Speaker 1 (00:01):
Welcome into the Jay and K Security Solutions basketball postgame show.
I'm your host Dave Gasper joined by Nick Bruswiz. The
Wisconsin Badgers advanced to the round of thirty two with
an eighty five sixty six win over the Montana Grizzlies.
You can join the conversation with us on the hotline
six zero eight three two one thirteen ten.
Speaker 2 (00:22):
Badgers were able to keep some of.
Speaker 1 (00:24):
The momentum rolling from the Big Ten Tournament despite the
short turnaround from Sunday, and they win in dominating fashion
over these Grizzlies. John Blackwell and Stephen Crell were the
big scores, but it was a great all around effort. Nick,
and Wisconsin has made a farther this year than last
year and now we await the winner of VCU and BYU.
Speaker 3 (00:46):
Yeah, Wisconsin just proved today why they're a three seed.
They were handed a positive matchup by all metrics in
terms of the quality of fourteen seed and once Montana's
star players got into foul trouble, you really thought that
they were dancing on a very very thin ice, like
they were in a position where they had little margin
(01:08):
for error, and they as the time went on, in
this game, found themselves in an uphill battle against the
dominant Badgers team. As you've already highlighted, over fifty percent
from the field in general, fifty five percent for the Badgers.
They shot twenty two percent against Michigan in that championship
game on Sunday. You know, it's just a it's a
(01:28):
you know, regression to the mean in a positive direction
for the Badgers. They got back on track and they
beat a grizz squad that was outmatched.
Speaker 1 (01:35):
Yeah, this was a matchup that definitely looked better for
Wisconsin on paper, certainly better than the James Madison matchup
last year. On paper, that one looked like a disaster,
and this one looked much more favorable in Wisconsin taking advantage.
John Tanjay didn't have the biggest game, only took five
shot attempts, but nine free throws ends up with fifteen points.
(01:59):
He's a big part of this team. He's a big
part of the scouting report against Wisconsin too, because everyone's
gonna be looking to try and shut down John Tonjay
with the numbers that he's put up, the fact that
he is you know, second team All American, and just
what he's on unanimous All First Team Big Ten. Just
really fantastic season from Tonjay. Fifteen points here today. He
(02:21):
didn't dominate, but John Blackwell put up a ton of shots.
Stephen Kroll had a really good game there in the paint.
Montana didn't have the size really to stop Stephen Krawll
and Nolan Winter. Those guys were able to have their
way down there in the paint. And that's really kind
of what led to the big success for Wisconsin in
this game, because they didn't have the greatest three point
(02:42):
shooting performance, just seven of twenty three from three, but
thirty eight points in the paint. It was a big
thing for Wisconsin in this game.
Speaker 2 (02:51):
Yep.
Speaker 3 (02:51):
And you come into this game and you see that,
you know, the big sawyer for Montana's six foot eight
and then he got two seven footers for Wisconsin and
they didn't even know necessarily have to back them down
on a great amount of occasions. The threes were flying
and they were landing at a high enough clip. Not
great down the stretch, but you have to give credit
to the Badgers for just adapting to what needed to
(03:12):
be done today. And John knows that Tanjay knows that
he's the focal point of the defensive game plan and
found ways to contribute in other ways.
Speaker 4 (03:21):
And his perfect nine for nine at the free throw line.
Speaker 3 (03:25):
It's just a calming factor after he missed late in
that Michigan State game. And there's been some crunch moments
where he would have liked to have performed better, including
obviously last game against Michigan. So the Badger has won
the game that they needed to win. I think that,
you know, ninety percent of the country felt pretty comfortable
in this. Charles Barkley picked Montana to win. So you know,
Chuck's wrong again. Chuck's a always wrong. He's wrong a lot.
(03:47):
He's very high on his Auburn team that's right now
in a absolute rock fight with Alabama State.
Speaker 2 (03:53):
But yeah, Alabama State very tough team as we all know.
Speaker 3 (03:58):
Yeah, that was a beautiful finish to their round of
sixty eight their first four contest, right.
Speaker 4 (04:03):
But yeah, credit to Greg Garden.
Speaker 3 (04:06):
This team, they hear the criticism, they know the criticism.
It's all about getting to next weekend at bare minimum.
So we'll see what they do now against BYU or
VCU and you can pick your poison there ones elite Defensively,
the other ones elite offensively and you see that, you know,
coming out of the game. Brian buch was asked about
it and he said, yeah, I would pick VCU if
(04:27):
I could, just nervous about BYU's offensive output. But the
Badgers put eighty five on the board today, wasn't their
best three point shooting game. You know, there's a lot
that they can still accomplish. So either way, I feel
comfortable the Badger is gonna be playing pretty well come Saturday.
Speaker 1 (04:41):
Yeah, and there's a large contingent of BYU fans out
there in Denver, much easier for them to make the
trip from Utah to Colorado than it is for Virginia
Commonwealth fans to make the trip out there to Colorado.
And yeah, as we were kind of talking about too,
John on tan Jay didn't have his biggest game shot wise,
(05:03):
find other ways to contribute, another guy finding ways to contribute.
Xavier Amos came out of seemingly nowhere to have a
pretty big game eleven points, five of nine shooting, four
rebounds in thirteen minutes of action. Xavier Amos really stepping
up in this game, and that was I think kind
of the big surprise, and it shows the depth that
the Wisconsin has and that's why this team can make
(05:25):
a run. That's why they have the ability to when
you have a guy like Xavier Amos who doesn't get
a ton of minutes but is able to provide a
spark like he did today, that really helped kind of
put Wisconsin over the top there. Carter Gilmour as well,
eight points, including a clutch three when Montana was making
a bit of a run, making a close, maybe starting
(05:46):
to sweat a little bit, getting at getting a little
hot in here, getting a little warm, and then Carter
Gilmore drains the three. It's like, okay, guys, let's let's
all chill out, let's all come down.
Speaker 2 (05:55):
We got this. It's it's not going anywhere.
Speaker 3 (05:58):
Yeah, they got the bench production that they needed. In
a game like this, the high stakes moments, you're gonna
need to rely on those guys that can come off
the bench and provide sparks. And he saw from the
three major contributors off the bench, which were Amos, Gilmour,
and of course Kamari McGee, right, they contributed in massive ways.
Speaker 4 (06:15):
McGee tied for the team lead with six rebounds. I mean,
he's the.
Speaker 3 (06:18):
Smallest guy on the court whenever he's out there, and
he's tide for the team lead in rebounds.
Speaker 4 (06:22):
That's a great performance.
Speaker 3 (06:23):
He plays twenty five minutes to spell guys like Klesmitt
and Blackwell win needed. And then you consider what you've
said already about Amos. This is the game, right So
Matt Lapey has been saying all year long that they
believe in this guy, that they think Amos is going
to be a difference maker for this group. And Matt had,
you know, kind of alluded to the fact that he
was waiting for a performance like this kind of to
step up and make his stamp on the season, and.
Speaker 4 (06:45):
It was today. And the dude's not afraid to take
a shot.
Speaker 3 (06:49):
Sometimes the shots are not as positive as Greg Gard
would prefer them to be, not as open, not as
much in rhythm, but the reality is you need someone
out there in a moment like this where things kind
of start getting tight, to not be afraid to just
kind of put one up with confidence.
Speaker 4 (07:06):
And Xavier made them today and he did a great job.
Speaker 1 (07:09):
If there's ever a time to have a moment, it
is the NCAA Tournament. That is where you can have
your one shining moment, hopefully more for for Xavier Amos.
But the Badgers, they get their win and they are
moving on. Survive in advance eighty five sixty six. They
survived pretty easily here over Montana, but more games still
to come.
Speaker 2 (07:28):
They've earned another forty.
Speaker 1 (07:29):
Minutes, as a butcher would say, and we've got us
more time to talk about this game, break it down
and what may be coming next. Badgers win eighty five
sixty six. We got some fun facts with Dave coming
up on the other side. Also later on in the show,
Nick osin I'm twenty four to seven sports will join
us once again.
Speaker 2 (07:48):
That's all coming up. Don't go anywhere.
Speaker 1 (07:50):
This is the Jay and K Security Solutions Basketball Postgame Show.
Speaker 5 (07:56):
Seven five Wisconsin Elite Lord of the flush court throwing
a Kai, Johnson whips it inside, Peractet catches history, poking
up by Gilmore, take it away by Winter up the
floor comes blackwell up the middle, the bouncers magging each other.
Rimmer first light up is good, oh and athletic play
from the gee and it's nine to five Wisconsin.
Speaker 1 (08:14):
Welcome back to the J and K Security Solutions Basketball
Postgame Show. Jay and K security solutions from home theaters

The Badgers are eighty five sixty six winners over fourteenth
seeded Montana and they are moving on to the round
(08:37):
of thirty two. While they were face either the BYU
Cougars or the VCU.
Speaker 2 (08:44):
I don't even know what their nickname is. They're the Rams, right.
Speaker 4 (08:47):
Yeah, yeah, is right. They are a Ram creature if
not the Rams.
Speaker 3 (08:51):
So, yeah, it's gonna be an opportunity for Wisconsin to
make it to the second weekend for the first time
in a long time. Right, And that's the biggest question
about Greg Guard's the head coach right now, is if
he can lead his team to the promised land, whether
that's the long term one, the national championship, everyone's super dream,
their fever dream.
Speaker 4 (09:11):
Or just to where their seed would suggest. Right.
Speaker 3 (09:13):
So, in the years past, they've been a five, they've lost,
they've been a three, they've lost, right, and they haven't
made it to that second weekend.
Speaker 4 (09:19):
Well, they're one of the top nine.
Speaker 3 (09:21):
Teams in terms of seeding in the tournament, so they're
going to have to answer that by making it into
next weekend's action and it's either going to be BYU
or VCU on Saturday, two teams that are really hot
right now.
Speaker 1 (09:35):
Yeah, and that's going to be an incredible game to
watch as that's going to be coming up there in Denver.
As we got kind of some other games going on
here in the NCAA tournament. Auburn is up by ten
and halftime over Alabama State, not quite as big of
a lad as we were expecting to see there, but
(09:56):
Houston also another number one seed, got their went over
SIU Edwardsville seventy eight to forty, so about as expected
for one versus A sixteen. Right now, McNeese State has
jumped all over Clemson twenty five to eleven with four
minutes to go in the first half. So those are
the kind of the games that are ongoing there. Perdue
(10:18):
beat High Point, Creighton took down Louisville, and those are
the games that have been completed or started so far.
Speaker 2 (10:24):
So we're kind of now getting.
Speaker 1 (10:26):
Into this second windows, second time here time slot.
Speaker 2 (10:30):
So soa tournament is ongoing.
Speaker 1 (10:33):
But you kind of mentioned it, Nick, you know, with
this team getting to the to the second weekend. How
far can they go? How far do you think the
Badgers can go? When you filled out your bracket, how
far do you have the Badgers getting?
Speaker 3 (10:46):
Well, I had him in the Elite eight, right, and
take that for what it's worth. Considering how I've started
so far. I also have Clemson in the final four.
So let's look at what's happening right now and maybe
take what I have to say with a grain of salt.
But the reality is, I think Wisconsin's got a real
good shot against whoever they get on Saturday, and if
(11:07):
Chalk holds and they face Alabama in the Sweet sixteen.
Alabama doesn't play any defense, and I think the Badgers
have the offensive firepower if thrown into a contest like that,
like hey, we're just gonna go up and down the court,
We're both gonna score. I think Wisconsin's can hang and
maybe provide the defense that Alabama doesn't necessarily face a
(11:28):
lot in the SEC. So I feel pretty good about Wisconsin.
Maybe a rematch against Duke or another matchup with Duke
in the Elite eight, but the Badgers certainly have a
ceiling of being one of the final teams in their region,
and I think that that's I mean, obviously as the
three seed, you know, they can be what the seed
(11:49):
suggests they are.
Speaker 1 (11:50):
Yeah, they absolutely have that ability. I have them get
into that second weekend as well. And you know, Wisconsin Alabama,
I mean, I think that's gonna be a very intriguing
matchup should they both get there. I'm almost kind of
leaning towards, uh, you know, Bama. In my one bracket
I went, I went that direction, so I had Wisconsin,
(12:12):
you know, just kind of in the sweet sixteen.
Speaker 2 (12:14):
But I did, I did two. I did.
Speaker 1 (12:16):
I did one just kind of overthinking, over analyzing things.
Then one with the heart. Yeah, heart, I've got I've
got Wisconsin winning the Natty in that one.
Speaker 4 (12:26):
Yeah, that's what the heart all the way, I didn't.
Speaker 3 (12:28):
I didn't find myself doing any of them that much
with the heart, but I I mean, obviously I would
love that. I think Wisconsin's a but you know, national
title caliber team at their best.
Speaker 4 (12:40):
Is just providing that on a given game is tough.
Speaker 2 (12:43):
Yeah, it really is.
Speaker 1 (12:44):
It's it's so tough to to kind of think a
week or so out, like, oh, are they going to
have a good shooting performance against Alabama because you're gonna
need to, you know, if you're gonna be getting into
a shootout with with Alabama, uh in the sweet sixteen.
And we don't want to look too far past this
next game because you know, Wisconsin still does have to
beat either b YU or VCU, whichever one makes it.
(13:07):
But it's going to be a very fun tournament to watch,
and hopefully we get to watch them on that next
weekend because next weekend it's gonna be a lot of fun.
If they get there, it would be a lot of
fun to be there. Uh, And that means, uh, you know,
we got to have some fun as well as it's
time for fun facts with Dave.
Speaker 2 (13:27):
Hey, have you ever heard me? Here's the term fun fact.
Speaker 1 (13:31):
I got a couple of fun facts here because I
have a fun fight.
Speaker 2 (13:35):
You're a fun fact, I do.
Speaker 1 (13:37):
First time in history this has happened that eight games,
five turnovers, and he's recorded thirty five assists.
Speaker 2 (13:44):
Spent a long time since we've seen a game like this.
Speaker 6 (13:47):
The fun out here, this game is fun.
Speaker 2 (13:49):
Okay, I don't know if that fact is fun?
Speaker 7 (13:51):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (13:52):
Are you fired up? Fired up for fun facts with Dave?
Speaker 1 (13:57):
Al Right, it was a fun win for Wisconsin over
the Big Sky champion Montana Grizzlies Big Montana a mid major,
and Wisconsin dating back to two thousand and three now
twelve and one in tournament openers against mid major opponents.
Speaker 2 (14:18):
That loan loss ofle was to Weaver State all the
way back then, so it's.
Speaker 1 (14:24):
Been pretty successful against the mid majors, always important. And
Wisconsin now four and oh all time against fourteen seeds
in the NCAA tournament, so you get them that three
seed odds are they're getting to that second round.
Speaker 3 (14:38):
Night's good work by the Badgers continuing their dominance as
a three seed. I didn't know that fact, so that's
a fun one in terms of winning, at least in
the first round. I believe they were a three seed
when they lost to Iowa State a couple of years ago,
so that's.
Speaker 1 (14:52):
Not But that was the second round, correct as a
second round against an eleven seeds, soeah big difference. And
what's also fun is scoring a lot of points. As
we know, scoring is fun. The Badger's eighty five points
in this game is tied for their third most points
in an NCAA tournament game in program history, so it's
(15:16):
a pretty big scoring output for them, which we absolutely
love to see.
Speaker 2 (15:20):
And you know, when you're able to put up a.
Speaker 1 (15:23):
Bunch of points, it generally leads to some postseason success.
And for Wisconsin, the only times that they've scored more
in an NCAA tournament game the most was putting up
ninety six against Missouri in the nineteen ninety four tournament
and the other time when they scored eighty six points
to begin their twenty fifteen NCAA tournament runs.
Speaker 4 (15:46):
How about that postal Carolina And that was a whoop
in then, and they did a great job today.
Speaker 3 (15:53):
Yeah, I think if the Badgers score eighty five, they
may lose if they played BYU, and they may win
if they play VCU, So we'll see.
Speaker 1 (16:02):
And the other times they've scored eighty five points in
tournament game against Oregon in twenty fourteen, I wonder how
that twenty fourteen team did. And against Arizona in twenty fifteen.
A lot of kids under what that twenty fifteen team.
Speaker 2 (16:17):
Ended up doing.
Speaker 1 (16:19):
So, yeah, that's a big scoring output for them. And
finally here Max Klusmt of the Wisconsin Badgers transferred in
from Wafford and when he was at Wafford. He was
roommates with Montana's senior guard Austin Patterson during their time there.
(16:40):
So Patterson, who had himself a decent scoring Oh he
had two points, he had a bucket. He had a
bucket there in nineteen minutes. But they were roommates. That's wild,
and they were roommates.
Speaker 4 (16:55):
Well done, Max, way to out perform your former roommate,
get the big one.
Speaker 2 (16:59):
Well, Patterson had more points in Klusman.
Speaker 4 (17:00):
Actually, well he won, So who's the real that's.
Speaker 2 (17:03):
True, that's true. Who's the real winner?
Speaker 1 (17:05):
But uh yeah, klus Mit zero points on two shot
attempts before assists, two rebounds and Klusmt, I mean, just
Klusmt's presence on the court is so important for Wisconsin
and we've talked about this all season. We've talked about
it with Nick Osen all season about the importance of
Klesmet and just his role on the team, even if
(17:26):
it's not a big score, and that's just the big
thing for Wisconsin having him out there.
Speaker 2 (17:31):
On the court.
Speaker 1 (17:32):
As we go to the hotline now six eight three
two one thirteen ten, I believe it's Ed in Madison
on the hot line, Ed, what are your thoughts on
this Badger's win here today.
Speaker 6 (17:43):
Balance bad balance.
Speaker 7 (17:46):
You have a bench that has brings balance. They make
free throws, you know all the last couple of rounds
of but going to the marsh Madness, Wisconsin really suffered
the free throw line. It had injuries, they didn't have
ance in their depth in their bench. This is a
totally different team. You can't even compare these to the
last go around with Great Guard. So everybody's got to
(18:08):
take a step back and don't compare this team. This
is not your like I said on TV, this is
not your granddads or your dad's former Badger team. This
is the new Wisconsin Badgers. Absolutely, we can't compare.
Speaker 2 (18:21):
Them, Absolutely exactly can I compare them? Much different team.
Speaker 1 (18:28):
The team's change so much appreciated ed as always, and yeah,
the team's changed so much from year to year.
Speaker 2 (18:35):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (18:36):
And Great Guard has done a fantastic job of adapting
to the transfer portal, to the new age of college
basketball and building a team and building kind of the
success around the personnel that he has. And they have
such a deep roster, a talented roster.
Speaker 8 (18:51):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (18:51):
And it it's so different than what we've seen in
previous years. But it's successful, it's winning, and that kind
of is the same as what we've seen from previous years.
The results, winning is the important part. How you get there,
There's a lot of different ways to get there, Nick,
but the Badgers have found a recipe that works for.
Speaker 4 (19:11):
Them, no doubt about it.
Speaker 3 (19:13):
I mean, they're scoring a lot more than they have
in forever. Right, That's what we talk about when we're
saying this is not your dad or Grandpa's Badgers team,
but I mean John Todjay's a perfect example. AJ Store
last year's a perfect example of where we're at. I mean,
you're grabbing guys who haven't been a part of your
program and they're becoming your leading scorer, becoming your most
significant piece in some ways. And it's a pretty fun
(19:34):
way to watch the Badgers play, especially when they score
as much as they did today.
Speaker 1 (19:38):
And a guy who is a part of our program
is Nick Osen of twenty four to seven Sports, and
he's going to be joining us on the other side
as he is there live in Denver watching Badgers get
this win eighty five sixty six over Montana.
Speaker 2 (19:53):
He's going to join us on the other side. You're
not gonna want to miss it.
Speaker 1 (19:56):
This is the Jane K Security Solutions basketball postgame Show.
Speaker 5 (20:04):
Hey Jon Sawyer top of the circle. Sawyer hands off
the bridge barely in the lane, goes up blocked by
Amos into the hands of match Klubsman another block for X.
He has two of them.
Speaker 2 (20:15):
You're eight energy, no question.
Speaker 1 (20:19):
Welcome back to the Jan and K Security Solutions Basketball
postgame Show. From home security to Automation, Jay and K
Security Solutions has you covered? Go to jksecurity dot com
for more info. Dave Gasper here along with Nick Bruswiz
and we are joined now by Nick Osen live from Denver, Colorado.
He is there covering the Badger's eighty five sixty six
(20:40):
win over Montana. And Nick, this game very important for
Wisconsin is to get started on the right foot. And
with everything you saw, did they meet your expectations for
what you needed to see from them in this game?
Speaker 6 (20:58):
Guys, I think for the most part, really really did.
And specifically after that kind of Gilmour run, which I'm
sure we will get into and kind of that sequence.
But outside of maybe like allowing kind of a little
bit too much driving and pressure to the rim, I
think early throughout some of the first half. I thought
it was a nearly perfect game. And for the fact
that John Tanjay, I guess he ended up with fifteen,
(21:20):
but he obviously didn't need to kind of score as
much as he usually does. I felt that it was
a very balanced effort and I think the spread was
sixteen seventeen. You know, as long as you cover that,
things look pretty comfortable. I'm very, very encouraged about what
I saw today from wiscons guy.
Speaker 3 (21:35):
When you look at the bench production, Xavier Amos has
himself a day to day It felt like maybe his
best performance of the year. And you match out with
Carter Gilmore, who obviously had a huge input, and Kamari
McGee with big minutes and great production even as a
rebound er six rebounds tied for the lead. Like they're
gonna have to be as deep as they were today
to have a shot against whoever's next.
Speaker 6 (21:58):
Nick, I think depth is going to be so huge,
like you mentioned, and I find it really interesting. I actually,
you know, got out of the locker room, talked to
some of the guys, and a great quote from Steve Crowell.
He actually said that he feels like the depth might
be the best strength for this team, so I think
that they will have to show those aspects, and specifically
at that four spot. Neck is something I was really
(22:19):
really keyed in on. I mean, we've talked about Nolan
Winter a lot. Gilmore is kind of known for the
spark that he brings, but like you said, off the
top necking Xavier Amos and I enjoyed speaking with him yesterday.
He was so visibly excited, smiling about this opportunity and
obviously has one of his best, if not maybe his best,
most complete game and we're talking about that even without
(22:40):
a time from maybe McGee at times or Jack to Nicky.
So I think depth will be huge. I think he'll
need a probably a little bit better scoring game from
tian Ja no matter who they face, but like you said,
a huge strength, and I do think it's translatable going forward.
Speaker 1 (22:55):
Nick you mentioned it there with Carter Gilmore kind of
hitting a big point there in that second half a
little bit early on where Montana gets it to within four.
It's fifty one forty seven, and it's like, okay, we're
starting to starting to sweat a little bit. Then Gilmore
hits a three, then he hits another shot after that,
and then Winter follows immediately after with the three, and
next thing, you know, from a it's a four point
(23:16):
game to now twelve point lead for Wisconsin. That really
seemed like the moment in this game where Montana's making
their run. They had a chance to really kind of
steal momentum steel energy, and Wisconsin just immediately took it
right back and said no, no, no, you're not getting
this game.
Speaker 6 (23:34):
David, I couldn't agree more. Quite honestly, that is something
that I wrote about, actually felt it. You know, I
looked at a couple other media members after they cut
it to four, and we were sitting I guess technically
where a lot of the Montana fans and friends, parents,
families would be, and it was getting loud, man like,
this is a good atmosphere, and I felt like Montana
was really starting to surge behind the Grizzlies. And then
(23:57):
Gilmore he hits a three, and you know, I talked
to him a little post game, and I guess his
friends back home love his celebration, so he made sure
to do that makes the great defense to play on
the other end. And then I believe add In alay up.
The lead quickly ballooned and it was really all Badgers
from there, so I think it was huge. He timed
things well, but like we've talked about, it's not necessarily
(24:18):
a rarity for him. I think it was just on
a larger stage today. But overall, I loved what I
saw from Gilly and yeah, Dave, I think that stretch
kind of did change the game for good.
Speaker 2 (24:29):
Nick.
Speaker 3 (24:29):
We're up against it here time wise, so I want
to get this in BYU VCU. They're in action right
now that one's neck in next seventeen fourteen.
Speaker 4 (24:37):
VCU is up early in the first half here.
Speaker 3 (24:39):
But if you had to see how the Badgers kind
of showed up today, is there one direction or the
other that you would lean as a potential team that
you would prefer to see.
Speaker 6 (24:50):
That's a great question. I think based on what I
saw for the majority of things today, I've kind of
said BYU because as long as the Sponson tightens up
some of that. Like, I still think that they can
score with anybody, and the fact that BYU scores a
lot of be a high scoring game. But I like
Downton's defensive rebounding a little bit better, at least to you.
I haven't been able to see a ton yet, but
(25:12):
like they're tough. There's a reason that spread was so small, Nick,
you and I have talked about it really since the
selection show, and it's great to be speaking with Dave
again too being gone. But you know, this could truly
truly go either way. I'm going to try to cut
some of the second half right now. I'd lean the
Cougars just because I like our Wisconsin six, seven, eight
guys could score again.
Speaker 1 (25:33):
Yeah, it's good to be back in town. Sunny Arizona
is totally overrated, Nick. As always, we appreciate you hopping on.
You are not overrated at all. Fantastic work and we
look forward to talking to you again on Saturday as
Badgers get ready for the round to thirty two matchup.
Speaker 6 (25:51):
I can't wait, guys, Thank you so much for having
me take.
Speaker 1 (25:54):

round of the NCAA Tournament, winning by nineteen points. That's
(27:00):
kind of make for a very happy Greg Guard as
he met up with Matt Lepey and Brian Butch after
the game.
Speaker 5 (27:06):
Joining us here court side is the Badger's advance with
balanced scoring a lot of guys in double figures. This
game is a kind of a sigh relief in some
ways to get through the first few minutes, like it's
just basketball. We see your guys smiling a lot.
Speaker 2 (27:21):
Yeah, they having fun out.
Speaker 9 (27:21):
Here, Yeah they are, you know, And I think this
was a grinder. I don't know if we thought I
guess I if I really stepped back and thought about it, it
probably was going to be a grinder just with how
they play. But I thought we established the paint early
and went inside a lot, and we kept going inside
and that was that was the advantage we had, and
we did a good job of playing to that.
Speaker 8 (27:42):
When you look at obviously it's a four point game,
it gets tied, than Carter Gilmore bangs at three to
push the seven.
Speaker 2 (27:47):
Then you guys just ran away with it.
Speaker 8 (27:49):
But you again, it's just another guy that you don't
expect that just makes it play when the numbers call.
Speaker 9 (27:54):
Yeah, I think, you know, we, like I said, I
haven't seen a stat sheet yet, but if you say
it's balanced, I'll I'll I believe you. Final, Okay, Yeah,
I mean we just you know, we didn't have anything.
You know, Blackwell was had big numbers early. But yeah,
it was just you know, I thought we did a
pretty good job defensively.
Speaker 2 (28:11):
Uh.
Speaker 4 (28:12):
We we stayed hot.
Speaker 9 (28:13):
On on the shooters when we needed to, a couple
of mistakes on out of bounce plays. But by and large,
you know, we just did what we need to do,
controlled the glass and and getting you know, getting to
the bonus early where we could take advantage of them
trying to be physical with us. So we just flip
that into shooting free throws was important.
Speaker 5 (28:31):
You have more productivity from exavier aimus here again. So yeah,
we saw that last week. We're sitting in a little bit.
We saw it more than a little bit today. He's
just gradual improvement there.
Speaker 9 (28:40):
Yeah, I thought, you know, defensively blocked some shots. I
mean he you know, made up for some from mistakes
of others at times, and uh yeah, it was good
for him to get in here and you know, his
first ever NC tournament games. So uh, you know, we
we take contributions from wherever we can get them.
Speaker 5 (28:56):
Grasp enjoy it.
Speaker 8 (28:57):
We will turned another forty.
Speaker 5 (29:00):
Four Badgers, said coach Greg Guard, joining us court shot
is Wisconsin defeats Montana here this afternoon, eighty five to
sixty six.
Speaker 1 (29:08):
All right, there was Badgers head coach Greg Guard after
this win. And as as I said, another forty nick
another forty coming up on Saturday against either BYU or VCU.
Speaker 3 (29:22):
Yeah, we'll take it forty minutes to prove that you
deserve to be in the next weekend. The Badgers are hungry.
They know what has happened in the years past, so
I'm looking forward to it.
Speaker 4 (29:30):
I think they'll show up once again like they did today.
Speaker 1 (29:33):
And we'll find out what time they end up playing
later on here. But the Badgers, I would assume they
would have the early session on Saturday. But that's next.
More basketball coming up all over the place. NCAA Tournament
first rounds continuing the rest of today and tomorrow as well.
It's the greatest stretch of like four days in sports.
(29:56):
And we'll be back again with you on Saturday as
Badgers take on either BYU or VCU in the round
of thirty two.
Speaker 8 (30:05):
Four.
Speaker 1 (30:05):

Speaker 2 (30:08):

Speaker 5 (30:13):
Cameron Hunter will dribble out the clock of the Wisconsin
Badgers will advance to the round of thirty two. Man
Tana threatened to make it interesting. God within four in
the second hand, Carter Gildoor bang to three and that
got the Badgers restarted in route to a nineteen point
win here in the opening round.
