On the Adventure Sports Network from learField, setting the left side, Martin

the Wisconsin Venters are big egs headheads. This is Wisconsin Volleyball with the

No, here's the voice of WisconsinVolleyball, John Odious. For the
first time almost a quarter of acentury, Wisconsin travel south to Gainesville,
(00:51):
Florida to play the Gators. Bothteams have yet to drop a match to
this season, and both will tryto keep it that way when perfection meets
Perfection this afternoon from Exact Tech Arenain Gainesville, John Audius and Jessica Williams
with you number one in eight andO Wisconsin wraps up the non conference against
third ranked and eight and O Florida. And for the Badgers, they remain
unbeaten after grinding out a four setvictory at Fiser Form wins in night against
(01:14):
Marquette. So what allowed Kelly Sheffield'steam to come through with two set victories
by just two points? Here's theBadger's head coach. You know, one
of the things that this team hasshown is a resiliency. It's a you
know, when when their backs havebeen against the wall of just coming out
and fighting and it hasn't guaranteed uscoming all the way back and winning.
(01:36):
You know, there's been sometimes we'vefallen just short, but how we've closed
outsets have been typically really good. You know, you can you can make
say something about well where was thatfor the first part of it that you
know? The ability to do thatis every coach and every's worn in the
country wants to see, does yourteam have the ability of fighting when their
(01:59):
backs against wall and chipping away andbelieving and being able to execute. And
I'd think so far we've we've hadsome opportunities to and have come through.
Sage Damrell also played in her firstcollegiate match, which was pretty interesting when
you think about stepping in front ofseventeen thousand fans and then stepping behind the
service line. What'd you think ofthe role that she had or played in
that match. Sage is a goodplayer, right, and you know we're
(02:22):
trying to get her healthy and thingsand and uh, you know, we
certainly believe in her and excited abouther future and and uh, it's a
big moment, but you know sheearns those moments with how she'd been playing
in practices the past couple of weeks, and you know, proud of her
and that there's a lot there's alot more in front of her down the
road. I'll say, talking withWisconsin head coach Kelly Sheffield in Gainesville,
(02:45):
it's number one Wisconsin versus number threeFlorida and that top three match up today
and the last three matches between thesetwo teams have been just spectacular five setters.
Are we in store for more ofthe same today? I would think
that would probably be a good betto place. I mean, yeah,
you know when you're thinking about twoof those were in se tournament matches and
(03:06):
the other one was a h theCole Center match, and all of those
decided by what three points? Twoor three points in the fifth set?
Those were those were you know, why aren't those uh played on ESPN Classic.
You know it's uh, but thisone has the ability These guys.
These guys are really good. They'recoming in with a lot of confidence.
What would you like to see continueto play out through the rest of all
(03:30):
today obviously and through the rest ofthe season that you've seen through your first
eight matches. Yeah, it's auh you know, I I think we've
we're starting to figure some things outa little bit. Uh. You know
that we haven't had a challenge quitelike this. Uh, So I'm really
anxious and not anxious. I'm excitedto see how our team responds. You
know that. I mean, theseguys will be knocked on the door of
(03:51):
a record crowd for them and youknow, obviously on on ESPN Match and
you know, uh, two teamsin the top three boat teams haven't lost,
coming in with a lot of confidence. You know. The idea of
the non conference is learning about yourteam. I mean that is that is
more important than probably winning, islearning about yourself, learning what you've got
(04:13):
to work on so that you cando that. You know, when you
head into what is more valuable tous is the Big ten. We're learning
an awful lot about our team tonight, and I'm really excited about about doing
that. And then then obviously we'vegot Northwestern next week, but a big
one on tap today. Best ofluck, Thanks Sean. That's Wisconsin head
coach Kelly Sheffield. Keep it righthere. We'll get a scout of the
Gators next. You're listening to WisconsinBadger Volleyball presented by Goodman's Steelers, providing

Welcome back to Gainesville, Florida.Number one Wisconsin facing number three at
Florida, now joined by associate headcoach Brittany Dildn. Want to talk about
(04:59):
the Gators first, I kind ofwanted to get your your thoughts following that
win over Marquette. What are yourthoughts on the for set victory? Well,
I think, first of all, winning winning is hard, and that
needs to be you know something thatevery once in a while we step aside
and remember that I thought, youknow, it wasn't our best match.
It was nice to learn that wecan persevere when things are a bit messy
(05:24):
and things aren't going our way.I think, you know, the best
teams in the country figure out howto do hard better than their opponents,
and I thought we did that today. It's Florida. And when you look
just statistically watch Florida, they goto Kennedy Martin a lot in her freshman
season, four and a half killsper set. What kind of makes her
so effective? Well, her height, you know, that's certainly one thing.
(05:47):
And I think we've got a coupledominant right sides, you know as
well, and that gives teams somefits when they're going I think, you
know, it's away from the strengthof our block too. You know,
the strength of our BA is onthe other side of the net, and
then and she'll be running a lotat And that's the case across many teams
is the left side attackers are nottypically your strongest blockers at the net.
(06:13):
Certainly there are good ones, andours are are good, but they're not
the strength of our first line ofdefense, which is the case for a
lot of teams. And you know, she's got to reach and she's got
range and she forces people to dup. Talking with associate head coach Brittany
Bildine Wisconsin and Florida, final questionfor you what are some keys to a
Badger's victory here this afternoon. Youknow, I'd really like to see our
(06:38):
serve game step up from from lastmatch. And then I just think,
you know, we've got to bewilling to transition to win in the transition
part of the game. I thinkit's it's gonna be hard to get the
ball down against the Gators. They'retheir second line of defense is exceptional and
I'm interested to see, you know, who wins that really pretty point every
(07:01):
time the longer the rallies are,are we still the harder working team And
I think that's that's probably what it'lltake. But certainly, you know,
every aspect of the game is ina match like this really important. Best
of luck. Thanks, that's BritneyDildine. Keep right here, Badger Notebooks.

Wisconsin versus number three Florida. Now, Wisconsin's coming off a win to stay
(07:54):
undefeated on Wednesday at five ser formAnd that's the true an indoor regular season
record of seventeen I was in inthirty seven. The Badgers top the Golden
Eagles in four, so that meansUS now eight and l That's the fourth
time in the last eleven years underhead coach Kelly Sheffield. It's the best
opening start since Wisconsin was sixteen andzero to start the COVID year. Now,
in that match with Sue Ace's IzzyAshburn broke the u W career aces
(08:18):
record. One hundred and sixty sevenis the new record and counting Sarah Franklin
needed a couple of kills to getto one thousand. She did just that,
so she becomes the twenty sixth Badgerto reach one thousand kills. All
right, let's take a look atWisconsin and Florida. What's the all time
series look like? Well Badger fans. Florida leads it six to one.
(08:39):
This is the second meeting ever inGainesville. Florida won the only match up
back in two thousand in three sets. But these two teams have battled in
their last three matches. In twentyfifteen in Austin, Texas in the Sweet
sixteen, it was Florida advancing witha fifteen twelve win in the fifth set.
In Omaha in that COVID year, the Badgers topped the Gators in the
(09:00):
fifth fifteen to twelve to move tothe final four. Meanwhile, last season
at the Cool Center, it wasFlorida winning by two in the fifth set.
All right, we'll keep it righthere when we come back. Starting
lineups opening serve. Get ready Numberone Wisconsin, number three Florida. That's
coming up next. You're listening toWisconsin Badger Volleyball presented a Goodman Schuelers providing
sparkle the Madison for ninety years.Adius Jess Williams with you. Almost ready
(09:33):
for number one Wisconsin versus Number threeFlorida. Look at the lineups. First
for the Gators eight No. Rankedthird in the country. Ac Fitzpatrick five
eleven Senior almost three kills per set. Alexa Stuckey six two sophomore. She's
the setter. Nadi Okamore is asix four middle and a senior. Trinity
Adams five nine ds a junior,Kennedy Martin six foot six four and a
(09:56):
half kills per set. She's afreshman. Anna Dixon six three in the
middle grad student Ellie McKissick is thelibero five seven and a senior for the
Badgers eight no ranked number one inthe country. Caroline Crawford six three middle,
averaging one point two blocks per setfor the Badgers this season. Devin
Robinson six two on the right side, the senior just over three kills percent
(10:18):
is he. Aspern is the setterfive eleven grad student, Tammy Thomas Ai
Lara six two, also a gradstudent. On the left. Sarah Franklin
six foot four senior one thousand careerkills plus after reaching that mark against Marquette.
Carter Boot six seven in the middleof sophomore and Julio Joe is a
libero six foot junior. Sister MolstonPoland played her high school volleyball at Lee
(10:39):
Sambo Gunoxto, Don't Sami storsfos Portadegoand stone Jatay. All right, here
we go Number one Wisconsin, numberthree Florida. Justin thoughts before first served,
man, he just imagines that youwant to play when you're in college.
So this is an excellent matchup. This is a great test for for
our team. And see, uhwhere we're gonna accomplish going to the big
(11:00):
ten will Scotson and Florida. Andhere we go with the opening serve left
or right by the Badgers. Floridagoes down line and gets a kill from
the right side right away to Martin. And that's a name we're gonna be
hearing a lot. This is that'sour favorite offensive option. So we'll be
(11:22):
hearing her name a lot tonight.Badger passers in the back row awaiting this
served by Martin. So toss inthe year serpent right into the top of
the net and a serving error tiesit at one apiece. Opening set and
(11:43):
so Wisconsin stepped back by this serviceline. It's Tammy Thomas I Laura,
thank you, Jess, jump topsand handle by m Kissick in the back
row. Now Stucky sets to theleft. Fitzpatrick got a tech and got
the kill. Two long Florida inthe first set, and that was an
(12:03):
instant no touch from Devin, aninstant no touch from Carter. So it
looks like Kelly's going for the challengehere. Okay, So I gonna use
the challenge right away. Remember, you get two if you get it correct
to keep it. And this iskind of an interesting moment right in the
match to challenge just because we're soearly in the very first set. If
you lose this, you only haveone the rest of the way, which
(12:26):
could be very vital. Well, but I mean, I guess the benefit
of the challenge, like when youhave players that are saying I did not
touch it, You're not gonna sayI didn't touch it when you actually touched
it, like you. You're notgonna waste the challenge on that right away,
for you know, so you know, Kelly's setting the tone here,
Devin setting the tone, you know, keep the keep the line judges,
honest. Yeah, and hopefully theyhave a good clean look at it as
(12:50):
well to prove that that there wasno touch touch call. But the Badgers
are using the challenge. Wisconsin issix and two and challenges so far this
season. A new stat we're tryingto keep the track off during our unofficial
stat yes, unofficially, unofficially sixand two. So we'll see what they
can take a look at. Thisis my one time I'm going to just
(13:13):
complain about the view we are onthe end line. It's very difficult to
kind of see the other side ofthe court as far as positions and everything
like that. So we'll deal withthat. Like right now, I don't
even know where the down official islooking. I'm sure it's still looking at
the replay. But we'll see howthis goes and we'll keep it right here.
(13:35):
So some stats to keep in mind. Top three matchup, and it
was a called it out. Sothat was a great challenge by Kelly.
Make that seven and two and challengesall right. So Wisconsin wins the challenge,
they retain it and they will haveanother one still too remaining. So
(13:58):
here comes Tammy, serve a bulletright at Mkissic. Great pass, stuck
you to the left and Pitts passfor it, gets it to drop that
time cross coort to the back row. It's two each. She got that
right past Temmy in between Tammy andOjo in the back row, and here's
(14:22):
Knan to serve for Florida. Readyto go right to left. Three Badger
passers awaiting this one, so tossit to the air and go deep in
out of bounce. So there isa service error by Florida and it gives
Wisconsin a three to two lead. Here in the opening set, second service
air in a row for them,go ahead, two serves, two airs.
(14:43):
Julia Ojo will step back behind theline for the u W. She
had three aces and the win Wednesdaynight against Marquette. Floats it to the
back row over pass see seed dropsit back over and down for the kill.
So there's another good serve by theBA. Dger's leberrel and Cecy didn't
really you know, she kind ofjumped a little early. She didn't throw
(15:05):
that down with a lot of force. Sometimes you don't need that. It
was just a little tap and ablock, you know, and an overpass
it. Here's eyes to the backride at Canaan. Stucky sets it up,
flying in, going down the lineand getting the kill is Florida,
and that was Anna Dixon making ita four three score. Still the Badgers
(15:28):
on top went to the far sidecorner for the kill. Now here's Dixon
again, tossed into the air andstill fire on it. Timmy tight pass
and it's flipped up it over thenet by Astrom. It'll be a point
for Florida. Back row a tackcalled against disease in the back row four
four in the first she tried tosave that with one hand straight up it
(15:52):
just by jumping. It's a backrow tech when it goes over the net.
Four eats. Here's Dixon serve again. Tammy pass off to the left,
handled out of bounced by Franklin, brings it back in play. A
swing off speed role thereby Devin.Second ball sent over by Stuckey, Wisconsin
underneath it. Franklin into the blockand covered. Now ashbur incests at the
right side where Vinson tries it stopoff the block and a double contact called
(16:15):
against Wisconsin. We'll give the pointto Florida. Here in this almost sell
out arena at Exact Tech Arena inGainesville, it is loud here. They're
expecting it to be a school recordin attendance for this top three showdown.
Florida leads at five four In thefirst, Serve goes back row off of
Tammy and in boss it's an acefor the Gators and it's six four Florida.
(16:41):
Sammy tried to push it forward andthen Ojha was trying to get that
second ball and Tammy was standing rightin the way of Julia. Here's Dixon
again serving from the back right, rights it in deep at the end line.
Another ace and Florida as its largestlead of the set at seven to
(17:04):
four and No. One. Timmywas kind of acting like she was going
to go past that, and thenthe last second pulled off, so she
must have really thought that was goingto be out seven four Gators opening set.
Here comes Dickson again, puts itin play to the back road.
Timmy pass off to the right, save by Asper and tipped over by Robinson.
(17:26):
It's picked up by Florida stucky highset up to the left side.
Fitzpatrick rolls on it, It's grabbedby Ojo. Now to the outside.
It's swing by Franklin down the lineon the left, saved by Florida back
row blocks. Martin tries the backrow attack and the badger's block sends it
back seven five stopped a five nothingFlorida run sitting, so the block goes
(17:57):
to Franklin and Cross and it's atwo point deficit for the u W.
Here's Hamill to serve for Wisconsin, number one versus number three both teams eight
and oh this season. There isStucky setting up Martin again goes over the
block and goes out of bounds onher attack. And we're gonna see a
(18:18):
lot of like you said, KennedyMartin, the freshman, a lot of
swings and they'll set her all overthe place, front row, back row,
she's there, go to all alwaysanother point by Wisconsin and the Batcher's
trilip by one. Here's one ofthe two Batcher's setters, MJ. Hamil,
ready to put it in play, toss into the air, floats at
back row at canon Stucky sends itto the left pin and Wisconsin who try
(18:42):
to get that block on the left, but it goes straight off the block
and down count it for Florida. And that was Fitzpatrick getting the kill.
Almost looked like a block from wherewe're sitting, but must not have been
able to penetrate that hit. Yeah, it does look like a from we're
sitting eight six Florida. It's gottalisten for the crowd. I guess pass
(19:03):
off to the right, Hammel onthe run from out of bounds, a
bump set all the way to theopposite sideline swing by Franklin on the left
stop there is Smark on four backfour allow a three ball back to Wisconsin.
Here is a swing in the middleby Struck and it's down. So
you were calling for the four kids. Doesn't really matter at this point and
Smart got the kill. Sometimes youjust have to tell them midasaw our second
(19:26):
challenge head Wisconsin not got that pointseven eight seven serving eight Wisconsin down by
one. Here's Sarah Franklin, wheredo you bab use? Serving from zone
one goes down the near sideline handleperfectly by Florida right side Fitzpackrick big smash
and underneath it is MJ. NowTammy takes a swing on the outside stop
(19:48):
by the Gators. They'll bump setit over to Martin on the left and
flying in there to save it isThomas Eilaara back row Franklin off m Kiss.
It popped, dropped over and outspoint to Wisconsin and the Badgers and
Gators tied at eight. In thistop three showed out, so John.
One thing you'll notice a lot fromthe Gator side. They do a lot
of like passing scheming. So they'llstart in one spot right here, they're
(20:11):
set for the past. At thelast second, someone will move into us
a different spot, so watch theirgrow steps in yep, and that serve
goes into the n F by Wisconsin. The Kissick you're referring to kind of
took a slide and a side anda slide step to her left, and
they're what they're doing. They're tryingto give different looks. So when the
server goes back, she sees onething, and then when she throws the
(20:33):
ball, they shift into a differentpattern. Nine eight Florida with the lead.
With the serve goes to Ojo onthe left back hamil I set up.
Here's Franklin with a soft roll andthe Kissick scoops it up. Now
to the left side. It wasan attack by Fitzpatrick. Here come Wisconts
and Thomas I. Laura rolls itdown the line for the kill on the
(20:53):
outside, and we are tied tonine early on. For the first eighteen
points of this one, five ties. As the Badgers are back to serve,
it's Crawford right at Mekissic spins aperfect pass up with Stucky settered up
(21:17):
balls. He sets it over andonto the Badger's side of the court to
give Colorta at ten nine league asa setter, I appreciate that move.
I don't appreciate her doing it tous, but that was that was sneaky
right over Carter poo I, itwas very sneaky. Standing in the middle
of the net for Wisconsin. Here'sMakissic serving from the left back. There
(21:38):
was some middle back of Wisconsin.Hamlet sets it up right side at Zach
that was sprint cross court and it'sgrabbed by the Gators. Now at soft
tap over the block that is FitzpatrickWisconsin scrambling, but they save it.
Free ball to the Gators. Stuckysets middle big wide open shot, but
it was Dixon and it was saved. Now Thomas II Laura on the left,
(22:00):
picked up by the Gators. Dixonagain tips it through the block and
it's pinballed and sent back over byWisconsin. Florida from the lab and it's
gonna be a block by wiscotsin asFitzpatrick got roofed and the Badgers and Gators
are tied once again, and asmearck with authority. I mean there was
no middle there. She said,a solid block, and man, she
(22:21):
took away a lot of court onthat shot. It's awesome. Smereck and
Carter each get a block assist thereten apiece where was Carter? There comes
a serve off the top of thetape by the Badgers. Stucky setting right
side, and there was a toolstock good by Martin. Getting to Martin
(22:41):
the freshman almost for four point sixskills per sent this season. She really
likes that cross court shot. Butshe's been hitting a lot of line tonight,
so I'm wondering if that was partof their their scouting report against US
and now Martin back to serve. Were the Gators lines one right at Franklin
(23:02):
middle attack booth, stop by theGators. Jels at the net booth pushes
it over, picked up by theGators. Fitzpatrick punches at it deep right.
There's Franklin with the stuff. Wisconsinfinds the right side of law.
It's in denied and cover back tothe Badgers. Oh Joe, fuck Seth.
Here's Tammy on the left, grabbedby Florida again Stucky well on the
slide attack Dixon, Sam Wisconsin,US back on that. I don't know
(23:25):
on the ports of floor anyone whatyou see there, Jess. So the
broad took it overhand. She tookthat ball overhand, and the center attacked
it. So when she's in frontof the ten foot line, the center
can attack that ball. She can'tjump an attack. So that's what I
was calling for. They didn't seethat. Bill goes to Stucky. Here's
the serve by Florida. Right sideattack. That is Robinson grabs Ducky sets
(23:52):
left side. It's gonna be blockedback by the Badgers and cover. Now
Martin from the back roll slams hereon point of gil You're thirteen to ten.
Florida back on top by three firstset here at exact tack arena.
That one went off of the platformof Ashbourne on the right back Martin,
(24:15):
now three kills for Florida. Servesdown the far sideline and Thomas Eilark could
pass back to tell me on theleft down the line dogged by Florida.
Fitzpatrick tries to tip up and overthe block and it's saved. Down ball
back to the Gators. Stucky settingright side off of the Badgers and down
for Dixon Anna Dixon transferred from Missouri, averaging almost two kills per set this
(24:45):
season for the third ranked Gators, who now have their largest lead of the
set. It's at four. They'reon a full zep run. That served
hits the pin on the outside byMartin and the Badgers get one back.
It's the third serving error by Floridaof this or set. And now we
get to see stage. Dam Rollthe freshman come in to serve for the
(25:07):
Badgers. She came in on Wednesdaynight against Marquette, played her first match.
Did it in front of seventeen thousandat five serve now a record setting
crowd in Gainesville. She'll come intoo, serve right over the top of
the tape. Stucky on the run, setting to the left, Fitzpatrick with
the tap into the block and cover. Here comes Florida. Here's another attack
(25:30):
by Fitzpatrick and it goes deep andit goes out points to Wisconsin and the
UW trails. Florida buy up asingle point or by two. Rather it's
fourteen twelve. Serving from the leftback, it'll be damn row. She'll
walk up to the endline, tossinto the air. That one going just
(25:52):
some little deep passing the online andit'll be a point to Florida, serving
error by dam Roll and it's fifteento twelve. The Gator lead the Badgers
at the first media time out duringthe first set in Gainesville. Once again,
Florida fifteen Wisconsin twelve. If you'relistening to Wisconsin Badger Volleyball presented by
Goodman's Jewelers, providing sparkle to Madisonfor ninety years, welcome back to Gainsville.
(26:27):
John Oudious and Jessica Williams with you. Fifteen twelve. The Gators lead
the Badgers in this opening set whereWisconsin and Florida have seen, you know,
a little bit of back and forthyear. Gators keep trying to push
this thing out. They've led byas many as four. I believe right
now the stats aren't responding to mytouch, but I will say Florida is
(26:48):
hitting a buck fifty four Wisconsin onesixty seven. What have you noticed the
most out on the court here throughthe first twenty seven points. Well,
I just this is gonna be abattle. These two teams that are undefeated,
two teams that both really scrappy, both really offensive base. So I
mean this is not if you don'tanticipate it to be one team that just
(27:11):
comes out and dominates. You're gonnago back and forth, you're gonna trade
points. And that's kind of whatwe're seeing right now. So yeah,
here's Canand serving from the left backfor Florida. She'll toss into the air
well than the left back at Franklinguides it up front, middle of tack,
bouts down by booth and it's goodfor Carter fifteen thirteen Wisconsin trails by
two. That's something I'd love tosee our middles get more involved because when
(27:36):
you get the middles involved, thenall of a sudden, you can ren
more on the outside because their middlehas to respect our medal. Served by
Oh Joe mckissic. Flips it upto Stuffy, who jumps it down again
for the kill. Uses the lefthand. This time it goes to the
near sideline sixteen thirteen side out toFlorida. And that's something This is when
you know hitters and blockers talk toone another. She's the front row center.
(28:00):
You need to at least try andget hands on that stuck. He
had five kills last year at theCoal Center Classic in the Florida five set
victory. Serve goes at Franklin Askburnsets it left side, Franklin into the
block. It's when we played offthe net for a second before it falls
and Florida gets another one four pointGators lead in the first at seventeen to
thirteen, Annah Dixon will step backto serve six aces this season for Dixon
(28:30):
entering play today, so we'll serveit right to left back. Middle goes
at Damral set goes to the rightside or Robinson big pound over pass Robinson
again to the right front and infalls, Devin delivers the kill. Wisconsin
trails by three Gators seventeen Badger's fourteenAnna. Wisconsin's MJ. Ham will serve
(29:04):
right in front of the student sectionfor Florida, fire it down the line
and grabbed it by the Gators theside and as you can probably tell that
the crowd of action is good forOptimore to the senior from Carrollton, Texas
gives Florida a four point advantage andthe Badger's takeod time out. First set
(29:30):
Florida eighteen Wisconsin fourteen. Back. After this break, you're listening to Wisconsin

with you from Gainesville and the FloridaGators lead the Wisconsin Badgers eighteen to fourteen
in this top three matchup in collegevolleyball final non conference match at the season
for the Badgers. Six ties. Two lead changes so fall in the first
served by Stuckey just sneaks over thetop of the tape. Franklin from the
left side by Florida second block ofthe match, and the Gators have a
(30:22):
five point lead. Late in thefirst slow starts against Florida. That's kind
of been what's happened in the lastthree matches the last three years between these
two teams. Stucky lines one tothe backgirl at dam Roe bumps at Ojo
to the left. That's Franklin triesto cut it. She doesn't wide though,
(30:45):
and now Florida with its largest lead. It's at six and the Gators
are five points away from an openingset. Victory and another time out by
Wisconsin. I was going to say, you know, quick starts by Florida
has sort of been the name ofthe game in the last few matchups so
and the last three specifically twenty fifteenin Austin, Texas in the NCAA Tournament
(31:08):
in the Sweet sixteen Florida got outto a two sets and un lead.
The Badgers would force five but losein the fifth by three. In Omaha
in the COVID season, that wasthe time Wisconsin actually got by Florida in
the first set, thirty to twentyeight. Was that first set score that
one would go five where the Badgerswould get to the final four with a
(31:30):
fifteen twelve win in the fifth set. Last year at the Coal Center,
once again Wisconsin digging themselves a whole. Florida would go up to zip in
that match before Wisconsin forced to fifthand it was Florida coming out on top
by two point being you know,Florida has had Wisconsin's number in two of
the last three matchups between these twoteams, but it's partly due to the
(31:53):
great starts by Florida, but Wisconsinin every single one of them has had
the battle back when they're down Otwo. Yeah, And I mean,
I think this is a simple solution. We need to win the passing game
or right now where they're kind ofdominating on us on their serves, we
need to be able to run themoffense. We're kind of back on our
(32:15):
heels right now, so we needto pass a little better and just be
able to attack. Run, runour offense. Wisconsin's offense oh eighty three
six kills four errors, Florida elevenkills, five hitting errors. They're hitting
two fourteen. This is a Badger'steam coming in number six in the nation
with a three to eleven attack percentagethrough their first eight matches. Here is
(32:37):
Stucky serving six point Florida lead.It goes at Damn Roll swings it up
front to Hamil middle, attack courseby Spreck, pin ball the law and
it's back to the Badgers. Hamilsetting middle, big swipe again by Smreck,
and it's dug back roll left sideoff the block is the Gators attacked
by Victoria. Wisconsin gets into Franklinoff the top of the block save near
(32:59):
the end line. Here it comesFlorida. Here's Victoria left side wide with
her attack attempt that it goes outright toward the Badger's bench. So there's
one down and that's all Wisconsin cando at this point is chip away down
five. We're gonna be seeing somegritty defense on both sides for this whole
match. And you saw that rightthere. MJ. Doug the first ball
(33:19):
and masa a system set by stage. Here's Sarah Franklin to put it in
play for the Badgers and she does. At the left back could ants pass
find Stucky good one splitting the blockwith a big swing as Florida the Badger's
pick it up off the floor.Left side. Thomas E. Lawa,
I'm a Kissick thives and saves itright side tip right there is Wisconsin with
the save those yo bumps at hereis Thomas Lawa a kissic again has a
(33:42):
dig Stucky over to the left. That is Martin and the Badger's grab it.
That's I Thomas Laura off the block, poked over by Florida, pushed
over by Crawford. Here come theGators middle attack. Pushed back back to
Crawford. She'll get it to Hamilwho finds struck on the right side down
the line. Mkissic has it.What a rally to the left. Martin
hits the pit on her attack.Wait, wait, what's the call here?
(34:10):
Watching the replay, doesn't touch thebadger's hands first, I don't think.
So we got to see a challengeI would have I would think on
this one, does it? Smrekwas right there, no challenge, No
challenge. Twenty one fifteen, Florida'sfour points away from a one zip lead.
(34:35):
Here's the serve by Adams. Here'sa whistle a point to Florida.
Double contact called against Wisconsin Gaters startingto run away with the first Florida seven
point lead. Here's Adams tossed intothe air, short served on the left
(34:59):
sideline, fielded by Thomas Eilauer.Middle attacks rack. It's no stop by
Florida. Twenty three fifteen and eightpoint Gators lead. Adams the five nine
junior thirteen aces for Florida this season. Punches it over at Osia over pass.
(35:25):
It's taking care out. I hopethe more in the middle and now
except point Florida. And then whenyou have a back row center, you
can't you know, she can't enterthe plane of that net. So she's
gotta we gotta be able to controlthe ball on our side. M J
(35:45):
can't go up and attack that ball. She has to, you know,
as a back row center. Shecan't. She has to let the middle
on the other side attack that She'sit's so helpless. She's right there.
She's probably fighting the urge to jumpand jousts with oakam Are, but you
can't. Twenty four, fifteen, nine point Florida lead. There comes the
sir. It goes at oshow Hamiltsets to the left, Thomas Eilawa goes
(36:08):
deep and out hitting error ends thefirst and the Gators win it by ten
swenty five to fifteen over number oneWisconsin. We'll take a break to come
back with stet number two. Followingthis break, you're listening to wiscons Volleyball
presented by Goodman's Jewlers Providing Sparkle toMadison for ninety years. Brought to you
(36:34):
by good Month's Jewelers Providing Sparkled toMedicine since nineteen thirty three. Twenty five
fifteen, third ranked Florida tops thenumber one ranked Wisconsin Badgers. In that
opening set time for the Badgers notto back down because the Gators obviously trying
(36:59):
to use the momentum of not onlythe play on the court, but the
fans here at Exactack Arena. Imean, this place is phil There's maybe
a handful of empty seats I seein the corner, but I'm pretty sure
this is going to be a selloutand the most highly attended Florida volleyball match
of all time. So you know, Wisconsin fighting do opponent's kind of at
(37:20):
this point. But it was avery slow first set for the Badgers.
To say the least, you wsix kills, six errors, that's a
zero attack percentage. Florida had thirteenand six. They hit one eighty nine.
And Jesse you talked about the passing, is that kind of the biggest
glaring miss there for Wisconsin in thefirst Well, the passing and the offense
(37:42):
too. I mean, six kills, six errors, it's hard to win
when you hit zero. So butI'm the passing contributed to that. Not
able to run our offense and you'regonna get everyone's best best on the road,
especially in front of a sellout crowd. So here comes Martin serving left
to right, It goes to Franklinin the middle, back Ashburn goes to
(38:06):
booth stop but covering now Ojha withthe bumps act. Here is Tammy's kind
of stumbled a little bit I thinktoward the ball on her approach and hits
it into the nen. Looks likeshe tripped a little bit on the on
that approach. Wasn't able to getany sort of swing at all. Won
nothing Florida to start the second. They won the first by ten. Here's
(38:28):
the serup going at Thomas Ei.Laura Ashburn runs the spide robins in with
a big smash and it goes crosscourt to the near side corner for the
kill. And see and that's whatI'm saying with the offense. I mean,
that's Devin's second attempt in this wholematch. So the fact that,
yeah, we need to get hergoing. She's she's been big for us.
(38:53):
Thomas Laura shelf topswin coming up,goes deep and auto bounce. You
know, Tammy has issues with theserve on Wednesday against Marquette, that one
goes deep and that's another area.According to Associate head coach Brittany Dildin,
one of the keys to the matchwhen I asked her before today was the
(39:15):
serving game for Wisconsin. There comesFlorida. Left rights, Canan going at
Thomas Eylark set in the middle andit's poked over and down by Booth.
So there's Carter getting the kill, the sixth seventh sophomore who had nine kills
against Marquette on Wednesday. Evening. This second set at two a piece,
(39:46):
Julia Ojoe behind the line middle ofthe end line, sent it back row
at the Gators who sent it tothe left side and Fitzpatrick and does not
clear the net point. Two wasWisconsin three two. The Badgers, Oh,
(40:09):
Joe jump toss into the air deepand out and we got so this
error Wisconsin three three. Second set, here's Dixon for Florida. Toss into
(40:31):
the air, goes a Thomas eiLaw on the run, aspurn one handed
set up, Franklin pokes it deepback roll dug while side down for Victoria
from the left. It's Sophia Victoriagetting the kill. The average is just
over two percent this season. Servegoes into the NAT point to Wisconsin.
(41:05):
So the Badgers get a serving errorfrom Florida and we are tied at four
piece. Back and forth between theBadgers and the Gators. At first set
had six ties and two lead changes. We've already got four ties here.
(41:30):
In this one, Serve goes tothe left back of Florida. Stucky then
gets the pass up flock and shegoes to the right side or it's tipped
up and over by Okaalore not seeingGabriel Essex in the match for Florida,
one of the middle blockers for theGators. Not sure, just a game
(41:51):
time decision or whether or not theremight be an injury or some sort,
goes to Thomas Y Laura Badger's attackthe middle. Oh Amas not just stumped
it down, getting the attack rightjust left center of the net. Five
five. Look what happens when wepass very dangerous, yeah, very I
mean Annah running that b gap.She goes right up and one block.
(42:15):
It's almost almost an easy point rightthere. Franklin right to left with her
serve. Here's Stucky off the passto the left side. Martin bangs it
off the block for to kill.So the freshman gives Florida another point and
it's six five the Gators. Floridawon the first set. If you're just
(42:38):
joining us, twenty five to fifteen, and now Florida back to Serve.
Adams goes deep CASCM line. Aserving error by the Gators. That is
number five of the match. Andhere's CC back to serve Caroline Crawford of
(42:59):
Wisconsin. Second set. Badgers needthis second set win to avoid an O
two hole. Crawford puts it inplay to the right, back sliding unserved,
receives the Florida DS. Here's atip on the left side. Badgers
get it to Smereck. She goesat Stuckey, who gets the dig.
Right side attack. That's Martin playedup front by the Badgers. Thomas Ei
(43:22):
Laura rolls under the far side quarterFlorida with the save. Now a high
tip up and over the block byFitzpatrick. Wisconsin underneath it. Here comes
Smereck, tries to swipe off theblock and it does do just that.
It falls to the floor. Wisconsingets the kill and the Badgers lead the
Gators here in the second set.I think it's every middle's dream to be
a center, so we saw alot of digs from the center in this
(43:45):
rotation, so Ceci had a fewopportunities to set. I think she enjoyed
that seven six. Crawford serving tothe back row Florida stuck. He sets
it up left pin and a fastballgoes right. I'll Hammel, it's a
kill by Florida. I think itwas Fitzpatrick on the outside. Now Fitzpatrick
(44:06):
turns down the line and last thatoff. Hamil, the senior transfer from
Penn State, had a career hightwenty two kills against Florida State in the
last Florida victory. That was afive set win for them. Seven each
second set. Sir mckissic into thenet was serving error Florida. Wisconsin back
on top by one. It seemslike a lot of service there, six
(44:35):
six for Florida, four four Wisconsin. Here's Ashburn all ready to see it
up for the Badgers, serving fromthe left back one point Wisconsin lead.
Three passers for Florida. Handled inthe backcourt. Here's Stucky setting swiped by
Fitzpatrick. Wisconsin has it to theleft side. Thomas Ailara swings and gets
(44:55):
it off the block for the kill. So for Timmy back up to zero
now with two kills, two errors, nine to seven Wisconsin. Set number
two. Florida won the first settwenty five to fifteen. Man Ashburn,
(45:16):
who is the all time leader inserving service aces at Wisconsin with one hundred
and sixty seven fires it into theleft back. Here's Stucky's set to the
middle. Underneath it is Ashburn bumpsat Ojo to the outside swing by Robinson,
and it's gonna go down after theinitial did by Florida ten seven and
(45:38):
the batchers had built themselves a threepoint cushion. Can you see how is
he's that's a really hard pass tokind of get the ball is going momentum
to the left side of the cartcourt. It's hard to get that ball
to go back towards where the centeris. So she's doing a really great
job of putting pressure on this pass. Here she goes right at Adams who
passes up front right side attack mark. It's eventually it's gonna fall. So
(46:02):
Kennedy Martin picks up her sixth killof the match and she pulls her team
to within two of Wisconsin. Thatone bounces off the block of Timmy and
then deflects off Ashburn in the backrow. And that was actually a pretty
good touch. And I think lookslike Frank was making a move towards that
ball. Is he just stuck herhands up and an attempt to get it
(46:23):
up in her defense like she's tryingto get that ball up, but just
it's great spot on the court. So Florida is back to serve. It's
Martin, She'll run up to theend line, go down the line.
Wisconsin's out a system left side. That's Timmy off speed shot m kiss It
(46:44):
gobbles it up right side off theblock wood for Dixon who goes off the
batch of blocking out of bounds andFlorida has bolted within one point here in
the second and I mean just alittle sloppy on that block. You see
Carter kind of putting her hands overlike I need to press more not be
used. Here's Thomas ai Lara leftback, serve receipt middle attack bootstop pinball
(47:08):
around by the Badger's now a freeball from Wisconsin to the Gators. Stucky
setting left side, just ticking itto the far side foreigner and it falls.
It's Fitzpatrick again, and Fitzpatrick hasher third kill. It's ten to
ten open in that corner right infront of the Badger's bench. We are
(47:30):
even on a three nothing run byFlorida. Left back. It's Tammy middle
back. It's Franklin right back. It's Osho goes to Franklin pass all the
way to the right sideline, sayBy Aspurn bumps at all the way to
the left. Tammy back pedaling, tries to pop one in, but she
goes wide from boss chord hitting error. Eleven ten Florida on a four nothing
(47:52):
run. We're now taking the leadon Wisconsin. Here's Franklin on serve receive.
Ashburn goes to the left and ThomasEilao with a tip up and over
picked up Martin from the back row. Oh Jell, pancakes save, I'm
(48:14):
in a falls. Florida tacks onanother. It's a five nothing Gaters run
and it's twelve to ten Gaters ontop of the Badger's good effort. There
By Ojo on the left run, diving forward with her right hand to save
it, and then Franklin couldn't popit up on the second ball. Wisconsin
(48:37):
led ten to seven, served outof bounds before this five nothing runs and
the Badgers get one back. SoWisconsin gets one back, stops to five
nothing run and it's Florida twelve,Wisconsin eleven and Sage Damn row back to
(49:00):
serve for the u W. BarrySage from the middle of the end line
goes back row pass off to theleft, saved by Fitzpatrick near the bench
and now a backwards pumping a freeball to Wisconsin. Great served by Sage
one hand set up booth with abig hack into Florida's defense. They have
(49:20):
it. M kissick pump set leftside, Fitzpatrick, Claus court roll,
Wisconsin grabs right side. Robinson sticksone, but it's dog by Florida left
side pick swing into the match, are blocked by Fitzpatrick. Now it's back
to Wisconsin. It was great withthe tip the Kissick with the save.
Stuck you with an a temp savedby Robinson left side. Franklin touches the
block deep picked up by Florida.Mkissick pump set left side, big swing
(49:44):
by Fitzpatrick into the block and it'ssaved. Damn row bumps at oh,
it's gonna be eat tight and itgoes over on the damn row bump set
over and out of bounds and Floridawins a big rally to go up by
two thirteen to eleven. Midway throughthe second top rank, Badgers taking on
number three Florida. This is theseventh meeting all time for Florida in a
(50:06):
top three match up. They're threeand three in the program's history. For
Wisconsin, it's the third meeting everwhere both teams are in the top three
of the rankings. The last timeit happened for Wisconsin twenty sixteen, they
went oh and two against Minnesota, and Florida gets an ace and ace by
(50:28):
Canan as she targets Damro on theright back four dam Rose pass goes down
to the court and Florida has builtitself a three point lead, fourteen to
eleven, a six one run overallby the Gators. Here's Canada serve again.
(50:50):
She'll toss into the air fire andat ows you're in the middle back,
great pass up front to Ashburne Bluthreach to sport Stucky there overpassed Boup
again and it goes off to Floridaover and out point to Wisconsin and I
both gets the kill and that's abig point for the Badgers to pull it
within two as Julio Ojo steps behindthe line to serve pour Oh. The
Badgers three aces on Wednesday night andthe four set victory over Marquette, which
(51:14):
moved Wisconsin to eight and oh thisseason. She talks into the air fire.
One of the back row line drivepast the Stucky right side, up
and over the block, diving savedamn row right side. Robbins sin with
the locket down the line and akill with here's the Badger's six two senior
(51:36):
Devin or Robinson's just over three killsper set this season. She's attacking it
a three thirty five clip. Shepulls Wisconsin to within one. Ojoe goes
at mckissic ted past Stucky, sether up, plate off the net popped
up. There's Franklin going down theline and in Franklin gets the kill.
Stucky is injured for Florida and she'sholding her knee. Stucky the floor set
(52:00):
her is down on the court injured. Didn't see exactly what happened to the
sophomore who was a preseason All SECselection SEC Freshman of the Year last year.
But the trainers out taking a lookat Stucky's knee and this is not
good for Florida. Once again, didn't see exactly the contact of what happened.
(52:21):
But Stucky is going to be helpedup and she is going to limp
off the court. All SEC performerlast season and now we're going to see
how Florida reacts to this adversity.Once again, I don't have access to
(52:45):
a replay, and they're not goingto show a replay here at the arena,
so unfortunately, I'm not going toget a clean look to see exactly
what happened to Stuckey. I'm notsure if our producer back of the studio
(53:08):
happens to have this see exactly whathappened to Stuckey. But Florida loses Stucky
fourteen fourteen. In the second there'sa swing for the block Big Shop by
Victoria, stop by Ojoe set upto Robinson on the right, into the
(53:30):
block covered by Wisconsin. Now askburnsets to the inside left on the line,
it's Franklin and here come the Gators. No, they can't get it
over on that second attempt, andwe've got a time out on the court.
Fifteen fourteen. Wisconsin takes the leadover Florida, time out on the
floor. In the second set, once again, it's the Badger's fifteen the
(53:52):
Gators fourteen. We'll be back afterthis break. You're listening to Wisconsin Badger
Volleyball presented by Goodman Jewelers, providingSparkled the manazine for ninety years, brought
to you by Good Month's Jewelers, providing sparkled to medicine since nineteen thirty three.
(54:21):
Welcome back to Gatesville, Florida,John Audios within new fifteen fourteen the
Badger's lead Florida in the second set. Gators won the first set by a
score of twenty five to fifteen.Once again part of the storyline. Here
Florida without its starting setter Alexis Stuckey, who limped off the court with a
(54:42):
knee injury a couple of points ago. Here's Ojoe survey and now the new
center for Florida movie Kennedy Muff hitsit over to to Victoria on the left
and Victoria gets the kill. SoMuff is a transfer from Flagler College.
(55:04):
Muff from Kenosha, Wisconsin. Nowhows to direct this Gators offense. Serve
Florida right at Dama in the middle. Back Robinson soft tap up and over
the block popped up by the Gatorsdefense repside down the line those Joe con
for Victoria. These two battling nowin the second set. Top rank Wisconsin,
(55:25):
third ranked Florida, and it's asixteen fifteen. Gators lead now and
set number two here's Florida to serve. Dixon goes at DAMA. Think it's
(55:46):
an as you got the attendance numberhere at Exactach Arena. It is a
sellout. And then some time outat Wisconsin seventeen fifteen Florida after the Dickson
ace and the Gators lead by twopath the midway point of the third,
(56:07):
I'll have that record setting attendance numberfor you after this time out once again,
Gators seventeen Badger's fifteen Florida up onezip in the match. You're listening
to Wisconsin Badger Volleyball, presented byGoodman's Steelers, providing Sparkle to Madison for
ninety years. This is Wisconsin Volleyball, brought to you by good Mun's Jewelers,
(56:28):
Madison's Diamond Store, and a wholelot more. The street of eighteen
fifteen. Florida leads Wisconsin second sethere at Exectack Arena in a record setting
crowd for Florida ten thousand, threehundred twenty three fans watching this one.
(56:51):
As Frank Wentz pass goes off tothe right sideline bump set back to frank
on the left dog setter dump endof the nets by the new setter,
Muff And that's an attack error. And the reason I say the new center,
that's because starting center Alexis Stuckey wentdown with a knee injury. According
to the Twitter account of Michael McClearyfrom Badger's Extra, it looked like it
(57:13):
was non contact. I don't havethe benefit of a television replay, he
writes. That was tough to watch. Stucky comes down awkwardly on the right
leg and was helped to the lockerroom. So now it's the transfer once
again from Flagler College Muff backsetting rightside to Buck fin Olmer Okamar gets to
kill Florida eighteen Wisconsin sixteen. Herein the second there comes to serve.
(57:49):
He goes there, Franklin left back, damn row there there on the end
line of the buffs at Franklin goesand gets it stopped and covered by Wisconsin
to the right side. Swaying goesdown for Crawford Film Movies from Caroline Crawford
pulls Wisconsin two within one and whatis turning out to be a must win
second set for the UW Florida wonthe first set by ten, see if
(58:12):
the Badgers can even it up ata set of pieces, we had to
the break Florida fans with their flashlightson behind, you know, in in
the path of the Badger's servers. And I'm not sure if that's exactly something
you're allowed to do, Jess. When you take a look at Florida,
they've got the flashlights now. Imean, I guess they're not doing it
(58:35):
when she serves, but they shouldn'tbe allowed to do that. Yeah,
I think that's probably what they're communicatingright now there it is. They can't
do that very quick. Where's Franklinserving right to left? Goes to the
(58:58):
left back of Florida must left sidetipped. That is Martin Badger's grab it.
And I've all had an involve againstso show and she tried to set
nineteen seventeen Florida getting late now andset number two between the Gators and the
Badgers, Wisconsin hitting one thirty onein the set, Florida hitting two fifty
(59:25):
eight overall, Gators three forty I'msorry that was overall in the set Florida
three forty six, Wisconsin two eightysix. There's an off speed shop by
Crawford on the right, Doug byFlorida Martin into the block at Thomas Eilawa
and it's an overpass back to theBadgers Camel quick set. Smerek hits the
block in its a back row.Florida tries the left side, there's Smereck
(59:45):
smashing it back with the right hand. There's a joust, and then Smrek
takes care of it again with abig ride hand. Remember she had a
season high and killed fifteen of themWednesday against Marquette, and she pulls Wisconsin
too. Within one. Proffert sauntersback behind the online to serve for the
Badgers. Big serves coming up herefor CC from the left back. She
(01:00:08):
goes to the corner field it onserve received decent pass. Muff sets to
the light. That's Martin, that'snot Bawford, and it falls down past
the online as Franklits lies about eightyd on this terra flex port trying to
go after that one. Florida attwenty Wisconsin eighteen and the Gators are five
(01:00:28):
points away from going up to zipon the number one team in the nation.
It was a fourteen fourteen score whenStucky went down and Florida on a
six four run sets the injury onceagain, I believe it to be a
(01:00:52):
non contact injury. Didn't see itin real time, do not have access
to a replot. Here's mckissi off, Franklin off to the right, bad
pass, I mean, Thomas swingsinto the block. Martin got our paws
all over that. Florida's up bythree and the Badgers take their second and
(01:01:19):
final time out of the set twentyone eighteen as Florida has I believe what
is its largest lead of this secondset, and then this one just so
crucial for Wisconsin to see if theycan ship away from the deficit right now,
not only to get back into thismatch and avoid going down O two,
(01:01:42):
but to you know, Florida's playingwith its backup center at this point.
Yeah, and I mean, thisisn't what we scouted, but we've
watched enough of this team to knowthat they're going to will their team to
win. It may not be theirtheir number one setter, but you can
guarantee that their backup is is stillreally good and that they're not gonna give
(01:02:06):
up. They're not gonna stop fighting. And there are times when it when
an injured teammate goes down and theneveryone rallies because of that, you know,
they do it for the injured player. So I think that's kind of
what we're seeing right now. Teammatesstep up for maybe what's happening on their
side of the court. But Ithink we need to take care of our
side. It's just it's just beenreally sloppy the passing. The there's been
(01:02:30):
I mean, I ran to thebus to go get some sandwiches, but
what I just saw that I wasjust sloppy play on our side and kind
of missing dig opportunities. Balls thatshould be pretty manageable that we're making look
really hard. So I think weneed to clean up our side of the
(01:02:50):
net, worry about our side, and I think the match will take care
of itself. Florida matching its largestlead of the second set, and since
the injury to Stucky, the Gatorshave outscored the Badgers seven to four.
Here's mckissic. The Florida liberrow toserve toss into the air, goes to
(01:03:19):
the left back at Timmy pass behindher to the end line. Osa with
the bump said over to the leftback to Thomas law right, you know
the block and cover. Wisconsin triesthe right. There's Anna with the kill
to the Smart of the smack andthen the Badgers get one back from twenty
one nineteen And that was a goodcover by Temmy. She covered her own
shot there, able to move theball around a little bit, go from
the left pin to the right pinin that middle. Was late on that
(01:03:42):
attack or on that block, soable to get help Smart get that kill.
Where's asked her? Serving from zonefive goes deep back row to Florida
right side attack. Martin up andover the block off Franklin. She saved
it and now backwards bump. Ibelieve that was by Ojo in a free
ball middle attack swing stop by theBadgers. Thomas Ai Lara swipes off the
block picked up by muff at firstand now Martin foxes it down the line
(01:04:08):
for the kill. Martin with theirninth kill and Lurida has taken a twenty
two to nineteen League second set. Here at Exactac Arena ten thousand, three
hundred twenty three fans watching this topthree matchup number three Florida, number one
(01:04:28):
Wisconsin and the Badgers need to fightoff the gators here down the stretch if
they want to get even at aset of piece heading into the break,
there comes Martin Field good by Franklin, decent pass up front, little attack
booth. There's a chouse that's pushedback by Carter called four by Florida.
(01:04:50):
Sep goes to the raft on abump set. Franklin with the dig set
right side, Robinson deeps twenty threenineteen gators and they're two away from going
up to zip. Here's Martin readyto go left or right one more time
(01:05:16):
down the line. That one mighthave been headed out of bounds, picked
up by Thomas Ler back to Tammygoes down the line, sliding in.
At the stop, there's Florida andthen Booth. Almost a standing rejection on
the shop by Fitzpatrick on the outside. She just reached up and threw it
back down twenty three twenty but Wisconsinhas to be nearly perfect. Down the
(01:05:41):
stretch, a solo block by CarterBooth. Here's damn Roll tossed into the
air. Go to the middle backat mckissic spins the pass up front to
mom upside a big block five buckymyoutside, I'd stopping the attack and it's
twenty three twenty one time Al FloridaLuthan Robinson team up on Fitzpatrick on the
(01:06:08):
left pin and the Badgers find themselvesdown by two twenty three twenty one.
We've seen Wisconsin come, you know, when you know it's red zone time,
when it's winning time. Wisconsin hashad some success early this season.
Most recently you can think back toMarquette, Yeah, when they go on
a fourth day at five nothing runon Wednesday in the third set, which
(01:06:29):
was probably the turning point of thatnatch. The Badgers were able to beat
the Golden Eagles in four. Andit's gonna take you saw it in Arkansas
and that first match up against theRazorbacks that they won in five, and
it's probably gonna take something like thatto appoint that O two hole. Honestly,
I think that's characteristic of our teamto push at the end of these
sets. I think you think backto the National Championship Game Set two against
(01:06:51):
Nebraska, we were down and downbut not out, and you know,
we remain, we fight, weremain in the game, and we're just
gritty, you know. So that'sthat's kind of what we're facing. Right
now down too from let me againstFlorida, and this is these are the
(01:07:12):
moments, These are the moments youplay for, and this is when you
have to be perfect. Florida outhitting the Badgers overall in this match so
far two twenty five. Their attackpercentage Wisconsin come then, like I said,
top ten in the country and attackpercentage at three eleven, hitting one
thirteen so far with eighteen kills andten hitting errors. Florida does have four
(01:07:33):
blocks, so six unforced attack errorsoverall by Wisconsin, beating attacker for Florida.
Martin has nine for the Badgers. Some Wreck has five which is one
hitting error. Robinson four with justone hitting error, Boot three with no
hitting errors the majority of the tenerrors by the way from Thomas, Laura
(01:07:56):
and Franklin four for teny three forSarah. I think that just shows we
gotta get our medals and our rightsides involved. We gotta keep beating them
balls, all right. So followingthe four at a time out, twenty
three twenty one Gators on top inthe second they won the first set by
ten, and now the second refereetalking to the media who are lined up
(01:08:23):
on the near side in front ofthe scorer's table. I've never seen media
lined up in front of a scorer'stable where they've jammed as many people as
they can into this arena here today, including media. He just told him
he couldn't use a tripod from fromwhere he's sitting. Damn roll goes in
the middle back mckissicks pass the backrow down the line. Shot by Dixon.
(01:08:46):
Saved by Wisconsin. Here is Franklinoff the top of the blocket.
It's saved Florida choost Ruth whistle plotwis scottsin and a violation I believe against
Muff the setter. Mary's gonna gofor the card. What Mary wise,
(01:09:09):
we'll use the challenge card first challengeused by Florida in this match. And
I find it interesting that was theupbreath that called that. So usually it's
the down official's job to keep aneye on the net, keep an eye
on the on the tape there,so the fact that it was the up
(01:09:31):
official, I'm sorry, I'm tryingto watch. The down official has gone
to the sideline like I'm not surewhat. Oh, there he goes.
They got it. Oh, yep, there she was right. Look at
there's the there it is ready armYEP got it right into the net.
So Florida's gonna lose the challenge,YEP should be too much longer until they
(01:09:53):
make an official and there it is. Florida has one challenge remaining. Big
point for the Badgers. It isa net elation against the news center Muff
who entered after SEC all SEC playerAlexa Stucky went down with what appears to
be a very serious knee injury.Where's Damn Row Let's settings in down one?
(01:10:15):
They need it deepen out set pointFlorida twenty four twenty two. Gotta
be perfect now, command will serveleft or right for the Gators. Franklin
(01:10:38):
left back, Ojo middle back DamnRoll on the right back are waiting to
serve. By Florida. Here comesCananda goes right at dam row great high
past at Asbourne proof into the block. She got rejected and a Florida block
ends the second set twenty five twentytwo and the third rank Gators lead the
(01:10:59):
number one Atchers two sets and none. Twenty five twenty two. Florida at
the break, we'll take a timeout and when we come back, intermission
time, intermission, interview time, with Carter Booth. That comes your way
in sixty seconds. You're listening toWisconsin Badger Volleyball, presented by Goodman's Jewelers
(01:11:23):
providing Sparkle the Madison for ninety yearson the Edger Sports Network. This is
Edger Volleyball. He's time for yourEder Volleyball intermission reports. Here is the
voice the Edger Volleyball, John Odiousat the intermission, third ranked Florida Elites,
(01:11:47):
top ranked Wisconsin two sets and none, twenty five fifteen in the first,
twenty five, twenty two in thesecond set. Time for the intermission
interview and earlier today, I caughtup with Wisconsin's Carter Booth and I asked
her what it's been like to playfive ranked teams you're in the non conference.
I mean, yeah, it's agreat competition. It's obviously a privilege
and a blessing to be able toplay such great teams before we get into
(01:12:09):
conference, because it really battle testsus. Kelly mentioned in a meeting the
other day, like it builds calluseson us so that we're better equipped to
handle tough moments when we're getting intoconference. So yeah, I mean,
I'm really grateful. It's been aprivilege, in an honor to play all
these teams. I'm excited for thegame. Speaking of moments, there are
moments on the court where perhaps youknow, the defense of the offense kind
(01:12:32):
of bark at each other through thenet opponents wise, So what is the
talk like there? What is thatlike when when there's a little back and
forth. I mean, we're nevergetting into back and forth, you know,
I think that takes away from what'sreally important, which is the game.
But you know, if somebody makesa good play, yeah, you're
(01:12:53):
gonna get hyped. You're gonna say, just like, let's go through the
net. But it's never anything beyondthat or anything malicious, because that's just
not what we're here for. Youknow, we're here to play, and
if we're getting excited, then that'sfine, but we contain it to that
moment. It doesn't then drag onto become something bigger than it needs to
be, because it's just unnecessary.Talking with Carter Booth here at the break,
(01:13:15):
rapid fire time, you're ready, favorite athlete, I don't even know
that question. My brother probably okay, very good. What position would you
play if you weren't a middle blockor if you could pick another position,
setter, why it just seems funand just like being the QB on the
court would be fun. Just runningeverything well, I guess I'm like already
(01:13:35):
the QB of the net, butbe in the QB of the whole court
would be fun. Foul question. What's your favorite part or aspect I should
say of Madison? Probably the lake. I really like the water and just
being able to go out and likebe in nature. I guess, be
outside somewhere. But other than that, all the restaurants and just the nightlife
(01:13:56):
and everything are just it's just amazing. There you go. That's Carter Booth
here at the break. We're tokeep it right here a little bit of
a different intermission length time, sowe're just going to move the scheduled break
till later here in set number three, John Audious, Jessica Williams with you
all right, jess Wisconsin down,oh two? What needs to happen the
rest away for the Badgers to avoidlosing their first match of the season.
(01:14:20):
We got a combination of things.I think the passing. The passing has
to get better so we can runour offense. Right now, we're looking
a little discombobulated on our side, and we're kind of just letting Florida do
their thing. So we need tokind of get off of the defense and
go on the attack. Really justplay our game instead of letting them dictate
(01:14:45):
what's what's happening here. So lovesto see some more setting to the middles
and the right sides and just kindof take over this game. And now
it's gonna be really up to Floridaif you look at from their perspective to
their backupset or muff to run thisoffense. She set down to Martin,
who goes wide and appoint to Wisconsinto start the third set. After an
(01:15:06):
attack error by Kennedy Martin of Florida, Alexa Stucky, the setter for Florida,
injured in that second set with aknee injury. Here is Hamil toss
into the air, goes to theback row of Florida. Perfect pass up
(01:15:29):
front to the left side, getpiles down there. Fitzpatcher cross court kill
even at one. Florida hitting twohundred in this match, Wisconsin hitting oh
ninety six. The batchers, ledby Anna Sprecks five kills nine for Martin.
(01:15:50):
She's back to serve for the GatorsBangers. Three passers awaiting. This
one goes at Ojo on the rightback. Hamil tracks it, sets it
left side. There's Franklin, gotthe touch, got the kill, Sarah.
Franklin goes class court to the nearside corner. That's big to see
her get going. Franklin. Nowthree kills, three errors. It's gotta
(01:16:12):
be a team effort. They're gonnaneed frank everybody. Seven of the eleven
hitting errors by Franklin and Thomas Eilaaraof Wisconsin. Here's the right side Dixon
attack offo shows she popped it up, say past the inline by Franklin,
and a bump that goes over toTammy who rolls it over and down Annette
(01:16:34):
violation against Florida. So even thoughtechnically it's the net violation, I mean
Tammy had that one drop down.So it's good to see Franklin and Thomas
Eilaara start to maybe turn this aroundoffensively. Yep, and that was a
very oddest system. Ball that ballspass off the court high and Tammy was
able to terminate. Franklin goes tothe middle back. There's a jous Thomas
(01:16:58):
meaning muff It's back over, there'sCrawford. It's an overpass back to the
batchers again, Hamil setting right sidesmrack, huge smash and it's dug into
the backcourt. Five four to downthe line. It's Patrick passes it good
new sideline kill. Fitz Patrick nowup to five kills, five errors and
it's three two. The batcher's leadat one. I gotta win out the
rest of the way if they wantto remain unbeaten this season. There's Canan
(01:17:27):
five eights softcore to serve. It'sdangerous beyond the line, had four straight
service aces and the match against Stanfordthis season to toss into the air fire
one at ohs, y'all pushes itup front, decent pass, Hamil gets
in the middle, there's Smrek whodrops it down to the right front and
four two Wisconsin early lead, thirdset, and I love when Screck is
(01:17:49):
able to go up and just havethese massive kills. But sometimes the piss
play is just finding an open spoton the car. That was kind of
a soft tip to to the rightsideline, but it's effective served Crawford line
drive, Pats drops down to thecourt at ace or CC. Love to
(01:18:10):
see them stringing points together. Notjust on the offense, but also at
the service line. So this isthis is a great start to this set.
I hope this keeps going. Ilove to see some momentum building here.
On the second ace of the yearfor Crawford goes at Canan. Here's
a set to the left side anda block by Smreck gives Wisconsin another point.
(01:18:30):
That was Victoria right into that massiveblock six two. So that was
a really good read by Smrek. The ball kind of died inside about five
feet and she was able to stop, get set and just really press and
get that block into the net orthat served by Crawford tried a little bit
more pace behind it. It seemedsix three side out to Florida as Dixon
(01:18:54):
steps back to serve. Dixon withthree aces in this match, three of
the four from Florida. She's beendealing. She'll toss in certain things.
Zone one goes to the left backend, Franklin back set right side and
a big wind up that I whisstill stops play and where's the call there?
(01:19:20):
It was a net violation on Victoria, okay, and she didn't argue
a lot of the times you'll seethem say no, no, no,
I wasn't in the net or butI mean immediately she doesn't say anything,
so I would have suited guilts atthat point seven three Wisconsin after the net
call against the Gators, must winthird set for the Badgers. This one
(01:19:41):
fired in a can and spinning passoff to the right side, or is
a net violation against the setter muffas she went up and tried to turn
on that tight pass and dump itdown and well into the net for her
second net call and a quick timeI'll buy Florida. It's a five point
lead for the BA Badgers in thethird eight three Wisconsin, and we'll take
(01:20:02):
a break. You're listening to WisconsinBadger Volleyball presented by Goodman's Jewelers, providing
Sparkle the Madison for ninety years.Welcome back to Wisconsin Badgers Volleyball presented by
good Mun's Jewelers, A destination worthreaching at two twenty State Street, Goodman's
Jewelers dot Com. Badgers are downzero two to third ranked Florida. Third
(01:20:30):
set here in Gainesville. Record settingcrowd for the Gators, a school record
ten thousand, three twenty three havefilled up Exact Tech Arena to its capacity,
but the Badgers starting out strong inthe third. It's Wisconsin eight four
to three and the all time leaderin career aces at the u W serving
(01:20:54):
for the Badgers. Now on awiggly one to the back row. There's
Asper. Here's a tip ulver byMartin, kept off the flour by Wisconsin.
It's near the net. Big swingby Timmy and it's gonna work point
Wisconsin. A kill by Thomas aLaura. It's nine three, Bucky,
just keep it going, keep itgoing. I love the pressure that is
(01:21:15):
he's putting on these passers for Florida. I love to see this. Just
keep going, push points, pushpoints, six point Badger's lead. This
one right into the nets. Fivepoint Wisconsin lead. And this is the
setter from Kenosha. Kennedy Muff, she's a grad transfer played at Flagler College.
(01:21:44):
Serves it right to left at Franklin. Great pass up front, Robinson
on the slide, got it offbull cross court. Kill by Robinson,
who's having a great match so farwith five kills in one error. Solid
match from her ten four back upto a six point lead, and we
got gig in for tena to serve. So i'd love to see this lefty
(01:22:09):
serf. We's tuck In standing inthe middle of the in line, basically
toss into the air floats at background. Mkissic has muff on the run bump
set all the way out of bouncesor they get it over on the third
ball. They do not. Itwas all the way out of bounds on
the sideline and Martin did everything shecould to try to bring it back over
the net eleven four. So forGigi, that's an ace. Hey,
(01:22:38):
I believe we'll see Arison pass offto the right, chased down from the
scorer's table. Bad set it wascalled. That's anyway. Here's Robinston on
the right side down the line. The Kissick picked up more missions into the
up with this shelf sliding in.Mkissic. We had a ball hand laid
error called against Florida, and nowthese points just are starting to pile up.
(01:23:02):
It's an eight point lead. Yeah, I love to see it,
and I U see the Badger benchkind of and I also got a little
and I don't know, you're tryingto call that play. You're hoping the
official calls the game even later.I'm these touch calls. This one zips
just over the top of the tapeby Gigi Martin into that Badger's block back
to Florida and shoved over by Mekissickon a free ball Asburn sets middle,
(01:23:27):
hit out of the way cutter andBoot passes it down for the kill.
Who thirteen to four fucky third set. How about a four nothing run now
Wisconsin hitting seven seventy eight in thethird Florida minus one eleven. Gootsticking goes
(01:23:49):
to Mekissic, spins a short pass, forces of bumps at Martin on the
left, off the block saved byGigi. Right side, Robinson got it,
got it touched up front, killnumber six for Devin fourteen to four,
ten point badger's lead now and Ithink the play on that was Gigi's
read and the left fact. Ithink that was a great day by her,
(01:24:12):
able to keep up the ball upand in play and able to run
her offense. Get that ball toDevon on the right side. There's gig
serving back rope canal now middle attack, big swing up for Robinson, count
it for Martin who swings from themiddle of the net. She's now reached
double figures with ten kills. Butthe Badgers do have a very commanding lead
(01:24:34):
right now. In the third it'sfourteen five, and I'd love to see
what would happen if Carter was straightup on that block. I'd love to
see what if she could press herhands over that. I think that's a
really good block. But by notpressing her hands were used on that on
that kill eight and oh, Floridaeight in ol Wisconsin. Adams with the
serve. Here comes the Badger's offense, Franklin from the left, and she'd
(01:24:56):
get a touch. It went wellwide. It was no there was no
touch point Florida hitting error Franklin fourteensix. And that's an aggressive swing.
You know, she's probably trying tohit hands there. The block might have
moved it at the last second, but yeah, that's what good hitters do.
They try and test the test theblock. Here's Adams putting it out
of bounce on her serve. It'schecking and scooted out of the way of
(01:25:18):
that one in the back row.Fifteen six. Back to the Badgers and
Ojo steps back to serve. Floridawon the first two sets, to win
the third, serving to the rightback on the run, muffed setting left
(01:25:40):
side Fitzpatrick. The tip goes downinside the ten foot line up and over
the block for Fitzpatrick fifteen seven backto Florida. This perfectly plays. It
did catch the hands at Crawford onthe way down. And here is mckissic
(01:26:03):
last season sixteen, digs in anace at the Coal Center classic, this
one to the far side corner, fielded by the Badgers. Right side,
Robinson winds up into the block, popped up by oishell set again. Robin's
in right side swipes into the block, grabbed by the Gators defense. Here's
the left side attack. Fitzpatrick slidingin with the staff is Gigi right side
Robinson again and it falls. Buta ball handling error on this sect to
(01:26:27):
demon point Florida fifteen to nine, second fifteen to eight. And you want
to try, I mean, she'sas he's trying to get the ball to
Devon. Devon's hot right now,but you can't compromise the set for trying
to get the ball. Who youneed to go outside. We'll kiss it
to the left back who's tacking ona perfect pass. Robinson goes live.
(01:26:51):
Florida's starting to get some momentum, trailing by the Badgers are led by as
many as ten. Time out Wisconsinmidway through the third and what is a
must win for the number one Badgers. It's Wisconsin fifteen Florida nine. Back
(01:27:11):
after this time out. You're listeningto Wisconsin Badger Volleyball presented by Goodman's Jewelers,
providing sparkle to Madison for ninety years. Welcome back to Wisconsin Badgers Volleyball
presented by good Mun's Jewelers. Adestination worth reaching at two twenty State Street,
(01:27:31):
Goodman's Jewelers dot Com. Back inthe swamp, Gainesville, Florida fifteen
nine. Wisconsin leads the Florida Gatorshere in the third three nothing run though
by Florida. Let's pulled them backa little bit into this one Gators looking
(01:27:56):
for this sweep. Wisconsin needs topush it to five today. And following
the Badger's time out, here's mkissickto serve. So to see it up
and dropping down in front of Goodscheck in bourn Ace and that's a that's
a great ball. I mean,that's that's a perfectly placed serve and we
(01:28:20):
have the best angle. You couldjust see that ball moving and shaking and
just died in the in the air. Over there, we're kissick tossed under
the air this one at Franklin scoopsit up front to ask for upside back
to Franklin, goes down the line, got the block to and got the
kill sixteen to ten, Wisconsin overFlorida. And I love that frank frank
(01:28:45):
passed that ball and she was downon the ground doing it, so she's
able to get up and transition,or I guess she's not really transitioning,
but she's uh, she's passed twoattack on that ball, so she's up
and she's she's getting up on thatattack. Here's Ammal fires it into the
(01:29:06):
near side corner, grabbed a mkissicon a great pass which Patrick up and
over the block and in that violationagainst Wiscots and gets floor to the point.
Badger's lead, which wasn't ten atone point in the set, is
down to five. Wipe up theBadger's side of the court and we're about
(01:29:38):
ready to get going. Where isthe serve at boots tech In On the
run, Hammel clings it out tothe left, big blood space there in
between the block by Franklin, butit's dug back over to the Badgers.
Now Franklin again on the left, touches the blocket. It falls, falls,
(01:30:00):
killing drops inside and the ten footline. Franklin gets it. The
Badger's lead seventeen to eleven. Geisoff the car. I love the three
rotations that Gigi was in there. She brought energy. I thought she was
solid in the left back there playingdefense and keeping us in this. I
need to push some points. Franklinserving from the middle of the end line
(01:30:23):
to the back row at Adams mopssetting right side hide tip by Dixon,
Wisconsin right there, Tammy from theleft, grabbed in the back row by
Martin. Slide Dixon down seventeen totwelve. Florida battling trailing by five,
getting later and later. In thethird here's Fitzpatrick Men's in a transfer from
(01:30:59):
Penn State jump top Spin goes outWisconsin by six, eighteen to twelve.
Crawford steps back to serve she hasthe only Wisconsin ace today. This one
(01:31:27):
goes to Muff shoots it off tothe left, shot there by the Gators,
grabbed by Wisconsin, scot by Timmy, and it's Doug left side going
down the line is Victoria and it'sin the air sideline kill for Sophia Victoria,
Florida trails by fives. Usually EmersonOil. We'll step in to serve.
(01:32:00):
Now for the Gators, Mary Wise, who's in her thirty third season
as the head coach, will setFranklin Guy ends it up front to hamm
All left side Thomas Alara and itstopped middle Pope there by the Gators saved
by Wisconsin and then goes out attackSmreck on the right, claiming a touch.
(01:32:25):
Will we see a challenge? Yes, we will, Well maybe hold
on. Kelly's got the challenge card. He hasn't officially said anything, now
he will, and I we're gonnahave the second challenge by Wisconsin of this
match. Looks like a challenge onthe block touch right they called the touch.
(01:32:47):
Smrek I think immediately claimed there wasnot a touch. And now we
are going to see whether or notWisconsin can win another challenge. They won
the first challenge earlier in the match, right at the beginning of the match.
If you remember ye right now asit stands eighteen fourteen. If the
(01:33:12):
Badgers get this run right, itcould be nineteen thirteen. So we'll see
what kind of a replay we'll gethere. We have none on the video
board this time. Badgers in thisset a three eighty one hitting percentage,
Florida hitting two Hundred's a smart attackfrom the right. Now, I'm gonna
(01:33:36):
say no, quick look at it. Oh, I could see the call.
He called it a touch. Okay, wow, we saw one quick
replay on a phone. So hardto tell. Hard to tell. We
don't know what they're looking at,but that was very efficient in their viewtime
(01:34:00):
nineteen thirteen. Wisconsin wins the challenge. It's the second one of the match
and that's huge. It gives theBadgers a six point lead. As Burn
(01:34:20):
serves it deep to the back row, Muff sets it left side. Victoria
got a touch. O Joe poppedit up. Franklin bump set roll shot
Thomas ailaa Dow went over passed tenagain and she'll pop it cross court for
the kill. Wisconsin has reached thered zone twenty to thirteen, and the
Badgers are five points away from theirfirst victory in any set. Here today,
(01:34:49):
serving from the left back is Izzy, so rifle it in on the
run is Muff setting to the right. That's Essex with the tip ball.
Back to Florida after the Badger's dopedit and us it's times it for the
kill. I'm sorry, that's okamar. Excuse me, okamar with the kill
(01:35:14):
twenty to fourteen. Wisconsin's leaders atsix the backup setter Kennedy muff In for
the injured Stucky backpedaling passed on agreat one by Franklin. Wept side uh
for Thomas Eilar twenty one fourteen. The Badgers are four away and Goods techn
(01:35:45):
will serve Gigi deep and out fourtwenty one fifteen. Badger's still in control
(01:36:08):
here in the third Adams will stepback. It's eat it up for Florida.
Off the top of the tape.Ruth right there to save it at
the ten foot fine Franklin stop theblock for the cross. Sarah Franklin fired
(01:36:32):
up after her sixth kill twenty twoto fifteen. Ten thousand, three hundred
and twenty three fans, it's alreadyget allowed now and we'll share that service
(01:36:54):
error into the middle of the netby Wisconsin. That's two misserves in a
row, so not exactly what youwant to see to close out the end
of the set, but I hopeyou can turn this around and get a
pass stick the pass run the offense. First it was Goods tech In,
then it was Ojo, here's McKissickoff. Gg Line drives it to Robinson,
(01:37:18):
down ball Franklin, Florida Well bumpsat it to the right side,
Martin pushed back by Wisconsin. Martinpushes it to the corner and gets called
from the double contact holds point tothe Badgers, and now Wisconsin's two away
from a third set win a timeoff by Florida. Twenty three sixteen.
(01:37:47):
Wisconsin leads the Gators and the thirdset in what is a must win for
the Badgers, and I believe we'regonna take one more break, one more
breakup coming? Is that correct?Twenty three to sixteen Wisconsin. In the
third Florida leads two sets and onein the match. You're listening to Wisconsin
Badger Volleyball presented by Goodman's Jewelers, providing Sparkle to Madison for ninety years.
(01:38:13):
This is Wisconsin Volleyball, brought toyou by good Mun's Jewelers, Madison's Diamond
Store, and a whole lot more. She had a lie, I'm kidding
Daddy all the time, and shotand Jeff J. Williams with you from
Exact Tech Arena in Gainesville, twentythree sixteen. The Badger's lead the Gators
in the third set. Florida wonthe first two sets here today, but
(01:38:35):
in this one the Badger's offense churningout a five hundred attack percentage, Florida
hitting one sixty. So the Bachershave sprung to life here in the third
two away from getting to a fourth, Hammel votes it to the back roll
over passing. Crawford throws over thenet and a point to Florida. MJ.
(01:39:03):
Hamill as a conversation now with theupperficial charm to figure out what's going
on on that one. This isthe disadvantage of our our spot because you
really can't see on the net ifthat was if she was over or not.
I thought it was clean. I'mpro setter even so, Gg service
great high pass up front to Hamile. The smart attacks in the middle.
(01:39:26):
Martin has the dig Florida from theleft, Pin pulls back out off the
Badger blocks punt it for Fitzpatrick.Florida pulls to within five. I was
close. Let's see that lets theend line. They stopped the replay stop
that replay, and I guess thatthat was close. Then second decision by
(01:39:56):
the the crew in charge of thebig screen might not want to show that
one. Wisconsin still two points awayin command with a five point lead and
a must win. Third set into gig in the back row and a
nasty served by Martin. Wisconsin findsFranklin with a roll shot down the far
sideline crowd by Florida. Fitzpatrick touchesthe batchelor block and it's pushed back.
(01:40:19):
There comes Florida from the right sideoff put back the block and the falls
twenty three to nineteen. It wasDixon getting the kill. Here's Martin serving
(01:40:43):
from the right back goes at Goodstech in decent passed a hamil left Panda
Conklin, SOI pots it down forset point twenty four to nineteen. Cross
court kill for frank Settle Moore Man. There's Franklin to serve students getting out
(01:41:06):
on set point number one twenty fournineteen to put it in play to the
back row at Adams Muff sets thepipe Martin big Tom and it's dog by
Franklin side to Tenna. We checkedit. She got Rod fourn and hanging
(01:41:30):
around out town. Fourth he coomesFitzpatrick to serve Cloud, goes quiet jump
Topspin, coming up shows at Franklintype pass, Hello is Internet? Oh
(01:41:57):
do you think? So what happened? Let's take a look. So this
is what's annoying is the there wasjust a play a few plays ago where
we were called when CC was overthe net where they called an over on
us, and that one was theexact same play. It looks like the
exact same play, and they callMJ on a back row attack. So
(01:42:20):
this is where you hope the officiatingcrew is calling an even match where they're
you know, they're they're calling itthe same for both teams, and sometimes
there's a home court advantage and thismight be one of those times. Time
out Wisconsin. So yeah, fromour view, once again, run in
the end line view, tough totell exactly what happened. It was Dixon
(01:42:41):
who win up on that pass thatwas tight at the net, and they
call Hamilton with a back row becauseDixon. You're saying, Dixon reached over,
just like they called against Cromford.Yeah, it looked from our from
our angle, it looked like MJwent to set that ball and then the
mid over from Florida reached over totry and hit it, and instead of
(01:43:03):
calling a back or calling an overthe net reach call, they called MJ
on a on a backgrow attack, even though m did not jump, which
now that was that would be abackgrould attack or a backrow blocks. So
so as it stands now, Floridagets the call. The Badger's lead is
(01:43:26):
down to three. The sellout crowdis starting to get loud one more time,
but luckily there's a thin cushion herefor the Badgers twenty four twenty one
as they try to put away Floridaagain in the third second set point upcoming
for the UW. Fitz Patrick hasthat jump topspin serve. She's ready to
(01:44:12):
unload here following the Badger's time out. And I should say I believe this
is set point number three. Ithink I said two. Fitz Patrick took
a little bit off of it,picked up by the Badger's Handbo sets at
(01:44:33):
the right side high tip. It'sgonna fall down by Smereck and that'll end
a third five twenty one Wisconsin whogets that one and the Badgers and Gators
will go to set number four withthird ranked Florida on top two sets to
one in this top three matchup inGainesville. You're listening to Wisconsin Badger Volleyball
(01:44:57):
presented by Goodman Schoolers, providing Sparkleto Madison for ninety years. Welcome back
to Wisconsin Badger's volley Bowl presented bygood Mun's Jewelers, a destination worth reaching
at two twenty State Street, goodMun's Jewelers dot Com. Jessica Williams with
(01:45:29):
you. Wisconsin gets the third twentyfive twenty one hit four h six in
the set limited Florida to a twoo seven attack percentage. But you know,
they came out so strong. Theylet Florida back in that set,
and that's something that you wish theywould be a little bit cleaner. I
mean, obviously you'd take it howeveryou can get it. But after a
fourteen to four lead, Florida actuallyoutscores Wisconsin the rest of the way seventeen
(01:45:53):
to eleven. And that's just aif you can't take the foot off the
pedal, you gotta we gotta finishthese I don't know, it looks like
the team got a little complacent, got a little comfortable, and you can't
do that. You can't do thatin front of a record crowd. You
can't do that versus the best team. You know, one of the best
(01:46:13):
teams in the country. You can'tdo it versus some of the worst teams
in the country, because any givennight a team can go on runs.
So that's something this team has gota kind of fight through. It's kind
of been our Achilles heel this wholeseason. So hoping where you can really
kind of push to finish here.Wisconsin needs this fourth set victory now,
(01:46:39):
and the Badgers and Gators are readyfor the fourth here in Gainesville, Florida
left or right, goes out Franklyhandle on the run, goes to Smrek
high above the net, swipes itover grab by Florida. I tip over
the block by Fitzpatrick and Wisconsin retrievesit. Left side. Franklin goes down
(01:47:00):
the line and underneath it is Muffthe setter. Now we're to the right
side. Big swing by Martin Hamillhas its second ball to o'shoe and ow
a free ball coming back to theGators. Muff setting Little Florida gets it
to their middle longer. Okomo, okamore, excuse me, who gets the
(01:47:24):
kill and Florida leads it one nothingto start. Kennedy Martin would tend for
Florida. Spreck has nine, hittingfour twenty one for the Badgers. Robinson
has seven, hitting two seventy eight. Then it's Franklin was seven and Thomas
Eilaara has six. Talking about thekills, and there is Temmy on serve
(01:47:45):
receive to Franklin on the set onthe line and it's good and great reaction
there by Thomas Eilara as she hadto just kind of hesitate and then dive
to her left on serve receive andthat's a that's a great placement of a
surf from Florida and right between thetwo outside hitters, and Franklin's wanting to
hit, so she kind of gotout of there, leaving Timmy to pass
(01:48:06):
that ball. Where's frank The serdsgoes to the right back of Florida on
the run is muff the bump setand a big smash not touched by the
Badger's defense goes out by Fitzpatrick Floridasaying there's a touch. They have one
challenge remaining. Mary Wise firmly plantedon her chair, not gonna get on.
(01:48:31):
She has one challenge remaining, soit's like, what do you want
to use it for a call likethat? When both officials said no touch,
Franklin goes out your sideline on herserve, I give a point to
Florida. It's two two and thefourth Gators won the first two sets.
Wisconsin comes back with a third setwin. As I mentioned, two of
(01:48:56):
the last three meetings in the lastthree years on the islander between these two
teams have resulted in Florida coming outto a two oh lead and every well
every match in the last three timeshave gone to five. We'll see if
that holds true. Franklin service,he spends it up front to Hamile and
get them smack on a big approachinto the meat of the block and it's
back to Wisconsin. How about theleft side down the line? And for
(01:49:17):
Thomas Laura, I feel like I'mright on the line and that was in
like that looked into me once again. The Gators have one challenge remaining and
Mary wise won't use it. Threetwo Wisconsin CC to serve. She'll go
(01:49:42):
to the middle back muff sets inthe middle swiped Hamil has it Crawford sets
to Smack got away from the crosscoorting out just the second hitting error of
the match for Smack, who's comingoff seven kills. The fourth set against
Marquette on Wednesday at fifteen and thematches season high. Here's Martin alts down
(01:50:12):
the line, so for Florida thatis the tenth service error. Wisconsin's lead
is at one and here it comesAshburn into set and serve will be behind
the line first serving from the leftback with Wisconsin. I'll buy one and
(01:50:35):
it must win. Fourth off thetop of the net handle on the far
side line by Florida. Right sideturning down the line on a shot is
Dixon. Great stop by O Joe. I've stop Tammy time Mishell bounce it
down full of stream killed by ThomasEilar. A two point lead for the
Badgers. And see now we haveMuff in the front row and Stucky is
(01:50:56):
a big blocking center. So I'dlike to see us and have exposed Muff
as a smaller past there. Yeah, Stucky six two Muff at five eleven.
Here's the serve past goes all theway left to the Florida backs,
brought back in play and a freeball delivered to the Badgers. So Robinson
to Ashburn, backs to Devin.Dude smashed and it's kept off the court
by Florida. Fitz Patrick tips downthe line and it goes wide to get
(01:51:20):
here the out out scream and it'ssix three Wisconsin in the fourth three point
Badger's lead three nothing wrong eight andold Wisconsin eight and old Florida where it
(01:51:50):
comes Ashburn cross into the air.Fire says to the middle back, great
pass, muff setting right side, tipping into the block as Dixon pushed back.
It comes Florida to the left lookingfor the touch. Fitzpatrick goes out
and they have a touch called andit's a point to Florida. And you
(01:52:12):
see Carter. Kelly looks straight atCarter, and Carter says, yeah,
yeah, I got it. Youknow, I think he was looking to
see if he should challenge it ornot. He does have two. He's
won two challenges here today, theBadgers said, coach Serve goes deep.
But now seven four, so theBadgers get another free point here in the
(01:52:34):
set, and now cool Jay Gachtuck in. We'll enter the match to
serve for Thomas Ilves. This isa good rotation. It looks this is
usually where they run their spread offense. They've got an outside on one pin
(01:52:55):
and they've got their middle on theother pen. They see where they go.
Three Florida passers goes down to thenearest sideline at Dixon. Muff sets
the pipe. Martin, what's theand it's out eight fourth came right out
of there's literally right at me.You save that, strapped it right against
(01:53:15):
the cat like reflexes. Well,it's let's not go that far. Eight
four foots teching serving to the rightsideline out a system is Florida and splitting
the block is Victoria as she rattlesit down to eight five. The lead
by Wisconsin is at three right tothe block of Robinson and Booth so Fhia.
(01:53:43):
Victoria grabs her sixth kill. Threebadger passers Franklin on the left back
Gojo in the middle. Right backis Gg. Dixon goes at goots techn
spinning pass finds Aspur and left sideof Franklin rolls it over and it's dug
by Florida. Now they're right backattack Dix and right off oh show bump
set Gigi near the net in theleft we got rejected right into the Florida
(01:54:05):
block and the Gators trail by twoand Muff is little, but she sets
a good block. So she sheset that block for the middle, was
able to close and kind of presson that. So I'd like to see
us trying to attack more at herversus at the middle. There was okamore
(01:54:25):
and moff. There is foods checkin great high pass at Asquarre and left
side. Franklin block was late gettingthere. It goes off one to dinner
and it falls down past the Floridabench nine six after the kill by Sarah
Franklin, where she's over one thousandcareer kills, got there on Wednesday night,
gives her team a three point advantagein the fourth. I love that
(01:54:47):
she went right over the top ofMuff on that ball down the line,
exactly where she should be attacking whenshe's in ther row. Oh show serves
to the middle back of Florida. It's near the net, it's an overpassing.
It's Franklin taking care of the overpass. You really always show the last
couple of matches has been pretty dynamicbehind the line. Honestly, that ball
(01:55:09):
could have hit the tape that ballcould have hit the top of the net
and stayed on our side. She'sbarely grazing the top of the net on
these serves, Ano, they're greatserved by Ojo, decent pass. Muff
runs the slide. Oh, comemore got off the Wisconsin side out to
Florida. But ten seven is theBadger's lead. It's a must win fourth
(01:55:30):
for the cardinal in white. Lauridacaptured the first two sets Wisconsin. I
was able to come back in acritical third set victory. Serve mufflne drive
pass off the net and then itfalls. It's an ace for Muff.
(01:55:51):
Backup setter for Florida, replacing Stuckywho left with the knee injury. In
the second Gators down to mom gosaid, oh show sticks to pass up
front. Crawford a high tip overthe block and it's grabbed by Florida.
Upside Victoria. Juci excause we Askernhopped it up. Crawford sets it over
(01:56:14):
here come the Gators from the left, Victoria. It's it in for Victoria
and Florida trails by nine. Thoughtson that one. It's just that you
see a lot of these calls thatthey're calling against us. The referees are
calling lifts and two contacts and they'renot content calling it for Florida, so
(01:56:36):
I get frustrated. Muff sails thatone well passed the endline, and the
serving error gives Wisconsin a two pointlead. It's eleven nine, and now
we have Martin back in the frontrow. She'll be hitting on the left
side here. So you got abig Smereck rock against a big attacker Martin.
(01:57:00):
So this will be a nice littlematch up this rotation. And Hammel
steps back to serve on the rightback akissic back there the pass and so
get an ace right in front ofa Kissic. Hamil provides a badger's ace,
quiets the crowd, gives her teama three point lead. You see
(01:57:24):
how that ball just died there,I mean ball almost suspended in midair and
just falls right in front of theirbro Seventh ace of the year for MJ.
See if she can do it again, at least put in another good
serve. Makiss spins a great passup and the kill is down by Alcamar.
(01:57:45):
Number eight for her today and it'sa twelve ten Wisconsin lead. Right
pass scoots tack it in the backrow, This is well past her career
high. Now for Oakamore, Actually, I take that back one past her
career high. Eight. Hamil flingsit off, launchling set off to the
(01:58:11):
left and splitting the block is frame. Franklin fires down and kill another one
for her. She leads Wisconsin witheleven today. Florida native shown off in
Florida alight from Lake fourth, Florida. It is Sarah Franklin. There's this
(01:58:33):
one's skin at the top of thetape on a pretty decent serve. Okamore
tips in the middle, pinball around, Hamil backwards, mumping a free ball
to Florida. Muff backsets right side, Mark powers shot right. There is
Hamile with the dick left side Thomasl End of the block and she got
stuck in Florida trails by two. It's the eighth block of the match.
(01:58:55):
Y'up blocking this Badger's team eight tofive, which is pretty unusual. I
mean, I feel like it's ourblock has been the one that's been usually
pretty dominant in these matches. Sonow to see Florida showing up and blocking
ass off mkissics to Ojo Loberro toLibero back row. Franklin gotta touch up
(01:59:17):
with the net. Doug back rowby Muff bumps that to the right.
Martin takes off and slams one wide. Wisconsin battling and what is a must
win fourth They trail two sets toone to Florida. Three point lead for
(01:59:42):
the matchers. Clawford serving goes atmkissic. There's Muff to the left.
It's Patrick denied covered to the left. It's Patrick winds up as masses at.
Crawford slides in with the dick rightside smreck, big bang off the
defense, chased down. Third ballcoming over by mc kissock. It's a
free ball to Wisconsin. Franklin nailsit up front to the middle of book.
(02:00:03):
Big smash off of the Kissock.Wisconsin terminating off the free ball and
it leads to a media timeout.Fourth set number one, Wisconsin fifteen,
third ranked Florida eleven. The Gatorslead two sets to one. You're listening
to Wisconsin Badger Volleyball presented by GoodmanStewlers, providing Sparkle to Madison for ninety

years. This is Wisconsin Volleyball, wrote to you by good Mun's Jewelers,
Madison's Diamond Store, and a wholelot more one two, three, seen
to eleven. Wisconsin leads Florida inthe fourth. John Oudius and Jessica Williams
(02:00:46):
with you Badger's hitting two twenty twoin the set, Florida hitting one hundred.
But if Wisconsin wants to get toa fifth, they gotta win it
here in the fourth after Florida wonthe first two sets. So far,
so good, but you gotta becareful. It was about I would say
this time in the third set.Wisconsin led fourteen to four in the third,
(02:01:06):
and then Florida finished as the betterteam down the stretch. Even though
if the Badger's got the set wincan't have a repeat of this. When
the watch slimmer margin with the leadat four, left side into the Badgel
block stopped. It's smacking boot stoppingthe shot on the outside by Fitzpatrick and
it's a five point Buckey lead.Crawford toss of the their fires at nakissicm
(02:01:39):
off to the middle. Fison Dick, who didn't grow, gives into the
back growing down. She's up tosix kills and it's sixteen twelve. Wisconsin
has the lead, split's the blockgoes right at Franklin in the middle back.
That was a really nice, sir. I mean, Crawper made great
(02:01:59):
contact with it. It looked likeit was kind of floating through the air.
The Borrow on the other side justhandled it really really well. Martin
slaps it over at Franklin. Greatpass, right side struck throwing a wide
out three point lead. Now littleBadgers sixteen thirteen. I gotta win the
fourth. Tell me on the leftback Franklin middle back, go Joe right
(02:02:26):
back, awaiting to serve by Martin. It goes to frank local field trick
flings it up front to Hamlet leftside. Tammy the kissic has the stop
off of the back girl high tipbuckling over the block by Martin. Here's
a jealous at the net. Boothpushes it deep, say by Florida to
the left side and another fifty blocksmucking boot team on again, huge rejection
on the outside of Fitzpatrick seventeen thirteen. And that was I mean, the
(02:02:53):
ball hit hands and the ball wentdown. I mean that was a ballmoon
block. I don't know if that'san industry term, but man, that's
a I was really great at botmakes sense to me, seventeen thirteen.
Four point lead. Here's Aspurn servesit too. The growing chums past the
online serving error all I'd like tosee them. You know, that was
(02:03:20):
a really big block. Were alot of a gentlemane and then a servant
out of bounds, So you gottagotta rally back. Don't let them get
any any points. It's funny thatblock is labeled on the stat sheet as
a bad set. Again. Hereis pretty growing wide Florida grabs it fits
your up by two. Bad setthat should be a block by Wisconsin.
(02:03:47):
I'm not. It's the second timeI've seen bad set by. I got
a stat person that doesn't want togive us some blocks. Apparently there's Fitzpatrick
to serve jump top Spin finds itin spinning, passing a decent one by
Timmy back to Thomas. Lala stoppedand overpassed back to the Gators. Mark
(02:04:10):
cries a setter jump and Brutha jucksit down for the point. Tried to
flip it up and over our head. The back up set her muff and
it's eighteen fifteen point Wisconsin and amustar went fourth well in Chi's front row
there, So I mean what Carterdid was legal theyre two front row players
basically jousting after a ball. Whosaw some of the players on Florida's bench
(02:04:32):
their calling prayer trying to a caron and over But with that that was
legal. There's GGI, but itdirected at Canan hits the top of the
tape. Played up front right sidebig Surn Dixon dog by Asburn high bump

side. Robinson reaches high for it. Martin digs little back now to the
left. Victoria into the middle ofthe baser block and stopped covered by Florida
backer Al Martin. Asburn falls overwith the save left side. Franklin high
tip sliding in canet now to theleft, Victoria Askburn to booth bump set.
Franklin steps to down. Wow,we're a rally victory there for the
(02:05:20):
Badgers, and it gives Wisconsin anineteen to fifteen lead. Love that love
the all out effort on both sides. I mean, that's ad some great
reads on the Badger defense. You'vegot people stepping in when when the setters
take the first ball, so ishe dug a few balls in there?
(02:05:43):
Great to see other people step inand set the second ball for that offense
to continue. Time out taken byFlorida. Late fourth set, Wisconsin,
nineteen Florida fifteen. Back after thistime out, if you were listening to
Wisconsin Badger Volleyball presented by Goodman's Jewelersproviding Sparkle, the madisone for ninety years,

brought to you by good Months Jewelersproviding Sparkled to Medicine since nineteen thirty
three, nineteen to fifteen Number onewith Scots and Leeds. Number three Florida
and I must win fourth for theBadgers. Fans trying to back their Gators

Florida at trying for the upset anda four set victory. They won the
first two sets here today w ledby as many as ten and the third
and they were able to beat Floridaby four. Florida playing with its backup

center, while midway through the secondAlexa stuck. He went down with a
knee injury. Here's Foilt, thesophomore, surveying the groups, tacking on
the right back Asburn brings it offto the left. Roll shot by Franklin
picked up Florida overpass, boot poundsat it, dug Florida left side attack
error point Wisconsin as Victoria's shot goesdeep twenty to sixteen. The Badgers in
(02:07:21):
the red zone, five away frompushing it to five. Today, Wisconsin
trying to get to a fifth setfor the third time this season. They're
two and on five setters. Notthere yet. Slide got it Okkamor gets
(02:07:44):
the kill on the rights, Floridato within three. A career day for
her nine kills, no errors, six forty three her hitting percentage. Here's
a mom serving at goats teching heilsto pass up front. They're like,
(02:08:05):
oh, spans to look the rocketand kill this bump by Devin and it's
twenty one seventeen. That's a bigbanger, you know. When she sees
a hole in the block like that. There was a pretty significant hold air.
She went for it and that wasa commanding kill from the right side
from her, and that was thatwas awesome. Hammel serving twenty one seventeen,
(02:08:37):
fires it at mckissic, spinning pass, finds muff right side. This
little underhand tip over by Victoria Wisconsinhas at left side. Franklin bounces high
off the blocker's hands, back row, safe middle attack and it pass for
Ulkamar again ten kills and no errorsfor her twenty one eighteen. Gators pulled
(02:08:58):
it with him three. What Ilike about how she's playing, she's reading,
I mean really well, and she'sgoing. When there's opportunities for her
to have just you know, bigkills, she's taking them. And that
one she kind of took a lotoff of it and tip right behind the
block. So that was she's playingreally smart. Adam serves a goods tech
in Hamil doesn't move. It's theset to smerenk Or rips it down to
(02:09:20):
the far sideline, rips away forsprint twenty to eighteen. The Badger's need
three to get to a fifth andFranklin, we'll serve eight in Ol Wisconsin,
eight in ol Florida. It's athird time ever in Badger's program history,
(02:09:41):
we've had a top three matchup.Franklin serving right to left, over
past and Anna Smreck cleans it updown to the court twenty three eighteen yep
and Muff's back row. So she'sgoing to try to set that overpass situation
and it takes care of it.Time out by Florida their second of the
(02:10:07):
fourth set, twenty three to eighteen, Wisconsin on top of the Gators.
Here in the fourth it's Florida leadingtwo sets to one, and we'll keep
it right here. Badgers are hittingone eighty eight in the set eleven kills
five errors, Florida hitting a eightysix, ten kills seven errors. Leading
attackers for Wisconsin. Franklin has twelvealso has eight digs today eleven for Smerek
(02:10:31):
hitting three twenty spreks been big atwo Badger setters have double doubles. Hamilt
fourteen and fifteen assists in digs,Asburn fifteen and eleven assists in diggs.
O show coming off a career hightwenty three digs Wednesday has thirteen of them
but two points and then you getto a fifth and that's uh, you
(02:10:52):
know, that's what that's what thegoal was. Obviously, when you get
down OZ two, just gotta getit to five and see what happens after
that. I mean, I reallyhaven't taken a little close look at these
box scores, but I mean, you look at you just said the two
setters have double doubles. You cantell what area the court they're trying to
attack, and that's uh, that'sMartin's favorite shot that cross court right side
(02:11:16):
to right side. But that justshows the setters are, you know,
taking a majority of the floor offenseon that side. The fact that we're
capitalizing on that now it is fantastic. Man like to get some momentum rolling
into this fifth set. If ifwe should, we get these last two
(02:11:37):
points. So this is crucial, crucial timing and a pretty good rotation for
us. So I'd like to seeus finish this out. Franklin coming off
a good sir, last attempt goesdown the left sideline, m kiss a
great high pass to the left side. Chip it's down for Victoria or check
(02:12:03):
it that is it's Pendrick rather threenineteen, still a four point lead,
though for the Badger's late in thefourth lowered up two sets to one in
the match. Gonna wipe up theBadger's side of the court before we get
ready. Wisconsin finding every single spoton the floor that needs tidying up,
(02:12:31):
and we're ready to go. Mekissicserving the libero for Florida. Ready to
put it in play left or rightto toss into the air. Go to
the left back ojoe type pass, right side Streck, big wind up,
stopped and covered. Here comes Wisconsinagain. Pumps that over to Tammy left
hand stopped and covered. Now it'sup near the net. Smereck takes a
swing dug by Florida right side.Lartin pushes down the line. OsO comes
(02:12:56):
in with the save. Thomas E. Laura sharp cross court. M kiss
It has the dig labs five kisPatrick twenty three twenty. The leads down
to three. I'll Wisconsin. Wisconsinhad a twenty three to eighteen lead and
(02:13:31):
now a couple of points by Florida, and Badger's coach Kelly Sheffield says,
well, let's one, let's takeit, let's talk about it. Disturb
the center. I'm sorry to sortthe server, you know, just give
him, give him a chance tothink about it. We gotta go back
and serve again though, So yeah, regroup and talk about what's about to
(02:13:56):
happen and get this point. Thefinal match of the non conference before Big
ten plays starts next week at Northwesternand the Badgers and the Gators are battling
number one Wisconsin eight mill. Theygot here with a four set win against
Marquette on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Floridaeight no. They got here with a
(02:14:20):
five set win against their rivals FloridaState on the road record setting crowd for
Florida volleyball today. So in backto back matches, the Badgers played in
front of seventeen thirty seven and nowthey get Florida's record setting ten thousand,
three twenty three. Remember earlier thisseason in Fayetteville, Arkansas, in what
(02:14:46):
was a five set win in thefirst of two against the Razorbacks, it
was Wisconsin playing in front of arecord four thousand, two hundred ninety nine
fans. They're at Barnhill Arena andso big crowds, big wins so far
the storyline of the non conference andtrying to keep it that way. But
Florida has back to back points andwhat was a five point lead is now
(02:15:09):
down to three. McKissick serving tossedinto the air. Franklin fields Hammel on
the run a bump set Thomas IILaura clock covered now save by Franklin bumps
at. Here's Timmy again from thenine, got the touch, got the
kill. Set point for the Badgers. Twenty four and twenty man. I
(02:15:31):
think that one off of Martin's likering finger. I mean that that was
a perfectly placed shot from Timmy offour hands and almost to the corner there.
Crawford goes teeth out, gives athree point lead to Florida. Back
to a three point lead. Twentyfour twenty one, Set point number two,
(02:15:52):
now for the Badgers. In thefourth, Hey in Florida just subbed
out Muff for a bigger blocker inthe front row. So right now and
the last time they did this inthe in the third set, number eight
became the setter in the right back. But they've got a blocking sub in
the front row for Mouth. Thatis Essex series Franklin high pass over pass
(02:16:16):
pushed over by Florida. Here comesWisconsin after the did right side strap two.
Set point number three. The leadis at two. It's a must
win fourth set for the number oneranked Badgers. Time out Wisconsin. Well,
(02:16:37):
no one said it was going tobe easy. Florida able to battle
back here in this set. Theywere able to battle back in the third
before Wisconsin prevailed by four. Rightnow, it's a two point lead at
twenty four to twenty two, andFlorida has now outschool were the Badgers four
(02:17:01):
to one, since Wisconsin had atwenty three eighteen league trying to just close
it out at this point, Like, obviously you'd like to run away with
it, but at this point, just take whatever you can get, right
And I mean, this crowd hasbeen fantastic. I mean they're giving their
(02:17:22):
team a lot of energy. It'sthe same as we were when we were
in Arkansas. It was the samewhen we were in Milwaukee playing Marquette.
The home crowd really does give energyto the players on the court, and
you know, if you will,it gets in in their heads, our
heads sometimes, and it's uh,you can use that energy as as a
(02:17:45):
positive as as just that just energy, or you can you it could be
a negative thing, and right nowthere for us, it's a little bit
of a negative thing. So yougotta regroup, gotta gotta win this plot
point. This is like you saidit's a Muslin Mustlin situation right now.
Luckily they had a decent lead hereto absorb some punches by the Gators.
(02:18:13):
Third set point, must win.Fourth for the Badgers. Here comes to
serve by Martin, flided by Franklin, Hamilt sets Smark touches the block overpass,
pushes it down, and that one'sgonna end it. Hey, let's
play five today in Gainesville, twentyfive twenty to Wisconsin. Fifth and final
(02:18:33):
set coming up between number one Wisconsinand number three Florida. And it starts
in a couple of minutes. They'relistening to Wisconsin Badger Volleyball presented by Goodman's
Jewelers providing Sparkle to Madison for ninetyyears. Brought to you by good Month's
(02:18:54):
Jewelers providing Sparkle to Medicine since nineteenthirty three. Fifth set year in Gainesville,
John Oudious and Jessica Williams with youcop ranked Wisconsin and number three Florida.
So the Badgers are playing in theirthird fifth set match of the season,
(02:19:15):
of course, undefeated. They gotby Arkansas in the first of two
against the Razorbacks and the home openeragainst Tennessee. This is a second straight
five set match now for Florida. They've won a total of three in five
sets at South Florida against Sacramento Stateand at Florida State. Wisconsin lost the
(02:19:37):
first two sets and now have pushedit to a fifth and decisive fifth set
here, final set. What needsto happen for the Badgers here in the
fifth man The fifth game is asprint. You're sprinting to twenty air to
fifteen rather than twenty five. Soit's it's so crucial that the momentum of
(02:20:03):
this set just goes by so quicklyand it can change so quickly. And
we've been on the you know, that's happened to us a few times already
this year. And we were thirteenthirteen with Arkansas and managed to sweep away
two with points at the end infront of our pretty hostile crowd. So
I mean, anything can happen here. I've been more impressed with our our
(02:20:26):
serving and passing game and then thelatter two sets than the first two.
Hoping to see that continue right nowand us controlling our side, not letting
Florida dictate this match or this thisset. And they've got the home crowd.
They've got the energy in the building, like to kind of deflate that
(02:20:48):
a little bit. So the lastthree meetings between these two, going back
to twenty fifteen have been five setwins. Florida in two of those three's
started two and oh you know,Wisconsin was down oh two, So why
wouldn't we play five again. Let'scome Wisconsin in Florida. In the fifth,
here comes Hamile opening Serve goes downthe far sideline, good pass,
(02:21:11):
Muff setting right side, Dixon divingsaving the back row by Thomas II.
Laura up side by. Franklin goesdown the line, picked up Muff,
bumps that to the outside, bigswearing, rechected Smreck and Crawford get a
huge block for Bucky to start thefifth mats. I don't know if you
saw that Smreck close that block,Like her right hand was next to that
(02:21:35):
antenna, and she took that courtaway from Martin, who that that's our
favorite shot right there. That wasawesome seventh hitting error from Martin. She's
got ten kills fired in there byHamil, Muff setting Dixon tipping, pushed
back by Franklin, saved at them line by Florida down ball sneaks silver
(02:21:56):
in the net and it falls offHamil by Martin. She was just backbend
only put nothing on it, andI just trickled over the top of the
tape one one. I mean,MJ's running up, she's trying, she's
anticipating a free ball down ball that'snot really going to her, so she
(02:22:16):
kind of just caught caught up inthat in the trajectory of the ball there,
but get it back. I don'tknow if it was planned or it
was his luck, but but itwas a point. Here's Fitzpatrick serving left
or right. Goes a Franklin onthe left back steers it up front.
Hamil sets left side back to franksave back girl Florida middle right. There's
(02:22:37):
Hamil now, Franklin tips high overthe block popped up by the Florida defense
and a free ball now to WisconsinCrawford. Hamil to the left pin sets
it. Franklin rolls a shot dugby Florida to the left side, going
down the line. Victoria got it, punches it to the near far side
corner rather two one Florida. Inthe fifth set, Victoria Tally's her ninth
(02:23:07):
kill for Florida. Two kills bythe Gators, two points Wisconsin still looking
for their first kill. The fifth, Thomas Eiler on service eve off to
the right, bad pass out assistantdown ball by Franklin, rolls in over
saved by Florida near the net, slapped at by Martin. The Badger's dig
(02:23:30):
it right side. There's cwkberd rideno touch up front. Three one Florida
Fitzpatrick. Just the second match everin Gainesville between these two teams. Middle
(02:23:58):
Smack got it number thirteen for Sprucktoday, two off, tying her career
high, which she season high rather, which she's set on Wednesday night.
I love that I'm Jay's trying. She's forcing that middle attack right now.
That ball was not a perfect pass, but she's she's going. She's trying
(02:24:18):
to find the middle there. Ilove that Franklin serving for the background mc
kiss a great pass right side Royalor Martin inside the ten foot line saved
Thomas all our big swing into theblock and cover. Temmy again hits the
film on the near side, Floridadoubling up the Badgers in the fifth.
It's four two Wisconsin, one winall time in the series. Against Florida,
(02:24:50):
and it came in the twenty twentytwenty twenty one year to advance to
the final four. Last season andMadison, it was Florida in five at
the Coal Center. You're in Gainesville. We're in the fifth camel setting.
Spreck rattles through the block, butit's dog by Fitzpatrick outside. Victoria slaps
(02:25:15):
a deep and appoints to Wisconsin, pulls the batterers to within one, four
three Florida, fifth and final set. I'll think about Jocelyn Bowyer who just
enters the match, been sitting fortwo hours plus. She comes in clutch
though when she when her name iscalled, she comes in and she executes.
(02:25:37):
She did that against Penn State lastyear in the NC Double A tournament,
coming in and getting aces late inthe fifth set, so going to
the far side corner on a nastysurf which results in an ace, and
there is Boyer coming up clutch inthe fifth Hey, that's I mean,
that's exactly she's ready when her nameis called, and it's exactly what you
(02:25:58):
needed to do. And that's suchas four four fifth set. Prior again
pounds it to the far side corner, right side Martin swing down to the
back row, Hamill diving unsuccessfully forthe u W five four Florida, and
(02:26:18):
she's gonna get her kills. Look, she's a great player, she's been
man. She's leading their team inand attempts and kills. And she takes
a little bit off of that onefor a kill. And but now she's
in the back row, so weneed to we need to capitalize on them.
Twelve kills, ten digs from Martin, she's serving goes at Franklin High
Pass. Hamil waits for its sets. It over to the eleven pin block
(02:26:39):
late through the block, but it'sdug Florida scrambling on the outside into that
bachelor block. It's denied. Butnow back to Wisconsin as Anna Smreck gets
the set on the right side anda snap of the wrist and it's down
five five Florida, Wisconsin, tenaway each side from winning here today.
(02:27:00):
Again, not a commanding killer atthat time from Spreck, but she places
it so well, she takes alittle bit off of it. Still,
I'm not a hard driven ball, but it's not a slam to the ground.
I love where she placed that fiveeach fifth set going to fifteen Ashburn
jump floats it right to left ofthe middle back, great pass Muff,
set or dump. It's saved byWisconsin. Robinson takes a swing and it
(02:27:24):
falls right off Martin in the backrow. Deevin delivers kill number nine.
Today, Wisconsin has the lead atsix to five and Muff hasn't been attacking
a lot, so for her togo up, I was a perfect pass,
maybe a little tight to attack thatball. That was a great read
from Izzy in the right back topick that out. First lead of the
(02:27:45):
set. Now for the badger serveAshburn, great pass Muff to the right
and it's good. It's okamore offthe badger block and it falls out of
bound. But waits Debby Sheffield goingto grab the channel guard two and out
today and challenges and are we sayingthat it goes back off of okamore?
(02:28:07):
She was trying to get out ofthe way out of bounce. What's the
thinking here, Jess, I meanKelly's got two challenges at least, I
mean third three. If it's youget one more for the third, I
think it yeah, yeah too.So why wouldn't you challenge this play?
It's at a critical point of thismatch, and you've got players that are
saying she touched it, so youhave to challenge it. Plus it gives
(02:28:33):
them a little time to recoup, you know. The coach is talking to
them right now, telling them whatwhat's going on, what's open? You
know, if anything, it wasas a mini time out in the middle
of this fifth set. So we'llsee they're still not looking at a monitor.
So Okamore on the right side toolof the badger block. But did
(02:28:56):
it come back and roll and Oakamore'swhite shoulder? Yeah, Oh, it's
so close. You think it does? I think it does. I think
it gets our It's so so close. Is she's falling down? The ball
is just a grainy right replay here. They're not showing it in venue.
(02:29:18):
We're looking at John's phone right nowin the Wi Fi service in here.
Isn't the best well ten thousand, three hundred twenty three probably all of them
belonging into the Wi Fi six sixis the score? I don't know her
shoulder on that one. Yeah, then that's what they're going to have to
(02:29:41):
determine whether or not the block comesback and touches the shoulder. Now,
the second down official rather is goingto finally take a look at this.
Has he been doing I think justwaiting for the replay they become available.
God, they got it to work, and now does he even look at
(02:30:03):
it? I mean, who's doingthe replay? Challenge lost? Wow?
All right goes right over the rightshoulder and I think it did clear.
I don't think it touched her.Wisconsin loses its first challenge of the match.
(02:30:28):
Serve grabbed by Thomas Ai Laura passoff to the right ball heaven Rror
asked for a Florida takes the leadseven six skaters in the fifth, going
to fifteen, here's canaan. Wisconsinloses a challenge, gets called for an
(02:30:54):
error and the serve goes out.Can Anne serve right the line judge on
the near sideline seven apiece, who'scheck it? The badger sophomore into serve
(02:31:26):
there comes to g goes to theright, back to the back row,
muff setting, spreading the black andgetting to kill. Is Dickson was very
active early gets a kill in thefifth. She's got seven in no errors.
As the two teams will switch endsof the court. With Florida leading
(02:31:50):
eight seven, Kelly calls the timeout there so Wisconsin. We'll take a
(02:32:16):
break. Why don't we take abreak too, Let's be back in sixty
fifth set, Florida EA. Wisconsinseven. You're listening to Wisconsin Bacher Volleyball
presented by Goodman's Jewelers providing Sparkle toMadison for ninety years. Prone to you
(02:32:37):
by good Month's Jewelers providing sparkled toMedicine since nineteen thirty three eight seven third
ranked Florida over number one Wisconsin. In the fifth set, here in Gainesville,
John Odious, Jessica Williams with you, two teams of swits ends and
mckissic. We'll lead it off, serving right to left for Florida eight and
(02:33:01):
oh versus eight and oh so goto Oshell sticks the packs left side Franklin
deep shot, Martin handles left sideDixon high tap sliding in Ashburn has the
dig to the left. Here's Franklinrolls it through the block, over passed
near the net, pushed over toFlorida upside Dixon off the block, and
(02:33:24):
then it's Robinson with quick hands tosmash it down as it got popped up
near the net. Eight to eight. In the fifth some handy network by
Devin. I mean that's just goodawareness of where she is on the four.
The ball comes up at her reallyfast and she's able to terminate in
(02:33:46):
a really tense quick situation. Sothat's great reading and great awareness from her.
On the right side. Oh showjump floats it deep picked up by
canan good path slide Essex tip stoppedback to Florida. Here's a swing by
picks In you smash hits the scoreboardand it falls, but did went up
(02:34:09):
high into the air. I thinkit was Goots check In on the left
back and it drops straight down afterit hit the top or the bottom rather
of the scoreboard. I mean, and that happens at the field house all
the time. And when you're lookI'm falling a serving sub, you know
it's just a ball comes up.I mean she that was a really fastball
(02:34:31):
and no one had time to kindof clear that area. And Florida is
doing their kind of serving sub herewhere they have they have a blocker come
in for in for Muff nine eightFlorida. It sits Patrick In. She
goes in for Muff to serve jumptops when fires it at O show over
passed Smash Aper show each Chechnique can'tdrop a second ball and Florida takes it
(02:34:58):
two point lead. They're five awayfrom the win. Today Wisconsin will have
their side of the court wiped up. Let Fitzpatrick think about it a little
bit. Help they want, I'llperson to come right back out. Miss
(02:35:20):
the spot all right, Florida bytwo, and now it's time out.
Lly Sheffield takes his final time outten eight, Florida by two. Fifth
set and the next rally, thenext serve, the next play made by
(02:35:46):
either side is going to be hugebecause it's either going to be Florida four
away, up three or Wisconsin downone. Oh my goodness, so I
said, I mean the fifth setis a sprint in it. Man,
the momentum shifts happened so quickly, and you go out a little run and
you're almost done with the game,so man, like, you know,
(02:36:09):
Franklin calls out floor wipers. They'rewiping the floor. She calls them back
because they haven't gotten everything up.You know. The Fitzpatrick's over here waiting
to serve, and then Kelly waitsfor the floor wiper to clear the floor
before calling the time out. Soof course he does, you know,
So a little bit of diversion tacticsif you will. You know, this
(02:36:33):
is a big moment for her,so you know, put a little more
when I put up a little morepressure on her. You know, the
crowd is, the crowd is intoit. The crowds feeding them energy.
Right now, we gotta focus onour side. We gotta handle this pass.
Right here, we have front row. We have dead front row,
dead CC and Frank front row.So I mean that's a that's a great
(02:36:56):
front row. Florida's got some prettytall block in so this is a crucial
point. But the third time inthis set, Florida has a two point
lead, trying to stretch it tothree if they can get another one here
Wisconsin obviously not hoping that happens.Right A, Gigi sticks the pass to
Asper middle. Crawford stood cross bodyand in huge point wa a pass.
(02:37:24):
What a path? Wow? Tennine Gegi stuck that path, man.
That was a that was a toughserve. That drove her back and she
was able, man, she isShe's got fire in her eyes right now.
That's awesome. Lead is down toone. Will Scotson nine Florida ten
(02:37:45):
Hammel goes to the background m kissit muff sets right side, winding up
Dickson and that one got away bigtime hitting error. We are tied to
ten. It's a race to thefinal five points. Year time all Florida
(02:38:07):
ten to ten. Remember the winnerof this one remains unbeaten. And we'll
move to nine and zero. Andwhat a way to finish the non conference.
How about this? Ten thousand fansthe second time Wisconsin has ever traveled
to Gainesville. The last time yeartwo thousands, so it's been almost a
(02:38:31):
quarter of a century since they playedhere. Back then it was a three
set win by Florida. Here,we're going to five, last four against
these two schools have gone five, like it doesn't get much even than that,
No, And I mean it's alwaysa battle when you play Florida.
(02:38:52):
Barry does a great job with allof her teams, and we've had some
epic epics battles with them these pastfew years. This is awesome. This
is exactly the environment you want tobe in. You know, the facts
are, when you're backs against thewall, how how do you respond?
And and that's what this this teamis showing. And Kelly said, we're
(02:39:15):
gonna learn a lot about our teamthese last few matches going into the Big
ten season, and I think they'vebeen two quality opponents that have really revealed
a lot about what this team canaccomplish and what they can do under under
pressure, under adversity. And rightnow it's a it's a race to five
(02:39:35):
first of five in a in anarena where the majority is cheery against you.
So let's see. I'm excited tosee how this team responds right now.
Seven kills, three errors, twohundred the attack percentage for Florida in
the fIF five kills, two errors, one seventy six Goo Wisconsin. It's
a race to the final five points. Toss into the air, goes to
(02:40:05):
the backgrow at canan muck sets quicklyessex a tip underneath it. Chichi Hammil
over to the left side, deepand in for Franklin eleven ten Wisconsin.
Franklin with kill number thirteen and Hammelwalks back to serve again thirteen for thirteen
for thirteen for number thirteen. Tencamel toss into the air. This one
(02:40:35):
fired mkiss a kid handle it.It's an ace for MJ who's check in
jumped into the arms of her setter. Usually reserved for Izzy Ashburn. But
in this situation for sure, twelveten Wisconsin time out Florida and this crowd
of ten thousand, three twenty three, it's gotten pretty quiet now. Well,
(02:40:58):
and when Florida went in for theirlast time out. The both times
in these last two serves, they'vehad one of their major shifts where they're
they're shifting their passers from the whistleto when MJ looks when she tosses up,
they're shifting to give a different lookthan what she saw when she goes
back to serve. And both timesshe's handled it really well. She's still
(02:41:22):
put the ball exactly where it needsto go into the court. And that
second one leads to an ace. That's that's I mean, in a arena
where they're all cheering against you, that's that's really tough to do. And
that's really great move by the oneof the captains. Yeah, it's just
a huge, huge service ace therefor MJ in a very very clutch moment.
(02:41:46):
So Franklin gets the kill to giveWisconsin the lead. Then an MJ
ace and now what was a tenten score and Wisconsin has its largest lead
of the second set was eight toten. Yeah, okay, so it's
(02:42:07):
a four nothing run. Yeah,it was Florida up eight to ten,
and it actually went Crawford hitting errorFranklin and then the MJA. So it
was eight ten and here we goafter the Florida time out, see if
(02:42:31):
they shift again. MJ on aserving run four nothing, Badgers run help
ham All goes to the kissick muffsets to the outside. Martin pushes grabbed
by the Badgers, kept it offthe floor, spreck soft roll touches the
block. Here comes Florida to theleft side, marketIn deepen out. Was
(02:42:56):
there a touch? No touch? And Wisconsin is on a thigh nothing wrong,
and the Badgers are two points awayfrom the five set victory. This
afternoon, Florida was up ten eight, it's thirteen ten Wisconsin. Hammel serving
(02:43:22):
the Kissick sticks the passim up tothe right, Dixon to take off pounds,
it off foods to check in andit stops a five hold on cold.
Oh all right in the face,Broods checking in the face. Yeah,
(02:43:43):
I got it right in face.If I were Gigi, I would
be like, hey, frank where'smy block? There's nothing up there?
Thirteen to eleven. All right, here we go because you're still out there,
right, it's still out there. It's the middle back. Two point
lead now for the Badgers. Floridaright left with the server comes Wisconsin.
Middle swap, No doubt, it'sMats Poynt the swamp. Fourteen to eleven
(02:44:09):
Wisconsin. Franklin steps behind the serviceline. Three point Batchers lead. Franklin
goes down the line. Muff setsto the right. Martin Slass at cross
(02:44:33):
court. Mints point number two comingup for the Badgers, and you know
that's that's where they're trying to go. That's our that's our hot hitter.
She's been steady for them all season, so it was no surprise that that
ball went to Bar on that rotation. Coach calls the time out. Time
(02:44:56):
out taken by the Badgers. Fourteentwelve Wisconsin. Second match point upcoming four
the u W. You know Imentioned the last three I it's a you
know, harp so much on theprevious events since we've got such a thriller
in front of us. But thepoint is they've all been close five not
only have they gone five sets, but it's come down to three points,
(02:45:18):
two points, three points, likethey're all close. And again we've got
the same event unfolding here this afternoon, fourteen twelve Wisconsin. And you knew
this was gonna be a tough, tough game going into it. You've got
number one at number three. Youknow, potential sellout turns into a sellout.
This is I mean, you knewit wasn't going to be easy coming
(02:45:41):
into this game. So the factthat they've been this resilient and able to
find a way to win so far. You know, we have one point
to close it out, and thekey moment so far, down eight ten,
Caroline Crawford got to kill the pollWisconsin to within one. Then an
(02:46:03):
error by Florida tied it at ten. MJ's Hamill behind the line Franklin got
to kill, gave the Badgers aone point lead, and ace by MJ
a two point lead. Another hittingerror by Florida, that time by Martin,
and there was a five oh runand a three point lead. And
so far they've been built to absorba couple of late blows by Florida.
(02:46:28):
Second match point for the Badgers,Oil to serve for the Gators, fourteen
to twelve. Wisconsin leads fifth andfinal set, Oil sends it deep it's
an O show court handle it matchpoint number three. The lead is down
(02:46:48):
to one and if Wisconsin wants toget out of here at fifteen points,
they got to convert here or we'replaying extra points. In the fifth oil
third Matt's point for the Badgers.Oh Jo handles it. The set goes
to the right side, Thick swamBy smack ends it from down O two
(02:47:11):
to nine, and Oh Wisconsin winsin the swamp in a five set thriller
fifteen to thirteen. And the fifthset the Badgers still unbeaten. It's a
reverse sweep in Gainesville, and thiscrowd are record setting ten thousand, three
(02:47:46):
hundred and twenty three slowly exiting thearena here Today Wisconsin wins its final non
conference match of the year and nowthey can get ready for Big ten play.
Yeah, big ten players here. Now, what a win here today
(02:48:09):
by the u W Badgers win itin five post match show coming up next,
we'll run through the final numbers ofthis one for you, both team
and individual. We'll hear from Wisconsincoach Kelly's Sheffield, and we'll talk about
a big win in Florida coming upin a couple of minutes. You're listening
to Wisconsin Badger Volleyball presented by Goodman'sJewelers, providing Sparkle to Madison for ninety
(02:48:35):
years. This is Wisconsin Volleyball, wrote to you by Goodmun's Jewelers, Madison's
Diamond Store, and a whole lotmore us. And welcome back to Gainesville,
(02:49:03):
Florida. Wowsers. What a whata thrilling five set win for the
Badgers here this afternoon. And hereis how it went down. Uh in
Gainesville a reverse suite four Wisconsin andhey, excuse me just one second,
(02:49:24):
can I get a box score? Then I'm in the Sorry they took my
stints away, so uh, Iwas trying to get a box score,
all right, So Wisconsin. Inthat first set, it was all Florida.
They jumped out all over the Badgersin this one one by ten twenty
(02:49:50):
five to fifteen. Uh. Sixkills and six errors by the Badger's offense.
They hit a buck eighty nine inthat first set, did Wisconsin.
And after the first the Gators kindof using the energy of this sellout crowd
of ten thousand, three hundred andtwenty three here today, and they roll
(02:50:13):
by the Badgers in the second. In the first set. Second set,
now, this was one that couldhave gone either way, as Wisconsin fell
by three to Florida. The Badgersactually led early in this one at ten
(02:50:35):
to seven. Florida would come backwith a five ore run to take the
lead. About midway through the secondset, u w hits just one seventy
five Florida hits. Was Florida setterAlexa Stuckey at fourteen fourteen going down with
a knee injury, so she hadto leave the game. About midway through
(02:50:58):
that set. Florida was able torally behind their backup setter Muff who's from
Kenosha, Wisconsin, as she comesin and is able to lead them to
a three point win in the second. In the third set, Wisconsin jumped
out all over Florida got to afourteen to four ten point lead, but
(02:51:26):
one by just four. Florida wasable to outscore the Badger seventeen to eleven.
Down the stretch, Badgers, though, hit over four hundred and got
the win. Fourth set was anotherback and forth. Wisconsin led twenty three
to eighteen before closing out Florida twentyfive twenty two. So once again it
was the Gators actually outscoring the Badgersdown the stretch. W led by as
(02:51:50):
many as five in that one,and after four sets, Sarah Franklin Anna
Sprack both led the way with twelvekills. They would push it to a
fifth and final set, where Floridathree times would take leads of two points.
But the key moment here was aftergetting up ten to eighth, Florida
Caroline Crawford kill brought the Badgers towithin one. MJ Hamill then stepped behind
(02:52:13):
the service line. Florida had ahitting error, Sarah Franklin got a kill,
MJ got a service ace, andbefore long another hitting error by Florida.
It was a five nothing run andwhat was once you know, a
ten point deficit turned into a prettycommanding lead of thirteen to ten by the
(02:52:33):
Badgers. Late in the set.Florida would fight though and push it down
to the very end before Wisconsin wasable to get a kill from Anna Smreck
her season high sixteenth kill of thematch, and the Badgers would win fifteen
to thirteen. Here today the lastO two come back reverse sweet by the
(02:52:58):
Badgers twenty eighteen against the Purdue boilerMakers at the u W Fieldhouse. Fast
forward about five years later or soin Wisconsin does it in the swamp,
winning for the first time in Gainesvilleand just their second match ever here in
Florida against the Gators. Badgers winit and we'll be back in two minutes.
(02:53:18):
You're listening to Wisconsin Badger of Volleyball, presented by Goodman's Jewelers, providing
sparkle to Madison for ninety years. This is Wisconsin Volleyball, brought to you
by good Mun's Jewelers, Madison's DiamondStore, and a whole lot more.
(02:53:39):
A reverse suite for number one rankedWisconsin and the Badgers beat Florida in five
here in Gainesville. Now joined byWisconsin head coach Kelly Sheffield, how would
you recap this match here this afternoon? Our battle? Uh, you know
(02:54:01):
it's Uh, I'm not sure,John, I'm not sure we could have
been any worse in the first set. I mean, there wasn't an element
that we were good. They wewe served. Uh. They were in
system and awful lots. Uh.We couldn't have set, we couldn't have
passed. We were somehow they hitone ninety four Uh on us and set
(02:54:24):
in one. Because it's you know, we had six kills, so there
wasn't a whole lot going on.We came out in the second you could
kind of see that we were tryingto kind of go and trying to kind
of go and and uh, it'sa real shame will happened, is Stucky?
Yeah, I mean that's that's that'sa real shame. It's uh heartbreaks
(02:54:48):
for her, you know. Andand those guys continue to play. They're
hitting percentage was pretty much the sameall five sets. But I mean that's
that's, that's that's a big dealfit you know, our team. It
was really kind of about us oftrying to get ourselves feeling a little bit
better and go on and and youknow, each of those three sets are
(02:55:09):
our hitting percentage went up. Youknow, it's it's hard to win a
set when you're you know, aroundforty and fifty percent side out, which
we were in the first two sets, and those last three we got it,
got it up around sixty and justjust kind of grinded. I thought.
Gig came in and and gave usa real real lift and and uh,
you know her and her and Sarahand uh uh and Ullah really handled
(02:55:37):
the service really well, that dida great job and we just just battled
in fault and one of those keymoments, and I think it was as
Gigi who stuck the pass when Floridawent up ten to eight, Crawford gets
to kill and that's kind of thekey moment, right the pass was stuck
up front by Gigi. CC getsto kill off that jump topspin nonetheless,
(02:55:58):
and then that five all run extendsthe match for your your team and you
take the lead after that. AndI think in there there's an izzy Ace
as well, a couple of hittingerrors by Florida, and that guy changed
the momentum of this of this fifthset. It did, you know,
not giving up on yourself. It'salways showed real resiliency. Trust. You're
right. I mean up until thatswinging the fifth uh CC had two kills
(02:56:20):
and uh, you know, hittingzero and you know she's up there on
time, set her trust at her, she got on top of the ball.
You're right, we stuck to passon a on a really good uh
top spin jump server. Uh.That was a big moment. It's of
course, you know it's gonna gowith five with the two teams. Of
(02:56:43):
course it's going to be two.One of the things that MJ set in
there to the team is pointing outon on match point. Last year it
was her setting Anna Smrek and Annagetting stuplocked and then last kill of the
matches Smerek ye not pulling down onthe ball going up, Aaron getting going
(02:57:03):
up, Aaron getting it high andhitting over. So it's a you know
that I'm sure that felt good andshe's been you know, back to back
season high as now and kill. Can you expand a little bit more on
just the role that she played todayfor your team? It was I mean
it was big. It's hitting hittingquicks, hitting in system, hitting out
(02:57:24):
a system. She's getting more comfortablebeing able to hit the right pen out
a system she had. She gota little bit anty on a couple of
those balls that got a little wonkyon her, but you know, overall
is she just she's managing her gamea lot more. You know, uh,
(02:57:46):
we gave up her we get early. We were giving up too many
all speed stuff. I mean, there was so many tips and rolls and
throws that we're just going down andit's just it's frustrating as it, you
know, as a team, becauseyou know that's A major emphasis of ours
is picking up the all speed stuff, and as the match went on,
(02:58:09):
we got better at picking that upand going and then and then controlling that
and getting swings out of those allspeed We did a lot better job of
that. Final question for you, what does it mean this is a big
game for your for your squad rightbefore non conference ten thy three twenty three,
a school record, hostile environment, elite team, and you're able to
(02:58:31):
get by that elite team. Whatdoes it mean for your team moving forward
now to the Big ten? Wegotta keep getting better, right It's a
uh and I think uh, Ithought we it's it's it's an important win
on the road of being able tocome in and the entire places is against
(02:58:54):
you and and battling back when you'renot playing well and just playing the playing
a cleaner version of the game.Uh. That's. Defensively, they are
really good. I mean, it'sa really good blocking team. They They've
got a you know, an armyof dus's that come in there and just
do a great job of fighting andkeeping the ball off off the floor and
(02:59:18):
not getting overly uh uh frustrated andjust staying with it is you know,
mentally they can really get to youand you know, and and real credit
to our players, I mean realcredit for it. It's a uh,
you know, we battled when wefalled. It was you know, most
of the match it was played andyou know, in the mud, and
(02:59:39):
uh, you gotta be okay withthat. And I'm not sure we've always
been great at that the past yearor two when it's just ugly of just
being just here, let's just goand grind and fight, and and uh,
we did a lot better job ofthat when we were over the time
out and in between sets were overthere on the bench. I really loved
what what was being said and thetalk. There wasn't any panic. It
(03:00:03):
was you know, it was themstaying together, a lot of encouragement and
positivity, no panic. It wasI've got a sign over their coach Sheffield
a player freshman of twenty thirty one. So it's a uh, don't want
to get you in a recruiting violation, but you might want to go over
(03:00:24):
there. Yeah. No, thecrowd here, the crowd here was was
absolutely awesome. I mean, thiswas a great environment and you know,
it's I think the story of theyear. You and I were talking about
this earlier. The story of theyear is is the attendance and people showing
up to all these matches, Imean just everywhere you go that are set
(03:00:50):
in prs and uh. It justmakes the environments really really fun and and
even harder to go into and tryto play well and and uh and try
to find a way to win.You know, obviously we were able to
do that today. So we'll takea big ten. Get started. Northwestern,
Timmy gets to go back. Hey, back there, and a new
(03:01:11):
story will happen. So yeah,a lot of good stuff. Congrats,
Thanks Tron. All Right, thereyou go. That's Wisconsin had coach Kelly
Sheffield. How about one final break. We'll make it quick. Sixty seconds
back with the final stats. Afterthis, you're listening to Wisconsin Badger Volleyball
presented by Goodmun's Jewelers, providing Sparkleto Madison for ninety years. This is

Badgers escape the swamp with a win. Here this afternoon in Gainesville in front
of like what Kelly Sheffield was saying, a record setting crowd. The crowds
(03:01:56):
in volleyball just back this week havebeen outstanding, of course this year,
the biggest one obviously Nebraska with theninety two thousand and three at a football
stadium. Wednesday, Wisconsin gathered seventeenthousand, thirty seven for a win.
(03:02:18):
Louisville, I believe had over twelvethousand at the KFC Yum Center for their
record setting attendance today, a record. They've jammed the place as full as
it can get ten thousand, threetwenty three here at Exact Tech Arena,
and Wisconsin wins a thrilling five setterin a reverse sweep, first time that's
(03:02:39):
happened for a Badger's team since thetwo thou eighteen season in a matchup against
Purdue. Let's take a look atthe final numbers. First, for Florida,
three players in double figures, ledby Kennedy Martin's thirteen kills and twelve
digs. She ends up with aone twenty two hitting percentage. Okamore kits
the art and goes off for acareer day eleven kills now errors, hit
(03:03:03):
six eighty eight chips in with fiveblocks. Fitzpatrick had eleven kills, nine
errors, hit er fifty three forFlorida after that, and very balanced Dixon
had nine. She was tough tostop with three aces, five digs and
three blocks. Had just one hittingerror nine from Victoria with also a block.
(03:03:24):
Of course. One of the bigstories for Florida, obviously is their
setter Alexa Stucky seventeen assists, fivedigs, but she left midway through the
second with a knee injury that appearsto be serious. Her replacement, a
Wisconsin kid, Kennedy Muff, comesin. I saw well Kelly Sheffield.
I was interviewing coach Sheffield there justa moment ago. Muff was meeting with
(03:03:48):
her parents close by, and youknow, tears in her eyes. But
man, she came in and almostled Florida to this upset win over Wisconsin.
She played fantastic twenty eight assists inace and seven digs and that's the
stats for Florida. Meanwhile, Wisconsinhad three players in double figures and leading
(03:04:16):
the way with the new season highis Anna Smreck. You know, a
match after going for fifteen, shegoes for sixteen hits, three forty three
gets, the game winning kill, match winning kill in the fifth had five
blocks. Sarah Franklin just kept poundingaway a team high forty seven swings,
thirteen kills, It's one seventy hada double double, ten digs, Robinson
(03:04:39):
ten kills, very efficient, threeforty eight off twenty three attack attempts,
also added a block for the Badgers. Crawford had a big kill in the
fifth. She finishes with three andtwo blocks and also chipped in with an
ace. Booth had five kills, two errors, six blocks. Four Wisconsin
(03:05:00):
and they needed every single one ofthose Izzy sixteen assists and thirteen digs MJ
twenty assists, seventeen digs and twoaces, including a clutch ace in the
fifth set that helped Wisconsin take athirteen to ten lead on a five oh
run by the Badgers, which wasprobably the critical juncture of this entire match.
(03:05:24):
With Florida up ten eight, theBadgers came battling back. CC got
a kill off a pass that wasstuck by Goots tech In off a nasty
jump serve by Hoyle, who justcame off an ace. They tried to
do as much as they could toice Oil and gg stuck to pass.
CC got the kill nine ten, hitting airor Florida ten ten. After that,
(03:05:48):
Sarah Franklin got the kill. MJgot an ace and after that hitting
aerror by Florida a five nothing runbefore Florida got one back and gave the
Badgers a three point lead at thirteenten. They would go on to win
by two at fifteen, thirteen andfive. So now nine and oh for
(03:06:09):
Wisconsin and up next the big ten, his coach Chef Field was alluding to.
Up next, it is Northwestern FridayNight on the Road in Evanston,
and that one starts at seven o'clockfirst served as after seven coverage begins.
It's always on the iHeartRadio App'd liketo thank Automentin for producing today in Madison
(03:06:31):
for Jessica Williams. I'm John Audiassaying goodbye from Exact Tech Arena in front
of a sellout ten thousand, threehundred twenty three. It took two hours,
fifty five minutes, but top rankedWisconsin takes out the Gators in five
