(00:02):
Your seven time national champions are onthe air, shunning the Badger's score.
Welcome to Wisconsin Badger Women's Hockey,Wisconsin Women's Hockey. He's presented by Goodman's
Jewelers, the Diamond Store of Medicine. Goodman's Jewelers, a destination worth reaching

(00:23):
at two twenty State Street. Nowwith the coal of the game, here's
Paul Brown and Mark greenhol and Wisconsinback in their own zone, coming up.
Icing comes in over the line toHarvey, coming in off the wink.
Harvey, shut up, beautiful,Harvey, give up the the year

(00:47):
and the Badgers won in and overtime. Oh, I just love it.
And that's what happened here at LaBonderina yesterday as the Wisconsin Badger women's hockey
team extended there on beaten streak toten games in a row. They are
now twenty three and four on theyear, they are seventeen and four in

(01:11):
the WCCHA, and with the loss, the Haskis of Saint Cloud State fall
to fifteen eleven and one overall.Welcome to our broadcast along with Greenee,
I'm Paul Brown and Mark I tellyou what as we talked about on the
broadcast last night and yesterday late inthe day. When you talk about Harvey,

(01:36):
she is an outstanding athlete with specialtalents, is she not? Boy,
I'll say she's a world class athleteand she's a game changer. We
spoke about it before. She provedit again yesterday when she just accelerated through
the neutral zone with that puck downthe left wing and was determined to just
drive the net. Ripped just arazor laser shot right off the crossbar,

(02:00):
and Jaybak didn't give her any spaceto work with and she still put it
right where she needed to. Itwas just a gorgeous play mark. When
you're on three on three in anovertime period like that, what's the strategy?
What are you trying to do?The big the critical component there is
puck possession. You know, youwant to just retain puck possession. You're

(02:20):
real prone or susceptible the breakaways, and you know you don't want to leave
the goalie hanging out there with aone on zero or two on one.
So puck possession is even more criticalthan five on five, you know.
And when you guys talked in thelocker room after the game yesterday, and
I'm sure today in terms of theoverall evaluation of the performance of the Badgers,

(02:42):
what did you guys come up with? The staff was real happy with
the fact that we never gave up, you know, we just kept kept
with it. One thing that wewanted was addressed today in video was the
ability to you know, they setup well, they position themselves well in
the neutral zone to limit your optionsand we have to make correct choices,

(03:05):
not try and make too tricky ofa pass that isn't there. Sometimes that
might involve just deciding to chip itup off the boards and glass and into
the zone. Get it behind them. And as far as the overall evaluation
of the Badgers, they're certainly doingvery well. They're number two ranked in
the country and that kind of thingfrom the beginning of the year to now.
How do you look at it personally? What do you see and what

(03:28):
do you like about this club?I like the growth or the evolution or
the maturation, whatever you want tocall it, because we have a lot
of young players and to see theway they're responding, some of them being
their first year in the WCHA,which is pretty big leap, and they're
responding well and I really enjoy theirgrowth as they gain confidence. They they've

(03:51):
got the skills and abilities, theyjust need the confidence to go with it.
And you continue the rotation and goaltending, do you not? And talking
about Mick Naughton, Uh, whatwhat are her assets? What are our
abilities? What are our strengths?Great, great question. Uh, she's
she's got great dimension. She's aboutsix foot tall and uh, you know,

(04:13):
a real physical specimen, and herathleticism is good. She can move
latterly left, right, right toleft real quick, you know. So
she's got that going for it comesin real handy. And when you guys
continue to rotate, and but youget down into the playoff area and toward
the end of the season and yougot Minnesota and Ohio State coming up and

(04:33):
then the playoffs and that kind ofthing. Is it realistic to think that
all of a sudden you're going tohand it to one of the two of
them and say you're the hot hand, we're going with you. Another great
question. You're at stump the bandtoday? Huh No, they both developed
well, they're progressing. Uh,that's a great question. When you're get

(04:54):
a playoff run, if one goaliegets a hot hand. You know,
we'd be inclined to ride always. You'll always talk about the goaltenders will carry
you through the postseason. I meanlast year was evidence of yeah. You
know, Cammi Krona has just deliveredthe meal and zeroed in and we're going
to take a break and we'll talkabout Saint Cloud State when we come back.
This is Badger Women's Hockey presented byGoodman Jewelers the Diamond Store of Madison.

(05:26):
We're back in le Bondering on thecampus of the UW where this afternoon
the Wisconsin Badgers will host the Hoskisof Saint Cloud's State. They're fifteen eleven
and one overall in the year, they're ten ten and one in the WCCHA
would you expect anything any different inwhat they'll try to do this afternoon here.

(05:47):
I think it's going to be realsimilar. Coach Adalski will stick with
the strategy that's got him here thisfar. They've been very successful this season,
and I think they'll present pretty muchthe same format as they did yesterday,
the only change being they'll switch goaliesas they've been rotating two as well,
So we'll see a Hola today andwhat's the scouting report on Ahola?

(06:09):
They're both real good. I mean, there's not going to be any drop
off. That's why he can beconfident and rotating the two. And so
we'll have to earn whatever we canget today in terms of does she give
you anything in terms of going downon puck movement that kind of thing,
or what does the scouting report onher? Pretty straightforward. I'll be honest
with you, I don't have theparticulars on her right now, but she's

(06:32):
been real solid. You know, she gets to the right spots out,
good depth, good position, goodangles. And by the way, Ohio
State they're the number one team inthe country, they're number one in the
pair wise. They went over BamidgieState nine to one last night. And
when you look at the buck Eyes, they have lost to one team from

(06:57):
the WCCHA and Saint Cloud State. That is correct, so you know that
they potentially have some mobility. Theirother loss in the year and they're twenty
four and two overall. They gotbeat by Colegate. They had a thirteen
game winning streak and now they wontheir last eleven in a row. And
it does seem realistically talking to youguys and the people that are involved with

(07:19):
women's hockey that they are probably theteam to beat as far as the national
championship. Yeah, Ohio State,Yeah, yeah, they're a wagon.
You know, they're very old.I think they have about nine fifth year
seniors, maybe five to seven regularfourth year seniors, you know, with
COVID and whatnot and all that theextra year of eligibility, whether it's red

(07:41):
shirts or what have you. Butyeah, they're for real. You know,
they'll bring it. And the WisconsinBadgers are going to use the same
lineup that they had here at LebondArena yesterday. It'll be Wheeler on the
left side with O'Brien and Simms asthe Badgers come out from their locker room
area. What does that line giveyou? Obviously, there's three talented players

(08:05):
up there, and they've they've allthey've all got pretty good visions, so
they're not afraid to dish the puck. They utilize each other. One of
them doesn't try and do it alone, so that makes them all more of
a threat. The second unit remainsthe same Curled along with Hall and Eden.
What about that combination? They're rocksolid I think with Curl, with

(08:26):
curl that found the foundation of thatline. You got a good thing already,
and Edensman playing better every week.Haul's really progressed even though she's only
a freshman. And Gorbatanco will beon the left side with Pricard and Edwards
another pretty good unit, yeah,i'd say. And Garbatenko is just such
an imposing figure out there. She'sa large presence. And defensively it's Jungles

(08:50):
and Harvey paired together defensively along withPotter and Wilgren and Murphy at Edwards.
Are you getting to the point wherethe ends and the illnesses they're starting to
come around a little bit? Yeah. In fact, today we just got
word from the trainer Murphy's feeling alot better, So that's promising, you
know. And they're going to introducethe starting lineups here, uh this afternoon.

(09:13):
Another sellout crowd at Lebon Arena. And boy, that's been an impressive
thing for the Badgers in terms ofLebon Arena. It's the last seven years
they've won one hundred and twelve games, only ten losses in six ties.
That's incredibly impressive when you think aboutit, isn't it. Yeah? Yeah,

(09:33):
this place is just the best venuein sports, as I've said before,
and with the Sunshine and you gotthe UW band here, we've had
pretty good success in this building. And we're about six minutes away from the
opening face off of the Badgers andthe Huskies and Wisconsin will be introduced starting
with their goaltender tonight. McNaughton willbe in the Naps. In her career

(09:56):
mark she's eleven and two as asafe percentage of ninety two percent, goals
against average of one five eight, and a couple of shutouts already in her
young career. Yeah, it wasgreat to see her last week hang on
tight to seal the victory as wecame from behind up in Duluth, you
know. And by the way, this will be the one hundred and eighth

(10:18):
meeting between the Huskies and the Badgers. Wisconsin has won ninety five of them,
only lost nine and three have endedin a tie Ierin Madison, the
Badgers are fifty and four, andin neutralized situations they are two and oho.
They're forty nine and four. Whenthey've played games in Saint Cloud,

(10:41):
they're nine one and one in theirlast eleven games, and they beat them
already three times this year by scoresof five to two, four to two,
and two to one, and prettyimpressive stuff there. Mark, You've
got a smile on your face.It must be kind of nice to be
around a program like this where theywin a lot of games. It's a

(11:03):
privilege. And not only are theygood hockey players, but they're really good
people, you know. And Ithink Mark sets the tone for that atmosphere
and that's the type of people hegets in here. And as you progress
down the season, the Badgers willbe on the road next week, they'll
be up at Bmidge State. Wewill not be doing that game next week.

(11:24):
Both of us have prior commitments beforewe got into talking about doing hockey
that neither one of us could beinvolved with next week. But then the
Badgers will come home and they willbe taking on the Minnesota Golden Gophers and
the Buckeyes of Ohio State. Andwhen you look at the ratings and rankings

(11:48):
of the women's teams, basically inthe WCJA, you're talking about the top
three teams. Yeah, in essence, those last few weekends are going to
be like playoff hockey, and it'scertainly going to be exciting and it's necessary
for the Badgers to keep winning. We'll have the playing of our national anthem
here we'll be back. This isWisconsin Badger Women's Hockey presented by Goodman Jewelers

(12:13):
the Diamond Store of Madison. It'sthe Huskies against the Badgers, and we're
going to have the opening face offcoming up here momentarily, been a busy
time around the Coal Center this weekendand last night over fifteen thousand watched the

(12:39):
Wisconsin Badgers win in the overtime againstthe Minnesota Golden Gophers. Unfortunately, they
had another big crowd earlier today andthe Boilermakers of Purdue defeated the Wisconsin Badgers
in basketball. And hopefully the Wisconsinhockey team can complete the suitep for the
Hoskies and extend their winning streak toeleven games, but more importantly, get

(13:03):
those three points for the wind Huh. Yeah, it's a tight conference race
here in the WHA. Badgers willbe skating from our right to left as
we opened up the first period herethe Oski's of Saint Cloud State from our
left to our right. They're openingline today. Coming up is Henderson along

(13:24):
with Lynde and Zimmerman. Badgers startwith Curl, Hall and Eden up front
and we're underway from Lebrond and Jungleswith it around to Harvey. Harvey backing
it up in the Badger's zone nearwinging the plight of Curl, who flipped
it down on the corner on theleft side, and going back over.
Larson rimmed it around the boards tryingto bring it out, comes back to

(13:48):
the blueline of Wisconsin. Jungles withit, try to advance the puck,
but Ross intercepted it. AT's inher eyes. Curl will pick it up
on her off wing, carry itin over the line. Back goes Ross
to intercept and Ross is checked, but she gets to play up from near
side and going back is potter forWisconsin. Botter with it, will break

(14:11):
it on the left wing and theymove it down on the left wing corner
of the Husky zone, going backover to set it up. Saint Cloud
State trying to come out of thezone controlling it is Annik. Annik lost
control of it. We've got toplay the gentry. Gentry in the corner
coming over to try and help outhis Rovou and here's a potential two on

(14:31):
one coming in over the line.Shot and it went way of the mark.
Fuck comes all the way back tothe point on the right side.
Zimmerman tried to hold the zone, trying to chase it down. The goaltender
went way out of that and flipit up the far boards. Saint Cloud
State trying to move it in frontof the Badgers. Wisconsin will turn and
come up the left wing and overthe line coming in off the wing on

(14:54):
the left side is O'Brien plaid itoff the back wall and there it's it's
going to be set up by SaintCloud's State. Eighteen twenty seven are remitting
in the first period, no scorerso far, and it's played down on
the in behind the Badger net.Wisconsin will go back, they'll change up
as they come out of the zone. Gorbatanco, per Card and Edwards are

(15:18):
out and whistle and play is goingto be stopped. Yeah, we got
it offsides there, but trying toget her in the zone. See what
we can do here. In thefirst period, the Badgers have scored forty
goals and allowed seventeen. Saint CloudState has scored nineteen and they've allowed six.
Gorbitanco out with her line mates stilla Edwards and Picard and it's going

(15:43):
to be driven down on the Badgerszone and going back Wisconsin behind their own
net. Will work it up totheir boards. Both teams at full strength
bucket center ice. It's going tobe taken away by Farrell. Farrell on
the player round over the Kaufman andwill back handed out of the Wisconsin zone.
Play in the far corner. Badgersturn and they come out of their

(16:04):
own zone at center ice. Theyplay it to the blue line. It's
tipped by Gorbatanco down in behind thethat Saint Cloud stayed around the boards trying
to break it out with Bray,a little scrum going out in the corner.
Lynd is there along with Bray. The Badgers try to force the puck
loose. The officials watching the playand they let them go back in behind

(16:27):
the net. It's Larson with it. Larson on the break, comes out
of the zone, sliding it aheadto Henderson and the puck loose and whistle.
Play is going to be stopped atthe Badger line. There's some nicept
checking there by Hal and Eden therein an attempt to get the puck in
the net, I mean the puckin the zone deep. That helps Eden

(16:48):
having an outstanding season, the veryright winger, the junior she's averaging more
than a couple of points a game, and she's a two time w COCHA
Forward of the Week. And theHosky stern and they'll come up the near
boards and the Badger's zone. Gentryis out with bowlby and surreal for the

(17:11):
Hosky comes all the way back downon the zone of Wisconsin. Of going
back is Rovu Rovu moving past thechick there as trying to hold it.
Was Eden, Badger's trying to pickup the puck coming in over the line,
controlling it as O'Brien off with abackhander and a cover up. The
puck came loose as it's to theleft side of the goaltender Aloa and play

(17:37):
is going to be stopped. What'shoping that it pucket rebound out a little
further there because Eden came up thereto play it on O'Brien's initial shot.
Ahola has a one point sixteen goalsagainst average, a saved percentage that better
than ninety five percent. Pretty impressive. Yeah, sure is. They got

(17:59):
a good combination of goaltending as well. There's about five teams in the WCCHA
that have a rotation of goaltenders Minnesota, Minnesota, Duluth, Saint Cloud the
Badgers coming in over the line. This is Wheeler tried to put a move
on the tip on the backhander asO'Brien tries to work it back in the
corner. Badgers look to set itup in a scoreless game in the first

(18:23):
period. Trying to skate it downin the corner. Is Potter looking for
help in front of the neat there'sa shot just one of the goal and
had been fired by Potter or Wheeler. Pardon me in and the play comes
toward the blue line as Wisconsin infront of the bench of Saint Cloud State.
The Oscars go back shots and sofar not a shot on goal in

(18:48):
the game. Here we're at fifteenforty remaining in a scoreless first period.
I think they're going to get Simsfor something here. They're taking her to
the box. I don't know ifit was a hold or what the gonna
charge her with, but it'll costher two minutes. So Sims will give
the power play opportunity to the Huskiesof Saint Cloud State and the face off

(19:11):
will come up back in the zoneof the Badgers. That time of the
penalty is four to twenty and Wisconsinon the penalty kill. See how effective
they are. And there's Kaufman witha drive right on, but the save
is made and play is stopped infront of the Badger net I like the

(19:34):
way that Eva got out there ontop of the crease. Nice job or
controlling the rebound. And we're downto one fifty four remaining on the man
advantage. Four of the Hoskies ofSaint Cloud State on the power play situation,
Bowl be off and there's a shotdeflicted right out in front. Backhander

(19:57):
cover up. The rebound is forcedin the corner as Lynn, looking for
help to hold it in, comesaround on the point on the play to
Ferrell. Ferrel tried to work itdown in the wing or pardon me,
that was Kaufman around the boards overto try and set it up and controlling
the puck and trying to move itin shot win Why of the goal?

(20:18):
Play comes around the boards on thenear side. Wisconsin in a shorthanded situation
here and the Hoskis will go backfourteen fifty five remaining in the first period.
No score in the game. Shotsare now two to one or two
to nothing so far in the gameand coming up ice controlling it. The

(20:45):
Huskies come through center ice in upthe Wisconsin line, scriven Or lost control
of the play. Badgers forced theplay back down on the Husky zone controlling
the puck. That's Larsen. Larsenwith help giving get off on the play
to Ross Ross moving through center icewith help. They're at full strength and

(21:07):
the play Badgers force it out overto center ice. Good job by this
unit on the penalty kill and thetime and the manadvantage situation is thirty three
seconds remaining on the power play forSaint Cloud State. Yeah, a great
shift by O'Brien, Jungles Harvey.Nice work on the penalty kill. Trying

(21:30):
to win. The face off willbe bowlby and they go against Gorbatanko.
The two in the first are inthe face off circle and it's going to
be played back down in the corner, back down on the Badger's zone.
Larsen over to pick it up forSaint Cloud State. Little give and go
between Rogu and in front. TheBadgers add a potential opportunity there. A

(21:56):
hole is not afraid to come outof the net, which she sure does
come out, doesn't the dot theleft dot earlier and she was out in
the high slot right. Does thatmake a goaltender coach nervous a little bit?
Wow? Yeah, gray hairs theregoing? Where are you going?
Get back here? Right, Alicia? Face off coming up. Badgers curl

(22:17):
in the face off circle, whistlestopping that face off. We're down to
twenty seconds remaining of the man advantage. Fourteen minutes remainting in the first period.
There's a shot from the point that'sgoing to be turned away and back
come the Huskies on the right side. They got Bowlby trying to go to
the net. Instead, they playit around over to Sireo. There's a

(22:38):
shot deflected down in the corner.Badgers turn and Bowlby with it back to
the point on the play, that'sLarson at center ice and the Badgers are
back at full strength coming out ofthe penalty boxes sim so they don't let
them convert on the power play.It remained scoreless with thirteen twenty eight reminting

(22:59):
in the period. It nice joband the Huskies look to come up the
near wing. They try to getthe lead to lend lend Is tied up
Ban She was bumped by Potter, played down in the corner on the far
side, back in the Wisconsin zone, and Wisconsin turns and they'll try to
bring it out with Eden. Edenangled it off the sideboards and it's the

(23:22):
Hoskies back in their own zone.Quickly on the play, I had d
Ross Ross on the lead, triedto hit lind the captain, deep in
the zone. But they've had somepretty good pressure having they yeah, they
have. They've created a few chanceshere and it'sent her eyes. The badger's
trying to pick it up and it'sgoing to be played in the neutral zone

(23:44):
and turning trying to advance. Itwas lind Lynn had it cleared from her
stick and going back over to setit up. That's Taylor Larson. Larson
with it twelve thirty two remaining ina scoreless first period and picking it up.
This is Farrell coming in over theline and Kaufman trailing Goffman down on
the corner on the far boards asthey try to work the puck away from

(24:06):
the wing. It comes out ontop. There's a shot by Ross in
traffic. The goaltender is down boyand a Beck and earn and a goal.
Yep, they did get the goalon the rebound in front of the
Badger net. They had some pressureand Wisconsin couldn't clear the puck. Yeah,
they wrapped it around the far sidefrom behind the net. Ava was

(24:27):
sprawled and couldn't quite get back overthere to the other side. Seven point
fifty the time of the goal. Here, as Saint Cloud's State gets the
one to nothing lead, we're goingto take a thirty second break. This
is Badger Women's Hockey presented by GoodmanJewelers the Diamond Store of Madison. Surreal

(24:57):
gets the goal. We leave. That would be the sixth goal of the
year, and that came with nowtwelve minutes and ten seconds remaining here in
the first period of play. Canyou kind of recap what happened there in
front of that They have some trafficin front of the net. Eava made
a nice sieve on the initial shot. It popped out in front of her.

(25:19):
She sprawled forward to try and coverit up and it got just outside
of her reach and then an UHSaint Cloud player took it back around behind
the net and wrapped it for agoal before Eva could get back over to
the other side, and they're callingin an unassisted goal. As I'm looking
at it here, she may havebeen the one that picked up the rebound

(25:41):
there and carried it behind the net. And for her it was her sixth
goal of the year unassisted. Andthat's where we stand here in the first
period. That's the same thing SaintCloud State did yesterday. Took a one
to nothing, laid over the Badgers. We were hoping we could score for
but not to be I guess, and they're taking another break, so we're

(26:03):
gonna take one too. This isBadger Women's Hockey presented by Goodman Jewelers the
Diamond Store of Madison. Officials weretaking a look at it just to make
sure it was a goal, andindeed it was, so it's gonna count
Sireo getting it. That's their sixthgoal of the year, an unassisted effort,

(26:27):
and that came at seven point fiftyof the period. And it's a
one to nothing game and Wisconsin hasbeen out shot so far six to one
in this game. Badger's average overforty shots per game. And it's gonna
be played down along the boards onthe near side now. Both teams back
at full strength, coming up iice controlling it coming in over the line.

(26:51):
The Huskies with that one to nothinglead, trying to play it at
the point, comes back out toneutralized Ross with it on the right side,
and it's going to be dumped downin the corner. Peterson is out
with Scribner and Myers on the forwardline for Saint Cloud State. Played back
down in the corner and chasing itback down is Annick Annick flipping it around

(27:14):
the boards. Badger's at the point, Jungles holds it in shot and the
glove save is made by Aloa.A nice quick glovehand by her. See
who's going to take the draw herefor us? Looks like Cassie Hall be
in a circle face off, comesup to the right side of the goaltender.

(27:44):
Badgers needing to tie the game hereif they could get a goal the
draw. There's a shot by Curlfired a wide, came off the back
wall down in the corner. It'sgoing to be backhanded around the Board's mill
Water with it turning, trying tobring it out of this your own.
Curl holds it in nice play. She swept it right off her stick.
Badger's fired around to the point andthere's a shot in between the dots.

(28:08):
It's cleared, Wisconsin holding it inand there's another drive. Curl tried to
pick it up and it's going tobe played out past center. Ice comes
to the Badger line, chasing itdown in the corner and Murphy goes back
to trying control. She's paired withEdwards defensively, and the play in the

(28:29):
neutral zone. It's going to bedriven down and whistle and play is going
to be stopped at the blue linethere side. Sir Paul couldn't get out
of the zone before Murphy tried todump it back in, so resulting in
a face off in a neutral zone. Here Gentry is out with her line
mates of Bowlby and Surreal. Tryingto win the face off for the Badgers

(28:55):
is Casey O'Brien. She's third inthe NCAA in game winning goals with a
total of seventeen for O'Brien and Wisconsinback in their own zone, looking to
head man it coming up Ice,O'Brien with it on the play to Sims.
Badgers looked at it deflected back inthe Wisconsin's zone. Jungles with it

(29:21):
turn tried to play it to theblue line of the Huskies and they turn
and come back, bowling over theline and moving it in surreal with another
drive that steer it away. Badgersturn and try to transition out of their
own zone. They come in overthe line and pulling it up. O'Brien
with it. O'Brien on a littlegive and go to sim and Sims with

(29:44):
a puck. Tried to drive itthrough traffic and it's going to be turned
away by Kaufman. They stack itup in front of the net there they
don't give you much to work withand going down deep in the zone as
Wilgrin. Badger's turn and they'll workit out of their own zone. So
Wisconsin out trying to control it inthe neutral zone, playing it a head

(30:06):
on the shot Edwards right in therebound by Gorbatanco, her sixth goal of
the year. Gorbatanco ties it upfor the Badgers with the Huskis of Saint
Cloud State. That was great.I think that might have been Sheila Edwards
or Layla Edwards. Excuse me,that put the initial puck on net and
that's what you gotta do. Can'tshoot it wide? It was Layla creates

(30:30):
a rebound Warbatakle's right there at thedoorstep to pop it in for a goal.
I love it. Sixth goal ofthe year for Gorba Tanco and Wisconsin
scores on an even strength goal andthey tie this game at one one.

(30:51):
I'd like to see that when theteam comes right back after the Hoskis had
scored, Yes, at seven fiftyof the period. You got it,
Paul. The great effort Gorbatanco andEdwards and O'Brien get assists on the goal.

(31:12):
They're going to review this one too, I think Paul I wondered about
that. Looked like they were goingto take a look. This is Wisconsin
Badger Women's hockey presented by Goodman Jewelers. The Diamond Store of Madison will be
right back after this along with MarkGreenhall. I'm Paul Brown. We're in

(31:40):
the first period from Lebon Arena wherethe Hoskis of Saint Clouds State and the
Badgers are all tied up at oneone. They scored at seven fifty of
the period. Surreal getting the goalor sixth of the year unassisted, and
then the Badgers counter with their owneven strength goal at ten twenty five,
scored by Gorbatanko her sixth of theyear. A couple of assists were given

(32:05):
on the goal to O'Brien, andfor O'Brien it was her thirty first assists
of the year and Edwards gets anassist. They're twenty fourth of the year
and it's a good goal. Theyconfirmed it after the review. I was
hoping that would be the outcome.Obviously. Badger's overall are twenty three and

(32:30):
four on the year. Here athome they are twelve and one on the
season, and Gorbatanco is out ofthe ice again along with Pericard and Edwards,
and they will go up against LynneHenderson and Zimmerman lay at center.

(32:51):
Ices going to be controlled and it'sbackhanded to the Hosky line, and we've
got a Badger that's down and gettingup rather slowly. Over there. Wilgrin
looks like she incurred a little painthere, slow to get up. Trainer
comes over to talk to her tomake sure that she's okay. She's a

(33:12):
tough cookie. I hope she's allright. Stephanie Aren't is the athletic trainer
for the Badger women's hockey team. She's chatting with her. Doesn't seem to
be a very serious conversation, mighteven come back out or she going to
the other end of the bench. Now she's okay, it appears, thank
god. Other scores in the WCCHAfor women's hockey, Ohio State beat Bmidgie

(33:43):
State by a score of nine toone, of Minnesota over Saint Thomas five
to two, Duluth beat Minnesota Statetwo to one, and the standings it's
Ohio State on top with Wisconsin,Minnesota and Duluth the three teams. Then
comes Saint Cloud State so far andthree regular weekends of hockey. After the

(34:08):
conclusion of this one, Badgers willbe on the road at Bamidge State next
weekend. Reed Magnum is coming backto call those games, all right,
getting him out of retirement. Itseems to be a trend shaking guys and

(34:28):
right pulling them back out. It'salways good to hear his voice. And
then we will regroup and be backwith Minnesota in a couple of weeks,
and at that point we will goas far as the Badgers go, and
hopefully that winds up in Durham,New Hampshire at the Frozen four. Have
you ever been to Durham I don'tknow if I have. I'm trying to

(34:50):
think it's if it's been I thinkI have. It's been hosted out there
once before. I believe that's wherethe NCAA Frozen four will be for the
Gals. Badgers are the defending nationalchampion, one of seven titles that they
won. Nine twenty seven are remainingin the first period. Shots are seven

(35:12):
to four in the game, bothteams now back at full strength. Annick
with it, angles it off thesideboards, it slides down in the corner.
Edward's back to rim it around onthe clear, coming up vice with
it. Wisconsin and Wheeler out withO'Brien and Simms, and there's a drive
and it's back to the that ofthe Badgers. Wisconsin trying to control it,

(35:36):
Murphy defensively looking to help in thecorner, banged around in the play
controlling it. A Sims off toPotter or Wheeler back to the point on
the near side and again backhanded byMurphy as Saint Cloud State's Kaufman will backhanded
up the boards. Bitter goes intothe bench area lobbed it out of play.

(35:58):
There the coaches Brian Adoalski, he'sin his second year, seventeen years
overall in coaching, spend ten yearsat North Dakota. You surprised they dropped
their program, Boy, I wasshocked. It was I believe temporarily there
was a chancellor from California or something. Clearly didn't know the demographic. Yeah,
thought he'd save a few shekels.Drops a flagship program. I don't

(36:22):
know. It was too really toobad. Brian also spends some time in
Wisconsin. He was up at UW. Stevens Point for five years eight thirty
eight, remaining here in the period. Badger's jungles with it around on the
play. That's Harvey and she'll driveit off the glass. Curl comes over
to pick it up, back overto Harvey. RB moving around on the

(36:45):
far boards. RB controlling the puck, tried to center it, went through
the crease to the near wing corner, play along the boards. Badgers at
the point Jungles holding it in deepin the zone Wisconsin, looking to set
it up shot by Harvey and thatwas blocked in front. Boy, she
had a good opportunity there. Jungleswith it, moving it in shot,

(37:07):
tried to get it through traffic.Badger's with some good pressure here just inside
the line. It's Harvey look atthe stick handling that it's like magic on
her stick around a curl and it'sgoing to be turned away and dumped out
of the zone and was Wisconsin chasingit back in their own zone. We

(37:30):
have seven point thirty nine remaining inthe first period. Badgers in Saint Cloud
tied it won oh and back intoWisconsin's zone. Curl goes back to cover
and trying to get help from Jungles. They work it behind the app the
Hosky's with some pressure and it's tippedto the blueline. Curl with it goes
down and turning with it as Kaufmanfor the Hosky's backup ice. They come

(37:55):
in over the line. It wasplayed by Annik and anniklet helped from Kaufman
trying to get to Ferrell back inthe Wisconsin zone on the near corner up
the wing on the near side, and Wisconsin's Gorbatanco is out. She's working
trying to go toward the net.Edward's back around over the Gorbatanco. Garbatanco

(38:17):
back down in the corner over toEdwards. There's two Edwards in this game,
and their sisters, and it's backover the potter moving an end shot
just wide of the goal around theboards, Edwards trying to hold it in,
picked up by Alind sext thirty fourremaining, first period. Now the
Edwards sisters that Sheila and Layla Shawcoming around over to pick it up along

(38:44):
the boards on the near side.Osky's bring it to the blue line of
Wisconsin. They tip it down onthe corner and then went off the stick
of Zimmerman. He had the goal, she had the goal in yesterday's game.
And there's a shot tipped wide ofthe mark and it's going to be
played by Wisconsin up the boards onthe near side. It's gonna go the
length of the ice and going backover as Larson. Larson, looking for

(39:07):
help turn gives it around to Anakin. The play went up over the glass
and out of play. How wouldyou analyze so far the first period?
Well, I think we're doing abetter job of taking what they give us
as far as not forcing passes inthe neutral zone, So I like that
improvement there. It's nice to seeus come back scoring right after we yielded
a goal, so I think we'reon the right track here. Well,

(39:30):
you got your notepad and you're goingdown to the locker room after the period.
What are you gonna tell them,Well, it's just gonna say,
keep getting bucks in the net, don't shoot it wide. That just ends
up as a breakout for the otherteam. And the play comes to center
Rice. The Hoskies will play itin over the Wisconsin line, but that's
broken up by Murphy and Wisconsin comesthrough center Rice. In over the line

(39:53):
is Sims. Sims controls the play. She pulls up and then tried to
play deep in the zone in thecorner. Sims picked it up, goes
in behind the net and moves itout in front. Shot blocked. Rebound.
That shot is fired blocked as Murphyhad taken the shot. Boy.
Sims is pretty nifty with the wayshe handles the puck. Yeah, she

(40:16):
could stick handling the phone both,I think and playing it up ice stick
handling a phone booth. Huh,that'd be interesting that Sims with it right
there and she'll dump it deep inthe zone. Comes around over to O'Brien.
Those two love playing together. Curldiving toward the net, tried to
get off a drive, but itwas tucked away there by ho Hola.

(40:39):
You gotta like the three hundred andsixty degree vision that O'Brien displays out there,
knowing where her teammates are located withouteven looking. She's out of Milton
mass The senior thirteen goals, thirtyassists this year, ninety five goals in
her career, her sixty one goals, ninety five assists, but a total

(41:01):
of one hundred and fifty six points. He's a productive player. Clutches up
what we needed and going back overto set it up. That's Rovu and
the play in the neutral zone interceptedby Harvey of Wisconsin. Harvey comes in
over the line pride to center itand it was clear to the wing on
the near side, picked up andcontrol by Hall. Hall is checked from

(41:23):
behind. No penalty call there. We've had one penalty in the game that
against Wisconsin, but the Hoskies didn'tconvert on the power play. Shots are
eight to seven. Now the Badgersdid get the lead back in shots.
There's a shot right on and ahole. It makes the save on that
one nice shot by Hall there righton net. You hope for the rebound

(41:47):
a hole. It did a nicejob of controlling it. A hole in
their career is twenty six thirty twoand two. But a save percentage of
better than ninety two percent. That'swhat you guys, goalie coaches like you
get up into that ninety two's that'spretty good. Yeah, ninety five.
Well like Jane had a ninety sixpercentage yesterday. That'll win you some games.

(42:13):
Base off will come up back inthe Saint Cloud State zone. Goals
of the game won a piece andSurreal scored for Saint Cloud State. That
was her sixth of the year, and Gorbatanco scored for Wisconsin. Draw out
of the point comes to Harvey.Harvey got the big game winner last night,

(42:37):
and the centering pass comes back toHarvey. She flipped it around on
the right side. Badgers looked totry and set it up. They move
it behind the net. They've gotEden in front of the goal moving it
in. Shot. There was firedand taken, but it's back of the
net. There's another shot in frontof that boy. The Badgers with pressure

(42:58):
O'Brien, sim and Eden, andit's going to be played by Curl Curl
behind the net. Wisconsin still controlsthe puck with good pressure. Here there's
Harvey with it with a drive andthat's deflected. Why three point forty remainting
in the period, one p seventeenremitting in a penalty time. There's a
shot pushed away from in front ofthe net. Larson with it. Nice

(43:22):
pressure by Wisconsin here, Mark,Yeah, we're retaining possession of the puck.
Now, they just got it outof the zone, but we've still
got control of it. There's onea minute remaining on the penalty time that
had been called on Zimmerman, andthe Badgers turn in neutral ice. Maybe
they can set it up one moretime and potentially get another opportunity here coming

(43:44):
in over the line. This isEdwards off on the play and Wilgrin with
it. She's back out on theice after and there's a shot deflected in
front play along the boards on thenear wing, and it's going to be
dumped out of the zone. Downto twenty nine seconds remitting in the penalty

(44:05):
time to Zimmerman and two forty eightremaining in the period. All with it
comes back into the line trying tochase it down in the corner. Is
Edward's looking for help from Wheeler, but it will be dumped down the length
of the ice and the Badgers willgo back and regrow Jungles will pick it
up and she skates in behind thenet and she'll come out of the zone

(44:28):
carrying the puck, comes to theleft wing. Wilgrin with it at the
husky line, fired it in behindthat play. Larsen picked up that pass.
Badgers hold it in and if Wisconsintrying to work it toward the net
blocked out front. Boy, theycollapse really well in front of the gold,
don't they. Yeah, they clogup the middle and block a lot

(44:50):
of shots. And there's a driveand that's pushed in to the right side
of the goaltender for the Badgers inthe nets. Is McNaughton one fifty four
remaining in the period and played downalong the boards near side back to Ross
at the point Rink watt in thepass and that goes to uh Rovu and

(45:13):
that shot went high off the glass, comes around Ross waiting at the point
it's played down in the corner overto pick it up as Sunderlin and the
Badgers will clear that one as theycome up the wing in the neutral zone,
turning and playing it back. That'sScribner and whistle and play will stop
here with one twenty three remaining inthe period. We got a couple of

(45:39):
saves there Byeva when we needed them. See if we can get possession,
win this draw, get another chanceon the other end. Who we got
taking the draw? Or is thatO'Brien gonna go? I think so?
Number twenty six. Is O'Brien outof Milton mass sixty one career goals and

(46:07):
the total of the that we talkedabout a lot of points. Yeah,
to the point on the left sideover the Larsen and Wisconsin will turn and
come out of their own zone. Both teams at full strength and over the
line trying to go to the net. Jungles couldn't handle the pass and it's
going to be turned and dumped byShribner all the way back. We're under

(46:30):
a minute now, remitting in anice single draw. The face off coming
up back in the zone of SaintCloud's state. They're ten, ten and
one in the WCCHA. They wereranked ninth and tenth in the Hockey Pols,
depending on which one you look at. The Badgers were number two in
both POLESO it'd be nice to popone in here before the ferid ends.

(46:53):
WU wasn't it. Well, let'ssee what happens Murphy with it down on
the corner on the left side, see if they can get it to a
O'Brien or Sims in front. That'sSims with the puck, and Sims carries
it around, dumps it deep inthe zone and the Hoskies will turn nicely
stolen away there. Good job byEdwards to control the puck in the zone

(47:16):
and there's a shot blocked in trafficand it's going to be turned back coming
up by Shribner and trying to playit in the Badger zone and she managed
to dump it and Wisconsin will goback. We're down to twenty seconds remaining
in the period. Wisconsin comes intothe line O'Brien was looking for Sims and

(47:37):
it's angled around the boards. Thescorer is one one. Shots are thirteen
to eight in the first period andplay continues. Badgers just look to take
it away from in front of thenet, and we've come to the end
of the first period with a oneto one game. Your thoughts on the
first twenty minute. They blocked alot of shots. They did locked as

(48:00):
many as the goaltender had saves forthem, which was thirteen, so we
got to find a way to workthe wide angles or something well. And
we'll let you go downstairs and passon your analysis of what you see from
up here. Noah Clark will beback with Todd Maluski, and Todd is
the hockey writer for Wisconsin for menand women, and they'll be chatting about

(48:22):
the Badgers after we come back. This is Wisconsin Badger Hockey produced by iHeartMedia
and Goodman Jewelers, the sponsor theDiamond Store of Madison, Wisconsin Women's Hockey.

(48:46):
It's presented by Goodman's Jewelers, theDiamond Store of Medicine. Goodman's Jewelers
a destination worth reaching at two twentyState Street. Back here at Score Wisconsin
one, Saint Cloud State one. This is the Badger Women's Hockey intermission report

(49:07):
for that by Goodman's Jewelers. NoahClark I enjoyed with Todd Maleski of the
Wisconsin State Journal. Todd, thefirst period really was kind of what we
saw yesterday. Back and forth fromboth of these teams. Really no easy
goals, a lot of his secondchance efforts from both sides, and at
the end of one it's tied yeah, I think you see Wisconsin trying to

(49:30):
get to the middle of the icea little bit more. But Saint Cloud,
the way they play that make makesthat very difficult. They they're gonna
not They're gonna make you work forthat that ice in front of the net.
And the one goal that that theBadgers did get, they they got
a free run to the net byKelly goerver Tanko for a rebound and it
happened to look like win off orstick or glove or something. Justice who's

(49:51):
crashing the net. And that's thoseare the kind of goals the Badgers need.
I mean, it feels like thoseare the goals that the Badger's need,
period, but especially when you playSaint Cloud, because you need to
be strong in front of the netand be on the lookout for those rebounds
and that's that's where they got theirlast night. Talking with coach Dan Cook,
you know, the goalie play wasincredible last night in game one.

(50:14):
Today in game two, he said, expect a lot more from the same
and we've seen that from both Sanniyaholaand Ava McNaughton. What if you're what
have you seen from the goalie playerfrom both goaltenders they have played outstanding even
though the score is tied one toone. Yeah, Sanny a Hola is
just looks really fundamentally strong a playerthat he knows the angles and knows where

(50:38):
she needs to be, and andand and limits the rebounds. She did
give a one rebound there and Wisconsone'sable to put it away. But that's
really crucial if you know you're gonnabe facing a lot of shots, which
tends to happen in games against Wisconsin. For for Saint Cloud you need to
limit those second chance, second andthird chances, and she's done well with

(50:58):
that. I think mcnonton is.There was one play a shot kind of
came out of the corner. Shewas right up against the post and she
needed to be because it looked likeit hit the post and kind of grazed
her. That could have been oneof those ones that just sneaks in and
then all of a sudden, SaintCloud's got a two one league goal to
the second period. But she looked, she's looked good. The one that
got past her was a scramble andI kind of understand why was Scot's had

(51:21):
challenged that one because it looked likeit might have gone off a Saint Cloud
player hand in the crease. Itlooked like there may have been goalie in
our fears it was. It's ajudgment call there, And we've seen a
lot of those between here here atLabon and over at the goal center in
the last couple of days in termsof goalie video reviews that have been a
little bit that they could go eitherway. Yeah, And that was the

(51:43):
next thing too, is like goaltenderinterference. Both coaches challenged. Yeah,
both of those goals for goaltender apperence. Like you said last night Minnesota,
questionable calls from the Badgers and theGophers in that incredible game that we were
all blessed with. Tonight, it'skind of the same story. Give your
take, you know on this becauseis it should it be zero zero or

(52:05):
those questionable calls just you know, bang bang play. I think I'm fine
just from the reviews that I see, I'm fine with both of those goals
standing here tonight. I think onthe the Saint Cloud's State goal, I
don't know that there was enough evidencethere to overturn anything. The Cole colin
the as was goal. Same thingon the Wisconsin I don't think there was

(52:28):
enough either. If you're looking atevidence of of Gorver Tanko putting it in
with her glove instead of her stick, you can't really tell that on the
replay of that it's off, andit didn't look like there was any goalie
interference before that puck was played. So I think those are those are okay
ones. But I do understand, like I'm saying before, I understand where

(52:51):
the coaches were like, I've gotI want you to take a look at
it. If it only cost mea time out, I would I would
rather that get a second look atthe thing. Maybe, you know,
the official season we didn't see.Yeah, and Wisconsin at least it's tied.
It's it's been a fun battle.Yesterday it was an incredible one.
Today it's been even better. Thoughtson period number two? What does Wisconsin

(53:13):
have to do to come out ofthis period? You know, successful,
they've dominated in second periods all seasonone. Yeah, I think if you're
Wisconsin, you're looking at this andlike, yeah, more of the same.
We're doing fine here. This isa game that they're you know,
they're they're getting good chances. Thoseare you know, you'd like to think
those are going to go in.It's a little tougher when the goalie santi
Ajla, because you know that that'sit's tougher to get them past her.

(53:36):
She's she's that good. Uh.But they've they've been there before. They
the same kind of thing in SaintCloud. They had to just keep working
at it, working on it,and eventually it came through Beckett. I
believe that was in November when theyplayed there. Not easy to score on
Saint Cloud, but as long asyou're getting the opportunities, that's what you
need to do. For Saint Cloud. They need to try and play in
Wisconsin's and more because they they've beensuccessful in getting some you know, twenty

(54:00):
and thirty second shifts in Wisconsin's end. A lot a lot of teams are
able to do that, and sothat helps to wear things down and get
things you will play with the pucka little bit more. And the other
thing too with Saint Cloud State, what I've kind of noticed a lot of
physicality coming from the Husky side andthe Badgers have been able to counteract,
you know, the physicality, butphysical would you say for the Badgers what

(54:23):
needs to happen in the second period? This is more of a team that
has speed rather than strength. Yeah, I think that's that's been a I
don't want to say a weak point, but that is a is something where
we see it in the past whenwhen teams play the Badges physical, it's
tougher for them because they do liketo make, you know, the fancy
plays and and create with some space. When that space isn't there or when

(54:45):
you're getting a body on you, makes it a lot more difficult to do
that, I think, you know, for Saint Cloud, Emma Gentry,
a big body, five eleven, she plays plays hard down the middle.
That's someone I really like her game. She got a little dinged up at
toward the end yesterday. I'm gladto see she's out there again. But
yeah, if Saint Cloud's got tokeep pushing that pressure and keep bringing somethings

(55:07):
cality in Wisconsin, you know, try to find some space out of it,
try to you know, make keepthe buck moving to avoid that.
Period number two coming up in justa few from Noah Clark alongside Tom Maleski
of the Wisconsin State Journal. Whenwe come back, we'll talk more about
the Badger bad Badgers coming into periodnumber two. And much more, and

(55:30):
then Peb and Greene will get thepuck dropped ready for you for period number
two. So don't go anywhere. We will be right back. Wisconsin one,
Saint Clouds State one. This isthe Badger Women's hockey intermission report,
presented by Goodman's Jewelers, the DiamondStore of Madison, Wisconsin Women's Hockey.

(55:52):
It's presented by Goodman's Jewelers, theDiamonds Store of Medicine. Goodman's Jewelers a
destination he didn't worth Wi Chi attwo twenty State Street, and we're back
here at Lebon Noah Clark, ToddMaleski getting ready for the start of period
number two. This is the BadgerWomen's hockey intermission report for Zeebai Goodman's Jewelers.

(56:15):
Wisconsin won. Saint Cloud State one. Kelly golver Tenco getting the goal
for the Badgers. On the otherside for Saint Cloud State, Alis Sorrial
getting the goal for the Huskies.Back and forth battle and Todd looking at
the second period from last night. It kind of was really and it kind

(56:35):
of was really owned by Wisconsin.Nineteen shots to eight four Wisconsin and the
Badgers eighteen saves from Jojo Chobach lastnight as well. The big thing for
the the big thing for the teamfor Saint Cloud state seventeen faceoffs one to
Wisconsin's nine. That was really akey for them to keep this game really
close. Yeah, and that's itgoes back to when the team's played in

(56:59):
Novamber. Saint Cloud was really goodon faceoffs in that series too, and
they're they're not great overall. Iwas looking it up yesterday, Wisconsin's the
best team in the country for faceoffs. Saint Cloud is I think thirtieth of
forty four coming into yesterday, andso it didn't make a whole lot of
sense to me. But sometimes matchupsjust work out where you put this center

(57:20):
against this center and they have abetter chance. And I think that's that's
something of how things have worked outa little bit in this series so far
and back in November too, becausethat really helps Saint Cloud be able to
control some more parts of the game. Winning the face off at least gives
you maybe a few seconds where you'renot under pressure, and the Badgers,

(57:43):
you know, when they win faceoffs, they bring the pressure fast. So
Saint claud needs to keep doing thatif they have a chance, and if
the Badgers can win a few more, that delivers more you know, end
zone time if you're winning it inthe offensive zone, and a quicker route
out if you're in the defensive zone. So that that was a big thing
yesterday in those first two periods, and the Batters did turn it round in
the third end and overtime, wonall three face offs in overtime which led

(58:04):
to them basically having possession the entiretime, and then the KK Harvey getting
the winner there for the Badgers, and it was really impressive how KK Harvey
got that go. I mean, that was really gutsy of her to take
that shot. Even nonetheless, thebig thing I also think too Wisconsin couple
defensive breakdowns in that first period thatwe saw today. They've got to clean
it up a little bit on defense. But other than that, they haven't

(58:27):
really given Saint Claus State too manygood looks, which you've already said before,
but still you can't have that happeningwith this young team. Yeah,
the Badgers need to clean it up. Quicker out of his own, more
units of five, getting the buckout of his own. We'll be right
back for the start of period numbertwo. Pe the ingredient will get that
all set for you. Wisconsin one, Saint claud State one. This is

(58:49):
bad women's hockey percent of Bye goodMen's Jewelers The Diamonds Store of Madison underway
in the second period nineteen fifty remainingin the period, both teams had both
strength tied and won. As theplay continues back down to the Badger zone

(59:13):
on the far boards, Wisconsin hascurled out along with Hall and Eden,
and the Hoskis turn and they tryto work it in front of the Badger
net. Zimmerman is out with Lyndand Henderson and it's going to be dumped
back in behind McNaughton and McNaughton gettinghelp as they move it out of the
zone. Coming up Ice on theright wing is Eden, who flipped it

(59:36):
down in the corner and chasing afterit, and the Hoskis will turn and
play at the center. Ice brokenup there. Wilgrin and Potter paired together
defensively driven back down on the Huskyzone trying to chase it down as Lynn
Lynn flipped it around on the farside, moving it up Ice trying to
pick up the lead. Was gentryBadgers try to forced to play and do

(01:00:00):
and we'll turn and come out oftheir own zone. Rink wide on the
pass the Sims. Sims comes inof the line and there's a backhander by
O'Brien, went through the crease andwide and shot through the crease again.
Badgers try to maintain possession of thepuckets loose in the neutral zone on the

(01:00:20):
near side, and it's Surreal whopicked it up. She got the goal
of the game earlier. Badgers backin and they try to play it with
the line of the wheeler along withO'Brien and Sims. Misconnection on that pass
there in front of the net, play along the boards in the near side,
played to the blue line of Wisconsincoming in over the line and pulling

(01:00:45):
up Ferreal with a shot. Whenwhy of the goal good Badgers try to
chop it out of the zone pickedup by Sims. Simms comes in over
the line on the far circle, moving with the puck behind the net,
but the Hoskies will break it upto bring it out, holding it in
as Edwards off on the play Wisconsin, there's a drive and that was fired

(01:01:06):
by Edwards a little high played downback in behind that pressure there rue Vou
with it, plays it out overto center ice. Edwards breaks that up,
play on the pass ahead that wentto Potter and going back over to
control it that santic Annick behind thatout of the Hosky's looking for help to

(01:01:28):
clear it out of the zone.Comes to center ice on the near wing
and over the line. Zimmerman withit off on the pass moving it in.
There's a shot in down the padand the save is made by McNaughton.
Nice saved by Eva. There gooddefensive shift by Sheila Edwards out there.
Eight saves for the Wisconsin goaltender inthe first period, twelve for Saint

(01:01:52):
Cloud. Face OMPs were nine apieceand the shots thirteen to nine. The
edge to the Badgers face off ofthe draw hopped over the stick of Larson,
comes back out over the center icein the neutral zone. Wisconsin as
a forward line now out of percardalong with Edwards and Gorbatanko, and play

(01:02:16):
coming down the boards on the nearside, back in behind the net.
Wisconsin trying to hold the puck inthe zone, but it's played back to
the Badger blueline and we're at fullstrength here. In the second period with
sixteen forty eight remitting current shots arethirteen to nine. Curl with it,

(01:02:37):
banks it around the boards and comingup bice. This is Harvey off on
the break on the lead to EdenEiden with a shot and she tried to
play it through the hall in frontof the net, all with a puck
just inside the line over the Wilgren. Wilgrin tried to tip it toward the
goal, but it's going to beback handed out and cleared by Lynn,

(01:02:57):
reintercepted by the Badgers, comes inover the line, pulls the trigger shot
deflected. Aiden got her own rebound, goes behind the NAT trying to work
it loose. Oski's back in theirown zone. Badgers banging around the boards,
eating with a backhander in the slot. Cover up and the save as
made. Now I was hoping somebodyelse could jump on that, and it

(01:03:20):
had scored out from a hole ofit. She covered it up quickly.
What did you talk about for adjustmentsdown there in the first period intermission,
Just you know, getting pucks through, getting them in deep and to the
net, you know, not allowingthem to block as many be fully aware
of what's going on around you, because they're pretty physical team. You saw
Wilgrin get rubbed in the boards thereand just be aware of what's going on

(01:03:42):
around you. Face off coming upto the left side below up back down
on the zone of the Hoskies.Badgers at full strength. They set it
up on the draw and there's adrive when Guada the net was fired by
sims Sim's and O'Brien out of theforward line along with Wheeler. Badgers hold

(01:04:02):
it in. This is Wilgrin atthe point, shot in traffic came through
back to the point setting it up. There is Potter, Badger's down in
the corner. Potter's got the pucket. The point slides it across over to
Wilgren. Wilgrin's brink. Wide playpicked up and Wisconsin will control it.

(01:04:23):
Potter down in behind the app fifteentwenty nine a remedicant to period. The
Hoskies will turn and look to comeout of their own zone with it.
Badgers with a little for checking pressurehere, but they handle it at center
Ice coming in over the line tryingto skate it down his gentry gentry along
with Cireo trying to control the play. The Badgers look to bring it out

(01:04:45):
of their own zone down on towardthe blue line. Badgers lead it out
on the brake coming it in.Here's Sims pulling the trigger that's pushed wide
of the net. Then play backto the point tipped out towards center ice,
knocking it down his Kaufman and he'lldump it in the corner and Wisconsin

(01:05:06):
will clear coming out of their ownzone on the pass ahead and moving get
in on the drop. Edwards witha drive and that's blocked. Good pressure
by Edwards per Card there. Yeah, nice combination there for a good shot
on net and Wisconsin controls it stillin the husky zone moving it around,
and that's per Card with a shotthat may have hit the pipe, I'm

(01:05:29):
not sure. Edwards with a driveshe had the upper right hand corner,
big rebound there earlier which you couldhave converted on. And Wisconsin with some
pressure there's another shot blocked in trafficand cleared out of the zone. The
hoskis go. That's enough of thatand they clear it all the way down
the ice and that's an icing call. We've created some good chances there getting

(01:05:51):
the puck to the net. She'snot going to control all the rebounds,
but jump on those fourteen oh nineare remaining in the second period, fifteen
to nine the shots the Badger's averagingover forty shots a game. We're tied
in one. Here from Lebond Arenaout of the ice is haul Eden and

(01:06:15):
curl down. Play continues at theblue line of Wisconsin as the Badgers try
to hold his zone, but comingup with it as Hull All will drive
it back down on the Husky zone. It rims all the way around over
the curl down in the corner onthe play Eden over to try and pick
it up. Badgers work the nearwing in a one to one game out

(01:06:39):
on top and jungles with it.Will play it again behind the at as
Wisconsin with the play deep in thezone off on the far boards, the
Hoskies will turn and they'll look tobring it out and controlling it is Annik
and it gets help and they'll dumpit down in the corner back in the
Wisconsin zone and we'll have an icingcalled in the face off coming up back

(01:07:03):
down on the zone of Saint CloudState. Yeah, regroup here with an
offensive zone faceoff, see what wecan do with it. I think we're
gonna have O'Brien taking the draw.Yeah, we're creating a few chances here.
Let's build on that. Huh.You bet. They've added a couple

(01:07:25):
of assists on the goal that wasscored the even strength goal by Saint Cloud
State in the first period. Ferrellgets one and so does Kaufman and played
down O'Brien with it with a backhander, went through the crease and wide to
the point, and Saint Cloud Statewill turn and they'll dump it down in
the corner, back down on theBadger zone. Wilgrin will come back to

(01:07:48):
set it up for Wisconsin on thenear wing, looking to bring it out
for check bear and a penalty isgoing to give the Badger's a man advantage
here, Mark, Yeah, yougot to gotta make a pretty valid effort
there to bring down Wilgren. She'sa strong hockey player and she was basically
tackled all all she was missing therewas Baylor twine or you know, a

(01:08:10):
last suit to bring her down evenmore so, we'll to have the power
play. See what we can dowith that. Hopefully we can make it
count. Badgers. They've got alot of firepower for the power play,
including Curl who has twenty two powerplay goals in her career of Wisconsin.

(01:08:31):
God like to see you're get anotherone today. Face off to the right
side and Curl is out of theice, so Brian is out and there's
a shot and blocked in traffic tryingto get it towards the net. Harvey's
also out of the ice with Curl. Badgers work it around the wing.
They've got Sims out of the playas well. In fact, Sims has

(01:08:53):
the puck inside the blow line.Sims with it, little given go went
through the crease around over to aObrien. O'Brien with it, and there's
a backhander by Eden that was highand wide. Badger's try to hold it
in. Curl with it. Triedto play it around over to Eden Aiden
with a buck down on the corneron the left side. Move it around

(01:09:14):
off on the wing. Badger's stillwith a man advantage. Play it through
traffic. Wisconsin holds it in withHarvey. Here's Harvey moving it in shot
the goal. She ripped it intothe upper corner of the NAT first second
goal of the weekend or fifth ofthe year, and was conching leads at
two to one. What a rocketshe just started coming in from the right

(01:09:36):
point. She continued to walk itin just below the dot rips a wrist
shot left handed over the long sideof the blocker glove of the goaltender for
a goal up high. Nice niceshot fight, Harold Harvey. Beautiful goal.
Wow, beautiful goal. So theBadgers take the lead after trailing one

(01:10:02):
to nothing in the first period. But now they've got the lead on goals
that have been scored and Wisconsin.Gorbatanco gets one tonight and Harvey gets one
tonight. Lynn had gone to thepenalty box on a hooking call there,

(01:10:23):
turning coming back up ice Wisconsin inthe neutral zone. They come in over
the line. This is Percard witha drive. See if that puts a
little more ginger and step in theBadger's here. That's what I'm open here.
Give us some life here. Theyaverage about five goals a game,
so you know they're capable of scoringas they get going and coming back into

(01:10:45):
the line, controlling it down inthe corner, comes around in the play
on the pass over to try andset it up the Huskies with a drive
high and wide of the goal.Wisconsin works the near wing to try and
bring it out, going back overto control it as Murphy behind the net.
Badger's in their own zone and it'sgoing to be held in there by

(01:11:05):
Sunderland. Sunderland on the break andthe shot fired by Kaufman just wadded the
net. Good pressure there by thisline of Feral Kaufman and Sunderland US Saint
Cloud State Badgers bring it out overthe center ice and the near wing.
Oski's regroup at their own blue lineand back they come into the Wisconsin line.

(01:11:28):
Ruvu with it, Ruvo moving itin shot kick save. Oh,
what a nice stack pad saved there. She had that right leg fully extended
to put the kebash on that shotright in the crease. Wow, that
looked good. Great Seve ten thirtyfive remainning. We're near the halfway mark
of the game. Wisconsin with agoal lead, laid back in behind the

(01:11:50):
Wisconsin net, Badgers start out oftheir own zone up the far wing to
center ice, tipped in toward thegoal, swept down in the corner.
Badger's over to try and pick itup, and they'll control it on the
right wing back to the point onthe plate of wilgrin cross ice. On
that pass, there's a shot rightout in front and the save is made

(01:12:11):
by a Hola. You know thereagain. She picks it clean, hangs
onto it. You know, shegives up a rebound. We've got Britta
Curl right there on the doorstep. You know she'll make it count if she
gets one to work with. O'Briengets an assist. Done that last goal.
That's her second of the night, and also getting an assist was Eden

(01:12:33):
And for Eden it's her twentieth ofthe year. Yeah, great play and
play. There's a scramble in frontof the nad of the Hasting or Saint
Cloud Steak coming around over to tryand control the puck, and it's going
to be played to neutral ice.Wisconsin trying to pick it up and coming

(01:12:57):
over is Lind with it. Glynntrying to control it along the boards near
side, looks for the play goesdeep in the zone in the pass intended
for Zimmerman turned away and back comethe Badgers. Hall coming up Ice in
of the line and Hall fired it. That shot was partially blocked and the
Huskies will come back and bring itout of their own zone. They work

(01:13:20):
it up the far wing and it'sdriven by Henderson down in behind the Wisconsin
net banged around the boards, Wisconsinturns tries to bring it out. Seems
like it's more open here in thesecond period. Yeah, it is.
It looks like a little faster paced, more rhythm to it coming up ice.

(01:13:41):
It's played back down in the corner. Nine oh five, remitting in
the second period. During our secondintermission, Bill Brofie'll be joining us.
Broke's been around the WCHA for along time, involved in writing and broadcasting
and involved with the WCCHA, andwe'll get the update on what's going on
in Coylie Hockey for men and women. Always good to hear you grow.

(01:14:05):
And there's a backhander traffic in frontof that and play back of the net.
Wisconsin trying to hold the zone andthe Hoskies will move it up ice
going back. This is Jungles withit. Jungles on the rush, comes
ahead on the play, sims inover the line off to Potter. They're
wheeler, pardon me, and theplay comes to the point on the near

(01:14:28):
side. Badger sims with it,sims down in the corner on the near
boards. We're down to eight pointfifteen remitting in the second period, and
it's Wisconsin trying to hold the zone, but it's going to be cleared back
up. Ice attempted to pass intothe slot, just nobody there. Murphy
with it, played it around theboards on the far wing. That's taken

(01:14:50):
away by Farrell. Farrell getting somehelp from Annik, a defenseman, plays
a lot of time on the numberone pair, and it goes down in
the corner going back Wisconsin, AvaMurphy will look the for the play to

(01:15:12):
Edwards to come out of the zoneper card Fork trying to pick it up,
and it slides in and the saveis made by McNaughton. That's not
like Sheila. She tried to clearthe zone there and put it right on
a Husky player stick there. Youdon't see that very often. This is
Badger Women's Hockey presented by Goodman Jewelersthe Diamond Store of Madison for a two

(01:15:45):
to one the Badger's late at thesummary of the game, there's only been
three penalties, two on Saint Cloudfor four minutes, one on the Badgers
for two minutes. The shots ongoals so far in this game are twenty
to twelve and the saves are eighteeneleven. Face offs are thirteen twelve play

(01:16:09):
along the boards on the far side. Wisconsin will work it through center ice
on the lead and Edwards tried toget help there to move it in the
zone, but it's turned back bythe Huskies. Rovu with it, ProVu
with it, and she turns andplays it back down in behind the net.
Wisconsin will come out of their ownzone and it's played back to the

(01:16:32):
blue line, and that's Ross Rosslooking for help as they play it to
the Wisconsin line moving it in.This is Henderson with a drive they see
and it's played back down in thecorner round the boards on the far side.
Wilgrin with it turned and tried tolead it to Edwards. We're down
to six thirty eight remaining here ina two to one second period. Twenty

(01:16:56):
to thirteen now in shots in thegame. Badger's with the lead by a
goal. Ross goes back. She'sa junior out of Spirit River, Alberta
and coming in over the line, moving it toward the slot, trying to
set up to play with Zimmerman flippedit behind the net. Lynd is there

(01:17:19):
and Harvey back to try to workit out of the zone. Played to
the point, but it goes allthe way back down on the Badger's zone.
Yeah, we cleared it, orthey did for US and Wisconsin trying
to pick it up at the blueline of Saint Clouds State. Laid deep
in the zone. Badgers go backand Wheeler bumps it around the boards.

(01:17:42):
Badgers pick it up. They'll comeout of the zone and on the lead
with it is Hall. Hall tothe blue line of the Hoskies. Carried
it in on the near wing.Hall goes all the way behind the goal,
comes around on the pass on theleft side over the sims, just
inside the blue line, and shetried to backhanded toward the net and it's
cleared by Saint Cloud's State. Scrambleforward its center Ice Edwards tried to back

(01:18:08):
handed in front of the bench andit's picked up Saint cloud We'll move it
in shot Ooo. That almost gotthrough and it went just wide by Gentry.
It was a nice shot by theHuskies and it's played back in the
Wisconsin zone and it's blocked there byMcNaughton and she decides to hold on with
five oh five remaining in the secondperiod. How would you analyze this one?

(01:18:30):
Well, she was initially gonna breakthe puck out pass it to a
defense, but she saw the twoHuskies bearing down on the net and wisely
chose to freeze the puck. Overallin the period, you think, uh,
not bad, not bad. Youknow we're generating a few chances.
It's tough to get him through tothe net. A lot of block shots
face off coming up to the rightside, back in the Badger's zone and

(01:18:53):
the near wing in the neutral zone. Larsen Across on the play to Annik.
Annick plays it in be behind thenet. Badgers will turn and try
to bring it out. Eden's outis one of the forwards on the line
and moved it up. Ice,Curl and Hall on that unit as well.
Back defensively, it's Wilgrin and Potterplayed to the point and Eden with

(01:19:15):
it down on the corner on theleft side, back in behind the Curl
Curl works the far wing with helpfrom Eden. Play comes out of the
zone with Saint Cloud State moving itto center. Ice working their way to
the Badger line and they backhanded downin the far corner. There to pick
it up is Potter. Potter onthe lead to Eden. Aiden flipped it

(01:19:38):
back handed down on the far wingbeyond the end line and the Badgers set
it up behind it at or pardonme us, he's set it up.
Badgers try to hold it in withGorbatanco and it's going to be played down
deep in the zone of Wisconsin. We're at the four minute mark and we'll
have an icy coast. Yeah.Good for checking by Gorbatanko there, making

(01:20:04):
it difficult for the Huskies to breakit out of his own. How's the
injury situation for the Badgers? Notbad right now? Not bad? Of
course we still have Wasnowitz is outunfortunately with his shoulder. She won't Yeah,
hopefully she'll be ready next week, but might not be until we play
Minnesota and to play in front ofthe net of the Huskies. Badgers back

(01:20:29):
it out to center rise. Badgersplay at Bamigi State next weekend and then
come home to take on the Minnesotaand Ohio State. At the point on
the near side with it as HarveyHarvey off on the play over to Edwards
shot. Oh, she just wentin. She just missed the upper corner
of an apt play set up andthe Badgers in front and curl was they're

(01:20:55):
trying to pick up the rebounder Gorbatancoat center Rice Boy a couple of good
scoring opportunities there, just missed thecorners. You're getting traffic right in front
of that net. Good net frontpresence there. And it's played at center
ice and driven back down on thezone in the corner back per Card is
out with her. They're going tochange up though right now, and it's

(01:21:18):
played back in front of the Badgerbench. It was played by Murphy over
there along the wall and Murphy tryingto free the puck. Coming over to
try and help out is O'Brien andSims. They let him play there as
they try to poke their sticks inthat pile and bring it out of there.

(01:21:39):
Wisconsin in the neutral zone, we'llplay it ahead, trying to skate
it down as O'Brien, she assoles. After the puck play comes to Sims
went over the glass and out ofplay, and we'll be back. This
is was Wisconsin Women's hockey presented byGoodman Jewelers The Diamond Store of Madison,

(01:22:03):
June seventeen. Remaining in the period, it's two to one the Badger's goals
by Gorbatanco, Gorbatanco getting her sixthof the year, and Harvey getting her
fourth of the year at seven pointfifty one of this period, and I
think we've got a penalty coming out. We're gonna Curl's gonna get two minutes

(01:22:24):
for I don't know, checking orthrows her hands up, like, what
did I do that? Hell, the Husky player went into the into the
wall, so I don't know whatit's going to be called yet. The
Curl will get two minutes, sothe face off with the man advantage will
come up for the Huskies back inthe zone of the Badger sell out crowd

(01:22:47):
on him. They're pretty quiet, aren't they. Yeah, we got to
score another goal to bring him backto life. I think, find a
way to fire him up, huh, get him going here a bit,
it's the best way. It's gorygoal. Oh, base off to the
right side and Wisconsin tries to bringit out of the zone, but it's
held in by lind laid it backto Gentry at the point Gentry controlling the

(01:23:12):
puck. Often the play it goesto Rovu and there's a shot by Gentry
covering it up in front, andit's cleared and Rovu with it, plays
it around on the far side. She brings it out on top between the
dots, comes to the left wing. There's a shot fired from the point.
It was gentry, but it waspushed away back in behind the net,

(01:23:33):
and Harvey tips it around the boardslooking for help to try and clear
Oski's on the near wing in thecorner work. The puck loose brought out
by lind Lynn comes back to Kaufmanat the point, Kaufman controlling it back
to Rovu who fired at wat ofthe net, trying to tip it out
in front. There's a drive, puck came loose, a scramble in front

(01:23:56):
of the net, and finally they'regonna stop the play. Yeah, I
was hoping we'd cover that one upbecause again Ava was sprawled out, she
was able to reach it to coverit. Ten players on the ice and
about eight of them are in theblue position. Yeah, laying down in

(01:24:17):
the blue paint, face off, coming up back in the Badger's zone to
the left side of McNaughton as shelooks out from goal, still with a
man advantage, one O four remainingin the penalty time in a two to
one game. Badgers had been averagingalmost five goals per game. They want

(01:24:45):
it in game one of this seriesby a score of two to one.
Get it in overtime along the boardson the near side. Wisconsin will bank
it out, Edwards picks it up. Here's a break Edward's going in all
alone, back ender. Oh,she missed the corner of the nast almost

(01:25:05):
scored a shorthander on a breakaway.A little bit down on herself there,
you could see it. She hadthe opportunity but couldn't get it. And
we're down to twenty three seconds formaking the man advantage in a two to
one game. The puck comes andthe Badgers will clear it out of their
own zone. Good job doing thepenalty kill here. Yeah, well,

(01:25:29):
Wilgron really did a great job andwhistle and play stopped at the blue line
of Wisconsin. Oh, Wilgron reallymade a great effort to headman that puck
up up for Leila Edwards to takeoff on that breakaway. She had a
good idea, just a little wideon that backhand shot. Boy, that
could have helped a lot. Uh, especially late in the period. You've
met only twenty five seconds are mantingin a period Sirio is on with Gentry

(01:25:57):
and Bowlby and against the Badgers outas the number one unit the Wheeler along
with O'Brien and Simms. That linehas over one hundred points on the ear.
So does the second line with curlHall and Aden. Two lines with
more than one hundred points. That'spretty impressive stuff that's loaded for Bear Badgers

(01:26:20):
on the ear twenty twenty four wins. As we've come to the end of
the second period and it remains atwo to one game, Wisconsin out in
front. Your thoughts on that period, Greeney, Well, they started to
get a few more shots on netas you can see, what is it
twenty two to eighteen now, butwe held them off and it was key

(01:26:41):
to cover that puck after the youknow, multiple shots on net so and
we created some chances. I wishLeila could have buried that shorthander. Yeah,
that would have been nice, littletwo goal cushion. Well, we'll
let you go downstairs. We're goingto take a break here. At the
end of two periods of play shotstwenty two to eighteen, the score is

(01:27:03):
two to one, Wisconsin with thelead. And this is Badger Women's hockey
presented by Goodman Jewelers, The DiamondStore of Madison, we're back in Lebond
Arena on the campus of the UWwere after two periods of play, it

(01:27:27):
is the Badger women's hockey team, leading Saint Cloud's state by a score of
two to one and joining us.Now, gosh, bro how many years
have we been friends? We goback a long way. Yeah, I
got Madison in seventy eight. Seventyeight, Wow, ran and toes years.

(01:27:48):
Broth has been involved as a sportseditor, writer, broadcaster, works
with the Wccha you've been around higherand even before you came to his you
were involved in hockey right now?Is that covered? Hockey? Minnesota?
Delivered bet? Guys Hendrickson a formercoach. He died last week, So

(01:28:08):
he's the first coach I covered atUMD. But yeah, I've been around
the league almost fifty years. There'stough to believe. Let's start, Brofan,
We'll break it down a little bithere in Madison. Hey, it's
a pretty good year for hockey, isn't it. Let's talk about the women
first. What do you see inthis club? Well, they're a good
team, and when Caroln Harvey's healthy, they're a lot better team. I
mean, you've seen it. TheLazier and it's good to have you back

(01:28:30):
doing bat appreciate it. I meanyou and Greeney. I'm sure we're gonna
have a lot of fun the restaway because they're gonna have some big games
and the fans will benefit by hearingyou guys do them. But no,
they're a better team when Harvey's healthy. And I don't know how healthy she
was after getting hurt in the firsthalf of the year. But big goal,
yes, they pretty goal, Yes, they to win the game.
Nice power to play goal there. She makes their power play better and why

(01:28:51):
they clicked one out every three timesall year. But this is a good
team. I mean Ohio State istoo, and they've only got two losses
all season. The Badgers look fourlives. You know, they play here
at the end of the month, and that ought to be a fun series.
Ohio State I think got a bigenough lead that they might win the
league. But I'm pretty sure they'regonna play again in Minneapolis in two weeks

(01:29:13):
the final face off. The leagueplayoff championships are at Rhyter Arena in Minneapolis
March eighth and ninth. And Ireally think I don't think it's hype that
that tournament's better than the Frozen four. I mean they'll be. When the
rankings currently say five the top tenteams in the country play in this league,
you have to assume four those fivewill be it Ritter in March.
And there's usually pretty competitive games, pretty exciting games. And if you like

(01:29:39):
this sport, that's the place tobe. And Bro, when we talk
about Harvey a little bit, andobviously you've been around the game on awful
long time, she really is somethingspecial, is she not. I've I've
said to people if you were togo to a hockey game and you didn't
know her name, but you wereto that there's a player on the ice

(01:30:01):
that is very calendar. Is thatan unfair evaluation? Because when you watch
her for about five six seven minutes, you go, that's the one right
down there. Well, she canskate, I mean yeah, that's what
makes her stand aers their skating ability. And I'm sure Greeney can address this
more than anybody sees her every dayat practice, and I mean Marcus said

(01:30:23):
the whole level of the team risesat practice when they see her out there
about their competitiveness, but their abilityof what you're reference thing is, but
she can really stage, you canhandle the puck. I mean, you
know that she's the best defense. And at the World Tournament last year,
what's that tell you? That's playinggood against good and and she stood out
there, So she certainly does here. But I think she's getting healthier again.

(01:30:45):
I think that knee injury before Chriswas just scared her as much as
iang else. And until you getthe confidence that you can go back and
do things that you'll warn you cando, until you believe that in your
head, it's stuff to rehab thosethings. But she looks a lot better
this weekend, and they're a betterteam with She's a hundred posessed. She
wasn't All American last year, thesecond one in Wisconsin women's hockey, the

(01:31:06):
other being Megan Hunter. To pickup that on her as a freshman,
Bill, do you think in away what Mark has done here? Seven
national titles, He's won over sixhundred games. Fact I looked it up.
When he wins seventeen more games ifyou take Bob Johnson's total in his
it's a thousand victories between those twoguys and ten national titles. This program

(01:31:31):
has been very, very successful,But not question I mean, it's an
unbelievable story really, the way thatyou know, Bob had such an impact
on the sport period, both incollege and going on in the NHL,
and then to see his kid havethe success as a player, and you
know, I mean, Tony andGrenado and I Houston discusses are a better

(01:31:54):
part to ever play the college gamethan Mark Johnson as a player. And
now people forget that because of sayshe's had behind the bench, which is
remarkable with the seven national championships, and you know, I don't know how
many more years he's going to doit, but he'll even mark up there
for others the chase, and Ithink it's going to take a while to

(01:32:14):
catch him. He's he's a heckof a coach and really a great representative
for this university. Well let's goto the other end of the building and
fifteen thousand plus were there last nightto watch the Badgers and the Minnesota Golden
Gophers. And Hastings has done awonderful job with Wisconsin hockey as man,
no question. You know, Idon't think anybody could have predicted that.

(01:32:35):
I mean, I didn't think i'dsee a sell off for a while here,
but the sign was jumping last night. They were good hockey club.
Those were two really good teams thatplayed two really good games at the Cold
Center Friday and Saturday when Minnesota Wisconsin'split six points. But no, Hoasty's
done a nice job. He inheritedsome good players. The goaltender has been
remarkable from what we saw of McClellanlast year when he transferred in for mercers

(01:33:00):
say percentages of eighty four said atall this year he's maybe the best goaltender
in the country. But he's backbonetoo. You know, a team that
is his structure defensively, so differentlythan what we've seen in the last few
years. There they play hard.I mean they're stingy defensively, and they've
played they've played well together. ButI mean you've got a credit has things
have changing the culture and making peoplebe cognizant to play two hundred feet and

(01:33:25):
they're good in their own end.And again, when you've got a goaltender
that's played like Willy McClellan has andthen they've bought a penalty killing you,
if it's a good thing. Ithink they've better improved the power playoff.
They really want to contend for anational championship. But they're a very good
hockey team and they'll be playing inMarch. Bill, You've been around sports
for a long long time. It'sa crazy world of sports in college now

(01:33:46):
with all the things that are goingon with the NIL and all of that.
From your perspective watching hockey, andwhat concerns you is you look ahead
of anything about the future of thecollege game and in the world we're in
today. Well, it's tough topredict what it's going to look like,
but I think it's going to bedifferent if we reconvene here in three years.

(01:34:10):
I fear that the opponent today,I don't see how Saint Cloud's gonna
be able to compete on either ofthe men's or the women's side. I
mean, it's gonna, you know, in all sports, it's going to
become the power conferences controlling things inthis sport in particular. I mean,
the Saint Cloud's and the Bmidges andthe Mancatoes and the Duluze just don't have
the resources that the three Big tenschools in this league have and Wisconsin,

(01:34:32):
Minnesota, Ohio stay not just interms of support staff and facilities, but
you know, you can get twentyfour thousand dollars if you complete four years
of studies and you can go toclass. They don't offer that type of
money that's called Allston money after acourt case. But again, there's so
many differences in resources between the BigTen schools and the other five schools in

(01:34:56):
this conference. So I don't know, I mean specifically talking about this sport.
I think on the men's side,it's the same way. I mean,
I think Hockey East the Night andthe Big Ten Conference shure the big
boys. The other ones are Ithink it to turn in the developmental leagues
for them. You can go cherrypick players. I mean, if I
were some of those schools in thefree major conferences, I'll be looking at

(01:35:18):
video during the week saying there's someplayers out there that could help us.
They can transfer without penalty and gotnil money to offer them. So I
think it's changed in that. Imean, you see it in football with
all the transfers and the way coachesutilize the portal. You're gonna see it
more and more in this sport. And you know, I think that the

(01:35:41):
leagues that we saw when we weredoing games together long ago are just a
thing of the past and you canfring your hands and be mowing. I
liked it better then and I didtoo, me too. But things are
different and they're going to change evenmore. I was just gonna say,
if fifteen years ago you and Ihad have been sitting and Sam he's up
in de luth getting ready to havea pizza, and said, here's where

(01:36:03):
college hockey is at this point, meaning right now, we just said,
oh, no way, it ain'tgonna happen. Right Well, I mean
again, you know, the NCAA'sgot a longer losing streak than the Washington
General's in court, and so youknow, and I think there's there's a
couple free, more significant cases inthe courts right now that could give players

(01:36:26):
even more rights and change the gameeven further. And who knows what's gonna
happen, but I think it's safeto say there'll be more changes in the
next few years. Well, inthe meantime, just enjoy it, right
absolutely. I mean that's a goodproduct. Twenty two hundred people here both
days. It says sports healthy inthis town. As you say, they
sold out last night at the ColeCenter. These are two hockey teams.
If they're fun to foul, andit's good to have you back at the

(01:36:47):
right I appreciate it. It's awonderful opportunity and that happened because of Brian
Posik, and we're gonna have somefun with it. Just thinking a couple
of weeks you get to come andwatch Minnesota and Ioas State in Wisconsin play
hockey. Well, Minnesota's got alittle Abby Murphy and she's as fun to
watch as anybody the league and isfeisty and anybody in the sport. So

(01:37:10):
she's a I don't think the Gophersare as good as they've been, but
she is. She is fun towatch. And the Gophers coming here and
see what red white, and it'llbe a formidable series. Ohio State it's
a darn good team. I mean, heck, you know they won the
league last year they played the Badgersof the national title game. That'll be
a heck a series and again Ithink they'll play again in March. I
guess they should put in a plugyou want tickets to car Ritter w c

(01:37:32):
h a dot com slash final faceoff. I mean, it's a it's
a bargain at the prices you getfor sports these days, and it really
is good hockey. And I guaranteeyou that tournament will have four of the
best teams in the country. Thereher motion. I like the Badger chances
too. That little promotion is somethingelse Bill is involved with with the WHA,
thank you my friend for stopping by, Phoebe, keep greading out of

(01:37:56):
trouble. I will do that. And uh, this is Badger women Hockey
presented by Goodman Jewelers, the DiamondStore of Madison. Back at the Bonderina
along with Mark Greenhall, I'm PaulBrown ready for the third period to get

(01:38:16):
underway, Badgers leading it by ascore of two to one. Shots on
goal twenty two for the Badgers, eighteen for Saint Cloud State. If the
Badgers would win tonight, it'd havea total of fifty four points in the
wcj Ohio State has sixty one,Minnesota has fifty. Bulldogs of Minnesota duluthe

(01:38:40):
to thirty five, Saint Cloud thirtythree, Minnesota State man Cato with thirteen,
Bamtchie State with ten, and SaintThomas with a total of eight.
And the opening lineup for the Badgerscurl along with Hall and Eden and it
goes to the blowline of the Huskies. Take it away by Zimmerman and they'll

(01:39:03):
drive it in on goaltender McNaughton andthe save is made. After two periods,
seventeen saves for McNaughton and twenty savesfor a hole lock back the goaltender.
They rotate just like Wisconsin, basedoff coming up to the right side

(01:39:25):
of McNaughton, back in the Badgerzone and the play set up on the
far side by Zimmerman off in thewing. On the play, Badgers will
work it up Ice on the farboards flipped it out over to center.
Ice, Curl tried to pick itup, turning with it, Henderson looking
for help, and it's driven backdown to the Badger's zone behind the goal.

(01:39:47):
The Badgers start out in a hurry, eating on the off wing,
comes in over the line on thenear side, setting it up a little
give and go there Curl moving towardthe net. Badgers will play it on
the w wing. It's going tobe taken away potential two to one one
the other way as Gentry tried tolead it to bowlby Badgers in their own

(01:40:08):
zone, work the near boards curledwith it, looking for help to clear
Badgers to the blue line of SaintCloud State. Wilgrin skates it down along
the boards, flipped around on thewing on the far side. O'Brien tried
to hold it and a Wheeler comesover to play it off the wall and
hold his zone. It's picked upby Sims. Sims goes behind the net,

(01:40:30):
comes right out in front centered thepuck and it's played down in the
corner on the left side. Theywork it along the wall back to the
point Wisconsin controls Murphy with it.Murphy between the dots back under went wide
of the goal. That one gotthrough, but just why Badgers in front
of their bench will play it backdown on the Husky zone. Eighteen twenty

(01:40:53):
four, remaining in the third period, two to one Wisconsin and the play
back in the Whiskey Jhnsen zone. Both teams at full strength. Badgers come
back in over the line. O'Brientried a little give and go there with
Wheeler, but it was turned backby the Huskies. Yeah you can't force
it, you know. Edwards aroundon the playover the Sims Sims is tied

(01:41:16):
up and moving it up ice Badger'srink. Want in the pass to O'Brien.
O'Brien slides it in behind the goaland there to pick it up his
Larsen Larson on the brake, getsome help in the near wing. It's
played to the Badger line and tippedby Farreald all the way around and we'll
have an icing calldjustments you guys talkedabout there, sir, well, just

(01:41:40):
make making sure that they don't shipthe puck past our defenseman. Make sure
we keep our f three or ourthird forward high. We just don't want
to give them an odd man rush. That's one thing we want to do.
And we knew they're going to comeout hard here. And it's Edwards
with it. Edwards tried to passit between the dots, but it goes
all the way back in the Wisconsinzone and Harvey you'll go back to pick

(01:42:03):
it up. Harvey on the rushcoming out of the zone, controlling the
puck, leading it ahead and theplay down back deep in the corner.
Gorbatanco with it. Gorbatanco works thewing, try to go to the point
and play at center ice. PerCard will set it up looking for help,

(01:42:24):
plait it around over the jungle andWisconsin regroups on the near board.
They come through center ice per cardtrying to give it to Gorbatanco play at
the blue line of Wisconsin. Littlefour check there, causing some pressure by
Myers of Saint Cloud's day. Badgerswork it up Ice. Here's Curl coming
in over the line, coming inoff the right wing. Centered it nobody

(01:42:46):
there. Badgers will hold it in. They'll work it deep in the zone.
Eaten with it down in the cornerof the long with the Badger's hull
as they play it to the point. Badgers back wilgri and back defensively took
that away, but gave it back, and it's played back down to the
Badger zone. Potter back and lookingfor help to come out of the zone.

(01:43:10):
It's center Rice Wilgrin with it.Wilgrin mangled it off the boards on
the near side. It comes toHall circles at center ice in over the
Hosky line. Fired a shot. When that play is stopped with sixteen fifteen
remaining, that came off Hall stickand I lost sight of it. It
really hopped up high, I guess, so did I I wasn't sure where

(01:43:32):
When I know I don't know ifit hits something on the way in or
what, or if she just shotat that high good composure by Potter earlier.
You know, a freshman bringing itup when she's got fresh hunner.
I like to see that, Simsalong with O'Brien and Wheeler. It's picked
up there by Rovo and it's uhSaint Cloud State moving it up byce Cereo

(01:43:55):
comes in over the line. Cereowith a shot right on and looking back.
You never want to see a goaltenderlooking back into the goal. That
normally means trouble. Yea checking thatfirst. Yeah, you don't want to
be living by that rule. Butit was not in the net, Thank
you nice saved by Ava and thenshe lost sight of it for a minute

(01:44:16):
afterward and found it just in time, sixteen oh one remaining in the third
period. Two to one. Badgersgoals have been scored by Gorbatanko, her
sixth of the year, and alsoby Harvey, her fourth of the year.
Harvey with two goals on the weekend. Badgers won two to one last

(01:44:41):
night, and overtime Man O'Brien withit played it rink wide on the right
wing. Sim's trying to hold hiszone, but the Hoskies bring it back
in over the line with it asbowlby down in the corner. Badger's trying
to regroup in their own zone.Nice to e by Murphy and coming up
Byce on the break. This isO'Brien through center ice, off on the
wing, shot kicked out on therebound. Badgers on the wrap around as

(01:45:06):
they couldn't get control of the puckthere. It was Simms who had that
opportunity to wrap it around but justcouldn't control it. Got her own rebound
and almost made do with it,and Wisconsin tried to hold it in,
but it's turned back on the breakby Kaufman in over the line break into
the natis feral. The Badgers lookto try and clear it comes to the

(01:45:29):
point and Wisconsin does break it outto center ice block shot by Gourbatinkle fourteen
fifty nine, remitting in the thirdperiod shots twenty four to twenty two to
one score Badgers and played back downin the corner and Robin Isen calls,
let's take a break. This isBadger Women's Hockey presented by Goodman Jewelers,

(01:45:49):
The Diamond Store of Madison, Masoffwill come up back in the Badger's zone
in the third period. Here Wisconsinwith a slim two to one lead over
Saint Cloud State, who was fifteeneleven and one on the year. The

(01:46:12):
Badgers overall in the year, they'rehaving an outstanding season at twenty three and
four and moving it in, tryingto work between the dots. And they've
also won their last ten games ina row. They had a twelve game
streak to start the year. Comingup Bis and Gentry with it played back,

(01:46:32):
going back, Wisconsin trying to bringit out of their own zone,
and it's played back down on thecorner on the right side. Wisconsin going
back over to control it. Bothteams at full strength. This is fourteen
oh three remaining in the third period. Badgers will turn Curl coming up ice.
Curl comes in over the line.Curl trying to risk her that win.

(01:46:55):
Why of the goal? Badgers haveGarvey out and play. There's a
drive, a goal by Potter.Potter gets her second goal of the year.
She snuck it through that was lostand Wisconsin leads it three to one.
Curl gets a shot on net froma wide angle. Puck bounces straight

(01:47:17):
out Potter hops on it in thehigh slot and rips it for a goal.
Beautiful, beautiful goal by Potter sixfourteen the time of the goal on
the second of the year for Potter, and the Badger's got that little cushion.
We were just talking. A man, tell you that was key scoring
the next goal. Potter answered thebell. Great job by Curl in that

(01:47:43):
shift to create that whole situation rightnow. They've tendatively got it listed with
Hall maybe okay, maybe she tippedit in front of the net. No
kid have to see it. Theycalled pottery there, yeah, and then
play at center eyes. Badgers comeback over to get it in the neutral

(01:48:09):
zone, controlling it. Wheeler comesback into the line. Whaler on the
play. This is Sims and shedrove it wide of the nat layed around
the boards, Wisconsin trying to holdthe zone. Lady Badgers with a three
to one laid here around on thefar side. Wildrin with it. We'll
try to play it down in thecorner and Wisconsin will set it up.

(01:48:32):
This is O'Brien back to the pointon the play, over the Potter and
moving it back on the near side. O'Brien with a shot and that went
up over the glass and out ofplayer nice saved by a hola. There
she squared up and took it rightoff her chest there near her right shoulder
on that shot from O'Brien. Howdo you feel mcnaughtoner's plate tonight. Uh,

(01:48:57):
she's come up big when we've neededto. I'd like to see her.
We discussed it even you know, don't sprawl if you don't have to.
If you can't cover the puck, try and remain on your feet,
at least on your knees so you'reready for the next shot if need be.
But I like what she's been doing, coming up big what she has
to and we've got to break inthe action. This is Badger Women's Hockey
presented by Goodman Jewelers, the DiamondStore of Madison, Greenhall and Paul Brown

(01:49:27):
from Lebond Arena. Badger's getting readyfor the face off Gorba Tanko and the
draw comes back to the point onthe near side played by Murphy to the
near corner. Badger's at the pointEdwards will hold it in. Edward's controlling
the puck, but the pass comesback to center eights. Badger's regroup in
the neutral zone. We'll drive itback in behind a holda a hola,

(01:49:50):
leaving it there and Rovu with it. Rovu looking for help to try to
clear it out of the zone.Sundoland will come over to help out.
Annik with it and it's broken outtowards center ice, knocked down by per
Card. Edwards will drive it backin behind the goal. Doing some smart

(01:50:10):
things here, just dumping it indeep if you don't have anything else,
forcing them to play in their ownend and going over to pick it up.
Now trying to bring it out ofthe zone. Play comes through center
ice. Twelve minutes remaining in thethird period. Comes in over the line.
This is Hall with a wrist thatwent wide and Curl tries to hold
it in back over the Hall triedto give it to Eden and it's deflected

(01:50:34):
up Ice trying to skate it downand moving back, going over to pick
it up from Wisconsin as jungles Junglestrying to work the wing haul back,
checking over to try and pick itup. Badgers behind their own net look
to regroup. It comes Harvey comingup Ice on the left wing to the

(01:50:55):
blue line of the Huskies at centerice. All is out and Curl is
on the ice as well. Curlclears that away and Wisconsin regroups in the
neutral zone and it's going to bebackhanded down in the corner, going back

(01:51:15):
in behind the net, Larson overthe control. Larson looks to come out
of the zone, moving the puckeahead, comes up the near wing low
line of Wisconsin. It's blocked andknocked down there by Potter, held in
by Saint Cloud State. They playit deep in the zone, goes behind
the net and Wisconsin's O'Brien will comeout moving it up. Ice on the

(01:51:39):
break comes in over the line, busting to the net. That line of
O'Brien, Wheeler and Sims trying toset it up out on top. There's
a shot of all by Potter.Another one second in a row for Potter.
Third of the air to one game. To see a freshman show that

(01:52:00):
kind of composure and just deliver themail the way Potter is doing today.
You can see that confidence just buildingand resulting in great things. N eight
the time of the goal, andthat's that advantage of you know, there
was some traffic in front of thenet a little bit too, you know,

(01:52:23):
take us goaltender's eyes away. Ifthey can't get a good look yet
it it's a hard, much harderpuck to stop. Wilgrin gets one assist
and O'Brien the other on the goaland Wisconsin now with that three goal cushion.

(01:52:43):
Tell you though, you're never outof the woods, Paul. You
know they're gonna come hard the remainingten and a half minutes. You know
that Badgers would pick up the win. It'd be twenty four and four on
the ear. But we won't goany for let's not count our hands right,
just played down in the corner onthe near side round the boards.
On the play, Edwards with it, fired it toward the net that's partially

(01:53:06):
blocked per card drive to center,it turned away Saint Cloud State to the
blootline of the Badgers, and Edwardsbreaks that up. She'll play it in
on McNaughton and will put it awayin the glove. Well, we could
all we could just hope for anatural hat trick, couldn't we? Oh?
I would love that. I wouldlove that. And that's three consecutive

(01:53:27):
goals. Huh. We'll see thatpuck come off number twenty two stick again
and maybe you'll find the nut.Who knows that'd be fun chant of one,
two, three, four. Wewant more. Yeah, there's a
little enthusiasm in the building. WhatI tell you, you score some goals.
They come to life, plays alongon the right wing boards. Badgers

(01:53:49):
back in their own zone. We'regonna have to get you a white flag
or something to wave to get thecrowd up. Yeah, get louder,
do something. Huh. It's alwaysnice to have the home crowd behind.
Oh yeah, and that UW bandI love them too. Lebond Arena has
been very, very good. We'vegot a penalty called a cross checking.

(01:54:11):
I'm not sure who what's on.I don't know if it's gonna be Murphy.
It appears as though it is ninethirty six remaining. Now Saint Cloud
State will go on the power play. So far in the game, the
Badgers are one for two and uhSaint Cloud zero for two on the power

(01:54:34):
play. You know, as physicalas as Saint Cloud plays, it's been
a pretty clean game. Yeah, have not many penalties. Yesterday there weren't
many penalties, and well they're goingto come out and scrape the ice here
a little bit. The shovels areout. This is Badger Women's hockey presented
by Goodman Jewelers, the Diamond Storeof Madison. We're back here at Lebond

(01:55:10):
Arena on a Sunday. Badgers inbasketball lost to the Boilermakers. I'll purdue
here at the Coal Center. Wisconsinhockey won last night in front of fifteen
thousand plus. That's the biggest crowdsince they retired Mark Johnson's jersey. Isn't
that something? It was a wonderfulatmosphere. I went to the game and

(01:55:30):
literally every seat full to the raftersliterally, and the play back in the
Badgers zone whipped around and they changedgoaltenders. Yes they did her. No,
Nope, they did goalie. Butshe's out here quite always. She
might be getting the hook and they'regoing to go with another skater, a
six skater, and yeah she is. As she's kind of inching her way

(01:55:51):
toward the bench. There she goes, she's gone, and that is empty.
They pulled their goaltender with nine minutesremaining. Nice and it's going to
be set up gentry with it justinside the line, controlling it as Rubo
and off on the play shot, tip the shot in the goal, and

(01:56:13):
uh that move worked as they scoretheir second of the game here, and
they cut the deficit by pulling theirgoaltender. Yep, and it paid off
for them. Button makes the saveon the initial one and the yeah,
Lynn, I bully got the goal. That's an interesting move that was very

(01:56:38):
successful the time of the goal elevenoh two. I suppose you're going to
get on me now about even mentioningthat potential win you just got. You
got to keep it under your stetsand Paul, you know, not until
it's all done. Well, theyhaven't changed the goal on the scoreboard yet.

(01:57:02):
There they change it and moving itup ice in the neutral zone.
Wisconsin back over to pick it up. We're down to eight forty five remaining.
In the third period, four totwo score back comes Lynn. Lynn
comes in over the line on theplay over to Farrell. Ferrell with it
Ross waiting at the point to tryand hold it in. Badgers look to

(01:57:23):
try and pick it up, playalong the board's near side with it as
Sims. Sims comes in over theline off on the play to O'Brien the
return and it's Wheeler picking it up. Wheeler with a shot wider than that
and it's going to be angled offthe sidewall and going back over to pick
it up. Here's Bowlby and hisdrive is steered away by McNaughton. See

(01:57:46):
if they get the itch to pullagain. But uhah, eight oh two
remaining. There's a little scrum goingon in the corner of the officials watching
them. Four players are just kindof knotted up with one another, locked
up on the fire wall in thecorner. They were there for about ten
fifteen seconds. Oh there's a shotblocked in front. Heavy traffic, whistle

(01:58:11):
and play will be stopped. Tellyou what you got to give Saint Cloud
some credit. They're battling here.Yeah, like I said about the ten
and a half minute mark, they'renot gonna give up. They're gonna be
coming hard right to the buzzer.Ohio State is the consensus number one team
in women's hockey, and they've onlylost two games in the year. One

(01:58:32):
was to Colgate and the other onewas to Saint Cloud State. That's a
big deal. That's a heck ofan accomplishment. Tells you a lot about
their team. Twenty nine twenty fourin shots on goal, Badgers with the
edge and also on the scoreboard atfour to two. Gonna be played back
down back in behind McNaughton, thegoaltender. She's looking for her twelfth win

(01:58:58):
of the year against two loss, and the Badgers try to work it out
of the zone. Played back downin behind Wisconsin at full strength and McNaughton
will put it away in the gloveand stop the play. Got a little
close to the crease area there again, trickling around there, cover it up.

(01:59:20):
Both teams changing up lines here faceoff coming up to the left side,
Bob McNaughton, You see Gourba Tankotake the draw here. She's out
of Barrington, Illinois, a freshman, and she wins it and the Badgers
try to work it up the wing. They tip it out toward the blue

(01:59:42):
line and chasing it down as perCard getting there in a hurry, tried
to center it to Edwards and comingover as Harvey. Harvey tried to play
it back to Edwards at the pointplay in the zone as Wisconsin's per Card
tried to hold the zone. Comingover to help out is gorbatank ankle moving
off the wings back door shut byEdwards. Boy, she got all of

(02:00:04):
that one, yeah, played alongthe boards on the near side Badger's back
door and another drive and it wentjust wide of the goal. That one
by Harvey, Yeah, that one. She got a lot on that one
too. It didn't shut a mustarda little high and wide though. Six
thirty seven are remitting in the thirdperiod as the Huskies try to pick it

(02:00:26):
up at their own blueline to regroup. Coming in over the line, controlling
it is Sundaland and his drive wentoff the back wall and it comes to
the point on the near side andit's held in by Ferrell. Badger's turn.
Tried to work it ahead, dumpeddown on the corner on the left
side and going back as Larson goodthere. Larson plays it around over to

(02:00:46):
Ross, Ross looking for help asSaint Cloud flips it out on the wing,
working it up the right side FerrelBeck handing it in over the line.
Controlling it is Sundaland trying to goback door to Kaufman and down along
in behind the Badger. Net goesdown Badger's turn and they'll come out on
the near side, broken up byRoss of Saint Cloud. State Badger's by

(02:01:11):
two with five point forty five remainingin the third Wisconsin trying to get out
of their own zone. Here, played down deep in the zone in the
corner. Rodebile comes over to tryand pick it up and Wisconsin will break
it out. It comes O'Brien goingover the line controlling it. O'Brien on

(02:01:31):
the left side centered it and itwas intended for Sims, but it didn't
connect. Good idea just missed inthe slot there on that path. Murphy
comes over to help out Badger's turnand this is Sims through center ice to
O'Brien at the point, returns toSims, back handed it toward the goal,
but it was played along the wing. Sims controlling it, trying to

(02:01:56):
go toward the net, but itwas pok checked away. Coming over to
control it is Potter. She's gottwo goals, the last two for the
Badgers. Here, we're down underfive minutes remaining in the third period with
a two goal lead. Wisconsin onthe wing over to pick it up.
That is Lind Lind getting help takeit away shot by curl rebound, a

(02:02:19):
haul, haul and Curl out onthe ice with Eden as a forward line,
play down deepen the zone in thecorner, jungles with it. Jungles
deepen the zone as a defenseman andHarvey waiting at the point to try and
block it there, Saint Claud willdrive it down on the right wing corner
of the Badger zone and curl lookingfor the play as it comes to the

(02:02:43):
point, gloved and knock down byRoss Dumb in the corner on the right
wing. Down to four h fivereminting in the period, lind with it
off on the play to Larson.Did they pull their goalie again? Yep,
they did. They got the extraattacker out. With three fifty six
remaining, they're down four to two. Playing off on the wing on the

(02:03:05):
far side, chipped out, here'sEden. Eden flipping a chat in the
goal hits the goal for the Badgersor twenty second of the year. Man
open netter in Wisconsin, leads itby a score of five to two.

(02:03:25):
That was great, man, Weneed that well. It worked for him
once to pull a goalie, butit didn't work twice. It sounded like
or looks like rather man, whatsixteen fifteen the time of the goal?

(02:03:45):
Wow, feel a little better now, huh boy, I tell you.
But now, Paul, it's notover yet, right. I don't think
this club is going to give upthree goals in three minutes and thirty seven
seconds, going back over as WilgrinWilgan around, Wisconsin back in their own
zone, coming up Byce on thebreak, Gorbatanko comes in over the line,

(02:04:10):
gorbatankel and Edwards. Edwards goes down, wrap around and pucard. There.
She's skating hard today, preca boyshe is. He is all over
the place. She ain't afraid tofor check hard man. Oh, she's
out of Quebec right winger, sophomoreat five seven. She's played really well.
Yeah, she has going back andcontrolling it is Wilgren. Wilgrin slides

(02:04:35):
it ahead on the break, theSims Simms comes in over the line,
Wisconsin out in front. We're downto two fifty remaining in regulation time.
They would be eighteen and four inleague play, and this victory had given
three points, they'd be twenty fourand four on the year. And it's

(02:05:00):
in front of the Saint Cloud bench. It's going to be played back and
they would have won their last elevengames, and they started the season with
twelve in a row. Kind offun, isn't it. I enjoy it
with you and with it as O'Brientrying to center it right out in Front's
going to be turned away and backup ice and through the neutral zone with

(02:05:24):
its Farrell. Farrell comes in overthe line pop checked away as they have
both teams at full strength and theirnetminder is back in under two minutes remaining
in the third period. Badgers willbe on the road at Bamidge State next
weekend and Reid Magnum will call thosegames. Reid did go the hockey for

(02:05:53):
the Badgers for a number of years, not exactly sure how many got too
busy with the radio business. Yeah, and he's got a couple of young
kids along the Board's curl with it, and it's gonna be played out of
his own. Here's a potential break. Here's Kaufman going in. Nice back
checking effort. Didn't even get offthe shot there. That was a great

(02:06:15):
display of jungles. Oh my goodness, you don't see that in the movies
too often. I'll tell you bothjust dove across there to make that say,
But jungles are man. That wasa great back CHECKI has a smooth
skater, that girl. One ohthree are remaining in the third period,
Badgers leading a five to two. They're gonna complete the sweep of Saint Cloud.

(02:06:40):
Would have won all four games againstthe Hoskies this year and played down
in the corner. Chuck up anotherone for Mark Johnson. He's in the
six hundreds. Man Or there's anotherinn't he something just inside the line?
Wilgrin with it. Wilgren little giveand go on the left side, and
we're down to less than thirty secondsfor Manning. In the third, they

(02:07:03):
tried to give it to gorbu Tanco. She got up kind of slow,
but seems all right in over theline and Bowlby with it, moving it
in shot. It bounced free andWisconsin trying to and do play it behind
their own net save but a loosepuck afterwards out to the point over to

(02:07:23):
Ross Ross inside the line and there'sa shot. Boy, she got all
of Allen and in front of theBadger net. There it is. It's
a victory for the Wisconsin Badger.Yes. Oh, five to two win
for the Cardinal and White. Ilove it. On goals in this game

(02:07:45):
by Gorbatanco her sixth of the year. Along with Harvey, she got her
fourth of the year. Laney Pottergot two in a row her second and
third of the air and then Wisconsincloses it out here on and open that
goal by Eden and for her that'sher twenty second goal. Is Yeah,

(02:08:09):
that was nice to see, realnice to see. How do you analyze
it? What's your thoughts sitting uphere? Well, that's aile on your
face. As I said earlier, you're never out of the woods. You
saw that, and there's a reason. I mean, this Saint Cloud team
is tough. We held held steady, made some minor adjustments. I thought
we improved that neutral zone, navigationof the puck through there, and Ava

(02:08:30):
hung on good, you know,Mark, And now you've won eleven games
in a row again and things aregoing well for the club. Twenty four
and four you got to go onthe road to Bamidgi State and that kind
of thing. What do you talkabout in terms of the players, and
hey, let's keep this into perspective, like Mark would say, right one
at a time, right, Yeah, it's just you kind of almost can't

(02:08:52):
look at those wins or that stretchof victories and just say, okay,
let's move forward. Now we gotthe next opponent. They're going to give
us everything we've got a target onour back a lot of the time.
So we're gonna get the opponent's besteffort and you've got to be prepared to
play. They're circling right now atcenter ice and the big circle, and
what they'll do is do they sticksalute to the fans. And that's kind

(02:09:16):
of nice. You've been involved withfive of the seven championships, you've been
Goldie coach since two thousand and seven. What do you see in this club?
Well, they're coming together pretty well. There's a nice mix of contributions
from and you saw it today, the upperclassmen and the youngsters, you know,
So that's just a nice mix tohave. You know, you're not
depending on just one person or twopeople or one line. It's contributions from

(02:09:41):
everybody. I really like that. All right, my friend, thank you
for your help this weekend. Here. Thanks for a great weekend, Paul,
it's been my pleasure. We're twoh we can take credit for it.
We're on a roll and you've gotthanks for everything. That's Mark Greenhall
and this is Wisconsin Hockey. BadgerWomen's Hockey presented by Goodman Jewelers the Diamond
Store of Madison. Two winner herein Levon Arena in front of another set

(02:10:16):
off crowd as Wisconsin now twenty fourand four on the year at eighteen and
four in the WCCHA. Saint Cloudtook the lead goal at the seven and
fifty mark of the first period andthe goal was scored by Surreal and for
her it was their sixth goal ofthe year. Then the Badgers would get

(02:10:37):
on the board late in the periodten to twenty five mark, and Wisconsin
gets the goal from Gorbatenco. Osky'sregroup at their own Osky's regroup at their
own blue line and back they comein over the Wisconsin line. Ruvu with
it, Ruvu moving in shot techsave. Oh what a nice stack pads

(02:11:00):
saved there. She had it playingit the head on the shot edwards.
Why was the girl in the reboundby Gorba Tanco her sixth goal of the
air. Gorba Tanco ties it upfor the Badgers with the Huskies of Saint
Cloud State and it was one toone at that point in all of the

(02:11:20):
goals in the first period and thesecond period. At the seven point fifty
one the mark of the period,Wisconsin horrees another one. Wisconsin holds it
in with Harvey. Here's Harvey movingit in shot the goal. She ripped
it into the upper corner of theNAT first second goal of the weekend or

(02:11:41):
fifth of the year, and wascut. Wisconsin at that point had deleted
two to one. In the thirdperiod, two in a row would come
for Potter. The first of thetwo at the six fourteen mark of the
period. Curl coming up ice,Curl comes in over the line. Curl
trying to risk her that when oneof the goal Badgers have Garvey out and

(02:12:09):
play. There's a drive a goalby Potter. Potter gets her second goal
of the air. She snuck itthrough that was lost and Wisconsin leads at
three to one, And at thenine to twenty eight mark of the period,
Potter had repeat what he had justdone about three minutes earlier. O'Brien,

(02:12:31):
Wheeler and Sims trying to set itup out on top. There's a
shot a girl by Potter. Anotherone second in a row for Potter,
the third of the air. Afour to one game. You'll love to
see a freshman that had a composureand just deliver the mail the way Potter
is doing today. And Saint CloudState would get their second goal of the

(02:12:56):
game late in the period, BudWisconsin would finish it off and they would
win the game by a score offive to two. And we're gonna take
a break. We'll be back. This is Badger Women's Hockey presented by Goodman
Jewelers the Diamond Store of Madison.Back at Lebond Arena where the Wisconsin Badgers

(02:13:28):
won the hockey game tonight by afinal score of five to two. Thirty
two shots on goal for the Badgers, twenty five for the Huskies of Saint
Cloud State. Noah Clark joining usnow he had been down in the locker
room. They got to be ahappy group down there. Huh oh.
Yeah, absolutely, and especially fromthe game that we retreated to last night,
just a thriller, this one beinga little bit more one sided from

(02:13:52):
the Badgers. That locker room's feelingpretty happy. All the coaches in staff
feeling pretty happy about this win. They start the year with twelve wins in
a row. Now they're back toa streak of eleven in a row again.
Yeah, and they keep their winstreak going here at lebon They haven't
lost. They haven't lost since Minnesota. Da Luth Really impressive from what we've
seen here at Lebon. They arereally dominated at home and they got two

(02:14:15):
more series left at home here beforethey get ready for the postseason. And
no I had an opportunity to chatwith mister Cook, one of the assistant
coaches for the Badger women's team,Noah Clark, talking alongside associate head coach
Dan Cook. Dan, a greatwin tonight for the Wisconsin Badgers. They
get the sweep over Saint Cloud Stateand get the sweep over them for the

(02:14:35):
season, winning all four games thisyear. Your thoughts on how the game
was played from period one to twoto three, because in the first period
a lot of adjustments I saw werebeing made, and really they you guys
attacked the Huskies defensively and offensively.Yeah, you know, it's They're a
very tough opponent, you know,so to come away with four seasons four

(02:14:58):
game sleep really big. They're aphysical team, they play their system.
Well, we got better, Ithought as the first period started going,
we got into a routine. Everybodystarted to manage the puck a little bit
begger. Once we got the puckin deep, you know, we knew
that they've kind of shrinked down towardsthe front of the net, so we

(02:15:18):
knew the d would be open andit was just a matter of them getting
shot through, which they were ableto do tonight. The freshmen really stepped
up tonight. Lady Potter got twogoals. Kelly Gerbertenko also got a goal
as well. Your thoughts on thefreshmen because they've had They've been a big
part of this team so far thisseason and getting two goals, getting three

(02:15:39):
goals tonight for this team must havebeen really special for them. Oh yeah,
you know, Kelly's been working reallyhard throughout the year, doing a
lot of extra stuff, and withthe injuries, her roll increase and she
took advantage of that going hard tothe net. We thought that was something
we didn't do very well yesterday, having a good middle drive and attacking,
and then you know Viv and Laneyon defense. I've picked up a lot

(02:16:01):
of minutes for us. They've learnedthroughout the year, and right now I
think they're feeling very comfortable and almostplaying like it's their sophomore junior year.
Noah Clark talk with associate head coachDan Cook. Dan a pleasure, thank
you, and that was well donethere. Noah and Wisconsin Winnie by a

(02:16:22):
score of five to two. Nowthey'll go on the road. They'll be
at Bamidge State next weekend and they'llplay a two game series up there and
then come home for four exciting gamesNoah, between Minnesota and Ohio State.
Yeah, and looking around the leaguetoo, Minnesota and Ohio State both got
sweeps in the last two games Fridayand Saturday. So it's kind of spearheading

(02:16:45):
to what should be a last reallyincredible two weeks here at lebonn Ice Arena.
And the Badgers could you know, play spoiler in those two teams they
split against Minnesota in the first matchupand then against Ohio State they got looking
for a little revenge against both ofthose teams. Well, that's going to
wrap it up here for us Man. It's been an enjoyable weekend picking up

(02:17:07):
a couple of victories for the Badgers. In our first broadcast next week,
it will be Read Magnum doing theplay by play from the Midgei State and
then of course we'll be back whenMinnesota comes to town and following that the
Buckeyes of Ohio State and then theplayoffs and from the Minnesota point on We'll

(02:17:30):
be there as far as the Badgerswill go and hopefully that ends in Durham,
New Hampshire in a national championship.Thank you for joining us, for
Sean preble back at the studios,Thank you, Sean, for Noah Clark
and for Mark Greenhal I'm Paul Brown. Thank you, and we tell you
that the Badgers finished off this sweep with a five to two victory over

(02:17:54):
the Hoskies of Saint Cloud's State. That's it from La Bond Arena in Madison,
