Kickoff. He's just moments away nowwith the cold of the game. Here's
Mark Tauscher and the voice of theBadgers, Matt Lapee. Good afternoon from
sold out Camp Randall Stadium in Madison, alongside Mark Tauscher, sideline reporter Patrick
Herb, engineer Dave McCann's statistician MikeKeller, and Aisha Jackson back at a
(00:22):
network studio. This is Matt Lapey. Welcome to Wisconsin football, and welcome
to a new era, the LukeFickle era. As finally, finally,
the games begin today, the Badgerstaking on the Buffalo Bulls out of the
Mid American Conference. TASH have talkeda lot about how this sport, college
(00:44):
football, maybe more than any othermajor American sport, has the longest off
season, therefore the longest talking season. Finally, we're not going to get
all the answers today, but atleast we can get a look as to
what this Wisconsin team will be allabout. There's been so much speculation,
and obviously we were able to seea little bit at the launch this spring,
(01:04):
but there's just it's so new andit's so unique, So what we've
seen for so long and I thinkthat adds to the level of excitement and
all of the success. If Flongohas had that Luke Fickles had. Now,
I think we're all ready let's takea look. Let's see what this
new era of Badger football is goingto look like. Well, part of
the new era you two, whichwas a great street seb no name,
(01:27):
a great song to get the teamonto the field for many many years.
They're changing that up. You're probablygoing to hear the music a bit more
in the background, a bit louderin the background, trying to get a
little more edge to create that muchmore of a home field advantage touch.
I don't know how much players getinto that, but I'm guessing a little
(01:48):
bit because I'm thinking maybe some ofthe music could be a little bit of
player input. I don't know whatyou're selected. It would not be probably
what's going to be played today.I'd be more journey Killers type. But
listen, I think there is it'sa new era. We all loved you
too. It got always got chillscoming up my ol. You know,
you know the old right on thearms, but now we have something new
(02:12):
and unique and you you want yourplayers, what are your players gonna respond
to and if that's what this isgonna be and they're gonna play good football,
we're all on board. Yeah, that's kind of the bottom line,
right play good football. It isa hot one right now. I've got
eighty nine degrees, So let's goshow us shy baby Patrick who's down there
in the field. He might begto differ. I'm guessing it's a little
(02:34):
warmer than eighty nine degrees as wecheck in with our sideline reporter, Patrick
Hurd. Yeah, I think thetemperature on field, the real fields,
is gonna be a little over eightynine. As the Wisconsin Badgers are about
to emerge from the tunnel for thefirst time in the Luke Fickel Era,
I just sat and Treves dropped onthe pregame talk, and there's a message
that this team, this coaching staffsends to this team on game dame,
(02:57):
it's reserved for game day. Duringthe sea is in, it's tough,
fasty, and discipline, but ongame day, it's let it fly.
He reiterated to him. You aretrained for this now played fast and fast
doesn't mean tempo how quickly snap itfast means you are trained. You don't
have to think, you just reactand you fly. Are on the ball.
Let it fly is the Montron gameday. We'll see how it takes
(03:20):
effect in game one. All right, Patrick, thank you very much.
Let's check out our Keys to theGame, presented by your Badgerland, Chevy
Dealers and the all new twenty twentyfour Chevy Tracks TAAs you touched on it
a little bit earlier and is whatLuke Fickle was talking about on his show
Wednesday night. I mean, youalways want to tackle, well, you
always want to secure the football. It's a key to the game. And
(03:44):
it's also for an opener maybe theconcerns of the game right without the ones
weren't going through full contact take himto the ground scrimmages, So for an
opening game, tackling, ball securityis something they look at even more.
Yeah, that's always the concerned thatyou have when you're training. Camps aren't
going to be full on live football, you you know, catching the football,
(04:08):
securing it and not fumbling it.You know, quarterbacks protecting the quarterback,
they're not getting hit, how arethey going to stay in the pocket?
But ball security and then on theother side of it, tackling because
you can practice it, you cantackle dummies, you can do all this
stuff, but it's a whole differentanimal when you're coming down enough, can
you finish at the quarterback? Andare you gonna get guys down to the
(04:29):
ground because mis tackles and turning thefootball over. That's how teams like Buffalo
can come in here and make thisa football game. Captain's meeting at midfield
for the coin toss. The honorarycaptain today a very familiar name, Derek
Wattson, an outstanding player for theBadgers with twenty eleven to twenty fifteen and
a really good run with the PittsburghSteelers. Let's go down for the toss
(04:50):
of the coin. The referee isCole Can Nipple, by the way,
as Raylan Allen, him, Rayd k Uma, Jung Metta, Marty
Stree. The Badger captains and it'sBuffalo winning. Has won the toss and
(05:11):
has chosen to defer their choice tothe second half. So that means the
Wisconsin offense we'll get the first opportunityagain. Sunshine here eighty nine degrees,
nearly the hottest game on record forthe Wisconsin Badgers at Camp Randalls Stadium.
Hot enough, let's put it thatway, kind of like the bucket hats
(05:33):
twis that the students have today. That's a that's a nice little hey.
Anything that I know that's been that'sobviously been something people have talked about for
a while. Is getting a studentsection pretty nice showing for as hot as
it is. And yeah, it'syou call it a bucketheat kind of look
like Gilligan, right, Gilligan's Islandstype deal. Here you go, And
anytime you give college students something free, they're gonna take it. How many
(05:54):
of those college kids know what Gilligan'sIsland is? Well, that is a
great question. J I would betthat none of them would know who Gilligan
was. Guess Well, in honorof the non student crowd, Mark and
I will be got a new skipper, got a new skipper in town,
professor. There you go, Thankyou. That's very smooth skipper. Fickle
the Fighting Pickles getting ready to takeon the Buffalo Bulls. Maurice Linguist is
(06:17):
in his third year. He steppedin after Lance light Bulb took the Kansas
job. It was a buffy firstyear, but he was kind of late
to the party before he was namedthe head coach last year, much better
seven and six and a winner intheir bowl game against Georgia Southern. The
Badgers will receive go left to right, that's north to south. Benny Anthony
(06:40):
and Jim ray dk are deep Badgersin the home Cardinal uniforms and the white
trim, the visiting Buffalo Bulls andthe white unis in the blue trim.
As we are at long last, about set to go here in Madison.
That's always interesting a decision making.And I know it's the opener, it's
(07:00):
the first game for both teams, but defer take the football. I always,
especially if i'm an underdocument, Iwant the football. I want to
go down and see what I cando, try to put a little scoreboard
pressure on a team that's favored.Alex McNulty will handle the kicking duties for
Buffalo. He was the Mid AmericanConference Special Teams Player of the Year last
(07:21):
year. He was deadly accurate strongleg last year. His long field goal
successful field goal is fifty four yards, was a yard better than that a
couple of years ago. Not muchin the way of wind, at least
down on the field. It lookslike so maybe a return chance we'll find
(07:42):
out momentarily for either chim Y dK or Vinny Anthony as McNulty on the
run up and the kick is inthe air and he got all of it,
there will be no return. Ithits the back line of the end
zone at touchback. And this seasonis underway as the Badgers will start at
their twenty five yard line. Dad, and this is what everybody is excited
(08:03):
to see the new offense. Howmuch difference gonna look. It's gonna look
a lot different. And to me, I always want to get my quarterback
in rhythm, early, quick, easy throws, get him comfortable, especially
on his first game. Here JackNelson, Joe Huber, Tanner, Boordealini,
Michael Fertney, Riley Malman. That'sthe offensive line left to right,
(08:24):
paidon Rucci, Will Pauling, BrysonGreen come out? Why to the right,
Shimmery DK wide to the left.Badgers almost exclusively worked from the shotgun
Braylan Allen to the left of thequarterback Tanner Mordecai. First snap from scrimmage,
here's a hand up Raylan Allen offthe right side twenty five yard line,
bangs across the thirty up to thethirty four yard line. Game of
nine. On the first play fromscrimmage this season, Marcus Fuquah there's safety
(08:48):
up to make the tackle. TheBadgers get back on the ball. Second
of one at their own thirty fouryard line. Pauling slot left. Mordecai
brings his hands together, takes thestamp hands to Braylan sidesteps left. It's
the first down, shoots it straightahead up to the fourty yard line,
gain of six. First down Wisconsin. Nice job by Fertney the right guard.
They're pulling out kicking out the leftdefensive end gave Braylin little room to
move Brycing Green wide to the rights. Should Ray DK wide left, Hayden
(09:13):
Ruci slot on the left side forthe Badger forty yard line. First and
ten, Mordecai takes quick shot rightside. Bryson Green will go down and
incomplete at the forty four yard line. Unable to corral the low pass,
Caleb offered the corner on the coverage. Second and ten for the Badgers at
their own forty yard line. Openinga minute just getting started at Camp Randall
(09:35):
dkled wide left, Will Pauling slotleft, Brycing Green wide to the right.
Hayden Ruci in motion the tight end, moving right to left. On
second and ten, Badgers their ownforty yard line. Mordecai takes Blaye Feck
looks the throw dancing around flush tohis right and he'll pop. He'll run
it and tiptoes out of pounds atabout the forty two yard line. Again
(09:56):
the cornerback Caleb offered over there.Mordecai for a couple in the back is
now looking at a third and eight. Yeah, nice protection there, and
you what you like seeing from yourquarterback? All the reads covered. Just
take it, move it, don'tdo anything. Don't try to force something
early. Take we can get.Try to get yourself in a manageable third
down. D k Rouci and polingout wide to the lefts rising Green to
(10:18):
the right. Braylan Allen the runningback for the forty two yard line of
Wisconsin. Third down, eight yardsto go. Play clock is at ten.
It's Mordecai surveys the Buffalo defense. If you're bringing some pressure, and
they'll bring five. Mordecai steps upunder pressure and down he goes. Max
Michelle, the defensive end getting toMordecai at the thirty nine yard line of
(10:39):
Wisconsin, a loss of three andthe Badgers are forced to pun Yeah,
Buffalo showed they ran their guys up, had every gap covered. That makes
it tough, tough to end updropping out, But nice job by Brylan
Allen getting him on the ground.Ball has to come out there when you
have that kind of pressure that's noton the online of that ball has to
come out. It didn't and knopoff of Tho's gonna at the football back
(11:00):
and the freshman add a kiss.Bertram's from Sydney, Australia is on the
punt. Ron Cook is deep forBuffalo near the Bulls ten yard line.
It's fourth and eleven for the Badgersat their thirty nine Peter Balden, who's
the long snapper, good snap,Bertram's the left footed punter, and the
kick is away, hangs up inthe air, hit it fairly short and
(11:22):
it takes a Buffalo bounce and thelong snapper Balden will touch it up.
How about the twenty seven yard linein Buffalo territory, So that's where the
Bulls will take over after a thirtyfour yard punt two minutes five seconds into
the game, no score at CampRandle. Yeah, I think that's a
little bit of nerves, but alsoyou want to pound the football. Wisconsin
(11:45):
has this thing where you're you're gonnabe looking. It's gonna be dictated how
many people are in the box. That's what Wisconsin is looking at. If
you're gonna run it with a certainnumber, you're gonna throw it. And
unfortunately you had the one incomplete passkind of set you back and that forced
the tough situation. Wisconsin had toget it back up and the Bulls will
start at their twenty six yard line, first and ten, moving right to
(12:05):
left. His way view at fourreceivers to either side, Bull Snyder the
quarterback. He is in the shotgun. Snyder on first down takes the staff,
whips it to the right, anda rolling catch made up across the
thirty yard line and up to thethirty one the tied end. Jake Orlando
is there on a gain of five. Second down and five for the Bulls.
Running back is Mike Washington. He'sa software out of Utica, New
(12:28):
York. Two receivers stack to theright, two receivers stack to the left.
A low snap dug out by Snyderquick shot right side hit behind the
line of scrimmage. All right, that's good work by Alexander Smith getting to
Booby Curry, the wide receiver insidethe thirty of Buffalo and near the twenty
eight. That's a loss of threeand it's third down and eight. Really
good job there by Smith. Thefighting through that block because there's all kinds
(12:50):
of space you have to come acrosshis face to get in position. Nice
job getting him down too. Downlineman for the Badger's geopiaz and Rhodas Johnson
hunt a Wolder the safety creeping upnear the line of scrimmage. Three receivers
left, one on the right,Third down in eight Buffalo for the Bulls.
Twenty eight yard line. Right o'clockis at ten for Cole Snyder call
us with the ball. It takesthe snap back to throw, steps up,
(13:13):
weaving to his left up across thethirty yard line and he gets Sandwich
phunts he Wolder Jake Cheney getting therewell. Shy of the first down.
They'll mark at the thirty two andit will be fourth down and four for
Buffalo. Really nice job. They'restand discipline with your passing lanes and also
making sure you can let him creepout. He picked up a couple of
yards, know where the sticks areand then rallying to the football. Wisconsin's
(13:37):
defensive A great job they're getting offthe field. Anthony Vaneri is their puncher
average day Buffalo season best forty threeyards per punt last year. Him er
Ay DK is deep at the twentyfour of Wisconsin line of scrimmage. The
thirty two of Buffalo snap is clean, pressure is light, and they kick
his away. It hangs up there. Faircatch signaled by DK and he'll gather
(13:58):
near the oney eight guard line inWisconsin territory. That was a forty one
yard punt. Today's game is rotto when quart by Alliance Energy. Visit

Badgers. The offensive coordinator is PhilLongo, and he's gonna be an active
guy every every game this season.Patrick looking to tell us about long ago,
if the mechanics of playcalling have drasticallychanged from the previous eras to this
one. In the past, you'dsee Wisconsin's backup quarterbacks signaling different plays to
the quarterback were a couple of dummycalls and then there was one that actually
was the correct call, and thatwould come in from whoever was calling the
(15:05):
plays via headset. Now Phil Longo'scut out all minim and he does the
calls himself, a couple quick signals, and away they go. He wants
it as fast as possible. Badgersstarted their twenty seven yard line first and

to the forty yard line of thefirst down run of thirteen yards for chess
Mo Lucy, the fifth year seniorout of Naples, Florida. Four minutes
(15:26):
and change gone by, we hadno score in Madison. Really nice job.
Pull left guard and left tackle, kick out, pull around, big
gashing haul from Lucy DK and paulingout wide to the left. First down,
handoff to Melucy again bangs his wayup the middle for about three yards
to the forty three of Wisconsin.Jayer Stephens Senior out of New York on
(15:46):
that defensive line makes a shop seconddown and seven. Then the Badgers do
not huddle. That's just not whatthey do anymore. Two receivers left,
Rice and Green out wide to therights from the forty three yard line.
Snap back to Mordecai quick shot rightside and that is caught by Bryson Green
a little moved to the outside, gets close to the stick, which is
the fifty yard line. Marcus Footweathersafety along with linebacker Joe Andresen over there
(16:11):
and they will signal first down forWisconsin right at the fifty. Really nice
job and not just catching it.Get he turned up, picked up a
couple actution to pick up that firstdown. Waal and Allen back in they
were at running back. Green comesout to the right. He came pulling
to the left. First down, hand off to Alan, not much up
the middle, try to cut tohis right. Not a lot there at
all and C J. Bazil upon the tackle the defensive end, gain
(16:34):
of one for Braylan to the fortynine of Buffalo second out coming up five
minutes gone by, we have noscore. Tucker Ashcraft the tied end wing
on the left side on second andnine for the Buffalo forty nine yard line.
The Bordelini is the center, sendsit back to Mordicai. Thanks the
(16:55):
hand off to Allan Mordicai looking he'llchuck it to the left side. That's
caught by Will Pauling inside the fortyyard line, steps out of hounds at
the thirty eight of the far side, gain of eleven at a first down
four Wisconsin. Really nice job onthe protection side there and Jim ray DK
did a really nice job of clearingout let Pauling come in underneath, and
a great throw there by Mordechai.Rucci pulling and Green out wide to the
(17:18):
right. Himmory Dka to the leftfirst in ten, Wisconsin at the Buffalo
thirty eight yard line where Eylan Allenis the running back, snap back to
Mordechai, swings at right side, caught by Brailan Allen gets a block inside
the forty inside the thirty five anddown here the thirty three yard line.
He will Pauling doing a little work, trying to create some space for Brailan
Allen. A gain of five tothe thirty three Buffalo. Yeah, you
(17:40):
love to see that. It's alwaysfun. Why don'ts love catching the ball
get picking up yards after the catch. But you also gotta get dirty a
little bit there. Nice job ofkicking out, doing just enough to give
Braylan Allen little room there to pickup a quick six quick four. Yep,
it is a gain of four. You're right from the thirty four of
Buffalo. Second down and six Allento the left of mortar guy Tanner gets
(18:00):
the stamp hands off. Raylan Allencuts to the right to the thirty twenty
five yard line, lowers the padsand down to the twenty one yard line
of Buffalo. Clovester Hines, thecornerback on the tackle, lost his hat
in the process of who have tocome out for a play? First and
ten for the Badgers Wisconsin with theday's first scoring threat. Eight forty six
(18:25):
left in this first quarter, wehave no score. K and pauling to
the left, Briston Green out tightto the right. Chez Molucy in there
at running back of the twenty oneof Buffalo. First and ten with the
Badgers, Mordecai, We'll give TomMelucy inside the twenty to the fifteen,
up the hash box inside the tenand down to the seven yard line.
Chez Molucy finding more room. MamanteStruthers gets in there. First and goal
(18:52):
of Wisconsin and they get back onthe ball. Molucy to the left of
the quarterback. Two receivers left, one on the right. Mordecai takes the
stamp, hands off to Lucy, tries to slam off the right side,
gets covered up in about the fiveyard line while he is there, Second
and goal at the five. Lovewhat I'm seeing here a lot of variation
of blocking up from We saw Hubertwith a really nice little skip paw on
the play before that picked up thebig chunk and they're just straight up duo
(19:15):
physical. I'm gonna take the downlinemen move him up to the linebacker that
so you're seeing a little variation ofwhat Wisconsin's trying to do there. We'll
go two tight ends, Hayden Rouccito the left, Tucker Ashcraft to the
right, Lucy the running back,Second and goal at the five yard line
for ten Or Mordicai in the Wisconsinoffense. Mordecai, we'll give it to
Mlucy off the left side, diveinto the goal line and he is just
(19:36):
short of it. We just didmiss regular playing of the goal line.
It's third and goal Wisconsin, halfwaythrough this scoreless first quarter. Yeah,
two tight ends. That was justa hard straight up zone play to the
left. Nice job of movement andNelson really nice run there to pick it
up, gets down to the goalline. Two tight ends again. Here's
the handoff Tom Lucy crashing across andhe is in sound Wisconsin chess. But
(20:02):
Lucy finishes the drive and the Badgersare first on the board. Yeah,
really nice job there. Just againrun off the left side and not a
lot there. Chez me Lucy broughthis feet, put his pad level down
and was able to just get in, giving Wisconsin its first score under the
(20:25):
new administration. Well, you're right, Buffalo didn't make them earn it.
Chez did, in fact earn it. As Nathaniel Vakos, a transfer from
Ohio University. I think you're gonnareview this year, so why not,
of course tell you what it's youcan get a word in, because this
pace in this tempo is you're you'reright. We all knew that it was
(20:45):
going to be quicker and faster, but the variation of what you're doing.
Sometimes it's boom boom, sometimes there'sa little bit more. But Phil Longo
is definitely putting his stamp on thistempo is noticeably would have sibly different than
what we've seen in the past.Yeah, we have certainly seen it with
other programs, but we're all gettingused to this together. I'm taking Lily

the replay out. I want toI want to take a real chance here.
I don't think they should take verylong. That looked like he broke
the plane. I would agree,I'd agree, but you never know.
It's it's early for these guys too. That was just a really nice job.
You know, Chaz. Everybody knowsBraylan's big, squat guy, physical
(21:27):
and I think Chaz there that showedhis leg strength in order to kind of
keep it churning. When you're downon the goal line, things get messy.
You know, there's a lot ofbodies around and you got to make
sure. I always say bring yourfeet, whether you're an old linement or
running back, you want to getyour feet into the end zone. And
hopefully that's what happened. Here's acall for further review the ruling of touchdown

I thought I might jinx it.But well, sometimes even you're right when
it comes to that. Occasionally, you know, they just love it.
I think they'd loved to review.I think they want to make sure all
of their stuff is working too. They haven't they haven't had a game in
a while too. They're trying tomake sure all dotted and teas are crossed.
(22:11):

Eleven play seventy three yards to threeminutes, fifty two seconds Chez Malucy finishing

It is seven nothing Wisconsin leading Buffalo. But what's interesting there is I
think we all were kind of wondering, well, how much throwing is there
going to be? Is it goingto just be all over the place Sprinkland.
You saw a couple were falling witha really nice catch early, and
(23:41):
but that was still a lot ofrunning the football, beating people up front.
So I think for a lot ofus that were wondering why how much
different again today, it's early,it's a small sample size, but you're
seeing that let's be physical upfront. And what I've liked so far is it's
not just straight. You're seeing guardPoll saw a garden at tackle pole.
(24:03):
So there's a lot of different schematicthings that you're seeing up front. And
it still stems back to we're gonnabe physical. We're gonna out muscle and

don't slice. I wish that wasthe case. Man. I'm actually thinking

about three receivers to the right.Washington remains the running back. They

looks fresh. It looks like he'srudy to rock and roll, and he
expecting really big things from him thisseason. He had the club going for

out on the field for a longtime and you don't want to put your
defense back out there in this heat. Even though it's not the hottest game
at Camper. I'm kind of disappointedit's not the hottest game. We're so
close, how does it get overthe hump? Yeah? Officially eighty eight
degrees So so two shy as wesit here in our shaded booth, hats
(28:15):
stop that up here right here's areburning now? Were those sitting in the
east stands at Camp Randle shout outto all of you. They're getting a
direct hit. They get a fivereceiver formation, three on the left,
two on the right for the Bullsforty one yard line, third down,
(28:36):
and four for a quarterback. ColeSnyder gets the stab. Badgers sending for
Snyder throws right side in stride, caught at the thirty. Daryl Harding at
the twenty to the fifteen inside toten had brought down by Alexander Smith.
Daryl Harding Junior the transferred from Dukeand they get a big hit of the
passing game first and goal Buffalo atthe eight. Yeah. I don't know
(28:56):
if that's a communication thing or ifyou're playing the sticks, but obviously something
broke down their wide open, easypitching cats. They come out, trips
to the left. Mike Washington therunning back, low snap dug out by
Snyder, hands off Washington straight aheadand he's able to dive over the pile
for about a yard to the sevensecond down and goal for Buffalo. James
(29:18):
Thompson Junior up off the bottom ofthe pile, and how Geo Piaz will
check into the defense likewise for thelinebacker Jordan Turners, and you got Piaz
in the middle of the front withJames Thompson Junior and Rhodos Johnson flanking him.
Again. Three receivers to the left, Washington the running back, second
and goal Buffalo at the seven yardline. Five twenty left to the first
(29:40):
quarters. Seven nothing Wisconsin. Tothe balls off the big pass play or
the serious scoring opportunity. Snyder callsfor the ball, He gets it,
looks to throw, looking Sex throws, lofts it out and left side in
zone caught Cole Harrody touchdown Buffalo leftcorner of the end zone. Got behind
Como. He lotsu and the bowlswith an answer. It's seven to six
(30:02):
Wisconsin. Yeah, it's just waytoo much time in the pocket. They're
way too much time to let thatroute develop and then really well executed play.
Not what we're looking for from Wisconsinstandpoint. Well, Harrity out of
California graduate student modest statistics last yearthirteen catches and one touchdown, so he
(30:22):
has matched his scoring total from allof last season. Alex McNulty on to
attempt the extra point and the kickis away and they kick is a good
so a very productive time out.Taking a couple of minutes ago by the
Bulls. The Ford scoring drive fiveplays, sixty five yards took two minutes
(30:45):
in nine seconds. Five h sevenleft of this opening quarter and it's Wisconsin
seven, Buffalo seven. We'll takea breakback in a moment. This is
badge of football from lear Field. The thirteen hundred slot machines in the ninety
five percent average payout. Ho ChunkGaming Madison is your hometown big win.
Make your next night out of winningone at Hochhunk Gaming Madison. Before we
(31:07):
move on, lets pass ten secondsfor station identification ten for an ID,
which is a badger of football fromlear Field. Badgers and Bulls are tied
at seven five. Those seven leftto the first quoter, Cole Snyder four
or four through the air or thebig throw a fifty one yard connection of
Daryl Harding Junior that set up theshort touchdown pass to Cole parody, Let's
check in a game with Patrick cantalk a little bit about the Badger's new
(31:30):
defensive coordinator, because this is gameone. Everybody's trying to figure out their
in game routines. The Mott gamethey did a week ago can't cover everything.
Seven kind of monitoring might Trustle thedefensive coordinator, who's obviously new to
this staff, and how he handledthat defensive breakdown allowing that touchdown. He
spent almost all his time talking withhis safeties and then his middle linebackers,
very calm and poised in his demeanor, but really it seemed like he was
(31:55):
talking about communication between them and makingsure that everybody's on the same page,
because clear he saw a couple ofdays of his mic linebackers that he thinks
needs correcting. Buffalo able to capitalizethat fifty one yard browt all harding that
was on a third and four, and that's what set up Buffalo couple of
plays later to get that seven yardtouchdown. Toss from cold Snyder to Herity
(32:19):
and the kick from McNulty is deepand again no return is It sails well
beyond the back of the end zone, well over the head of him.
Ray Dk a touchback and wisconstable startat its thirty five yard line. Yeah,
and you know, Patrick just mentionedit, and that's always one of
you know, we talked a littlebit earlier about turnovers and tackling communication and
everything is faster practice. You canpractice as fast as you want. When
(32:42):
you're out here, you have eightythousand people and you're trying to make sure
everybody's lining up the right way anddoing it. And you're new, so
you've seen a few of those issuesalready pop up, and you want to
make sure you get them corrected sothat don't happen again. Skathered Bell in
the lineup. Now slot to theleft, him ray DK wide to the
left, CJ. Williams wide tothe right, and now Bell loops in
(33:04):
motion left to right for the Badger'stwenty five yard line. Mordecai sweeze the
right side, Bell catches across It'sone it gets to block from Rucci's twenty
five. Bell bangs his way upacross the thirty and fights his way to
the thirty one. Marcus Fuquall isover there defensively the safety along with the
defensive end Max Michelle Gain of sixlove that job by Rucie, a big
tight end getting out in space, giving a little bit of room. That's
not an easy block. Kept hisfeet running allowed him to pick up a
(33:28):
quick six s tray wedding in theoffensive line. Now for the Badger's playing
right guard, three receivers left oneof the rights. Second down in four
handoff, Braylan Ellen breaks a tacklebehind the line of scrimmage and is able
to bear crawl. I put acrossthe thirty five up to the thirty seven
yard line. That's good work becausehe got hit behind the line of scrimmage.
Big man not having it. Firstdown Wisconsin batgress thirty seven pulled,
Jack Nelson, pulled Joe Hubert leftguard, left tackle, and Buffalo just
(33:52):
crashed off the edge. Braylan didin a fantastic job there of avoiding that,
making himself skinning and picking up thatfirst down. Ky left, Roucie
slot left CJ. Williams transfer fromusc Ye to the right. Skyler Bell
lines up to the left of thequarterback Tanner Mordecai, and now Bell motions
out to the left. Mordecai takesa little shovel pass. Brailan Allen left
the hashbarks outside the right hashbarks nowand a gain of a couple to the
(34:15):
thirty eight, maybe the thirty nineyard line. Just a lot of congestion
there on that shovel pass attempt atAllen they'll market to thirty nine on a
gain of two. Yeah, thatjust didn't It wasn't real even keeled flow
there. That was more a littlejumble. That's another timing issue that didn't
quite work. You're trying to utilizeBuffalo's getting up the field, just sneaking
(34:37):
around on the other side of it. Not timed up well. From the
thirty nine of Wisconsin's second down, eight yards to go, Mordicai gets the
staffs wings and left caught by Allenleft side across the forty Brailan across the
forty five and up near the fortyseven yard line, Clovester Hines the cornerback
up to make the head looks likemaybe just shy of the line to gain
bell mark just beyond the forty sixthey need the forty seve eleven yard line.
(35:00):
Three twelve and counting left to thefirst quarter. We're tied at seventh.
That was all to adder. Mordechaijust acknowledging what Buffalo was trying to
do. They brought a blitz offa boundary side of the field. He
saw it, dumped it up,picked it up, bird down about a
half yard to go. Hayden Rouciestarts in motion to the left. Here's
a hand up Brilin how that hegets chopped down behind the line of scrimmage
at the forty three yard line.Red Murdoch, a linebacker, came in
(35:24):
there, Scott three as the Badgersmiss on third and shorts and are forced
to punt. Yeah, the lastthing you can have happened, especially on
a short yards betting, is anytype of penetration. And the linebacker just
came in untouched. That's where youhave to know upfront where your gaps are.
(35:45):
And that was just the case wherenobody picked him up, came in,
got out his ankles, and Buffalois now forcing a punt from the
forty three of Wisconsin. Atticus bertramson the punt and the left footed freshman
sends it on its way. RonCook waving off traffic. It hits inside
the's twenty a Badger role and itgoes out of bounds of the far side
line near the fifteen yard line inBuffalo territory. That was a forty one
(36:08):
yard punk. We'll keep it here. Two minutes, ten seconds left to
the first quarter. Wisconsin's seven,Buffalo seven. Yeah, I think,
you know, we saw a littlebit of it, the lack of communication.
And in that case third and one, you would think line up the
old days, line up quarterback sneakor you do a fullback dive. And
now that's one of the things. And I can remember when you know we
(36:30):
would play teams that were more spreadthem out. That's a concern when you
decide to do more spread and you'rethrowing some of the stuff that you're doing,
how are you going to handle shortyardage? Wisconsin did not handle it
well on that drive. Buffalo maybegaining a bit of confidence here, Ron
Cook hit it running back. Threereceivers left, one on the right,
bulls at their fifteen yard line.Schnyder gets the shotgun staff the receiver screen
(36:52):
left side, caught by Johnson acrossthe fifteen across the twenty Marlin Johnson up
near the twenty five yard line ofthe near side. Jason Maitrie, the
slot corner, gets over there withhelp very close to a first down.
We'll call it nine just beyond thetwenty four yard line, second down less
than the yard for the Bulls.Four receivers, two either side. It's
(37:15):
a look over from Cole Snyder CameronBall motions to the formation and a hand
off into the line of the firstdown across the twenty five ron Cook to
the twenty nine yard line of Buffalo, and that'll be a first down for
the Bulls with ninety seconds left inthe opening quarter. I continues to run
(37:35):
on first downs in college football nowexcept for the final two minutes of each
half. At a piece of playfaint and want to correct this year.
Try to shorten the time. Agame of pit three receivers right and one
on the left, snap to Snyder, swings it right side, pulled down
by Cook right side across twenty fiveslips tackle thirty and he gets hammered down
at the thirty two yard line.Made a man miss and then really got
(37:59):
drill three hard yards on the gamefor run Cook out of the backfield.
Yeah, and that's one of thethings we talked about miss tackles. But
what I love there was a mistackle. But then there are also three more
Badgers coming. You see that gangtackling approach right by the hunter. Woller
Jeff Petrosky of the lineup defensively nowone of the outside linebackers from the thirty
(38:21):
two of Buffalo. Second down andseven, when we curry out wide to
the right. Lake clock is atten game clock, thirty four seconds and
counting left to the opening quarter snapperSnyder. He'll hand it to Cook up
the middle across the thirty five andcook up near the forty yard line.
Should be a first down. Thelinebacker Jake Cheney is there. It's down
for Buffalo. It's twenty seconds leftto the first quarter. A lot of
(38:45):
room there to run. Buffalo dida really nice job of taking care of
Wisconsin's down lineman moving some people pickedup a big chump bay Mark at the
thirty nine of Buffalo un of fiveseconds left in the first quarter. We'll
see if they run a play.Cameron Ball wing left, motions to the
right and Buffalo willing to let theclock run outs here at the end of
(39:07):
the first quarters of the bowls outof the Mid American Conference, one in
twelve all time against the Big Ten. One win coming five years ago against
Rutgers. They have Wisconsin with astalemate through the first quarter of play.
W e A member benefits. We'dlike to thank all public school educators for
their dedication of our communities. WEA member benefits enhancing the financial lives of
(39:28):
Wisconsin public school employees. At theend of one at Camp Randle, Wisconsin
seven, Buffalo seven, this isBadger football from lear Few. It's not
for a scoreboard run from Camp RandalStadium. Let's start in the Big ten.
Number two. Michigan bats Carolina thirtyto three. JJ McCarthy two hundred
and eighty yards, three touchdowns.Fresno State over per Due in West sloppyt
(39:52):
thirty nine, thirty five IWA beatUtah State Kade McNamara, the first year
quarterback there, one hundred ninety oneyards in a couple of touchdowns. Michigan
State one last night, thirty oneto seven over Central Michigan. Minnesota one
thirteen ten over Nebraska on thirty theBuckeyes lead in Indiana seven nothing, third
ranked Ohio State seven nothing, fortyseconds left in the first quarter. And
(40:15):
in the top twenty five Colorado beatTCU forty five forty two shoulder Sanders Prime
Son five hundred and ten yards, four touchdowns. Look at that, Coach
Prime. What do you got onthat towas Coach Prime? You know?
But it's always fun with big personalities, and I think for all of us
that love college football, I thinkthat's gonna be a great thank color and
(40:37):
whether it's Colorado or whatever. ButPrime being in there and going in to
TCU and finding a way to winpretty dog gone impressive. It's called by
many the great experiment because they havewhat night or ten returning scholarship players from
last year. I mean they werethey were really bad. The record was
that they've been struggling for quite awhile. We old boy, you know
(41:00):
what to talk college football is goingto be what happened today Coach Prime and
the guys winning at TCU. Ateam that played for the national title,
although not a competitive game, butthey got to the national title game.
It was a heck of a yearfor the horn Frog seven seven yere at
Camp Randall, Wisconsin and Buffalo. As we begin the second quarter, the
(41:22):
Bulls with a fresh set of downsat their thirty nine yard line. Bull
Snyder's six of six through the airseventy two yards at a touchdown and the
first quarter of play. Yeah, way too comfortable right now. If you're
Buffalo, things are looking too easy. We gotta get harassed these boys a
little bit. Bulls going left toright, north to south. There was
played for scrimmage in the second quarter. Two receivers tight to the left.
(41:45):
We recurry tight to the right,Cameron Ball the tight end wing of the
right side, snap back to ColeSnyder. Three man rush right snide pass.
Ball catches across the forty five yardline and racing over there was the
linebacker Jake Cheney. They'll mark atthe forty six Buffalo on a gain of
seven second down and three for theBulls. Rhythm continues for Cole Snyder in
(42:09):
this Buffalo offense. Two receivers left, one on the rights. Snyder with
a look over direct snap into theline to Cook works off the left side
across the fifty yard line of theforty nine of Wisconsin. That was Snyder
looking over, trying to catch Wisconsin'sdefense napping. The snap went to the
running back Ron Cook and who getthe first down at the Wisconsin forty nine
(42:30):
and Wisconsin didn't even take the cheese. Jake j Chaney was right in the
back of just missed the tackle. Two receivers left, one on the right.
First down, snap Snyder back tothrow four man rush. Here comes
Jordan Turner. Snyder throws right side, that's caught by ball. Jeff Petrosky
is there, the former Michigan statespartan with the immediate hit on ball at
the forty seven of Wisconsin on thegain of two. Second down and eight.
(42:51):
A little bit of pressure. They'reforcing the hand. That was much
better from Wisconsin. Petrovsky and DarylPeterson as the outside linebackers. James Thompson,
Rhodos Johnson the d lineman. Tworeceivers left, one on the right
like Washington back in at running back. Second down at eight, Buffalo at
the Wisconsin forty seven yard line likethe villain slot to the left, Marlin
(43:13):
Johnson wide left will be Curry isout to the rights three, someone they
are very high on in this Buffaloprograms snapped the Snyder, looking under pressure
from Petrosky, throws it up,then away sails well over the head of
Washington Waller on the coverage as theBadgers were heating up the Buffalo quarterback.
It's third and eighth. Yeah, football is not a complicated game. You
give people time and space, they'reable to execute. Wisconsin. We've starting
(43:37):
to see whether it's from bringing morepeople or people hitting in the back.
But you need to be around thequarterback. You can't give clean pockets.
And you happened at this point.Third down at eight, Buffalo at the
Wisconsin forty seven yard line. Threereceivers left, Curry out to the right,
snapped the Snyder, hands off Washingtoninside the forty five. Washington drives
down to the forty yard line.Colmoie watt to ringing it on the running
(44:00):
back a yard short of the firstdown. How daring do you feel,
Maurice Linguists, the head coach ofthe Bulls. The offense days out there.
Fourth and one, Buffalo at theforty of Wisconsin. They bunch up.
Here's this nig Snyder, big pileof humanity. I don't think so.
They needed the thirty nine and Ithink he is going to be short
(44:22):
by a full yard. Let's checkthe spot. Buffalo trying to sell it
as you always do, but they'vegot it marked at the forty. It's
just going the other way. Badgersget the fourth down stop. Get credit
for trying well, the aggressive, aggressive play clear around the forty going in,
(44:44):
But what teams forget? You seethis and what happens. Everybody copies
everybody, and the Philadelphia Eagles havedone this with Jalen Hurts, and they
just pile people in and they piledrive. Well, not everybody has a
quarterback. They can squat five trucks, and obviously Buffalo does not in the
case. And it's not as easyas just doing It's one thing to draw
it up and to do it,it's another thing to actually go out and
(45:05):
executed. Wisconsin, great, greatjob bowing up and getting off the field.
Thirteen o nine left and a half. We're tied at seven Badgers at
their forty yard line. Three receiversleft, one on the right. Mordecai
out of the shotgun, takes thestamp, looks the throw, steps up,
fires deep down the middle. SkylerBell draw half the twenty yard line.
It would have been six oo.Next play, young man, next
(45:32):
play. Yeah, you have tomove on. That was really well executed.
Just a simple post route by Belland good protection and Mordecai put it
right out of those are ones youjust have to move on because you put
it right right right where you neededto dropped it. Let's move on.
Skyler is lining up slot to theleft. CJ. Williams wide left,
(45:52):
second and ten handoff Chez, butLucy up the middle, moving the stack,
still churning those legs up across theforty five forty six yard line.
Dude, it's strong run from ChezMelucy. Third down and four for the
Badgers. Yeah, you have tolove what you're seeing from Lucy so far.
He is not only elusive, he'srunning really hard to keeping his pads
(46:13):
down. Four receivers to either side. Snap back the Mordechai Tanner looking scans
of defense. Buy here's right sideintercepted at the party down the sideline.
Thirty out of the twenty cutting insideturf, Mounster got him near the fifteen
yard line, right into the handsof Devin Grant, the safety and Buffalo,
(46:36):
which last year at a plus eightin the turnover department a plus one
here today as now a big opportunityfor the Bulls at the sixteen of Wisconsin.
Yeah, what you always want whenyou're a defense is to have the
quarterback path of football move around, get to a second third read and Buffalo
did a nice job of covering andjumping the route. Mordechai went late,
(46:59):
didn't make get good throw, butI'll give him credit. He continued to
scrap hit down the field. Andyou always wonder you make a bad player,
you're gonna pout and mope. AndMordecai got back, took an angle.
Not gonna say he made some worldclass tackle, but what he did
do is make the Buffalo defender makea second move. He slipped and these
are those moments when you can savepoints. Hopefully that can end up shifting
(47:22):
a football game. Thirty four yardson the interception return first in ten Buffalo
at the Wisconsin's sixteen yard line. The receivers cut out to the rights and
tight to the lefts. Mike Washingtonis the running back, Jake Orlando the
tied end motions to the formation. Here's the handle off to Washington met right
(47:42):
away by the linebacker Daryl Peterson.Slittle if any on the play for Washington.
Second out in ten for the Bowlsat the Wisconsin's sixteen yard line.
Yeah, this is another test forthis defense. A sudden change. How
are you going to react after somethingbad? Happened. Nice job there by
Peterson of staying home reading react goingdown the line, bringing them down with
Lil Harding Junior out wide to theleft, tight coverage from Alexanders Smith.
(48:06):
Three receivers to the right, andthey're sixteen of Wisconsin. Second out in
ten for Buffalo. Snyder gets thesnap, Badgers bringing for Snyder throws bat
it down and that's in kimplea gettingthere defensively for Wisconsin. That was big
Ben Button getting the mid up thereand it's third and ten Buffalo at the
Wisconsin's sixteen. Yeah, Buffalo istrying to set up a little screen.
(48:27):
You see Wisconsin being a little moreaggressive trying to get to the quarterback,
so they dial up a screen. And when you're a defensive lineman and you're
not going to get there on thestreet, get those big mids of actually
set it up pretty nicely, buttipping the ball, getting it down,
getting them down to third and tenwith three safety package out there. Hunter
Woller creeping up near the line ofscrimmage. Three receivers right, one on
the left, third and ten Buffaloat the Wisconsin sixteen yard line. Mike
(48:50):
Washington in the running back to theleft of the quarterback Cole Snyder. Whaite
clock is at six. Snyder waitsfor the snap, White clock at two.
Here's the snap, BA just bringingfor Snyder looks, throws deep right
side. Zoe Johnson got it overthe shoulder, touchdown Buffalo right corner of
the end zone, and they sayincomplete. They say check it. Oh,
(49:12):
I thought he had it. Ithink Buffalo really thinks it had it.
They say incomplete. Jason maitri onthe coverage, Maurice, I don't
know what they're saying. It wasan incomplete pass. So you're gonna look
(49:34):
at the replay, boy, Idon't know. Maybe it just grazed the
turf before he gathered it. Imean it was kind of bobbled around off
the leg, off the arm. That's one is you would think gonna get
reviewed here. I think they're gonnatake a time out to give him time
(49:57):
to kind of coerce him inter reviewingit. Great throw really where only his
guy could make a play. AndI think we're gonna take a look at
So the ruling out of the fieldwas incomplete even five left of the first
half, tied at seven. Asthey are good, go upstairs. And
(50:24):
check this out. It was aheck of an effort by Marlon Johnson trying
to cradle it first with the righthand, then the arm, then the
leg. The question is moved upto he had the arm underneath the ball
or did the ground maybe help himmake the catch? The ground helped him,
and I think you can allow theground to help. But I think
(50:46):
it moved. It's flopping around thereand I think it moved right there.
I think we're gonna have any complete, very lucky break. It would say
a heck of an effort one armto try and make that. Here it
is, it should be in thefurther review. Rolling on the field is
confirmed incomplete. Buffalo all thinks it'sa touchdown. I don't know if they
(51:09):
haven't gotten the news yet. Yeah, they got They all got their arms
in the air. Maybe the music'stoo loud. They didn't hear, they
didn't hear the referee. But Igo back to Mordecai makes a bad thro
and an interception, and those momentsin games when they kind of turn one
way or the other could have beenan easy pick six walk in all the
(51:30):
celebrating and now Wisconsin is gonna holdBuffalo to a field goal attempt. Those
are those moments in games. Bookmarkthat to make sure we see where we're
at when it gets later in thisfootball game. Well, they have an
outstanding kicker and this is a relativelyshort one coming up for Alex McNulty,
who was twenty four of twenty eighta year ago, mentioned the Mid American
(51:54):
Conference Special Teams Player of the yeardoing the little reverse jinks here. I
like that. Oh yeah, maybethe best kicker in the history of the
Buffalo program. Clearly, we'll bedrafted high in the NFL and keep going,
keep going. Thirty four yard tryfor McNulty from the left hash mark
early in the second Polder tide atseven, the lines are down, there's
(52:19):
a stamp, spot kick is away, A kick is no gun. You're
welcome, Well done, Matt,You're welcome badgination. Well you talk about
both pro both teams. Now,with the chance to recover from something bad
Badgers thought they had a touchdown todrop past. Buffalo thought it had a
(52:43):
touchdown and with a terrific kicker, missed a relatively easy field goal. But
that will take a break. Elevenforty two left and a half Wisconsin and
Buffalo tide at seven. This isa Badger football from lear Field because at
W Badgers dot Com Back's Last Contestnitor for your chance to be the Culver's
VI I P Family of the UWfootball game this season. Families will be
selected with the chance to compete forcash on the field at halftime. That's
(53:04):
UW Badgers dot Com Backslash Contest.Still tied at seven, Wisconsin at Buffalo
Badgers taken over at their twenty yardline, eleven forty two left in the
first half. Yeah, you mightthink I'm crazy, but that last sequence,
I really think that that's good movingforward with this team, because you
want everybody is gonna have adversity.Skyler Bell makes a drop. It leads
(53:27):
to a pick that could have beenat pick six. Mordecai makes it,
and the defense comes out bows up, makes makes enough plays and they come
out of here with zero. Nowit's the offenses turn to clean this up
and reset the tone, and they'vegot Raylan Allen in the backfield will Pauling
Schlot to the left. Mordecai takeshandoff Allen over the right side across the
twenty yard line up at the twentythree or twenty four Damon Williams defensive tackle
(53:51):
getting there, Yeah, your pointsoutslup Fickle has talked about that multiple times.
It's not his first rodeo. Hewants to see how his team handles
it when things start to go sidewaysand the defense rolls up off that sudden
change. From the twenty three ofWisconsin's second out of seven, Mordecai throwing
right side, caught across the twentyfive yard line and up to the twenty
seven goes Bryson Green, the formerOklahoma State Cowboy, spill him three yards
(54:16):
short of the line to gain thirddown for the Badgers. And one of
the things I'm noticing, I knowit's third and third and three. The
defensive ends are not respecting Mordecai's abilityto run outside. Be on the lookout.
I'm gonna romo this. I thinkwe're gonna see one of those.
There you go three receivers left, one on the right for the twenty seven
of Wisconsin third down and three Mordecaitakes looks to throw, looking throwing a
(54:39):
dart left side, caught by Paulingacross the thirty five yard line. Will
Pauling up across the forty yard linefor Wisconsin, all those slot receivers.
The offensive coordinator Phil Longo telling themedia a few weeks ago, outside of
his family, nothing more. Heloves it a good slot receiver and he
has one and Will Pauling to besure. I'm not sure about Phil Longo
(55:02):
falling in love with slow receivers, but whatever works. So on first down,
Mordecai a dark over the middle manthat's caught Bryson Green, big fella
across the fifty Marcus SPOOKWAF brings himdown at the forty nine of Buffalo.
First down, Wisconsin. Tempo isup for the Badgers. Two receivers right
Jim Ray DK to the left,Mordecai quick shot left side, DK trying
(55:24):
to go down and get it,but the past may have been deflected a
bit and falls short of DK.Second and ten after the incomplete pass.
Yeah, and this is what we'reexpecting. This up tempo, fast,
and the best way to actually dothat is by picking up first downs and
getting the ball, getting in rhythm. And I think this is the first
time we're seeing a little bit ofthat rhythm outside of the touchdown drive.
Tucker ash Craft the freshman one ofthree receivers of the rights, snap back
(55:46):
to Mordecai one pump Tanda looking swingsthe right side, caught by Braylon Allen
across the fifty yard line. Alleninside the forty five and down to about
the forty four yard line. Jalenmcnie are the nickel over there defensively gain
of five, third down in fivefor Wisconsin. Yeah, that's something we're
gonna see a lot more of.You know, Braylon Allen is known physical,
(56:08):
big, strong running bat. Youyou want to not only for him,
but with this offense. You wantto get that ball out to the
receivers. Let them make some playsout of the passing game, not just
running it. Four catches in thisfirst half for Braylon Allen. Third down
and five from the Buffalo forty fouryard line. Three receivers leapt one on
the ride. Mordecai back to throwlooking looking plenty of time. Now he'll
(56:30):
pull it down there he ghost houseinside the forty and they're gonna mark him
back at the forty two there andwhere he they claim he started with a
slide. It's where you started.I'm still not real st a spot that
wasn't a generous spot at any stretch, but they are. You were in
a position here, i'd be surprisedlooking at a fourth, fourth and what
(56:52):
three from the forty three, it'syeah, let's see what they're gon.
We're gonna send on the punt team. I don't think anybody's happy about it,
apparently. Oh how quickly they turn. Yeah, they you know,
the quarterback when you get out ofthe pocket and run, they obviously want
to protect him. And they're veryliberal with the slide rule, and I
(57:13):
thought they gave him maybe a yardor two short. Well, the forty
two of Buffalo Atticus Bertram's beyond twopunts, it's a lay of game number
forty nine, kicking team, fiveyard penalty, fourth, give a little
more space. It'll be at theforty seven of Buffalo. Bertram's comes from
(57:39):
what's called Pro Kick Australia. It'sbeen a pretty good pipeline for Luke Fickle
and his coaching career. You seea lot of punters in this league and
others at college football for that partof the world. Bertram's it's the snap
kick is away. Ron Cooks signalsfor the fair catch and he'll make it
at the twelve yard line of Buffaloes, and this standoff continues after a thirty
(58:01):
five yard punt from the freshman AtticusBertram's we'll step away. Eight twenty two
left in the half. Wisconsin's seven, Buffalo seven. This is badger of
football from lear Field, but yougive them a ton of credit too,
and they're out here, they're competingin Wisconsin's just a little bit off,
yep. I think you expect.I think everybody hopes that everything is just
(58:22):
gonna run smooth. Well, alot of change, a lot of different
things. That's just not the waythis game is going. So now,
great news is you get to testyour resolve, you get to see where
you're at. And Buffalo has movedthe football. You would love to see
this defense kind of bough up,either create a turnover or start being more
aggressive putting pressure on this Buffalo teambecause they've had a little too comfortable for
(58:46):
my liking here in the first half. Well, the who faces in this
Badger's program and he's out there rightnow, Nisier four Cuine transfer from Division
two Grand Valley's State. He'll workthe corner opposite of Ricardo Halman right now,
from the eleven yard line of theBulls. First down and ten to
recurry typed to the right. Tworeceivers typed to the left, Ron Cooke
(59:07):
the running back as cool Snyder fakesthe hand off and he'll use his feed
working off the left edge across thefifteen up near the sixteen yard line on
a gain of five. Yeah, nice read there by Snyder, just seeing
what Wisconsin was doing, pulled it, made a little bit of a juke
and picked up five. Second downfrom the sixteen yard line of Buffalo.
(59:30):
Second down, five yards to go. Four receivers, two on the right,
two on the left, Ron Cookethe running back. We'll shift to
the right, both Cool Snyder.Snyder takes the snap quick shot left side,
and that is caught Zion quarter forthe first down across the twenty yard
line and up to the twenty threeon the far side. First down Buffalo.
(59:52):
Snyder has been very efficient. Heis nine of twelve or eighty one
yards and a touchdown. Bulls comeout trips to the lefts Michael Woods wide
to the left a first down onepump. Snyder looking pressured, he'll throw
it away in complete sales over McMillanat the twenty five of the far side.
(01:00:14):
Riccardo Holme and other coverage ship.Really nice job there by Wisconsin of
recognizing what Buffalo is trying to do. Just they're trying to throw a quick
little bubble screen out and Wisconsin's defensivebacks got in, took away all the
space and forcing a throwaway the twentythree of Buffalo second down and ten seven
(01:00:34):
twenty four left and a half. The Bulls and the Badgers tied at seven
snap. The Snyder receiver screen rightside, Woods catches across the twenty angles
right twenty five yard line and he'spounded down by Darryl Peterson outside linebacker at
the twenty seven yard line. Buffaloterritory gain of four, third down and
six. That really good job thereby Peterson of just running to the football
(01:00:55):
the same thing. They just flippedit and did it to the other side
through it. Nice job actually blockingup on Wisconsin's corner, but Peterson did
a nice job of chasing to thefootball got him down well. Although one
out of four on third down, three receivers left two on the ride empty
backfield, Bulls at their twenty sevenyard lyne third down six yards to go,
(01:01:15):
Snyder gets their stand. Badgers sendingfor Snyder backpedaling, rolling right,
throwing it up bit away incomplete asthe Badger's defense again digs in. Yeah,
that's what you're looking for, andyou need to get Buffalo uncomfortable.
And the way to do that gethim in third and five plus area had
a third and six. Just alittle bit of pressure, good coverage on
(01:01:36):
the back end by Wisconsin, andnow you force a punt trying to get
the ball back at some points herebefore the end of the half, Anthony
Vanieri on the punch him Ray Dekdeep at the thirty one of Wisconsin six
forty left on the first half tideat seven. Let's see if him Ray
can get a chance to do alittle something here in the punt return game
snap, the Veneria steps up andthe kick is away, hit it well,
(01:01:57):
Deka drifting back, drifting back,He'll catch back at the seventeen yard
line, him across the twenty leftside and roll to the turf at its
twenty five yard line, and that'swhere the Badgers will begin fifty four on
the punts, eights on the return. I'll have another break in the action
here in Madison, everyday style iseasy with favorite looks for family, fund
(01:02:20):
and saving a ton, whether you'resavoring the last moments of summer or gearing
up for school and all things fullwe've got covered shop coals and coals dot
Com today. Six twenty nine leftin the half, Wisconsin's seven Buffalo seven
back in one minute. This isBadger of football from later few, six
minutes, twenty nine seconds left tothe first half, Camp Randall Stadium and
(01:02:44):
Madison, Wisconsin's seven Buffalo seven Badgerstrying to get back into some rhythm offensively,
starting at their twenty four yard line. Yeah, you're seeing some things
that you like. Obviously you wantto see more of it, but you
know, you a few plays hereand there leave we can look back offensively
and look at the Skylar Bell playover the middle, which was drawn up
(01:03:06):
beautifully and you put it right whereyou needed to. And now again,
I think the battle lines you're havingis you're having a lot of success running
the football. Buffalo is going toyou have kind of your philosophy on what
you're doing, and if you havean extra guy in the box, you're
gonna throw the football. So whatI would expect here, and we saw
a little bit of it. IsBuffalo is crashing their defensive ends. They're
(01:03:27):
coming really hard down to try andstop that run, and they're gonna say,
Tanner, let's see it. Canyou run? Can you be that
extra weapon that you aren't going tobe able to account for? And I
think if you could start doing that, things will start freeing up a little
bit. So we'll be I'll becurious to see if that's the approach for
Longo takes. One of the thingswatching him talking about Mordecai, he moves
(01:03:49):
a little bit better than what Ithought. I just you get so caught
up in the touchdown passers, ofwhich he had seventy two the last two
years at SMU. Yeah. Imean, I think quarterbacks they don't want
to necessarily, I know they don't. They like throwing touchdowns. They're not
interested in running and picking up fouror five hard yards. But I think
sometimes what's what's called for is youhave to kind of take away, take
(01:04:13):
what the defense has given you.And so far we've seen some of it,
just not consistently enough. So herewe go, Mordecai and company ready
to get back at a chess Malucyuse the running back. We'll pauling Schlot
left, he'll motion to the rights. Mordecai gets the snap, he'll give
it to Malucy. Hold up themiddle of twenty five thirty thirty five chess
(01:04:34):
up across the forty yard line,up to the forty three big hole,
running north south chess. Molucy afirst down run to the forty three yard
line of Wisconsin and a really nicejob there by the interior of Wisconsin's offensive
line of just getting good push andMelucy shot through it first and ten.
Mordecai, we'll give it to Melucyoff the right side and not much there
(01:04:58):
this time, nothing there at theforty three yard line. Second out in
ten for the Badgers with five fiftyfive left in the first half. Yeah,
this is an adjustment for these oldalignment too, because you're used to
run in and get a nice teneleven yard chunk run like you did.
Go back, catch your breath, get back in the home, get up
there, get it back on theline of scrimmage, and let's run another
(01:05:19):
play. Taylor Bordelin saying, Iknow we're gonna get tired. The goal
is to get the other guys moretired will pauling slot left, loops in
motion to the right as Mordecai looksthe throw, and he'll swim the outside
penalty marker down to the backfield andthe past complete the paulling. He got
hit right away and taken down atthe forty five yard line. But the
(01:05:39):
penalty in the area of holding. It's been a really clean game. I
don't know if we had a penaltymaybe one before this. They're gonna get
a hold on the left tackle here. I'll get the call from Cole Knipple,
holding offense number seventy nine, tenyard penalty from the previous spot second
(01:06:00):
Noll. I mean, you knowmy thoughts on this stuff, and usually
when guys go to the ground thatwas I always look at and I try
to be objective. I'm not,but I try to be where if you
don't get your feet beat. JackNelson's feet didn't get beat there. He
lunged, laid at the court.I get it. I understand what the
ref saw, but when I givethat shriek, I don't. I don't
(01:06:24):
agree with it obvious, like youtry to be seg it down at twenty
Badgers around thirty three yard line.Mordecai looking throws right side that's caught by
Will Pauling makes a man miss atthe thirty five, shakes his way up
to the thirty nine yard line.Jaylen McNair, the nickel is there and
he's a little shaken up. IsMcNair the junior out of Durham, North
Carolina, and he's gonna need someattention. That'll stop the clock. With
(01:06:45):
four fifty five left and a halftied at seven, it was a game
of six, so it's still thirddown at fourteen for Wisconsin. Well,
he can see why everybody's excited aboutPauling. That was a case where,
you know, just a simple throw, but really nice footwork a little and
got I picked up another four orfive. That was a one or two
(01:07:08):
yard play. Will Pauling picked upanother two or three. I'm all in
on the sound effects, by theway. That's good. Well, they'll
be here. Good. I'm gladyou're all in on them, because they're
not going anywhere either way. Televisionhas gone into a break. We'll keep
it here. We have used ourallotted commercial breaks. Next week the Badgers
(01:07:29):
hit the road. Then you goout to Pullman Washington to take on Washington
State. The game will kick atsix thirty Central time. Washington State and
Oregon State two programs looking for ahome. As the PAC twelve will as
of now be the Pack two nextyear, that'd be a lot easier to
(01:07:51):
win the conference. You would thinkit's a pack two, it's no worse
than second. I wonder if youwhat do you end up doing? Just
play Oregon State ten eleven times, kind of see how it plays out.
How about this and then we talkabout the Big ten going to you know,
USC, UCLA, Washington and Oregon, the ACC joining the party there,
(01:08:12):
Kyle Stanford and SMU. Yeah, there's obviously there's it's all about money,
but there's I think someone needs totake hold separate football and get everything
back to me. And I thinkif you could pull that off, I
think, I don't want to sayrelatively easily, but we know football drives
the bus and I think it's aI think there's some things that can be
(01:08:35):
worked out, hopefully in the nextcouple of years, as huge shifts are
going to be happening as they continue. Because you have two teams left out
in the dust. You got youknow, do you want your swim team
and crew team flying out on aWednesday to UCLA. I would think you
wouldn't. So I would hope coolerheads and smarter people than I am can
(01:08:56):
figure out how can we just separatefootball, turn this in, have all
this stuff, make all this money, and then make everything else back to
normal. I think there's a wayto do it makes perfect sense. And
I feel for programs like Washington Stateand Oregon State, they have very loyal
fan bases. You know, Iknow that the programs haven't one at the
clip that they had that they haveone at in the past, but even
(01:09:19):
a member out there for years andyears and now the future is very uncertain.
That Jake Dickert, the head coachof Washington State, a Wisconsin native
whose they came in here and beatthe Badgers last September. But it's gonna
be a little bit edgy out there. That is not gonna be That is
(01:09:39):
not for anyone that thinks, andI don't think many I know nobody around
here feels that way. But froma fans now, anybody thinks that's gonna
be some type of easy victory,We're gonna be mistaken and nothing easy today.
So far for the Badgers four fiftyfive left to the half seven seven.
Jaylen McNair escorted over to the sidelines. He was the defensive back.
(01:10:01):
Shaken up, will Pauling, SkylerBell and shim Ray dk out to the
left to the thirty nine of Wisconsin. Third down fourteen, Mordecai takes back
to throw for a man rush.Tanner under pressure throws low pass incomplete,
off balance throw a one hopper toSkyler Bell and Wisconsin forced to punts on
(01:10:25):
fourth and fourteen at their own thirtynine yard line. Yeah, that was
interesting. Buffalo decided to bring bringa little bit of pressure to make sure
that the ball had to come outof Mordecai's hands. The Skyler boat was
open, but he had sped upand that allowed that forced an earlier throw
than what Mordecai wanted to do.And now we're punting. Addicus Bertram's on
the punt. Ron Cook is deep. Bertram's a little rugby roll to the
(01:10:49):
left, kick is away. Cooksignals for the fair catch. She'll gather
at the thirteen yard line of Buffalo. It was a forty seven yard punt
from Atticus Trump's four minutes forty twoseconds left in the first half. It
remains Wisconsin's seven, Buffalo's seven totalyards. Wisconsin one seventy two, Buffalo
(01:11:11):
one thirty two. Cole Snyder hasbeen impressive ten to fifteen through the year
for ninety two yards of a touchdown. Yeah, and again, I keep
coming back to this because it's thereality of where we're at right now in
a seven seven game with four minutesand forty two seconds left, and that
is Buffalo has been able to beway too comfortable with everything that they're doing
in Wisconsin has spent them up.They've gotten them off the field from the
(01:11:34):
thirteen yard line of Buffalo. They'llspot at first and ten. S Snyder
takes hand off Washington off the leftside across the fifteen yard line. Uma
Jung Meta, one of the insidelinebackers, busting over to make the play
shy of the twenty. They willplace it at the eighteen yard line.
Game of five Buffalo with one timeout available, the Badgers have the full
(01:11:58):
allotments. Second down and five forthe Bulls. Cameron Bull wide left motions
to the formation. Washington remains therunning back the left of Cole Snyder.
It's the snamp hands off Washington acrossthe twenty. Washington gets yanked down by
Jordan Turner at the twenty two yardline, a yard shy of the stick.
Third and one for the Bulls.Wisconsin. Buffalo does not huddle,
(01:12:21):
tempo offense trips to the rights,Snyder takes the snap, gets to Washington
and he gets stone short of thefirst down. A Hunts Wooler with help
charging in there for Wisconsin and someof that help provided by Jordan Turner.
Fourth and one for the Bulls attheir twenty two yard line. Yeah,
(01:12:44):
Hunter is gonna be a really funguy to watch. They're gonna really let
him. I think they want totry and get him into as many spots
as they can let him go play, and this will be I can't imagine
they're gonna go for it here. They have the offense out there, Yeah,
to see if they get Wisconsin tojump maybe twelve on the play clock
than one Buffalo. Well, theBulls twenty two yard line. Schnyder with
a lookover penalty marker flies fall startBuffalo. They're trying to get Wisconsin a
(01:13:09):
flinch, but it was Buffalo flinching. And now it's fourth down in six
but now no choice. The Bullswill punt with three sixteen left and a
half. Yeah, that's always thequestion I have on both sides of it
with this up tempo. Is thatshort yardage and you spread things out,
you have wider splits, you dothings a little bit differently, and that
(01:13:30):
allows people to shoot gaps and someother things that we've seen in now Wisconsin's
defense. While they've given up somestuff on the short yardage getting off the
field, they've made two really niceplays getting the football back for this offense
trying to get some points here beforethe half ends. They have to nat
an area on the punt. Snapwas cleaned, pressure is on, the
kick is away, some contact made, faircatch signaled by Chim ray d K
(01:13:56):
and he will make that faircatch atthe forty five off Wisconsin thirty eight yard
punt. So a good opportunity nowfor the Wisconsin offense. Three o eight
left to the first calf. Itremains Wisconsin seven, Buffalo seven. Let's
pause ten seconds for station identification.Ten for an ID. This is Badger
football from Learfield. All right,Badgers in business at their own forty five
yard line. See J Williams wideto the right, Tucker Ashcraft out there
(01:14:20):
as well, Skyler Bell to theleft along with him, Ray dk little
de laid handoff Braylan Allen picks hisway across the forty five yard line,
covered up at about the forty eight, about a gain of three. Max
Michelle, the defensive end on thetackle. Yeah, I like that you're
trying to You have plenty of time. We're not going to be any kind
of a rush here, but youtry to let that pass for us.
(01:14:40):
Run by, do a little wraparound draw, pick up a quick three
to receivers left, two receivers right, second and seven snaploats back to Mordecai
rolling left, growing left, caughtby Bell. Good job of securing it.
He got popped right away over thereby Caleb Offord, but Skyler able
to gather at the forty eight ofBuffalo gain of fourth, third down and
three for Wisconsin two thirty left anda half. Yeah, dangerous play there,
(01:15:03):
a lot a lot of action andBuffalo did a really nice job of
collapsing down and getting him down emptybackfield. Three receivers right, two on
the left, the chasm Lucy sloton the left side for the Buffalo forty
eight yard line, third down, three yards to go, Mordecai to throw
a three man buffalo rushed Tanner lushedoff to his ride, being chased by
(01:15:23):
Dolak. Tanner applies the brake scotby Dolac, graces to the sticks it
gets there. Who what nimble footworkhas Mordecai is able to escape Sean Dolac,
the leading tackler in the Mac lastyear, and with his feet Mordecai
will get the first down, theleading tackler in the Mac. He is
not gonna want to be sitting inhis film room. He just got joked.
(01:15:45):
Great job by Mordecai, as youput it, slammed down the brakes
and then got vertical to pick upthat first down. Then at fifty and
counting left in the half, we'llat the forty five of buffalo. First
down as Mordecai looks to throw firesleft side caught by Skyler Bell and he
is brought down out of the fortyone yard line. Grants there defensively gain
a four o'clock continues to run himin at thirty five, remaining tide at
(01:16:05):
seven. Here in the second quarter, second down in six Wisconsin at the
forty one of Buffalo. Williams Ashcraftthe bell to the right, Jim Ray
DK out wide to the left, snap the Mordecai four man rush Tanner looking
throws right side, caught by Ashcraft, the freshman inside the forty breaks a
tackle. Ashcraft inside the thirty five. Oh go get him, freshman,
(01:16:28):
go get him, young man insidethe thirty down to the twenty nine yard
line. Got You love that awarenessbecause young player, just catch the ball,
don't fumble. You know, henot only put his hand down his
level when you put the hand down, don't get don't let your knee hit
and then get vertical and then hada little gronk in him not letting anybody
bring him down. Make four fiveguys come get him. Devin Grant the
(01:16:50):
safety shaking up at the Buffalo sideline. The Tucker Ashcraft, the freshman out
of Seattle, Washington. That wasimpressive ball, Oh man, that was
fun to watch. Well at thetwenty nine yard line of Buffalo. And
then at thirteen left in the half, still tied at seven. Yeah,
I just I always appreciate what youcan tell when somebody because it's really easy
(01:17:13):
and as a young player, youdon't want to make a mistake. You
want to just go out. Iwant to get my job done. I
want the coaches to continue to earntrust. But Ashcraft decider right there,
I'm gonna make the catch. Andit could have been really easy. You
just get tackled. You don't havethe first down to put that hand down.
That leaves yourself maybe a little vulnerablefor someone to come in and punch
the ball out. But he was. You could just see that go get
(01:17:33):
him and getting vertical and then notletting one guy bring you down. That's
gonna be The coaches are gonna loveto see what Ashcraft did. Right there,
guy listening to the messages Patrick Herbwas telling us in the locker room,
Luke Fickle telling his guys let itfly. And that's an example of
that. That's the young guy,Tucker Ashcraft listening. So it's first in
(01:17:55):
ten, Wisconsin at the Buffalo twentynine yard line, and then at thirteen
left in the half time at sevenC J. Williams out wide to the
right, three come out to theleft. On first down, Mordecai to
throw four man Buffalo rush Tanner looksthrows left side over the middle cup,
but Jake chim Raight DK hit sidethe fun touchdown Wisconsin. Chim Ray DK
(01:18:16):
secures the dirt from Tanner Mordicai andthe Badgers take the league. Well,
as usual, it always starts upfront, but that was a great job
by Jim to find the hole inthe zone. Sit there and as you
(01:18:36):
just put a Tanner with an absolutedart into it, allowed Chim ray to
continue on, break a tackle, get into the end zone, finally get
Wisconsin back into the league. NathanielVacos swit the extra point and the kick
is away and the kick is good. So with the exactly one minute left
(01:19:00):
of the first half, Wisconsin grabsthe lead fourteen to seven. As we
check out the scoring drive brought toyou by your local Wisconsin and up Ford
dealers, six plays fifty five yards, took two minutes in eight seconds and
Mordecai on that drive four of fourthrough the air for forty nine yards.
Yeah, Skyler Bell did a reallynice job of clearing everything out running a
(01:19:25):
vertical down the seam and then JimRay DK just kind of broke his route
in the safety went with Skyler lefta wide open space and Mordecai made the
right read, delivered it on time, and then Jim did the rest getting
it in. That was really muchneed And I think when you look back
at that drive, remember the runof Mordecai slamming the brake sign. I
(01:19:47):
was a third and four, Ithink out of the pocket, kind of
a broken down play and was ableto use his feet to pick up that
first down that sent him up togo score a tutter restive work as the
Badgers grab the lead with sixty secondsleft and in the first half, Coal
Herrety along with Ron Cook the deepmen or Buffalo as Jack Vandyke on the
(01:20:13):
run up take this away high endover end return chance if he wants it,
but he doesn't, and we'll hitjust outside of the end zone and
dribbles into the end zone. Well, the touchback is we check in again
with Patrick Hurt, big high fivefrom long ago and Mordecai. They're coming
off the field. Phil Longo isnot going to change what he's gonna do
with this offense. But even thoughthey had a little adversity earlier, he
was asked if he's gonna huddle atall today, maybe just mix it in
(01:20:36):
a little bit, and he said, well, you're gonna have to explain
what a huddle is before I cananswer that. And he said, no,
we're gonna move in Temple. We'regonna practice it faster than we're gonna
do it in the game, sowe're ready. He learned that from Mike
Leach, the late Mike Leach. He said, it's been really difficult for
him not having him as a soundingboard this season. And he's got a
tribute to Mike Leach. He puta small pirate on his arm today as
(01:20:56):
just a hat tipped to one ofhis mentors, the great offensive innovator.
I sure sure was offensive innovator anda truth character in the game. For
the twenty five yard line of Buffalo, first and ten for Cole Snyder and
company, as Mike Washington to hisleft, and now the officials step in
like clock, Let's see where wegot here. Blakeclock was one on the
(01:21:21):
offense. Five yard penalty remains firstout. If you're wondering, the Badgers
have all three of their timeouts. Now Buffalo back at its twenty yard line.
Let's see how Wisconsin plays this ifthey get Buffalo stopped here when the
(01:21:44):
first down play, little if anygame here's a handoff Washington across the twenty,
cutting right twenty five yard line,Washington across the thirty. Never mind
he would get up to the thirtyone yard line. Game of eleven,
second out and four. Yeah,I was thinking the same thing. You
get a stop getting lost yard atplay, call a time out, put
pressure on Buffalo. The Bulls getback on the ball. Four receivers,
(01:22:04):
two either side. Snyder takes asnap back to throw fires to the right
and that is caught by Jake Orlandoand he gets slammed by Kamoe lot too.
With the forty four yard light outof years side first down for the
Bulls. Clock will stop play withouta bounds at thirty with thirty six seconds
left in the half. Snyder elevenof sixteen, Mordecai is fifteen of twenty
(01:22:28):
for one hundred twenty five yards. Both have thrown touchdowns. Three receivers left,
one on the right, Bulls attheir forty four yard line first and
ten. Washington remains of running back. Snyder back to throw Badgers bringing four
pass over the middle and that's caughtby Cole Harrity, got by Lot two,
wrapped up by Hunter Waller inside theforty to the thirty nine of Wisconsin.
First down, Buffalo Bulls have onetime out left, twenty nine seconds
(01:22:51):
left in the half inside of twominutes. Clock will stop until they're ready.
As they moved the sticks and Buffalogets back on the ball. Four
Beavers two either way, and nowa time out taken by Wisconsin as Luke
Fickle and defensive coordinator Mike Trussell willwant to get their guys organized. The
Bulls not content with just burning offthe remaining minute. They're staying aggressive.
(01:23:13):
Yeah, you talked about Luke ficklestayand let it fly. Buffalo has come
in here. There's no doubt inmy mind anything win this football game.
And they're playing that way. Alot of times. You'll, you know,
come in, you get a bigjacket, you just say let's you
know, let's play. It wouldbe competitive. And this is a case
a minute left first and fifteen. You could have easily just ran it three
times, went in the locker room. Nope. And ball Snyder has done
(01:23:36):
a really nice job. He saidhe's twelve or seventeen. He he just
continues to five step drop ball comeout and he's been accurate with it.
He has played a really nice firsthalf of football. He played briefly in
the Rutgers game against Wisconsin a coupleof years ago. That was a Badger's
routes in Piscataway. Well, theBulls, you know, talking with their
(01:23:57):
people, they've taken pride. Theyhave hung in there as these Power five
programs, and they're certainly hanging inthere today. For the thirty nine of
Wisconsin, first and ten, twentyfour seconds left in the half, fourteen
to seven, Wisconsin three receivers right, Ruby Curry is out wide to the
lefts lay clock is at seven.Snyder gets the stamp, four man rush
(01:24:20):
left side pass went behind Washington incomplete. Momma Jung Meta was storming in on
the quarterback who had to get theball out of his hands. Second and
ten at the thirty nine of Wisconsinwith twenty one second swept and the half,
Yeah, moving did a really nicejob. They're getting there quick again.
I'm making him uncomfortable. He hadto deliver it faster and Washington and
running back could not turn his headaround quick enough to make that play.
(01:24:43):
Nice job by Wisconsin and Barton playingthe nose right now. James Thompson junior
with him on the defensive line forthe Badger's thirty nine yard line second down
and ten Snyder hands off the Washingtontrying to break off to the right side,
runs into the waiting arms of JakeCheney, and the linebacker takes into
the ground at the thirty five yardtime out. Buffalo their final one was
sixteen seconds left and a half. Now, Buffalo is in a little bit
(01:25:05):
of a tough spot. There areout of timeouts. It's a third and
six and you have sixteen seconds leftin the field. They're not a doubt.
They're trying to go and get inposition to let that great kicker that
Matt was talking about and totally jinxedon his last field goal to get an
opportunity here. So you have topick up a first down. You're not
going to be able to run thefootball because if you get stopped, I
(01:25:27):
don't think you can get a fastfield goal out on the field. So
your options are pretty limited here forwhat you're going to do. I wouldn't
be surprised if Buffalo just takes ashot and if it doesn't work, kick
along field goal before the end ofthe half. From where they are now,
it would be about fifty three yards. We mentioned McNulty there, kicker
Alex McNulty his career long as fiftyfive. That was two years ago.
(01:25:48):
His long last year was fifty four, so they're certainly in his range.
They'll be empty in the backfield.Three receivers come out to the left,
two one, two on the right. Sixteen seconds left and the half fourteen
to seven. Wisconsin third down andsix for Buffalo snapped the Snyder. Badgers
(01:26:11):
bringing three. Snyder who floats atright side, and that is broken up
by Lot two incomplete, almost intercepted. He was there, as was Nisier
four Kreene and his fourth down insix and on comes a field goal team
with ten seconds left in the half. Yeah, really fortunate for Snyder there
that ball wasn't picked off. Wisconsinrant basically ran. They're out two red
(01:26:34):
jerseys right in position to make thatplay. Unfortunately did it come down.
But now Buffalo gets a chance ata long kick. Before the end of
that, we would be Curry theintended receiver. It was, he was
playing a little bit at defensive backthere. Fifty three yard attempts right hash
mark and now the Badgers will calla time out. And another one of
(01:26:55):
the rule changes this season. That'sthe one and only they can call.
You cannot do the old freeze thekicker and call consecutive timeouts. I like
that, real Champ. Yep,yep, yeah, going back to the
clock, moving on first downs theidea. I mean, the biggest thing
is trying to fit the television windows, right, we all know that,
But is there radio windows or isit just now they don't care about us.
(01:27:18):
I assume that was the case, but I just wanted to make sure
that we're on the same page. We're just in our little corner of the
world. But the last year theysaid in FBS football major college football,
they were on average one hundred andseventy eight plays per game as opposed to
the NFL last year one hundred andfifty one. So they are trying there
(01:27:39):
is some players safety involved. Yeah, I think that's how they'll package that
up. And I'm sure, butI always thought that it was you could
do this, and I think it'sgoing to be a much better fan experience.
Yep, I agree. Fifty threeyard attempt right, hashbark lines are
down. Here's the snap spot McNulty'skick on the way it is good.
(01:28:01):
A rocket shot from fifty three yardsaway and it's fourteen to ten Wisconsin with
seven seconds left in the first half. Well, I'm gonna put that one
on you. You don't say anything. You just let him kick. You
don't tell us how great he is. Of course he's gonna make it one
for two. That's pretty good.If if he's kicking fifty percent today,
(01:28:24):
we'll take that absolutely. Yeah, this has been This has been a real
interesting half. I think we allcame in excited, trying to get a
good understanding of what we're doing. And you know, Patrick mentioned we're not
gonna huddle. You're not doing this. And I think the offense you have
to pick up first downs. Yousee that when Mordecai makes that play.
You just want to get a bunchof snaps because that allows you to find
(01:28:46):
your rhythm. And I thought prettykind of up and down on both sides
of the football for Wisconsin. Andthat's why you're sitting here with a fourteen
to tend game with seven seconds leftin the first half. Afalo has done
an excellent job of answering the scorewith the score match touchdowns in the first
quarter, and at least got three. After the Mordecai touchdown strike to him
(01:29:12):
Ray decay him Ray is back alongwith Vinnie Anthony as Alex McNulty with the
kick in the air and again thiswill fly off to the back of the
end zone and beyond with the touchbackat the twenty five yard line Wisconsin.
I don't I don't want to assumethey'll take a knee, but I'm thinking
they might. Well, we'll findout. We're getting to know this staff
(01:29:34):
just like everybody else. I haveto admit I did not envision after chim
scores is touchdown with a minute leftand a false starter, a delay a
game. I did not think thatBuffalo is gonna gone and score three points,
but they did. So never saynever, but I'm thinking they're gonna
kneel. Rodgers will go ahead andtake a knee as Mordecai drops to a
(01:29:56):
knee, and that we'll get usto the end of the first half.
So credit to the Buffalo Bulls. They are going toe to toe with the
Wisconsin managers through the first thirty minuteswhen there's season opening game and had sold
out Camp Randall Stadium. Our scoreat the half Wisconsin fourteen, Buffalo ten
coming up. Mike Keller has ourhalftime report. We're back in a couple
of minutes. This is a Badgerof football from lear Field. It's tied
(01:30:19):
so far. Halftime at Camp RandallStadium, Wisconsin fourteen Buffalo ten. A
few minutes ago, Patrick Kurve caughtup with Badger's head coach Luke Fickle.
Coach, first game for so manypeople you included, how do you feel
like everybody's handled the excitement in thenervousness. I don't know that we're really
sharp right now, but you know, we got another half to go here,
(01:30:42):
and I think we know we startedsome things. We didn't tackle real
well defensively, and you know,we turned the ball over offensive, but
we got about second half and wegot a little dog fight here. What
kind of momentum can you take fromthat last touchdown drive though, and the
great strike to kay No, that'sgreat. We gotta get enrolling. Then
we didn't. We didn't capitalize theirdefensively. Kind of right, too soft
on some of that stuff. Butthere's a lot of things we gotta get
correct yet about the second half toplay really well. Thanks coach, good
(01:31:04):
luck second half all right? Patrickcoach, Thank you very much. Let's
get to some of the first halfstats presented by Wisconsin Operating Engineers in Construction
Business Group Building Wisconsin Together dot Comand pretty close numbers here. Wisconsin two
hundred twenty six yards of offense toone eighty six for Buffalo. The Bulls
(01:31:25):
scuffling on third down one to seven, but the one was a big hit,
a fifty one yard pass play that'sset up their first half touchdown.
Wisconsin three of seven. Tanner Mordecaififteen of twenty through the air, one
hundred and twenty five yards, onetouchdown, one pick. Cole Snyder has
been effective for Buffalo twelve of nineteen, one hundred and twenty two yards and
(01:31:45):
one touchdown. Chairs but Lucy ninecarries for sixty two. Braylon Allan eight
totes for just thirty eight, butAlan does have four catches for eighteen yards.
Mike Washington, the leading rusher forBuffalo, ten carries for thirty eight.
Are it tells you as you mentioned, and I agree you said,
you know, call you crazy, but I think it makes some sense that
(01:32:05):
you know it was good. Goodnews is Wisconsin's ahead, and it hasn't
played particularly well in this first half, credit's a Buffalo, but you want
to see how they handle this now. Is Luke Fickle just mentioned they're in
a dog fight. Yeah they are, and you know it's just a little
choppy, and I think we allwere hoping for one thing, and you
know, we always want everything torun as smooth as you can, but
(01:32:29):
that's football in sports doesn't usually workthat way. So now you're in this
dog fight, and I give Buffaloa ton of credit not knowing a ton
about what they were going to bedoing. They're playing physical. I think
they're competing at a really high level. And you know, Wisconsin needs to
play a cleaner half. That's whatyou We heard that buzzword all week.
You play clean, play clean, throwing a pick. Yet you've had some
(01:32:50):
mistackles, as coach Fickle just mentioned, So there's a lot of room for
improvement. And it's always much betterto be ahead than behind when you're trying
to do that. Buffalo going toget the opening half kick. I'd like
to see the defense be a littlebit more aggressive. I think Buffalo.
I've said this probably ten times alreadybecause it just keeps glaring at me.
(01:33:13):
They're way too comfortable and defensively, let's take it to them. And I'm
sure that message was reverberating through thelocker room at halftime. No doubt,
it was huge for the Bulls toanswer that Wisconsin touchdown the Mordecai strike the
DK and the Bulls came right backdown and got three. At the end
of the half. Ron Cook ColeHarrity will be deep for the Bulls.
(01:33:39):
They will receive and go right toleft, south to north. As we
view it at Camp Randall's Stadium ona hots early September day where there's twenty
twenty three opener Jack van Dyke readyto kick off, here's the runoff.
Van Dyke sends it high end overin and it'll be Cook catching right side
(01:34:02):
at the two, across the fiveto the ten. Cook up across the
fifteen yard line and fights his wayacross the twenty and up to about the
twenty one yard line. Tatum Grassgetting down there on kick coverage for Wisconsin.
That's where the Bulls will take overfirst and ten with the second half
underway. This is a great ten. I mean, it's always great to
(01:34:26):
get a turnover, but I thinkthat's where that aggressiveness in not letting you
just sit back and let them dictateto you. Put the hammer down.
You have the linebackers that you feellike can really make plays. Now defensive
linewise, can we get some pressurein the space. All of those are
the things we'll be looking for herein the second half. Alexanders Smith back
in there at quarterbacks. All alot of Nisier four Gureene in the first
(01:34:48):
half, but it's Smith and Hallmanas the corners. On the first play
for scrimmage of the second half ofthe Bulls twenty one yard line handoff,
Cook working off the left side tryingto get to the edge, gets there
across the twenty five, across thethirty yard line and out of bounds or
Cardo Holman forcing him to the boundarywith a thirty two yard line of Buffalo
at gain of eleven and a firstdown for the Bulls. Yeah, it
(01:35:09):
really held that mess point for along time. Red red red, and
again not anyone back there pressuring makingthe quarterback make a decision quicker to hand
that bar for to ride it andallow that big wide run would be Curry
tight to the left coal herrety MarlonJohnson tight to the right. Mike Washington
is the running back for the Buffalothirty two yard line. First down,
(01:35:30):
hand off to Washington up the left, hash marks and he'll fight his way
up to the thirty five yard lineon a gain of about three for Washington
the two hundred and twenty two poundssoftmore out of Utica, New York.
Second down and seven for the Bulls, opening it at third quarter in Wisconsin
fourteen Buffalo ten Curry slot to theleft, Jake Orlando coming out wide left.
(01:35:54):
Two receivers tight right now Orlando jogsin motion to the formation. Second
down seven, Buffalo from its ownthirty five yard line. Snyder gets the
staff of a quarter pressure coming rightside pass caught by Harrody. Jason Matrie
is there and he takes him downup across the forty yard line, and
it will be third down and twofor Buffalo. Really nice tackle there by
(01:36:16):
Matree to get that was had afirst down written all over it. A
little pressure from the field side closestto us coming at the nice job of
reading by Snyder getting rid of it, but a really nice job getting him
down before that first down, settingup a third and two. As we
mentioned Buffalo on the first half oneout of seven and third down. It's
third and two now at the Bullsforty yard line. Washington, I'll wide
(01:36:41):
to the right now, motions tothe right of the quarterback. Snyder gets
the belt high snap, looks tothrow. Fire's left at his cart by
Washington. Taken down right away bythe linebacker Jordan Turner. Oh. That
is big time work by Turner stoppingWashington and his tracks at his fourth and
two for the Bulls at their fortyyards. Just a great job of diagnosing
(01:37:01):
what Buffalo was trying to do.And then Jordan Turner just saw it,
read it, and just shot hisgun to go get it. And that
was a great open field tackle. You heard about mis tackles all throughout.
He didn't make that tackle. That'sa first down end a lot more great
job there by Turner. Anthony VanAery on to punch him Ray DK deep
in the Wisconsin twenty yard line lineof scrimmage the Buffalo forty that are.
(01:37:26):
He gets the snap and a cleanlook. The kick is away and this
sales over DK. You'll let ithit inside the five. Good decision by
DK as the ball dribbles into theend zone for the touchback and the Badgers
started at their twenty yard line.Looked like he was tempted to make a
play on it and then thought betterof it. Twelve twenty one left in
the third quarter. End We'll goahead and take a break. Pato wata

Twenty twenty three, twelve twenty oneleft third quarter, Wisconsin, the ball
(01:38:34):
and the lead fourteen to ten overBuffalo, Badger's beginning at their twenty yard
line. Raylan Allen in there andrunning back. We'll poling slot right first
down hand off Raylan Allen off theleft side, trying to get around Michael
Fertney who got stood up and Allenable to get a yard out of it
(01:38:55):
to the twenty one yard line, gain of one second out of nine.
Yeah, not a lot of alot of room there to run and Braylin
just kind of buried his head triedto get as much as he could and
they were able to scrap a yard. But Buffalo did a nice job of
maintaining the line of scrimmage on thatplay, Roll Pauling him Ray DK Bryson
Green trips to the right second downto nine for the Badgers their own twenty
one yard line. What a guy. It takes quick shot right side that's
(01:39:16):
caught by Paul and got a blockfrom DK. Pauling angles to the boundary
up across the twenty five up tothe twenty six yard line of a gain
of five. Third down and fourthYeah, I love that by chim out
on the edge again where fall outquick, make your blocks on the perimeter,
get as much as you can,and you know, Chim ray Dka
being a number one wide out,you love to see those guys that are
willing to get in there and scrapget a little bit to pick up some
(01:39:40):
extra yard at the undisputed leader oftheir wide receiver's room looked fickle. That's
how he describes Chim ray DK,who's out wide to the left third and
four for the Badgers at their twentysix yard line. What a guy back
to throw pressure up the middle andTanner almost slipped through, but he got
caught by Sean Dolac behind the lineof scrimmage of the twenty four yard line.
If he escapes there, he's gotroom to run. But Dolac made
(01:40:02):
the play. Yeah, and Buffalodecided to bring some pressure up the middle
is blocked pretty well. That wasa design draw play and it was the
middle of the field. There's afree safety about twenty five yards deep.
He I don't know if he wouldhave beaten him, but it was wide
open. He just got shoelaced, tripped up, or he had had a
big gain ahead of him. AtticusBertram's on to the punt. Ron Cook
(01:40:25):
is deep at the thirty two ofBuffalo line of scrimmage. The twenty four
of Wisconsin snapped the Bertram steps up, got a little pressure on him.
The kick is away. He stirit away from Cook and couldn't hit that
well at all. Actually, asit goes out of bounds, Let's see
if I'll fall up that near sideline. They'll go to market and about the
forty three yard line Buffalo territory.I always like that, if you see
(01:40:46):
a bad punt like that and it'son your sideline, kind of getting away
of the rest him get don't lethim get that head of steam or he
can keep rolling. Make him stoptwo or three times, out of hell
with it. I'll just stop righthere. Maybe saved. The badger is
a good five to seven yards there, just a thirty three yard punt.
Ten fifty three left, third quarter, fourteen to ten Wisconsin. But Buffalo
has a good field position at theBulls forty three yard line. Two receivers
(01:41:12):
tight to the rights, chance tomorrow out tight to the left, Ron
Cooked, the running back, snappedthe Snyder hands off the Cook across the
forty five yard line, Ron Cookup to the forty nine brought down by
Hunter wool Or a gain of sixfor Cook, the fifth year senior at
a Washington DC's legal spider at theforty eight yard line, gain of five
(01:41:39):
second down and five for the Bulls. Good field position for Cole Snyder as
he looks over to the Buffalo sidelineBadger's lead early in the third quarter,
snapped the Snyder swings at right sideCook. The catch chased by lat two,
got by Lot two. Cooked acrossthe fifty got by Luma Jung Meta
(01:42:00):
as well, and Ron Cook withthe effort, we'll get the first down
at the forty six yard line ofWisconsin. Yeah, it's just a simple
swing pass and then it's on Wisconsinto go and chase the football down.
Lock two, missus a tackle,Beta, missus a tackle, and that
that's where he allowed. I gottapick up a first down and what it
should have been a one or twoyard game. But Luke Fickel talked about
(01:42:23):
it. One of his chief concernswas tackling. Here. In this season
opening, Vick McMillan slopped to theleft of the Wisconsin forty six yard line
first and ten Buffalo Snyder gets thestamp Pikes the handoff looks the throw has
time, drops it off, caughtby Cook eastside the forty five, and
he is stopped by Jason Matrie atthe forty one yard line. Game of
five. Five and a half minute'sgone by third quarter, fourteen to ten,
(01:42:45):
Wisconsin leading Buffalo, but the Bullsare on the move. Continue with
the no huddle offense. Sidney Walkerin there at center for Buffalo. Two
receivers tight right, chance tomorrow tightto the left. Snyder will give it
to Cook up the middle inside theforty yard line gets popped by the linebackers,
(01:43:06):
moved by Jung Meta and Jordan Turner, and a penalty marker flies after
the play and yeah, we're gonnaget fifteen here too much finished by old
sixty nine from Buffalo. They're gonnagive him fifteen back. Yeah, they're
gonna pop Jeff Patrotski there, that'sthe left guard Gavee Wallace. Let's see
(01:43:30):
after the play was over dead ballpersonal foul number sixty nine offense fifteen yard
penalty from the end of the rundown belts. He's a big, big
penalty, at least potentially a bigpenalty. Had some All Conference recognition last
year. Did gave Wallace. That'sa big mistake there, though. The
(01:43:53):
ball is walks back to the fortysix yard line of Buffalo and it's third
down, third on at eighteen yardsto go three receivers to the right.
Chance Morrow comes out wide to theleft. The freshman Lamars Spurling out of
Accrent, Ohio in the lineup. Now he put up some eye popping numbers.
(01:44:14):
Whose senior year of high school footballSnaffter Snyder quick shot right side that
was in the dirt dugout wasn't No, they say incomplete knee down intended for
Marlon Johnson. Either he dropped itor the knee was down. He had
to go down and get it.And they'll say the knee was down at
the forty five yard line, sothat's a loss of another yard. So
that penalty just threw everything off forBuffalo. Is the Bulls now forced to
(01:44:35):
punt still down four with eight fiftyleft to the third quarter. Yeah,
that it was one of those youteach your guys oh line to always go
to the whistle, and he wentpast the whistle. He was trying to
finish this guy, and the refsaw it, caught it. And that
was a big break for Wisconsin toget off the field because Buffalo is getting
(01:44:56):
finding their rhythm keeping in short yardageand obviously a fifteen yard penal now they're
punning away that was an incomplete passfor the record snapped of an airy Badgers
get pressure on and they kick isaway. DK will let it hit inside
the fifteen and that is well donefrom Anthony VANNERI a to get the punt
away and be to pin Wisconsin deep. The Badgers are back at their eleven
(01:45:17):
yard line. That was a fortythree yard punts and we are due for
a break in the action. Buildyour career at Cleary Building Corps. We
are committed to your success because peopleare what we value most to visit careers
at Cleary dot Com today. Fortythree left in the third quarter, Wisconsin
fourteen, Buffalo ten. This isBadger football from Lear Fields in the fight
(01:45:41):
sawed posts the winningness of the Badgers, just like the claim for at F
series, America's best selling trucks, touts our forty six years of triumph.
Check one out at your Ford dealer. Eight minutes forty three seconds left of
the third quarter. Remains tights hereat Camp Randall, Wisconsin fourteen, Buffalo
ten. Yeah, it's been again. We're seeing kind of the same things
(01:46:04):
that we saw at least early inthe first half. So now is a
situation. Get the ball back.Let's see what you can do moving it,
not getting into some kind of arhythm, because you've seen some good,
you've seen some bad, and Ithink right now Tanner Mordecai, let's
just get the ball out of hishands. Let's see these this receiving cars.
(01:46:27):
Everybody is raving about. Everybody's excited, and outside of Skyler's drop early,
you've seen him catch the football andget up. Let's get into that
rhythm and see what we can getgoing, get a couple of first downs
and let it rip from there.Tanner sixteen of twenty one, one hundred
and thirty yards, one touchdown, one interception. Badger's backed up at their
eleven yard line. Come out withhim. Ray d k to the left,
(01:46:53):
CJ. Williams out there, SkylerBell as well. In a receiving
corps chasm. Lucy is the runningback. Will Pullings slot to the right,
Skyler Bells slot to the left.So here we go. Mordecai in
the Wisconsin offense for the Badger waseleven the yard line, first and ten.
(01:47:14):
Tanner Bordelini the center, sends itback to Mordecai, hand off to
Molucy off the right side. Acrossthe ten, turns it up fifteen Belucy
to twenty, twenty five, thirtythirty five, forty forty five to the
fifty, cutting left Belucy to theforty, leaving to the thirty page to
the twenty Helocy to the ten tothe five touchdown Wisconsin, Chez Moluci eighty
nine yards. That was you're thisguy down on the field. That that
(01:47:53):
was what we say, beat thefirst guy and then use your speed beat
two or three more. Nice jobblocking up front, but Chez got a
little space, little juke right there, and then another one come back,
finishing down the field and then usinghis speed to get into the end zone.
Well, that was a beautiful jukemove to get by Marcus Fuqua.
(01:48:14):
There's talish mentioned there is a Buffaloplayer down. We can't pick up who
that is. You know. Wewe have talked in rightly so about Braylon
Allen and how chiseled he is.The Bruce Feldman from the Athletic and Fox
Sports put out the freaks list, and Braylon Allen is one of them.
Chez Melucy is really put together aswell. He's a really strong guy.
(01:48:38):
Fifty year senior out of Naples,Florida, as we send it down to
the field of Patrick Herb. Amongthe new additions on the Wisconsin sideline is
a big drum picture like a bassdrum from a marching band. On one
side it says got one. Onthe other side has a big six the
number of points he score and atouchdown and the designation. It's the it's
the celebration drum. After Melussy's firsttouchdown, he came over. He banged
(01:49:00):
on the drum a couple of times. This time he came over karate chop
kicked the drum off the stand, rolling through the bench. So I don't
know what that means right now forthe for the touchdown drum. But it's
a new tradition that we're starting here. Either banging it or kicking in,
I don't know. Yeah, BrysonGreen the first week of camp at Platteville,
he killed a drum. He justhe destroyed it. So they so
(01:49:20):
they had to recruit they bring innew drums. The drum on oh Man,
the drum budget is gonna be upthere. It was Jalen McNair,
the injured player. He was bangedup in the first half and again his
escorted to the sideline for Buffalo asNathaniel Vacos on to attempt the extra point
(01:49:41):
after Chez Molucy electrifies the crowd ofan eighty nine yard touchdown dash and the
kick is good and the lead iseleven for Wisconsin, and we will keep
it here with eight minutes and twentyeight seconds left in the third quarter,
Wisconsin twenty one in Buffalo ten.Yeah, it even looks better now I
(01:50:02):
get a second look at it.The defense of the right defensive end off
the left tackles slanted down hard.Chess kind of paused, let him fly
by, and then there was awide open space and he got into the
secondary as Matt mentioned, made agreat juke to elude the safety and then
(01:50:23):
use that big time speed he's gotto pull away. And then you saw
again every time you see a longbig run, wide receivers down there push
and trying to make sure any lastditch effort of a tackle attempt. And
then Chess found his way, navigatedhimself in to the end zone and needed
it, needed a spark. It'sbeen a little flat. Finally got some
(01:50:45):
energy back in this building. AsJack Van Dyke on the approach. The
kick is away and Ron Cooke willwatch this sale over his head and near
the back line of the end zone. With the touchback of the Bowls will
begin at their twenty five yard line. Well, they first a couple of
Wisconsin scores. Buffalo has had ananswer for Let's see if the Badger defense
(01:51:06):
can get it cranked up and getthe ball back quickly here. Yeah,
and this is where you're really leanon your crowd too. It's I know
it's hot. I don't know ifwe've gotten the hottest jet if, but
we've cranked that up. But thisis where you bring that energy. And
this I think you could sense youcouldn't. Patrick is talking about coach Fickle.
You feel great about scoring that touchdownbefore the first half ended, but
(01:51:28):
then you're just as deflated that yourdefense. Give it. Now is a
chance for the defense to set thetable. Here Travy on Blaylock in the
second area. It's safety along withHunter Walder right now for the twenty five
of Buffalo first down for the Bulls. Bold Snyder's circles left under pressure and
he throws it up and away andyou can plete. And Iger was bringing
a little heat Steryll Peterson among them. On Cole Snyder's second and tenvill the
(01:51:51):
Bulls at their twenty five yard line. Yeah, taking away that first read
it haven't seen it enough at leastfor my liking. But when you do,
that's when you see a little hectic, a little chaos, and that's
when great things can happen when you'rea defensive players, when you get these
quarterbacks in chaos mode. Ben Bartonon the defensive line providing some pressure as
well. He remains in the game. Second and ten for the Bulls at
(01:52:14):
their own twenty five yard line.Snap the Snyder hand off, Ron Cook
cuts to his left eas space acrossthe thirty along the numbers thirty five yard
line and gets popped to the turfby Jake Cheney at the thirty nine yard
line, a gain of fourteen forRon Cook in a first down for Buffalo.
Yeah. Really nice run. Goodshowed good patients there to read it
and then we're just off of theleft tackle did a nice job. There's
not enough support by Wisconsin's defense.Got off the edge and picked up a
(01:52:38):
quick fourteen over the thirty nine yardline. Buffalo territory first and ten,
seven fifty five left, third quarter, twenty one ten Wisconsin. Cook to
the right of the quarterbacks. Schnydercalls for the ball, gets it Badgers
bringing heat up the middle from Cheney. You throw over the middle and that
is caught Trey ViOn Blaylock with theimmediate hit Marlon Johnson. That's a tight

Jake Cheney at the forty one yardline. Well, you're talking about playing
(01:54:06):
fast. Jake Cheney played real fastright there. Yeah, that again.
We've seen that a few times.Now. You can see the intensity in
the middle lineback because I'm guessing theygot called out a little bit half.
Jordan Turner made a couple of playsearlier in this half, and then Jake
Cheney put pressure on the last play, and they're reading the option and just
making his read going downhill, gettinghim down on the ground. Anthony Vaneri

on the punch and Ray DK deepat the eighteen yard line lines scrimmage.
The Buffalo forty one snapta Veneri. The kick is away and this one turns
over again. DK will let ithit inside the five. It checks up
and they kill it inside the fiveyard line. They were able to tap
it just short of the goal line. Water punch from Anthony VANNERI. I
(01:54:55):
thought it might have hit the goalline, but they let it play through
and the Badgers will be at thethree first and ten when play resumes.
And we'll have a time out afterthat fifty six yard punt five fifty left

the third quarter. Let's check inagain with Patrick now. We talked in
the pregame show about the emphasis onfinishing, finishing games, finishing the season.
Part of that is keeping Braylan Allen'spitch count a little low. So
far, chez Molizie ten carries,Braylan Allen nine. Credit both those guys
(01:55:44):
for being able to kind of sharethe load and be okay with their role
on this team, knowing that there'sa long play here. But chez Molizie
certainly being more productive right now.Ten carries for one fifty one. That's
a career high for him. Atthat eighty nine yard run in the last
possession, Braylan's in there now outof the pistol handoff island over the left
side of the line. He'll crashacross the five and get to about the
six yard line on carry number eleventoday or check that carry number ten of
(01:56:09):
the day for Braylon Allen. They'llmarket the sixth gain of three second down
and seven. A terrific punts fromAnthony Vaneri has the Badgers backed up.
They'll stay in the pistol with Allenbehind the quarterback. Tanner Mordecai. Mordecai,
we'll give it to Braylon again upthe middle, across the ten yard
line and reaches up to the thirteen. That's the line to gain and it
(01:56:31):
will be a first down for Wisconsin. Five ten left in the third quarter,
twenty one to ten, the Badgersleading Buffalo. And nice job there
by Tanner, Bordoalini just finishing hisblock getting downfield, and Braylon did a
really nice job keeping his pads low. And yeah, he's seeing this,
(01:56:51):
you know that competitive juice is going. He wants he wants to get some
touches. Catch up with Chaz. Here will Pauli slot right in motion to
the left and first down. Mordecai, We'll hand it to Alan again.
Nothing at the point of attack andalways slipped through and was able to get
three yards out of nothing. Golacfinished. It looked like Jalen Bass,
(01:57:14):
the big defensive tackle, was thereto stop the play, but Alan able
to squeeze about three yards out ofit. Chuck it down four Wisconsin.
Da nice Chabol keeping your feet moving. You're always kind of as the whistle
gonna blow, and until it does, keep pushing, pushing, pushing,
and Braylan is able to grab threethree receivers left CJ. Williams out of
the right snap, the Mordecai swingsit out and left side fifth catch of

Buffalo. As Patrick talked about Braylan, saw what Chas was doing. So
the Wisconsin offense so far has beenbrailing, running, Braylan running, Braylan
(02:00:14):
running, brailing, catching out ofthe backfield. Yeah, a lot of
brailant Obviously Chaz with the big plays, but it's these penalties that you're seeing
from Buffalo, the big one.I think a couple series ago, giving
back fifteen and then here getting Wisconsinout from the shadows of the goal line.
In order to get out here,Braylan picking up a couple of yards
and then adding another fifteen and thisis where Wisconsin needs to sustain this drive
(02:00:40):
and hopefully put this game away. Will Pauling will come out slot to the

Hea can move. Will Pauling onthe receiving end. Yeah, and a
great job by Mordecai of putting itright on him where he could and then
let Pauling do it. But Iagain, my eyes always go Jack Nelson
did a great job of hustling downfield, keeping his body out in front,
letting Pauling pick up a couple ofmornings one of the yards on the play.
(02:01:21):
Pauling in motion slot right to theleft of the Buffalo forty three yard
line. Mordecai fakes the hand offto Braylon Tanner looking looking, shuffles right,
throws it righte and CJ. Williamsunable to stay in bounds and a
liddle v mark bounds came back in. He took the route out of bounds.
(02:01:44):
You're saying, right, Yeah,he was out of bounds. Hell,
every time you see a half flagcombo, that's typically what you see.
Ye, here comes the call. The receiver stepped out of bounds,
came back in, was first totouch the ball. The player was of
mounds incomplete pass yep, here yougo. So it'll be second and ten
at the forty three yard line ofBuffalo. I'm telling you CJ could really
(02:02:11):
be a key player at this receivingcorps. Though young man out of modern
day high school bill teammate Joey Boseout there back in the day and CJ
knows that family transfer from usc Williamsout wide to the right Wherelan Allen is
the running back for the Buffalo fortythree, and the hand off to Braylon

downhill after it's a little draw playand he's man on man on the middle
lineback gets just an no tug ofthe jersey there, and then Braylan Allen
running through tackles. You don't everwant to be brought down by an ankle
tackle and then finishing that run offstrong from the six yard line. Pistol
formation hand off to Allen angles tothe right inside the five, all to
(02:03:18):
the end zone. Touchdown Wisconsin.Braylon Allan a six yard run. As
the Badgers are breaking it open inthe third quarter, they have a buffalo
(02:03:41):
pulled down on the side. Butwhat I saw there, you're starting to
see that physicality Malman Fertney, theycaptured the line of scrimmage. There was
big pushing again. You just sawthem ride that wave in and really nice
job there by brailing, but justshoving guys in Malman's in the end zone.
That leads brailing into get any ofthe end But just look at how
(02:04:01):
they capture the edge and then letmaman get up on a corner that's not
gonna work. And you see Braylanpound his way in for the touchdown,
and another Buffalo player is down andhurts and injuries are really taking a toll
now and Maurice Linguis's team, Yeah, that's what you always worry about when
you're a team coming in, you'refrom a smaller conference. You don't have
(02:04:25):
the depth that you know the Powerfive schools have, and eventually you just
hope that you're gonna keep leaning andleaning. And Wisconsin, you're seeing that
physicality. Everybody's questioning, Wow,what's that going to look like? This
drive was brayling and a lot ofphysicality, and suddenly Braylan Allen has ninety
five yards sixty two coming on thisdrive and six carries. I think any
(02:04:48):
of that was hell Chaz ten fora buck fifty one. I'm not let
me get into this. This looksfun, Yeah, no doubt and u
Yeah, we're looking down there andBraylon took a pass on beating up the
draws. Yeah, the injured playeris CJ. Basil defensive end shooting.
(02:05:15):
You're out of New Jersey he's hada nice afternoon and you've been seeing him
all over the place, so hopefullyhe's all right, walking very slowly,
favoring that right leg. So now, Wisconsin with four hundred and one yards
(02:05:35):
of offense, two hundred forty fiveon the ground, eighty nine of those
coming on the Chess Malusy touchdown runearlier this quarter. Sarr Nathaniel Vakos ready
for the pat They're bad. Drew'sup at the moment, twenty seven to
(02:06:01):
ten, the kick is in theair, they get twenty eight to ten.
We'll hold it here two. Whenit's thirty seven seconds left to the
third quarter, Wisconsin twenty eights,Buffalo ten. Yeah, that was a
fun drive and that was needed.I think you know, you've seen some
of the inconsistencies, and I'm surecoach Fickl was hoping for this type of
(02:06:26):
third quarter where you start playing Wisconsinfootball, you're leaning on people, you're
being physical, you get those bigchunk plays and all of a sudden,
the energy comes back in the stadiumon your sideline and the defense making plays,
getting off the field, and you'reletting Buffalo, you're wearing him down,
which is what I think everybody thoughtwas gonna happen, and now you're
starting to see that transpire. Herein the third quarter, was Jack Van
(02:06:50):
Dyke ready to kick off once again? Unch in four hundred one yards for
Wisconsin, two thirty nine for Buffalo. Mc McMillan and Cole Herrity. The
deep men now for the Bulls. As Van Dyke on the approach and the
(02:07:14):
kick is away and McMillan runs upon it. He'll catch rights out at
the seven, across the ten,McMillan fifteen to the twenty twenty five yard
line. McMillan across the thirty intothe thirty one yard line. Good return
of the bulls will good things startedfrom there. Ohio States leads Indiana twenty
to three. They're at the endof the third quarter there in Bloomington,
(02:07:38):
Maryland. A big over Towson producelosing to Fresno State. Today a couple
of night games. Illinois at homeagainst Toledo, Penn State will host West
Virginia. Safety. A little misconducthere or disqualification first and ten Buffalo.
(02:08:11):
I missed that. I just sawthe old misconduct. I don't I didn't
see it either. I'm assuming itwas some chirping or the bench is here
to and this is you know, frustration starts boiling, and you know,
Buffalo again, give him a tonof credit. Hanging in, hanging in,
and when you start feeling it slipped, you're starting you start acting out
a little bit, and that's uh. Now you're putting yourself in a position
(02:08:31):
you lose ten or fifteen yards,Yeah, you lose fifteen back to the
sixteen yard line, first and ten, Ron Cooked, the running back,
Cole Snyder in the guns who receiversleft, two receivers right, Jake Orlando
motions to the formation, rolling left, Snyder throwing at a low pass incomplete
dangerous past and Nick McMillan Ricardo helmetof the coverage at its second and ten
(02:08:54):
Buffalo at its own sixteen yard lone. Helmets are locked up. Shay,
you're right, Darryl Peterson and RonCook. You always hope helmet gets locked
up. You hope the other person'srational too, So if it's rights,
you don't get herky jerky in that. In that instance, three receivers left,
(02:09:15):
two on the right for the Buffalosixteen yard line, second and ten
to twenty eight left third quarter, twenty eight ten Wisconsin leading Buffalo. Snyder
takes the stamp, a little rollto the left, throws left side,
and it's behind Cole harrity hole.I'm almost able to reach back and pull
it in, unable to at thetwenty yard line of the ear side.
Not a good throw from Snyder there, and the Bulls now have a third
(02:09:37):
and ten at their own sixteen yardline. Yeah, and now you're starting
to see you Buffalo can't. Theycan't stay comfortable. They're they're in a
position now where they have to throwthe football and Wisconsin knows that free safety.
Look Preston Sackman in there, theTreyvion Blaylock, Hunter Woller creeping up
well into the box. Third downin sixteen for the Bulls at their own
sixteen yard line. First a thirddown and ten. Begg your pardon,
(02:09:58):
but the bowles at they're sixteen emptybackfield. Three receivers left, two on
the right, Snyder checking off ofthe line of scrimmage. Play clock at
two at one, and they justget to snap away. So when you
get right side to Cook and AlexanderSmith right there immediately takes care of Ron
Cook at the line of scrimmage, which is the sixteen of Buffalo, and
(02:10:22):
it's three and ounce. The Bowlsare punting from deep in their own territory.
Yeah, ball comes out quick andBuffalo hoping they got to the side
of the field where it was oneon one and if Smith doesn't make that
tackle, probably picks up a firsttime. But you're seeing I'm sure this
is gonna be very welcome from coachFickle. You're seeing the tackling improve.
It's much better than what it was. And you always that's one of the
(02:10:45):
things you worry about coming into aseason, and you want to see that
progression and you're seeing it. Well. Larry with some pressure gets the kick
away him ray DK. We'll catchit the thirty eight yard line, moving
up the middle, cutting right acrossthe forty forty five still up him Ray
pulled down out at midfield would returnfrom shim ray DK. That was Red
(02:11:05):
Murdock and punt coverage forty six yardpunt eleven on the return, and the
Badgers will start at the midfield stripea minute forty one left to the third
quarter. Wisconsin twenty eight, Buffaloten. This is where it'd be fun
to see something up top and ifwe can get Skyler Bell back out here.
Let's get us a big tutter toSkyler, get him back on track
(02:11:28):
from the drop earlier. Lengthened thisthing out, get this thing put away
here before jump around Bell slot right, motions to the left. She has
Melusy in there at running back fromthe fifty yard line. First and ten,
Mordecai will hand him a Lucy goingnorth south and it's his legs cut
out from under him by Max Michelle, the defensive end at the forty eight
(02:11:50):
yard line of Buffalo. A gainof two from Lucy, second down and
eight for the Badgers inside a minuteand a half left to the third quarter.
Tucker Ashcraft the tide emotions left toright. Mordecai back the throw,
looking under pressure, fires to theright, open his Ashcraft catch againside the
thirty twenty five yard line. Popto the turf by Grant Hath That's twenty
(02:12:11):
four of Buffalo and Tucker Ashcraft will'lllimp a bit to the Badger's sideline.
Always freshmen making an impression here forWisconsin this afternoon. Yeah, hopefully that's
he's all right, because he hasreally showed up today in a big way.
Both blocking and also he's had acouple of really nice plays and that's
a position where there's not a lotof depth, and you really you like
(02:12:33):
his emergence in his first game,dk Rucci and Bell out to the left,
spricing Green to the right. Firstand ten Wisconsin at the Buffalo twenty
four yard line, forty seconds left, third quarter in a Buffalo player goes
down and think, gets Jalen McNeilagain, who's really trying to play through
it? He's been down a coupleof times and being looked at. Right
(02:12:58):
now stop the clock with thirty sixseconds left in quarter number three, twenty
eight, ten Wisconsin. Yeah,it's amazing what a little success will do.
And you know, it just feltlike this game it was, you
know, kind of a slog earlyon first half, and you come out
of the second half and I'm surethere was you know, a lot of
energy in that halftime locker room andyou're you just sometimes need one play to
(02:13:22):
kind of break it open. Andthe Chez Milusi play, what he was
able to do with that eighty nineyard touchdown run, it completely has changed
the complexion of this football game. And now you see the confidence of everybody
feeding off of that. Yeah,I think during the week, just you
know, talking to people, justtrying to manage expectations. There's such excitement
(02:13:43):
about this team and what it's doing, you know, especially offensively, Like
you expected to look choppy at times, but you hope there were some splash
plays and we've seen a couple ofthose here. You know, you're just
looking for that put away punch upeighteen here late in the third quarter.
(02:14:03):
So Jalen McNair again, walking slowlyover to the Buffalo sideline. Seconds we're
a defensive injured player. The clockwill start on my wind. So from
the Buffalo twenty four, dk Rucciand Bell to the left, Rice and
(02:14:26):
Green to the right. Chez Maluciin there running back as the clock is
running. Now down to thirty threeseconds left of the third quarter. Morde
guy on first and ten, getsthe snap, he'll hand it to Melucy
plans off to the right side, and he'll fight his way to the twenty
yard line. Marcus Spook for thesafety is there to cover him up.
It's twenty seconds left of the thirdquarter. Nice job there by Mom and
(02:14:48):
the right tackles sealing his guy.Fert Ney did a nice job of keeping
covering up his guy off of theright guard and allowed Melussy to pick up
a couple of seven seconds left ofthe third. Mordecai is going to let
the game clock wind down as wehave hit the end of the third quarter
in Madison. At US Bank,we know when you invest in the community,

on this team take in their firstjump around for the first time. D

lot too behind the line of scrimmage. That's twenty two yard Lili. You
can just see this confidence growing withthe Badger's defense. Do you do and
you see the tackling improve and yeah, that's uh. You could say a
lot of different things, but that'sreps and not doing it in training camp.
(02:21:13):
Now you've had a half, you'vebeen scolded a little bit, and

defensive line, third down, abouta half yard to go inside the forty
yard line, Wisconsin territory. Adirect snap to Ron Cook trying to pick
his way up the middle, andhe has stopped short. They had the
quarterback Snyder lined up to the right. Well, see what kind of spot
(02:24:41):
Cook get? They need the thirtynine. I don't think he got there
not with that spot. No,no, sir, nothing happening. So
still at the thirty nine and ahalf. It's fourth down, and they
just hit on fourth down a momentago, so why not try it again?
Ten t remaining thirty one. TenWisconsin leads Buffalos down, They'll break
(02:25:07):
their huddle, they'll bunch up atthe line of scrimmage. Booby Curry,
single wide receiver the rights. Snyderwill take it and try to just wedge
his way to the line to gain. And boy, it's still very very
close and in the pile like this, and see where they end up spotting
the football and it's still might itlooks like it's going to be short and
(02:25:31):
in such a pile. That couldbe a really tough video review too,
because you've got to try to findthe football they will measure. I'm thinking
he may be the at least halfthe length of a football short, maybe
a little bit more if they neededthe thirty nine. He didn't get it
again, they that short yardage hasbeen you know, third down has been
(02:25:52):
tough for Wisconsin's defense has been greaton third down. Buffalo is one of
thirteen worth thoun We've seen this stopalready before. And trying to go back
to that well of shove shove shoveon a quarterback sneak and we're hoping they're
short. They bring out the chain, they will stretch, said Chain,
(02:26:20):
I got it, and he willbe a little short. As the Wisconsin
Badgers defense rises up and turns backBuffalo on fourth down and a half a
yard So nine thirty five remaining thirtyone to ten, Wisconsin leading Buffalo.
(02:26:45):
Yeah. What you're always looking forto from, you know, when you're
a new staff is all right, what are we good at? What you
start building confidence off of that andgetting off the field on third down obviously
important, but this short yardage defenseand being able to stuff Buffaloes Buffalo's run
the ball pretty well, shutting himdown on forkdown a couple of times.
(02:27:05):
We'll take a break. Nine thirtyfive remaining Wisconsin thirty one, Buffalo ten.
This is Badger football from lear Field, just as a touchdown tastes great
team or against successful farm tastes greattractors. Combines eight tools and more.
Visit caseh dot com Slash Badgers.Nine thirty five remaining Wisconsin thirty one,
(02:27:28):
Buffalo ten. They're empty in thetank. Now with the music. It's
week Caroline. I'll got a littleabbot going. That's your jam. Any
request from you, uh yeah, anything we can get some killers. I'm
on board with that. A littlemister Brightside. It's been a very mister
Brightside type of second half of footballfor the Wisconsin Badgers. So yeah,
that would be my You know,we should probably pay homage to Jimmy Jimmy
(02:27:52):
Buffett. Yeah, did you eversee him live? I have soli twice
at Alpine Valley. Oh, itwas always great that he loved coming here
and you're able to get down there. I think he can't know how many
years in a row he came, but yeah, I can. I can
see you as a parent head.Oh yeah, that was me. He
was great a lifestyle just shy.The forty yard line, Wisconsin Territory,
(02:28:18):
first and ten full, the Badgersup by twenty one points with nine and
a half minutes remaining. Raylan Allenstill in there, running back Mordecai back
the throw looking and he'll check itdown. That's caught by Allan and he
gets popped to the turp of theforty two yard line. Monte Struthers over
(02:28:41):
their gain of a couple that takesreally good discipline by Tanner Mordecai, because
that was a shot play that waswe are going to bury you right here.
And give Buffalo credit, they kepttheir safety and ended up coming back
and he took the check down eventhough I know he didn't want to.
Three receivers left, one to theright, and second down Mordecai st wings
it to the left, caught byAlan and he got hit by Clovester Hines.
(02:29:05):
He was all over it, justacross the forty to the forty one
yard line. That is the seventhreception for Braylon today. Modest yardage off
of it, but he talked aboutwanting fifty catches. Yeah, I thought
he was joking it, but obviouslythat's something you know for his career aspirations
(02:29:26):
is he's gonna want to eventually goto the NFL. That's something he's gonna
want to continue to improve on.So well on his way to get into
fifty a time out taken by Buffalo, the Badgers have a third down and
nine at their forty one yard line, eight minutes, thirty two seconds remaining
thirty one to ten Wisconsin. Thisis the part of the games that.
(02:29:48):
I was curious when you hear Phillong Ago talk on kind of the approach
and what they're thinking about doing it. Are you going to continue to do
that even when you're ahead and slowit down to throw us here up twenty
one? You have to give ita run. Wants you give it a
run. We'll take a break.Badgers up twenty one here in the fourth
quarterback in the moment. This isBadger of football from lear Field. Time
(02:30:18):
is about today's time to spotlight today'sbest of the game. Brought to you
by Old Dominion freight Line. OldDominion Freight Line works hard to be the
best in the game, and itis about to be the official freight carrier
of Wisconsin Athletics. I don't wantto overthink this. Maybe a difference maker
was Chez Malucy's eighty nine yard run. Uh no, let's overthink it.
Let's stick yeah. Not only obviouslya touchdown on a big play, but
(02:30:39):
just completely changed I think the attitudeand the energy of everybody in this building,
and it was such a great playthat I think that was about as
easy of a call as you couldhave had. I don't want to drop
the easy ones. That's true foreighty nine yard touchdown run that gave the
Badgers a twenty one to ten andlead to the third quarter third down and
(02:31:01):
nine for the Badgers at their fortyone yard line. Tucker Ashcraft out to
the left, finning Anthony among threereceivers to the rights Wisconsin today three out
of nine. On third down,Mordecai back to throw a little pressure coming,
Tanner throws and that's intercepted by Dolakat the forty right side. Thirty
(02:31:22):
five twenty five twenty Sean Dolac insidethe fifteen, slowed down by Mordecai and
then Joe Hubert pushed him out ofbounds. As Sean Dolak, the outstanding
linebacker, comes up with the interception. Second one thrown today by Tanner,
Mordecai and Buffalo as a deep inWisconsin territory. Hey, Tanner to just
didn't see, just didn't see Dolak. We'll cross up Blitz and he faded
(02:31:48):
back in kind of in a dropzone and Tanner was not looking there made
to catch. That is the lastthing you want to do when you have
a team sitting here ready to getburied. Give them credit. Give Dolak
credit big play to keep his teamin it, and he's just trying to
get that past to Vinnie Anthony. But Dolak was right there for the pick
(02:32:09):
eight twenty three, remaining first Inten, Buffalo at the Wisconsin eleven yard
line, trips to the left.Cook is the running back. Herrity,
McMillan and Morrow are the receivers onthe left side for the Bols Blake clock
is it eight? Quick will shiftto the left of the quarterback. Schneider
takes a snap, little roll tothe left, throwing left side and a
(02:32:30):
low pass and not able to gatherit is Cole Herrity, but out in
front of him and knee high, unable to catch it. Check it down.
In ten Buffalo at the Wisconsin elevenyard line. Inordinate amount of rolls
to the left. Yep, let'sI think the third or fourth one in
this half. And I think sometimesyou do it just to break tendencies,
but maybe he really enjoys. I'vemet a lot of right handed cornerbacks that
(02:32:50):
love doing that. Buffalo's offense inthe second half, they've had four punts
and lost the possession on downs.Great opportunity here to get in the end
zone for the second time. Here'sthe hand off, the cook off the
right side inside the ten, cuttingoutside the numbers, cook inside the five,
and he has popped out of oundsby Hunter Wooler's her fork. Ureene
(02:33:13):
over there as well though. Placedat the three third down and two for
Buffalo eight ten remaining thirty one toten. Wisconsin leads Buffalo and it kind
of just hung behind his line.It didn't look like there was a lot
there, and then just kind ofdid a little quick shift, jumped out
a little jump cut and was ableto pick up a quick eight h third
and two at the Wisconsin three tripsto the left again, RL McMillan and
(02:33:39):
Herrity. Schneider gets the stamp lookingto throw floats and left side end zone
wide open. Herrity hold at theshoulder catch touchdown. Buffalo got behind Trey
ViOn Blaylock and the Bulls capitalized onthe misque from Wisconsin. Kind of similar
(02:34:01):
to that first touchdown where you rana little interference on one side and then
ran up basically a corner fade tothe back pylon, and Snyder's throwing it
beautifully on both of those throws andgot a touchdown to Heredy again thirty one
sixteen Wisconsin seven forty three to playAlex McNulty with the extra point try and
(02:34:28):
it is good. So the bullswepen a couple of scores here thirty one
to seventeen Wisconsin, as we'll keepit here. I did. I felt
like I heard you do a NickSaban eight and I was I hearing things
before. I think you're hearing things. Okay, well maybe I did.
(02:34:50):
All right, all right, wellgot you a little bit. Yeah,
So I think that's the part Iwas just I was wondering. I think
I think I did do that.When you get I loved it. I
was gonna jump in. I wantto interrupt you as you're dialing up to
play. But I think that thisis a case where the intrigue of what
this newness is because in the olddays, and I don't want to be
(02:35:15):
that guy, but you're up twentyone, you're gonna pound the pill and
you're just gonna hangd you line upand jumbo and pound it, and that's
not what we're doing. And Ithink ye skeptics are gonna say, well,
that's why you don't do that.So now you see, now it's
down to a fourteen point game. You stick with what you're doing and you're
going to continue to improve on it. There's going to be some growing pains
within that that right there was aKirk Cameron moment. You remember that show
(02:35:41):
That's bad that's big time. That'sthrow onside kick, little middle dribble.
But the Badgers are there to coverit up. That was Hawking Anderson down
there, and to make the playfor Wisconsin. You bring a little growing
pains. Okay, very nice, nice job there by Wisconsin special teams to
(02:36:03):
be ready. You should always beon high alert. But you see what
Buffalo is doing here. A lotof times you get behind by twenty one.
You're smaller school. And it's fourthand eight, I think, is
when they went for it from downhere. You're gonna punt it away and
let's get on the bus. Let'skick our check and get out of town.
Buffalo is sticking with it now.Down fourteen tries to surprise on his
head kick. Give Wisconsin credit, ready for it, covered it now.
(02:36:24):
Wisconsin needs to go down and finishthis thing on with that first group out
there on offense, three receivers, right, Hayden Rouccie one of them to
tight end will motion to the left. Jim Ray dk wide left, snap
the Mordecai, he'll hand it toBraylan Allen inside the forty five to the
forty yard line. Allen thirty five. Allan down to the thirty yard line
Buffalo. That was Dolac on thetackle. There's Alan pops free down to
(02:36:48):
the thirty yard line of the Bulls. Yeah, you almost saw Braylan welcoming
contact. Yep, come on,let's go. Let's see what you got.
He gets that head of steam goingand he is ready. He is
not someone that's not willing to takeon some contact. He was welcoming it
right there. One hundred eleven rushingyards now and fifteen carries for Alan.
Mordecai gives it to him again.Brailing off the left side, gets the
edge outside the numbers thirty twenty fiveyard line, at is forced out of
(02:37:11):
bounds like Clevester Hines at the twentytwo of Buffalo, a gain of eight.
And he's showing his wisdom a littlebit too. And there's a case
for probably the young eighteen six wheneverit was sixteen. The myth goes at
that time out of bounds, pickup your eight yards and just shut out
of bounds. How many times didyou hear that two years ago? Now
he's only seventeen, He's only seventeen. Will Pauling slot left, motions to
(02:37:35):
the right for the Buffalo twenty twoyard line. Mordecai gives it to Alan
again, picks his way through insidethe twenty cutting to the right, has
the edge outside the numbers. Tenhot touchdown, Brailan Allen, twenty two
yard Love for Allen at its thirtyseven to seventeen Wisconsin. Love the patients
(02:37:58):
there. It was not immediately, kind of let some stuff wash down,
let his blockers come through, andBraylon Allen continues to show a great second
half of football season, great jumpcut and again as we see when there's
long touchdown runs, willing, thewillingness of blocking by the wide receivers were
(02:38:18):
appalling. With a nice block thereto finish that touchdown off. We're hailing
one hundred and forty one rushing yardschase, but Lucy one fifty seven Nathaniel
Vakos with the extra point and hepops it through. With six minutes from
thirty eight seconds to play, thirtyeight seventeen Wisconsin, we are back in
one minute. This is a badgeof football from lear field there. Wisconsin
(02:38:39):
snapping the ball at seventeen on theclock on each of those last couple of
snaps, so where it was abouttwenty two twenty three most of this game.
I guess that's a slowdown for thisteam, right, that's fourth corners
offense. I guess yeah. Asyou mentioned in the pregame, Wisconsin compared
to Longo's offense or North Carolina.Carolina would stamp at about five seconds earlier
(02:39:01):
on the play clock than Wisconsin, and with Mordecai it was even more than
that. They played at an evenfaster pace. At SMU Jack van Dyke
to kick off. Lamar's spurling isdeep along with Nick McMillan, shadows now
(02:39:24):
all across the field, maybe loweringthe temperature by a couple of degrees is
Vandyke's kick hits the back end ofthe end zone again and a touchback.
The Bulls start at their twenty fiveyard line. A great time of year.
The college football season Underwade Packers opena week from tomorrow at Chicago.
You're a I saw a couple ofold teammates going to the Packers Hall of
(02:39:46):
Fame on Thursday night, right,Tom, Yeah, it was. It's
a lot of fun tonight. It'salways great. It's so tough to get
together with guys now unless it's youknow, a funeral or a wedding,
and to celebrate their Josh Jordy's careerwas a ton of fun this weekend.
Held by all first down handoff acrossat twenty five and up to about the
(02:40:07):
twenty eight yard line. Jaquez Barksdalegiving the tote. But maybe we would
see Spirling their outstanding freshman running back. He rushed for about eighteen hundred yards
in the playoffs last year in highschool. At six playoff games for the
(02:40:28):
year, he rushed for nearly fourthousand yards. You get crazy numbers sometimes
in high school. That's really crazy. That's pretty good, that's very crazy.
Snyder throws over the middle and wasable to squeeze it through to Booby
Curry, who got sandwiched by JordanTurner and Nisier Fork Greene a yard short
(02:40:48):
of the first down third down inone Buffalo at its own thirty four yard
line. Definitely feel the intensity themiddle linebackers. I would be curious if
there was a little conversation. Definitelyplaying faster than what we saw on that
first half. The officials step inhere, previous play is under further nervous
about Okay, I'm a little nervousabout that at this stage of the game.
(02:41:11):
Of course, that if it isa targeting that would take the player
out of the first half of nextweek's game. I don't know why we
haven't fixed that yet. The wholeidea on what's what with that. We'll
see if this is I hope it'snot. But anytime there's those passes over
the middle and you get a bighit like that, I always get a
little nervous. Yeah, the helmetfrom Jordan Turner was lowered, that's for
(02:41:33):
sure. Let's plush ten seconds forstation identification, ten for an idea.
This is badge of football from nearfield. The helmet started to lower.
(02:41:54):
It just that wasn't the crown ofthe helmet that that made contact there.
That's what they're checking out. Dan'lltell us. Can't hear him, but
I'm sure Dean's telling you. I'mnot sure it's the crown of the helmets.
(02:42:15):
So is it? Even if youI know, if you go to
the head or neck, what aboutthe chest plate. Well, if it's
the crown of the helmet, ifyou is that, it's yeah. Now
they have been able to reduce thenumber of these types of penalties. You
know, it's something that no officialhelp of the replay Ruth wants to call.
(02:42:35):
But now no, and I giveI give credit where credit is due
the players safety part of it.You needed to crack down on what was
going on. I just I thinkthere's malicious intent and then there's the accidental
and yeah, there comes a callafter further review, defender number fifty four
(02:43:01):
lowered his head and hit a defenselessreceiver at the crown of his helmet for
personal foul targeting number fifty four.Defense number fifty four is disqualified from the
game. That will keep Jordan outof the first half of next week's game
at Washington State. You can youcan imagine Luke Fickle is not at all
(02:43:22):
happy with that decision. And that'sputting it mildly. Yeah, I'm with
you. I get calling it.It's you know, the penalty of it.
It's just still fifteen yards. Yeah, I think if it's something really
malicious, which we still see occasionally, I think everybody is educated enough now,
(02:43:43):
but that is what stinks. Youget the fifteen yards, okay,
but that was not some malicious headhunting operation, is it? By the
letter of the law. Probably,But to have to miss half and next
week's game, I really wish theNCAA would look at doing some things,
maybe a little more on a scalethan what they do. It can't just
(02:44:03):
all be uniformed. Yeah, no, I agree for the forty nine yard
line of Buffalo first and ten forthe Bulls, Snyder back to throw pressure
up the middle. They drop itoff to Barksdale and he is brought down
by Nysier Fork. Crene Man outof Grand Valley States stops Barksdale after a
gain of a couple to the fortynine of Wisconsin. Matt Mitchell, the
(02:44:26):
Badger's outside linebacker coach, was thehead coach and a real successful one at
Grand Valley State of Division two program. Fork Guren originally was going to go
to Vanderbilt, and then the opportunityto get in the depth here, there's
a tough pass, there's kind ofa throw away. They're a dangerous one.
Is Snyder got a check down ofBarksdale sails in complete. Darryl Peterson
(02:44:46):
on the coverage is third down ateights for Buffalo at the Badger's forty nine
yard line. Yeah, you're startingto see a lot more pressure put on
Snyder and that's leading to some arrantthrows and some of the other things that
you're always hoping for. Jake Cheneyand Muma Jung Meta linebacker Combo unter Wolder,
(02:45:07):
the extra safety sneaks into the boxat linebacker depth three receivers right one
on the left, Barksdale the runningback. Snyder takes the snamp you'll give
it. The Barksdale room up themiddle inside the forty five yard line,
gets chopped down by Wohler at theforty two, so it'll be fourth down
and short for the Bulls with fourforty remaining thirty eight to seventeen Wisconsin had
(02:45:28):
we got them right where we wanthim short and let's see if you want
to run that jail and hurts quarterbacksneak again in this position that they knew
that they're going for it, runthe draw, setting themselves up to try
and finally convert one of these fourthand shorts. Harding out wide to the
lefts Barksdale, the running back Snyderin the shotgun fakes the hand off.
The Barksdale, pressured by Peterson throwingright side, McMillan to catch along the
(02:45:52):
sidelines thirty five to the thirty yardline and out of hours at the twenty
nine of Wisconsin. Penalty marker onthe play after block up and this will
be coming back getting penalty plagued herein the final few minutes of this game.
(02:46:15):
I have thrown I always love youthrow the arms up. You bring
attention to it too. Once hethrew his arms up, I saw the
head raft. The old white captainfired that flag. Didn't need to do
it. Personal foul illegal blindside blockoffense number eleven, fifteen yard penalty from
(02:46:37):
the spot of the foul repeat fourthdown. Yeah, it's Marlon Johnson,
the fifth year senior with that penalty, So we'll place it at the forty
four of Wisconsin. It's fourth andthree for Buffalo. Munch in Washington State,
(02:47:07):
the next opponent, were about readyto kick off at Colorado States,
a road game was start the yearfor the Cougars. Three receivers left,
one on the right, Barksdale therunning back, fourth down, and three
Buffalo at the Wisconsin forty four yardline. Lake clock is at five.
Darksdale shifts to the left of thequarterback, lake clock at one. Here's
the stamp rolling left against Snyder downback pedaling under pressure, throws it up
(02:47:31):
left side too high, incomplete oneat McMillan and again I'll roll to the
left and had a desperate back pedaland they lose the ball on down guy.
I love what Daryl Peterson did rightthere. He put his head down
there, rolled left. They weretrying to kind of capture him with that
left tackle to get the edge.He didn't let him capture him, and
(02:47:52):
then he put his head into therunning back and buried him back into Snyder,
forcing him to continue to drift anddrift the drift, and that's set
up the chance for Wisconsin get thefootball back. Really good individual effort there
by Daryl Peterson. Keantes Lewis inthe rotation now at receiver along with Quincy
(02:48:13):
Burrows and Vinnie Anthony Jackson Acre formerVerona Wildcats in there at running back.
While at the forty four yard lineof Wisconsin first and ten as Mordecai hands
a two Acre up the middle fortyfive to the fifty and Jackson acre battle
of forty eight yard line of Buffalo, a good eight yard game for Jackson.
(02:48:37):
Ran at six times in a gameagainst Rutgers a couple of years ago.
Used last year as a receiver, handful of catches last year for Jackson
as a fullback. Fullback no longerin existence at Wisconsin, but Jackson has
running back skills to be sure.At the forty eight of Buffalo, second
down and two for Mordecai in theWisconsin offense, Tucker Ashcraft the tied end
(02:49:00):
out to the left, three receiversto the rights, and as Mordecai quit
shot and is intended for Ashcraft,I got batted back to Mordecai and Clovester
Hines is there to take care ofTanner. Mordecai back of the forty two
yard line of Wisconsin. Yeah,it was the right It was the right
read because he saw that the cornerthat was covering Ashcraft was going to be
(02:49:22):
coming off of the edge. Justthen. Admit A batted the ball down
as he was coming on the blitzand sometimes it's better knock that ball down,
don't take those added hits. ATanner got drilled after that. Clvester
Hines was a receiver converted to thesecondary. They were depleted and actually played
there in the bowl game last Decemberagainst Georgia's Southern Mordecai back to throw against
(02:49:46):
the four man rush, Tanner looks, flips at right side, sliding catch
made by Keyantes Lewis and just shortof the stick though market at the forty
seven yard line of Buffalo, andit will be fourth down and one for
Wisconsin offense days on the field. With two minutes to play thirty eight to
(02:50:07):
seventeen, the Badgers Quincy Burrows, another one of those transfers from Cincinnati.
He is out wide to the left, Lewis to the right. Pistol formation
now acre behind the quarterback ten OrMordecai, and officials stop play for the
moment center judge getting in there. The Badger's subbing Buffalo has the same opportunity
(02:50:33):
a minute forty eight remaining, therunner was beyond the line to game first
and ten. Wisconsin. All right, you take that too, Yeah,
very nice. Didn't even need areview for that, All right. That's
(02:50:54):
that's hey, there's two minutes.Let's get this baby moving. That's right.
It's been hot out here. Thisbad boy is about three and a
half hours old. Here, let'sgo by the forty six of Buffalo.
First down Wisconsin with a minute fortyremaining. Mordecai perfectly willing to bleed the
(02:51:15):
clock here a little bit. Playclock is at ten. Tanner takes a
snap. You'll give it the Acreover the left side, inside the forty
five inside the forty yard line,Acre down to the thirty five yard line.
Foot way is there along with theMatrius Harris. There's a first down
run to the thirty five yard LINEUBuffalo with a minute eighteen to play.
Nice chef, you always I stilllove seeing guy ones are still out there.
(02:51:37):
You got finishing their blocks, finishing, finishing this game off. You
always want to finish the game doinga victory formation when you have a night
like tonight. You're right. Thenumber one old line remains in the game,
as does the number one QB Mordecai. He'll hand it to Acre again
and he gets wrapped up by GeorgeWallow just inside the thirty five. They'll
(02:51:58):
mark at the thirty four. Wallow, a senior defensive tackle out of Columbia,
Maryland. Forty eight seconds to playsecond down and nine for the Buffalo
thirty four yard line. Badgers uptwenty one to win another season opener.
That would make it twenty seven outof the last twenty eight season openers that
(02:52:18):
have gone Wisconsin's way. Penn Statewas exception yep, thinking this will be
the final play as Mordecai, that'lldelay handoff to Acre wrapped up like John
Andreson, Joe Andreson, beg yourPardner, that the line of scrimmage and
that will wrap it up. TheLuke Fickle era underway. What they win.
(02:52:43):
Not a perfect game, nor didmany really expect that, but the
Badgers get the job done. Therunning back combo of Braylon Allen and Chez
Molucy Shine, Badger defense cleans upsome things in the second half, and
it's a thirty eight to seventeen winfor the Wisconsin Badge. That is your
(02:53:03):
final score, Wisconsin thirty eight toBuffalo seventeen. We're back with the postgame
show, brought to you by yourlocal Wisconsin and Up four dealers. This
is Badger football from lear Field
