On a Wednesday hump Day edition of the program, Baby Gronk,
(02:00):
Christian Bettencore met with the media. I'll let you hear
a little bit from Bettencore first, and then I'll kind
of give you my thoughts on the type player that
he has the potential to be. But i mean, you
heard me call him baby gronk, and those aren't my words,
(02:22):
those are Dabo Sweeney's words. And there was certainly a
lot to like about the way Christian Bettencore played. Again,
he's a red shirt freshman, but there was a lot
to like about the way he played this past weekend
up in Chapel Hill. As a matter of fact, here's
(02:44):
a little snippet of Dabo Sweeney talking about Bettencore during
Sweeney's Tiger Hour radio show.
Speaker 3 (02:51):
Yeah, i mean Christian, you know, had the I mean,
we rotate those guys, and he had the two plays, uh,
you know, the one the same ball was the same thing.
We just we felt like going to that game we
could manipulate their coverage. They were very aggressive on the
back end, on on on some of the you know,
screening go type things, and so that was another similar
type of play and uh, you know, he put it
(03:14):
right on him and it was really it was really
good play though, just the kid was diving at his
feet for him to kind of clear his feet. And
go score and then just a well designed play on
the on the screen, down on the goal line and
punch it in. But you know, Benton Coors just he's
a really good player. I mean, I think we've got
an outstanding room right there. Uh you'll probably heard me
say it a few times. I mean, the kids, that's
(03:35):
as good as anybody. We got slogan brooking and uh,
but we're able to hold him right now. You know,
we'll see him more toward the end of the season.
But uh, we really like that room. Olson pat Henry
is a special player, you know. He and Christian are
just they're probably our best blockers, just physical blockers, I mean,
just great effort. Olsen was on I think he was
(03:58):
on the extra effort tape like three times. Things that
don't show up on the stat sheet, but as a
football coach, you'd love to see it.
Speaker 2 (04:06):
So that's a little bit of dabos when he talking
about Christian Bettencore and I played the wrong clip that
that's not the one where he called him baby Gronk.
That actually I think took place if I remember correctly,
in the North Carolina post game press conference. Let me
(04:26):
see if I can find that Audi year for you.
Sorry about that. Sometimes you got so much content and
goodness in front of you, you picked the wrong SoundBite.
All right, here it is. Here's Dabos when he was
going through kind of the stats of the day, and
he said baby Gronk, of course referencing Rob Gronkowski when
(04:47):
he was talking about Bettencore.
Speaker 4 (04:49):
He's been he's been a bright spot, and he's been
a consistent guy. Westco at twenty two yards of catch,
baby Gronk eighty seven, a couple of touchdowns, good to see,
good to see him make a couple of plays, and
just fun to play a.
Speaker 3 (05:04):
Lot of guys.
Speaker 2 (05:05):
So that's when it sort of originated. And so obviously
Dabo Sweeney has a ton of faith, a ton of
faith in Christian betten Core and the job that he
can do as a tight end for this Clemson Tiger team.
And it's one of those things that I've talked about
since Jordan Leggatt was playing at Clemson, Like I really
(05:27):
feel like if there can be a release valve for
k Klubnick or whoever's at quarterback, it's only going to
enhance Clemson's offense. And what you saw in that game
against North Carolina, and again I've noted multiple times a
lot of that is North Carolina. But you saw the
(05:47):
athleticism that Christian betten Core plays with. You saw the
speed that he plays with, and that combination at tight
end is something that Clemson really needs. And with his
frame six' four to forty, five maybe to. FIFTY i,
mean this kid looks really, good really. Athletic AND i
(06:09):
don't want to, AGAIN i, know Baby gronk was What
dabosweeney called, him AND i don't want to compare him
personally to the greats of college football AND nfl, football
Like Rock bowers At georgia a couple of years. Ago
but he does have some of the qualities that those guys,
(06:32):
possess and he has similar qualities to What Jordan legott,
had AND i really think more than any tight end
Since Jordan, leggott he might fit that billing of being
a guy that can do this. Job you never got
it From Davis. Allen you haven't really seen any of
(06:55):
these other guys on this. Roster there's a lot of
talk About olsen Pat, henry and Certainly olson Pat henry
is a, physical physical tight end and you might have
lacked some of that a year ago as, well but
this season in, particular it's still. Early six receptions ninety one,
yards but two touchdowns in that game Against North carolina
(07:19):
that make you feel Like bettencore's trending in the right. Direction,
now if you're watching this on, TikTok let me know
what you. Think Can Christian bettencore Become clemson's next great tight?
End looking at him and watching him, play that athleticism
is speed this, WEEKEND i really like his. CHANCES i,
mean he just has THAT it. Factor might even be
(07:45):
a better way to look at. It it's just AN
it factor about. Him it's got a great, personality you,
know as long as he stays. HEALTHY i love the
routine stuff daboswhen he talked ABOUT i actually wrote About
Christian bettencore earlier. Today we put that article out over
(08:06):
on our. WEBSITE i feel, like if he stays, healthy
the sky is truly the, limit which is What dabosweeney
said about. Him but in addition to, that his routine
after games Where Dabo SWEENEY i think this was on
his coaches, Show, no this was on his Weekly sunday.
(08:38):
Teleconference dabosweeney talked About Christian bettencore's work ethic and the
way that he comes, in the way that he. Prepares
Here's sweeney talking about that fact and the thing that
(08:59):
That ah really like About Christian, bettencore And sweeney also
References olsen Pat henry when he was asked about How
bettencore has developed not only as a playmaker but also
as a.
Speaker 3 (09:17):
Blocker, yeah he And olsen are elite. Blockers they're they're
they're not good. Blockers those two guys are elite blockers
if you really know what you're looking at and really
watch the tape and you watch how those two guys
block like they are really really, physical AND i think elite.
(09:37):
BLOCKERS i Mean i'd say the same thing About. OLSON i,
Mean olsen had. ONE i mean he's just does a
great job for. Us but, uh, Yeah christian is a complete.
PLAYER i mean he's he's, big he's strong to. Run,
uh he's he's, learned you, know what to. Do he
doesn't make a lot of. MISTAKES a nice job By,
kade you, know find him in the scene and and
(09:59):
a good job Benton core and just staying on his.
Feet got kind of doved down to his, feet but you,
know kept his kept his balance and was able to
score on the one and then you, know just a
little screenplay there down in the red zone that he punched.
Into but you, know he's he likes all of. It
he likes every he likes every part of playing the.
Position he loves. FOOTBALL i, mean he's just a, worker you,
(10:21):
know coming here today at one thirty and he's he's
got you, know he's out there jamming the, music running
one hundred yard sprints and walk, backs you, know by.
Himself and that's just Who christian. Is uh so, bright
future red shirt freshman And i'm definitely glad he's A.
Speaker 2 (10:38):
Tiger so there you, Go Dabo sweeney talking About Christian,
Bettencore and you, KNOW i just think that that's an
aspect of this team that has been, underwhelming honestly for a.
Decade and there have been some, spots, right there have
(11:03):
been some players here and there over the years that
have made a difference at tight. End but to have
a guy with the physicality that you currently, see the
youth that you currently, see AND i think the route
(11:29):
running and athleticism that you currently see From Christian, bettencore
it does feel like it's been a while AND i,
don't you, know want to diminish the job That jake
Brenning stool did a year. AGO i think Brnning stool
finished with like seven catches or excuse, me seven touchdowns last,
season five hundred plus. YARDS i, mean those are good,
(11:53):
numbers but it it never felt like Britting stool was
a takeover a game type tight. End AND i think
you need tight ends in this era of college football
that can take over the. Game and for several of
(12:19):
the top teams in the, country in addition to several
of the top teams in THE, nfl that tight end
that can impact the game positively is a huge asset
because of the advantages that you get from the. Position you,
(12:44):
know When clemson PLAYED lsu in The National, championship remember
they Had Randy moss's son at tight, end And clemson
had kind of hoped and had dealt with some issues
With Breidon galloway that, season AND i Think galloway maybe
(13:06):
in That National championship, game IF i remember, correctly had
a long. Reception let me see IF i can dig
into the stat book real quick and, fine see that
would have been twenty. Nineteen, YEAH lsu. Game two receptions sixty.
Yards Now Bredon galloway never panned, out never became the
(13:31):
type OFLAY i, mean, Listen Breidon galloway probably says, otherwise
looking at how many people follow him on social media
and the money he's making for posting videos on TikTok
or whatever format that he's Using, INSTAGRAM i don't. Know
but and he's doing pretty well for himself with the
social media. Thing but just thirty eight, receptions four hundred
and ninety five yards and three touchdowns in his. Career
(13:56):
but there was more In Braidon, galloway in my, opinion
should have been more in. There and maybe that's one
of The maybe that's one of the more significant indicators
About Trevor lawrence's career At clemson is that he racked
(14:16):
up all these numbers and a tight end was never
really a. Factor as a matter of, fact the twenty eighteen.
Season the twenty eighteen, season tight ends had seventeen total.
(14:38):
Recepts the tight end room had seventeen total. RECEPTIONS i,
mean that's What Trevor lawrence spinning the ball around And
clemson going on to win a national. Championship they had
seventeen receptions from the tight, Ends Breidon galloway had. Five
(15:02):
you didn't have to cover a tight end. Hardly Breidon
galloway had, Five Mylon richard had, Six Cannon smith had. THREE. J.
C chalk had, two And Garrett williams had won national
championship season seventeen total. Receptions, now if those guys had
(15:24):
seventeen receptions for ten, touchdowns Maybe i'd, say, yeah you know,
what they were impactful in the red. Zone that group
combined for just two touchdowns on the. Season What bittencore
had this past. Weekend matter of, fact let's see what
the yardage is on this one hundred and two when
(15:45):
you Combine galloway And, Richard Cannas smith takes you up
to one hundred and thirty. SIX. J. C chalk AND
i should not be doing math on the. Radio one
thirty six another twenty one. Yards that's one fifty Seven
Garrett williams four, yards one sixty one if my math is,
(16:09):
correct one hundred and sixty one yards total in that
tight end room in twenty eighteen. Total you think that
spot hadn't been? MISSING i MEAN i remember writing articles
on this at the time the year. Prior let's See
(16:32):
Miley richard had eighteen with a. TOUCHDOWN Dj greenley four
that's twenty, Two Kenna smith three twenty, five And Chadelle bell.
Speaker 5 (16:48):
Had won.
Speaker 2 (16:52):
A Jc Chalk but, YEAH i, mean Go lee go.
Back in twenty. Sixteen jordan leg has second on the
team in receptions forty six, receptions seven hundred and thirty six,
yards seven. Touchdowns like that's what a tight end productivity
should look. LIKE i mean, again you don't have to
(17:16):
Be Brock, bowers you don't have to Be Rob, gronkowski
but it would be nice if you could be kind
of a a The wish version of, it you, Know
wish where you order things. Offline people always make fun of,
that like this is you, know this Is Rob, gronkowski
(17:39):
and this Is Rob gronkowski if you ordered him Off,
wish just give, me give me, that And i'm gonna be.
HONEST i just pulled up Brought bowers numbers At, georgia
and quite, FRANKLY i Think Jordan legis numbers are going
(17:59):
to be very. PARABLE i just gave You lego stats
a minute. Ago this Is Bret bauer's final season At.
Georgia fifty six, receptions seven hundred and fourteen, yards six.
Touchdowns that's what you gotta be. Now his freshman year
was the year where he broke out though fifty six,
receptions eight eighty two and. Thirteen AND i don't, THINK
(18:25):
i don't think at any moment that you're gonna find
those types of numbers From Jordan. LEGGOTT i don't remember
what his previous years, were, LIKE i know they were pretty.
Good let me see IF i can go back and
get a couple of years, here real fast before the
break On Jordan. Leggott so get twenty, sixteen second on
(18:47):
the team in receptions forty, six, seven thirty six and.
Seven in twenty, fifteen that was another big year for.
HIM i remember multiple plays that he made forty receptions,
five twenty five and. EIGHT i, mean those are those
are Brock bowers. Numbers i'm going to. Retract i'm going
to retract my Statement Jordan, leggott this was twenty, fourteen fourteen,
(19:11):
receptions one sixty one and.
Speaker 5 (19:13):
One.
Speaker 2 (19:14):
No what we'll Ask Chad morris because he Coached Jordan
leggett for a couple of. Years we'll ask him about
the impact of a great tight end and an offense
and What clemson could potentially get out of a kid
Like Christian bettencore at tight END a zero, three four, five,
zero zero eighty. Six but, yeah those. NUMBERS i, mean
in his junior and senior, year if we're being, Fair
(19:38):
Jordan leggott was putting up numbers similar To Brod, bowers
and SO i don't know you have to have that
out Of bettencore as a red shirt, freshman but it
sure would be nice to get that out of him
over the next couple of. Years just six receptions this,
season BUT i think you saw the potential this weekend
In Chapel, Hill Lowdon swank Since sports saw back with
(20:01):
you on A wednesday, afternoon all, RIGHT i promised You Christian,
bettencore we talked a good bit about him out of the.
Gates here is the rich shirt freshman tight end talking
About Dabo swingey calling him Baby gronk after his performance
At North. Carolina, YEAH i.
Speaker 1 (20:20):
DON'T i don't know where he got, that, honestly BUT
i guess he's a great tight. End so it's definitely
SOMEONE i liked to impersonate at my game for.
Speaker 2 (20:29):
Sure, bettencore who wears number eighty, seven the same number
As Rob, gronkowski wast was asked If gronk was his
inspiration for wearing that number eighty seven.
Speaker 1 (20:42):
Partly the, Reason, YEAH i would say it's just a
great tight end number and a lot of the greats
have worn, It so that's definitely part of the reason
why were a.
Speaker 2 (20:51):
Seven there you. Go so he, says, yeah that's part
of the reason that he does, it but there's been
a lot of great tight ends that have worn eighty
seven over the. Years he was also asked about what
was kind of going through his mind on the touchdown
his first touchdown reception Against North, carolina which was also
(21:12):
his first touchdown reception of his.
Speaker 1 (21:17):
Career, yeah, honestly it was mostly just, instinct you, Know
Kate kate didn't have much time to get the ball,
off kind of put put it in a good, spot
caught it and saw the safety coming, up just try
to get out of the, way and then just a
race for the end. Zone and, YEAH i being the first,
Touchdown like as a, kid you grow up and you're,
(21:38):
Like i'm watching all these highlights And i'm like that
that is SOMETHING i want to do one.
Speaker 6 (21:42):
Day it's a.
Speaker 1 (21:43):
Dream so just to finally like get in the end
zone and do it like that little jump at the
end that was just like my, EXCITEMENT i, Guess.
Speaker 2 (21:52):
And, yeah that excitement we definitely utilized in a post
on social media where again Facing north Care they've got
The jumpman, logo got the Air jordan logo if you,
will And bettencore's leap perfectly timed up. PHOTO i can't
(22:13):
remember if it was From clemson or from FROM usa.
Today either, way the photo that came out was fantastic
and we said Air clemson as The tiger's cruse thirty
eight to. Ten this past weekend AT, Unc bettencore was
(22:33):
asked about what inspired his touchdown celebration after the.
Speaker 1 (22:37):
Fact, YEAH i don't.
Speaker 6 (22:43):
KNOW i WAS.
Speaker 1 (22:45):
I always wanted to do some type of funny dance
AFTER i, scored AND i guess that was the first
one that came to, head AND i did.
Speaker 2 (22:53):
It you gotta love, it, Right he's just so so
young and excited and you, know wanting to wanting to
be successful and have a good season and to like
have a good career really and to just hear that
youthful exuberance for the, Game like those are the things
(23:15):
THAT i feel like as, fans you guys are worried
is going to vanish in this nil, era, right you
want to hold on to. That you want to hold
on to the guys who still want to cross that
(23:37):
goal line for the first time and have dreamed about
it and are excited about the. Opportunity and it's not
just a financial. Move all. Right Here's bettencore talking about
his preparation and film study routine and you.
Speaker 1 (23:55):
Have, yeah SO i just every day just try to
try to be the. Best there's a quote that's like
if you stop, growing you start. Dying AND i feel
like you let other people catch up to you if
you don't do something every day to push. Yourself and
it doesn't have to be physical all the. Time it
could be watching film or like you, said but, Yeah,
(24:15):
sunday it's just kind of my routine to come in
and get a nice little recovery lift and get some sprints.
Speaker 2 (24:20):
In taking it a little bit, further he was asked
about how many of those wind sprints and things like
that he does after or the day after a game
Like dabbos when you mentioned.
Speaker 1 (24:32):
Earlier it just depends on How i'm. Feeling usually it'll
be from ten to, twelve just you, know nothing. Crazy
it won't kill me Because i'm still sore from the day,
before but just something to get your body still moving
because you don't want to be stiff coming into the.
Speaker 2 (24:48):
Week and if you're thinking like, me like why is
beyond his years right getting, out getting out, there keeping
your body, loose kind of working those muscles even the
day after a game where you might be, sore just
really working through keeping himself in good. Condition you certainly
(25:09):
don't want to overwork your body, either but to get
that soreness out a little, bit to get those muscles moving.
Some whether IT'S i don't, know you know dablished when
he said, SPRINTS i don't know if it's full, long
but certainly enough there to really help you out or
(25:29):
to help Out Christian, BETTENCORE i, think and good to
see a young man like that being as responsible as
he is in that aspect of it. All he was
also asked about what tight ends professionally because of the
Baby gronk, comment what tight ends professionally he studies the?
Speaker 1 (25:52):
Most, YEAH i would, say, Yeah gronk And Mark. ANDREWS
i think Most Mark andrews is probably WHO i take
watch most film. ON i think he's just a very
complete tight end and just everything he does in the
run game and in the past. Game SO i would
say those.
Speaker 2 (26:12):
Two so talking about being a good, blocker Here's bettencre
kind of giving an it kind of an update on
how he feels like he's progressed as a blocker throughout
his year and change At. Clemson proved in.
Speaker 1 (26:29):
That, YEAH i, mean coming in being a wide receiver
in high, SCHOOL i DIDN'T i didn't really block, much,
honestly and that was definitely something THAT i needed to
work on a. Lot but just going through like the
last year and a, HALF i guess and just you,
know going against some of the best defensive ends in the, nation,
linebackers you, know just going against our defense every single
(26:51):
day just really prepared me for every single game and
whoever we.
Speaker 2 (26:54):
Play there you, Go Christian bettencore talking about his ability
to get better as a blocker and the work that
he's put in as The tigers get ready to Face
Boston college this weekend on the, Road Chestnut, Hill that's
where it'll go. Down you could catch that game at
(27:17):
seven point thirty On saturday night on the A Cc.
Network all, right with a quick break when we come
Back Dion. SANDERS i mentioned his health and my concerns
about him about a week or so. Ago i'll update
you on that when we get Back Lawton Swan Clemson

Alumni hall right there on the corner of campus On

the sun goes, down it's gonna get nice and. Cool

(28:21):
hall's website right. Now you can find, it and you
can get there through our. Site, again It's Alumni hall
Where tiger fans. Shopping, hey if you're A clemson, student,
faculty member or in the. Military you get ten percent

Hall all, right coming up hour number, Two Chad morris
(28:42):
will join the. Program we'll get a chance to catch
up with. Him it's been a great. SEGMENT a lot
of people have texted me questions for. Him i'm trying
to make sure we get as many of those in
plus our questions and all of. That SO i mentioned
before the break About Dion, sanders and, Look i've struggled
(29:02):
with this for a multitude of. Reasons first and, foremost
he's was my favorite player growing. UP i know you'll, say,
well what did you follow him At Florida? State, no
not UNTIL i was at the Punt ruskie game DID
I AND i know he wasn't involved in that, play
but he did have a punt return Against. Clemson but
from that moment, forward always liked playing defensive back AND
(29:26):
i like playing defensive back before. Then BUT i liked
To swagger's. ATTITUDE i know a lot of people didn't
maybe like, that but either, way as he got to THE,
nfl playing in the major leagues and doing everything that he,
DID i on a Consistent basis followed kept up with
(29:47):
and certainly Supported, dion whether he was with The, cowboys The,
falcons The, NINERS i, mean you name. IT i tried
to keep up With Deon. Sanders and of course he's
been dealing with some health issues over the past few,
years and those health concerns continue as he recently went
(30:07):
under a medical procedure On, tuesday with the hope of
being back at practice and on the sidelines this weekend
Against Iowa. State, NOW i felt like out of the
gates this. Year this is gonna be a rough season For.
Colorado obviously the opening. GAME i, mean if they Beat Georgia,
tech maybe you get a little positive. Momentum but here
(30:27):
they sit off of the heels of back to back
losses twenty four to twenty one TO byu in thirty
five twenty one TO, tcu with this matchup against twenty
second Rank Iowa state coming up a legit chance and
DARE i say a likely scenario wherein The Colorado, buffaloes
(30:47):
who everybody was excited When dion went from you, know
a lower level of college football to the power For
there was a lot of excitement about, him a lot
of buzz a lot of you, know influencers and media not,
media music, moguls and you know everybody who's anybody kind
(31:08):
of wanted to be Around Deon. Sanders but he's dealt
with blood clots. Before he's had to have you, know
some of his. TOES i think maybe. Multiple i'm not
one hundred percent sure on how many of his toes.
Amputated and he believes that those blood clots and the
symptoms are. Back remember he had to have some surgery
done where he ended up having to have a sideline
(31:30):
or a bathroom put in on the sidelines so that
he can go to the restroom when. Necessary Iowa state's
five and. One they're favored in this ball game by
four and a half on the road At colorado and
when When dion Had shador And Travis, hunter those guys
made a couple of plays during their. Tenure whether it's
(31:52):
a Hail, mary whether it's keeping a play, alive whether
it's an interception at the goal. LINE i mean a
lot of little are punching a ball. Out you know
a lot of plays those guys. Made they maybe swung
a game or two In colorado's. Favor they don't have
those type those those type of, players in my, opinion
on this, team and without those types of, players you,
know this is what you. Get AND i think they're
(32:14):
gonna go to two and five after this, week only
four in The Big. Twelve, LOOK i get. It we
talked a little bit yesterday About texas And clemson and
and you know all the teams that are maybe labeled
as disappointments this, season you, know five to six game
in five or six games plural, form excuse me in
but you, Know deon And, colorado while they didn't have
(32:36):
the high end expectations that maybe some of these other teams,
did people certainly thought that The buffalos were gonna Be
we're going to get, better that might be the best
word to put. It we're going to get better Under Dion.
Sanders And i'm just not sure that that's the. Case
AND i don't know if the day and era has
passed that you can win At. COLORADO i mean back
(32:57):
in the late, eighties early. Nineties AND i think part
of this Was colorado's location at that time in The
Big eight before they ended up in The pac twelve
and now back in The big. Twelve BUT i think
when it Was, colorado it Was, nebraska it Was. Oklahoma
(33:19):
you kind of had this geographical aspect of those, teams
AND i Think colorado didn't get out, shown so to, speak,
geographically by comparison To nebraska Or. Oklahoma but maybe to
a degree some of that might be cropping up a
(33:41):
little bit. Now and it's not to say that in
The Big twelve you're talking about all these luxurious cities
by any, means but maybe going To colorado and playing
in the weather and the conditions and being a mile
high in the air and everything that goes on in
bold is it what players really want to? Do not
(34:04):
to mention and, LOOK i get, It Brent key is
killing it In, atlanta but you'd be hard pressed to
convince me That Deon sanders would not be doing better In.
Atlanta not to mention the, Regionality like recruiting To colorado
if you don't want to go out and, recruit is
going to be incredibly. Difficult recruiting To. Atlanta if you
don't want to go out and, cruit, recruit you might
(34:27):
you might can pull it. Off there's plenty of high schools,
Nearby SO i don't know Where colorado goes or what
they'll end up doing in the long term With Deon,
sanders but it certainly feels like at this point and,
again we certainly hope that he recovers and gets back pretty,
quickly but it looks like it's going to be a
rough year For Deon, sanders both medically and personally with
(34:55):
the football. Team and we'll see how things go. Back and,
YEAH i just noticed or found it was two of
his toes that he had amputated dealing with blood clots
back in twenty twenty one when he was coaching At Jackson.
State stay with. Us final segment of our number, one

There But Tristan. SMITH i know a lot of people
are interested In Tristan smith to transfer From Southeast. Missouri
(35:54):
who's come. IN i, mean he's rangy, long, athletic and
WHAT i like. Most WHAT i like most is that he. Battles,
dude absolutely. Battles Here's Tristan's. Smith he was asked About
(36:14):
Coach Sweeney's batman comments about the team that we've talked
about here on the show quite a, bit basically, saying,
hey you guys Are, batman, dude you can get out of.
This you don't have to know You're. Superman you don't
have to be stuck in this. Hole you can get
out of. It Here's Tristan smith talking About Dabo sweeney's
comments on.
Speaker 6 (36:31):
THAT i, MEAN i watched all The batman, movies the
new ones and you know the ones with you, know
the original, ones BUT i ain't never seen that, part
but So i'm pretty sure it's from a. Cartoon BUT
i do, remember you, know, everything from watching, that from
what he was talking about with The batman and stuff
that everything he said, about like the amnesia and stuff
that kind, of you, know stuck to me a little,
(36:52):
bit AND i had wrote it down in my, book
because go back and watch the, episode it goes all with.
It you, know just remember who we, are you know
from the. Beginning you, know we're a great, team. Man you,
know we just you, know have some, adversity you, know
at the. Beginning but you, know it's not about you,
know how you really. Start you, know it's about how you.
Finish you, know it's not about you, know getting out.
Down it's about how you get back. Up so and
that's what Coach sweeney preaches and that's where we live,
(37:12):
by you, know every, day you, know going to, practice
going to, meetings you, know doing everything the same way we,
would you, know if we were game planning ON lsu
the same.
Speaker 2 (37:19):
WAY i really like that, Kid Tristan. Smith i'm gonna
bump his audio up just a little bit for you
just in, case so make proper. Adjustments should he should
not be louder than me, Though. Okay Tristan smith was
also asked about what he's seen From Boston college on.
Speaker 6 (37:37):
Tape, oh they're really you, know they're a really great.
Team you, know they're, disciplined you, know tough. Team you,
know probably one of the bigger old lines we're probably
gonna face but LIKE i, said they run to the,
ball they fly to the, Ball they you, know show
a lot of. Efforts so just really love you, know
just watching them on, film you, know you know you
can see the, guys you, know he would be, like, oh, yeah,
yeah this team Is, yeah their, physical you, know, tough
(37:59):
and they or rather sit the.
Speaker 2 (38:00):
Ball That's Trista. Smith he transferred To clemson From Southeast.
Missouri he was also asked about what playing At clemson
means to, him AND i think this is significant because
again when you watch him, play, dude this guy is
fighting for, everything and quite, frankly fans love. It because
When clemson was up and coming right like When clemson
(38:21):
was making that climb to the top of college, Football,
dude these guys were. FIGHTING i Remember Wayne gallman like
just fighting for. YARDS i Remember Travis etn just fighting for.
Yards you, know the play AGAINST lsh or excuse, me
Against Ohio, state and, Look clempson was already had already
been to the. Mountaintop but that play Against Ohio state
(38:43):
twenty nineteen to go twenty nine to zero and enter
The National championship Where etn just essentially puts his hand
up and grabs a hand of An Ohio state player
and finds his way to the end zone when the
play looks. Dead, dude that kind of. Fight that's what
it's felt. Like clempson has been missing this. Season but
(39:04):
Here's Tristan, smith a guy who's just gotten into the
mix In Tiger, town talking about what playing For clemson
means to.
Speaker 6 (39:11):
Him that means, everything you, know just being, here you,
KNOW i, mean everybody know my, journey you, know from
WHERE i started to WHERE i am. Now but just being,
here LIKE i, said you, know my love For clemson
still the same as you know WHEN i got here In.
January it's still the same as you know WHEN i
came to my visit. Here you, know nothing's. Changed you,
KNOW i still love you, KNOW i love everything about being,
here the, football you, know the, coaches the, family you,
(39:34):
know really just being closer to, home you, know everything
just like just perfect with, me just being.
Speaker 2 (39:38):
Here and he is a, kid IF i remember, CORRECTLY
i think he's From, Lagrange. Georgia just trying to pull
that off the top of my. Head i've been To
lagrange several times in my. Life but, nonetheless That's Tristan.
Smith he was also asked about what he believes kind
of Sets clemson apart maybe from some other programs out.
Speaker 6 (39:59):
THERE i would say, everything and really. EVERYTHING i feel,
like you, know how they treat you off the, field you,
know outside of football and outside of the football. Part you,
know he's really trying to develop you as a, man you,
know because it ain't nobody ever gonna play football. Forever
so really just life after. Football and that's really big
on you, know WHAT i stand. For and they do
(40:21):
a really good job on you, know helping, us, uh you,
know just getting through. It, yes.
Speaker 2 (40:25):
MA'AM i love how he ends everything with, yes. Ma'am, yes,
sir just what a great kid? Man how did You
how could you not root for that? Guy how could
you not root For here's another. Thing he was asking
about his connection With clemson Quarterback Kak. Clubny by the,
WAY i mentioned that Kay clubnic also spoke. Today we'll
have some audio From Ki clubnick for, you uh maybe
(40:48):
an hour number two after we wrap up with With Chad.
Morrise but Here's Tristan smith talking about his connection With
clemson Quarterback Kaye. Clubnck uh really really.
Speaker 6 (40:58):
GOOD i love ka you know k live you, know
really close to, me SO i see him every, day
and you, know we always makes jokes with each. Other
he takes me actually last night and, said you, know
out of nowhere just AND i love you. Man and
you know that just you, know resonates with, me you,
know seeing them just you, know taking time out of
day to just send me a simple text message like,
that you, Know AND i really love that.
Speaker 2 (41:18):
Guy And i'm anxious to see, where you, know his
career goes the remaining time that he's got In. Clemson
AND i don't know that we actually know how that's
gonna work out For Tristan. SMITH i mean that's that's
one of the issues with the. PORTAL i, mean you
(41:38):
can go out there and get some, guys, right but
some of the guys come in with some years of.
Experience and at this, point there's some hope that he
might be able to get a couple of additional. Years
he's a senior right. NOW i think they're hoping he
(42:00):
can at least squeeze one more. Year but we'll. SEE
i just don't know what all the rules are with.
That and he played at you, know a smaller school
even before HE i think it was like a prep
school or, whatever and so you know he still might
have a little bit of time. Left, hey you know
who doesn't have time left us in this, Segment Chad,
morris Former clipson offensive, coordinator on the flip, side keep

Great great to be a part and obviously a great
weekend for The. Tigers and uh and wh who's so
uh always look forward to and enjoined you in joining
you Every, wednesday, Man.
Speaker 2 (43:56):
I'll tell you. What Uh virginia And chandler and your
Son chandler for those that don't, Know Chandler, morris the
quarterback for The, cavaliers just continuing to find a. Way
dabosuene was asked about Seeing Tony elliott and The cavaliers
on top of THE A sec. Standings they're three and.
ZERO i. THINK i, mean, listen every game that you
(44:16):
play is a, battle no doubt about. It BUT i
think they got a fairly favorable schedule down the. STRETCH
i like where they sit right. NOW i know you're.
Excited what's it been like to kind of ride this
start to a five and one? Season but three and
oh in The Atlantic Coast?
Speaker 5 (44:30):
Conference, Coach, well you, know first of, all THE i call,
HIM i Told. CHANDLER i actually Told tony this the other.
Speaker 8 (44:36):
Day is?
Speaker 5 (44:36):
It that's The Cardiac, cavaliers. MAN i, mean if you
better have a good, heart if you're gonna go watch these.
GUYS i, Mean i'm telling you they're gonna make. It
they're gonna make it interesting and and rightfully. So but uh,
man what a what a what a great start of
the season for these. Guys it's so deserving for For
tony and that, university and you, know to see the
(44:57):
success and LIKE i said, before just to know that
we have a small part of this and you, Know
chandler being there and and playing such a at a high,
level and and, uh you know it is it's been.
Fun not so much fun during the, game but after the,
game it's. Fun, uh but, uh you, know just to
just to see you seeing playing well and finding a
(45:18):
way to win and just just being, greedy finding that
greedy win and, uh it says a lot about where
where they are and and you know you mentioned, it
but They, YEAH i like where they're. SITTING i think
they got a legit. Chance obviously you got to take
it one week at a, time but, uh probably gonna
be favored in every game the next six. Games and you,
(45:40):
know you got a, chance and so we'll. See we'll
take it one week at a. Time but, uh just
keep stacking days and putting one foot in front of the,
OTHER i always, Say and, uh see see what happens
at the end Of, november a lot a lot of ball.
Left it becomes a mental grind at this, point you,
know the second half the season is more mentally and physic,
challenging but, man these guys are sitting in a great
(46:03):
spot right now going into an open.
Speaker 2 (46:05):
WEEK i heard an interview or a portion of an
interview With Tony elliott this week and you may have
seen it on social, media and essentially he said that
he would be the last one out of the locker
room before practice and he would go and flush every
urinal ar toilet that had not been flushed by the
players before, practice and he would do, that and then
(46:28):
he eventually brought it up to Him he, said, guys you,
know if if you're not flushing the toilet for the
guy that's coming to use the restroom after, you then
how are you, gonna you, know live and die for
these guys on the field on a big fourth down
in a ball game if you don't have the decency
to do. That and you, know it's, amazing, coach BECAUSE
i think it's such a small thing in the grand,
(46:50):
scheme but it's kind of like a pebble in, water,
right it just sends a ripple effect throughout your. Program
have you heard those comments From Coach elliott and what
do you think about kind of the way he framed that.
Speaker 5 (47:03):
Up if you did hear, it, well you, know we're
both cut out of the same. Mold you, know we're
cut out of the Same clemson. Mold and and it
is it's the little things that matter the. Most and
if you can take care of the little, things then
winning takes care of. Itself and you, know it's the
old analogy of you, know it's not the mountain in
(47:23):
front of you that gets it's it's that little small
pebble in your shoe that wears you down and you
can't climb the. Mountain and so it, is it's you,
know and does that surprise? ME i, DID i did
see the, Interview and it is it's the little. Things
and you, Know tony has done a tremendous job over
the last three years of one getting his guys in,
(47:48):
there you, know getting the guys that stand for what
he stands, for and that takes time and and but
what you really really like, is and it's so hard to,
do is when things go wrong and you're going through
some hard times Like tony's, done it's easy to. Change
(48:08):
it's easy to to bend a little bit and just you,
know pick your. Battles you, know WHAT i WHAT i
Command tony on doing is he's been he's stood. Strong
sure he's waivered in some, areas but he stood strong
of what he firmly believes and and it is it's
it's the small. Things and AND i guarantee you you,
know just just the ability to to flush the commodes
(48:31):
and you, know pick up your trash around your. Locker,
again those are things, that LIKE i, said we're all
cut out of the same. Mold They're, clemson the same
things that THE davo is instilled and in us as.
Coaches and you, know we always had a, saying you
get what you, inspect not what you. Expect and so
if you tell somebody here's my, expectations well that's one.
(48:52):
Thing but when you really hold somebody accountable for, it
now you're inspecting what they do and and and that's
What tony done a great job. Of and not just,
Him and he'd be the first to tell you it's
it's not, him it's his. Staff and the staff believes
in it and went in as a byproduct of taking
care of the small things and being attention to the
(49:16):
details of.
Speaker 2 (49:16):
Things back to back overtime victory is a double overtime
victory Over Florida state for The. Cavaliers, now for our,
listeners you might be looking at their schedule and, saying, hey, hey, hey
wait a, Minute, swiner you're. Wrong they're not three and
o in THE. Acc they lost THE Nc. State, no
that was an out the conference, game, oddly just to
make sure that those two teams get to face. Off
some schools have done that with an Expanded Atlantic Coast.
(49:37):
Conference and that's why The cavaliers are currently three and
ohero in THE acc and sitting on top of the.
Conference they're off this. Week they'll be back on the
gridiron Against Washington state on THE cw on six Thirty,
october the. Eighteenth Chad moore hanging out with this year
on the program, Today. COACH i mentioned to you before
you came, ON i wanted to talk to you a
little bit about tight end. Play i've kind of look
(50:00):
at the, years even When Tony elliott was the offensive,
coordinator after you Left, clemson Once Jordan leggatt went to
THE nfl for a season or two had a cup
of tea in THE. NFL i guess you might say
the tight end position has not been utilized all that
well At, clemson in my, opinion they got a, Kid Christian.
Bettencore i'm sure you saw him this weekend two touchdown and.
(50:21):
Receptions but the thing that impressed me the most rich
at freshman out Of illinois is his. Athleticism and to,
me he looks more like A Jordan leggott than any
player we've had at tight end At clemson in a,
while outside of Maybe Braydon, galloway And galloway never really panned.
Out but just your thoughts on tight end play, specifically
(50:42):
we've seen. It you, know it Brought bowers At. Georgia
what an asset a great tight end can. Be you
certainly utilized the tight end during your time At. Clemson
talk to us a little bit about that position in
an offense like, yours and JUST i guess maybe even in,
general and how valuable it can.
Speaker 5 (50:56):
Be, yeah you, know going back to you, know by
the time At tulsa we Had Charles clay and you,
know PUSH i Think charles wind up playing six or
seven years for The dolphins and and, then, uh you,
know we utilize him and in so many different. Ways
and you know what what a tight end does is
it creates, mismatches and it's real. Simple AND i firmly believe,
(51:22):
that you, know winning at a high, level you got
to involve the tight. End And i'll tell you a
quick story and Then i'll get back to, that But
i'll never forget MY i first get To clemson and
it's a SPRING i have my first team meeting with
with our, guys AND uh Coach win introduces me to,
everybody And i'm telling, Him, hey we're this two, back
(51:43):
run oriented, play actually shot football. Team, Man we're gonna
we're gonna spread people, sideline the sideline and his zoned end,
zone and we're gonna do it. Creatively AND i finished my.
Talk i'm feeling pretty good about things THAT i get
to hand it in the audience AND i look at
(52:03):
him and It's Dwayne allen And dwayne raises his hand
and he, goes are you going to use a tight?
End AND i, Said, dwayne if, you'll if you'll trust,
Me i'll make you one of the best tight ends
in the. Country and, Lovaa dwayne wins The Mikey award
that year the best tight. End and you know our
ability to create. Mismatches so how that works is, This
(52:24):
it's real. Simple when you have a versatile tight, end
and WHAT i mean by that is a guy that
can put his hand on the ground and play an
attached on the line tight end right beside the tackle
and block and run you, know choice, routes a little
small intermediate. Routes and he can also back off the
(52:45):
line of scriptag and line up in the, backfield and
he can, motion and he can run, verticals and he
can still. Block and what that does is for a
defensive coordinator is they got to, Ask they got to
figure out how they're going to play. You are they
gonna play you as a treat him as a true
(53:05):
on the line tied. End and if they, do then
they're gonna bring in a Heavier sam linebacker that's not
as good in, space but it's really good and supporting the.
Run and so when you do, that the cat and
mouse game with this is from a, coordinator, stand what is. Ok,
okay you're bringing Your sam bicker on the. Field, Great
(53:27):
i'm gonna Take Dwayne allen Or Brandon ford Or Jordan.
Leggott i'm gonna flex him out and Now i'm gonna
put those guys in space against your, bigger slower maybe
a little Stiffer sam, backer And i'm really gonna create
some mismatches with. Them so or that defensive coordinator, says,
(53:48):
UH i see those, guys, man they're a pass. Thread
So i'm gonna put my Nickel sam out, there which
is more of A dB type of, sambacker more of
a cover. Guy then you, Say, okay that's what you're gonna. Do,
Great i'm gonna motion my tight end back in the
backfield And i'm gonna run the. Ball i'm gonna force
(54:08):
that Nickel sam to support the. Run and he may
do it for a player or, two but he ain't
gonna stick his face in the fan over and over
and over. Again and we're gonna wear him down running the.
Football and so that's the mismatch with tight. Ends and
you watch these guys in THE nfl and and these
guys that are, hybrids The Jordan leggots of the, world
(54:30):
The Dwayne allen's of the. World, man that's where you're
that's where you can create the Miss it's the game
within the.
Speaker 2 (54:37):
Game.
Speaker 5 (54:37):
Law.
Speaker 2 (54:38):
Yeah it's fascinating to watch how that position over the
years has really, transformed because even some guys that are
playing that spot now are larger bodied former high school wide,
receivers you know WHAT i, Mean like you're kind of
seeing that, Too AND i Think Bettencourt clympse is a
prime example of. That you, know when you're out there
looking for a tight, end what did you? Prioritize did
(55:02):
you prioritize their ability to catch the ball or were
you looking for that guy that could really affect and
influence the run. GAME i, MEAN i know you won't,
both but what did you prefer? Personally?
Speaker 5 (55:13):
Yeah you know, So and you're. RIGHT i, mean you,
know he had a, great great game this past, weekend
AND i think you're. RIGHT i think he's he reminds
you of some of those great tid ends that we've.
Had And i'll give you a true recruiting story with
how he Got Jordan leggett and. Uh And SO i
(55:34):
remember going Into Fort Walton High school And fort Wall
beach AND i was in there and they had this
bigger receiver that was had only one offer and it
Was South. Florida and SO i go in And i'm
talking to the high school coach AND i, said tell
me about this. Guy and so we get to talking
(55:56):
and he, said, well, coach here's the. Deal he's got
one offer At South, florida and here's this. Problem he's
too big and not fast enough to play wide. Receiver
that's Why florida doesn't want. Him he's not big enough
and not strong enough to be a true on the
(56:19):
line tight, end and that's Why george doesn't want. Him
AND i, said, well that's exactly who we want At
clinton BECAUSE i can make him a hybrid. Guy and
so that's how we Got Jordan. Leggett it's taking those
guys like that that maybe you're too big now fast
(56:40):
enough to play true wide, receiver but have wide receiver
skills and, attributes but not thick enough and big enough
to be a true on the line quote unquote hammerhead
tight end where he's you, know it's all he can
do is run a little small routes and then he's
a great. BLOCKER i, said a, man that's signed me.
Up that's WHO i. Want and that's how we Got.
(57:01):
Jordangott so that's WHAT i look for into creating that
hybrid type of.
Speaker 2 (57:06):
Guy so you kind of segue right into my next
question because it was about recruiting and really more, specifically
like in that, instance the kid gets on your radar
because you're talking to the high school coach and you're
asking about this particular. Player but when do you, know
how do most kids end up getting on your radar
as a? Coach maybe even for some of our listeners
(57:27):
who have high school you, know football players in their.
FAMILY i, mean what's the best, way in your, opinion
to kind of get?
Speaker 5 (57:33):
Recognized, yeah, Yeah And i've had to. Do i've done
several talks on, this And i've had a lot of
high schools call me and talk to me about. It
and WHAT i would say is, this we're in a
time and error of college football that it's harder and
harder to get a high school player. Recruited AND i
(57:56):
know we got some parents out there that listen that
they got sons that are, playing and you, know they
want to get them, recruited and how does that? Happen
and it's it's. Hard it's it's extremely. Hard and here's.
Why because the timeline for college coaches to get a
(58:18):
program flipped is gets, fewer gets, lesser and lesser of
time they. Get And i'm a prime. EXAMPLE i got
twenty two months At, arkansas right and the portal wasn't
even vault at that. Time and so what these college
coaches are doing now is, Going, okay DO i go
after a high school kid that's you, know maybe three
(58:41):
years ago would have been a maybe a power five,
kid maybe not a power, four but a power, FIVE
a mid major conference. Guy, well three or four years
ago he might have been, that but now he's might
have dropped a little. Lower and it's nothing wrong with.
That you're fun is. Done it's the fact of the
(59:02):
landscape of the. Game these college coaches are, GOING i
got to go after a kid that has at least
been in a weight, program at least been away from.
Home he's he's been somewhat of a nutrition, program he's
played them maybe a little bit of college football. Already
that gives me my best chance to win. IT i
don't have time to take and develop a high school
(59:23):
kid and three years later see him. Succeed and SO
i know parents don't want me to say. THAT i
know they don't want to hear. That and not not,
all not all programs are that. Way you, Know clyson
is still, heavily heavily recruiting high school, kids and that's,
great but you, know if you're a one of the top.
(59:43):
Guys if you're a four, star five star, guy look
you can do whatever you want. Do you're gonna get
recruited out of high. School but if those three star,
guys two star guys that that are falling and so
to get, recognized the best thing you got to do
is is the one you, know during the summer go to.
Camps and when you go to, camps you got to
(01:00:05):
be careful going to mega camps because what happens is
you got thousands of kids in a camp and your
son only gets two. Reps and so that's one thing
you got to figure out the right camps to go
to get his name out. There the second thing you
need to do is about every three weeks during a
high school, season create a highlight. Film and for the
(01:00:28):
parents that are, LISTENING i want to preface this by,
saying college coaches don't have time to watch this five
minute highlight, film and they, don't so you better collapse
a highlight film until about a minute, mix maybe a minute.
Thirty put his best plays, one, two, three because all
(01:00:50):
you're trying to do is garner that coaches attention or
garner somebody's attention in the building to want to watch.
More and that's. It if you put five minutes together
and you just put you, know every catch a five
yard stop and he catches it and falls down or gets. Tackled,
look they're gonna they're gonna lose. Interest they gotta move.
(01:01:12):
On they got they got thirty and forty of. These you,
know these recruiting departments are gonna watch every. Day so
find the best thing and put them. First make it
a minute and half at the, most take a recruiting.
Visit and at the end of the, day when your
son he says he's not getting the offers that he,
needs he's. Not he's he's only getting the lower level.
Offers it goes against EVERYTHING i totally believe because this
(01:01:36):
isn't the WAY i was raised with. It but what's
happening is is maybe because of the landscape of college football,
now if that's your son's, offered go to that, school
be the best player on that, team be the best
player in the. Conference because you can look around the
country and see what is ninety percent of all college
is gonna. Do they're gonna take kids at transfer kids
(01:01:58):
and go and be that's for a guy and, again
that's that's in a three and four Minute nutsdale, here
probably a little bit more information you wanted me to,
share but that's that's where we're at right.
Speaker 2 (01:02:10):
Now All, Right well a quick. Break we'll come back
with more with Coach Chad morris right here On Clemson
Sports talk On Fox Sports radio fourteen hundred and on
The iHeart radio app rocking and rolling along with y'all On,
Wednesday Chad morris on the guest. Line, coach you were
talking about, players you, know maybe taking opportunities at smaller
schools in this day and age where the portal exists
(01:02:31):
and they can transfer their way. UP i, MEAN i
think that's a perfect, example and it's similar to the
way some students have to go about just you, know regular,
college right like go to the local smaller, school you
do good, there and then that transcript is a little
bit easier to get in the door than it was
maybe coming out of your high school because you've proved
yourself kind of at the collegiate. Level but now you
(01:02:52):
can do that with football and sports as. Well talking about,
RECRUITING i do want to stay with. You we Got
Chad morris here on the line for just a few more.
Minutes Deshaun watson uh talk to us about his, recruitment,
like how did he get on your radar the first
time that you saw? Him when did you, Go holy,
moly this kid's gonna be. Fantastic is it a freshman
year or people telling you about this? Guy you know
(01:03:14):
when you first arrived At. Clemson how did you find
out About Deshaun?
Speaker 9 (01:03:18):
Watson, well so WE i just goten, there hadn't been there,
long AND i had a d V d on my,
desk and that d V d was was Was deshaun
his freshman.
Speaker 5 (01:03:29):
Year AND i Remember brad telling, me, hey got a
few DVDs i've laid on your. Desk that's back in
the day when you s d right right is now?
Right but he's, like, hey when you get, time watch these.
Guys so sure, enough you, KNOW i had Ty shawn
(01:03:50):
died and which Ty shawan was the very first offer
THAT i, had AND i Had, deshaun AND I i
remember putting THE dvd in and Because paula was still
back In, TULSA i was basically up the office all
hours of the. Night SO i JUST i didn't nothing to,
do BUT i was. MAN i was diving into, recruiting
and and and, there AND i told this. STORY i
(01:04:14):
guess back to a couple of days ago to a
coach and he was asking me a question About DeShawn
AND i, SAID i, said his first three, clips it's
what got my. Interest number, one he did the very
first clip Of DeShawn THAT i, saw with him throwing
the ball down the field And i'm, like, wow you,
know the ball really jumps out of his. Hand i'm.
(01:04:35):
Intrigued the second clip was he got flushed out of
the pocket and he extended to play with his feet
and he kept his eyes down the, field And i'm, like,
man for a freshman to do, this this is really.
Good and then the third step was is he lost
out about ten yards down the. Field And i'm, Like,
(01:04:57):
okay if a freshman can carry a fake out ten
yards down the, field this kid's really got something to.
Me and SO i picked up the. PHONE i started
a conversation with Coach, miller and that recruiting process just
took off at that. Point but, yeah it wasn't, long
AND i, Realized, okay this kid's really gonna be. Good
(01:05:21):
and THEN i spent my WHOLE i felt like my
Whole clemton career Recruiting deshaun watching even when nobody was
recruiting a, KID i was down there watching me and
my whole, Family paul And Mackenzie. CHANDLER i, Mean i'd
feed my family qt corn. Dogs they still give me
a hard time on. This i'm, like, hey we're running
late To deshawn's. Game this corn dogs A qt, tonight fell,
(01:05:44):
us but we're gonna make sure we're there to Watch.
DeShawn and so every time we stopped at A, qt
they all look at the corn dogs And i'm, like,
hey look just as the ones on the back, roller
they're more done than the ones on the front. ROW
i got to get this kid signed To. Climpson and
so we we were there Watching deshaun play basketball when nobody.
(01:06:05):
Was and then the very next, YEAR i go. Back
i'm taking my family back. Again and who's there now
There's Mike bobo and all eight of his kids up
there Watching. DeShawn i'm, like, no, no, no, no time. Out
this ain't gonna work like. THIS i was here first
and so And bobo AND i still laugh about.
Speaker 2 (01:06:24):
That uh that's. Outstanding and so to give some insight
into it, obviously you, know you Leave clemson After deshaun's freshman.
Year but at that, point just for, listeners did you
know about This Trevor lawrence guy already at that? Point
like was he a name that people would have been
talking about that early in his career as? Well?
Speaker 5 (01:06:45):
Yeah, yeah you, know So trevor came to, camp and
they came to camp as a young, kid and so
he was. There, yeah obviously we knew he was gonna
Be he's gonna be. Good, now we didn't, realize you,
know his growth and he was still you, know like
seventh or eighth grade when he was coming to. Camp,
yeah and so but, YEAH I i was aware of.
(01:07:05):
Him but but WHAT i think it did IS i
think when we went Into georgia and we got To,
SHAWN i think that opened the door For. Trevor And
i've talked To Jeff scott about, this to Talk. TONY i,
mean you, know if we don't get To, shawn it
would have been interesting to see if we'd have Got,
(01:07:26):
trevor you, Know and so how everything kind of parlayed
into that and opened that door up and showed, hey
look you CAN i mean when you look at we
Were that was a key gift for us to get
To shawn away from away from THAT g on the
side of the. HELMET i, mean, heck he was From.
Gainesville he had a red, helmet and that red helmet
(01:07:47):
had A g on the side of, IT i, mean
and everybody was trying to get after his mom and From,
georgia and so for us to be able to pull
him away from, THAT i think that that that opened
up may your door for.
Speaker 2 (01:08:00):
Us Coach Chad, morris, coach have a great, week enjoy
the week off for The Virginia, cavaliers and we definitely
look forward to talk it to you Next.
Speaker 5 (01:08:08):
Wednesday Oh, man always great to catch. Up love My clemson,
fans and, uh you, know, man go Go. Tigers it's
gonna be another great week And i'm glad to see
him get back in the win. Column and, man just
just just keep putting. Friend, Uh i'm, excited and uh
look forward to an open. WEEK i don't know IF
i need the open week more than The Virginia cavaliers
(01:08:31):
or or or do they need it more than. ME
i don't, know but, listen we're gonna enjoy it And
i'm gonna try to get my deer feeders filled up
with corn and get all macaws situated and get ready
for the stretch.
Speaker 2 (01:08:42):
Run Chad, morris, coach have a great. Week thank you.
Man those conversations With Coach, MORRIS i love it so,
insightful so thinking about Like Trevor lawrence At clemson's camp
when he's just a kid in seventh grade or. Whatever,
yeah that's pretty. Awesome and to hear the CAR i
(01:09:07):
THINK i Think coach might have named this episode of the.
Show he didn't know he did. IT i think it's
going to be Corn dogs at THE, qt Corn dogs
at THE, qt taking the family to Watch Deshaun watson
back in the. Day and then it't feel. OLD i
was thinking, it and then he brought it up to
it hasn't been all that, long, right like fourteen years or.
(01:09:30):
Whatever fifteen years and you're talking about THE. Dvd he's
put these DVDs on my. Desk, yeah that's also that's
also sort of a telling change in the, times, Right
and imagine how difficult it was back then when you're
getting scouted BY. Dvd holy, Smokes all, right quick, break
(01:09:52):
we'll come back with more here on A wednesday Afternoon
Lowton swan back with, You Clemson Sports talk three four
five zero zero eighty. Six again That Chad morris before the.
Break you guys have really embraced that. SEGMENT i appreciate.
It textas if you have questions for Coach, morris use
that text, line all, right if you have questions for
(01:10:12):
coach and we'll try to work him. In all, right let's.
See Kay klubnick met with the media earlier. Today easily
off of his best performance of the. SEASON i, mean
twenty two of twenty four very. Efficient matter of, FACT
(01:10:37):
i mean he almost threw an an. Interception you might
recall there was a little scrum in the end zone that.
BALL i probably would have called that an interception quite.
Frankly BUT i think the ruling on the field was,
Incomplete AND i, mean you know how you know how
(01:11:01):
college football is these. Days if the ruling is incomplete
and you you go to replay and there's not obvious
evidence to the, contrary the ruling on the field is.
UPHELD i think it's the. PHRASING i don't think it stands.
(01:11:22):
ANYMORE i think it's the ruling on the field is.
Upheld But Kay clubnick definitely snapped back into the mold
of what people thought he would be coming into the
season twenty to twenty four for one hundred and fifty
four yards with four touchdowns through the. Air we'll hear
(01:11:45):
something From Kay clubnick. Again i've put a lot of
that On North, carolina AND i actually saw something on
social media earlier today that made me kind of go
hm About North. Carolina A Yahoo sport report saying parents
OF usc players weighed in on the quote toxic nature
Of Bill belichick's football. Program this parent, speaking a current
(01:12:13):
players parent, SPEAKING i guess in a condition of, anonymity
saying it's all starting at the top and the boys
are being. AFFECTED i don't fought the, PLAYERS i fought
the leadership that created this toxic. Environment so how many
(01:12:34):
of you? Think how many of you Think Bill belichick
will be back next? YEAR i bet some of you
think he'll be. Gone and, honestly based off of the
effort that we, saw you, know the way that they
played Against clemson and the support that the fans gave
(01:12:54):
them once they were getting, Obliterated, YEAH i could see
that being a short lived relationship for. Sure Here's kate
Club nick talking about those. Comments That Dabbo sweeney made
about you, know the team being you, know Like. BATMAN
i think.
Speaker 8 (01:13:11):
It was a different, comic, uh one of the comics
over the. YEARS i don't think it was From Dark Knight,
rises but, yeah, yeah it. Was it was a good
story THAT i think it. Was, uh it's very, relatable you.
KNOW i think it was pretty similar to, us and
it was Cool.
Speaker 2 (01:13:26):
Kate club and it was asked to kind of further
explain how Coach wheney's comments maybe resonated with him in
terms of kind of getting back on. Track, yeah IT'S
i think it's.
Speaker 8 (01:13:40):
GREAT i think, that you, know for me and it really.
EVERYBODY i think we needed that and just a reminder
of who we are and the players we are and
the team that we can. Be AND i think it was.
Great you, know, loss loss does, things and it it
grinds you up and shines you. Up AND i think
it's going to contain to shine us up and we
can contain to be molded by this and continue.
Speaker 6 (01:14:01):
To be our best.
Speaker 8 (01:14:01):
Selves but it was. Great you, know it's a good
reminder of just to WHO i am and who we
are as players and.
Speaker 2 (01:14:06):
Individuals That's Kay. Club Nick clemson quarterback meeting with the
media earlier, today he was also asked about the fact
that he's the second quarterback ever to have thrown four
touchdowns in a half against A Bill belichick coach.
Speaker 8 (01:14:20):
Team it's, COOL i, mean, Honestly i'm More i'm more
excited about.
Speaker 5 (01:14:25):
Just getting to.
Speaker 8 (01:14:25):
Win you, know you, know it's, cool but that was
eleven guys making plays and doing our. Jobs so definitely
cool stat to look back. On But i'm really excited
just by the win and getting a win against you,
know a good team and a great a great head
coach like, Him.
Speaker 2 (01:14:38):
So, kay Club. Nick he also talked about the first
touchdown pass they came off of lateral To Antonio, williams
who then threw the deep ball and was tracked down
to take into the house by wide RECEIVER. Tj moore
seventy five yards scoring, play and just how that play
(01:15:00):
maybe impacted or set the tone for the rest of the.
Game it's.
Speaker 8 (01:15:04):
BIG i think we need a spark early and that's
what we, did and tone, delivered you, know a dime
that was that was really cool to.
Speaker 6 (01:15:12):
See so it was it was.
Speaker 8 (01:15:14):
GREAT i think it was really good for really the whole,
team just to kind of start with a spark and
kind of let up the whole sideline and and silence
the rest of the. Stadium so it was really cool
to start and you, know hopefully it to just be
a spark for the rest of the. Season you, know
we've talked about having kind of a restart in a
in a fresh slate. Almost that's kind of our mentality,
of you, know a fresh, start so.
Speaker 6 (01:15:37):
Continue.
Speaker 8 (01:15:37):
That hopefully this game will spark the rest of the.
Speaker 2 (01:15:39):
Season That's clemson quarterback K. Club, well we've talked About
Christian bettencore quite a bit. Here Betten core talked About
Cad Here's. Kate he was asked About bettencore all.
Speaker 8 (01:15:50):
That, YEAH i, mean since he's been, here he's probably
been one of the hardest working guys that we've. Had it's,
like after every single, practice he's going the weight room
getting extra, lifts extra. Reps you, know after we you,
know he's back up in the film room watching, film
watching with. Coaches you, know he's he's an effort guy and,
that and it was it was really cool to see
(01:16:11):
him get rewarded for. That and he's he's just getting.
Started he's going to have a heck of a career
here and he's gonna be a really really good player for,
us and just really really proud of. Him you, know
he's we got a really good room and they they
all build off each other and it's it's really cool to.
Speaker 2 (01:16:26):
See so That's Kay clubnick talking About Betton core final.
Thing he was asked About Betton core's effort and how
that maybe encourages the, Team so for, Sure, YEAH.
Speaker 8 (01:16:37):
I mean it's definitely infectious and you, know you look
at somebody maybe maybe doing a little a little extra,
more and you're it's a reminder to, Yourself, hey maybe
maybe AM i not doing? Enough AND i think that
sometimes it does that for guys around the team and just,
pushes you, know, competitiveness pushes other guys to be the
best that they can, be AND i think he is
a huge part of.
Speaker 2 (01:16:56):
That so there you. Go that's some time With Kay. Clubnick.
Again we'll have a lot of that on our social,
account on our. Website certainly articles to, come AS i
think eight players met with the media this. Week all,
right well a quick. Break we'll come back and put
a bow on The wednesday edition of the Show The
shakespeare South land again thanking To Chad morris for joining.
Us don't forget, tomorrow Legendary clemson Sid Tim burray joins
(01:17:19):
the program and potentially a surprise guest to nour number.
One we'll see if we can get it worked out all,
Right well a quick, break will come back and wrap
up the show right after. This what have you done
for me?
Speaker 6 (01:17:31):
Lately it's a fair. Question just don't lose sight of
the bigger. Picture don't forget. History lucky for us At,
clemson the answer to the questions what have you done
for me? Lately and what have you? Done always are the.
Same we win.
Speaker 2 (01:18:42):
Final segment on A wednesday, Afternoon Lawton swan hanging out
with you, again the show that shakes of South, land you,
know typically on A, wednesday this is when we kind
of begin to turn the page a little bit and
we didn't, talk but we didn't talk too much about
That North carolina game really mostly in my opinion again
BECAUSE i think a lot of the issues and the
(01:19:05):
things That clemson could take advantage of came From North.
Carolina but, nonetheless Good win and you just try to
stack a couple of wins in a row and see
where it gets. You they'll go up To Boston. College
AS i mentioned earlier four this weekend's. Matchup and there
(01:19:26):
are some other really good games out. THERE i, Mean
missouri Hosting, alabama fourteenth Ranked missouri, Undefeated alabama number eight
in the, country may be playing as good as. Anybody,
obviously a disappointing loss for them now looking back at
it Against Florida, state who's three and two five and
Oh Ohio state taking On illinois this. Weekend The Fighting
(01:19:47):
lion AND i are seventeenth in the. Country they're five and.
One we Mentioned oklahoma Print vinables and that. Squad they're
undefeated five and oh Facing texas neutral site game at
The Cotton. Bowl texas a shocking three and, two much Like,
clemson just a surprise with you, know the way things
have started for both of those. Teams Notre dame obviously
(01:20:09):
has a couple of losses as, well But Notre dame
is intriguing because they don't have a conference, championship AND
i guess it could come down to like a data
point at some point down the. Line but, ANYWAY i,
mean all you can do is just keep Out LIKE i,
say you could just go out there and keep swinging
get your at bats and try to do as much
(01:20:30):
as you can when you get that. Opportunity speaking of at,
bats Major League baseball obviously in the. Playoffs and we
got a text message yesterday. Morning maybe let's see yesterday Was,
tuesday Maybe monday, NIGHT i can't. Remember my sister and
her husband were going up To New. York they're gonna
(01:20:51):
fly up and watch The yankees and The Blue. Jays
my brother in law has been all in with The
yankees for. Years he's he's a Big yankee. Guy and
they got THE Mlb Sunday ticket OR mlb pat whatever
the thing is where you can watch all the games
at some, point maybe this, year last. Year they got
it and they've enjoyed. It and now my sister's gotten into.
(01:21:14):
It she. Knows like WHEN i went to see, her you,
know she's telling me all about the, Rotation i'm, like
what what are you talking? About how do you know about?
BASEBALL i don't even follow. Baseball but they flew up
and went To game three last. NIGHT i don't really
love the way these series are set. UP i, know
(01:21:36):
the expanded opening round this is kind of what you
get a five game, series but it was an elimination
game for The. Yankees they got down six to, one
they come back and win nine to. Six Aaron judge
had the what was it game tying home run rescuing The,
yankees and he even said the ghosts helped him out
(01:21:56):
of that ball not only state, fair but hit the
fair foul. Pole and The yankees stay. Alive they'll play
tonight seven oh eight against The Blue. Jays but it
was a. Moment i'm sure my sister and her husband
will never forget being at that. Game the largest comeback
(01:22:16):
In yankees baseball history in an elimination. Game and, look
if they win. Tonight baseball's funny like. This if The
yankees win, tonight all bets are off like a one game. Series.
ESSENTIALLY i don't care where you're playing. It it only
(01:22:40):
takes a mistake or two from the pitcher and you're
in deep. TROUBLE i think all, four all four divisional
series take place. TODAY i know The mariners and The
tigers are underway. NOW i think coming up at are
just starting at five oh, eight The cubs and The.
(01:23:02):
Brewers The, mariners by the, way lead their series two
games to. One The brewers lead The cubs two games to.
None so a huge game for The cubs. Today my
Buddy josh is a Big cubs. FAN i CAN i
can root for The. CUBS i, MEAN i can root
for The, Cubs, yankees Blue jays tonight at seven oh
(01:23:29):
eight on THE fs, one and then The dodgers And
phillies tonight at nine oh. Eight so what three oh,
eight five oh, eight seven oh eight and nine oh,
eight all those baseball games getting going tonight as we
head towards the championship. Series we'll see how it all shakes.
Out you gotta love this time of the year if
(01:23:50):
you're a baseball. FAN i try not to watch a
single pitch during the regular. Season it's kind of been
a bit a, stick you, know for me here on
the BUT i really. DO i try to avoid. It
like IF i see a game on, Live, NOPE i
don't even look turn the. CHANNEL i like for my
thing to BE i only Watch Major League baseball when
(01:24:10):
the games really. Count there are too many games in.
Baseball people complain about THE. Nba that's, fine and you
could argue that there are too few in the sports
that we talk about the most college football in THE,
nfl not not too. Few from the players, standpoint too
few from the fans, Standpoint but Major League, baseball that's
way too many, games way too many, games and As
(01:24:33):
i've noted for, years they're way too. Long, anyhow we
gotta get out. Here, look we'll be back tomorrow On.
Thursday until, then as, always you'll take care now and Go.
Tigers
