Speaker 1 (00:05):
Back on the pregame show, You're on a Sunday Paul
Brown with you w women's hockey coach Mark Johnson Mark
hard work and dedication pays off WHA title number ten
in the regular season.
Speaker 2 (00:18):
Yeah, it was. It was a special day and you know,
thank the crowd. The crowd was great. I mean they'd
been loud before, but yesterday they were loud and they
were entertaining, and you know, they felt the energy with
the players and the way the team was playing and
helped us along the way. And just a great afternoon.
And then you know in the body of work that
(00:40):
this team has been able to put together, you know
they saw at the end of what that looks like
when the trophy came on the ice, And it's a
tough trophy to win because you have to be consistently
good for a long period of time, and you know,
you have to try to get to the finish line,
you know, with twenty eight games within our league and
that's not easy to do. So you know, they have
a lot to be proud of. They're the ones that
(01:02):
put the work in and then they got rewarded.
Speaker 3 (01:04):
So it was a special day.
Speaker 1 (01:05):
Aba McNaughton said, after the game. This team was firing
on all cylinders in this game, two hundred feet of effort,
everybody on the same page. And when we play that way,
we're dangerous.
Speaker 3 (01:18):
Yeah, I mean you still signs of it.
Speaker 2 (01:20):
And I think it really started the second night up
until luth that second period, we started to play the
way we're capable of playing, had a great third period,
and then we had it, you know, a good week
of practice and as you mentioned, the energy was high.
Speaker 3 (01:32):
It was senior day.
Speaker 2 (01:34):
There's emotions involved in all of that too, and so
I was just excited that, you know, they went out
and they enjoyed themselves and they played well, and you know,
at the end of the day, they got rewarded with
something that's hard to do.
Speaker 1 (01:47):
Mark, I have a couple of friends that have not
seen much women's hockey, but they were here for the
game last night, and I asked Pete about it after
he attended the game, and he said, you know, I
had heard about Harvey and Eden and Edwards and O'Brien
and Sims, but he said, there's another player on that
(02:08):
team that really stood out to him.
Speaker 4 (02:11):
That was Jungles number twenty.
Speaker 2 (02:13):
Yeah, she had a very good game, and you know,
I don't know if it's Minnesota and Ohio State, you
know the teams that are you know, notorious for putting
together good squads. She always seems to step up and
play well in those great games, and so you know
her goal. Yet last night she had that special special
(02:33):
smile on her face after you know, a goal scorers scores.
Speaker 3 (02:36):
But yeah, she had a very good game.
Speaker 2 (02:39):
And you know when we dropped two defensemen, one early
in the game and then one halfway through the game
that weren't able to play anymore. So you know, she
had to step up and certainly play more minutes than
she's normally plays. And she normally plays a lot of minutes.
So usually if your back end's playing well and your
goal is playing well, you have chances to be successful.
Speaker 1 (03:01):
But yet when you watch her play, she really doesn't
stand out. But it seems like she never makes any mistakes.
Speaker 2 (03:07):
No, she's she's honest to the game, and like I say,
she she helps break the fuck out. She's on our
second power play, She kills penalties, she does a lot
of things, and a lot of times she goes unnoticed
because you know, you got Harvey sitting on the ice
of her, and she's flying around and doing what she's
capable to do. You know, Potter's had a good year,
so you know she sort of takes a back seat,
(03:28):
but not in her play. And so you know, if
you ranked the players last night, she was right near
the top as far as the kids playing well.
Speaker 1 (03:34):
Speaking of Potter, her and Murphy out of the lineup today, Uh, yep, yep.
Speaker 2 (03:38):
They got banged up yesterday and so we'll be without
their services today. And you know that's part of the
process too. So the nice thing is we have next
weekend off and so we have a time time for
those kids to get themselves back to one hundred percent
and get ourselves ready when we have to go up
to a midgie in a couple of weekends. So you know,
(03:59):
over the rest of the season things are going to happen.
Speaker 3 (04:02):
You just have to adjust move people around.
Speaker 2 (04:04):
We'll probably play Leila on defense most of the game tonight,
as we did the third period last night.
Speaker 1 (04:10):
Mark you mentioned you have the week offten you go
up to Bamigi to finish the year. Is it pedal
to the medal the rest of the way, or how
do you kind of approach the next couple of weeks here.
Speaker 2 (04:20):
Well, after winning yesterday, I mean it just makes for
you know, a better week coming ahead and not having
to go up to BMIGI and and clinch the titles.
So what it does for us next week is it
gives us a chance to get healthy. And so, as
I mentioned to you coming out after Duluth and Saint Cloud,
you know, we're banged up a little bit, and at
this time of the year, even a day or two
(04:41):
of rest refuels the body, it makes it feel better.
So we'll spend next week doing that, getting ourselves in
a position where we're healthier than we are today. And
then when we get to Monday, a week from tomorrow,
then we start honing and on THEMIGI and you know
what you're going to.
Speaker 3 (04:59):
Get up there.
Speaker 2 (04:59):
It's easy. They play hard, they challenge you. They're defending
well the last six or eight weekends, and so but
you know, it's again an opportunity anytime play a game
is to get better. And that's the whole thing with
today's game is you know, we got to get better.
We got to keep working on things and get better.
Speaker 1 (05:17):
Minnesota is shorthanded. They've got four regulars out of the lineup.
Speaker 2 (05:20):
Yeah, they got a couple of kids over and you know,
injuries and a couple of kids over in Europe in
different tournaments with different countries. But yeah, and it's like
one thing about no one feels sorry for you. So
you can say this and that, and you know that
us missing a couple of defensemen.
Speaker 3 (05:36):
But it's like, Okay, somebody wants to play more.
Speaker 2 (05:38):
Well, here's your opportunity. You've been, you know, saying you
want to get more ice time, and now you're going
to get that. What can you do with it? So
it's it's part of what you go through. You certainly
don't want too many of them. And you knock on
wood if you can go through a season with not
many of them, and that that really happens.
Speaker 4 (05:55):
I was surprised.
Speaker 1 (05:55):
It took a look at Abby Murphy only had two
shots on goal and that game.
Speaker 3 (06:00):
Yeah, I mean, you know, it's a credit to the
way we played.
Speaker 2 (06:04):
And uh, you know, I've been involved on the other
side of that too, where you know, the start game
starts getting away from you and it's like, you know,
it takes the wind out of your sale and you know,
you I might not play with the same bite that
you would if the game was tied or your down
a goal or up a goal. So yeah, it's it
was a credit to the defenseman. And then when she
(06:25):
had a couple opportunities, even made a couple of nice
saves on her.
Speaker 5 (06:28):
But you know, she's a.
Speaker 2 (06:28):
Good player and she plays strong, aggressive, and you know
you have to be conscious and when she's out there.
Speaker 1 (06:35):
One final one concerned about energy or effort today on
the part of the Badgers.
Speaker 3 (06:41):
I mean, you're always concerned about different things.
Speaker 2 (06:43):
You know, such an emotional day yesterday with Senior Day
and winning, you know, and bringing the trophy on the ice.
It's like, okay, now they're going to drop the buck
at noon today. What do we want to do? And
so it'll be interesting to see how we respond to
you know, such a wonderful day yesterday. But you know,
the competitivenessness of the players and the team, that's what
(07:03):
you're looking for. It might maybe it takes five six
minutes to get into the game or a couple of
ships to get into the game.
Speaker 3 (07:09):
We'll see.
Speaker 2 (07:09):
But again, you know, if you like to play hockey,
if you'd like to be in these type of environments
that you don't get many of them in women's hockey.
Today's another chance to have fun and enjoy ourselves and
try to play well.
Speaker 4 (07:20):
Thank you, coach.
Speaker 3 (07:21):
Have a good date.
Speaker 1 (07:28):
Rina on the campus of the University of Wisconsin and Madison.
Speaker 5 (07:32):
Good afternoon, everybody.
Speaker 1 (07:33):
Along with Mark Greenhall, I'm Paul Brown, set to bring
you Game two of this WCCHA series. The Badgers opening
up skating from right to left, the Minnesota Golden Gophers
from left to right. RB and Jungles will open defensively.
Opening it up front, it's Sims along with O'Brien and
(07:54):
Scannal and it's going to be played at center ice.
Speaker 5 (07:57):
Murphy with it for Minnesota.
Speaker 1 (07:58):
We'll flip it down to the left side back in
the Badger's zone. Picked up her own pass, they go
to the point, try to drive it to the net
and play around over.
Speaker 5 (08:08):
To the Badgers. They try to bring it out.
Speaker 1 (08:11):
Harvey is out with Jungles, Abby Murphy for checking against
Jungles and pressure by Morow of Minnesota. They drive it
wide of the net around over the Scandal to pick
it up in the corner. They move the freshman up
on that number one line because Edwards is gonna play defense.
The Badger's down two people defensively for this game, and
(08:34):
they'll try to headman it out of the ice. Scandal
with it and turns and plays it up to far boards.
It's intercepted by more of Minnesota. They work it to
the Wisconsin line. We're just underway in the first period
with it as Harvey on the break coming up ice.
Here comes O'Brien in over the line, trying to slide
it through. Gore Batankle looking to pick it up, but
(08:55):
Minnesota will play it back to the Badger line. Don
Lowski will pick it up on the break. Here's Gorbtenko
up to far boards, comes in of the line, risk
shot block and Cassie Hall trying to pick it up.
It's chipped down over the center ice over to Kandlawski.
You will play it back the Gophers turning out. They
come lighting and with it in over the line. They
(09:18):
tried to lead it to Wessington around on the far
side and it's held in by O'Hara and playing at
Wessington back in behind the Wisconsin net. Eighteen seventeen. Remaining
here in a scoreless first period, both teams at full strength.
Minnesota tries to pick it up in the neutral zone.
Cassie Hall on the break, trying to lead it through
(09:40):
to Enright. Enright getting their first controls the punk Oncenevitch
on the far boards. Minnesota goes back asubad around with
O'Hara behind the goal, and the Badgers will look and
they'll try.
Speaker 5 (09:54):
To come out of the zone.
Speaker 1 (09:56):
And we have seventeen forty eight remaining here in the period.
Working around over to Harvey. Harvey's drive is blocked back
to the point on the right side over the Edwards
comes around over to Harvey. Harvey in the.
Speaker 5 (10:10):
Circle to the near side.
Speaker 1 (10:12):
Good idea shot deflected to the corner and it's going
to be played all the way back and Harvey will
go back and pick it up along with Edwards. Four Wisconsin.
Edward's coming out on the break, Badgers work it through
center ice, tipped in over the blue line and whistle
and play is going to be stopped.
Speaker 5 (10:30):
Greenie. Welcome the board, buddy, Yeah, glad to be here.
Speaker 6 (10:33):
Team two of another action packed game against the Gophers.
Speaker 5 (10:37):
You can count on that.
Speaker 1 (10:39):
And we'll have the face off coming up back in
the zone of the Badgers here in a scoreless game
in the first period. The Badgers have outscored their opponents
fifty nine to twelve. Minnesota's scored thirty eight and allowed nineteen.
Badgers on the ear twenty eight to one and two
twenty two to one and two in the league, Minnesota
(11:00):
twenty two seven and one overall, and in the league
they are sixteen six and one. Coming up ice controlling
it the Badgers wrapping up the WCHA regular season title
here in Game one, and an icing will be called
against the Badgers.
Speaker 6 (11:16):
Yeah, the fans didn't like that evidently. Yeah, they kind
of gave a little uh humph there to the call of.
Speaker 1 (11:25):
Icing, and we'll have the face off coming up back
in the zone of Wisconsin, to the right of Ava McNaughton,
who leads in goals against, average, save percentage, wins and
shutouts in college hockey. Around on the far side, controlling
at Minnesota at full strength. Shot is kicked away as
Abby Murphy fired it from the top of the circle,
(11:48):
and it's going to be set up by Minnesota just
outside the Badger line. You were coming in along with
Murphy cleared out of the slot. Fuck comes to the
wing on the near side. Gophers are play without four
of their regular players. The Badger's playing without two of
their regular players. Potter is out and Murphy is out
of this game around on the far side as it's
(12:12):
going to be set up and controlled Minnesota and the
shots on goals so far we got zero zero up
on the board. We have fifteen sixteen twenty remedic in
the first period, goes around over to McCarthy. McCarthy back
handing it out towards center eyes. It's going to be
turned back coming in over the line, whistling, and action's
(12:32):
going to be stopped. Greening at the blue line of Wisconsin.
Speaker 6 (12:35):
Yeah, Hemp proceeded the puck into the zone there for
that offside, But pretty quick transitions so far, Paul back
and forth here.
Speaker 5 (12:42):
Kind of expect that. And yeah, the games with Minnesota
and Wisconsin.
Speaker 6 (12:46):
Even when the personnel changes with all the folks that
are out due to injuries or what have you.
Speaker 1 (12:51):
Lindsey is out of the ice with Puppy and Hemp
from Minnesota. It Sims along with Cassie Hall for the Badgers,
and then Sims will go in and try to win
the face of she does and the Badgers go back
over the venusio on the far side over to kott
Lawski at center eyes. Kat Lawski will backhand it in.
(13:12):
The goaltender for Minnesota is Hannah Clark. She played a
couple of periods in Game one, then they changed. Badgers
won that game eight to two, largest margin of victory,
tying it.
Speaker 5 (13:23):
That's happened twice now.
Speaker 1 (13:25):
Where the Badgers have beaten Minnesota by six goals in
one game. Coming up Ice controlling it, Minnesota back in
their own zone around over to pick it up for
checking at Sims and Cassie Hall and kot Lowski with it,
will drive it back down in the corner. Fifteen minutes
thirty seconds from Medica the first period, Minnesota carries it
(13:45):
in over the line with it as O'Hara, O'Hara and
Edwards callid Badgers turn tried to bring it out of
the zone. They'll move it up Ice, Crecum Sims in
of the line she had four assists in Game one,
and the Gophers on the wing play it out to
the blue line of the Badgers. Wisconsin's Harvey plaked it
back in of the Minnesota line there to set it
(14:08):
up as Graham. Graham around on the pass played it
behind the net over the cassabudge and Eden with it
around over the Cassie hall and the pard A card
comes around over to Whedon eating with a shot deflected
out front. Eden gets it back, carried it behind the net.
Gorbatanko tried to skate it down Gopher's turn out.
Speaker 5 (14:29):
They come with Franco playing it.
Speaker 1 (14:31):
Back in the Badger zone edwards ahead quickly on the
pass over the Whedon comes in of the line on
the drop over the Harvey, Harvey cutting it in, try
to go to the slot to Gorbatanco. Minnesota turns and
they play it out towards centa ice and lagging back
as Abby Murphy. She does that a lot, states around
towards the neutral zone, trying to get the break yep
(14:53):
and coming up ice controlling it in the neutral zone,
play back in of the Wisconsin line, jungles looking help
whistle and play is going to be stopped.
Speaker 5 (15:02):
Take a thirty second break.
Speaker 1 (15:04):
This is Wisconsin Badger hockey games with.
Speaker 5 (15:11):
No shot in the roll.
Speaker 1 (15:12):
Again at the game between the Minnesota and Wisconsin played
back down whistle and that'll bring the face off back
into the zone near the Minnesota.
Speaker 5 (15:21):
Line, and we have what are your thoughts on what's
happened so far here?
Speaker 6 (15:26):
Reading well pretty fast paces you'd expect. Uh, it's transitioning quickly.
I see that they don't have any shots for either
team on net yet, but I don't know if I
saw a couple.
Speaker 5 (15:37):
Here that they had. I thought, yeah, I'm sure, But.
Speaker 1 (15:40):
I looked up and I thought, wait a minute, maybe
something's not working right right around on the far side
over trying to control it with it as Sims comes
on the player round over the Jungles. Jungles worked it
around the boards on the far side of Minnesota turning
trying to pick it up with Connor. Donner comes into
the line with Huber and Murphy. Badger's turn intercept it.
(16:01):
Scannal can't pick up the lead pass down in the corner.
Scannal works the wing along with Sims down in the corner.
It's Scanneal and Sims and O'Brien and the play will
be set up and controlled coming over to try and
pick it up, and it's going to be played by Minnesota.
They come to the line of Wisconsin and over the
(16:22):
line they drive it in behind McNaughton and the play
comes to the wing. Badgers turn look to bring it
out of the zone, play it rinkwide at center ice.
It caroms back in the Badger's zone, comes around on
the play quickly ahead and it's.
Speaker 5 (16:38):
Intercepted by lightning.
Speaker 1 (16:39):
On the play, they try to lead it up ice
over the puppy, but the Badgers break that up, talk
loose at the neutral zone, carry back into.
Speaker 5 (16:47):
The line by Hemp.
Speaker 1 (16:48):
Hemp on the pass comes out of the zone and
backing out as Nicholson to regroup and they'll play it
back in behind Ava McNaughton. She whips it around on
the board so of it. A Venussi plays it up
to the near side, intended for Gorbatanco and it's broken
up by lighton in a Minnesota on the plate of O'Hara.
O'Hara comes into the Wisconsin line on the far side
(17:12):
and Wisconsin trying to pick it up on the near boards.
Gorbatanco trying to work it loose, played it out over
the center ice that went to the stick of Graham.
Minnesota will drive it back of the Badger's zone. Gorbatanco
in the near corner right side trying to pick it
up with Edwards and the McNaughton steers it behind it
at Edward's over to try and pick it up. They
(17:33):
play it in front of McNaughton. Badgers work it out
of their own zone. They try to fire it out
of the break intended to eat and whistle, and action's
going to be stopped on an icing call.
Speaker 6 (17:44):
Well, one thing, Paul, it seems to be critical and
we started to do a better job of it yesterday
and that's not letting them get behind us. You know,
an odd forward breaking free on the far side, they
just up and go here. I like the way Edwards
is playing. D's showing some of her versatility and skills.
Speaker 1 (18:02):
You know, she's substituting because Ava Murphy is out of
the lineup. Yeah, and Potter is also out of the lineup,
and play going.
Speaker 5 (18:15):
Here comes O'Brien up Ice.
Speaker 1 (18:17):
Controlling it, comes in over the line, trying to pick
it up, and it's going to be played towards this
lot over the gore, buttanco and it's going up the
boards on the near side over to try and set
it up. Play around on the wing on the far
side controlling it as Moro down on the wing to
the point on the left side. It's controlled by Connor
(18:39):
back end her nice plopping that and it's going to
be set up on the right side Minnesota with a
drive and that puck is blocked. It would have been
fired wow around on the far side, getting some good
opportunities here for the goofers and coming over Minnesota, we'll
drive it back down in behind the that over trying
to pick it up to play along out in front
(19:00):
of McNaughton. The Badgers try to clear with Gorbatanko. Gophers
hold it in with Hubert Hubert down in the corner,
looking for help from Morrow. They go behind the net
to Murphy around on the pass back of Tomorrow at
the point who drove it deflected want of the goal
comes around on the play and Minnesota turning. They knock
(19:21):
it down at Santa Rise, carry it by Lindsey and
drive it back down on the zone, chasing it behind
the net. Good hustle on the part of Hemp, trying
to hold the zone from Minnesota.
Speaker 5 (19:32):
They had backdoor Hemp. They tried to play it to her.
Speaker 1 (19:35):
Wisconsin moves it up the boards on the right side,
back down on the corner, lights in and over to
try and control it and play along the boards back
in behind the net. Minnesota will set it up coming
out of the zone. They play it off camp with it,
carries it in over the line, trying to lead it
to Lindsay.
Speaker 5 (19:54):
There's a shot covered up by Ava McNaughton. Yeah, I
was glad to see Cott.
Speaker 6 (20:00):
She got turned there in the neutral zone fall, but
then she back checked hard and was able to defend
and a nice stop by Eva.
Speaker 5 (20:07):
Are you okay with your headset? Now? You're giving me
a set?
Speaker 6 (20:10):
Yeah, I can hear now. It's like somebody had duct
tape over my ears or something. It No, I can
hear you now, I couldn't hear you.
Speaker 1 (20:17):
We're gonna take a break. This is Wisconsin Badger women's
hockey no store here at Lebon Arena between the Minnesota
and Wisconsin. This is the one and twenty ninth meeting
between the Minnesota and the Wisconsin Badgers. Wisconsin is sixteen
(20:39):
five and four in the last twenty five games, and
they've won the last seven in a row. But overall,
Minnesota is a slight two game edge over Wisconsin in
the total series and coming up ice the Gophers trying
to take it away. Wisconsin comes in over the line.
Anna McCarthy with the drives, kick saved away. Edward's at
(20:59):
the point the whole it in, pushed it in on Graham.
She shuffled that off Minnesota trying to work it out.
Badger's pressure holds it in. Harvey with it moving, Harvey.
Speaker 5 (21:09):
Tried to set it. We got a penalty coming up. Yeah,
it's going to be against the Gophers.
Speaker 1 (21:13):
They held up Harvey and the Gophers are going to
go to the penalty box on the holding call.
Speaker 6 (21:20):
Harvey was so determined to get to that net that
somebody actually tried to grab her and that's obviously illegal.
So they'll go to the box for two minutes. And
I think that's uh lengthen and it's Nellie Layton that's
going to the box for the Gophers for two.
Speaker 1 (21:35):
The Badgers are number one in the country on the
power play. They're also number one on the penalty kill,
number one on winning percentage, number one allowing the fewest.
Speaker 5 (21:45):
Goals, and number one in scoring the most goals.
Speaker 1 (21:49):
And on the power play they've scored thirty one of
eighty three, good for about thirty eight percent.
Speaker 5 (21:55):
And the draw comes over to Sims. The number one
unit is the same.
Speaker 1 (22:01):
Eden is out, Harvey is out, Sims and O'Brien and
Edwards shot blocked by man the goaltender. Clark set up
back door over to Layley Edwards, who has twenty eight
goals and fifty nine points. That's a high for her
and twenty eight goals leading the country nine fourteen remitting
(22:23):
in the period no score drawn. Comes back over to Harvey,
Harvey around of the play back over to O'Brien, back
out on top over to Harvey. Harvey with a shot
and that is blocked. Sims picks it up down in
the corner on the far side, played it around over
to Edwards. Edwards is bumped. Badger's trying to control it
but moving it up ice. Coming through the center zone
(22:45):
is Murphy.
Speaker 5 (22:46):
Murphy on the drop intended primorro turned back, there's O'Brien
and Edwards. Two on one.
Speaker 1 (22:51):
O'Brien shot a shot. Yeah, she came out and made
the say back over to Eden with a.
Speaker 5 (22:57):
Drive and that was why and why of the go
A couple of nice shots on net there.
Speaker 6 (23:03):
One was wide, but I'd like to see us getting
the puck to the net here, especially in the power play.
Speaker 1 (23:08):
The Badgers are let in power play goals scoring by
Harvey along with Eden and Leylea Edwards. They all have
six power play goals apiece. But now it's Scanneal, Gorba Tanco,
and Hall along with Venusio and Jungles. It comes on
the play over to Venusio on the play the Jungles
(23:30):
on the far side over the Hall all with a drive.
It went in behind the nap Badgers around over to
set it up. We have one amit of remitting of
the man advantage power play for the Badgers. Venusio along
the near boards looking for help. Scannal tried to hold
his zone. Gorba Tanco tried to skate it down Haul
along with Gorbatanco. Minnesota turns and they drive it off
(23:54):
the stick of him back in the Badger zone eight
oh five remitting here in the first period. No score
shots are listed at six to' one. Wisconsin with the edge.
Badgers come out of the zone. They put up thirty eight.
In game one of Minnesota with twenty back in behind
the app around on the far side, Minnesota will turn.
(24:16):
Badgers break it up at center ice. Binusio drops it
to the Badger line. The Wisconsin tries to set it
up on the near boards, chasing it down as Premorano.
Premorano down to the corner turn, tried to drive it
out of the zone and dead. Premorano was highly recruited
(24:37):
coming to the Minnesota program out of North Vancouver.
Speaker 5 (24:40):
Bitersh Columbia back in of the line. Harvey with it.
Speaker 1 (24:44):
It's chipped away, and that was Abby Murphy who chipped
it all the way back in the Badger's zone for
checking his huber against Edwards. Harvey will pick it up
and she'll skate out of the zone. Coming up the
far side, carried it through center ice. Some of the
pricard who turned and drove it in behind ground on
(25:04):
the hustle Wasnevitch and Wasnevitch's check taken down. Badgers did
not convert in their own first power play opportunity. They're
all one and the Minnesota trying to get it out
of the zone. Leila Edwards with a drive. It's tipped away.
Wisconsin centered it nobody home back to the point over
to Edwards, Edwards around over the Harvey Harvey faked the
(25:28):
drive then.
Speaker 5 (25:29):
To right on and the save is made by Hannah.
Speaker 6 (25:33):
Clark Ash Harvey made a nice little toad drag there
above the left dot and baked out. The defenseman ripped
a nice wrister on Thatt, but Clark was there to
make the same.
Speaker 1 (25:42):
Six minutes and thirty four seconds remaining here in period
number one, we are scoreless. Badgers had twelve different players
put up points in the first game of this series.
Speaker 5 (25:56):
And it's going to be set up.
Speaker 1 (25:57):
And controlled Wisconsin along the border on the near side
in the corner, whether it is O'Brien behind around over
to McCarthy. McCarthy slides it back of the Sims right
wing boards over to O'Brien back out on top, Don
Lowski to an ou ceo with a drive deflected, and
it's going to be turned away by Lindsey trying to
(26:18):
lead it to Hemp and stronding back down in the corner.
Hemp there first to pick it up and fired it
around to the near boards. McCarthy with it, will lift
it and clear to sent our ice. On the play,
it's Sims in over the line over to O'Brien back
with a drive right on and I'll tell you what
(26:39):
I think that was around on the car side coming
around over to set it up on the play, heavy
shot and played back down in the corner controlling it
along the board's near wing. Five thirty eight remaining in
the period. Still no score here. It's going to be
played back down to the Badgers zone, going back and
(27:00):
with it a Jungles. Jungles stick handling with a puck
coming out of the zone, angled it off the boards,
trying to go ahead on the brake, tipped up over
the bench area and the stoppage of play with no
score in.
Speaker 5 (27:12):
Five twenty four remitting in the first period.
Speaker 6 (27:14):
It's a pretty good fuck movement there in that shift
fast period.
Speaker 5 (27:18):
Yeah, we got Eden out on the ice.
Speaker 1 (27:23):
All is out as well, Jungles paired defensively with Harvey,
Badgers forward line doing a little shifting. They're a little
shorthanded scandal on this one. Now plays back down in
the corner. That freshman is moving up, playing different positions
on different lines for the Badgers. Ready got eleven goals
(27:45):
in her freshman year. On the wrap around, Eden over
the Scannal scandal with it down in the corner, back
to the point of the play over the Harvey, this Scannal,
Eden and Scannal try to work it loose in the
Minnesota's own and they try and do clear it around
over to edon back to the point of the jungles
around on the far side over the Harvey. Harvey with
(28:06):
a drive, deflected unt and the save was made by Clark,
deflected right in on her. Badgers hold it in back
of the Harvey. Here's Harvey working around, fired it right
on and that save is made. Bock came loose. Badgers
looked to pick it up. Minnesota trying to bring it out.
They listed at eleven to one in shots played back
(28:29):
down on the corner, but no goals in the game.
Back goes Wisconsing with four point fifteen remitting in the period.
Coming up, Ice trying to control it. Badgers in their
own zone will work it out of the wing on
the near side. Minnesota holds it in the line of
Murphy along with Connor and Hubert with some pressure. Harvey
(28:49):
with it, played it off the sideboards in front of
the Badger bench, picked up by Hubert. Hubert looking for help,
whistle and plays stopped at the Wisconsin blueline.
Speaker 5 (29:00):
Off sides there.
Speaker 6 (29:02):
It's nice to see these different combinations of people and
see how they respond.
Speaker 5 (29:06):
So are pretty good, you know.
Speaker 1 (29:08):
And more the type of game that we expected last night.
It seems to be appearing here today, be very close.
Huh ba, So I'm coming up well, Minnesota really needs
a win to h They are right now in third
place in the w c CHA. However, they have two
(29:29):
games in hand compared to Ohio State who only has
two left as well, and they're hoping to hold that
spot because that could be important and the NCAA.
Speaker 5 (29:39):
Tournament is at Ritter. They laid it through the on
the play.
Speaker 1 (29:44):
From O'Brien just too far connecting there very close, but
no Cigar there along the boards on the near side
over to try and pick it up.
Speaker 5 (29:56):
On the wing.
Speaker 1 (29:56):
Down in the corner, Gorbatanco is out with Sam back defensively.
It's Finusio and Kotlowski. Minnesota comes in over.
Speaker 5 (30:05):
The line, shot in and out of the glove.
Speaker 1 (30:07):
Graham had fired it and Aba McNaughton tried to glove
that one, but it's just trickled away from her moving
it in.
Speaker 5 (30:15):
Lookout, there's a blast.
Speaker 1 (30:17):
They had a back door pass potentially to Puffy breaking
in on the far wing, but the play didn't work
around on the far side.
Speaker 5 (30:25):
It's going to be set up.
Speaker 1 (30:26):
Minnesota with pressure played around and action's going to be stopped.
How many times over the years where you see one team.
Speaker 5 (30:33):
Totally out shooting the other, Yeah, having possession of the puck,
and all of a sudden the other team scored right right.
Speaker 6 (30:40):
You know, it doesn't take much, you know, it's not
how many shots you gets, how many go in.
Speaker 1 (30:46):
Right base off coming up lindsay, hopefully the Gophers don't
go in with one right face.
Speaker 5 (30:51):
Off in the Badger zone back in behind.
Speaker 1 (30:54):
Minnesota trying to handle it. But Badgers working up ice
wasn't Evitch cuttins in of it. The line with enright
Wasnavitch circles in that centers and right out in front
back just why by Edwards, nice play, good effort thereby
was Nevitch of the Badgers around on the far side
holds the zone in front was Nevich carries it around
(31:17):
on the play over the Harvey quickly over to Edwards
playing defense back over the Harvey. Harvey between the dots,
shot right on block, trying to get some eyes in
front of that goaltender and shield her a bit. Laid
around down to the corner, around over to en right.
Badgers work the wing on the near side, and it's
going to go all the way back to the blue
(31:38):
line of Wisconsin one fifty four, remitting in the period
Badgers wasn't neviage whistle and play is going to be
stopped at the Minnesota.
Speaker 6 (31:45):
Blue boy was really plays with a lot of speed,
doesn't She just generates a lot of activity with that
fast pac of hers.
Speaker 1 (31:55):
Talking about Sera was nevitch out a cochran al Burr.
She is now in her senior year in her career
sixty eight points, and it's going to be set up
and control the Minnesota looking to come out of their
own zone play at centa Rice and the puck played
(32:16):
back down in the corner. Minnesota and Wisconsin scoreless year
in the first period and the movie get up Ice
controlling it. Wisconsin comes through neutral in a hurry, controlling.
Speaker 5 (32:28):
It down to the corner.
Speaker 1 (32:30):
Is Hall haul back out on top bears a shot
by Jungles back door downs Graham of scandal in front
of the net along with Eden, Yeah, Eden controlling the
puck on the far side intended for scannal and it
comes back over to Centerris knocked down on the neutral
zone and driven back down in behind the net, going
(32:51):
back over free Morano with it Freemorano head mannicut to
the Wisconsin line, picked up by Murrow. Warrow comes in
and risk it a shot high and over the glass
and not of play.
Speaker 6 (33:04):
Yeah, that one got away from her, took off. Yeah,
they're gonna face it off here to the left of
Ava and I'm not sure who's going to take the
draw for us, but it looks like.
Speaker 5 (33:17):
Casey O'Brien might be in the circle. Yep.
Speaker 1 (33:20):
O'Brien leads the country with points and assists. She had
sixty two points forty two assists on the air. She
had seventy three points last year. She's got fifteen points
in her last ten games for Ronal the far side
and it's going to be turned back coming in over
the line with it as Hubert Hubert pulling up and
(33:42):
a backhander is taken and player round of the far side.
We're down to thirty five seconds remitting in the period
and a Minnesota holding the attacking zone. Badgers play it
out and try to set it up coming in over
the line. Sims on the play over the O'Brien. O'Brien
in the slot, it's held in by Edwards. Shot Oh,
(34:04):
just wide, just missed the cornerby at back over to
Venusio on the near side. One touching it on the pass.
It's O'Brien from Edwards. They put it in the slot,
nobody home, sims over to pick it up. Got about
four seconds before the end of the period, and that's.
Speaker 5 (34:21):
Gonna do it.
Speaker 1 (34:23):
We come to the end of the first period of
play and we're scorling between the Minnesota and Wisconsin Greeny.
Speaker 6 (34:30):
Your thoughts, Well, they got shots at thirteen to three.
I think Minnesota had more than that, but it doesn't matter.
It's a close contest. It's zero either way, and we're.
Speaker 1 (34:40):
Gonna take a break. This is Wisconsin Badger Women's Hockey
AC During the intermission, a special interview with Mark Johnson.
Normally we do him in the pre game, and we
will continue to do that, but we want to talk
(35:01):
about the seniors and Mark, first of.
Speaker 4 (35:04):
All, as a coach, what's senior weekend like for you?
Speaker 2 (35:09):
Uh, It's it's good, it's rewarding, but yet you know,
when they drop the puck, you have to be ready
to play. I mean it's I would imagine coach most
coaches don't like distractions, and but it's it's a good distraction.
I mean, you want to recognize the kids that have
meant so much to your program, that have been there
for a long period of time, that have been successful.
Speaker 3 (35:31):
And so it's a way in.
Speaker 2 (35:33):
Front of our fans, in front of their families, we
can you know, thank them.
Speaker 3 (35:37):
But the most important thing is when.
Speaker 2 (35:38):
We're done with all of them and uh we get
ready that we're ready to play, because obviously Minnesota is good.
Speaker 3 (35:44):
And you've got to be ready to play from the
get go.
Speaker 1 (35:46):
Overall, we'll talk about them individually and have you give
a comment on them, but overall, how is this group
in your mind of seniors performed and.
Speaker 4 (35:55):
What do you think about when you'll think about these
sixth players.
Speaker 2 (35:59):
I think, you know, collectibly, as a group, they've all
gotten better. They had high aspirations when they came in
here to not only win games, but to try to
win championships and individually get better. And I think as
I look at all of them, they've been able to
do it. You know, some you know, took it to
(36:20):
real high levels. Some you know, stayed within what they're
able to do and got better and helped the team win.
And so very successful group, and they have a lot
to be proud of.
Speaker 4 (36:31):
Okay, we'll take them one at a time. Lacey, Yeah,
she she.
Speaker 3 (36:36):
Came to US mid semester and.
Speaker 2 (36:39):
She's a kid that's driven, wants to play in the
national team, wants to play in the Olympics. Has gotten
that opportunity to do that. Her next step is to
try to make the Olympic team next year. And I
don't think there's a player that we've had here at
Wisconsin that's worked any harder individually. They try to improve
(37:04):
her skill level to to really take it to the
next level.
Speaker 3 (37:07):
As Lacey has done.
Speaker 2 (37:08):
She works extremely hard, very driven, very focused, and has
had a wonderful career here. Mary Anne Percard, Yeah, her
first season, you know, she had a knee issue and
ended having surgery and worked herself back and you know,
went from being a fourth liner to be consistently one
(37:29):
of our you know, top nine forwards now. And I
always got a smile on her face. Does a great
job in the classroom. Love when she scores goal because
she smiles quite big, and you know she scored, and
so a very energetic young lady. And again has done
a great job and gotten better and had to fight
(37:51):
through some adversity to get to where she is.
Speaker 1 (37:53):
Today, we're chatting with Mark Johnson about the senior Sarah
was nvitch.
Speaker 2 (37:58):
Yeah, it's just when you watch Swas play, I mean,
she's got great speed, she's got a real good shot,
does a great job for us now on our penalty
kill because of her speed and her ability to attack
the puck. And so again similar to I think all
the kids in this class has gotten better. She's had
(38:20):
several opportunities with Team Canada, getting to play with the
national team and some of the rivalry games and things
like that. So when she leaves us, she'll still have
some hockey to be played. I'm sure one day we'll
watch her in the PWHL if she chooses to go
down that path. But again, similar to a card where
always has a smiler face, always comes to work and
(38:42):
it gives you one hundred percent and gets rewarded for
a lot of her efforts.
Speaker 4 (38:46):
Katie Kadlowski, Yeah, Katie, she's in her fifth year.
Speaker 2 (38:51):
You know, she would start of humming and han where
she was going to graduate and move on into the world,
but decided she wanted one more year. And so she's grown,
she's developed, she's done a great job in the classroom,
and we called upon her to play, whether it's short
minutes or a lot of minutes, she's been able to
(39:12):
do that, and so it's it's wonderful to watch her
grow on and off the ice and certainly going to
miss her when she leaves us.
Speaker 4 (39:21):
I'm gonna save Casey for last and Quinn.
Speaker 2 (39:24):
Cons Yeah, I mean, when Jane decided to transfer to Vermont,
you know, we needed to find a goalie and started to,
you know, talk to Quinn and you know, she had
another year left to play in the league and to
play college hockey, and we were happy and excited that
she chose to come here. Probably hasn't played as many
(39:46):
games as she would like to, but she's a wonderful teammate.
She practices very hard and done a great job for
us in that role.
Speaker 1 (39:56):
Yeah, she can be an inspiration for others. Exactly what
you were saying is you come in and you don't
get a chance to play that much, but you just
make that contribution day in.
Speaker 4 (40:06):
And day out.
Speaker 2 (40:07):
You do, and that's that's important in a team atmosphere
because there's all the game still sixty minutes has always
been sixty minutes unless you go into overtime, and so
everybody's going to play different amounts of minutes. And then
you know, if you're second and third goalies, you know
have to be ready. And that's the hard part is
because you never know what's going to happen in this
business from day to day. And if I all of
(40:27):
a sudden, I get an opportunity, I'm not prepared for
that opportunity.
Speaker 3 (40:31):
You know, shame on me.
Speaker 2 (40:32):
And so those here and Chloe, you know, it's a
tough role to play and are you going to are
you going to be good at your role? And she's
great at her role, and you know it generally has
a smile and her face comes to practice and gives
us one hundred percent and makes the team better because
of that.
Speaker 1 (40:50):
Save the last one. I don't know how you analyze
the success of this young lady from when she first
came in here to now, Casey O'Brien.
Speaker 2 (41:00):
Yeah, she's she's been consistent, she's been good, and she's
gotten better and so it's it's been a pleasure to
watch her grow, not only on the ice, but off
the ice. And you know, being one of our captains
adds more responsibility to your daily routine because you not
only have to be concerned about getting yourself ready to play,
(41:22):
you have to be concerned about your teammates and keeping
everybody on the same page, which in today's environmental is
challenges and as it's ever been. And so she's become
a very good two hundred foot player. I know that
early in her career that was one of the things
that she wanted to work on. Unless she's become that,
and you know, her numbers speak for herself, and her
(41:44):
consistency speaks for herself. And when she's playing good, we're
real good. And so hopefully she continues to play well
here the last month and a half.
Speaker 5 (41:56):
And we're back at Lebon Arena.
Speaker 1 (41:58):
Those are the comments of more Mark Johnson talking about
the sixth seniors that we're honored here yesterday preceding the
game where Wisconsin bet Minnesota by a score of eight
to two, and Macy O'Brien needs two points to give
her two hundred and fifty career points and she would
(42:18):
be the second person in Wisconsin women's hockey to accomplish
that feed and there's I don't think there's any doubt
before the end of the season, she's going to get
to that point, and we will also have you will
have the opportunity to hear from Casey O'Brien.
Speaker 5 (42:35):
We recorded an interview with her earlier this.
Speaker 1 (42:37):
Week, talking about her career, why she came to Wisconsin,
how she has felt about the way the team and
her have performed, and she kind of looks ahead to
what her future may hold inside and outside of the
game of hockey, and that interview will be coming up
during our second intermission. Also would like to take this
(42:59):
opportunity to remind the listeners of a promotion that we've
got going throughout the hockey season, both on the men
and the women's broadcasts, and that is Goals for a Cure.
It's basically an educational campaign about the disease of Alzheimer's
to give you just some basic background and information. And
(43:23):
it's a disease that's affecting a lot of people and
is getting worse day and year after year, and it's
going to be a very serious issue down the road.
And there's a number of sportscasters that you may be
familiar with that are dealing or have dealt with the disease.
I lost my wife Karen to the disease, but Matt Lepey,
(43:46):
voice of the Badgers in football and basketball, Brian Posik
who does hockey on the men's broadcasts, along with Mike
Keller who's on daily radio shows, and iHeartMedia throughout the
state of Wisconsin, Wayne Levering of the Milwaukee Brewers, and
Jim Pashke who used to be here in Madison years
(44:07):
ago and for about forty years was the voice of
the Milwaukee Bucks. All of us have dealt with the disease,
and what we're doing is just trying to educate the
public about it, to make you aware of some of
the things about the disease, resources that you can use
or be aware of. Unfortunately, if you or someone you
(44:30):
know gets involved with it. At the same time, we're
doing a fundraiser for it. We have a twenty thousand
dollars match that is available to us. One hundred percent
of the proceeds go to the research center and the
School of Medicine at the UW one hundred percent of
(44:50):
the money, So it gives you an opportunity to donate
whatever you can to those that have Thank you very much.
Speaker 5 (44:58):
We appreciate that donate.
Speaker 1 (45:00):
If you're so inclined and would like to do it
in the future, just go to goals for Acure dot org.
Speaker 5 (45:08):
Goals for acre dot org. All of the details.
Speaker 1 (45:13):
About how you can donate and to learn more about
the disease are there. And again to the people that
have participated, thank you very much. If you're so inclined
you want to get twenty five fifty one hundred bucks whatever,
that's a match and it means double whatever you give.
Our goal when we started the season was about forty
(45:35):
thousand and we're not there yet.
Speaker 5 (45:38):
But the main part is just to make you aware
of the disease.
Speaker 1 (45:42):
And we'll be back with the second period between the
Minnesota and Wisconsin.
Speaker 5 (45:47):
This is Badger women's.
Speaker 1 (45:49):
Hockey and we're back at lebon Arena along with Mark Greenhall.
I'm Paul Brown set to bring you the second period.
Speaker 5 (46:07):
Here.
Speaker 1 (46:07):
We are scoreless after twenty minutes of play between the
Gophers and the Badgers, and Greeney as far as strategy
is concerned, what was going on in a discussion.
Speaker 5 (46:18):
Down there in the locker room.
Speaker 6 (46:19):
Well, the coach just said, let's get fusing deep, get
it down to the goal line, and then go forward.
Speaker 5 (46:24):
Check and get it.
Speaker 6 (46:25):
That's what we did well yesterday in the second period,
and we want to see more of that today.
Speaker 1 (46:29):
Sims will open up on the left side along with
O'Brien for the Badgers, Harvey and Jungles back defensively Scandal
on the right side. Minnesota will open with Connor along
with Hubert and Murphy as they match up the number
one lines, and the Gophers carry it coming in over
the line. Here's Murphy on her off wing backhander, just
(46:51):
deflected in front of the goal around on the play,
Abby Murphy trying to chase it down, Jungles with it
around the boards, Badgers with it, Sims tried to clear it,
Minnesota holds his own shot by Connor, blocked by Harvey.
Harvey is taken down and Minnesota sets it up. They
work it in and they fire a shot that's blocked
(47:12):
out in front by Jungles, picked up by Harvey and
controlled in the neutral zone. Badgers try to work it ahead,
but it's driven into the glove of Ava McNaughton, who
put it away. Thirteen to four in shots at this
point in the game, and Wisconsin and Minnesota, though nobody
up on the board with a score here, no in
(47:34):
the second period, the Badgers have outscored their opponents fifty
five to fourteen. Minnesota has scored thirty two. In alound
twenty one based off to the right side of Ava McNaughton.
The draw comes to the point and the Gophers wolf
firement wide of the net. Gorbatankle on the far side
plays it out over the center ice. Gophers drive it
(47:56):
back in. McNaughton shuffled it off behind that at the
Badgers look to break it out.
Speaker 5 (48:02):
They'll come up to near wing and at center ice.
Speaker 1 (48:05):
The puck comes loose and Badgers try to chase it
down with Gorbatanco and Eden. Minnesota transition and nice spor
check take it away by Hall. Hall's got eaten and
Gorbatanco they are tied up together, can't get off a drive.
Gorbatanko got too deep around over the Hall works the
wing back to the point of the play over the
(48:27):
Venusio comes around over to Kotlowski with a drive.
Speaker 5 (48:31):
Nice shot.
Speaker 1 (48:31):
Graham blackball flint right through the blue ice there and
just wide of the goaltender Clark.
Speaker 5 (48:39):
Badgers try to hold his zone and haul with it.
Birks the wing.
Speaker 1 (48:43):
Minnesota knocks that down the puck is going to be
played back down to the Badger's zone. Eighteen seventeen remaining
and whistle and play is going to be stopped.
Speaker 6 (48:54):
Well, that was a nice play when kott Lewski took
that shot from the right point and Gorbatanko was right
there to with the rebound.
Speaker 5 (49:00):
This close activity around the net. I like it.
Speaker 1 (49:03):
Kan Lawski hasn't scored a goal in twenty eight games
for the Badgers so far she's played in this year.
Based off coming up just outside the blue line of
Wisconsin Adam, Minnesota will drive it around the boards on
the far side, trying to chip it out.
Speaker 5 (49:19):
It's en right.
Speaker 1 (49:21):
Edwards comes over to pick it up, skates out on
the near boards, firing at a half on the lead
over to end right in Waznevitch and the shot tipped
by enright to the point on the play. Wisconsin comes
around over to Edwards. They bang it out of the
zone and Minnesota goes back to pick it up and
deal clear coming up by Kasabad and the Gophers in
(49:42):
the neutral zone bring it in over the Wisconsin line.
O'Hara with a drive and that went up against the Nettigan.
Play is going to be stopped. Yeah, pretty fast activity
here right away, seventeen forty three, remaining fourteen to five
in shots. Badgers had a big edge in face offs
(50:03):
in the first period, winning fourteen to Minnesota with five
face off coming up to the right side of mcnonten
as she looks out from goal. Matchup of numbers twenty
six is O'Brien along with Huber and the draw coming
to the point Minnesota will hold it in. They play
it back in behind it at on the far side
(50:23):
of the McCarthy over to Edwards, played it past the official,
Edwards firing it out on the break, hits O'Brien, skating
it in shut.
Speaker 5 (50:32):
All one arm.
Speaker 6 (50:33):
She drew a penalty though I think did Oh she's
down along the end wall, though I don't like that.
Speaker 5 (50:38):
And then there's a check from behind by Morrow. Maybe
a second call there should be nobody needs that. Yep.
Speaker 1 (50:49):
Well, let's see if they call one or two penalties.
That was really a cheap shot.
Speaker 6 (50:53):
Yeah, O'Brien slow getting up, she's on her feet, but
I think she's okay. But we slid into the end
wall pretty good there.
Speaker 5 (51:05):
But I agree with you.
Speaker 6 (51:05):
I thought that second person in or you know, was
even more unnecessary on behalf of the gophers there. But
they're only gonna sit the one we just got Moro
in the box.
Speaker 5 (51:18):
At this point, I think they got a second penalty.
They might.
Speaker 6 (51:28):
Yeah, I couldn't quite hear it. It wasn't clearly audible
to me, but I think you're right, Paul. I think
they might be putting another gopher in the box.
Speaker 5 (51:43):
We'll see. Maybe not so far.
Speaker 1 (51:48):
They have the one penalty up on the clock and
we're looking at the official stats.
Speaker 5 (51:55):
They're going to take a look at it. Maybe, Yeah,
I think what we're gonna do so that would give the.
Speaker 1 (52:01):
Badgers an opportunity, uh potentially here there's a time out.
Speaker 5 (52:05):
We'll take a break. We'll be right back. This is
Wisconsin Badger women's hockey. We got about moving it up ice.
Speaker 1 (52:14):
Here comes O'Brien on the penalty shot and over the.
Speaker 5 (52:17):
Blue line, moving in on the goaltender and a backhander.
Speaker 6 (52:21):
And Clark wasn't sure she had it or not, Paul
up O'Brien almost slid a backhander in there, but.
Speaker 5 (52:30):
The goalie got a pad on it.
Speaker 1 (52:32):
But they're still gonna have a power play opportunity here
as Morrows in the penalty box.
Speaker 5 (52:42):
So Brian is, okay, that's that's important to see. Let's
see if the Badgers can do something on the power play.
We're still scoreless year. Yeah, we're over one so far
on the pp today.
Speaker 1 (52:55):
Face off coming to the right side of Morrow and
it's going to be set up on the power play
over the Sims cleared from her stick and the Badgers
trying to hold it in down on the corner of
the right side, but the Gophers dump it back. The
length of the ice goes in behind the net. Harvey
will pick it up for the Badgers. Harvey with it,
(53:15):
shuffles it around over there where Brian's fading up ice.
O'Brien comes in over the line. Edwards holds it in,
Edward's looking for help and the Minnesota trying to bring
it out. Sims gets it back over to Edwards. Edward's
moving right out in front intended for Eden. Back over
to sim and a shot and it's wide. O'Brien had
(53:36):
an open net there, back over to Harvey. Harvey with
it back over the Sims got past her stick down
in the corner. Badgers look to set it up and
there's another head in front of the nat and let's
see what we've got here. A Badger is gonna go
to the penalty box.
Speaker 5 (53:55):
Yeah, taking Edwards to the box right now, So words.
Speaker 1 (54:00):
Goes that's going to nullify the power play opportunity three
twenty eight at the time of the penalty here in
the second period, I'm.
Speaker 5 (54:11):
Not sure what the call was on Edwards.
Speaker 7 (54:13):
Call cross you's a crosscheck and it sounds like they're
going to review it.
Speaker 1 (54:28):
Edwards is coming out of the box, yeah, so they
can get a closer look at the video there. That's
two reviews in a short period of times, Yes, and
sixteen thirty two remaining here in the second period, and
we'll take a thirty second break and be right back.
Speaker 5 (54:52):
Back with Mark Greenhall. I'm Paul Brown Here.
Speaker 1 (54:54):
We're at lebon Arena where we are scoreless in the
second period of play shots.
Speaker 5 (55:00):
From sixteen to five of the game. We only had
one penalty called in the first period. The Badgers didn't
convert on.
Speaker 1 (55:06):
The power play, and we've had a couple of penalties
called in a short period of time here in the
second period. The penalty against Leila Edwards they are looking
at to determine Hopefully.
Speaker 5 (55:20):
That's only a two minute call.
Speaker 1 (55:22):
Moro's in the box for Minnesota and there's one ten
remitting on the penalty time tomorrow.
Speaker 6 (55:28):
Yeah, we'll have four and four for a while and
then we'll see, depending upon how long a penalty they issue.
Speaker 1 (55:35):
Leila Edwards, she took somebody down in front of the net.
They're boeing, So let's see what that call is going
to be.
Speaker 2 (55:53):
Or No.
Speaker 5 (55:54):
Number ten two minutes, two minutes? Ye, cross checking, cross
checking the call. Yep. Well let's see how four on
four it was only two? Yeah, yeah, I don't know
what was in question there, but they looked at it
quite a while.
Speaker 1 (56:13):
Dan cooked along with Jackie Crumb over in the Badger
bench and Mark getting an explanation there.
Speaker 5 (56:20):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (56:21):
Mark now six and fifty seven wins in his career,
the all time winning his coach on the University of
Wisconsin campus.
Speaker 5 (56:29):
Well, if fans aren't happy with that call, Paul, and
as you can.
Speaker 1 (56:33):
Hear, yeah, seven national titles for Mark and the team,
ten WCHA regular season titles and ten playoffs championships in
the WCHA. Maybe that'll fire up Wisconsin here right now,
as you mentioned, we're four on four plus goaltenders yep
for one ten and then the Gophers will have a
(56:56):
power play opportunity.
Speaker 5 (56:57):
A lot of space out there.
Speaker 1 (56:58):
Got it over to try and sat up Wisconsin working
it up ice, controlling it.
Speaker 5 (57:02):
Harvey fires it through. Nice pass, hit the stick.
Speaker 1 (57:06):
Of O'Brien on the move. O'Brien back to the point,
over the Jungles. Jungles comes around on the play, over
the Harvey, Harvey just inside the line, over to O'Brien,
back over to Harvey. Harvey circling just inside the blue Lion.
Harvey with a shuffle, good back on the play. It
comes to Jungles Man Jungles shut.
Speaker 5 (57:28):
Jungle get the through of the years. Second day in
two days.
Speaker 1 (57:35):
Wisconsin scores four on four and they laid it one
to nothing.
Speaker 6 (57:41):
Just a gorgeous rocket wrist shot from above the right dot.
She's a left hander and just kind of like yesterday,
she beat the goalie alongside today. Gorgeous goal by Vivian
Jungles to put us up one old man. That was
gorgeous shot, quick pass from O'Brien, beautiful play.
Speaker 5 (58:01):
Wow Bour on four goal. Wow O'Brien and Caroline Harvey
get assists on the goal. It was good to see
that one man and the back over to set it up.
Speaker 1 (58:14):
Oh, now we've got maybe a penalty come up against Minnesota.
Speaker 6 (58:18):
Yeah, somebody tripped Sims. A golfer is going to go
to the box.
Speaker 5 (58:22):
For that right now. Wow, hard to keep all these
penalties straight fall And that comes h four oh six
into the period.
Speaker 1 (58:34):
So we've had a penalty at two thirty eight three
twenty eight four h six.
Speaker 5 (58:41):
Lightoning goes into the box.
Speaker 1 (58:43):
So thirty two seconds remaining on the penalty, time to
borrow one, two reminting of the penalty, time to Edwards
and now two minutes up on the board for lightening.
Speaker 6 (58:58):
So we got bour on three now, so you get
a lot of spice out there to work with.
Speaker 1 (59:02):
Uh and with that assist, Harvey has now set a
new record for defensive scoring for Wisconsin. Fifty points around
on the far side over the Harvey works the wing
back out over the sims with a drive that's blocked
over to O'Brien. O'Brien with it back out on top
over the Sims with a shot.
Speaker 5 (59:22):
Went wid Oh man, she's over two. Try it again.
There's a shot deflected away. That one was right on
that block received.
Speaker 1 (59:32):
But it's going to be played back down to the corner.
Wisconsin holding the zone, comes over to Harvey. Harvey off
on the play and it.
Speaker 5 (59:39):
Moves to Sims shot ago, Sims gets the corner. All
of that gets the goal set there and was touching lads,
a tone of nothing. Man.
Speaker 6 (59:55):
That was just a gordeous shot by Sims. Beats the
goaltender on the glow side from the mid slot on
a quick pass I think from O'Brien. Again, just some
beautiful puck movement to precede that gorgeous goal there.
Speaker 1 (01:00:13):
And we still have penalty times up on the board. Yeah,
Edwards will come out in forty six seconds in one
twenty four, remitting in the time the lightening.
Speaker 5 (01:00:25):
So we continue to play four on four. Yeah, back
to four on four Paul and.
Speaker 1 (01:00:31):
The puck in the neutral zone, played back down in
the corner over the venusio, with it around to the
play over Tosnevitch Oznevitch coming up ice coming out of
the zone through neutral.
Speaker 5 (01:00:43):
Osnavitch can skate man touch it on the.
Speaker 1 (01:00:45):
Left wing, pulls up, plays it back over the jungles
at the point, comes it around over the venusio Venusio
give and go over the Hall All with a puck
in the corner, back over the try and pick it
Upznevitch and Hall try to control that. Minnesota turned, they'll
come up Ice and they come in over the Wisconsin line.
(01:01:08):
In about eight seconds, the Badgers will have a short
power play opportunity. Hall with it because Edwards is coming
out of the box right now. They caught the shot
kick saved by Ava McNaughton. Badgers with a power player
back up Ice, Venusio with it, wires it through Tosnevitch,
Wasnevitch down to.
Speaker 5 (01:01:28):
The corner, back over to Hall, and Hall whips.
Speaker 1 (01:01:32):
It around off the back wall, around on the far side,
over to O'Brien, back out on top, over to Harvey.
Harvey comes around on the play over the Kotlowski shot
knocked down by Graham. Minnesota jams at it, tries to
bring it out and the buck is loose at the
blue line of the Gophers near boards at center Ice.
Wisconsin tried to play it ahead with the Gophers.
Speaker 5 (01:01:55):
We'll jump it back in and both teams are back
at well strac to five on five.
Speaker 1 (01:02:00):
Dadlowski controlling it there in thirteen forty six, remaining in
the periad Wisconsin around on the far side, chipped away,
picked up by Franco. Franco plays it in behind McNaughton
around over the Harvey, Harvey around of the play, over
the Kotlowski, back over the Harvey.
Speaker 5 (01:02:18):
Arvey works behind the.
Speaker 1 (01:02:19):
Wisconsin net and with it the pass comes out to
the stick of Eden. She fired at about sixty feet
and put it right on the stick around on the
far side, over to Edon, down in the corner on
the right wing boards thirteen sixteen, remaining two to nothing
Wisconsin here in the second and backing it up over
(01:02:40):
to Edwards, heading and over the line over to O'Brien Ana, Minnesota,
goes back and over There'll set it up and puppy
with it on the lead in the neutral zone. The
badger's trying to control it. Gophers around on the far side.
Speaker 5 (01:02:54):
Murphy turns and drives it in and Ava McNaughton put
it away. Yeah, it's it's uh.
Speaker 6 (01:03:03):
That was quite a flurry there, with the different combinations
of four on four and four on three and five
on four, and now we're back to regular five on
five with a face off to the left of Ava.
Speaker 5 (01:03:15):
Hurst and sims from Lacy and.
Speaker 1 (01:03:18):
O'Brien getting a simp on that goal. Man, it's night
be covered up in front of the goal. Play is
going to be stopped.
Speaker 6 (01:03:43):
And we got Murphy's engaged in the conversation with one
of the officials there. I don't know what she's saying,
but well that she does a lot. Yeah, and I
think they're going to march into the box, Paul.
Speaker 1 (01:03:56):
Yeah, Well that isn't the first time we've seen that happen,
but happen all the series up there.
Speaker 5 (01:04:05):
Yeah, and I'll tell you what, she's a very talented
she sure is.
Speaker 1 (01:04:09):
But on the other hand, you can't help your team
when you're independentty box.
Speaker 6 (01:04:15):
No worse than your teammates. To play a person short
is not a good idea.
Speaker 1 (01:04:20):
Thirty fifth a Sister of the year for Harvey and
Eden on the goal for twenty second of the year.
So the Badgers get a power play opportunity.
Speaker 5 (01:04:31):
See what we can do with it here, Paul. Maybe
another goal would keep her quiet.
Speaker 6 (01:04:35):
Yeah, that'd be nice. That O'Brien going to take the
draw in the face off circle.
Speaker 1 (01:04:40):
Twelve minutes and forty one seconds remaining and we'll have
the official and their coach is really fired up.
Speaker 5 (01:04:48):
Yeah he is.
Speaker 6 (01:04:48):
Froston's really in the midst of a conversation there with Ludwig, the.
Speaker 5 (01:04:54):
Head referee there. They're going, come on, let's play hockey. Yep, exactly.
Speaker 6 (01:05:00):
The bands are pretty uh into it here there. They
are into a packed house, the sunshine and got the
UW band playing great atmosphere, and.
Speaker 5 (01:05:08):
We'll have the face off.
Speaker 1 (01:05:09):
Coming up to the right side of Hannah Clark and
the Badgers with an opportunity on the power play, comes
around on the near side and controlling it over to
Sims back door on the play, Oh, Brian over to Edwards,
jamming at it, puck game, losing, Sims still alive, still
on Sims around the boards on the near side. Sims
(01:05:31):
controlling it, fires a e shot the goal.
Speaker 5 (01:05:36):
He left it into the upper left corner of the
after twenty man power play goal for the Badgers and
a trade or nothing.
Speaker 6 (01:05:45):
Laid take that handing her feet, you know, Sims is
timed to perfect on the past she saw eating the
right hand. Are standing in the mid slot one time
that banged for a clean beat on the tender for
our third goal of the day. This is beautiful, nice
power play goal by Lacy from simms.
Speaker 5 (01:06:08):
Man. Gotta love it.
Speaker 6 (01:06:11):
Paul, you bet let's take that way you're Murphy that.
Speaker 5 (01:06:17):
Oh yeah, you set them off. Pull there, Paul played
back down in the corner, oh twelve thirteen, remaining here
around on the far side.
Speaker 1 (01:06:26):
Over the try and pick it up. Fan control the
puck loose down in the corner, got the Badgers fired up,
Fan passing Evitch for the drive and the save is
made there.
Speaker 6 (01:06:36):
I'll take a shot off Waza's stick any day of
the week. Get a good hard shot.
Speaker 2 (01:06:45):
Wow.
Speaker 5 (01:06:48):
And Wisconsin with.
Speaker 1 (01:06:50):
Three up on the board here in this second period
of play three fifty eight poor forty three and seven
forty and Wisconsin over to try and control it, and
the movie get up ice and it's gonna be played
back down on the zone of Wisconsin. Back over to Harvey.
(01:07:12):
Harvey with it behind the goal, around over to Edwards.
Edwards with it, and Wisconsin will look to break it
out of the zone of the way.
Speaker 5 (01:07:20):
I had over to Wadsnavitch.
Speaker 1 (01:07:22):
She tipped it down and Minnesota goes back back in
behind the nap.
Speaker 5 (01:07:27):
Over trying to control it.
Speaker 1 (01:07:29):
Eleven thirty three remitting in the second period play in
the neutral zone, Badger's trying to pick it up. Gophers
come in over the line, whistle offside there and yep,
action's gonna be stopped.
Speaker 6 (01:07:43):
Well, yeah, it's quite a bit of activity here in
the last few minutes here and getting some gold production
out of the Badgers.
Speaker 5 (01:07:49):
Gotta love it. Gotta love it.
Speaker 1 (01:07:52):
Wisconsin looking for their twenty ninth win of the year
against one loss and two times. We'll have the face
off coming up, and that'll be just outside the blue
line of Wisconsin and both teams are back at full
strength and the draw comes around of the play and
(01:08:15):
Wisconsin with it. Kotlowski dumps it down in the corner
over trying to control it playing the nutral zone.
Speaker 5 (01:08:22):
Oh official went down. I was a little concerned there.
She's okay and back of it.
Speaker 1 (01:08:26):
A scandal, scandal on the play to haul with a
shot ribbon wide, Minnesota turning and coming back up Ice
controlling it coming in over the line. Minnesota pulls up
on the off side call and we'll have play stop
with eleven oh one remaining here in period number two.
Speaker 6 (01:08:44):
I like to see kott Lowski there stepping up to
the opposing player and keeping her to force wide.
Speaker 1 (01:08:50):
Badgers have cooots on defense that are not playing in
this game. Ava Murphy out and also Potter got a
shoulder injury.
Speaker 5 (01:09:03):
Yeah, he's out, Lany Potter yep.
Speaker 1 (01:09:05):
And so a couple of Badgers out of the lineup,
Zillish and bick at him are dressed and that.
Speaker 6 (01:09:13):
We see him before the day is over and move edwards.
Speaker 1 (01:09:17):
Back to defense, try and help out a little bit.
Had a scoreless first period here, but in the second
the Badgers have kind of turned it up a bit.
Speaker 6 (01:09:27):
Time of year, Paul, you really realize you need everybody, Yeah, exactly.
Developing that depth is critical.
Speaker 1 (01:09:32):
And the Badgers have been very fortunate from an injury
perspective for this year.
Speaker 5 (01:09:36):
Yeah, stayed pretty healthy so far. And it's going to
be Minnesota setting it up. Look out. They move it
in and there's a backhander shotting the goal by Connor Man.
That was a nice goal. Yeah. That was Connor's fourth
goal of the year. And Minnesota is on the board. Yeah.
Speaker 6 (01:09:54):
Kind of a dec righting of outside the blue paint
there with a back end of beat Evan on your
left side there.
Speaker 1 (01:10:04):
Nine thirty seven, the time of the goal. So Minnesota
is on the board here in the second period. All
the Badgers had a three to one lead last night,
and you again get that feel that the next goal here,
Badgers said take that lead back. The Minnesota counters and
closes the gap and it's going to be played. The
(01:10:26):
Gophers come back into the line controlling it. There's a
drive with wide of the goal, laid down in the corner,
wisconsint turning coming out of their own zone with it,
and the Badgers Harvey flipped it around on the far
side to clear it to the corner to get rid
of that pressure.
Speaker 5 (01:10:42):
Yeah, wisely chipped it out of the slot over.
Speaker 1 (01:10:44):
The lightning and coming back on the wing, Minnesota setting
it up. There's a drive and it's blocked backhanded Minnesota
with pressure here along the boards with nine fifty remaining
back out on top of the play and the fuck
is going to be turned away, Wisconsin moving it up ice.
They'll bring it in over the line as the Gophers
(01:11:05):
go back in be hot controlled it lighting and wing.
Badgers come out of their owns or Minnesota comes out
of their own zone in over the Wisconsin line trying
to break to the net there on the rush was
Lindsey back to the point of it tomorrow in front,
shot to steer it away, fired right on by him.
Minnesota with good pressure. Here comes out of the zone,
(01:11:26):
picked up by Waznavitch. One on one one Wasnavitch comes
int the line, Harvey with a drawn a little high
and wand there's a check along the pork gonna check
from behind by him, and we've got a gopher that's down.
We're gonna take a break. This is Wisconsin Badger hockey. Well,
(01:11:57):
we went through the first period and we only had
one penalty.
Speaker 5 (01:12:00):
But here is the second period.
Speaker 1 (01:12:03):
We've had let's see one, two, three, four, and in
writes in the penalty box for the Badgers, and they're
going to review it, yep, to see if it'll be
more than two because the check was along the board.
Speaker 5 (01:12:22):
Yeah, I did not see actually the severity of it
or the you know.
Speaker 1 (01:12:28):
We'll recap the scoring here because after one period of
play it was a scoreless game between Wisconsin and Minnesota.
And then at three point fifty eight of the period,
with a four on four situation, the Badger's got a
goal from Vivian Jungles, her second consecutive game in which
she scored a goal. She's now got three on the gear.
(01:12:49):
O'Brien picked up one assist for her it was assist
number forty three and for Harvey number thirty five and
Bennett four forty three. The Badgers got a nice goal
from Kirsten Simms and for her sixteenth goal of the year,
O'Brien her second assist of the game at her forty
fourth of the year, and also edon an assist her
(01:13:12):
twenty second of the year.
Speaker 5 (01:13:13):
That was a four on four.
Speaker 1 (01:13:15):
Then at seven forty the Badgers made it three to
nothing on a nice goal from Lacey Eden and her
twenty first goal of the year and O'Brien picking up
her thirty eighth assists of the year, and that's where
we stood.
Speaker 5 (01:13:31):
At that point. Then Minnesota counter then got a goal
from Connor and that came up at nine to thirty
seven of the period, and that's where we stand. Connor
Man Morol got an assist on that goal by Connor.
Speaker 1 (01:13:48):
So Minnesota now with a power playoff five minutes yep
I saw that fist go up, so a five.
Speaker 5 (01:13:56):
Minute penalty, so the check from behind Patow and an.
Speaker 1 (01:13:59):
Opport unity woe for Minnesota here to get back in
the game. As that five minute call, the Gophers are
going to go back to set it up and out
on the penalty kill is Eden along with O'Brien for
the Badgers, Harvey and Jungles Minnesota comes in oft of
the line, they'll control it along the boards. On the
near side, here's Moral with a drive and covering up
(01:14:22):
in front was Aba McNaughton.
Speaker 6 (01:14:26):
Boy, oh boy, this will seem like an eternity when
you're playing goal a five minute person short penalty killed.
Speaker 1 (01:14:32):
Four minutes thirty seven seconds remaining. Jungles is going to
go off for the Badgers and Venusio will come out
eaton remains out, so does Harvey and O'Brien.
Speaker 5 (01:14:44):
And the play coming up on the face off to
draw out of the point.
Speaker 1 (01:14:47):
On the near side, Anna Murphy with it with a drive,
went in behind the nap over to Harvey who slapped
it off the boards.
Speaker 5 (01:14:54):
Martin drove it to length of the ice. YEP four to.
Speaker 1 (01:14:58):
Twenty five aremitting on the penalty of the five minute
coal that went up against Dan right Badger's haul with
a one person for check coming in as was'nevitch wasn't Evitch,
forcing the play to Minnesota along the near boards. They'll
come up ice. Harvey skates back of it to set
it up. Harvey with it turned and flipped it up
(01:15:18):
the boards. It's blocked at the Minnesota line.
Speaker 5 (01:15:21):
By Morrow around on the far side, Gophers set it
up in the neutral zone.
Speaker 1 (01:15:26):
Abby Murphy plays it around on the boards, down over
the hemp amp down on the court on the near side,
back out on top. Around over there's a shot kicked
out by McNaughton. They try to center it, trying to
tip it. Wisconnor in front. Connor got to go to
the game. It's Murphy playing quarterback out on top. Murphy
(01:15:47):
controlling the puck, comes around on the play. Abby Murphy
comes on the plate. Tomorrow shot cover up by McNaughton. Yeah,
every save is huge here on this penalty kill. You know,
they're keeping the puck in our defensive end for a
while and the face off will come up to the
right side of Ava McNaughton, who's won forty seven games
(01:16:09):
in her career against four losses and two ties. Edwards
is out now for the Badgers along with Venusio on
the penalty kill, so is Edwards and Eden play down
on the corner on the near side of Minnesota with
a power play advantage three minutes twenty seconds remitting on
that penalty, a five minute call against enright lightening out
(01:16:31):
on top between the dots.
Speaker 5 (01:16:32):
Moving it in.
Speaker 1 (01:16:34):
They try to give it and go in front of
the net. Hope Notton watches the play around over to
weedon Eden back handing it out and we'll dump it
down the length of the ice. We're down to three
minutes remitting on the five minute call. Minnesota down three
to one to the Badger's Connor on the play coming
in over the Wisconsin line. Gophers set it up and
(01:16:56):
controlling it as Graham across and lightening with the drive
in the corner by Jungles on the play trying to
back handed out as McCarn Minnesota holds the zone out
on top, lighting and off on the play, there's a drive.
Speaker 5 (01:17:11):
They're poking it down. Is Aba McNaughton, and she's got
it beneath her paths.
Speaker 6 (01:17:17):
Yeah, she made the initial save. I'm glad she should
get that rebound and control it because there was two
Gophers right there on the doorstep in the blue paint
and they're way two remaining.
Speaker 1 (01:17:26):
Now in the five minute penalley three to one Wisconsin.
All of the goals here in the second period of play,
shots are twenty five to fifteen. Badgers need to kill
this off. Minnesota scores here. In fact, they could score
a couple of goals.
Speaker 5 (01:17:44):
Yeah, we don't want that to happen.
Speaker 1 (01:17:46):
And the draw goes back down in the corner of
the venusio and the Gophers set it up. They hold
the zone on the play, it's controlled by Huber and
it goes back over to Murphy. The fans booing Murphy.
Of course there's a shot, but on the goal for
the first shot over the Lindsay and it's that hostile shout.
Speaker 5 (01:18:06):
Here's O'Brien on her break in shorthand he shot the goal.
Speaker 8 (01:18:11):
Unreal, Oh Brian, Look the breakaway goal for the West
twenty burn out the years, oh wis cotch it legent
borno one.
Speaker 5 (01:18:25):
That was just pure effort.
Speaker 6 (01:18:27):
She forced the defenseman at the point to loose control
of the puck, and she outskated her through the neutral
zone into her offensive end, deeps in on the goalie
and beats her clean for a shorty to make the
score four to one. Unreal effort by O'Brien.
Speaker 1 (01:18:43):
Beautiful, beautiful goal, Absolutely fabulous.
Speaker 6 (01:18:46):
Man, that was fun to witness one wow.
Speaker 5 (01:18:50):
Just crazy.
Speaker 1 (01:18:51):
Yeah, and it's gonna be played back down to the corner.
Six Oh sabinary man. We have an interview with O'Brien,
the second.
Speaker 5 (01:18:59):
In her she's special, I tell you yeah, with up.
Speaker 1 (01:19:02):
Without a doubt, moving it up, Ice coming in over
the line, controlling. Get here's Hubert moving through. Oh good soda,
still with the power play advantage to the doorstep format.
Speaker 5 (01:19:14):
How about two Shorthanders on a power player.
Speaker 6 (01:19:16):
Well, now we're getting greedy, Paul, but I like it
and controlling.
Speaker 5 (01:19:20):
Get here's Cassie Hall moving it.
Speaker 1 (01:19:22):
Inasavige down in the corner, trying to control that.
Speaker 5 (01:19:27):
We're at five.
Speaker 1 (01:19:27):
Point thirty five and remaining listen to the Crown, loving
the efforts.
Speaker 5 (01:19:32):
I love it. The badger's here and whistle and action's.
Speaker 1 (01:19:35):
Going to be stopped, and we've got a penalty coming
up against Minnesota.
Speaker 5 (01:19:40):
I believe soul, Paul Interpearance, I believe. Wow.
Speaker 6 (01:19:45):
You know this was a real turning of events at Shorty.
Speaker 5 (01:19:48):
You know you're you're you're down. Oh for five minutes,
you're down Oros going to the penalty boss, I love it.
Speaker 6 (01:20:01):
So it'll be four on four because we're still working
on that chipping away that five minute.
Speaker 5 (01:20:07):
Correct. Yep. I think it's a non assisted goal for her. Yeah,
I believe so, yep.
Speaker 1 (01:20:17):
And and in the penalty boxes more old Minnesota and
she's been there for the her second trip.
Speaker 5 (01:20:25):
Yeah. And now the.
Speaker 1 (01:20:27):
Badger's uh, there's still though both teams are shorthanded a
person here and Wisconsin will set it up. But they've
been pretty effective four on four today.
Speaker 5 (01:20:37):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:20:38):
And here's Edwards around down on the corner on the
far side, back over the Jungles at the point. Jungles
controlling it down in the corner, lighting and pins her
against the boards, coming over Nicholson to help out Badger's
Jungles at the point. And she tried and did play
it along the boards that Minnesota will drive it back
(01:20:59):
down on the zone.
Speaker 6 (01:21:00):
Jungles is so heavy. She always makes the right play,
the right decision.
Speaker 5 (01:21:04):
Yeah. She's one of those people that you don't notice.
Speaker 6 (01:21:07):
A lot direct Yeah, she just does everything the right way.
Speaker 5 (01:21:10):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (01:21:10):
Real subtle smooth skater, real heavy player, makes great decisions
and is so effective.
Speaker 5 (01:21:17):
The chant of one two, three four. We won bore.
Speaker 1 (01:21:23):
I like the tone of that ball based off comeing
up back down on the zone of the Gophers, around
over to Whedon. Aden goes behind the net, around the
boards over to set.
Speaker 5 (01:21:33):
It up over to Harvey RV.
Speaker 1 (01:21:35):
Little given go to Wedon, back over to Harvey out
on top. Rvey gives it off on the play over
the Venusio moving it around. Here's Eden back of the
Venusio and Wisconsin controlling the puck.
Speaker 5 (01:21:48):
Harvey with it.
Speaker 1 (01:21:49):
Rvy pulls up and the moving it, eating with it,
moving it in shot, missed the good ship of.
Speaker 5 (01:21:56):
Shade up top, back over to Harvey, RVY side the line.
Wisconsin shot. Oh, they one hit the side of the nap. Yeah,
and Graham put her glove down and stopped the action.
Speaker 6 (01:22:07):
Boy, that was a hard shot by Venusio. At first
I thought that was going in. Nice effort by the
whole gang out there.
Speaker 1 (01:22:16):
So we've got Jungles with a goal, Sims with a goal,
Eating with a goal, and O'Brien with a goal.
Speaker 5 (01:22:23):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (01:22:24):
And then about thirteen seconds we're going to power play here, Paul.
Speaker 1 (01:22:28):
Yeah, but it'll only be about thirty seconds. Yeah, Yeah,
base off to the draw, coming over to.
Speaker 5 (01:22:33):
Set it up. Man with it.
Speaker 1 (01:22:34):
Edwards, Edwards on the play over to Harvey, Harvey, back
over to Edwards, back over to Harvey playing catch a
little bit hips back over to Edwards.
Speaker 5 (01:22:44):
And now the power play for the Badgers n right.
Speaker 1 (01:22:48):
Is going off the ice, moving it in Sims giving goal, Sims,
moving to the slot. Harvey comes over to.
Speaker 5 (01:22:54):
Pick it up. Harvey with it with a drive and
it went through the ride.
Speaker 1 (01:22:58):
Yeah, over to Edwards, back to the point on the
play comes around on the right side over the Sims.
Here's O'Brien moving it down in the corner of the right,
back over the Sims, out on top right wing boards,
skates low down deep in behind the net, looking for
the outlet on the pass they got eating in front
of the NAT. Back out on top over the Harvey
(01:23:19):
with a shot in front and poking at it.
Speaker 5 (01:23:22):
Edwards got too deep, couldn't get it toward the goal.
Aund there and the.
Speaker 1 (01:23:27):
Minnesota's back at full strength. We're down to three seventeen remitting.
They wave off the icing.
Speaker 5 (01:23:34):
And the play comes Minnesota in front. Mrole tried to
get off the drive and the Badgers bang it off
the boards, eating picks it up at center Rise comes
in over the line on the play over the Sims,
Sims walking it in with a drive back ender down
goes Sims in front of the.
Speaker 1 (01:23:53):
The net and Wisconsin along the far side with two
fifty remedting in the period and Wisconsin with a three
goal cushion. Here comes in over the line o'haro with
it centered at McNaughton in the blue ice put her away.
Speaker 5 (01:24:11):
Tell you a lot of action here, A lot of action.
Speaker 1 (01:24:18):
Thirty to sixteen shots on goal here in the second period.
Speaker 5 (01:24:22):
The total at this point. Oh.
Speaker 1 (01:24:25):
Here I in the face off circle against Percard and
Wisconsin over to try and pick it up, to clear
it back out over the center ice, coming back and
controlling it is kant Lawski on the wing over to
win right who had that five minute penalty call. Badgers
in their own zone come up ice controlling, get bringing
out of the zone per Card on the lead to
(01:24:47):
Waznevitch and then right the forward line out for the
Badgers behind the nap around on the far boards. They'll
set it up the jungles back over to Kantlowski with
a drive.
Speaker 5 (01:24:57):
I like it off the path of the gold tender.
Speaker 1 (01:25:00):
It came loose Wisconsin's was Nevitch on her knee back
Canada around the boards, but the Gophers will try to
clear it. They move it up ice and chase it
back down on the corner over to try and control
it to play along the boards as Minnesota sets.
Speaker 5 (01:25:16):
It up on the near side. On the play comes
out of.
Speaker 1 (01:25:19):
The zone on the pass from Graham four checking as
Wasnevitch along with Nright. Badgers try to hold the zone
in front of the Badger bench and her eyes.
Speaker 5 (01:25:29):
It's going to be picked up by.
Speaker 1 (01:25:31):
Casabad and Minnesota plays it in over the Wisconsin line.
Lindsey got it and Murphy'll make you not with it.
Gave it off on the pass over the Gorbatenko. Gorbetenko
goes along the back wall along with Hall. A couple
of players collided there. They let them separate. Nothing called
(01:25:53):
one point fifteen remitting in the period around on their
near side and the Badgers lush it out on the
play and jungles.
Speaker 6 (01:26:01):
With it because of the smart thing, stumps it in deep, you.
Speaker 1 (01:26:04):
Know, and playing it back with We're at the one
minute mark here in the second period, four to one,
Wisconsin coming around over to pick it up on the
boards as Minnesota turns, and they'll try to move it
up Ice and it goes all the way back down
to the Badger zone and was Nevitch picks it up
and she gives it off on the play over the
(01:26:25):
Harvey Harvey comes in a hurry through center Ice in
up of the line and the whistle and action's going
to be stopped at the blue line there.
Speaker 6 (01:26:34):
Harvey got building up speed pretty quickly there, didn't she yep,
carried the puck into the zone.
Speaker 5 (01:26:41):
It's not exactly a slow chugglugg as she holds up Ice. No,
not at all.
Speaker 1 (01:26:46):
You are correct based off coming up just outside the
blue line of the Gophers as Wisconsin with four different
players goals up today looking for that win number twenty
nine of the year and coming back into the line
controlling it. There's a drive whither than right on it
(01:27:08):
quick shot by Franco that was done nicely. Sim's on
the break over to McCarthy. They got Brobran moving to
the net. McCarthy down deep centered at nobody home. O'Hara
turns it away for Minnesota break the center eyes up
the right wing boards laid back down in the corner,
Benusio with it around over to Harvey back handing it
(01:27:30):
around on the near side near boards with it sim
and that's the end of the second period.
Speaker 6 (01:27:35):
Your thoughts on number two, man, I tell you we
we weathered through some different combinations, you know, a four
on four, four on three, five on four, four on
you know, and as I'm glad we killed off that five.
That was huge, especially scoring a shorty while we killed
it off.
Speaker 5 (01:27:51):
That was a big lift.
Speaker 6 (01:27:52):
And ironic that Enwright was in the box. She wouldn't
hurt a fly if it was down, and she goes
in for five minutes, you know, But a heck of
a period.
Speaker 1 (01:28:00):
All right, my friend, we'll be back. This is Wisconsin
Badger Women's hockey.
Speaker 5 (01:28:15):
Back during the intermission, Paul Brown with Casey O'Brien.
Speaker 1 (01:28:18):
Casey, we're recording this a little earlier in the week,
but I've been curious about your emotion and thoughts heading
into this whole weekend.
Speaker 9 (01:28:26):
Being a senior, I think, you know, any weekend we
play in Minnesota is an exciting one, but to match
it with senior weekend just makes it that much more special.
I think with all of us seniors, it's a little
bit bittersweet knowing you know, how exciting this is going
to be. Also, you know, we're nearing the end of
our time here with the Badgers, and so that's definitely
(01:28:46):
a little bit sad.
Speaker 10 (01:28:47):
But this weekend's going to be super special and I'm
really excited for it.
Speaker 4 (01:28:51):
I'm gonna break it down a little bit. How have
you grown as a player.
Speaker 9 (01:28:55):
As a player, Yeah, I think I came in, you know,
definitely green, you know, coming off of a strong team
like Shaddock. I think throughout my five years here, I've
become you know, full two hundred foot player where you know,
it's taken.
Speaker 10 (01:29:10):
Me a lot of time to kind of get there
and went by.
Speaker 9 (01:29:13):
Two hundred, but I mean, you know, solid in the dizone,
solid in the offense, you know, face offt out, whatever
it may be. And so I think just kind of
coming into a well rounded player has been the biggest
growth for me.
Speaker 4 (01:29:25):
How about the growth as a human being? What have
you learned here?
Speaker 9 (01:29:29):
God, I've learned so much, whether it's you know, lessons
from you know, like older players on the team or
just kind of going through different experiences that's.
Speaker 10 (01:29:38):
Taught me new things. Like I think I've really learned
a lot.
Speaker 9 (01:29:42):
It's hard to kind of put into words, but I've
definitely changed in my five years here, have matured so much,
And I think just a lot of the women on
the team who've come before me kind of taught me
that just by you know, interacting with me and learning
from them. And it's just been an experience that I
don't think I would have become who I am to
day without the Badger Hockey Program.
Speaker 4 (01:30:02):
What will you take away from those experiences that will
help you in the future as a human being, for.
Speaker 9 (01:30:08):
An example, Oh God, There's so much that I can
take away, But I think one thing that I could
probably take away the most is just that when you
have people in the support system, like my teammates here,
like you could kind of get through anything.
Speaker 10 (01:30:24):
I know now, like there's these people I can lean
on for the rest of my life.
Speaker 9 (01:30:28):
I think, you know, these are people I'm never going
to stop talking to, and so really just supporting them
and having their support can get you through anything.
Speaker 1 (01:30:38):
Has this the whole experience even go on beyond maybe
what your expectations were.
Speaker 4 (01:30:43):
When you came here.
Speaker 9 (01:30:45):
Yeah, I think it definitely has, Like, especially with the
extra year that's done a lot for me, and so
coming in, you know, you kind of only think about
the hockey. You know, you want to win national championships,
you want to get better as a player.
Speaker 10 (01:30:59):
Maybe you have goals past college.
Speaker 9 (01:31:01):
But it's kind of the off ie stuff that's really
going to stick with me and the people that I've met,
the friendships that I've made.
Speaker 10 (01:31:07):
I think, you know, some of these girls are like
my sisters.
Speaker 9 (01:31:10):
And you know they're gonna be like in my wedding someday,
and so those are the things I'm really going to
take away.
Speaker 4 (01:31:15):
What about the highlights you'll take away?
Speaker 9 (01:31:18):
I mean, I think there's kind of a two part
highlight reel when you know, it comes from the championships,
you know, like the big games that we pulled off,
maybe the comebacks.
Speaker 10 (01:31:29):
But then there's also the highlight reel off the.
Speaker 9 (01:31:31):
Ice of you know, the funny stuff, you know, like
going to coffee shops or maybe when we're watching game
shows before practice.
Speaker 10 (01:31:38):
Like there's kind of two different parts of that.
Speaker 9 (01:31:40):
And yeah, I'm not going to forget the little moments
off the ice with my teammates.
Speaker 1 (01:31:45):
In terms of saying, maybe if you had some goals
when you came here, did you reach them?
Speaker 10 (01:31:53):
I mean, I think the big one was the National Championship.
Speaker 9 (01:31:56):
I remember on my official visit, Emly Clark was here
and she was I think they're being the banner raising
for the twenty nineteen championship, and.
Speaker 10 (01:32:06):
She I was sitting with from the bench watching war.
Speaker 9 (01:32:08):
She told me You're gonna win two national championships and
I was like, all right, why not three? So I think,
you know, this year chasing a third. That's a big
one that I really I really want this one this year.
But the championships have been a huge thing. I haven't
been trying to focus too much on the individual success,
(01:32:29):
but you know, with being on such great teams, that
comes along with it. And so I think I've done
a lot that I wanted to do, but it's not
over yet and I'm hoping.
Speaker 10 (01:32:38):
To continue that.
Speaker 4 (01:32:39):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:32:39):
I think when you look down the road, and maybe
someday when you're relaxing with your feet up and you
look back on your career here in terms of what
you personally have accomplished, I.
Speaker 4 (01:32:49):
Think you're going to be pretty proud of what you're
looking at.
Speaker 9 (01:32:51):
Yeah, definitely, But I think all the personal accomplishments are
a testament to just how strong these teams have been.
And I think, you know, it's easy to not realize
it while I'm in it, but once it's over, I
think we're going to look back and see that these
five teams that I've been on, some of them have
been just as good as the best of the Badger teams.
(01:33:14):
And I think it's really special, and it's something that's
easy to take for granted in the moment, but I know,
looking back, it's going to be really special to just
see how good these teams really weren't how good my
teammates were.
Speaker 4 (01:33:24):
What would you tell a future young Badger about coming
here and play.
Speaker 10 (01:33:29):
If I could give advice, I would say, soak it in.
Speaker 9 (01:33:33):
I know everybody says, you know it's going to be
over before you know it, but really, don't take a
single practice, a single day for granted, a single you know,
hang out with a teammate, because it really does go
by so fast, and it feels like just yesterday that
I was a freshman coming to campus. And to think
that in a month or so, a month and a half,
(01:33:53):
it's going to be over, you know, I'm not going
to have any more practice this year. It's crazy to me,
and so I think, just you know, not taking anything
for granted and really being grateful for what you have
and what this place has to offer.
Speaker 1 (01:34:06):
Two part of it in terms of aspect is playing
and then as a human being in future, what's in
over your next horizon.
Speaker 9 (01:34:14):
Yeah, I think after this, there's the QWHL draft in June,
so I'll be declaring for that and hoping for the
best there. And then I want to play, I think,
as long as makes sense for myself, and hopefully do
some things with international play with USA Hockey if I'm.
Speaker 10 (01:34:34):
Fortunate enough to earn a spawn in any of those teams.
Speaker 9 (01:34:36):
But those are my two biggest I guess shorter term goals,
and then after my playing career, I also want to
stay within sports, preferably hockey, either working as a coach
or maybe more on the marketing side of things. But
I know that my passion is with hockey and I
want to stay around it.
Speaker 4 (01:34:55):
Sincerely, it's been a pleasure watching and play the best
of it.
Speaker 10 (01:34:58):
Thank you so much, Lebron.
Speaker 1 (01:35:05):
Back at Lebon Arena where we stand at the end
of two.
Speaker 5 (01:35:09):
Periods of play, the Wisconsin Badgers.
Speaker 1 (01:35:11):
With a four to one lead over the Golden Gophers
of Minnesota. It was scoreless after one period of play,
but in the second period, we had a number of
penalties called and we had five goals put up on
the board, fortunately for him for the Wisconsin Badgers, including
(01:35:32):
two shorthanded goals and a power play goal out of
the four.
Speaker 5 (01:35:37):
Wisconsin took the lead at one to nothing at three.
Speaker 1 (01:35:40):
Point fifty eight of the period, and it was Vivian
Jungles who got our third goal of the year, O'Brien
with an assister forty third and Harvey with her thirty
fifth bat was a shorthanded goal.
Speaker 5 (01:35:55):
At four forty three of.
Speaker 1 (01:35:57):
The period, the Badgers made it two to nothing with
a four on four goal as Kirsten Simms got her
sixteenth goal of the year, O'Brien an assist, her second
of the ninth and her forty fourth of the year,
and Eden got her twenty second assists of the year.
And then at seven forty of the period, the Badgers made.
Speaker 5 (01:36:18):
It three to nothing with a power play goal scored
by Eden.
Speaker 1 (01:36:23):
For Eden, it was her twenty first goal of the
year and assist to Sims her thirty eighth of the
year and to O'Brien, her third of the game and
her forty fifth of the year, and with three assists,
O'Brien now has more than two hundred and fifty points
(01:36:44):
two fifty one. That is the second player in Wisconsin
women's hockey history to have two hundred and fifty points
in her career. Congratulations to her. And then of course
she got another goal. This won a short handed, unassisted
It was their eleventh goal of the year, or pardon me,
(01:37:05):
it was her twenty first goal of the year and
Wisconsin at that point had a four to one lead.
Minnesota had scored a gold that was scored by Emma
Connor that came at nine to thirty seven of the period.
Speaker 5 (01:37:21):
But that's where we stand.
Speaker 1 (01:37:23):
After two periods of play, shots on goal thirty one
for the Wisconsin Badgers, after two periods of play seventeen
for the Minnesota Golden Gophers. Ava's got a total of
thirteen saves and Hannah Clark with a total of twenty seven.
The Badgers are one of four on the power play
(01:37:45):
so far in the game and the Minnesota is oh
of two. Twenty minutes more, and then the Badgers after
this game will take a week off before they'll wind
up their regular season in Bamidji, Minnesota, two weeks from
this weekend. And Wisconsin, of course, wrapped up the regular
(01:38:07):
season championship of the WCCHA with an eight to two
victory in Game one of this series yesterday here at
Lebon Arena and Wisconsin. That's their tenth regular season title.
They also have ten WCCHA playoff championships under Mark Johnson
(01:38:29):
in his twenty two years of coaching.
Speaker 5 (01:38:31):
In this today would be victory number six hundred.
Speaker 1 (01:38:35):
And fifty eight per Mark, and Mark now the winningest
coach on the campus of any sport at the University
of Wisconsin. We're back with the third period after this
time out. This is Wisconsin Badger women's hockey. In the
(01:38:59):
last name years here at Levon Arena, the Badgers have
been very impressive one hundred and thirty five victories, only.
Speaker 5 (01:39:08):
Twelve losses and seven ties.
Speaker 1 (01:39:11):
Overall in this building, which was built in twenty and twelve,
the Badgers have one hundred and eighty.
Speaker 5 (01:39:18):
Six wins, twenty one losses and eleven ties.
Speaker 1 (01:39:22):
And back from the locker room is Greening, goaltending coach
for the Badgers.
Speaker 6 (01:39:29):
Well, Paul, twenty minutes to go here. Hopefully we clean
it up and finish the job today.
Speaker 1 (01:39:36):
Well, that would be nice. The Badgers will be moving
from our right to our left and the Minnesota Golden
Gophers from left to rived picked up by Abby Murphy,
tipped in over the line by the center Ellen Hubert,
and Wisconsin at full strength to Minnesota at full strength.
Speaker 5 (01:39:57):
Badgers come in over the line.
Speaker 1 (01:39:58):
O'Brien is out the puck down on the corner on
the right side, back to the point. On the pass over,
the jungles with a drive that's kicked out raybound goes
to O'Brien, who left it for Harvey. Harvey moves it
right out in front stick say it.
Speaker 5 (01:40:13):
A rebound is.
Speaker 1 (01:40:14):
Cleared around on the far side in Wisconsin losing control
of the puck. Minnesota plays it to the blue line
of the Badgers, but a gop for already in the
zone and that causes the offside.
Speaker 6 (01:40:31):
Harvey made that look easy, taking that pass out of
mid air with her stick.
Speaker 5 (01:40:35):
Yeah. They practice that stuff all the time, don't they. Yah.
Speaker 6 (01:40:39):
Yeah, she works on a lot of stuff after practice. Man,
she's she's committed and we'll.
Speaker 1 (01:40:46):
Lap next week off, they're gonna kind of have maybe
an unusual.
Speaker 5 (01:40:49):
Practice schedule, some rest.
Speaker 1 (01:40:52):
Yeah, give some people an opportunity'll hopefully get better.
Speaker 5 (01:40:56):
Yeah, and we've got a penalty coming up. I think yep,
I think he's going to be a hooking call.
Speaker 6 (01:41:03):
I think they took Gorbatinko down there and he's kind
of shaking her hand.
Speaker 5 (01:41:07):
Yeah, Minnesota's heading to the penalty box.
Speaker 6 (01:41:10):
Yeah, looks like Hemp is going to sit for two.
Speaker 1 (01:41:16):
Had more penalties in this game than we've had in
a while. Forty seven seconds into the period, probably.
Speaker 6 (01:41:24):
Sensing a little frustration out behalf of the golfers pall.
Speaker 5 (01:41:28):
Badgers are one of four on the power play in
this game. They got one.
Speaker 1 (01:41:33):
Even strength goal. Two Shorthanders in a power play coming
over to pick it up with it as Harvey. Harvey
works the wing on the right side Badgers in the
neutral zone and Harvey goes back over the control and
going back in behind it at Harvey will work it out,
slides it on the brake. Wisconsin comes in over the
(01:41:54):
Minnesota line and worked around the boards over the Sim
Hirst and Sim in the corner lightening with a turn
try to bring it out Harvey holds it in. Badgers
look to set it up back of the Sims. Sims
carries it behind the net, head up looking for the past.
Sims with it skates around over the Edwards on the play.
(01:42:16):
Sim's back out on top, over to Harvey. Harvey just
inside the blue. They come on the left side, over
to Edwards, down deep on the zone, back over the
Harvey shot. Wow, and she missed the net on that one,
and she was point blank range between the dots. Yep,
and it goes all the way back down on the
Wisconsin zone and the whistle, no whistle. Harvey goes back
(01:42:40):
of it to set it up. Forty nine seconds remaining
in the period, Minnesota trying to keep the Badgers out
of the zone. Wisconsin comes in over the line. They're
still on the power play with thirty nine seconds reminting.
Badgers work the wing on the near boards. They'll set
it up. O'Brien around over the Simsim with it over
(01:43:01):
to Leyley Edwards. Edwards pulls up on top Harvey with
a drive blocked in front. What close shot there by
Eden and it was turned away. N Badger's with about
two scoring chances on this power play back over to
Sims around on the play, Wisconsin setting it up back
(01:43:21):
over to Edwards who fired it high and wide. She
loves that spot. Yeah, she'll stand right by the dot, yep,
and then let it go at the Minnesota's back at
bull strength and Wisconsin one for five on the power
play in the game, Wisconsin coming through center rise. Here's
Hall with a drive that would want to the mark
(01:43:44):
played on the board. Scandal came over to try and
help out Gorbatanko, but it's going to be controlled by
Morrow of Minnesota. Bat canning get around and trying to
clear it out of the zone. This Dad with it
comes back into the line. Here's Scandal to the net,
went to the back end or hit the side of
the cage, back in behind.
Speaker 5 (01:44:06):
Down to sixteen thirty.
Speaker 1 (01:44:07):
Five, remitting four to one whisks and whistle in front
of the goal. Play is going to be stopped in
the Minnesota zone.
Speaker 5 (01:44:15):
Not sure what we have.
Speaker 6 (01:44:16):
Oh, we got a chin strap that came undone. So
the official looking out for the players and button.
Speaker 1 (01:44:21):
It up and the Minnesota is going to change up
a couple of players here four to one score here
in the third period, Minnesota will have four regular season
games left before the playoffs begin, Badgers only have two.
They have the week off SODA's Ohio State next weekend.
Speaker 6 (01:44:45):
Yeah, good opportunity to get healthy, you know, a little
break in the action.
Speaker 5 (01:44:49):
And we'll have the face off coming up.
Speaker 1 (01:44:52):
I believe the Gophers play Saint Cloud and then they
take on the Minnesota de lout.
Speaker 5 (01:44:58):
Yeah, they got some tough time tests ahead.
Speaker 1 (01:45:00):
And controlling gets going to be played back down in
the corner and that went up over the glass and
out of play. Sunday afternoon at Lebon Arena, watching the
number one team in the nation looking for their twenty
ninth win of the year against one loss and a
two times only lost to the Buckeyes of Ohio State. Yeah,
(01:45:24):
down there early in the year, laid back down in
the corner, back over Tolowski to pick it up, got
Lowski with it, will work it back in behind the
goal around on the far side, and then moving it ahead,
playing it back down in the corner, and we're gonna
have an icing call. And you think of that other
loss to Ohio State and the championship game out.
Speaker 5 (01:45:48):
East last year one to nothing. Yeah, yeah, you bet
the players think about that every now and then you
can you can bet on it.
Speaker 6 (01:45:56):
Yeah, that one sticks in the mine there.
Speaker 5 (01:45:58):
For quite a while.
Speaker 1 (01:46:00):
Sixteen twelve remitting here in the third period of play
and back out on top the Gophers play it back
in behind it at worked around the wing on the
near side. Well, there are three quality hockey programs with
Ohio State, Minnesota in Wisconsin, and quite frankly, probably every
(01:46:22):
one of those three may win the national titles. Yeah,
and anybody's got a chance and coming around over to
pick it up and bringing it up ice.
Speaker 5 (01:46:29):
Of course we all know who we are rooting for.
Speaker 1 (01:46:33):
Play back around on the far side, trying to control
it over to Graham, trying to bring it out. The
Badgers try and do hold it in. They try to
play it to Picard, but it's steered away from her.
Abby Murphy fires it out over the center ice and
they're going to backhand it down to the corner back
in behind Ava McNaughton. McNaughton with it around on the
(01:46:56):
play on the near boards in the zone of Wisconsin.
The buck is loose. Badger's Gorbatanco flipped in on the
left side, rolls back down on the corner. Gorbatanco and
lighting and number seven's match up there, there's a drive
right on as Hall fired it in on Hannah.
Speaker 5 (01:47:16):
Clark, but she made to say.
Speaker 6 (01:47:19):
It was nice to see Grace Bickett get a shift
there on the right defense.
Speaker 5 (01:47:25):
Yes, they sillyh Bickett.
Speaker 1 (01:47:28):
They are dressed for Ava McNaughton and Landy Potter, who
are not flamed. Base off coming up O'Brien in the
face off circle. O'Brien with three points this afternoon on
a couple of assists and a goal, oh boy, and
moving it in Minnesota with a pressure, but a stack
(01:47:50):
pad saved there by McNaughton and Wisconsin turning trying to
get it out, going to be back in toward this
loot cleared away fourteen remitting coming in over the line,
controlling it badgers Harvey, Harvey shadow on why around over
to Whedon, Aiden controlling it back over to Sims behind
(01:48:11):
the net, Sim's in front, back over to Edwards, Edwards,
round over to Harvey. Harvey takes a look between the dots,
shuffles it around over to Edwards quickly to Sims and
they play it on the far side over to O'Brien
back to Harvey with a drive pad saved raybound behind
the net, held in by Eden Aiden, slaps it around
(01:48:32):
the boards trying to give it to Sims and the
play Gophers go down and there's gonna be a penalty
called against Wisconsin Sims.
Speaker 5 (01:48:40):
I think Sims might get a trip here. Yep, she did.
Speaker 6 (01:48:46):
Not real intentional kind of reach into the puck, but
she hooked her stick around the just above the ankle
of one of the Gophers.
Speaker 5 (01:48:54):
And for the Badgers, that is their third penalty of
the game. Pair amount of penalties today.
Speaker 1 (01:49:00):
Minnesota has five, the Badgers have three. So the Gophers
go on the power play for the next couple of
minutes fourteen oh five, remainting in the third period four
to one, Wisconsin back over to kat Lawski around on
the far side of the break over to Wasnavig. There's
a pretty good check there along the boards in front pressure.
Speaker 5 (01:49:21):
Well. Could the Badgers get a third shorthanded goal in
the game. It'd be nice around on. There's a shot.
Speaker 1 (01:49:29):
Right on and covering up, fired right on by Ava Lindsey.
Shorthanders in this game have been scored by Jungles and
by O'Brien thirteen forty five, remitting here in the third period,
(01:49:49):
Payden hamp in the face off circle for Minnesota, coming
up to the left side of Ava mcnontin.
Speaker 6 (01:49:55):
O'Brien wins that one and around.
Speaker 1 (01:49:57):
Over the jungles in the play set up by the
Gophers along the board's near side, back out on top.
This is Moro with it off on the play little
given go their defense Premorano and Moro. There's Primorano with
a drive around over the Morrow's bumped along the boards.
Speaker 5 (01:50:17):
Harvey with it.
Speaker 1 (01:50:18):
Harvey will control the Bucks, slaps it around the boards
on the near side, rolls all the way back down
to the Minnesota's own Badgers try to pick it up,
and the Gophers turn it out. They come on the lead.
Moro with it and over the line trying to pick
it up. Chasing it down is Casey and it's pardon
(01:50:39):
me Hubert and played down in the corner.
Speaker 5 (01:50:41):
Hubert with it.
Speaker 1 (01:50:42):
Ela Hubert around of the far side, trying to control
it back to the point on the near wing, and
that's Premorano. Primorano out and Abby Murphy's out of the
ice and covering up is McNaughton.
Speaker 5 (01:50:57):
Who made the say forty seconds for many in the
power play.
Speaker 6 (01:51:02):
Yeah, nice stick Steve on that wide angle shot there.
They have a face off here to the right, Ava McNaughton.
Speaker 1 (01:51:11):
Let's see Andrews have three goaltenders dressed for the game, Jolie,
Baker and Quinn cons And comes around on the far
side and Minnesota moving it in. There's a drive cleared
away by Binucio from in front of the goal. The
Gophers hold it in. We're down to thirty seconds. You're
minting in the power play. Minnesota with a drive and
(01:51:34):
Ava McNaughton put it away. The Gophers over two on
the power play in this game.
Speaker 6 (01:51:40):
They're getting some shots on this power pal.
Speaker 1 (01:51:44):
And Abby Murphy is out on the power play. Lightening
is out along with Lindsey and Connor based off coming
up to the right side.
Speaker 5 (01:51:54):
Back in the zone of the Badgers.
Speaker 1 (01:51:56):
Draw head up and Primorano, Uh Primorano around on the
far side or round over to Aber Murphy take it
away by Wisconsin and I'm moving it up ice.
Speaker 5 (01:52:08):
Wisconsin comes in over the line.
Speaker 1 (01:52:10):
They'll play it back down around the boards on the
near side, trying to control it Adam. Minnesota comes out
of their own zone. Here's Abby Murphy with it. Abby
carries it in over the line. Badger's back at full strength.
Connor picks it up on the far wall, banks it
around the boards. The Badgers will break it out over
to Sims. Sims comes in over the line, Sims with it,
(01:52:33):
drops it and the Badgers lose control of the puck
to Minnesota lightening on the play ahead.
Speaker 5 (01:52:41):
Over to Lindsay. Lindsey in of the line.
Speaker 1 (01:52:43):
We're down to eleven forty two, remitting in the period
four to one, Wisconsin thirty eight to twenty one in shots.
Borbatanco comes ahead in over the line, played back down
in the corner. Gorbatanco tried to skate it down frankl
for Minnesota. Rink watt in the pass intended for O'Hara,
intercepted by Venusio, goes in behind the Badger Net fired
(01:53:07):
it out on the wing to Scandal, played back in
behind Ava McMurphy again Venusio around the boards. On the play,
they try to move it ahead to Gorbatanko, Gophers at
center Ice O'Hara plays it to the Badger line. Banusio
skates back Venusio in the corner along with this stud
(01:53:29):
and come back toward the Minnesota line with it as
Moro Moro circling at center ice on the play ahead.
The Gophers carry it in over the line, moving it in.
There was a shot when wide by Primorano and back
comes Wisconsin. They back handed in over the Gopher line,
trying to chase it down as Halverson in behind the net.
(01:53:53):
Halverson lost it to Morrow Minnesota. They try to break
it out at center ice. Leyla Edwards Morol comes in
over the line. That's Halverson. Halverson for the drive and
that was blocked there by Primorano.
Speaker 5 (01:54:09):
And she looked like she was banged up. Oder Hr
just a little bit. Edward's with it.
Speaker 1 (01:54:14):
Edwards had sent her eyes comes around on the boards
over the Harvey. Harvey tried to skate it down. Morrow
takes it away. Sidney Morrow of Minnesota, one of their
better defensemen, coming up ice on the break, clears it
through center and the play. Badgers try to work it
back in over the line. Here's O'Brien try to put
(01:54:35):
a move on Morow. Defensively. O'Brien behind the net, hit
the back of the cage, covering up and the save
is made. We'll take a break. This is Wisconsin Badger.
Speaker 5 (01:54:45):
Hockey in the studio.
Speaker 1 (01:54:54):
Of wtso, Mark green Hall and Paul Brown here this
afternoon break this game. Zack Selft is on his way
for vacation for a week, and it's going to be
played back down Minnesota coming out of their own zone,
trying to get something.
Speaker 5 (01:55:10):
Going down four to one in the game.
Speaker 1 (01:55:12):
Badgers looking for another victory here in the sweep of
the Gophers, and it would be their eighth winn in
a row over Minnesota. Around on the far side, coming
back over to pick it up and with it as
Leylee Edwards, Edward's coming off on the wing and the
play over the Harvey Harvey back over to Lailea Edwards,
they give it to Eden. Eden now leads the Badgers
(01:55:35):
with power play goals with a total of seven after
the one she got here today.
Speaker 5 (01:55:40):
Around the far.
Speaker 1 (01:55:41):
Side, over the laylay Edwards down in the corner coming
over to try and pick it up. Laila with it
off on the wing, over the Waznevitch behind the net
to Eden comes around over the card with a drive.
They shut and back over to Harvey. Flipped it around
the boards Badgers. Edwards at the point holds it in
on the play to Waznevitch between the dots.
Speaker 5 (01:56:02):
She went down. The play continues along the boards.
Speaker 1 (01:56:06):
Harvey with it, shot it weekly and on Hannah Clark,
can she put it away to stop the action.
Speaker 6 (01:56:13):
That kind of fluttered. I thought maybe she'd misjudge it.
You know what kind of a knuckleballer. Well, Paul eight
thirty nine, left to go for one lead, see if
we can finish strong here.
Speaker 1 (01:56:27):
Settled down a little bit as Yeah, in terms of
second period, we had right at least it's five on
five here, yeah, exactly around on the far side, back
in behind. However, the Badgers performed pretty well with four
on four shorthanded and power play coming back into the line.
Control to get that's Weppington down in the corner. O'Hara
(01:56:48):
with it. Try to come back to the point to
Casa Bud and there's a drive and it was right
on by Casa Bud and Wisconsin out towards center Ice
Cossa button back to break it up. Minnesota with it.
They play it in the neutral zone, Wisconsin turning. They
(01:57:09):
come back in over the line, coming in off the wing.
They'll set it up and they tip it. Scandal with
it in front. They try to play it nice passing
combination here, but it just didn't quite click in front
of the net.
Speaker 5 (01:57:24):
Seven five are menning here and the play goes back
over back in behind Ava McNaughton.
Speaker 4 (01:57:32):
With a win.
Speaker 5 (01:57:33):
Ava would have forty eight wins in her career.
Speaker 6 (01:57:38):
She's accrewing some pretty nice statistics, isn't she.
Speaker 5 (01:57:40):
Yep? She sure is.
Speaker 1 (01:57:41):
Picked up Gorbatanko at center ice controlled by the Gophers,
and there's a check by Halverson.
Speaker 5 (01:57:49):
They called the penalty, did they? I guess they did.
I didn't think they did, but you're right.
Speaker 6 (01:57:55):
It looks like Halverson's going to go to the box here.
Speaker 5 (01:58:02):
So Wisconsin gets another penalty body checking.
Speaker 1 (01:58:12):
Thirteen minutes or twelve minutes and forty seconds the time
of the penalty. Wisconsin in the game now with four penalties,
Minnesota with five.
Speaker 6 (01:58:23):
That's a lot more than usual. Yeah, it is for
either team.
Speaker 1 (01:58:26):
And the Gophers on the power play around on the
far side for the next couple of minutes. They're down
by three goals to Wisconsin with seven to eleven remaining
here in the third period, coming around on the near
side over to pick it up. Minnesota controlling it. They'll
move it around to the right side out on top
(01:58:47):
is Morol Moral with it off on the play and
they give it off over to Premorano and around on
the far side Minnesota regrouping Hubert with it. Premorano can
rolls it around on the right side. Over tomorrow, little
given go shot from the near red line, yeah, right away, Yeah,
(01:59:09):
and the Gophers set it up six thirty five, reminting
of the period Abby Murphy.
Speaker 5 (01:59:13):
With it over tomorrow and back out on top.
Speaker 1 (01:59:18):
There's a shot there went wide. Wow, and around the
boards whistle and action's got to be stopped. They've kept
Abby Murphy pretty much in check all weekend.
Speaker 5 (01:59:28):
For the most part. You're right, and shots on gold
and the game yesterday. Wow.
Speaker 6 (01:59:32):
And she can be a dominating player, you know, she's
really a skilled athlete, competitor.
Speaker 5 (01:59:38):
Plays hard, fast skater. Yeah, we're you know, keeping her
in check, like you said, based off coming up to
the right side.
Speaker 1 (01:59:49):
Six twenty three, remitting back out on top Gophers one
minute remating in the power play with his Morrow around
on the near side and coming in trying to take
a drive and it was blocked there.
Speaker 5 (02:00:02):
Nice plays tried to pick it up.
Speaker 1 (02:00:05):
And the play comes just outside the blue line of
Wisconsin back over to try and control it, and it.
Speaker 5 (02:00:11):
Was so kind of hurt from that block shot, I think.
Speaker 1 (02:00:14):
Coming back into the line and Edwards is out on
the ice though, yeah, seems to be okay. And here's
Abby Murphy with a drive and that's blocked and the
Badgers chip it out to center ice. Got to change
up a player or two for the Badgers on the
penalty kill with twenty two seconds for manning. Gophers down
(02:00:34):
by three goals, and uh Layla tried to clear the zone.
Abby Murphy with it, shuffles it off over Tomorrow back
on Abby Murphy waiting in the far circle, and Primorano
comes round over to Murphy's shot tipped away.
Speaker 5 (02:00:49):
There nicely and the Badger's back at full strength.
Speaker 1 (02:00:55):
As Elverson checks off the ice, the Badgers get an
extra attacker out.
Speaker 5 (02:01:00):
Coming out onto the ice is Sims.
Speaker 1 (02:01:02):
There's a drive around the boards over to Harvey and
the Badgers back at full strength, Minnesota holding the zone.
Speaker 5 (02:01:10):
They move it in back over.
Speaker 1 (02:01:12):
There's a shot deflected away and the Minnesota over to
set it up. Sims out on the ice coming off
the bench there as Elberson came out of the box,
lightening with it. Minnesota, still with pressure in the Badger zone.
Under five minutes remaining, O'Harra moved it to the net,
but the Harvey tried to tip it away, take it
(02:01:34):
back and a shot.
Speaker 5 (02:01:35):
Oh, another pipe, another.
Speaker 1 (02:01:38):
And one hit the pipe and coming back up Ice
controlling it is eating playing it in over the line,
loose at center ice, Minnesota over to set it up,
coming back in over the line the Gophers Wellington with
a backender steered away twenty four shots on gold now
from Minnesota, Sims with it around the break and was
(02:02:00):
Wisconsin coming through center ice over to McCarthy straddling the
blue line, and it's played.
Speaker 5 (02:02:06):
Off on the wing.
Speaker 1 (02:02:07):
Badgers hold it in Wisconsin to the movement from out
in front. Scannell was skating toward the slot, couldn't handle
the pass. Venusio back over to Kotlowski, passed Thems out.
Speaker 5 (02:02:18):
Of the zone.
Speaker 1 (02:02:20):
Three point fifty four remaining here in the third period,
played back in behind and coming back of it to
set it up is cosabud and in the neutral zone
of Minnesota trying to control it, but the Badgers working
in over the line with McCarthy and also scannal out
on the forward line down to three point thirty one
(02:02:43):
remaining here, Badgers leading it four to one. Play along
the boards and it's Wisconsin's Jungles with it turned and
she flipped it it, but it went up high off
the glass, didn't go out of play. Minnesota regroups they'll
come back out of their own zone through center rice.
Play intended there for puppy and going back down in
(02:03:06):
the corner. Out of the ice for the Badgers is
bicket and play in the neutral zone. Back over to
Morrow moreover to try and pick it up. Played back
in over the Wisconsin line. Gorba tankle with it turns
and comes forty one to twenty five and shots end
right in over the line, over the Gorba tangle down
(02:03:27):
to the corner. Back out on top it comes over
to Jungles. Jungles with it played down deepen the zone
in the corner. Under three minutes remaining, now two thirty
five in the period. Badgers on the way to their
twenty ninth win of the year against one loss and
two ties, and their eighth consecutive victory over the Minnesota
(02:03:49):
Golden Gophers.
Speaker 5 (02:03:50):
Back over to end right end right in Oh why
nice goal h eighth goal of the agent by a
score up five to one.
Speaker 6 (02:04:06):
Did Enright get that one hot because they have been Yeah,
carved off a goal for it the last minute. That
was a great shot by n Right from the left wing.
Speaker 1 (02:04:16):
Wow, that makes her feel better after that five minute Yeah.
Speaker 5 (02:04:21):
No kidding, no kidden. Sixth goal of the year for
n Right. Oh, nice shot by and.
Speaker 1 (02:04:27):
Seventeen forty one the time of the goal. They got
Casey O'Brien listed on the goal. Oh really, we'll have
to see for sure. You see O'Brien from n Right
and was nvitch.
Speaker 5 (02:04:47):
Huh.
Speaker 1 (02:04:48):
If O'Brien gets it, it would be your second consecutive
and her twenty second goal of the year.
Speaker 5 (02:04:55):
That's what the official staff sheet shows.
Speaker 1 (02:04:57):
Right now, and play comes around of the coming up
ice controlling it with one forty eight remening comes in
over the line Wisconsin over to set it up.
Speaker 5 (02:05:10):
Yep, they still got it listed by O'Brien. They do.
Speaker 6 (02:05:13):
She must have been down there and got a stick
on it high.
Speaker 1 (02:05:16):
I don't know whatever was neviage with the drive controlling
it coming around on the far boards over to try
and pick it up, and play continues O'Brien. If she
got that goal, we'll have four points in this game.
Speaker 6 (02:05:30):
Yeah, I don't even know if she was on the
ice side.
Speaker 5 (02:05:31):
That's what I was wondering. I'm confused on that one.
Speaker 6 (02:05:35):
I think that you know, sixteen is n Wright's number,
twenty six of O'Brien's. Maybe they only saw you know,
one digit on the jersey.
Speaker 5 (02:05:43):
And that one went out of play one oh seven
or remening in the period.
Speaker 6 (02:05:56):
Who they announced I thought they said was Nevitge. I
thought it was yeah, and that's who it was. When
I look at the replay, that's what it was down
there with an assist to.
Speaker 5 (02:06:05):
End right then I was right on the call. You're right, yeah,
you had it first. You said, got it?
Speaker 1 (02:06:15):
I sure look like it anyway, who That's not important.
It was the fact that you Wasn'tavige got the goal.
Speaker 5 (02:06:22):
And the puck ended up in the net.
Speaker 7 (02:06:24):
That's what I right.
Speaker 1 (02:06:25):
The eighth goal of the ear for wasn't Avage and
the Badgers have a five to one lead, forty two
to twenty five and shots coming back over to try
and control it around over to Kotlowski on the far side.
Badger's regroup, nice pass, Gorbatanco coming in moving it in.
Speaker 5 (02:06:47):
Back into the goal break away. Your eleventh goal of
the ear legs at six to one.
Speaker 6 (02:06:58):
Wow, want to drive by her hut going to the
net Deacon and beats the goalie five hole man those
a great pass just to get it up to her
too out of the zone. I don't know who who
got the.
Speaker 5 (02:07:12):
Assists off hand, but.
Speaker 6 (02:07:15):
Great passes, nice puck movement and then a just a
great effort by Gorba Tenko to score goal number six
for US Today.
Speaker 1 (02:07:24):
Badgers continue to roll in terms of scoring offense. Yeah,
it's going to be played back down in the corner.
Minnesota over to set it up six to one after
winning eight to two in game one of the series.
So they outscore them with fourteen goals on the weekend
(02:07:45):
to three for Minnesota and play coming up to go.
The golfers are playing without four of their regular players. Yeah,
there's twenty seconds for manting here. The fans appreciating the efforts,
they're giving them. A stand ovation here by some of
the crowd getting up and they appreciate the play against
(02:08:06):
the Golden Gophers of Minnesota. Down to five seconds, reminting
in the period it's gonna be jammed along the wall
and play is gonna be se because the Wisconsin Badgers
complete the suite for the Golden Gophers of Minnesota.
Speaker 5 (02:08:23):
Greeney your final thoughts here.
Speaker 6 (02:08:24):
Well, I'm real pleased with the upper today after coming
back by you know, kind of a one sided game yesterday.
We knew we were gonna have a contest today and
they answered the call real well. And I like to
see the contributions from a number of different players today.
Speaker 11 (02:08:37):
So that's so neat to see our great victory. Greeney
on Wisconsin. You bet, thank you, Thank Paul, and we'll
be back after this time out. This is was Wisconsin
Badger women's hockey. We're back in Levon, Areno where the
(02:09:00):
Wisconsin Badgers complete the sweep pub the Minnesota Golden Gophers
with a six to one victory this afternoon. Dan Cook
is with US associate head coach along with Mark Dan
a very impressive weekend for your club.
Speaker 12 (02:09:16):
Yeah, we were really pleased with yesterday. Obviously, it was
a special day for our seniors, and to top it
off with the league championship was quite remarkable, you know.
Speaker 1 (02:09:28):
And winning that league championship, Dan, you know it better
than me, but that is a heck of an accomplishment
because it's.
Speaker 5 (02:09:35):
A season long thing.
Speaker 1 (02:09:37):
Twenty eight games involved in that and overall, now the
Badgers are twenty nine to one and two. You guys
got to be extremely happy with the way this club
is performing overall.
Speaker 12 (02:09:48):
Yeah, you know, we keep talking about having good habits,
managing the puck, getting pucks in deep, try to eliminate
the turnovers at the blue line. And if we do
take care of the puck and we can create turnover.
I think one of the things that we excel at
is in our transition game. So if we have the
puck on Sims stick entering the zone or Edward stick.
(02:10:09):
You know, even Lacy Eaton, Cassie Hall piccard, wasn't is
They all do great things with the puck as they
enter the zone. So we talk a lot about managing
the puck, playing the right way when we don't have
the puck, and sometimes you know, you're wondering if it's
sinking in.
Speaker 5 (02:10:26):
But definitely this weekend they were buying into everything. And
I'll tell you, Ava McNaughton's having a wonderful year in goal,
isn't she.
Speaker 12 (02:10:35):
You know, you talk about consistency. I think from our
roster top to bombs. She's been our most consistent player
all year.
Speaker 5 (02:10:42):
Wow, that's saying a lot. And looking forward.
Speaker 1 (02:10:46):
Now you got a week off, You've got a couple
of injuries in that kind of thing. What kind of
schedule do you have, Dan, And it's a good chance
for everybody maybe to could take a little bit of
a break and get healthy hopefully.
Speaker 3 (02:10:56):
Huh.
Speaker 5 (02:10:57):
I couldn't hear any of that. They're walking behind me
right now. Oh.
Speaker 1 (02:11:00):
I was just talking about the time off now where
you have a week off and maybe you get a
chance for the people to heal up a little bit
and take a break here in the next couple of weeks.
Speaker 5 (02:11:12):
Good time for that for you.
Speaker 12 (02:11:15):
We're gonna yeah, we're gonna enjoy it, get some players back,
get healthy here and uh uh, look forward to that
playoff push. But obviously we want to take care of
business in a couple of weeks.
Speaker 1 (02:11:25):
Up in the Ninji Dan one final one. As you
look at the overall performance of this team this year,
what well, how would you analyze realistically how this whole
season has gone, What maybe has gone a little bit
beyond your expectations coming in?
Speaker 12 (02:11:42):
Yeah, you know, to get through the kind of the
dog Days of Winter the way that we did. You know,
we're really pleased with it. You know, Saint Cloud gave
us a great strong effort and you know we had
to fight through some adversity in that game. Obviously, Ohio
State is always a good opponent and playing the outdoor
(02:12:03):
game and getting a good test from them. So I
would say, you know, for us to come through as
we did in those dog days and still get points
on maybe games we didn't play well is a good
sign for us. So we know what we can do
when we're playing at our top level. Let's be a
little to focus and just manage those little things when
maybe we're not bringing our a game.
Speaker 1 (02:12:24):
Dan, thank you for your time and congratulations on the
championship in the great season so far.
Speaker 5 (02:12:29):
Appreciate your time. Thank you.
Speaker 1 (02:12:31):

This is Wisconsin Badger Hockey.
Speaker 5 (02:12:46):

seven and one in the league, and Wisconsin put six
up on the board. Here today, let's take a listen
(02:13:13):
to the highlights of this broadcast. Harvey with it, shuffled
it back on the play, it comes to Jungles Van
