Frome you inside Lebon Arena here in Madison, Wisconsin. On
the campus of the University of Wisconsin Madison. My name
is Aiden Michaels. You're listening to Badger Women's hockey on
ten seventy the game. This is the pregame show presented
by Fields Madison, your premier luxury auto group, serving customers
since nineteen seventy one. A big weekend last weekend for Wisconsin.

(01:49):
They were in the twenty twenty five Icebreaker Tournament in Schenectady,
New York, hosted by Union College. A beautiful new arena there,
M ANDT Bank Center in downtown Schenectady. They beat Vermont
A in the semifinal game, and then they beat the
hosts Union College for nothing in the championship game, securing
their first trophy of the young season. Player of the

(02:09):
Tournament Lacey Eden had three goals and two assists in
that tournament. Five points for Lacey and then that red
hot second line Kelly Gurbtenko and Cassie Hall, both with
three goals in the tournament. Kelly Gurbtenko had four points
as she added an assist in the final, and Caroline
Harvey from the blue line not only was she amazing
defensively as usual, but she had two goals in the

(02:30):
championship game and then two assists in the tournament, so
four points for her in the tournament and Ava McNaughton
goaltender of the tournament, twenty seven saves, allowing just one
goal over both games. She had a shutout in the
championship game against Union College. Now a bit of an
interesting one obviously. Kirsten Simms went down to the lower
body injury in the championship game against Union last weekend,

(02:53):
so some lineup changes are having to be made here.
Mark Johnson slots in claire Enwright on the first line
in absence of Kirsten Simms. She'll be on there with Chappo,
Vallee Vova, and Lacey Eden. So claire Enwright moving up
from she had some time on the third and fourth
line this season, she will be up on the first
line today. Slotting in in the fourth line is Bella Vassur,

(03:13):
playing in just her seventh career game and first of
the season. She'll be in there with Mikayla Zillish and
Charlotte Peakinhagen. She'll center that line. Layla Edwards remaining out
for the Badgers, not on crutches. What we've seen, we
still don't know the extent of this injury, but it's
good to see that she's actually walking and not on crutches.
She doesn't need any assistance, so hopefully she will be

(03:34):
back soon, but for now she remains out. Grace Pickett
will be the extra skater in case the Badgers need
another defender. And we'll take a look at the line recap. So,
just as I said, Claire enright in the first line
with Chappa, Vallee, Vova, and Eden, that second line staying together.

Speaker 6 (03:48):
Of course, you can't break up those three.

Speaker 5 (03:50):
Kelly Gorbatanko on the left, Maggie Scannell on the right,
and Cassie Hall centering that line. Finley McCarthy and Hannah
Halverson on a line with Mary and Picard. And then
that fourth line with Bellevusur at center. Is Charlotte Pekahagen
on the right, Mikayla Zillish on the left defense pairing.
It's gonna switch up during the game, but it's pretty
similar to what we've seen. Caroline Harvey and Vivian Jungles

(04:10):
on that first pairing, Landy Potter Mackenzie Jones on the second,
and then Emma Venusio and Ava Murphy on that third
pairing for Minnesota State. Taylor o Tremba scored the only
goal in the series last weekend against number four Minnesota Duluth,
where they got swept. Taylor Oor Trumba scored in that
second game, they got shut out in the first. The
only conference win for them this season was a win
over Saint Thomas, who, by the way, are ranked for

(04:32):
the first time in their Division One era. Sophie Strammel
returning to Madison as her brother Charlie was a Badger
here a couple seasons ago. Now he's playing at Michigan State,
so she'll be back here today, and then looking at
the goaltenders, Hailey Hanson and av Of McNaughton starting between
the pipes today for their respective teams. Hailey Hanson, her
career high end saves was against Wisconsin in this building

(04:54):
a couple seasons ago. McNaughton looking for her second straight
shut out. The Badger's looking for their ninth win nine
games and extend their undefeated streak to double digits as
they remain the number one spot in the nation. Paul
Brown had a chance to talk to head coach Mark
Johnson ahead of today's game. So we're going to take
a listen. This is the Coach's Corner presented by Fields Madison.

Speaker 7 (05:14):
Back on the pregame showed Paul Brown with UW hockey
coach Mark Johnson. This portion brought to you by a
Gape Ranch. Nice place for you to go. It's Leslie
and Mark's dream so to speak. Mark, quickly, if I
take a young person out to your ranch when it opens,
what's going to happen.

Speaker 8 (05:31):
Well, they're going to get loved in regards to coming
onto a space that whether it's with horses, whether it's
working in a garden, whether they're going into a chicken coop,
getting an opportunity to work with their hands out in
the nature, and depending on what they want to do.

Speaker 9 (05:48):
With horses, it's a process where we think that.

Speaker 8 (05:51):
Kids that are young and struggling, and you connect them
with horses, you have a chance to create hope for them.
So as they need the property, hopefully they got a
big smile on their face and there's hope in their life.

Speaker 7 (06:01):
And if you want further information, go to Agape Ranch,
wi dot com and all the information is there. Now
let's talk hockey. Mark, you started the season, you're undefeated.
You want a tournament over this past weekend, you've already
had five shoutouts, and it goes on and on and
on and on.

Speaker 10 (06:21):
So at this point, things are going pretty well.

Speaker 9 (06:23):
Things are and there's been some adversities along the way.

Speaker 8 (06:26):
You know, we've had some injuries, especially to some of
our key personnel, and so every season is you're gonna
have windows of things that maybe not go your way
or you're running some injuries, and then you have to
adjust and the next person has to step up.

Speaker 9 (06:38):
And we've been able to do it at this point.

Speaker 8 (06:41):
Playing a couple of non conferences games last weekend in
a tournament setting, and now we get back into the
grind of the WCCHA was after and against Minnesota State,
and so you know, if can we continue to do
some of the things we did last game we played
Saturday against Union. What I liked about is that we
competed from start to finish. And that's all the coach
can ask them their players and their team is that

(07:04):
they come out when they drop the puck, they compete
at a real high level and they do that throughout
the game. And I thought last Saturday we were able
to do that and hopefully we continue that process this afternoon.

Speaker 7 (07:13):
Sims and Edwards are the two that are out of
the lineup mark. But you've got a very talented team,
a team that's confident, and that kind of thing injuries
are part of the game, is a different kind of
from year to year with a type of personnel that
you have and the mentality when things like that happen,
how do you approach that or what do you do
with it?

Speaker 8 (07:32):
Well, if you have depth and then have kids that
are good players that maybe aren't getting.

Speaker 9 (07:38):
You know, the sixteen, eighteen twenty minutes of ice time
that they're looking for, they're getting at twelve or fourteen.

Speaker 8 (07:44):
As they progress, you know, when their opportunity comes to
increase their minutes, are they ready? And so the nice
thing is that you know, we're practicing against each other,
and we obviously practice more than we play.

Speaker 9 (07:55):
So those kids, you know, get elevated and practice when.

Speaker 8 (07:59):
They're going out during a one on one with KK Harvey,
or they're trying to stop Sims a one on one,
or they're trying to get the puck away.

Speaker 9 (08:06):
From the laylass.

Speaker 8 (08:06):
So they're learning and getting experience from you know, world
class players and so when it's their turn to step
up and take a swing, you know they're ready and
that's what you have to do. And so we've been
fortune the last couple of years to have some depth
in our lineup, so when we do sustain an injury,
you know that next person that's going to take those
minutes as well prepared.

Speaker 10 (08:26):
Marcus.

Speaker 7 (08:27):
In my imagination, I've only been around the women's program
now for about a year and a half having a
lot of fun with it.

Speaker 10 (08:33):
It seems like it's getting more physical. Or am I
wrong about that?

Speaker 8 (08:37):
No, you've yeah, and we've talked about it as coaches
at our annual meetings. But you know, every probably the
last three to four years, this year being a situation
you know where he had a fight.

Speaker 9 (08:49):
After the game to Mineso to Ohio State, had.

Speaker 8 (08:51):
Some suspensions, and so you know, we have an opportunity
and a short window to figure out what type of
league we want to be and how we.

Speaker 9 (08:58):
Want to play the game. I know I would agree wholeheartedly.

Speaker 8 (09:01):
And part of it is, you know what the players
are seeing with a PWHL and what they are able
to do over their two years in existence. It's much
more a physical game that is in college, and so
we're sort of at this cross road what direction we
want to go. But I would agree with you it
has gotten much more physical.

Speaker 10 (09:16):
What can you do about it?

Speaker 8 (09:17):
Well, you just have the rules have to be set,
and the biggest one is you know what's a check,
what's hitting, and what's legal and what's not legal. And
so the rule book you know, defines, you know, what
a check looks like, but then you have these gray
areas where you might think it's a check, but I
don't think it's a check when you go back and forth.

Speaker 9 (09:33):
And so my big thing is the safety of the players.
On the boys side. You know, when you enter first
year Banham, you're allowed to check. So they figure that out,
they get taught how to check.

Speaker 8 (09:42):
There's no space in women's hockey and girls' hockey where
we teach them, you know, the physical components of the game,
because that's not initially the way the game is designed
to be played on the women's side.

Speaker 7 (09:52):
And who determines that the coaches in the league or
how would you if you were going to make changes,
would that be done in the summertime.

Speaker 10 (09:58):
At the meetings?

Speaker 9 (09:59):
That would part of it.

Speaker 8 (10:00):
And then you know NCA has got to come in
with you know, what's a rule. So if they want
to change, you know, the emphasis on checking, Okay, what's
that look like. But each league, you know, and Greg
Jeffards are supervisor of officials and so he talks with
our officials. So you know, after that first game against
the luth down there, you know, he had a conversation
with the referee saying, hey, that game's to fiscal All
that stuff pushing and stuff after the whistle needs to

(10:22):
be eliminated. So you know, hopefully we see some more
things brought in so that you know, the safety of
our players is still in tame Mark.

Speaker 7 (10:30):
You have some players that are going to get more
opportunity because of the injuries and that kind of thing,
like Zillish and Vasser and people like that, and and
right up there in the number one line.

Speaker 8 (10:41):
Yeah, I mean, she's she's got a great hockey IQ,
she's a good skater, and now she gets an opportunity
to play with.

Speaker 9 (10:47):
You know, a couple of players that are a little
different than normally.

Speaker 8 (10:51):
She plays with the card and last year, if you
played with UA, she's been playing with helpers in this year,
so it's a little different look, but I think she can.
You know, she can fit that role because she understands
the games so well. She's a good passer, and so
let's see if she can ship a goal in here
too or make a play to create a goal.

Speaker 7 (11:06):
Hey, power play, they haven't been able to score on you.
What's the key tobout of the penalty kill?

Speaker 8 (11:12):
Probably goaltending and that's where the you know, the puck
eventually stops. And you know if your goalies making saves,
because teams are going to get chances, they're going to
get looks because you know they have the extra player
and if they win face off, so inssion to act
the power play, they're gonna.

Speaker 9 (11:26):
Have put possession in your zone.

Speaker 8 (11:28):
So the second step is can you get sticks and
break up passes in block shots when you need to?
And you know it's still early in the ear and
as we go through the next four or five weeks,
we'll get tested in that space and hopefully we continue
to have success in it one.

Speaker 10 (11:41):
Final, what do you expect out of Minnesota State?

Speaker 9 (11:44):
Similar to you know what we saw the midgie.

Speaker 8 (11:46):
Similarly you know what we saw in Maine, you know
a little more scoring punch with it within this group.
And again you always seem to talk about their goaltender
seems to be playing well and giving them a chance
to win.

Speaker 9 (11:58):
Games, and you know that's sort of them of our league.

Speaker 8 (12:02):
So whether we're talking about man Cato or talk about
Saint Cloud or next week Minnesota, I mean same conversation.
So it's a great league. A lot of good players,
a lot of good coaches. Gives us gray hairs. But
that's why we do what we want to do and
get ourselves in a position to make each team that
you're representing, you know, whether the other coaches are ourselves
there at Wisconsin, you know the best team are capable

(12:24):
of becoming.

Speaker 9 (12:25):
And that's the journey around.

Speaker 10 (12:26):
One final one. How do you look in a cowboy
hat when you got to Sagape Ranch?

Speaker 11 (12:31):
Going?

Speaker 9 (12:32):
Actually pretty good? But I love better in hockey skats
than I do.

Speaker 8 (12:35):
It's cowboys, but at least my feet are more comfortable
in hockey skates than cowboy boots.

Speaker 10 (12:39):
Good luck, Mark, thank you.

Speaker 7 (12:56):
We're back in Labon Arena with a playing in the
singing of our national land them. We'll see if we
can pick it up here. We're in levond Arena on

(13:25):
a Saturday afternoon as the Wisconsin Badgers return to WCCHA
play as they'll take on the Mavericks of Minnesota State
in Mancato, Minnesota. There'll be a ceremonial dropping of the
puck here with somebody that you're very familiar with Greene,
and that's Jesse Vedder. Tell us about Jesse's had a

(13:47):
great career at Wisconsin.

Speaker 11 (13:48):
Wonderful young lady in her four years here. Richard one
year at the beginning, was in the championship game for
all four of her competitive years and won three of
those four national title games. Pretty amazing and a great
human being.

Speaker 7 (14:03):
And I'll tell you what the string of goaltenders for
the Badger women's program, which you are involved with in
the coaching aspect, has really been pretty phenomena.

Speaker 11 (14:13):
Yeah, they've been a group that's you know, they possess
some qualities that you really got to have. I mean,
they are willing to work, willing to listen and learn,
and they're just competitive, great attitude.

Speaker 7 (14:27):
Wisconsin comes in with a perfect record, they are eight
to zero in the year of Minnesota State is five
and three, and we'll have the dropping of the ceremonial tuck.
KK Harvey's going to come out for the Badgers and
do it with oh Tremba Minnesota state man Cato. In
terms of Wisconsin, they still got the adversity. They've got

(14:49):
a couple of players out of the lineup. Edwards is
not playing, Kirsten Simms is not playing, two of your
premier players. It does give others the opportunity, however, to
step up, so to speak.

Speaker 11 (15:02):
Yeah, we're gonna get a real test here to see
what kind of depth we have and see if these players,
like you just said, can step up and produce and
provide some of that offensive production.

Speaker 7 (15:12):
And for example, Claire Enright's going to be on the
left side on the number one line with Shape, Valley,
Bova and Eden and that kind of thing. Zilich and
Vassour will play with picken Hagen on the fourth line.
So there's names that you're not normally familiar with that
are going to get an opportunity to step up here exactly.

Speaker 11 (15:35):
And en Right is a good example of she's got
a high hockey IQ, you know, so it allows her
to play with different combinations of people and fit right in.

Speaker 7 (15:45):
Badgers will be skating from our right to our left
here in the opening period and the Mavericks of Minnesota
State will be skating from our left to our right.
Game two of the series will be tomorrow afternoon Sunday
at two o'clock. Badger Men are playing and they'll be
back in action tonight over at the Coal Center as

(16:07):
they take on a last Anchorage.

Speaker 11 (16:09):
Yeah they will last night. Huh they won last night.

Speaker 7 (16:12):
Yep. The opening line is Van Batavia along with Old,
Tremba and Gillomette for Minnesota State, Man Cato against n Wright, Shappel, Valley,
Boba and Eden. And we're underway and the Badgers play
it at center ice. They'll work it down to the corner.
It goes in behind Hanson, the goaltender for the Mavericks,

(16:35):
and Van Tavia turning trying to bring it out of
the zone, does off in the pass on the left
side of the Guillamette. Then they'll change up. Badgers go
back in their own zone. They'll start out on the
near boards, coming up the right side. They play it
down in the corner. It goes back in behind Hanson,
Hansen cut it off. The Mavericks turn and they bring

(16:57):
it out Bishoff Straamole and Tuddle her out on their
forward line. Eden is out still with Shappy Valoboba along
with enright for the Badgers, KK Harvey paired defensively with
Vivian Jungles. Play comes through center eye, center of the
line with it as Scambo Scamo back in the back

(17:18):
in her in front, kicked out night say puck, ah,
my goodness, and Scramble almost got the rebound there, boy.
I'll tell you what. Hansen showed a little quickness back
and forth in that crease area there on that one.

Speaker 11 (17:35):
Yes, she did. There were about two opportunities there where
I thought the puck was going to end up in
the net, and she answered the.

Speaker 7 (17:40):
Bell based off coming up to the right side. Back
in the Maverick zone, Scandal is out with Haul and Garbatanco.
Garbatanco goes out in front. Shot oh, just wide by.
Scandal looked like she had the upper corner, but she
just missed him out on the side the left wing.
The Badgers play it over to the right boards over

(18:01):
to try and pick it up. Binucio back in behind
Gorbatanco stick handling with the puck down on the corner
on the left side. Wisconsin trying to pick it up
behind their own net. And turning trying to bring it out.
Badger's look to hold it in with Gorbatanco around over
this scannel just inside the blue line. Cycle load deep
in the zone by Hall banged around the boards, turning

(18:24):
to try and bring it out as Lopez, who's out
with puppy and bulling for Minnesota State. Maverick try to
play it up the boards on the right side, and
we'll have a nicing called here in the early part.
What are you see in your greene?

Speaker 11 (18:39):
Well, I really saw a great shift out of that
crew that just got offs in particular, Scandal created a
couple opportunities for yourself. That was nice. Good offensive pressure there,
good for checking.

Speaker 7 (18:52):
And we'll have the face off coming up to the
left side of Haley Hanson back in the zone of
the Mavericks out his Chapo Valley. Vova Eden is out
again on that forward line, comes around over to Potter.
Potter with a drive and I went into the glove
of Haley Hansen, who makes the save. She is four

(19:13):
and three this year with a one point eighty six
goals against abbage save percentage of better than ninety three percent.
Badgers in the first period have scored nine goals they've
scored forty four goals on the year and only allowed six.
Comes back to the point on the left side. It
comes around over to Potter, Potter trying to play it

(19:35):
toward the high slot. Potter looking to hold it in
and the puck is loose in front of the Maverick
bench center ice. Badger's turn back int the line. They
come working the wing on the left side and Eden
the round over the Chapo valley. Vova in behind, out
in front and right with a shot that was clear
from her stick, but n right will bang it off

(19:56):
the sidewalk, played around the boards. Mckn comes in over mackenzie.
Jones trying to hold the zone for the Badgers palk
along the boards near side Mavericks trying to get it out.
Shots on goal four for the Badgers, none for Minnesota State.
Goes around over to mackenzie, back over to McCarthy. McCarthy
in over the line with Picard and Halberson on all

(20:19):
that forward line legs that one carry him through the
crease almost got in there. Harvey around on the far side.
Off on the play, there's a shot high and wide
of the goal. Badgers with pressure trying to play it
to the points going to be turned back by Bishop,
played it in over the Wisconsin line. Wisconsin down on
the corner back of their own zone, will look to

(20:41):
bring it out on the fore checked by the Mavericks.
They got three players inside the blue line and whistle
and play is going to be stopped at the blue
line of Wisconsin.

Speaker 11 (20:51):
You know, Paul, that was an off sides there, But
that was an example of you know, we had puck
possession for almost a good chunk of the three and
a half minutes into the game, but we just turned
it over to blue line and unfortunately they went off side.

Speaker 7 (21:03):
Sixteen minutes forty two seconds for many, we've got our
first penalty of the game has been called here and
going to the penalty box, and it's at three eighteen
the time of the penalty as Bishoff goes in. Yep.
Badgers on the power play. They are nine power play

(21:27):
goals to the plus coming into the season. They have
not allowed a power play goal to be scored against them.
KK Harvey leads the Badgers in power play goals with
a total of three coming around the boards on the
near side one thirty five reminting in the penalty time
KK Harvey inside the line, Badgers look to set it up.

(21:48):
They'll work it around down to the corner on the
far boards, Wisconsin controlling it. They have the power play
on here, Shapo valley Bova on the far point controlling
the puckstick candling with a round on the play, give
and go back over to valley Bova. It comes to
Cassie Hall, back out on top, over to KK Harvey.

(22:08):
Harvey with it with a shot block kicked out of
the rebound, fire.

Speaker 11 (22:11):
Shot a goal man.

Speaker 7 (22:14):
Cassie Hall got the rebound and she fired home er
nice ball. The Kevin Wisconsin leads it one to nothing
and Cassie Hall is on a goal scoring bin.

Speaker 11 (22:28):
That was wonderful, Paul. And what a big rebound. I
mean she shot that from outside the right dot and
scored on that rebound. That's how wide of a rebound
it was. Man. A big blast by KK Harvey originally
to put it on net to create that situation where
the rebound went out to Hall. Nice goal.

Speaker 7 (22:50):
Nice goal, Yes it was, and it's going to be
played back on at center ice in the one to
nothing game. The Badger's tenth powerplay goal of the year
set up down on the corner on the near side,
shot six to nothing in the game. Wisconsin back down
on the corner, back over the Gorbatanco trying to go
right out in front's going to be turned away and

(23:11):
coming back up ice with it as bowling, and Wisconsin
comes in over the line, back down to the corner.
Ava Murphy trying to get away from a fore check
of Minnesota State back in the Badger zone near boards,
coming over to pick it up. There's a shot Ava
McNaught and steered that one away fifteen oh nine remaining
in the first period. Badgers go over to pick it up.

(23:34):
Pikenhaugen with it out on the line with Vassour and
Zilish and Wisconsin in over the line. There's a shot
by Venusio, the Venusio back going to Aba Murphy at
the points that goes to Bricard back along the back
wall in the Maverick zone near boards, Badgers trying to
set it up. Both teams now at full strength and

(23:56):
Wisconsin with the lead won to nothing in the power
play goal cauar it in over the line. The Mavericks
Sir gonna try and set it up, but clearing it
was Mackenzie Jones, forcing the play to go wide. Going
back over, Venusio and Picard try to work the corner.
Venusio will pick it up, try to backhand it out
of the zone. The Mavericks look to hold it in.

Speaker 11 (24:18):
And they do.

Speaker 7 (24:19):
They move it in. There's a shot backhand are taking
just lot of the goal. Good set up on the
play there and Rosky almost had the scoring opportunity around
the boards on the far side. Back in behind over
to Picard. Percard turned try to get help to bring
it back out of the zone. Alverson is out along

(24:39):
with Picard on the line. Anna McCarthy back in behind.
Wisconsin in behind their own net looking to set it up.
Play it around on the far side, comes through center eyes.
Badgers come back in over the line, just inside the
blue line over to pick it up and try to
control it down on the corner far board with its

(25:00):
tuttle tuttle turns and out comes the Mavericks. They play
it to the Badger line where Potter broke it up
back in over the line of the Minnesota State. Mavericks
whistle and play we'll be stopped.

Speaker 11 (25:13):
Well, I tell you, good puck possession still by our team,
but you know he did get a scoring opportunity. Mankato
did there when we turn it over, gotta be careful.

Speaker 7 (25:25):
A couple of assists on the goal that was scored
there by Cansi Hall, her ninth goal of the year.
KK Harvey and Chapo Valley Boba also picked up an
assist on that goal.

Speaker 11 (25:41):
Yappy, She's going to take the face off here too,
to the right of the goaltender.

Speaker 7 (25:50):
Ninth assists of the year for KK Harvey and the
fifth of the year for Schapo Valley Boba. Badger's setting
it up, played back down on the corner. One nothing
score here and Wisconsin working the boards on the far side,
trying to control the zone. Back out they come the

(26:12):
Mavericks to centerize. Shots are six to one in the game.
Laid back down on the corner on the far boards.
Badgers did score on the power plays, so they're one
for one and Wisconsin turns and out they come. Enright
comes in over the line. Enright's goy Eden with her
Enright and Chappie Vallevoba. It's going to be played back

(26:34):
in behind. Ava McNaughton cutting it off, works it around
the boards. Ava's seventeen shutouts in her career at Wisconsin
and already has picked up sixty four wins. Comes over
to try and control it. They play it through the
crease of Wisconsin on the far side. It's going to
be held in. There's a drive in traffic blocked by Wisconsin,

(26:55):
held in by Minnesota State shot tip watt of the
goal with a little pressure here. They'll work it down
of the corner, trying to get it around to Van
but Taba Van but Taba with help and that's Van
but Taba in the high slot covering it up and
to heavy traffic in front of the Badger net Van

(27:17):
but Tava tried to control it. Badgers. Oh and there's
a check and that's going to be called on Vivian
Jungles as she checked one of the Mavericks into the board.

Speaker 11 (27:28):
Yeah, they both went down, Paul, but they both hit
the boards pretty hard, and evidently the officials concluded that
was generated by Vivian Jungles. So she'll sit down for
two minutes.

Speaker 7 (27:40):
Eight point fifty nine the time of the penalty, and
we'll have a powerplay situation coming up for Minnesota State.
Man Cato Badgers leading it one to nothing, see what
they can do on the penalty killed. They have been
perfect so far this year. They've had twenty five power

(28:00):
play situations. They've not allowed one goal in all twenty
five opportunities. There's a shot went, a lot of the
goal coming around the boards, coming up, Ice trying to control,
tried to hit Eden on the lead, played back down
on the corner on the far side. Asked Mark about
the success on the power play, and he goes one

(28:22):
of the keys is obviously goaltending. Yeah, around on the
far side, coming over to try and control it, and
Wisconsin trying to get out whistle and play is going
to be stopped at the blueline.

Speaker 11 (28:34):
Yeah, and a penalty kill, Paul, your best penalty killer
better be your goalie, right, Yeah, exactly. Yeah. They do
a nice job, those units that go out there and
kill those penalties. Pretty consistent obviously.

Speaker 7 (28:47):
And picking it up and control to get the Badgers
have one twenty remitting before they're back at full strength.
Here's Potter moving it in and shot hit the side
of the net, cleared away by Bishoff on the lea
at center eyes the Mavericks. He'll dump it down to
the right wing corner of the Badger's zone. And Ava
McNaughton works it around the wing on the near side,

(29:09):
trying to control it. Play back down in the corner
and Wisconsin just inside their own bullline trying to They collapse.
Now with the powerplay situation, shot it wide of the goal.
Mavericks has set it up on the far side. Badgers
try to take it away here and get it out
of the zone and the power play, and they do.
They'll dump it the length of the ice, place block

(29:32):
by Kekey Harvey and going back over to control it.
Coming up ice with it. That's goalsworthy off in the
past thirty seconds fromitting on the power play for the Mavericks.
They come back into the Wisconsin line, drive it around
to the far side. Wisconsin leading in the game, won
to nothing on Cassie Hall's ninth goal of the year.

(29:53):
Here's a chase between Eden and Goldsworthy chapel valley Vova
back over to Eden with a drive, Hansen with his
and Eden holds it in fired it to the slot.
Binusio pulls up on the far boards out on top,
there's a drive and Hanson covers up and makes the save.
We're gonna take a break. This is Wisconsin Badger's women's hockey.

(30:18):
Five remaining in the first period, Wisconsin has killed off
the power play of the Mavericks of Minnesota State out
of Mancato, Minnesota. Badger's got their goal of the game
at four thirteen of the period by Cassie hall r
ninth goal of the year. KK Harvey got her ninth
assist of the year and Adela's Shapeo Valley Boba picked

(30:40):
up the assist, her fifth of the year, and the
Mavericks will clear it out and it's flipped ahead on
the play by Tuttle and Tuttle drove it in on
Ava McNaughton, who put away her third save so far
in the third period, and a timeout has been called,
one mandatory in each intermission. Will take a break. This

(31:00):
is Wisconsin Badger Women's hockey, brought to you by Oak
Park Plays. You can take both thirties. We're ready to go.
Nine thirty two remitting here in the first period of play.

(31:22):
The Badgers have a one to nothing lead. Wisconsin is
averaging over five goals per game, almost six and they've
only allowed six goals in eight games so far, and
they've had five shutouts already this year and Wisconsin. We'll
be get a shot the ball by Chapou Belly Bubba

(31:45):
who kicked up the loose pluck in front of the
net and slumped it home for fourth goal of the season. Wow.

Speaker 11 (31:53):
Just continuing to go to the net, you know, good
offensive Ford checking loose cluck. Chaffie. He's right there on
the gold malt and slaps it in to the right
of the goaltender just inside the pipe. Nice goal by shopping.

Speaker 7 (32:09):
Ken thirty nine the time of the goal by Adela
Chapel Valley Bova.

Speaker 11 (32:16):
You got that name down patent now, Paul.

Speaker 7 (32:18):
Well, we've been working on it.

Speaker 11 (32:20):
You're pretty smooth.

Speaker 7 (32:21):
Tongue around on the far side over to try and
pick it up and down deep in the corner, played
around the boards over to come and pick it up.
Wisconsin with a two to nothing lead. Here and see
who they got the assists by Harvey. Harvey gets won.

Speaker 11 (32:43):
There might be one other one too, I'm not sure,
but okay, Shappie's taking the draw here to the right
of Ava right now.

Speaker 7 (32:55):
They don't have it that way. Oh okay, we'll have
to wait and see. Yep, they've got it for Cassie Hall.
The Riyah ice deceive me.

Speaker 11 (33:06):
Yeah, I don't know what the heck, I don't know.

Speaker 7 (33:08):
Back in over the line, controlling it over to try
and pick it up, moving it around on the far side,
over to try and control it. No, they got shappy
assist to n right, that's right, and en Wright got
the assists. Okay, So I was thinking, and I know
my eyeside changed, but that one, that one now looked

(33:32):
a little strange for a minute, didn't quite add up.
Good coming over to pick it up. Well, it is
sixteen and twenty six, I guess right around on the
far side, it's two to nothing Wisconsin with eight twelve
remaining here in the first period of play, and Wisconsin
has eleven shots up on the board three so far.

(33:56):
Four Minnesota state man Cato. The Badgers are averaging forty
eight shots a game. Coming back over to pick it up,
controlling it, coming through neutral ice, coming around over to Gorbatanco,
comes back in over the line, controlling it. Badgers go
back and they'll control it in their own zone. Wisconsin
works it up ice Aba Murphy with it, slides it

(34:17):
ahead on the play over to Gorbatanco, who dumped it back,
and it's going to be chased and picked up and
controlled by Kennon Bomb then and Bomb bangs it around
the boards, trying to break it out of their own zone.
Badgers hold the zone with pressure on the near boards.
Wisconsin back in league play, they lead the WCCHA and

(34:39):
coming in over the line. Here's per Card with it,
the card with the drive, and it's kicked out in
traffic and round on the far side, back out over
the Venusio, around over to Murphy. Murphy with a shot
when wide of the goal, turning trying to bring it
out as Hassler, but Wisconsin will dump it back down

(35:00):
in the corner as Emma Venusio.

Speaker 11 (35:03):
But whistle and play is going to be stopped. Yeah,
it looks like they're going to face it off here
to the right of Eva. Oh my bad, the left
of Eva.

Speaker 7 (35:17):
Adela's Chappie bell Abova was the preseason picks the freshman
of the year.

Speaker 11 (35:24):
Well, she's on her way.

Speaker 7 (35:26):
Yeah, true, you know a lot of expectations put on
her young shoulders.

Speaker 11 (35:32):
Yeah.

Speaker 7 (35:32):
Around on the far side, over to try and pick
it up, and there's a drive. It went wide of
the goal. Six forty four remaining Badgers have been really
almost unbeatable here at Lebond Arena and coming around over
to try and pick it up. In fact, Wisconsin twenty
five to one in their last twenty six games here

(35:55):
at lebon and it's going to be driven back in
on ab Murphy and taking a shop at it. There.
Wisconsin comes out of the zone, controlling it, moving up ice.
Aber Murphy comes in over the line where it we'll
flip it around the boards. That rolls back toward the
right point. Badgers look to hold it in at the
point and of Minnesota State back hands it out in

(36:17):
the clearing pass by Tuddele coming over to pick it up.
In that shot driven wide of the goal as it
was fired by Zawoiski just inside the blue line. So
Weisky getting it back again, fired and wide and around
over to Aba Murphy who tried to control it. Play
in the neutral zone rink wide. Hey, here comes KK

(36:38):
Harvey comes in over the line. Harvey backhanded, centering paths
behind a good play there, nobody home for the Badgers
eating with it, eating behind the net the Chapeau Valley
Boba and down in the corner on the far side,
it's Harvey with it. Harvey back in front, moving it in.
Chafo with the drive right on the SA.

Speaker 11 (37:00):
From the slot and Hansen squared up and gobbled it up.
No rebound to be had.

Speaker 7 (37:07):
Two penalties have been called in the game. Minnesota State
did not convert on their power play opportunity, but the
Badgers did on the goal that was scored buy Cassie Hall.
Cassie Hall now has three power play goals on the years,
so does KK Harvey. They lead the club in that category.

(37:29):
Badgers hold it in. Wisconsin around and Gorbatanco right on
with a drive and comes back over to KK Harvey
at the point around to the far side, played it
over the jungles. Jungles tried to hold the zone at
the right point, back handing it on the far wing.
It's going to be turned away by strumming, shrumming around

(37:50):
the boards. Minnesota State trying to get it out. Gorbatanko
holding it in. Garbatanco goes down in the corner, slides
up against the back wall, held in the Gorbatanco up
with the puck down on the corner on the right side,
trying to work her way loose from Strami. Badgers in front.
They haven't cleared off their stick, but it's held in

(38:11):
by Jungles, who plays it back in behind and out
of the Mavericks. Badgers try to hold the puck there
and Hall tried to hold his zone. Minnesota State finally
getting it out of the zone and there's a drive
widt of the goal. The Mavericks look to hold it in.
That's Tuttle on the far boards. Badgers turn and try
to work it out of the zone. Wisconsin over to

(38:33):
pick it up. We have four point fifteen remaining in
the first period, two to nothing. Wisconsin back handed around
by McCarthy off the boards in behind the goal. Badgers
look to try and set it up and see if
they can keep in the zone, but it's picked up
by Kennenbaum. Kenn and Baum around on the plane near
boards towards center ice on the play ahead to Tunnel

(38:56):
and that drive went into the glove of Harvey and
tucked it away. How are you seeing the first period?

Speaker 11 (39:04):
Well, we've had a lot of puck possession and we've
had some good aggressive for checking. I like that we're
not making many mistakes. We killed off one penalty and
scored on a power play opportunity, so pretty good so far.

Speaker 7 (39:17):
Badgers are eight and oh on the year. They are
four and o on the WCHA. They have twelve points.
They lead Minnesota and Ohio State, or who are tied
for second place. How about Minnesota and Ohio State. Last weekend,
they had a suspension at the end of the game.
Two players, one for the Gophers and one for the Buckeyes,

(39:38):
came out of the penalty box. And that's one of
the first times I've heard about suspensions in women's hockey
and the WCHA.

Speaker 11 (39:48):
You're right, Paul, Typically that does not happen, and hopefully
that won't happen again.

Speaker 7 (39:53):
Based off coming up to the left side, Dave, they
got one game suspensions, by the way, already remaining Wisconsin
looking for the puck and McCarthy was held up and
went down, and she got up and was looking left
and right, couldn't trace it down.

Speaker 11 (40:09):
She would have caught that pass and then neutral zone,
but was unable when she fell down or was taken down.
And now we'll have an icing face off back in
her own end.

Speaker 7 (40:18):
Mark talking about on the pregame show that there's not
supposed to be any checking in women's college chockey, and
he goes the game is getting more physical than it's
been in the past. They got to really clarify what
is checking right, what's acceptable, and what isn't around on
the far side over to try and control it. Wisconsin
bringing it up. Ice comes back into the line that

(40:40):
was played by Pekenhaugen. Pekanhaugen, another one of the freshmen,
Charlotte's her name. She's out of Ontario playing for the Badgers.
And it's played around the wall by Picard down on
the corner of the near side, coming over to try
to hold the zone. Van Batava around far boards, over

(41:00):
to try and pick it up. Van Vitava six to one,
coming back in over the line. Here's en Right En
Right with the drive and that went up against the
netting and that'll stop to play with two fifty six
remaining in the period, fourteen to four and shots Badgers
with the lead and the lead in shots obviously.

Speaker 11 (41:21):
Yeah, fourteen to four into YEP facing off here with
Chaffie in the circle. See if she wins the draw.

Speaker 7 (41:31):
And going back over to try and control it, coming
up Ice with it in the neutral zone, coming over
to try and set it up. It's going to be
played back around of the far side, and it's good
down on the corner back out on top of the play,
there's a drive and a shot. They're saved by Ava McNaughton.

Speaker 11 (41:50):
Boy, uh, Eden went out there to block that shot.
I'm kind of glad it didn't. Ever, that looked like
a blast, a hard one from the left point. Nice
saved by Eva with the glove.

Speaker 7 (42:02):
Next weekend the Minnesota Golden Gophers will be in town.
Be a big weekend. The men are playing the Gophers too.

Speaker 11 (42:11):
Yeah, that will be big. You know it's uh in
our border battle plus two Yeah yeah, double dipping.

Speaker 7 (42:18):
Yeah, Ronald the far side over to try and control it.
My understanding is Minnesota looks and SODA's the Ohio state
for that matter, Andeluth, But Minnesota apparently looks and is talented. Yeah, sure,
very talent. They got it.

Speaker 11 (42:34):
They got their previous players that are back, and then
they got a couple of good freshmen night here.

Speaker 7 (42:39):
Well, and then they got the feisty one that's back
and Dave Murphy Yeah yeahs Agator right.

Speaker 11 (42:48):
Yeah, she's a good player too.

Speaker 7 (42:50):
Yeah, she is a good player. It'll be on the
Olympic team up.

Speaker 11 (42:52):
Yep, you're right and deservedly so.

Speaker 7 (42:54):
Yep Man one fifty six A menting here along the
boards on the near side. There's a drive in front,
a back handed toward the net and stopping your player.

Speaker 11 (43:04):
A lot of traffic. I'm glad Ava could keep her
eyes on that one to glove it clean. True traffic
is always a challenge.

Speaker 7 (43:13):
Fourteen to six and shots two to nothing. Game scoring
Cassie Hall ninth goal of the year. She had forty
seven goals in her career coming into this season. She's
off to a nice fast start here, isn't she? Yes,
she is round on the far side one forty three,
reminting in the period, back in behind Mackenzie Jones looking

(43:34):
for help. Badgers try to it's held in Van Batavia
there doing the job, holding it in the zone. Badger's
turn and they'll play it back down to the bullline
of the Mavericks. They turn and come back in over
the line, off in the wing and pulling the trigger.
Ava McNaughton with the save against men Batavia.

Speaker 11 (43:55):
I'm glad she could love that clean again because they
had a player right there the paint if there was
a rebound to be had, But no such luck, thank god.

Speaker 7 (44:05):
One twenty one remaining in the period. Badgers have the
top offense in the country with forty four goals. They
have the top defense in the country, only allowing six goals.
They're tops in the country for shutouts with a total
of five. They're number one in the country in terms

(44:28):
of power play and back in behind that ere's eating
out in front, back out on top bnusio slapping or
stick on the ice made to save. Badgers are ranked
number one in the country. And you got to go
all the way back until September of twenty four to
find when the Badgers weren't ranked number one in women's

(44:51):
college hockey. They've won twenty one games in a row.
They're on beaten in their last thirty five games.

Speaker 11 (45:00):
Oh, you know, we just take them one at a time.
So I really, I really, I didn't realize it was
that long of a streak. I really didn't.

Speaker 7 (45:07):
Yeah, you know, around on the far side in terms
of that, but coming back over to pick it up
and around the boards on the near side over to
end right, less than a minute remaining in the period,
Wisconsin with a two goal lead here and the Mavericks
pull up inside the Badger line trying to work it
down the bishoff in the corner of the right boards.

(45:28):
Also there is tunnel on that forward line with Stramo,
Wisconsin turning it out. They come on the far side.
Twenty five seconds remating Badgers come in over the line,
straddling the blue line with Shapel Valley Bova and coming
around the Mavericks will turn and come up ice, They'll
bring it out of their own zone. They'll play it

(45:48):
back down in the corner. We're down to ten seconds
remaining in the period, Wisconsin with a two to nothing lead,
two penalties called in the game, and Wisconsin trying to
play it out here and that's going to be the
end of the first period of play two nothing. Your
thoughts on the first twenty minutes for the Cardinal and White.

Speaker 11 (46:08):
One thing I like is how our depth or our
other players are responding. You know, we've got two really
productive offensive players out of the lineup and you're not
seeing a lot of drop offs. So I like what
I'm seeing and we'll be back.

Speaker 7 (46:21):
This is Wisconsin Badger Women's hockey.

Speaker 5 (46:32):
And welcome back inside Lavon Arena. This is the intermission report,
brought to you by Fields Madison, your premier luxury Auto
Group serving customers since nineteen seventy one. My name's Aiden Michaels.
You're listening to Badger Women's hockey on ten seventy of
the game. The Badger's lead to nothing after the first period.
They have twice as many shots as the Mavericks, fourteen

(46:54):
for them the Mavericks of just seven.

Speaker 6 (46:57):
It's not many shots for the Badgers.

Speaker 5 (46:59):
In the first period considering how many they've had in
previous games this season. It is one of the lows
in the first after one period for the Badgers this season,
but they do have the two goals. It was Cassie
Hall that scored on a tight angle rebound to make
it one nothing and then to make it to nothing
Adela shapovali Bova with another rebound and this one from
Enrai getting an assist on the first line. Badgers lead

(47:22):
to nothing after one and joining us. Now we're on
the air, if if you want to come on right now.
We have Jesse Vedder here with us, who did the
ceremonial puck drop. How's it going. Nice to meet you,
all right, We are on the air right now. We're
here with Jesse Vetterer. Jesse, welcome, back to Madison.

Speaker 6 (47:39):
Can you hear me?

Speaker 8 (47:39):
All right?

Speaker 6 (47:40):
Yes? I can perfect?

Speaker 7 (47:41):
All right?

Speaker 12 (47:41):
You having me?

Speaker 11 (47:42):
Yeah?

Speaker 5 (47:42):
So, first of all, welcome back to Madison. What's it
been like so far to be back here.

Speaker 12 (47:47):
It's fun.

Speaker 13 (47:48):
I live here, I'm from here, so okay, I'm around
the area. But we don't get to the lebon too often.
I got to a six and eight year old, so
they don't really sit and watch too well.

Speaker 12 (48:00):
But it's been a lot of fun. It's great atmosphere.

Speaker 6 (48:02):
Were they able to go down on the bench before
the game when you're doing the puck drop?

Speaker 12 (48:06):
Yeah, they were on the bench. We got down there
a little earlier. My eight year old loved the.

Speaker 13 (48:09):
Zamboni, so he was in heaven. He saw the zamboni
and Bucky, so he's good.

Speaker 12 (48:13):
He's ready to leave. That's all he wanted to see.

Speaker 5 (48:16):
There you go, So you're back on the ice, obviously
not with the skates, but to drop the puck.

Speaker 6 (48:20):
I mean, how special of a moment is that for you?

Speaker 12 (48:23):
It was pretty cool.

Speaker 13 (48:24):
You know, growing up in Wisconsin, always wanted to be
a Badger and come here. So being able to do
that and then come back and even see some of
the fans that came when we were at the Cole
Center a long time ago. It's a fun, fun evening,
a fun afternoon, and it's been a good time.

Speaker 6 (48:41):
Absolutely.

Speaker 5 (48:41):
Now is it strange for you to come back to
Lebonn and see your face on a few of these
photos here obviously championship photo and then your individual photo
down there.

Speaker 13 (48:49):
Yes, it's more fun having kids and coming back and
being like, all right, can you see mommy?

Speaker 12 (48:55):
Where am I? What am I doing?

Speaker 13 (48:57):
But now my eight year old started to call me
Jesse Vetteran, so I'm now McConnell. So it's it's kind
of funny. We get a little kick out of it.

Speaker 6 (49:04):
Are these future Badgers? Maybe? I mean, I know it's early,
but yeah.

Speaker 12 (49:08):
They're They're in hockey.

Speaker 13 (49:09):
My six year old more so, he's in just a
little learn to skate, a little learn to play.

Speaker 12 (49:16):
We'll see what happens.

Speaker 13 (49:17):
But we my husband and I both played hockey, so
if he plays golf for any outdoor sports, we're okay
with that too, because the haggering's cold.

Speaker 6 (49:25):
That makes sense. Do they have a favorite player or
no favorite players?

Speaker 7 (49:29):
All?

Speaker 12 (49:29):
They like to just watch hockey and enjoy it.

Speaker 5 (49:32):
Right now, Absolutely, so obviously being back here, it's a
great moment to have you back at Lebon.

Speaker 6 (49:38):
Are you gonna come to more games in the future
this season or what are we thinking?

Speaker 13 (49:41):
I I, yes, definitely, we We love coming here. It's probably,
you know, out of all the Badger sporting events, it's
one of the ones we love to come to. It's
a awesome venue, not too big, not too small. It's
just perfect for girls hockey and you know, easy to
get some concessions and the boys can run around and
have a good time.

Speaker 6 (49:58):
There you go.

Speaker 5 (49:58):
I want to talk a little bit about the Jesse
Vetter Award. Can you talk a bit about how that
works and sort of how that started.

Speaker 13 (50:06):
I'm not sure what year it was, but they approached
me to use my name, and I was very honored,
and I you know, I grew up playing high school hockey,
youth hockey throughout the state of Wisconsin, so I was
more than willing.

Speaker 7 (50:23):
To do that.

Speaker 13 (50:24):
And then it just goes to the most deserving player,
and I'm just fortunate enough to have my name on it,
and I just hope that that player just enjoyed playing
hockey and enjoyed themselves as much as I did.

Speaker 7 (50:35):
Now.

Speaker 5 (50:35):
I talked to Molly Angstrom in the summer, asked her
about the Angstrom Award. Obviously, she said she doesn't get
a vote on that. Do you get a vote on
who wins the vote?

Speaker 7 (50:43):
I do not get a vote.

Speaker 12 (50:44):
No, I'm with Molly on that one.

Speaker 7 (50:46):
We do not get a vote.

Speaker 12 (50:47):
I feel like we should. Yeah, I agree, I guess
we don't know.

Speaker 6 (50:51):
I guess not. I agree that you should get a vote.

Speaker 7 (50:53):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (50:53):
Now, I always ask our intermission guests for a score
prediction and perhaps who they think is going to score
the next goal.

Speaker 6 (51:00):
You don't have to if you're a.

Speaker 5 (51:01):
Superstitious No, I'm not at all. Okay, perhaps do you
have a score prediction for us? Then after one period?

Speaker 7 (51:05):
Two?

Speaker 12 (51:06):
Nothing?

Speaker 13 (51:07):
Yeah, man, Cato, they're usually pretty scrappy. I know they're coaches.
They've they've worked their teams pretty good. H I'd say
six to oh, and I got Harvey with the next.

Speaker 6 (51:16):
Goal to go with Harvey, I like it now.

Speaker 5 (51:18):
Talking about Ava mcnotton, obviously one of the best goaltenders
I would say in the world. Definitely in the WHA.
I mean, what do you see? Do you see any
similarities from her game to yours?

Speaker 12 (51:29):
I think she's very calm back there. I think that
was the one thing that I played.

Speaker 13 (51:33):
I was just trying to be calm, that presence back
there for your team and how you respond, your team's
going to respond, and she does a good job of that.
She just keeps it calm and relax and just does
her job. And I think that's all you can ask
for for a goalie.

Speaker 6 (51:46):
Absolutely. I agree.

Speaker 5 (51:48):
Well, thank you very much. You heard it here first
Caroline Harvey scoring the next goal. We'll let me down
here for the Badgers, we'll see what happens. We're going
to take a quick break. This was Jesse Vetter, I
made Michael's stay tuned on ten seventy the game.

Speaker 6 (51:58):
We'll be right back, and we welcome you back.

Speaker 5 (52:06):
Inside lebon Arena for intermission. Report presented by Fields Madison,
your premier Lucturiato group, serving customers since nineteen seventy one.

Speaker 6 (52:15):
My name's Aiden Michaels.

Speaker 5 (52:16):
The Badgers lead to nothing against the Minnesota State Mavericks.

Speaker 6 (52:21):
After one. They have fourteen shots on goal to the Mavericks. Seven.

Speaker 5 (52:24):
Badgers, of course have those two goals. If you're just
joining us, it's a quick recap of who scored. Cassie
Hall getting the first goal for the Badgers off a rebound,
took a tight angle one time or slap shot from
about the right circle and somehow confused Hayley Hanson, the
goaltender for the Mavericks, to get on the board and
to score for Wisconsin getting another goal. Cassie Hall has
been red hotch He leads the Badgers in goals. On

(52:46):
that second line with Gorbutenko and Scannal, they have just
been incredible. The second goal came from Medela Chapo vali
Vova with another rebound. It was Claire Enright getting the
puck to the net this time. So both of the
Badgers' goals have come from rebounds. And I'll tell you
has put in quite the shift after playing on the
first line in the first period. It's her first game
in the season playing on the first line there with

(53:07):
Adela and Lacey Eden. She's normally on the third or
fourth line, but Enwright has done the job. We haven't
seen much of the fourth line at all. Mikayla' Zilish
Belaveser and Charlotte Peakinhagen Pekanhaggin's got some third line minutes
in this first period, Zillish not much, and Vassur we've
yet to see her too much in the first period. Obviously,
I mentioned in the pregame that it's only her seventh

(53:27):
career game. The junior often doesn't dress for the Badgers,
only played six games before this, and they were all
last season. Did not play in our first two seasons
for Wisconsin, but slots in the lineup for today's games,
so hopefully we'll see her a bit more. Grace Bickett
got some time as well. She's the extra skater for
Wisconsin in today's game. She was able to get a

(53:47):
few minutes on the blue line. Looking ahead to schedules though,
because it's quite interesting, the Mavericks and the Badgers both
have pretty difficult schedules coming up. Firstly, looking at Minnesota State,
they already had the play against Minnesotaduluth last week, and
this is their third straight ranked series. They started off
against Saint Thomas, they lost in overtime and then won

(54:08):
the next day three nothing. That's against the ranked Saint
Thomas Tommy's and it's the first time they've been ranked
in the Division One ERA since they became a Division
one team a few years ago. Then they had to
go at Minnesota Duluth against the number four team in
the country. They lost five to nothing in the first
game and then three to one in the second game.
And now they got to play at Wisconsin here at Lebon,

(54:30):
one of the hardest places to play in the nation.
Of course, they're losing too nothing right now after one period.
Then they've got a I don't want to say an
easier series coming up, but one of the worst teams
in the WCHA, Bamigie State. They got to play them
at home, but then they got to go on the
road and play Ohio State, the number two team in
the nation, and the weekend after that they've got to

(54:52):
play number three Minnesota. So with Bimidgi State in between,
they've got to play number one Wisconsin, number two Ohio State,
and number three Minnesota. That is not gonna be a
fun few weeks coming up from Minnesota State. But perhaps
we could see an upset. We already saw Saint Thomas
with an upset. We'll see if Minnesota State can get
an upset as well. Going on the other side of things,
the home team, our Wisconsin Badgers. Obviously, they've got this

(55:14):
series today and then tomorrow against Minnesota State. But they've
got the big one coming up next weekend, Hollow Weekend.
The first game on Halloween Night, six pm here at
Lebon against number three Minnesota, a rivalry game.

Speaker 6 (55:28):
We saw what happened last.

Speaker 5 (55:29):
Year in the Frozen Four and also in the WCCHA Championship,
the Badgers of course winning both of those games, but
it was quite physical. Taking me back to Abby Murphy
hitting Caroline Harvey up high, well away from the pug,
getting the five minute major game misconduct, and then Harvey
going back and getting a check up rown against Minnesota
getting a five minute penalty.

Speaker 6 (55:49):
This was all in the Frozen Four.

Speaker 5 (55:51):
Badgers, of course came way with the win and then
had the win in the National Championship game.

Speaker 6 (55:54):
So that is gonna be an interesting game.

Speaker 5 (55:56):
It's gonna be the first time these two teams match
up since that and since that game in the semifinal,
and then after that they go away to Saint Cloud State.
That's number eleven Saint Cloud State, so another ranked matchup
for the Badgers. Those games will be six pm two
pm on the fourteenth and fifteenth of November, and then
they've got to play another ranked team and again. We've
talked about these Tommies a few times in the pregame

(56:18):
and in the intermission, but they're sitting at number thirteen
right now. The Badgers have handled them pretty easily in
the past few years, but this will be the best
Tommy team that they've had to play, So we'll see
lots of fun hockey coming up. But before that, we've
got two more periods of play today and then three
periods of course tomorrow Minnesota State versus Wisconsin.

Speaker 6 (56:39):
The Badgers lead to nothing after one.

Speaker 5 (56:41):
We'll be right back and when we come back back
on the call, Paul Brown and Mark Greenhall, thanks for
tuning into the intermission report brought to you by Fields Madison,
we'll be right back on ten to seventy.

Speaker 10 (56:50):
The game.

Speaker 7 (56:56):
Nineteen forty three remaining in the second period underway. The
Badgers are leading in the game by a score of
two to nothing. Year both teams at full strength. Eden
comes in over the line with it for the Badgers,
out with shappy Valovova and clear in right. There's a
dry by Vivian Jungles, steered away by Hanson, their goaltender

(57:18):
inside the blowline. KK Harvey tried to pass it off
on the far wing over to En right end, right
down in the corner, back over to Eden Eden angle
shot drive went behind the nat of was the Badgers
trying to hold it in the Maverick zone. They control it,
they center it out in front En right shot covered
up two to nothing. The shots on goal are sixteen

(57:41):
to seven in the game. On the power play, Badgers
won for one er for one for the Mavericks face
offs twenty to six. The edge to the Badgers block shots.
The edge to Minnesota State at eight six. Some of
the individual stats on the board up two goals that

(58:02):
was scored by Cassie Hall or ninth and Shappo Valley
Boba getting her fourth goal of the gear. So that's
where we stand here and underway in the second period
with eighteen forty seven or amnting, both teams at full strength,
and we'll have a nicing call. What was the word
downstairs there, mister Greenhawk.

Speaker 11 (58:22):
Well, basically, let's make our breakout a little quicker, you know,
a quicker transition up and out of the zone and
make sure we have our third forward high enough that
we can get back if they do have a rush
coming from the other end.

Speaker 7 (58:37):
Base off coming up back in the zone of Wisconsin.
They're skating from our left to our right here in
the second period, and the Badger's move it up ice.
It's haul along with Gorbatanco and Gorbatankle with it turned
tried to center. It comes around the boards on the
right side, back down on the corner. Garbatanko went down

(58:58):
whistle and play is going to be stopped. We've got
a tripping call coming up.

Speaker 11 (59:04):
Tell you, I thought maybe she just bottomed out, but
I guess she was tripped and we'll have a power
play as a result. I like that.

Speaker 7 (59:13):
Badgers have already scored on a power play goal one
thirty four at the time of the penalty on the
tripping call. Minnesota State's second penalty of the game and
going into the penalty box for the Mavericks is zowoiski
Badgers with the power play, they'll move it around, trying

(59:34):
to eating with it in front. Shappy battle Boba right
out in front of the crease area that bought the
Mavericks turning out. They come in the neutral zone. Badgers
give it back up to Harvey on the break coming
in over the line. Here's eden shot deflected away like
a save. Eaton had a good opportunity there got away
a pretty good drive, but it was kicked out by Hanson.

(59:58):
Going back in behind Wisconsin turns and up. They come
in a hurry on the lead pass. Eden tried to
skate it down on the corner of the right side.
Eden trying to work it loose, comes over to Cassie
Hall out on the power play along with Shappo Valley
Bova along with KK Harvey and coming in over the
line with it is Potter that pass picked up by

(01:00:19):
Hall Hall Toad Drag tried to get off the drive,
couldn't take the shot behind the net to Eden Aiden
controlling the fuck back out on top over the Hall
around over the KK Harvey. Badgers set it up and
they try to tip it. It went up against the
back of the netting. They let him play Potter with
it a back over to Eden. Little gibbn go on

(01:00:39):
the far side Wisconsin controlling it. They try to go
to Eden along the back wall. Centered it out in
front nobody home, but the Mavericks will dump it down
on the zone thirty five seconds for minting on the advantage.
Coming up Ice in the neutral zone, Badgers will turn
coming in over the line. Here's Gorbatan coming off the wing.

(01:01:01):
They got Scandal in front. Scandal goes down and covering
up his Hanson who made the player.

Speaker 11 (01:01:08):
Yeah, hoping we convert on this. We got twenty two
seconds left on the power play, so we'll see what
we can do with that. Bourbatanko really storm the zone
hard there, but no dividends.

Speaker 7 (01:01:22):
Sixteen forty seven are remitting in the second period, Scandal
out for the Badgers. Maggie Scannal on the right wing
with that line of Garbatanko in the hall, but right
now jungles around on the far side over the KK
Harvey little Gibb and go and they give it back
in behind Pekin Hoggin behind the net looking for help,

(01:01:43):
and the Badgers control it. They're down to five seconds
remitting in the power play. Back of da Vivian jungles.
We'll get in Scandal with a drive and Minnesota State's
back at full strength. Badgers control the puck down on
the corner. They come back out on top. They work
the wing over the scannel. She works herself loose, tried
to kick it in the corner and did to peekin

(01:02:04):
Hoggin Gorbatanko over to try and pick that up. Some
pretty good size down there in the corner from Badgers.
No kid working hard coming back in over the line,
controlling it and there's a drive and the save is
made by Ava McNaughton on a nice drive by Zowaski,
and it's going to be set up Wisconsin jungles. We'll

(01:02:25):
flip it in the corner on the far side, going
back as Strummy strumming back on the near side. It
comes around over the goals worthy Badgers try to hold
it in with Percard down in the corner along with Halverson.
Badgers will have to skate back in their own zone.
Venusio striding back and Venusio getting there, played it around

(01:02:46):
the board's turning trying to come out of the zone.
Back in behind Venusio behind the head of Wisconsin, off
the back wall around over the Mackenzie Jones out of
the breakers at two one one Percard move it in
with McCarthy moving it in shot save a bound put
in the crease. Nobody home, Wow, and back come the
Mavericks to the blueline of Wisconsin and Ava mcnuttin will

(01:03:11):
cover up and stop the action here with fifteen oh
four remaining in the second period.

Speaker 11 (01:03:17):
Boy, that was a good play there by u Picard
and McCarthy.

Speaker 7 (01:03:21):
Yeah, it really was nice.

Speaker 13 (01:03:22):
Boy.

Speaker 11 (01:03:23):
I thought we'd end up with a goal there, but
no such luck.

Speaker 7 (01:03:27):
Good scoring opportunity shots are twenty one to nine. Badgers
with the lead, Wisconsin one for two on their power
play and back in behind Wisconsin around of the fireboards
over to KK. Harvey tried to lead it out on
the break the center ice coming back as Vivian jungles

(01:03:48):
and Harvey off on the lead. Wisconsin zenright carries it
in over the line enright, pulling it up and driving
it on the wing, but Minnesota State left wing boards
control it. Badgers take it away, trying to change it
down is eating eating in the corner. Try to move
it in front of the nap play around on the
near side coming up. There's a penalty called and that

(01:04:12):
may come up against the Badgers. It does. They tripped
up somebody back in the zone and Minnesota State's gonna
go on the power play. Here five thirty six the
time of the penalty.

Speaker 11 (01:04:25):
It looks like they're gonna sit. Uh that Chapo go
into the box. Shappie yep, I think so, cooking.

Speaker 7 (01:04:45):
The call on the penalty. So now Minnesota State goes
on the power play. They're trailing two to nothing in
the game, and the play comes to the boards on
the near side over to try and pick it up
and control, and they'll move it around on the far
boards over the control that coming over to pick it up.
It's going to be played back down in the corner,

(01:05:07):
back in behind the net, around on the far side,
going over to try and set it up back down
in the corner, controlling it at the Mavericks moving right
out in front. The Badgers will clear it from in
front of their own net. Thirteen fifty seven are mening
in the period and Minnesota State coming up ice, controlling it,

(01:05:28):
working it through the neutral zone. Rink onie on the
play down in the corner, Mackenzie Jones with it. We'll
turn and they'll dump it back the length of the ice,
and the Mavericks go back in behind their own goal.
Rosky with it. Rosky around on the far side of
the break, coming up through neutral back in over the line.
They tried a little given goal, that play didn't work

(01:05:51):
around over the bowling and Minnesota State still with the
power play, Badgers try to chip it out, but it's
held in nicely there my Goalsworthy off in the wing.
They come back out on top over the Goalsworthy around
on the near side. Shot kicked out by Ava McNaught
and nice kick save there.

Speaker 11 (01:06:09):
Off the path, nice left pad save.

Speaker 7 (01:06:12):
And we're down to thirteen oh three remitting and thirty
eight seconds remitting. In the power play, Wisconsin at center
ice trying to control the puck, skating back over to
control it is Bishop. They play it up the boards
on the near side. The Mavericks come in over the line.
Goalsworthy lost control of the puck. Back comes leading Scanneal

(01:06:33):
Scannel in the corner on the near side, holds the
zone doing a four check behind the net. But the
Mavericks will turn and they'll hustle out skating up ice.
A little bit of a florry there moving it into
Oh the pass behind tunnel. Who had a break on
the backside wing there.

Speaker 11 (01:06:51):
Boy, that was some fast skating thereby there sure was
by I love Poope, I think from the man Cato.

Speaker 7 (01:06:59):
Twelve minute it's and thirty seven seconds remitting. Score remains
two to uping. The goals were scored in the first period,
scored by Cassie Hall for her ninth goal of the
year in Shapeo Valley Boba with her fourth goal of
the year.

Speaker 11 (01:07:17):
Nice to see us kill that Pedaly off ball.

Speaker 7 (01:07:19):
Twelve twenty three remor remaining in the second period. Nice
crowd on hand. Another sell out here at Labond Arena.

Speaker 11 (01:07:30):
Yeah nice see those seats full.

Speaker 7 (01:07:32):
Same two teams will play tomorrow two o'clock faceoff time
in Game two. Badgers with an eight to no record
on the year, undefeated in the league at four in
all play in the neutral zone back of it has
set it up, Wisconsin trying to control it. They'll play
it back down in behind, around on the far boards,

(01:07:52):
over the Gorbatagles out with Cassie Hall and Wisconsin coming
out of their own zone. They try to play ahead,
coming up ice with it back in over the line,
haul with it. Tried to pass it to Harvey, she
was between the dots, but couldn't pick it up back
the Mavericks come into the Wisconsin line. They tried to
lead it through, but that went into the glove of

(01:08:14):
Ava McNaughton, who stopped the player.

Speaker 11 (01:08:17):
Yeah, Eva wisely covered it up there as we had
two uh Mankato players going to the net.

Speaker 7 (01:08:27):
Base off coming up to the right side of Ava McNaughton.
In this two to nothing game, Badgers have put up
almost four hundred shots already on the year, averaging almost
fifty shots a game. Coming up, Ice, controlling it, moving
it through neutral, comes in over the line. Here's Enright
coming in off the wing, goes to the back end.

(01:08:49):
Gon Right, cut it through the pads. Let's get your
second of the year and trading.

Speaker 11 (01:08:59):
Not beautiful effort by Claire Right coming down the right
wing and just just pass that defenseman barelya curls in
toward the net, pops it in there five hole, kind
of basically slid it through there. I thought the goal
he was going to make the same was a great
goal by Claire en Right. Nice job by her.

Speaker 7 (01:09:21):
Getting the opportunity to play with a couple of outstanding
players in Chapel Valley, Boba and Eden. Yeah, obviously Sims
would normally be on that line. She is injured. Leila
Edwards is out of the lineup. You got the preseason
player of the Year proposed and Sims and Leila Edwards,

(01:09:42):
who led the nation in goals last year with thirty
five Nita. One of them are in the lineup. We'reund
on the far side, back in behind the net, and
the amount of time that they're going to be out
nobody knows. Yeah, they if they know, they're not talking right.

Speaker 11 (01:10:00):
I'm not just keeping under my stets and I don't know.

Speaker 7 (01:10:04):
Lower body injury on Sims and Nie on Edwards.

Speaker 8 (01:10:14):
Yeah.

Speaker 7 (01:10:18):
Mma Venusio got the assist on the goal.

Speaker 11 (01:10:21):
Yeah, moved to fuck up out of our own originally
there to get in right the opportunity.

Speaker 7 (01:10:27):
Third assist of the year for Mma Venusio in a
three nothing game. The Badger's out in front were nearing
the halfway mark of the game. Both teams are back
at full strength here. We've had a total of four
penalties called in the game to a side.

Speaker 9 (01:10:47):
Yeah.

Speaker 7 (01:10:49):
Mackenzie Jones getting an opportunity to play regular now she's
out of andover Minnesota.

Speaker 11 (01:10:55):
He's responding well to Paul.

Speaker 7 (01:10:58):
She's played on a championship team and I believe it
was an undefeated championship team in Minnesota. Yeah. Her play
comes through center ice, back of it to try and
set it up. It goes in on Ava McNaughton. She
covered it up and she made the say.

Speaker 11 (01:11:14):
Yeah, covered by Ava. There were the two man Cato
players going to the net.

Speaker 7 (01:11:26):
Based off to the right side of Ava McNaughton, who
is twenty Jappie I think, yeah in the career. Seventy
two games played for Ava McNaughton in her career and
she's won seventy or sixty four of the seventy two game.

Speaker 11 (01:11:46):
Not a bad percentage, Paul, Wow, she's eight and er
this year.

Speaker 13 (01:11:50):
Yeah.

Speaker 11 (01:11:52):
Yeah, and she's working really hard.

Speaker 13 (01:11:54):
You know.

Speaker 11 (01:11:54):
She identifies little areas that she can improve and works
on those and I think we're seeing the results of that.

Speaker 7 (01:12:03):
And down in the corner on the far side, over
to try and control it, angled around the boards on
the near wing, back handed out towards center ice. Minnesota
State comes in over the line. Looked like they were
offside and the play behind the net coming out on
the break they hold it in. There's a drive, oh,
trying to tip it back door there down as mcnonn
the punt swept away from in front of the goal.

(01:12:25):
O Timba was there and Wisconsin coming back on the play.
Here's a Chapel Valley Boba down to the corner with
the Puck carried it then dumped it around over to
KK Harvey. KK shuffled it back to the point and
there's a drive and down. Eden is out along with

(01:12:46):
McCarthy for the Badgers, they worked the back wall in
the Maverick zone behind the nap and controlling it Wisconsin
on the right side. They play it to the point
and it comes back on over to center ice, regrouping
as Usio on the wing in the league trying to
play it to per Card, angled backhanded around off by

(01:13:07):
Tenenbaumb trying to break it out of the zone. Tennon
bomb works the wing. Badgers hold it in on the
far side in the slot. They try to tip it
back door, but it's cleared away. Nine oh four remaining here.
Play is back in the Mavericks zone. Wisconsin with one
goal in this period. Eight fifty five remaining here. Slid

(01:13:32):
out on the break the Mavericks at the blue line.
They turn and backhanded in front of their own bench
in the neutral zone, picked up by Percal and moving
it in. Per Card with a drive and that was
cleared off of the stick of per Card back in
behind the net and the Mavericks will turn and out
they come and they'll play it back down on the
Wisconsin zone and we're gonna have an icing call and

(01:13:55):
we're going to take a break. This is Wisconsin Badgers
women's hockey. It's three to nothing Wisconsin out in front.
We're in the second period. Play continuing down in the corner.
Potter goes back over to pick it up for the
Badger shuffle it around on the far side, back over

(01:14:18):
to Mackenzie Jones. Mavericks with a fore check on and
Tuttle tried to hold his zwe add neutral ice. The
puck comes loose and the Mavericks will carry it back
in over the line. Goldsworthy with the drive right on
and the save is made. Now they're going to take
their official time out. We'll be back. This is Badger

(01:14:38):
women's hockey. On ten seventy of the game, seven minutes
and thirty seven seconds remaining in the second period. Mark
green Hall and Paul Brown here at Lebon Arena in Madison,
where the Badgers in the last nine years of one

(01:14:59):
one hundred and four forty four games, lost twelve and
tied eight. That's a pretty good winning percentage at home.

Speaker 11 (01:15:05):
Huh yeah, I'll take that.

Speaker 7 (01:15:09):
Not bad here at lebon Is. Just in this recent
stretch one hundred and thirty nine, eleven and seven in
Lebron Arena. Overall the last nine years, one hundred and
forty four wins. Nice home rink, boy back in behind,
coming around over to try and pick it up. Now

(01:15:32):
Wisconsin in the neutral zone, trying to control it. I
don't know if there's a better environment in women's hockey
than right here.

Speaker 11 (01:15:39):
No, this is pretty much.

Speaker 7 (01:15:42):
Uh, this is the Cadillac, yeah, or the Rolls Royce,
the gold standard. And there's a drive and a cover
up in the save is made.

Speaker 11 (01:15:52):
Good to see hell be putting a shot on net
there from the right top of the right circle.

Speaker 7 (01:15:56):
The second period is brought to you by Fields of
Madison Luxury Auto Group. They've been serving customers all the
way back to nineteen since seventy one s we thanked
them for their sponsorship Fields of Madison for Badger Women's
Hockey Bobsite Wisconsin based off. Coming up to the left side,

(01:16:21):
Haley Hanson in goal. She's out of Blaine, Minnesota, YEP.
Her career record is eighteen twenty six and one. Mavericks
around the boards on the far side, tried to backhand
it out of the zone and Wisconsin's Venusio back over
to pick it up. Badgers have won the last twenty

(01:16:42):
games in a row against Minnesota State. Here's Shafield Valley
Vova who lost control of the puck. Overall in the series,
the Badgers have one hundred and eleven wins, three losses
in three times.

Speaker 11 (01:16:58):
Unreal.

Speaker 7 (01:17:00):
Wonder what that's like when you're an opposing team. I
mean you try not to think about it, right, You
just take them one time, yep, one game at a time,
so to speak.

Speaker 11 (01:17:08):
Yeah, trying to eliminate history there and take each contest
on and so on.

Speaker 7 (01:17:14):
Back down the six' eighteen remaining in the period, Wisconsin
with three up on the board and it's banged into
the bench. Lopez fired it into her bench area.

Speaker 11 (01:17:27):
Yeah, I think Murphy got a stick on that to
deflect it out.

Speaker 7 (01:17:38):
Face off coming up at center ice.

Speaker 11 (01:17:43):
Yeah, Cassie Hall in there, wins the draw.

Speaker 7 (01:17:47):
And play continues back over to try and control it.
Wisconsin around on the far side in the neutral zone.
They'll pick it up. Here's Hall comes in over the
line with Gorbatanko. Hall pulls up fires it back over
to scandal scandal with a drive goes in behind in
the wrap around. Whoa yeah, Hailey's didn't know for sure

(01:18:09):
where it was.

Speaker 11 (01:18:10):
Haley Hanson, her goaltender, was looking every which way. I
always checked the nut first, Paul, when I was playing goal.

Speaker 7 (01:18:15):
You never you never look back. Yeah, right, If you
look back, you're in trouble.

Speaker 6 (01:18:21):
Yep.

Speaker 11 (01:18:22):
Yeah, you're letting it in. Then you're giving them the
roadway to it.

Speaker 7 (01:18:25):
Base off coming up to the right side, back in
the zone of Minnesota State, and the Mavericks will set
it up and they'll dump it to the Badger line
where Wisconsin turns and tries to pick it up there
whistle place stopped at the blueline of the Badger. Both

(01:18:46):
teams are going to change up signs here. Minnesota State
five and three overall in the year, but they're one
and three in the w c H A base off
just outside the line of the Badgers. Next weekend, Minnesota
will be here. That will be a great series, and

(01:19:06):
the Gophers are a very talented team, without a doubt
coming up ice, controlling it coming back in over the line,
played back down in the corner, trying to control it
back in behind that and banging it off the boards
on the wall on the near side. Here's Harvey faking
the drive. Ben pulled the trigger, split it. Boy, she

(01:19:31):
can do a lot of things.

Speaker 11 (01:19:32):
Yeah, she makes it look so easy.

Speaker 7 (01:19:34):
Yeah, she does it just almost flawless.

Speaker 11 (01:19:36):
Everything's at high speed, but that looks so fluid.

Speaker 13 (01:19:39):
You know.

Speaker 7 (01:19:39):
Yep, coming back over to try and control it and
circling with it as per card around over to Vivian Jungles.
Vivian played with KK for a lot of last year
that pairing defensively and Vivian centered that one. But nobody
home except the Mavericks on the break van but Tava

(01:20:00):
looking to bring it out of the zone. There was
a check, a pretty good one around on the far side,
coming over to pick it up. Garbatanco and it's going
to be turned away. Four to twenty seven Ormening in
the second period, play in the neutral zone, set up

(01:20:21):
man controlled and tip back in over the blue line,
going back of it to set it up around the
boards on the far side, trying to control it, and
the play is going to be moved up. Ice with
it in the neutral zone and trying to chase it
down control to get back down deep in the zone

(01:20:42):
in the corner around the boards. We have three point
fifty seven remening in the period, just inside the line,
and a shot tipped off the stick of a Nussio
Garbatanco was there.

Speaker 11 (01:20:53):
Yeah, nice redirect by Scandal.

Speaker 7 (01:20:55):
I'll tell you Gorbatanco was really strong in her skates.
See you have to take the puck, yeah, yep, and
there's a collision. Scandal goes down in the corner along
with Stramo and to the blue line of the Badgers,
played on the wing, coming back over to pick it up.
Mackenzie Jones around on the play over to Abra Murphy.

(01:21:18):
Aba tried to work away and got the puck out
of his own. Gorbatankle with it kind of one arming
it down on the corner of the right side. Down
to three fourteen remitting in the period. Badgers with a
goal in this period, scored by Enright. Also scoring on
the season or on the goal was Adela's Chapel Vallee

(01:21:40):
Boba and Cassie Hall in front. There's a backhander right
there by Chapel valle Boba like they blocked it right
in front. Boy, she had it r on her stick
right out in front of the net.

Speaker 11 (01:21:52):
Nice play. With good defense by the Mavericks. Sure, yeah,
I thought she was gonna tip one in there right
on the door stuff.

Speaker 7 (01:22:02):
Twenty seven to fifteen and shots here in the game,
Shapo Valley Boda in the face off circle to the
right side of Haley Hanson. N Right is out along
with Eden, and it's the Badger's trying to hold it

(01:22:22):
in with n Right and Wisconsin backing it out. It's
center eyes pulling up. Eden fired it in behind the net,
Hanson let it go. Badger's pinching in the zone, trying
to hold on the attack here and it comes out
to neutral ice and dumped by the Mavericks in on
Aba McNaughton, who flipped it out and it came right

(01:22:44):
back in on her hit the skate of one of
the Badgers skating buying it. Karen right back at her.

Speaker 11 (01:22:50):
Yeah, I think it was off of Jeez. Who the
heck was that off of Bickt. Yeah, went offer right
back at her. I'm glad she was looking.

Speaker 7 (01:22:59):
Do you ever score a goal?

Speaker 11 (01:23:01):
No, goalie, Nope, I never did.

Speaker 7 (01:23:03):
No, I didn't get one.

Speaker 11 (01:23:05):
Huh No, I think I might have had. Bill Howard
claims he got one one time. Yeah, Okay, I don't
know how he got it. No, I wonder if he
was playing for Colorado College at the time. That's where
he played college.

Speaker 7 (01:23:17):
Yeah, well he started at North Dakota I think, yeah,
one year there. Yeah, and along the boards on the
near side over the try and control it down and
that's McCarthy with it, pulling it up, moving it in.
There's a shot ooh, missing the corner of the net
there shot and Wisconsin around on the nearer side trying

(01:23:38):
to control it in front, and it's going to be
cleared away and centered and play out in front. Right
there was per Card on a beautiful pass.

Speaker 11 (01:23:48):
I'm harvey. I'm surprised Hansen was able to get to
that and make the save.

Speaker 7 (01:23:51):
And there's a drive and Peking Hoggin fired it right on.

Speaker 11 (01:23:56):
Yeah. Was that McCarthy right on the doorstep or who
popped out one toward the netwa there? Maybe Pequin hog it.
I don't know, but wow, I thought that was going
to go in and Hansen was slid right over and
made the play back of a save.

Speaker 7 (01:24:16):
Yeah.

Speaker 11 (01:24:16):
Bill Howard was from North Dakota originally, I believe.

Speaker 7 (01:24:19):
Yeah, back over to set it up. There's a drive
many many years the goalie coach for the men's program
the University of Wisconsin. Now, we got a couple of
sticks up high, and I think after what's happened the
last couple of weeks in the more physical part of
the game, they called penalties right there. Yeah, yeah, they

(01:24:41):
probably have been told. Scandal goes in the box for
the Badgers. Probably gonna watch it for a while and
call a few more penalties.

Speaker 11 (01:24:51):
Yeah, yeah, you don't want the game to get out
of control. They're matched them up here. We're gonna go
f on four for a little bit.

Speaker 7 (01:25:06):
Psychost is in the penalty box for mines out Minnesota
State and Scandal for the Badgers around on the near side,
down on the corner. Aba Murphy with it, goes in
behind out in front, try to give it to Gorba
Tanco and she couldn't connect and they have to go
all the way back to center ice to regroup in
their own zone. On a fore check there was Tuttle, Tuddle,

(01:25:29):
took it away, you're looking for help. Nice play there,
Stremble and they tried to fire it back over the
tunnel behind the net comes around on the wing on
the play, Goldsworthy over to try and pick it up.
There's a check by Abra Murphy in front behind the
death and comeing up ice the Bago comes. Here comes

(01:25:49):
Cassie Hall around over the Venusio with the drive. She
tried to go upstairs with it, but I went into
the glove of Haley Hansen to make the say nice play.

Speaker 11 (01:26:00):
We entered the zone. There kind of a three on two.
Wuzio gets the shot.

Speaker 7 (01:26:04):
Off, face off, coming up to the right side of
Haley Hansen, right handed goaltender played back on the far side.
Badgers now with forty seconds remitting in the period, maybe
get one more opportunity here around the controlling it on
the wing. They're playing one person short because of the

(01:26:29):
matching power plays or the matching miners part me yep
and coming back. The Badgers set it up and here's
Eden with it. Eden looking for the outlet, moves it
and a weak shot went through traffic. Still in the
zone with seventeen seconds remitting, but they'll finally dump it
out and Mackenzie Jones will go back over to pick

(01:26:50):
it up. She's chased by O Temba and along the
port's near side, and we're going to come to the
end of the period where the Badgers pick up one
goal in the second period. Greeny and your thoughts on the.

Speaker 11 (01:27:05):
Middle period, Well, I tell you we can't quite you know,
make the separation here. Yeah, you know, pretty tight game
yet as far as three to nothing, we've outshot him.
But gotta put her in a nut.

Speaker 7 (01:27:18):
We'll be back. This is Wisconsin Badger Women's hockey. Man.

Speaker 5 (01:27:31):
We welcome you inside Lebon Arena for the intermission report
here on ten seventy of the game. This is brought
to you by Fields Madison, your premier Luxurianto group, serving
customers since nineteen seventy one. My name's Aiden Michaels. The
Badger's lead after two periods by a score of three nothing.

Speaker 6 (01:27:47):
They have thirty two shots on goal to the.

Speaker 5 (01:27:49):
Mavericks seventeen, and when we come back into the third period,
there will be thirty seconds of four on four hockey.
Maggie Scannal and Mikas Skaios got called for a rough
on each each other late in the second period, and
it's surprising. I didn't think Scanneal and this isn't me
being biased at all, I promised, but I didn't think
Scannell deserved to go off for that one. Usually when

(01:28:09):
we see a rough after the whistle, we're going to
see two players go off. Scannel did get away with
a few penalties that weren't called in the second period,
so perhaps that was just a makeup call. But Mikas Skiles,
from what I saw, cross checked Scannal on the face,
and luckily they've got the masks on, and it's not
like the NHL, for example, where they just have the visors,
because that would have caused certainly a bloody mess for

(01:28:31):
Maggie Scanneal. But of course a cross check is a
cross check, so they called them both for that rough
and there were some foreign for hockey, which normally benefits
Wisconsin as they've played pretty well in these open spaces.
When there's one less skater on the ice for both teams,
they can accelerate and gain a couple of scoring chances,
which they did only a couple of chances there for

(01:28:52):
Minnesota State. Both teams, besides, of course this four on
four each had a power play in the second period.
PI also had a power play in the first period.
Both teams two for two on the penalty kill, and
of course, goal scoring just one goal in this second
period for the Badgers. It was Claire Enright with a
beautiful solo goal. Took it essentially coast to coast from

(01:29:14):
the opposite blue line all the way to the net
by herself and scores her first goal of the season.
She now has two points today, a goal and an
assist before this game, just had one assist in the
entire season, of course, making her presence known here on
the first line in the absence of Kirsten sim Kirsten Simms,
we have no timetable as to win. She will return,

(01:29:36):
but no problem so far for the Badgers. This is
the first game they've had to play without Kirsten Simms,
and Claire Enwright is just doing fine there on that
first line. I had a chance to talk to Claire
ahead of this weekend series on Tuesday after practice, so
we're going to take a listen to that. It's Claire
en Right here with the player profile brought Ton Goodman's Jewelers.

Speaker 6 (01:29:56):
We're here on ten seventy the game Aiden Michael's joined
by Claire Enwright. Claire has a go good. How are
you fantastic?

Speaker 5 (01:30:01):
Thanks for joining me, big trip to Schenectady last weekend
and getting a trophy.

Speaker 6 (01:30:05):
How was that?

Speaker 14 (01:30:06):
Yeah, it was pretty amazing, just kind of getting a
tournament under our belts this early in the season. I
feel like not a lot of people have that, so
it was great to get some competition and get to
have motivation to win a trophy at the start of
the season.

Speaker 6 (01:30:20):
And what do these trips do for team chemistry?

Speaker 5 (01:30:23):
Going to a trip staying at the hotel for the week,
and obviously you do that when you go on the
road in Minnesota, but for a plane trip like Schenectady,
what is that like?

Speaker 14 (01:30:30):
It really bonds us together. I feel like not a
lot of people have families out there. Most of us
are from like kind of the Midwest around here, so
it really bonds us and makes us closer. It wasn't
a place with a lot of stuff around to do,
so we kind of had a lot of time to
hang out until the team chemistry definitely builds and to
have the games like those again to win a trophy,

(01:30:52):
it kind of just builds our team chemistry and makes
us very motivated.

Speaker 5 (01:30:56):
And even though most people expected you guys to win
that tournament, what kind of statement do you think that
makes to the rest of the WCCHA teams.

Speaker 14 (01:31:05):
I think it kind of makes a statement that we
are here to win and no matter what, we will
put our best foot forward, even if it's against Vermont,
or if against Union, or if it's against Ohio State,
no matter who it is, we're going to put our
best foot forward and we are going.

Speaker 5 (01:31:19):
To get that trophy and then back in a WCCHA
action this weekend against Minnesota State. Coming back from Schenectady,
sort of resetting yourself, getting back into the swing of things,
and then heading back home.

Speaker 6 (01:31:30):
What's that process.

Speaker 14 (01:31:32):
It's nice to get back home and get back into
WHA play. Obviously it's a very different type of play
out East, so it's very nice to come back home
and to get back into our team, skating on our
home ice, not having to travel this weekend and just
kind of rest, recover and get back to our WHA play.

Speaker 3 (01:31:49):
All right, good luck, thank you?

Speaker 6 (01:31:50):
All right?

Speaker 5 (01:31:53):
And that was Claire and right after practice on Tuesday.
An incredible game so far here on the first line,
as I said, a goal and assist and that was
one of the prettiest goals I've seen this season for
many Badger player.

Speaker 6 (01:32:05):
Her night is absolutely not done.

Speaker 5 (01:32:07):
Of course, Claire Enwright suffered that season ending injury a
couple of years ago, scored her first goal in over
six hundred days here at Lebonn. Then getting back on
the score sheet today on the first line. Taking a
look at some of the scores around the WCHA, some
surprising ones.

Speaker 6 (01:32:22):
Perhaps. We talked about Saint Thomas.

Speaker 5 (01:32:23):
I know I'm mentioning them a lot, but of course
them being thirteenth in the nation is quite an accomplishment
for them. However, they lost yesterday at a Providence College
and a barn Burner. They lost seven to six, and
then they lost five to one today against Providence, so
they got swept by the Friars. The question is if
are they going to stay ranked. I would imagine they would,

(01:32:44):
but they're certainly going to fall lower than thirteenth and
then no surprise in the other Friday games. Ohio State
with a five to one victory over number eleven Saint
Cloud State yesterday, but right now it's a bit of
a closer one. Heading into the third period it is
one nothing Saint Cloud State.

Speaker 6 (01:33:00):
So we are officially on upset watch.

Speaker 5 (01:33:02):
That game is on Big ten Plus and it's in Columbus.
We talked about how hard it is to play in
an arena like lebon Over in Columbus. It's not too different,
a very tough crowd to play against. And of course
Ohio State six and one on the season, four and
one in WHA. They're looking to stay alive and stay
at the number two spot, but they certainly could move

(01:33:23):
down if Minnesota can get to sweep. They had a
four to nothing commanding win over Minnesota dulof who are
number four ranked the nation. This was yesterday and then
today another close one nothing nothing in the first period.

Speaker 6 (01:33:37):
We'll keep you updated on that perhaps post game, but
just something to look out for.

Speaker 5 (01:33:41):
Of course, Ohio State and Minnesota the future opponents for
the Badgers in the next few weeks, and of course
number two and number three in the rankings. The Badgers
looking to maintain their number one ranking in the nation.
A quick recap if you're just joining us. The first
goal of the game came off a rebound from Cassie
Hall getting another goal, leading the team and goals this season.

(01:34:01):
Cassie Hall and then at de la Chappeo Valevova getting
a second goal for the Badgers off another rebound. That
was Enright's first point of the day, and then in
the second period, as we mentioned, en Right with her
beautiful goal making it three and nothing. There's a lot
of physicality in this in this game so far, and
we've seen it in this season and listening back to

(01:34:22):
Paul Brown's interview with Mark Johnson ahead of today's game,
the physicality has certainly picked up in the last couple
of seasons. I mean I've been covering this team for
about four seasons now and it certainly has picked up tremendously.
Now you have to be careful because, of course, body
checking is illegal here in women's college hockey. The referees
are letting them play though a little bit. We've seen

(01:34:42):
some hits that would normally be called as penalties go unnoticed.
And that was me talking about Maggie Scannell earlier in
the udmission report getting called for that rough but she
had a couple of hits that weren't called. Kelly Gorbtenko,
one of the most physical players in the WHA, getting
her body on a lot of players in this first
and second period. But that's something The Badgers have been
dominating Minnesota State, and you could say that in most

(01:35:04):
parts of the game and shots, of course, in goals
and in defense, I would say too. The Badger is
certainly dominating Minnesota State on all fronts. However, in the
physicality category, the Badgers have been the more physical team,
which is something that can carry you quite.

Speaker 6 (01:35:22):
A long way.

Speaker 5 (01:35:23):
And this is a stat that most teams need to
lead in in order to knock Wisconsin off. But the
Badgers have been physical. They haven't faltered at all. They've
been quite perfect. The only thing I would say that
the Badgers need to clean up would be the turnovers.
There's a lot of turnovers, not just in neutralized, not
even in the offensive zone, but when they're in their
own zone. They've given the puck away to Minnesota State

(01:35:45):
quite a few times. And the player that you don't
want to give it to Taylor o Tremba, who had
that one goal in the series loss, the series sweep
against Minnesota Duluth last weekend. She got the puck twice
from a defensive zone turnover from the Badgers. Somebody you
do not want to give the puck too. The captain
first line center from Minnesota. That first line has been

(01:36:06):
quite good for Minnesota State, but the Badger's defense has
just been lockdown, Caroline Harvey perfect as always, Vivian Jungles
has been great offensively and defensively, but even that third
defensive pairing, Ava Murphy's been doing well. But Emma Venusio
has ha been quite a good game. And this is
a player that often goes under the radar. She is
a sophomore from Toronto. I'm sure she's happy about the
Blue Jays game the other day or last night. We're

(01:36:29):
not going to talk about that being a Dodger fan,
but we'll see in Game two tonight. But Emma Venusio
has had a great game defensively and offensively as well.
That's something the Badgers have been doing all season long
from the blue line is can their defenders take the
puck all the way, get into the behind, get behind
the net, and then find somebody out in front. And
that's what Venusio has done so far in this game.
She's done a great job. As far as the goaltenders go,

(01:36:50):
Avan McNatt has been perfect as well. She's had a
little bit more to do than she has had in
previous weekends. Looking back to the Icebreaker tournament where she
won Goaltender of the Turn, had to make twenty seven
saves in both of those games combined. She didn't have
much work to do, of course, only let up that
one goal in the eight one semifinal game to getting
a shutout in the championship game. She has a few

(01:37:11):
shutouts this season. She should have one more, and this
is an interesting one. She wasn't credited with a shutout
even though she played two out of the three periods
in a shutout. Rya Stewart then came on to make
her college debut and secure the shutout. The team shut
out for the Badgers, but unfortunately McNaughton was not credited
with the shutout. That's one of those strange rules where
McNaughton could have played fifty seven of the sixty minutes,

(01:37:35):
Ryan Stewart could have played three, and if there's a shutout,
it's still not credited to Ava McNaughton. So she does
have one fewer shutout than you would hope to have
on your statue, and obviously stats do matter. But I'm
sure Ava McNaughton's not too displeased with that, considering they
got the win and they got the shutout nonetheless, but
we're in for an interesting third period. The Badgers were
a bit slower in the second period. Minnesota State we're

(01:37:57):
a little bit better in the second period, so it's
gonna make for quite interesting third period. And then heading
in to tomorrow's game here at Lebon to conclude the
series against Minnesota State. Because we're going to take a break.
When we come back, Pebe and Greenee back on the
call for the third period. We'll be right back on
ten to seventy of the game.

Speaker 7 (01:38:20):
Badgers are coming back onto the ice here at Levon Arena,
where after two periods of play they have a three
to nothing lead over the Mavericks of Minnesota State. Goals
three to nothing scored by Cassie Hall or ninth of
the year, by Adela Chappo Valley Boba her fourth of
the year, and by nd Writer first of the year.

(01:38:44):
Shots on goal are thirty two to seventeen penalties in
this game so far, they've had three a side for
a total of six minutes. Face offs they have seventeen
for the Badger and we're ready for the face off
to begin the third period. And both teams, remember are

(01:39:07):
shorthanded because they had matching minors at the latter part
of the second period. So we're underway and there's twenty
two seconds remitting and then both teams will be back
at full strength. Back over to KK Harvey down to
the corner on the fireboards. Comes out of the zone
on the far wing, rinkhade on the pass. This is
Jungles skating in over the line. Shot at stick save

(01:39:30):
raybound was forced to the fireboards. Badgers look to hold
it in. Here's KK Harvey with a shot and then
goes into the glove of Hayley Hanson and the save
is made. Conversation downstairs centered on one.

Speaker 11 (01:39:42):
Well, one thing he mentioned or focused on was let's
be active on face offs. You know, whether we win
the face off or lose it, let's get after the
puck wherever it is and make something happen. That was
one area we wanted to work on.

Speaker 7 (01:39:55):
Face off coming up to the right side back in
Minnesota state zone picked up by the Mavericks and Wisconsin
will break it up at center. Ice comes around over
the wave of Murphy and over the line moving it in.
There's a shadow went wide by Cassie Hall and the
Mavericks trying to control. Badgers bring it back in over
the line by Cassie Hall coming off the wing, pulls

(01:40:17):
up to Scandal with a drive on the nice drop path.

Speaker 11 (01:40:21):
Yeah.

Speaker 7 (01:40:21):
Turned away from Scandal though, was Hayley Hanson with a
sad yeah from haul.

Speaker 11 (01:40:28):
The Scandal for a nice shot on goal. There looks
like Picard's going to take the draw here and she
wins it.

Speaker 7 (01:40:39):
And there's a drive and it was deflected down to
the corner on the near side. Coming back of it
to pick it up, Wisconsin per Card with it. Per
Card off on the wing on the far side, back
over Wisconsin holding the zone. BNUSI over the drive that
got deflected high and wide of the goal. Play continues,
Badgers on the near side trying to work it, but

(01:41:01):
it's going to go back over in front of the
Badger bench far boards and Wisconsin will chase it down
with Ava Murphy. Murphy slides it out of the brake
on the play ahead to her card. What card was
check lost control of the buck back in over the
line is Gillimett tried to drop the pass over to
o Tembra, but it went behind her and it's going

(01:41:23):
to be turned back by the Mavericks to the blue
line of Wisconsin. Back in over the line O Tembra
with it behind the Night of Wisconsin round on the
far side, Minnesota State trying to hold the Zona Wisconsin
Otembra down in behind the nap, tried to center it,
hit the back of the cage. Mavericks back to the point.

(01:41:46):
On the pass there's a drive into the glove of
Ava McNaughton. She put it away. And talking about putting
them away, you can't put the Mavericks away. No, I
mean maybe a goal or two more, but they're hanging
in there.

Speaker 11 (01:41:59):
Yeah, they're not going away. Wait, you know, and you
have one turnover and give them an opportunity to score
and they're right back in it, so you can't let up.

Speaker 7 (01:42:08):
Badgers have shortened their bench a little bit in this game.
You'd like to see everybody get equal opportunity, but when
you got a game like this, you're going to do that, right.

Speaker 11 (01:42:17):
Yeah, A tight contesting conference play, you know, and no
margin for error.

Speaker 7 (01:42:22):
Back in behind. Seventeen thirty five amitting here as the
Mavericks will turn and they slide it out a rink
wide on the pass over in the far wing, Badgers
try to force that play away, but it's going to
be dumped back in behind David McNaughton around on the
far side Wisconsin down on the corner, trying to control it,
goes in behind the net. Badgers will turn and they'll

(01:42:45):
fire it out over to Eden. Eden blocked it, picked
up in a pass and wristed a shot in on
Hayley Hansen, who put it away casually in the glove. Yeah.

Speaker 11 (01:42:54):
Nice work by eating there to get that shot off
from the right. Hash marks.

Speaker 7 (01:42:59):
Seventeen minutes and ten seconds remitting here in the third period.
Say two teams tomorrow here at Lebon Arena face off
time at two o'clock on ten seventy of the game,
and the Mavericks will cut it up and they'll move
it up ice and drive it back down to the
Badgers zone. Goes in behind Ava, cut it off behind

(01:43:20):
the net, worked it around in the near wing, trying
to break it out of the Badgers too. Here's a
potential break moving it in. Shot saved wow against Cassie
Hall who had the breakaway scandal. Drops it back to
the blue line of Wisconsin, and here comes Harvey. Harvey
comes in over the line. Harvey moving through whether the

(01:43:40):
drive and Hanson with a safe She went past two defenders.

Speaker 11 (01:43:44):
I was just gonna say, like they were standing pylons
there on the right wing. Unbelievable, just skated by him
like they were standing still and they were not.

Speaker 7 (01:43:53):
Man thirty eight to eighteen in shots face off coming
up left side of Hanson and the Draws set up
the Badgers with a drive off the blocker of Hanson
and Pekinhagen is out on the forward line and going
back over to try and set it up in control.
Coming up ice through neutral play at center ice, it's

(01:44:14):
going to be picked up by per Card. Pericard with
it comes around of the play back over to KK
Harvey trying to lead it off to McCarthy and the
Mavericks turn and try to lead it ahead the Gilamett
Badger's Harvey with it back hands it around on the
far wall. Wisconsin transitions out of their own zone, slides

(01:44:36):
it the center ice, Buck rolls to the blue out
of the Mavericks quickly on the pass back into the
Wisconsin line, Van Batavia lost control of the puck. Badger's
turn and they'll drive it down from right to left.
That got past Hanson rolls all the way out of
the zone, picked up on the fly controlling it coming

(01:44:57):
in over the line and ross there, but whistle and
action's going to be stopped with fifteen thirty eight remitting
in the third.

Speaker 11 (01:45:06):
Yeah, Eva decided to cover that up. We'll get reorganized
here with a face off to her right, to her left.

Speaker 7 (01:45:12):
My bad so far this year, Ava's eight no with
a ninety five save percentage, the goals against average of
under one goal per game and setting it up on
the break intended for En Right, who's got a goal here,
her first of the year in this game for the Badgers.

Speaker 11 (01:45:30):
I thought she got a stick and Right got a
stick on that, and they still called it an icing.
I thought she deflected that.

Speaker 6 (01:45:35):
Guess not.

Speaker 11 (01:45:37):
He was closer than I was, guy wearing the stripes,
But you'd.

Speaker 7 (01:45:41):
Never disagree with an official in your career.

Speaker 11 (01:45:43):
Right, No, heck no, no, right.

Speaker 7 (01:45:48):
Base off to the right side of Ava McNaughton, coming
up back in the Badgers zone. Yes, and back it
comes over to try and control it. Badgers try to
move it up ice and control comes in over the line.
They tried to center it toward the slot and Shapo

(01:46:08):
Valley Boba held the zone back to the point on
the pass Boo noosy over the drive shapeo Vallevovo with it,
slides it back on the brake, comes around over to
Abe Murphy shot tipped in front, back over to pick
it up, Shapo Valley Vova controlling it, goes behind the
nets centered and right right on what a pass from

(01:46:29):
Chapel Valley Bova and right.

Speaker 11 (01:46:31):
Yeah, there was like there was three Chappies out there
because everywhere you had turned she was coming up with
the puck. You know, good effort by Shappy there and
a nice, nice past and right in the slot.

Speaker 7 (01:46:43):
She's got to give us a little more time to
pronounce her name though she can't pick it up and
do that though you have no I know what.

Speaker 11 (01:46:49):
I'm just sticking with Shappy, the abbreviated version the nickname.

Speaker 7 (01:46:52):
Around back down on the corner, trying to control it,
and on the wing over to try and pick up
the puck. There's a Gorbatanco's shot deflected. It comes over,
Mackenzie Jones holds it in. Badger's in control here in
the third period, keeping the puck in the zone, but
they've only got three up on the board and to

(01:47:13):
the blue line coming in over the line control to
get that's tunnel down in the corner on the far side,
back in behind Wisconsin tries to work it out. The
shot is blocked. Badgers turn it away. Here's a potential
two one one all comes in over the line shot. Oh,
she missed the upper corner. Yeah, you could see she
was looking at it and she fired it. Try to

(01:47:35):
go up her right hand corner and the cage got
knocked loose. Back in the badger's zone.

Speaker 11 (01:47:41):
Eve has still made the same but the cage is
nowhere behind her, not.

Speaker 7 (01:47:46):
Getting up more down there. I hope they're all right.
Can't afford to have any other injury. Oh, I know
whoa that Potter.

Speaker 11 (01:47:55):
I'm trying to tell you.

Speaker 7 (01:47:56):
She's bend over. She's leaving the ice.

Speaker 11 (01:47:59):
Yeah, she's not feeling well.

Speaker 7 (01:48:04):
They can't afford to have any more injury. No, well,
let's see where she goes.

Speaker 11 (01:48:09):
She's Laney Potter going to the see the trainer, walking
down the island.

Speaker 7 (01:48:16):
Yes, she is the tunnel, down through the tunnel and
going get checked out fourteen oh seven or remaining here?

Speaker 11 (01:48:25):
Boy, oh boy, I hope she's all right.

Speaker 7 (01:48:27):
Paul face off coming up to the right side, back
down in the zone of Wisconsin, Dan Cook and Mark
Johnson down on the bench around on the far side,
coming over to pick it up. Dan Cook will be
with us after the game. And there's another check throwing

(01:48:47):
a shot that one hit the pipe man around on
the far side, coming over to try and pick it
up behind the net Bnusio with it angled it off
the boards, trying to control to play along on the
near side, coming back over to try and control it,
and back in behind the Mavericks behind the that of
Wisconsin thirteen thirty five remitting in the third period.

Speaker 11 (01:49:13):
Good defense by Jungles there behind your own net.

Speaker 7 (01:49:16):
Coming back over to try and control it. You just
don't have that confident feeling that you normally have watching
the Badgers. You think that if the Mavericks had pop
one could be a whole new deal here.

Speaker 11 (01:49:29):
Yeah, you know, And I don't know what it is.

Speaker 7 (01:49:32):
Well, it might have a lot to do with Sims
and Edwards not playing the number.

Speaker 11 (01:49:35):
One is there, they give you a little more cushion offensively.

Speaker 7 (01:49:38):
And going back in behind the net thirteen oh two remitting.
Got to play through it. It's part of the game, yep.
Every team has to deal with it at times, back
in behind, going back over to set it up. Vivian
jungles behind the back of it to KK Harvey around
on the far side. At times in the game, the
Badgers just make it look so easy. You don't get

(01:50:01):
that feeling here, no coming up, Ice controlling, get in
the neutral zone along the boards on the near side,
and it's hold held in the zone by Roscue and
there's a shot blocked, and the Badgers turn and try
to chip it out and get it going. They'll work
it up Ice. They come in over the line. Here's
eating with a drive that was blocked out front by

(01:50:24):
O Tremba and Wisconsin in front of the penalty box
area near boards, right down beneath us, over the KK
Harvey and the Badgers will dump it down in the corner.
Twelve oh five are many in the third period? Still
three nothing. Wisconsin angle it off the boards and they'll

(01:50:45):
play it back down on the zone and we'll have
an icing called and that'll draw the face off back
in the zone of Wisconsin or pardon me of Minnesota state.

Speaker 11 (01:50:55):
Yeah, they're going to face it off here to I
believe the right of the gold tender.

Speaker 7 (01:51:00):
Hansen, Venusio and Murphy paired defensively together. It's uh Chapel
Valley Bova along with Eden up front and and right.
There's a drive that went off and around the boards
all the way back down to the Badger zone. Venusio
back the slider ahead on the brake and Enwright tips

(01:51:22):
it down, but play is going to be continued Mavericks
with it moving up the ice on the far side,
played in over the blue line of Wisconsin. Venusio blocked
that one and going back over his Aba Murphy ava
behind the net on the pass over the hall All
tried to backhand it out of the zone, rolls back
down to the Maverick zone and going back over there

(01:51:45):
is goals Worthy to try and control it. Badger's Aba
Murphy does around on the plate of Gorbatanko with a
backhand or wide to rebound. Fired out in front. Loose,
puck came loose. It's set up by the Badgers. Back
out on top over the Aba Murphy shot a wide
of the go It's gonna be turned around by Tunnel
on the brake moving it up ice. That's Bishoff coming

(01:52:05):
in over the line. Bishoff tied up by Vivian Jungles.
Badger's turn and they'll try to break it up ice
on the brake. Wisconsin comes in over the line. When
we get in shot plow. The Scandal had a breakaway,
nice but it was turned away by Haley Hanson. Nice
move by Ski backing behind. Scandal picked it up again
down in the corner. Scandal tied up in the corner

(01:52:28):
trying to kick it loose puck. Cassie Hall taking a look,
comes over to help out Hal took it away in front.
Shut up, yeah, go by Garbatanco. Set up by Cassie
Hall and Garba Tanco hits her fifth over the air
and Wisconsin leads it forward and nothing.

Speaker 11 (01:52:48):
Gotta love that effort by Cassie Hall, going to get
that fuck beating two of their players behind the net,
gets it out front to Goarbatanco when she buries it
for her fourth goal of to day.

Speaker 7 (01:52:59):
What a nice nine thirty three the time of the
goal into the period man Kelly Gorbatanko gets number five
of the year. Great job, great job by nice hustle there,
Yeah yeah, great effort during the halfway mark here in
the third period, Badger's turn. It's now four to nothing

(01:53:23):
and Wisconsin with the four check peekin' huggin and out
on the ice. Along with that, they worked at different
combinations on that fourth line. Yeah, around on the far side,
over to try and control it, moving it in shot
backhander taken there. Good idea that was by Grace Bickett,

(01:53:44):
who's getting an opportunity to play. She was the extra
forward dressed in the game. Back out on top over
to Harvey. Harvey drove it up against the glass. Yeah.

Speaker 11 (01:53:56):
Yeah, Gillamette kind of got a stick on that, and we're.

Speaker 7 (01:53:59):
Going to take a break. This is Wisconsin Badger women's
hockey back here at Lebond Arena along with Mark Greenhall,
Paul Brown at this end, Sean Preeble back at the
other end with help from a couple of others. They're

(01:54:21):
busy down there. Yeah today, back there, around on the
far side, back over to Ava Murphy tried to drive
it toward the net, coming back on the control. The
Badgers try to come back in their own zone to
pick it up, and it's driven around the boards on
the far side. Wisconsin, we'll work it out of their
own zone and the play ahead with nine to twenty

(01:54:42):
five or meny going to be turned back by the
Mavericks Wisconsin in the blueline of Minnesota State Man Cato.
It's going to be picked up there by Strawmy Wisconsin
in the neutral zone. Just kind of working it back
and forth, but either team can get control all of
it to get moving.

Speaker 11 (01:55:01):
Here, right, a lot of transitioning in the neutral zone.

Speaker 7 (01:55:03):
And Wisconsin along the boards on the near side, there's
en ride with it. Try to go back door over
to Eden. Eden's having a good year already. She's got
fourteen points already this year. She works so hard. Yeah,
she sure does. Around on the far side, played back
down to the corner. Been the number one right winger
on that line for a long time there, coming over

(01:55:25):
to try and pick it up, and the play continues,
gonna be dumped into the Wisconsin blue line. Backed in
over the line. There's a shot taking a covered up
Ava McNaughton.

Speaker 11 (01:55:37):
Yeah, partially blocked and then trickled in and back toward
Eva and she covered it up.

Speaker 7 (01:55:45):
Canna have a face off to her left. Eight thirty
three remaining in the period. Forty five shots for the
Badgers twenty four Minnesota State and there's a shot glove
of Ava McNaughton.

Speaker 11 (01:56:00):
Guys, she's staying on it, finding that Puck's picking and
clean with the glove.

Speaker 7 (01:56:09):
Backup goaltenders Baker for Wisconsin and Riah Stewart. Boy, I
tell you what, even though they don't get to play,
you need to give them a lot of credit because
they're at practice every day.

Speaker 13 (01:56:23):
Right.

Speaker 11 (01:56:24):
Yeah, I'm grateful for their attitude, their team players, no doubt,
they work hard, and goaltending's a very demanding position. But
only one person gets to play in a game, you know, and.

Speaker 7 (01:56:34):
When they get around to Olympic time, somebody's gonna be
coming off that bench area there, so to speak.

Speaker 11 (01:56:41):
So every day of practice counts his preparation for that outing.

Speaker 7 (01:56:45):
You know. That must help in practice too. They got
to know, right, every day they got to perform well
exactly and coming up ice control to get to hear
scandal only got a badger down on the other end,
Scannon works her way loose over to Vivian door to oh,
courly shot hit the side of the mat. Oh, she

(01:57:05):
had a great opportunity there. Oh she wants that one back,
you know that around over the Scandal trying to pick
it up on the far side, and it's going to
be dumped all the way up the ice. What a
nice passing combination back there, but just got tied up
in traffic and you couldn't poke.

Speaker 11 (01:57:23):
It home almost like you said, good puck movement, good passing. Yeah,
they're gonna face it off here to the left of Hanson,
and I think we got Picard in the circle. See
if she wins the draw.

Speaker 7 (01:57:37):
Mary Anne Picard out of Quebec. In her career, she's
got sixteen goals, thirty nine assists around on the far side,
played back down in behind Alberson with it working the
wing on the far side, Hannah from me Dinah, Minnesota
and moving it up ice, coming in control, and it's

(01:58:00):
going to be dump back down back in behind. A
lot of the Minnesota players are obviously from the state
of Minnesota. Yeah, well you got Saint Cloud, you got
Minnesota Duluth, you got Minnesota State man Cato, you got
the Gophers.

Speaker 11 (01:58:14):
Yeh bamidgi Yep.

Speaker 7 (01:58:15):
There's a lot of opportunities for people to play women's
hockey up there. Yeah, let alone other places right and
controlled on the far side on the wing, trying to
go over and pick it up and Hannah Elverson trying
to tie up somebody there and get help from McCarthy.
Worked it out. They got kk Ronald the near slot

(01:58:39):
and she backs out to the wing on the point
and they try to Chapel Valley Vova and Harvey. They
try to hold his own six and nineteen remaining here
behind the net on the wing. They work it around
over and there's a drive by Pekinhogen.

Speaker 11 (01:58:57):
Yeah, passed to her in the slot, got defended, but
she was ginna give it a one timer.

Speaker 7 (01:59:05):
Chapo Valley Bova is pretty nifty with the stick and
she could make a nice passage.

Speaker 11 (01:59:11):
Yeah, and she's not afraid of traffic, even though she's small.

Speaker 7 (01:59:14):
Yeah. Yeah, she's listed at five to four.

Speaker 11 (01:59:20):
That's with heels.

Speaker 7 (01:59:23):
High heels, Yeah, yeah, exactly around there's a shot by
Murphy kicked away on the near wing over trying to
pick it up. The play continues down on the corner
on the near side, Wisconsin in control, back out on
top around over to Venusio laid back down on the corner,
back in behind around on the wing five point fifty

(01:59:45):
remenuting of the period, coming over to try and pick
that up and control it. And on the wing it's
Eaton's been to shut out so far here today back
to the wing on the pass over to Venusio works
the wing. It's Eden between the dots, fired it right on,
almost got through. Here's shappo valley. Boba passed it off

(02:00:07):
on the wing over to Eden, who fired it off
the board. Back to the point over the Bnusio. Around
on the far side, there's a drive.

Speaker 6 (02:00:15):
On the wing.

Speaker 7 (02:00:16):
Eden holds it in Aiden trying to spin and work
her way loose and does with a shot from a
bad angle behind the net boy. The Mavericks here they're
getting they're looking desperately to get it out of their
own struggling to get it out. Around on the far side,
trying to control it. Nice hustle on the part of
the badger. Good aggressive fortune you bet coming up. Ice

(02:00:37):
controlled it Finally the Mavericks work it in over the line.
They'll pull up and fan on the drive and the
badger's turning back. They come through neutral and comeing up
Ice and moving it in here scandal with a shot.
He kind of a towed dragon. Then fired it off,
but it went wide and comeing up Ice on the
near boards trying to play it center. Ice Jungles broke

(02:00:59):
it up plays it around over the hall back in
the zone. They got again and whistle and action's going
to be stopped here.

Speaker 11 (02:01:06):
Yeah, she was just not quite over the red line
when she made that pass, so it was icing. Bring
it back to our own end and start over. Boy,
this is period's clipping along. You're only four and a
half minutes to go. No penalties called, no goals, one

(02:01:27):
goal and no penalties. Yeah, not many stoppages of play.

Speaker 7 (02:01:30):
Wisconsin moving it up, ice, controlling it. They come through
on the lead. It went from Gorbatanco to Hall, over
to Scannal, Scannal back over to Jungles, shot it right
on on target, but she put it right in the
chest area there where it says Minnesota state on cato.

Speaker 11 (02:01:50):
Yeah, Hanson squared up to that went pretty well dead center.

Speaker 7 (02:01:57):
Face off coming up. Scannal still out on the Vivian
Jungles and Mackenzie Jones are back defensively, pull one of
the forwards out. The play comes around over to Jungles,
played it behind the net, back over the gore. Buttanco
she came from the corner, tried to work her way loose.
She's down looking for the puck and going back to

(02:02:19):
the net, trying to control it. Down to three point
fifty eight, remaining here and coming up ice on the brake,
coming back in o of the line, control to get
played back down in the corner around over to try
and pick it up. We're down to three forty seven,
are remitting in the period. There's a drive and Eva,
Yeah kicked that one out. That one almost went up

(02:02:41):
in the crowd. You've gotta be watching at a game
because that puck can come out of the drink here in.

Speaker 11 (02:02:46):
A big hurry, exactly right.

Speaker 7 (02:02:47):
Paul around on the near side, coming over to try
and control it, back in over the line and moving
it in. There's a drive kicked out Van, but Tava
had fired that that six'. One she got pretty good
drive off. There badger's play a Rink whild on the near,
Side wisconsin over the line to pick it, up but
their offside down to three point thirteen remainting in the third.

(02:03:11):
Period he calling ice or something here he's bringing it
back in her own. Head, yeah must have been, yep
it was forty seven three in Shots.

Speaker 6 (02:03:31):
Here we.

Speaker 7 (02:03:32):
Go jah goes back in behind the net around on
the far, side over to try and control. It played
back down deep in the corner on the wing to
the point in the pass coming, over trying to set it,
up And wisconsin will work it through center. Ice HERE'S Kk. Harvey,
oh it looked Like halverson was. Offside in, fact she

(02:03:52):
pulled up a little like she knew. IT i know,
it and trying to set it. Up she goes, whoop,
whoops a little too. Eager, yeah, man coming over to
try and control. It. Play it's held in By Cassie. Card,
yeah and the drive is.

Speaker 11 (02:04:08):
Taken nice shot By picard keeping in the. Zone. Yeah.

Speaker 7 (02:04:15):
Man forty eight to twenty three shots on, goal face
off coming. Up badgers are going to win the. Game
they're going to be nine to zero in the. Year
they have a twenty two game streak where they have
not lost or. Tied they will have a streak of
thirty six games in which they're. Unbeaten they'll have a

(02:04:39):
twenty one game streak in winning Against Minnesota. State other than,
that not much going on another there's still perfect on
the power, play that's number one in the. Country, well you, know.

Speaker 11 (02:04:55):
You hear these end results and you, think, wow it
must be. Easy but you know when you see these

That mark's. Practices you, KNOW i, mean every minute, counts
the every day has a, purpose and you, Know jackie

most out of these players and keeping them motivated and.

Speaker 7 (02:05:17):

nright coming over the line. Man the backhander went wide
of the. Goal badgers pick it up behind the that
ann right trying to control. It jackie has been around
the program a long. Time she's in charge of the,
forwards so we talked about the forwards and about women's

(02:05:38):
hockey and how it's changed over the years and some
of the reasons for. It there's been some big advancements
in women talking sure has a quality of.

Speaker 11 (02:05:47):
Play, yeah it's evolved. Exponentially and you, Know, jackie if
anybody's got it figured, out she, does you, know as
both as a player and as a, coach and being
around for as long as she has, been really a
valuable component of this.

Speaker 7 (02:06:02):
Program down in the corner on the fire side one
thirty five remnning in the period around of the fireboards
over to control. It also on our broadcast, tomorrow you'll
hear From Kelly. Garbatanco kelly's got a goal in this.
Game badgers have put up four on the boards here
down to a minute and twenty. Remitting Here's garbatanco comes

(02:06:24):
back in ot the line trying to slide it. Across. Yeah,
yeah to moving it up ice in the neutral zone
and it's going to be brought by The mavericks to
The badger line and uh playdon.

Speaker 11 (02:06:39):
YEP i Think jones is going to get called for
a penalty. There, UH i think everybody's. Okay but as
The mancato player was coming down the left boards into our, Zone,
Uh jones defended her pretty. Hard let's put it that.

Speaker 7 (02:06:55):
Way one oh two reminting a regulation.

Speaker 11 (02:06:58):
TIME i don't know if she was cited for just
a body check or what, there but she's in the
box for the remainder of the, game.

Speaker 7 (02:07:10):
Round on the far side and coming over to trying
to pick it. Up it's going to be played back
down one minute remaining in the period and The mavericks
will move it out of the zone and control And
Minnesota state going back in their own. Zone forty two

(02:07:31):
seconds a minting and The mavericks turn and start out
of the, zones they'll come up. Ice they got the
advantage five on. Four back to the point on the
play they left their goaltender in playing it around on
the far side and coming over to try and pick
it up and bring it out of the. Zone down
to twenty seconds for, minting And wisconsin is going to

(02:07:56):
win their ninth game of the, year and it's played
around on the far, side ten seconds For manican regulation.

they'll drive it toward the, nets kicked out and it's
going to be cleared down the, ice and The badgers
are gonna win it with another. Shutout they are now

(02:08:16):

a half seconds to. Go they're a heck of a
right pad save to preserve the, shutout Which i'm glad she.

(02:08:37):
Did and your thoughts on the, game Mister, Greenha.

Speaker 11 (02:08:40):
Well we were able to catch out a victory with
without some key, players and we'll build on that and
see how we do.

Speaker 7 (02:08:47):
Tomorrow all, Right we'll see you, Tomorrow, greeney.

Speaker 11 (02:08:49):

There, yeah.

Speaker 15 (02:10:36):
Definitely you, know we returned the five girls that you
know helped us a lot last year to the national,
championship and so we continue to work on just managing the.

manage the, puck we seem to play a lot in
the other, end which we want to.
