Speaker 1 (00:00):
And there you go. The National Antheman being performed here
in Nashville, one of the music capitals of the United States.
And I heard when they were doing warm ups there
were some live music. I was here, and I don't
know where it was coming from, but somebody.
Speaker 2 (00:13):
Was, Yeah, here in the building, they had a live band.
They're not short on talent around here, that's for sure,
as far as musical goals, not at all.
Speaker 1 (00:20):
And of course leave it to Nashville to have a
live band in a hockey practice facility, right But anyway,
here we go. So the Smashville Women's Hockey Showcase being
hosted every year here at the Ford Ice Center.
Speaker 3 (00:34):
In Nashville, Tennessee. The Badger is going to be.
Speaker 1 (00:37):
A part of it. This year. They will play against
Mercy Hurst in a few moments and then Stonehill tomorrow
at noon Central time. Aiden Michael's Mark Greenhall, here with you.
Speaker 3 (00:48):
The Badgers are back.
Speaker 1 (00:49):
Mark.
Speaker 3 (00:49):
How was your Thanksgiving?
Speaker 2 (00:50):
Real good? I made sure I ate enough for all
of us so if you didn't get enough aid and
I covered your bets there over eight It was also delicious.
I love turkey, the stuff thing, the whole gravy deal,
all that stuff that's probably not that good for you,
but sure was delicious. Yeah, and our family got together
so nice, nice, a little get together.
Speaker 1 (01:08):
Yeah. You know, it's not thanks given if you're not
in a food.
Speaker 2 (01:10):
Call math right exactly, there you go.
Speaker 1 (01:13):
Yeah, I did the same. I had a lot of
that stuff.
Speaker 3 (01:16):
I'm the cranberry guy.
Speaker 1 (01:17):
I know it's not a very popular Thanksgiving for but
I like it.
Speaker 2 (01:20):
Yeah, it's a standard there for Thanksgiving.
Speaker 1 (01:22):
Yeah, you gotta have it. And then pumpkin pie too.
You can't can't go wrong with pumpkin vibe it anyway,
Here we go. The starting lines for the Badger's out
Kelly Gorboteco, Cassie Hall and Laila Edwards. The three forwards
Laney Potter, Emma Venusio on defense and of course end
goal Avin McNaughton, and away we go from Nashville, Tennessee,
(01:43):
the first game this Nashville showcase. Edwards, with quick pressure
in the Lakers zone, taking it up as poor Jewela
McKinley at the blue line, brought in by Shallon, took
a shot off the skate of Potter into the corner
of the Badger zone, putched along by Edwards. I've had
to Gorbatenko gave it.
Speaker 2 (02:01):
Away just inside your own blue line.
Speaker 1 (02:03):
We're able to get the winning overtime, but Badgers are
going to want a better start today than they had
in last game last weekend at Lebon.
Speaker 3 (02:11):
Vivian Jungles making a defensive place.
Speaker 1 (02:14):
She's back in the lineup. She missed both games against
Saint Thomas with an undisclosed injury.
Speaker 2 (02:19):
Really good to see her back in the lineup, that's
for sure.
Speaker 1 (02:21):
No kidding, shot blocking machine, Yeah, great to see her back.
Here comes yadon a three on two for Wisconsin Sims
on the left side, slides it across but then under
the stick of Caroline Harvey Newton and shovels it away
into center ice. It's picked up at the blue line
by Jungles up ahead the Sims to point. So that's
(02:42):
the first save on the first shot for Magdalena Lougian
from Austria. So she will be the starting goaltender for
the Mercyhurst Lakers today. Face off one by scan the
left side, Fan on the pass, Badgers keeping it in
the zone. Murphy in the corner shovels it along for Scanning.
Scannell has it in the corner in the Lakers zone
(03:03):
being tied up gets it down low for Peakin, Hagen,
Peak and Hagen the centering pass looking for Scannal. She
fanned on it and then.
Speaker 3 (03:10):
Fell to the ice as the Lakers can clear.
Speaker 1 (03:14):
Two minutes gone here in the first period, no stride
if you can go for a change.
Speaker 2 (03:19):
Well, it looks like Mercy Herris is gonna make you
play an honest game here there.
Speaker 1 (03:23):
Block in front.
Speaker 3 (03:24):
Potter says it toward goal.
Speaker 1 (03:27):
It's gloved there by Lotigan.
Speaker 2 (03:30):
Yeah, I figured we'd get a good contest here. This
is the twenty seventh season for Mike Sisty to coach
a Mercy Hurst and I think he's what. He's got
six hundred wins under his belt ball already for his career.
Speaker 1 (03:43):
Yeah. He was at one point the winningest coach wow
in women's colle hockey. He was passed by Mark Johnson
when they played against each other Farcy Ears against Wisconsin.
So a bit of a passing of the torch there
if you. Yeah, Potter now off the face off at
the right point, poking at it. There's Potter and McCarthy
(04:04):
scallon against the wall for Merciers trying to get it free.
And she does to purgase up ahead to Scallon trying
to get a clear can't do it. Halverson picks it
up and then it's turned over once again and then
skated out to center ice. Poytrous jumps that one down,
no icing chasing his Potter getting their first as Shallon
Potter gets tied up with her, a Laker goes down
(04:28):
on the corner. Potter gets it up ahead to McCarthy.
It's a two on two now. McCarthy on the left side,
back behind for Halverson, centering past the Venusio turning away
at the right circle, drops it off for Harvey. Harvey
right circle, looking centering pass taking a shot as Picard
deflected wide of the goal.
Speaker 2 (04:45):
Good idea there.
Speaker 1 (04:47):
Harvey keeps it in and then the Badgers go for
a change. But Cart's still looking for that first goal
the season. She's come so close. She'll get it, gains,
Oh she will.
Speaker 2 (04:55):
She's right on the cops. I'll tell you.
Speaker 1 (04:56):
Yeah, it's a matter of when not if. Harvey picks
it up behind the Badger goal, gives that one away,
picked up by Metzler. Metzler chasing it behind the net,
gets it away from Harvey spins away from Hall, centering
pass taken away by Caroline Harvey and then up to Edwards.
Edward's trying to clear the zone and does picks it
(05:17):
up at center ice. Up ahead now for Gorbateko, who
lost it delayed off side, so the Badgers are gonna
have to skid out of the zone. Up ahead now
brought in by Newtonan Newton at the blue line, Edwards
and Harvey poking keeping it in is Newton in centers
that one metzler toward Gold, deflected off of Cassie Hall
(05:39):
and wide of the net, fifteen to fifty three to
go here in the first no score in Nashville. Still
looking for that first goal of the game, Jungles gives
it away, Evans thumbs it up along chasing it there
as Burke Harvey gets there in the corner of the
Badger zone, opposite side the Gorbatenko. Another two on two
for Wisconsin. Gebetek because she's a bit tired, so she
(06:01):
rips the shot into the glove and the whistle goes
as Lougen tried to play it, but instead there was
a whistle.
Speaker 2 (06:08):
Mercy Hurst appears to have some pretty good speed. They
got some good fast skaters under club. Yeah, we're gonna
see a face off here to the right of their
goaltender Logan fifteen.
Speaker 1 (06:21):
Thirty one to go here in the opening period, both
teams searching for that first goal.
Speaker 2 (06:26):
Yeah, an all.
Speaker 1 (06:28):
Important first goal. Yeah, Shapovlivova three on two for Wisconsin. Eden.
Speaker 3 (06:34):
Shapovalova is looking for sims. Couldn't find the stick.
Speaker 2 (06:38):
Yeah, right there in the crease too.
Speaker 3 (06:40):
Eating again.
Speaker 1 (06:41):
Turned over.
Speaker 3 (06:42):
Eden can't keep it in, but she keeps possession of.
Speaker 1 (06:44):
The puck and I'll just dump it down as the
Badger's touch up for a delayed offside gives the Lakers
some time to make a play. Here, pass up ahead
to send her eyes, pass down again back in the
Badger's own is. Murphy gives it away defensive zone, but
lucky for her, slipping was Maddie Nelson and a big
break for Wisconsin.
Speaker 2 (07:05):
There, yaike go want to be turning the puck over there?
Not in that defensive zone, No kidding.
Speaker 1 (07:12):
Here's a counter attacking chance now for the Lakers, moving
in into the corner now stopping up, Potter takes it away,
battling forward back of the Lakers, Potter up on the boards,
gets it to Eden, who dumps it out and it'll
go on net So no icing. The Badgers are able
to change. Here's CHEROKEI gets tied up there with Potter,
(07:37):
who's able to make a play. McKinley picks it up
in the neutral zone up ahead, now to Evans entering
the zone on the right side, tied up there with
Venutio behind the Badger net Scannal list it out of
the zone, gets past en Red goes all the way
down in an icing called with fourteen oh two to
go in the opening frame, some.
Speaker 2 (07:57):
Good angling on the wall there, possession and just a
little too long of a pass there, resulting in the
icing here.
Speaker 1 (08:05):
And now you may have some tired skaters on the
ice as the Badgers have to.
Speaker 3 (08:09):
Get this book out of their zone and can go
for a change.
Speaker 1 (08:12):
Scandal and Metzler on the draw Scandal wins it for
the Badgers. Potter gets it behind the goal and Venusio
will pick it up in the corner in an attempt
to clear the zone, and she does, and right at
center ice trying to get it free, Metzler picking away
at it. It comes free for Venusio. Up ahead, gets
(08:32):
buy and right now picked up by Peyton. Evans across
now to Alaneus. Newton in on the left side, entering
the Badger zone, chasing it in the corner. Potter whacking
at it, gets it free to Venusio, and Venusio clears
the zone again, no icing as there is a deflection. Yep,
(08:53):
Pekan hog and chasing. Finally the Badgers can go for
a full change. Newtonan up ahead, turned it over to
a card. Picard gets it away from Newton and on
the right side, centering past pad it away by Lugien.
Jungles sends that one back toward goal, but nobody was
there in red. Harvey keeps the zone on the right side,
gives it away and here comes Potros pokes it up ahead,
(09:18):
getting it away from Jungles, but it's picked back up
by the Badgers. Here is Mariann Picard up the middle.
Picard drops it off to Halverson, a shot into the
stomach of lou Gien.
Speaker 2 (09:28):
Nice drop passer from Picard, good shot by Halverson and
Nice saved by Logan.
Speaker 1 (09:33):
There and the Badgers with six shots on goal just
to the Mercyhurst won.
Speaker 3 (09:38):
They had the first shot on goal of the game.
Speaker 2 (09:40):
They got things started, they.
Speaker 1 (09:43):
Did, but the Badgers have since then been controlling the game.
Speaker 2 (09:46):
Yeah, a little more puck possession by us so far.
Speaker 1 (09:50):
And Cassie Hall gets kicked out of the draw. In
comes Gorbtenko and the Lakers win the draw. Trying to
clear the zone gets it up to Mackenzie Jones, so
they keep the zone for the moment. Then it's given
away and then cleared by Young. Just lost it for
(10:10):
a moment, then Young picks it up with the Lakers
stretch pass. Good poke by Cassie Hall. Here is Scallon
McKinley shovels it to her.
Speaker 3 (10:19):
Goal and it's saved by McNaughton.
Speaker 2 (10:21):
Yeah, nice little jayhawk pass Sara by one of the
Mercy Hurst players to get him a shot in close there,
and Eva made the save. She have a face off
to her right coming up here.
Speaker 1 (10:32):
Twelve twenty five and ago still no score here in
the Smashville Showcase opening game.
Speaker 2 (10:39):
Andshville, Yeah right, I gotta like it.
Speaker 1 (10:42):
Yeah, gotta ring to it. Metzler and Hall duel to
the left of Ava mcnonty.
Speaker 3 (10:48):
Metzler wins the draw.
Speaker 1 (10:50):
Newton in back behind the goal being pressed up against
the boards by Potter. It comes free from Metzler. Metzler
finds McKinley trying to find somebody at the point, decides
to go in the corner for Metzler. Metzler trying to
keep it, but getting there first was Leila Edwards. Now
(11:11):
here comes Potter. Potter slides it across. Taking a shot
was Gorbatenko, but it was saved by Lougan with under
twelve to go here.
Speaker 2 (11:19):
That was a nice cross ice pass there through the
slot and red well by the goaltender of Mercyhurst Logan.
Speaker 1 (11:26):
You know, they should really get a D one women's
hockey team for Vanderbilt.
Speaker 3 (11:30):
I mean playing a nast would be great.
Speaker 2 (11:32):
Oh yeah, Well, they've done a lot to really promote
the sport here, you know when the Predators got here
and they've built several rinks and there's a lot of
youth hockey going on in this area.
Speaker 1 (11:42):
Harvey, it's the by Eden. They score. Wow, right off
the draw, Caroline Harvey sends it toward goal and a
beautiful redirection by Lacy Eden who scores again.
Speaker 2 (11:55):
Oh man, what a great tip and redirect by Eden.
There's not much to take oltender could do on that
one she had Harvey shot played pretty.
Speaker 1 (12:03):
Square something like that.
Speaker 2 (12:05):
You know, the only thing you can do to reduce
the chance of those deflections going in as you play
out further, so that distance between it coming off your
stick and that getting to the plane of the goal
is shortened. You know, not a lot you can do.
That's what you can do to hope you can help yourself.
Speaker 1 (12:25):
There you go. So the Badgers at around the twelve
minute mark take the lead. Here in Nashville, Lacy Eden
with her eleventh goal of the season from Caroline Harvey
for her thirty first points. Here's Sims on the right
side toa drag. Nice move, save three down is loose
and deflected.
Speaker 2 (12:44):
Why good attempt there.
Speaker 1 (12:45):
Great move from Sims their signature shimmy yeah. And Aris
Harvey still on the ice for Wisconsin. Mandeville gets it
up ahead. Here's Mahoney moving in the net, going in
on goal and with McNaughton who was able to make
the same and Ava seems to.
Speaker 2 (13:03):
Be okay, yeah, she's all right. Then that is back
along the end wall. It got knocked off its moorings.
They're pretty good there. When that player went right to
the net hard Ava made the same.
Speaker 3 (13:13):
And how about the Badger fans here in Nashville.
Speaker 1 (13:15):
Some I assumed probably from Nashville, but there's a lot
of familiar faces that we've seen at Lebonn.
Speaker 2 (13:19):
Yeah, there really is great that some of these parents
of the players were getting here and other fans. Yeah,
a little bit of red Inney crowd. I like it absolutely.
Ten fifty six to go here.
Speaker 1 (13:30):
In the first period, Badger's lead one nothing thanks to
Lacy Eden. A few minutes ago, Mackenzie Jones on the
draw gets it up ahead to Clara Enright, who skates
it out of the zone and into the Lakers zone. Oh,
and Mandeville goes down hard into the boards. Oh boy,
being pushed by en Right. There's still no whistle, and
finally we get a whistle and Mandeville, gosh, she went
(13:51):
down a hard.
Speaker 2 (13:53):
I didn't see what preceded that. Did she just lose
an edgeer was content right.
Speaker 1 (13:57):
There was a little bit of contact, nothing too much,
but yeah, lost her footing because of that contact from
en Right and winning really hard.
Speaker 2 (14:04):
But yeah, she's okay.
Speaker 1 (14:06):
Yeah, it's a scary looking one.
Speaker 2 (14:08):
The official was right there, so evidently there was an
oil intent or or uh, you know, penalty to be called.
Speaker 1 (14:16):
Yeah, just one of those awkward ones and like but.
Speaker 2 (14:18):
Oh, you get that close to the end wall or
the wall, the boards, anywhere and it can be dangerous.
Speaker 1 (14:23):
Yeah, no kidding. Now up ahead, let's bet on the
right side center pass looking for a mess by Murphy.
Great defensive play by Ama Murphy. And here she is
now with the puck in the Badger zone off the
scative scannal. So it's turned over taking a shot is
Mason Evan it's blocked in front.
Speaker 2 (14:43):
I'd like to see us tighten up our breakout passes
a little bit. We've had a several turnovers and those
could get expensive if you have too many of those.
Speaker 1 (14:51):
Scannell at the blue line and she skates in before
the puck creeps in, so we'll get a whistle here.
Speaker 3 (14:58):
With ten oh three to go and first.
Speaker 1 (15:00):
Period, Badgers leading one nothing, face off outside the zone,
Marian Bicard to take it against Julia Purus, won by
per use and out to center ice, poking that one along,
colliding with the official there was Lady Potter, and in
(15:22):
the end we get an icing against the Lakers and
the face off will come all the way back to
the mercy her zone.
Speaker 2 (15:32):
Yeah, let's see if we can build on that goal.
Get another one here. Huh. I'm getting kind of greedy,
but you know, I'm just anxious. Here midway through the
first period, roughly.
Speaker 1 (15:40):
Yeah, and this is where the Badgers scored the first goal.
Face off to the right of lou Gian and then
Harvey was able to send it toward goal. He was
deflected by Eden to find the back of the net.
Let's see if the Badgers can do something similar McCarthy
right off there for like that.
Speaker 3 (15:52):
Yeah, it's day and I love when they do that.
Speaker 1 (15:54):
The card always wins the draw rights to McCarthy in
the slot, one timer exactly, and she's still looking for
her first goal. You'd assume that her first goal might
come from something like that. Yep, here she is now
Finley McCarthy with speed, takes it in, but then loses
the puck at center. Isis Picard to Halverson in the zone,
shoots that one to the opposite corner. McCarthy picks it
(16:16):
up in the left side, goes back behind the goal
to find Halverson. Halverson the centering past McCarthy man and
it's over the goal. What a pass.
Speaker 2 (16:25):
Yeah, Halverson, your pass had eyes on it. There found
McCarthy right in a slot.
Speaker 1 (16:31):
That was a great opportunity, and Venusia will touch up
another icings to come going against the Lakers with nine
fourteen to go, and the Badgers are badgering the Lakers.
Now we gotta face off to the left of Magdalena
Lougie Haul to take the draw against Julia Peruse. Peruse
(16:56):
wins her second straight draw and the zone is cleared.
Speaker 3 (16:59):
Will it go down for a third straight icing? Yes,
it will.
Speaker 1 (17:02):
The Lakers cannot seem to get it out of the
zone without icing the park right.
Speaker 2 (17:06):
I like our pressure there. See if we can win
to draw on this one, hush yeah.
Speaker 1 (17:13):
Cassie Hall will have another chance, another opportunity to win
this draw against Julia Peru's.
Speaker 3 (17:20):
So we'll see what happens here. Per Us won the
last one.
Speaker 1 (17:22):
Cassie Hall trying to win this one in the Lakers zone,
and she does, gets it to Caroline Harvey at the
right point. Now here is Edwards into the corner for
Hall right point Leila Edwards again, Caroline Harvey up the
middle right side. Edwards pulls back, takes a shot deflected
in front of Porbatenco and we get a whistle.
Speaker 2 (17:43):
To be honest with you, I don't know how that
goaltender kept it out of the net. Edwards got it
on nets. She made the initial save down there, and
there were two badgers right in a blue paint, but
couldn't knock it in.
Speaker 3 (17:53):
And Gorba Teco is probably thinking the same thing.
Speaker 2 (17:55):
Yeah, that was a great play. It's nice to see
Edward just get that puck to the net, you know,
shoot or we got to rebound to work with. If
we don't score on the initial shot.
Speaker 3 (18:07):
Paul loses out on the draw.
Speaker 1 (18:08):
It's a lolla current goes into the netting a clearing attempt,
so we get a face off to come with eight
forty eight to go in the first period.
Speaker 2 (18:17):
Well, Hall probably feels like she's doing face off drills here.
It's like your third consecutive one in no time.
Speaker 1 (18:23):
A lot of face offs for Cassie Hall. She lost
two is one to one.
Speaker 3 (18:28):
She wins a sea that one.
Speaker 1 (18:30):
Yeah, Harvey turned over, but it's kept in by jungles.
Grbateenco picks it up behind the net. Gorbtenko take it
away there by lollacker. Berlin Lollacker can't clear the zone.
Jungles the shot deflected over the goal Gorbotenko pressed up
against the boards there by Kate Donoghan Cassie Hall in
(18:51):
the corner left point.
Speaker 3 (18:52):
Jungles slides it across to Harvey.
Speaker 1 (18:55):
Harvey stops up, gets away from Donagan, sends it down
low in the corner for gorbal Tank and it's picked
up then by Lollacker. The zone is cleared, nearly kept
in by the Badgers two on one chance of making hurry,
but Harvey is there to react. Paul gave it.
Speaker 2 (19:13):
Up turnovers there on the breakout pass.
Speaker 1 (19:17):
Giving a zone entry for the Lakers. Shot from the
point by Evans, saved by McNaughton. But I mean two
of the four shots from the Lakers have come from
the Badgers giving the puck away in their own zone.
Speaker 2 (19:29):
Yeah, you just still want to You can't do that
very long and expect it not for ill things to happen.
Breaking out cleaned.
Speaker 1 (19:39):
Betsler wins a draw, eating got tripped up and no
call there incidental contact. Mackenzie Jones trying to clear the
zone as a second attempt to do so can't quite.
Murphy picks it up behind the Badger goal, makes a
nice move around Metzler. Murphy clears the zone Shoppa, but
Bova up to eat in the goal scorer seven and
a half to go here in the first period. Only
(20:00):
goal is for lazy Eden today, one nothing Wisconsin. Shapovalovar
to Eden. Eden's tight angle centering pass off the pad
of lou Gain Shappy out in front to lay it
off side, So Shappie leaves it picked up now by
the Lakers turned over. The Badgers get it right back,
(20:20):
no deflection, so no icing Helenius behind the Lakers zone goal.
Speaker 2 (20:26):
Excuse me, you know it's nice to see Jones, a freshman,
getting a lot of turns here on d and she's
getting the job done.
Speaker 1 (20:34):
Absolutely. She is the freshman, very very successful high school
hockey players.
Speaker 3 (20:41):
Most of these players are, but she was incredible.
Speaker 2 (20:46):
And with this Olympic year and those intermittent absences with
some of our players on the US Olympic team and whatnot,
it really got to develop. The depth.
Speaker 1 (20:56):
Face off will come to the right of Ava McNaughton.
Six fifty five to go here. In the first period,
Badgers lead one nothing. Nelson and Scanneal on the draw
Scannal wins it, picked up by Potter behind the net,
off a skate in the badger zone, picked up by Venusio,
(21:16):
up ahead and right on the right side and right
toward goals. Sticked away by lou Gie and picked up
behind the net, peaking hog and chasing, trying to keep
it in the zone for the Badgers, but can't do
it up ahead went off a stick there of Young
no icing as there was a deflection. Sims now or Potter,
excuse me at center Ice gave it away, bringing it
(21:39):
right back in is per use per use rifts the
shot saved by McNaughton. McNaughton, excuse me again, folks, I
told you my voice is a little gun here.
Speaker 2 (21:48):
So you leave it in California. Come on, too much
gravy on the turkey.
Speaker 1 (21:54):
Right exactly, that'll do it.
Speaker 2 (21:55):
Oh boy, Well, nice glove saved there by no re bounds,
so we have a face off to her right.
Speaker 1 (22:04):
The card wins the draw as she usually does. Another
turnover though in the Badger's zone, and then gloved away
by Hannah Alverson.
Speaker 3 (22:13):
But the Badgers need to clean that up.
Speaker 1 (22:18):
There's Picard up the middle of the McCarthy rips a
shot into the glove of Lougan, and I'll tell you what,
Picard and McCarthy on the line together.
Speaker 3 (22:26):
They're both searching for the first goal.
Speaker 1 (22:28):
I wonder who's gonna get it first.
Speaker 3 (22:29):
I wonder if it's a little bit of a battle
between those two.
Speaker 2 (22:32):
I'll tell you what. They're both really good players. They
both keep their feet moving when even when they don't
have the puck, you know, and they create good situations
as a result.
Speaker 1 (22:43):
Picard and per Use on the draw to the right
of Lougan. The Card wins the draw and then loses
it out to per Use. It's kept in by Jungles, though,
but Card was looking for Harvey up the middle, couldn't
find her. Harvey picks it up off the boards, escapes
to the right point. It now goes to the middle
on the left circle. Harvey still hits the bar, just
(23:06):
can't keep it in. Yeah, she was cycling there and
then just smashed one off the crossbar. McCarthy took a shot,
it's blocked. Halverson gets it to the point to Harvey,
Harvey to Jungles. Jungles centering pass deflected wide of the
gold goes out in front and McKinley asks to deal
with it. She does five and a half to go
here in the opening period one nothing Wisconsin, as the
(23:30):
Lakers will go for a change. Just holding it behind
the ned is really a per use stretch passed up
to Donagan, finds her on the left side, entering the zone,
poked away by Jungles. Jungles trying to win it back
in the corner. Donagan still has it now to Burke
at the point. Potress can't clean this right Here comes
Hannah Halverson. Halverson toa dragon, can't get into her back hands,
(23:53):
she loses possession. Good idea there. From how centering classroom hall,
it comes for Murphy to flect part of the goal,
Gorbatenko behind the net. Gorbatenko at the point to Jones.
Jones to Murphy left point. Murphy gets it right back.
Speaker 2 (24:08):
It's nice, nice given goal there between Edwards and Murphy.
Speaker 1 (24:12):
Edwards on the bumper for that one, and then it
deflects out of the zone and a big opportunity there
for Murphy, also looking for her first goal. Almost got
one off a deflection there. Edwards receives it well on
the right side. Edwards to the middle looks for Murphy
goes off a laker. Murphy keeps it in for the
time being, but gives away possession four to fifteen to
(24:33):
go here in the first.
Speaker 3 (24:36):
Jones at center ice.
Speaker 1 (24:38):
A battle for it. There it comes free and into
the Badger zone for Ava Murphy spinning away from Metzler.
Mettler goes well to get it right back, though Murphy
hounding at it in the corner. Big hit from Jones
there behind the net, tight angle shot over the shoulder
of mcgutton, and Mandeville gets it across and up ahead
(25:00):
to Newtonman makes a nice move around the hall, but
skate's just offside?
Speaker 3 (25:03):
Is Metzler was just about a skate off side.
Speaker 2 (25:06):
I'm glad there was an off side because Mercy Hurst
had a quick transition nearing a neutral zone. We're bringing
it in for another account, so saved.
Speaker 4 (25:15):
By the off side whistle of the Badgers on that
one for three point forty five to go here in
the first period, Shapovoli bo both to take the drawer,
Wisconsin to take it for Mercy.
Speaker 3 (25:28):
Hears is Mattie Nelson.
Speaker 1 (25:29):
And the referee telling Eden and CHEROKEI to get back.
Speaker 2 (25:34):
Yeah, oh, drop the puck there we there we go.
Speaker 1 (25:41):
Here is Cherokee trying to skate away from Venusio, but
she does well to get it right off her. Looking
behind the net, sends that one around, brought down by Sims.
Sims being pushed up against the boards there on the
right side. He didn't chasing it at the corner, and
Evans picks it up behind the goal. Mahoney skates behind
(26:02):
the laker. Joel tries to get out of the zone
and does brought right back in by shappavali Vova, but
just offside. Ye look to me like she kept it in,
but I guess not.
Speaker 2 (26:13):
Yeah, we don't have the stripes on today.
Speaker 1 (26:15):
And so no, we don't touched the log by Sims
taken away. Here comes Potter. Potter tries to lift it
over Lougain but lifts it over the goal instead. Here's
Sims up the middle. Sims drops it back taking a
shot from the point. All free for Sims, but couldn't
corral it.
Speaker 2 (26:33):
Just an ocean in net there, but the puck hopped
over stick.
Speaker 1 (26:37):
Sims tried the centering past to find Harvey, but she
couldn't corral it. And the zone is clear. But Harvey's
gonna want to take it right back in and here
she is on the right side. Caroline Harvey takes the
shot into the glove of Lougan with two oh six
to go.
Speaker 2 (26:52):
In the first She can create space when there is none,
you know, and then she generates such speed, gets a nice,
high quality shot off like that for the right point
or just in from there, and goalie had to make
a nice glove saved to pick it.
Speaker 1 (27:05):
She's had some work to do, eighteen shots on goal.
She's had to face seventeen saves so far. Harvey gets
it to Jungles right off the draw, Jungles being pushed
up against the boards by Evans. Harvey picks it up
at center ice as the Lakers cleared the zone. Here's
end right and right up ahead to scandal. Scannel tries
to drop it for peaking hog and it's taken away
(27:25):
by Newton and that's center ice. Is Jungles to get
it back in the Lakers zone a buck forty to
go here in the first period, that one's lifted all
the way down and the nice thing is waved off
as Newton and got there apparently before Caroline Harvey did.
Now Here is poetros up to Newton and Harvey standing
(27:51):
in her way. Badgers still can't clear the zone though
behind the net is Burke skips over her stick. It's
chased by Jungles in the corner who tries to lift
it out of the zone and trying to keep it
in the zone. There was maya Alinius, but it goes
into the Badger bench. So we'll get a face off
to the left of Ava McNaughton with a minute fourteen
to go.
Speaker 2 (28:11):
Oh, the first pretty fast period. Heeriod and not only
a minute fourteen to goal, you know there was There's
been no penalties, there's only been one goal, so not
a lot of stoppages to play. Pretty fast paced moving
along here.
Speaker 1 (28:24):
Taking the draw is Julia Peruse for the Lakers, and
winning that draw was picard and it nearly went.
Speaker 2 (28:30):
Out a goal.
Speaker 1 (28:31):
Yeah, however, sent at center ice to McCarthy on the
right side, who dumps that one down. Chasing it in calide.
She goes down. A Laker goes down as well. Oh boy, Poetress,
it was for Mercy Hurston. They're both up. They're both
skating slowly as the Lakers skate off side. Poetross limping
to the bench.
Speaker 2 (28:51):
And I tell you what, both those girls were headed
to the end wall with quite a bit of speed.
One lost in edge or both of them did. They
went down and nobody, you know, imparted on anybody else,
but they both hit the wall pretty hard.
Speaker 1 (29:03):
Yeah, And it seems like Poetrous was the one that
got the worst. That she was limping off and she's
talking to the trainer right now on the bench.
Speaker 2 (29:10):
But I don't want to see anybody get hurt.
Speaker 5 (29:12):
No.
Speaker 1 (29:12):
Luckily, it's almost the end of the period, so they'll
have that intermission to tend to that injury. Yep, and
we'll hope to see her back on the ice, says Gore.
Ptaco gets hit to her knees and the Lakers have
possession with thirty five seconds to go here in the
first period, per you sends that one down, goes for
a change, picked up behind the Badger goal by Ava
Murphy or Butteco can't get it out of the zone. Yeah,
(29:38):
Metzler at center ice. It gets away from her battling
for it. There is edwards fifteen seconds to go. Yeah,
right outside of the Badger zone. Yeah, player players battling
for the puck there.
Speaker 2 (29:52):
Excuse me, I stay in that defensive side of it.
Speaker 1 (29:56):
In that situation, Murphy dumps that one down behind the
goal is Lougen to make the play to end period
number one with the Badgers leading one nothing thanks to
a lac and go trading.
Speaker 3 (30:10):
What'd you see there in the first.
Speaker 2 (30:11):
Well, we had the advantage in shots, obviously, but one
area we can clean up is just a little smoother
breakout passes so we don't have any turnovers occurring inside
the blue line there and resulting in another opportunity for
the Mercyhurst Lakers.
Speaker 1 (30:25):
There lots of work to do for the Badgers, lots
of hockey to play. Two more periods to go. We're
gonna take a quick break when we come back the
intermission report Here on you one hundred point nine, don't
go anywhere. And I am joined now by a brand
communication student assistant for the Wisconsin Badgers from a hockey team,
my friend Lily Wakefield.
Speaker 3 (30:43):
Lilly welcome, Li'll be welcome.
Speaker 1 (30:45):
Are you good? Good now? Lily? We got in. We
had quite the day yesterday flying from LA five am flight,
bright and early. We pretty much slept the entire time,
but we finally made it to National. I mean, how's
it been.
Speaker 5 (30:57):
Since last year?
Speaker 1 (30:57):
Now?
Speaker 5 (30:58):
The s idea is my boss just great. We get
along really well and really bounce ideas off each other,
so really collaborative process.
Speaker 3 (31:05):
Now when did you start doing this?
Speaker 5 (31:07):
This is my second year with great Communications for Wisconsin Athletics,
but my first year with women hockey, and it's just
been a dream.
Speaker 1 (31:14):
I love it.
Speaker 3 (31:15):
And how cool is it?
Speaker 1 (31:16):
Obviously you get to work a lot of the home
or most of all the home games, I would say,
and you're doing a lot at lavonn But to be
able to come to for example, you in Disconectady, You're
gonna go on a lot of other trips, but Midgie and
then to be here in Ashville, I mean, how cool
is it to be able to travel with the team. Yeah.
Speaker 5 (31:29):
I never really thought in college I would get this opportunity.
So I'm really excited and I'm just happy to have it.
The team is great, staff is great, coaches, everyone's really
supportive and I think happy to work with me.
Speaker 1 (31:41):
I think.
Speaker 2 (31:41):
So it's been really nice.
Speaker 1 (31:42):
So what's next? Next year? You do this again? Yeah?
Speaker 5 (31:45):
Yeah, So I'll be here for one more year, my
senior year, and I don't know what's next. Could go
to grad school, could go get a big girl job.
Speaker 1 (31:52):
I don't know. We'll see. You never know. Lots of
time to go, and I'm not happy about going back
to Madison because of the weather. Apparently there's this arm going.
I know, you and I were joking that we didn't
really pack any We didn't think it was gonna be cold,
but it's it's quite chilly.
Speaker 5 (32:06):
Yeah, it's it's quite chilly here, not as cold as Wisconsin,
but I did not bring the winter jacket, so I've
definitely been shivering.
Speaker 3 (32:12):
Yeah, I hear there's a there's snow.
Speaker 1 (32:14):
But thankfully Jake is able to drive us back yes
tonight tomorrow, so that'll be nice. It's cold here, but
it's colder in Madison. Now we're going to a Predators game.
I mean, you were telling me earlier.
Speaker 5 (32:25):
It's your first ends NHL game, so I'm super excited. Again,
didn't really bring the right outfit for that either, but
that's all right.
Speaker 1 (32:33):
I guess we have to go badger here. I mean,
I don't really know. I didn't bring any like yellow,
but you might be one of the first people to
go to the Nasville Predators practice arena before you go
to their actuals. I agree arena, but I've been there once.
It's one of the best buildings in the country. So
for a first NHL game, it's gonna be pretty fun,
pretty excited.
Speaker 3 (32:51):
It's gonna be good. So we'll see what happens. Our hotel.
Speaker 1 (32:53):
We're on Broadway. That's the best treat to be on
in Nashville, so lots of fun to be had. But Lily,
thanks for joining me. I know that there was some apprehension,
but you're doing great. Paul said the same thing Paul
Belucas when he was doing the call with me. He's like, hey,
I'm a little nervous. I don't know if I can
do this. He did fine. You did just fine. Maybe
we'll have you on the mic again later this season.
All right, thank you, all right, thanks Lily. We're gonna
(33:14):
take a great break. We'll be right by Gilds.
Speaker 3 (33:16):
Madison. Badger's leading this.
Speaker 1 (33:19):
One one nothing with eighteen shots on goal just five
shots on goal for Murphy Hurst.
Speaker 3 (33:25):
They are unranked, but they did receive votes.
Speaker 1 (33:28):
In the latest poll in the w In the US
Echo poll, the Badgers, of course, still at the top
of that ranking. Badger's trying to get another Trophyia is
much cooler looking. It's on display in the lobby here
at the Ford Ice Center. It's an actual guitar. It's
not like a little, tiny, you know, metal guitar, a
(33:49):
little trophy guitar shaped trophy. It's an actual guitar, a
custom guitar. It's blue.
Speaker 3 (33:55):
I'm looking behind me now in the.
Speaker 1 (33:56):
Bar they have the guitar trophy set up the Smathfield
Showcase logo on it in the year. But here's what
I'm thinking. They have all the previous year's guitars hung up.
I hope there's two because I'm hoping the Badgers can
take home that guitar. But it doesn't look like they're
gonna be able to do so as they put that
in the bar right behind me here in the press box.
(34:17):
So it'd be unfortunate if the Badgers weren't able to
take that home.
Speaker 3 (34:21):
But anyway, back to the rankings.
Speaker 1 (34:23):
As I said mercy Hurst receiving votes, they just received
two votes, as the least number of votes out of
all the teams that did receive votes. Saint Thomas, who
were number fifteen last weekend, but after getting swept by
the Badgers, no longer in the rankings. They received ten votes.
Boston College also receiving ten votes. Yale, though, on the
other hand, receiving the most votes. They were also in
(34:45):
the rankings. They were at number ten at one point,
but they just kept on losing. They lost to Harvard
unranked Harvard a couple of weeks ago, which is absolutely
detrimental for them, but they are still receiving thirty three votes.
They're very close to getting back into the rankings. There
are two new teams in the rankings WCACHA team Minnesota
State with the Badgers are gonna have to face off
(35:07):
against in a couple of weeks. They are now number fifteen.
Eighty seven is their record, which doesn't seem like a
good record to be in the.
Speaker 3 (35:15):
Rankings, in the top fifteen.
Speaker 1 (35:18):
But I'll tell you what, when you're on the WCCHA
and you got to play against teams like Minnesota, Wisconsin,
Ohio State, who by the way, are one, two and
three in the country, then your record is certainly gonna
reflect that. But they are in the fifteen spot. Saint
Cloud State, who the Badgers played when they were number
ten two weeks ago, have moved down a couple of ranks.
They were number ten in the last poll. They moved
(35:38):
down four spots. They're five to ten this season. They're
at number fourteen, and then the second non ranked team
are the eight.
Speaker 3 (35:45):
And four Princeton team.
Speaker 1 (35:47):
Now Princeton was in this Snashal showcase a couple of
years ago, and they find themselves in the top fifteen ranking.
Speaker 3 (35:56):
For the first time this season at number thirteen.
Speaker 1 (35:59):
And then the two teams outside the top ten, Colgate
dropping down a spot and Brown going up with spot,
so they were able to take Colgate's spot. They just
flip flopped in the eleven and twelve spots and then
into the top ten. Clarkson, Who's gonna be playing against
Saint Thomas this weekend in DC as a part of
their tournament. They're gonna be playing for another trophy. They
(36:20):
were number eleven in the last pole, so they moved
up as well. Clarkson finally back in the top ten.
They had to play against Wisconsin again in Saint Cloud State,
going all the way down to number fourteen. So they'll
stay in the rankings, but you never know if they
can't get another win this weekend. Saint Cloud State could
be out of the rankings for the first time this season.
(36:40):
Minnesota State getting a big win today against Dartmouth five nothing,
and then the big one today another game in Washington, DC.
It is the number two Ohio State versus the number
twelve Colgate. Now that's gonna be an interesting matchup. Colgate
a really good team, a sneaky team for the Buckeys
(37:00):
are gonna try and stay in their number two spot
in Minnesota desperately wants that spot back. The only game
in college women hockey tomorrow will be the Wisconsin Badger
game against stone Hill at twelve pm Central time here
in Nashville for a chance for the Badgers to win
the tournament. It was Stonehill versus Mercy Hurst yesterday here
(37:23):
at the Ford Ice Center, so Mercy Arst has already
had a chance to feel out this ice tense why
the Badgers haven't really had a two dominant of a
first period, but nonetheless the Badgers still have the lead.
It was Lacy Eden that scored the solo goal. It
was Caroline Harvey that took a shot right off the
draw on the right side and then it was deflected
(37:43):
in front by Lacy Eden, who was able to get
that one in and give the Badgers the league. But
that's gonna conclude our intermission report brought to you by
A Fields Madison.
Speaker 3 (37:54):
Stay tuned for the second.
Speaker 1 (37:56):
Period here in Nashville, don't go anywhere on you one
hundred point nine fort Ice Center's set to begin period
number two Aiden Michael's Mark Greenhall here with you and
the way we go to start the second period greedy.
Speaker 2 (38:09):
Yeah, Let's see if the gals are ready to go again.
Pick up where we left off here we win to draw.
Speaker 1 (38:16):
There you go. Cassie Hall wins the opening draw at
center ice to begin period number two in Nashville. At
center ice is Shalen looking for an option, can't find anyone,
so finds Leila.
Speaker 3 (38:30):
Edwards instead for Wisconsin.
Speaker 2 (38:32):
Whoops.
Speaker 1 (38:32):
Gorbotenko loses a footing yeh, and Hall can't keep it
in and it gets out to the neutral zone. Shallon
and poked at there by Gorbatenko. It comes free from
McKinley on the right side for Mercy. Hurst sends it
back behind the goal, skips away from McNaughton, and Edwards
picks it up. Edwards got it to Gorbutenko kept it
(38:54):
at the point by van Netton mas it Oh centering
pass over the stick of Venusio, down low by Van
Netton into the corner, now picking it up and then
getting taken down.
Speaker 3 (39:08):
By Venusia was a laker.
Speaker 2 (39:10):
Here we go.
Speaker 1 (39:11):
Here comes Edwards on the right side, entering the zone,
takes a shot patted away. Gorbtenko controls it and spins
away at the left circle. Cassi Hall left point, slides
it across for Eden. It skips over her stick Gorbitenko
back behind the goal and then picking it up is
Newtonan Newton gets it back at center ice, dumps that
(39:36):
one down, picked up by Harvey behind the Badger goal,
nearly gives that one away Newton and fighting for it
there with Eden gets the better of Eden at the
point Young sends that one down behind the goal for Newton,
and Newton then tangled up there with Harvey. Newton in
toward Gold, deflected by lollicker and into the glove of
(39:58):
Avian McNutt.
Speaker 2 (39:59):
One thing you don't want to do is allow the
opponent to control the pucket all behind your own defense.
You know your own goal. Uh are really tight corners
in this rink and not much space behind the goal line.
In the end wall, So you really got to get
that thing up and out of there if it's behind
her net.
Speaker 3 (40:17):
Lakers win the draw.
Speaker 1 (40:18):
Mandeville toward goal, It's picked up by Jungles. The Strets
pass to fight Eaton on the breakaway saves Sims them
the rebound saved again. Puck is behind the goal picking
it up his sha what a chance for Wisconsin. Yeah,
two on Oh there, I.
Speaker 2 (40:36):
Was hoping Eden could have buried that one.
Speaker 1 (40:39):
Was looking for her second of the day.
Speaker 2 (40:41):
Got she mean a nice save there.
Speaker 1 (40:44):
It comes free for Young chasing it as Sims. Evans
picks it up behind the goal. Harvey at cent her
ice gets it across the Jungles. The Strets pass the Sims.
Now Here comes Sims on the left side and a
very very late offside call.
Speaker 2 (41:01):
A little delayed action on that call, but uh, we're
gonna have to face it off just outside the blue line.
Speaker 1 (41:09):
And it was Vimian Jungles that started that.
Speaker 2 (41:11):
Yep, that play. Oh that was yeah a nice home
run pass.
Speaker 3 (41:14):
Yeah out brilliantly.
Speaker 2 (41:17):
Yeah, set it up about a zone and a half
or two to Eden.
Speaker 1 (41:22):
Were there to make the save.
Speaker 3 (41:23):
Was lou Jean, who's had quite the.
Speaker 1 (41:25):
Job to do in this game so far. Nineteen saves
already on twenty shots up ahead, gets by Murphy there
is Cheriko sends out down and why to the goal
just wide now picked up his end right and right,
trying to clear the zone. Mahoney pokes it to keep
(41:46):
it in for the time being. It goes back behind
the Badger goal. Mackenzie Jones picks it up in Wisconsin,
Nelson keeping it in, Jones getting it away from Cherokee.
Three minutes gone here in the second period, Badgers lead
one nothing man an opportunity on the breakaway.
Speaker 3 (42:03):
A moment ago by Lacy Eaton.
Speaker 1 (42:06):
It was there to negate the icing, but venusia I
do goes all the way down, chasing in his potter.
Right behind her is Shallon. McCarthy picks it up on
the left side, staying on it out in front, takes
a shot blocked in front and the zone is cleared.
Speaker 2 (42:24):
Yeah, that was a heck of a block by their
defenseman there, Lejung.
Speaker 1 (42:29):
And it goes all the way down for McNaughton to grab.
But the defense is gonna have a lot to do
from her. In period number two, the only goal is
Lacy Eden's twenty one shots. I'm going for the Badgers
to Mercy Hursts six five in the first period for
them just change. In the second period they win the draw.
Here Mandeville takes a shot deflected wide of the goal.
(42:50):
O Drag shoots and it is say.
Speaker 2 (42:54):
Deflected on it seven.
Speaker 1 (42:58):
Cassie Hall wins the draw for Wisconsin and Caroline Harvey
at the point. It's a Jungles Jungles down low off
the end boards. Gob Tenco touches it along to find
Edwards in the corner. Jungles left point. Now here's Harvey
at the right point, stopping up at the right circle.
Harvey twisting and turning, sends that one down to Hall,
who got it poked away and out of the zone
(43:18):
by Berlin lollicker. You know, back up ahead.
Speaker 2 (43:21):
Boy, Yeah. Earlier in need shift, Jungles made a wise
play in this rink. She shot it wide on purpose.
Such a lively end wall and really tight rink and
somebody that's near the net can whack it in from there,
you know.
Speaker 1 (43:33):
Yeah, heads up player to realize how bouncy these walls are.
Speaker 2 (43:36):
Yeah, and the corners are tight.
Speaker 1 (43:39):
Edwards drops it off for Hall. Harvey makes a nice
move yeah to get around CHEROKEI. Harvey still with it
left circles centering pass buck loose in front. Badgers keep
the zone. Jungles turns and shoots. It's blocked by Lollacker.
Speaker 2 (43:54):
Great job by Jungles to keep it in his zone
and get a shot off.
Speaker 1 (44:00):
Zone is finally cleared. Murphy at center Ice gives it away.
Here is Cherokee one on one there with Murphy. Murphy
picks it up behind the Badger goal, being hounded by Cherokee,
being pushed up against the boards now by Cherokee's Ava Murphy.
Cassie Hall shovels it along, finds Manusio in the corner
and it's picked up by Sims, who can clear the zone. Eden,
(44:23):
being tied up there with Mahoney, picks it up in
the Badger zone behind the back past the Sims. Sims
at center Ice finds Eden, eat it to the left
side to the middle of the Sims slides it across
the ace. DayLA's shapov. Oh my goodness, and the Badgers
take a two to nothing lead in Nashville.
Speaker 2 (44:44):
That was just some textbook passing there and stick the
stick between Eden and Sims and the goal by Shappy.
Oh my goodness, it's.
Speaker 1 (44:58):
The sixth goal to see in for shapovali Vova, her
first goal since her injury. Has just had one point
since her return from injury. Man, it's her second scores
a beautiful goal and it's an amazing passing play that
results in a Badger's second goal as they lead to
nothing for thirteen minutes to go in the second.
Speaker 2 (45:18):
Yeah, just great TikTok TikTok passing there by Eden and
Simms prior to that score.
Speaker 3 (45:24):
Yeah, Badger's looking for another one.
Speaker 1 (45:27):
It's Eden right there in a doorstep and Lougain makes
the stop. But the Badgers are now trying to pile
on here against the Lakers.
Speaker 2 (45:37):
I like that pressure we're given there, Aiden, Yeah, some
heavy pressure, some good passing, great pass.
Speaker 3 (45:43):
You were turnovers already as well on an offensive.
Speaker 2 (45:46):
And we're engaging more on faceoffs, which we need to
do whether they win it or we do it. You
win it. You got to get on the puck right away.
Speaker 1 (45:55):
Scanner wins the draw to end right who backhands that
one toward the goal, but it goes wide. Venusio at
center ice skates into her own zone being pressured there
by Avery Norman. Venusio gets taken down, goes into the wall.
Venusia gets right back up and picks the puck up
as well. Scannal trying to get it free. Taking that
(46:18):
one out was Potter, but gave it away to Norman.
Potter wins it right back behind the goal. Puck comes
free again, trying to clear his end right, and you
got all to Scannal. A two on two. Now here's
Scandal on the left side. Scannel rips the shot deflected
and over the goal.
Speaker 2 (46:33):
Yeah, I think somebody got a stick on that have
to send its way way high.
Speaker 1 (46:39):
And Scannal, who is back playing center now in that
third line with en Right and Pekin' Hoggin creating a
nice play started by Claire Enwright in her own zone.
And now you've got that fourth line back out for Wisconsin.
They were lively in their last shift. The card on
the draw for Wisconsin, gonna take it there with Julia
Perus fourth line versus first line.
Speaker 2 (47:03):
I like this line though.
Speaker 1 (47:05):
They really do it, and there's some confusion here. They're
not dropping the puck.
Speaker 2 (47:13):
My theory is let her fly man get that puck
in play.
Speaker 1 (47:17):
And now Pa Card gets kicked out of the drags,
and it looks like Halverson's going to the box with
a Laker as well.
Speaker 2 (47:24):
That's kind of weird.
Speaker 1 (47:25):
Huh.
Speaker 2 (47:26):
I'm not sure are they gonna.
Speaker 1 (47:27):
And they're laughing at each other too.
Speaker 2 (47:28):
There you know, are they taking two players to the
box here?
Speaker 1 (47:32):
Yeah, it looks like they said Van Netton and and Halverson. Yeah,
I think they were just a little too far. They're
a little too close to the face off dotter or something.
The referee told them to be fair. Yeah, three or
four times they didn't listen. But I've never seen a
penalty call.
Speaker 2 (47:47):
No, I haven't either. Really, I don't think it was anything.
It really warranted to sit those players, But uh, the
official makes that decision and and he's gonna match it
up to here. So we're gonna have a little four
on four are weird?
Speaker 1 (48:01):
Yeah, there's the fourth skater for the Lakers coming on now.
Speaker 2 (48:04):
Yeah, so at twelve forty nine left in a period,
we're gonna have four on four for two minutes.
Speaker 1 (48:09):
There you go, what an interesting one. But yeahtheless, we
returned to play with the face off in the mercy
Heart zone. Badgers win the draw, Jungles gets at the
Sims per Use in the corner for mercy Hurst. Peyton
Evans gets that one up ahead the Shallon turned over Sims.
(48:32):
It's a bit of ice there in the corner and
stops off the puck becomes Shalleen sends it across ripping
a shot is per Use off the scale of Shallen
into the netting. What a weird one there, MANI And
looks like she just kicked that one into the nettings.
Speaker 2 (48:47):
Yeah, holy cow.
Speaker 1 (48:50):
And we're twelve twenty to go here in the second period.
We've got four on four hockey and uh, I'll try
and see what the official call would be right for
what those penalties were.
Speaker 2 (49:01):
But you know, we got two clean teams here, you
know what I mean, there's not really any durty place.
It's kind of physical. Uh, you've got to prepare for contact,
but it's all been clean, which is good to see
both teams.
Speaker 3 (49:15):
Officially, it's an unsportsmanlike conduct for both of them.
Speaker 2 (49:18):
Okay, so there you go.
Speaker 3 (49:19):
Here's Murphy rips the shot, walk it away.
Speaker 2 (49:22):
Good shot.
Speaker 1 (49:23):
Shapovalova, who scored a moment ago, sending that one down
into the corner. Young picks it up for Mercy Hurst
in their own zone. The stretch pass was looking up
ahead for Newton and just missed her. And we get
nice out.
Speaker 2 (49:35):
Well, what's interesting one one official was claiming that it
was ticked off somebody's stick, which would negate the icing,
but the other one felt it's going to be a.
Speaker 1 (49:44):
Nice and there you go.
Speaker 2 (49:45):
So we'll have a face off down here to the
right of their goaltender Logan.
Speaker 1 (49:50):
Minute six to go in the four on four to
Halverson's penalty and van Netton's penalty.
Speaker 2 (49:57):
That was interesting. Those two are sitting down there for
Unsports Unsports book.
Speaker 1 (50:02):
And they were they were laughing at each other, like
why do we just get calls for a penalty, But
but there you go. The officials are not having it.
They made the call, so we have four on four.
Speaker 3 (50:13):
Wins.
Speaker 1 (50:14):
The draw gets it too. Jungles, here's Harvey. Harvey stops
up up the middle Caroline. Harvey takes a shot that's
blockered away. Harvey gets it back left point across the
Jungles has some space. Jungles slides it across. It took
a deflection of the laker.
Speaker 2 (50:30):
And you saw Edwards over there and wanted to thread
it through there, but couldn't. Couldn't squeeze it by that defender.
Speaker 1 (50:37):
Jungles trying to keep it in the zone for Wisconsin.
Can't quite do it, but the Badger's keep possession. There
is Harvey spinning away from Newton and Harvey left circle
the stretch past the Edwards poked away, but one back
by Harvey.
Speaker 3 (50:52):
Shappo.
Speaker 1 (50:53):
Valleva makes a great move, slides it across to Edwards.
Speaker 2 (50:58):
What a playa oh man, Shappy, just dish that over
to Edwardson. Edward's got a nice shot.
Speaker 3 (51:08):
And here's Edwards again.
Speaker 1 (51:10):
They hounded by Metzler, picked up in the corner by Hall.
Cassie Hall skates to the point. Off the bench comes Venusio,
who drops it off for Harvey. Up the middle, Caroline
Harvey spinning away. Harvey still with it. Penalties are over.
Now taking a shot his haul, it's wide of the goal.
(51:31):
Harvey picks it up again at the left point. Caroline
Harvey up the middle to Venusio. Venusio rips a shot
deflected by Eden and saved. Eden picks up the rebound.
Lacy Eden cycling touching the blue line, going to the
right side it's still it's eating a shot save again,
and the Badgers still keep the zone. The Lakers are tired.
(51:53):
Landy Potter gonna cycle it herself, left side centering past
Young got to skate to it.
Speaker 2 (51:58):
Yeah, you didn't quite get through there.
Speaker 3 (52:00):
And finally the Lakers can clear.
Speaker 1 (52:02):
They hope it doesn't go all the way down for
an icing, and it will, so the tired Lakers will change.
Speaker 3 (52:09):
Yeah, oh, nightmare rotation.
Speaker 2 (52:12):
Yeah for mercy Hurst, probably feeling like an eternity out there. Yeah,
after that time spent in their own defensive end for
so long, they can't come off yet.
Speaker 1 (52:22):
You know what, Sometimes when it's a four on four
the Badgery, it feels like they're on the power play. Yeah,
they really do excel in these four on four situations.
And once the penalties expired, the Lakers were not able
to get the puck out of their zone.
Speaker 3 (52:36):
Mercy Hurst wins.
Speaker 1 (52:37):
The draw, but the puck is free of penalty coming up,
pass in front, poking at it is McCarthy and we're
gonna get an interference call.
Speaker 2 (52:48):
Who do we have that going against?
Speaker 1 (52:53):
Yeah, it looks like she's going to the it's going
to the bench of the box here.
Speaker 2 (52:56):
I know it's hard to tell. They've got number twenty.
Speaker 3 (52:59):
One, Regina Metzler from Hungary.
Speaker 2 (53:02):
Metzler will be in the box for two minutes here, so.
Speaker 1 (53:05):
An interference called. The Badgers will go on the power
play for their first power play of the day, following
that four on four the first pair of penalties of
the game. Now the Badgers have the player advantage. Shapovali
Vovo wins the draw. It's picked up by Eden. Left
point is Edwards. Now up the middle is Harvey. Harvey
(53:28):
slides it across the Sims across to Edwards. Save by Lougan.
Beautiful work play.
Speaker 2 (53:33):
Y nice nice one timer by Edwards on her off
wing there, she's just above the left dot and she
gets a nice shot on goal, but a good save
by Logan. They'll face it off to her right to
go here in.
Speaker 1 (53:46):
The second period a minute forty eight on the power play,
Caroline Harvey right off the draw, up the middle to Edwards.
Edwards downloaded, Sims lost it for a moment, picks it
right back up, Sims right side into the right corner,
over shape, drops it off for Sims, Sims behind the goal,
(54:06):
Sims left circle to Edwards Edwards touches it along to
the point for.
Speaker 3 (54:11):
Sims across the Caroline Harvey.
Speaker 1 (54:14):
Nice one shot and it saved captain by Kirsten Simms.
Sims dancing around Shallene Harvey winds up, finds Edwards, great
pass and lift it over by signs a couple of
good looks from the Pacers. They keep the zone though
Caroline Harvey rips the shot.
Speaker 3 (54:33):
It's it's in there.
Speaker 1 (54:37):
And I think Lacy Eden is the player that celebrates.
Man she gets the final touch. Power play go over Wisconsin.
It's three nothing.
Speaker 2 (54:45):
Wow, we saw some great puck movement by that Badger
power play unit. Holy cow, did they move the puck.
Just some great passing ended up in a goal by Eden,
and just a bunch of opportunities created there. It off
the goaltender and trickled up over her head and back
into the net.
Speaker 1 (55:05):
And Lacy Eden, who got things started for Wisconsin to
the first period, assisted on the second goal. And it
looks like she gets the third goal here, But the
officials are gathering around now near the penalty box.
Speaker 2 (55:16):
You're gonna review it.
Speaker 1 (55:17):
Perhaps it looks like they are. I mean, I didn't
see anything there. The puck was definitely loose. I don't
think you can sure.
Speaker 3 (55:22):
I guess goaltender interference would be.
Speaker 2 (55:24):
The potential maybe something if they think somebody preceded the
puck into the blue paint or something like that. We'll
see here.
Speaker 1 (55:31):
And unfortunately we don't have a there's no jumbo tron
here and no replaying that he can get, no.
Speaker 2 (55:36):
Replay Russ, and we'll see. We'll see what happens here.
Hopefully it stands up.
Speaker 1 (55:41):
Yeah, if it stands, it will be Lacy Eden's second
goal of the game. She's been on an absolute terror recently.
It'll be the twelfth goal of the season for twenty
seventh point.
Speaker 2 (55:53):
But just some great passing by that whole power play unit.
Speaker 1 (55:57):
And so we're gonna take quick thirty second break and
when we come back we'll get a decision. We'll be
right back.
Speaker 3 (56:06):
So chasing it all the way back is Mma Venusio with.
Speaker 1 (56:08):
Seven and a half to go here and the Badger's
lead three and offing Venusio long stretch past the Pekan
Hagu Pekan Hogen rips the shot turned away by Lougen
and the zone is cleared by the Lakers, picked up
by Potter now in the Badger zone.
Speaker 3 (56:25):
Whoops poked away by Newton and that tries to.
Speaker 1 (56:28):
Get it back, peking Hog in there to the rescue
to win it back for Wisconsin. In poking at it,
puck is frozen along the end board, Vanusio gets it
up ahead to Enright. Did she get a touch? No,
she did not, So an icing to come with six
fifty eight to go here in the.
Speaker 2 (56:47):
Second, but the right idea there initially back in our
own end when the puck is behind our own goal,
we got to just rim it around, which they did.
We got it up and out of the zone, but
it was an icing unfortunately.
Speaker 1 (57:00):
So this line staying on the ice for Wisconsin, whereas
the Lakers, bringing up their third line taking the draw
is mahoney, Badgers win the draw. Scan Tamma Venusio behind
the net, Lady Potter up ahead to Peak and Hogen
(57:21):
peak in. Hogen gets it to Enright, pokes that one down,
chasing it his scannal. Evans shovels that one along into
the corner. Lakers can't clear just yet. It comes free
for Evans and they can finally clear touch the long
no icing, says one of the officials. The other official
says the laid off side, so the Badgers get a
(57:44):
break there or Potaco pressuring.
Speaker 2 (57:52):
Unbelievable. She stole it from the goalie back behind the net,
went to wrap it and wide.
Speaker 3 (58:00):
Oh, Gorbatenko just misses.
Speaker 2 (58:03):
Man works so hard to get it and then almost
had a goal. But no.
Speaker 1 (58:08):
Here she is now on the left side. Kelly Gorbatenko
grips the shot, save may, picks up her rebound, brings
it down nicely, getting it to the point as Hall.
Here's Caroline Harvey Harvey left side, Harvey centering past Gorbatenko scored. Wow,
and that one finds the back of the net. Kelly
gorbatenco from a beautiful pass from Caroline Harvey and it's
(58:32):
for nothing Wisconsin.
Speaker 2 (58:34):
Wait, Harvey really sees the ice. She's bringing it down
from the left point, gets about almost to the left
dot and nobody realizes Gorbatenko's on the back door on
the other side. Wide open boom tape the tape goal
and I'm glad Gorbatenko got it too after all her
hard work and then didn't stuff that wrapper around after
she stole it from the goalie. Nice goal.
Speaker 3 (58:56):
Lacy Eden had that goal.
Speaker 1 (58:58):
This allowed scored twenty second later, Gorbtenko misses the net
by a millimeter, ends up scoring about thirty seconds Man
a couple of redemption arcs there. Yeah, so another goal
for Kelly gorbateenco goal number eleven of the season for
Kelly Eden gets taken down. Badger's stayed off side. Eden
(59:18):
wanted a penalty, She won't get one to go.
Speaker 2 (59:24):
Well Man, Harvey got you know, two assists there in
a matter of a few minutes.
Speaker 1 (59:29):
Yeah, and she reached that thirty point mark once again. Wow,
last season or last weekend, and she's just adding on,
piling onto her total.
Speaker 2 (59:38):
A lot of jumped to her step today.
Speaker 1 (59:40):
Oh yeah, defender of the week this week. The wha
she wants to another one of those? He's already got
three this season, fou.
Speaker 2 (59:49):
Yeah, she's a special player, she really is.
Speaker 1 (59:53):
Badger's trying to keep the zone. It skips by Mackenzie Jones,
picked up by Murphy Janes sends that one down back
behind the goals. Lugan gave it away again out in
front eaten.
Speaker 3 (01:00:05):
It's plucked, no puck still loose.
Speaker 1 (01:00:07):
Lougan doesn't ever stick and Murphy can't keep it in
And here.
Speaker 3 (01:00:11):
Comes Burke touched along by Jones.
Speaker 1 (01:00:15):
Jones came over, but Lougan a couple of times already
has not dealt with the.
Speaker 2 (01:00:20):
Puck very well at all, right, And we had word
on that, you know, after watching video and the scouting reports,
that she does like to come home and play the puck,
which she hasn't been very successful at the last couple
of times.
Speaker 1 (01:00:36):
The Badgers have been putting the pressure on her and
it's worked out for them. Jones finds eating at center Ice,
lifts that one along to Sims. Sims the centering pass
looking for Bocard. Yeah, couldn't find her. Sims picks it
right back up, Sims stretched past down. Lowe is looking
at Sims on the rebound with the backhand. It's saved
(01:00:58):
by lou Gain, but Card battling forward in the corner.
Sims tight angle lifts it on, Louging, puck still loose.
Speaker 2 (01:01:07):
Oh Man and the Lakers can clear there's been some
rebounds there.
Speaker 1 (01:01:12):
Burke just sends that one down and goes for a change.
Potter gets taken down a tripping penalty. Coming up and
going to the box will be Kate Donogan as Landy.
Potter draws the penalty and the Badgers go to the
power play with three forty eight to go here in
the second period, they leave four.
Speaker 2 (01:01:32):
Of tell you, uh, you know we were talking about
Logan going out. She likes to go out and play
the puck. As I mentioned earlier, there's not much room
behind the goal here, and I think that has some
effect on it. Players are right on top of you
where you normally on some rinks, we have a little
more space to work with, but tight corners and not
much space between the goal and the end wall.
Speaker 1 (01:01:55):
So we've got Scannal, Gorbatenko, Hall, Potter, and Jungles the
five skaters out for Wisconsin to begin this power playing.
Mercy Hurst wins the draw, though Evans tries to clear,
she can't quite do it.
Speaker 2 (01:02:08):
Let's see if we can see some more of that
good passing and a power play unit here, Hiden, what
are you saying?
Speaker 3 (01:02:13):
Let's see it.
Speaker 1 (01:02:15):
Here's Scandal down load a Potter Potter left point across
the Hall haul off of the Flexen finds Jungles. Now
Potter down low. Scandal takes a whack at it. Couldn't
get a clean shot, but she picks it up. Jungles
across the Hall haul download Gorbetenko, gorbotenco in the corner.
(01:02:36):
Now Jungles rips the shot blocked in front. Gurbatenko chicks
in the rebound. She gets taken down but stays with it.
Now here's Scandal Scannal in the corner at the point
the Jungles jungles across the Cassie Hall. Cassie Hall rips
the shot save by Low game oh Man.
Speaker 2 (01:02:55):
So a lot of good puck possession and puck movement
there on that power play unit as well. That's the
second unit. Nice to see.
Speaker 1 (01:03:03):
And now the first unit coming back out for Wisconsin. Yeah,
so you've got Sims, Harvey, Chapavva, Eden and Edwards. Of course,
this line has been responsible for most of the firepower
the Badgers have brought this game. They got one on
the power play a.
Speaker 3 (01:03:20):
Little while ago. Let's see if they can get another one.
Speaker 2 (01:03:22):
Eden wins the draw.
Speaker 1 (01:03:24):
Here's Harvey to Edwards. Nice pass to find Sims Simms,
the chape back behind the goal of Sims. The centering
pass wide of the goal picked up by Sims. In
the corner left circle is Edwards. In the left corner
is Sims. Simms behind the net. To Edwards, Edwards to
the point for Harvey as she settles it, Harvey across
(01:03:46):
the Sims. Now here's Edwards. Edwards rips the shot, rebound loose,
it comes Froll and he stores kirston Simms power play goal.
It's five.
Speaker 2 (01:03:58):
What a shot on the on the right wing there
on a rebound. Just a beautiful goal by Sims. After
Edwards has gotten one shot on net there from her
off wing on the left wing. There, beautiful goal by Sims.
Speaker 1 (01:04:12):
Yeah, sow that entire first line has a goal. Chappie,
Lacy and Curson all getting on the store sheet. Man.
And after a one nothing first period, it's now a
four goal first period or second period. It's five to
nothing with two and a half.
Speaker 2 (01:04:27):
To go here, Man, it's nice to see the power
play unit clicking like that, isn't they?
Speaker 1 (01:04:31):
Oh yeah, it's so beautiful the way they can connect
those passes, find a shot and get it in the
back of the net. Yeah, that's why they have one
of the best power play units in the country, and
certainly the best with wha two minutes to go here
in the second period, here's Emma Venusio taking it from
(01:04:54):
behind her own goal. Venusio still with it going coast
to coast, and the Venus shoots and it's saved. Oh
what a goal that would have been.
Speaker 2 (01:05:03):
I know. She came down that left wing end to
end actually and put a nice shout on net and
I thought maybe there'd be a rebound to work with,
but Luggan hung onto it.
Speaker 1 (01:05:13):
What a chance there. Yeah, for Wisconsin, they don't want
to stop at five. They want to pile on, and
especially in a tournament like this where it's not necessarily
a bracket, gold difference does.
Speaker 2 (01:05:21):
Matter, right, Yeah, it's nice to see.
Speaker 1 (01:05:26):
Put card behind the net loses it out, kept in
the weather, Badgers. Potter sends that one back behind the goal,
picked up now by Shaoleen for Mercy Hursts skating with
it in her own zone, trying to get it clear,
but it's picked up by Halverson. Halverson got hit from
behind end of the boards, a penalty coming up.
Speaker 3 (01:05:48):
Potter gives a little cross check.
Speaker 1 (01:05:49):
She has some words as well for Juliet per use.
Speaker 2 (01:05:53):
She took offense after she saw her teammate get decked.
Is that hall that it was?
Speaker 1 (01:05:58):
Hannah Halferson?
Speaker 2 (01:05:59):
Okay, yeah, I'm sorry, and that's I mean that's a
dangerous place.
Speaker 1 (01:06:03):
She's yeah, because he's not too close to the board.
She's far enough from the boards, and when she gets hit,
she just goes in awkwardly.
Speaker 2 (01:06:08):
And the trainer's steph Aren't is right there on it
because she can tell that Elerson might need a little assistance.
Speaker 1 (01:06:15):
Here.
Speaker 2 (01:06:16):
We'll see what the call is here.
Speaker 1 (01:06:18):
The question is will I mean, this could potentially be
a five minute major, but also could Laney Potter that's
just d the box.
Speaker 2 (01:06:24):
I mean, yeah, she might for retaliation some kind, but
if I were to.
Speaker 1 (01:06:29):
Guess, it could be maybe a five minute power, a
five minute penalty for per use, and then maybe Potter.
Speaker 3 (01:06:33):
Goes off or two. But yeah, but yeah, that was dangerous,
I mean very much.
Speaker 2 (01:06:37):
So whenever you're that like foot and a half two
feet from the wall and somebody decks you from behind,
you're so vulnerable. I don't want to see anybody get
hurt like that. No, not at all, regardless of what
team they're on.
Speaker 1 (01:06:50):
And it looks like they're opening the door for per use.
Her night could be done.
Speaker 2 (01:06:54):
I think you're right, and there you go. Per use
is done. Yeah, yep, So show under the door or
at least for the period.
Speaker 1 (01:07:01):
In the past that it could be a ten minims contact,
but I would imagine that's a that's a game, and
that would also indicate that it's likely a five minute
power play.
Speaker 2 (01:07:11):
We'll see if they announced anything here. I was kind
of surprised when they didn't announce that uh y negation
of the goal. No, it wasn't like we're napping up
here in the press box. They didn't say anything verbally
or indicate anything with their hands.
Speaker 1 (01:07:26):
Yeah, they did not, So referee Sarah Delaney is having
words with the Wisconsin coaching staff. The referees will get
together perhaps once more. Yeah, we'll see what we got here,
and Delaney will make the announcement. Perhaps I didn't see
they just don't have the mics.
Speaker 2 (01:07:45):
I don't see Potter going to the bench. Yeah, I
think it's a power play for US five on four.
Speaker 1 (01:07:50):
It looks like yeah, and Halverson she's at least walking
as we can see her behind the play, but.
Speaker 2 (01:07:56):
It looks like a five minute or up on the Scoreboar.
Speaker 1 (01:07:58):
Yeah, so no announcement of officially, but as you said
on the board, it's a five minutes, so the Badgers
will have a five minute power play now with a
minute twenty five to go here in the first scandal
to Potter, Potter down those centering pass that comes free
and the zone is cleared. Can the Badgers perhaps get
one more goal here in the second period, they'll have
(01:08:19):
a large chunk of a power play no matter what
to begin the third. Yep, but we'll see if they
can out of well. Remember you can score as many
goals as you want on a five minute power play.
Here's Potter tight angle shot number two. The Badgers with
forty three shots on goal in the game. Mercy Hurst
have six. They had one shot on goal in this
entire period. The Badgers had four doles. And when we
(01:08:42):
come back, they'll have three minutes and thirty seconds of
a power play because of that five minute penalty going
against per use. We're gonna take a quick break when
we come back the intermission report on you one hundred
point nine and Greeny, what a period.
Speaker 2 (01:08:55):
Yeah, and I like to see the power play clicking,
and they've got a lot an opportunity to do some
more on that here and the start the third.
Speaker 1 (01:09:01):
They absolutely do, so stay tuned. We'll be right back.
Find Hannah Halverson to see if she has gone in
the locker room or she's still being tended to by
Steph Hart, the trainer that are just tuning in. The
Badgers lead five to nothing after two periods. They've got
forty three shots on goal. The Mercy Hurst Lakers have
just six. They had five shots a goal in the
first period, just one in total in the second period.
(01:09:24):
It was absolute domination from the Badgers.
Speaker 3 (01:09:27):
In the second period they added four goals.
Speaker 1 (01:09:29):
Lacy Eden has two goals today, looking for the hat trick.
Speaker 3 (01:09:32):
And Adela's chapel ballet.
Speaker 1 (01:09:33):
Vava I had a goal as well, a beautiful passing
play from the Badger first line resulting in a goal
for Shappie, her first goal since the injury she suffered
a few weeks ago. It's been pretty slow for her
since the return of her injury, just one assist since
the injury heading into today's games. But then, like I said,
getting on the score sheet, so finally getting another goal
(01:09:55):
to her name. That was goal number six of the season.
Speaker 3 (01:09:58):
Badgers were on four on four for a bit.
Speaker 1 (01:10:01):
It was one of the weirder penalties we've seen. An
unsportsmanlike calls a faceoff in the Mercy Hearst zone. It
was Hannah Halverson and I believe it was Regina Metzler
for Mercy Hurst. We were seeing the referees kind of
yelling toward their direction, saying, hey, back up, you know
you don't want to be too close to the faceoff
dot on a faceoff like that, or I guess you
(01:10:23):
can't be And we heard it three or four times
for the referee, and before they even dropped the puck,
the referee had enough and said, you guys are both
going to the box, so an unsportsman like penalty calls
for both of them.
Speaker 3 (01:10:34):
We with a four on four with the Badgers, of
course excelled.
Speaker 1 (01:10:38):
It almost feels like a power play when the Badgers
are playing four on four. So they got a couple
of good chances. Didn't score on that per se, but
had a couple of good chances. They ended up going
on the power play and scoring goal. Lacey Eden had
the goal in the power play, but then it was
ruled out. It was her almost her second goal of
the game, but it was disallowed. And then about twenty
(01:10:59):
seconds like her guests who Lacey Eden scored the goal
in the power play to give the Badgers an extension
of their lead, and then Kelly Gerbertenko had a similar thing.
Back behind the goal was goaltender Magdalena and Lugen, who
was playing the puck, didn't see Kelly Gorbertenko. Gorbertenko stripper
of the puck and with her long reach, wrapped it
around but just went wide of the goal, resulting in
(01:11:23):
a broken play and nothing to come from that.
Speaker 3 (01:11:26):
But then about thirty seconds later.
Speaker 1 (01:11:28):
Kelly Gerbertenko is being was found by Caroline Harvey with
a beautiful stretch ice pass and Gorbatenko just sniped it
block her side on Magdalena Lougen to extend the Badger
lead again. As I said, They've got five goals, Mercyhurst
have six shots. It is quite the one sided game.
(01:11:48):
And this is certainly a message to send to stone
Hill because Mercyhurst is quite the team. As I mentioned
in the first intermission, they received two votes in the poll.
They are certainly a top twenty team, you could even
say a top seventeen team in the country, and the
Badgers are absolutely demolishing them. And this is a little
(01:12:08):
different to the icebreaker tournament in Schenectady. And what I
mean by that is in the icebreaker tournament. There were
four teams and two games. You play in a semifinal
game and then you go playing the championship game. If
you advance, which the Badgers did, they won that tournament.
This is a tournament, but it's a bit different. There
are only three teams. It's stone Hill, Mercy Hurst, Wisconsin,
(01:12:29):
Mercy Hurston. Stone Hill played yesterday Wisconsin and Mercy Hurston
of course playing right now and then tomorrow will be
the final game between Wisconsin and stone Hill, and it
all depends on who has the better record, and it
comes down to goal difference. And the Badgers, of course,
with this five to nothing lead in the second period,
they're hoping to add on as well.
Speaker 3 (01:12:48):
Just because you win the two games, it doesn't.
Speaker 1 (01:12:51):
Mean you're going to win that tournament. But the Badgers
of course have a pretty big lead on the goal
differential side of things with that five goal lead, and
they're hoping to add more to that total against stone Hill.
If you're just joining us here in the intermission report
presented by Fields Madison, they get an actual guitar as
a trophy, and I don't know if they're gonna bring
(01:13:11):
it on the ice or not. You don't want to
damage that thing of beauty, and I don't think the
Badger's get to keep it.
Speaker 3 (01:13:17):
As I mentioned, there's a bar behind me and I'm.
Speaker 1 (01:13:19):
Looking at the wall. They have the former trophies and
the former winners sort of displayed on the walls here
in this bar. So the thought is that the Badgers
aren't gonna get to take home that guitar, which sucks,
because that's a great trophy. It's a cool looking trophy.
You know, I've never seen a guitar as a trophy.
I'm not sure there are many tournaments in the world
where you get a guitar after winning it, especially a
(01:13:42):
hockey tournament. Nonetheless, but we are in Nashville. We're mentioning
at the beginning of the broadcast as joking with Greeney
that during warmups we were hearing music and the student,
the brand communication student assistant Lily Wakefield, that we were
interviewing in the first intermission, she was like, aid and
deserted live music like this, This girl's pretty good. I'm like, no, Lily,
like this is We're in a hockey rink, you know,
(01:14:04):
we're in a practice facility. There's no way that's live.
It's probably just the ox. She's like, all right. Then
I went down there and I'm like, wait, no, there
is actually live music. And only in Nashville could you
walk into a practice facility and go and see live music.
I mean there was live music in the airport when
we arrived yesterday. There's live music at about every bar
(01:14:24):
you could imagine just looking at from the outside. There
are some of those bars on Broadway that are three
or four stories high, and there's a different band on
each floor. So there's plenty of music to go around
here in Nashville. It's great to be here this weekend
after Thanksgiving. As I said before my voice, I'm a
(01:14:46):
little sick. I'm a little under the weather. I've had
to deal with a bit of a cold the last
few days, and unfortunately it's starting to show here. So
hopefully i'll be good for tomorrow as well. But I
apologize if that bother some of you guys, but hopefully I'll.
Speaker 3 (01:15:00):
Be good to go.
Speaker 1 (01:15:01):
I've been taking a lot of cough drops and and
drinking a lot of water, doing what I can to
make sure the broadcast is going smoothly. But anyway, we're
here in Nashall's the Smashville Women's Collegiate Hockey Showcase Stonehill tomorrow.
That'll be at noon on Sunday, the thirtieth, just on
the cusp of December, where the Badgers will then head
(01:15:24):
to Ohio State on Friday and Saturday. That's the big matchup.
The Badgers split the series with number three Minnesota a
few weeks ago on Hollow Weekend. Now they have to
play against number two Ohio State. This could be the
title turning series. Ohio State are thirteen and one, the
(01:15:45):
Badgers are fourteen one and one. Ohio State have a
game today, of course, so we'll keep you updated on
mat We'll probably get the end of it here at
least Tomorrow will give you the update on Ohio State
for sure. But if they split the series, the thought
is that the Badgers will stay in Amber one. But
if Ohio State comes away with the sweep, it is
more than likely that they will take the number one
(01:16:06):
spot off of Wisconsin for the first time this season.
The Badgers have had that number one spot for quite
some time, and of course this is going to be
the first time that these two teams play since that
National Championship game. You take a look at the last
three national championship or last two national championship games. Of course,
it was Ohio State versus Wisconsin two years ago where
(01:16:30):
Ohio State won that game, and then of course last
year one of the best college hockey games in recent memory,
where the Badgers got the late time goal with eighteen
point nine seconds to go on a penalty shot and
then winning it in overtime, both goals from Kirsten Simms.
Speaker 3 (01:16:46):
It was absolute cinema that game.
Speaker 1 (01:16:49):
That game was, and the Badgers and Buckeyes will duel again,
but it will be in Columbus, the Ohio State ice rink.
That is a tough place to play against their play at.
We always mentioned how hard it is to play at
lebon Arena, but it is equally as hard to play
at the Ohio State ice rink, especially when it's the
(01:17:11):
number two team in the countries.
Speaker 3 (01:17:12):
It is going to be quite the game. Paul Brown
will be back on the call.
Speaker 1 (01:17:16):
With Mark Greenhall. As always, I'll be doing the intermission
there from studio in Madison. That'll be a five pm
game Central Time on Friday and at two pm game
on Saturday.
Speaker 3 (01:17:29):
But the Badgers are gonna have quite the awayte slate
coming up.
Speaker 1 (01:17:34):
They've got to go to Duluth right after that. We
saw what happened against the luth at Lebonn earlier this season.
Badgers almost had a split, but in that second game
it was a late goal for Wisconsin and then a
winning goal with eight seconds to go from Cassie Hall
to sweep Minnesota Duluth.
Speaker 3 (01:17:49):
But that's still gonna be a tough one.
Speaker 1 (01:17:50):
That's a ranked matchup. Then we'll go away to Saint
Paul and at Saint Thomas in January, and the Badgers,
of course just played Saint Thomas last weekend. Nearly suffered
a loss in that second game, but we're able to
tie it up late again and win in overtime and
again thanks to Cassie Hall saving the day for Wisconsin.
And then finally the Badgers back at home for the
(01:18:12):
first time in twenty twenty six January twenty fourth and
twenty fifth, a one pm game and an eleven am
game against Bamidgie State. They opened the season against the
Beavers with a pretty dominant sweep against them. They're one
of three teams to have been beaten by the Badgers
over one hundred times. And then fast forwarding to January
(01:18:33):
and February, which we're not gonna go too much indocause
we're quite away from that, but those are back to
back series against Minnesota at Ritta Arena in Minneapolis, the
place for the Badgers won the national championship last year,
and then at Lebon Arena in February. To begin February,
Ohio State at home. Now, that will be an interesting
(01:18:54):
one depending on how this series goes next week, But
for now we're still here in Nashville, Tennessee, were I'll
enjoy the time here in the Music City, and the
Badgers are looking to take home their second trophy of
the season, of course, taking home that less cool looking
trophy that they picked up in Schenectady and New York
a couple months ago. They're looking to take home the
(01:19:15):
guitar in the Smashville Women's Collegiate Hockey Showcase here in Nashville,
here at the Terry Crisp Rink at the Ford Ice Center.
We're gonna take a quick break when we come back.
More Intermission report presented by Fields Madison, So don't go anywhere.
Nashville hockey history was a big part of the group
to bring Nashville, an NHL franchise, was an analyst on
(01:19:37):
TV for them for sixteen years. Was a player as well,
two times Stanley Cup champion as a player in seventy
four and seventy five with the Flyers, and then was
a coach and won the Cup in eighty nine with
the Calgary Flames. He was also the first head coach
in Tampa Bay Lightning history back in nineteen ninety two,
so he has this rink named after him and Greene
(01:19:58):
joining me. Now, pretty dominant second period, as we mentioned,
five nothing. The Badgers lead now and I'm just looking
at the shot totals. Five goal for Wisconsin, six shots
for Mercy Ears.
Speaker 5 (01:20:08):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:20:08):
Well, and we'll probably see a few more shots here.
Being on a power play for the first three and
a half minutes of the third period. We have made
a goalie change. We've got Chloe Baker in there, gonna
take Aba McNaughton's place to get a little game time in.
You know, she's worked hard all year and very capable,
so she'll be in the net for the third period
(01:20:30):
here for us.
Speaker 1 (01:20:31):
That's great to see Hermosa Beach native.
Speaker 2 (01:20:33):
Yeah, Chloe Baker, Yeah, yeah, right.
Speaker 1 (01:20:35):
Next to my hometown, so good to see her on
the ice for the first time this season. It's usually
Riah Stewart that's the backup for Avin McNaughton, but this
time it'll be Chloe Baker. And I mean Chloe's gonna
likely be the backup if Avian McNaughton.
Speaker 3 (01:20:50):
Gets to call up for the Olympics.
Speaker 2 (01:20:52):
Well, we'll see. Riah is probably we'll see what happens.
She might start tomorrow, you know, we go, so we'll see.
Speaker 1 (01:21:01):
They will.
Speaker 3 (01:21:02):
That does beg the question.
Speaker 1 (01:21:03):
But nonetheless, like you said, Chloe Baker to start in
goal for our starting goal, start the third period and
goal yep this season, which means if there is a
shutout at the end of things, Avid McNaughton will not
get credited with the shoutout. That'll be her third time right.
Speaker 3 (01:21:17):
Where the team gets a shut out, but it doesn't
go on the.
Speaker 2 (01:21:19):
Stat sheet right as it should, I think myself. But
I'm a goalie, so I'm a little biased there.
Speaker 3 (01:21:25):
I mean, I agree with you though, yeah, I agree.
Speaker 1 (01:21:27):
But either way, the Badgers skating on the ice now
led by Chloe Baker, who starts in goal.
Speaker 2 (01:21:36):
Well, one thing we want to do here is you
don't want a game like this with the score being
what it is or anything. You don't want to develop
any bad habits. Don't play with according to the score.
Play like you should play. You know, yeah, play each
shift like it really matters, because it does. In order
to end up way up where you want to be
for playoffs at the end of the year, you got
to use each shift to each game to develop and
(01:21:58):
get better.
Speaker 1 (01:22:00):
So Lacey Eden is on hat trick watch. She's got
two goals today. I mean technically she's got three. The
first one was just allowed and she's able to score
just a few seconds later. But nonetheless, ten seconds before
we start period number three, the Badgers lead five nothing.
They'll have the power play for three and a half
(01:22:22):
minutes because of that five minute major to Julia Peruse.
Now I know she left the ice because it was
under five minutes in that period. I wonder if she's
left the game and I can't tell who's in the
box then, Yet I don't think it's per Use. It
doesn't look like a fifteen, but we'll keep an eye out. Ye. Nonetheless,
here we go to start period number three, Badgers with
(01:22:43):
a lengthy power play to start things off here in Nashville.
Sim's taking it in on the right side, sends that
one down, chasing it as Eden shopovell e Vova kicks
it along to Edwards left point. Now as Harvey Sims,
Sims makes a move centering passed for the wall.
Speaker 2 (01:23:04):
Oh holy cow, must have went off the pipe.
Speaker 1 (01:23:07):
Off the post.
Speaker 3 (01:23:08):
She's celebrated for about a half second.
Speaker 2 (01:23:10):
I thought it went in two For a split second.
From here it.
Speaker 1 (01:23:14):
Looked like it. Another good passing play from Wisconsin resulting
in a big chance, but saved by the iron. Badgers
maintain the zone though here is Lacy. Eden finds Edwards
edwards left circle at the point as Harvey Harvey rips
the shot saved up high by lou Geen. Edward's trying
(01:23:35):
to keep it in. Eden gets at the shop of
Lvova behind the net. Sims right point keeps it in
up the middle, across the Edwards left circle, Edwards down
low off the end boards to Eden. Eden behind the
net looking for a centering pass. Eden's still playing with it,
gets tangled up with the referee there as Evans picks
(01:23:55):
it up for Mercy Hurst and clears the zone just
out of the reach of Marline Harvey. Two minutes to
go now in the power play, So a normal length
power play for Wisconsin. Here Sims in the corner, stops up,
gets around Evans, Sims the with it of the right circle,
skating to the point, lifts one over to Venusio, who
(01:24:16):
misses the net and it trickles all the way down
and it's poked out of the zone by McKinley. Here's
Claren right now for Wisconsin, entering the zone on the
right side, going to the circle, skating behind the net
and right to the point to Murphy. Murphy to Venusio,
a lot of space for Emma. Venusio goes across to
(01:24:37):
en Rder, rips the shot. It saved, big rebound and
then chasing it out of the zone is Ava Murphy
with a minute and a half to go in the
power play. Just under eighteen minutes to go in regulation.
Speaker 2 (01:24:50):
Yeah, then hopped off for pad hard enough. It came
all the way out of the zone on that last
save by Logan.
Speaker 1 (01:24:56):
Here's Murphy finds Venusio left point, back to Murphy at
the right point. Murphy up the middle, drops it off
for Venusio. Venusio stops up and right right circle, deflected
in front by peaking Hogen. Pucks can loose, Murphy is denied.
Wow Venusio trying to keep it in and she does.
Speaker 3 (01:25:16):
Here's peaking Hoggin to McCarthy. It's blocked in front.
Speaker 1 (01:25:21):
Forty nine seconds remain in the power play goes over
the glove of Venusio and the Lakers can clear.
Speaker 2 (01:25:27):
I'm hoping they could have kept it in his own
there the goalie was without her stick for a while.
Speaker 1 (01:25:31):
Now here's passy Hall with speed on the left side
behind the net. First look of the period for this
second unit. Potter skates around McKinley but can't get around Evans,
who tries to clear but gets only as far as
Jungles on the left side. Jungles behind the net, centering
(01:25:53):
pass off a skate. It's loose out in front. Trying
to get it as Gorbutenko. It falls for Lady Potter,
who takes the shot us deflected wide. Final ten seconds
of the power play water Potenko takes out the official
Yeah along the wall there Potter the Jungles power play
over haul, sliding it across to Potter and it's taken
(01:26:16):
away and Metzler gets it up ahead centering that pass
took a deflection and Chloe Baker makes her first save
of the season.
Speaker 2 (01:26:26):
There we go. That's all. It's a good feeling.
Speaker 1 (01:26:30):
That's a big kill for Mercy her though, three and
a half minutes a power play time. That really hit
the period and Lugan had a lot of work to
do and Lacy Eden was just a millimeter away man
off the pipe and Patrick. I mean it was one
of those where she put her hands up for a
second and then realized that it didn't go in. But
I think all of us thought it went in there.
Speaker 3 (01:26:49):
I did as well.
Speaker 1 (01:26:52):
Here's Murphy back behind the goal, Jones up to the
center ice to Bakar. Here's McCarthy inside McCarthy as shot
say made whoops and screaming. Is the mercy Hurst coaching
staff wanting perhaps goaltender interference.
Speaker 2 (01:27:09):
She didn't try and hit her, but I think it
was uh was it Murphy that went into the net?
Speaker 1 (01:27:13):
Yeah, yeah, Murphy or maybe Halverson who by the way
back on the ice, which yeah good, yeah, and uh yeah.
You could just hear the coaching staff mercy Hurst screaming
at the official there. But it's one of those that
just happens.
Speaker 2 (01:27:30):
Yeah, I mean she was just going on that hard.
She wasn't trying to hit the goalie and didn't hit
the goalie exactly.
Speaker 1 (01:27:34):
Jones takes a shot deflect in the front Halverson trying
to get it free up ahead to Donagan. Now for
mercy Hurst taking into the zone. Murphy takes it away
from her and Murphy skates behind. Chloe Baker makes a
nice move off the net there. Yeah, touched it back
behind the net to create some space. Mackenzie Jones up
(01:27:55):
ahead to the card taken away by Donagan. Here's Donogan
rips the sh save by Baker. She hangs on but
then dropped it. But a whistle comes nonetheless and asking
the question. There was a laker asking the referee why
that was blown dead, and it was Avery Burke that
(01:28:18):
was there on the rebound, but the whistle had already gone.
Speaker 2 (01:28:20):
Yep.
Speaker 1 (01:28:21):
Fifteen and a half to go. The Badgers with forty
eight shots on goal, already more shots on net in
this period for Mercyhurst than they had in the entire
second period, so they had one last period they already
have two. But Chloe Baker's made both saves. Eden I'm
behead to sim. Sims on the left side makes a
(01:28:43):
great move. Sims still with it, spins away and tries
to get it to the point find Eden in the
corner instead, spinning away from McKinley, getting it to Venusio,
turning away from Newton and Sims keeping the zone for
the moment. Then it's cleared and then sent all the
way down by Mahoney Chloe Baker back to collect for Wisconsin.
(01:29:07):
Harvey shovels that one to center. Ice taken away by
Norman Metler colliding with Harvey and Norman will be off
side so if you can't touch it. Here's Eden. Eden
on the right side stops up with the blue line
centering past looking for Sims who took Ice just missed
the net.
Speaker 2 (01:29:26):
Yeah from the slot there, picked up by.
Speaker 1 (01:29:29):
Eden and then picked up by Alenius Shahleen at center,
Ice touches one along, Potter chases it into the corner.
Jungles gets there first, pokes one away and gets it
to Potter, who finds Sims. Potter takes a spill, shall
Len picks it up for Mercy Hurst and the zone
is cleared with fourteen minutes to go. In regulation, Lougan
(01:29:55):
sends that one to Alenius and the Mercyhurst zones eating
out with it. Is Nelson picked up at center ice
and we get a whistle. A slash is being called
for Lany Potter is one of the box. I didn't
see it.
Speaker 2 (01:30:10):
No, it was away from the play, and evidently there
must have been a Mercyhurst forward that swung down towards
the zone and evidently Potter slasher. According to the official saw, it.
Speaker 3 (01:30:23):
Looked like Matty Nelson for Mercy.
Speaker 1 (01:30:25):
Herris was almost looking at Lady Potter in the box
and pointing to her knee. So I think Lady was
mad that she was the one that went down earlier. Yeah,
and I think she maybe wanted a penalty and it
was a little frustrated and took a slash.
Speaker 2 (01:30:38):
Yep. Nonetheless, we're on the penalty kill for two minutes. Here.
Speaker 3 (01:30:42):
There you go for the first time today.
Speaker 1 (01:30:44):
The only penalty against Wisconsin before this was the four
on four on sportsmanlike against Halverson. Now it'll be Potter
for a slash. Here's Newton in in the corner for
Mercy Hurst. Man, nothing can't keep it and en Right
can clear the zone.
Speaker 2 (01:30:58):
Yeah, she wisely just said it down the ice softly.
Speaker 1 (01:31:01):
There here is Evans now taking it through the neutral
zone into the Badger zone.
Speaker 3 (01:31:07):
Evans for the NAT takes a shot saved by Baker.
Speaker 2 (01:31:10):
The rebound didn't get through nice saved by Chloe for
a couple of them. Actually, I think.
Speaker 1 (01:31:17):
And now shorthanded is end right. The Badgers had a
short handed goal last weekend thanks to Lacey Eden. The
card gets it to Jones as the Badgers change a
couple picked up at center ice by Young for mercy Hurst.
Lollacker taken away by Eden, who shovels it into the
(01:31:40):
Lakers zone. Minutes ago, on the Potter slash goes all
the way down no icing and taking it up is
lollocker McKinley. The lollocker takes the shot. Oh no, Baker
and they score, son of a gun and Chloe Baker
just let it squeeze by. Yeah, a good bounce for
(01:32:02):
mercy Hurst and Lady Potter's got to be kicking herself
there from that frustration penalty taken mercy Hurst on the board.
Speaker 2 (01:32:11):
Yeah, Chloy made the initial save there she was in
a butterfly kind of squeezing against her chest and it
trickled down barely crossing the goal line for first goal
for mercy Hurst on that power player of theirs.
Speaker 1 (01:32:25):
So mercy Hurst now with ten shots on goal. They
had five after the first period. They've already doubled their
first period total, and so lots of time to go,
twelve thirty six to go here in the third period.
So the Badgers give up that shutout, but they've still
got a four goal lead, and we'll see how they
can answer back as well.
Speaker 2 (01:32:47):
Yeah, yeah, you hate to yield the goal, whether it's
five on five or five on four whatever. Let's see here.
Speaker 1 (01:32:57):
There is Harvey Edwards is gonna skate it out of
the Badger zone, finds Cassie Hall haul into the corner
behind the net, battling for it there with Evans. Evans
comes away.
Speaker 2 (01:33:10):
With it, rubs her off the puck.
Speaker 1 (01:33:14):
Mandeville sends that one around. Donagan touches that one along,
gets it out of the zone Caroline Harvey picks it
up in the Badger zone, getting away there from Burke.
Gorbatenko picks it up at center ice, lost it to
Newton in. Harvey comes to the rescue, picks it up
and skates behind the Badger goal, stretched past from Harvey
(01:33:37):
took a deflection off of Gorbtenko. As the Badgers go
for a change, Mandeville takes a shot to Baker from
the blue line and she'll hang on.
Speaker 2 (01:33:47):
Yep, long shot. She just gloved it, and it looked
like we've.
Speaker 1 (01:33:52):
Seen I've seen that a couple of times in professional hockey,
where you pretend like you're gonna dump it down and
you're looking down to the corner, but then you shoot,
and sometimes the goalie already cheats and goes behind the ned.
But Chloe wasn't falling for that, Nope. So now we
get a face off to the right of Chloe Baker.
Speaker 2 (01:34:11):
Yeah, see here, scandal win to draw.
Speaker 1 (01:34:14):
Or no, it didn't look like anyone really wanted to
draw there. But buck is up for grabs and it's
picked up by peking Hagen who lifts that one out
of the zone at center ICE's Van Netton.
Speaker 3 (01:34:27):
Baker leaves it for Potter. Potter gets taken down.
Speaker 1 (01:34:31):
Penalty coming up, and now there's a body checking called
being drawn by Landy Potter, and that'll be.
Speaker 3 (01:34:40):
Sophie McKinley going to the box.
Speaker 1 (01:34:43):
This time. Potter gets her.
Speaker 2 (01:34:44):
Call, so we'll be on the power play, it looks like, shoot,
what we can do with that here with eleven six
left to go in the game. Yeah, ah, yeah, you
don't want things to get chippy or anything. Yeah, that
had a little bit of that flavor to it.
Speaker 1 (01:35:02):
Yeah for sure.
Speaker 2 (01:35:04):
Hopefully ladies just keep their keep your composure about.
Speaker 1 (01:35:07):
Him, and we'll see what they can do on this
power play. Quite the scary five out for Wisconsin.
Speaker 2 (01:35:14):
Yeah, let's see if we can build on this lead here.
Speaker 1 (01:35:19):
Right off the draw, Edward's falling down, It trickles out
of the zone. Technically four forwards out. Even though Edwards
is normally a defender this season, Harvey, the only true
defender out here is Edwards and now Caroline Harvey. Harvey
rips the shot over the little finds Layla Edwards nice
(01:35:44):
past the Sims Sims toadrag Sims shoes missus the net.
Speaker 2 (01:35:49):
Tried her again across the green upper corner, but a
little too high.
Speaker 1 (01:35:56):
Kirsten Simms right point makes the move sides of the
Edwards just fans on the one timer, but the Badgers
want to keep it in the zone here. Yeah, pressing
it against the barge is maya lenius. It comes free now,
Caroline Harvey in space at the point, takes a shot,
save a rebound loose and the.
Speaker 2 (01:36:13):
Zone is cleared, putting good pressure on We'll probably switch
a few bodies here, yep.
Speaker 1 (01:36:20):
A couple of new players out for Wisconsin. Halfway through
the power play. Halfway through the third period, there's Sims.
Sims tries to find Gorbitenko, touches that one along and
Gorbitenko getting tangled up there with a Laker. It was
a late hit on Gorbitenko and then she just shoved
the Laker to the ground.
Speaker 2 (01:36:39):
Yeah, she kind of took offense to it. I don't
blame her, but hopefully shouldn't get a penalty out of
the deal or anything.
Speaker 1 (01:36:45):
And I mean, Kelly is someone who normally keeps her head, yep.
And I don't think there's going to be any call.
There would be. I guess it would be both players
going off right when there's already a power play. I
can't imagine, So no, no need to confuse it here. No,
And I wasn't a player, but I can't imagine. You're
like getting checked after the whistle.
Speaker 2 (01:37:02):
Right, Yeah, it takes a lot of composure to retaliate
after that, But certainly the wiser thing to do.
Speaker 1 (01:37:10):
So both players will stay on the ice. Gorbertenco and
Young both have a goal today, and now they're going
to be tied up in the corner. Gorbertenko sends it
to the opposite side for Landy Potter. Gorbertenko behind the
net has it Verbertanco into the corner to Cassie Hall
at the right point.
Speaker 3 (01:37:27):
Jungles up the middle, across the Potter, back to Jungles.
Speaker 1 (01:37:31):
Jungles to Hall. Hall rips a shot off the side
of the goal. Gorbatenko picks it up behind the net,
Goverbertanco to Potter. Pottered across the Hall right circle, down
low Gorbatanco, Gorbertenco has it in the corner up to
the point for Jungles. Jungles rips the shot off the
glove and wide of the goal. Finally, ten seconds remaining
(01:37:52):
in the power play, Scandal rips the shot turned away.
Cassie Hall picks it up again, now to Landy Potter
at the point. Potter skating the left circle, centering passed,
didn't get through. Penalties expired or back to five on
five and the zone is cleared. Jungles chasing. She's tired.
Frend is Cherokee.
Speaker 2 (01:38:15):
Got corralled there a little bit given.
Speaker 1 (01:38:19):
Jungle's a nice nice hug there, Yeah, Potter up to
Scannal at center ice. Scannal on the left side makes
a move to the middle. Scannal gets taken away and
Newtonan can skate it out of the zone. Metzler, now
into the Badger zone, tips it around Potter. Murphy picks
(01:38:39):
it up in the corner up to Scannal. Badger's trying
to clear. They can't do it just yet and Landy
Potter will pick it up behind the Badger. Nette getting
around Cherokee now to McCarthy. McCarthy at center ice dumps
and chases as the rest of the Badgers go for
a change. With eight minutes to go here in the
third turned over, it's picked up by Halverson, it to Picard.
(01:39:03):
Marion Bacard takes a shot and it's saved. Good turnover
in a nice move by Hannah Halverson to session.
Speaker 2 (01:39:11):
Nice read by her to keep it in the zone.
Speaker 1 (01:39:15):
Mackenzie Jones being chased by Donagan in her own zone.
Jones spins away from Donaghan and stays with the puck.
Shot from the point turned away by Baker, now picked
up by Murphy. Tied up there with Donagan pushing and shoving.
Here's Picard now taking it up at center ice. The
(01:39:35):
card drops it off for McCarthy. Cand you keep it in, yes,
McCarthy rips the shot.
Speaker 2 (01:39:40):
It's Lucre. I was hoping somebody could ship that thing
in and.
Speaker 1 (01:39:45):
The Lakers can clear. Goes off the official. So the
Badgers are going to take full advantage and regain the
zone right away. Halverson lost it. It comes free from Murphy.
Murphy gave it away. Lakers trying to clear again and
they do seven o five to go. Here in the
third period, Badger's lead five to one, and Sims spins
(01:40:06):
away from McKinley and finds Harvey have ahead on the
left side. Here comes Caroline Harvey, the toadrag shot the
save the rebound.
Speaker 3 (01:40:12):
It's saved again.
Speaker 2 (01:40:15):
Boy, Harvey can make something out of nothing, you know.
Speaker 1 (01:40:18):
And here she is again. Caroline Harvey snipes one. It's saved.
Rebound loose again. Shapovalevova gets hit.
Speaker 2 (01:40:25):
Pucker still looks.
Speaker 1 (01:40:27):
Badgers maintain the zone.
Speaker 3 (01:40:28):
Lacey eden to Sims on the right side.
Speaker 1 (01:40:32):
Sims tight angle, skating behind the net sims looking for
eating out in front of good deflection. At the point
is Caroline Harvey, who brings it in up to Venusio.
Takes a shot blocked in front by Evans. Venusio on
the rebound gives it away and a two on one chance.
Now for the Lakers, here is Shaliad it all alone,
shoots save by Faker.
Speaker 2 (01:40:53):
Oh, I'm so happy for Chloe. She works so hard
all year. And then the seer snuff at two on one.
Odd man rush there like that with a great save.
That was beautiful.
Speaker 1 (01:41:04):
Baker shuts the door on Shlene.
Speaker 2 (01:41:07):
Oh nice save on a two on one there.
Speaker 1 (01:41:11):
And a two on one with Shaleene having a lot
of space, almost looking a breakaway there right right, but
Baker did not flinch and she made the stop.
Speaker 2 (01:41:20):
No rebound to boot.
Speaker 1 (01:41:22):
I like that, Lollacker and Edwards on the draw. Edwards
wins it. Here's Gorbatanco three on two. Now for the Badgers,
here is Edwards. Edwards takes a shot blocked in front,
Hall settles it to get it to Edwards right circle.
Now Potter rips a shot for the point and gloved
up by lou Gean Man.
Speaker 2 (01:41:42):
I cannot believe that's about fifty six or fifty five
shots fifty seven. Yeah, and for this game total of
shots with five fifty eight to goal, I cannot believe it.
Speaker 1 (01:41:54):
I mean, the thought is that we're gonna see sixty.
You don't really see that unless it goes overtime.
Speaker 2 (01:41:58):
That's right, right.
Speaker 1 (01:42:00):
I know the Badgers are.
Speaker 3 (01:42:01):
They shoot the puck quite a bit.
Speaker 1 (01:42:03):
Here as Lady Potter skates behind the net and looks
for a chance out in front. Potter again takes a shot,
say rebound again, saved once more. But the Badgers always
usually get fifty plus shots. Definitely close to that mark.
But sixty, my goodness. Against the team that you know,
they're not ranked, but they received votes to be in
the rankings.
Speaker 2 (01:42:22):
No, they're a legitimate program and have been for a
long time.
Speaker 1 (01:42:26):
They have.
Speaker 2 (01:42:27):
I remember facing them in the national title game in
two thousand and nine.
Speaker 1 (01:42:33):
Yeah, there you go. Led by Mike Sisty as well.
We mentioned it's been the head coach for them for
twenty seven seasons. Yeah, he's got six hundred wins. Had
an icing called and I, uh, I thought I heard
something from the fans. Maybe I heard the word cheater,
but I don't know if that was. I don't know
(01:42:53):
whatout without even mean, but I don't hear any of
you know, trash cans banging or anything, right, right, But anyway,
I'm going to have to go here. In regulation the
five to one lead for Wisconsin. Cassie Hall in the
corner picks it right up, tight angle shot.
Speaker 2 (01:43:07):
And you know next week we're facing Ohio State down there,
so you really don't want to have any bad habits
getting working their way into your routine today.
Speaker 1 (01:43:17):
That is for sure, no bad habits and everyone's staying healthing. Yes,
here is Edwards up the middle, Edwards across the Potter
Potter right point download to Edwards.
Speaker 3 (01:43:29):
Three minutes to go.
Speaker 1 (01:43:30):
Here in regulation, Potter rips a shot blocked off the
stick of Metzler and picked up by Shao Lene, And
she'll wait behind the goal and let the Lakers go
for a change.
Speaker 2 (01:43:45):
Yeah, we'll see here getting time is ticking away.
Speaker 1 (01:43:51):
And now here comes McKinley. McKinley on the right side
dumps that one back behind the goal. Young picks it
up in the corner for Mercy. Hurst gets it free
from McKinley, but Venusio gets there before she does final
twenty or thirty seconds on the Mercyhurst penalty. Here's Hall
centering pass for Edwards. Nice just wide of the goal,
(01:44:14):
but a nice reach from Edwards to even get up
her stick on that puck. Venusio to Potter, Potter to Edwards,
back to Potter, who looks right back to Edwards.
Speaker 3 (01:44:25):
Edwards spins Away didn't like what she saw.
Speaker 1 (01:44:29):
She is up the middle. Edwards toe drag, shoots blocked
in front and that one stung Alenius.
Speaker 3 (01:44:38):
Out of the box. Now comes Mason O.
Speaker 1 (01:44:42):
So we're here to be.
Speaker 2 (01:44:43):
Yeah, we'll be on the penalty kill momentarily here.
Speaker 1 (01:44:47):
And uh yeah, we'll take us to the rest the
end of the game here, Yeah, because of that five
minute major. So badger's shorthanded to end the game. A
bit of a conditioning stint if you will. Yeah, right
at the end of the game. Here here is Eden.
It's gonna be tough for her to get her hat
trick tonight. I had two pretty early goals, but nothing
here in the third. McCarthy has it shorthanded, makes a
(01:45:10):
nice move. Here's McCarthy to the net. McCarthy never got
a shot on good play there from Finley McCarthy to
take checking by Eden and they don't want to be
short handed here, they want a goal.
Speaker 3 (01:45:21):
Yeah, here is Evans, Seleen lets it run.
Speaker 2 (01:45:28):
Great for checking thereby Eden and McCarthy.
Speaker 1 (01:45:31):
And here is Jones. Now Jones rips a shot wide
of the goal, picked up by Eden, who sends on
tour of the net. Chance out McCarthy.
Speaker 2 (01:45:39):
A rebound shot by.
Speaker 1 (01:45:42):
Hit the mask of Lougans and we get a whistle.
But right in front was McCarthy shorthanded. It was a
good save. But what a chance for Finley and want
a shift for her as well.
Speaker 2 (01:45:52):
Yeah, just a great job on the penalty killed by
that unit, especially Eden and McCarthy. Wow, they just keep
moving to her feet. Whether they have the puck or not,
they are moving their feet. They're working hard and that's
what makes them so successful.
Speaker 1 (01:46:05):
Indeed, fifty seven seconds to go in regulation, the cards
sitting in the box.
Speaker 3 (01:46:12):
And I mean she's essentially sitting on the bench right now.
Speaker 1 (01:46:14):
She's right next to the bench, the penalty boxes being
right next to the player benches. But it's a little ostracized. Yeah,
and the officials things up and we'll get our face off.
I'm not sure what we're waiting on here either the
referees having some words with we win to draw anyway.
(01:46:37):
Off the draw, Harvey just sends that one down into
the corner of my final fifty.
Speaker 3 (01:46:43):
Here's a Metzler.
Speaker 1 (01:46:45):
Lakers trying to get one more here, tied up with
n Right. Badgers doing their best to keep this puck
in the zone here, and they're doing a pretty good job.
Speaker 2 (01:46:53):
Great for check by n Right.
Speaker 1 (01:46:55):
They've killed about twenty seconds just on that draw, and
oh uh it'll be uh five on three then for
the last thirty seconds of this game.
Speaker 2 (01:47:04):
Okay, thirty three seconds will be uh five on three.
You're right.
Speaker 3 (01:47:09):
So now the penalty box is looking more and more
like a badger bench.
Speaker 2 (01:47:12):
Was a high stick by Enright?
Speaker 3 (01:47:14):
Yeah, high stick they called.
Speaker 1 (01:47:19):
Interesting.
Speaker 2 (01:47:19):
Huh yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:47:21):
But here we go anyway, face off to the Chloe Baker,
who's gonna have to deal with this five on three
for thirty seconds. Eden wins the draw and it's instantly
cleared the length of the eye, So that'll kill about
fifteen seconds off this penalty. Final twenty seconds of regulation. Here,
(01:47:42):
here's Young up to McKinley. McKinley's stopped up by Harvey,
Jungle sends that one hard around kept in by Young's
Roki behind the net. Now Lollcker centering pass, I'll out
final three seconds. They need to shoot it now and
(01:48:03):
off the post at the oh Man and that will
do it for the first game here in Nashville, Wisconsin.
With sixty three shots on goal and five goals to
Mercy Hurst one and Greeny. What a game.
Speaker 2 (01:48:18):
Yeah, that ended up being a little more than everybody
bargained for, I think in a number of different ways,
but nonetheless a five to one victory for us. And
We're looking forward to Stonehill tomorrow and I'm glad we
had Chloe Baker in there in net for a while.
Give her an opportunity as well.
Speaker 1 (01:48:35):
Me too.
Speaker 3 (01:48:35):
Chloe Baker preserving the win. Badgers win five to one.
Speaker 1 (01:48:39):
We're gonna take a break when we come back the
post game show on Wisconsin Buggets one as well, and
Kirsten Simms adds one two. That first line got things
done and they got the win for Wisconsin. Chloe Baker
preserving the win for Wisconsin, getting her first appearance in
net of the season, and the Badgers do it. Ahead
of tomorrow's game against Stonehill in the second and final
(01:49:02):
game of the Smashville Women's Collegiate Hockey Showcase here from
the Ford Ice Center in Nashville, Tennessee. That's gonna do
it here on you one hundred point nine thanks for listening.
The Badgers with a big win here in Nashville. We
will see you tomorrow.
