Welcome into the jan K Security Solutions Basketball postgame Show.

Speaker 3 (00:28):
I'm your host, Dave Gasper.

Speaker 4 (00:30):
The Badgers get back in the win column with an
eighty eight to sixty one win over Central Michigan. We
invite you to join the conversation on the hotline. Six
oh eight, three, two, one thirteen ten is the number
two call in. They needed this one a get right
game after a couple of tough losses. Wisconsin took care

(00:51):
of business with a relatively stress free victory. This game
never appeared in doubt really at any moment. U Central
Michigan had a lead at one point eleven to ten
that lasted twenty four seconds, and then after that it
was all Wisconsin the rest of the way. There may
have been a little bit of stress at the end,

(01:11):
as Nolan Winter exited in the second half with an
injury after his ankle got kicked by one of the
Central Michigan players. There was no John Blackwell in this game,
but there's still lots to take away from this twenty
seven point victory not having John Blackwell heading into it.
I mean, typically if you don't have John Blackwell, you're
feeling a little bit nervous about this game. Now, granted,

(01:33):
this is Central Michigan. This is not Purdue, this is
not Michigan, this is not Michigan State, it's not any
of those teams in Big Ten Conference play. This is
Central Michigan. So you cannot have John Blackwell and still
end up being fine, but still not having him, it's
you kind of wonder how this team is going to

(01:55):
be able to respond, how they're going to be able
to flow offensively defense without their superstar, arguably without one
of their leaders on the court, one of their leaders
off the court. They didn't have him in this game,
ruled out due to an injury. We didn't really get
a ton of details on that for him, but still,

(02:17):
they didn't have Braden Carrington last game. They don't have
John Blackwell here tonight. But the offense didn't really skip
a beat. Eighty eight points. They were doing, you know,
exceptionally well without him. Now again, granted this is Central Michigan,
but they were able to spread the ball around. Overall,
eleven different Badgers were able to score here tonight. All

(02:40):
thirteen that were available got into the game. There's fourteen
on the roster. John Blackwell the only one who didn't
play because he's hurt. Everyone else got into the game
and eleven of those thirteen were able to score. The
only two that didn't Isaac Garden Riccardo Grepriy who got
in just for that last minute there at the end.
But still the offense was able to find some rhythm

(03:01):
once again. Greg Gard was able to try out a
couple of different lineups, a couple of different rotations, getting
a lot of the freshman, a lot of the underclassmen
in there. We saw quite a bit of Hayden Jones
here because Hayden Jones was in the starting lineup because
John Blackwell was out. So Hayden Jones gets twenty four
minutes of action here tonight, gets six points, four rebounds. Overall,

(03:22):
did pretty solid. Wasn't a big volume shooter, big volume scorer,
but still showed pretty well in this game, being able
to get some extended minutes for the first time. So
he does well, Nick Boyd, you know, relatively quiet night,
relatively quiet, twelve points for him. But you know, again
he continues to to you know, be able to do

(03:43):
the dribble, drive, be able to draw contact, get to
the free throw line. Eight free throw attempts in this
game for Nick Boyd. So he's you know, doing well
on his game. And then you got the big games
from Nolan Winter and Austin Rapp. Austin Rapp was the
volume scorer here tonight, seven of ten from the field,
four of seven from three. He was on quite the
hot stretch there. Eighteen points, seven rebounds, three assists. Great

(04:08):
game in twenty minutes off the bench for Austin rap
and getting him off the milk cart. And I think
was very important for this team because during the game,
during the game against Villanova, Austin Rapp was essentially nowhere
to be found. I mean, he played a similar amount
of minutes in that game and zero points on zero
of two shooting against Villanova, he was nowhere to be found.

(04:31):
Then here tonight, no John Blackwell, Austin Rapp shows up
big with eighteen points and he was exactly what Wisconsin
needed to really pull away in this game, because you know,
even though they had quite a quite a big lead
there heading into the into the second half, Austin rap
I mean, he almost took it over completely on his own.

(04:53):
That was a forty six to thirty three game, thirteen
point game. Next thing, you know, wrap layup. You know,
Hayden Jones gets one in there, but then Rap dunk,
Rap hits a three, Rap hits another three, and then
rap hits another three. You know, almost single handedly. It
goes from forty six to thirty three to sixty one
to thirty four with Austin Rapp just shooting the lights

(05:14):
out in this game. So he helped them pull away.
Great game for him and then Nolan Winter as well.
Six of nine from the field, eighteen points and eight rebounds,
fell just short of a double double. Now, he's been
a double doubles machine all season long, and you wondered
if he was going to be able to stay in
long enough to get the rebounds to get the double double.

(05:34):
And Matt Lapey even asked the question. He even brought
it up. It's like, hey's at eight rebounds, He's close
to a double double, but will he stay in long
enough with about five minutes to go, and then almost
immediately after the next play, seemingly he gets his ankle
kicked and he's down for a little bit, hobbles off
the field or hobbles off the court into the locker room,
gets checked out by the training staff. Maybe we'll get

(05:57):
an update on Nolan Winter from Nick Osin when he
joins us later on in the show here, but Winter
he seemed to be standing kind of out by the
tunnel afterwards, so I think he's largely fine.

Speaker 3 (06:10):
But again, we will see.

Speaker 4 (06:11):
We will hopefully get an update from Nick Osin as
Greg Guard talks to the assembled reporters there at the
Coal Center. But this is a great win for Wisconsin,
twenty seven point victory. It's exactly what they needed. They
needed to just absolutely blow somebody out, a non conference
opponent here in central Michigan. They're able to get all
of their guys into the game, able to get a

(06:32):
lot of experience for him, including Zach Kinsinger, who I
did not expect to see in this game. I did
not expect to see him all season long. But Zach Kinsinger,
we burn the red shirt. The chansfer of red shirt
is done. You get into a game, the red shirt
is over. So Kinsinger, we burn that that's done. He
comes in and he ends up getting himself thirteen minutes

(06:54):
of action in this game, including six points. All of
his shots were three of ten, he made two of
the four and he had the big smile on his
face afterwards. The entire bench everyone was super hyped for him.
He was the only guy to not have gotten into
a game all season yet because we thought he was
gonna end up red shirting, they were thinking about it.
They didn't ultimately decide to that. They hadn't made any

(07:17):
sort of firm decision that they were going to red
shirt him. But then with John Blackwell out, Zach Kinsinger
ends up getting some game action. So we'll see how
much more how much that will continue as the season
goes along. Once John Blackwell is back in the lineup,
will Kensinger still continue to get minutes or will he
be largely on the bench still and not seeing much

(07:37):
action except for the last minutes of a blowout games.
But he showed pretty well. He certainly showed that he
was not afraid to shoot the ball, and he was
able to see a couple go through, which is great
for him, great for his confidence. He was a big
time recruit here for Wisconsin, So for him as a
true freshman to you know, not Richart here get in

(07:57):
some action in non conference play. I think that that's
gonna be fantastic for his development. And we'll ask Nick
Oson about that as well coming up later on in
the show here. But overall, just a very solid performance
for forty minutes from this Badgers team, which is something
that we had been looking for for some time, because,

(08:18):
you know, this team against Villanova, they had a really
solid second twenty minutes of the game, but they didn't
put it together for the full forty. You look again
against Nebraska, they certainly did not put together a full
forty minutes. I mean it's hard to put together a
good full five minutes from that game from what they had.
But here a complete forty minutes from this Badgers team. Offensively, defensively,

(08:44):
they showed incredibly well. They're able to spread the ball around,
twenty five assists on twenty nine field goals made. You'll
love to see it. This is more the Badger basketball
we're expecting to see. Now, we just need to see
it against bigger opponents. One thing to do it against
Central Michigan, but you're going to have to do it

(09:04):
against teams like Villanova, like Purdue, like Michigan, like Michigan State,
like Nebraska. You're going to have to do it against
those teams. It's great to do it against Central Michigan,
you know you have it in you, but you have
to be able to do it against those other opponents
because that is when these games get more fun. And

(09:26):
we like having fun and that means fun. Facts are
on the other side. We got a couple of those there,
but we got to have some fun, so that's coming
up on the other side. After that, we'll have Nick
osin from Badgers two four seven. He's going to join
us as well. We'll get his thoughts on this game,
and of course we'll hear again from Greg Guard his

(09:47):
press conference as well.

Speaker 3 (09:49):
That's all coming up. Don't go anywhere.

Speaker 4 (09:51):
This is the jan K Security Solutions Besketball postgame Show.

Speaker 2 (10:03):
Roady, which Wayne the rings fifteen on the shot clots
already pushed out that please Gardlock.

Speaker 4 (10:07):
Welcome back to the JK Security Solutions Basketball postgame Show,
Jay and K Security Solutions from Home theaters, to smart lighting,
to a universal home control, go online to Jksecurity dot com.

Speaker 3 (10:20):
Dave Gasper here with you.

Speaker 4 (10:21):
The Badgers are the winners tonight eighty eight sixty one
over Central Michigan. If you'd like to join us on
the hotline, you can do so at six oh eight
three two one thirteen ten. And uh, you know, this
game very important one for the Badgers to be able
to get themselves right. They've been coming off a couple
of losses. They didn't look that they looked absolutely horrible

(10:41):
against Nebraska, and then they did not look great for
half of the game against Villanova, and uh, you know,
then overtime was just really just a mess for them there.
So coming up back to back losses, you need some
wins here. You got four home games in a row
here on this home stand. You got Central Michigan. Then
you got UW. Milwaukee coming in next week, and then

(11:02):
you start Big Ten conference play in January. But you
start with two of them at home against Purdue and
against UCLA. So you got a couple of big games there,
but they're at home. They're at the Cole Center, and
the Badgers do a lot of great home cooking at
the Cole Center, So, you know, great to start this
off with a big win.

Speaker 3 (11:21):
They needed it, and.

Speaker 4 (11:22):
They were able to get to exactly what they were
looking for despite not having John Blackwell in this game,
which is something that you know, again, if there's a
game for John Blackwell to miss, it'd be this one.
You know, you do it now, and you know maybe
if you have to against UW Milwaukee. I think the
Badgers should still be fine against UWM without John Blackwell,

(11:45):
but you want to make sure he's as close to
one hundred percent as possible for Purdue because you are
going to need him in that game. Absolutely, without a
doubt you need him. And then there's a concern potentially
for Nolan Winter as he left this game with about
five minutes to go. He was probably close to being
subbed out anyways, but he got kicked in the ankle
hobbled off the court. So you just hope things are

(12:07):
going to be okay there because I mean, those are
the two essentially the two most important players for this
Badger's team, John Blackwell and Nolan Winter. They are the
two most important guys that this team has. You need
to have that paint presence with Winter, your point guard
there with John Blackwell, if you don't have those two guys,

(12:28):
if they're not at one hundred percent, this Badgers team
is going to be in serious trouble. You know, even
with Nick Boyd and his ability to score at a
high clip, they're going to need those guys down the stretch.
So get them right. You still got a little bit
of time here. You got another week, You got another
eight days until your next game against WM So Wisconsin

(12:48):
should be in good spot to get those guys ready
to go for that game and for Big Ten Conference play,
which is when the season really gets the most fun.

Speaker 3 (12:57):
Right.

Speaker 4 (12:58):
We like having fun as we do here in the
facts are always more fun after a win because it
is once again time for fun facts with Dave.

Speaker 3 (13:09):
Hey, have you ever heard me? Here's the term fun fact.
I got a couple of fun facts here because I
have a fun fight. You're a fun fact, I do.

Speaker 4 (13:19):
First time in history this has happened that eight games,
five turnovers, and he's recorded thirty five assists.

Speaker 3 (13:25):
Spent a long time since we've seen a game like this.

Speaker 5 (13:29):
The fun out here, This game's fun.

Speaker 3 (13:30):
Okay, I don't know if that fact is fun?

Speaker 5 (13:33):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (13:33):
Are you fired?

Speaker 5 (13:34):
Up.

Speaker 3 (13:34):
I'm fired up for fun facts with Dave.

Speaker 4 (13:39):
All Right, we got a couple of fun facts here.
I got four of them lined up for fun facts
with Dave here today. So the Badgers during that stretch
there in the second half, when they were pulling away,
when Austin Raff was just drilling threes, they held Central
Michigan scoreless for over five minutes. For five minutes and
seven seconds there in the second half. That is the

(14:01):
second time this season the Badgers have held their opponent
to five or more minutes without a point. The previous
time was the first game of the season against Campbell University.

Speaker 3 (14:14):
The Fighting Camels.

Speaker 4 (14:15):
If you remember them, if you remember that game had
to kickoff the or pip off the regular season. So
they finally got that stretch there. Defense was locked down
for five plus minutes. Great to see. Jack Janicki was
also fantastic in this game. Nine assists, four points, nine

(14:36):
assists in twenty three minutes.

Speaker 3 (14:38):
I was hoping, I was waiting. I was keeping my eye.

Speaker 4 (14:42):
On if he could get that tenth assist and get
into double digits. We don't see double digit assists a lot.
As a matter of fact, the last time we saw
a player get double digit assists for the Badgers, you
have to go all the way back to one nineteen
with Ethan Hap when he got eleven assists against Northwestern.

(15:08):
That was also he also had a triple double.

Speaker 3 (15:10):
In that game.

Speaker 4 (15:11):
The last time any Badger player had a triple double
was Ethan Hap there with eleven assists against Northwestern in
twenty nineteen. So we're so close to getting to getting
ten assists there, but Jack Schenicki falls just one short.
Maybe we can find one somewhere. To find an assist someplace, please,
I'm begging you.

Speaker 3 (15:33):
All right.

Speaker 4 (15:34):
Next to fun fact here on fun Facts with Dave,
the Badgers tonight made thirteen three pointers, which is.

Speaker 3 (15:43):
Great to see.

Speaker 4 (15:45):
The Badgers now have hit double digit threes eight times
this season and they are seven and one in those games.
So the key hit more threes, which means you score more,
which means you're more like to win. Imagine that crazy
how that ends up working. And then also a finally

(16:05):
here with the non conference win over Central Michigan, the
Badgers have the sixth longest non conference home winning streak
in program history, which is now extended to eighteen games.

Speaker 3 (16:18):
And if you're wondering.

Speaker 4 (16:19):
The longest non conference home winning streak in program history
was twenty six games from two thousand and two to
two thousand and five, so this streak goes back to
twenty twenty three. So if they're going to beat that
stretch that they said at twenty six the longest program history,
it is going to have to extend into next year

(16:41):
because you got to get to win against Central Michigan
or against UWM coming up next week, and then that
stretch that would bring it to nineteen games, but then
you got to go into next season because after that
it is all conference play the rest of the way.
So we'll see if they can continue that stretch. But
sixth longest in PROM history, and that is fun facts

(17:02):
with Dave. See aren't they fun? There are so much
more fun after a win. And we also tend to
have plenty of fun on this program. When we talked
to Nick Osen from twenty four to seven sports and
he's gonna be joining us on the other side, we're
gonna get his insights on this game.

Speaker 3 (17:18):
Lots to talk about.

Speaker 4 (17:19):
Zach Kinsinger burning the red shirt, Nolan Winter leaving with
an injury, John Blackwell not even playing because of an
injury getting right in this game with a twenty seven
point victory.

Speaker 3 (17:29):
Lots to talk about. We'll ask about it.

Speaker 4 (17:31):
All with Nick Osen from twenty four to seven Sports.
On the other side, don't go anywhere. This is the
JANK Security Solutions Basketball postgame Show.

Speaker 2 (17:49):
And coming up with his Braden Carrington for Wisconsin ahead,
it goes to Jack Jennick at the top of the
key feats Kensinger lines up with three left quarter bucket
set Kensinger for a triple, his first points as a
Badger on another time out take it by Central Michigan.

Speaker 4 (18:09):
Welcome back to the Jay and K Security Solutions Basketball
postgame Show. From home security to automation, Jay and K
Security Solutions as you've covered go to jksecurity dot com
for more info.

Speaker 3 (18:22):
Dave Gasper here with you.

Speaker 4 (18:23):
And the Badgers are the winners here tonight over the
Central Michigan Chippewas eighty eight to sixty one. Just an
all around fantastic performance from the Badgers here tonight. Eleven
of the thirteen players who got into the game were
able to get some points on the board. Leading the
way was Nolan Winter and Austin Rapp, both with eighteen points.

Speaker 3 (18:45):
Apiece.

Speaker 4 (18:46):
Nick Boyd added twelve as well, and then you just
kind of go down the line. It's just a lot
of varied contributions. Braden Carrington with nine here tonight, Hayden
Jones with six, Andrew Roady with five, Zach Kinsinger with
six points. So you just heard the first three of
them right there, coming back, you know, getting his first
college points on the board. Alexis Bilioskis with three points

(19:10):
here tonight, Jack Janicki with four, Will Garlock with four
points as well, and then Jack Robinson with three the
final three points of the game that got the Badgers
up to eighty eight, which was their final score in
this one. So great to see them get there, and

(19:32):
it's it's much needed for Wisconsin because you know you're
coming up back to back losses there and you lose
one of your top players, you're superstar player. John Blackwell
was unavailable here tonight dealing with an injury, and again,
now would be the perfect time to do it. Now

(19:53):
would be a fine time to not have John Blackwell
and still be able to survive. There's really no great
time to not have your best player out on the court.
But Central Michigan the end of the non conference schedule
here at home. That would be if there is a
good time, it would be now, rest him up, get
him healthy over the holidays, and then see if he

(20:17):
can come back for UWM. If not, you really don't
have to push it. You can keep him out for that,
but make sure he's one hundred percent ready to go
for Purdue because they're certainly going to need him there.
So we are awaiting Nick Osen from twenty four to
seven Sports. The press conference that Greg Guard and the
players had was apparently a very long press conference, So

(20:40):
Greg Guard happy to talk with reporters after a twenty
seven point win.

Speaker 3 (20:44):
Imagine that.

Speaker 4 (20:45):
I'd imagine the Villanova press conference the Nebraska press conference.
Those ones didn't go quite as long. I don't think
he was as happy to talk after those games. But
a game like this, where you have eleven different guys score,
you get all thirteen available players in the game, there's
a lot to talk about.

Speaker 3 (21:03):
You win. By twenty seven.

Speaker 4 (21:04):
He's feeling good, ready to go, and Nick Osen is
feeling good and ready to go as he joins us
here now on the j K Security Solutions Basketball postgame show, Nick,
I imagine Greg Guard was very happy to talk after this game.
Lots for him to talk about. Uh, but first I
gotta ask did he provide an update at all on

(21:26):
Nolan Winter, who left this game after getting kicked in
the ankle?

Speaker 5 (21:29):
Yeah, David, it was a great presser tonight, you know,
a short, short, little update really at the end, and
it was essentially, I mean, not super in depth, but
he seemed very optimistic. Didn't seem like crazy serious. You know,
Winter was walking around after Obviously there's a good amount
of time from now until the next game, so seems
like things will be pretty fine there.

Speaker 3 (21:50):
Okay, hew, I am.

Speaker 4 (21:52):
I'm feeling good about that because I was a little
worried there for a second because it's like, okay, five
minutes to go, Hey, how much long are we gonna
keep Nolan Entry out there? It's a thirty point game,
and then he gets kicked in the ankle, and it's like,
oh no, that's that's not what we need. But okay,
so Nolan Winters is going to be fine. John Blackwell though,
John Blackwell, we found out before the game he was

(22:15):
unavailable due to injury.

Speaker 3 (22:17):
Is he going to be fine?

Speaker 5 (22:19):
Yeah? I would say with my own eyes as well.
As what I heard, probably you know, as optimistic, if
not more there. I watched him warming up a little bit,
maybe wasn't moving as much as normally would, but like
the fact that he was doing that and you know,
essentially tried to give it a go at one point.
Coach guard also didn't seem overly worried there. You know,

(22:39):
that's one that I'm going to try to ask around
a little bit, you know, later in the week, maybe
if we have another one of your great shows, Dave
on the other show, I will check in. But again,
I think that those guys probably you know, going to
be fine going forward.

Speaker 3 (22:55):
Okay, That's that's very good to hear.

Speaker 4 (22:56):
It's very important to have those guys be available for
this group going into conference play. Coming up, we're talking
with Nick Osen from twenty four to seven Sports here
on the jan K Security Solutions basketball postgame show. Nick
A lamented last game that Austin Rapp was kind of
on the milk carton. He was kind of lost in

(23:17):
that game, didn't really have an impact against Villanova. It
appears he was listening to the show because Austin Rapp
got himself off the milk curtain tonight. Eighteen points, seven
of ten from the field, seven rebounds. I mean, this
was just a truly electric performance from Austin Rapp here tonight.
What did you see that was different in his game

(23:40):
here tonight?

Speaker 5 (23:40):
Yeah, Dave, I think the dates were blending together a
little bit, but I believe that was earlier today when
you brought that off. Yeah, and I told you there
was nothing to worry about, you know, I told you
that obviously his moments, it will continue to grow. It
was a nice opportunity tonight. I expected Coach Guard to
to play some of these guys a little bit more,

(24:01):
and man did he take advantage seventy percent shooting eighteen
points and yeah, just twenty minutes. I liked that he
was attacking the hoop a little bit, had a couple
really nice roles to the cup. I know that Coach
Guard loved that. And then actually, yeah, Austi Rapp was
one of the players that we spoke with postgames, so
got the podium treatment. Really really nice performance from him

(24:23):
and frankly the entire team.

Speaker 4 (24:25):
Yeah, it was a great performance up and down. All
thirteen available players got into the game, including Zach Kinsinger.

Speaker 5 (24:34):
Yick.

Speaker 4 (24:35):
I want to get your reaction to this when you
saw Kinsinger check in? Were you surprised at the Badgers
burning the red shirt here for Kinsinger? And what did
you think of his debut performance here tonight?

Speaker 5 (24:49):
Well, first, you know, really, Dave, I appreciate it. With
that first question, I would say I was a little
bit surprised, but not shocked, just because I mean I
watched him play ten to fifteen times, maybe maybe eight
to ten times in high school. I know where this
game can bring. I feel he can help the team
this year, and in terms of what he showed, I
thought he was actually really quite good. You know, he

(25:10):
got twelve thirteen minutes six points on four shots, and
it looked like maybe one of those first couple three
point attempts, maybe some nerves, you know, a little bit nervous,
But I mean I've seen him shoot hundreds of times.
He's automatically going to be one of the best shooters
on this team. He's very, you know, routine oriented, lockdown defender,
great energy, and I know that coach Guard really really

(25:31):
likes him. Myself and a couple other reporters asked about
him post games. So yeah, David, I'm not going to
tell you know, he's gonna jump in and be the
sixth man. But like, I think he will be part
of this rotation. I think he's certainly good enough to
and I'm looking forward to following.

Speaker 4 (25:47):
Yeah, what was the like the practice reports we're here
and that those were really good, that he was really
kind of showing out there and just kind of taking
those kinds of steps forward in his development. Really, it
seems like it's gone unfairly quickly.

Speaker 5 (26:01):
Yeah, dad, great, great, callback man. Yeah, he was looking
good in practice and actually when when somebody asked about
him with the players post game, they said, yeah, you know,
you guys should see him when he was a scout team,
Like he was cooking us, you know, twenty points every time.
So it's not a lack of skill effort any of that.
I think it's really just, you know, they've been trying

(26:22):
to figure things out because there are so many new pieces,
and now I'm definitely intrigued to see what that looks
like going forward there.

Speaker 4 (26:30):
Yeah, I'm intrigued to see how much he ends up
playing once John Blackwell is back, because yeah, it seemed
almost like a little bit of like, hey, we're down
a little bit with the guards, so Kensinger ends up
stepping in. But also it means Hayden Jones got his
first start here tonight and in place of John Blackwell,
so you know, him being the freshman coming in getting

(26:52):
a start. What did you make of Hayden Jones getting
the extended minutes final finally his first extended minutes look
here tonight.

Speaker 5 (27:01):
I thought that he also, you know, looked pretty good
six points as well. I think that he had good
shots selection four or five boards. I liked most of
his decision making. I think you still want to see
growth in terms of kind of shooting from distance right
That didn't come in though as one of his necessarily
strengths right away, so not shocking. But again, I think

(27:22):
his floor is very high. I think he works on defense,
good team player. I'll certainly be following. It's going to
be interesting to see when when JB comes back, Dave,
how this total guard rotation really looks.

Speaker 4 (27:35):
Yeah, it's going to be fascinating that it's it's a
deep group that they got there. It includes Jack Janicki
who had four points but nine assists. Nick I was
I was begging to find a tenth assist somewhere, so
we could get a double digit assist for the first time.

Speaker 3 (27:54):
In a while.

Speaker 4 (27:54):
But you know, Janicky, he seems like again he's he's
kind of filling that Kamari McGee where he's just bringing
energy off the bench and he's able to dish the
ball around.

Speaker 5 (28:05):
Yeah, Dave, that is something you know. Similarly that that
coach guard are really equated a little bit with him,
not saying cam McGee, but just in terms of energy defense.
He felt that maybe Jenicky wasn't doing as much of
that the last week or two, certainly did tonight nine.
Is this one turnover. You will take that from anybody
any game. And like I said, I think the depths

(28:27):
and kind of the differing skill sets really in that
guard rotation are going to be fun to follow.

Speaker 4 (28:33):
Yeah, absolutely completely agree. And Nick Osen you have got
a fantastic skill set and a very fun follow on
Twitter at the real Nick Osen. Be sure to follow
him there. Nick as always appreciate you hopping on and
look forward to talking to you again.

Speaker 3 (28:48):
And uh, Merry Christmas, Dave.

Speaker 5 (28:49):
I always look forward to it man, great work truly
these last few days. Thank you bro all the time
and chatting it up with me. Merry Christmas guys.

Speaker 4 (28:57):
All right, there he goes Nick Osen from twenty four
to seven Sports, joining us here. The Badgers are the
winners here tonight, eighty eight sixty one over the Central
Michigan Chippewas, and that makes for a very happy Greg Guard.
We'll hear some of his comments after tonight's game coming
up next.

Speaker 3 (29:15):
Don't go anywhere.

Speaker 4 (29:16):
This is the jan K Security Solutions Basketball postgame Show.

Speaker 2 (29:27):
I'm just touched on a there. Jamickey with the ball
finds Noland Winter flies to the gold Slam. Dounk assists
number eight for Jack Joe hurt them seventy seven forty
five Wisconsint was six minutes to play.

Speaker 4 (29:43):
Welcome back to the J and K Security Solutions Basketball
postgame Show. Jay and K Security Solutions can give you
the power you never thought possible. Learn how Jay and
K can integrate your world. Visit jksecurity dot com. Dave
Gasper here with you. The Badgers are the winner here tonight,
eighty eight sixty one over Central Michigan, and it was

(30:05):
a great night for Austin Rapp and Nolan Winter. They
both led the way with eighteen points four Wisconsin, and
that makes for a very happy head coach in Greg
Guard as he met up with Matt Leape and Charlie
Wills after the game.

Speaker 2 (30:20):
Coach Guard now joining us here at court side after
this eighty eight to sixty one victory against Central Michigan.
There's a lot of just looking at the stat screen, coach,
a lot of things jump out, not the least of
which twenty five assists on twenty nine buckets here tonight.
Pretty good work defensively, just like the energy with your

(30:40):
team tonight.

Speaker 3 (30:41):
Yeah, I did, you know.

Speaker 6 (30:42):
I thought we you know, when we moved the ball,
we become much more difficult to guard when we don't
like everybody else in the country, we're.

Speaker 3 (30:50):
Easy to guard.

Speaker 6 (30:51):
So I thought, you know, guys off the bench gave
us when we did get stagnant, they gave us some boost,
you know. And it's some pretty good things defensively. And
I think we're you know, you're always looking to take
a step forward, and as small as it may be,
regardless of who you're playing, can you play the game.

Speaker 3 (31:09):
The right way.

Speaker 6 (31:10):
That's always what we're talking about, and regardless of upon,
to play the game the right way, because those good
habits will carry over, and that's what we have to
continue to you know, build good habits so we're more consistent.

Speaker 7 (31:22):
Yeah, that's what you talked in the pregame, was taking
away the right things that you guys were doing, creating
more consistency from from tonight.

Speaker 3 (31:30):
What was maybe one or two.

Speaker 7 (31:32):
Takeaways with your young guys being out on the court
getting some exposure.

Speaker 3 (31:36):
What what do you what?

Speaker 7 (31:37):
What were your thoughts on that?

Speaker 6 (31:39):
Well, the fact that we only had two turnovers in
the second half was I thought a good We talked
about that because we think we had seven at halftime
and just unforced ones. You know, just slow down, you know,
I even use the old Aaron Rodgers quote relax, like
we we through a couple that were fastballs when we
don't need to throw fastballs, and so just to taking

(32:00):
care of the ball I think was good. I thought,
you know, it was good to get Brayden back on
the floor, I thought in the limited run, and he
hasn't practiced very much, if hardly at all. I did
a little bit yesterday, and then obviously having Zach ready
to go and wanting to play, because I think he
can help us, not only from you know, he's earned
the spot, he's earned a chance to get on the floor,

(32:23):
and I think it helps gives us another, you know,
option in the back court because you know, it's a
long season. You never know what you know, guys get
banged up. Plus, he's he's becoming a much more solid player.
The jump he's made in the last three four weeks
really since we've come back from even from San Diego,
just he's he's gotten better and better, and I think

(32:44):
he's confident now and getting his fet under him a
little bit. So this was always an option, and I
had actually made my mind up, you know, a couple
of weeks ago. I wanted to get him. We needed
to get him in there and playing, because he he
just brings too much. I think he can help us,
and we're gonna need, like I said, all hands on deck.

Speaker 2 (33:02):
Wait the other guy who seemed like he brought some
things to the party again, it was Jack Janicki. Yes,
you know, the nine assists, that's obvious, but that was
kind of the Jack Janicky last year exactly.

Speaker 6 (33:13):
That's the Jack Janicki of old. And that's what I
told him when I was sitting by him before the
jump ball. You need to be jumping jack, jumping Jack Janick.
He put skin on the floor, you know, and he goes,
you know, because you can't you understand your role on
what you you know.

Speaker 3 (33:25):
Know thyself.

Speaker 6 (33:26):
I think I told you guys that in the pregame, right,
And what he needs to bring to us is that
energy things that maybe, yeah, the nine assist is awesome,
but it's the other activity and the deflections, the hand
on basketball's the rebounding, the energy he can bring the
spark that we need in terms of the how hard
we play and some of those things. And he's got

(33:48):
he's one of three that's got experience with us along
with you know, the other one was sitting on the
bench and JB and and Nolan so to he needs
to help these younger, newer guys get up to speed.

Speaker 2 (33:59):
Time is their friend. Obviously with John Blackwell didn't play
tonight the Nolan Winter look he kind of maybe rolled
his foot a little bit a little bit. But for
everybody I was suggesting this with Charlie, there's the physical reset,
but just kind of get away mentally reset to.

Speaker 6 (34:12):
Yeah, I mean we're only three four days off the
finals there maybe not even that much and and just
mentally yes that you know that over the last ten
days or so, I think has been taxing on as
it always is. But yeah, i'd be able to, you know,
enter into the holidays here on on a good note
and be able to kind of reset here a little bit,
get our legs back and uh, you don't get ready

(34:35):
for you know, one more non conference then back in
the league.

Speaker 2 (34:37):
I don't know how much of a reset you get,
but I hope you get some. So so you a
little bit a little family time, that's.

Speaker 3 (34:43):
Will It'll be awesome.

Speaker 6 (34:44):
Yeah, we'll get everybody coming in and.

Speaker 3 (34:47):
So looking forward to it.

Speaker 2 (34:48):
All right, congrats Barry christ.

Speaker 6 (34:51):
Say you know all our listeners out there, happy holidays
and on Wisconsin.

Speaker 2 (34:55):
Appreciate it. We'll talk to you soon, all right, thank you,
said coach Great Guard joining us as the Badgers when
at eighty eight to sixty one.

Speaker 4 (35:01):
All right, there was head coach Greg Guard talking with
the Mantlepey and Charlie Wills after the game here and yeah,
now they got a little bit.

Speaker 3 (35:08):
Of a break.

Speaker 4 (35:08):
We got Christmas coming up here. The Badgers don't play
again for another eight days. It's going to be next
Tuesday against UWM. When they are next in action. They're
at the Coal Center. This was a great win for
Wisconsin to be able to have a comfortable, easy victory
here of twenty seven points, exactly what we need. We

(35:28):
got some positive news on Nolan Winter that his injury
is not that bad and talking with Nick Osen as well,
the John Blackwell injury not too concerning either, just not
able to go tonight, Let it rest up, get towards
one hundred percent. With another week of him getting better,
he should be good to go going forward, which is
exactly what this Badgers team is going to need. And

(35:50):
they used everyone tonight. Everyone that was available. All thirteen
players got into the game, which was great to see
eleven of them or a to get some points on
the board. So they're able to spread the love around,
which exactly what you want to see here in your
non conference schedule because for a lot of these guys,
they're not going to be seeing a ton of regular

(36:11):
minutes once we get into Big Ten conference play. But
should something happen, you know, in injury, whatever else, they
may get pressed into duty and this experience is incredibly
valuable for them. We saw Zach Kinsinger get his first
college basketball action here tonight, six points on four shots
in thirteen minutes. Great to see that for him, Will Garlock,

(36:33):
some extended run, Austin Rapp twenty minutes off the bench.
So overall, just a really strong performance from this Badger's team,
which is what we've needed to see because we haven't
seen it in the past couple of games. We didn't
see it against Villanova, we didn't see it against Nebraska,
but we saw it here tonight. It's in them. They
just need to have it show up more consistently. Play
these kinds of, you know, forty minute performances each and

(36:56):
every single time out, not just against the Central Michigan's,
not just against UW, but when you play Perdue, when
you play UCLA, when you play Michigan, when you play
Ohio State, all these guys in conference play, you are
going to have to play those full forty minutes of
strong defense and get things going on offense and spread
the ball around. Twenty five assists on twenty nine field

(37:19):
goals here tonight, and next up for the Badgers it
will be UWM coming up next Tuesday, the thirtieth, So
we're gonna be coming up just shy. The penultimate day
of twenty twenty five that's gonna be coming up next
week against UWM.

Speaker 3 (37:37):
That game will tip.

Speaker 4 (37:38):
Off at six o'clock at the Cole Center, and as always,
we will be here for you afterwards on the Jank
Scurty Solutions Basketball postgame Show.

Speaker 3 (37:47):
Nick Bruzewiz will rejoin me for that one.

Speaker 4 (37:50):
He'll be back in town for that and we're excited
to see it happened. The last non conference game of
the regular season. Once again, your finals gore here tonight
Wisconsin eighty eight, Central Michigan sixty one. For our producer,
Casey James, I am Dave Gasper. Thank you for listening.
This has been the Jane K Security Solutions Besketball postgame Show.

Speaker 2 (38:14):
Amerd down to ten seconds left, Zach Kinzinger will dribble
out the clock and the Badgers will go into a
little holiday break with a convincing win on the home
floor here tonight.

Speaker 7 (38:26):
Yeah, very well done, super consistent. They have to be
proud of themselves. They didn't give them anything easy, so
good job by Wisconsin Tonight.

Speaker 2 (38:33):
Final scorer Wisconsin eighty eight, Central Michigan sixty one.
