seven three two drip. That's METS Plumbing mets Plumbing dot com.
And Buddy, does it feel good to be back in
the saddle hanging out with you on a Friday afternoon
(01:52):
after being away for a few days? Oh yeah, there
you go. Guess who's back back again? Swan, he's back,
Tell a friend feeling better one hundred percent, let's go.
I mean Tuesday was rough. Tuesday was rough. I appreciate
(02:16):
you granting me a little leeway on Tuesday. Wednesday I
was making the bounce back. Thursday still had a little cough,
not great. Could have probably probably could have fought through
on Thursday, but decided we take one more, make sure
(02:40):
we were one hundred percent, and we are. And thank
you for being a part of the program each and
every afternoon. Man, so much fun. Golly, it seems like
a week ago Clempson Notre Dame twelve game series was announced.
That was the last big topic I talked with you
about ACC tournament softball underway, and man, did you guys
(03:05):
tune in on Let's see my days are? That is
the one thing about being absent, the one thing about
being away from the show for a few days. It's
kind of like when baseball shifts a series on you. Uh,
it is a little bit confusing about like what day
things happened on. But Clemson softball yesterday evening against Virginia, Man,
(03:38):
what an absolute bomb that was hit out of the ballpark,
grand slammed by Taylor Pipkins was the difference in a
tight ball game in the ACC Championship quarterfinals, seven to
four the final score yesterday evening. Here's the call on
(03:59):
the ACC. Now work, Clemson down four to three at
the time bottom of the sixth.
Speaker 2 (04:06):
Pipkins Sands run long, deep and gone off the white hole.
Speaker 3 (04:14):
A grand slam for the freshman.
Speaker 1 (04:25):
Pipkins. She'sh more like Popkins. Well, she popped that ball
out of the ballpark. That was enough for the Tigers
to win seven to four yesterday. Today they got going
around noon against Virginia Tech, and the Tigers were getting hammered.
(04:53):
I mean they were getting beat down at one point
in the game. Or Virginia Tech went up five to
one in the fourth. Virginia Tech expanded their lead to
nine to four heading into the bottom of the sixth inning,
and the Tigers came in and turned it on. They
(05:17):
got the bases loaded and they just kept scoring. They
tied the game at nine, they took a ten to
nine lead, and then into the top of the seventh
Clemson scratched and clawed. An eight run sixth inning leads
to a ten to nine advantage and the Tigers will advance.
(05:44):
What an unbelievable turn of events up in Massachusetts, weird
place to be playing the game. Not to mention it
was rainy and nasty, but the Tigers would a never
say die mentality. Eight runs in the sixth inning and
(06:04):
Clemson will advance in the ACC Tournament after just an
unbelievable turn of events in the bottom of the sixth inning.
I mean, they were absolutely on the ropes. You could
see on the face of the girls. They just could
not believe. I mean, there was so much There was
(06:27):
a lot of joy, a ton of passion, but a
lot of oh my goodness, what just happened? And look,
I don't know what's going to happen this weekend with
Clemson baseball. Obviously, the next two weekends against Duke and
Pitt are huge for this Clemson baseball team. But that
(06:48):
type of fight is what you've seen from Clemson baseball
throughout the year. Good to see it on the softball
diamond for the Clemon and Tigers in the ACC Softball
Semifinal as they advance to the championship game with the
ten to nine victory. First we'll hear the final call
(07:12):
of the game, and then we'll hear from Clemson's Matty
Moore after the win.
Speaker 3 (07:20):
In the air playable.
Speaker 1 (07:23):
And cut.
Speaker 2 (07:27):
To end one of the wildest games you'd never want
a witness, and the Clemson Tigers, they were down nine
to two going into the bottom of the sixth inning,
put up an eighth spot and they advanced to their
third ACC Championship game.
Speaker 4 (07:48):
It looked as though Virginia Tech was in control of
this one heading down the stretch, but with that huge
eight run bottom of the six, Clemson able to advance
to the final game tomorrow against Florida State.
Speaker 1 (08:03):
So you heard that the Tigers will take on the
number one seed in the Atlantic Coast Conference, the Florida
State Seminoles. Clemson returns to the ACC Championship game. They
were there in twenty twenty one and twenty twenty two. Again,
it is still a baseball excuse me, a softball program
in its infancy, but a softball program that is continuing
(08:25):
to play at a very high level. And after the
start they had this season, as we've talked about well
documented here, they are now championship bound. The Cardiac Clemson Tigers,
if you will, making their way to the ACC Championship
Game tomorrow. You heard them talking about the weather. We'll
see what it looks like in terms of start time
and how all that will shake out. It was nasty
(08:47):
weather up in Boston today. But after the game Maddie
Moore spoke with the media or with the broad The
broadcast crew on the ACC network.
Speaker 2 (09:01):
Joins us again, Hey Maddie, we just had a replay
of you soon after the game ended. I know you
must be freezing. And what have you ever played in
a game.
Speaker 3 (09:12):
Like this before?
Speaker 5 (09:13):
I mean, just like the occasional druzzld that ended in
five minutes, but no, nothing like this, not at all.
Speaker 4 (09:18):
Well, and so when you're heading into the bottom of
the sixth inning down by a ton, what's the conversation
in the dugout?
Speaker 5 (09:27):
You know, it's why not us? What do we have
to lose at this point? Just go in there, be confident,
have fun, and swing at good.
Speaker 4 (09:34):
Pitches well, and good pitches were hard to come by.
You guys showed great discipline at the plate. I'm sorry
for leaving you out there in the colds. We're gonna yeah,
when you win, it doesn't feel good bad warm Now, well,
and you talk about how defense is something you actually
like more than offense today. Defensively, there were some miscues
out there in the field. Were what was the conversation
(09:54):
between your teammates with all of those errors.
Speaker 5 (09:57):
Just to slow down, play the game, trying to make
the throw as short as possible.
Speaker 3 (10:01):
Gets as close to your target as you.
Speaker 5 (10:03):
Can, keep your feet moving, try to get the best
grip on the ball, and you know, just stay confidence,
stay oup, just keep going.
Speaker 2 (10:11):
And you got Florida State the top seed tomorrow. Haven't
played them this year. That should be a lot of fun.
Speaker 3 (10:15):
Yeah, I'm super excited. I can't wait.
Speaker 2 (10:17):
Okay, go get a coke, Go get warm, go get dry.
Thank you, Maddie, Go Tigers. Maddie Moore and the Tigers.
And an improbable comeback and eight runs, six nine runs,
eleven hits, four errors for Virginia Tech, ten runs, seven hits,
five errors for.
Speaker 1 (10:35):
Clemson, and so the Tigers will advance again two thirty
the scheduled start time tomorrow, I guess, depending on the weather.
But softball moving on to the championship game at the
Atlantic Coast Conference tournament up in Boston College. Weird weird
setting up there, given the weather and the rain. Let's
(10:57):
see what was the temperature. That's a good that's a
good question, because I mean Maddie More was shivering forty
eight degrees in rainy, happy softball weather everyone, But again, congratulations,
you know John Ripman Man, what a jam up job
(11:21):
he's done. And again, it was a incredible kind of
turn of events for Clemson in the ACC in the
their opening game against Virginia and then what a turn
in this matchup against Virginia Tech. Now Florida State, however,
is gonna be a tough task for sure. The Florida
(11:44):
State Seminoles are legitimately considered one of the only teams
that people believe might be able to dethrone the Oklahoma Sooners,
who are looking for their fifth mind you national championship
in a row. And remember Clempson had Oklahoma on the
ropes a couple of years ago in Game two at Oklahoma,
(12:09):
only to have the Sooners I think, score what two
runs in the seventh to tie it and then win
the game in extra innings. Certainly a frustrating, a frustrating
moment for the Clemson Tigers softball team, but they'll get
a shot at Florida State. The Seminoles defeated Duke in
(12:32):
the ACC semi finals to advance to the championship game.
Duke no slouch thirty eight and fifteen, sixteen to eight
in the league, but Florida State with the win now
forty six and eight, and they will face off with
Clemson tomorrow. The Seminoles again one of the most solid
(12:57):
softball programs in women's softball, and Clemson trying to continue
to hang right there at the top of the ACC
with the Dukes with the Florida States and certainly want
to be considered nationally as one of the best programs
in America. But what an incredible day, really an incredible
(13:18):
I don't know what eighteen hours or so up in Massachusetts.
I guess that's in what Brighton, Massachusetts maybe is where
that's being hosted. But it's the Clemson Tigers making a
heck of a storyline there over the past couple of days.
In women's softball or I guess just softball, although you
(13:39):
know what I mean, I do sometimes put that qualifier
that's women's softball. I would not be against men's softball
collegiately either. You know, men's softball doesn't do the fast
pitch version. It's sort of that underhand toss like you
play in when you play church league softball, and I
(14:02):
think that's the same even for the really the professional
softball players, Like I don't think it's fast pitch. Many
of you may remember back in the day, there was
a wrestler named Sid Vicious. He had several other names,
(14:24):
I think Sid Justice at one point, but Sid Vicious
was a notorious softball player, and when it was softball
season a lot of times he would he would take
(14:44):
off from wrestling six foot nine love softball. Some of
those storylines around him and softball are well documented. I think,
you know, looking at his career, he wasn't much of
a talker, wasn't much of a mic guy personality wise.
(15:08):
But I do think that if Sid Vicious had probably
been more focused on wrestling and less focused on his
genuine love for professional softball not taking time away, he
(15:34):
probably has a much more impressive wrestling career. I don't
know that it would have been on the lines of
say The Undertaker or anything like that, but I mean,
he had the size and the physique, but he just
he didn't quite have the mic skills and the personality
that you have to have. He needed a you know
(15:56):
he needed a manager, He needed somebody to to be
there and do the talking. And that's okay. I mean
there have been plenty of guys. I mean, even the Undertaker,
prior to really growing as a wrestler with a microphone,
always had Paul Bearer or there was somebody who was
(16:16):
sort of the voice for his storyline. But as he
got better at that, you know, Vince McMahon and the
WWE allowed him to spend more time talking on the
mic and it became a lot more than just saying
rest in peace or whatever. But yes, Sid Vicious was
(16:38):
a guy that played a lot of softball, professional softball.
And I feel like I gotta throw this in the
Google machine. Was men's softball ever a Olympic sport? This
says it wasn't. Women's softball was from nineteen ninety six
(17:02):
to two thousand and eight, but there's never been men's
softball as an Olympic sport. Okay, so that's good to know.
I do wonder where you could watch those those championships
though it'd be interesting. I mean, I don't know how
big the fields are. I don't know how far you
(17:23):
can hit the softball. I've seen some dudes playing church
league softball that could absolutely mash a softball a mile.
I mean, you know some of these fields at churches
in the Low Country where I would have played some
men's softball at some point along my life, there wasn't
a fence. You just hit it and run. You just
(17:46):
went cam Canerella on that infield, I mean, in that
inside the ballpark home run, except there was no fence.
There was no fence. That ball just kept rolling into
the cornfield, into the soybeans wherever. Like I'm trying to
hit a relay man and he's he's in the he's
(18:09):
in center field. That's how far out some of those
guys could hit a softball back in the day. Anyhow.
Congratulations to the Clemson Tigers. Congratulations to John Ripman as
the Tigers advanced to the ACC Championship game with an
(18:30):
improbable come from behind victory against Virginia Tech. Just a
huge inning for Clemson in the bottom of the sixth.
Again they trailed one nothing after two innings. They tied
the game up in the bottom of the third, then
went down five to one in the fourth. Scratched a
(18:51):
run back in the bottom of the second to make
it five to two, then gave up four runs in
the top of the sixth inning to trailed nine to two,
only to have an eight run bottom of the sixth
inning to take a ten to nine advantage into the
final frame and they would close it out. And unbelievable
(19:11):
turn of events for the Tigers against the third seeded
Virginia Tech Hokies. Brooke mccubbing gets the win. She's now
fifteen to five on the season. Emma Limbley for the
Hokies took the loss. She's seventeen and seven. But what
a turn there in the bottom of the sixth inning
(19:32):
for the Clemson Tigers as they advanced to the a
SEC Championship game. Congratulations to John Ripman. We're trying to
play some of Ripman's aud yo from the ACC Network
for you as well to get his thoughts on the
game coming up. Maybe in the bottom half of our
number one. All right, with a quick break, will come
back and we'll reset some of what's been going on
(19:53):
with me over the past few days as I've been
bouncing back from being a little bit under the weather.
Stay with us, rocking and rolling along with you on
a Friday afternoon Clemson Sports So don't forget about our
Twitter account at Clemson Sports, our website, our TikTok, our Instagram.
As I like to say, we are where you are.
(20:15):
And again one of the things that you know, the
summer is upawn the teachers of the world. This is
Teacher Appreciation Week, by the way, special thanks to all
of the teachers out there in the job that they do.
I know this morning, by virtue of being a teacher,
(20:37):
I got to stop buy a business I've been trying
to partner with for a while, Water Burger. Their CEO
is a Clemson guy. I gotta get in touch with
this guy. Their colors are orange. Their colors are orange.
I say that right, Is that my country tone? Orange?
Their colors are orange orange? I think I said a
minute ago. Either way, I got to get in touch
with those guys. But I went by there and teachers.
(21:00):
I think today was the last day, but before nine am,
I got something called a breakfast on a bun. It
was really good. Sausage egg on a bun. Looked a
lot like a Hamburger, tasted a lot like breakfast delicious.
Really liked it. Had SIPs coffee today. You know, SIPs
is one of our sponsors for River Bluff Soccer, which
(21:24):
more on that in a minute. Season's over. Ah gut
punched in Dorman. Although a cool day for me on
I guess Wednesday, because I did get to see one
of my buddies from high school. But either way, yeah,
thank you to all the teachers out there. Thank you
to all the the families of teachers, your support for
(21:47):
them and everything that you know they mean to our
communities and our state. But I went and had some
SIPs coffee today because they were the school. Tried to
take advantage as much as I can on that front.
But Man soccer season came to a conclusion up at Dorman,
(22:09):
first round of the playoffs. River Bluff was the nine seed,
Dorman was the eight, and we got a late first
half goal. Matter of fact, up at Dormant kind of weird.
They stopped the clock at five minutes. Most places I've
been stopping at too, I run the scoreboard. Well, excuse me,
I don't run the scoreboard at River Bluff. I can.
(22:31):
I have a guy, Steve, and I call him start stop, Guy,
start stop. Guy runs the clock. But we stop it
at two. They stopped it at five at Dorman. We
scored in the final five minutes of the first half
to take a one oh lead, and we carried a
one to oho lead into the final five minutes of
the game, and then Dorman scored two goals in the
(22:54):
final five minutes, two goals to win it. In advance,
they take on jl Man, the number one him in
the state, jayl Mans undefeated, twenty one to zero. That
game's tomorrow, So a little bittersweet finish for my son
and his friends in their sophomore year. But they were
a young team, just you know, five seniors on River Bluff.
(23:16):
The team we lost to had nine seniors. The River
Bluff team had ten seniors a year ago, you know,
transitioning to a new coach from Bill Sabbats, who we
had on the program after he retired. Sabots one of
the winningest soccer head coaches in the country eight hundred
(23:38):
plus wins. I think maybe I don't want to misstep here,
I think eight twenty two might be the number that
Sabots had. But his former assistant, Thad Miller, took over
the River Bluff program this past season, and they knew
they were going to be a young team. They had
a couple of guys that didn't play that, you know,
(23:59):
for whatever reason, whether it be you know, focusing on academics.
One of the kids, Trip Bryant, is a kicker. He's
committed to playing collegially at Georgia Southern, so he didn't
play his senior season. And you know, without those guys,
that made the team even younger. And so my son
in that sophomore class, I think there are ten sophomores
on the team and maybe eight juniors, and then there
(24:22):
were only five seniors. So by comparison to most of
the teams that were playing Lexington, Chape and etc. They
were pretty young. Got into the playoffs, had to play
on the road, had a little slump at the end
of the year. Kind of disappointing late season for the guys,
for sure. I know they were all visibly frustrated with
that aspect of it. But as I told the story
(24:43):
the other day against christ Church, we had gone nine
penalty kicks into the game and then coach who knew
my son had played goalie played for him during travel
ball this past season, but my son had not played goalkeepers.
It's probably seven or eight. They rolled the dice, put
(25:04):
him in and he made the save and they ended
up being the game winner in the final regular season game.
But then to go up and be in the mix,
you know, up one to oh with five minutes to
go on the road and eyeballing, just a shot, that's
all I think, you know, I really wanted, That's all
I think the kids really wanted, just to go go
take a swing. I think as a competitor, whether you're
(25:27):
playing collegiately, whether you're playing professionally, whether you're playing high
school ball, I think you just want a shot, just
getting at bat. And that's what I really wanted for
those guys, And that's where that's where my disappointment is.
You know, It's it's not the loss that I that
(25:50):
I felt as a basketball player, losing the Calhoun County
in my final high school basketball game. It's the the feeling,
I think for me, of knowing that your son and
his contemporaries aren't going to get that opportunity to just
see the measuring stick, right, is the top team in
(26:13):
the country five nil better than you? Are they one nil?
Or are you better than them? On that day? And
I think that's probably the biggest law, the bigger loss
I feel than losing the game. It was losing the
opportunity to go play that game and maybe more importantly,
(26:37):
losing the opportunity to go shock the state, so to speak,
and win that game at the five A level. But hey,
let that fire fuel you, you know, let that fuel
the offseason in the preparation for the upcoming year. I mean,
(26:58):
that's the good thing about being a young team as
you return a lot of players. But certainly disappointed for
those seniors their final games, their final opportunity to suit
up for one of the most decorated programs in five
A soccer in the state. Over at River Bluff. So
(27:19):
a three four, five zero or eighty six text line
phone line if you want to talk about anything, hit
this up. Leave a message if we don't get to you.
Coming up an hour two, our good Bady Will Van
Dervoort from The Clemson Insider joined the program Quick Break,
Keep It a Lot on Fox Sports Radio fourteen hundred,
the show that shakesa South Hollani Clemson sports talk. So,
I guess it was last week, maybe two weeks ago,
(27:42):
sometime after that strange interview that Bill Belichick gave with
CBS Sunday Morning where his girlfriend, twenty four year old
Jordan Hudson kind of cut into the things, said, Hey,
we're not going to talk about how we met. Weird
(28:04):
stuff has kind of gone on around that, including today
where there were rumors that she had been banned from
North Carolina's facilities that since been denied according to U
n C. I'll get back to that in a minute.
But the two apparently started dating when Jordan Hudson was
(28:29):
twenty so four years ago. That would have been when
Bill Belichick was a spry sixty nine year old. He's
now seventy three, and according to reports, Jordan Hudson has
amassed a real estate portfolio worth about eight million dollars
(28:51):
within months of meeting Bill Belichick. Now she bought three
multifamily homes in the elst An area in December of
twenty twenty three for about seven point five million dollars.
Just two months earlier, she dropped six hundred and ten
(29:12):
thousand dollars, according to reports, on a cottage in Cape Town,
not to mention that she began showing up to cheerleading
practice in a seventy five thousand dollars Porsche at one
point along the way. Now, look, I find this whole
(29:38):
relationship strange. I feel like, from the outside looking in
that Bill Belichick is probably being manipulated by this young lady,
(30:00):
and for reasons that I think we can probably all
imagine how he's being manipulated. But North Carolina came out
today an issue the statement, saying that his girlfriend is
quote well, a welcome guest at football facilities, but when
(30:22):
she's trying to control his media image. When he asked
a simple question like how did you guys meet, and
she stopped the interview to say, no, no, no, we're not
going to talk about that, Like that makes people become
incredibly suspicious about it all. Like if that happened anywhere
in life, your antenna would run up. If you were
(30:44):
sitting at dinner with some of your best friends and
you were like, oh, so, how did you guys meet
and they're like, well, we're not gonna talk about that.
Like the wife pipes up, We're not talking talking about it.
You go, boy, that's strange. I mean, first first you think, well,
(31:10):
they must have met on like a dating app and
she's embarrassed and that's how they met. Or maybe wait,
maybe they met at a bar, and that would that
would be the thing. But even those reasons would lead
(31:32):
you to go, yeah, that's that seems kind of dumb.
That's a dumb reason right to to kind of hide
from the truth. So then that makes your intend to
go up to Okay, well what is it if it's
(31:58):
not that? And then you really starting to dig your
brain into some situations that you go and maybe that
is kind of a sketchy situation. And in this day
(32:19):
and age of I don't know if you want to
call it like mail order brides or whatever. I know,
I know at one point in my life there was
this whole thing about like getting a wife from Russia
or something. I don't really know. But now, with all
the other things that exist in the world, and because
(32:39):
you might have your children in the vehicle, I won't
travel down that path. But maybe you are traveling down
that path with me, and maybe you're thinking to yourself,
huh is that where this is? Is that how this
came to fruition? How does one make this type of
(33:00):
connection with a girl fifty years your junior? And yet
whatever the means to that connection is is so bad
(33:20):
that you can't say or she doesn't want said. How Nonetheless,
North Carolina did issue a statement, as I said, saying no,
that's not true. Jordan's allowed to be around the facility.
North Carolina made it clear her role is Bill Belichick's
de facto publicist and that that has not impacted her
(33:42):
access to the football program. Quote. While Jordan Hudson is
non employee of the University of the university or Carolina Athletics,
she is welcome to the Carolina football facilities. Jordan will
continue to manage all activities related to Coach Belichick's personal
brand outside of his responsibilities for Carolina Football and the university.
(34:04):
So this is like Dabo Sweeney's wife being responsible for
his personal brand outside of the school and possibly even
superseding that of Ross Taylor. If you will like that,
and that's like, that would not happen. In my opinion,
(34:29):
that would not happen. On Friday, podcast host Pablo Torre
revealed interviews with numerous sources close to the Belichick family
that detailed the controversial relationship between North Carolina's coach and Hudson,
including claims that she'd been banned from the university facilities.
Torri also spoke to sources who said that they were
worried Hudson would diminish the six time Super Bowl champion
(34:52):
head coaches legacy. So interesting things going on in Chapel Hill,
for sure. I wonder if the Tar Heel fans feel
like they hired the right guy or is this too
much baggage already? Let us know in the text line
eight three four five zero zero eighty six final seven
of our number one coming up will Van der Voort
in our number two of the show on a Friday afternoon.
(35:18):
So I am having trouble conceptualizing what is going on
in the NBA playoffs given the results of the regular season.
Now some of this could get straightened out tonight because
(35:39):
Cleveland and Indiana face off seven thirty on the ESPN.
Indiana is up two games to none. Cleveland had the
second best record in the league at sixty four and
eighteen entering the playoffs sixty four and eighteen, they were
(36:03):
thirty four and seven at home. They went zero to
two at home to open their playoff series against the
Indiana Pacers, meaning the Pacers are playing their first home
(36:24):
game as they're the four seed, they are playing their
first home game and they lead two games to none.
Talk about a Mountain to overcome in the East for
the one seed. Conversely, the same circumstance exists in the
East for the two seed. Now it doesn't feel as
(36:47):
significant with the Knicks and the Celtics, except for the
Celtics or the defending champs, and they are now down
two games to nine, and they will play in New
York Madison Square Garden tomorrow at three point thirty on ABC.
(37:08):
But the Pacers and Cavs tonight seven thirty on ESPN,
And let me just say this book it. If the
Pacers win tonight, that's it. The Pacers will advance to
the conference finals, and a team that was at some
points maybe the best team in the NBA, a team
(37:29):
that went sixty four and eighteen on the season, will
have pulled off a major meltdown in Round two. Then
out West, where it has been as tight as it
can be throughout the regular season except for one team,
(37:54):
the Oklahoma City Thunder, who absolutely blitz the rest of
the conference. They won the conference. If by sixteen games,
Oklahoma City was sixty eight and fourteen the best team
in the NBA, and they've run into perhaps still the
best player in the world, maybe not the most athletic
(38:16):
Nikole Jokic and the Denver Nuggets that matchup one game apiece.
Give the Thunder credit. They did bounce back after falling
one twenty one one nineteen in game one and crush
Denver one nine one oh six in game two. But
now it'll be a different air for legitimately a different
(38:37):
air because it's tough to breathe when you get up
into my Ohio City. Trust me, I've been there before.
I've been there before, I've been to Pike's Peak, I've
spent time in Denver. You may not believe this, but
you can actually jump higher in altitudes like that. I
know from experience, if you know what I mean, dude.
Ten o'clock tonight, what feels like? I think a must
(38:59):
win game for the top seed out West? Both top
seeds now it must win scenarios, and again Oklahoma City
scenario not nearly as detrimental as Cleveland's right now, but shockingly,
the results that we've seen just shocking. And remember the
three seed in the two seed out West were already eliminated.
The timber Wolves took out the hour Los Angeles Lakers
(39:21):
four games to one. The Warriors took out the Rockets
in seven. The Warriors took Game one over the Timberwolves,
but Steph Curry gets a little banged up and the
t Wolves took it to the Warriors in Game two,
one to seventeen ninety three. They'll face off tomorrow at
(39:42):
eight point thirty in Game three in Minnesota. One would
imagine the Timberwolves Uh and Anthony Edwards likely with Curry out.
Curry's a twenty four and a half point score per game,
shoots ninety four per sent from the free throw line.
Without that in your lineup, kind of hard to imagine
(40:08):
that the Golden State Warriors find their way to a victory.
One of the things I will say, though, and I
don't give this guy a lot of love. I don't like.
I don't really you know, he's a strange bird, he's
a weird bird. I don't give him a lot of love.
But I have to admit one of the stats I
(40:28):
saw about Draymond Green's made me go, well, I gotta
give him a little bit of respect for not just
the consistency, and he's done some dumb stuff over his career.
I don't excuse any of that, but Draymond Green and
(40:52):
the playoffs. He's been there a lot. He's got one
thousand plus rebounds and a thousand plus assists in the playoffs.
Only eight players in NBA history have ever done that.
Eight guys. And if I ask you, if I said
(41:12):
this to you, if I said, hey, give me a favor,
name eight guys that you think have pulled that off,
you'd start naming elite. You name Michael Jordan and you'd
be correct. You might name Kobe Bryant, you'd be correct.
(41:34):
You might name Lebron James, giving his longevity, and whether
you like it or not, you'd be correct. You go,
a thousand assists in the playoffs. Swanee, Oh, that's easy.
Magic Johnson six' nine point guard runs the floor. Smiling
you'd be. Correct thousand, assists thousand rebounds in the playoffs
from magic whose magic is, contemporary the arch Nemesis Larry bird.
(41:59):
Correct how About jordan's, Sidekick Scottie pippen? Correct one more
go heavy on? Assist you, Go Jason. Kidd that's the seven.
Plus draymond with a thousand rebounds and a thousand assists
in the. Playoffs quite a list For draymond to be.
Among quite, frankly all, right quick, break we'll come. Back
(42:20):
we'll be joined By Will Van derwart from The Clemson.
Insider stay with us each time For Climpson Sports talk
With Luwton. Schwan it is our number. Two that's drivetime
(43:10):
writer on the Show The Shakespeare Auth Hlaanne Clemson Sports
Talk Lord swan hang out with you on A friday.
Afternoon coming. Up Will, vanderbort The Clemson, insider joins. Us
we'll talk a lot Of clemson with him here on
the program today and. Again the show That shakes The
South layde brought you in part by our good friends
(43:30):
over at Mets plumbing seven three two, drip, drip drip.
Drip you know the jingle seven three to two. Drip
That's Mets, plumbing Mets plumbing dot. Com that's the website as.
Well all, Right Will vandibort will. Leave what's, up? Buddy
i'm Well?
Speaker 6 (43:48):
Walton how are you after that crazy ending to the softball? Game? Man?
Speaker 1 (43:52):
LOOK i talked about it, earlier will, improbable, impossible, unpredictable
BUT i think you gotta love. It you, know we
talk about. It with This clemson baseball. Team they really
need that kind of. Energy this weekend after the struggles
they've been. Under but, man what a win For John,
ripman and really what a turnaround for this team after
(44:13):
the start they.
Speaker 6 (44:13):
Had it was an, amazing amazing turnaround what they've. Done
they started the year three and six and now they're you,
know forty was it forty three and twelve, now so
they've won forty of their last forty six. Games and more,
importantly this win Today, lawton it could be the explanation
(44:34):
point to Make clempson they topped that eight national seed
because it was gonna come down to Them Virginia tech
And duke has maybe the second team from THE acc
to get that. Spot and With Virginia tech, LOSE i,
mean With duke losing To Florida state and then of
Course clemson Beating Virginia, tech you gotta Like clemson's chances
(44:55):
to maybe sneak in and get a top eight national. Seed,
now if they win, TOMORROW i think it's guaranteed they'll get, it,
obviously but they're at least in position right now to
try and get one going into selection Of. Sunday so
that win today was huge for a lot of, reasons
not just getting them to THE ac championship.
Speaker 1 (45:15):
Game Will van derwort weathers here on the program from
The Clemson. INSIDER i think the other thing, too will
the game tomorrow depending on the weather and the start.
TIME i know it's scheduled for two, thirty BUT i
know the weather In boston is not supposed to be.
Spectacular In, MASSACHUSETTS i think they're In, Brighton, massachusetts it's
not supposed to be. Spectacular But Florida state is one
(45:36):
of the few teams in college softball this year that
people are really even considering that might challenge and perhaps
Break oklahoma's four year streak of softball championships and the
dominance that they've. Had so not only is this a
big game for THE acc and a conference, championship but
they hadn't Played Florida state this season and it'll be
(45:57):
quite the measuring STICK i would say for this team
is get ready for postseason play as.
Speaker 6 (46:01):
Well it will, be and it's a measure they sick
for a lottery. Says clemson has not Beat Florida. STATE
i think they've played maybe six or seven times In
Florida state's won every, time INCLUDING i think two to
zero in THE Acc. TOURNAMENT i believe both tournament. Wins
one game in the championship, Game Florida state Be clemson
won to, nothing and then THEY i Think i'm right on,
(46:23):
this they beat them one to nothing the next year
innings in a semi final game a couple of years.
Ago So clemson has played with, them has played well against.
Them they just haven't seemed to get that key hit
when they need. To And i'll tell you the THING
i like about This clemson, team and As i've Watched
Florida state, TOO i think it's a winnable game For.
(46:44):
CLEMSON i, think you, know being At clemson has shown
what they can do at the plate and the way
they Beat, tennessee the way they Beat South. Carolina they're
just in the way they won. Today they're just never
out of a game because their offense has such a
good approach at the plate and they wait for, pitches
they get the pitches they, like and they generally when they,
(47:06):
do they put them in play and good things happen for.
Them and we saw that this. Afternoon it happened. Late but,
again you, know you can, say well the weather played
a role in that and all, that and that may be,
true but both teams are playing in that, weather And
clemson seemed to handle it better and their batters were
very patient at the plate understanding. That and when you
(47:26):
go to the top of the seventh Any Virginia, Tech
clinton got them out three out of the four batters they,
faced they got out to win the. Game and so you,
KNOW i just think this team right now is just
playing with the level of, confidence probably as good as
anybody in the country right. NOW i, mean they've WON
i believe twelve of the last thirteen. Games before, that
(47:47):
they had like a seven game win, streak and before
that they had a fifteen game win. Streak so they
know how to, win and they know how to win
in every way you can think. Of and that's what's
been impressive about what they've. Done and so they'll have
an opportunity tomorrow to be at The Florida state, TEAM
i think is right number three in THE. RPI i
think they're in the top five in the. Country so
(48:08):
this as an opportunity to get a big program kind
of win for This clypson softball.
Speaker 1 (48:15):
Team Will van Der voart again hanging out with us,
Today so shifting gears to another streak that's not Great
clemson baseball after getting up to number two in the.
Country Will they've lost seven out of their last nine ball.
Games this certainly feels like it needs to be a
get right series against The Duke Blue. DEVILS i know
Some tiger fans immediately pull out their panting. Button they're hitting.
(48:36):
It other fans are hitting the button that, says, Hey
i've seen this song and dance before With clemson, baseball
whether it was With Bonnie lee or maybe at the
tail end Of Jack legas. Tenure what do you think
about This clemson baseball team right now after the highs
that they had early in the season and really through
the mid season until right here where you've kind of
(48:57):
seen them over the past few.
Speaker 6 (48:58):
Weekends, yeah they're they're in a very tight situation right,
now to be honest with. You they they got to
the main problem they've had is they can't seem to
get that key hit with runners in scoring. POSITION i,
mean it has just been one bad problem after, another
(49:18):
right and it seems to like get worse with heavy.
Game it seems that. Way so we'll see if they
can turn it around and do what they need to
do this. Week but you, know this is a big. Series,
MAN i can't tell you a lot because right, now
you try to play for a top four. Seed you're
within one game of being in the top, four And
duke is right in front of. You so you got
(49:40):
a chance to win this series and Jump duke in
the standings and also put yourself in position if you
can win some more. Games uh so we'll we'll see what.
Happens but right, now it's gonna be a, tough tough
couple of games here For clemson because This duke teams
won eight of their last nine games coming into this game,
today and so, like it's not gonna be a give.
(50:02):
Me this isn't your grandfather's duke baseball team right when
they just didn't really care about baseball And clemson would
just whip them With willhelm's team and legas. Teams, uh
that's not the case. Here this is a this is
a good duke. Team it's a good duke program that's
been to THE ncaa tournament for the last couple of.
Years they know how to win tough games and close,
games and right now they're probably playing as good as
(50:23):
anybody in THE. Acc and it seems Like clemson seems
to catch every team that's playing their best right. Now
doesn't seem that.
Speaker 1 (50:29):
Way uh, well you might call that dumb, luck or
you might, say, hey it's an opportunity and the other
thing that could be POTENTIALLY i guess on the, LINE
i DON'T i don't. Know what do you think About
clemson in terms, of you, know if they have a
rough weekend here With? DUKE i, mean is there any
way THAT i, mean are they a surefire host in
(50:51):
in terms of a regional at this? Point AND i
MEAN i know they're just NOW i kind of listened
on the outside of being you, know one of those you,
know top eight. Seeds but could they fall to the
point where they have to go on the road or
you think they're still.
Speaker 6 (51:05):
Good, no they have to win these next two, SERIES
i think to lock up a. Regional so these next
two weeks are gonna be big for. Them they need
to go four and two in these next six. GAMES
i think if they do, that they'll definitely lock up a. Regional,
now if they can go six to oh or five
(51:26):
and one and then maybe win a game in THE acc,
tournament then you're talking like they possibly could be a
national seed. Still so they're still in line for a
national seed right, now coming into the game, TODAY i
think they're firmly in position to be a regional host.
Site but if they lose this, series then next week
(51:50):
you're talking about they may have to Sweep pittsburgh and
then maybe win another game or two in THE acc
tournament just to be a regional. Host so this is
a big series this week right. Here they got to
win this. Series, man it really starts today and starts
this weekend for. Him but, yeah they're. Not they're in
a good position at the, moment but that could change
(52:12):
with a bad.
Speaker 1 (52:12):
Weekend Will Van dervard, again he is the senior writer
for the folks over at The Clemson. Insider follow him
today On twitter at Stealer. Will all, Right, will let's
talk a Little clemson football and the obviously the. Offseason
everybody's amped up and ready for THAT lsu, matchup and
that'll be. ONE i don't know if you've written anything
(52:33):
on it, yet BUT i know you will write a
column about the history of the Two Death. VALLEYS i
know you're one of The you're probably one of the
main guys that stands in that line and yells at
the top of your lungs about the history of the two.
Venues so give it to us for those people that
may be tuning, in whether it's game cocks peeking over the,
fence whether IT'S lsu folks in The midlands or checking
(52:55):
out the, program give us the history on the two
venues in which, one in your, opinion is the Real Death.
Speaker 6 (53:01):
Valley, WELL i think the best way to say it
is not who's the Real Death, valley but Who's because
both teams are extremely good at. HOME i mean they are,
right and you can look at the, HISTORY i think
you know it's both teams are, winning like at seventy
eight percent or something like that at, home so they're
both tough to. Win, however let's look at the real
(53:23):
facts of the, matter AND i like to call it
the Original Death. Valley clemson's the Original Death valley is
not even close because it's called, facts and facts are,
facts and you can't argue. Facts clemson was Called Death
valley in the mid nineteen. Forties you all know the,
story And i'm sure a lot of other people out
there who may not know the. Story But low, McMillan
(53:43):
the longtime head coach over At Presbyterian college back in
the day WHEN pc would come To clemson every year
and open their. Season you, know he told us boys one, day, hey,
guys we're gonna go and Play clemson In Death. Valley
and then you, know he told the media, that and
that kind of. Stuck Then Coach howard got a hold of,
it And Coach howard really used it and went with,
(54:05):
it and it you, know so by the early nineteen,
Fifties clemson was known As Death. Valley you, Know Memorial
stadium was known As Death, valley and so that started
in nineteen forty, five which was three years after the
stadium was. Built and THEN lsu didn't really start calling
It Death valley with a th until really the nineteen
(54:26):
eighties maybe, dinies when when Basically Tim, brando who's a
you know AT lsu grad and was on, television he
called It Death. Valley and that's kind of when it
kind of started and stuck for. Them you, know there's
there's several With. Clemson you can trace it to one
story if you, will where it all, started and it
(54:48):
starts With Long millon And. Presbyterian where AT lsu there's
like three or four different. Stories BUT i do know.
This and there one Hundred years OF Lsu football in
nineteen ninety. Three the author of that, book he puts
in there THAT lsu did not call It Death valley
(55:11):
at the earliest until nineteen fifty, nine which is fourteen
years After clemson. Did and he, said, really they called
it Death, valley but the, locals The, cajuns couldn't say it,
correctly so it came out Death. Valley and that's how that.
Stuck and then just you, know to kind of kind
of play off of.
Speaker 1 (55:29):
That now let me let me let me. Clarify clarify
here for the radio D ea f like death.
Speaker 6 (55:39):
Death.
Speaker 1 (55:39):
Valley, yes that's WHAT i remember as a. Kid, yes
that's WHAT i remember because it was so loud in,
there you couldn't. Hear that's WHAT i recall from. Broadcast all,
right carry on with, right all?
Speaker 6 (55:54):
Right SO i called so with That and WHEN i
read that in that history book of one of years
OF lsu football that was called Death, valley. DEAF i
called a FORMER Lsu national championship coach Called diesel at the,
time who was still WITH us at the. Time he
since passed, away and he Also South carolina fans at
(56:15):
the list it would know he was the head coach
of the game. Coops after, THAT i asked, HIM i,
Said Coach, diesel you, know just, curious when you were
the head coach AT, lsu what did they call the
plane surface? There he, says we called It Tiger. Stadium
it was never called anything else during my. Time and
now he coached there AT lsu from nineteen FIFTY i
(56:35):
think fifty, seven maybe from fifty seven fifty six to
nineteen sixty, five so he was the head coach AT
lsu for like seven or eight seasons, there and so
that's what they called, it he, said during his time,
there and that's going all the way to the mid, sixties,
right it was called it was Called Tiger. Stadium he,
said he didn't know being called anything. Else so that's
(56:56):
What i'm, Saying like WITH, lsu there's no sure there's
like a law of legend, stories you know, that you,
know urban legend kind of, Stuff but there's no concrete
evidence of when it actually started being Called Death, valley
and that's de ea t. H there's nothing that cuts
it in. Stone and the earliest of those call the
of those stories is nineteen fifty, nine which again is
(57:19):
fourteen years After. Clemson and then, also let's put the
way the number one fact in all THIS lsu is
played almost is below sea level or right at sea.
Level there's no valleys In Baton. Rouge clinton is played
in a true. Valley That's Hull stadium was built in a.
Valley it is a. Valley that's why there's one hundred
and ten foot drop from the heel down, right so
(57:43):
you know it's an actual. Valley and Then clinton, also
and that's not the reason they name it, this But
clinton also has a cemetery next to. It Memorial stadium
does so come on and it's Called Memorial. Stadium so
everything empathized the word death when you talk About Death
valley In clinson as opposed TO lsu or somebody, thought
somebody said something, else and that's how it got its.
(58:04):
Nickname so you, KNOW i Think clempson needs to do
a better job in my, Opinion Lawton clempson needs to
do a better job of Selling LIKE i would love
For clemson to change the facade At Memorial stadium and
Say clemson welcomes you to College football's original Death. VALLEY
i think that would shut everybody up and nobody can
argue it because those are.
Speaker 1 (58:24):
Facts Will Van dervoord with us here on the. Program
these two teams have met four times, historically twice In New,
orleans once in that nineteen fifty nine season you mentioned
that Was Frank howard And Paul dietzel squaring, off and
then the last time was In New orleans in That
National championship game back in twenty. Twenty the other two
times In. Atlanta but this will be the first time
(58:47):
that either of these teams has hosted the other one
In Death. Valley all. Right so the other side of that,
coin maybe not With clemson AND, lsu but maybe with future.
Matchups will is the fact that The tigers and Oder
dame now inc a twelve year agreement starting in twenty twenty.
Seven they could impact other Games, Clemson, Oklahoma Clemson georgia
(59:07):
games down the, road kind of depending on what THE sec.
Does what were your thoughts this week when that news. Broke,
yeah and.
Speaker 6 (59:15):
Then now there's. CONVERSATIONS i don't know if you saw
the article done By Dan rad OF Covid yester that
that came out down In, miami but there's conversations within THE.
Acc THE acc could go to nine, Games so you,
know you, know now that just throws another whole wrinkle into.
It and it also shows what a good move By
clemson And Notre dame to go ahead and lock this game, up,
(59:35):
Right because now if THE acc, says do you say
they go to nine games and THE sec goes to nine, games,
well there's no way at all That clemson can play
At georgia or At oklahoma in the. Future it just can't.
Happen so now you lock up at least a game
against a Power ford type opponent In Notre, dame and
(59:55):
you got that every year to go along with The
South carolina. Game that's gonna help your strength to. SKIN
i think it's a win win for both. Teams there's
no doubt about. That and you know AND i. Do
and even if they don't go to eight at nine
game schedules on both, CONFERENCES i just don't See clemson
play In georgia And oklahoma in the. FUTURE i just
(01:00:16):
can't see how it can. Happen, because like in twenty twenty,
nine Right clemson, plays they are Hosting Notre, dame that,
year they're Hosting, georgia that year they're Hosting East carolina
that year and they're Hosting firman that. Year, well how
in the world Can clemson host? That many teams know
by the way they go To South. Carolina so and
(01:00:37):
they got eight conference, Games well you do the. Math right,
now it's a twelve game. Season that's thirteen. Games there's no,
way so somebody's coming off the. Schedule in my opinion
on WHAT i think is happening Is clemson's waiting to
see what THE sec does BECAUSE i don't Think clempson
wants to drop it because then they would have to
Pay georgia fee for dropping the. Series they don't have
(01:00:58):
to Pay oklahoma fee for up in the. Series so right,
now you wait to see what THE sec does before
you take it off the. Books makes. Sense THE scc makes.
Them if THE sec makes, them then nobody has to pay,
anything and you know nobody's out any. Money SO i
think that's What clemson's. Doing they're waiting to see what
THE sec.
Speaker 1 (01:01:15):
Does, WELL i know we're two years out from they getting.
UNDERWAY i said over under that we even play six
of those twelve. Games what would you say over under
six of the twelve GAMES i just mentioned Against Notre.
Speaker 6 (01:01:27):
Dame oh you think they'll Pa, NOW i think they'll
play all. Twelve, OKAY i think it'll because Of Notre
dame's relationship with The Atlantic Coast, conference.
Speaker 3 (01:01:39):
You.
Speaker 6 (01:01:39):
Know and then If, clemson let's Say clemson leaves the
conference and was it thirty thirty, one they can get out.
POSSIBLY i still think if You're, clinton you still play
that game because it's still a non conference game against
a top of the line. Opponent SO i think it
stays in place just BECAUSE i think it won't Affect
clemson either, way whether they're in THE acc or they
move to Another.
Speaker 1 (01:02:00):
Will enjoy the baseball game, Today, man always appreciate. You
That's Will vandervoort from The Clemson. Insider will take care of.
Speaker 6 (01:02:05):
My, MAN i man appreciate you having, me.
Speaker 1 (01:02:07):
Buddy there you. Go That's Will Van. Derboort all, right
with a quick. Break we'll come back with. More will update.
You will was talking about That clemson softball. Game, man
what a wild. One what a wild finish at THE
acc tournament for The. Tigers quick, break we'll tell you
more about it when we. Return Clemson sports saw the
Show The shakes of South land. Again we talked about
it earlier and mentioned it there With Will vanderbort before the.
(01:02:32):
Break but if you're just joining, us it was quite
a finish in THE Acc tournament semi finals for The
clemson softball. Team they ventured into the bottom of the
sixth inning with a whole heap of work to do
against the third Seeded Virginia Tech. Hokies clemson was the second.
(01:02:55):
Seed The tigers trailed nine to two heading into the
bottom of The, now remember softball is a seventeen. SPORT i,
mean this is your back is against the, wall this
IS Acc championship, game berth on the, line and they
come through with eight. Runs eight runs in the bottom
(01:03:21):
of the sixth inning for The Clemson tigers softball team
to advance to the championship game tomorrow against one of
the top teams in all the, land The Florida State.
SEMINOLES i, mean, honestly it's that's as improbable of a
(01:03:42):
win as you will. See to put it into, Perspective
Atlantic Coast conference softball teams work six hundred and ninety
three to one when leading by seven runs or more
at any point in the last four, seasons six hundred
(01:04:08):
ninety three and One Virginia tech Led clemson nine to.
Two in the bottom of the sixth The tigers scored
eight to. ADVANCE i, mean, LOOK i didn't calculate the,
(01:04:29):
numbers never a, doubt never a, doubt knew it all.
Along that was a brutal loss For Virginia. Tech it
(01:04:51):
was brutal. Weather AS i mentioned, earlier it was forty
eight degrees. Rainy the girls were. Freezing Maddie moore spoke
with the media after the, game with THE Acc, NETWORK
i should, say and here's what she had to.
Speaker 2 (01:05:07):
Say, Hey, maddie we just read a replay of you
soon after the game. ENDED i know you must be.
Freezing and what have you ever played in a game
like this?
Speaker 5 (01:05:18):
BEFORE i, mean just like the Occasional druzzold that ended
in five.
Speaker 3 (01:05:21):
Minutes but, no nothing like, this not at.
Speaker 4 (01:05:24):
All, well and so when you're heading into the bottom
of the sixth inning down by a, ton what's the
conversation in the?
Speaker 5 (01:05:32):
Dugout you, know it's why not? Us what do we
have to lose at this? Point just go in, there be,
confident have, fun and swing at good.
Speaker 3 (01:05:40):
Pitches, well and good pitches were hard to come.
Speaker 4 (01:05:42):
By you, guys showed great discipline at the. Plate i'm
sorry for leaving you out there in the.
Speaker 3 (01:05:46):
Cold, yeah when you, win it.
Speaker 4 (01:05:49):
Doesn't feel good bad Warm, now, well and you talk
about how defense is something you actually like more than. Offense, today,
defensively there were some miscues out there in the. Field
we're was a conversation between your teammates with all of those.
Speaker 5 (01:06:02):
Errors just to slow down play the. Game try to
make the throw as short as, possible get as close
to your target as you, can keep your feet, moving
try to get.
Speaker 3 (01:06:11):
The best grip on the.
Speaker 5 (01:06:12):
Ball and you, know just stay, confidence stay, help just keep.
Speaker 2 (01:06:16):
Going and you Got Florida state the top seed, tomorrow
haven't played them this. Year that should be a lot of.
Speaker 3 (01:06:20):
Fun, Yeah i'm super. EXCITED i can't.
Speaker 2 (01:06:22):
Wait, okay go get a, Coke go get, warm go get.
Speaker 3 (01:06:25):
Dry thank, You, Maddie Go.
Speaker 2 (01:06:26):
Tigers Maddie moore and The tigers and an improbable comeback
and eight, runs six nine, runs eleven, hits four errors
For Virginia, tech ten, runs seven, hits five errors For clemson.
Speaker 1 (01:06:42):
And so back to the championship. Game go The Clemson.
Tigers with that improbable. Victory earlier today at THE Acc,
TOURNAMENT i wonder how they picked the benue, THOUGH i,
MEAN i, REALLY i, REALLY i, MEAN i know you
want to spread it, around but and maybe you presume
That may And boston's gonna be nice. Weather but you
(01:07:07):
do risk the, forties you do risk, it and that
is a brutal way to. LOSE i mean a brutal
way to. Lose And i'm Sure Clympson tiger baseball, fans
(01:07:27):
AS i talked about, earlier heading into this series against
The Duke Blue, devils where things will be getting underway
in just a little bit six o'clock on THE Acc
Network extra for the three game series against The Duke Blue.
Devils clympson looking to bounce. Back The tigers now on
a bit of a, schneide if you, will dating back
(01:07:50):
to their final game loss At. Louisville after they won
the first two games against The, cardinals they've lost seven
to nine ball game, games three games sweep AT Nc,
state losing two out of three Against Florida, state losing
five to three midweek At coastal against an eighth to
(01:08:11):
Rank coastal, team The tiger six o'clock, tonight AS i,
mentioned two o'clock tomorrow and one O'clock sunday Acc network Against.
DUKE i, mean you got to get right. HERE i
even saw people tweet Nowt, MAN i hope the baseball
team is watching this softball team right now because it
(01:08:32):
has been a very good baseball team throughout the. Year
ALTHOUGH i believe at this POINT i have to go
back and double check the, stats BUT i THINK i
Saw John blow tweet this out THAT i think every
starter in the lineup at that point was under three
hundred When Cam kenerell dipped below two ninety. Eight and,
YEAH i mean If Jaron, purify let's See purify is
(01:08:55):
batten three to. Eleven but everybody else with you, know
over ninety at. Bats everybody's batting under three hundred except For.
Purify and it's a tough. Sport don't get me. WRONG
i don't want to. DIMINISH i want to diminish you
(01:09:16):
know the. Difficulty but you'd like to see a couple
more guys pushing above three. Hundred this team's just really
struggled the past couple of. Weeks they got to pick it.
Up we'll see if they can this weekend against The
Duke Blue devils At Doug Kingsmore. Stadium it should be
good to be back at the friendly confines Of Doug Kingsmore.
(01:09:38):
Stadium all, right quick, break we'll come. Back Tiger woods legendary.
Golfer his Son charlie always in the news because of
the comparisons to him and his. Father BUT i do
have an update On charlie and a question for you
about him when we. Return keep it a lot right
here On Fox Sports radio fourteen, Hundred Clemson sports Tal
(01:10:00):
lot And swan on A friday. Afternoon SO i Mentioned
charlie And Tiger woods before the. BREAK i Think charlie's
a kind of a fascinating follow the similarities between his
swing and you, know kind of his look compared to
his dad in terms of their body and frame when
they're playing golf and you see him side by, side
(01:10:20):
and you, know he's not the size of his dad.
Yet certainly he'll probably eventually get there or get. Close
But Charlie woods was unsuccessful in his second attempt to
qualify for THE Us. Open, woods who's sixteen years, old
carded a three over part seventy five On thursday at
The Wellington Golf club down In. Florida the score to
(01:10:47):
qualify required was a sixty, eight so seven strokes over.
THAT a year ago he was nine over when he
tried to qualify for THE Us. Open but the MORE
i think about, it right, like if your dad's a legendary,
(01:11:08):
quarterback you're not necessarily destined to be or even even
deemed to be. That or you, know maybe you look
At Dion, sanders a, cornerback and his sons and the
roles they. PLAYED i, mean there's certainly a. Connection but to,
(01:11:29):
me given the financial particulars Around Tiger, woods given you
know his wealth and how much he's, worth and it's
over a billion dollars one point three billion dollars to be,
exact For Tiger, woods And, charlie his son has grown
(01:11:52):
up with an unlimited amount of reach to virtual, simulators
a bazillion golf balls he could do every. Day he's
got his father who can be the ultimate tutor to
teach him how to play the. Game and at, SIXTEEN
i don't expect him to necessarily qualify for THE Us.
Open And i'm not holding that Against charlie by any.
Means but here is my, question BECAUSE i, think unlike
(01:12:16):
football athletes and basketball, athletes you, know Like Lebron James
son and getting to THE nba and all. THAT i
Think charlie by virtue of all that he has access
to and the, Opportunity LIKE i, mean does he need
to go to, school doesn't have, To he could have
a private. TUTOR i don't have to worry about that
(01:12:36):
kind of. STUFF i Think Charlie, woods maybe in this
generation where the amount of money that somebody makes from
playing the sport and their image and likeness and everything
with The nike swoosh that that you, know certainly Paid
Tiger woods for, many many, YEARS i Think Charlie, woods
(01:12:57):
probably of all the athletes children save for maybe the
kids Of venus And Serena, williams at some point along the,
line he's probably had the best opportunity in access to
potentially winning a championship or being on THE Pga tour
(01:13:18):
or qualifying for THE Us. Open and my question to
you is, this Will Charlie woods become A Pga tour
pro and, furthermore will he ever win a? Major forget
talking about his dad at this, Point Can charlie win
a major given all the access he's. HAD i think
(01:13:40):
it's a legitimate. Question let me, know what you. THINK i,
mean When Arnold palmer's sons are growing up Or Jack
nicholas's sons are growing, up they certainly have great, access
but nothing like what What Charlie woods. Has AND i
(01:14:02):
would also venture to assume, that because of weight training
and technological advances in the, sport That Charlie woods is
always going to. Play and, AGAIN i get, it the
other pros is going to be playing with the best stuff,
Too but to climb that ladder, two being in that,
group you gotta have some, advantages and In Charlie, woods
(01:14:30):
in my, opinion has those advantages by virtue of his father's.
Wealth AND i, think and let's be fair To charlie,
here not that not that it's easy growing up in
your dad's, Shadow not that it's, easy BUT i feel
(01:14:51):
like he comes across as a pretty stable sixteen year
old given everything that his you, know dad has, acquired
accumulated and earned during his time as a. Golfer LIKE
i don't look At Charlie woods and, go, well you know,
(01:15:13):
what a what a pain in the. Butt seems like
a good, kid seems like a kid is pretty well
rounded given probably all the access to just ridiculousness that
he's had in his. LIFE i, mean, Look i'm Not
i'm not like wealthy by any. Means i'm certainly not a.
(01:15:37):
Billionaire BUT i don't stress, about you, know things that
some people in the world have. To you, know where
my next dinner is gonna come. From i'm, Fortunate i'm
grateful for, that But i'm Not Tiger, woods AND i
can only. Imagine you, know you think his son's ever
wanted for a toy or a, meal or a, car
(01:16:02):
or a seedoo or, whatever or. Helicopter maybe he's still
maybe he's still wonting for a. Helicopter but the point, being,
like for a kid that's had all of, that he
doesn't seem like a. Jerk he seems like a fifteen
(01:16:27):
sixteen year old kid that's having a good time playing
golf with his. Dad, oh his dad just happens to
be perhaps the greatest golfer of all. Time and you
always do wonder If tiger had kept, it kept himself
in his lane off the, field if he had already
(01:16:50):
have the all time. Mark some might say Because tiger
wasn't keeping in his lane off the courses is why
he has the all Time mark or why he's close
you know WHAT i, mean like because once that all came,
out boy just flat. Lined BUT i would root For.
CHARLIE i Hope charlie gets to THE Bj. TOUR i
(01:17:13):
Hope charlie wins a championship at some. Point AND i
don't think he'll ever be as great as his, dad for,
sure But i'm rooting for that kid because that's a
lot of. Pressure and then to step in and Say
i'll play. Golf that's not. Easy AND i think he's
a good. Kid he comes across that, way quick. Break
we'll put a ball in the show after. This stay with.
Speaker 7 (01:17:33):
Us what have you done for me? Lately it's a fair.
Question just don't lose sight of the bigger, picture don't forget.
History look you for us At. Clemson the answer to
the questions what have you done for me? Lately and
(01:17:54):
what have you? Done always are the. Same we win.
Speaker 8 (01:18:03):
Sometimes final segment on A friday afternoon in a Big
(01:18:51):
friday afternoon For Clemson Baseball tigers now thirty seven to,
thirteen fourteen and ten in the A.
Speaker 1 (01:18:57):
Cc you Heard Will Van derbart talking about. It also
fourteen to ten in THE. Acc clemson still ranked number
six in One baseball. Poll that's certain to change after their.
Loss again it was to a number eight team In Coastal,
carolina But clemson on the heels of possibly if things
(01:19:21):
go bad here over the next couple of, weekends not
even hosting a, regional which is. Wild they're CURRENTLY i
Think Baseball america hasn't projected as a ninth. Seed you
want to be one of those top eight, seeds one
of those national, seeds so that you get a shot
to host a super, regional and you feel like a
couple of weekends ago that was. All But i'm pretty
close to being locked up until the sweep AT Nc
(01:19:45):
state and then losing too out of three At Florida.
State The Florida state series doesn't bother me so much
because it was really a bang bang Series game, one,
ESPECIALLY i, mean if that one Goes clemson's, way they
win the series two games to. ONE i don't have
any out about. IT i thought that when we talked
To will a week. Ago Florida state's currently the top
team in THE aec at fourteen and. Seven North carolina
(01:20:09):
is seventeen and, Nine Georgia tech fifteen and, Nine miami
fourteen and nine in C, state fifteen and, Ten clemson
fourteen and, Eleven duke, fourteen excuse, me fourteen and, Ten
duke also fourteen and. Ten so you sweep this, weekend
you move to seventeen and, Ten you put yourself in
position to be obviously one of those top four, seeds
(01:20:33):
but you lose The, duke you slip down one more.
Wrung you got a great weekend series next week up At.
PITTSBURGH i, mean they're one of the bottom four teams
right now in THE, acc but it does feel like
this has to be a great weekend for The Clemson
tiger baseball team as they conclude their regular season home.
(01:20:56):
Schedule and would it be something if somehow you play
yourself off of one of those top sixteen. Seeds this
will be the last three games at home for the.
Year BUT i don't see that. HAPPENING i think they're
gonna play good. TONIGHT i really do believe In Eric
backach and this. TEAM i think you've seen it throughout the.
(01:21:20):
Year you know this fight that they've. GOT i know
it's unfortunate the way the last few weekends have, gone
BUT i think they'll straighten themselves Out The tigers lead
the all time mark with The Blue devels one thirty,
three seventy eight and. Two dating bat the nineteen oh
Four at, Home clemson leads sixty, nine thirty three and.
One at the, release neither team had put out who was.
(01:21:44):
Pitching one would assume It's Aiden knnock For. Clemson The
tigers are twenty five and five at. Home they average
seven runs per game betting two seventy with a four
to forty one slugging percentage in the four h seven
on base percentage with fifty. Eight but it's runners in
scoring position getting hits with runners in scoring. Position that's
(01:22:06):
been a bit of a bugaboo for The tigers of
the past three weeks and that's where they have to
straighten things out. Now On, saturday at one point, Thirty
clemson will honor their senior players For Senior. Day make
sure you're there in advance to check that. Out speaking of,
seniors how about senior Infielder Andrew. Chufo he missed the
(01:22:29):
last half of the twenty twenty fourth season due to an.
Injury return for a sixth year this, season starting shortstop
for The tigers bat in two forty. Three you'd like
to see him bump that. Up but five home, runs seven,
doubles twenty five, RBIs twenty seven runs and three steals
in forty seven. Games he's also got ten sacrifice bunts this.
(01:22:51):
Year that's tied for seventh most in a season In clemson.
History he's also committed just six errors in his two
years as A. Tiger Andrew chufo's bat in two fifty seven,
win nine, doubles a, triple seven home, runs forty one,
RBIs forty six runs at eight steals in seventy four.
(01:23:13):
Games he's committed just eleven total errors during his time
as A. Tiger by the, way this, Season clempson is
twenty two and one when they out hit their, opponent
six and one when they totally the same number of
hits as their. Opponent so when equal or better in
(01:23:35):
hitting just hits against their, Opponents clemson's twenty eight and
two this. Season so we'll see how it all shakes out.
Again a three game set Against duke coming up at six.
O'clock it gets going on THE Acc Network Extra tomorrow
on The extra as well at two, pm and Then
(01:23:57):
sunday on The extra at one. O'clock don't. Forget you've
Got Carolina hurricanes hockey this weekend as. Well The hurricanes
lost last, night disappointing that series tie at one game apiece,
hour CAN i say it? Hour Carolina hurricanes will be
(01:24:19):
back on the ice tomorrow at six o'clock In game
three at home six o'clock ON. Tnt tune in for that.
Tomorrow then they'll be back on the Ice monday night
at home as. Well All, right we gotta get out here.
Again thank you for being a part of the. Program
thank you for granting me a couple of days. Away,
(01:24:39):
honestly still got a little bit of a, cough but
feeling much much. Better we will talk to you On.
Monday until, then as, always you'll take care now and Go.
Tigers
