Speaker 1 (00:00):
Good after them from five served for him in downtown Milwaukee,
alongside Brian Bunch, our engineer, Dave McCann and Aisha Jackson.
Speaker 2 (00:08):
Back at a Network studio. This is Matt Lepey.
Speaker 1 (00:11):
We welcome you to Wisconsin basketball, and we welcome you
to a storied rivalry, the one hundred and thirty first
meeting all time between the Wisconsin Badgers and the Marquettes
Golden Eagles. A sold out five Serve Forums. Students have
been here for quite a while now, and well, Butcher,
I guess we could call this the second bright whits
(00:32):
game for the Badgers this season. Now, they played good
teams obviously at Greenbrier, but you go back to the
Arizona game a couple of weeks ago in Madison, a
terrific night for the Wisconsin Badgers, and now the first
true road game for Greg guards team, and this is
quite the environment as expected here today.
Speaker 3 (00:52):
Absolutely, there's nothing better than that. There's nothing better than
what this is. You got two great teams and this
group has a chance. You had another opportunity to go
and make a statement, and that's what you want as
a college basketball player, as a basketball player in general,
you want to have as many chances. It's a mega
statement and say, hey, we are a good basketball team.
(01:12):
This is what we're built on, this is who we are,
and this is what we represent.
Speaker 1 (01:16):
And this is a game two of a very intriguing
four game stretch for Wisconsin. Of course, a conference opener
that was a down to the wire game Michigan got
out of town with a three point win. Obviously, the
game in front of them that will tip in mere minutes.
They go to Illinois on Tuesday night fo at eight
o'clock tip down in Champagne. No doubt they'll be salty
(01:36):
after losing to Northwestern at overtime last night, and then
a week from today going down to Indianapolis to play
a Butler team that's off to a good start. I
know as a player, as a coach, it's the next practice,
the next game. But as broadcaster, is really this ooh,
this is quite the four game block that they're in
the midst of right now.
Speaker 3 (01:53):
All right, There's a reason I'm a broadcaster not a coach,
because I like looking at all those things.
Speaker 4 (01:58):
I like looking at it. Looked at it.
Speaker 3 (02:00):
You knew this four game stretch was gonna have a
big imprint on what this team was and what this
team will be and where they're gonna go. And I
think that's the thing you've you know, you had started
with Miski and you dropped it. You didn't play your
best basketball. Get another opportunity in this environment to make
a stand and say this is what Wisconsin basketball is
this year, you.
Speaker 1 (02:19):
Know, just like the Arizona game when there were a
lot of bells and whistles, a lot of bells and
whistles here in Milwaukee, a terrific video featuring some of
the all time greats in Marquette basketball history. And yeah,
there's some red in the building and not a bad
number of red attired fans here. But the Marquette crowd
(02:40):
will be very, very vocal, and it's been for a while.
We're filibustering areas. We're getting ready for the national anthem.
These teams get ready to renew this rival where you
mentioned the Badgers have won the last three games. Last year,
Marquette was ranked third when Wisconsin knocked them off, their
rank fifth right now. Wisconsin eleventh this week. But rankings
(03:03):
are very fluid, as we have already seen the number
of top ten teams plus Wisconsin who have already fallen
this past week, and I will throw it down to
the floor for the playing of our national anthem. Well,
if the game is half as good as Frankings performance
of the national anthem, we're going to be entertained here today.
But yeah, I mentioned as they're getting ready to introduce
(03:23):
the lineups here at five Served Forum that rankings are
very fluid. It's just another week in college basketball. I
was talking with Greg Guard where we did his coach
a show a few days ago, and by that time
the one, the two, and the five had all lost,
or the one two of the four maybe. So now
in college football that would be chaos beyond recognition, and
(03:44):
basketball is just another week.
Speaker 2 (03:45):
I guess right it is.
Speaker 3 (03:47):
It's been every week and it will be every week again,
and especially earlier of the year when you've talked about
gel in teams and putting them together and how they
all metch Well, now we're in middle of December, that
gel period. You get about another week that that conversation
is done. You think you have either geld er, you haven't.
So I think as we get going along, you'll you'll
(04:07):
still see upsets, but it won't because the teams trying
to figure it out. It's because you're getting the conference play. Yeah,
and that's what happened to due they go to Penn State,
they lose like your seat, some of that as well.
Speaker 2 (04:18):
And didn't predue lose its conference opener last year.
Speaker 4 (04:21):
They did the way too.
Speaker 3 (04:22):
So we talked about Northwestern being Illinois, Well we also
know Northwestern usually gets a couple of those early on
in the season.
Speaker 1 (04:28):
Well too, Yeah they do, and a lot can be
made of it. And then you start to settle in.
You got oh you know, this is basketball, this is
a football you're gonna have. You're gonna have hiccups along
the way, multiple pickups, and you can still put together
extra special seasons. Well imagine the Badgers, uh you and
the keys to the game. Reverse the ball protected as
(04:49):
as as well as you possibly can against a swarming
Marquette defense that is third of the nation in skils
per game at about eleven and a half. And we
can talk about non rim twos and all that. But
as you mentioned that, you know, figure out a way
get Max Pleshman going and see even gets Stephen crowd
going as well. It's been a pretty quiet stretch for him.
Speaker 4 (05:10):
Well and for Marquette.
Speaker 3 (05:11):
One of the reasons they're so active on the defensive
end is because they don't have a post present down
low who's a great at the rim. So you talk
about an advantage for Wisconsin. Big Steve has to make
sure that he is a presence down low and don't
get in foul trouble. That's one of the things that
you know slowed his season so far as a couple
of games and he's gotten into their early foul trouble.
Speaker 1 (05:33):
Yeah, not quite twenty two minutes of playing time on
Tuesday against Michigan before d kewing. He ended up with
two points and four rebounds. But John Blackwell did what
he could in the game against Michigan. Yeah, they were turnovers,
he was guilty of them, but he had sixteen points,
nine rebounds, four on the offensive glass and really had
a lot to do with Wisconsin even having a chance
(05:55):
there in those last few minutes.
Speaker 4 (05:56):
And I think it was the offensive class.
Speaker 3 (05:58):
There's a situation no matter what offen you can run
great offense, you might not make shots. The one thing
everyone both sides has a chance to do go rebound
the basketball. And that tells me all I need to
know about John Black, we knew it, but his tenacity
on the offensive lass when it wasn't going well for
his team, just saying you know what, I'm gonna take over.
Speaker 4 (06:19):
I'm gonna good ball, I'm a little score.
Speaker 1 (06:22):
It's been fun to watch his his development here. He's
talked about how the role is different than the minutes
per game has ramped up considerably from a year ago.
And same thing about Nolan Winter. By the way, remember
he averaged about ten minutes a game last year, so he's.
Speaker 2 (06:38):
Still coming along.
Speaker 1 (06:41):
Is off to a solid start at nine and a
half points, five and a half rebounds. But you have
bigs who can shoot. You talk about Ben Gold not
you're necessarily a low post presence. You have to treat
him like a shooter because almost eight out of every
ten of his shots it's.
Speaker 2 (06:54):
Going to be from beyond the three point line.
Speaker 3 (06:56):
Well, and to be honest, we're going to see how
Wisconsin guards it because are they gonna be able to
play both bigs? Are they gonna have to go one
big only? Just because of what Marquette has on the floor.
Speaker 4 (07:06):
This is definitely a matchup game.
Speaker 1 (07:09):
The two very good programs who you know, maybe the
path to their success is different.
Speaker 2 (07:17):
But they're both really good and they both do it
the right way.
Speaker 3 (07:20):
And for me, the way they do it, even though
you said the path is different, it's still centered on
the same thing.
Speaker 2 (07:28):
Yeah, like that.
Speaker 3 (07:29):
That's what they're based on now, how they do it
and what they do and style of play, and you know,
Marquette's more of energy generated behaviors and kills and putting
that out there where Wisconsin's more k We're gonna keep
that in the house. We're not gonna be put that
out there. So everybody gets behind it. It's it's but
in the core of it is still we have great
people leaving two really good programs.
Speaker 4 (07:51):
What should be we should have a great game.
Speaker 1 (07:52):
That Shaka Smart, Madison Bourne Greg Greg Guard from Cobb, Wisconsin.
So the two head coaches, we know all about the
rivalry and what it means to the players and as
pushy as you say to the fans, and you don't
really need to look around more than.
Speaker 2 (08:08):
Two seconds to know what it means to the fans. Here.
Speaker 1 (08:11):
We have got a big time championship type of atmosphere
here in Milwaukee. This afternoon, Your officials, James Breeding, Matt Potter,
and Tony Chiaza is the Badgers and the traveling Cardinal Unis.
Speaker 2 (08:25):
And the white trim.
Speaker 1 (08:26):
Marquette will be in the home gold and a little
blue and.
Speaker 2 (08:29):
White trim as the Badgers on the floor.
Speaker 1 (08:31):
Marquette getting final instructions from fourth year head coach shack
Us Smarts.
Speaker 2 (08:38):
Right, just jump back into Big.
Speaker 1 (08:40):
Ten play on Tuesday night going down to Illinois, and
Marquette after today will play a week from today at
Dayton and then four days later they get into conference play,
opening at home against the Butler Bulldogs.
Speaker 2 (08:54):
So we'll keep our eyes on Chase Ross for you.
He is in the lineup.
Speaker 1 (08:58):
He played ten minutes, went out with an ankle injury
in their Wednesday game at Iowa State.
Speaker 2 (09:03):
If you're just checking us.
Speaker 1 (09:05):
Out, forget about the doubtful listing, as he is in
the starting lineup here for Shaka Smart this afternoon.
Speaker 3 (09:12):
You talk about Cam Jones had that ankle turn in,
didn't know if he was going to play against Iowa State.
Well he's not only played, he played pretty well yet
yeah he did.
Speaker 1 (09:21):
So here we go Ben Gold, Stephen Crowell ready to
jump center as they are on their feets in all
sections here at five serve forum. The Badgers and Marquette
meeting number one hundred and thirty one, toss and tapped
to Wisconsin. Badgers moved to our right, and we're underway
and Marquez straight up defensively. Blackwell against Stevie Mitchell. Now
(09:42):
Nolan Winter against David Joplin out the Naxs pleusband, shadowed
by Cam Jones.
Speaker 2 (09:46):
His Pleusband dribbles outside right.
Speaker 1 (09:48):
He'll leave it for Blackwell high in the right, thirteen
in the shot clock left, hands ribbling as Blackwell now
between the circles as Mitchell digs in defensively. Now black
one lay nice leave Winter low on the left. The
layup is good and the Badgers are first on the board.
Speaker 3 (10:01):
And good job attacking the basket. It's attacking the rim.
Good things happen.
Speaker 1 (10:06):
Marquette moving to our left. Badger straight up defensively. Chase
wask is off the cam Jones. He's against John Blackwell.
That would be a fun match up. The track working
off the screen. Now Klesman gets him on the switch
Jones and the lane turned around ten footter is good.
Speaker 2 (10:17):
We're tied at two.
Speaker 3 (10:19):
I think early on he had an interesting thing is Stevie.
Mitchell's guarding John Blackwell, not Max. Klesman kind of tells
you what they think of John Blackwell, how good he.
Speaker 4 (10:27):
Is, and what he means in this Wisconsin team.
Speaker 2 (10:29):
He's got that five.
Speaker 1 (10:30):
They've got a ton of respect for Blackwell, and they
know all about Klesmand too. Nolan winner at the top
of the circle and then it had gone back tied
at two. As we just get started here in Milwaukee,
pleasband against Mitchell. Now outside right shot Locke is it's
seven Max throwing at john Tonjay.
Speaker 2 (10:45):
He's with Ross. They work at the Blackwell four.
Speaker 1 (10:48):
To shoot, three, to shoot two and at three in
the year from Tanjay is no good and the rebound
will a lot of bounds untouched for alone of Marquette
good half four dee from Marquette is a get back
on off.
Speaker 3 (11:00):
I was a possession by wiscons where everyone just still
on the premmer. You just needed to cut to the
front of the rimen. You're gonna be wide open.
Speaker 1 (11:07):
About a minute and a half gone by tied it
too as Jones will bring it up the floor.
Speaker 2 (11:12):
I usage Rake and why not he's that good.
Speaker 1 (11:15):
Here's joppling against Winter Jopplin backing, and the lane ducks
in and the layup is good, and the Choplin out.
Speaker 2 (11:22):
Of Brookfields ceentral.
Speaker 1 (11:23):
It's for too Marquette and there's Nolan winner to the
front court for Wisconsin. Li's it for Tanjay, Tanja against
Camp Jones had a hip check. It's Tanjay to the
floor and Cam Jones a little slow to get up.
You're remascing a bit. Jones picked up the foul and
(11:45):
claps his hands and just gathers himself here as he
was grimacing. But he'll stay in there for a Marquette.
Speaker 3 (11:52):
That's what Tanja does so well, though, Just a quick rip.
When the defenders into your rip through, you're gonna get
a foul.
Speaker 1 (11:57):
And now he's past a Blackwell between the circles around
a Nolan Winter screen picked up by Choplin on the switch.
Now it's Winter against Mitchell outside right Winter one dribble.
Le's it for Klesbant ten of the shat clock. Blackwell
high on the right crowd, trying to get close position
gold to nine. Blackwell pounding steps back three on the
lay off the right side, High are no good offensive
rebound Crow out the max at the top of the circle.
(12:19):
Clesband feeds crow on the right side back to Klesband.
Fifteen in the shot clock. A throwing a blackwell snaps
off the three white corner, in and out. No good rebound,
thought Forth on the floor trying to dig it out of.
Speaker 2 (12:29):
There his crow. He does, and he's on his seat,
and he took a time out.
Speaker 1 (12:33):
So the Badgers will burn a time outlock quite two
and a half minutes into the game. They'll take the
time out and keep the basketball in seventeen thirty eight
left in the first half, four to two, Marquette. We'll
keep it here and tell you today's game is brought
to you and bite by Alliant Energy. Visit Theliant energy
dot com to see how Alliant Energy invest in diverse
energy solutions for today and the future. Thirty second time
(12:55):
out here for Wisconsin, and.
Speaker 3 (12:57):
I think if you're Wisconsin, getting the ball, extra opportunities,
offensive rebound, and like big Steve is able to get
that ball, calls.
Speaker 4 (13:05):
That time out.
Speaker 3 (13:06):
But it's an actual possession more than anything, you know.
And you look, where are you gonna find that? There's
a mismatch down low and there is just you can
see by the way Marquet's trying to guard what Wisconsin's running.
They don't know how to guard Steven Craft. Now, if
you Wisconsin, you can't force that. It's got to naturally
go to Steve when he's open. But the ball's got
to move. I'm seeing right now at times Wisconsin's holding
(13:29):
itches a little bit longer, trying to get that.
Speaker 4 (13:31):
Ball to the post. Move it. Steve should be.
Speaker 3 (13:34):
He's played enough basketball to understand how to seal when
it comes around background boom.
Speaker 4 (13:38):
That's with a pass there.
Speaker 3 (13:39):
But you can't hold that ball against his Marquette defense.
Speaker 2 (13:41):
What you were talking about in your Keys to the game.
Speaker 1 (13:43):
Leave the ball side absolutely, the defense move and here's
Blackwell baseline right right of the inbound Winter flash.
Speaker 2 (13:51):
But we could not connect. They get it into Tanja
outside right.
Speaker 1 (13:55):
I'm j feeding. Winter rotates to Klesmant. Match with a
three left with a circle good Max Klesmant, who is
just seven of thirty nine from three over the last
seven games and has Markeett people scared to death five
to four Wisconsint two forty gone by Ben Gold hands
off the chase. Wass He'll dribble to the right baseline
back out the Gold flips to Jones top of the circle.
(14:16):
Blackwell defense Cam Jones on the right hand ribble along
the right lane line works in the lane, twisting, scooping
and hit him with the right hand Tam Jones gives
Marquette six to five. Leave three minutes in here in Milwaukee,
here's Klesbant dribbling off the right wing in the lane.
Stops to the paint, which the Blackwell so if the
look turned it down back out the Plesmant another three
on the way. Good again, two strokes, two hits from
(14:39):
distance for Max Klesbant. At its eight six Wisconsin, there's
Chase Wass left hand ribble to the line down the
lane and.
Speaker 2 (14:46):
Throws it up. Missed, but a foul.
Speaker 1 (14:50):
They'll get Max Klesmant and that's the first on wisconcerts.
Speaker 4 (14:54):
It has been the only thing he's done bad. But
he does.
Speaker 3 (14:56):
He reaches down and as he's gard just play with
your chest, show your hands, especially because offensively you're feeling
it early on in this game. Keep yourself on the floor.
Speaker 1 (15:09):
Chase Ross fourteen of twenty one at the foul and
getting into this game and the left he hits the
first free throw Xavier Amos will come in for Nolan Winter,
Kamari McGee checking in for John Blackwell. So Amos getting
a little bit of run against Michigan on Tuesday night.
Second free throw for Ross is straight through, and.
Speaker 3 (15:30):
I think this game matches up well for e Xavier
as well.
Speaker 1 (15:35):
Then one two to two presses on for Marquette. Tied
at eight. Three minutes and twenty seconds into the game.
Piger's going to cross half court. John Tanja against Ben
Gold ribbles to the left block. Pivots needs some help
and finds Kamari McGhee and they'll reset the floor. Klesman
high on the rights, Max Offer, Xavier Amos, screen, Lesbond,
(15:55):
feeds Amos right side, votes it out. The Klesban three
on the way again, not this time long rebound Stephen
Krout those inside of Tanjay Spinder flow on the left
pushed it up back ram and out.
Speaker 3 (16:06):
No but a foul, And I was gonna want I
was wondering when the when the call was gonna happen
because John got hit right in the back of the head.
It was a delayed wisdom, but it was called.
Speaker 1 (16:17):
When they get David Joplin, that'll be his first foul
and John Tanjay goes to the free throw line n
and Iver. Wisconsin did not shoot the three well. Against Michigan,
Tonjay was three out of five and roots to an
eighteen point performance. He hits the first free throw. He
is ninety four percent for the foul line coming into
this game. Nine eight Wisconsin early going at five, served
(16:39):
four him sixteen thirteen left of the half.
Speaker 4 (16:41):
You like round it up, don't you?
Speaker 1 (16:43):
I docile simplify yeah, podcast one on one. I flunked
it three times, but I eventually got a right second
free throw no good. Nine eight Wisconsin. Damn trying to
visa for David Joplin. Joplin at the top of the circle.
Xavier Amos defending Joplin Lisa for washed three shots left corner,
skimmed the rim, no good rebound backtap by Gold out
the Jones face. The three got by Kamara McGee swoops
(17:05):
to the rim, high arching shot in the left hand
off the glass and end Shones with six. Marquette leads
ten to nine. Four fifteen gone by Lou's Tanjay blows
off the left wing to the goal way up off
the left side, high are no good. Ben Gold the
rebound for Marquette, Shones to the front court. McGee defending Jones,
(17:26):
penetrates backs in the lane, throws it up backy Are
no good Exavier Amos the rebound for Wisconsin four and
a half minutes to end, ten to nine. Marquette, he
throwing the crow, hands it back to Kamara, throws the
dribble easy for Krow left in a circle, tightly defended
by gold I pass out to Amos between the Yorks
Hexavier Amus backing in lost his balance, lost the ball
(17:48):
trying to dig it out of there.
Speaker 3 (17:49):
He does.
Speaker 1 (17:50):
They get a tie up held ball arrow Marquette as
we'll have a hunder sixteen eighty a time out. They
Badger fans and we're looking for the perfect end game me.
He'll choose a group pub pizza voaded with quality meat

(18:12):
eight left to the first half, Barquette ten, Wisconsin nine.

first half Marquette ten, Wisconsin nine.
Speaker 3 (18:45):
I think early on Wisconsin was six three point attempts
already only two other shots that aren't threes.
Speaker 4 (18:52):
Max has made.
Speaker 3 (18:53):
Two of those. Forced a lot of long rebounds, so
Wisconsin has been able to get a couple of offense
rebounds off of that as well.
Speaker 1 (19:00):
Cam Jones off to a good start. He has six
points for Marquette. There is up the floor as Demarus
Owens Press, a freshman out of Rochester, New York, is
off to Chase Ross. Ross left in the lane against
Kamari McGee. Ross lost the handle. He goes into the
hands of John Blackwell turnover Marquette. Here's Tan Jay whips
it to McGee left corner almost launched the three did
(19:21):
not caught her. Gilmore on the floor for Wisconsinality has
the ball throws the nolden Winter they wrote take the
CHOHn Jay on the right side. Sam Jones is getting
a little break right now for Marquette. Is Bakee or
bank that Gilmore trying to bounce one through traffic into Blackwell.
It goes through untouched and out of bounds. Turnover Wisconsin
trying to.
Speaker 3 (19:41):
Force a pass that just isn't there.
Speaker 1 (19:45):
Part of that k Jones his rest time is over
as he comes back in replacing Stevie Mitchell.
Speaker 3 (19:50):
And I'm really intrigued by the guard matchup because they're
looking like you're wanting to try to post Kamari a
little bit more right, and both of Marquette's guards can
do that.
Speaker 1 (20:00):
Jones against McGhee right now at the mid court logo
fourteen twenty left, first half ten nine Marquette Jones kicks
it back three in the air straight away is short,
no good from Royce Parham and the rebound comes down
to McGee of Wisconsin. Still comes Kamari left side of
the front court wins Cauter Gilmore right of the circle,
a flip for Nolan Winner at the top Nines Blackwell
(20:20):
baseline left, jumps off of the lane, kicks to Gilmore
three shots straight on book it Carter Gilmore his second
triple of this season, and it's twelve to ten Wisconsin.
Six minutes in, Hilarius Owens scribbling to the right lane
line off the Parham rotates to Ross wide open three
left side back rim no good rebound tipped pulled down
(20:40):
by Tanjay of Wisconsin. One and out for Marquette Donjay
a left hand pass for Winner, throws to McGee in
the left wing.
Speaker 2 (20:47):
Camari curling, you're the left elbow.
Speaker 3 (20:49):
He's it for Gilmore at the.
Speaker 1 (20:50):
Top, turns the right side for Blackwell. Blackwell against David Jopplin.
Now Winter finds Conjay. He snaps off the three left
wing Good Hanjay this first three fifteen to ten Wisconsin.
Speaker 3 (21:03):
The ball's getting multiple sides there.
Speaker 1 (21:06):
Thirteen twenty left in the first half. Par Ham of
the right side pops off the screen, throwing to Ross
high on the left. Boss will leave it for Jones,
with McGee out on him defensively part in the screen.
Jones will use it, moving to his left left lane
line hooks it out to par Ham. Three shot, light
of the circle, off the rim, no good rebound. Black
llve Wisconsin behind the back on the drive to the
front court and the Badgers get it, operates, get the
(21:28):
operation going and trying to say is McGee will throw
it out to Nolan Winter outside right, feeds Gilmore left
of the circle.
Speaker 2 (21:35):
A little spin mook Killy goes down the lane.
Speaker 1 (21:37):
One pump pivots pumps again, lower the left up, no
good rebound. Fought four and gathered by David Joplin of Marquette.
It's two on three in Joplin not liking those numbers.
Fans that dribble out to the right wing now looking
to attack baseline right against Tanja throws it out to
Ross High and the right Laws in the left hand
drill stops top of the circle. Throws to Joplin right wing.
Choplin will let it fly for three and that's off
(21:59):
the rim. No good the rebound. Parham and Winter neither
can get it. Gilmour does for Wisconsin.
Speaker 3 (22:05):
Wisconsin's limiting Marquette's opportunities. As soon as that ball goes up,
good job.
Speaker 1 (22:10):
It's well fifteen left first half fifteen to ten Wisconsin
Tanjay another triple try no good on the left plane
and the rebound of Damarius Owens of Marquette. Here comes
Cam Jones to the front court for the Golden Eagles.
Outside left Jones right hand ribil to the line down
the lane to the rim, got tied up by McGee
and the foul is called dam Jones will go to
(22:30):
the free throw line first foul Kamarie McGee as we
have a break in the action here in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

we go to commercial break, let's pause ten seconds for
station identification ten for an ID. This is Badger basketball
from lear Field break with eleven fifty eight left in
the first half. Wisconsin fifteen Marquette ten. This is Badger
basketball from lear Field. Hey, Badger fansy Wisconsin Pork Association
(23:14):
encourages you to enjoy pork while supporting our Badgers all
year long. Visit WPPA dot org for recipes and information.
Eleven fifty eight left in the first half. Hanson four
out of nine from distances to Badgers. Lee Marquette fifteen
to ten.
Speaker 3 (23:29):
Yeah, five assists on five minute shots.
Speaker 4 (23:31):
Say that's pretty good.
Speaker 3 (23:31):
That's pretty the ball's movement and that's why you're you're
looking at, you know, four of nine from three, but
you're looking at getting good quality shots. And that's why
Wisconsin right now is up by five.
Speaker 1 (23:43):
Max Clesbant was six on two to three point hits.
Cam Jones with six and he's worked at in side
More Klusman back in there, Jack jen Nicky, John Blackwell,
Exavier Amos and Stephen Krow. Trey Norman in the lineup
now for Marquette. So out of Boston, which is about
a point and a half a game, Ben Gold, Cam Jones,
(24:05):
Chase Ross and Cayden Hamilton. Two hundred and fifty pounds
Richard freshman out of California. Cam Jones at the line,
he shoots two and he is good with the first
sixty eight percent free throw shooter is Jones. For as
much as he does, he doesn't get to the free
throw line a lot, but he still scores a lot,
gets a lot of rebounds, and gets a lot of assists.
(24:27):
Second free throw is good. You know, his eight points.
It's a little bit of everything he really does. Press
was on for the Marquette. Now a one pass in
release is bringing it up as Blackwell against Norman breaks
half court of the right side. Eleven fifty eleven, first half,
fifteen twelve, Wisconsin. Now the trap on Blackwell and they're
gonna get a held ball. They're gonna say, Greg guard
not happy arrow, Wisconsin. So the Badgers keep the possession,
(24:50):
but they're going to lose the arrow. I think Greg
was looking for a cylinder.
Speaker 3 (24:53):
That's exactly what he was too. And it looked like
it probably could have.
Speaker 1 (24:57):
Been that the Miles passed to Blackwell out between the circles,
throwing the crow high on the left Hamilton defense. Now
Amos at the top, he's with Ben Gold. Amos the
duke to the right, A couple of dribbles to his left.
Now moves back to his right light of the lane,
trying to trap him and coming in with Ross who
got ball but got body as well, and the foul
and Chase Ross will be his first.
Speaker 2 (25:19):
So we're eight nine, but it's in and both sides
are unhappy.
Speaker 3 (25:22):
He would go, yeah, and I'm gonna say that that
might have been a little bit of a makeup call
from the cylinder.
Speaker 4 (25:30):
Yes, I know, it's a whole lot of orange on that.
Speaker 1 (25:34):
There's Kleasme going into Crow at the top of the circle.
Crow threw it away, breaking to the basket was amos.
The pass went to the corner and it's a turnover
for Wisconsin. And the only silver lining there is with
these early turnovers dead ball.
Speaker 3 (25:49):
Absolutely none of them have led to Marquette getting out
and run.
Speaker 1 (25:54):
Ket averages eleven and a half steals per game on
his third best in the country. The turnover against him
teams turning over about a quarter of the time.
Speaker 2 (26:04):
It's putting to Ken Paul.
Speaker 1 (26:05):
Here's jam Jones throwing the Hamilton top of the circle,
back to Jones top of the wheel. Let's apply for
three and it is in and out and back in
Dan Jones putting on a show early.
Speaker 2 (26:15):
We're tied at fifteen, and.
Speaker 4 (26:16):
When he gives it up, you got to get right
into him.
Speaker 3 (26:18):
Jack to Nicky doesn't in just enough space.
Speaker 1 (26:20):
For him to get off Blackwell off the left wing,
and he is fouled by Trey Norman. So black Bell
putting it on the deck, able to draw the contact.
Alan shacks Smart pleading his case. Fifteen all, ten to
fifty one left in.
Speaker 2 (26:32):
The first half.
Speaker 1 (26:34):
Four fouls against Marquette Badgers, guilty of a couple as
John Tanjay set the check back in four Wisconsin.
Speaker 2 (26:40):
He is in for Jack Jennicky, and.
Speaker 3 (26:42):
It wasn't that Jack played bad defense. It's just you
need to get some more minutes to understand how to
guard that.
Speaker 1 (26:47):
Little don jay Well then bound to Blackwell out near
half court.
Speaker 4 (26:52):
That's gonna go the other way, agains Steve.
Speaker 1 (26:54):
You got Krall pushing off on Caden Hamilton left of
the lane, and the vowl on steve'll be his first
of the team's third.
Speaker 3 (27:01):
But seeing that possession, the ball stuck is pound pound
and the Steeds getting frustrated. So he's gonna pick up
the offensive foul there. Now there's contact probably before that,
but just wait for the ball get reversed and then
seal the defender.
Speaker 1 (27:14):
Ten forty left in the half, tied at fifteen. Jones
throwing the gold hands it back to Jones against Blackwell
hooks it back to Gold for three straight on straight
in Ben Gold from Cam Jones Mark cap At at eight
point one, leading eighteen to fifteen.
Speaker 4 (27:27):
We knew at some point or run was coming.
Speaker 1 (27:30):
Ten twenty five left first half, Xavier Amos dribbling down
the lane, runs it up a whistle. I think before
the shot Vallas called here, they're gonna get Ben Gold.
It'll be his first.
Speaker 2 (27:45):
Carter.
Speaker 1 (27:46):
Gilmore will come in for Xavier Amos. Badgers will be
unbounding baseline right. Marquette leads eighteen to fifteen. With ten
minutes and twenty seconds left to the first half, Blackwell
will throw it in for Wisconsin, looking lurking, pearling as
Pleasant can't get free to love it into Stephen Krowe
(28:06):
catching and a contested catch of the right wing ars
it off to Gilmore, turns it back to Krow sends
through Tanjay baseline right in the lane, and the.
Speaker 2 (28:15):
Other tie up.
Speaker 1 (28:16):
Jones tied him up Arrow Marquette, that's kind of what
you were talking about. But you know you might get hit,
but they're not going to call it. So how do
you ring back to it?
Speaker 2 (28:31):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (28:31):
So now here Wisconsin and they go, okay, this how's
going to be. Let's let's go. Let's play on. Halfway
through the first half, eighteen to fifteen, Marquette goldtop of
the circle, hands off the Jones high on the left.
Jones still dribbling out between the circles, drifting on the
right side. You know, Tanja will get him off the switch,
he said, Kayden Hamilton back to Jones, down the lane,
(28:51):
swoops it left hand or.
Speaker 2 (28:52):
Round it out, no good.
Speaker 1 (28:53):
Crowd the rebound out let the Blackwell three point lead Marquette.
Here's Klesbant opened three pocket, not his time, no good,
want it out. Chase Bross the rebound for Marquette. He'll
push it up the middle of the front, leads it
for Hamilton, left of the lane. It's the Badgers get
back in transition. Backing is Hamilton, single coverage crowd Hamilton
pivots goes up right hand, no good, rebound knocked out
(29:15):
of bounds and belong to Wisconsin. With nine left in
the half, eighteen to fifteen Marquettes.
Speaker 3 (29:23):
And both ways there's lots of content. Yes, that's what
this is. So I get wanting to complain. It's not
gonna get you anywhere in this game. Yeah, just got
a you gotta play through it.
Speaker 2 (29:36):
Yeah, not for the not for the meek.
Speaker 4 (29:39):
Here today, this game never happens.
Speaker 1 (29:41):
Here's Tanjay the front court of the right side breaking
the press. Now no one the right goes up, got
found by Ben Gold and John Tonjay said, Okay, let's
do it.
Speaker 4 (29:50):
That's the difference.
Speaker 2 (29:51):
That's two on Gold.
Speaker 1 (29:52):
Now as Tanja will go to the free throw line
for two shots. Badgers have gone scoreless for the last
four plus minutes. Tonjay will try to put a stop
to that. He is one of two at the free
throw line. Four points so far for Tanja.
Speaker 3 (30:09):
And that's we're having an experienced player just understanding the moment,
the time, kind of the run that Marquette's on. All right,
try to get to the free thrown. Slow this thing down.
Put some points on the board.
Speaker 1 (30:24):
Hayden Hamilton, who had checked out a moment and go
checks right back in. Has Gold on the bench within
two foul. Second free throw for Tanjay is good. Eighteen
seventeen Marquette with nine to twelve left of the first half,
Jones hands off to Stevie Mitchell. A bounce for Hamilton
left foul line extended, leaves it for Jones baseline left.
The floater is off the rimming out, no good, another
rebound for Steven Krow.
Speaker 2 (30:45):
He'll leave it for Blackwell man he will jug it.
Speaker 1 (30:48):
Up the floor for Wisconsin looks off a high screen
from Crow high and the right, throwing to Stevie top
of the circle, and it's poked away from behind by
Hamilton and added owns to Wisconsin. Hamilton is six '
to nine in a solid two point fifty A red
shirt freshman Nolan Winter coming in for crowd now.
Speaker 2 (31:06):
Shot clock at nineteen eight fifty.
Speaker 1 (31:07):
One left and a half Todd Jay sideline left, will
throw it into John Blackwell. Blackwell surveys the Marquette defense
showing a little zone and we'll do that and often
morph into a man than some of the Marquette games
are watched. There's zone right now, five to shoot. Here's
Blackwell high on the left with two to shoot. Well
with one gotta go win sur that's going to be
(31:29):
too late. He made it, but it was well after
the shot clock had expired, so jar Wisconsin kind of
caught on its heels. There is Marquette throwing a little
zone at the Badgers. Again not unexpected if the Badgers
did not handle it well. As McGee comes in for
Blackwell eight thirty one left in the half eighteen seventeen Marquette.
Speaker 3 (31:51):
And against that zone just quicker decision six turnovers here
by Wisconsin.
Speaker 1 (31:56):
Joels to the front court for Marquette high screen. David
Joplet hooks it back to Joplet top of the Gilmore defense.
Drop that drives the lane, stops track of the ball. Absolutely,
I've tried to hit the brinks for dragging the pivot
foot and Marquette guilty of the turnover. As Chase Ross
will come back in full of the Golden Eagles and
for Tray Norman eighteen seventeen Marquette with eight twenty one
left in the first half. It's a totally pressure Right here,
(32:20):
right up the floor is Carter Gilmore through the McCord logo,
Leeza for Klesman hind the left facts tossed it back
to Gilmore. He eats Nolan Winter suns to Gilmore left
of the circle, a pass for Kamari McGee will screen
and roll inside Gilmore outside tan Jay for three right corner.
Speaker 2 (32:35):
That's black.
Speaker 1 (32:36):
It comes back to tan Jay baseline right and the
lane lost the handle. Turnover Wisconsin. Here's Chase Ross Ross
on the go left of the lane, off balance shop
blocked by Gilmore. Here's McGee the other way for Wisconsin. Tomori,
the middle man drives a lane, throws it up and
in off the glass as he goes, crashing into the
Marquette cheerleaders as the Badgers lead nineteen to eighteen. Jones
(32:57):
the other way stops baseline right. With seven thirty nine
left to the first half, David Joplin left handed with
the left el bowen. He'll retreat top of the circle.
Bob's off a Hamilton screen picked up by winner of
the switch. When the lane throws it up in a
over Winter David Jopplin with four back and forth we
go twenty to nineteen.
Speaker 3 (33:13):
Marquette all right, and back and forth is right, That's
exactly the pace is so quick right now.
Speaker 1 (33:18):
Seven twenty left of the first half, Tanja right corner,
dribbles to the wing, crows to Gilmore, refeats Tanjay. It
rotates the Winter left of the circle. Winter one dribble
to hand off the mass. Klesmans bought about to turn
it down and a pass was knocked away contact made
it pal against Marquette, and I think they said cam
Jones there and if that's the case, that's two on
(33:42):
Marquette Star Guard.
Speaker 2 (33:43):
As we have the under eight media time out.

Seven oh nine left to the first half. Marquette twenty,
Wisconsin nineteen. This is Badger basketball from lear Field. Let's
(34:10):
get to a US Banks scoreboard up Kay. Two Big
Ten games have gone final. Ohio State, which got blottled
earlier in the week against Maryland put at two. Rutgers
today eighty to sixty six, and it was Michigan State
eighty nine, Nebraska fifty two.
Speaker 4 (34:26):
Yes, you said that correctly.
Speaker 1 (34:28):
Wow, I had to look at that a couple of times.
Welcome to the Big Ten. I mean, good solid teams
can get boat raced. Max Klesbant will be at the
free throw line as we get set to resume play.
We have seven oh nine left to the first half.
Marquette twenty Wisconsin, nineteen pleasant with a couple of three
point hits, thirty nine percent of the foul lineal one
(34:51):
in one. The free throw is good again. That foul
was on Cam Jones. So he is on the bench
with two fouls.
Speaker 3 (34:58):
And Wisconsin's in. The bonus is set on nine left.
Who's you can't forget why you've gotten to the bonus.
You've been strong with the ball more or less. Yes,
you've got six turnovers, but more most of the time here,
you've driven, you've handled the contact, You've done a good job.
Can't get three point happy right now.
Speaker 1 (35:15):
Though, we Lesbian comes out making those free throws. Blackwell
is back in twenty one, twenty Wisconsin.
Speaker 2 (35:22):
He's up the floor.
Speaker 1 (35:23):
It's Chase Ross. He'll hand it to Owens, gives to
Hamilton at the top. Feeds Ross left wing, looking around
the screen and inside the Hamilton pivots in the lane,
tossed it out right wing for Joplin.
Speaker 2 (35:33):
He's with Carter Gilmour.
Speaker 1 (35:34):
Joplin trying to drive him baseline and he got cut
off and then fouled by Gilmore. I'll be the first
on Carter and the fourth on Wisconsin. If you're wondering
Shaka is Smart and Greg Garter are pretty close to
the same at least early returns this season on playing
guys with two fouls in the first half, Jones is
on the bench with two right now and bounce past
(35:55):
the Hamilton right wing, goes it out to Damarius Owens
at the top of the circle. Owens right hand ribbled,
try to back on Blackwell throwing a Hamilton right corner.
Speaker 2 (36:04):
Shot Clock at ten.
Speaker 1 (36:05):
Hamilton moving in on Winter pivots pumps upright hand good.
Speaker 2 (36:09):
Off the glass.
Speaker 1 (36:10):
Good phill work there really was right check Freshman suppressive
twenty two to twenty one. Marquette six and a half
minutes left to the first half. Muri McGee throwing to
Nolan Winter feeds Blackwell, gives to Gilmore at the top.
Gil Moore scoops it to McGee, Kamuri to the top
of the circle, all sends to Winter. A flip for
Blackwell left side, brings it back out front, Lis to Gilmore.
Speaker 2 (36:31):
Shot clock is at ten. Blackwell along the.
Speaker 1 (36:33):
Left sideline throwing to Gilmore at the top, turns it
to Tanjay finding a gap off the right wing out
to McGee, whits to Gilmore four to shoot Gilly to
the line in the length, slips it in a Nolan
Winters slam dunk all nice fine with a shot clock
winding down, twenty three twenty two Wisconsin, six minutes left
to the first half. David Joplin for a market on
the right side, so they's the defense throws to Stevie Mitchell,
(36:56):
with Tanjay defending Mitchell throwing a Hamilton slagging off him
as Nolan Winter Hamilton just under the three point line,
shot block at ten. Joplin driving a left lane line
pushed it up off the glass and down. He has
six twenty four to twenty three Marquette, five thirty five
left to the first half. Poter Gilmour outside left for Wisconsin.
(37:20):
Wilmore kills the dribble, bounces that Tanja against Mitchell left wing.
Tanja now this second defender and Choplin and a foul
is called. This will get Tanja to the line for
a one and one on team found number eight against Marquette.
Speaker 3 (37:32):
And my question was with Cam Jones out, where was
the offense gonna come from? Mark? Yeah, but David Joblins
answered that question for them. But offensive for Wisconsin, they've
been patient. You can see that when John Tanji gets
a ball on the wing area, that Marquette's bringing the
double team right away. Done did a good job of
reading that double team, dribbling around that, getting the foul
and getting the free throw line.
Speaker 1 (37:53):
So and they get that second foul on Joplin, who
comes out.
Speaker 3 (37:58):
The same question, where's the that's gonna come from? For
Marquette for the next five to twenty three? Now, I
don't anticipate cam Jones being out the whole five to
twenty three here, even though Shaka doesn't like playing guys
with two fouls.
Speaker 1 (38:11):
Tanjay hits the first free throw. Yeah, I mean Gregg's
numbers are higher than usual. That the two foul participation
a lot of that game from the Arizona correct game
though it's the second free throw from Tanjay is good.
Twenty five to twenty four Wisconsin with five twenty left
to the first half, Stevie Mitchell to the front court
the Boys, par Ham goes off to Chase Ross. Now
Mitchell long three right of the circle, straight through. Steve
(38:35):
Mitchell doesn't shoot many, but he's very efficient.
Speaker 3 (38:38):
I was gonna say he's now eight of thirteen on
the season.
Speaker 1 (38:41):
Yeah, that would be very efficient twenty seven to twenty
five Marquette. Five minutes left first half, gil Moore leaves
it for Tanjay against Owens, dribbles off the left wing
into a crowd chase Ross they're helping. The foul is
called the will bail out variety. There they get it
on to Marrius Owens. That'll be his first This team
(39:06):
found number nine against Marquette. Max Klesbant ready to check
in again for Wisconsin and for Carter gilmoy so Tanjay
will go back to the foul line. Badger's down two
with four fifty five left in the first half.
Speaker 2 (39:21):
Don Jay with eight points.
Speaker 1 (39:24):
Five coming from the free throw line five out of
six front end of the one and one is good.
Speaker 3 (39:33):
But that's where John is done a fantastic job in
this game and just continuing to put his head down
and drive. Put his head down and drive, understanding what
needs to happen.
Speaker 1 (39:44):
Second free throw coming up for Tanjay on the way,
nothing but net tied at twenty seven, four fifty five
left in the first half. Ross Lisa for Mitchell out
top Alice Parham dribbling to the left wing, Crow back
in defending Parham, backing on him in the lane, goes
up right hand around Crow off the left side of
the rim.
Speaker 2 (40:03):
No good.
Speaker 1 (40:04):
Tanjay rips away the rebound for Wisconsin. Tanjy dribbling left
hand of the front court to the line, down the
lane to the rim, push it up in. Traffick rolls
in for John Toanjay and the Badgers lead twenty nine
to twenty seven.
Speaker 3 (40:15):
Kid is just different if he understands the moment, what
to do, how to read defenses.
Speaker 1 (40:21):
Four twenty three left in the half, Owen stops the
dribble at the free throw line, tossed it back out
to Chase loss against McGee wass blue by him, goes
to the rim up around Tanjay, miss but a foul.
It'll go against Tonjay. That'll be his first and free
throws coming up for Marquette. Badgers are nine out of
ten at the foul line. Marquette four of four. Chase Ross,
(40:46):
who played the ten minutes on Wednesday night, left with
the ankle injury, but right back in the lineup for
Marquette today. He is two of two at the foul
line for his free throw is short and he's Gonnaquette
ready to sub again. Cayden Hamilton will re enter in
for Ben gold Well.
Speaker 3 (41:05):
We had two and that's what you know Shak is
trying to do right now is monitor these two fouls. Thankfully,
for Wisconsin, there's really not that many issues. You've got.
Kamari's got one, Tanja's got one, Max has got one.
Big Steve's got one.
Speaker 1 (41:19):
Second free throw coming up for Chase Ross and he
is good with the second, so he splits twenty nine
to twenty eight Wisconsin. Maquette showing little back court pressure,
starting to release it with four to ten left in
the half. Twenty nine twenty eighth, the Badgers becket to
the front court, throwing at Tanjay a toss for Max
Klesman Hih on the left, bounce past crowd, Stevie between
the circles against Kayden and Hamilton to flift for John
(41:40):
Blackwell and the right wing. Blackwell left hand dribble against Royce.
Parham picks up the dribble, feeds Tanjay, rise by Mitchell
in the lane, jump stop out the Blackwell for three
straight on and it's short, no good to rebounde Maarius
owns a Marquette chance for Marquette to regain the lead.
Owens driving right down the lane knocked away, they'll get
a foul called. And if it's Tanjay, that's gonna be
(42:02):
two on him.
Speaker 3 (42:04):
That's who it is too.
Speaker 1 (42:05):
Yep, it is so two on John. Tanjay likely will
sit the remainder of the half. He has twelve points.
This will take a break at the under four media timeout.

half Wisconsin twenty nine, Marquette twenty eight. This is Badger
Basketball from leir Field. US Bank is a proud partner
of Wisconsin Athletics Together. There's nothing as powerful as the
power of US US Bank equle Housing Lender Member f
d C. Sixteen lead changes. Yeah, that's what it says,
(42:50):
sixteen that changes.
Speaker 3 (42:52):
That's not wrong. There's gonna be a lot more of
them too. We anticipated this with this game. Yep.
Speaker 4 (42:57):
Well, there's two really good basketball teams.
Speaker 1 (43:00):
Three minutes and forty two seconds left to the first half.
Wisconsin twenty nine, Marquette twenty eight. So I'm talking about
the lead changes. You also have some fouls piling up.
Ben Gold with two, David Jopplym with two, Cam Jones
with two. John Tonjay just picked up his second, so
Tanjay on the bench. You've got crowd, Gilmour, Blackwell, Klesmans
(43:25):
and McGhee on the floor for Wisconsin. Damarius Owens in Rochester,
New York, Western Reserve Academy in Ohio. The first free
throw is good for Owens. He was there, as was
Royce Parham, as was a few years ago. Marcus Ilver
on the Wisconsin roster. Owen's hitting the first free throw
(43:45):
for his first point of the day, and he is
good with the second. Lee change number seventeen. It's now
thirty to twenty nine. Marquette as Marquette showing press and
bounce pass to McGee. Canario bring it up, Canarius Owens
defense our m teasing trap and waltz as McGee breaks
the half coour to the right side. Three and a
half minutes left till the halftime, one point lead. Marquette,
(44:07):
Max Klusman out front for the Badgers. We'll throw to
Stephen Krow goes inside, Gilmore back out the McGee three
shot right corner good inside out.
Speaker 2 (44:16):
They go thirty two to thirty.
Speaker 3 (44:17):
Wisconsin's just great ball movement is what that was? Extra
passes playing for each other.
Speaker 1 (44:22):
Three thirteen left till halftime. Owen's out front leads up
for Stevie Mitchell between the circles. Mitchell whips to Owens
hind and the left goes into Hamilton left of the lane,
single coverage, crowd backing his Hamilton left shoulder, turning up
right hand back rim, no crowd the rebound four Wisconsin
out let the Blackwell boost to the middle, sho out
of the front court to the line, down the lane
to the rim, lay up. No good as we've missed
(44:44):
the chance of rebound, lose a tip and a foul called.
Speaker 2 (44:49):
And this will go.
Speaker 1 (44:50):
Against Kamarie McGee and that will be his second foul
for two minutes and fifty on one seconds left in
the first half, and that his team found number seven
like ains to Wisconsin.
Speaker 3 (45:12):
I don't think there was a lot there on that.
Speaker 4 (45:13):
Come on, I really did.
Speaker 3 (45:15):
Yeah, that was the first time where I'm like, oh, okay,
trying to figure out where that happened.
Speaker 1 (45:20):
Owen's at one and one, he hit two A moment ago.
Jack Janicky ready to check in for Wisconsin. Front end
is good as Janicki will come in for McGee, who
will stay with two fasts.
Speaker 3 (45:31):
And what this back and forth has done, it's a
loud shot, a smart to keep Cam Jones on the bench.
I did not think that he'd be on the bench
for the last six minutes of his first half, but
right now, with where they're at, there's there's no reason
to put him in.
Speaker 1 (45:45):
Second Balkin yep segad free throws Good tied at thirty two,
two point fifty left to the first half. Blackwell up
the floor for Wisconsin, throwing the clutter. Gilmore at the
logo they'd poured logo rangles left. He is off to
Klesman of the right side, who said a cup the
threes in this game. Max against Chase Ross kills the dribble,
throws the Crow high on the left. The Crows, being
(46:07):
crowded by Hamilton, gets to pass into Blackwell, try to
trap him seven to shoe a bump.
Speaker 2 (46:13):
They play on outter.
Speaker 1 (46:14):
Janicki three shot right corner back rim no good three
about Mitchell had it lost at gil Nor cleans it
up second chance. Wisconsin off the left wing Blackwell to
the rim lay up is good.
Speaker 3 (46:25):
Shoulder, yeah, Stevin Mitchell's shoulder.
Speaker 2 (46:27):
Yeah, he is shaking up.
Speaker 4 (46:28):
He's hurt.
Speaker 2 (46:29):
We have stop play.
Speaker 1 (46:32):
There's the Badgers regain the lead thirty four to thirty
two with two seventeen left in the first half.
Speaker 5 (46:38):
So Mitchell will come out. Cam Jones is in forces.
Cam's Jones in h We just literally just talked about that.
Speaker 3 (46:45):
But they don't have anyone else they're gonna throw in
that situation.
Speaker 2 (46:49):
Couldn't really tell from the fox WePlay.
Speaker 1 (46:51):
It's his shoulders, yeah, but what but what you know
if you got how he wo tide him up.
Speaker 3 (46:55):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (46:56):
So here's Cam Jones out front. Badger's up two two
oh five left and half Jones picked up by Janicky
on the switch. Jones going to work on the backs
of the lane, goes up left hand Ti game Jones
with thirteen were tied at thirty four with a minute fifty.
Speaker 2 (47:11):
Five left in the half.
Speaker 1 (47:13):
Blackwell for Wisconsin throwing the crow outside left crow match
up with Kayden Hamilton to throw to Gilbore hands off,
the Klusband snaps off the three nailed it matched Clusband
drilling his third triple of the half. Thirty seven thirty
four Wisconsin one thirty seven left till halftime, the various
Owens off the Hamilton screen left wing, throws it back
out to Hamilton feeds Owens left side, takes it off
(47:37):
the wing against Klesban in the lane, kick out the
Jones long three straight on.
Speaker 2 (47:41):
In and out.
Speaker 1 (47:42):
No good, crowd the rebound for Wisconsin one twenty left
and the half three point lead for the Badger's Black
Blow on the front four of the right side. Blackwelve
got a round. Owens dropped at the Gilmore at the
right block, turns it back out. The crow feeds to
Nicky three shot left corner. That's over everything. Hamilton clears
from Marquette one oh seven left and the half thirty
seven thirty four Wisconsin.
Speaker 2 (48:01):
Jones up the left side for the Golden Eagles on
the wing a screen from Hamilton. Jones takes it off
the left wing and the lane. Klesman goes down. They
play on Hamilton's left wide open. He'll measure, He takes
a deep breath, he shoots the three. It's off the rim.
No good, It's gonna be a foul. Foul on Jack
Nigga out here against Wisconsin. It's on parhm, beg your pardon.
Speaker 1 (48:24):
I tell you, Kate Hambleton, he you know he's five
of no, he's beg your pardon, zero of five from three.
He had about a half a day to eye up
that shot. They're saying, take it, take it, take it.
Wisconsin was saying that, and he did, and a foul
and the loose ball.
Speaker 2 (48:40):
We go to the other end.
Speaker 3 (48:41):
I'm just gonna say, anytime you can take a deep
breath like you did, like he did, you probably don't
want to shoot it.
Speaker 5 (48:48):
The old line gather you're open for a reason. Boger
his shoulders a little bit. Never, you don't want to
do that.
Speaker 2 (48:57):
Badger's in a double bonus.
Speaker 1 (48:59):
His black ball makes the first free throw Nolan Winter
coming in for Carter Gilmore. Fifty one point three seconds
left in the half, thirty eight to thirty four, Wisconsin
leeds Marquette.
Speaker 2 (49:11):
Back Well with three points in this first half. He's
an eighty.
Speaker 1 (49:14):
Two percent free throw shooter, Badgers eighty five percent as
a team coming invest in the nation. Both free throws
are good for Blackwell. Thirty nine thirty four. Wisconsin got
a forty eight seconds left till halftime.
Speaker 4 (49:25):
Scott's with a one to three to one.
Speaker 1 (49:26):
How about that, ladies and gentlemen, Yes, they have toyed
with it from time to time in practice. Here's Chase Ross,
little driving kick to Marius Owns out there, Ross for
three left corner. No good, but a foul it's on. Oh,
that's two to one, Max Klesban. We almost escaped the
rest of the half without that second foul. But thirty
(49:48):
six point four left till halftime and a three shot
foul coming up here for Chase Wass of Marquette.
Speaker 3 (49:57):
And there's there's no reason for it.
Speaker 1 (50:05):
Lost three out of fourth the line today, making four
out of five as he hits the first thirty nine
thirty five Wisconsin thirty six point four left in the
first half.
Speaker 3 (50:15):
The other reason there's no reason for it is because
we just said Wisconsin's in a what a one three one?
Speaker 2 (50:21):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (50:22):
Do you know how long it probably took the head
coach to feel comfortable wanting to play a one three one.
Speaker 2 (50:27):
Coaches are going yeah, so he does right, I'll never
do it again.
Speaker 4 (50:31):
Bingo bingo.
Speaker 2 (50:34):
Ross hit the second. He has one more coming off
of the three ships. Val yes and Ross made them all.
Speaker 3 (50:41):
You gave up all of that, and then now the
coach is probably we're never We're not. He's walking in lock,
not playing one through one again.
Speaker 1 (50:48):
Thirty nine thirty seven Wisconsin, thirty seconds left in a half.
They come to their feet here in Milwaukee about a
five second and change difference game clock to shot clock.
Game clock at twenty two, Blackwell high on the left,
Ross out on him, shot clock at ten, game clock
at sixteen counting. The dribble is Blackwell. They're trying to
(51:09):
trap them. We've going to the middle of the court
with three to shoot, with two Blackwell throwing a psident
and a shot clock violation. Boll just never got anything going,
and now Mark Kett will get the final possession with
five point six left in the half.
Speaker 3 (51:25):
Badger's up two. Somebody could have told them the ball
has air in it. You don't need to keep dribbling
it to make sure. I know that's what they were
trying to do, just to make sure the bull had
a hair, maybe a cut flat, but the ball has air,
and you didn't need to dribble it so much. That's
when you dribble it that much. If bad things happen.
Speaker 1 (51:41):
They've had what two shot clock violations a little bit here,
So Shaka Smart taking his user to losing time out
five point six seconds left in the half, thirty nine
thirty seven Wisconsin.
Speaker 3 (51:50):
And part of that was Marquette. They went with the
double drag. Wisconsin was gonna come off of that. They
trapped that said, but they waited to try to go
with eight, you know, ten to eight on the clock
because it was you're trying to hold the last possession.
So there's a reason you have that that beats it.
Knowing that you go at eight, you gotta go around
that double team, and you got to come downhill. Wisconsin
(52:12):
didn't go downhill. That's why you get your shot.
Speaker 1 (52:14):
Bull, So Marquette, can you get the final shot here
of the first half? Thirty nine thirty seven Wisconsin with
five point six seconds left till halftime. Cameron Hunter in
there for Wisconsin, Jack Janicki, Carter Gilmour, John Blackwell.
Speaker 2 (52:33):
And Stephen Krow.
Speaker 1 (52:36):
Chase Ross in the backcourt right in front of the
Marquette bench will end bound. Jess Woss will get it
into the hands of guests who Cam Jones against Hunter.
Jones threw the logo to the front court with three
with two three in the air, he's short.
Speaker 2 (52:50):
No good.
Speaker 1 (52:50):
The first half has come to an end as Wisconsin
will take a two point lead into the locker room
at halftime. We thought it would be pretty good. So far,
it is really good. This is what you want, absolutely
too highly ranked teams, two teams that come in with
eight to one records. We're at the half in Milwaukee,
(53:11):
Wisconsin thirty nine Marquette thirty seven. We're back with a
halftime report presented by Coolvers. This is Badger basketball from
lear Field. Eighteen league changes of the first half, nine
other occasions that was tied. Wisconsin leeds Marquette thirty nine
to thirty seven. As we get ready for the second half, Well,
we've talked about some of the keys, Brian, what do
(53:32):
you think are they checking the boxes here so far?
Speaker 3 (53:34):
Yeah, Transition defense has been good. I think ball reversal
has been really good. When you look at what this
team has done so far, nine assists on eleven made
field goals, I'd say that's where the needs to be.
Don't think that's not as the turnovers, however, Marquette, a
team that you know averages almost eleven and a half
steals we have three of them. Yeah, So I mean
(53:55):
even though the turnovers have happened, they haven't been the
live ball turnovers. So right now they're up by two
and they're checking all the boxes that we talked about
at the beginning here.
Speaker 2 (54:03):
Yeah, I mentioned you talk about the fast break points
to a piece exact player in this first half.
Speaker 4 (54:10):
So players, that's what you gotta watch.
Speaker 1 (54:12):
Yeah, Okay, John Tanja two fouls, Max Klesmi Kamari McGee
each with two, Ben Gold, David Joplin, Camp Jones with
two fouls. We'll watch that closely. In the early minutes
of the second half. The original starting five for Great
Guard's team out there with Blackwell, Klesband, Tanjay Krow and Winter,
and likewise for Marquette, Jones, Loss, Joplin, Mitchell in Gold,
(54:36):
Wisconsin will get the first possession of the second half.
The Badgers will move to our left as we are
ready to go second half. We play at five served
for him in Milwaukee thirty nine thirty seven, Wisconsin leading Marquette.
As Nolan Winter throws it in bounds, Blackwell will catch
and off we go. Blackwell outside left right hand tossed
(54:58):
to Nolan Winter against Job and feats Tom Jay versus
Ross right wing into kraw single coverage from Gold.
Speaker 2 (55:04):
Kraw Ry lane Tin the back now.
Speaker 1 (55:06):
Draws the double as he pivots to the baseline, feeds
a cutting Klesband and he gets fouled going to the goal,
which sharp cut Stevie Mitchell call for the foul.
Speaker 2 (55:14):
That'll be his.
Speaker 3 (55:15):
First and good pass by Stephen Crammer. Even though he
hasn't scored seven rebounds, he's really anchored that middle.
Speaker 1 (55:26):
There are no shot attempts for kraw nss Klesman two
of two at the line, eleven first half points. Shoots
too here and he is good with the first. The
largest lead was five for Wisconsin, and that was rather brief.
Marquette's biggest lead is three, So it's just been tight
through outs. As we get started in the second half,
(55:47):
Pleasbant hitting the first free throw and he hits the
second as well. Forty one to thirty seven Wisconsin opening minute,
second half. First possession out for Marquette in the second half,
moving to our right and Jones. It's left hand dribbled
across the top of the key munt of the circle,
feeds Ben Gold a hand off the Choplin took the wood,
now puts it on the deck, trying it back down
(56:08):
on Nolan. Winter drings her back, curls into the lane,
turning pivots, goes up and in the patients from Joplin.
He has eight forty one to thirty nine Wisconsin.
Speaker 3 (56:20):
I'm just thinking that, you know, Wisconsin's gonna be able
to extend that league. Can they get a couple of stops?
And then right there is an answer by marquette.
Speaker 1 (56:28):
John Blackwell out front for the Badgers, throwing the Nolan.
Winter flips the Plesant turns to Blackwell outside left. That's
the inside goes in the crowd giving go Blackwell, catching
a bump with Ross, they play on. Blackwell muscles it
up and in from low on the right.
Speaker 3 (56:41):
So far we've seen a focus on post touches and
then post cutting for Wisconsin to start the second.
Speaker 1 (56:46):
Half forty three to thirty nine Wisconsin, and then the
fifteen one second half. Ross goes into Cold dribbles her
back out. The Ross takes it off the right wing
and the lane kick out. Joplin left corner three in
the air is offering it out no good and Redound
knocked the bounds life touched by Crowell, they say, all Wisconser.
Speaker 2 (57:05):
Quite a minute and a half gone by second half.
Speaker 1 (57:07):
Forty three thirty nine Wisconsin leeds Marquette an offensively.
Speaker 3 (57:11):
Wisconsin really is kind of starting to get what they want.
It's got to be this end on the defensive end.
B who could have stop, string them together and.
Speaker 1 (57:17):
Bounced past to Ben Gold left of the lane, goes
off the Jones looks it back to Gold, should look
at a three left wing girl. Ben Gold his second
three and Marquette back within one forty three forty two
Wisconcert a minute forty one by second half. Prowl outside right,
hands off the Blackwell on the right wing. Blackwell against
(57:39):
Stevie Mitchell with a tight defense. Blackwell with a left
hand rubble into the lane. He pivots, fades, flips and
it's off the rim and rolling hole around the rim
and in for Blackwell. Forty five forty two Wisconset about
two minutes gone, second half.
Speaker 2 (57:53):
Chase Ross against.
Speaker 1 (57:55):
Klusmi, throwing the Gold left side, tings it back out
the loss driving by Low on the left goes up
and in.
Speaker 3 (58:03):
They from that alley picking role. That's where they've struggled.
Speaker 2 (58:06):
With a dangerous pass.
Speaker 1 (58:07):
It's intercepted by Cam Jones, whips it a head to
Chase Ross drops it the Joplin on the right side,
joppling against Winter in the lane lower the left goes up.
No good, Mitchell crashing for the offensive rebound back up,
missed it rebound. Nolan Winter of Wisconsin forty five forty
four of the Badgers two and a half minutes, one
second half black one to the front court. We'll throw
(58:28):
what the Nolan Winter turns to John Tonjay a bump
in an offensive foul on Tonjay, we'll wipe away with
the free arm, and boy, that was a hold your
bread Normally both sides Jones had two, Ton Jay had
two and now Tonjay has three and he will come
out as Cam as Kamari McGee is back in.
Speaker 3 (58:48):
They didn't call the initial contact there, but then John
did wrap. It was so obvious that they I don't
think they wanted to call the foul, but they had
to call it.
Speaker 1 (58:56):
So he sits with three forty five forty four Wisconsin
was seventeen fourteen remaining. Joplin leaves it for Jones out high.
Jones right of the lane turns it back out. The
Joplin stamps off at three left of the circle.
Speaker 4 (59:10):
Looks good man.
Speaker 1 (59:11):
Marquette takes the lead forty seven to forty five, three
minutes going by second half and he throwing to Noel
in the winter. We'll leave it for Klesbit out top
Lesbit between the circles right hand ribble, ride of the lane,
driving left it inside for crawl up and no tip.
Yes from Stephen Prowell for his first points today. Tied
(59:33):
at forty seven and it was close to a basket
interference there, but here's Chase. Ross leaves it for gold
right of the circle, hands off the Joplin long three
on the way back iron No McGhee had it, lost it,
it's Lewis Mitchell grabs it for Marquette.
Speaker 2 (59:47):
The left lane, second chance.
Speaker 1 (59:49):
Marquette Mitchell left of the lane, moving in Blackwell cut
him off just outside the left block.
Speaker 2 (59:54):
Mitchell throwing at Joplin left to the lane.
Speaker 1 (59:57):
Ten on the shot clock, he's out to Cam Jones
shot clock at six. Jones drives by McGee to the rim,
flipped it up and under the left hand with a
blowby from dam Jones. Forty nine to forty seven Marquette
sixteen o eight remaining.
Speaker 2 (01:00:09):
Kamari McGee to the front court fur the Nold in
winter turns to black Roll on the right side. Blackwell
sends to kraw leup to the wheel. One dribble picks
it up.
Speaker 1 (01:00:20):
Marquette contesting everything cross fort McGee, Kamari baseline right driving,
leaning goes up too strong, reabound Chase wass On the
push up the little front court stop to the line,
drop to the Jones blows up the left wing of
the lane up right hand good and Marquette is up four.
Let's see how Greg Guard plays this. Fifty one forty
seven Marquette fifteen thirty five remaining. He'll play on Blackwell
(01:00:44):
outside rights bills the dribble about score Stephen Crowell in
the right wing. Gould defended kraw out the Klesman went
through his hands, runs it down at the big Ford logo.
Shot clock at ten has been high on the left.
Shot clock at seven Husband against Mitchell deep three for Max.
It's off the back of the rim. No good rebound
(01:01:05):
Jones of Marquette. He'll push a front court fans it out.
The Joplin drives off the left wing in Atlanta, whistsa
and a shot is up and the foul is called
before the shot. They'll get McGee on a block as
we'll have the under sixteen media timeout. So Marquette with
a burst now leading by four early in the second half.
(01:01:27):
Minars is a proud sponsor of Wisconsin Athletics. It reminds
everyone to save big money and all your home improvement
needs at Menars, we'll take a break. Fifteen oh five
remaining Marquette fifty one, Wisconsin forty seven.
Speaker 2 (01:01:40):
Back in the moment. This is badger basketball from lear Field.
Speaker 1 (01:01:45):
Marquette done a nine to two run, now leads Wisconsin
fifty one forty seven. Before we move on, let's plaust
ten seconds for station identification, ten for an ID. This
is badger basketball from lear Field. Fifteen oh five remaining
in Milwaukee, Marquette fifty one was conson forty seven. Marquette
getting a scoring burst here. John Tonjay remains on the
(01:02:06):
bench with three fouls. Stevie Mitchell will be inbounding baseline left.
Jack Janicky on the four for Wisconsin along with Carter Gilmore, Blackwell,
Klesbants and Crowell.
Speaker 4 (01:02:17):
I think Stevie Mitchell.
Speaker 3 (01:02:18):
Mrkut's brought a lot of energy, a couple of loose
balls that he's taken away from Wisconsin players. That's where
Wisconsin needs. MAT's had energy.
Speaker 1 (01:02:27):
In bounce past. Mitchell has the ball now against Jack Janicky.
Mitchell going to work on spin, moving the lane up right,
hand back round and throw yeah, don cue. I mean
Mitchell does so many things well. He had twenty one
in there, win against per two recently and plays some
nasty defense. Now the longest lead either side today at
six points, Marquette has the advantage of fifty three forty seven.
Speaker 2 (01:02:51):
Gilmore up top. They want to go high low into
krow Low on.
Speaker 1 (01:02:54):
The left, goes up, missed it inside rebound Mitchell or Marquette.
Five and a half minutes cons second half, six points
lead Marquette, Jones out front off the gold screen. Jones
driving runs it up off the glass too strong, No
good Gilmore. The rebound for Wisconsin out let the blackwell
to the front court is John and he just lost
it off his leg. Live ball turnover. Here comes Joplin
(01:03:14):
with Gilmore back. Joplin in the pain throws it up.
Speaker 2 (01:03:17):
No good.
Speaker 1 (01:03:17):
Gilmore helping alter that that he gets the rebound for Wisconsin.
Speaker 3 (01:03:22):
That was a great job by Kling to get back.
It's exactly what needed to happen.
Speaker 1 (01:03:26):
Will Moore throwing a Blackwell outside left. There's the Badger's
dodge one there. Ralf feeds Gilmore at the top. A
pass for Klesbant. Max is opened three away. He's good
from left to the circle. The four to three of
the day from Max Klesban fifty three to fifty Marquette
thirteen forty five remaining Jones for Marquette left wing back
(01:03:49):
Well defended.
Speaker 3 (01:03:51):
There's it up to gold.
Speaker 1 (01:03:52):
A pass for Mitchell against Jack Janicki, right hand toss
for Jones. That's a screen for Mitchell, gets it now
it's Janicky on the switch. Jones sizes them up. Lisa
for Mitchell drives by Blackwell to the goal. Layup is good.
They're getting some blowbys here. A straight line drive, yes, sir,
you can't guard that. Fifty five fifty Marquette. Now Blackwell
(01:04:12):
stops right lane line and threw it away. Live ball turnover,
another steal for Marquette. Chase Ross to the line, down
the lane to the rim and the layuper's good. That's
what Marquette does, and now Wisconsin will be using a timeout.
The lead is seven for the Golden Eagles. We're among
the best in the country defensively, where Marquette showing why,
(01:04:34):
and quite honestly, the Badgers are helping them a bit
along the way. This will be a full time out
Badger fans. Today's game brought to you by the official
products of Wisconsin Athletics, Grow Pub, Latamata Pizza, Old Dutch
Chips and Pepsi. Thirteen oh seven remaining. Marquette fifty seven,
Wisconsin fifty. This is Badger basketball from lear Field horspower

your courage. Their standard and bill fourte up Ford Trucks,
an Adventure Ready Ford SUVs. Visitor Wisconsin Ford Store Today.
Wisconsin turnover prone here in these early minutes of the
second half. Marquette now leading fifty seven to fifty with
thirteen oh seven remaining, and.
Speaker 3 (01:05:14):
They're just not first force turnovers like that. You can
have aggressive turnovers, but right now Wiscon's with twelve turnovers
compared to Marquette's four, and it's not like Marquette is
necessarily forcing Wisconsin into those turnovers what it.
Speaker 1 (01:05:27):
Did with three steals. But they say going in the
break because he just mentioned the Badgers are helping him.
Wisconsin gets you to cross against the little Marquette full
court pressure. Now Max Klesman up top, goes to the
right side, drawing, kicks left corner. Jennicki slips it inside.
Gilmore catches low on the left, pushed it up, knocked away.
Winter is there, throws it up and in it counts
(01:05:48):
in a foul.
Speaker 3 (01:05:49):
It worked out, Yeah, it worked out, but it's a
big budget because Marquette's sitting there up seven, and if
you don't get a response, then now they got a
chance to go up double digits to ten. That was
a really good answer, and it doesn't have to be
pretty always. He's got to get the results.
Speaker 2 (01:06:05):
They get.
Speaker 1 (01:06:05):
Par Ham with a foul that is his second. The
free throw from Winter is good. A huge three point
play there for Wisconsin. Fifty seven to fifty three. Marquette
with twelve minutes and forty seconds remaining, Ross outside left
at the Marius Owens's at the Parham at the free
(01:06:25):
throw line, get it back out the chase ross loss
driving ruins it out two Owens off the left wing,
goes up, knocked away, lost it out of bounds in
the class touched by Wisconsin with nine on the shot clock.
Speaker 3 (01:06:39):
Scott's a little late on their exchange of that ball
screen handoff what you're running, so make sure they communicate
that better.
Speaker 1 (01:06:49):
Cam Jones baseline right will throw it in in a
Parham he is with Winter. Par Ham floats it back
out the Jones, but you're trying to get into him.
Shot clock at for a step back three white corner
camp Jock. It's good and one, a four point play
opportunity for Cam Jones, a lead back to seven for Marquette.
Speaker 2 (01:07:09):
Nolan wins.
Speaker 3 (01:07:10):
He the foul and that's where Nolan Winter is coming
out to contest. It's a tough shot shot clock lake situation.
You're trying to contest, but you can't foul a jump shooter.
If he makes it, he makes it. At that situation,
it's a step back. Cam Jones just would have made
a great play. Not now, not only did you foul him,
but he made it. Now it's a chance for a
(01:07:31):
four point play. It's a second time and.
Speaker 2 (01:07:33):
He pays it off.
Speaker 1 (01:07:34):
Jones with twenty one as he makes the free throw
one two to two three quarter press on for Marquette
sixty one fifty three. The Golden Eagles twelve ten to play,
Andrews break it. Kamarian McGee will set the floor, throwing
to Gilmore between the arts, gives to Klesban right hand
toss for Nolan Winter Parham is on him ws Marquette
I thought to tighten up the screws defensively. Jack Janicki
(01:07:56):
on the right wing whips the past to quarter Gilmore.
Gilmore tough past Wana McGee. Another turnover stolen away by
Jones of Marquette. Night side to the front court John
Tom j ob checking in. Next whistle for Wisconsin. Yes
it is time. Yes, here's Jones against Janicky Jones moving
in in the lane.
Speaker 2 (01:08:17):
Pittot's up left hand.
Speaker 1 (01:08:18):
Not this time, rebound tap to Jack Jenicky eleven thirty
remaining sixty one to fifty three. Marquette. J Nicki to
the front court, tosses it to Nolan wins her high
on the rights, ents her hand off to McGee. Vari
against Owens. McGee driving in the lane and got tied up.
It was spiked away by Chase Wasss, but they get
a foul as well on Ross. That'll be his second
(01:08:42):

Speaker 1 (01:09:01):
This is Badger basketball from lear Field. Wisconsin Basketball, brought

eighteen seconds remaining Marquette sixty one, Wisconsin fifty three for
getting a jump on the Badgers here in the second half,
(01:09:24):
outscoring Wisconsin twenty four to fourteen.
Speaker 3 (01:09:27):
They're outscoring Wisconsin twelve points in the paints.
Speaker 4 (01:09:31):
But a lot of this has been.
Speaker 3 (01:09:32):
Wisconsin's heirs themselves. I mean a couple of the turnovers
that they've had, just throwing them away, throwing the ball
away defensively, straight line drives, with a lot of this
action that Marquette is running. You know that's what they want.
You can't get your help side defense over quick enough
when you're just getting blown by offensive.
Speaker 1 (01:09:53):
Wisconsin with thirteen turnovers in this game, Marquette with the
edge and points off turnovers eleven to five. John Tanjay
back out there for Wisconsin with winter Les Mets McGee
and Blackwell, Ton j with the three fouls, Kamari McGee
will be stepping into the free.
Speaker 2 (01:10:12):
Throw line or Wisconsin.
Speaker 4 (01:10:14):
Yeah, And that's what I was.
Speaker 3 (01:10:14):
Wondering when when Greg is gonna put john Tonjay back
in the game, because it was And that's why that
fouled by by Nolan against Cam Jones was so tough
because it's a four point play. If you can keep
that close enough, maybe you can buy a.
Speaker 4 (01:10:29):
Little bit more time.
Speaker 3 (01:10:30):
But it was John Tanjay time now for sure.
Speaker 1 (01:10:33):
First free throw for McGee is good. Kamari with six points.
He had eight points four rebounds on Tuesday against Michigan,
averaging six point seven a game, coming in early three rebounds.
Senior out of her scene. Second free throw is good
sixty one fifty five. Marquette with a clock running eleven
(01:10:54):
minutes and fifteen seconds to play, Damn Jones will walk
her through the centers circle, works off to the left.
Speaker 2 (01:11:02):
Chase by Blackwell stops left of the lane.
Speaker 1 (01:11:04):
Trey Norman, back in the lineup, thurls off the left
wing of the paint, shooting right hand, rolling in over Tonjay.
Speaker 3 (01:11:09):
That's example of what we're talking about is Trent line drive.
Even though that comes from a deep corner, it's just
it's a it's a banana drive right and there's no resistance.
Speaker 1 (01:11:17):
Sixty three fifty five Marquette with ten to fifty remaining,
john Tonjay against Chase was driving, lost his balance, lost
the ball and goes out of bounds. Turn over number
fourteen for a Wisconsin Andrew's averaging nine point three a game,
coming in best in the Big ten, among the best nationally.
It's a game where you kind of have to figure
(01:11:39):
you're gonna cough it up more. But again, just a
lot of unforced stuff here with those coffers.
Speaker 3 (01:11:44):
Should be twelve, absolutely, that's I mean, that's where the
numbers shit.
Speaker 2 (01:11:47):
From nine to twelve for that game.
Speaker 3 (01:11:49):
Now you have fourteen already with ten left to play, it's.
Speaker 1 (01:11:52):
Jones right foul line extended moving in on black Well
kick out. Trey Norman puts it on the deck, driving
right of the lane. A couple of pumps cut off
by Tom j Now Jones a long three right side
two long no good long rebound the chase. Wasss I
have a chance for Marquette Jones on the left side.
Jones pounding the dribble. Move it in on Blackwell. Jones
in the lane up left hand good. Well, this guy's pretty.
(01:12:17):
There is just no denying that ten point lead.
Speaker 2 (01:12:19):
Marquette.
Speaker 1 (01:12:21):
Ten minutes to play, sixty five to fifty five. The
Golden Eagles ton Jay outside left throwing, the Klesman turns
to Winter, rotates to McGee on the right side. McGhee
finds Winter baseline rival. The shot FA shot clock is
at twelve. McGhee against gold small versus a big drives,
kicks Winter for three right corner back rim no good,
(01:12:41):
train Norman the rebound for Marquette, and here comes Ross
throwing to David Joplin.
Speaker 2 (01:12:46):
He'll stop on the left wing.
Speaker 1 (01:12:48):
He's it for Cam Jones, who has twenty three points
here today, but he has the basketball now pass deflect.
Speaker 2 (01:12:53):
He gets there to Joplin in the lane left lane
line jump good. Twelve point lead.
Speaker 3 (01:12:57):
Marquette taking time right now off Defensively, you need to
make sure you run something and put some pressure at
the rim. At least break the paint. Then you can
get your three. But you can't settle.
Speaker 1 (01:13:06):
Sixty seven fifty five Marquette nine to fourteen remaining winter
throwing the Klesban acts out front, whips it the Blackwell
shakes off the right wing in the lane, mowing the
left to the rim lay up.
Speaker 2 (01:13:18):
No, yep, they'll get Blackwell man.
Speaker 1 (01:13:26):
That'll be his first cowl in for winter as the
Badgers are in danger of having those wheels fall completely off.
Speaker 3 (01:13:35):
And I mean there's been a lot of contact both ways.
I get it. This is where John both John's Tanja
and Blackwell, they do have a tendency yeah, to grab there,
but I mean that's fifteen turnovers already for Wisconsin and
they've got sixteen eight shots.
Speaker 1 (01:13:52):
Blackwell outs Jennicki in Jones to the front, Core gets
a screen from Mitchell right of the lane, runs it
out left corner for Ben Gold, flips to Mitchell Mitchell,
Bob's off the Gold screen, driving by Jeniki low on
the left, throws it up good where it counts and
a foul and fourteen four marquets.
Speaker 3 (01:14:15):
I said that his time offensively, he need to get
a possession and then you need to start putting some
stuff together.
Speaker 4 (01:14:21):
That's not the case.
Speaker 3 (01:14:23):
And I thought Stevie Mitchell changed his game with the
eighteen minute mark.
Speaker 4 (01:14:27):
He came in.
Speaker 3 (01:14:27):
He put his nose in there, started taking a couple
of offensive rebounds away from you know, fifty to fifty balls
that guy's had in their hands. Stevie Mitchell grabbed those,
brought some energy to Marquette, and then he's just continued
to drive and attack and do some things really well.
God it's not talking about nearly enough for Marquette, But
I don't know he's changed his game.
Speaker 1 (01:14:47):
I agree he's been really good for a while for
this program. And he hits the free throw seventy to
fifty five Marquette one, two to two, three quarter presses
on Andrews breaking eight minutes and forty seven is to
play Klesbant out to crowd, back to Max Long, three
straight a leg good again. Five threes for Max Klesband.
(01:15:07):
He has nineteen points this afternoon, seventy to fifty eight
Marquette with eight and a half. When it's remaining, Trey
Norman Lea's it for Ben Gold to back at your
three right side off the rim, no whistling.
Speaker 4 (01:15:18):
Sh the other way spots out yep, I'll.
Speaker 1 (01:15:20):
Call it here against Marquette's Chase wass that'll be his
third now quarter Gilmour will come in for Wisconsin, replacing McGee.
So you got Gilmore, Blackwell, Tan Jay, Klesman and Krawl
on the.
Speaker 3 (01:15:34):
Floor and this still is is go time? Me? Oh yeah,
as bad as you've played the second half, you're stealing
down twelve with eight to go. You just have to
have some good execution on the offensive end.
Speaker 1 (01:15:45):
Is Max Klesband seeking at another three in and out?
No good rebound, Gilmore one pump back up and in
Gilmore with a putback seventy to sixty Marquette with eight
oh five remaining.
Speaker 4 (01:15:57):
Can you get enough stops? Is the question?
Speaker 1 (01:15:59):
Chase woss out side rights at old screen to the
top of the circle. These are for Stevie Mitchell, Cam
Jones getting arrest right now. Mitchell on the left wing.
Tanja defending Mitchell continues to put it on the deck
midpost left, runs it out to Trey Norman ten on
the shot clock. Norman against Blackwell a pass for Gold
left of the cercle Cold driving on Old goes behind
(01:16:21):
the back inside lay up good Trey Norman beautiful delivery
and the twelve point lead.
Speaker 2 (01:16:27):
Now for Marquette.
Speaker 1 (01:16:29):
Seventy two or sixty with seven point thirty remaining, man
a whistle, Blackwell and Mitchell will get tied up. The
crowd called on Stevie Mitchell as we have the under
eight media time out. The Wisconsin deployment of transportation reminds
you to always drive sobers zero in Wisconsin. Together we
can save lives. Learn more is zero in Wisconsin. Dot
(01:16:51):
com seven nine remaining Marquette seventy two, Wisconsin sixty. This
is Badger basketball from Learfield Scots Basketball, brought to you
at fired by Hochun Gaming, Wisconsin. Dell's the best place
for growing up entertainments, games and fun times. Your odds
are better here. Marquette leading Wisconsin seventy two to sixty
(01:17:13):
before this sellout crowd and five serve forums.
Speaker 2 (01:17:16):
Seven and a half minutes remaining here in Milwaukee.
Speaker 3 (01:17:20):
And it's got to start on the defensive end. We
get talk offensively all we want and they've got sixty
on the board. I still think that you can try
to break the paint a little bit more. They've had
some offensive files which I think is legs and then
being a little tended as far as run to get
to the paint that beats in with down by twelve,
you gotta get stops.
Speaker 1 (01:17:40):
And bowles pass right sideline, Tanja gets into Blackwell now
Gilmore hand off to Klesman, Max High on the right
against Stevie Mitchells brings it out near the logo mini
court logo, throwing the Kraal posting as Tanja gets the pass.
Double team Low on the right bustled it up and
in first points of the second half for Tanja. He
(01:18:00):
has fourteen here today, ten point lead. Marquette seven O
five remaining seventy two to sixty two to the Golden Eagles.
Chase ross right side, driving to kick the back out
the gold wide open three right side good again.
Speaker 3 (01:18:15):
And defensively it just wasn't good enough. There's a lack
of communication there. You get three guys. There's a drive
that helped pick Steve has to help a little bit,
and then all of a sudden, Gold slips out for
his three.
Speaker 1 (01:18:24):
Seventy five sixty two Marquette six forty two remaining Tanjay
with a bounce for Krowd baseline right Jopplin is on
Stevie starts to backfeas Gilmore pass fake now dribbles into
the lane, bounces it back out to Tanjay. He's with
Cam Jones a step back three from Tanjay. Just clip
the rim. No good rebound Blackwell and he spiked it
off of ross and out of bounds. Blackwell very nearly
(01:18:48):
out of bounds himself of on the baseline underneath the hoop,
but he was heads up and was able to.
Speaker 2 (01:18:54):
Bounce it off of the six.
Speaker 3 (01:18:55):
Flock's wrong here.
Speaker 2 (01:18:57):
It did hit the rim.
Speaker 1 (01:18:58):
Shot clock is showing four that Tanja a three clip
the front rim.
Speaker 2 (01:19:02):
So they'll get that straightened out. We have six. We're
gonna review this.
Speaker 4 (01:19:05):
It should be a review. I mean, guys, it hit
the rimp. Well, they just missed it.
Speaker 1 (01:19:09):
Checking the game maybe the game clock here too, six
twenty six remaining seventy five sixty two Marquette.
Speaker 3 (01:19:18):
That being said, offensively, with what they're running and how
they're getting into it, this is you know, John Blackwell
gets another offensive rebound, very similar to the Michigan game.
Speaker 4 (01:19:26):
However, the lead wasn't you know, as big in this
Michigan game.
Speaker 3 (01:19:30):
Can they get a couple of easy Can they put
together a couple of stops is the biggest question right
now that I mean that that's where it becomes, Yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:19:38):
Mark Quette saying during the commercial break when they were
fifteen to twenty five in the second half, but I
didn't know they missed keen shots. It just feels like
everything is and it's a lot of easy money buckets
here too, So I.
Speaker 3 (01:19:50):
Mean they've given it. I hate that Scott's has given
up thirty eight points this name, Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:19:58):
And the pain points just keep plistering.
Speaker 1 (01:20:03):
So look, get nineteen on the shot clock after they
get that squared away, six twenty six on the game clock.
Seventy five sixty two, Marquette leading Wisconsin Badgers led at
the half thirty nine to thirty sevens Pault has been
blitzed here in the second half. Baseline led Blackwell in
bounds to Tanje throwing the crowd back to Tanjay. Turn
(01:20:25):
of the Klesban right quarter three is good for Max Klesman,
who continues to be a nightmare for Marquette. Seventy five
to sixty five. Marquette does lead with six twelve to play.
Jans Klesbant Jones now in the lane up with the
left hand and Jones is a nightmare for Wisconsin again
easy money, no help instime. Seventy seven to sixty five.
(01:20:47):
Marquette has chased Ross at the other end, guilty of
a foul on Blackwell High on the right.
Speaker 2 (01:20:54):
It's four on Ross.
Speaker 1 (01:20:56):
Plusman with twenty two points today, six of ten from
the three point line. Wass will come out. Trey Norman
is back in. John j will be inbound England right
into quarter Gilmore, you're more a hand off the klesband Max,
(01:21:18):
and then he's gonna look for it.
Speaker 2 (01:21:21):
Stops goes inside Blackwell Low on the left, lay up
good Blackwell from Klesman.
Speaker 3 (01:21:26):
And you're sitting out at ten point game. But just
you gotta find a way to string some stops together.
Speaker 1 (01:21:31):
Five point forty remaining, seventy seven sixty seven. Marquette Jones
on the right side.
Speaker 2 (01:21:39):
We's been defending.
Speaker 1 (01:21:40):
Jones has twenty five today off the right wing, feeds
David Joplin. He'll snap off of three and that's in
and out. Halfway down it popped out Blackwell the rebound
guys and it comes down to David Joplin. Head down
to Mitchell left side sizes up at three takes, it
missed it the rebound. Jones the put back for Mark
Crown twelve point lead Marquette with five h five remaining,
(01:22:05):
Here's Blackwell in the lane against Norman.
Speaker 2 (01:22:07):
Flipped it up and in from low on the left.
Speaker 1 (01:22:09):
Blackwell able to penetrate seventy nine sixty nine. Marquette four
point fifty three to play. Mitchell on the left side
around a Gold screen. Hooks at the Gold He'll try
a three off the bracket.
Speaker 2 (01:22:22):
No good.
Speaker 1 (01:22:22):
Tanjay tapped at the Blackwell. Here comes John busting up
the floor in a reach in fallance Stevie Mitchell.
Speaker 2 (01:22:29):
That'll be his third.
Speaker 1 (01:22:33):
And I believe that we'll have Wisconsin into the bonus
and will Tumber seven.
Speaker 2 (01:22:40):
Back.
Speaker 1 (01:22:40):
A couple of minutes ago, Ben Gold not necessarily known
as an interior force. John Tanjay was going for another
big dunk, kind of like he had against Michigan, and
Gold just wasn't having it over a rejection and that
had the crowd ready to blow the roof off the place.
Speaker 2 (01:22:59):
Blackwell in one and that rattles out. No good. Gold
runs down the rebound in the right corner.
Speaker 3 (01:23:06):
It still feels that Wisconsin has a run in it out.
Just now you look at kind of what they're doing.
You see Wisconsin defensively in a one to three to one.
Speaker 1 (01:23:15):
Hip saw briefly in the first half. Here's Gold left corner.
McGee flies by seventy nine to sixty nine. Marquette, Joplin
in the lane, turns it back out the Jones open
three left of the circle. Good again, Pam Jones, have
yourself another day. Eighty two sixty nine. Marquette with four
to ten remaining thirty points this afternoon. For Jones, Blackwell
(01:23:39):
outside right, feeds kraw at the top ral angles left,
goes into Tanjay. Gold cut him off with the left block.
Now Tanjay curls back into the pace, slits two defenders up.
No good Gold the rebound for Marquette outlet Joplin and
he is fouled by.
Speaker 2 (01:23:55):
Kamari McGhee trying to take it away. That's four and McGee.
Speaker 1 (01:23:59):
We're at the under four media time out with Marquette
in command. Three minutes and forty nine seconds to play.
Marquette's eighty two Wisconsin sixty nine back in the moment.
This is Badger basketball from lear Field time to big
Today's old dominion Best of the Game. Brought to you
by Old Dominion Freightline. Old Dominion Freightline more hard to
(01:24:20):
be the best of the game. It is proud to
be the official freight carrier of Wisconsin Athletics. Well positive
for Wisconsin, Max Klesban has shot himself out of his slump.
He's six of ten from three at team high twenty
two points. Meanwhile, Marquette with four players in double figures,
led by their superstar Cam Jones. He has thirty here
(01:24:41):
this afternoon. Marquette leads Wisconsin eighty two to sixty nine
with three minutes and forty nine seconds to play.
Speaker 3 (01:24:48):
And you talk about you know, some positive Max Klusman,
like you said, six and ten from three. That was good.
Getting Max going is a big thing. It's gonna be
really important. Defensively, Well, that's well, that's a different story.
Speaker 2 (01:25:00):
Yeah, they just haven't been good at all.
Speaker 3 (01:25:01):
Well, you know, but offensively they've been able to keep
getting some good stuff. They've just needed to stack some
of these stops together. They just haven't got enough of them.
Speaker 1 (01:25:11):
Yeah, when Wisconsin shoots forty eight percent, which is what
it's shooting today, and nine of twenty three for three
that's a recipe for wins the majority of the time.
The problem is Marquette today in the second half is
better than fifty nine percent for the field and better
than fifty two percent for the game.
Speaker 3 (01:25:31):
And it hasn't hasn't been difficult, right, Yeah, Like that's
the thing I think that's frustrating is, Hey, if a guy,
if a team gets hot and they make difficult shot
after difficult shot, and you take one on the chin.
Speaker 2 (01:25:45):
It happens.
Speaker 3 (01:25:46):
It happens.
Speaker 4 (01:25:47):
Yeah, right, that's basketball. There's games that happen.
Speaker 3 (01:25:50):
But there hasn't been any resistant at the rim. I mean,
they look at points of the paint. They've got thirty
almost forty points there.
Speaker 1 (01:25:59):
Twenty six. So here's Stevie Mitchell's we get back to action.
Jones on the right side against McGhee, high screen goal.
Jones will use it, moves to the top, feeds Joplin,
Joplin right of the lane, whips it back out front
for Jones. Ten of the shack licke Cam Jones against
mass clos with another three for Cam Jones.
Speaker 2 (01:26:18):
No good.
Speaker 1 (01:26:19):
The rebound is Stephen Krowe out let the Tanja three
twenty to play eighty two sixty nine Marquette, all high
on the left. He'll throw at the Blackwell the baseline
left against Trey Norman moving in low on the left,
top shotting traffic.
Speaker 2 (01:26:31):
Good.
Speaker 1 (01:26:32):
Two more for Blackwell. Eighty two seventy one Marquette with
three to zero five to play, still time. It sounded
like a broken record here, But con see if Wisconsan
could get there's some stops going and give a little
momentum back their way. Jones left of the circle, bounces
the Joplin top of the key, takes a look, let's
apply for three and that side and out no good.
(01:26:53):
McGee went to the floor, then went up and cutt
Mitchell to the floor. Stevie Mitchell threw it up and
in off the glass, and then he took a very
hard landing.
Speaker 2 (01:27:03):
Whoa, he pops back up.
Speaker 3 (01:27:10):
I mean, if you talk about MVP of the game,
it's Stevie Mitchell. I mean that that is again another
opportunity that he gets.
Speaker 1 (01:27:20):
Eighty four to seventy one Marquette. Camari McGee has fouled out.
He finishes with seven points, two minutes and forty seven
seconds remaining.
Speaker 3 (01:27:33):
It's I'm glad you said if they get a couple
of stops in Rowe because I did feel like I
would starting to become a broken record for.
Speaker 4 (01:27:43):
At least you can say at that time.
Speaker 2 (01:27:44):
So I think we'll just throw the record away.
Speaker 5 (01:27:47):
Yeah, on this day, I think that's probably a good decision.
Speaker 1 (01:27:53):
Twelve points here today for Stevie Mitchell, seventy five percent
free throw shooter, one of one here today. The free
throw is off the back of the rim. No good
exave your Amos back in the lineup gets the rebound.
(01:28:14):
Thirteen point lead Marquette. Two minutes and forty seconds remaining
for the back court resistance, Badgers getting across Blackwell throwing
to Amos up between the arcs Now it's kraw off
the right elbow, ending off the klusmis GEPs. Bat can't
get loose, feeds Blackwell, he is loose, tries to three
nails it from the right wing. And the time I'll
take it by Wisconsin as the Badgers are within ten, Well,
(01:28:36):
probably take a look at this Wisconsant press with two
minutes and twenty seven seconds to play, eighty four to
seventy four, Marquette as we'll keep it here.
Speaker 4 (01:28:45):
And I'm glad we threw that record away.
Speaker 3 (01:28:47):
So that being said, when you look at defensively what
they've got to do here, you're gonna see some sort
of press, some sort of ability to try to speed
up Marquette a little bit. See if you can force
a couple of turns, and I think that's the biggest thing.
Can you can you find ways to speed up a
Marquette's team.
Speaker 1 (01:29:05):
Marquette has turned it over just five times today fifteen
for Wisconsin, sixteen to seven points off turnovers in favor
of Shakas Smarts Golden Eagles. Badgers are fifty to fifty
(01:29:26):
from the field today and are down by ten.
Speaker 4 (01:29:29):
It's his a lot.
Speaker 1 (01:29:32):
It does, yeah, just in general. Chase Woss will end
bound eighty four to seventy four. Marquette two minutes twenty
seven seconds to play. No One on Ross shuffles to
his right, clips it into Mitchell Mitchell against Tonjay is
the Badgers show pressure and now released as Mitchell will
bring it up bothered a bit by Tonjay because Mitchell
(01:29:53):
gets it across half court. It's Onny on the shot block.
Two fifteen of the game clock, Ross high and the
right as Max klosbt loose of the free throw line,
bounces it out to Jones, loops to ross, catching light
lane line. He goes, turns up left hand, rolling out,
no good rebound. Kraw just was able to save it,
and here it comes Blackwell with two minutes to play
(01:30:14):
with a bucket here who knows Blackwell, driving baseline right,
runs it out the crow open three left side off
the rim, no good rebound, swatting into the hands of
Ben Gold. With a minute forty eight remaining eighty four
to seventy four Marquette and now Marquette will look to
bleed the clock.
Speaker 2 (01:30:30):
As Cam Jones will hold it left of the center circle.
Speaker 1 (01:30:35):
And there a foul called on Blackwell as both teams
in the one and one, Blackwell picking up his second foul.
Speaker 2 (01:30:45):
Jones three of three at the foul line.
Speaker 1 (01:30:46):
Today he came in sixty eight percent on limited attempts.
He has thirty points, six assists, no turnovers, three steals.
It's time in America. Figure out that Cam Jones really good.
He misses the front end of the one and one,
(01:31:08):
Tanjay clears. Here comes Blackwell. Blackwell out between the Yorks
would have been in a half remaining Klesband could test
a three right side halfway down, popped out, no good rebound,
fought four knock have ounds, last touch by Kraal in
the right corner a minute twenty three remaining. Marquette up
by ten. It's not like the road gets easy for Wisconsin.
(01:31:33):
The next two games also away from Madison Tuesday at Illinois,
next Saturday in Indianapolis against Butler Mitchell across half court,
got by Tanja It takes it off the left wing
and circles it back out high shot clock twenty game clock,
a minute thirteen eighty four, seventy four Marquette leading Wisconsin.
Speaker 2 (01:31:50):
Jones right hand dribbley is filed by Blackwell.
Speaker 1 (01:31:52):
Jones back to the free throw line, third foul on Blackwell.
Seventeen points today, by the way, for John Blackwell.
Speaker 3 (01:32:05):
This is where Wiscon's You're just trying to extend the game.
See if you can come him his free throw. See
if you can make a shot. Yes, and you get
to seven, you never know what happens.
Speaker 1 (01:32:14):
Winter in for krow Stevie with just two points today,
but he does have ten rebounds. Cam Jones a moment
ago missed the front end of a one and one.
Another one coming up here in this time, he's.
Speaker 4 (01:32:24):
Good on it.
Speaker 2 (01:32:26):
Thirty one for him today.
Speaker 1 (01:32:27):
One more free throw coming eighty five seventy four Marquette
with sixty seven seconds remaining, second free throw with a
senior at of Memphis, Tennessee.
Speaker 2 (01:32:38):
The free throw is good. Eighty six seventy.
Speaker 1 (01:32:41):
Four Marquette with one oh five to play, Blackwell throwing
to Tanjay John driving to the rim and threw it away.
Why don't they kick at the klubsman right into the
hands at Cam Jones. Now that's how this second half
has gone for the Wisconsin Badgers. Now the fifty seconds remaining,
they're on their feet at five served for him as
Jones or again bleed the clock here dribbling at the
(01:33:05):
mid cord logo shot clock is a ten. Now Jones
driving kicks it out Mitchell wide open three right corner
off the rim, No tip, No, and it hit the
top of the glass and they get a foul called.
Speaker 2 (01:33:18):
Here as well.
Speaker 1 (01:33:19):
I think it's gonna be Xavier Amus that'll be his
first with thirty four point six seconds for maining.
Speaker 3 (01:33:26):
Both these teams are gonna have great seasons. You knew
coming into this this was gonna be a good game.
Marquette they came out the second half and they brought
a little bit more energy. I thought Stevie Mitchell, we
talked a lot about it, but I thought Stevie Mitchell
brought that energy. They played off it. They had that
big extended run there that really gave them that nine
(01:33:47):
to two run in a game that had so many
lead changes in the first half. That nine to two
run is where kind of Marquette built that buffer, and
then Wisconsin couldn't get enough stops.
Speaker 1 (01:33:57):
Eighteen lead changes in the first half. Cam Jones'll take
the rest of the day off. Thirty two points for
Jones today, showing up to a national TV audience why
he is one of the best players in all of
college basketball. Second free throw coming up for Chase rass As.
The rim of the free throw is good. Eighty eight
(01:34:18):
to seventy four Marquette with thirty three seconds remaining, Tan
Jay by second half for him backing right the lane
up over Damarius Owens bank At missed it close. With
the rebound, Lowell the Wright pushed it up, no good.
Ben gold the rebound for Marquette. Now the Golden Eagles
in position of burn off the remaining time. We're nowt
as sixteen seconds to play, Shaka Smart says, take it
(01:34:40):
easy and as for the first time, Shaka Smart will
defeat Wisconsin in a brilliant second half. The reason why
today is Marquette will win by fourteen points. It's over
at five served for him in Milwaukee. This was a
(01:35:01):
tremendous effort from Marquette's in the second half. The Badgers
with a lot of unforced mistakes, maybe feeling rushed and
really having troubles defensively as Marquette went to work in
the second half, Badgers led by two at the break.
Marquette walks off the floor a fourteen point winner. Final
score this afternoon Marquette's eighty eight Wisconsin seventy four. We're
(01:35:25):
back with the Wisconsin forty dealers post game show in
a couple of minutes. This is Badger basketball from lear Field,
but for time of that all the makings of a classic.
Wisconsin led Marquette at halftime thirty nine thirty seven. The
first half saw eighteen lead changes, but Marquette took control
in the second half of play and pulled away to
a fourteen point win over the Badgers eighty eight to
(01:35:47):
seventy four. Cam Jones leading the way with thirty two points.
He had six assists, four steals and no turnovers. Thirteen
points for David Joplin, Chase Ross and Stevie Mitchell each
with two twelve. Ross was eight of nine at the
free throw line. He also had eight rebounds. Ben Gold
ended up with nine points, five rebounds and four assists.
(01:36:08):
N Varius Owens had four, Trey Norman with four, Caden
Hamilton ended up with two for Marquette this afternoon, the
Badgers were led by Max Klesman twenty two points, six
of eleven from the three point line as he has
shaken his shooting slump. John Blackwell with seventeen points today,
(01:36:29):
John Toanjay with fourteen, but twelve of those came in
the first half. Nolan Winter with seven, Steven Krow with two,
and off the bench Kamari McGee with seven, Caughter Gilmour
with five points and six rebounds and five assists in
this game for Gilmour out of Heartland, Wisconsin, Marquette wins
(01:36:50):
it here today eighty eight to seventy four. This is
the Badger's postgame Show, brought to you by your local
Wisconsin Ford Dealers. More to come here in a couple
of minutes. This is Badger Bade Ball from lear Field Scool,
my Wisconsin local Wisconsin forty Dealers. Postgame show continues as
Marquette on the strength of a big second half, defeating
(01:37:11):
Wisconsin here today eighty eight to seventy four, out scoring
the Badgers fifty one thirty five in the second half
of play. Brian Butch outside the Wisconsin locker room. He'll
visit with head coach Great Guard as as soon as
the coaches finished with his players in staff the breakdown
here today. But he talked about it a lot. You
know during the course of the game. Marquette really good
(01:37:32):
in the second half and Wisconsin really struggling on the
defensive end.
Speaker 4 (01:37:36):
Yeah, you look at it. Points in the pain.
Speaker 3 (01:37:38):
You know, Marquette had forty four to Wisconsin's twenty eight,
but thirty of those came in the second half.
Speaker 4 (01:37:43):
Points off turnovers.
Speaker 3 (01:37:44):
They had eighteen Marquette versus seven, and then you know,
Wisconsin was sixteen turnovers, and we talked about that number.
It's around nine on the season. Would have been okay
with about twelve knowing what Marquette wants to do, but
sixteen is going to be way too high, and then
I think that that's where it starts. But the defensively
in the second half, it just wasn't good enough. Marquetchat
fifty four percent in the second half.
Speaker 2 (01:38:06):
You and I talked early in the season.
Speaker 1 (01:38:08):
We were just kind of, you know, pinpointing certain games,
and this was always one that you pinpoint. And we
came to Cam Jones and you know, Tyler Kolikoswigadaro so
important for the team that won the Big East couple
of years ago, went to the Sweet sixteen last year.
But everybody around here knew how good that Cam Jones.
Speaker 2 (01:38:26):
Is and has been.
Speaker 1 (01:38:28):
And now I think the rest of the country is
like figuring it out if they haven't already. The triple
doub he had against Purdue, a thirty two point game today.
Speaker 2 (01:38:38):
You know, some of this was easy money, I get it.
Speaker 1 (01:38:41):
But this guy just seems like he has the entire,
the entire package. His ability to drive it to the cup,
he can shoot it, distribute, he seems like someone who
checks every imaginable box.
Speaker 3 (01:38:51):
Well, he's an all American, I mean, but this afternoon
there were guys that were playing like all Americans, and
John Tanja was another one. So you had two guys
that were coming in playing really good basketball. Cam Jones
came out and did what he's done a lot of
the time. He controlled it, He took over, even when
he had to sit out. The crazy thing is you
look at what he's done and how he did it.
(01:39:12):
You know, only played thirty two minutes. He sat out
the first the last almost last six minutes of that
first half. Came back in with two minutes when Stevie
Mitchell hurt his shoulder. But I mean twelve of twenty
one to three is seven from the three point line,
five is six from the floor. And here's the other thing.
Six assists, zero turnovers. He wasn't rushed at all. He
controlled what Marquette was trying to do. He's an All American,
(01:39:34):
There's no question about it. When this is all done,
this year is done, he's going to be a first
team All American player. There's that's just how good he
is now. You know, if you look at Wisconsin, what
they've done and how they've approached it this year too.
Speaker 4 (01:39:44):
You know the way john tonj has been playing.
Speaker 3 (01:39:46):
Now a little bit of an off night this afternoon
for john as far as getting in that third file
well on an offensive file with the hook, and that's
one of those areas that both of the Johns, John
Blackwell and john Tonjay need to kind of get rid
of as an offensive hook because they're looking to call those.
Speaker 1 (01:40:02):
You know, you're mentioning that with the with the foul
issues today, even when camp Jones was out, Marquette kept
order in place. When Tanjay got his third early in
the second half, things turned absolutely.
Speaker 4 (01:40:15):
I mean that's when the nine to two run happened.
Speaker 3 (01:40:17):
For marketten In a game like this, a nine to
two run normally isn't a big deal. A game that
had eighteen lead changes like that, it's a big deal
to go on a nine to two run. That's what happened,
and then Wisconsin couldn't put enough stops together to be
able to stop that.
Speaker 1 (01:40:36):
Marquette wins it here today eighty eight to seventy four.
When we continue, we'll check out the Nissan out of
town scoreboard. We're back in one minute. This is a
Badger basketball from lear Field. Post game coverage continues as
Marquette defeats Wisconsin this afternoon eighty eight to seventy four.
A check of the Nissan out of town scoreboard. Earlier
(01:40:56):
today in the Big Ten, it was Ohio State defeating
Rutgers eighty two sixty six, Michigan State all over Nebraska
at the Breslin Center in East Lansing eighty nine to
fifty two, getting Layton and Arbor in a good one
going on, Michigan leading the Iowah Hawkeys seventy six to
seventy a little less than five minutes left in that game.
(01:41:17):
A couple of more Big Ten games on the schedule.
Tomorrow Maryland will be at Purdue that is an eleven
am game, and then tomorrow afternoon at five Big Ten game.
And Eugene is the unbeaten Oregon Ducks taking on Ucla
Oregon nine to oh Ucla sitting at seven and one. Well,
two games of this four game block Butchy, tough ones
(01:41:39):
here for Wisconsin, and now you go to Illinois and
then you have Butler. It's the beauty of your sport.
Though it's not like you got a week to think
about it. I mean, you got these guys will have
to dust themselves off and you're ready for a little
plane ride down to Champagne in pretty short order.
Speaker 3 (01:41:53):
Well that's what happens like this is the game and
this is what as players you love. You got a
chance Tuesday to correct some of the things that you
know are correctable. That I think that's the thing that
you take away with it more than anything. The turnovers, Okay,
those are correctable. And now defensively one on one and
not allowing the straight line drives, those are all correctable.
So it's not like the sky is falling. You've dropped
(01:42:16):
two in a row. But you're a really good basketball team.
Correct the things that you can correct, and you're gonna
be just fine. You're gonna play against the Illinois team
that wants to get up and down and run. They
still haven't come together yet themselves. They're a group of
really talented individuals, but they're not a group that's playing
together as five. Your experience and what you do should
help you in that dramatically.
Speaker 1 (01:42:37):
Well everything you know, when the Badgers were racing out
to this H and O start, and you know, we
talk with Greg and the staff all the time and
they say, look, there's gonna be there's gonna be bumps
along the way.
Speaker 2 (01:42:48):
It's just to be okay, how are you going to
handle it?
Speaker 1 (01:42:50):
I think The one thing that encourages us here moving
forward about this team is a as you mentioned, the mistakes today,
we're buying large correctible. They talk about the chemistry of
this team, even in this new era of three guys.
Through the transfer of Portal, you got seven newcomers overall,
we've talked about how strong that chemistry is. And you know,
it's all great when you're eight no, and then you
(01:43:12):
lose a couple of games.
Speaker 2 (01:43:13):
That's what it gets tested.
Speaker 1 (01:43:14):
But I think this team has the chops to be
able to fight through this and get things back in order.
Speaker 2 (01:43:20):
Hopefully they can as soon as Tuesday.
Speaker 3 (01:43:22):
Absolutely, And there's some things you take away like Max
Kleusband six eleven from three, Like that was a good thing.
You needed to see Max make some shots. He did,
He got out of his slump. Now can I transfer
to Tuesday night? Can you get some of those things
together that aren't necessarily going You still got to get
Big Steve involved a little bit more.
Speaker 4 (01:43:40):
He's got to get himself.
Speaker 3 (01:43:41):
Involvedimore rebounding the ball well. But obviously marquev brought the
double team, which allowed you know, a couple of passes,
stuff like that, but just different ways to have him.
You're even play twenty eight minutes and only give you
two points three assists. Now he gave you ten rebounds.
But how else can you get yourself involved? Even if
you're not getting the ball thrown two? You can you
get some tip ins? Can you find some ways to
(01:44:03):
create some offense, to create some energy, set the focus,
you know, if that defense has to collapse on that paint.
When it collapses on the paint, now all of a sudden,
you're going to get more wide open. Look, so there's
lots of areas that can you know, where guys can capitalize.
Speaker 2 (01:44:17):
All right, still no coach yet. We'll go ahead and
take a break.
Speaker 1 (01:44:19):
Wisconsin and Marquette again, all the makings of a tight one,
but a big second half of Marquette proved to be
the difference here today as the Golden Eagles went at
eighty eight to seventy four. More of our Wisconsin Fort
Dealers post game shows coming up. This is Badger basketball
from Learfield.
Speaker 3 (01:44:35):
Here we go.
Speaker 2 (01:44:35):
It's down on Fois Council.
Speaker 1 (01:44:37):
Ford Dealers post game show continues as Marquette wins it
here this afternoon eighty eight to seventy four. We mentioned
Butchi's right outside the locker room and he is standing
by with head coach Greg Guard.
Speaker 3 (01:44:48):
Well, coach will start here. What are your initial thoughts
on this afternoons game.
Speaker 6 (01:44:51):
Well, it was, to a degree, Brian, a little tale
of two different halves. I mean, obviously the in the
first half, I thought we were decent at keeping the
ball on the paint for the most part. Second half,
you know, obviously we it was a stretch really from
the fifteen minute mark to about the eight minute mark
where we had fourteen possessions and seven turnovers, and that
started the It allowed them to get in transition, they
(01:45:13):
took advantage of it allowed them to get downhill and
put us on our heels, and that was the really
in fourteen possessions is where the difference. So as we
go from up one to down six and we didn't
do you know, good enough job of keeping the ball
in front of us, and some of that's with all
the misdirection and things they do to attack the indecision
or get us switch and try to get a mismatch.
Speaker 3 (01:45:33):
You know.
Speaker 2 (01:45:33):
The other thing is that when we did get them
a miss, we.
Speaker 6 (01:45:35):
Give up nine offensive rebounds in the second half as well,
and then you turn the ball over too much, and specifically,
not only you don't get a shot on your end,
but you put them in transition.
Speaker 2 (01:45:44):
You know that.
Speaker 6 (01:45:45):
We've always said it a turnovers just like a bad misshot.
It just they're off to the races. And that allowed
them to get confidence and get momentum. And you know,
like I said, in that little seven minute windows where
they were able to flip the tide.
Speaker 3 (01:45:57):
You talking about all offensively though, you guys were getting
kind of what you wanted. There was just the turnovers
that led to that. But offensively, how'd you feel like
your flow was?
Speaker 2 (01:46:05):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (01:46:05):
I thought we did some good things.
Speaker 6 (01:46:06):
You know, I thought I haven't seen the second half
shot shirt yet, but the first half one was perfect.
It was all at the rim, it was all good threes.
We didn't settle for any bad shots. And I think
for the second half we did most of that. But
the turnovers, like I said, you can't have sixteen turnovers.
That has to be you know, eight nine somewhere in there.
You're probably not gonna be able to go perfect against
it because of the pressure and the aggressiveness they played with.
(01:46:29):
But those when they came in bunches, like I said,
seven and a fourteen possession window that allowed them to
really start getting confidence in transition.
Speaker 3 (01:46:38):
Something we talked about a little bit. But Max kind
of found his shot, finally got him back. How nice
was it to kind of get used to the old
Max a little bit there?
Speaker 6 (01:46:45):
Yeah, I think he you know, he took good shots too,
and that was the other thing. The shots he got
were result of other guys making plays. He was moving
without the ball. Yeah, it was good. You know, it's
a matter of time before he's gonna make shots. And
you know, it's the other things that we got to
get to, you know, ironed out a little bit and
protect our paint better on the defensive end. But there
was a lot of good things offensively. Like I said, really,
(01:47:07):
it's going to probably as I break down the film,
that seven minute window from fifteen to eight, where we're
going to have find most of our issues that allowed
it to get to where it was.
Speaker 3 (01:47:17):
They go on a nine to two run, and that's
exactly where it was in a game that had nineteen
lead changes back and forth. That's like you said, you
talked about it, we talked about on the air. Last
thing is I let you go here obviously, it's a
game basketball. We love it. It's a quick turnaround. You
got another one where we got to get on a
plane Monday head of Champagne and play a really good
Illinois team as well. So when you do that, what
are some of the preparations you guys will take care of.
Speaker 6 (01:47:38):
Well, we'll break this down and we'll show it tomorrow
when we get together. And then it's a quick turn
of the page. Like I just told May, there's no
there's no pity parties here. Hey, we're playing a gauntlet
that we're going through, so this will help us get better.
I think things from the Michigan game we learned from
an offensive standpoint today to today's game will help us
because it's going to show a lot of things defensively
(01:47:59):
that I think we knew were there but now now
get really exposed and it's it's on us to get
them fixed.
Speaker 3 (01:48:04):
All right.
Speaker 4 (01:48:04):
It sounds good, coach, Thanks so much,
