Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hello, every Welcome to Wisconsin Badger Women's hockey. We're very
happy to have you with us on this Thanksgiving weekend.
My name is Zach Sieloff in studio alongside Mark Greenhall,
and it's our pleasure to have the call as the
Badger's travel east to take on the main Black Bears.
The Badgers had a productive weekend one week ago, sweeping
the visiting Saint Thomas Tommy's to gather six important points
in the WCCHA, improving to fifteen and one on the season.
(00:21):
On Friday, the Badger's won six to one, with Casey
O'Brien tallying her one hundred thirty eighth career assist, tying
Sarah Bauer's school record. On Saturday, the Tommies battled hard,
keeping the score close at one to one and three
to two, but eventually falling five to two to Wisconsin.
In addition to the win, Caroline Harvey scored the game
winning power play goal in the third period to notch
her one hundredth point, becoming just the fifth Badger defenseman
(00:41):
to reach that mark. Casey O'Brien also added two assists
along with two goals to take sole possession of the
all time Badger assist record, which now stands at one
hundred and forty and counting. As I mentioned, those wins
gained them six points in the WCCHA, all the more
valuable because Ohio State suffered a stunning upset last weekend
at the hands of Minnesota State from Mankato. Kept it
close in their first game, ultimately losing two to one,
(01:03):
but they sought revenge in the second game of the series,
hanging four on the Buckeyes and winning four to one
to deal Ohio State their fourth loss of the season.
Ohio State now sits in second place with twenty five
WCCHA points and a conference record of eight four and two,
just two points ahead of Minnesota Duluth and third. The
Badgers are on top of the WCCHA with thirty three
points in a record of eleven to one and zero,
having swept five of their conference opponents already. The only
(01:26):
WCCHA team they have yet to face is Minnesota State,
and they will travel to man Cato next weekend for
their final two games of twenty twenty four. Today, the
Badgers are in Main taking on the University of Maine
Black Bears. Their head coach is Molly Angstrom, a former
Badger defenseman who played for Wisconsin from two thousand and
one to two thousand and five before going on to
a long professional career as a player and now a coach.
We spoke with her yesterday and we'll have that interview
(01:47):
later on during the second intermission. The Black Bears are
currently three twelve and zero on the season, with a
win over Hockey East Conference opponents Providence and two over
Vermont to their name. They're a team that focuses on
defense first, with only a seven zero loss to Quinnipiac
in their first game the season being a blowout. That said,
they haven't been able to find much offensive punch this season,
with only two games where they scored scored three goals
(02:07):
and one with five, all others being two or less.
Alyssa Rubel is their leading scorer with four and a
leading points scorer with seven, but they'll need contributions from
their entire roster to stay competitive against a very strong
Badger's team. We've got more thoughts in analysis before we
get started with tonight's game. We're going to take a
break and be back with goalie coach Mark Greenhall as
the Badgers prepared to take on the main Black Bears.
You're listening to Wisconsin Badger Women's Hockey presented by Goodman's
(02:30):
The Diamond Store of Madison. Welcome back. Everyone's Zach siel
Off with you in studio alongside goalie coach Mark Greenhall.
Coach is great to be with you here. The Badger's
on the road in Maine, and this is kind of
an interesting game for Bucky, playing a Hockey East opponent,
you know, out of conference, and a team with a
lot of Badger connections.
Speaker 2 (02:46):
Yeah, starting with the you know, their head coach Molly
Anks from former UW Badger, And yeah, I think it's
just going to be a nice twist, something out of
the ordinary, different opponent on the road. Collectively as a
team over the Thanksgiving maybe bond a little bit in
that regard as well.
Speaker 1 (03:02):
Definitely nice to be with your teammates over the holiday,
missing family obviously, but it'll be great to see them
when they come back. As a coach, you've had to
do this a lot, and I'm curious what your preparation
is like when you're playing a team like me and
a team you don't play very much. The last time
the Badgers played them was in two thousand and three
when Molly Ekstrom was a player for the Badgers, so
twenty one years. A lot changes with a college team.
How do you get prepared for a team like.
Speaker 2 (03:22):
That, Well, like any opponent, you know, they'll they've reviewed
video of the main bearers and you kind of see
their tendencies and do your homework a little bit. But
basically you want to focus on what you do, you know,
regardless of your opponent, and we look at our areas
that we need to build upon and kind of focus
(03:42):
on that stuff, and that's primarily what we're doing at practice.
Speaker 1 (03:46):
You mentioned the areas that the Badgers need to work on.
I talk with coach Dan Cook at the end of
the last game against Saint Thomas about this. Saint Thomas
got two goals in that game, and both of them
came twenty seconds after a penalty against the Badgers expired.
So I asked them about transitioning from the penalty kill
back to five on five. What kind of work do
you do with your players and with your goalies in
particular to try and deal with that transitory period.
Speaker 2 (04:07):
That's a great question simulating those situations, where are we
going to go with the puck. Who we going to
move it to? What are our options if they're limited,
Let's just take what opponent gives us. And maybe that's
just up and out, but those kind of things, so
you don't get that situation where everybody's legs are a
little tired and na, you know, you got the puck
on a part of the rink you don't want it
(04:28):
on and the result is a goal for the opposition.
Speaker 1 (04:31):
With new opponents comes some new players for the Badgers,
or at least a little bit newer than we've seen.
Katie Kolowski and Maggie Scandal are out of the lineup
today with injury and illness, and we hope they'll be
back soon. Bella Vassar is getting a chance again. We
saw her a little bit against Saint Thomas. She'll be
on the fourth line right wing along with Finley McCarthy
and Hannah Halverson, and then Mikayla's Illich as well as
Gracie Beckett Bickett excuse me. We'll be getting some game
(04:54):
action both on the defensive side. We saw Mikayla a
little bit earlier in the season. We haven't seen Grace
bick It yet. What are you looking for from these
players tonight?
Speaker 2 (05:03):
Well more so than almost any other year I can remember,
there isn't a whole lot of drop off. We've got
a lot of depth this year. So that speaks highly
of the whole team, I think, and that includes these
people that are going to get their first you know,
kick at the can here, so to speak, as far
as experienced game experience goes. But you know, they've all
been prepared the same way. They're all I should say,
(05:26):
demanded or asked to do the same thing, so they'll
just follow suit, you know what I mean? And if
so far has been any indication there won't be much
of a drop off, if any.
Speaker 1 (05:36):
One thing I wanted to ask you. I don't feel
like the Badgers have had a problem with this, but
I think it's something that you have to consider when
you're a coach. If you look at this on paper,
you've got to say that the Badgers appear to be
the stronger team. It's a non conference opponent, it's a
holiday weekend. How do you keep your players for your
next game? How do you keep them focused on tonight's opponent.
Speaker 2 (05:52):
That's a great description or introduction to that subject matter.
And basically it's focused on the now. Don't be looking
at the past. Maybe we've got a good record, maybe
we're a crewing a lot of points, but just focus
on the now. Okay, we've got it. For instance, you
coach will even you know, instruct him. Know, it's the
first six five, six minutes. You know, let's come out fast,
(06:15):
Let's get the puck deep, make them play up hill.
You know. It's it's taking it in little manageable increments
and collectively, at the end of the day, okay that
now it's another victory. But don't look at it as
such as or an automatic. Just deal with it a
shift by shift, period by period, game by game.
Speaker 1 (06:31):
We've seen a lot of players doing just that throughout
the season. Casey O'Brien, she's leading the NCAA in points
with thirty five and assists with twenty five. Leila Edwards
got dethroned as a goal leader. She's second with a
mere fourteen. She's second to Colgate's Christina Kevinakova, who has fifteen.
So many Badger players have had so much success this year.
They're rewriting the record books, you know. Casey O'Brien now
(06:52):
on top with assists Lacey Eden, Carolyn Harvey, Layla Edwards,
everyone just really contributing. Does this team feel different than
other teams that you've been a part of. Does it
feel like the offensive punch is just a notch above it?
Speaker 2 (07:07):
And more than I can remember, we're getting contributions from
a wide spectrum of people. You know, you just rattled
off a bunch of them, and three of them that
are leading the pack, like you said there O'Brien, Eden
and m excuse me kk. You know, those people never
stop moving their feet, you know, and I think that's contagious.
(07:30):
So their teammates see that, they see the results are
getting there, going Hey, maybe if I really motor and
no matter what zone I'm in or whether we have
the puck or the opponent has the pucke, if I
move my feet, good things are going to happen. So
I think that's what we're seeing.
Speaker 1 (07:43):
I've got a bit of a trivia question for you
and for our listeners too. I saw this in our
media guidance, so I thought it'd be a fun question
to ask. Well, answer this at the first intermission, but
coach for you and for our listeners at home, the
same Badger most recently attempted a penalty shot and most
recently scored on one for Wisconsin. But they are not
the same shot which Badger most recently scored and attempted
a penalty shot? Do you have an idea of who
(08:05):
that might have been?
Speaker 2 (08:07):
Right now?
Speaker 1 (08:08):
Yeah, I'm curious that you can think about it, and
well we're going to get the answer. I'll give the
answer the first intermission. I cheated and read the media guide,
so I know.
Speaker 2 (08:15):
But I'll hold off for now. Then, are you okay?
Speaker 1 (08:19):
If you have a guest, I'd love to hear it.
Speaker 2 (08:20):
Other Yes, is oh boy, let's see here is Sims
Kirsten Sims. Yeah, okay, that's just a shot in the dark.
Is all that is?
Speaker 1 (08:31):
Fans at home? You you consider you think back to
your knowledge of Badger history. We are watching the Badgers
now as they are getting off the ice. The the
barn at Main a little bit different than the one
at Lebon. The path the players have to take a
little bit more treacherous. It is the herald Alphon Sports
Arena and Orno, Maine holds a little bit more than
(08:52):
Lebony five in a hockey configuration fivey twelve in its
basketball configuration. I don't see five thousand fans in the
stands just yet, but hopefully they'll be more coming in
a little bit later as they're getting the ice cleared.
Speaker 2 (09:05):
Ear you know, I noticed shades of the old Chicago
Stadium there. You gotta walk in your skates up or
down stairs. I see it looks like we're going up
where our bench is located. I know you had to
come from the basement and go upstairs to the bench
level at the old Chicago Stadium, but you don't see
that very often anymore.
Speaker 1 (09:24):
Those of you who have played Beer League hockey as
it's often known, have probably played in some gnarly arenas,
and I like the character it gives to a different
place as a different way for you to get on
the ice. Well, the Badgers and the main Black Bears
are going to get into action. Here a five pm
puck drop coming your way on AM ten seventy. We're
going to take a short break. We'll be back with
the start. Stay tuned to Wisconsin Badger Women's Hockey on
(09:45):
AM ten seventy the game Welcome back, Everyone's X seal
off a Mark green Hall with you in studio. The
Badger's getting ready to take on the main Black Bears
in Maine. The Badgers on the road against a Hockey
East opponent that they have not played since two thousand
and three. They won both of the those games all
those years ago. Molly Ankstrom had a primary assistant on
the game winner, and there was a player on that
(10:06):
team that had a shorthanded goal. Can you guess who
it was? Someone still affiliated with the Badgers to this.
Speaker 2 (10:11):
Day, Jackie Freezer.
Speaker 1 (10:13):
It was Jackie Frees and now Jackie Crumb, the assistant
head coach. She had a shorty in one of those games.
And everything comes full circle here. If you play in
this game long enough, you're going to see a little
bit of transition like that. I wanted to ask you
about a couple of the players that are having so
much success we talked about in the last segment. Lacey
Eden's next point will tie her with Sarah Nurse for
twentieth all time, which I was actually kind of surprised
(10:36):
to see that. Sarah Nurse. I thought she had more points.
She had such a great career with Wisconsin. The point
after that, we'll tie her with doctor Britney Amerman for nineteenth.
We got to interview doctor Amerman last week, who is
now an orthopedic surgery resident out of New York City.
Just some real impressive company for Lacy Eden to be
keeping there.
Speaker 2 (10:55):
Yeah, you're not kidding, And Lacy what, she's only a junior.
I think this is exactly mistake. And so she's really
gotten to work right out the gate back as a freshman.
And like I mentioned earlier about her, she never stops
moving her feet. And also, I think what you see
now as the game has evolved, a lot of it's
played along the wall, and her strength really comes into
(11:17):
her advantage. She'll win a lot of fifty to fifties
on the wall, and I think that's also contributing to
her big point production for sure.
Speaker 1 (11:25):
And then Casey O'Brien three more goals to time Megan
Hunter for eighth all times. She's currently tied with Sophie
Shirley for ninth. Again, two players who had tremendous careers
for the Badgers.
Speaker 2 (11:34):
Yeah, you rattle those names off, and there's just a
ton of talent and just that last breath that you
shared with us there listening off to those former players
and Casey's you know, right up there obviously and will
probably even like you said, supersede some of their achievements
just because of her work ethic and then her skills
and abilities, and she plays at such a fast pace
(11:55):
and her ability to sustain it as equally as impressive.
It's not just one day or another, it's all the time.
That's pretty impressive.
Speaker 1 (12:04):
One of the things that you mentioned. Lacy Eden is
in her fourth year right now. The only fifth year
players that the Badger have are Katie Kutlowski, Casey O'Brien,
and Quinn Coons. Lacey Eden and Sarah wes Nevitch are
in their fourth year and then everyone else junior sophomores
and freshmen, and as you mentioned, contribute contributions are coming
all the way from up and down the roster sheet.
(12:26):
There are a lot of players that are going to
be here for a long time who are doing great already.
Speaker 2 (12:29):
Yeah, we're comparatively we're a relatively young team, you know,
especially in an era where you've still got that residual
effect at COVID and the fifth year eligibility stuff.
Speaker 1 (12:39):
So it's young squad, young squad, and the Badgers are
underway as we get started here in Maine, at the
Herald Alfon Sports Arena. The Badgers win the initial draw,
Casey O'Brien taking it back all the way down behind
the net, and the Badgers will get started on offense
as Carolyn Harvey moves it forward trying to find Leila Edwards,
rips a shot and it's just a bit wide, ends
up behind the cage of Maine nineteen thirty six to
(13:02):
go in the scoreless first period. Here Badger's traveling to
take on the main Black Bears in or No, Maine,
not all that far from Bangor in the Badger's zone.
Vivian Jungles has it for Wisconsin, moves it up the
ice as the Badger's attempt to gain the zone, Case
O'Brien moves it across to Kirsten Sims could not quite
settle it down in time, and the puck ends up
in that near side corner back toward Jungles, who gets
(13:23):
shoved against the board. But here's Carolyn Harvey on the
near side up to Sims at the wing, down towards
Jungles of the near hash marks cross ice all the
way to the opposite side for Jungles, who's going to
take that one back out of the zone and get
a line change for the Badgers. Coming off the bench
was Ava Murphy who was able to push it down
low back underneath the net for Maine. The Bears have
it and move it up the ice and they're able
(13:44):
to get that one forward. Got a little two on
one chance developing here. Nice job in the slot to
break that one up. That was Laaney Potter stepping in.
They had a really good two on one. Look Lily
Fetch the sophomore carrying that one. The puck goes out
of play and we'll get a stoppage here with eighteen
forty four to go in the first period.
Speaker 2 (14:00):
That was impressive d by Potter. They did have a
nice two on one there. I thought we were in trouble,
but defended well.
Speaker 1 (14:07):
Badgers will take the face off in the near side
of their own zone. It's a fetch once again who
wins the face off for the main Bears and they
will hold it in the slot. A nice shot from
the top of the slot. That was Adriana Vandalist. But
the Badgers turn around and have a three on three
coming the other way. On the attack. Badgers bring it
down towards the hash Parks working around it as Lacy Eden,
(14:29):
who we talked about in the top of the broadcast,
controls it near the far wing of the blue line,
dumps down for Gorbatanco pass into the slot, is blocked
away by the Bears into the corner. Main controls it
now in their own zone. Coming up the near side
with eighteen seventeen to play in the scoreless first period,
Badgers pick up the puck at their own blue line,
work it across to Potter. She sends an errant pass
that is stopped by the Black Bears in front of
(14:50):
the player benches and turned back to the Badger's zone.
Gorbatanco's now got some speed on the left wing. She'll
dump and get a change as Wisconsin will bring that
third line out with eighteen minutes even to play. Was
Nevitch fights in the corner, but the Black Bear is
able to dig it free send into center ice, chasing
toward the Badger zone, but Jungles comes up with it,
finds Harvey. Now a nice stretch pass from Harvey, She's
(15:10):
able to find Picard in center ice, who dumps it
into the Bear's zone. Maine has it there behind their
own cage. With seventeen forty one to play in the
first period. Still no score here, Zaxieylfer Mark Greenhall with
you on Am ten seventy. A puck is deflected out
of play near the scorer's bench and we'll get a
center ice face off.
Speaker 2 (15:27):
Well, the early shifts here indicate we're going to have
a pretty nice contest your The main Bears look like
a good smooth skating team, you know, and are on
their home rink, so I think we're going to have
a contest in her hands tonight.
Speaker 1 (15:39):
Very good at clogging up the passing lane so far
as well. Casey O'Brien wins the draw for the Badgers.
They control and holding their own territory. Trying to find
O'Brien on the stretch pass, it's too long and the
Bear is able to turn it the opposite way back
into Badger zone. They recover possession into center ice, Sims
skating for it, but the Bears pick it up first,
skate behind their own net. Nice move along the board's
(16:01):
very sure handed on the passing are the main Black
Bears at least early in this period. Forced back behind
there own, O'Brien comes to the left wing side near
the face off, dot finds Harvey at the point. Harvey
rips a shot and that one is stopped. The first
action for Kila Lytton and the goaltender for the main Bears,
and she gloves a nice one there.
Speaker 2 (16:20):
Harvey has an uncanny ability to thread the needle through traffic.
She takes his point shot from the left point, quite
a few people between her and the net, but she
gets it all the way there and forces a goalie
to make a good glove.
Speaker 1 (16:32):
Save Badger's second line. I'll take the face off on
the near side of the Bear's zone Cassie Hall and
the dot for Wisconsin. She does win the draw to
Kelly Gorbtenko battle on the near side wall as the
puck works its way into center ice. Sixteen fifty one
to play in the first period, no scorer on the board,
neither team able to get any high danger chances. The
Badgers with one shot on goal and same for the
(16:54):
Main Black Bears. Back in their defensive zone, it's Wisconsin
again at the blue line. They lose control and put
it back into neutral ice. Now on the swing pass,
here comes the Badgers, striking around Lady Potter to the
front a shot in a save Lightning gets the pad down.
Potter with a power forward move to get a nice
scoring attempt.
Speaker 2 (17:13):
There. Yeah, nice drive to the net down the right wing.
Speaker 1 (17:16):
Great job by Lady Potter, but it is turned away
by Lightning. The Badgers behind their own net. It's Kelly
Grbtenko is sixteen fourteen to play. Long pass from Garbatenko
comes all the way down. A nice little quick shot
from Vivian Jungles is wide of the cage on the
right side. Garbatenko again has it drop passed towards the dot.
Turned around by Cassie Hall down into the corner for
(17:37):
Wisconsin cross ice passed, but nobody there given a whack
at it. As Ava Murphy, she does send it toward Lightning,
but the defense of the Black Bears keeps it from
getting to her. Fifteen fifty to go and now a
loose pucket is picked up by the Badger's a shot
and a score.
Speaker 2 (17:51):
Oh wow.
Speaker 1 (17:52):
Sarah Waznevitch grabbed the loose pucket, banged off a black
Bear skate right into the high slot and she buries it.
It's one nothing wiscons with fifteen forty six to go.
Speaker 2 (18:01):
Beautiful goal by Wise. You know she takes advantage of
a turnover on the Bear's behalf there coming in the
high slot. She's a right winger and just rips a
hard wrister beating the goaltender. I believe to her stick.
Speaker 1 (18:14):
Side Arabwasnevitch is a talented, talented player. She is really
good out there. Her and picardon Enwright form a really
potent line that I think a lot of teams would
love to have as their first line. They the Badger's
third line.
Speaker 2 (18:26):
Kidding, man, You're not kidding.
Speaker 1 (18:28):
And not even the five minutes in the Badgers lead
one nothing on top of the main Black Bears. Fifteen
thirty six to go. As the Black Bears have it
behind the Badger's net knocked off, the puck in Wisconsin
will recovering their own zonut toward the blue line, broken
up by Fetch of Maine. But the loose puck now
to the corner for Ava Murphy of Wisconsin.
Speaker 2 (18:47):
You know, Zach, we haven't seen a lot of shots
on nets, so it's nice to see that one cut
right away.
Speaker 1 (18:52):
Yeah, exactly right, Badgers with only three shots on goal,
Maine with only one. But the Badgers get a score
out of one of those sarahwaz Nevitch converting four Wisconsin
at four fourteen in the first period. Enwright puts the
puck into the main zone. They'll send it back up
the near wall. Dumped in that time by Brenna Curle.
She's the younger sister of Britack curl Badger Star who's
(19:13):
now going to be playing in the PWHL. As Maine
tries to get some offense going, Badgers take that one away,
moving forward with it as Finley McCarthy, the freshman, has
Halverson back to McCarthy on a give and go at
the top of the near circle. Now down to Halverson
in the corner toward the slot, but only black bears
are there. McCarthy couldn't quite get the stick on it.
(19:33):
Maine dumps that one into the Badger zone, immediately turned
around and the Badger's on the counter attack. Hannah Halverson
stick handling through traffic towards Finley McCarthy, faceof dot bottom
the circle, feed to the center and the shot is
just managed to be saved. I believe that was Ava
Murphy got the final stick. Now a breakaway the other
way bears a shot and it's glove down and saved
by Ava McNaughton. Michayla Border out of Richland, Virginia seven goals,
(19:57):
six assists in her career. A nice stop by.
Speaker 2 (20:00):
Yeah, just a quick transition. We got a shot on goal.
Next thing you know, they're coming back the other way
and they get a one on zero and Ava shuts
the door.
Speaker 1 (20:07):
That's the thing you were talking about at the top.
This team looks an awful lot better than I think
you would expect. Seen three to twelve on the schedule.
So the Badger's face off in their own zone. They
do win that one back. It's Ava Murphy that controls
FO Wisconsin as they move it into center ice. Coming
up with speed now is Casey O'Brien. She's got Leila
Edgwards with her feet to her and the deflection is
no good. A second attempt and Lighting then freezes it down.
(20:31):
O'Brien and Edwards attack viciously in that one, but are
not able to get it to go.
Speaker 2 (20:36):
Yeah. Nice pass into the slot to eaton or I
mean to Edwards, but she tried to push it forward,
didn't go in, and O'Brien was following the play and
almost banged in a rebound on that shot.
Speaker 1 (20:48):
Give credit to Jamie Grinder, the senior defenseman. O'Brien had
a look at the open net before Lightning could get
her pad back, but obstructed. She was obstructed by Grinder
just enough to keep her from getting the shot on
in time. Defensive work by the Black Bears to present
a two zero lead. As it is, the Badgers do
lead one nothing with thirteen forty nine to go in
the period, and I believe we have a penalty coming
(21:08):
up here. A tripping call is going to go against
the Black Bears. I believe, I believe that'll be their
assistant captain Alissa Ruble. We'll get that call in just
a moment. We're going to take thirty seconds in me
back you listen to Wisconsin Badger Women's hockey on AM
ten seventy the game. Welcome back everyone. The Badger's lead
won nothing in the first period out in Maine against
(21:29):
the Main Black Bears, but it was Landy Potter. I
had to incorrect, Lady Potter, that was called for the
tripping penalty. So it will be a two minute penalty
kill for Wisconsin, a two minute power play for the
Main Black Bears, and coach so far been happy with
what I've seen from Wisconsin, they're doing what they like
to do with passing, moving the puck. But Maine a
talented defensive team, and they're really doing a job in
particular of getting in those passing lanes.
Speaker 2 (21:51):
Yeah, I think they're taking a page out of their
coach's book there. Molly Anks from a solid defenseman. They
must be listening to her because they defend well and
they also clogged a middle are the neutral zone. They
make it difficult to get the puck through the neutral
zone as well, so well schooled team.
Speaker 1 (22:07):
The score by Sarah was Nevitch the only score in
this game, coming at four to fourteen in the first period.
Unassisted was Znevitch picked up a loose puck in the
high slot and buried at blocker's side. The Badgers go
on a two minute penalty kill. They win the initial
drawback towards their own near corner, but the Black Bears
dig it off the wall there and send it over
to the far side. Striding to grab it, was Lacy
Eden drops the puck off and the Badgers will clear
(22:28):
a nice shot to clear it down. So thirteen thirty
three to go in the period, minute forty three to
go on the power play, and here's Casey O'Brien picking
up the loose puck in the far corner, just rides
it along the wall and finds Eden. Eden's gonna send
it back out to neutral ice as the Badgers will
kill more time on this penalty. So far, it's been
all Badgers on the possession of this penalty. Thirty seconds
gone in the pek and it's been outstanding for the Badgers.
Speaker 2 (22:50):
That was pretty impressive there O'Brien beats two of their
players all the way down the far end of the
rink to get to the puck first to allow us
to keep that possession.
Speaker 1 (22:57):
Loose pucking center ice picked up by Casey O'Brien, and
she's got a chance at a two on one as
she works up the left wing side, feeds across for
Eden and it'll be frozen instead picked up by lightninging
the goaltender and stop down minute thirteen to go on
the power play, thirteen oh two to go in the period,
Badges up one nothing.
Speaker 2 (23:13):
What year is her a goaltender?
Speaker 1 (23:14):
There is that she is a freshman out of Porvou Finland.
Kila Lightening two nine to zero on the season two
point eight seven goals against, eighty nine point nine percent
save percentage. Not a bad goaltender by any means.
Speaker 2 (23:26):
Especially for a freshman and hopping into Division one.
Speaker 1 (23:28):
Play here exactly right and coming from a from a
foreign nation, doing a great job for the Main Black
Bears off the face off the puck in neutral ice,
fifty eight seconds to go on the powerplay. As Main
controls near their own blue line, try to move it
through center ice, it gets past everybody and comes all
the way down to the far corner of the Badger zone.
Was Nevitch turns it all the way to the opposite
and once again cleared out, that time by Marianne Picard,
(23:51):
who is able to put it all the way into
the near corner of the Main black Bear zone forty
seconds to go on the powerplay. Twelve twenty seven to go.
In the period controlling it is Kendall Sunby Sunday, the
three time Mollyankstrom Award winner for the defensive Player of
the Year in Wisconsin high school hockey, now a freshman
defenseman with the Main Bears. The Bears back into their
(24:11):
own defensive zone just twenty three seconds to go on
the power play, haven't generated a shot so far on
this power play opportunity, and they are called for an icing,
so the Badgers will get a face off in the
main Bear zone with nineteen seconds to go on that
power play.
Speaker 2 (24:24):
Yeah, doing a nice job of killing this penalty off here, Zach.
Hopefully we can do so for another nineteen seconds.
Speaker 1 (24:30):
Lady Potter guilty of the trip at six to eleven
in the first period, but only nineteen seconds left on
that power play, and still the Black Bears are without
a shot twelve o eight to go in this first period,
Badger's up won nothing thanks to the unassisted goal from Sarahwaznevitch.
Badgers get a quick shot off the face off. What
a rip from Kelly Gorbatanko of gloves saved by lightning.
Speaker 2 (24:50):
I had a little mustard on it, Zach. She ripped
that one hard. It almost took the goalies hat off.
Speaker 1 (24:54):
She and Lacy Eden when they let it go. It
has an unbelievable I'm out of speed behind, Oh sorry,
go ahead, a.
Speaker 2 (25:01):
Lot of velocity. You're right, they just get a lot
on it.
Speaker 1 (25:04):
Eight seconds on that power play. The Black Bears, coming
out of their own defensive zone stretch passes too long,
the intended target unable to grab it, and another icing calls,
so it's just three seconds. On the power play, the
Badgers will have a face off in the defensive zone
of the Black Bears, having more or less successfully killed
off this penalty.
Speaker 2 (25:21):
Yeah, now, let's just watch shortly after the penalty expires
here to make sure we you know, kill it off
but still sustain defense there. Last week we didn't have
such luck on that situation exactly.
Speaker 1 (25:35):
We talked about the transition out of the penalty kill
back to five on five in the pregame show, the
penalty has expired, both teams at full strength, with eleven
forty three to go in the first period, still one
nothing Wisconsin. As the puck is in neutral ice, the
Black Bears are jamming it towards the scorer's table. Fight
ensues there between five different players and Cassie Hall comes
up the better of it, moves it ahead towards Kirsten Sims,
(25:56):
stripped off her by Mikaela Border and Border who had
that breakaway early, comes it down and works hard to
get behind the net. She is eventually ridden to the
ice and the Badgers turn it the other way. And
the person of Ava Murphy back to Lady Potter out
of that penalty now that the Badger's just killed off
and across to Murphy again in front of the score's
table on the near side. Whist into the Bear's zone
(26:19):
by Cassie Hall. Now Kirsten Sims trying to get it
behind the net. Bears pick it up there, drop and
work through the center of their own zone. Maine Bear's
moving through neutral ice. Good defense by the Badger's a
easy shot for McNaughton to stop down. She gloves it
and we'll have a stoppage and a face off with
ten fifty three to go in the first period.
Speaker 2 (26:39):
You know, it's nice to see Ava Murphy back to
pretty much full health. She was battling, you know, I
always flew or something earlier in the year and she
just wasn't one hundred percent. But as of last weekend
you started to see a more solid performance on her.
Speaker 1 (26:52):
It's nice to see her now she's healthy. Maine Bear's
got way in early on that face off attempt. The
referee sends the center out of the dot. Cassie Hall
for the Badgers. I'm sorry, Mary and Picard does win
that one. And now it's Carolyn Harvey on the nearer
side of the badger zone. Long passes out of the
reach of Picard. Picard goes striding to wave off the icing.
She can't get there, and we'll head back to the
(27:12):
badger zone for another face off. One nothing Wisconsin with
ten forty four to go in the first period.
Speaker 2 (27:18):
Yeah, let's see what we can do with this. Maybe
up and out of the zone quickly. Bennan who takes
to draw. I think we got Picard in the center circle.
Speaker 1 (27:26):
There, we sure do, Mary, and Picard is taking on
Lilah Shay off the draw. It is Shay that wins it.
The bear set up on offense. Try to send a
shot passed down, it ends up behind the net. They
gather it up in the far corner. Find the defenseman.
That's Brenda Curle. A quick shot and a glove save
McNaughton does a great job covering just above her pads.
(27:46):
And the NHL especially, you're seeing guys shoot for that zone,
you know, a couple inches above the pads. Mcdaonton always
has the glove and position.
Speaker 2 (27:52):
Yeah, that tween er distance are range that they shoot from,
and they go for that spot. It is a got
to really hone in on that area. She does a
nice job, stays on her feet, but gets her glove
dow low and she can drop down quickly if she
needs to fetch.
Speaker 1 (28:05):
Wins the draw. Curl a shot and a pad save.
A nice shot from Curl and the near point. Another
drive from the point and that one is deflected away,
doesn't make it to McNaughton. Avia McNaughton getting a couple
of saves. Boy a big hit against Kirsten Simms, and
there's a whistle and I think they're going to get
the Bears for a penalty here. Brenna Curl potentially either
body checking or elbowing a big shot delivered against Kirsten Simms.
Speaker 2 (28:29):
And I've never met a weak Curl. Very true, and
I think her sister is as well. It must be genetic.
There is zach yeh.
Speaker 1 (28:36):
We see the replay would have been a decent hit
in the NHL, but that is not allowed in women's
college hockey. So Brenda Curle the guilty party and the
Badgers will have the power play here. With ten fifteen
to go, Wisconsin wins the draw in the Black Bears
zone and control up at the center point. There's Kirstin Simms,
the one who was fouled just a moment ago, a
(28:57):
center point for Carolyn Harvey. Edwards cross to Sims, can't
quite grab it. She'll grab it in the point instead
and skate around Sims to the slot. There's Edwards a
shot in a save. Lightning just got the stick on it.
Edwards had a good look at the net, but Lightning recovers.
Speaker 2 (29:14):
Nice quick release and took a heck of a save
by their goaltender.
Speaker 1 (29:16):
Sims beneath the net looking for Edwards finds her at
the faceoff dot. Wind in a dry from Murphy in
a score. Excuse me, Caroly and Harvey a one time
slapper from the high slot. Beautiful pass from Edwards. What
a score to nothing? Badgers.
Speaker 2 (29:32):
Yeah, Edwards is over there on the left dot. She
gets the puck and just quick catch and release off
to Harvey in the center point and boom, just a
one timer beat her on the stick side.
Speaker 1 (29:44):
Those of you who are Washington Capital's fans will have
seen alex Ivshkin vixedimize so many teams in exactly that way.
The slap shot. You know it has the speed, but
it's hard to target accurately. She puts that in just
the right spot. Yes, she did a beautiful shot from
le Eaton, or excuse me, from Carolyn Harvey and Edwards
with the assist, and the Badgers are up to nothing
(30:06):
with nine thirty to go in this first period.
Speaker 2 (30:09):
You know they're gonna make us earn them though, aren't they, Zach.
They're a good team.
Speaker 1 (30:12):
It was not easy to get where they needed to
be on that one, but they make it work. After
the Brennet curl penalty, the Badger's convert. They're up to
nothing with nine to fifteen to play in this first
period in center ice. Now it's Lacey Eden turns around.
It's fine to Cassie Hall, who enters the zone all
to the top of the fire circle. She rips a
(30:33):
shot in and lightening holds that one down and freezes it.
We'll get a face off with nine ozh three to go,
Badger's up to nothing.
Speaker 2 (30:39):
That's a good play. You know. Hall lets it go
on Net because she sees she's got two teammates right
there on the doorstep. If that gold on tender doesn't
pick it clean, we got a rebound to work with.
So it's a nice play. As long as you hit
the net with a shot, we're going.
Speaker 1 (30:53):
To take a media time out. You're listening to Wisconsin
Badger Women's hockey on AM ten seventy the game Welcome
back everyone. The Badgers lead two to nothing thanks to
a power play tally from Caroline Harvey assisted by Leila Edwards,
and they are now up in this game with the
two goals to none lead with nine minutes even to play.
The main Bears, coming out of their zone after winning
a face off in the Badger's zone, flip the puck
(31:14):
in down deep and Sarah Wasnvitch will turn it around
for the Badger's rim it along the far boards. Claire
end Wrights overstates it but is able to track it
back down was Nevitch assisting as well, and now Picard
will gather the loose puck in the Badger zone. A
pass is picked off and it's Reagan worm worm a
low angle shot saved by Ava McNaughton and the puck
(31:34):
into the near corner. With eight thirty four to play,
Badger's up to nothing here in this first period. Reagan
worman a nice job to grab that one didn't have
much of an angle, but took the best shot she could.
Speaker 2 (31:43):
He made it, caught it, you know, tried to take
advantage of that turnover. We can't afford to make states
like that in our our own Endbury.
Speaker 1 (31:51):
Often definitely not Maine. Working back on offense again. Back
in the Badger's zone. Puck stripped away though by Wisconsin,
and they'll move it up the near wall back into
some ice. Bears are there. Loose puck comes toward the
near wall where it's grabbed by Ava Murphy and she
enters the left wing side of the Bear zone. Hanna
Halverson the freshman, with a shot a bit wide of
the cage and comes to the far wall, dug up
(32:12):
by Finley McCarthy along with Claire en Wright on the
near side. Now black Bears trying to break it out
of the zone. Can't do it, have to turn it
back the other way along the rear side wall. Black
Bears on the far corner, back behind their own net again.
Now find Alyssa Ruble Ruble. They're leading scores so far
this season four goals, three assists. Badgers pick it off
of the blue line and push it back down low
(32:34):
Bella Vassar put it to the rear wall for Wisconsin
taken away by the Bears once more. Vandalist up the
wall past Avia Murphy at the blue line, coming all
the way down and icing is the call. So the
Badger's with a little bit of sub same zone time
force an icing from the Black Bears and they'll get
another good face off.
Speaker 2 (32:51):
Yeah, there was some good aggressive fore checking there by
Vassar and Helverson.
Speaker 1 (32:57):
Great to see Vassar out there on the ice. And
we're looking today as well for a Zillish and hopefully
Gracie Bickett at some point later in this game. They're
both listed on the defensive lines for tonight's contest. Badgers
win the draw in the Black Bear zone and it's
Leila Edwards top of the circle, feed toward O'Brien a
tip and it is just wide, just misses the cage
on the right side. Edwards one time drive off the
(33:19):
glove and end. Edwards didn't seem to get all of
that one, but she put it off the inside of
a stretching lightning's glove and she gets the score.
Speaker 2 (33:29):
I think she the velocity or flight was kind of
deceiving the way that it came off of Edwards stick
as a result, the goaltender didn't pick it cleanly. He
got a glove on it partially, but when trickled up
over her glove and.
Speaker 1 (33:42):
In exactly almost a change up if you will, like
a level ball a lot less speed than you're anticipating.
And as we watched the replay here, boy, we see
the tip from O'Brien that replay. Yeah, man, she was
close on that one, but Edwards makes them pay three nothing.
Wisconsin was seven oh five to go in the first period,
the Badger on top, Badger's control in the bear zone.
(34:03):
Sims finds O'Brien near side. Now up to the point
working our way down as jungles and we have a
whistle for a stoppage. We'll get the call here. Badgers
with a three to nothing lead. And we talked about
Maine a very talented defensive team, but the Badger's an
extremely talented offensive team and so far that's predominating for that.
Speaker 2 (34:21):
Yeah, we're making our shots on net count here. I
don't know what the shot differential is. I don't think
it's that great, but we have the advantage, I.
Speaker 1 (34:29):
Know, but it isn't that great though. In the differentially right,
the Badgers have eleven shots on goal. Main has seven,
so it's not like they're getting chances, but the Badgers
are making them fall. Speaking of three on two Badgers
to Edwards a shot and she just misses, hits the
side of the cage. How often have we seen ten
twenty six and twenty seven Edwards, O'Brien and Sims. They
nearly get another score there. It was almost four to nothing.
(34:51):
As it is three o Badgers with six twenty four
to go in the first and O'Brien is coming up
again on the left wing side. Bears turned that one
back into neutral ice and here comes Main the other
way entry on the left wing edge, and they are
off sides as the call will get another face off
six sixteen to go in the first.
Speaker 2 (35:06):
You know, those linemates are so unselfish there that they're
all a threat, you know, because as a defender, you
can't just go, I'll just shut down this one particular
person and keep them quiet. It's no you got to
know where all three of those people are and make
sure they're defended.
Speaker 1 (35:22):
Absolutely no way that you can ignore a single player
on this Badger's team in terms of being a scoring
threat off the face off Badgers control back in their
own zone. Gorbatenko tries to lead one ahead for Cassie Hall,
broken up by the Bears and now coming the other way.
A shot from Worm and a pad save. Sorry, that
was Jaden Britt of the Black Bears that got a
shot on there. McNaughton with a nice stop. Murphy has
(35:45):
the puck stripped away from her by Hanson of the Bears,
and a battle behind the Badger's cage. Five forty seven
ago in the first period, three nothing Wisconsin. Leila Edwards,
the most recent scorer for the Badgers. Cassie Hall now
has a two on two chances. She works up it
across to Gorbatanco into center ice and just out of
the reach of Lacy Eden trying to find her in
(36:05):
the slot. Eden, though, picks it back up and she'll
re enter the zone as she goes to the top
of the circle off sides, though, Gorbatanco turned the corner
just a moment early, and we'll have a neutralized face off.
Speaker 2 (36:15):
Yeah, gorbel was fomented the bit there. She couldn't wait
to get in the zone, and so we're gonna, like
you said, have an off sides face off.
Speaker 1 (36:22):
Really wanted to get in there, but unfortunately nothing doing.
We're going to take a short break and be back
with more of this first period. It's three nothing Badgers
on Am ten seventy the game. Welcome back everyone. The
Badger's in Maine and they are leading three to nothing
with five seventeen to go in the first period. The
Main Black Bears control the puck in their own defensive zone,
trying to work it up the near side, stripped away
bow by the Badgers, and here's Cassie Hall with a
(36:43):
shot and a save. Lightning freezes that one down. Hall
strips it away at the point right to the top
of the circle. Fires and Lightning is working hard tonight
for the Bears.
Speaker 2 (36:52):
Yeah. Yeah, she's earning her keeping net there for him.
She's getting tested pretty often here by us.
Speaker 1 (36:58):
The Badgers have so far in this period. And let
me pull it up real quickly. Twelve shots on goal
now to seven for the Main Black Bears, but three
of theirs have found the back of the net. A
shot from the point for the Badgers off the face
off does not make it through traffic. Was Nevitch has
it on the far wall down towards Picard beneath the net.
Speaker 2 (37:14):
Picard.
Speaker 1 (37:14):
Nice play with the skate to hang onto possession as
she comes up the near side, works her way around.
Now she's got some open space to the high slot
face off Dodd shot across and missus wide of the mark,
but there's Vivian Jungles to recapture behind the date again.
Picard hassled by two different Black Bears as she tries
to dig that puck off the wall, assisted by Claire Enwright,
but the Black Bear is able to get it free
and into neutral ice. Nice tap ahead by Stephanie Jacob
(37:37):
of the Black Bears works it all the way down
beneath the Badger's net where it's picked up and taken
away by Zillish. We haven't called her name yet. Playing defense,
Mikhayla Zilla's shout there with Vivian Jungles doing some work
on the defensive end for Wisconsin. Four twenty two to
go in the first period, Badger's up three to nothing.
They've had goals by Sarah Wasnvitch, Carolin Harvey, and Leyla Edwards.
The Harvey tally was a power play goal after a
Brenda Curl Penaltyagers dump and change as they put this
(38:01):
one into the far corner of the main Black Bear zone.
Maine loses the puck in center ice and the Badgers
have it. Their nice little touch pass finds McCarthy and
she puts it down the left wing end, all the
way behind the net. Maine rims it around, trying to
get it past the point, can't get it past Potter,
but the puck becomes confused and does end up in
neutral ice. Lady Potter had a tripping penalty earlier in
(38:23):
the game. Badgers killed that off very successfully, did not
allow a shot for the Black Bears. On the penalty. Maine,
with the puck in their own zone, rifles it towards
someone in the center ice, someone who is not there,
and icing is the call. Badgers will take a face
off in the main zone with three thirty five to
go in the first period.
Speaker 2 (38:40):
Yeah, I don't know who she was intended to receive
that pass, but shot the nowhere. Basically, I think we've.
Speaker 1 (38:48):
All done that. If you've ever played hockey, you have
the experience of being sure that you see a teammate
and then firing a puck into the middle of nowhere.
So the Badgers will take the draw in the near
side of the Black bear zone Casey O'Brien and then
the first line out there, and O'Brien does win that
face off, gives it over to Ava Murphy. Wo's working
away up from the defensive position, tries a shot on
the left shoulder of Lightning, shrugs it off near the post.
(39:10):
A nice job again by Kuila Lighton and feed toward
the center. A deflection and a save from Lightning that
was Lela Edwards deflected the pass from case O'Brien, but
Lightening able to stand tall. Badger's still control wide open,
case O'Brien feed into center, a shot in the save.
A follow up attempt is no good. A second chance
is blocked by the defense. Three quick shots from Wisconsin,
(39:32):
but none of them are able to find their way
past Lightning.
Speaker 2 (39:35):
And one of them, Lightning made a save, but she
didn't know where the puck was afterward.
Speaker 1 (39:38):
She didn't even see it. And you've got to give
credit to a goaltender. It feels like that's luck, but
that's position, that's being where you need to be.
Speaker 2 (39:45):
Yep reading to play and putting herself in the most
optime spot to make the save.
Speaker 1 (39:49):
Badger's in their own zone, work it through center ice
coming up with the puck. Now this time is Potter
drops it off for O'Brien at the bottom of the
dear circle. Her feed to the slot is picked up
by the Black Bears. Nice job to move around traffic
in their own zone, but a great block by Eden
at the point holds the puck in Black Bear territory.
Badger's trying to dig it off the wall. Eden loses control.
Striding up to get after that one was Emma Venusio.
(40:12):
She broke up the play that did not allow the
Black Bears to streak out. Here comes O'Brien re entering.
It's a four on two for Wisconsin. Feet across is
broken up by the captain of these Black Bears, and
if not for her intervention, that sure looked like a
score coming up for Wisconsin. Still three nothing Badgers with
two seven to play. Carolyn Harvey at the top of
the near circle moves it across for Jungles back to
(40:33):
Harvey at the center point. She works her way down
into the slot. Harvey a shot Kevin trickles in. Carolyn
Harvey able to thread it past Lightning her second goal
of the game. It's four nothing Badgers.
Speaker 2 (40:45):
That's great. Harvey started with the puck way up top
on at the point she walks around one player, walks
it in a little closer, weights just right freezes the goaltender,
rips a shot. The goaltender makes to save Parsley, but
doesn't squeeze it hard enough right on the ice for
a goal.
Speaker 1 (41:02):
I gotta say, I mean, we know about Carolyn Harvey shot.
We saw the slapper that she had for the earlier goal,
but her skate work was so good in that to
get around a couple of defenders and work into the slot.
Speaker 2 (41:12):
Yeah, she has some of the best edgework of any
skater I've ever seen play hockey, male or female. She
works on it hard every day and it's very evident
in her play and allows her to create space with
no room at all.
Speaker 1 (41:23):
Emma Venusio and Lacy Eden get credits for the assist
on that one at eighteen oh two in the first period.
It is for nothing, Wisconsin, and it feels like they've
broken through the defense of the Black Bears that we saw,
giving them quite a bit of a boost in the
first few minutes of this game. Yeah, now the Badgers
are starting to figure out what they need to do
to work past it, and they're really generating some offense.
Speaker 2 (41:44):
Yeah, and I don't know how many lines she's playing offhand,
I can't really tell just yet, I you know, but
there again, I think our depths. You know, we're rolling
four plus basically, and as the game progresses, that wears
on the opponent.
Speaker 1 (41:57):
You know, it's awfully hard to hang with a Badger
team that can victimize you all the way up and
down the roster. Minute forty five to go in this
first period, Badgers lead for nothing thanks to the even
strength tally from Carolyn Harvey. That's her second goal of
the game, her third point in this game. She's got
an awful lot on the score sheet, and she does
send this one up to Gorbatenko. A nice one touch
finds Eden. Eden turns a shot, but it's deflected high
(42:19):
and into the safety netting. We'll get a sapage with
a minute thirty to play.
Speaker 2 (42:24):
Yeah, I like this pace that we're sustaining here makes
us very difficult to defend with about a minute and
a half here to go in the first The way
the game was starting out, I didn't think we'd have
four on the board right now, that's for sure. I'll
level with you.
Speaker 1 (42:40):
No. The first few minutes felt like it might be
a surprisingly even contest, but the Badgers. Badgers say, don't
ever count us out based on a few minutes of action,
and they are up for nothing. With a minute twenty
two to go in this period, puck on the near
side of the black Bear zone. They're trying to work
it out, hassled by Landy Potter. Excuse me, Sarah was
Nevis who was able to push it back behind the
(43:01):
Black Bears. Pick it up there again, all along the
near wall. Again, the Badger's collapsing down, not making it
easy to exit the zone. Nice job to carry that
one forward by the black Bears, but stripped once more.
And here turning the other way is Maryanne Picard through
center Ice, Wisconsin. On the counter attack. Picard to the
left wing. She's got help as she works her way
down beneath the net feed toward the slot. It's just
(43:22):
out of the reach of the intended target. Claire and
right Jungles rips a shot from the point. Nice pads
saved from lightning. With forty five seconds to go in
the period, Badger's up Ford to nothing on the main
Black Bears trying to clear this one out as Lily Fetch.
The sophomore is able to get that one into center ice,
but immediately that one is picked up by Hannah Halverson
stripped off her stick, but following along is the Badger's
(43:44):
Lady Potter. Potter to the bottom of the circle, Potter
a feet across for Halverson and it's just out of
her reach. We've seen Lady Potter go into the net
a few times tonight, and we don't usually see that
from her. She's looking good.
Speaker 2 (43:54):
Yeah, I think her confidence is growing, you know, and
her partners know how to read that make sure they covers.
But we got somebody back there.
Speaker 1 (44:03):
Nine seconds to go. Badger's still control, trying to find
one last offensive push in the waning seconds. A drive
from Jungles, a deflection and a score. And if I
saw that right, it was Bella Vassar that got her
stick up and bladed it into the nest.
Speaker 2 (44:16):
I think you're right. She was in like the mid
to low slot Vassar was, and she just used her
stick almost like a you know, lacrosse racket, and deflected
that thing out of mid air, guiding it in for
a goal.
Speaker 1 (44:28):
And indeed it is Bella Vassar with the deflection. What
a job by Bella Vassar. Great shot from Vivian Jungles
and the redirect from Bella Vassar gets the score and
that is Bella Vassar's first goal, her first point to
the season. What a job, What a way to get
on the score sheet.
Speaker 2 (44:45):
With three seconds left in the period. That's a backbreaker
for the opposing team.
Speaker 1 (44:49):
You know, that is so hard. You feel like you
know you're down for nothing. But like, we can get
into the locker room, let's think about what we want
to do different. And then with just three seconds to go,
the Badgers find a way to get another the score
it is five nothing Wisconsin and the Badgers are all
over this. Black Bears team have a little bit of
discussion here. I think they're they're questioning whether this might
(45:10):
have been a high stick.
Speaker 2 (45:11):
Yeah, they might have gone on they'll review and see
that the stick of Vasser was not too high over.
Speaker 1 (45:17):
The look at the replay, it's close. I gotta say
it is close. She's holding it near the level of
the shoulder. You can see her bring it down as
she tries to make contact. But from that the angle
we had there wasn't good and they are going to
wave off the goal. So it's confirmed they they did
wave it off.
Speaker 2 (45:35):
Unfortunately, Oh they did.
Speaker 1 (45:37):
Yeah, yeah, no, that's all right. They waved that one off.
So no goal for Bella Vassar. It was a beautiful
play and it's it's a goal in our hearts, if
not a goal on the score sheet. A great play
from the Badgers. As it is, they'll have to settle
for being ahead only four to nothing after one period
of play. You got to be extremely happy with what
you saw from them, coach in that first period.
Speaker 2 (45:55):
Yeah, I'll tell you what to come out and put
four on the board almost here in the first stanza
is pretty impressive. And what I like is we just
kept rolling, you know, we didn't like Okay, we get
a little bit of a lead, now we fall into
bad habits. No, just continue doing what you're supposed to do.
Good things happen, and they're and shift after shift, they're
(46:15):
putting it together.
Speaker 1 (46:16):
The Badgers are always playing their game and that has
led to a four to nothing lead at the end
of the first period Wisconsin over the main Black Bears.
We're going to take a break. We'll be back with
the intermission show. You're listening to Wisconsin Badger women's hockey
on AM ten seventy the game Welcome Back. Everyone's actually
off of Mark green Hall with you in studio. The
Badgers are on the road against the Main Black Bears,
and after one period of action they are up four
(46:38):
to nothing and coach seventeen shots on goal for the Badgers,
just seven for me and David McNaughton steered away all
seven from the Black Bears, but the Badgers get four
of theirs to fall nearly five at the end of
the period. An offensive explosion in that first stanza.
Speaker 2 (46:52):
Yeah, they you know, go on the road and face
an opponent you haven't seen in forever. I like those results.
Four a goal a period are good and almost five.
Speaker 1 (47:02):
One thing that did surprise me the face offs almost even.
Badgers win fifteen of them. Main wins thirteen of them,
and it felt like the Badgers had an awful lot
of possession despite only winning half the face offs.
Speaker 2 (47:12):
Yeah. I think that second part of that equation is
attributed to our aggressive four check. I think let's say
they win the draw it in their defensive zone and
we four check hard. Now we end up getting possession
or taking it over possession along the wall, and now
we've got puck to work within our offensive end. You know.
Speaker 1 (47:31):
Special teams also a big contrast. The Badgers get a
tripping penalty against Landy Potter at six to eleven in
the first period. They kill that off with ease. They
don't even allow a shot. And then a body checking
penalty against Brenda Curle at nine to forty two in
the first period, and within thirty seconds the Badgers convert
that into a goal off the stick of Carolyn Harvey.
Special team's going great for Wisconsin.
Speaker 2 (47:50):
Yeah, there are always a factor, and you hope that your
squads are ready for that. You know, your special units
and today ours are. You know, you got your powerplay
convert it and killing off the one penalty killer we
had to.
Speaker 1 (48:02):
Do there, all righty, Well, the Badgers and the Bears
will get back at action shortly. We're going to take
our last break and be back with the second period.
It's four nothing Wisconsin on Am ten seventy eighth. The
game back everyone. The second period of action is under
way in Maine. The Badgers are up for to nothing
on the main Black Bears, and the Black Bears control
in their own zone, move it up to center ice
and push it all the way into Badger's territory. For
(48:23):
this second period, the Black Bears moving right to left.
As we look at them, they're in their home whites
with blue pants, blue numerals. The Badgers in their traveling reds,
moving left to right with red pants and white numerals.
Badger's on the attack now. Cassie Hall behind the black
Bear's net, moves it up towards the point just out
to reach a Landy Potter. A nice attempted pass, but
it does not connect and comes all the way back
behind the Badger goal line. Ava Murphy there. Back to
(48:46):
Cassie Hall on the near side, Black Bears trying to
dig it off the wall back beneath the Badger's nete
for Lady Potter and Aviy Murphy. Ava Murphy, excuse me?
On the far side, pass towards Lacy Eaton is intercepted
and it's picked up, taking in a quick shot that
time by Kendall Sunby. The three time Mollyanks from Award
winner gets a pad save off of Ava McNaughton. The
first shot of this second period. Another shot comes into
(49:08):
McNaughton and she easily gloves it down. We'll have a
face off with eighteen minutes to go in the Badger' zone.
Speaker 2 (49:13):
I'd like to see our passes sharpen up here a
little bit. As far as we introduce the second period,
we got a couple that have been picked off. We
don't want that.
Speaker 1 (49:21):
No, just a little bit sloppy coming out of the gate.
Badgers will look to clean it up. As Mary am
Picard wins the draw for the Badgers in the far
side of their own zone, Harvey back towards the far
corner stripped away by the Bears, passed through the blue
paints ahead of Ava McNaughton, but doesn't find a stick
and ends up on the near side wall rim the
opposite way. Badgers towards center ice. The Bears are there.
(49:42):
They drop it into the Badger's zone once more than now.
It's put through a pair of skates through the wicket,
says Sarahwaznevitch picks it up, sends towards the net, but
the defense skates it away before he can get on target.
The Black Bears back into neutral Ice, turning her way
around with it as Frederic Foss she dumps it into
the zone. Danish nowtional team player at the World Championships
in twenty twenty four seventeen twenty three to go Badgers
(50:04):
with it in their own territory. Still for nothing Wisconsin here.
In this game, the Badgers had four first period goals,
one power play, three even strength talies, two of them
from Carolyn Harvey as she continues to add to her
point scoring total. She's got three points on the day.
She's up to one hundred and four for her career,
fifth all time for Badger defenseman seventeen oh two. In
the first period, feed into the slot in a shoulder
(50:27):
shrug save point blank. That one developed kind of out
of nowhere. It didn't seem like they were going to
be able to get to it, but they get the
shot on and Ava mcdaontin makes a hell of a stop.
With sixteen forty nine to go in this second period,
Casey O'Brien, now for the Badgers on offense, dumps it
down all the way behind the Black Bears net, picked
up there by Jaden Britt of the Black Bears and
(50:47):
moved ahead. Coming up on the charge are the Black
Bears moved to the right wing side dump and get
a change. Lady Potter pushed up against the wall trying
to dig that one off. Potter sends it all the
way up the wall, now back towards Kirstin Simms, her
backhanded pass is intercepted. Working towards the front of the net.
Backhand shot in the stop. Puck's still loose coming in
(51:07):
a swing and a drive is blocked by the defense.
That drive from alyssa rouble on the second chance opportunity
and Maine is buzzing a little bit here in the
first few minutes of this second period, they are managed
to hold the zone once more. Back on offense, carrying
that puck was I believe Brenna curl. She's not able
to get the shot to go as it comes to
the near side corner. Badger's rim it around to the
(51:29):
far side of their own zone. Kirsten Simms has it there.
Simms drops it off for Potter. Potter's got a little
bit of open ice to look at it. She sends
it toward the neutral zone. Puck works down into Badger
territory and it is stopped for an icing that one
went past everybody fifteen forty seven to go and the
Black Bears came out swinging in this period.
Speaker 2 (51:46):
Yeah, they're you know, they're making us pay here in
our own end if we're not going to have precise passing.
They keep it from breaking out of the zone and
give themselves more puck possession and opportunities eventually to shoot
it on.
Speaker 1 (51:58):
That Acy Hansen the freshman, will take the draw for
the Bears, but the Badgers win it. Vivian Jungles puts
that one into neutral ice, trying to stretch it ahead
to Kirsten Simms. Nice job in the middle of the
ice by Leila Edwards. She pushes it into the attacking
zone and the Badgers control it along the near wall.
Casey O'Brien down low trying to find Kelly Gorbtenko. Badgers
(52:20):
have shifted up their lines just a little bit on
the offensive side, that first and second line. All six
of those players they kind of like to combine and
recombine in different orders.
Speaker 2 (52:28):
Yeah, a lot of different combinations there. They all seem
to be okay.
Speaker 1 (52:32):
Fifteen to fifteen to go in the second period, Badgers
lead Ford to nothing. No scoring so far in the
second period, though Badger's got all four of their goals
in the first bucket center ice for the Black Bears,
and they'll just rifle one in to get a change.
Davia McNaughton stops it up and goes for the stretch
pass to Eden. Eden, in front of the scorer's table,
gains the zone on the right wing side. Tries to
tap it through the defense of Jadeen Britt, but Britty
(52:52):
able to stop it up and turn it the other
way for Lylah Shay cross eye. She finds Reagan Worm
Worm had a really nice opportunity on a break away
earlier in the first period. Badgers regain control in their
own zone. Eden finds Gorbtenko Badgers with a three on three.
Gorbtenko left wing, top of the circle, shot in a
save from lightning in the center ice. Cassie Hall bottom
of the near circle. Her shot rims wide to the
(53:14):
far side. Ava Murphy at the point down low for Gorbtenko.
Hall behind the net, drifting to the near side, back
beneath the net once more. O'Brien calling for it is Venusio.
She's hassled at the point, turns around, tries to work
her way down low. Gorbtenko turning a shot it's high
over the crossbar, takes the rear glass and here's Cassie
hall Eden beneath the net, tries to find Gorbitenko. Instead
(53:37):
skated away by the main Black Bears neutral ice and
they'll pick it up. Fourteen oh five to go. The
Badgers with a nice offensive pushed there there first to
the second period.
Speaker 2 (53:46):
Yeah we had we went a while there with no
shots on goal.
Speaker 1 (53:50):
Now Sarah was Nevitch on the ice for the Badgers
into the Black Bears territory, skates this one all the
way around point for Venusio and she has to drift
out of the zone. Waz Nevitch all the way back
to bed territory. Finds Carolyn Harvey back towards wats Nevitch,
so she comes up the right wing, gets a touch
past the defender and she'll pick it up beneath the net.
Sarah was Nevitch for the Badgers into the slot, a
swing and a miss. Harvey wanted it, but the defense
(54:12):
broke it up. Now, striding hard after this one is
the Badger's defender Vivian Jungles a shot and a save.
A shot in the puck is still loose. It's in
front of Avia McNaughton, oh Man, and they finally get
a whistle. McNaughton was spread eagle with her legs in
a v trying to keep that one out of the net.
She manages to do so, and they stopped the play
with thirteen twenty four to go in the period.
Speaker 2 (54:33):
Yeah, there was a series of about three saves there
by MacNaughton. As there was a scrum in front of
the net. You've got about five, six seven people in
the blue paint, and finally she's able to cover it up.
Prior to that little sequence, Vivian Jungles raced back to
make a nice defensive play to keep that from being
a one on zero two. That was good hustle by
(54:54):
Vivian Jungles.
Speaker 1 (54:55):
And you mentioned Jungles. She was whistled for holding at
the end of that play. And so we will get
it hour play for Maine when we come back. We're
going to take thirty seconds on am ten seventy the game.
Welcome back everyone. The Badgers will go onto the penalty kill.
With thirteen twenty four to go in the second period,
Vivian Jungles is called for holding. As coach Greenhall mentioned,
she backchecked aggressively got back into the play, but a
(55:17):
little bit too aggressively she gets called for the hold
and so the Badgers will start off on their second
penalty kill of the night. They killed off a Landey
Potter tripping penalty in the first period without so much
as a shot from Maine. Face off in the Badger
zone is won by Wisconsin, controlled by Landy Potter beneath
her own net. Potter gets it loose and gets it clear.
A nice job by Landy Potter to fire that one
(55:39):
down with a minute fifty on the power play, thirteen
thirteen to go in the second period, still four nothing Wisconsin.
Out here at the Harold Alfhon Sports Arena in Orno, Maine,
the University of Maine black Bear's home ice. Black Bears
bring it up on the right wing side. They enter
the zone, chip it past one defender, but Potter will
grab it in her own corner for Wisconsin and clear
it down once again. Landy Potter twice, now getting it
(56:01):
on her stick and firing it clear. And now here's
a two on one for the Badger short handed. The
pass to Eden is just broking up. Oh my goodness,
they were close. So Brian tried to find Eden and
they're still on the attack. O'Brien's got it at the
far hash marks works to the point and now she'll
come back to neutral ice minute twelve to go on
the power play, twelve thirty four to go in the
period for nothing Wisconsin here in Maine and man, they
(56:24):
were close.
Speaker 2 (56:24):
Yeah, I'm getting I'm getting greedy, but it's always fun
to get a shorty if you can.
Speaker 1 (56:28):
You know, shorthanded goals are. There's nothing like it for
a hockey team to build momentum and to break the
back of your opponents as well. Puck drifts back into
the Black Bear zone and the casey O'Brien tipped it
even further. Now she will curl off and go for
a change. With twelve ten to go in the period,
forty five seconds on the power play, Black Bears looking
to bring it back. They drop it down. They have
(56:49):
not gotten a shot on this powerplay opportunity either in
a nice job stepping in to poke that one forward.
I believe that was Landy Potter. Here's Leila Edwards in
the corner of the Bear zone. Edwards shielding the power away,
sends it up to the point for him of Venusio.
Venusio pushes it back down that near wall behind the
net where it'll be taken by Adriana vandalidt eleven forty
six to go in the period twenty seconds on the
(57:10):
power play, Black Bears enter the zone, dump it behind
the Badger net. Badger's rim it up the near side
wall stop there by Gracie Hanson of Maine. Hanson's pass
is held up at the point. Black Bears stay on attack.
Black Bears tried to feed one pass Carolyn Harvey couldn't
do it. Just four seconds on the power play center point,
Vandalid shot his block shot from the point and that
one is stopped. A nice shot off the stick of
(57:33):
Lily Fetch from the face off dot and the penley expires.
Both teams are full strength winding. A drive from the
point doesn't get through. Sarahwasnevitch's tripped on a breakaway and
that will be the call. Wasnevitch was going to have
a step on the defender. Vandalist, who had that great
play at the end of the power play, now gets
called for the trip and here we go. She takes
(57:53):
it away. Vandale is just one handed slacklaker. With the stick.
You could call it yep, you could call it a
slash or a trip. Either one. They do call it
a trip. And so the Badgers go right onto the
power play after killing off the penalty.
Speaker 2 (58:05):
Yeah, a nice momentum swing here. Let's see if we
can convert on this. With Gorbatenko taking the draw and
the offensive zone, the call.
Speaker 1 (58:15):
Is tripping, and as you said, Kelly, Goorbtenko will have
the face off. She wins it, and here's Lady Potter
at the center point. Potter drops it down low, a
shot from the faceoff dot, a save and a quick
whack from Garbatenko draws a little bit of a rebuke
from the main players. Lightning makes the stop and we'll
get another face off minute fifty two on the power play,
eleven minutes even in the period.
Speaker 2 (58:35):
I'm impressed with Lightning. I know we got four on
her here in the first period, but you know they weren't.
I don't know. I'm not being a typical goalie here
saying it's not her fault, but she's playing well, let's
just put it that way.
Speaker 1 (58:46):
She's getting a lot of abuse here. The Badgers were
heaping it on her in the first period. Off the
face off, the Bears are able to draw it out.
They get a one on one chance. Trying to get
that one forward was Mikaela Border. She's not able to
get the job. A great, great back check excuse me
by the Badgers, and here's Cassie Hall into the Slaughters
shot and it's wide on the left side of the cage.
Minute twenty nine on the power play. Ten thirty five
(59:09):
in the period, Badger's up four nothing and on a
power play after a tripping penalty against Vandale's shot from
the center point is wide. That one came from Lady Potter.
Puck comes to the far wall where Vivian Jungles will
grab for the Badgers. She's pushed hard against the wall.
The Black Bears try to clear it, Jungles blocks continues
to hold it in the corner, trying to hustle that
puck out of there. Was Finley McCarthy up to the
(59:29):
point for the Badgers and they retain control at the
faceoff dot drop down from McCarthy feet and a shot
and a score. A point Carthy threw to Gorba Tenko
on the back door. She drives it in another power
play goal for Wisconsin. It's five nothing Badgers.
Speaker 2 (59:45):
Just a gorgeous goal. A beautiful play originated there. McCarthy's
down low below the extended goal line, to the right
of the goaltender, and she threads the needle and Gourba
Tanko's right there in the blue paint or just outside
to bang it home for the fifth goal of the night.
I love it, oh Man. That was a pretty score.
Jungles to McCarthy, McCarthy to Gorbatenko, and the Badgers have
(01:00:10):
a powerplay score. They are two for two on the
power plays tonight. It's five nothing Wisconsin. They win the
draw it center ice was Nevitch right wing shot in
a pad saved from lightning. Was Nevich another change up
kind of shot that we saw Leila Edwards victimize them
with earlier, this time lightening equal to the task pucket
center ice. Here'sznevitch again, and she always looks like she's
(01:00:30):
at one hundred and ten percent of her throttle. Drops
the puck off for Picard and a glove save from lightning. Yeah,
Oz has got one speed, fast and hard. You know
whether it's a shot or her skating. And then one
other thing I got to comment on is is that
last shift there on the power play goal was just
a great example of a freshman stepping in. McCarthy's over there.
(01:00:51):
It's her first year in the WHA. She's playing like
a you know, a grizzly veteran, and she just patient
sees the ice boom, threads the ends up in a
power play goal. You know, you don't see a lot
of freshmen do stuff like that.
Speaker 1 (01:01:04):
She and Vivian Jungles gets the assist. Gorbatenko gets the
power play goal, and it's five nothing Badgers. With ten
minutes to play in the second period. We're going to
take a break and be back on Am ten seventy
the game. Welcome back everyone, zaxieyl Offer, Mark Greenhall with you.
The Badgers lead five to nothing after a powerplay score
from Kelly Gorbtenko. Just a beautiful play Vivian Jungles to
Finley McCarthy across to Gorbatenko for the score and it
(01:01:27):
is five nothing Wisconsin. The Badgers will take the face
off in the far side of the black Bear zone.
Casey O'Brien wins that draw on leyla Edwards controls it.
With nine thirty seven to play in the second period,
Kirsten Simms, working her way along the near wall, finds
Venusio center point cross ice Carolyn Harvey at the faceoff
dot Venusio one time shot is blocked into the corner
(01:01:50):
man sacrificing the body with Stephanie Jacob. Venusio has a
heavy shot there.
Speaker 2 (01:01:54):
You're that kidding?
Speaker 1 (01:01:55):
Jacob able to block it nine to nineteen to play
the pucks still in the black Bear zone, they're trying
to find a way out. Jacob does send this cross
ice and into the neutral zone. Now entering on the
left wing side are the black Bears feet across and
it goes all the way to the wall, where it's
picked up by Sam Morrison of Maine. At the point,
it'll be Leayla Edwards who takes it out of the zone.
Cross Ice passed from Kirsten Sims is intercepted in center ice.
(01:02:18):
Black Bears turn it the other way, send it over
for Lily Fetch at the faceoff dot Fetches pass through
center goes all the way to the far wall. Leila
Edward's now gathering a loose puck and she's got a
three on two developing here. As the Badgers rush up
the ice, counterattack from Wisconsin back to Edwards. She's got
sims across, takes the shot herself and pushes it just wide.
Speaker 2 (01:02:37):
Man, she's gonna bury that. Oh boy.
Speaker 1 (01:02:39):
She's right at the top of the crease and just
sends it a bit wide on the glove side. Now
working through traffic. Is excuse me, not Brennan Curle, but
is Adriana Vanderles who has called for that penalty. And
now we do have another penalty. This one's going to
go against Ava Murphy for holding. So with eight twenty
eight to go in the second period, the Badgers have
to go back on the penalty kill. Ava Murphy is
whistled for holding.
Speaker 2 (01:03:01):
I was glad to see in that previous rush up
to the ice Sah that Edwards did shoot the puck
on net though, you know, I mean, she's so unselfish
that she overpasses once in a while. I like to
see it coming off her stick. Your odds are pretty
good of it going in the net.
Speaker 1 (01:03:14):
She had a really good look there. She did have
sims across, But I agree with you, I think taking
the shot was the right thing there. It just went
off the toe and just a little bit wide.
Speaker 2 (01:03:21):
Yep.
Speaker 1 (01:03:21):
The Badgers back to the penalty kill. They have killed
off both their penalties in this game so far without
allowing much offense at all from Maine. On contrast, the
Badgers are two and zero on the power play, and
here they come short handed. It's lacy. Eden enters in
the center, moves to the right wing, face off out
a shot in a save from Lighting and Jade and
Britt provided the defensive pressure. But Eden with a killer
charge up the ice short handed.
Speaker 2 (01:03:43):
Yeas hard rist her from that right right wing above
the dot.
Speaker 1 (01:03:48):
Badgers will face it off on the near side of
the black Bear zone. Eden's still in the face off dot.
With a minute forty five to go on the power play,
puck drops black Bear's control, move it behind the nets,
still fighting for it, putting quite a bit of fur
checking pressure on a team with a man advantage, and
Eden nearly grabs a loose puck from behind the net.
They left it to get another player to carry it up.
(01:04:10):
Eden saw that it was free and nearly scrambled to
it and got it.
Speaker 2 (01:04:13):
Yeah, she's not allergic to work, is she? Look at
her goal?
Speaker 1 (01:04:16):
No? No, Indeed, Badgers put more pressure on. Here's Waznevitch.
That's someone you don't want four checking against you, speaking
of allergic to work. And here come the Black Bears
are finally able to get in the Badger zone. McNaughton
stops it up for the Badgers behind their own net.
Black Bears set up on offense at the point now
to the outer hash marks feed into the slot. It's
deflected toward McNaughton, who makes the stop. That one. I
(01:04:39):
don't even think was intended to go that way, but
it ended up coming right to her and Ava alert
and makes a good safe.
Speaker 2 (01:04:45):
I'm glad she covered it because they had somebody right
on the doorstep just outside the blue paint.
Speaker 1 (01:04:49):
There pushing that one with Sam Morrison, the sophomore forward,
and the Badgers will face it off in their own zone.
Minute six on the power play, seven thirty four to
go in the period. It's five nothing Wisconsin. Here in
the second mary An Picard wins the draw, gives it
to Harvey. Harvey high off the glass trying to clear
it out and it is out of play, hits the
safety netting. We'll get another face off with a minute
(01:05:09):
to go on the power play.
Speaker 2 (01:05:12):
Yeah, let's see what we can do here. We gotta
kill that thing off.
Speaker 1 (01:05:16):
Yet penalty against Ava Murphy at eleven thirty two in
the second period for holding. The Badgers are two for
two on the powerplay. Maine is zero for two on
the power play. Trying to convert here on their third
chance of the night with the man advantage, face off
comes into neutral ice, puck drops and the Badgers win
it into their own zone cross ice and they're able
(01:05:37):
to find Finley McCarthy putting the pressure on was Mary
Anne Picard. She and McCarthy still for checking here forty
five seconds to go in the power play, seven ten
to go in the period, black Bears bring it out
of their own zone, coming up the near side, enter
Badger' zone on the left wing edge. Badgers immediately strip
it away and it's Harvey behind the Wisconsin net taps
(01:05:59):
it lightly to the near wall. The Black Bears will
be able to pick it up there in the corner
for Maine trying to find an entry. Badger's set up
in their defensive formation cross ice, and nice job by
McCarthy to get a stick on it. We're seeing her
on the penalty kill. We don't always see her there
and she's looking good. Fetch takes a shot and it
is nice and cleanly blocked by ma Venusio and then
(01:06:21):
deflected into the safety netting. Venusio got those legs together,
didn't let it get through to McNaughton.
Speaker 2 (01:06:25):
Yeah, they're doing a real nice job. That unit up
killing the penalty off here. I hope we can continue
to do so for another twelve seconds, as we have
a defensive zone face off to the right of Ava
coming up here.
Speaker 1 (01:06:35):
Six point forty to go in this second period, it
is five nothing Wisconsin.
Speaker 2 (01:06:39):
I'm betting on Obi here. She's going to take the draw.
We'll see if she wins it.
Speaker 1 (01:06:43):
Yep. I think the Badger's coaching staff is thinking, let's
get on offense, let's transition out of this. They've got
Leila Edwards and Casey O'Brien out there. The Black Bears
do win the draw, control it at the outer hashmarks
circling around his border. She sends a shot in and
it's stopped easily by McNaughton. Two seconds to go on
the power play. Another at least so far, very successful
kill for Wisconsin.
Speaker 2 (01:07:04):
Yep. Don't do anything foolish, year, do the smart thing.
Just get it up and out of the zone if
you can.
Speaker 1 (01:07:10):
They've got a split screen with Avi Murphy. She's ready
to get out. Both teams are full strength as the
penalty expires, and the Badgers have killed off three penalties
successfully so far in this game. Six point twenty one
to play in the second period, the Badgers lead five
to nothing over the hosting main Black Bears. They are
called for icing as they transition out of the penalty
kill and we'll head back to the Wisconsin zone for
a face off.
Speaker 2 (01:07:36):
Yeah, back at full strength here, so let's get some
momentum and up ice and maybe an offensive rush.
Speaker 1 (01:07:43):
Face off will come on the far side of the
Badger's zone. O'Brien Sims and jungles out there. Edward's also
on the ice along with Lady Potter, and Potter does
control it. She finds Edwards on the near side of
the Badgers get going on the rush. Here they come
two on one O'Brien sims far side score man Kirsten
(01:08:04):
Sims rips it from the hash marks. What a shot,
and the Badgers just as quickly as they kill the
penalty off, getting even strength goal. It's six nothing.
Speaker 2 (01:08:12):
Some nice passing preceded that shot, but then it ends
up on sims stick. As she's approaching the left dot.
She freezes the goalie. She's a right hander and she
rips up gun of a four hand wrister off the
lot and beats the goalie on the long short side.
Speaker 1 (01:08:29):
She did she comes to she goes a six hole
on that one between the blocker and the pad. What
a score from Kirsten Sims, great goal. She does a
great job for the Badgers. That's the second point of
the game for Casey O'Brien, the second point of the
game for the Kirsten Sims, and the third point of
the game for Leyla Edwards. Six nothing Wisconsin with five
(01:08:49):
point forty five to go in the second period, the
Black Bears in the Badger zone have it taken away.
Harvey taps it ahead and now here comes Cassie Hall
two on one with Lacy Eden. Halls feeds to eaton.
They're shotting us save Eden just ran out of space.
She wasn't able to loft that one as nuts as
she wanted. But what a counter attack from the Badgers.
Speaker 2 (01:09:07):
That was a great play, a nice little shot on
net and their goalie. You know, lightning anticipates well, slides
over to make the save. But a real nice play there.
Speaker 1 (01:09:17):
They're going to take a break, and so we are
listening to Badger Hockey on Am ten seventy of the game.
Welcome back everyone. The Badgers continue to pour it on
here in the second period. It is six nothing Wisconsin
as we come back from the media timeout. Five point
thirty five to play in the period, we are seeing
the Badgers do exactly what they love to do. The
F one, F two, F three, the classic entry, the
(01:09:39):
great passing across. They're forcing the goalie to move pipe
to pipe and that's giving them open spaces to look at.
Speaker 2 (01:09:45):
Yeah, we're aggressively for checking. We're back checking. Our special
teams are delivering the mail. You know, it's pretty complete
effort so far. Today. When Ava gets tested, she answers
the bell. So I'm liking what I see.
Speaker 1 (01:09:58):
The third line for the Badger of picard enright and
was Nevitch will take the draw. The Black Bears do
win it, but a nice block at the blue line
keeps it in the black Bear zone. Five twenty seven
to go in the period. The puck at the top
of the near circle. Now they're able to find was Nevitch.
Wasnevitch tries a shot and it's blocked from the far wall.
She continues to fight for it though, and now Picard
will have it on that near side. With five point
(01:10:19):
fifteen to play in the second period, Zilla shout there
as well, feed to the opposite side. That one's broken
up by Sophia Johnson of the Black Bears. Held at
the point by we was Nevitch. She is everywhere on
the ice, face off dot a shot in a pad
save and getting the glove on is Lightening was Nevitch
had a good look there, didn't quite elevate it as
much as she wanted, and Lightening makes the stop.
Speaker 2 (01:10:39):
Great shot, and Lightning really had to be ready and
moved a little bit louterly got a left pad on
it on a real hard wrist shot.
Speaker 1 (01:10:46):
Kila Lightning has been under attack so far today.
Speaker 2 (01:10:50):
Yeah, she's earning her bread and butter today, isn't she?
Speaker 1 (01:10:53):
She has She's faced twenty six shots on goal. But
let's give credit to Meine's offense. They've had twenty shots
on goals so far in this game. Even though it
feel like the ice has been tilted toward Wisconsin that's
thirteen shots in this period for Maine, fourteen for the Badgers.
Two on one developing for Maine, speaking of a quick
shot and a quick save, and now we're fourteen shots
to fourteen. It does not feel that way, but Maine
(01:11:14):
has generated some offense, as you noted, though. Ava McNaughton
has been very good in the net for the Badgers.
Speaker 2 (01:11:19):
That's a nice one there. They've got a two on one.
Basically Murphy defended as well as she could. Ava makes
a save. She doesn't leave a rebound, and that's huge
because that person coming down the slot is going to
bang it in for a second chance there if you
don't hang on tight.
Speaker 1 (01:11:33):
That shot from Vandalist was stopped nicely by Ava McNaughton.
Boy one of the Badger's players goes head over heels
as she trips down there. I believe that was bella vasser,
but she's able to get back up as the puck
is in the main zone. Badgers at the blue line
not able to hold it, and here comes Maine on
an aggressive push forward into the Badger territory. A shot
and it's too high. Had a good look, but ends
(01:11:54):
up sailing over the top of the net comes back
the other way. Boy, a huge collision at the blue
line that time. That was between Hannah Halverson and Jaden Britt.
I'm surprised that wasn't called something, but we continue to
play on. Halverson recovers the puck in main territory and
now Finlay McCarthy on that freshman line has it in
the near corner. Four h five to play in the
(01:12:15):
second period, six nothing Wisconsin. As they are all over
the Black Bears today on the offensive side, puck's still
trapped in the corner, working it out of the near
wall and at the point able to hold it as
Lady Potter, she puts it to the far corner, this
time Halverson trying to battle there against Sam Mortison of
the Black Bears. Leyla Edwards takes it away feed toward
Casey O'Brien. She's got the face off dot back to
(01:12:37):
Edwards center point now for Potter thought about a shot,
takes a shot, a nice blocker save that time by lightning,
puck comes back towards her and the Bears will skate
it out three point thirty two to play, six nothing Wisconsin.
In the second period, Sam Morrison taps it into the
Badger zone where it's gathered up by Kirsten Sims of Wisconsin.
Sims with two points today, a goal and an assist,
(01:12:58):
three twenty to go in the pier. Badger's still trying
to work out of their zone. Nice job by Layla Edwards.
She fires cross ice and it's a two on one
for Wisconsin. Sims at the hash marks takes a shot
and I believe she scores. We didn't get much of
a reaction from the referee or the or the players,
and she did score. Kirsten Sims.
Speaker 2 (01:13:18):
The ref come around. He kind of subtly indicated, but
I didn't tell if he was, you know, meaning it's
going to be a whistle, or if it's a goal,
and he he or she meant it was a goal.
Speaker 1 (01:13:27):
So well, there we are. Another goal by Kirsten Sims.
Sorry for the good confusion everyone. It's Laila Edwards with
the assists, Kirsten Sims with the goal. It's seven nothing
Wisconsin on a bit of a tricky score. That's that's
part of the problem for us calling it in this way.
So apologies for the lack of emotion. How about Kirsten Sims.
Speaker 2 (01:13:47):
Yeah, it wasn't for anything. There's act I promise, but
I couldn't. I couldn't tell if that was a goal
or not.
Speaker 1 (01:13:53):
Yep. Two forty nine to go. The Badger's counterattacking once again,
Eden right in the center. She gets it forward Cassie Hall,
it tumbles over her stick. She can't get the shot away.
Zillish moves it across Badger's at the top of the circle.
Is shot is wide and ends up behind the net.
Two thirty to play, seven nothing Wisconsin. After the Kirston
Sims goals, Zillish again puts it down into the corner
(01:14:14):
for Wisconsin. Drop it behind the net. It's Lacy Eden.
She goes to the corner, sends towards Gorbtenko. Now center
point for Wisconsin. They'll set up there once more, working
her way around as Vivian jungles behind the net for Gorbtenko.
Let it go past in its Cassie Hall on the
near wall back the other way, trying to find Gorbtenko
hustling is Brenneck curle to deny the opportunity. Puck rims
(01:14:34):
to the near side. Two six to play in the
second period, Badger's in the zone attacking that one bangs
off the head of Mikayla Zilich. She's able to keep
it in the zone, though, and now here's Lacy Eden
to the top of the fire circle, curls back center
point over across to Zillage. Zillis's shot is deflected away
off the stick of Danielle Brunette and ends up to
the far wall. The Bears can't clear it, though, nice
tow drag by Lacy Eden to hold the zone. Now
(01:14:56):
forced to retreat into neutral ice, Vivian jungles along the
near one, hassled by Shay of Maine. One thirty eight
to play in the second period. Seven nothing Wisconsin, as
they have tallied three here in the second four in
the first in their own zone. Here comes Sarahwasnevitch, a
tap ahead and hustling forward as Cassie Hall, she gets
(01:15:18):
it back towards Waznevitch. It's out of her reach though,
and comes towards lightnin who I think will wisely freeze
it down and let Maine get some new skaters.
Speaker 2 (01:15:24):
Yeah, she wants her team to settle down or reset here.
With about a minute twenty left in the second period,
boy oh boy, who we got here? Picard in the
center circle. That wins a draw.
Speaker 1 (01:15:39):
That third line does win it for the Badgers. The
puck comes out to the neutral zone and striding after
it is Carolyn Harvey. Harvey able to play with the
skate and gets it to herself, taps it along to
her deep partner.
Speaker 2 (01:15:51):
Yeah. Not many people gonna beat her to the puck,
are they?
Speaker 1 (01:15:54):
Nope, And that's Bickett. That's the first action we're seeing
from Bickett. We mentioned her Grace Bickett getting her first
game action today, big at working the puck along the
near side wall. Maine has it in the Badger zone,
fire it down in the corner and beneath the net.
Fifty seconds to play in this second period, and the
Badger's on the charge coming out of the zone. Wasnevitch
a nice job to give a little touch and tap
(01:16:15):
it into the zone, save the icing. She picks it
up at the rear wall and continues to battle for it,
fighting for it is clear and right as well as
she assists. Wasnevitch still behind the net, still fighting for it?
Three different Bears are on the scene along with all
three forwards on this third line, Picard and Right Andsnevitch.
They poke it out, the Bears tap to the far wall,
Harvey sends it back down Forsnevitch beneath the goal line.
(01:16:37):
Wasnevich has it on her stick, trying to break it free.
Seventeen seconds to go, comes towards Picard behind the net,
up the far wall, and the Bears over skate. They've
got another opportunity for the Badgers as they're changing. Nine
seconds to go behind her own net for the Bears
as they look to break something free. Here there's a
delayed penalty coming as the goalie skates off, and now
(01:16:58):
we'll get the call interfering against the Badgers. I didn't
see who. It's Marianne Picard. So with one point six
seconds to go, Marianne Picard has whistled for interference. We
saw lighting and booking it off the ice. That's what
clued us into the penalty. So we'll have one point
six seconds of a power play in this period, and
then a minute fifty eight of a power play to
(01:17:20):
start the third period. The Badgers will have to kill
off their fourth penalty of the night.
Speaker 2 (01:17:24):
You know, this penalty going into the next period might
change things. I was I'm just wondering if coach Johnson's
toying with the idea of maybe putting in a different
goaltender in the third with the seven and nothing lead
right now.
Speaker 1 (01:17:36):
You wonder if maybe, yeah, they'll kill off the penalty
and then make the change.
Speaker 2 (01:17:39):
Perhaps yeah, Well, we'll see what happens if he's gonna
get some time for Kloy Baker or Quinn Coons here.
Speaker 1 (01:17:47):
And the Badgers do win the face off and they
end the period there, So a very successful second period
for the Badgers. They add three more, they lead seven
to nothing as we head into the second intermission. We're
going to take a break. We'll be back with the
intermission show. You're listening to women's hockey from the Wisconsin
Badgers on AM ten seventy the game. Welcome back everyone
(01:18:07):
to the intermission show. The Badgers leads seven to nothing
after the second period second period, scoring a power play
goal from Kelly Gorbatanco at nine to fifty two in
Those assists came from Finley McCarthy as well as from
excuse me, Vivian Jungles just a beautiful play on that goal.
And then two even strength goals, both from Kirsten Sims.
The first one at thirteen fifty three in the period,
(01:18:28):
assisted by Casey O'Brien and Leila Edwards. The second at
sixteen to fifty in the period, and I did not
really recognize that it was a goal straight away that
was also assisted by Edwards. So coach now Edwards with
four points on the game, a goal and three assists,
Sims with two goals and assist, Harvey with two goals
and assists, and O'Brien with two assists. Four multi point
(01:18:50):
games for the Badgers already and we still have twenty
minutes of hockey to go.
Speaker 2 (01:18:55):
Yeah, they came to play obviously today. And another thing
I like seeing is some of these players that you know,
you don't see on the ice reel off and are
getting an opportunity to play today as well, you know,
like bass are a little more. Zillis Bickett we saw
out there and she did a nice job on defense there.
So it's just it's good to see everybody getting in
(01:19:15):
the game and everybody contributing, especially these big outputs by
you know, some of those forwards that you mentioned off
An Harvey all the points are getting today.
Speaker 1 (01:19:24):
It's great to see everyone participating, and especially the defenseman,
as you mentioned, and right now we've got an interview
with head coach Molly Angstrom of the main black Bear.
She was a Badger defenseman when she played here in
two thousand and one to two thousand and five. She's
got some great thoughts for you. Let's listen to her
now and then we'll be back on the intermission show.
Welcome back, everyone' zaxiel Off and Mark Greenhall with you
in the intermission show. Great to have coach Angstraman. It
(01:19:45):
was really nice of her to make the time for
us on Thanksgiving to do that interview. Unfortunately, her team
is struggling a little bit in this game seven to
nothing in favor of Wisconsin. They get three goals in
that second period and coach you and I were talking
about it earlier in the intermission show. The Badgers are
doing exactly what they want to do in this game
and it's leading to a lot of scoring.
Speaker 2 (01:20:05):
Yeah, we're we're coming put together a pretty good game
today in every phase of it. And you know, Molly,
if people were listening to the interview between periods here,
she was saying how she wanted to have a number
host and number one team and so have her players
first hand, see what it takes, see what it looks like.
(01:20:26):
And uh, you know, I think Mark's done a lot
to grow the game that way and scheduled games against
teams like this. I remember when we played Syracuse when
they first kind of got their program rolling or we're
upgrading it, and we hosted them at the Coal Center
and and then I saw what Syracuse went on to
become as a as a women's program, and and that's
that's a big part of this, you know, growing the game,
(01:20:47):
and this is one of the steps that you have
to take. And I can guarantee you regardless of the
outcome of today or tomorrow's game, and her program will advance,
you know, they'll make a leap forward in the right
direction as far as becoming a stronger program.
Speaker 1 (01:21:02):
I completely agree. And one of the things that I
think is exciting about being involved in women's hockey right
now is that the game is growing. As you said,
so many more young girls are getting involved in hockey
at a young age, such that the pipeline of talent
is just growing exponentially, and teams right now that are
having trouble recruiting, you know, a full team aren't able
(01:21:24):
to find the talent they want. I think, you know,
in a few years time, there's going to be so
much more talent coming out as there are so many
dedicated high school hockey teams where that that was pretty
rare and not all that long ago.
Speaker 2 (01:21:35):
No, you're absolutely right, Zach. This is my eighteenth year
in the program here, and just the evolution in the
women's game overall is just incredible. It's exponential. There's things
just after ten years, it was a lot different than
it was the first few years that I was there,
and now since the ten year mark is you know,
(01:21:58):
even different than that, and it continues to evolve. You know,
every player's got a good goaltender now at least one,
some have two. You've got the games faster, everybody's faster
skating wise, they can shoot with today's training and today's sticks.
It's just really neat to see the evolution of the game.
Speaker 1 (01:22:18):
As we get ready for the third period, we look
at the stats here. The Badgers did pull away from
Maine a little bit in that one thirty one shots
on goal for Wisconsin just twenty one for Maine. Although
that's more than I thought they had to be. Frank
the Badgers, though, really pulling away in the faceoff department.
As you recall from the first period, it was fifteen
to thirteen in favor of Wisconsin. After two, so both
of those combined, it's thirty two to eighteen in favor
(01:22:38):
of Wisconsin. They were winning almost every faceoff in that
period and that made life very hard on the Black Bears.
Speaker 2 (01:22:43):
Yeah, it's an important phase of the game. It just
allows you an advantage on puck possession, and if you
can have more of it than the opponent, than the
odds come in your favor a little bit more.
Speaker 1 (01:22:53):
The Badgers will start on the penalty kill as you
called for interference was Maryanne Picard at the very end
of the period, which is one point six seconds to
go in the second, so she will start in the
box to begin the third period, very nearly a full
two minutes of a power play for the Bears. But
the Badgers do win the initial face off and taking
it behind her own net is Caroline Harvey. Harvey then
rifles one down to clear it out. Carolyn Harvey one
(01:23:16):
of the most sure handed defensemen ever. We think about
her in the offensive context because she does so much
on that end, but she's an outstanding defensive player as well.
Speaker 2 (01:23:24):
Yes she is.
Speaker 1 (01:23:25):
Minute thirty six to go on the powerplay, the Badger's
not get back into neutral ice and the Black Bears
will try to set it up. There can't whistle it
past the defense of who else but Carolyn Harvey. Harvey
taps and here's a potential two on one for Case O'Brien.
Backcheck gets through. She feeds it towards Lacey Eden. Eden
not able to turn on it, but she does track
it down towards the blue line and finds Carolyn Harvey
(01:23:45):
Harvey on the far side of the neutral zone, back
towards Case O'Brien and now O'Brien on the left wing
side that the outer hashmark stops up, looks for a play.
Minute eight to go on the power play, and the
Badgers have had possession of the puck for the entire
power play. Nineteen oh five to go in the period
Badrew's up seven to nothing. Here comes O'Brien trying to
skate through two different Black Bears, and that puck is
finally taken away by Kendall Sunby of Maine as they
(01:24:08):
bring it up through neutral ice first time for the
Black Bears getting the puck into the Badger zone on
their own initiative. They control on the far side, but
now it's stripped away by the Badgers once or more
that one loose in front. A quick shot and a
save by McNaughton. Boy that pluck deflected off of Ava
Murphy ended up right in front of the net. What
a job by McNaughton to react and make the stop.
Speaker 2 (01:24:29):
Yeah, point blank save right there in the crease.
Speaker 1 (01:24:32):
Thirty seconds to go on the power play, eighteen twenty
eight to play in the period seven to nothing Wisconsin.
Out here in Maine, the Black Bears try for one
last offensive push, swinging over the top and missing. That
one was Adriana Vandalist and the Badgers put it back
into center ice. With fourteen seconds to go on the
power play, black Bear's control try for a long stretch pass.
(01:24:53):
It is not complete and it will end up behind
the net. Ava McNaughton will rim it around to the
near side of the Badger zone. Just three seconds to
go on the power play. As we get the split
screen shot of Mary and Picard, she exits the box
and we are back to full strength. A shot from
the outer hashmarks is saved by Mary excuse me by
Ava McNaught and Leela Shay put that one in for
the Black Bears. The Badgers hustle down to try and
wave off an icing they cannot do it and so
(01:25:14):
we'll take the face off back in their zone. Another
successful penalty kill for Wisconsin tonight.
Speaker 2 (01:25:19):
Yeah, they really got the job done. Not only did
we kill that off, I don't know how many shots
they had, not too many. We had puck possession for
a good chunk of that two minute span.
Speaker 1 (01:25:28):
Just one shot. As I checked my stat screen here
for the Black Bears during that.
Speaker 2 (01:25:33):
Power play, it was a point blank.
Speaker 1 (01:25:35):
It was very close.
Speaker 2 (01:25:37):
It was very close paint.
Speaker 1 (01:25:38):
They nearly capitalized on a Badger turnover, but the Badgers
keep the sheet clean thanks to Ava McNaughton. It is
seven nothing Wisconsin. As the face off occurs in their zone,
Puck behind the net. Lady Potter has it for the
Badgers up along the far wall, trying to clear this
one out as Leila Edwards, she goes cross ice and
is able to find Avia Murphew comes in left wing side,
a shot is too tall over the crossbar into the
(01:26:01):
back glass. Seventeen thirty to play in the third and
final period. Banger's up seven to nothing on the main
Black Bears. Now it's Claire Enwright tracking that one down,
tries to feed Leyla edwards. It goes along the far
wall all the way to the point where they'll be
held by Venusio. Back towards Enright working on that far wall,
still of the main zone, glove down by the Badger's
(01:26:23):
quick shot turning on that puck was I believe Claire
Enwright it was. She had a nice shot from the slot.
Now that one's jam by Venusio and up out of play.
How about Claire en right there and.
Speaker 2 (01:26:32):
Of a Spinnerama, you know, she was almost on her
knees even, but she just spun around about one hundred
and eighty degrees and ripped a nice shot on net.
Claire Enwright's the play's never over, right, Not for that.
Speaker 1 (01:26:42):
Third line, that's for sure. Picard Enright and Waznevitch working
hard face off in the neutral zone is controlled by
the main Black Bears. Move it through center ice and
tap it into the Banger's territory. Comes behind the net
trying to grab it. There's Venusio still out on the
ice for Wisconsin up to Gorba Tenko near wall still
in the Wisconsin zon with sixteen fifty to play in
the game, Badgers leads seven to nothing. Nice little move
(01:27:05):
there by Lacy Eden to send it all the way
into the near corner of the Black Bear zone, where
it's picked up by Jamie Grinder of the main lost
track of the puck briefly, but it does come out
to neutral ice. The Bears, though, have it taken away
by Kelly Gorbateenko, who enters on the left wing edge.
Gorbitenko skating backwards trying to look for a pass as
she's hassled by the defensive Maine with sixteen twenty five
(01:27:25):
to play in the game, gathered by Sam Morrison of
the Black Bears. Her cross ice effort does enter the
Badger zone, but Venusio grabs it away. Nice defense by
him of Venusio, and now at two on two for
the Badgers, potentially a three on two Gorbtenko left wing
with Eden in the middle. Gorbatenko swings and missus following
was Cassie Hall she couldn't get a shot on and
now the Black Bears on the rush the other way.
(01:27:46):
Jamie Grinder takes a shot from the blue line that's
well wide, comes to the far wall, fram of Venusio
up ahead to Eden as they get it out of
neutral ice, and here's Cassie Hall Hall one on four.
That's not going to stop her. She continues to fight,
tries a shot from the Hashmarks, it doesn't get through.
Black Bears reverse it. McNaughton takes it out of her
cage and sends it into the neutral zone, forcing Maine
(01:28:08):
to regroup up on that near sidewall. That time for
alyss Aruble, they're leading scorer. She's forced back into neutral
ice with fifteen thirty to play, and we'll get a
stoppage here. Seven to nothing Wisconsin in the third period.
Speaker 2 (01:28:22):
You know, I like when Ava McNaughton sends the puck
up when she has an opportunity to do so. It
doesn't do it foolishly, but you know, you're the last
line of defense. You're also the first line of offense,
you know, and it changes the opponing. Opposing team's for check.
Speaker 1 (01:28:36):
Freshman line out there for the Badgers, McCarthy and Vasser
and Halverson on the forward line. Zillish out there on defense,
I believe, also with Emma Venusio and Zillish has it
behind the Badger neet fifteen to eighteen to play in
the third period seven nothing Wisconsin out here in Maine
taking on the University of Maine Black Bears. Black Bears
turned the other way. Getting it into the zone is
(01:28:58):
lily fetched. The sophomore Ava McNaught lose his control and
we have a hand up for a delayed penalty is
coming up against the Black Bears. McNaughton heads to the
bench as McCarthy brings it forward in through the neutral
zone and into the Bear's territory. That one is stopped
up and we will get the whistle a penalty against
Adriana Vanderleas for tripping, and the Badgers will go on
the power play. They are already two for two on
the day.
Speaker 2 (01:29:19):
Yeah, let's see if we can convert on a third one.
I'm getting a little greedy there, but we'll see what happens.
Speaker 1 (01:29:24):
You certainly wouldn't complain about yet another goal tripping the
call against Adriana Vanderleist. We'll see what happens. Oh, and
she unintentionally but she footsloos and actually it is not
even McNaughton, as you had mentioned that is quin Coons. Yeah,
they're in nets, so quin Coon's the victim of the penalty.
The Badgers go to the power play with fourteen fifty
seven to go in the period the face off in
the black Bear zone controlled by Wisconsin, and she.
Speaker 2 (01:29:47):
Came in after the we killed off that penalty.
Speaker 1 (01:29:49):
I think you're right because I recall seeing McNaughton and
here come the Badgers haul a shot deflected and Lightning
has to make a quick save. Gorbatenko behind the net,
back towards Hall. It's deflected to the sidewall and we'll
come now to the center ice for Landy Potter back
to Hall as she works her way in feeds to Gorbatenko,
givin go a shot in a safe Jungles a shot
and it's covered up by Lightning. The Badger's attacking on
(01:30:11):
this powerplay opportunity.
Speaker 2 (01:30:13):
Nice action right around the net here.
Speaker 1 (01:30:15):
I like that.
Speaker 2 (01:30:16):
Pucks to the net, people to the net.
Speaker 1 (01:30:19):
Everyone getting involved here. Hall feeds to Gorbatenko, what a
give and go. It bangs off of McCarthy and doesn't
get through Jungles nearly put it in lighten and had
to get over quick face off near side of the
bear zone. Badgers win the draw, working with that puck,
feeding it to Waznevitch. She's at the near point, drops
down for Marianne Picard. Picard whistled for a penalty a
(01:30:40):
moment ago. Now back on the ice for the power play.
Venusio at the point, cross ice, Murphy across now to
Picar on top of the circle. Shot is blocked, comes
to the center point, held by Murphy. Murphy to Venusio
top of the circle. One time. Shot is blocked by
the Bears and they clear it. Eye out fourteen oh
(01:31:01):
one to go in this game. The Badger is still
on the power play and circling and speeding forward is
Maryanne Picard right wing edge as she gains the zone
to the outer hash marks now behind the net, skating
with it very cleanly. Murphy at the near point center point.
Now Murphy thought about a shot, settles it down Venusio
top of the circle. Back to Murphy wants more. With
(01:31:21):
thirteen forty to play in the game, into the low slot,
shot is blocked, regathered by Waznevitch. She can't quite settle
it off the stick though, and it is cleared by
the Black Bears. Thirteen thirty to play in the third period.
I apologize I don't have the power play time on
my screen, but we'll let you know as soon as
the teams are even strength. The Badgers are still on
(01:31:42):
the man advantage. Another clearing attempt by the main Black
Bears comes to the net. Koon settles it down and
Eva Murphy will have it for Wisconsin. Leyla Edward's out
there now along with Casey O'Brien. O'Brien left wing side,
puts it around the edge, trying to rim it to
Kirsten Simms in the corner. Let's it go for Edwards
to the point for Venusio. They work it down, but
(01:32:03):
the Black Bears subtle it and clear it. It's Kendall Sunby. No,
she can't get it cleared, and it's Edwards at the
point cross ice. Here's O'Brien at the face off dot
back to Harvey in the center point. Harvey working her
way around now backhands this one down towards Edwards behind
the net. It'll be grabbed instead by Kendall Sunby. She
can't get it clear and on the near side it's
Kirsten Simms point for Harvey at the center outside jungles,
(01:32:27):
a shot and a pad saved from lightning up to Harvey,
though held at the near point. Once again, cross ice
to her opposite d partner. Wind drive that time from
Bickett and a glove save. What a slapper from Grace Bickett.
Speaker 2 (01:32:40):
Yeah. Nice to see her out there and playing with
a little conference. This is a first contest I think
she's been in. If I'm not mistaken.
Speaker 1 (01:32:46):
They're taking a time out, and so will we. You're
listening to Wisconsin Badger Women's Hockey on AM ten seventy
the game. Welcome back everyone. The Badger's leads seven to
nothing over the Main Black Bears in the third and
final period twelve twenty four to go in this game,
the Badgers successfully kill off off a tripping penalty that
was assessed and they are now on the attack. It'll
be a face off in the far side of the
(01:33:08):
main Black Bears zone. Face off is one by the
Black Bears. They move it behind their own net, bring
it up to the near side wall. Lady Potter can't
quite hold it at the blue line, but she's able
to tap it back and they hold the zone with
Mikhayla Zilich move it back down behind the black Bear's net,
rim it hard to the near side. Hannah Halverson is there,
can't hold it again and it leaks into center ice.
(01:33:32):
Potter pushing in front of the black Bear's net. Maine
picks it up there and moves it back into the center.
Now striving forward trying to get a shot on it
goes wide to the cage. Quinn Coons will wisely cover
it up that shot covering from coming from Excuse me e,
Lilah Shay. She's one of six kids, all of whom
play hockey. I feel bad for the wallets of her parents.
Speaker 2 (01:33:51):
Oh wow, hopefully he's making some big cake, because that's
no cheap hobby. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:33:55):
Absolutely, As I am learning, I have a four year old,
she grows out of her clothes fast. Growing out of
hockey gear is a much more expensive proposition. Seven to nothing,
badgers face off in the far side of their own zone.
Comes behind the net and the Bears tap it toward
the near wall. Badger's attack there. It's Cassie Hall that
comes up with the loose puck, sending it forward into
(01:34:16):
neutral ice. Gorbatenko able to leave it for Eden. Eden's
got a little space on the left wing enters the zone.
Shot is just wide. She hadn't open top of the
corner to look at, but pushed it just a bit
past the pipe. Haul back at the Badger blue line
whips over the top and now the Bears try to
turn it the other direction. Nice job to step in
though and not allow that is Ava Murphy. Murphy pushes
(01:34:36):
it into the zone. Black Bears coming up the near
side wall of their own territory. Eleven seventeen to play
in the game, seven nothing, Badgers four goals in the
first period, three in the second the tail of the
tape for Wisconsin. Murphy of Maine, behind her own net,
sends the puck along that near wall and gets it
out into neutral ice, where it's poked and grabbed by
Eva Murphy. Cassie Hall tries to send one across, intercepted
(01:35:01):
by the Black Bears and back into neutral ice. Bear's
coming forward, this time trying to find a look a
quick shot in a nice pad saved from Quincun's on
a low angle drive, She's able to get some action
here get a save. Here comes Lacey Eden as she
sings it off the wall. Tried to get it to
Gorbatenko on an angled pass off the rear wall, but
(01:35:21):
they ran out of space at the point m of
Venusio for Wisconsin. Venusio skating around, Murphy calls for it
at the center point. She's got it. Feed down low,
trying to get the tip in. Doesn't go but the
Badger's control. Cassie Hall high slot back to Venusio at
the point and now down low for Waznevitch as the
Badgers get a change ten eighteen to play in the
third and final period. Seven nothing Wisconsin. Out here in
(01:35:45):
Maine against the Black Bears. Somebody lost a glove that's
on the ice. A stick is on the ice as well,
equipment hitting the ground as Carolyn Harvey flips one across
him of Venusio. Venusio, now working beneath the net, sends
one over for Picard. Picard circles around towards the high
slot faceoff dot far side.
Speaker 2 (01:36:03):
Score.
Speaker 1 (01:36:04):
Mary Anne Picard goes all the way around around the
world on the entire zone and makes a score.
Speaker 2 (01:36:12):
Yeah, she was really determined. She's a right hander. She
basically circled almost like behind the goal, came up above
the circles and got to the toward the right dot
and let her rip.
Speaker 1 (01:36:22):
What a job, ow, nice job to go longside past
the blocker of lightning. That's the eighth goal. And I'm
sorry it's lightning is out and they have replaced her
with Madison Ryan, the freshman from Corona, California. So the
Badgers get a score. It's eight nothing here Wisconsin. Picard
unassisted on that goal. She and Wasnevitch, two of the
(01:36:43):
third line players, both have on assisted goals in this game,
the first of the game from Wasnevitch. The latest of
the game from Marianne Picard, nine shot. It was gorgeous
a nine thirty two to go in this third and
final period, eight nothing Wisconsin. As they control it in
neutral ice, Lady Potter law of a nice entry pass
in to find Casey O'Brien. O'Brien working with it at
(01:37:03):
the outer hashmarks back to Potter top of the near circle.
Shot and a stop by Madison Ryan pushed it to
the near corner up along that near wall. Potter still
fighting for it along with Leila Edwards. Potter goes cross
ice to the opposite point. A shot there has blocked
a nice little shin block that time by Kendall Sunby
and the Badgers will track it down back in their
own zone. Potter I head to O'Brien along the near
(01:37:26):
side wall back towards Potter. She retreats into Badger territory.
With eight fifty six to play in the game, eight
nothing Wisconsin after the score unassisted by Marianne Picard, nice
little drop pass and a quick shot off the backhand
of Courtney Colarulo. Quinn coons though with a good glove save.
Speaker 2 (01:37:45):
Yeah, it was good to see by that that shot
by Picard is still vivid in my mind's eye here
as she was traveling to her right and she fired
at cross Green, making the goalie slide to her left
and beat her on her on her right. So that
was a great shot.
Speaker 1 (01:38:00):
Card the only one to score in this third period.
We're going to take a short break and be back
you listening to AM ten seventy the game. Welcome back, everybody.
It is eight nothing Wisconsin in the third and final
period of this game, as they travel on the road
to visit the University of Maine, Black Bears eight forty
six to play in the third and final period. Finley
McCarthy wins the draw and the Badger zone after the
(01:38:21):
media timeout and Wisconsin will control. Hannah Halverson in her
own territory, swings over the top and loses it toward
Quinn Coon. She's able to gather it up before the
Black Bears can jump on it. What a nice backhanded
pass to spring Halverson. Loose two on two Halverson right
wing toe drag shot and a save. Oh my word,
what a play from Hannah Halverson. What a stop by
(01:38:42):
Matt said Ryan.
Speaker 2 (01:38:43):
She made. Halverson made it look easy as she tow
dragged and stick handled past that defender who really had
the angle on her and everything, and she got a
high quality shot off and the goalie gloved it.
Speaker 1 (01:38:53):
That tow drag was pretty What a play from the freshman.
Hannah Halverson did not look like a freshman on that play.
Face off in the black Bear zone, it does come
to Halverson. She feeds it toward the slot. Badgers can't
get on top of it, and the Black Bears skate
it out into neutral ice trying to capitalize on the opportunity,
but Halverson takes it away and controls it in Badger
territory ice, little tap ahead, She'll leave it that time
(01:39:15):
for Vivian Jungles. She goes cross ice into the neutral
zone for Hall, dumped into the Black Bears territory within
even eight minutes to play and eight goals on the
board for Wisconsin, none for the University of Maine. Black Bears.
Jungles back in her own zone as the puck works
into Badger territory behind the net and she'll get things
set back up. Finds Finley McCarthy on the near wall.
(01:39:36):
She looks for a pass to distribute. Bouncing pass does
get the Badgers into the zone in the person of
Bella Vassar, but it's quickly taken away by the Bears
and sent the other way at the blue line Badger's control.
Try to tap it forward. Maine re grabs at their
own blue line back into neutral ice seven point thirty
to play in the third and final period, pass intercepted
that time by Cassie Hall drops it off, finds Lacey
(01:39:58):
Eden back towards Hall tries to jim it in, but
he's not able to lay the lumber on Black Bears.
On the counter attack, Lily Fetch the sophomore dumps that
one in. Quinn Kuntz will stop it up behind the
Badger Nette where it's taken by Eva Murphy and turned
around on the near wall for Kelly Gorbtenko. Long stretch
pass from Gorbatenko is out of the reach of the
intended target and it will go for icing. We'll get
(01:40:19):
a face off with seven oh four to play in
the period.
Speaker 2 (01:40:23):
Yeah, we just continue to put the pressure on here
and it's good to see. And we're getting a lot
of different players in the in the lineup here, a
lot of ice time for some folks that haven't seen
that much this year.
Speaker 1 (01:40:34):
Everyone getting an opportunity, Bella Vassar, Mikaela Zilitch, Grace Bikett.
Great to see a lot of different faces on the
ice and a lot of different line combinations than playing
with some more experienced players getting that opportunity.
Speaker 2 (01:40:46):
Yeah, McCarthy's played a number of different positions today and
she's looked great in every one of them. Are situations rather.
Speaker 1 (01:40:52):
Badger's control in their own zone. But now Maine takes
it away. A low angle shot is blocked by Cassie Hall.
Nice defensive play from the Badger forward as Zilich tries
to track it down. Great play with the skate by
Village and she gets it forward for Lacey eaton along
the wall, comes back to Zillich still on that far
wall the Badger' zone and now she taps it out.
How about Zilich there clearing the zone.
Speaker 2 (01:41:12):
Great shift, good pursuit by Zillach all the way along
the wall.
Speaker 1 (01:41:15):
Six twenty seven a go. In this third and final period,
Gorbatenko on the slingshot has some speed as she accelerates
through neutral ice right wing side entry. One handed push
will send it behind the black Bear's net up the
near side wall. Murphy putting pressure on Black Bears are
able to clear it. They go cross ice and enter
Badger territory. Venusio has it at her own faceoff dot
behind the net and a nice backwards drop for Gorbatenko
(01:41:38):
on the far side Badger's at the blue line. Black
Bears do hold, put it off of a Badger defender
that was Venusio, and they're able to retain the zone.
This time moving forward as Frederica Foss Foss fights for
the puck as it works its way to the far wall,
continuing to push Badgers up against the wall. Now Wisconsin
does get into the neutral zone with five forty five
to go in the game. It up behind her own net,
(01:42:01):
leaves it for Murphy. Murphy kind of living dangerously there.
Pressure put on by May, but Ava Murphy does hold possession,
and now she sends it down that one is no
icing is the call? Instead, it'll be covered by Ryan
and frozen down. We'll the face off in the black
Bear's territory.
Speaker 2 (01:42:19):
Yeah, Murphy was kind of playing with fire there behind
our own net. You don't want to get caught alone
there with two people.
Speaker 1 (01:42:24):
Pressure and yet a little bit frightening.
Speaker 2 (01:42:26):
But she's a Healonted gal. She got herself out of
arm's way.
Speaker 1 (01:42:29):
Somehow she did make it work. We're going to take
our final time out here. It's five twenty nine to go.
It's Badger's eight main zero on AM ten seventy the game.
Welcome back everyone to the third and final period. The
Badgers are up eight nothing with five nineteen to play
here in Maine. They control the pocket neutral ice and
they're able to jam it into the black Bear zone.
Knocked clear there, the Badgers will fire it back down,
(01:42:51):
but have to check up on the delayed off sides
behind the net. It's taken by Jamie Grinder of Maine
and clear in right though coming in trying to steal
it away behind the net, flicks it up towards the
point where the Badger's control was Nevitch. Now end right
in the corner to the top of the near circle.
Now to the high slot. A shot from there and
it goes just a bit wide of the net. Not
(01:43:13):
sure if that got deflected. Harvey, though skating around with
it for Wisconsin, drops it off to the face off
dot stop up from Picard. A shot and it's deflected,
but the deflection goes just a touch wide. Badger's got
what they wanted, but pushed it just out of range.
Harvey near side face off circle, stops up on the
near wall. Working in the corner, She's hassled by a
couple of black Bear defenders en right at the point
(01:43:34):
does hold the zone. Badgers will go for a change
as they work with the puck in the corner was Nevitch.
Cross Ice finds Harvey and she'll go off to change.
Drops the puck down low, trying to get that one
there as Lady Potter. Black Bears have it in their
own zone. As the Badgers are getting some new skaters
loose puck for Edwards drop to O'Brien O'Brien Edwards bottom
(01:43:56):
of the circle, shot at a score, Edwards puts it
off the top of the glove of Maddie Ryan. That's
the second time we've seen her victimize a goaltender.
Speaker 2 (01:44:05):
With the glove. I just think her shots that hard.
If they don't pick it clean, they can't hold onto it.
Speaker 1 (01:44:11):
That is Leila Edwards's fifth point of the night. Two
goals and three assists. What a drop pass from Casey O'Brien.
That's O'Brien's fourth assist of the night, also her fifth point.
Oh my goodness, man, what a job by these Badgers.
They are looking fantastic. Edwards with the assist from O'Brien
(01:44:32):
at fifteen fifty nine in the third and it is
all Wisconsin tonight, nine to nothing. Badgers. They're the number
one team in the conference for a reason, the number
one team in the NCAA for a reason. An icing
call against the Black Bears will bring a face off
back there. And I had it wrong. For Casey that's
merely her third point, not her fifth. Let's get it
straight here. But five points for le Edwards. Yeah, two
(01:44:56):
goals and three assists. What a night. She has had yeah, just.
Speaker 2 (01:45:00):
In the right spot at the right time, you know,
reading a play, putting herself in position to be able
to do something.
Speaker 1 (01:45:05):
Badgers win the face off off that icing call. Vivian
Jungles at the point sends it across ice, opposite point
for Lady Potter. It trails off her stick and she
has to retreat into the neutral zone. With three thirty
six to go. She re enters the zone, is ridden
hard to the ice by the Black Bears, and they
will send it right back into the neutral territory. And yeah,
I think I think the Badgers could make an argument there,
(01:45:27):
but we'll play on. Don't want to be churlish. When
you're up nine to nothing. Black Bears enter the zone.
It's Adrian Vanderley's coming in backwards and she'll send it
behind the Badger net picked up there by Wisconsin, and
Hannah Halverson has control. Halverson sends it across to Potter,
angled up off the boards into center ice regathered by
Reagan Worm of Maine, but the Badgers quickly take it
(01:45:49):
away and send it up. Hannah Halverson back hands it
in on the left wing wall, nicely stopped by Maddy Ryan.
Who's able to play it for the Bears up that nearside,
walling back into the neutral zone. Lady Potter has it
there for Wisconsin, with Vivian Jungles controlling back to Potter
on the near side of the Badger zone. Neutralized pass
(01:46:10):
goes past Finley McCarthy. She's striding after it though. A
nice job by excuse me, Stephanie Jacob to just angle
her off her intended path, but the puck does remain
in the black Bear zone.
Speaker 2 (01:46:21):
I think she thought she was gonna knock Mark McCarthy over,
but that's not going to happen. She's a strong hockey player.
Speaker 1 (01:46:27):
They list Finley McCarthy at five foot nine, and I
think they might be stealing an inch or two. She's
a big presence on this.
Speaker 2 (01:46:32):
As you said, she's got nice, solid dimensions. She's a
real strong athlete.
Speaker 1 (01:46:36):
Venusio at the point sends a shot at deflects off
a skate blade and into the safety netting. We'll get
another face off. Two twelve to go in this game.
Nine nothing Wisconsin.
Speaker 2 (01:46:45):
Man, what a margin, huh.
Speaker 1 (01:46:48):
You gotta feel confident when you've got a nine goalie,
you know.
Speaker 2 (01:46:51):
I'm glad they went on the road. You know, it's Thanksgiving.
There's a lot of different things going through everybody's head,
I'm sure, and just they're just handling it well, and
I hope we can continue to do so, and you know,
finish the job tonight and then come out tomorrow and
play well again.
Speaker 1 (01:47:05):
Badger's get a shot right off the draw and Maddie
Ryan covers it up. Cassie Hall sending it towards the net.
On that one, we'll have another face off with two
ten to go, based off in the near side of
the black Bear zone. Hall still in the dot. That
one is won by the Black Bears, but it comes
up to Venusio in the confusion. Shot from the top
of the circle doesn't make it through. Gorbtenko tied up
(01:47:25):
with a Bear defender there. It bangs off of those
two and ends up back behind the net. Badger's still
fighting for this loose pockets Cassie Hall that comes up
within a corner, now Gorbtenko opposite side. She works her
way all the way to the center point. High slot
shot from Gorbatenko is deflected through traffic and ends up
behind the net. Rims to the far wall. Badgers gather again.
With a minute forty two to play, Cassie Hall sends
(01:47:47):
it down Rims at the opposite way for Lacy Eaton
on the near side. Eating a nice move through traffic,
Venusio holds the loose pocket the point, sends it down
towards Hall in the near corner, bears along the far wall.
Badger's right there will not allow it to get clear.
Minute twenty six to play in the third and final period.
Nine nothing Wisconsin here in Maine.
Speaker 2 (01:48:06):
I really like our continued aggressive for checking down even
below the goal line in the offensive end.
Speaker 1 (01:48:12):
Up nine goals and they are not going to give
it up. Right Zilla ish out there now. She sends
it down for Eden behind the net, who gathers it
Eten into the slot. Hall can't swing, She's not able
to get the shot on now in the slot. A
shot from Eden and a very nice glove save. Oh,
I guess Ryden had some players in her face, some
definite screens there. She makes a confidence stop.
Speaker 2 (01:48:31):
Yeah, she's got x rayspecs on to see through that trap.
Speaker 1 (01:48:36):
Nice shot from Eden and she's got a quick deceptive release.
Great save from Ryan. She does just over a minute
to go. Minute two to play In this third and
final period, the Badger's leading nine to nothing as Picard
wins the draw four. Wisconsin up the far wall to
the point back down to Waznevich Picard beneath the net
was Nevitch Outer hash marks Picard again as they change positions,
(01:48:59):
faced off shot and a save, nice one from Picard
from the far side, face off dot Ryan with another
good save. Forty seven and a half seconds to play.
Speaker 2 (01:49:08):
It probably seems like an eternity if you're a main
player right now is getting the puck out of your
own end. There's been unable to do so.
Speaker 1 (01:49:15):
Yep, You're like, just let it end here. Ava Murphy
at the center point. Her shot is padded away by Ryan.
Picard tries to work it in traffic the defense of
the Bears, not get clear behind the net. It'll be
picked up that time by Sunby. She taps it toward
the blue line. Badger's in position a hole. Badger's dangling
through traffic bottom of the circle, and they pass it
through but can't get the shot to go. The Bears
(01:49:36):
finally do clear the zone with twenty four seconds to go.
As this game reaches nears its conclusion, twenty seconds to
play the puck behind the Badger net. Wisconsin will pick
it up up. Nine to nothing. Here the number one
team in the country looking absolutely like they deserve that title.
Nine seconds to play, Cassie Hall still chasing it down.
Five seconds to play, Haul trying to find a way
(01:49:58):
to get this one to an offensive play. But that
will be how this game ends. The final horn sounds
and the Badgers defeat the Black Bears of Maine nine
to nothing.
Speaker 2 (01:50:07):
Wow, what a what a contest. Huh.
Speaker 1 (01:50:10):
Beautiful game from the Badgers. They have a number of
different players with multipoint games. Leela Edwards with five, Carolyn
Harvey with three, Casey O'Brien with three, Kirsten Sims with three,
Waznevitch and Picard each ad unassisted goals. Some of the
freshmen getting involved. Yeah, I really like that, yep, Finley McCarthy,
just so many different people you could talk about. We'll
(01:50:31):
have all that and more for you on the postgame show.
Stay tuned to AM ten seventy the game, Welcome back,
Everyone's Exey left and Mark green Hall with you in
the studio. The Badgers on the road in Maine today
and they complete a beautiful finish nine to nothing on
top of the main black Bears. We've got an awful
lot of highlights for you of those goals, so let's
hear those now. Fifteen fifty to go, and now a
(01:50:52):
loose pucket is picked up by the Badgers. A shot
and a score.
Speaker 2 (01:50:56):
Oh wow.
Speaker 1 (01:50:57):
Sarah Waznevitch grab the loose pocket, banged off a black
Bear skate right into the high slot and she buries it.
It's one nothing, Wisconsin. With fifteen forty six to go,
Sims beneath the net looking for Edwards finds her at
the faceoff dot wind In. A drive from Murphy in
a score. Excuse me, Carolyn Harvey, A one time slapper
(01:51:17):
from the high slot. Beautiful pass from Edwards, what a score?
Two nothing Badgers Edwards one time drive off the glove
and inn. Edwards didn't seem to get all of that one,
but she put it off the inside of a stretching
Lightenin's glove and she gets the score. Carolyn Harvey at
the top of the near circle, moves it across for
jungles back to Harvey at the center point. She works
(01:51:39):
her way down into the slot. Harvey a shot. Kevin
trickles in Carolyn Harvey able to thread it past lightning
her second goal of the game. It's four nothing. Badgers
dropped down from a Carthy feet and a shot and
a score a point. Carthy threw to Gorba Tenko on
the back door. She drives it in another power play
goal for Wisconsin. It's five nothing. Badger Sims and O'Brien
(01:52:02):
Sims far side score man. Kirsten Sims rips it from
the hash Marks, won a shot and the Badgers just
as quickly as they kill the penalty off, getting even
strength goal. It's six nothing. Badger's still trying to work
out of their zone. Nice job by Leila Edwards. She
fires cross ice and it's a two on one for Wisconsin.
Sims at the hash marks takes a shot and I
(01:52:23):
believe she scores. Oh, we didn't get much of a
reaction from the referee or the or the players, and
she did score. Kirsten Simms the.
Speaker 2 (01:52:33):
Ref come around. He kind of subtly indicated, but I
can't tell if he was, you know, meaning it's going
to be a whistle, or if it's a goal and
he he or she meant it was a goal.
Speaker 1 (01:52:42):
So the card circles around towards the high slot, face
off dot farside score. Mary Anne Peicard goes all the
way around around the world on the entire zone and
makes the score. Black Bears have it in their own
zone as the Badgers are getting some new skaters, loose
puck for Edwards, drop to O'Brien, and Edward's bottom of
the circle shot at a score. Yes, And so that's
(01:53:05):
how the Badgers did it. Nine goals over three periods
of hockey, four in the first, three in the second,
and two in the third. Coach green Hall, there's no
way you can be unhappy with a nine to nothing performance.
But even in that context, the Badgers look great today.
Speaker 2 (01:53:19):
Yes they did. They certainly came to play. What I
really liked is they didn't give up at any point
or you know, ease up on the gas throutal there.
They just kind of continued to do good habits and
never fell into anything lackadaisical, and I like that they
just sustained that pressure the whole sixty minutes.
Speaker 1 (01:53:38):
Great special teams play as well, four penalty kills all successful,
and then two of three on the power play today.
Speaker 2 (01:53:44):
Yeah, big part of the game when your special team
deliver the mail for you, and are certainly did tonight
both the penalty kill and the power play.
Speaker 1 (01:53:52):
She didn't face a ton of shots, But what did
you see from Quinn Couns in the one period of
action she got there in the third.
Speaker 2 (01:53:57):
She was Rice in the right spot. She read the play,
and I liked the fact that she, much like Aba,
would pass the puck up every now and then or
go back and play it. Set it for defenseman. I
like that because it changes the opposition's for check.
Speaker 1 (01:54:09):
Awesome. Well, folks, if you're just joining us, it is
nine to nothing in favor of the Badgers. The number
one Wisconsin team defeats the University of Maine Black Bears
in regulation. We will be back tomorrow at three pm.
Puck drops at three pm. We'll get started at two
fifty right here on Am ten seventy of the game
as the Badgers complete the series against Maine. Until then,
for our board operator Sean Preeble, my partner, Mark Greenhall,
(01:54:30):
my name is Exiloft, saying so long, take care of
yourselves and take care of somebody else.
Speaker 2 (01:54:34):
Good night, everybody, thank you, thank you,
