Speaker 1 (00:05):
Welcome out to the Jay and Casecurity Solutions basketball postgame show.
I'm your host Dave Gasper joined by the aforementioned Nick
bruce Witz. The Wisconsin Badgers surprisingly fall to the Penn
State Nitney Lions eighty six seventy five on Senior Day.
You can join the conversation with us on the hotline
six eight three two one thirteen ten. The Badgers came
(00:28):
into this game with a chance for a double buy
and the Big Ten Tournament. All they needed to do
was win against a team that wasn't even making the
Big Ten Tourney. Wisconsin started hot from the field, making
six of their first seven threes, but Penn State was
able to keep pace and they kept their hot shooting
going when Wisconsin went cold and Nick, the Badgers are
stumbling here into the Big Ten Tournament where they'll now
(00:51):
have to play most likely on Thursday instead of Friday.
And it's today. That started with with a little bit
of hope and it's just kind of a crushing into it.
Speaker 2 (01:01):
Yeah, they needed Illinois to get a win last night,
and they did. They beat Perdue and they gave the
Badgers their own destiny. They controlled their own destiny. They
win today, they were at worst the four seed, at
best the three seed going into the Big Ten tournament.
And the reality is now that they don't control their
own destiny. And I think that if all things hold,
(01:23):
if UCLA wins tonight and Maryland takes care of business
today against Northwestern, I'm almost certain of it. And we'll
have to double down with Nick Osen because he's probably
got a greater understanding. I think the Badgers would be
the sixth seed if there's a three win tie with
Perdue and Ucla.
Speaker 1 (01:38):
Yeah, the seeding, yeah, now definitely up for grabs. Now.
It is also some part of remember on the optimistic
positive side of things, because we like to be positive. Yeah,
there is still a chance for Wisconsin to get a
double buy. The only scenario where that happens is we
need the exact opposite their neck. We need usc to
beat Ucla and we need Maryland to be Northwestern. That
(02:01):
would then give Wisconsin the four seed based on its
headhead win over perduced.
Speaker 2 (02:07):
Convoluted, and challenging. It is to explain, and this is
because of what Wisconsin did today. They didn't take care
of business at home against a team that had already
been eliminated from the Big Ten tournament, that was playing
in their final game of the year, and Wisconsin came
out firing on all cylinders, something that we had all
been hoping for, a positive regression movement back towards the
(02:30):
mean for a team that's averaging more than ten to
three pointers per game this season, having come into today's
contest twenty seven for their last one to twelve from deep,
and they start six of seven from three now and
their lights out shooting is back, and they finished the
first half one for ten from deep. The rest of
the way and they only make just a couple more
(02:52):
threes in the game. It's just it was a brutal,
brutal slide for a team that is playing without some
key pieces in this game.
Speaker 1 (03:00):
Yeah, they start started six of seven from three and
then went four for twenty four the rest of the way.
It was an unbelievably brutal stretch that we've seen a
lot of over these last couple of games. The shooting
has gone cold from three, which is problematic because that's
been their main scoring threat all season. That that's how
they've been able to thrive and succeed all years because
(03:22):
they've been able to shoot a lot of threes, and
they've been able to make a lot of them. And
now with the shooting gone cold as you had in
the tournament time, that is a little bit concerning. I'm curious.
You know your level of concern is six of eight,
three to one, thirteen ten if you'd like to hop
on your level of concern with this team with this
loss heading into tournament time, big ten tournaments, NCAA tournament
(03:43):
coming up. And yet Nick, as you mentioned the players
that are missing no Max kleusmant once again in this game,
which we've noticed, which which we've talked about being a
problem for this Badgers team. It's got them a little
bit out of sorts. But then also we saw in
this game Nolan Win ended up leaving with an injury,
and that also caused some problems. They tried putting him
(04:05):
back in. He didn't look that great, Nolan Winter just
thirteen minutes of game action seven points, but in those
thirteen minutes he had six rebounds, He was nearly the
team's leading rebounder, and he didn't even play really in
the second half. Losing him, not having him in those
moments late in the game was really tough because when
they needed those rebounds, they didn't have anyone there to
(04:27):
get them. And Conan Niederhauser and Baldwin and Hicks, all
those guys we're gobbling up the rebounds for Penn State
and Wisconsin wasn't able to get second attempts, get answers.
Speaker 2 (04:41):
Yeah, this is a game that we now have to
wonder what the depth for Wisconsin is. It was once
one of their greatest strengths, if not their greatest strength
this season, is that you could rely on the bench
for great production. And today you see Janicki play a
ton of minutes, twenty three minutes, but he doesn't score, right,
and you see twenty six minutes from car Gilmour he
scores four points.
Speaker 3 (05:02):
Right.
Speaker 2 (05:02):
So now we have seen kind of the totem poll.
Get a couple of chunks cut out from it, and
you see Kamari McGee. Now you're starting point guard playing
twenty six minutes. But his production has dipped greatly. He
came out red hot in this one. I think he
scored eight in the first half, and after that it
was just a tough stretch for him. Ten in the
first half. It's just not going to be an easy
(05:26):
path forward for Wisconsin and probably a short path forward
for Wisconsin if they can't get Max Klesmant back, And
now you'll worry about what Winter's going to be dealing with.
And that extra day arrest would have been huge for
Klesmant if they can luck their way into a Friday
game as the four seed with a UCLA loss tonight
in a Maryland win. At this moment, they're gonna definitely
(05:47):
enjoy that extra day arrest trying to figure out what's
next for Winter and Klesmant.
Speaker 1 (05:51):
Yeah, and I will say Maryland is currently up three
over Northwestern with four minutes to go in the first half,
so there's there's something to keep an eye on as
that game can hinues on Peacock over here as I'm
watching it on the TV in the studio. But yeah,
that extra day of rest is going to be so
crucial if Wisconsin's going to be able to get it.
We don't know what's up with Nolan Winter. Maybe we'll
(06:14):
get an update from Nick Osen later on in the
show if Greg Guard has won. Once I talked to
the doctors, but when he was talking with Matt Leape
and Brian Butch there wasn't too much of an update
on Nolan Winter and what his injury is. I think
the expectation is Max klesmt should be back for the
Big Ten tournament, which is going to be huge. It's
going to be great to have him back and getting
that rotation with the backcourt where Greg Guard wants it
(06:39):
to be. But if Winter is going to miss some
time or if he's going to be limited, that is
going to cause some problems for this Badger's team because
they really don't have much else in terms of a
big man helping them out there. With Krow getting limited
minutes most of the season, he's not playing as much
as he has been. And you know, Carter Gilmore playing
(07:02):
the four is a lot different than Nolan Winter playing
the four, or Ricardo Greppi coming in and playing the four.
You got to have some extra help there on the height,
no doubt about it. Sorry, I turned my mic off
for a second there. I was just concentrating some things
quietly to myself. This is not a Big Ten Championship
(07:23):
caliber team as it is currently constructed without Max Klesmant
and we have seen that now for four consecutive games,
three full games without Klesmant. They took care of business
against a Washington team, but that Washington team is now officially,
by a mile, the worst team in the conference. Right,
So Penn State had had an enigma of a season.
They're going to score the most points in program history
(07:44):
this year, but they still didn't win and they were
like second in the Big Ten in steels, first in
the Big Ten in another category. They just simply could
not win games like they did today, and they struggled
closing out games. They lost a lot of close games,
and that's where it was coming down the wire. Wisconsin
was closed and you felt, Okay, maybe there's a way
that the Penn State ruins this and ruins their chance.
(08:05):
But they kept on shooting. Wisconsin was not able to
make any shots, not able to steal any momentum back,
and that's where Penn State was able to run away
with the game. And there's more reaction coming up, more
thoughts on this game as we see it on full
We're gonna talk with Nick Ghoston in twenty four to
seven Sports coming up later on the show as well.
(08:27):
We got fun facts with Dave coming up. Also, that's
gonna be on the other side Badgers fall to Penn
State eighty six seventy five. You're listening to the Jane
Kse Security Solutions Basketball postgame show.
Speaker 4 (08:43):
I got big Gillie whips at the crowd. Alex Blackwell
off the left link, pushed it up at traffic, don't
lay bound cross slam dunk Steven Cwell with the followed
place is stopped a time out taken by Penn State,
as the Badgers have moved to.
Speaker 1 (08:59):
Within six in the finale of the twenty twenty four
to twenty five regular season. Coming up is going to
be Big Ten tournament play for the Badgers, and we
(09:20):
don't know what seed they're going to be quite yet.
They are not guaranteed a top four seed. They are
not guaranteed a double by it. It is still a
possibility for them to get one, but they had a
chance to guarantee it with a win today. They did
not get the win against Penn State, who is bottom
(09:41):
two in the conference, will not make the tournament. DeMarco
Dunn was really kind of the big thing for Penn
State in this game. Twenty five points, ten of twelve
from the field. This guy averages just under eight points
a game this year. And just had an absolute game,
just balled out and the Badgers had no answer for him.
Speaker 2 (10:03):
Yeah, this is what happens when you kind of have
a team that's playing for a lot and a team
that's playing for pride. And Penn State came out there
and they let it rip. They had nothing to lose,
and DeMarco Dunn was one of those guys. He's been
slowly increasing his output as the season has gone on.
And just to circle back on the comments I made
during our last segment, Penn State leads all of Big
(10:25):
Ten Basketball in steels per game at eight point two, right,
and that's something that they like to pride themselves on.
Speaker 1 (10:31):
We only got five today.
Speaker 2 (10:33):
But the difference for me in terms of looking at
this game, Yes, Done had a huge game for Penn State,
but to circle back and look at the Wisconsin side
of things, they assisted on five of their first six
buckets and then they finished for the eleven total assists
in the game. Right, there was limited action on the
offensive end where the offensive players were able to kind
(10:54):
of set things up and find their teammates. We've talked
a lot about how the Badgers have been really good
at slashing and getting to the rim and John Blackwell,
by no means had a bad game today, But that's
something that he's grown We've grown accustomed to highlighting for
him as his ability to find him with himself at
the bucket a teammate gets the ball down inside to him.
And also John Tanjay Man, I mean he is now
(11:15):
in a prolonged cold stretch from the production we have
seen from him earlier this season. Right, so he's now
had four straight games under twenty. He's struggling from deep
six for his last twenty four from three point range.
This is now starting to become concerning because he's kind
of the guy that leads this team. It's not even
(11:36):
a hot topic there, It's not even a hot take.
I mean, he is how this team goes this season
more often than not.
Speaker 1 (11:42):
Yeah, and two of thirteen shooting from tan Jay today,
age is not great for him at all. You could
tell he was getting a little bit frustrated with some
of the shots that he was taking and how he
was playing there. And Butcher has talked about this number
of time on number of times when the broadcast ball movement,
as you talked about the assists, not enough ball movement,
pass it pass it around, move the ball back and forth,
(12:04):
trying to beat that zone, and they weren't able to
do it in this game. And it's it's a problem
because that's how they've been successful all season long. They've
gotten away and fallen away from what's gotten them successful,
what's gotten them so many wins and potentially a two
seed in the NCAA tournament, maybe now a three seed
after this. I mean, they're kind of right on that line,
(12:25):
that two seed, three seed line, and it's.
Speaker 2 (12:28):
Who knows, maybe they could be a four I mean,
if we're being honest, man, they might have been a
sixth seed in the Big Ten Tournament. I mean, more
likely than being the four seed is being the sixth
seed in next week's Big Ten Tournament.
Speaker 3 (12:40):
It is.
Speaker 1 (12:40):
It is wild to see where this team is at.
Speaker 2 (12:42):
And we were so close, Dave to having one of
the most positive Steven Krowle conversations ever, because this dude
was really lighting.
Speaker 1 (12:51):
It up to start.
Speaker 2 (12:52):
He had nineteen points at that point, he was eight
of eleven shooting well.
Speaker 1 (12:56):
Then he finishes zero for four.
Speaker 2 (12:57):
He doesn't score in the last nine and a half
into the game, and he had a good game, but
he was kind of the reason that they were leading early,
because of how he was able to develop his game
in today's matchup, and then down the stretch he disappears.
It's unfortunate how this one really came together for the
Badgers senior Day, a game against the team that everyone
(13:18):
kind of chalked up as a w This is by
far their worst loss of the year. It's just an
it's an loss.
Speaker 1 (13:25):
This an Oregon are really ugly. I mean they were
up big, you know, with how the game tran collapsed.
Speaker 2 (13:31):
You're right, how the game came together, how they lost
to Oregon was the ugliest one. But we're talking about
Oregon's on the precipice of being a quad one team.
Speaker 1 (13:39):
Yeah, this team in terms of the resume, Yeah that
in terms of resume, this is the biggest loss for
Wisconsin absolutely. And Stephen Crell had to play some extended
minutes today as well, thirty one minutes of game action
for him. That because Nolan Winter ended up leaving this
game with an injury, and that's really kind of some
(14:00):
That is going to be something to watch as well.
With concerns over what this team is going to be
able to do, and really we haven't seen Crow play
this many minutes very often. This year. We've seen Crowd
play thirty one minutes just twice all season, and the
game against Arizona when they took down a top ten
(14:22):
Arizona team, and at Maryland, we're the only times he's
played thirty one full minutes of game action this year.
So it doesn't happen a lot. So having to play
a little bit extra without Nolan Winter maybe led to
a little bit of struggles there late in the game,
but it was a tough end. It was a tough
(14:42):
battle for Wisconsin, and now they've got to regroup. As
Guard was talking about, the guy, dust themselves off and
get ready for the Big ten tournament. It's better to
have this loss now than to have it in tournament time.
I will say that. I think it is important to
note as well, but you're out of time for these
kinds of losses.
Speaker 3 (15:02):
Now.
Speaker 1 (15:03):
It's go time. Now, it's Big ten tournament, NCAA tournaments.
I mean, you're only guaranteed, really at this point, two
more games is really all you're guaranteed.
Speaker 2 (15:12):
Yeah, you got anything fun for me today?
Speaker 1 (15:15):
Anything? Is there? Oh? Is there any fun facts?
Speaker 4 (15:21):
Oh?
Speaker 1 (15:21):
We got some fun facts?
Speaker 3 (15:23):
Oh?
Speaker 1 (15:24):
Oh, if you were hurting me. Here's the term fun fact.
I got a couple of fun facts here. Because I
have a fun fact, you have a fun fact. I
do first time in history this has happened that eight games,
five turnovers, and he's recorded thirty five assists, spent a
long time since we've seen a game like this.
Speaker 5 (15:43):
Lot to tap the fun out here.
Speaker 1 (15:44):
This game's fun. Okay, I don't know if that fact
is fun. Yeah, are you fired up? I'm fired up
for fun facts with Dave.
Speaker 4 (15:54):
Oh right.
Speaker 1 (15:54):
Got a couple of just a couple of facts here
on this one the scene your class because it is
senior day. We got to talk about the seniors. The
Badgers have six of them in this on this team.
You got Kamara McGee, you got john Tonjay, you got
Stephen kraw you have Marcus Silver and daughter Gilmore, Carter
(16:16):
Gilmore yep as well. And then.
Speaker 2 (16:21):
I said, John Conjay, there's so many you can't even
know Klesmin Krasmit, Yeah, pleasment did not play that.
Speaker 1 (16:28):
That is the one that I was missing there. But yeah,
that that group combined for five hundred and fifty six
games for the Badgers, two hundred and sixty six starts
and combining today's point totals three thousand, six hundred and
five points for the Badgers from these six seniors. So
(16:50):
congratulations to them finishing out their senior year. And here's
kind of a final fun fact here. So it starts
off negative, but it gets positive.
Speaker 6 (17:00):
At the end.
Speaker 1 (17:01):
Okay, So the Badger's home winning streak against Penn State
was snapped today twenty two games. It's the first time
in thirty years that Penn State has won in Madison
since nineteen ninety five was the last time they won.
It's the first time at the Coal Center that Penn
State has won. The last time Penn State won in
(17:22):
Madison was at the UW field House. That's how long
ago it was. Yeah, we weren't alive. No, we were not,
And it's just it's mind boggling how long it's been.
But now that that win streak is snapped, there is
a new longest active home win streak in the Big
Ten and it still belongs to Wisconsin. India now against
(17:43):
Indiana at twenty one games is the longest longest winning
streak home winning streak in the Big Ten that's active.
So even though the Badgers technically lost the crown for
the longest active home winning streak against a conference opponent.
They still retained the crown. It's now with the Indiana Hoosiert.
All right, well, unfortunate, but we'll take it.
Speaker 2 (18:04):
We're still on top for longest home winning streak exactly.
Speaker 1 (18:08):
So hey, there's there's some positivity to take away, and
we're gonna get some more positivity, hopefully from Nick Osin
of twenty four to seven Sports. He's going to be
joining us on the other side as we get his
thoughts his reaction to this Badger's loss at home eighty
six seventy five on senior Day to the Penn State
Nitney Lions. That's coming up next. You're not gonna want
to miss it. This is the Jane K Security Solutions
(18:30):
Basketball postgame Show.
Speaker 4 (18:37):
Five two remaining Tanjay into Janiki at the right block,
he brings it back out to the wing announcers the
Blackwell he'll try at three right quarter. Good, we dearly
need a triple. We're Blackwell on the Wisconsin Badgers. O.
Speaker 1 (18:52):
Since has you covered? Go to Jksecurity dot com for
more info and for more info on the Badgers, we
go to Nick Osen of twenty four to seven Sports.
He joins us now on the hotline and Nick, this
one has to be disappointing. Really has to be eating
at the guys Senior Day, a lot of energy, a
lot of excitement, chance to get a double buy in
(19:14):
the Big Ten Tournament, and they start out hot, but
Badgers just ended up falling flat there in the second
half in this one, and they lost a real big
opportunity here in this game.
Speaker 5 (19:27):
Yeah, guys, I'm gonna be honest, you know, this is
a big one. I know I'm always optimistic in things
of that nature, and there's still essentially a lot of
basketball to be played, but like you mentioned, Dave, opportunities
were really kind of left impossible today. I think it
was a big one for the Big Ten Tournament obviously.
I think that the Milwaukee chances will definitely take a hit.
(19:48):
And I think that you know, you alluded to it
a little bit, Dave kind of going into the second half,
but Steve Crowell, right guard, they both discussed it a
little bit. The team was lacking some of that bite
and some of that grit, especially def that we have
really seen recently. And I think even though the offense
is struggling at times in games coming in the defense
was doing a nice job and today you just did
(20:10):
not really see that. I mentioned it on a couple
of things, including a preview that Penn State has some
good guards, and I think you saw that today. I'm
not sure if it was overlooking a little bit, but
tough one to swallow hereon Madison guys for the guys,
and I will tell you the players definitely showed that
a little bit as well.
Speaker 2 (20:26):
Posting Nick, you look at a guy like John Tanjay
in how many fantastic games and how many great moments
he's had this year where it feels like he couldn't
miss from deep, and you build that confidence, But they
weren't always wide open shots that John was nailing.
Speaker 1 (20:42):
And now he's going.
Speaker 2 (20:43):
Through a prolonged cold streak six for his last twenty
four from deep, and today there were shots that people
are like, yeah, Betty wishes he could have that one back.
Not a great selection. Is there a concern for you
in terms of confidence, because when he's confident and he's
making his shots, there aren't many players in this conference,
let alone this country, that are better than him.
Speaker 5 (21:05):
Yeah, Nick, I don't think it's as much concerned maybe
about his confidence. But I just feel like some of
these numbers, like you kind of alluded to, are coming
in at a tough time right now. Whether that is
tough shots that he had been making earlier in the season,
whether it's just kind of you know, the length of
the season and at times guys maybe appear fatigued. I'm
not saying that's the case by any means. I mean,
(21:27):
we know that weird things happened throughout the course, but
what you alluded to, it's kind of tough to see
at times because even some open shots have not been falling.
And I just feel like he is your alpha. I
think there are multiple alphas on this team, but you
need to see some of those go down. It'll be
really really intriguing to see kind of that first matchup
in the Big Ten tournament. And on top of really
(21:49):
all of that, guys, and this is somebody we have
talked about in a lot of our great shows this year.
They're missing Max Klusman. I think they're missing him on
both ends. I think they're missing him off the floor,
which the leadership that he brings the defensively, They're just
I didn't see a ton of communication and certainly not
kind of playing on a string that you need to
see defensively, and I think that ultimately led to the
(22:11):
demise today.
Speaker 1 (22:12):
Yeah, we've been talking a lot about not having Max
Klesmith these past couple of games and how that's impacted them.
And then the Badgers lose Nolan Winter in this game
as well to an injury, just thirteen minutes of game action,
but six rebounds in those thirteen minutes seven points. Second
leading rebounder in this game. Only john Ton Jay out
(22:36):
rebounded him, and that seemed to be a presence of
that they were missing too late in this game when
it came to being down there in the paint, grabbing rebounds,
getting points. Badger's just seven of twenty on layups. What
update do you have on Nolan Winter's status? And also,
as you mentioned, Max Klesman, when can we expect to
see him back?
Speaker 5 (22:55):
So I'll go with Klesman first. I'm optimistic you will
see him very soon, potentially this week. I didn't see
a boot on him the last day or two, and
I felt like he was getting really close, So I
think he'll be back soon. Coach Guard was asked about
Nolan Winter postgame. I think it's probably a little bit
early for an update. He did put him back out
(23:15):
there after kind of whatever initially happened on that dunk,
but then he said that Nolan just wasn't really moving
as kind of he expects as he needs him to,
and obviously that's something that will need to be cleared up.
So I'm a little bit more optimistic on Klesminton, but
that is just because of more familiarity with the injury
really and just knowing about it coming in the Winter
thing was tough though, like you said, Dave, they really
(23:37):
missed him, I think, not just really offensively, but even
though he's not necessarily a key key shot blocker, like,
he's a bit of a rim protector that can help
this group and certainly dominate on the glass.
Speaker 2 (23:50):
Nick, are you well versed in the Big Ten seeding scenarios,
because we've been trying to break those down as we've
gone on in this post game show. To my understand
that almost in all likelihood, they're going to be the
sixth seed. Right if things hold, Maryland wins, Ucla wins,
there'll be a three way tie with Purdue, Ucla Wisconsin.
(24:11):
They all went one and one in that grouping, and
then UCLA has beaten Michigan State, so they get the
preferential treatment there Where do the Badgers kind of sit
in the hierarchy and how could this thing figure itself out?
Speaker 5 (24:24):
Yeah, so I would say I'm pretty well versed. Similarly,
I've just been trying to kind of live through it
up today, but potentially maybe not as well versed at
times as expected because it was so clear that it
was just win today and guarantee yourself a double bys,
so I certainly thought it was going to end up
a win. You're corrected that scenario, neck there is I
think one within there where they can still be a five,
(24:46):
so they'd be playing a little bit. I think that
was earlier Thursday, and then the later game is at
the six on Thursday evening. But in all likelihoods, ninety
five percent plus to five or six obviously lost their
chance at the double by today and just a little
bit unexpected. Guys. You know, this has been a team
that I think we've had a really good pulse on
(25:06):
throughout this show and this awesome season. And while it's
not like do or die, because of course there's postseason
still going. I was a little bit surprised. I'm not
sure if it was kind of senior day things or
just maybe not expecting or Penn State just playing good basketball,
which they certainly did. But that first half run and
coach guard alluded to it, that really really hurt Wisconsin
(25:27):
today because that allowed Penn State to have some confidence
and see what could potentially be possible.
Speaker 2 (25:33):
Nick, before we have to let you go, I just
wanted to touch base on the national tournament in your
gut reaction and you're feeling, I have to imagine the
Badgers are now floating around a four seed, not necessarily
anywhere close to a two seed.
Speaker 5 (25:46):
Yeah, so I would say, no real shot Nick at
a two. I think that some one or two people
I've just kind of checked in with after this would
maybe see like the bottom three. But you're right likely
around to four right now. I think there's a chance
make some noise in Indy to still end up as
a three, because of course, other teams still have to
play their conference tournament, and the resume is still strong,
(26:07):
the metrics will still be pretty good. I think just
to quad two loss as a whole, and I've seen
many other bad ones going forward. But yeah, two, very
very very unlikely. And this is going to hurt some
chances at Milwaukee as well.
Speaker 4 (26:20):
Nick.
Speaker 1 (26:21):
Yeah, and that's something that everyone's had their eyes on
for the Badgers as the season has gone on. But
we'll see what happens in Indianapolis. And Nick, I'm assuming
you're going to be there for the Big Ten Tournament. Absolutely, guys,
all right, Nick osen as always, we appreciate it you
hopping on and we will talk to you again in
Indy on Thursday, potentially Friday, potentially Saturday, who knows, as
(26:46):
they keep it going, maybe even Sunday. It could be possible.
Anything anythink it can happened, Nick.
Speaker 5 (26:52):
Thank you so much, guys. I'm looking forward to it.
Appreciate you all right.
Speaker 1 (26:55):
There, he goes Nick Oson of twenty four to seven Sports,
joining us here on the Jay Case Cauredy Solutions basketball
postgame show. The Badgers fall eighty six seventy five to
the Penn State Nitney Lyons. Coming up next is going
to be that Big Ten Tournament in Indianapolis. We don't
know who the Badgers get, well face, we don't know
what seed yet they will be. What we do know
(27:16):
is that Greg Gard is coming up after the break.
We're gonna get his thoughts, his reaction after this loss
to Penn State. That's coming up. This is the Jane
K Security Solutions Basketball postgame Show.
Speaker 4 (27:33):
Eighty two to seventy four Penn State. Second free throw
for Ton Jay is good. Eighty two seventy five, thirty
nine seconds to play. They get it into ball to
win quickly. McGee trying to rip it away. A pass
out that billion who got by Tan Jay, Dillion Lobs,
Peter Houser sends it down hard. Eighty four to seventy five.
Pence State down to thirty seconds remaining.
Speaker 1 (27:56):

Wisconsin Badgers fall to Penn State eventually eighty six seventy five.
Here in this one, it was senior Day in Madison
(28:17):
at the Coal Center. Twenty two game win streak against
Penn State at home gets snapped. Was the longest win
streak home win streak in conference play in the Big
Ten and now the Badgers no longer hold that record
against Penn State, but they still have it against Indiana,
so there is there are positives to take away from this.
(28:39):
But Wisconsin, they miss a chance to get the double
by guaranteed in this one, and it was a disappointing
end to this game, and Greg Guard was disappointed as
he ended up talking with Matt Lepey and Brian Butch
after the game.
Speaker 4 (28:54):
Coach a lot of things that you would tell your team,
but not the least of which is you're playing again
and then you're gonna play again after that, so there's
dust off.
Speaker 6 (29:01):
And yeah, yeah, I mean this is obviously, you know,
just credit to Penn State. You know, I thought they
were more aggressive, they were more physical, and the game
really turned at the end of the first half. I thought,
you know, we had a thirteen point lead and we
go ten possessions, don't score. They go on an eight
o' run and ended the half with the three that
(29:22):
we were too soft on the ball, and Baldwin hits
the three, actually his only bucket of the game, and
it just gave them a lot of confidence, a lot
of momentum going into halftime, and I just I didn't
like other than the first few minutes. I didn't like
what I saw defensively. I didn't think we had the
same fighte to us and fight to us, and we
could never seem to get them under control and get
(29:45):
the ball under control. You know, we were running underneath
some screens, but done once he got going. You know,
just you know, I didn't like how we competed, and
and you know, so that's as I told a team,
that's we're lucky. I mean, this, this stings, This isn't fun,
(30:07):
but we'll have opportunities to see how we respond, and
we're gonna have one whenever we play next week. And
we've got to be much better, you know, We've got
to be better in terms of just simple things that
we weren't good enough at today.
Speaker 3 (30:21):
Yeah, it looked like it to me, Like there's a
lot of you know, downhill drives and all of a sudden,
they're getting in there now, all of a sudden, they've
got layups, they've got lives. And when you give a
team like Penn State, who knows this is their last
game some confidence right now of a sudden, got your
hands full, that's kind of you could Like you talked
about that yeah, what happened offensively, It just at times
kind of looked like it got a little mucky.
Speaker 6 (30:42):
It did, you know, with some of their you know,
playing within the zone stuff and some switching and then
the ball goes to the high post and they go
man to man. And you know, I thought we had
some good looks too, even in the first half, some
really good looks, you know. And when we did pull
it inside, we scored a little bit in there, but
not near as much as what we should have, not
near as we were we were two. We didn't go
(31:03):
at the rim, We didn't go at.
Speaker 3 (31:04):
That seven of twenty four layups.
Speaker 4 (31:06):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (31:06):
Yeah, it just we didn't come with any physicality and
we were we were flipping things and trying to finesse
shoot things instead of going to really drawing contact and
drawing the file making them follow us. Like I said,
I just uh, I'll go through the tape and watch things.
But you know, I know, the the mood right now
in the locker room is not good and it shouldn't
be good because that was not a good performance. Well.
Speaker 4 (31:28):
Another thing that every program in America getting ready for postseason,
everybody holds his breadth about his health. Yeah, and Max
obviously working his way back, and then Nolan and he
uh tell.
Speaker 1 (31:38):
Us, I don't know.
Speaker 6 (31:39):
I mean, obviously he came back in, and when I
put him back in, I didn't think he looked like
he was ready for what was coming.
Speaker 1 (31:47):
So I don't know.
Speaker 6 (31:47):
He's he'll meet with our doctors and stuff, you know
here and see where where he's at with stuff. But uh,
like I said, it's yeah, we gotta get healthy, but
we there's got to be a response, a better spons
and what I saw today. Appreciate your time, all right, thanks, Hey,
congratulations on the Hall of Fame.
Speaker 4 (32:05):
Thank you, sir, well deserved. I scored no points, no rebounds, oss,
but okay, well you guys make it easy for us,
put it that way. We didn't today. Well, you're a
great group of people, all right, it goes beyond that.
Appreciate you man. Thanks Greg. All right, Badger's getting ready
now for the Big ten tournament next week. As Penn stay.
This afternoon eighty six to seventy five.
Speaker 1 (32:27):
There was Badger's head coach at Greg Guard talking with
Matt Lapay and Brian Butch after this one, and you know, honestly, Nick,
that might have been the highlight of the day Matt
Lapey getting inducted in the Badgers Hall of Fame at halftime.
That was a fantastic fights see and it seemed like
maybe a bit of a surprise for Matt. Yeah, they did.
Speaker 2 (32:45):
They pulled him out to mid court Athletic director Chris McIntosh,
and you can see in some of the videos posted
that Mac got.
Speaker 1 (32:52):
A little misty eyed. It's tough to be honored.
Speaker 2 (32:55):
He's a guy that's very much comfortable behind the mic,
behind the scenes, but he is ben the scenes of
I mean almost every big moment that you can think of.
I mean, you hear it on the intro to the show,
to their program, you know.
Speaker 1 (33:09):
And I can't believe I'm gonna say it.
Speaker 2 (33:12):
You know, it's two thousand, that was twenty five years
ago that that call was made.
Speaker 1 (33:16):
The Badger's are going to the final four. Yeah, it's
been an incredible run. And hopefully he gets another one
of those calls this year. That would be lovely to
be able to hear that. It is tournament time. It
is marched. The regular season is now done. That's it
for the regular season. Coming up next the Big Ten Tournament.
Where will the Badgers be seated. Who knows they could
(33:40):
still potentially get the double by We're still waiting on
that on the outcomes of a couple more games, but
in all likelihood they're probably going to be playing on
Thursday time TBD. Opponent TBD. We will find out as
Big Ten Tournament gets underway, but that is gonna be
coming up all this weekend. So that is gonna be
when the Badgers are next in action, and we'll be
(34:01):
with you for every single game, every single step of
the way as we get to the Big Ten tournaments
and the NCAA tournaments as that unfold. Once again, your
final score here today Penn State eighty six, Wisconsin seventy
five for Casey James, our producer for Nick Bruswiz. I'm
Dave Gasper. Thank you for listening. This has been the
(34:21):
Jane K Security Solutions Besketball postgame Show for maining.
Speaker 4 (34:25):
It's Kamari McGee outside left. He'll let fly a three
on the wing and that's an airball caught by Hicks
head to dellyon un contested dunk. If he wants it,
but he turns it down, he'll dribble out the clock
and the Penn State and Ntney Lyons will win in
Madison for the first time in thirty years. It's over
at the Coal Center. Well, the Badgers started out so hot,
(34:49):
offensively led by thirteen at forty to twenty seven. Penn
State had an eight point run to in the half,
and then Penn State just hit Wisconsin in the face
in the second halfem
Speaker 1 (35:07):
Mm hmm.
