It is the show that shakes the south Land. Clemson

and beyond, listening to us on incredible radio stations like

(02:34):
Fox Sports Radio fourteen hundred the Midlands, heard around the
world on the iHeartRadio application. Downloaded today is free the website,
but the dot com on it dog gonet that's Clemson
Sports Talk dot com eight O three four five zero
zero eighty six. How do we react to the college
football playoff rankings. It's a great question. It is a

(02:57):
great question. Taking a look at the rankings with you
here on the program, Oregon the number one seed, no
surprise there, Ohio State sitting at number two. So two
teams out of the Big Ten currently one. Two Texas

(03:19):
out of the SEC checks in at number three, and
Penn State currently sitting at number four in the rankings.
You go, well, that's three Big Ten teams in the
top four. Man with a dominant situation for that league.
But no, no, no, that's not how it works. Remember, the

(03:40):
top four conference champions get into the college football playoff.
Top four seeds, I should say so. Miami, who lost
this past week and has fallen all the way down
to number nine. We'll get to that in a minute,
is one of the top four seeds. BYU who survived

(04:02):
to match up against Utah this past week and moved
up to number six, is one of the top four seats.
So we'll set up the remaining teams in the top
twenty five and then we'll knock down what the bracket
looks like for you here momentarily. So after Penn State
number five, another team out of the Big Ten, Indiana,

(04:26):
the Big Ten currently with four of the top five
teams in the country. Four of the top five teams
in the country. I don't know how that's going over
in the SEC nation, but that's what you're looking at.
BYU checks in at number six. Tennessee the second SEC

(04:47):
team ranked. They are seventh. Notre Dame, a conference list
team that plays a bevy of games against the ACC
sitting there at number eight, Miami out of the ACC nine,
and then Alabama at number ten. So there are three
SEC schools in the top ten. There are four Big

(05:11):
Ten schools in the top five.

Speaker 6 (05:15):
Now.

Speaker 5 (05:15):
Number eleven is Old Miss Number twelve is Georgia, Number
thirteen Boise State number fourteen's SMU. Number fifteen is Texas
A and M sixteen is Kansas State. Umber seventeen is Colorado,
number eighteen Washington State Louisville is number nineteen. Clemson checks

(05:39):
in at twenty the South Carolina game Cocks for our
fine feathered friends, peeking over the fence and hanging out
with us each and every afternoon, so you.

Speaker 7 (05:50):
Could continue to peek over the fence at the best radio.

Speaker 5 (05:53):
Showing the naked at number twenty one, ahead of LA
who is twenty second, Missouri is twenty third, Army is
twenty fourth, and Tulane rounds out the top twenty five
of the College Football Playoff rankings, sitting there at number
twenty five. Now, for those of you looking at the

(06:17):
rankings and thinking to yourself this week after, Clemson was
twenty third a week ago, and it felt like the
Tigers would have a pretty decent opportunity to move up
after the weekend that was that they didn't move up further.

(06:37):
I'm with you. I'm pretty disappointed in that fact, and
I think it is it is easy to sit here
today and say, well, Louisville is ahead of Clemson because
they beat Clemson directly on the field, right Like, I mean,

(06:59):
that's a way to justify that. But Louisville is also
six and three and Clemson is currently seven and two
and just behind the Tigers. Is the exact opposite scenario
where South Carolina is six and three and got beat

(07:26):
by LSU, but yet is ahead of LSU, who, by
the way, is also six and three. So Clemson has
a better record than Louisville and got beat by Louisville

(07:49):
and is behind them. South Carolina has the same record
as LSU got beat by LSU and is ahead of them,
so right there. From nineteen twenty twenty one to twenty two,
the College Football Playoff Committee sends out a like a
major mixed signal about the value of head to head

(08:12):
or overhaul ratings. I don't even know, it's so discombobulated.
Then congratulations, by the way to the game Cocks for
working their way in. I know for some of you
Tiger fans that'll be a bitter pill to swallow. They
all have a chance against the twenty third rank Missouri
Tigers to possibly surpass Clemson, to possibly surpass Clemson in

(08:32):
the polls because Pitt is nowhere to be found in
the new rankings, which means a South Carolina victory over
Missouri this weekend could likely vault the game Cocks over
the Tigers, thus pushing forward the narrative that we brought
up about might the game Cocks make it into the

(08:54):
College Football Playoff if they went out. I don't have
any reason. I don't any reason at all to think
that that wouldn't be the case given where they currently
sit at number twenty one. But the mixed signals and
for the SEC faithful, they got to be saying, what
do you mean? They're four Big ten teams in the
top five. And I think this might kind of circle

(09:16):
back to some of the conversations that people have had
if we're being honest, that by beating up on one another,
the SEC kind of stays in the mix. And look
at that right now seven Tennessee ten Alabama eleven or
Miss twelve Georgia. Georgia currently on the outside of the

(09:39):
College Football Playoff with the rankings that we gave you
Texas A and M at fifteen. But as these weeks
continue to wind down, Tennessee and Georgia playing one another,
you know, Georgia wins, they'll probably vault up back into
the rankings for sure, and Tennessee will probably be right
on the cusp but not being there. And these will
be teams with, you know, three losses, and and that's

(10:00):
where I would beg the question, do three loss teams
deserve to be in the College Football Playoff? Maybe? But
I mean some of these teams, I'm not sure they're
as good as they claim to be. And so it
just stacks teams upon teams you know that are picking
up losses and you go, oh it wasn't a bad loss.
And you know, I don't love to agree with a

(10:24):
guy like Danny Canal, but that's what Danny Canell will say,
and he's like, man, no three loss team deserves to
be in the college football playoff. And so if we
were to look at the rankings at this point, you know,
from that standpoint, what teams would you be removing from

(10:50):
this top twenty five or from the college football Playoff
at this point? I guess I'd say none. But this
week when Georgia and Tennessee face off, if the Bulldogs
lose seven to three, they should be cooked. That should
be it. And quite frankly, anybody else Louisville ahead of Clemson,

(11:14):
no way, just doesn't make any sense, does not make
any sense at all. Eight oh three four five h

All right, but back to the College Football Playoff in
those rankings again, you know, and and maybe I mean
think about louis If I think about Louisville, right, the
quality the win over Clemson is a good win for them,
and they're the teams that they've lost their three games too,
I mean, I guess that's the thing. But then I

(14:23):
really struggle to justify in that same breath South Carolina
being over LSU, even though I think the game Cocks
would have won that game, but Louisville's, Louisville's losses this
year to Notre Dame SMU and in Miami, I guess
are holding more to plus their win over Clemson. So

(14:46):
that's the way I'm looking at it when I check
out the College Football Playoff rankings, and it is weird,
Like I think it's already playing out being stranger that
people expected. When you talk about Miami as a number
nine team but the fourth seed, or BYU is the
sixth seed, but being the three seed. And you know,

(15:11):
I think when the concept of the College Football Playoff
was probably pieced together, they likely recognized that these things
could happen. But I bet the hunch was given the
circumstances behind the way Clemson had dominated the ACC, the

(15:34):
way Alabama had dominated the SEC, the way maybe Ohio
State had dominated the Big Ten. And I don't know
what you would say about the Big Twelve, because again
I don't really recall when by comparison to the twelve
team playoff, the announcement was made about Texas and Oklahoma

(15:54):
leaving the Big Twelve. But if you believed that there
was going to be like the sole dominant team in
college football or in each conference, I should say, and
you probably thought that most of these teams would be
like number one, two or three or four. I mean,

(16:16):
I don't think. And by the end of the year,
they may very well be. Okay, that's the other thing.
I mean, that's the other thing. They may very well
be the top four or five teams, depending on how
everything continues to shake out. But for Clemson Tiger fans,
I don't mind you for being a little bit irked, perturbed,

(16:40):
whatever you want to call it, that you're behind Louisville,
because quite frankly, I'm not sure. I mean, now, look,
you'll get a benefit if you do win that pit
this weekend. You will get a benefit if you beat
South Carolina, But with Louisville sitting in front of you,

(17:03):
it's hard to imagine that you pass them. Clempson's only
two losses are to rank college football playoff teams Louisville
and Georgia, which I guess that's a positive. The Cardinals
play Stanford this weekend and then they play Pittsburgh. Those
are their final two games in the ACC, and then
they'll play their final game of the season against Kentucky.

(17:28):
But if they win those games, I'm not sure you
pass them anyway, because they're gonna beat the same PIT
team that you play now. I don't, by any means
believe Louisville's not vulnerable. They've had a week off, maybe
they've lost a little bit of their luster from the
way they took care of business against Clemson. I mean,
that's a loss. I know it feels almost unforgivable in

(17:52):
some respects if you're the Tigers, But think about where
you would be right now if you had beaten Louisville.
Remember going into that game, depending on where you looked
in the polls. I think Clemson was either number eleven
or maybe I think number eight that week in one poll.

(18:13):
That's two weeks ago. You'll win that game, you win
this past week against Virginia Tech, these college football playoff
rankings come out. I mean, you're probably well established in
the college football playoff rankings right now. You're certainly at
the top of the ACC. You're projected at that point
to be the winner of the Atlantic Coast Conference. So
they gave a lot up that day, but there's nothing
you can't go back and fix it. The results of

(18:37):
yesterday are insignificant in terms of what you can do
with the future. You just got to go out and
take care of business. ESPN labels Clemson's best win they're
forty eight thirty one victory over Virginia, which was really
not that close if you recall back on October the nineteenth.
Their toughest remaining game is obviously that South Carolina matchup

(18:59):
on November the thirtieth. They say, why Clemson's here? The
field is as deep as the teams that can still
win their conference, and the Tigers are most likely spoiler
in the ACC race, which is their best chance to
reach the got Football Playoff if they run the table.
They would have a roade win against Pitt and earn

(19:21):
a tough win against South Carolina who's ranked number twenty one,
which would be highly regarded in the committee meeting room.
There are only two losses again to Louisville and Georgia.
Chances of making the conference championship right now for Clemson
all right, just nineteen percent. And I think it was

(19:44):
Don Munson last night on Dabos Sweeney's Coaches Show or
Monday night, excuse me on Dabos Sweeney's Coaches Show. Chapel Fowler,
who we've had on the program a couple of times,
tweeted out that Don Munson brought up the scenario wherein

(20:04):
Clemson might be able to get into the ACC Championship
of not one hundred percent sure on this, but Munson
said that if Clemson beats Pitt and SMU loses to
Virginia and Virginia moves ahead of Louisville in the ACC standings,
that would send Clemson to the ACC Championship game. He said, quote,

(20:30):
maybe Tonielli can help out the old album mater. Chapel
Fowler went on to say that why this would work
in this scenario Clemson and SMU would but be seven
to one and four and one in POD play with
the five common opponents they share. The next tiebreaker would
be winning percentage versus each common opponent based on final
acc finish, starting with the highest finish, which would mean

(20:56):
if we're looking at it today in the Atlantic Coast Conference,
Virginia is currently three and three in the league. Louisville
is currently four and two, and again, looking at Louisville's
schedule the rest of the way, Stanford and pitt I

(21:16):
could see a scenario where Louisville loses one of those
two games. Virginia, on the other hand, would have to
defeat SMU and Virginia Tech, and that would make the
Cavaliers five and three in the league. And possibly, I

(21:42):
don't know how, I don't really know how the maneuvering
would take place, but possibly they could end up ahead
of Louisville. But if Louisville drops both games, and yes,
certainly Virginia would be ahead of them at that point.
But again, it's all gonna start with Tony Elliott and

(22:03):
the Cavaliers beating SMU, and then obviously the other thing.
You've got to keep your eyes on is what happens
with Miami. Do they let one win or excuse me,
one loss beat them twice. They don't play again until
the twenty third, so they've got to kind of savor
and taste that lost to Georgia Tech for a while.

(22:28):
They've got Wake Force and then on the road at
Syracuse on November the thirtieth. So just nineteen percent, a
nineteen percent chance right now of Clemson making the ACC
Championship game. And you can put that into perspective how
quickly that shifted For a team like Texas A and
m they have it just a twenty point four percent
chance of making the SEC Championship. You think about how

(22:50):
good they were feeling just a couple of weeks ago
before they're lost to South Carolina. So kind of puts
Clemson's nineteen percent into perspective. Stay with us, Lawton Swan
with you on a Wednesday, the Show that Shakes the
South Lands. So last night the Clympson Tiger men's basketball
team was on the hardwood, taken on Eastern Kentucky the Colonels.

(23:14):
Of course, Clemson'll face Kentucky, who had a huge win
last night against Duke later on this season, but the
Tigers did find their way to a victory seventy five
sixty two. It wasn't easy. It was a competitive game
for a good portion of the contest. I'll give you

(23:37):
the rundown of that in a minute.

Speaker 1 (23:38):
Breaking news and this one is almost unbelievable.

Speaker 5 (25:09):
Chase Hunter scored nineteen in the game Victor LACN. Also
in nineteen, he had twelve rebounds. He had a funny
moment with the media. We'll play that for you in
just a little bit. Ian Shefflin scored thirteen points and
had nine rebounds. And so the clips of tigers, you know,
did not look spectacular at times. They looked a little

(25:36):
bit kind of like they were going through the motions,
almost as if they thought they could maybe flip a
switch at some point and that moment would eventually come
for the Tigers. As Victor Lakin would explain to the
media yesterday, getting a laugh from everybody in attendance, Uh.

Speaker 9 (26:02):
I would say, just I don't know, just keep keep
the course. There wasn't like I mean, obviously there was
like exce and nose that the coaches brought up, but
mentally they're like, I mean, once we hit the down
by four, I think like we had the the same
mentality until the point where we get down by four,
and then there was I don't think there was much spoken.
It was like okay, like there's let's go kind of thing.

(26:25):
I don't know, like nothing, It just I mean, I
don't know how many of y'all have being athletes. It's
just clicking your head, like I don't know how to explain.

Speaker 6 (26:34):
It to.

Speaker 9 (26:36):
Nine to five jobs.

Speaker 5 (26:46):
I don't know how to explain it to uh, nine
to five jobs. And what's funny about that to me
is obviously there are there are some guys that cover
Clemson and I'm not gonna I'm not gonna point anybody out,
but there are some guys that cover climps that have
never played a sport in their life. That's just I guess,
the nature of media. Then there are guys like me

(27:08):
and some of the other guys who played basketball throughout
they tried to walk on at Clemson, like they really
know the sport, etc. They really know the mindset that
goes into those moments. I think funnier even than Laken's
comments is the reaction of jaydon Zachary, the transfer from
Boston College, who just slowly, slowly puts his head down

(27:32):
on the table, just ever so slowly lowers his head.
And of course that moment that Laken's talking about came
in the second half when Eastern Kentucky took a fifty
four fifty lead with twelve fifty remaining in the game.

(27:54):
From that point forward, Clemson would go on a little
nine to zero run to take a fifty nine to
fifty four lead. Clemson would then string together a ten
to oh run to push the lead out to sixty
nine to fifty six. I think the Clempson actually extended

(28:17):
that lead out I put together a twelve oh run
to go up seventy one fifty six. So the Tigers
pretty much shut it down. They went on a what
is that a twenty twenty one to two run to
close out the game, to extend a lead out to
their largest of the contest at fifteen, and get a

(28:40):
win at Little John Coliseum. Again, if you want to
read more about it or here Brad Brown Now, I
will actually give you some of his comments here in
just a minute. But a late run sparking a victory
Clempson down three and zero. The Tigers will hit the
road for their first contest away Little John this weekend,

(29:01):
traveling to Boise State for a Sunday afternoon matchup, tip
off set for one thirty Eastern on CBS Sports Network.
So what we'll do is we'll finish up this segment
and then in the bottom segment of our number one, Okay,
bottom segment of our one, we'll go Brad Brown now

(29:26):
from Tiger Town with you here on the program. Eight
zero three four five oho zero zero eighty six. You know,
watching that game, one of the things that really stood
out to me. And I know I mentioned the fact
that James Zachary was kind of laughing in that moment
in the press conference, But I do think even with

(29:47):
just scoring six points three of eight, shooting zero for
four from beyond the art. He played thirty nine minutes
for this team. He's a veteran, you know, he's an
experience guy. I think he had what two steals in
the game, four assists, five rebounds. Just say, you're kind

(30:08):
of a multi tool guy. Scrappy, unheralded, and I think
you can kind of go on and on with what
he could bring to the table for this Clemson Tiger team.
And I think he's a great complimentary player the Chase
Hunter as well in the backcourt. Hunter, by the way,

(30:29):
goes three of six from beyond the arc. Clymson was
seven to twenty five. They shot twenty eight percent from
distance in this ballgame, and I think you'd certainly like
to see this group kind of keep that number fairly
consistent throughout the year. I don't know if it has
to be thirty plus percent per game. I'm not one

(30:49):
of those metrics kind of guys, but I do think
you got to be efficient when you shoot the three.
I think it's also a pro I must sing signed
to start the year that Ian Shefflin didn't shoot any
because I think at times a year ago, not necessarily Shefflin.
Then he'll have his moments where he will shoot him.

(31:10):
But I think there were moments a year ago where
PJ Hall is a big guy, kind of fell in
love with the three, and I think that can really
hurt you. I mean, it's nice to be able to
step out and finish, don't get me wrong about that.
But it's also I think important that when you're a
skilled big man, to be a skill big man, you know,

(31:31):
back to the basket bang in the post pump fake,
work hard, and you're definitely definitely seeing that from Ian
Shefflin so far this season. All right again, Yesterday on
the program, I mentioned having you guys tell me about
some shows, et cetera. I did finish. I did finally

(31:54):
finish up the Netflix series on the Red Sox. I'll
tell you about what I learned and what I felt
watching it in just a few minutes. Stay with US
Clemson's Sports Talk on a Wednesday A three four, five
zero zero eighty six guests free today more me. That's
a good thing. So I did it. I got through.

(32:19):
I wrapped it up, the Netflix series about the comeback
for the Boston Red Sox, and I think if I'm
being if I'm being fair about that moment, that or
that year. I think that's kind of when I became
a little bit of a Red Sox fan. Like I
tell you guys, kind of my rule with baseball is

(32:42):
I allow myself a team in the AL and a
team in the NL, and I tend to in the
AL follow the Red Sox. Not not with like some
grandiose amount of passion by any mean, but I do
you know, if they're in the playoffs, that's gonna be

(33:03):
the team I'm rooting for.

Speaker 6 (33:04):
Now.

Speaker 5 (33:04):
If push came to shove and they were playing the
Atlanta Braves, I can assure all you Braves fans that
I would be rooting for the Atlanta Braves. But if
the Red Sox were just in the playoffs against the Dodgers,
I'd be rooting for the Red Sox. Now, my brother

(33:24):
in law, who's a Yankee, won't love that, but that's okay.
That's okay. We can agree to disagree on our team
in the AL. I don't actively root against the New
York Yankees. I would pull for Boston against them. But
I bring all that up to say I got through

(33:44):
the final two episodes in that show and man, it
was awesome when they won the World Series. Some of
the stuff they were talking about, because it had been
eighty six years and they were talking about driving from
the logan I guess International Airport, I believe it was
to Fimway Park and how people were pulling over and celebrating,

(34:10):
and I got a little bit emotional, not a lot emotional.
I got a little bit emotional watching that because what
it reminded me of was the trek back from Tampa
when Clemson beat Alabama and the excitement that Clemson fans
had in that moment. And I bring that up because,

(34:33):
you know, I think with the success that Clemson has had,
you know, with all of the good fortune and the
great years, it becomes very easy to forget how magical
those first moments were in twenty sixteen, and to take

(35:00):
it one step further to those of you that remembered
the nineteen eighty one National championship. And I was too
young to remember it. I mean I grew up knowing
about it, but I didn't live it.

Speaker 5 (36:44):
And so I think the emotions that those people probably
had in eighty one would have been very similar to
the emotions that people like me had in twenty sixteen.
And I think it is a a tail in a
reminder of just how special the run that you have
had in recent years has been. And I think that certainly,

(37:13):
if you could have your brothers win a national title
every single year, you'd be the supreme rulers of college football.
But that's not the fortune that you have. But what
made nineteen eighty one special is you'd never done it before.
What made twenty sixteen special for so many people is

(37:33):
that they'd never lived it before. And to see those
Red Sox fans coming home after eighty six years with
the World Series, the fans stopping getting out of their
cars celebrating as the bus passed by. They go by
a cemetery and the cemetery is littered with pennants and

(37:55):
banners of the Red Sox on the graves of so
many of those Red Sox fans who died without ever
getting the opportunity to experience that. And it really did
put me in a place because obviously, with the godg
Football Playoffs coming out last night and Clemson being ranked

(38:16):
twentieth and by the way, if you're just joining the show,
the game, coch checked in at number twenty one, a
spot behind the Tigers. But it made me appreciate it
really made me appreciate those wins that we've enjoyed as
Clemson fans because, for whatever reason, being able to go

(38:43):
back twenty years and see what those Red Sox fans
felt like and went through in that moment when they
became the champions again after such a long and just
you know, an incredible draft of bad luck from the

(39:04):
Bill Buckner played with Mookie Wilson down the line and
you know, all of the things that they thought were
certainly cursing them. And I went, man, how awesome is that?
And I said, man, how awesome was what happened with Clemson?

(39:25):
How awesome was that final drive with Deshaun Watson. How
awesome was it for Trevor Lawrence and those guys to
just beat the brakes off of Alabama. How awesome were
those things and how fortunate have Clemson Tiger fans been
And don't get complacent, for sure, but also don't be unrealistic.

(39:45):
Savor those moments, don't let the time pass. And I
think the other thing too, And kudos to Kyllie. I
don't even know who made the I don't even know
who put the video together, but kudos to them because
you know, they touched on the end of the two
thousand and three series the Alcs between the Yankees and

(40:08):
the Socks, where Wakefield gives up the home run and
he's walking off of the field and Joe Torre, manager
of the Yankee, says something like, you know, the thing
that went through his head when the Red Sox won
the next season was just how Wakefield just handled it
like a you know, basically handled it like a professional

(40:28):
and just walked off. And of course, Wakefield passed away
back in October of twenty twenty three at the age
of fifty seven, and you know, to have those teammates
less than twenty years removed from that championship talking about
you know, Wakefield and his legacy and being the consummate
pro and you know, wearing that Jersey with the pride,
and I just man, all of it came together. Great series.

(40:50):
If you haven't seen it, I don't want to spoil it.
I mean, I know you know the results, but there's
a lot of stuff that went on behind the scenes
that I had no idea about that just really made
the idiots so to speak, as Johnny Damon would label
his teammates, made them stand out even more. Man, it
was awesome. All right, quick break, we'll put a bow
on hour one, next final segment of our one Clemson

(41:13):
Sports Talk on a Wednesday afternoon, NATO three four five
zero zero eighty six. So my wife and I were
talking yesterday before we get to some bra barn nowt here,
because I was just looking outside, how it's kind of
starting to get dark already. My wife and I were
talking yesterday. I think one of the funny things about

(41:35):
the time change is that it you literally shift your
clock one hour, just one. But I think, if you're
being fair, doesn't it feel like you shifted it about
three hours? Like why is it getting dark so early

(41:58):
just by moving the clock one hour? And I know
winter this, that and the other, but still it just
it seems to be a bit much for me. It
seems like it gets I feel like there's a lot
more indoor time, And I don't necessarily hate being indoors
by any means, but it does feel a lot different

(42:23):
than just a hour. Oh we shifted the clock an hour?
Did we? Are we sure somebody didn't pull a fast
one over on us and shifted two hours while we
were sleeping.

Speaker 6 (42:34):
Or three?

Speaker 5 (42:36):
Nonetheless? Brad Brownell last night, following Clemson's victory over Eastern
Kentucky's seventy five sixty two, met with the media. You
can watch this full press conference on our website clemsonsports
dot com. In the article covering Clemson's win, here's Brownell's
opening statement on the Tiger's victory.

Speaker 10 (43:00):
You know, very competitive game. Really proud of the way
our guys finished it. I thought, Uh, Blanton really tough
guy to hand on one on one. He made a lot,
makes a lot of those tough twos. But just give
a lot of credit to our guys. We got down
there fifty four fifty and the group that we put
in just I think they got twelve straight stops. So uh,

(43:23):
that was the difference in the game. We I thought
we started well, did some good things early and then
kind of relaxed, and Eastern Kentucky did a nice job
of settling into the game, into the game, and you
can tell they've got a good program. Their guys are
used to winning. Aw does a great job with them.
And then they, you know, just kind of whittled, whittled
their way back into the game. And we did not

(43:45):
start the second half well, and thankfully we finished it.
And uh, you know, I'm really proud of the way
our guys guarded, especially Zachary. He did a terrific job
on Blanton in the in the second half. And then
we just we did a little bit more inside out
and did some good things to finish it off. But
good win against a good team.

Speaker 5 (44:05):
That's Brad Brownell again talking about this Clemson Tiger men's
basketball team off of the heels of their seventy five
sixty two victory last night, Clemson putting together a twenty
one to two run to pull away after falling behind
by four. And as Victor Lakin would say, oh, you
nine to fivers out there may not understand that that's

(44:25):
not going away here on the program. A matter of fact,
that might get put on the clip to wall. I
might have that on the wall, so we can pull
that up anytime you guys call it saying, hey, Swanee,
what do you think about Davos Sweeney and Clemson switching
to a you know, three four defense or whatever if
that were to happen at some point down the line,
I go, well, look, I don't know if all you
nine to fivers will understand this or not. Anyway, Brad

(44:50):
Brownell was also asked about Dell Jones. Jones was two
of seven from the floor, two of six from beyond
the arc, and contributed eight points in twenty two minutes
of action last night. Here's Brad Brandell talking about what
Jones brought to the table for Clemson.

Speaker 8 (45:08):
Yeah.

Speaker 10 (45:08):
I mean, you know, it's funny in that time out
when were down fifty four to fifty, I thought there
was a point there where our guys were like, I
don't know, we were just where it's almost like we
were playing not to make a mistake on either end,
and it felt like, you know, they made some tough twos.
You know, you're you're you're in a tough spot against
them because they got a lot of guys that can
make threes and stretch it, and you know, they made

(45:30):
five threes in the first half, and then all of
a sudden, you're like, hey, we can can't give those up.
We got to hang tough. And then that guy starts
making twos and he's like they're guarded, he's shooting over us,
he's scoring. You know, we just kind of got a
little soft and just and then on offense, I thought
we just didn't play with the same aggression and got

(45:51):
a little tentative, and I kind of told him in
that time out, hey, we just need like we're at home,
we just need to make a couple defensive stops, make
an effort player to get an offensive rebound, get a steal,
fast breaking our crowd will get behind us. And that's
kind of what happened. We got an offensive rebound by Ian.
I think we got to steal by Dell. Obviously he
made the three, and then the game shifted our way.

(46:14):
We continued to get stops. So, yeah, Dell is a
tough kid, and uh, you know, we love his his energy,
his competitiveness. He's still learning how to play on offense,
but when he put him in the game, you know
he's gonna he's gonna compete.

Speaker 5 (46:31):
Brown Nell was also asked about what he kind of
learned from his team facing a little bit of adversity
in this game, which honestly is not a bad thing
early in the season.

Speaker 10 (46:39):
Yeah, just that what we needed to get stops and
we did, and that's been good. You know, We've we've
started games well and been able to stop people, and
then in the second half when we've had a lead,
we haven't done as well. So to be able to
change that this game and get a couple of stops
and we needed it was really important and that was
probably the difference in the game for us, something we

(47:00):
hadn't done to win.

Speaker 1 (47:02):
Breaking news and this one is almost unbelievable.

Speaker 5 (48:33):
Brownell was asked about the reason that Dylan Hunter didn't
play the game, and he said he had a little
cut the kind of got infected, so they just decided
to keep him out for now. He did address again, though,
how a tough matchup like that against Eastern Kentucky can
be beneficial to this team in the long run.

Speaker 6 (48:53):
Yeah.

Speaker 10 (48:53):
I mean, it's good to be in some games like
this where you have to execute and deal with some
game pressure. And you know, these games like this are
always a little harder on the high major team when
the game gets close and late, because there's the pressure
is to win, like you you're supposed to win, and
it almost there's no pressure on the opponent. And so

(49:15):
those guys kind of play with a free mind, and
sometimes those guys can shoot well on games like that
when you're not supposed to win, you can just kind
of let it go a little bit. And so dealing
with that is a good thing for our guys. And
you know, we've got some older guys that have been
through some wars. I thought they showed that tonight.

Speaker 5 (49:34):
Best clipson Hey coach Brad Brownell yesterday after clemson seventy

but I'm alright with it. I told you if I
could live somewhere where you put the windows up and
you don't have to run the heat or the air,
this is kind of It's amazing how quickly we go
from having to run the air to run the heat
here in South Carolina. But I do have the windows

(51:23):
up today, I do have the ability, or at least
right now, it's cooling down and when it gets too cold.
The great thing is you can just close the windows
and hope it doesn't get so cold that you need
the heat. Tonight eight oh three, four, five zero, or
eighty six of the new college football playoff rankings came

(51:46):
out last night. I'll give you a look at those
rankings again. For those of you just hopping in the car.
In hour number two, I gave some thoughts on it
out of the gates. Here, I've got some more thoughts
as I've had a chain. It's to kind of digest
it all a little further, pick through some of the
meat on the old bone. But here's what we're looking at.

(52:08):
Oregon the number one team in the country, followed by
Ohio State, number two, Texas three, Penn State four, Indiana
number five, four of the top five teams out of
the Big ten, number six BYU number seven, Tennessee number eight,
Notre Dame number nine, Miami number ten, Alabama number eleven

(52:32):
is Old Miss number twelve is Georgia, number thirteen is
Boise State. And in this scenario, because Georgia is twelve
and Boise State is thirteen, and Boise State would be
the highest ranked non Power four Conference champ Georgia would
be out of the college football Playoff. I'm sure that's

(52:52):
bothering people in the Classic City, But there's games yet
to be played. Dog Nation number fourteen is SMU, fifteen
Texas A and M sixteen, Kansas State seventeen, Colorado eighteen,
Washington State nineteen, Louisville twenty is, Clemson, twenty one, South Carolina,

(53:15):
twenty two, LSU twenty three, Missouri, twenty four Army, and
number twenty five Tulane. So lots to get into on
that front. Earlier. One of the things I noted and

(53:36):
again I have to I do have to yield to
the fact that the three losses that Louisville has at
this point, based off the teams they have lost to Miami,
SMU and also Notre Dame, those are all teams ranking
in the top fourteen. Those I hate the term, but

(54:02):
are seen as quality losses, and they have a victory
over Clemson, and they're ahead of the Tigers, which is
strange because right behind the Tigers is South Carolina, who
is ahead of an LSU team that beat them as well,
and those two teams have the same record, and Clemson
has a better record than Louisville. But I would expect
if Clemson goes to Pitt and wins this weekend, they'll

(54:24):
jump Louisville regardless of outcome, because all of a sudden,
that Pitt win becomes the best victory on your schedule,
and right now, as we mentioned earlier, now were one
the best victory on clemson schedule is perceived to be Virginia,
which is not great in terms of who they are.
Although although the Cavaliers and Tony Elliott went away from

(54:47):
being Bowl eligible and potentially from maybe doing a little
damage in the ACC that could help Clemson navigate to
the a SEC Championship game. But at this point, the
only thing you can really control if you're Clemson is
what you do against Pitt the Citadel in South Carolina,
and if you went out, if you're the Tigers, maybe

(55:07):
you get some fortune in front of you. The reality
is is that at this point, I mean, if you're
counting it down, if you assume that Boise State were
to win out, you would expect that they would be
higher than twelve at the end. So really, all Clemson

(55:29):
has got to move up is what eight spots over
the next three weeks you get a Colorado loss, you
get a Kansas State loss, you get a Texas A
and M loss here or there, and maybe in those
committee meetings you move your way up. And so that's

(55:50):
all you can do with the new standings in the
College Football Playoff is just continue to play the games,
follow the ones that kind of help you. I think
we're all going to benefit from the fact that it
is now a twelve team playoff. I think it's added
many more teams into the mix, which is healthy for
college football. But where I think this has gotten kind

(56:11):
of murky and messy for a lot of people is
the fact that you've got so many teams in and
so many leagues now, like it's always been four Power
four leagues. I get that, but it just feels with
four Big Ten teams in the top five. It feels

(56:33):
with all the SEC teams in the top ten, the
Big twelve fighting for spots, a couple of three ACC
teams fighting for spots for the first time really ever.
Because of the seven and two conundrum and the six
and three issue. At this point with teams with those

(56:53):
rankings and trying to sort them out, I think one
of the things that you have to add is would
we be better if this you know, these conversations at
the end, right the committee puts out a statement. They
put out a you know, the the chair will go
before ESPN and say, well, we just kind of feel

(57:15):
like what we saw from Texas this past week was
better than what we saw when Georgia was playing, said
you know, and it's like, what why why do we
have to just hear that or get a little press
release with some notes? Why not put that bad boy
on TV? Like we're in a day and age where

(57:38):
you know, the Real Housewives and the Kardashians and Big
Brother and the Voice and America's Got Talent and American Idol,
like all of these things are televised and you can
tune in and watch them, and people watch them all
the time. Big Brother would be the prime example, and

(58:01):
and and years ago, Big Brother used to charge you
through CBS to watch for twenty four hours a day.
And then I think they realized, well, we're not making
as much money as maybe we could make through the
advertising if we just put it on live with Pluto
TV or wherever it was currently listed. And so I

(58:22):
think that for the sake of fans, for the sake
of shows like this. With the college football playoff, there's
some debate, certainly with how big it is, whether or
not anybody.

Speaker 1 (58:37):
Who's breaking news, and this one is almost unbelievable.

Speaker 2 (58:41):
Yeah, it's all about new customers at bet three sixty

Speaker 5 (01:00:10):
Vested it all in a league like forget forget teams,
right because we know, well, when Dan Redikovich was on
the committee, if they were debating Clemson, you know, Dan
Redikovich had to leave the room, or if they were
talking about the Tigers. But now, I mean, there's so
much money that's pouring into leagues based off of, you know,
their entries into the college football Playoff, that it would

(01:00:32):
behoove somebody out of the Big ten to be a
little supportive of Big ten teams, it would behoove somebody
from the SEC to be a little on the side
of the SEC. And so what I would say to
the powers that be in the world of college football,

(01:00:54):
what I would say to them is this, let's take
out anybody who is connected to a specific school right
and get more people invested in the decision making. And
I'm not saying these these these rankings are just so

(01:01:17):
flawed that the individuals doing this are doing a bad job.
But I think you could have a little less bias.
Enter the conversation, and certainly if you are allowing people
to watch it, watch the debates go down, hear the conversations. Now.

(01:01:37):
The only reason I can justify that that's not happening
right now, I'll tell you why I don't think that's
happening right now ESPN because ESPN wants to be able
to have this grand spectacle five right, was it five
or six this year? I can't remember. We went through
it the other day five or six weeks where they hey,
we're rolling out the top twenty five. You gotta be

(01:01:58):
here so you could check in and see those numbers.
But if they're doing those debates live, I don't need
to be there. I already know what it looks like.
Thank you to everybody for sharing. Thank you everybody for liking.
If you're watching us over on TikTok, I appreciate you
hanging out with us and doing that as we go
live here on the program for just a little bit

(01:02:18):
over on social media. And for all of you that
drop in and give us a heart, flower, donut, whatever,
lightning Bolt, we appreciate you. But put it on TV.
I don't think you can make enough of pay per view,
kind of like I think Big Brother Learn. You're not
gonna make enough. You're not gonna get enough people that

(01:02:39):
are willing to buy it. But stream it. Let people
watch it. Willy chimes in be a TikTok. Willy says,
as a Texas fan, I think we should not be
three in the ap and a two seed in the
college football playoff. Well, one other thing, A little a

(01:03:05):
little confused on what you're you're getting at there, really,
because the reason you're two in the playoff pool is
because of the way it's structured. Now, maybe what your
argument is is that the top four should just be
the top four regardless, and that's just not what it is.

(01:03:29):
You know this year in the weird world of college
football with this new twelve team playoff, Miami, who is
number nine, is currently the team that is projected to
be the fourth seed. B YU is number six, projected

(01:03:49):
to be the third seed because of the fact that
the top four seeds go to the conference champions, and
there's there's great debate in that whether or not this
will be switched at some point down the road is
yet to be determined, but each conference is certainly fearful

(01:04:10):
that if that is not the case, that your league
could be left out of the top four spots. And
this year, if the College Football Playoff four to begin
today and it doesn't, the Big twelve in the ACC
would be out of the top four. So that little
clause is really put in there to protect each one

(01:04:32):
of the Power four leagues. And it will be three
teams from the Big ten in those top four if
you did it that way, with Oregon, Ohio State, and
Penn State all being in the Big ten and then
Indiana number five. Let's see a lot of people talking
about the game Cocks. We mentioned South Carolina here on

(01:04:53):
the program a little bit earlier. They are ranked twenty
first in the college Football Playoff rankings. In in a
well deserved ranking, Ship says South Carolina is gonna beat y'all.
He says South Carolina's defense is gonna have a field
day in Death Valley, Cedar Creek Cattle chimes in and
says the game Cocks defense looks insane. And yeah, you're

(01:05:19):
certainly looking at a situation where, for the first time
in a long time, we have Mike You've on the
program yesterday from Gamecockcentral dot Com, and I kind of
wish we were having him on the day so we
could talk about the game Cocks being in the college
Football Playoff rankings because I told him, I said, look,
based off of what I see, if South Carolina beats Missouri,

(01:05:41):
a team that currently has a five game winning streak
against the game Cocks, wins against my dad's Waller Terriers
and then goes to Tigertown and whoops up on the
Clemson Tigers and finishes the year nine to three. Given
the way that LSU game played out, given how close

(01:06:03):
they were to beat in Alabama, you're hard pressed not
to really look at them at that point as really
a ten to two team that was nearly an eleven
and one team. And for Gamecock fans, I mean, you've
gotta be You've got to be absolutely elated with the
way this season has played out, because for those of

(01:06:26):
you that are in the Midlands that don't listen to
the show that shakes the Southway in Clemson Sports Talk
on Fox Sports Radio, you're missing the boat. Because I've
been saying for years and the Tiger fans that listen
will tell you Shane Beemer is the right guy. And
when the hurdles and the bumps in the road have
come through, I have been consistent in telling game Cognation,

(01:06:50):
you gotta ride this out, you gotta stick with You
can't let the smudge on the windshield that was left
behind by hiring Will Muschamp affect your view of the
future with Shane Beemer, because what happens is is somebody
driving that Carolina vehicle down the road, you go go

(01:07:11):
he smudge is wrong than what they're still here. But
the majority of those issues have not been put in
that you know, in your view by the guy who's
currently running your program. And I think this season for
Shane Biemer has done more, has done more to finally

(01:07:33):
tilt his future in the favor of the game Cock
fans who are willing to stick it out. And you
know how close it was. Do you know how close
it was when Old Dominion was in town Week one
and the game Cocks nearly lost. I mean, let's be honest,

(01:07:54):
as much as South Carolina should have won the LSU game,
probably should have lost that game to Old Dominion in
Week one. You go from being a team that looks
like my prognostication of a four to a five win team, Max,

(01:08:15):
you go from that to if you lost the Old Dominion.
I mean, Mike, youb and I going into that Kentucky game,
we're literally talking about with South Carolina schedule after the
way they played in Week one, could they scratch three
victories on that schedule? And here we sit with the
game Cocks just behind the Tigers in the College Football

(01:08:36):
playoffs as these two teams venture towards that matchup in
Death Valley at the end of the regular season, and hey,
a little bit of bragging rights for this state. Quite frankly,
I mean, you do have Texas and Texas A and
m up there in the mix of the college football

(01:08:57):
playoff rankings, but you got Miami, but no Florida or
Florida State. You got Georgia but no Georgia Tech. You
got Alabama but no Auburn. You got Ohio State but
no Michigan. You go around the country, you got Old
miss but no Mississippi State. Tiger's are the game Cocks

(01:09:19):
if they both continue to win. Clemson wins this weekend.
South Carolina wins this weekend, they take care of business
against the in state opponents that they'll face the week
before they match up post Thanksgiving. Man, that'll be one
of the marquee rivalry games in the country. Like you
can go, well, how's the Egg Bowl looking? Not like

(01:09:41):
a good matchup? But Clemson in South Carolina the Palmetto Bowl,
if you will, should be a fantastic, fantastic atmosphere up
at Clemson this season, and I think Tiger fans have
switched on how they feel about that game. I think
there was a high level of competence early in the season.

(01:10:03):
I think there was a good deal of confidence midyear
that I think now looking at it, Clemson bands starting
to recognize what I've noticed for several weeks.

Speaker 1 (01:10:13):

Maybe four or five weeks now, maybe longer, you know
the South Carolina teams a real threat. I still think
more so defensively than offensively. And I do want to
again continue to recognize that the outcome in the Oklahoma
game is a bit of an anomaly when you look
at the numbers because of how South Carolina scored twenty

(01:12:07):

just take those points off the board either, right, they happen.

Speaker 6 (01:13:37):
Today.

Speaker 5 (01:13:38):
As we press towards ten thousand, we'll get there one
day the time, boy, I wish, I wish I'd have
been giving a singing voice and not good looks. That
would have been something. If I could sing, I'd have
been tough. Hoo ee. I'd have been ugly, But I'd
prefer to be handsome and not be able to sing,

(01:13:58):
all right, kay club Nick Clumps, the Tiger quarterback mid
with the media earlier today, and he was asked about
why he thought Virginia Tech was his worst game.

Speaker 11 (01:14:15):
Yeah, you know, I think that definitely.

Speaker 12 (01:14:16):
In the first half, just did some kind of immature
things that I don't normally do and haven't haven't done
it all this season.

Speaker 11 (01:14:23):
Just a couple of times just coulda should have.

Speaker 12 (01:14:24):
Thrown the ball away and on the grounding throw just
got to find a way to throw it near somebody.
You know, it's it's a tough spot in that position,
and just kind of got it either just dirt ball
it in front of in front of Jake and at
the kind of linebacker's feet. But yeah, just kind of
got to eliminate some of the immature stuff that.

Speaker 11 (01:14:43):
I haven't really been doing.

Speaker 6 (01:14:44):
And then.

Speaker 12 (01:14:47):
Yeah, you know that that's something that you know, I
feel like I can fix and we can eliminate and
move on from.

Speaker 5 (01:14:52):
So yeah, yeah, and that's exactly what I said watching
the game. I tweeted it out. If you don't follow us,
we're on Twitter at Climpson to Sports nearly thirty three
thousand actually more than thirty three thousand that you do
follow us over there. But I said that during the game,
and some people agree wholeheartedly. I said, it feels like
he's regressed. You know, he seems more confident, but it

(01:15:13):
really felt like he had kind of taken a step back.
Whether that's the entire season or just that ball game
against Virginia Tech. That may neither that may be neither
here nor there, but I think you hear Kay Klubnick
in that moment basically insinuating that, yeah, he thought he
felt like he regressed. He felt like he was playing

(01:15:33):
like he did a year ago. Clubnet was also asked
about the importance of having self awareness as a quarterback.

Speaker 12 (01:15:44):
Yeah, it's great, I think, especially endgame and you know,
I got to halftime and kind of realized that some
of that stuff too, you know, So having that just
awareness for me and being able to see that and
also have an offense coordinator that you know, he's not
just you know, tearing me.

Speaker 11 (01:16:02):
Up and stuff.

Speaker 12 (01:16:03):
He's he's being real and and say, hey, you know,
let's really focus on this and maybe you know, try
to eliminate that or whatever in a game. So but
just kind of to realize that for myself. And you know,
anytime that I get coached, you know, or or criticized
by coach, I don't.

Speaker 9 (01:16:21):
I don't.

Speaker 12 (01:16:21):
You kids just can't take it personally. You know, you
can't take stuff like that personally. You gotta you gotta
take that and see it as a way that that
you want to get better. And I think that that's
kind of been my mindset the whole years. I look
back at what I did last year, and you know,
I was told that by the coaches and looking at myself, Hey,
I need to get better at these things. And I

(01:16:42):
didn't get defenses about him and and try to defend myself.
I said, okay, sweet, what do I need to go
get better? And I didn't take it personally and I
accepted that challenge and I went and attacked the challenge.
And I think that's what it takes to to really
get better, and especially at the position of quarterback, is
it's a developmental game. You know, you're you're getting better
every single week. I want to get better through the
whole season and get better throughout the offseason. So think

(01:17:03):
I'll just see something that you know, the mistakes you've
made and how you can get better out of him
is definitely a good point of view.

Speaker 5 (01:17:10):
Braden says Swanny. How do you think Klubnick has improved
from last season, Braiden? I could see it at the
ACC kickoff when I sat down with him to talk
to him two years in a row. Obviously he was there,
and as a freshman, it felt like his answers came
from this file folder where he said, answer these questions correctly,

(01:17:36):
don't make a mistake. I think his play on the
field kind of fell into that same, you know, that
same mindset, like I think he was so fearful of
making mistakes that it caused him to make mistakes. This year.
When I interviewed him at the AEC kickoff, it was
almost like he had a file folder that said, Hey,
your powerful quarterback. The guy sitting across from you is

(01:18:00):
hosting a radio show. You got this kid, and and
like it was like a completely different feeling just talking
to him there. I thought, Wow, his answers didn't seem
as robotic, as kind of pre programmed. He was a
little more loose. He'd certainly kind of changed his look
up from this clean cut kind of guy. They kind

(01:18:23):
of had his hair slicked back, and he's like throwing
it back, giving it the old Trevor Lawrence if you will.
And I think that's helped him. I think that's what
helped him. He's just more comfortable being a quarterback at
the collegiate level. Big old Cole hits us up. He says, swany,
I need y'all to stay ranked so we can have
a fourth ranked win from the Game Cocks. Look, Cole,

(01:18:47):
as I said, man, this could be a great, great matchup.
Blake chimes in. He says, go Gators. He's over here
in Lexington. Gave us a little follow, and anytime we
get a follow, on the program. We try to give
you all a little papal thank you for that. Wempson

(01:19:08):
ninety seven says Swanne, we need to fire Garrett Riley.
I think that's too soon. I think that's too soon.
I think, you know, when you go back and again,
I don't have any and you know, how do you
kind of quantify the timeline it takes to really implement

(01:19:32):
an offense. I think that's certainly difficult to project. I
think we've seen flashes of what this offense can be,
especially now that this is a team with a much
more confident quarterback. And clearly you can tell that Bryant
Westco and TJ. Moore are really cut from a different

(01:19:53):
cloth than some of the older guys at Clemson, liking
Adam Randall, who we've never really seen take off. You
could see the impact that those young guys are having
pretty early on. Then. I look, I'm happy Adam Randalls,
you know, having a better year than he's had in
his career. But those guys have a different trajectory in

(01:20:13):
my opinion, just kind of looking at him, the skill
set that they bring to the table. So give it
a little more time. Don't push that panic button. Yet
Clemson ninety seven. All right, quick break, we'll come back
with a little more from k Club to hear. On
a Wednesday afternoon, still with us, Clemson Sports Talk, the

So kay Klubnick met with the media and one of
the things that he was asked about is just how
quickly he feels like he's been able. He kind of
talked about his self awareness and improving as a quarterback

(01:24:49):
and kind of going through the hiccups that he did
against Virginia Tech in the first half, but how quickly
he feels like he's kind of been able to identify
some of the mistakes he he's made.

Speaker 12 (01:25:01):
Was that, Yeah, I would say I recognize it pretty
quick pretty much. Try off the play, you know, you
know when you make a mistake and the sticks are
gonna happen. It's it's inevitable and part of the game.
But being able to recognize that and fix it in
moments is is I think key especially in game, being
able to recognize that and not be you know, like
I said, not be defensive about it, not be you know,

(01:25:23):
just selfish and prideful about it and understand that, hey,
I made a mistake, I recognize it.

Speaker 11 (01:25:28):
Let's go get better from it, and like always.

Speaker 12 (01:25:30):
Just have an attitude of like, at the end of
the day, I want to go be the best I
can be on Saturday. So when I show up on
Sunday and I didn't like the tape from the first half,
you know, instead of just trying to drill through it
and you know, I not really want to watch the
bad plays, you know, sat there and watch the you know,
just went through all the you know, not great plays
with Coach Sweny on Monday, and because I want I
want to get better. I want to see the things

(01:25:51):
that he wants me to get better because I trust
in him and he's my coach and if we want
to you know, go to places that we want.

Speaker 11 (01:25:57):
To be, you know, I want to I want to
play that best I can be.

Speaker 12 (01:26:00):
So just being able to, you know, recognize that and
and want.

Speaker 11 (01:26:04):
To get better.

Speaker 12 (01:26:05):
I think that is something that I just always am
wanting to do. You know, I don't ever want to
stay where I am because if I'm staying where I am,
I'm really just getting worse, you know, So I always
want to just try.

Speaker 6 (01:26:14):
To get better.

Speaker 5 (01:26:16):
K Clubnick talking about, you know, how he tries to
improve and and and again you hear that it's a
growth mindset. I think it's a totally different kid than
he was a year ago. And that's beneficial for the
Tigers because I do think, you know, every week he's
tended to get better. And that's why what we saw
last weekend in that first half where you're just kind

(01:26:36):
of like are we in a is this a time warp?
You're like, what year is this? K club That was
also asked about his highlight reel touchdown play, the one
where he was tripped up, kind of kept his hand

(01:26:56):
on the ground, popped up, looked downfield, located to J Moore,
and through a perfect pass to more more scored. They
gave Clemson a fourteen to seven lead and really took
a lot of the air out of the balloon, so
to speak. Up there at Virginia Tech.

Speaker 11 (01:27:16):
Yeah it kep draw.

Speaker 5 (01:27:17):
Yeah it draw.

Speaker 11 (01:27:18):
So that's why you kind of saw me tuck and
run it underneath.

Speaker 12 (01:27:20):
So I kind of a three way read on that
kind of I got my right side read and that's
kind of the initially.

Speaker 11 (01:27:26):
And then they went to zone, so that took it
away and then you know from there it's really to
run it versus they.

Speaker 12 (01:27:33):
I mean, they ran a perfect They could not have
I mean, we were watching film on Monday and watch
the game and we're sitting there good trially and like
they probably could not have drawn up a better defense
against that, against that play, like really, I mean they
were zoned to the field course of the field. You know,
went split double mug. Six guys walked up, which is

(01:27:54):
versus a five.

Speaker 5 (01:27:54):
Man you know draw.

Speaker 12 (01:27:57):
You know, you're having a squeeze down, so everybody's having
to squeze down with he's the outside guys. And then
they brought cat pressure, which is our back is free releasing,
so he's not in the protection.

Speaker 11 (01:28:06):
Back is releasing, so he's leaving the corner cat.

Speaker 12 (01:28:09):
And then the free safety came down and played the flats,
and then the field safety came over and clouded it
so pretty much took away the boundary, zoned off the field,
which is a man answer. And then they uh pre
played a six man box all walked up, so our
O line had to squeeze and couldn't take the cat.

Speaker 11 (01:28:28):
I mean they played it. I mean they could not
have been at a better call.

Speaker 1 (01:28:33):
You know.

Speaker 12 (01:28:33):
I just kind of, you know, felt zone of the right,
felt him coming and just tried to sneak underneath, and
you know, made a play at the end of the day,
but that was kind Yeah, I was a draw. So
that's why Ryan was downfield because he's thinking, you know,
I can get downfield because if I'm gonna throw, it's
gonna get of my hand pretty quick.

Speaker 11 (01:28:49):
So he had, you know, he could do that.

Speaker 12 (01:28:51):
But that then he's he turned around and saw me scrambling,
so he ran back.

Speaker 6 (01:28:55):
Yeah, it was.

Speaker 11 (01:28:56):
It was awesome by him, and it was it was
really cool.

Speaker 5 (01:29:00):
So that feels like a moment where it's probably probably
appropriate to go to Victor Lakin's comments.

Speaker 9 (01:29:09):
I don't know how to explain it to nine to five.

Speaker 5 (01:29:13):
Josh, Yeah, how about digging in huh got the pre
release backside Blitzer cat Man what? Yeah? Thanks, Kate, could
you break that down again for us nine to fivers
k Clubnick, We certainly would appreciate it, all right. Final
segment right around the bin here on a Chili Wednesday afternoon,

(01:29:37):
Stay with.

Speaker 13 (01:29:37):
Us, What have you done for me lately? It's a
fair question. Just don't lose sight of the bigger picture.
Don't forget history. Lucky for us at Clemson, the answer
to the questions what have you done for me lately?

Speaker 6 (01:29:58):
What have you done? Always?

Speaker 12 (01:30:00):
What the same?

Speaker 6 (01:30:06):
We win time.

Speaker 5 (01:30:52):
Final segment on a Wednesday afternoon, Clemson Sports Talk, the

(01:31:14):

to be able to, you know, put out better audio
so that you guys don't hear every little thing going
on in the world of my life and my home
while we do the show here every day. Nonetheless, again

(01:31:38):
we heard from K Clubnic before the break Again, I
think you hear very mature K Clubnick. Obviously last weekend,
that first half stuck with him, and rightfully so, stuck
with a lot of Clemson Tiger fans watching it, quite frankly,
because there was a great deal of concern that Clemson
you know, could have faltered, and that would have obviously

(01:32:00):
at that point I would have said, you know, slim
to none of making the a SEC Championship. Miami lost,
I opened up the door a little bit further. We've
seen people stop by on the chat and say they
think sm you might lose a couple of games. Maybe
so either way. Either way, there are a couple of
scenarios as I understand it, outside of Miami and SMU
both losing two games that would get Clemson in, and

(01:32:22):
one of them may very well be if Virginia ends
up beating SMU and finish US higher than Louisville and
then you get a Clemson versus Louisville and a SMU
versus Virginia matchup and they say, well, Virginia's ranked higher

(01:32:43):
and Clemson beat Virginia and that might put the Tigers
into the a SEC Championship. So about a twenty percent chance.
We mentioned that earlier in the program that Clemson makes
the ACC Championship game. You know, it's slim, but it's
not none. So we'll continue to see. You just got
to go out handle your business because if you stump
your it's certainly over and again all the eyes of

(01:33:05):
college football on this expanded college football Playoff. I said
it earlier, I'll say it again for those of you
just joined the show here in the final four or
five minutes of the program. I don't know why the
College Football Playoff committees conversations and you know why it
all has to be so private. Let's put it out

(01:33:27):
in the open. Let's put it on TV. Let's say, hey,
for eighteen hours on Monday, starting at whatever time until
whatever time, these guys are going to debate and they're
gonna have an answer, and let's let's if you want
to tune in and watch it, let's tune in and
watch it. I mean, it just bothers me that you

(01:33:52):
can have all these guys in the room, all these
individuals in the room debating who's better than who And
then they come out and you got one spokesperson trying
to explain how you've got just this situation. And there's
a lot of them out there, but just for people
in our listening audience, here, you've got Louisville, who beat
Clemson ahead of Clemson. Clemson has a better record currently

(01:34:16):
than Louisville, and you go, well, yeah, maybe that doesn't matter,
Sjuan he had to head. And then right behind Clemson,
I see South Carolina, and behind South Carolina, I see LSU.
The mixed signals there kind of blow my mind. Like
if it were Louisville, Clemson, LSU South Carolina, I could go, okay,
I see that, right, they've got the team that won

(01:34:36):
ranked ahead of the other team. But instead it's this
mixed signal. And then you get, you know, one person
that's speaking for the group, Well, we had a couple
of people in the room who thought that this that
or the other. Let's just put the room on television
and and I guarantee you, whether it's Nike, Microsoft, you know, whoever,

(01:34:57):
if they could get their banners and stuff in the
room so that you're looking at it, it's probably worth it.
It's probably worth it Andrew leaving the TikTok. Appreciate you, Andrew,
thanks for stopping buying again, thank you for the follow
Spider says, how do you feel that quarterback from South
Carolina is ranked higher than Kay Clubnick? In what way

(01:35:22):
are you saying the North Sellers is ranked higher than
Kay Club?

Speaker 13 (01:35:25):
Nick?

Speaker 5 (01:35:27):
Hit me up on that one, Yeah, South Paul, right, exactly. Transparency,
just a little bit, just a little bit. I don't need,
you know, maybe I don't need all eighteen hours, but
give me some debate. I'll be honest, I wouldn't even mind.
I'll take it this far, South Paul. I'll even allow
them to edit the video right, film it for eighteen

(01:35:48):
hours or whatever and put out a two hour cutup.
Just give us a little something like, I don't have
to see everything that's going on with the Kardashians. I'm
just picking a show up. Don't know much about it,
but they cut it up right. I don't need to
see everything. I don't know what Spider was talking about
with is he ready to hire him? And QBR? He

(01:36:11):
may very well be. I don't know.

Speaker 6 (01:36:16):
I don't know.

Speaker 5 (01:36:16):
I have to look at that. Did not get to
talk about Brent Vinnables here today on the program, but
Oklahoma's president and athletic director back Brent Vinnibles amid the
struggles Oklahoma five and five right now, and you're one
over in the SEC. And you know I'm a big
Brent Vinnibles fan. So we'll continue to keep our eyes

(01:36:37):
on that story in much more here as we get
closer and closer to the weekend. Don't forget Tomorrow's a
Thursday that means legendary Clemson sid Tim Bray right here
on the program until then, As always, y'all take care
now and go Tigers.

Speaker 1 (01:36:52):
Breaking news and this one is almost unbelievable.

Speaker 2 (01:36:56):
Yeah, it's all about new customers have been three sixty
