Speaker 2 (00:09):
It's madeaway. Fifteenth quarter is through Douglas. Doctor Rod Douglas.
Lit's sit up with the.

Speaker 3 (00:13):
Free throw line and it's good on a driving shot
there by Hallie Douglas.

Speaker 1 (00:19):
Wisconsin Women's basketball is brought to you by a Lion Energy.
A Lion Energy is powering beyond for you and by you.
W Health Sports Medicine treating the Badgers, treating you. Welcome
to the Badger pregame show. Here's the voice of Wisconsin
women's basketball, John Odias.

Speaker 2 (00:41):
From the hard Rock Hotel Rivier Amaya. Welcome to the
Cancun Challenge, as the Badgers have traveled to Mexico for
three games in three days. Happy Thanksgiving and welcome to
our broadcast. Along with our producer Sean Freeble and Dave
Gasper Read Magnum filling in for John Audias. Game one
of the tournament as the five and one Wisconsin Badgers
gets said to take on the undefeated six and zero

(01:01):
San Diego State as Techs coming up. During our pre game,
we'll get a scout of San Diego State. We'll take
a look at the Badger notebook and we'll look at
the around the Big Ten. But when we return, we'll
visit with the head coach of the Badgers, Brissimosli, the
Badgers and the Aztecs of San Diego State. This is
Badger's Holiday Tournament basketball from lear Field, Wisconsin, having game
one in the CANCUD Challenge taking on the San Diego State.

(01:22):
As text, we're talking with the head coach of the Badgers,
mrs and Mosley coach. Before we talk business at hand.
Your players swam with dolphins yesterday. I talked to Lean
about it earlier. She had the biggest smile on her face.
What's it mean when these players come to Wisconsin, you
guys give the memories that last a lifetime.

Speaker 4 (01:36):
Yeah, I mean, I think we talk about that. You know,
it's a holistic experience and that at the end of
the day, it is bigger than basketball. Obviously, we want
them to get a great education, we want them to
play at a really high level, but we also there's
another part of them that you know, oftentimes these kids
have not had these experiences or traveled internationally or anything

(01:56):
like that, and so we're really fortunate that we're able
to afford them those opportunities.

Speaker 2 (02:00):
You're a coach, your whole coaching staff. Preparation for these
games is so critical. Watching Game one VCU Providence kind
of low scoring, some bricks off the backboard, and all
players have to deal with converted ballroom half an hour
this morning for warm ups. How does that affect, especially
the shooters for your team as they get ready for this.

Speaker 4 (02:19):
Yeah, you know, I think one of the things you
just got to embrace whatever space you're in there. There's
two hoops, it's the same length court, and yeah, the
you know, there might be chandeliers or you know, recess
lighting or whatever. But I think at the end of
the day, you know, players want to play, and I
think when we got on the court today for the

(02:41):
thirty minutes, we just did a lot of shooting so
they could really kind of get familiar because that was
our first time being on there. And so over the
course of three days, you hope that they kind of
settle in. And I think also once you kind of
see the ball going a few times and you're feeling
more comfortable again.

Speaker 2 (02:56):
We're talking with the head coach of the Bantagers, Mursa
Mosley a couple more for your coach, your team five
and one. You've had close wins, you've had bigger wins,
you've had a tough road game. Is you get into
these neutral site games? I know these are important and
you do this for later on in the season. What
changes besides just the floor and all that when you
have a neutral site game in three games in three days?

Speaker 4 (03:15):
Yeah, I think you know, you kind of approach it
like a conference tournament. You know, if you have an
opportunity to win a conference championship, oftentimes you have to play,
you know, at least three games in three days. And
then also when it comes to neutral sites, you don't
have that the benefit of a home crowd or even
the opposing crowd doesn't necessary unless they travel really well,

(03:36):
and so far that's not been the case. And so
you've got to be able to generate your own energy.
You've got to be able to really stay focused, and
you know, our bench is going to be really critical
as well.

Speaker 2 (03:47):
And that was my last question. Do you go to
them early, do you go deeper? How does it change
with these three games?

Speaker 4 (03:52):
Yeah, we talked about that with our rotations, kind of
slightly adjusting that understanding that we want to be fresh
at the end of the tournament, so that third game and
so kind of figuring out combinations. We've talked quite a
bit about that, making sure it won't necessarily look like
a normal game, and that this is a time when

(04:13):
we've talked about our depths so much early on this
season that hopefully we have an opportunity to really Showkesa
that's the.

Speaker 2 (04:19):
Head coach of the Bangers, Mursa Mosley. We'll get the scout
of San Diego State when we return. This is Badge
of Basketball from Lear Bank. At the Cancun Challenge Wisconsin
taking on San Diego State, we'll get a scout of
the Estex with assistant coach Jamie Glusen coach. They have
eleven players averaging over ten minutes per game. Do you
expect as the competition gets tougher for them to continue that?

Speaker 5 (04:38):
You know, we showed a lot of people on the
scout because, like you said, they play a lot of
people pretty heavy minutes, and we actually do expect that
to kind of continue in this tournament just because of
how many games you're to play in how many days? Right,
So we showed a lot so hopefully they're locked in
and know the personnel for everybody.

Speaker 2 (04:56):
Offensively, they were aggressive against Bakersfield. What it stands out
to you when you watch them on film.

Speaker 5 (05:01):
I think they do a great job off of ball screens,
they said a lot of them. I think that's kind
of the bread and butter of what they want to
do offensively. But defensively they're really aggressive too, so it
kind of goes both ways. So we want to just
make sure that we're matching the physicality of them, and
I think that we will. I mean, we're used to
playing against some pretty physical teams, so we hope to
make them a little bit rattled today.

Speaker 2 (05:19):
One more question. You guys can watch these games as
they play, so right now as we're taping this, you've
got Providence in VCU. How much does that help the
scout for you guys seeing in person you're sitting right
next to the floor.

Speaker 5 (05:29):
Yeah, that's funny you say that because we were just
talking as coaches like this is so nice to just
be right here in the action and seeing things, hearing things,
watching it live. So it really does help. It especially
helps for play calls, but really just to get a
feel for how fast they play. Also, because film doesn't
always portray it.

Speaker 6 (05:45):
The same way does live.

Speaker 2 (05:46):
Thanks coach, good luck, Thank you. That's assistant coach Jamie Glusing,
the scout of San Diego State. When we come back,
we'll get you the Badger notebook. This is the Cancun
Challenge from the Hard Rock Hotel Rivier am I in Mexico.
This is Badger's basketball from lear Field. Game continues, Wisconsin
getting ready to take on San Diego State, Game one
of the cant Coon Challenge down here in beautiful Mexico.
Let's look at the Badger notebook and UW is the

(06:08):
home team today, so they'll be in their home whites.
And this is only the second meeting all time these
two programs have matched up. The last time was back
in twenty fifteen. It was in San Diego at that
Holiday tournament and Wisconsin lost to the Aztecs in overtime
sixty three two fifty seven. A couple things here with
the players. Tes Myers. Where's number three? She is good
at shooting the three. She comes in at forty nine

(06:30):
percent from downtown, which is incredible. Six games in the
last Badger to average over forty percent from three point
land in a season was Marsha Howard the twenty eighteen
twenty nineteen campaigns. So again we're only six games in,
but hooy tes Meyers when she shoots it from deep,
she is impressive. Ronnie Porter back in the lineup today.
She did not play last Saturday against Nebraska Omaha. She

(06:51):
comes in averaging three point seven assistant turnover ratio, So
hopefully Ronnie can come in and play a very clean
game today. And turnovers is a big part of what's
San Diego State really hangs their hat on. They're only
averaging thirteen point three turnovers per game, but they're forcing
opponents twenty turnovers per game on average. But the Badgers
are actually better through their first half dozen games, Wisconsin

(07:12):
only averaging twelve point eight turnovers per game. So both
of these teams limit their turnovers, and you have a
feeling like that'll be a big part of the story
today as which team wins turnover battle. That's to look
at the Badger notebook. Will take a break, we'll come
back and we'll take a spin around the Big ten
Wisconsin and San Diego State. This is Badger basketball from
Learfield State. Let's go back to yesterday. These holiday tournaments,

(07:32):
some not holiday tournaments, some are on campus, but a
lot of holiday tournaments a fun time of the year.
Going back to yesterday, six ranked USC no issues with
Seaton Hall in eighty four to fifty one victory. Nineteenth
ranked Illinois fell against fourteenth ranked Kentucky and Nashville Music
City Classics seventy six to fifty three. Let's see out
in the Bahamas, Washington defeats Southern sixty one to forty three.

(07:53):
It took overtime. Penn State hosting Drexel defeated them eighty
six to seventy eight, and Michigan State i saw Vanderbilt
yesterday seventy eight to two seventy. Let's jump ahead two
games today. One game has already gone final, and this
was at Daytona Beach. Eleventh ranked Ohio State no issues
with Old Dominion winning seventy to forty seven. Two other
games besides that, Purdue and Middle Tennessee will go at

(08:15):
it in the Fort Myers tip off. That's where the
Badgers were last year, and at five thirty this evening.
Right on the same floor for the Cancun Challenge, twenty
second ranked Iowa host Rhode Island that's our spin around
the Big Ten. When we come back, we'll get you
starters and the tip off Wisconsin taking on San Diego State.
This is Wisconsin Basketball from Learfield. Just about ready for
the Wisconsin starters to get announce. San Diego State breaking

(08:36):
down their huddle underneath their basket they were warming up
at They'll go across the way Beautiful CanCon Challenge hard
Rock Hotel, Riviera Maya. This is about an hour away
from the Cancun Airport. They have been hosting this tournament
for a long time. This is a nineteenth year for
the Wisconsin Tournament and this is the tenth season they've
been here at the hard Rock Hotel Rivie am Ia.
First nine years they moved around to some other spots,

(08:57):
Hurricanes Scott in the way of some of the things.
They've been here though for the last ten years and
they really do a nice job. There's two sides to
the bracket. On the women's side, so Mayan side is
what Wisconsin's on. That includes Providence. Wisconsin will play tomorrow
and then VCU on Saturday. Of course you've got San
Diego State in this side too. The Riviera has six
teams that does include Iowa out of the Big ten,

(09:18):
they only play two games. Wisconsin gets three games in
three days. On the Riviera side, those six teams only
play today and tomorrow and then they wrap up their
Cancun challenge. We know who the Wisconsin starters will be,
but with San Diego State, they switch up their lineup
quite a bit. Eight different players have started at least
one game this season. Eleven different astecs average at least

(09:38):
ten minutes per game. So we're still waiting for the
starters to either get put up on the stat sheet
or they'll just announce it and will announce it with them.
But with this as techs team, you're never exactly sure
who's going to get the start, especially since all the
players take off their warm up sweatshirts, so you're not
sure who will end up getting the go. Fred Magna
filling it for John Oudius. He is busy with Wisconsin volleyball.
Glad to have Sean Prieble and Dave g for producing.

(10:01):
Everybody is having a wonderful Thanksgiving. Wisconsin home white uniforms
with the red numerals front and back, and for the
Aztecs you've got dark black jerseys, black shorts with dark
red numerals. As a broadcaster, I like this uniform a lot.
I was watching their last game against Bakersfield and their
road uniforms were red on red basically, So this is

(10:23):
going to be much easier to see. Although we're pretty
much court size, so we've got a beautiful view of
things here in this converted ballroom. But it's not your
typical ballroom. These are really high ceilings. A half court
shot could be a little ippy, but they have a
lot of lighting in here. There are sometimes these ballrooms
where they're a little dimmer. They have got a lot
of recess lighting in here, so this really highlights the

(10:46):
court and some good fans in attendance. They've got folks
from around the Canpoon area who are here on the
far side by the basket. But we see a lot
of Badger red and probably some Aztec red across the
way too. So we'll get ready for these starters. Why
don't we go first with the Aztecs. We might name
them off as we go along here because they're across

(11:06):
the way, so we'll see who their starters are going
to be. They are six and zero, best start for
them since the nineteen eighty eight eighty nine season. Their
head coach is Stacy Terry Hudson. Twelfth season for her
at San Diego State University. Overall record one hundred and
sixty and one eighty five. So they're gonna announce the
astex here. We'll call them out as they do it.

(11:30):
So they will go with a five to six at
junior guard. She's out of Illinois. She wears number one.
Aaron Help miss last year due to injury. She's a
transfer from Mercer and really important player on their team,
and also got Veronica Sheppey. She's a five to nine
junior guard out of Washington. She wears number four. She's
a transfer from the University of San Diego. I'm gonna

(11:53):
go with a five to ten senior guard out of
Seattle Washington, number thirteen. This is Megan Fiso, one of
their best players. A six foot senior forward. She's out
of LA wears number twenty three. Averages eight point two
per game, almost five assists per contest. She has started
in now all seven games Mountain West honorable mentioned last year.
She is camp be A Lobos. And then they will

(12:16):
go with a six to three senior forward out of Centennial, Colorado.
She wears number thirty one Callie Clark. What we'll watch
for is Edrianna Quezada didn't play last game. She was
a late scratch. She's a preseason All Mountain West player.
She is not in the starting lineup here. She started
in the other five games she's played in. So we'll
see if number thirty two suited up in this game,

(12:37):
and if she is, we'll see what her playing time
situation is going to be. So we'll pay attention. Does
look like she suited up, but she will start off
on the bench. She's a very important player for the
Aztecs all right. For the Badgers, five and one for them,
best starts since the twenty nineteen twenty twenty season, fourth
year four Marissa Mosley, their head coach. She is thirty
nine and fifty nine seven season overall as a head coach,

(12:58):
eighty four and eighty eight. The Badger started per usual
six to one sophomore center out of Ohio, number one
Carter McCrae, five to nine graduate student guard out of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania,
number three Testamos five for junior guard. Great to have
her back in the lineup. Hails from Saint Paul Minnesota
number thirteen. Ronnie Porter then, a five eight graduate student
of guard from Monroe, Wisconsin. Twenty four at Natalie Leitzinger,

(13:20):
coming off a season high sixteen points in her last
game and rounding out starting five for the Badge year
six foot junior forward from Brooklyn, New York, number twenty five.
I see hear her get announced. It is Sarah Williams
who needs to have a big game today. I think
Sarah's got a size advantage against these as Techs, but
the Aztecs do have more size than Wisconsin has seen

(13:41):
from most teams this year. So as always, Sarah's got
to bring it no different today. Twenty six career double doubles.
What she's coming off of in the last game on Saturday,
twenty points, fourteen rebounds, and she has dialed in and
ready to go, and we are ready to go as well.
Great to have you long here on this Thanksgiving Day.
Got Fox Sports ten seventy the game in Madison or

(14:03):
ten seventy the game in Madison, Fox Sports nine twenty
in Milwaukee and worldwide on your iHeartRadio app. Badgers will
break it down here for their final look as sex
already out on the floor ready to get things started.
Game tomorrow will be Providence, that'll be ten o'clock Central Time,
and then VC you on Saturday for twelve thirty. After

(14:23):
the tournament, the Badgers do get into Big Ten play,
they'll take on Rutgers for Sunday, December eighth, at two o'clock.
John will be back for the call on that one.
John busy with volleyball, so always happy to go south,
enjoy some warmth and call some good Badger of basketball
for Wisconsin struggled in the last couple of Thanksgiving tournaments,

(14:44):
and you can tell this team they really want to
have success in this Thanksgiving tournament this year. Sierra Williams
do the honors here for the Badger six to four
ce Stans Kelly Clark is six three toasts and tap
that is controlled by San Diego State. And we are
underway for the Cancun Challenge off Providence. In game one,
fifty seven to fifty one. It was very close to
the end, and we'll see what Wisconsin can do here.

(15:06):
Starting off with the man a man defense. Sheffie inside
the circle goes off to help. This is moving two
hour left top of the circle. Four Villa Lobo She's
gonna go inside against Carter McCrae. One hand with the
right side that is missed too strong rebound by McCrae.
Wisconsin will come down for their first offensive possession. Ronnie
Porter settles things down as she goes to work Tesmeyer's
high on the left side wing. Right away they go

(15:27):
to Williams left block, backing down her defender Clark. She'll
pump once, goes up, sat on the rim halfway down,
rolls out. McCrae takes it away. Though everybody's got to
come back as they were getting on defense. She'll do
it herself, taking on three as dex Carter McCrae, big
smile ash. She moves down the floor, gets the Badgers
on the board on the first possession. Fifty seconds in
two zip uw fizo. Now off to Sheffie Shaffie top

(15:52):
of the circle, moves inside on lighting her flips it
up no but to foul and I believe she will
earn two free throws. Veronica Sheffey first foul of the
game here and Sheffie will go to the free throw line.
She comes in five of eight from the charity stripe

(16:12):
through the first six games for San Diego State. She's
a southpaw first one up too strong off the back
of the iron. He heard us talk to coach Moseley
about in the pregame. You noticed it with VCU Providence.
Some of the good shooters they struggled. And you have
a converted ballroom. It's different the arenas they're used to.
Each team had thirty minutes this morning. Dude, get on

(16:33):
this floor for the first time, and other than warm ups,
that's it. So a bit of a feeling out process
maybe in the early going. Second free throw did go
through for sheffe So two to one. The Badgers lead
back on offense. Minutes seven in left to the circle
for Williams. Thought about a long too. She'll keep it down,
plenty of time on the shock lock, hands it off
to Port. Now she'll try dribble drive, gets cut off
by Sheefy. She'll try the right side. She'll go up,

(16:54):
throws it up awkward, a little off rebound comes down
to San Diego State. Two to one. The Badgers now
ninety seconds in right away up to Sheffy inside that
free throw line. She'll throw up to thirteen footer and
that goes through the back of the neck three to two.
The Aztecs back to the Badgers. We go offensively as
they move to our right. Porter over the can Kun

(17:15):
Challenge logo, got the aqua, the burnt orange, everything you'd
expect for a Cancun logo to have Natlee Lightsinger bounce
fast left of the circle. There's McCrae top of the wheel,
Myers hunting a three. She'll shoot a three left of
the circle, wide right, not close. Williams couldn't grab the
Badger board instead at Sheffy in San Diego State, back
the other way, help thinking about a three. Instead, they'll

(17:35):
go inside to Clark. She'll back out right baseline away
from Williams. Now she'll go cross court, left corner. Sheffey
passes it up. Instead, She'll try a ten footer that's
a little flat. No rebound comes down, poked out and
it was off San Diego State. It will go to
the Badger's good fight in there for Natalie Lightsinger download
to force it off the as techs ssconsin bench across

(17:57):
the way to our left. As Tex to our right,
wipe that spot on the floor where some players went down,
and McCrae will toss it into Ronnie Porter to twelve
in three to two. The as TECs lead Wisconsin back
on offense. San Diego State running a man demand defense.
Myers on the right side, off to Carter McCrae. She's

(18:18):
at the top of the wheel. Give it to Porter
on the left side. Porter gonna step inside the circle,
trying to find a three point shot in her own
right Nothing there instead, down to Williams. Back's down to
defender left block strong Sarah Williams. Hours are way through
the as Techs defense sconsin four to three, day lead
seven to twenty to go. First quarter, left side Tizo

(18:38):
trying to go in against test Myers back outside. Clark
thought about a three. She's tall, but she can pop
from downtown. Now it goes off a leg of Ronnie Porter.
Didn't realize it. Defensively, They'll stick with it. Tend to
shoot for the Aztecs. Folobo's gonna try and drive inside now,
Cheffy eight to shoot show go in, pops it out.
There's Clark left baseline two. A little wide left rebound
goes to Ronnie Porter. The Badgers four to three uw

(19:01):
undred seven to go opening quarter. Only one foul so
far been cleaned through the first three minutes and change.
Porter now looking back behind her, coach Moseley calling out
the offensive set that she'd like. Porter moves at the
top of the circle. She'll try a three and that
one bricks off the left side of the backboard. Rebound
there though for Carter McRae, Wisconsin sticks with it's six
to shoot. Now William's gonna try a three that's left

(19:23):
short off the front of the rim, rebound to Clark.
The Aztecs will push its San Diego State likes to
move in transition help tries the left side gets cut
off the defense there by Porter. Now shey inside all alone.
There was Clark Williams sloganetting over off the help defense
give San Diego State the five to four advantage. Six
fourteen to go, quarter number one between the Wheels, Lightsinger

(19:46):
the right elbow. Williams back to Lightsinger with a chess pass.
She'll move inside the aqua paint. Oh got hit up
in the eye late foul there and she got poked
in the eye inadvert and I think Clark the one
who poked her. Yes, it was. That's her first teams
first and this will be an inbound so we'll see

(20:07):
if light Singer's gonna try and stay in there. Porter
and Williams will come out. Halle Douglass and dannas Menez
will check in, and they're gonna let Leitzinger stay in there.
Rub of the eye a couple times, and dannasmn Is
to do the inbound. Here's Douglas wide open two from
fifteen feet away, left side off the rim, no rebound,
high up possession. Arrow will stay with Wisconsin. Good fight

(20:30):
by Carter McCrae. San Diego State. It'll get a late
sub in here. They roll a lot of players, and
especially with the tournament like this, you'd expect that to continue.
As we'll see Bailey Barnhardt check in for the first time,
takes out Clark. He're the Badgers offensively test Myers outside

(20:52):
that restricted area, she'll go up fouled. She'll go to
the free throw line for two. Good to see test
Myers get aggressive down low. When you shoot as many
threes as he does, oftentimes you're not necessarily going to
the rim, creating chances. She's just attempted two free throws
so far this season, and she's got good size down there,
five to nine. But she's strong and two free throws

(21:14):
for the Badger sharpshooter. She's one for two on the season,
perfect swish. There evens a score at five, five point
fifty two to go in the first quarter. Carter mccraig
gonna come back out here, so Wisconsin will send someone deep.
They don't want anyone to leak out and transition. Myers

(21:34):
gets that second free throw to go hit him both
and Wisconsin set up a little full court pressure. Now
all right, they will break that rather easily. San Diego
State in the far sideline here, chef, he's six to five.
The Badger lead five point forty remaining quarter number one
on the right side. Green just checked in the game.
She'll pop a three and she buries it, so jasline. Green.

(21:54):
She's five eleven. She looks taller than that when you
watch her, but she can shoot that triple. Hit it
against Bakersfield in the last game. Well, here's Cardia McCrae
now backing down the defender. Pump Fox once sought she
got fouled. Ooh, late whistle call the Carda McCrae will
go to the free throw line. She pumped fake God
her defender in the air thought she got hit late,
whistled by the ref. Two free throws upcoming for Carda McCrae.

(22:18):
More subs here. For San Diego State, Ronnie Port'll come
up to the scores table. If she's gonna take out
Natalie Leitzinger, No, it'll be Tess Myers. Sarah Williams will
also come back. She's gonna come in for the shooter,
and we'll see Yogana Spashowski who will replace Natalie Leitsinger.
It's one of the parts of three games in three days.

(22:39):
You're gonna mix up your lineups a little bit. You're
gonna go to your bench early, and often you're gonna
have to get big performances from the freshman Spashofski and
d nnism men is gonna have to give you a
clean minute. Sometimes turnover is a little bit of a
challenge for first free throw misses. For Carda McCrae, Callie
Douglass with that graduate student experience, you'll lean on her too.

(23:00):
McCray just a sixty three percent free throw shooter, so
the free throws don't come too easy for her. Second
one goes through, we'll bring Williams in. Carter McCrae out
so Wisconsin trailing eight to seven, five point twenty two
left in the first. Another three quarters court pressure here,
Wisconsin just trying to slow the astext down. They're not
going for the ball, risking anything, just guiding you up

(23:22):
the floor. Cheffie on the right side, pops it over
the right corner. There's Green. Gonna try another three, and
she connects long two. They'll say foot on the line,
long two for Green. But she's two for two from deep.
Ten to seven. The San Diego State leads under five
to go in the first. Williams right baseline, looking inside players,
nobody cutting. She's gonna go back outside Douglas three point

(23:45):
or right of the circ goal wide left. No rebound
comes down to San Diego State sconsin three pointers here
now one for two. Green goes outside Barnhard. She'll move
left of the paint back to Green left corner. She'll
try it no three. Oh boy, she has hit three
straight shots from deep. That one is a triple. Thirteen

(24:06):
to seven. San Diego State opens a lead to six,
four and a half to go in the first. Sarah
Williams now left of the circle, Spashofski right of the
circle screen there from Williams. Back to Williams. She'll try
a three. That's a long two. Actually missed it. Long
SHOT's not coming easy for Wisconsin. Up ahead quickly. Here
comes San Diego State. This is what they like to do.

(24:27):
Get a miss and then come up quickly and get
you out of system. There's Martinez. She'll drive miss that
big badger rebound by Sarah Williams. Wipe of the nose.
As she goes off to Ronnie Porter. She'll jog up
the floor. Good pace for Ronnie moves high on the
right side. Williams wats down low. She is backing down
a defender. Coach Mosey's got other ideas, and Ronnie Porter
will move left of the circle. Chess pass off to Douglas,

(24:49):
wide open three pointer. That one rattles home. Hallie. Douglas
answers with a three. He's team shooting pretty well here
out of the gate. Wisconsin five of nine from the field,
and we are thirteen to ten, Wisconsin trailing three thirty
three left in the first back to it. Now down low,

(25:11):
there's Martinez. Oh sdrag that pivot put two or three steps.
Referee calls at as your players jumping up and the
referee does blow the whist till media time out of
the floor. We'll take our first break in game three
twenty five left in the first, Wisconsin trailing San Diego
State thirteen to ten. Back to Cancoon after this, you're
listening to Badger basketball from Learfield. Back at the Kancun Challenge,
hard Rock Hotel rivier E Maaya as Wisconsin taking on

(25:34):
San Diego State first to three games, Wisconsin trailing the
Aztecs thirteen to ten. Right now, we watch Sarah Williams
one of four from the field, so just two points,
a couple points for Test Meyers on those two free throws,
and then a three point three points here four Cardi McCrae,
three points for Hallie Douglass. As we said in the
open turnovers, we'll watch that both teams very good at

(25:55):
avoiding the turnovers. Here in the early going San Diego
State with two, Wisconsin has not turned the ball over
yet and it will be badge of basketball. As we
continue play three twenty five left in the first, Wisconsin
down three. Douglas Porter Lightsinger back in Myers and Williams
the five in white for the home team. Badgers. Ronnie
Porter moves up the floor, across the timeline, puts the

(26:18):
number up in the air. We'll switch to his own
defense will San Diego State. Here's Douglas right of the circle,
back outside for Porter. Porter gonna move on the right side,
wide open, Halle Douglas right of the circle. Three little
wide right out of her hand, missed it long rebound
comes down two oh. Last touch by San Diego State
at Natalie Leitzinger. That pesky play show get in there
and then guard off the defender who last touched it.

(26:40):
Wallser off and gives Wisconsin a free possession. Porter inbound.
First option not there, Second option not there. She'll go
to the third option, that is Halle Douglas hands it
right back off to Porter. Fresh shot clock here for Wisconsin.
Douglas fighting her way down low. There is Sarah Williams.
She'll pump up. Once goes around the foul basket, goes

(27:01):
Sarah Williams a chance at the three point play. I'll
say this, San Diego State six to zero competition hasn't
been the toughest for the first six games. I'll tell
you they have not taken out a player like Sarah
Williams through the first six games. I guarantee you that
Sarah Williams doing Sarah Williams things there. So one free

(27:22):
throw gives Wisconsin tie if she makes it, and we
are even at a baker's dozen each. Thirteen thirteen, two
fifty six to go in the first quarter. End of
the game. Here Naomi Pond Guineebon. She'll work the point
guard position, bounce pass off to Fiso. She'll try right
side Martinez, pass up a three, right back to Fiso.

(27:43):
She'll try a three. That one over the top of
everything went off the backboard. Douglas fighting for position, draws
a foul on Barnhard. But we're there by Hallie Douglass.
Bad your fan behind us likes that too. First foul
by Barnhard. That is now fourteen fouls called on San
Diego's Wisconsin with just one they'll make that. Now two

(28:04):
personal fouls on Barnhard. Let me check that as they
were a little late getting that up. That is now
the fifteenth foul so Wisconsin in the bonus. With two
thirty nine left in the first Sconson's that one team foul,
so big advantage. Badger's first free throw up and through
for Halle Douglas. Douglas comes into the game just two

(28:25):
of three shooting free throws. Has not been there very often.
Looked good on that first one, spins the ball in
her hands, up and Goodisconsin up to a fifteen to
thirteen lead to thirty nine left in the first be
a Lobos. Off upon Guineebon and they will move up
the floor across the timeline. She comes on the left side,

(28:48):
Testa Meyers, wanting to force her left. Tawn Ganema will
go left. Fought to drag that pivot foot Badger bench
wanted it. They won't call it. Be a Lobos now,
she'll leave it short in the paint rebound Tess Myers
ssconsin motors up the floor Myers, Tarani Porter right the
circle down low, there's william She goes up strong and
off the backboard and in Sarah Williams starting to heat up.

(29:08):
Now Wisconsin four point advantage two ten re mating and
quarter number one, largest lead for the Badgers in the
early going. Upon guineebonbounts fast on the right side. He's
so looking for options down low Wisconsin with Sarah Williams,
she is just so much bigger than the Astacs. It's
hard for them to work down in that painted area.
Foul on a three point shot by Ronnie Porter called

(29:29):
for the foul. Porter says she kicked that legout and
drew that foul. That shouldn't be allowed. Coach Mosley also
saying she's throwing that right legout. Re refrio. Go talk
to coach Mobe. This is three free throws for San
Diego State. First personal called on Porter, just the second
for Wisconsin as a team. And this is Martinez who

(29:53):
will be at the free throw line. Carter McCrae in,
Halle Douglas out. San Diego State will counter with cal
Clark comes back in, takes out via Lobos so Nat
Martinez eighty percent free throw shooter. She's a freshman. Her

(30:13):
free throw connects. Second free throw for her, high fives
to her team. Remember she has three free throws here,
here's the second. That one also connects. Yeah, she's an
eighty percent free throw shooter, and you can tell she
is confident in that spot. California native, as you would

(30:37):
expect a lot of California Natives on the San Diego
State team, and she hits three of three free throws
Ronnie Porter did not like that call. Cuts the lead
to Wisconsin down to one. A buck fifty to left
in quarter number one, Ronnie Porter off the light Singer,
they'll break that token three quarterscore press Lightsinger picked up

(30:58):
or dribble. Ronnie Porter, why open three? Left side it?
She splashes it. Ronnie Porter hits the three. Wisconsin back
up to the four point lead, twenty to sixteen, one
thirty three left from the first. This has been a
good first quarter for Wisconsin. Start off a little slow,
really found their rhythm the last four minutes. Paun Guinebon
now to Green, she can hit that serie looking for

(31:19):
a step back. Myers well aware though. She sticks with her.
Now Martinez hit the free throw line, picks up her dribble.
Light Singer, the graduate student all over her nine to
shoot sconsin bench getting loudier. Coach Mo saying, get your
hands up. Five seconds. Here's Martinez. She's gonna drive. Goes up,
brought the way by Williams and the Badgers come back
the other way. Ronnie Porter with a two on one.
Porter goes up Green is taller, leaves it short free

(31:40):
bound to Green. It's up there for Porter on the
much taller green back outside. Now Martinez tries a wide
open tree left corner and she hits. So what goes
to a turnover to chance for Wisconsin instead a three
pointer for San Diego State. Lead for Wisconsin twenty to
nineteen forty three seconds left from the first Porter, She's

(32:01):
gonna drive on pon gineebon back outside. McCrae gives the
Myers Wisconsin running offense. Myers inside the circle outside there's Williams.
They're gonna give her a three if she wants it. Instead,
pass it down to McCrae eight to shoot on the
shot clock and ricked out of her hands by Martinez.
Jump ball possession arrow to San Diego State, and there's
a turnover call on Wisconsin. Halle Douglass back up to

(32:23):
the store's table. We'll take out Sarah Williams. The Nisamentez
will come in for Ronnie Porter. Shot clock turned off here,
so they want to get some of those players. Can't
risk a foul for Williams and Porter late, and I
would expect the Astex to play for the final shot
of the first quarter. They're down twenty to nineteen twenty

(32:45):
seven seconds remaining in the first pond. Ganeebon will walk up,
gets directions from her coach, so she'll hold it at
the half court line. Waste some clock here off to
Green Hi on the left side. Now they're gonna start
some offense. Thirteen seconds Dizo trying to go down low.
Be a Lobos. Eight seconds, be a Lobos. I'm McRae.
She'll go up strong. Bricked it off the backboard. Wisconsin.

(33:08):
Four seconds here at Danni Simenez comes up the floor.
Two seconds, gonna throw it up. It'll count if it
goes left. It short, she said, I got followed on
the elbow on the shot. Referees don't see it, and
that'll do it for it. Up and down. First quarter
of action, twenty to nineteen. Wisconsin with the league will
take a break. We'll come back with first quarter stats,
says the can Coon Challenge. You're listening to Badge of

(33:28):
basketball from Learfield. Today's game has brought to you in
part my Alliance Energy. Visit Alliant energy dot com to
see how Alliant Energy invests in diverse energy solutions for
today and the future. After one quarter of play, Wisconsin
leading San Diego State twenty to nineteen. Back down here
at Mexico at the Cancun Challenge. Let's look at these
first quarter stats. Wisconsin shooting six to seventeen from the field,

(33:49):
that is thirty five percent, san Diego State six to fourteen,
so just under forty three percent. Wisconsin two of seven
shooting three, san Diego State three for four free throws
have been good for Wisconsin, and six of seven from
the free throw line, San Diego State four of five
for Wisconsin. Out rebounding the Aztecs eleven to seven. And
as we've talked about, both teams good at avoiding the turnovers.

(34:11):
Wisconsin one turnover, san Diego State with two. They were
about to inbound. Referee blows the whistle and we'll rerack things.
Not sure why the whistle was blown, but we're good
to start play here, Wisconsin moving to our right one
point advantage. Quarter number two begins Wisconsin home whites San
Diego State with the road black and red. And then

(34:32):
as the start things off in the second quarter, running
the point guard position to Halle Douglass top of the
wheel off to Testimeyer's hi on the left side. She'll
look for an opportunity top of the wheel. Nothing there
is people know She's a forty nine percent three point shooter.
They don't give her room intead. You'll get a back
door cut and a bottle, and she'll go to the
free throw line for two. Gave to Douglas top of
the key, then she cut back door, got a good

(34:53):
bounce pass from Douglas and drew the foul. Two free
throws from Myers individually or four. Wisconsin leading the way.
Sarah Williams seven points, three of six from the field,
five points for Douglas, three points a piece. McCrae and
Porter Myers will try to add to her two points
in the first free throw off the back of the
iron too strong. Meyers second free throw and that one

(35:21):
is pure and it gives Wisconsin a twenty one to
nineteen advantage. Twenty five seconds into quarter number two, up
come the Aztecs paun Gine Bunch. She will run that
point guard position high on the left side to Martinez
between the circles. Menez giving her some space. Now fizo
back to Martinez, shall pop a three left side, no
missed it, rebound bounced a round, comes down to Wisconsin Douglas.

(35:43):
She'll come up the floor astacs like that transition game. Wisconsin,
like to two off of a big skip pass. There's
Lightsinger three pointer left side edg She kidnacks Natalie Lightsinger
in rhythm three. Wisconsin twenty four to nineteen, five point
advantage one minute inch the second quarter. Three pointers Here
for Wisconsin, they are now four of six. Dizo on

(36:07):
the left side, back outside pond. Guineebon moves inside of
the painted area. Said, she'll pop it back out now
back to the other way outside from via Lobos two
pond Guineeban, She'll try a three too strong rebound. McCrae.
Let me switch that here for Wisconsin. That was actually
San Diego State stat Wisconsin three of eight shooting threes.

(36:27):
The left side is Douglas Myers cuts in front. Wiscons
will reset things offensively now, back door cut. That's a
good one from Jimenez. Goes up, oh offensive foul men
has a good idea and a good pass from Douglas
on the back door cut. You could tell San Diego
State had watched that on film and they were ready
for it. We'll get three as stacks that'll come in.

(36:51):
SCons will bring in just Sarah Williams takes out Douglas
deep bench. San Diego State very deep, seven players in
their fourth year and five players in their fifth year
or later. And it's pretty amazing. They are one of
only twenty one schools that didn't lose a player to
the transfer portal in the offseason. What a different cudle
do we live in across all sports? That is just
six percent of schools that did not lose a player

(37:13):
to the transfer portal. Again, San Diego State just one
of twenty one in the whole country. Scott's a five
point lead is a lockdown on defense. Eight ten to
go second quarter, Hamilton in the game off to Quezada,
goes down low and that's gonna be amissed by Sheffey.
Rebound comes down to Jimenez. The Badgers have number three

(37:33):
on two if they push it from Porter up to
Williams off the glasshead in Sarah Williams. Good pass there
from Porter. Amenez got it started in Wisconsin twenty six
to nineteen. They lead seven to fifty to go before halftime.
Houp now got Porter in her back pocket, gets a
foul and we'll pause ten seconds for station identification. This
is Vange basketball from Learfield. No Badgers play here.

Speaker 1 (37:56):
We are wtso Medison, you guys just keep being you
an iHeartRadio.

Speaker 2 (38:01):
Station, Zaddy play there by. San Diego State had Porter
right in her back pocket and she just kind of waited,
leaned into her, let Porter run into her and drew
that foul. Just the first personal on Ronnie. No, they'll
say second on Ronnie Wisconsin with their second in this
second quarter, seven thirty eight to go before halftime, seven
point lead for the Badgers. Shaffy right of the circle,

(38:25):
She'll move to the right side, six to shoot. Sheffy
right baseline, gets double team tier going down. She'll get
it off two seconds. They got to throw it up.
Clark does no offensive fowl. You don't count that. And
a good job by Natalie Litsinger, just bouncing all around
these taller players. Finally gets knocked out of the floor
and there's one of those classic Natalie Lelitsinger plays gritty
down there, gives the Scott's in the ball back theo

(38:50):
Lobo will check in out, goes Clark. Clark hursed second
personal to his A team now for San Diego State,
so Lightsinger, Williams my in the forecourt, McCrae and Jimenez
will come up the floor for Wisconsin. Here's light singer
inside the key off to Meyer. She wants three. She'll
shoot it a little wide. Left. Rebound comes down to

(39:13):
Wisconsin's Williams. She's gonna back down the defender. Oh, she's strong.
Thought she got followed from by nothing called. She looks
the ref and says, where's the call? Comes San Diego State,
Hamilton on the left side. This is a physical game.
Hamilton comes in strong off the glass and it gets
home for San Diego State. Ben a little while since
safe scored five point leading out for the Badgers. Boy,

(39:33):
they left Sarah Williams all alone down low, and Amenez
fires it up and connects. If there's one player you
don't leave all alone, it is Sarah Williams. Wisconsin back
to a seven point lead six forty to go in
an up and down second quarter. Chaffie on the right side.
Douglas the check in at the next whistle for Wisconsin helped.
She'll get a stream back to Sheffey. She'll try a
three right in front of us, left side, left it short.

(39:55):
Rebound comes down to the Aztecs, though, now turn around there, quizada.
That one off the glass hit the rim went high
in the air and it gets down. Kazana leads the
team with twelve points per game, but then dealing with
the little something. Didn't play in the last game, don't
have an injury disclosed, didn't start in this game, and
she is now in she is preseason All Mountain West

(40:16):
going up against McCray. Right now is Kizada back outside
to Williams, So I'll go to Jimenez. Wisconsin resets offensively
nine in the shot clock screen from Williams Jimenez, She's
gonna drive cut Scott bumped by Sheffie four seconds down
low Leitzinger loses that ball all over the place, taken
there by. San Diego says, shot clock expires. Sheffee charges
up the floor to Hamilton left side in rhythm three

(40:38):
missed it wide left rebound comes down to Williams the Badgers.
She says, let's go to lightsing Ern Wisconsin comes up
the floor twenty eight to twenty three, Wisconsin leading here
five and a half to go before halftime. Amene's on
the left side, calling back to coach Mosley him Menez
left to the circle, players in front giving screens. Carter

(40:58):
McCrae left to the circle in there's Williams again, step
back with soul three seconds of the lane. Took a
little while to develop that play, and when you already
have a second or two, you're in there. By the
time you get it in that it's tough. Referee's gonna
call that the Menez out quarter in. We'll also get
Lena Patty Bandola, who's gonna come in, and we'll give

(41:21):
Natalie Leitzinger a breather. We'll hear from Paddy Bandola during
our halftime conversation. Visited with her a little earlier today.
She's a fun gallup talk to swam with the Dolphins.
Yesterday the team did an excursion and we'll hear talk
about that now. Kizada in the pain little fake left
goes right off the glass. Miss that one. Boy. That's

(41:42):
an awkward looking shot, but for her, she makes it
look pretty good. Here's Porter nowt before for Wisconsin sconsin
five point lead, five h five left in the second quarter.
Paddy Bandallo gonna pop a three right off the bench
and a midst but a foul down low on Oh
Hallie Douglas. She looks a little surprised by that ball.
Referee was right on it five minutes on the clock,

(42:05):
so that should draw media timeout and it will. So
that's the first personal on Douglas. Wisconsin up to three
as a team after a very clean first quarter. They're
up to three as a team now in the foul category,
five point lead for Wisconsin. We'll take a break back
after this. You're listening to Wisconsin basketball from lear Field
back at the Cantcun Challenge, hard Rock Hotel, Rivie a
Maaya here in Mexico, Reid Magna filling in for John Audios.

(42:28):
Hope you're enjoying your thanks Giving. Hope the deer hunters
are having success and fun time of the year here
as we are into the holiday season and holiday tournaments
per usual for Wisconsin twenty eight to twenty three. They
lead San Diego State five minutes left in the second quarter.
Looking at a few of these stats here in some
of the foul trouble san Diego State dealing with. They've
got three different players with two fouls, nobody with three.

(42:49):
Yet still plenty of time left in this first half
for Wisconsin. Ronnie Porter with those two and then one
for light singer Halle Douglas and Deannas Jimenez. Right now,
Sarah Williams eleven points. She is leading everyone. Five of
nine from the field, hit her one free throw, five
rebounds already for those the defensive varieties got a block.
So full stat sheet for Sarah Williams, Hally Douglas with

(43:11):
five points, and then four players with three points. This
will come up the full length of the floor. San
Diego State offensively, Myers, Douglas Porter in there with those two.
Lena Patty Bandela is in for Wisconsin, as is Sarah
Williams for Wisconsin. Up comes Veronica Sheffey inside the circle

(43:32):
for the Aztecs. Outside Hamilton. She'll try down low, good
feed and that one around the rim, missed it but
drew the foul. It's gonna be on Douglas, who went
sprawling to the floor, and she's gonna pick up her second.
So two fouls on Douglas in about twenty seconds free
throws for San Diego State. Wisconsin at four now as
a team, so it's bonus the rest of the way

(43:53):
for San Diego State, and they're still four to forty
seven left in the second. Douglas left take a seat
with those two in twenty eight to twenty three. They
lead two free throws four via Lobos comes in eleven
of nineteen from the free throw line. It's an adventure
for her, and she does miss the first. As soon

(44:14):
as she shot it, she started bouncing on her toes.
She didn't look confident with the shot. She'll try another
one here and that one, that one does hit. So
one for two free throws. Back to Wisconsin we go.
Twenty eight, twenty four. The Badgers lead. Ronnie Porter with
those two personal fouls. She's got to be careful. Tess
Meyer's top of the circle for Wisconsin. Off to Porter,

(44:35):
looking inside, nothing there, Williams is said, offering screen. She
gives it to Myers, Hamilton all over defensively. Now she'll
go to Williams. She's gonna try a shot. Left it
flat and short rebound comes down to Sheffie. But as
strong as Williams is, I'd say back them down every time.
Don't settle for that shot. And then Sheffy comes up
the floor, coast to coast. What's a layup in off
the left side. Not good defense for Wisconsin. Two point

(44:57):
lead now for the Badgers, four thirteen les in the
second quarter. Ronnie Porter, Tom of the circle. She'll move
right of the paint, backs it out, try to force
it there to Williams. There's a turnover now with Scott's
and getting a little sloppy. Up comes Va Lobos. I'm
Paddy Bandola goes up and under and a little euro
step moved there by Va Lobos, and just like that

(45:18):
we are tied at twenty eight three point fifty left
in the first left in the first half. Scott's needs
a basket here, lightsing her between the circles. Bounce pass
down to Williams. You go to her when you need
a bucket. Williams not gonna back anyone down the Instead,
she'll offer a screen to Porter. Porter goes the opposite way,
trying to look on the pick and roll. Nothing there.

(45:39):
Paddy Bandlo with seven is shoes bandal outside for Myers
four inside. They're gonna go to Williams two to shoes.
She's gonna have to force to turn around edge. He
hits it. Sarah Williams, with the shot clock expiring, gets
the Badgers up to thirty points. They lead thirty to
twenty eight three sixteen left in the second quarter. Hamilton
now iNTS Patty bans she'll throw it over the top,

(46:02):
hits the rim twice. Paddy Bandal has some good minutes
here for the Badgers. Off the bench. Sky's for the board. Now,
she'll flip it off two quarner and she draws the
foul all the way in the back court against Hamilton,
and a little frustrated with that, Coach Moseley says, relax,
she'll go off to the bench, so Myers will take
a seat. And for Wisconsin they have only four players

(46:25):
on the floor. No light Singer going to toss it
in all right, thought light sn was going to the bench. No,
Paddy Bandala and Myers go off and light Singer will
stay on. Onn comes Lily Crawn for Wisconsin five to
ten Junior out of Prairie to Sheen William's also there.
Crawn off to the Nismenas, who also checked in. She
tried to go over the top. Not on the same
page with Williams. Williams wanted to back her down instead.

(46:48):
Jamenas thought she was going towards the basket and try
to float it over the top, and we'll go back
to San Diego State two forty five lap before half time,
Wisconsin's lead is too be a. Lobos handed off to Sheffy,
top of the wheel. Sheffy between legs, ribble, now crossover
at the free throw line, fifteen footer. He missed it.
Rebound to Sarah Williams Wisconsin back the other way, Porter crossover.

(47:11):
She's gonna drive. Oh nice dime drop there lights in
her right block off the window at home the division
there by Ronnie Porter with that five to four frame,
and it might be generous when she gets in those
tallet players. Her defender loses her. They can't find her.
Theo Lobos left of the circle to Fiso. Now Kazata, lookout,

(47:32):
she's dangerous. She'll go cross court right corn a three pointer,
there's Green and she hits another one boy Green. That
is her third three. She also had a long two
and Wisconsin lead cut to one under two to go
first half, and then as the lily krawn at the
right elbow, there's Williams Oh swiped away via Lobos. She
put it over. He had Williams Va Lobos pushed it

(47:53):
away from her. Now Sheffy to the right block, goes
up and there's that vintage Quizada. She's right block goes
up kind of flailing her arms and gets it to
go with two inside drive Porter and she'll draw the
foul Cheffie didn't like to call. That's on the floor.
I believe that'll be the third team follow maybe the

(48:15):
fourth for San Diego State. It's not going to be
free throws off the bonus. I don't believe McCrae and
Myers back in Crown and Williams out they're gonna put
this at the free throw line. So they must have
said on the shot, first personal on Sheffey four is
a team for San Diego State. First free throw hit

(48:37):
about every part of that rim and did not connect
for Porter, seventy five percent free throw shooter this year,
she'll get the second one. Sconson. Now trailing by one,
and now they're even thirty three, y'all, ninety five seconds
left before we had half time. Sheffield walking up the floor.

(48:59):
Sconson madam fizo left of the circle, thought about a three.
Myers got there just in time to have her change
direction now and be a lobo backing down. McCray be
a lobos, goes up strong and missed a good defense
there by Carter McCrae be a Lobo. She's a senior.
She's a crafty player against the sophomore McCrae. John By
McCray there, she's thicker, both players about the same height.

(49:23):
Here the Badgers now offensively tie to thirty three, sixty
seconds to go before halftime. Amenez looking for a screen
for McCray. Hemenez not wanting to shoot, though not trusting
her shot light singer download to McCrae. She'll turn around,
look at the paint. Six seconds in the shot clock.
McCray trying to back down. Be a Lobo struggling with
the dribble. Only two seconds A mena is gonna have
to throw this one up. She gets off in time

(49:43):
off the backboard. No McCrae comes in rebound tie up,
it'll go to San Diego State. But a nice job
by McCrae, just doing what she could to at least
force the jump ball. Is there big, It's a big
part of the game here. Forty two point eight left
before halftime. You don't o'clock. San Diego State gonna pull

(50:04):
it back here and they'll run some of this clock.
They're not gonna have a two for one opportunity before
the half. Here's Sheppy's gonna drive up now, pull it
back right block fadeaway jumper. Coach Mosey said, that's a
pretty that's a pretty big drag in the pivot foot
referees leaning on it. Shot clock turned off thirty five
to thirty three. San Diego State and Wisconsin will play

(50:24):
for the final shot of the first half. Ten seconds.
Porter moves top of the circle. Lightsinger. Seven seconds, light
singer top of the circle. She'll drive, took a couple
steps and throw it off wildly, not close one second.
This will get off for Porter and the halfway down
and rattles down. Porter puts her hands at her forehead
and says sheh an eventful end of the first half. There.

(50:47):
Wisconsin goes into the break down thirty five to thirty three.
Coming up. During our halftime, we get to team stats
individual stats. But as always we'll come back and we'll
do our player interview with Lena Standy Bandel the Can
Coon Challenge Game one for Wisconsin trailing by two at half.
This is Wisconsin basketball from Learfield back at the Can
Coon Challenge. Half time here, Wisconsin trailing San Diego State

(51:10):
thirty five to thirty three. One other game going on
right now nationally of interest. There's one thirty five leapt
four halftime down the Fort Myers tip off, fourth ranks
South Carolina against fifteenth ranked Iowa State. Probably best day
of the game nationally in women's college basketball South Carolina.
They are leading against Iowa State thirty five to nine.
South Carolina again ranks top five, but Iowa State ranked

(51:33):
top fifteen. And that is all South Carolina here in
the first half down there in Fort Myers. We are
here in Mexico the hard Rock Hotel Rivie A Maya halftime,
AND's talk about Lena Patti Bandela, who is a player
really fun to talk to. She's got a huge smile
and she's just enjoying being a part of this team,
playing some important minutes there off the bench here in

(51:54):
this first half and earlier today, got a chance to
catch up with her and just ask her about the
experience all of this, and also asked her about being
in the airport a couple of days ago and kind
of a neat moment. So here's a conversation we had
earlier today with sophomore Lina Patti Bandla. Lena, do you
remember how old you were when you started playing the
game of basketball?

Speaker 7 (52:14):
I want to say about eight years old.

Speaker 2 (52:16):
Yeah, do you ever think this game would take you
literally all over the world.

Speaker 7 (52:20):
No, I had no idea that this is gonna be
the opportunity I was gonna be able to get. So
it's pretty incredible to me.

Speaker 2 (52:25):
It's a great picture on X on the Bad Rooman's
basketball account. You're swimming with the Dolphins. What was that
experience like with the team. It was really really fun.
You can tell by my smile.

Speaker 7 (52:33):
It was like having the time of my life. The
dolphins are so cute and the people with the workers
were really nice, so it was really fun.

Speaker 2 (52:40):
Again, we're talking with Lena Patti Bandla. Tell me about
what this does for the team, bringing them together a
trip like this. You're still early on in the season.
What does this do for building that chemistry.

Speaker 7 (52:49):
Well, we had a lot of freshmen and then we
had a couple of transfers, so building a team chemistry still,
and obviously it's a great time to like spend time
with each other, get dinners, meals together, and obviously going
fun excursions like that.

Speaker 2 (53:02):
So it was really fun. A couple more for you,
you know, when you look at three games in three days,
this is now your second year, so you're more of
a seasoned person with this. What's the key to being successful?
Three games in three days.

Speaker 7 (53:14):
Well, there's a lot of timing and planning going into it,
so planning walkers, playing shoot arounds, playing film. It's not
really a vacation kind of trip. Everything's revolved around basketball
and it's kind of more of a business trip for ups,
so kind of like getting a better early, prioritizing sleep,
eating when you can, saying hydrae and things like that.

Speaker 2 (53:33):
So teams off to a five and one start. What's
the feeling like in the locker room? Or excited?

Speaker 7 (53:40):
We're hoping to get through more wins here on the
road and take some hardware home for the first time
for our offices back home.

Speaker 2 (53:46):
And then last one. You've been asked a lot about
the you know, first player of Indian American descent who's
power for conference. We were in Ohare. I don't know
if you noticed, there was a little girl of the
same descent. She was looking at you, and I could
just tell she was she was beaming a little bit.
What's it like for you when you have when you're
representing some of those young people.

Speaker 7 (54:03):
It's definitely a great feeling. I feel like I am
able to represent a big part of my descent, and
it's really cool to me to be someone to like
look up to, knowing that like it's possible to play
college sports, college athletics at this level. It's always been
a dream of mine. So I'm happy to be someone
that other kids can look up too too.

Speaker 2 (54:25):
There she is, Leana Paddy bandelaz Halftime rolls on here,
Wisconsin trailing San Diego State thirty five to thirty three.
We'll come back and look at team stats when we return.
This is Badge basketball from lear Field. Halftime continues, Wisconsin
trailing San Diego State thirty five to thirty three. Let's
look at the team statistics and for Wisconsin, eleven of
twenty nine from the field, that is just under thirty

(54:45):
eight percent. For the Aztecs thirteen of thirty, so that
is over forty three percent. Sconsin three of ten shooting threes,
four of nine for the as Techs that is forty
four and a half percent. Free throws of Badgers eight
of eleven seventy three percent, five of seven of the
ass Techs seventy one percent. This should bode well, though,
for Wisconsin. In the second half, Wisconsin out rebounding San

(55:05):
Diego State twenty one to twelve, including a five to
one advantage in the offensive rebounds and sixteen to eleven
in the defensive rebounds. So you keep that going in
the second half and got to think that's going to
vode well for UW. We've had four ties, seven lead
changes Ssconsin's had the lead for twelve and a half
minutes of this game, san Diego State less than five minutes,

(55:26):
but for the Badgers built up that seven point lead
there in the second quarter, and San Diego State swung
it back the other way and currently sitting with that
two point lead. Each team seven assists Wisconsin' seven turnovers,
san Diego State at just three. That's been something that
really changed as after the first quarter. Wisconsin was clean
there with the turnovers, but had about six in that
second quarter. Bench points huge advantage to the Aztecs twenty

(55:48):
three to five. Each team with one block, Wisconsin's six
fast break points the Aztecs with eleven. They have four
steals and four points off turnovers, Wisconsin just one steal,
but five points off turnovers. Wisconsin plus four points in
the paint sixteen to twelve, Wisconsin five to two advantage
in second chance points. Those are our team stats. Will
look at individual numbers when we return to San Diego State.

(56:10):
Back out on the floor doing some warm ups, they
lead thirty five to thirty three over the Badgers. At halftime.
You're listening to Cancun Challenge in Wisconsin Basketball from lear
Field halftime score, Wisconsin trailing San Diego State thirty five
to thirty three. Back in Mexico is Wisconsin's Holiday tournament
Game one against the Aztecs. Here's the individual numbers, and
go first to San Diego State and you see Jasmine

(56:31):
Green leading the team. Jaslyn averages five point two points
per game. She's at eleven points already though, in the
first half, and should she keep this up, she would
end up having a career higher career high as twenty.
But she's already eleven here through the first half, three
for three shooting threes, four of four from the field.
That other shot that she took was almost to three.
It was a foot on the line too, so she

(56:53):
has just inches away from being four of four from threes,
and hopefully she has a much cooler second half of play.
Otherwise seven points for Chefy and six points for Nat Martin.
So those are going to be your leading scorers for
San Diego State. Let's go over to Wisconsin and for
them as usual, Sarah Williams thirteen points, six of eleven

(57:13):
from the field. She is one for one shooting free throws.
She's got five rebounds, two turnovers in a block, and
no personal fouls in that first half. Now, Porter and
Halle Douglas's going to enter the second half each with
two personal fouls, so we'll keep an eye on that.
You saw that both those players, especially Porter, she was
playing some big minutes there with those two personal fouls.

(57:33):
Coach Mosley showing trust in both of those players as
you have to have in a game like this. Five
points for Halle Douglas, Lightsinger with five, Porter has four,
and three points for Carter McCrae, and three points for
Test Myers. Test Meyers though zero for two shooting those threes,
you can tell for San Diego State they are really
trying to get her off the three point line and
not let her do the damage where she shoots forty

(57:54):
nine percent coming to this game on the season. Those
are your individual stats. We'll come back, get you ready
for the second half. Wisconsin trailing San Diego State thirty
five two thirty three. This is badge of basketball from
Learfield along with our producers Dave Gasper and Shawn Preble
read Magnet filling in for John Oudius. We get ready
for half number two in the cant Coon Challenge Wisconsin

(58:16):
trailing San Diego State thirty five to thirty three. And
busy time for Dave and Shawn and Doug Russell and
Tim Scott and you guys keeping all This organizes where
SUOT Wisconsin football coming up tomorrow, trying to win the
ACTS and come Bowl eligible. Black Friday Game Wisconsin host
the Gophers. That'll of course be on WIBA in Madison

(58:36):
thirteen ten. The Flagship won a one point five and
ninety seven to three the game in Milwaukee. You've also
got Wisconsin men's hoops. They will be coming up on
Saturday at the Cole Center taking on Chicago State. Those
same station. Men's hockey on IBA thirteen ten of Madison
tomorrow and on Saturday, and women's sake out in Maine
that'll be on ten seventy. The game here in Madison

(58:59):
for Friday Saturday till So it's a whole bunch of
Badger athletics. A fun time of the year, but a
lot to keep organized. Second half's underway again, if you're
just joining us. Wisconsin the home team wearing white Aztecs
and they're black and red. And here we go for
half number two. Wisconsin's trailing by two. The Badgers with
the ball moving to our left. Lightsinger inside the paint,
gonna try and go back outside. Oh, she got stripped

(59:21):
from behind, ball loose on the floor, Williams trying to
come out with it. Sheppy wins the battle, though, and
it will be San Diego State basketball. Starters for the
Badgers in the second half, Lightsinger, Myers, McCray, Williams, and Porter.
So the usual suspects. The Lobos top of the circle
fires over in a baseball pass to the left baseline,
dry blocked away by Williams. Here's Wisconsin's Ronnie Porter with

(59:43):
a two on two. Got Myers trailing, wants a three
right side in rhythm, missed it. Rebound comes down to McCray, ripster,
everybody outside. Here's Porter. She'll try a three top of
the circle. That's too strong. McCray another huge badger rebound.
This time, she'll take it herself. Gets foutled from behind,
and she'll go the free throw line for two, and
Williams stands over it, says, let's go two huge rebounds

(01:00:05):
my McCrae and draws the foul. Well, you have heard
this coaching staff grave about Carter mccray's rebounding ability, and
statistically she's one of the best in the country, and
she showed it there. I mean, she just wins down
low two dribbles in the free throw, missed it off

(01:00:28):
the back of the iron little strong. See the second
one can go challenge for is just sixty three percent
shooting free throw, So she gets the rebounds, but she
missed him both there, so she couldn't cash in on
her good efforts. Minuted into the second half, Wisconsin still
down by two. First offensive possession for San Diego State,

(01:00:49):
Sheffy off to Via Lobos. She'll try left side, goes
back to Clark top of the circle, thought about a
three instead, wild pass corraled by Fiso left baseline, trying
to back down the strong Sarah Williams, that's tough. She'll
swat that one by Va Lobo says not here see
if Va Lobos wants to keep giving that a try.
Big Ten Defensive player of the Year last year, Sarah Williams.

(01:01:09):
You don't see many players try that one on one.
Williams says, all day. Ten seconds of the shot clock,
San Diego, stay back to work. Sheffey moves inside, almost
got it stripped away. Then she gets it off to
Via Lobos, who knifes her way through a couple of
badgers and off the glass, and it gets through thirty
seven to thirty three San Diego State ninety seconds into

(01:01:30):
the third quarter. This will be the second offensive possession
for Wisconsin. Here's Porter right at the wheel, pops it
on an over at pass to Myers, gets a screened
from McCrae. She'll give a little pick and roll into McCrae.
She'll go up strong and she fights through everybody. Got
triple team down there. Carter straight with that good strength
though the Cray now trying to go work defensively down

(01:01:52):
there in Via Lobos. She'll throw it over another whipped
out pass right corner three point try there by Martinez.
That one misses and inside is that on Clark? Yes,
it is.

Speaker 7 (01:02:05):
So.

Speaker 2 (01:02:06):
Carter McCrae is a problem for San Diego State gets
offensive rebounds, forcing fowls on the other side defensively, Hallie
Douglass comes in. We'll check out Sarah Williams. High five's
down the line for her. Two minutes into this third quarter,
Wisconsin down by two with the basketball. One of the

(01:02:26):
things about this game, and I think both teams like it.
Referees are letting them play. It's physical down there has
to be pretty obvious to get the whistle. Neither side
minds the bumping as long as it's called. Even Lee
here's Lightsinger gets a McCray screen. Now we'll go to
Douglas trying to get it inside to Carter McCrae. They
find her, she's gonna back down. Her defender tries it
up an under awkward shot, got hit. Maybe Tipps does

(01:02:49):
not go tie up and oh not a tie up.
They'll call of fowl. Both Lightsinger and McCrae say that's
not a jump ball. Coach Mosley had a good view
of it. She couldn't believe it, and your fans don't
like it. As Tech fans think it was right on
the money. It's going to be two team fowls now

(01:03:09):
on Wisconsin, and that fouls on Carter McCrae. That's her
first personal So Wisconsin down by two seven twenty four
left in the third quarter. Be a Lobo spin move
outside Fezo three point or left of the circle too
strong rebound comes down to test Meers. Scott's trying even
this thing up. Big lead fee to Halle Douglas lost
out a real estate, tries to throw it back, finds

(01:03:31):
McCrae goes back out. Douglas working that right side. Nothing
there for McCrae, so they'll swing it around to the
left side. Ronnie Porter now plenty of time in the
shot clock. She'll step in left of the circle, three
pointer halfway out. How did that ball not go in
foul on the as techs good effort by Halle Douglas
to draw the whistle. As Tex will bring a sub in.

(01:03:53):
This is on the floor, so Wisconsin will inbound it.
Natt Martinez in, Meghan Fizo will take a seat, replace
the senior with a freshman. Ssconsin keeps their same five there,
big hard screens set by McCrae. They'll call it clean.
Here's Wisconsin's Porter now trying to backdoor cut two light

(01:04:13):
singer kind of telegraphed it and stolen away. Here's the badge.
Here's San Diego State. Kazada off to v Lobos outside
the Martinez back to Sheffie swinging around the right side.
Awkward shot there for Azada. That's not the prettiest jump shot,
but it gets the job done if you're an Astacs fan.
Forty to thirty five, now five point lead for San

(01:04:34):
Diego State, six and a half to go third quarter.
Wisconsin has some empty possessions. Now they'll try and go
down low. Not a good pass by Myers, stolen away
v Lobos. She'll trickle up the floor, zig zagging away,
no look, bounce pass down low, fires it outside net,
Martinez three pointer in rhythm. Wisconsin needs to time out,
and there it is coach Mosley. Forty three to thirty five,

(01:04:55):
your San Diego State lead six fifteen left in the
third and Wi scott and needs to take a time
out and settle things down. We'll take a break too,
the can Coon Challenge Game one for Wisconsin San Diego
State with momentum right now. This is Badger basketball from
lear Field Badger fans. Today's game is brought to you
by the official products of Wisconsin Athletics Group UB lots
of mats of pizza, old Dutch chips and PEPSI read

(01:05:18):
Magnum back with you, filling in for John Audius is
down here at the can Couon Challenge Wisconsin right now
their largest deficit of the game forty three to thirty five,
trailing San Diego State six to fifteen, remaining in the
third quarter. You can tell right now for the Badgers
they are trying to get it down low. Three pointers today.
Wisconsin is three of thirteen shooting, so trying to get

(01:05:38):
it down low, but at times telegraphing and the defense
of the Aztecs reading it stealing it away. So Wisconsin
coach Mosley calling a time out in Wisconsin try and
reset things. Wisconsin outscored San Diego State in the first
quarter twenty to nineteen, or outscored in the second quarter
sixteen to thirteen, but they have been outscored eight to

(01:05:59):
two in almost four minutes of play in the third quarter.
Wisconsin as it offensively, We'll see what they do here.
Williams in the game with light singer for the Badgers.
They also have Ronnie Porter Douglas and Tess Myers. Here's
Douglas top of the key, chess bass off to Porter,
right back to Douglas, not wanting to shoot that three.
They're trying to run their offensive set and again get
it low to Williams. She's trying to battle for a

(01:06:19):
position against Kiaza. Nine seconds in the shock flock, top
of the wheel, Douglas bounce pass No see it stolen
away by Sheffie. They can't find it down low Martinez.
She's gonna work up the floor, peels back in the
right baseline, gets it back to Kazada. She'll go back
to Sheffie and they'll reset with twenty on the shock flock.

(01:06:40):
Now Kazata Jersey untucked, fires it back off to Martinez.
She'll get up in the air lightsinger and then she'll
try a little floater in the lane, hit off the
back of the rim and it falls in ten point
lead for San Diego State. Five twenty to go third Corp.
There's Ronnie Porter. She's gonna go coast to host got
it up in and thought she got fouled. Nothing there
but San Diego State back the other way. Quickly back

(01:07:03):
out to Sheffie and now Wisconsin able to set a
limb of the Manda Man defense via Lobos. Move to
the right side. Here's Martinez right elbow. Cazato wanted it,
couldn't find a tour now outside right side. Three pointer. Ooh,
that one is in for via Lobos. Forty five to
thirty seven. San Diego State leads for fifty to go.

(01:07:25):
Third quarter. Big moments of this game for Wisconsin. Astec's
feeling it. The Badger's trying to hang in there. There's
Ronnie Porter. Back to back buckets for Ronnie. That one
a step back jumper in the right elbow. Sometimes you
need Ronnie Porter to just bail you out on possessions.
That's what she does. Kazata touch off to Sheffie gets
the screen, She'll go in. Oh, got a round Porter

(01:07:47):
and that was an easy layup on the right side.
Beat Porter on the first step and one. Chefy gets
a step on you. She is tough to chase down.
Fifty to thirty nine. San Diego State eleven point advantage,
four to seventeen to war third quarter, trying to dribble
with it. Williams lost it. Green comes back the other way.
Badger turnover. Green's gonna pull up. He'll try it to
right of the pain. Coach Mosley keeps her arms folded

(01:08:09):
here if she watches her team down thirteen now four
minutes to go in the third. Big run now for
San Diego State. Ronnie Porter up the floor, off to
test Myers Hally Douglas Wisconsin working some offense here. Back
to Porter high on the right side. Now Lightsinger back
to Porter, top of the wheel. Tend to shoot. Porter

(01:08:31):
moves inside, got bumped hard, This will be no shot.
Goes into the ref who hugs her, holds her, gives
her a pat on the back, and this will be
a follow on the floor. Willy Crown will come in harder.
McCrae also will. They'll bring barnhard in and we will
have a timeout on the floor. So that's gonna be

(01:08:52):
the third personal foul on Kazata, which is not a
bad thing. Get her off to the to the bench.
Three team found in this third quarter by San Diego State.
Wisconsin with just one we'll take a break. Wisconsin down
thirteen three, forty four left in the third. This is
badge of basketball from Learfield fifty two to thirty nine.
Wisconsin trailing by thirteen, three forty four left in the

(01:09:13):
third quarter, Game one of the Holiday Tournament for the Badgers.
They came into the quarter only trailing by two. But
it has been a big advantage here to San Diego State.
In this third quarter Wisconsin, they are three of seven
from the field. The Aztecs are seven of ten, Wisconsin
zero for three, shooting three. San Diego State three of
five rebounds Wisconsin plus two there. But part of it

(01:09:35):
is San Diego State not missing a lot of shots,
so that's creating a more of a rebound chances for
the Badgers in San Diego State. Out of the time
out Wisconsin with a set play here, crawl on top
of the circle three pointer, it pops up, and then
Lily crawl off the bench. It's a big three there
for the Badgers. All right back to a ten point deficit,
three and a half left in the third cheff Ye

(01:09:56):
at the free throw line. She'll pop fifteen footer and
it does in it's around that rim a few times.
She's got the shooters roll. It'swell point leave San Diego
State Wisconsin down by twelve, three point thirteen remaining in
the third border on the right side Douglas McCrae. You've
got Krawn and Lightsinger the five and white for u

(01:10:19):
W between the circles for Porter ooh, a little excuse
me past there as Kraun wasn't looking. The Badger's able
to figure it out. Now, Douglas gonna try a three,
That one well off the right side. No, but there's
McCray grabs the rebound, goes up and another big play
there by Carter McCrae turning a really bad miss into
points off the rebound coming inside and foul on the drive.

(01:10:40):
This will be for Wisconsin, just their second team foul
on the floor. Just see who they get for this,
Lily Krawn. It's gonna be just her first. Are they
gonna call it her second thought? They announced first, Yeah,
they'll change that to first. They had two up on
the scoreboard. Krown's first to as a team. As I said,
for Wisconsin, paun Ginebon will inbound it for the Astex

(01:11:07):
and they'll set up their offense. Here's that sharpshooter Green
almost knocked away there by Crown. Good defense held on
though by San Diego State, and they go find it
back Martinez daf coourt line that time. Nights here are
gonna come in, swoop it away. She'll save it, has
to throw it. Oh goes into the bench hard awkward?
Is she slipped down off the court? Gets up? She's
all right? Back to San Diego State Green outside help

(01:11:28):
three pointer? Why left?

Speaker 1 (01:11:29):
No?

Speaker 2 (01:11:30):
And there's McCrae with the big rager rebound lightsing her
a little gimpy. She's gonna play it up the court though,
to Ronnie Porter, who finds a little room. She'll pull
it back out and lightsing her resets. Scott's down ten
to ten left in the third. Doug was gonna try
three on the left side. That one looked good out
of her hand, but missed it rebound foul. I think
that might be on Is that on McCrae or is

(01:11:53):
it on San Diego States? That's on San Diego States
Jas Green. She is incredulous, And there's Carter McCray with
bonus shots. That's five as a team called on the Aztecs.
Second on Green. She's still shaking her head. Late sub
here and Rianna Kazata will come back in and Green

(01:12:17):
will go take a breather. Kazata one of their best players.
She is playing with three personal fouls. Free throw in
for McCray. A little English there on. The body didn't
get out of the ham but accounts going back to
when Lightsinger slid over here, it's a slightly raised floor,
so there's a skirt from the media table that she

(01:12:39):
slipped on. Went down hard, awkward, but she got up.
She's all right. McCray hits both free throws ssconsin. Deficit
is eight two minutes left in the third Wisconsin bench
and the Badger fans trying to encourage the Badgers keep
on getting closer here, paun gin Ebon able to get
around Lightsinger, They'll do the switch. Hey's onta Now awkward

(01:13:02):
dribble goes back, step back, throws it up, awkward shot,
rebound comes download to San Diego State Park. Now getting
double team I Porter and McCrae. Don't foul. Do they
reach in? No, they'll say a timeout time out by
San Diego State. We're gonna keep it here. This will
just be a thirty second time out. One thirty nine
left in the third Wisconsin trailing fifty four to forty six.

(01:13:25):
Bad Your fans. Today's game brought to you by Rail
Transport offering exceptional transportation services, truck driving jobs, CDL training,
and so much more across Wisconsin. Learn more at rail
dot Jobs. Hard fought game here, both teams putting a
lot of energy into this first game. VCU defeated Providence
fifty seven to fifty one. That game was a couple
point difference right to the end and then VCU pulled

(01:13:48):
away there with some free throws. But the plan is
Wisconsin plays Providence tomorrow morning, ten o'clock. We'll have it
for you same stations, ten o'clock Central. VCU on Saturday
will be a twelve thirty tip. We'll have that game
for you. Two on ten seventy the game in Madison
and Fox Sports ninet twenty in Milwaukee. But it's part
of it where if you have an intense first game,

(01:14:08):
makes the second third game just a little tougher. Was
talking with aj Whiteeat, who's the person in charge of
getting this team athletics strength training recovery, and was talking
to yesterday and she said, so much these tournaments, which
team recovers better, That's so often the case, and when
both teams have a tough, hard fought matchup. You may
see it in games two and especially Game three, but

(01:14:31):
these are highly trained athletes. One thirty three left in
the third, Wisconsin down by eight, playing defense, Martinez goes
in on Douglas, get that slotted away. Oh, they'll call
a followl on either McCray or Douglas. Great thoughts, she
had that clean. Is that on Douglas or do they
get McCray for it. It's gonna be on McCrae. So
two personally, and this will be free throws for Martinez.

(01:14:58):
Ssconsin at three t fowls down by eight, but two
free throws from Martinez, free throw up and in second
free throw for Martinez. Williams comes up to the scores
table for Wisconsin. Second free throw hit a bowl that'll

(01:15:20):
allow Williams to come in on the make, taking out
Carter McCrae. Nope, Cardi mccraig gonna stay in. They'll take
out Hallie Douglas. She was gonna imbound it, so they'll
have to go replace her with McCrae, and Douglas will
go take a seat. Both these teams in the first
half did a little full court pressure. I think these

(01:15:41):
coaches realizing with as tense as this game is in
three games in three days, they've called them off on
both sides of the full court press one eighteen left
in the third, Wisconsin down by ten. Here comes Ronnie
Porter around the baseline. Now comes back up and under
traveled with it. Drag that pivot foot. Ronnie frustrated, is
the ball on the floor a little hard? And toss

(01:16:02):
it back to the ref. Both teams have been good
coming into today, limiting the turnovers. Wisconsin though up to
fourteen turnovers. San Diego State much cleaner at only five.
The Aztecs foce opponents twenty turnovers per game on average,
and unfortunately that's the direction Wisconsin's trending. Twelve seconds in

(01:16:24):
the shot clock for the ass TECs up by ten
to fifty seconds left in quarter number three. Here's Clark
back outside to Quezada. She'll try along two with four
seconds in the shot clock, and unfortunately she hits it.
Twelve point lead here for San Diego State. Ben a
heck of a third quarter for them, outscoring Wisconsin twenty
three to thirteen. Here's Sarah Williams try and answer outside

(01:16:45):
Ronnie Porter, wide open three point or right corner airball died,
tie up and this will go to the as text
there were two as techs and Carter McCrae somehow came
down and drew the jump ball. It doesn't stay with
the Wisconsin, but we'll switch that possession. Shonnarrow at least
Badgers need to stop here though, down by twelve twenty

(01:17:06):
eight seconds left in the third shot clock turned off,
so it'll give San Diego State a chance to play
for the final shot of this third quarter. Pong Ginebon
gonna rock the dribble back and forth. Lights here, Gonna
give her some space down to fifteen seconds. They start
to move now in front of her. Twelve seconds. Pong

(01:17:27):
Ganebon gives it off to Kazata, back out to pod Ganebon.
Eight seconds, she's outside left of his circle. Five seconds.
A lot of dribbling here. She'll drive in the baseline
all court, fade away shot too strong, rebound comes down
to Carter McCrae to quorter. No chance to get a
shot off, and good defense by Wisconsin to end quarter
number three. But they get out scored by ten in

(01:17:47):
the third and they trail by twelve. As we get
ready for the fourth, we'll be back to the Cancun
Challenge after this. You're listening to Badger basketball from lear Field.
It's just about ready for the fourth quarter. Wisconsin trailing
in San Diego State fifth forty six. Let's get to
our ATC Smart play of the game ATC energizing your
Future with Smart Careers, Bandal outside for Meyers four inside,

(01:18:10):
they're gonna go to Williams two issue. She's gonna have
the force to turn around. Hits he hits it. Sarah
Williams with the shot clock expiring, gets the Badgers up
to thirty points ATC Smart Player of the Game ATC
Energizing your Future with Smart Careers. We're gonna need more
Sarah Williams here in this fourth quarter, quiet third quarter
for her. She sits at thirteen points on the game.

(01:18:31):
Wisconsin's gotten nine from McCrae, eight for Porter, everyone else
five or fewer. Wisconsin has gotten quite a few players
in the scoring column, but they trailed by twelve with
ten minutes up on the board in this fourth quarter
Game one of the Cancun Challenge for Wisconsin Providence tomorrow
VCU on Saturday down here at the hard Rock Hotel
Rivier Amaya. For Wisconsin, such a key here to have

(01:18:54):
a solid fourth quarter not just to win this game,
but get momentum going into those final two games. They
were only down by two points as we went into
the second half, but got outscored by ten points in
that third quarter. Here's Lightsinger for Wisconsin. Gets to McCrae screen,
goes off to that restricted area. Art flips it off
off the right block, and it is in all right,

(01:19:14):
down to ten the deficit for Wisconsin. Here's the first
offensive possession for San Diego State. Quon Ganeebon to Clark
help the transfer from Mercer off to Pon Ganeebon. We're
going to try and get it down load nothing there,
and now she'll step inside the circle, high arching shot.
Missed it. I'll tap back out to her though, she'll

(01:19:35):
drive right. Matt goes outside Martinez three pointer. That one misses.
Who gets the rebound? It's the Badgers. Get a basket,
get a stop. See if Wisconsin get another one on
the board. Order now to Lightsinger, Williams giving her a screen. Lightsinger,
the Wisconsin native looking around. Nothing there. Bounce basket, download Williams.
She'll get double team right back to Lightsinger. She'll go

(01:19:57):
up got ould two freight throws upcoming for Natalie Lightsinger.
This is good offense for Wisconsin. Didn't tell the San
Diego State game plan this fourth quarter. They're not gonna
let Sarah Williams beat them, so they're double even triple
teaming here as soon as she gets the ball. But
this is the difference for San Diego State. They just

(01:20:17):
brought in fource ups. Wisconsin brings in Lily Crawn. But
these Badgers are having to play a lot more minutes
than San Diego State. Is free throws for Lightsinger, and
she's got the first. Now a nine point deficit. Second

(01:20:38):
free throw for Lightsinger. Got some tape on that left hand,
she'll shoot with it and gets it to go all right.
Eight point lead for San Diego State. Minute eight into
the fourth quarter. Get another stop here for the Badgers.
Be a Lobos to Hamilton left of the circle. Pops
it back out to Green looking for a cutter there.
Nothing for Green. Now she'll find Cheffy Up he comes

(01:21:00):
inside the circle. Got bump nothing called backdoor pass stolen
away by the Badgers. Lily Kron bounced off for me.
McCray picks it up right back up to Crown. Now
sconsin ninety seconds into the fourth ben good start here there,
Sarah Williams off the block down. Coach stands up for
San Diego State. Coach Terry Hudson not gonna take a
time out. Wisconsin down to a six point deficit, eight

(01:21:22):
to sixteen left in the fourth. Couldn't be a better
start for Wisconsin. Green now is gonna drive against the Badger,
throws it out, knocked away by Lightsinger. Defense here Bory
Wisconsin digging deep, playing hard, defensively in creative offense. Fifteen
will be on the shot lock for San Diego State.

(01:21:43):
They'll inbound left to their basket into Green. Mcraig giving
her space. Sizo down low. Here's Vio Lobos goes over,
blocked away by Williams. A second block by Williams oh
Porter got her pocket thick players sprawling to the floor.
Green now tries an Astec's left corner, three missed it.
Lightsinger draws the follel on an over the back call
for the rebound. All Wisconsin here to start off this

(01:22:05):
fourth quarter. They trail by six, seven fifty three remaining.
Gotta get the big mop out, wipe off multiple spots
in the floor, players flying all over Sisconsin needs a
player to get the inbounds. Krawn'll come back. It's got
Krawn and Porter and then McCrae, Lightsinger and Williams. Both

(01:22:28):
sides breathing heavy here. Wisconsin down fifty eight to fifty two,
seven point fifty remaining in the fourth. Ronnie Porter down
for Wisconsin. Porter off on the right side. Now she'll
move to the left side looking for players in front.
Ronnie calm Lee flyers it over at the right hand
to light Singer. Light Singer top of the circle. Get

(01:22:49):
a bounce baster Lily Krawn at the free throw line
in rhythm. Shot gives the shooters roll Lily Krawn not
a prairie to sheet Wisconsin. San Diego State have seen
Hi up. They're gonna take a time out. Wisconsin. They
are within four, seven thirty remaining in the fourth. We'll
take a time out too. This is Badger basketball from
lear Field. Seven and a half left in the fourth. Wisconsin.

(01:23:10):
They were down by twelve as we came into the fourth,
but an eight to zero run to start things off
in the first two and a half minutes of this
quarters got them within four. Badgers trailing fifty eight to
two fifty four. Welcome back, to the Cancun challenge down
here in Mexico. For Wisconsin, this is a game where
you don't have the depth in terms of your bench
that San Diego State has. San Diego State being able

(01:23:31):
to get a lot more players involved. But for Wisconsin,
the players they are going to fighting hard. And you
could tell coming into that fourth Coach Mosley with a
message of we've got to start off fast here because
San Diego State they were cruising in that third quarter,
outscored the Badgers by ten, but a plus eight here
to start things off in the fourth Sisconsin is right
back in this thing. Points in the paint. Wisconsin twenty

(01:23:52):
six points, san Diego State's eighteen. And for Wisconsin right
now they're being outscored on the bench, but hw just
finding ways to get stops defensively and give yourself a
chance offensively. Second whistle here that we'll get Wisconsin off

(01:24:16):
of their bench, all right. The Badger settle in defensively,
Porter Lightsinger, McCray, Williams and Crawn to five and white.
San Diego State will move to our right. Four point
deficit for the Badgers, seven and a half to go
in the fourth. Number four Sheffey with the basketball, works

(01:24:37):
it up the floor. It's a fiso on the right side,
top of the wheel. Here's Green moves it off to
the left side again to Sheffy left free throw line extended.
Now she'll drive gets around Porter. Oh, awkward shot. That's
got to be an offensive fool. Yes it is. Lightsinger
saw her flying in there, stepped in front, took another charge,
turn over San Diego State back to Wisconsin, and if

(01:24:58):
they score here, they will be ten or eleven oh
run to start off the fourth. Nobody's back there to
inbounds here, I'll bring McCray back. Hamilton will go off
San Diego State and they will bring back in Kazada.
All right. Wisconsin down by four seven o eight to

(01:25:20):
go in the fourth. Eight oh run to start off
the fourth quarter. We'll see what they can do on
this possession. Ronnie Porter on the right side. William's gonna
give her a screen. She'll take that, hits around her
inside the circle. Perfect Swiss straight music for Ronnie Porter,
and that is a ten to oh run to start
the fourth Wisconsin within two. Be a Lobos right at

(01:25:43):
the circle, pass it off to fiso, fiso top of
the circle, back out to Kuizada out of Green. She's
gonna drive on light Singer. Oh almost double team, now
triple teams outside Kaizada. Three pointer, two strong, oh long
rebound comes down to be a Lobos. It's tough when
you get those long missus. Carum's back usually advantage offense

(01:26:04):
resets the shot clock. Now Sheffey, she'll do it behind
the back, dribble, goes into the circle, gets a round Porter,
they'll do the switch. Seven seconds in the shot clock Green,
she's a sharpshooter. Look out, Sheffy. Three seconds she's gonna
have to force it up there, fade away and that
one grays in the front of the rim. No ball
goes out of the ounds. It will come to Wisconsin
and the run continues. The Badger bench standing up here

(01:26:26):
excited as Wisconsin within two you could tie or take
the lead. With six oh eight per mating in the fourth.
That third quarter was pretty much all San Diego State.
This fourth quarter has been all Wisconsin. Ronnie Porter on
the right side, Lely Crawn gets the streets. You's gonna
try a three.

Speaker 3 (01:26:44):
She's confident in its one goes home, big light kick.
My coach Mosley, Wisconsin has taken the lead.

Speaker 2 (01:26:54):
Fifty nine to fifty eight. Wisconsin comes all the way
back at a twelve point deficit, ending the third corps
or five forty to go. Wisconsin up fifty nine fifty eight.

Speaker 3 (01:27:03):
Turn around me a Lobos walked away by Williams, grabbed
by Crowning a final on the asdacs.

Speaker 2 (01:27:09):
It's all going Wisconsin's way and charge as they say,
it's not how you start, it's how you finished. Still
a long way to go here, but Wisconsin showing a
lot of heart. Carter McCrae after Ronnie Porter, fifty nine

(01:27:29):
to fifty eight, they lead, five and a half to go.
Porter on the left side, crazy, gonna offer a screen,
Ronnie will not take it off the light singer Now
lightsinger moves right of the circle. She'll drive in that
right baseline. Not thing there, Ronnie Porter back out right
of the circle to Carter McCrae, thinking about three instead
Williams tall three seconds in the lane. All right, go

(01:27:53):
back to San Diego State first. Really mistake of this
fourth quarter on Wisconsin. The other thing in NOTTUS two
is fourteen fouls for San Diego State Wisconsin. The bonus
rest away the Badgers have not committed a foul in
this fourth quarter, so also big advantage there. Now Kazata
goa mc cray in the air. She'll drive, Oh, so,

(01:28:14):
how many steps blocked the way? Anyway, Sarah Williams, here
are the Badgers. Lightsinger fired up at the porter, Williams
showing hands in the lane. Nothing there, Sconson'll reset things.
Ronnie Porter call m it down four forty six to go,
Wisconsin up by one. Ronnie Porter letting coach Mosley direct things. Lightsinger,
Oh almost stolen away, thought she got hit. Referees to

(01:28:35):
let him play Lightsinger nine seconds in the shock clock
now discombobulated offensive set Ronnie Porter in the circle, fires
it over to Williams. She'll turn around off the glass.
End there. Sarah Williams give to Wisconsin a three point lead,
sixty one to fifty eight for twenty two to go.
Tom of the circle via Lobos. San Diego State struggling

(01:28:57):
mightily offensively turnaround, Cheffy happily down that one pops out. Incredible.
San Diego State has not scored in this fourth quarter.
Wisconsin has scored fifteen points. Four minutes to go, Wisconsin
up by three. Ronnie Porter now rocking the dribble, taking
time off the clock. Here it's only a three point lead,

(01:29:18):
but I think for the Badgers, just trying to regain themselves. Now,
Porter almost lost the dribble, goes off the Lightsinger trying
to get Williams down low McCrae left of the circle.
Four seconds in the shot clock turn around there.

Speaker 3 (01:29:28):
Sarah Williams gets another one seventeen zero run in the court.

Speaker 2 (01:29:32):
For Wisconsin, they lead sixty three to fifty eight with
three point thirty six left in the fourth. My goodness,
Kazata inside the circle. Fie Lobos takes a shot not
even close off the left. Oh couldn't grab the miss
though Sheffy twelve seconds in the shot clock that did
not hit rim so shot clock did not reset. Eight

(01:29:53):
seconds in the shot clock. Sheffy goes up and that
finally takes the seal off the lid. For San Diego State,
Scotson up by three. Three ten left in the fourth,
Ronnie Porter, moving into the fore court, hands it off
to Natalie Leisinger. Three minutes to go. Carter McCrae right

(01:30:13):
of the circle. Sconson looking for Williams down low, but
she's staying up towards the three point line and bumped off, oh,
off the knee of the Badgers coach Moseley that was
right in front of her, and she said, no, wait,
did they call an offensive fowl? They did? They called

(01:30:35):
an offensive fowl on Carter McCrae. Lily crown out. McCrae
stays in. Coach Mosey was right there, and she she
was adamant McCrae. That's her third personal two forty eight
to go with sconsin up sixty three to sixty got
to really settling on defense. Now there's chef, he gets around, Porter,

(01:30:58):
goes outside left side Martinez three. That one all it hit,
hit backboard, rim, backboard and falls. We are square at
sixty three. All two and a half to go. See
what Wisconsin wants to do here in terms of continuing
to play on, or is coach Mosey gonna give them

(01:31:18):
a break on a timeout at some point they'll play on.
There's Cardia McCrae inside the circle, high arching shot, missed it,
Clark grabs the rebound. All right, lookout, Now three on
two for the Aztecs. Come up to Martinez. She'll try
a three, same spot. Oh, same result, back to back
trickles for Martinez sixty six sixty three. San Diego stayed
a little run now and we'll have a timeout called

(01:31:41):
and this will be to Wisconsin. They want a thirty
or a sixty. Coach Mosey says, give me a thirty
two oh three to go. We'll keep it here. Basketball
is a funny game, isn't it. Wisconsin on a seventeen
to oh run to start off the fourth and now
a five zero run for San Diego State sixty six

(01:32:02):
to sixty three. The score right now, advantage azz Dex
two oh three to go Wisconsin. They're in the bonus
the rest of the way. They've only committed one team foul,
so big advantage in that spot. Each team has two
timeouts remaining. Coach Mosey saying to Halle Douglas, you gotta
get in, and they'll say, no, did not get in
in time. Also they will say Lily Krawn did not

(01:32:25):
get up to the scores table in time. So Coach
Mosey want to get those two players in. They did
not get up before the horn, and so the score
ref says no. Other ref also says no. So Wisconsin
did not get those subs in this horn will be
to clear the benches. Both signs will do that, so

(01:32:45):
the Badgers will have light Singer, Porter, McCrae, Williams, and
Myers on the floor. They were able to get test
Myers in and Crawn and Douglas have to be at
the scores table and wait. Sconsin now by three two
minutes remaining in the fourth Aztec fans shouting defense Lightsinger

(01:33:09):
left of the circle still has her dribble. Now she'll
work with it. Top of the wheel, there is Ronnie Porter.
She'll move right of the circle, tend to shoot. Ronnie
Porter flips over the top of everyone little flat missed it.
Rebound Martinez San Diego stay with a three point lead
the basketball Ronnie Porter trying to guide her up the floor.
One thirty five remaining chef Y top of the circle

(01:33:32):
plays it off left side, almost stolen away. Fezo sticks
with it though, twelve to shoot for the Astecs. There's Martinez.
Now the three pointer got fouled. Missed it, but she
has three free throws upcoming. Boy that nat Martinez real problem.
Hit those two threes to get the run going and
then gets fouled shooting the three just he'll bring in

(01:33:53):
those two Badger subs. Myers and McCrae will go off.
And that was called on Lightsinger, her second personal second
as a team. But unfortunately it is three free throws
for the very good free throw shooter Matt Martinez. Sixty
six to sixty three. Right now is the Badger deficit.

(01:34:13):
Three free throws though for Martinez. First one up and
it is a miss. All right, wipes the pant legs off,
gets back to the free throw line, pressure free throws,
second of three. That one does hit, one for two.

(01:34:35):
She has the third one twenty remaining, Wisconsin down by four.
Here's the San Diego State free throw and she hits
that one, so two for three. The deficit five Wisconsin
one twenty to work with each team, two timeouts. Ronnie
Porter to the four court. Gotta work kind of quickly here,
but still time. Porter on the right side. Spin move

(01:34:57):
goes towards the baseline. Defense all over her though, and
she now they'll go inside. There's Sarah Williams trying to
go cross court. Nothing there. Williams a little fade away
in the lane, missed it too strong, ball goes down
rebound San Diego State. One minute remaining, Wisconsin down by five.
Porter thinking about fouling here, Sheffy moves in the four
court Porter getting right up on her. They're not calling
the foul. Play on here. Sheffey now into the free

(01:35:19):
throw line, back outside de Fiso and I think Wisconsin's
gonna let this thing have to play on now forty
three seconds to go down by five. Didn't get a
foul early, so you had a foul to give. We'll
play on here. Five seconds to shoot. Here's Sheffy thirty
three seconds in the game. Sheffy step back off the glass.
No big rebound. Sarah Williams. See if the Badgers take

(01:35:40):
a time out here and they will twenty seven point
six to go Wisconsin down by five with the basketball
called the timeout, Coach Mosey asking for something from the referee.
I think this might be a full timeout. We'll watch
the referee. Yes, it was thirty second actually thirty second timeouts.

(01:36:03):
What they'll take? What a game one? Wow, Providence tomorrow,
v see you on Saturday, Providence tomorrow. By the way,
that's a ten o'clock start, so we'll do a nine
to forty Central Time pregame ten to forty Eastern time
is where we're at down here in Mexico. Sconsin outscored

(01:36:25):
by ten and the third started the fourth quarter on
a seventeen to oh run. But since then San Diego
State has scored ten points. So that is your five
point lead for the Aztecs, sixty eight to sixty three
day lead, twenty seven point six remaining. Wisconsin with the
basketball Ssconsin will have one timeout remaining San Diego State

(01:36:50):
with two. As we've said, the Badgers are in the
bonus Wisconsin only two team fouls here, so after this
possession they will have fouls to give. Hallie Douglas in
the game with Ronnie Porter, Lightsinger, Crawn and Williams. Porter
comes up the floor. I gotta be fast here. Douglas
hands it back to Porter. She's gonna drive, goes up foul,

(01:37:12):
missed it. Oh, that'd have been big head. She hit it.
Missed it though, she'll have two free throws. Shot so
Veronica Sheffey, where's number four? She has four personal fouls
Sconsin and the bonus here that was on the shot. Anyway,
we'll see if Sheffie stays in with those four. Looks

(01:37:32):
like she is going to unless they get a sub
up there. This is two free throws for Ronnie Porter
and you gotta have them both. First free throw for
Ronnie Porter up and missed it too strong, all right.
She whips the ball back to the ref frustrated and
it's still a five point deficit. That would have gotten
it to a one possession game. Here's the second for

(01:37:55):
Porter up and she hits that one time out San
Diego eight. They'll have one remaining, sixty eight to sixty four.
The Aztecs lead twenty point seven left in the fourth.
Ronnie eight seventy five percent free throw shooter, but just
one for two and that's five. Skankuon Challenge has been

(01:38:21):
good to Wisconsin in the past. Go back to twenty thirteen.
The Wisconsin men won the can Coon Challenge men's tournament
happening earlier this week, ended it yesterday with their championship games. Technically,
on the women's side, they don't crown a champion because
it's round robin. You know who you're gonna play, but
the teams are keeping track of who wins what games,

(01:38:41):
and ultimately is certainly you know who the winner was
of the Challenge, especially on this bracket where you play
three games in three days, twenty points seven remaining. Wisconsin
is down by four. It is San Diego State basketball.
After the one for two free throws by Ronnie Porter,
sconsin only two team fouls, so they've got three to give.

(01:39:03):
But if you get steal an inbounds, make a little
magic happen. Fiso throws in the back court. There chefy
foul right away. Mens Good took less than a second
off the clock. Nineteen point eight and that's Wisconsin's thirteen foul.
So again, more fouls to give, but you try to
get the steal if you can. But they're gonna leak
a player in the back court and that's tough to defend.

(01:39:27):
That foul was in the back court. So they're gonna
move the inbounds to the back court. See if they
will let Carter McCrae sub in. They will allow it.
Williams will come out. San Diego State will not counter.
So Jimenez on the floor. She's the one who's quickest,
so she's the one who had the last foul. Boy

(01:39:49):
first few options aren't there. They do get it in.
Kazata draws a foul. Here's there to take your pick.
Eighteen point seven, remaining Wisconsin down by four, though, and
then as that's her third personal four as a team,
this one will be bona shots Clark in, boy, gotta
get a little quicker whistle there, Pray was all over her.

(01:40:12):
And that's your fifth, and we'll have free throws for Calli.
Clark doesn't shoot a lot of free throws coming into today.
Clark seven of ten from the free throw line on
the game today. These are her first free throws. Seventeen
point four, remaining Wisconsin down by four, but two free

(01:40:33):
throws for San Diego State. First one does hit, so
it is a five point deficit and it could be
six either way. It's two possession game. Seventeen point four.
Wisconsin will have one time out remaining second free throws.
She had a bowl and coach Mosley will use her
last time out. So seventeen point four remaining Wisconsin down

(01:40:58):
seventy to sixty five and the Badgers are out of timeouts,
so draw up a quick three. You would think that
would be test Myers, but obviously San Diego State, I'm
sure all over that. Lily Krown comes in. Krawan has
been good shooting in the second half two for two
shooting threes. So I think Krawn or potentially Test Myers

(01:41:23):
now Myers in the game, she's zero for three shooting threes.
Threes have been tough for most players. Lights here one
for one, but Porter's one for five. Hallie Douglass is
one for five. So it's gonna probably be Test Myers
or Lily Krawn to get a three. Then you're gonna
have to get a quick whistle, hope they miss free throws,

(01:41:44):
and try and send this thing into overtime with a
three point shot. I think that's how it have to
play out, and only seventeen point four seconds coming up.
During our post game, will hopefully get a chance to
talk with an assistant coach, give you team stats, individual numbers.
Of course, get ready for game two tomorrow. It is

(01:42:05):
a quick turnaround for both teams, all right. So Wisconsin,
you do have Lily Krawn, but you do not have
Test Meyers in the game. So here's Hally Douglas seventeen
point four, left down by six. Douglas off to Krown.
She's gonna shoot a three hand in her face. Oh

(01:42:26):
she swishes it. Oh, Lily Krawn, this is interesting. Hits
the three. We're within three eleven point nine to go.
That was a handoff hand in her face, throw it
out Lily Kron and she swished it nothing but the
bottom of the net for number four, and don't go anywhere.
This is a three point game. Timeout was taken by

(01:42:50):
San Diego State. They are out of timeouts, so we
know we'll play the last eleven point nine all the
way through. Neither team with a timeout. Both teams are
in the bonus, so they'll draw their inbounds up and
it's gonna come down to can you get San Diego
States and missed a couple free throws? Hey, well, of course,
have their best free throw shooters in and plays drawn

(01:43:12):
up to get it to them. Coach Mosley sitting on
the white chair, got our white clipboard out, black long
sleeve shirt with the red W drawing on the clipboard.
Got players all crowded around here. It's a little interesting
here in cant Cohn. Weather's been gorgeous, you know, mid eighties,
but it's cold in the gym, so everybody's bundled up

(01:43:34):
in the gym for the Cancun Challenge. It's a little oxymeeronic,
but no complaints better for the players than being too hot.
With the three games in three days. Second Horn coach
Mo per usual, using every bit of her timeout she
can and they'll break this down. Get the chairs off
the floor. So eleven point nine left in regulation, Wisconsin

(01:43:56):
down seventy to sixty seven. San Diego State Ball. They're
gonna try and inbound either get a steal if not,
got to get a foul and hope for missed free
throws FISO first two options not there. They get it in.
Shoot at Martinez. Boy, she's a good free throw shooter,
and she will go to the free throw line. She'll
have two, eleven point one on the clock. Lightsinger picked

(01:44:20):
up her third again, bonus the rest of the way
for both teams. Martinez with two free throws. First one
is a miss, all right, you need here to miss
a second one. Martinez on the game, seven of nine
shooting these free throws. Can she miss another one? There
are no astecs down to get a rebound, so it's

(01:44:42):
just Martinez second one. She got that one, four point lead,
eleven point one to go. Bring in Tess Meyers, a
sharp shooter. Douglas goes out eleven point one you're down
by force. It is a two possession game unless he
could get a three and a foul. Here comes Ronnie Porter,
tense that guess Scoontson down by four. Porter, top of
the circle, hands off. Lily Crown got that one block

(01:45:04):
that the three point aren't goes to Sheffe She'll come
up the floor three seconds reach in foul and that's
just about we're gonna do it. Light Singer commits her
fourth personal four point lead with two point three to
go in more free throws coming up here for San
Diego State. Gallion effort by Wisconsin came out in this
fourth quarter after being outscored by ten and it was
a twelve point deficit ending the third. They came out

(01:45:26):
and outscored San Diego State on a seventeen to zero
run in the fourth, but then it was a lot
of San Diego State and since then they have been
on a thirteen to four run, maybe a fourteen to
four run. So this fourth quarter, two big swings. It
started off for Wisconsin. They got the lead, swung back
the other way to San Diego State. Made both free throws,

(01:45:46):
so six point lead, two point three to go. Ronnie
Porter gonna let this one dribble in front of her,
She'll take that. She's gonna throw it up and that
will do it. Shot missus. Final score San Diego State
seventy three, Wisconsin sixty seven. We'll take a commercial break
up to talk with assistant coach Jamie Glusing for the

(01:46:08):
post game game one of the Gantcun Challenge. Wisconsin falls
to San Diego State. Postgame show coming up. This is
Wisconsin basketball from Learfield postgame show. Wisconsin falls to San
Diego State seventy three to sixty seven. We do have
the head coach of the Badgers, MRSA. Mosley, looking over
that stat sheet coaching a game like this. You've got
runs by both teams. Your team started off a seventeen

(01:46:28):
to oh run in the fourth and then it was
a lot of San Diego State for the rest of
the game. In a tight game like this, what do
you makes the difference in a contest like this?

Speaker 6 (01:46:37):
I would say shot selection and executing. And you know,
we took some some poor We had.

Speaker 4 (01:46:43):
A couple really critical poor decisions there at the end
and some questionable calls, but we put ourselves in that
position and you know, credit to you know, Sandego State.
They made a couple of big threes and you know,
critical times for them, but.

Speaker 6 (01:47:06):
You know, we battled back. But I don't think that
the game maybe necessarily be like that.

Speaker 2 (01:47:13):
Carda McCrae really showed what she is all about. I mean,
seven rebounds, nine points. But when she does what she
does just as a sophomore, physically, she's one of the
more impressive sophomores. I think you could see physically what
about her game stands out.

Speaker 4 (01:47:27):
Yeah, I mean Carter, you know, I challenged our players
when we were down I think it was twelve, you know,
like we've.

Speaker 6 (01:47:35):
Got to be able to battle like this is uh oh,
I guess it was thirteen. They're on the third and
I'm like that, you know, we got to make a decision.
There's a gut chet time. And I feel like she
really took out to her and our team really fed
off of that. And I mean that's an exciting prospect
to see that she has so much.

Speaker 4 (01:47:54):
You know, growth and learning ahead of her, but really really.

Speaker 6 (01:47:57):
Proud of her efforts.

Speaker 2 (01:47:58):
And I yeah, we're talking head coach of Badgers Ris
and Mosley, So coach, you have this hard fought, intense
back and forth. You're back on this court in less
than twenty four hours, So how do you get the
team to process, learn, but then get ready for a
Providence team that showed in Game one they're a very
game opponent too.

Speaker 4 (01:48:16):
Yeah, I mean, I think, you know, it's like you
got to be able to flip the page pretty quickly.
We got to be able to walk into personnel and
know what it is that we're trying to do, you know,
And we gave number eleven, came off the bench and
we talked about that she's a three point shooter, and
I think.

Speaker 6 (01:48:34):
That really kind of gave them a lot of energy
early on, and she hit three big freeze. I don't
know what she ended up with at the end, ah three.
So that's those are critical shots though at like a
time where the momentum kind of swung.

Speaker 4 (01:48:47):
So I think, you know, obviously changing the page to Providence,
they've got less than a day to get ready for us.
We have less than a day to you're ready for them,
But we've got to just make sure that we're you know,
bouncing back.

Speaker 6 (01:48:58):
When you can come down here to move games. So
we've got to make sure that we would come in
with an expectation to.

Speaker 2 (01:49:03):
Win, and coach will let you go on this one.
If you had to go to your bench toly Krown
comes in, hit a couple of big threes, Patty Vandala
came in and gave you some hard flot minutes. So
as you're looking at that bench, what does that do
for those players getting some confidence going into these next
two games?

Speaker 4 (01:49:15):
Yeah, Lily was huge, maybe some huge shots and big moments,
and really proud of you know her coming in, stepping
in and really answering the call.

Speaker 6 (01:49:26):
You know, I mean four for five, three, four from.

Speaker 4 (01:49:28):
Three and you know, in just thirteen minutes, eleven points
and they were critical points, and so I probably need
to try to get.

Speaker 6 (01:49:34):
Her one more shot. I was trying there at the end.

Speaker 4 (01:49:37):
Could probably diagram something a little bit better at the
eleven seconds. So obviously I'll go back and think about that.
But yeah, I think, you know, the non conferences for
us to continue to grow and learn, and you know,
we got to be able to take care of business.

Speaker 6 (01:49:53):
And now let's start turn the page.

Speaker 2 (01:49:55):
Coach takes for the time. Thanks you head coach. The Bandgers,
mrsu Mosleygue and the Badgers fall seventy three two sixty seven.
I always appreciate coach Mosley coming over. It's it's not
easy to see some of the sweat on our brow
as she's coaching hard and the hard fought game. And
to come right off the final whistle and come right
over the scores table, it's not easy to do. But
we certainly appreciate her giving us her thoughts on a

(01:50:18):
game that's game of runs. Wisconsin, they were right there
at halftime, down by just two. A third quarter was
mostly San Diego State. Fourth quarter again a seventeen to
zero run for Wisconsin to start off, but then in
the rest of the fourth it was a lot of
San Diego State. You can tell with this this team,
this program, they're close and they show those signs of it.
But finishing is something that coach Mosley said, we got

(01:50:40):
to keep learning how to do and sconsin and able
to do that today. But you get two more games
before you head back, and Wisconsin a chance to take
advantage of those opportunities. Well, take another break, we'll dive
into more of these statistics. You heard coach Mosey go
through a few of those. We'll go through all of them.
We'll also have some highlights, look at some other Big
Ten games and get you ready for tomorrow again. The
Badgers falling Game one of the Cancun Challenge seventy three

(01:51:02):
to sixty seven against San Diego State just is Badger
basketball from Learfield. One does not go the way of
the Badgers. They fall to San Diego State seventy three
to sixty seven. Let's take a look at these team
numbers and for Wisconsin they shoot twenty four of fifty four,
san Diego State twenty five of fifty nine, so Wisconsin
forty four point four percent. San Diego State forty two

(01:51:24):
zero point four percent. Those three point are San Diego
State nine and nineteen, but it felt like some of
those they were just big moments, especially Nat Martinez there
at the end, able to get a little bit of
a cushion. Wisconsin finishes six of twenty one, so they
are under twenty nine percent for the game. San Diego
State forty seven percent. Free throw is a category where
you know, Wisconsin, they missed six free throws and that

(01:51:45):
was the difference in the game. You lost by six
and you went thirteen of nineteen. San Diego State still
touch better at fourteen of eighteen, but San Diego State
seventy eight percent of the game. Wisconsin's a better team
than sixty eight and a half percent. I know that's
one of the things that's hard on the coaching staffs.
They practice rethrows every single day. There's such a focus
on it, and in those moments, though, you hit thirteen,

(01:52:06):
but you missed those six, and you know that that
can make such a difference. Rebounds Wisconsin thirty seven, San
Diego State twenty five, Wisconsin ten to seven in the
offensive rebound advantage, defensive rebounds Wisconsin twenty seven the San
Diego State's eighteen. It's back and forth game through a
lot of it. We had five ties, we had nine
lead changes. San Diego State led for twenty one minutes,
Wisconsin almost sixteen minutes. But just those crazy runs that

(01:52:28):
we had in the second half, both sides were just
giving and taking and struggling and then all of a
sudden finding everything and unfortunately the momentum was to San
Diego State in those last few minutes of this game.
The Badgers did have sixteen turnovers, san Diego State with
only seven. We said in the pregame that may be
a big part of the way this story goes say
is a turnover battle, and again that was unfortunately a

(01:52:51):
big part of it. Sconsin had sixteen bench points. Just
to show you the depth of San Diego State, they
had forty six bench points. On three points, they had
forty six bench points, So it's a it's a different
type of team than you usually face. Six blocks for Wisconsin,
two for San Diego State. Wisconsin had eight fast break points.
The SX had nineteen. They had ten steals. Wisconsin only

(01:53:14):
had four, so points off turnover. San Diego State was
plus seven there two. Sconson did well in the paint
thirty points in the paint, san Diego State only twenty,
and Wisconsin nine second chance points to the as TECs eight.
So a lot of those numbers are very even, But
the turnovers and the free throws are two areas that
you look at individually quickly. Here for San Diego State

(01:53:34):
twenty two points high Martinez neat Martinez. Those twenty two points,
eight to ten shooting free throws, four of six shooting threes.
Two of those late were killers. Fifteen points for Chefy
and Green had thirteen. Only two points in the second half,
but that first half was big Sarah Williams for Wisconsin
finishes with a double double nineteen points, eleven rebounds, twenty

(01:53:56):
seventh double double of her career. Ronnie Porter gets eleven points,
but just one of six shooting threes and four of
thirteenth from the field, So kind of a tough day
shooting for Ronnie Porter. Eleven points for Lily Crown, three
or four shooting threes, gets more of that in games
two and three for this weekend. Nine points for Carter McCrae,
five points for Hallie Douglas. And I think I said

(01:54:18):
Natalie Lightsinger with nine points, I want to forget about
Nat test Myers with just three points. Kind of an
off date as well for test Meyers going zero for
three shooting those threes. Those are individual numbers. We'll take
a break, we'll give you the highlights, look at some
other big ten scores, and Wisconsin right back out on
this court early tomorrow, so we'll break that all down
for you when you return again. The Badgers fall seventy

(01:54:40):
three to sixty seven, Game one of the can Coon Challenge.
This is Wisconsin basketball from lear Field, back at the
Cancun Challenge one more time. For today, Wisconsin falls to
San Diego State seventy three to sixty seven. They just
keep on rolling games. So Vermont and Idaho State out
in front of us, warming up on the court. Rhode
Island in Iowa. Also, we'll play today in the night
game Yu and Rice. That's a nine o'clock local time hipoff.

(01:55:03):
So I'm glad we got the times we got for
the Badgers is again though they fall today by six.
We went through all the stats. Let's go through those
highlight Shawn Ronnie Porter will move left to the circle
chess pass off to Douglas, wide open three pointer. That
one rattles home. Hallie Douglas answers were a three's and
Douglas she'll come up the floor. Astac's like that transition

(01:55:24):
game with Sconson, like to two off in a big
skip pass. There's Lightsinger three pointer left side EDGs. She
connects Natalie Lightsinger in rhythm three Wisconsin twenty four to
nineteen five point advantage, crawl on top of the circle
three pointer. It tops up and then Lily Krawn off
the bench. It's a big three there for the Badgers.

(01:55:45):
Sconson ninety seconds into the fourth time, good start here there,
Sarah Williams off the block down. Coach stands up for
San Diego State down low, here's be a Lobos goes.

Speaker 3 (01:55:55):
Over, blocked away by Williams, a second block by Williams.

Speaker 2 (01:55:58):
Oh Porter got her pocket, thick place, You're sprawling to
the floor. Green now tries an as TECs left corner three,
missed it. Lightsinger draws the foul on an over the
back call for the rebound. Lily Crawn gets his streach.
You's gonna try a three. She's confident in its Throe
goes home, big.

Speaker 3 (01:56:14):
Light kick my coach Mosley, Wisconsin has taken the lead.

Speaker 2 (01:56:19):
Fifty nine to fifty eight. Wisconsin comes all the way
back at a twelve point deficit, ending the third quarter
five forty to go with Scoontson up fifty nine fifty eight.
Ronnie Porter gonna let this one dribble in front of her.
She'll take that. She's gonna throw it up and that
will do It's shot misses. Final score San Diego State
seventy three, Wisconsin sixty seven. Sure appreciate Sean Preeable putting

(01:56:46):
all those highlights together and ups and downs in that game.
One of the things though, that I can confidently say
filling in for John and a few of these games
here this season. This is a more talented team. This
is the most talent coach Mosley has been able to
bring in, recruiting, freshman transfer portal, all of that, and
it's just again though, getting depth and ultimately doing those

(01:57:09):
winning habits that she's still trying to work through her
fourth season. And you heard her say in the postgame
that for us, we've got to just you have to
make those smart decisions, not just in the first second quarter,
but when you get tired mentally, you got to be
there too. So Wisconsin now drops to five and two overall.
San Diego State they improved to seven to zero for
the Badgers. Their next game is tomorrow morning. They will

(01:57:30):
play Providence. It'll be ten o'clock Central time, nine forty.
We'll get that pregame started for you again right here
on ten seventy the game in Madison, Fox Sports nine
twenty in Milwaukee, and on your iHeartRadio app. So not
a lot of time for Wisconsin to digest this and
then get ready for Providence tomorrow. Also on Saturday twelve thirty,
tip off twelve ten pregame, Wisconsin will take on BCU.

(01:57:51):
A few other games here to talk about in the
Big ten, eleventh rank Ohio State today one against Oldaminion
in Daytona Beach, seventy to forty seven. They'll get starting
in about forty five minutes per due at Middle Tennessee.
That's down in Fort Myers. And as we said, the
Cancun Challenge game, twenty second ranked Iowa has Rhode Island
here later on this evening. That'll be a five thirty

(01:58:12):
Central time start. So hope everybody has a great Thanksgiving,
eat a bunch of turkey, and we will talk again tomorrow.
Don't forget you got the Packers on the radio tonight.
Five o'clock will be the start of that pregame, and
that's going to be I think a three o'clock start
Packers Game Day with Doug Russell on ten seventy the
game and ninety seven three the game in Milwaukee, and

(01:58:32):
Packers and Dolphins for a Thanksgiving feast for football and
a whole bunch of Badgers tomorrow besides our game, so
we'll talk to you then. I'm going to give a
thanks to on this Thanksgiving Day too, Bold Shaw, Preble
and David Gas for producing I'm read Magnum one more time.
Your final score San Diego State seventy three, in Wisconsin
sixty seven. All of us at iHeartMedia and the Badger
