Wisconsin just
being in control and just not letting them get any
breathing room, getting any rhythm offensively. That was so important,
(07:10):
and they set that tone early and they just kept
it pretty much the rest of the game.
Speaker 2 (07:14):
No doubt.
Speaker 3 (07:15):
Badger's led for thirty eight minutes and forty two seconds.
They trailed for zero seconds, right, there was one minute
in eighteen seconds.
Speaker 2 (07:23):
Of tie or non lead.
Speaker 3 (07:27):
I'm reading here and I'm looking through the stat book
and it says time tied fifty six seconds lead to thirty.
Speaker 2 (07:33):
Forty two seconds of the game.
Speaker 3 (07:35):
Yeah, so I'm wondering where the discrepancy is because there's
only fifty six seconds of it being tied with the
Badgers leading thirty eight to forty two. Like, there's some
time where it's not even accounted for here. So I'm
assuming that the time strong. Well think, hey, I'm gonna
blame stat broadcast here. I mean, where we're getting our information.
(07:55):
I mean, all's this to say, Wisconsin never trailed in
this one second time this year they haven't trailed in
the game. Oddly enough, the two best opponents they've played
this year, at least on paper. We know Arizona is
the best team they face. We know UCF came into
tonight up starting their season four and zero, two best games,
two best teams. Wisconsin hasn't trailed.
Speaker 1 (08:17):
Yeah, and that's a great start for them going to
six and oh now on the season and a chance
for the Green Brier tip Off Championship. That game is
going to be on Sunday. We'll get to more of
that later and more into this game. Plus, we want
to hear from you on the hotline six eight, three,
two one, thirteen ten if you'd like to join the
(08:38):
conversation with your thoughts on today's game.
Speaker 2 (08:41):

Dave Gasper here with you alongside Nick bruce Witz Wisconsin
winners over UCF eighty six to seventy and Wisconsin really
(09:30):
just continuing to pour it on offensively with a very
balanced scoring attack in this game. John Blackwell loved the
team in scoring once again, seventeen points tonight, six of
ten shooting, John Tonjay fifteen points, six of fourteen from
the field. Kamara McGee fourteen points, five of six. Very
efficient night from Kamara McGee, a big game for him.
(09:52):
Nolan wintered thirteen points as well as he gets a
double double. Max Klusman added eight, Stephen Crowell six, zager
Amos with five, Jack Schanicki three points, Jack Robinson three
points as well, Cardi Gilmour with two. So very balanced
scoring attack in this game. Nick four different guys in
(10:13):
double digits. John Blackwell, John Tonjay the two Johns leading
this team once again.
Speaker 3 (10:20):
Yeah, and it was probably the least efficient night for
john Tonjay on the year and he shot six of fourteen.
Speaker 2 (10:25):
Right.
Speaker 3 (10:25):
This guy came into tonight shooting fifty three percent from
the field and forty four percent from deep. He didn't
make it three to zero for three from the three
point line. Obviously, the free throws at three of four
uh he's averaging ten free throw attempts per game, nine
of ten on those shots. This is a guy that
(10:46):
has been incredible. From the first game of the year
to the second game of the year, he has been
as steady as it gets. And tonight he showed up
once again. And John Blackwell was the one that we
felt most comfortable potentially being the next star out of
this past season, right that Blackwell had proven so much
as a true freshman off the bench that this season
(11:06):
could he make that leap. And now he's followed up
a thirty point performance against UTRGV with a very efficient
six of ten shooting tonight, seventeen points to lead all
scores in the contest. So I'm pretty satisfied with this group.
Kamari McGee has proven to be the best true point
guard on this team and he doesn't even start, and
(11:27):
for him to get fourteen points off the bench tonight,
he's where they got that pick me up with no
Krowell for the majority of the game in a poor
shooting night for Max Klebsman, who's proven to be pretty
pretty great at times but inconsistent to say the least,
so it's a big, big ad for them to get
a guy like Tanjay who you can count on every
night fifteen points. He's averaging twenty two points per game
(11:48):
coming into tonight. That'll go down slightly with this fifteen
point performance.
Speaker 2 (11:53):
But where do you.
Speaker 3 (11:55):
Want to target Wisconsin? Where do you want to try
and stop them? Because they've proven that they can adapt
and be good across the board, that they can find
value from anybody on this team.
Speaker 1 (12:06):
Yeah, and there are threats all across this team to
be able to score. If you try and shut down Tanjay,
John Blackwell can go after you've try and shut down Blackwell,
could be Tanjay, it could be a Klesman who.
Speaker 2 (12:18):
Has the ability to go off there.
Speaker 1 (12:20):
Kamaria McGee has the ability to go off in these
kinds of spurts. So you've got so many different guys
that can that can hit that it just makes it
so hard to cover. And then if you focus on all
the guards, then you got Nolan Winter, you got Stephen
Krowe who can hurt you down in the paint. So
that's something for Wisconsin as well. I mean, thirty eight
points in the paint for Wisconsin in this game, just
(12:44):
being able to hit pretty well in there. So really
it's very tough to defend for these other teams when
you have all these different guys that can that can
hurt you. And that's where this kind of balanced scoring attack,
that's where we see this offense taking off for Wisconsin.
Eighty six points for this team, and they continue to
(13:04):
just consistently hit in the eighties here, you know, eighties,
nineties or one hundreds, uh, doing that against Arizona, and
that's something that we're not used to really seeing from Wisconsin,
and it's just it's so refreshing to see that, you know,
coming out of this team this year. Again, if you'd
(13:25):
like to join the conversation, offer your thoughts on this
Wisconsin offen six So eight three two one thirteen ten
is the hotline that is the number two call to
hop on the show here and Nick, I really do
think that this duo of Tanjay and Blackwell could really
be one of the top scoring duos in the Big Ten.
Speaker 3 (13:46):
Yeah, when we were still waiting for the radio broadcast
to get you know, reset and figured out, I was
able to tune in briefly to the television broadcast and
that was part of their conversation was that if john
Tonjay and John Blackwell were the best one to two
punch at the guard position in the Big ten, right,
that they have proven that much so far this season.
And hey, credit to these two because it's hard to
(14:09):
come out of the gate as well as they have
in the roles that they have now established for themselves.
Speaker 2 (14:13):
Right.
Speaker 3 (14:13):
Blackwell was not a starter last season, and john Tonjay's
on his third team. Right, it's hard to open the
year performing at the level that they are in unfamiliar roles.
And that's a credit to both of those guys and
a massive credit to the coaching staff. So you get
thirty two points tonight from Tanjay and Blackwell, which I
do think would be raised in a bigger matchup or
(14:35):
a game that's far more competitive that if they were
needed to take more shots, or get to the bucket
more often, or press a little bit harder, you could
squeeze another ten points combined out of the two guys
at least. So you're talking about forty points on a
nightly basis approximately from Todjay and Blackwell if needed.
Speaker 2 (14:52):
And that's all you need.
Speaker 3 (14:53):
I mean, that is a building block that you can
plug right into a lineup, plug right into a game plan. Okay,
we're gonna get our forty points from these two. Just
about where do we build the rest? Where do we
get to our eighty five points per game? Right around
eighty five eighty eight points per game this year for Wisconsin?
How do you get to that number? And it's filling
in with other guys? Kleedsmen didn't have a great night,
(15:14):
but Kamari did. Krole didn't have a great night, but
Winter did. Right, these guys are stepping up, filling in
for each other, and it's complimentary basketball twenty one assists
for Wisconsin tonight on sixty six total shots made, and
that number was closer to a one to one ratio
at one point. I mean, they were finding each other
(15:36):
in open slots, making their shots and taking advantage once
again of a UCF team that clearly wasn't prepared for
what they were going to face in the first round
of the Greenbrier tip off.
Speaker 2 (15:48):
Yeah, they clearly were not. Man.
Speaker 1 (15:51):
Wisconsin was just able to outshoot them. We've got to
take quick ten seconds for illegal ID, ten for an ID.
Speaker 2 (15:59):
This this is the Jan K.
Speaker 1 (16:00):
Scurty Solutions Basketball Postgame Show six eight three, two, one,
thirteen ten is the number to call if you'd like

the offensive attack for Wisconsin putting up eighty six points
here over UCF in the Green Briar tip off leading
to a sixteen point victory, Wisconsin six to zero on

the season, as they just continue their dominant run here
to begin the year. When we come back, we are
going to have some fun facts with Dave and they
are very fun as they always are after a win,
So that is gonna be coming up as well. We

Bruswitz there, as we are recapping a Wisconsin Badgers eighty
six to seventy win over the UCF Knights in the
(17:29):
Greenbriar tip off in this game and joining us now,
I believe is going to be Nick Osen of twenty
four to seven Sports Nick covering the Badgers looking at
this game. It was a dominant win from from the
get go, but there still seem to be some ugly things,
a lot of fouls and whatnot to clean up in
(17:51):
this game.
Speaker 5 (17:53):
Yeah, guys, you know, great to be back. I feel
like that first off was nearly picture perfect, right, I say,
those first seventeen eighteen, eighteen and a half minutes not
so much you could take away. But yeah, going forward,
you know, as you can be a little bit more
picky because it seems like this team has the potential
to do a lot. You know, obviously the shooting percentage
(18:15):
fell off maybe a little bit in the second half.
There were a lot of fouls again, kind of a
decent amount of fouls called throughout the game for both teams,
you know, a couple moments to sloppy ball. But I
think that was a little bit more representative of quite honestly,
the margin of you know, kind of victory and what
the Badgers were up five guys at those times rather
than what this team is, because this is the UCF
(18:37):
team that came in undefeated. They'd beat a good Texas
A and M SDC team earlier this season, and it
felt like if Wisconsin kept the foot on the gas
that played their guts the whole time, they might have
won by twenty five to twenty seven.
Speaker 6 (18:52):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (18:53):
Nick, when you look at this game and you consider
what John Tanjay and John Blackwell can do in a
game like it feels to me like we can build
on these two on a nightly basis. This is a
building block. You can rely on them for thirty, maybe
forty points on a given game.
Speaker 5 (19:12):
Nick, I'm totally with you. I mean, it felt like
a lot of the buzz, as we talked about kind
of on our last show right in the offseason, was
about Blackwell and then time Day getting this national love
and attention as he should do, how he's performing. And
then when you can rely on that, Nick, like you mentioned,
because they're just two such high flower players. Basically every
(19:33):
time that they step on the court, they have the
chance to make that type of impact that opens things
up for some of these other guys. Right. Max Flesman
got hot kind of later in that first half. You know, obviously,
Famari McGee with the terrific start Nolan Winter first career
bubble double start, it feels like what you can expect
from those guys. Like you mentioned, that only opened things
(19:55):
up for the rest of the team, and that was
actually my biggest takeaway to night guys. It wasn't just
the win or how the team looking at necessarily, but
there are legitimate six or seven scoring options, and I
think that is really really positive for a deep Big Ten.
Speaker 1 (20:12):
Nick, do when you look at the Tanja and Blackwell
just scoring output, do you think that those two guys
can form a top scoring duo in the Big Ten?
Speaker 5 (20:23):
I'd have to say I think so, Dave. You know,
I feel like Kanjy's good for at least and I
know you had fifteen to ninety, didn't have the scores ninety,
but I'd say generally seventeen to twenty, which is really
impressive because it's so nice about his game, right is
it's just kind of free flowing. It's within the offense.
He doesn't have to have too much isoball. And then Blackwell, yeah,
(20:46):
kind of at fourteen to sixteen. Thinking about the rest
of the conference, Dave, I would have to believe. So,
I mean there are some really good, you know, kind
of duos or punches. I think of a team like
Purdue or maybe in Ohio State or Michigan was of
their big men. But just in terms of like a
backcourt and you know, consistency every time that they step
(21:06):
on the floor, a variety of ways to beat you too, right,
I mean getting to the free throw line so often,
especially for Tanjay Blackwell has that beautiful mid range jumper.
I would have to believe if it's not the best
scoring duo, it should be a top three or four
duo in this.
Speaker 3 (21:23):
Comp Tonight we saw Stephen Krall really struggle to remain
on the floor right, a difficult stretch for him right
before the break. He gets the foul and then the
technical giving him three first half fouls, and then he
files it up with a fourth file with sixteen seconds
off the clock, nineteen forty four left in the second half,
(21:43):
and he had to go to the bench again fourteen
minutes for Steven Krow. Nolan Winter stepped up thirteen points
ten rebounds double double for the sophomore, including a three
pointer and off the bench you saw Xavier Amis and
Carter Gilmore. We have yet to see Stephen Krall really
put together a four performance this year. And if he
were to become closer to what he was this past season,
(22:05):
how much higher does that raise this team stock in
your mind?
Speaker 5 (22:09):
That's an awesome question, Nick, Quite honestly, I think a
guy like that, And I'll even throw Winter in there too,
if that's okay, just because that may have been a
bit of a silver lining tonight, right even with with
proul Out. You know, Winter looked great in kind of
that four or five role. But like you said, if
Steves can be a little bit more like what we
saw these last two seasons, be very consistent, I just
(22:32):
feel like he hasn't had to be necessarily, But if
he does, that probably takes my opinion of this team
that has been higher than most from probably like a sleeper,
you know, conference contender to a legitimate contender, and probably
a second week on potential team as you get into
March madness, just because even if he hasn't shown it,
(22:54):
we know what he's capable of doing scoring wise. He's
such a great pass I want to give him credit
for that tonight, and that's actually one of my favorite
things that I see from the big Man. But otherwise,
if he can just take consistent stay on the floor,
like you said, make somewhat of an impact on the glass, yeah,
that'd be a huge stealing razor for this group.
Speaker 1 (23:14):
Nickoson twenty four to seven Sports. Would you like to
hear some some fun facts that I have?
Speaker 5 (23:20):
But it'd be hard for me to tell you no, dog.
Speaker 1 (23:23):
Exactly love it. Love the answer there. I got some
really good ones here as a Badgers get the win
here at the green Brier tip off being hosted at
the Greenbrier Resort. So let's start with a fun fact
about the venue here that they're playing in. The Greenbrier
has had twenty eight US presidents stay at the resort
(23:49):
over there in White Sulfur Springs, West Virginia, and the
last one was Dwight D. Eisenhower way back when he
was the thirty fourth president.
Speaker 2 (23:58):
Yeah, it's been a while. He was a thirty fourth president.
Speaker 1 (24:01):
And twenty eight of stated, So twenty eight of the
first thirty fourth stayed at this resort.
Speaker 2 (24:05):
There's some history here that.
Speaker 5 (24:07):
Actually is a fun fact that lived up to them.
Speaker 1 (24:10):
Yeah that we don't call it, you know, you know,
mild facts with Day. This is fun, they're not they're
not boring facts. Come on, Ohsen, you know how it is.
But but now some more fun facts in terms of
the basketball here with Wisconsin Nolan Winter first career double double,
thirteen points, ten rebounds. How about how about a little
(24:33):
bit of a round of applause there for Nolan Winter
first career double double. Let's let's give that man his flowers.
Speaker 5 (24:39):
Absolutely, no, he looked really really good on What I
love is the efficiency with which he did, right, eight
shots in the field, one for two on three, two
for three from the line. Obviously, looked really good on
the glass, and I actually remember I think it was
like his eighth or ninth. He really had to work
for it, actually jumping almost from the wing and perimeter.
(25:00):
I'll just snatched it away from Yucia. So absolutely his
blowers and excited to see that.
Speaker 1 (25:04):
Going forward, Dave, Yeah, we got to see more of
that from Nolan Winter getting his first career double. Fun
fact number three here on fun Facts with Dave, Wisconsin
has now scored seventy nine or more points in each
of the first six games, of the season for the
first time ever, for the first time in one hundred
(25:27):
and twenty six seasons of basketball at UW Madison, they
have scored seventy nine or more points in each of
the first six games. Now, that is fun. Offense is fun.
Scoring is fun.
Speaker 5 (25:39):
That like, quite honestly, when I read that, fat guys,
it was almost hard for me to believe, right, just
because this team looks awesome, but just amount a great
team that this program has had, including a lot of
really really good offensive teams. I mean, those final four
teams were terrific, some of the most efficient in the
nation and offensively, so just speak to you know, obviously
(26:03):
Coach Guard's given a lot of credit to the evolving
landscape of the game and offensive We are focused, but great,
sat dam and it will be set to track with
see if I can continue Sunday.
Speaker 1 (26:13):
Oh yeah, you know, it's it's a very interesting thing
that you mentioned those final four teams. They're ohs Nick
osen better of twenty four seven sports joining us. Because
my final fun fact here, fun fact number four. This
is the first six and oh start for Wisconsin since
the twenty fourteen to twenty fifteen Badgers team that made
(26:36):
the Final Four, made it all the way to the
National Championship game. Last time we saw a team do this,
they made the National championship.
Speaker 2 (26:44):
So just putting that out there. Stop, just learn that
out there for everyone to chew on. Brews already have
a response to that. Yeah, book your tickets. It's time.
Let's go Final four, Big Day. It's going to be
a good moment for us.
Speaker 3 (26:57):
This program is itching to get back guards, itching to
get the monkey off his back when it comes to
March success or lack thereof.
Speaker 2 (27:06):
Let's let's keep it going.
Speaker 3 (27:08):
I mean, there's a very talented pit group at the
end of the tunnel here on Sunday. Let's get another
invitational victory for this program.
Speaker 2 (27:17):
I'm looking forward to see if they can keep it going.
Speaker 5 (27:19):
Well, guys, I like Wisconsin on Sundays.
Speaker 2 (27:23):
Now there we go.
Speaker 1 (27:24):
We got optimism, we got positivity. Nick Osin twenty four
seven Sports, thank you so much for joining us here
on the jan K Security Solutions postgame show.
Speaker 5 (27:32):
Always my pleasure. Guys, look forward to talking Sunday.
Speaker 1 (27:35):
All right, we'll talk to you Sunday. That's Nick Osen
twenty four to seven Sports. We also got Nick Bruswitz
here as well. I'm Dave Gasper Wisconsin winners over UCF
eighty six to seventy. We'll hear from Greg Gard coming
up here as well, get his thoughts on this game
and looking ahead to pit on Sunday. We'll get to
(27:56):
all that coming up. You're listening to the jan K
Scurity Solutions basketball post games sho.
Speaker 4 (28:07):
Kamari McGee to inbound for Wisconsin right lane line and
the seven to two Mustafa Chiam guards the inbounds pass
and it goes Amos Bucket in a foul in the
restricted circle.
Speaker 2 (28:22):
Wow.
Speaker 4 (28:22):
Brilliant move by Wisconsin to counter UCF's decision to put
the seven to two Mustafa Chiam guarding the inbounder.
Speaker 1 (28:31):

jksecurity dot com. Wisconsin Badgers winners over UCF eighty six
to seventy in the Green Briar tip off. Wisconsin dominated
(28:52):
from the start of this game all the way through
to the end. They never trailed. They had a double
digit lead since it was twenty two to twelve very
early in the first half, so you would imagine Greg
Guard would be a very happy camper with that win.
We got his reaction as he talked with Chris Fosters
and Brian Butch after the game.
Speaker 4 (29:13):
And we're thrilled to welcome in Badger's head coach, Greg Guard.
Speaker 2 (29:17):
Coach.
Speaker 4 (29:18):
It was hard to pick a player of the game
for us on the broadcast tonight. It seemed like you
guys were really really balanced up and down the score
sheet tonight. You're looking at the box score right now,
what jumps out to you.
Speaker 6 (29:30):
We were balancing who filed too filed too much, way,
too many free throws, too many turnovers. This might be
as ugly as sixteen point win as I've ever been
a part of.
Speaker 2 (29:41):
I knew you were gonna say that. Now.
Speaker 7 (29:43):
I'm gonna go to the positive first, because as a coach,
that's what you're seeing. But I saw your guys sharing
the ball in what was a twenty point game. For
the majority of the game. They were making the right pass.
You don't always have that right because guys want to
go get theirs occasionally right, and the player movement and
ball movie you guys have twenty one assists on thirty
(30:04):
two Maine shots like they just stay discipline and it
kind of to me it shows you what what your
guys are about.
Speaker 2 (30:10):
They're about the right thing, right, No, there's no doubt
with that.
Speaker 6 (30:13):
I think, you know, the intentions were right and specifically
on the offensive thought side, I thought we got a
little hesitant at times against their little matchup or you know,
a couple of passes they were back to. Man, I
thought we we played into their hands at the end
of the first half with what we didn't do, some
shot selection things and not staying to what we had
(30:33):
talked about. But you know, offensively, Yeah, a lot of
good things other than you know, too many turnovers. But
you know it's uh some Well, there's a lot we
can learn from on this because we you know, we
filed way too much and none necessarily. It's one thing
if there's a lot of contact, but I don't know,
I'm sure on my ankle go drawing my pen counting
(30:55):
all the jump shooters we filed on the film. But
they that's that's nice part about November. You know, you
can there's a lot of things we got to get
better at.
Speaker 7 (31:06):
You look at Kamari and what he's brought. I mean,
obviously he misses.
Speaker 2 (31:09):
That last lamp. Otherwise he was five for five, three
of three misses. The last lamp goes from five or six.
Speaker 7 (31:13):
But the energy that he brought in that first half, yeah,
he made both his threes, got to the rim. Just
like we've talked a lot about it, but not enough
people are talking about him, if that makes sense. Yeah,
he just he changes our pace a little bit, you know,
And and I could plug him for different guys, whether
it's a big and whether it's a wing, whether it's
one of the other guards. It you know, he allows
us to obviously match him or put him in for
(31:36):
a variety of people. But just how he the defensive
pressure of the activity. Obviously we're a little he comes
with a little faster with the with the ball in
his hands and what the other guards do. So it's
a good you know, counter and dimension to have off
the bench when you look at defensively talked a lot
about filing, but your guys won the one on one battle.
That's what they wanted to do. They wanted to isolate
(31:58):
go one on one. Talk about just how you guys
built that out and how impressive was.
Speaker 2 (32:03):
Of each guy to win. They're one on one bat.
Speaker 7 (32:05):
I know they filed a lot, I get, but that's
a tough card when you're on an islands. And that's
why you see f is a top thirty teen in
the country, because that's that's what they do really well.
Speaker 6 (32:14):
And you guys stopped them. Yeah, I mean, we a
decent job on the ball. I thought we had some
ball screens where we got refused and didn't send them
to help at times, you know, we bailed them out
of We had them into some tough shots at times,
and we bailed them out by reaching or slapping down.
But for the most part, you know, it's obviously starts
with the guy on the ball, and then you got
to trust your teammates in behind.
Speaker 2 (32:34):
You make sure our.
Speaker 6 (32:35):
Gaps are loaded, make sure we're we're plugging the lane
as much as you can off of. You know, you
kind of pick and choose who you can plug off
of because of your aware of three point shooters. But
I thought, I thought there were stretches in the first half.
We were really good defensively, you know, second half, I
thought we were not as good, not as sharp, not
as you know, sometimes the score has something to do
(32:57):
with that, but uh, you know, maybe that's the files
to the officials.
Speaker 2 (33:00):
Seeing the scoreboard and changes the mix.
Speaker 6 (33:03):
But there's there's so many things we got to get
better at, which is good. I mean, you can feel
good about a win, but you know we got long
ways to go.
Speaker 7 (33:11):
Brou I know, but that's a that's a great win
for you guys. Enjoyed a little bit. I know you're
gonna break down the film. You got a good pit
team coming up on Sunday, and that's gonna be a
great basketball game.
Speaker 2 (33:20):
Yeah, well it's uh, you want to.
Speaker 6 (33:22):
Play in that second one rightly, that championship game.
Speaker 2 (33:26):
So we'll see you.
Speaker 6 (33:27):
As he's next forty eight hours to get better and
get ready for Pittsburgh.
Speaker 2 (33:31):
Coach, just quickly, how about Nolan Winter.
Speaker 4 (33:33):
You know, Stephen Crowell battles foul trouble tonight and Winter
gives you a double double.
Speaker 2 (33:37):
Yeah, he was active.
Speaker 6 (33:38):
He's got a defensive rebound a little better, but you know,
I you know, he was active on the glass, and
you know that tip in he had with his left
hand was good.
Speaker 2 (33:46):
And yeah, I mean he's just growing.
Speaker 6 (33:48):
I think he's getting better and better and more confident
in every game. And you know Steve gave him some
of his minutes tonight.
Speaker 2 (33:54):
He sure did.
Speaker 4 (33:55):
That's why I don't want to get that technical fella.
Come on, so well, coach, thanks again. I was gonna
ask if I could join your film session tomorrow, but
I'm not going to.
Speaker 2 (34:04):
Sounds like it's gonna be pretty pretty brutal. Well, so no.
Speaker 4 (34:10):
More than the players. Thanks for stopping by, coach. We
appreciate it. Congratulations on the win tonight. We'll talk to
you on Sunday. All right, sounds good, Thanks guys. Once again,
that's Wisconsin headman's basketball coach Greig Guard, joining us on
the Badgers postgame show. Wisconsin victorious tonight eighty six to
seventy over UCF.
Speaker 1 (34:27):
Right, there was head coach Greg Guard after Wisconsin's win tonight,
and yeah, the film session that these guys are not
looking forward to it. As Guard points out, they know
they know that film study may be a little bit
rough tomorrow.
Speaker 3 (34:43):
Yeah, I think that it'll be rough, but I think
that they're lending a little bit too much into that,
leaning a little too much into how rough it's gonna be.
I do believe that Greg Guard is a good coach
and he will get these guys right. But it also
needs to be recognized that they won by sixteen.
Speaker 2 (34:59):
I get it.
Speaker 3 (34:59):
They were up by twenty three with four and a
half left. They should have won by more. But they're
gonna get ready. They're gonna flip the switch. They're gonna
they're gonna change their focus to being ready to go
for pit pretty quickly. They'll reflect on this one, they'll
watch the film, but then they'll get going trying to
win this Green Briar tip off. First annual hang out?
Uh did you hear about Danuel? Yeah, it's the first one,
(35:22):
the first one ever.
Speaker 2 (35:23):
So is that is like first annuals.
Speaker 1 (35:26):
Kind of like like how can it be annual if
it's just the first Like it's just kind of a
it's like a semantics thing like yeah, getting but like
so many people say it, like like so many times
people call it, and it's just like, oh, it's the
first annual. It's like it's just it's not annual until
we get to the second time around. I know. But yeah,
that that uh film study, It's it's gonna be a
(35:48):
much easier pill to swallow when you do end up
winning by double digit, So that's.
Speaker 2 (35:53):
What Wisconsin has coming up.
Speaker 1 (35:54):
They will face pitt for the championship of the Green
Briar tip Off, the Inaugural, the first annual, the Inaugural
Green Brier tip Off. That one is going to tip
off at four thirty on Sunday, so that is going
to be when that tips off. Pregame coverage will begin
an hour before at three thirty, and with the Packer
(36:19):
game also going on at the same time, I believe
we're gonna be over on ten seventy the game for
that game broadcast, so the Packers will still be on
thirteen to ten, but the Badgers and of course the
jan K Security Solutions basketball postgame show will be on
ten seventy the game, so that's where we'll be as
that game tips off four to thirty on Sunday. Once again,
(36:42):
final score Wisconsin winners over UCF eighty six to seventy.
For our producer, Casey James, for Nick Brucewitz, I'm Dave Gasper.
Speaker 2 (36:51):
Thank you for listening.
Speaker 1 (36:52):
This has been the jan K Security Solutions basketball postgame.
Speaker 4 (36:55):
Show at the Greenbrier Resort called America's Resort, but it's
the Badgers Resort. Tonight as they knock off UCF eighty
six to seventy and move on to the championship game
of the inaugural Greenbrier Classic. Greenbriar tip off underway in
a big way.
